Company pays under what the item is listed for, Company collects VAT/GST and leaves you hanging with the bill. Company does not release funds for item sold with TAX/VAT/GST and leaves you to foot the bill with Dept. of Revenue and other country's GST/VAT. Company collects amount of sale and taxes, and pays less than what you are selling for. NY Gangsters operating this outfit, Stealing money from the lil guy and the mom and pop businesses.

What should be a great site. They are allowing scam artist to freely steal the money of hard working people, treating actual businesses like they should treat these scam artists who are displaying one product and sending a completely different item if they send anything at all. Sellers are being shut down and charged for whatever they come up with, no communication other than closing your account without notice and don't assist upset customers with actual complaints. They steal from sellers. Example I should not be paying shipping when my customers are paying me for that. I am missing over 100 dollars just for shipping and their math is horribly off. They rob you as a seller And as a customer. Don't waste your money unless you know the store is legit. Request physical personal pictures from the seller and then do a reverse search on the picture. If a person is legit they have no issues getting you proof of the products they sell.

The listing of the hat/cap showed a really nice cap. It looked to be good quality. However!... The hat was single stitch barely correct paths. I was embarrassed to put it on. Hat was flat in a bag. It was purely bad. They said they would give me half my money back. They know it is junk. DO NOT BUY. I hardly ever write a bad review. This deserved one.

Okay so I've never had any problems with Etsy in the past; I've purchased cute things but it also isn't a platform I use often to buy so I never thought I'd have an issue with them until now. Recently, however, I noticed four unauthorized purchases that I NEVER made (for $2000+). I freaked out because this meant my account was severely compromised and I reached out to Etsy both phone AND email support and have not heard from them. I was on hold for almost an hour but nobody answered. Fortunately, my cards have not been used in this case (which is alarming for someone else I'm sure) for these odd purchases but the seller's profile is super sketchy/probably fake. I've never received any notifications on my "purchase confirmation" either which was why I am now noticing weeks later. I've just decided to close my account entirely. So much for their "24/7 customer service." *eye roll*

I am so disappointed in the lack of support I have received from Etsy. As a shop owner, I pay monthly fees on top on sale fees and plus more if you actually what your shop to be advertised, if you don't pay for advertising fees it's almost impossible for consumers to find your store. I recently had a customer make a purchase from my shop that was from o/s. I had to refund the order as I don't sell items internationally. I then went to refund the order as I did this is it came up with an error, I contacted support online to help with this issue. Support said to keep on trying to issue the refund, on my app, desktop and different internet browsers. So this is what I did with no success, I then notice my bank had suspended my account due to numerous transactions made from Etsy.

Every time I tried to refund Etsy took $15 out of my account (I am not sure why I have to pay $15 for a refund to my customer). The support said I had not issued a refund and could not see any issue. I then asked for a contact number to talk with someone to help me. Etsy sent the phone number, I called the number which then redirected me to online support. The online support I was already speaking with could not help me and said they would pass this on, this was 4 days ago and I have still not heard anything.

I sold an item for $79, I received a total of $51 from Etsy then they are trying to charge me another $15 for a refund. I have sent a number of requests to fix this issue with still no response. I am very disappointed, it is so hard to find help when you need it. Shop owners, please beware and consumers if you like a product you see on Etsy go to their website and purchase. :)

All I will say is once I made one mistake (according to their unfair fake policies) they not only deactivated my account but I still have not received the money from the items customers bought from me.. In my opinion it's best to start your own business and make your own rules, cut out the middle man for issues like this.

This Shop sells steering wheel covers and I waited and waited and waited. Finally I decided to contact the seller AnselMaggieShop and of course he would not answer my messages. Finally I tried to track the package. Come to find out the tracking number was fake. It was my receipt number instead of a real tracking number. When I brought it to his attention he pretends as though he didn't know what I was talking about and also saying the wrong steering wheel cover name. He been lied and said that a piece of my order was lost in the mail, how in the world can you lose a piece of a steering wheel cover? Then I knew he was lying. When I caught the cellar in his lies he canceled my order so that I would not leave a review. I tried to support these little companies but this has made it really bad. I will never buy from Etsy again. Customer service really sucks.

I thought Etsy was a trusted place to shop. I was wrong. I got scammed by some kind of "operation" which claimed to be out of CO but wrote with bad/broken/incomprehensible English. It seems I did not buy quality furniture at all but rather some drop ship junk that did not match what was featured in the shop photos. The shop closed immediately after I made my purchase, which was a HUGE red flag. Despite this, Etsy had no mechanism for immediate action to reverse the scam. Thank goodness for Visa, who reversed the charge immediately. Etsy would rather I had waited and finished out the scam before doing anything. I will never shop on Etsy again!

Several days later I checked the tracking & it was not updating. It stated “usps awaiting item”. I contacted the seller once again & he said he would just refund my money as they were still delays, which he did. He stated he would still send the item to apologize for the delays. I have not received anything. It was all a ruse. Do not order from this seller. I contacted Etsy who basically didn’t want to know about it. First & last time ordering from Etsy.

