Etsy used to be a platform that truly supported small businesses, but sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Over the years, their focus has shifted from helping sellers thrive to prioritizing profit and maintaining a buyer-friendly reputation—often at the expense of the hardworking sellers who make the platform what it is.
As a seller, I’ve experienced firsthand how Etsy disregards its own sellers’ policies. Even when I provided extensive evidence to support my case, they ignored it entirely and sided with a buyer who clearly violated my shop’s terms. This left me feeling disrespected, unsupported, and questioning whether Etsy cares about the small businesses that pay their fees and keep their marketplace running.
Etsy’s refusal to enforce sellers' policies or even take the time to thoroughly review evidence sets a troubling precedent. It sends a message that buyers can abuse the system, insult sellers, and tarnish their reputations without consequences. It’s disheartening to see a platform that once championed small businesses turn into a profit-driven corporation, disconnected from the needs of its sellers.
If you’re a seller considering Etsy, I urge you to think twice. Build your own website or look for other platforms that respect and support small businesses. Etsy is no longer the safe, seller-friendly marketplace it claims to be. All I asked was that the customer pay for return shipping as stated on my return policies and I will refund her the money. The customer refuse and file a claim, the customer insult me, call me names and then Etsy gave them the money from my account and let her keep the items even though I sent the 10 pictures of my product, product descriptions, conversations with the customer showing her insulting me and how professional I was throughout the whole thing. It was only $35 but what if it was a bigger amount? Please please, don't sell on Etsy, start your own website.

I bought two shams from the seller Spoon Flower. The picture shown on their site was of two pillow shams. I have two beds and wanted the same for each bed. Turns out the shams were sold separately. Again, the picture shown was a black background with flowers. When I received the shams that I paid over $100.00 for, the background color is NOT black it's a sick grey. I contacted the seller; she would not allow me to return the items even though they had not been used. Do not buy from Etsy, the customer service is terrible. I will NEVER again buy from Etsy! The seller Spoon Flower is a crook, she stole $100.00 from me, and she runs a fraudulent business.

Worst customer experience with Etsy. The rep was unsupportive, took over 30 min just to send me a lame macro from the help center and didn't acknowledge or understand my complaint. They didn't take time to troubleshoot or investigate. She also showed 0 empathy and understanding towards my frustration - although the rep was the reason for my frustration. My concerns are still unanswered and Etsy and no other way to be contacted or to escalate a complaint. They're taking all the money from my sales and not giving me any explanation on the charges they deduct.

I recently sold an item on Etsy that in total cost $255.41 The item arrived to the buyer late because USPS lost the item 2 times and a month later finally arrived at the buyer's home. The buyer then reported that the item arrived damaged. No communication was sent to me at all of this report. I only found out about this when $255.41 was deducted from my checking account. I contacted Etsy (of course only by chat because they have no telephone number to call), I was then told I had to appeal the claim.
Well long story short they denied my claim and said that Etsy would not cover the item because it cost too much. (more than their protection covers). So in turn I requested my items be returned since the buyer was fully refunded. This request was denied as well. So basically the buyer received the item for free and can still sell it for probably more than he bought it for since this is able to be sold in pieces. So in the end I lost a sale, $277.55, and my item. Needless to say I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH ETSY AGAIN FOR ANY REASON.

Etsy suspended my seller account after about 6 weeks and I only had one listing, just one, with no explanation at all! I filed an appeal and didn't hear from them for a month! Finally they responded and I provided all the information they asked for and after a few emails back and forth, me asking why and them never telling me why, they eventually responded by permanently closing my account. But they NEVER told me why they suspended and then closed my account!
I asked them in all of our exchanges, "What is the problem?" But they would not tell me. Instead they would respond either with, "we are checking into it" or with stupid questions, like "Where do you log in from." I didn't owe them any money, the only listing I had was a purse, so that should not have been a problem. Honestly, I don't think the people responding to my emails even knew why my account got suspended so they were just making excuses. I'm telling the truth. The WORST customer service ever! I would not recommend using this site for selling to anyone! I wouldn't even trust buying on this site anymore. Horrible Customer Service!

I have gotten some good clothing and products on Etsy but lately they want to charge for free shipping with some ridiculous ‘insider’ program. No thanks! Sellers no longer offer free shipping and descriptions of clothing materials is very vague. Also some shops show shirt prices at 60% off at a price of $8 to $10 but that is only for the smallest size! Other sizes are $20 or more. Bait and switch! I’m not falling for this. Claim regular price of a t-shirt is $40! Disappointing and dishonest. I feel some shops are taking advantage and increasing prices drastically. Back to Amazon.

