Hartz Mountain Flea & Tick Drops Reviews

I had a female cat which died after using Hartz Flea treatment on her. The veterinarian said that there was nothing that could be done for her. Her allergic reaction was so severe that she could not breathe. The emotional toll on me was devastating. I felt it was my fault since she died because I applied the poison that took her life. I will never forget the incident or forgive the companies producing these poisons and selling them across the counter to unsuspecting consumers.

Per my vet, this product is toxic to dogs. We applied the liquid and a collar to my dog. He died 2 weeks later. He was lathargic, wouldn't eat or drink probably. He had the poops he couldn't control or his urine. Then he quit eating and drinking. Could barely walk. He died at home on 11/7/10 at approx. 4pm. We loved him. Very emotional, we had him for 10 years. He was part of our family.

I bought this product on my dog and he did 2 weeks later. My vet advised me this product is toxic to dogs. They are allergic to it. I didn't know this, she also said the FDA is trying to have it pulled from the market. The economic damage was minimal. However, the emotional damage is phenomenal. It tore my(our)heart(s) out to see my doggie die. We loved him, he was our family pet.

I decided to use Hartz Flea/Tick drops for the first time on my border collie, Dart, on Friday. I noticed he did not want to eat, became totally lethargic and was stumbling a bit when he stood up to walk. Yesterday ( the next day), he had a fever of 103.7. This morning fever was 104. I rushed him to the vet who did a complete blood work up. The vet called back and said Dart is having a severe reaction to the Hartz flea/tick oil. He gave Dart something to bring his fever down and told me to take him home, wash him in a good de-greasing dish washing liquid and we are hoping he starts to get better. I am praying that he does and I feel very heartsick and violated that this product is allowed to be on the shelves!

Sept. 4, 2010, I applied Hartz Flea Drops to my healthy 4 years old cat, Jazzcat (an Oriental chocolate-point Siamese for whom I paid $450). I used it according to the directions. Within a few minutes, she began to twitch and tremor. She ran madly around the house and did not want me touch her. I took her to the Cat Clinic in Mill Valley, CA where I learned that she was having a reaction to the chemicals in Hartz and that cats often go into fatal seizures after using it. They bathed Jazzcat twice to get rid of the toxins and she is now at home, calmer but still with some tremors of her ears, tail and feet. Obviously, this Hartz flea treatment can be deadly poison to cats.

Six years ago, I adopted a 2-year-old cat from the small animal shelter in Hillsboro, Oregon. When I was ready to take her home, I noticed she had fleas and let them know. Their reply was, “She is your cat now.” So I went straight to my local PetSmart and picked up Hartz drops. I read all the directions and used it as the label advised. Shortly after, my new kitty we had named Darby, started convulsing. We rushed her to the emergency vet who told us they had advised PetSmart on multiple occasions that this product was dangerous and sometimes lethal for cats (but could be used for dogs). Needless to say, I was shocked. I called PetSmart and they agreed to pay my vet bill (I believe it was $75). The vet washed my cat several times and monitored her. I believe that PetSmart was taking this as a serious matter.

I bought the small dog 3 pack Hartz flea drips, followed instructions and gave one treatment. Later that same day, 7-8 hours later, Lucky began to shake very bad, I thought maybe it was normal. The next day, he stopped eating, eyes were bloodshot, disoriented, shaking, unable to jump and dragging his back legs. I took him to the vet and he's on medication. If this happened to a baby product or hair product, the product would be removed. Why is it still being sold in the stores? My dog has a possible neurological damage due to the chemicals in the product. How many of our family members have to suffer before something is done?

I bought Hartz Ultra Guard Flea & Tick drops for dogs and puppies. I put it on all three of my dogs. The next morning one of my dogs was tensing up her back pushing out her neck and walking funny like she was drunk. Her muscles were tightening up and she was shaking. I brought her to the veterinarian and she told me that in Hartz products, there is a chemical in there that makes the dogs and cats have muscle spasms.

My cat Tiger attained fleas. I went to Walmart to get some flea drops. The only brand they had was Hartz. I applied a tube between Tiger's shoulder blades and he immediately became hysterical and started running around. Over the next few days, Tiger was still scratching all over (like crazy). The fleas were still present. He also became withdrawn and didn't want to play (which was out of his character). I decided to give him a warm bath. As I was drying him, I noticed through his wet fur that his skin around his shoulder blades was bright red, like a burn. His skin everywhere else was light pink. Those ** drops chemically burned my cat's skin. They didn't even (at least) kill off the fleas! I will never use Hertz, ever again!

Why is Hartz allowed to sell their flea products. It seems, including our dog, they have killed or caused Illnesses. What can I do? What legal action can I take? Which e-mail for the EPA can I contact? Hartz Flea is poison.

