I have spent over one month with countless hours uploading my products to sell online. I followed all the guidelines and rules from POD's policies and after uploading over 200 items on Etsy, by the 3rd day or so I received a message that they suspended my account because it required further verification. I followed the exact simple verification steps and after 10 minutes of processing I closed the window. I did this over and over and nothing.
Etsy has made it nearly impossible to get in touch with customer support and when you finally get in touch with someone, they are unable to resolve the issue and assure you that someone from tech support will be in touch. NO ONE every gets back to you from tech support. You put all your hard work and heart into something and trust that the company (Etsy) will work out and only come to find out that the company has gotten so large that you are just thrown in hole. Etsy has this excerpt on their customer support page that reads, "keep it human", this is such a false statement.

I recently opened a seller account on Etsy to sell my handknitted blankets and less than 24 hours later my account was suspended. I reached out to them in regards to this matter and received an email stating they will not be reinstating my account and will no longer respond to messages. There was absolutely no reason they gave me as to why my account was suspended. Etsy is a scam and took my 17 dollar fee and will not be reimbursing me. There is no reason this should happen. I did not violate any policy.

Innocently I get "partially" hacked before I realize that it is a scam. Much trouble with that!!! No response through all of my "messages" to Etsy--nothing!!! I have been using Etsy since it was just handmade goods. Now it is drop shippers. Ordered a bday card on 3/31. Sellers est arrival of 4/7 to 4/12. Today is 4/22/24. Card never received, tracking shows it sitting in a Georgia post office for 3 weeks. Seller refused to refund. I escalated and suddenly Etsy intervened and issued my refund. I am done. What a shame, it was the crafters that made Etsy unique. Now it's just another Amazon with longer shipping times and a hassle refund policy.

I opened a shop on Etsy this month. After selling 4 of my handmade items my shop was permanently suspended and my personal account as well. Etsy gives no reason to the seller but Company policy. You cannot speak with anyone. I am a 77 year old grandmother and everyone was so excited to be able to see my beautiful items for sale. I worked for a few days and nights listing and setting up everything. Since this permanent suspension, it has affected my health and I feel a great deal of sadness, pain and feel defeated after being so elated to begin this selling adventure in my life. This Company does not realize the harm they do to sensitive artists. And then, to cut you off without giving any reason for their actions. This is despicable behavior!

Buying on Etsy was a great mistake. I spended about €2.200 buying, a necklace, sinks, faucet and a jacket. All of them were defects. The sink's suppose to be from brass. I paid €381 for it. After a while, it start rusting. When I contacted the shop, it doesn’t exist anymore. And when I contacted Etsy, they said they can’t help me since the shop is closed. This is the perfect way to earn money by cheating. Anyone can open a shop, selling for ten thousands euros all kind of rubbish and within weeks close the shop. Walla! I hope people read the reviews before throwing their money into the garbage.

I purchased bead markers from Jillsbeadedknitbits on Etsy. I wrote a 5 star review but commented that I was a bit disappointed in the pendant size. It appeared larger to me in the picture. I received a scathing reply that I had placed criticisms in two reviews after doing multiple orders and the vendor was quite upset. She said that this would hurt her with Etsy. She felt that she was doing me a favor in doing a custom order. I paid for her to go the custom order! So in summary, the vendors are forcing you to write 5 star reviews with wonderful comments or they do not want to do business with you. The system is so automated that it takes more than a road map to convey your dissatisfaction. I will no longer do business with this vendor because she does not value her customers! I will no longer write reviews on Etsy! Please beware that the review is constrained by Etsy rules levied on the vendor for which they have no control.

I've been selling on Etsy for 10 years now with 2 different shops. It used to be a great way for me to get commissions on custom items, though working with customers on custom items can still be difficult. But the fees! I don't think I really understood how many fees I was being charged when I first started, and it was just a side gig at the time so I wasn't vigilant. They've only raised the rates over the last few years while small businesses are closing due to the crazy high inflation right now. They did raise the rates before it got this bad, but I'm sure they knew the recession was going to hit its seller-base hard even back then.
Their payments/statements page seems to be intentionally difficult to navigate in that it has no search or filter and the even BLOCKED the command F function so you can't search them yourself - you have to download a CSV file and (if you don't have Excel) upload it to Google Drive to search it, or go through manually for the details. If you click the details and need to go "back" to reference other fees or pick up where you left off, you have to find the right page again, because it does not infinity scroll or hold you place. Even if you find what you're looking for in the CSV, you probably have to go back and sift through pages of statements to find it again for details on the order (or USPS adjustment details, which happens to me all the time and is often an incorrect charge for a shipping service you did not upgrade to or receive).
I've complained multiple times and they basically just say "we'll look into it" or "we'll keep that in mind next time we make an update" but I doubt they will. Their updates are rarely helpful and usually just screw up my listings and workflow. I can't even add new FAQ anymore. But let me get back to the FEES: Everyone is automatically opted in to offsite adds that charge you 12-15% of the order total. If your store makes more than $10k in revenue, apparently you can't opt out of this.
Now, remember I said order TOTAL (not item total or just the item they clicked on the ad for) so that % is taken after taxes and shipping are added. I got an international order where the customer upgraded to the most expensive shipping possible and paid much more in shipping and taxes than on the item itself. They bought 2, so after all other fees I received 45% of the listed price for them, but if they had only gotten 1 it would have been even less than that - so no profit was made. This is ridiculous!
They even act like they give you a great discount on shipping (including their super shitty "Global Postal" shipping through USPS that causes me so many headaches with international customers) but they charge you a 6.5% processing fee on shipping! So there's a $0.20 relisting fee for each individual item, a processing fee that's another $0.25 + 3% of the order total including taxes and shipping, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including taxes and shipping, and potentially a 15% offsite add marketing fee.
The only positive thing I have to say after looking at my statements is that at least they take care of the sales tax for you so you don't have to get a seller's permit if you only sell on Etsy, but I have my own website and have to take care of sales tax on that myself anyway. They have definitely stopped investing in custom service as much as they should. It is difficult to get them to hold up to their end of the bargain on customer protection as well - if a package gets lost they're literally like "we're supposed to cover that for you and fund a replacement, but that will take a while, so you should just send it for free now and not ask us for money to prevent your buyer from getting mad and leaving a bad review of your shop" *eye roll.*
So, yes Etsy provides a captive audience who at least used to primarily be people who want to support small businesses and craftspeople, but... it's also starting to try to be Amazon instead and buyers have become less and less considerate/understanding. Etsy doesn't support sellers as much as they used to and now are mostly just preying on them. Sure there are some benefits compared to other platforms but I'm not feeling very positive about the outlook for us.