I love shopping on Etsy but one new tweak to the site is ridiculous. You need to be able to see pictures of the item you bought. They no longer store a picture of the item, so there is no way of examining the items picture, if say you have an issue and are checking to see if damage was evident in a photo. Or to review the listing's description. Which is ludicrous in an online shopping venue. You also can not see sellers former sales, to get a look at things they made before so you can ask a seller if a custom item can be made like something they crafted in the past. If you can't see previous work you have no way of knowing what is within their range of product production. Surely this cuts into the purchase numbers on custom orders. Custom orders keep many artists in business as there is generally a mark up for customizing items. The sales link operated like portfolio.

It's very important that you be able to view listing photos of an item you purchased. I had one item come that did not look anything like what I remembered. So I tried to look at the item and there is no longer a picture of it. I ordered a rug and was about to shop for items to go with it, only to click a second after purchase and the only thing one can now see is the teeny blurry icon photo, so I could not save it to my Pinterest, or see what other items on the site might go with it, That's lost income for sellers. I went to fetch an item description to remind myself of the items length on a string of beads, gone, so instead of making the purchase I was going to make to go along with them, that sale didn't happen. Listing pictures should be viewable until feedback is registered. It's a vital part of the buying and selling process.

Left an honest purchase review for a seller with one legitimate criticism but also praised him and his work overall and he sent me a string of emails calling me "hateful, threatening, and harassing." I was floored, contacted seller Etsy, asked them to look at my review and at messages sent between me and the seller to see that nothing was hateful, etc. The response was "You should try to work it out with the seller". The seller broke THEIR rules; and I am supposed to "work it out".

In another instance I paid $50 for an item from a seller and made the payment. The Paypal payment didn't go through (said it did on my end, the seller said he never got it) so I told the seller that I would send it again and he replied, "You can buy this again but the price now will be $100!" Contacted Etsy (you have to really HUNT on their website to find the customer "chat" option and if you call, you're lucky if someone answers) and two different reps told me to contact: PAYPAL! Really? I need to contact Paypal because an Etsy seller doubled the price when I told him that I'd send another payment because of a Paypal glitch? The issue wasn't the payment it was the seller's opportunistic behavior! Imagine going into a store, swiping your credit card, getting an error message, with the seller telling you, "Try it again but the price will be double this time."? I pointed this out to a rep and was told - "Try to work it out with the seller".

Several years ago I noticed that an Etsy seller was using photos and descriptions for an item that he took from a website that's actually owned by a friend. This violated Etsy rules. I contacted Etsy, was told "Work it out with the seller". It took multiple attempts by me to actually find someone who took my complaint seriously. The seller's store was removed, but good grief.

I actually LIKE Etsy, really nice things for sale and most of the sellers are great, but if there's a problem with a seller breaking rules or acting unethically, or an issue with a store selling something that violates Etsy policy, Etsy reps want you to do all the work, or they don't get what you're saying to them, or you get the impression that their managers don't want to get involved. Occasionally you'll get a customer service rep who's great but that isn't the norm, and lately (even pre-pandemic) you get the impression that Etsy now has a customer service staff of three people who use different screen names all the time.

I received a defective headboard from a merchant that had pieces from the design missing. I had pointed out the flaws to the seller before it was shipped and he shipped it anyway. When the board arrived in person, another piece fell off. But because the additional piece fell off after arrival, neither the seller or Etsy would take responsibility for the pre-existing damage to the headboard. The merchant was very rude and the Esty admin took over a month to reply with only three sentences that said my only recourse was to file a claim with PayPal. Additionally, there are identical headboard designs being sold on other marketplaces like Amazon, Overstock, and Wayfair. This is also supposedly against Etsy policy but it is clear that because they make all their money from merchant fees, they do not have any incentive to provide customer service to the actual customers.

When I complained, I was told that in the description it states to buy and pay for each earring separately in order to receive the pair, that no one had complained about this prior to me (which I don't believe), and that I should have read the fine print. Who in heck thinks they need to read the fine print when purchasing a common pair of earrings! It isn't common business practice to sell one earring separately from the other, as the human body requires two earrings for two ears. To get my money back, I need to ship back to France from the U.S. the one earring I received at my expense. This is ridiculous. I feel that Etsy is complicit in this bad business practice by allowing this company, Colibri, to sell products at Etsy.com. I started selling on Etsy in 2012. My sales increased every year with 2018 being my best. Then in June of 2019 Josh Silverman (Etsy’s CEO) announced that Etsy would be cutting back on Google Ads in an effort to get sellers to pay for ads. That’s when my sales crashed. My sales for the second half of 2019 were 23% of the same period in the previous year and continue to drop. (And this was long before COVID-19). When they didn’t get the participation they wanted they implemented the Off-Site Ad program. Those whose sales are above 10K in a 12 month period are charged an additional 12% for every sale Etsy brought them through an Ad (mandatory) and those under 10K an additional 15%.

Those under 10K can opt out, but as with me I opted out and I’m getting no sales. This is in addition to the already 5% commission fee. The fees are charged against the entire total (item price + sales tax+ shipping costs). For many when this charge is figured against just the item price it can be as much as 30% or more. You may want to consider this before starting a shop on Etsy. I can’t afford to raise my prices that much and compete. I once made pretty good money to subsidize my S.S., now it is dead. In addition I don’t think Etsy is through finding more ways to charge more fees.

