Reservation cancelled with less than 24 hours of notice. Customer service is unhelpful and unsympathetic. When you're moving, do yourself a favour and book with U-haul who can actually manage to honour their reservations.

Horrible- reservation in 5/28 for cargo van pickup on 5/12 at Hickory location. Seemed odd no vans in lot as I arrived. Went in and desk agent had no clue about a van rental. Stated I had email confirmation and multiple emails, the latest on the morning of 6/12! Agent stated that they do not even see the reservation! WTH. Agent calls manager and hands me the phone number- manager states that I am not guaranteed the vehicle I reserve and can take the 16’ truck. Will not work for the job I need. What a joke. Guess that’s why it’s called BUDGET!

Horrible, do not use!! I had my cargo van confirmed with multiple confirmations unitl 4 pm on Thurs. for a Friday morning pick-up I am told that they don't have my vehicle and to call customer service. I spoke to a customer service rep and Lucy, a Level 2 Supervisor, for an hour and all they would do was follow the standard process of putting in a request to inventory despite the urgency of needing the truck as reserved the next morning. As it was the end of the day I asked if they don't get back to me on the evening as I am moving out the next morning what to do and the Supervisor said to call customer service back. So I waited and called back, got passed around to 3 different people, hung up on while I was on hold, and had to wait another 30 min. to just get through to just cancel.
As it was less than 48 hours I couldn't cancel my reservation without a fee even though it wasn't my problem that they didn't have the truck I reserved. Do not use Budget Truck Rental!! I wasted hours and stress unnecessarily when I needed to be packing!! Save yourself time and energy. Also note, on confirming my reservation online I had to sign their agreement terms which I was uncomfortable doing as it says I have inspected the truck ... how can I inspect a truck I haven't seem?? Penske you can reserve and not have cancelation fees.... and kinder customer service people.

My experience with Budget Truck Rentals was very warming and extremely helpful. My original reservation was with U-Haul but when I arrived to the U-Haul site, the truck wasn't available, although the reservation was made. Being familiar with Budget, I headed to the nearest location and ended up at 9232 West Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas Nevada, 89117. I explained the inconvenient mishap that occurred with U-Haul and Budget went above and beyond to make my day that much better.
I was assisted by manager **. She offered me a large-size truck perfect for transporting the amount of boxes I had in one trip, AND she offered me this vehicle at half the price with unlimited mileage. Although she did not have to, she definitely earned a returning customer in me just by being kind and empathetic. I truly hope this review reaches her and supervisors above her. May she be praised for being an asset to Budget Truck Rentals and an example to her peers. Thank you **.

5/6/25 Terrible Experience with Budget Truck Rental – They should not be in business by the poor rental experience I had (no choice) to endure. Summary… Drive 700 miles (approx. 13 hours total) from Rock Hill, SC to Bonita Springs, FL in 85+ degrees heat with a Budget Moving Truck with NO A/C and zero NO resolution from Budget Truck Rental. Truck Pickup – 12pm EST at Buck’s Refrigeration in Rock Hill, SC on Mon April 21st. Truck Return – 1030am EST at Bonita Beach Storage in Bonita Springs, FL on Thurs April 24th.
• Truck was not tested or inspected from the previous drop-off when we picked it up from Bucks’ Refrigeration in Rock Hill, SC. • The truck had a dash light on about checking the gas cap. I went inside to inform the person working who rudely said that the previous people did not have any issues with the truck. • By 2pm I turned on the A/C in the truck but it only blew hot air and continued to blow hot air. I called Budget’s Roadside Assistance and explained I had no AC, and it was approx. 5pm when someone finally arrived at my house to look at it (took me so long to deal with the phone drama from Budget). • Meanwhile, I can’t pack the truck as at this point I don’t want to pack the truck just to unpack and repack if Budget swaps out moving truck with a new/replaced truck.
• When the Roadside assistance arrived, the individual had to ask me where an auto shop was to buy some cans of freon; why did the person not have freon on the truck when the issue with the Budget truck was that it had no AC; poor service not coming prepared! • Once the technician returned to my house about 45 mins later he added the freon and then it was discovered that this was not the problem as it was still blowing hot air. Budget obviously could not have it fixed before I needed to leave in the very dark early morning. But Budget was also not going to be able to swap me out a truck before I needed to leave. So, no fixing and no new truck, Budget left me to dry.
• I had no options left as by now it was almost 7pm and I had hours of truck-packing to still do so I could spend 13 hrs driving to FL on Tuesday, so I arrive on time for my house closing early Wed morning. • I had to give up on this issue for the meantime as I needed to prepare for packing and moving so it was a few days later, once I started contacting customer service to explain the issues and request a significant refund since I was given a broken truck that was not inspected and received garbage service throughout the rental process.
• A records review of the phone calls I made will show I called numerous times and was beyond angry. I was lied to and told a supervisor would call me within 48 hours – no call. So, I called back and was told the request for a supervisor call was never put in, so this person now did it. After still no return calls from Budget rectifying the situation, I had to call back again and was told that a supervisor would only be able to provide me with the same type of absurd 20% or 25% discount back on my rental. The rental was a little over $600 so the refund they wanted to offer me was ridiculous and offensive. I then asked Budget to connect me with the CEO because obviously the terrible customer service folks would not escalate or help.
• Budget Truck Rental does not care about the health and safety of the people renting their trucks by offering a small discount. I find Budget Truck Rental to a negligent, greedy company putting money before customers! When I dropped the truck off after use, I had a discussion with the Lady that handled the Budget Truck return. She told me that because that truck had no AC, she had to use it “in town” vs long-distance. She also indicated that many places sadly do not inspect the Trucks before they go out for use.
I do expect to have someone with authority at Budget Truck Rental contact me to discuss this matter as the ph# listed on the paperwork for customer service refused to help. This entire rental was a nightmare and rectifying the matter with a 20% discount was really poor taste, as if my health and safety is only worth 20%.

Horrible experience. Made a reservation for moving truck. Went to pick up and after MORNING of the move (after waiting on an employee for 15 minutes) was told "corporate did not send truck to location".... Luckily, U-Haul was across the street and was able to recovery from that mistake pretty quickly. Fast forward, I now have a $150.00 charge I have been trying unsuccessfully to get them to resolve. Contacted my bank to resolve this issue. My experience with Budget has been an absolute NIGHTMARE. Will never even consider using this company again.

I booked a Budget rental truck through USAA perks, expecting better service and accountability, but I was seriously let down. As advised by Budget rental truck customer services, I paid for an extra day just in case, but I ended up returning the truck a full 24 hours early. Despite not using the truck for that extra day, Budget refused to reimburse me.
It’s frustrating that they wouldn’t make an exception or even offer a credit, especially when the reservation was made through a reputable partner like USAA. I paid for time I didn’t use, and they pocketed the money with zero regard for fairness or customer satisfaction. I won’t be renting from Budget again, and I’ll be advising fellow USAA members to consider other options.

Will never utilize this service for truck rental. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. HEADACHE. WASTE OF TIME! Had so many issues. I probably wasted 6 hours of my life talking to incompetent people on the phone. Customer service and response to issues is terrible, and people have no idea what they are talking about. They can't even make sense of their own receipts/invoices. The people actually in the store for check in/drop off are also incompetent and seem like they'd rather be dead than work at Budget. Yikes. Warning. Caution. Stay away.

Rented a truck that turns out had a leaky roof which after they sent someone out to correct leaked more not to mention the, several other issues that popped up as my husband was driving. I was uncomfortable with him driving it more than he had to so called for a tow to come get. Budget charged 2 extra days despite the tow company picking it up on time. The 1800 is useless and very rude. you are far better off paying a bit more and going with UHAUL or someone else as Budget doesn't even try to make the situation right.

- "Reservation does not guarantee availability." Several employees said this exact nonsense phrase, suggesting it's a company policy.
- "This happens frequently." The attendant actually told me that.
No attempt was made by the company to alert me ahead of time, although they sent me many email advertising their insurance. Considering the amount of damage this causes, Budget really needs to go out of business.

EZ Rental Depot INC. EZ Rental Depot INC., Carrollton, Tx. Budget truck rental horror show. The middle aged white guy who works in the office is a nut case, potentially dangerous. He was hostile the second we walked in (we are two women in our 50s). And his incredibly rude hard sell to upsell me on insurance that I didn't need was unbelievable. I told him I don't want/need anymore insurance (I already paid Budget $400 for insurance) and he snapped and said if I didn't cooperate he would cancel my reservation. I again said no. Then told me to get out, that my reservation was cancelled, that "it's [his] store and [he] can refuse service to anyone for any reason".
I refused to leave the store, being that my movers were scheduled to arrive in 30 minutes. So he told me he was going to call the police (I told him to do it). Instead he stood behind me, rambling more nonsense and hostility loudly, while I tried to get Budget on the phone to help me. After 30 minutes and a call or two from Budget, and the calm negotiation by my friend, he let us rent the truck. This guy is unstable and potentially dangerous. Heaven forbid a customer as unstable as him goes into the store, as violence my erupt. I would avoid at all costs if I were you.

Employees are not helpful and rude, and lie just like the company, the trucks drive like crap, horrible company. Do not rent from them. We could of drove our car the 100 miles back and forth 10x to get all our stuff out of storage and it would of still been cheaper than this place. I made a reservation for a moving truck Sun Feb 23rd, 2025 at 7:00am for a 10am pick up for the same day. Their website and mobile app would not let me select a return date for Mon Feb 24th, 2025. I called online customer support and they could not help me correct the reservation. They said I had to call the local office and they have me their phone number. The number online support gave me was not a valid number and the phone number would not go through. I called online support Sunday several times on the day of the rental to figure out a way to contact the local business to confirm they were open and to confirm they had the truck size I reserved and to correct the drop off date. No one could help me!
When I called the online customer support number they did not have any other phone number for the local business and they had no way to reach them on my behalf. My reservation was for 10am so I went to the local rental business location to straighten the reservation out. When I arrived at 10am to pick up the rental truck no one was there. The business hours on the doors and their phone number on the doors did not match what was on the Budget Rental website nor did it match what online support gave me. The business looked abandoned so waited at the business while I tried to find another budget location that was open but by then nothing was available and every location was closed for the day or had no rental trucks in the size I needed.
I expected a call back Monday with a formal apology for their error but I did not receive that call. To top it off they charged my credit card on file for a no show $150. I contacted customer care for a refund and I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau and filed a fraud claim with my bank. THEY WILL BE RECEIVING A 1 STAR RATING ON ALL ONLINE PLATFORMS WITH A COPY OF THE DETAILS HERE. Horrendous service.

"Not good" does not begin to describe our experience and one star is more generous than I would like to be. Our situation has eerie parallels to the other two on this site. We reserved our truck (cargo van in this case) two days prior to needing it. We were supposed to drive two and a half hours to pick up the vehicle near Des Moines and then I would drive it back to Omaha while my wife drove our Jeep back.
When we arrived, confirmation number in hand we were told that there were NO cargo vans or small box trucks in Des Moines because they had all been leased to Amazon for the months of November and December. No one had any idea why the booking computer hadn't known that, nor could they tell us why we were not informed before we made the run. The desk clerk's best idea was "look for a competing company." No luck. We put what small boxes we could into the Jeep and drove back home, after which I called the customer service number and were not helped at all, just a few platitudes and some simpering about valuing our business. My suggestion: If you absolutely HAVE to use Budget Trucks, be sure to call the morning of your trip to see if they actually have something to rent.
Receipt has the following....clearly they don't care if they can meet you needs or not.
"Terms & Conditions
A reservation is not a contract. Reservation only guarantees the rate quoted and shows a customer’s preferences for a pickup location, dropoff location, time of rental, date of rental and equipment type.

After unloading the truck my son in law drove the truck to return it for me. Only cause I ended up with an ear infection from that wind coming from the window. A head cold and hard to breathe from the exhaust my dog is not feeling good either. Called customer service a couple days later. They are trying to give me 15% which is about $55. They said they had a 26' truck but it was 2 hours away from my location. I accepted the deal. Today November 20th they called again and said they don't have a truck available. In desperation, I rented a truck (which I didn't want because of height restrictions on my route) but soon found out that the transmission was going with periodic very hard clunks and gear slippage. That is only because I went in yesterday to confirm it would be ready and the desk clerk said there were no trucks. He did not know what they would do, but he would call me back by the end of the day. That did not happen. This is for a whole house move and I have several helpers scheduled plus appointments where I am going. After talking to several Budget employees, I was left high and dry with no truck. Rented a 16' Budget Truck to move my daughter across the country to Colorado from North Carolina. At checkout, I examined tires, asked about road worthiness (it was an older vehicle), and was reassured the service had just been completed. Was reassured I could use key drop in Colorado drop location for Sunday drop off, 3 days away.
Day 1: Load truck, buy a lock, park at the hotel for next day's big drive. Great so far. Day 2: Start early, cool air, and head to Kentucky. Great until afternoon when we became aware that the air conditioning was not cooling in the high humidity/heat - so we rolled down windows and sweat out our shirts. Pulling into our hotel that evening, we noted that the headlights seemed off/dim. Pulled into hotel. Confirmed that the left head lamp was maladjusted, and that high beams would be required for proper visibility. Not really safe at night on unfamiliar highways with lots of road-work lane boundaries and uneven pavement. Not really conscientious of oncoming drivers either. Day 3: Ran into rain outside of St. Louis headed toward Kansas, and the cab was periodically leaking water. Bummer.
Day 4: Drove the rest of the way to CO in insufficient AC, occasional wetness in cab from leaking rain, and annoyingly low head lighting. Delays in travel were not a desirable event, and as the truck was still drivable... kept going. Arrived at destination to find no key drop, and my arranged transportation back home (1 hour away) was not needed. Drove home in more rain, to have the right windshield wiper break, only to drive back the following day to return. My worst rental experience ever - never again will I use Budget. Poor customer service, poor response to my complaints, and improper safety of vehicles. Sure, we have things break, but this was beyond reconning outside of poor maintenance and management. I cannot recommend.

