Free stamps? They sucker you into signing up and then you never hear from them again. Meanwhile your credit card is charged each month for a "subscription" to their service. What a joke. Don't fall for their scam.

I went online and mistakenly put in my credit card information, but backed out of the transaction before ordering or committing to anything after looking at their reviews. Nonetheless, they went ahead and sent me a package and started charging my credit card without authorization. This is fraud. There is no way to cancel online, and the only way I was able to get this reversed was through my credit card company. This company acts fraudulently. DO NOT PUT IN ANY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION.

There's no way to cancel your account online and when your account is closed out you should receive an email immediately to confirm your account has been closed out. The biggest problem with you all is the long wait for assistance and you're not 24/7 and you are closed on weekends. Even the USPS open on Saturdays. How can you be an online vendor for the USPS when you're not reliable at all? You're supposed to have the same hours of operation the Main USPS has open to close.
You all CHARGE a monthly service that is the biggest scam around. You're not giving people a deal, especially when you add up everything. It's cheaper to just go directly to the USPS and that's what I did. You all been around since 1999 and your website isn't capable with mobile devices, that's called being stuck in the past refusing to change and upgrade to the current technology. I own three businesses and I am very upset and disappointed in this company. I will be filing a complaint against you all with the USPS, for scamming people especially by telling people that you are able to correct addresses and change the address to the correct address. I was told by the USPS that's a lie.

I went for the four week trial, because that's the only way you can see really what they have to offer. Canceled the SAME day. A few weeks later, I have a charge on my credit card. Stamps.com tells me I didn't cancel until after the four week trial. It's my word against theirs. I thought I'd do an internet search and entered "Stamps.com scam" and this site came up. I KNEW they were scamming me. Do not do business with them. I wish I'd checked on them before I signed up.

Like others, I went onto this site to see what services they offer that might be helpful. I should have known they weren't safe since I had to enter my Credit Card right off the bat. I tried to cancel my service immediately as others here have done, and it's impossible online. I have sent multiple emails and they aren't even apologetic?! They say "we feel this charge was fair" when I've NEVER EVEN USED their services once. I am hopeful I am getting my money back as their last email indicated, but they are rude, and clearly lack ethics.

I shut down my account and the next day there was a fresh charge on my credit card. They said they would mail me a check with the balance of postage I had purchased, but after reading the many negative comments, I am not hopeful. Now I have to cancel that card, which will cost me so much time. Avoid this unscrupulous company at all costs.

Website is a trick requiring that you enter in your credit card info in order to advance to the next page. Hidden fees that end when your “trial period” ends. In order to explore the website you become a “trial period” member even if you just want to simply see what the site has to offer. It is like the Fyre Festival - all looks and sounds good but you just don’t know what you are getting yourself into. Just go to the Postal Office. The hassle and fraudulent website aimed at collecting your financial information is NOT worth it.

I stopped using Stamps.com for a few months and completely forgot about my account. The credit card on file expired and I was no longer being billed for the service. With this being the case I assumed my account service was cancelled and I was not being charged anymore. Fast forward almost 2 years and my need for Stamps.com came back. I logged back in, added a new credit card and figured I was starting fresh. WRONG! That entire time I was being charged monthly for the service. Even if I wanted I had no access to the website with an expired credit card yet I was still being charged. Got hit with a huge lump sum fee and they would not refund. Extremely shady business practice, Imagine if I decided to wait 5-10 years? I would have been hit with a several thousand dollar fee.

Stamps.com prints postage well enough. I have two complaints with the company. 1. If you make an error in postage it's hard to get reimbursed or the money added back to your account. 2. Website Account Service is deceiving if you want to cancel service. If you have an account and you want to cancel, they have made it as difficult as possible. You can click on your account to manage it and then click update/cancel service. There is no way to cancel the service online! You have to search help topics and call them. Once on the phone with service, they transfer you to someone who does their best to keep you. Now, this isn't a bad thing but, they start asking a lot of questions about you, your business, etc... It's none of their business! Stamps.com should clean up their website and their act. Pro tip: Keep the service for a week or two, call to cancel. They will drop their price by 1/2.