Only to tell me there is nothing they could do. Then told me I should open a case with paypal trying to take the responsibility away from themselves. Upon further research I have found that there are no safeguards for the buyer on Etsy. All you need to open a bogus store is a fake name and email.

Right away I realized I could not find my listings or shop when using my shop name and the keywords I used for my listings. Of course I had to chat with someone via the computer and they had to send an email to a different team for me to get an answer. After two days I did not receive a response. Tried again two days later and was told they had to send another e-mail. When I still didn't receive a response I responded to an e-mail I had for a different question customer service previously helped me with and asked for a phone number. I called and that person told me she had to send an email to a team that can't be accessed by phone; I agreed.

I waited a few more days and did not receive a response, called again, and was told the same thing. That was about a week ago and no response. I called again today and asked to speak with a supervisor and was told there is no one else to speak to and another message had to be sent. I told them I will be writing reviews for Etsy and letting everyone I know what happened to me and also I will be reporting this to the BBB. I’ve been selling on Etsy for more than a year, and have inculcated a total of over 1800 sales and hundreds of 5 star reviews. My shop was suspended abruptly for no valid reason or explanation 2 weeks ago, and I no longer had access to my account, orders or payments. Etsy stated that they would be holding my payments on freeze and I wasn’t even allowed to contact my existing customers to notify them about what’s happened.

Customer service on Etsy is absolutely disgusting, appalling and rude. Their policies are contradictory, shambolic and diabolical at best. At first, we’d thought it was just us. But after doing our own research and reading genuine Trustpilot reviews and news articles, we have found a plethora of top sellers who were also unfairly taken down. These were top sellers with over 10,000 to 30,000 sales, selling handmade goods from their own homes, and even sellers who’ve been selling for more than 10 years.

Thankfully, we’ve always had our own website. So Etsy kicking us off isn’t a huge deal. It however served as a threat to our business reputation as customers from Etsy thought that we were “scamming” them when Etsy is the one who withholds the payments and disallows suspended sellers to even interact with customers. I understand where these customers are coming from, as I’ve bought bracelets for myself 2 months ago off an Etsy seller whose shop got shut down after - and my money was never returned. This wasn’t the seller’s fault, as her store was taken down by Etsy, not on her own accord.

Selling on Etsy isn’t what it used to be anymore. Years ago, Etsy used to be a fantastic platform for vintage and handmade sellers. Yet now, it’s infested with sellers who resell from Aliexpress, ironic to think that Etsy takes genuine shops down and not fraud sellers. Our sales reached an all time high after departing from Etsy and operating full time on our website. Thank God we listened to an ex seller’s advice who told us to always have a website even if we were doing well on Etsy. We genuinely wouldn’t have had the success we have today if it wasn’t for the woman’s advice.

I started a store back in 2012 on Etsy as an artist and seamstress. I was thrilled there was finally a marketplace that specialized in hand-made not mass-produced. It was difficult dealing with some buyers as they were used to purchasing items that were not hand-made, and complained of the price- I offered a Victorian skirt out of dupioni silk from a 100 year old pattern and sewn with an industrial machine and cloth covered buttons I made myself. It was quality for a wedding or reenactment but buyers were comparing it to cheap costuming shop listings. So there are always issues with a lack of education or finding your niche. That being said I thought if customers went to Etsy specifically for hand-made that they would be knowing what they are paying for. That is originality, rarity, and quality. But now after being a buyer these days I can see why this is happening- buyers are confused.

Sometimes you get real hand-crafted items and that makes you think it is the case for all of them, and if you are asked to pay higher you see it as justified without looking into the seller or you see sellers way under-pricing their items to please customers and now it is even worse because so many items labeled as hand-made are actually found on Amazon or AliExpress or Alibaba... priced like it is hand-made. 3 times as much. I myself got sucked in and had to cancel an order because I saw good reviews on a shop but had I looked into amazon and typed in the type of sweatshirt I was wanting. It was not an $80 on sale for $40 unique item, it was a $16 one by several sellers with ** quality and the Etsy seller had even stole the same model pics.

Bottom line- you have to do your research as a buyer thoroughly on a listing and the owner and shop as well as do a google search- for one to not get scammed and two, be a decent buyer if the seller is legit and pay what it is worth, and if it is selling for too cheap- let the seller know. It is not only the platform and it allowing so much fraud, but also sellers and buyers not knowing the value of what they are paying for- for better or worse.

I have been selling on Etsy since 2017. I have always had 5 star reviews prior to Covid-19, when many set-backs befell us including illness and parcels that were delayed for months through Fedex. I was not unhappy that Etsy refunded my clients, but when I started to look closely into what all of this was costing me, I realized that Etsy was taking way more than the fees I had signed on for. Example: I just had a sale for $32.50 + $22 Postage. That adds up to $54.50. Etsy deposited only $41 of that to my account.

By the time I take off the postage cost, that leaves me with only $19. By the time I remove the cost of the actual product, I am left hanging onto $3. If I consider the fact that I paid to list this piece, I am left with even less. None of this accounts for my transportation costs to get to the villages where I collect my products. Yes - Etsy has stolen so much from my hard work, that I have actually lost money on this transaction - and now am realizing that almost every sale I've put through over the past year, has been subject to the same. I had no idea Etsy was stealing so much from me. I can no longer afford to do this as a hobby-job, which is sad because I support a lot of indigenous artists.

