I made a purchase of 5 items this afternoon. Website stated they had the products. 2 hours later all 5 items are reported as back-ordered. Tried to sign-in to cancel order and can't sign-in. Called 888# and they can't cancel the order, and when I could get into my account online the website doesn't allow you to cancel your order, and by the way I was charged for the order on pending charges on my Credit card. This company is showing deceptive practices going into the 2015 Holiday season! This company in my opinion is a Fraud and my Credit Card company seems to agree. How many people in this country purchase items to get back-ordered. This is like a rain-check of the 1980's, but being charged for something you have not received!!

Just took my dog to the PETCO grooming located in Owings mills, Maryland and it was a terrible job. My dog was cut several times, had patches of fur missing in her coat, and clumps of left over fur in her coat. It was disgraceful. I paid over $70 and trusted these people who worked for this company to do the job I paid for and instead I was given something less than the value. I'm so hurt, frustrated, and I feel like I've been taken advantage of. I'm not sure if there needs to be more training or if this is just the standards of this company. What I do know is I will never take my dog here again. Terrible first impression.

I took my dog to PETCO grooming few days ago. Worst grooming ever seen. His fur was still damp and she did not removed matted fur. Nails were not cut evenly. Inside his ears were wet. Not only horrible grooming job she did, but also groomer was yelling at a little dog while she was cutting the little dog's fur. Unprofessional, Very disappointed. They charged us $50+. Do not recommend.

My dog was groomed on 11/14 by Cheyenne, store 1729 and she did a HORRIBLE job. When we arrived, she had a look on her face like she didn't want to groom him because he's old and I asked her if she was going to groom him to which she responded yes. 5 hours later, I picked him up and didn't look at him at that moment because I wanted to pay and get him home since he had not eaten yet. Cheyenne said that she did the best she could and his haircut made him look like a turtle and she giggled. Once I got him home, I was floored. He did look like a turtle and he had gashes where apparently the clippers must have slipped.

She left fur on one front and rear paw and the other two were shaved completely. Hair at the top was cut to look like a shell and I know she did this on purpose because she didn't want to cut his hair. I called and talked with the manager Karen and she agreed to redo but I don't have time, however, I was given a full refund. I am still quite angry and have had him in a doggy shirt since I picked him up. My poor, old dog already suffers from chronic bronchitis but for someone to be so cruel and intentionally mock an old dog is really low. I also want to mention that when I stopped by to get my refund, I went into the grooming area to help the tech find my info while Cheyenne ran and hid in the back with the other animals. I will never take my dog, any future dogs of mine or recommend Petco to anyone. This has been really upsetting!!!

I have had a successful saltwater aquarium for a few years. I usually go to just one local fish store. But this past August I thought I would buy some fish from my local Petco in Edwardsville Illinois. Every fish I bought died after a week. Several hundred dollars worth of fish. I tested my water and everything was excellent each time. And all of my other fish were doing great. Including more sensitive coral. And anemones. So I contacted Petco. They gave my info to the store. The store manager called me and was very rude and accused me of having poor water quality. Then I contacted the district manager who accused me of the same thing. I'm advised I do a 15% water change every single week. And my aquarium is not the problem. Your fish are the issue. And how you acclimate them etc.

Then a month ago I went in and spoke to the usual girls that work in the aquarium section who are all nice and helpful. I bought a clownfish and the assistant manager who is always very nice advised me they no longer are allowed to acclimate their new fish that comes in which low salinity to high salinity leads to osmotic shock. So this past Friday 11/13/2015, I called to see if they had a coral beauty angelfish in the employee said they did. I asked them to hold it for me. I drove to the Petco after work about 20 min out of my way. When I got there the same people I always saw for the several months were gone except this very rude big guy with a beard. He told me that I was not ALLOWED to buy any fish from them unless I bring in a water sample first and he stated again that I would need to bring in a water sample each time I come in to buy a fish. I was outraged.

I advised, I drove out of my way in rush hour traffic to buy this fish. He sent a text to the store manager and the store manager confirmed that per the district manager I wasn't allowed to buy any fish without a water sample each time. I felt embarrassed. Discriminated against and outraged. I take pride in my aquarium and all of my fish, corals, and inverts. I need something done. I have never been treated so poorly at a store in my life!!!

I took my dog for grooming (first time with this establishment). Worst grooming ever! Would not even know that he had been there other than for dragging his butt across the floors when we got home. I only took him because I could not get in to his regular groomer for almost 4 weeks. She normally has him for 1 to 1-1/2 hours at most. Petco had him for 3 1/2 hours. What a total waste of $41.00!

Every time I tried, after dozens of pop-ups asking me to give away my friends' emails, I got an error message stating that my credit card information did not agree to my address information and that I should contact my credit card company to ask how I should put it in. "Chat" is always a waste of time because the "person" takes forever to try & understand what's going on. I called their online directly (after 5 minutes on hold waiting for someone) and the stupid rep went throughout my entire order, line by line and then at the end would not give me the same discounts as I would have gotten had my online order gone through without their glitch. I GAVE UP AFTER 3 DAYS!!!!

She seems to make comments that are not needed - most ok to give advice but learn how to give it without making the customer feel worse. She was being sarcastic. I'm not the type who complains but this lady twice on 2 different occasions had shown No compassion. She's in the wrong business. I felt like I was being chastised. The young man however running the register has awesome customer service skills and made me feel at ease.

Written a review "on hold" from 1/25/2015 about this same issue, different location. Recent visit to Petco 10/16/2015. Petco is still selling houseplants in the aquatics. They are completely submerged under water. It is nice seeing a variety of actual aquatic plants in these aquarium plant holding tanks that look half decent, however, the other half of them are not true aquatics. Most of the plants aren't properly labeled on the tanks, in fact, I believe this is their way of getting us - it is that they don't label them thinking, "they don't know what they are but they look good, let's sell them. As soon as all their fish die, they'll be back for more fish and plants." I talked to the guy who was getting my real aquatic plant for me and he told me how he knew some of the plants were not meant for aquariums but the higher ups don't care and they won't do anything about it. Why are these plants still being sold for aquarium use?

It is unethical. It is making people believe it is something it is not. This isn't just a white lie, these aren't sword plants, java fern or the like of being able to survive in and out of water. These true houseplants cannot survive fully submerged in water, period. They will slowly die and pollute our aquariums, affecting water parameters, and slowly kill all fauna. In fact some of these plants can be slightly toxic. Ever buy one of these plants and get an itch when placing your hand in the water? Now just imagine taking a bath in it, like soaking in poison ivy. Even if I had a vivarium they wouldn't be suitable to be fully submersed. Petco is knowingly subjecting live animals to cruelty. I go to aquatic plants and that's what I expect to see, real aquatic plants. Some of these plants are also toxic if ingested. There are plenty of plant eating fish out there. Why is this not changing?

I did not know to bring water with me for the return. The associate that waited on me was very rude and drilled me on how big the tanks were, how long they were established, insinuating that it was my fault the fish had died. I've had large aquariums for about 30 years now and I'm not a novice. She then told me because I'd lost 2 fish out of the 10 or 12 guppies, I was starting my granddaughter's tank with an excessive amount of fish to loose. She did get me my 2 fish but I will not return any of the others that have died. My tank water tested out just fine. They'd been cycled and she had no right to be nasty with me. If you don't want to fulfill the warranty you supply on your fish then don't offer it and don't be nasty when people do.

I have an AKC Maltese named Sebastian. I have always been very particular when it comes to my animals. I visited the Petco store in Tyler, Texas on Highway 69 close to the 49 Toll Road approximately 3 months ago and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were exceptionally courteous and friendly, as well as the managers.

My purpose in visiting the store was to inquire about Obedience Training Classes for my puppy, his name is Sebastian. I was able to meet both of the instructors Beth Ann and Mary Beth and I was so impressed with their experience and handling of the animals that I signed up for every class they offered as well as signing up for private classes (my preference) as Sebastian was quite small, about 3-4 pounds, and I thought he would benefit with this kind of initial training. I have been very pleased with his training and would highly recommend Petco to anyone considering Obedience Training for their dog. Incidentally, if you sign up for all of the classes you are given a huge discount which is always beneficial to dog owners. As a matter of fact, it is such a positive experience shopping at this store that I regularly purchase all of Sebastian's toys, snacks, collars, and leashes.

Unfortunately, the mfg. of his dog food cannot keep up with the Petco's consumer demand and so it is sold elsewhere in a smaller retail store. I have recently purchased some cold weather jackets for him to wear now that the cooler seasons are upon us. Both Sebastian and I love coming to this store as he gets a chance to meet everyone that comes into the store. You see, Sebastian thinks everyone comes to this store to make a big fuss over him and no one has ever let him down. Just in case you're wondering, yes the store itself is very clean, and yes even more importantly, yes the restrooms are clean. I am sure not every store can be as Exceptional as the Tyler, Texas store. So if you're in the area, stop by and see this store for yourself and meet the staff. Just tell them Sebastian asked you to stop by.

I adopted my first cat and decided to go to Petco to pick up supplies. I didn't know much about the Furminator but I heard good things about it. I saw the ones for dogs on display and asked if it worked the same for cats. The woman at the register said "uh well what type of cat is it?" And I told her I didn't know because I was picking her up today and the Humane Society didn't know what breed she was. She then glared at me and said in the most condescending tone, "Oh what, you haven't even gotten the thing yet and you're planning on SHAVING it?" So I was like "No, this isn't a razor. It's a comb. Right?" And she told me to ask the groomers of the store.

So I asked them, "Is this good for cats?" And they looked at me and said "What exactly do you plan on doing with this?" And I said, "Groom my cat?" And one lady said "Well, I mean I guess. I use the same thing on my cat, works pretty good." Like, "Ok thanks for the input" but what's with that attitude?? I ended up buying it at Petsmart a few days later.

The last time I was there the sea anemone was totally dead and the fish were eating its corpse and the rep in fish tried to tell me that thing was alive and healthy. I recently purchased four convict cichlid juveniles from PETCO. I kept the receipt because I have a long history with PETCO and fish dying. I have a well established 55 gallon tank. I correctly added these four fish to my tank and after 1 week all four passed away. The rest of my tank is fine. I bagged up some water and brought my receipt to the store, they proceeded to check my water and it was fine. I brought the issue to the register with my water and they told me that I could not get any money back because the four fish I purchased were donated. They wanted to give me a coupon for a % off my next purchase. Mind you I spent 20$ on these fish.

Would have been wonderful to know that there is no refund on donated fish! Maybe I would have only purchased one instead of four. They insisted that they couldn't do anything for me so I suggested that they provide me with four new fish... from that same group of donated ones. The problem was not fixed until I came up with a solution.

I usually call a day or two before I want to bring them. They get a bath every three to four months. They were just there in April or May. Now I am told that my 16 year old is over 13 (um, yea!) and has hip dysplasia so they can't groom him... WHAT??

I've never heard a whisper of anything relating to either of them coming close to being too old... Not even that this is a policy of Petco's!! I was trying to use repeat delivery since they are having a great deal right now, but repeat delivery would not apply my Petco pals rewards (even though I did check the box to automatically apply them). After trying to figure out why my reward dollars were not being applied, I went back to view my cart and I reached a login page. Every time I logged in at this point it would bring me right back to the login page! I cleared my cookies and cache and I was still having the same problem so I repeated my computer completely.

After doing this, I got back onto the website and decided it was time to get help by chatting with a rep. After a few minutes of waiting for a rep to chat with, I became distracted. I was disconnected because I did not respond immediately. At this point I did not want to wait for another representative, so I tried using a different platform (IE instead of Firefox). My rewards were still not being applied, so I decided to try chat again. Once I finally was able to chat, the representative did not listen to me. She kept telling me to try all of the things I have already tried. I'll take the loss of those rewards and take my business to a different site where I do not have to waste 45 minutes of my time trying to spend my money!

Dear PETCO; I really like shopping at your stores for goodies for our critters - Liberty (canine), Olive (feline), and D'Shawn (reptile). Here is a simple suggestion: if you are going to sell live rodents AND live snakes, please train your employees to not have a hissy-fit if they learn a customer is actually going to feed one of your items (a mouse) to another one of your items (a snake). One more thing -- train the employees to let the customer know that the "Live Animal Purchase Form" is NOT mandatory for the purchase of snake food (mice). It seems as when a customer writes "REFUSED" on this form, the already fit throwing employee becomes MORE enraged. Thank you, a loyal customer.

My daughter started to cry because she was worried about the hamster. The hamster was put back into its cage to calm down for a minute, and it ran to a corner. The hamster then bit the employee when he tried to take it out again. Then, the employee pushed the hamster farther into the corner, very roughly. I am so upset with what happened. I won't be shopping at Petco again!!

On multiple occasions Petco employee gave me incorrectly information that led me to neglect my animals. The conditions in which they house their bettas are awful! The worst part is Petco trains its employees to tell customers that the small dishes (less than a quarter of a gallon) are bettas' natural habitats. They say that bettas live in rice paddy puddles and jump from one to another and that these puddles are the size of the dishes. THIS IS BLATANTLY FALSE. Google rice paddies. They are 1 meter squared or more bodies of waters. Petco employees lead its customers to belief the small "tank kits" which is as small as half or a quarter of a gallon, is a good environment. Their information lead to animal negligence and abuse.

I took my dog to be groomed today as I've done for the past year. He would not walk in the back room so he lied down on the floor on his back wanting to be petted trying to avoid going in the back. The manager DAWN came stomping out from the back like "we the people", with a blue rope choke hold, put it around his neck as she was doing that she was saying "Caesar, we are not going to play this game, get up!" Going on and on dragging him up from the rope he got up. She stormed in the back room. The other employee who was SUPPOSED to groom him looked at me and couldn't believe what she just witnessed.

I told her to go get my dog! She did and walked out with Dawn and I said to Dawn "I cannot believe how inappropriate you just acted. I'll never return here again!" She said "I'm sorry." I called the store manager ASAP and told my story. She said it wasn't the first time there was a complaint with her. The store manager was apologetic and sympathized. No wonder why my dog was afraid to get groomed! She must mistreat these animals. BEWARE!!! He's a Rottweiler and so kind. Don't go to this groomer!!!

My experience with this one Petco actually started 2 years ago. I went to the 12801 Chenal Parkway Petco in Little Rock Arkansas. I had bought a GCC conure as a pal to my current GCC on April 27th 2013. When we bought him we paid 374.22. We brought him home and when we took him out of his box he seemed very very timid. Odd for a GCC. When we would hold him he would literally lay flat and not move at all. No bites, no attempt to fly. It was like holding a dead bird. My heart was crushed. This poor baby, what happened to him? I was determined to make things better. After 2 years my baby Kiwi has flourished and is an active happy bird, but it took 2 years!

