We switched our cat's food to Blue Buffalo and about three weeks after switching him over, my baby boy who was about 2 years old, got really sick. He was vomiting and couldn't keep anything down. We took him to the vet and after IV fluids, several tests, an endoscopy and feeding tubes, we learned he had pancreatitis. I can't believe there is no recall on this brand at all! Blue Buffalo refuses to pay our vet bills too saying there is no proof that their food caused his pancreatitis despite other people's complaints on here. If anyone could help make a donation, we would really appreciate it!

I have been feeding my Maltipoo Blue Buffalo food since she was 12 weeks old. For about 3 years now, she has been eating the same type of food from Blue Buffalo, Adult Small Breed Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe (hot pink bag). A month ago I purchased a new bag of food and some dental treats from my local pet store. My dog started having diarrhea with some blood in her stool and was vomiting bile within a week and a half. She was vomiting and/or having diarrhea every 3 hours. I assumed it was because of the new dental treat and stopped giving her the treat immediately. I placed her on a 12 hour fast, no food or water and slowly started to reintroduced food to her, but only giving her the Blue Buffalo dry food and nothing else.
She was good for a week but then she had diarrhea again, no blood this time. She threw up once that day also. I took away all the food and water again for 12 hours. I thought that she may have ate something that fell on the floor and that's what caused her to not be well. This morning it started all over again, diarrhea, vomiting, blood in the stool. She has had an episode every 3 hours and isn't drinking any water. After reading the reviews on this website and some other forums and articles online, and knowing that she has strictly been eating Blue Buffalo and only Blue Buffalo over the past 2 weeks, I have come to the realization that the food that I have felt comfortable with and trusted to feed my dog is making her very sick. She will not be eating Blue Buffalo dog food anymore. I will have to find another trusted source or make food for her on a daily basis. I don't want to see my dog go through any more days like this again.

Like many others that have reviewed this dog food, I am very upset with this company! My two small dogs have eaten BB food and biscuit treats since I rescued them two years ago and they loved it. However, since early May of this year I have purchased two bags of food (about $50.00) that had to be tossed. My male dog simply refused to eat it… just sniffed and backed away from the food. My female Jack Russell ate it but became ill with vomiting and gas and diarrhea. With the first bag, I thought maybe this was due to purchasing a different flavor, so I tossed it and bought another bag of their usual flavor.
Again, after a few days, the male dog refused it and my sweet Jack Russell ended up at the vet because she did eat it. Her vet found nothing wrong other than the digestive problems. So after spending over 100.00 dollars on bad food and vet bills, I have switched from BB to Ideal Balance and my dogs love it. I will never buy Blue Buffalo products again and will continue to discourage others from buying it!!!

We've been giving our dog, Max, Blue Buffalo Wilderness for about 6 months with good results. However, my husband bought a new bag around the first of July and ever since then I've watched Max go from an energetic, happy and healthy dog to a lethargic, itching (no fleas), diarrhea dog. He became so ill on Saturday that he went into grand-mal like seizures and then difficulty breathing. My husband and I got down on the floor with him, holding him and after an hour he calmed down. When I told our vet tech about him she asked what food was I giving him and she told me to get him off of it immediately and switch him to an organic recommendation by the vet. After two feedings he is coming back to himself.
Apparently there is a very bad batch of BB out there, and apparently it's one that may have hit the shelves around the end of June/first of July. I will be contacting the company but until then, stay away from Blue Buffalo dog food. I am told that even though they say that they make the food in the USA, they bring meat scraps in from various other countries... and it's apparent that they are dangerous!!! BEWARE! We nearly lost our beloved labradoodle, Max... we wouldn't want it to happen to you!

I have a 3 1/2yr old long hair Dachshund. Two years ago I switched her food to BB Grain-Free Chicken for small dogs because I thought it was supposed to be the best of the best! She has not had any issues until the last 3 weeks. She started having diarrhea and vomiting. The diarrhea became black and jelly-like, then started having blood in it. Her vomit changed from a yellowish bile to blood filled. She was very lethargic and passing horrible gas, too. I took her to vet's and they said she had HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). After a few days of meds and being on a wet food for digestive health from the vet she started getting much better.
I slowly weaned her back to her BB food as the vet told me to do after 4 days of improvement. Lo and behold, once completely back on her BB food she has become sick again!!! It has taken about a full week on the BB to see the symptoms start to set in... constipation, random loose stool, vomit yellow bile, being extremely lazy and sleeping so much!! I took her to the vet yesterday before reading any of these BB reviews and the vet said it sounded like the onset of HGE again and gave her antibiotics. I wasn't feeling satisfied with this diagnosis since there is no known cause of HGE so I got on my laptop and decided to research her food to see if any other dogs had been sick lately. I can't believe the thousands of reviews I have read... dog after dog having the same exact problems. I think I have found the culprit to my dog's sickness!!! I have thrown out her BB and will never buy that brand again.

After only one quarter of a bag of Blue Buffalo Beef Freedom dog food, 4 days my dogs began drinking excessive water and urinating on the floor multiple times throughout the day. Not just a little bit but quarts of pee creating large lakes in just one pee. I finally realize it was the food and then I found this post. I immediately am returning the food to PetSmart, which I cannot believe sells this crap and I am getting them on a clean diet for a while to rehabilitate their system and their kidneys.

I had bought my dog BB a few months ago and he loved it, however I'm on a tight budget and it was a more expensive choice for him. Two weeks ago we were given samples of BB and were delighted since our dog loves it. We ran out of his food this morning, so I gave him one of the samples. Within an hour he was drooling, weak and shaking. He is such a well behaved dog, he made it outside to throw up. We're watching him closely right now and will hopefully avoid an expensive vet bill. I was saddened to see we're not the only ones who have had a negative experience with BB. We really liked their product before.

After reading other reports I'm wondering about the Blue Buffalo I feed my 3 adult cats and now my new kitten. My big orange cat is at the vet with IV fluids and a catheter because of severe crystals. I thought I was buying the best but it appears we all may be deceived. Thank God it's almost gone. I may be returning the kitten food. Is this true? We drive to get our pets the best and it may be hurting them.

My boyfriend and I just started our 4 dogs of all mixes, age, and sex on Blue Wilderness Dog food since early April 2015. We were under the assumption of the great advertising and ingredients that we were purchasing the best dog food money could buy. After about 2 months I noticed 2 out of the four dogs were having severe stomach problems - vomiting, excessive water consumption, grass eating, and dizziness, and weight loss. After closer research, this dog brand had a recall in 2007 and to find out Blue Wilderness is doing blatant false advertising. This brand contains poultry by-product meal, egg shells, and raw feathers when they clearly state they don't. Also they did test positive for a Chinese chemical melamine as well. I don't enjoy being lied to and I'm sickened by the deceit.

I bought Blue Buffalo for my 5 year old Malamute the first week of July, thinking that I was purchasing quality dog food. As soon as we started feeding her BB, she had really bad diarrhea, was super lethargic, and wouldn't come when called. After 200$ of vet bills, medication, and chicken and rice diet, she was finally feeling better. The dog walker gave her some BB by mistake, and the diarrhea started all over again. I then googled, and am disappointed that so many owners have had the same problem, and still nothing is done at the company! Definitely never purchasing again...

I had been feeding my 3 yr old yorkie BB chicken/rice toy breed. 5 months ago he had a few days of vomiting and bloody stool. Brushed it off as a virus. A month later the same thing occurred and a trip to the vet occurred. It was suggested to switch his food to another brand for sensitive stomach. He was switched and had no issues. Last month he went back on BB; same issues again with vomiting and rectal bleeding. I will never use this product again.

We have been feeding our 2 dogs Blue dog food, 1st Senior Lamb and Rice, then Senior Turkey Rice Basics. Originally my larger dog had issues throwing up every morning. Since he is older and our other dog didn't have issues we thought the food was just too rich. The small dog has had some loose stool, but otherwise had been ok...until the bag we just bought from PETCO. They have both have had diarrhea and the small dog is now puking. I just spent almost $100 on dog and cat food, but will be buying something new to start tomorrow. No more Blue!

I adopted a 13 week old Husky puppy last week. Took her to the vet for her first check up, she was given a 100% clean bill of health. Three days later she died from an allergic reaction/poisoning that closed her airway and suffocated her to death. The last thing she ate - you guessed it! Blue Buffalo training treats. She didn't choke on the treat either, she died 10 hrs after eating it. It was the most violent death I have ever seen, heaving and gasping for air, and vomiting.. and I was in the Marines during the Iraq war!!!! Blue Buffalo, you are forever in my sights. I hope you go bankrupt and are forced to eat the poison you so readily feed our animals. Disgrace of a company. Ohhh, and yes, she has had a necropsy done and the vet is baffled because she had perfectly healthy organs and he has ruled out Parvo or any sort of genetic fault.

After 1 feeding, both of my dogs started to vomit, soon to be followed with diarrhea. I had 2 VERY SICK dogs. After doing some research I found out that I am not the only one. I will no longer support or buy ANY Blue Buffalo products.

If you're considering giving this food to your pet, please reconsider. I have two dogs, a mutt (45 lbs) and a yellow lab (65 lbs). The yellow lab has an iron stomach, while the mutt has always been a bit delicate. When I purchased this food (Blue FREEDOM Grain-Free Adult) I was expecting high quality since I paid way more than what I'm normally comfortable with. I wanted to give them something special, something healthy that I could feel good about feeding them. The lab ate it with little enthusiasm, and my mutt snubbed it completely. I assumed he was being picky so I waited. He would keep coming back to the food, pick up a piece and carry it several feet away, examine it and eat one or two before giving up.
This went on for almost two days before I noticed he was acting "depressed". He would lay down a lot, and when he walked he would hold his head low, almost never wagging his tail or following me around the house like he normally would. On the second night since starting him on the new food I thought it might do him good to let him sleep on my bed with me, so I went to pick him up and he yelped with pain. I quickly put him down and started examining him. I discovered that he was extremely sensitive around his ribs and belly. I gave him some extra pillows and blankets in the floor and I think we both got very little sleep that night. At first I thought that he may have hurt himself somehow, or that he was just "getting older". Initially I never suspected that my high-cost, high-quality dog food could be the cause. Both dogs had just been to the vet a week earlier for a check-up/physical exam and were both 100% healthy.
My primary suspicion was that he might be constipated since he hadn't pooped much at all in over a day. The next morning he tried to go, but it was hardly anything and he seemed to be straining. His urine also had a very strong odor. I was standing several feet away and could smell it, and it was very dark, even though he was drinking normally. When I took him back inside he went to his bed and didn't get up all day. That's when I started to research his symptoms online, and concluded it must be a change in diet. I found this page and was entirely shocked by what I have read. I immediately took both dogs off the food. By the end of his "poisoning", the mutt had trouble standing up, and would yelp or whine when he tried to stretch or climb on/off the couch. The lab didn't show any sign of pain or illness, but she was eating a lot less and dropped about 5 lbs. I made them chicken and rice and within a day or so they perked up substantially.
The mutt still seemed mopey for a few days, but they're pooping normally and his urine no longer smells. I've had my mutt since the day he was born; he's turning 8 this winter. I would have been furious and devastated if I had been the cause of my best friend's death. After reading several posts here, I'm convinced that if I had waited any longer he wouldn't be alive today. How is this food still on the shelves at PetSmart?

