Stamps.com charged my credit card a month fee even though I have never used their service or products. I tried to call their 800 number to find out what this was about but they are always out of the office. Their actions caused me to shut down my credit card. Do not ever use this service. Does anyone know legal authorities should be notified in this case?

As an internet merchant, shipping costs are my main expense behind inventory. So, I decided to give Stamps.com a shot. I was treated to a number of months of no fees. I then had a problem printing postage and I was given an immediate credit for my funds that were also refunded by USPS. They are available for support when you call or email and always are concerned with your issues. I have seen other sites that are cheaper, but I have well-won loyalty to this company for my shipping/mailing needs. Great company.

Signed up to ship a package because the website my credit card information would not be used (unless I made a purchase). Did you use it? Then found that I was charged a monthly fee. Did not know that it was a trial and there would be a recurring fee. Called to cancel right after I saw the charge on my credit card. Zoe said that I would be charged the full amount to go through the next billing cycle. I couldn't believe it! Then she offered to prorate the fee. I didn't use them because they don't offer any more than USPS.com. DON'T ENTER YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER unless you plan to use their services.

CALL YOUR BANK IF YOU WANT YOUR MONEY BACK!!! Here is my story: I ordered a free kit from Stamps.com. We chose Paypal at least and have no idea those clown started to charge me $15.99 every month for the past few months. When I finally noticed those nonsense charge, I tried to call the number they left in the description of my bank balance. Of course the number they left is not real! Then I searched Stamps.com customer services number and no one answered in half hour!
I called my bank immediately and talked to a customer services. The bank customer services connected to Stamps.com customer services in THREE SECONDS! The whole conversation with Stamps.com customer service was how I misunderstood their policy and it was all my fault. It was three party phone call. So I told my bank that I never agreed to do any business with Stamps.com and I never received any of their information or receipt about this nonsense $15.99 monthly fee.
Then the funny thing happened! Stamps.com customer services said they actually sent the $15.99 monthly plan to my email and they sent the copy to my email "again" in just 1 second. I sign up on stamps.com on Apr 26 and I still have their welcome email in my mail box the same date. But according to their so called "copy," that copied email was SENT on Apr 25! I DID NOT EVEN SIGNED UP ON STAMPS.COM ON APR 25!!!
The rest part was just endless argue with Stamps.com and the bank customer services made a nice decision. Stamps.com agreed to refund the last month charge and my bank offered the rest of the money as credit. My advice is: 1. Stay away from Stamps.com. 2. If unfortunately you are already charged monthly, call your bank and make a fraud claim. I AM PRETTY SURE WITH ALL OUR EFFORTS, STAMPS.COM WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS VERY SOON!

I tried Stamps.com because of an offer for a free trial and because they sponsor a popular Podcast I listen to. I gave them my credit card because it was required to try the service. I realized that Stamps.com doesn't offer any service beyond what the United States Postal Service already offers through their website: USPS.GOV, and I stopped using the service.
Several months later, I received a notice in the mail that I owed Stamps.com over $50 for monthly fees because they could not charge my credit card. When I signed up for the service, there was no notification that I would be signing up for a reoccurring monthly fee. When I called them, I kept being told by their representatives that this was a legitimate charge that I would have to pay. This company imposes a monthly fee that it does not clearly tell customers about. Stamps.com is engaging in deceptive and underhanded practices from my experience, and I have heard similar stories from hundreds of other people online who have tried the service.

I purchased Stamps one time and never signed up for any plan with them. They ended up automatically signing me up for a $15.99 a month plan that I never agreed to. They didn't even send me an email saying that I signed up for it. Terrible company that shouldn't be able to do that. I hope this company goes out of business so they don't randomly sign people up for monthly payments.

I was going to write a review based on my experience using the Stamps.com web site. However, when reading the complaints I found that I would be charge $15.99 a month for this service. This is in addition to the postage fees. The software is easy to use, but was unaware of the monthly fee. I called the telephone number listed on the web site to cancel my subscription and it was easy to decline any offers they present to you. I am glad I went to the ConsumerAffairs web site for this information.

Family member thought she was signing up for a $5 trial. With no invoice, email, or other notice, they billed credit card for $15.99, which I caught only because I was reviewing cc activity online. When I called to complain, I was told that the charge was scheduled to run monthly indefinitely and no refund was possible. Same answer from VISA since the cc number had been entered correctly. Read on, there are many similar complaints against this company. Avoid at all costs.

As most people here, stamps.com has been charging me $15 per month without my knowledge. They do not make it clear that they will be charging you $15 every month. They do not notify you when they charge you. Many people have complained about it, but they do not plan to fix it, because it's free money for them. They are fraudulent. Someone at stamps.com has a parking lot reserved for them at hell.

I just noticed on my credit card statement that I had a charge of $15.99 for Stamps.com which I wasn't aware of. I signed up in Feb 2016 and apparently was charged March thru August $15.99/month (total $95.94) and I never noticed this before. No emails were sent to me about these charges. Apparently when I signed up I inadvertently signed up for the Pro Plan and I didn't read the fine print. So just be wary of signing up. I called Customer Support to close the account and try to get a refund. The wait time is very long. I did get one refund in the amount of $14.91.
Finally after a long wait of listening to music, I got a hold of a supervisor (Cassandra **, Customer Relations Supervisor) and explained that I wasn't aware I was being charged $15.99/month for six months. She put me on hold again, more music, and she got back to me and said she would make an exception for me and give me $47.97 credit making a total credit of $62.88. So Stamps.com still got $33.06 plus the initial $5 for the welcome kit. Stamps.com is very tricky. Be sure to read the fine print. The total call time was 53 minutes to close the account and get a partial refund.

I work from 2:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., so if I need stamps to send a letter, getting to the post office is difficult. I signed up for Stamps.com thinking I could buy a stamp occasionally and print it out. Nowhere did it say that I would be charged $15.99 a month. I just happened to see it on my credit card statement. Luckily I caught it before I was charged for additional months. I went to cancel my account on a Friday at 7:00 p.m. and found that I couldn't do it online but that I had to call the company and do it. That meant that I had to wait until I had a day off so I could call them during their business hours. This place is sneaky. After I signed up I found that I needed special paper to print out a stamp and that it would be in my welcome kit that I wouldn't get for another week.

After my account went dormant for over a year, Stamps.com merrily continued charging an atrocious monthly fee of $15.99 without any notification. I traveling, living abroad, with finances in flux throughout that time, but where other services notified me of continued service payments, Stamps.com was happy to stay mum despite zero account activity. The argument that I was forewarned of this is just an excuse for predatory and underhanded business tactics. I feel bilked and exploited; do not trust this company to be transparent.

I signed up for Stamps.com on a trial basis. What I didn't see buried in the fine print was that there would be a monthly service charge of $15.99. Ok, my bad for missing it. But trying to quit? So very difficult. I never could get a customer service rep on the line and there is no online way to leave the program. I finally had to just block future charges on my credit card. I signed up for a free trial and never used the service. I never received confirmation or email correspondence regarding any charges I would receive, so didn't think that I was being charged. I actually forgot I ever signed up, but that was a huge mistake as I reviewed my bank statements to the tune of 7 months of charges ($15.99/each) or $111.93. This kind of marketing online is irresponsible of any good business, but I can't say that this business even scratches the surface of being good as they make it virtually impossible to set up the service in the first place. I will never do "business" with this company again!

I signed up with STAMPS.COM as I thought it would be a convenient way to get stamps and print stamps. I thought what a great service by the postal service. Let's be honest. I only wanted it for the rare time I needed a single stamp. Before realizing that my credit card was charged the first month of $15.99, I had only purchased two stamps in 1.5 months! No email notification was ever received to tell me that my credit card had been charged. No mention of the monthly charge in any of the advertising.
I was told it was detailed in the fine print of the Terms and Conditions. It was just a big SCAM. I called STAMPS.COM to cancel my account, as I didn't want to keep paying this ridiculous fee. The end result was that the account was cancelled, but not before they took another $15.99. So for two 48 cent stamps, I paid $32.00. This is why we need government regulation to protect consumers from predator businesses like this. This is nothing but theft. I was not issued with any receipts to upload.