After calling the corporate office and being told they would get back to me within 1-2 hours, I never received any follow-up. Furthermore, their customer service was abysmal. Instead of addressing the issue, they spent at least 10 minutes trying to aggressively sell me additional insurance, which felt more like coercion than assistance. To make matters worse, they charged my credit card $150 without mentioning it beforehand.
When I called to inquire about the charge, they claimed his system (not the company) was down and couldn't process refunds. His manager won't answer my phone call. I reserved a 12 ft moving truck through Budget Truck Rental, online, for 11/10/23. I was given a confirmation # of **. U-Haul has the truck rental business pretty well locked up in Muncie Indiana where I live, so I tried to help out the little business, even though the pick up point was a 40 minute drive away. On 11/10 I called the business where I was told to pick up the truck about 3 hours early to ensure all was in order before I made the 40 minute drive. The business was "Checkered Flag Inc." at 1010 E 53rd st in Anderson IN. The man who answered the phone said he had no truck for me. He said Budget had come and collected all of his trucks for a big customer and he had absolutely nothing. I called Budget customer service, told them the story and they said they would find me a truck and call me back.
They called back in 30 minutes and said the closest truck was in Indianapolis which is a 1 1/2 hour drive from Muncie. They didn't really apologize. Just recommended I try U-Haul since they were closer. I called a U-Haul store 1.5 miles from my house, and had a truck in less than 2 hours. It was a bigger truck (15 ft) and cost less. No one at Budget or the Checkered Flag business was willing to take any responsibility for issuing me a Confirmation # then not being able to provide me a truck. It seemed to me that Budget Truck Rental was run by a bunch of irresponsible teenagers who didn't know how or care about treating customers responsibly. I will never attempt to do business with them again. Randall

No rating - this was an absolute awful truck rental. I drove from NJ to CA. The guy at Budget in Wilmington, DE never did a truck inspection. When I mentioned the tire pressure light was on, he said he just filled them. Also, no handtruck at their location - had to drive an extra 30 minutes for it. When I got home, it needed oil, coolant and the tire pressure light was flashing (all tires should have been at 80 PSI - they were below 50PSI..). For 2 days it sounded like a jackhammer above our heads.
The rubber flap around the windshield was off and pounding the top of the truck. When we called Budget, the rep. thought we were at a construction site. Every time we stopped we had to push it back in. The 3rd night, we parked at a motel (backed into a spot) and the shifter went like a broken arm, you couldn't put the truck in park. Had to use the emergency brake. As the truck was packed, I told roadside asst. immediately that if the truck couldn't be fixed, we needed it towed out to offload onto another truck.
2 days later, the new truck came, but no tow and no orders to take the old truck back. Also, the new truck's engine light was on. Thankfully the guy who brought the new truck was kind enough to check the fluids hoping the light would go off, after transmission fluid and coolant were added, the light stayed on. Very unsettling as we had 7 hours more to drive through high elevation and very few rest stops. Didn't use the air and went very slow as to not push the engine. Had a death grip on the steering wheel as it was loose.
Roadside assistance was the biggest joke - you have to do their job for them. They didn't listen to me when I mentioned we needed a tow in order to offload our things. It took over 32 phone calls back and forth (many times I was on hold more than 30 minutes) for there to be any resolution. This was especially unsettling as we had to still move out of an existing home and move into a new home with movers scheduled at the new home in less than 20 hours. We got there with just 12 hours to move out, sleep and move into the new place. Roadside assistance did not care - they are in NC and are behind a desk. I will never use Budget again - they are not professional and roadside assistance was an absolute joke. I wish I could upload the videos...

It’s not often I pen a blistering review for a company, but Budget Truck Rental has indeed outdone themselves. If one was to design a masterclass in how NOT to conduct a business, Budget would surely take the top prize. From the outset, their art of deception takes center stage. They lure you in with alluring online quotes, only to double the price when you're about to seal the deal. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The real pièce de résistance is their fraudulent claim of their trucks being "commercial vehicles." This assertion is not only ludicrously false under NM statute but is also blatantly exposed by the simple fact that you don't need a commercial driver's license to rent one of their vehicles. So why this fabricated claim? To force you into purchasing their damage waiver. A brazen attempt at gouging unsuspecting customers.
Think you've caught on to their scam and want out? Think again. The escape isn’t smooth sailing either. They have a charming little $50 fee in place for cancellations. Because why let someone leave without one last parting gift? If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, steer clear of this quagmire. Don’t be seduced by the initial attractive rates they dangle in front of you – because the true cost is hidden in deceptive practices and added fees. For those looking to rent a truck without the accompanying migraine, U-Haul is a tried and true alternative. In the vast landscape of truck rental options, do yourself a favor: bypass Budget. Your wallet and sanity will thank you.

I picked up the truck in Queens, NY. The price quotes on the confirmation email was $1721.95. The Budget employee charged me $2072.70. He didn't explain the price difference. The truck was old and filthy. After loading the truck and driving for about forty minutes the AC failed. I called customer service and was given an appointment the next day to get it fixed. The trip to the repair shop and the "repair " took until late afternoon. Less than twenty-four hours later the AC failed again. Contacting customer service took hours. The next morning a repair shop began repairs. A part was needed and the AC was fixed around midafternoon. The check engine light was on. The mechanics were troubleshooting the problem for more than an hour.
Finally Budget informed me that another truck would be provided. The replacement truck wasn't available until noon and then the items in the first truck needed to be moved to the replacement truck. It was late afternoon before the trip was resumed. In both repair shops there were no facilities for the customers to wait comfortably and the heat index was in the triple digits.
The replacement truck was clean and ran without any problems. After unloading it on Sunday I called Budget about dropping it off. I was told the drop off place was open. When I arrived at the drop-off place it was closed and only physical drop off was allowed. This necessitated an unplanned overnight stay since I was almost two hundred miles from home. Finally I received an email several days after dropping off the truck that I was being billed $57 to refuel the truck that was towed from the repair shop in Tennessee.

I arrived at the new location in Des Moines at 4:55, 5 minutes prior to my pick-up time. Upon arrival, no one was there to help me. I tried calling their location's number and Budget Trucks' main help number, and I received no answer for 15 minutes. Once I was finally able to get on the phone with someone, they informed me that I would not be able to get a moving truck for a couple of hours and that I would have to drive to an even further location (that would still count against my mileage). I was forced to find another moving truck (which was basically impossible) for the next day. All in all, we canceled the reservation, but I would never go to this place again.

Rented a Budget 16-foot truck. Check engine light was on when I picked it up. Representative said the catalytic converter was recently changed and the check engine light was on but the truck was fine. I loaded the truck proceeded by my first destination, unloaded, and started on my way to 2nd destination when all dashboard lights came on (oil, battery, etc.), engine cut out and there was no use of steering brakes, etc. Turned truck off, turned back on, proceeded to drive and happened again about 1/2 mile down the road. I pulled over, called roadside assistance via Budget, waiting three hours for a mechanic who determined that the issue was due to an off market catalytic converter that was installed. He also said the loud noise was a leaking exhaust despite the fact the truck said "quiet cab" on the door. It was 7 pm and we were far from home so we found a place to stay and called at 8 am next morning.
The tow truck did not show up until 1 pm, then towed the truck with belongings to our second destination. We unloaded the truck and Budget said to call roadside assistance for the second tow, waited two hours and tow company called to say they didn't want to tow because it was raining, and he would pick it up in the morning. So I had my husband who picked us up and drove us home. Over 32 hours delay and budget will not fully reimburse for the hassle. What a mess and loss time at work. All because they cheaped out with an off market catalytic converter.

Picked up Truck and Dolly on the 1st of July. Once on the road, specifically the freeway we noticed excessive cab noise. Sounded like warm air flowing into cab and only increased with the speed of the truck. Although I recall specifically written on door “Quiet Cab" After pulling over, we tracked the excessive noise to a damaged, cracked and bent front cab corner where the passenger could clearly look over their right shoulder behind their seat and clearly see the road surface below while driving. Approximate 1 inch wide tear in sheet metal about 9 inches long.
We also noted excessive front end shake no matter what speed the truck was driven at and visually inspected the front tires only to find that the Camber was clearly out on the vehicle and both front wheels visually leaned further out then the bottoms and both front tires were also badly cupped on inside of tread. Pulled into Fort Stock Texas Chevron Pump #6 around 15:30PM and vehicle would no longer go into any forward gears. Only Park and Reverse.
Contacted Road Side Assistance and was told a mechanic would be dispatched right away. I let the Chevron Manager know that truck was disabled and could not be moved. Couple of hours later after no update from Budget Road Side Assistance I was finally able to confirm that mechanic would arrive around 21:00PM. Once mechanic showed up, he confirmed that shifter cable housing had melted against the exhaust and caused the cable housing to fall apart. Road Side Mechanic then said he was going back into town to try and locate the correct cable to repair the vehicle onsite. He later called back around 22:00PM to tell me that the part was not available but that Budget would contact me shortly to resolve.
NO call/text from Budget. So once I was able to get through the roadside assistance automated phone system again and speak with someone, was told that they were looking to get a replacement truck from Midland and/or possibly Austin to unload my broken truck onto another truck. Still no update so AGAIN, after calling Budget back was told a Tow Truck would be on the way.
Around 12:30AM, Tow truck shows up only to tell me that it looks like his Tow Truck is too small for the broken truck. I was actually told that "I picked a bad time to break down" are you kidding me? Keep in mind we have been sitting on the tailgate of the Budget Rental truck since 15:30 in 100+ deg heat for almost 9 hours. I called Budget and told them they needed to get the truck out of the Chevron Gas Station and over to the Sleep Inn Hotel down the street and quickly sent my son over to reserve a room as we had no choice but to spend the evening and figure out what to do.
We ended up unloading my son’s car from Car Doll after using a jack to stabilize the dolly and the Tow Truck driver was able to tow the dolly down the street to the Hotel. I then had not choice but to put the truck in reverse and back it down the center median of the main road in Fort Stockton with my son spotting me to move it from Chevron to Sleep Inn parking lot. Keep in mind that Chevron was also not able to sell gas at the pump that I was broken down up until this time.
I apologized to Hotel that I had no choice but to park the Budget Truck in the front parking lot as we could not risk backing it any farther to back of Hotel. Last thing I wanted was to cause damage to anyone cars unnecessarily. No restaurants available on a Sunday Night at 01:45AM so meal consisted of Mac and Cheese. Woke up at 07:30 expecting an email/text and even a missed call from Budget but NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING. Completely unprofessional customer service.
As a reminder, at no time during this situation did Budget Truck rental reach out to me. Each time I contacted them I was given no choice but to go through the automated phone service, waiting in excess of an hour at times to speak to a person. Contacted Roadside Service and was told agai... that Budget was looking for a truck and crew to send to Fort Stockton to unload and load the new truck but that they had no ETA since it was being driven to Fort Stockton from Midland TX and/or Austin TX...
I explained that this was NOT what was told to me last night. I was told that a Tow Truck would be dispatched in the morning after checking into hotel. Around 11:00AM we had to check out of the room and at that point, I contacted Budget and informed them that they could get the keys to the truck at the front desk of the hotel to resolve the issue and that my son and I had no other choice but to leave the truck behind and continue to Austin using my sons Fiat 500 as we needed to be in Austin before 18:00PM on the 3rd of July to secure the keys to my son apartment. If not, no one would be available until the 5th.
While driving my son's personal car to Austin, I was contacted around 16:00PM from the tow truck driver that the truck was just now loaded onto a larger flatbed and was just leaving Fort Stockton at 16:00PM on the 3rd. There was a concern about the height of the truck and if it would clear the freeway overpass or not. During my drive to Austin I was asked to monitor the height of each bridge and texted the tow truck driver as to any heights under 16 feet. Due to the fact that this Tow Truck Driver was the nicest person representing Budget that I encountered up to this point I did as requested and monitored the height of the bridges and texted him in anywhere under 16 ft. Needless to say, we did not make it to Austin in time to get the keys to apartment.
Around 11:00PM on the 3rd we were informed that the truck had arrived and luckily the apartment gate was broken/Open so tow truck was able to move the damaged Budget Rental truck into the apartment parking lot. Only open space was towards the back of apartment complex opposite from my son's new apartment.
We managed to get Keys on the 5th and began unloading the truck but could not move the truck any closer to the apartment so we had to down load boxes into my In-Laws SUV and then drove the SUV back and fourth to the other side for apartment complex. For the furniture, we simply had to hand carry it around the parking lot taking several breaks due to the 100+ deg Temperature. Finally, after being unloaded, I was able to contact Budget and the damaged truck was towed away on the afternoon of the 5th. Called Customer service again on 6/12/23 @ 12:30
Spoke with “Al” from Customer Service and after explaining the situation and what occurred he immediately offered me a total of $409.00 to INCLUDE the $124.82 hotel cost in Fort Stockton. That was 25% of my my truck rental cost to include my hotel which I paid for myself. Had the truck broken down and roadside assistance dispatched in an hour or two the compensation offered would be acceptable.
HOWEVER, this was not a simple 2 hour delay. This delay caused me to have to extend my time away from work, 3 days delay directly related to this breakdown and lack of prompt and timely service from Budget Roadside assistance, having to constantly call Budget throughout this breakdown for updates and having to offer options to resolve my issue, the unprofessional and poor communication from the road service to include being told “I picked a bad time to break down”
I was given an email to send my grievance to since the offer of 25% was NOT acceptable to me. Today I received an email reply saying that they would only reimburse me 25% Could no one at Budget reached out to me given that I had told them my cell # at least 10X times? Seems like they are hoping you will go away with excessively long customer service times as well as only giving a email address to send emails too? Absurd.
At the very most, I should only have to pay for rental truck from Gilbert AZ to Fort Stockton TX ONLY.. as that’s were it broke down. I was only able to make it 449 miles of my 976 mile trip. 3 days worth of delays, not including my own time troubleshooting and re-wiring the trailer lights. I can honestly say I will not be recommending Budget Trucks to anyone in the future and almost feel that I need to post my personal experience on “Reddit” and/or “BBB” to warn others of what to expect when renting a budget Truck.
In closing after contacting Corporate Budget Truck rental and spending an additional hour on the phone with a supervisor, I was able to recuperate 45% of the basic truck rental that I paid (Not Including Tax) as well as my hotel cost. I felt it should have been 55% since I was only able to make it approximately 45% of the distance (449 miles of intended 976 miles) but further discussion with the supervisor was causing my blood pressure to climb and at this point, I simply wanted to put this Budget Truck Fiasco behind me. I advise others NOT TO RENT from Budget Truck Rental. There is a reason why they have a 2.1 out of a 5 for a Review Score. Save yourself the headache and rent from a reputable truck rental company.

I would DEFINITELY discourage ANYONE from renting from them. THEY ARE NOT GOVERNED BY CORPORATE BUDGET, as they are part of an individually franchised group. Thus, customer support that one would expect from a reputable company like Budget isn't available. Recently, I rented a truck for the weekend. When I returned the vehicle, the young woman at the counter checked everything on the vehicle and informed me that the truck smelled like cigarette smoke. This was a shock, I'm not a smoker and am actually highly asthmatic and acutely aware of the smell of smoke. I explained this to her but she really didn't seem to care, she just said that she called her manager and he told her to charge me $450 for smoking in the truck. I asked her if her manager was present on site to verify the issue, and she confirmed that he wasn't. I asked her to unlock the vehicle so that I could photograph the interior to demonstrate the cleanliness of it.
After doing so I again asked if anyone else was present to confirm the issue and she stated that she was the only one at the location. I called corporate Budget, they agreed to send a request to the location manager to remove the fee but indicated that they had no control over what the location would do given that the location is a franchise. This is a negative reflection on both Budget and the location in particular, as Budget allows businesses to operate under their name despite unethical practices. Falsely accusing people of smoking in vehicles is a great way to make money without any effort.
Luckily I have dated photos of the vehicle along confirmation that this fee was charged based on the opinion of one young woman. I will likely contest the charge with my credit card company, in which case the fee will be refunded because the location has no proof of the issue. I do feel obligated to make the public aware of how this company does business, as this practice is crooked as Hell. In addition, the location also charged me an extra $75 that no one has been able to account for (this was in addition to the $450 for smoke smell). Interesting to note: nowhere on the rental agreement is there language about a $450 fee for smoke smell. Obviously the absence of this language works in my favor. PLEASE do not give these people your business. It's my understanding that all Utah Budget locations (with the exception of maybe the airport) are part of this franchise group, and thus I would strongly recommend renting with another company... like ANY other company.

