My 8 year old, healthy male cat Oliver passed away last night. He was fine all day, but got sick in the evening after eating a can of Fancy Feast Delights Chicken and Cheese in gravy. He threw up about 3 times. The vomit was watery and there was no signs of anything else in it other than the canned food. He also hid under the bed and was panting with a hard stomach, we thought it was just an upset stomach. We woke up the next morning and he was gone. The number on the can was 13641160L5FW51310, it looks like it was made in Dec 2011. We are sad to lose our favorite cat and will never buy a Purina product again.

Purina deli cat, kit & kaboodle and fancy feast is killing cats again! Deli cat, kit & kaboodle and fancy feast killed 3 of my beautiful cats. The symptoms are the same found on this site.

We had been loyal Purina Pro Plan dog feeders since its introduction into the trial market. We first purchased for our Yellow Labrador puppy from our vet in late 1986 or early 1987. He endured a few surgeries and would get a bland homemade diet during recuperation. We enjoyed Duncan's company for almost 14 years. When we brought Ruskin and Alexa, Brittany pups into our home in March of 2000, there was no question about changing dog food. Eight puppies were delivered in April of 2001. We kept Stripe, the lone male after adopting out the seven females at 12-16 weeks old.

Dogs ran out of food today, so stopped by Petco just at closing time to pick up some dog food for our Yorkies. Went with Purina's little bites. Got home, opened back and found a type of larvae and webbing throughout the top of the bag. Everything seemed to be dead but didn't feel like searching through rest of bag. Closed up sealed and taking back to Petco tomorrow. Our dogs can manage on our left over chicken breast for tonight. Very angry because if this slipped by us, our dogs could of been sick costing us vet money we don't have! Never buying Purina again. Absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. On Monday, February 11, 2012 I fed my healthy, 4-year old cat Purina 'Indoor Formula' Cat Chow. Within 24 hours, she was restless, appeared very confused, her head was uncontrollably bobbing, she wouldn't eat and couldn't sleep (very abnormal for any cat). It looked symptomatic of Parkinson's. The next morning, she looked much worse. The vet saw her and, after several tests, she said that her liver labs came back elevated but that was it. Her behavior was so abnormal so the vet called a neurologist, who agreed that we should see him immediately. So we did.

Monday, my husband opened a 35-pound bag of Purina Pro-Plan shredded chicken and rice which is what we have been feeding our 5 year-old Rottweiler. He was acting a bit lethargic Tuesday and Wednesday but had been busy running over the weekend, so we figured he was just taking it easy. Thursday morning he was depressed, had thrown up several times on the rug and by mid-morning was vomiting blood and was having lots of bloody diarrhea. At 4:20 we had an appointment with the vet. Gaius was to spend the night getting fluids as he was dehydrated and to get blood work done. The vet called that night at 10:17 to inform us that our sweet dog had a seizure and his heart stopped. Nothing could be done. He was gone. Needless to say we are heartsick. My neighbor just alerted me to this site. Just as Natalie from Tennessee, I am not letting this go. I want Purina to stop hurting our pets!

If you have had similar problems as the one I posted with your dear animals, please consider filing a complaint with Purina. Those of us who have done so, need the solidarity of others or these problems will go unaddressed - who knows how many more animals may suffer and die before the situation is taken care of.

My wife purchased a new bag of Lamb and Rice for our 12-year old chow chow. After eating a small portion of the food he would no longer eat it and became lethargic and he then began vomiting and having diarrhea. He also had to go "out" to do his business every couple hours, which is not his usual behavior. Then he became unsteady and was unable to walk up the three steps into our house and had to be carried in. We immediately took him off the food and over the last two weeks and after a trip to the vet and putting him on antibiotics he appears to be coming back to his usual self. We now feed him Blue Buffalo Wilderness which he loves. We are just thankful the dog had the common sense to stop eating the food before he became any sicker. In two weeks he will revisit the vet and we will repost his progress.

I have been feeding my 2-year old Pyrenees Purina Pro Plan since she was adopted in May. Right after Christmas she started with diarrhea that just wouldn't quit. After tramadol, an antibiotic and 6 days of bland diet she came around, but it took a couple of weeks for her to be 100%. Back on the Pro Plan and she's had a bit of blood in her stool and today she started with diarrhea. After reading recent Purina complaints on this site, I emptied her bowl and am cooking her a bland dinner. I am off to the store in the morning to get her something that will actually nourish her rather than waste her.

My two dogs have been on Prime Cuts for several years with no noticeable or rare sicknesses. The most recent bag has resulted in my larger dog throwing up, severe diarrhea for several days and one morning, "Parkinson's like" symptom. He was struggling trying to get up and couldn't maneuver his hind end. My smaller dog has always been sensitive to preservatives. With this current bag, he has had 4 seizures (that I know of I work), throwing up and lethargic. Each time they have been sick, I have changed them to a bland diet to help them recover. Each time when they have recovered, giving them the prime cuts again, only to have another episode! I feel nauseated knowing I did not connect the sicknesses each time to the prime cuts and giving my dogs, who look to me for care, love and trust not to harm them! We, as animal parents, trusted you! Just fix the problem to prevent others from becoming sick at your hands!