Now to present day. I had vowed I would not shop that location again but due to a storm and my need for birdy food I stopped. I went back to the birds section and was horrified! They had three Black Caped conures. The cages they were in were horrible. They were all metal. No bottom fill to absorb droppings so the birds were trampling in their own poop. They all there sat there like bumps on the logs looking very disassociated. There was one uncovered bright fluorescent light shining on every bird in each enclosure. The food dishes were filthy. The plexiglass they were behind was filthy. I asked the cashier why they had no toys for these birds for their beaks. I was told that they chew them up too much and that Petco was too cheap to let them care for the birds properly! Are you kidding me?! They are selling these birds for 500.00!

The manager had to come to help the girl with my 5.00 e-card gift and I asked him why they were in those cages. They had much better cages just to the left that I was used to seeing the conures in at other Petco's that were completely empty! I left the store in tears seeing these poor birds treated so horribly. As another post stated here, "These are social birds!" I asked about their interactions with the birds and was told they "try" as much as they can. I asked about one specific bird and was told he was very aggressive so he was placed away from the other birds as punishment! These birds are angry because this Petco has no clue how to handle their birds and the store is obviously poorly managed if the manager will allow this to go on.

Inspect what you expect. There are obviously low expectations here. Something has to be done on a broader level about Petco and their bird handling. I give kudos to PetSmart in my area, they stopped selling conures. Let people buy them from reputable breeders that will train them correctly. I have attached my babies to share what happy conures look like. I have nothing but pain for the babies I had to leave in that store and cry every time I think about them now. I pray someone will come soon and adopt them and understand there may be some work involved.

I just rescued a kitty. I went shopping at Petco.com and checked I could purchase and return to the store if I wanted to. When I proceeded to the checkout with my items and the option to pay via PAYPAL presented itself and liking to protect my credit card info, I chose to pay via PAYPAL. When I went to return a couple of items, I had to print my actual receipt out online and in doing so read on the receipt that if I paid via PAYPAL and returned items to the store, I would not be given a full refund but store credit - which I did not want for items I purchase via my credit card cloaked in PAYPAL.

However, If I wanted to pay for postage to return said items to the warehouse, I could get a full refund via PAYPAL. This is not acceptable. It wasn't like I wandered in off the street with no receipt. I just paid for the items and there seems to be no dispute over that FACT, just the inability to execute common sense. I have returned items to Target and Sears which I purchased through PAYPAL with no issue. I used Petco's online help chat and they were sorry, that's the way it is. I certainly won't be purchasing anything from Petco again, even though I was even when PetSmart just opened a store on my block.

I was in Petco on Highway 281 in the Village at Stone Oak Center. I was looking at the adorable kittens for adoption by an organization called San Antonio Pets Alive. The enclosures that the kittens were kept in were absolutely filthy. They had feces, cat litter and dry food all over the glass and floor and even some on the poor kittens. I don't know how often they clean the enclosures but it's not often enough, especially for kittens that play a lot. These poor, precious kittens have less of a chance getting adopted when they are in an enclosure that's so filthy. This is unhealthy and very unnecessary. I wanted to take them all home! If the SAPA volunteers are not able to come clean often enough then the Petco employees should chip in and help out, especially when they are not busy which was the case when I was in there.

When we got home, we noticed he had huge raw red marks on his belly from thrashing around and getting hurt by the rope that tied him up. He limped for three days. It was terrible! I finally placed an order, but there was no confirmation email and no record of the order in my account. I also couldn't find my credit card on file in my account. I thought it didn't go through. I tried again. No confirmation. Nothing in my Petco account. Immediately I called the company. I was told I had NO orders placed. No card on file. NO PROBLEM. (I then placed an order with another company. It went through without a hitch and was shipped immediately.) Five hours later I received TWO confirmation emails.

TWO orders were being shipped from petco.com. I called petco.com immediately. I was assured that ALL was canceled. My card would not be charged. The order(s) would not be shipped. The next day I received TWO emails. TWO orders had been shipped. The call center apologized when I contacted them. They couldn't do anything about it. The only option is to accept the orders and return them to a store 30 miles away. Meanwhile, I contacted VISA to make sure no more charges were placed on my card. I have over $160 of food being delivered for an elderly, ill dog. Perhaps this isn't incompetence or deception. Maybe the website is hopelessly slow. Either way, there is a problem.

Within a week, I have had a few major problems with PetCo...and it's only getting worse! I ordered a cat tree from Petco's online eBay store. After purchasing it, I noticed that their online website and their Amazon store, had the same item at the same price, but had different shipping times. Both their website and their Amazon store, state that the product would ship out within 48 hours. Their eBay store...2 WEEKS!!! After reviewing their online website, I went to my local Petco store in Pinellas Park, Florida. I grabbed the items and took them to the register. That's when some snot-nosed brat behind the counter informed me that the stores will not honor the prices that are on the website. IT'S THE SAME COMPANY!!!

After my bad experience, I called their 800 customer service number to register a complaint. A Middle Eastern man came on the phone and told me his name was ** (yeah...right!). After voicing my complaints, he then proceeded to give me excuses as to the different shipping times for the SAME ITEM. When I caught him in his lies, he then stated to me, "Let me educate you on how we do business." Right then, I interrupted him and told him, "No...you don't educate the customer! You make the customer happy! You don't give the customer lame excuses...and you don't talk to customers like they are stupid!" I requested to have a supervisor contact me back.

About 3 hours later, I received a telephone call from another middle eastern person who stated she was a supervisor. I, again, told her my complaints and what the customer service rep stated. Midway through our call, she decided to inform me that the call was being recorded. Also, she started giving me excuses as to shipping times and never addressed the price matching problem between their website and their stores. I was very frustrated with her excuses and I told her that they need to stop thinking that Americans are stupid. I told her that I was contacting Petco's corporate office in the morning and I disconnected the call.

I have noticed that the Petco in Pinellas Park, Florida is a brand new store...but feels very "dirty". They do not carry a wide variety of ANYTHING and their cat department is ridiculously small. From here on out, I will conduct my business with PetSmart. Not only does PetSmart have a larger variety of products, they have cleaner stores, knowledgeable employees and excellent customer service. When I told them of the problem that I had at Petco, they offered me 20% off of the items that I didn't get at Petco.

Plus, they informed me that not only will they match their own website prices in store, but they will match ANYONE's website prices on same products that they carry. In all honesty, Petco states they have been in business since 1965...I really don't see how. Especially with all of the complaints they have, the poor inventory of products they carry in stores, and the way their stores are not cleaned!

I was still wearing the hospital ID bracelet from my accident. I asked the woman if she had some additional boxes of my cats' favorite food, as I was going straight home and did not plan to go out again for a couple of weeks. She said she would check, but instead she kept waiting on people that approached the register instead of helping me. When I asked her to call someone else, she said "they were all with customers" but I could not see any Petco employees in the store.

Finally I told her that I was going to pay for what I had, and forget everything else. She rang me up, and then I asked her for help in loading my purchases onto my car. I was parked right in front of the store. There was only one person in line behind me, and she could have easily asked the person if she could take a couple of minutes to help me. She did not, and there was still no sign of the other employees that were "helping other customers", this was 35 minutes after I entered the store.

I left in a fury, and complete strangers on the sidewalk obviously could see I needed help, and helped me load the pet food in my car. You may ask, why did I have to go to Petco when I should have been in bed? Because my cats had no food, and I live alone. Telling the cats to suck it up and not eat for at least a week is not an option for people who love their pets. I will never shop at Petco again, I have never been so badly treated in my life. The "manager" needs sensitivity training.

I bought the fish at 5:30, and by 9:00 two of them were dead. I figured it wasn't a big deal and went back to Petco with my sister to get them replaced. This time they told us that it wasn't their fault that they died and we couldn't get a refund, even though on their website there is a 30 day refund policy. So I bought two more fish, they lasted throughout the day, then as my sister and I were going to bed, we saw yet another fish floating belly up to the top of the tank.

I called to complain again today and ask what fish I could get that would last longer than 5 pathetic hours, and after sitting on hold forever they simply told me it was "one of the risks of purchasing a fish". I bought a different fish from a different store, and it's been alive for almost a year. Yet, at Petco, fish can't live for more than 5 hours? This is not the first bad experience I've had with Petco, and I have no intention of returning. Although fish are more expensive other places, I am more than willing to go out of my way for a new fish, and am perfectly fine paying more for the sole reason that they are NOT Petco.

I recently went into the Petco that is located in Pikeville, Ky. I went inside to purchase two pet rats. The employee who got the rats out for me had no idea what he was doing. He kept picking them up by their tail and dropped them in the box. I noticed that most of the rats had a little bit of the sniffles so I just figured they just arrived and this was the "new home sniffles"... I purchased the rats and brought them home to my Critter Nation 161 small animal cage, which is the perfect size for 2-4 rats. I gave them fresh food and water everyday, used fleece as bedding, cleaned their cage every 2 days and used a NATURAL cage cleaner that contained no fragrance or dyes. I know rats are very prone to Upper respiratory infections and that's why I made sure to keep everything clean for them. After 2 weeks one kept getting worse, so I decided to return them both, due to the fact they aren't supposed to be alone. THEY NEED COMPANIONS.

After I returned them and told them what was going on, I picked out two more rats, this time both baby dumbos. The same thing happened with these rats as well, except A LOT worse and one went downhill VERY fast. I took him to the vet ASAP, he couldn't move, and wouldn't eat or drink. The vet told me he had an upper respiratory infection and gave me antibiotics, and told me to give him a little bit of water every hour. I watched every hour and gave him his medication and water right on the dot.

A day later when I went to give him some more water, he had died. I took ONLY him back to Petco and requested I get another because I know rats cannot be alone. My other rat I got with him is completely fine. The manager kept questioning me about my methods of caring, such as, "What do you feed him"... "what type of water do you give him"... "what do you clean his cage with" and told me I wasn't allowed to purchase anymore animals from this store. I haven't done anything wrong to have deserved this. The rats that are at this store are already sick and they blame the customers for the rats health conditions, when they're returned. This breaks my heart.

I do not want or think I should have to be interrogated when buying fish let alone 2 dollar disposable gold fish that usually don't live more than a few months anyway either because of age or quality of their fish. I ended up telling the sheriff I had a tank even though I didn't or my daughter wouldn't have been able to get fish even though we have purchased them in the past with no problems. This will be the last time I go there because I don't need to be questioned or told how many $2.00 fish I can buy for my daughter. From now on it will be a slight inconvenience to get fish from another pet store farther away but it’s worth not going through a 3rd degree.

As an avid animal lover and advocate, I will never recommend Petco to anyone particularly for grooming. I decided to try my local Petco in College Station, TX at 1901 Texas Ave, Suite C for grooming my 3 dogs. I have two Pekingese and a Shih Tzu. I elected to try them because I didn't have a good experience with a previous groomer at another location. When I arrived the two ladies whom I won't name asked me what length I wanted on the dogs while taking off their collars, harnesses, and leashes and took them into the back to crate them. I asked if they use the slip leashes because I once lost my Bella Pekingese the night I adopted her because she had a slip leash on and took off and went missing for 3 days. I was surprised that they wouldn't even keep their collars because they have tags with their names and address on them.

They told me that they probably wouldn't be ready for 5 hours and that they would call me. Well they didn't call me until just before they were going to close at 4 pm which isn't their normal hours. When I arrived, the dogs were brought out and I thought that they looked pretty good. However I noticed that my Shih Tzu had skin showing around his left eye and he was slightly closing it. I thought it was no biggie, that probably he was just very sensitive and I would watch him. Well over the next 2 days, he started to squint more and looked like he was in pain. The conjunctiva of the eye was red. He started to develop discharge from the eye. From previous experience with Shih Tzus I know, the signs of a corneal ulcer. They are extremely painful and can cause blindness in a dog if they aren't treated immediately.

I phoned my veterinarian 3 days after his grooming and explained the situation. Sure enough when they did the fluorescein eye stain, almost the entire outer layer, superficial layer of the cornea was ulcerated. Now a dog does not just get an ulcer out of the blue. Something has to precipitate it happening. My dog had nothing wrong with him when I brought him in for grooming 3 days ago. There is no doubt in my mind that he was nicked in the eye. They can start with an abrasion which can become ulcerated. This has caused undue stress and pain not only on my dog but on myself as well. My poor baby has been in awful pain today and hates his e-collar. He does not know how to lay down with it on. He has been standing/sitting now for about 3 hours.

I tried taking the collar off and he ran immediately to start rubbing his eyes so I had to put it back on. He just cries and looks at me with the collar on. I realize that accidents happen in this world just like with human patients; however when there is an incident with a true human patient, it is investigated. I wish I could post a video of him on here. I have cried all night. This has cost me additional expenses that I don't need. I have 5 pets already and I have multiple medical bills for myself. All I want is justice and to find out why it happened and I want them to see what they did to this baby. I'm not usually an angry person but there was no reason for this to happen.

My response was "I ain't going to buy anything if we cannot touch it". And he just walked away... More Three times. He's the manager name ** I think.. We went to petco in Bryan and customer service was amazing. We could touch and feel the animals. The Last time I went to the one in Waco. He said the same thing. I said "why not?" He said they can be aggressive and I couldn't hold the hamsters. I told him I own four hamsters and they ain't aggressive unless you don't feed them, take care of them, hold them so they know that you love them... He walked away... Very poor customers service. That manager should be fired. If you go there be prepared to experience the same thing I have. The hamsters been there over 5 months and no customers ever buys them.

I took my two small dogs to be bathed and clipped yesterday and was told they would be ready in 3-4 hours. This was accurate as they called within that time frame. When I got my bill, one price was higher than the quoted price. When I questioned it, the groomer said it was because the fur was matted, which it was in a couple of places. I just wanted everything shaved off; no fancy cuts. I tipped $20; (the bill was $104). When I handed it to the person at the counter, she took it without any "thank you" or any other acknowledgement. When I got home, I had to trim some of the places they had missed, and one of the dogs had raw places on her neck where she had been shaved too close. I would not go back to them as they rendered bad customer service and poor workmanship.

