Ever since I switched my cat to blue buffalo, she has started to lose hair. The vet says she does not have any illnesses, so I am assuming that this issue is from Blue Buffalo cat food, since the problem started when we started buying that brand about 4 months ago. Her obsessive grooming is also causing a lot of hairballs, which I never had to deal with before. I've noticed a lot of other reviews stating that the product has caused a lot of allergies in their cats and dogs, so I am guessing that it has caused the same issue with my cat, since excessive grooming/hair loss is a sign on allergies and discomfort. I do not recommend this brand, especially since they keep claiming that the complaints are competitors and are made up. This is so sad and is invalidating the severe problems that their product is causing to our pets. I sent the company a complaint, but since they just claimed on facebook that these complaints are not true at all, I'm guessing they will not do anything about it.

My dog has been eating Blue Buffalo for over a year. I buy toe fish and sweet potato. Suddenly with the bag I purchased at the end of June, she started vomiting and had diarrhea. We had to take her to vet and no other problems when tests and labs run. I put her on royal canine gastro food and with meds she recovered. She is still not eating much but refuses the blue buffalo completely. I am convinced this batch of food has a problem! Blue buffalo do a recall. Own up to it!!

Our 10 mo. Lab has been on Large Breed Wilderness Puppy for 7 months. During the entire time of her eating this product, she has had the worst smelling gas (extra bad!) and her waste in the yard is also extremely bad. We have another dog and it doesn't smell like that. Also, she was on a different food when we got her and never had that issue with that brand (we had to change because it wasn't a large breed and she wasn't getting the right nutrients). Her coat is gorgeous. She has been doing well on it (except the extremely stinky gas and poo) since we started - until recently.
Recently she started itching. And then she had (in less than one week), 2 large diarrhea blowouts in her crate during the day. We took her to the vet immediately. She was tested and no parasites. She is also up to date on all vaccines and heartworm preventative. She has not have any changes in her environment nor feeding schedule (which could be some of the factors of diarrhea). The vet has "guessed" that it MIGHT be a food allergy to her food. Currently, she is on medicine for her GI tract and preventing diarrhea and also a probiotic. She is eating a bland diet of chicken and rice. We will slowly introduce her back to the food, but for us personally, we are going to go to a new brand. We were satisfied at first, but we believe it is upsetting our dog's stomach and causing issues that result in diarrhea. We have no proof it is a food allergy, but it's the last on the list of what could be causing the issue with her recently.

We had been feeding our dog Blue Buffalo for almost two years. Suddenly he developed diarrhea. We brought him to the vet, he was tested for parasites, and everything came back okay. We took him off the Blue Buffalo Life Protection and now the diarrhea is gone and he's back to his old self. I don't know whether this is a bad batch or they changed the formula, but we're done with Blue. He is now on Fromm's, which is not sold in large chains, but is well worth finding at local pet stores.

To begin, I have a 7 month old Pyr, a 12 week old Pyr and a 12 week old Lab... I know my dogs <3 After a LOT of research I put my dogs on Blue Buffalo. I have always fed my dogs Beneficial or a Purina brand. Their stools because VERY watery immediately (diarrhea, which I credited the food change... up to a week anyway) My oldest Pyrenees stopped eating all together. I tried mixing it with water and he ate a little. It seemed he ate just enough to stop the hunger but not hardly anything at all. Skip another week, a new bag and here we are today. All 3 of my puppies are throwing up and won't touch their food.... So, tomorrow I will be going BACK to my Beneficial where I have had no problems. I'm sorry but to pay THAT much for dog food just for it to make my dog sick is absurd..... I call **.

I had been feeding my dog Blue Buffalo Wilderness for quite some time until recently when his stool started to become very soft, then devolved into complete chocolate milk, then blood. Went to vet, obtained antibiotics, they worked a little, but the extreme liquid stool returned immediately after the script ran out. All tests from vet came back negative. Realized it was the food when a friend's dog ate the food and her stool turned to mush and she had extreme gas as well. Stopped the food and my dog is improving. The company MUST order an immediate recall.

My Siamese cat had been losing weight, vomiting and having diarrhea with Purina cat chow on and off for years. I changed to Blue Buffalo and he has gained weight, no diarrhea and his coat is very healthy. My other cat, a medium hair domestic, has gained 4-5 pounds over 8 months. I only feed less than a quarter cup twice daily. Is anyone else having this problem?

We have a 13-week-old French Mastiff and we thought long and hard about the dog food to put her on. So we decided on Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Large Breed Puppy. We started her on it July 4th and I noticed she didn't devour it like her previous food. She would just eat it gradually and at times not even finish what was in her bowl. As of yesterday morning she has had really bad diarrhea. We took her to the vet and they couldn't pinpoint why she was having this issue. They gave us medication for her to help with the diarrhea. She still has it and today she wouldn't even eat the food I put out for her. So I got online and saw all these similar issues. I will be taking her off this food and going back to her food she was on previously.

We have 2 lab mix puppies 8 months old. Fed them purina one puppy formula since getting them in March. They were fine but pooped a lot. A friend who works for the FDA suggested we try a higher grade food so we went to Pet Smart and bought Blue Buffalo. The male got diarrhea bad but vet visit revealed nothing. The female then also began having diarrhea so we switched to their sensitive stomach formula. No improvement. We are going to buy Iams today. Will post again soon. Also going to file a complaint with the FDA. After paying vet bills and carpet cleaning, vacation will be scant!

My dog will be turning 6 in August and she has never had any health problems. Around March/April she started having severe allergy symptoms (sneezing uncontrollably, coughing, itching like crazy) so I booked her a vet appointment whenever her little cheek started to swell up. I have been feeding her Beneful since she was a puppy because I thought it was a good brand (so the advertisements say and the bags and the price). The vet determined she has allergies and her anal glands were full so they had to be squeezed.
Upon researching why dogs' anal glands get stopped up, I found out it was because they don't have enough fiber in their diet. I thought that was weird since I feed her Beneful... which has tons of vegetables and vitamins and protein... After a very sickening few hours of researching, I immediately found out what complete crap Beneful was and started to look for a better dog food that doesn't have wheat, corn or soy (common dog food allergens). Dogfoodadvisor.com stated that Blue Buffalo Wilderness gets 5 stars for its quality ingredients. I went and purchased a bag from Petsmart (Small Breed - Blue Buffalo Wilderness) and slowly began to switch her over to it.
Fast forward to now (2-3 months after starting Blue Buffalo Wilderness) I now realized after hundreds of dollars spent at the vet these past 2 months, that her food is what is causing all of her symptoms: Severe gas, softer stools (some to the point of being almost liquid consistency), behavior changes, lethargy, whining, clinginess, bloating... all of these crazy things I've never had with her before, not even with Beneful! Although her sneezing has 90% stopped, she now coughs like crazy and makes these weird grunting noises like she's wheezing, and she's still itching like she's having severe allergies.
I am almost finished with my second bag of Blue Buffalo Wilderness with her and it's caused all of this, I believe it down to my core, that's when all of the serious problems started was when I switched her over. I am now (as of today after her 3rd vet visit) switching her over to Castor & Pollux Natural Ultramix Grain-Free Natural Duck dry dog food.
Hopefully, like the others who have reviewed Blue Buffalo on here, once she's completely off of Blue Buffalo Wilderness, her lethargy will subside and she will be a happy puppy again. I can't believe I dished out all of this money on a food I truly thought was great for my dog when it's basically poisoning her. I don't mind spending extra money to take care of my dog. I just wish the advertising was honest so I can actually do what's beneficial for her and not be shaded by these dog food companies.

My cats have been eating this food since one of them had UT issues 3 years ago. Recently, he developed this again and the vet put him on Royal Canin UT food; however, he would occasionally sneak mouthfuls of the BB from the other cats if I didn't stop him. He had two episodes of UT blockage in 3 weeks and this past Monday developed a blood clot in his spine which paralyzed his back legs. He had to be put to sleep. My daughter's cat, who is two and has had BB since he was a kitten, developed a UT blockage yesterday and is still hospitalized trying to deal with it. I've spent $3200 for both cats in the past year. I know that BB recently changed their formulation for their food. I feel that this has directly injured my cats and I will NEVER buy that food again. I'm also warning everyone I know against it.

I have a 6.5 mo. old Alaskan Husky/AmStaff mix and have been feeding him Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy formula since adopting him at 8 wks. The Humane Society I adopted him from had been feeding him Purina One Smartblend Puppy (which, though the first ingredient is chicken, contains a significant amount of corn and animal by-products). I'd heard nothing but good things about Blue and decided to make the switch. Overall my dog is happy and healthy... soft coat, shiny teeth, very energetic and playful... however he can't seem to hold his stools. Ever since switching, it's loose or liquid each time he goes outside and has been getting progressively worse, up to and including some accidents in the house from an otherwise sufficiently potty-trained puppy.
After doing some research, it turns out I'm not the only person having this particular issue, though I seem to be fortunate enough to have avoided some of the more complicated issues this brand of dog food appears to cause. Apparently, Blue Buffalo used to be family-owned/operated; after going corporate, a little more than a year ago, their products have been steadily going down the drain. I will be switching the food after this bag. Even though my dog seems to be reacting fine to the formula (other than the soft stool), I can't risk his long-term health over immediate cosmetic improvements.

I have three pugs, two are seniors, and I have recently begun a very slow process of switching my dogs over to Blue Buffalo. I switched my oldest female first and three days ago she began having horrible diarrhea. The oldest male is almost switched over and today, he also began having horrible diarrhea. Both are on the senior chicken and rice. My younger pug, (he's 5) is still at a 1/4 mix of the adult food and seems fine right now, but I will not be continuing with this food. I will be taking my oldest female to the vet tomorrow, although she seems to be getting a little better since I stopped feeding her Blue Buffalo one and a half days ago and have been feeding her boiled chicken and white rice. If the older male pug had not suddenly gotten sick, I might not have made the connection in time!
Both of the sick dogs are elderly and I have no doubt that if I had continued with the younger dog, he would be in the same boat in no time. I have heard great things about this food, but I think there might be something wrong with a recent batch. At any rate, I will not be feeding my dogs this food anymore.

This company workers are pathetic and unprofessional. I submitted a resume for a job open in my area on a SUNDAY; that SAME day received a call (THEY SEEM PRETTY DESPERATE). A lady tells me she is sending out an email that I must respond to to confirm a phone interview the following day, and if I did not respond and confirm the email she told me I would not receive a call. When I asked her what email address it was sent to she could not even tell me. SO after seeing how they call me back within 20 minutes of submitting a resume online on a Sunday and how the lady could not even inform me of what email it was sent to, I decided not to confirm the phone interview for the next day. WELL when the next day comes, sure enough I received AN UNWANTED, UNCONfirmed call which I was told I would only receive once I responded to the conformation email.
SO I decided not to answer the call hoping that this would be the end of the story. WRONG. The following day, DAY 3, I received yet ANOTHER CALL although I did not confirm ANYTHING. SO I decided to PRESS THE IGNORE BUTTON on this one. LITERALLY 3 mins later I received an email from the same person claim that and I quote, "Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider you for employment. We have reviewed your background and qualifications and find that we do not have an appropriate position for you at this time. We appreciate your interest in Blue Buffalo Co. I have 2 malteses that are 14 years old and weigh 7 pounds each. We have fed them Blue Buffalo diet for years. I bought a new bag of the Senior Chicken/Rice formula. My dogs stopped eating. Had diarrhea and were bleeding from their gums. $300 in vet bills. My maltese that is a heart patient was diagnosed with multiple abscessed teeth (without xrays) and recommended that I take her to a doggie dentist after she completed antibiotics. Her liver test came back abnormal which had never been an issue before. Their teeth/gums were very sore, swollen, and bleeding - and I gave them canned food for 3 weeks and no Blue Buffalo. They got better by the day. They are doing well today - but this was a scare. Something is going on with Blue Buffalo. I will no longer purchase ANY of their products as it is my opinion that this food was poisoning my dogs. It did not affect my 90 pound German Shepherd, he just refused to eat it. So after looking back on this horrible situation, the GSD has a higher sense of smell than most dogs and he must have smelled whatever was in the food that was making my little ones very sick. I really thought they were going to die. Blue Buffalo is not on my list of healthy foods ever again.

Our dog - a 13lb Maltese/Chihuahua mix aged 6 years, has suffered soft stool and mild diarrhea over the past 3 weeks. Upon comparing notes with my wife about dog's situation, she indicated that he began eating from a new bag of dog food (Blue Buffalo Senior Chicken & Rice - purchased in early June) for approximately 3 weeks. Our dog's condition has not been severe, but consistent over this time frame. We now suspect that the dog food is the cause of this problem. Presumed batch/lot information, which is shown in inkjet printing near bottom of bag reads "T4D 19:47". Previous to this past June, we have been pleased with this product.

