Users can browse over 5,000 vegan-friendly recipes

For many vegans, one of the biggest challenges of the diet itself is sleuthing out vegan-friendly recipes that are actually tasty.

Now, one new app has done the hard work of tracking down those meat, egg, and dairy-free recipes for you. Food Monster, by digital media startup One Green Planet, is packed with over 5,000 plant-based recipes.

The app -- which launched on Earth Day -- is one of the largest vegan food apps currently out there. It features a clean-looking layout and high-definition photos that will appeal to eco-friendly millennials.

Planet-friendly

The dietary choices we make can impact our health as well as the health of our planet. according to Nil Zacharias, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of One Green Planet.

“By choosing to eat more plant-based foods, we can drastically cut our carbon footprint, save precious water supplies, help ensure that vital crop resources are fed to people rather than livestock, and give thousands of species a fighting chance for survival,” says Zacharias, adding that we can make a difference simply by changing the way we eat.

Food Monster hopes to encourage everyone to #EatForThePlanet.

Themes and categories

In addition to recipes, users can browse themes such as dairy-free cheeses, raw vegan desserts, and budget-friendly meals.

Type A list-makers and fans of organization will revel in the fact that the recipes are sorted into categories (cuisine, occasion, ingredient, etc.) and further sorted by diet type. Different diets -- nut-free, gluten-free, and soy-free, to name a few -- each get their own worlds within the app.

Once you’ve found a winner of a recipe, you’ll see a list of ingredients and instructions that are simple and easy-to-follow. The app also aims to help consumers discover the benefits of eating plant-based foods by giving them the ability to ask questions and share tips with a community of “Food Monsters.”

The iPhone app is free, but a small subscription fee will get you access to premium features. Versions of Food Monster for iPad and Android will be available this summer.
