Horrible customer service. Long hold times, no resolution. My pod was to be delivered on 7/9. I called this morning 7/7 to find out if it was in the area only to find out after 6 hours of back and forth that pod was still in its original location and hadn’t shipped. I made arrangements to be at my elderly mother's home to unload all for naught. No call, no pod, hours in frustrating hold times, callbacks from the company put you on hold yet again. Never again. Poor service, and I still don’t know when it might arrive in AZ. Which is kind of important, because I will have to return from Colorado incurring more time and expense. NEVER AGAIN. I’d give zero stars if I could

Worst experience with 1-800-Pack-rat!!! Had booked a 16 foot container for a long distance move from Redmond, WA to Mountain View, California. I was scheduled for the container drop off today (6/27). This morning I got a text from an unknown number saying due to driver call out, my service cannot be completed. Spent the next 6 hrs trying to get in touch with pack-rat to understand what was happening and what my options were. Explained to multiple people that I have to move out of my home no later than 7/2, and all that happened were transfer of calls without anyone helping me. Finally gave up on pack-rat and went ahead with other movers by paying lot more due to last minute booking. I am still not able to talk to someone at pack-rat about my compensation even after additional hours of calls. I am considering legal options on 1-800-pack-rat for making my husband and me go through this experience.
Kavya, we apologize for the issues that you experienced, which caused you to cancel your move with us. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, so that we can use your experience to better our customer service experience going forward.

Updated on 07/01/2025: Called AGAIN today 6/30/25, was moved along to “dispatch manager”, waited ANOTHER 2 HOURS ON HOLD, NO ANSWER! This company is an absolute JOKE!
Original Review: This company is the ABSOLUTE WORST CHOICE for moving anywhere, let alone across country. We have PAID our contracted fee to move our container from CA to TN, PAID ALREADY! The original arrival date for our container to get to the facility in TN was YESTERDAY! Today, we are on the phone with them AGAIN on OUR TIME only to be told our container is, yep, you guessed it! STILL IN CA!!!
All the customer service reps ever do is offer an empty apology and say “Let me send you over to DISPATCH,” WHY BOTHER??? DISPATCH NEVER ANSWERS THE DAMN PHONE! We were on HOLD FOR OVER 2 HOURS, they never answered!!! Do yourself a HUGE favor and choose a moving company that WILL ACTUALLY MOVE your things, because all this company can do is run you around in circles while your family is sleeping on the floor in your new home FOR WEEKS while they play pass the potato on the phone. It has been our personal experience that 1800PackRat doesn’t give a DAMN about their customers, FULL STOP.

I hired Pack Rat to move my belongings from NH to GA. Container was delivered to my home in NH 4/25. Pick up in NH was 5/19 to be delivered directly to GA facility. Contacted to have container to new address in GA for 6/11. Received call late on 6/10 that container was still in Boston MA and would be priority to deliver to GA by 6/13 or 6/16 the latest. I closed on my new home on 6/12 and finally received container on 6/19 at 9pm. Both drivers were extremely pleasant and polite. Customer service is severely lacking and I would not recommend them at all.

Booked date of 03/19/25 for a long distance move from Colorado to Florida - One 16ft Pod. Scheduled delivery of on the of 30th of May. After rushing to pack the pod for the long distance move to Florida to meet our deadline and making sure with customer service that they could pick up on 06/06/25 and shipped with the timeline of 10 business days. On the original pick date, I logged into my account and seen that the pick up date changed to 9th without my knowledge.
I called customer service and spoke with someone who stated that the drivers couldn’t get that day and it needs to move. So it need got moved to the 9th, a little frustrated I accepted and was promised it would be picked up on the 9th. The 9th came, and after sitting around all day, I called customer service again who stated it would be picked up between “330-730”. Again frustrated I said okay and waited, 730 came and still didn’t get picked up.
I called customer service AGAIN who stated “they couldn’t get to it today but they will be there on the 10th first thing in the morning”. The 10th came, still no one showed up I called customer service again who stated “I called the driver and they assured me your pod will be picked up between 12-2.” So again I waited from 12-2, no one showed up or called. Called customer service Again who stated “pick up times are subject to change”. Then comes back after putting me on hold saying “no is answering” so you have to wait. My POD is still hasn’t been picked up 5 days after the original scheduled appointment. This company is horrible, the customer service is trash , the communication is terrible, they don’t help you and just push you off to the customer service agent.

At first, our experience was great. We had a pod delivered, filled it and had it put in storage until we make the move to our new house. We decided to get a second one. This time, the experience was horrible. Once again, we specifically stated we needed the pod as far over in our driveway to our neighbors house and near the doors near the grass by the fence. The female driver that came out to Marrero, LA around 1:30pm not only ignored these instructions, but when I pointed this out, she was rude as hell and refused to adjust the pod at all.
My husband met with the manager to show on the security cameras the issue and essentially they didn't care. The driver who delivered was bragging about getting off early to go somewhere. No wonder she dropped it in the MIDDLE of our driveway so we can't even park in it - as I stated we needed to be able to do. Go with another company. This one is clearly garbage with incompetent people working here who can't follow directions. They want to charge you for a service, but do not fulfill it - yet the original driver who delivered had absolutely no issues the first time. The lady who came today only cared about dropping it INCORRECTLY and leaving. Save yourself the headache.

I recently scheduled a delivery with Pack Rat for 6/2/25 and received a confirmation email with that date. The container was for a client’s home renovation, and everything was planned around that delivery.
Unfortunately, Pack Rat made only one unsuccessful attempt to reach us by phone and never followed up. We later learned—without prior notice—that they were overbooked and wouldn’t be able to deliver until 6/4/25. In the context of a home remodel, where timing is critical, this last-minute change caused unnecessary delays and complications.
Their customer service was disappointing—uninterested and unhelpful. They offered a token $59 discount on the delivery fee but made no real effort to resolve the issue. Even worse, they couldn’t provide a delivery window for 6/4, leaving us uncertain about when—or if—the container would arrive. If you're looking for reliable service and professional communication, I’d strongly recommend choosing another company.

Our recent experience with this storage company was frustrating and completely unacceptable. Despite paying extra for an AM delivery, our storage pod never arrived on the scheduled date. Even worse, we received no communication about the delay—not a single call, text, or email—despite multiple confirmations that it would be delivered on Saturday. I spent over an hour on hold across two calls trying to get answers. Eventually, I was told the delivery had been rescheduled for Sunday without any notice. We were promised follow-up updates that never came, and astonishingly, no one from the company was able to reach the local delivery branch the entire day.
This failure wasted the time of friends who came to help us move, and my wife and I were forced to complete the move ourselves the next day with no help. Sadly, this wasn’t our first bad experience. Our previous order was also delivered late, though at least we received a courtesy call that time. A refund for the AM fee was finally issued after several more phone calls, but that was the bare minimum given the level of disruption. We were then promised a full refund, but it was never processed. We will never use this company again and strongly advise others to think twice before trusting them with their move.

I hired Packrat to move my belongings from Colorado to Arizona. As part of that process, they also included adding on the people to load and unload the pods during my initial phone call. The loaders were nice but did not take care of my belongings. Packrat has denied my claim of damages (including brand new furniture damaged). Packrat as a whole not taking responsibility for damage to items that were loaded by people as part of my agreement with you is not good business. I would not recommend and would use another firm to move belongings if I had to do this over again. The Packrat drivers that delivered and picked up the pods were wonderful and very courteous. That was the only good part of my move.

Our initial customer service rep was very helpful, promised to beat any other container quote we received (and did), and when we decided to go with Pack Rat, happily assisted as we made various changes to our drop-off and pick-up schedule. Container was delivered on the day they said it would be and we packed it up. Everything seemed to be going great. They came today to pick up the container, as promised, but I was extremely disappointed to come home after work to find a huge divot in my driveway that wasn't there before. Not something I need as I'm getting ready to put the house on the market. Our container is on the way to Texas now and we'll see how the rest of our experience goes. This was a very frustrating and disappointing event after what had been to this point a positive experience.

I moved from Colorado to Florida. I called PACK RAT and gave them the size of my house, the number of rooms and the items that were going to need to fit. They recommended the 16 foot. I was in Florida working, when I returned to pack, the container was too small. They could not get me another container before I to leave; the house was sold. I ended up leaving a few thousand dollars of furniture. Then when the container was too small arrived in Florida, I received a call that they would be there before 5:00. I had movers lined up. The driver never called and did not show up until 9:00pm.
This is by far the worst moving experience I have had. This company cost me a lot of money and did not deliver on their promise of service. And good luck trying to get ahold of their customer service, no one answers the phone. I was on hold for over an hour and finally hung up. I would not recommend using them. Go for the actual PODS company, U-Haul or anyone else. Wish I would have never chose them!!!

