My little guy has become quite gassy since we transitioned him over to the Blue Buffalo. I was feeding him Pedigree Small Dog and wanted to do better for him, so I researched and found Blue Buffalo. It wasn't until I typed in Blue Buffalo and gas online that I saw all of the complaints. Then I realized, he was having a lot more than just gas. Little things that seemed not like him lately. I attributed it to him getting older maybe. In the last month this is what I have noticed: terribly obnoxious gas, increased bowel movements, suddenly eating grass, not wanting to jump into the car anymore, mopey...

I have no proof that it is this dog food, but I am not risking it so we will not be feeding him this anymore. Pedigree may not have been perfect, but he did not have these issues. I feel terrible that I had no idea and finding this site was very helpful. Next time I research a food I will search it along with symptoms to see if any complaints emerge. A few complaints I understand, but what I have discovered is more than an anomaly... there is an obvious issue with this food.

We started giving our Shih tzu Blue Buffalo last Nov. 2014 because it was supposed to be better for him. However, when we opened the last bag purchased last month he became very ill throwing up everywhere. For the two days he ate from this bag, so we took him to the vet. After an exam and blood work it was determined he needed to stay at the vet and be put on an I.V and be watched and medicated. The batches of dog food were not always mixed the same. He has been a restricted medicated diet since then and is still having some stomach trouble. I returned the dog food to Tractor Supply in Monroe, Ga where it has always been purchased. They vet bills and our expenses. They don't respond to my emails.

My 2 boxer/Shepherd mix girls have eaten BB chicken and rice all along (almost 3 yrs) and they too lately haven't been very interested in it. I also use Dinovite and coconut oil in their food. Recently I noticed Taz's feet in between her pads were pretty red!! Anna's were too but not as bad. I stopped giving them everything but the BB. And still Taz is wanting to lick her paws, dry hair and a lot of shedding, that's why I started Dinovite and coconut oil. Please any feedback is appreciated. These are my kids, plus our grandfather passed away and we have his border collie that has same diet. I'm very upset over hearing they are doing business with China!!! I buy NOTHING!!! from China and for a very good reason... I LOVE MY GIRLS.

I started using Blue as per all the ads of more protein & no "corn gluten" etc. 1st to occur was gray, foul smelling poops & more pooping than usual. Then excessive tearing in all 3 cats' eyes & a strange sneeze that won't quit. (1 is going to vet for a lump that occurred & then quit - odd.) Switched back to Purina One dry that I used for yrs, no problems, just thought this Blue might be better for them. I'm now thinking not so good. Sticking to my 20 yrs tried & true Purina foods. (Even the vet has switched to Purina, rid of that awful Hill's, which may work if the cat will eat it!) Mine & many others wouldn't, thus the switch to Purina. (I'm not a Purina rep or work at a vet office, just a cat parent.)

I changed my dog's food in February 2015 to the no-grain Blue Buffalo in an attempt to find the source of his scratching (most likely allergies from pollen). Within a few weeks he lost 20 lbs and developed lymphoma. He stopped eating so I switched to the wet canned Blue Buffalo. He stopped eating all together and the vets told me chemotherapy was the only hope for a few months of prolonging his life. He died last night. From late February until last night (March 20th) he lost the weight and his abdomen was swollen and tight from lymphoma. I suspect it was Blue Buffalo Pet Foods so I began to look online and found thousands of complaints with dogs having symptoms just like mine did. Stay away from this food.

In early January we rescued a 4 month old GSD mix. Based on product labeling and pet store recommendations and the high price of the food we chose to feed her Blue Buffalo Natural Chicken and Brown Rice for Puppies. She vomited her first serving. We wrote this off to her being in a new home and anxiety. She had loose stools. We wrote this off to her teething. She began displaying allergy symptoms and secondary infection: Digging in her bed, licking floor, pawing at face, conjunctivitis, chewing at herself as if she had fleas (she had none), licking her lips and swallowing hard. She underwent antibiotic therapy which helped with conjunctivitis but nothing more. She incessantly ate grass, had excessive thirst, and frequent urination.

Last Sunday she was lethargic. When she did get up she was limping (diagnosed by vet as Pano). At that point I researched her food and found the plethora of complaints. I took her off the food and began feeding her Turkey and Rice. Within 24 hours all symptoms except limping were gone (the limping had improved by 80%). By day four off of the Blue she was no longer limping at all.

Then the blood came next, she was throwing up blood and pooping blood. I was so scared, took her to vet, they said she looks like she was poison so they ran tests. Yes, she was poisoned by the dog food, she was so sick they told us that she would not make it, they gave us medicine and sent us home. She bleed out her but for almost two weeks every time she pooped, we started pumping the meds in her. Finally she got better but we almost lost her. Please listen if you care about your dog, you will not feed them this food. It is poison and they need to take it off the shelf.

I purchased the Blue Buffalo Wilderness wet puppy food for my Yorkie puppies (11 months and 6 months of age) when I ran out of the Science Diet that I've always fed them. Both puppies ended up with horrible, smelly diarrhea, they were throwing up, became dehydrated. I had to take them to the vet and get blood tests and meds for the nausea. The Vet agreed that this was caused by the food. She said she highly recommended that no dog be given this brand of food for these same reasons. This food is very fatty. You can see it inside of the can when you open it. This decision to purchase this brand cost me $300 and time off from work. The vet also put them on a chicken and rice diet and meds to hopefully clear this up quickly.

We purchased our first puppy in Tennessee from a well known breeder. Our German Shepard, Cyrus was just 6 weeks old when we brought him home. He had always been on Victor. And the breeder we got him from warned us about Diamond, having an extremely checkered past. So we took him to Petco and a sales associate had told us about Blue Buffalo Puppy Formula. He has been on it for about a month. At first Cyrus was able to tell us when he had to use the bathroom. His stools were normal. Training had become easy. Shepherds are smart dogs. Showing them something a few times, they have it down pat.

We switched him from Victor to Blue Buffalo at about 10 weeks. Ever since he has not been himself, not eating like he was when we first got him. Diarrhea constantly. Can't even come tell us he has to go because he can't make it in time. Throwing up just started about 3 days ago. Barking in our face. Laying on his back wanting his belly rubbed. Shepherds are not submissive dogs. They do not lay on their backs. They do not bark in your face. And the behavior has done a 180 since switching his food to the Blue Buffalo along with his diarrhea and vomiting. I woke up this morning with 3 piles of poop in the house and a miserable looking puppy. I couldn't do it anymore! I knew it was the food! It had to be!

I went to a local pet store and met a wonderful lady who told me BB is an awful food to feed your puppy and known for many false ingredients in their food. I just bought Fromm for a puppy and am excited for him to try it. They do not have a checkered past or bad reviews and are family owned. I gave him his first feeding an hour ago and I did not switch like they say you should, I completely took him off BB and immediately when I stumbled across this site! I can't believe what I have read. The loss of people's pets and how could this be possible that they are still allowed to sell this food! My heart goes out to these families! I am so glad I did research after a few weeks and found out BB was NOT what I should have been feeding my baby!

I have not looked to see if there are more metal pieces in the bag. As of 10am I have not heard back from Blue Buffalo regarding this issue. My concern is that this is fed to our two Feline Leukemia positive cats and I do not know if they have ingested smaller metal fragments since the bag is over half way gone.

I would definitely stay far away from this food. I have a healthy and happy 5 y/o pug that was doing well on the Whole Paws brand food at Whole Foods. I, like an idiot, bought into all the marketing Blue Buffalo does to brainwash consumers and decided to switch her diet over gradually thinking this brand would be healthier. She's been eating just Blue Buffalo for only four or five days now and has suddenly developed what looks to be a UTI. She never has had an accident in the house and is very good about only going outside, yet today she couldn't hold it in and urinated on the floor. Once outside, she proceeded to urinate 5 more times. Additionally, her urine was dark colored with small amounts of blood. Now I have to take time out of work tomorrow and pay what will likely be a substantial vet bill all because Blue Buffalo is poison in disguise. DO NOT trust this brand, it's not worth you pet's health.

I switched her to their Wilderness line of dried food and a week later she had a bad gastroenteritis attack and her stomach never went back to normal. Had to switch to prescription diet from the vet which is expensive and corn is number one ingredient. Don't know what brand to switch to now. I think Blue Buffalo Wilderness was responsible for her gastro problems. I thought this was a trustworthy high end brand. I've been reading about too many problems with this food, including deaths.

We switched to the BB Senior and all was good for our 9 year old German Shepherd until our last bag we bought at PetSmart in mid February. I immediately noticed the bag appearance had changed. Within a week our poor baby had uncontrollable bowels and sever colitis with blood in it!!! We rushed her to the vet and they treated her and switched her to Hills Science for Sensitive Stomach and Skin. A round of antibiotics and anti diarrhea medication administered in the vet office. The vet said it was good related. Her blood work and stool came back normal despite the bloody stool. When I called BB to complain and see if the food had recently changed along with the bag, the rep said they only made "slight" changes... (yeah right). And when I asked her if they outsourced their grain or meat, she admitted to me of them getting some of their different meats and products from foreign countries.

I decided I had better take him off it and replace with something with claims of no bad added substance. My dog (knock on wood) has never in 14 years been sick, other than the normal things that dogs have. I started him on the Blue with red meat. For the past 5 days he has had nothing but waterlike loose runs, and countless vomiting. I know there are changes in an animal when weaning them from one food to another but this is ridiculous!!

Sunday March 8, 2015 my 11 year old Chihuahua became ill in the middle of the night, throwing up all over the place and couldn't keep anything down. March 9, 2015 we took him to the vet and his blood tests said he had a severe infection and none of his blood work was consistent with anything they saw before and didn't know what to make of it. He had high levels of phosphorus which suggested kidneys but his kidney and pancreas tests came back fine. They gave him an antibiotic and nausea shot with meds to take at home but wanted to hospitalize him if he was still not eating and throwing up in the morning.

He didn't make it to the morning. March 10 around 630 am my baby died in my arms. A month prior he had started eating Blue Buffalo Lamb (switched from chicken) and got violently ill, throwing up and pooping everywhere. My other two dogs also started throwing up all over the place. I picked the food up and took it back and switched to Merrick grain-free and they no longer were throwing up and he took a little while to stop the pooping but he recovered.

He started losing weight after eating the Blue Buffalo but acted normal. The vet said he must have been dealing with an infection and toxicity for a while and started crashing from the infection or toxicity from overwhelming his system for such a long period of time (which the only thing that made him ill was the food) and his system gave out. The only culprit is the Blue Buffalo food. This food killed my dog. No one should EVER buy this food. This company should be shut down.

In switching them to BB, our other dog who suffered seizures and was on medication twice a day for her seizures, stopped having seizures. She was even taken off her medications and never had another seizure. I also noticed that her fatty tumors had shrunk after making the switch. Unfortunately we recently lost her, but I am convinced we had more time with her because we switched her to BB. Unfortunately, this switch to BB had no impact on my golden retriever's skin problems.

We have been feeding our 18-month old pom/chi mix, Ike Blue Buffalo Grain Free formulas for well over a year now. He is a very healthy, active and playful puppy and we thought that we were doing the right thing by feeding him this "wonderful" dog food, so we thought.

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine told me to stop feeding Ike the BB right away. She said that dogs were getting sick from it with serious stomach issues, vomiting, etc. She said that she was taking her 6 month old Golden off of it immediately. My thought was not to do that for Ike because he seemed to be doing well on it and like it.

In February 2015 he had a bad diarrhea accident in the house. That night he wasn't eating his food, but he was his playful self and so I didn't think much of it. The next morning my husband left early, had to get the kids ready for school (typical morning craziness) so I didn't pay much attention to the fact that he didn't eat a single ounce of food. Off I went to work, crated Ike, and came home to a horrifying scene - diarrhea all over the crate, he was crying in pain, bleeding from the rectum and foaming at the mouth. He immediately ran outside after I let him out of the crate and couldn't even make it down the front steps before going to the bathroom everywhere. I immediately scooped him up and brought him to the vet.