Don't bother! I started my shop a month ago and had it suspended twice for so called "verification". The first time the process went smooth but the second time Etsy refused the verification because my bank account didn't have a $200 balance! So because I'm poor my shop was suspended. No help from the system. Just a regurgitated response saying my shop couldn't be restored until I had $200 in my account.
If I'm the seller then why do I have to have a certain amount of money in my own account? Makes no sense and I've already scheduled deletion of my account. Funny thing is all my fees are already paid and upon request for deletion. I get a pop up message stating it will take $0.20 out of my bank account balance of $0.22 in order to close my shop. First I'm too poor to have a shop and now I have to pay to close it even though it's suspended. TALK ABOUT A SCAM! DON'T SELL ON THIS CRAP SITE UNLESS YOU'RE OK WITH BEING ROBBED!!!!

I am a seller on Etsy, have been so since 2016. I pay FULL fees to access ALL of Etsy services. Today Etsy kept its promise and took the COMMUNITY forum private (Etsy wants to hide its bad behavior from the public). Many sellers like me were banned from the forum over the years. Most due to bullies in the forum that Etsy does not properly moderate. It is a game to them. Etsy has an alternative of read only mode for the 1000's of sellers like me. However, they refuse to implement read only mode. Just being a bully. Thus leaving 1000's of sellers like myself in the dark on all things Etsy.
Etsy is NOT inclusive. My own experience to prove this even discriminatory towards me. I am a person with a disability as well. I vowed when they took this action to never spend a dime as a buyer (10's of thousands over the years) on Etsy again. You keep your exclusivity Etsy and I keep my $. I did not receive the correct support from the Etsy team in understanding what was wrong. I’ve had the worst experience with Etsy! It's been a literal nightmare trying to get Etsy to help with a fraudulent claim. Which after 3 months of back and forth, I’m getting NO help! Jay had his bank card stolen in November when a fake account was created. He’s never ordered from Etsy so we thought the charges were odd. We immediately called the bank and had the charges stopped and the card shut down. When we contacted Etsy there was no account under his name so nothing could be found. Then weeks later we get 2 hand sewn makeup bags with random personal photos sewn inside. Each $62 and we realize this is what was charged.
I was now able to follow up with the seller but she didn’t help at all. It was not until weeks later that she said someone was sabotaging her business and multiple orders were made with fake accounts, stolen cards, then the account closed. Then this person was leaving poor reviews on her products. She could not allow me to return the items since the account was closed she could not return my money! She suggested reach out to Etsy to get their help and gave me the order numbers and details to use.
Weeks of attempting to get help, I get a response from Etsy that says this was up to my bank and they are closing the case. Wow!! My bank closed the case in January since it was never proven that the charges were unauthorized. No one will allow me to return these hideous bags and of course I’ve lost $124. I’m sooo disappointed in Etsy for not standing by their sellers and services. This was even a case that had been reported by the seller yet they won’t assist or allow a refund. I will NEVER shop here in the future and would advise you only buy from people you know there. Please feel free to share. Victims shouldn’t be punished when the business has the ability to make it right.

