Ebay is the best company with the best customer service. Please trust this review and please read. Ebay is the best company I've bought from and I've dealt with them all. Ebay has the best products, free shipping, no membership fees. It's just great. I would recommend anyone anywhere to shop and buy on Ebay. They're the best and their customer service is outstanding. Thanks Ebay.

Of the many terrible things about eBay... Here's one that's so egregious: I've basically proven now that when you promote an item via "pay-per-item-sold", eBay skews the results so that you're more often paying - even when someone doesn't click on the promoted ad. Explanation: So if you promote an item at 10%, you pay 10% of the item's cost each time someone clicks on the ad and then buys the item. However, I'm finding that even when someone buys your item when NOT clicking on the promotion, you're still paying for the promotion cost. FRAUD / SCAM ... Yup... That's eBay!

I have been selling since 2003 and will never buy or sell anything with eBay morons. They have no idea what they are doing. All of the customer service people are very stupid and foreign.

I have been selling on Ebay for about 10 years, only had a few bad buyers until recently. A buyer purchased an item which was detailed about everything including pics to show any flaws. This buyer took over two weeks to contact Ebay wanting a refund, said the item was "not as described" which was a false claim. Not only did Ebay refund the untruthful buyer, they let them keep my item! I will go to another platform, this is unacceptable.

Immediately told no refund or resending of product and the case is fully closed. Then spend the next 2 days trying to contact ANY human at Ebay and met with only AI hogwash telling me that my order does not exist. Never using again if I can simply not receive an order and then be completely out of luck on a simple purchase.

What has happened to the new Ebay is that scam sellers now can operate with immunity, They will use your bar code to deliver an empty mail piece to another address in the same city and zip code but a different address and name, so you order a $500 item that weight say 50lbs, they mail an empty envelope to somewhere else and show it as delivered, and as far as Ebay are concern your item was delivered to you. No matter what the post office says your case is closed, you have to go to your bank to get that refund and it will take up to 45 days if the scammer do not respond, bottom line close your account and stay away from Ebay or you will get scam sooner or later.

EBay has no customer service or a money back guarantee! They are liars. I placed three orders, was given tracking numbers, all three show delivered. But where were they delivered to? I then opened a case and customer service closed the case stating seller provided tracking number that shows package delivered, so I again appealed that yes there is tracking number but it does not show that it’s delivered to my address and the main reason for opening the the case is that although tracking number just shows delivered but main issue is package is delivered somewhere but not to my address, customer service closed the appeal as well stating the same that tracking number shows delivered, very disappointing, DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY, VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I’ve been a loyal eBay seller, but this experience has been nothing short of devastating. I sold a functional Etcmc Miner, which the buyer falsely claimed was defective. Without proof, eBay approved the return. The buyer shipped the item to an incorrect address, and it was sent back to them. I provided a new return label and clear instructions, but they ignored me. eBay ultimately refunded the buyer and left me empty-handed—no item, no payment.
eBay’s return system and policies make it incredibly easy for dishonest buyers to exploit sellers. I followed every procedure, appealed the decision, and still received no support. Sellers beware: eBay may not protect you when it matters most. This is an unacceptable way to treat its seller community. I’m filing complaints with consumer protection agencies and warning others of these systemic issues.

They refunded my money on Aug 7, 2024, but not the postage. I showed them the receipt and tracking number, which did little good, because they had no intention of refunding my postage expense. That was almost 4 months ago. I have sent them numerous messages and they ignore all of them. eBay won't help because, as far as they know, my money was refunded.