A very well planned out moving trip started out perfectly, our pre-scheduled 20’ Box Van and Car Trailer was ready as promised by Budget Truck Rentals in Santa Fe Springs California. We got loaded in less than 4 hours, and made it approximately 60 miles down the road, before the Car Trailer wheels caught on fire. Not an expert; but I believe the surge brakes locked. Called the Emergency HotLine, we waited 3 hours for Budget to pick-up the completely trashed Car Trailer and after 30+ hours for a replacement Car Trailer along the side of the road. After many, many calls to Budget; it was apparent that Budget did not have or would not get us a replacement Car Trailer. Absolutely Unbelievable!
We could wait no longer so we found a reasonably safe place to store the car and resumed our trip to Texas. I would give no stars if possible. My family (1 year old girl, wife, dog and cat) and I rented a 26ft Budget truck for pick up on the 26th of March 2023. We set off from CA to CO the night of the 28th with plans to be there the night of the 29th. We broke down in Wellington AZ at around 1am and had to get a motel room. A "mechanic" came out and let it run for an hour while he sat in a chair across the street waiting to clear a code. We got back on the road later around noon. We then broke down AGAIN close to Sunflower AZ, on the side of a mountain where budget left my family and I stranded from 5:30pm to 2am. The tow truck driver informed us they were not made aware we had a toddler in the car and it was made to seem like a non emergency. We had to be towed back to Phoenix AZ because budget truck rental said they had nothing to do if we were towed further to Payson AZ.
We were towed back to Phoenix and had to get another hotel room (I was also getting extremely ill from stress and knowing I had a new job I had to start after this horrible experience). So the next mechanic changed all the filters and said we were good to go again. SO.. we hit the road from Phoenix and made it to Payson AZ where we broke down for the third time. And every time you call Budget Truck Rental customer service, it is like they have no clue who you are or what the situation is. They are completely robotic workers with total lack of empathy or any care whatsoever. You have to completely explain from start to finish every single new person you talk to at budget truck rental.
So this time we had another mechanic come out to our next motel room in Payson AZ and he told budget truck rental at around 11pm that the engine is terrible and we need a new truck. Field service was not an option. So we had to get TWO nights again in Payson AZ before a "moving company" came and very sketchy, loaded all my belongings into a new truck delivered by a towing company. (The movers did not show up on time, about 11:30pm to be exact, were very rude and sketchy, and broke many of my things) So we didn't get back on the road until the 1st of April. (My truck is due on the 31st for drop off in Littleton CO, im still in AZ) So we get in extremely late to Pueblo CO where we have to get another motel room.
We get to our destination on the 2nd of April very late in the day and I need to start work the very next day. Again, I can not emphasize how absolutely terrible customer service is for Budget Truck Rental. They simply do not care, they have the attitude of roadside bandits there to rob you for more money if your truck breaks down and you miss your drop off date. So I dropped off the truck a couple of days after I started work because we had to finish unloading and I was very busy onboarding for work and whatnot. Come to find out, they charged me a $940 late fee for not having the truck dropped off in Littleton CO on the 31st. When I was still in AZ because their terrible truck kept failing on me. And when I called to demand money back, the first guy offered me 3/4 of my late fee back, the second guy (who I was escalated to) offered me 1/2 of the late fee back. Absolute robbery, disgusting business.
I would never recommend them or even consider going through them again. They are rude, uncaring, inconsiderate, will not accept any wrongdoing on their part, and left my family emotionally and financially drained after a move that was supposed to better our lives. I am furious with them. I will be seeing a representative of theirs in small claims soon.

8 am at Avis/Budget in El Paso, Tx. on North Mesa Street, the representative seemed under the influence while I was picking up truck. The truck was noted with some exterior damage in the beginning. During the drive, I realized it had a bad tire, bad windshield wipers, and the ignition key was faulty. At my first gas up I realized there was also no gas cap. The damage to the exterior noted at checkout let water in the compartment ruining my mattresses. The truck never made it to my final destination and I was stranded for a day. I had to unload my stuff to take it another way. Terrible truck rental company. In the end, Budget Truck Rental offered No reimbursement.

The truck leaked on my head for 8 hours, the truck would sway so much I could not drive more than 55, we had to unload and check for water damage while on the interstate and when we talked to customer services reps., they all had different excuses, rules or the famous “ there is nothing we can do”. I was told by the cashier in Springfield Ohio that I did not have to fill the tank because the truck was being decommissioned, they later charged me $135. I was trying to rent a 26' truck from three different Budget locations in NJ (Bayonne, Lyndhurst and Matawan). The Bayonne one didn’t have any trucks EVEN though I placed a reservation in advance. The one in Lyndhurst, where I was sent by the Bayonne employee on the same day, told me I was on a DO-NOT-RENT list. After spending 2 hrs on the phone with budget and after I was already at home in a different state, the company rep told me it was a Budget's mistake and if I still needed a truck, I could go back (drive 1 hr one way) and rent one. Ridiculous! Of course, I didn’t return to that pathetic "establishment". In two days, I gave them the last chance and went to their Matawan location. The rusty truck that they had for me was about 20 years old with cracked windshield, bare tires and extremely worn out in general. It is simply dangerous to ride in it. I am now seeking reimbursement for my wasted time and money I spent on workers, who were waiting for me at home to help load the truck.

The customer service was extremely unhelpful and unsympathetic. Terrible experience.

Even though Budget rents a 12 foot truck online, don't expect to get one. I had a 12 foot truck reserved over a month in advance, and when I went to pickup, it wasn't available. Hard to believe, but in a large city like Dallas there were no 12 foot trucks within 100 miles. So, I unfortunately got stuck with a 16 foot truck that was less efficient for my 1220 mile trip. I complained to their customer service about the the additional cost I had for less fuel efficiency. They gave me a $100 refund. If you need a small box truck do not rent from Budget. It's a trick to get your business, and are most likely not available. They hold back all their small box trucks for commercial customers like FEDEX or UPS, especially during the holiday season. Much better to rent a small truck from U-Haul, and they give a $50 refund if truck is not available. That fact that Budget doesn't allow reviews on their website says a lot.

I reserved a 12 foot truck today. My mom has been put into an assisted living facility in New Braunfels and we were going to her house in Floydada today to get some of my things. I called last night to see if I could pay for my rental in cash. I was told yes. We got there this morning and I was informed that as of October 1st, they no longer accept cash. So I went to Walgreens on Avenue Q and I put the cash on a debit card. Went back out to Budget and my card was declined. I was told that it had to be a debit card that was associated with a bank. So I pulled the cash from that debit card and I put it on a debit card that is through a bank. I was told that they would accept it. That was also declined. So I told them to cancel my reservation.
Now I won't be able to get anything that I want out of my mom's house thanks to Budget because my brother will probably throw my stuff away. I'm already furious with him for not informing me that they were moving my mom to New Braunfels until everything was said and done. As a single mom with low income, I chose Budget because it was cheaper. But it was a nightmare, wasting lots of gas and time running around trying to find a way that they would accept my payment for the truck but they would never accept it. So I gave up after wasting about 2 hours trying to get the stupid truck.

Say What? The gal I spoke with was non-committal and dispassionate that any truck in any size could be confirmed on the day that I had "reserved". Before you rent from them, just be aware that they do not put customers first. For one, I reserved my budget truck about a month in advance, then when I was randomly reviewing my order one day, the reservation was gone. When I called they said they my reservation was cancelled because someone else needed the truck. What does that even mean?? Also I would have NEVER known that I wasn't going to have my truck if I hadn't randomly checked the reservation and then called. But my main complaint is in regards to all the water damage that basically ruined half of my things. There were leaks all throughout the truck so when it rained, the water ended up damaging my mattress, box spring, clothes, rugs, etc.
When I called I explained that I did not pay for the insurance, but they assured me that regardless of this, I would be eligible for compensation due to the fact that the truck was not secure. I mean it's one thing if my stuff got stolen, but the damage to my stuff was 100% due to their truck having holes and not being up to standard with what they claim.
Anyways they send me on this wild goose chase to submit a claim which takes foreverrrr. Then, 15 business days later, we receive a letter saying we don't qualify for any compensation because we didn't opt in for the insurance. Why did they make me waste hours of my life filling out forms and emailing people just to tell me what I already knew and explained to them from the very beginning?? All this to say, I understand that I didn't get the insurance, but given that all the damage to my things was solely due to defects in the vehicle, I am disappointed that they have led me on just to tell me a month later that they aren't going to help me at all.

If I could give them 0 star for Customer Service I would. The truck itself drove fine and we got to where we needed to be just fine. However, I was told at the Utah location that if I bring the truck back before it was due, we would get a refund. The drive to our new home was 12.5 hours. It took 30 min to unload and if the drop off location was open until 10:30pm, we would've brought it back. However, we settled with bringing it back the next day because the minimum they offer was 4 days and we would still bring it back way before the due date. We bring it back and ask for the refund and the lady said we would have to call customer service because they don't deal with that there. I call customer service and after being on hold for 15 minutes, they tell me that they couldn't get ahold of the Utah location, possibly because it was Memorial Day weekend but if I kept my receipts for gas and such, she's sure that I could get my refund.
Fast forward to Tuesday and they tell me they don't do refunds. I ask for a supervisor, they said they'll call me within 24-48 hours. I wait Wednesday, and still no call. Thursday comes and I directly ask for a supervisor and I wait on hold for 45 minutes and finally get someone. They tell me that they'll have to send a request to the Utah location since they told me about the refund there and once they hear back from Utah location, they will let me know. Fast forward to Tuesday, (I wanted to give them a couple of days to actually call me before I call them but that didn't happen) and the rep said that they should have an update by Wednesday. I wait Wednesday and Thursday and still no call.
I call them Friday (today) and I was told that the request was denied. I'm incredibly frustrated because I wasted my time and energy, calling them for almost 3 weeks now waiting for a resolution that would satisfy both parties. I understand that I wasn't going to get the full refund but I was told by 2 people that I would at least get something. If they offered a 2-day minimum for the truck, we would've taken it because it didn't take us long to get to our destination and unload. The customer service representative had the nerve to tell me that she didn't have a supervisor today when I asked for one and suggested I call back tomorrow. Um no. I'm out a LOT of money and I'm just annoyed at the lack of compromise with the company.
If they don't do refunds, then why would I be told that? I feel that I've been very patient and gave them the benefit of the doubt every time I've called them but every time, I've had to wait on hold for 30-40 min and rehearse to them my situation. Very frustrating and disappointing end to our experience with Budget. I suggest looking at all the rental truck options before settling for them.

I called the national office and they said they would look for a trailer, but that it would be "difficult" to get a driver to deliver a trailer and then have to drive back to their own offices... About 2 hours later I was told that there were no trailers available within 150 miles and that basically I was up the creek without a paddle and could call one of their competitors. If I could give this company one star, I would. Worst experience ever & a total waste of money. My boyfriend & I rented a truck and trailer 5 months ago & are still dealing with customer service. Upon picking up the truck/trailer, the engine light was on (worker said it was fine & there was no other truck to rent so we had to go with it). The worker kept telling us to get insurance (kinda weird how pushy they were being as if they knew the trailer would have issues).
When picking up trailer, the worker was blowing up one of the tires (thought nothing of it, maybe just needed more air). After only 3 hours of driving, the tire (that the worker was double checking & blowing up) on the trailer completely blew up & started smoking. My boyfriend is a mechanic & was able to tell that every other tire was brand new except the one that blew up. He contacted road-side assistance through Budget who left him on the side of the road for 2 hours before contacting him back & then still took another 2 hours before we gave up & decided to go to a nearby mechanic because we were on a deadline. Who knows how long Budget would have taken.
We went to a nearby mechanic who told us that we should have never been allowed to drive this trailer. The tired was so old & the trailer was missing a necessary piece to even use. We contacted Budget again who still did nothing to help so we decided to continue driving the trailer on only 3 tires because we had no choice & no extra money to spend. Once again my boyfriend is a mechanic & knows you can still drive on 3 tires & he constantly stopped to make sure there was no issues throughout the drive. Trailer looked the same from start to finish.
Eventually WEEKS later after Budget tried charging us extra for calling road-side assistance & not being there when they arrived (6 hours later apparently), we had to spend days arguing & fighting that THEY were in the wrong. Totally unprofessional. Eventually we got the money back for just the trailer rental. Now it’s 5 months later & they’re trying to charge us $1200 for trailer repairs (ISSUES THAT WERE THERE BEFORE OUR DRIVE). Total freaking scam & absolute worst company ever. Go anywhere else. It’s worth paying a little more to not have to deal with all this **.

I cannot stress this statement enough: DO NOT USE BUDGET. We RESERVED two vehicles two weeks before our move; one 16 ft for furniture and whatnot, and a cargo van for our small animals. When we arrived, we were told that they needed to substitute a 12 ft truck for the van which was not acceptable. We NEEDED the van for our small animals and their cages. We turned down the 12 ft van, and ended up borrowing a small van from a friend. We were using a credit card to get the 16 ft truck, and were STILL charged a deposit. To date, that deposit has NOT been returned to us, even though "customer service" claims otherwise. Due to the fact that we did not get the vehicle we RESERVED, several of our pets lost their lives during the trip.
I contacted "customer service" regarding these, and a myriad other problems with Budget, and was told that their "terms of service" do not guarantee a vehicle will be available, even if it is reserved. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard in quite a while. When one RESERVES an item, and pays money for the reservation, one would reasonably expect that item to be available for the day it was RESERVED. That is what a RESERVATION is. Due to the lies, ineptitude, extremely unprofessional "customer service", and what I believe is credit card fraud, I intend on contacting an attorney to resolve these matters. In the meantime, I HIGHLY suggest that NOBODY uses Budget rentals in any way, shape or form. All the bad reviews do not lie....

I only rated it one because zero was not an option! I rented truck #**a couple of weeks ago to move furniture from Illinois to Alabama. It cost me a fortune to rent this truck $1265. I started my trip down I-65, and I noticed the check engine light popped up for a second time. The first time, was when I got the truck and I had a Budget mechanic drive to my house to fix it. This truck had 180k miles on it! Anyways, as I started driving south, I noticed that the suspension was horrible! I was not able to control the vehicle very well when driving around left turns or over bumps. I am guessing there were issues with the struts, ball joints, sway bar links or all of the above. I had to drive 40-45mph just to make sure I did not crash on the highway! It was horrible.
I finally made it after a 14 plus hour drive. I am surprised I didn't die from a crash or a heart attack! I returned the truck in Alabama and things did not get much better from there. The service rep was unable to log into the computer and I had to do a bunch of follow-ups just to make sure the truck was returned. I also had to speak to customer service to make sure they knew how dangerous truck #516263 was. I told them that this truck should be removed from their fleet immediately because someone was going to die driving it. A customer service rep named Geraldo told me he was going to have the truck serviced - I hoped he did! He also said he was going to reimburse me for my horrible experience...nearly two weeks later...no reimbursement! I will never rent from BUDGET again and I would recommend that you don't either!

