I was told that the rate for my truck was $39.99 plus mileage and I was charged the following: [a] Cost Recovery Fee, [b] Energy Recovery Fee, [c] Drop off Fee, and [d] Late Return fee which I had already had made arrangements with the company that I was going to keep the truck for an additional day. My final bill was $168.94. I suggest to find a different company to rent a truck. This company lost a client and many others that I could have recommended. In my opinion a very bad/dishonest way of doing business.

Budget knows how to take a reservation but do not know how keep a reservation. Morning of pickup I get a call that they do not have a truck for my move. This is after a two+ week reservation. This appears to be normal practice from Budget by the number of reviews that have similar issues. Main thing is 40% off of nothing is still nothing. Should have just gone to U-Haul or Penske to begin with, Both of them found me trucks within an hour and had it delivered to my location. This would not have been so bad but the sales rep behind the counter could have cared less, whereas U-Haul got on-line and found a truck before I even asked. Now that's customer service.

I needed to move my elderly parents, 84 yrs and 80 yrs, from Northern California to Southern California on 6/28/2017. I compared UHaul and Budget and went with Budget 16' since it was slightly cheaper at $378 for 3 days and 480 miles. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE! Basically, when you make a "reservation" with Budget Trucks, it means nothing. For other companies, when you make a car rental reservation, they save that car for you. Can you imagine reserving a hotel room and show up the day of and find that there is no room "reserved" for you? Or making a reservation at a restaurant to celebrate and show up and there's no table for you? BUDGET DOESN'T RESERVE A TRUCK FOR YOU BASED ON YOUR RESERVATION. Their call center is making all the truck reservations with very attractive prices, but they do not link those reservations to a vehicle. What a terrible way to run a business! They ruin people's lives with no regards to consequences.
When I showed up on 6/26 to pick up the truck, they didn't have a 16' available, but the on-site agent said that he was expecting four to arrive the next day 6/27, he did have some 12' though, but I didn't take it because I needed more cargo space. The next day I called and he said the four 16' trucks didn't arrive and he only had one 12' truck. I asked him to save that for me while I drive there to pick it up. When I called back, he said that he got yelled at by his manager for "promising" this 12' truck to me and he had to give it up. WHAT?
Here I am, trying to move my elderly parents who were already extremely stressed out about the move and now I wasn't going to get the truck that I reserved two weeks prior? The agent at this San Jose, CA location said that he had to cancel 500+ reservations the previous Friday. 500+? Are you kidding me? Budget made that many reservations and didn't have any trucks for them. What a scam! What unethical and thoughtless business practices!
I had to scramble around, calling UHaul (not available), moving companies (over $1000+), and finally found a truck with Penske (which, by the way, I highly recommend!). I wished I had read reviews about Budget Truck rental prior to this whole experience. What they do is ruin people's lives and they should be ashamed of themselves. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM BUDGET TRUCK RENTAL! They entice you with a lower rental price, but they have no trucks to fulfill those reservations. Moving is already so stressful, the last you need to worry about is trying to find a moving truck at the last minute.

Confirmed reservation over a week in advance, re-confirmed less than 48 hours before pickup. Got a call the next morning saying the equipment I had 'reserved' (24' truck) was sold out and that they didn't have the size under either but only pickup trucks. Cancelling the reservation was also a nightmare. Budget proved to be the single worst company I've ever attempted to be a customer of. If you've had similar experience, please contact your State Attorney's office.

This is an absolutely horrible company. They never have the truck size you request and once they never even called to tell me. And the second time they made my pick up location 30 minutes away from my original reservation. I tried calling to get my new reservation and I got hung up on. Then the corporate phone number could use their computers because the system was down. This is the absolute worst company I have ever had to use.

We reserved a truck and car two weeks ago and we're supposed to pick it up at 8 am today. 30 minutes before we were supposed to pick the thing up Budget calls us and says our truck broke down, but don't worry, because they're going to get us another one TODAY - just wait for a call back that will take 15 minutes to 2 hours! Mind you, our utilities are getting shut off today, and the realtor is supposed to be in here to take pictures of an empty house this afternoon!
So, we get a second call about an hour later and they're like "how far are you willing to drive?" Well, considering I already had to go over 2 cities to pick up this truck, not that far! These trucks eat gas, so driving tons of extra miles isn't cost effective! They say we can either wait 2 days for a truck or drive 2 hours away (one way!) to pick one up! That's not even close to reasonable! And, there was no extra discount or free days on the truck for having to go that far to get it!
The guy was like, "oh, too bad then," and says goodbye. Too bad, so sad, "**" our loyal, repeat business customer! Not even an apology for THEIR huge screw-up because they REFUSE to maintain their trucks until they're broken down on the side of the road! So, here I am with a house full of people trying to help us move, utilities shutting off any time now, an irritated realtor, and three kids who have no food in the house. All because Budget Trucks can't function as a business! Do the world and yourself a favor, do not deal with this company and make them go under!

I booked a truck online plenty of time in advance. Hired some people to help me move and show up on time to pick up rental. The person said, "oh sorry... No one called you? We don't have any trucks." Couldn't find another company with such short notice so their mistake cost me over double what the rental would have. To top it off they charged me a $50 no show fee?!? When I called the store then customer service no one seemed to care.

I placed a rental request from your company for May 27, 2017 for a 24' moving truck. We went to the Lawrence, KS store at 8 am to pickup our truck and the employee, Zack told us that we were lucky to have a truck that day. He told us that he had several reservations that day that didn't have trucks available and it was going to be a bad day. He started our paperwork and then told us that our truck was not going to be available and that we were out of luck and "that's just the way it goes". I, of course, was very upset. He told me that the only thing he could do was offer me a 16' truck. I was extremely disappointed, but we would make it work. He continued my paperwork and then told me I wasn't allowed to have that truck because it belonged to someone else/he didn't know where the keys were. He could offer me one 12' truck.
I was appalled at that point and couldn't believe my ears. He was so incredibly blasé about it and could not care less. I was sitting there with my three small children, my husband and another couple in my same situation. I asked if it were possible to get two 12' trucks. He told me over and over that that wasn't a possibility. I asked him to call his manager (Drew **) and Drew answered once and then stopped answering his phone. He called another manager, Avery, in Kansas City and he swore to me that nothing could be done and this was a simple case of overbooking. We received no notice of the overbooking and never had a chance to go with another provider. During the three and a half hours I was stuck at your location with nothing being done, I was threatened to have the cops called on me and remove me from the building - in front of my five, three and 8-month old children.
FINALLY, Zack told me I could have two trucks if I would leave. I agreed to rent another truck and that I could call customer service upon return of the truck and have the charges dropped from my rental. We had a four bedroom house and several large items to move with these two tiny trucks with no ramp. It was seriously difficult to say the least. I called the customer service number on my way to return the trucks (after refueling them) and was told they could do nothing. Talk about being furious. I couldn't believe my ears. Here is what I have been charged so far:: 12' truck rental - $150, 12' truck rental - $150, fuel from taking multiple trips back and forth - $184.47, two random charges taken out two and a half weeks later - $340.82 & $163.79. This truck rental has cost me (so far) - $989.08. This is robbery. Money is being withdrawn from my account with no explanation.

Let me start by saying from pickup to drop off it was a HORRIBLE experience. I arrived to pick up my truck and carport and to my surprise, the carport was broken. I had to wait an entire day for a different one because they didn't have another one available. This was a MAJOR problem being that I was moving out of state and was on a time crunch. I had to wait an extra day before I could even leave, very inconvenient. While on the road maybe 5 hours out from my destination the carport broke off the truck. I had to call the police and they called a local tow company that assisted me with safely getting me and my children off the road safely. Meanwhile, my children and I sat in the truck for over 6 hours waiting for the carport to be fixed. Once it was finally fixed we got back on the road.
When it was time to drop off the truck I went to the drop off location only to get there and couldn't get my truck off the carport because the Budget guy rigged the truck to stay on the carport. The guy who worked wouldn't offer any assistance to take the car off the carport. I called the headquarters and they told me it would be over an hour before they could send assistance. After being outside for about 20-30 minutes the guy who works there comes out and he couldn't even get it off the carport. He had to use chain cutters to get my car off the carport. Then just recently I was charged by Budget AGAIN for a toll road fee. I called to find out why and the representative stated that I was in Rosemont, Illinois going through a toll there on May 2. Which is insane because I was in Virginia May 2 paying a toll there. And this resulted as a result of them changing my carport last minute. I WILL NEVER IN LIFE USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN! EVER!!! Horrible business!!

Allow me to first state that I rarely, if ever, submit complaints concerning customer service. However, my recent encounter with multiple Budget employees led to perhaps one of the worst customer services experiences I have ever had. In a nutshell, it was terrible, terrible service. I rented a 20 foot truck for a one-way move from Louisiana to Tennessee. I picked up my truck in Mandeville, LA (Causeway location). To begin with, the person manning the store wasn't even there when I arrived. Although there was a sign on the door saying they would return in 15 minutes, it was more like 40. I wasn't greeted or welcomed, simply just asked, "Do you have a truck reservation? Which one?" At this point, he informs me that he had another truck ready but, since someone just dropped off another one, he was just going to give me that truck.
He spends 40 minutes entering information into the system. During the process, he asks me if I would like insurance, which I decline. At this point, he simply gets up from his desk, opens a drawer, pulls out a form, and slaps it in front of me. Without an explanation, he goes back to his computer to continue entering information. The form was an insurance waiver form which required proof of insurance for certain coverages, which I don't have with me because I'm not aware that I needed them. So, of course, I have no choice but to purchase coverage. All during this time, the man does not speak to me or the people with me. I felt both scammed and frustrated by his very obvious lack service.
He then takes us to the truck. As he mentioned, it was just dropped off, which is evident because it HAS NOT BEEN cleaned! And it smells terrible. He tries, at this point, to be friendly but, honestly, it's just too late. By this time, its been over an hour. I take the truck because I do not have another 45 minutes to spend getting another truck. He does tell me to leave the key and paperwork in the truck and to lock the doors when I drop it off.
When I arrive in Nashville, I discover that the box truck is leaking. I drop off the truck at the designated location (B and C Rental, off Donelson), leaving the items where the man told me. It's Sunday, so no one is at the location. On Monday, at 12:50pm, I get a nasty vmail from the woman at the drop off location stating: "You didn't leave the keys or the paperwork in the key drop. You're going to have to come here today and bring that in." I try calling back NINE times. No one answers. And there isn't a vmail option.
I call customer service to see if they can help: they tell me all I can do is keep trying the location number and that I should be aware that they probably closed at 1pm since it was Memorial Day. When I ask if there is someone I can speak with concerning the overall customer service of this venture, the guy HANGS UP ON ME.
I finally get ahold of the lady at the drop off location; I tell her that I left the key where the guy told me. She says it should have been in the key box and that she will have to charge me for a locksmith. (Ok. My bad.I should have checked the paperwork, and not just assumed what he said was accurate.) I tell her I've been trying to call, to which she says, "Yeah, I heard the phone but I was in the back. And we closed early." I agree to pay the fee and ask her to please call her before running my card with the charges. Three hours later, I get another nasty vmail, stating the fee but that my card was declined. The call ends with her slamming down the phone. (This is why I asked her to call ahead; I have a security feature on my card that I knew would cause it to decline.)
With all due respect, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. It would be one thing if it was just one person at one location, but it was every person I dealt with at Budget. Absolutely terrible. I went with Budget because the prices were a bit more competitive but I'm not sure I will ever use Budget again after this. I have worked with both Penske and Uhaul in the past and never had an experience even close to this.
As someone who works with the public in the service industry, I can hardly believe that such a thing could happen. If I treated my customers this way, I'd be fired or out of business. I'm not really sure what else to say, other than I hope you value your customers enough to at least take this seriously. It truly was one of the most terrible customer service encounters I've ever had.

My son finish college in Phoenix and we needed to move him back to CA. Reserve the truck 2 weeks in advance to get a call the night before pick up that there were no trucks available and that I was on my own to resolve the situation! And it was memorial weekend so no other company had trucks available for one way destination, call their customer service and a supervisor responded to my call within an hour to tell me that they overbooked their trucks and I needed to figure out how to move my son on my own! If this the kind of service they provide I will never again be impressed by their rates because I got stuck!!! Be aware if you rent from them. Have a backup plan. I did not!!

We had a reservation for a truck rental for over 2 weeks and at 5pm the night before I am to drive 7 hours, 2 days of work taken off, people to help me move have taken off Budget rental calls to tell me they don't have my truck. I have spent hours speaking to several non-English speaking individuals. They tell me someone will call me within 15 min to 2 hours to let me know if they can find me a truck. 2 hours later and another non-English speaking nonhelpful customer service agent (I use that term very lightly due to me getting absolutely no service) they tell me I can call the rental pick up store that has my reservation in the morning.
So I am suppose to leave my home in MS at 3am (7 hours from now) to travel to IN (7 hrs away) to probably not have a truck when I get there, and hope that by the time they open and I speak to the idiots who didn't have the truck to begin with and see if they have my truck. Totally insane way to operate!!! I have never been so disgusted in my life for the way we have been treated and not having any consideration as to the trouble this has caused! I have hotel rooms that are nonrefundable so I am out money I do not have!!! Horrible company!!! I would totally be ashamed to say I worked there! Answers the question as to why there are no English speaking so called customer service!!!

Budget Cancels Reservations without notice - On 5/10/17 I reserved a truck online to move starting 5/25/17 for two days to pick up on Watson Rd. in St. Louis Res # **. I went to check it on the Reservation late last week to find out they moved the reservation and doubled the price. I called and spoke to Jessica (Employee # **. She was great.). We got the reservation taken care of and they resent me a new reservation.
This morning at 12:50 am I get a email that my move is almost here, that I should not forgot to pack and move. At 9:21 and 9:23 am I get two cancellations emails from Budget that my truck has been cancelled. I called and spoke to Ryan at the Hazelwood office in St. Louis. He apologized but said they just got notice today that Budget is cancelling a lot of reservation. And gave me the Customer service number. I called Customer Service. Spoke to Fernada (?) who put me on hold for Customer Service.
Richard then answered the phone. Said he could do nothing to help. I informed Richard I would like to talk to his Manager as it was unacceptable that no truck was available and that NO contact either time was ever made to me about any changes or cancellations. (Although they said they reached out to customers when they cancel.) Richard put me on hold and I had to leave a message for Michelle **. I am still waiting for a call back.
What I don't understand... Is that today is Tuesday. You are telling me that no place in St. Louis or the surrounding area has any size truck available even if it's only for one day. I bet you I could drive around and find a trucks just sitting. This is the way Budget treats customers... I can't believe how low they have sunk. Way back in the days I use to rent Ryder, Budget and Penske trucks. I prided my self on NOT having no trucks situations for my customers. That was always U-Haul that let people down... Can you imagine... I am now going to U-HAUL to rent a truck... Because they are the ones that will honor a reservation. Renters beware... If you are moving on a holiday weekend... Your reservation will be cancelled if you are calling Budget... They have no care in the world about overbooking... And screwing you in the long run.

I am not one to write online reviews, but my experience with Budget recently was so abysmal I felt compelled to put something out there for others to consider. Upon seeing some other post their comments, I wish I would have done my due diligence on this company prior to booking my reservation. Shame on me for not doing my usual research.
A few weeks ago we were moving our family from our old house to our new house. I used one of the coupons the post office sends when you change addresses to book our reservation for a 26' truck (moving a 4 bedroom house). Even before the discount, the price was great; with the coupon, price was unbeatable. Well...sometimes you get what you pay (or about to pay) for when settling for the cheapest. My reservation was scheduled for 9:30 AM on a Saturday. I received not 1, but 2 emails from Budget within days of my scheduled pick up confirming that my truck was ready and my reservation confirmed. Ok, all systems go.
Then, the Friday night before I was to pick up the truck, I received a call from the KoP office at about 4 minutes before they closed that my truck was not available and to call Customer Service to find another truck. Once I received the VM, I immediately called the KoP office within 5 minutes only to get an office closed message. I called the national customer service and spoke with someone who told me that there was no 26' truck available within a 25 mile area, but a 14' or 16' truck. I tentatively confirmed the 16' truck would work, but was not happy knowing such a small truck would require more miles to move my home. The Customer Service Rep said someone would call within 2 hours (mind you, this is now 8:30 and I was going to be trying to get some early shut eye before my big move). No call received...At that point I went to U-Haul's website and easily found a 26' truck available the next morning at 9:30 within 3 miles of my home.
I called U-Haul the next morning, everything ready to go. Perfect. I then get a call from Budget confirming they had a 24' truck FOURTEEN miles away!!! I did not even bother calling back at that point, but the best is they had the audacity to email me a reservation confirmed notice for this truck. Why the hell would they expect me to go a total of 28 miles+ out of my way to get a truck is beyond me. So, Budget, cheap, unreliable, awful customer service.
Point of this story, I typically always used U-Haul. This one time I decided to try Budget and save a couple bucks, all I got was more grey hair and a lot of frustration. Never again. I understand not having a truck available, but waiting until 2 minutes until midnight (figure of speech) to call and inform me that they don't have the truck they confirmed not once, but twice, was ready for pick up on moving day, is an absolute joke. If anyone is to ask me should they use this company, my suggestion: Run, don't walk, away from doing business with them.

Like MANY people, I had a HORRIBLE experience with Budget Trucks. I rented a truck, even got a confirmation email 2 days prior to pick up stating that the truck was ready. However, the day prior to pick up - after 2 pm, I receive a call from Budget telling me that the truck I rented won't be available. The representative's only answer was to speak to Budget customer service. When I called them up, I was told that they would "escalate" this and have someone call me within 15 minutes to 2 hours. I called back 10 minutes prior to 2 hours and the rep said he couldn't do anything because 2 hours hasn't been reached.
At 2 hrs and 1 minute, I called back and was told that I would be "escalated" again. I called back the 3rd time and the lady said she would look into this right away. Nothing happened...absolutely nothing. Ended up using U-Haul. Thank god for the internet. The tides are turning in favor of the consumers. Was I livid, hell yes. Would I use them again. NEVER. If it was worth time my time, I would sue Budget for a breach of contract. As an attorney, I am positive I would win, but I am sure Budget is banking on the fact it isn't that important for most consumers. It probably isn't, but trust me I am going to tell ANYONE and EVERYONE that will listen about my experience.

I recently rented a Budget rental truck from you. It was a good experience until I showed up to pick the truck up. I rented a 20' truck but was given a 26' truck and was forced to pay the extra fee for it. They told me that they only had 16' trucks and couldn't get a 20' truck but were able to get a 26' truck so I had to pay for extra insurance because my insurance company wouldn't cover the 26' foot truck but my insurance would cover a 20' truck. I was not told that I had to purchase exhaust fluid for the truck. I was told to fill it every 50 miles. I purchased enough to cover the miles I traveled but after purchasing the additive for the exhaust fluid it turned out that I didn't need it. I was told at the time of pickup of the vehicle that I could drop the truck off any time prior to closing on Saturday without penalty. When I arrived at the rental place it was closed or no one was there.
I was also told that there was a Pilot gas station north of the rental store but when I traveled north there was not a Pilot gas station for miles. I drove around for nearly an hour before I realized that the gas station that had diesel was not a Pilot gas station at all. When I returned to the rental place to drop off the truck, no one was there so I dropped the keys in the door drop area and left. I was billed for 3 full days instead of 2 days for a truck I didn't want, insurance I didn't originally need, packing blankets for an extra day and extra exhaust fluid I didn't need because I was told that I need to add it every 50 miles. I called customer service and he told me to call the local store and tell them about the extra cost I was billed for.
That is the biggest bunch of crap I have ever heard. I was WAY overcharged a full day for a truck I didn't reserve. Now when I call customer service I am told to call the main store to complain. What kind of customer service is that??? I expect a refund for one full day for my troubles. I cannot believe you would allow such poor and disrespectful customer service from your employees.