I have a 3 year old corgi that I have fed Blue Buffalo to since he was a puppy with no problems. I recently purchased a new bag of the adult formula for small breeds around mid June. After feeding he had thrown up 6 times within 24 hours. He couldn't even hold down water and I could see small amounts of blood coming up when he got sick. I took him to the vet and they put him on fluids, tested his stool for parasites and gave him anti-vomiting meds. They told me to give him small amounts of rice for a few days then slowly introduce his regular food. He did fine with the rice but when the time came to give him his regular food he threw it up. I took him back to the vet where they did blood work and x-rays. $450 later they can't find anything wrong with him. Although the vet said he couldn't pinpoint if it was from eating Blue Buffalo, there is no doubt in my mind that this is what the problem was. After reading all of the previous post and seeing this has been an issue for a lot of people that purchased their bags of food in June, I find it hard to believe this is all a coincidence.

I got my dog as a puppy. She would not eat the food that they sent me home with. I then tried Science Diet. She ate that food reluctantly. She would nibble at the food and would "graze" rather than eat. I finally put down a cupful of kibble and just refilled it when the bowl was empty. I switched her to Wellness and the same thing happened. In fact, she just stopped eating.
When she did not poop for 2 days, and lost 2 pounds (she started out at 15 pounds, so this was a major weight loss), I went to the local pet store and spoke with one of the sales people about my problem eater. He suggested Blue Buffalo and I went home with one of the small bags of Blue Buffalo. After 5 years of "grazing", I finally have a dog who enjoys her food. I put the kibble down and it is gone immediately. In fact, I now have to measure carefully how much kibble she gets as she is beginning to gain weight. Blue Buffalo has been great!!!!

I have a dog who was diagnosed with food sensitivities as a puppy and we spent months trying to find a food he could eat without digestive issues. We eventually found Blue Buffalo Basics Grain Free and he has done wonderful on this for almost two years. A few months ago I noticed they changed the packaging and I e-mailed Blue Buffalo to see if the formula changed at all and they assured me the changes were minor and would help a food sensitive dog. As we started our second bag of the new formula my dog started to refuse to eat the food and I didn't understand why.
Now over $600 in vet bills later (one was an emergency vet for terrible diarrhea over a holiday weekend), he has a clean bill of health (but still has terrible diarrhea and gas) and we are switching to a new dog food. I am so disappointed because I have told just about everyone who asks how much this food has helped my dog. I am upset that I recommended this food to so many people. I will now have to start all over finding a food that my dog can eat without any stomach problems.

This food made my cats sick years ago. Any pet food developed without Vets involved on staff needs to be questioned. If Blue spent half the money they do on advertising on studies of the actual value of their food to a pet's health, they may end up making a healthy food. Instead, all they spend their money on is massive advertising on how great their food is. They are just now building their own mixing facility. Most of the problems in the pet industry comes from using outside mixing facilities. Not only do they spend massive amounts on advertising, they set up a partnership with the big box Pet Stores giving them higher profits to push their foods instead of other more proven quality pet foods available.
Everyone should investigate all avenues available before switching from a brand that is working for their pet. Don't switch because a company is telling you how great their food is or because a big box employee claims this is the best food out there, based on the biggest profit to their company. I learned from a bad experience and many vet bills later, regretfully. Now, I check out the good and bad reviews from people who have nothing to profit from evaluating the quality and healthiest food available for pets.

I spent $440 at the vet for labs, stool test, IV fluids, pro-biotics, antibiotics, prescription food, and an additional prescription for coating his stomach and intestines. It wasn't until I found the hundreds of complaints here that I realized the food was the cause. He still has me concerned because I don't think he is drinking.

We switched from Taste of the Wild to Blue Buffalo Wilderness about 2 months ago for our two rat terriers. No reason for doing it aside from switching up their food. I mixed their old food and new food together to make sure we didn't make them sick. A few weeks after switching over 100%, one of our dogs started coughing. We took him to the vet and $1000+ later, found out it was Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The vet gave him steroids/antibiotics/prescription dog food and he started improving almost immediately. He never had any issues before, although I still didn't immediately place the blame on this new Blue Buffalo food. He is 10 years old, and although he's always been healthy, strange things have happened.
But then a few weeks later, our other rat terrier started having midnight accidents and eating grass whenever she was let outside. Parasites were ruled out by the vet, and she recommended rice/chicken. She also improved almost immediately after being removed from the Blue Buffalo Wilderness food. I'll repeat this important piece of information: As soon as both dogs had their diets changed, their symptoms either immediately went away (dog #2) or seriously abated and migrating back to normal (dog #1). So the moral of this story is, read this review along with all of the other reviews here and heed our advice. I'm not sure what Blue Buffalo changed, but something is going on and it's affecting a lot of animals. If you see the slightest change in your pet's behavior, go to the vet asap and make sure you bring up diet.

My Greater Swiss Mountain Dog had been on Blue Buffalo for years without any problems. My Bouvier des Flandres, a puppy, had been on Blue Buffalo for roughly six months. Neither dog had problems, except when I changed them to the Wilderness formulas. I noticed loose stools and was told that the high protein content in that formula sometimes caused diarrhea. Therefore, I switched their formula and everything was fine again. In the beginning of April, I boarded my dogs at our usual kennel (that I am very pleased with) and my dogs ate the food that the kennel provides. The kennel feeds the dogs a better brand of dog food than Blue Buffalo (Native Performance, Lamb) and it is very mild and sensitive to dogs' stomachs. My dogs have NEVER had an issue, in their numerous visits to the kennel before, when switching back to their own dog food once they returned home.
This last visit, however, was very different. After two days of being home, my GSMD developed SEVERE diarrhea. After about a week of being home, my Bouvier developed very loose stools. My first thought was that they contracted parasites from the kennel. After numerous rounds of lab testing (including in-house and laboratory), my dogs consistently were negative for parasites. They were given numerous antibiotics, probiotics, and deworming medications (just to be on the safe side) and they both still had diarrhea and loose stools.
This nightmare was ongoing for about a month and a half. (Imagine having to deal with diarrhea and accidents in your house for 1 1/2 months. It was extremely difficult to clean the yard after they went to the bathroom--multiple times a day!) I went to two different vets and both were stumped. I was told that when parasites are ruled out to look at their environment and diet. Since my dogs are only allowed in my backyard, I didn't think it was anything they were getting into in the yard, so I looked at their diet. The only thing they ate was Blue Buffalo. My vet had me take them off of Blue immediately and they began a special diet of bland chicken and rice. Both dogs immediately got better.
Fast forward two and a half months, being on a different brand, my dogs are much better. I am convinced it was the Blue Buffalo that caused the problems. I spent over $1000 in vet bills, medications, and special food to get my dogs back to almost perfect. My GSMD is now eating Verus and is 95% better, with steady and continual improvement every day. My Bouvier is 100% better. I have heard that Blue Buffalo sold their company to a China-based company; I do not know if that is true or not. What I do know is that for some strange reason, after years of feeding Blue with no incidents, something is different with the food. I will no longer feed my dogs Blue. If you are reading this review because you are on the fence about Blue, I would not recommend it to anyone. Good luck to everyone whose dogs have been sickened by Blue.

I purchased Blue buffalo grain free dog food. I had used this food before and my dogs had liked it. I keep my dogs on a rotation diet which works well for them. When I started using this food, my dogs became lethargic and had very loose stool movements. I stopped feeding them the food and put them on rice, cottage cheese and chopped meat until they had a normal stool movement. I then placed them back on the other grain free food I was using. They are fine now, thank god.

This used to be an industry leader until it was recently sold. My Dogue De Bordeaux was doing great on this food for a few years. Suddenly, in the last six months, he has been having very soft stool, diarrhea and more recently, vomiting and worse diarrhea. My good friend's dog is on the same food (Blue Wilderness Salmon Recipe) and his dog suddenly began throwing up, have black liquid diarrhea (a sign of internal bleeding) and then refused to eat. We have both since changed the food we feed our dogs and they are already doing better. Run away from this food, it is poisoning your dog!!!

After being unable to find the food that my cats were used to eating, I decided that maybe it was time to make a change to something healthier. I bought my first bag and fed it to my three adult cats. They seemed to like it but over the course of the next month, one of my cats began to lose weight. He wasn't behaving like his loving self so off to the vet we went. Turns out he lost over half of his body weight in a one month period. After extensive tests, nothing was abnormal. I promptly threw away the remaining food and bought his previous brand (different variety). It has been 2 weeks and he is measurably better.

I fed my schnauzers Wilderness puppy food, then the youngest got awful gas and UTI. Switched to blue basics duck, the youngest (10 months) threw up several times one night but was ok the next day, so I thought. Week and half later the 2 yr old threw up 7-8 times and was panting, just laying around-- did not pee for 9 hrs and only 1/4 cup. Took her to vet and she was hospitalized with pancreatitis. While she was in hospital took younger one in and she had horrible UTI. Neither ever eat anything but Blue treats and food. The vet stated it was the food, to not give them designer food, that she had seen a lot of dogs with problems from them. No Blue since that day. Repeat urine after antibiotics and results were ok.
Went to another vet office for 2nd opinion, no pancreatitis, no UTI. This vet stated that Blue Buffalo will give some dogs pancreatitis, that they could not tolerate it. He also stated he never would recommend it to his patients. When I spoke to the clerk at Petsmart concerning my issues, could not return the 56 dollar bag of food since I had thrown away the bag. (I store food in ant-free container) She did however tell me that she had had several bags of Blue returned in May with people stating that their dogs were getting sick on it. 1000.00 dollars later and my babies being sick, I have learned a very valuable lesson. Thank goodness they are ok for now. I hope the pancreatitis was caught early enough that there will not be long term effects.

I had tried Blue for my cats back in 2012 because I heard it was the best food! Well, one of my cats ate the wet food and all the hair on her head fell out. She'd never had food allergies before but now she does. I have worked at a couple veterinarians and was told that Blue Buffalo didn't have a veterinarian on staff when developing the product. I've seen many cases of dogs on Blue with pancreatitis and kidney issues and cats on Blue with kidney failure. I won't ever use this product again and everyone I meet with a pet, I discourage from using Blue.

Our beautiful family guardian had been on blue buffalo for several years. It kept him healthy and happy. Recently I had noticed some changes with him - sleeping more than normal, vomiting, not wanting to get out of his bed once he laid down. Sadly I mistook these as signs of him aging because he was an ox of a dog. A few days ago he stopped wanting to eat, again I didn't put too much thought into it the first day because his daddy was out of town and he always gets mopey when he's gone. Then he started urinating and vomiting all over the house. After running tests the vet determined his liver was not functioning properly, his bilirubin was extremely high and he was turning yellow and orange tinted. Sadly he was beyond help. We had to let our baby go. Now I am finding out it was most likely because of his food. This stuff needs to be taken off the shelves. People need to be suing this company and they should pay for all of our damages and losses.

Three weeks ago I purchased a new bag of Blue Buffalo for my two dogs. Within one day, both dogs began to vomit and have excessive diarrhea. After a week of this non-stop, we took them to the vet to run a series of tests. All results came back negative and the only change was the new bag of food. Our vet directed us to stop taking Blue Buffalo and switch to another brand of food. Within 2 days of the switch, all of the vomit and diarrhea went away but one of my dogs was extremely dehydrated from all of the vomit and diarrhea. She had to be admitted to the Veterinary Hospital for overnight treatment due to the severity of her dehydration. I hope that Blue Buffalo stands by its product and investigates the numerous issues I have read about regarding their food in May and June of 2014.

I switched from Wellness Core to Blue Buffalo Wilderness large breed puppy. Within 2 weeks, my dog had explosive liquid stools and/or bloody mucous. Vet did stool specimen and prescribed Flagyl. All was well while on Flagyl. One week after finishing the course, back to diarrhea etc... My poor baby just finished her second dose of Flagyl and sick again.
We got a rescue companion dog a week ago, and he has been eating Blue Buffalo Wilderness bison formula. Last night he came down with the same thing. I can't believe I didn't realize sooner it was this horrid food. My poor babies have been suffering. I feel terrible. Switched back to Wellness Core this AM and so far stools are a bit firmer with no blood. BE CAUTIOUS WHEN USING THIS FOOD!!!!! It is not one specific formula.
Two different dogs and one cat kibble have made my animals miserably ill. How many animals have to get sick before someone steps in? The attendant at the pet store (large chain store) who did my return said she knew exactly what was wrong when she saw me bring the bags in. She says they get it back all the time because it makes peoples animals sick. SHAME ON YOU BLUE BUFFALO!