This is the second time I've rented a Budget Truck during the COVID-19 pandemic. As if that's not enough stress, both times I received a dirty truck, with the remnants from the last customer to clean up before I could utilize my own rental time. Add going to the pick-up location and the truck not being available at the reserved/validated time. I had a mover with me who was tied now also tied up for an extra 1.5 hours, sitting in his hot pick-up truck in a hot parking lot waiting for Budget (Corporate/Representatives) to rectify the situation. I was told it could take up to 2 hrs to receive a call back. I stayed at the site telling Budget this was their problem, that I reserved a truck, gave up my Visa Debit card to lock in the same and even got reminder emails up until the morning of the truck rental.
When the guy at the pick-up location finally arrived on site, the truck needed to be gassed up, so that was an additional wait. All I wanted to do was get my now delayed (more stressful and added costs incurred) day started. I took photos of the condition of the truck. A few hours later, I dropped of the truck at the appointed location only to find that Budget associate wasn't leaving her desk, but that I was to go get the odometer reading. Turns out something was wrong with that (the mileage never changed) and somehow was charged an additional $112.00 for "additional miles." When asked how that was possible, no data was available to that rep to give to me. It was later, when I saw my gas receipt for the $15.00 to top the tank off before returning the truck a day early, that I realized I had been bamboozled.
I have fought the charges of that entire truck rental day, and all Budget could muster up is a $50 refund. My response was I'd rather go to small claims court, where I'd then add compensation on top of the rental refund for services that were less than professional and lacking every bit of customer service owed this single 67 year old retired female with MS who was just trying to move her personal belongings in a new state where I had to hire help, which included Budget Truck Rental. You'd have thought they gave me the truck to use for free. Their entitlement pass to abuse paying consumers should be an embarrassment to the company Budget-Avis.
What I will warn anyone reading this is...buyer beware. Spend the extra money and go with one of the other larger truck rental options that won't treat you like they're doing you a big favor. You'll be glad you did. I'm sorry I didn't. Penny wise, dollar stupid. That's how I feel about using Budget simply because my AARP membership allows me to use a discount code. For the measly $38 I saved, I paid for ten fold in stress and mover overtime. I'll be informing AARP as well. They need to know who they sponsor and present to their senior population. Today I received a resolution email that said they'd credit me $80 as despite all that occurred as a paying customer, I was still "able to complete my move" in the time allotted for the rental. This is how Budget "fixes" their internal issues.
Apparently customers are a dime a dozen now, but now there'll be one less senior to abuse and hopefully this review will send some who are undecided towards a more customer oriented organization/company/business. I disputed the charges for the services received with my bank as well. I hope that Budget considers their $80 settlement damages well spent, as I believe the number of negative reviews have cost them way more than that dismal amount. My time (retired) might not be worth anything to big business, but when the number of consumers that go with another rental company grows, perhaps they'll rethink their current rentals/claims/resolution practices.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Please be warned about the terrible customer service and vehicle from Budget Truck Rental in North Attleboro, MA. Upon arriving, I noticed a very dented cargo van parked ON THE GRASS and hoped it was not the one I had reserved months in advance from a move from Massachusetts to Florida, but it was.
When entering the store, I was not greeted with a smile and a "how can I help you", but with a snarl and a very annoyed lady. She asked for my credit card and license, then proceeded to push me into buying a very unnecessary insurance policy. After she returned my cards and I returned the declined insurance form, I asked if my husband could be added as a driver. She said "I already did the contract". She refused to change it. Not sure if it was because her cell phone was ringing off the hook or if she is just very rude in general. The only other words she spoke to myself and my husband is that we are lucky that we are moving to a red state. I have no idea why she felt this was part of providing a good customer experience.
Let's get back to the cargo van. It had massive dents all over it, the inside was absolutely filthy. Dust, dirt and sticky stuff everywhere. The windshield looked like someone chain-smoked in there for a couple years. We found out one of the windshield wipers was broken on our ride down, surely a violation of DOT. The windshield wiper fluid cap was missing as well as the oil cap. Oil was all over the engine. The speed limit most highways down to Florida is 70, but we couldn't even get close to that. The van shook violently over 50 mph. Obviously no safety checks are done. And super obvious that no one cleans the vehicles. I will never rent from Budget and warn anyone who is thinking about it that their vehicles could kill you.

The truck was dirty and full of someone’s pet hair. When You’re paying 1500$ for a truck your things should at least not come out gross and dirty and covered in pet hair when you own no pets. The cab was also dirty with pet hair, which flew in my face when I rolled the windows down, sticky spots on the dash and trash and cereal under the seats.
When we arrived to pick up the truck I was told they didn’t have the car dolly I had reserved several months in advance. I was told they tried to call me the day before and it was other renters fault because they are rough on them… I had to scramble to find someone to drive my car as I had been planning on making the trip alone. I then had additional expenses I had not budgeted for, several hundred more dollars in gasoline and three more hotel nights for the second person driving my car, also the immediate need for an oil change.
About 15 hours of our 33 hour trip was in the rain, which leaked into the cab and onto my head and ran down my back. I did not want to call Budget for a replacement truck as the lady at pickup told us if we had any problems someone would drive us a new truck but we would have to move everything from the first truck to the new truck ourselves. I have a table that weighs about 350# there is no way I could move it with just one persons help.
I emailed the customer service team to see about compensation for the leaky truck and expenses incurred from their error not having the tow dolly. They offered 70$ and then 130$. Very disappointed. They are price gouging everyone since the pandemic anyways the least they could do would be to give adequate compensation. I picked budget because Uhaul was 300$ More expensive, but in the end with the extra gas and hotel room it would have actually been 400$ cheaper! If you do rent from budget for a one way trip and are planning on towing a vehicle, be sure you have an extra thousand in the bank and a backup driver on standby.

Once I got in the truck, I noticed dirty and torn seats - not cool. The truck looked pretty old too. Immediately upon starting the truck, the check engine light illuminated and stayed on while I checked AC, mileage and gas. No way would I rent this vehicle!
I cancelled the reservation and explained the issue. I was asked if I wanted another truck. Not from that location, no thanks. Thank God for Penske! Was able to get a clean, newish truck. The clerk checked the truck with me (as expected) and when I called Penske, it was explained that after 4 years, they sell the trucks and that 50% of their trucks are new. Oh, the cost ended up being about $50 more than Budget!!

Never use Budget Truck Rental! I made a reservation for a 12 foot truck about a month before my move. Because I was moving from Los Angeles, CA to UT, it was very expensive (over $1,200). When I showed up to pick up my truck I was informed that they didn't have any 12 foot trucks and that all they had were vans. They had my reservation in the computer but they said there was nothing that they could do because they didn't have any trucks. They said that if I would have read all the fine print that it didn't actually say that they would have the type of truck that I had reserved when I showed up. Apparently, a "reservation" is not actually a reservation for this company.
My entire move was scheduled around this date and a van wasn't going to cut it. They never called or emailed or anything to tell me that there might be a problem. They told me that they had no visibility into availability at other locations and there was nothing they could do. After some heated discussion they somehow "found" a 16 foot truck that was supposed to go to someone else (sorry to that guy!) and gave it to me. Then, I had to deal with them pushing insurance on me and making me call my insurance company to verify that I was covered.
Luckily I had a truck (although it was too big for my purposes) but unfortunately it was a piece of trash. It had over 185,000 miles on it and I felt like it was going to break down at any moment. It started overheating as I drove through the desert and the air conditioner stopped working. I slowed down and stopped for a bit to try to make sure it wouldn't overheat. For the whole 11 hour trip I thought it was going to break down at any moment and that I was going to be stranded somewhere. Luckily, I made it.
As if that wasn't enough, the back of the truck was infested with ants that got all over my stuff! The disaster only got worse when I tried to return the truck. The return "office" was just a shed and despite it being during business hours (8:30 with business hours being from 8 - 5), nobody was there. There was a phone number to call in the event that nobody was at the office but, of course, no one answered the phone. I had to come back later in the day to find the office still locked but at least someone answered the phone that time. How does a company function with such incompetence, horrible business processes, and disregard for the customer? I will never use them again.

I wanted to post this to hopefully save others from going through what we have been going through. We have been stranded in Barstow, California for three days. We rented the largest Budget truck in northern California for our move to Texas. We picked it up and it broke down in Barstow, before we reached our first stop. Initially the service was terrific. They had a mechanic out for review by 8 AM the next morning. The truck had to be taken to their shop pending approval from budget for the parts and labor to fix the truck. There is literally no communication and every time we call the fleet department for budget we are told that they have no update because budget has not approved the repairs. This is after being on hold for 30 minutes to an hour.
We have called twice a day for the last three days and gotten nowhere. All of our possessions are sitting in the truck in the lot of the company that is supposed to fix it. We have spent $900 and hotel fees as well as had to pay for food for three days for three people. I would not suggest using budget trucks to anybody. We are still stranded here and we are losing valuable time at work in addition to the money we’ve already spent.

Budget Truck Rental trucks are the worst I've ever seen. I rented a one way truck from Phoenix to Louisville and the check engine light came on and off the whole trip, the exhaust fell off several times, the came on and off the whole, a loud banging sound from the top of the truck and the windshield wipers scratched the windshield they were so bad. And Budget could care less. I was also supposed to get my deposit back at drop off and they decided they could only mail me a check. Customer service blew me off several times and roadside assistance would never answer the phone. Horrible, horrible company! Don't find out the hard way.

I've rented moving vehicles multiple times and this was the worst experience. I got a confirmation email for the reservation 48 hours beforehand. I called the local office to see if I could pick up slightly earlier and was told there weren't any trucks available. When asked how to address this I got a snarky "Budget doesn't guarantee truck rentals". This is for a cross country move within 48 hours of rental time.
I've spent hours on the phone with various levels of budget from their local office at this location to corporate trying to get more information on what's happening without any help. I've been told 4 times now that someone would call me within 2 hours to provide an update and hours later no one has called so I've had to try following up. You spend 20-30 min on the phone before you get to anyone who even knows that there's been an incident with your reservation. Multiple times I've been on hold long enough that their system disconnects the call and I've had to start over. I've been told that there was a truck at the location by customer service only to call the local location trying to verify to be told no there wasn't.
It's now 3pm the afternoon before my move the next morning and I've had to spend time finding another truck with a different company because they still have no update... And this is all after being incredibly proactive with multiple promises of a call back. If I hadn't called to try and move the hours up I would never had known (no one from budget let me know) and would have showed up at this location only to find there is no truck available after arranging all the details for the move. They have never even had the courtesy to call to let me know there was an issue or give me an update on what was going on. Please save yourself the hours and hassle and rent from another company! You don't want to show up only for there not to be a vehicle available and no one from budget available to help.

We’ve never dealt with a more incompetent business. We rented a 26’ moving truck for today to move from Kentucky to North Carolina. The only Budget truck available was over an hour away. Imagine our surprise when we’re supposed to leave to pick the truck up, we get a call saying they don’t have a 26’ but a 16’ available. She said we should’ve gotten a phone call or email from Budget. We received no contact from them whatsoever.
Already stressed because our stuff is not going to fit in a 16’, we drive the hour and a half to find we couldn’t use my husband's discount through work for reasons unknown to us, she just told us she couldn’t use it for this order. It was going to cost us more to rent the 16’ than the 26’, with the full coverage. Budget was contacted and said nothing can be done. Now to drive another hour out of the way to pick up a 20’ U-Haul that’s less than what we were spending at Budget. Save yourself the time and money and rent with U-Haul the first time.

I recently rented a truck to move my mother in law to another state. I got a reservation from Budget Truck Rental, and another truck company. I ended up booking with a different truck company so I ended up cancelling the reservation with Budget literally less than 2 hours after I booked it and even got a confirmation email of cancellation. I received a voicemail from the office I was supposed to pick up the Budget truck asking me where I was, and when I was going to pick up the truck as there is a $75 dollar cancellation charge for no shows. I called the woman back and explained to her that I cancelled the reservation 2 hours after I booked it and have a confirmation email of cancellation. She said she cancelled it and I should get no fee. Lo and behold, the $75 dollar fee showed up on my credit card 2 days later.
I called budget's 800 number and explained it to them. The lady on the phone said she has processed the refund for $75. My credit card balance still says otherwise. I have a feeling I'm going to have to dispute this charge with my credit card in a few days. I don't understand the issue here and why I am getting fees for something I canceled way in advance. The worst customer service ever! 1st off, I get to the location for my rental and they hand me a questionnaire full of insurance coverage questions that there is no way anyone would know the answers to. Since I was on a time constraint as most people are, I had no way to answer these questions. So, they gave me no choice but to pay for their $60 insurance. When I get the truck, it was missing its front end and was absolutely filthy inside! The customer service is even worse than the truck was. When I told them of the problems they were rude and snarky. They are only concerned with their bottom line, not making customers happy. Heck! It wouldn't have even taken that much to make me happy, just not giving me a broken down truck and doubling the cost of rental once I'm actually at the pick-up place.
They did not seem too bothered at the fact that I was given this junk truck to use and forced insurance upon when it was already practically falling apart. I sent in pictures and they offered me a measly $5 refund! It just seems like a great deal until you actually get there. This company needs to be held accountable for it's actions. When you try to kill people it usually lands you in prison, but when it's a company doing the deed apparently it's perfectly fine. This is my account of what happened to my family at their hands. Budget isn't a great company at all. They rented us a truck that was a piece of garbage that should have been taken off the road. When the lady we rented from did a walk around with us she assured us there were no issues aside from a dent on the right door. She lied...smaller issues included the lock being broke on the right door, to random other things broke throughout. The door rattled when we drove and I had to worry about the door coming open in the middle of the interstate, the wheel would stick making it impossible to stay in the center of the road, and if you were not careful the truck would drift almost getting us into an accident several times.
The break and gas pedal were yanked up at the same level and would stick as well, just moving where we did we almost died in a head on collision with a semi. I was literally screaming the whole time. "Back the truck up! Back it up," to my fiancee's brother who drove me and all my fiancee and my furniture. And don't even get me started on their ridiculous policy of only the driver is allowed to pay, something they even admitted they don't tell the customer til they show up to rent.
When we turned the truck in to the state we moved to the woman behind the counter was shocked when we told her what happened and even said "why was this allowed on the road without inspection?" She agreed to serve as our witness when we reported this and Budget's answer...not even an apology. "Oh your life was in danger, here we'll...let you generously have 60 bucks back out of the 850 you spent. Aren't we so kind?" If anyone has any sense should never ever use Budget, not unless you have a death wish.