I opened an Etsy shop this week by completing their enrollment process. Provided my personal information not limited to my Social Security number, banking information, and credit card for payments. At the final step the site told me that there was a $15.00 “investment” that goes towards Etsy keeping their market place a safe one. After agreeing and having my shop open for no more than a minute, I arrived to a screen that states my shop was suspended and to look for an email from them, giving me the reason why it was suspended. Days later I did not receive the email and I contacted Etsy via their appeal process, which is belittling and useless since they never communicated to me with what went wrong. Below is the response I received to the appeal within an hour:
“This is Bhumika from Etsy’s Member Services team. We appreciate you taking the time to file an appeal with Etsy. After careful consideration, we've determined your account does not qualify for reinstatement. We've performed a comprehensive review of your account and the information you provided, and are unable to reconsider this decision. While we’re unable to disclose our internal review criteria or discuss your account status further, if you have questions related to your Payment Account please review Etsy’s Payments Policy. We’re unable to reconsider this decision and can no longer respond to further messages about your account status. We appreciate the time you’ve invested on Etsy and wish you success in your future endeavors. Thanks and regards Bhumika”
How a publicly traded company can just scam me out of $15.00 and all my personal information, that I can now not remove/delete from their site, is incredible. How is the legal? If Etsy wants to collect fees from people for opening a sellers account I get it, but give them the opportunity to know what went wrong if something goes wrong. Or be accountable and say that there was a glitch with their site. This doesn’t happen on other selling platforms, I would know, I’ve selling online since the early 2000s. ** is my Etsy shop name. I'm a star seller. I've had some low reviews where the customers 100% lied, extorted, in attempts to get free things. I always offer return for refund for any reason as I believe in treating people compassionately. Scammers have been horrible. International scammers even worse. I always ship with insurance and tracking, and help buyers if something goes wrong. Etsy has not protected me as a seller from these scammers or the false reviews even when I show proof of lying and extortion is happening. Etsy forgets that the seller is also a customer. The policy they say they have to protect sellers they don't enforce so you cant trust them. Unfair rating system.
Additional note, the key words on your paid etsy ads are always "optimizing" they call it, adding keywords to help spend your ad budget which turns out to be in not relevant keywords. For example I'm selling a necklace- they eat up my ad budget saying they are optimizing my listing by charging me for keywords ads using words like "realestate, cactus, journal" and so on. None of the keywords relate to my item even remotely. Any company doing this would be fired in the real world.
I turn those keywords off, and at any time they add a bunch of other "optimized" non relevant keywords onto your product. You are never notified when they do this and your ad spend gets eaten up on totally irrelevant key words which also drops your click through rate. So you have to check several times a day. The changes you make to remove these "optimized adwords" (not optimized keywords) takes up to 48 hours to update the removal so enjoy paying for ads you don't need and wont. create a sale. You can not turn this "service' off. The spike of irrelevant words raises considerable before "quarterly earning report" goes out so they could be inflating etsy income on the backs of screwing sellers. I could go on and on but you get the idea. Thumbs down, I'm working on my exit.

I sell on 4 major selling sites and have never been treated so poorly. All I want is for my personal information and my storefront deleted, but they refuse to do that for me. Unbelievable. For anyone thinking of opening an Etsy store please re-think your decision. I also had several scam messages within the site coming from the Etsy home office… scary to think that as a new store front owner you have to deal with not knowing which emails are fake. Totally dishonest. It worries me because their security seems fragile. Please please rethink opening a storefront..they can shut you down on a dime for absolutely nothing and they will refuse to tell you why. I am a very experienced seller on other sites so this is very disturbing!

I recently purchased an item off Etsy from a 5-star seller. However, the seller never delivered my item within Etsy's described time frame nor did the seller respond to queries for updates. I asked for the item to be sent, under Etsy's policies, but Etsy refunded my payment, instead. When I was prompted by their menu to leave feedback, and I left 1-star with an explanation, it was not posted and I received a message stating there was trouble with my account. What a lie. This happened once before on Etsy. From these experiences, one realizes that Etsy protects sellers from receiving negative feedback in selected cases.
In addition, it's no longer possible to contact their customer service directly as they've thwarted that process by positing numerous sub-menus to select, none of which pertained to my problem. Like other huge selling venues, they were initially honest, transparent and easy to contact. But now, they are nothing but another Globalist-oriented business with little regard for the customers that made them wealthy.

Had bought small items on Etsy for years, with no problems, this time, I purchased a $428, Louis Vuitton Galliera PM. Received a blatant counterfeit, proven in many pictures and rubber canvas and fake leather, as well as highly faked date code, before bag was even produced, LV has in Alcantara lining, heat stamped into snap pocket, never had a leather tab until 2012. So many other reasons. Seller refused to send me a return shipping label, to their country, as Etsy states all FAULTY received items, seller pays return shipping. Would have cost me $88 after already being frauded $428. It is very apparent that Etsy condones sellers selling trademark infringed, counterfeit items, and encourages it and will not help innocent buyers whom have been scammed. Now guess I have to do a credit card chargeback.

Purchased two starter plants in Jun 2023 for about US $31, a bit pricey. One came with badly dehydrated leaves, one was fine. Contacted seller "The Green Escape" with a picture, seller said the plant is still alive, refund/replacement will be issued when the plant gets worse. During the whole summer, both plants were grown in pots, the bad one produced only a few tiny weak stems. I transplanted them to ground in mid-Nov, 23. The good one is growing much better with bigger leaves and more stems, while the bad one was about the same, not much better.
Contacted seller last week, I was told that the purchase is over 100-days, no replacement/refund. Seller said that I shouldn't plant starter plant on ground that seller never mentioned on Etsy or provided instructions with the shipment. There is no way to contact Etsy. I lost the money. How can we support this kind of unreliable small business? Etsy products are usually more expensive that the other online marketplaces.

My experience as a seller on Etsy was disappointing. The lack of direct support, absence of chat communication, and the necessity to resort to emails created frustration. Despite being a 5-star seller, issues with accessing my 1099 form persisted, leading to a prolonged back-and-forth. Closing my shop was the result, and now my funds are withheld until June, causing considerable disappointment. The platform efficiently collected fees but hasn’t released my funds as expected.