The guy who help us put all 40 in just one bag with just a litter bit of water, also he grabbed all them at the same time and counted them like pills on a pharmacy. The travel time from petco to my house was 20 min. When we arrived we had 25 alive - the other 15 were dead just because they had no oxygen. Why?? Were they saving bags?? Or did they not care about nothing there. Also the service was terrible. He put the fishes in a bag and handed to me, turn his back and leave us without asking if I needed something else. I called him again and when he came back took care of another 2 customer before me even when I was waiting for him more than 15 min.

Today was my first and last visit to PETCO for me. They are the worse pet store around. I gave them 1 star because I have no way to continue writing without selecting a number because for me they deserve just to close the store and find another business because customer service and pet care are two things they have no idea how to work with.

She then put medicine on, but why not do that first off? Then asked if she could brush him again, because I slid my hand down his coat, and my hand was full of hair. She then replied, "Well, short hair dogs shed." Yes, I'm aware they shed. Horrible experience. Did not receive a bandanna which I was supposed to receive with the $22 I paid. As a loyal customer of yours for many years I was discouraged to find out what happened when I walked into your Petco store number 2776, location Wareham Crossing, 2421 Cranberry Hwy, Wareham, MA 02571. I went inside the Wareham Crossing Petco on 03/24/15 to look at fish, I noticed that the koi fish was sick, by the way it was trying to swim and I could see how it was having a difficult time breathing. Also the little fish next to it was having a hard time as well.

As I was looking around at other fish and as well as the turtles I went back to the Koi fish and it has passed away as well as the little fish next to it in the other tank. I was also talking to another customer about fish as well as the Koi fish and how I just advised him it had passed just when I was there. A employee came over to us as I called them over and advised them that the Koi fish just passed away within minutes as well as the other small fish next to it. They continued to tell me and this other customer about how Petco filtrates the water with some kind of copper or ingredient. Then how Petco noticed it was affecting the fish a while ago so Petco did away with it. Now Petco has this filtration issue again, by using the same copper or some ingredient within the water.

The other customer advised the employee and educated them how Koi fish need to live in a larger tank with a lot of oxygen. The employee said that that whole tank system is going down and fish are dying all the time, but the District Manager won't listen to them. It is sad to know that Petco is doing this to God's animals and how the fish are suffocating to death. Please look into this filtration issue once again, as God's animals are beauty and everything has a life. If your fish die, how can then you make a profit from them? Petco is losing money in this process. And the fish don't deserve to die.

The fish still kept dying, so I googled tanks and found out the "rock" they sold me for the tank was sandstone, which is deadly for fish. So sandstone was taken out and the tank water stabilized. Petco sold me more fish. This time, the fish they sold me had "ich" a parasite. It killed, not only all those fish, but my children's other fish in the tank. Every fish DEAD. Petco took no responsibility. Customer service stinks. Now I have an empty fish tank infected with ICH water and have wasted over $250.00 on this gift my kids gave me. PETCO sucks! I went in Monday 3/16/15 and was wanting to get some mealworms. So I went over to the reptiles and I found fruit flies and super worms. My lizards are too small for super worms but I decided to have a look. In a container of 50, literally only a few were alive. And I checked other containers cause I thought maybe it was just that one but no... it was every single damn one. And yes, I’ll be mad if the bugs are not taken care of because my animals are going to eat them. So I asked a person where they keep their mealworms. (Also bad customer service) they pointed across the room and said over there. Like ok? Don't show me? And so I went across the store and was looking and I couldn't find any. And then I saw a small fridge. Opens it and it was waaaaaayy too cold for feeder bugs. Found the mealworms and looked through some containers. Still was way disappointed. Got 500 but literally seemed like there was less than 300.

Got them home and when they were fully thawed out, I feed them and they weren’t on a shedding rampage. And half of them were dead at that point cause of how cold they were kept. The Petco I went to does not feed their feeder bugs so most of them die and kept at too cold of temperature. My mealworms were also supposed to be large, they were small and medium. I called to tell them about it but I couldn't get past them saying "just bring them back" cause I was telling them almost half of them died the day I brought them home. They would not listen to me... I just think for now on Petco should hire people that know their stuff and know how to fix problems, see problems and know how to fix them. They also should know how to talk to people. Just makes me sad. The Petco I was in is the Petco in Visalia California.

I purchased this bedding and my hamster from them 3 weeks ago. My hamster died today, I returned to Petco and I was told it most likely died from the shavings I used. It can kill the hamster because the dust can suffocate them. Their online product description states that it is "Dust-free to protect delicate respiratory systems". There is a footnote on the bag that in the state of California this dust causes cancer. Whether or not it is what killed it, this product is unsafe for some small animals. And not labeled correctly.

During the week that I had him, I noticed that the parrot was sleepy most of the day, so I followed Petco's sick animal policy and brought my bird back to the store for vet care. I wanted what was best for the bird and bonded with him greatly so when told I had to return the bird in order to have the bird checked by the vet, I was apprehensive to return him. I just wanted Petco to treat my bird not completely take away my ownership rights to the animal by doing so. I was not allowed to be involved in the bird's care.

I couldn't talk to the vet and ask any questions. Because of this policy, my parrot is dead. The vet wasn't able to diagnosis the bird properly and just pumped the bird with antibiotics that he didn't respond to. I am convinced after doing some research that he died of a fungal infection in the lungs and it is poor judgement for a major company like Petco to cut out the caring owner from a sick animal. Petco doesn't care about the animal’s well-being. They only care about the money. If they did care about the animal they would let the owner be there for their animal.

Then I went over by the fish and I couldn't even get that far, I seen a 30 or 40 gal tank and it had to had at least 5,000 or more goldfish in it, they might be feeder fish but they need room too! And their angel fish didn't have any room to move. I went by the reptiles and the thing that caught my attention was the sweet baby ball python, I walked up to him and he came out of his cave thing and I almost started crying, he had so much stuck shed and there was bright red paint all over him! Why would you put paint on a snake? And the poor ball python was so skinny!

Then I continued with the reptiles and I seen the frogs and day gecko set up and their habitat were less than a 5 gal tank, the poor things were on the viewing glass cause they're trying to get out! And omg! The baby chameleons had stuck shed all over them and they were very skinny too, then I seen the birds and there was like 50-100 of them in a small setup "Smh". The birds looked healthy but they had no room to fly and they all looked so sad! I went over to the cats and I felt very bad for them, there is no way you can pet them cause they were behind a glass case.

I wish there was a way I could volunteer there so I can just play with all the animals, they need some socialization. I'm 15 and will be 16 this year, it hurts me knowing that I have to be 18 to work there. There's lots of kids around 10-17 that wish to help animals one day but then find out that they have to wait till they're like 18-20 and by the time they do hit 18-20 they will have other interest instead of helping animals. I have patience to wait till I'm 18 cause I've been waiting since I was 6 to help animals. While I'm still young I'm going to do all that I can to help animals.

Yesterday when I took him in, I explained in detail what I needed done including nails, "bum" area trimmed and the expression. I didn't care how much it cost because it was vital that his nails be cut. I also explained to them that he has been traumatized with his feet due to past experiences and that it would required a professional. They said no problem. When I picked him up, the manager was very rude and told me that my dog was unruly and needed training. She said that he would not cooperate and that they could not trim his nails. She also said that every time they tried he would pee on himself and they had to re-bathe him.

My question to her, is why then wouldn't you trim the nails first THEN bathe him knowing that. By the way I did tell them when I dropped him off that he is STILL a nervous pee'er. I ended up having to take him to the VET and pay additional money to have his nails done and while there they indicated that he had been cut and was bleeding. They also did NOT trim his "bum" area, so all they did was to wash him. I had to brush him when I got home because he was full of hair. When I went to go pay they tried to charge me an additional $6.00 for special handling. Special Handling????? They didn't even complete the job, I should have been getting a discount NOT additional charges!!! My dog was completely traumatized at this groomer and will NEVER go back!

I placed a recurring order on 2/3/15, and the system asked when I wanted the order to ship. Since 2/3 was an available date to select, and I wanted to get it before heading out of town, I selected 2/3. I received an email on 2/4 stating my order was being processed and would go out shortly. Since 2/3 was an available ship date, I thought the shipment would go out on 2/4. When I did not receive notice of the shipment, I went online to check the order status. The website is confusing, as well as misleading. I finally opened a chat session, and asked the person about the status of the order. Her response was that the order would be received 3 to 6 business days after shipment. My reply was that I was not questioning when I would receive it after shipment, rather I was trying to find out when it was shipped. Again, her response was that they had 3 to 6 business days.

So I tried a different tactic. I asked why the order had not shipped on 2/3 based on the date their website allowed me to request. Her response was that they do not accept expedited orders. I told her that I didn't request an expedited order, I just chose a date based on the available dates provided by their system. I was finally able to determine that though their site allows you to request a date for your next shipment to occur, this is not actually the date the shipment will occur; rather this is the date that they will start processing your order. So in essence, if a ship date is selected on their website, it is not a ship date. It is a date that the order will start processing. In addition, from the response the customer service person gave me, it seems that the 3 to 6 business days that the website states is for shipping is actually the amount of time they have to process the order.

So I tried one final time. I said that the system shows that my next ship date is scheduled for 2/24. I asked if this is the date that the order will physically leave the warehouse. The response was no, that this is when the order would begin processing. And then I received the canned 3 - 6 business days for shipping. The order did go out yesterday evening finally. I did also try to find out the point of origin of the shipment so that I could at least get a better idea of when I would receive the order based on the shipping location. Her response? The point of origin is 2/5/2015.

I'm done. If they cannot provide customer service people that I am able to have a reasonable conversation with, then they do not want my business. Granted, i am only one person. However, if I am having the issue, so are others. And based on other reviews I have read on this site, I am not the only one with these issues. If the person doesn't speak English, then how are they going to be able to work with people in a country where more than half the population have English as their primary language?

I will be cancelling my recurring order and finding another company who actually cares about their customers, as well as providing correct information on their website for ordering, processing, and shipping.

After seeing this my puppy and I will do our own haircuts. The groomers need to be fired and find a job they enjoy. Owners watch your pet being groomed so they won't be abused!

Petco has been selling assorted plants labeled as aquatic or not labeled at all, sitting in a water tank with filters. It is to my knowledge that any plants sitting in these tanks should be aquatic. I had recently purchased a potted assortment with 4 plants inside for $6.99, another potted plant for $4.99 and put them in my aquariums. The large assortment had a label with the names of the possible plants in the pot.

After a few days I was just curious to see what they were. I have found out they were all houseplants. I also looked up the toxicity of these plants which were known to be toxic to animals or even humans especially if ingested. Any fish lover out there knows there are a lot of fish who nibble on plants. I returned all the plants I purchased and got a full refund and was offered to keep them which I declined because we have cats and a dog all who like to chew on everything.

Even though the store didn't hassle me for the return I find it offensive and unethical that Petco is selling houseplants, and labeling them as aquatic that are/can be toxic to animals and humans. After I told the lady I wanted my cup back she said she'd be right back she's putting them back in aquatic. I find the lack of diligence pathetic. These plants should not be placed with animals. They are not the plants that you can transfer to an aquarium and grow them submersed. These plants don't even belong in a pet store.

When I asked what he had done he said he is putting an antibiotic cream on her and I asked why he said he got too close to the paw. The dog was crying I told him to stop and he wouldn't. I didn't think much of it but started to wonder where my order was on the 9th so I called customer service and spoke to someone who told me my order never went through, must've been something I did wrong so I placed the order with her. I even said to this woman, "Now, I'm not going to get a double order right?" to which she replied, "No because we never received the first." I did end up receiving two orders and all together got charged a little over $97 in 5 different increments from my account. I called customer service again, understandably angry, and wanted to talk to a manager. He was rude and it was very obvious he did not care.

Today I looked in my account and $38.68 was returned. I'm still owed about $26 which isn't much but it is a big deal considering my total from the first order was only supposed to be about $32. I will never again place an order with this company! Very bad handling of orders and customer's money. The customer service people can barely speak English and are very rude.

I purchased Petco's ear cleaning solution (Petco Ear Cleansing Liquid for Dogs) under the impression that I would be able to return it, should the item not work. After applying it on my Cocker Spaniel puppy's ears for a week, the item made her condition worse, as it left her ears scabby and oily. I figured I would return the product given it is labeled "100% Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed."

The store associate refused to honor the return (without a receipt) because the product is deemed a "medication." I'm not the type of person who keeps receipts lying around because I generally do not return stuff. I offered the associate my credit card, as I'm sure they have a way to pull up the purchase in the system, which they conveniently said they do not. I was finally advised to contact headquarters.

Headquarters got back to me today, and pretty much told me the same thing. My concern is the ear cleaner has no active ingredients that would suggest it was a form of medication (Water, glycerin, malic acid, dimethicone copolyol, aloe vera, propylene glycol, witch hazel extract, salicylic acid, benzoic acid.). Overall, I believe Petco's return policy is misleading to consumers, and they've lost my business as a lifetime customer.

This product was a complete waste of money, and Petco should have just made an exception in this case, considering their product actually worsened my puppy's condition. This just goes to show Petco does not stand behind their products, and could care less about making the customer happy.

My visit to PETCO to purchase feeder rats resulted in what amounts to nothing less than a coercive disclosure of personal information. I was required to not only sign a document, but include my phone number and address certifying humane treatment of animals. While humane treatment of animals at face value is an obviously noble cause, it is NOT the legal imperative to create policies requiring signed documents to verify this and this disclosure of information does NOT affect humane treatment of animals. It is already illegal to mistreat animals and the only reason a corporation would require signing a document like this is to extract consumer information by using the fear of possible incrimination as a crowbar. This practice is a more pernicious form of consumer data mining. If I don't have to sign a form certifying that I won't run over people in the PETCO parking lot, shouldn't have to sign this. For establishing itself as presumptuous and insulting, PETCO has lost a customer permanently.

I attempted to place an online order at Petco.com for a Kaytee ferret cage. It was already on sale, there was a promotion for $25 off $100 or more, free shipping at $75 and I had received a $20 gift card for signing up for their repeat delivery service. So when all is said and done I paid $69 out of pocket for this cage. Now firstly, I couldn't complete my order online. They were having some sort of technical problem, so I have to call their out country customer service. She was very nice but I'm a hurry to get me off the phone, so after 45 minutes of a frustrating language barrier, my order was successfully placed on Dec. 9th, after a few days my shipping label was created. Then 2 weeks go by, with no movement. I was understanding as it was Christmas and people are busy so I wrote an email asking about my order.

A few days later I receive an email stating: "According to UPS your package is in initiated status, which means a UPS shipping label has been created since Sunday, 12/14/2014 and it hasn't reached the UPS facility. We are currently monitoring the order and if the tracking status did not change, We can proceed to refund or replacement, if in case this happened, Would you want a refund or replacement?"