We picked up the truck with a car hauler for a move from MN to CA. We left the pickup area and got on the hwy. I pulled behind my brother who was driving and noticed one of the 4 trailer tires was flat. We pulled over and were able to continue because it was a double axel trailer and there was no weight on it yet. We continued home and tried to call Budget but were just passed around to different numbers and finally gave up and took the tire in to get fixed ourselves. When we went to load his car on the trailer one of the tire straps was knotted up. We spent over an hour trying to unknot it.
We ended up taking the strap mounting off the trailer by unbolting it to get the strap unknotted so we could use it. We opened the back of the truck and there were a few items left inside from the last person that used it. We loaded the truck and started off. It started to rain. Water dripped in the entire length of the cab where the back of the cab meets the rear enclosure. Both of us were wet, not a little spray but a lot of water. I suggest a different company. Thanks.

I rented a truck and trailer on Friday 4/30/21 from Iowa. Got to Indy and the trailer rear tire broke off at 65 miles a hour on the freeway and went sideways which almost caused the trailer with my vehicle to flip and flipping the truck and almost killing me. Was left on the freeway for 3 hours almost getting hit several times. The police came and sat with me but had to leave for emergencies. The mechanic arrived 3 hours later and said that the trailer should have never been on the road and it was complete neglect from Budget Truck Rental. There was significant damage to the trailer tire wheel that broke off that was caused over a long period of time. All the tires on the trailer were missing lugnuts. The tire that broke off and the tires next to it had the lugnuts installed backwards which also caused them to be loose.
Once he removed all the tires he saw there were no breaks on the trailer at all. The tire that broke off brakes were destroyed and the other tires had no brake pads and were metal to metal and even the mechanisms for the brakes were not working. The mechanic said this was complete negligence on the part of Budget Truck Rental.
The mechanic was able to get the tire off and have me get the truck off the next exit 4 miles down the road. I had to pay $200 a night for a hotel because it was near a racetrack that was having a event and oh my had one room left. Been at the hotel now 3 days and I have called Budget Truck Rental several times and they give me no help at all and have lied to me. They said there is no trailer available at the moment to send me to replace the trailer I have which is a lie. I am 15 miles from Indianapolis and can go online and rent the same trailer right now.

There were no envelopes so we left the truck and I came back in the morning.
When I got there, they asked if I had filled up the truck, they didn't say that at the time of rental so I said I had not. They said they could fill it up (it was only used about 4 gallons), but that there was an additional $35.00 fee. She told me she would only charge me $10.00. I recently moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina and rented a truck from Budget to make the move. The day before my move, Budget informed me that the truck I reserved was not available and, on such short notice, I was forced to use a smaller truck. The reduction in overall truck capacity made it necessary for me to put things in storage as I could not get everything on the smaller truck. The vehicle had clearly not been serviced recently. There was no wiper fluid and the air pressure in the tires was low enough to trigger the low-pressure indicator on the dash. I took care of that issue myself.
When I went to return the truck in North Carolina I had great difficulty finding their facility. My GPS took me to an Avis/Budget facility but it was closed and had a For Sale sign on it. When I called the local number on my contract, it kept forwarding me to the National number where no one was able to assist me in locating the drop-off site. Finally, around 10 am, someone answered the local number. I was subsequently directed to leave the truck in a dirt lot along the perimeter of the local airport which was across the road from the abandoned facility. There was no signage and no other vehicle in the lot. I then was instructed to take the keys into the airport and drop them off at the Avis/Budget counter. I can’t believe a national company operates like this.

She then gave us the dirtiest vehicle I have ever been in. It was old and filthy. No way to charge my phone. The driver side door didn't lock and there was dirt everywhere. It smelled so bad we had to spray with ozium to be able to drive it.

Why would you make me go through the process of putting my information online and then cancel it. The name of the Business represents it perfectly. So do the rest of the reviews.

On 06/03/20, I was moving a friend from Las Vegas to Oklahoma. Our lives were put in danger and we literally could have DIED because of the incompetence of Budget Truck Rentals. For the lack of following the maintenance check procedures on multiple occasions during this trip. May 26th, 2020, I made an online reservation; When we arrived we were told that they were bringing our truck around to the front. A few minutes later, we were told out truck had mechanical issues and they were getting another truck but this 2nd truck had no working A/C. (Was 110* in Las Vegas). So here, I’ll ask for the first time, "Why was there no inspection done on these trucks ahead of time? Is that not your policy, to inspect the safety and reliability of a truck before letting a customer get into it to drive it?" So now we were told we had to drive across town; 25 minutes away to pick up another truck from another location.
We had scheduled movers at 10 am, so now this was the first extra cost incurred because we had to pay double as we only paid for 2 hours and the movers had to be there for almost 4 hours. When they brought the truck up for us (This is technically truck #3), I was told; “you don’t have to do the walk through since you have the insurance that covers everything”. I proceeded to verify anyhow that there was no damage to the truck that wasn’t already indicated on the paperwork. We got the truck loaded. When we started out, we noticed there was a vibration but just assumes, as been my experience in the past with moving trucks, that the truck was old and beat and probably the wheels were not properly aligned.
After a few hours on the highway, (keep in mind we were driving averaging 60-70 miles an hour) we were flagged down frantically but a motorist. When we pulled over he told us that the front driver’s side wheels were drastically wobbling. We could clearly see that the front side driver’s wheel was extremely angled outwards! We immediately called customer service and was advised to pull over safely somewhere where there was a gas station and/or motel and call roadside assistance. Since we were 100 miles from Flagstaff and there were no major towns or locations to pull over safely, we drove around 40 miles per hour to Flagstaff and pulled into a Chevron gas station.
We then called Roadside Service (on-hold for approx 45 mins.) who informed that it would be at least a few hours before someone could get there. So we waited and finally about 3 hours later someone came from a tow company and after a while said that the front driver's wheel Ball joint was broken! If a ball joint fails, a vehicle's suspension can collapse or the wheel could fall off causing the vehicle to lose control! So, here is the 2nd time I will ask; "Why was there no inspection done on these trucks ahead of time? Is that not your policy, to inspect the safety and reliability of a truck before letting a customer get into to drive it? We could have been killed!" So now the tow truck driver gets on the phone with Roadside Service, another 40 minutes until someone answered. We were told we had to wait until the next day to get another truck.
At this point we tried calling customer service to inquire about getting a hotel room, only to find out you do not have after hours customer service!! We called roadside assistance who said to pay for the room then asked to be reimbursed. So first, I cannot believe that you do not offer after hours customer service when you have customers traveling 27/7. Also, and I would like an answer to this question, What if I did I have a major credit card and only enough cash for gas money? I am curious what your answer will be because if I was not traveling with my friend this would be the case, she has no major credit cards required to rent a hotel room and only had enough cash for the gas for the trip.
Note, when I spoke to customer service the next day and was speaking to a supervisor, she couldn’t give me an answer to this question and hung up on me! So I fully expect corporate customer service to answer this question. The next day, being already delayed by about 20 hours now, I get a phone call at approx 9am stating a different truck and movers would be there in 90 mins. Just at about the 90 min mark, I see a tow truck bring the replacement truck, I go outside to meet the person, he just gives me the keys and leaves, with no walk around performed. I go back into the hotel since it’s check out time and to get our belongings. We go out to where the trucks are to wait for the movers who were supposed to be there at that time, and we get recorded phone message that the movers will now be there in 2-1/2 hours!! This is very poor customer service to have a recorded message.
It’s now 100 degrees outside, so we have to go back in and check in again, so again I ask, how who someone be able to do this if they don’t have a credit card?? I go out to the trucks to start moving the items from the front cab to the other truck that was just brought to us and decided to take a closer look at the truck and test drive it around the parking lot just to make sure it was OK. Well guess what? There was quite a bit of shaking and vibration with this truck (Truck #4 if you’re keeping score). I look at the front driver’s side wheel and it is also at an angle and I could literally move the wheel back and forth with my hands! I call customer service (on hold again for 40 mins!!) and was speaking to a supervisor as I mentioned before and was hung up on.
I did receive a call within about 15 minutes from another supervisor who was at least helpful and sounded concerned, the only employee so far in this whole ordeal that did. She said she would send a tow truck to take a look. When the tow truck came, he first stated he didn’t think anything was out of the ordinary until I showed him I could move the tire and asked him to drive it around the parking lot and to let me know if he was willing to put our lives at risk with that truck on the road all the way to Oklahoma. After he test drove the truck, he then apologized and said he was not the person who drove it over to us and that the tire was clearly sitting at an angle and that the wheel bearings were probably bad. So, here is the 3rd time I will ask; "Why was there no inspection done on these trucks ahead of time? Is that not your policy, to inspect the safety and reliability of a truck before letting a customer get into to drive it?"
Once again, the tow truck company calls customer service (another 40 Mins wait time!) Shortly after the same supervisor called me back and said another truck was on its way and so were the movers. The movers were fast & efficient!! So by approximately 27 hours behind schedule, we were ready to get back on the road with what would be truck #5 for this move. Note: This truck also had bad wearing on the outside of the passenger tire and no gas cap! The tow truck driver had to cut the cap off one of the other trucks. This truck also had previous front end damage, since no walk through was performed I took pictures. One of the movers was very concerned about the tire wear and warned us to drive carefully. So, here is the 4th time I will ask; "Why was there no inspection done on these trucks ahead of time? Is that not your policy, to inspect the safety and reliability of a truck before letting a customer get into to drive it?"
Also throughout this whole ordeal; when I left home I forgot the rental agreement. I tried numerous times over 2 days to find someone who could help email me a copy. I was first told by the national Customer Service center that they could not provide it to me and that the origination location could only provide it. I call Budget Truck rentals where I picked up the truck and signed the agreement; they informed me that only the destination location office could provide it to me. I tried calling the local number for the destination location numerous times but it would only ring a few times and then transfers to the national Customer Service number. I literally tried over a dozen times in 2 days. When I finally got to the destination office, they informed me only the origination location could provide it to me. I was never able to get a copy.
Your customer service needs to be available 24/7 and overall needs training and ways to better support customer when they call in with serious issues. Side note: there were multiple Budget trucks on the side of the road during our trip, and the tow company said they have to tow Budget trucks more often than other companies!

To be honest, Budget was so bad I created an account just to leave a review. I booked reservations about over a month ago and got a confirmation email. I called 2 days before the move to add something to reservation, and they said my booking wasn't confirmed. After they dug deeper, they realized it was their mistake and admit as much and said they would escalate this to the manager, and I would get a call back in at least 2 hours, but everything should be all set. I received no call in 4 hours, so I call back. It is the same routine accusing me of messing up and realizing it was their mistake, escalating it to the manager and telling me I will get a call in the next 2 hours. 3 hours go by, and no call. I call back. This time they apologize and tell me they will escalate this to the highest level. I was weary and told them the situation before, and they promise I will get a call.
2 hours later, no call. So I call back knowing that the office closing in an hour and a half. So I ask to speak to the manager to solve my issue. I was bounced around and put on hold for an hour and a half to run out the time until they were off the clock. Then they transferred me to the manager which ran reservations, not customer service!! She wasn't even able to leave a note that I called. She told me I was "out of luck" and that there was nothing I could do but call back tomorrow as the office was closed. I am moving in 2 days and spend all day figuring out if I have a truck to move or need to book another one, and they couldn't tell me. They keep jerking me around until the office closed. Now I move in 24 hours and might have to pay an extra $600 to rent somewhere else because it is so late. DO NOT GO WITH BUDGET.

I'd purchased the roadside assistance, so was "delighted" when a mechanic showed up 3 hours later -- then two hours later, said I was good to go. The truck broke down AGAIN, approx 50 miles later. Again, roadside assistance showed up hours later -- at roughly 3 am... Could not get the truck running. Truck was swapped out the next day... AGAIN, sterilized a filthy truck... We rented a truck to drive from VA to TX. I feel like it would have been nice to be warned that their trucks don't have cruise control. But I KNOW it is unacceptable to rent trucks that have cabs that aren't watertight. We know that they were aware of the problem because once the rain started pouring in, my husband tried to stuff a shirt in to stop the water from coming in and found paper towels that someone else had already put there. Clearly someone else had discovered this problem previously.
The tire pressure warning light came on repeatedly, despite the fact that tire pressure was fine (we stopped and bought a gauge to check). The entire trip was awful. I specifically chose Budget because I was afraid of UHaul's reputation of unreliable trucks, but that would have been a more comfortable experience. We will never rent another Budget (or Avis) truck or car, nor will anyone I know if I have anything to say about it. I cannot believe they would rent a truck that lets in that much water - we were practically drowning! I will say that the BACK of the truck (where our things were) stayed dry. Only the people got very, very wet.

His vehicle damaged because the relic (the outer shell of the tire) hit his vehicle and he stopped by to claim about the damage. I was really stressed and did not know what to do.
After several hours the police officer resolved the issue and the Hyundai driver satisfied that it was not my fault. Police said Budget must take responsibility of this collision. Anyways, renting a truck from Budget was the worst experience I have had so far from a rental company. I recently moved to Wisconsin from South Carolina and needed a truck to get all my furniture. I usually use U-Haul and never had any problems, but I saw Budget was priced lower for my trip. When I went to go pick up my truck the guy was doing a walk around at the truck before handing me the keys, and I noticed the rear tires were completely bald. So he took me to another truck, did a walk around, but failed to see the left tail light was hanging out. He wrote it down and I turned on the truck and saw the "Engine Check" light was on. I pointed it out to him and he said "It's okay. We do maintenance on our trucks and check the fluids. All of our trucks run good!". So he convinced me it was ok to make the 16 and a half hour ride up to Wisconsin.
I left at 2am to drive up so I can be there before my labor got there to help me unload the truck, and sure enough the truck breaks down and the engine is overheated. I then called up Budget's roadside assistance, and had to wait 2 hours in 28 degree weather in a car I couldn't start, and froze till help arrived. When help arrived he told me to get in his truck and warm up. He found out that the radiator was bad and that there was no coolant in the truck because it was leaking. I was SHOCKED! I could't believe that they would lie to me and tell me that the truck was ready to go, when it shouldn't even have left the lot.
He then gave me 2 extra gallons of coolant so I can make the rest of the trip home. I ended up missing my labor and having my girlfriend's old parents help me carry in heavy furniture, which took us hours! I was never able to get my money back for the labor I had scheduled for that day. I then returned the truck and called customer service. I then got transferred around because no one wanted to help me until I finally got someone who could help. I explained my story to the lady (the 4th person I got transferred to) and she said she will see what she could do. She then told me $60 was the best they can refund me. I was shocked because I paid $745 for the truck including fees, and the truck alone was $398. I was disgusted and told them thats unacceptable that I have to pay for a broken truck that was unsafe to leave the lot.
I told her I lost money because I had to freeze in a car for 2 hours in 28 degree weather, which made me miss the labor I hired (not through budget), that I paid for, and never got refunded for. And she checked again with her manager and said $100 is the best they could do. I told her I wanted corporates number and she said "you can only chose one, to have the $100 refunded, or get the corporate number." I told her "I think I am entitled to a full refund, but I think it's best for both parties if I get refunded for at least half." She then told me the same thing and said "I have to chose one of those options". This is my first experience with budget, and it will be my last. The appliance dolly we received couldn't be used either since the tie strap was almost torn off. I ended up having to take the truck in right away to get the headlight fixed but they wouldn't fix anything else since it would take too long and they were "busy."
After driving through two states one of the zip ties on the license plate broke off and when I called Budget's roadside assistance I was informed I'd have to take the truck to another repair area which added 3 more hours to the trip and over $20 in tolls. The mechanic at this Budget Rental area fixed the license plate, the people I talked to on the phone wanted them to just zip tie it back into place but the mechanic actually drilled two new holes in it and mounted it. When I returned the truck at our final destination the dealer was shocked at how bad the truck was and told me to call it in to get reimbursed. When I called in they said they would only reimburse the maintenance cost and nothing else and followed it up with a "Sorry for any inconveniences this might have caused".

