    SHOPPERS BEWARE! ASPCA Insurance has very sneaky business practices! I started a policy for my dogs in 2017 for $80/month ($40 per dog)... It was then increased to $99/month — then $118/month — and in November 2019, it was raised to $161/month without any notification. They have more than DOUBLED my monthly premium in less than 3 years. I have paid over $4,200 in monthly premiums and one of my dogs has never even had a single claim. SHOP ELSEWHERE FOR INSURANCE! There are PLENTY of companies that are trustworthy of your time and money but ASPCA Insurance is NOT one of them!

    This company is a scam. I honestly think a lot of these positive reviews aren't real. My wife signed up for a plan and we paid ~$65 a month for years for our dog and when his heart started failing due to a heart murmur were told the incident limit was $3k so that was all they'd cover. Ok, seems low but whatever. Then a conversation a few months later they said the incident limit was $1k so that was all they'd cover. Ok, seems really low. Then when we submitted the expenses they refused to pay that because they said it was congenital. Well that sucks.

    In conversations with the rep she said there were new policies in the last few years (called 4.1 or something) that were much better. Had much higher incident limits for the same cost. I don't know if I believe that but even if true, why wouldn't you let long-time existing customers know?? Oh because you'd prefer they stay on the old plan that doesn't pay out much. Do yourself a favor. Avoid pet insurance and just put the money in a savings account to use on future expenses, because they likely aren't paying you out anywhere close to what you pay them.

    I've been a bit delayed in submitting a review of ASPCA Pet Health Insurance and should have done so sooner. My husband and I are so glad to have insurance through ASPCA for our 80-lb. toddler/pit bull mix, Zeus. Not long after first getting the policy we experienced a series of scary and unnerving health issues with Zeus, including one that resulted in a very expensive trip to a pet ER and another one not long after that resulted in an (almost equally expensive) emergency trip to what is now his permanent (and absolutely wonderful) vet! I tear up thinking about the anxiety, worry, and stress we dealt with over a period of about 2 months of constant and out-of-nowhere health issues with our baby that resulted in several vet trips and I'm just so grateful to this company for being there for us through such a difficult time.

    Claim processing time was a bit delayed in the beginning, but it was mainly because there were lots of moving parts at the time; we had just moved from out of state, got the insurance, needed to communicate with his old vet about sending his health records in and maintain regular communication with ASPCA regarding those preliminary details, and then needed to find him a permanent vet since his first veterinary experience here was at an ER. So there was a lot going on. But each person I spoke to was so kind, caring, and empathetic and really seemed like they genuinely cared about what we were going through and about helping facilitate the process as much as possible.

    I never felt like I was getting "the run-around" from anyone, every person I spoke to was very clear in terms of the documentation required for submission before any claims could be processed, the steps they'd need to go through on their end, and about how long they would take to be processed. So I know it's a bit of a hassle to make sure the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed, but really if you stay on top of things sooner than later, you'll avoid being inconvenienced when it matters the most.

    For our 2 year old fur baby, the monthly premium cost is also pretty fair both in comparison to other companies we got quotes from and in considering the coverage details -- we chose a low deductible, the highest reimbursement percentage, and a generous annual limit. And honestly the peace of mind I have from having this insurance is priceless.

    My only suggestion for improvement to them would be to offer a bit more for the wellness plan. I researched a LOT of pet insurance companies, probably all of them, and this seems to be an issue across the board. Best case scenario I found, I'd break even, with the worst case being I end up spending more altogether with wellness costs and the wellness plans themselves, so I opted to stick with the accidents and illnesses coverage. The coverage itself was/is good enough that the wellness plan being inadequate wasn't a deal-breaker for us. But it would be really nice to be able to get a wellness plan that is actually worth getting.

    And I'd be remiss in my duty as a millennial if I didn't comment on the technological convenience. Their app is GREAT. I've literally never filled out a single paper or even submitted claims on my laptop, EVERYTHING I've done I've done via phone calls or on their app. You can really see and do everything you need on the app, which for me is extremely important cause 1.) I'm busy and 2.) is anyone really even able to remember their passwords anymore with how ridiculous the requirements are? Basically, if I can't access it via fingerprint on a smartphone, I'm not interested because I know I'll never get to it. And this is another way this company helps make things as convenient as possible. I very highly recommend this insurance. You just never know when you'll need it and if and when you do, you'll be glad you have one less thing to worry about.