After another week of nothing I sent an email stating my displeasure of service. I was asked again if I wanted a refund and I said "absolutely not. I want my cage that I ordered 4 weeks ago." So a few days ago I receive an email of reorder, with no charge to me, fine. Today I receive another email. My product is on back order. Now, I checked the website and the cage is in stock online there. I had a family member call to verify this information. It is, indeed, in stock. I've been lied to, treated like an uneducated sucker and I'm very unhappy. I've been dealing with them for years and never complained about the rude employees at my local store, the high prices of items or the lack of care I see with their reptiles and groomers but I'm done. I recommend you choose a different pet store.

A lady with a thick foreign accent said that she would look into the matter and I should receive a shipment confirmation by the end of the day. I received an email from customer service with an inquiry number but not a shipment notification. I called again on 12/12/2014 and was told that they were trying to coordinate with the manufacturer and should hear something soon. I asked repeatedly if the beds will get to me by Christmas and never received an answer, just that I should hear something soon.

I asked for a supervisor who told me that I misunderstood my confirmation email. He said that the warehouse has 3-6 days to process the order, then 5-7 days to ship which totals to 13 business days. I do not believe him and that is not what my email says. I checked my order status today, 12/16/2014, and it says my shipment is not guaranteed by Christmas. I did a chat session with customer service who said the same thing I have heard on the phone - that I would receive a follow-up email in 24-48 hours letting me know when the beds will ship. I said that I need the beds by Christmas, so I will cancel my order and get my refund so I can shop elsewhere. The agent on the chat told me that it would take 5-7 business days to even process my refund. I don't know what to do to get these beds by Christmas, but I do know I will never order from Petco.com again.

I have been a faithful patron of my local Petco since their opening in Greenwood, South Carolina. We have three different animals we shop for, at least once a week. The store inserted a flyer in my shopping bag a few weeks ago advertising pet photos with Santa on Saturday, December 6 from 1pm-4pm. These photos were $9.95 and the proceeds would benefit local pet charities. I thought this would be a nice keepsake for our puppy's first Christmas and a good deed for our community all in one. We had planned on getting two of the photos.

We arrived at the store around 3pm on the day advertised to have an employee tell us that they have stopped photos an hour early because they were short staffed. I was completely livid and disappointed. Not only was this employee and another standing at the front of the store doing nothing, this includes not even greeting us as we entered, there were several other employees standing around. How could a store with five visible employees doing nothing be short staffed? If I hadn't been holding my fur-baby and not wanted him to feel the anger I had at the time, this employee would have remember me for the rest of his life after the tongue lashing he would have received. He should be thankful I have a little couth about myself.

After returning to our vehicle we decided to go across the street to PetSmart. Nothing was advertised for them doing Christmas Pictures but, we took the chance because we were already dressed. They were doing them with a winter and Santa backdrop all day. For free at that. We received the pictures that were taken, by a very nice employee, by email the same night. We were also still able make a donation to charity by purchasing a photo frame from PetSmart where a portion of the proceed would go to PetSmart charities.

From now on I will not step foot into or take part in any online ordering from Petco. I will only do my business at a PetSmart. If my local store happens to not have what I need in inventory I will travel an hour out of my way to the next nearest PetSmart before I cross the street to Petco. Petco should not take for granted that they have only lost one pet family. I will be telling everyone I know with pets about our experience and not to mention false advertising with Petco.

Long story short, years and years ago, my husband and I lost our Cat, Beautiful blue eyes, pure white, he was AMAZING! Ever since that, we had been on the lookout for a DLH Cat, with blue eyes. Well it just so happens, I was running into PETCO for some Fish for my lizard AND THERE WAS A KITTEN! Yay kitty!! So I asked to see her, she came to me and appeared to have kennel cough. The litter boxes hadn't been done for what smelled like days (something that is very common for cats who are locked up all day everyday with other cats) no big deal, she was BEAUTIFUL, So I asked if I could buy her, I was told I had to wait for them to find her paperwork. 15 minutes later, they said they were unable to find it because it wasn't in the normal spot.

So finally after 4 employees looking for it, they found it, OK COOL! So I started filling out the paperwork. Got about halfway done and a woman approached me, saying if I wanted to take her home, I'd need to purchase a kennel (cheapest one on the sales floor was $50.00, I never had this issue before, they would just give me a box and that would be good enough) so whatever, I blew it off not thinking much of it. Finally fill out all the pages I needed, go to pay and they said, "oh we only take cash, did nobody tell you?" So whatever, I walk down the street pull cash and come back. Well I get her home and I start really paying attention to her. She had goopy eyes, sneezing, crap stuck to her butt and tail and gross brown stuff all over her face..

SO I clean her up and she's not acting like a kitten, no jumping, no running, no having fun. Poor thing was so sick. This happened to be on a Sunday night and I can tell she's not ok. So I drove her to the Vet and she has a very serious upper respiratory infection skin and bones, super unhealthy and a temperature of 104. This vent visit including 2 weeks of antibiotics cost me 200 + dollars, not to mention the $75 I spent on her. So I got upset, I thought it was really evil. I go to a pet store and adopt a pet from an agency, called every creature counts, only to get a cat who had days to live, if it wasn't for me buying her and saving her life...

So I got pissed, I mean BEYOND PISSED. So I wrote in to Petco, explaining my frustration, why it's not ok I have a cat who is about to die and who has no meat on her bones whatsoever... I never once received a message saying how sorry they were, or ask anything about my kitten. So weeks go by and I still have yet to hear anything... So now I'm resorting to reach out and let others hear the crap I had to deal with, so they don't have to. I have to say, I use to love Petco, but honestly after this experience, they will never get my business again.

They look unhealthy, bored, condition. Their tails are a ratty from being picked at from boredom. They need love, an affection for some part of the day. Even at a pet store, someone needs to spend some time with them. They are very social birds. I feel so sorry for them and today I left the store crying. If I could take them home I would have, but I have 8 to divide my attention to, and they all need love and affection. These 2 are not getting any of it. I would even volunteer to go in everyday and socialize with these 2 just to give them a glimpse of what life outside their cage could be like with some love and affection. My heart is broken, and I can't stop thinking of these 2 all alone every night, with no one to love them or hold them, talk to them, play with them... etc.

I am at a loss, don't know what to do, but I can't stop until I know they have a new home together, and they are out of that horrible situation. Any help would be appreciated. We own 4 cockatiels, the oldest is 15, the two little conures Chloe (a pineapple) and Lola a Green Cheek. The 2 most loving birds we have ever had, the same these 2 could be and deserve to be, and 2 canaries. All fly around our house, everything is kept spotless and they love us as part of their family. Can someone please help me? I have submitted pictures of some of our bird family below. The way they should be to enjoy life with a human family. I only wish those 2 at Petco in Clermont could do the same someday, before they are found on the bottom of the cage and just tossed out with the trash.

I just start a fish pond and went to petco for some fish and supplies. Bought several fish and food, started my fish pond. The fish department person did say some would die in the first week. He did not tell me they sold me diseased fish. I went back because all my fish had white fuzz all over them. Petco told me that that batch of fish was bad, sorry no refund. I bought fish treatment and some fish (stupid me). They put all the Koi and fish in same bag and before I got home the Koi ate all the little fish. Again I went back to complain, again no refund just "we are sorry." DONT BUY FISH FROM PETCO.

I worked at Petco for less than 3 months and recently quit! The groomers called me a complainer and the Managers as well. Why? Because I did complain. Dirty water bowls, dirty kennels, Dirty floors, Equipment to shave the animals not disinfected! The dog baths were done so quickly that the dog is not really bathed properly! So that they can have a fast turn over of dogs to get high commissions! I believe this is a problem at most Petco grooming salons.

The store is not a busy store so they rely on the grooming area to make a fast turnover. Bottom line is more important than the quality of service! I have seen customers pay for services they did not get. The groomers are so busy they do not have the time to give quality! Beware taking your dog to Petco! They recently put items on sale that should have been thrown away, made in China treats that had sicken many dogs everywhere!

I was buying a small bag of Wellness dog food today. The price on the shelf was $22.99 at Petco, which is quite a bit more than I normally pay, but I was in a hurry and the store is close to my home. I got to the cash register, and with their "fee" because I'm not a rewards member (and never will be) the amount was $26.99 with taxes. Crazy. I went down the road a few miles and paid $17.90. Dog chews: same brand and quantity, $5.00 more at Petco!!! That's a HUGE difference. Petco, you should be ashamed! Imagine how much they are making in inflated prices. Why do folks shop there?

To summarize the past few months please see the attached email that I wrote to Petco in March. I have yet to receive a response from them. My mom has been writing back and forth to the insurance agent that Petco assigned and I feel that I'm just getting the run around. How does a $50 grooming bill turn into an almost $7,000 bill and my dog leaves with a bad haircut and his HIP DISLOCATED! It's alarming what one finds after doing research on PETCO

"I am the proud owner and mother of a 7 year-old Shih Tzu named Joey. I'm writing to you today because I am deeply saddened, shocked and outraged over my dog's poor treatment at your Petco Grooming Department located in Novato, California, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, and the negligence by one of your groomers and Petco's failure to report the incident to my mother (and I the owner). I'm writing to you today as the voice of Joey; and since he cannot talk, I will.

Who is Joey? Let me tell you all about him. Joey was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 2006. I fell in love with him the minute we first met, and I've been in love with him every day of his life ever since. He's a rare dog, one who wags his tail more often than not, and brings joy to the many people and animals he meets. My family, friends and neighbors all adore Joey because his heart is larger than life and because of his unconditional love for all, which in result, is infectious. The past 7 years of Joey's life have been nothing but happy, healthy, and full of love. Joey is my best-friend. The entire staff at our local Veterinary Hospital loves Joey (almost as much as I do) as he has been under their excellent care for the past 7 years for his yearly check-ups and immunizations. Joey has been in perfect health all his life, with an occasional ear infection here and there. For the past 7 years, Joey enjoyed long walks and loves running around the backyard at parent's house. Joey can't imagine life without physical activity as hes been an active dog his entire life.

On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, my mother dropped off Joey to be groomed at the Petco located in Novato, California. I asked my retired mother to take him to the appointment for me since I'm an elementary school teacher and couldn't leave in the middle of a school day to bring him. Joey has been groomed numerous times by this Petco Grooming Department and I have had no problem taking him there in the past. That was until his last grooming.

On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, my mom received a voice mail stating that Joey was done being groomed and could be picked up. There was no mention of any injury. When my mother arrived shortly after to pickup Joey, she was in utter shock when an employee handed Joey to her and stated, Joey's groomer is at lunch. As my mother put Joey down on the floor in that room, she quickly observed that Joey was not putting any weight on his back right paw, and she exclaimed, 'He can't walk! He can't walk!' The employee looked at my mother dumbfounded because she didn't groom Joey. She then proceeded to call the Assistant Manager on duty.

My mom said to the Assistant Manager, 'He can't walk.' The Assistant Manager pulled my mom out to another room to talk to her. He proceeded to tell my mother that 'Joey never cried and I've investigated and we don't know what happened." She stated that she brought in a healthy active dog who was running in circles when she left him off. And now he is unable to walk. My mom asked, 'I cant understand, what happened?' The Assistant Manager went into a back room to speak to Amanda. When Amanda came out of the back room, my mom asked Amanda what happened. Amanda stated, 'Nothing.' My mom stated, 'Something must have happened.' Amanda stated, 'Joey didn't want to stand up when I was grooming him. I had to pull his legs out.'

As Amanda was speaking, she attempted to demonstrate this as she was lifting Joey's dangling leg, while my mother intercepted and shouted for Amanda, 'Stop! That's already injured!' Amanda was attempting to manipulate the same leg that was visibly inured. My mom filed the incident with the Novato Petco Assistant Manager on duty that day. He claimed that he filed an incident report with the company. My mother told him that Joey needs to be seen by our Veterinarian immediately and the Assistant Manager wrote on paper that Petco will take care of the vet visit.

The rest of Tuesday, January 28, 2014, was filled with numerous emergency Veterinarian appointments, as this was no laughing matter. Although my mother is a Registered Nurse, when I arrived to meet my mom at Joey's appointment (that followed immediately after the injury at Petco), it was apparent to any visible eye that something traumatic had occurred during Joey's grooming at Petco as I witnessed and watched in horror Joey's right leg just dangling. He couldn't walk. He wouldn't wag his tail. I could see the pain in his eyes as he would barely look at me. I knew something went terribly wrong at Petco.

Our beloved Veterinarian at our local Veterinary Hospital referred us to a Pet Emergency Clinic where Joey had to be sedated and undergo a Closed Hip Reduction. The weeks that followed were heartbreaking as Joey had to be carried everywhere; he couldn't walk, and he was on strict closed cage restriction. Joey had to take medicine around the clock. None of us could predict the future. Joey's personality had completely disappeared. His energy was gone. All I kept thinking was, 'This can't be the same dog.' Words cannot describe how I felt during all of the countless hours I spent curled up next to Joey's cage, unable to pick him up, watching his heavy breathing from all of the medicine and all the while wondering how someone could do this to my dog. I cried next to and with Joey and prayed to God that Joey would heal.

Joey's Closed Hip Reduction was not successful, and our trusted Veterinarian referred Joey to a specialist. The Vet performed the FHO, Femoral Head Ostectomy. After examining Joey throughout his surgery and reviewing Joey's X-rays, Dr. stated Joey's traumatic injury had to be more than pulling the leg at the groomers. Joey showed no signs of arthritis and he said that his hip sockets looked fine. After Joey's FHO, Dr. was very explicit, when he stated that Joey had a traumatic injury at the groomers and he believes Joey fell off of the table. It's now been several weeks since the surgery, and Joey is still recovering from this painful ordeal and has not yet made a full recovery. Joey is not yet able to run and he needs to do physical therapy exercises daily so that the false joint can form. Joey wants to know, how can Petco allow this to happen? Joey put his love and his trust in Petco, and in the people that were supposed to take good care of him.

'Something extraordinary happens when pets and people connect. A unique bond is formed that results in something powerful, not only between pets and people, but in a way that makes the world a better place. Our promise is to nurture that relationship completely, mind and body (Petco website)'. Joey and I agree with this statement 100% because we have that bond and its an unbreakable promise.

