I have two dogs both are severely ill from the food. Symptoms lethargic, bloody diarrhea, vomiting. I called the pet store they had no idea of any recalls. Blue Buffalo needs to communicate recalls to the stores so they pull the product (Blue Buffalo Wilderness and Blue Basic soft food). Stores. This is issue has caused high veterinary bills to stabilize my two dogs' health. One of my dogs is still passing blood every couple hours. Clearly there is an issue with the product.

I have a 9 year old Aussie/Retriever that suffered from allergies. His ears stunk and were very hard to keep from getting infected. He chewed on his feet incessantly, and had small sores all over his body that drove him crazy. I switched to BB (Life Protection Formula Adult Chicken & Brown Rice) about 3 weeks ago and he is already 95% better. I don't doubt that BB has caused problems with some dogs, but read reviews about any brand and you will see the same theme; my dog was perfectly healthy despite being 100 years old, and all he did was smell (insert any brand) and he died immediately.
One person said, "I fed my dog BB for 2 weeks and he died after a week". Come on people! If you're going to write a review, leave out the hyperbole and state facts. As a responsible pet owner, I will closely monitor my dog's health and act accordingly. I got so freaked out by some of the reviews of several brands of dog food that I got analysis paralysis. There are way too many sponsors and ads on any site you find to trust them. YMMV.

I came across Blue Buffalo chicken and rice formula (blue bag) for my senior Maltese around November '16 upon recommendations. My maltese was a perfectly healthy dog who had no issues transitioning to any food... My beloved 13lb boy started throwing up with diarrhea, refusing to eat anything drinking tons of water... His stomach symptoms worsened despite throwing away the food immediately and taking him to the vet. High liver levels, rapid weight loss, vomiting, trembling, unexplained seizures that would come at night (died out after the food was completely out of the system). He was so emaciated we could not do any invasive testing and had to rely on medication based on an educated guess of what was going on.
The doctors could not make out what made him so sick, since ultrasound, x-ray, all came normal and it only could be guessed as a severe inflammation of small intestines. I had to put him down 3 weeks ago on May 19th. He was a perfectly healthy dog with NO HEALTH ISSUES. Not even teeth, skin, nothing. I was told by the blue buffalo rep that they make their foods with all natural, high quality ingredients and I came across with all these posts with dedicated owners losing their beloved pets due to this piece of crap. I hope this company shuts down. Terrible!

I have 3 dogs 2 bullies and a pit/lab mix. My lab/pit is 8 1/2 years old and has the beginning stages of arthritis... I started giving her something for it as well as multivitamins, brushing bones for her teeth and fresh breath tablets. While on my monthly trip to Petco on Friday June 2nd for these things I asked a woman a question about salmon versus omega-3 pills. She told me if I fed them Blue Buffalo I wouldn't need to buy all those things because it has it in there already so it would save me money. She was very persistent on selling the food. I said I would try a small bag (at $33) first to see if they liked it. She came with the 22 lb bag (at $58). I said "maybe I should wait" but she insisted I try it now stating "try it for a couple days, if your dogs absolutely do not like it you can bring it back".
Well that night my husband and I decided to try it. We did as she explained 75% old food to 25% Blue Buffalo. My dogs' bedtime is around 9/9:30. I let them out in the backyard and immediately noticed all 3 had a loose stool. The next morning again they had a loose stool. Cleo which is the 8 1/2 year old started vomiting her food up from the night before. She would not eat her breakfast which is not unusual for her as she come down to eat after the other 2 are finished... She thinks she's a diva. That afternoon I notice she still hadn't eaten. This is just 1 day after introducing them to this. Since then she hasn't eaten anything. The only way she gets water is because I shot it in her mouth with a syringe. She's been urinating all over the house (rare for her) just sleeps, barely able to walk and has a green discharge coming from her eyes.
Yesterday my husband suggested we research Blue Buffalo and I came across this website. I was at work when I read some of these stories and symptoms the other dogs were having which sound a lot like my Cleo. I cried my eyes out thinking "Oh God is my dog dying". Got home Sunday morning to no change in her. We did everything... The bland diet, eye wash, giving her water through a syringe so she would stay hydrated. We're taking her to the Vet today as soon as I get home... I just pray it's not too late.
By the way my other 2 Blanco 2 and Shadoe 4 still had diarrhea when we stopped it. There has to be something that can be done, how can this company be allowed to sell food that they know poisons animals. And for that matter the stores that sell it knowing it has caused damage to animals. I will sue Petco as well for selling a product knowing damn well what it's doing. My Cleo has seen me through kidney failure, dialysis (6 years), my continuing battle with Lupus, as well as kidney transplant. My dogs helped me heal after my transplant when I was confined to my room for the first 2 months after the transplant. Cleo would get on the bed with me after dialysis when I was sick and would not get up until I did, I'm praying she'll be ok.

We have two 16 month old litter mate, golden retrievers and a pomeranian. We opened a new bag of Blue Buffalo Kibble (that they have been on for months), then all three had loose stools, and some bloating with lethargy. This went on for a month, with us eliminating whatever we could to diagnose the problem. Then the kibble was almost gone, and we thought it might be their food. We purchased a new bag, and the loose stool problem went away in 48 hours with all three at the same time, with no other changes in their diet.
I had heard that this company had some contaminated food/or adding something into the foods that had made dogs ill with gastrointestinal ailments. I do believe our dogs were reacting to something in that bag of food, and we will not support this company and will change to another brand for our beloved pups. I feel so sad for some of you that have lost your sweet pets, or struggled with illnesses from this brand of pet food. There should be a level of integrity and accountability to these large companies that feel they are untouchable. Thanks for reading.

I just had to put my beloved 8.5 year old male cat down because he had a complete urinary tract block from cystitis and became septic. He has been eating Blue Buffalo since I adopted him as a 5 week old kitten. He also got a daily can of wet cat food. I am devastated and have been trying to learn everything I can about feline urinary tract infections only to learn that the expensive cat food I have been feeding him KILLED him! I spent the first couple days grieving and now I am so angry. Had I not given him Blue Buffalo I may still have my little fur buddy. UGH!! I will never use this product again if and when I decide to adopt another cat.

I'm happy found this page. I have a 10 y/o Boxer and a 3 y/o Chihuahua mix. The Boxer suffers from arthritis and I need to watch her weight. I went to PetSmart and they recommended Blue Buffalo Healthy weight Adult chicken & Brown Rice Recipe. The boxer is losing weight very quickly, simply because she refuses to eat it and rather goes hungry than even give it a chance. The chihuahua will eat it after he realizes there is not more choices.

Nature's Evolutionary Diet adult Dry Dog Food 100% Grain Free - My Dog absolutely loves this dog food. But she hates the "LifeSource Bits". She spits them out and I'm constantly sweeping them up. I went to the pet store to find another dog food and the employee there told me she's had several customers complain of the same thing. So I am only finding another brand because there are little pellets all over my floor.

My dog has been on this dry food for several years. Bought a new bag yesterday and within an hour of eating the first meal from it became severely ill. Diarrhea and severe vomiting and crying as she vomited. I liken it to a bad case of food poisoning. Will return the bag today and switch her to something else. She was not ill or had any symptoms prior to eating. I will report to Blue Buffalo. Either a tainted batch or possible change in recipe?

Both of them have uncontrollable diarrhea all night. One of my dogs has also been very lethargic and not wanting to play with is very much unlike him, he is constantly on the go. That haven't been on it long at all and they are already miserable. I'm never buying this food again.

Blue Buffalo KILLED MY DOG at the ripe old age of 1 year old. The vet told me he sees many dogs in his office sick and dying because of this dog food. My aunt has 2 Yorkies that have developed chronic colitis which is incurable. Blood in stools, vomiting, loss of appetite. I also have clients who have told me their cats and dogs have developed bloody stools because of this dog food. Not to mention this dog food has had several RECALLS. I hate that Blue Buffalo has those people in the pet stores trying to sell you their dog food. If it was so good then you wouldn't need someone trying to sell you it! PLEASE. I beg you never ever buy this dog food.

I would like to warn all dog owners. After changing from regular Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice to Freedom Grain Free Chicken and brown rice. My dog ate approx. 1 cup when I noticed she stopped eating anything. The vet put her on a bland diet and she seemed to improve, but when the BB food was added to her bland diet she again stopped eating. The vets blood panel showed her kidneys were shutting down. The numbers were so high the vet said she wouldn't survive, he described it as a major toxic event. The dog lost 7 lbs. In 9 to 10 days with oral tube feeding of beef & rice, her normal weight being 23 lbs. The nausea meds did not help her keep food down. I had her put down on May 09 '17 because she refused to eat and couldn't hold down food also she started to have blood in her urine on the evening of May 08 '17. Now I see all Blue Buffalo food is on sale with free shipping! How can they sleep at night?

Last year we were looking for a new senior food for my 3 dogs since they're all seniors. We were told by not only our vet but others that Blue Buffalo was best for them, so we went out and grabbed a bag. While into the bag Boxer started having stomach issue more than usual, and my Maltese started having skin issues dry flaky skin. Was told it was an allergy to the food so we took the unused portion bag back and returned to the normal food we had been giving them with no further issues. Meanwhile my Maltese started losing hair I mean patches of hair. Took him back to the vet and they said they needed to run a skin test. 4 days later we got the results and it was positive for a rare form of skin cancer. Due to his age and size they did not recommend treatment saying it would kill him faster than if we just to let it go. Shortly after that he lost his hair on his body, had big dry spots. We tried everything lotions, baths.
Until a few days ago he started developing lesions on his body. He couldn't get comfortable, was spitting up his water, having trouble breathing. We could no longer seeing what he was going through that we had to put him down today. 7 months after being told he had cancer. Before Blue Buffalo my dogs were perfectly healthy. No issues. We were just trying to find them a good senior food that they all can eat together. Since then my Boxer formed a type of MS and was put down in Dec 2016. My Maltese had cancer was put down today, and my other dog has really never been the same. Shame on you Blue Buffalo for your false advertising on your food. Profit before health. I hope you guys go to hell, and how can you live with yourselves seeing what you are doing to families who cherish their animals. I hope it's worth it. I never know how many people disliked this company till I started doing research a few months back on it.

Back to another ER clinic again today. Vet told me to get her off that food. She was lethargic, would eat or drink water, would hide refusing to eat. She was in agonizing pain. I could read her. It has to be the Blue Buffalo. Confirmed at the new Vet today. Thanks to her Chloe is on her way to recovery. The remaining product at home is now in the trash, whereas it belongs!!

I was feeding my 17 year old cat very successfully with Castor and Pollux Organic food. Pet stores stopped carrying it, so I (slowly as recommended) switched over to Blue Wilderness, figuring it was the next best healthy. My poor little kitty started peeing, completely emptying her bladder, all over the house! Or NEXT to the litter box, but not in it. Then she developed constipation. There were no behavioral reasons for this, and I started to accept that maybe her kidneys were failing as happens to old cats.
I was SO sad, as she is like my best friend! I had just taken her to the vet only a month before and got a full work up, totally successful, except for a few old teeth, not surprising for an old cat! So before taking her back to the vet, I searched around and found the C and P organic food, started her back on that, (along with a laxative). Lo and behold, she started improving! Now, 2 months later she is back to her fastidious litter box habits, running around, even climbing trees. So, if you want to go through the hell of considering putting your cat down because of apparent pain and urine all over your house, buy Blue Wilderness food. If you want a healthy happy cat, get Castor and Pollux Organic food. This is the food that also seemed to cure my old boy cat of months of diarrhea, within a few days of switching to this food, he never had diarrhea again.

