What is Zippy Shell?

Zippy Shell is a moving company that specializes in portable self-storage and moving container rental. You can choose DIY packing and loading or work with one of its partners for a full-service move. Zippy Shell delivers storage containers on wheels to your home or business, and you can fill them at your own pace before having them transported.

How does Zippy Shell work?

Zippy Shell delivers self-storage moving containers, which you can load and have transported according to your schedule and preferences. The company offers 10- and 15-foot container options — you have up to three days to pack these vessels, which can be stored in Zippy Shell’s climate-controlled storage facility or delivered directly to your destination. The containers are on wheels, which makes them manageable on city streets, sidewalks and driveways.

How much does Zippy Shell cost?

Although Zippy Shell’s website doesn’t list prices, it does state that it requires 50% of your payment two days before delivery (the rest is due after your container lands at the destination warehouse or 31 days after your initial delivery date, whichever comes first). The final price depends on how far you travel, how much you take and when you move. A protection plan is available for all moves.

Still have questions?

Is Zippy Shell worth it?

Zippy Shell is worth it if you need flexible time and storage options for your move. It gives you three days to pack your belongings rather than charging hourly for loading, which can make for a less stressful experience. Its prices are reasonable, but its lack of pricing online makes comparison difficult. Zippy Shell is also available only in select states, so check its website to see if it operates in your area.

Zippy Shell is an unethical company with completely deceptive billing practices. I would not recommend for anyone to use their services. We were quoted for a full long distance move and given a total price, which included the 1st month storage for the containers, fuel, and loading/unloading. After paying the 50% deposit we were randomly charged $560.74 for the 1st month storage for 2 containers. I assumed that maybe they invoiced those fees separately but they were still apart of the total price as indicated on all of our correspondence and verbally confirmed via Zippy Shell and 1-800-PACKRAT associates. When charging us for the remainder of our balance, they all of a sudden added a $565.65 fuel surcharge that was not agreed to or ever communicated between the countless reps that we spoke to. Our move that was quoted verbally and in writing for a total price of $6,697.49 was over charged by $1,226.40!

When speaking to the resolution team we were told that they would need to review the phone call recordings before agreeing to a refund to us for the double storage charge for 2 containers AND they were only willing to refund us half of the fuel surcharge fee. That is completely unacceptable. Please be aware that Zippy Shell aka 1800-PACKRAT will not honor their total move price fees, will randomly split up the invoices to aid in confusion, and will add in fees such as a fuel surcharge that they never mention, address, or even feature as a possibility on their website or in any correspondence. Avoid this company at all cost and DO NOT give them access to your credit card.

I would like to express my gratitude and respect for your service. I was told that a $420 of additional fuel surcharge has been imposed on my order. I felt it was totally unfair and unexpected. I protested with the customer service agent but knew that it is probably a corporate policy and cannot be avoided. To my surprise and pleasure, I spoke to a supervisor (Jashua) who listened to me, understood my point of view and was able to provide a relief. He took care of the surcharge. While I was a totally unhappy customer, I am now a fully satisfied and very happy customer. I appreciate PackRat/Zippy to hire such professional and courteous folks who care about business future and customer relationship. Best Regards.

I have sent letters to the business regarding this issue. The damage happened after ZippyShell / 1800 PackRat took possession of my belongings. They destroyed an irreplaceable bar chair that is part of a set, which is no longer useful with the missing chair, an oil space heater, two tall standing lamps, studio recording equipment, crushed boxes, broke the leg that I had made for my sewing machine table.

All of the items are no longer produced by the manufacturers. I will need to buy an entire new set of bar chairs. That is expensive and so far I have found nothing comparable. I will need to replace the other items with much more expensive facsimiles. The pod looked like a garbage dump when the movers opened the gate. It has already cost me considerable time, gas, tire wear, and car wear as I have searched for substitutes for what they destroyed. I have not found suitable substitutes after searching for almost 2 months.

The New York side movers who loaded the to pods were hostile. They ignored my repeated instructions on how to handle my belongings. They ignored the fragile stickers all over many of my boxes. They ignored my instructions as to how I needed the pod to be loaded. The foreperson was very hostile. He put boxes and objects on top of boxes that I had explicitly told him could NOT have anything placed on top of them. I had boxes that I had to create for some of my designs. They absolutely had to be placed as top boxes. I had to repeat myself endlessly and chase after them to repeat the same instructions. The foreperson harshly responded to my instructions by screaming that other people 'pack good' but that I didn't. His accusation had no basis in fact.