Another tactic Etsy has pushed on merchants over the past two years, is a call for free shipping. We small merchants are NOT Amazon - we cannot afford to include the price of shipping in our prices. NOT ONLY THAT - many buyers purchase multiple pieces. If they purchase 3 different items, and I've included the cost of the shipping into the product, that means the customer has been charged the shipping cost THREE TIMES. This is absolutely criminal and should be against the law.

I am now in the process of deactivating everything on my Etsy account and looking for a new platform. This criminal company is not loyal to their merchants, who built Etsy's empire. This criminal company may refund customers who are unsatisfied, which IS good on Etsy's part - customers should be safe to purchase online. That said, I wonder how many of these customers realize that the FREE SHIPPING was just a marketing ploy, and if they purchased more than one item at a time, they were charged postage for every item, when in reality, it costs the same to ship 3 items as it does to ship one (most of the time). Buyer Beware. This is a corrupt, heartless, thieving company that deserves to be exposed for the corporate greed they hide using smoke and mirrors.

What a shame I didn't read these reviews before starting my store on Etsy. Disgusting attitude towards sellers. I have never met such a tough and boorish relationship, a huge commission, and in addition, your store can be closed without explanation. After 6 months of work, my store was closed without explanation, simply because we no longer need you and the quote “do not try to place an order or a new store”. Do you think this is very nice?

Firstly I was very disappointed to hear this from you. I am an artist and due to the pandemic it is very difficult to do business and here is some more news! I don’t understand at all what I could have done wrong: I immediately sent orders, I paid the Etsy bills in full, I haven’t got any bad review. So I do not understand at all how I could deserve such a cruel and categorical attitude. And in addition, you are depriving me of my main human right: the human right to defend one's honor and dignity. This is Franz Kafka, not otherwise. You are accused of something, but what - guess for yourself. Just a week ago I set up an Etsy store on Facebook, before that I spent a lot of time learning, before that: filling out listings according to the Etsy standard. And now you just take my case away from me and just let me know.

Ok, I agree with your decision, if only because I have no desire to give away a huge part of MY earnings, which I earned on my own (unlike you, who earn on others) with those who can only wield a whip, imagining at the same time that they are someone WITHOUT CREATORS. But you forget about karma. Let the same come back to you. You deserve it. and, believe me, I am not going to place a single order on your lightly salted website, which was lost somewhere in the 90s, so you shouldn't worry about it.

Sorry, but what a **. Right here, right in front of our nose, is the slavery of the 21 century (where skin color doesn't matter). What sellers does Etsy need? He came up with it himself, implemented it himself, created the listing himself, found a buyer himself, and after all this - pay the rent to Etsy. You don't even have to post a listing - just pay.

So here's what happened to me: The site appears to be for local artisans creating hand-made items or selling antiques or vintage items. Sometimes that is the case, especially with anything that is custom made to spec like clothing, doll clothing, engraving etc. However, if you're looking for something unique such as jewelry then you're in for some major frustration. It seems that no matter how unique something appears to be, "search Google for this image" will soon reveal that it's just another piece of garbage made in China that the "artist" has just ordered in bulk on Alibaba and taken their own photos. Some items I have seen listed as Hand Made and found them in the sale bin at Micheals or worse, the dollar store, and have been flipped onto Etsy making claims they can't possibly back up such as the type of alloy in the metal. I have also NEVER found a single piece of "vintage" or "antique" jewelry that I didn't find on another site within 10 minutes.

This is just the beginning of the unpleasant experience though. It gets worse. If a user starts harassing you and you go to file a complaint, you get an auto-response trying to up-sell you on their paid store service! In my case, the user had asked me if I agreed to communicate through personal e-mail and I had; weeks later the harassment began. The Etsy customer service tried to use this as an excuse to blame me for having been harassed and when I called them out on it I was ignored.

So these guys REALLY don't care about what happens to their customers, all they care about is people opening stores so that they can grab listings fees... I'm sticking with Ebay and if I want a unique piece of jewelry it's going to have to be commissioned from a local artist because the online market is so unbelievably saturated with Chinese garbage that there's no way to know what you're putting on your skin, what it's really made from and if it's actually hypoallergenic.

Due to tragic circumstances I no longer needed the item and, as of March 18, it had not been shipped so I sent a message to the seller stating. "If this item isn't shipped by tomorrow, please cancel." What followed was a 4 paragraph message from the seller berating me for "being rude." Appalled, I responded and several heated messages were sent back and forth (including info that the item had "just been shipped") until I was finally told by the seller to not contact again or I would be reported for abuse.

Again, I have ordered from Etsy for YEARS and have never had a problem with a seller, nor has a seller had a problem with me. I did submit a complaint directly to Etsy and am waiting for a reply. Then you are stuck with ridiculous dispute settling system from ETSY where they try their best to shift blame on PayPal. PayPal on the other hand, deems it as an authorized transaction. ETSY will keep you hanging by being casual about all this and hand out tickets. They tell you resolving this is high priority and promise to update but there are no messages or no communication on what they are doing. Meanwhile, you are stuck with a fraud of $1,300.