No notification to customer was made prior to fraudulent use of the credit card. No invoice was mailed or emailed and were told by a customer service rep that "we do not issue refunds." We then called again the next day and it was impossible to get anyone by phone. Transferred 3 times and ended up at voicemail. No call back. AVOID 1-800-Pack Rat Moving Company at all costs! Buyers, be aware! You cannot expect satisfying service from 2 out of 5-star fraudulent businesses. **Awful Experience with Pack Rat – A Complete Scam!** Because of my awful business with the fraudulent Pack Rat moving company, I feel I must WARN OTHERS before they make the same mistake. The most infuriating part is that my delivery was delayed by an unbelievable 10 DAYS despite various promises made by their sales team when they got my business. I genuinely hope I worked with PODs and saved the hassle.
This delay ruined my 2500-mile move plan, which was set and executed perfectly. I went without my belongings for 10 days. My family and I had to stay and pay for hotel stays, and I can't begin to describe how inconvenient and expensive this was. As if that wasn't enough, their idea of compensation for this major hassle was an absurd $100! Seriously? I went ten days without my belongings, and their solution was a paltry hundred bucks. It's downright laughable and demonstrates that they NEVER care about their customers. All they care about is receiving your money. Pack Rat is truly a fraud company disguised as a moving service. They entice you with promises of affordability and ease but ultimately deliver a horrific customer and transportation experience. ==> Do yourself a favor and save time and money — AVOID Pack Rat at all costs! I regret choosing them and wish I had gone with PODs instead!

They eventually helped me find the right locks and the locks seem secure. I am still not very happy about my experience. It would have been better if they either provided the lock for sale, shown me a photo of one or at least advised me the very specific size and shape of the lock that is needed. These locks are very specific and it can get expensive and time consuming to buy several locks that don't fit before you figure it out.
Original Review: Jan. 13, 2025
Extremely unsecure boxes. These boxes cannot be locked with a normal size padlock. They must be locked with a miniature lock, such as a suitcase lock. The hasp holes are tiny and deeply inset to prevent the use of a secure padlock. It seems obvious this is so that you will want to purchase the highest tier of insurance from them, which they push very heavily. They explain that your box could be broken into while in transit. Really? Then, why don't you let customers lock the box with a real lock?! I have tried numerous types and sizes of locks. I've spent over $200 in padlocks trying to find one that fits. As it turns out, you can't return a padlock just because it doesn't fit, so I'm the proud owner of a collection of padlocks I don't need, all thanks to 1800 Pack Rat. What a terrible company. If you use these guys, don't use them for anything valuable. You will definitely regret it.

I will not be using this company. I had everything ready and called to ask one simple question: if the driver would alert me when en route. Told the representative "Becky" that I was waiting for one thing before I wanted to book and that my date might change. She tried to get me to giver her Credit Card info over the phone and I wasn't confident about doing that. No big deal. I kept the browser window with my quote open. When I returned to go ahead and finish booking, that wasn't available anymore. My quote disappeared?? I did get an email and when I click on the email link it tries to send the user to an insecure site...no SSL certificate?
So, I phoned again to find out how to continue my quote. Spoke with "Mike". Mike seemed offput and said, "Didn't she offer to take your Credit Card information over the phone?" I began to answer "yes, but I am not comfortable with...." and then the phone call stopped and I was now on hold with a recorded message telling me it would be 30 minutes for the first available representative. Recorded message said to press Star to enter phone number and it would phone me back... Never happed. The phone call ended.
This is just way too many red flags:1. Seeming insistence to gather credit card info over the phone
2. Email links that direct to insecure sites (sites where one is expecting to have to enter credit card Information)
3. Deleted quote
4. Basically being hung up on
Nope!

Updated on 12/12/2024: I am following up on my previous review because I thought I just updated my review with additional commentary, but what happened was this website said my issue had been marked as "resolved." It is far from resolved and I can't find a way to fix this. I just wanted to add an update about getting a call from a woman who only left me a general, waste of time, 800 number to call her back on. She did not leave a direct number. She implied she had tried to call me yesterday with the usual smoke and mirrors. It has been almost a week and this is all I get. This is actually criminal.
Please read my previous review. To any potential customers, my case has not, in any way, been resolved. It has been almost a week since my container was taken without my consent. I have no idea where it is and after months of carefully packing and cleaning everything, the container was shipped without anything secured, meaning there will likely be a lot of damage. I sent an email asking for a direct number. I wish I could add to this review without it being marked as resolved. Beware, do not update your review if your case is not resolved. It will only give a green light for the company to not put much effort into your case.
Original Review: I originally chose Pack Rat because they had metal containers and that was a way to avoid the toxic chemical build up in wood from what previous movers might spray into a pod, such as rodenticide. I also wanted to avoid mold that also contaminates porous materials like wood. At first it seemed ok, but then I realized that I would never be able to reach the person who made the sale again. While there are some direct lines, they will not call you back after the sale is made. From there, you are forced to call the general customer service line where the hold time can be well over an hour, sometimes two hours.
Customer service overall is deeply disconnected in terms of communication and, from my experience, it's a good idea to plan on something different than what you asked for or expected. It’s also in your best interest to get everything you discuss in writing. I have had a series of experiences that proved this to be true and the general approach seems to be that someone at customer service says someone will reach out to you, then no one does, then if you take the time to call again and ask why no one reached out to you the person you are talking to will say someone did reach out. Then, when you try to find out how they reached out and mention that there is no call history of that, the answer is that they may have emailed you... but there is no email. That pretty much sums it up.
The people working under corporate know there are major issues and some seemed to be doing their best to help. After a prolonged, exhausting stretch of trying to downsize an entire home to an 8-foot container, I finally moved out of my home and sent my half filled pod to the Pack Rat local storage warehouse. During this process, I stressed over and over again with witnesses and Pack Rat recording all calls that my container was not to be shipped until I gave authorization, as I was not finished packing it. I did this on more than one call because they kept repeating where it was scheduled to be shipped. I also pointed out that my destination had become a placeholder that might change.
I called the main Pack Rat number to schedule the warehouse to pull my container out for a few days so I could start loading again. I was not sure how much time I'd need. That seemed to go okay and I was still clear on nothing being shipped until I gave authorization. When I went to the container, the warehouse manager was great and said to just let him know when I wanted it put back into storage. I started doing some loading, then got sick and was about to pick back up again with help when I received a message from that manager that my pod had been shipped...
It seems the last woman I spoke to checked a box that said I wanted it shipped on the 3rd day it was out of the warehouse. I never asked for this, as I was not sure how much time I'd need. No one from Pack Rat called me to let me know this was happening. It just happened. The warehouse manager was gone when it shipped, otherwise, I’m guessing he would have stopped it or at least called me.
The worst part is that my container was a little over half full and I had unstrapped everything to do some rearranging. What this means is that my container left with boxes stacked and nothing was secured. I had loose items up front that were supposed to go into boxes...There was glass...You get the picture.... In addition, I had all of my clothes and travel items that had been meticulously organized over months for a cross-country trip stored in there. What this means is that I will need to replace all of that in a matter of days, which is not really possible. My packing supplies were also all in there. This is any mover’s nightmare from hell. I don't know if Pack Rat intends to reimburse me or when.
Now, I have no idea when I'll have access to my belongings again and I will not know just how damaged everything is until I get to it, wherever it ends up. I dread the process, especially because I know how much of a deeply painful and time consuming project it is to get anywhere with this company. I was supposed to hear from someone about this disaster but it's been days and no one has even bothered to call me.
Upon my request, they did, though the warehouse manager, give me a new pod on the day I found out, so at least there was that, but the whole situation sucked the remaining life out of me and caused me to derail from a very tight schedule incurring the further expense of staying in town longer. I had to call again today to request a call, but it is midnight and I have not gotten that call. This whole process drained me to the bone and I feel sick again. It has made it difficult for me to get on the road on time.
All that said, I would not recommend this company. There are some really good and decent people mixed in there who want to help and are truly customer service oriented, but the communication issues are deeply problematic. If you go with this company, you might just be the next one to pay a very big price. What I want to see in terms of a resolution is for Pack Rat to act in a truly honorable and decent way, taking full responsibility and going above and beyond to make things right. Moving is already a painful undertaking. The moving company should help, not compound the difficulty.

I ordered a Pack rat to store and move my belongings. I first used the storage unit to store my unused things while the home was on the market. Three weeks after loading my things into the storage unit, I opened it to add more things. There was a musty, moldy smell coming out of it. My things were wet. I took pictures of the DUCT TAPE Packrat used to repair the damage to the ceiling, and it was recklessly installed. Upon further inspection, you could see daylight out of the side and the bottom piece of metal was rusty. It was pure negligence for Packrat to deliver a storage unit that leaked. ADDITIONALLY, PACKRAT HAS DECLINED THE CLAIM I PUT IN TO COMPENSATE ME FOR MY DESTROYED FURNITURE AND BABY ITEMS.

Terrible communication, punctuality, customer service and pricing. Initially went with Pack Rat because it seemed competitive in pricing compared to other companies. Easy to book online, however when it comes to delivery and pick up they drop the ball. Ok delivery they said our window was until 9pm. It was getting late so I called to check on deliver, was reassured that it was en route and I would receive it. At 9pm still no delivery. Called and was told the driver had reached hour limits and couldn't make it. No communication from anyone. Also, my movers had to be rescheduled because the pod wouldn't be there on time. On pick up, same story. Never arrived. Called to check and was told drivers go until 10pm so be patient. No show, no call. So unprofessional.
In regards to cost. It was $262 upfront, they gave me a few dollars for my inconvenience (did not cover the cost of the movers rescheduling). Then I was told pickup was $100 plus another 360 even though I just paid the second month rental of $262 a few days prior. Since my was pick up never made it on Friday night, I called Saturday morning and a prerecorded message told me the wait time was over an hour, then disconnected me. Apparently they are not available on weekends for calls. If you want to avoid a headache, as moves are already stressful enough. Save your time and money and go with a more professional company.