My pets used to enjoy the baked biscuit treats from Blue Buffalo but during the past year quality problems have made them inedible. They are not baked, they are burnt. I have returned packages twice now and am sitting on another 3 that I need to take back. They have all been different lot numbers and the problem is in all three flavors: turkey, duck and salmon. They look burnt, they smell burnt, they are so hard I cannot break them by hand but the true issue is that none of my dogs will eat them and they seem to love all treats. I have also seen quality problems with Yummy Chummies. I spend top dollar for Blue Buffalo products expecting high quality products in return. It is time to find another high end producer, one that still cares about what they sell.

My 7-year old Black Lab has done well on the Adult Lamb and Rice (Blue Buffalo) for years. Recently she began having severe diarrhea. I attributed this to stress from the fireworks on July 4th or as a side effect of warm weather. I was having to take her out every hour to avoid accidents in my home. I kept her from any treats to eliminate that as a potential. I had her on a bland diet to help relieve her tummy. The last few days she has been re-introduced to the food she previously did well on. It seemed her stool was normalizing, however yesterday she once again had gas and diarrhea. This morning was acting out of character (drooling/trying desperately to crawl on my lap) and she vomited up her entire breakfast. I will keep on eye on her if this is not BB related, but the recent reviews from others makes me suspicious.

Took her to vet after 3 days of not eating, spent $900.00 and vet DID blood work and xrays and came up with nothing. Put dog on bland food diet and would eat very little then vomit that. Then came bloody diarrhea. Took dog to different vet and still waiting for results of the cause of illness. From what I have read it is a 99% chance that this batch of BB dog food is the blame. I've been giving my 2 Border Collie BB LP senior food for several years. They will turn 12 next month. About 6 weeks ago they started vomiting yellowish, milky stuff, on and off between them. I thought maybe the heat or allergies or new environment (we just moved in April). Then Bing started to get diarrhea along with the vomiting. Through process of elimination the vomiting stopped when I started using bottled water. But Bing still has diarrhea. He eats and drinks normally. Runs and plays normal. We're going into the vet for the second time now on Friday. I gave him some "freshpet" with his BB this evening to see if that will help his poop.
But NOW, after reading complaints posted as of yesterday about BB and people's pets getting sick in the last few months, I'm worried to feed both my dogs BB in the morning. My dogs are my world! So to be safe... I will feed both my dogs Freshpet sold at Target and Petsmart for a few weeks then switch them to Wellness or Nitro Ultra. Hell, maybe I'll just keep them on Freshpet but it's very expensive. But if it comes to that, I'll cut back on my food so I know they're getting quality food. Anyway, I'll see what happens on Friday. When these episodes occurred, I took her off the dry food altogether (the only Treats in her world are pieces of her same food) and started with a boiled Chix and rice after resting her gut for a most a day.
This has happened at least 4 times since I purchased the last bag online thru Amazon. I will no longer feed her this food. It's not hard to figure out the problem since she is only sick when feeding from this particular bag of BB dry food. Has BB changed the recipe? Have they outsourced to another company for any ingredients? Does Amazon.com have a separate source for their BB online dogfood orders? I called the emergency vet clinic and the first question was what food was he on. I told them BB. They said it was good ingredient wise but very concentrated and that they have seen a lot of dogs with constipation and UTI's that were on it. They recommended changing brands.
After spending day at our local vet's office for x rays & meds and a $200 bill he finally pooped. Our vet recommends Purina for its high ethical standards. I recently switched them to Duck formula about 6 months ago. In April (now July) I told the vet that her urine smelled funny and that she still eats poop. Then in June, there was blood in the urine. I freaked out! Then came the Xray, showed nothing, Urine test showed slightly elevated levels but doctor said nothing to worry about. Then we go on two weeks of Clavimax or whatever. Was great while on it. Came off, three days later more blood. Now two more weeks. Bill is currently at $950.00 so far.
Then after round two, one blood drop, then peeing every few seconds. Stomach bloated so I gave Pepcid 10MG and then she's ok. Go back to vet, another urine test, now they want sonogram and culture. Another $500.00. So I spoke to a co-worker who I just learned had the same problem. She went through the same crap. New vet told her to switch from Blue Buffalo because of all its problems and give her Royal Canin Urinary SO. Problem gone for a month now. Why didn't my vet tell me this? They sell the Royal food at the vet??? Time to change vets.
I am highly disappointed in this product!!! I am going to also contact Blue Buffalo and make sure they are aware how much pain and money this has caused me!!! I changed my dog food because I was told it doesn't have red dye in it. My cocker spaniel started vomiting and having loose stools. I thought it was the weather change. My vet suggested switching her to chicken and rice and she immediately stopped vomiting. I tested the BB again and she threw up again. It's been 4 weeks and she is now losing her hair on her back and has dandruff. Don't buy this food, I am hoping her organs weren't compromised from this junk!

We've been feeding various flavors (duck, turkey, salmon) of Blue Buffalo to our 2 dogs for a year - results have been ok (Oct 2014-May 2015). But for the past 2 weeks (June/July, 2015), the dogs have snubbed their food at feeding time, then eaten it disinterestedly. They've become lethargic, not themselves. Last week, the bloodhound threw up and acted very sick, and we took her to the doc who found nothing wrong with her. Friends with dogs told us they might have Lyme, that it was too hot to eat, etc. but none of this added up - our dogs both always LOVED to eat. Then we went camping, and a pal who also feeds her dog Blue Buffalo complained that her dog was experiencing the same symptoms ours were: Lethargy, behavior change, etc. Her dog knocked over the food bowl at dinner that same night.
We JUST switched food brands and our dogs (a boxer mix and bloodhound) rediscovered their appetites, their energy increased immediately. It's only day 2 with the new food but my intuition tells me that something is very wrong with Blue Buffalo food right now. I thoroughly expect it to be recalled and I hope to heavens our dogs have not been damaged up to this point because of our stupidity in continuing to feed it to them despite their symptoms.

I have an 11 month old pit female. I've been feeding her Blue Buffalo since I got her at 4 months. She's constantly had bad diarrhea on and off since I've had her. We would come home to find her crate covered with diarrhea as well as her after only two hours of being in it. I've tried reducing the amount of food she was getting. The vet said nothing was coming back in her test and her food should not be causing this but she was not sure.
Today I switched over to holistic select. It has probiotics in it and prebiotics along with several other good products and is grain free. Lately she has been very lethargic and not her normal 11 month old self. I'm hoping with the switch to holistic select the diarrhea will stop. If Blue Buffalo has changed their formula they need to alert the public and do something about making peoples dogs sick. This is outrageous. With the price they charge you would think they had a good quality food. But reading all these comments I'm questioning the actual quality. I think it's time they start being held accountable for their actions.

I haven't had one issue with Blue Buffalo. The first bag I bought was for my dog Daisy 8 years ago. She was a high energy dog ACD/Border Collie Mix. Her coat was beautiful and she loved the food. I have a GSD/Malamute mix & a Miniature Pinscher and they both love it every type of Wilderness. I switched my mini pin over to the small breed formula last week and he absolutely loves it. When I adopted him, he was an extremely picky eater. Blue Buffalo is the only food he likes. It's the only food I trust to give my dogs. I stand by this company and their products.

We've been feeding our dogs Blue Buffalo since we got both of them 1.5 years ago. We have had luck with the brand up until 3 days ago. Went out on Sunday and purchased the Wilderness Lamb formula and fed it to my dogs that night. The next morning both dogs were vomiting the food back up. My female GSD vomited about 4 times and quickly recovered. My male Chi however has not gotten any better. He has vomited within 2 days a total of 11 times. He has not moved his bowels at all though due to not eating anything including rice or chicken. I've tried giving him rice and he won't go near it. He won't even take in fluids.
I've been forcing water into him every couple of hours so he stays hydrated. I've also forced some vitamin water to return some electrolytes back into his system due to the massive amounts of vomiting. He went to the vet today and the vet agrees that it sounds like the food made both dogs sick but my GSD recovered faster due to being a larger dog and smaller dogs get hit harder with things like this. My Chi now just lays around lethargic and cries out every once in awhile. It sounds like he is in pain and my guess is his belly his just hurting him. He gets up and finds a spot to hide and cries and then eventually goes and lies back down on his bed.
Originally BB agreed to reimburse the vet bills if it could be proven that it was the food that made him sick but with everything being pushed out of his system, how the hell are we supposed to prove that at this point? Just their way of looking good by offering the help but not wanting to actually go through with it! BB was also recently exposed for lying about what's in their food - although they claim to be all natural and holistic, BB uses by-product! I don't pay $62 for a bag of food for that garbage! We switched their food now and we will never go back to Blue. I'm with another user on here and would love to get in on a class action lawsuit. What a shame on this company for what all of our pets are going through and they aren't doing a damn thing to rectify the situation!
UPDATE ON 07/04/2015: I submitted a review a few days ago going over everything that happened with my 3-year old Chihuahua regarding him becoming very sick after eating Blue Buffalo. Both of my dogs became sick but my little guy did not recover from it. He passed away this morning after only 5 days of eating Blue Buffalo. The company has done NOTHING and because of their food, we lost our dog today. I am angry with this company and my husband and I are going after them for what they did to us. I spent $500 at the emergency clinic because she was unable to urinate and when the stones were tested, we found it was her food that was causing the issue. I tend to be very careful about my pet foods. I lost two dogs in 2009, and I never want to go through anything like that again. I paid a premium for this food, and I shouldn't have to worry about its effect on my cat or my dog. I noticed on June 19, 2015 that my cat was trying to spray in my house, which is immediately weird because he is neutered. So I figured he was stressed out, and I kept an eye on him for the rest of the evening. The next morning, I noticed he was very lethargic, and trying to hide. So I grabbed him to check him out, and I noticed he had a reddish colored discharge coming from his Genital area. He also had very little energy and wasn't really able to stand, nor was he able to urinate. He was also trying to hide.
So I then decided he needed to go to the vet. Turns out he had a UTI. He has to have an antibiotic twice a day, and he seems to be pulling out of it. I switched him to Wellness Core Grain Free, and he seems to be handling it much better. I did my research, and everyone this has happened to has had basically the same symptoms that my Frankie had. As I said before, I pay a premium to make sure my pets have good food, and this simply isn't right. I felt terrible because my cat was terribly sick, and it was essentially my fault for trusting their nasty food. Never buy BB.

I would just like to say that Blue Buffalo has been incredible for my cats. I recently fostered a poor and pregnant cat and she's been getting Healthy Growth Kitten dry food and Wilderness Kitten wet food throughout her pregnancy and lactation. She's not only put on weight but the kittens are nice and chunky - after seeing how great the food worked for her, I switched my personal two kittens, and adult cat to the Healthy Growth Kitten dry food along with lots of extra water, and Wilderness wet food - everyone seems to be doing great! My overweight adult cat is slimming up and my kittens (7 months and 2 1/2 months) are much healthier. It's very important to provide plenty of water, wet food regularly, and make the switch from a low-quality food to a high quality like Blue slowly.