I purchased Hartz One Spot Flea and Tick med for cats and kittens. Within 48 hours upon applying this product to my 6-year old male bobtail cat Smokey, my cat was dead. This cat was in perfect health prior to applying product to him. All I was looking to do was kill off the fleas on my cat, not kill off my cat.

I put the product on my 1-year old cat (Hartz one spot). Within a few minutes, my usual calm loving animal became aggressive and irritated. I soon realized something was very wrong with her when she would not let me touch her, hissing and actually trying to bite me. I then realized I had poisoned my animal with this product. She proceeded to lose control of her bowels. I washed the product off but the damage was done. Going to the vet and $400 later, she still has some lasting affects. She has gotten a little better but is not the affectionate cat I once had! Shame on your Hartz for continuing to poison our animals!

I treated my lab puppy with Hartz flea tick medicine and he instantly had "anxiety" type attack--panting, could not sit still, lay down, started spinning circles and shaking violently. We washed it off of him. A couple of months later, I tried a different brand because we found a tick on him. I applied Frontline and he had the same reaction. We again washed it off of him. He has been through blood tests, treated with antibiotics, etc., but still suffers from some sort of neurological damage from one treatment of this product. My year-old lab continues to have neurological problems after being treated with Hartz. The cost has been not only economically, but absolutely heartbreaking to see him have these recurring problems.

We applied Hartz Ultraguard One Spot Treatment for Cats and Kittens with 2.9% Methoprene 5 days ago. We noticed our cat was acting funny- shaking, making meowing sounds like she was hurt. Upon investigation, we saw 2 small wounds the size of fingertips. We called the vet, and they recommended to bathe her, cut the hair away, and then clean the wound. We will be monitoring her condition over the next while. Hopefully, she is alright.

You must be aware of the multiple complaints of Hartz Ultra Guard Flea & Tick treatment product and death of pets, in my case - dog. I am recommending Wal-Mart to do a follow up on this message and pull out the product from the counter until Hartz can prove that the product is safe. My case # is **. I am very sad of the sudden lost of my dog, not to mention the sadness of my son. Wal-Mart must check on this product before case gets worse, maybe human will be reported.

Used on 11-month-old kitten. Bella became very ill. She could not stand up. She had twitching and convulsions. It was one of the worst things I have ever seen. It was a Saturday evening and no vets were open. I finally find PetSmart who called their doctor in for me. Bella had to have blood taken and given IVs. I took her home several hrs later and she still was very ill. It is three days later and she still is having problem. My Vet said Bella was poisoned from the Hartz product. My cat passed away January and I found Bella and she is a great kitten. I am very upset that she had to go through this. Also I am not sure if she has any long term effects.

My female cat was at the vet having an Xray because the vet thought her stomach felt lumpy and funny. The Xray showed what the vet said looked like someone had just pumped cement into her stomach. Three vets looked at the Xray and said they had never seen anything like it before. My dog got a hold of one of her Hartz mini mouses and I noticed when he ripped it open, what came out was just like clumping kitty litter or clay. I opened up another mouse and found this lump of stuff that clearly was clay. Now I'm wondering if this is what that textured cement-like stuff is what is in her stomach from the mouse toys. I have given her many, many of these to play with. She is also constipated now, and has only had one bowel movement in about a week. I called Hartz to find out what was in the mouse and they said it was crushed cardboard. This product says made in China, and I'll bet it is really clay and not just crushed cardboard. It is sticky and tacky like clay when wet. Tomorrow, I will talk to my vet to see what she thinks. I am hoping my cat does not die from this. I also opened another large Hartz mouse that she has had and that appeared to have dirt in it???

I had a Jack Russell (mix). His name was Jaxson. I gave him a bath with Hartz Fleas and Tick dip... on Sept. 03, 2008 and on Sept. 04, 2008 he was sick, vomiting, diarrhea. But I didn't think about the dip. I just thought it was something he had ate. When I took to the vet, he said antifreeze poisoning but I told him there was no way he got into antifreeze. It was a week later at the 2nd vet. She told us that he had kidney failure and liver was bad too. She put him on the IV pump for 2 weeks, then sent him home where we had to give fluid under his skin and gave him 7 different kinds of meds. He just got sicker and I had to put to sleep on Oct. 4, 2008. I have had a hard time getting over this. He was my life. My kids had their life to live and my husband works all the time. Jaxson was with me from daylight to dark. Everywhere I went, he went... I think they should put crossbones on the product... Then I would have known what it was I was using. I loved Jaxson so much. It's hard not seeing him everyday... Thank You.