There is no customer protection policy from this site. The international sellers seems to sell unqualified product or not as advertised and said no return or exchange. If you got the wrong product because the seller fault advertised, Etsy will do nothing to help or guarantee like Amazon or eBay. I will try to go away from this site as it allowed bad / spam seller to take advantage of customers. Two products I bought were not advertised. Earring cannot be used, asked selling to send the right earring post but she doesn’t want to and Etsy doesn’t do anything to help. The ring from Canada advertised with beautiful color chart pictures but send me the ring with different color and not accept it was their fault advertising with the evidence of pictures, and talked very bad, rude to customer and will not want to accept their fault and not exchange the $100 product and Etsy can do nothing about it.

I sent an email and while I answered all their questions, I still can't reset my password because they do not listen. They are sending me emails with a link to reset, which don't arrive in my inbox as my account is locked. I am talking to robots and people that do not listen. If this is not solved in the next couple of days, I will close my account and will find the competitor to join and buy cool stuff. I am an ETSY seller. Unless it is a holiday a weekend, I should be paid within 24 hours. Having worked in IT for decades, and a lot of that with huge corporations, I know that banking transactions take nano-seconds to process. ETSY uses Plaid to manage seller payments. Plaid takes its dear time processing payments. It's outrageous, unfair, and unacceptable to hold back payments to sellers for the cash flow it affords Plaid. After years of mercenary ETSY policies, I have decided to end my business relationship with them. I'm a not a big business and I DO need my money. I'm disgusted and enraged. I cannot recommend sellers to sell with ETSY. Enough is enough ETSY.

To be extremely clear, my issue is not with Etsy sellers. I got my purchases quickly and correctly. My issue is with Etsy’s support department. I had an Etsy account in 2009 and did not use it again till 2024. I got into crochet so I found some patterns from some very talented individuals so I bought several and they successfully and quickly went to my email and I was billed. I went in later to use the patterns and they will not allow me to see them. I went to reopen my account. It said it was an invalid password so I tried to create a new one and it wouldn’t let me. It said I violated terms and was notified in 2009 (almost 16 years before) and I should know why. I was very careful to honor their terms and conditions when I used their site.
I tried resetting my password to contact support. It would not allow me to, saying my account was permanently suspended. So, I tried to file a claim, it said the account in question did not qualify for a claim. That’s when I contacted Etsy support from my second email and explained my problem and they would not help. They kept saying that they really needed me to contact them from that email in question so I explained to them I was well aware of that, and that’s what I was trying to accomplish. Now it says I can’t purchase from any account I create and I am still at a loss as to why. They were not polite or helpful.
They took my money and will not reimburse or ask about the payment method used or try in any form to help me work with them to satisfy the problem. If you are a seller, I would question how much more business can you get if they were easier to work with. I have seen some amazing craftsmanship from the sellers. It isn’t fair to the sellers to have buyers blocked for unknown reasons. I mean, a successful transaction is a successful transaction right?

Wish I could give minus or zero star. After I have provided Etsy the test deposit detail and I have also paid the platform for account setup using my bank information, I find it to be an unreasonable and excessive request for me to upload my bank statement. Requiring such personal financial information feels intrusive and seems to exploit the power imbalance between the platform and its sellers. Their request goes beyond what is necessary for processing payments and raises questions about privacy and fairness.

However, then I did not receive the 2nd item, so I requested a FULL refund which included the credit from the 1st purchase. I was told I would receive this via chat. Instead, they simply gave me another partial credit. I was done making purchases as it was already past Christmas. They refused to give me the 'credit' back as a refund to my credit card. I now have to jump through hoops to file a dispute with my credit card. I have made multiple purchases on ETSY. This is the 1st time I've had such problems. I may have to close my account to obtain my refund. If so, not a problem.
Sellers who claim to be in the USA still obtain their items from overseas but don't tell you that upfront. I waited over 3 weeks on some orders and longer than 6 weeks on another. NOT worth the hassle. I located 3 phone numbers online for ETSY and 2 email addresses. NONE of them are in operation. I am now somehow 'blocked' from using 'chat' after requesting a supervisor. Made a purchase on Etsy. My credit card was charged. After that the vendor was impossible to deal with. They showed my digital product as "shipped", but I never received anything. The vendor never responded to anymore of my messages after that. Etsy makes it nearly impossible for you to file a claim, because they're "what is the problem" selections at the beginning of the process are so limited and don't allow you to explain your particular issue, so they were USELESS! I still don't have my product, have not received a refund (even though I filed for one) and NO HELP from Etsy. But it gets better . . .
When I first viewed reviews on this vendor, I read about 8 or 10 reviews. They were all 5-star stellar reviews, which is why I went with them. After all of this happened, I felt something was fishy, as a vendor with such stellar reviews certainly would treat me like this, right? So I started going deep into the reviews. What did I find? They had a TON of 1-star reviews regarding "rip-off", "scam", etc. But there was a review pattern. After each batch of about 10-15 1-star reviews, there would immediately follow about 10-15 5-star stellar reviews. And those 5-star reviews were all pretty much on the same date, so unless you read beyond those (and really, how many of us read dozens of reviews?), you wouldn't see the batch of 1-star reviews the days preceding the 5-star reviews. And the pattern repeated over and over for the months prior.
So, obviously, the vendor is making purchases under phantom names and email addresses and writing stellar reviews to cover the ACTUAL customer reviews from people that got ripped off (like myself), so that unless you read DEEP into the reviews, you'll never see all the 1-star reviews. What's worse is that Etsy has this vendor listed as a top 5-star vendor with thousands of reviews, when in reality, the vendor probably have equal amounts of 5-star and 1-star reviews. Why would Etsy do this?? Because they are making BANK off of there commissions with this scam vendor, so they turn a blind eye. Which is another reason that Etsy makes it so difficult for you to file claims or report a vendor . . . They don't WANT to know, or deal with it, because that would only decrease the commissions they are getting from all of these scam vendors.
Moral of the story . . there are many reputable vendors on Etsy. However, from all of my research since my incident, there are a TON of scam vendors that Etsy allows to operate with impunity. So, read deep into vendor product reviews. And as always, BUYER BEWARE!