We have fed our 6 year old Husky Blue Buffalo for over a year without problems. We mainly buy the Denali Dinner, however when we bought our three month old husky the BB puppy food she had continuously loose stools. We keep having to feed her rice to get her back on track. The puppy line of Blue Buffalo is rough on the digestive system. We're considering switching brands so that our puppy doesn't have to deal with the bouts of diarrhea anymore.

I was appalled when I found this site! I was looking to lodge a complaint against Blue Buffalo when I found it. I am so glad I did. I have noticed my dog lethargic after switching to this brand can food (limited ingredient) and have even worse news about their dental bones. I had not put 2 and 2 together and now will take my dog off of everything "Blue"!! My complaint was because I just got off the phone with "customer service" and was told to go to the store to get credit when I learned that their treats "health bars" which state on the top of the FRONT of the bag "NO CHICKEN/POULTRY BY PRODUCT MEALS, NO CORN, WHEAT OR SOY, NO ARTIFICIAL PRESERVATIVES, NO ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS'' and found out too late, that listed in the ingredients in small print on the BACK of the bag is CHICKEN MEAL.
My dog is allergic to chicken, and silly me, I believed there was no CHICKEN in the "apple and yogurt" treats (as many companies use cheap chicken as fillers in their treats). Of course it was explained to me that the point was it was not chicken "by-products". This is serious mislabeling and not only stupid, but dangerous. I expected more than "go back to where you bought it, not for a refund, but for an exchange". I left my number and was told not to expect a call back. I said "no problem, if I don't get a call back, I will lodge a formal complaint against the company for misleading the public about its ingredients." Then I come here and realized how much issue my dog has had with this company's food products.
I recently purchased their dental bones, and my dog was never so sick. He threw up and had AWFUL diarrhea for 4 days. Between what I have seen here, my experience with the canned food (I don't want to think about what garbage is in there now), the mis-labeled treats, the dental bones from Hell, and the lack of customer support, I join others in hoping this company is SHUT DOWN FOR GOOD. Thank you for listening. I joined this site just to write this review, and appreciate others taking the time to help dog lovers like me.

My beloved dog is slowly dying due to this food and we do not know what to do. We started feeding him Blue Buffalo and he started acting weird, very lethargic, panting, excessive water drinking and many more symptoms. So we took him to get a blood test and found out that his CATALYST DX LEVELS ARE AT 3,492 which is super high and the doctor suggested that our dog may not make it through the weekend. Now he is at the vet and they are flushing his kidneys in hopes of saving our dog. Please do not feed your dogs this crap. It will kill them. It has a very high toxicity levels.
If my dog dies due to this we will take class action against them because what they are doing is very disgusting. My dogs toxicity levels would only get bad when we fed him this food same with our other dog. Get your dog tested if you are feeding them blue buffalo. They could not be showing very ill signs but with continuation of this food they can well be on their way to death. PLEASE GET THEM TESTED.

Then he started limping. Then the bone cancer diagnosis that only affects 10,000 dogs/year and 95% large dogs. (My dog was in the 500 dogs/yr category.) I looked online to see if this dog food is known to cause osteosarcoma, and I see that they just donated $6 million to study it. I also saw other food health issues. Knowing no data was collected for this disease with my dog, I wanted it here, in case someone else has a dog on the gluten free foods and develops osteosarcoma.

Do Not Feed Your Dog Chicken & Brown Rice Life Protection. I fed this food to my 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier for about 6 months. Pit bulls are prone to skin infections and mine was no exception. I researched the best food to feed him but he always had a rash on his belly. I decided to give this food a try based on the ingredient list. His skin did not clear up and he began constantly licking his paws. I took him to the vet for the usual round of antibiotics and the vet indicated he had seasonal (winter) allergies.
Shortly after the last skin flare up, which never completely healed, he started peeing blood in the snow. Back to the vet for a bladder infection and more antibiotics. He stopped peeing blood after a few days on the medicine but started having runny diarrhea, which I assumed was from the medication. He finished his meds for the bladder infection but the runny poop did not stop. He started pooping in the house, 3 - 4 times during the day, 2 - 3 times in the middle of the night, and constantly had to go outside. Then he started pooping blood. On a short walk, he pooped 9 times, all liquid, mostly blood. Jesus, how much is a vet bill to treat bloody poop?? It doesn't matter because I can't afford it anyway.
I had enough of cleaning poop stains out of my carpet so I decided to stop giving him this food. I started feeding him boiled chicken breast, brown rice, peas & carrots with coconut oil. Within a day or two, his skin cleared up, better than ever, and his poop returned to normal (no blood), saving me what I assume to be hundreds of dollars in vet bills. From here on out, I will only feed him food that I prepare myself. My dog begs for his food now, instead of procrastinating eating because commercial dog food is pure garbage. I love my dog too much and I am too poor to take a chance on another dog food that makes him sick.

Two weeks ago, I bought a couple of cans of the chicken and trout as described above (CT). My cats liked it. Those cans were from PetSmart. Last week, I bought four cans from Petco... and decided I would continue to get it, as it gave my cats variety in their meals. They ate from the new batch on Thursday morning, and by nighttime, I had three cats vomiting, with diarrhea, and in distress. One of them already is severely compromised because of Polycythemia, a rare blood disorder in cats. On Friday, another began the same symptoms. I rushed four cats to my vet who put them on an anti-emetic and anti-diarrheal medications.
One of my cats, a calico, had tasted the food but declined to eat it. She is picky, so I made nothing of it. She remained okay. I have a sixth cat, who, as an abused kitten, does not mix with my other five. This cat is now three years old but is quartered in one part of the house. She has no contact with the other five. She had eaten some of the CT on Saturday morning. At that time I had not thought of food poisoning. However, on Sunday, she began showing signs of being sick as well. Since she is isolated from the rest of my cats, it dawned on me that food poisoning was a consideration.
I contacted Blue Buffalo, identified the food and on the remaining unopened can, the numbers for QC, and requested a return call. There are still cans of this food at the Petco at Festival at Riva store in Annapolis, MD. I have called twice, without hearing from them. I am now quite sure, after reviewing this with my vet, that the batch is defective and has caused my cats to be severely ill. They are now beginning to recover, but four days of vomiting and diarrhea have taken a toll, especially on my cat who has Polycythemia and needs constant blood work to live. I don't want this to happen to anyone else, and Blue Buffalo has got to do respond and take appropriate action to remove this batch from being bought.

I had two cats. They were both older, and I have always babied them. My husband and I decided about three weeks ago that we would switch their food to Blue Buffalo because the company touted that it was natural and healthy. I wanted to make sure, as they are aging, that they had the best nutrition to keep them healthy. We diligently mixed the old food with the new according to the instructions on the package.
My male cat within a few days refused to eat it. I took him to the vet because he was refusing to eat and had what I thought was a seizure. The vet said it could have been his heart because she detected a murmur. We took him home but he refused to eat the food. My female cat continued to eat it. She has always been an odd cat. Little changes in the home would upset her. With my male having been sick, we thought her extra neediness was because she was upset. She was still wandering the house, meowing, she would crawl up in bed to cuddle. Last night, we began searching for her because she had not come out to greet us when we got home. We found her in her favorite spot, dead. My male cat is recovering since has refused to eat the food, but we had a scare with him vomiting blood and becoming very lethargic.
The only new or different thing in our home was this food. Both of my cats were very healthy with no health concerns at all until we brought this product into our home. I hadn't heard anything negative about the food/company. Other brands I had seen reports of recalls and issues to be aware of. If I had known, I would never have fed my cats this crap. I have not found a single response from this company stating that there was a known problem or that there was any action to correct issues with their product. But I have found hundreds of accounts of pet owners such as myself going through hell after they began feeding their pets this food. Many I read had the same symptoms as my two. It was just too much of a coincidence to deny that it was the food that made them sick. I will never again buy this brand, and I will recommend to everyone I know who have pets not to buy their product either.

He would not eat or drink and didn't even want to play. After 2 days I was very concerned, when I brought him to the vet and after the initial bloodwork was told of the results. The vet asked if I changed anything and told him. He then told me that this dog food was the worst, very high levels of fat and said it was not FDA approved. I have read other articles of the same thing happening. How can we stop this from happening again. First I think Blue Wilderness should pay for my vet bill, and second stop this company from selling pet food once and for all. Can't be a coincident that it is happening to so many dogs.

Vet believes Blue Buffalo killed my dog. I have always cherished my dogs and cats. They are family, they are my heart and I have lost my share of babies through passing by natural causes. This is not about a natural cause. I am so saddened about what I heard from my Vet today. This past Christmas eve, I noticed that my sweet Bella, a beautiful rescued chi, was becoming lethargic, not as happy to see me when I came home. She was always the first one to the door when I got home. I took her with me shopping for the day and found that all she did was sleep in her pouch, which I wear around my neck. She did want water, but didn't seem to be hungry, even for her special chicken breast with rice. By Christmas morning, I was even more concerned. She just wasn't looking well. I had been up all night with her. She slept, I watched her.
Since Christmas was on Sunday, first thing Monday morning, off to our amazing Vet we went. I thought maybe she had a virus. This past couple days were the only time that she had shown any signs that she may be ill. As I sat watching a much more serious look on my Vet's face than usual, my heart began to pound. He turned to me and said, "Kathie, we need to run some tests." Bella had ulcers in her mouth and down her throat, which is a sign of kidney failure.
I was afraid, but hopeful. This was the first time she showed sign that she was ill. If it was just beginning, a diet change and some meds would be in order for the rest of her life. I could handle that. Dr. ** took blood tests and kept her, giving her fluids as she was dehydrated. Soon I got the call, my heart, my princess, Bella, was in acute, end-stage kidney failure. Her levels were 100x what they should be. She had just had her yearly exam within the past 2 months with no signs of any ill health.
My heart began to break, but thankfully my Vet want going to give up just yet. For the next 4 days, my baby would be on fluids and meds, to be rechecked at the end of the week. On Thursday, I went to pick her up for the night and the Dr wanted to talk to me. Bella's levels remained high, with only minor reductions. She would not be long in my life and was suffering. I made the decision to take her home and return the next day to let her go. I spent every minute with her laying on my chest, crying. She knew that I was sad. At least that is what I believe. At some point in the night, she got up to go potty and ate some. I was overjoyed. In the morning, I called my Vet. They allowed me to give fluids and meds at home. I prayed that God would not take her and that her eating was my sign that she would recover.
Sadly, 2 nights later, New Years Eve, I spent my last 2 hours, holding her, in her pjs and warm blankets, staring into my beautiful girls eyes. I told her that I would be okay, knowing that it would be a very long time before I was. I wanted her to rest, no more pain, no more confusion for my love. She passed that morning at 4:31 am. My Vet explained she may have had it longer than we knew, that she may be older than we knew, after all, she was a rescue. I accepted that.
Today, I had a chance to thank the owner of the clinic, a Vet with well over 40 years experience. I explained about the amazing treatment that I received from the staff and the younger doctors. He thanked me, but felt I needed to know that kidney failure that is acute, like Bella's, where she passed within 7 days from seeing any symptoms to passing, comes from poisoning, most likely from her food. My heart sank. I thought that I was buying the best. Today I've found that my baby wasn't then only one. Blue Buffalo appears to be responsible for the death or suffering of many, many other pets. This makes me both sad and angry. I am not accepting this as okay. I will do all that I can to stop another Furbabies family from the unbearable pain of a sudden passing of their loved ones because of toxic dog food. Please consider my story and watch your animal if they are eating Blue Buffalo!

