American Van Lines was amazing from start to finish. They were very thorough and prompt with sending me some links to go through and do a digital inventory with some pictures and video. They were able to calculate everything they needed off that and provide me with an estimate that was truly binding. They were super flexible on the deposit upfront and the payment methods.

Their driver is not involved at all in the pay. So, he just shows up and he's like, "I'm here to take care of all this stuff, pick it all up, and label it, and get in the truck. And you will see us lock it up and I will see you in Florida." There was a small delay during the trip because he had to get some maintenance done to the truck but it wasn't something foreseeable or avoidable. I would use American Van Lines the next time.

Art, the guy I was in contact with, seemed to be most honest, helpful, and informative. I had a great experience with him. Because of the time difference, being in California, sometimes I wouldn't hear from him. But that was understandable and he was pretty responsive. The mover was very hardworking. At first, I was a little concerned because he came into our place and said, "Oh, you have a bed that needs to be moved and you have all this furniture. I don't have that on the inventory list.". Luckily, I printed the inventory list and showed him. It took a while to get started but the mover was on the phone trying to get everything sorted out. After 40 minutes of getting everything resolved, the crew started doing their job. They worked nonstop for seven hours.

Everything arrived undamaged besides one mirror and our mattress that got a little screwed up because they were trying to get a king in an elevator. American van Lines is a great moving company. They're honest and they do a good job.

The crew was very efficient and polite. They wore masks. Everything that they packed was packed well. They delivered on their promises. They picked us up Wednesday and the driver offered to come on Saturday. But it was inclement weather and we weren't sure we were gonna make it through by then. So, he said he would accommodate us and deliver on Monday which was kind of him. On arrival, everything was fine. A box or two were slightly dented but the stuff inside wasn't damaged.

American Van Lines delayed our pick-up, and we were supposed to get $125 from that but we never got that. I reached out to Teresa and never heard back from her. Also, their timeline on our pick-up was not great. Then on our drop-off, we were emailing them every day to find out when they were coming and we had to stay in a hotel for like a week waiting for them to delivery our things. Aside from that, the initial person that I spoke with was not very clear on what I needed to give him. So, apparently, our inventory was very off. The moving team was great but we had a three-bedroom townhome and it took them 13 hours to load us, which was kind of crazy. They were parked right outside our garage so, don't understand why it took them that long.

I had a little bit of trouble getting ahold of American Van Lines right when I first called them. There was some confusion because they didn't quite understand exactly where the location that I was moving to was at. It's somewhere in Brevard and kind of a new town. But the reps were all good and I've had no problems with anybody. There was some confusion as to when they were going to get there simply because we had to switch around the closing date on the old house and we also got a hell of a snowstorm about the same time. I couldn't have asked for a better moving crew. Three guys got in there and they got the stuff that I asked them to move. They even suggested that there were a few things that I might want to move with them that I really didn't have room for them in the truck that I had and they didn't charge me extra for that either.

American Van Lines was very good. They gave me an estimate, which was very accurate, and the move day was perfect. They showed up when I wanted them to and the guys that came and unloaded were great. We didn't have any problems with them. They were loading half a truck for one person and a half for another person. So, the moving time was based on that time frame. But they gave me a certain time frame for so many days that they were going to pick up, then they gave me a 24 hour's notice. If they could give a little bit longer notice, that would be better. But that's just something that is part of that business and I understand that fully. Other than that, I'd tell my friends to go ahead and use them,

The rep walked virtually through my house to identify which pieces of furniture would be moved and which things they would pack and I would pack. I got an estimate and then we set the date. Things worked perfectly. I closed on my new house and they had my furniture here three days later.

They loaded up our two-bedroom apartment and it went really smoothly. They were very efficient. They had all the blankets, wraps, ties, and everything they needed to properly take care of our furniture. Ali, the loadmaster was very careful with the items. Both Ali and Manny the driver did a very good job.

He used to be a driver for them and he just started doing the sales. But he knew everything about the business. I moved so many times, and there's always something that would go wrong. But with American Van Lines, it was good. The crew they sent out to pack us up did an outstanding job. And they worked nonstop, no breaks. They were there at my house for nine hours and didn't leave until 11:00 at night. And they had to drive from our house down to their headquarters, which was a four-hour drive. And I know they would get home at least 3:00 in the morning. I highly recommend them. My Realtor is gonna move and I gave him their contact info, too.

I contacted somebody else and they were adamant about putting it in storage. I contacted American Van Lines for a second opinion and the young lady didn't think that would happen. So, I was comfortable with the timeline they gave me. Through circumstances beyond everyone's control, it keeps changing. I get the availability of drivers. And on the other side of that coin, I know that the Realtor I worked with here, which is 750 miles from where I moved from, had a client that was moving to Georgia and couldn't even get any national company to return his call. So I know that given the circumstances, they did a good job. The driver was a good man. And he had a good crew that he oversaw.

They were two days late in showing up and they were because the weekend before, they were supposed to move somebody out of an apartment downtown Chicago, and they got there and the woman discovered who lived there that move out was prohibited on the weekend. I know that's the case because my son lives there. So the drivers had to sit around for two days, and that caused me to be late. I know it's hard to keep a crew. It's hard to hire an additional person to come in and expedite a pack and unpack. The guys were professional and worked hard.

The rep I had was okay at first, then I lost track of her for a little while. But it wasn't a big deal because towards the end, she got back in touch with me. I was a little concerned about the exact date they were going to pick me up, but at the end, she did a good job and let me know when they were coming. They moved 80 boxes and one and a half bedrooms because we got rid of a lot of stuff. So, it wasn't a whole lot and the items took about half a van. They did an inventory ahead of time, we estimated how much the cost was going to be, and we were really close.

The moving crew was a guy and a girl and they had done a lot of this before. They were really easy to work with and talk to. They were really professional. There were a couple challenges that they had and they did a good job solving them. So, I was impressed. In the end, there was a little bit of damage, but it wasn't enough to worry about and it wasn't their fault. All in all, American Van Lines came in at the price they said they were going to come in at and I enjoyed working with the guys that did the job, both on the pick-up and the delivery.

THEY DID NOT FIT EVERYTHING ON THE TRUCK. Then they told me it was our fault because we added a lot of stuff – which we did not.

In addition… I scheduled for crating of some specialty glass items – this was never scheduled… When the driver arrived, he told me that he was not aware of the glass front cabinets and other specialty items and said that we were supposed to pack those differently – no one ever gave me packing parameters or instructions and they showed up in all the videos… I had to sign an pay for everything even though they didn’t move everything… the only resolution I received was to schedule another move at a 40% premium for the rest of the stuff… I registered a complaint that was supposed to be escalated – I have heard nothing and it has been 2 weeks. I wish there were negative stars, I would award them that. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. We have moved many times, and this was by far the most horrific experience we have ever had. They showed up a day late, with a truck too small. Couldn't load that day. Returned a few days later with the SAME TRUCK. Still too small. Once they finally decided they would rent a UHaul to drag behind the truck (!!!), they loaded our things 4 days late. They then charged us double the estimate, but by then they had loaded our things and refused to unload until we paid in full, effectively holding us hostage and promising to resolve issues afterwards.

They arrived days late at our destination (after their promised window), we had to spend 3 extra nights hotel and food/beverage, and then basically disappeared; no returned phone calls or emails, no attempt to resolve any of the issues we experienced. Oh, and they asked ME to find some help to unload the move at our destination! Absolutely Atrocious. Please don't use them, I am telling everyone I know. Also, several items were damaged, scratched, and smashed. Truly a traumatic and heartbreaking experience.

Refused to compensate for the damaged and lost items despite buying an expensive insurance policy. They have hundreds of complaints filed against them on Better Business Bureau currently. Reviewed Oct. 4, 2021

This was, by far, the worst experience I've ever had with a business in my life. Moving is stressful enough without these guys making your life a living hell. Let's start with the pick-up... My window was 8-11 AM, so I plan my day around them coming. That was my first mistake (spoilers: not canceling them immediately was my worst mistake), so 11:30 AM rolls around and as you can imagine, they haven't shown up. So I call customer service to see what's going on and a just wonderfully rude rep tells me that my pick-up will now be tomorrow and no one bothered to call me and let me know -- because you know, they don't actually give a crap about customer service (for the record, the last part was my takeaway, not what was said. I'd share the reason why my pickup was delayed, but I never actually got one).

Cool. So now my pickup is scheduled for the same time the next day (reminder: that was 8-11 AM) and naturally, they ring my doorbell at 7:15 AM. Did I get the call from the driver 30 minutes in advance to let me know they were coming, which I was promised? Of course not, don't be ridiculous. But hey, they showed up, right? That's something. But oh how I'd come to wish they never had. The driver was professional enough -- we even kind of liked him even though they scratched the living hell out of the hardwood floor at the house and didn't seem to be taking all that much care in how they wrapped some expensive items.

One such fun example was them taking apart my Sleep Number mattress frame -- despite my repeated requests for them to leave it in one piece (another spoiler: and let's not get too far ahead in the story but they broke several parts of the bed and didn't even try to reassemble it despite the guarantee that anything they took apart would be put back together for us -- but we'll get back to this later). The pick-up process ends up taking about 7 hours. We bought the drivers and workers lunch, tipped them well and left with a promise that our stuff would arrive at its destination "sometime late next week". For reference, the pickup occurred on July 30th. A week passes... And then a second passes... And then a third week passes...

So it's a Thursday and we're now at the end of the delivery window -- still having heard absolutely nothing from the company about when my stuff may end up showing up at the house. So I give customer service a call and they tell me that the truck which my stuff was on had broken down in Texas (we were moving from CA to OH). Initially, the customer service rep told me it broke down "about a week ago" but that date seemed to change anytime I asked for actual info. She went on to tell me that my stuff definitely wouldn't be coming in the delivery window they had given me. She told me "we'd know more on Monday".

Monday comes and the customer service rep calls me back and basically gives me the verbal equivalent of an unknowing shoulder shrug when I ask her when our items would be getting to us. This process repeats itself for a couple of weeks. They'd set a date for when they'd have an answer for me, that date would come, and then they'd blow me off with another date much further into the future.

It's now about 5 weeks since my stuff has been picked up and we're no closer to receiving it than we were before. I think they must have thought they'd exhausted their time limit on that excuse, so they moved on to "A new driver has been assigned and your stuff will be there in a couple of days". Did they give me a date, or even a window for when it would be arriving? No of course not, and if you thought they did that's honestly on you. The next 10 days or so was full of more customer service calls, more non-answers, and no actual stuff being delivered. At one point our stuff was supposed to arrive "Thursday or Friday" and on Wednesday that was changed to "Saturday or Sunday", which was changed to "Thursday or Friday the following week".

Then the call came. My stuff was going to be delivered on Thursday. Another fun fact, this was one day shy of the seven-week anniversary of my stuff being picked up. So finally our things are delivered and I will say, the guys who dropped my stuff off were professional and hard-working. Their policy includes a (borderline offensive) $30 fee as compensation. Which came to just over $750. They then offered slightly more than that as the final number... We lost well over 2k in not being able to work, slept on an air mattress in an empty house for almost two months, and that's all they'll do for us. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, EVER. If they're your only option, just burn your things and start over. I assure you it will be easier and less stressful for you than engaging with these people.

I looked on the website on the best movers that were available, and American Van Lines was one of the top five. I selected American because we have lots of antiques and glassware made in the 1800s and it said that they were the best for heirlooms. When I called, I got a quote right away. The customer service rep was excellent and followed up with me several times. Then I got assigned a person that would work the move. She called me many times, making sure everything was okay, especially as we got closer to the date. Then one gentleman was in charge of the move, and he came to Charlotte and then followed. Then we had the driver. The two guys were excellent. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. We never lost a thing and nothing got broken.

They loaded in one day in Charlotte, which I didn't think was possible, but they did and then took off. Then they drove the next day. On the third day, they pulled into Destin, Florida and unloaded us that morning. One thing that was big that has to do with American Van Lines is that they're not a broker. They're owners. It was important to me. I didn't want them to just farm it out to anybody. I could have done that.

I would like to preface the context of this review by stating that we are still in the throes of this harrowing experience and we are still being denied our personal property. From day one, our dealings with American Van Lines has been an absolute nightmare (including our move out of our house that we sold). There has been no communication unless we hunt people down. I have lost track of the amount of people we have spoken to, and no matter who we speak to or what we say, nothing has been resolved. Not a single person in that company has made any effort to get us our things.

We closed on our house in early August and have been ready to accept our property since 9/4, a date we had given to them in mid August. We were given a 21 day window in which to expect our delivery. Throughout those 21 days, we were given countless scheduled moving dates, all of which were canceled day of. My family took days off of work, we sat all these scheduled days and waited without any communication, only to find we would not be receiving our property once we called them—absolutely no regard or respect for human interest.

I sit here writing this as I wait once again during a window of supposed delivery. Our window has been delayed twice already today. I have no reason to believe that I will be given my belongings today. American Van Lines track record with even us alone tells me this will not happen today. We also were told last minute that we will not be receiving everything during this window.