He was severely dehydrated, had a high fever and had to be put on IV fluids right away. Seeing that he is only 12 lbs, he was in very bad shape. After he was stabilized and before the X-rays, the vet asked me the typical questions - did he get into the garbage, ingest an ibuprofen that fell on the floor, etc. NO. X-Rays came back to show nothing in his system thankfully except a very bad case of colitis. When I told the vet what we fed him, he said "I hate Blue Buffalo, get him off of it right away.” He proceeded to tell me that there have been recent changes in the company and that is has gone to **. Well, isn't that the truth?!

Ike is still on a diet of white rice and cottage cheese, and taking antibiotics. He is happy self again and on the mend. Blood work and urine tests all OK. Thank Goodness! He is still on two different medications and his stools are loose but no more diarrhea! We will be feeding him Merrick now and just earlier put a little in his cottage cheese/rice mixture and he loved it! While this ordeal was traumatic (and expensive too, a nearly $1000 vet bill) we consider ourselves to be very lucky. I am so sick reading all of these review or precious pups who have suffered at the hands of this AWFUL company.

Got a bag of Blue when I was hearing all the bad reports and seeing law suits on Beneful. My lab and Shih Tzu would not eat it. So I figured it was from being new. I put milk on it as I knew they would eat anything with milk and both acted sick. They laid around and Marley the lab acted like her stomach was upset and she had bad gas. Hope just acted like she did not feel good. Marley had the poo's on the second day and thank heavens Hope the shih tzu did not. They only ate it two days when I found this site. I threw the food in the trash the next morning. I then spent about two hours researching food. I found a company that I cannot rave enough about that is SAFE and my shih tzu is picky. Will only eat food if it has milk on it.

The name of this company is PETBROSIA and is made here in Ohio. There are no complaints on this company. They make and get all their ingredients in the United States. My dogs love it and beg for more. They will ask your dogs age, breed, weight, any medical issues, etc. Each bag is made for that dog and even cat. You can get the food delivered on auto ship and get the shipping for free. It DOES cost a little more. But to me getting the food at a little higher is better than paying thousands on vet bills and loss of life. I do not work for this company, I am not out to try to drum up business for anyone. I just want people to know what I researched and found and thank God that I did to save my pets.

If this can only help one more person reading it then that is all that matters that one pet could be saved. So please look into this company like I did and tell them if you have to that ( ** ) recommended it. That way you will know this is real and not someone trying to scam people into a bad product. They also have a salmon one which is what I put Marley on for her sensitive stomach. I hope that this saves at least someone time and perhaps their pet.

Not wanting to eat, lethargic, not wanting to go for walks, unable to jump in the car or even go for car rides (her favorite for sure). When she developed a part-time limp, it was the red flag that sent me to the vet. After a full blood panel, it was found she had acute pancreatitis and further testing discovered she is now a full blown diabetic. There was nothing wrong with her before last December. I recently purchased a bag of the Salmon dog food and within 2 days one dog started scratching like crazy, was throwing extensively up and had bloody diarrhea. He was lethargic and stopped eating. I also noticed he had red spots in his ears and on his body. It looked like some sort of rash or burn spots. I took him to the vet and they said his blood sample came back fine and they didn't know what was wrong except he might be having an allergic reaction to something. I work from home so my dogs spend most of their time at my feet during the day. I knew there wasn't anything he had gotten in to around the house.

Two days later, my second dog started having the exact same symptoms so the only thing I could think of was their food. I checked online and saw numerous comments about Blue Wilderness causing these problems so have stopped feeding them this, although they refused to eat it once they got sick. They are on a rice and chicken diet for now and are both getting better. I will not be giving them Blue Wilderness ever again and hope both my dogs recover fully. One has started with a cough for the last 3 days so thinking this is also a result of Blue Wilderness. I would not recommend this dog food to anyone and the fact that Blue Wilderness has so many reports of these negative side effects is extremely disturbing. I am going to buy their old dog food today and transition them back to it. The claims of pets having less stool and eating less is a joke. I paid $50.00 a bag (plus tax) for a dog food that is horrible. I implore anyone who is planning on switching to this dog food to think first, do your research and then think again. I have included pictures of the carpet in the den and living room and of the dogs.

I started to notice blood in her urine. I immediately took her off this food. Now she is being treated & tested at the vet. This company should be shut down! Shame on them.

I had a 3 1/2 year old healthy pekingese girl that was fed Taste of the Wild for several months, and Science Diet before that... I decided to switch her to Blue Buffalo because of its popularity. Within just a few days, she had very runny diarrhea and stopped wanting to eat at all. This past Sunday I woke to take her outside, and her room that she stays in was covered in blood spots all over the floor, the couch, her chair, everywhere. I called my vet immediately and rushed her there and they put her on fluids.. Less than 12 hours later she had passed. Her blood work was all pretty normal except for dehydration and things like that.. no infection. Vet claims it was colitis, and another vet said it was a GI bleed. No one could give me a an answer as to why it happened. I am completely heart broken, and if it were Blue Buffalo, I pray they straighten things out before the same thing happens to someone else.

I had also heard that BB was a quality dog food. I believe before 2014 it may have been. The company was sold to the Mars corp late 2014. Now many of it's ingredients are outsourced. Purina is suing BB for false labeling. BB states they do not add any by-products when in fact they do. This was found in independent analysis of their dog food. Not that Purina has a better product because they do not. Purina also has a class action lawsuit due to poisoning and death of over 4,000 dogs with their Beneful product. Do your research.

My English Bulldog became extremely ill while eating BB. That is what prompted me to research dog food brands and ingredient lists. Dog food is not regulated by the FDA or any other agency. I have switched to Acana and will not feed my animals anything else. My Vet at one point insisted that I switch to Hills Science Diet. This is one of the worst low grade dog foods on the market. Vets tend to push this product due to the kickbacks they receive from the manufacturer. I now also have a new Vet. If you care about your furry friends please do your homework. Do this before you feed them harmful food products produced by a greedy industry that could care less if it kills our pets.

I Just started feeding my dogs Blue Buffalo. I feed them 2 large bags full. One dog stopped eating, one threw up three times, and one had two spots where her hair is missing and one spot where she was getting a crusty spot on her belly. I have then switched them over faster than I should have but now they are doing better. Eating, not throwing up. My girl's hair started growing on the back, the crusty spot looks much better. The one spot of hair loss was larger but looks like it is coming back.

We had a very senior cat of 19 years old, he just passed away 2 yrs ago this Mother's Day. At the time, he was on the high protein formula. Our vet was so surprised that his fur was like a much younger cat - you know how their fur changes when they get near end. So in the past 2 yrs, I have been so surprised with all these complaints and medical problems with animals lately. It sure is too bad because we just got a new puppy and was going to put him on the BB as well because of how well I like it for my cat and he was on it for his last 6 yrs of his life. If you stop having it made in China, I may go back to it but I buy nothing from China and if I do and I find out it is, it goes straight into the garbage and will never buy it again.

And if it has GMO anything, it too will remain in the store as well. I once bought shoes that were made in China and had them on for one day only and had open oozing sores on the back of my heels and they took months to heal and still to this day, I have red scars the size of a dime still there. Not only that, where I live, we are charged an extra $0.08 per liter of gas as a carbon tax. What, so that money goes to China to poison us. I was so disappointed last year when I saw GMO tomato plants being sold at Canadian Tire. It was a yellow tomato called "Lemon Boy" that just stayed at the store.

Please BB, change your ways and only good ingredients and I don't see anymore complaints like this anymore and you will have a very supportive customer back. I really enjoyed your product and I am sure that you gave us a few extra yrs with our kitty. His all-time favorite was the canned Duck and Rabbit. He sure was upset when we couldn't buy it anymore in that last year of his life, because you stopped producing it. PLEASE PLEASE CHANGE YOUR WAYS.

My English Bulldog was on Blue Buffalo for the first 3 1/2 years that he's been with me. Things started off fine but got progressively worse. It started with me noticing that the kibble in every other bag was a different color. It was never uniform. Then Howard started getting constipated and when he was able to go, he would go 2-3 times in a row because he couldn't push everything out. My wife and I considered switching him off of Blue Buffalo when the last straw happened. The last bag of Blue Buffalo that we ever bought actually was full of dead dried-up worms attached to this really fibrous substance that was throughout the entire bag bottom 3/4 of the bag. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until he had eaten the food for the top already and developed diarrhea and was overall not comfortable.

Since then we've switched him to Wellness Core Ocean Formula and he has never been happier. He can't wait to eat his breakfast in the morning, has tons of energy, his allergies are better than ever, and his digestion is outstanding. Blue Buffalo would have eventually killed my dog, I have no doubt in my mind.

In January, I switched my 2 dogs (an English Pointer and a Lab/Terrier mix) to Blue Buffalo dog food. I thought switching them would help my Pointer with her sensitive stomach as I had heard that a grain-free diet would benefit her. Pretty quickly, both dogs have been very lethargic and have had vomiting and diarrhea. 2 weeks ago, my Lab mix was unable to control her bowels. After a second episode of diarrhea, the contents of which was all blood, I took her to the vet. I thought I was going to have to put her to sleep that day (she is 2 years old). The vet said he had never seen anything like it before. He put her on 3 different kinds of medicine and I was told to bring her back immediately if she became worse. Well, she got better and after a week of giving her rice and boiled chicken, I started her back on the Blue Buffalo dog food again.

My Pointer has been walking away from her food dish, but is eating some of it. She had a small seizure the other day which scared the heck out of me, and her. I have been keeping a close eye on both of them. The only thing I could think of was that I had switched them both to BLUE. I could not figure out why they have BOTH been so ill, until went online today and read all of the posts. Shame on Blue Buffalo for poisoning people's pets, and SHAME ON Petco and PetSmart for endorsing them and stocking BLUE products. The vet cost me almost $300, not to mention that I spent about $100 on the big bags of food I just bought that I have to throw away.

After the 2 large bags, I decided to let him taste something different so I bought the Red Meat flavor. My puppy was sick from the first night. He had diarrhea, bloody stool and vomited. I thought he ate something he shouldn't at the dog park. He had an x-ray but found nothing apart from inflammatory all along from stomach through his rear. He ate plain boiled rice for a week then I gave him the Red Meat puppy food again when his stool got firmer.

His buddy puppy was with me that day and ate the same food. That very same night, my puppy and his buddy had the worst diarrhea ever, stinky bloody and watery poop puddles all over my bedroom. I stopped feeding him the dog food and gave him boiled rice again for several days until his stool firmed up. Then I fed him that dog food again. Guess what? Diarrhea again! Now I am 100% sure, it's this Rocky Mountain Recipe Grain Free Puppy Red Meat that cause the sickness. I thought my puppy was intolerant to the food so I gave the food bag to my friend and his puppy had diarrhea on the first day he had the food. No other conclusion, the food is poisoning.

Having heard such good things about it, I thought it was probably one of the best available. And for the price I certainly would hope so! The type is Blue Life Protection Healthy Weight Adult Dog Chicken and Rice. However, after initially eating it with no obvious problems for a day or two, she suddenly began to not eat, or only nibble at her food. Her breakfast was still there at dinner time, her dinner was still there the next morning. She became lethargic and started vomiting up what she ate.

This morning I looked for recalls and came to this site... all of the complaints look like just what we are going through. I have thrown out the remainder of the food and am going back to our usual brand. I also have contacted the company and hope that others on here have as well. Hopefully she will quickly improve... I make Blue dry food available if puppy gets extra hungry or needs extra nutrition. My thinking was this: would I eat the same food day-in and day-out, 24/7? With preservatives, natural or otherwise? With GMO rice grains perhaps? Of course not. I would get very sick. I don't even know the source of the chickens or if they were fed GMO corn! A dog has a great sense of smell. Why should I not home-cook for him fresh meals that taste great? I believe dogs need a variety of fresh foods. Dry food is hard on the tummy, the fillers & added vitamins can simply be too much. Toxic patches of food exists in every big brand label. Silos of food, food that spoils, will spoil. Molds grow. Some bags filled at the bottom of the silo will just be too old perhaps.