My experience with Budget Truck Rental was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was misled and lied to throughout the entire process and ultimately charged more money than I agreed to. That said, the specifics of this situation start on April 28th at 10am. On April 28th, I was called by one of the Budget employees that work at the 5911 Blair Road office. The gentleman told me that they did not currently have a truck, and that he would call me back by 1 pm if they received a truck. I never received a call. So, at approximately 3:30 I called to see if there had been any progress on the rental. Now, I was told that I should call customer service so that I could be compensated.
After I hung up with the 5911 Blair Road office, I call the Budget customer service line. After about 30 or so minutes of waiting and transfers, I was told that my situation had been escalated, and would be sent to a Logistics Manager. I was also told that I had to wait a full 2 hours before I call customer service back. At this point, I googled the local Budget office's hours of operation. I was surprised to see that most of the stores closed at 6 pm EST.
So, I called customer service back to let them know that I had not received a callback from a logistics manager. When the customer service rep opened my account to see what had been documented; the rep told me that a full 2 hours had not yet passed and there was nothing that they could do before the time had passed. After the rep made that statement, I told them that the stores would be closed by the time the 2 hours had passed. The rep then told me that the logistics manager would follow up with me before the time was up. The call from the logistics manager never came.
So, at about 6:30 pm on April 28th I called Budget customer service back. They then told me that they would escalate my case and a manager who would call me back. By this time, I was frustrated because I had now wasted a full day waiting to get a rental that I never received, and no had no chance to receive that day. So, I told the rep I want to come to a solution now! They said, "Ok, I will look for a rental for you". After about 10 minutes and the rep had not found a rental, I asked what my options were, because they had already made me a day late getting my truck, and there was not going to be much available at other companies either.
I was then told by the rep that if I could find a rental that Budget would pay up to 150 dollars over the price that I was quoted. So, I clarified, I asked, "If I have a 350$ rental with Budget, you will give me 500$ to put towards a rental at a different company?" The rep then replied, "Yes", she then followed up to tell me that if I could find a truck from Budget, the trip would be comped. So, I started by looking for rentals from other companies, and was not able to find anything. At this point, I decided to look on the Budget site. When I searched for the same size truck that I had already reserved for the 28th of April, there was nothing available. That said, the website then gave me an option to rent a larger truck. So, because that was the only truck available in the DMV (D.C. Maryland, Virginia) area, I quickly reserved it for 9 am.
The next day (April 29th), I woke up early and called the Budget office to see when I could pick up the truck and they said they were open at 8 am and, I could pick the truck up as soon as I got there. I then went to the Budget rental site that was substantially further away from my house than that initial reservation by Uber. When I got to the site, the store was filled with disgruntled customers who reserved trucks much larger than the trucks that they received. When I got up to the front of the line I was told that Budget does not make it well known that when you make a reservation you are only locking in a price that does not guarantee that you will actually get a truck (which is not made known on the site).
So, I got the truck and immediately called customer service to let them know about all the trouble that I had gone through. I also made it clear that I felt that I should not be charged for a truck that was 3 times the initial price that I was quoted, 3 times the distance from my home, and would require at least 3 times as much fuel. I also told the rep that I did not want to keep the rental if I was not going to be comped for my extra expenses and the truck itself. She assured me that I would not be charged for the rental or the gas, and I would be compensated for my added trouble commuting to the rental site. So, I asked, "Can I have the charges removed from my account now?" She told me that she could not remove the charges now, but when I returned the truck they would be taken off my account. So, I asked again for clarification, say, "So this rental will be free", and she replied, "Yes".
I then went on to say, "I don't want this rental if I have to pay for it after I have been inconvenienced the way that I have been." The rep then told me not to worry, because when I turn the rental in, I would be compensated for all the charges that I had incurred. So, I asked her to document these promise in on my account, so that there would be not confusion. She told me that she did. So, I asked for clarification once again saying, "You documented that I will be compensated for the rental and all extra expense incurred", and she said, "Yes". So, I drove the truck to my destination (Columbus, Ohio). When I turned the truck in on Tuesday May 2, 2017 I had a bad feeling about the entire situation.
So, on Wednesday morning May 3rd around 10 am, I called customer service to make sure that the promises I had been made would be acknowledged and honored and I would be compensated/refunded the money I was charged and my Uber fees. When I finally got through to a customer service rep after 20 or so minutes of waiting and gave my reservation information, I was horrified to be told that there were no notes about a full refund. I was also told that they (Budget) don't even do refunds and she was not sure why I was told that. She went on to ask me if I knew the rep that told me that my reservation would be comped by their name and employee id? I told her no. I also told her that I did not even know that I could ask for that type of information. She went on to tell me that I she should not have told me that the reservation should be comped (acknowledging that I was made this promise), because it can't be.
At this point I was running late for a meeting and asked if she could call me back. The rep told me that they could not make outbound calls, but I could call back. So, I called back around 12:30 pm. After waiting about 25 minutes or so to speak to a rep, I was told once again that I could not be refunded my money, but they would put me in contact with a manager. Would call me back in 1-2 hours. I never received that call. So, I called back at about 4:00 pm and was on hold for approximately 1 hour before I spoke to customer service rep. The rep's name is **, and after she listen to my story, she told me that she would transfer me to a manager. She put me on hold and then after a 5-min of waiting she told me that she would have a manager call me back in 1-2 hours. I immediately told her "NO, I have been told that at every step of the trip and have never received a callback."
She went on to tell me that there was nothing she could do to help me. So, I asked how she felt that she could hang up with me when she had not solved any of my issues. She told me that that were other customers that she could be talking to that she could actually help. So, I asked her, "Are they more important than me?" She told me that I could take it that way if I wanted to. So, I asked her what her name and employee id number was and she told me, "**". I then told her that I was not hanging up until she connected me with a manager. So, we waited for another 10-15 minutes before she connected me with a manager named **.
** was one of the rudest, most condescending people that I have ever dealt with. That said, I told ** that I had been severely inconvenience and was told that my rental would be comped by a Budget customer service representative, but I was still charged. She went on to say, "We don't give free rentals, that's not how we do business". So, I replied, "I understand that is not how business works, but I made it clear to a Budget customer service rep before I left the lot, that I did not want to take the rental if I was going to be charged, and I was assured that I would not be". ** went on to tell me that she was sorry that I was told that, but they don't do that. She also told me that she would talk to the rep that told me the reservation would be comped, because she should not say that (once again admitting I was made this promise).
So, I told ** that because I was told that the rental would be free, and I also made it clear to a Budget employee that I would take the rental back if was going to be charged then, the rental should be free. She said, "I can't comp the rental, all I can do is give you the price you were initially quoted and refund you for your rental." I then told her, "No, I need to be compensated for the rental and gas, because I was promised I would be". ** went on to just say abruptly, "No, we don't do that, and you should not have been told that". (Once again admitting that I had been led to believe something that turned out not be true.) I once again told her what I was promised and told would documented and that Budget should honor their promises. I also said that I made it clear would take the rental back if I was going to be charged.
I also told ** that it was fraud to tell me something, then wait till I am charged and then tell me that what I was told was not true. She said, "I don't care what you were told, we don't do that". She went on to ask me, "Do I want to have the rental price matched or not?" The conversation went on for about 20 minutes repeating the same thing. I told her I was promised something and she told me she did not care and would not do it. So, I asked to speak to her manager, and she told me that she was as high as it goes, and I should take what she was offering because I she was going to hang up. I told that it was fraud, and she told me, "I would have to take that up with my bank". So, I asked for her name and she said, "**". I then asked for her last name and she said, "**". So, I asked again, "What is your last name" and she said, "**".
I then asked her if she could give me the name of the person that told me that my rental would be free, but did not document what she had said. ** told no, because that was not her information to share. So, I asked how it was ok for her to acknowledge that I was lied to by an employee at Budget, but would be not be able to share the name of the person with me so I could report her to the proper authorities? ** then angrily told me that the rep's name was not her information to share.
At this point, ** was all but yelling that she would match the initial price quote, and would give me an email address to send my receipt to for my Uber charges. As she continued to aggressively tell me what the email address was, I continued to ask her how it was ok to take my right to choose, by telling me a rental was free to bait me in and then switch the story when the charges come? At this point she was still yelling the email address to me as I was speaking (talking over me), and when I finally wrote it down and repeated the email back her, but still had questions, she hung up.
THIS WAS ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I was lied to, misled, then stolen from, and then told I should have not taken the truck to start with. I can't believe that I am being charge over 1000$ for a rental I would have taken back and told the rep I would, and was told I should not worry because the truck would be free. I bought a car from Budget, rented my previous moving truck from Budget, and to be screwed over by them in this way is upsetting, dishonest, and fraudulent.

We rented a truck for moving from one house to another- we were closing on both in the same day so our stuff was loaded up on a Thursday and had to stay there until afternoon on Friday. The truck itself was EXTREMELY challenging to get the back open- I couldn't get it open at all but my husband with a lot of force was able to. On Friday we got rain- sure enough the Budget truck leaked over a bunch of our stuff! I called this morning to tell them about the issues we had since we dropped off after hours and they basically told me, "Who cares, you didn't put the gas back to where it should have been. There is a $30 charge for that." And just kept transferring me into oblivion where no one could help me. I then checked my bank account to see that they had deducted more than DOUBLE of the agreed-upon amount for the rental. I am very unhappy and it will be the absolute last time I use this company for anything.

I reserved a truck online for my move from Wisconsin to Michigan about 3 weeks prior to my move. I had hired actual movers to do the heavy lifting for me on both ends so I was relying on that truck being reserved for me on that date and time. I received an email verifying the date and time and even got a call from the Germantown location verifying the reservation. I made arrangement to pickup the keys early and was ready to go. The day before the move I received a call stating that they wouldn't have a truck available for me nor would they have a smaller or larger truck available. They wouldn't be able to give me 2 smaller trucks either. I was told to call customer service.
When I asked why they had overbooked they said they had over 10 trucks overbooked and it wasn't their fault. The woman was rude and obviously wanted to get me off the phone. I called customer service and received a call back from the district manager. They didn't have any trucks available in 200 miles for me! Their suggestion? Call Hertz or U-Haul. I asked what I was supposed to do about the fact that they had potentially just cost me over $1000 in cancellation fees. He said "nothing... absolutely nothing." I will never recommend Budget to anyone or even glance in their direction again. Please also note: right after they cancelled my reservation, they contacted me with an email asking me to re-book. They said they noticed I cancelled my reservation and asked if I needed help rescheduling. I am beyond words.

I had to move my child's apartment stuff home from college so I reserved (and was confirmed) a 12' truck one way from Houston to Austin TX. I got a ride (from Austin) to my pickup location, however 30 minutes before I arrived, I was notified that my truck was not available. They told me to contact customer service, which I did and was told they would call me within 2 hours. They did call 30 minutes later to tell me the closest truck I could get would be an additional 2 hour drive to get to.
I asked the customer service rep what the point in reserving a truck if I couldn't have one and he told me it was to lock in the price. The price to rent nothing? He told me I should have read the small print which says a truck may not be available. Well I agree. I should have read the fine print to realize I should have never reserved a truck with them which ultimately left me stranded in Houston. Fortunately, Uhaul saved my moving day by finding me a truck. The down side was $100 more than if I would have reserved one through Uhaul originally. It was a pricey lesson for me, but will only rent through Uhaul or Enterprise in the future.

We placed an online reservation for a 24' truck and car carrier. The night before we were to pick up the truck we received a phone call that they did not have the truck and didn't know when they would have one available. We were under a time constraint - we had volunteers packing my mother's apartment. We needed to be out of the apartment by 5 pm. Having an unknown of when a truck would be available was not acceptable. We will never rent from Budget again!

Rented a truck to move from Denver, CO to NJ. Check engine light came on 1 hour outside of Denver. We were given a method of "clearing" it. The truck was going across the country and we were unable to maintain a speed of 45 MPH. There was no license plate on the truck and the toll pass didn't work. What a nightmare of travel. Instead of taking 2 days, it took 4 to get across the country. There was no customer service other than "if you want you can unload the truck and we'll give you another one at no charge" somewhere in the middle of the country. Why would I unload the whole truck with no way of getting any guarantee the new one would be any better? How do they put a truck on the road that has no license plate and no power to the transmission? Customer service was terrible, truck was a ridiculous joke. Never again Budget - never.

NEVER AGAIN!!! I should have learned from a prior experience that no great rate is worth the hassle/aggravation/poor customer service Budget Truck Rentals never fails to deliver. I reserved a 12 ft. truck and was notified four hours before I was due to pick it up that the truck that I reserved (had confirmation for) was not available at the location as promised. No offer as to the next nearest location where the truck I needed was available.
I was told to contact 1-800-GOBUDGET and spent the next hour and a half on the phone with one rep or another. Found the truck 9 miles away, ok, no big deal, but when I arrived at the scheduled pickup time I was told they just rented out the last 12 ft. truck they had, but I could have a 16 ft. truck for the same price. Sounds like a deal, but I did not want to travel the distance I needed to travel with this larger truck and the apartment complex I was moving from was not easy to navigate with this larger truck. I was told that I could go to yet a third location that had the 12 ft. truck I needed, but by this point I would be a fool to believe that they would have it once I arrived. I then left the office area to call customer service to complain and see if I could get a discount for my (further) inconvenience.
Long story short and a half hour later I was "promised" that I could call once the truck was returned and get a refund ($35.35) for half the base rate. I asked what assurance I had that they would honor that after the fact and the rep freely gave me his name (even spelled it for me) and his id number. What else could I do but trust him. Lo and behold I call today for my "promised" refund and after speaking with a rep and their supervisor I was told that the rate had already been discounted and that there was no documentation for the refund I was promised. When asked about the rep and id I was given I was told that she did not know this person. She also pointed out that they do not guarantee availability or location. What the heck is the purpose of a confirmation then? What a way to run a business. I would not recommend to my worst enemy. Stay as far away from Budget Truck Rentals as you can.

What should have been an easy pickup of a rental truck reserved a week in advance turned into an adventure in poor customer service at the rental dealer through the customer service agents on the phone. Quote of the day 1, at the dealer "Reservations don't matter here - it's first come first serve." Customer service apparently refers the matter to an inventory control person who may call you back in two hours, or by the next business day. Quote du jour 2: "Don't worry, we're a national chain, we have tons of trucks."
SO, next business day comes, re-reserve a truck and re-book labor at $150 loss only to find out again, the reservation was NOT completed by the customer service. Makes no entries in the reservation online file to track the order process. Naturally the follow-up with management meets a dead end because of a lack of a documentation trail. I expect this kind of fly by night service from moving ads posted on telephone poles, not a national chain. Bottom line - NEVER AGAIN with Budget for a rental truck.

Basic problem is that they have great rates but the day before they call you to tell you they don't have a truck leaving you to scramble to find a replacement truck somewhere else at a higher price. Or they ask you to take a smaller truck which is what anyone else would charge. This is false advertising and fraudulent. After they call you go online and they continue to advertise the truck you actually want and reserve it at another location only to have Joe at their Denver western region location call you to tell you the truck is not available and to take a smaller truck. When you complain he hangs up on you.
I have rented numerous times and have not had major problems but last time I had very bad tires. It was raining hard and didn't have time to check the truck carefully. Bottom line they can't be trusted to give you the equipment you reserve when you want it. There is no guarantee and you could incur expenses due to delays in your move. Also they are using bait and switch techniques. Seldom have I seen such blatant and fraudulent behavior from a major company. There should be a class action suit against this fraudulent company. The people who are posting complaints on this site should also complain to their Better Business Bureau, and local and state consumer protection offices as well as the AAA whose membership these fraudsters offer a discount.

Rented via internet 2 weeks prior to pick up date. Got to location, no 12' and no record of my confirmation. I had all my confirmation paperwork. Didn't want to accept a 16'. Too big for my purposes to drive across state 400 miles with only a quarter of the vehicle loaded. No furniture just boxes. Representative. Allied another location clear across town and sent me there because they said they had a 12'. Got there and they said they were mistaken - no 12'. Still had to settle for a 16'. Vehicles had no drivers side mirror, it was broken and bottom missing. Said it was okay, it had passed a safety inspection. Should have been a clue.
The truck was horrible but too late to find somewhere else. Drove across the state, not able to speak to my husband because the interior noise was so loud, we could not hear each other. Wind coming into cab from somewhere. Drive horribly. Shook the entire trip. Got home dropped items in driveway and left to return a day early. Went to location they set for drop off - didn't exist. Tried to google by name and went there - they were not in business for Budget anymore. Called the phone number listed on contract - disconnected. Called 1800 number and got disconnected 4x after telling each representative same story. Finally call #5 got thru to customer service. 2 people later got a supervisor LUIS ** who told me to drive another 20 something miles to a new drop off. And then asked me to call back and they would reimburse me for problems.
Got to new location some 49 minutes later. Nice woman said this happens all day long. 3 calls later I finally get customer service. New supervisor Marcos listened to my story again and said he could offer $34??? Monday's pickup disaster and now Wednesday's drop off problems and that amounts to 10%??? Wow. Tried to explain again and reiterate horrible experience and he gave me another $6. Wow. $40 for all my time and my husband and all the mess. Never. Never. Never again will I consider Budget. Long story short: Rented a truck in Bakersfield for a one-way move Fri 8 am to Sun 8 am with drop-off location in Hollywood. The pick-up place was on time and super friendly - yet the car was super dirty, had a cracked windshield and marks all over. (I mean it is called Budget Truck for a reason...) I had no issues with the truck or move itself. Issues started as I was trying to return the truck on designated location and time.
Pulling up to the drop-off location was a disaster from the first minute. No parking for trucks, just a small lot for compact cars (yes, I put my warning signals on and parked in the middle of the lot. What else to do?!). Right away I realized the location was closed ALL Sunday and I called customer service right away - I got told to go to another location with *after hours drop-off*, 40 minutes north of designated location. Hell no. I did that to refill the gas and to pay for other location and after hours fees...
I found a street parking after circling around the blocks for half an hour. I left the truck and went back Monday morning as business opened. They told me right away they have no power not to charge me for a late return of the vehicle and that I had to call customer service again. I even had to wait for the owner of the location since I wasn't accepting that extra fee due to their failure to fulfill contract. After many calls to Budget Truck Rentals customer service they will now reimburse me for the extra charge and I will never rent a truck by them again... End of story.

Made a reservation for a 16-foot truck 2 months in advance. Even received an email from Budget reminding us of our reservation a few days ahead of time. Requested the truck at 8am. Got there and were told a driver was bringing our truck at 9:30am (it was at a location that was at least 45 minutes away). At 9:30am we were informed that the driver had not even left yet. Meanwhile, 2 other parties arrived and asked about their trucks, which were likewise unavailable. Budget offered to drive all of us out to get our trucks, but then we all realized the paperwork said they were giving us 26 ft trucks instead of the requested 16 ft trucks. And they weren't even going to mention it!
When questioned, they admitted that they had NO 16 ft trucks in all of LA, even though we all had reservations. We absolutely cannot maneuver such a large truck on our narrow streets or our driveway. So after 2 hours of waiting at the Budget office, we had to cancel the whole deal and delay our move and vacation until we can get a truck from someone else. Thanks, Budget! This morning I received a call from Sedgwick, the company who handles Budget's claims, who says that I am being charged $626.91 because the truck was damaged while I was using it and that it's my financial responsibility because I didn't get under the truck to check that the tires weren't bald before signing paperwork. Shame on me for assuming that a nationwide company wouldn't send their customers on the road in unsafe vehicles. I suppose I should have checked under the hood as well to ensure that the transmission won't crap out before taking it out on the road.

We rented a truck on 11/30/2016 and had some issues with this unit. First the truck was sent out without DEF fluid in it so the guys noticed that and had to stop and fill that up. 6 hours into the rental the unit broke down. I had 2 employees that were driving the truck and at 6 am they called me and told me that the truck had an issue. The check engine light had come on and the truck was smoking. I told them to get to a safe place and call roadside assistance. Roadside sent out a guy which was pretty fast in getting there and looked and the issue tapped on a couple of things and said they were good to go that the DEF filter was clogged and they should be good.
20 Miles or so later the truck started again with the smoking. Again told them to get to a safe place and call roadside and tell them to either bring a new truck or a DEF Filter with them. They were told that they would have to return the truck to the place that it was rented from to get a new truck --- Well we were about 6 hours away from that --- Roadside told them they get a text within a half hour. 1 hours go by nothing. I called and wanted to know what was going on and they told me they could not locate a tech. I asked for a swap and got denied. Another half hour goes by I called again, the lady tells me she still cannot locate a tech. I pushed again for the swap of the truck as am paying these 2 guys plus 2 guys in Superior Wisconsin who are waiting on my 2 guys to get there.
Finally in a final call they tell me they are going to get another truck out to them and I will receive a call or text - I received a call and it was someone telling methat the truck is on the way but they are coming from St. Paul MN and that was 3.5 hours away. So again everyone is sitting and I am paying everyone to sit and wait. So all in all I have 10 hours of sitting time at 260.00 per hour which I am losing on a job that should only take my guys 21 hours to do from start to finish and instead it takes 35 hours plus a night stay over.
I am looking to see if Budget will work with me to get compensated for this loss of time and money. I will include receipts of the hotel stay, DEF fluid replacement and not sure what we need to do for the hours of labor that have incurred. I am hoping we can resolve this issue fast as I am a very small business and really cannot afford to have added expenses when we give a customer an estimate and lose. Called customer service, talked to the supervisor (supposed), "All we can do for you sir is give you 150.00 for your trouble" - tried to explain that I am now out 2600.00 due to the inadequate truck that was rented to me. "Sorry sir. That is all I can do." They Suck; will never use them again. And we rent a lot of trucks throughout the year.

I rented a truck and an auto towing trailer from Budget in Aug. 3. Hours into my move I was left stranded on the side of the road for over 6 hours with three flat tires. After asking me to continue to sit and wait for another 12 hours minimum for it to be repaired, I had a tow company pick up the trailer, which I was ensured I would not encounter any fees from. At this point I was mad that I spent $225 for a trailer that I was suppose to have for 7 days but had less than 1, however I was thankful to not be on the side of the road anymore. When I turned in the truck I asked about a refund on the trailer and was told no but I would not see any more charges for my trip. I walked away very angry that I wasted my money on this company but I let it go as I was glad to be done dealing with them.
106 days later I get an email with a bill for $500 for "towing" fees. SURPRISE!! I talked to the adjuster Patrick twice, got several different stories that magically changed every time he needed it to fit in with what he was saying. However I learned something VERY EYE OPENING: Budget Rentals (depending what state and which laws they want to go by) have up to 3 years (some states longer) to come after the renter for any "damages" and "fees" they feel is necessary up to the amount of the insurance you purchased. The statement in the contract that they use to get away with this is "You are responsible for and will pay us for all loss of or damage to the truck whether or not you were at fault from any cause natural or unknown."
So if you rented from Budget take note/pictures of any prior damage, hold on to all documentation for at least 3 years and if you have any issues know that you will be given a bill, even if they tell you you won't and it will be when you least expect it! I am shocked a company that treats customers like this can still be in business.

I reserved a truck for pickup on Saturday November 19th at 11:30 am at a Fort Pierce Florida location. When we arrived to pick up the truck, the clerk told us they did not have any trucks for us to take. He claimed the one they did have, he was unable to rent out because it needed maintenance. He did not offer to help us locate another truck or assist us in any way. We left and found a different truck with a different company due to the experience we had that morning. The issue I'm having, is that I'm now being charged a $50 "no show" fee after showing up and being told that there wasn't a truck available. I expect to hear from someone tomorrow morning, after the holiday today. I also expect to have my money refunded IMMEDIATELY, as this as already been the worst experience with a moving truck company I have had to date.