The cumulation of these horrible events has put stress not only on myself, my husband, and my children, but on my entire family, who we have been forced to reside with for the last three months. The part that appalls me the most is the utter lack of regard for basic human compassion. Through all of this, we have never had the courtesy of speaking with a higher up who could at least provide us with some peace and assurance that we will receive our property, or that our job would be given any sort of priority after being treated so horribly. At this point, I feel as though our belongings are stolen.

The area is a western part of Wyoming, not far from Idaho. It's a rural area in Star Valley. So, there are a lot of companies that just flat out won't deliver here anything. I wanted to move out of California quickly. So, there was American Van Lines. They subcontracted out to Move for Less. They're the ones who did the picking up and delivering of everything. American Van Lines was more like a coordinator. They were polite. But I can tell they were super busy and suspect they are overworked because, talking to those folks, it seemed like they were juggling a lot of people. And something's weird about their phone system. It's oversubscribed. Even hearing and understanding people on their phone system is quite challenging.

Whoever set it up is trying to get as much out of it as they can for as little money as they can because it is very hard to understand what anybody on that system is saying. If they have any kind of strong accent, combined with that phone system, it makes it incredibly difficult to communicate with them. So, there were times I was actually wondering, "Am I talking to American Van Lines or am I talking to a scammer?" Because there are a lot of scammers in the field of movers. That was a big challenge.

The person I worked with, Destiny, was super polite, very professional and did her best to work with me on figuring out who was where and who would pick up what and when. So, in terms of the performance of the people working there, they did a great job and they do good with what they have to work with. They're just a bit spread thin and probably have too much of a workload. For as many people that are moving out of California, American Van Lines did a great job.

The folks that picked up my stuff were all professional and communicated clearly. There was a miscommunication early on in that I told them, "Hey, you're not going to be able to bring a big truck up here because my house has a service road. It's a tight turn. Even tow trucks have a hard time getting up here." They said, "Okay, fine, we'll send a courier truck," or a little box truck but it was still a huge truck. There was no way they would get it. So, they ended up having to move everything by hand a few hundred feet. Those were young, strong guys, so they did a great job. I took them well because they put up with the neighborhood I was in. It's a real pain for anyone to move out of or into there. They also put up with the fact that the house I moved out of has ridiculous numbers of steps for no good reason.

After assuring me that they would meet our move date, AVL delayed our move twice at the last minute, causing our buyer to miss her move in date. This was very distressing since I booked the move months in advance and said, "We absolutely have to be out by September 12th" every time I spoke to them. Every single time the representative assured me they would make that date. I explained that we would be in another state by our move date and that a friend would be there to let the movers in--and we couldn't expect him to have to deal with any issues. Absolutely no problem, I was told. Sadly, I got an email on the day the movers were supposed to be packing, saying that the driver was delayed and couldn't make the date. Then they delayed it a second time (driver again), putting us in a terrible position since our buyer now owned the home.

When the driver did arrive, there were two people instead of the four I had been promised and the driver refused to pack for us, even though we had paid for packing. He said AVL never paid him enough to do packing. After we called the company and complained, the driver agreed to pack some things, but left about half of the house behind (he didn't have enough boxes). During the set up of our move I walked through the house with the assessor on the phone, explaining everything we had (they don't send anyone over to look for themselves) and it was the assessor who picked the number of boxes based on what I told her. She must have estimated low but I think some of the issue was because single items (such as a small lamp) were sometimes packed in a medium box-- filling them up fast. There were also wardrobe boxes on our list, but I don't think the driver came with any of those--so things like coats took up box space quickly as well.

In addition to that, the driver said that if something wasn't on our moving list he wasn't taking it. AVL has binding agreements which I haven't seen before, despite my many moves. I learned that when you sign one of those, you are signing away any chance of them taking anything you may have forgotten to include on the packing list. Offering extra money didn't matter because the driver had his van half full of another person's belongings.

This was amazing to us since we made it very clear that we were moving a four bedroom home and that, in my experience, has always required an empty van. Also, even though we had many things listed we weren't detailed enough. For example, the driver unscrewed our water cooler, leaving the water jug behind because it wasn't specifically listed in our "water cooler" description. We had artwork I had listed and didn't receive, along with most of the contents of our garage because if you list "tools" that isn't specific enough. A rake, for example isn't considered to be a tool and if it isn't listed on its own (despite the full house pack) then it isn't going.

We called our Customer Service Representative several times--mostly she wouldn't take our calls. We could, however, reach her by calling from different phone numbers. On the few times she did talk to us all of her sentences started with "Unfortunately..." and it was downhill from there. Somehow all of this was our fault--I still haven't figure out how, but that is what they were saying. They did offer us a second van, at our expense, to be sent sometime in the future. However, because of their delay we were out of time and the new owner was literally standing outside of the home trying to move in her belongings.

AVL did offer us compensation for their delay--$30 per late day which was such an insult I refused it, even when they offered to double it (I think the grand total was $250). I expect that is nothing next to the cost our buyer incurred by having to cancel her moving company when we missed our date. I had hoped to compensate her with the money but of course this amount is nothing next to the thousands and thousands of dollars a full move costs.

When their driver got to our new home he explained that the delay had nothing to do with him--the late date was on his schedule all along. I don't know who to believe. We have been in Minnesota for several weeks now, the moving van arrived four days ago. Currently, half of everything we own is in a storage facility in Ohio. We had to pay to have the rest of the house packed (fast!) and driven out here, something we have never, ever had to do with any other company. I am sure we will incur significant cost.

Honestly it isn't the money AVL might have charged us--we would have paid extra for any reasonable item not on our list--it was the abysmal customer service, the fact that literally no one cared and that after months of talking to these people no one bothered to review the things we needed to know. All I ever received was a list of things they wouldn't pack, such as cleaners, liquids and food. We packed those ourselves and thought they would take care of the rest. Boy oh boy were we ever wrong. They don't label any of the boxes they pack either--not even with a room--so you have to figure our what they packed by opening the box.

I have never given any company less than three stars (I honestly can't remember leaving less than four) but this was beyond awful and this company is probably deserving of something like a half a star--for eventually showing up. If you are contemplating a move, I know there are several excellent companies that care about their customers--but this isn't one of them.

I've known that American Van Lines has been in business for a long period of time, and they got a pretty good reputation. The only thing that I didn’t like was having to go through a broker to get to them. The move was from Maryland to Minnesota and because American Van Lines didn't have a van going that far north, they used Oasis. My brother said there was only one guy unloading that truck, but he did a fantastic job and was a hard worker. So, that went very well. They didn't put my computers in boxes though. Everything was packed already except for the computers. We had bought a couple of boxes from them, but the computers were never put in boxes. They were just sort of put in the van. My brothers didn’t know what to look for and I’m not there, so I don’t know what conditions the computers are in.

Other than that, the final cost was good. I did three places, and American Van Lines was in between the two. I didn’t want the cheapest, and I didn’t want the most expensive. So, I picked American Van Lines. The cost fit our budget and we were able to get it done. I would recommend the gentleman that did Oasis. He was a hard worker when he was here at the house. He hired a local person that I don’t think has ever moved stuff before, but I watched them pack the truck for a little while, and it was a good packing. The weight was what it was supposed to be.

The one thing that was concerning was I was gonna fly in to Minnesota and meet the guy there. He left on Monday, and he said he wasn’t gonna arrive until Friday because he was only allowed to drive 11 hours a day. So, I booked a flight for Wednesday. My flight leaves at 5:30 in the afternoon. I got a call in the morning saying he was already there. I went, “Holy crap.” I wasn't ready for that. What I did was I called my brother up and I gave him all the numbers needed to get into the storage unit. The guy took five hours, but he unloaded every piece by himself.

I moved from Arlington, Virginia to Denver, Colorado and as a result, I needed someone to move all my stuff. I called American Van Lines and got a quote. About three days before the pickup window, they called with a verified window on when they would be showing up. They showed up on time and everything was taken in a reasonable amount of time. I was moving from an apartment building to a house, so they had to arrive on a certain street at a certain time for the loading docks and they followed it seamlessly. Then, it was delivered approximately two weeks later, which was faster than the window that they gave as an option.

The whole time, Monica, the rep who assisted me, was super communicative where things stood in the process and gave very clear updates when things were delayed. American Van Lines moved in an expedient fashion and everything made sense. The only thing is, there was a furniture item that was damaged. But it was no one's fault and things can happen in major moves like that. It was a very positive experience and based on my own interactions, I would recommend it.

American Van Lines was one of the few companies that would tell me upfront a pretty good estimate of what it was going to be rather than a lot of the other ones where they tack on a lot of stuff after the fact. They did not charge me any difference to the final price so it was 100% accurate. Everyone that I worked with was great. The moving crew was hands down, absolutely fantastic, exceeded my expectations, polite, and handled my things with care. Nothing was severely damaged in the process and I was very happy. Overall, American Van Lines is a great company to use for any distance of moving and you can do business with them with confidence that you'll be satisfied in the end.

I dealt with several people at American Van Lines, and because of COVID, it was a little different. My move had to be rescheduled twice, and they were very accommodating and understanding of that. The hardest part was trying to get through to them, but I got that the closer I got to my move, the more available they were to me, and I got to know the people that I was talking with on the phone. I always felt comfortable with them.

We were in East Tennessee, but all the storage had to be picked up in Memphis, which was a day away. We had to make arrangements to get there in time for pickup. We met the driver there and she was very capable and I enjoyed working and talking with her. She let us know what her schedule was, that changed en route, and she was very informative and letting us feel like, "This is what's going to take place, and this is where it will be. I give you this certain amount of time of when it's going to be arrived, but I can approximately tell you just depending on weather and circumstances and other pickups that are called in too." Then she met us on the end.

The crew was different in Memphis. Then we had to pay extra for a different kind of truck to be able to come up our curvy mountain driveway and so the driver had to rent a different vehicle in Reno and it composed a different crew. I then had some furniture damaged and I didn't know if it took place in transport, settling, or with the movers transporting from Reno to a shuttle to get to where we are outside of Tahoe. The glass broke on one large painting, so that's going to be a little high dollar to replace it. They also ripped a large silk screen that I had gotten in Asia, which is pretty irreplaceable, and certain wood things I did. But with wood glue, I can at least repair them and fix them. I got one of the insurances, so I'm planning on report it within 90 days when we're still unpacking even though I was told that I had nine months.

I also had two huge pieces of furniture that would be impossible for me and my husband to put together by ourselves, and so before the crew left, I told them to put those two things together or help us do it, which they didn't like. I get that they didn't want the responsibility of it, but it had to be done, and it was in my contract. Overall, I really appreciate American Van Lines working with us.

I liked American Van Lines' pricing. Even their professionalism made me feel more comfortable. The guy that they subcontracted was Chris and he was phenomenal. He did the whole thing on his own. Amazing. Something that he did that maybe not all movers do was he gave me his cell phone number and kept me posted. I could check up on him, see where he was. My car was really heavy and he was even contemplating meeting me just to remove some of the items. He was very nice. At the end, he just came straight to the house.

My kids are little so they're always running around. And no matter how big the load was, Chris was always aware of where the kids were. That meant volumes, because most people just care about doing their job and leaving. And he made sure that they were all safe. I tried to keep them out of his way as much as I could, but kids are kids and they move around. He was very professional and respectful. That's a company that Amreican Van Lines subcontract more often because they're very good.

The American Van Lines rep stuck to his gun as far as rate. He could have done better, but he did his job. He managed to lock everything down, get everything processed. The quote was accurate. It's just that, there were all those insurances that I found out later that I had to get, also a fee for transporting. There was a van required to my residence from the trailer. I paid it when they let me know that it was required. Not a big deal. All that went fine. I wasn't there pn moving day. They had to hire a third-party company to build custom crates. And this was in Georgia. Then they left the crates there and the movers came. The drivers came to pick up the crates, put them in the van. And that was it.

I have a big Sprinter van, so I drove out 30 miles to pick the items up from the guy at the trailer depot, then they still charged me the fee for the van service, which I did not need. I told them to refund it but they didn't do that. It was like $600. That’s an expensive amount of money. They’re very busy so it's hard to chase people down for stuff. That's one of the biggest gripes I have with the company, is they should be more on top of it. They're on top as far as locking down the sale, getting you booked in, taking your money. But when it comes to something like that that’s something simple, they should be equally as attentive.

Other than that, the drivers are great. I couldn't ask for better drivers. They let me know here and there where they were. They let me know when they got delayed because of the truck broke down a few times. And they took care of the items, because they're expensive items, and they made sure that they weren't damaged. They arrived without a scratch on them.