I see you have an option to "submit a receipt". You are not going to get that from Stamps.com! I signed up for a free trial and thought I canceled it, because I never received any receipt or email acknowledgement of the monthly debits to my credit card. The service was too difficult to use. I had to download software and couldn't use it online. Also, there was no email of any account that I created. It looked like I was canceled because they were only quietly taking money out of my account and didn't even tell me after it was done.
I recently noticed a $15.99 transaction for a whole year! Tax came and gone and I didn't even count their services because I received no invoice or receipt. Had I received anything, I wouldn't have allowed this to continue. This must be how they make their real money! Avoid free trial, their service sucks anyways. Now I have to call my credit card company and deal with Stamps.com for year of monthly robbery.

Upon signing up, you are asked for your credit card info. Exact words: "Postage Account Credit Card Authorization" followed by slightly smaller text saying "Required to purchase postage." So, does this mean that you are entering your card info so that you can authorize future postage purchases? NO. If you scroll BACK UP and look to the right, the information regarding the fact that you are signing up for a "free trial" and will be charged 16/month just to have an account is revealed in a cluttered up little paragraph. OR you can find it under terms and conditions, which you assume are for signing up for an account, not for making a purchase... as is their intent.
I was called and demanded a full refund, was offered partial then sent to a supervisor. It took longer than it should have to get a supervisor and I was "accidentally" redirected to the wrong line, doubling my wait. After a lot of trying to put the blame on me I did receive a full refund. It is obvious that they continue to deceive customers because it is more profitable to trick people into a plan and refund those who are assertive enough to demand it than it would be to adopt ethical practices that include ensuring consumer awareness. Not our intent my tush... after 500+ complaints to the BBB, if you haven't fixed your poor document design for clarity it is because you don't want to be clear. Period. Stay away, and if you fell for it demand a refund.

Same thing happened to me that's already been said here. It's pretty sad that when you type "mailing labels" into Google, this is one of the 1st links to come up. I didn't sign up for their services or order anything. Received an email a couple weeks ago from them saying there was an issue with my payment. "Uhhh, what payment?" Anyway, wasn't worried about it because I had received a new bank card that they definitely didn't have access to (since I had to update all my other, legit, online payments).
Today I was charged twice. My main concern is how did they even get my new bank card info??? I called them to ask to have all my info removed as I never signed up for their services and all I got in return was a pushy salesman trying to get me to sign up for other services at a "discounted" rate. Luckily, my bank is taking care of the fraudulent charges. And I have requested my bank to deny authorization for any other charges from Stamps.com. As others before me have stated, do not use Stamps.com!

I also signed up and had no knowledge of a free trial. I saw nowhere that it said I was signing up for that and nowhere did it state plans to choose from. I put my credit card info in initially anyway because I thought I could just buy a book of stamps and be done. I thought this is a good alternative to the USPS website because lately I've tried to buy stamps on there but they charge me and I get no stamps in the mail. But this is just for printing postage and all that more complicated stuff. Stuff mostly for business use. Not for me. So I got charged 15.99 for the basic plan and then called them today. I got the automated service and canceled it. So I hope they do send a confirmation email and they do cancel it and I won't be charge next month.

Stamps.com has been charging my credit card $15.99/month since November of 2014. I never signed up for the premium service. I tried purchasing a stamp and scale from them back in November of 2014 and they require sending out a scale and stamp templates (at a nominal fee) in the mail in order to be able to purchase stamps from them.
I received the scale in the mail and am pretty sure when I installed the software required to use the scale it put me into a monthly service contract using the credit card info I entered to get the scale. I did not end up using the service as it was expensive. I received no email confirmation that I would be charged from then on out nor was even notified on my computer screen of such when installing the software. If I was notified it was either very small print or deceptive in its delivery.
I called them and expressed my concern and told them that their monthly service contract seems very deceptive as all monthly contracts I have with other service companies send out email confirmations prior to charging me. After my request being escalated to a supervisor I was able to get them to refund 2 months worth of fees. I then called my credit card company requesting to dispute the rest of the fees and they said they only keep 2 months of records for such and stamps.com is aware of this hence their 2 month refund.
I received NO correspondence from Stamps.com since my initial service attempt with them back in November of 2014. Very deceptive company, consumers need to take care when working with stamps.com. I will never use nor recommend their services to anyone. Unfortunately I do not have a receipt from the initial transaction with them which is very strange as I run a small business and keep ALL receipts (digital or paper). I get the feeling no receipt was ever delivered to me. I do have an email I received from them today offering me a free month's worth of services as I called them to cancel my service. I have attached that to this complaint hoping it further validates the dishonest and shady serving the company offers to consumers.

Home address, check. Full credit card number. Woah, wait a minute. I'm not giving that out over the phone, sorry. Only other option was to verify info via email. Cool, send it to me. Get the email. Now they're not only asking for my credit card number, but a scan of the front AND back of my card, as well as a scan of either my driver's license or passport. WTH? What is this, Fort Knox? I canceled my account in March when my computer crashed and I could no longer use the service. I just checked my July credit card statement and found that instead of canceling the account they had created a second account and were billing me for two accounts. I looked back and Stamps.com had double billed me since April and there should have been no bill at all. I signed up for a free trial and, without my consent, was charged a monthly fee of $15.99. The only reason my credit card was on file was because I intended to buy postage outright during my trial, not to sign up for a subscription. Not only that, but when I called to cancel, the service was automated and tried to offer me other rates. NO. Then it informed me that I would still be charged for that month since they have an end-of-month billing cycle. You have got to be kidding me. As did many others, I signed up for Stamps.com with the understanding that I would pay for the postage I purchased and nothing else. I was unable to get the free stamps to print (another frustration), so I set the account aside. Before I realized what had happened, my credit card was charged for $31.98 for "monthly fees" for two months. This is more than I spend on postage in 6-9 months. And the free stamps credit is now gone.
This information is not at all clear in the sign-up process. It is obviously purposely hidden to deceive people into a high priced service. For personal use or small business/non-profit use, it is insane to spend almost $200 a year just so you don't have to go to the post office to pick up stamps every so often. Customer service eventually agreed to re-credit my account for the $5 stamps credit but encouraged me more than once to keep the account, even after I clearly explained multiple times that it costs many times what I even spend on postage.

Let me first state that I was very aggravated when I was hit by a 16 dollar automatic charge that was very sneakily put in. I was very close to cancelling when I realized its actually pretty convenient. Now I use it for shipping cards on eBay that range in value so it might be simply because of that in the reason I like it. The USPS destroyed about 25 percent of my packages and drove my eBay account into bad standing, and now Stamps.com is a must. It enables me to affordably keep accountability and prove that my items are sent to the buyers. It also allows me to insure a letter, unlike USPS. Lastly, it makes it very efficient to mail things out as it automatically imports orders from eBay, leaves feedback stating the item was shipped, and in the long run, give my account a good standing once again.
For me, 16 bucks a month is worth it because for the number of items I ship, it pays itself off. I hated the surprise however and for a normal everyday user of shipping a few things a month, probably not worth the buy.

I have audio logs verifying the harassment, when in fact this day of 21st Day of May I made specific mention to Stamps.com not to contact me in any way or I would contact the Attorney General for the State of Rhode Island. I received four additional calls from Stamps.com in which the line was disconnected. Our line is monitored, so in fact we knew the exchange was from Stamps.com.
We would strongly advise everyone to avoid Stamps.com for any postage purposes. Stamps.com is merely an outfit seeking to exploit the unsuspecting in promising money saving features which do not exist. More so, Stamps.com is just a boiler room of phone personnel trying to sell a service which cannot provide any real savings. If any were to take the policies of Stamps.com to any lawyer capable of recognizing the addendums written within the policy of Stamps.com, they would advise all to stay clear of the sly undertakings of Stamps.com. We have audio logs which can corroborate our findings and shall take action in the future. As of now, we are documenting this with Consumer Affairs as reference.