Before they left with the second pod, the foreperson demanded that I give him a 5-star review. He bullied me, claiming that it was 'required' of me to give that because his 'boss required it'. I was intimidated and he was aggressively hostile. It was all I had left in me to keep my composure and resist his bullying. I stated that I certainly will not give any review until I see my belongings in pristine condition on the destination side.

One of the people who did loading on the NY side did not even speak English, nodded to me as I gave instructions as if he understood and was complying with my instructions, then proceeded to mishandle my belongings in exactly the ways I had instructed him NOT to do. The Austin side people who unloaded were no better. They spoke no English at all. I managed to communicate only because I speak limited Spanish. It was extremely problematic to get the unload done successfully. They also complained about time when only 1 hr and 20 minutes had passed, when their time commitment was 3 hours.

The company uses third-party vendors who they don't vet. The third-party vendors are questionable. The pod company charges high rates for their service. They avoid accountability by using vendors whom they blame for their failure to keep their promises. The pod company charged $8300 to load and transport 2 pods from Brooklyn to Austin. I consider that to be an out-of-scope number. The moving industry is not regulated and is rife with bad actors. It is a breeding ground for people to get ripped off, charged excessive rates for their belongings to be destroyed. I want a refund of what I paid this company.

Got a quote from Zippy Shell. Got another quote and decided to go with the 2nd quote. Tried to call and cancel our order with zippy. It took at least 8 calls and hours of on hold. We even used the leave your number and you won't lose your space in line call back system and no one ever called us back. At least 3 times we used that service. Finally after multiple calls we got someone at customer service and our order was cancelled. Shouldn't have to be this hard. My option they have serious issues and won't be even getting any quotes from them ever again.

I would strongly urge that you do not use Zippy Shell for moving and/or storage. Because of how they handle and load furniture and other belongings there will mostly likely be damage during loading, transit and unloading. They do have a claim process, but it is worthless. The process is set up to default towards denying claims unless you have definitive proof they caused the damage. If you do make the unfortunate decision to use this company, then you will want to video the entire process to be able to provide the level of proof they need to pay the claims for the damage they cause. I would give a lower than one star rating if it was possible.

If I could give zero stars, I would. At first, business with them wasn't so bad, they had the cheapest rates we could find. But don't let this fool you, the hidden fees are in what damage they do to your property and how if you need a second pod for moving, they jack up the price and don't explain it. I paid roughly 1900 for a 16-foot pod, and 1600 for an 8, tell me how that makes sense. We're only getting to the worst part.

The worst part of it? They destroyed my fencing and tore up my landscaping. Dear reader, you may think this could just be a complication of where I live, how my property is situated, or whatnot, it isn't. The first driver we got successfully dropped off the first pod with no issues. The second, however, caused immense damage to my property. The driver that tore up my property refused to talk to us, drove off as soon as they could, and took absolutely no blame for their terrible driving skills.

Okay, fine, that sucks, but what about compensation for what happened? Well, at first Zippy Shell acted like they were going to make good on fixing what they broke. They made us get numerous estimates on fixing the damage, which we did. Upon receiving the estimates, they decided they'd rather squirrel their way out of responsibility rather than pay for their mistakes. They then proceeded to trick us by making us admit there was another vehicle on the property (which apparently could have been the cause of trucker's terrible driving) but I have over seven acres of property and my vehicle was nowhere near where he was operating. Nonetheless, they used this excuse to weasel their way out of paying us for their mistakes.

So, you may wonder? What can you do in a situation like this? The answer is pretty simple. Nothing. If you've made it this far, here's some advice. Video record every interaction you have with ANY moving place. Be sure you don't have a vehicle ANYWHERE on your property, it doesn't matter if it's out of the way. And the best advice of all I can provide, DO NOT EVER PURCHASE ZIPPY SHELL'S SERVICES!

If you don’t want to read the lengthy review, just save time, but DON’T use ZIPPY or its sister company, 800-Packrat. When I requested a quote, I made it very clear that I might need access to the container to add items, but wouldn’t know for about three weeks. I even shared personal circumstances so they would understand, and I was assured this wouldn’t be an issue, the container would remain in my origin city until I confirmed I was done.