I want to leave a review for the recent removal of the category filter. For the last 12 years that I have used Etsy (via browser on my computer), I have been able to search for specific items via the search bar (for today's example, Animal Books). After searching Animal books I would then be able to tailor what specific category I wanted to look though. For example, I could search "Animal Books" and then select "Books, Movies, and Music" and exclusively search in that category. I couldn't even go further tailor the category down to "children's books". This is what set Etsy apart from so many other websites and it made the ability to browse SO enjoyable.
Sure, over the years, paid ads of items not necessarily relevant to your search would pop up in your pages, but it wasn't so bothersome because it was still inside the bounds of the category you had selected. This gave buyers the ability to happily browse for hours (and the more browsing, the more finding of things to buy, as I am sure etsy knows via stats). Etsy has recently taken this feature away, you can browse categories and you can still search specific items, but you can no longer filter those searches down by category. This means when I went to search through animal books I was forced to search through items completely unrelated to animal books (animal toys, animal drawings, items that any seller used animal books as a tag or SEO). This makes the browsing experience horrible.
Imagine going to Target to look for baby books, but instead of just walking to the book section and find the baby book section to look through, you have to search a completely scrambled *massive* isle full of baby things, with baby books placed randomly throughout. That would be a pretty awful experience. This is what Etsy has done with their removal of this feature. After just two minutes of searching I gave up and went and browsed and purchased an animal book on Thriftbooks. I sincerely hope etsy adds this feature back. I don't know how I could enjoyably use their website moving forward if they don't.

I had been selling on Etsy for over 2 years and was getting tired of the massive cut they take from sales so I put my shop in vacation mode to take some time off. Vacation mode means your shop is not viewable, people cannot even see find your listings if they really wanted to, so in other words, your listings are not active. While on vacation mode, towards the last few months Etsy sent me an email trying to charge me for the listings that I have that are NOT listed as I am on vacation mode. I responded inquiring as to what the charges were as I was not listing anything currently and read that I wouldn't be charged for the listings that are not listed (all of them). 3 months go by and no one has responded to me. Suddenly I get an email saying my account is suspended for an outstanding invoice, again, I reached out to their customer support for help. No answer.
Several more months go by and I reach out again, explaining how I am not sure what I am being charged for servicing I am not receiving / shouldn't be getting charged for and explained how I am now suspended for not paying this mystery invoice. And FINALLY got a response: "You have an outstanding invoice is why your account is suspended." COMPLETELY USELESS. I literally spelled that out for them in my question and they clearly didn't even read it. A year later and my account is still suspended and NO ONE has responded to my polite request for help. Etsy was trying to scam me for charging me invoices for services I was not receiving / shouldn't have been charged for, and then tried to bully me into paying it by suspending my account despite my multiple appeals and requests for telling me WHAT I am being charged for before I paid it.
As a seller I had a horrible experience, made about half of the income I should have been due to their heavy cut, and as a buyer I had been scammed on Etsy for a fake plant account that never shipped my order I placed and despite Etsy loving to advertise how the buyers have protection, they did absolutely nothing when I was scammed off of their site by a fraudulent seller (who is still active despite being reported, might I add) and told me to go figure it out myself, even tho it was THEIR seller that scammed me. You vote with your money so I will never give Etsy another penny again. AVOID.

Some did it for a few times and then disappeared. When a new person took over the case, he or she appeared to know nothing about the case and asked me to answer a series of questions in order to unlocked me. Today, after six days of lockout and the numerous wasted hours to unlock, I refuse to answer any of those questions. This is really the worst.
Updated on 12/24/2023: As in my description in my review, now Etsy locked me out four days in a row. I had to spend considerable effort to get them to unlock me each time. Here is an email I received from their security team, admitting that they locked me out in error. And yet, they locked me out again. Four days in a row, six times in the last seven days, and thirteen times this year. How messed up you have to in your security system and customer support?
Original review: Starting this year, Etsy randomly locked my shop out, over 12 times so far, five times in the last six days and daily in the last three days. Each time, it would take me many hours of writing and waiting to unlock my shop. When I asked Etsy why my shop was locked. They said they do that to protect me even though they did not detect any real security concerns. They also told me that they locked me out in error and assured me that it won't happen again. It only got worse. Every day lockout in the last three days. This is after I signed up their two-step verification process for sign-in.
Etsy's help center is the worst in the industry. No phone number to reach them. Always the same standard message and their assurance amounts to nothing. How can anybody stand the harassment for being locked out every day, three days in a row, and no ends in sight! What type of company would put their star seller through this?

Got the product and it was very nice. My wife then used Etsy to try and buy an ornament that was to be a Christmas present. Seller sent a message to say they had shipped the order via FedEx but no tracking info was provided. Later, after waiting several days, seller sent a message through Etsy to say the product was delivered. It was NOT. Later a picture of the "delivered item" was sent which was NOT our house and NOT the product (a small ornament does not need a huge box).
My wife requested a tracking number from the seller who refused to send it. Instead, seller says he will send another but still no tracking number included. Ok. Tried to contact Etsy about the problem. Not only was it impossible to get help from Etsy, the sleazy seller is STILL selling on Etsy! Unfortunately, my wife did not read the reviews on this seller or she would have steered clear. Thankfully, the item was paid through PayPal. We had to resort to contacting them in order to get a refund. In only gave the review 3 stars because the first order went ok. My advice, if you shop on Etsy, read the reviews on the seller (hopefully they are accurate) and NEVER pay directly with a credit card or even worse, a debit card. GO THROUGH PayPal or similar and get a tracking number if possible. Otherwise, shop somewhere else!