eBay is a great place to find items and that is why they are getting the one star. Otherwise it would be zero. Recently I have had a lot of issues with sellers sending me offers. I have tried numerous times to block the offers. I have read numerous articles how to block offers but to no avail I was still getting offers. This has been extremely frustrating. I look at an item and the next thing I know I have an offer like a minute later. It reeks of desperation on the part of the seller.
I have sold items recently on eBay also. eBay sets the weight and the cost to ship the item. All my items cost over double what eBay stated it would cost and the buyer has paid what eBay stated even though the weight was right.I have had to eat the extra postage. It would of been more profitable for me to just throw the items away. Then eBay held onto the funds for 2 weeks and doled them out as it saw fit.
Recently I had a very bad moment when shopping for a good used ski jacket. I saw a ski jacket I liked so I saved it and like 30 seconds later I received an offer. I flew into a rage and closed my account. Then when I calmed down I notified eBay I wanted to keep it open. eBay refused to re-open my account as I could not remember the original address I opened the account with. I told them the city and state but could not remember where exactly I resided on that day and year. Screw eBay if they want to be so petty.
I have decided to let eBay close my account and if I see something I want I will just Buy It Now as a guest and won't have to worry about those annoying seller offers. Another thing I don't like about eBay is you can't leave negative feedback for a buyer. Over the years eBay has taken all the fun out of bidding on and winning an auction. Now it is more like any other site and you can just Buy It Now.

All I can say is boycott EBAY. My husband passed away 3 years ago. I placed an ad to sell a lift for a van. I removed the ad because I was able to sell it privately. Fast forward over a year later and someone bought the lift (over $10,000) because the ad had gone back up! How did that happen!? Then I get an email was taking more than $2,000 in fees from my bank account. I notified them of the mistake via chat and email because you can't speak to a human being. I had to go to my bank and close my account and any cards attached to it in order for them to not be able to take funds from my account.
After relentlessly emailing and calling someone finally called me back. When they heard about my husband dying - only then did they agree to refund my fees. Then I tired to close my account. After multiple emails, chats and calls they suspended my account so I could not close it unless I put a payment method back into their system which I refused to do over $0.40.... Yes 40 cents. I purchased an item on eBay, apparently as a "guest" (since I do not recall ever having an account-- certainly did not use it this time). The seller posts that it allows returns within 14 days, buyer to pay return shipping. I was OK with that. Unfortunately, I used a debit card. The seller did not send a confirming e-mail with an order number. The item arrived timely, but with no packing slip or other identifying information (and no order number) except the UPS shipping label which had a physical address. The item was as described but did not fit and I wanted to return it for a replacement. I could not find an order number or transaction detail on eBay, apparently because I did not use an account.
When I could not access the automated return function without an order number, I contacted eBay through its Customer Service e-mail system. I provided them with all the identifying info I had: photos of the UPS label, the product with tags, the bank record showing a debit to my account from "eBay", and the seller's e-Bay page. For the first several go-rounds the non-English speaking reps (a different one EVERY time) seemed to dispute that I had even bought the product from e-Bay, (impossible, they said, that I did not have an order number) then refused or were unable to look up the transaction from their end. They refused to contact the seller, which they MUST be able to do since they have a business relationship, or to let me contact the seller, which I guess is part of their business model, to make sure that seller and buyer cannot get together and somehow deprive them of their "cut" on the transaction.
Once I got a supervisor involved (apparently English speaking, but again a different person EVERY time) it quickly deteriorated to their obsession that "my" account, which I had not used for this transaction, had been "suspended" 2 years ago (news to me that I even had an account) for some unspecified misconduct by someone using the account. When it became apparent that eBay was incapable of dealing with my problem, I told them I would simply dispose of the product, and requested to be directed to a site/page where I could post this complaint and give them a "0-star" review for their lack of customer service. Again, repeated refusal to address THAT request, and pretending/ misunderstanding that I was "appealing" the suspension of the mythical account (and refusing to tell me what the nature of their problem was), despite my telling them numerous times that I was not concerned about the account, was not appealing.
I finally gave up and told them I would never deal with eBay again and would post my complaint to government consumer protection agencies, BBB, etc. Thankfully the product only cost $40. Lesson: use a credit card on-line, so the transaction can be cancelled through the card issuer for this kind of fraud/failure to deliver. I made the mistake of assuming that was not necessary because eBay was a reputable business. Obviously not the case.