Since I've been using that brand with no problems for my eleven year old Chihuahua, I decided to get a cat version too. So I got several cans of moist food and dry food also.
The kitten got explosive diarrhea and I didn't realize it was the food. I had continued feeding him the dry food and the moist food and it got worse. Not only caused diarrhea but I could also see blood in the stool. After reading exactly the same situation from others pet owners, there is no doubt in my mind that the kitten is sick now because of the food. I'm really disappointed. I definitely will not recommend this brand at all.

Our cat was on antibiotics for 2 weeks and seems to be improving. Our vet suggests Hills c/d for him. We are changing our 2 other cats too from cat food and throwing this poison food away. He was right. Our pug never recovered and we had to put him down yesterday. Even though he was an older dog, we feel cheated out of a few more years with him. So now it has been four months of empty anal sacs, thankfully for me and her! Blue Buffalo did lie to their consumers and shame on them for lying to people who fatten their wallets! But, this food has made my dogs allergies disappear, so I will stick with what works!!

I switched from Purina Cat Chow to Blue Buffalo because I have 9 cats (recently acquired a momma and 6 kittens) in addition to my other cats. One of my cats never seemed to have energy and had some diarrhea and vomiting. I just knew the cat food was not agreeing with him. When I switched to Blue Buffalo, he had a 100% turn around. He is now one of the most spunkier cats. All of my cats love the taste of it and are doing wonderful. I'm not sure how other people say their cats got sick on it.

I have a 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer who is at the vets now with kidney stones due to this product. I recently switched him over to Blue Buffalo as one of PetSmart's employee recommended this product. Here I was thinking I was giving my dog the best food there is, seeing how expensive one bag of dog food is but come to find out I was completely wrong. This morning my dog started having blood in his urine and I rushed him to Banfield Pet Hospital where they had to do a urine sample test and two abdominal X-rays and we are currently waiting to see if surgery is necessary, so you can only imagine how much our bill will come out to.
I am highly disappointed in this product and I will make sure all my friends and family know never to purchase this product! I will be contacting Blue Buffalo and make sure they are aware how much pain this has caused our family. We are praying that Winston will be okay and I am writing this review to make people aware that this product can harm your animal as I would never want anyone to go through what my poor schnauzer is going through.

I fed my cats Blue Buffalo last year. I had significant problems with 4 of them. The most serious was a urinary tract obstruction in one of my male cats. My vet immediately told me it was the Blue Buffalo. I stopped feeding it, but a week later, another male cat developed an inflamed bladder, and one of my females got a bladder infection. The fourth cat has more a skin allergy reaction and literally licked off all of his fur. All 4 cats got better after a lot of vet bills and new food, thank goodness. But I am still furious with Blue Buffalo and tell everyone I know not to use it. I'd like to file a class action lawsuit.

I have notified Blue via email and by phone twice concerning purchase of the same name of Blue adult chicken and rice dry dog food. The last three purchases contained no flavor bits and is food pellets are much smaller than previous bag. I have attempted to explain to the representative but get little response except that they have not changed the food and the bits should make up 5% of the contents. After reading the other negative comments regarding their products I believe there is a quality control problem they are ignoring and plan to toss out remaining food for another brand. Something different is in this last purchase than previous. I would have hope they would have been more concerned.

I have fed my 4 year old French bulldog many varieties of Blue Buffalo dog food since she was a puppy. Last year, she developed some possible food allergies in the form of paw licking, butt scooting, and ear issues. I switched to the grain-free variety and her symptoms grew much worse. She also refused to eat the food. My vet recommended a prescription diet to ease her discomfort and she is now on the road to a full recovery. I wish I had seen all of these negative reviews sooner. I cannot believe the horrible letters I'm reading concerning Blue Wilderness dog food. When I first brought my Lab puppy home I started him on the Blue Wilderness turkey and chicken puppy food. He started having diarrhea right away, a week later took him to your vet. He thought it was just the change of food. I never thought it was the food. He said wait another week. We did. Still no change. Our Vet said we needed to try another food, I did not want to because I didn't believe it was the food, But we did what he said and he put him on Royal Canin, tried for a week and a half and the diarrhea got worse.
After 7 weeks of this and I don't how many tests that all came back negative and one antibiotic later that didn't work! our vet decided our Pup had an underlying bacterial infection and put him on a different antibiotic which turned out to be the right one. When the Royal Canin didn't work I put him back on the Blue Wilderness puppy food. Spencer is now a year old and still on the Blue Wilderness dog food, only now he's on the adult salmon recipe and he loves it and doing just great!!! My 12 year old jack russell Ebony is on the Senior Blue Buffalo and doing great. When I had her on the Royal Canin she had such stomach problems and her stools were very dry.
A week after I changed her to the Blue Buffalo there were no more stomach problems or dry stools!! Thank you Blue Buffalo! I have great faith in the Blue Wilderness dog food Co. If there are any problems with the ingredients I also have faith that the owner of this Co.will have it straightened out as soon as he can. Good Luck Blue Wilderness! Thank you for your time.

I recently got a new puppy. I was under the impression that BB puppy food was a high quality dog food, so I decided to feed my puppy this food. Well my puppy got really sick over the weekend. He was having terrible bouts of diarrhea that contained blood and he was throwing up constantly. When I called a local specialty pet store I was advised that they no longer carry any type of BB food because many dogs had the same problem that my dog did. In addition just to make sure that my dog did have a more serious issue, like parvo, I took him to the vet who confirmed that he did not have parvo, parasites, or anything else.
However, the vet did advise me to NOT feed my puppy anymore of BB because it widely known that animals have experienced many adverse reactions to this food. So being the diligent person that I am I contacted BB this morning, and not surprisingly two different reps at this company pretended that they are not aware of any current issues with this food. Now, who do they think they are fooling when there are over a thousand complaints regarding their foods on this website alone. As consumers, it would behoove us to BOYCOTT any pet food manufacturer who does not take accountability for products that can potentially attribute to the death of our pets/family members!!!

This food is junk, just junk. My puppy got extremely sick off of this food. I had a huge vet bill and Blue Buffalo wouldn't even respond to me. When I first posted there were 400 complaints on here. Now there are nearly 1200. What does that tell you? Blue Buffalo claimed that their competitors were posting all of these complaints to bring them down. Then they claimed that Purina was making up that there was by product and corn in their food.
Now suddenly Blue Buffalo is admitting that there's by product in their food because they have been caught in discovery of eight lawsuits against them and an email exchange between their company and a supplier showing that they knew about the by product. So they are being sued by Purina and they have seven class-action lawsuits against them that have been consolidated. That speaks for itself. I'm so glad they are finally getting questioned by having to answer to higher authorities that they can't just brush off like they have us.

The vet has now put her on Royal Canin food prescription S/o diet for life. Am planning to take our lab off this food as well. We bought the Blue Buffalo Wilderness for Puppies for our little 6 month old Cockapoo (Gus). After researching quite a few foods, we decided that this was the best option and was worth the extra money... Boy, were we wrong! Gus has been sick constantly and throws up almost every day. We thought it was anxiety at first, but then after reading other people's problems with this food, it all makes sense now. I also realized that it might be a problem with the BB food because he goes over to his friend Roger's house (a golden doodle) and eats Roger's food and doesn't throw it up.
So annoyed that we spent all of this money and ended up hurting our dog!!! We obviously don't have the receipt anymore because we bought a HUGE bag a few months ago (maybe other people keep their receipts for that long, but I'm not that responsible). I worked as a BB product marketer in FL pet stores in 2003-2004, when the product first came out, I switched then from Nutro (also owned by Mars at some point) to Blue. All of the positive benefits promised were true - a healthier, happier dog, shiny coat, less stool/better quality stool... the works. I've fed nothing but BB to my dogs, even when money was tight; I raved about its benefits to friends and family. I personally believe that the company started out exactly as we've all heard, but that possibly, ownership has changed hands and the quality has been compromised.
We adopted a shelter pet in April and in speaking with some of the associated animal people, I heard that Mars bought Blue Buffalo and that Mars had already changed the ingredients (reducing the quality). What shocked me was that according to my source, regulatory authorities do not mandate that the packaging immediately be revised to reflect the change in ingredients. This means we could be paying the same premium price (for a brand that WAS true to its advertising), but was then compromised and and consumers were not notified. I did notice a change in the kibble appearance (primarily texture).
My 5.5 lb chih ("Raider", photo) is suddenly having violent seizures and I am of course, seeking medical care for this. I realize that seizures, especially in this breed, can have a number of causes so at this point, I have no evidence that Blue Buffalo food is related to the onset of seizures. Unfortunately, I am seeking another food because there IS evidence of the change in ownership and my own eyes confirm that something is different with the food. I have heard great things about Fromm and Grandma Lucy's. I was lucky enough to get samples of Fromm, the dogs love it and the kibble quality looks like the Blue kibble, used to. Look online about Blue Buffalo acquisition/being sold and you will find related information.

Tried Wellness, but he didn't like. Found B Wilderness-the ingredient list was lovely as was the "wilderness" idea. He LOVED it. I also fed him half a can of Natural Balance a day. He THRIVED. He grew large (not fat), his coat was glossy, his eyes bright.
Last fall, at 5 years, he suddenly grew ill. Refused his food, cried out in the litter box. Started urinating in weird places. Vet found crystals in his urine. Said "I'm afraid it's his food. NOT BAD, but causing him to form crystals. The formulation." Prescribed prescription food. Pinocchio HATED it. Grew scrawny. Eyes ran, fur grew static. BUT he's not sick. Has grown accustomed to "the stuff". Looks good again (but not AS good as he did on Wilderness.) And I'm growing accustomed to feeding it. Best part: the security that Pinoch will never be sick that way again. Sorry. I bought the world of Wilderness. And my cat looked like a movie star. Hate to badmouth Wilderness, but telling it like it was. I have called W. and begged them to make a food for urinary issues. Ironic. They WERE very concerned and interested.

We started feeding Blue Buffalo Wilderness formula approximately 9 months ago but switched after a vet gave us a warning about urinary problems associated with it. Unfortunately it was too late. Last Thursday we brought in one cat that was losing weight and had suddenly stopped eating well and was urinating and drinking more than usual. He is in kidney failure now. I breed cats and he is very special to me at almost 14 years of age. He arrived from the UK the day before 9-11 and it was just the right timing I guess. Friday we also noticed one of our females straining in the litter pan. She is at 15, our oldest. She is now scheduled for surgery next week to remove a bladder stone. My breeding stud cat now is also urinating everywhere so he will also have to go in and I have had problems off and one with a female I got last August. She was on Science Diet Norwegian Forest Cat Diet and had to be switched as we can't get it here in the states.
I plan to contact Blue Buffalo and at least get reimbursed for the huge vet bills I am now facing. Over $3,000 so far. I have heard from others on my breeders list of similar problems. I will now have cats on Renal Diets and Kidney Diets for the rest of their lives thanks to this, and one on fluids 3x a week for the rest of whatever is left of his life. I have been breeding cats since 1978 and have never had a blocked cat or one that went into kidney failure until feeding Blue Buffalo Wilderness.