My puppy is having no side effects from Blue in 10 months - we're still on the first small bag. In other words, he's eating most of his meals as mommy's "home-made." The 6-pound bag expires in May. I keep it airtight. The puppy eats his dry food as he wills. A little tiny natural preservative, added vitamins, GMO rice perhaps (?), we can tolerate. Our farm dogs got a variety of "real" food. Too much of any one commercial thing is toxic to any system. Packaging & food processing always has its risks. EAT FRESH, and use dry food as added supplementation, sparingly, in my opinion. The Blue bag does not say how much a dog or puppy can tolerate! We've been sold by our vets to use commercial food products. Our vet visits increase - go figure.

I've spoken to people who say that blue caused diarrhea in their dogs (all had used Wilderness without the "recommended" transition period, whatever...their dog got the ** and that's serious business!). The number one complaint on blue is this: "my dog didn't like it!"

Now, let me confide in you and tell you that I'm a bb rep. They pay me to get you to use bb! BUT...I'm a dog daddy, first and foremost. I ask EVERY blue customer what they think about the food. Here is the truth about this product...(I'm a retired reading professor, so you know)...bb customers RAVE about this product! I have heard so many rave reviews that you would use this food, whether or not your dog even liked it, had the **, or ! Health, energy, no allergy problems, great poohs. No **, bb is actual a good dog food. Thanks for reading this seriously tendered review from a knowledgable dog daddy (who has had good results, himself). This food came highly recommended as "the best", "most healthy" food for him. At first all seemed fine but most recently we've experienced 2 episodes where he acted drunk, seemed lethargic, lost control of his bladder, listed to one side when he tried to walk. Our highly energetic and agile pup was instantly transformed into an almost paralyzed senior dog. After spending hundreds on tests at an ER vet he seemingly bounced back and appeared to be his normal self. The big question from the vet was "did he eat something to make him sick?"

Only 2 1/2 weeks later it's happened again. The vet strongly feels that he has been having seizures! We've gone over everything... What does he eat? Did he get into anything? - etc. Watching him like a hawk after the first episode we felt confident that he didn't get into anything outside or a chemical of any kind. Only now, after this recent episode was it brought to my attention to look at BB pet food... and the picture becomes more clear. His disinterest in eating... I think he would finally eat because he was starving - the symptoms listed above... So much for feeding my pup "the best". What a disgrace BB!!

We took the bag back to the store and they gave us our money back. We did not get the $1000 in vet bills that this one bag of dog food cost us, plus the total upset in our family. I will never buy Blue Buffalo again and I warn anyone that does. We just about lost our pup!

My vet has never said anything bad about Blue Buffalo food and our black Labrador has been on it for 6 months or so now, and she's always had regular stool (unless she ate something besides her food). She doesn't throw up. She hardly ever has gas. I had a cat on science diet that died horribly but I don't blame the food. Sometimes stuff happens and sometimes they have illnesses that we don't know they have until too late and it's easy to blame anyone but ourselves. I adored my cat but I didn't go on a rant after her death trying to ban the food. Blue Buffalo is working for my family so I would continue using it.

We used to feed our two dogs, APBTs about 1.5-2 years, BB because we heard that it was a good quality food. At first, our dogs seemed fine, but then late last year they started vomiting randomly. They still had high energy were running and playing, so I wasn't too worried but kept a watchful eye. One of my dogs has a sensitive stomach anyway but I noticed his stools were frequently soft and gel-like. I reached out to my fellow dog-friends, and many commented that Blue Buffalo was not a good food, so I started looking it up. I didn't find this website until today, but I found others that were saying that the food wasn't good quality (nothing about making pets sick) so, I figured we would switch anyway. Taste of the Wild came recommended from a friend who adopted from the same rescue we got our two from, so I gave that a whirl. We have been feeding them TOTW for about 1 month now without any problems. I will never go back to BB.

We have a 2 year old lab who had been eating Blue Buffalo Wilderness since we got him in June. He wasn't sick on it but didn't show much interest in eating. He would graze on it every few days. I just figured he wasn't a big eater. I bought my last bag in January and he became very ill after he started eating it. Horrible diarrhea for days. I took him to the vet and he did not test positive for a parasite but the vet put him on an antibiotic to fight any bacterial infection. Coincidentally the vet said I was the THIRD person he had seen that DAY whose dog eats Blue Buffalo and is reporting the exact same symptoms. Needless to say we switched his food to NutriSource and he has been fine ever since. He also inhales his food now and eats immediately when I put it down. I feel awful for having fed him Blue but thankful we caught it before he got even sicker or died.

Purchases Blue Buffalo 1/24/15 from Petco. This was 2nd bag (first one we transitioned over in November). Started using this bag on 2/7/15. Our 14 Lb terrier mix who is 3.5 years old, started vomiting that evening. We thought it was due to her eating it too fast. She didn't eat again. Until the next afternoon... she again became terribly sick about 4 more times. Some of it was foamy yellow color. Her vomit also appeared to be undigested food. Our dog would not even look at the blue buffalo dish. She walked as far as she could around the dish and avoided it at all cost...which is so odd. We tried switching her back to dog chow but ended up at vet the next day since she wouldn't eat and continued to vomit 6 times.

After x-rays and extensive blood work - she has been diagnosed with jaundice/hepatitis/liver infection and after an ultrasound on all her organs; she also has possible gall bladder issues. We had two different vets review the findings and they both feel it is something with the blue buffalo food. We are sending the bagged food to Michigan State University to have it checked for bacteria, e coli, siminila and toxins.

Our normally healthy spunky dog has been having a tough time recovering from All this. She has lost over 2 lbs (Which is almost 20% of her body weight), she is on 4 medications now. Two antibiotics, 1 Nausea prevention, and a liver supplement. Her blood work revealed enzyme in her liver at 2600 and it should be at 35. The violent vomiting they think had bile reflux into her liver and gall bladder causing both to become infected. She is an only dog, we are in Michigan with a foot of snow in the ground so no chance she got into anything outside. We are certain it’s the blue buffalo as.

Over the next couple of years I switched all of my dogs to the same dog food (cocker spaniel and Akita mix). My pitbull was doing great on the food however my cocker spaniel and Akita mix were having kidney and liver problems due to the excessive amount of protein. I switched all of my dogs to Blue Buffalo chicken recipe. My pitbull continued on however my cocker spaniel and Akita mix were both diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome. I believe if the dogs remained on bil jac, they wouldn't have survived as long as they did. My cocker spaniel died at 14 years old and my Akita mix died at 13 years old. My pitbull has been on Blue Buffalo for at least 5 years and I have not had any problems with anything.

He's in perfect health. He eats like a horse, is very energetic and poops normally. I refuse to give him any treats from any dog food manufacturer because I do not trust them. The only time my dog has problems is when I give him rawhide bones. He's a big boy so he devours rawhide bones but spends the next week eating grass. I usually only buy rawhide bones the day I buy dog food because I am in the pet food store anyway. I swear by Blue Buffalo and I have nothing negative to say about it. I love my dog like my own son and treat him as my son and would never give him anything if I didn't trust it a hundred percent. I'm terrified to switch dog foods because of the horror stories I hear about Chinese ingredients and Chinese manufacturing. I attached a picture of my happy, healthy boy Charlie and I'm going to say I'm never switching dog foods. I love Blue Buffalo and I assure you I do not represent the company in any way.

I thought feeding Blue Buffalo dog food to my German Shepherd puppy from 3 months to 14 months was a smart idea. But I was completely wrong!!! Loose and foul stools at an early age that went away after a few months, but then the itching began and then a small cyst appeared on his head then it started getting bigger. I didn't think anything of it and thought it was genetics. The itching got so severe that I tried every soothing shampoo to relieve his condition. Nothing worked. Once the issues got to be so bad I knew it had to what he was eating.

I switched to a raw meat diet, beef stew, ground beef etc.. some organic some just regular meat. But within one day only, I started seeing a huge difference in not only his physical symptoms but also his behavior. My dog Bear is a completely new dog. He's calmer, more focused, his itching has almost completely disappeared, his cyst disappeared as well. All of this in only 4 days!!

I don't know how I got duped into this Blue Buffalo food, maybe clever marketing, maybe because of the price being so high that it HAD to be good for your pet. People please be careful with this dog food. I feel terrible that my dog had suffered this whole time and it was me that was giving him this food. I switched my dog from dental chews made in China to Blue Buffalo dental chews because of the warnings on products from China. With all the natural ingredients and no fillers and made in the USA, how could I go wrong. Plus the high price equals quality.. WRONG. After 3 days of one chew per day my dog started throwing up. I took her off for a few days thinking they were new and she had to get used to them. I tried again and after a few days she started eating grass and throwing up again.. I stopped the chews again.. Within a few days she woke up refusing food and water and couldn't jump off the bed.. She felt HOT..

My vet got me right in.. High temp, dehydration, and acute pancreatitis that my vet directly attributed to the treat and informed me of Blue Buffalo's history of making dogs have diarrhea and throw up. She was in urgent care the whole day on an IV for pain medication and hydration, and her GI tract was so inflamed that her belly was swollen and tender to the touch. She now has to be on an expensive prescription diet for the rest of her life and is still struggling with dehydration. This product has made my otherwise healthy dog sick and have completely changed her quality of life. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

I called customer service line on February 11th, the day this happened, and explained what was going on and made it clear that something needed to be done. The representative said she would send me a claim form and advised me to return the treats. I have not received this claim form yet. Petsmart was proactive and took the other items with the same lot number off the shelves right then.

We rescued Sadie (our now 4-year old female German Shepherd) in Feb. 2013. We fed her Iams chicken and rice formula, and she did wonderful on it. NO problems whatsoever. My boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to feed her something with more "natural" ingredients, so we switched her to Blue Buffalo in July 2014. We followed the switching instructions and gradually added in the new dog food until she got used to it. The first couple of weeks seemed fine, but right after that we noticed she was having a lot of gas and her stool was softer than usual. A few weeks later, she became violently ill. Vomiting, lethargic, wouldn't even try to eat a treat, and then the horrible diarrhea came. Very liquidy, and discolored. Possibly had some blood in it because of how dark it was.

Took her to the vet, and he told us that Her GI tract was severely inflamed (probably from bacterial build up) and she was constipated, which caught us by surprise because of her diarrhea.... Gave her a shot for the vomiting and an antibiotic to help with the inflammation/bacterial infection. We figured it was a food allergy to the chicken, but she didn't have any issues with the Iams formula. Our vet advised us to take her OFF of Blue immediately, because this happens so often to animals on BB and many do not make it, which is why our vets are strictly against all BB products. Instead of listening to the vet the first time we (BF's decision because of "vet being biased") put her on the BB salmon and sweet potato formula. Once again, she seemed to do fine for a while, but then she got sick again. This time it was even worse.

This time we had to see a different vet because of ours being out of town. He gave her a shot for the vomiting and diarrhea, and another antibiotic, Science Diet canned Light GI Restore dog food, and we were advised once again to get her off of Blue. We were also told about what all had been found in BB dog food by other vets and pet owners. Hair had been found in many bags of BB products (actually in the kibble bits.) This was discovered when vet technicians did an experiment and put 1 cup of BB dog food into a glass of water and let it sit over night. They came back the next morning with all the food softened and falling apart, with tons of hair floating to the top of the glass. *That is disgusting*. We were also told of rocks found in the kibble. Finally realizing that it wasn't a food allergy, we were basically poisoning our dog, our baby girl, a member of our family!