I have bought many things on Etsy and never had an issue until now. I purchased pearls that were supposed to be in the same color. The two sets I received were complete not even close. I contacted the seller to get help. I kept getting the run around. They couldn't even send me a label that I could print or download. They said it works for us. I explained well it doesn't work on my end to even print it. I paid to send the items back and the said they would refund the shipping. They also said they would let me know when they received the package back. They have done neither. They received my items back on 11/13. They also changed my order status back to in transit. I have no idea why they would do that.
I cannot contact any human other than them at this point. I stated I will be opening a case if they do not issue the refund. I have never had so many issues with a seller on Etsy. Quality Bead Mart you have terrible customer service. I will never purchase from this Etsy seller ever again.. perhaps not even any seller on Etsy due to the horrible issues.

Interesting how a business that seemed to being a great job can blow it all up. The last year has shown that they are inconsistent, and dishonest. As as Seller: They utilize hidden fees for sellers, policies that only impact certain sellers and terrible customer service. As a buyer: they are basically a dropshipper for Alibaba. 90% of the items seem like they could be bought on Shein or Temu. Watching them fail is a wild change from their beginnings.

I volunteered to make personalized Christmas ornaments for our office and purchase micro items (dollhouse sized) that represents each person I’m making the ornaments for and I thoroughly perused all options from a shop on Etsy that offered the item I was looking for. I placed each item in my cart and was happy that I was 1. Able to find the items I was looking for and 2. Helping out an artisan's shop. I go through the lengthy process to check out only to find that I’m paying almost half of what my bill is in just shipping fees alone. I went back to look at some of the shops shipping charges and none of them lost what they charge for shipping? I spent all that time choosing each item carefully only to be charged exorbitant shipping fees?!
I have been shopping on Etsy for quite some time but I will not pay double the amount because of charges incurred just for the shipping. All that time wasted and now I’ll have to go elsewhere to purchase. It’s a shame because these items are not found everywhere so I might have to try to make them myself instead of supporting a shop that specializes in micro items.

In the spirit of transparency and to inform fellow Etsy sellers, I'd like to share a recent experience that may serve as a word of caution. My store, a new Print-On-Demand venture, strictly adhered to all of Etsy's regulations. We created all our products in-house, conducted thorough TESS searches for every listing, and even commercially licensed fonts to ensure we respected intellectual property rights. At no point did we sell Disney knockoffs or infringe upon anyone else's content or IP.
Our store utilized Printify's top-rated vendors, a detail fully disclosed on our platform, aligning with Etsy's best practices for POD businesses. Despite this, our shop was unexpectedly closed without explanation. When we sought clarity from Etsy, the responses were generic, offering no concrete reason for the action taken.
This isn't a narrative about financial loss but a call to action for greater operational transparency from Etsy. Our story stands as a crucial reminder to the community, including those who staunchly support Etsy, that without warning, your store could be at risk, despite rigorous adherence to compliance and ethical business conduct. It underscores the importance of having safeguards and open communication channels, especially when it comes to the livelihoods of independent sellers on such platforms.

I was a seller for about five months. I had five star reviews. Once a buyer purchased my product and requested a return. I foolishly reimbursed his money and he never returned it. Customer service provided absolutely zero help and pretty much told me I had to take care of it on my own. I sent four or five emails to the purchaser and they never replied. I even sent them postage for it. Next I sold an object for $80 and received $35 from them. It was impossible to even send a complaint about that. Now they suspended my account without any explanation. When I requested a review, they wanted to know how I would fix the problem when I had zero idea what the problem was. They then said my request for reinstatement was denied. They even blocked my ability to even buy anything on there. Don’t ever buy anything or sell anything on there. Their customer service is non-existent and only want to milk sellers and buyers of money.

Two days before the delivery date, the seller from the USA sends a message saying the item is out of stock due to high demand, please wait another two weeks. After two more weeks and again, it was not being shipped I put in a request to the seller for a refund. The next day I received an email from Etsy.com saying the seller had closed their website and couldn't be contacted. I clicked on the seller's website and checked my order, sure enough, it shows it no longer exists. I don't think the seller ever had the item.
Etsy then emailed me saying they would intervene and give a full refund. Two days later the money was in my account. Luckily I got a refund but I will never buy from Etsy again. There are too many dodgy sellers on there. Take a look at the previous reviews, it's the same old story as mine with many sellers being told the item is not in stock. I've been a seller on Etsy for quite some time, managing two distinct shops, "Shop A" and "Shop B." Unfortunately, my journey as an Etsy seller has been nothing short of a frustrating nightmare, leading me to give this platform a rating of 0 stars. My ordeal began when "Shop B" was suspended by Etsy's automated bots. The reason cited was violation of their handmade policy. I suspect it's because of the same images we have on other marketplaces, such as Amazon Handmade. Etsy's response was swift, but far from fair. They sent alarming emails to my customers, warning them of potential order issues, even when orders were already in transit with tracking numbers. Automatic refunds were issued, leaving customers bewildered and my payment account drained. Shockingly, I couldn't even message my customers to assure them, as Etsy disables messaging when a shop is suspended.
Etsy's appeal process for suspended shops is deeply flawed. Sellers like me are denied the opportunity to speak to a human representative or provide documentation to prove the handmade nature of our items. Instead, we're left with no option but to admit fault and promise compliance with policies. If you're not guilty, it doesn't seem to matter. My appeal was unsuccessful, and most disheartening of all, they continued to also suspend my other "Shop A" – a completely different product line with no prior issues. Overnight, I lost income from both shops.
Adding insult to injury, Etsy's handling of payouts has been baffling. When my shops received a sudden surge of orders due to Google Ads, Etsy placed reserves on my payouts for months at a time. Their automated systems flagging suspicious activity resulted in a financial setback. Equally distressing is Etsy's complete lack of seller support. Buyers frequently open cases instead of engaging in communication with sellers, leading to automatic refunds without sellers even being informed. The absence of meaningful support and communication is nothing short of shocking. Etsy seems to want sellers to generate profits for them but fails miserably in providing the necessary support and fairness. My experience with Etsy has been a disheartening one, and I would strongly advise fellow sellers to save themselves time, effort, and frustration by exploring alternative platforms that truly value and support their sellers.