If I can help just one person avoid going through what I have been through with eBay, then I will consider that a win. I needed to sell a pretty expensive electronic for some much-needed money. To reduce the chance of someone running off with this product were I to show it to them publicly, I decided NAIVELY to post it online on eBay so I could just ship it out to an interested buyer, get my money and be done with it. I wasn't happy with the fact that eBay was going to take over $100 out of my earnings, but I needed the money.
Within hours of posting the ad for this electronic I got a bite from someone interested in the phone. He tried to haggle me on the price a little bit, but I wouldn't budge and even provided more photos and videos through eBay's private messaging system of this product. The buyer gave in and agreed to buy the product at full price, even though I was gonna get jipped on over $100 of it because of Ebay's policies.
I gathered everything I needed that very morning, shipped the product out with an extra charging cord simply out of my own niceness (even though it wasn't even included anywhere on the ad in the first place), and immediately messaged the seller with a photo of tracking information. I then proceeded to wait for eBay to do their part and transition the money into the preferred method of payment I had linked.
According to the tracking information I was given, the item arrived in two days and all was quiet and I thought absolutely everyone was satisfied. I got my money, the buyer got the product. Everything is cool, right? Fast forward an additional 5 days. I receive an email and notification that the buyer is requesting a refund for the product. Dumbfounded, I open up eBay to investigate what's going on, and the buyer is requesting a refund because the electronic I sent out was "not as described" and "had scratches on it." This most definitely was not the case when the item left my possession at all.
The buyer provided some incredibly low quality photos in his return request of my product, circling what he deemed "defects" when myself and my partner and another friend of ours looked at these photos from top to bottom (from what we could see, of course, because the photos looked like they were taken with a phone or camera from 1999) and saw absolutely nothing of note.
I immediately reported the buyer on eBay and finally managed to get in touch with a CSR over the phone. I could barely understand a word she was saying and nor could my partner who was sitting right next to me while the CSR was on speakerphone. Her english was almost non-existent after I plead my case on what was going on. She was basically reading off of whatever prompts they have to follow and told me that I had already taken the right first step in reporting the buyer. I asked her what else I could do to escalate this situation and her answer was to do nothing, and for us to wait 5 days and call eBay support again while "they do their part."
I'm already angry that I am getting conned by a seller who is making false claims about myself and my product, and eBay isn't helping the situation all all, but I reluctantly call them back after 5 days because I truly cannot afford to lose the money for this product that I just received payment for and transferred into my savings for bills. Ironically, when a CSR calls me (after I chat with an automated chat bot), it's the exact same CSR that I had spoken with 5 days earlier.
I get absolutely nowhere with this CSR, and I ask to speak with a Manager about the entire situation. She finally gets a Manager on the call, and the Manager barely speaks English any clearer than the person before her. For the 500th time, I plead the entire case and goings on to her and her advice to me was to accept the return (because there was going to be no other option) and wait for the product to come back to me before taking other steps. I was fearful that eBay would take back that money from me that I had earned for the product, but I was assured that that was not going to happen.
Several days pass, and I finally receive the electronic device back. I open up the packaging and there it is, my electronic device, in mint condition, with nary a smudge or a scratch on it (and yes, it was truly the product that I had sent out with clear identifying information on it to prove that). I twist and turn the device, in clear daylight, and look for anything that I can that shows me what in the world the buyer was talking about in his return request with those awful quality photos. I see nothing. Also, to note, the person who bought this product from me did not return the charger that I had sent out with it (which was a pretty penny in itself). So, of course, by this point I am even more angry and I know I am going to have to call eBay and talk with someone who is going to give me the run-around again.
eBay's website is giving out buggy errors left and right ("Something went wrong"). The automated chat bot is being unhelpful and only giving me the option to "email an Agent" as opposed to getting someone to call me. I try calling the number I had previously received a call from through the call logs on my phone, but to no avail. I finally try again a few moments later and am able to be connected with a CSR. He speaks clear and concise English this time, and that briefly gives me hope because I am hoping he will understand what I am going through and be able to give good advice back, and help get this situation resolved. Was I ever wrong....
I give the entire spiel again, A to Z, on everything that happened, even though I know they can see absolutely everything from their end too that has happened. The CSR pretty much bites back at me that the buyer will, in fact, be receiving his money back for this return despite the fact that he completely lied about the condition of the product he received. That exact product was sitting right in front of me during all of this without a single defect on it, and I was pleading with the CSR to give me the option to prove that through videos and photos as evidence.
I got nowhere. I eventually even asked the CSR straight up "So, even though he's conning me and I can prove that, he's still going to get his full refund back?" and the CSR just flat out said "Yep." When I asked him to explain why, he asked me if I received the product back unscathed, and I said yes, and he specified that that was why the ruling was going in the favor of the buyer (which makes absolutely ZERO sense), and then proceeded to tell me that I can just re-try selling the phone again, and that I could try to appeal everything once I got a final email in from eBay about the case.
Of course I followed the link and appealed the case, and even provided clear photo proof (no option to provide videos, or I would have done that too) and that's where I am at now. Given how this entire situation has gone so far, I absolutely do not expect anything good to come out of this. I have also already received an automated email specifying that $** will be coming out of the linked payment method of mine on eBay to repay the buyer back.
Without using expletives (even though I would love to), I would just like to specify that this has been one of the worst experiences I've ever been through when it comes to product selling and purchase, and had I known beforehand that eBay is notorious for ruling in favor of scammers, I never would have taken this route. After eBay officially takes out the money for my product, and rejects my appeal (I'm fully expecting it), I will be completely deleting my eBay account and trying to sell this product elsewhere to someone who will appreciate it and won't con me out of my money.
So, if you're considering using eBay (especially for an electronic device), I would highly recommend against it unless you want to risk getting scammed and then having eBay basically tell you that, yes, they will be siding with the person who scammed you, thus being scammers themselves. I'm out of a lot of money because of this fiasco, and now I have to start all the way at the beginning again selling this product by other means and hoping I can get back some of the money that I desperately need.