Disappointed and worried after choosing this company. I signed up more than a month ago, paid half of the cost as a deposit, and paid extra to ensure a pick up this weekend. Even this week, they made me pay more money for our move (this is more than half the total cost of the move, paid before anyone even showed up). They called yesterday asking if they could put off our move more than 10 days, 2 days before they were going to pick up. Of course we couldn't do that, as we had people moving into our home and flights scheduled for Monday, as well as everything in our house packed up and ready. Now it's the day before our possible pick up and I've had zero updates from the company and no clue when they will get our items picked up. My husband half believes they won't even come this weekend, which is not great confidence in a company that you are paying a ton of money to move you.

Then I had a rude customer service manager call me, once again trying to push the move out past our pick up dates, despite us not being able to given people moving into our home and flights being paid for/scheduled. Her great suggestion? Well, one day before our move was supposed to happen with this company, she's happy to "cancel our service and give us a full refund". Like how is that a feasible option according to this company? It's really disappointing and worrisome and I honestly wish I had chosen someone else to move our items. Please, heed our advice and think carefully before you choose them, especially since their solution to everything is simply canceling your move if they don't want to fulfill their obligation.

I eventually worked with American Van Lines and had a terrible experience. After comparing prices between companies, I decided to choose AVL because they are more expensive and have great reviews on their website. This turned out to be a mistake. Despite the very high price, they almost exclusively hire smaller van lines and collect the profits. They are a middle man who provide exactly 0 benefits over the other van lines. Next time I would just go with a cheaper company and at least know what I am getting.

On top of all this, the worst part of my experience was that my Chanel handbag was stolen by Sprinter Van Lines that American Van Lines partners with. Everything arrived, besides that expensive product. Please be aware of the dishonest service before booking. I hired American Van Lines, and then I was told that Springer Van Lines will be in charge of my move a week before the proposed pickup date. I had packing and unpacking service with them. During the packing service, I left my apartment and let two movers pack after they told me it would be easier for them to move around if I wasn't home. They quoted me about 2 weeks to move cross country, gave multiple incorrect arrival dates, and eventually took 4 entire weeks.

After I unpacked everything in my new home in Cali, I realized that a dust bag that was holding the Chanel bag was open and empty.. Apparently the handbag was gone... I eventually contacted American van lines, they informed me the mover described I made them aware of an expansive bag and he advised me to take the bag with me. But that conversation did not happen at all... It was a very disappointing and frustrating moving experience with both American Van lines and Sprinter Van lines. At the end both companies took a very little accountabilities. I would not recommend to spend your money on such a sketchy service.

I would never use them again. When I first contacted them they couldn't be more helpful...till after I gave my deposit. Then when I called could not get anyone to answer my calls. The men that moved me were very unprofessional and careless. End result: they damaged almost every piece they moved including a wall in the home I moved from. The delivery supervisor told me I couldn't write on the delivery receipt, that it was just to acknowledge receipt of furniture. But then when I filed the claim I was told they wouldn't acknowledge everything because I didn't note it on the delivery receipt. What a sneaky way to avoid paying me. Do yourself a favor and do not use them. Over $2,000 in damage and all they awarded me was $300.

Do not hire American Van lines. To start they promised me a price, scheduled my move. After going with their offer over others because price and reviews seemed optimal, they raised their price by $400. That was just the beginning of the American Van Lines nightmare. The movers showed up at my house a day earlier than initial informed and planned, and it was late in the day. They were packing until 1am and were so tired they could move the truck out of my street and had to sleep in front of my house. I had my possessions moved into storage while I was closing on my new house.

A few months later after closing, I went to retrieve my belongings. I was not there when they were delivered. I found a significant amount of damage that seems either intentional or massively negligent. They dropped a high end TV. They Rolled a marble table cracking all the edges (Even after I specifically noted and paid for it to be wrapped and handled with care), they broke the prongs off the bottom of a restoration hardware couch, uncovered part of the leather. Broke other misc items. Then me reaching out, they didn't respond to me for over 2 months. AVL told the BBB that I had signed off on my items were in good condition when delivered, which never happened. All in all they broke/damaged over 20k in belongings, have taken no accountability. I had insurance via my home policy but they don't cover mover negligence, only natural disasters or theft. Pay more for a better company, don't use American Van Lines.

When I first called, I spoke with a girl who got my information and did an estimate for me. She was a hot mess and had a lot of trouble understanding what my items were. She didn't know what a sofa table was. It was a very long, slow process. Then, when I got the quote in, there were insane items on there, and the weights were completely exaggerated. She had a Ford fender on there. We had two bicycles in the garage, but she put in two mopeds. She also had our garbage can weighing 50 pounds, and it was just a regular little, standard garbage can. I called American Van Lines back and I got ahold of another estimator, being complained about how bad the estimate was, and that particular girl was wonderful and got the estimate cleaned up for us. I even called her back a couple of times to take things off that we decided to sell.

Then, a girl sent an email saying that she was our moving coordinator. She called one time to verify items on the list. Each time I called and left a message for her with questions, she never called me back. We were wondering when the movers are going to come. She called at one point saying it was scheduled between 7th to 9th, but they were running behind, so they couldn't come ‘til the 10th. I told her that's a big issue because we have to pay additional money to stay in the house even longer.

She said they only cover $30 a day. I told her that it cost us $70 a day to this company that bought our house. She said she would send in to the manager, request to pay 70 instead of 30 since that's what it would cost us. But then, I never heard from her again. I reached out to her multiple times and left voicemails, like, “Hey, can you call me? We want to verify if they're still coming on the 10th for pickup, we want to know if you're going to cover the $70.” She never called me back.

When it came time for the move, the driver called me on the 8th and said that they're going to come the next day, which was nice, and in the timeframe. Then hours after he called, the moving coordinator calls saying the same thing. I told her that I already knew that as the driver called me. Then, the driver themselves kept me well informed when they were going to come. She, again, called well after the driver called, and I told her I already knew. At this point, I was done with her ‘cause she was no help at all. But the driver, Steve, was amazing, and junior was the politest kid I've ever met. Everything was, "Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. May I, ma'am??" My husband loved them.

Some of the items were broken when it arrived. We had one of those entertainment centers that can be bought at Walmart and they're made of a certain kind of plyboard. When they went to pick it up, the thing on the back just disconnected from the unit because it was screwed with plyboard. But we were not upset with little accidents like that, it was not their fault at all. Half the stuff that broke were the ones I got for free from work. It was just cheap furniture. We got a good crew and they worked really hard.

If you're moving across the country and like being charged an outrageous fee, breakage of irreplaceable family heirlooms, missing possessions, and a "Moving Broker", not a "Moving Company". Then this is the company for you. The first contact is with a sales rep and they are so nice and very service oriented. It was a great first contact. He was very informative. Answered all my questions. It was a great hook. It caught this fish, but good. But what they don't tell you caused a huge amount of unnecessary stress and anguish. After that it went downhill from there.

Contractors showed up on the day of the move. Their reason for hiring outside men was so that they could weigh my belongings and charge me the fee according to weight. Yes, I was told that, but you aren't present for the weigh in. The contractors tagged items, packed them in a huge moving box & then tagged the box. That's double tagging to drive the price up. Ended up, they said I have over 3,000 items & that was the reason for the increase in the price. I called several times to complain, but just got a voicemail. By then, I was stuck. They had my whole household on a truck and it was gone.

Direct contact with the company, was impossible. It was email only from them from this point on. However, I did get a three day window for a deliver time with no sense of when the actual delivery date would be. When I did hear from a different "Contractor", at 6 pm, the day before delivery; it was a less than 24 hour notice, & they wanted a credit card or cashier's check for over $9,000, or they would not deliver the rest of my belongings, for an 8 am delivery time. I told them they would have to wait so I could get to my bank & get a cashier's check for the remainder of the fee & not to leave until I met up with them to receive my belongings. The whole process was insane.

They moved my belongings, from what I can count a minimum of four times, which caused a lot of damage and missing items. Family crystal was broken, antique phonograph cylinder records were broken, lampshades crushed, Smart TV screen scratched, furniture scratched, Kitchen boxes missing, metal candle holder stand missing. Again, tried to call the so called "Moving Company", with no response or resolution to my issues. My advice, move it yourself. It may be a headache at first, but it is well worth it in the end. The cost is a lot less. You have the safety that you know your belongings will be packed properly with far less damage, total control of where your belongings are at all times, & when belongings will be delivered safely.

Disappointing and horrible experience with American Van Lines. We scheduled a move months in advance from SF to Chicago in July. Although they came on time during the agreed upon 3 day range (they came on 7/7) and we received calls and communication scheduling this, it has been a nightmare on the other end. After being told repeatedly from American Van Lines staff that 7 days is the average amount of time for our moving zones (from CA to IL), our belongings have not arrived within the delivery estimates. Sleeping on an air mattress for 3 weeks at this point when expecting 1 week has been miserable. We are terrified by the other reviews of missing and damaged belongings and overall horrific experiences that numerous people have had. After receiving an update yesterday (7/28) regarding our delivery, I was told that it has not even left CA yet!!! The date that the truck is supposed to leave CA is now between 8/7-8/8.

Mind you that 7/31 was the end date of our delivery range estimate. It has been over 3 weeks since they took our stuff from CA and supposed to have delivered in IL. We have paid $5,000 for this company to basically hold our things hostage with no transparency nor accountability. It would have been cheaper and much less of a hassle to just get an U-Haul and drive that distance at this point. Please do not work with this company if you can avoid it. They give you a low estimate comparatively upfront but then give you a horrible and harrowing experience after the fact. It's worth putting in more money, if possible, with a company that is more upfront and has a better reputation. I will be sure to let everyone I know not to work with this company.

American Van Lines used two different crews, one at the West Des Moines end, and the other at the Illinois end. In the West Des Moines end, there were a couple of guys who were good, and one of them brought teenaged kids that were terrible. They were packing huge boxes full of books that would break on the way to the van because it was packed improperly. When I watched it, one teenager was throwing the books in. I tried to tell him that he's supposed to stack them up and use smaller boxes, and he wouldn't listen to me. He wasn't supervised. It was too bad because the man who brought them was a hard worker, and I really liked him.

I had a hard time understanding the supervisor and he seemed to not understand our being around. He kept saying he wished he could do this on his own, that we weren't just sitting there. He seemed very uncomfortable with people watching him. He spent a lot of time in the truck. Then he would be moving boxes once in a while.

On the end over here in Illinois, the crew was excellent. Once again, Todd was kind of an oddball. He made sure in the beginning that we didn't think that he was our clerk. I interacted with the crew because I'm a friendly person, and he didn't like that because he's their boss, so that threatened him. We were wary of each other. At the end, I had gone through and shared with him my emotions, and he had at all times remained professional. If he had any bad feelings, he held it in.

Then he couldn't find a box and he was getting very frustrated. I was in a better mood and I told him that it would be alright and that he'd find it. Everybody calmed down. About three minutes later, he found it, and that was the turning point for him and me. We came to an understanding at the end of the whole job. Moving is a horrendously emotional thing and everybody's on edge. But when somebody brings a teenaged kid, they gotta supervise them, or don't bring them, or maybe it shouldn't even be allowed. The supervisor needed to constructively do something with those kids that day.

Fights, Firearms, Damages. American Van Lines has to be the least professional national moving company you can hire. We paid 13k for our move from El Paso TX to La Jolla CA and had a nightmare of an experience and the company could care less. Avoid them at all costs. Our driver got into a physical altercation with his hired helpers and then flashed a pistol he had on his belt in our home. His helpers abandoned the move halfway through leaving the American Van Lines driver to finish the job by himself, he then dragged our heavy expensive furniture across our travertine and cherry wood floors damaging both the floors and the furniture.

It didn't end there, the driver decided not to use the shuttle truck we paid $1,000 in advance for and got his semi trailer stuck in our yard destroying landscaping and lighting. He slept in his truck blocking the only in and out access to our home and since emailing and calling American Van Lines we have not heard back from their careless and unprofessional customer service department. If you care about your family's safety and the condition of your property please avoid this horrendous company. American Van Lines is what's wrong with American customer service today. Original Review: July 13, 2021

MOVER BEWARE - think twice before hiring American Van Lines!! The most stressful move ever - if you like a late pick up, chaos, lack of communication, frustration and unexpected expenses use American Van Lines. I chose American Van Lines for my long distance move from Arizona to Florida based on their "customer service" reviews. I realize COVID has made moving very difficult but communication is key. Customer Service and Communication from American Van Lines was almost non-existent, making for an extremely stressful move. They SELDOM answer their phone, even the customer service line. You have to leave a message in hopes they will call back. The only other call initiated by them was when they wanted payment - 2 calls at same time from them. You can never talk with a "manager". They just send you to another rep.

When I booked and paid my deposit to secure the dates, I told the booking agent my "drop dead had to be out date" as my house was sold. He gave me a 3 day window, promising they NEVER miss their window. They did call, as promised, about 3 days prior to get an updated inventory list and was told they would call about 24 hours prior to pick up to confirm the time. Here is where it goes wrong:

Having NOT heard from them, I started calling the first day at 845am - FINALLY talking with someone 3 hours later - when she casually informs me that "you are not scheduled to be picked up until the 21st" - the day AFTER the 3 day window! Did they not look at the Binding Estimate to see they missed the pickup window??? Why would they not call me immediately to inform me they were running late??? I FINALLY got a call back Fri evening to say it has now been pushed back to Wed - 3 days late now. Again, I explained my situation and their response was, "I am sorry. Don't you have someone that can be there?" There is a lot that goes on with a long distance move and the owner should be there overseeing it, not a friend.