I been selling on Etsy since 2021. As a seller we don't get good treatment. In order for me to speak to a live person I have to pretend that I am a buyer. For the fact the seller is the reason Etsy is even making profits we should be treated better. They take for ever to respond to emails and there is no professionalism. They will deactivate your products and can't provide a legitimate reason why. I notice when a product reaches a certain threshold here come etsy with the false claims. I was eager to open an Etsy store of my own having had a good experience buying from others on Etsy. The experience turned out a polar opposite. I spent a great deal of time submitting my business information and preparing my listings. But due to it being my first time using the platform I had questions regarding their tax ID requirements for my type of business entity. I wasn’t looking for tax advice at all, rather an understanding of what Etsy requires and how they will use my information for tax reporting… all questions that are key to opening a store and should have readily available answers. Any initial replies to any questions are always a bot, a rambling form letter with excerpts and links to their help page which is anything but helpful.
About a week of waiting later, if you’re persistent, you will get a reply from a person who has made zero effort to understand or even read the initial question. It’s almost comical how inadequate the answers are. The first paragraph is profuse thanks for being a customer after which they prove that they couldn’t care less about their user base. After over a month of back and forth trying to explain my question and getting no answer I gave up and deleted my listings altogether.
To be clear, they never allowed my store or my listings to go live but they charged me for the listings anyway… listings that no one ever saw. 10 months after my store remained in limbo, closed and listing-less I got an email that it was live and saw I had a visitor. Out of morbid curiosity I emailed Etsy asking to be credited the ghost listing fees so that I could try again to post new ones. The entire experience above repeated… bot, ignorant support rep response, zero resolution. The cost of the listings is negligible but why would I trust such a company with the reputation of my art and products? The moment a customer would have a question or issue with their order I’d be back to square one looking for nonexistent support. If this is the experience for a new seller in regard to tax requirements and fees, it can only get worse once you start selling… if they ever allow you go to live, that is!

Etsy is a greedy corporation, they no longer are for the little guy, or the artist, they exploit and take away from craftsman. They allow manufactured goods from China to be sold, like sexy toys, and clothing, shoes, and other stuff that is neither vintage or handmade. They force sellers to change their pictures, on listings by saying they're not clear or bright, and they lower the search visibility to your store. They charge outrageous fees, to Americans, but none to Ukraine sellers, they allow sellers to sell propaganda, and political stuff. They allow trolls, harassing online buyers that are fake, to torment sellers, they don't allow us to block them completely.
There is fakes, copycats and trolls that are copying other artists left and right and when us real artist report it, we have to jump through hoops and still our stuff isn't protected. The fees, are outrageous, they charge for everything, if you sell a item for $20.00, after the fees, you make around 12.00 or $13.00. They force you to advertise on social media, even if you don't have social media, there is 20 trolls to 1 real buyer, they ask questions that doesn't pertain to the items you're selling, they ask you to make filth, or debauched items. For every 20 evil sick tickets on Etsy trolling hardworking artists you will have 2 decent buyers.
For 7 years I have put up with abuse, harassment, and mean, nasty buyers, even ones that told me I should die, called me slanderous names, and you report it Etsy doesn't do a thing, and we block them, but they're not really blocked. They still can buy and troll, I had one troll buy 10 times in a row, every time I canceled the sale, and still kept trolling, the tv commercials are phony, in what way is it ok for Etsy to advertise that sellers will take 60% percent off items. It's not. They you advertise all items are custom and come out different, still these nasty trolls expect everything to be identical, they don't know the meaning of handcrafted, I have had repeat buyers, that know how I roll, and still they keep buying just to complain, eventually having to refuse sales to them.
For every 10 good buyers, I end up with 6 rotten ones. After 7 years of selling on Etsy, I have quit, the buyers got their refunds, however let Etsy eat it for a change, they have ripped me off enough, over charging fees, refunding jerks when they got their items as described, oh yes Etsy refunds buyers, even if they got the items, and even if the buyer is lying, they don't give a seller a chance, at all. They allow nasty sex toys to be sold, even life size sex dolls, and manufactured items, clothing and shoes, this is not what Etsy stated to be, they were supposed to state vintage and handcrafted and items to make crafts, there is seller after seller selling goods claiming to be antique and vintage and it's not. There is sellers copying us real artists, you report it, Etsy does nothing. My items are too good for these harassing unappreciative, rude and demanding Etsy buyers.