They conveniently bury the subscription fee that will hit you after the trial period ends in the fine print. I signed up for this service in Nov 2018. I noticed on my Dec credit card statement I had a charge of $18.99. I went online to look at my billing history. It was vague to say the least so I called the company. Once I explained the issue, I was put on hold for about 10 minutes. Then a supervisor came on the line. She explained when I signed up it was for a trial period. After the trial period, they began charging me $18.99 p/month. I told her they should be more forthcoming upfront about the subscription fees rather than burying them in the fine print. I actually don't remember reading anything about the subscription fee, wasn't sent an email that is customary when a company is about to renew or hit your credit card.
I immediately canceled my service. They told me the outstanding balance I had in my account will take up to 4 weeks to process. That doesn't make any sense but then again, if I do get it back in four weeks I consider myself lucky. (I'll monitor them to see if in fact they refund the amount and update later.) She did offer me a reduced fee p/month of $4.99 but I refused. Their claim is they are able to save their customers from standard USPS rates. I haven't investigated this claim yet so possibly someone else has. If in fact Stamps.com does have a reduced fee vs the postal service that would be good to know. Possibly someone else has researched this claim.

Now I can't send anything out and my payment was declined. So I stopped using it for months. Then called in to pay a lower $10 fee to reopen the account. They instead charged me $60 after I was told it was to be $10. Now I can't even get a refund and was scammed out my money. I have used Stamps.com for two years now. My main issue almost the whole time was glitches in the system where my postage wouldn't print but I would be charged. We are talking almost every time I would print. I would print on average 30 times a week. So you can imagine it's hard to keep up with the refunds for unprinted postage. They only give you 28 days to get a refund. So over the last year I have $30 of postage I never used that never even printed & they refused to pay me back. I think it's over $80 for the two years. This problem could have been fixed if they would have dealt with the glitches I kept having. I would call and they could never fix them. They didn't care one bit that they owe me money. This company has 0 integrity!

I called to inquire why and was told that when I bought these two packages of stamps online, I agreed to be billed monthly for the privilege of using this company. Occasionally, I send educational material to my great grandchildren and through Stamps.com I have ordered the proper labels and envelopes to use for those packages. Stamps.com has been around for some time now and I've been a customer for around 20 years and pay a monthly fee for services as described. Lately they (Stamps.com) have been slipping on the quality of their services and after pointing out the errors to them I get answers that just don't sit well with me; like, we're not sure why the program is doing that, you need to call us to discuss this problem, we're working on it, etc., etc.
Now I understand program glitches but they can always be fixed or just rewritten. But they don't seem to want to bother with them and give me, the customer canned responses. Now I have been living up to my end of the contract each and every month by making the full monthly payment. Let's face it, they would not accept an answer from me such as; well my writing implement just couldn't seem to construct the full amount, or call me so we can see about it; now would they? So, yes they are a good company overall and I recommend it for anyone who like to do their own postage.

I have been a customer of Stamps.com for over five years. I used to have a traditional postage meter, but as costs rose I looked around for something less expensive. Stamps.com's software was easy to set up and integrate with my computer. I use a Dymo Labelwriter to print labels for packages and my regular printer for stamps and envelopes. I have a small home-based business, but Stamps.com gives me access to corporate postage pricing for $15.99 a month, which saves me hundreds of dollars a year.
Another great thing is being able to purchase insurance for my international shipments, since it is often not available through the postal service (unless you are using Priority Express). It is also simple to integrate the software with third party sites like eBay and Amazon. The best thing about them, though, is their terrific US based customer service and tech support. No software is glitch-free, but Stamps.com has always been able to solve any problem I have had quickly and cheerfully. I heartily recommend them for any small business.