This is one of the worst experiences I've had to deal with in a long time. Requested the pod be placed with the door facing my house. When Driver came (very nice young lady) she explained that if it's coming from the warehouse it can be placed like that but it was coming from another job so the door will have to be placed facing the street. To turn it around it's a extra 100.00. So basically I have to walk around with my walking cane to carry the items to the pod instead of straight in from my garage.
I've called customer service, billing, etc. The pod is unless for me at this point. Refunded all but my delivery fee. Said it won't be refunded because it was delivered even though it was delivered wrong and I can't use it. But they claim they offered for someone to come and turn it around for free 6 days away. But why not turn it around the first time and not charge me the extra 100 to do was requested from the beginning. We I tell you I will not rest until this pod is out of my driveway and I receive all of my money back.

If you are going to try to get ahold of anyone at this company, be sure to set aside a minimum of an hour. Probably an hour and a half. The soonest you can schedule a pickup is 2+ weeks. If someone tells you they are going to call you back, don't believe it. And if you have to talk to anyone in scheduling, be ready for Grade A condescension. When all is said and done, my stupid decision to use this company is either going to cost me a couple of grand or all of the stuff I put in the container will be destroyed because I can't get a pickup of the container. Avoid at all costs.

The worst moving service I have ever used and I’ve moved 32 times in my life. Many of those moves cross country. I wouldn’t wish this company on my worst enemy. Pay the extra money for the competition. Trust me it will be worth it. I have $15,000 dollars worth of items fall out of the truck due to their pick up guy not checking the doors before loading. I put in the insurance claim (mind you I paid for the extra insurance because I know I had pricey items) and they denied it because apparently it’s not their fault. I had to meet this man on the side of a freeway with the key to properly secure the door that would have took 5 min to check before loading the pod. Their driver apologized and let me know I could file a claim because he didn’t know how long the doors were open or if anything fell out and didn’t let me check since we were on the side of the freeway.
Upon drop off of the pod instantly I know things were missing and broken. My claim was denied because they said my items weren’t packed properly and they claimed the driver didn’t see anything fall out. Also the proof I sent them of the items (which followed their guidelines) was not enough. They said there was no proof it was ever on the truck. After months of waiting for this to resolve they simply said they couldn’t take responsibility. Boy aren’t those words as true as can be. Go with a company that CAN and WILL take responsibility for their actions and will look out for their customers. This made an already hard move a nightmare. Still considering taking them to court.

My experience with 1800PACKRAT was nothing short of a nightmare. It was a classic bait-and-switch, with empty promises and a complete lack of accountability. Just to be clear, I am in Northern NJ. I placed an order for a container that was supposed to be delivered on a Monday. I took a day off work and waited at the property all day, only to find out at 4 PM, after an hour of waiting for a callback and then another 30-minute hold (rendering the callback pointless), that the delivery was rescheduled for the next day. No notifications, no warnings, absolutely nothing to let me know in advance!
So, I had to take yet another day off work and wait the entire day on Tuesday. Once again, at 4 PM, after a maddeningly long wait on hold, I was reassured that the delivery was on its way. However, after 5 PM, I received a text from the driver with an ETA of 6-7 PM. When 7:30 PM rolled around with no sign of the container, I tried calling and texting the driver, only to be met with silence.
Calling customer service yet again, I was once more assured that the delivery would happen. I was horrified to be told that deliveries could go as late as 10 PM! What reputable company thinks it's acceptable to cause such a disturbance on a residential street at 10 PM on a Tuesday? After calling back at 9:30 PM, I was finally told they couldn’t get a hold of anyone at the facility and had no idea when the container would actually be delivered.
This was the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with any company. There was no accountability, no respect for my time, and clearly, no concern for customer satisfaction. It’s no wonder they don’t allow reviews on Facebook or comments on their social media posts—probably because they know they'd be flooded with negative feedback. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY unless you absolutely don’t care when or if they ever show up. They are unreliable, unprofessional, and a complete waste of your time. Save yourself the headache and go with a company that actually values its customers.

If we could do it over again we wouldn't choose this company. My grandma ordered one of these pods as she had a stroke in January and her and my mother needed to start clearing out her house as she was no longer able to be mobile without a wheelchair or walker. The drop off went smoothly and everything was good as we started clearing out my grandmother's house however she passed away in March of this year. We determined that we were going to sell the house so we continued to clear it out and we even ordered another Pod that was delivered in April. Again it went okay the driver took out a bush and ran over some lighting but we decided not to complain much as we were selling the house and just needed to clear it all out as we had a deadline to follow.
Fast forward to the end of July, beginning of August my mom purchased a new house that was only 60.9 miles (about 1 hr and 15 minutes) from the location of the house we were selling and the pods. We hired movers to clear out the house and finish loading up the house which there is a pending sale on now. I called to set up a time to get the pods picked up and moved to the new house when I was told that they don't service that area?
The customer service rep was polite and apologized and she even told me that the location the containers came from (MD-Baltimore) was a mistake and she transferred me to someone who would help get everything updated. The person she transferred me to was extremely rude and ended up hanging up on me after telling me that I could just get a U haul and hire more movers to pay to empty the pod and then pack the U haul. I called back and the customer service rep again was nice and everything but I asked to speak to a supervisor cause I could not understand why a company who advertises long distance moves couldn't move these 2 16ft pods a little more than an hour away from where they currently are?
I couldn't get a straight answer on a way to fix this so now the only option I have is to pay movers again to come unload the containers and then pay for a Uhaul to move my mother before the end of the month which is the deadline for the sale of my grandmother's house. The most I was offered was the pickup cost of 1 of our 2 16 ft containers to be waived but in my opinion this is not good enough.
You advertise customer satisfaction and a quick and simple move for both local and long distance moving. Well why can't they move containers a whole m hour and 15 minutes from where they are at? This isn't considered "long distance," I am not even leaving the state we are just moving to a different county. I am now currently waiting for a callback (was told my wait time was 30+ minutes) from them to set up time at the end of the month to come pick up their EMPTY containers as we had no choice but to do what they said and empty the containers into a Uhaul and use that.
We are truly sorry for the serviceability issues and the poor customer service our customer experienced. A member of our team has attempted to reach Stephanie to discuss the situation. We hope to speak with her soon.

My overall experience with Pack-Rat was mixed during my recent move from the west coast to the east coast. The worst part was the extreme difference between Pack-Rat's originally quoted price & what they actually charged me -- I was not anticipating such a steep increase! I initially chose Pack-Rat over PODS due to their much lower quote, but what I actually paid ended up being significantly more than the PODS quote. I was fortunate to have enough money in my debit account at the time the final Pack-Rat payment went through, but it would've resulted in overdraw charges from the bank if not for the happy accident of my having put extra money into my account for another purpose.
My takeaway? Pack-Rat should specifically advise their customers to have enough funds in their accounts to accommodate up to 20% increase from the quoted price, in order not to be dinging their customers with bank charges. My initial experience with delivery of my container was fraught with difficulties. At first, the driver didn't think the truck & container would fit into the parking lot behind my new residence, so Jaice, my connection in the Franklin, MA Pack-Rat office where my container was sitting until it could be delivered, recommended I get a permit from the city to park the container on the street for a few days.
The permit application was expensive & a bureaucratic nightmare, but Jaice was my lifeline through this Kafka-esque experience. When I couldn't get answers from City Hall &/or the Department of Public Works, Jaice found phone numbers & emails for relevant city officials, & even stepped in & made phone calls himself. When the city finally denied my application, he was willing to send a driver over just to see if by chance the truck & container actually WOULD fit into the back parking lot after all, & HALLELUJAH, they did! Everything was smooth sailing after that.
In summary, lowball overall cost quote: BAD! Jaice in Franklin, MA office: GOOD! I can't in all honesty recommend Pack-Rats, but I think they'd be a good service if they were upfront about how their actual charges will be hugely increased from their initial quote. And I can't fault their handling of the container -- my Celtic harp & large mirrors all came through without damage.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Their storage containers are NOT rodent-proof. We opened ours periodically over the 6-months we rented ours (from October 2023 - April 2024) but in April found NUMEROUS field mice nested in our container that were not there, to our knowledge, months prior. We have never had a mouse in our house so this was surprising; people invest (at $250 per month) to rent these to obviously store things that mean something to them - not to have them scratched, soiled and chewed = RUINED = by rodents. Their cistomer service was HELPLESS as was their "CLAIMS DEPARTMENT". We supplied numerous pictures of the actual mice & their nests as well as the damaged pieces of furniture yet they denied us twice. We appealed their decision the first time only to have to denied a second time. I am starting a class action suit. DO NOT. RENT ONE OF THEIR CONTAINERS = you will be sorry you did.

Turns out my stuff HAS BEEN in TX FOR A WEEK as of today. Their response to my request to refund the $700 - It's MY FAULT for not calling!! Why have a customer portal if I can't depend on it being updated that my stuff made it to its final destination? They were quick to charge my credit card and send me email of that charge! But they can't send email or update the customer portal to tell customers the location of their pods. UNSAT!! I am now looking into a class action law suit against them. I will take on additional people when I set that lawsuit up.