I was told by Customer Service that the buyer simply needed to send me an email via the eBay system saying they received the item at the time of pick up. eBay admits this was incorrect information, and now says the buyer (not very web savvy) needs to leave positive feedback before I can be paid--or wait 30 days. eBay's excuse is that this is "policy", and even though it was eBay's error nothing can be done. I asked for a refund of the eBay fee because of the incorrect information, delayed payment, and wasted time on the phone--and they basically laughed at me. Don't use these bozos if you can avoid it.

Ebay really sucks for sellers. You can list something, and 4 months later it sells. They don't contact you to notify you that something sold, then they charge you the commission, even though you didn't know the items sold. They can reach out with collections to collect a commission, but they can't reach out to notify you that you missed a sale. They should be calling you or texting you with a reminder, and even then, they shouldn't charge a commission until the deal is done. When you do discover the issue and attempt to rectify it, your listing is locked, the communications are locked, and you can't even contact the buyer to fix anything. After being a seller for 10 years, we are moving on to Marketplace.
2. The notifications and communications suck.
3. They lock down listings so that you can't fix problems.
4. Far too many rules now.
5. The website/back office sucks. Needs a complete redesign.

We were an anchor store on eBay for over 10 years and as their fees went up their seller services diminished to 0. We are no longer an anchor store because of the following and will be completely moving away from ebay in the next 30 days. They are now like a insurance company with a DENY button they hit when you ask for help with feedback or false claims or scammers. They have become extremely lazy and there is no longer any support for sellers. I do not need to go into the details of how they continue to let us down as sellers, but suffice to say, other platforms are taking up the slack where ebay has completely fallen apart. Whatnot, Facebook Marketplace and many others have filled the void for us at lower fees and stronger sales.
Our 7 figure sales per year I am sure will not be missed by ebay but these other platforms have welcomed us with open arms and actually help their sellers with issues and to become more successful. Something ebay no longer does or cares about. We have paid fees into ebay over the last 15 years in excess of $1 million dollars and in the beginning they were accessible and took strides to help their sellers. That is not the case anymore. I would suggest for anyone that is looking to start selling online to look past ebay to other platforms as mentioned above for the lone reason of actually getting some customer help along your journey of building your online business.