For years I had my cat on BB Wilderness, so when I got a dog (large breed) I naturally wanted to put her on the same. All the reports online list it as one of the best foods on the market. I tried the puppy formula when she was young and she had a bad reaction, but my dog also has a sensitive stomach so I took her off of it. Over the years I tried the Basics and Freedom formulas and while they are rated as poorer quality food, she reacted well to them. I recently decided to try the Wilderness brand again and she almost immediately had horrible diarrhea - I've literally never seen my dog produce so much liquid in her life. So much so that I thought maybe she had gotten into something in the yard.
So I took her off the food for about a week, did the chicken and rice diet - her symptoms almost instantly cleared up. Once she was back to normal, I transitioned her back onto the Blue Wilderness. Her first day with a full serving of Blue Wilderness, she immediately developed the exact same diarrhea symptoms. I'm seeing a lot of recent comments about this, so maybe there was a bad batch and there should be a recall issued. To add insult to injury, I tried to give the bag (almost 25 lbs of food left!) to my brother to give to his Great Dane - and she ended up getting extremely ill, too, and this is not a sensitive dog. There's something fishy going on with BW right now. I will not be buying again. However, I switched my dog back to Blue Freedom, and she took to it fine.

I get the chicken and brown rice one and they have my two dogs never had a problem.
I have been giving it to them since rescuing them in 2009 NS. My cats have had BF for even longer. None of them are given grain-free though and I do supplement with home-cooked foods. We started by mixing a little of the food in with her normal food and she seemed to like it. That very night, she started acting weird - lethargic and avoiding contact. A day later she was vomiting and having diarrhea accidents in the house every couple of hours - black tarry diarrhea. We immediately stopped feeding her BB but it didn't matter because by then she wouldn't eat a thing - not even fresh baked chicken which is her favorite.
We took her to the vet and found she had blood in her stool and was dehydrated. She got some anti-nausea and acid reducer shots along with Hill's I/D formula food, the vet bill was $235, she's also been on Flagyl and famotidine for 5 days and finally seems to be getting back to normal. I pray she does not have any permanent damage. Don't be fooled by the advertising. Our vet said that Blue Buffalo does not have veterinary oversight of their product formulas and that they could not recommend this food under any circumstances. Same complaints as others, very foul gas, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting and bloody stools/urine. He can't go to the bathroom anymore and he keeps trying. Lethargic and has lost a bunch of weight.
They have an appointment with the vet tomorrow morning, I'll be sure to take the bag of puppy food with me in case the vet wants to look at it, and call the "major" pet store that I bought this stuff from. Chain pet stores seem to "push" this food as an excellent dog food. At this point, I'm wondering if they get kickbacks. After reading the reviews, there is something clearly wrong with this product. I experienced all the same issues as others within one week. Our normally silly, fun-loving, affectionate dog became lethargic and out of it. He slept ALL the time, acted as if his joints were hurting, and didn't want to move. He has always been gassy, but this was FOUL! You could literally smell it all the time. The pup then started with excessive thirst and urination followed up with lethargy and weight loss. We ended up taking the pup to the vet where they put her on IV hydration and Royal Canin Hypoallergenic food. This stabilized the dog and stopped the diarrhea.
The vet also did extensive blood work and consulted another digestive specialist in town to discuss the case. The blood work was sent off looking for the usual parasites as well as lack of a pancreatic enzyme and diabetes. All came back negative with the vet stumped as to what could be wrong. The pup came home lively and healthy and as soon as we put her back on the Blue Buffalo, the diarrhea started again. The vet told us to get back to the Royal Canin and within a day the stools were normal. We switched the pup to Pro Plan and everything is normal. I went to Petsmart, and they suggested a very close alternative would be the Blue Buffalo Wilderness grain free puppy food also a mixture of chicken and sweet potato.
I understand you should not switch food, but being that these were both high protein, grain free, chicken and sweet potato kibble, it should be comparable to going from Post version of Raisin Bran to Kellogg's. First, she didn't like it. She ate it, but very little. Second, I noticed the first night, she was very very gassy. It was quite potent for a 9 week old puppy. Third, the next morning, the diarrhea started. It was loose, but I was still hoping maybe it was just a little upset tummy from a mild change. Fourth, the diarrhea became increasingly worse to the point where it was just water.
The only change made with her was the food. After two days, her not liking the food, what little she did eat making her sick, I took it back to the store, got my money back, drove to the far side of town where they do carry Nulo, and now she is starting to feel better. I read the claims Purina made about Blue Buffalo lying about their ingredients. Purina has their own agenda to get them out of the market. I was recommended Blue Wilderness my cat, by a Pet Smart employee. My cat is not very vocal but when I put the food in her bowl she nibbled at 5 pieces and start meowing like crazy. She was hungry but she REFUSED to eat it. When I went back to Pet Smart, they were nice enough to let me exchange the product, and I immediately put her back on Pro Plan which she loves. I know that animals don't lie and when something is wrong they do their best to communicate it. Listening to her probably saved her life and I'm so grateful. I wonder how long will it take before this product (given its level of complaints) will be pulled from the shelves?

I have fed my Weimaraner puppy with this food since she is two months old. She is 6 months old now and It seems like her health problems now started to increase. In 4 months since I have her, I visited the veterinary more than 20 times. She has been under too much medication, first diarrhea problems very frequently, which at first we thought it can be caused by things that she eats from the floor. However, we changed her diet to Prescription food for gastrointestinal problems and she improved immediately after the first meal. She also has hives throughout her skin and in two weeks of treatment still can't improve. I just finally decided to make the change and follow the vet recommendation to switch to Royal Canin hypoallergenic diet for two months until she gets better. I am really frustrated and disappointed with Blue Buffalo as I have spent too much money not only in that brand thinking that I was feeding her the best food, but also in Vet visits to cure all the issues. I can't wait to see my puppy back to normal and definitely will not getting back to Blue Buffalo food anymore.

My little chihuahua was vomiting every time she ate Blue Buffalo, and left little brown pellets of the food all over the floor. I assumed it was the vitamin. Then she started having bloody stools so I took her to vet and he asked me what she was eating. I told him Blue Buffalo and Thank God he knew about this recall so I just threw that damn food out and hope she will be better. He gave her gastro antibiotics and vit b12. I read some of the articles and saw others were having similar problems! Thank God the vet knew about this.

Before purchasing food for my American bulldog puppy I did a lot of research and this seemed to be a high quality food (especially at over $60 a bag)... Soon after she had constant diarrhea, started throwing up on occasion, severely dehydrated, and downright lethargic.... This went on for a few months with a couple of vet visits.... I thought maybe it was an isolated dogs reaction to the food... as I did more research on possible causes and I ran across all of the negative reviews on this site.
As I started reading I realized it was not only me - other people were having the same issues with their dogs! Needless to say I ran out and got a different brand of food that evening and fed it to her without even 'weaning' her off of it and immediately she had solid stools, has yet to throw up or become dehydrated. I would never purchase this brand of food again nor any of their other products.

I have an 8 1/2 yr old cairn terrier with a rock hard constitution. I decided to switch from her regular food to the "healthier" Blue Buffalo. Within days she would begin only eating 1/2 her food. Within 2 weeks she had lost so much weight. I could feel her ribs, she began to vomit up almost every meal, had very loose stool and her abdomen filled up with fluid!! I panicked and took her to the vet. At this point we've run every test (liver, kidneys, heart, urine, etc.) and everything is clean. The vet has put her on a diuretic to drain off some of the fluid. He is stumped so we're going to a specialist tomorrow to rule out cancer, etc. Currently we're at $600 in vet bills - before the specialist! My normally healthy fur baby was fine until we changed to BB. After reading these posts I'm definitely throwing that stuff away! The vet tech told me that "not tested on animals" goes both ways...you also don't know how it affects your pets!!! DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR PETS!

First off I've been reading all these posts. So let's start off by saying this dog food is amazing. Secondly, everyone needs to realize if your dog is not a breed that requires high protein, don't give this to your dog. I have two wolf malamute hybrid and they require the higher levels of protein. I've tried other brands and always the same thing, diarrhea, vomiting and extremely lethargic. Also instant switching of dog food can cause kidney failure in your pet so don't blame the food or the company because most of these foods I've read that people are feeding their animals have been recalled within the last three years at least once. Blue buffalo hasn't been recalled in almost ten years. I'll feed my dogs this till the day they die.

I fed my 4 cats Science Diet cat food for all of their lives. One older cat started getting fat and the vet suggested food with more protein and less cereal to help him lose weight. I decided to switch all cats to BB (because of its purported high quality) slowly - mixing old food with new. All went well for a couple weeks. They loved it and their coats looked amazing. However, after feeding a full diet of BB for 2 week without a problem - the latest new bag of BB caused MASSIVE soupy diarrhea in all cats (luckily the cat box room is tiled - but what a gross mess to clean up...!!) & all cats subsequently refused to eat the food. Vet check showed no giardia or other parasites. Hard to imagine that all 4 non-related cats had a similar "allergic" reaction. Threw away the remaining BB and started them on Fromms. They acted like they were starving after refusing the BB that made them sick. Stools & appetites back to normal. Lesson learned... Stay away from the mixed quality of BB. BTW - I am not a competitor of BB - as the company always seems to claim when responding to these types of reviews. Wish I had listened to the other similar consumer complaints...

My 8 year old Jack Russell terrier is currently suffering from lack of appetite, eating large amounts of grass, and has had bloody stools on occasion. I have suspected the food brand since a young vet near my home said he had seen problems with dogs on that diet. My small half Chihuahua tolerates it fine but the JRT does not. Both dogs love cooked vegetables and I have lots of grass fed beef so I will make my own food for them from now on. I have checked a couple of websites for recipes. I own a Golden Retriever and a Black Lab mix, both 6 1/2 yrs old. My Golden Retriever can get finicky with her food, so I have to change it up every 4-6 mos. My Black Lab is on Royal Canin Urinary SO because she has an issue with bladder stones. The last time I had to change food for my Golden, I decided to try Blue Buffalo brand, as their advertisements made it seem like it was the best on the market. WRONG!!!
Within 2 weeks, my dog started to back off and not eat her full meals. I thought she was just being finicky and figured I would just go to another brand when I was finished with the bag. By 4-5 weeks, she had stopped eating altogether and she was beginning to have accidents (messy diarrhea with a little blood) in the house and vomiting. During a week's time, my Black Lab, who loves to eat, managed to ingest two full meals of Blue Buffalo (my fault, as I was not quick enough to pick up the bowl that was left by my Golden). Within several days she was having bouts of extreme diarrhea with huge amounts of blood and vomiting.
I brought both pets to my vet for examination. My Golden seemed to be getting better, as she had not eaten for a few days, but the Black Lab was severely dehydrated and lethargic. My vet administered fluids to both and sent me home with meds for nauseousness and diarrhea with the instruction to bring the Black Lab back in the morning if not "much better". Later that afternoon, my Black Lab began to have large amounts of just blood pouring out of her rectum. She could not get up and was pretty much unresponsive to me.
I rushed her to the emergency animal hospital and she has now been there almost three days. She has been on IV fluids since then and is just now beginning to get back to normal. Her heart rate was at 200 and they were barely able to get a pulse when she was admitted. Thank God I did not wait until the morning to see my regular vet, or she may not have survived. During the consult with the examining doctor, explained the change of food and I was told, that although they could not prove that this illness was food induced, they DO have a higher incidence of gastrointestinal issues with pets being fed with the Blue Buffalo products.
When I spoke with my regular vet, he also said that it was his experience to have a higher incidence of diarrhea and vomiting issues with animals on this product. It seems that the "all natural" products are more susceptible to contamination or salmonella. I don't have to have "proof". I know in my heart that this food was the cause of this illness with my pets. Unfortunately, my Lab, because she is on such a restricted diet, took a harder hit than my Golden who had the common sense to know that it was making her sick and had already started to walk away from it.

Sensitive Solutions Formula - Duck & Potato Recipe. My cat OBED is so sick from this food. I bought it at Petsmart - He was on Hill's Science Diet before I started feeding him the Buffalo Blue food and did very well on it. THRIVED IN FACT - Full of energy, growing like a weed, his stools were absolutely normal. I was at Petsmart one day getting him some toys because he was very active at the time and loved to play hard and a lot - so I knew he was getting low on food - I looked around for about 40 minutes - reading all the labels. I wanted something comparable to Science Diet. I came across the Buffalo Blue and read the ingredients and label claims. So thought I would try it. It's still a very expensive food - I thought it had to be good.
OBED loved it immediately - he devoured it and he actually still loves the taste and size of it. However, immediately I started to notice he was bloated and uncomfortable. His stomach started rumbling a day or two after he started eating the food (I didn't realize it at the time but remember it now). He had such horrific gas - stinky gas for two days straight right after he started eating this food - he wouldn't leave my side and I remember the whole house smelled; he had such bad gas. I thought he was getting sick - he even acted like he didn't feel good. I didn't even relate it was the food. His energy level went down and I even commented to my husband several times how he slept all the time and it worried me - and told him about the gas.
I started to get very worried because he smells like stinky gas ALL THE TIME - and I had enough of it when one day I walked into the house and that is all I could smell. So I decided to start researching it online. Then I came across all the startling health complaints and the overwhelming amount of animal owners, Dog & Cats, who have the same problem when they switched to Buffalo Blue food. I have now stopped feeding him the Buffalo Blue - he immediately stopped having diarrhea. He also seems to feel better. It's only been a couple days since I stopped but can already tell he is feeling better. He still has the smelly gas but it seems to be getting less and less frequent (I mean he was passing gas all day long and night long - poor little guy suffered and still is). I WOULD NOT SUGGEST THIS FOOD TO ANY ANIMAL. POOR ANIMALS ARE SUFFERING.