Updated on 07/18/2024: I had major problems with this company getting my container picked up and delivered to my final destination but luckily this all got resolved. However, it's been about a month and I got an email today saying that they charged me a big chunk of money and I don't even know what for. It was the exact amount that I was refunded previously and I was told that I wouldn't have any more charges after the refund was issued. I am so frustrated that I keep having this many issues with this company. Stay away from this company at all costs, it just isn't worth the hassle you'll go through to save a little bit of money. Someone better reach out to me so we can get this issue solved.
Original Review: This company is the ABSOLUTE WORST! I have never experienced such terrible customer service! I called 6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE to schedule my storage container and yet I ended up having so many issues. Everything was smooth with the delivery of the empty container. It was then scheduled to be picked up 3 days later which was a Thursday. I got a call on Wednesday telling me that they wouldn't be able to pick it up until Friday. Friday came around and by 6:00 pm I still hadn't received a call about when they'd pick it up. I called in and waited on the phone for an hour and they told me that I was no longer on the schedule for that day and that they wouldn't pick it up until Saturday between 3:30 and 7:30pm. I don't end up getting a call from the driver until 8:30pm and he tells me he's on his way to pick it up.
At 9:00pm he gets there and says he can't pick it up because he doesn't have enough clearance for the truck and that they won't be able to come back until Monday and they'll have to try again. After that I decided to cancel the entire order altogether and just decided to use a moving truck. I spent literally 5 or 6 hours on the phone with them in the span of 3 days trying to figure this out and the customer service people I spoke with couldn't give me details of what the issues were and they only wanted to refund me $150 for a $3500. I feel like when you pay this much and aren't receiving the service you were promised, you should be compensated a lot more than what they were offering.
The customer service was TERRIBLE and pretty much everyone I spoke to didn't do anything to help or resolve my concerns. STAY AWAY from this company at all costs!!!! Pay more money and go with another company like PODS or better yet, just get a moving truck and do it yourself so you don't have to worry about these types of things happening, or worse, them not delivering your full container to your final destination when scheduled!
We are deeply sorry for the pick-up issues that disrupted our customer's move and caused his cancellation. We can confirm that a member of our team has spoken with Anthony to discuss his experience in further detail, and to process a refund. We look forward to getting this resolved as soon as possible.

In a word: awful. Issues with pricing, pickup and terrible wait times. I was nearly charged $1400 on a $650 quote and had to fight it by requesting call logs! Even after it was clear I was being swindled it took nearly 2 hours on the phone to get the price honored that I was quoted. On top of that I scheduled pickup for today and have called to check if it is happening and was told yes, and it's nearly 9 PM and no one has picked up my container yet! Still on hold now waiting for some response.
We appreciate our customer taking the time to share detailed feedback regarding his experience. We sincerely apologize for the delays and the long hold times that occurred during his move. They rescheduled initial delivery and pickup with zero notice. When I called customer service, they couldn't help and would transfer me to a northern department. Five times I was put on hold for 20-30 minutes to be transferred and each time I'd get hung up on before the line was answered. When I called back I was told that the department that they were transferring me to was busy and it's close to closing time so they are just hanging up on calls. Currently in process of hiring a U-Haul and moving everything out of the pod and into a truck. Pack Rat is a garbage company, horrible service, a complete rip-off. Will be filing with the Better Business Bureau and filing a chargeback through credit card.
We would like to sincerely apologize for the unexpected rescheduling, delays, and the difficulty our customer had reaching us. A member of our Resolution Department has connected with Dustin to discuss his experience and to ensure the pick-up is scheduled. We hope to have this resolved as soon as possible.

I booked with the company a month before my move out date with their moving container. A day before my move out date, I called them to check if everything was going as scheduled, and they said yes. The next day I get a text from the company that I won't get my container. I had to move out the next day of my settled day. The company didn't care about my issues and had me waiting for extra 7 days. I called different companies, but since it was 1,300 they couldn't offer me a reliable date for the service. I was kicked out the apartment with all my things and had to rent a storage unit. Never again using this company for nothing.

Booking, delivery, and pick-up of the containers was fine, and they quoted us a much more reasonable rate than the competition. They were even flexible when we realized we would need a larger second container than what we had reserved. But let's talk about the drop-off... We were told that the containers would be delivered to our new home on June 20th, so we planned to sleep on the floor for two nights. On June 19th we were notified that the containers would arrive on June 24th. Then we were told June 21st. And on June 21st we were told June 22nd. Long story short, we're in limbo, still sleeping on the floor, and can't hire help to unload the containers because we don't know when they'll arrive. We've spent hundreds on restaurant food because we're not going to buy new cooking equipment... We will absolutely NEVER work with them again.
We sincerely apologize for the delays our customer experienced, and for the additional hardships this caused them and their family. We were unable to reach Pilar to discuss the issues that occurred, but we can confirm that the move has been completed. We appreciate the feedback as we are always working to improve our services.

We had a container delivered to our driveway when our basement was being gutted & remodeled (A long story… unplanned and expensive… We had a flood the day my husband had unexpected triple bypass surgery; flood resulted in installing a French drain, resulting in the basement needing remodeling). Renting the container was very easy, and the online communication was smooth. Our first issue was with the man who brought it and spent an inordinate amount of time leveling the container, which was significantly tipped when he left. So much so, that the door slammed closed each time we opened it. It would have been better if he hadn’t done anything. Since the container was mainly for our furniture, we let it go.
I assume the next problem was my fault for not reading the contract carefully. They DO NOT PRORATE!!! So, our last month we paid the full monthly amount for just 3/4 days of use. Pay attention to how long you need their container and read carefully! What made us really angry though was that they did not come to pick up the container on the day scheduled. I had scheduled multiple workers that week, in order to get our home back together before family came to visit. The container removal was necessary for all to go smoothly.
Yes, we had an email pickup confirmation from 1800 PackRat. No, we did not pay the extra $50 to specify morning or afternoon pick up. We did however unexpectedly need to have our old HVAC system replaced and the container was in the way. I phoned on the morning of the scheduled pickup to find out approximately when we should expect someone; they could not tell me, said it could be anytime before 9pm. No one came for the pickup, HVAC installers (here from 8am until 7:30 pm) had to walk around the container all day.
At 9pm I phoned 1800 PackRat again and was told our pickup had been moved to the next day. No, they never called, texted or emailed us. I asked for the manager, expressed displeasure & requested that they come early the next day. I had people coming to do some work in the garage, the container was in front of the garage. We were told they did not know when it would be picked up. So again, the workers had to go around the empty container all day. The container was finally picked up at 3pm. I phoned the company and again asked for a manager. I expressed my frustration and spoke at length, he eventually agreed to not charge me for the pick up and gave an empty apology. To summarize, they are not a better deal when their service is poor and they do not prorate!
We are deeply sorry for the container placement issues that occurred. We appreciate Rebecca taking the time to speak with a member of our team so we could learn more and process compensation for the issues.

JUST A HEADS UP: BE SURE THEY WILL DELIVER EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE MOVING! The first half of my experience with Pack-Rat was great. The pod was delivered on time, clean, and with enough room for all my belongings. I was moving 2 and a half hours away and had a gap of a few months before I could be in my new house so the pod seemed like the best option. Here I am 3 and a half months later in my new house with only a suitcase full of clothes and an air mattress! When it came time to deliver the pod, Pack Rat said they "do not service my area." I even offered to pay extra for the 2.5 hr drive, but they refused. (I thought they transported these things across the country! What's 2.5 hours?) Now I have to find time on my days off work to drive across the state and unload my pod into Uhauls. I would've been better off putting my furniture into a storage unit!
Also, calling to get it delivered/find out why it wouldn't be delivered/ find out how to get my belongings was a COMPLETE runaround. TERRIBLE customer service. (I don't say this lightly, I'm a very patient person) I was hung up on multiple times, transferred for no reason, and kept on hold for very long periods of time. (20-30 min) It took me over an hour of being transferred/ hung up on just to find out what was going on with the pod. It was almost like if the representative didn't have an answer for me, they just hung up. Hopefully next week my container will be there when I go to unload it with the uhaul. I don't hold much hope though.
We are truly sorry to hear about the issues our customer has experienced. We'd like to learn more and look into this. We can confirm a team member has requested more information in order to investigate and reach out to our customer directly.

Final pick-up date was scheduled over a week in advance… and go figure we get a text the morning of pickup stating they wouldn’t be able to pick it up. VERY unreliable. Esp when moving dates are accepted to be met/have to be out of house by closing date etc… but you have a huge storage container with all your belongings stuck at old location and “there’s nothing they can do about it”. To happen not once, not twice but all THREE times… zero discounts or refunds offered either.

Take a deposit but don't explain what it is for, tack on "fuel fee" randomly (although they do take it off when you point out that wasn't in the quote, they still do it, which is shady). AND you can't locate your container once they pick it up. My items were picked up almost 2 weeks ago, I wonder if they will ever show up...I don't have faith in these people/company at all. Dealing with Pack Rat was a very good experience up until my when me container was supposed to be delivered to my new house. The original drop off on 2/20/24 at my address in IL and then pick up on 2/26/24 went just fine. However, I received a call from pack rat on 2/4/24 stating that my container has been delayed. They told me that the driver that was supposed to drive my container down to Florida bailed out of the job at the very last min. My container was suppose to leave the storage facility in Bartlett IL on 2/27 and I was not notified of this issue until 2/4. It has been over a week and Pack Rat still can't find a driver to drive my container down to my new home in Florida.
How does this company not have a backup plan in place for when this stuff happens? I've called in to the support line for the past 4 days and have been very calm with them as I understand it does no good yelling at a customer service rep for something that is not their fault but there is still no improvement on them finding a driver. I was under the impression that Pack rat moved their own containers then find out that they actually source a 3rd party moving company to do it. How does this company not have a back up plan for when drivers back out last minute or use a handful of 3rd party companies to do this job???
Our container was supposed to arrive at the new address on 2/7/24 and they have no idea now when it will even leave IL to get down to FL. Everything I own is in the container and my wife and I are sitting down here now waiting on a undetermined time of when our belongings will arrive at our new home, this is unacceptable. The only reason why I went with Pack Rat was because of the rate they gave me, at this point I feel like I should have just gone with PODS or a different moving company.