I bought a bag of Purina One Large Breed Puppy two years ago at Petsmart and when I got the bag home and opened it, it was full of bugs! So I exchanged the bag, and the next bag also had bugs, so I switched to Pedigree. I have gone back to check on the dog food and have used a couple bags since then with no problems but after reading this I know what happened to me wasn't a freak incident. I'm going to switch back to Pedigree and hope that Purina issues a recall and fixes the problem. It's bad when the number one brand has a problem and won't alert the consumer so they can fix it. Pets are like family and I'm not feeding my dog something that could potentially be harmful to them!

We just took our pets to the vets yesterday for their yearly checkup and shots. Our dogs have been on little bites for over a year. We found out 3 of our five have kidney disease. The Vet said that was very unusual to have 3 dogs in same home come up with kidney disease. After reading these posts, I now believe it is the food causing it. We only had them tested because one of the little ones was being lethargic so thought it may have been a sugar issue. Then we had the other one tested bot were positive for kidney disease. The older of the three has had kidney problems for over a year but she has eaten this food longer as well. We are not going to feed them any more Purina. I just hope we can correct the damage. They are all on kidney medication now.

My 14 year old Beagle Terrier became ill after Christmas ,very larthic wouldn't eat then when he did start vomiting and black bloody stool. He had eaten alpo lamb/ rice and chicken rice. Got worse, took to the vet. He had to be put down. Nothing they could do. Yes she was old but healthy. I think it was the canned alpo.

I have been feeding my cats Purina cat indoor formula for 5 years now. Ever since I put them on the food, they have been throwing up if not every day but every other day. I have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on vet bill and medications on treatment that never even worked. I thought that maybe it was because they were Mainecoon and med hair. But after extensive research and finding thousands of other customers online for years having the same issues, I was convinced.

My 3 year old Min Pin has been eating Purina Little Bites dog food and since then, she has been throwing up and having diarrhea. I stopped giving it to her and she went back to normal right after. Purina really needs to work on their brand and figure out why it's making all these dogs sick.

I was feeding my two beautiful cats with Meow Mix. I decided to change them over to Purina Indoor cat (they were getting a little hefty). Within a day of giving it to them, they started vomiting up all the food. When they had nothing else to vomit, they threw up brown liquid, with streams of a more solid liquid mixed in. They stopped eating. They'd walk up to their food bowls, and start crying (even though there was food in the bowls). I stopped giving them the food, and now they're getting better. I've decided to feed my cats and new puppy a raw diet, as nature intended. At least I know what's going into their body.

In late August 2011, one of my cats developed a saddle thrombosis. He was hospitalized and improved and was sent home. He regained total use of his rear legs which had been paralyzed. When at the vet, x-rays showed no enlargement of the heart. While he was recuperating, he would eat nothing but cooked chicken liver and baby food. As he regained strength, he resumed eating his regular diet, Purina Indoor Formula (purchased at Wal-Mart).

It's very interesting. My dog is currently at the vet, in bad condition. I have been there for days now. This is his third admission for treatment in 2 weeks. Severe vomiting, which then lead to vomiting of blood, then heavier vomiting of blood. At first, we couldn't figure out why he was sick. He would go into the vet vomiting blood, they would stabilize him, keep him for a few days (feeding him a bland prescription diet), he would come home acting fine, and he would eat his usual dinner, then wake up in the middle of the night violently ill again. He also has diarrhea. He went back to the Animal Hospital, where he was stabilized, and kept for a few days for observation, and treated for dehydration.

My dog ate Purina for almost a year. She became extremely skinny and throwing up a lot with diarrhea. I switched her to Pedigree and she is not sick anymore and is gaining weight. This would explain what may have been wrong with her!

I have eight cats and last Xmas someone dropped off a bag of dry food. Two of my cats open the bag without me knowing it and for days I keep seeing bloody diarrhea in the cat box. I found the bag opened and start my research. I found the product UPC listed as a recall on the FDA. I kept the bag in the trunk of my car. The diarrhea stopped. Then I thought maybe it's only certain products, so I thought I get a small of bag of Kaboodle (7 lbs.). My kitties were all in front of me while I opened the bag and soon enough after about 20 minutes, all of them are throwing up and an hour later the 3 cat box are filled with diarrhea. In about an hour I again look up the UPC; it's from the same lot. I got very dizzy and nauseated myself.

Go to the press against this huge corporation, and stand together to protect our pets! We have been feeding our pet with Purina for years. We bought a new bag, and our dogs became extremely ill. Projectile vomiting, black diarrhea, lethargy, and clamminess are the symptoms. We have four dogs, one of which (our 7 year old healthy plug) we had to rush to the vet's ER. She stayed overnight.

I have been feeding my cat Purina cat food for the last Six months. She has had three seizures since I have put her on this food. Is there something in the ingredients she might be allergic to? I have now taken her off permanently. I don't know what to think or do.

I just wanted to do a follow up about my dog that became extremely ill after eating Purina One Smart Blend (as noted in my prior email). I did call Purina to notify them. They said they would look into the product. I am not a Purina basher as I have never had a problem with any of their food in the past. My father worked for Nestle and owns stock in the company.