When the container arrived, it looked like a beat-up practice unit, covered in dents and holes that made me question whether it was even safe for long-distance transport. When the door was opened, there was a severely damaged wire cage inside, with wires sticking out everywhere, exactly the kind of thing that would scratch or damage belongings. The container itself was full of dirt, trash, and was wet from the rain, which is completely unacceptable for something meant to protect personal items.

Only at “cage” drop off did I learn that they planned to haul the container two hours south, unwrap and re-wrap everything at a separate facility, and then ship it 1,500 miles, something they never mentioned in the quoting process. In short, the process was misrepresented from the start, and I feel I was blatantly lied to just to get my contract.

This was a terrible moving experience, probably the worst I’ve had. They randomly charge you without much info on what you’re paying for. When I have called, it takes 45 minutes to an hour of people researching to answer my questions. One employee took my card info down wrong and now I’m sitting in my new place with none of my things for the next 10-12 business days (2 weeks). Way too expensive for the caliber of service offered. Go with PODS. My Zippy Shell container was dropped off and picked up on time, but it spent a week in a warehouse in LA instead of being shipped to DC immediately. I was told arrival would be between 24-26 and it’s being delivered “1 business day later” on a Monday. Threw off my hotel stay plans, work schedule and other logistics I had set up for my long distance move. When I called to speak to someone about the discrepancy- I was on hold a total of 45 minutes only to speak to someone who had no idea what was going on. I would pay the extra $200 PODS quoted me for the same service if I could do it again.

Be warned about Zippy Shell! I had a very disappointing experience with Zippy Shell. When I booked, the salesperson quoted me a flat fee of $3,000 and assured me there would be no hidden costs. In reality, I was charged $3,502.62 with extra fees for storage ($278.42) and gas ($224.20) that were never disclosed or agreed to. On top of that, I was promised delivery within 7–10 days. What I later found out is that this only meant delivery to Zippy Shell’s facility in the destination city, not to my actual new address. My container didn’t arrive at their facility until September 3, and then they refused to deliver to my home until September 8.

Customer service was dismissive and repeatedly hid behind “policy” instead of addressing the clear discrepancies. After researching, I found other customers reporting the same issues. I believe this reflects a pattern of deceptive business practices, and I cannot recommend Zippy Shell.

We used Zippy shell for a long distance move. They were affordable compared to others, during the initial phone call a lot of our questions were answered and things were moving along nicely. I told the gentleman I would like the container dropped off at our new place the first week in May. He said no problem. We waited until the beginning of the second week before we called and they said somewhere around the third week in May. I told the woman we agreed on the first. She said it doesn’t work like that for out of state moves and she would try to get it to us asap. It was one day earlier than what she said, it was twenty two days instead of twenty three.

The driver called and said he was on his way, when he arrived he had another container on a trailer and our container on the truck so he had to disconnect the trailer and he started to unload our container when I noticed it was backwards on the truck so the driver had to go to a nearby parking lot and turn the container the deliver it to me. At that point I noticed the side of the container had a dent that wasn’t there when I loaded it. Felt bad for the driver, but the communication with everyone involved was subpar at best.

I stayed on hold for nearly an hour, only for the call to hang up automatically without ever speaking to anyone. I’ve tried calling multiple times, and the same thing keeps happening—transferred, long wait, then disconnected. Meanwhile, I’m still out the money for a service that was never delivered. Zippy Shell may have been a cost effective alternative to PODs or United Van lines. They do not take great care of your belongings. First, they said they would deliver a container, but it was a cage in a container. They didn't explain that during our review. They also supplied two packers to pack the container for us. The packers just wanted to fill the cage with as much stuff as they could without thinking about damage it would cause. I took great care in packing my furniture with blankets and dunnage, While it sounded great, they didn't tie anything down to prevent furniture and such from moving around for the long haul.

Now I have damaged furniture with nicks and damage to our hutch, which now they say, "it was caused by the moving and normal shifting during delivery". Part of their shipping clause you don't see until they get your order. It's apparent the moving truck they use was not meant for long hauls. Next time I move it will not be with Zippy Shell. United Van Line uses a better long haul truck and take more care and without any damage for a longer haul.