He shivers, diarrhea, poops and pees in the house even in front of me, something he has never done before. He even goes into labored breathing. Had him in the E.R. twice in the past 3 weeks and they give him a sedative, oxygen and send him home. I have stopped the Blue Buffalo dog food as of yesterday. Now there are NO life source bits in this dog food. Last 2 bags I purchased had NO life source bits. AAFCO gives their approval based on the INGREDIENTS contained within dog foods. Sick Rottweiler - 110 lbs, 6.5 years old. Food: Blue Buffalo dry and wet food. Started Dog on new, grain free diet using Blue Buffalo's Blue, Turkey and Potato for allergens and their dry food Chicken formula in the blue bag. Dog liked the food. No issues other than excessive urination was noted. Later switched to Homestyle Recipe Chicken Dinner with Garden Vegetables, blue can along with the same dry food but, new lot. Switched to all dry - dog refused to eat. Switched to just wet, dog became increasingly worse until refusing to eat for days on end.
Immediately, the dog became sick with vomiting, foul gas, foul breath, bloating, gagging, lethargy, eyes became cloudy and walked in circles pacing for hours due to being sick. Trip to vets for bloodwork (thinking Lymphoma - cloudy eyes). Bloodwork showed no cancer. Vet stated however, kidney values were out in no mans land and didn't have explanation. Did say that key to health is through diet. This ties into excessive urination and constant need for water - we're talking two gallons of water per day. I've got it logged in my book. Water consumption went up a factor of 2X. Typically, he drinks <1 gallon per day to 1 gallon per day in the winter.
Another week on same food led to worsening condition with a nasty hot spot on his leg and incessant licking of his mouth, excessive salivation, foamy mouth etc. He was whimpering and yelping at times and having a hard time going potty. I will assume stomach pains was the reason and also the reason for the dog not eating for days at a time. We're talking two to three days at a time that the animal refused to eat. He only ate after taking a long break thus, led me to reason that his food source was the root problem. Out of desperation, I went online to do a simple search on what he was eating. I came across this site and Dog Food Advisor. Both featured tons of complaints as stated herein this website.
I removed all blue buffalo products from his diet and made him home cooked Turkey, Potato, Carrot and Brown Rice. All organic, HMO and GMO free. This is the fourth day so far that he has been off the Blue Buffalo food 100%. My dog is no longer vomiting, no longer suffering with foul gas, bloating, the hot spot is going away / he's no longer licking it like mad, his eyes cleared up 100%, he is trotting again vs. being collapsed on the lawn out in the rain sick, and, he's got his appetite back and is eating normally again without issues. Bowel movements are returning to normal, frequency of urination is calming down. He's still not 100% at this time. Two to three weeks on that toxic food, it's still in his system. This isn't just food poisoning. It's most likely metal toxins (Aluminum) or some chemical toxin that's built up in his system. That remains unknown at this time. I will continue to monitor his condition and report back.

I have been in contact with 4 vets whom all have told me the food is all hype. This dog is now off the product also. Not sure if this review will go through since my computer dropped on creating account. Tried several, different, grain-free BB/BW dry dog foods: Natural Evolutionary Diet -- duck, salmon, bison. Also Rocky Mountain Recipe: with bison, rabbit, red meat. Noticed my male Rottweiler became lethargic, listless, cried a little when trying to lie down. At night he roamed like he was seeing ghosts or something. He would eat the food with enthusiasm. His bowels looked OK at first. Then he seemed to have trouble making a number 2 movement. Seemed he was in a bit of pain. He would go outside and did not take an interest in anything. He would not play. Basically, he moved like an old man.
My female Rottweiler who was always athletic started to slow down as well. Neither were acting right. I also had the cat on BB/BW. Cat started to slow down and started having problems with peeing. Hardly nothing would come out. I did not think that all could be suffering from something in the food. I just thought an illness was plaguing each one. When I started paying more attention, I realized the problems all were having could be the food. I had gone through several bags of this product thinking this was supposed to be a good food.
Well, when I finally woke up to what was going on, I immediately stopped all the BB/BW foods. I started feeding them a food that so far has never been recalled. I noticed immediate changes in each animal. It took several weeks of the new food to go through their system, but with each day there was great improvement. So, my question is: what the hell is in Blue Buffalo/Blue Wilderness food that almost shut down my animals' systems? I would take precaution for anybody who uses this food to watch their animals and with the first sign of problems immediately get them off it.

Obviously, I wasn't notified because I had a greater stake in the claim process.
That being said, I didn't piece the entire scenario together that this food caused Hyperthyroidism, Liver Cancer and Asthma in 3 of my cats. ** It's a shame that greedy, self indulgent individuals not only get to hide behind a Class Action Lawsuit and conduct business as usual, but to use household pets who are family members to most of us to make money and kill innocent animals who don't have a voice or a choice of what they are given to eat.

We have 3 dogs. One was having a food allergy issue with our old dog food. So, we heard the commercials claiming how healthy Blue Buffalo was for your dogs and we switched even though it cost close to 3x the amount of the old dog food. We figured if it worked then the money was worth it. Within 3 bags we realized that the one dog that was already having issues had gotten so much worse, he developed severe hot spots on his chest, feet and face. He was lethargic and anti-social. He also seemed to avoid eating. The other dog that was previously not having any problems became lethargic, developed a hot spot and was always itchy. He also, this is what really scared me, was having trouble peeing. The third dog looked marvelous but we realized she was putting on too much weight too quickly.
Finally frustrated and scared I did some research on Blue Buffalo. All three dogs exhibited different reactions but those reactions can be found among the reports listed. We immediately took all the dogs off of the dog food and started giving them people food. Within 3 days there was a HUGE difference in all 3 dogs. No more lethargy, hair is growing back on the hot spots, and no trouble using the bathroom. Please do not even consider purchasing this poison! I will be filing complaints with the BBB, my politicians, and the FDA or whoever handles these things. I can't believe I was paying 65 dollars a bag for POISON!!! Buyer beware!

Upon deciding to change our Golden Retriever's dog food, we selected Blue Buffalo Freedom Beef dog food. We started with a very small amount mixed in with his regular dog food. That night our dog became extremely agitated and started pacing the room with very foul smelling gas. We could hear his stomach gurgling and churning and he started making a strange noise from his mouth. We immediately went outside with him, and he began to vomit. During the night he again became sick and had diarrhea all over our house. We found him under the Christmas tree - hiding and ashamed. We immediately started him on a rice and chicken diet for the next two days and he returned to good health. We thought it might be the new food, but couldn't believe such a small amount could make him so sick. On the third day we tried 1/8 cup with 1 cup of his regular food.
We began to smell the foul smelling gas, heard the rumbling and grumbling in his stomach and immediately took him outside, where again he had loose diarrhea. We returned to the rice and chicken diet for the next day and started him back on his old dog food the second day. He seems to be feeling much better and I type this review. Lesson learned - NEVER again will we buy this brand of dog food! We have a wonderful program here in our city where the Meals on Wheels delivers food to the housebound Senior Citizens and also delivers dog food to the house if the housebound senior has a dog. A couple of years ago I was looking for a different cat food to feed my 3 cats as the one I was using was being discontinued. I decided to try Blue Menu based on their TV ads. It sounded like the perfect food. Well, two of my cats didn't like it but the third loved it and couldn't seem to get enough of it. I kept a separate dish of food for the other two hoping I could convince them to eat Blue Menu eventually too. Mocha, the cat that loved it, within a short period of time, about 3 weeks, started having health issues. He became lethargic, his coat became dry and lackluster and his eyes dull, he started losing weight and then he started to have seizures. A visit to the vet and blood tests showed nothing abnormal and the vet told me to keep a journal and closely monitor him.
I then began to realize that this all started when I changed his food to Blue Menu so I immediately stopped feeding it just in case. It was the only thing I could think of that was different for him. Once I stopped the food he stopped throwing up and did not have any more seizures. It was a long slow haul, in fact it took months, but he gradually gained back his weight, got the shine back in his coat and a brighter look in his eye. I firmly believe that had I continued on with that food he would have been dead within two weeks. He was 15 at the time and is 17 now and a healthy boy. I was fortunate at the time that my other two refused to eat the food. I have read that the Blue Buffalo company doesn't even test their products. It infuriates me when I see their ads on TV and consumers are bombarded with them. Please do not feed your animals any of their products. It may not affect them the way it did mine but it isn't worth the risk.

This food was all my dog's littermate ate. He's obese which is sad because they are a little over a year old. Since Blue Buffalo was on sale and my dog is a picky eater I figured she would like it because her brother just chows it down. She actually did like it BUT after a few days there was a smell in my house. I thought my dog had pooped in the house. It turned out that she was passing gas that smelled horrible. I asked my buddy about her brother and he said he changed food because of it. I thought maybe this will pass. I was wrong. My dog's stools began to get looser to the point I started to get really worried. Then she had a bout of diarrhea. She also started scratching herself silly, something she never did before eating Blue Buffalo.
I took the food back to the pet store, switched her back to her previous food and no problems. With all of the advertising that Blue Buffalo does you think they could make decent food. I do not consider a dog food that causes a dog to pass gas and has poop so loose that you can't pick it up to be acceptable. Plus the large volume of her stools suggested LOTS of fillers. For a expensive dog food I find this totally unacceptable. BTW her previous and everyday food is not related to Purina in any way so that debunks that conspiracy. She is back to her normal self, I received a full refund from the pet store so I am not out anything. The only thing that bothers me is I put my dog through a rough time feeding an overhyped and overadvertised food. Whenever I see the Blue commercials I think "feed your dog the OTHER food". You will avoid problems.

Blue Buffalo No Grain Large Breed Dry Adult Food. The product seems to be great for maintaining my dog's weight. She has a beautiful coat of hair, very energetic and seemingly healthy. The only downside to using Blue Buffalo is that my dog is displaying some sort of food allergy that causes her to itch. The vets I have taken her to have no idea what it is and nor do I, but it is worse on other dogs foods. She gets really bad diarrhea and the itching.