Placed a complaint with Budget and all they could do was offer me a $20.00 credit, while hiding behind the fact they only take reservation but do not actually seem to hold or have the vehicles and good luck if you can get a truck type attitude. They ended up costing me an extra 120.00 because of their inability to do the right thing. Never would recommend them. Stay away from all Budget and Avis rentals as they are one on the same ownership.

Rented a truck on 12/6 to move on 12/26. On 12/23 the rental place (not Budget but a lot they do business with) called to say there’s no truck for 12/26. In fact he hasn’t seen a Budget truck for 3 weeks because they rented them all for Amazon, FedEx, and UPS for Christmas deliveries. If they knew they wouldn’t have any trucks why in the world would they agree to rent one, take credit card information, and send a confirmation email. Perhaps telling the truth would help. And if it hadn’t been for the non-budget employee calling me I would have shown up many miles away to find no truck.
When I spoke with their customer service the reply was “sometimes they are in a wreck” or “ not returned on time” and “there’s no guarantee as it says in the terms”. First, obviously this is BS as their entire fleet can’t be destroyed or misplaced. Second, it’s clear they know they have already rented them so who needs to know the terms and conditions written by their corporate lawyers to protect them? The fact is they just plain lie as is noted in many reviews above. Rent from Uhaul or any honest competitor but avoid these scammers at all costs.

Typically I would say my experience was ok but due to the fact I was charged a 30 dollar refuel fee even though I went to the gas station and filled the truck up to where the pump clicked it done. I was told you don’t go past when it clicks. Apparently it took another 20 to bring it to full. I don’t mind paying that but the 30 on top is ridiculous. Also when I dropped it off the place was closed. It took 29 mins to get the truck to shut down. The lights wouldn’t go off. I won’t go there again.

I reserved Budget Rental Truck two weeks in advance. I received an email stating that my reservation was ready. The day I went to pick up the truck with my mom, I came to the pickup location and there was no truck. I called customer service, and they attempted to locate another truck. After calling back hour after hour, I was told that that I would receive a call early the next morning, the day of my move. I received a call, and was told the nearest truck was two hours away one way in Chicago (I am moving from Milwaukee). There may be another truck closer by later that day.
As expected, I was livid as this had been set up weeks ago. I was told that I was to have confirmed the truck rental 48 hours prior to the day of rental. However, not a single email, nor anything during the reservation had stated this. In fine print, it says a truck is not guaranteed. I have never heard of a business model that asks for a reservation, but then does not provide the service. I will never use Budget Rental Truck again, and I will advise anyone I know that is moving to not use this company. I was able to locate a truck from U-Haul, and they had amazing customer service. They found me a truck, and I was able to move. If you require moving and you are doing it yourself, use U-Haul.

Awful experience....go with Penske (so much better). My truck was not available for some reason the morning that I needed it (after making a reservation). They sent me out of the way to pick up another, but then charged me twice as much (no one can tell me why). The truck was awful...headlights barely worked (dangerous), radio didn't work....loud. It was a deathtrap. Poor customer service....this company should be out of business.

I moved from upstate New York to Utah. The local U-Haul didn't have available equipment so I had to use Budget. Budget cost $700+ dollars more than Uhaul would have (in total I paid about $3600 for the rental - without hiring any movers). Expensive! During the cross-country move I had a concern about the truck and called the help number listed in the paperwork. There was no answer. Unresponsive!
During the move, the trailer hitch somehow suffered about $100 worth of damage. I had paid $250 for the Physical Damage Waiver which gives me $0 responsibility for any loss or damage. I pointed the damage out to the kindly manager when I returned the truck and he confirmed that I wouldn't be responsible for the repairs because I had the PDW. Five months later I get a bill from a collections agency, charging me for the repairs. Apparently there is a clause in the contract that invalidates all protections if the vehicle travels on a dirt road, even if briefly and unavoidably, as was my case (this clause was mixed in under the heading of racing the rental truck, strangely). And the groomed dirt road was not what caused the damage to the trailer hitch. Deceptive!
When I learned of the charges, I contacted customer service at Budget through email (I couldn't find any phone number to call) to ask them if they'd rather have the $100 or if they'd rather keep my business. It's been nearly a week and I have not received a reply. Unresponsive! The people I worked with in person, both in New York and Utah, were certainly nice enough, though. Having not heard back from Budget, I paid the $100 to the collections agency to hopefully avoid harm to my credit score. I am 40 years old and have moved more times than I have years of age. Moving truck rental companies stand to make thousands or tens of thousands of dollars off of me moving forward, but not Budget. Congratulations, Budget, you sold your birthright for a mess of pottage.

I looked at reviews here before and was worried but it was almost $1,000 cheaper than another company so I took a chance. Picking up the truck was no problem. The truck only had like 7k miles so there were no issues. I just think that when it works out great, who is going to take the time to leave a positive review, almost nobody. But if there are problems then everybody jumps to leave the review. That's normal of course, just keep that in mind though ;). One review said they don't guarantee the reservation. That would be concerning, so maybe I got lucky. If I use them again I will ask them if this is true.

I will never again use Budget Truck Rental for my business rental needs. I made reservations for 5 trucks to rent for a month. I gave them my payment information and she gave me 5 reservation numbers. The following day, I confirmed with the local representative, who confirmed that the reservations were in there and that they would have the trucks when I needed them. I called again the next week to again confirm, and the representative told me not to keep calling and that they would have the trucks when I needed them. I called the day before I was supposed to pick the trucks up and they said there were no trucks for me. I called the customer service number and the lady was extremely rude. I tried explaining my dilemma, and she kept speaking over me.
First she tried to say that I made an online reservation and that was why I wouldn't have the trucks. When I explained that I did not make an online reservation, but that I spoke to a representative over the phone, she then said that the fine print says that a reservation does not guarantee a truck. So why make a reservation in the first place?? I will never again use Budget truck for my company needs. I have had a great experience with Enterprise rental trucks.

He advised he was just a lot for pick up and drop off any arrangements go thru Budget. I called Budget customer service and was told a manager would call me within 2 hrs. 3 hours later no call back. I called again and 1 hr later I received a call that I could have a 12' truck if I drove from Charlotte to Winston Salem which would have been 86 miles and 1 hr and 45 minutes away. Otherwise they would just cancel my reservation. Just like that.
If I had not kept my commitment and cancelled less than 48 hours I would have still had to pay the entire cost, yet they can cancel with no monetary compensation. I then find out the reason they have no trucks... They rented them to UPS for their Christmas season deliveries.... with no regard for people that had confirmed rental agreements. I have already hired people to load and unload and I am now scrambling to find an available truck thru another agency, which I am sure I will have to pay a premium with such short notice.

They cancelled today the 14th through email the NIGHT I leave to drive and get the truck. They gave me 1 option of cover in $250 for a rental elsewhere when that won't even remotely make up for the cost elsewhere. We found that truck for 428 and 250 for the lowest local truck will still cost me at least half a grand more IF there is one available because even a week ago was difficult to locate a truck. Budget rent a truck is the worst of the. I had a confirmation booked order since Wednesday of this week. Today I went to pick up the truck on the Saturday at 8 in the morning as detailed in the instructions. When I got to the location the lines were horrific. We saw one truck outside of the parking lot thinking oh boy that's our truck. Although it appear to be bigger than what we had ordered. We had personally scheduled people to help us move today. Well that went out the window. Besides spending an hour in line when we got to the counter the young lady said, "Truck. Oh I don't know about trucks. We'll have to find somebody that knows about trucks. Wait here." 20 minutes later some guy shows up who is running back and forth. We had seen him and says, "Truck. We don't have a truck. We haven't had trucks in months. The one that's outside in our lot hasn't worked in months." Awful. Yes you heard me correctly. Hasn't worked in months.
So I call their customer service department I was told I would have to wait two hours to get on the phone with the supervisor. Meanwhile I call another rental company. When he finally called me and I told him I didn't need his services any longer. He said, "Oh okay. Find you went with a competitor." And I said, "Yes as you have ruined half of my day today. What are you going to do about that?" "There's nothing I can do," he said, "You went with a competitor." So I'm the bad guy here but yet you gave me a confirmation, had me wake up early to be there at 8 in the morning only to find out this location never has trucks available. He responded yep.
What kind of company and employees does this company have? Not even a "I am sorry." Not even "I apologize." Not even "Here's a credit." This has been the worst experience ever when it comes to renting a truck. Doesn't matter that you've done it in advance with a confirmation with a confirmation number or anything that doesn't matter to them. Nor the fact that they wasted half of my entire morning.

If I could give no stars to Budget I would. I had the worst experience of my life with Budget and I am still going through this nightmare almost two months later. First of all, they gave me a car dolly with bald tires and a nail in the tire. They actually let it off their property. I had to get the roadside assistance before I even started moving and the tire guy was actually surprised that they let the dolly go with such a bad tire. Second, the seat was broken exposing the bar underneath the driver's seat and they put a blanket on the seat to remedy the problem. I drove 24hrs with a bar on my backside. I was in serious pain for the next week.
Third, the Scion XB, that was on the car dolly almost fell off the dolly. We had to reset the car 3 times on the trip to Florida. We finally called to see if they could tell us what was wrong. The guy that met us in Mobile said that the car had to be up against the metal front. He didn't do anything to help he just verbally told me what was wrong. In the morning, after resetting the car for the fourth time, we discovered that his advice was wrong because the car shifted again on the final leg of the trip, yet now we have to pay for that because Budget made a claim. They said that the vehicle was damaged and sent us the bill for the guy doing nothing.
Fourth, when I dropped off the dolly the "not so nice man" at the drop off location insulted my ability to drive a dolly, because I couldn't back the dolly into a tight little spot down a long alley. As I said, this was the worst experience I have ever had. By the way, I spoke to a customer service rep and explained all this stuff and I never heard anything back. PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY. Look at the reviews. 2.2 is not good. Go with U-HAUL you will be much happier with your experience.

"BUDGET", SAYS NO ONE! I made a reservation in March for a 12 foot truck rental. I took a five hour bus ride to pick up the RESERVED rental. Upon arrival, Budget offered me a 26 ft, it was only truck on the lot. I was going to attempt it on the mountain roads I would need to navigate but being a small women, I could not reach the pedals. Stuck in Albany in nasty bus station on the phone for hours trying to resolve the issue. I was told I needed to cancel the reservation and make a new one to get a 12 ft truck. I did as instructed. Waited for a call back for an hour. In between I was still calling to troubleshoot, I knew I was being given inaccurate information. I was told to save my receipts and I would be reimbursed by two separate customer service representatives.
I knew it was a lie but I just wanted to resolve the issue and get on the road. In the litany of lies and phone calls to Budget and the abuse, I endured by the representative, VINCENT as well as being stranded in a strange city in an unsafe area. I am stuck here. Vincent from customer service, was horrible yelled at me, yelled over me, and would not listen. This was the amazingly deplorable inter-action I have ever had with any company or service department in my 55 years on earth. As they continued to promise to get me truck at 6:30 pm and I know all the lots are closed for pick ups in that area, then yelled at me again and said that they do not guarantee a truck with 2 hour advanced reservation.
As I tried to explain I actually made the reservation two weeks ago and was told to cancel and re make it. That is when Vincent decided yelling over me was the best way to handle this situation. I decided to end this ridiculous, abusive, unproductive and expensive relationship with Budget. I sucked it up, and was grateful I had brought a toothbrush. My budget now over 400.00 more than estimated due to taxis and a hotel room and food. I called Penske at 630 pm, OMG, thank you PENSKE. I made the reservation in less than ten minutes for a 12 ft truck for the next day. I paid about 150.00 more for the rental, no hassles, they did not leave me stranded in a horrible part of town.
The pick up office was clean, the Truck was clean, the staff was amazing. Unlike BUDGET, the Budget pick up location office barely had an office, no waiting room and was surrounded by abandoned buildings and homeless people. Moving is stressful. Budget doesn't care about you or your moving issues. GO to anyone else. Budget's customer service people will treat you like crap, the equivalent to a bill collector disposition. Like they are doing you a favor by answering the phone. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

One of the worst experiences of my life. Next time I’ll definitely pay the difference for a Uhaul or even a Penske truck. First of all, I booked the reservation nearly 2 months in advance using the main website for a move from PA to GA. Come the day of my pickup (Sunday October 13), I realize the place I’m supposed to pick up the truck from isn’t even OPEN on Sundays. So why did the site allow me to book it on a Sunday!?!
I call the 800 number and am told “I’m sorry but I can’t sympathize with you” and the best they can do is have a manager call me “maybe tomorrow before 9”. And that I would have to drive to the next nearest location (nearly 60 miles away). After about ten minutes of repeated responses and zero sympathy, I asked the guy if he’d humor me and at least PRETEND to give a **.
Anyways, I tried calling the pickup location which was closed, and I seriously lucked out because the guy happened to be in the shop to grab some paperwork or something right when I decided I’d try calling for the heck of it. So the guy tells me he can’t help me because he is going to be leaving for church and I’m quote “messing with God’s time”.... So after telling me he can’t help, he calls back a few minutes later and says if I can get there in 15 minutes that he’d help me. I don’t have a car mind you, which made the whole “picking up a car at the next nearest location” impossible, and was relying on a friend to get me to the destination.
We get there and the guy is a complete jerk, making prejudice statements and stereotyping women. He made it very clear how much I was inconveniencing him, and the entire experience was bs. The truck drove HORRIBLY and handled like crap. Anything over 70 mph and the steering wheel shook. Moving is stressful enough as it is, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY FOR LITERALLY AAAANYTHING OTHER THAN A BUDGET TRUCK.

Worst experience ever and never have gone back to Budget since then. Since we move every year, they lost $$$ from repeat business. They are a horrible company and should not be in business. Here is what happened: I reserved a 12 feet truck over 6 weeks in advance of my move. Made my reservations over the web on 10/11/2016, and received an email confirmation. A few days before my move I received another email confirming my reservation. I placed a call into Budget Truck Rental on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 to confirm truck availability. Made all the necessary arrangements including movers, airfare, hotel, and car rental. I flew in from Houston, TX to Phoenix, AZ to begin the move on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016. I was utterly shocked and stunned that my move was made surrounded with the availability of a truck and Larry from Budget contacted me 2 1/2 hours before that Budget didn’t have a truck and there was nothing he can do about it.
Still shocked to hear this, I drove to the Budget site to be told by Alan that no truck has become available. He informed me it's normal practice to give preference to corporations over individual customers. An example he stated is that if a truck becomes available and Budget calls me and I am heading over to pick up, while at the same time someone from FedEx stops in, he has the right to give the truck to Fedex, regardless if I have a reservation and Fedex doesn't. This is how the truck rental business works. What is the purpose of making a reservation if they can’t guarantee having a truck available and contacting me couple hours before picking it up ???
This experience has caused a tremendous amount stress, additional aggravation, wasted time, and money. I ended up going to a reliable company PENSKE, spending more money on a truck, spending more money on movers, and wasted time because of Budget poor business practice. Budget did nothing to compensate for the stress, money, and loss of time. Budget lost me as a customer. Not only did it lose me as a customer, I will inform my employer to blacklist Budget Rental. Their business practice made them lose thousands of dollars and the company I work for removed them from their vendor list. Hope Budget Truck Rental goes out of business!

