Amazon rolls out new grocery subscription for Prime members, EBT customers

The new subscription is available in over 3,500 cities across the country

Amazon has introduced a new grocery subscription that is geared specifically towards Prime members and customers using EBT.

The subscription offers unlimited grocery deliveries on orders over $35 from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and local grocers and retailers available on Amazon. Some of the available retailers include: Rite Aid, Save Mart, Pet Food Express, Mission Wine & Spirits, and more.

“This new grocery subscription benefit provides even more value and savings on delivery fees for customers who regularly order groceries from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and the variety of local grocery and specialty retailers on Amazon,” said Tony Hoggett, senior vice president of worldwide grocery stores at Amazon.

“Our goal is to build a best-in-class grocery shopping experience — whether shopping in-store or online — where Amazon is the first choice for selection, value, and convenience. We have many different customers with many different needs, and we want to save them time and money every time they shop for groceries.”

What does the subscription include?

The grocery subscription will cost Amazon Prime members $9.99 per month. For customers with a registered EBT card, the plan will run $4.99 per month – without purchasing a Prime membership. All customers can try out the subscription for free for 30 days to see how the program works.

Some of the main benefits of the program:

  • One-hour delivery at no extra cost

  • Unlimited 30-minute pickup orders of any size

  • Priority access to recurring weekly grocery orders

  • Unlimited delivery on orders over $35 from local and specialty grocery stores

In the announcement, Amazon claimed that the subscription will pay for itself with just one order per month.

Amazon began testing out the subscription service in late 2023 in three cities in the U.S. – Sacramento, Calif.; Columbus, Ohio; and Denver, Colorado. The company said that a recent survey of subscribers found that the large majority were extremely or very satisfied with access to unlimited free deliveries.

The subscription will now be available in over 3,500 cities across the country, and consumers can learn more and sign up here.