'At Petco, we are committed to best helping pet parents give their pets the quality of life they deserve. This can only be achieved through the honest and ethical efforts of our associates. The Petco Code of Ethics serves as an important guide to inform all Petco associates of their moral, ethical and legal obligations (Petco Code of Ethics).' On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, your company and employers did not honor or follow the Petco Code of Ethics because of the negligence by one of your groomers and Petco's failure to report the incident to my mother (and I the owner). Joey and I put our trust in Petco. Joey thought he was just getting a haircut, and he wants to know, why did he leave with a haircut and a dislocated hip and the loss of many of his favorite activities?

Now, I've read aloud Petco's Code of Ethics to Joey several times and we realized that we have similar visions. A statement to Petco Associates reads, 'As we pursue our Vision Healthier Pets, Happier People, Better World, we foster a culture in which our behaviors are guided by seven core values: Integrity, Teamwork, Learning, Fun, Continuous Improvement, Recognition and Results. Integrity is first on the list for a reason: Taking the right actions and making good decisions are paramount for us to accomplish our goals (Petco Code of Ethics).' I share the same code of ethics! I have the same morals, and instill these values in my classroom. My students know to do the right thing even when nobody is watching, and to always tell the truth, even if it means you may get in trouble. Even seven-year-olds understand that there are consequences in school and in life for breaking the rules, being dishonest and hurting others. I teach my students that everyone makes mistakes (even teachers) and that nobody is perfect.

Quite frankly, I've had enough. I've had enough visits to Veterinarians the past few months, enough sleepless nights and tears shed because of Joey's injury at Petco Grooming; I've had enough. The bills for the care of Joey have mounted. Since Joey's grooming incident at Petco on January 28, 2014, the medical costs for Joey's care have totaled to $6,932.61. Joey would like to know how a $50.00 grooming fee ended up being a $6,932.61 fee?

'A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water logged stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?' John Grogan, Marley & Me

These past few months since Joey's injury, I've continually read this quote. Joey makes me feel extraordinary. He is my best-friend and I'm taking the stand for Joey because when he looks at me, and stares me in the eye, he trusts that I will remain loyal and true to him, through thick and thin, because I am the person my pet thinks I am, Petco. And if you are the company that loves and respects animals, and sticks to their Code of Ethics, than I trust you will do the right thing, live with integrity, and stand up with Joey.

I'm writing this to you as the voice of Joey; and since he cannot talk, I did and I will continue to. I want answers so that I can honestly look Joey in the eye and assure him that this had to have been a tragic accident at the Petco Grooming Department, tell him that it was not intentional and assure him that this will not ever happen again. We want to believe that Petco employees will not only preach the Code of Ethics, but to live by them every single day. Joey doesn't want other pets to go through the pain and suffering that he has, or the prospect of never fully recovering. The recovery road ahead for him is going to be long, and I know he may never ever be the same dog again, and run like he used to, but I'm blessed to be his owner, and I believe he's got many more wonderful years ahead of him.

Yes, Petco, at the end of the day, I can look proudly in the mirror and go to sleep at night feeling confident and assured that I am the person my pet thinks I am. The same values that I teach my students are the values that I live by, both inside and outside of my classroom. Joey believes Petco will do the right thing. It's heartbreaking to know that Petco, a company that claims to love animals, has not offered any sort of formal apology to Joey or I. I've documented this journey to Joey's recovery with pictures and videos, all beginning on January 28th, 2014 immediately after Joey's grooming incident at Petco in Novato, CA.

Joey wants to be reimbursed immediately for his Veterinarian bills. This incident has not only been an unexpected financial hardship caused by the traumatic injury while being groomed at Petco, but it's been emotionally draining and has required a tremendous amount of time and around the clock care from Joey's surgeries to his current rehabilitation. Joey does not want this to ever happen to other dogs. And he is no longer a loyal customer to Petco. Friends don't hurt each other."

I'm a former employee, and I didn't realize what a joke Petco really was. They rip off their customers, they don't do anything to try to make any of the pets safe, healthy, or anything they advertise to do. But the biggest issue I have with them is making me jump through hoop after hoop to get my employee information. Like my paystubs and W2. I was fired in February of this year and now it's March 23, 2014. Nothing. I have called HR about getting my W2s and they always tell me the same line. They don't listen to any of my questions or requests. I'm getting nowhere with this. Then I called my ex Petco employer, and spoke with my ex GM, as well as the assistant manager. They said there was nothing they could do for me.

Now, after working there for nearly three years, I know what they can do. Since this GM is a lazy, ** hack who hides away in his office for his whole shift, I know they've got to be lying. Now, I hadn't lived in the address they had on file since my first year working there back in 2011. They said it was the one they had on file and I understand that part of the issue. What I am not understanding is why they aren't being straight forward and actually helping me get my W2? Isn't it illegal for them to withhold it? It's nearing the deadline and I have never been late on a tax refund. The stress and anxiety are killing me, not to mention the need for the money, since I would like to go to the doctor soon.

On Jan. 14th we took our 9-year-old English Bulldog for a bath only. She had no health issues at the time we dropped her off. Within 35-40 minutes from drop off time, Petco called and said we needed to pick Bella up, as she was having trouble breathing. We arrived at Petco within 5 minutes & took straight to vet, where Bella could not be revived. The necropsy results say that her lungs collapsed due to a lack of oxygen! She suffocated. Petco has refused to allow me to see the employee statements describing what happened and say that same are confidential due to possible litigation. I simply want to know what happened to my dog in the short time she was in Petco's care. If it is something that could be prevented, then I would ask Petco to train their staff accordingly or do not accept breeds that they cannot care for... i.e., determining the signs of respiratory distress. I just feel that I have been lied to again and again then pawned off to the insurance carrier who is rude and horrible!!! I haven't made a claim. I just want answers.

My dog suffered a preventable disgusting death due to either the lack of knowledge of respiratory distress in bulldogs or simple negligence by being busy with too many other things. I have prayed and prayed. I hope the silver lining in this tragedy is that another bulldog does not die due to the inexperience or negligence of groomers. I miss my Bella everyday. Research your groomers! When you check the pet in, ask groomer to described signs of respiratory distress. Ask for the protocol for same. If the groomer can't give you the same answer your vet would, don't leave your dog!!

The poor guy had developed fin rot and I was willing to take him home just to nurse him back. However, the salesperson recommended against this. You know it's serious when the salesperson tells you not to buy the fish. My main issue with this place is that 90% of the fish were either sick or dying or had ick. Of course, I was told that the fish were sick because of water issues. C'mon Petco, get your stuff together because there is absolutely no excuse for you to make fish suffer (even if they are fish).

A female Russian tortoise at the Plover Wisconsin location had claws so long that they curled beneath her feet and made it difficult for her to walk. There was little substrate for her to dig (these are burrowing tortoises) and help wear the claws down, and everything in the tank, including the plastic floor which was mostly exposed, was too smooth to help her keep her claws in check. Usually, these don't need to be trimmed, but in cases where they are in a poor enclosure such as this, they do need care! I suggested to an employee that they put a piece of slate, a flat rock, or an overturned ceramic tile in the enclosure to help wear them down, and she told me she had to follow "PetCo pet care policy" and it's not allowed. I said I doubted they advised to neglect tortoises, either though.

She was kept in a tank with 3 males. It is recommended that one male be kept with three females so that mating activity can be spread about to prevent over-stressing and actual physical damage to the females. They had the REVERSE ratio. I could only see the feet of one male because they were all sleeping, but he also had over-long claws on a rear foot. It was not to the point of curling, but was very close to this length. When I alerted a sales person, she began to say that it had shell problems as well (It didn't - I have photos. Some of the male tortoises did have somewhat appeared to be older and healing - shell issues, but the female did not. Tortoises of this size in pet stores are WILD CAUGHT and shells often are damaged or suffer shell rot during transfer overseas. This female was probably at least 15 or 20 years old). The employee said she better get it out of there and take it to the vet. All it needed was its claws clipped. Furthermore, it was about 6:30 on a Saturday night - where did she put it until Monday??

Photos: Show rear feet of female tortoise. They have four toes/claws on each foot. While they usually have long claws, these are grossly too long. The front claws probably couldn't be considered neglect yet, but they are close. You can only see 2 claws on each rear foot because the innermost and outermost claws are curled beneath the foot. When she tried to walk, her feet did not touch the ground because of the curled claws. (They do not grow that fast! This tortoise took months and months to grow these claws!) She was also sliding all over the floor.

I went to the new store grand opening weekend in Paoli, PA. I went on Sunday, September 21 looking for a good quality wet store brand cat food. What I found was that the food contained starch and was 40 cents more than where I currently buy my food. While there I decided to look in on the kitty they offered up for adoption though a local agency. This kitty named Autumn was in an enclosed kitty condo. It had individual units or cubicles for food/water, living space, and litter space. She was in the living space with no access to food, water or litter as the adjoining sliding door was firmly closed.

I alerted the staff immediately. It is the response of the male employee that enraged me. I asked, "um, excuse me but the adopt a kitty has no access to food or water or her litter? Is this right?" The male answered, "I changed the cage and must have forgotten to open the door." Then he added, "She should be able to open it herself." What? He was not joking. This was said as if the cat was stupid. Really? I will not be using this store if they can't hire people who are animal people with common sense, not to mention a sense of how to respond to a customer.

I took my dogs to Petco to be groomed. Firstly, the groomer did not seem to have great knowledge of the specific cut required for a Maltese or a Poodle mix. She proceeded to tell me that the dogs were matted and needed to be completely shaved. I protested letting her know that I disagreed with her as the dogs were running around outside before we got there. The dogs are groomed every month and I am concerned as they have never been shaved that way before. She assured me that she would not trim low, yeah right!!

When I picked up the dogs, they seemed stressed and agitated. I assumed that was due to a different groomer only to find out a few days later that bows in dog ear (we think to hide laceration behind ear) put on too tightly resulted in emergency surgery ($900) and 75% of the dog ear had to be removed. The vet pulled pieces of rubber band from the wound. The worst thing is that they admitted liability at the beginning but when it came time to pay the bill, they started to give me the runaround!!!!

My dog was injured during a grooming session at Petco in St Lucie West. I called the store on 6/1 to advise of the incident. The district manager called on 6/1 and they told me that they would cover the medical expenses. I faxed copy of the vet estimate on 6/2 as surgery was scheduled for 6/3. At approximately 3 pm on 6/3, I called District Manager Brent ** as vet had not received any information. He then told me that he would call vet. To date, no arrangements have been made by Petco to settle the bill (surgery had to be completed on 6/4 due to the deteriorating condition of the dog's ear). After getting my Golden Retriever groomed on Monday, she was listless and feverish on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday, she was a little better, but would not allow us to touch her back. After going to the vet, we found that her back was covered in sores and scratches which the vet said were most likely from the groomer. The next day we went back to the location to discuss this with the groomer and get reimbursed for our grooming service and, preferably, the vet visit they caused. After talking to her groomer, Billie, she said it was not their fault because they did not trim her back, only washed.

The vet had explained that she probably had an allergic reaction to whatever shampoo they used. She immediately left us without a word and we waited for fifteen minutes until we were approached again by Billie and the store manager on duty. He began to state over exactly what she said and argue with our concerns. Because they did not trim her back and we "ok'ed" her by leaving the store that Monday, they did nothing to help. Needless to say, they will never get another dime from any of our family or friends. For such a large company that claims to care about pets so much, they could not even manage to give us a credit for our troubles. Ridiculous!

My daughter had a female rat that had 16 babies and she tried to give them homes. She would handle them daily so they could be adopted out as pets and not feeders. She had some she couldn't find homes for so she called the Petco in Naperville, Illinois to see if they had room for adoptions for pet rats. The manager told her she could bring in four of her male rats and a habitat and he would put them up for adoption and not sell them as feeders. They said they would call her and let her know when they were adopted out. A couple of weeks went by and she went into the Petco to see if they had been adopted and there they were in the glass tanks for sale along with her igloo. She asked the manager and she said, "Oh, they were just adopted last week. All 4 of them went to a family that adopted them." Liar, liar.

They were three black with white toned, and one white with cream capped. They were rare colors. I filed a complaint to Petco headquarters and the manager called me back within 5 minutes and said he would put his life on it that they were not her rats. Liar, liar. I said, "What kind of a coincidence that the rare color rats she gave you for adoption are the same color in the tank now for sale." He said he would never do that. **. He was just trying to save his ass from getting in trouble. They are not to be selling adoption animals. They are to be adopting them out. I asked to come in and see the adoption papers. He said to give him a few days and he can see if he could find the papers and contact the person that adopted them. I will never shop at Petco again. Please never take any animal and put it up for adoption at Petco.

I was walking around Petco when I looked and saw that one of the baby cornsnakes had this massive gash on its stomach and its back was broken. On top of that, worms were eating at its wound! I flipped out. One of the store employees told me that another employee had shut the cage on the snake and cut it almost in half but that it was still living (to my astonishment). She was all, "Oh yeah, those worms shouldn't be in the cage with it. That's not good." Not good?! What kind of neglect is this? I asked her if I could adopt him and nurse him back to health (I couldn't stand seeing him in those living conditions) and she said sure, for a $5 donation. It's illegal to make a customer pay for the adoption of an injured animal. I was so pissed I just gave her the $5 and took the poor cornsnake home and am now caring for him lovingly and trying to nurse him back. Never will I shop at that horrid place again!

Over the course of quite a few months, the Carbondale Petco in Illinois apparently suffers from a mix of incompetence and understaffing. First bad encounter I had were questions about a beardie and its habitat. I asked somebody for help and they directed me to their store manager, Lynn. The person who was apparently a random hire had no clue on how to handle anything, then gave me the runaround on answers and then answered her cell phone while talking to me. I asked for a corporate number and she said I'd have to find it myself then walked off.

I haven't been to Petco in a while since then; however they are one of the only places with a large selection of good dog food and I was running low. I went in on a Tuesday as it was one of my 2 days off from work and find that there was almost no dog food to be had. The store looked like it had been looted. I asked the cashier what was going on and they didn't have an answer, then proceeded to page a manager. After 5-10 minutes and a second page, no one came up to the register. The man apologized. I asked him if he knew how I could contact the corporate office because this was getting ridiculous, getting help at this store. He said he wasn't sure and that I'd have to talk to the assistant manager who would be there the next day.

I came in after work. The person at the register had a small line so I tried to find another associate. I found a girl cleaning up a mess of pet toys and asked her for the assistant manager. She replied that she was. I stated my issues and she heard me out and apologized for the problem. She mentioned the previous manager left the company so that issue for me had been resolved. I didn't have to call corporate; she helped me with what I wanted. She let me know who was most knowledgeable about certain topics and when they work. I asked her if the new store manager was any better. However, it seemed they haven't had one in awhile.