All together, over $8,800 was tagged to my credit line, and that affected my ability to make other purchases. This went on for 5 days and I contacted eBay, and all I got was a runaround - they ask me to wait (maybe a few days or weeks and rarely a month) or contact my bank (which I did and they told me they can't cancel pre-authorization - the merchant has to do it), but they refuse to take responsibility or do anything about it. A buyer purchased an item that was listed as “For Parts Not Working”. The buyer upon receiving the item at first claimed that the item was not received, I contacted the buyer and found out that they were upset that the item didn’t work. I explained that the item was listed for parts only, not working and advised them to correct the type of return and I would make a full refund. I contacted EBay by phone about this issue that very same day and advised them what was going on. They told me that they were going to make notes in the case and not to worry about it.
A month later when the buyer didn’t return the items EBay closed The case. One day later I received a scathing negative review from this buyer. I did place a note on the negative review but no one ever reads these. I then contacted EBay to have the negative review removed. Ebay rejected my request to have it removed. Their response was that the case was closed. Since this occurred my sales have suffered. I have been selling on eBay for over 20 years, and over the past few years it has been getting worse, with each consecutive year being worse than the prior year. Ebay is so bias towards the buyers, favoring the buyer over the seller every time. The buyer wins most of the time, often getting a full refund and keeping the item at the seller's expense. The Seller ALWAYS LOSES to a dishonest buyer. Whenever you sell to a dishonest buyer (there are millions more criminals on Ebay since Biden was elected) you have to spend a lot of time and money to reduce your loses. Ebay will always refuse your requests, siding with the buyer all the time. You have to pay additional postage for a return, and provide evidence that the buyer received the exact item 'As Described', and eBay will still side with the buyer.
IF you are lucky, you may get your item back and only be out shipping charges both ways. But you may not even get your item back, and the buyer may get a refund, so you have a huge loss of money and time. eBay always favors the buyer, so you have a huge battle to get justice. eBay does not care at all about the sellers, they only care about the buyer's experience and the nice reviews they leave when they get your stuff for free. This is why sellers are prevented by ebay from leaving negative feedback. They changed this policy years ago to encourage criminal activity on eBay, allowing criminals to have 100% positive feedback, while honest sellers receive negative feedback from dishonest buyers who do not get their order for free.
Ebay makes money on every transaction, encouraging criminal activity on their site. EBay is also unethical in all the fees they charge the seller. They even charge the seller 15% additional on the postage they buy, and they charge the seller 15% additional on the taxes the buyer pays. EBay has criminal tendencies and this is attracting more criminals to their site. SELLER BEWARE!!! After 20 years of selling on eBay, I am closing my store. It's a war zone now, not a pleasant experience at all, not fun, not profitable any longer, just one big headache. STAY AWAY FROM EBAY!!!

Or as recently used a wrong tracking number, when I clicked on to check my tracking it took me to Amazon.com and it said, "Sorry we can't find that package!" I sent several messages to this seller and I first asked them to please let me know if the balls on the end of the curtain rod can be removed and put back on because I noticed the openings of my curtains were small, but they never answered me but shipped it right away instead.
I also sent messages to them about the tracking number being wrong but they never responded to this either. So I sent an email to the Better Business Bureau and I called The Federal Trade Commission and made complaint reports. I also posted this on eBay's buyer community but unfortunately, the people who responded to my posts weren't the kind helpful people who responded to the many posts over the years about the fake tracking number scam.
I also contacted eBay about this too, but unlike in the past they usually sent me a message back in other cases when there was a problem like their site saying my item was delivered but it wasn't delivered to my address, and they usually said that if the seller doesn't respond in several business days they will step in and I usually got a deserved refund but they didn't even respond at all this time.
I eventually not that long afterwards did get my curtain rod delivered to me and I let the seller, eBay and The Better Business Bureau and The Federal Trade Commission know this. I recently got a shocking upsetting email from eBay saying that I was suddenly unfairly suspended indefinitely without any real explanation or warning! I did get about 4 refunds recently but there were some problems with some items, I also tried to cancel a few items before they were even shipped yet buy eBay wouldn't let me so the sellers gave me a refund.
I really thought the suspension email was a spam email until I went to my account and all it said was "reason" and claimed that I violated their site's rules but never said how. My last communication was in messages with a seller who offered and gave me a refund was friendly and I thanked them very much as I always did.