The excuse was that the driver needed to get a "piece of paper" signed. (The piece of paper was signed on Friday, yet there was still a 4 day delay. On Monday she promised she would call me back to confirm the new pick up date and discuss compensation. She did - the new pick up date was now THURSDAY (4 days late) and compensation is, wait hold on, $30/day! I told her I also had the expense of a hotel room for 5 nights for the person who was going to meet the movers, since the house was packed up.

The driver was kind and courteous and caught in the middle, as was my friend who oversaw the move. For a long distance move it is best to have the owner there. I was told I could keep my clothes in the dressers and they would shrink wrap it to move. Much to my surprise, my clothes were packed into boxes (more charges). Again, I was not there to see what was happening. In summary, be prepared to be inconvenienced and aggravated. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR INVOICE - and all the packing charges. The bid is written one way and the invoice is written another - very confusing.

As for the "compensation" I should have received $120 for being 4 days late plus the hotel expense of $650 for 5 hotel nights. The total compensation should have been $770 but They have a cap of $500. So I GOT TO PAY an extra $270 for THEIR MISTAKE. They know they have you over a barrel so they don't truly care about customer service. American Van Lines is a very unprofessional company. Look for another moving company with a similar name.

Also, they were extremely respectful and thoughtful. They're the best movers I ever had. I'm in the process of moving from Chicago to Florida and I'm going to have to do another move. We had a full load as far as packing, loading, bringing our goods down, and unpacking and our driver, Joey, was outstanding. He did everything in a timely fashion. We got a little jammed up for time because of a stubborn person that was buying our home and he made it happen. It was great. Then, when we got down here, he did more work than the fellows that they hired to help him. The crew left at 5 o'clock and they left him alone. He was here working till about 8 o'clock at night. So, there was an extra charge for being on the second floor. Other than that, they were great. It was a one-bedroom apartment and then it was 25 boxes. A bed, a dining room table, a couch, a television, computer desk. They picked the stuff up on Sunday and they had it to my son by Thursday. It was wonderful. We needed two trucks but American Van Lines only sent one. So, we had to wait a couple of days to get the next truck to come and collect the rest of the stuff. They answered the phone, and you could talk to a real person. But in the big picture of things, they should have sent two trucks out. They would send one of those big ones, but they could not fit it in the driveway so they decided on sending two. But when they went to do that, they just sent one. The initial truck driver was on the phone, and we were on the phone all day, and had to go back and forth. Then the first truck driver said, "Well, if you need your stuff there, then we have another person that can drive a U-Haul for you, but there are no U-hauls available." It was a Saturday. So, it was a different dispatcher that we were talking to.

Finally, they said, "Oh, they agreed to send another truck." That was after the first truck was filled up. It was an awkward situation. And then, the price they quoted was less, but we wanted to know if that was the right quote. Everything was accounted for for initial inventory, but they didn't send two trucks so it put us in a dilemma. It delayed our move for a couple of days. Also, a few things are missing.

I thought I was supposed to know three days before. It was very stressful. Then once the stuff was en route, I was told by the consultant that the driver that picked up my stuff would be the driver driving up to North Carolina and would be able to tell me when it’d be arriving. Days went by, I called, and then they told me the truck was broken down. So, there was a lot of disconnect in when my stuff would arrive, and it was just days of not even having a date, so I didn't know if I should rent something or stay in a hotel. That was a little frustrating. There could be some improvement with giving people a better idea of when their items will arrive. Overall, I was really happy and I'd use AVL again. Is everything good?" But I didn't even see until I started putting stuff out that the marble on one of our big hutches was cracked. I had signed the paperwork and there was nothing I could do. It is what it is. It was kind of a rushed process to go and check everything that they've unwrapped or packed. I didn't like that everything's got to be signed on the spot. There are things that you don't see right away. The guys that came to the house were great. I understand things can move. My only feedback is a bit more preparation on the front side to eliminate damage on the back side.

When we moved from the UK about 20 years ago here, not a single thing got broken. Wine glasses were not broken. You fully expect on an international move for there to be some damage. So, I was a little upset that the marble's broken when we used American Van Lines. But the company was great. As for homeowners, you should just make sure to watch things happening without getting in the movers way. I'm not blaming them. Things happen. They were caring, considerate and very courteous.

We had somebody come out to the house three times before we moved. We were packing all of our own things, but he supplied the boxes so he was very well aware of everything that we were doing along the way. He was the one that determined everything. When the movers came and took our stuff, they said we had a hundred extra boxes so they had to charge us more. But those were all the boxes that had been given to us by the person that came up with our price and we were never at any time told that the price would change based on the amount of boxes we had. It was the same amount of stuff and we even took some stuff off that we didn't take with us. For instance, he had quoted a motocross bike and we brought that ourselves because we were told that if there was a huge weight difference, there could be something.

Then, we got out to this end and they had our stuff at that point. Halfway between when they left and when they got here, the lady called and told us that there seemed to be some discrepancy about the amount of pieces, but it would only cost about $400 more. She said she was not even sure they were going to charge it. Then, she called again and said that she still didn't have that worked out. We were also told that it looked like we were going to get our stuff that weekend. On Friday, she called again and said that they were still on schedule and that our stuff would arrive on Monday. But Monday is not the weekend.

She also said the price was going to be $900 more. But she previously said that the additional charge would only be 400. Aside from that, their rep said that he overquoted us so we wouldn't have to pay more and that if anything, it would be less and we were going to be happy. Then, the lady on the phone said that if I paid right then, she'd discount it to 600. At the time, I was out shopping and I couldn't even talk to her because I wasn't in a place where I could. So, I was a little frustrated by all that. Then, I couldn't get ahold of her on Saturday and I had to be paid for Monday in order for them to deliver our stuff. I finally got ahold of her Monday morning and I paid the price she gave me even though I really didn't feel like I should have.

Then, the movers were supposed to be here between 9:00 and 11:00 and finally our driver showed up at about 4:30 with only one other person. He was very polite but he just said that no one else wanted to work when they got here so it was just the two of them. My husband ended up getting a good portion of the stuff off. We have a four-bedroom house and it's a lot of stuff. They stayed until 10 o'clock, which was very nice of them, but then they had to leave then they came back the next morning at about 7:00 or 8:00. They were still here at almost 6:00 that night because it was just the two of them again. We have heavy stuff and they were trying to figure it out. But it was too much on them and I just wanted to get them out of here at that point. They were rushing to get the furniture together as they obviously wanted to get out of here too because if they were not, they were not making money on the next drop.

So, some of our furniture weren't put together right. My husband came home that night and took apart our bed because they just put stuff back in the beds where the things had been stripped. The screws had been stripped so we went and bought new ones. He got it all fixed now, but it was not a stellar job on the part of American Van Lines. Our move from Virginia to Ark was subcontracted out from American Van Lines to Boost Express Van Lines out of Brooklyn, NY. All were Ukrainians many of whom were rude and rushed. Almost every box marked "Fragile' had broken glassware. Even an old butter churn they packed was broken in several pieces. Small pieces of furniture were broken. A rocking chair and a tv console worth several hundred dollars never showed up. Boxes of clothes on hangers were crushed and even plastic tubs were smushed and broken. Heavy boxes were placed on top of lightweight items.

Our movers drove all day and did not finish unloading until 1 am. Then they were to drive all night to Dallas so their unloading was extremely rushed. The movers did not communicate important information. I rented a Uhaul trailer to carry bagged bedding and other lightweight things after the movers arrived to pack and told me I would have to pay for numerous boxes to put all the lightweight bags in. I did not buy additional insurance because I knew American Van Lines had been around a long time and I thought they were a good company. I applied for the standard reimbursement for damaged and lost goods but I refused to accept their payment because it was hush money. I had to agree not to share any negative information about our move with social media or anyone else. I share this in the hopes that others will think twice before they use American Van Lines.

The internet is full of horror stories about moving companies, so I was nervous going into this, but I was very pleased with how it turned out. American Van Lines delivered what they promised—a quality move by courteous professionals. And they arrived at the destination very quickly (3 days), even though it was four states away and they had to battle snow and ice. None of our belongings were damaged, and the driver kept me updated throughout the process. I would use this company again!

Horrible company. Contracts are a mess – all digital (until you make a claim, then they mail a letter and contract as described below), the representatives insist they can’t alter even obvious errors. Little notice before pick-up, no notice before delivery at all (got a phone call in Target, so couldn't tape paper on the stairs or otherwise prepare). Their movers broke/scratched/otherwise damaged many things, then one of them asked for my number and called and texted me repeatedly while I tried to unpack. (When I texted him a suggestion that he find someone else, he immediately called me to insist that he wasn’t interested in me.)

Now (over half a year later), they won't honor the claim. They say the contract had to be signed within thirty days. However, they say they sent it in December, but it never arrived. I had to call them to ask what was going on. When they finally got the contract to me, it still had December’s date, so they tried to argue that I hadn’t signed within the required period. (Note: They are the ones who required a thirty-day turnaround, so they could waive that requirement.)

Moreover, their contract contained a blatantly illegal requirement that I delete or revise all negative reviews and never say anything bad about them. (The relevant law is the Consumer Review Fairness Act.) I hadn't actually made any, as I like to give companies a chance to fix their mistakes. AVL whiffed on that one. Overall, they make it incredibly difficult for people to do business with them. People who are moving do get pushed into difficult situations, but at least try to avoid getting pushed into working with AVL.

The experience with American Van Lines was terrible. I originally had a scheduled date then I was called and asked if they could come three days earlier. I told them, “Yes, as long as I can still have it delivered at a reasonable time.” They guaranteed me that if they picked up on a Friday, we would have it by Tuesday. I never heard anything again from them. I kept trying to call and was told that the driver got sick.

Ultimately, I found out three weeks after the fact that they had unloaded our stuff, put it in a warehouse in another state then reloaded it again. They were overwhelmed. We did end up with the same driver that we started with and he was told that he had to go do another job. The day he picked up the stuff, he called and asked if he could come a day later then I never heard from him again. After he didn't show up when he was supposed to, I texted him, “Where's our stuff? What's going on?” He didn't reply. When he did finally deliver our stuff to us, he said, “I knew there was a problem, that you didn't know what was going on when you texted me. I called corporate immediately and told them they better fix it.”

The people that did the move were great on both ends, picking it up and delivering it. The problem part was in the office level. Nobody knew what the other person was doing. There was no communication between the driver, the dispatcher and the person who was supposed to be my consultant in the office. They were supposed to have been delivered August the 3rd but they were delivered September. We had a couple of chairs and an air mattress that we slept on, which wasn't good. We barely survived but it was not fun.

But she said she couldn't do anything about it and that was the way it was. Then it was interesting in the beginning when they asked to itemize what I was going to be needing to move, and I had done so. But then when they came, they didn't anticipate as many things as I had wanted them to move. I thought I communicated that, but maybe I didn't communicate it well. My bill went up by almost 50% from what I originally contracted with them. But in all fairness to them, they did a good job. The drivers at both ends were very nice. The people that were assisting them were also very polite. They were very efficient and they delivered everything with very little breakage. I was very satisfied with the move.

Their estimate was really spot-on. Then the crew showed up, dug right in, and got all the stuff into one truck, which was amazing. Then the next day, we met them at the new house and they unloaded everything. Overall, they were very easygoing and took changes in stride. We had an issue with tracking but the mover offered to pay for that, which was great. Also, I was really happy with the fact that when my items were picked up, they were delivered within a few days and throughout the process, I was kept well informed. And the estimate was very accurate. We added on a little bit at the end because there was a little bit of a walk from the drop-off point to my actual unit. It was understandable and I was really happy with knowing that I wasn't hit with a big increase.

The lady guided me through the whole process and explained the options. She listened and knew what I needed based on my explanation of what I was trying to get done.

The moving crew who handled the possessions was great. Everything got here safely and we didn't have anything damaged. The guys arrived on time to pack up the house and they were efficient. They got down here and unpacked everything. They were super nice to work with and they even let me direct where I wanted furniture and other things placed. So that was all an excellent experience. American Van Lines is the worst ever. Their communications were horrible. I was assigned a moving coordinator and I talked to her once or twice, then I could never ever get ahold of her again. She wouldn't return my phone calls. I had to go through the customer service people who had to go I don't know where. I kept telling them that I had to be out of my house by the 25th of September, a Friday, because I was closing. They wouldn't respond and they kept saying, "We'll try," and, "We can't find a van," and, "We'll try."