I just lost my beautiful, healthy vibrant, 16 week old Australian Shepherd after feeding her this dog food from a 34# bag purchased from PetSmart in Nashville, TN on January 4, 2012.

I have had my dogs on Purina One for years. I bought a bag in early January, and my 4 month old puppy started acting tired. I took her to the vets a week later with diarrhea. To make the long story short, we lost that puppy 5 days later, because three vets could not diagnose her. We had a necropsy (autopsy) performed, and it points to "calcification of vital organs with kidney lesions commonly seen in high doses of Vitamin D". This was a puppy never out of our fenced yard/house. I have nothing in my house to answer this. I believe this dog food is involved. I feed her several cans of Purina One mixed with hers, because she didn't like dry. I am contacting Purina, and someone is going to listen to me!

About 10 days ago, I got a bag of Purina One Smart Blend from Wal-Mart. I fed it to my dog. Within hours, the dog was very sick, vomiting, puking and very lethargic. The dog would not eat or drink. After two days, off to the vet. Vet drew a CBC which revealed an elevated white count. Dog placed on meds. Four days of treatment, the poor little guy was improving.

I just bought a bag of Purina One Chicken and Rice on Jan. 28th 2012. I feed it on occasion, when I am out of my regular food and need to pick something up at the grocery store. I never had any problems prior. My dog ate it Sunday and got up in the night with diarrhea. This afternoon, I noticed him staining and some blood. He seemed very lethargic, so I watched him and fed him a little pumpkin and rice. I went with a flashlight to watch him do his business and he is bleeding a lot from the rectum tonight! I just called the ER vet.

I recently purchased Purina Beneful brand dog food, but my dog became severely ill. Before, he was normal as any happy healthy dog. Now he wont eat, drink, and has bloody diarrhea. I switched him back to his old food, but he's still not doing any better, and now I need to take him to the vet. I found a website online & discovered that people have been having all kinds of severe health problems, even deaths with this product. The public deserves to know, these are people's pets & family members. I will never purchase this product again & plan to inform anyone else not to either.

I bought a bag of Purina one special care cat food at Walmart in Elizabeth. My cats became very sick, throwing up, etc. My little dog also got so sick that I had to take him to the emergency vet on Sunday. There is something wrong with this food. I have contacted Purina via email, but they have not responded yet. Please look into this so that other animals don't get sick as well. Thank you.

My dog has been on this food for about a year with no problems. I purchased a bag of Purina One Beyond from Walmart on Friday 01/27/2012. Saturday, she was dry heaving and had bloody diarrhea. She will not touch her food now. I think this is a bad batch!

For the past 9 years, my 4 cats ranging in ages have only eaten Fancy Feast can cat food. Summer of 2011, all my cats were hospitalized; two diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (one is 8 and the other 14). My other kitty had a serious kidney infection and endoscopy also showed us that she has gastritis of her stomach and an ulcer of her duodenum. She is 8. My fourth cat has a recurring UTI, she is 11. For about a year, they were finicky with their food. But since September of 2011, they have been getting sick on some of the flavors. Now, they get sick on all flavors or turn their noses up at all the flavors. They refused to eat a food they have loved and devoured for years! How do you end up with four extremely sick cats at once? Purina Fancy Feast cat food needs to be recalled!

Purina has killed my dog with their contaminated food. My dog "Duchess" who was perfectly healthy and happy suddenly became violently ill and died after suffering a very traumatic and violent death. As soon as we saw that something was wrong, we rushed her in but there was nothing the vets could do for her and we lost her. We are devastated. She suffered greatly and we were so helpless.

We decided to try the Purina One Smartblend Lamb & Rice formula dog food for our two labs. Within a few days, they started vomiting and having diarrhea. The only thing that had changed was the food. We had diligently mixed it with their former food, so I knew that it was more than just "new food adjustment". Our labs are from the same litter, but one is smaller than the other. He is now having difficulty walking, shaking, and unable to control his bowels. We have switched them back to their old food and will be calling the vet in the morning (or sooner if he worsens). Concerned, we began looking online for any type of recall on this food and instead found the numerous other pet owner's similar experiences with the Smartblend brand of products.

I raised my other first doxy on Purina One because I believed it to be the best dog food. So naturally I put my current doxy on Purina One. It has something in the mix. I believe it to be the chicken fat sprayed on the kibble. He loved it. But, he has ear infections, itchy skin, chronic urinary tract infection.