I was also told that I could track the status of my move online and would not receive a phone call when the unit arrived at the destination depot, but it wasn't. I was told it would be a five day transport which was picked up on 12/26. I checked online every day and it always showed Open and told me I could not schedule delivery until it arrived at the depot.
Finally after waiting 11 days I called in and was told, "Yes. Your container arrived." Still online it showed Open, could not schedule delivery. I had it dropped off the following Monday and picked up two days later because they were unable to come back the next day. They still charged me for a whole month of storage and will not pro-rate the unused portion of the month. I was told back in October that they would and it seems convenient that I wasn't notified that my container had arrived when I was still within their precious 5 day grace period. My order was for an 8ft POD to be moved from CA to GA. Delivery of the Pod was delayed from the 10-2 slot to 9:30 PM and communication was poor. Pickup was even worse and took place at 6:30PM instead of the 2-4PM slot after several calls. The Garden Grove facility runs a very poor operation. The corporate people then tried to bully and intimidate me to pay an additional $500 because they said gas prices had gone up. I had to spend over 90 minutes and prove to them that AAA was reporting drop in gas prices from the day I had signed the contract. Each agent reduced that amount by $100 or $200 until I was able to remove all the charges. This has been reported to the California State AG. This is illegal and fraudulent way to charge consumers money illegally.

I started a new job that required relocation from Portland Oregon. The problem was I did not know where I was moving, the company had two possible locations, Spokane Wa or Phx Az. I explained this to the Packrat agent as we set up a long-distance move. We used Phx as the default location since we had to pick one location to create a quote so logically we picked the further location to get the maximum cost for approval from my employer. So the plan was load up one pod and declutter the house. Then put the house on the market and when it sold have the second pod delivered and by then I should know where I am going. I had one pod delivered and loaded it up and I asked to have it stored locally because I still did not know if I was moving to Spokane or Phx. Put the house on the market a month later it sold.
I called Packrat and asked for the second pod to be delivered so I could pack the remaining item in the house. I now know my final destination so I tell the Packrat agent, "I know where I am moving, Spokane Wa so let's set up a delivery date." They ask me for the zip and then proceed to tell me they do not service that area!!! So they had at least two opportunities to tell me, "Hey you keep saying you may move to Spokane but guess what - we don't service Spokane". Nope, no one bothered to check and they blamed me for that, I guess I should know that their operators read from a script and if I don't have them explicitly check with a zip code they carry no blame. So now I have to pay them $500 to have the pod I already loaded brought back to my house so I can unload it. They charged the original drop-off, then pick up to storage, then drop back off so I can unload it.
Also if you like waiting online for 30 minutes to talk to someone this might be the company for you. I am not saying I am totally clean on this but neither are they. Their only concern was covering their own ** and putting all the blame on me. I should have known... Funny thing is I called U-Pack and gave them the same scenario I wanted to see what happened. First thing she did was check both my possible locations. No lie she said and I quote, "first let me check and make sure we service both those areas".
I will never give 1-800-Packrat any of business again and I will certainly not recommend them. I should have checked yelp and consumer affairs before I gave them my business they have horrible reviews and now I know why. Oh and to get the POD back to unload and have them pick up the empty took me hours on the phone to accomplish. These folks are the absolute worse!

First of all, for the price and what is offered, Pack Rat is, by far, the best price around. Now, although the rental agreement is signed and our long distance move is on the calendar, our move is not completed. I will make sure to come back after completion to leave another review for my experience with that part of my move. I have to say we searched high and low for this long distance move and were a little skeptical at the prices that were offered by Pack Rat. Many other moving companies had a ton of hidden fees, so Pack Rat's prices made me that much more skeptical... I came into this transaction with the knowledge that, because of the massive size of this company, some words might get lost in translation, when speaking with multiple representatives.
So I made sure to keep reaching out if something was explained a little differently. I was met each time with consideration and respect and was left a little less anxious after each call. Numerous representatives gave me the same info on delivery/pick up from old address and delivery/pick up from new address. The portal that PackRat makes available to their customers shows the exact final price that was given to me.
There have been no hidden charges that I see so far, and everything appears to be on the up and up. Now, Pack Rat told me that the driver will call before drop off of empty container. I have made the decision to take that day off of work. I DO NOT want to miss that phone call! It was stated to me, CLEARLY, by each representative, that because their bookings are full, the driver will move on to the next delivery if I don't answer that phone call by the 2nd try. Check your portal to make sure they have your phone number listed correctly and and any other #s they can reach you at if for some reason you might not be able to answer the primary #.
To those reading some of the negative reviews, this is the area that APPEARS to be where things could get delayed and/or pricey.... that, accompanied with, changing pickup and delivery dates after you're on their calendar already. Ok folks! Hope my review has helped those looking into long distance moving! I will reach back out mid December to let everyone know how it all concluded.
Elisabeth, Thank you for your review. We're happy to know that we've exceeded your expectations and look forward to continuing to do so!

Company reimbursed me for the damage. I gave them an extra star for quickly handling this.

Our 2 pods were promised for delivery on August 30th, and we waited all day for them to arrive. At 4 pm, I called to see where our pods were and the customer service agent told me that they were still on the schedule, but would be delivered early morning of the 31st. We waited all day, AGAIN, for no pods to show up. We were promised that they would arrive on the 1st of September. One pod showed up, but the driver told us that a fork truck broke down at the distribution center. Why couldn't customer service contact us and tell us there was an issue? We had to wait for 2 extra days for half the order to arrive. When I asked the driver if the second pod was coming that day, he replied that there was only one scheduled on his work order. Add insult to injury, our driveway is on a steep incline and the pod had to be delivered on the yard "for safety".
The driver backed over our wellhead, causing 750 dollars in damage and us to be without drinking water for 24 hours in our new house. The second pod finally showed up the following day, after calling customer service AGAIN, only for them to tell us our job ticket was complete. We had to argue with the agent that half of our stuff was missing, only for them to realize that there actually was another pod on the work order. Every time I had called customer service, they wanted to confirm that they could pick up the pods on the scheduled date. How could I confirm the pick-up date if I didn't even have the pods delivered yet?!?!
I had to reschedule all of the help I had lined up for the move and inconvenience their schedules because Pack Rat couldn't communicate and keep track of our order. I submitted a claim form for the wellhead about 6 weeks ago, and I still have not heard a determination on whether or not they will pay for their damage they caused to my property. I will change my review if I get paid for the damage.

I will say there is partial resolution. I was happy to hear from customer service and they were polite and apologetic for my expierence. They did way the pick up charge which I appreciated. I also asked that they waive the 3rd monthly charge that was applied they day I attempted to schedule a pickup and found out I could not use their service. I did tell them to pick up the unit that day, as it would do me no good for a transfer of my furniture 8 days post closing, but they could not get it sooner.
I felt that as we both knew the day I was charged month 3 the unit would be nothing more than an obstacle in the new owners driveway for over a week they should refund me. Their accounting department disagreed, and denied my request.

Wow Pack Rat…. They are something. When requesting a container, the service was amazing and prompt. I called on a Friday afternoon and they delivered the next morning. I needed a container to begin for a move with an unknown closing date this was in August. Now we are in October. Just after paying my 3rd months’ rent on the container (which was totally fine as it was how long the process took for us) I had now given this company over $700. Finally, we were ready to move, so I called the day I found out our closing date for both the current and new home - unfortunately it was only 5 days into the future. I know it was short notice, but it was something we could not help.
While speaking to a main rep I was told that they had nothing available the Monday we closed on my old home, and in fact nothing until the following Monday. They also informed me nothing was available prior to Monday (if I wanted to quickly pack it up). I was then connected to my local warehouse manager who repeated the same information. He told me I should have called sooner and basically what did I want him to do about it. They were overbooked already. I told him I would empty to container and to just come get it. He said that would still be that Monday at the earliest (10 days in the future). I asked to be connected to billing as I just paid another $243 for this month’s rent for a container I could no longer use. He said sure he would connect me, but they don’t offer refunds. I was upset to say the least and said I would call back as I had no desire to speak to anyone at that point.
I then had to text the new owner and ask if I could keep a useless container in his single car driveway for a week. He was very accommodating and understood this was an unforeseen issue. My wife called back later that day to see if there was anything that could be done (which there wasn’t), but before locking in the date a week after closing (10-23) the main operator said let me see if the local manager can do anything. She tried to reach him, but no answer, so she said she would have him call my wife back. He never did.
Later that night I attempted to just lock in the date (10/23) on their website which was now booked for the day. I now had to select to the next day. I did call the next morning and again spoke to main hub, who said that yes, the earliest date is now 8 days after my closing (12 after initially requesting a pickup). I inquired why the local manager did not call us back. There was not any solid answer. I essentially felt at this point if I was anything less than accepting of what they would offer me I would never get this thing picked up. I locked in the day 8 days post-closing and happily agreed to pay a $52 removal fee. I rented a U-Hall and emptied the container into truck along with the rest of my house and moved on Monday the 16th.
Fast forward to the Tues Oct 24th (Pickup Day) after getting a call the day before confirming a pickup time between 330-5pm I text the new owner and asked if he could not park in his driveway during that time so they could come get it which he was fine with. At 6pm the day of the pickup I again text new owner to make sure all went well. Guess what??? it did not. The Container was still there.
Time for yet another reach out. I called local number, and no one answered. I called main line and the system asked if I wanted a call back when rep was available, so I said yes. 15 minutes later I got a call back at which time I was placed on hold for over 20 mins before a human spoke to me. He could see the notes that said driver ran out of time for a pickup, but nothing about a reschedule. He seemed surprised no one reached out to me. He called local manager and was told it would be picked up by 9am the next day, but I would get a call beforehand. I never received a call, but I was able to confirm from a family member driving by my old home that the container is indeed gone. Kudos to the worst service possible.
Now if you would like to agree with local manager that said, "Like a plane gets booked so do we and you should have called sooner". I would counter with why? They still didn’t come when they were supposed to. If I had changed my closing to the 1st date available for Pack Rat to pick up and drop off my Container (A move 1.8 miles in total distance). If I had asked all parties - buyers, sellers, lawyers, and banks to use the date the storage bin company can move our stuff – (literally their sole function) they still would have failed because they did not come the day they were supposed to.
I would not have had all the essential items I would have needed to sit, sleep, eat, and just live on because it still would have been sitting on the new owner’s driveway. No one called to explain what happened. No one offered any sort of compensation. Honestly, I truly believe if I even raised a complaint, they would still not have picked this thing up. I could not think of a worse company to use, and I recommend any other option available to you it must be better. They are the worst.
We sincerely apologize for the scheduling difficulties and delays our customer encountered. We appreciate Jevon taking the time to speak with a team member so we could discuss the issues that occurred and adjust the charges.