We rescued two puppies from Spain and switched them to Blue Buffalo because we felt it was a better quality and got swindled by the review sites more than likely being paid to review them so well. Please, choose a better food. Soon after our second puppy arrived is when we switched their food and then got blood work done about a week later. The doctor said his kidneys were failing and that we needed to switch him to a food with less protein. It may have just been that he has health issues, but then 3 days ago our first puppy got terribly sick. She was hardly drinking, felt incredibly hot, wouldn't eat, completely lethargic. So we waited till morning and took her to the vet. They gave her antibiotics and she seemed to be getting better. Then we fed her the BB and she went right back into being sick only worse this time with a fever of 105.4. For those who don't know, 106 is when permanent organ damage can be done (assuming they live).
So she has been at the vet hooked up to an IV and luckily we got the call that her fever is subsiding and hopefully we can pick her up tomorrow. But I cannot stress enough how scared we were that she might pass. After reading (actual) horrible reviews, I am completely disgusted BB could get away with still pushing their product. Of course it will not affect every dog adversely, but if you love your best friend and want to avoid terribly heartbreaking vet visits please consider a different brand.

WOW! What a horrible experience my two dogs death was. Both my two dogs just died after eating Blue Buffalo Dry Dog Food. We spent so much money trying to save them, but they passed away. My dogs death was painful for them to say the least, as well as painful for myself and my wife. What my dogs went through after eating Blue Buffalo Dry Dog food, were massive seizures. They lost all mobility, and panting, vomiting, severe stomach pain and more.
What we are going through doesn't compare what the two girls went through. But, I cry all the time and my wife cant quit crying. These two dogs were our life, and the way and manner of which they died is unacceptable. I have read so many reviews and talked to so many people in the last weeks of many dogs sicken or dying after eating Blue Buffalo Dry Dog Food. I would of never fed this dog food to my dog if I had even known there was a possibility of any type of sicken or death. We now are not celebrating the holidays for there is nothing to celebrate! We didn't realize, we'd accidentally switched from our regular Blue Buffalo cat food to the company's indoor cat formula. Suddenly, our three year old cat started acting funny. He was short tempered for a few weeks, but nothing totally out of character. We began to suspect he had urinary crystals and went to town to purchase new food. Shortly after we came home, we realized he was completely blocked, panting, yowling in pain. I wish I'd checked the reviews before. They aren't good. They're known liars and what's in the label isn't what's in the bag. He was so young and seemed perfectly healthy and very strong, not overweight. There was no loss or change of appetite, no movement or posture changes, no trouble with the stairs or jumping up into my bed. He just kept going in the box on Sunday, and he clearly couldn't go. Now, he's gone.

We have a 11 1/2 yr old Britney and lost our 15 yr old Britney two months ago. So we got our 8 week old Australian Shepherd 10 days ago from a great breeder. The breeder's daughter who is a vet tech, gave us puppy food they used and when we ran out I went to Fleet Farm but they did not have the puppy from that brand so I bought the regular adult food since our adult dog was running out of her food which was BB. This is actually important. So since we had used BB before for our adult dogs without any issues, I got the puppy food. Like the other comments below I'm beside myself for anger because my puppy is now in the pet hospital fighting for her little 9 week old life and I'm convinced it was the BB puppy food. It was exactly like what the lady with the cats said.
Our puppy didn't want to eat the food and I thought it was because she was so busy trying to get to our older dog's bowl - but she never refused to eat the other food. So I put a little flavoring on the food (beef gravy I made from a roast - very little). She ate a couple bites and wanted out of her area. I thought - again, being a puppy and wanting to play. She finally ate it and after three meals of that food she vomited, drooling from the mouth and I rushed her to our vet. The vet said she must have eaten something rotten. I had her on a leash and never saw her eat anything but she did have leaves in her month so I thought we missed something.
Now after reading the comments - all the people who had puppies we had EXACTLY the same experience! I'm so mad at myself because we thought BB was good and we read a lot of reviews before we ever gave our dogs the food. However, we lost our male Britney on October 5, 2016 and his last day was EXACTLY like one comment about the dog looking dizzy, vomiting, and diarrhea. We just assumed it was his time because he did have congested heart issues, but two weeks prior to his death, he was really in good health the dr said, even with the heart issues, but we had just gotten a bag of BB dry food two weeks prior.
Our female Britney was showing some signs too with recent vomiting, but we finally ran out of BB adult food. We actually have her on the original brand (Natures something - it has a barn on the front - NOT Science Diet) that was given to us by the puppies breeder and she seems like she back to normal. As for the puppy, we find out today if she is going to be OK. My husband finally found that BB is LYING about its ingredients and their whole brand is created and FAKE and owned by Wall Street conglomerate and created by a successful Wall Street ad man! Isn't there a lawyer out here who loves dogs will sue the crap out of BB? I know Purina sued them but I don't trust Purina either.

So far the food hasn't affected my 5 year old beagle but I stopped feeding it to her last night after my 11 year old got sick. I've seen a lot of really bad reviews claiming Blue Buffalo food made their animals sick. I find it funny that most of these bad reviews popped up after Purina started a lawsuit against them. I've been feed my cat Blue Buffalo brand food for since I got him at 4 months old. He's now 3 years old, still eating BB Indoor formula and perfectly healthy. I also feed my 7 month old corgi and 1 month old kitten rescue Blue Buffalo puppy and kitten brand food respectively. Neither of them have fallen ill at all either. In fact the kitten is more healthy than when I got her.
BB's wet food is the only kind my older cat will eat (wet food is very important for a cat's diet). He will literally starve before eating any other brand of wet food. In short, I recommend BB brand food to everyone I know with pets and will feed my animals nothing else. My roommates feed their cats a different brand of food and their cats try to eat my cats food before even going near theirs and they eat far more food than mine do (I suspect because the brand they use is less filling). Two weeks ago, my formerly very healthy, extremely active dog (80-lb Shepherd/Retriever mix) became seriously ill -- he had trouble standing, eyes were glassy, drank ridiculous amounts of water, and quit eating. Took him to the vet, had X-rays and blood tests. X-rays looked ok, but blood tests indicated what looked like advanced liver disease and kidney disease. I told the vet, "Two days ago, he was on a 4-mi run with me! He was fine." She asked about food and I said I feed him Merrick and have never had a problem. (More on that shortly.) She said to start him on a bland diet (chicken & rice) and get him to the emergency vet the next day for an ultrasound. Things didn't look good, though.
There was an issue at the emergency vet & it turned out they couldn't do an ultrasound until two days later. For two days, he just ate chicken. At the Emergency vet, they did the ultrasound (looked good) and re-checked his blood -- his liver function had almost returned to normal! I was given a prescription for a liver protectant and told to keep him on a bland diet for a couple more days. She said he must have eaten something toxic -- maybe a mushroom in the yard.
I could not believe how quickly he returned to normal after being convinced he wouldn't make it through the weekend. He was his usual goofy, rambunctious self. After a week of the bland diet, I started mixing in dry food again. After two days, he started showing the same symptoms -- lethargy, excessive drinking, no appetite, and then he peed in the house. He hasn't done that for nine years! (He's 9 1/2.)
I thought, "I wonder if Merrick had a bad batch. I'll check which flavor and Google it." When I checked the bag, I noticed I'd accidentally purchased a bag of Blue Buffalo. I think it must have been right next to Merrick on the shelf and I didn't notice. This is just too much of a coincidence. Also, I understand that sudden switching of foods can be hard on a dog, but it should cause near liver failure! I understand gas, upset stomach, but my dog almost died. I'm hoping he rebounds as quickly after this second exposure as he did the first time. Something is really wrong with at least some bags of this brand of food.

My 5 month old female kitten started urinating outside the litter box and frequently. I noticed that it was pink tinged, so I suspected at UTI, so I took her to the vet right away. The vet asked if I was feeding her Blue Buffalo, and I am! I have had her on Blue Buffalo kitten food ever since I got her at 8 weeks of age. The vet said they have seen lots of crystal formations in the urine and UTIs in kittens on Blue Buffalo, which is strange, because these issues are not supposed to happen in a cat so young.
So now after the emergency visit with antibiotics $150, and now doing a renal and bladder sonogram to see if crystals have formed or worse, kidney stones, which will require surgery, I'm out $800 and she may need surgery after that! I think Blue Buffalo should pay for this medical incident, since it was caused by the food. Now she will be on a special kidney diet for life, and I don't know if she can get out of the habit of urinating a little bit at a time, all over. This company should pay its customers for the damage it's caused and then shut down.

We switched to BB chicken and rice life protection small breed puppy a few days after we brought the first one home. She loved it, ate it happily and we noticed her urine was bright yellow and her stools had mucous but still hard. When we brought the boy home, he loved it too, ate it with vigor. It wasn't until we took them to get groomed that we heard about the past recalls. We switched them after more research but they didn't like the food we put them on so back to BB as that was better than nothing because they refused to eat.
A few weeks ago our girl started dry heaving, liquid poop with mucous, and she wasn't our vivacious girl. We took her to the vet and he thought it was pancreatitis or an infection. She had to stay overnight to get iv liquids, came home with Anti-nausea meds, antibiotics, heartburn medication and was told to either feed her vet wet food or plain boiled chicken and rice with the probiotics sprinkled in. We believed it was an infection until we switched both to the wet and dry vet food. Normally we would transition but we took them off BB immediately. Not only is our girl vivacious again, their urine is a nice pale yellow, and our boy's poop's been solid. They haven't played this hard since they fought for dominance.
Please get your fur babies off this food before they get sick or worse die. We talked to a rep of another dog food company and they told us that yes BB has chicken as the first ingredient but they usually use wet chicken which weighs more. Blue Buffalo was also sued awhile back for not using the ingredients they promised. We thought we were giving our babies the best and we almost killed them.

The Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken is the only dog food brand that we have used for our dogs (2 mini Australian Shepherds aged 2 and 3). They both seem to have reoccurring loose stools and diarrhea. The 3 year old seems to suffer from these more frequently and has also been experiencing constipation issues as of late of which I am very concerned. We have tried abstaining them from the natural biscuit treats we use (different brand) but the above mentioned problems have persisted. I can only assume that it is the food that is the problem.
I cannot pinpoint what the exact problem with Blue Buffalo would be - potential problems could be: overseas suppliers, contamination, mold, quality of ingredients etc. Additionally, I have read similar reviews from users of the Blue Buffalo brand and their dogs have also experienced diarrhea, vomiting, and other negative symptoms, including death. This is too scary of a risk for me to take with my dogs which I value above everything else.
With that being said, I am seeking to discontinue use of this product immediately. Furthermore, about 1 year ago our 3 year old had experienced blood in loose stool. Our veterinarian prescribed a probiotic along with an antibiotic; thankfully, the issue cleared up in regards to the blood anyway. I chalked this up to him having a "sensitive stomach" or IBS. But after further research, I am almost certain that he does not even have a “sensitive stomach.” It is the Blue Buffalo food we are feeding him that is causing all of these problems.
This food should be taken off the market immediately. It has been sensationalized so heavily in the media and other places that people fell into the trap of believing it to be the best dog food on the market which it is most certainly not, I am disgusted that I happened to be one of the people fooled. DO NOT feed your pets this brand of food/treats/anything they produce. While your dog may initially seem to thrive on the food - each new batch is different and carries a risk of causing serious health problems.