I was told by the rep that I was receiving 2 movers as part of the price. She was not clear that I did not have to get that service and it would make the price cheaper.

Once the crate arrived at the location there was no way that all my belongs would fit in the mesh metal crate. I was very specific that I was moving 3 rooms. Impossible that it would ever work without it ruining my furniture. It was so disappointing as I flew from NJ to FL to pack up, When I called them to inform them that the gentlemen from the 3rd party company said my items would not fit. They said, "Ok we will cancel but still charge $640." This was outrageous. I write this review so others will be careful. It is heartbreaking that they are not the type of company that care for their customers. A great lack of truthfulness and customer service. I asked many questions and received false answers. If I could give this company no stars it would be appropriate. They partner with 1800 PACKRAT. My husband and I moved from WA to AZ. We spoke to Favrin ** who set us up with a Pod and asked about us needing help with the move. We agreed we did need help as we are no longer at an age that lifting and moving our own furniture is a good idea. Zippy offers assistance for two hours of move help at an additional cost and we were happy to be signed up. We signed up for the insurance coverage and paid our deposit. The day our trailer was loaded I showed the movers what to move and gave them a stack of blankets. We were only putting furniture in the pod (which turned out to be nothing but a steel cage). I thought this was odd that it was not an actual pod/trailer. I work from home so I went back to my office while the movers in less than two hours loaded up the furniture.

Two weeks later when we arrived in Arizona our Zippy Shell arrived and to our horror every single piece of furniture was damaged in one form or another. The third party movers did not use any of the moving blankets we provided. There were gouges and gashes on my dining set, by end tables, my bedroom dresser etc. Our bedset was ripped apart and hardware missing. I was in tears. The men who unloaded our trailer even commented they never saw such disregard for someone else's belongings.

Believing that we were at least covered since we purchased insurance, we filed a claim. Our Claim was denied. We were told the insurance did not cover the failure to properly load the trailer. Are you kidding me? We used their third party sub contractor. I thought this has to be a misunderstanding so we appealed the denial. Three weeks later our appeal was again denied. No one will return my messages or call me back to explain why they are not responsible for their subcontractor.

They are cowards. They sent both denial letters after the close of business and then will not return your calls or speak to you. I have submitted a claim to the BBB. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, After looking at their profile you cannot leave a review for them on their own website, Google or Facebook. Thank goodness for Yelp. I am only providing a few photos and hope I prevent someone else from ever having to go through this. We paid $4000 for this, the replacement value is $11,000. Don't let this happen to you.

I called them back because I had asked for 2. They then said I could have a 2nd container but I will have to load it or they charge 4000 more than what I was originally quoted. Then they botched the delivery of my first container. The customer service is terrible. No one knows what’s going on. Everyone says something different.

This company loaded my container, they threw my things inside damaging many things. I had insurance, they denied my claim as loaded incorrectly, I appealed it and then they denied as it was loaded correctly. I ordered the container for a Friday, it didn’t come. When I called they said their truck broke down, it would come on Saturday, it didn’t come Saturday. I called and their second truck broke down. Then on Sunday they sent the wrong container. DONT USE- THIS COMPANY OR RAT PACK.

We contracted with Zippy Shell/1800 Packrat for 4 containers to be loaded and moved From Texas to California- We were overcharged for $1,000 of additional labor loading 2 of the containers which they did not use (agreement was for 3 hours of labor per container). The form they submitted as documentation had blank areas for start time, stop time, quantity or customer initials. Also they wrapped the steel mesh containers in plastic. All items were filthy dirty as if they were left in a field. And the crew that unloaded the containers (another sub-contractor) complained that they were not really a moving company, they just delivered the good. They stopped repeatedly to call their boss to complain and they still got the job done in far less than 3 hours per container. Save yourself some grief and don't use this company.

I, the Customer of Zippy Shell, ordered Zippy Shell to deliver a small container to be self-loaded and delivered by Zippy Shell to the final destination. Zippy Shell was obligated, by contract, to weigh the full and empty containers in shipping. Upon arrival at the final destination, Zippy Shell promised a delivery on 21 July. This date changed without notice to 28 July (this was not ASAP as determined by the contract on page 1). Upon arrival, the Zippy Shell driver drove into the home electrical junction and cut power to our house for 4 days (see pictures of damage to electrical wires and burned box). The driver cutting power to the home resulted in approximately $400 of groceries being destroyed due to the power outage.