I have moved many times and usually use U-Haul. This time I chose Budget because they offered an unlimited mileage package. Big mistake. I reserved a 12-ft truck and when I got to the office I received a 16-ft truck. Way too big for the amount of stuff I was moving. But according to Mike in Inver Grove Heights MN, they do this ALL THE TIME. And if I'd like, he said, I could always cancel it. Funny guy. I received the truck at 3/4 full of gas and when I returned it that way, I was charged $50 for them to fill it up, even though I didn't receive it that way. Still fighting that one. I continue to have charges from Budget show up on my debit card without notice or explanation.
The "3-passenger" front seat is a joke, a danger and a misleading comment. There aren't 3 seats. There's two big seats, one for the driver and one for the passenger. The middle seat is a jump seat. The seat itself is on spring action. If whatever is sitting there is heavy enough, it'll sit flat. The back of the seat is in a forward position so if a human being is sitting in that seat, they are bent forward at an angle. Yeah, that's really comfortable. No way to move it back at all. So no, it's not a 3-passenger front seat at all. The truck is a gas hog. And since it was a 16-foot truck, that makes a difference.
My belongings were strewn around the back of the truck because let's face it, when only half of it is full, there's plenty of room for things to move around back there, no matter how carefully you're driving. My communication with customer service has been less than satisfactory. As I said earlier, I did call to confirm the 12-foot truck and was told by Mike that it was there and ready to go. He said nothing about them switching me to a 16-foot truck. Had he said something at that time, I might have been able to go back to U-Haul and get a truck more the size I needed. I don't know if he's being honest about how full the gas tank was because customer service hasn't communicated to me whether they've talked to him.
The customer service rep I've been in touch with wants me to send ALL my gas receipts because from that they can figure out how much gas was in the truck when I got it. Hmmm. Oh did I say ALL OF MY ORIGINAL RECEIPTS. This company is so customer UN-friendly that I'm a little shocked about it. When I asked about surveillance cameras (from the storage facility next door) to prove I parked the truck and returned keys on 8/31, I couldn't get any help on that end.
Budget is saying that I have been legitimately charged an extra 142.59 for turning in the truck on Sunday 9/1 (after I was told I could keep it until Tuesday 9/3) and customer service actually hung up on me twice. Anyone else moving should really consider just paying the extra money because it will end up costing you extra in some capacity if you use Budget rentals. This company is truly horrible and unprofessional.

Red flags started immediately. We had an appointment to pick up our truck at 1300 and we’re on a tight schedule. While there were multiple people in the building, apparently only one person could rent us the truck and trailer, and he was at lunch and wouldn’t be back until after 1330. We were finally able to rent the truck at 1500. During check out and explanation of charges, he said he hadn’t known about how bad the extra charges were if you brought the truck back late without calling. Upon damage inspection, there were a number of large scratches all around the the truck. The trailer wheel hubs were bent and cracked, but didn’t spear to be touching the tires.
After we loaded the truck and hit the road, it became apparent very quickly that none of the wheels were balanced or aligned. The trailer would pull one way and the truck the other causing the beginnings of “death wobble”. If we drove over 65, the engine sounded as if it was metal on metal scraping, so we couldn’t even drive the speed limit the majority of the time. Our 12 hour driving day became a 17 hour driving day. We checked the trailer tires multiple times and it seemed to be losing pressure, but ok the first day of our trip from KC to Vermont. The next morning, one of the trailer tires had lost enough air to need to call budget for roadside service.
We called the 800 number as instructed. We needed them to fix the flat and give us an extra day with the rental as the amount of time to get service was going to knock us a day off schedule. They said Goodyear would be out in 1.5 hours to change the tire. (AAA couldn’t change the tire on the trailer with my boyfriends membership.) Customer service said they couldn’t change the contract and we’d have to call our origin or destination of the rental to get the contract changed. Both the origin and destination said they couldn’t do this and we needed to call customer service. When we said we had been directed by CS to call them, both said they’d call their “boss” and get back to us. So far crickets. It’s been an hour and a half and we are definitely not making our destination today. It’s another 10 hour day in a regular car. Most likely with this death trap, it will be 13 if they actually come and fix it.

I reserved a truck to move my son to college three weeks in advance and received my confirmation. I was to pick up the truck at 4:00. At 1:20 they left a voicemail on my phone stating that "unfortunately" the truck that I had reserved was not going to be available. "Hopefully" one of their competitors would be able to help me. There was never an apology, never an offer for assistance, never an offer of compensation. They did leave me the customer service number. As I was left to scramble for a truck at the last minute during one of the biggest college move in weekends in the Midwest, I did not call them at the time. I was able to book a truck with one of their competitors.
Two weeks later I opened my credit card statement to discover that Budget had charged me a $75 no pick up fee. This time I did contact the customer service number and I discovered that they actually have a number on their menu dedicated to "If you have been contacted about your truck availability" obviously this is a regular problem. They did refund the $75 no pick up fee. I would recommend that you follow their own advice and use one of their competitors.

My 13 year old daughter, 3 parrots and 2 cats were driving from Indiana to South Florida. At 05:30am on August 4th we noted smoke from the trailer. The truck wouldn’t go above 35 or stay running. We could not run the AC for longer than 5 minute intervals as the service engine light was on and the truck would shut off. The first service guy was from Goodyear, left us an empty tire and said he ‘didn’t know how’ to change tires. He arrived at 9am despite the promise from Budget of help by 7am. Budget kept promising someone would come help in a ‘half hour.’ It was 88 degrees. We had no water as we drank what we had. Budget knew we had no water, were in a truck that wouldn’t run, and had animals.
Finally at 1:45pm help arrived. The fender of the trailer had to be cut off as it was rubbing the tire and could cause the tire to blow. The repairman made the truck go to the nearest exit to complete the repair as we were in an unsafe location for anyone to work on the truck. My Husband drove from South Florida and arrived at the same time Budget’s help arrived. Aliyah at the location we rented the truck from said we would be reimbursed ‘gas, lost wages and full cost of truck.’ We have not been reimbursed. Company transfers you to multiple people and none are helpful. Stay away!

I reserved a truck at another Budget location to cover my bases, I didn't want to wait until morning to see if I could get a truck. I went to pick up the truck from my second reservation and they didn't have a truck either. It is still 2 hours after my pick up time was scheduled and I still have not received a call from Budget?! How can I have 2 reservations, but NO TRUCK. I am very disappointed and upset from the lack of service Budget gave me. I would say the 4.4 star review from Google is not accurate. I had people waiting to help with this move. Everyone's plans were changed and Budget did not care at all that this was cancelled. Luckily U-Haul had a truck to rent and a decent rate with good customer service. Very poor customer service and I will never rent from them again!

I made a reservation a one way unlimited truck for August 3 for 10am. I went to pick up my truck. The location they gave did not even rent trucks. I had to ride and find another location. By the time custom service called back they said they had another location but it closed closing at noon. That gave me 25 minutes to travel to a place that was 43 minutes away. I found another location that was closed in my city and when to the my original location and told them they had a truck. They got the keys from the other location and rented me the truck. I returned the truck and they only refunded $26 of my $150 deposit. I called customer service that day August 6 and they said they fixed the problem and it would take 3-5 days.
I received the $26 to my bank but not the other $125. I called and spoke with someone who said he was a manager (Mike badge **) who was very rude. He said that it could take 5-7 days from August 4 which would be the 13th of August. (Clearly he can’t count) I told him that it was not acceptable and he said “Well we're not getting anywhere. I’m putting you on hold” and left me there for over 3 hours until I finally hung up. I now have called back and asked for the manager and am told there is not one there at this time. Save yourself the trouble don’t rent from them. It is not worth the $15 you would save.

The guy was simply roaming near the area. And this guy is the worst person to be at that place. The rudest person I have ever met. He disagreed with all the things. The truck that we got was full of mosquitoes as the spillage from the last customer was never cleaned. My fiance got sick with the driving whole time with the insects inside the truck. The night before the move and 30 minutes before the offices closed, I was called and told that there would be no truck available for my move the next morning and to call the 800 number for assistance. They said that the person who was supposed to drop-off the truck at my pickup location had brought the truck to a different state. From that night into the next morning/afternoon, I called back and forth 7 plus times, waited nearly 8 hours because I had to wait for the Inventory Manager.
He eventually called and said, very shortly, that they never guaranteed me a truck--just the rate, my reservation was canceled, no trucks available, and then hung up. Now I have wasted time taking off of work as well as the people I asked to help with the move and I have to pay double getting a truck from a different place. DO NOT RENT from them, it is not worth the stress. I wish I could give no or negative stars on this review.

On May 21st, my son and I arrived at the rental location in Denville, NJ at the hardware store to pick up a previously reserved 26' box truck for a one-day rental. We needed to be in the Boston area that day for a pickup and back that evening. Our time was not flexible. The gentleman(?) at the location nonchalantly stated that a 26' truck had not come in and that he couldn't help us. That in fact, he hadn't been expecting a 26' truck to come in at all. He only had one smaller truck that was not adequate for our needs. I asked why I wasn't contacted so that we could have made other arrangements and he said that's not the way it works. He frankly didn't care what our situation was.
With enough pressuring, he finally agreed to call around and eventually found a 26' truck in Netcong, about 14 miles away. That was the poor part of our experience with Budget Truck Rental. Now let's discuss the young women at the Netcong location. Friendly, helpful and very courteous. She had the truck ready, gassed up and with adequate DEF to make the 500 miles round trip. With lost more than an hour in the confusion but made it to Boston and back almost on schedule. That was the good part of our experience with Budget Truck Rental. Maybe the guy in Denville could take lessons from the young woman in Netcong?

Budget's utter incompetence will likely cost us the movers we scheduled to load/unload the truck, delay our 10 hour drive significantly, and waste our time. Between problems with trucks not being available at pick when reserved far in advance or having to change pick up locations due to availability the day before pick up and a broken seat that made the 1000 mile move terribly uncomfortable, I already had made up my mind not to rent from them again. That was before a damage claim of $1200! I am not a diesel vehicle driver, I didn’t know what def was and it was never explained to me. You would think this would be covered somewhere because I am sure a lot of people renting those vehicles are not aware of it. Before we reached our destination a light came indicating that we needed to refill the def tank. So we stopped at a filling station, selected a def pump and filled it. Turns out to wasn’t def, it was diesel, and now we have to pay to have the tank emptied and cleaned out.
When we dropped the truck off and this was discovered we were told that the truck never should have been rented to us low enough on def that we would have to worry about filling it. It was negligent on the place we rented it from. I spoke with claims service and explained this, they said they would note it on the claim. I asked if that means the claim is going to be reviewed again? She told me no, it’s already been review, the wrong fuel was in the tank. Don’t risk the chance of being set up for failure with no opportunity to defend yourself. Don’t rent from Budget, it’s not worth the savings you get initially.

I arrived at 8 am when the website said they were open and when my reservation was to begin, but they weren't open. They finally showed up and told me they didn't open until 9, and that was the best thing about my reservation. Then they told me they didn't have my truck because the person who was supposed to turn in the truck the night before asked to keep it another day. They said they left me a voice mail message but I opened my phone and showed them I did not receive a message. Maybe they dialed wrong but they certainly didn't call me. I was told I would have to call customer service.
They honestly couldn't have cared less and it was my problem not theirs. OK, I called customer service and was told someone would call me back within 2 hours. When I received the call back I was told that Budge just send me a cancellation email because they didn't have any trucks available within 50 miles until Tuesday. This was Saturday morning-moving day. The customer care rep couldn't have cared less either. No apology, nothing helpful whatsoever. This was my first time renting anything through Budget and it will be my last.
This was a Saturday morning when everyone is moving. Where am I going to find a truck? I called Penske. They had a truck in the area, I got the truck and was able to make the move, although with a MUCH later start and I had to make two trips because it was a smaller truck. Renting from Penske was a very smooth process and the reps were so nice and helpful; the complete opposite of Budget. Again, if I could give -5 stars for Budget I would. It wasn't just the fact they didn't have my truck or hadn't notified me, both reps at the rental location and customer service had the worst, I don't care about anyone or anything attitude.

I took possession of a rented truck on Saturday, 20 July 2019 at 11:52 am. I drove the vehicle to my home, six (6) miles away from rental office, and parked it in my driveway. At approximately 5:00 pm I opened the cargo area of the truck to begin loading my household goods (furniture, mattresses and boxes.) I then discovered that rain water had entered into the cargo area from rain which had been falling continuously for about 2 hours prior. The rain had entered from an apparent leak in the roof of the truck. The water/wet cargo bed created a potential hazard to the household goods I was about to move. As a result, I decided against loading my items on a wet floor in the truck.
I then returned the truck to the rental office at around 6:00 pm and left the key in the "after hours" drop box. The next day I went to the office and informed them about the water in the truck and my inability to use the truck to move my household goods. I was told to call the corporate office at 1-800-462-8343 to request a refund. I spoke to a customer service rep, Gabriel, and a manager, Michael, both of whom refused to issue me a refund.