As I write this I can't begin to describe how brokenhearted I am and how much I continue to hope someone will shut the Blue Buffalo company down. My dear and much loved Collie is struggling for her life at not quite 12 yrs of age and I know this food is responsible. Our story began as so many others. Someone I trusted strongly suggested I switch to this food about 2 years ago and I did. Now, looking back it was a mistake that may have cost me my sweet girl's life.
For a while, all was well. Then, we began the downward spiral into first UTIs, then bouts of diarrhea and occasionally vomiting. This went on and on - one round of antibiotics after another and still realizing my furry baby was never really healthy. Finally a friend that I'd actually suggested this food to (for her new puppy) asked me one day if I'd read these stories of the horrors of this food - Her puppy had suddenly begun to vomit almost daily. After reading about this poison they call food I was horrified and it all suddenly made sense to me as to why my Collie and I had been in this awful downhill spiral.
After yet another consultation with my Vet and a few attempts at other foods we finally were able to stabilize my girl on a special sensitive GI food. This along with probiotics and pumpkin allowed her to maintain for just a few months until we've come to the point we are at now. At present she's fighting for her life - in Liver Failure and given her history, I feel certain that her problems have been a combination of both GI and Liver all along and all because of the damage from this toxic food. Nothing else makes sense given her very good health prior to this. PLEASE tell everyone you know to boycott this company! Our furry children deserve so much better!

While shopping in PetSmart several years ago and speaking with a representative from that store, we were advised if we wanted to feed our dogs the best food on the market, we needed to feed them Blue Buffalo. So we switched. Originally we started with the Wilderness Chicken. After being on that food for a while, one of our dogs developed terrible itching. Our vet had us switch the food to the salmon, hoping that would eliminate the itch. After being on that for months, the itch started to get worse so he was put on a pill to help the itch so he wouldn't bleed.
So after taking that pill for some time, I talked to them about what to do to get him off that pill. It was suggested that we start with eliminating chicken from his diet. Immediately I went to the Blue Buffalo aisle to find a food that does not contain any poultry. There was only one that I found, which was the sweet potato & white fish. But now I've been told that it was a lie, they just didn't list the chicken on the ingredients. We had switched to Blue Buffalo about a month before along with mixing it with Purina easy digestion. She told us that Blue Buffalo is not as healthy as they claim to be. She said it's high in one ingredient that causes crystallization in a cat's urine. So she has been switched to Science Diet for urinary health. Since seeing my vet, it was determined to be the food that was causing this. After only 2 days of changing the food, the urinary problem has cleared up, along with antibiotics. 3 weeks now of being off the "BLUE WILDERNESS SALMON" and she is back to her old self. I was recommended this food because it's grain-free and very expensive so I assumed it was a good choice, although
My 10 year old kitty was not so lucky. She began to vomit intensely and the very next day was lifeless on the floor. I rushed to the vet but it was too late and I had to put my sweet baby girl to sleep. Making that decision was the hardest thing I've ever done. "It was kidney failure," the vet said. Although I still can't say for sure if it was the Blue Buffalo that caused this, or just really bad luck, so I started to do some research. Is this all just a coincidence? If it's "only the finest natural ingredients" used... then why are there hundreds if not thousands of reports about people's pets getting sick or even dying? Wish I would of researched reviews from real people before I switched the food, and not just taken the company's word on the product. Very disappointed with Blue.

After my husband and I adopted our dog in late of 2012, we introduced him to Blue Buffalo Wilderness food to which he took a liking to it. We first purchased the Salmon recipe and eventually, he grew tired of the flavor so we purchased a bag of the Rabbit recipe and he loved it! Well, that is until 2 weeks ago when we noticed that when we would feed him, he would be a bit hesitant to eat, but he would still manage to finish his food. Then as days progressed, he would leave left overs which we didn't think much about until one morning after our dog awoke, he vomited. The consistency was more white with a bit of yellow so we thought he may have had a hard time during his sleep without much food in his system to hold him over that night.
We immediately let him out to relieve himself and during that time, he was searching for anything that looked like grass to munch on. Also, FYI - we never leave left overs in his bowl. If our dog doesn't finish his food, we throw it out. We also wash his bowl after each use and change his water every morning and night. His food is also stored in a tight sealed container in our food pantry away from any heat or sun.
After we let him out, we brought him back in to eat. We fed him 1.5 scoops of his dry Blue Buffalo food and he went about his day until he vomited again a few hours later. As time passed, we observed him becoming more lethargic and uninterested in any kind of activity besides walking. Assuming he was having some digestive issues, I cooked some white rice and boiled plain white chicken breast and shredded it for him to eat later in the evening. After feeding him the rice and chicken, he was able to hold it down longer than in the morning when he first ate the Blue Buffalo food. Since he was still showing signs of sickness, we scheduled him an appointment with his vet the following day.
The day of his appointment, the vet checked his records, vital stats and felt around his body for anything unusual and didn't find anything. We informed the vet that we have not seen our dog put anything other than his chew toys, dog food and grass into his mouth which is all normal. Since it appeared to be more of a digestive issue, the vet prescribed him a special Prescription diet formula that we purchased along with some meds to help hold his him over. After we stopped giving him the Blue Buffalo food and started giving him his prescription food, we observed that he is no longer lethargic and he has stopped vomiting!
All this time we thought we were giving our dog the best food out there! According to some reviews, some state that there have been some changes with their ingredients and so forth as of last Dec 2014. It's upsetting that we paid so much for the Blue Buffalo pet food and learned that it's what caused our dog's sickness. Be aware of what you feed your beloved furry friend and make sure to do your research!

I have been feeding my 2 dogs and 2 cats Blue Buffalo for years. They are all strong and healthy animals. My cats used to eat fancy feast and when we changed the food I noticed a huge difference in their coats. They are so soft and healthy now. I wouldn't change their food for anything else on the market. I have heard from many of my friends that feed their dogs bad foods like Purina, Beneful, and Alpo. Their dogs have no energy and just sleep all day long. They also have horrible skin dryness issues. I told them to make the switch and they too noticed a difference. For the people that said their dogs got sick, that's bizarre. I have never heard that in my years of recommending that to my friends.

Six months ago my boyfriend and I adopted Winston, the 40lb large-and-in-charge senior french bull dog who was in excellent shape according to all the vets. I am still in the process of finding him the right food as he is a frenchie and they are typically allergic to lots of things. When adjusting to a new brand of dog food I make sure and go thru the whole process of slowly introducing the new food by mixing it at first 25% for a few days then 50% for a few more and then slowly I bring it up to 100% and fade out the old food. My vet says to definitively conclude a food allergy you need several weeks of feeding that food and only that food, so the whole process can take some time. Which is why after 6 months I am still on the hunt for the right food for Winston.
Sometimes he itches and he can be a paw licker which is sign of allergy. I tried hypoallergenic Royal Canin but my vet didn't really care for the brand and though it overkill as he didn't present any of the typical skin irritations that accompany a food allergy. She said go back to the pet food place across the street and find a good food for him there. And I have been trying but nothing yet has satisfied all our needs. The limited ingredient diet bison and yam was too rich. The next he didn't like the flavor of I don't think. Then I wanted to try a grain free. So last week when my boyfriend was next to Pet Smart he decided to go and pick up our next bag of new food to try with Winston. The guy there recommended Blue Buffalo as a grain free, said it was the best product they had. Definitely not cheap anyway. So he spent the 60 something on a bag and brought it home for us to try.
I introduced it 25% Blue to 75% of the Royal Canin that I was forced to revert back to after the last food we tried was too rich. At any rate he threw up afterward, within a half an hour maybe. Later I fed again and that time he barfed even quicker and you could tell he just wasn't feeling well. That night he couldn't make it thru the night and while we slept he had an episode of diarrhea across the living room. The next morning I decided not to feed any more of this product as only a small amount mixed had caused him such upset. He had trots all that next day and he almost threw up in the car when we went for a ride. He didn't get excited all that day about anything, mostly wanted to sleep it off.
He seemed to feel much better the day after I returned back to feeding the Royal Canin. He doesn't like the Royal Canin, not by any means but at least he will eat it, and he doesn't throw up or have diarrhea afterward. I have shared with a few of my dog owning friends about this experience and lo and behold everyone who had tried this product in the last year had some similar bad story. Of all I have tried this dog food was the worst by a landslide. The negative effects on my pet were pretty severe and he was exposed to only a small amount of it. I would not recommend this product as there is clearly something is wrong with it.

She was on Blue Buffalo a few months and recently got sick and would not eat it anymore but would go to our other dogs bowl of Purina and gobble it down. Since quitting Blue Buffalo senior and getting it out of her system she is back to her old self and feels great! No more Blue Buffalo for her. Obviously it's bad dog food cause my dog stopped eating it after it made her sick. Bought 3 bags in all, this last new bag I recently opened will go in trash, a waste of money!

I have been feeding Blue Buffalo Wilderness for 3 or 4 years with no problems but when I got a new bag the food looked a little different. My dog started vomiting up to 5 times a day. That is about the time I read on FB that BB had started using ingredients made in China. It has been reported for a few years that ingredients from China have been killing pets or making them very sick. BB did not tell people that were selling their products that they were doing that or telling the people feeding the product that they had changed their supplier. I am very upset with them and have changed to a Canadian dog food and have told all my FB friends (mostly dog owners) what happened. I took the bag back to where I had bought it and told them and they did not know of changes made either. It is a store that only sells top brands so they were not happy either.

I didn't want to change food because I didn't want to mess up her little system. Recently her urine has been extremely dark and is even killing the grass where she goes. Around the beginning of April 2015 we purchased a new bag of Blue Buffalo Wilderness dog food. Fed our Springer for approximately 5 days out of the new bag. We have fed her BB brand port approx. 10 months after our Petsmart no longer carried her prior feed Avoderm. After 5 days of feeding she became what I would call depressed. Laying around not exercising much. On approx. ghetto 6th night after feeding from new bag, she started pacing and wouldn't go outside when we tried to coax her. She stayed at or near one of our sides as if in fear for that entire day.
After approx. 5 hrs after her feeding she had violent, uncontrollable diarrhea all over our house. Some of the areas of mess had watery bloody shows. Immediately started her on water only for hydration. Next 4 to 5 days her bowl movements were, for a better word, disgusting, looked as it was a clear capsules of mucus with what looked like yellow slime encased inside...stringy and plastic looking. Some of these looked like lining of her intestines. There was bloody watery discharge. After the 5th day of home-cooked rice and chicken stock, she started to heal. This dog food and Blue Buffalo should be ashamed of themselves!
I CALLED Petsmart to ask them if they knew if this problem with BB food. I told them after research there is a problem and why were they not aware of it? I took the food back for refund and will never trust either BB or Petsmart after this. Their comment was they had a great B rep. and she would have told them if food was making dogs sick. Today's headline: Blue Buffalo admits vilified ingredients (chicken by products purchased from China) but blames supplier. I am disgusted they can sell any food dog or not. All this took place April/May this year, 2015! DO NOT POISON YOUR PETS, do not feed this to your animals.

First, I am a disabled veteran, and swore by this company for over 5 years. Spending 3-5 times for food that was supposed to be good for your pets. Not at all, do REAL research, like all companies the pet food industry is outsourced to China, and other countries, this is not even manufactured in the US. If you are going to complain, make sure you have your facts. I found this out and was devastated. Mostly because of the money, I have a limited income and I was choosing this over food for me. I have gone to another brand, which is manufactured, processed, shipped only within the US and 1/4 the cost, plus fresh ingredients. Hopefully many more will see what this industry is doing as a whole and if you care about your animals, do the right thing. Research yourself, call yourself and don't just believe in the false advertising they all use.