My account was charged on 9-6-18.
The girl I spoke to was unable to find the account using my name or my current email address. She was able to locate an account under the old email address. I explained the situation to her and advised I had not set up the account. The girl verified the account had only been used to print the first 9 free stamps and there was 77 cents still showing available. I requested she cancel the account and refund the money that was charged since I did not set up the account. The account was set up using incorrect information. She agreed to close the account, waive the monthly fee and refund the 15.99 that had been charged.
Well today the 15.99 was still not refunded. I called back. Oh wow. I am shocked and ashamed of the customer service that was provided. I spoke to Christine and let's just say that she is one of the worst customer service reps I have ever spoken to. That says a lot since I am a customer service manager for a large insurance company. She was unhelpful, she talked over me, got loud when I didn’t agree with what she was saying, refused to believe the previous person told me they would refund the fees, kept repeating the same thing over by explaining how Stamps.com bills the month after the month is done. She told me that I was billed on 9-6-18 for the month previous. She then told me I needed to go to my bank to dispute the charges to get my money back 4 times.
WOW!!! It’s only 15.99 and I have spoken with my bank and my cards have been reissued but I can tell you that not only will I never use Stamps.com, as a legitimate customer, due to this experience but pray that someone quality monitors the call so they can get this little girl some serious training. After entering information to print a label or directly onto an envelope - the website will then tell you, you must install software to print. If you are using an ‘incompatible’ device such as a Chromebook or Notebook - you cannot install the plugin or software.
If you should decide to cancel your account (btw, there is a monthly fee) because you cannot use their product - it will take them 6-8 WEEKS to send you a refund check - despite the fact it only took them less than 2 seconds to ELECTRONICALLY debit your account. Recommendation: do not use Stamps.com. It is a skiving, scheming site with hidden fees and slow to return the money they were quick to take before you could determine if you can even USE their service.

I have used Stamps.com for my small business of selling books on Amazon for 9 years. I recently had a problem where my shipping labels were not printing but the amount of postage was being deducted from my account. I called Stamps and a real person answered. They got me to the right department. It took a couple of days for the problem to get fixed. In the meantime, I answered the email I received, saying that I knew they were working on it but it was still time consuming and frustrating. I immediately received a call. I was assured they were still working on a fix and then they waived 3 months service fee. The problem has now been resolved. I appreciate the personal and responsive customer service!!!

When they rejected one of nine photos, I received the notification too late to change anything, was not told which photo it was, and not given an opportunity to replace the photo with another. Their process is so automated that it is unresponsive to problems and mistakes: Piecemeal emails created a long enough time delay, that the order arrived before a solution was found. They sent stock answers to questions I never asked and ignored what I wrote. Customers know how maddening it is when a company chooses cheap automation over individual service.

I signed up with Stamps.com because I wanted to ship something first class mail and not wait in line for an hour at the post office. I had no idea I would be charged $15.99 a month after 4 month trial. Maybe I did see that but forgot about it. I never received any email statement. They were charging me for months over 2 years. I used this service 4 times. I should do better job checking my credit card statement. I use it for everything. Has lot of charges on there. I just missed it for months. I have several other monthly fees for things. I get a statement when I'm charged.
I'm guessing this is part of their business model for dumb people like me. They can sneak $16 a month. What I found even worse about them was when I checked the different service plans the cheapest was $15.99 Pro plan. When I went to cancel they tried to keep me by offering $7.99 basic plan which was never offered before. What kind of honest business plays these games with service plans. If you do use this company cancel before the trial is up. Reading some of these reviews they like to play games with that too. I would just avoid them.