What is shocking for me is how easy it is for scammers to be on ETSY platform. Their customer service is nowhere close to Amazon. At least with amazon they refund your money asap and handle the problem later. The net result is that you are defrauded for a large amount of money. Right after I was defrauded I looked over the website and saw that there are so many different sellers on the platform which are like this. Beware, trust me. I have been selling on Etsy since 2007. Etsy is the only place that will charge you more per $1 earned than anywhere else. Etsy started punishing their best sellers in May 2020 by tacking on yet another fee. For anyone selling over $10,000 in a 12 month period they would be charged an additional fee of 11% for every sale that was purchased by the customer via Google, Facebook, etc. There is nothing in my 65 years that I can compare this too, where you are actually punished for succeeding. How would your child react if you were to tell them, "If you come home with straight A's again, you will be grounded". Or your boss tells you that you will be laid off if you double your work goals. Etsy has a "control issue", they have to have control over everything or you can't be there. Their fees consist of: listing fees, transaction fees on sales, transaction fees on shipping and now marketing fees.

Etsy ALSO makes money from the USPS, FedEx, etc. from making and pocketing the discount/kickbacks. Last but not least, since Etsy now collects the state sales taxes, they also get the kickbacks from the states for being the "collector". The sellers lost the ability of getting the kickbacks themselves from their Credit Card companies when Etsy forced their own payment system on everyone. We also lost our own sales tax kickbacks for collecting our own state sales tax. How about Etsy's accounting system? You will need to download several different forms to get all the info needed because Etsy accounting system. Etsy does NOT make your accounting easy. But hey they do offer a program to help you at an additional cost. (haha). Thinking of selling on Etsy? Then you deserve to know ALL OF THE COSTS for doing so.

I love that so many vendors offer beautiful, hand-crafted items. My orders usually arrive within a reasonable time-period, and I've only had 3 mixups -- all resolved -- where the wrong item was sent.

These are the issues I have with the site:
1) Cost of return shipping for items which don't work out can be VERY high -- often in the $50-$100 US dollar range, even if the item weighs very little. This is because many Etsy vendors are located overseas.
2) If you have an issue with an order, you may find yourself needing to communicate in a foreign language. I faced this situation and had to use online translation apps in an attempt to locate a missing package shipped from Romania.
3) Every vendor has different policies, so you must be careful to read the fine print before placing an order.

4) The Etsy support team is very courteous and helpful once you reach them, but that can take awhile -- contact and attempt to resolve your issue with the vendor is required first.

Security codes, passwords and emails rarely work properly, and once a person gets past that there's still the matter of Etsy not making it clear which stores we're actually shopping in, or which vendors! Which in turn creates horrible confusion! Especially at Christmas time. No one needs this kind of grief.

I bought some of my garden supplies from Etsy this last spring and I deeply regretted it because of all of the confusion and dysfunction. I don't know what made me think Christmas shopping on Etsy would be any easier. It was actually more difficult than my Springtime experience had been. The worse part is there's no one in charge to help with basic issues. I thought maybe it was just me at first, and then I shared my grievances on Facebook and people came out of the woodwork saying they had the exact same frustrating and infuriating experiences with Etsy. It's not the individual sellers or vendors that I have an issue with, just to be clear. My issue is at the corporate level where you can't get anyone to help with things that don't necessarily have to do with the individual vendors. Anyway, I'm done with the Etsy experience.

After 3 phone calls my account was unsuspended and I was promised payments in 5 days' time. I've had zero explanation, zero apology for what has happened. Deeply concerning that Etsy can withhold such a large sum of money. I no longer feel comfortable buying or selling with them and will be advising friends not to do business with them.

No table to log in, therefore no way to contact Etsy!? Now Etsy hold my customer money, I'm not able to contact with my buyer, nor Etsy Have no clue what going on, I lost the sale. Buyer out of his money for how long?! I don't know if I ever be able to know anything. There was no email or any other communication from Etsy why they whipped my account and left me in the dark. Now my store my name reputation severely damaged. BBB NY NY have about 960 one star review. Cant say anything about sellers, but definitively there are merchandise on the site clearly violate they policy. Watch out for the tricky 15% commission over the 8% if you think to start to sell there.

I faced scam in the 1st week, was able to detect and stop it. Watch out the current tracking number scam going on to rip you off!! Overall Etsy customer service not exist at all. How can they deactivate your store it the middle of transaction and the only way you can contact them if you sign in!? At this moment as far I know I had no violation since they approved the sell of my merchandise, holding the buyer money and banned me from Etsy without any explanation at all!!?? No matter what explanation they will have. My merchandise was 100% legal, on the top they collected hundreds of dollars from my buyer?!!!

Word of caution for the upcoming holyday shopping be aware it could happen to you on both side, seller, or buyer! Definitely there more honest seller and buyer on Etsy than bad apple, but then you have a company with no support at all!? There have to be fundamental change at Etsy, at this point from my terrifying experience I cannot recommend Etsy as a online venue at all.

Their customer service has no idea what is going on there. And their way of reviewing shops is absolutely ridiculous! What they don't tell you when you buy anything off of the website, is that you only have 100 days to review the item. Which means if you are a busy person or are awaiting photos to include in the review, then you are screwed. I wanted to leave a review for four different companies I purchased something from for my recent wedding, and I am unable to review any of them! I want potential customers to know how fantastic each of those companies are, yet I can't. And their customer service keep claiming there is no way of letting me do so. Oh please, I am no professional IT person, but I do know that every code for a website can be overwritten. They are just lazy, and do not care about their sellers. I feel bad for their sellers!