I'd joined Costco just for their inexpensive pet foods. My cats seemed to do okay with it for awhile, but I noticed my dogs constantly scratching, so I did some research. I found out that Diamond - who manufactures many different pet foods including the Kirkland (Costco) brand had a lot of recalls of their various foods, and serious issues with cross-contamination! I then discovered that Blue Buffalo had only one recall and it was due to possible overload of Vitamin D - not salmonella like so many other foods had. It is an expensive food, but I decided to try it for all my animals. It's actually the first and only food that my dogs will eat without any additions - they love it that much! They stopped scratching within just a few days of being totally converted to BB (I did a slow conversion from the old food) and their energy level increased from lethargy on the old food to acting like happy pups on BB!
My dogs were 6 and 9 years old when I started them on this and my older dog has multiple myeloma cancer. She is now 11, and my other dog will be 9 - both seniors. I recently was given a bag of the Kirkland brand grain-free and I mixed it with the BB - shame on me. I thought that my younger dog was depressed he became so lethargic, and my older dog acted like she was starving! No more! It's strictly BB for my pets from now on! Not only is their food great - but their policies are wonderful and it's nice to know that I'm supporting canine cancer research!
So my dogs benefit in several ways from Blue Buffalo. I think that pets who have issues with such a high-quality food are being changed too quickly, or because of some underlying issue that was not previously detected. When you read the ingredients on the other foods - "animal liver" could be from euthanized dogs and cats, or road kill and if your pet has been eating those foods they are getting the drug residue from the euthanized animals. BB declares ALL of its ingredients - which makes it a number one choice for my beloved pets.

We specifically chose Blue Buffalo for our puppy many years ago for a higher level of food source, and no by-products. Well, we appeared to have been misled along with many others and have spent a significant amount of $$$$ money over the years for something that is not true to its claims. Consumers should receive some sort of reimbursement from the company. As far as my black lab mix dog. I was told by the manager at Petco to feed her a small 1\4 cup amount of the food and if she ate it up I wouldn't have to go through the transition period from her old food. She ate it right up, I thought this was positive. She was ok the next day but last night she started barking at 1:00 am. I took her outside and she had diarrhea. I took her inside and had to clean her up in the shower. Put her back to bed. Thirty minutes later she started barking again. Took her out and she had diarrhea again. Back to the shower. At 5:30am back outside with diarrhea again and the shower.
My girl has the cleanest back end on the block. Needless to say I didn't feed her BB for breakfast. She had diarrhea all day today and became very lethargic. She is usually full of energy. I took the food back to Petco today and received a refund. I told them what happened to my pup and no comment. I'm grateful I realized what the problem was. She ate a bit of her old food tonight and is almost back to her energetic self. Blue Buffalo be gone!!! Thank goodness my little pom is better. This from 1-1/4 cups of BB! First of all - it's required to give a star rating here, that's why I gave a one-star. The company really doesn't even deserve that! Frosty had been eating Blue Buffalo some several years, until February. I had purchased a new bag of the Freedom for him and he wouldn't eat it. He would take the kibble out of his dish and throw it (with his mouth) all over the kitchen and dining room. I thought at first that he was just gotten a little picky and I wasn't going to play that game, thinking that if he got hungry enough, he'd eat it. Well, he did eat it one day and after that he started throwing up. Within a week or so, the diarrhea started and became so severe he was painfully going every 30 minutes.
We've been to the vet three times now and he is on antibiotics and Endosorb for the diarrhea. He's been on chicken & rice/hambuger/egg mix for three weeks now, and I am hopeful he will get better. While talking with the vet, I mentioned that he was eating Blue Buffalo, but recently wouldn't touch it. The light clicked on when she said that her own dog just stopped eating Blue Buffalo. She too thought that he was being finicky, until she started doing some research. She told me to seal it tight and throw it out! She wouldn't even want the wild animals to eat this.
There is something that happened with this company and the processing and what they are processing as a premium dog food. Blue Buffalo has misguided the public in its advertising practices and now so many of our family pets are very sick. With the cost of this dog food and all the recent vet bills, I think that Blue Buffalo owes those people whose pets have suffered some sort of restitution; if nothing else, offer to pay for our vet bills. There is no reason in the world that this company should be allowed to poison our pets and be able to get away with it!
When Frosty can transition back to dog food, he will be getting Fromm Game Bird. Fromm has never had a recall and the company states "dedication to producing high quality, safe and consistent pet foods. We have made food safety our highest priority and have implemented HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) programs in our manufacturing plants. HACCP is a comprehensive preventative program used to identify vulnerabilities and establish documented controls to alleviate the potential issue." Fromm is a company that is transparent in its practices and they are rated 4.5 out of 5 stars.

My dog has always had stomach sensitivities since a bout of Giardia when he was a puppy. Our veterinarian suggested a Blue Buffalo fish-based diet since my dog had previously been on Acana's Pacifica and had done rather well on it. After about a week of being on the new diet, we began to notice strange behavior from him such as shaking and scratching his ears, and some minor unsteadiness. We figured it was just a minor illness like he's had before (he's never been the luckiest dog), but about a week later his symptoms got worse. His head seemed to tip to one side most of the time. When he would walk, he would stumble and veer off to the left side.
It took seeing a neurologist and brain scan after brain scan to discover that he was suffering from a severe vitamin B deficiency which the veterinarian and neurologist concluded to have been caused by the food. Even now that he's been fine for a few years since then, his left side is still weaker. His hind leg's response time is permanently altered and occasionally drags when he walks.

I have been feeding Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula for 4 years now. When I started using it, my poodle, lab/husky and Siberian husky couldn't get enough! They loved it and thrived. Two of these babies have passed away within the past 2 years (not due to the food, thankfully, just old age) and I continued feeding BB to my Siberian and our newest addition, hound mix. This was when I noticed something strange. We got Filipe (our hound mix) in January of this year. (2015) He took to the BB right away, but we noticed that he had a lot of stinky gas. I was a little surprised since we eased him into the BB over a months time.
Over the past 8 weeks or so his stomach has been growling like he has parasites (which he doesn't, he was taken care of before by a vet before we adopted him and had a clean bill of health) and he's acting like he is starving! He's still getting his 2 cups a day, but suddenly it just seems like it's not enough. He eats grass like it's going out of style, but hasn't started vomiting yet, thankfully. What really alerted me to something going on was his coat. It was shiny and his skin was in great shape when we got him in January. Now his coat is dull and his skin is flaky and dry!
I also noticed that he started scratching like a maniac. No fleas at all. We treated the yard anyway and used some Advantix on him as well as our Sibe, however they both started itching up a storm even after treatment. No problem at all with our cat Spencer who sleeps with Filipe. Our Sibe Lily is starting to show a brittle coat as well and has patches of hair that have changed color. I have inspected her skin, and it's no longer pink and healthy looking.
When I went to brush Filipe last night, a large patch of hair came out and it left a bloody spot!! Filipe has a very short coat, similar to a Doberman. The hair on his back is longer, so I use a special wire slicker brush that has close set bristles with a soft rubber ball at the end of each bristle. This removed the flakes from his scalp and catches the longer hair as well. This brush is so gentle I use it on my cat! This wasn't even a formal brushing! This was just a 'I know this makes you feel good, so I'm going to run the brush down your back!' I was in shock to see the hair just pop off and then a spot about the size of a silver dollar start to bleed!!!
This lead me on a hunt for supplements for their skin and then I thought, hold on, this should be the gold standard for dog food. I shouldn't have to give them anything for their skin! Lo and behold, after a google search I found all these complaints! I went out last night to look into the food bag after seeing the pictures on this site and was surprised to see that I have hardly any 'Life bits' in the food at all! The last bag was full of them, and Filipe loved them, eating like a fiend and then farting like a buffalo afterwards! I have had no incidences of runny stools or other serious issues but I felt that reporting bad skin and the fact that my dogs appear to be starving all the time was important. If your dog is starting to experience any of these issues, chances are it's this food. Look for the small things like this, and it could save you from the other horror stories posted here.

He has never had an accident in the house, and one night he had loose stools in the kitchen so we took him to the ER vet. Gave him IV fluids and tested for Giardia, which came back neg.
We kept thinking he would get better, but he wasn't, so then the blood started in his stools and him being lethargic and a weird coughing hacking especially at night. He is so skinny now, the vet can't figure out what's wrong, put him on royal canin, since he was losing protein to try and gain that back, diarrhea meds and prednisone to help with the inflamed bowels.
The vet was drawing at straws like "let's do an x-ray, a biopsy, this and that." We now have spent thousands of dollars to get back our healthy doggie. He has gained a little weight back but he looks so skinny, his ribs and spine sticking out. He is in better spirits though. Our other dog had diarrhea as well when she ate it. I feel the food got him sick and it tail spinned into making him so sick the vet can't pinpoint what's wrong, just that he might have Addison's now and was losing protein but kidney levels OK. The next day, he still would not eat or drink anything - day 5. I took some chicken to the hospital and he did eat a tiny bit. Long story short - I am now taking him on a daily basis for re-hydration. He is beginning to eat a bit more. I am hoping he continues to get better. I am so angry at Blue Wilderness because of what we are going through as a result of their food! PLEASE don't feed your dog any of their flavors! This cost me a very sick puppy and over $1,000 which I could ill afford.

I'm on here again to post, having originally posted my issues with Blue Buffalo dog and cat food back in Oct. 2013 when my pets became very sick! I had fed their products prior for 4 years up till 2013 when all my pets (4 dogs, 2 cats) suddenly became very ill. It was determined then by their behavior, multiple vet visits and severe sickness that Blue Buffalo had changed, something was indeed different with their products. I noticed even the cat's dry kibble looked and smelled slightly different. I took all my pets off of Blue Buffalo and immediately switched them onto Halo Pet Foods. I saw immediate results of positive improvement, however 1 cat and 1 dog it was too late for and they were diagnosed with kidney failure. The last 2+ years I've spent all my time traveling to and from vet appointments, giving them daily medications, preparing special meals for them, and having routine testing done to check their bodily organ functions.
I can positively say I've had an amazing vet and team that worked very hard to give them as much care as possible. Sadly though, their time was limited and as they did show improvement they never were able to fully recover. I finally had to look into their eyes and say goodbye, making the hardest decision possible to euthanize them. Blue Buffalo how dare you try to approach and sell me your products when I'm shopping in Petsmart or Petco! Your reps are not trained to know the truth, you or they didn't have to hug my pets and look into their eyes to say goodbye. You didn't cry, I did! You don't know loss because you profit off of this poison you sell to our pets and we as pet owners didn't know. I'll never get my two pets back, you stole their lives, their time in life was cut short because of your products! These were my babies and I will never forgive you for the pain and suffering you caused them.
I pray people will read this review and STOP BLUE BUFFALO from continuing to sell pet foods! Don't buy their products, the risk is too great and they don't care! They did NOTHING to assist with my situation and I did contact them by phone more than once! BLUE BUFFALO YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!