They sent me the requisite package of starter stuff, and I decided I did not want to participate so I just threw all the stuff (including the imprintable stamps - which were supposed to be 'free'). The following month I noticed an auto withdrawal from my household bank account which I did not authorize. When I called to check into this, the rep was very nice, and agreed to ask his boss if we can just forget this whole thing. They did not, and just last week, tried to withdraw another amount from my checking account. If I had not called my bank straight away, I'd be stuck for over $30 in fees that I did not incur.

There are many red flags with the site. For one, why do you have to add at least 10.00 dollars to your "account" when other companies do not. Because of that when you cancel, your money is now no longer usable. Second, you can sign up easily online but when you cancel you have to call a representative? What is this the 18th century... I mean come on... It's a ploy to make you talk to some representative to try to keep you on the service. Finally that little sneaky monthly fee... 16.00 dollars a month??? After 4 months I had been charged over $63 even though I had not ever printed stamps. I didn't even print the free ones, but I can't print them now since they closed my account. I purchased some stamps from Stamps.com in August, 2012. At the time, I had no expectation based on the purchase experience that I would end up "enrolled" in their "Pro" plan... I thought I was just buying some stamps. Last night, over 2 years later, I noticed that they've been charging my $15.99 per month since then, and for what? What on earth was I getting for $15.99 per month from a stamp business? I Googled them and found an abundance of other angry, misled, scammed customers.
Sure, there was likely some fine print about auto-enrollment or something, but I consider myself to be of above average intelligence (Masters degree), and a sophisticated user of web products (Computer Science degree and an internet Product Manager for the past 7 years) and I had ZERO expectation that I would be enrolled in some kind of plan. I just wanted some stamps (like I'm sure 99% of their customers did too).
In addition to how easy it was to become ensnared in this scam, it is quite difficult to get OUT of it. On their website you cannot cancel your "plan", you can only upgrade to more expensive plans. You cannot delete your account or remove your credit card information either. You have to dig in their help system to ASK them how to cancel your account (which I did, and am still waiting for a response). If it looks like a scam, smells like a scam, and has an abundance of other former customers calling it a scam--- then it IS a scam.
I don't care if they put a couple of buried words somewhere in the bottom of an email or on the checkout page- that does NOT meet the standard of "reasonable affordance" for customers to be aware of what they are getting into. If Stamps.com believes they have done nothing wrong, then I imagine they will agree to return the 25+ months of fees they have been charging me as I did not receive any "benefit" in return for those fees and they were therefore unearned. That's what a first-class business would do. We shall see. Update: they have reached out and offered 6 months of fee returned. Not gonna cut it.

I heard about Stamps.com in a variety of podcasts that I trust, so I signed up for their service on March 25th, 2013 thinking I may use them for my eBay transactions. I ended up never using the service as I found eBay's built-in mailing tools to be sufficient. On April 24th, 2015, I received an email stating that Stamps.com failed to charge my account $15.99. As I had just received an email from my credit card company stating that my card was showing fraudulent behavior, I sent an email to Stamps.com for clarification via their website the same day. I received no response.
On April 28th, 2015, I received another email stating that Stamps.com failed to charge my account $15.99. This led to my own more in-depth investigation, and I found that I had been signed up for a recurring $15.99 charge every month (after the first month) when I signed up back on March 25th, 2013. Over the last two years, they had charged me, without my intent or knowledge: $383.76.
The issue here isn't that they have a monthly fee, it is that Stamps.com takes strides to hide it from you and keep you paying. Here are the reasons I find this approach particularly predatory: Nowhere in the podcast adverts do they reference a monthly fee. Nowhere on their website during signing up did I see a reference to a monthly fee. I never received any receipt of any charge from Stamps.com. You cannot even sign up for email notifications of charges from Stamps.com. I never received any email from Stamps.com that suggested I was using a monthly service. You can sign up for this service on their website, but you cannot cancel the service. You must call them and be placed through a long hold line in order to do so. You cannot remove a credit card from your account online, only put in one with invalid information.
The one place I have found any reference to this monthly fee is deep within a "welcome email" I received from them on March 25th, 2013. This is the only thing that transforms their behavior into deception instead of straight-up theft. I called the support line, and after talking with supervisor "**", I had my account closed. And he offered to refund $31.98 of the $383.76, which is how I got to the total of $351.78. They were not willing to refund any additional amount of the disputed charges. The refund of $31.98 proves that they acknowledge their nefarious behavior. If I was entitled for 2 months of a refund, what makes the other 1 year and 10 months sacrosanct?
This behavior is akin to Apple charging not just for downloads in iTunes, but for access to those downloads via a monthly fee. Now picture that the reference to this monthly charge is hidden in their massive Terms & Services agreement, and then Apple never sends you a receipt about the monthly charges. It is up to you to notice this small charge on your credit card statement every month. Stamps.com tries very hard to come across as a pay-per-usage service instead of a subscription service so they can silently charge monthly fees. If they wish to regain any trust, they should be upfront with their charges and attempt to actually help their customers with their deliveries. Until they improve this experience, they should refund the money they have taken from those who have gained no value from their service in order to garner trust from the market.

I wish to relate incidents of DECEPTIVE MARKETING PRACTICES that have been committed against me by Stamps.com in 2013. This company had been charging my credit card $15.99 each for 2 accounts they say I had opened up June 28, 2013 and July 3, 2013 for a total of $32.98 every month for the past 12 months. I called them immediately to question this, since I have never used the "service". The company never notified me that I was being billed and was not using these accounts. I was told by the supervisor, ** , that Stamps.com would not refund the full amount of $352 that was charged to my credit card but that they would refund $63.96. I stated that this was not fair and that I wanted a full refund of my money. The supervisor said that he could not do this.
These incorrect charges apparently originated from the times that I did go online to their site in June and July of last year to check out their postage rates for sending a certified piece of mail. In order to check out their services they required that I sign up for a free account for a trial period. The deceptive part comes into play in that their online ad language implied that the trial account was free. There was no easily visible posting of a statement on their site saying that they would begin charging my account after a 4 week period of time. After going online today and researching what others might be saying about this company I discovered that the statement saying that they would begin charging your account after 4 weeks was contained in a cleverly concealed button which had to be clicked on in order to see the fine print stating that you are going to be charged $15.99.
I believe that their actions are illegal. Their website is intentionally deceptive and is designed to mislead so that Stamps.com can dishonestly obtain money from unsuspecting people's bank accounts. I contacted the Federal Trade Commission about this company's scam operation but never received a reply from them. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in their county in their home state and the BBB did absolutely nothing in regard to requiring the company to answer for their deceptive business practices. BBB and Federal Trade Commission---both useless!

I used the site to buy stamps for Christmas cards once in 2012. My husband let me use his credit card to make the purchase. My husband just realized they have charged us 15.99 every month for 3 years for a membership fee. I didn't ever read my husband's credit card statements. He assumed they were giving me monthly stamps. I never wittingly signed up for a membership. We are trying to get our money back now with the help of our credit card company because we never received anything from them after the initial stamps.

Nowhere in their promotional offers do they mention a monthly fee that they then make EXTREMELY difficult to cancel. The "free promotional postage" they claim to offer requires you to cycle through 30 days (for half of it) to ensure you pay them their fee. Yes, it's buried in the fine print, but you actually have to click around for it - nowhere in the account origination do they spell out that you are signing up for a subscription service.
Customer service is rude. They force you to call to cancel then someone rambles through retention scripts without listening. It amazes me that the USPS would stand by these criminals.

They do not tell you that you are automatically set up to pay monthly. When I called to cancel they said I may be billed again. This company is definitely a scam.

I would be happy to join a class-action suit against them.

