What is CertaPet?
CertaPet is a completely online telehealth service that provides access to a licensed mental health professional for those needing an ESA letter. CertaPet specializes in the U.S. and Canada, striving to improve quality of life for individuals coping with mental health conditions. By facilitating the process of obtaining ESA letters through a fast, simple and secure process, CertaPet ensures that patients swiftly receive their 100% legal and confidential ESA letter.
How does CertaPet work?
CertaPet’s simple three-step process ensures that the patient swiftly and securely obtains their ESA letter(s). The steps are as follows:
- Complete a short, confidential pre-screening application online. This questionnaire presents easy, multiple-choice questions to assist in matching you with the appropriate LMHP for your condition. It typically takes about five minutes.
- Consult with an LMHP. Once the pre-screening is accepted, the platform matches you with an LMHP based on your answers. Before consulting with the LMHP, you must pay the associated fees. Then you participate in a 15-minute online consultation with your assigned LMHP to discuss your needs and determine if you qualify for an ESA letter. If you’re approved, the LMHP will write the requested letter(s) immediately.
- Obtain your ESA letter. Electronic letters, if approved, are available as a digital download on the platform as soon as you finish the consultation. Hard copy requests are delivered by mail within two to three business days.
CertaPet makes renewals easy by allowing you to sign up for automatic renewal at the time of payment. It also offers help with additional forms required by your travel or housing authority for an additional fee.
CertaPet packages
CertaPet offers three packages for ESA letters. Prices below are accurate as of the time of publishing and can vary by state.
- Housing only: ESA letter for patients to provide to a landlord or other housing authority for $149.99
- Travel only: ESA letter for patients to give to an airline or other travel authority for $149.99
- Housing and travel: Includes both ESA letters for $199.99
How much does CertaPet cost?
At the time of publishing, CertaPet ESA letters cost $149.99 for a single housing or travel letter and $199.99 for both letters. This pricing includes the consultation and the letter(s). Renewal letters cost $99 for one type or $149 for both.
Additional forms required by a housing or travel authority begin at $49.99. This includes reasonable accommodation letters to modify rental homes with equipment required for a disability. CertaPet offers payment plans for U.S. residents. If you require a second ESA, it offers a clinical review for $99.99. However, CertaPet does not approve more than two ESAs per patient.

How do you file to get an ESA letter from CertaPet?
To apply, fill out the pre-screening form on the website to determine your eligibility for an ESA. If you qualify through the automated questionnaire, the system matches you with an LMHP. Next, it prompts you to select your package and pay the associated fees. Next, you meet with your LMHP and discuss your needs. The LMHP decides if you qualify. If you’re approved, your letter immediately becomes available. If you’re denied, CertaPet refunds your money.
How long does it take to get an ESA letter from CertaPet?
Typical turnaround to schedule a consultation is two business days. Once you meet with a mental health professional and are approved, you can download a digital copy of the letter right away. If you request a hard copy of your ESA letter, delivery usually takes two to three business days.
Where is CertaPet available?
CertaPet serves all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, and select Canadian locations (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Newfoundland, Labrador, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut).
Does CertaPet have a guarantee?
Yes, CertaPet guarantees a refund for all denials. Full refunds require cancellation before the patient meets with the LMHP. Any other refund requests require a case-by-case review.
Does CertaPet offer payment plans?
CertaPet offers payment plans only to U.S. residents. Patients who request both housing and travel letters can make a down payment of $35.99, followed by three monthly payments of $59.99. For those needing just one letter, the down payment is $35.99, with three monthly payments of $44.99 thereafter.
Does CertaPet register service animals (SAs)?
No, CertaPet is not a registry for SAs or ESAs. The website clearly states that emotional support animals don’t require registration.

The therapist assigned to me was very considerate and kind. She talked me through the process and helped me get me ESA letter. Since then I've been so happy to have my pet living with me in my apartment. Definitely would recommend Certapet to others who struggle with anxiety. Good experience. Very clear instructions to complete pre consultation review. Soon after submitting you get an acknowledgement and assigned therapist to set an ph interview appointment. After phone call if all qualifications are meet your ESA let is available to download from site. Great service and helpful therapist that checks in with you via email from time to time.

I was trying to get my baby registered as an ESA to move into an apartment… Even though they were being extremely difficult because they go through a third party called Our Pet Policy I was still able to get what I needed for her.