To an individual in Massachusetts! I reside in North Carolina. After a forever search for a contact number to Etsy, I was told that I had to wait another three days to open a case! Even though the proof was in printed ink! Adding insult to injury, I waited the three days and, after another day, was reimbursed by Etsy.
Well, mid-August I purchased an item from a shop. Again, I waited patiently, while items from other vendors had arrived in a timely manner. Again I attempted to contact this shop, without any success. And again, I was notified that my item had been delivered... To an individual in St. Paul, Minnesota! After fifteen years of shopping on Etsy, I think I will cut ties for a while and shop elsewhere. Buyer beware... We all know that scammers are everywhere, but I feel Etsy's silly policy should reflect this and when an incident occurs, expedite the refund process so the buyer, or customer, feels that Etsy cares. The buyer won't suffer, they will go elsewhere... The good and honest vendors will lose out.

My recent encounter with Etsy has been nothing short of a catastrophe, and I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience. I entered into this venture with high hopes of opening my own online store, but Etsy's sheer incompetence and lack of transparency have shattered those dreams. First and foremost, Etsy failed to follow through on their promise of opening my online store. Despite their enticing claims of providing a user-friendly platform for selling handmade products, the reality was starkly different. I meticulously followed their guidelines and completed all the necessary steps, only to discover that my store had never actually been established.
To make matters worse, Etsy began billing me fees for a store that was nothing more than a mirage! I received invoices for services I never received and products I never sold. It's painfully evident that Etsy is solely interested in wringing every last penny from its users, regardless of whether they deliver on their promises. When I attempted to address this issue with Etsy, their customer support was conspicuously absent. They deactivated their 800-number, making it nearly impossible to get in touch with a live representative. Submitting a ticket online proved to be a Herculean task, and the response time was measured in days or even weeks. It's as if Etsy couldn't care less about their customers' concerns and is solely focused on extracting more money.
Now, here's the real kicker: Etsy has the audacity to demand payment for these fraudulent fees before they'll even consider closing my store, which never actually existed! It's a blatant attempt to extort money from me, and it's beyond disgraceful. In conclusion, my experience with Etsy has been a complete and utter disaster. They failed to fulfill their promises, billed me for services that never materialized, and demonstrated an utter disregard for customer service and ethics. I strongly advise anyone contemplating using Etsy to seek out a more reliable and ethical platform for their online store needs. My encounter with Etsy as a platform for selling products has left me deeply dissatisfied and frustrated. In my opinion, Etsy is one of the worst companies to work with as a seller. When I initially joined Etsy, I believed it would be an excellent platform to showcase and sell my products. However, I quickly realized that the support and assistance provided by Etsy were severely lacking. The experience has been fraught with numerous challenges and disappointments.
One of the key issues I encountered was the inconsistent enforcement of their rules and policies. Etsy tends to favor buyers over sellers, often neglecting to adequately address disputes or protect sellers' interests. This lack of fair treatment undermines trust and discourages sellers from investing their time and effort into the platform.
Furthermore, the customer service offered by Etsy is incredibly disappointing. It is exceedingly difficult to reach a real person for assistance, and when you do, the responses are often vague, unhelpful, or automated. It is disheartening to see a company prioritize customer service so poorly, as it ultimately affects the experience for both buyers and sellers. Additionally, Etsy's fees and charges are excessive compared to the value and support they provide. The fees eat into sellers' profits significantly, making it challenging to maintain a sustainable business on their platform. In my opinion, this is a significant flaw in Etsy's structure that requires immediate attention.
Overall, my experience with Etsy as a seller has been extremely negative. The lack of consistent enforcement of rules, inadequate customer service, and excessive fees have made it clear that Etsy has little regard for the success and satisfaction of their sellers. In light of these experiences, I cannot in good conscience recommend Etsy as a platform for selling products. There are numerous alternative platforms available that provide better support, fairer policies, and a higher level of customer service. Please note that this review reflects my personal experience and opinion as a seller on Etsy. Others may have had different experiences, but it is important to consider these aspects before deciding to sell products on the platform.

