MovingYourself is a long-distance moving service where you load and unload your belongings yourself. It provides the truck and driver, but you handle packing, loading and unloading.

You can request a quote online or over the phone. If you decide to book, MovingYourself reserves a dedicated truck for your shipment and delivers it to your pickup location. You have up to three days to load your belongings. MovingYourself then transports the truck to your destination, where you have up to three days to unload.

MovingYourself uses movable walls to divide truck space, so you can reserve only the space you need. After you load your belongings, a bulkhead wall will be added to separate your shipment from any boxed or crated freight added to the truck.

MovingYourself only handles interstate moves within the continental U.S., excluding New York City. It doesn’t offer packing or loading help, and it doesn’t handle local moves or moves within the same state.

Average shipping times

MovingYourself’s main service is interstate household moving, with customers loading and unloading their own belongings. The company also provides some equipment for loading and unloading, though you still handle the physical labor yourself.

MovingYourself lets customers reserve only the truck space they need, from smaller compartments to a full truck. If you don’t use the full truck, the company may add boxed or crated freight behind a bulkhead wall, but your household shipment stays separate during transit.

MovingYourself can also arrange vehicle shipping for cars, motorcycles and dirt bikes. Vehicles are shipped separately on an auto transporter, and the driver loads, unloads and secures the vehicle.

For military moves, MovingYourself supports personally procured moves (PPMs), formerly known as DITY moves. It can provide empty and full weight tickets for government reimbursement, usually for a fee of about $150.

MovingYourself doesn’t list standard rates for interstate moves. The quote you receive will depend on your route and how much truck space your shipment uses. Unlike many traditional movers, MovingYourself charges based on space, not shipment weight.

Quotes include the truck and driver, fuel, delivery, tolls and taxes. Because you load and unload the truck yourself, MovingYourself may cost less than a full-service moving company, but you’ll need to budget separately for packing supplies or any labor you hire.

MovingYourself offers a few alternatives if you don’t need the full three-day loading or unloading window:

• Live load: For $150 per hour, you load the truck while the driver waits. This may work for small moves or apartments.
• Same-day drop-off and pickup: The driver drops off the truck in the morning and picks it up that evening for a one-time fee of $225. You’ll need space to park a 28-foot truck.
• Terminal load: If you don’t have space for a truck at your home, you can bring your shipment to a MovingYourself terminal and load it there. You have the full day to load, and this option may reduce your delivery fee by up to $75.
• Extra loading or unloading time: If you need more than three days, you may be able to add time for around $100 per day.
• Temporary storage: Depending on availability, you may be able to store your loaded truck with MovingYourself for up to two weeks for around $40 per day.

MovingYourself’s carriers provide $10,000 in coverage with every move, but this coverage applies only to catastrophic losses, such as fire, collision or vehicle overturn. Coverage is limited to 10 cents per pound, so it may not cover the full value of your belongings.

MovingYourself may offer extra coverage through a partner insurance provider in some areas. Tbarhis coverage also applies only to major events like fire, collision or vehicle overturn, not cosmetic damage like scratches or dents. The first $15,000 of replacement coverage costs $149, with additional coverage available for $9 per $1,000.

If MovingYourself arranges vehicle shipping for your move, coverage for the vehicle is provided by the auto transporter, not MovingYourself.

MovingYourself doesn’t transport shipments directly. Instead, it arranges moves through a network of motor carriers. The carriers that transport household goods are licensed and insured, and MovingYourself provides standard catastrophic-loss coverage with each move.