Now people have got to understand that just because it is a great food does not mean that it will be fantastic for their dog. I decided just a couple of days ago to try another brand and it is a great food as well but guess what, it does not work for my dog. She vomited and had severe diarrhea. My husband right now is going back to the store to change it back to Blue Buffalo.
People, you have to do your research and mix the old food with the new brand and purchase a small bag not a large one. But just because this food does not agree with your dog or cat does not mean it is horrible. Humans cannot eat everything as we are all different. Same thing goes for your pet. I do highly recommend this product but as I said, you have to do your research.

I mixed this with their regular canned cat food (Wellness) to avoid any dietary problems.
I have four cats and one of the cats, PB, loved the kibble and hasn't had any problems nor has my cat, RJ, but today about two hours after they ate, Maxwell and BeBe, started vomiting undigested food. Maxwell has vomited four times and has had a mucous vomit as well as loose stools and inappropriate elimination throughout the house. He is my biggest concern as he is 14+ and I'm monitoring him now . He loved the food this morning and ate quite a bit of it. This is the second day I've been mixing the food, but after this experience, I am returning the Freedom Grain-Free (for both reasons - expired and it made my cats sick). I'm hoping that this will work it's way out of their system since the vomiting and elimination is the immune system kicking in to get rid of bad food. There could have been a small portion contaminated in the bag, but not sure and I'm not taking any more chances. At any rate, I'm over the Blue Buffalo brand after seeing so many similar reports here on this site mine is not a unique experience.

I happened to be reading these reviews and saw so many scathing ones that I created an account to defend an amazing product. Shortly after we adopted our heeler mix we discovered she had a bad bladder infection. She finished antibiotics only for another to return two weeks later. After her fourth consecutive bladder infection our vet recommended we put her on a Science Diet urinary health formula. We were quickly disappointed to discover that the food only seemed to aggravate the situation. That is when we saw there was a direct link between her diet and the infections. I was skeptical to put the dog on BB because I thought I was being a sucker for a holistic dog food trend. As soon as we switched her to Blue Buffalo her infections ceased within a matter of days.
For several months following the switch I had the vet test her urine because I was in disbelief that an issue we had fought for almost a year could be solved so easily. Every time he said her urine was completely clear and at a normal PH. It has been three years since her food switched to BB and she has not had one single bladder infection. I believe you get what you pay for and although BB is certainly expensive, we are ultimately saving money by not making a vet trip every month for tests and medicine. I also notice that she requires less food. BB seems to be far more filling and satisfying. She loves the food and we could not be happier. Our in-laws had the same issue with their cat and switched her over to BB and have also seen a cease in infections.

We purchase the Dry Lamb for Puppies. His stool was always very wet and loose but everything seemed okay so we kept him on it. I Figured it was the best and just because he was a puppy and getting used to the food. But he never had diarrhea.
Then he reached about 5.5 months old. I was told by several people including the manager of the Petsmart to start him on adult food because he was already 60 lbs. and Rottweilers need it for healthy bone growth. About 2 days later. That's when the nightmare started. He had very, very, bad diarrhea. I took him to the vet. and they said he had parasites. So we treated him for that and I also gave him Imodium AD and it seemed to get a little better. I was mixing the food with rice and boiled chicken. But it was always still very loose and wet. Never normal.
After the 7 days of medicine was finished, I started on the food again 100%. What a mistake! His DIARRHEA was worse than ever! When I mixed it with rice and boiled chicken, it was a little better but still diarrhea. I decide to google Blue Buffalo dogs with diarrhea and WOW!!!! What a revelation. I couldn't believe what I was reading. So I took him off Blue Buffalo immediately and started him on Iams Adult for Large Breeds. After just one feeding of Iams, his stool was normal! No more gas! No more diarrhea. The nightmare was over!
I'm just sorry it took me so long to figure out it was the Blue Buffalo. My dog and I suffered needlessly for several weeks because of Blue Buffalo! But all the marketing and people at the pet store recommending it over all other brands and bad mouthing of other dog foods you never thought it was the Blue buffalo! How could it be. Always trying to search for something that may help her skin, my husband researched and felt confident switching our fur baby's food to Blue Buffalo. As a side note, our dog has NEVER had digestion problems after switching food as we do it often. This time was not the same case. She was at first struggling to have a bowel movement which was the first sign something wasn't right. That same night my husband woke to her whining at the front door but before he could get her out the door she had a major blow out. That was the first of many.
After 4 days, 2 of which we changed her to chicken and rice, a trip to the vet was necessary as the diarrhea persisted. She also was excessively panting and in general not acting herself. After 3 separate tests at the vet, it was determined she had higher than normal levels of bacteria in her stool. Although it can't be determined positively that the food was the problem, nothing else had changed in her daily routine. Upon the vets recommendation we have switched her to a prescription food. She was also prescribed an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drug as well as a probiotic.
My vet stressed the importance of taking our dog off the food immediately as she had been witness to many other animals experiencing the same issues while on this food. I am happy to report that, Sophie is doing great even after 1 day removed from this food. Never again will I go near this food. I even washed the storage container and her bowls with scalding water. My dogs are small so they eat the small dog food except for the dark brown pieces that I have to stand there and pick all of them out or I end up with a mess on my floor. Does anyone else have this problem?

Blue Buffalo divine delights wet small breed canned food - Lamb/duck with "savory sauce" give me a break my dog is NOT eating REAL LAMB OR DUCK. This is BS! When I go out to eat a piece of lamb is over $60 so is duck so I'm not buying that they have found a way to put duck or lamb into an affordable dog meal. Plus I have a Pug 15 months now. I've been feeding him on BB Divine Delights wet food for 4 months. I notice little black dots that look like pepper in the wet food when I warm, mash and mix his dry food in up in it. The food looks absolutely disgusting and I HAVE to know what those little black dots are?? Can someone help?
Also my little Puggie has been losing his hair around his nose and eyes. He itches more. He craps so soft its almost diarrhea every time! I keep him cleaner than I clean myself so I know its not allergies not dirty not our water... Its the BB. But every other dog food uses by-products and they also look sickening. Do I have to make him homemade chicken and rice with carrots and share my apples and grapes and nectarines like I've been doing for a month? Because I'll just have a child!! - kidding. But really what are the black dots? I'll give BB a -2 on a scale from 1-5 5 being alright.

I'll start by saying that I can't prove that the Blue Buffalo Wilderness formula is the cause of my cat's recent illness, but if I had read the reviews on this site before I decided to switch his food, I NEVER would have picked this product or anything from the Blue Buffalo food line. My cat is 7 years old with absolutely no prior health problems, he's an active and happy boy. I decided to switch to Blue Buffalo about a year ago because I thought it was a higher quality product for my cat. It may include higher quality ingredients than some other cat foods, but I am not convinced it is a good quality food after all and like any other food it's not for every cat, especially not mine.
Three days ago my cat, Louie, started vomiting quite regularly. At first it was chunks of undigested food and then quickly turned to that gross bile and foam stuff (yuck)! As soon as I saw he had vomited more than once I took his food away for 12 hours to give his stomach time to rest. After 12 hours he seemed to be doing well and was hungry so I gave it back to him. He ate and within an hour it was back on the floor and the bile vomiting started again. Okay then let's try taking it away for 24 hours leaving water of course so he can stay hydrated. The vomiting subsided again and I gave his food back...and as you can probably guess by now *blech* it's back on the floor. Luckily I was chatting with a friend later that evening who mentioned having gone through something similar with her cats that she too was feeding Blue Buffalo food to. Huh, that's interesting?
Off to the store, I went to get some of the Pro Plan food I was feeding Louie before trying the Blue Buffalo food. Sure enough, I changed his food back and the vomiting has stopped!!! I took him to the vet today to get an exam and have some blood and urine drawn for testing. Initial review is that he is in great condition and we'll wait to see if anything abnormal comes back on the tests. So again, I cannot prove that the Blue Buffalo food caused this mystery illness but his condition significantly improved once I switched his food back to Pro Plan. Needless to say, I will never use this food again and highly recommend that if you are using it that you do your research to understand what you are feeding your animal and why? And if you notice any strange occurrences with your cat/dog try switching the food first to see if that clears things up. I am very fortunate that I caught this early on, especially after reading many of the reviews on this site.

I had to find a new dog food for our Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and Blue Buffalo was suggested by the breeder. Wheatens can not eat any food with grains and I buy the lamb with brown rice. Not to be gross but I've never had a dog poop so often and not ever have an upset stomach. I think $60.00 for 30 lbs is expensive but worth it.

I started feeding my two healthy cats Blue Buffalo Wilderness grain free dry food approximately 2 1/2 years ago. In May of 2012 one of my cats, Namaste, started drinking lots more water and urinating much more frequently. Several months later Neesa stated exhibiting the same symptoms. I found this website, which states many cases similar to mine. I have taken stellar care of my beloved cats, from filtered water, nutritional supplements, homeopathic care, etc. There is a correlation with the consumption of Blue Buffalo food and my cats' symptoms. They were both healthy and then suddenly their health started deteriorating. Neesa has stabilized for now but Namaste is not doing well. They have been off the food for many months. I am very discouraged.

I have tried to contact Blue Buffalo and they do not call back and when you call you have to leave a message. I had my dog on Blue and one of the rep. recommend, because she was a schnauzer to put her on the new Wilderness lightweight. I tried it and also added a little bit of the longevity can. She got sick after about three weeks and had blood in her stool and that night I took her to the Pet ER and they took x-rays and found pockets of gas in the intestines and abdomen.
The vet there also check the stool and found no foreign or bad things in the feces. She asked me what dog food I used and I said Blue. She then put her on Science Diet ID for gas problems and she also put her on Flagyl and Pepcid AC. She had vomited several times. I am laying out $463.00 for the emergency visit and my dog is still not in the clear and Molly is only 13 mos. old. I hope that she survives. We love her very much. After reading the packaging, we decided to switch. 1 week later, our dog has become severely ill. 36 hour diarrhea and 2 vet visits later, our dog is dragging his rear end and whining. Steroid shot, antibiotic and a probiotic prescribed. Warm compresses and lots of petting. He's drinking a lot and panting. We have switched him back to Pro Plan with 2 tablespoons of white rice and his stool is getting back to normal. However, his bottom is severely inflamed. What a nightmare. DO NOT GIVE YOUR DOG THIS FOOD. Our dog does not have a sensitive stomach at all, but this food almost ended his life. As soon as we switched back, the diarrhea stopped.

They could find nothing except she had lost 4 pounds in the month. Stopped the food and no more seizures for 3 months now. She is on Zen and has gained her weight back and the watery stools stopped. I contacted Blue with our $331 vet bill and complained about the food. They actually told me they had never had a recall and that I can read anything posted by anyone on the internet. Told me to send copies of vet bill with diagnosis and sample of the food. That was 3 months ago and no contact. I heard someone else bought the company and they are using fillers. Our otherwise healthy dog has been extremely sick for the last two weeks - projectile vomiting (never seen a dog do that!?), watery eyes, fever, excessive thirst, diarrhea, very elevated liver enzymes after a vet visit. After reading these posts - where people list the same exact symptoms for their pets - I am pretty convinced there's a link between the kibble and her symptoms. The vomiting only stopped when we completely stopped the kibble. Once we tried to start her back on it, the vomiting came back. NOW I also see that P&G - who has bought Blue Buffalo - has placed several of its products on recall, due to potential salmonella contamination. Hmmm... Perhaps Blue Buffalo owes us an apology?

If you have a bag of food that appears to be causing an issue with your dog return it to the store that you bought it from. It could be the bag. If for some reason the bag is outdated that 'could' be part of it, but my experience with Blue as a whole is that they stand behind their product. Just because you had a bad experience with 1 bag... doesn't mean you should put a negative recommendation out there if you have not tried these other things. All stores selling Blue will return your food for a credit or a new bag. It is not uncommon to have a bag once in awhile (any brand) that something didn't sit right.