I've purchased several things from Etsy without issue. Attempting to sell, however, is a nightmare. As a seller, Etsy has done nothing but waste my time. I recommend steering clear of their immensely frustrating nonsense. After I changed my phone number, I was locked out of my Etsy shop with the only option being a sad dance with their seemingly outsourced customer service department. First, I had to verify my identity, which makes sense. But when I got one of the requested bits of information incorrect - they wanted last four of the card on file and I wasn't sure which I'd registered - they added four more, different items of information for me to provide in order to prove who I am. It's like I was being punished, even though I could still provide the correct one with another attempt.
We went back and forth, they were polite and flowery in the typically awkward language of outsourced help, and it was a different rep handling the case in each subsequent contact. This went on for a while, five or six exchanges, until finally it was resolved and I regained access. They apologized and seemed to care, but it didn't do much to soothe my frustration, as I believe a phone number change ought not cripple anyone, especially with a company this large. It's as though they had never handled a simple number change.
Once back in the account, I tried to list an item and repeatedly got a red-banner error message on the top of my screen. Okay, time to contact the clowns again. They apologized again, stated that their engineering department was aware of the issue and was working to resolve it. The same error thwarted me for three days, and finally I closed my account and sent them one more e-mail letting them know they are extra lame.
Shortly thereafter, I re-opened the account out of desperation to list some items that aren't moving on Facebook Marketplace. e-Bay sucks, too, so they aren't even a consideration at this point. Upon re-opening the account and attempting to list an Adidas watch, here came more problems, here was even more frustration. It really doesn't end.
The listing options asked who made the item, and I clicked "someone else" which, according to them, indicates another person or company. Ok, sounds good. But wait, it's not good, because etsy is terrible at simple things. Now the system wants to know who my production partner is, and what role I played in the design, i.e. what is my relationship to the maker? So, I backed up and selected "I made it" so their system would quit the squawking. I submitted the listing, it didn't appear in my shop, and instead I received an e-mail that "oops, it looks like your item is counterfeit." Oops indeed...my mistake for trying.
I have closed the shop again and messaged them again that they are an utter waste. I highly un-recommend Etsy to anyone who values their time at all. It is a waste. And even if they resolve this issue, what's in store later if I continue to list on their platform? What surprises will I encounter once locked in with a bunch of listings? How else will they thwart my efforts to earn much needed money? Only etsy knows.
Moving on to Shopify, even though it seems tricky...setting up a page, promoting my own shop, and whatever else Shopify entails. Run from Etsy. Run somewhere worth your while. It's unfortunate that I'm here reviewing them in this way, but then somehow validating to know there are so many others reviewing similarly.

I made a $400.00 purchase with Etsy. I went to check out to pay for my purchases. I had the money to cover my purchases. So I pay for them and my bank card said they received the money. In a few minutes I get a notification and email stating that my order was cancelled. I knew I had the money in my account so it wasn't that. I tried to go back to check out and resubmit my payment but it wouldn't even let me leave my cart. So I make a different account under a different email and purchase the same items. Same thing happens.
I can NOT make a purchase from this company for some odd reason. They send an email stating several reasons that either my bank didn't have the funds or the sellers wasn't accepting my payment type and they weren't allowed to contact the sellers, and so forth. They lost a $400.00 purchase. I am very disappointed, confused, frustrated, and upset. I will NOT try buying from this company again.
Oh also to top things off. I lost two items that I was going to purchase. They were from independent sellers and I had to buy directly from them. When I went to buy from them the cost near doubled because of fees. I stopped payment on those. Etsy may have good prices but the trouble it takes to receive those good prices aren't worth it. I want to purchase my items with ease and know when I pay for something I'm going to get it. I also don't want to have to make several purchases from different vendors and pay higher prices. They don't tell you this when ordering by the way. I'll continue with Walmart or other companies. I'm trying Temu so I'll let you know how that one goes.

They said it was okay that they will get me my money back. After some back and forth I did install it but stopped right away and said I would cancel it through PayPal. He proceeded to tell me to go ** myself and calling me bad names. Just continued for about 3 min. I called back to talk to a Manager, he said he was a manager, and asked me to install AnyDesk again. I said NO and HE proceeded to tell me to go ** myself among other things. I want to talk to a CS person in the US not overseas. I will pull my business and promote elsewhere.

I am frustrated with the ETSY and their website! I had several attempts to open a shop, but this website gave me multiple errors in setting up my shop. I submitted all the required valid documents for verification, however, the process was frozen at one step every time, and I could not go back or forward (to complete or redo) for one week!
I contacted their support several times, but their instruction and help were useless and could not resolve the issue with their website. (for example, they sent me a link that gave me errors again!! ) Sorry, but I saw this website as unreliable and I don't think it will be safe enough for the business. I just closed my account and I hope the information that I submitted so far (including my Bank account info, Driver's license, home utility Bill, and Credit Card information) will remain Confidential and Secured in their database. Not recommending ETSY Sellers!

On one hand Etsy doesn't seem to care much about who sells what on Etsy, considering it being a paradise for price dumpers and sellers of cheap ** bulk commodities who destroy prices for any serious shop owner. On the other hand they randomly deactivate listings and suspend accounts with no given reasons and with brutality and ruthlessness destroy within the blink of an eye what people have build up over a long period of time as a serious business. Their highly incompetent "support" team rather reacts with arrogance and arbitrary rulings. Fairness and reason are replaced by a "might is right" bully mentality. Support in the actual sense is simply nonexistent. For them only money counts. This place is overall a very hostile environment for sellers.

I just opened my shop and was lucky enough to have 2 sales (we won't get into how their fees equaled 30% of the sale). I received an email that Etsy will now be holding 30% of my money for future sales. There was a list of reasons why having to do with shipping and customer service. None of these reasons applied to the sales I had made. I reached out to customer service and got the runaround. I was told that they could not specifically tell me why because of the 'integrity' of the system. It seems to me that Etsy is holding on to sellers money and collecting interest while said money sits in their bank until they release the funds. Etsy and integrity? Hmm I think not.