We started noticing a $15.99 charge on our credit card from stamps.com. We have never heard of or used stamps.com. I do recall using the usps web site for postage and somehow stamps.com was able to mirror my input into the usps site - even my credit card number - and started billing me the $15.99 a month. I had to cancel my credit card with the credit card company which is a pain. After sending them a to-the-point email telling them to cancel my account they have emailed and called with apologies which must be part of their scam. They figure you will not report them to the authorities if they are nice. Watch out for these **.

It tricked me into a free trial that apparently stated that I would have to automatically start paying a membership fee THAT WAS NOT CLEARLY STATED. I received a $30 plus bill that I was forced to pay even though I had no idea they had started trying to charge me. I'm so furious at this site and I recommend no one ever, ever tries to use it. I found these $15.99 charges going back to July 2014. Googled to see if anyone else had the same problem and...well...by looking here you know the answer to that. However, my outcome was different, though it started the same as reported by others here. Call up Stamps.com, complain about the charges, they offer to waive the current month and say they can't do any more than that because, they insist, "the charges are valid because the $15.99 monthly charge was clear and it's YOUR fault you didn't see it." I threatened legal action and demanded to speak with a supervisor.
The supervisor put me on hold and came back with a counter offer of 3 months' worth of refunds. I told her that was not sufficient and that legal action would still be taken unless ALL charges were refunded. I was put on hold again. When she came back, her new offer was for 6 months of refunds/$95.94. Was this in addition to the current month being waived? "Yes." So that was 7 out of 8 months being refunded. I could have taken this offer and considered it a victory (after all, 6 months more than what they originally said they would refund and what most people here seem to succeed in getting) but... I still said no.
All months refunded. Or legal action. "You're only one month shy of giving me what I'm asking for and avoiding trouble," I said. I was put on hold one last time and when the supervisor returned she informed they would refund all the charges. Lesson: when dealing with scam artists like this, you just have to be firm, a tad threatening but professionally so, and sound like the type of person who retains a lawyer for things like this, even if you're not. Deep down, they know they're in the wrong, and if you push them hard enough they will cave.

Last year I needed to mail a package and did not have physical stamps at hand, so I used the service at Stamps.com. The sign up process highlighted that the membership is free but made it very unclear (and it completely slipped my eyes) that is only free for 4 weeks. Then, after 4 weeks, it started to SILENTLY charge $15.99 to my credit card every month.
The website gave me absolutely ZERO NOTIFICATION that it is charging my credit card except that on the first day of sign up, the system sent an email entitled "Welcome to Stamps.com" where one sentence out of the entire 870-word long email indicated that there will be a charge later -- of course that sentence slipped my eyes too. I did not realize this monthly charge until many months later when I looked through my credit card history carefully. This is as close to a fraud as it can be.
Then I tried to cancel it and get my money back. And I found that Stamps.com has made a system that makes it ridiculously hard to get the money back. When I called their customer service for cancellation, it always go to automatic voice system which only allowed cancellation with zero refund. On the phone I had to pretend that I am a new customer in order to reach a real customer service person that I can talk to. Even so, I had to transfer 3 times, talking to 4 different customer service people, each time retelling the entire story from scratch, in order to get to somebody who can actually do something about refund. Still, that person kept trying to offer me all kinds of unrelated deals instead of a refund, and refusing to admit any fault in Stamps.com.
In the end, I only got a partial refund for the last three months of membership charge -- after wasting more than one hour on the phone. This was a complete disaster.

If you are a small business, this is a great set up. If you mail out a lot of mail and want personalized stamps and due to your volume of mail per week, month then this is a good thing. However, if you do not use that much in stamps per month then the lowest charge on your CCard will be $15.99. The number to call (automated) to cancel is 1-855-608-2677. It is recognized if you are calling from the same phone number that you created the account with. Just follow the instructions. They will also offer a lower monthly charge of $9.99 or $120 per year as an alternative to cancelling altogether. For me, I don't use that amount of postage, and the charges don't warrant the service.

My experience is very similar to Julie's. I received an offer of 9 free printable postage stamps in the mail in December. From the look of the mailing with USPS printed on it, I thought this was a part of the actual "USPS" instead of a "partner" (whatever that is). NOWHERE on the printed material did it mention a monthly fee. I followed the directions to download the software & was unsuccessful so I never was able to print my "9 free stamps". Like the others who've commented, I had no idea I was signed up for a monthly fee...none! Since I never completed downloading the software & was not able to print a single stamp, I didn't give it another thought (but I was later glad that I had saved the offer I had received).
In December, I had incurred some costly auto repair charges on my credit card, otherwise, I never carry a balance. In February, I paid off my credit card. A week after that, I see a $15.99 charge from Stamps.com! I couldn't believe my eyes! I called them & during the conversation, I found I had been billed in January, too, but I had never noticed! I explained to the woman who answered that I was not able to download the software & never even got my 9 "free" stamps & now I was charged $31.98 for nothing! She also tried to tell me how wonderful Stamps.com is & I said "I don't want it!” I had just gone to the post office & purchased a book of stamps that will last me more than a year. I said “I could see how it could possibly be good for a home business involving lots of mailings, but never for personal use.” She told me I would have read it in the stuff they sent in the download instructions online.
Like others on this site, I felt like a fool because I'm usually so careful about this kind of thing. She finally got a supervisor on the line (Nicki) who told me she would cancel my account (gave me a transaction #). After arguing with her for 5 minutes about the previous billings to my cc, she agreed to refund the February charge. I also contacted my bank to dispute the Feb charge. 2 days later, I saw that the Feb charge had been refunded & I got 2 emails confirming the Stamps.com acct cancellation and the refund for February. So, I'm still stuck with $15.99 January charge for absolutely nothing. I told Nicki that this was a bait & switch & the mailed offer should have explained the $15.99 monthly charge. I now know I can't trust them, but I gave them 2 stars because they did give me one refund & cancelled the account & they were not rude to me on the phone.

I am heavy into stamps and mailers. I would say I spend about 3-500 a month in mailers. If you print a stamp using their printer and for what ever reason the printer does not print out each stamp. You get charged for the stamp and you have to send in a blank sticker to show you never printed the stamp. But instead of getting a refund, you just get the charge. So if you print out 20 stamps and only 3 actually print which is rather common. You are easily losing 8.33. Mind you, I would probably mail about 1,100 pieces a month. Do the math of the cost per year and the time this takes.

Since it seemed legitimate, I signed up for the "free" welcome package because I thought it would be nice to be able to print stamps at home when I need them (which isn't very frequently). Unfortunately, I did not read the entire 5-page email that Stamps.com sent to me saying that after the "4-week trial period" they would charge me $15.99 per month for the service. Of course, $15.99 for the service is outrageous, given that I only use postage infrequently. When I saw the charge on my credit card, I called Stamps.com. At first they said they could not refund any charges, but then agreed to waive the fee to close my account (how nice of them...).
So I asked to speak to a supervisor. After telling her that I thought the charges were misrepresented and that I would be contacting USPS, Consumer Affairs, and my credit card company, she reluctantly agreed to refund the charges and close my account. I have not yet received a refund and she only gave me her first name (Nikki), so I guess all I can do is wait and hope that my money is refunded. While Stamps.com may be a good deal for a business that uses a lot of postage, it does not make sense for an individual. The charges and fees should be stated upfront so there are no surprises. Legitimate businesses would not have to hide charges. I am very frustrated that I had to spend time straightening this out for something that was represented as "free".