Finally, I called them on the Monday before and they had given me a three-day window of Wednesday through Friday. I also called them on Monday and I got ahold of somebody in customer service or in logistics. I asked if they have a better moving date 'cause I was trying to schedule hotels and things like that. They said they will call us 24 hours or the day before they come. The tone of the voice was very chastising in "We will call you". I said okay. Wednesday morning, they showed up at 7:45. Half of us were in bed and we were all in our jammies. We assumed on Tuesday night that we could sleep in 'cause they were obviously not coming the next day since they never called. Well, they showed up.

I also had the same problem on the other side. They told me that I'm on the list for the 27th of November. Everybody's ready on the 27th and then they said that they'd be coming on Saturday instead, which would have been the 29th. Then, I got another one saying they would not come 'til December 1st. I called and said that they gave me this window, but Thanksgiving was in the middle of that window. I asked them to help me out. So, I'm on the list for the day before Thanksgiving. Then I got something saying they're coming the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and then I got something saying they're coming that Monday. How can anybody plan?

A number of things were also broken. I have a cable that has a slight decorative back edge like a washstand, an antique. They packed something on top of it. They didn't take my coffee table apart which was a circular one with a stand. When I got it, they put something on top of that and it was cracked, and the circular part was knocked off the stand. The next thing was the guys had taken apart the storage racks in my garage on the way there. Loading out, that was fine, but when I got back, I kept saying repeatedly to put those together. They were getting ready to leave and they never did what I told them. It was ridiculous. I had shelves at almost a 45-degree angle. They didn't know how to do it. They also weren't prepared for it as they didn't have the tools for it. I was doing things inside so I couldn't go out there. I could have told them exactly what to do if I'd known they needed help.

I had gotten five estimates from different people and American Van Lines was a couple $1,000 less than others. But it was not a particularly good experience. Getting things set up was arduous and a long, labored process. We're in the middle of COVID and Brian was constantly drawn away for different things. It was dozens of hours of planning on the phone.

When they arrived on a Friday, there was confusion. They thought they were three days early. They were supposed to set up a shuttle truck ahead of time and they never did that, so they asked me where they could rent one. Then it was known that we were on a busy highway and they had to find an alternate place to put the main van and they didn't have that arranged ahead of time, so there was stress about that. Also, they were supposed to wait until the last day to pack up our bedroom as I didn't want them in there because of the COVID. They packed half of our bedroom the day before, so we had to be in our bedroom where they had been, where I didn't feel safe.

They broke my chair. Things were broken off of the back of the furniture. Brian said he was going to come over and fix my chair after a month of doing all this planning. I'm in Sarasota and his office is in Boca Raton. It's four hours away and he forgot that I was on the other side of the state. I had to fix that chair myself. Then stained glass lamps and big windows were left behind. It was a total mess. I had to call the Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau, and then they finally called them. Ultimately, I got the things that were left behind three months later. They also forgot the ladder. They bought me one and had it delivered.

They were well-intentioned, pleasant, and nice enough. They did stick to the price that we agreed on. Brian tried, but the problem was their intercommunication between departments was not particularly good. They were also disorganized. We had a complicated move and they only sent two people out to do it. There should have been more people. They might be okay for a small move. But then, too many things fell through the cracks. I would not recommend them.

Then the quote was about $200 lower originally because I had to modify how much they were going to move. I had to up the amount of boxes. We also didn't take into account that there were three flights of stairs. That was the main price differential. Overall, it went great. It actually got picked up and delivered later than when it was supposed to and it was a little bit of a hassle getting it delivered to us. Luckily, we are living at my mother's house who passed away. Our driver that brought our stuff was excellent.

We're still gonna use them. We got approved for a different apartment and we're trying to finalize when we actually get to our final move-in date. The only thing we're worried about when we move this time is that when we have it delivered when we get there, we can't have it be delivered two weeks after because we're gonna have nothing. I hired American Van Lines after extensive research and great reviews! If I could give them zero stars I would. They provide great service upfront during the sales/quote process. They give you a very low quote to beat out other competitors and once you're locked in through your deposit things go downhill from there. Please be aware of some things they DO NOT tell you. You have 7 days immediately prior to your delivery date to cancel with them. You will receive a pick-up/load window of 2 weeks. They do not tell you exactly when movers will arrive to pick up your items. They will take approximately 6 hours to load a 2/3 bedroom home (the driver does not assist the movers).

Inquire upfront about what type of truck your items will be transported in and even then you may not get an honest answer. I was told my truck would arrive on a Friday, they cancelled Friday due to a "delay" and came Saturday. At that time the driver told me there was a 14 day delivery window of when I would receive my items as he had numerous other deliveries ahead of mine. Had I known or been told a semi would arrive I would have known it would not be a direct delivery. Instead the move coordinator Jelean lied and told me a 26' box truck would be arriving and delivering my items to my new home.

Once you are given the 14 day delivery window be prepared to receive your items on that very last day of the window. This company was very unprofessional, very dishonest and misleading and caused more stress to an already stressful 1200+ mile move. I was also warned by the movers during the pickup to make sure to tip the movers during the deliver or they will damage walls, carpet, etc. The drivers and movers are contracted by American Van Lines and do not work directly for them. Best of luck on all your moves and be sure to consider other moving companies that have quality customer service and stand behind their word.

American Van Lines came highly recommended. I hired them to move me from Denver, CO to Dallas, TX. Due to Covid-19 I had to take a video of each room in my house. Everything seemed fine and they quoted me around $6500. When moving day finally arrived they were two days late. Blamed the previous customer and weather for being late.

When the movers finally showed up they took a brief look at my stuff and said that there were many items that they didn't have on their inventory. Said that all items not listed would be charged @ .99 cents a pound. Of course they had already started loading my stuff. When they finally arrived in Dallas they told me that they wouldn't release any of my things until I paid the balance of the additional cost at over $13,000.00. Be very careful doing business with this company!! I've been trying to reach a resolution with what went wrong and why they overcharged me. It's been over a month and I just keep getting the runaround.

When I spoke to my sales person Harold ** I was very happy to hear his assurance that my move would be done smoothly, I’d had a bad experience with a prior move involving cash paid labor and sub contracted companies so I wanted to be sure I was signing up with a firm that was a direct carrier through and through. This was promised by Harold.

I booked the move well in advance and gave my landlord notice. 1 day before my promised move date and 3 days before my lease ended I received a call from dispatch to let me know my driver had encountered a delay. When I asked for a new window I was told they didn’t have one, the delay was indefinite. If I wanted to move in my window I would need to have my move done by another company.

I called Harold and was upset as he had promised that American Van Lines would handle the move. He seemed confused and said I’d booked well in advance but he couldn’t see my file any longer so I needed to call customer service. Customer service reiterated that if I wanted to move in time I would need to use their agents and again assured me that they would be professional movers. I agreed to this because of the time crunch and was assured that everyone handling my move would be from a professional moving company. The day before my move I received notice from my realtor that we may not close on time. I called Harold and asked if it would be possible to add storage and if not needed I could cancel. Harold assured me that I could and to call him if needed.

On the day of the move two enterprise rental trucks came to my house from Moving For Less, LLC out of LA. They had paperwork from American Van Lines but refused to load the shipment unless I signed a new estimate. My original binding estimate with storage was approximately $15k and the new unbinding estimate was $21k. He assured me this was the worst case. I tried to contact American Van Lines multiple times that day but was unable to reach them. As my lease was up and I needed to move I had to sign the paperwork so they could move forward. The packing was uneventful with the exception of the movers urinating in my bathroom trash basket. They did a good job otherwise and managed to pack up everything, including perishable food and garbage (discovered during unpacking).

I found out the next day that the closing would occur only a few days late so I would not need storage. I called Harold the next business day and again he said he did not have access to my file, I would need to call customer service but it should be no problem. I called customer service and left a message. I received a call back from customer service the next day, Sonya was my customer service manager and let me know she would have to speak with operations to see if I could remove storage. She called back and said that it was already in storage so they could not remove the option.

I also explained to Sonya the issue with the original estimate being revoked at the time of loading despite multiple reviews with Harold and the QA department. Sonya carried back and offered a $600 adjustment to the $6000 additional charge. I gave her a rebuttal of $17000 which I thought was fair. She said she would take that back to management and let me know. I never heard from Sonya again despite multiple calls, voicemails and emails.

I was getting worried about my goods due to lack of contact and found the number of Move for Less, LLC. They were helpful in the phone and assured me that my goods were stored safely and would be delivered within the 21 day window. I was out of town on a family emergency when I received a text that the movers would arrive at 11am the following day, from a sub contractor that Moving for Less, LLC had hired. This was just 15 hours notice when I had been asking for a delivery window for weeks. Luckily my flight was just a few hours later so I informed the carrier.

At 11am the day of the move two cars parked outside of my house, my sons who were home texted me that some people were parked in front of my house. When I got there I asked them if they were there for the move and they confirmed. I asked them what moving company they worked for and they told me “lots of companies, anyone so pays is”. They had no information and we’re not employees. When the carrier showed up he was driving a pickup truck with a gooseneck trailer. No usdot number or anything. When asked for more information he gave me a generic business card with a moving cooperative. He demanded payment for the full amount of the previously revised estimate and if I didn’t pay would put the items in storage again. I agreed to pay.

The movers unloaded and setup 2 of the four beds. They were unable to setup the other 2 despite this service being part of the move. In addition I observed the carrier paying the two individuals parked outside of my house in cash. I’m currently unpacking and am disappointed in the amount of damage done to my goods and trash packed such as pizza crust, napkins, empty tape spools, etc. I was really hoping for a great experience with American Van Lines based on their reviews and am really sad that I did not have an experience at all similar to the reviews I read. I will continue trying to contact them to see if we can resolve the issues and hope to update this in the future.

Getting signed up with American Van Lines and finding how much everything was gonna cost went very well and it was accurate. The guy that signed us up was fine but then, we ended up having three coordinators. We got an email saying telling us the name of the concierge if we'd have any questions. But that was where things went off the rails. We emailed and we never got any response. So we called customer service and they said that the guy was sick. So there was somebody else who got back to us but the information wasn't accurate.

Maybe, we just didn't clearly understand how very last minute it was gonna be about when we were gonna find out when the movers were both coming and when they were gonna be getting to us in Florida. The communication was that they would let us know by the end of the day but nobody ever called. We had to follow up. The other thing that was really weird was we paid in full before our furniture ever got delivered. So the second payment should not have been charged to us until we actually received our furniture in case there was a problem. But the driver who hauled off our furniture and delivered it was outstanding. So it was all of this central business customer service function that was shady.

The damage must have occurred during the move or when they lifted either onto or off the truck. I have a few things that are in storage and I haven't opened yet. I didn't want a big surprise that it was gonna cost me a lot more than what they estimated. It was a surprise that estimations were really close to what they had said it was gonna be. So, I was happy with that. The estimator was really nice and worked with me really good. I had a lot of stuff and the experience went well. The only surprise I got was that they said that they were gonna come pick up between a certain timeframe, but I never got a call as exactly when it was until the guy showed up one morning at my front door. It was in the timeframe they said they were gonna come, but I didn't get a notification that it was a certain day and time. But we were ready and we made it work.

I did an internet search for American Van Lines. I watched the YouTube videos that they have. I decided to go ahead and use them when I moved from Las Vegas to North Carolina. I didn't have any problems at all, except when I got to North Carolina, a hurricane was coming. They delivered my furniture a day before the hurricane would hit. I was impressed with that. But I was having a problem when I first came back here, with getting coordinated to get my furniture. I could understand that because of COVID-19, it took about a month to get my furniture here. As far as the coordinator went, she was excellent. The people I spoke to were excellent too. They got back with me. I had to call a couple of times because I didn't hear anything. But once I spoke to them, they explained to me what was going on. They all did an excellent job.

The crew that moved me from Las Vegas to North Carolina did an excellent job. They inventoried my stuff. They went through with me with everything. Then the offloading went well. The crew that moved me from North Carolina back here to Las Vegas was excellent too. They wrapped up everything that I needed to be wrapped up. They protected everything that needed to be protected. They covered the carpeted floor. They put on their mask too. When I moved into this apartment, it's a wooden floor and they did the exact same thing. They were very nice people to talk to. If you want to make sure that all your possessions are going to be in safe hands, that they're going to be stored properly and that you're going to get everything that you sent for moving, then I would recommend American Van Lines.

We chose American Van Lines after reading multiple positive online reviews. The sales lady was wonderful as were the movers who came to move us. Everything that left our house was wrapped and carefully packed. We needed to store our furniture for one month and were told that storage would occur at their Florida facility.

Our furniture was delivered without any of the padding and wrapping that had been there when it left our home. The mattresses no longer had the plastic bags on them. Our furniture had been stored in three U-Haul commercial warehouses. (We have a video of our furniture stacked on top of itself in these warehouses. The delivery movers took the video and called their supervisor to alert them to the situation.) Most of our damage was from the furniture being dragged across concrete floors. Our sofa had boot prints on the cushions - someone just walked over them - it had been wrapped when it left our house.