The adventure began the evening of Friday June 7th, 2019 from McKinney, Texas. After over 11 straight hours of driving, the Budget Rental Truck we had been assigned, started showing signs of overheating, by way of the temperature gauge going higher than what the normal temp had been showing thus far. As a precaution, we decided to pull into the nearest gas station to let it rest. In addition, instead of having any issues stop us in the middle of the desert, we decided to stay the night in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The first thing in the morning (8am local time on 6/9/2019), after verifying all gauges on the truck looked back to normal, we jumped back on the road on our way to Las Vegas, Nevada. About 3 and a half hours into this second leg, the oil pressure gauge began to drop slowly, so we got off the highway and pulled into the nearest gas station to see what the problem was. Upon stepping out of the truck, we noticed that there was oil dripping from the driver side wheel well adjacent to the engine, oil had splattered on the driver side steps, oil had splattered all along the driver side of the truck the full length of the truck, oil had splattered on the vehicle trailer we were towing, and finally but definitely not least, oil had splattered all over our personal vehicle that we had been towing. When turning the truck back to the "on" position, the gauge for the oil pressure PSI read "0".
At 11:30 am (local time in Holbrook, Arizona) I called the Budget Truck Rental - Roadside Service number to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible, as we had a tight schedule to maintain. I was told by the operator that helped me, that I would be receiving a text message keeping me posted on the timeframe(s) of when to expect service to be provided. The first text message came through at 11:33 am with reference #**, stating that a local vendor was being "located and assigned shortly". At 12:21 pm I received a text message that ETA for the vendor assigned was 118 minutes (roughly 2-hours). By 2:30 pm I had yet to be contacted by anyone, so I called the vendor directly, to get a more accurate ETA. I was told that they were still an hour or so out from getting to us.
By 5:00 pm local time, the vendor finally showed up, took a look to verify that the oil had been drained out as we explained, took a look under the hood, filled up the truck with oil, and suggested we followed him back to his shop in Winslow, Arizona (41 miles west of our current location) for further examination. Once his in-depth examination concluded (roughly 6:30 pm local time in Winslow, Arizona), and after being reassured that there was nothing wrong with the Budget Rental Truck engine, we ventured out onto the highway once again.
After an hour on the road, and feeling immensely uncertain of how the rest of the drive would go, we stopped in Flagstaff, Arizona, for another unplanned overnight stay. Upon verifying that all gauges were once again in a normal position, and the oil PSI was double verified to be good, we hit the highway on what we hoped would be our final leg of this not-so-fun journey. Luckily we were able to arrive 4 hours after leaving Flagstaff, Arizona, without any issues.
Although arriving safe and sound, there were multiple issues that did not sit well with us...
1. having to needlessly spend the night at two separate hotels (on two separate nights)2. wasting over 5 and a half hours at a gas station helplessly waiting for road side service (in 100+ degree weather)
3. spending an additional hour at a tire shop waiting for the mechanic to tell us that there is nothing wrong with the Budget Rental Truck (when slight overheating and a "0" PSI would say otherwise)
4. spending money on getting our personal vehicle detailed as a result of the oil splattering from the Budget Rental Truck
5. the uncertainty of whether or not we'd be able to complete our cross country trek.
At the end of the day, the saying is very true...you get what you pay for. The better deal isn’t always the better plan.

Moving is already stressful... This experience just adds more to a full plate you may already have. I should have read the reviews and hope that people will read the reviews. I'm not going to bore you with the details as I was reading all the other reviews and I have had the same experience with renting months in advance just to be told that I would not have a rental the evening before my move out of state. My opinion is that they allow you to book and as I feel I did my due diligence in calling 2 weeks in advance and the morning of the day before my rental pick up they confirmed "YES" everything is on schedule, to hold you as the customer.
Once they call you to tell you there aren't any trucks available after all, you are forced to call around looking for a new rental where the price is outrageous!! So you are either forced to stick with them for a later date or book at an even higher rate. I ended up using them with a delay of 3 Days, loss of work wages as this move took me into the work week, as well as loss of money on the hired help to load. If I could give them negative five (-5) I would! We were charged $1250.00+ by Budget through Avis Car Rental after renting a box truck at Affordable Equipment Sales & Rentals in Hendersonville, NC and being provided an extremely dangerous and faulty truck that blew a tire, followed by the breaks and emergency breaks failing. It was terrifying, not to mention my fiancé hurt his back because of this, when told to try to “hop the truck” to the nearest hotel by a Budget representative, despite an automotive tech contracted with Budget explaining to Budget reps that there were no breaks or emergency breaks and the truck was not safe to drive! Yet Budget refused to assist us in getting to a hotel, and the only one that we could “hop to” and was in the immediate area had reviews of drug use, prostitution, being unsafe and guests having their doors banged on in the middle of the night by strangers.
We were stuck in a remote area of North Carolina for two days, almost all of our furniture and belongings were damaged by the movers that Budget finally sent (after much agony) to transfer our belongings to a functioning truck, many pieces in our family over 6 decades and irreplaceable, making it even worst was the fact they were all my late mother’s belongings who recently passed away. We were made to pay for our own hotel, all expenses, missed work, had to pay our dog sitter for additional days, as well as the movers we didn’t make it home in time for. We then had to pay for the movers to unload the truck again, having to wait until they were available again, as well as several additional charges throughout this nightmare, resulting in thousands.
Avis Car Rental, who is associated with Budget (AVIS BUDGET GROUP) has done absolutely nothing to resolve this and to top it off charged our card that we used only to hold the reservation, as well as my Father’s credit card who had paid for the truck rental... talk about double dipping! We have spent thousands of dollars, countless hours spent almost daily on this nightmare with no resolution. By far, we have experienced the worst customer service ever through Budget and Avis. The employees clearly have no interest other then collecting a paycheck and doing the bare minimum to obtain this. For a publicly traded company that answers to shareholders, we are absolutely shocked!
To sum this up, we returned the truck as provided to us, spoke with both an employee and the manager, having to make several calls and explaining all, making sure to reiterate the fact that Budget ensured us multiple times that we would not be charged, and refunded for our out of pocket expense through their Corporate Office. Despite this, we were not only charged, but charged significantly more and on the wrong card!
We called Affordable Equipment and Sales on several occasions only to be told that there was nothing they could do, even as we sat stranded for hours on the side of the road, which then turned it to being stranded overnight in a near deserted area. Once we were told the truck would have to be replaced and nobody knew when that would happen, we called Affordable Equipment and Sales back yet again asking that they extend the reservation until this was resolved and since we wouldn’t make it back now in time for the movers we hired to unload the truck, and had to not only pay for that but then rehire them for their first available but later date.
Keep in mind, we were directed to contact Affordable Equipment and Sales to accomplish the reservation extension at no charge by Budget Customer Service, yes, the same customer service that asked us to “hop” a 16’ box truck with no brakes or emergency brakes to the nearest “motel”. We were told by the Manager at Affordable Equipment and Sales that we needed to pay additional money to extend the truck rental despite all of the delays we were caused from the faulty dangerous truck they provided us, and what had unfolded because of their negligent and dangerous error.
When we realized nobody cared at all, from this third party rental establishment through Budget management, we agreed to pay since our hands were tied at that moment, at which point we were then told when offering yet another credit card, (which shouldn’t matter, because they clearly charge whichever card they want, or both in our case) “I actually can’t extend the reservation, you need to call Budget’s 1 800 number”. To add insult to injury, Affordable Equipment Sales and Service provided the incorrect credit card to be charged, resulting in our card being charged that was only suppose to hold the reservation. In addition, they also provided the card that was provided for payment to be charged too, so both were provided to our drop off location (Avis in Princeton, NJ) BEWARE & BE SAFE!

I reserved my Budget Truck a month before the pick-up date. We received all of the update emails about our truck being ready for pick-up. On the day of pick-up I receive a call from the store manager stating that my truck wasn't there and that I would need to find another company. He didn't offer me any other trucks, just said good luck. I was obviously upset because I planned on moving my family 600 miles away. I called Budget's customer service to have this remedied and I was told they would call me back in 2 hours and never called back. I called the customer service again and talked to a csr that was rude and said that this is normal and that I should've had a backup plan. That customer service rep hung up on me. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU ARE DOING ANY BUSINESS. ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE MOVING OUT OF STATE.

Scheduled a 26' truck months in advance, got a call within 5 days before the move and said they had no trucks. Talked to customer support and Inventory Control out of Denver and no luck with finding a truck. I was also asked if I had a Plan B just in case they had no trucks, (now that just silly). Budget help out your employees and don't overbook truck or buy more. It's the middle of summer, now we have to scramble last minute to find a truck that is now triple the price.

Horrible customer service and faulty trucks. I moved 1300 miles away and had to use two different trucks. First one had a broken doghouse so hot air from the engine burning on your Accelerator foot. Return that one, was given a second truck. When I hit heavy rain the cabin leaked down my passengers in my back. When unloading the truck my merchandise was wet in the back. All I got was "I’m sorry" and $68 refund. They do not seem to take pride in their merchandise or in satisfying their customers. I will not stop spreading the word of how horrible this company has treated me until I am fully compensated or get the word out to everyone I possibly can!

I book 16 foot truck 2 weeks early than moving date and I have reserved hand truck as well. But at the time of pickup, they don't have availability of hand truck. I end up searching hand truck somewhere else and it took me 2 more hours. I end up paying additional waiting charges to moving helpers. I conveyed same to Budget customer service and they offered me 5 dollar refund. It's really nuts. There are lot other hidden charges and insurance also very expensive. I would not recommend this to anybody.

This review is for the National Company Budget Truck Rental for our move from Germantown, TN to Asheville, NC. We made our reservations for two 26’ trucks plus a car trailer on 5/29/2019 with a scheduled pick up day of 6/19/2019. We booked these trucks 3 weeks ahead of time, knowing it was to be a busy time of year for truck rentals. Two days before our scheduled pick-up date, Sean from Budget Truck Operations left me a voicemail stating they were going to cancel our reservations because they were having a problem with trucks in that market! I called him back right away but they had already canceled our reservations without ever speaking to me.
I guess he was trying to make me feel better by saying we were not the only people he had to call to cancel their reservation, stating he had a bunch of other people to call with the same news. I told him that didn’t make me feel better, it made me feel worse because they didn’t just overbook by a couple of trucks, they overbooked by a bunch! He also said our “reservation” did not guarantee us the equipment, it just guaranteed us the price! I told him that is ridicules, what good does a price guarantee do me if they don’t have the equipment to rent me?
After getting nowhere with Sean, I asked him to have his manager or supervisor call me because this was completely unacceptable. Awhile later someone else with Budget called and told me Sean had been correct in cancelling our reservations, and told me the same things he had told me. I explained this was two days before a big move with moving crews lined up at both ends and canceling on us just two days before the move was putting us in a very difficult position. I asked if they could drive trucks in from another location or have us pick-up from somewhere else?
Both of them told me they didn’t have a single truck available within 300 or even 400 miles of our rental location. Neither of them offered compensation or assistance of any kind for the predicament they were putting us in. I have rented a lot of trucks and cars in my lifetime and this was by far the worst experience ever, I will never use Budget again! Fortunately for us we were able to scramble and find the equipment we needed with Penske Truck Rental! Penske was fantastic, great equipment, and excellent customer service. I highly recommend them!

If I could give this company negative stars, I would. My husband and I reserved the truck weeks in advance. We reserved a 16 foot truck. Of course, when we arrived, they only had 12 foot truck available. I don't care what their contract says, it is unacceptable. I was then told, I can't be reimbursed until I return the truck. So despite our planning, we of course, couldn't fit everything in the 12 foot truck. We traveled 8 hours to drop off our items and returned the truck as scheduled.
We now call to explain our situation which is now extending our lease 4 days totaling $457, driving an additional 16 hours, missing at least a day of work at our new jobs (that's if we drive 16 hours and pack the remaining items in the same day). They would only comp us $40. When I asked to speak to the manager, Adrian the so called "head of corporate escalation team" was rude, disrespectful and claimed she was the highest we could go. I managed to find the corporate number and turns out she has a boss. My husband and I are actively calling everyone including the president of the company. I will NEVER use them again. I will ensure that NO ONE I know uses them. They are terrible! THE WORST COMPANY EVER!

We rented a truck and car carrier 6 weeks before a cross country move and were assured it would work with our car make and model, both by using the online tool and by calling customer service to confirm. Day of the move, our car didn't fit on the carrier, and after multiple confusing phone calls with customer service we had to leave our car behind. During these phone calls the day we picked up the truck, customer service finally told us the car wouldn't fit - despite conflicting information from previous Budget reps and Budget's website. Because we found this out the day of the move, we weren't able to make any other arrangements, and were forced to leave our car for several weeks in the Midwest. If we would have known the car didn't fit on the carrier when booking, we never would have moved forward with using Budget.
Customer service was absolutely useless in trying to find a solution for us during our issues, and was unwilling to compensate us for the additional cost of another cross country drive with our personal vehicle. They offered us $90 total for compensation, which doesn't come close to what we'll spend on additional moving costs (plane tickets, double gas, wear and tear on vehicle, time missed from work, etc) solely due to Budget's errors. I would never recommend using Budget if you are moving - they are not reliable, responsible, or willing to fix their mistakes.

My mother in law, myself, my fiancé and my sister and her husband were all at this location to pick up two 26 foot trucks and a car trailer that had been verified Friday. When we arrived, the employee Cynthia stated that they did not have both trucks and that the trailer was broken and could not be used...This is what transpired after we initially walked up to the location at 7:30am. Here is how it started....
Issue one: We as a group and specifically Dr. Beverlee ** of The Jasmine Charitable Trust, were not allowed into the Budget Truck Rental on Warwick Blvd in Newport News at 7:30am on June 17th 2019, with Service Dog Nora, who is for stability and other medical alerts for Dr. Beverlee. The employee Cynthia’s exact quote was “Uhuh I don’t like dogs.” Dr. Beverlee **, informed her it was a service dog and that she was allowed anywhere in buildings legally under federal law and the woman still refused us entry. So a disabled woman was sitting on the front concrete stairs of BUDGET TRUCK RENTAL on Warwick Blvd in Newport News for over 2 hours in the heat because of ignorance and idiocy.
Second issue: The “Boss” Jennings was horrifically rude to not only my mother in law but to the rest of our group. He asked my fiancé, who is disabled and my brother in law who is also disabled to help him unhitch the broken car trailer by hand with no jacks or anything from the truck. I was sitting on the concrete steps outside because he wouldn’t allow us in with the service dog, see issue above, and my response was “No, you are not going to make two disabled men lift that trailer” to which Jennings replied in the most horrifically rude tone “I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to her” referring to my mother in law. This sparked a reply of “You will not talk to me that way” by me and my fiancé stating that his attitude was out of line. He continues to berate me and my mother in law with rude comments to which I stand up two steps below him and he proceeds to yell at me “I am the boss” and points to his shirt and gets really close to me.
He was aggressively leaning over me on the top step and was inches from my face when I tell him to “Get the hell out of my face” to which he gets more physically aggressive and steps closer and continuing to yell that he was the boss and no one was going to tell him what to do. My Fiancé told him to back off and for me to walk away so I didn’t get hurt so I did and Jennings final remark to me was “Yeah that's right walk away, you better do what he says” in a mocking and belittling tone. I walked away and sat in my car due to my upset.
This was one of the most unprofessional and disgusting displays of management I have ever seen in my life. This owner Jennings should NEVER be allowed to interact with any customers. I will be filing a report to the ADA about how he denied a service animal and caused an elderly disabled woman to sit on concrete stairs outside in the heat for 2 hours. I also will be contacting corporate about his aggressive and inappropriate actions. Please SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

This has been the worst moving experience all thanks to Budget. We had our truck and trailer hitch reserved months in advance for an across country move. The morning we went to pick our truck and trailer up there was a truck with no trailer. When we contacted Budget they saw that we had a trailer booked but gave us no explanation for why it was not there. We were told we could not take the truck and begin loading a grab a trailer elsewhere and that we would have to wait while they found us a truck that came with a trailer.
After 4 hours of waiting and calling, nothing was resolved, Budget was incredibly rude, and we ended up having to go get the same truck we tried to pick up 4 hours earlier then drive another hour out of the way to get a trailer! They would not even give us a little compensation or discount even though they caused us an incredible amount of stress and a total of 6 hours delay in our trip! Other truck companies were all booked or we would have canceled with Budget. They took advantage of this situation. Do not ever use this company.