Several weeks later, I was notified that my card was charged $15.99 from stamps.com and would be every month henceforth. Somewhere, in creating a required log in to purchase just one stamp, I was signed up for a monthly fee.
I'm not novice to technology or signing up for services online, and I saw no indication of signing up for a monthly subscription unlike other instances in which I have utilized free trials I was on notice of. As an aside, I even more so can't imagine how unfair this would be for someone more elderly, for instance who is unfamiliar with internet services or who doesn't keep as close a watch on their charges. I called as soon as their service lines opened because I wanted to cancel and hopefully have my money refunded since it was just a few hours since I had been charged. You CANNOT cancel online, which is absurd, especially considering that their open call hours aren't great.
I waited 30 minutes before my call was even answered, and the representative was rude and unresponsive. I told him I wanted to cancel and this was incredibly difficult to get him to comply with. Several times, he pretended to agree and proceeded to discuss how he was going to sign me up for more trials, which I repeatedly had to stop him from doing so that I wouldn't find myself in this position again in the future. He also would not refund the fee. Terrible customer service. The preceding service itself borders on a scam. First time I've been so compelled to sign up to write a review of a company. From the website you have to create an account that requires a credit card and signs you up for an account with a monthly fee of $15.99 & that doesn't include the actual cost of printing any stamps. Well I guess you do get 9 free stamps.
But wait, there is even a better offer on stamps.com main website. You can get $5 free postage on signup by just paying $15.99 to create an account. Oh wait, even better you get $40 in free postage, well provided you stay with the service for 4 months at $15.99 a month or $63.96 service fees that you pay for that free $40 in stamps. So basically if you are a member of Stamps.com you pay $15.99 a month and then if you want to print stamps, with your own printer, and your own ink, and pay for the value of the stamps you print then you are better off than just buying a book of stamps, HOW?

This site is essentially one giant Scam masquerading as an online stamp selling website. If there was a way to recommend USPS to shut down this site I'd do it right now. Here's my experience with this site, which should give you some idea of the reason behind my frustration.
For more than 2 years (starting Sep 2012), stamps.com has been charging me $15 every month. I didn't even know what this site does or stands for till I noticed the amount in my Nov 2014 credit card statement. I called up my card company and asked them to put a hold on this seller. Then I started receiving emails mentioning non-payment of service fee. Their office hours for calling are also very restricted but I finally got some time and called them to close my account and refund my money. After being transferred from a rep to a supervisor, and both confirming that I've never used the service EVER, all I was given was a 1 month waiver. Can you believe their response - "Yes we realize you didn't use the service for 2 years and yes we realize someone might've signed you up based on a Stamps.com Google ad (where we show up first and trick people into this scam Wink! Wink!), but I can only give you one month off as credit. Thank you and bye bye!"
I hope USPS takes notice of this giant scam and cancels their license. They have no way for people to close the account without calling them at their very restricted work-hours and for people with busy schedules and long credit card bills, they are essentially abusing their relationship with USPS to trick customers into this Scam. My sympathies for anyone who also feels cheated and mugged by this giant scam of a site.

Once they have your credit card info, it is off to the races to see how many times they can charge your account. When confronted, they act stupid as to why you're being charged and refuse to erase your personal info from their system. I would advise against using Stamps.com as there are other services that offer the same shipping solutions for FREE.

I was (operative word being WAS) a long time customer of this service. Had what appeared to be a minor technical issue, which turned into a situation that severely hurt my business. The customer support is horrible, to say it nicely. Rude, antagonistic and absolutely unprofessional. The service is absolutely the worst - and if you have a problem, there will be no assistance. Printed the same labels 3, 4 and 5 times, causing us to ship buyers multiple orders unknowingly. Denied any wrongdoing - said they're "looking into the issue, but there are issues that are more severe than yours that take precedence." Admitting, basically, their program is nothing but a problem. We were double, triple and more for postage, sent multiple items to customers due to their errors and issues.
This program should not be on the market. No doubt they are having their own employees leaving stellar feedback comments. The program is unstable, does not do what it says it will do, and adversely has affected my business financially. I have been in my office for the past 2 days, unable to leave, attempting to correct and adjust all of the errors that have been caused by this software during the busiest time of the year. There are multiple complaints about this company, and they should all be taken seriously.

I basically had the exact same problem as the user above - When I signed up for their "free" account to receive the bonuses advertised, it was not clearly specified anywhere that there was a monthly fee. It was there, hidden in the fine print, but I did not see it. Once the "trial period" expires and you start getting charged, did they send a notification email letting you know? No, of course not. Also, they purposely charge your credit card at the END of each month, so that once all the suckers that didn't know there was a monthly fee see it on their credit card and try to cancel, they have already begun their second month, and will get charged for that month, as well.
Also, you are not able to cancel your account online or through the software. You must call to cancel. Also, once you call to cancel, they give you an offer to switch to a "basic" plan for a smaller monthly fee. This plan is not available to their existing customers online or through the software. They only offer it to customers who call to cancel. So they even trick their existing customers who may not need whatever is offered with the "pro" plan into paying more per month than they could be paying. I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company - this is basically fraud.

Abysmal, dishonest scam. After much effort, arguments, anger and "disconnected" calls, I finally cancelled and got a full refund. HERE'S HOW YOU GET THE REFUND: Don't bother with the electronic maze of menus. Call: 877 395 4918 and select option #4. This may require 1-2 transfers up the management chain, but as you go, make sure to get everyone's full name (they're obligated to give you first name and last initial). Get a call back number as you go. They WILL disconnect you deliberately along the way. Don't give up!
Tell them you are recording the conversation. Enforce that you will and/or have contacts the better business bureau, postmaster general's office, and that you are informed you have grounds for a class action suit (indeed, you do). Mention them by first name and last initial repeatedly. Remind them they are being recorded. Eventually they will comply, close the fraudulent account and issue a full refund. Finally, tell them that if following the refund they call/email with additional offers/discounts/incentives/ploys, you will file harassment charges. This should avoid all the follow-up nonsense people seem to be bombarded with.

They just didn't want to let me go as a customer! I called to cancel service multiple times... and the reps do anything they can to keep you... offering a discounted plan or another free month, whatever. It takes some finagling... but they do have a "Basic Plan" that is totally free! This plan is no monthly charge at all except the regular charges for your actual postage purchases. They don't tell you about this usually, because their job is to keep you on a subscription and making them money. You can't ship first class, media mail or print stamps with the free (basic) plan however, and it will prompt you to "upgrade" to a paid plan if you do. I always ship priority mail though, to the USA and Canada on a regular basis... so it works perfect for me and best of all is no monthly charge!

Similar to many people I was suckered into creating an account using their free month of service ($5 free postage, plus a packet of free stamps to post on and an additional $20 of free postage after the trial period ended). It seemed like a good investment at the time, I do tend to send a lot of personal mail and small packages and my post office is the busiest post office I've ever been to. However, I couldn't justify the cost after thinking about it for a while. On the last day of my 4-week trial I called the toll-free number and closed my account. I guess I was lucky that I got someone good on the phone, I was actually dreading calling after reading all these reviews! I only spent 6 minutes on the phone, and yes she did try to sell me a cheaper option but you just have to politely tell them no. AND, even though it was the last day of my 4 week trial (literally 4 weeks to the day), she made sure that I would not be charged any fees (I'll still be checking my credit card statement, but I think I should be good).
So to everyone out there thinking of canceling, there's still hope that it won't be an awful experience!

We recently got a stamps.com account for our business. We thought it would be easier than having to go get stamps all the time, and thought it would be great to be able to print directly on envelopes. The other day my printer was not fond of the envelopes I was trying to print on so the postage didn't print. I decided I'd just print on a sheet of stamps. Nope, can't do that. Once you've committed to printing on one media, you have to stay with that. You have to request a refund for what you didn't print.
In order to get a refund I have to SEND IN all 100 envelopes to "prove" that the postage didn't print, then I'll get the refund. So I have to spend more money on postage to send it in. Oh - and I do not get the envelopes back. You even have to do this if 2 stamps don't print, so you have to spend a stamp to get a refund for 2 stamps. Quite the scam they have going on here. Yep - using up our supplies and canceling the account. Dumbest policy ever.

The service itself is fine, when you need it. It's kind of expensive, so unless you mail a large volume of stuff or can expense it, I don't find it worthwhile. Especially when you factor in that it is nearly impossible to cancel. They require you to call them to cancel, which in this day and age is inexcusable, especially when you can sign up entirely online. I canceled over a year ago via phone and just found out they are still billing me monthly. Very unhappy with this service, fine for when I needed it, but definitely not worth the extra year of payments I'm going to have to fight over with them.