I cried knowing that we were doing this to her, and not on purpose. My bf was very torn up as well, the thought of losing his baby girl was terrifying. After facing the possibility of losing her, we put her back on good old Iams and she has been PERFECT EVER SINCE! Now my parents have a 10-year old male German Shepherd name Willie. They heard of Blue when he was 8 years old and decided to give it a shot. Didn't have any vomiting or diarrhea issues, but he was very lethargic and didn't want to play. They knew he had arthritis, so they asked the doc to look him over real good when all of his shots were due. His blood work came back showing a deadly low white blood cell count, meaning that his white blood cell count was practically nonexistent. This is constant with rat poisoning, cancers, and vitamin poisoning.

The vet told them if they couldn't get his white blood cell count back up, then his kidneys could start shutting down, and he would be prone to many illness and viruses. We knew no one had tried to poison him. Vet advised them that it could be the BB. Immediately, they switched him back to Eukanuba (or Purina, I can't remember which on they feed him), and everything went back to normal. Blue Buffalo is poisoning our pets with their product. I will NEVER again purchase anything related to BB. I hope all of you do the same.

She's west highland white terrier so I purchased the lamb and rice from Blue Buffalo. My dog was on the new food for 1-1/2 months. I started to see her become lethargic and need to go potty more and more. She developed diarrhea with blood in her stool and was peeing very frequently.

I took her to the vet and they put her on antibiotics and I explained to the vet about the dog food and the reviews I had seen that all had related symptoms. My vet told me to get rid of Blue Buffalo food and put my dog on her previous food. She said Blue Buffalo had too much protein for my dog...that's what was causing the bloody diarrhea and frequent peeing. Since my beloved pet is on her old food, she is so happy back to her old self and bowels back to normal...no blood.

I know I am fortunate that my baby bounced back, but SHAME on this company for putting my dog in harm's way. Thank goodness my dog was not a statistic and she survived. The following day it seem to subside to only throwing up twice so I figured he just had some type of bug, but by the 27th my dog was lethargic, throwing up again and shaking in pain. We call a vet and they ran test on him and found that his liver and pancreas was shutting down. Once the Vet found out that we were feeding him Blue Buffalo she explained that they were using byproducts in their food and this is what made Brody so sick.

We took him to a Vet hospital down the road (forgot to mention we live in Tn but were in Tx with our kids for the holidays which our time with them was now destroyed) and admit our dog to be treated for Pancreatic and liver failure. 24 hrs later they had him stabilize enough so we could travel back to our own Vet in Tennessee. Still to this day my dog has to be on very expensive RX dog food and is still having health issues, so about $1600.00 and still counting.

I hope this company will be held responsible for all the harm they have cause our beloved pets and pain and suffering they are causing families. On January 17, 2015 we transitioned our 14-month old Shiba Inu to Blue Freedom Adult Dog Food: Lamb Recipe from the Blue Freedom Puppy formula that he had been eating without incident since he was 9-weeks old. Two and a half weeks later on the night of February 4, 2015 he started vomiting and by February 7, 2015 he was diagnosed with profound kidney failure. We put him to sleep the next day, February 8, 2015. The suspected causes are either Leptospirosis bacterial infection (he was not vaccinated against that) or poisoning.

Unfortunately while it only takes one week to show symptoms of Leptospirosis infection it takes four weeks to develop antibodies against it. He simply did not live long enough to develop antibodies so the negative test result is not reliable. As for accidental poisoning I am confident that he did not ingest anything harmful that day such as antifreeze, raisins, rat poison or the usual suspects.

The only other change in his otherwise predictable routine was the switch to a new formula of the Blue Freedom dog food line. Hindsight is always 20/20 but thinking back there were signs of things out of the ordinary. He used to finish his breakfast before lunch and eat his dinner pretty much immediately. After the switch he would not touch his breakfast until after his midday walk and would not always finish his dinner. We thought maybe he did not like the taste of lamb but it's also possible that he was putting off eating as long as possible because something was wrong.

Also there were behavioral changes in the days before the physical symptoms manifested. He started destroying furniture he had previously ignored and began gnawing holes in the wall. He became unusually restless the two mornings prior to his vomiting episode. We thought he was being rambunctious but in hindsight he was agitated. He was feeling sick. This to me points to a gradual poisoning instead of a singular one on the day of symptom onset, which is what the veterinarian is assuming.

I'm trying to get the dog food laboratory tested but even if I figure out how to do that I'll probably never be able to prove it. We didn't request an autopsy nor did we preserve tissue samples for testing. I can't prove that tainted Blue Buffalo Freedom Adult Dog food killed my dog, but I know it.

Bought 2 bags of this very expensive food. Dogs have eaten Iams all of their life but now that they are quite elderly thought that grain-free might help reduce joint pain. When I was mixing to transition them to the new food, they were eating but then when it was more than 2/3 BB, they quit eating it. At this age, not eating could be for any number of reasons. Thinking the kibble might be harder than what they were used to with Iams, I'm now adding chicken broth to soften so they can eat it. They won't touch it without the broth. They've had loose bowels but thought it was due to the transition.

The feedback on this site scares me to death. We've fed and taken care of our two beloved labs very well and it concerns me that this product is made in China. Why are stores stocking this product when there is so much dissatisfaction? We will be returning the unopened bag and throwing out the 1/2 bag that remains. This is over $120 in dog food which sounds like nothing compared to the fear, worry and vet bills this product is causing pet owners. Back to Iams Mature we go. Should have never changed!!

They seemed fine for the first 3 weeks then the youngest started losing her appetite and vomiting constantly. Then a 2nd cat started vomiting and refuses to eat the food. I switched food for 2 days, the problem stopped. I gave them this food again, problems returned. l switched to wellness brand, prob. solved. Problem is from canned and dry foods. I'll never buy again chicken grain free dry/various canned. These cats never vomited anything more than an occasional hairball prior to eating this food. Ever!!

My wife did a lot of research to find our pet a healthy dog food. About 4 months ago we made the switch to blue buffalo, I am sorry we did it now. Our Holly almost died last night. We just started a new bag we bought the other day and after she ate last night it started. She went outside for a while in our yard after supper as she always does, no sooner did she come in. My daughter found her throwing up and there was runny stool everywhere. Then she collapsed and almost stopped breathing.

Within 2 minutes there was blood pouring from her behind. We rushed her to the vets and when we told them what we fed her he said that could be it. $1200 later in tests, there is no signs of cancer, parvo or failure of any organ but a lot of gas in the xray and internal bleeding. I am going to the store where I purchased this and lodging a complaint. I can see you have many people mad at you and you disgust me. I hope you get what you deserve when your maker calls.

We have two cats and two dogs. The dogs have been on Instinct's Nature's Variety with great success. My cats had been on blue buffalo for some time when my older cat developed diabetes. She was diagnosed when she stopped eating prompting a trip to the vet. It was imperative she started eating so she could receive her insulin and the only thing she would eat was friskies wet food. Once her diabetes was under control we eventually switched back to leaving blue buffalo out during the day and using a little wet food in the mornings and evenings for giving her insulin (she would not eat any of the prescription food either). This was the end of last year. Shortly after switching back she started defacating outside of the litter box and has been having bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. I didn't think anything of it since only one cat was sick, but then noticed the other cat avoids the blue buffalo and mostly eats the wet food.

On top of that, recently the dogs have gotten to the cats food a few times and have been vomiting afterwards as well, something that is extremely rare for them, and so it prompted me to search if there was a recall on the blue buffalo cat food. I don't know without a doubt it is blue buffalo, but I know it is enough of a reason for me to suspect the food after seeing so many other reported problems. I am definitely making the switch, and I only hope the rash of complaints will at least raise enough concern for an investigation.

I switched my 1.5 year old yellow labrador, Payton, to Blue Buffalo Wilderness in September of 2014. He was doing great on it. On Jan 17th 2015, Payton came down with horrible diarrhea. Our Vet did stool testing for bacteria and parasites - nothing found. Coincidentally, he had started a new bag of BBW on Jan 9th. So, we put him on a bland diet of rice and boiled turkey. He almost instantly recovered. Then we slowly transitioned him back onto BBW last week. His stools have become more and more loose as we increased BBW back into his diet.

As of today, he is back to having bad diarrhea. I work from home so he is not getting into anything and I take him outside when he has go. I decided to do some research into BBW and see if there was any recalls. This site immediately came up and I am horrified to read what has happened to other dogs and cats. I am pulling him off the BBW food and going to try Merrick or Canidae or put him back on Nutro.

I would not recommend this pet food to any pet owner, dog or cat. This company claims to provide a natural evolutionary diet, but it is anything but natural. The company adds caramel to their food, most likely to darken those little brown lifesource bits. For anyone who does not know, caramel is caramel color, thus 4 MEI. I sent an email to the company asking how much 4 MEI was in a 1 cup serving of pet food, and they did not know. The company assured me that the levels of 4 MEI were low, but they did not know an exact number. 4 MEI occurs during the browning of food, which can happen when pet food is made. This company adds additional caramel color to please the consumer only, as caramel color has no taste or nutritional value.

Consumers who buy any cat or dog food from any one of the company's lines is doing so because they want to give their pet the best, not feed their pet carcinogens like 4 MEI. No animal will normally encounter caramel color in their natural diet. This company does not care about pets.

The company’s website does not list caramel as an additive to their pet foods under list of ingredients. A consumer would have to read the product label to find caramel listed as an ingredient. If the additive is no big deal, then why is this ingredient not listed on the Blue Buffalo website? Probably because the company knows people would not buy the product if they understood what they were actually feeding their pets.

I purchased this pet food for my cat, because I was not certain that the ingredient was actually caramel color, since it was listed as caramel. My poor cat got so constipated on the Blue Buffalo food, that he was heading for megacolon, and eventually refused to eat it. The food itself is not really good for pets. Even if the caramel color was removed from the food, the food is still not that great or healthy. I bought some orijens and now my cat is doing much better, and has his appetite back. For anyone who loves their pet, please do your research on pet food, because most pet food companies could care less about what they put in your pet, just like most human food companies could care less what they put in us. For most companies, it is all about pretty product, addictive taste and pretty packaging so we will buy it more, not health.

Love your pets, cause no one else may care enough to keep them well if you do not.

Reading what all these other people wrote-- about their dogs and cats having diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy-- some going into liver and kidney failure, some Precious Babies losing their lives-- well I am just in tears, and also SO extremely scared for my two babies-- and at the same time, I AM DISGUSTED WITH THE BLUE BUFFALO COMPANY, *KNOWING* this is happening, and keeping their products out there anyway!!!

Well I am just SICK... and I am TERRIFIED for the well-being of my two babies... I will be bringing them both to the vet this morning, I will be returning all Blue products to PetSmart, and I will be TELLING PetSmart about this website, and about how they need to PULL BLUE FROM THEIR SHELVES-- NOW.. My son's pit bull has been eating blue buffalo for a couple of years and has been fine, then about 2 months ago he started having diarrhea and vomiting in the house. I would wake up and there would be diarrhea on the carpet and also some vomit so I took him to the vet. They would put him on an antibiotic, a probiotic and a vile of this brown liquid to give to him as soon as we got home. So I gave him a bland diet of boiled chicken, he won't eat rice for a few days and he got better. Then I put him back on the blue buffalo and it started again so for a second time the vet put him on the meds again and I gave him boiled chicken and science diet RD Gastrointestinal Health. He got better again so we thought maybe he got into something.

Then I put him back on blue buffalo for the third time and he got diarrhea again so the vet put him back on the meds and another bland diet of boiled chicken and the RD food and LUCKILY I decided to keep him on the Rd food and he has been fine - no more diarrhea or vomiting. The vet thought maybe he was just getting a sensitive stomach since he is 7 years old, if he started the diarrhea again the vet was going to do a bunch of tests on him. Thank God my daughter in law saw this about the blue buffalo and called me. I am totally disgusted. I thought blue buffalo was the best food out there and reading about other animals having the same problems as our dog and worse - some animals have died. Why has the company not put a recall on their dog and cat food? How many more animals have to get sick or die from this food. I think they don't want to lose all the money they are making from selling this bad food. DON'T BUY BLUE BUFFALO.

