How U-Haul U-Box works

U-Haul U-Box offers portable moving and storage containers to customers in the U.S. and Canada. All U-Box services are sold a la carte, so you can customize your order to your needs and add on extras like storage, domestic and international shipping, third-party labor and insurance.

Customers can obtain quotes and reserve U-Box containers online. Containers can then be delivered to your home, or you can pick them up and haul them independently.

U-Haul U-Box types of moves

U-Haul U-Box isn’t a traditional moving company. Instead, it offers a la carte services for a DIY move. The company delivers a weather-resistant container to your home, and you can load it at your own pace.

You can then use the containers for temporary storage or to move your belongings to a new location when ready. U-Haul offers both storage and transport services for an additional charge.

U-Haul U-Box additional services

A standard U-Haul U-Box order only includes the monthly container rental, and customers can add shipping and storage services as needed. In addition, you add the following:

  • Moving Help Marketplace: Connects you with local third-party providers offering hourly packing and loading help. Moving Help lets you compare options, see pricing and ratings and book all in one place.
  • Insurance: Because insurance isn’t included with your container rental, customers can add protection for both shipping and storage. Both options are available in coverage levels of $1,000 to $20,000.
  • Packing supplies: You can order supplies like moving boxes, tape, bubble cushioning wrap, stretch wrap and padlocks to secure your containers.

U-Haul U-Box coverage

U-Haul offers two types of insurance for U-Box customers — both charged per container. Insurance isn’t included with the container rental, but it can be added in coverage levels of $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000. However, there are no insurance options that cover valuable items such as jewelry, antiques, art or money.