I tried dozens of different foods and nothing helped until I put him on BB Natural Fish and Sweet Potato dry food. Almost immediately his diarrhea stopped. Geordie has been on this same BB food for a year now and has rarely had any bowel problems since. This dog food was a life saver for my collie and is the only food I will ever buy for him.

My husband and I have had Coco, our Australian Shepherd/Collie mix, for the 6 years. In that time she has NEVER had ANY health issues what-so-ever. Not even allergies. This was until this past Saturday. On the 23rd of April we decided to switch our 2 dogs to Blue chicken recipe in an effort to clear up our other 10 month old puppies acne. Two days later, on April 23rd, we were at a park with our dogs and Coco had her first seizure. It was terrifying to see our little girl stiffen up and convulse! We immediately took her to the vet who did a complete neuro exam and blood work. Everything looked perfect. Kidneys were good. Liver was good. Sugar was good and electrolytes were fine.
At this point he sent her home with us telling us to take her back to the vet if she had another seizure. Four hours later she had another. We then had to take her to the emergency clinic where they ran additional tests to rule out infection, cancer and tumors. All of those were unremarkable so the emergency vet gave Coco the diagnoses of epilepsy. My heart was broken for my little girl but they kept her overnight for observation and to give her an IV dose of Keppra.
Over the next 24 hours I got very little sleep, would not let my phone leave my side and read essentially every article I could on canine epilepsy. Numerous articles suggested going over any recent changes made in the pets daily routine. The only change in Coco's routine was her food. I then began researching Blue and found that the company has had many lawsuits against them and found quite a few similar stories to Coco's. The vet recommended we take her off the food immediately.
My husband and I have thrown out that food (which is pretty pricey). Coco is now on a chicken and rice diet to clear her system out. No seizures so far. Whether the Blue food caused the seizure or was a trigger, who knows? However, I find it too much of a coincidence that two days after starting the food the seizures started in an otherwise healthy, happy pup. The fact that there were multiple stories just like Coco's is additional evidence that there might be a link between the Blue dog food and seizures. I hope that others will read this and think twice before giving their precious pet this food. My goal is to prevent other owners and pets from going through what my husband and I have been through over the last 48 hours. I encourage others with similar stories to post their review here. I hope to create awareness about this possible issue with the Blue dog food and prevent this from happening to anyone else.

We were given Samples when we picked up our Pups and we continued to use the Breeders Choice for a while but then attempted to switch to Blue Buffalo. We did the gradual switch over but could never go 100% Blue.
After about 10 months we went back to 100% Purina Pro Plan Focus for Puppy because the Puppies kept losing weight due to Diarrhea. They are now 15 months old and are in different homes and one dog showing signs of allergies so the Vet recommended a Diet change. We thought we'd try Blue again but both Dogs are having too loose Stools, we are still mixing with Purina Pro Plan... but stools are too soft and they are going potty too often... it does not stick with them at all. My Pup doesn't want to eat the Blue... I think she knows it is making her go too often so I am stuck with another expensive bag of Blue. Darn it! I just bought a bag of BB for my puppy yesterday 4/25/15 and their canned meats. My puppy is a small Silky terrier of about 13 weeks, and unfortunately I am beginning to see these bad changes in him. I got pulled in by their well advertised product. Right now he is experiencing diarrhea and making vomiting noises. I'm not gonna stick around and play "how much sicker can you get." I'm really disappointed right now and was expecting this to be a great brand. Time to go to the store to buy a big bag of chicken breast. Probably would have been cheaper and better anyway if I just did that the first time around. And before I transitioned him he was eating chicken and Cesar meat packages. I was told to get him off off Cesar by my vet. He quoted "It's crack for dogs and and contains who know what kinds of meats." Thanks to all the reviews here. This helped me a bunch.

I have been feeding my dog BB for 4 years. She had been doing fine up until recently. She has started to sleep all of the time, and sort of removed herself from the family. She is usually this happy pup who is always around or up under us. She has just not been herself. In addition, she has had loose stools, she drinks a full bowl of water in a day, and she has started to eat random stuff off of the floor. She has also had some vomiting, and has had a cyst pop up for no reason. The VET said the cyst was nothing to worry about. Amber has also been sneezing a lot lately. I had no idea what the issue was up until a few days ago. I had just associated to her eating lint, etc. Well, boy was I wrong.
As I went to purchase my BB dog food the other day at PetSmart, this nice lady told me to do some googling on this food. She advised that the company was purchased by another company and that they have switched the formula, and are outsourcing to China. She also went on to say that a lot of dogs have been getting sick. Well, this made perfect sense to me since my dog had not been herself for sometime. After I started to google BB, I was instantly saddened by all of the dogs and cats that have suffered due to this product. Furthermore, I was saddened that I never made the connection with my own dog. Amber has been just out of it for sometime, and had been experiencing a lot of what I have learned about here on this site.
I immediately started to research other brands, and after about 6 hours of research, I switched her to Orijen (a very high quality reputable food and company). In two days, she has not eaten random stuff off of the floor, she actually played some, she did sleep a lot, but I am guessing once this BB is fully out of her system, she will be fine. Overall, she seems to have more energy. She has not drank a full bowl of water, which means that she may have been severely dehydrated before. Her stool is fine now.
I am grateful for the lady who took the time to inform me. I also advised another lady who I saw in the process of buying BB. She advised me that all three of her dogs are sick, and ironically her next stop was to the VET with her dogs. She put her food back as well. I eat high quality meals, I would not expect anything less for my pet. It's sad when consumers are misled, thus we feel as if we are doing the right thing. I am just glad that I found out before it was too late. BB should be taken completely off the market.

I decided to try Blue Buffalo a couple of months ago for my two Boxers. I'd had them on Nutro for years and thought that Blue Buffalo was supposed to be an "excellent" dog food. I changed them gradually adding their Nutro to the Blue until I could give them only Blue. So, after about a month or two on Blue, they started getting horrible gas and diarrhea. They eventually had upset stomachs and one started vomiting. I even got some Science Diet for intestinal problems from my Vet, and bought them a good probiotic for dogs - but nothing helped. I have since gotten them back on the Nutro and they are great! They don't go to the bathroom as much and the stools are smaller. No gas, no bloating or diarrhea. I can't believe that a dog food can be that bad. I'm so sorry my babies!!!

Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Large Breed Senior Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe almost killed our dog. Our male Rough Collie is 12.5 years old, and has only recently begun to show his age. Because we believed a dog food made specifically for the special needs of an aging dog, by what we believed to be a reputable company, would ensure continued good health, we made the change in our dog's diet from the adult Iams kibble he'd been eating for at least the last five years to the above-mentioned Blue Buffalo product. We transitioned him to the new food over the course of 7 days, slowly increasing the ratio of new food to old without incident.
After our dog had been eating Blue Buffalo Life Protection exclusively for ten days, he became seriously ill. We woke up one morning to find him suffering from uncontrollable trembling, severe diarrhea, loss of bladder control while sleeping, and muscle weakness. By the time we got him to the vet that afternoon, he also had a temperature of 105.5 degrees and was hot to the touch. Our veterinarian diagnosed him with pancreatitis and dehydration. He received sub-cut fluids and we took him home with a prescription of Clavamox and instructions to feed him a bland diet.
He was much improved the following day, having been re-hydrated, fed two meals of white rice and boiled chicken, and having gotten two doses of the antibiotics into his system. His health steadily improved with every day that passed, and he'd recovered his strength by the fourth day of treatment. Beginning the fifth day after his visit to the vet, we began adding into his chicken and rice a little of the Blue Buffalo kibble. After completing a 7-day course of antibiotics, our dog was again himself, healthy and happy. We put him back on the Blue Buffalo Life Protection kibble exclusively. Seven days later, he was stricken ill again.
The second instance of illness saw our dog unable to even lift his head. We had to carry him outside in the middle of the night and hold him up while he had diarrhea. The second visit to the vet resulted in the same diagnosis as the first: pancreatitis. Our dog had lost 7 pounds in one week. Yet again, we began treating him with antibiotics and a bland diet. It was plain to us at that point that this product, Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Large Breed Senior Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe, was the catalyst for both bouts of illness.
We threw away the remaining Blue Buffalo kibble - which was the majority of a 30-pound bag - and attempted to add back to our dog's diet the Iams kibble he'd eaten before the fateful change to Blue Buffalo. However, he can no longer tolerate it. On the advice of our veterinarian, we then bought a limited ingredient food for dogs with sensitive stomachs. He was unable to tolerate even that - quickly experiencing diarrhea and weakness on both the Iams and limited ingredient kibbles. Now, because of this product, we have to feed our dog ONLY boiled chicken, white rice, and green beans. Anything else immediately makes him ill. We also have to give him daily nutrition supplements to replace those he would normally get from a quality kibble.
We are so angry that instead of maintaining our senior dog's relative good health, this dog food has done the exact opposite. Not only has it adversely affected our dog's health, but we've also put out over $700 in vet bills over a three-week time period. Because of this product, we are now required to spend hours each week preparing our dog's diet - and will have to do so for the remainder of his life. Needless to say, we will never buy another Blue Buffalo product EVER. We have related our horrific tale to everyone we know - including our followers on Twitter and Instagram, as well as our Facebook friends - with the hope that we might prevent another family from having to endure so painful an experience with such devastating and lasting consequences.

About a month ago I purchased a bag of Blue Buffalo dog food (the same one I have been buying since we adopted our dog back in August 2014) and noticed that the bag had changed. It was no longer paper with the wax paper lining on the inside, instead it was plastic. I remember thinking to myself "I hope the formula hasn't changed along with the new look" since when we first introduced our dog to Blue Buffalo, it took a couple weeks for his stool to go from runny back to normal. At the time we had just attributed it to a change in diet and he was just getting used to a richer food than what he was being fed at the rescue shelter. Well, after delving into this new bag for less than a week, I started noticing some changes in my dog's appetite. The food, which was usually scarfed down in one sitting, was only half eaten and would only be finished as the day went on and his hunger won out over his obvious distaste for the food so he would finish it.
He woke up one night in the middle of the night throwing up all over the bedroom floor and continued to throw up once I got him outside. A few hours later he woke up again, this time dry-heaving across the room. I got him outside again and he proceeded to throw up what little contents were left in his stomach. The next morning he wouldn't eat, didn't have the energy he normally has (he's a Belgian Malinois, a very high-energy dog), he started having very stinky gas and started having very loose stool. At first I thought he may have a bowel obstruction, but after a call to his vet I was able to rule that out since he was showing no signs of pain in his belly when pressed on and he was clearly able to go to the bathroom. The only thing I could think of that had changed was his dog food. Turns out I'm not the only one whose dog has been having a negative reaction to Blue Buffalo.
I'm just glad I was able to figure it out before it was too late or before I was out thousands of dollars in vet fees. I did some research and found that Blue Buffalo has been outsourcing some of their ingredients from other countries and now see that they are in a lawsuit for their use of animal by-products. Had I known this before, I would have never started him on this brand of dog food. I switched his food yesterday, to a brand that makes everything in house and is made in the USA, and he is already acting like his normal self. His energy is back and his stool is already starting to return to normal.
I have contacted the company via email and have yet to hear back from them. Luckily I was able to get a full refund from the store I purchased the food from, but I really hope that the company fixes what's wrong. I hate to think of all the animals that are getting sick off of their bad product. I have already let everyone I know to stop feeding Blue Buffalo to their pets.