My two young shelties are healthy dogs. Virtually never thrown up. After feeding them Blue Buffalo Health Bars they both began vomiting yellow foam the next day. My male dog also began having soft stools. Not sure about what made them sick, I kept giving them the biscuits. The vomiting continued. The flavors I fed them were banana/yogurt and apple/yogurt. Both dogs are fine but need to be monitored.

I also have a Yorkie that has been periodically having mucus stools and skipping meals. Most recently started 'prayer position' and foamy vomiting. After blood work and X-rays to rule out bowel obstruction, she's diagnosed with pancreatitis. I don't know if it's the food that caused this, but after their history, and BB causing diarrhea in my uncle's dog, and other questionable suspected problems I find online, I'm done with any BB product.

I've been reading all of the negative reviews about Blue Buffalo dog food and felt the need to relate our very positive review. We have two mixed black labs that we've had since they were puppies; they are now 7 years old and have been eating Blue since not long after we got them. They were originally on another dog food and one of our girls started losing hair and scratching herself all the time.
Blue was recommended to us by a friend and within 2 weeks the puppy that was scratching and losing hair was like a new dog. Both of their black coats became very shiny and they've been healthy ever since. We recently tried switching to a less expensive dog food only to see our girl's coats become dull and their skin flakey, not to mention them having diarrhea. We quickly switched back to Blue and once again the girls are doing great! We also have a 12 year old Beagle who has now been eating Blue since we inherited her 4 years ago and she, also, is going great on Blue.
It saddens me to hear others talk about how bad Blue has been for their pets. Perhaps the food is to blame but there are others of us who like how it keeps our pets healthy. I guess every dog/cat is different and each has their own needs. Fortunately, our girls need and like Blue... it's just our bank account that suffers from feeding them Blue because it is not cheap!

I am not a review writer. That being said I change to Blue Buffalo thinking it would be healthy for my cat. Within 2 weeks my very healthy cat that in 6 years has had only one ear infection for any kind of illness started throwing up and not eating, drinking or going to the bathroom. They have ran every single test on her and have done x-rays to make sure there's no blockages. There is nothing wrong with this cat except like my vet said most likely the food that I switched her to. Please, please, please it hasn't even been 2 weeks and this is what happened to my cat. I couldn't even imagine if she was on it for a prolonged period! I don't understand how they are still selling the crap except money can do a lot of things. I truly believe this food is killing family pets.

My dog just turned 1 year old in July and has been back and forth to the veterinarian with overnight stays for the past month. Diarrhea, throwing up, scratching, skin rash on her tummy, ears and between her toes, disoriented and hiding in corners. After over $2,000 in vet bills, I now know the problem from reading this website and Dog Food Advisor website.
Every time I took her to the vet and she was put on a special diet food, fluid drips for dehydration, med drips and many different oral meds, she would get better. Then I would give her the BB when she was well and what do you know, sick, sick, sick and back to the vet. I never imagined it was the food I was feeding her. I feel so bad for her and hope she makes a full recovery after our trip to the vet again this past week. What a relief to finally know what was causing all of this. I would like to file a claim for reimbursement from the BB company for her vet bills. Can anyone give me direction on how to do this?

My dachshund first got sick in February 2016 suffering from severe vomiting and diarrhea with blood in his stool. Vet visit and testing showed that his intestines were just torn up so we started antibiotics and special medical food. Symptoms went away and he started doing better but still would shy away from his food and was disinterested. His food was BLUE BUFFALO WILDERNESS. 3 months go by and during this time he would have firm stool or soft... very soft stool. By mid-May he was lethargic, very sad eyes and was never excited to eat... It was starting again. By June 1st he was vomiting, having lots of mucus and blood in his stool and a fever. Back to the Vet. Another $250 later and the same treatment as February but this time the Vet tells me I got him there just in time and that his intestines are all torn up but we're didn't understand why. But we're now considering that the food he has been eating is a possible problem.
He started feeling better after a week and we returned to feeding him his food BLUE BUFFALO WILDERNESS... A very expensive food. On June 28th I found vomit with grass and bloody mucus in it and he walked away from his food that morning... Sad eyes and ears hanging low... He didn't feel good again. Four hours later when I return home, I found 3 room in my house having piles of RED bloody diarrhea that had the foulest odor. This blood was straight blood in areas so we rushed him to the emergency vet clinic and after another $300 and the same treatment the emergency room vet asked me what food I was feeding him and I told him the Blue Buffalo Wilderness and he immediately said "Throw it out. It is junk and making him sick." He also told me that he had been seeing more and more of these cases lately.
I almost lost my beautiful sweet dog but he is starting to look better today so I am hopeful he will make a full recovery but the vets are concerned about the damage to the pancreas. We are still on medical food but I have done a tremendous amount of research and I will be feeding him Wellness Core from now on. I emailed the company but have not received a response yet... How do we get a class action suit gong against the makers of Blue Buffalo? As you can read all of these horror stories, something needs to happen to this company.
People are out a lot of money. The health of all of our precious friends had been unnecessarily compromised and yet worse, some have lost the dear pets. We need to get the word out or stand in front of pet stores with signs against Blue Buffalo food and possibly attract the media by doing so. This company had just settled their first class action suit and now this is happening to our pets due to their product. We need to stop them from doing business so I hope there is someone reading this who knows how to get it going. Tell everyone you can: DO NOT FEED YOUR DOG BLUE BUFFALO.

After several visits to our vet, on and off chicken and rice diet, a lot of $$ for the vet visits and prescribed medications, we tried a switch in food. I have 2 chocolate Labs. About 2 years ago we noticed the dogs seemed bored with their food and weren't eating as much as they should have been. At first we started mixing pouched chicken in their food to entice them. That worked but then they wanted the chicken all the time. (spoiled dogs). We decided to try changing dog food. Started them on Blue Buffalo. Worst thing we could have done. The female had the runs and the male lost nearly all his fur within 3 weeks and had a rash on his underbelly. We could not figure out what was wrong at first.
Took the 2 of them to the vet. He told us he thought it was an allergic reaction and asked if we changed anything in their diet. The male lost approximately 60-70% of his fur. We put them back on Fromm and within a few weeks his fur was coming back and the rash was gone. Blue Buffalo is junk. Started reading complaints online and there are a ton of them. I can see why. Both Labs now have gorgeous coats and people always comment on how good their fur looks. DON'T BUY BLUE BUFFALO! You may regret it forever when you lose your best friend.

Specifically this week, every time he ate the Blue Wilderness Salmon Recipe canned food he would get sick afterward. After several times of this happening, he didn't want to eat it anymore.
I opened a different can, and he was o.k. Then had him try the salmon one more time, and a few minutes after eating he got sick again. His stools for about a month now have been loose on and off. I had my Blue Heeler/Australia Shepherd puppy on Blue Buffalo Grain-free Puppy Wilderness edition a week after I got her. The breeder had her on Royal Canin puppy edition, I did not like the ingredients on the back, chicken by-product, blah blah. After the switch, everything was still well, I just did not support the previous brand and believe there were plenty of higher quality options in the market.
My dog was on BB for a few months now, no problems. I stumbled upon ConsumerAffairs.com and found out Blue Buffalo only had 1.8 stars/based on 288 ratings - I was shocked that Blue Buffalo had such a low rating! I have sat for a couple hours on this site and have gone through a good amount of reviews good and bad. I was ashamed and embarrassed that BB has had so many recalls, their history in 2015 and in addition, the fact that they are Purina. But my trust was not lost, no harm was ever done to my dog so I will not resent them simply because others do. I was just extremely shocked from a customer to manufacturer stand point of view.
So I made the switch to a 5 star company, Orijen. I made the switch smoothly, no amateur hour process here. Transitioned within about 9-14 days, slowly tapering old brand out and tapering new brand into her meal. I have not seen my dog diarrhea so much, my dog is a Heeler/Shepherd. They are smart, I am not saying I have the best dog in the world. I am not a crazy pet person, but I do believe she is family. She knows 'outside', she knows 'pee', she has had three accidental incidents of diarrhea back to back nights in my bedroom. I'm letting her out at midnight, at 3:30am and waking up at 6am with an [expected] surprise before our morning exercise.
She doesn't need the kennel, and I did not yell at her at all, I fully understood from my dog's view why it's happening. It's definitely the diet. I am not giving Orijen a negative review, I know they are top-notch but they are also extremely rich. From 490 kcal/meal to my BB 419 kcal/meal. It is for SOME maybe MOST dogs, but NOT for ALL dogs. Just like how Blue Buffalo is for SOME dogs, but not for ALL dogs.
My dog did absolutely fine with Blue Buffalo before I switched to Orijen, her diet wasn't "broken" but I gave her something better and it didn't work out. My dog enjoys Blue Buffalo, she is an extremely energetic well socialized puppy. She enjoys Blue Buffalo Puppy Wilderness edition. So I am one of the few that are rating this product 5 stars despite a large majority disagreeing. Gently test the water with new food, I did. Went from a 1.8 star to a 5 star, so I doubled the quality you could say and it didn't work out for us. I hope my review sheds some light on those interested in BB. Lesson learned, if's not broken, don't fix it.

Last week my black timber wolf became too lethargic to stand. We took her to the vets. Blow work was off Hgb was 9, WBC was 20, neutrophils were elevated, Creatine was twice normal. They kept her for 2 days. No change. I brought her home to be with her mate. Today is day 2. No change. I expect she will die within the next few days.
They are in a 1/2 acre fenced in kennel, well loved and cared for. I blame the dog food especially after reading these accounts. They don't go out unless we harness them and take them for a walk. I wish that those of us who lost our loved ones because of this food should file a class action lawsuit. She has accidents all over the house and she's always been house broken since we adopted her 6 yrs ago. We've taken her to the vet twice, she's been on medications but they don't seem to be working. She also has had some on/off vomiting. We are switching her meds soon to something else we hope will work. We can't think of anything that could have caused this aside from food she eats, which was Blue Buffalo basics.
I'm really hoping this new medication works, I'm really afraid that she's got a permanent issue, and even more afraid that it's killing her. She's only 7 and has lost quite a bit of weight lately. We don't give her people food treats or anything like that so the only place I can look to blame right now is her dog food which was Blue Buffalo. Hello friends. I have read so many of the reviews on this site for BB and sadly most of them are negative. I'm not here to say it wasn't the food that hurt the animals. We as the owners of our precious pets must find the food the works best for your pets' personal needs. BB may not be the food for every cat or dog. But so many of them claim it was the food that hurt or killed their pet when a number of things can harm our pets. Anything from being exposed to the outdoors to biting on a infected mouse. It is a little unfair to Blame BB 100%. Sometimes no matter how careful we are, things still happen.
Miss Honey and parents love Blue Buffalo. And we won't take a risk to switching to anything else. I noticed from most of the reviews they did a switch in food brands. Which can be risky to their little systems. God bless.