We had been feeding our Boston Terrier BB Homestyle Recipe Chicken Dinner in the can for a few years. Previously I had cooked an all natural dog food from a veterinarian recipe. However my job had become too cumbersome to continue so we switched him to BB based on their claims stated on the can "You'll love the fact that he's getting the superior nutrition of the very best ingredients." He seemed to like it, however we did notice that he had very smelly gas and horrible breath, and he didn't previously with the food that I made for him.
My husband and I believe that we noticed a difference in the consistency recently and thought they may have been adding more water to reduce costs as it seemed more watery than before. Elvis seemed to still like it and so we started adding just a little more at each feeding. Elvis started to have loose stools with a lot of mucous and some blood. I did not associate it with his food at the time. His health from that point continued to deteriorate with constant bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. He lost about 30% of his body weight during this time frame of about 6 months. He had seen the vet several times. Neither of us associated it with his food because it is claimed to be one of the healthiest pet foods on the market!
On December 30th, we were up most of the night with Elvis, he was frothing at the mouth, had severe diarrhea and constantly vomiting. We knew that we had no choice but to have him put to sleep. The morning of December 31st, we took him to a different vet as our vet was out of town. Our intention was to have him put to sleep. When the vet entered the room he indicated to us that he had all the symptoms of chronic wasting disease. He told us that it could be caused by his food. He proposed a short term alternate plan to see if he could reverse the wasting process. The plan included a food change and meds to reduce his vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. He said that we would know within two weeks or very possibly sooner if the change in food had a reverse effect on his health condition.
We changed him to Royal Canin that day and by the end of the second day we saw an enormous difference in both his general health and energy level. He has now been on Royal Canin for 30 days and he has gained back 15% of his body weight, has not vomited once and has normal stools. His energy level is back to normal. It is obvious that he feels better and is much healthier and continues to improve.
In conclusion we feel that beyond a shadow of a doubt Buffalo Blue Homestyle Recipe Chicken Dinner was creating a severe negative health impact on our dog. The before and after pictures from just 30 days apart are riveting. We are very sad that we didn't come to this conclusion sooner and save our dog from the obvious pain and suffering he was going through on a daily basis. We thought he had cancer! The most disturbing part is that we thought we were feeding him the BEST food available but in reality the BB product seems to have been the SOURCE of his illness and almost his death.

Both of my dogs had been eating Royal Canin prescribed veterinary dog food. My nine year old Westie for 8 years and my Westiepoo for 7 years. Two years ago Royal Canin must have changed the formula because both of my dogs developed colitis and I was at wits end trying to cure it. At the same time we relocated to town from the country and my vet said that was the reason behind the colitis problem. The stress of the move. However the colitis problem did not clear up even after one year in our new home.
I tried a hamburger and rice diet and chicken broth and nothing to eat for 24 hours........ All this to no avail. I read a review online about Blue Buffalo dog food and seeing all the varieties felt I would try the gluten free recipe. It has been a miracle dog food. My two dogs no longer have colitis. They now have a better quality of dog life. They have more energy, their coats are thicker and softer, their breath is better and they love the food. I am extremely pleased with this product.

Last week, she started having blood in her urine. I took her to the Vet immediately and she was diagnosed with bladder infection. Apparently her urine crystal is something like 4/4. She received a shot and her diet was changed. The Vet said that most pets that she has seen with renal problems were eating Blue Buffalo. Now she is eating Purina, food from the Vet. I recently got a new puppy (December 12, 2013), and as we transitioned her to Blue Buffalo Wilderness Large Puppy formula from Victor (a Texas Based holistic dog food). We already have a 2 year old dog on Wilderness and so we thought we would put the puppy on it as well, since our dog loves it so much. She loved the taste of it, wouldn't even touch Victor when we put them side by side. Well within a few days, we notice that her stool was very soft and often watery. She was having a hard time holding it, and you could tell it was hurting her a little. Since we were not giving her any people food, Blue Buffalo was the only common factor.
After much research, it was discovered that although it was the food, it was also that our puppy could not handle the amount of protein that was in the food. This is no fault to BB, some puppy's tummy's can't handle that much protein early on. We switched her to regular BB for large dog breeds, and that solved the problem. There was a 10% difference in the amount of protein, and she loves it. I would not, and will not, feed my pups anything but Blue Buffalo (my cat is on it too). Their coats are shiny, stool is normal, they are very active and healthy animals.

My 11-12 lb Bruno (about 12-months old - we're not sure just how old exactly he is, he was found in the bushes, so we think he's at around 12 months) Jack Russell-Rat Terrier Mix has done exceptionally well on BB Wilderness Puppy. Ever since we switched him from Nutro Small Breed Puppy, his fur got shiny and soft, his skin looked pink and clear, and his stools were alright. At first he was only getting BB Wilderness Puppy and the stools were kind of soft, but his second bag we mixed with a 4-lb bag of Vets' Choice Holistic Health Extension Original and his stool has firmed up since when he was on BB only, and he only has a BM 3 times a day.
I do think that this mix was great for my little guy, and he has successfully transitioned to a mix of Dr. Tim's Kinesis GF (15lbs), Nutrisca Chicken and Chickpea GF (4lbs) and Vets' Choice Holistic Health Extension GF (4lbs). I know it is all chicken, but he does get all-natural other protein sources - fish skins, sardines, tuna in water, bully sticks, gullet strips, cow ears, beef liver and whatever else I can find in the store to diversify his protein intake. Next up we have Earthborn Holistic GF (fish, chicken, and bison) and some more of HHE (Original, Lamb&Rice, and GF) lined up for mixed feeding! I love rotating food brands and protein sources for my little guy, but Blue Buffalo Wilderness will definitely be kept in the loop and we want to try the new Buffalo and Red Meat Varieties, maybe in 2 years or so (he's a slow eater at just 1 cup/day or less).

They were raised the first 6 weeks on Victor, no issues, perfect hard stools, but I wanted the BEST for my show pups, so I put them on Blue, nothing but diarrhea since then. He has been on that formula until about 10 days ago when I started switching him over to the Blue Buffalo freedom puppy formula. I made the switch because he has had consistent loose stools and bouts of diarrhea since going on the BB small breed chicken and oatmeal formula. Additionally he seemed to be scratching a lot (no fleas or flea bites). I thought perhaps he might have a grain allergy and tried the grain free formula.
While the itchiness has diminished his stools are now extremely loose and he is now very gassy to boot. After reading so many similar reports by other dog owners whose fur babies had similar experiences I've made the decision to take him off of Blue Buffalo entirely. I have been feeding Blue Freedom to all of my pets. In the past two weeks my German Shepherd hasn't been too interested in his food which I noticed is when I just opened the new bag. Then in the past two days he would eat a little and then throw up within 20 minutes and yesterday wouldn't even look at any food, even chicken which is so not like him. He was vomiting yellow bile even after only drinking water. He is highly trained and has never ate anything off the ground or out of the garbage can and doesn't even have access to anything and gets leash walked.
I took him to the vet today who did blood work and said his liver enzymes are very high and was extremely dehydrated and put him on only baby food for the next three days and six different medicines/antibiotics/and meds to keep his tummy calm. I also had one of my other dogs (shepherd mix) that experienced the same problems in the past week but not nearly as bad. I also have 4 small dogs who have not seemed to be affected besides my Maltese who just isn't interested in it since I opened the new bag.
Needless to say I have taken them off of the food and starting making my own homemade food for them as of tonight. I was also reading that a few others with large dogs it seems have had these problems in the past month. I work at a pet retail store and have not heard of any recalls of it. However, I did hear that Blue was recently bought over by another company so I'm wondering if that has to do with something? I have contacted Blue with no response yet..

Jasmine is 2 years old. When we got her, she was on Eukanuba and didn't seem to like it. I thought I would change her over to Blue since it was advertised as "the best premium organic" dog food on the market. A few months ago, I bought a bag of the Blue with Chicken and a bag of the Blue with Wilderness beef. She picked out the little round beef pieces and ate the chicken and seemed to be doing ok; however, I noticed that she ate only about 1/2 or less bowl of food a day and was extremely tired and not much energy at all. Two days ago, I purchased a can of the Blue chicken to mix with the dry and added only a tablespoon to the dry. She ate everything in her bowl.
An hour later and for the past day and half, she is vomiting, diarrhea every hour or two and up all night. We're on our way to the vet's office now. I noticed there were other posts about watery eyes. Jasmine has developed a watery eye too and was diagnosed with conjunctivitis when I began her the dry and two days ago, it reoccurred and is going to require surgery. Like you, our 10 lb Jasmine is a member of our family and we love her like a child. I can't believe that this company is selling food to make animals sick and that they are not being held accountable. I assure owners of Blue, after the Vet's visit this afternoon, if this is indeed your fault, I will be calling my attorney!

We've fed our young Dachshunds Blue Buffalo since Feb 2013. All four are rescues Kai (born Sept 2012), Daisy (born April 2013), Finn & Oliver (born May 2013). I noticed in late June 2013 that Daisy was very gassy and Kai had horrible breath even with brushing and chew bones. Our vet didn't think it was the food. In Sept we adopted Finn and Ollie. After slowly starting BB, they also had gas, bad breath and diarrhea. After another vet visit all four had pumpkin and ground turkey until the diarrhea stopped; BB was slowly introduced again. After two weeks of BB alone, the severe diarrhea came back for all of the pups. We decided to switch to BB grain free and by early December they had the same issues. After a week of pumpkin and ground turkey, the diarrhea stopped and we started them on Wellness puppy. All of the prior issues stopped - no diarrhea, gas or bad breath. We had been advocates for use of Blue Buffalo but will not recommend or use it for our dogs.

Blue Buffalo Indoor Adult Cat Food - As a licensed veterinary technician, I am adamant about my animals getting the very best. So after reviewing many different diets (and before I found all these complaints) I had switched them to Blue. They loved the taste and ate it well. I wasn't a fan of how tiny the kibble was, they barely had to chew it at all. The food stated it also helped with odor control on top of weight control for indoor cats. Their poo smelled horrible. And on one occasion one of my cats was especially hungry so ate a little too quickly, and choked on one of the tiny kibbles. I almost had to do the Heimlich on my cat! She then coughed for 10 minutes straight.
I said no more, I can't risk my cats choking b/c of that tiny kibble. My lean cat never really gained any weight on the food either. She was always on the thinner side, but my other cat stayed at a hefty 9.9lbs! After changing them to Royal Canin my lean kitty finally put on a little weight, and no more choking hazards. I have since swapped to Hill's Ideal Balance due to cost (the Royal Canin was very expensive when you are feeding it to 4 cats). This is where they will be staying, they love it, and it has excellent nutrition. And I know Hill's is a brand I can trust!
On a side note, I am not quite sure why Blue has a Facebook page and not sure who runs it, but it isn't anyone that knows ANYTHING about the food. Whenever you ask a question, or have a complaint (like the choking incident) all they say is contact this number. No concern at all, you also never hear of any research they put into their food other than what they claim they do on their commercials. They just have nothing to back up how good they say their food is for your pet. And the fact that their ingredients are outsourced from places like China. Another reason why Hill's Ideal Balance is the way to go. The company is just a little too sketchy for me.

I fed my 2 German Shepherds a mix of Blue Freedom Grain Free, and Blue Basics Grain Free. After 2 days, I noticed both dogs were very thirsty, and urinating more frequently. I took them to my vet, who did urinalysis for both, and their specific gravity was very high beyond the normal ranges. I then checked online to see if there were any problems associated with the food, and sure enough, the University of Michigan found back in 2010 that the Vitamin D which Blue Buffalo was adding to their food was causing hypercalcemia. U of M was very specific about the brand, because every complaint that people made had given this food to their pets.
Blue Buffalo recalled certain foods in 2011, and stated they would pay for any costs related to the health problems of people's animals. However, I didn't know about this entire matter, and in late September, 2013, decided to change my dogs' food, as they were having some skin and ear allergies with their other food. Within a couple of days, my dogs were drinking and urinating like crazy, so I took them to the vet, and we discovered that they were coming down with the same problems that were reported to U of M in 2010.
So apparently Blue Buffalo never changed their formula or the amount of Vit. D they were adding to the food. High specific gravity can be indicative of kidney disease, and is not easily diagnosed, but the cause was plain - it was definitely the food. My female also started showing a distended abdomen in the liver area. I have now taken them off the food. It's not worth it to risk your dog's health with this untrustworthy company or its products, since they've clearly done nothing to reduce or prevent this illness from developing as a result of their food. Don't buy it, and don't feed it to your dog. I just filed a complaint with the FDA, in the hopes that I can help prevent other unsuspecting dog owners from putting their dogs through this terrible ordeal. I only hope there isn't too much kidney damage with my poor dogs, and I am monitoring them closely now.

I adopted two shelter rescues and wanted to provide them with the best nutrition I could offer, especially since they'd come from such dire conditions. We purchased both canned Blue and small breed 'Protection' kibble and I noticed they were often picky about the canned product, some times refusing it. Would not eat the lamb or venison varieties. Stool was always light, and one of the two simply would not gain weight. And she needed to. Then, some time earlier this year (2013) that same dog started experiencing horrible bowl movements; mucus and blood. The diarrhea would not relent, and the smell...
Alarmed, I immediately took her in to the vet for an exam. Her functions came back within normal range, but she had a very high bacterial count. Flagyl, probiotics, and rehydration. She cleared up, only to have this happen again a few weeks later. Back to the vet...same treatment, same test results, same speculation that either she had gotten in to something (trash) or the dog food didn't agree with her digestive system. Since she only goes out on a leash and doesn't have access to food waste... When it happened a third time, instead of another $300 doctor's visit, I took her off the food, put her on probiotics and switched brands. She improved quickly, and has not had this problem since.
Interesting that this seemed to affect one dog much more than another, both of a similar size, but that it was linked directly to the food they both ate. The vet offered that the Blue formula had too much protein for a small dog to process, that this was a well-known problem, for her, anyway. No more diarrhea, even with the abrupt change.