We have been feeding Purina One Smart blend Chicken and Rice to our bichon for several months. She won't eat the food from the last bag that we bought. She ate the first couple of bowls then starting gagging. Now she just runs to the bowl but then stares at the food. Then she gives me a dirty look. She has been lethargic and just a little "off". Wow! After reading all the recent complaints about Purina One, I am convinced there is a problem with their food. I also purchased a bag of Purina One from Wall Mart on 1-21-2012 and immediately after feeding it to our dog he became sick. This went on a few days, as we taught he had a virus. My wife was going to take him to the vet but went and purchased another brand of food and now is back to his old self. The makers of Purina One needs to check their product. We Purchased a large bag of Purina Smartblend to feed our dogs and soon found our rat terrier with diarrhea and vomiting. We immediately took her to the vet. After getting back and inspecting the food, there were larvae and white larvae "homes", and a type of small beetle or wheat bug consistently throughout the food. The next day, our younger dog, a Shiba Inu, presented with severe belly pain, whimpering to the touch and walking with his back arched and legs straightened as if it was painful to walk. Immediately, we took him to the vet also. My fiancee is currently there now as I write this. I documented the infestation with pictures and photos. I'm collecting a sample of the food and bugs, and freezing them.

I have been feeding my 1 cat Purina Indoor formula dry cat food for well over 3 years and my other 2 cats the same for 5 months now. All of a sudden ,the last bag I bought, which was a week ago, all of my cats are getting sick and vomiting up the cat food. I will be going to the store and buying a better brand of food tomorrow, but if my cats continue to get sick and vomit and I have to bring them to the vet. I am going to be extremely upset and make sure to let as many people as possible know about this because I am already seeing too many complaints about the exact same thing and all are very recent as well.

I noticed recently that Friskies canned cat food 5.5oz can, which I buy by the case, are all under-filled ranging from 4.9 to 5.1oz per can. The 13oz can I weighted was also under-filled. I've also random weighted same product from other stores and they too were under-filled. My scale is calibrated and the net weight of other canned foods are accurate so I know it's not my scale. I have notified Ralston-Purina by email. They expressed concern and possible causes but nothing about how/if/when they plan to rectify the under-fill. They did send me some coupons but that's not what I was looking for. Am I the only one that has noticed this or is it common practice? If so, consumers should know that they are not getting their money's worth.

I have been feeding my two cats Purina Cat Chow indoor formula for two years. After buying a new bag this week, my cats are throwing up and lethargic. They won't go near the food anymore. I thought maybe they had caught a virus but after reading these reviews I am convinced that the food is to blame.

We have been feeding our dogs with Purina One dry dog food for over a year and since we bought a large bag and have been feeding them, two out of five dogs have been sick with vomiting and diarrhea. After reading these posts, I do believe it is the food. It is not worth just convenience for purchasing dog food at your local grocery store. I will go back to a high quality brand today!

My dog has been eating Purina One Chicken and Rice since we got him about a year and a half ago, when he was two years old. Upon opening a brand new bag last week, he began vomiting every time he ate and would go two days without touching his food. We were very concerned about his health and before we took him to the vet, we looked online to see if we could find anything about a possible food recall and instead we found this! We immediately bought a more expensive, organic food (Nature's Variety from Petland) and tried it with our dog.

We too have had a sick kitty, diagnosed with kidney disease. He's only six years old! It's basically the same story as everyone else on this website, no apparent health problems ever. We fed him Purina Kit & Kaboodle. He was running around healthy one day, and then the next day he was lethargic and throwing up. I called the 1-800 number for Purina and reported this incident and was told that their food is tested on a regular basis and there are no current recalls for this food.

It would not let me give a 0 star but that is what I want. I purchased Purina One Smart Blend - Lamb and Rice formula a few days ago. My two yorkies are extremely sick now. This was the only change that I have made. I am hoping that I can reverse their condition before it is too late. Please look at these experiences that many people seem to be having and remove this food if you truly care for animals.

I've been feeding Purina One for 8 years. The last bag was purchased from PetSmart, a 34 pound bag. It had tan/cream colored bug looking shells in it. I did not think much until all 4 dogs got lethargic and pukey. I looked up "white specks in Purina One" and found this site. Hope our 4 dogs are okay. I will be purchasing new food tomorrow, back to pricier food! I always thought Purina One was okay for the cost as feeding 4 large dogs can get expensive! I will also call Purina in the morning.

I had written early about our dogs getting ill after eating Purina pet food. Our cats were also eating it. Both cats and both dogs stopped eating the food on their own. They refused after the first few days on it. Our puppy became ill as did our older dog. They were vomiting, had diarrhea, extended stomach, no appetite, excessive panting, and were drinking large amounts of water. After changing foods, the puppy and cats began eating again after a few days. Unfortunately, we had to put Jack, our 16 year old Jack Russell, down. He was in so much pain and wasn't recovering. His liver and pancreatic enzymes were elevated beyond belief. His stomach was hard as a rock and was vomiting a yellowish foamy fluid. He was urinating and defecating in the house which he hadn't done since he was a puppy!

Okay, this is about Pedigree large breed dog food my German shepherd has been on it since he was a puppy. He kept getting violently ill with the ** and vomiting. He got so sick at one point, he refused to eat or drink for 3 days until he was taken to the vet for rehydration and he had to stay overnight and could have died. When I switched his food, it all stopped. Well I switched him to Ol'roy and now he won't stop farting but it could be the Alpo treats I switched him to. But whatever the point is, this brand of dog food would have killed my dog. I will never buy Purina or Pedigree dog food again. I'm not risking my dog's life.