I have fed my 7-year-old Cavalier Ming Charles Spaniel BLUE BUFFALO for 5 years and never a problem. First I fed grain free kibble but switched to canned homestyle versions when I noticed he was swallowing kibble whole and was pooping kibble. He loves the canned food and has really thrived on it. His stools are firm and small, easily picked up. Other brands of canned foods gave him diarrhea or large supersoft feces. He has never been sick with Blue Buffalo. Just like people, dogs all have different systems and ingredient allergies. My main complaint for other brands is my dog is sensitive to many of the cheap protein ingredients like corn gluten, soy, and wheat. People are too quick blame the food. Vets will always blame Blue Buffalo because they sell Science Diet which they receive commission on sales. I haven't found a Science diet that my dog tolerates,.
If Blue BUFFALO bothers your pet, try other brands. Dogs and cats have become quite allergic over the years to ingredients found in Purina and other cheaper brands. And, you should NEVER feed your cat dry kibble. One well-known vet says she would rather cats be fed cheap canned Friskies or other brands over dry kibble. Cats have low thirst response so they rarely drink enough water so dry food causes lots of health problems. (bladder stones in particular). I found the WILDERNESS brands too fatty for my dog. So slowly experiment with small changes in food ingredients over time. The ingredients most likely to cause digestive and allergy problems are Corn, Wheat, and Soy. Stay away from these cheap fillers and sources of protein. Particularly cats. They are obligate carnivores and need high meat content. Grains cannot be digested by cats.

As unbelievable as it may sound, I have 13 dogs. I recently purchased a bag of 36 Blue Buffalo Dental Bones because I thought they'd all enjoy a long-lasting chew treat and these seemed big enough and hard enough to give them something to work on. I read the warning not to give to dogs under 5 lbs or puppies (does not apply to my brood). It said they were easily digestible, all natural, made with the finest ingredients etc. My Pomeranian threw up and then began to twitch, couldn't sit up, couldn't stand up - we raced her to our vet. Bloodwork all came back normal, vitals normal but she appeared to be having a neurological problem, similar to ingesting some type of toxin.
By the time we got to the vet and preliminary tests done, my husband and I both watched as our little girl seemed to be drifting away. The vet also looked at us as if to say, don't get your hopes up and immediately hooked her up to an IV to flush out her system. The other dogs didn't have as serious a reaction, though they did have diarrhea. Her reaction remained a mystery and we didn't connect the dental bones, until yesterday. I gave them all a dental bone and the diarrhea began in 8 of the dogs, vomiting in 4 of them and my Pomeranian, who I only gave 1/2 to vomit again. After looking at the ingredients and seeing the sunflower oil, Flaxseed and rosemary oil, I'm inclined to think that's the cause of the loose stools. However, there is one ingredient or more that had a toxic effect on my Pomeranian. The bag is going in the garbage and after reading the reviews of the dog food, I'm going to make a change there too.
12 of my 13 dogs eat Blue Buffalo canned food and they consume 5 cans a day - but not anymore! This particular bag has a sell by date of Dec. 16, 2016 and I've read about the salmonella in some of their other products last year. I don't know if there is a connection but I also buy some of my pet food at Pet Smart and they should have alerted customers. I am constantly worrying that I might purchase tainted dog food and what the consequences would be for us with 13 dogs!

We started mixing in the BB with the remaining RC food until it was just the BB, and he liked it OK. After about a week to ten days, it appeared to me he was starting to gain weight, so we cut back just a bit, but he still looked like he was gaining weight. On March 8, I took him to the vet's office for pre-dental lab work, and everything came back normal, although it was noted he had gained weight. So that day, I also bought the BB Weight Control formula and started mixing that in with the regular BB. The dental on the 11th went fine.
On the 21st, I called the vet because it appeared to me the kitty was constipated, and I noted that he was having problems completing routine jumps. Turned out the "weight" was fluid that was collecting in his abdomen. In two weeks his red blood count had dropped to half of normal (almost "transfusion level" according to the vet). To summarize the hell of the next week, we spent over $3,000 trying to save our kitty. He had one night in the hospital on IVs, the fluid removed, three complete blood tests, ultrasounds, X-rays, medications, two runs to the ER, etc. Between two vet clinics and two pathologist reports, they speculated it could be cancer or FIP or an injury, but they found no cancerous cells in any of the tests including a needle biopsy, that he was missing specific markers for FIP (plus it is extremely unlikely for an older indoor cat with no other cat contacts to get it), and no evidence of an injury.
The only thing all knew for sure was that some duct from his stomach was no longer working. I wondered to the vet if it could be the BB and she said that she had only heard reports of the extreme vomiting. But what if it didn't cause vomiting and instead stayed down and just did damage? In the end, we decided putting the kitty to sleep was the most merciful path to take. I am heartbroken. Perhaps it's just a coincidence that he started going downhill quickly after going on BB, and I'll probably never know the answer for sure. But I have all the labs and documentation to show that his decline started right after we switched to BB. If I had discovered this site earlier, I would have avoided BB like the plague.

I have 3 cats. We decided to switch food because one of them seemed to have sensitive stomach and threw up too often. We switched to Blue Buffalo Mature Grain-Free Turkey and Potato Recipe because turkey is best for digestion from what we read. All the cats seemed to like it. It did help with the throw up issues for the most part. After about 2 months my 20 year old cat just took a turn that was so fast and so unexpected. She was a very healthy girl. I had to have her put down she was hurting herself from being disoriented and almost disintegrating.
I understand she's old etc...but...one week after that my 19 year old cat (also female) died of virtually the same symptoms. Was it old age or the food? I don't know for sure but they were both very healthy for their age. Considering we switched food fairly recently it is a serious thought and feeling of guilt on my mind. My 12 yr old male seems fine. Because of the age of my girls I can't be sure but I do want people to be aware. My cats were fine before the food and now they are gone. I would recommend not using it because I have a very strong feeling it was the food.

On Saturday I went to the Pet Store after researching some of the best brands of dry dog food. My dog had not been eating his dry food for a couple weeks, just the wet food so I thought maybe a change to a better food & adding a little at a time would help. I mixed a little into his wet food on Saturday night and he loved it! We gave him another small meal on Sunday morning and Sunday night. This morning when I went to take him outside, he wasn't moving. He was sluggish and also his one eye looked a little funky, discharge and sunken in. Not himself.
When Zi got home from work he had thrown up five times in three different rooms & also peed on the floor. He hasn't had an accident since he was a new puppy! I immediately suspected the food. I put in the symptoms and dog food name and all this horrible feedback came up. I only hope pulling him off after two days is enough to help him recover. I can't believe only two days did all of this! How can this poison be listed as a good dog food to feed your pet?

I have a 13 year old yellow lab and we changed his food a little over two weeks ago to Blue Buffalo. He really did not like it at first but started eating it. Within a few days he started vomiting which became an issue because he continued with dry heaves and could not stop. We ended up taking him to the vet and he had an ultrasound which showed his digestive system was not working. His stomach was dilated and everything was at a standstill. They gave him a shot and pills for the nausea. We changed back to the previous food and so far no more issues. I spoke with a friend over the weekend and she has 2 labs who had very similar issues with Blue Buffalo dog food. I wish I had read reviews before I tried it.

I am a Bengal breeder. Recently a litter of 10 week old kittens and young breeder girl have become very sick on the BB. I purchased the food on 2/13. By that night, I could see a change in all of them. Diarrhea and lethargy was setting in. The litter was just at my vets on 2/11 and all weights were normal and check ups were perfect. By 2/15, they lost weight in that short amount of time. But the worst reaction was from my young breeder girl. Always very healthy (born here) and feisty, she became extremely lethargic and lifeless. She would vomit bile, her poop was soup and by the 4th day, I could feel her spine. On 2/17 I rushed her into my vets. They did a blood panel and count. Her white blood cell count was 59,000-61,000.
A normal feline WBC is 19,000 on the high end. Monos were high, suggesting a severe bacterial infection rather than viral or parasitic. Everything else came back as normal and fecal test was negative for Giardia and Coccidiosis. She spent several nights on IV's at the hospital. Once I realized this was a bacterial infection I was dealing with, I immediately gave all kittens an injection of Penicillin. By the next day they did a complete turnaround, with their poop now firm and energy returned. It took longer for my young girl to get better. Within 2 weeks, she gained back the 3 lbs she had so very quickly lost in those four days. I had her on Penicillin during that time.
I never knew the source of this infection. Until now. I stumbled on these reviews last week and was stunned. I reached out to my past buyers to warn about BB. Not surprisingly, many had their kittens and cats on Blue, and confirmed illness and diarrhea. Once off, their pets immediately got better. These families do not live anywhere near me and are all across the country, including Alaska! This is not a local problem but definitely a BB food contamination issue. BB will never pay claims for vet bills because that will be admitting guilt. After years of their stock flatlining, they have recently just experienced a profit rise and a recall would be a financial setback for them.
It goes further than just them. The FDA, who oversees pet food regulations, does very little to enforce the laws. Instead, they allow pet food companies to regulate themselves and most do not product test the ingredients that come in from countries like China, a country with a long track record of contaminated ingredients. Pet food labels do not have to say where the ingredients came from as long as it is all mixed together and manufactured here in the USA. At a state level, we have AAFCO who sets nutritional guidelines for pet foods, but their testing is only for new companies and even then their tests are weak and seriously a joke.
Meanwhile, like the many people on these reviews, animals are getting sick with food poisoning and even dying. There is no database to account for all these pets. Humans have the CDC to monitor illnesses. Animals do not so the actual number of pets getting sick due to toxins in their food will continue to be unknown. And the pet lobbyists group will make sure the government keeps it that way. Anyone who wants to talk further to me about their experience, please do so. I want to hear more about your experiences. My email is **.

My 9-month-old Standard Poodle is currently in the hospital dying. He has the same symptoms others have described here in reviews. He eats Blue Buffalo Puppy Kibble and two weeks ago he was perfectly healthy one day, then sick the next. He quit eating and drinking, became very lethargic, had diarrhea with blood in it. Took him to the vet, did a series of X-rays, which showed everything normal. The next day he was still getting worse. Took him back to the vet who did blood-work and everything was normal except blood platelet count was a little low. Vet prescribed a home-cooked chicken and rice diet. He still continued to decline, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic, dehydrated. Took him to the vet again, still no clue. Gave him subcutaneous fluids, because he was so dehydrated and gave him a shot of medicine for nausea that was good for 24 hours.
Twelve hours later he starts vomiting again. Took him back to the vet, put him on IV fluids for severe dehydration, IV antibiotics, and sent him to the specialist at the emergency vet hospital. They did surgery, to rule out foreign object and basically an exploratory. They found nothing to cause this. He is currently at the hospital, wasting away. All of this took place in just under 2-week period. He has lost so much weight. He weighs 5 pounds less than he did 3 months ago.
This is not just a dog, he is my only companion. I am a recent widow, and I am heartbroken again. My baby is dying and no one can stop it! The vet bills as of 3 days ago were over $3,000 and rising. I paid $3,000 for him because he comes from champion AKC Certified Pure breeders. He was eating Blue Buffalo Puppy Kibble. He is dying exactly the way I have read here that others have died and are sick. Don't buy this food. We switched our cats to Blue Buffalo in June. We knew some poor reviews were out there, but they seemed to be from 6+ years ago and our friends have been feeding their cats BB without issues (we figured the company must have improved since then). The new food seemed fine at first. The cats liked it and one kitty began to lose some weight. Initially, we were pleased to see this, as he's a bit heavy-set, but the weight loss continued to a concerning level over the next month (despite the fact that he was still eating) and we took him to be seen by the vet. He had elevated creatinine, which signals kidney problems. We had an ultrasound and urinalysis that revealed nothing further, so we ended up giving him antibiotics in hopes that it was just an acute issue and not long-term kidney disease.
At the same time, we switched the cats back to Science Diet immediately (July). They've eaten nothing else since, and our cat's kidney values have dropped and remained within normal range (creatinine down to 1.3 on Science Diet from 3.6 on Blue Buffalo) for 8 months. Now, perhaps our kitty is particularly susceptible to kidney issues, but given the number of reviews linking Blue Buffalo to renal problems and/or failure, I will never feed it to my cats again. I don't like to think about what might have happened had we not switched back to Science Diet when we did. We have spent so much money in lab tests and vet visits to monitor our little guy. Blue Buffalo is not worth the risk.