NOTE: I'm not invalidating others' experiences. I'm just speaking about my own as an occasional user of stamps since I don't send much physical mail. Below are some tips and pointers I gained. I really enjoy the fact that I can print out stamps from the comfort of my own home. When printing here's the key: ABUSE THE TEST SHEET!!! I used it three times just because the zoom and print range were a fraction of an inch off. Don't print until it's perfect. I now have 9 perfectly printed stamps, and will use them probably over the course of the year.
Now, for the disappointments. Firstly, you can't cancel your subscription online or through email. It must be over the phone. Why do they do this when you can do everything else over the phone? Really makes no sense other than to make it even more inconvenient to unsubscribe. Clearly it's the suits of the company that did this.
Here's something Stamps.com won't tell you in any other way other than through customer service, and only if you ask: they have an option for **$4.99/mo for 15 stamps**, instead of the regular plan of $15.99/mo for unlimited stamps. They are only allowed to tell you if you specifically ask for other plans! Neither will they remind you when you reactivate the account. I think this is clearly a money-making business strategy, which is fine since they can do what they want, but it's not in the best interest of the consumer.
As for the account dashboard, there's an EXTREMELY annoying entry called "Manual Orders", and it appears as a [1] next to "Awaiting Shipment", which is reminiscent of unread notifications of messages. Why? For no reason other than to encourage the user to BUY MORE BUY MORE BUY MORE!!! For those who know UI, this is a serious "dark pattern" they've employed.
Conclusion: it's still worth checking out and ordering. I'm perfectly happy to not have to call them for a year or so, pay $4.99 + amount to print 15 stamps, and de-activate my account afterward again. But it's these other things that get in the way of the experience, things that clearly make it harder on the user simply to make more money, that I think Stamps.com seriously needs to reconsider if they want to gain and keep users and last for the long run.

Either way, their tactic is to free your account so they can charge monthly fees because you can't cancel them, since it's frozen. Stay away from Stamps.com! They charge a monthly fee for services that are free for businesses on Paypal.com or USPS.com. But that's not why I gave them 1 stars, they use legal fine print trickery that you don't see to trick you into paying for more services than what you even need. Even if you go less than 1 day past your first month, they charge you for an entire second months of use even if you don't use any of the services. They won't charge you until after the months period has ended, so the only way to avoid this is to cancel your credit card.

However, the $15.99 monthly subscription charges kept showing for another 4 months. Called the customer services and they couldn’t find out why the account was being charged after cancellation. They won’t issue refund or even stop future charges saying ‘we can’t do that without knowing why it was charged’. Finally, I had to call my bank to block Stamps.com for this to stop. I opened my account in June of 2014, iirc, to send divorce papers to my ex husband. I used it once more that Xmas season of 2014 to send two packages. I completely forgot about it for a YEAR and called to cancel in December 2015. I was somehow talked into staying on and totally forgot about my subscription as it was on a credit card we denoted as 'do not use' personally to pay down the debt and save for emergencies. Well, emergency hit this month and I'm checking the balance when I see that next to our monthly payment every month there's a Stamps.com charge. Oh my god we've been paying them for 2 years for nothing.
I call to cancel and the employee this time didn't try to talk me out of it. He asked if I was looking for refunds and I said I wasn't intent on any but I'd take whatever they'd offer. I understand the scheme and I played the fool. He connected me to a supervisor and she took a look at my account and not only got the year wrong (I have records apparently she doesn't) but felt the urge to condescendingly state that 'Stamps.com doesn't work based on usage' but she'd cut me 2 months of a refund. So I got 10 bucks out of 220.
I get that it's my fault. I forgot about the subscription but it was pretty rude to throw that comment my way like I was demanding anything or acted entitled. So this is just a warning to those of you who may want to get an account with Stamps.com for a single use that they'll talk you into staying and then you'll probably forget about it and have given hundreds of dollars to them for literally nothing. I paid for almost 4 years of a service to save 45c shipping on two packages.

I use the online help, most recently to find out if envelopes needed barcodes. Postage is so easy to print and I like to use the various sheets depicting holidays. Over the years I have sent in four requests for postage refunds and have received them; the guidelines are easy to follow. The codes help me kept track of postage per client so I can bill, if necessary. The $15.99 monthly fee is nothing compared to the gas and time I would have to spend going back and forth to the postage office. Stamps.com keeps me updated on postage rates and the scale weights. My only problem is gauging whether the package or envelope is over 1/4"! I even have postal pickup if my packages fit the postal guidelines. What more would you want!