I've fed my dog Purina Lamb and Rice his whole life (13 years). And just the past few weeks, he began throwing up bile and hacking and refusing to touch the dog food. I figured his throat was sore, so I switched to soft canned food and he ate it up and began to get better. Then a few days ago, I switched him back to the old lamb and rice food again, and he began puking. This morning it was yellowish with traces of blood. I'm convinced now it was the food.

I have two big huskies and a Labrador as well and a year-old cat and couldn't get them to eat enough food to keep them healthy. My sister told me about Purina One, so I bought a bag last week as well as a bag of Purina One cat food because it seemed Coty, my year-old cat, would poop more than she ate. I tried Purina One and the majority of food stays in their bodies and poop is less. My 2 huskies love this food and eat all of it. I have no issues with Purina dog or cat food.

I am with heavy heart as I write this. Our 2 large dogs, 7 puppies, and 1 6-month-old dog have all been eating Purina One and Purina Puppy Dog chow. This week, one of the large dogs got very sick. Yesterday her puppies got sick and we lost 3 of them today. My 6-month-old dachshund got up in the middle of the night sick. I am so upset with the thought that all of the precious dogs are sick because we thought that Purina was the best for them. I am angry and sad that we may have given them something that hurt them. The one large dog that ate a different kind of food is the only one that isn't sick.

I posted a complaint on this site on December 21, 2011. My cat got deathly ill perhaps from eating Purina Kit N Kaboodles. It's taken me 3 weeks to make contact with Purina, they're not aware of the comments on this website. They said they'll mail me a kit for me to send them a sample of this bag of cat food to be tested. Please if other people think they have a bad batch of pet food, call Purina at 1-800-778-7462 to file a complaint and get the food in question tested. Purina can't recall pet food if the complaints aren't made with them directly.

Folks, please place in your comments the bar code on the side of can, the expiration date and the lot number at the bottom of the can (or similar info. for bags). Call Purina's 800 number found on the product (number corresponds with specific product or I'd list it here.)

My dog has been throwing up daily, so I decided to google it. I came across this site by accident. I'm glad I did because I had bought a small bag of Purina because it was comparable to the kind he had been eating. But with the Purina, I could buy a smaller bag and save some spending. But I will be switching back. I just hope I found this site in time.

How many animals have to die before consumers with pets are informed of this by the worthless media and others in the pockets of commercial conglomerates who are more concerned about their precious advertisers and kickbacks? I stumbled upon this website not looking for anything related here. I couldn't believe what I was reading. The same thing happened to us over a year ago. Apparently, I incorrectly assumed the problem was just a torn bag. When I opened a bag of Purina gl cat food, there was webbing and too many different kinds of bugs to count.

Purina One Lamb and Rice formula I bought at Petco was infested with Maggots. Half way through the bag, I noticed lots of maggots in our house and were crawling up the walls. I emptied the bag of Purina One into a tray and noticed tons of maggots and cocoons. Our new puppy has low appetite and lethargic. No diarrhea so far.

I will first say that I cannot definitively attribute our situation to the Purina dog food because we have not visibly seen anything in the dog food itself. However, we have two medium to large sized dogs that are both almost 5 years old. We have always fed them Purina One lamb and rice. This week our first dog was sick with diarrhea. We eliminated his food. When re-introduced the next day, he turned his nose up at it which never happens. Our other dog got was sick later that day. My husband investigated the backyard to see if they got into something and then concluded it must be a bad batch of food.

I purchased a 30-lb bag of Purina Cat Chow a few weeks ago at Petsmart in Covina, Calif. Same type as I have been feeding my four cats for years. Cats started throwing up and stopped eating. I wasn't sure what was going on. One cat started having blood in stools; the vet thinks it is colitis. They refuse to touch it. I put some outside for several feral cats that I feed. They also refuse to eat it. There is something very wrong with this bag. I intend to take it back to Petsmart tomorrow but I want to file a complaint with the agency that oversees pet food if there is any such thing.

My 5-year old cat has been eating Purina One Urinary Tract Formula most of his life and I have never seen what I saw in the most recent bag of food. Disgusting yellow worms with red heads! I noticed this because I noticed these worms crawling on my walls. I couldn't believe my eyes. I hope and pray my poor cat doesn't get sick over this. But now I wonder if this is the reason he all of a sudden has allergies? I am a very disappointed consumer and will never buy this brand of food again. It’s resulted to a waste of 22 bucks on the 16 pound bag that I had to throw out and the nervousness of knowing my cat may have certain ill feelings because of this food.

This is an alert to the public. I bought the large green Purina Dog Food 39lbs, expiry date April 2013 at Harris Teeter Reston, VA in early December. I feed it to my 3-year old border collie Zeppilin, a very healthy happy dog. Then I noticed within a one day that he stopped eating and this has never happened before. Then he started vomiting with lots of stomach cramps in a lot of pain. I took him to a vet and nothing showed in terms of a blockage with the x-ray, then Zeppilin started having diarrhea for a few days and it progressed quickly into blood in stool.

I found maggots in my puppy's food! It was the Purina One Large Breed Puppy Food. Disgusting! I sent a complaint to Purina. No response yet. Dog didn't want to eat food at every meal. Appetite diminished. No diarrhea yet.