My first bird was 7 years old, the second was only 4 months owned for 2 months, the last bird was given to me 5 days ago around a few months old also and died today on October 3rd, 2008.

I purchased Hartz brand cat toy mice from my local grocery store and gave them to my cat to play with. They are some sort of product that is wrapped in rabbit fur. One of my cats got very sick and I found the rabbit fur under a bed with only pieces of the substance that was underneath the fur. It became apparent that she ate the stuffing (if you can call it that). It seemed to be some sort of clay like substance.

Hartz is misleading the consumer by not listing the exact country of origin for its pet treats, dog chews, rawhides etc. Hartz is listing several countries of origin on their packaging such as china,Indonesia etc versus the actual country of origin for a specific product. I am sure that Hartz is doing this because if they listed just China no one would buy their products. It does not allow the consumer to make an informed decision which is the point.

My dog had a blockage in his stomach which was filling from a toy that Hartz made. It cost my alot of money to have this fixed. If a company is going to make dog toys then they better be safe for our dogs. I paid for a $4.00 dog toy and in return had to pay $1100 to make it right. I will never again purchase from Hartz again and I will spread the word about what kind of products they sell.

I bought Hartz OneSpot treatment for my cats for flea egg and larvae treatment, figureing it would be the same thing as advantage because we were low on money. and i put it on my cats well a few days later my male cat got very sick and his face got swollen, and it just keep getting worse and worse so we took him to the vet. he had to have surgery to get and abscess removed off of his face, he had puss and blood coming out of his mouth etc. it got bad. all because i put that medicine on him and of course like most animals do he licked at it.

I sent Hartz product (Shampoo and drops against flees and ticks) to my dad in Ukraine with full-translated directions. I bought this product in West Palm Beach Kmart on Okeechobee Blvd. My dad loves his three dogs as his babies and he religiously followed directions. He washed three dogs with a Hartz shampoo & conditioner for dogs. It caused severe skin reaction redness and rush and all fleas still alive on inflamed skin!!!

i first used hartz flea drops on my cat three years ago,she started having seizures,i stopped using hartz and the seizures stopped after a month. i used the new 4 in 1 flea drops on my dog she broke out in a terrible rash all over her body,i gave her a bath and stopped using hartz and she seems to be getting better. i give my cat hartz hairball salve and my cat started having seizures again. it finally dawned on me the common denominator. hartz products!!!!

In December 2006 applied Hartz Advance Care Drops+ to oour 8-year-old cat. She suffered a chemical burn and hair loss over an area the size of a half-dollar. The cat has been flea treated many times before, but with one of the products only available from a veterinarian. I washed the area as soon as I saw the burn area and applied neosporin. She had a oozing sore for days which is now dried and scabbed over. We hope her hair grows back. Hartz should be ashamed. consumers have trust that products are safe and animals are defenseless.

We purchased the Hartz ADVANCED CARE 2 in 1 Rid Flea Cat Shampoo that we have used for our cat several times before with no adverse effects. This time less then 6 hours after giving our cat a bath with said shampoo our cat started to throw up food and then foam...We took him to the Vet to be treated for the poisoning. He had to be put on an IV to flush his system.

On Sunday September 25, 2005 at about 8:30 pm I applied Hartz Advanced Care Flea and Tick Drops for Cats and Kittens 6-10 lbs on my three cats. By 1:00 am that morning my littlest cat Jinx was having a severe reaction to the product. he was flailing around, panting, and convulsing. It was a terrible thing to watch. I immediately contacted the poison control center and they advised me if he continued to do so to take him to the vet in the morning.

I purchased Hartz flea and tick drops for my cat and applied them according to the directions. My cat began to lick herself and the next morning when I got up she was acting strange and sickly, so I called my Vet he told me to get her in their now. When he examined her he told me that the drops I put on her had poisined her and she would have to be put into the hospital for treatment.

MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW PURCHASED HARTZ FLEA CONTROL 3 MONTH FOR HER 2 KITTENS AND ONE OLDER CAT. SHE ADMINISTERED IT TO ALL 3 OF THEM. ONE HALF HOUR LATER ALL 3 OF THEM WENT INTO CONVULSIONS!!!!!!!! THEY WERE RUSHED TO THE VETERNARIANS OFFICE WHERE THAT TRIED TO SAVE THEM BUT COULDN'T! ALL THREE CATS DIED! WE ARE OUTRAGED. SHE LEFT A MESSAGE FOR THE MANAGER TO CALL HER BACK AND SHE HAS NOT HEARD FROM THEM. PLEASE HELP...HER 5 YEAR OLD SON IS TRAMATIZED AND MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WAS HESTERICAL. MY CAT IS THE MOTHER OF 2 OF THE KITTENS.