Overall, the store has been hit or miss. Breanna, assistant manager, Nate, the lizard guy, and Eric, the fish guy, as I know them have all been helpful but most of the other associates at this place have been almost terrible. They either don't care or just seem out of it. It is the reality of a corporate store in a small college town. You can't have real expectations from people. I'm not sure what their corporate office is doing but who knows? I'm still baffled on how a store runs without a store manager.

At lunch, I stopped by this Petco at 4030 N MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX to purchase one item for my pet. The sales associate did not know where the item I needed was located and the both of us were wandering all over the store trying to find it. I told her I did not have time to do so and she ran off to find someone to help me find my item. No one came. I searched on. More than 5 minutes passed and I went back up to the front of the store. Finally, we went back and found my item. I also bought a Manager's Special item which was supposed to $1.50. I was in such a hurry by then. When she rang it up, I did not notice it was for full price of $3.29. Once I left the store I did notice when I looked at my receipt and called to let them know they had overcharged me and that I would return in 45 minutes, at my inconvenience. The sales associate said she would check with the General Manager to see what they could do to make it up to me.

When I went back into the store, **, the "General Manager", walked up to me and asked if I had a return. I said, "No, I need a refund as you charged me too much." Instead of apologizing, he went into details about their point of sale system and how it sometimes charges the wrong price, etc. Then, when I told him it had also taken 10 minutes to find the one item I had come there for, he made excuses for the sales associate and told me that she had only been there a week. Again, there were no apologies, just a bunch of excuses. I told him that is no excuse and someone should still be able to address a customer to the items needed.

He then accused me of being rude. I told him I was not being rude and that I had not raised my voice nor said anything incorrect or wrong, just trying to give you feedback as a customer, you nincompoop. Okay, now I m may be being rude, lol. ** is an idiot because he wouldn't provide his last name to me, but on my receipt there is a number for Petco Customer Service - 888-824-7257. The ferrets in the cage were too old to eat anything like that, if that is what it was supposed to be. The litter box was totally full. They took it out and did not replace it. I guess they were supposed to go where they slept. I went to the saltwater fish, was going to buy one, but several of them were dead in different aquariums. I walked by the lizards and several had no water. The Water Dragons' dish had maybe a quarter inch where it should have been full as they half live in water. When we brought this ferret cage to the attention of the manager, I believe Pat, all she did was remove the litter box and did not replace it but did nothing to clean the rest of the cage. I used to shop at this Petco, notice that I said used to, because I won't anymore and I will inform all my friends not to shop there and to tell their friends.

I have shopped many times in the Petco in Wilkes-Barre, PA. There are frequently dead fish floating in tanks. I understand that fish die fairly easily, but they are not removed quickly. I saw one betta who was dead for so long that his water was turning the color of the fish. When I brought this to the attention of the store manager, he just blew me off and kept walking. Birds that can't fly are left in the cage. And more importantly, the anole lizards I have bought from Petco died pretty quickly - one within the day after I bought it. I didn't return it since the gas needed to travel there would have been about the same cost of the lizard. There is always something different to spot when going to this store. The employees are friendly, but it is frequently hard to find someone when you need help. I believe that the manager of this particular store is ill-equipped to run a store and should be replaced with someone more interested in doing the job he's hired to do.

I will start at the beginning on 4/16/12. I went into PETCO Poughkeepsie, NY next to Shop Rite to get a few fish to add to my tank, which was already established with some fish from another store. Those fish were in the tank for about two weeks and fine. So I go into PETCO and their "usual fish guy" called out sick. So I got a guy who was just, "tossed over here". I go ahead and buy five fishes for my tank. There were two other customers there who knew about fish and they also help me not get any "aggressive fish" that would eat my other fish. I get the five fish and get home and everything seems fine.

I look at my receipt because I always hold onto receipts. I was charged for six fishes. The sixth was an Oscar Tiger, the wrong fish. If you have anything smaller then this fish will eat anything that fits in its mouth. I wait one day because I couldn’t make it in the same day for the return. When I get up in the morning, one of the fish, the Opaline Gourami, is acting weird. Anyone who owns fish know when they are going to die, they swim funny kind of drift in the water, etc.

So I return the Opaline Gourami and tell them about the fish I was charged for that I never got, I get that return as well. Ok so here’s where the issues begin. Every two days after this, one of the fish I got from PETCO died. They test my water and the eater had a slight ammonia level, not enough to kill the fish according the "regular fish guy". This is what he told me every time I return a fish and I get my refund in cash. So three of the five fish I bought from PETCO were dead.

On 4/25/12, I wake up in the morning and the Bamboo Shrimp is dead at the bottom. I have no clue how long it was dead in there, I bring it in to return it and the same fish guy was there and some girl associate. He has the girl test my water while he go to other customers. She test my water with a PH strip then dumps it out and seconds later says my ammonia levels are too high and it killed the shrimp. So she calls a manager over who give me a long "spiel" about PH levels and don’t change my water, blah, blah. So I leave. Luckily, in my car, I had a water bottle full of the tank water and bring it to the "regular fish guy" to test. He test it from the second sample I bought in and said it hasn’t enough ammonia to kill the shrimp but they are very delicate and shouldn’t have been put in your tank in the first place. Remember how I said they had some random employee there who didn’t know jack about fish.

I also forgot to mention when I went to my car for the second water sample, I go back in and the girl that tested the water before saw me and ran off. So the same manager comes and gets different info from the fish guy then he agrees the return with nothing else said.

Finally, I go to the cash register with the receipt that was approve for the fish return and the associate up there said, “I can’t get cash back for the returned fish because it was a credit card.” I told her every time she said Credit Card, it was a Debit Card. I got cash back on the four other fish returns I did and didn’t know what the problem was this time. She calls for that same manager that said I couldn’t get a return for the fish. Then 5 minutes later said I can return it. I had to show her how to do a cash back return.

In conclusion, I will not be returning to PETCO anywhere. There is a pet store in the lot across the street by Bob’s and Ashley furniture I will be returning to, which somehow all the fish I got from there are all alive and well. On top of that, the light for the tank I bought is short and the stand is missing two cross beams it needs from the tank. They wouldn’t take it back so I can get at least 10% off on it. So of the things I bought from PETCO, 95% of them have had some issue; from dead fish, to getting money back to faulty parts and to missing parts in products. All I have to say is beware and save your receipts.

Extremely Poor Customer Service - The Petco store in Upland Square, Pottstown, PA have been short-staffed in their grooming department for months and are rarely open past 3. Fridays, they are usually there until 7 pm. On Friday, March 30, 2012, I called the store by phone to ensure that someone would be there to do nail clipping. I was told that they would be leaving at 5:30 that day. I arrived at the store between 5:15 and 5:20 and was greeted by ** who immediately asked me if I had proof of my dog’s rabies vaccination. I told her I had no idea that it was expired as he had it done in the fall of 2010 at their store and that it was a 2-year vaccine. She stated, "Do you have proof of his rabies vaccine? It expired in February." I told her had they been open on the numerous occasions that I had been in to have nails clipped, I would have known that they needed it and brought it with me. I told her to contact Gilbertsville Veterinary and that they have Francis's records. When they were contacted, the expiration is clearly noted as September 2012. His prior vaccination(s) were done at Petco and they were provided with the paperwork the day of his shots.

My dog was then taken back to have his nails clipped and I was handed the bill. I proceeded to the checkout where no one was at either register. I stood at the window next to the registers the entire time he was having his nails clipped. No one ever came to the registers. When he was done, I went to the grooming department and went to take my dog and to continue the shopping that I needed to do, which, had I done it in store, would have totaled over $100. At this time, ** refused to give my dog back to me. I was told that she would not return him until the grooming/nail trim was paid for. I told her I had additional shopping to do and that there was no one at the register. I would pay for everything at once as I have done every other time I have gotten his nails trimmed. Again, she refused to return my dog to me and was very snippy and rude. Someone finally came to the register and I paid the $10 nail trim fee and told the person that I wanted to speak to a manager.

I stood and waited a few minutes and no one came out to speak to me. I finally walked over to the office and spoke with a subject by the name of ** who I explained everything to. I told him that I wanted the manager of the store to contact me and that I wanted the 800 number for Petco. I was told there is no 800 number for Petco. I then asked for their corporate number so that I could file a complaint. I was given a phone number and again he told me that they have no toll free number.

Upon exiting the store, ** was sitting in her chair at the grooming check-in. I stopped and told her that I have never in my life been treated in such a manner and that I was not happy at all with the customer service or lack thereof. She rolled her eyes and told me that they are short-staffed and she was sorry that they weren't open longer for my convenience. I told her that they've been short-handed for months now and that wasn't my issue on that particular day. My issue was that they held my dog hostage until I paid a $10 bill for nail clipping when I had a lot of other shopping to do in the store. She continued to have an attitude with me and stated that it is their policy to have it paid upfront. I told her I was fine with that; however, no one was at the register while the nails were getting done and that I had other shopping to do in the store. I told her that I would pay for everything together as I have done numerous times in the past. And again, she rolled her eyes and said that they don't do it that way.

She was extremely rude and totally out of line. The store manager called me the next morning and I discussed the ordeal with her. She stated that she viewed and listened to the tapes for that date/time and agreed that it was a bad situation all the way around. I will never set foot in that store again. I have been a customer in that store since it opened and have spent a lot of money there on both of my pets. Both myself and my dog were treated very poorly and I feel this is totally unacceptable. The manager offered nothing as a solution or remedy for what I was put through. She stated that she spoke with **, but there was nothing else she could do about the situation. I left that store that day visibly upset. I was so upset that I was actually shaking when I left there. I drove over 5 miles to Pet Value where I purchased my pet food/supplies. Petco has lost a valuable customer. I will never set foot in the Pottstown store again and I am extremely upset and dissatisfied with the treatment that I received.

Now, I am really upset! We are paying a "point of sale" price and paying sales tax on the regular price. They are being reimbursed by manufacturers but not reimbursing us our tax. This does seem like an "intention to develop a practice that would be unfair to patrons." Why on earth would I go somewhere so I can pay extra tax and not know if Petco is lying and pocketing the money? I'm done with them.

I needed a new litter box and wanted the Scoopfree Ultra Automatic Self-cleaning litter box. I found it on Petco.com for a good price. According to their website, it 'usually ships the next day.' There was no mention of it not being available. I placed my order and received my confirmation email. The next day, however, I received an email stating that it was backordered. I logged on to the website to see if I could find out how long the delay might be. There was nothing listed and the live chat was listed as unavailable. Using a different browser and without logging in, I went to the Petco website and searched for the litter box again. It was still listed as shipping the next day. This time a live chat box popped up inviting me to chat with a representative. I did and asked if this litter box were available. I was told it was.

To double check, I repeated my question, this time clarifying what I wanted to know by asking if it were available and ready to ship. Again, I was told it was. So, now I asked why I was told that my order was backordered? This time I was told that only after ordering do you find out if an item is backordered. Evidently, they do not update their website. The agent I spoke with blamed their vendors but obviously if they knew that my item was backordered, then Petco knew enough to adjust their website. I was told that ordered not filled within 10-20 days are automatically cancelled. This doesn't help when you want something right away. Had their website been honest about product availability, I would not have ordered from them. My advice to others, never trust Petco.com.

The Petco Store in Sterling VA keeps their conures in very small cages. One of the sun conures has been there for a very long time. Sun conures' feathers are greener when they are less then a year, and turns yellow as they get older. The sun conure at this store is very yellow, and at least a year old. I wish Petco would keep the conures in larger cages. Conures are intelligent creatures, and its so sad to see it kept in a tiny plastic cage, with only one perch, no chew toys, no access to a bath, and no fruit. I observed one conure trying to claw out of the cage, and slam in to the other side of the cage, which is so sad!

Petco is overcharging. $599.00 for a 1 year old sun conure, and you can buy baby sun conures at the American Bird Company in Falls Church, VA for $400.00. Why does Petco treat birds like merchandise, and not care if the birds are neurotic from being kept in a very tiny cage? I own two suns, and I've never trimmed their wings. They never had any injuries, and my birds love flying around my home. I've contacted Petco and expressed my concern, but the manager becomes combative.

The problems I have had with 1 order are ridiculous! I placed an order to get 1 particular item. I added a few other things. Next day I was emailed that the main item I wanted would not be able to be supplied, so I wanted to cancel the whole order. I was told I had to wait for a tracking number to be generated. It did not make sense to me. Then, I got an email saying the part of order has been shipped, the 3 dollar item I added to get free shipping. Next day I was informed that the 2 other items were on backorder. I called and asked how long would a backorder take. I was told 3 weeks or so. I said that was too long and asked if they could please cancel those items.

I waited on phone for 15 minutes and was told they had been cancelled. 12 hours later I got an email about the next shipment of the backordered items. I called back and was told nothing could be done. But they said I could return them to the local store. But since I used PayPal, I could only get a store credit. Needless to say, I am not in the mood to shop in your store right now. The whole experience with your store has been the worst I have ever had with an online store, four phones with an average hold time of 10-15 minutes. And I absolutely got no help at all. I will do my best to stop anyone I know from doing business with your store.

I am a regular customer at store 1110 in La Mesa, CA. It's the closest Petco to my house. Every time I go in, the store manager, I believe her name is ''Debby'', is always more than rude, not just to me. On Tuesday when I was in the grooming salon, she was being completely mean and inappropriate to one of the workers there. She was screaming at him in front of customers. It was so unprofessional, and I felt so bad for this young man. When she noticed I was standing there, she said, ''Mind your own business. I'm having a bad day.'' She then walked away. I asked the groomer what the big deal was. He replied, ''She's always like that. It's like prison here.''

I don't think this behavior should be tolerated as representatives of your company. If she's like that to people, what would she do to my animals? I won't bring them in if I know she's working. I would feel so uncomfortable leaving them near her. In fact, if I am to entertain the idea of going back to this particular store, I would need to know first if she had been transferred or even better, terminated. How are those workers supposed to function properly in such a hostile work environment? It doesn't seem fair to subject them to such torture. I am not impressed, and I will not be silent about the things I witnessed. I will warn every one of my friends that shop there about this woman. The only reason I will go back until she's gone is to bring those nice, pleasant groomers some cookies or something nice for the upcoming holidays. However, the bowl was dirty and I figured it would be ok once it was cleaned. It was not; it had been used--it had scratches and spots that just would not come out.