I have been feeding my dog Blue Buffalo wilderness chicken for many years. Starting this fall she began leaving her bowl without touching the food. I tried dressing up the kibble with yogurt, and convincing her to eat it. She was definitely hungry but not wanting to eat the food in the bowl. I chalked it up to being picky in her older age. She began to have diarrhea and no amount of add-ons to her kibble was working. I wanted to check out other food options for her since she obviously wasn't interested in Blue Buffalo anymore when I came across this site.

I immediately stopped feeding her Blue Buffalo. Her appetite was still ok at this point. Around the end of December she stopped eating rice and chicken and was weak so I took her in to the vet where her kidney function was found to be insufficient and her liver enlarged. She had to be euthanized mid January. This site leaves me wondering if I was slowly poisoning my dog with food that she didn't want to eat.

Yesterday we had to take our boy cat to the vet because he had crystals in his bladder. After $500 of vet bills and medications, we went home and hoped he would urinate... but he couldn't. We spent a very painful night with him becoming more and more lethargic, drooling continuously, not eating or drinking and becoming more and more vacant in expression. This morning we rushed him back to the vet so that they could catheterize him and put him on an intra venial re-hydration. I was informed by the Vet that he had crystals in his bladder and a significant amount of blood.

At this point we are putting ourselves into debt with an additional vet bill that will be a minimum of $1,200.00. I'm terrified that I may lose my little furry son. I can't have children, so he's all I have. I can't believe that this company hasn't been sued! Why are they still allowed to sell this poison?! $60 of food.... may cost me the life of my furry son. I do not have the receipts but I can get verification from PetSmart of my purchases and from my bank.

Took him to the Vet and he said that he had a bad bacterial infection and gave him and him antibiotics which seemed to help until we gave him this damn food again not realizing it was the issue.

Our dog (Golden Retriever) has lost about 7 pounds but at least we now have a course of action on what needs to be done to get him back to normal. Step one, taken off blue Buffalo dog food. Step two, make him realize that it's safe and they won't get sick anymore. Step three, get his weight back to what it normally is. Step four, get the smiling happy dog that we've always had. We started feeding our cats Blue Buffalo canned cat foods about a month or two ago. We changed over from Natural Balance because we thought it was a better quality brand. Boy, were ever wrong!! After switching to Blue Buffalo one of our cats, a Maine Coon who is three years old, developed litter box problems where he was straining to poop with little or nothing coming out. At first, we thought he may be constipated or have a large hairball, so we gave him Laxatone, which did absolutely nothing. Despite him eating, he was rapidly losing weight. I took him to the vet where they ran their battery of tests - blood work, urinalysis and a stool sample when he was able to get something out. All tests came back normal, but he was still having trouble in the litter box and when something did finally come out, it was watery diarrhea. He continued to lose weight and the vet suggested an x-ray and ultrasound.

The results came back with an enlarged lymph node in his belly and an extremely inflamed digestive tract. My neighbors, who have dogs, had told me that they stopped feeding the dogs Blue Buffalo because they heard of problems with Blue Buffalo. When I Googled for information on the matter, I came upon this website. I am stunned by the number of similar complaints with the GI tract. I have since switched my cats back to Natural Balance and my Maine Coon has seemed to become more lively and I am keeping an eye on his litter box activities. This morning it looked like there were some solids in there. I will never feed them this food again. My cat's problems all started when I switched to this brand!

I have read many reviews where owners are lashing out at the Blue Buffalo Pet Food company for associating their pets reaction solely to the "switch" from previously used pet food to the BB pet food. I really hope that most people that read these posts are not blind to catch very simple problems with these very amateur and emotional reactionary attacks. Dogs especially require a transition to a new food. Any sudden change will almost always cause a reaction of diarrhea or constipation, and it is always recommended that owners keep a portion of the old food to blend with any introduced food for a period of at least a few days to a week. Most veterinarians will tell you a mixture of approximately 25% old to new is fine, but if you could 50-50 blend then slowly ween back the old food until you are feeding 100% new is best - especially if already unhealthy.

Unlike humans where we would need to instantly change to a healthy diet or IV of vitamins to start seeing great results, a sudden change of a familiar food source could even cause anxiety in a time of an already weakened immune system. Good breeders often will package outgoing pups with a bag of what they've been eating to allow you a smoother transitional process, just as they required the colostrum from their mother's milk, but slowly were weened "transitionally" to a dry food before being sent to their forever homes. A few years ago when one our pups was young, we noticed it had a lack of appetite so we tried to transition to a few dog foods that I will refrain from mentioning. After noticing some lower energy levels and diarrhea from a couple of them after about a week or so, we decided to try the Blue food.

After the transition, we noticed a more alert, energetic dog with a puppy-like appetite and have been very happy with the food ever since. When the dog grew out of the puppy stage we had to transition to an adult food for large breeds, we moved to the Rocky Mountain Red Meat and our dogs love it. I would not say that Blue is the only food I would ever pick, as there are multiple 5-star foods out there, but once we found it and it worked for us, we have continued to feed our new pups the Blue food with great success. One extra thing I would add is that you should all be looking for a food company that provides food for your type of dog in the stage of life that it is in. If your dog will grow to be larger than 50 lbs., you should feed it large breed food from the beginning to the end and transition from large breed puppy food to large breed adult food and then on to large breed senior food.

This ensures things like extra glucosamine for joints for larger dogs, more fat in their diet for pups vs. adults who want to keep fit to avoid hip dysplasia and the like as they age. We do want the grain-free concept that BB foods offer, but also think about those all-stages foods from some companies that have great ingredients. Would you feed your toddler the same diet as your grandfather, or yourself, or your teenager? Somethings just make plain sense if you just realize pets aren't that much different than us except they used to be wild. If your pup was in the wild, he might dig up a potato, but he probably wouldn't grab an ear of corn from a stalk and let it dry out in the sun and start chomping on it (although for the most parts dogs will eat anything). Thank you for taking the time to read this.

We rescued our dog from xl dogs resue, an awesome organization as far as I'm concerned. They had been feeding bear blue buffalo rocky mountain wilderness formula. They mention he had some stomach issues and recommended we stick with that or switch very slowly. Not wanting to upset his stomach we stayed with the same food. We slowly added blue buffalo wilderness beef stew to his dry food to help with his acid reflux (as diagnosed per our vet). By early November 2014 we had him eating the 1500 kcals he needed to be a healthy 78lb dog. Keep in mind all blue wilderness even his treats. Around thanksgiving he began with severe diarrhea and his acid reflux was back and worse. We continued with blue. Sure it couldn't be that.

After the 3rd time in 5 weeks we had to do the chicken and rice trick to get his stomach better. We switched food brands. We chose Orijen regional red for his dry source and Merrick Texas steak tips dinner for his wet food (both are still grain free). We spent a little over 2 weeks transitioning, but by the middle of the first week we already saw a change in his stools as well as activity levels. He has been fully switched over for 10 days now and now can't wait to eat, his bowls run on an easy to manage schedule, and he has had no issues for the 1st time since we got him in August 2014.

Please all pet owners do yourselves a favor. Open a can of blue buffalo wilderness beef stew and open a can of merrick and you will see and smell the difference. My wife and I both work in the construction business and are not aligned with any pet food makers as some would want you to believe. I can not stress enough how much healthier he is. I'm sure our vet will miss seeing him every other week (I will not miss the bills) but 'm sure she is as happy as we are that he is doing well. I hope this helps at least 1 other dog and his parents find a better food. Thank you for caring enough about your pet to read this.

I thought I was doing a good thing for my dogs when I started buying Blue Wilderness Salmon Adult Dog Food months ago. Instead, my six year old Corgi became so sluggish, all he did is retreat to his crate. Worse, however, was my 16 year old Cairn Terrier's reaction when he simply would not eat the food. I couldn't believe my eyes because he has never refused food before. Not only did he refuse it, but he kept pushing the bowl with his nose trying to turn the bowl over. At first I thought he was getting senile and wanted to eat it off the floor, so after a bit, I turned the bowl over, but he just walked away. I gave him some biscuits and veggies, but he was not getting the nutrients he needed, so I took him to the vet. His blood work was fine, his X-rays showed some arthritis which is common, and he has a slight heart murmur but nothing to explain the refusal to eat.

Oddly, his stomach and intestine were full. The vet suggested I get another bag of food thinking I may have gotten a "bad" bag! Shortly afterward, I gave him a handful of Charlie Bears (liver and flour) and a handful of my pup's Blue Wilderness puppy food chicken, and the 16 year old Cairn ate both. So at this point I am highly suspicious of the Wilderness Adult Salmon variety, though after reading about all of the other problems people have had with Blue and Blue Wilderness foods, I plan to switch the dogs and cats ASAP to another brand. The vet bill was some $500!

I had always heard that BB was a good choice for dogs, so I decided to switch over from his previous food.. I have a blue nose pit that is a year and a half old, he was healthy and happy before using BB. After 5 weeks on the BB chicken recipe, I began seeing changes in my dog.. His poop was seldom hard and he had awful gas all the time, he lost 8 lbs and was sleeping more than usual. It wasn’t until I noticed blood in his stools that realized that something was seriously wrong.

I took him to the vet and spent over 500.00 on tests to find out what the problem was. Unfortunately, all the tests showed nothing wrong. Before they did the tests, they asked me what I fed my dog, I told them BB chicken recipe, but for some reason it was not noted in the vets paperwork on him... Once I told the vet what I was feeding him he was certain that was the problem.

To make it short, after 6 days off the BB chicken recipe my dog is doing much much better... No gas, stools are normal, no blood etc. It’s too soon to see if he gains his weight back, but I’m betting that he will. My neighbor who recommended this food also stopped using it, his dog was having similar issues and refused to eat BB. He claimed that his dog had no energy and started pooping in the house. He also saw better results after he stopped using BB. So, if anyone reading this has any doubt about BB causing issues with their dog, you might want to think again before you continue using it..

Once she started to eat the food from the new bag she started to have terrible gas, within a few days, diarrhea began. That has been several weeks, I have given her antibiotics, did the rice diet. But she is still going very soft and then the gas comes back. That is why I decided to research the dog food. It makes me sick to think that bb could be the cause of her sickness.

I have been using Blue Buffalo brand dog food for over 2 years now. Up until December it was fine. This last bag I bought in January did not seem right. In fact our 8-year-old Chiweenie acted like she didn't like it anymore and just recently would go over and smell it and walk away. Yesterday I actually smelled it up close and it has a very unpleasant odor of feces and almost made me sick. It was the Freedom Chicken brand for smaller breeds. She is part Chihuahua/miniature Dachshund. I threw it away and fixed her a dish of regular cooked chicken and rice and she ate that.

I did some research and went and bought a 5 lb. bag of Canidae grain free kibble with lamb and gave her a small amount of it. She usually only gets a 1/4 cup twice a day as she only weighs about 8 lbs. She ate it without hesitation, so will see how she does today with it. I have read various complaints about Blue Buffalo the past couple days and how sick some dogs have become. So something has changed there. I will not buy it again and have warned other people also to be aware of the new shipments of it and to actually smell it before giving to their dogs.

Blue Wilderness - My perfectly healthy 1 year old cat died from this food. December 23 he started peeing on furniture (which he never did before). I noticed blood in his urine, took him to vet and they put him on antibiotics thinking it was a UTI, 5 days later he seemed better. New Year's Eve noticed him doing it again, but this time crying while peeing and seemed very lethargic all day. So being New Year's Eve I have to bring him to ER vet. Turns out he has a blocked urethra from his bladder being filled with crystals. They tried to unblock him but he kept re-blocking.