I reached out to Etsy regarding the sudden deletion of my account, which has been active for over five years. From my understanding, this might have been due to a security breach or hack on their end. However, Etsy provided no clear explanation for their actions. All they said was that my account would be permanently deleted, and there was nothing I could do about it. I followed their process and submitted an appeal, as instructed. The response I received was dismissive: they stated that their decision was final and that they wouldn’t discuss the matter further or provide any reason for the deletion.
This is how my journey with Etsy ends—without explanation or accountability. I strongly suspect the issue lies with their system, possibly a security breach they don’t want to acknowledge. It’s disheartening to know that all my hard work can be erased on a whim, with no obligation on their part to provide any transparency. If anyone wants to learn more, I’m happy to share screenshots of our conversations and video footage of the entire appeal process. Feel free to reach out.

Etsy has once again implemented a policy that illustrates their unmitigated greed and harassment of sellers - the very people they make millions off. Their fees can amount to 25% of the listing price of an item if a person clicks thru to Etsy from a different search engine than theirs. Sellers can refuse the sale to avoid losing 1/4 of their money but what Etsy is now doing is asking buyers to take an Etsy credit rather than a refund (they don't want to lose a penny in sales) and they give 48 hours for the buyer to decide. I'm not sure this a legal but it certainly is unethical. What it does do, is withhold the fees Etsy charged the seller being placed back onto the seller's account. So their exorbitant fees are still charged to sellers for more than 48 hours. Etsy has always been poor. Now it's a pitiful example of commerce and greed beyond belief. They really have a minus 10 stars!

Etsy’s treatment of sellers is beyond disappointing. For years I had a successful shop, where I sold vintage postage stamps and philatelic items, and worked hard to comply with Etsy’s policies. Out of nowhere, Etsy closed my shop, claiming I violated their policies. When I tried to appeal, they rejected my case, incorrectly claiming that I had violated their policies against hate, selling highly regulated items, and extortion! Extortion?
All the claims were false. I reached out multiple times, trying to AGAIN and repeatedly show how their decision was made in error, and that I had NOT violated their policies. This arbitrary decision has cost me financially and tarnished my reputation. I’ve lost all income from the shop, and I’m unable to connect with past customers or even salvage any part of my long-standing and successful business on Etsy. Despite over 14k sales, a 5-star rating, and top seller badge earned monthly, Etsy closed my shop. CLICK! My business is closed!
Sellers, beware: Etsy’s process is opaque, and they don’t seem to care about supporting their sellers. If you’re thinking of starting a business on Etsy, know that they can shut you down without warning and with little chance to defend yourself. I’ve learned the hard way that Etsy does not value its sellers. Look elsewhere if you want to run a business on a trustworthy platform that respects its sellers!