If you are also fine with that, they will remove credit awarded from the free trial when it is over. So, if you signed up for "free trial" and paid money for that free trial, you will be charged $15.99 for pro and the credit removed after the trial. When you try to cancel, they will still charge you for days you had the pro account. Do not use Stamps.com. It is not cheap and definitely not convenient. I signed up for the "free" 30 day trial of Stamps.com because I was going to be selling a pretty large number of my personal colognes on eBay and would be needing an easy way to ship out packages pretty regularly. The trial isn't free by the way because if don't cancel the service before 28 days from activation, they end up charging you for the first month. Not cool but ok. I can deal with it. The biggest problem with the service is that, it’s not any kind of deal - at least for it wasn't for me. I ended up just using the very similar eBay service for shipping packages and ended up saving money. The scale is nice to have but I could buy a new one online a still end up saving money. Now as for cancelling, yes they don't make it easy, which isn't fun but what really bothered me was that I think that for the final last ditch effort on their part, they were being purposefully confusing.
What I mean is that after telling the woman that I didn't want to keep my account open 4 times, the fifth time she gave an intentionally murky option that surely would have kept the monthly charges coming despite my obvious desire to completely shut down the account. I had to very slowly and explicitly tell the operator that I 100% want to completely shut down the account immediately and not have to call back again. Phew! Bottom line is unless you ship out A LOT of packages on a very regular basis that are not for eBay (They have an easier shipping option) I would not recommend Stamps.com. Just buy a scale from Amazon or eBay and use a different option. I will say however that I did not have a problem with the Stamps.com software and in fact found it easy to use and effective. For that I gave it two stars. If the company would be more friendly towards the consumer in a few key areas then I could imagine recommending the service in certain conditions.

I signed up for a Stamps.com account on or about April 2010. At that time, I knew that the company would charge a $15.99 monthly fee for the service. I run a small business and such a service fee was a reasonable concession. However, shortly after signing up, I was notified that my credit card could not be charged for the fee and another method of payment was requested. I provided another credit card number and believed that this issue had been resolved.
Throughout the 56 months of my account being active, I have used the same credit card to purchase postage. I have used only 1 postage meter scale, 1 e-mail address and only 1 telephone number with this Company. I just discovered that Stamps.com had created 2 accounts for me in 2010, and has been double billing me for the entire time - billing my business credit card on the 1st of the month (which I knew) and billing another personal credit card (which is basically not used although I carry small balances).
When I called the company to alert them, I was told that the double charges were legitimate since I had 2 open accounts and that they would not refund the charges to the dormant account (even though per the Company Representative, I never used that account). Even the manager at Stamps.Com was unable/unwilling to make this right. I am a small business owner that is extremely busy and while I should have discovered inappropriate charges to a credit card, they were relatively small in a given month and went unchecked. This does not provide Stamps.Com with permission to create a duplicate account and charge that account with monthly service fees. I plan to file a lawsuit seeking recovery of the bogus billings along with my legal costs and fees. I suggest that others who have been wronged by this company seek legal representation. I plan to discuss this matter with a class action lawyer.

The office manager from our small medical office signed up for Stamps.com online thinking she would get a free scale. When she found that the shipping charge was more than the cost of buying the scale locally, she did not complete the transaction. The account was never activated, we never received any free stamp coupons or any product or service whatsoever from Stamps.com. They billed our office for 5 years at a cost of over $1200.00 before this charge was uncovered. Stamps.com justifies the charges by saying that they sent us a "welcome letter". The letter was never received and most likely went into spam. Our office manager who never had authorization to sign up for this service retired and we were billed for 5 years after the trial period. The office manager was unaware that stamps.com had activated the account and started a trial period. This problem could have been averted if Stamps.com took the additional step of requesting by email or US mail a confirmation that the recipient of their bills wanted to continue after the trial period.
The stamps.com shareholders code of conduct states as their first principle "to promote the ethical handling of actual or apparent conflict of interest in professional relationships". Stamps.com has 127.8 million in annual revenue. It's a shame that in order to make this income that they unfairly take advantage of small businesses. After repeatedly contacting stamps.com, they refunded our office $217.00 out of the $1200.00 that they collected from our office.

I wasn't able to find instructions on how to cancel my account on the website and only found it through a separate Google search. Once I found it, I realized that you had to cancel via phone during standard business hours. It's 2014, right? Because of the inconvenient timing (I have a full-time job and run my business on nights and weekends), I put off canceling on several occasions (admittedly my fault). When I finally did cancel, I had already paid for two months of the service without using it once, and was into my third month of the service.
The cancellation was unpleasant at best - an extended sales pitch with no end in sight. After complaining a bit about being charged for three months of something I never actually used, the customer service rep pro-rated my last month's payment. I've been using Stamps.com since February 2014. I was previously using actual stamps to attach to packages I was mailing. For the exact same postage cost, I was able to print out using my label printer. My label printer is a ZP 450 which is designed for UPS, not USPS so I did have some issues installing the drivers. After several days of playing around, I eventually gave up and called Stamps.com. The representative was very friendly and probably took around 30 minutes or so to get access to computer and install driver. I was up and running after that. So far Stamps.com has been the easiest service for printing postage. I also using ShippingEasy and have tried Shipworks also but find that the process is easiest with Stamps.com using the program. The shipping cost is the same as what eBay charges except for international. International is higher, so I use eBay for that instead.
As far as the cost goes, that varies from plan to plan. I selected the free eBay seller plan and opted not to receive the scale. I'm only charged for postage or stuff that I buy from them. It was hard to find the link, but I called just to make sure before signing up that it would be free. The reviews I've read that are negative seem to be regarding fees or the lack of understanding what a trial or services is. A trial is a limited time thing. After that, there is a fee involved that occurs every month. This is the same with Netflix, credit monitoring and other services. All of the fees should be in the terms at the bottom of the page. It is simply a matter of reading before signing up.

Unlike other reviewers here, I was aware of Stamps.com monthly fee of $15.99 for the service, whether postage was used or not. I found the plugin to be unwieldy and not flexible enough for our needs. Before the 30-day trial was over, I had determined that the service was not for us and went to Stamps.com to cancel. This is where my problems started.
First, there is no obvious place to cancel your account on the site. Going to account settings and every other obvious place it should be located does not offer cancellation as an option. I ended up Googling "cancel stamps.com" and came up with a page on their site that had the information I was looking for. RED FLAG #1.
Second problem, there is no method of cancelling your online stamps.com account through the web site, but rather you have to call an 800 number. Warning - RED FLAG #2! If your site allows people to sign up online then the only reason on earth why you would require people to call to cancel is you want to badger them into staying with the service.
Third problem, suspicions concerned, after navigating through the maze of auto-attendants (which did not recognize my phone number when asked to verify my account information) I finally spoke to a live person. I asked to cancel my account and was immediately hounded by an attempt to play 21 questions. I responded to every request for further information about why I wanted to cancel with, it's not for us, please cancel. I was met with repeated attempts to get me to stay on the free trial, which they offered to extend, and call back later if I didn't want to service. I repeatedly responded with "no thanks, please cancel".
After finally agreeing to cancel my account, the representative asked for part of my social security number or driver's license to cancel my account. RED FLAG #3. I refused to give this information over the phone and I had to wait for the rep to get a supervisor. In then end my address was sufficient to cancel. Why they would ask for this information is beyond me. All in all it took way too long to cancel an online account over phone with a person who was very obviously trained to badger consumers into spending money on something they don't need or want.