This was at the end of the month of October, their policy said that the following month I would be charged with a percentage for having that pair of listings, a total of $ .40, to my surprise, two days later and already in November, they discounted me $ 12 and also the $ .40. I tried to contact customer service but they have nothing that comes close to being able to speak to someone or among their questions, any answer to my situation. So I had to call my bank and cancel that payment, then I took both listings off their page because I realized that I was not there to deal with those problems. A month later, I receive an email that my payment was successful. Again the $ 12 plus the $ .40, when my listings lasted only 3 days. Terrible company. I recommend that you do not use it.

Etsy has so many hidden fees that are difficult to find in the fine print. Etsy made me feel robbed and now the most profit I can make because of the amount of fees deducted is $0.05. How is that possible when before these hidden fees were deducted, I could have potentially had a $15 profit. I am fed up with any lack of support from your company which has seemed to flag my account for fraud and is unable to admit it. I am done. I have probably spent about 3k in just a little over a year and have never had a problem until my last four orders. I am sick of no answers and I am sick of your inability to support my requests for an answer or any help in resolving my issues. I will do the same thing that I did with you what I did with adoreme when this happened during the holidays last year. I will close my account and never shop your site again! I am done - and with no way to contact you except chat with no results over two days and four sessions except for the same request for information I have given in the previous chats- which proves nothing if my account has been breached. In fact I have turned on 2fa - re-validated my phone number via text and changed my password.

Yet Etsy continues to think my account is fraud. I even add a new credit card to complete some holiday shopping in my name and they finally processed that order. I buy usually with the same vendors I have found and previously bought from and have not changed my shipping address - which by the way quite a few orders have shipped to over the last year - due to packages being stolen from my home - just like most other people - I had to get a ups store mailbox. The lack of frankness from your company and it hiding behind no contact except chat is ludicrous and there has not been a single purchase from the past year which has not been paid. There have been no complaints from the account holder which is me - so I am in awe of the ability for a company to continue to hide behind no information when directly asked. All they have to do is say the word fraud and then you can do nothing.

I don't even have a bill yet and they are already taking all of my sales income, including postage, to pay fees that aren't due until December. If you want to know why shops are taking money and closing up have a look at the business model. So far I have had to pay out over $150 in postage costs for items that I haven't received any money for. It isn't as if I am a new seller, I have been on etsy as shop since 2010 and never once had any overdue bills. When Etsy first came on the scene it was a marketplace for real artists to sell their goods. Over the years it has deteriorated into nothing more than a glorified flea market. People buy stuff on Amazon, mark it up, throw their name on it and sell it as “handmade”. One year around Christmas I purchased personalized pajamas for my family from another seller—and I’m kidding you not- the woman scammed her buyers by faking her own death (she posed as her own friend and claimed she committed suicide) and kept the money she collected for the PJs. Soon after she simply reopened her Etsy business under another name and they did nothing about it. Etsy used to care about the artist—or so they claimed— they only care about money.

I have a shop on Etsy. They have certain policies and guidelines and I believed that I stayed within them. They deactivated several of my listings for violating policy while allowing many other shop owners to advertise the same products and "violate" their policies without reproach. They have affected my income and my relationship with my customers with this unilateral and discriminatory practice. I brought this to their attention and they did nothing about it. They continue to allow other shops to sell all sorts of things violating their so-called policies.

The details are I sell herbal tinctures, herbs dissolved in an organic alcohol solution for preservation and extraction. I took away all medical claims that they could possibly help someone, as they said this was against their policy. Then they said I could not advertise anything with alcohol. Many other shops sell herbal tinctures and have a plethora of claims of how their tinctures can treat or heal certain illnesses, and are also made with alcohol. It's too many to count how many shops sell tinctures like this. In my opinion, this is a benign product and they are targeting certain shops and individuals for no apparent reason.

I also had keywords as tags (not an ingredient) on a leaf rattle I make, to help with search results, and they told me I could not use certain keywords even though there was nothing inherently wrong with those words and the word is not an ingredient, while there are other shops that sell the products with the keyword that they did not want, and all the ingredients (keyword) to make a psychedelic medicine. I am not selling anything psychedelic or illegal. However, they have deactivated my listings while others continue to sell the same product or "worse" without any redress in the situation.

This is blatant discrimination and they know it. There are many complaints like this where Etsy targets certain shop owners and leaves others alone, one can only assume it's because they're bringing in lots of money for them. Small home-based Artisans don't have the money to hire an attorney to fight these matters and they're taking advantage of these people. It is not only ethical but unconscionable. The public should know about this!

I usually don't write reviews on products and services, but I am a big advocate of customer service and consumer psychology. I created an Etsy account in 2017 but didn't order from them until late August 2020. My very first order took 2.5 weeks to receive from Texas and I currently live in Michigan until the end of the year. I figured because of COVID-19. After doing my OWN investigation, I found out that her local USPS facility was having shipping issues. I had to contact her LOCAL SENATOR to get help with my order. My second order arrived on time. My third order has not arrived yet. My fourth order arrived on time. And I’m waiting on my fifth order. I have found out that Etsy is not 100% accurate when it comes to shipment tracking. My third order was shipped on October 12, 2020, from California, and I have not received it yet. On Etsy, it says that the order was shipped by USPS, but the tracking number isn’t even correct on the USPS tracking website.