They never responded to our messages so we were completely in the dark for about a month. Finally, we received a message that they, Etsy, were going to return our money and that the seller would not have to do so. This means Etsy did nothing about an unethical seller and that we were reimbursed with money collected from other sellers. After our purchase we found this seller was offering his product on Amazon and the product is produced in a factory. This violates the concept of small sellers on Etsy. This experience was extremely frustrating and time consuming. We now know that Etsy does not hold their sellers accountable and seems to allow anyone to sell on their site. My experience with Etsy, itself, has been good, overall. My complaint is with many of their foreign clothing sellers which you don’t know until you have to return items. I have concluded that these sellers show pretty pictures of clothes from bona fide store catalogs, then, when they get an order, some seamstress - probably in China - whips up a knockoff version of the article I ordered. They come with ugly colors, garish copycat designs, oversized shapeless style, shower-curtain-like fabric, poor workmanship. Classic bait and switch. I had a blouse just delivered that was 3X or more for my order of a Lg. Ghastly color and style. Nothing remotely like the picture.
That seller promptly accepted my return, but I had one seller tell me they would pay return shipping IF I CHANGED MY 1 STAR REVIEW TO 4 STARS!! I felt a little sorry for them so I changed it to 3. But after their lengthy ensuing argumentative messaging, I got mad at them and they finally agreed to pay shipping as their site promised. I highly doubt their glowing reviews. I packed and mailed the items to an address in Winnipeg Manitoba on August 28. On September 13, the buyer opened a case claiming that I sent her a box of loose, used toys and sent Etsy a picture of a pile of ponies in a box and said that is what was sent. I refuted this claim and pointed out that the box I sent would have been heavier than what she pictured because there were boxes and more items in it. I also pointed out that I have been selling on Etsy since 2011 and have nearly 1,000 sales and this is the only case that has ever been opened.
Etsy gave canned answers, and evaded me at every turn when asked to investigate further. I began to see the writing on the wall and locked the credit card on file. A day later, they took nearly $50 from my payment account and then attempted to charge $150 more so they could pay the scammer. Now they have suspended my account, costing me hundreds more and refuse to reinstate until I pay $140. I will not be paying a thief. I am already out $50 and my merchandise. Two aspects to this business:
1. Being a seller is a waste of time because Etsy doesn’t have categories. It’s not all clothing. There are many other things to sell, yet everything is in one clump, making it impossible to narrow down a search.. How difficult could it be to have categories?
2. Blatant dishonesty from sellers. I made the mistake of buying two articles of clothing. One was marked correctly on the tag, but was way too small & the seller told me she knew it was too small. But didn’t reveal that to me until after I paid for it. So, Wasted money. I also bought a Coldwater Creek jacket that was supposedly in my size, but it was about three sizes too small. The seller had cut the size label out of it or the company had. It was not even close to the correct size. Wasted money.
3. I bought a nice leather bag for a great price, but the seller was unethical because she did not reveal that a bottle of perfume was spilled in the purse. So it was unusable for at least a year. So that’s three out of four sellers were unethical.
4. Lastly, I bought a piece of jewelry that was exactly as described in the picture, and the price was good. Although the stone fell out of it right after I bought it. I don’t blame the seller for that. So no more Etsy for me ever. Due to the three dishonest sellers.

I am guessing the seller no longer sells there for some reason and I just got caught in the middle with my purchase.

Bought a set of table legs, believing I bought a table and learned my mistake. Wanting to return the item, I discovered shipping charges that far exceeded (4-5 times) the purchase amount. Etsy promised to contribute $50 (wouldn't make a dent in shipping cost) on a future order, and I instead to simply have it refunded now to my original payment method. That's when the run-around started and insisting on pictures of the product that I clearly stated I received as the label promised. I decided all the hassle with Etsy and the overly defensive seller wasn't worth it. I won't be making any purchases on Etsy ever again or with that vendor.

I ordered a few items 2 days ago, however I didn't realize that I had an item that I didn't want in my cart and I hit the purchase button. 2 minutes after I realized my mistake I contacted the seller to cancel the order and I also contacted Etsy customer service 3 minutes after contacting the seller. Well let me tell you how awful etsy customer service is, they cancelled the wrong order after 10 emails of me specifically spelling out what happened and the exact order number which needed to see cancelled.. They gave me every story under the sun and they ended up telling me to get "a friend to help me figure it out". I was floored by that comment.
I tried everything I could to try to cancel the order on my own but my dashboard didn't give me access to the shop manager link. I YouTubed it and couldn't get the info I needed. I am on my own with no children to help me and to be told, "It's your problem not ours" is just shockingly bad service. I've spent close to $1000.00 on items from their vendors who sold me nice stuff. I hope every vendor and seller sees this and never has anything to do with these very deceptive losers...

I have had an issue with the Etsy site for two days - cannot reach my cart. When I click on it, I get an error page. I have spoken to their Tech Support 4 times and reported the issue - each time they indicate they're "working on it", but give no ETA or indication they really know what the problem is. Then they send follow up notes for me to perform actions on my end (i.e., clear the cache, use different browser, and so on); even after doing all this, the error persists.
A Google search yielded the same complaint from other customers - over the last several months - and years. This is clearly an Etsy system error which they are not competent enough to fix or they just don't care. It is quite unfortunate - for customers and vendors alike. Etsy is one of the few places I can purchase rare finds - in particular 1:12 scale dollhouse furnishings - many of the Vendors are overseas and Etsy is their preferred platform. In any case, if this isn't resolved to some extent soon, I'll move on. However, I'll be writing to the top executives at Etsy to let them know of their failure to serve their customers.