I had a 13-year-old cat who had eaten Wellness for most of his life. Then he just stopped eating it and got emaciated. I took him to the vet who thought it was IBD, so I switched to Blue Buffalo Basics Duck and Potato. He loved it and so did my other 4 cats. I wound up having to put him down in June of 2013. I was thinking it was something with the Wellness and kept my other cats on Blue Buffalo But changed it to the Chicken and Potato. Then in September, I had a problem with another cat. Who I thought was constipated but in another few weeks turned out to be in Liver failure and had an inflamed gall bladder. It took well over two months and $2500 to save her life and get her back to normal.
My vet still has no idea what caused this. The only thing that changed was introducing Blue Buffalo to her diet. After that whole ordeal and her refusing to eat Blue Buffalo, I had to switch her to something else. I wish these pet food companies would stop outsourcing their ingredients from CHINA!!! We as a country should not be buying any food from China. Pet food companies never had this problem until they started turning for profit while putting pets at risk. Honestly, If I did not have so many cats I would make raw food myself. I just can't afford it right now. Totally disgusted with Pet food companies in general!

Well, I took my pup to the vet today and she has high counts of rod and cocci bacteria and colitis. We got my puppy in mid--June this year but my husband and I talked about what food we were going to feed him and Blue was a top name. Little did we know about the negative health effects it had. We started him on Wilderness and planned to use a cheaper healthy brand when he turned a year old, simply because he wouldn't need the protein and nutrition Blue had to offer. We never put two and other together until he started getting diarrhea and I spoke to my sister whose friend's kitten nearly died because Blue screwed up her immune system. Red Flags? Oh yes? We spoke to our vet when we noticed the diarrhea wasn't going away. A bland diet took the problem and shoved it. We put our puppy back on the Blue and within hours his stool was runny. I did research and we switched him. His runny eye, fixed within an hour of him eating just a little of new dog food. Overall, he's not drinking as much, not scratching, his coat is looks healthier and he's more of the dog I brought home with me.

I got my puppy 1/1/2013 and I started him on Blue Buffalo Puppy Food. He ate canned and dry. When he got older I started him on the adult Blue Buffalo both dry and canned. He seemed to do well on it until October 2013, he got a bout of severe vomiting and diarrhea. At that time I assumed he had a stomach thing going on as dogs will sometimes get. When it didn't clear up and I took him to the vet where they gave him Flagyl and did a complete exam, stool sample, checked everything out. After taking his meds, he got better and we continued on Blue.
On Thanksgiving morning he awoke being sick both vomiting and diarrhea - exact same symptoms and the way he acted before. He gets very sick on the first day and will do nothing but lay around and sleep and be sick. I still had some Flagyl so I gave him one to help stop the diarrhea until I could go to the vet the next day. Always the next day after starting the med he starts to get better. We go to the vet and she rechecks him again and once again tells me to give him a course of Flagyl as she cannot find anything to be causing this. It cleared up again only to be two weeks after he stopped the Flagyl to get it back the third time.
This time the vet says we have to find out what is causing the re-occurrence and I said the same thing. She performs blood work and tells me the possible things that could be a cause of this in dogs from simple things to Addison's disease. I am panicking, it may be something serious like this. I get the blood results back and they are all remarkable and fine. He is clearing up again with the Flagyl but is now on Science Diet ID until further notice to see if he has any re-occurrences.
I completely believe this is all related to the issues everyone else is having here. I am so sorry I decided to trust this company and will continue to tell people these stories. The fact the Blue will not respond to people or get any feedback speaks volumes to me!!!!

Blue Buffalo Wilderness Large Breed Puppy dry food - I have a 6-week old puppy. She was given to me and had been on Purina Puppy Chow without problem. When I got her, I decided to research on ingredients and decided to transition my puppy to a premium food. I picked BB because of ingredients and nearby availability, as well as the 5 star review on Dogfoodadvisor.com. In just two days, she began having many and very watery stools, which developed into diarrhea, dehydration and the protrusion of part of her rectum. She's currently (for at least 3 days) on boiled rice and chicken, antibiotics and ointments. Other signs were that she was very thirsty and very itchy to the point that she hurt herself. She was tested for parvo, etc., just to rule things out. She tested negative on all. The only change had been her food. The vet said that she's had an allergic reaction to at least some ingredient/s in this formula. So much for "premium" food!
I still want to feed her well, but I'm seriously considering how much we can really trust labels, even if they're rated very high based on their listed ingredients. I'm now of a split mind, whether to try Science diet or Castor and Pollux. The latter is in the premium category still, but it has a better price... We'll see. My vet's assistant told me she feeds her dogs Science Diet and they do great. Maybe I can add veggies and fruit slices into her diet as treats... One thing is for sure: I will NOT buy BB ever again. I will also warn others of mine (and other peoples') experiences with this brand. And, hopefully, I will be able to get my money back from either PetSmart or BB. It only took 1 1/2 little cups of this food over the course of 2 days (mixed with her previous one) to get my puppy really sick.

Let me say that my 12.5 year old German shepherd has been having joint problems "not caused by Blue" BUT it got very worse a day or 2 ago, he literally couldn't lift his butt up to get up. He couldn't even go outside and he is much too heavy to lift. I had to go to his vet and get Novox medication for his joints so he could get up because my mother was saying, "He doesn't want to eat his food and won't get up, it may be time to put him down". We eventually got him outside in the snow to go to the bathroom but my husband literally had to lift his butt up all the way up the stairs so we could get him back in!
My mother randomly googled Blue Buffalo and found that hundreds of people on Consumer Affairs have been having problems with Blue Buffalo! Itchy skin, hot spots, diarrhea, vomiting, blood spewing from their dog's rectum even! I put a bowl of Science Diet in front of my senior dog, HE ATE IT! He, a dog, was not eating Blue because he could smell there was something wrong with it! The inflammation caused his back legs to be too swollen to get up and caused pain when he was up! My dog of almost 13 years was almost PUT TO SLEEP because of the health problems Blue Buffalo caused! If we hadn't caught on to Blue in time my dog may have very well been put down!
I wonder how many animals have died on Blue Buffalo in the past year and the owners thought it was just "old age" or they were just "sick". No, Blue caused the sickness and now my lively old dog who the vet said could live to be 18 years old has not moved from his spot in the living room in hours and I can tell he is upset that he can't get up. DON'T EVER BUY BLUE BUFFALO, YOU WILL BE POISONING YOUR PETS! My in-law's pets are healthier than mine and they eat cheap old kibbles and bits! I thought if I loved my pets enough to pay a little more to get the expensive "natural" dog food that they would be fine, not getting sick because the people who bought out Blue Buffalo decided to CUT CORNERS and pay less for what is put in their food! I feel lied to and upset that I hurt my pets without knowing it. BLUE BUFFALO NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!!!!!

Have a 14 year old Pek/Yorki/Shih Tzu mix. Been on BB canned for years. Within the past few months I've noticed an increase in water consumption, vomiting (yellow mucous), runny stools and frequent urination. Last week she developed continual diarrhea. Three days and nights of diarrhea (every 2 hours), major gas, significant increase in water consumption and continual urination. Never had a problem with bowl or urination accidents in the house, but last week was a first. Poor dog urinated twice in the house and could not hold her stool.
After 2 nights of no sleep, called the vet to get the OK to keep her off all food for 24 hours. I waited 24 hours (she had no interest in eating) before I feed her some BB moist and she refused to eat it (experienced similar behavior during the major pet food recall several years back). I had a bag of dry Royal Canin and she ate it immediately. After eating, her stools were solid, no gas and the water consumption is back to normal. She is more alert and playing with her toys again.
So glad I found this website. I recently purchased 2 cases of BB canned dog food from PetSmart so I called and inquired if they had received any reported problems. Explained what occurred over the past few months. Their response: "Perhaps the food is too rich for her". All the recent posts noting similar situations confirm my suspicions regarding the food. Especially, since the results from of our yearly thorough blood panel/urinalysis tests in September were normal. Just hope between Oct 2013 and Dec 2013 the food has not caused permanent liver or kidney damage. After the devastating pet food recall a few years back, I was so hopeful when I discovered BB via our local Humane Society. No longer a fan.

Obviously she has always been on the large breed puppy, of large breed adult versions. Over the last month or two, she has been shedding a lot, pulling out the fur from her hind quarters, and been quite resistant to being brushed (which she used to love) to the point that she runs to her crate when she sees a brush. We thought maybe it was just needing omega added, but that has not helped and the problem has gotten drastically worse over the past 2 weeks.
Thankfully, she is not throwing up or any thing of that nature, and doesn't appear to have increased water intake. But I am now quite alarmed that BB is the cause of the fur mutilation, which has been confined to just her back end. Any thoughts of whether BB could be the problem? I will be going straight to the store in the morning for Innova or Wellness to see if that fixes the problem, along with a good oatmeal bath. It's also helping her to maintain a healthy weight since she had gained on a few too many pounds! She's doing really well on this diet, as I feed her a quarter cup twice daily (What all Veterinarians recommend an adult cat should be fed.) My cat is 14 years old and just can't wait to get another meal! (She's had Urinary Tract Infections a lot, but after putting her on this food she hasn't had any) Portion control is important, sometimes the bags go way over the recommended amount Veterinarians tell to give. Consult your vet about portion control, don't go by the label since it's a widespread range. I'm very pleased with this food and she has had no intestinal upset with it even when I didn't wean her off of her old food. I just started to give it cold turkey from her other diet and no problems!

A few months ago, Joey who is now 1 yr old, had crystals in his urine. Assuming that it was because of him being a puppy, his hygiene wasn't the best. Was put on antibiotics and Hills food for 10 days. The crystals cleared up. Then on Oct 17th of this year, he developed severe diarrhea and was vomiting. I gave him an Imodium and withheld food that night. The Next morning I fed him a small amount of food and within 15 mins. he threw that up too. We were out of town at the time, so I had to take him to a vet I knew nothing about.
Luckily, Brewer Vets in Springfield, IL were great. I immediately had them do an X-ray because this is a dog that was known to swallow rocks and it was the exact same symptoms. X-ray showed he had several pockets of gas in his stomach and intestines. All his blood work and vitals were normal. The vet thought that maybe the stress from traveling caused it. Although we were only 2 hrs. from home and Joey had slept the entire way there. Joey stayed at the vets for the day to make sure he did not become more dehydrated, then started him on Flagyl and Hills food for 5 days. After a few days of this, I put him back on BB. The diarrhea did not clear up and he was vomiting yellow phlegm in the morning about every 1 or 2 days.
At the same time that all this started with Joey, Frankie, who is 10 yrs., started drinking water excessively and peeing a lot. Took another stool sample of Joey's and a urine sample of Frankie's to my vets about 4 days later. Joey's stool sample was negative and Frankie's urine showed a very high pH count. Joey had also started drinking large amounts of water. More lab work done on Joey and also on Frankie. Both came back normal. We thought that maybe Joey had become allergic to chicken, so I bought a bag of BB fish & potato. Another 10-day round of Flagyl and Hills food for 3 or 4 days for Joey and antibiotics for Frankie.
After 2 weeks, Frankie had crystals in his urine and Joey still had Diarrhea. My vet put Frankie on a different antibiotic and Hills food for 2 weeks. Frankie has always gone to the bathroom 4 to 6 times a day and at least 1 time would be a soft stool. After 2 or 3 days on the Hills food, Frankie stopped drinking as much and going to the bathroom as often, and not one was diarrhea. Kind of made the light bulb go off. Frankie's urine sample yesterday still shows his pH is high but the crystals are gone. Started reading all the reviews about Blue Buffalo and was amazed at how many dogs had the same symptoms as Joey and Frankie. Switched all 4 of my dogs to Wellness dog food, no chicken in it either. Within 2 days, Joey's stools were almost normal again. 3 dogs I switched over cold turkey and Joey in 1 day. Not 1 of them even had soft stools from switching so fast. Both Joey and Ranger, 1 of my other dogs kept licking and chewing their butt every time they went to the bathroom. This stopped after switching food too.
At the time all this started, both Joey and Ranger were only getting cup of BB. In the morning they got raw chicken backs and freeze dried raw food. At night they got BB and cup freeze dried raw. I don't even want to think what might have happened to Joey if he had eaten only BB. Frankie and Leeah were getting straight BB. Lucky for me Leeah never got sick since she is 12 yrs old and wouldn't have bounced back as fast as Joey.
Its too bad that Blue Buffalo doesn't spend some of their money on trying to figure out what's wrong with their food instead of so much on advertising trying to convince people how good their dog food is. Even better, maybe they could pay my vet bills which, at this point, amount to hundreds of dollars. I had been using BB for almost 2 yrs. and you can bet I'll NEVER use it again. There are several sites on the web with bad reviews for BB and I'm going to try to post this to as many as I can find.