On June 18, 2024 the buyer falsely claimed the item was defective and initiated the return. I received the return on June 22, 2024 and I took a video while unboxing the return. The next day, I tested the item and I confirmed it was fully operational. I made sure everything was captured on video, just in case.
On June 24, I complied with a refund request from eBay for $145.04. That is $6.73 more than the payout amount of $138.31. On the same day, I spoke to an eBay agent, who confirmed that I had to pay the cost of the return shipping. She refused to explain further and I can only assume, the $0.40 was for the listing fee + $6.33 cost of return shipping = $6.73. I’m not willing to read the fine print therefore, no contest!
However, on July 1, 2024 eBay charged me again for the return shipping cost of $6.33 for the same item. I spoke to an eBay agent and demanded an explanation. I've read through a couple pages of complaints on this site. My complaint is slightly different from what I've read. My experiences with the company have been almost all positive. I am mostly a buyer and have been for about 30 years. I have purchased items, mostly coins from Ebay during the 30-year period. I notice that the company recently changed its search programs in ways that negatively impact how I do my searches. It used to be that I could research multiple years of certain denominations of coins at the same time. For example, I recently began a collection of mint state Roosevelt dimes from 1965 to current year. A complete collection consists of well over 100 coins spanning a period of 60 years.
As recently as a couple of months ago, I could use Ebay parameters to search multiple years simultaneously in conjunction with the condition of coin I was looking to purchase. I could choose the condition (say MS 69) then select a box listing all years available at that grade and choose multiple years to look through all at once. This saved a whole lot of time and effort. Under the new Ebay search procedures, I now have to research coins one year at a time. I WILL NOT do that!
I have not been able to find anything in the updated website which allows searching for multiple disjointed years at the same time. Ebay used to be my starting point for searches. The company is now at the bottom of the barrel. I will only use them as a last resort if I fail to find what I’m looking for through other sites like Stack’s Bowers, Heritage Auctions, Great Collections, David Lawrence etc. or comparatively new sites like What Not. Ebay does have a right to change their website and search parameters even if such changes make searches less convenient, more difficult, more time consuming and more annoying. I have the right to tell them to stuff it.

Here's how the scam works; A new user lists an item for sale and the minute you ship the package they use another account to file a complaint. This triggers Ebay's algorithm to suspend your account. Then the scammer receives your item and claims it isn't what they ordered and Ebay gives them a refund.
Never ship anything to **. You will never get paid and you will never get your property back. Shame on Ebay for being so inept and to side with con-artists and crooks. After multiple attempts to contact eBay I was finally able to speak with someone. She has me submit all information to the eBay Customer Service team just to be told they cannot refund or credit the account because the card was previously used. So now I am out of $100.00. Not to mention when I went back to CVS the store manager opened another gift card it that card only had 11 digits as well.

I got scammed by a buyer after the buyer claimed he "didn't need an item" due to it arriving late (Thanks USPS!). He decided to keep it anyway & refused to pay. After several calls to customer "service" & chat sessions, I'm now being told today that, not only was my (Multiple!) requests for escalation never acted on, but now, since it's conveniently been a month since the last conversation (after I was told to wait!), there's nothing they can do.

When you purchase a used item and it gets shipped via eBay, not only is the shipping painfully slow but I then have to pay extra when it crosses the border. It adds an extra $30 to cost. I now check how vendor will ship and if it’s his eBay, I stay far away. USPS is the way to go.