Budget corporate broke their promise and it cost me an extra $300. Had a reservation with Budget, but the day before the scheduled pickup, Budget called to tell me they didn't have a truck for me, told me to call customer service. I immediately called customer service, who referred me to another number, and the person there said to expect a call back within two hours. No call back, so I called again to follow up. Still no truck.
This time I was told that their system showed me as just having a quote, not a reservation. The email I had received clearly stated "confirmed reservation," and the last four digits of my credit card, but Budget never charged my card. I'm guessing Budget has a business practice of emailing a "confirmed reservation," but not charging the credit card so that they could call it just a quote, instead of a reservation, and walk away from their commitment.
Budget couldn't fix their problem, but I called U-Haul, and they put me on the list for one of the two trucks scheduled to come in the next day. Cost me about $300 more because the only truck available from U-haul was a larger and more expensive truck. I credit U-Haul with a win, and will likely not ever rent from Budget again.

I ended up having to call and cancel my reservation because the people that were going to help me move cancelled on me. When I called to cancel the agent was very rude and unhelpful and said I would be charged a $50 cancellation fee. I explained that I never even received any confirmation through email or over the phone so I should not have to pay and I asked to speak to supervisor. The agent put me on hold for 3 minutes and came back and said she could waive it. I asked her could she make sure I get a cancellation email because I never received a confirmation in the first place and she said she would.
Two days later the $50 charge shows up on my account. I call them back and they give me a hard time and once again the agent is rude and unhelpful. They said I would get a refund but I will believe it when I see it back in my account and I will keep calling them until they do. I will never use this company again that's for sure and make sure to discourage others from using as well!

Made an online reservation, put in my credit card number and received a confirmation number. Got a confirmation email as well as email reminder not to forget about reservation and that I would be billed for a no-show. One hour before pick-up and while I'm on my way to get the truck for the move, I get a call from Budget that the owner of the location decided not to come in and I would have to travel to a further location to still have a rental. Never mind the fact that if I had reserved it from the city further away, the price would have been cheaper (lower price per mile) but now when I return it to the original location it will be priced as a 'one-way' and double the price (which the person on the phone specifically told me would NOT happen).
I coerced my friend to drive the distance to get me to the further city to pick up the truck. Guy behind the counter is having a terrible day because I'm already the 5th person with the same story and he is running out of trucks. I'm about to leave there with the second to last truck, when he confides in me that there are another 11 people after me who've made reservations who will be unfortunately also have a VERY bad day since there are no more trucks for their reservation! How does this company stay in business? After an already stressful move, I return the truck to the location I picked it up at instead of the closer location to my home and where I made my original reservation. The location is closed but I was told to just lift the gate and slide the key under.
This easily lift-able gate is locked and weighed about 1000 pounds. I didn't mind crushing my hand trying to slide the key underneath, it was trying to do it in the pouring rain while 10 or so rats felt like I was either invading their territory or inviting them to get into the business as I tried to lift the gate (I could see why they kept the garage door gate shut CLOSED). After begging the rats not to bite me and let me leave with my life, I walked the streets of the BRONX, NY at midnight in a secluded part of town trying to navigate my way back home. I call this morning to make sure that they got the truck back safe and sound and figure out my bill. They came in, took a look at the truck and promptly drove the truck over to the location near my home and left it there, and then charged me the one-way rate ANYWAY.
So, the fiasco with the midnight knife fight in the pouring rain with the ninja rats was all for nothing. I call customer service to get this fixed. "We can't work on this because the reservation is not closed out." WHAT?!? I dropped off the truck at midnight and the location opens at 8am. They've had the truck for 4 hours now. Call back the location. "Go call where we dropped if off at, ya putz." Call the original place. Is he sorry that he just didn't show up to work and caused this entire problem? NO. Does he know where my truck is? NO. A few more of these back and forth calls and he finally agrees to close out the reservation. Here is the kicker, he tells me "Don't worry, I didn't add any extra fees to the ONE-WAY rental you dropped off at the pick-up location. We won't charge you for driving the truck back over here."
I don't know how I found the fortitude to not explode. I think I even thanked him for his help. I have a feeling it was likely due to disorientation from the colors I was beginning to see. I call customer service back and explain my situation. They are the only other victims in this story because they likely get millions of calls from enraged, frustrated customers like me. They have to help, but are forced to do it in 1-minute increments and then stop to ask you for permission to work on it for another minute.
I tried to tell the young lady that I was happy to wait however long it took to fix the problem, but she told me she was not allowed to just work until it was finished. She HAD to ask me once a minute if she could continue to work on it. Eventually she was able credit me for the difference in the price of the one-way and local rental. However, she could not change the payment option (I wanted to pay with a different card since they take a large deposit for local rentals) since payment had been taken immediately. While I ended up in a lot better position than most who rent with Budget, I certainly will not be using them in the future.

Was looking for a truck rental for one day to move some furniture. Saw Budget's offer of daily truck use - I think $19 plus mileage - moving within the same city so a perfect fit for me. Guessed my total cost could not exceed $40. As I said, perfect fit for me. Secured the truck for the following day online. Received a confirmation in minutes - everything as advertised - could not have been easier. I lined up all my appointments for the following day - picking the truck up at 9AM. Arrived at the truck rental spot with labor ready to go. The local rental location talked to me like I was crazy. What was I doing there? Said of course here to pick up my truck and gave him my confirmation number showing charge to my credit card. He simply said "Sorry can't give you a truck I do not have - completely booked up. You will have to call around to somewhere else."
I demanded that he call the company and see what was available. He said there was a location 10 miles away. He would check with them and call me back when he could. I headed out of my way to the new location. No phone call and when I arrived at the alternative location - no truck. Now my entire day was shot - behind on scheduled appointments and wasted labor expense. Drove out of my way to the closest Home Depot to rent a truck from them - they were sold out but referred by to a second Home Depot location even further away. Last minute had to pay premium price for the Home depot truck and because of the late hour - an all day price $104.00.
After taking care of all the paperwork and way behind on my way to the first location the Budget guy finally called back (2 hours later) to say he knew a location I could go to - rent the truck. After telling him "thanks but no thanks" I went on with my day. Totally cost be truck price of $64 and a minimum of $50 in labor. I called Budget the next day as they charged me anyway and said no show on the invoice. Called, spoke to their joke of a customer service department. They agree to reverse the charge of $50 when I threatened to reverse the charge with my credit card company. They agreed and said it would take 5 to 7 business days for the credit to surface!
The gall of these people. I asked to speak to a customer service supervisor. They said and I quote "there were no supervisors in the US. You could email an international location" but they would not do anything for me anyway. A total disaster. Choose another company - these people are crooks and do not care if you are taken care of.

I had to return the truck on Oct 8th and was told that the facility would be open from 8 am til noon. Upon arrival the facility was closed so I had to leave the key and the contract there and I would return Monday to get my deposit back.
On Monday I got a call from the facility saying that he does not handle cash so I would have to be refunded by check via mail in which I was not told that when I asked the gentlemen at the facility. Suppose I came to rent a truck and was paying cash you would take the money so you do handle cash and I had to leave Georgia to go to Alabama to return the truck.
This was a inconvenience because I am thinking when I return the truck I would get my deposit back. I called to do a follow up today and explained that I turned in all the paperwork and I didn't know the town in Alabama I turned the truck in. I was told to call the facility and I said how can I call the facility and I don't even remember the town it was in. So I have yet to get my refund and the customer care rep was very rude. Statement/Timeline: We reserved a moving truck from Budget Rental Glendale in my husband's name on 9/25/16. We received confirmation of the reservation that day. I took off work that Saturday so I can help load the truck. On Sep 29th, I received a second confirmation that said it's almost time to pick up my truck on 10/30.
We called the evening of the 29th to confirm we would by at 10 and they said, “Oh, we canceled that reservation. We overbooked!” “But we did just leave you a voicemail!" "But call this number for Budget and they will help you find another reservation in the area." We called that number and were told we would be called back within 2 hours. We weren't called back, and our search on the internet made it appear that nothing was available anywhere in LA. We called again because we did not hear back. Again, they said, "we will call you back in 2 hours." NO CALL EVER CAME! At this point, I had now wasted hours and hours trying to resolve their screw up.
I then tried UHAUL and made a reservation for an 11:30 pickup in North Hills. I call them to confirm and they say, "oh, we don't actually have anything available, that was just a request for a truck, not a reservation." It appears that this is common practice in the rental industry these days. I spoke to several other locations and they said, "yeah, we don't have anything, we have 7 reservations and only 3 trucks!"
We finally, finally found a truck to rent 2 days later with Penske, which required me to take a second day off of work. The lady at Penske said that Budget and Uhaul are notorious for doing this and that she gets calls all the time from people who have had the same thing happen to them. THIS IS A TERRIBLE PRACTICE. People are already stressed out about moving. I tried to make all the plans and to be prepared as possible, only to run into this MAJOR problem that is not our fault at all. It’s really awful, and I can't imagine how many families are affected by this.
WHAT I AM SEEKING AS A RESOLUTION: I am seeking acknowledgment that this is a poor business model, apologies that I was never contacted on both of the occasions I was told I would be, compensation for my time wasted, stress accumulated, and for the extra day of work I had to take off. In a perfect world, I would like for these companies to change their business model, as this seems like a giant problem.

Just got off the phone with Budget Truck Rental. I had a problem with my brakes freezing up on a truck this weekend. The mechanic came out 3 hours later and of course the brakes were cooled down by then and worked fine on his 20' test drive. He told me to ask for a replacement truck. So, I called Budget and the maintenance manager told me if they couldn't replicate the problem that I would be responsible for the bill. I asked what bill and he wouldn't answer. I'm not sure if it was going to be for 2 truck rentals or the mechanics bill. I asked him if he was telling me to drive a truck that I thought was dangerous and he reiterated that I would have to pay if they couldn't replicate the problem. Now it is about 11 pm and it was too late to do anything. Sunday morning Budget calls and same thing so by now I tell them to **.
They say "you don't want a replacement truck?" I said "** no". Now they ask where I am returning the truck. I ask "why?" And they say so they can repair it. Lol. I said "why? YOU don't trust the brakes?" I took it back to the place I rented it and they exchanged it - no questions asked. 24 hours after I picked it up. Two days later I call Budget to complain and they said it was my responsibility to bring the truck to a repair facility on Sunday for repairs. WHAT??? Waste 2 days on a 3 day rental. Worse, while driving at high speed on the NJ Turnpike, the right rear tire blew out causing me to have to struggle to control the truck and get it safely off the road. Budget paid for the repair; that is not my complaint. Rather it is that they rented the truck in an unsafe condition, and when I tried to inform the service person of this when I returned the truck, she was entirely uninterested. I felt I should document this event so that others know to avoid Budget Truck Rental, and so that the company will be on notice of the unsafe condition of their vehicles so that they either will take steps to rectify the situation, or risk liability for a lawsuit if/when someone is not as fortunate as I was, and is seriously injured while renting a Budget vehicle.

The online reservation of our truck was smooth and easy. UNFORTUNATELY, that was the only thing. When we went to pick up the truck the facility was closed. Just so happens the manager had come to the office to pick some papers. When she saw my husband there, she was wondering why. He told her that he was there to pick up our truck that was rented via the web. She was shocked as they were closed for the week. My husband explained to her that we need our truck as reserved online because we are moving out of State and his job starts on Monday.
Well she gave us a truck, the only tr6 on the lot, which was a little bigger than what we reserved, which we were grateful, until the big surprise of the ants. We picked up our truck on a Wednesday, packed it but didn't get on the road until Thursday. It wasn't until Thursday evening when we finally pulled over to eat that we were surprised. The bag of chips that was sitting on the passenger seat was covered with red ants. My husband said he had seen a couple of ants but didn't think anything of it as the truck had been sitting on a lot for days. But when the ants started coming from the vents, floor mats, passenger door, up his leg, he had to pull over, jump out of the truck to get the ants off of him. All trying not to have an accident.
Once we reported this to Budget, there only words were "we are so sorry. We can send another truck." Well that would have been fine but who was go to repack a truck. So we bought bug spray and had to stay overnight at a hotel until some of the ants subsided, plus my husband could not drive because of the ** he took due to the ant bites. So we report all of this. Was told that we will be issued a refund once we return the truck. Well we were satisfied with this because at least they were not going to charge us for this horrible experience. So we go to drop off the truck, only to be told that the office is closed for 2 days and will not open until Wednesday. This was not told to us by budget, but by a tenant in the company next to the budget rental office. As a matter of fact, he said I was the third person he had told that morning.
Well once again we get screwed. There at 8:00am, late to work, and no one there. We were told by the service rep that once we return the truck, they would issue the refund. Well how convenient to be closed. Once I reported this incident to customer service, I was told that the charges will remain on hold until the ticket is closed. He assured my husband that NOTHING CAN BE DONE UNTIL THE TICKET IS CLOSED. So left the keys in the night drop as instructed, waited until Wednesday to speak with the rep, who stated that she had informed Budget that she would be out until Wednesday and please do not lost this site as a drop off until Wednesday.
Bottom line after contacting customer service, my husband was told that no charges will be charged to our credit card, the hold should call off in 5-7 days. NOT. THEY HAD ALREADY CHARGED MY ACCOUNT ON MONDAY AFTER WE WERE TOLD THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE UNTIL WEDNESDAY. Liars, poor customer service, infestation, all made for horrible experience. Never rented from this company.

We rented a budget truck in Colorado and got in an accident that damaged the roof of the vehicle. Prior to starting our move I purchased what Budget Truck claims to be a foolproof insurance purchase through them. Directly after the accident contacted local law enforcement reported the accident and then called Budget Truck customer service where I was redirected multiple times until finally connected to somebody who informed me that the cover all insurance that I purchased for almost $400 did not cover rooftop damage even though I specifically told buy a Budget Truck employee that it covered everything that you could imagine.
The accident happened in Illinois in the middle of the night. We were advised that Budget Truck would not rent us a second moving truck and we were told that we needed to get all belongings out of the 24 foot box truck. They left my father and I stranded in Chicago with everything we have ever owned. They had no regard for our situation and simply left us out to dry. My insurance covered the damages after they attempted to charge me 10,000 dollars in repairs. It was nowhere near that amount in true damages/labor. I want the public to hear my story and acknowledge the complete disregard for the customers well-being or simply safety. Thank you U-Haul and State Farm for helping me and my family out.

According to Budget's own Terms of Service, your reservation guarantees the price of a truck, but does not actually guarantee the truck will be there. In my case, the reservation did not even guarantee that the business would still be there. I reserved my truck back in late June for a move at the end of August. During the week leading up to the move, I received several e-mails indicating the truck would be ready on the day of pick up. This was perfect because I had decided to hire movers to make the day go smoothly.
Well, Saturday comes around and I pull up to the address to find they were co-located with a self storage business. I asked the lady at the storage counter where the Budget truck window was and she informed me that they had closed down two weeks earlier. I look over at the next window where Budget was supposed to be located and there is a sign on crumpled notepaper that read "Questions? Call **." I didn't take down the number because I was already calling the main line. Budget actually answered pretty quickly, however, it only went downhill from there. I was told about their lovely Terms of Service and that they would be willing to help me find another truck for the same price.
The woman was so insistent on the same price, but didn't seem to realize that my movers would be showing up any minute and their price wasn't changing. In addition, the Budget rep couldn't book a truck for me and had to take my number down so that an inventory manager could respond. Two hours later, I received a call from Budget asking if I wanted to pick up a truck. By this time, the movers had arranged for a truck and I told Budget to stuff it.
Several days after this debacle, I called Budget back to complain about the incident to see what they would say. I spoke with another representative and I told her the story about how the business closed without informing their customers. I made sure to let her know that I was essentially paying movers to sit around and do nothing while we waited for a truck to show up. The Budget rep offered her apology for the situation and noted that the location was closed so that other people would not have to deal with this issue. Apparently, they were still unaware of the problem, even though several complaints on Google Maps and Yelp were starting to show up.
The woman apologized one more time and asked if there was anything else. I told her I expected to be compensated for my inconvenience due to their complete failure to provide any service and the inflated price I owed the movers due to their mistake. She again cited the Terms of Service agreement and apologized for the 40th time.
Budget truck rental is not to be trusted. They write damage control language into their policy, so that when these situations arise, they can claim they did nothing wrong. Any company that takes reservations, but does not make any guarantee of service on their end is useless. Based on the number of complaints and specificity of the policy, my guess is that failure occurs on a regular basis.

Dealing with Budget Truck was a nightmare from start to finish. Pickup location reserved weeks ahead of time, but Budget calls a couple DAYS ahead of time and says no truck will be there. I must drive to location twice as far from my home. It’s Labor Day weekend, so nothing I can do but deal with it - and Budget agent acts like he knows that too. Power outlets not working in truck, so no place to plug in a GPS. Drop off address in confirmation is an abandoned location, with large signs saying it moved to another location 10+ minutes away (and obviously had moved a while ago - inexcusable that Budget has wrong information).
No after hours key slot there, even though I had been assured after hours drop off OK at that location, and Budget website confirmed (and still confirms right now) that after hours drop off OK there. That then required me to make another trip to the drop off location to return the key when they're open. Staff at that location has the nerve to call me, complain I'm not getting back there quickly enough, that I should have guessed OK to leave key in slot at abandoned location (even though the slot was taped over - which the guy on the phone didn't realize). He threatens to tow the truck, even though I’m already steaming mad I have to go there at all, all due to Budget’s incompetence. Total nightmare. Wasted my time and cost me real money to compensate for Budget's errors. Had to deal with obnoxious and badly trained Budget people at multiple steps along the way.

Budget Truck Rental is the worst rental company that I have ever dealt with. The first truck had no power (26 foot diesel) and had to wait for another one to become available (1 day later). Second truck wasn't any better. Traveled from Tampa to Knoxville. Truck worked fair until wheel hit rolling hills, then truck could barely make it up a minor hill (half full and pulling a car). I have a Ford F-350 that can pull three cars better than the Budget Ford F-750 pulled one car. Called Budget to express my concern and disappointment and they offered a $70 refund on a $758 bill, that is less than one day of rental! That was an insult. These trucks are very underpowered and dangerous. The lady at the local Budget also admitted they have had problems with these trucks. Everything about this company has been horrible, will never rent from Budget again...

I "reserved" a truck for a move a few weeks before the actual date of my move. I was called this morning, days before the move, and told they "had no trucks because it's a busy weekend". When I asked them what I could do their representative said "Nothing. We don't have any trucks" She told me that their reservation system is "just for preference" and that it doesn't actually relate to booking a truck - which is apparently done at their leisure. Sure enough, from their site: "A reservation is not a contract. Reservation only guarantees the rate quoted and shows a customer’s preferences for a pickup location, drop-off location, time of rental, date of rental and equipment type." Don't waste your time. I called UHaul and they guaranteed me a bigger truck for a lower price.

Worst company ever. The truck broke down. My movers were stuck for two days so they could fix the truck. They would not send another truck. I lost the hotel and return airline tickets and I had to feed the movers 2 extra days. Their broke down truck cost me an extra $900. They offered me $300. After sending 12 letters they finally gave me the extra expenses back. Awful Awful customer service. Spend the extra 100 bucks at Uhaul.

I've rented from Budget 3 times over the past 5 years. Will NEVER be a customer with them again. Their customer service has been markedly worse each time. This past year, arrived on time for my rental, and had to wait an hour in their lobby to be given a truck, because there was only one person working at the location--at a SNAIL'S pace.
Just recently my experience is what perturbed me most. I reserved a truck with them 8 weeks in advance of my pick-up date. One week prior to the pick up date, I asked if they had a truck with a lift. They said they did, followed by the fact it would be $400 dollars extra. I had to check with my mother to ask if she would want the lift for her fridge. In the meantime, Budget had changed my reservation to $650 from $220 to get the truck with the lift. Fine.
When I called back to have my reservation switched back only 5 minutes later, they said there was nothing they could do because rates are subject to change. I explained I changed the reservation 5 minutes ago and for my rate to go up over $400 was ridiculous. The manager I spoke with said there was nothing she could do; once they changed my reservation, there was no going back to the original amount. What a pathetic company. Pathetic customer service. Needless to say, I cancelled the reservation and went with U-haul. I have had fantastic service from them so far.

I rented a truck for a one way move from Chicago to Daytona beach FL. The truck I rented costed over $1000.00. This isn't about the cost because I don't know what a truck costs to do a one way rental. The truck wasn't very clean as if someone just got up the big pieces of paper and didn't vacuum it out (rush job). I took it and did the vacuum because I was gonna be spending many hours in this truck. Got it loaded and once I hit the highway I noticed that truck pulled heavy to the left, so I called Budget to ask them what can be done about this. This makes my drive harder and I have a lot of driving to do. They didn't answer, it was late that Saturday. So I called Sunday didn't get much help, emergency roadside only limited services on weekend.
So Monday I called and I finally spoke with someone and they told me that I could take it to a repair shop in some town that I was close to and they would take a look at the truck and possibly repair it or change the truck. I said this truck is loaded with furniture and all. That would mean that I would have to transfer everything from one truck to another! So I asked if they could just compensate me for the rental and I would be ok with that. So, "Yes, when you make it to your destination give us a call back and we'll discuss compensation," was they're reply. So I done that and 3 days later no word from Budget. No one has inspected the truck yet! I wait 2 more days and finally they tell me that someone looked and that truck and couldn't find a problem with the tires. So they couldn't compensate me for my troubles! I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH BUDGET AGAIN!