I took it back to the same store that night and the manager Frank told me he would not exchange it again. He claimed it was taken from a box on the shelf. It could not have been taken from a box on the shelf, because the first one was not dirty like that. He then said, "Well if you have your receipt, you can return it." Little did he know that I have the receipt for the tank as well as the receipt for the decorations I had bought for the tank. I plan on returning everything today. I am an employee of PetCo. I am shocked and horrified that these terrible stories are on consumer affairs! I am a dog and cat groomer at one of the PetCos in New Mexico. I worked closely with the store associates and we care for every animal that comes in! It makes no difference whether the animal in question are crickets, fish, reptiles, mice, birds, exotics, etc. If one of the ferrets are coughing, we take it to the vet, after we check, to make sure it is the only one coughing. We have had to take in a whole kennel full of ferrets to be treated for coughs! We do not just let the animals in our care stay ill or perish. Our facilities are clean and our animal habitats are well-kept.

I have heard horror stories about pets in grooming salons as well. If an animal in the grooming salon is becoming too nervous or upset, we call the pet parent immediately and schedule for a second session to finish what the client has asked. Our dryers do not use heat. There are always two sources of water in each kennel as well as regulations regarding the number of dryers allowed on a kennel, restrictions on certain "short-snouted" breeds and species (cats), as well as the timers for the dryers.

The pets left in our care are constantly checked on and it amazes me that someone within our company made the mistake of somehow "cooking" a Lhasa Apso to death. I am utterly appalled and upset. We have customers coming into our store all the time now lecturing us about that poor woman and her deceased pet. It's heartbreaking but it's frustrating because it was not our store. It was a stupid mistake and I hope the employee responsible has paid for it.

This complaint concerns a Sumter, SC PETCO employee named Jackie (older white lady), who rudely ignored 3 black customers patiently waiting on her and immediately waited on a white customer (older white man with a young son) who arrived within the store approximately 15 minutes after I and two black customers waited for her service within the aquarium pet department. I was the first of the 3 black customers who arrived within the store this evening. I waited for about 2 minutes, then went to the service desk to ask the clerk to page someone to the aquarium department. As I was walking over to the desk, I saw the employee Jackie and another PETCO employee casually walking from the back area of the store. I asked them whether or not any one of them were working within the pet department this evening.

Jackie ignored me and kept walking. The younger store employee apologized for her behavior and informed me that it was Jackie, and that she would assist me after answering the telephone. I replied thank you to the younger employee and waited patiently by the service desk for Jackie to finish her telephone conversation. After about 5 minutes, she was off the telephone and walked over to the fluorescent aquarium lights; examined one of them; and then returned to the telephone. I still waited patiently for another 3 minutes while she finalized her telephone conversation. After Jackie hung up the telephone, I asked her whether she was ready to help me with my aquarium department request. As I was asking her this, an older white man (along with his young son) walked within the store carrying a dead fish within a bag.

Jackie rudely ignored me as if I nor the other 2 black people (a black man and a young black lady) wasn't standing there and immediately serviced the white guy. I then became very upset and loudly informed her that, "I know that you aren't going to ignore me and the other 2 black people that have been standing around patiently waiting for you or anyone's service for the past 15 minutes to serve someone that just walked through the door." Jackie then looked at me and rudely said, "He's just returning a dead fish." I then returned to the service desk and asked the clerk to speak with a manager or to issue me a store complaint form.

The store clerk handed me a blank sheet of paper informing me that I could write my name down and someone would contact me. I informed her that I would look up the company headquarters on the internet and issue a formal complaint, in which I am doing at the moment. Prior to this evening, I had been a loyal customer of PETCO and have spent on the average of approximately $200.00 monthly within the store in aquarium fish and supplies. This evening was not my first experience with Jackie, who I think is a closet racist. I have observed within the past year since I have started shopping at this location how she would act so rudely to black customers; barely attend to their questions; and would spend minutes in conversation with visiting white customers who would pretty much not purchase anything but would just window shop while the black customers like myself, who receive poor service, would make purchases in spite of Jackie's rude, racist behavior probably out of store convenience.

After my experience this evening, I will never ever shop or contribute my hard earned money to any PETCO location again! I work too hard to finance the salary of an obvious racist or someone that delivers poor customer service like Jackie!

On November 1, 2009, I purchased a bearded dragon and all the necessary supplies from the Petco at 2698 RT 22 East in Union, NJ. About four months after I bought my Bearded Dragon named Baby, he started to display some symptoms that concerned me. I noticed lumps forming on his legs and feet. I took him to my vet and he diagnosed Baby with Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD), a serious debilitating disease that can lead to death. I had never heard of this disease before as I am a first time Bearded Dragon owner. I started doing a lot of research of my own to educate myself more about the disease and treatments to help Baby get better. The number one thing I came across in my research is that MBD is greatly linked to the UVB lighting, more specifically improper or insufficient UVB will cause a Bearded Dragon to develop MBD, and a cure would be impossible without the correction of the ultraviolet lighting.

I went back to the Union Petco and spoke to ** (he is the associate that sold me Baby) and asked him if he knew what MBD was. He told me that it is related to the UV lighting. This is where I started to get really concerned because on the day I bought Baby, ** sold me the Zilla Deluxe Bearded Dragon Kit, which comes with the UV light. So I asked myself why I would be having problems with the UV light from a kit made specifically for Bearded Dragons. I did not want to buy the Zilla Bearded Dragon kit. I wanted to buy each item separately to save upfront costs. However, ** insisted that I buy this kit because it will save me money in the long run and that this kit has everything Baby needs for the rest of his life. I expressed to ** my concerns with the Bearded Dragon kit and the UV light. I told him that my vet diagnosed Baby with MBD and that I have been doing a lot of research on the disease. I told him that I found a lot of information about the type of set up for the UVB bulb that comes in the kit and that it is not sufficient enough for Bearded Dragons. He suggested that I contact Zilla.

I contacted Zilla and spoke to their lead tech about my situation and concerns in detail. But before I tell you about my conversations with Zilla, I want to conclude what happened with Baby. Baby got worse, his lumps started to enlarge, his appetite diminished, and he stopped growing. It got to the point where I had to feed Baby by hand everyday just to ensure that he would eat something. My efforts fell short and on May 7, 2010, Baby died. I took Baby back to my vet for an autopsy to determine his cause of death. My vet thoroughly examined him and took x-rays. His findings concluded that Baby passed away from Metabolic Bone Disease. Zilla's lead tech ensured me that their UVB light is strong enough and provides sufficient UVB for Bearded Dragons. I was frustrated because I still didn't understand how this could be especially when I know that improper UVB is the cause of MBD.

I went back to Petco and spoke with ** again. I told him that Baby had died and at this point, I was really upset and frustrated. ** referred me to one of his co-workers who he said is more knowledgeable with Bearded Dragons. I showed ** pictures of Baby's lumps and immediately ** Identified his symptoms as MBD. I asked ** what causes MBD and he told me that it’s related to the UVB lighting. So I showed ** the Zilla Deluxe Bearded Dragon kit that I bought for Baby and his response was that the kit has design flaws because the UVB bulb is placed inside a dome fixture which only concentrates the UV lighting on a specific area. He said that he doesn't advise customer to get the kit for the simple fact that the dome set up will not allow the Bearded Dragon to get sufficient UVB throughout the terrarium. He suggests going with a tube light that covers the whole length of the terrarium. I was extremely upset to hear this because if ** had explained that to me when I bought the kit, then I would not have bought it and I would have gotten the right type of lighting.

Being a first time Bearded Dragon owner, I would expect that when I walk into an establishment such as Petco that I will be properly informed on how to care for the animal I am buying and what is needed to ensure that animal's survival. The two associates realized how upset I was and once again, I was advised to contact Zilla. I contacted Zilla again with the new information that I had from Petco. In a nutshell, this is what they said. The lead tech at Zilla told me that large corporate pet companies have specific requirements as to what products they want in these kits. He further explained to me how the UVB light works with the dome set up. The Bearded Dragon kit puts the Dragon 8-12 away from the light source and at 8-12, the animal will receive anywhere from 50-75 microwatts (uw/cm2) of UVB. Bearded Dragons require around 13-30uw/cm2 for 10-14 hours per day.

It must also be taken into consideration that the locking screen on top of the terrarium will block 20-30% of the UVB, which means that the Dragon is actually receiving 35- 60uw/cm2 at 8-12 from the UVB light source. The UVB light source will cover about a 13 area or 1/3 of the 30 long tank. If the Bearded Dragon is at the other end of the terrarium basking under the heat source then the animal will receive 10% or less of the UVB, which means that only 3.5-6uw/cm2 is reaching the Dragon. The last fact to consider is the rate of depreciation of the UVB output. Zilla states that all UVB lights lose about 10-15% of their UV output in the first 3 months and at about the 8th to 10th month are down by about 40% and the amount of usable UVB will have dwindled to become virtually useless. The point is that this particular kit does not offer sufficient UVB throughout the terrarium for Bearded Dragons.

Baby spent most of his time under the heat source, as do most Bearded Dragons, where he never would have received enough UVB radiation from day one. There is diagram that I created which visually explains the UVB lighting output and pictures of Baby as the disease progressively worsened. I also have copies of the numerous correspondences I've had with Zilla as well as a letter from my vet and copies of the x-rays of Baby. I desperately needed to see this issue reach resolution so that Baby doesn't have to die in vain. I love animals and when I bought Baby, I was prepared to make a commitment for at least the next 10 years to care for him and experience the joys of owning a Bearded Dragon. I was deeply hurt when he died and utterly disgusted to learn of the design flaws within this kit. I would have preferred to see this issue resolved at the store level, but now I am taking further steps due to the fact that I have received an insufficient and unprofessional response from Petco.

I have been to the store numerous times to speak with the manager who refused to help me in anyway. I was given an email address for a man named Dan who I was told to email with my complaint. I emailed Dan several times only to have the emails bounce back to my inbox as failed to deliver. I again complained to Petco about it and they told me that Dan received my emails but they refused to give me a phone number for him. I emailed Dan again and asked him to respond and confirm that he received my emails. Dan responded and told me that he did in fact receive all of my emails. He stated that he was busy and in the process of relocating but that he would like to talk to me. I responded back and provided Dan with my contact information and the best times to reach me. I never heard from Dan again. I also tried submitting a complaint via the Petco website.

Shortly after that, I received a letter from Petco saying they would reimburse me for the cost of the kit. To this day, I have not received any money from Petco nor have been contacted by anyone. All of my emails to Dan and the Petco website came back as failed to deliver. After all my failed attempts, I decided to take Petco to court. My court date was November 9, 2010. Petco never showed to the court hearing so the Judge placed the case in default and ordered a judgment against Petco for the amount I was suing for.

Ultimately, I would like to see the Zilla Deluxe Bearded Dragon kit redesigned so that it is more efficient to sustain the life of a Bearded Dragon or have Petco implement a training program to properly educate their employees about the animals they sell so that they can give customers the right care instructions for the animals they are buying.

Some stuff arrived 4 days later, the rest 5 days. I sent two messages to ask for restitution (free shipping on a next order, something!) via their customer service section via the internet with no response. I won't buy from Petco again.

I'm Amy, a recent employee at PETCO. I have called numerous people in the corporate offices, pet hotline, BBB, PETA and even emailed 2 news channels. PETCO is still not doing anything about it. I am feeling helpless. These snakes (the ball pythons) are covered in mites and no one has done anything about it. I quit because my GM would not let me clean the reptile section. He said I had to stock dog toys or dog food instead of cleaning the snakes, which I offered to do. When I told him, "Well what about at PETCO, animals always come first?" Then he cut me off in mid-sentence and said, "Well if you don't like our policy, you can leave." So I quit right then and there.

I never quit a job before. I am not going to sit back while these poor snakes are dying. They are not fed properly either. Their cages never have been cleaned. The entire reptile section is infested with mites and no one cares but me. Maybe because a lot of people hate snakes. But they are beautiful creatures that are misunderstood. This makes me, being a huge snake lover, insanely mad. I am going to keep emailing and calling everyone I can about this. Please help them. Like I said, I will not stop until this is fixed.

When I recently went in to get my last check, the GM told me I overreacted and that no snakes had mites. That they were little black dots. Yeah, little black dots. He's obviously covering his own ** because other employees told me he knows I reported him. The store also smells horrible because no one wants to clean the ferret cage. Also, other employees told me they never cleaned the snakes so the GM lied to me. I hate PETCO. They should not be allowed to sell animals. They sell animals knowing those animals are sick.

This has to stop. A vet doesn't even come in there to check on the animals. They don't even call the vet when an animal is sick. The backroom, the "wellness" room, is fully stocked with sick and neglected animals. All they care about is dog food since dog food is 50% of their sales. Screw PETCO. Animals do not come first.

They have an area where you wait to have pet’s shots from the vets for cats and dogs. The smell in that store where you have to wait stinks so bad you'll throw up from the ferret's pins not being cleaned enough! I have been there four times and I asked them to clean it and they have twice! But this time, they would not. Not only myself but many others had sore throats because of it! I could not even eat for the day and when I got home, we could smell the nasty stink in our clothes!

This has to stop before someone dies! There are old people in there between 60 and 70 waiting for the good price and nice vet that cares so much for the pets that he gives shots for. Someone please, in the name of Jesus Christ, do something not only for the ferrets but us people there taken and making us sick as well! Please do something even if it's wrong. Nothing could hurt. God help us please! Will you just go check it yourself? You'll lose what you had for lunch! So help me and swear in the name of God to be true!

I couldn't stay in the building long enough to even find the item. My eyes were burning and I could breathe. I ran for the door. We have made a complaint to the company before and it doesn't seem to help. That store manager called the house and asked us what the problem was after making a full report to the company itself. The problem is getting worse each day and it doesn't look like it will ever get any better. There's got to be some kind of guideline these people should go by. It's obvious they don't have a floor crew to clean up at PETCO where the pets go!

PETCO's attitude is stick to their policy on no returns on saltwater fish. But darlings, this is your mess. I won't back down. The dead seahorse, I'm sure, was unhealthy to begin with or it would have lived. Same tank, same water, same acclimation process. PETCO, get real. The PETCO near my house also has a grooming service and I decided to try it out one day. I figured that since the entire grooming area could be seen through the glass wall and that the (young) groomers always seemed to be working, it would be a good place. Wrong! I dropped my German Shepherd and Beagle/Terrier mix off and was told to return in an hour. I ordered a full groom (bath, brush, shed X brush, nails, teeth, ears, the whole nine yards) for both of my dogs. I called 45 minutes later and was told that it would be another hour. They were running behind. I dropped my dogs off and there were four groomers and only two dogs being worked on. They said that my girls would be immediately worked on and it would take an hour for the groom. Does this mean they shoved them in a cage for an hour and took someone else's dog first?