I have a registered lab that had puppies. I was feeding her and the pups Purina One Smart Puppy food. I recently purchased two bags from Petco. One bag was kept in the house and the other outside. I couldn't understand why the mom started with loose stool. Then the pups did and a few got very sick, moaning and curling up. 1/3 into the bags, I noticed huge (yes huge) clumps of web stringy like stuff then actual live worms and little cocoons! This is in both bags, the one in the cold and the one in the house. Both were sealed and set in a tote so nothing could have gotten in them. I have stopped feeding the pups and mom this horrible food and am hoping the pups survive! I will never never buy Purina products again!

We changed to Purina One Beneful Original (best by July 2012) in late November and my dog has been extremely sick ever since. He has lost 30+ pounds and we've seen the vet twice now, with an appointment for a specialist on Monday. The vet has determined that he is having serious stomach problems but is unable to diagnosis what's going on. My dog will not eat or drink and has been on three medications which are only masking the symptoms. I am really starting to think the food is the source of the problem.

After I bought the last bag of Purina One-Lamb and Rice Formula, our pit bull has been "hacking up" stuff. It's foamy, and sometimes has bile in it. Our other dog also had the same problem, but it seems to have gone away for her. They didn't have any diarrhea. There aren't any maggots in the bag, as others have stated they've found. Got a kitten for my daughter and purchased Purina Kitten Chow for her. We also have a 4-year old cat. My adult dogs have been eating Purina One Beyond food for the last 7 months. The latest bag I purchased (a week ago), made both of them extremely sick. I recently purchased a bag of Purina Beneful Healthy Harvest, and noticed there were some cobwebs in the food. My dog has had an upset stomach for the past few days, and I was not sure what it was from. They said they didn't have responsibility, once the product has left the factory, and offered to send me coupons. After reading some of these complaints, I am switching to a new brand of dog food. I rang Purina to report that 13 cats (ferals and fosters) had become ill after being fed Kit-n-Kaboodle. The package is not expired. It had just been purchased. And these cats are accustomed to food rotation so 'sudden changes' have little, if any, effect. All cats regurgitated soon after the first meal containing this. By next day all were lethargic, vomiting clear, slightly frothy liquid, and had very gassy, very liquid, very bad smelling diarrhea. I rang Purina to report. Purina did not want a sample to test. No reports had come from anyone else, so there’s no further action to be expected from the manufacturer. Purina customer service was very kind but unable to actually do anything.

Our son's dog has become very, very ill after consuming Purina 1 Sensitive Systems dog food. The dog, Elway, is 10.5 years old, and has eaten this food all his life, but after opening a new bag (expiration date 12/2013) on Sunday, 11/27/2011, he began to have loose stools that night. By Monday morning, 11/28/11, he had vomited blood 5 times, and by Tuesday, and Wednesday, his diarrhea had blood in it as well. He continued to drink water during this time.

This is the second time that I bought Fancy Feast Cat Food Tender Liver and Chicken Classic. I opened the can, green and white mold all on top of the food. This is unacceptable. This is how animals get very sick and die. I will be switching brands ASAP.

I demand to know why. What is wrong with this stuff?

The last bag I bought just came to an end and when I poured the last remainder of the bag into his bowl, it was infested with worms. I would like an attorney to contact me right away because the fact that this company has not taken it upon themselves to recall this nightmare, they should really be ashamed of themselves! Luckily my dog is OK right now, but I will be monitoring him closely as he probably ate a huge bowl of worms yesterday.

I've been feeding my three cats Fancy Feast canned food Chopped Grill Feast for many years. They have always devoured their meal and licked the plates clean. Last week, I noticed they did not want to eat much and went from plate to plate, ate a little. Next day, none of them would eat it. I kept trying new cans. I found a small worm, and some kind of cocoon webbing in an 18lb bag of Pro Plan Shredded Chicken, adult dog food. I called the 800 number, and they are sending me coupons for a replacement. After reading the posts on this site, I may switch to another brand.

I purchased around 30 boxes of Purina One Beyond Cat food all with a "Best By" date of June 2012. I had emptied several boxes in an airtight container and one day noticed maggots in the food. I threw all the food in the trash and completely cleaned out the container. I opened a brand new box this evening and it contained maggots. I opened several more boxes and they also contained maggots. I noticed over the past couple of days that my cats have not really been eating much and am afraid they may have eaten maggot-infested food. I now have no food to feed them and am out all the money I paid for the food that had to be thrown away. This is absolutely inexcusable and I plan on contacting Purina to voice my complaint.

I feel like I'm saying the same thing as everyone else. I feed my cat very early in the morning. This morning, I noticed a different smell. It smelled like we had a gas leak. I even walked around the house sniffing the air, looking for the smell. Later in the morning, I was wondering about the cat food. I had attributed the smell to the very early morning hour. When I opened the can that had been in the fridge, I sniffed the food, it did not smell beefy. It smelled exactly like a gas leak. Thinking it was the can, I threw the rest away. The next can was the same. I checked the expiration date, 2013. The cat ate it, but sort of, because he was starved. Reading some of these makes me worried. We're on a pretty tight budget, and I don't really want to have to check different stores to see if they're better. Suggestions?