I made a reservation for a truck that was listed as available in Mississippi, the afternoon before I was to pick up my reservation I got a call from a budget representative saying that my truck was unavailable at the place I had reserved it so I had to drive to the Tennessee border to pick it up instead. The move was rough, it rained hard every day (1000 year flood for Louisiana but only a hundred year flood for Arkansas). Instead of returning the truck on Sunday, I was already late a day, I figured Monday morning would be fine because the closest return business (8888 Faulkner Lake Rd North Little Rock) was 40 minutes away.
When I went to return it Monday morning, the front right tire had sunk into the mud. I called for roadside assistance and the tow truck that came to help got stuck worse than me. He then had to call a bigger truck to get us out of the mud. I returned the truck a few hours late and was charged for two extra days ($85 a day even though it says $70 on the web) and two extra days for the dolly at $15 a day with the bent wheel ($22.00 when I rented it for 2 days). I paid more for the 30 hours extra that I had the truck then I did for the initial rental ($237.45 vs $206.19). I will never use Budget again. I need one more truck to complete the move but they have lost a lifetime of my business. I called customer service, I guess because I will never be their customer again. They decided that service was something they didn't have to abide by. If any Budget Exec or employee reads this, my customer reference number was **. There it is, I was a customer.

Do you enjoy being horrifically inconvenienced during moving? Do you want your blood to boil as some snarky employee sneers at you that they can't offer you their services on the morning of your reservation? Do you enjoy playing endless phone tag with an incompetent customer service staff, getting transferred from line to line, repeating the same story across many hours, all the while getting absolutely no where? Then Budget Truck Rental is for you!
I made an online reservation for a truck 2 weeks in advance. The day of my move and reservation, I call my Pick-Up Location to request that I be able to pick up my truck at 2:00 p.m. instead of my 1:00 p.m. reservation, out of convenience since the moving out process was taking longer than expected. I am then rudely informed that there is no truck, despite my reservation. I am told they don't know when a truck will be available either. I argue with the employee about this ("But I have a reservation!" "How are you going to resolve this?") until he grows annoyed and says "I can't help you, we don't know when the truck is coming." I throw in the towel, realizing that I'm fighting a losing battle. I hang up and frantically try to book a UHaul truck instead.
Two days later a pending charge appears on my account - a $50 no-cancellation fee from Budget Truck. These people had the AUDACITY to massively inconvenience me, and then CHARGE ME FOR IT? Cue several calls to Customer Service who were completely useless and sent me on wild goose chase calls to various numbers. Eventually they make me call the Pick Up Location again, and I talk to a different person than the rude employee who I had talked to on moving day. I get told that they'll call me back when things are cleared up. I never receive the call. The charge goes through. I paid $50 to be inconvenienced. Do not let this happen to you! A reservation with this company is not a guarantee, (as stated in the reservation email), but if it does not work out they may be RUDE TO YOU and then DEMAND MONEY FOR IT.

I'm a 34 year old female and I know nothing about cars or towing them. I went to Budget and explained to the employee that I was moving from MA to VA and that I would need a moving truck; I also asked about towing my car, a 2011 Subaru Legacy. The employee asked for my car information, and I gave it to him. He then went on to suggest renting a 16' truck and a 2-tire tow dolly. I listened to his suggestion, and made reservations for my moving date. On my confirmation print-out, it states that I will be towing a 2011 Subaru Legacy on a tow dolly.
I moved down to VA, and when I took my car off the tow dolly, it was making a funny noise. I took it to the Subaru dealership where I explained the situation, and they were very concerned that I had towed it on a dolly. They explained that because ALL Subaru Legacy’s are AWD, they should NEVER be towed on a 2-tire dolly; they can only be towed on flatbeds. They continued to say that on AWDs, all four wheels need to be moving, or not moving, at the same time; when two wheels are moving, and two wheels are not, it causes major problems. My car needs a new differential, which is going to cost $1,600. It may also need repairs to the transmission, or it might even need a new transmission, which could cost upwards of $8,000. I listened to exactly what the employee at Budget told me to do, and my car now has significant damages to it; it could cost anywhere from $1,600 - $9,600 to fix it.

Wish I could give negative star (except for roadside assistance and agent at receiving location). Those two contacts were the only bright spot in entire ordeal. Long story short, cross country move 24' truck and car carrier. Agent (manager I assume) at the pickup location very rude, unprofessional and untruthful. Second day of trip A/C went out in Montana, 95 degrees plus, roadside assistance was contacted, even though they were extremely sympathetic to our problem, we would not be able to get any assistance for 2 more days. And, using their words, "That truck should have never left the local area and a substantial refund should be accorded!" This last statement was also repeated by 2 CSR's from Budget!
After wrangling with them over 3 days after our return, their offer was $250 for our "inconvenience." They seem to like using that term throughout the entire CSR department. The offer, I was told was only good for 7 days then it would be withdrawn. Well, I ended up taking it even though our "inconvenience" could have very easily been a serious health issue after 3 days of 95 plus heat in an old beat-up wreck of a truck. Needless to say my relationship with Budget is over. Next time I will pay extra from U-Haul or Penske because I am sure it will be worth it!

I budgeted very carefully for this move out of our storage in Merrillville In. to Bourbon Mo. I called and checked on my confirmation. They had no truck, The representative was very rude although I remained civil. He refused to answer my request for a manager, hung up the phone on me, and hid in the back of the office when I went in to speak with someone. We are currently stuck in Chicago having to come here and stay with relatives and finally ending up renting a new hotel room while we look for another moving truck. We already spent 400.00 on hotels, 200.00 on food and had to pay for another months rental on our 2 storage's.
Also we had our movers with us on pick up day and had to pay them something. This new hotel is horrible But all we can afford. Another couple of hundred dollars. Plus the 6 tanks of gas. We have already burned more restaurant food totaling who knows what at this point. I have stopped logging it down. Did I also mention we have a disabled granddaughter with us who is wheel chair bound with extreme cerebral palsy?
WE received promises from a manager that they would look for a truck and contact us. 6 days have passed and 1 contact. Another Guy who did promise to keep in touch but had no truck on that Monday and we've not heard back from him. We are late getting back for my grand daughters hospital appointments in St. Louis and for the storage we had on hold in Mo. WE have started paying rent on a home we are not moved into, and I have no Idea what we will do for money to subsidize all the monthly bill money we've spent. We asked for the corporate office phone # and was told that they don't have one! I am in the process of looking for a lawyer for a lawsuit. Maybe class action?!

Now if I had wanted a 12 foot truck, I would have ordered it. The gentleman behind us in line had exactly the same issue. I was told by the Budget rep that I would have to take this up with consumer service. I just called them up and spoke to a lady that barely spoke English. Bottom line... No refund... So basically the attitude of Budget is tough luck. Beware of this company. They are not truthful and could care less about the customer. We ended up leaving some furniture because there was no room on the truck. Thanks for nothing Budget.

I picked Budget because that size truck was perfect for my daughter's studio apt. move into New Haven, CT, where the parking and unloading was going to be very difficult for a huge truck. One day before we get a call saying that the location had 4 people book for the one and only 12 ft. truck they had available. They offered a 16 ft truck, which we did not want. After complaining, they said they would search inventory in nearby places and call within 2 hours. I got a call after much later than 2 hours, saying 10 ft trucks were available in Ithaca, 1 hour away, New York City, 4 hours away, which is more time to drive than my actual move, during which I lost more time to book a different rental with U-Haul.
The only available option left to me was U-Haul, where their 15 ft truck is smaller than the 16 ft Budget truck. But I had to drive 20 miles to get it. Budget's reservation and supply chain system is extremely lacking. I found the U-Haul system to be much closer with the inventory available. I still have to pick up my truck at U-Haul today. Let's see what awaits me there.

Was supposed to pick up a moving truck today 24 ft. After reading other poor reviews I called to confirm the truck would be there. The girl in Cranberry Township PA S*ra stated, "it's not yet but they said there's a big one coming later." Needless to say 15 mins before pickup time they call and said "Sorry we don't have it and won't have it but we have a 16 ft." (No way that would fit my 3 bedroom condo into it). I said "That won't work. What are my options?" "Ummm you can call other locations and try to find the truck yourself. Sorry that's all I can do. I wish you luck." Seriously??? That's customer service??? It was 5:15pm. Other locations were closed. I called the 800 number 9 times now tonight and keep being told "We'll call you tomorrow morning."
Finally a airport location told me that this has been going on a lot recently. They overbook the 24 ft trucks a lot and that within a 100 mile radius of me there aren't any trucks available. I have movers coming at 10am tomorrow morning and now don't have the truck. I called Penske and U-Haul. Finally U-Haul found a 26 ft truck matching Budget price and beat it since I have to drive 68 miles to get it. Budget has gone way downhill lately and they don't seem to care. I told the customer service lady who was probably in India she should find a new job cause Budget won't last for long at this rate.
Word of advice if you need a truck and Budget is the best price... Stay away!!! Call U-Haul or Penske and try to get them to price match for you. I have used all 3 services before as I move frequently with my job and Budget by far has the worst customer service. Hope this helps save you some stress of last minute not there. Their terms and conditions are 100% that it doesn't guarantee anything except the price. Good luck and happy Move!!!

Shocking, I know. Basically, 8 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Had to call around in a panic and drive to Indianapolis to get a vehicle. I fairness, U-Haul was very responsive and helpful. Update: To add insult to injury, I got charged a $50 “No show” fee. Really? Way to piss people off. I would also note that it took them 1 day to apply the fee, but I have to wait 5-7 business days to “process” the refund. All-in-all, a great big ** to Budget. I received a confirmation email on 7/28/16. I called the local office (Airport Rd.) where I was scheduled to pick up my truck to confirm they would have a truck available. I spoke with a woman (I didn't get her name) who assured me they had my truck available. She also explained that they were located inside the airport. I arrived on 7/30/16 to pick up my truck and I was informed that there was no truck available. I was livid.
I told the woman that I just called and confirmed 2 days ago and the woman I spoke with assured me they had a truck for me. She said she is the only woman that works there and I never spoke with her. She said, "No, no I would have never told you that." In a nutshell, she blew me off and told me it's not their issue and that I needed to call the 1-800 number because they made the reservation. I will be honest, I became very enraged at this point and I called her a ** and walked out of the store. I saw a gentleman come in a few minutes later so I went back in the store. I will not be doing business with Budget Avis rentals again! I had an experience about a year ago where I rented a 26 foot truck from the Northgate/Colerain location. On the day I scheduled to pickup the truck I was informed that there was no truck available because a customer decided to keep for an extra day. After getting the runaround I finally was given an option to drive to another location to pickup a truck. I was not happy but had to have a truck that day so I picked it up. STRIKE 1 for me!
I decided to give Budget Avis rentals another chance here recently. I booked the same size truck on Monday July 18th for Wednesday the 20th as I wanted to give them a chance to get a truck in. Because of my first experience I called in on Tuesday the 19th to make sure a truck would be there the next day as I was hiring several workers for the day and had to confirm with them that we were good to go. On this day, I spoke with Carlos and he confirmed that the truck would be there the next day. I asked him several times and explained my previous experience to him as I wanted to prevent it from happening again.
On Wednesday, July 20th, I received a call as I was driving to the location to pick the truck up that there was no truck there. Pick up time was 9am and I had 2 guys I was paying $15 an hour that arrived at 8:30 am. I was told by Grant that he would call around to get a truck there for me. At 11am I still had no call back or answer to what was going on. I called in and was immediately put on hold and then eventually hung up on. I then preceded to call back 9 more times before finally getting a hold of Grant.
Again, he told me he would call me back as he was going to check all the locations in the area for the truck again. At this point I have two workers that I have paid $75 between the two and no work has been accomplished. Grant informed me he would call me back in 5 minutes with an answer. I should've known! It was now 2pm and I was out $165 with two workers sitting around. Called Northgate back and received no answer. STRIKE 2 for me!
At this point the only option was to call corporate. I spoke with a David ** who took my info and was going to have the Regional Dealer call me. He also asked me how far I would be willing to drive to pickup a truck. I answered and said, "0 miles. I booked the truck for Northgate/Colerain". Not too long after talking to him I received a call from the regional dealer (Naz). I explained the situation and told him I paid to workers all day long. I asked him what he was willing to do for me. He told me he could comp me the miles to the closest dealer with a truck. That was definitely not good enough.
I suggested a fair solution for him to comp me one day free minus the cost of the miles in addition to the two days I already had booked. He immediately said "we cannot do that." I then explained to him that even if he gave me a free day which is only equal to about $50 that I still would be losing as I paid my workers at this point $165 to stand around. He then agreed and said he would add a free day along with the miles to the closest dealer which was about 15 minutes out of my way each way.
The next day, (Thursday July 21st) I drove to the Avis Budget Sharonville location and picked up a truck. The owner Linda was pleasant to talk to and you could tell it was her business by the way she treated us. We took the truck and used it all day Thursday and Friday which were our paid days. The free day would've been Saturday. We decided to call in and see if we could turn the truck in early and use the free day another time. We reached out to Linda and she said she could take the truck back. She also informed us that Naz only informed her that we would get 10 free miles each way for driving to this location. NO FREE DAY! She said she would have Naz call us by the end of the day. Of course no call, no call Saturday or Sunday either.
I then called in on Monday and said I never received a call. Was told he was off or in meetings on Monday and Linda said she would have him call me Tuesday. NO CALL! STRIKE 3! I will now be calling my credit card company to decline this transaction. I have left reviews everywhere possible with my experience. I would suggest taking a closer look at Naz, your regional dealer, as well as the reps at the Northgate/Colerain location.

My Budget experience was terrible. 45 minutes into the trip the truck broke down. Something to do with the transmission solenoid. After 3 hours back on the road, I obviously missed my drop off which was 800 miles away (with a driving partner) which cost me an extra night. When I dropped the truck off (at a different location) the person who received the truck said that this vehicle never should have left the parking lot on these bald tires. Looking at the tires, the front two were bald, as in smooth - no tread - on the inner half of each tire. Maybe I should have looked at them prior to leaving the dealer but I didn't. I guess I believe that people wouldn't put others lives in jeopardy with bald tires driving 800 miles at higher highway speeds. Budget will credit me 10% - not a chance. You need help, you ask to speak to a manager and no one ever comes? I got help from some friends, made it to the airport 10 mins before my flight. So stressful! Never ever again! I want a full refund. That is the only thing that would make me a little happy.

My daughter rented a Budget Truck from dealer on Hubert St. in Raleigh, NC. Gentlemen who works there was very thorough in inspecting the entire truck before we drove away to make sure he recorded all the pre-existing dings, every scratch. Too bad they neglected to check the tires. Two of the tires have slits on the inner walls. All the tires are low. Too bad we loaded it up before my husband checked the condition of the tires. TOO BAD WE RENTED FROM BUDGET! As well as faulty tires, the truck hasn't been inspected in OVER ONE YEAR. This vehicle shouldn't even be on the road. Obviously, Budget doesn't care about the safety of its clients. We could have DIED on the highway. BUDGET RENTAL SHOULDN'T BE IN BUSINESS.

Booked a reservation online, and immediately received a confirmation of my reservation. Two days before the move I received an email confirming my reservation. Called the 800# on my confirmation the day before the move, and my reservation was confirmed. I was good to go... or so I thought. Arrived at Budget the day of the move and they were closed. Called the 800# again and was told, that the pick up location was closed and she would email someone and we would receive a call back. Never received that call back. I was completely confused as to how a reservation could be made when the location is not even open for business. What kind of technology is their website built on? What kind of customer service is that?
Standing in the parking lot of the location, called the 800# again, and was informed it was up to "me", that I should have ALSO called the direct location to confirm my reservation, and I thought I had. I called the number listed on the confirmation, how was I suppose to know that it was not the location. Honestly, I called the number that was recommended I call on the reservation and the confirmation. The staff at the 800# were very scripted, and couldn't care less that I had movers standing around, and had everything all planned for the move. They couldn't care less. Called Uhaul, and within 3 minutes, they found me a truck, and did everything they could to help us. No scripts, nothing.
The day after the move I called again, and all I heard was "you should have called the location" and I would ask how I would know that. No information was outlined on the reservation or confirmation that I needed to call them. And, when I called to confirm the reservation, why didn't someone say something then to call the location directly? Why don't they list on the confirmation to call the location? I will never rent a Budget truck again. I have always rented through Budget Car Rental when traveling, but will no longer use them. If you are desperate, and call Budget, do so at your own risk. If I had read these reviews before booking my reservation, I would have followed another path.

We are paying movers by the hour. No "we are sorry". Budget says they will see if they can find a truck. Hours pass, no call from Budget. We begin covering the metro area going from one Budget Licensee to another. Finally 6 hours later, we find a truck. Budget says if we want to complain, the rental has to be closed out. We, it has been closed out and NOTHING! If this is the rental experience you want. Go for it. No more Budget Airport Rentals of truck rentals for us.

I rented a moving truck in August of 2015 from Southside Storage in Sacramento on Stockton Blvd Near Florin Rd. On this day as soon as I had rented the truck and drove around the corner I turned around to return the truck, because it was making loud noises. The owner of this store (John) got in the truck, drove it around and came back to tell me nothing was wrong and he would not trade me for a different truck. He said there would be additional charges if I did trade. So I drove across the street to my home I was moving from and the movers loaded the Budget Rental Truck. I got in the truck with my two children and drove about 3 miles when I lost control of the truck because of the entire tire falling off the axle. There was a loud noise and then at the same time the brakes went out. There was a lot of black smoke and we hit a tree then ended up tipping over to the side where we came to a stop.
I pulled my children out of the burning truck while nearby woman driving a SMUD truck helped me put the fire out. All of our belongings were destroyed as well as suffering from injuries accrued in this tragic accident because of the lack of maintaining this truck. The Budget truck has still yet to reimburse me for any of our belongings or injuries. They have even billed me. I feel harassed now by the third party billing company calling me on behalf of Budget. They have yet to settle my claim I filed in August 2015.

When I got there he didn't have the right truck so he said he would give me some extra miles... 15 in case I had to make another trip... umm... it was 23 round trip... so that didn't make sense. When he rang it up my 20% discount was gone. He promised he would not charge my card without fixing my original discount. He just charged my card anyways. When I called he said he would give me 6$ out of the bill... I paid the same amount for a smaller truck and unconvinced!!! Wtf? I moved so I'M not paying my gas to drive there. He won't send a check. Illegal? Yes! I did not authorize that amount!!! I called Budget and they don't care. I'M serious!

I guess I should have read reviews while researching truck rentals. The website let me reserve a truck (with a nice 20% discount), and I got an email confirmation. Then I got a phone call from the pickup location saying they had no trucks available. I called the 800 number, and was told that the system will let you make a reservation without an available vehicle because "it's not a contract". Then, when I asked him to cancel my reservation, he told me that there would be no cancellation fee because I cancelled in time. Wait... what? A reservation isn't a contract for them to provide a truck, but if I hadn't cancelled "in time", I would have been charged a cancellation fee! No way.

Then sometime later a guy calls me to say he may have found one, but when I call him 10 minutes later, he says that he never called me. I had a reservation for a truck. As I arrived at the location in Orlando, there was no truck for me. After several long dissatisfying phone calls with the customer service which did not care about my problem, they sent me to another location across the city. I asked several times if this location has the truck which I specially reserved and they confirmed. Already several hours wasted this day I took a taxi 20mi to the other location on East Colonial and they just told me, “Ohh no, we don't have the truck!!!” The staff (Chris) there was very rude and complimented me out of the store because I just could not believe what just happens here. They did not care at all and said it is what it is and would not take any step to help! Not finished yet... I called all other locations around Orlando and found a truck in Tampa!!! 65 miles away.
I drove there at 6903 N Dale Mabry Hwy and already wasted almost one day but I thought the mileage charge is better than other companies, so let’s just deal with it. The Budget location in Tampa had the last truck in Florida I guess and I was finally on the road, at least out of the gate where the truck broke down. They had other trucks but all out of service and again no help at all from this location and not at all from the customer service!!! I rented a truck from Penske. The Missoula Montana Budget Truck rental at 2000 West Central Avenue is the worst customer service I have ever encountered. We rented a 16' truck in Kalispell for a one way drop off with a two-day rental. We returned the truck on time in Missoula with a full tank of gas and 3 days later my credit card company alerted me that Budget had charged me an additional $219.14. When I called they claimed the truck had been returned two days late. I have two witnesses who were there with me upon our "on time" return and a gas receipt showing the date and time I filled it for return to Budget.
They refused to acknowledge any mistake on their end and accused me of implying aliens picked up the truck and used it for two days, rude and unprofessional to say the least. It's more likely that something shady on their end happened. Then I called the corporate headquarters and tried to get this resolved. They merely called the vendor then said they can't do anything about it because the vendor is claiming it was turned in late. I'm going to court on this one. Never again Budget!