WORST, unprofessional, inconsiderate company, just will try to get in the work order, and latter don’t do as discussed. Do not book them; book someone else. They just wash their hands off after your confirmed order. I have to move next week, and I am paying twice the price now. I booked the 2 containers, one month in advance with Taylor ** with all the details of pick-up and drop-off and where the containers should be placed, and it was completed. 1 day before I get a call from delivery Harrison **, who works in an NJ facility, who was extremely rude and says that the containers cannot be delivered at the discussed location. Next day the guy comes with the containers and leaves, as he cannot drop the containers. Locality team "Sam" is being very insensitive about the situation….And offering me $100 off for this. Just don’t book them …. They will ruin your move.
We are deeply sorry for the placement and communication issues that caused our customer to cancel his move with us. We appreciate Aman taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback so we can use the experience to improve our services going forward.

I scheduled a long distance move from Washington State to Utah. I had to have the pods delivered to friend's house because my driveway and street were on a hill. I scheduled the first pod to be delivered Tuesday Aug 22nd, and for it to be picked up Tuesday Aug 29th. I received a call Tuesday afternoon, saying they had overbooked pickups and wouldn't be able to get to us until Thursday the 30th. I told the operator I needed the pod to be picked as it was at a Neighbor's house, and they were headed out of town for the weekend and the pod was blocking their UTV and trailer. She informed me they could not do it Wednesday, and the soonest it would be picked up Thursday first thing 8AM. Well that didn't happen. The driver showed up at 12:44PM.
The second and third pods went a lot smoother. After getting all 3 pods filled, they were transported to Utah. I scheduled delivery for October 12th. On Oct 11th I called customer service to ask what time I could expect the delivery. I was informed that not every facility gives you a window. I was told I would get call 1 hour before delivery. Well Thursday Oct. 12th 9AM, I hear a truck pull up in front of my house and honk. My husband had to go out and rearrange cars, so the pods could be set in the driveway due to our HOA. While backing the first pod into the driveway the driver hit our tree and took down a pretty large branch.
My husband informed the driver it wasn't a big deal, and the branch was hanging low. We asked the driver when we could expect the 2nd pod. He said he had some stuff to do, and he would be back. Around 2 PM he returned the same way, no call and a honk when he arrived. I then scheduled the pickup of both empty containers for Oct. 16th, by calling customer service. I advised the operator of the no call to let me know when they were coming, and the honking. I asked if he would note my account to please call 1 hour before arrival. 8:45AM Oct. 16 the same driver shows up to pick up the empty pods. The driver backs up and starts to load the pod. As he is bringing the pod back to the truck, the pod gets stuck on a tree branch. It very well could have been pushed up and then it would have been fine. Except the driver showed no regard that the pod was causing the limb to break.
The driver gets the pod on the truck and acts like nothing happened. I asked why he didn't stop and let me move the branch? He proceeded to say, " It's your husband's fault for not being there to help him". I very well could have helped him. The driver then said, "Your husband said it was no big deal to break the tree." I told him it was not a big deal the other day as the branch was hanging low. However, it is a big deal today as now the tree is very bare on one side. The driver proceeded to talk very loud at me. I had HVAC guys at my house and, even they said, "what the heck is this guy think he is doing, and who does he think is talking to a customer like that". It was VERY unprofessional and a very poor example of customer service.
The driver then said "When he returned with my last pod, he was going to set in in the street". This statement made me so mad as we have an HOA and NO parking on my side of the street. I went inside and tried to call customer service. I spent 47 minutes on the phone talking to a representative, and being transferred to a supervisor, that I never talked to. I hung up and called back to spend another 13 minutes on the phone without talking to a supervisor. I called back and 54 min to get the same result. I called back again and spent another 27 min on the phone. This time I told the representative I didn't want to be transferred. She informed she didn't have a supervisor available. She would email them and have someone call me back today.
When the driver showed up at 1:30PM, again with no call. He said nothing to me, put the 3rd pod in the driveway and took the 2nd empty one. I finally received a call from a supervisor at 5:30PM. The supervisor said if I wanted to file a for the broken tree, he could get the paperwork to my landlord as we are renting. He then told me he could compensate me $100 for the situation. This to me seems like an insult. I feel like none of this should have ever happened. I would not recommend Pack Rat for your moving needs, especially the Utah location.
We sincerely apologize for the placement issues and the poor experience our customer had with the driver. A member of our Resolution Team has attempted to reach Kellie to discuss the issues that occurred. We hope to speak with her soon.

On July 31st I had a shipping container delivered to Rio Vista, CA. When I agreed to the contract, it was that my 1st month of storage in Benicia, CA be waived. On August 31st, I had a debit of $312.10 debited from my account, which I assumed to be September's storage rent. On September 29th, I called 1-800-PACK-RAT to schedule a delivery to my new address in GA. I was told that it would be in transit on October 2nd and delivered by October 13th and the empty container will be picked up October 16th. On this call with Supervisor Tammy, I asked on several occasions if I would be responsible for "October rent" and she always replied with "no" except one time when she stated, "You will only be responsible for October rent if the container is returned un-emptied and that charge will be on October 31st!
So it was a huge surprise to me when on October 1st, my debit card was charged $312.10, which I assume to be October rent. I of course called and the response would be absolutely laughable if it wasn't for my frustration of their logic...so these are their "two" explanations that both end with "the payment is valid and will remain."
1st, let me tell you what both parties (1-800-PACK-RAT and myself) can agree on.1. Supervisor Tammy stated that I would only be responsible for October rent if the container was returned un-emptied, and that I asked on several occasions during the phone call that I would not have to pay October rent and Supervisor Tammy assured me I wouldn't. This is not in dispute, as the call was recorded.
2. We both agree this last payment was an October payment...but, I'm beginning to believe, since they take payments out on the last day of the month, it was an August payment and they don't want to fess up on that my 1st month wasn't waived...I don't care, as long as I get my refund!
So the 1st scenario played out like this: My payment on August 31st was for August, and this payment was for September, October will be paid on October 31st if the container comes back un-emptied, so "payment is valid and will remain."
Well, hold on... In my agreement with 1-800-PACK-RAT the 1st month was waived, was that not the case? Was our agreement not held up as per my contract? Hmmmm... So the 2nd scenario played out like this: Container was dropped off on July 31st and the fee was waived until August 30th, and on August 31st you were charged and yes, that was for September rent, the $312.10 just debited from your account was for October 1st - 31st "payment is valid and will remain." WHAT???
Now although I put down their two scenarios...I have three, all of which end with me receiving a refund of $312.10!1. 1-800-PACK-RAT charged me for the 1st month rather than honoring the contract I entered with them and committed a breach of our contract...refund!
2. 1-800-PACK-RAT charged me twice for the month of September...refund!
3. 1-800-PACK_RAT charged me for October which I was assured on a phone call with Supervisor Tammy I would not be unless returned un-emptied...refund!
Now, I may not be seeing something, but the calls are recorded on their part, I filed a dispute with Bank of America, the Better Business Bureau, and Call To Action (local TV channel). I hope this company will do better...soon!
We appreciate our customer taking the time to share her concerns regarding billing with us. After a thorough review, our team has determined that the customer was correctly informed of all payments. We apologize for any confusion that has occurred.