I had a large green bag of Purina dog food. I used for months until two nights ago, our dog broke out in hives, burns to ears and stomach, nose swelled all but closed and we made an emergency trip to vets. Another trip to vet the third morning. Blood work confirmed it was not a bug bite or poison and vet suggested the food. We swapped to a vet provided one and he's now doing better.

I recently purchased a bag of Purina One Beyond (chicken). I have discovered in the food (and now in my home) small white worms with dark heads. The bad expiration date is May 2012, so it's not old food. I'm hoping none of my cats ingested these worms/larvae and if they did, it is not harmful to them. Quality control at Purina needs to rectify this matter.

Yesterday evening, I noticed weird little worms along the ceiling in the kitchen. I didn't know what was causing this but I killed the worms that I saw with a broom (I didn't have any insecticide), moved the cat's food dish to a different room, and placed an open bag of Purina One Salmon into the pantry. The next day, as she was "deworming" the kitchen, my roommate found maggots in the pantry and I noticed that they were also in the dish. When I looked in the bag, there appeared to be cobwebs as stated in someone's previous complaint. I've thrown away the bag and I plan to call the vet in the morning to make sure that my cat is okay. My cat is 3 years old and I have been purchasing Purina products since he was a kitten. I am very disappointed as I have never had a problem before and I will definitely have to find another product. I am thankful that I found this site as I was beginning to think that it was the store where I bought it from.

I purchased a bag of Purina Pro Plan. A week later, we found small worms throughout the dog food. We kept the food in an airtight container as we noticed this twice before with the same food. I did return the dog food to Petco and they allowed me to exchange for a different brand. Although I explained to them what happened and told them that it is likely from flies or something that laid eggs in the food prior to packaging, the manager simply said they would throw it out. I told them they had a bigger problem as this was the third time this occurred with this food. My dog is sick and I'm sure other dogs will become ill if the company (Purina) doesn't do something about this. The food should be pulled and someone needs to inspect the factory where this stuff is made. I will never buy Purina Pro Plan again and I will advise anyone I know with a dog just what happened.

My dog is diabetic and we have had to feed her Purina Pro Plan Rice food to help keep her glucose levels more even. We had been feeding her this for the last 4 years. Lately she has been vomiting and choking every time she eats and she also has been chewing on her leg non-stop. The vet has prescribed an antibiotic and a spray for her leg (which the leg is too far gone now for a spray to work) and I just looked up the food online and found all of you that have had similar problems! I have a lot of indoor cats and had been giving them Purina cat chow for over a year. All of a sudden, many of them started vomiting and having diarrhea. I just found out about the recall in some states due to salmonella but I don't have the money to take all of them to the vet. I went to Petsmart to return two bags I had left and let them know about it. Purina should extend the recall and compensate customers.

We purchased a large bag of Purina One Salmon dry cat food to give to a needy pet owner. She emailed us a couple of days later ,to say that there were maggots, lots of them with what looked to be like strands or webs with more dead gnats or flies, pieces of web in the food and "shells" of gnats or flies in the bag. My cats have eaten Friskies cat food for years. They like the whitefish pate and the turkey filets. It had 8 Rotisserie Chicken and 4 Butcher Block Beef Tenderloin. It did not have the Savory Steak. I buy this product all the time and I will continue to. I just hope that this is a one-time problem.

We have been feeding our cats with Fancy Feast twice a day for years. Recently, we opened a new case of Seafood Feast Variety Classic, which was purchased at Costco with lot number SPF3516/41302605. Massive vomiting ensued and without warning. No parasites, grass, hairballs, etc, just the cat food that had been eaten and undigested. I searched the pantry and found an old forgotten can of beef with Gravy Fancy Feast and tried that. Our cat was able to hold down the food for the first time in days. We almost went to the vet for a full work up that would have cost us hundreds of dollars. Thank goodness we figured out.

My Purina One Beyond chicken formula for dogs had 2 kings of bugs and larva/eggs in it. I keep it in a container and not the bag, in my pantry. I purchased it last week at a "big box" store and it is the only thing I purchased that was dry goods. I called the store and they are willing to replace the food & were very kind; however, I am switching back to organic food. It was absolutely terrible! They had taken over and where everywhere in the pantry. The container is a bin type storage, not airtight. I had to throw out a lot of other items to be safe, including paper goods and scrub the walls/floors of my pantry & kitchen. My dogs seem to be fine but this was just a very bad experience. I only started buying it a couple months ago and I had been buying organic for years. I've learned my lesson.

This is difficult because Purina is owned by Nestle. Look at the labels, because most of the commercial food in grocery stores is manufactured by Nestle under different brands. Note the recent recall of cat food "One" brand for microbiological contamination.

I have been using Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life dry food for some time now, with no problems. This week, that all changed. My cats developed vomiting and diarrhea, which has severely affected my 20-year old cat. It was easy to pinpoint the food as the culprit because I have several cats and only the ones who eat this food have developed the illness. This forum has taught me that Purina's standards are slipping that is why I plan to discontinue using this brand of cat food and buy a different brand for my pets.