New Year's Day I go back to check on him at ER vet, he was profusely drooling and in a coma!!!!!!!! His kidneys ended up shutting down from him being blocked, had low oxygen levels (and he was in a oxygen tank) and catheter bag was now filling with blood. Had no choice but to put my sweet 1 year old boy to sleep. And it was all from switching him to this food on December 15! If you love your pets do not give them this food! I wish I had seen all these horrible reviews before I gave him this brand!

Come to find out after feeding her the Wilderness blend, that like a lot of German Shepherds, she has a sensitive stomach. I switched to the Blue Buffalo basic formula and she had no problems for months. I would switch flavors now and then but no issues. However I purchased a bag of the Salmon & Potato Recipe right before Christmas 2014 and within a week she had the worst case of diarrhea she has ever had in her life. She also was vomiting. I took her to my vet and they gave her an IV and some antibiotics as well as a Rice and Chicken blend of soft dog food. I also switched her back to the Large Breed Basic formula and seems to have no issues. This was a scare for me and dealing with her sensitive issues in the past, I have no doubt it was that formula that brought on her ailment.

They're positive it's diet related and gave us a special dog food to keep the pH levels down. We also scheduled surgery to have them removed which is going to run $1300. So I put a spider plant down for her to nibble on to help her pass whatever was in her belly. The vomiting began to happen more than once a day. Yesterday I looked around with more detail and I noticed little dried vomit all over the place. One spot looked projectile. In the last day or so she must have thrown up 10 times. It looks just like the dry food I give. I feel horrible. My other cats do not have that reaction. I am so glad I have seen these posts with similar complaints. This food is terrible and so expensive for a product that is obviously too strong for a lot of animals. My 7 yr old pug Jack has been a happy and incredibly healthy dog UNTIL I switched him to this horrendous food. I started BB about 8 months ago. 2 months later he had a seizure... One of the WORST things to experience. We found him passed out in his own vomit. We picked him up and he just fell over... Like he was dead. He then lost control of his bladder. We rushed him to the emergency vet. The whole way there my husband was holding him and trying to keep him awake.

After about 2 hours it seemed he had bounced back. The vet attributed it to his Vagus vein? Said it's rare but that he should be fine. He wasn't... Drooling to the point that he would be sopping wet under his chin to his chest! Since then he just wasn't himself. Periodically he would start to act "drunk"- fall over, moving very slowly, lethargic, drinking a TON of water and just not himself. About 3 weeks ago another seizure... Another 300$ trip to the emergency vet...this one said it could be geriatric epilepsy? Or a brain tumor? The only way to be sure was to get a 2,500$ MRI. I have been so worried.

I contacted the breeder I got him from (who's a friend) and asked her if any of his siblings or mom or dad had any history of seizures... Nothing. In fact Mom’s 11 and Dad’s 14... Doing great. None of them had any kind of seizures. So I decided to do some research and I came across this site! I cannot believe what I'm reading. I NEVER occurred to me that it was his food since it’s "the best". That was about a week ago. Since then I have changed his food and we've had 100% improvement!!!! I have my buddy back!!!! Now if I can just get over the guilt of knowing I did this to him.... SHAME ON YOU BLUE BUFFALO.

We decided to not give them BB kibbles for a day and fed them boiled chicken and they did better for that day but as soon as we went back to the kibbles the symptoms came back. That's when we really started looking it up online and found hundreds of other people going through the same thing with the recent bags of BB. And after more digging there are articles out saying that they're not really 'Made in the USA', they may have ingredients from other countries. As a consumer that spends more to get higher quality food, I don't appreciate being lied to about what I'm getting.

The second I walked into the house she was greeting me, throwing up, not eating or drinking. Before I knew it I had her at two vet offices who told me she would be ok, thought it was some intestine disease and gave her some prescriptions for us to take home.

After 2-3 days she took a turn downward. I had to rush her to a 24 hour vet hospital at 10:00 at night, she was treated there for a week until there was nothing left to do. Myself and the vets did all we could to try and save her. Still with no answers of how a healthy 3-year old indoor cat passes away has been driving me crazy, until I found similar cases. I would like to know how this is being handled and why there are so many cases out there still going on. How is this food still being sold? I would like an explanation. I spent over 5,000.00 I didn't have, and still months later paying off the debt. We got our chocolate lab puppy at 7 weeks old and Blue Buffalo Puppy food was recommended as a great brand. After feeding our little guy this for two months, he was still having horrible diarrhea, eventually containing blood in it, thus leading us to take an emergency trip to our vet. When asked what we were feeding him and upon revealing it was BB, our vet mentioned that she had seen many puppies who had been getting sick from the BB brand. She recommended immediately switching brands (suggesting the Science Diet). Upon doing so, we quickly noticed that this solved the diarrhea problem. However, yesterday we were running low on his Science Diet Food and Petsmart was already closed, so we decided to mix in a little of our leftover BB to give him the right serving amount (we put about a half of a cup of BB in with his other food).

We woke up at about 6am to our puppy gagging and dry-heaving, and eventually vomiting. He ended up throwing up about 3-4 times within 5 hours and has started having horrible diarrhea again. This led me to do some online research on the BB brand and discovered these awful reviews. We will never give him this brand again and advise anyone else to avoid doing so as well!!

Back to the vet we go. More xrays and blood work. Still thickening of the stomach and everything else looks great. Blood work is great. So Vet thinks it is his valve in his throat that opens and his food comes back up. Started him on medication for that. Been 2 days on it and while it won't show improvement really yet he still has vomited what he has eaten. Including water.

I have been feeding my two Australian Shepherds Blue Buffalo since the day I brought them home. They are now two years old. I have notices a lot of diarrhea and also blood in their (or one of theirs) stools on several different occasions. At first I thought like most people would that they must have gotten into something but I have nothing down low for them to get into and I thoroughly checked my garage where their beds are and found nothing out of the ordinary. I do not give them people food so that ruled that out.

I took them off blue for two week and they didn't seem to have the diarrhea anymore. Their stool was as it should be so it made me wonder what was going on.

My dogs are wired and always ready to go but there has also been times when they seemed lethargic and that made absolutely no sense. After the two weeks I started easing them back on to the Blue Buffalo food and once they were back on it they started with the diarrhea.

I have five bags of Blue Buffalo sitting on account at my local pet store and have now changed everything over to Nutri Source. I have had absolutely no problems at all. (It is made in the USA.) Anything I give my dogs needs to be made in the USA or I don't buy it. I will also be switching my cat food just to be on the safe side as it is Blue Buffalo brand too. As with millions of people my dogs are like my family and I want them around for as long as I can have them. To lose one to a dog food problem or accrue vet bills because of it is not acceptable.

Blue is made in the USA but it is my understanding that it is now being out-sourced to China. That could be the problem. I am disappointed in the product after purchasing it for four dogs. Purchased for my two big dogs and my daughter's two small dogs. It is sad that you trust in something that is made in the USA only to find out there is problems with it and it has affected many many people.

We are stationed in the UK and our BX started carrying BB recently. We transitioned him (tried) with a mix of NuTru/BB but he only picked out the new BB and seemed to love it. We went on a trip about a week or so later and sent Kobe to the kennel. We came home and the kennel said he was having bad diarrhea which was unlike Kobe, so they took him off the food and fed him their brand and he was fine.

I thought it was because we transitioned him too quickly so we tried again. Kobe got pretty sick the other night - fever and lethargic plus loose stools. He didn't eat for a day and when he got up the next morning was feeling better. Last night he seemed back to himself and ate his food (BB) and we went to bed. This morning he has been soooo sick - fever, shakes, lethargic, no interest in eating. I did get him to drink some water. I immediately started researching reviews on BB and have read non-stop scary happenings.

I got my Shih Tzu in Sept. She was 12 weeks old, and she was on a high quality puppy food that isn't available where I live. So in my search to find her a compatible food I got blue buffalo puppy dry dog food. Since she was brand new to me I wasn't sure if the bloody stools were from a switch in food, a switch in home, or the loss of her family so quickly. So we waited for a couple of weeks and when it was time to take her back for her shots the vet took a sample for testing and couldn't find anything. A few weeks later it got worse, not satisfied with the vet I took her to another vet with an entire sample. Again she was tested and nothing was found. The vet put her on a treatment for coccacidia, which helped slightly and told us to try switching from puppy food to the sensitive formula. That hasn't helped.

About a month ago she’s swollen a sharp object that had to be surgically removed (she's a brave one, right). Her vet gave us the hills diet soft canned food for a week and Cookies stool was instantly better. Thinking it was the soft versus dry I got some softer foods to mix with her regular BB. But again her stools started to become loose. During this entire time she would wake up every 2-3 hours a night to go outside. We've had to have the carpets cleaned. It's been...gross. Finally it occurred to me to look at the food and read reviews. All the reviews I found sounded just like Cookie. So I bought the hills science dry dog food about 3 days ago. I didn't switch her slowly because she wasn't really eating the BB anyway. She is a completely different puppy. She's more energetic; she's sleeping through the night. We've had 0 accidents and totally solid dumps. Never thought I'd be happy to see doggy poo. DO NOT USE BLUE BUFFALO!

Let me start with saying, I NEVER change my dog's food unless it's going from Puppy to Adult within the same brand. I'd never had dogs have an actual issue with any dog food before, until I got my new rescue back in February 2014. Milo, who's a lab/coonhound mix. We got him and he had been on the streets for a while, and was severely underweight. When we got him he was about 63 lbs and needed to be around 85, and top out at 100 by the end of the year for a healthy weight. We took him to the vet, as per my Rescue Shelter ordered, and he had the obvious issues of not eating healthy at all and so he had loose stool and stomach upset. Not a big deal.

We tried Blue Buffalo out and he reacted terribly. He couldn't stop going outside in the middle of the night, and we attributed that to being new and not being quite so house-trained. Then when this continued a week after we got him, he was still gassy with loose stool, so we decided to switch up his food. He was on that for a LONG time (all the while throughout the year, we found out he had a food allergy to chicken) until about two weeks ago (right around New Year's), and coaxing him into eating was a struggle. My vet said he's probably being picky and wants a new food brand, fair enough because he was in perfect health and I couldn't keep giving him sugar-filled yogurt to make him eat his dog food.

So I decided BB might be a good alternative, again, attributing his previous upset to his allergy to chicken. So instead I got Lamb and Brown Rice. He finally ate, thank goodness, and not even a few hours later, he's drinking more water, having terrible gas, and looking miserable. Now he's having loose stool and I can't switch him back for another week on my next check. This is incredibly RIDICULOUS. How can a brand of food not care about what they're putting into our pets? I guarantee if anyone at this company has a pet, they aren't feeding them BB. Wish I'd known sooner and now reading the reviews and learning they've outsourced to China. All in all will NEVER buy this brand again.

I adopted a dog several years ago from a shelter. I have been feeding him only Blue Buffalo. Several months ago he developed chronic diarrhea and had a continually rumbling stomach & gas. After trips to the vet, medicines that didn't completely solve the problem, and a bland diet that would work only until he got his regular food again, 2 weeks ago I changed his food and threw away all of the BB (I am serving Darwin now). He has had no more problems. I doubt if the new food is a miracle, I think BB was making him sick.

WARNING: My dog recently became ill after eating Blue Buffalo Dog Food. She is a 8-year-old Standard Poodle. She has been on Blue for a year without incident. On December 26th, I purchased a new bag of Blue Buffalo. She became ill, started throwing up, panting heavily (over 90 times per minute). A trip to the Emergency ER showed a dog is distress. They gave her something to calm her down but it didn't work. Blood work came back negative. X-Rays showed an inflamed digestive system. Stool samples came back negative for worms, parasites. We immediately took her off of everything. We are gradually introducing chicken. I still have the bags of food and want to get them tested. Can anyone recommend some place I can send? The dog did NOT digest anything except Blue Buffalo during this time. I am concerned that the food is tainted. I have filed a complaint with Blue Buffalo but have not heard back from them.