I am writing you today to bring to your attention that your food is horrible for both cats and dogs! I have 2 cats and 2 dogs that were exclusively on your food. One dog since I brought her home as an 8 week puppy in February 2014. The older dog was diagnosed with severe bladder stones and the puppy started to show symptoms a few days after. This is horrible that a "high grade" food could cause this much pain to my fur babies. Upon starting a special diet and medication for both dogs I pulled the cats off the food as well because they have been withdrawn from eating and their bowel movements have become more frequent and changed in consistency.
This is horrible since I have never had issues with my animals until I started feeding them Blue. I will be watching for a lawsuit as there are MANY people complaining of issues with your food. I pray you take a serious look at your food and pull it from shelves. You are causing animals unnecessary pain and discomfort and not to mention thousands in unnecessary vet bills for people. We have been using Blue for years. It is truly the best thing we could have done for all of our dogs and cats. We currently have 5 dogs and 3 cats. Two of our dogs are on Basics. One of them has food allergies and the other has digestive issues. They both do very well on it. Our chihuahua used to itch, scratch, and rub his skin raw. Vets would say it's fleas.. it's grass and suggest doing an allergy panel which range from several hundred to nearby a thousand dollars. 3 weeks later his skin was less dry, the scabs from where he had dug at his skin started to heal and hair started to grow back. 3 years later he has never had another problem. Our larger dogs are on wilderness as they are very active. I think the biggest problem most people have is they feel because their dogs have no issues, transitioning from grocery brands or natural brands that a full two week or more transition isn't necessary.
Blue is very nutrient dense and rich for a lot of dogs. Not only that, but dry food in general is 18-20% water per bag. Canned food is 75-80% water. Raw food is anywhere from 60-75% moisture on average. A primary kibble diet is very dehydrating for all dogs and cats especially something as nutrient dense as Blue. I always recommend adding warm water or sodium free broth to moisten the kibble if you aren't supplementing with canned, raw or moistened dehydrated foods.
The idea that people have that dry is best because it cleans teeth is a myth. That is like saying you aren't going to brush your teeth anymore because you started eating cereal without milk. Aside from moisture being a problem. Ideally most dog foods should be between 18-28% protein. Anything under 20 is considered low. Over 26 is considered high. So some foods like wilderness is extremely high at 34 percent and for a dog that doesn't properly burn that excess protein, it can damage organs.
A food that meat rich is designed for a working breed dog that actually works. Like training for the Iditarod. Police work. Ability course. If your dog plays in the backyard 3-4 hours a day, they don't consider that extreme exercise. Blue has 4 formulas targeted towards very specific needs. It is important you know which to choose. How to transition and speak with someone who can answer all of your questions and concerns. There is no such thing as the perfect food for every dog but from personal experience, it has nourished and saved my babies lives. All of my dogs were rescues. They are so happy and healthy most people would have never known they were mistreated in the past. God bless.

I have been purchasing Blue Buffalo Puppy Food for just over a year now for my 7 lb. Shih Tzu. The problem that I have come across during this time is that she is unable to eat the Vitabits as they are too hard for her teeth to bit through. I thought in the beginning that this was just a problem as she was a young puppy but have now realized that it is purely because they are extremely hard and not able to be chewed by her small mouth. She is now just over 2 years old and this should no longer be an issue at this age. The vet is also now concerned because she is not being able to eat her food properly that she is encountering more tartar on her teeth than should be at her age. Whereas my older dog of 2 1/2 years and 50 lbs has no problem chewing through all the food.
I wonder why there is such a problem with this in all your bags of dog food. As we all know puppy’s teeth as well as small dogs and senior dogs can have difficulty with eating food that is too hard. So why would your company not have other versions of your food available for these situations. As much as I spend each month on dog food to feed both my dogs what is supposed to be health food I feel that this is not an acceptable situation. Because of this problem I have decided to change my dog’s brand of food to one that is not only just as healthy but also to one that both my dogs are able to eat and get all the benefits of the nutrients from the food they are eating. Unfortunately I do not have receipts of these bags of food as I use cash for food and up until recently I did not have a rewards card through Petsmart. If I realized this was going to be an issue I would have followed through on this a long time ago!

About a month ago his right side of his body went paralyzed, he can't blink his eye, his entire face is limp, and he stumbles on his right side when walking. I brought him to the vet, he recommended I IMMEDIATELY switch his diet to ANY other dog food than Blue Buffalo, and informed me his kidneys were shutting down. It's been about 3 weeks since he switched his food, he has lost weight, stopped drinking so much water, stopped panting, and MOST importantly we found out his kidneys are doing much better today after extensive and expensive testing. I recently swapped over to BB in Dec of 2014. I thought that I was buying a top of the line good dog food. How could I have been so foolish? My wife and I have a Yellow Lab and we HAD a Jack Russell Mix. They were both energetic, always active, and very healthy. Chester, which was our JR developed issues with this dog food about a week or so, and had I'd done my research like I should have my buddy may still be with us right now. His whole eating habits changed. Bella's (Lab) didn't until the last week or so. Chester had did have diarrhea, which went from that to having to put him down in just 3 days. I had noticed that he wasn't pooping. It was as if he had some kind of blockage. He would try to go, but nothing would come out. We immediately took him to the Vet to have tests run on him, but of course everything came back normal.
We have a 2 year old so of course the logical thinking with the issues that he was having is maybe he had swallowed something and it was blocking his intestines. Once again, wrong. We gave him X-Rays, and nothing showed. It crossed my mind that it could have been the BB, but Bella was fine, but after reading a lot of the posts, I see now that Bella wasn't fine either. She had extreme gas issues which I thought to be as normal because she was on something new.
As Chester worsened and our pockets got lighter we did everything our Vet asked. She gave him an enema to see if he could pass whatever it was in his system. He was severely dehydrated, but he was drinking just fine. We put him on a bland diet and he was eating, but he still was not able to relieve himself. He was bloated and in 24 hours of him looking as if he were getting stronger, he was out with my wife and as she was walking back with him, he was coming up the stairs of our deck and he just collapsed. I went to lift him and he just seemed to be in excruciating pain in his abdominal area. We rushed him to the Vet the next morning and there we found out that we would have to put him down because his core temp had dropped. Right now, I am just infuriated because dumb me did not follow my mind and check out this crap BB. It's like it slowly and methodically is poisoning our pets.
Well, that was January and now we have my pride and joy Bella starting to have stomach issues. I had noticed her not eating as she once did over the last week or so. She still has had good bowel movements but last night she started vomiting clear liquid. I've been watching her closely for the last couple of hours and her condition doesn't seem to be getting worse, but it doesn't seem to be improving either. I'm trying to get her into the Vet as soon as possible, because she has NEVER had any issues. Especially when it comes to eating. Right now, I'm just really worried because I hope I'm not too late. She's still moving and walking, but all she will do is drink water. I gave her a can of Chicken Noodle soup and she hasn't touched it. I have no doubt that it is the BB that is the cause, no doubt in my mind.
I think it's safe to say that if over 1000 dog owners out there are writing the same effects, it's not some coincidence. This BB is CRAP and they need to be investigated and held accountable for their product. They will be getting a phone call from me and if my baby doesn't make it through this somebody is getting their butts kicked. Like so many others out there, our pets are our families and losing family to gross negligence is never acceptable. I'm really angry right now because my dog is suffering. I feel as though I have let her down. I'm supposed to protect her and I let my guard down and thought that I was feeding her good food. I now know that I've been slowly killing her and I now know that I killed my boy Chester with this crap. They tried to tell me and I didn't listen. Well, they have to my attention now, and BB is going to pay.

Then March 24 2015 throwing up and diarrhea. March 25 2015 contacted our Vet due to continuingly throwing up with diarrhea. My bulldog was placed in ICU after blood work came back which showed he was in full kidney and liver failure.
Following day more testing was done to prove that he did not have any cancer or tumors was not suffering from poisoning do you rat poison or antifreeze. The only answer Buffalo blue dog food! March 29, 2015 I received a call that my dog had gone into cardiac arrest and passed away. The vet tried everything possible to save a life and ran tons of tests with no answers others than the new dog food! Please beware of this dog food. My family and children lost their truly loved Dog Harley. I have never been more heart broken than I am now for switching his dog food. I have full proof from the vet of everything I have stated.

I bought my mix Shih tzu the bananas and yogurt treats last week. Now he is acting very lethargic, acid reflux, V and his appetite has decreased. I couldn't figure it out what was going with him, until I went over what he was doing, and, or eating differently. Then, it clicked that I had bought this treats. I decided to Google for reviews and to my astonishment there are not many good ones, and with similar symptoms as my doggie. Except that these reviews are on the actual dog food but is the same brand and ingredients. I will stop give my dog these treats and monitor hopefully his improvement.

I have been feeding my two male cats the Blue Buffalo wet and dry food for the past few weeks. Maybe 3 weeks max. Just a few days ago my cat had become blocked. The vet had given me an update on the situation and had asked what food I was feeding him. I explained I was feeding the blue buffalo wet food during the day and as a supplement for his teeth and very small amount of the dry food at night. She then went on to say that she has seen many issues with animals who are on the blue buffalo diet. She explained the crystals formed in his bladder which caused him to become blocked and caused him to be in severe pain. I have since taken my other male cat which is his litter mate, off of the blue buffalo to make sure he does not have this issue. When a cat becomes blocked it starts to poison itself with the urine that cant come out, the company Blue Buffalo is poisoning my cat and causing him immense pain.
Now we are stuck with expensive medical bills and even with getting him unblocked there is a high chance he will become blocked again and will need the invasive surgery to turn his male parts into lady parts in order for him to live a normal life without being blocked. This is completely unacceptable and I have read many articles as of this last week about the advertising lies. Please help me with this as I should not have to pay over $3,000 for the lies and the pain your company has caused my animal.

Our Westie has been eating BB for several years, bought a new bag of BB Adult Healthy Weight Chicken & Rice about a month and a half ago and he immediately began having GI issues (vomiting). After a few weeks without improvement we took him to the vet. X-rays showed inflammation in his lower bowel. We switched him to bland chicken & rice diet for 7 days at vet’s recommendation. He was symptom free during that period of time while not eating BB. We started him back with BB 5 days ago and he has vomited 4 times since. I feel very certain his vomiting is directly related to the new bag of food. I have also emailed the company to notify them of the issue. I will be switching him to a new brand immediately.

My cat, Bitty, was on Blue Buffalo for approximately two and a half years due to her allergies. I assumed this was a high quality and grain free option. She enjoyed the food and ate enough to maintain a healthy weight of 8.9 pounds. Then the trouble started. In December, she began throwing up entire cans of food multiple times a day. Her weight dropped to 7.6 pounds according to vet records. She developed daily diarrhea and loose stools.
I have now taken her to the vet over these issues over five times. She has been off of Blue Buffalo food since January, but transitioning to a new food has been difficult. She received a steroid shot and antibiotics to try to heal her issues. She has also been very itchy and developed a rodent ulcer (all signs of allergies). I have run two basic blood tests. I now have had to run an advanced GI panel. I'm waiting on the results.
The vet is tying to figure out if this is pancreatitis or inflammatory bowel disease. Bitty is having trouble gaining any weight back. This has been an awful and expensive ordeal. I just hope we can find a way to help her recover from this mess. It appears that her symptoms are very similar to the other complaints listed here.