Our mattress has black marks from being dragged across the dirty floor. There are gouges on the tops of our bedroom furniture and our expensive entertainment center has large gouges on the sides. We paid extra for our piano to be moved but the movers were unable to get it in our house. The piano bench is marred. An antique chair had its arm broken in half as if something very heavy had been dropped on it.

They told us that we had the lowest level of insurance and that is all they would reimburse. I understand that - that was a mistake we made. $16,000 is a lot to pay for a move when the company doesn't hold up their end of the contract to take great care with your belongings. It started out so well. It isn't about normal damage - it is about not upholding their end of the bargain. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! If you have no choice pay for the best insurance - what a mistake. Be certain to take pictures of your furniture as it is loaded onto the truck so that you have proof of how it left your house. It may not be returned in the same condition.

DO NOT USE! AVL has been a nightmare from the start. They pay for reviews, and I have evidence of them paying to remove bad reviews. TRUST ME! I will take the time to explain my entire story and provide evidence of their scam to anyone who wants to use them. First they showed great customer service (calling many times, answering the phone and emails) and offer a binding quote WITHOUT a visual appraisal. We asked, they said it was not needed and we went through our entire home and boxes. They assured us that going through the rooms, and describing the furniture will be accurate. They then asked for 50% deposit which was $2500. During our initial discussions, we indicated that we ABSOLUTELY COULD accommodate an 18 wheeler; however, they still added in a shuttle charged of over 1k. It was a hidden fee and never explained to us.

They called (one day before) to confirm the day and time (prior to they had a 3 day window) and arrived on moving day with a smaller truck than agreed upon based on the estimate. We have a 2800 sq. 4 bedroom house, and they brought a very small truck. Not only was the truck a Ryder rented truck, it was half full with someone else's belongings. To make matters worse, it wasn't AVL, it was 2 men from a different company called Quality Relocation. They subcontracted us out to a company that has terrible reviews. We never would have agreed to hire this company!! AVL confirms on their website they do not subcontract. WHY WOULD WE PAY A DEPOSIT TO A COMPANY THAT DID NOT DO THE MOVE? WHY WOULD WE OWE THEM MONEY?

When we asked for another truck, American van lines said they could not help, we needed to go through this random third party; meanwhile they still have our deposit. The individual from the third party indicated we could not get another truck for another 4 days. We had to rent a storage space In Boston for the remaining items left at the house that did not fit on the small/half filled truck they arrived in. We asked AVL for a hold on our items (for one week) being delivered and although they said they could accommodate they did not (probably because they subcontracted us out a completely different company.) We got a call saying our items would be delivered to South Carolina within 48 hours and it would cost an additional $4300 for the delivery. They insisted we pay the day before it arrived. This was never agreed upon.

So now we had to hire another storage facility until we were able to arrive. We had to scramble to find one on a weekend since they were delivering on a Sunday. How could we be in two places at once? They were delivering our first truck in SC on Sunday morning, and picking up our second truck of items in Boston at the same time and on the same day (Sunday morning.) The $4300 price for the first truck did NOT include the second truck. We tried to contact American Van Lines multiple times by email and phone with no answer or response. We have evidence and proof that they did not answer our calls or email in which we literally asked "are we being scammed?" At this point we have paid AVL $2500 of the binding contract estimate, as well as $4300 to the third party who threatened to charge us 1k a DAY if we did not pay immediately. We have two small kids and I'm pregnant and we had no choice.

When we finally got our belongings out of storage, we saw that they lost our bedframe, several other items and damaged our furniture. They handed over the weight ticket over a week after repeated requests and the ticket is from 2 very different locations - and was the weight of the ENTIRE truck (with other people's belongings.) It had no truck number, or lading number. They stated that our items weighed 7600lbs ON ONE TRUCK but we fit everything onto a small UHAUL truck we had to rent to take our stuff from the storage facility in SC to our new home. They insisted we had far more boxes and items than agreed upon but this was clearly part of the scam. They tagged random pillows, a shoebox.

Quality Relocations picks up the second half of our stuff on Sept 27th (4 days after the original pick up date) again in an unmarked RYDER truck and we did not get our belongings until October 19th. We called AVL several times and they kept telling us to call back, there was a problem with the truck and the delivery, and they cannot locate the truck. Finally, we spoke to someone who said the items were "in Maryland." We offered to go get them ourselves (again we have 2 small children and had none of our stuff.) They refused to help us, compensate us or give us answers. They kept saying it was our fault for having more stuff than we said we had, and that it was a "ripple" effect. When the second truck arrived, almost 3 weeks later, Quality Relocation demanded $3500 MORE. So now, a quote of $4800 has turned into $10,200. DO NOT USE!!!

    AVL worked to resolve issues.

    Original Review: Nov. 13, 2020

Avoid at all costs. I hoped it wouldn't come to this, but I am writing a complaint of American Van Lines, which I contracted to complete my long-distance move from Walnut Creek, CA to Bloomington, IN. The pack/load date was 10/9/2020, with the delivery window being 10/12/2020 to 10/28/2020. This is for job # **. While packing went generally smooth, none of the packers wore masks. It should also be noted that this moved ended up being contracted to a third party, Move for Less.

When I first received an estimate from American Van Lines, since they claim they are not a broker, I asked if there was a chance that it could happen. The estimator assured me that only in very rare cases where an AVL van was not available would a third party, approved contractor (that "upholds the values of AVL") would be used. A couple of days before my load date, I was contacted and informed that Move for Less would be completing my move. After researching this company, I knew it was going to be rough. I could cancel and lose my deposit, but this was 2 days before my move!

It has been all downhill ever since. I could barely get updates from the representative, and when I did, they would just say they needed to get ahold of dispatch first and that they would call back in a week (why didn't they call dispatch before they called me? I later would find out it's because the truck hadn't, and still hasn't, left California). As the end of the delivery window neared, I attempted communication nearly every day with AVL. Finally, the day before the end of my delivery window, I was got ahold of the supervisor of my moving coordinator, only for her to inform that there was an issue with the truck and that it was still in California. This was a surprise to me as they had had my belongings for about 3 weeks now, so any truck issue would have plenty of time to be resolved. The supervisor, Tequela **, said that the truck should leave the coming weekend and be there later the following week.

Fast forward to today, November 13th. As far as I know, my belongings are still in California. AVL promised an update today but I have not heard from them. One common practice is for them to call but then never leave a voicemail or email me as follow-up. It seems as if they are avoiding leaving a written or recorded record of anything discussed. The other day, the moving coordination accidentally included an email thread in her response to my inquiry about the status of my move. This thread showed the back and forth between AVL and Move for Less, talking about various delays with all Move for Less jobs. This is not a single truck issue, this a widespread issue with the third party they are trying to hide.

Following this email, she immediately called me and said to not worry about that thread and that it wasn't about my move. I disagree, since every email in that thread had in the subject line, my last name, job number, and "CA to IN". When I pointed this out, I got no response. I have attempted everything in terms of getting in contact with this company to get updates on my move. I am now 3 weeks into a new job with no belongings and have incurred significant expenses due to having to pay rent to have a furnished place to say for myself, significant other, and our two dogs. AVL has stated there will be some compensation due to missing the delivery window, however, I asked for the document outlining this policy and no one will send it to me or claims "they don't have access to it".

This move has been a terrible experience, the worst I've had and I've had some mediocre moving experiences before. Nothing like this though. It was a two part move, and about half of the items picked up almost 7 weeks ago still have not arrived. They are well beyond their promised delivery date, which has kept moving as time went by after they were picked up.

And for both moves, when they showed up the price went up 30-50%. We even submitted video of absolutely everything for the second move, using their app sent to us, and the price still went up around 30% due to 'an incomplete inventory'. When I discussed with them that they could see absolutely everything in the videos so the inventory should be complete, they basically said to agree to the change or they wouldn't load things up. Pretty tough to cancel and find another mover on short notice. A very dishonest business practice in my opinion, the classic bait-and-switch that I had read in reviews that this company wasn't supposed to do. The workers and people I have dealt with have all been pleasant, the problems are the bait and switch and the extreme timeframe for delivery. Absolutely look elsewhere for a mover.

BUYER BEWARE!!!! I wish zero stars was an option. First off, we booked a move with a 3 day window for them to pick up. They said the 3 day window was needed just in case there were any snags along the way, they could be addressed and still pick up our things on time. Well the day before the last day of their window they called and said they "overfilled our truck and can't fit us in anymore." We told them we had booked our flights and turned in our notice with our landlord and we had to be out. Our representative (at that time), Leslie, said "with moving there are no guarantees." With no apology of the massive inconvenience, she informed us that our new pickup window would be the following 3 days. However, they had no more trucks available and would have to outsource us to another company called Move for Less.

When the truck finally arrived the move for less team was kind and efficient. I wish this was the company we had booked with. Once they took our stuff to the warehouse it was back in American Van lines' hands. It has been over 2 weeks. The last day of our delivery window is November 6th. (3 days from now). We have been calling for days trying to find out an estimate or where our stuff is. We kept being sent to voicemail when the customer service agent said they were "checking."

We finally got a call back today after leaving 10 messages. They have now informed us that our stuff is still in the warehouse that it was moved to 2 weeks ago. They have no truck and no plan to move our things. They can't even give us a rough estimate. They are literally holding all of our possessions hostage with no delivery in sight. No refund offered, no solution offered. This is the biggest scam of a company. I don't know what they are doing with our things or if they even know where our things are. Patrick and Bob did a great job. They could be commended for that.

I did five searches and every time, American Van Lines came up number one. So, I gave them a call and spoke with the representative that called me right back after I put in my little quote thing. They were very prompt, very responsive and they handled the move very well. We were closing on one house, but not closing on the others. Then, there was a holiday in-between. So, I needed some flexibility and they worked with me and gave me a few options on truck availability and type of truck that I could use and price points for each of those. I went with the one that suited me best. From the time I first called to the time we moved, it was about five weeks. So, I gave myself that much time at least to schedule the move. Then, I asked for a delay between dropping off the furniture so I could get the new house cleaned and they accommodated me.

We were moving to Florida. It was 95 to 105 degrees. I kept having to ask the guys every time they came in the house to put their masks on. My mom is 81 years old and high-risk and I didn't wanna take the possibility of having anything happen. So, my biggest downfall was their adherence. It was not so much the driver as it was the moving people that they hired at the pick-up and drop-off location.

I had used American Van Lines on a prior move. Recently, I used them. They fulfilled all of the boxes that I need to be checked. The only problem I've got is that, in the move from my home to my apartment, the movers dinged up my bed. I've been trying to get somebody to come out here to fix it. Without an appraisal, I'm not able to send anything to the company. So as far as the estimate on the move and anything else, they were okay. It wasn't the most ideal estimate. They have my stuff in storage that I'm paying a monthly fee on which is exorbitant. To me, $25 a month is ridiculous, but it is what it is.

We were able to come to a resolution to at least compensate me for the damaged TV. Thank you Jeremy for making it an easy online form submission instead of needing to see a notary and mail it in.

    Original Review: Sept. 29, 2020

Long story short: NEVER USE THIS MOVING COMPANY. I have moved at least 9 times in my life from province to province in Canada, to the US and now from state to state. Never in my life has my property been handled with so little care. I didn't pay over $3000 just to have some guys jostle my stuff around without care. I moved in April and they broke my $700 TV, $200 table, several dishes and glasses (for which the amount I didn't bother claiming as I couldn't figure out the price and threw away the shards immediately for safety instead of photographing). They also somehow misplaced half of my $130 desk and gave my $500 vacuum to another customer. We were able to find the vacuum at least, but consider the rest of the damages equaling to at least $1300. Also, I wouldn't complain about the dishes if the FRAGILE box wasn't stacked at the bottom of 2 other heavy boxes.

In order to contact them regarding these issues you have to play phone tag or be on hold for forever. I understand it's a pandemic, but this just adds to the overall frustration of my experience. Now they SAY they will TRY to be courteous and provide compensation within 90 days, but their maximum is 120 days. I submitted my claim May 4 and got a response in the mail dated September 3 only.

That actually comes out to slightly over 120 days. And the form says it must be received within 30 days of the date of the letter. But because the mail service has been so wonky I really only received it last week. And I was traveling for work, so didn't get to review it until today (Sept 29). I only get $250 back for my $1300 damages? And a short deadline to accept when I gave you 4 whole months to respond? Plus I need to get it notarized for some reason and probably express ship this mail at this point to reach my deadline, so after those fees I get probably $220 back in the end. What a scam. $250 isn't even enough to buy a new TV which is what I was most upset about. I have never been so unsatisfied with a service. Do yourself a favor and find literally anyone else to help you move.

American Van Lines had a guaranteed price and they had the best price. They were friendly both in Georgia and Texas. We had a few issues with the unload here, but overall it went well. Their coordinators were not responding always. There was a lack of communication once we got everything set up. Then when the move was gonna be a couple of days later, we didn't even find out until the day of the move. The originally scheduled date was there and we were waiting for the truck and nobody showed up. I ended up having to call the coordinator to find out what was going on. Found out that truck broke down and nobody let us know. That whole part of the move was a bit stressful.