I rented a 16' truck and auto hauler trailer on 4/22/16 for a drive from Baltimore, MD to Upstate SC. I lost a wheel bearing and blew a tire on the trailer at 9:15 PM in SC approx. 130 miles from my final destination. Called Budget just to be redirected to their Road-side assistance vendor. NO customer service skills!! Would not listen to me when I told them it was a wheel bearing that caused the problem. 3-4 phone calls later (3.5 hours) they send a guy to repair the tire. Then when he tells them it's a wheel bearing they tell me due to the time there's no one available to do the repair or bring me a replacement trailer. In the meantime, I'm still stuck on the side of the interstate at 1:00 AM in the morning stranded!!
After 2 more calls they send a tow truck to get me off the interstate. Person arrived but didn't have resources to move the trailer with the car on it! We ended up taking the car off the trailer - putting it on his roll-off truck - and me driving the truck with the now 3 wheel trailer to the next exit where I had to leave the trailer and car. I had to go back the next day with my wife (260 mile round trip & 5 hours) to retrieve our car. Budget came and got the trailer.
When I called Budget to request a refund for the trailer since I was unable to arrive at my destination with the trailer/car and a 6 hour delay PLUS another 5 hour round-trip (plus fuel) to retrieve my car... I got nothing but a run-around. First person offered me $40. Got transferred to supervisor who offered me $80. Was told I could email management (whoever that is). Sent email and was offered $129 credit with a "take it or leave it note"!!
I replied and asked to speak to someone in upper management and was told they were upper management and I had 72 hours to accept the $129 credit or I'd get nothing! SERIOUSLY - I'd already rented two trucks from Budget within a month for my move to SC and this is the treatment I receive? Needless to say - my next rental was NOT from Budget! My advice - take the Budget quote to a competitor and let them match the price so you can deal with a PROFESSIONAL company who understands the value of repeat customers!!

I am disabled due to brain injuries and live on disability income. I made reservations well in advance to reserve a Budget rental truck in Portland, OR. My guaranteed reservation was for $512. I'd also made another reservation in Sept for my move down to FL. When a Budget reminder popped up on my screen I inadvertently cancelled it thinking it was the later one. I immediately realized that I'd cancelled the wrong one and called and emailed Budget to reinstate my reservation. They were unwilling and unable to help. The rental fee shot up to $879 for the same truck. I had no choice but to reserve it. The next day I hired Uber to take me from the airport hotel to Budget several miles away. When I arrived I was told that they didn't have my truck. I was also told that with today's technology that even a reservation confirmation doesn't guarantee a truck. They said it would take some time to locate a truck.
They suggested we have lunch (on our dime) across a 4 lane highway while we wait by. Three hours later, no truck. I was frustrated and angry. My reservation was for 10:00 a.m. and it was clear that despite my best planning, we'd have to drive 4 hours south through the national forests in the dark. They had no idea why it was taking so long for the truck was only 15 mins away. Another half hour and the truck arrived and with that, the price of the truck shot up to $1360+. Why??? Because I was over a barrel. I had my luggage and no transportation. I walked out, deciding to rent a car to drive to Bend and then rent a U-Haul from there. I reserved a car with Avis, called Uber again and driven to downtown Portland to pick up the car.
When we walked into the dumpy Avis office a very unkempt man of few words walked out and said he had no cars. I said the same thing I said to Budget, "I have a confirmed reservation". Verbatim, I got the very same response that I got from Budget. "With technology today..." Walking out of the Avis office I saw the Budget and Avis decals on the door. Makes sense. Same script, same poor business practices! I then called Enterprise, who picked me up and I was driving away in one of their cars within 15 mins. My U-Haul truck cost me less than $1200, but it was far more than I could to afford to pay. Again I didn't have any choice. I'd flown across country and this was my only chance to get my things out of storage after over a year.
Between the Uber drivers, the $167+ for Enterprise and the additional expenses for the U-Haul truck, my move across country well exceeded my moving budget. I now worry about how I will pay my rent for the summer months when I don't receive my disability income. Can Budget and Avis be sued for breach of contract? How are they free to charge whatever they choose on a whim, but the customer has no recourse. For someone with a TBI, this type of stress and the need for avoidable problem solving can be quite overwhelming. It's unreasonable and avoidable duress placed on a disabled woman! What recourse do I have?

On 5/9/16, I reserved a moving truck online with Budget. My pick-up date was 5/26/16. My rate was $23.96/day, $0.63/mile, plus $5.57 taxes & fees for an estimated total of $29.53. On 5/24/16 (15 days after I made my reservation and two days from my moving day), I was called by the pickup location stating that Budget overbooked trucks at their location and he no longer had a truck for me. My only option was to call Budget Corporate.
I called Budget Corporate immediately. The rep was very friendly and said she would escalate the issue to the Inventory Department and have someone call me within the next 2 hours. Someone called me within an hour and a half. He said he had good news! He found the same size truck at another location just 10 miles away. He assured me that everything with my reservation would remain the same, and for my inconvenience he would also give me 30 free miles. Great! Not so great. He said I would receive an email confirmation of the location change within 2 hours. I never received it.
I called the new location to make sure they had my reservation. He said yes he had my reservation, and he gave me the price, which he received directly from Budget: $59.99/day, plus $0.99/mile plus $9.23 taxes and fees for a total of $89.69. This is a $60 increase, and he had no knowledge of any free miles. He said I would have to call Budget again to have the price changed. There was nothing he could do. He gave me the direct extension for the Budget representative he spoke with, so I called that Budget representative directly. The Budget rep said for me to call the local pickup location back and tell him my rate because "he must be looking at something different, your price didn't double." I told him I will not call the local rep again and that Budget needs to take care of this and have the price corrected. He said he would work on the situation and call me back tonight. Well I never heard back from him.
In the meantime, I received a confirmation email from Budget with the new location, as well as the new rates, which I never agreed to. I called the Budget corporate rep back. He said that he had escalated my issue to another department but never heard back from them, and this is why he didn't call me back. He will put in an urgent request to have the price corrected and call me back tomorrow (moving day). I told him this is unacceptable and I need to hear back from him today or I'm cancelling the truck, and I'm not paying a $50 late cancellation fee. I gave him 6 hours to remedy the situation and call me back. He didn't. I called him again. He wouldn't answer his phone.
I called the customer service line and had to go through the entire situation with them all over again. They still had the increased rates in their system so I cancelled the truck. I was assured they would not charge me any cancellation or other fees. I spent at least 3 hours on the phone with this company to never even receive my moving truck. Now I'm borrowing pickup trucks and trailers from friends when I booked my moving truck responsibly over two weeks prior to moving day. Absolutely ridiculous. I will never use or recommend this company.

The truck steering wheel shook and moved so bad and if you hit the brakes the truck humped to the right uncontrollably. We followed Budget's protocol and called Roadside. We slowly and carefully drove the truck back to our residence and waited for mechanic. He told us because it was loaded he could not drive it and it had no leaks but the tires were not round. He explained that Customer Service would call us on the morning because it was after 9 pm PST.
In the morning we called and Budget had us drive the truck almost 40 min away to Budget's Mechanic. Now it is Monday morning and I have a $50 charge (not a hold, a charge) for a service I didn't even use. Just a lousy "I'm sorry for the inconvenience and you should see the refund in 5-7 days!" There was not to be ANYTHING charged until I had the truck in my possession, then there would have been a hold until I returned the truck.
How can you charge someone without confirmation that the service was provided? Why is it impossible for a large company like BUDGET to not know where they have trucks? I had to find a different rental company, couldn't get a truck until the next day. Which if you have ever had to move you would understand that this is NOT a small inconvenience. I don't write comments on minor dispute but these guys crossed the line, I think. I have a significantly long, brain spinning incidents: when I reserved one way truck from Lewisville, TX to Montgomery, AL. I reserved truck at about three weeks ahead. I like everything organized and done it on time. My pickup time 04/30/16 11.00 AM. I could not reach there because my flight got cancelled due to weather in Dallas. I booked another flight and was going to reach Dallas at 3.00 PM but the truck rental store would close at 3.00 PM so I could not pick it up from there. I requested if I could pick up from another store that opens until 4.00 PM. Talked with customer service. Inventory manager called me with confirmation and provided me the new pickup location and tel. I was so happy, and thanked him. I was still in Alabama by this time and I arranged a friend to drive me from Dallas airport to the pickup store. All was well until now.
I called the store just to make sure I and Budget Truck rental are on the same page. Unfortunately, that store did not have a truck. The guy who even works for Budget Truck Rental in that location said, he was not aware of me picking up truck, and he just rented a truck to somebody else 5 minutes before I called. This store is about 45 minutes away from my address. I just was going to go there (only for that day) because I needed it so bad since I had to get back to work. Then I called customer service (CS) to notify what inventory manager told me is not actually the reality on ground. Now, I was concerned about the trustworthiness of Budget. Even manager lies? I called original location to make sure I still have my reservation and the truck is available when they open store the following day. Low of low!! Inventory manager had cancelled my reservation and that truck was already given to somebody else. I was shocked.
After a while, received manager's call. My question to him was why did he cancel my reservation without telling me and why did he give me the false information about the truck at second location? He got pissed off. All he had to say was he is working hard to help me out. I could not believe when he actually hung up on me before answering my question. Before he hung up he told me, I had no choice but to go to second location (45 minutes away) and pick up the truck following morning. I had more questions for him but he hung up: (1) How can I trust you if there will be a truck next morning when you have already lied to me? (2) I did not reserve three weeks ahead of time to drive 45 minutes just to get the truck. (3) Why did you cancel my reservation without even asking me?
I called CS again after I landed in Dallas. I felt like I was talking with a school bully. Inventory manager was the worst of all on attitude. I really wanted to bring that into somebody's attention how I was treated. So, I asked for supervisor and CS put me on hold for about 30 minutes and then I had to disconnect the call. I did not think they cared to talk to me resolve the issue. It did not seem they values a customers a bit. Never dealt with companies that bad. I waited for few hours to see just in case they will call me back with solution. I was wrong again. "Of course, it is Budget Truck Rental and what you expect?" My friend screamed on frustration.
I called them back again. I had to end it I was going through the worst nightmare. Now, CS says it like if it was my fault. His Budget created story was I agreed to drive 45 minutes away the following day when I already have reservation in 2 miles distance. He did not even say "sorry". I was surprised. But, I had enough and I did not care if I had to pay more money to other truck rentals. Due to short time constraints Penske did not have any truck. Luckily, U-Haul still had one for me. Now, when I see Budget it takes me to the bad memory lane, whether it be Budget Rental Car or Budget Rental Truck.

I understand that I brought the truck back with 3/4 of a tank of gas, versus the full tank.
I called and spoke to a representative who advised that I had rented the truck for 2 days. I stated, "absolutely not. I rented the truck for 1 day, and brought it back within my 24 hour time frame". He advised I was charged $25.00 for being late. I was then told, because I did not bring the truck back when the office was open, I was charged for being late. I stated, "It is not my duty to bring a truck that I rented for a 24 hour time frame back early because the office is not going to be open". I then advised, hence the reason for the drop key box.
I was also told I was charged $30 for not bringing the truck back full. Another $11.10 for the gas. The truck rental itself was $23.99. I was also charged $.89 cents per mile and I drove 25 miles. The representative also told me that the service person that rented me the truck said, "if you don't bring it back when we are open, you will be charged another day". I informed the person I was speaking to, that is so very not true. I was never told that and had I been told that not only would the truck that I had reserved not be there because I didn't rent it far enough in advance, and if I did not bring it back before they closed, that I would be charged another day, I would have NEVER rented in the first place.
$23.99 + $41.10 + $22.25 = $87.34. I then asked the representative to explain what exactly I am being charged $195 for. He then disconnected me and the phone started to ring nonstop. Not only did the first representative treat me extremely poorly and told me it was my bad for reserving the truck the same day, and there was nothing he could do for me. But, I was then charged some outrageous fees that are completely bogus and without explanation. I then called back again and spoke to a representative that then said, "here, let me give you the right phone number to call". I am so extremely upset with this experience and do not understand how this company can get away with stealing the way they have with me.

I rented a Budget truck on 4-22-16 from 5730 S Middlebelt Westland MI. to Margate FL - a 1,580 mile drive. I'm a woman that done it all alone. The lady in Westland was very rude. 1/2 way down I noticed that every time I pumped gas it was leaking out. I was told by the lady in Westland that I couldn't do anything because I declined the auto protection plan. When I drop off the truck at Margate FL the guy looked at the truck's gas line and told me it was dry rotted. I called customer service. I was given $30 back!?!?? I asked to talk to a manager. I was put on hold then hung up on!!! The amount of money and gas wasted not to mention what could of happen. Like the tuck blowing up!!! I would like a refund!!! The only one who seem to care was the gentleman in Margate location. I use Budget all the time. NEVER AGAIN after this...

I wish I had thought to check reviews before doing business with this company. I made an online reservation for a 24 ft moving truck. I received a call 3 1/2 hours before I was scheduled to pick up the truck informing me that it was not available. Although the website was "still" showing the size/type truck that I needed as available at "seven" locations within a 15-mile radius, the CSR stated that not a single 24 ft truck was available anywhere in my area. The CSR stated that reservations only guaranteed a rate. The location, the date, the time, the equipment and the actual truck itself listed on my reservation were only "preferences." So basically, there is no such thing as a reservation with Budget. At best, you can receive a price guarantee on a truck that you may or may not be able to rent.
To make matters worse, the Customer Service Department is a joke. The CSR offered me a 16 ft truck in place of the 24 ft truck. Having no other options 3 1/2 hours before my move, I had to take the truck he offered. I explained to the CSR that the smaller truck would mean having to make two trips and that this was not a "local" move. This would put me in the position of paying for an additional 170 miles of fuel, and would cost me an additional 5 hours in moving time. He offered me $10.00 discount... Yes TEN DOLLARS. Budget Truck Rental is not dependable and they offer no customer service. Their prices are the best for one-way moves... But what good is that when you are left having to find another alternative 3 1/2 hours before your scheduled move time?

I rented a Budget Truck because I was moving from San Antonio to Houston. The prices were very appealing to me compared to U-Haul. When I returned the truck in Houston the female off the i-45 location was the rudest, nastiest person I had ever encountered at a work station. She threatened to charge me with unnecessary extra fees despite my receipts I had in my hand and followed me out to my vehicle continuing to threaten me. I tried to stay calm and ignore her by working with the other employee In the store but she continued to try and pick a fight with me. She ignored me when I spoke to ask questions and responded to me with, "You can leave now. I was trying to be nice." I put in 2 formal complaints and no management ever returned my call. No employee should ever have the right to continue to treat customers this way. I am done with these people.

I would never recommend Budget Truck Rentals. We picked the truck up in Sarasota, Florida to take our parents' furniture back to the siblings in New York, Ohio, Indianapolis, and Michigan. We rented the truck for 9 days which was $1216.31. When we picked up the rental, they did not take a credit card from our bank as a credit. They did it as a debit, and we had a limit set on our debit card and it was a Saturday which the banks were closed. Then they didn't have the paper to pack things. Had to get that from U-Haul.
After delivering everything, we realize we only needed the truck for 7 days. When trying to return the vehicle to get a credit for the day is not used, we were told they can't do that. They don't give refunds. The transmission slips, it was dirty. We had to clean it. Right side safety mirror doesn't stay in place. I had to hold it so we could move over when changing lanes. They claim in their ad that there's no surprises. Well surprise!!! This company is a ripoff!!! Don't waste your money!!! You think you're getting a good deal because they say they're cheap. And that there is no truck available in the metro Atlanta area. She said their location just received the reservation today. Considering that my husband spoke with someone at the location yesterday to change the pickup time, and they had the reservation then, how is that possible? This review is not against the location but for the company as a whole. The customer service (CS) is the worst I've ever experienced. I went through Budget because they don't charge per mile driven. I was moving from Texas to CA. The experience was a nightmare from beginning to end. First I made my online reservation. You have to enter in all your credit card information to reserve the truck. Understandable.
Well once I arrived to my pick up location the rep helping me stated there was only one truck (it just happened to be the size I reserved). She actually confessed to me that there were two other moving truck rentals that day and she didn't have a truck for me. She started laughing because she confessed that she wasn't going to call them and give them a heads up! So please take note that even though you make a reservation doesn't mean you will have a truck! Budget will not and does not make courtesy calls to advise of this inconvenience.
Next we went out to do the truck inspection. The only thing we found was that the horn did not work. At this time I didn't know it was illegal to drive without a horn and the rep also failed to tell me that. Per Budget's T&C they are to offer you another vehicle and no extra cost to the customer. I continued with the purchase as we need to start our drive to CA soon. Well the following day we got up in the early AM to start our drive. We started the truck and went to load the car onto the trailer. At this time we noticed one of the latches were broken. We had to jimmy the trailer just to hold my car. After we did this the truck stalled out. We continued to restart the truck but it continued to stall.
We called Budget's Roadside Assistance. The mechanic said nothing was wrong with the truck. It was safe to drive and it was only stalling because it was so cold outside and that if we continued to start the truck it would eventually warm up and not stall. Well the truck finally started and we were on our way. Well if you have ever driven through TX you will know on the I10 there are many areas where there is no cellphone service. While we were driving through these areas the truck completely shut off out of nowhere at full speeds! We were forced to rapidly pull over trying not to hit semi trucks all around. Due to there being no service we were unable to call Roadside Assistance for the total of 8 times. We were stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere!
After this nightmare and finally making it CA we noticed the brakes were not working as normal. We would press on the brakes and all you would hear is air pumping out! We overshot our stopping points by 5 feet at times. This could have killed us or someone else. Finally we made it home. I noticed behind the driver's seat was a truck inspection sheet. Every time it's inspected someone signs and dates it. Well the last inspection on this truck was done 18 months ago. Per Budget's T&C they are to do a 10 point inspection every time the truck is brought back. This goes to show you even their mechanics are lazy and don't care about the safety of others.
So now comes the time for the truck to be returned. Well after all that I don't feel safe putting my life risk any longer. So naturally I call CS to have them pick up the truck as it's inoperable. CS transfers me to Roadside Assistance. Roadside Assistance was like trying to explain life to a two year old. They just don't get it. I finally get someone to help. They told me a tow truck was on its way. Well when I opened the door it was a mechanic. He says he needs to inspect the vehicle. He fixed the trailer and adds coolant. (It was completely out.) I told him I was not going to drive the truck as the brakes didn't work. He said he would make a few phone calls for me and a tow truck driver would be calling me when they are on their way.
The next day still no call. I call Budget again! Well he never requested a tow. He doesn't even have authorization to request a tow truck! He put in the system that the truck was drivable! So now I'm at square one again! I needed to get this truck towed away. After hours I finally got someone to agree to send a tow truck but Budget said I needed to pay for the tow. This was totally expected at this point! So I placed my request with their towing service department. They say someone will call me when they are on their way. I finally get the call but it's to tell me they found a location 2 miles from my house. That I needed to drive it there and they would not come pick up the truck!
All I could do was laugh at this point. I think I had gone delirious. I drove the truck just so I could close this case and submit all of this to CS. Case was finally considered closed. I called CS requesting all the charges I paid for the truck to be credited back to me. After all I had gone through they reversed $160.00 because I only called RSA once. They wouldn't take into consideration the other 8 breakdowns because I didn't call. Well how could I with no service! Use Caution with Budget!!

I reserved a truck two weeks in advance. I went to pick it up yesterday and the location did not have the truck. I had to drive to TWO more locations just to get my truck and tow dolly. The men at the third location hooked up the dolly and said I needed to keep my car on to allow it to coast in neutral. Obviously a few hours later my battery died. When I got home to load, the tow dolly had come loose. I called roadside assistance to fix it. They did and said I was good to go. I drove from Philly to Baltimore, and by the time I got to the Baltimore suburbs (about 2 hours), my car came unhooked from the tow dolly and was dragging behind the truck. Thank god it didn't roll into traffic. My car was severely damaged, and the battery was dead.
I called roadside assistance again, and they said they would rush, but after an hour I called back and they hadn't placed the order. I called triple A to unhook my car and jump it. I drove my car and the truck separately to a safe location, called customer service and they said I had to wait until the next day to make a claim. Budget road side assistance called me two hours after a friend picked me up and took me home. I was supposed to leave Baltimore for Chicago last night, but I am cancelling my entire reservation because I do not feel safe driving their equipment. I reserved a truck to be picked up in Alexandria, LA. Three days before the date of pick-up, I received a phone call to confirm a pick-up in Leesville, LA, 60 miles away. When I said, "no, I reserved a pick-up in Alexandria," they tried to tell me I changed it. Finally they admitted that they didn't have any trucks in Alexandria and I'd have to go to Leesville to get one. At that point it was too late to rent from another company. After talking to both local agencies (Leesville & Alexandria) and two national customer service groups the end result was take it or leave it. This resulted in a waste of two hours each for me and for my wife, additional fuel and additional miles. It seemed to me that given the confirmed reservation for Alexandria, Budget should have delivered the truck to Alexandria rather than requiring me to go get it. Additionally, the truck was filthy inside and out. All in all, a lousy experience.

When we turned the ignition on by turning the key, it broke in half, one half remained in the slot. It is annoying to know that Budget only provides one key to the truck, so we had to call locksmith to get the key duplicated. It wasted 3 hours and caused so much stress as I called different places. I returned the new purchased key to Budget drop-off location. The locksmith told that such keys with deep cutting designs break easily. I rented a truck for a long distance move from the Westheimer Rd. location in Houston, TX. I was moving from Houston to Maryland in the winter. I have to tell you that this has been the worst moving experience of my life. When I got there the truck and trailer were not hooked up. I had to wait for over an hour for some guy named Big John to show up and hook it up to the truck. At first I was given the new truck with cruise control and only 20k on the ODO by the staff lady there that morning.
When Big John showed up he switched me to an old truck with no cruise control and 181k on the ODO. He said that he needed that truck for an in town move later that day. They had three other new trucks on the lot but the only one I could take was the old cruddy truck. The truck was not only old, it constantly pulled to the right. It was a fight keeping it on the road. Have you ever driven 1500 miles with no cruise control? Well let me tell you, it sucks big time. The trailer he attached had a broken jack and it would not jack up all the way. The solution to that was to remove a bolt holding it on and tie it up so that it wouldn't drag on the ground. Nice huh?
Around the time I hit the mountains in Tennessee the brakes started making a very strange noise and the truck was so unstable because of it that I couldn't drive more than about 45 mph the rest of the way to Maryland. I couldn't get Budget on the phone since it was Sunday and had to just pray that I made it in one piece. This was the worst move I have ever had and it sure was not worth the thousand dollars I spent on this moving equipment. Why did Big John change me from a new truck to a cruddy old truck you might wonder?
The answer is simple. He didn't want to get rid of one of his newer trucks on the lot. He didn't care if it risked my life and made my move a nightmare. I should have learned my lesson the first time with Budget. They suck big time. They don't care either. They could care less about giving you a good value for your money. What a disgrace. Someone will get hurt one day and I hope they sue this company into the dirt.