I have for the last three days admitted my dogs one day at a time into the doggie hospital for pancreatitis and the only thing I did differently was purchase a brand-new bag of Blue Wilderness dog food. I went online and saw in the consumer report several dogs over the last few days who have also eaten Blue dog food are being diagnosed with pancreatitis . If anybody knows how much we love our dogs, this is the most upsetting thing for us because we had no control over this and want other people to be aware if you feed your dog Blue dog food proceed with caution. However, I have learned from this experience and will be making my dogs homemade dog food from this day forward!

I switched to Blue Buffalo Sensitive Stomach for cats because my cat had been vomiting on another food. She's been in several different foods and I suspect she has an allergy because her symptoms on nearly all foods are the occasional vomiting and consistent constipation (but she won't eat wet food to counter that). Anyhow when I switched to BB she almost immediately got diarrhea but I didn't realize it was the food so I tested her for everything: urine, stool panel, and full blood panel and it all came back negative. She started to get explosive diarrhea and I got super scared. The vet suggested it could be the food and I switched her to another brand. Her symptoms started to improve after a few days. She had diarrhea almost a month and I was giving her fluids every day because she was getting so dehydrated! Please do not buy this for your pets, it could kill them!

My puppy, english lab/brittany female was on some uncle jack walmart food when I got her and I switched her to blue life bits puppy food without a slow change and yep she had the runs for a day or so... that is expected when a hard change is made. I just didn't have a choice. She is 4 months old and loves the food, has lots of energy, is healthy. Her coat is great, poops are very solid. DON'T BE STUPID. IF YOU ARE GOING TO CHANGE YOUR PETS FOOD DO IT SLOWLY. If you don't then don't complain about the issues you caused your pet.

I began feeding my dog Blue Buffalo about 2 years ago. My dog had a urinary tract infection with struvite crystals and was put on a Hills prescription diet. When the crystals were no longer present I looked for a quality dog food rather than following my vet's recommendation to switch to Science Diet. I chose Blue Buffalo based on ratings and the fact that the food included cranberries, reportedly beneficial for urinary health. Things were great for a while-- he liked the food and there was no recurrence of crystals. He had problems with the fourth bag. Although he ate a few meals, he refused to eat any more. He also developed an intense, nauseating odor, not anal gland related.
I threw that bag away and bought a bag of Blue Basics. He was fine for two bags but history repeated itself with the third bag. Again, he ate a few servings before he refused to eat any more, the noxious odor returned and he got very sick. We are now waiting for test results relating to possible kidney disease. He has never had a repeat of the struvite crystals and has never had an immediate negative reaction to any other food. I want to note that the kibble at the end of the last "good" bag of Blue Basics seemed to have an oily residue.

Around five years ago, our golden retriever was getting numerous hot spots which became infected. The vet determined it was allergies and that we needed to change his diet. We switched him to Blue Buffalo Salmon which later became Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon. From November 2014 until a month a go - he had three bouts of infected hot spots that required three rounds of antibiotics. I had noticed the most recent bag of Blue Buffalo Salmon did not smell (fishy) like it had previously in the past and then I read all these reviews. I have no doubt that they have changed the formula and it was making him ill. We switched his food to a 100% salmon/grain free food and the hot spots have vanished and I have an energetic happy dog. I would strongly advise people to stay away from this product.

When we first adopted our dog, the shelter told us that he was being fed Purina and provided us with two days worth of food for him. We continued purchasing Purina and noticed that he would always wake up with green gunk around his eyes and his coat smelled really bad, even a few days after showering him. He's an apartment dog in NYC so there is no yard for him to get dirty in. During the first summer with us, he had terrible skin allergies. It got so bad that he had to be given steroid shots. Our vet recommended that we switch his food, but did not recommend a brand.
After doing our research we started feeding him BB and eventually BB Wilderness. His allergies are much better, he no longer has the green gunk in his eyes in the morning, and he smells much better. With regards to the reviews that "immediately upon switching other dogs have diarrhea and internal bleeding," I find that extremely hard to believe. We were informed by several vets that the proper way to change a dog's food is to slowly add the new food to his regular food until it is completely replaced. Even then, it takes 6-8 weeks to see the results that the new diet has on the dog. We were also informed that when switching his food, he may have soft stool while adjusting to the new diet. I strongly recommend this brand and I also recommend speaking to a vet about the proper way to change a dog's diet.

It was moldy (mold is toxic to animals), I had to send both my dogs to the vet to get a stomach wash. Problems can happen with any dog food that is made here in America. The company had admitted to this happening before and paid the vet bill. I only purchase from a store that has a quick turnover not from a store that has the product for a long time on their shelves without rotating the stock. I also open every bag from the bottom and pour it into a clear container. Carefully checking for mold. Everyone should make this a practice when opening a new bag.

I can personally say that about 70% of our vomiting/lethargic/diarrhea cases in our clinic are from pets on Blue Buffalo. With all sorts of testing done to rule out medical issues, it comes down to the food. It also throws their liver values on their blood work way too high to even be able to do any anesthetic procedures (spay/neuter/dental) on them. This company doesn't go through rigorous testing nor are they overseen by veterinary dietary specialists. We tell these clients to take their pets off this food and they are back to normal almost immediately.

My 5 yr old golden has always had some very occasional regurgitation of a clear, slimy liquid. I switched his food to a grain free over a year ago and have had only a couple of regurg. incidents since then. In Dec. 2014 I started using Blue Wilderness chicken recipe because we don't like a fish smell. A few weeks later he had an episode of severe lethargy and lack of appetite. He just wanted to lie down, not moving. Scared us silly. The vet did blood work but all of that was normal. Put him on an antacid and in 24 hrs he was back to normal.
Last week, we had another episode of the lethargy BUT he never lost his appetite this time. This episode was longer and the antacid did bring him out of it. The vet seems to attribute this to "gastritis" as well as his being 15 lbs overweight and wants to put him on Royal Canin low fat GI (which gets poor rating from Dog Food Advisor). I don't know if Blue Wilderness has anything to do with the bouts of lethargy and what my vet diagnosed vaguely as "gastritis" but it's highly coincidental and I'm suspicious enough of a causation that I'm rather frantically searching for something other than Blue Wilderness.

So, I did some research and found out that a lot of the dog food is not the most nutritious. One of the most highly recommended by dogfoodadvisor was the Blue Buffalo brand. I switched him over gradually as recommended. He started having loose stool, and then throwing up. I took him to the vet, and she said he had an infection and was in pain. Chicken only for two weeks. This is second or third time I have had incidents of him throwing up. He never used to do that. Definitely coming off this food. I started my 8 week old black lab on puppy BB because I had heard such great things and wanted to start him on a great food for great health. We started with the small bag of puppy chicken and wild rice and he was fine. The 2nd bag was the 15lb and he was fine. Our last bag we bought was the 30lb bag we purchased just a few weeks ago. The 2nd day after that bag was opened, our lab was throwing up and had severe diarrhea, explosive diarrhea. We assumed he had gotten into something, even though we watch him like a hawk.
I started him on a chicken broth for 24 hours then after that he got boiled chicken and rice. After he was back to normal with his stools, we began adding the BB with the chicken and rice back into his feedings again. The very next day, he had explosive diarrhea again with vomiting. I still wasn't convinced it was the food until I stopped the BB altogether and placed him back on chicken and rice and now he is fine again. One thing I wanted to add in all this, he wouldn't drink water when he was on the BB. He's been to vet 3 times in the last month and she recommended WE NOT feed the BB as there have been horrible experiences with many pet owners.
Jasper is a vibrant, active black lab puppy and I am horrified that I fed him that stuff and could possibly been poisoning him. I am thankful others have reported here what they have experienced. I will NOT feed my pet this brand anymore and I will tell everyone who will listen that the brand made my dog very sick. I am shocked and dismayed after having read all the reviews here on this product that it's still on the shelves. I believe it to be poison. Anytime you change things from proven success and outsource to save the ole mighty dollar, well clearly there are issues and as I have read in the media, seen on TV and online = law suits. These are our pets, a part of our families, doesn't Blue Buffalo care??

I have a dog which I needed a senior food for. My vet suggested Blue as one of several other "good" foods on the market. Right after starting my little girl on Blue she began having severe gas and "belly rolling." I hadn't thought of the food at all at this point. I figured maybe she was eating too fast. The gas continued and finally after about a month of gas which was getting worse I asked my vet about that. It was just getting to be too much at this point and was cause for some concern in my opinion.
My vet suggested the Blue along with several other options that may be the cause. I also consulted another vet on the gas with same response. But the Blue was the ONLY cause that made any sense from their list of causes. My dog has never eaten garbage or other nasty stuff. At this point I had fed a full bag of Blue while switching her over to the new food. I decided to finish the 2nd bag I had started with a "wait and see" approach. By the time I had fed 1/2 of the 2nd bag my dog came down with moderate to severe diarrhea. Unable to curb it and the weekend nearing, off to the vet we went. I was told that the chances were very good it was caused by the Blue food. I was feeding the Life Protection Formula Senior.
My vet had others coming in with the same problem after feeding around a bag and 1/2 of Blue for the first time. One Golden Retriever was worse than my dog. That one was vomiting also. In my case, the Blue food is the only thing that could be making her sick. As soon as I stopped feeding it and fed just white rice with home cooked meat and sweet potato the gas stopped instantly and the diarrhea slowed to a stop after a few days of meds with the new diet. Am starting on "old" food, EVO, tomorrow and will look for another "senior" later from some other brand than BLUE!! I will NEVER feed anything made by BLUE company again!

I recently switched from Fromm to BB as recommendation of some moron at PETCO. Why would I listen to someone from PETCO is obviously my mistake. I took into consideration how natural and popular BB is. I thought, and was told it was a good switch from the food my English bulldog breeder originally had him on. My poor Reggie has suffered from constant diarrhea and loss of appetite. I knew something wasn't right when my three-month-old dog didn't get excited over breakfast. I recently changed to Royal Canin puppy for Bulldogs and awaiting results in his stool. I'm positive the diarrhea is due to Blue Buffalo puppy chicken and rice.
I'm keeping my prayers constant for my little guy, but I would steer anyone clear of buying this food. My vet had also advised me when we went to the vet for shots it was not a good choice. By pure accident I came across several negative comments about BB, after recently using CA to post a scathing negative review about the sleazy experience I'd experienced with the Jackson-Hewitt Tax Preparers. I cannot and would not challenge another owner's experience...We all love our animals too much to waste time slamming a company for no reason.
My own experience, however, has been outstanding. I have a "three-fer" -- a healthy 12 year-old, purebred golden retriever trained for service, search and therapy tasks. His initial six months were on Natural Balance (no problems) before switching to Blue Buffalo products. I followed gradual weaning to the new product and did so through his stages of growth -- adult to senior -- and am glad to report no problems. He's served in Haiti, Central America, and throughout the South-Eastern United States with absolutely no problems I could ever acquit to his diet. We're now on our second pup, as our "Senior" K9 is semi-retired. I've continued to feel confident in the B.B. brand but will stay attentive as I respect that others may have not been as fortunate.