There were a few things that got damaged. We didn't know whether it was them unloading the truck or when they were loading from our house. They were putting everything on their hand truck and then bouncing them down the stairs. So, for me, I would have put the hand trucks at the bottom of the stairs, carried everything down and then rolled that out. My wife's big mirror that was a jewelry stand and a few other things got completely ruined. But it wasn't enough to make a claim.

I recently had a cross country move completed by American Van Lines in the midst of COVID-19. I am ashamed to say that I didn’t have the most flexible mindset throughout the process and reacted to the delays like it was carelessness on their part, which was 100% the wrong assumption. Prior to booking with American Van Lines, I had been scammed by two moving broker companies consecutively (don’t ever go through a broker!!!) and was out of my mind, desperate to get out of Phoenix, AZ. My car had already been transported back to Louisville, KY, everything was closed, and Arizona was a COVID hotspot, it was complete hell. Throughout the entire process however, from beginning to end, Toni ** (my moving agent) was my saving grace through this entire experience.

Toni was the one to take my initial call, and she could tell from the tone in my voice that I was in a desperate situation to get a quality move completed very soon. Toni exuded passion, intelligence and knowledge about every aspect of a long-distance move and was able to empathize with where I was mentally, in the horrible limbo of relocating. Toni spent over an hour with me taking detailed inventory of all of my belongings and furniture and made it her ultimate mission to have a successful pick up and delivery. The pick-up went beautifully, everything was packed, wrapped and protected so professionally. Despite a couple of delays with the delivery date, all of my furniture and belongings were delivered in pristine condition.

Toni has been active in communication with me through this entire experience and is one of the reasons I would rebook with American Van Lines again. I hope that her company’s CEO and VP know what an outstanding moving agent they have on their team because she saved my sanity throughout this entire process. If you are looking for a moving company, American Van Lines should be your number 1 choice. Make sure to ask for Toni to be your agent!

We were just prepared for one day of packing and pick up as we only had 50 boxes. We didn't realize that American Van Lines wasn't gonna have a packing team that would help the movers the way the other company we were considering, Graebel, did. So, the movers were at my place until almost midnight and my husband had to leave. So, our neighbor had to come over and help them towards the end. American Van Lines' movers should know how many days they're gonna need to work.

I would expect someone to call me at least 48 hours before showing up. I called them on Wednesday afternoon and they told me that the only day they could pick up my stuff was the next day in the morning at 8:00 AM.

I called the rep and she said she was sorry. She tried to move things around but there was no other available date so I agreed. I paid a hefty price for that move and the thing is that I paid for them to pack everything essentially or help me to pack some things, at least. When the crew showed up, they said that the price didn't include packing. They would just show up and pick everything and that was it. I expected them to pack something and there were some books that I didn't pack. They just made maybe three boxes because I packed everything else.

    Original Review: Aug. 2, 2020

I do not like to give any negative reviews to any company but the service provided by American Van lines was pathetic. One star is only for James (he deserves all 5 stars) who was extremely professional and kind. Rest, everyone, including the supervisor Sam (Samuel P.) was not helpful at all. 1. My move was supposed to be serviced by American Van Lines, however, it was given to a third party. They were so persistent on the fact that they will be the carriers and not brokers, but in the end that's what happened. 2. I was contacted by Emmaelisa **. Or I should say threatened that I better agree to a third party or can find another mover for my move. This is 2 weeks before the move. I contacted James, who as always, helped me out and got me another advisor - Rebecca.

    3. Rebecca was nice to begin with, however, on multiple occasions she was extremely rude, unapologetic or blatantly abusive. 3a. She would never pick up my call. After the move when I tried to call her, I could never get in touch with her. 3b. She did not communicate the actual charges with the third party. My initial quote included shuttle service at both pick-up and delivery. But it was not used. She did not get that off my final bill for which I had to reach out to her supervisor. For this, she actually harassed me to the extent of literally telling the third party’s supervisor (I am forgetting his name but it starts with a ’T’) that 'I am NOT willing to pay any money'. 3c. She gave me a 3 hours notice at the time of delivery! The notice is supposed to be of 24 hours! When I said this is not acceptable, she just said 'either you take the delivery or pay for an extra night of storage'

    4. The movers (Taylor and Hanser) that actually came to the house were just plainly unprofessional, uncourteous, and rude. I want to tell you what all they did as well - 4a. To start of with they did not bring enough boxes. In fact, they did not even know that they had to pack the boxes which I believe was a mistake on probably Rebecca’s part. This definitely ticked them off. 4b. They asked us to start packing with them. They used our boxes as well and some of our other supplies as well. Remember, we had paid for the full packaging including all the material.

4c. I have a guitar which they moved. They picked it up from my house and few minutes later when I came downstairs, I saw them playing MY GUITAR. That should not be the case. They are not supposed to do that. 4d. They did not shrink wrap one of my mattresses completely. Even after asking them twice. In fact, they lied on my face and said they wrapped it when they did not. I discovered this when they delivered it and now I am going to have to throw that mattress away since it is dirty.

4e. They were supposed to send the weight of the truck in a couple of hours after leaving my house. They did not. They did not even pick up my calls or replied to my text messages when it was clearly visible they were getting those. When I called from a different number, they picked up the call and disconnected it as soon as they realized it was me. 4f. The packing done by these two guys was outright sub-par. So many items are damaged and cannot be used. 4g. At time of delivery, they put everything in my house and just sat in their truck ready to leave. They DID NOT re-assemble the furniture that they were supposed to and is a part of the contract. They demanded an extra $80 to do what they were supposed to do already. 4h. My contract mentioned an extra of $63/flight of stairs. My apartment has 2 extra flights of stairs. I was charged $145 instead of $126.

    5. When the original estimate was performed, they mentioned a weight of ~4400 lbs. I was told that if the weight increases at the time of the move, the price would increase as well. But the final weight came down to be around 3100 lbs. They did not decrease the price to reflect this weight. When I reported all this, their supervisor contacted me once. I replied back and have not heard from anyone for last 2 weeks. Extremely poor communication and services provided by American Van Lines and their third party who contracted the job.

The customer service manager of AVL reached out to me, and we resolved issues amicably.

    Original Review: July 24, 2020

I did a lot of research on movers, and wanted to go with a carrier, not a broker. I chose American Van Lines (AVL) because I thought they would be the carrier to pick up our stuff and transport it to our destination. When I spoke to AVL over the phone, they guaranteed that I would get an AVL "A-Team" to move my stuff, not a third party. Then, the day before my move from CA to PA, I received an email from AVL stating that they are using a third party mover (Move for Less) to move our stuff. AVL says their driver had issues and can't make my moving window. However, the next day, when I ask Move for Less when they knew about my move, they told me 15 days ago! So, obviously AVL never intended to actually move my stuff - they simply acted as a broker.

Move for Less provided me with a non-binding quote based on weight, and told me this is "the worst case scenario." During the actual move, Move for Less scratched two areas of wooden floors in our apartment. Later that week, AVL calls me and tells me the "weight" of my goods was more than 60% of the "worst case scenario" quote and tells me that I owe ~$2000 more than I intended to pay. Not believing this, I request a re-weigh and read the fine print in the contract. Upon receipt of our goods at our destination, there is a 110% Rule that says I pay a maximum 110% of the non-binding quote. So, I inform AVL that I am only going to pay 110% of the non-binding quote.

During transit, Move for Less passed my stuff to another third party called Delpro which actually transported our stuff from CA to PA. I receive a text from the Delpro driver the day before he is going to deliver our stuff. I am told that I do not pay Delpro and that I pay my balance owed to Move for Less. After mentioning the 110% Rule, Move for Less informs me that they are ok with this and I will not owe anything exceeding the dollar amount in accordance with the 110% Rule.

The morning of receiving our goods, the two person Delpro team weighed the truck before unloading, drove to our home and unloaded our stuff. The Delpro team was great with helping us keep track of box numbers to make sure all of our stuff arrived. However, some boxes were torn and two pieces of furniture were broken - my guess is the Move for Less team just threw the boxes and furniture inside the truck and didn't really care to carefully put items down when loading up the truck.

The Delpro team weighed the truck after unloading our stuff — and the weight of our goods was only slightly more than the “worst case scenario” — not ~60% more. So, Move for Less intentionally added weight onto the truck and tried to extract more money from us. In summary, even if you go with a carrier, they may act as a broker and pass you to other third parties. But, remember the 110% Rule so you don’t overpay and ask for a re-weigh on delivery day before unloading your stuff and after unloading your stuff to verify the weight of your stuff so you don’t overpay.

I loved American Van Lines. I knew they were a big company and I figured they would be good. However, they give you another company called Baker International that you could buy insurance from and I could never get in to buy extra insurance. They ask you for the job number, and I put it in, but maybe they figured I wasn't worth it. I only wanted $10,000 worth of insurance and maybe that's why I had a hard time buying the insurance. Anyway, that company is not user-friendly and that was a big thing. I was disappointed 'cause I would have bought insurance, even though my stuff was less than $10,000.

Other than the insurance, the whole experience was great and the American Van Lines employees are awesome. The first person I talked to when I called was Helen at American Van Lines, and her extension was **. Anytime I had anything to do with anything, I would call her. She was great and she was my favorite lady. I didn't wanna bring home that much and Helen told me to let them know two days before if I had anything extra. On the day of the pickup, the drivers called and said they were about three hours away. I didn't have a big load. I only had six boxes, and I wanted to add two more.

When I couldn't get ahold of Helen, I asked the drivers if I could add two more boxes. They told me not to worry about it and that whatever I had, they would take. They were so sweet. I had made changes as well. I gave away a massage table, so they weren't moving that. When they came to deliver my furniture (I have a big couch as well as a big Sleep Number bed), there was only one guy. Now, I don't know what happened, but he was the only one to unload it all and he never made one negative remark that he was by himself. My brother and I helped him do some things and I felt bad that he was by himself.

My sister and a lot of people have moved before, and the difference between my stuff and everybody else's stuff is that all of my stuff were really new. I had just bought all of my furniture ‘cause I wasn't expecting to move. My stuff was two months old, so they couldn't break anything ‘cause nothing was old. They were so gentle with everything. They wrapped everything and I didn't have a scuff mark on anything. That's the big difference. Some people move old crap, and their stuff breaks. That's no fault of the people though.

The delivery was a mixed bag. They were bringing two trucks down. One truck was rented from Penske and it broke so we got two-thirds of a delivery one day then two or three days later, we got the rest of the delivery in. We had a couple of things break. We lost a couple of glasses and a few things. Also, they lost seven out of eight of the barrel nuts that hold our bed together. That got interesting to track those down and have a bed to sleep in. There was also a six-foot ladder that just disappeared, and a level. We let AVL know about it. They also sent an online piece and I wrote all that on, but that's all of that. We didn't hear anything and the way things go these days, I didn't expect to. It was probably $200 worth of stuff total.

I researched 5 companies before selecting American Van Lines. I went with them because 1) the price was reasonable, 2) the timing was agreeing to do it when I needed, and 3) the estimator was very sharp and smart. I was impressed with that. However, the moving crew sucked. They were late and didn't give a damn about my boxes and furniture. All they cared about was hurrying as fast as they could do it. Everything was marked for one way but the boxes were packed upside down. I have broken lamps. I had things that were protected very well and every single thing has been screwed up. My furniture has been dented and scratched. I continue to unbox stuff with broken things every day and I get madder every day.

They were horrible. When they moved into my house here, they were even worse. All they wanted to do was unload the truck and get out that night. It's the worst experience I've ever had in my life and I'm more than very dissatisfied. I have nine months to do the claim and I'm still unpacking. I will have all my information and all my ducks in a row before I sue them and file this claim.

I preferred the way Ryan came in. He did his job and spoke with me about everything. My mother has a lot of glass tabletops and he was showing me how he was gonna package them so that made it a little bit more comfortable. They were excellent. There were three young men and an older gentleman. The two young men really did all the work and they worked their butts off. They did it very quickly. I was there the whole time pretty much watching everything. I didn't see them cutting any corners. They were very efficient and I was very happy with the job that they did.

Upfront, I can't review their moving service. I've just tried to deal with getting a quote. This company seems to have good reviews but it's been extremely difficult to get any consistent communication from them. It feels like they are just too busy to want any more business. They are using a robo answering system that calls you back and puts you on hold (13th in line) when you request a quote. When someone finally answered I got put on hold again to be transferred to someone that could actually give me a quote. I was then asked (by a recording) to leave my number and someone would call me back. We then started getting texts from Ashley (who it turns out is also a robo) saying something like, "If you still need help, when would be a good time to call?" We texted back "Now," but no one called back.