I called my local post office, and she said USPS never received the shipping label and that the tracking number I received is NOT a USPS tracking number, but Etsy said it was shipped by USPS. I had to do my OWN investigation again and found out that my order was shipped by Pitney Bowes. Pitney Bowes??? Etsy didn’t list Pitney Bowes as a carrier and my seller had no idea what I was talking about. Etsy needs to work on customer service. If you call them, you might not get a callback. There is no call center and you can’t talk to a live representative. Shipping cost too much, especially for an item(s) arriving in a 5x7 or 8x10 envelope. When I reported the following scam of a cheating seller's activities on Etsy, the Etsy support staff said to me: "You can rest assured that sellers who continually demonstrate an inability to fulfill business obligations in a professional, honest manner are permanently removed from our marketplace". However, not only it is not happening, but the seller cheated more to even the Etsy support, the support staff offered to gave me $50 gift card. But since it is to cover up the scammer's cheating, I told the Etsy support staff that I won't take it. Money is not everything.

Here is what happens: (1) In early August, an Etsy seller MaljiArts took my family member George's order of a carving of sandalwood item for US$900 that shipping in 25 days, with US$500 deposit and balance of US$400 payable before shipping the item. But MaljiArts never worked on this order seriously; (2) I assisted with this order of wood carving item. MaljiArts made me work very hard for two months to teach him how to correct all his negligent mistakes by describing the meanings of George's design. Until On 30th September, MaljiArts suddenly stopped replying to my messages.

(3) I reported this problem to Etsy Chat staff because I could not reach MaljiArts. Thereafter, an Etsy support staff informed me that he has contacted MaljiArts and MaljiArts suddenly messaged me to ask a question of George's design detail. (4) The Etsy support staff also advise me to "keeping a strong line of communication with the seller in regards to his order" after reading my message conversations with MaljiArts. Therefore, George asked MaljiArts to set up a proper selling listing (MaljiArts did not do so when requested the US$500 deposit) for him to pay the balance of US$400 and to ship the item after one week. In fact, the entire carving of the item should have been completed in about a week).

(5) MaljiArts suddenly "closed" George's order and told everyone, include the Etsy support staff, that he won't sell the item and would "refund" George's US$500 deposit the same day. (6) George has to follow MaljiArts' instruction to request the US$500 refund, but MaljiArts canceled George's request by giving George a different PayPal email account. George immediately used the new PayPal account that given by MaljiArts to send the refund request again, MaljiArts still does not pay the money.

Furthermore, (7) In the meantime, MaljiArts made a listing to sell the near completed order of George's design. We only realised at this point in time that MaljiArts is not only a scammer but also a thief, he stole George's design and even used my explanation as its Etsy listing description.(8) Since I continually reported to the Etsy that MaljiArts still doesn't pay his initiated "refund" of the US$500, MaljiArts sent everyone, include the Etsy support staff, his chat screenshot with PayPal, to tell me that Maljiarts DOES NOT have money in his PayPal account to pay his US$500 refund to George. Therefore, the refund is not paid because MaljiArts asked PayPal to use PayPal's money to pay the US$500 refund and book it as a "negative amount" to MaljiArts' PayPal account. MaljiArts has said to everyone that: now it is PayPal's responsibility to pay the US$500 to George, that it has nothing to do with MaljiArts' anymore.

What a completely professional scam! It is far beyond our imagination that this can happen on Etsy's selling platform with Etsy's support. Since I am not allowed to write this directly on MaljiArts' store within Etsy system, I have to write this horrible experience in this review platform regarding Etsy. Now, we paid this Etsy seller US$500 and worked extremely hard for two months to teach MalljiArts for him to steal George's original design work. Etsy wanted to use $50 gift card as the solution for this problem.

I shop on Etsy, almost always a good experience, my gripe doesn't concern sellers, it concerns Etsy's lousy response to issues. Examples:

1.Etsy specifically bans items which mock or demean a religion. A seller on Etsy sells "art prints" showing a stripper dancing in front of Jesus and the Apostles at the Last Supper. As a Catholic, I found this offensive, flagged it, explained why, and it's still there. Sent Etsy a message weeks later, no reply. For some reason, Christianity is fair game when it comes to ridicule. If someone sold prints showing the same stripper dancing in front of the Prophet Muhammed, you can bet that Etsy would express outrage and do something about it.

2. Another gripe concerns age-inappropriate items coming up in general searches, items with the F word plastered all over them for example. Etsy has an "adult" category, which is fine, but it doesn't enforce it.

3. Another example of bad service: a seller sold items with the descriptions and photos stolen from another website owned by a friend. Totally stole them. He turned out to be a fraud, but Etsy acted only after multiple calls and messages from me, and a call from my friend whose photos and descriptions he stole.

4. Etsy used to have a comments area where buyers and sellers could post comments, concerns, suggestions, etc. Etsy booted the paying customers out, now only sellers can use this feature. You can't call Etsy easily, was difficult even before the pandemic, and email responses are iffy.