On auto-pay this account pulled nearly $600 from me for an account I used maybe 3 times.
When I finally got thru to a rep, they said that they can issue no refunds, and I will receive a final bill for any unpaid months due to the attached card having expired. A 45 minute call involving a supervisor alongside mentioning the BBB and Consumer Affairs did finally get the service canceled and 6 months of prev. fees refunded. I haven't received any communication from them until this morning. I received an email stating that I owed $111.93. I immediately called them. They said that it had not been cancelled. I contested that it was less than 24 hours after opening. They cancelled my account and refunded me for the $15.99 I was just charged. First off, to everyone complaining about the monthly fee ($15.99 as of this review), do you ever read your emails? "The Stamps.com monthly service fee is just $15.99, including the first month." That is stated in your welcome email and clearly on their website as well. Overall though, the service is decent, you can print directly on the envelopes or onto standard mailing labels. You also have the option to print on tri-fold and bi-fold flyers as well as linking various e-commerce websites like eBay, Amazon, and Etsy. The cost is a little high if you use it for personal use, but they do give you $10 in free postage each month. Another thing to consider, if you just use Stamps.com for packages, you can buy postage from PayPal for no extra monthly fee and you receive the same discounts as Stamps.com. I would not recommend them for just shipping packages, but if you send a lot of letters, postcards, or flyers, you do save $0.03 on each.

Then one month later, I see a charge from stamps.com on my bank statement. Despite canceling my account they had somehow left it open and continued charging me. Upon canceling my account for the second time I get an email saying I will be charged even MORE for the partial month that I "used". Stamps.com is a deceitful and misleading company that cheats users for their corporate gain. Word of warning: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY because it's not just a monthly fee, it will continue even after you cancel your membership.

We ship all over the world using stamps.com and love it. I read reviews that said you can't get a refund on labels you make mistakes on, NOT TRUE. I have had to get refunds on 100's of dollars worth of purchased labels due to international customers changing their mind. When I first signed up, I knew exactly from the information I read that there was a free trial period and then 15$ a month after 3 months. Even with the $15 a month charge, we save more than that every month by using them instead of click and ship or especially going to the post office because of the volume we ship.
Every complaint I bothered to read about this company was due to their own ignorance on how it worked. Maybe when one wants to use a new service, they should read before committing and also read reviews to see if you are about to make the same mistake others made. I found that every one I read would have avoided what happened if they had bothered to be better informed. This is a really nice company and very easy to deal with.

I was surprised to find $15.99 charged to my Visa account on August 3 by Stamps.com. I promptly sent them and stated that I been "hacked." However, I just don't believe I entered a credit card number, etc. and finally hit the SUBMIT. (I suspect they have some devious way of trapping you once you begin perusing their page).
I stated in my email, which I mentioned above, to cancel my account and refund the $15.99. They said that since the account was valid the $15.99 was legit, but they cancel the account with no further charges. Today, I found on my previous credit card statements I had paid them (unknowingly since I usually don't look at the statements in detail) that they have been being paid for the $15.99 for the last 4 months. So, I have lost $63.96, but I hope it is all over.

Short story: Costs just as much as shipping with USPS directly. Postage printing didn't work for me. No real indication that you are signing up for an account. Lack of an actual reprint option (one-time reprint is just stupid). Long story: After I signed up, I attempted to print out a postage label. After selecting print I was taken to a print confirmation page, just indicating that the Stamps.com account was charged for the postage. The printer window never actually came up, so the postage was never even printed. Past that all you can do is request a refund for the postage, which I did, and you get the money refunded back to your account after some time, 5-7 business days.
Figuring that there may have been some issue with my laptop, I signed into my account from my desktop and attempted the same thing. Had to add more money into the account, which in my opinion is a little strange that they don't just charge the card per transaction like eBay or PayPal. Went to print the postage again, nothing. Noticed this time around that there is a tiny sliver of a window giving you the option to reprint. Reprint also didn't work, and you can only try to reprint the label a single time. There is no obvious indication that you are starting an account with them, from what I have been reading there is a sentence buried within the terms and conditions agreement that authorizes them to do this. Just an all around poor experience.