We had our year old German Shepherd on Blue Buffalo grain free for 6 months. She seemed fine at first, liked the food and her coat looked great. Then her breath got unbearable, it was worse than anything we had dealt with. She is young, healthy, great teeth so no mouth related issues. Then last week, she was so sick, couldn't keep anything down, not even a lick of water. We brought her to our vet, they did X-Rays that showed her intestines so swollen, they sent us to the emergency vet because they thought she had something blocking her intestine. The emergency vet did an ultrasound to plan for the surgery. They found in fact she had not swallowed anything but that she was so swollen with gas that she had an infection. $1200 later it was suggested we take her off BB right away, her breath is already better, and we are slowly introducing her to a new kibble!

We lost our It. greyhound Carmella July 2014, she was 16 years. She died of old age and complications. She was a rescue and much loved. In August we adopted another little It. greyhound rescue, Tara. Age 5. Third week into October we changed her food over to Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula. Things started out okay but went downhill. Thinking she was being picky and just not eating, we tried adding broth to her food. That seemed to help but matters still went downhill. Tara had bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. I changed her over to a boiled hamburger and rice diet. I called the vet and Tara was given Cerenia for the vomiting.

Nov. 3 Marengo Vet - Taken to vet w/ vomiting. Penicillin given, sub q fluids, meds, lab work. Blood work checked, lepto checked for, everything negative. Nov. 3 p.m. Back to vet for x-rays, barium study, looking for blockage, foreign body.. Nov. 4 Barium study showed no blockage, no foreign body. Nov. 6 Tara doing better. Called her foster parents group - no prior stomach issues with them or previous owner. CONTACTED BLUE BUFFALO. Asked if there was any problem with this food. Was told no. No recall? No. Any GMOs in it? No. What quality chicken is in it? Couldn't say it was human grade chicken (or close to that) but it was quality chicken... The woman took the lot number, exp. date and the rest of the information they needed. Told her why I needed to know.

Tara was kept on hamburger and rice for awhile and because there was no reason not to believe this woman she was put back on Blue Buffalo food. Repeat of vomiting and diarrhea, sleeping a lot. Fast forward to Thanksgiving. There is just way too much information to put in here and I'm tired of it. Nov. 27 Tara taken to ER Vet vomiting, diarrhea, sleeping. I was worried she was getting dehydrated and we took her in. While there she threw up Two times a gold, very foul smelling vomit, and then the blood. She was in my arms when she threw the blood up and it hit the floor, white mucus was stuck on my sweater. She had radiographs, cPLSnap Test IV Fluids, Comprehensive Chem, CBC, Electrolytes...

Came Home From the ER Veterinarian Hospital And Googled Blue Buffalo Dog Food and Digestive Problems and right there in front of me was the truth. The Dirt. The lie that could have taken the life of my dog. The lie that has consumed three months of my disability checks that I don't have. The ER hospital doesn't have a payment plan. Because I am disabled all these bills had to go on plastic. $3400 plus in debt because of a cover up. The next day was not any better when I had to take her for an ultrasound in a different town with a different vet. When asked what I thought was the problem and I stated the food, I was told that

I couldn't possibly know that. Twice I was told this. I finally said send the report to my vet and left.

Dec 1 Vet. Dec 3 Vet. Dec. 4 Endoscopy Inflammation in stomach poss. IBD Holding off of steroids... Tara is doing better. She still has off days and she is still seeing a vet. She is seeing a holistic vet in McHenry, eating a special pureed home cooked diet and is still being checked on by a vet from the ER animal hospital. January 8th Tara is in bed, she hasn't eaten yet today. Her stomach is making noises. I don't know what the future holds. I am so sorry for all the people out there who have lost their very, very much loved cats and dogs, kittens and puppies. There is nothing closer to us on this earth than our pets... I would really like to believe this was just an honest mistake, an oversight perhaps, but it wasn't. It was "business" from what I read on the Wilbur-Ellis report. It was not telling me what I needed to know when I called looking for help when my dog became ill.

How does one go home and go to sleep at night knowing the information they are giving out is going to cause harm? And to find out tonight that BB is now made in China? Mars is going to buy out Blue Buffalo? For me and my dog it's home cooking. I wouldn't trust another pet food company unless I could walk in their kitchen. There was just a pet food study done by Truth about Pet Food. It was paid for by consumers and pulled off the internet. There was a woman who tried to trash it. I know why. Let's see if my comment on this remains. Last remark? Where is our FDA?

My 16-year old dog was diagnosed with kidney failure and died two days later. The more I thought about it I started investigating Blue Buffalo dog food. Its main ingredient is Chicken and one post said that they source their chicken from China. I do not know if this is true as I am still investigating but if it is true I know now what caused her kidney failure. Emily was eating Blue Buffalo for years but this last batch she just wouldn't eat and I'm not sure if it was because she knew it was bad or because of the kidney issue. I should have listened to her.

My cats have quit eating it too. I mix Science Diet Hair Ball with Blue Buffalo and they now only eat the Science Diet and spit out the BB. I've also read where BB was acquired by Mars so maybe Mars decided to source to China?? I thought that changing her food to BB because real chicken was the main ingredient was a good thing. It seems we have to be constantly monitoring the company's source and if our pets turn their nose to it all of a sudden - we should listen.

She has also been vomiting and urinating in the house prior to Proin. My male age 10 has always been very healthy and blood work done every 6 to 8 months. Before Christmas he started urinating while sleeping and drinking bowls of water. Had urine test, his protein was high also Crystals in the sample, he is now on antibiotics. He has also been lethargic, which he never was.

It was a massive mistake and expensive one changing their diet, they are back on Royal Canin! Blue buffalo needs to have recall on ALL their food, and look in to reimbursing customers with valid complaints if their pets were healthy prior, mine were. I am going to take my 3 yr. female off Proin in about a month from now, to see if BB was the cause! Will update at that time.

I am dog sitting 2 beautiful Rottweilers while their father is away for 10 months in the Navy. Izzie was 6 years old and stopped eating her food, throwing up and loose stool as well. I took her to the vet and she had kidney failure. We tried IVs and boiled chicken. My vet thought flushing her system may help, nothing did. She passed away at 6 years old from Kidney failure. Her food was Blue B as well as all her treats (chicken-Orange bag). One week before Thanksgiving we had to let her go. Her companion survived because he was 80 lbs heavier than her. He had loose stool also and didn't really like eating this last bag of food. I switched to a Canadian Company that I trust with my animals. Their father believes in the USA that's why he's in the Navy and he trusted this company that they were honest and actually making good dog food. The vet gave meds and told us to give them a chicken & rice diet. They started to get better in which the vet had us slowly add the kibble back in with the chicken & rice. We went through this several times buts the dogs still got sick as we added the food back in. Finally we took them off. At the time they were starting to get sick, we were also giving them treats from Canyon Creek sold at PetSmart which were recalled and totally taken off the shelves for good and never came back. The reviews on both Blue Buffalo and these treats are horrific. Dogs becoming very sick and some even dying.

One of my dogs has been sick on and off and right now we are at a good point where she hasn't had any diarrhea in a while but she is itchy a lot so she will have to eventually go back to the vet. My other dog is a Great Pyrenees, he at one point was at 120lbs. He is now down to 95lbs and is in bad shape. He's had two separate blood tests and everything seems ok ($600 later) and now we have him scheduled for an ultrasound in hopes they can find out what is going on. We are dumbfounded that both of our dogs still have problems. It's been almost 2 years since they were on Blue and we can't believe they are still having problems. I decided to change my dogs diet to Blue Buffalo about 3 weeks ago as I do not want to feed them the same food from the same company just in case it is later found out that a particular food has a problem with it. About a week before Christmas I started giving both my schnauzer mix dogs half blue buffalo and half their regular food. On December 27, we woke up to a huge mess. One of my dogs had thrown-up many times as well as defecated in many areas of the house.

We had to throw out all our rugs and have the couch cleaned. I thought maybe she had gotten into something outside although she is always on a leash and always with me. Perhaps she had ingested something from the holiday? After 24 hours of no food or water she bounced back. I gave her rice and hamburg for a day or so and then returned her to her old food- no blue buffalo. Three days ago I started to reintroduce the Blue Buffalo to the dogs; half their old food half the Blue.

Today, January 8th, I came home to another disaster. Throw-up and feces in many areas of the house. This time my dog is also very quiet. Poor baby. I have no proof it is the Blue Buffalo that made her sick but it sure looks like it is. I would hope that a dog food company who sells their product for the amount Blue Buffalo does would be up front with its consumers. I will never give my dogs this product again.

I was so satisfied, I recommended it to several people looking for a good food for their dog. Then, yesterday I read several of the reviews on this site while trying to find a Blue Buffalo dog treat. What several of these reviews have described is exactly what my dog has been experiencing for the past few weeks. Once a day, he will throw up a small amount of yellowish bile that looks as though he has eaten a raw egg. As I continued reading, I became convinced that the BB food (lamb and brown rice) was the culprit. Most dismaying was reading the review that mentioned that BB food is now made in China. I didn't need to read anything else. I'm done. It may not be important to Blue Buffalo to lose one customer, but I will NOT give this food to my dog any longer. He is changing dog food immediately.

She always seemed to have soft stools but nothing too major. She would have random bouts of diarrhea but I thought it was just something she got into etc. Then last month I bought her a bag of the dry "basics". She did not want to eat it and would turn her nose up to it. Then she started having severe bloody diarrhea. Lots of tests at the vet including checking for parasites, worms, etc. - everything was normal. They put her on a prescription diet (I/D), a probiotic and an antibiotic. She recovered quickly.

One week later I started her back on the BB and all the symptoms came back. She had severe diarrhea and then she also started vomiting yellow bile and foaming at the mouth. I immediately took her off the food and she has not been sick since. I have put her on the I/D prescription diet along with boiled chicken and rice - as after going through all this I am scared of giving her any other dog food. It’s so upsetting especially since I was giving her BB because I was under the impression this was a really good product and want the best for my girl. I switched to a Purina high-protein food, which seemed to keep him full and he got down to a healthy 18 lbs. My husband has had our dog on Blue Buffalo chicken and rice for years and we had always heard it was a high quality, natural ingredient food, and I looked in a high protein food for cats. I switched my cat from Purina to Blue Wilderness chicken formula dry food and he seemed to like it. After about six months, I noticed after picking him up (he is long-haired so I couldn't see it right away) he was lighter. I thought it was because we had introduced a kitten to the house and he was running around playing with the little guy more frequently.

After a couple more months, I noticed he had lost even more weight and his bones were slightly protruding. I took him to the vet and he was just under 14 lbs. The vet ran blood work and found extremely high calcium levels. Everything else was completely normal. He was diagnosed as having 'idiopathic hypercalcemia' which means he has high calcium but they don't really know why. I switched him to Wellness CORE grain-free turkey and duck formula immediately and he began gaining weight back immediately. He has put on two pounds in the past two months since switching foods.

ALSO, our dog began having terrible gas issues the past couple months with occasional vomiting. After reading these reviews, we switched her immediately to the Wellness brand CORE grain-free original formula dog food (which was one of a few recommended via consumersearch.com). No gas since the switch, but it's still pretty recent. Will NEVER purchase Blue Buffalo again!

My husband and I take care of our son's 5 yr old Yellow Lab on a 2 month rotating basis. A year ago, our son changed brands and selected Blue Buffalo Wilderness. 'Harvey' has been eating this brand with no issues until now. Nov 9, my son opened a bag of Rocky Mountain Red Meat flavor, and by Nov 23rd, Harvey was throwing up and salivating profusely. He ate only a small portion of the food for dinner. We gave him chicken broth, and the salivating stopped. Each day, he ate less and less of the food.