I was five days trying to contact with no response, no answer, no call back in the queue. Once I finally contacted them they added another $499. To the bill just four days prior. Now, I’m not spending that and they don’t negotiate. Here’s the kicker, they are aware in writing and verbal that my entire family’s US birth certificates are in the unit. I clarified this all day long, recorded conversations. They will knowingly and purposefully Sell Our US birth Certificates to the highest bidder. Then ASK the buyer to leave behind personal docs. Yea right, they will sell those documents to terrorists because that’s the only thing worth value in that container. Pack Rat sell US government issued documents to the highest bidder. I called to cancel and the system said the wait was "more than one hour" so I would receive a call back. Over 5 hours later, I answered a call that said it was my callback and told me to hold for an agent. 1 hour and 15 minutes later, the call dropped and I got a text that told me to start over and request a new callback. It’s 2023. We just found out aliens are real. Our last president was just criminally indicted and our current one is very likely 90% on hospice. 500 people made like 300 billion $$ last year alone. We all have an alcohol problem. Food is way too expensive. I just paid $3000 to have a pod sit on a truck and be delivered to my house at a certain time on a certain day because in spite of all those chaotic things I just mentioned, the apartment building I’m living in still expects me to be out of here at a specific time on a specific date and for everything I own to be gone as well. If I have to follow those time constraints, shouldn’t a nationally “functioning” company?
I get it. It’s chaos out there. And my life also feels and reflects that. Especially right now. Because I have one day to get everything out of my apartment and into this giant box and then deep clean everything and then drive 10 hours to reach my halfway point of my moving destination. My partner has leukemia. She is exhausted, I am too. We are moving away to be closer to family during this time. It’s just us, so basically it’s just me. I am pretty light-hearted and easygoing individual but I am so exhausted and this has reduced me to tears.
I have read like 400 one-star reviews this morning so I have some questions while I’m waiting for the “24 hour call center guarantee” to open at 8 am.
1. How many trucks/drivers work for the company?Every one-star review says that “the truck broke down” or “there weren’t enough drivers”. How are you scheduling a pickup or a delivery if you don’t have drivers. Did you know that before scheduling and like assume someone would be hired in time?
2. If not enough drivers, why wasn’t I called at any point to inform me of this?I had the ability to extend my lease by a week if I gave at least 48 hours' notice. That window has closed, where am I supposed to go and where do I put my stuff?
3. Will this issue be resolved?I’m very frustrated I actually am like really poor and literally can’t even afford to figure this out any other way. I don’t know what to do.
Please, like just help resolve this. I will absolutely change my review upon resolution.
We are deeply sorry for the delays and the hardship these issues have caused our customer and her partner during an already difficult time. In my departure state, they delivered a unit with so many holes and tape, and there were still more holes. I complained. I was told that long distance moving got the ones with holes and local people got the nice ones, but we’re the ones paying more money. After my complaint, a nice one was delivered. Everything went smoothly until delivery in the next state. He did call and give me enough time to move my car, etc. However, he couldn’t figure out how to operate the machine. He said it was defective, but it wasn’t defective when he loaded my unit, so it was only defective at my house. He was here forever trying to get it to work. I then scheduled the pick up for my empty unit. I was told he would be here at 5:15 and would give me a call an hour or so before. I suggested sooner so he could use my neighbor's driveway to back up. He arrived at 2:15 with no advanced warning.
Are we supposed to just sit here all day in case the fool doesn’t call like he is supposed to do? He illegally parked on the street and blocked all traffic. And then took him multiple back ups where he trampled all the neighbors’ yards because he would not do what the previous driver had done. He refused. When I called to complain, I was told it would be a two minute wait, but it was in reality over 30 minutes. When I told her about the driver, she said, "Well what do you want me to do about it." I don’t think I would use these people again.
We deeply apologize for the stress and hardship this experience has caused our customer during her recent move. We appreciate Ms. Rhodes taking the time to provide valuable feedback for our team and for speaking with a representative so we could learn more about her experience.

If I had 4 hands, I’d give them 4 thumbs down! Ordered a 16ft storage unit to be delivered to my home. After spending 3 days packing my deceased relative’s belongings and driving 9 hours to unload, I pull up to my home to find the pod was never delivered. I spent hours on the line begging for a delivery time, but no one would help. Unfortunately, the only phone option that allows you to speak with a rep and does not have a long hold time is SALES. Once you explain what’s wrong, they immediately transfer you to SERVICE, which has more than an hour hold time. This was a complete waste of time and added so much more stress and heartache to my family. Honestly THE WORSE business decision I ever made. Save yourself the frustration and choose another provider.

I ordered a storage unit and paid additional money to have it delivered in the morning of the drop off date. The company never showed up until late at night and never contacted me, despite taking my money for the early delivery and scheduling movers I had to pay for all day to load. Then when scheduling my pick up, the customer service line had hours to wait and the call kept dropping. When I finally got through it was the next day, they told me I will be charged for another month almost $300 because I was one day past my anniversary date of drop off. When I explained the issue of not being able to get through, they said that they acknowledge they had hours of wait time and saw that I called but in order for me not to get charged I would have had to wait on the hold until I spoke to someone.
They told me I should have called 7 days in advance which is in the fine print of the contract. This is inaccurate. It says to call days in advance of pickup. Not that their hold times are so long you will need to call days ahead in case you do not get through. Despite the call, the pickup wasn’t scheduled until 12 days later. Then, they missed the pickup date and showed up the next day, 13 days later. They made many mistakes and never rectified it. The rep on the phone was so abrasive in her tone and she said there is “no way I would get a refund for another full month I didn’t use.” I asked her if this happens all the time and she said yes.
There was no consideration or kindness as a paying customer and it feels like they are scamming customers out of money for unused materials with long hold times as they trap people into auto payments with their credit cards. I will never use this service again and I suggest no one does. Other services are much more respectful of their customer's time and money.
We appreciate your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience. Could you please provide your order number so we can look into this further? Thank you!

We had the worst experience having the box picked up for a local to local residential move. They called to confirm pick up at least 30 times and text. We had no problem confirming all of those times… then I spoke to the first delivery driver and he assured me he was 30 min out… Never showed… so pack rat charged us an additional $135. Had to reschedule 4 times… Marcella finally was our rescheduled delivery driver. She was amazing!!! If not for her I would never even consider this company to my worst enemy!!! Pack Rat signed an agreement stating that they would pick up my client's storage containers from their home on the day of closing (7/7). About half way through the day, they informed us that all of their trucks had broken down. Although inconvenient, we understand that things like this happen. After waiting on hold and having to be transferred to multiple departments and supervisors, Pack Rat promised that the pods would be picked up no later than 8am the next morning (Today 7/8).
My client waited outside his home until 11AM this morning waiting for someone to arrive... No one did. After another round of being on hold, they once again promised that they had just one more customer to help before getting to our place, and that the ETA would now be no later than 1PM. At 2PM, there was still no sign of them. Third round of waiting on hold for a supervisor, and apparently there are now 7 clients ahead of us that they plan on helping before getting to my client's house. ETA changed to 8PM tonight, but I'm not confident that they will fulfill this promise. Pack Rat has put my clients in an extremely difficult situation, and they are yet to follow through on the promises they have made. In my 5 years of business I have not experienced such a lack of professionalism and accountability from a moving company. I would highly recommend choosing another company.

My POD was supposed to be delivered on the 29th and I still do not have it and won’t until at least the 5th. No one can tell me anything. I was hung up on by a supervisor, they lied about what was said. I was told I was a “priority” but told they couldn’t do anything about getting it here. No one can get ahold of the facility my POD is at (4 supervisors have tried). Do not use this company unless you want to wait days or even weeks for your stuff. Our pod was supposed to be delivered this coming Saturday. We are moving 12 hours away so we planned to drive through the night with our 2 kids and hired movers to meet us there that morning to help us unload. Well 1-800-PACK-RAT called today to tell us a truck broke down and they will not be able to deliver until Tuesday. We tried to resolve this over the phone with multiple people. They offered $150 discount for the month of storage.. And that there was no way they would be able to deliver earlier than Tuesday no matter what.
We had upper management call us back saying they would deliver Monday instead and refund us $300 which is completely unacceptable. I understand that things happen beyond our control but these companies should be prepared for this. Now we have nowhere to go as our house is already closed and sold - our new house is an empty new build house with nothing to put in it and I have a 2 yr old and 4 yr old as well. They should at least have at least reimbursed me the cost of what it will be to stay in a hotel until they drop off our things 3 days later!! Not to mention that we already had movers booked for Saturday, appointments and deliveries scheduled for the house Monday and Tuesday etc. We paid over $4000 for what? More of a headache than anything.
At drop off the truck driver was supposed to arrive in the afternoon to drop off but did not get there until about 9pm. Then was not able to get the truck/pod up our driveway because they said it was too steep they so had to leave it at the bottom by the mailbox leaving us to walk every piece of furniture, boxes etc to the bottom of our driveway in the road. When they picked up the pod we had already moved out but found out that they pulled our mailbox out of the ground and did not put it back in so when our buyers came for their walkthrough they had taken photos and thought the mailbox was broken and hit by a car. $300 reimbursement is a joke! Our entire move has been a disaster from start to finish. We deserve 1/2 of our money back not to mention the $1k I'm sure that it will cost to book a hotel until our stuff gets dropped off. Will never use or recommend to anyone!!
We are sincerely sorry about the delays and the added stress this caused our customer and her family. We appreciate the Toledos taking the time to speak with a team member. We can confirm that compensation has been processed for the delivery delays. We look forward to finishing this move on a much better note.