Like others have said, I realized I was getting charged monthly by STAMPS.com. I wonder if it really is worth it to them to operate in this manner, without even sending any type of email communications or even receipts in all the months I've been "subscribed" to them. It is quite sad and with all these reviews, they knowingly continue to do so and not change their practices. They did get a couple of months of charges on me, good for them. But they definitely will not get anymore, but hey it seems they are fine doing business that way.

While this appears to be a good service, beware of the monthly charge. You do not get an email confirmation about this, and if you missed it elsewhere they tell you about the guaranteed charge in the terms and conditions page. The THREE PAGE terms and conditions page that you acknowledge with a check box at the bottom of the page. Unlike most companies that will refund you if you realize this after the fact, this company does not. They feel that you were told in the terms and conditions, so you own the fee. No matter how fast you find it or if your history shows you using the service the charge is yours. So unless you want to be incredibly annoyed put a reminder on your personal calendar. It's not a huge amount of money, but from a principles standpoint it is super annoying and bad customer service.

Looking at my credit card statement I see that Stamps.com has been stealing $15.99 of my money the last two months. I check my email. Nothing. No receipt. I have to recover my username because I don't remember what it was. It shows I signed up for some membership plan. But still no receipt of when they are charging me. It's insane. The only issue I had with them is my account became inactive so I had to open a new one & they said they would start the free trial over but they didn't - that's not a huge deal to me though because I figured the customer service guy didn't know what he was talking about anyway. Beware Stamps.com scam. They lead you to believe you are signing up for a free info package and then without notice begin to bill your credit card for 15.99 a month. No receipt, invoice or notice is sent to your email notifying you that they are billing the card. The charges are hidden in a paragraph under where you put in the credit card info. You will only know of the charges if you happen to look at your bank statement outgoing charges. You pay $15.99 a month and then on top of that pay extra for their insurance services if you need to insure items that's often higher than the norm. You save maybe 10-5% off shipping but sometimes it's more than USPS. This is also not to forget the $15.99 on top of that. So really your savings with them are minimal per package. If you're not shipping out 10 packages plus a month with them where you'll break even with your return they're not worth it. They're hit or miss and can be expensive. The discounts aren't worth the price of admission.
Their billing is also quite annoying and random where they add on additional fees that you think were already included. I've had $5.75 as my balance for the longest but whatever postage I buy it's never deducted from that balance. It's just fully charged to my bank account. So I guess that's their game of making you think you have a balance but never being able to use it so you end up uploading money at their 10-15-20-25 dollar increments. They "WERE" good once but as of today...they're average prices on top of a monthly payment.

CONS: $15.99 a month fee AND you still have to buy postage. ONLY allowed to print 15 (I probably printed twice?) in a month....and you will get an error saying you have to upgrade and pay $25.99 a month if you wish to print further. Credit card replaced, and Stamps.com took 3 DAYS to accept/authorize new card. Could not print any more postage because of previous issue. Chose to cancel account, which initiated back to back emails about new store credit (which was mailed in a month ago) and a newsletter. Seems like the system is very slow. Refund requests for postage required 3 printed and signed forms, and the defective printed postage, which you have to mail in, which is redundant because where are you going to get postage from?
PRO: Sends you $20 postcards in Store credit with welcome pack. So when you cancel, you didn't spend much of your own money. CANCEL ACCOUNT option is available under manage account. I asked for a refund from email support and to cancel account and this was done...passive aggressively though ("well you know what you were signing up for, but..."). Would be ideal for agoraphobic individuals living in the middle of nowhere.

I went with 2 stars because I did print some stamps over the year I was subscribed. And the process was easy and worked well. What I was not happy with is that they don't make it clear you are going to be charged monthly and more importantly don't send out any kind of monthly email statement about your billing - THIS I find to be the most deceptive tactic. Had I seen an email saying I was getting charged, I would have cancelled sooner. Sure, I should have noticed the monthly charge, but I didn't, so I take some blame. Fortunately I was able to get them to credit me 4 months worth of charges. I felt this at least was better than nothing and a lesson learned.
Just be aware you are agreeing to a monthly charge and that they will never give you any notice that they are charging you. Only emails I ever got from them were when I purchase supplies or added funds for stamps. Seems this should be a law - a monthly paper statement or email of charges. If you print a lot of stamps, then it might be worth signing up for - it is easy to use and convenient, but for the average person, it's a total waste of money given the monthly charge. And when I did cancel, the email I got still indicated a number of services I could still use. So I'm not sure the monthly charge was ever needed for my use... In summary - buyer beware.