I made a reservation to pick up a Budget rental moving truck on a certain date prior to the date that I needed it. The day that I went to pick it up the dealer looked at my paperwork and stated that there were no more trucks and that it was not his problem that we did not have a truck. Before entering the building, we circled around the back of the store and saw there was indeed a Budget moving truck that was available in the back. I informed him of this and he decided to say that it was not his problem and he did not have any more trucks. I then asked "why didn't you advise me of that as I made the reservation prior to the pickup date?" He said that he did not have time for that and it was none of my business.
During this whole conversation he would not look at my husband and I and continued to issue rude comments as a young girl under 18 continued selling their store items that she was too underage to sell to customers and he would not acknowledge us. She said it was our fault that we did not get the rental today. I told him that I would call the police to reconcile the situation as he continued to not listen to us. We then contacted the police and before they arrived on site the dealer began closing the store before his closing hours. The Budget rental website advised that the dealer would be open until 8pm. He began closing his store before 7pm which was the time of our reserved pick up.
Talking with the police they requested he issued a cancellation of the truck rental which the man from the store gave us, while at the same time still spouting out negative remarks to my husband and I. I advised them that I have to move tonight and that I needed a truck. All the man told us was there was nothing that he could do. Basically telling us that although we made a reservation he admitted he gave the reserved rental truck to someone else before my pick up time as he said that he had three rental trucks and he had already given all three of them out that day. If I would not have gotten the cancellation that was ordered from the police my credit card would have been charged a fifty-dollar cancellation fee when there were no trucks available to be picked up. The man did offer to cancel it during our dispute but made no move to cancel it for us until the police came.
When calling Budget customer service at the time of the event they stated that they would not be able to help me until 7:30am that next morning. I continued to advise them that I needed to have my moving truck today and they said there was no place open that would have a rental for me and that I would have to wait. I contacted customer service the next day and all they did was tell me that they were going to file a complaint and that was the end of it. I asked them several times how will I know that something would be done and they said that was their procedure.
With a little more pushing I got a contact email to corporate after I asked the customer service rep what exactly was going to happen to the dealer because I do not want this to happen to anyone else and then she gave me an email address to contact cooperate, but offered only a SORRY when I told them that I had to contact U-Haul to get a moving truck. I then went online and saw that I needed a service number to file an extensive complaint. That information was not provided to me and I had to call the customer service representative back and get a service number from them after explaining my issue again.
When I went to U-Haul to get a rental the customer service rep there advised me that Budget always overbooks and does not have enough trucks as customers that have booked with Budget truck rentals come into the U-Haul office on different occasions with the same problem as me. Budget truck rental is unreliable in honoring the customers online and/or phone reservations and does not try to compensate for people who do not get their rental as promised. Their customer service and reservation department are in need of examination and auditing so future customers do not have to go through what I had to go through.
I never had a problem with renting cars from Budget but in renting the moving trucks from them, their customer service and dealers display unwelcoming customer service and care for their customers. While lying to them stating that they will get what their reservation states, and do not notify customers if any changes occur so that the customer can make other plans. I would like the truth to be known that if you make a reservation with Budget rental trucks the dealer has the right to NOT notify you about them not having trucks and also have the dealer and customer service team contact customers when they no longer have trucks for them to rent. The dealer told me that he did not have time to call people and tell them that he no longer has rental truck. Well his customers do not have time to expect they are going to get a rental and then not have one.

I rented a 16 ft truck with an auto carrier from the Seattle area and returning it to ST. Cloud, MN. Moving in the winter is no easy task and the route on I-90 has some steep inclines as well as downgrades often at 6%. I began the decent at the posted 25 mph and when braking the entire front end would shake and want to veer right. The weather was often snowing and the roads icy. Anytime I would brake to exit the interstate was tricky and so the first thing I wanted to do was return the auto carrier so the truck would handle the road conditions better. It was borderline unsafe.
Upon arriving at the end of my 1600 mile journey I wanted to get the auto carrier off the truck as soon as possible and to top it off I was moving to a small dead end street with no turn around for the trailer. I decided to go to Budget of St. Cloud first and pulled into a large lot with plenty of room and approx 10 other Budget trucks.
The temperature outside was -7 degrees so I pulled to an open area and took my car off the trailer. No one inside came out to greet me or anything. I then decided to go to the office before I removed the trailer to ask where a good place would be for it. The person behind the counter was on the phone and ignored me when I entered. A good 5 minutes later he said, "How can I help you?" I said, "I'm returning the trailer because the street I'm moving to is narrow, icy and has no turnaround. I'll return the truck the next day when it warms up" and was told very rudely, "ABSOLUTELY NOT! It could be stolen or something." I was told I could not leave it there as it would get stolen and it was not his problem. I said, "I can't pull the trailer to where I'm moving and need to leave it." He said, "No" so I said, "I would call corporate" and he followed me outside.
I then informed JIM to step away from me as he was not anymore use to me and not being helpful at all. He followed me and intimidated me and got in my face saying I could NOT leave the trailer. I left his premises after he threatened to call the police so apparently I'm supposed to continue white knuckling it every time I apply the brakes and keep the trailer until I can return both at the same time. Great customer service BUDGET and way to look out for your customer's safety in sub zero driving conditions. Jim might want to realize that sometimes the auto carrier makes the truck's brakes stress from the load and be a little more accommodating and less intimidating to his customers. Awful experience and I would never recommend budget of St. Cloud to anyone.

I had received a quote online, when I went to pick up the truck the guy said it would be almost $200 more than the quote online. When I ask "why" he said "because of insurance and the extra driver." When I told him that there would only be one driver he said they always charged for the person renting the truck as a driver. So he hustled me and I signed an agreement.
Shame on me. I could barely understand the guy because he had such a heavy accent. Then the day we were to leave I-5 was closed and so was the route 40 going to Seattle. I called and was assured that I would not be charged as no one could get through so left the next morning. The truck barely shifted, we were scared all the way we were going to break down. We arrived in Seattle late, unloaded and returned the truck next morning, we explained all of this to the guy we returned it to and he said it would be $187.00 and he gave us the discount for the day we could not travel.
When I reviewed my credit card I had three charges from Budget Rent A Truck that came to almost $700. I called Budget Rent A Truck and was told to "Take it to your credit card company." So I did a charge back. I do not know the results of the credit card company handling it, but they did not seem hopeful I would win. I am a senior citizen and on a fixed income. I cannot afford to be ripped off this way.

I reserved my truck rental online. Was quoted $88.13 for one day rental which include .69 a mile plus a dolly for $17.00 + a $150.00 deposit for a 12' truck. The website said it would take the money when we pick up the truck and the $150.00 would be returned back to us. We get there on 1/4/16 to pick up our truck and he didnt have a 12' but had a 16' truck which was ok but we was charged $15.00 for the dolly and was told we never reserved it which he put in his pocket.
The truck was a mess. Had food and cigarette ashes everywhere. The truck even stop running when we was backing up to the house and would not start again for two hours. We returned the truck the same night with a full tank because the neighborhood that the truck rental place was in we did not feel safe leaving our car at. Now here is where the problem starts. We call the truck rental place this morning to ask when he was going to put the money back on the card and why he took out $97.89 and he told us that was the charge for everything and that we was not getting our $150.00 back.
So we called customer service and I talked to someone who did not understand english or could even speak it. I asked why I was being double charged and he was rude and would not let me talk. So I asked to talk to a supervisor 7 times and was told I did not have a good enough reason to talk to one each time I asked. When I told him I could not understand what he was saying he told me to call back to talk to someone else because he could not transfer me. I told him I have worked customer service and know what can be done. So he hung up on me.
I called back and got him again. Once again he was rude and would not transfer me, so I put my husband on the phone who I must say is not as nice as I am. Finally got him to transfer us. When he did all it did was ring. So I called a different number and was told that the website is just an estimate not what I will really be charged. They lied on the site and customer services is a joke. I am out of $150.00 that I was told I would get back. Plus time and headache. I will never use Budget Truck Rental again. I will use U-Haul from now on. Dont care if it cost more and I even told budget that.

I made an online reservation for a 1 way 12 foot truck rental on 12/16/15 for pick-up at 4PM on 12/24/15 at Blair Road Budget in Washington DC. I did not receive an email confirmation and called the 800 number customer service to confirm. I was concerned that my pickup was at 4PM on Christmas eve as many places close early that day. The woman I spoke confirmed the reservation, sent me an email and told me that the store would be open because the reservation had been confirmed. I had an uneasy feeling early afternoon and tried to call the store and also customer service. Neither location picked up and I was not able to leave a message.
I went to the store at 1PM on 12/24/15 and it was shut tight. Again I tried calling customer service and no one answered. I needed the truck and called the closest U-Haul. I actually got a better price, and the drop off was more convenient. So in the end it worked out better. I wanted to lodge a complaint and called the Budget store on 12/26/15. The guy who answered gave me a snarky response that I should have known better and the reservations are really worthless. I called customer service and was told by one rep that the problem was because I made a last minute reservation. I was transferred to another rep who told me I should have called customer service to help me find another truck (I tried to explain that I did and no one answered). I then sent an email the President and have not yet received an acknowledgement. I would stay away from Budget truck rental.

And of course Budget did not have a truck anywhere. Then on 12/29, I was checking my bank account and Budget took $50.00 out for a no show. Now it is going to take 7 to 10 days for them to refund me plus they owe me an additional $125.00 in overdraft fees. Which will probably take another 7 to 10 days to get that. The transmission shifter was a mess, for example Drive was neutral. The body of the truck looked like it had been through the war, holes, scratches, dents everywhere. The front end was completely out of alignment, making it a herculean feat just to keep the truck on the road. The truck rode like it had square tires. Worst once I managed to arrive at my house alive despite the deplorable condition of the truck, the lift gate would not work, the battery was too low. At this point I have wasted hours of my moving time trying to get any use out of the truck, so I returned it to Best Rental Center, and told them I was going to cancel my move at this point. Liars, terrible service, terrible people. Do not rent here! I made a reservation online and was able to reserve a one way truck. When I arrived, I noticed there were at least 20 trucks parked out back, however, the employee checking me in said he only had 4 trucks and that I needed to return the truck to his location. It had a special part and needed to be returned back to his office.
A HUGE inconvenience. He then subtracted $30 off my original quote and gave me free mileage to try and resolve the situation. He told me the truck he was going to give me was not ready and he needed to give me a larger truck, but for the same price. That seemed reasonable so I accepted. I asked him if I could one way that truck because it was a different vehicle. He said no because it needed the same special part and also had to be returned to his location. In the end, I dropped the key in the drop box only to be charged $50 more than he quoted me. I called in to ask about the charges and they told me I was charged $1.29 for every mile, even though I was told I would not be charged for mileage. They lied to me and will lie to you also! I have to say- this past weekend, I had the worst experience with Budget Rent-A-Truck. I reserved my 16 FT. moving truck earlier in the week and spoke with one of the rental agents at the national Customer Service Center. My wife and I were closing on our house that Friday and had arranged to pick up the truck that same Friday to move the next day (Saturday). I received a verified email containing the rental verification and reference number. However, when my wife and I arrived to pick up the truck, there were none available. In fact, the owner of the car dealership told me that he had not had a budget truck in over a month! He also told me that I was the 4th person that same month that had the exact same issue.
Obviously very angered and stressed, I call the Customer Service line. I spoke to an agent that was no help whatsoever and asked to speak with a supervisor. He told me that the Inventory Manager would call me back to make it right. About 5 minutes later I received a return call from Kevin who identified himself as the Inventory Manager for the entire Southeast. Kevin was awful! He did not provide any type of apology and told me there were no trucks available in the local area until the middle of the next week. I asked him why this happened and he said it is not his fault- it goes through the inventory system. I then asked him if they call the dealerships or pick-up locations to verify truck availability and he said they do not.
The worst part of this call was that he was so cold and acted like he could care less about my situation. This was especially hard because I had movers arriving the next morning and my family was fully ready to move. As you can imagine, I will NEVER use Budget again for any sort of rental and they should be ashamed that Kevin has any interaction with paying customers as he has zero customer service skills and made a bad situation even worse.

When we arrived to get the truck, the employee wasn't even aware of our reservation and told us Fed-Ex had all their trucks. He said he had no idea why Budget allowed us to reserve with them since they also didn't possess a car dolly. He was completely unhelpful and offered no remediation beyond telling us there was a Penske truck rental about a half mile down the road. While we were waiting, he had a telephone argument with, I assume, the business owner in which he complained about how he felt like he was trying to run two businesses and had no idea we were coming in that morning. The whole thing was handled extremely unprofessionally. I would never attempt to rent anything from this company again.

Last summer I rented a large truck from Budget Truck Rental. After loading the truck and traveling about 75 miles, the truck broke down. I called Budget and they sent a service man to check the engine. He found that the fluid was low which caused the engine to overheat and shutdown. He added fluid and I was back on my way but I arrived over an hour late. The moving crew that I had scheduled charged me by the hour. So as I was late, I was still responsible for their time as they waited for me. The delay cost me an additional $125 not to mention the inconvenience that I experienced.
When I called Budget to complain, they said that they could only credit me $40. I called at least three more times to say that this was not fair but I got turned down every time. The supervisor told me that I ought to submit my complaint by email to Budget which I did. I never heard from them. I consider this to be very poor service and I will never rent from Budget Truck Rental again.

BEWARE. BUDGET TRUCK IS CONFIRMING RESERVATIONS WITH NO TRUCKS AVAILABLE. Happened TWICE on Saturday. Went to pick up truck and that location hadn't had trucks for 3 days and had contacted corporate on several occasions to tell corporate they had no trucks. I called corporate to complain and after a 30 minute conversation, they confirmed another truck for noon. Before leaving the house, I called the location and they had no trucks either. The owner of that location told me that the person at corporate had to have known that he didn't have a truck.
Then to top if off, Budget charged my credit card $50 twice for a no show fee. I'm now on the phone trying to get that fixed. Their "procedure" is that they have to talk with the individual dealership to confirm that Budget really didn't have a truck. First... this means that Budget doesn't know whether or not the dealer has a truck. How do they run a business like this??? The first dealer they contacted confirmed that no truck was available so they credited the $50. So nice of them. The second dealer wasn't available so they WOULD NOT CREDIT MY ACCOUNT FOR THE SECOND $50. THEY SAID I COULD CALL BACK IN THE MORNING. Unbelievable. DON'T RENT FROM BUDGET.

Budget Trunk Rental is a complete joke! The following email is the issues I had during my move. Customer service was horrible, they had no truck for me and they quoted me a price and then lied about it and charged me more. They gave me a truck that could've killed me and all I get back from Agent ** first name Kathy of Level 2 Customer Service is a "We're sorry" email.
I probably had the worst customer service and overall experience with my truck rental. I went into a Budget Rental which is located on West 130th street in Parma Heights, Ohio, last Tuesday and spoke to a young lady. She went over all the info for me and quoted me a price of $769 for a four day rental on a 16' rental and $27 for a dolly. She took all my info and typed it into the computer and stated that it was definitely saved in the computer for my reservation on the following Tuesday, November 24th.
As I returned on that Tuesday to pick up my truck there wasn't one. I spoke to a gentleman and stated that I reserved a truck last Tuesday and I had arrived to pick it up. He asked me if I was sure because they had no truck available and there was no reservation for one. I said "yes I spoke to a young lady and she had taken the reservation for me last Tuesday." He then asked me what credit card did I use to reserve it under. I said I wasn't asked for my credit card to reserve one cause I was paying it in cash the day of pickup. He said that she should have taken one no matter what. The gentleman then went to get the lady I talked to last Tuesday. She comes out and denies ever talking to me and claimed she only talked to one person over the phone a few days ago. I said "I came in here and spoke directly to you last Tuesday, how can you not remember talking to me?" The lady still denied ever talking to me.
The gentleman stepped in and said "don't worry we'll make some calls and try to get you a truck." They get me a truck at the Independence, OH location and promise to get it to me in half hour. So my truck finally arrives and they do a quick inspection on it. The guy inspecting it says the check engine light is on, but no worries it was just missing a gas cap, which they had just put back on so the light should shut off eventually after a couple starts. So the same lady that quoted me, but claimed she didn't a week ago gives me my paper work and tells me my total is $885. I said "I thought it was $769?" She says "oh that was the 20% off special we ran last week that I quoted you".
Oh now all of a sudden she remembers talking to me?? I said "did I get my $27 dolly?" The gentleman said "it's no charge we included it for you." Oh wow how thoughtful, all this trouble and you didn't charge me for the $27 dolly. So I ask if I can pay part of it in cash and the rest on my credit card since I wasn't expecting to pay that much. He said that's fine but I had to have a $150 deposit included for using a credit card cause they prefer cash. What?? So now I'm paying $850 in cash, $35 plus an extra $150 for a deposit that I'll have returned when I drop off the truck on my credit card??? How does this make any sense??? But I still get that free $27 dolly though.
So I take my truck, with the check engine light on and prepare to move to North Carolina with my wife. We load up and head out Wednesday morning and still the check engine light is on. So I'm thinking "great the engine is going to blow up half way to NC". Both cigarette lighters didn't work when I plugged in my GPS and phone charger, so I had to sparingly use both so I could still have a phone for emergencies and the GPS to make it to NC without getting lost.
So we arrive in Charleston, West Virginia so I can gas up the truck for the rest of the drive. But for some reason when I stuck the hose into the gas tank, the nozzle kept shutting off and no gas would enter the tank. My wife and I both tried this for a good ten minutes trying to get gas into the gas tank. So I call the trusty Budget road side service phone number I was given. I thought this is the first time I've ever driven a rental truck maybe we're doing something wrong. I'm on hold for ten minutes and not one person answered (glad it wasn't a real emergency).
Luckily two guys driving a 16' truck of their own pulled in. I called them over and asked them if there was a trick to why the gas wasn't going into the tank. Both guys tried and both couldn't figure it out either. The one gentleman said "let me look at something." He looked under the truck and discovered the issue. The fuel pipe was literary dented in at the middle of the pipe, which is why gas couldn't enter. The gentleman was able to get the dent out and allow gas to flow through again. So this now became 35 minutes of our time wasted trying to get gas.
So now I've been accused of not making a reservation, told that I never talked to anyone, denied the original quote I was given, forced to apply a $150 deposit for using a credit card, have no working cigarette lighters for my GPS or phone, the check engine light is still on and had a dented fuel pipe. Thankfully our landlord that we were supposed to meet at 4:00 to move into our new apartment in North Carolina was in the caring thanksgiving mood and stayed till we were able to finally arrive at 5:15. Or else we would have been spending Wednesday through Sunday in a hotel and would've had to spend even more money to hold onto your truck!
As you can see I had a very very disappointing experience with Budget Truck Rental and honestly I would not recommend you to anyone right now. I needed to get this off my chest because this whole experience was completely unacceptable. Total B.S. company.

I live in South Florida and was going to pick it up in Orlando (3-4 hours away) to help my mother move some furniture down south. So it was going to be a standard one way trip. I was scheduled to pick up the truck at 10 on a Saturday morning. I left my place at 6 am with a friend and we set off. Around 8-9 am I get a call from Budget saying that there are no trucks available at my pickup location, but that they'd happily find another one for me. No big deal, I was still driving.
I get a call an hour later, when I'm already in Orlando, that there are no trucks available in the entire area until Monday. I told the man that I had made a a reservation and what is the point of making the reservation if it wasn't going to be reserved? Said it was an oversold market, offered a meaningless apology, and that was that. So now I was stuck half a state away with no truck and that was the only day I could do the move. So I called another well known truck rental company, and within an hour I had a truck. Because of the short turnaround I did have to pay a premium. So thank you, Budget. I was racially profiled, disrespected, and unfairly treated by Budget Truck Rental with lack of poor customer service. I went to a Budget Truck Rental location in my moving area Reisterstown MD Main Street, where all systems where which was my pick up reservation location. Was told by the Budget representative that I would have to find another location. Once I located another location (Pikesville Md), switched my reservation. This location system would allow a printable receipt of rental. I was given a carbon copy receipt after my debit card was charged 150 for truck rental deposit.
Returned the truck as instructed but received a telephone call about not filling the tank. At work at the time of the call while the Budget representative became argumentative about the issue stating that their truck I rented has a broken dial and the dial on the gas meter goes past the "F". I notified the representative of her false statements of me not filling the tank along with my husband who was present on drop off. My son was present on pick up and witnessed all of the rental process which a broken dial was never mentioned.
I came to the location after work to resolve the issue after speaking to representative Lynn (who did my rental process) when the representative called the police on me for no reasons. She again lied to the office and slandered my name to the office. On the office I did not agree with her statement due to Mack being the person who walk with me to look over the truck.
I again am in issue with Budget due to me not receiving any of my refundable deposit of 120.11 after clearly receiving a confirmation receipt. The receipt stated my charges of 19.99 for the 1 day rental, 10 mile charge at .99 cent a mile of 9.90 (which 4.60 was returned due to the altercation in store); and totally a 32.49 charge for some reason. I have waited the full amount of refundable days & still have received nothing. This is a very poor quality of customer service.