After 5 years of selling on the platform and making nearly 100,000 sales, we had an average review of 4.9 stars. Suddenly our handmade incense and organic dried spice company was shut down by Etsy for our handmade incense not being “handmade”? After 4 months and 4 appeals, the circus they put us through could not be more outrageous. Starting with approving the appeal to get the ban lifted, however not actually unbanning us. Then telling us to change certain listings, and pay them a strange $80 bill, we were unban - only they unban some other company that I don’t own and wasn’t associated with with my shop. All the while weeks are ticking by between their every reply here.
After a total of 4 appeals and 5 separate staff telling us over email our appeals had been accepted and why, they changed their mind without explanation. On the 4th month of waiting, they finally sent us back a response to us asking how they suddenly thought we were a different company given the shop they had switched back on had no listed items or sales, and we had 5 years history, made changes to listings for them, and had paid their mysterious fee, indicating our account we had been discussing over the 20 or so odd emails, clearly wasn’t this company they said they turned back on for us. Finally they reply to this, with “Thanks so much! We have decided to close the case and you aren’t eligible, because of the information that we have, and the platform policies.” Which I can’t even make sense of.
I had fixed everything they asked so they couldn’t even find a policy or problem. I had to rapidly switch to eBay where we have been doing so much better. If you're considering selling on Etsy, DON'T. Remember they can and will rip your dream to shreds, even if you're following all the rules, and it seems to serve no other purpose than to shoot themselves in the foot. At any moment you will eventually wake up to a message saying your entire shop is shut down, do not reply to this email.
Use eBay, Shopify, Amazon, or for a less painful experience than Etsy, simply sell your items out of a storm drain while getting a Appendectomy. But really, it is not worth it to build a reputation there, not worth it to sell there in 2022 never mind in 2024 where we are now, and has gotten progressively worse for sellers and buyers alike with a uncanny consistency. Even IF you only sell handmade goods. Even IF you only intend to sell In the small niche Etsy is good for. The worst possible option you could do for your future as a business would be to invest any time, money, or effort into putting your shop on Etsy.
Legally a company this incompetent should not be allowed to run for consumer protection, but they can, so all I can do is warn you. You're safer as a buyer on here, though it our still likely to get scammed, the most you will lose is whatever you pay for something. If you're a shop owner they will scam you seven times a day, via marketing, fees ten times higher and six times less effective than any other platform, and without fail, every single shop eventually is randomly ban. A simple google search can reveal what I’ve said to be accurate for hundreds of thousands of shop owners, who experienced the same thing.

I have been on Etsy for years. Used to be fun to look around and buy fun stuff. Now it’s just annoying. Emails galore for absolutely no reason. Constant prompts to use the Etsy app which is worthless to use because the favorites don’t save and emails in the app disappear. Oh and I have noticed that things show up in my favorites that I never click on to save. Etsy is just deceptive all the way around now!
I have a lot of sympathy for sellers who are just trying to sell things that people want to buy. Seller fees are insane, the majority of stuff on there now is mass produced by production lines. The actual shops that make their products by hand are suffering because Etsy now puts so any fees on them that it’s no longer worth it to have a shop. WARNING: I WAS DEFRAUDED BY ETSY! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! On July 2, 2023, I bought a shirt on Etsy from JerseyGlam (#**) for $42.92 and received email notification from Etsy of the purchase, but as of today, August 6, I haven’t received either the product or any shipping notification. I contacted Etsy by replying to their emails and these are the responses I got from them:
July 14: "...these are made to order so it is not ready to ship just yet but our next batch of these will be ready soon. To respond to JerseyGlam just reply to this email." July 17 "...these are made to order so it is not ready to ship just yet but our next batch of these will be ready soon."Your order should be delivered between Jul 23-29. Original delivery: Jul 11-19." July 30 "Let us know if you got your order We're checking in to see if you've received the item you recently purchased from JerseyGlam. Estimated delivery: July 29, 2024." It included two options, "Yup I got it" and "Not yet." When I clicked the "Not yet" it took me to the Etsy general website page but not to Customer Service or to any section that offered help.
It is now 8/6/23 and I never received my order. Finally, today, I looked at Etsy’s original email confirming my July 2 purchase, but this time instead of responding to their email like I have been doing, I clicked on the link to JerseyGlam. It brought me to the vendor's site on Etsy, but it had the following notification posted: "JerseyGlam is currently not selling on Etsy." So I went to the next to the last email I received from them and after clicking on the link to JerseyGlam, it took me to a white page on Etsy that said, "Uh oh! Sorry, the member you are looking for does not exist."
THIS IS ABSOLUTE FRAUD! Never before have I experienced this with any online company. I wish I had read the bad reviews Etsy has been getting on TrustPilot, Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau because I never would have purchased anything from them. They have also been ripping off many of the sellers as well as buyers. In one of the comments I noticed someone is trying to start a class action lawsuit against them. I thought ETSY was a serious and credible page and I have realized that is not the case. I bought something and once again it never arrived. How is it possible that I bought a dress a month in advance for my granddaughter's wedding that was celebrated on the beach, and I never received it!!!
But to collect the money, they really know how to do it and quickly. The thing was that, the wedding day arrived and the dress never arrived, I had to wear something else. That is not possible and it is unacceptable and I made the comment at the wedding and a guest told me that the same thing had happened to her too. ETSY IS A SCAM in my personal opinion. As a seller on Etsy. I had nothing but problems.
1. Within my first month of opening my 3D print shop on Etsy, they had suspended my account. I submitted my appeal and they reversed the suspension stating that it was in error.
2. Over the course the next year, my shop grew and listings would get sporadically deactivated by ETSY for violating their terms of service, yet other shops were selling the same exact items. I relisted them and had no issues selling those items.
3. A customer had requested a 3d print from the designer OXO3D, known for their lewd prints. I researched and ensured that it was allowed on Etsy. There are several dozen stores that have their listings on their page. I posted mine and I got banned within 2 hours.
My appeal got shutdown stating due to my previous account history. My account history, mentioned above, was the suspension in error and the take downs that were not legitimate and didn't violated Etsy's TOS. My shop had 800 reviews with a 5 star average rating and over 2100 sales. I had been STAR seller all except during the probationary period.
My other issues with Etsy is that they fee you to death. In order to get visibility on their SEOs to start off, you need to pay for marketing. You are LUCKY to break even and do free work for your customers because between Etsy's listing fees, cut they take from your shop, transaction fees, shipping fees (on top of the cost of the label), and the list goes on. You are charged almost $5-6 dollars on a $10.00 item and after paying for marketing, you have a net gain of 0. My recommendation is open your shop elsewhere. It takes more time to build your own empire, but at least you'll have control over it.