We figured it didn't agree with him so we fed him baked chicken for a week and then switched to another dog food brand. Our Golden Retriever loved Blue Buffalo, but after 4 days, he became violently ill with the same symptoms. A month later (last night), our Golden Retriever had a seizure. His blood work and X-rays came back normal. He's acting fine today after a stay in the emergency vet clinic. Not to mention the $600+ bill.
I bragged to my parents about Blue Buffalo after my Golden Retriever scarfed it down 2 days in a row. This may be less of a review and more of an inquiry... We had our four kids on Blue for years and had great results with it. I began to notice that holistic food stores were not fans and preferred Fromm to Blue. I never made the switch since we really had no problem with it. Our biggest issue has been how horrifically bad our dogs' teeth are. Literally they needed cleanings yearly and the decay was unreal. They were on the dry formula and there was really no explanation for how bad the dental issues were. The level of buildup was so severe our one baby had 9 teeth pulled! We didn't know what to do and honestly the dry dog food never crossed my mind as being a potential issue.
I finally decided to try Fromm Family really because the value is immensely better and they had been highly recommended over the years. I has 5 scheduled for cleanings this month and looked again and only 2 really need it. The other 3 are plaque-free and their gums look great. This food is amazing and it's the ONLY thing we have changed. I'm not sure why, but I swear Blue Buffalo food rotted my dogs' teeth out of their heads! No longer a fan.

She's hiked over 350+ of CO's highest peaks and still runs and hikes over 5 to 8 miles every day. Eight days ago we purchase a new bag of Wilderness Blue Salmon. She receives a cup of the Wilderness Salmon in the morning and a cup of regular Blue Adult Chicken at night.
A couple days went by and we noticed very labored breathing and she started to drink water uncontrollably along with diarrhea. Then she started refusing to eat her breakfast 4 days ago and it would sit all day but she would eventually eat it late at night. Then the last 2 days she refused to eat it at all. Same thing again this morning--she refused the salmon. She sniffs and then slowly backs away and dips her head low, her sign over the years to tell me that something is wrong ahead on the trail. I decided to see if she would eat her chicken Blue and placed a bowl down next to the salmon. She gobbled up the chicken. I can tell you that her nose has never failed us on the trail and she knows there's something in the food making her sick.
We also had to say goodbye to a cat last year with the same symptoms and never found out what was wrong with her. She also had been on Blue for life. We adopted a new kitten and put him on Blue and earlier this year he started with the same symptoms along with violent vomiting. We ran all kinds of tests including a ultrasound and the last option the vet said was to try a new diet. We put him on a new diet and symptoms went away immediately. I am not one to write reviews nor complain but I can tell you I feel so strong that there is something terribly wrong with Blue and their suppliers that I felt compelled to write. When he'd get hungry enough, he'd eventually eat it. When the Wilderness food came out, I decided to try it. Thinking back, I noticed that was about the time his stomach would gurgle excessively and he was having a lot of gas.
I didn't attribute it to the food at first. However, in the last three weeks, he has gotten very sick. I've come home to vomit (that looks and smells like diarrhea) and diarrhea all over the house. He also seems very lethargic. We've cleaned everything and doubled check the pantry to make sure he wasn't getting into anything. I've even eliminated treats. However, he has continued to get sick. I decided to do research Blue Buffalo, and many of the reviews I am reading are similar to what we're experiencing with my fur baby. After eating it, she began to have painful diarrhea, crying every time she went to the bathroom. We were talking about what we should do when she started vomiting up all of her food. It all started to make sense. We gave her blue buffalo that morning, and for lunch she wouldn't touch the stuff. She wouldn't even come to the kitchen. After she had thrown up, we drove her to the pet hospital and tried to give her a treat. She wouldn't take it. She became lifeless, she had no energy, just whining pitifully. We spent a lot of money that night, she was severely dehydrated. Her symptoms were so severe, they thought she might have parvo. She tested negative, and they did a few things to make her feel better.
Next day, she seemed better. Gave her the food, same symptoms. Rushed her to the vet, they said it had to be the food. We took her off it and switched to science diet. The past few days have been amazing. She's doing so much better. Still, I worry about her all the time now. I just hope she fully recovers. Shame on this company for hurting so many people and taking their beloved pets from them, all in the name of money. I am emotionally and physically disgusted with the values of this company reflected by the quality of the food. To promise pet owners healthy and nutrient-dense food but then give them a bag of poison and bile instead while refusing to acknowledge blame and admit fault is horrendous; to selficiously injure innocent animals, there is no crueler injustice. I switched my puppy food over to Blue Buffalo when my puppy was about 4 1/2 months old. I was told by a so called expert in puppy food that if I don't start this new diet I was not giving him the best nutrients a puppy needs for a wonderful life. I was told that the food I was feeding him was like giving a child McDonald's food every day. I am a new puppy owner (I have another dog, but got him as an older dog, I am new at the puppy stage) and I put my trust into this suggestion. I switched my puppy over thinking I was doing the best thing for my dog. Soon after I noticed changes in my dog. He started not wanting to eat anymore. He started peeing everywhere. I thought it was strange that he could never hold his pee. He started having very loose stools. He was also very gassy. As time went on, he just stopped eating most of the time, he only ate very little. He would sit under my little children's chairs during supper time looking for scraps to eat.
I was thinking all this was strange but just figured he was just adjusting to the new food. He eventually starting to try eating grass when he was outside. I also noticed a few times he was throwing up a little. He also just started laying around the house all the time. He was not interested in playing anymore. He was lifeless. I used this puppy food til he was almost 6 months and then I soon realized this was going on far too long and started to realize that it was the puppy food. I really stopped and thought this through when I discovered a very bad rash developing on his back. It was oozing with puss. I know from my older dog, skin rashes are usually caused from food problems (allergies-poison in this case). I immediately stopped using this dog food and started giving him rice and chicken (per recommendation from this site after reading everyone else's review - scary!!!). He gobbled his new food up immediately.
I also took him to the vet and got medicine for the rash (antibiotic and a spray antibiotic). I knew this rash was not good. I am so glad I eventually figured this out. I am just hoping now he gets better and nothing was seriously damaged inside. I truly don't believe my dog would be alive much longer if I continue with this food. I feel HORRIBLE for letting my little puppy go through this AWFUL experience. So, SAD. I just hope and pray for a safe recovery. PLEASE do not feed your puppy this dog food!!! Beware!!! My vet was not convinced that it was the puppy food - but I know it is. Can't fool me. Everyone is just always out for a buck. SO SAD!!!

I took pups away and put on a heating pad and gave them to mom every 2 hours. I soon realized they were starving, she had milk, but it had no nutrition in it. Also she stopped eating for about 3 days. She is now eating fresh roasted chicken only. I have lost all puppies but 2, and not sure they are going to make it. I have a friend in another state who is having the same issues and feeds the same dog food. We need help please.

Something must have changed with the formula. We have been feeding our toy maltese for years, but just bought a new bag of chicken and rice formula and that night she had stomach issue with throwing up and diarrhea. She has had this before and with toy breeds, stomach issue are common I am told. However, the next day she was constantly wanting to go out to the bathroom, which she was painfully going. Then we noticed a rash. We called the Vet immediately, who diagnosed her with a allergic reaction and most likely to the food. The only thing we fed her was the Blue Buffalo. Reading other report that Blue Buffalo was acquired and perhaps they are cutting corners -- If this is true they should be ashamed. I will no longer buy this product.

I had my cats on Iams for many years. I decided to switch to Blue Buffalo thinking it would be healthier for my cats. Over time my cats started losing weight and then it became too much weight lost. I could feel the spine way too much on my older cat. I always left more food out for them than they would eat but it didn't matter. I started supplementing with canned food to help them gain weight and it still wasn't enough. I have finally switched them back to Iams and they are now starting to put the weight back on.

My husband and I are owners of 5 dogs and have been feeding them Blue Buffalo for 10 years, thinking we were giving them a quality dog food. Recently, we noticed one of our 10 yr old dogs starting to eat poop. Not something she has ever done in the past. Then, another 10 yr old dog quit eating her food at all; very unusual because she is our gobbler. This morning, I dished out their kibble and saw live worms of varying sizes. Further investigation of the remaining dog food (which by-the-way, we keep in a sealed plastic bin once the bag is opened) revealed more bugs - some actually stuck half way out of a kibble. Needless to say, we are going to our local pet store to discuss with the owner. He should know what is being sold out of his store and we will be changing dog food brands to see how our clan does with the change.

We always fed our 1 year old Great Dane Purina Pro Plan. One day my daughter bought some Blue Wilderness Wolf Creek Stew. She put 1/2 can with his normal dog food just to give him a little treat. Within 12 hours of eating the food he was vomiting. We thought his stomach was just upset. The next day he did not have any interest in food, was still vomiting and now he was shooting blood out his rectum. We rushed him to the vet who told us we needed to get him to the hospital. At this point he did not want to stand up. By the time we got him to the hospital he was so sick he could not even hold his head up. He ended up having to stay in the hospital for 1 week, hooked up to IV's. The food tore up his stomach and intestines. They asked us at the hospital if he could have gotten into any poison, that's how bad he was. He did not eat or drink anything for 6 days. We finally got him to eat and drink a little.
For the next month all we could feed him was rice, chicken and boiled ground meat. He was also on so many prescriptions. We ended up with vet bills over $7000.00. I filed a claim with Blue Wilderness and they denied our claim saying that I could not prove it was the food that caused this. I said it seemed odd that he was perfectly fine and within 12 hours of eating the Blue Wilderness stew he became ill and within 24 hours almost died. They said that they test all their food and that it is of the best quality, blah, blah, blah.
All they care about is the money, not what their food did to our pet. $7000.00 may not be anything to them but to me $7000.00, the emotional and physical stress it caused my daughter and myself, and the HELL our dog went through is unacceptable. Needless to say the day this happened, I had just had foot surgery and 2 hours after my surgery I was driving our dog to the hospital which was over an hour away. He is doing well these days but I will never feed him anything other than Purina Pro Plan. Blue Wilderness - poison. You be the judge.