I went to pick my dogs up and was told that my beagle/terrier mix's nails had been cut to the quick a couple of times, but they put quick stop on it and they were fine. She was acting weird, flinching away from me and had her tail between her legs the whole time. The German Shepherd was acting fine. I got them home and decided to go over them a little better to see what kind of job they did. My German Shepherd hadn't been washed at all. She still smelled like dirty dog and had dirt on her belly. I ran my hands through her hair and she shed in my hands. Her three nails that looked like they had been cut were split/crushed. The rest hadn't been touched. I realized that my beagle/terrier mix had gone under my bed in the time it took me to look at my other dog.

I finally coaxed my beagle/terrier mix out of hiding and was shocked at what I saw. Her nails had been split, cracked, crushed, whatever you want to call it. There were a couple that were cracked clear up to where the nail meets the paw. She was blowing like a horse, through her nose, really hard (severely stressed). She had obviously been bleeding and when she walked to me, it looked like it was painful to walk. I guess the short trek across the parking lot had undone some of the quick stop because one of her nails had been bleeding on my carpet. I immediately called the store and spoke with a manager. He wanted me to bring my dogs back in the store so he could see them before giving me a refund! I agreed to bring the German Shepherd as my little dog was shaking and I didn't think it would be best to force her to walk on her painful paws.

As a second though, I snapped a few pictures of her coat (not washed) and her horrible nail job on my phone, loaded up my German Shepherd and made the 5-mile drive across town back to the store. My dog and I went in and had to wait twenty minutes for the manager. When we were finally seen, he (a manager in his early twenties) didn't want to refund me for the dog I hadn't brought and told me that the one I had would just be rewashed. He seemed surprised when I brought out my phone and showed him the carnage that was my dog's nails. I also told him I was not only getting a full refund, but I was taking my dog to my vet and they were billing the store directly. I wanted it in writing right there that PETCO would pay for a vet visit about the nails for both dogs.

We went into the groomer's station and I pointed out the extremely dull clippers that were used on my dogs and the dry sinks. It was obvious from the dry, matted hair that no water had been run in hours in those sinks. Yet others had picked their dogs up before me. Hmm. When I started to take pictures right there for my lawsuit, he issued me a full refund. And what a coincidence, my vet suddenly happened to be PETCO-approved. I took both of them that day and explained (with a signed receipt) that they were to bill the Alton store directly. I don't know if he paid it out of his own pocket, petty cash or if the store took care of it, but I didn't receive a bill. My little dog is very vocal. I wonder what kind of person would keep cutting a shrieking dog's nails when she was obviously in pain?

Warning! Do not take your pets to PETCO in Harker Heights, TX for grooming services. I took my Great Pyrenees mix there to get groomed. Those of you who are familiar with the breed know they have very long (6-8 inch) curly hair. He used to love to be brushed. But after this encounter with the head groomer, if you approach him with a brush or even brush your own hair in his presence, he tries to bite. Not a simple nip, to draw blood. While on a visit to PETCO after the incident with the groomer, to buy other products, the head groomer walked toward him and he tried to bite her. He doesn't bite. He likes everyone.

Now in order to have him groomed for about $70.00 is costing me $176.00 because he has to be sedated. There lies another problem because he could die from sedation. During the short time he is sedated, he has to be shaved because it is nearly impossible to try to brush him out in a short hour. The loss of hair on his body also requires us to put sunblock on him and not let him out during the day because he could go blind. Of course, he no longer goes to PETCO and it would be wise for others not to use them either. God only knows what type of abuse your animals are going through.

We believe she hit him with the brush. Three of my friends who have used PETCO have had similar experiences with their animals and no longer use PETCO. The manager said he refuses to fire her because he has got no other complaints.

I have seen terrible animal care at this particular location. Upon today's visit to socialize with the animals, I saw three particularly unnerving sights. I am a leopard gecko lover and know quite well how an ill gecko looks and acts. I came across one emaciated individual, which appeared to have a cryptosporidium infestation, obvious from skinny tail and thin legs. When I went to complain, the associate pulled the tank out enabling me to see three more geckos in the same state; mixed in with another four healthy geckos. When I voiced my concern, I was informed that the suspect geckos were simply hatchlings and would gain weight. He told me that he would keep an eye on them, but did nothing more. The infestation is contagious and having lost a gecko to the infection before, I was worried for the other lizards' health.

I came upon a male canary, which appeared very sick. He had lost most of the down feathers on his wings and breast, and was sitting in a substantial pile of his own droppings. He appeared stressed from the way he was panting, beak wide open and one leg splayed off to the side. In my experience with birds, the lameness came from breast tumors, but I could not find any evidence that cancer was affecting this bird. Finally, the fish displayed at the front of the store were swimming in tanks coated in algae. The structure that held the tanks themselves had a substantial amount of algae-tinted water dried upon the sides. I'm quite concerned with the animals here and hope my email complaint to the PETCO store will be heard.

I am writing to make you aware of my experience at your store at 23 Danada Square E. Wheaton, IL 60187, specifically the grooming department on May 29, 2010. I had a scheduled appointment to have my Golden Retriever, Sand, groomed that day. At the time I scheduled the appointment, I told the scheduler that Sand was 12 years old, was afraid of dryers, and then I simply wanted her cut short for the summer weather. When I arrived for the grooming appointment, I spoke with the woman who said she would be taking care of my pet. I explained some of my concerns with her, specifically that I did not want Sand to be put in front of the blowers (dryer) and that I had already cleaned her ears and trimmed her nails.

In the middle of our conversation, another woman in the department very rudely interrupted our conversation. This woman stated that PETCO does not groom any dogs who are over age 10 and that they could not groom my dog. The two women got into a bit of an argument and the original woman who I was speaking with told me not to worry, she would groom my dog. This was very upsetting for me as anyone who has an animal they love can certainly understand. Sand was already nervous at being taken into the store and now people are arguing.

I sought out the store manager and relayed the incident to her. She assured me that she would speak with the groomer after my dog was groomed. So the groomer wasn't going to do something to my dog. I was told it would take about an hour to groom my dog, so I went to another store for an hour. When I returned, my dog had been shaved down to the skin. I was horrified! All in all, my experience with PETCO grooming department was traumatic for me and my pet. In my part, I am very disappointed and angry at myself to have chosen a cheaper place to groom my dog that at the end it was really more expensive in all levels.

I am not sure I am contacting the right people but I recently had a few issues with my local Petco and as a loyal customer and former employee, I thought you should know. I was in the store about two weeks ago and was shopping for some of my own pets when I passed through the aquatics section. I noticed several red-eared sliders crowded in their small tank. As a former employee, I cannot think of a single reason that could justify having that many turtles in that size tank. While observing the turtles, I noticed one of them had a very large cut on its neck and it was bleeding terribly. I immediately notified the manager on duty at the time (I cannot remember her name though). Since working at Petco, I have been working as a veterinary technician and knew that he needed to be treated.

The "manager" or "team leader" woman just walked over and took him out of the tank and into the reptile room. She rolled her eyes as I expressed concern as if I were inconveniencing her for notifying her about the poor injured turtle. She left me feeling very uneasy about his care as there was no apology for his injury, no thank you for letting her know and nothing said to me about how he would be taken for an exam. Then yesterday when I returned to Petco, I checked on the turtles again. The one that had been injured was put back in the tank with the large cut still visible and now another one had an injured leg! The second one has its toes on its back foot that were all cut and were bleeding! And yesterday, I think there were more turtles than the first time.

I was talking to my friend about the situation and when the closest employee that was working in that section appeared, he must have heard me talking because he just walked over and looked in the tank. When I started to explain to the young man that the another one was injured and the other one should not have been put back out with visible injuries, he just shrugged his shoulders, laughed a little bit and asked what I wanted him to do about it! I think he should have gotten the manager but he did nothing! I said to him, “Fine, I am going to buy the one with the injured neck!” I have a turtle tank and I didn’t have enough space for both injured turtles in my tank at home but I couldn’t leave him there again.

The employees and management obviously could care less about the animals well being and it just makes me sick! The aquatics employee just laughed some more and left to get me a box. When he returned, he boxed him up and just handed him over, it was just that easy. He didn’t offer a care sheet, talk to me about proper housing, lighting or even what to feed him! Thankfully, I already had everything I needed and know what they need but what about other customers?! What is happening to all of the pets being sold? Are customers being educated on the pets they want to purchase so they go to a safe and forever home that is not only right for the pet but also the owner? I do have to say at the registered checking out, the employee there did ask if I wanted a care sheet and had me sign off about salmonella.

Overall, Petco Bel Air has gone so far down hill I do not think I will be shopping there ever again! I will also be letting everyone I know about this experience so that they do not support this store. It is so sad, as a former employee that used to love working there and always thought everyone their really cared about the animals to now not even want to go in for my bird food! I hope that someone in corporate finds this information helpful and feels something should done to help Petco Bel Air become the clean, organized store it should be with employees that truly care about the animals and their well being.

The following is the letter I wrote to PETCO. They have not responded yet. They are a pretty uncaring business. If any investors read this, invest in PetSmart. They are awesome: My pets and I have been the victims of egregious treatment at the hands of PETCO customer service, PETCO Stonecrest, and even the operator. I can honestly say that except for one chain store, this is the worst I have ever been treated by a corporation. While you may represent pets, the people around you are not very pet- or people-friendly. I first noticed a problem when I went into the Stonecrest PETCO on Mall Pkwy. The staff would not help me. I did end up buying a goldfish when someone did help or a customer instructed the fish person to help me. I have not run into this salesperson again though.

In any event, the treatment was so bad I decided to make my major purchase of an aquarium from your Edgewood, Atlanta store where I ran into a pretty rude man but purchased anyway. I did go in on another day and I ran into a very friendly fish person whom my family really liked. One of our fish died and I had reason to return back to the Stonecrest store. I walked on with my PALS card and the manager informed me that without a receipt, I would not be able to get a refund on the fish. I asked about PALS and she said, "We don't use that anymore." I said, "Cool, I had a receipt." I went to the car to get it, but the rudeness continued. Though my fish was not there, I was never given the opportunity for a refund. He said he would write "come back later" on the receipt. I noticed a sign that said a refund was an option and still was going to buy one. But as I walked up to the counter, the manager (the one with the long hair) was so rude to me I just got a refund and left.

Now as I was watching my fish, the light on my aquarium went out. It just sputtered in my face and had a burning smell. The heater never seems to get the water warm though. I was just bearing with this because frankly, I'm not sure but I am. So I'm like looking on the internet for the receipt because I had such a nasty experience at my local PETCO. At this time of the month, because I am a regular person, I cannot afford to drive all the way to Atlanta to get my stuff replaced. I know Atlanta will replace it because it's not all white, but it's white enough. I know from my experience that only in black neighborhoods do people act rude and nasty, and chain stores refuse to return merchandise until regrettably they get a bad reputation and go out of business.

So in ten years or less if this behavior continues, no one will shop here and they will go out of business. Probably the whole mall will go out of business. In any event, I watched the light go out and I'm on the internet. My PALS number is not associated with anything because the salesperson just handed it to me, so I have waited until the morning and called customer service where I explained that I have had problems returning merchandise with PALS and wanted to make sure it was on there. She said it was, but told me to associate my contact information with my PALS number, which I did. She also told me to call the Lithonia PALS before I go, which I did. She told me where did I have the receipt. I said on the screen. She said, "Be ready to show it with the SKU number." I then logged onto PALS and there was nothing there.

I called back customer service and the same customer service started getting somewhat upset and would not give me information. She said she had to ask her supervisor. She did finally admit to seeing the transaction, but said it had no receipt information as to what I purchased, which seems ludicrous considering you give credit for pet food purchased and it has to be noted. I then became very agitated and finally ended the conversation, but told them I was going to call the president of the company. I called and the operator asked who I was and told me, "We can't just connect anyone to our corporate officers." I have called Gucci and gotten as far as the secretary. I have called Daimler Benz and got the department and the person I requested. However, PETCO offers no such courtesy and no concern for people or pets.

In any event, I left my number with the corporate office and have yet to be called back by anyone. I have concerns for the pets and know they need light. When I purchased close to $100.00 worth of merchandise for my $2.00 fish, I expected the equipment to work but it does not. I am having a very hard time getting customer satisfaction. There is a PetSmart in the next county. I sure wish I have clunked the money out to them. They are very nice and have better fish than Stonecrest.

Don't ever go to the PETCO in Coeur d' Alene! It sucks! The customer service was horrible! They were rude and oblivious of people needing help. The pets from this store are sick and extremely mean due to abuse. The animals act like they're scared and like you're going to hurt them. I got a hamster from that PETCO about 5 years ago and it was messed up big time. It was a baby. It bit through my finger to the bone. It also bit my family members whether they were feeding it or just petting it. Then my boyfriend and I went there to get two rats about 4 days ago. We asked for two males, got home and found out that the one that was supposed to be mine was a female. She bit my boyfriend and me.

Because I didn't want baby rats, we took her back. I didn't say anything about her biting because I didn't want them to poke at her like they did with my previous pet. I already got attached to her even though she was mean, so I was sad to give her back to people who are going to abuse her again. So never go to the PETCO in Coeur d' Alene! If you want to get a pet, go to the PETCO in Spokane Valley. If you don't know where it is, go on the freeway towards Spokane; get off on the Sullivan exit and take a left; go down until you hit Sprauge. It's on the left, right on the corner, but that's only if you're coming from Post Falls or Coeur d' Alene.

We went there just to see how the pets reacted when we held them. They were so sweet, didn't nibble, cuddled up to us and have wonderful personalities. They are comfortable in their new home and we love them. The customer service there was amazing. They actually knew what they were talking about, unlike the one in Cd'A. The one in Spokane was absolutely amazing. Great customer service, very helpful and kind people, clean animals and they weren't sick or mean. Please don't ever go to the one in Cd'A! Go to the one in Spokane Valley. You will be amazed! Just wanted to tell people about my experience and hopefully get more business for the Valley PETCO. Thank you for your time.

When I contacted their customer service department, the gentleman was very nice and told me that he would have another coupon sent. At that time he told me that there was another coupon that I was eligible for and that he would send that also. I received the lesser value coupon, but not the coupon for a free bag of dog food.