I purchased a 34 lb bag of Purina One Smartblend dog food every three to four weeks for my two Labradors. The last bag I purchased seemed fine until I noticed a new infestation of little black bugs. Upon further inspection through the contents of the bag, I noticed clusters of white "eggs" adhered to quite a bit of the food. Some of these clusters contained larvae in the process of hatching. I immediately threw out the remaining contents of the bag but did save samples for my vet.

We switched our cat to Friskies soft cat food in cans. After only 1 can of Friskies, salmon flavor, our cat became ill, vomiting violently and stopped eating and drinking. The veterinarian advised we take him to the emergency room. He was admitted and both the vet and hospital conjectured that some sort of toxic/poisoning might have happened. We chose to euthanize him a few days later when it became clear that he had acute kidney failure and was in a lot of agony.

I have been buying my diabetic cat Fancy Feast which is a Purina brand for over a year now. He gets Fancy Feast Tender Beef Classic. It's the only thing he can have that keeps his blood sugar on track. Around a month ago, I bought another set of cans and when I opened one can, the smell coming from the can was repulsive. It was so bad that I thought it was bad and threw it away.

I bought a 20 pound bag of Pro Plan chicken and rice for my dog 3 weeks ago. I discovered it had live bugs in it after feeding it to my dog for 3 weeks. I couldn't believe it. I had it stored in a sealed container to keep it fresh. Now, I know why he wasn't eating so much of it and sometimes wouldn't eat it at all. They were in the bottom of the bowl and you couldn't see them till you moved the kernels around. I returned it to the store where I bought it and they replaced it and were so sorry about this. I contacted Purina and they said it wasn't from their plant. Yeah, right. Pass the buck.

I've been feeding my two cats Fancy Feast wet food in a variety of flavors for three years, but suddenly last week, it started making them sick - vomiting and diarrhea. I switched foods to a health-food brand, and it cleared up immediately. What's going on with Fancy Feast?

My 4 1/2 year old lab has eaten nothing but Purina Puppy Chow and then, Purina One. All of a sudden, 3 weeks ago, she started not wanting to eat. I then started mixing wet dog food trying to get her to eat. She progressively got worse and I brought her to the vets. We were told her liver was shutting down and there was nothing that we could do. She then passed away later that day. I never knew of a recall of the dog food and I wonder now if it was the "good" dog food that I have been feeding her since she was a puppy.

We have fed our 3 dachshunds with Purina shredded blend for over a year and it is quite expensive to have the last 2 bags. They have moth larva in the food. We checked for bugs and when we put it in an air tight container there is nothing but a week later there are little moths that are flying out of the container. I am switching foods immediately.

Somebody needs to look into the quality control of this product.

I purchased a bag of Little Bites dog food made by Purina. When I opened the bag, I found moths, bugs and other matters that I can't identify in the bag. The moths were still alive and I didn't notice this until after I fed my dogs. I just want people to know now so that they will check the bags and keep an eye on their dogs.

My six year old cat has eaten the same food for the last five years, Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach mixed with Purina Hairball formula. I recently purchased new bags of each at the local Petsmart. Last week, my cat threw up a hairball. Vet put her on antibiotics and she's fine now, but the cat that doesn't eat much of the wet food has been just fine. I'm throwing this out and won't buy Purina ever again!

Two days ago, we bought a bag of Purina One Chicken and Rice Dog Food for our dogs at PetsMart. When we got home and opened it up, it was full of little black bugs. We immediately took it back to PetsMart and they refunded our money. We have also experienced worms with this brand and at times, our dogs just don't want to eat it. It also makes me wonder if this dog food played a role in the loss of our 4 year old French Bulldog a month ago. After thousands of dollars and every test imaginable, the vets just couldn't find a cause to her vomiting and breathing problems. Because she was a Frenchie, breathing problems are usually attributed to the breed. The possibility that tainted dog food may have contributed to her death will haunt me for the rest of my life.

I have an American Eskimo Papillon mix, 35 lbs, that looks like a border collie puppy. For the past month, I have been feeding my dog Purina One canned dog food with a mixture of Taste of the Wild dry food with salmon. It was a mixture of 1/4 can with 1 cup dry. At first, she did not seem to have any problems but after a week, she no longer wanted the food. She eventually ate it after being hungry. I have been giving my dogs Purina Little Bites for years. Last week, my American Bulldog became very sick after a new purchase of the product. Now my Black Lab is sick. It has the same symptoms - dehydration, vomiting etc. Something is wrong with this product and someone should look into it.

My 2-year old puggle, Toby, has always loved Purina ProPlan shredded beef and rice. I never had a problem with him eating his food and was the only dry food he would eat. This past week is a different story. He only eats about 1/2 of his food, and then has to go out and eat a ton of grass and vomit. I need to know if there are other dog-lovers out there that have been having the same problem. Toby goes to the vet tomorrow so we will see what is going on.

About 6 weeks ago, I purchased Purina's new food, Purina Beyond. Two out of my 5 cats have developed bladder infections -- both females. Please beware of this. UTIs can be life-threatening, if undetected.