Much better than waiting in line at the post office to buy a single stamp.
As I read their offer, it was a free download of their software and a free into package of labels and blank stamps that could be printed on. Sounded cool, but I didn't need any of that as this would be one envelope sent once every other month and I could print right on the envelope. Also, as a bonus, they were including a free postal scale, but I would have to pay $9.99 for shipping. I already have a postal scale, but this one connected via USB to my computer so it can automatically integrate with the Stamps dot com software.
So, I set everything up and it worked fine. They didn't have my envelope size, but it wasn't too difficult to create a custom envelop size. No biggie. I paid the initial $9.99 shipping and the initial funding of postage with a credit card online. My bank allows me to create what they call a virtual credit card number to use for online transactions and I'm glad I did. Basically, its a single use credit card number that is tied back to your real credit card. You can set it to expire immediately, or after a set number of months. You can also set it to have a spending limit. I think I set this to expire shortly after the initial transaction and with a limit of $20 or less. Maybe only $15.
Well, a few weeks later I start getting nasty emails that charges from Stamps.com will not go through and I need to update my payment info. I'm like WTF, I haven't made any other charges with them. Nowhere during the signup process did it state that there was ANY MONTHLY SERVICE FEE just for the ability to print your own stamps. So we're supposed to pay for the postage and then also pay a $15.99 monthly fee for the privilege to pay for this postage? Are they insane? So, for me to send my single letter every other month I need to pay $0.48 in postage and ($15.99 x 2) in fees? ...for a total of $32.46??? $32.46 to send a single letter, or go to the post office and send the same letter for $0.48. No wonder they are so deceptive. I will be cancelling asap and demanding a refund of any funds held in my account for postage purchases.

AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE A VIRUS. Total Scam. They need to be shut down. STAMPS is an online "convenience" postage service that sends you a "Trial package" of blank decorative stamps for your printing needs. Sounds great if you need postage on the fly, and your printer is perfect. However, if you run into printing issues, their website, and their direct CS totally contradict each other.
Their site includes an Account Cancel page (even for your trial period), which sends you an email confirmation of your account cancellation. And it states you must also call them direct, to confirm your cancellation. I did both. In fact, I PROMPTLY cancelled my "trial", after the postage they sent me kept jamming in my new printer. Also, only AFTER you sign up do you receive a notification that any refunds for printing errors will require a 4-6 week wait. This is bogus. No one needs to wait 30-45 days for a postage refund. Postage costs $$. These crooks do not care.
In spite my Prompt cancellation (and CS trying that boorish bate n switch garbage) the recurring charges did not Cancel. I suddenly began noticing charges to my bank account just this month. And upon further back-search, discovered prior monthly billing charges of $15.99, since June 2014. Well of course, my call to CS about it got me a 2nd Bait-Switch. Then the male CSR tells me there is no record of me calling them last April to Cancel. Big surprise.
YES, I have contacted my bank to file fraud dispute charges against these crooks. I also recently found out: Stamps has already been sued, and settled through court three times now, for their ongoing consumer fraud. You can buy instant postage at USPS.com without getting ripped off. And postage is available anywhere, today. Lesson learned!

This looks good on the surface... easy & convenient... but somewhere in the small print there is a 'trial' period' and then the $15.99 fee charged to your credit card monthly whether you use the postage or not.

I wish I had known about all the dissatisfied customers before subscribing to Stamps.com. The scale they sent is highly inaccurate, giving me a new reading every time I put the same book on it. Though I downloaded the plug-in, it never worked. When I called to cancel, I was pressured into subscribing at a smaller rate. This was all done by robot. When I reached a person, I had to be a broken record as he kept trying to find out more info from me so he could use another persuasive route. Finally, after interrupting him and saying "just cancel," was it done. It was only after I asked him what my bill would be that he offered to prorate it. I am sure the entire monthly fee would have been charged if I had not asked. Caveat emptor!

Don't ever, ever sign up for their free trial. I had one and cancelled it during the trial because I wasn't using it. They continued to charge me without my knowledge. I ended up losing my bank account because this. I was being charged monthly and didn't know it. My bank was giving me overdraft fees every time they would charge me if I didn't have the money in my account. So, then it snowballed and caused me to get charged more fees when I went to pay a different bill and the money wasn't there because of Stamps.com and overdraft fees they caused. I called and told them. They apologized and closed the account. Now, I find out they are still trying to charge me $175 for an account that I never used and have called and cancelled twice. It’s a total scam. I called today and the guy on the phone said he couldn't remove the fees. This is totally insane!

As many of the previous reviewers have noted, Stamps.com is on an Auto pay monthly charge service. My impression when signing up was that it was a fee-for-service type business: you buy what you need (in the units available) and print it out. Shortly after signing up with Stamps.com, I was affected by the Target store Hacker incident, and cancelled the card number I used to enroll with Stamps.com. Imagine my surprise when Stamps.com sent me emails and snail mails notices that I owed them money! I hadn't even purchased any more stamps! I use about a maximum of 10 stamps per month - nowhere near the need to use an Auto pay service. My favorite response to Stamps.com: I thumb my nose at them. Another consideration: most postage that you actually purchase from USPS or other vendors is "forever" - if the postage fee goes up, that particular stamp is still paid-in-full for postage. Not Stamps.com. When the USPS recently raised their rates, I had to go buy complementary postage so that they were usable. In general: Stamps.com is a pain-in-the-butt not worth the hassle. Go to your local post office or grocery store and buy the stamps you need.

I signed up for stamps.com thinking that it was a way to get postage quickly and that I would charged a small fee for joining. What I got was a very complicated and confusing way to purchase postage. It just doesn't make any sense. Like many of the other reviewers here, I never knew that they were charging me each month. Shame on me for not checking statements closely but you would think they would be sending monthly notices or something. On top of that, finding a way to cancel the subscription is next to impossible. When I finally called them and waited for a long time on the phone, they charged me for the month, even though I was one day into the next month. This is a scam and I am sure they are making millions through their fraudulent practices.

The account set up page of the Stamps.com website needs to be clarified. The page does state that after the four week no risk trial period, that the monthly fee of $15.99 will be billed to the card. The page does state that there is no contract and user can cancel at any time. The page does state that the card will be charged for protege and products. What the page does NOT say, is how the user is to contact Stamps.com to effect a cancellation. The page needs to clarify on what the $15.99 monthly charge is for - perhaps users are not clear on this when they sign up. The page needs to clarify what happens when the user's card expires. I, being myself, would ask Stamps.com to prove that it is an authorized licensed vendor of the USPS. Also, I question whether the USPS actually requires a residence address and a card. Prove it, Stamps.com. I have had my own issues with Stamps.com, but I wanted to move pass those and give Stamps.com some feedback as how to make things better.

They stated they do notify us but dumb company only sent me an email when I first signed up. THEY DID NOT SEND ME EMAIL CONFIRMATION FOR PAYMENTS MADE EACH MONTH. Why? So I see Stamps.com's great commercial about saving time and money. I thought, I have a friend in Canada, it'd be great to print my own international stamps. I'll sign up, it's free after all, raves the commercial. I'll just have to pay for what I use. Thank God I happened to search about the website where I saw I'm being charged $15.00 a month which I never agreed to. I never authorized for $15.00 to be taken from my credit card each month. I never picked a monthly plan, but was just secretly put into one after signing up. Oh and there's no way on the website to cancel your account, only to switch to a more expensive plan.
I also have a $5 balance for God knows what considering I never even used the service! I thought this service would save me time but now I'm wasting all this precious time looking for a way to cancel which doesn't exist. You have to call in. And guess what, they only answer phones while the whole rest of the world is at work (6am-6pm) and doesn't obviously have time to call in and get put on hold and have to argue your way out of something you never agreed to in the first place.
I want my account cancelled IMMEDIATELY. And don't send me an email telling me I have to call because I just explained that I work until 6 on weekdays. I also found out that if you don't cancel at the exact right time you will be charged for another month, even after you cancel. This company should be ashamed of how they do business. I don't know why anyone would want to take advantage of Americans already suffering financial difficulties. They are despicable. I called Stamps.com about this charge and they said they "can't reverse it", but the very insistent rep said she could arrange for me to have a cheaper plan. When I said it would have to be about $1/month for it to be worth my while, only then did the rep say, "Oh, it looks like you're qualified for our free plan". I called them out for not having that option on their website, and the rep said "Well it's a very very new plan, so it's not listed on our website yet." Right.
I agreed to the free plan but after having read the many negative reviews of them online, I called back to say I couldn't trust them anymore and was not hanging up without canceling my plan this time. FYI, the rep I talked to seemed to accept the fact that I could trust them anymore as a valid reason to cancel, and he did cancel my plan, but only after verifying the last four digits of my SSN. I went on the stamps.com website to try to purchase ONE online stamp. You have to sign up for an account in order to be able to purchase anything at all... I don't think I actually ever purchased the stamp I wanted because it seemed like it was going to overcharge me. 8 months later, I realize I've been charged $15.99 a month for some monthly service that I never signed up for (I have no interest in a free trial, so I wouldn't have voluntarily done one), and have never used, and definitely do not want. It took me a LONG time to get them on the phone, and then I had to spend about 30 minutes threatening to start a class action lawsuit in order to get my money back. My advice: never even visit their misleading website. If you already visited their website and are being charged against your will, report it to your credit card company as a fraudulent charge, and do not let them get off the phone without giving you ALL of your money back. They are making a killing off of this scam... I'm sure most people just cancel once they've discovered it... what a horrible company.