If you decide to keep the service they back bill you for that 30-day trial period. Be very careful if you do cancel during your trial to get a name, a confirmation number, and/or reference number because if you don't they will not cancel it and they will start billing you. When you call to get the billing issues corrected they will try everything in their power to keep your money. It takes a long wait of about 3 minutes to pull up one's account records, where I discovered I owe them an Account Fee of $367!!! I only used $25 the whole time I've tried it out. Wow... Be warned!!! Go with the USPS.com - they are honest and trustworthy.
I was hoodwinked into thinking that Stamps.com was a service where I purchased a little postage and used it when I needed. At no time did I understand that I was secretly being billed $15.99 every month - without ever receiving a single emailed bill notification. I see there are 400 similar complaints to mine at consumeraffairs.com - matching the same sense of outrage that Stamps.com has duped them and is quietly billing them every month for no services rendered and never producing any yearly notice that I was ever aware of.
I have requested a complete refund of the $367.77 which was I was charged without my knowledge. Stamps.com is only willing to refund 6 months of the hidden billing - which is NOT enough, so I will be writing the WA State Attorney General. This is fraudulent bait & switch tactics - where the consumer is led to believe that Stamps.com has something to do with the USPS and can therefore be trusted. Many of the people who complained to consumeraffairs.com shared my experience of thinking that this service was just like buying stamps. You buy some and let them sit in the drawer when you don't use them. But NOT SO, because you're being charged $15.99 every month. I notice that it is almost impossible to send any email questions to Stamps.com - which makes the consumer feel even more helpless. The help files are also all in tiny type and difficult to read.
My accountant thought the charges were just legitimate business expenses for a service... But they weren't. There was no service at all. The law of the land should be more transparent - not cloaked in deceit. But this is a matter for the Attorney general to decide. I would think eventually a class action lawsuit will set things right. Feel free to pass on my experiences to anyone who does lots of mailing.

I told her that we had simply decided to cancel, that I would appreciate not going through those details today and would very much appreciate her helping me cancel it as fast as possible. She told me that she was 'just passing the time while her system processed the cancelation' and continued to ask me how I posted letters and shipped parcels.
I then explained that we were canceling because we would be out of town for an extended period due to a family bereavement. I did not want to have to explain that to a stranger - but it felt like the fastest way to resolve it. I asked her again to please just help me cancel the account. I explained that I did not want to talk about postage or shipping and that even if she was just passing the time that I would rather do it in silence. She explained again that she was 'just passing the time while her system processed the cancelation' and continued to ask me how I posted letters and shipped parcels. Even I struggled to believe this has happened, and I was actually present. I finally asked her if she had heard what I had told her. She paused, I repeated my situation to her, and then she confirmed that she had heard me.
I then asked her whether, if she had been in my situation, she would want to discuss postage at this time. She said no. I told her that if she was ever in my situation that I sincerely hoped that customer service representatives would treated her in a more respectful manner. I will not ever do business with this company in the future. In part because their product does not seem to have any function/benefit and after reading the reviews on this site, their billing practices appear to be suspect. However, even if their product was excellent, I will never be a customer. It is extremely dangerous to encourage companies that treat their customers like objects, whose sole existence is to have revenue extracted from them.
That "sales driven" culture drives behaviors such as the 'backhanded' billing practices regarding monthly subscriptions that I have read in the other complaints. It also created the situation I experienced - where an employee drives so hard to 'close the deal' that they cannot hear when their customer - another human being - explains that they don't wish to hear a sales pitch that day because they've had a death in the family. Shame on you, Stamps.com