After the delivery, I contacted Zippy Shell, asking for a copy of my weigh tickets. Zippy Shell had on file that the weighing was supposed to take place. Still, due to a lack of planning, Zippy Shell did not weigh the empty or full container (see attachment identifying that Zippy Shell admitted that they did not consider the container). The weigh tickets are REQUIRED for me to be reimbursed by my employer. The documentation Zippy Shell provided with what they deemed as a possible estimate of my shipment weight was not suitable but also NOT the weight of my shipment.

I contacted Zippy Shell several times after 28 July to work on a solution for the issue of no-weigh tickets, loss of food, and trauma of 4 children under 6 years of age and 2 adults in the heat wave of August. Zippy Shell could not provide a suitable solution for the loss. Their answer was to reimburse for the weigh ticket portion only. I reiterated the requirement of weigh tickets and that the goods moved into my home must be repacked onto a new moving vehicle, driven, weighed, and then subsequently unloaded back into the house.

This requirement resulted in me having to rent a Uhaul ($202.74, see attached), drive 108 miles ($57.85 in gas, 2 hours in time. This is public data based on drop-off location and closest Certified CAT scale location), pay for weighing empty/full ($27.00) and six total additional hours of loading/unloading (required to take an entire day off of work to complete the above tasks, $72.00 per hour at a total of 8 hours). This total equates to $1,263.59 in losses. While admitting fault, Zippy Shell would not provide compensation for a new truck rental or any hired help to load and unload the house (a service that was ultimately not used). I have accepted no payment from Zippy Shell as they FAILED to uphold the second half of the contract.

Update (Feb 13, 2024): it has been 6 months and Zippy Shell has not resolved the situation. Zippy Shell says they spoke to their driver and he claims he hit nothing. Therefore they do not find themselves at fault and are not providing proper compensation. Pictures below show truck backing into the wires. Wires cut. Burn marks on the container. Zippy Shell will not honor claims nor provide customer service to veterans and their families when moving.

Zippy Shell does not even deserve half a star. We decided to go with them for our move from Wisconsin to Florida. First off, the containers are much smaller than advertised and realistically we had to get rid of stuff so we didn’t have to spend thousands for a third container. On top of that, both containers came outside the time window of when they were supposed to be delivered. These aren’t a huge deal and I could get past them, but getting our stuff has been nothing but a nightmare.

I called zippy shell TWO WEEKS before we were supposed to move into our new house- They claim they only need two day- and scheduled our move. I scheduled it for a weekend and got confirmation via text and email that it was scheduled and ready to go. Three days before we were supposed to get our stuff they changed the date to a Monday and did not even call us to see if we could do that date. When I called they said the movers were “closed on the weekend” which seems nothing short of suspicious. At this point we are still waiting on our stuff and are to the point of either contemplating calling the police for stolen property or getting a lawyer involved. NEVER work with zippy shell.

We used Zippy Shell when we were trying to move out of state. They can't keep their delivery dates and they do not communicate properly with their warehouse. We had the warehouse try to drop them off 3 times before the date they were actually supposed to be there. Then the day they were supposed to be there, they only dropped one instead of 2 and told us it would be another week before they could get the other one there. Keep in mind, you only get each container for 3 days. We had paid movers to load them. I had to search for and call the CEO to get our container delivered. The containers themselves are just wire cages, the ones you get from PODS are solid.

Another hit against Zippy. We set up delivery of the PODS last week. I have an email saying they won't charge for storage this month since they will be delivered before the renewal date. Guess what they charged me anyway. This company is unorganized and has no idea what they are doing with logistics, which is a major issue for a moving company. Stay far far away. Pay the little extra for PODS. You will be glad you did.

I had dealt with this company about three years ago, and they did a great job. I moved from PA to El Paso, TX. Two guys picked up my furniture and things, and filled the storage container. They did it. When I requested delivery in TX, two men again, delivered my things to my new apartment, and moved everything in for me, even to the second floor. As I said, a great experience.

So, moving for Florida, of course, I called Zippy Shell again. When the movers got there, I was told all of my things would not fit into the container, that I would need another. I panicked. Living on a fixed income, $3000 more was going to be a big jump, and what was I going to do??? But it was all for naught. There was room left in the container! Why he had to scare me like that, and not wait until the packing was done, was beyond me...