Sellers beware! eBay, without permission, puts conditions on the release of deposit money to sellers in bad faith, AFTER the sale is completed, so they can make money on interest carry. If you are selling a car DO NOT USE eBay or otherwise notify seller that you will not accept any DEPOSIT given to eBay as an acceptable form of payment. Tell Buyer they must wire your deposit directly or send you a check. Otherwise, eBay will take advantage of you which is, in my opinion, tortious interference in the legal contract between buyer and seller.

First, eBay sales are slow and low; there are so many better options for sellers. But more importantly, I designated my listings on eBay to be 100% of monies donated to my favorite charity -- earlier this year I thus donated several hundred dollars -- or at least I was told I did by eBay -- but then I learned that eBay sends all donations from eBay sales to PayPal Giving Fund. When I learned that I told eBay that I don't want the money to go to PPGF because PPGF has a history of not delivering donations to the designated charity; eBay said they only do the donations via PPGF; I then told the eBay manager that I would ONLY ship the items if eBay promises that eBay itself will pay the donation amounts to my charity if PPGF doesn't do so.
Ebay promised that to me (I have a recording to prove it). Now as suspected, PPGF hasn't paid the charity, and when I call eBay to report this, they say it's not their problem, and they REFUSE to keep the promise made to me. So I am out very valuable items and my charity is out several hundred dollars. The items were supposed to provide for them. I've removed all my listings from eBay and won't list with them again unless they keep their promise immediately -- and I will NEVER allow my donations to go to or through Giving Fund again.

Been selling on Ebay 18 years, at one point selling 40-50 k per month, I have watched and been forced to accommodate, participate in all the changes they have made over the years, I have taken lots of losses for scamming buyers and lost packages etc, but what sucks about them the most is the ever increasing fees to sell, I tried the Promoted listings scam they promote, had to raise my prices to accommodate the extra 10% fee on top of the 15 % they already charge, just to get my sales back up after they dropped 85 percent to a fraction of what I was selling before, it's not my products, they sell well elsewhere, Ebay manipulates the algorithms and favor sellers in searches that pay the higher seller fees, now they are promoting "pay per click" charging .60 cents every time someone looks at your listing.
Ebay is not worth wasting your time with, they want to take all the profit and leave you responsible for lost items, fraud and return shipping. What a shame, it was a great idea and I used to make money on the platform. I had over 3500 products listed and now down to 550, my goal is minimize it to next to nothing. I am sure they have been losing a lot of great sellers like my store was.