My male cat Bianca was a happy healthy 11 year old domestic short hair neutered tabby who had always lived inside since kittenhood. His biggest and best feature was his purr... Bianca purred constantly and was always seemingly happy; I called him Happy Cat as one of his nicknames. My daughter found him as a kitten at her high school and brought him home to stay, so he was a rescue kitten. We thought he was a female at first so we named him Bianca, and the name just stuck. Prior to August 2013 my cats Bianca and JB were always fed Iams dry cat food, chicken flavor, fish flavor, or for mature cats.
I began feeding Bianca and another inside spayed female cat I will call JB, who was 15 years old, solely Blue Buffalo Sensitive Stomach dry cat in early August 2013, as JB occasionally threw up after eating. Both cats were somewhat overweight and weighed about 14-15 pounds each then. PetSmart recommended the Sensitive Stomach type of Blue Buffalo dry cat food, so I bought a big bag of the chicken flavor. Both cats had one big on-demand cat food bowl that automatically let them eat as much as they wanted.
In late August 2013 both cats came down with upper respiratory infections - very surprising as both cats were always healthy/never sick, so they were taken to the vet. JB was taken to Rimforest Animal Hospital in Rimforest, California. And when Bianca he had symptoms he was taken to Arrowhead Animal Hospital in Blue Jay, California, and both were put on the same meds. At the time in August Bianca weighed 14.5 pounds. I remember Bianca purred so loudly at the vet appointment that the veterinarian tried to get Bianca to stop purring when listening to his chest.
Both cats recovered but looked thinner during and after recovery and the meds, but continued to have good appetites and drank a lot of water, used the cat box and were active. Both continued to eat only the BB Sensitive Stomach dry cat food - a whole big bag of chicken flavor. When they ate all the chicken flavor, I bought some BB Sensitive Stomach dry cat food fish flavor and duck flavor.
In October the cats the cats were thinner but still eating and drinking well and were active, no signs of illness. On Friday October 25, 2013, I checked on the cats early in the morning and changed their cat box and water and checked their food supply. Both were active and appeared well and in good spirits. I left for a 2 day trip to Montana which had been previously planned. When I returned home Sunday night October 27, 2013, about 8:15 PM and went straight to check on the cats I found Bianca dying.
Bianca appeared confused and weak and had lost a surprising amount of weight and was cool to the touch and bony... he weighed maybe 5 pounds? I was frantic and crying. I tried to feed him a little Purina wet food, an occasional treat he loved, but he could not eat it. I put him under my shirt and then zipped up my jacket to warm him up and called family crying and they called the emergency vet. I drove him straight to Rimforest Animal hospital in Rimforest, California with him still zipped up inside my shirt and jacket. Bianca peed all over me when I began running to the car. I met my son Kelly there who was there for support.
The vet named Darryl at Rimforest Animal Hospital checked Bianca and told me, paraphrased here: This cat is yellow. He is jaundiced. Look inside his mouth and inside his ears. It is yellow. It is most likely liver failure. In vet school we had a saying, “A yellow cat is a dead cat.” His temperature is below normal and he has labored breathing. You can try and save him and spend $3,000 to $5,000 and may still lose him anyway. He is suffering... you may want to consider euthanasia.
I was so shocked. Liver failure? How? Why? What had happened? My son and I talked it over and he called my daughter and we decided the kindest and most humane benevolent behavior to do was to give Bianca to God. So I held Bianca while he purred and was euthanized. I cried all night long and called in for a sub to take over my class the next day. All the next day, the days after that, and the next week it haunted me and I was tearful... what had happened to Bianca? He was never sick. What had happened? What had gone wrong? Why?
JB was still on the BB Sensitive Stomach dry cat food at home as I had no clue yet. However when I came home from school on Tuesday evening on Nov. 5, 2013, I checked on JB and thought her cat box smelled funny, which I had just changed 2 days before, so I began to change it. There was an incredible amount of pee in her cat box. I was so shocked. I thought of Bianca and immediately after changing the cat box I went to my computer and typed in Blue Buffalo cat food + illness and up came 446+ Consumer Affairs complaints against the Blue Buffalo pet foods. I read about puppies and dogs getting sick and dying and I read about kittens and cats getting sick and dying. Some had memorial pictures. I read about pets drinking and urinating an enormous amount of pee, and I read about pets dying of kidney failure and liver failure, like Bianca.
I immediately threw away all of the BB dry cat food in JB's big bowl and gave her Iams cat food. I took the remaining bags of BB Sensitive Stomach dry cat food (Fish and Duck) to PetSmart for an immediate return and bought Iams dry cat food with the return credit. The next day I called the vet at Arrowhead Animal Hospital who Bianca saw in late August 2013 when he weighed 14.5 pounds and asked them to email me that paperwork, which they did. I then called the Rimforest Animal Hospital vet who saw Bianca on October 27, 2013, and euthanized him, and asked them to send me that paperwork, which they did. I informed both vets and offices about the BB dry cat food and Rimforest receptionist stated, "Sounds like someone needs to start a class action lawsuit."
JB is now gaining weight and eating Iams dry cat food, however she is still drinking a lot of water and urinating a large amount of pee in her cat box. We all miss Bianca dearly and daily... He was clearly the favorite between the two kitties. I had no idea it was the BB Sensitive Stomach dry cat food that made the cats thinner and drink so much and made Bianca so morbidly ill and suffer so much he had to be euthanized. You have no idea the pain and anger and guilt one feels at feeding a beloved pet lethal pet food for 3 months and not knowing.
PLEASE, please, please STOP this company from making and selling pet foods that make innocent dogs and cats, puppies and kittens so DEATHLY ILL that they die or must be euthanized to prevent their further suffering. I have all the vet paperwork if you need it along with proof and pictures of the BB dry cat food products bought, used, and eaten. When you buy an EXPENSIVE pet food like Blue Buffalo pet foods it should be SAFER and BETTER for your pet not KILL THEM. I would be happy to send you a picture of Bianca both as a kitten and as an adult as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

My 9 yr old blue heeler was diagnosed a little over a yr ago with pancreatitis. We changed her diet to low fat chicken and rice with Beneful healthy weight. She did great. The end of Oct she began drinking water like crazy as well as urinating every 15-20 mins. I was sure she was in kidney failure. I was relieved when my vet said her pancreatic enzymes were perfect, her kidneys were fine, but her liver enzymes were slightly elevated. Not enough to be concerned with. After bloodwork and urinalysis she was diagnosed with bladder inf (WHEW). He recommended to try her on Buffalo blue low fat.
I immediately began her on the $56.00 bag of dog food. We treated for bladder inf. She cont drinking excessive water but stopped peeing in the house. After two weeks on Buffalo blue she was bloating up and panting constantly. She began throwing up, never had before. The next am we went to a second vet. He was shocked by the elevation of liver damage in just 2 weeks. He kept her overnight for liver tx and she died the next am. We never dreamed the food change had anything to do with it.
I decided to give the remaining food to my other heeler who could also afford to lose a few pounds. She was feeling fine. After one week of eating this she tonight began panting, mucous membranes real red, and she is acting lethargic and showing signs of bloat. Coincidence?? I think not. I am so disgusted right now I am afraid to even throw this out. I am hesitant to see it land up in a landfill poisoning wildlife. Next time someone recommends me feed this to my dog, I will just give them antifreeze to drink. Same outcome only a little quicker results.

I switched my dogs to BB healthy weight small bites because my vet said they needed a good quality lower fat food. They were on Castor and Pollux grain free but she said they were getting too heavy on grain free. Yesterday after feeding them dinner within ten minutes they were vomiting all over the house, huge piles and diarrhea. It was all liquid like mucus looking. The last week my newer rescue pup has been randomly throwing up. Tonight I boiled them chicken and mixed it with brown rice. You would think for the price you pay for this brand you would not have to worry about your babies. It's not like we are feeding them Beneful, which I would never do!
I am taking BB back to PetSmart and going back to Castor and Pollux. I never had any problems with this food... I'm devastated to have this happen to my babies. :( I had one that vomited half the night and was so lethargic. He's only two. I was so worried. :(

My 8 year old poodle became very ill after I changed her dog food to what I was thinking was a better food. She had blood work done a month ago. Her Liver enzyme ALT was 51. I started her on Blue Buffalo for about 2 weeks. Last Friday, she started urinating all over, even where she slept. The next day, we took her to vet emergency room, thinking she had UTI. They did urine and blood tests. No UTI. Her Liver ALT enzyme was 725, which means there is dead cells. The only change in my Bella was her BB. Her internal specialist vet did many diagnostics and more blood work. Vet told me to go back to her old food. She is on antibiotics and Flagyl. Her enzyme levels are going down now. Without the help of her vet, she probably wouldn't be here. Thanks, Blue Buffalo.

My dog has all of these symptoms. She had a bladder FULL of stones, which we are trying to come up with the money to pay for surgery. I figured okay, it happens. We aren't sure what caused it. Then on Saturday of this month, I bought a new bag of Buffalo food same brand and kind I always get, and I fed her it on Saturday. Sunday, she is SICK. She throws up vile, then she has diarrhea with blood. She throws up again, purple this time. More Diarrhea.
It's Wednesday and still diarrhea but the blood has stopped as far as I can tell. She has been having gas, always drank a lot of water, itchy eyes and skin, but I figured she was allergic to something outside. I've been with BB for almost 4 years. Maya my dog is 5 years old as of October. I will be taking all of the BB food back to Petsmart as soon as I'm off work today. I'm so angry. I hope she is okay. What did everyone else switch to after taking their dogs off??

Blue Buffalo Small Breed Adult - ALMOST KILLED MY DOG!! I have been feeding BB for 3 years and have never had any issues. I have 3 small dogs 2 Maltese & a terrier mix. This past week my 4 pound Maltese developed a sever case of colitis. She had blood spewing from her rectum & was vomiting. I had to take her to the vet where she was hospitalized for almost 2 days. Right after I got her out the other 2 dogs became severely sick. I only feed them BB products. They don't get table scraps & they didn't get into anything else. The vet recommended putting them on boiled chicken & rice along with the antibiotics. They were completely fine on the chicken & rice but when I reintroduced their BB dry food all of the symptoms came back this morning and they were chewing on their feet. I looked online to see if there any recalls but I didn't see anything listed. I then saw the HUNDREDS of consumer complaints that have come out this past month.
As a pet owner I am in complete shock that BB would continue selling their products knowing that there's a problem with them. BB is slowing killing thousands of beloved pets. I just hope that I got mine off of the BB brand in time. I took the remaining food back to Petsmart in hopes of it being tested. The kid that checked me out stated that several people have been returning the BB food. I wish that there was more that I could do to warn people about using your product. BLUE BUFFALO SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. BLINDLY TURNING THE OTHER CHEEK WHEN HUNDREDS OF DOGS ARE BECOMING SICK IS DISGUSTING.

We are very unhappy with the Blue pet food. After two months of continue feeding the Blue pet food to my 8 year old dog, it caused frequent diarrhea and tearing excessively from both eyes (the tear appears to be brown color). My neighbor's dog also had the same issue. I did not link the two and two together until I asked what type of food my neighbor feeds the dog. Therefore, I stopped the food and change to another brand. The diarrhea stopped and his eyes cleared. So please be careful when feeding your pet. Watch out the reaction. It may not suitable for your dog if they experience the above symptom.