After tipping them handsomely, the movers told me I needed a lock for the container, so I went to the store. When I gave them the lock, they promptly told me that it was the proper lock, it was too small. My brother, who was helping me with my move, reminded me that there were two locks in my son's garage, right inside the door into the garage. Going back out to the garage, a minute or two later, the two locks were gone! We searched the area and could not find them. Now, only four of us were in that garage to move, and two of us did not take the locks. The movers, looking guilty as we questioned them about the locks, all of sudden, said they could CHAIN the container, and use my lock. Keep the keys, they said. They stole those locks!

Until that point, these guys had done a great job, moving furniture from the second floor, wrapping mirrors and small furniture. Again, until the missing locks, I was very pleased. I thought that when the company asked for a review, I would tell them about that situation. So far, I have not gotten that request. The move was to take ten days. About eight days into it, I was notified that my container had just left Texas. I was not happy. So, it was late getting here to Florida. When I called for delivery, nothing was discussed, except the delivery date, and time. As was with the move before, and with the move TO Florida, I assumed that two guys would show up and move everything in for me. However, to my surprise, a trailer showed up with ONE guy, and he is to drop off the container and I, a 66 year-old woman and her ailing, disabled brother, are to unload this ourselves!!!

I was shocked. I said, no, you are to do this. I called the office. The contract says, self-unload. Never assume, but I did. Of course, the MO for the previous contact was always TWO MEN, and THEY MOVE. But not this time. NO help was offered to me. The office did not offer me any assistance, and the driver didn't offer a solution to me, a senior citizen. I was livid. The office told me that the contract I had signed said self-unload. Nothing like that was explained to cited for me, and, as it was their MO in the other moves, I assumed they would be doing the unloading. (There was an email, with a website address, to get paperwork.

However, when I tried to do that, it came up that the papers were filed away and unavailable. I also never received a receipt that they picked up, and never signed anything. The movers said the office would send me a receipt via email, which I never received.) So, he dropped it off, and two friends came over, and we unloaded things ourselves, slowly, the FL heat. This was totally unacceptable.

The problems: I was billed more money on the second of two billings, because, they said, the price of gas went up. I was unaware of such thing. But it did conveniently take away the discount I received when I made the reservation. I was then billed for a storage container??? I have no idea why. I emailed them, and got no reply. The container was NOT locked. So, the two 'movers' who stole the locks, did not even secure my container, as they said they would, with a chain and the lock that I legitimately gave them! It was opened right up. My holding the keys to the lock, well, I guess that was just for show.

I had two boxes that were 'eaten' through. Gross! I had packed a bag of dog food that was delivered a few days before we moved. The bag was still in the box it came in. A nice hole on the side from some sort of animal was evident, as was another hole in a box of toiletry items. That box looked like it was dropped and the seam split. So that was a bit tricky for us to take out of the container. Droppings were noticed on my couch and chair. That was disgusting. A hole is in my couch. It was not there before; it is at the top of the couch. Enough to see the stuffing of the couch is showing. Not happy with that, either.

I cannot describe the anger, the disappointment, the anxiety, the upset that I felt yesterday when the whole move came to a head. It was a nightmare from the start, when I was almost frightened into spending another $3000, to being overcharged for gasoline, charged another $50, had locks stolen from our garage, finding an unsecured container, and the topper, finding out that we had to unload my things. DO NOT use this company. The last move showed me that even if a company is cheaper, you will pay for that in the end.

I felt it wasn’t economical for me to pay thousands of dollars for the overflow and Zippy Shell scheduled for us to come pick up our items. We had driven more than 2 hours and got sticker in traffic and I decided to call their customer service to alert them that I was on my way as scheduled before they told me that I wasn’t on their schedule to pick up and their warehouse wasn’t open that day. I was upset because I had the email confirmation. It took the acts of God to get my items that day.