Macbook Pro Computer not returned & funds taken from account. I had a very frustrating and painful “selling” situation with e-Bay. I am writing to warn others of this rather elegant scam. I've complained to eBay and they refused to accept any responsibility. Long story short, I "sold" my Macbook pro, which was working perfectly to a “buyer” in Delaware mid-December, 2023. After receiving the laptop, the putative buy claimed it didn’t work. e-bay issued them a return address label - and the "buyer" allegedly sent it back to me at my address.
But this “buyer” was able to alter the address label in such a way that it came to an addressee and address within 100 yards of my house but with a name of the person it was addressed to, but not me. The altered the address cleverly to change the street number and recipient. For example they changed 4926 Oakshore Lane to 4216 Oakshore Place. (Neither addresses are real, but examples represent how the “buyer’ altered the address to make it appear as "delivered." Here’s the kicker, the “buyer’ returned a small envelope and not a 3-pound package I'd sent with my computer in it.
Later, I contacted the local post-office and they verified this “package” from the USPS geolocation photo was sent to a similar address as my home but was not delivered to my home. They also verified the “package” delivered to a real address and new recipient was letter-sized [they provided me a picture] not a computer.
I found all this out was after complaining to e-bay that I did not get my computer back, and them telling me to check with neighbors, wait a few more days. e-bay never believed me that my computer did not arrive. I then was forced by e-bay to refund the “buyer” the money they had sent me. the crooks got the computer and their money back. My computer never arrived, and I got ripped off by the buyer and by e-bay. As noted, within 10 days after the sale was marked "returned" within the e-bay system, I was forced to refund the “buyer’s” money. It turns out all deliveries from USPS are geo-located via a picture, and what the local postal manager showed me was a picture of a small letter being delivered to a house I could almost hit with a rock. e-bays "system" was tricked into believing my computer had been delivered back to me, when in fact only a bogus “letter” got delivered nearby.
It was amazingly hard to get anyone to listen to me at e-bay, and after spending hours upon on this and finally persisting and I got someone at e-bay customer service to listen to my whole story. They did not make it easy, and I did send all materials to them. They have an ever-shifting cast of support people. But, once I had reviewed the matter in detail many times [they clearly did not believe what I was telling them], the person on the phone abruptly told me, it was USPS’s fault and responsibility. This was after he consulted several times with his supervisor. He told me there was nothing I could do. I complained and informed them they did not vet the buyer well enough, and allowed this "buyer" via their flawed system to be a theft conduit. I contacted their legal department with dates, times, all contact information of everyone involved in this matter, and have never heard a word from them.
The “e-bay buyer” portrayed themselves as sending back my computer, but in fact they kept it, and then e-bay’s procedures subsequently forced me to “re-pay” the fake buyer and lose my computer, and any value I might obtain from selling it to someone else. In addition to losing my valuable Macbook Pro Computer in a fraudulent transaction, I lost both time and money in the many hours I was forced to investigate this theft and fraud. I reported this all to the USPS postal inspector, and they opened a case.
I will never sell from or buy anything from e-bay ever again, and I want to warn any and all people to be very careful when selling a high value product, that you are at the mercy of the "buyer" and this scam could happen to you, and you would have no effective rights with e-bay's system. e-bay did and will unjustly take the word and side of felonious “buyers.”

I was bidding on an item on eBay on 12/18/2023, which had a high bid of $406.00 from another bidder. I started bidding and indicated that I wanted my max bid to stop at $520.00. eBay then increased the bid to $413.00 by me. It stayed at $413.00 until 2 seconds before the auction ended and then jumped to $530.00 and said the auction had ended. No other bids showed up on the screen. When I looked at the bid history it indicated that my bid was increased by eBay to $520.00 right before expiration and they allowed a bid of $530.00 to beat mine after the auction had expired. (See the attached screenshot) In other words, eBay increased my bid to my max amount to OUTBID MYSELF and then accepted a bid after the auctions expiration time. When I called and spoke with a bidding supervisor, she speculated that a number of bids must have taken place within milliseconds of the expiration, which caused my bid to reach the maximum amount.
I asked her if that was the case, then why didn’t any of them show up on the bidding screen. She couldn’t answer that question nor could she see other bids on her end. I then asked her why they allowed the final bid that beat me to take place after the auction expired? She claimed that their policy is that if the auction expires at 10:47am it really doesn’t expire until 10:47 and 59 seconds. I asked her to show me in their bidding policies, or any of their policies, where that is listed. She admitted that it isn’t listed in their policies. Really? When you go to a sporting event and the game is over when the clock hits “0”, is it really over at “0 and 59 seconds? When I complained to the BBB about what transpired, I got a totally different explanation from eBay as to why they accepted a bid past the expiration time. They said if the ad was posted at 10:47:10 seconds then that is when it really expires.
I asked them if that was the case, then why don’t they post the exact expiration time on the ad because their sophisticated software is surely capable of doing that? They once again, had no explanation why and it isn’t posted on their website. When I asked for the total bid history to show that there was a reason for them to up my bid to my max amount they tried to tell me they couldn’t give me that because it was a matter of privacy. So, the bid history they posted on their website, which they claim was not the complete history, is ok to post but the complete history is a matter of privacy.
Ebay upped my bid to the max at the last second in what appears to be an attempt to maximize profits. They also create nonexistent verbal policies to allow invalid bids to win expired auctions in what appears to be an attempt to not get sued or investigated for deceptive business practices. They engage in deceptive and probably illegal sales policies and don’t care.