If I could give it minus I would. Etsy does not care about sellers actually being able to sell their products. I am a buyer, but as I understand it, this platform is supposed to help people sell their products. I have a tight deadline of when I require items to arrive since I have an event, and I am in the midst of writing to several sellers in order to purchase their products, and all of a sudden in the middle of all this, my messaging on Etsy stopped working. I tried for an entire day to contact etsy -I did the "call me back" feature more than 5 times, and received no callback. I sent emails on all the avenues allowed on etsy (which is only two ways to do it) and still nothing.
I did another call back request today and finally got one but the lady said she can't reactivate my messaging and she has to send to another department and says she doesn't know when they will get back to me since they reply depending on their availability which it sounds like is inconsistent from what she explained. I told her I needed to make purchases by today to get the items in time for my event and this is risking sellers not being able to sell their product, but she didn't seem phased at all by that. I am surprised that this company, whose whole platform is about helping people sell their products, simply does not care about helping their sellers sell their products. I guess they must be doing so well that they don't really care and think they won't lose business or sellers or buyers.
Well, I guess there is a positive - I am saving money! I have tried to contact the sellers on other avenues, like FB, but not everyone is on FB or other platforms, so there will be a lot of buyers who will, unfortunately, not be able to make a sale because of etsy's incompetence. The platform is supposed to help them sell their products, but actually is so incompetent that it is causing them to lose sales. Such a shame.

You are supposed to have 2 days to respond to try and resolve a case, but you can't when you do not know about it. Etsy forces you to pay fees on advertising when you hit a certain profit margin, they don't think that maybe YOU do NOT want advertising and are completely content with the way your sales are. I am at this point totally disgusted with the entire process. Ordered a sofa set, received a snack box. No help from the site. Be careful with the site. They don't provide any tracking or anything and simply close the case without any resolution. Seems like a legitimate fraud.

Horrible. Not only is the site not efficient in terms of navigating, but my first purchase I was offered 15% off if I added the code to my order... I did this for half an hour. It kept saying that I must sign in to get the code. I signed in time after time, with the same result. And good luck calling them. All they do is tell you to contact the seller - no phone number for Etsy and NEAR impossible to get someone online. After ONE HOUR, I got someone online who looked up the transaction and said she'd take care of it, then came back and offered me FIVE dollars off my NEXT order. After I receive my bracelet, goodbye to ETSY. (and my 57 dollars - 15 percent of my 375 dollar order).

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!!! I have cancer and ordered a cancer sticker from them for $9. I never received it. They said that the USPS lost it and sent me another one with a freebie. Never got that either. Both tracking numbers they gave me were invalid. They told me they were not refunding my money because they say they mailed it. So I'm out my money and my order. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Etsy is nothing but a scam!!! Amazon all the way!!! The baby will hear about this for sure.

Etsy was once a premier platform for handmade products, benefiting both buyers and sellers. However, the influx of non-handmade, inexpensive items has significantly diluted the site's original quality. Additionally, sellers face considerable challenges in obtaining customer support, as reaching a real person is exceedingly difficult. Consequently, Etsy no longer meets its former standards, leading to a loss of trust in the platform for both purchasing and selling.