Now to the delivery, we have items missing, furniture parts missing, scrapes on furniture. The customer service was deplorable because they don’t have answers for anything. Will NEVER use this company nor Packrat because they are sister company. I will not recommend Zippy Shell if you want to keep your sanity. This company totally misrepresents, mislead and swindle customers for additional moving cost that they intentionally created. Firstly they advertise their containers as 16x7x7. The containers are actually 15x6.5x6.5. This basically robs you of over 150 cubic feet. They also claim that the container can hold 2-3 Bedroom. This is a total LIE since our small NJ condo was a 2-bedroom. They roughly packed the items in 1 of their Shell in a large truck, leaving 1/2 the items behind. Then they forced you to purchase another container for the remaining items and a much higher price than the original. Your hands are completely tied at this point since it's your planned moving day.

I called and order the second crappy unit, they charged my credit card immediately and promised to deliver same day. They never did! After calling the company about 8 times all I received were promises. When they realized that they made an error, they tried to cover by telling me that it takes 24 hours. My wife had to cancel her flight, we cancelled move-out cleaning. All these were additional costs. Again, I called the company several times for compensation and given the same scripted response of no refund. After calling again and asked to speak with one of the top managers Josh, he offered me $75. This after total cost exceeding $6,000+. Please DO NOT put yourself through this ordeal!!! I did not do my homework and read the bad reviews about this company. I am planning to take my case to the next level, as they are a total scam and should be investigated.

Meticulously weighing every item that was again packed into the crate I arrived at 4965lbs, that is well under their max load weight of 5500lbs. Please DO NOT use this company; if I could give negative stars I would. On Monday 6/6/2022 less than 5 days before my scheduled move, I received a phone call from Zippy Shell/Pack Rat stating that they were overbooked and would not be able to meet their promised obligations per the agreement. Their representative offered to schedule it almost a month later- which clearly wouldn't work for me and wasn't part of the signed agreement. I was devastated by the cancellation and overall lack of concern or care displayed by Zippy Shell /Pack Rat this caused a panic attack. I couldn't find a mover that would accommodate my move for the coming Saturday!

The next day logistics worked out and they were able to schedule my move. They charged me more than what was agreed upon. I had to call multiple times to try to get an update on the charges and where my belongings were because their communication is nonexistent. Zippy Shell/Pack Rat could not tell me where my shell was at or when they could expect it. This is certainly not comforting and a bad way to conduct business. I was told there was nothing they would do about the the additional charges - again awful customer service- why not be upfront and transparent about your fees?

6/23/22 I got an email that my shell made it to the storage destination - The very last day. I call and get a message that they are closed. I called the next day to get my move scheduled. I give them 3 different options (3 different days- try telling your work you must take off, but you don't know when). I get a very vague email that my move is scheduled for 6/29/22. I call to try to get details and they are unable to provide me anything. Another charge hit my account days before they even deliver my belongings. Then again, the evening before my move I get a call stating that something has happened, and they are unable to move me as agreed upon. They would have to unload my belongings from the Zippy Shell/Pack Rat at the storage facility and then loosely load my stuff onto a truck then drive that truck to my home and then unload it again. I explained that is very unprofessional and increases the chances for loss or damages.

I was very upset and requested that I be present when the unloading at the Zippy Shell facility was happening so I can ensure things wouldn’t get broken or lost. I explained as well that this would cause the move to take longer and that I didn't want to be charged for any additional time! He promised me that I wouldn't be charged and that I could do that and that it wouldn't be a problem.

I was also explicitly stated that Zippy Shell/ Pack Rat did not have authorization to charge my account anymore. I was told that the movers and the facility would call me and that they would not open the storage unit until I got there. I am in the area by 7:30 waiting for the call. I waited until 9:30 a.m., still no call so I showed up at the facility in Buford, GA- Charlie was rude and inconsiderate - he claimed to not have any notes about me wanting to be there. He cuts me off when I am explaining the situation and is overall unprofessional towards me. I find out that the movers have already started without my consent. The storage wasn't locked by Zippy Shell/Pack Rat as stated and was left open since 6/11/22!

The movers were ill prepared to move- the truck was too small, and they didn't have a dolly to move my stuff. It took the movers 6.5 hours to move a small one bedroom. The move damaged a vintage bike, and hybrid bike, broke a 20-year-old antique Disney Snow globe, stained my brand new couch, and almost every piece of furniture was damaged. I filed an insurance claimed, they denied it after 6 months of investigating. Which I wasn't once contacted for a statements as most reliable and ethical companies would do. Please save yourself the trouble.... Zippy Shell/Pack Rat is the worst. They are unethical, unprofessional and fail to communicate.