My husband rented a 12' truck from Budget on 11/11/15. Our quote was for $37.10 which included a $10.00 discount coupon and 20 miles added (although I knew I would not be using 20 miles). First off, when we got home, the truck was infested and inundated with cockroaches which delayed our move because the infestation had to be cleaned and removed. I called CS and was told that upon return of the truck, we would be given a discount. Upon rent of the truck (within the 24 hours allotted) I was given a bill of $54.58! I was told that the truck had 40 additional miles on it! This is impossible because the household move was within 3 miles of each other which means we would have had to go back and forth 7 times to have put that many miles on the truck! We went back and forth 3 times which would have put us at 18 miles.
The Budget rental facility is on 170th Street and our home is on 194th Street, that is 24 blocks back and forth. What I am saying here is do not rent from Budget Truck Rental because there is a definite scam going on with either their odometer, the person writing down the mileage or engine, something is going on here. My husband says that there maybe something in the engine where is the truck is running the miles used is affected. I did get an additional $10.00 discount for the cockroaches which helped with the extra $14.80 charged for miles we did not use. Moral here is rent from anyone BUT Budget! Lesson learned!

The truck itself and the move were done well, however the problem came upon return. We were told by both the website and the customer service representatives that this location would be open until 6 pm on Saturday evening, however upon the time of our return at 5:26 pm the gates were closed and locked, and the number we were given would not work.
Upon trying to reach the customer help line, I was rejected from the call no less than 3 times. Upon returning the next morning to the parking lot, after again filling the tank of fuel to over filled, we were told that because the gas tank reader did not show it was full, that there would be a surcharge of 30 extra dollars as opposed to the price of 20 extra we had just heard the quote to another customer before us. This has been what has lead to this review, and my sternest regret is that I cannot leave a 0 star review.

I am in MA state and did a local move with Budget. I made a reservation more than a month prior to move and called the location a week before the move to make sure the truck would be there. They said yes to everything and called me 14 hours before the moving date and time saying they don't have truck and sending me to more than a 30 miles away. The other location was already closed and customer service was promising 2 hours pick up delay from the other location, made me to cancel the reservation. Because I could not find any other truck from other companies, I made another reservation with Budget to pick it up at delayed time and I had no choice but pay more money for moving helpers plus extra money for 60 miles (to pick up and drop off).
After the moving (which I paid because they have my credit card info), I called customer service twice and they said there's nothing they can do. I have all the conversation in recording to prove this is all true. Budget customer service people are the most rude people I ever spoke to. They could care less about the customer who paid already. This kind of company with this type of attitude towards the customers should be out of business. To people who are reading this, I recommend U-Haul because they give 50 dollars back if they cannot keep the reservation. At least you get a money back from U-Haul, but if you ask Budget, they proudly say "We don't do that. And we do not guarantee truck when you make the reservation." Sure, Budget can charge penalties if I don't show up or make cancellation. But Budget doesn't want to do anything when they don't have truck to give?

I reserved a truck online on a Thursday evening for Saturday -- at that point I had quit my search for an available truck. I received a call on Friday saying there was not a truck available -- but if I could move my date until Monday they could accommodate me. With a company that is nationwide it is unbelievable that the online reservations cannot update with every reservation. I will spread the word to whomever is moving in the future to not even consider renting from Budget because there is no assurance that your reservation that is confirmed is honored. The customer service representative that called me was non apologetic and gave me an "oh well" attitude. How you stay in business is amazing.

In September 2015, I reserved a truck and car carrier (4 wheel) from Budget Truck Rental 2895 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, Ca 95051 for Sept. 10 pickup. ** from the store, called me on Sept. 9 to say a 4 wheel car carrier was not available but a 2 wheel was. I did not like this and was annoyed, he called me the day before. As it turned out, my new residence was not quite ready so I called ** and said I was changing the pickup date to Sept. 15. He assured me the 4 wheel carrier would be available. I changed the reservation online and called Budget customer service on **'s recommendation to make sure I was not charged a late fee.
The morning of Sept 15, I arrived at the Budget Rental. ** told me he had called the day before, left a message informing me the truck and carrier were NOT available. As I was exceptionally busy packing, I had not checked my messages. I therefore became very upset at not having ANY truck on the scheduled day. After my use of a swear word, ** demanded I stop the language and that he would not serve me further unless I stopped. In careful, non abusive language I explained that I had scheduled movers, utilities, Cable, etc. all around this reserved date. ** was not concerned in the least. He offered me the Budget Customer Service phone number and said I could call and see what was available. He then said, quote "I have done my part."
WHAT??? You call the afternoon before my move, don't bother in the least to find a truck on your own and leave it to me on the day of the move to arrange my own transportation?? Are you kidding me? A complete LACK of customer service. I called Budget Customer Service and was told it takes around 2 hours to locate a replacement truck. I was skeptical to say the least. Fortunately, my lack of confidence in Budget caused me to call UHaul. Within one hour I picked up a truck and 4 wheel car carrier!! I called back Budget Customer Service to cancel the search as I did not want them to expend extra work for me (unlike **). Imagine my surprise when I was told my reservation had been CANCELLED! Without them telling me!! What if I had waited like they told me only to be left out to dry (AGAIN). The absolute worst Customer Service experience ever.

Gave Budget my card number to hold my reservation for a moving truck. Was told no charge. Then 30 minutes later I was cancelled by the local office in my town, due to they did not have any trucks available. I double checked to make sure my card was not going to be charge. Both Budget corp and local office said no charge. The following Monday, I discovered I was charged a no show fee of $50.00.
I admittedly called a requested a refund. The budget corp guy said it would take 5-7 days. After a week no refund. I called back and inquired when will I receive my refund. The lady said to me what refund, no refund has been made. I demanded to speak to a supervisor and was placed on hold for over an hour. Called today to check to see if there is a refund in pending on my card and discover due to their lateness of not refunding my money in a timely manner that I now have fees from my card. Still no refund as of today, no I have to file fraudulent charges and wait 60 days for my refund.

When I brought the coupon to the pick-up location, they said they could not honor the coupon and to call Budget directly. Customer service told me they cannot honor the coupon either and that I should have received it at the time of pick-up. They said they would not help me and hung up. I had to call back multiple times and THEY KEPT HANGING UP ON ME. What kind of customer service is that? Finally, once I reached a manager, he said there is not way he could apply the coupon. We chose this company on the idea we could receive this discount. No one wanted to help us. They all were rude and did not care at all about what I was saying. I was looking to rent a truck for two days over the weekend. I did an online reservation for Budget picking a truck up at 4:00 PM on Friday to return at 4:00 PM on Sunday. Two day rental was 39.98 and with 100 miles fee and taxes the total came to $126. The office wasn't open on Sunday (no one ever told me that) so I followed the instructions for an after-hour drop-off (at 1:30, 2 1/2 hours early). Check my bank account the next day and not only had they charged me a $195 'deposit fee' but on top of that my bill had escalated to $219!!
I called to find out why and I was told that I had to pay a late fee because the office couldn't process the truck until THEY came in the next morning, so it was technically 'late' and an overnight drop off fee. Plus, she said I went over the miles (I didn't, I was actually 20 miles under the 100). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!! THEY ARE TOTAL RIP OFFS. The quote you get online means nothing when you get there. They do not give you an itemized bill and will charge you whatever they want.

After sitting in Denver for 8 hours, I finally left. Once in Utah, truck broke down again and had to be towed to final destination. Found the inspection and registration papers. I rented a 16 ft moving truck and auto transport from Budget Truck Rental on 10/12/2015 in Pennsylvania and it was to be returned on 10/16/2015 in Indiana. My husband and I picked the truck up on the 12th at 4612 Jonestown Rd. Harrisburg, PA 17109. On Saturday October 14th at 11:30am I had driven approximately 1,080 miles when the truck broke down. The transmission had been slipping multiple times during our trip before the truck just gave out. I had to drive in 3rd gear to park it safely. We called roadside assistance, who then sent out a tow truck company around 12:40p. The tow truck driver looked at the fluids in the truck and stated that the truck hadn't been maintained. The fluids were low and the oil in the truck looked like tar.
The tow truck driver saw the next maintenance date sticker on the window and it stated that the truck it was supposed to be serviced on 10/15/2015, which means we shouldn't have been given the truck in the first place. He then followed me to the rental location on Jonestown Rd. to return the truck, in which I had to drive in 3rd gear again. The rental location didn't have any other trucks suitable to drive so I had to wait for a truck to be delivered to me. It was delivered around 6pm that evening. It set me back in my continued moving because the help we were supposed to have to move could not do it at the time that we got the new truck.
I called Budget to try to extend my rental but was told by the customer service rep that I would be charged $85 for each additional day. I explained that the breakdown set us back but I was told that it shouldn't have made a difference because of the amount of time I had to wait for a new truck and they would not waive the fee. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to a line that rung for 25 minutes before I hung up. I called back two additional times with the same result. So, I then returned the truck until the 17th at 7:00p to the rental location in Indianapolis. I checked my checking account today on October 22nd and there was a charge from Budget for $342.20.
I spoke to both a customer service rep and a supervisor and they only offered me a $106 refund. I stated that I didn't expect a total refund because part of the fees was for refueling but the supervisor stated again that the time lapse from the breakdown to getting the new truck didn't justify any more monies being refunded. What the company fails to realize is that there was a deadline for me to move. My husband was to start a new job in Indianapolis on 10/16/2015 and we were supposed to have everything done by the 15th and then drop off the truck which would have been on time. Because of the breakdown we lost our movers that were supposed to help us so it was just the 2 of us moving a whole house to another state.
I am totally dissatisfied with this company, from the malfunctioning truck to the fees that were charged to me. The supervisor didn't listen to the full story and unwilling to refund anything additional for my experience. I feel like I was treated unfairly by Budget and will never rent from this company again. I have reported this company to the BBB and will go to the media if I don't get a response.

I rented a moving truck in good faith that it would be in good running condition. Far from it! It broke down 3 separate times! Two of the times I was blocking traffic. I called Budget roadside assistance and explained that I was broke down in a dangerous spot. Instead of helping me, I was put on hold for over 25 minutes. Once they finally picked up I re-explained the situation and they put me on hold again. I finally had to call 911 the first time, then my own tow truck and pay for my own tow out of pocket the second time. The 3rd time, it broke down in my new apartment complex and I had to have it towed to my storage unit.
I had my movers ready, then the Budget tow company called and cancelled on me and wanted to re-schedule for later in the afternoon. The movers, who I paid, had to leave and go to their next call. I have all the receipts for my out-of-pocket tows, movers, taxis, etc. Not to mention time lost from work and settling in to my new apartment on time. Was Budget willing to reimburse me? NO! I've instead had to begin the dispute process with my credit card instead. Worst company ever. DON'T USE BUDGET!

My husband and I rented a large truck from Budget's Jersey City, NJ location. On our trip, to return the truck, I called the branch to verify we CAN return the truck by 6 pm because we were 10 minutes away from them. This call was placed at 5:45 pm, but no answer. I continuously called to be certain they were open until 6, as designated on my contract. Still, no answer. We arrived at their branch at 5:57 pm to find the storefront completely locked up and dark. There was no drop box to return the truck. As my husband is a NYC firefighter, and I am a NYC teacher, we cannot return the truck 7:30 am, tomorrow morning, hence us attempting to return it this evening before 6pm.
I called several 800 #s only to be told they can't assist me, or transferred me to another department. Ultimately, I spoke with 2 "managers" who also told me they couldn't help me or take a complaint against this branch. They said I would be charged for an extra day, if I did not return the truck by 7:30 am. This is absurd, as the branch closed EARLY, and I called various #s, spoke with various representatives, which I was told were recorded. Budget is unprofessional and has no customer service skills. The particular branch is 351 Luis Muniz Marin Boulevard Jersey City, NJ (201) 792-9101. Awful experience.

The local Budget Truck rental stores I've done business with are nice and helpful, but it's the national roadside assistance and customer service that is awful. Halfway through our journey, the ABS light came on on the dash. We did our part by stopping in a decent sized city (where there was a budget truck location) and called their national roadside assistance helpline. After waiting 20 minutes for them to call back after our initial call, they advised us to keep driving because it's "probably just an issue with the sensor, not the brakes themselves." Well, about an hour later, the rotor came completely off the wheel and we were lucky to maintain control of the vehicle (and not hit any other vehicles) while swerving around the road.
Once stopped, it took a long time to process our issue, to send someone out simply to say state "yes, it is broken and can't be repaired," and then another hour and a half for a tow truck to come. That added up to almost 4 hours on the side of a busy interstate. No one I spoke to really seemed to care at all about the situation I was in. They had no sense of urgency and never called back with new information to keep me updated. I was told by the last person that night that the claim was put in the system (it was now after 10 PM), so it should be processed by the closest store and their inventory department starting at 7 AM and we should be moving forward in the hours after that. Unfortunately, when I woke up and called them a little bit after 7 (because again, they are horrible at communicating with you), they said they were waiting on one person in New Jersey (we were stuck in Missouri) to get to the office and approve the claim.
I asked every which way that I could if there was any other living soul on the planet that could approve this claim and they said no (even though all the boxes had been checked off to get a new truck and someone literally just had to say "yes"). So we waited for hours for that person to show up, and then it took many more hours for a tow truck to bring the functioning truck to us (we were a half hour from the closest store). All along, again, there was no communication from them unless I called and waited on the line for 10+ minutes each time. They also said they would hire a team of movers to help us load the items from the broken down truck to the new one, except that they didn't do that until much later so we were already done doing it ourselves by the time the movers showed up.
After I returned the truck and called the customer service to get a refund and reimbursement for the inconvenience and for the time spent in a hotel, they again showed that they really didn't care about my situation. They read their script that said, "I'm sorry to hear that, sir," but when I asked them to consider more than just the "inconvenience," to think about the dangerous situation they put us in when telling us to keep driving on a faulty truck, they just kept reading their same script. "We can offer you a 20% refund on the truck fee," which turned out to be $73, and then I have to email my hotel and food receipts to a specific email address.
I'm now struggling to get their email address to work, as I've spent weeks just trying to get through to someone to get some reimbursement back, and simply get someone to care enough to set this straight. My saga with them is still not over, and it feels like it never will be. They are extremely slow and their lack of caring and urgency is infuriating. I've worked in customer service for years and I know that at the end of the day, all people want is to feel like someone cares about your trouble and wants to make it right. I'm not unreasonable in my demands and issues with this company, and yet they have consistently shown through the entire process that they fall very short of the mediocre bar of service I'm asking from them.

A simple rental of one of your trucks turned into a lengthy event that cost me time and money. On April 15, 2015, I reserved a truck online for a one-way trip. The location for the pickup of the truck was near my home and I scheduled other events accordingly. The online reservation went through without incident. However; on the day before my scheduled pickup of the truck, I received a phone call informing me that the location for the pickup of the truck was changed and is now miles further at a new location. Since it was too late to change anything I said I would be there at my scheduled time of 11:00am on Monday, April 27th. I arrived before my scheduled time of 11:00am to find the following:
The address was difficult to locate on the busy and fast moving street it was located on. There were no signs and by the time I saw a Budget truck parked in the parking lot I had passed the only driveway into the parking lot. I had to go out onto a side street, turn at an intersection, and go several blocks to find a safe and legal way to turn around. Arriving at the building, there were no facilities like running water, and no bathroom. There were computer techs setting up computers on a long counter and one staff person at a single computer assisting another customer.
As my "turn" approached and I was called to the ONE "working" computer. I was asked many questions and my information was verified. One question had to do with my car insurance and I did not know the answer to that question. The service person handed me a phone and asked me to call to verify my insurance. If I had known this was required I could have been more prepared. Several other customers arrived and I felt bad for holding them up while making a phone call, so I told the service person to allow the next customer to go ahead of me and get their information verified while I was on the phone. HAD I KNOWN I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT OVER TWO HOURS I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT!
I got the information from the insurance company within minutes and waited to be helped. But instead of returning to help me the agent continued helping the customers that went ahead of me. They were taking a long time, also had to make the same insurance phone call that I did, and something seemed to be wrong with the computer.
After an hour of waiting, I asked what was going on. I was told that the ONLY printer was not functioning with the specific program used to release trucks for rent. The two service people there were trying to find a way to print the contract. They worked on the computer for a while then called another branch and asked them to print it out, fax it to them, then they ran copies (3) on a copy machine. This "workaround" took over 20 minutes to complete.
After waiting almost another hour I asked if I could at least go and look at the truck and do the inspection while we were waiting. They seemed to agree that was a good idea. The man helping us with the inspection was dirty, had several missing teeth, smelled bad and was not very professional. He kept talking about himself and his personal life situation and I just wanted to inspect the truck. We moved around the truck from the front, which was filthy and there were so many bugs on the windshield you could hardly see through it. The man mentioned that the wash station was not working yet, so the truck was dirty.
We went down the driver's side noting places that were damaged and marked as such, and he wrote things down on the paper. Then we went around the back and up along the passenger side. As we came up to the passenger side, the man said, "now for the driver's side!" I said, "no! We just went down the driver's side! This is the passenger side." He just laughed embarrassingly and continued writing on his paper. At this point I am really losing confidence in this company, but pressed on.
I finally got up to the counter and was assisted in filling out the contract for the truck. After 20 minutes I was given my contract (remember they had to call the other branch, have them print it (when they could get around to it), fax it, then the branch I was at made 3 copies) and was finally ready to go when one man said to the other that the truck I was about to rent WAS NOT FULL OF GAS! So, one guy grabs the keys and a credit card and heads out the door. Due to the funky location on the street it is hard to get in and out of this place. We watched as he got in the truck and drove northbound, then after what seemed like minutes, turned around and headed back towards the gas station across the street!
We watched and waited for about 15 minutes. Then there was a phone call. The man who was filling the car with gas called the guy at the counter. Then we see the guy at the counter get a different credit card and go out the door. The guys are now standing on opposite sides of the street waiting for the light. They meet in the middle and hand off the new credit card. The man at the gas station then BEGINS filling up the truck which takes another 10 minutes. He finally arrives back and gives us the keys to the truck. Almost 2 hours from the time we arrived, we leave frustrated, thirsty, had to pee and my 83 year old mother who was with me was exhausted.
I had other people scheduled to assist me with my move. They are now waiting all of this time for me and it is costing me by the hour. The appointment was for 11:00am and by the time I got home (since this was now a further location) it was after 2:00pm. I had no lunch, no time for anything and had to load the truck for a 600 mile journey.
I don't write letters to businesses on a regular basis. But, you must agree, that this was outrageously bad business practice and horrible customer service. I realize they had just moved, but that should not have impacted me and my life the way it did. Those doors should not have opened before being able to assist customers in a timely, professional way. There was a man in an office with a closed door, who came out occasionally to see what was happening and did not once apologize for the horrible way we were treated. He was finally identified, (after we insisted we get a business card from someone) as Lester **, the Territory performance manager.
The lack of good customer service has caused me to never use Budget again. I can't tell you who was working and assisting me that day because no one had a name tag on, there were no signs and no one had a business card except for Lester **. He is the Territory performance Manager. Ha! I wonder what He has to say about the performance THAT day.

This is now the third time I have made a reservation for a rental with Budget and they did not have a vehicle available. The first two times were for cars, this time was for a truck to move out of state. Each time, I have gone to their location only to find that they did not have the vehicle available and offer nothing as a replacement. This time, I reserved a truck and received a call indicated that the truck was not available and to call customer service for assistance. I contacted customer service and they sent a ticket to the inventory manager. The inventory manager, Joe from Virginia, called me the next day which was the day of my move indicating that he could not find a vehicle within 30 miles of me.
I asked why does Budget accept the rental reservations when they don't have the vehicles available. He then indicated that he could search for another day but wouldn't guarantee me a truck. Joe got very rude with me and told me to contact their competitor for a rental because there was nothing he could do, THEN HE HUNG UP ON ME. This is totally unacceptable. I have rented vehicles from all the major rental companies and never experienced the service I have experienced with Budget. BTW, I have never rented with Budget because they never have the vehicles you reserve available and at this point, I NEVER WILL!
Other rental company sites will indicate that they do not have the vehicle available instead of accepting the reservation and then disappointing the customers when they show up expecting to rent a vehicle. Also, other companies have some type of guarantee for your rental reservation. They will do everything to accommodate the customer, like give an upgrade for free, give $50 for not having the right equipment available, etc. The bottom line is Budget doesn't seem to care about customer service and trying to make their customers happy. I was able to go to one of their competitors and find a moving truck same day with no hassle and they honored Budget's rate. I WILL NEVER RESERVE WITH BUDGET AGAIN!!!