I am increasingly disturbed to hear Blue Buffalo apparently wants to increase their sales force efforts in store, sometimes under the guise of bringing customers with pets, instead of fixing their food issue! Another place to report them to have their food investigated is the Dept of Agriculture in Connecticut where they're based. The handful of positive reviews undoubtedly have to be their employees as why would anyone come on a forum where everyone is complaining to sing the food's praises when pets have died?
Let's get real. Even if Blue Buffalo fixed the problem, at the point it's unforgivable. They have chosen to not act at all or with a sense of remorse or responsibility and don't deserve a second chance. What they are doing by attempting to preserve their reputation is actually destroying it. I wouldn't feed my puppy this food ever again even if I had to cook him foods every night and that was the only other option. I would suggest emailing their CEO and President - their emails of course are not posted online (although CEO's emails are to be made available to the public) but it's a matter of (first name initial) (last name) at bluebuffalo dot com. The CEO is Kurt Schmidt. Good luck to everyone

I have fed my 9-year old Havanese dog Blue Buffalo Home Style Recipe Small Breed canned food for several years. On Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, I opened a can of food and the contents were covered in mold. This can wasn't dented and the expiration date is in 2015. On Nov. 3, 2013, I filed a complaint with the FDA and I sent an e-mail to Petsmart where I purchased the food and also to Blue Buffalo. Petsmart called me on Monday to apologize for this incident and stated that this case is being turned over to their Quality Dept. They further advised me to return the food to the store for a refund.
Blue Buffalo's response was: Thank you for contacting us. I'm sorry to hear about your recent experience. For mold to form in a canned food, the seal would have had to have been compromised, allowing the product to be exposed to excess air. Unfortunately, because there are a couple of touch points after the product leaves the manufacturer, it will be difficult to know where this may have occurred. I appreciate the product information you provided and have documented it in our database for our QA Team. You mentioned that you purchased 7 cans, were all 7 cans moldy? I apologize again for this experience. Whenever you purchase a BLUE product, it comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not completely happy with your purchase, you can return the unused portion to the retailer for a full refund or exchange with a receipt.
I didn't open the other cans that I purchased along with this can because I have no intention whatsoever of giving my dog this product again. I'm not returning the spoiled can to the store either. I have it double bagged in plastic in my freezer as proof. I'm trying to be proactive so no other animal gets sick. I found the other comments on this site about Blue Buffalo food very interesting. My dog had similar experiences. Many times she would smell the food and wouldn't touch it and I would have to throw it out. She must have know something was wrong with it. She has has bouts of watery diarrhea, mucus in the stools, lethargic.
My dog also developed gum disease and I had to have 24 teeth removed this year. This may or may not be related to the food, just thought I would mention it. That surgery cost me $2,200. I purchased Wellness canned food for my dog on Tuesday evening. I gave her the chicken flavor and she sniffed it and ate it all and loved it. I attached pictures (3 pages) of the canned food and the mold problem. I would suggest that people keep filing complaints with the FDA (Food & Drug Administration). They have a section for animal food.

Blue Buffalo is a joke and they are all about the money and putting out dog crap. That's what I had to deal with for days after feeding this to my dogs and cleaning up the mess. Luckily they have crates so it didn't mess up my carpet. If you think we are other dog food companies then buy this dog crap for yourself and see what happens. But let this post be a warning. Loose stools, throwing up, and not very active dogs. The only reason I bought this dog food is because the DOG FOOD ADVISOR gave this dog food 5 stars. Shame on me. This is before I found this website. I dog food rotate because I like to give my dogs different food and snacks, so this should tell you I do not work for a dog food company.
I had stock up on food 6 months ago. I buy my dog food when it's on sale so I can get the best deal. Just to name a few, Eukanuba, Wellness, Nature's Recipe, Nature's Variety, Diamond, Merrick, Earthborn, and last and worst of all BLUE BUFFALO WILDERNESS. If you go to Dog Food Advisor, you will see most of these dog foods are 5-star ratings. Also go to their site. You will also see the same issues with the dog food with customers. I have 2 Blue Pitbull American Bullies. I got them around Mother's Day this year. I spent about $3500 on them and would have been upset if something did happen to them.
Due to the fact that after buying this food I had found this website and I had about 8 different bags of dog food in a cool dry basement. I told my girlfriend to read comments on this site and if our dogs get sick, it will be from this food. My dogs are used to changing foods. They don't get the runs. If you dog food rotate, they will get used to it. I was also lucky because I went to the basement and opened a different brand of dog food and they were better within 24 hrs. I have heard of people's dogs dying and I am sorry for your loss.
BB is all about seeing a profit. That's what this country has come down to, money over everything. Once again if you don't believe us, buy this dog crap and see what happens, lots of dog crap. One more thing when I first saw this website, the number was like 380 complaints. Now 444. I would give this dog food negative 3 stars.

Well after feeding them Blue Buffalo they both have loose stool and the cat that throws up from time to time is doing it constantly. My husband, someone that really doesn't care for my cats, is concern of what is going on.
I thought I was doing something good and buying healthier food. I did things a little backwards and read the reviews after purchasing. Only to find many people complaining about the same problems (dogs and cats). Needless to say I will not feed Blue Buffalo anything to my cats anymore. This went on for about a week and I switched them to the BB for sensitive stomach. Did not help. Spoke with vet about this twice. By now it's gone on for 3 weeks. I tried acidophilus, kaopectate, feeding smaller amounts, etc. Finally took older dog in for fecal exam. His whole system was upset. He received 2 types of antibiotics and a probiotic. The bill was $196 total with all the tests they had to run to determine the cause. My vet said she sees many cases of diarrhea with this brand. I took my dogs off of it immediately. They both seem fine and no more getting up in the night to poop. Will return the food (both bags) for a total of $83 which is only half the cost of the vet visit.

My 10 year old Golden Retriever had surgery in Feb 2013. My vet suggested I consider a more holistic food for him. I decided on BB. My dog has been sick ever since. He's had diarrhea like liquid, threw up a few times and absolutely NO ENERGY. His energy level decreased to the point of his back leg muscles starting to atrophy. We've been back to the vet several times testing for everything. Blood work, fecal tests, X-rays and ultrasound..... all negative!!!!! Everyone said age. I knew age doesn't hit that quick. I believe the food we feed our dogs has everything to do with their health... So I threw away almost a full bag of Blue Buffalo, large breed senior dry.
Then a few days later I saw a friends post about BB and all these issues. It was our story exactly. After about a week, my dog is finally starting to improve. WARNING TO BB.... you have not heard the last from me. If your food has anything to do with my dog not recovering from these symptoms, I will take action until you are held accountable for all these dogs illnesses. ALSO, stop putting your sales people in the aisles of pet stores impersonating customers and pushing your food. It's unethical and probably illegal. Talk soon!!!

I was surprised to see all the negative reviews! My German shepherd has been eating BB Wilderness grain-free food for about 2 years with no ill effects. He is four years old. I find it hard to believe that consumers have been using BB food for four or five years and all of a sudden the pet gets horribly ill. As your pet gets older, their metabolism slows down. It is possible that they are no longer able to properly digest the food. BB is nutrient dense and older dogs do not have the ability to break it down, so they vomit. This is not BB's fault. The pet owner needs to understand his or her pet and take better care of them. It's easy to blame food, but it doesn't make sense.
Exercise your dog more. Walking them around the block twice a day is not exercise. They need to run and use the nutrients from BB. If they don't use this energy, your dog will get sick. I also believe that dogs who get ill after eating BB food for years probably have other, age-related issues. Stop feeding your dogs only dry kibble. I mix in warm, cooked chicken with some of the liquid stock with each feeding. It makes a yummy gravy and helps my dog digest better. If you just dump food in their bowl without washing the bowl or adding some wet element, then your dog will get sick.
Blue Buffalo is a good, but expensive brand. My dog is highly active, going swimming, running, passing and some seeking activities. If your dog is mostly a couch potato, then please do not feed them BB. BB is for active, healthy dogs. Please learn to be better pet parents rather than blaming the food. It's unfortunate your sweeties have to suffer because you don't want to take the extra time to learn their biology. In the time out took you to write an angry review, you could have given your dog an hour of fun and vigorous exercise.

I'm relieved to see some of the other posts here because I'm really concerned about my Pom. She had been eating BB for a couple of years. About a month ago she got diarrhea (as she does from time to time). This time was different though because it lasted 2 weeks. Then I noticed droplets of pure blood in the stool. I brought her to the vet. My vet found nothing wrong when she checked the fecal sample and suspected it was the food. She said she has seen many dogs who do not do well on it. She gave my baby a shot, sent me home with 24 Flagyl tablets to be given 2x a day, and a few cans of Science Diet for sensitive stomach.
Within 2 days Dixie's stool was normal again. I opted for Nutro for sensitive stomach since Science Diet is quite expensive. It was going well. Then about 10 days later I brought her on a week long vacation. My parent's 5 dogs were with us, all of whom eat BB. A few days in, Dixie had eaten some BB again since all the other dogs were eating it. The bloody diarrhea struck again. Now I feel for sure that it is the food. My mom's dogs seem to be fine on it (though her corgi did have an accident in the house which was also diarrhea). However, I'm again giving Dixie Flagyl until she recovers. I will never let her eat BB again.

This is a follow up post to the one I posted previously. Since removing my 4 dogs and cat off of Blue Buffalo products all of their symptoms (bloating, shaking, diarrhea, vomiting, foul gas, refusal to eat their food at times, drinking a lot of water) have all stopped! My younger dog is no longer urinating in her bed while asleep and all have increased energy. I’m completely convinced that Blue Buffalo was the reason my pets became ill. I previously had fed Blue Buffalo to all my pets for 4 years and recommended their product to others. Never again will I feed Blue Buffalo products!
It is heartbreaking that so many pets are becoming ill and Blue Buffalo is not responding to the issue. I’m fortunate that my pets have recovered and that I found the reviews of others who took the time to post on this site to let pet owners know what they were experiencing with their pets being fed Blue Buffalo. THANK YOU to all who posted your reviews! It is because of those reviews that I took my pets off of Blue Buffalo products immediately. All of my pets are now on Halo brand dog/cat food and are doing well. I chose Halo because they have never had a recall and I’m very satisfied with the results.
To those who question whether the reviews on this site are legitimate or from a competitor, I can tell you personally from my post that I am a real pet owner and I do not work for a pet food competitor. I love my pets and I’m frustrated that my pets became ill. I’m not seeking compensation or anything in posting my story other than to possibly save someone else’s pet(s) that might be experiencing what mine were.

Within a few months he (my pom) was getting diarrhea almost every day; he would puke up food or it would just be a bunch of spittle. He would get lethargic and would most of the time not eat the food at all until I gave him a piece of chicken or something so he wouldn't go hungry. It had been getting more and more frequent until I decided to look into the food I was giving him.
I checked his treats since I was hearing bad news about jerky and there were no bad reviews so I checked his food and that's why I'm here. I was confronted by a BB rep a few weeks ago (Oct 5 - Blue rep: Aida) telling me to go to their site and to rave about their product if I could. This was before I found out about the product. I live in Overland Park, KS and if you look up the weather for the above date, you'll see that we had a big storm pass through and I have been out in it with my dog off and on since around 5 P.M. on Oct. 30th because he has horrible diarrhea and vomiting. On Oct. 29th 2013, I purchased the small pink bag of Blue Buffalo Wilderness for small breeds. I fed him one bowl, along with the same meal he has been eating for a year with no problems at all (Fresh Pet) and this is the only meal he has had and it would be a pathetic attempt to say it was anything else but Blue Buffalo that has made him this sick. I am worried sick because I have been reading about dogs that have had renal failure from this product and it looks like some have died.
I am a single guy, with no kids, and my dog is all I have and I am extremely upset about this. I was reading before I went to bed (a few hours ago) that Blue Buffalo or someone in favor of Blue Buffalo, said that all of the complaints on this site are from people that work for competitors and we are liars. Let me be clear, I do not work for a dog food company. I enroll people for college and my employer has nothing to do with this complaint. This is not a website where people would go and use dirty, slimy, but typical, corporate tactics like that. All you have to do is read the actual complaints and you can tell that the claim that we are working for competitors is a sad and desperate attempt to confuse a few people that just want to buy the best product for the pets that they love, as much as I love mine. In fact, I read several of these and I have no proof, but it seems obvious to me that a lot of the posts that are for Blue Buffalo, were written by people that work for Blue Buffalo. I'm on here because I'm extremely upset that my dog is suffering and not because I am being compensated by Blue Buffalo.

Bbf Basics Fish and Potato for Cats - Both of mine began Puking Large quantities, the way a dog who overeats will do. It looked like water soaked kibble bits. The first cat developed stones and a blockage and was put down last week after being on the food for a year? He had bird anything allergies. But when the 1.5 y/o kitten began vomiting up this latest bag, I switched the food brands as she has no known allergies and I won't use a food that could be the same batch as the bad bag... Different vomits mean different things. And if a dog or cat has a food allergy and you won't spend the money to have them tested specifically, you can't really blame the foods and support one over another when you don't know What is causing the reaction to begin with...
But this business of Stones and Vomiting in Cats has me concerned. I'm glad I'm no longer feeding it. Neither cat ever liked it much, but it was the Only cat food on the market I found w/o Bird products in it so I Had to use it. They would pick out the life source bits and eat the rest grudgingly. Bloody bombs and butt dragging is Weird. I'd have thought Worms with butt dragging.... You also can't just switch a cat's food the way you can with a dog for those that don't realize such things. You have to switch gradually, so some of these posts I'm not too sure about the reliability of. But def bothersome....
If your animal EVER gets Lethargic, Acts Off, Vomiting, Or Bleeding, you should take them off that food Immediately and get to a vet... I wonder where and with what this food is being processed with and by... Is it all grain free that people are having troubles with? Since I know molded corn is allowed and they upped the toxin levels from such and that's Known to really make pets ill.... I choose grain free for that reason. I don't understand how people can wait through vomiting, bloody behinds, butt dragging and discharge and not Instantly suspect the food and stop using it... Now the Stones thing is Common in male cats and caused by a PH imbalance in many cases... I hope this food is not why my 3 y/o cat had to be put down... That makes me feel sad and a little angry that the pet food could be why he's dead now. I know most cases of stones are food related namely, Friskies for cats... But I was Supposed to be feeding the Best not some kind of crap food. Was I lied to? >.<