We took him to the vet Dec 3, had stool sample tested and blood drawn. All negative. We were given meds to use for 5 days for stomach discomfort from almost daily vomiting. Dec 8, we returned to the vet, as Harvey was losing weight and refusing to eat the food. A stool sample was tested, and blood samples drawn to be sent offsite for testing(KS). Urine sample was taken. He stayed overnight for IV nourishment. Between Dec 3 and Dec 8, he went from 88.5 to 83 lbs. We brought him home Dec 9, and he weighed 83.1. Dec 12, we learned all blood tests were negative. The vet prescribed antibiotics for 21 days, and a steroid. Dec 10, we started Harvey on boiled chicken and rice, and had to hand feed him at first. Gradually, he gained weight, had energy, and was eating full meals of chicken and rice twice a day.

Dec 15, I contacted Blue Buffalo, and they emailed me a 3 page attachment form to fill out. These forms request test results, medical history, vet bills, prescription bills, a report from the vet of a diagnosis or conclusion, specific brand name and flavor, where purchased, when, proof of purchase, BEST IF USED by date and code number. We were able to supply everything but the code number, so I took a picture of the torn section and included it with the documents. The manila envelope went out Dec 18, and was received Dec 23rd (according to tracking form). When I first learned about the postings on Consumer Affairs, it was Dec 10, and there were 843 postings. Now, that number, 3 weeks later, is over 881. We are afraid our son's dog's digestive system has been severely compromised. Our son is due home January 17. We hope and pray that when he takes his dog home and sees the vet, it won't be too late for Harvey to completely recover.

    Updated on 03/14/2015:

In early January, I submitted a summary of my son's dog's decline in health after starting a bag of Blue Buffalo Rocky Mountain Red Meat variety on Nov 9, 2014. Harvey's system was compromised by the dog food. When I contacted BB, I was requested to complete a form and submit medical records, vet charges, etc., and did so. The company received the information packet Dec 23rd. It is March 14, and not a word has been heard from BB. Harvey (Yellow Lab), lost his battle January 13. He was only 5, in the best of health. Because he was in our care while our son was at sea, I can vouch that he only ate BB. He did not wander off the property and have access to chemicals, and was supervised close to 100% of the time. We can trace the time frame to the opening of the dog food bag.

I want every reader of these posts to know, another dog has died after being on a BB diet. Because Harvey had been eating BB for nearly a year, we did not connect the health issues to the food right away. Something has changed with this product. Too many people are writing about similar symptoms, and too many have been regular customers of BB. How can we dog owners band together and be heard?

I fed a small amount - about an 1/8 of a cup to my older cat on Monday, trying to slowly incorporate it into her diet - that same day she threw up twice and by Tuesday she had horrible diarrhea for FIVE days and stopped eating and drinking. Because she has early kidney disease, I took her to the vet worried that it was something to do with her kidneys, and also worried she was going to get dehydrated and further damage her kidneys. We did complete blood work, all which came back normal. I chalked the whole episode up to her being old, but I was still a little wary of the Freedom cat food, since that was the only change in her diet.

Fast forward to yesterday. My husband unknowingly fed our younger - and super healthy and stealthy - cat the same Freedom dry cat food. Within hours of eating it he had thrown up and now he has diarrhea too! I am extremely unhappy about this situation. It is clearly the food that is upsetting their stomachs. I have never seen such violent reactions to cat food before - and I've had many cats in my lifetime. Is there a recall happening? I seriously hope Blue Buffalo takes some action and check out this food. Something is definitely NOT right. This could have potentially killed my older cat, and it has certainly caused her (and me) much distress over the past week. After I bought the second bag of large breed puppy chicken and rice, he started getting watery, mucous like stool. He would cry all night to continue to go outside to have what looked like water come out of him. Took him to the vet and said everything seemed fine he was perfectly healthy. So I bought a different bag of food just to see if it would have a difference. After 3 days he was regular and sleeping through the night. I tried Blue Buffalo one more time thinking maybe it was just a fluke. Two days later, again, with watery, mucous like stool. I threw the rest of the bag out and have not looked back since. He is happy, sleeping through the night, and no longer having any issues with his stomach.

My 1 year old chocolate lab has been very itchy after he eats so I took him in for a checkup. My vet suggested changing his food. I've always fed him Nutro Naturals Lamb and Rice Formula Large Breed. So, I decided to switch to Blue Buffalo Basics Turkey and Sweet Potato. Got home, scooped his dinner directly out of the bag and waited for him to finish. No itching afterwards, which was great, so I dumped the rest of the bag into the food container where I store his food. As I neared the end of the bag, out came a huge ball of mold with bugs crawling all through it. Disgusted! Do not buy Blue Buffalo!

My very active 9-month-old pup suddenly became lethargic and would not eat or drink much for the last few days. We were switching him over to B. Buffalo from his science diet puppy food. I started thinking this morning that his new food was making him sick, and started to do some research and came upon this site. After reading these reviews I am furious and taking him off of Blue Buffalo immediately. I hope and pray no harm has come to him. Why is nothing being done about this food???

These other complaints are telling the same story as mine. My 2 yr old lab has been on BB since he was 8 weeks old. Starting November 2014, he started having loose stool. We figured he probably ate something while playing outside. Then he started waking us up at night to go potty which has NEVER happened before, he has been able to hold his potty all night since he was 12 weeks old. I noticed that he was having loose stool and squat-walking while pottying. It grew worse to where he was having projectile diarrhea.

We switched him to chicken and rice and took him to the vet. The vet put him on a 7 day med regime. We threw out the BB bag and bought a new one, slowly transitioning him back to the BB food. He was fine till the meds lasted. Now we are back to loose stools. I did some research online and found that BB has changed their supplier to China. That itself is a RED FLAG. The sad part is that even after so many complaints, they have not taken any action.

I have 3 yorkies and they are all very healthy as I am a strict dog mom. I fed my girls Royal Canin since they came home to me at 10 weeks of age. Then last year while in PetSmart I had a BB sales person talk me into trying the best food on the market, I was hesitant because I already had a food that worked. But he tells me, “Don't you want to feed your fur-children the best you can?” Of course I do, I wouldn't have 3 dogs if I didn't want the best. So the food I chose was the BB wilderness evolutionary grain free for small breeds, all was good until I bought them a new bag of same food as I was getting low. I opened the bag on Dec 15, 2014 they looked at their good bowl and walked away, hmmm that's odd. Later that day they ate and then next morning all 3 were sick, vomiting and diarrhea. They continued getting sick I pulled the food away and started the 24 hour fast, they were extremely sick for 2 days and I was forced to give them water and Pedialyte by syringe every hour.

Day 3 feeling better, I give them boiled chicken and they keep it down so I give them some of their BBW again. It's only hours before they are all three sick again, same symptoms only now with bloody diarrhea. I rush all 3 to the emergency pet hospital, $1997 later rehydrated dogs show no parasites and liver test come back clear. I get back home with my girls and they are on the mend, I am hand feeding them boiled chicken and they are doing great, so the next morning I go down stairs and check on them, yay no vomit no poops. They are eating boiled chicken and drinking water, life is good, the day ends and I let my girls come back upstairs, only to wake up at 3:00am with all 3 dogs once again vomiting and bloody diarrhea all over the room.

I forgot to remove their bowl of BBW from the upstairs and they ate it. So now without any doubt in my mind or the vet’s mind this dog food is to blame, another vet visit $900 dollars out of pocket and a new bag $37 BBW to blame. Today is the 26th of Dec 2014 my 3 yorkies are getting better. I will never allow BBW in my house again. Please if you have a food that works, do not allow somebody to guilt you into another brand because they say it's the best. My dogs almost died.

My 4 year old Shih tzu, Lilly, died Oct 27, 2014. She was slow, not at all active as she had been Saturday a day before. I have several dogs from 13, 10, 7 and 4 years old. Someone had diarrhea so I thought getting BB would be great - they sure advertise it great and it reads great on the bags. I was using kibble and bits, and treats were pupperoni or BACON. They both have bad reviews as bad so I thought that's it - but I've used them all for years. I'd go with several posts here that all the dogs liked BB for a few days then they didn't want to eat it. I thought the great taste got old quick, it wasn't their good greasy food so added an egg to the bowls with BB. They scarfed it up.

Lilly died about 2 months after starting it. Her "brother" has lost weight and has skin problems in the last week, I've thought is just dry skin and have shampooed with medicated shampoo with oatmeal and used hydrocortisone spray. The other dogs just don't eat as much. This site is pointing to the only possible problem and I say it's Blue Buffalo. Thanks for sharing your stories. I just threw out the bag of BB and their treats. Don't know what to go to but I know kibble and bits didn't kill!! I'm 66 and had dogs all my life and this is the first time someone killed my baby.

My 13-year-old indoor cat had been ill lately and lost a considerable amount of weight. After a few trips to the vet she was slowly on her way to feeling better. I wanted to make sure that she was getting a high quality, nourishing food to help her gain weight quicker. In the past, I've tried gradually switching her over to other premium brands, but she would begin vomiting soon after. So back to the grocery store stuff. At this point I was just desperate so I bought a bunch of different, supposedly better, brands of wet food for her to try. One of which was the BB Wilderness chicken. I mixed a little bit in her usual food and she ate it without any issues.

A couple of days later, she vomited all of the undigested food about an hour after eating. 20 minutes later, she vomited a red tinged liquid twice. I was horrified. She was lethargic and didn't eat for the following hours but no more vomiting. Eventually, her appetite came back and she seemed fine. I had no idea it could be the food because I trusted this brand. It had to be better than the grocery store crap. I did some googling later that night and found this website. What I've read is shocking to say the least. In all of the 11 years we've had this cat, nothing like this has ever happened. She was back to normal after stopping the food, so what else could it be? I will never purchase another product from this brand.

After eating the recent bag of Blue Buffalo Chicken and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, which has changed in formula, the dog began vomiting yellow bile 3 times a day. The vomiting never slowed down, eventually turned into a white foam and dry heaving over time. The dog was a healthy, happy, high-energy 9-year-old bull terrier until the new food entered his system. The vet didn't see anything wrong with the dog since all test results looked normal. All nausea and vomiting ceased only after completely removing the Blue Buffalo from his diet.

Updated on 01/27/2015: Unfortunately, my story ends very sadly. My dog ate this food for years and was a thriving, youthful, happy, healthy Terrier until he ate the bag of food purchased on Nov. 21. From that day forward he vomited, drooled, had bloody diarrhea and was very lethargic. None of the vets could find anything wrong and today I have to make the unfortunate decision to end his suffering. And for those of you who were fortunate to not experience the negative effects of unregulated dog food, count your blessings. Very disappointed for an extremely loving dog.

Blue Wilderness Puppy Food - I am very disappointed in this brand. My husband and I have been feeding our two labs this food since they were pups. At first they were fine, growing and doing well. The past month has been a nightmare though. They started getting the runs, but we thought it was just a bug since they were eating fine, still had high energy, and had all their shots and vaccines. The runs varied in extremes, sometimes it would almost be solid and other times it was liquid. This lasted about a week before I saw blood in the stool and immediately took them to the vet. Stool sample and physical exam showed they were fine, and their stool hardened up on the bland food diet the vet prescribed. We gradually switched them back to the dry food, and today one of my poor babies pooped in the house (she has never done that). Liquid poop again. So now we are switching. I have tried to research to see if there is a recall, but so far there isn't. Reading all the reviews has me convinced this is not a fluke or random stomach bug.

I just adopted a rescue dog from a foster home. The dog has been vetted, spayed and had its shots. I purchased a bag of Blue for puppies. This dog has had nonstop pudding type poop. I am now convinced it is this food. I should have know better and used Royal Canin. The dog is in the process of being housebroken and it can be a real mess. I have to get up every two hours to let her out. If I miss she will go on the puppy pad. I am very distressed after reading other reviews. I am going to give her canned pumpkin tomorrow and get her a new brand of food. This stuff should be off the market. Keep complaining if you have a problem. I have had enough pets to know that this has to be the food.