    I’m thankful every day for this insurance. Two months after having it, my little chi had an emergent episode which landed her in an emergency clinic and subsequent hospital stay for 4 nights and 5 days. This resulted in a diagnosis of severe pulmonary hypertension, enlarged heart and collapsed trachea.. She is now on medication three times a day, and goes for testing every 3 to 4 months.     If I knew how much they were going to scam me, I would have gone with another insurance company. Beware of their catch all “14 day grace period”. I made the mistake of filing a claim for our new puppy inside of the 14 day period. We just got him and wanted him checked out. Of course he has parasites, so they gave us medicine for it. I filed the claim and it was promptly denied. Ok, I got it. Inside the grace period. Well, we had to take him back to get another fecal exam to make sure the parasites were gone. We ended up having to go back a total of 3 times, with a special trip to an ER for special medicine. All claims were denied because it was either considered a pre-existing condition or an illness that was developed inside the grace period.

    “There is a 14 day Waiting Period for coverage of Illnesses and ligament and knee conditions when starting a new plan. Conditions which manifest during this time are not eligible for coverage.” He’s a puppy! They get parasites! Pre-existing condition?? We had him for 2 days before we took him to the vet. To say it’s pre-existing is ridiculous! So now any claim that deals with parasites will be denied. To say I am disappointed in how they handled my claims is an understatement!

    I decided a few years ago that I needed to get my Puggle a supplemental insurance for emergencies or things that happened outside of her Banfield plan as it seems like if she gets sick or injured it's outside of office hours and emergency service is expensive.     They will do whatever they can to not reimburse you for anything. It's clear they let whoever answers the phone choose what is a "preexisting condition" based on their subjective opinion. My vet went through all my pup's records with me and told me the insurance should cover it-- $1000 vet bill and two years of monthly payments to ASPCA later and I've paid for it all and not gotten a penny back. Cancelled my plan today-- it's more beneficial to put money away monthly for an emergency than to give it to these crooks.

Customer service is often very slow as is the payment of claims. You never know when a check will be deposited in your account, you have to keep checking which is a real pain.

    I was going to drop my coverage with ASPCA because of the pre-existing rule. But kept it, after you changed the definition of a pre-existing condition.     ASPCA Pet Insurance has been the difference between euthanasia and a quality, albeit challenging, life for my gentle giant. Unfortunately the premiums increased by nearly 30% after the first year. I am hoping this is something of a one off and will update next year as to whether this is a tenable long-term option.     On the website, there is a check box that tells you all the things that *may* be covered. Pet neuter/spay is on there. Well, apparently it's not necessarily covered, as in our case. I'm furious because I assumed it was. They didn't cover a dime of a $600 procedure. And their callous call center representative wouldn't do anything for us, even though the site says it is, with a green little check mark. This is the reason we went with this pet insurance vs. any other pet insurance, and we're out of luck.

    We have had our puppy for about 12 weeks, and we are about $2,600 deep in vet bills, and haven't even hit our $250 deductible. This plan has denied coverage for just about everything, stating things are all tied to the few issues our puppy had in the first 14 days. While I understand her coccidia she had on her first day would not be covered, I never expected them to deny our claim for acute conjunctivitis because it showed similar symptoms to potential redness she had in her eye months prior. I also didn't expect them to deny our $1000 worth of claims for gastroenteritis, stating that too was a preexisting condition.

    The claim processing information is vague, and they just provide a number for why they denied a claim - no information regarding the medical records they used to make the decision. You have to sit on hold and then talk to the folks with customer service to try and understand why they denied your claim, because an explanation is not available via self service. There is no easily available information with regards to how you make an appeal, so you're supposed to write a document and send it to the parent company's email, who will take 30 days to even review it.

    The claims processing is so slow, that if you have hopes of being reimbursed before paying your credit card bill - forget about it. Dealing with this insurance provider has been disappointing and an added stress on top of all the vet visits and health issues my puppy has dealt with. I wish I would've never signed up for this $60/mo plan, because it's been absolutely worthless to myself and my family.

And, we define pre-existing conditions as a health problem that occurs (i.e. symptomatic) before coverage is effective or during an applicable waiting period. That being said, with most conditions that are curable, once the condition is cured, symptom, and treatment free for 180 days, we will consider it to be a new condition and no longer pre-existing.