I hated the fabric, it was so syntheticy, too large and the print colors were too sharp. I wrote and asked for a refund. No refunds. I asked where to send the blouse. I was willing to try to exchange it since I was stuck. No returns or exchanges. This is why she avoided giving me an address repeatedly. I am out $31? This policy is not advertised anywhere. How can they do this? Pity, Etsy used to be a wonderful co.

They have hidden my account so I would get no orders and the last effort to shut down my account was to false claim my tax information wasn't incorrect. The customer service sucks and they resort to playing mind games instead of helping. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. This is not the same company when it first launch. It's been bought out by criminals.

I've been selling on Etsy on and off for the last 10 years. I recently opened up a shop 8 months ago. A true achievement, as it was doing very well, and I put a 110% into it. Reaching over 100 listings, I typically lose interest in many things but This was something I was proud of. In the beginning of July, I received an email from etsy stating my shop was suspended. At the end of the back and forth emails from the automated system, they stated "we can not disclose why we closed down the shop".
To contact someone on etsy is a headache. The fees, the buyers, the layout, personally I'd make your own website. As you spend so much money on marketing for the shop you are marketing etsy as well. I spend a lot in just using their ads. Marketing my shop but marketing etsy because people shop around, etsy is no help if you need them. You will be talking to a robot, or be talking to people who don't understand what you are asking. Spend the time and open your own website, you'll have way better results.

Etsy is very difficult to conduct business with. They go out of their way to avoid customer service by phone and hide their number well online. Impossible to get a phone number for this company. The ones I found were no longer working. They have a chat on their website that is also useless. It's a robot who has no clue what you are talking about when you type in your issue. I want to make several purchases but have questions before buying. The site is slight on details and urges you to reach out to the "seller." Etsy is the seller and I don't care who provides them the products.
When I tried to reach out to the seller, I got a chat box and was told it would take 2 hours or more for someone to respond. Really? Who has 2 hours to monitor a chat box and wait for someone to magically appear there? Take down the chat boxes for both Etsy and "sellers" and start delivering some customer service. I can imagine Etsy is losing a lot of potential sales due to its very poor customer experience.

I use to sell on Etsy but everything about this site is horrible. The fees to sell and renew your items plus taxes, etc. things I didn't even know about were deducted from a product I would sell. The customers could be scammers and Etsy would always side with them and give them a refund without you even knowing. You hardly make any profit from this site because Etsy takes pretty much half. Go to another site that sales your products. You would do much better.

Think twice before you order from ETSY.... I assumed ETSY vetted sellers, and stood behind buyers purchases from their platform.... WRONG! Not only do they not stand behind the buyer, if you unknowingly buy from a fraudulent seller ON THE ETSY PLATFORM, and that seller does not send the items, ETSY REFUSES to assist when you deny the charge and BLOCKS IT! After 2 months, ETSY simply blames the credit card company and states policy pretty much blaming the buyer.... BEWARE.... Buy elsewhere.

I have used the appeal feature 5 times now, I have yet to get a reason for the suspension, let alone a single reply. I used to sell on this platform until they stole from me. I had a buyer dispute a purchase, this is fine, and disagreements happen. Within 7 days, Etsy took the money out of my account and refunded the buyer his money without expecting him to return my product back to me. I attempted to contact the buyer both directly by email as well as through the Etsy app multiple times with each communication including a prepaid return label with no luck. Etsy was NO help, so, I escalated things. I filed a police report for theft (see attached) and let him know I was going to consult an attorney & he would be liable for any & all collection expenses, OR, just simply return my stolen merchandise.
After threatening civil action, Etsy paid me my money back then promptly cut me off. I sell on Ebay, Mercary & Poshmark as well and have never had this issue. I get returns, and any online business will. The difference is all of them require I verify the product made it back to me before they refund the buyer. Just be careful. Etsy is not afraid to take your money, give it to the buyer with ZERO expectations you get your merchandise back. I have tried to upload the police report, but, it won't accept a PDF file?

The second order for the same item (different color and size and shipping addressed) was ordered and also was processed and deducted from my bank. The first order, no confirmation, order number, anything from them - attempted to resolve thru their help center/messaging. Never heard a word from them and eventually PayPay credited me back. The second order was process fine with appropriate order number, shipping information, etc provided, it seems to be on it way.
In attempting to get closure on the first one, forget it! No response, collaboration or resolution. Not one word from them or the vendor. The Good: Etsy is an attractive, e~commerce website without question. And it does have a very good search feature for what you look for. Its messaging system, to contact buyers, is fairly good {Not as good as Ebay's, not absolutely horrible like Mercari's}. When you buy something, the checkout works very smoothly... After that, you had better hope that the purchase turns out good... Because if you have *any* problem on Etsy, then that's when your problems compound. Etsy primarily wants you to work only through the seller.
Imagine you walk into a store, and want to return something. There's no one around, no signs. You wander through the store for 20 minutes looking for some kind of customer counter. In the back of the store, you see some metal doors, with no signs on them, but you go through them. You see some boxes around, shelves, and an employee bathroom. Then you see a side room, with the small door open, and a light on. You walk over and peer in. Inside, a person is sitting at a desk. They look up, and ask, "May I help you?" "Yes, I need to return something. Where do I go?", you answer. "Right here", they respond... That's Etsy.