We then texted again, "Waiting for your call," but nothing. I finally went to LinkedIn to find the owner of the company and emailed him. He answered right away and I explained to him that I could not get through to his company. He said he would have someone get back with me within the hour if I still wanted a quote. I'd say about four hours later a rep (I'll use the name Johnny) contacted me and was going to send me a link to their video app but I never got it.

After several more emails to the manager (Jeremy) we figured out it had been sent to wrong email address (simple typo mistake) but then the link still didn't work. Back and forth on that again. Johnny gave me his direct number but I always got a recording and would have to email Jeremy to have him tell Johnny to get back with me. Johnny was always very helpful and informative when we did speak.

I expressed my frustration with him getting back with me and he gave me his direct email. We got the video tape finished and I did get a quote but it had a few errors. It's supposed to be a binding bid so I want it to be correct. Got back in touch with Johnny again with all our questions and he was supposed to let me know about down payment and correcting the mistakes on the quote. I've never heard back. I've emailed him directly twice on June 28th and July 1st. No response. I'm not going to email the manager again. I'm not going to call and get a recording again. I understand being busy but I'm done.

Although I was promised that they would call me ahead of time to confirm the time that the movers would arrive, I never received a word from them on this. On the day before the scheduled move date, I kept calling during the day and they kept promising to get back to me. Finally, at 6 PM the day before the move date, they called to say that the truck was held up and wouldn't be there the next day. I called the apartment complex to explain the delay the next day, July 1st. I again called throughout the day, asking what time they would be there the next day, July 2nd. Again they kept putting me off. Finally, they told me that the EARLIEST, they could move me would be Saturday the 4th of July.

Since I obviously could not trust them and was paying rent, utilities etc as of the 1st, I cancelled the move with them & asked for a refund, which they provided. I now had to find someone at the last minute that could move me on the 3rd. Unable to shop around this time, I was forced to pay more than $2,000 over their quoted price and had to make special arrangements to get my apartment keys, since the office was closed due to the July 4th weekend. They don't deserve any stars and I wouldn't trust them to move me around the corner. They said they wanted to discuss compensation for their contractual violation but I haven't heard from them so I am likely headed to court.

I had to move from New York to Florida and I like the agent from American Van Lines. He was very honest and came across as sincere. I had gotten some successful bids from top companies. They were between 7,400 to 10,000 and he priced it. We had a nice talk online about the various pricing factors and he knew his business. I liked it a lot.

I had my family come in and they pre-packed about 45 cartons of personal stuff, including clothing and stuff that we were going through. The rest of it was done by the crew, which was another 20 cartons including mainly plates. Also, they took care of all the mirrors and paintings as well as all the wrapping for all the furniture that came down. I knew where everything was and I had the head of my maintenance crew up in New York walk through the apartment beforehand so that we have things where they belong.

When the crew came in, we had my guy there and he had the power of attorney. He did a walkthrough with the driver and went through room by room to make sure that it was as I remembered it and whatever was staying, was staying. We organized it that way and was very comfortable. We went through about a 15-minute walkthrough before the move started. The AVL crew was pretty much up to speed on that and was 99% accurate.

Because of the pandemic, we had a very tight receiving schedule and we didn't know when we would be able to have the house ready to receive. The crew had a two-day window and they came two hours early, which was fine. We spent the better part of the day checking everything in. They were wonderful with regard to putting things where it belong. But the boxes were not itemized. I didn't know what was inside the boxes that the moving company packed. And then there was some internal damage on the back, but not sufficient enough to put a claim in at the time. They were gonna call me back for claims and nobody ever called me back but I feel reluctant to put any claims because the guys were very good.

I did an online search and American Van Lines came up as one of the best rated ones. The initial person I talked to was great. It wasn't what I was expecting and that was probably from personal ignorance. This is my first time using movers. So I think there was just a lack of understanding on what the actual process would be on my end. I assumed that it would be my stuff going on a truck and going straight to the next destination. I didn't understand going in that it would be more of a multi-logistical step process. So there were like hiccups in learning about that after having purchased it. But otherwise, AVL handling it and being communicative about everything was great. Their people came in, they wrapped everything, and moved all of our boxes, and they were in and out of both of our places within maybe two hours. So, the actual moving process was amazing.

The way American Van Lines tag stuff is a little different. Two or three tags would go on something big. Then we would have a piece of rope or something really trivial that it'll have a tag on it. If it rains, the tagging process was a little different. The truck that they got was also not quite big enough for what we had. So, they had the little trailer, the little thing that goes up and down in the very back of the truck that lifts that up and you can put it in. They stacked that whole thing all the way to the top of the truck with our stuff. That was a little different, but it all made it here fine.

Plus they came early. They know we were all set timewise closing on the house. But they got down here way early and we weren't even here yet. So, they had to sit down here and wait two days or more for us to get down here before they could put stuff in. So, that wasn't coordinated very well. But the experience was good. We got all of our stuff down here and the main guy was awesome and worked really hard. Everything was great.

Everything with American Van Lines went wonderfully. They brought everything. There was a table that they brought from Captiva, but when I got them, the edges got busted up. But I really don’t care now because it turned out that it wasn’t a marble table. It was actually plaster of Paris. What happened was, when we brought it out here, we did set the table up, and because of the dry climate here, the entire surface started peeling like crazy and it's all flaked. So, that was the only mishap, but that wasn’t their guys’ fault. They did a wonderful job. They showed up in Florida when I needed them, and they brought everything out here, and everything else made it. So, I'm very satisfied, and I would definitely use their service again.

My kid sister set the whole thing up. We needed movers to get stuff out of Florida and bring it here in Santa Fe. She found American Van Lines' information online, probably looked at the customer responses with all the stars, and determined that they were the best. It was quite surprising that one gentleman showed up in a rental van and he drove it out here himself. I was really impressed with that. Then, he had to race off to Las Vegas for the next one. He was a really wonderful guy.

He did the whole thing on the other end all by himself. He repacked boxes with fragile items because he determined that my packing wasn’t sound. Then, when he came here, he showed up with a gentleman, and the two of them did the rest of it. But he had to move an armoire and he did that by himself. It has the weight for four human beings. So, I was really impressed with that, and the whole thing went really well and really smooth. He did me a favor. I didn’t have to break down my bicycle and box it. He just stuck it in the back of the van and brought it right here and there was not a scratch on it. He's the guy you want. He has positive mental attitude. He is upbeat and loves what he's doing. He's dedicated to the company, and it showed.

Initially we had agreed to have movers come in the range from the April 16th-18th of April to help my fiancé and I move cross country (VA to CA). We receive a call week prior requesting if they can come early on the 15th, which we agreed upon. On the 13th, we get another call saying that the driver is earlier and asked if they can come on the 13th, between 5-7pm. Due to my fiancé and I both being at work, we really tried to stick to the 15th since we would both be off work early on that date. The person we talked to stated that due to the driver’s route, he would not be able to pick up our items at that time or any other time that week (which went against our original contract). Because of this, on the 13th, I had to clock out of work EARLY to meet the driver.

6:40pm rolls around and we hear nothing from American. WE had to call our rep and she told us the driver was running behind and would not be able to move us until 7:00am the following morning, on the 14th! Because we both work in the morning, that time was not going to work for us. Since we had no other option, they agreed to pick up on the 14th from 6-8pm. ONCE AGAIN, we had to reach out ourselves, MULTIPLE TIMES, to make sure our mover was coming. When we finally got in contact with someone, we told they were NOT going to be able to move us, AGAIN. American moved our date a THIRD time to the 15th at 5pm. The 15th rolls around and at 6pm we get a call from the driver, stating he is 4 HOURS AWAY. The Driver didn’t get to us until 10:40PM on a work night and did not leave until 2AM! My fiancé even had to help move our belongings because the mover came by himself.

Dropping our things off was a similar story too. We were told THREE different days that our movers would come and were charged BEFORE any of our things were dropped off. It seemed as though the communication between our movers and our customer service rep was very poor. Luckily, we received most of our things in one piece, but we did have 2 broken lamps, broken glasses, missing couch pillows, and a missing coffee table that I am hoping we will get compensated for. Why even have a contract if you are not going to stick to it? It is very unfortunate because we hired American based off of positive reviews, but our experience, was very much a hassle and made our cross-country move even more stressful.

Amazing service. They came to my house to provide me with a binding estimate and in the end, I paid exactly what they estimated. I have moved so many times and moving companies are a horror to me, not this one. Their employees were friendly, supportive and professional. Nothing was broken, nothing was charged in excess of the original estimate after my goods were loaded onto the truck; usually you receive a big nasty surprise when they present the final charges. Customer service from their office was friendly and followed up with me making sure that everything was completed to my satisfaction. I felt informed, supported and valued as a customer. I will definitely return.

I have moved several times over the years and have never had an easier move than with American Van Lines. It was a last minute move and the company was recommended by a good friend of mine who had just moved. Their representative, Brian, responded to my inquiry right away and came over the next day to give me a quote. It was a very reasonable, fair, flat rate that included everything. They dropped off all the boxes and wrapping paper a few days before the move and the movers were outstanding. They were super careful and got it done quickly and efficiently. Not one item was damaged or broken which I don’t think has ever happened when I moved in the past. They even put the boxes in the correct room for me. A few days later Victoria contacted me to follow up and make sure everything has gone well and to make sure I didn’t have any issues. Outstanding company!!!

At first, it seemed that American Van Lines was organized, helpful, and communicative. Then we were given a ‘moving coordinator.’ Our ‘moving coordinator’ did anything but that—coordinate our move. First, each time I called, I was sent directly to voicemail. She repeatedly misunderstood what I was asking for, and didn’t ask for clarification. Our move was short, only 3 hours away, but instead of communicating that our stuff would arrive a day later than originally predicted, she waited for me to call, the morning it was supposed to be delivered, to ask where our stuff was.

Finally, after our things were delivered, she insisted she knew several details of our move without even talking to dispatch or the truck driver who had actually packed and carried out our move. It was only when I asked to speak with her manager that she decided to contact dispatch, whereupon I was proven correct. TL;DR these people are ineffective communicators, and if your coordinator is Rebecca **, just assume you’re coordinating your move yourself.

I liked how American Van Lines was cheaper than anybody else. I went with them but it turned out that I had more items than I thought I did so my move became quite expensive. By the time they came, loaded my belongings, and quoted me a price, it was too late to go to anybody else. I was stuck with the price they quoted me and I was upset. They didn't make any attempt at all to make it cheaper for me.

I looked at reviews and made Google searches on moving companies. It was a tough thing to look up because it seemed like there were a lot of shady places with bought reviews. But ultimately, it was the customer experience that helped me decide which one to go with. I reached out to three people and American Van Lines was the most responsive and receptive. But they had surprise prices that came up after I had committed and that part kinda sucked. They were still good overall though.

My move was about 2,500 miles and it was excellent. American Van Lines was very professional and real good about it. They were timely and pretty accommodating, too. They gave me a three-day window of when the movers could come because they coordinated stuff behind the scenes. But they held on to that and met the timelines. In fact, that was one of the quicker deliveries because I was the last on the truck. Meaning, I was the first one off, so my stuff got here in about five days, which was amazing. I’d use them again.

I was moving about 850 miles and I looked through internet opportunities. American Van Lines was the name that I recognized, so I felt comfortable that I’ve seen their vans in places. The rep that I dealt with was good. She was very communicative, empathetic, and clear on what to expect. At the time, I was living in Texas waiting for everything and on the pickup day, my dog died. The guy that picked up was two and a half hours early and I was having a family member go and be there to be ready for the pick up. So, it was a hassle that he missed the window by over two hours on the early side and I had to scramble while I was making final preparations to put my dog down.

It was frustrating that I had to deal with that and if he came within that window, I wouldn’t have had any issue. He also had my family member's contact information and he could have called him directly. Obviously, he didn’t know what was wrong with my dog but it was almost like he didn’t read the instructions or he wanted to get uptown, so it was on his schedule. And I get that as I work in logistics. It is what it is but that just sticks out in my head because it was a bad day.

Aside from that, I had a couple of vases and a file cabinet that were damaged from the move. But I haven't filled out the complaint yet because it'd be 60 cents a pound and it seems like it’s more hassle than it’s worth to even bother filling out the paperwork. I won’t get the value of the product at all, so why bother going through the paperwork? But overall, I had a good experience with American Van Lines. The process of unloading the stuff was fine. They called things by numbers and we checked off on them, then we trued-up the inventory and the packing sheets before they left. It was very much a paper process, which was also understandable and easy to follow.

I am giving them 1 star because zero isn’t an option. The actual move ended up being over double the quote. The office is unreachable. We have left multiple messages to get our final invoice. No response.

I was moving from Greer, South Carolina. I was living there alone. My wife had died a year before and I wanted to get away from there and come back up here which is home. She’s buried up here, so I decided to move up here. I googled moving companies, and then I looked for one that had a good rate and it turned out to be American Van Lines. It was a wonderful experience. Travis did a fantastic job. I had one little thing broken and a couple of lampshades that got crushed partially, but it was a big move and he worked hard. If I ever have to make another move, I’d sure hunt up Travis.