Etsy has rules - and it won't enforce them or is slow to enforce them, and communication is bad. Why bother yapping about community at all if the bottom line is profit?

Multiple sellers (mostly from Europe, France especially) selling Nikon, Canon and other high end DSLR cameras for very low prices. These sellers are part of a shipping scam. You pay with paypal or credit card - they confirm shipment - shipment does not arrive or they post item has arrived (but it did not). In the last 3 days we have uncovered at least 6 cameras being posted (different "seller" names) which are part of this scheme. We are currently investigating each of these sellers but they are proliferating as I write.

I bought a face mask plus pouch from ABizyQueenBee (alias ThumbsUpAustralia) via Etsy web page on 26th July. Item did not turn up by 18th August. Wrote numerous requests to the seller via Etsy with no helpful reply at all. I raised a case via Etsy on the 18th detailing non-arrival and non-help from the seller. Suddenly seller says it was returned to them and resent it with a tracking number this time (none before). Item finally arrived on 24th August, face mask was there, but no accompanying pouch. I then received an email from Etsy closing the case.

The seller won’t reply and Etsy doesn’t allow you to reopen the case or add a new one on ‘delivered’ orders. There is no other way to contact Etsy and I am without my whole order. Etsy does not allow you to contact them at all unless you have a current unresolved order. I couldn’t even escalate the case because of only partial delivery. DON’T use Etsy to buy from what is effectively a blind sub seller and an uncontactable Etsy. IAS

I recently wrote a scathing review, complaining about Etsy's customer service. However, after writing the review, Etsy and the foreign seller promptly responded to my concerns via text. The rug at issue arrived from Turkey without a hitch. In the interest of fairness, I thought it appropriate to write this positive follow-up review.

Original Review: Aug. 21, 2020

I purchased a rug on Etsy (order #**). Etsy debited my AMEX card $1094.96. However, the seller emailed me to inform me that the rug was not available in the size I ordered. I asked the seller for a refund. The seller has not responded. It's impossible to talk to anyone at Etsy. I tried to "open a case" on the Etsy wesite, but received a message stating that I would have to wait another week to open a case. Stay away. They will take YOUR MONEY and NOT RESPOND to issues. What a headache.

Had a couple bad experiences shipping outside the US where buyers said purchases weren’t received and couldn't be tracked after leaving the US; I promptly refunded without question. However, stopped selling outside US unless buyer was willing to pay costs for Priority Mailing with tracking and insurance. As a buyer you do need to beware, Etsy Sellers aren't Amazon. Especially now during covid. As far as Etsy not responding they’re based In New York City or surrounding areas where covid has been the worst. In past years they’ve returned Inquiries Within their 24 hr time frame. Low staffing isn’t uncommon during the pandemic in many businesses & wait times Longer.

If your seller provided a tracking number and purchase not received make your seller aware. Read Shipping Policies before purchasing ask the seller as many questions as needed. Some sellers pacifically state purchases received damaged or non deliveries aren’t refundable. My advise...protect yourself by requesting your seller ship Priority Mail before you pay for anything. Priority Mail is automatically insured for $50. Additional insurance can be purchased to cover full purchase price, I believe up to $500. The few extra $$ protects you and the seller & worth it to cover losses or damage incurred through shipping. As already said Etsy sellers are not Amazon. Does Etsy need to step up their game... Probably so. For the most part these are small business owners who can’t afford to incur losses & damages by Postal System Workers or Carriers.

Etsy is a great platform for discovering new and exciting or innovative designs however, my experience with the copyright infringement team is beginning to wear a little thin. I have reported, numerous (6) times, long lists of goods from the same seller that infringe my design copyright and still, the seller's shop has not been removed. I have tried to talk to the seller but they simply sneer and ignore my requests to remove the items, they are even using a similar shop name, it is sinister in its replication of mine and my husband's identity. Come on Etsy, do what you say you do and protect your sellers from copyright theft.

Ordered two face mask through Etsy.com on July 29th 2020. They billed my charge on July 30th 2020, and emailed a split order from two different vendors. One arrived in a reasonable time the to this date August 19th has not been delivered. The seller Respect the Wardrobe does not respond to messages left on their website and does not have a phone number to contact anyone. Same goes for Etsy's website which only gives you a run around. Also no phone number. Both are a total RIP off.

If you have a problem with one of their vendors, there is NO way to get in touch with them. No phone number on their site, no email address to write a problem. All their e-mails to you are NO reply emails so you cannot get in touch with them.

I ordered 5 masks totalling $100. I received 2. One I never received and when I asked for help I was sent the tracking number again. 2 I received. The other 2 have never been shipped and there's no information in my account about them. Etsy and their suppliers took the money and refuse to answer any emails I send them. I will never use Etsy again and warn everyone else that they keep your money and don't deliver.

I am a customer that paid for an item I never received and have no possession of. I purchased the item as gift for a friend. Since I have not received the merchandise, I have kindly asked Etsy to either send me the item I paid for or please issue me a refund. Either way, they have refused a resolution and have stolen $22. Although it is a small amount of money, as a paying customer I expect what I have paid for; as should all customers. Etsy and Courtney Stone from Stylizeddesign in Lebanon, Pennsylvania are thieves who have stolen my hard earned money. I wou