They didn't answer any of my questions. We spent $150 on just a hotel alone and now have a dent in our brand new Corolla that is just a few weeks old. The carrier of the Budget Trucks in Hanover, PA was incompetent and got a second dolly (the same one) after getting lost for over 2 hours. We then had to wait another two hours for them to pick up the full car carrier. They were extremely disorganized. Like everyone else on this site, I so wish I had had the common sense to look up reviews on Budget BEFORE I rented a truck from them. However, I had positive experiences with both U-Haul and Penske before, so I thought, "Oh, I'm sure Budget will be fine too." NOT! First, let me tell you about the extremely shady dealer (Moving Chicago LLC, 2241 N. Elston Ave., Chicago) that I went through. I first tried to book online, but for some reason the online system wouldn't allow me to enter the 20DIS code for the advertised 20% discount. So, I called a few of the advertised dealers located nearby. Now, in Chicago, one needs to be careful because there are some very bad areas and many people there are just generally a-holes that will lie with a smile directly to your face -- and get a sick pleasure from it.
I thought the area this shop was located in didn't seem that bad compared to some of the others, so I decided to just take a chance. BAD MOVE (no pun). ** (I'm pretty sure that is his name. He would never directly tell me his name. Red flag #1! The owner of Moving Chicago LLC, is one such immoral and lying individual. He has NO business owning a business! Originally I had planned to move my stuff into storage after I finished grad school in the city and come back and get my stuff another time, but I decided to just rent a truck and leave the city back to my home in Mass. for good. Now, moving is a stressful experience in and of itself, but I could've managed it IF I had been provided with a decent vehicle. I had called LLC the day prior to needing a truck and politely told the owner that I had asthma and couldn't receive a truck that someone had smoked in recently.
He acted like that was no big deal and said he would go choose a nice truck and also open all the doors than to air it out. I took his word and didn't think anything of the issue. The next day I go to pick up the truck and while I'm walking into the shop, I casually look into one truck parked on the side of the road. I notice cigarette ashes all over it, so I make a note not to get that truck. First, the office of LLC Chicago is extremely scuzzy (another red flag!) and the owner will hand you pens to sign with that have literally been chewed to a pulp by either a person or a dog (a real professional touch!) Since I had ALREADY informed him of my need for a non-smoking vehicle, I figured that he would do his best to provide me with what I asked for. So, when I was signing the paperwork, he handed me a bunch of papers together.
I read the rental agreement closely, but I didn't realize that he had me sign the specific vehicle inspection sheet WITHOUT offering whatsoever to show me the truck beforehand. I did make a comment about how I couldn't rent the one truck I looked at and he said, "Oh. Don't worry. I'm not giving you that truck anyway." So then he says to his wife, something like, "Find her a really clean, non-smoking truck. How about #..." I had no reason to suspect that he was deceiving me, as he was telling me all about his children who all go to DePaul, etc., seeming like a somewhat normal person. As I said, I stupidly didn't look at the vehicle before I signed the papers, but I didn't think I had any reason to.
When I get into the truck, I notice that it is extremely dirty, sort of smells like smoke, and had not been vacuumed at ALL. So, I go back into the shop and say, "Um, do you have a vacuum? The truck isn't very clean." Then he says they don't even HAVE a vacuum (um, how do you typically clean the vehicles after they get back then?) and that his cleaning guy "didn't show up" that day, which is probably yet another lie. He then hands me TWO dollars (yes, literally $2!) and gives me directions to a gas station with a vacuum down the street. I should've just insisted on another truck right then and there, but I am way too nice. I spent like a half an hour vacuuming the filthy truck, which had a substance that looked like loose tobacco spilled ALL behind the back of the cab. I then get mad and call the shop to complain.
The woman I spoke with was extremely argumentative and kept insisting that there is a no-smoking policy in the vehicles. Um, that may be true, but people STILL break the rules. There was spilled tobacco all in the cab, so obviously someone was smoking in there -- and it also smelled like **. She kept insisting that she had checked that truck out herself and that there was nothing wrong with it. She said if I could get there by a certain time (they were about to close) that she would let me look at other vehicles. I couldn't get there by that time though, and I also doubted they would have any other acceptable trucks (because of the one I looked at before). She said that if I could come in the morning, they could probably get me another truck, but either way, she said the owner would call me and probably give me a 10% discount for the inconvenience if I stuck with that truck.
Well, I needed to leave the next morning, so I decided to just try to clean it myself the best I could. I spent over an hour completely wiping out in the interior with a bleach solution, but the smell still didn't completely go away. I loaded up the truck because I needed to leave by a certain time and expected the owner to call the next day. HE NEVER CALLED. I continue on my drive in the scuzzy truck that cost close to $1,000 all the way from Chicago to Mass. By myself and can't figure out why the smoke smell won't disappear. All the while, I start experienced asthma symptoms, so then I start calling customer service to see if I can get a completely new truck because I realize I CANNOT continue on with my trip with this filthy vehicle.
I cannot even tell you the amount of hours I spent on the line with customer service, with reps who don't speak English well at ALL, who told me that the best they could do would be to offer me $25 (!!) for my time of cleaning the vehicle. At one point I stop to inspect the cab again to see where the hell the cigarette smell is still coming from. Well, what do you know?? There was a concealed ashtray (I didn't even think to look for an ashtray in their supposedly NON-smoking vehicles because why the hell would there BE one that was completely filled with butts and ashes!!! Oh, but there was NEVER any smoking in the vehicle, as LLC Chicago kept insisting like blatant LIARS. At that point I completely flipped out and called customer service to demand they bring me a new vehicle and help me move my stuff.
I realize it wasn't a mechanical emergency, but I had repeatedly told LLC Chicago that I had asthma and I believe the owner DELIBERATELY gave me a vehicle that had a filled ashtray. I know that seems paranoid of me, but what else am I supposed to think when he repeatedly assured me a non-smoking vehicle and I heard him tell his wife a specific truck to give me. WHO WOULD DO THAT to an innocent customer?? Well, when I finally got through to the owner of LLC Chicago (he had been avoiding my calls), I was livid. He completely told me off. Told me I was a "hypochondriac," and completely LIED and told me he had brought me out to inspect that vehicle. I am not delusional. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. It is actually frightening what a liar this man is. He did not offer me any sort of discount or compensation and actually hung up on me!! SO unprofessional and downright shady.
Whether or not he happened to think I was a "hypochondriac," guess what? I still paid close to $1,000 for the truck. When a customer is paying that much for a product, they should damn well get what they ask for!! Asking for a non-smoking vehicle when one has a legitimate medical condition is completely understandable. He tried to make me feel like I was insane for this very simple request. Other things the owner of LLC deliberately did wrong: Entered in the wrong destination drop-off after I told him like FIVE times the city I needed to go to (the one he entered was four hours away from my needed location) and overcharged me for moving supplies. I admit it was only $1 he overcharged me for rope, but he is so damn shady and cheap that I seriously think he punched in $5 instead of the CLEARLY marked $4 for rope.
Again, I don't really care about $1, but it is the principle that LLC Chicago will try to screw you at EVERY opportunity and then completely LIE about it. I continue to call customer service to try to get some sort of reimbursement for the severe amount of physical and emotional distress this whole fiasco caused me. My trip took so much longer than expected because I repeatedly had to stop due to asthma attacks, which always make me have a panic attack as well. I had been unknowingly been driving in a truck with a FILLED ashtray in very close proximity to me for a DAY AND A HALF. Nothing looked like an ashtray in the cab in the vehicle that had been guaranteed free of smoke. Now it seems that ALL my belongings -- thousands of dollars worth of possessions have a lingering smoke smell. It will take me days to clean all my possessions. I'm also still experiencing asthma symptoms.
This whole trip, which ended up costing well over $1,000 was so insanely stressful that I was experiencing heart attack symptoms as a healthy individual and ALL the Budget corporate office will offer me is a MEASLY $25 for my time cleaning. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? I'm actually considering legal action for the amount of stress I endured. Their policies and subpar customer service are absolutely UNACCEPTABLE for such a large company. Do NOT take your business to Budget or to LLC Chicago, the most corrupt business I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. PLEASE consider all these reviews and save yourself your hard-earned money and mental sanity. I almost had a nervous breakdown from this amount of stress.

When I obtained a change of address kit from the post office, there was a 20% discount coupon for Budget Truck Rental included in the kit. I wish I had never seen that coupon, because dealing with this company was a total fiasco! At first, they didn't want to honor the discount when I called to make the reservation. When I gave the coupon code to the agent he kept on telling me, "The system isn't letting me put it in". I was persistent and asked to speak with a supervisor. Then magically the agent found a way to give me the discount. Using my credit card, I made reservations for a 26 ft truck to be picked up at the Hollywood, FL location at 9 am on 8/30/15 and obtained a reference number for the reservation.
Well, I showed up at the time and date mentioned above, but my truck didn't! After waiting for at least a half-hour for the agent to make phone calls to find out about my truck, all he could say is that he had no idea what time my truck would arrive, and he advised me to drive to another Budget location at least 15 miles away to obtain a truck. I was over a barrel because I HAD to be out of my house on that very day, so I agreed. The drive to this location, plus trying to complete the rental process with an agent who was trying to do 10 things at once, cost me another 2 hours of time. One of my movers grew very impatient and almost left.
I called the Budget Customer Service dept and spoke to two different agents during all of this madness, and all I got was an attitude of indifference and a meager offer of 30 free miles as compensation. One of the agents actually told me that they have the right to change the time, date, location, and truck size on a reservation. Not only did they change mine, but they didn't even notify me! Needless to say, I will never deal with Budget Truck Rental nor Budget Car Rental ever again.

We reserved a truck for a 9 am pickup. Budget didn't even have the decency to let us know there was no truck there to rent. Jennifer, the lady at the storage units was nice enough to call. We had to wait a day for a truck to get there which totally messed up our deadline. The check engine light was on as well as the change oil light. The truck should have not been on the road. On slight inclines 30 mph was all I could get and minimum interstate speed is 45 mph. A large part of our 260 mile trip was her staying behind me with the emergency flashers on. I recommend using any company other than Budget. Horrible service and horrible equipment. Rent from anyone other than Budget.

Rented the big box truck with a car dolly in Mesquite TX 8-23-15. Left for trip to North Carolina on 8-25-15. Truck stalled out in downtown Atlanta on 8-26-15. When we called roadside assistance she said "What do you want me to do about it?" She instructed us to continue to drive the truck until it broke down and then call back and they would try to send help. We continued to drive the truck, it would not go over 50 miles an hour.. Trip took an extra 6 hours. When we took the truck to the drop off site at 9AM as instructed in North Carolina, it was closed with a 'note' on the door to fill out a form, there were no forms to fill out. The whole experience was a nightmare. We should have done our homework and read all the reviews before picking Budget. DO NOT USE BUDGET MOVING TRUCK COMPANY. So-called 'customer service' is a joke.

From reading through other reviews, I'm clearly not alone in this complaint. I had made a reservation for a truck on Aug. 15 and received a confirmation email saying all was good. I had no reason to expect anything would go wrong (though I should have read the reviews here first). When I got to the site that morning, no actual truck was available. Of course, like most people who are moving, I'd set up many arrangements with friends and family to help me move and to deal with our children during the move.
After about 2 hours, I found a small company that had a truck available and I was able to move. Budget's system, however, seems to be based on overbooking their rentals... This was confirmed by Budget's on-site agent who was dealing with a few angry customers that were having the same experience as me. And yes, I was also charged the $50 that many others on this page were. Budget did, however, refund it within about four days after I had called to complain.

I rented a Budget Moving truck from BUDGET OF OLD TOWN 5770 W IRLO BRONSON HWY, KISSIMMEE, FL 34746 (407)396-0928 on Friday August 14, 2015 in order to move my daughter out of her apartment . After loading the truck on Saturday, I commenced driving towards Bradenton Florida around 5 pm, a trip that should take 1 hours. A few miles out of Orlando, it began to rain strongly and I turned on the windshield wiper only to find out that they were not working. There was clicking noise and they only went up 1-2 inches. The rain quickly turned into a storm and it was virtually impossible to see. I pulled to an area between an onramp and HWY 4 (eastbound) and called the above-mentioned location only to be re-directed to the roadside assist for cars, not trucks. I later was transferred to the truck roadside assist.
There should be recordings of this conversation for quality assurance. I was informed that I would be contacted by her supervisor or someone else regarding the dispatching of a repair service. I informed the employee, that I did not have a charger for my phone and had limited battery to please call soon. After waiting approximately 30 minutes with no call and fearing for my life where I had pulled off I started driving with my flashers very slowly to the next exit which happened to be about 7 miles away. This was a terrifying ordeal. The storm continued. I had my passenger in the truck take video of the inoperable wipers.
At the exit, I got off and went to the truck stop and there asked to see if someone could repair the wipers. I was told that they could not and that I should get some rain X to see if it helped. I applied the rain x and continued on my trip 30 mph with flashers. This was incredibly stressful, gave me a headache and neck ache from straining to see in front of me in the pouring rain. Still no call from the dispatch at budget roadside assist. At 7:19 I received a call that immediately dropped from an 800 number that may have been from there. At 7:26, 2 hours after my initial call I received a call from a repair place telling me that they would be heading out. At this time, I informed him that I was no longer in the same location, that nobody had called and that I was in danger. I continued to drive in the pouring rain. The rain stopped about 12 miles from our destination. I arrived at the house after 8:30 pm, with headache, and stressed.
The next day after unloading the truck I called Budget to inform them of the horrific, dangerous situation I was placed in and poor service. The customer service representative was downright rude and unsympathetic. I am sure that you have recordings of this conversation and he refused to pass me to a supervisor. He told me I was entitled to a 10% discount!!! This did not even cover the rain X and what I had to give the man at the truck stop, let alone the extra 1 hours of my very valuable time and more importantly the stress and headaches it caused me while endangering my life. I called again and got a different representative that this time told me that nothing could be done until I turned in the truck.
I returned the truck and demonstrated it to the clerk. He made notes of it on your computer server and told me that the truck would be disabled until repaired and that he thought it was extremely dangerous considering the weather in Florida in the summer to rent a malfunctioning truck to anyone. When I returned home I placed my third call to you and this time I was given the same 10% option which is simply not acceptable. I paid for a functioning truck. I paid for insurance. I paid to have a vehicle that was in drivable conditions. You did not uphold your end of the deal.
Furthermore, my hour of my life that I will never get back also have a value, not just the additional driving time with stress but the hours in telephone conversations with your customer service which is anything but friendly or professional. During this third call I told the lady that if that was all, I would have to file a complaint with my credit card and she informed me that if I did I would be sent to collection!!! This is simply insulting. I would hope that you refund me the cost of the rental. I will forgo the amount for my hours of undue stress and hardship. I have videos and photos of this situation and you should have clear recording of all.

I rented a moving truck from Budget on Aug 15th, 2015. I was moving from Louisiana to Texas. About an hour into my drive, the truck started smoking. I pulled over only to notice transmission fluid leaking terribly. I called their roadside assistance at 5:30 pm. They told me the ETA for a mechanic to come out was 9:00 p. Around 9:30 p. no mechanic, so I called back only for them to tell me that the mechanic said he'd come and I'd abandoned the truck.
Mind you I was on I-10 in the middle of NOWHERE! Why would I, a female by herself risk walking on a dark interstate? Anyway at 12:00 midnight a wrecker came to recover their truck only because they thought I'd abandoned the truck. Little to their surprise I was still inside of the truck. So the wrecker takes the truck to the truck yard and then brings me to a hotel to get a room for the night. Meanwhile I'm still trying to get a resolution from Budget. I was told that a mechanic will be there 7:00 am Sunday morning. Guess what? NO mechanic! I had to call my mom to come and find me on the highway to bring me to another moving truck company to rent another truck. Once I got another truck. We had to unload the Budget truck onto the other truck. (Very tiring by the way.)
I got a call from Budget around 11:00 am Sunday asking me what hotel am I at, just so they'll know, but she'll contact me later with an update on getting me another truck. By then I'd already purchased another truck from another company on my own. Monday morning comes around 10:00 am Budget called me again about an ETA on an mechanic coming for 3:00 pm. Are you kidding me?! Good thing I'd already gotten a new truck from another company or I'd probably still be sitting on the side of the road today which is Wednesday Aug. 19, 2015. Budget is the worst company I have ever dealt with!

I rented my truck Wednesday, August 5, 2015. I purchased insurance upon pick-up. I was driving from Dallas to Las Vegas. When I got to New Mexico (20 miles from Albuquerque), at 3pm, my truck skidded off the highway because the wheels broke from my trailer. When I contacted Roadside, and told them that the trailer's wheel broke off, I skidded off the highway, almost getting into a horrible accident or could have possibly died. I told them that I needed a new trailer, and by the looks of how the wheel is sitting, this situation will not be fixed right away, and I needed to make it to Vegas that night as I will be starting my new job. They could actually give a damn about my unfortunate circumstance.
After calling them multiple times to get an estimate time of when someone will make it out there to assist me, they said someone will come help shortly. I waited for 4 hrs, only to have the mechanic tell me the same thing that I told them. It was past 7pm then. I took my car off the trailer and drove in Albuquerque. After the mechanic spoke to Budget, they stated that I would have to spend the night there (on my expense, because they wouldn't be paying for it) until the following day at noon.
The next day at 8am I contacted them to see if there were any trailers left in the area so that I can leave earlier. They said that they were all rented. I complained to customer that this whole situation could have been handled better. They are not the ones who are stuck in the middle of the highway in a different state by themselves. I told them that I shouldn't have to be paying for the crappy trailer that caused me so much problems. They told me to call their claims department when my contract ends to disputed any charges.
And so I contacted claims, and they stated that they don't feel that I should get the full trailer reimbursement of the trailer because they fixed the situation and I was able to get to Vegas... Oh, so... for me to get a reimbursement on a crappy trailer, I would have to abandon my car in NM for Budget to feel that I was treated unfairly. Oh, let me add that miles later when I got to AZ, another wheel went flat, but after dealing with their poor customer service, I paid out of pocket to get it fixed just so that I would not spend another night on the road.
Please please at all cost avoid this horrible company. especially if you need to transport your car. Oh, get this, the mechanic shop that my trailer went to stated that they seem to get customers who get screwed over by Budget all the time. If that doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what does. Stay away from their poor quality products! U-Haul, or Penske will treat you better, and you will definitely have your money worth with them. My boyfriend actually called U-Haul and explained the situation and they offered to assist us with a replacement trailer (Even though I had a Budget truck. Rented a truck to travel from Dayton Ohio to Atlanta Georgia on July 26, 2015. Upon arrival, I had to wait 30 minutes before someone came and waited on me. The attendant was new to renting the vehicles and was very unfamiliar with the system. I originally had a dolly on the rental agreement but no longer needed it and wanted it taken off. The attendant did not know how to remove the dolly, so after several attempts he was able to remove the dolly from the order. We went out to inspect the truck that I was to receive and due to the weather being very warm, I checked the air condition on the vehicle. No cold air would blow out.
Since the rental facility was in the same building as Pep Boys Service Center, the sales person had a technician try and recharge the system. After an hour had passed, recharging the air condition system was unsuccessful. The attendant then attempted to put me in another truck. He could not switch the truck numbers in the computer to allow me to take another truck. He then called a coworker to help walk him through the process to no avail. I had to have a truck on this day due to having to be out of my home I was moving from that day. The attendant was frustrated and not able to change the rental.
After 2 hours, I advised him that I had to take the truck with no air because I had to move my belongings that day. He advised me to request reimbursement when arrived in Atlanta. After advising the attendant in Atlanta about what happened, she gave me a phone number to call and said they will reimbursement me for my inconvenience. I contacted the number provided and after telling the person what happened and that the attendants both said I would be reimbursed for my troubles, she said she would give me $15.00. I asked to speak to her manager and she put me on hold for 40 minutes with no one picking up the phone. I continued to call back and nothing was resolved. When trying to get help there was two men in a pick up truck coming back around many times knowing I was there alone and when this happen I try to tell the person from Budget what was going on and when was help was on the way and all they could say to me "there is nothing we can do." I end up spending 3 days at a motel at my expense. My bird had died from the heat and that Monday I was suppose to start a new job and I lost it because of Budget not wanting to replace the tow dolly when I called that Saturday. That Monday I was still in Van Horn. The tow dolly they brought to me was the wrong one and the broken one was fix. I went to get myself and left the one other one there that I could not use.
Budget I would not recommend to anyone at all. They do not care about their customers at all but taking your money and leave you at the side of the road with their old equipment that needs to be replace. My pet bird who had died from the heat that day there was no apologize for all that this company has put me through but giving me a hard time for 3 days of being stranded in Van Horn Texas. You don't want to rent anything from this company driving across country. My destination I was heading to Florida.

Reserved a 16' truck online in June 2015 with a quote for $81.49 including miles, taxes, and fees at Jennings Auto Center Denbigh, 15034 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23608. Our move was set for 8/1/2015 for 11:00 am. We were running a little late and contacted the location to say that it would be closer to 12 pm. Our daughter went to pick up the truck and waited for quite some time. When they finally got to her, they told her there would be a $25 extra charge because she was under 25 years. With that said, she called us and said she would be coming back to get us to pick up the truck because she wasn't willing to pay the extra charge. At that time, it was about 1 pm and the gentleman told her that if she was not back by 2 pm, he was going to give the truck away.
We returned to pick up the truck only to find that he cancelled our reservation at 1:30 pm and was not able to put it back into the system at the same price we originally rented it for. He stated that the only thing he could do was rent it to us at the price of $124. We previously called around the day before to find a cheaper rate only to find out that there were no other trucks in the vicinity available until 3:15 pm that day. The gentleman was already in a defensive take it or leave it position and because we had to move out of storage and were 2 hours away from home, we were left with no choice but to rent the truck so we didn't get penalized for the storage unit. Very unsatisfied and disgusted with the way we were treated and with the I don't care attitude of the gentleman at Budget Truck Rental, Jennings Auto Center Denbigh, 15034 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23608.

I want to be fair. In the contract that you sign, buried amongst all the words, there is a paragraph that deals with truck and location that basically says that they are entitled to change location and truck size at any moment. So, bear in mind that your reservation doesn't mean anything. And that's what happened to me, only that they changed the reservation BY EMAIL, 15 minutes before I was supposed to pick up the truck to a location that was closed at the time I was supposed to pick it up. I ended going to an office much farther away and renting a much bigger size that I needed. When I called customer service they refer to the clause in the contract and didn't care a bit about having lost 2 hours on something that should've taken me 15 minutes. IF YOU WANT PROFESSIONAL SERVICE, I IMPLORE YOU, LOOK ELSEWHERE.