Amy is our papillon and she has been perfectly healthy for the five years we have had her. Both my papillons have always eaten Chicken Soup dog food. My husband and I had talked about switching them to Blue Buffalo because they claim to have such a great product. So on Christmas Eve I got a bag of Blue Buffalo for small adult breeds, lamb and brown rice I think. One papillon refused to eat the small round kibble that looks like peppercorns. Amy wasn't choosy.
Three weeks later Amy is vomiting up the food, lethargic, and can barely breathe. We take her to the vet, who refers us to the pet hospital because she has fluid in and around her lungs. They have to use ultrasound to extract 5 ounces of liquid. They diagnosed her with protein losing enteropathy due to thickening of her intestinal wall. She had very low protein levels. Afterwards, she was put on prescription food and given some meds. I immediately switched my other dog back to Chicken Soup brand. At recheck, her protein levels were fine and she was acting like her old self again.
The doctors can't specify how all this happened. But after five years of being healthy, and then getting sick after only three weeks of eating this food, I have serious suspicions that Blue Buffalo dog food was the cause especially since her symptoms corrected after she stopped eating the food, which is inconsistent with the diagnoses of protein losing enteropathy. I have read reviews on dogs who weren't as lucky as Amy. Over 1000 dollars in vet bills and a 40 dollar bag of food in the trash, and consider myself both lucky and foolish. I should have read up before I ever switched the food.

My 7-year old Husky has been on BB dog food since she was 6 months old. We started on the BB Life Protection Formula. At that time, I believe BB was a small company with quality sourcing their ingredients. At about age 7 she started having problems with sores on her feet. I switched her to the Wilderness BB, no success. I then tried the BB Basics, still same problem. After switching to a vet prescribed brand - not one issue!
I was afraid to leave BB. I believe as a larger company they now have poorer quality control and can't control sourcing. Or they are aware of their sourcing and are cutting corners. Many animals have had a bad reaction to this food. Vomiting isn't an allergic reaction. My dog had an allergic reaction. For those owners who had dogs vomiting and convulsing, that's poisoning. Most dog food companies source "scraps" from China, questionable sources, even road kill. It's too bad that Blue Buffalo has went down the poor quality control road. They should be investigated. Obviously the claims of purity aren't true. Sad but true.

I've spent some time reading these reviews about how Blue has made pets sick. I've been using Blue cat food for 8 years and my cats have had 0 reactions or issues to it. If anything, it's given them more energy than the food I was using before. They're 9 now and still act like kittens. We've also recently switched our 9-month old puppy from Blue puppy food to Blue Wilderness large breed adult food. This is her first week with no mixed in puppy food and she's loving it! No reactions, no diarrhea, tons of energy. With my experiences with the food, I have to believe the negative reactions are more based on allergic reactions to the food or a dog's specific digestive system not being able to process it. I'm 3/3 on healthy Blue animals so you can't blame the food. Dogs have allergies to food just like people do so stop blaming the food.

I have been buying this food for years. I have purchased the salmon for many pups that was supposed to be grain free. My dog kept getting skin issues on and off. We went to the vet after several thousand dollars later. I changed food to Zignature. My 11 yr old boxer and 12 yr cockapoo have been eating blue for years a different flavor. I have realized their stools are all the time and never had that before. I kept asking Petsmart if something was changing, and they said they heard someone else bought the company and the food was changing. I returned several bags also due to it was so powdery not full bits. I am not finding out my boxer has a tumor and after reading all these reviews I am very upset we never knew this before. My boxer is very ill and close to death after now finding out if was possibly his food that I put a lot of money into feeding my babies. SO UPSET!!!

I normally buy Blue Buffalo small breed dog food, but I was only able to find Blue Wilderness small breed chicken. I assumed as they were made by the same company, the quality would also be the same. On Saturday January 9th/2016, my shihpoo spent the morning at Petsmart groomers and once home, I fed her the Blue Wilderness food I had also purchased that same morning. She starting shaking uncontrollably a few hours after eating and continued through the night.
By Sunday, she became lethargic and started wheezing. Monday we took her to the Vet and they said her lungs were clear and that it may have been stress related due to grooming (never happened before). We were given Science Diet Calming Food for her to try. By Tuesday, she still had not eaten anything and her condition worsened... her breathing laboured and wheezing... not walking, no eating, drinking or bowel movements. We again made an emergency trip to the Vet. They did a full diagnostic... xray and blood work and could not find anything wrong. They were perplexed.
Wednesday we thought we would lose her as it appeared she was losing her will to live. Thursday she stabilized. Friday a little better and had a small amount of the Science diet food. She made a full recovery a week later. She has been eating only Science Diet since then except yesterday afternoon when (without my knowledge) my children fed her the Blue Wilderness by accident (I did not throw out the bag yet). Last night she started shaking and today she vomited. I am now convinced it is the food. I will be taking it to the vet to have it tested.

I have a 12-year-old rescue who has never had any stomach trouble. I saw ads for Blue Buffalo and decided to try it. On his second feeding of this food he had a terrible reaction to it. I left him for four hours and came home to a terrible mess of poop and vomit all over the floor. He hasn't messed in the house since he was 6 months old and was mortified by it as much as me. I decided to google about it and found way too many incidences of this problem. I will be returning the food which is not cheap and he will never have another morsel of it. He will be getting organic chicken and rice for a few days.

I've been using the homestyle recipe chicken and homestyle recipe turkey and meatloaf canned dog food. I started noticing higher moisture content and a different smell. The food is real mushy and no longer has the rich meaty smell that it used to have. It smells like a cheaper more processed dog food. Then about a week later, I received an email about the lawsuit against Blue Buffalo for false advertising and labeling. They are settling the lawsuit for $32,000,000. No company would settle for that amount, unless there was wrongdoing. They did admit to guilt. I did call and complain about the food. They said they would investigate, but no one has ever returned my call. I will no longer be a customer of Blue Buffalo.

I can not verify the cause was his dog food but after researching causes online, the consistency of occurrences relating to Blue Buffalo leaves me numb. Why is this company still making dog food? How many family pets must die before they are held accountable. The only dog food Cooper ate was Blue Buffalo and Blue Wilderness. We thought we were buying quality food for our precious dog.

I liked the BB brand because of their price and name. They have so many choices for me. I adopted a pug who, we did not know, has a sensitive stomach. I fed her BB Life Protection Formula which gave her bad diarrhea and gas! So I switched her to Natural Balance, but she did not like it. So I switched her to BB Wilderness with Red Meats Formula. She is not as exciting with the food as much as her Hill's I/D food. However, BB Wilderness seem to agree with her stomach. It caused her to be gassy - I can deal with it. I was happy to find the right food for her UNTIL I FOUND other Animal HAIR in the food. I opened the brand new bag last night and found hair!
At first, I thought it was my puppy's hair, but the deeper I go into the bag, the more hair I found. So I looked into each kibble and found few of them having hair sticking out. Those hair are the same hair I found in the bag. I really thought I was tripping but the hair in the kibbles proved to me enough that they are not my dog's hair. Plus it was brand new bag! My puppy was upstairs sleeping, the table was clean, and the contain was just cleaned. P.S. The old bag had tiny blue stuff, but they were tiny so I didn't consider too much. I just carefully took them off. But now I know to never buy Blue Buffalo brand. It was my fault though for didn't do a well researched with this brand.

Then I saw Blue had one for Digestive problems. I bought it and she loved it. She started eating better and having daily bowel movements and was only vomiting a little when she had a bowel movement. Now she has quit eating her food and seems to not be able to have a bowel movement. I am calling the vet Monday as I just heard someone say they had heard bad things about Blue.
Also my dog has been eating Science Diet and I thought Blue might be better since it is supposed to be grain-free. I bought a small bag of Blue Basic and have mixed some with her Science Diet. She loves the Blue, but her stomach is really bloated and she seems to need to have more bowel movements than usual. I am afraid to give her more after reading all of the complaints.

I took them off Blue Buffalo and their skin has cleared up. I put them on Purina One and they absolutely love it and there are no more issues with their skin. I have read many experiences about people who have had a bad and at times tragic results with Blue Buffalo and about the recalls. We have 2 Keeshond, 1 10 years old that we acquired two and half years ago and 1, 4 years we have had since a pup. Both are fed Blue, and we have had no problems whatsoever. The older one is fed the "older adult" version, which I know means nothing, other than it is low in fat and lower in protein, and the other one is fed the Turkey and Potato Basic. Prior to feeding the younger one Blue we feed him Wilderness and he had chronic digestive issue and poor appetite. Once we switched to the Blue he eats well and no digestive issues. There are so many opinions regarding this issue and no comprehensive regulation for pet food that I believe you find what works for your pet and move on.

The canned food use also made my border collie very sick, she has had other brands such as science diet and royal canin and been just fine. I recently bought the Christmas cinnamon and oatmeal Christmas cookies they had out and both my dogs have become very sick a few hours after ingesting them. They both threw up multiple times. I have since thrown away rest of the bags. I feel blue buffalo isn't as high of quality as they claim. I adopted my English Bulldog puppy and I only want to give her the very best of everything. So I bought her Blue Wilderness Large Breed puppy food. As a result she had the worst gas I have ever!!! Her stools were soft and her hair was coming out in patches! I blamed it on everything besides the food. I thought maybe allergies??? So I took her to the vet because in the places she was losing hair started blistering up. The vet tells me it could be her dog food to change it. Well, I rolled it off. I thought "I pay good money for this food, it couldn't be that." I adopted another English Bulldog puppy. His stools became soft and he started getting gas as well. Three vets told me to change the food! I finally did, started them on Purina Pro Plan. The gas and loose stools is all gone now! This has been a great lifelong lesson!

I saw a posting on Yahoo about Blue Buffalo and to my shock and horror, realized that my cat brush with death last year might be because of his food!! Our cat suddenly started losing weight so we thought it was stress from moving or because we switched him from kitten to adult food. I went and bought the Blue Buffalo Wilderness kitten food. After another week, he suddenly collapsed and we rushed him to the emergency vet. They felt he had been poisoned and he was put on emergency IVs, etc. After several days and over a thousand dollars, he recovered. Having no idea, I continued buying the "best" for him and ransacked my house for anything he could have gotten into, but found nothing. He went through another episode a month ago. I am switching foods to see if it stops. I NEVER even considered the food. I really trusted them and am horrified that I might have put him through this. Our puppy seems good, but now I am worried about him too!

I've watched this string for the past year after putting my dog down and can't believe nothing's been done by BB. The number of people increased by 1,000 since last year and Blue Buffalo won't admit it was their food that caused the problem. Most everyone shares the same story. Vomiting, lethargic, hesitant to eat the food and then diarrhea episodes leading to the dog being put down. Very sad. I work to educate anyone who feeds their dog this toxic garbage.