Terrible company. Terrible customer service, terrible products. Quality is beyond cheap. Anyone that works there is a thief by association. Anyone who recommends this company is straight manipulating you. Not sure how these people look in the mirror.

I bought from Etsy because I took them at their word when they said they had buyer protection. I found out the hard way that their buyer protection is worthless to me. I purchased a custom dog crate that was supposed to be delivered in 8-10 weeks. It was over $2200. Prior to the delivery date, the seller messaged me that they sent me a bottle of cleaner for the crate and that the tracking number was for that and not the crate, which would be sent later.
Of course, with a tracking number, Etsy updated the purchase to delivered even though it was just the cleaner and not the crate. I immediately reached out to Etsy chat and told them what happened and asked them to change it to not delivered. They said they aren’t able to change it but don’t worry, they will absolutely help me if I still don’t receive the crate. After 10 weeks, I ask where is the crate. The seller says it was delayed due to moving and a metal shortage, but will be there in early April (ordered in December). In mid-April, I ask again. Response is “The driver couldn’t pick it up so next week”.
The next week, I ask again, “had to re-stain it, next week”. The next week, I ask again, no response so I contact Etsy for help. They say, "Sorry, we can’t help. It is too late. Try PayPal." Then when I go to PayPal, they are given the tracking number showing delivery for the cleaning bottle and told “delivered”, even though my chat with Etsy is still there telling them what happened and all of my chats with the seller are there showing he admits he never sent it. Plus there is common sense that the USPS is NOT going to ship a dog crate weighing hundreds of pounds so there would not be a USPS tracking number. The seller also closed his shop as soon as I filed my claim. I don’t feel like Etsy stood by their promised buyer protection with my purchase after I trusted them.

ETSY stole money from myself, and my daughter. I reached out three times for help, was completely ignored. Horrible company, no values, no respect for its customers. I have sent their legal team an email, I filed a dispute with my bank, I complained to the BBB, I don't know what else to do.... This shouldn't be legal. The store I bought from completely disappeared and they don't give a rat's....

Fraudulent company that steals money from sellers, closes your account without any complaints received, and uses the internal system as an excuse to refuse to disclose the reason for the account closure, withholding your money for their own use. This money is not yours!!

I have bought a number of things off the Etsy site but the past four years have had 4-5 disputes with merchants. Several of them have been obnoxious, uncooperative or actively trying to screw me and resist a resolution that was win-win. A couple of others reside in foreign countries where business ethics, efficiency, and communication standards are not close to what they are in this country, Communication with them to resolve the issue was lazy, slow, not complete. Key birthday presents were not delivered in the time frames promised, and no apology was made. I am becoming prejudiced against Etsy. One merchant sorta cared in a casual way, one was confused on his transitions I guess between Egypt and the US. They have nice stuff not sold anywhere else but merchants can put you through the ringer and Etsy management is slow and reluctant to step in and forcefully resolve the issue and be proactive for the customer.

My wife and I both created Etsy accounts to be able to sell, within 2 hours they were both banned we haven't even used it yet, when we did an appeal, within 30 seconds we got an auto reply telling us that our appeal has been rejected, so they're sitting there stealing people's money $15 per account and then instantly Banning them without giving them the chance to figure out what the hell is going wrong, with no customer service phone number or an email that anybody will answer. I call this company a scam in itself, not the people that sell on it. I'm hella pissed and if somebody doesn't answer some damn questions they'll be hearing from my lawyer

Very biased. Does not post negative reviews. Review opportunities blocked if previous negative feedback has been given. I have rated 3 bad businesses, none of which have been posted. Says reviews can be posted through May 7, yet there is no place to post it. Their "help" intervention consists of contacting the business, pretending they will correct it, and then never responding again. Other companies have been called out for the same thing. The smart one offered an apology and a $20 coupon for their mishap, then removed the business from their website. The others are no longer around. Etsy will be in this latter category quite soon. I have received surveys addressing these problems, yet no action has ever been taken. The same bad businesses continue to appear, all with their "5 star" ratings. I believe we call this "fraud".

I called customer service at least 3 times and was assured that my orders were canceled. One rep hung up on me. Packages are still arriving. I don’t know what to do. Call the BBB? On one of the packages the return address “is not for customer returns”. Where then?

Been perusing Etsy for a couple months; made a necklace purchase. Unfortunately, the stone was not the color pictured. Asked for a return / refund. Seller said she would not and could not! Don’t spend your money in a place like Etsy! Guessing it’s never good for the sellers either - What a “Racket.” Shop at one of your local small businesses instead - a much better purchase and help to local economy! Etsy stinks!