In July I received a package from Bethany Lane and it was for someone else who lives in my state. I contacted BL and asked they would like me to forward the package to the person and they said yeah and they would reimburse me $4.00. I search for shipping from home and Stamps.com came up. It stated setting up the acct was free. So entered my information and gave my debit card to pay for the shipping, but once I saw that they were going to charge more than $4.00 I stopped the process and looked up USPS and shipping with them.
This weekend I checked my bank online and noticed I had been debited by them $15.99. I called them Monday and was unable to speak with a live person. I had to stay on for 20 minutes as I attempted to close my acct. At the end it told me that it would charge me a service fee to close my acct. So I tried to call them right back to discuss this and I was disconnected by their system because it said I had closed my acct. I tried logging back in and it closed me out. I called my bank and they said that they had to close my debit card and reissue me a card that would take a week to receive. So later that day I went in to get money and mentioned the delay to the teller and she said that I could get a card sooner. She had me talk to a banker, who I shared my story with. He told me I could get a card expedited but it would cost me $30.00 and then I could apply for a fee reversal and they might remove the fee.
Today I see they posted that they plan to take additional $1.03 from my account even though yesterday they stated it was suppose to come out of the $15.99 fee they already charged me. I don't want any money given to them because they stated setup was free and I never chose acct plan. I never authorized $15.99 to be taken from my acct. on a monthly basis. I have no reason to use a company on a monthly basis. I was trying to do a company a favor. I am so upset that I shared story with my online group and someone found this site for me. They also found their Facebook page and I tried to leave a post there too. But it did not show up. I hope my bank can assist me with getting my money back. I feel so taken advantage of.

I wish I had done my homework first and found the posts here about Stamp.com. I tried them based on a recommendation by a friend. All I can say is ditto with the majority of the other posters. I did not see where I would be charged for $15.99 per month after the first month. After signing up I tried to create a shipping label. The site was awkward and the price was the same as I got from the USPS website so I did not finish the label. 32 days after signing up I noticed a charge of $15.99 on my Visa account. I then did some research and found this site and others complaining about the monthly charge. I just thought I missed it posted somewhere but this many people couldn't have missed it.
I called them and got my account cancelled. They were very persistent in trying to keep me with them to a point of being annoying. They were also going to charge me another $15.99 since I was two days into the second month. After I told them I had the Visa card cancelled and the first charge disputed they "waived" the second charge. They did send me an email confirming my account cancellation and a balance due of zero. I had a new Visa card an hour later. I would not recommend doing business with this company. If you are a business or do a lot of shipping using Stamps may be worth the monthly charge as their software apparently has bells and whistles others don't but based on their strong arm customer tactics and don't think I would take a chance. I will stick with Paypal and the USPS websites for all of my shipments in the future.

I was never notified that my credit card was being charged $16/mo from December through August, and it wasn't until I signed up for a budgeting website that I realized this was where my money was going. Their automated cancellation process is a fabulous way of acknowledging that they need to expedite the number of angry and disserviced customers who call to cancel. Charging customers without their knowledge is a mainstay of this scam, and I have no interest in dealing with this pay model even when I do have a PC.

I would like to know when vendors have a right to just update the credit expiration date without permission! Although it's only $15.99 per month, I was planning on letting it lapse. For starters, reviewing stamps.com I could swear it said that it was compatible with Mac if I downloaded something specific, but I could be wrong. I brought the scale into work hoping I would be able to download the software and use it there since it's because of them I started to look into this program (no longer allowing employees to charge postage to our paychecks after 20+ years). I joined in January 2014 and my credit card was set to expire in May 2014. Stamps.com just updated the expiration date. The only way to cancel is to call. Well, working 15-20 hours days I don't always remember or have the time. If we can sign up online, why can't we cancel online!!!!! Based on past information, I thought Stamps.com had a good reputation. I see that is no longer the case. What burns my hide is how they won't tell you how it really works until they make you sign up for a trial, and their aggressive automatic monthly billing policies, and the impossibility to find a way to cancel the service from any links on the main page. I had to use a search engine to find the page that explains how to cancel. They also fight you tooth and claw when you do call them. So they are making most of their profits on duping people into signing up and getting $15 to $100 out of them before they can figure out how to cancel. I agree with many of the other posts. When I signed up for Stamps.com, there was nothing in the text or my account creation emails to indicate that they put you on a monthly plan and will start billing you after a 'free trial'. Like others, I thought Stamps.com has an a la carte "pay as you go" system, so after my initial purchase of stamps, I paid it no mind... I was pretty shocked to start getting billed on a monthly basis.
I managed to cancel my account and get that first monthly charge refunded, but not before I jumped through a lot of hoops - including being on the phone for about 20 minutes with a CS representative who kept trying to get me not to cancel, even though I kept telling her I wanted to. Then, I actually had to dispute the charge with my CC company - it was only then that Stamps.com finally relented and refunded my money. There is also NOWHERE on their website where you can cancel your account or delete your personal info. You have to call them. Even then, I suspect that they're holding onto my personal info, even though I have requested they delete it.
A VERY shady company, and one that is not deserving of the positive adverts it gets online and in many popular podcasts.

Stamps.com as an organization is built upon scamming potential customers. They trick the investigative potential customer into creating an account in order to view the options and features of their "service" (loosely defined). There were no warning emails that my "free trial" would end on mm/dd/yyyy. I called Stamps.com customer service, which you must do to cancel your account. They said there would be no refund but they would gladly close my account and promptly added a prorated fee for the 6 days after the 30-day trial. So, you must pay for the Free Trial 30-days AND when you do cancel. They charge you a prorated rate EVEN if you NEVER use any of their services and don't buy anything. I set up my account thinking that I would be using it since it was the time of year in which I usually have to send a lot of mail. I never used the service but kept it until the last day of the trial offer period in case I needed. Once the day to cancel came, I went online to cancel my account, but unfortunately nowhere was it made immediately apparent that in order to cancel your account, which was created online, could only be cancelled by phone. As it was 9:30pm on a Friday when I had attempted to close my trial account, their offices were closed and were not open until Monday. Again, nowhere in the trial offer I received in the mail did it state I had to cancel my account before a specific time, in fact it said cancel ANY time, so I assumed that the time of day did not matter.
So I was charged the $15.99 despite the fact that I had every intention to close my account before my trial period ended. In addition, I was charged $1.55 for the Saturday and Sunday that I had the account even though there was no way for me to close the account until Monday. I was already upset with the $15.99 charge that I felt was wrongfully charged, but it was further worsened by fact that an additional $1.55 was added all because they do not feel like offering a method to cancel your account online and not being opened on weekends.