Updated on 6/14/2023: I was told my container would be picked again on June 13th, it was not. I received a call the morning of the 14th and told it would be picked up by noon. It is 12:05 still in My driveway! I cannot recommend this company ever! The only resolution I will accept now is for my container picked up today with a full refund of $226.00. I cannot believe a company would not want one of their assets picked up! I’m at a loss on what to do!
Original review: We ordered a container to put our furniture in while new flooring was installed. Everything was completed on may 20 2023. I called to have the unit picked up. Was told next available was June 1 2023 so I agreed. It is now June 10 2023, I have been told everyday that I’m in the schedule but no one shows up! Get this container out of my driveway!
We sincerely apologize for the pick-up delays and any problems this caused you during your remodeling project. Thank you for taking the time to speak with a team member to provide feedback while we worked on a resolution.

Without going through the gory details, just go with Pods Company. We spent hours with this company's customer service making sure we are ordering the right sizes and quantities to move our entire home from our current state to another. After 3 different customer service agents reassured us that what we ordered would be enough for our items and will actually have room in the last pod. The movers that showed up on the first day said we would need one more 8 ft, so we got on the phone immediately with 800 Pack Rack to order one more pod for the following day. We were on hold and transferred to 5 different departments because no one knew how to handle this seemly off-the-wall situation. After being on hold for over 1.45 hrs the lead mover said "Never mind, your pod that is showing up tomorrow will accommodate your items". So we hung up.
Oregon Trail Movers showed the following day to load the last of our things in the 16 ft pod, half way through, they said we will need another pod. I was completely caught off guard, and asked what happened, both movers got aggressive in their tone with us and said it was not their fault and we'll have to find another way. Mind you, I have my new buyers that I supposed to be moving in that evening. People make mistakes, but to get ZERO HELP from 1-800-Pack-Rack, and to deal with UNPROFESSIONAL, AGGRESSIVE, MOVERS - OREGON TRAIL MOVERS, was completely unacceptable.
UNFORTUNATELY, the 800 Pack Rack has our pods in storage, so will have to play this out with them, but please JUST GO WITH Pods Company. They actually told us the correct amount of pods to order which is why we checked and tripled check with 1-800-pack Rack to make sure what they were saying was true. It wasn't and even worse, to try to order another one was out of this world the most frustrating experience I have ever had. If you do choose to chance going with this company, DO NOT USE OREGON TRAIL MOVERS. They left cigarettes butts everywhere and their professionalism throughout was incredibly disappointing. 1-800-Pack Rack is cheaper than Pod company, but there's a very good reason.
We appreciate your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience. Could you please provide your order number so we can look into this further? Thank you!

He literally did not listen and ignored me....very disappointed on where it was dropped. I should have gone with UBox from UHaul. They have small containers and are easier to work with. With PackRat, I was promised something and delivered something else. My container number was **.

I decided to go with Pack Rat for moving and my experience from beginning to end was totally on point. Our Trip was from Florida to NJ, I Made my drop off date, then changed my drop off date with no issues. They called to confirm the day before and also when 10 minutes away. Dropped off on time. Picked up on time with verification calls. Delivered my container in NJ on the day it was arranged. I called to have them pick up my empty container early instead of the scheduled day, they accommodated me no problems. Side Note: Nothing was damaged or moved the container was literally the same as when it left. I do see bad reviews for damage with some companies but it's all about how you pack. We did a great packing job and made sure every item was secured. I would use and recommend them again in a heartbeat.

This was a short term rental during an office renovation. Everything ran smoothly. The only issue I had is that I was using my corporate card (direct bill) and had to contact them each month for a copy of the receipt. There should be a way that a copy of the receipt is automatically emailed when the credit card is charged...many other companies do that.

We needed to do an across-half-the-country move for our son (CA to MO). PackRat's quote came in far less than a popular competitor's, so we made arrangements with them. Since I tend to have very low expectations and am rather pessimistic, particularly when it comes to customer service, I figured something would go wrong somewhere along the line. Amazingly, it did not! They delivered the empty pod when expected, explained how to load it, picked it up on time, delivered it in MO on the day we arranged, and picked up the empty one on its scheduled day.
Everyone to whom we spoke--both office workers and truck drivers--was pleasant, courteous and helpful, even when we needed to change our initial delivery/pickup dates. AND, when we left a missed item in the pod, PackRat even sent someone to check out the pod days later to see if the item was still there and actually followed through by contacting me with the answer (sadly, they did not find it, but it was our fault for missing it). We had an excellent experience with them and were very pleased with their service and customer care. I recommend them!

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY IF YOU EVER WANT TO SEE YOUR ITEMS AGAIN! Don’t be fooled by the great reviews at the corporate company website, GOOGLE YOUR LOCAL FACILITY WHERE YOUR ITEMS WILL BE STORED and you will read similar tales of woe to ours. If you have a time-sensitive move DO NOT use this company as I promise you they will surely delay your move as they did ours while constantly lying to you throughout.
When you reach out initially you’ll talk to a wonderful person at the corporate level who will probably throw you a discount, organize your initial pod drop off and pickup, and things will go smoothly. BUT ONCE they have your items, they will hold onto them to try to charge you more months of storage. The corporate team will miraculously be unable to reach the local facility manager where your items are stored and your life’s mission will now be to call them every day and be put on hold endless times without getting anything resolved. Long wait times, none of the 'escalation managers' have call-back numbers and if your call drops (which I feel like they did to get me off the phone) you'll have to wait 30+ mins to talk to someone again.
We flew to our new home and were supposed to have our items delivered on a Friday. Luckily we called first thing when we landed that day for a status update as they won’t let you know when they delay your delivery. They moved it to the next day without telling us, saying they ‘are normally closed but were doing spillover deliveries as they were too busy Friday to get to ours.’ Then the next day when we were waiting for our pod in our empty house they admitted to blatantly lying to us and said they ‘weren’t able to get in touch with the manager at the local facility.’ So then we had to wait a few more days (mind you we just flew to our new home and have nothing as it is all in the pod) until the next available delivery slot which happened to be Tuesday only because that’s when our pod was supposed to be picked up so there was ‘room in the schedule’.
They assured us we’d be the first delivery on Tuesday and of course, there was a ‘system error’ that removed us from the initial delivery list oh and THEN there was a ‘truck issue’ that caused a further delay or as the 'escalation manager' (who can do nothing to help you besides put you on hold) said ‘a perfect storm of minor inconveniences.’ Once again, for the 5th day in a row I am being told ‘yes your items will be delivered today at a later time’ but we all know that won't happen. The ‘escalation managers’ are absolutely useless and there’s no one higher up to speak to that can help or do anything besides try to call the local managers who seem to ignore corporate. When it comes to compensating you for your troubles, you'll have to beg and all they can do is take off a ~$50 pod pickup charge.
5 days later we STILL don’t have our pod and who knows if we’ll ever get it. I will make it my new personality to ensure no one uses this absolute trash company of liars.

Excellent experience moving my family from West Florida to Southern Colorado. Very fair pricing compared to other companies (not much more expensive than a moving truck). We needed two 16 ft units. Customer service was great, they always answered my calls and were extremely flexible allowing me to bump up my full unit drop off and empty unit pickup dates multiple times since we arrived in Colorado earlier than expected.
The driver in FL was excellent as he had a great attitude and worked with me to reposition the units to where they fit perfectly in the driveway as space was tight on our street. The driver in CO didn’t have a good attitude and didn’t put the units exactly where I wanted them but it worked out fine. The units were well built, made of all steel construction. We had no damaged items upon arrival but a lot of that was due to careful packing of the unit and protection of our items with blankets. Really impressed with the customer service and fair pricing, we will definitely use them again for our next move. We were skeptical given some of the poor reviews, especially since Pack Rat is a sister company of Zippy Shell which has really bad reviews. Zippy shell was cheaper but we went with pack rat and are glad we did. Hope this helps someone.

In all steps of setting up the contract, having timely delivery of the containers at the VA location, and having timely delivery the containers to the new CO location was great. I spoke with several service reps and all were clear with the details and assisted with changing the dates earlier than originally scheduled.
The initial contracted fees were easy to understand and the final expense was exactly as initially agreed upon. There were no discussions of any upcharges. I used two – 16 foot long containers which held more weight than the other leading competitor. The units appeared very strong and the end swing door was very solid. Included with the move was two locks which worked perfectly with the doors. Overall, no disappoints and a solid 5 star experience.

My partner and I were informed that the scheduled delivery date was 12/17, which was confirmed with a several customer service representatives in the following days. I also scheduled movers to come in on 12/18.
Early morning of 12/17, I received a call from a manager at the local facility in Auburn, WA stating that the truck broke down on the way and needed to reschedule the delivery for the following Monday (12/19) between 7:30 am and 8 am. I was taken aback but agreeable to rescheduling after rescheduling the movers. Lo and behold, I didn't hear from anyone including a driver on 12/19 until 8 am. I reached out to the manager and received a text message from him stating that I needed to reach out to the customer service as the truck didn't arrive at the local facility in Auburn?
After cancelling the movers and calling the customer service & the dispatcher department (?), I found out that the container never left the facility in Rochester. I was told that the initial driver backed out on the contract and that they are still trying to find a new driver. As of today (12/27), my partner and I are still without our stuff living day to day with minimal necessity. I called 4 weeks in advance to set up arrangements to have a container dropped off at my home and delivered across country. Everything seemed to be in order and they billed my credit card $500.00 for a deposit..
Today on the date set for the container to be delivered, (3 days before Thanksgiving) they called to tell me they checked "Google Maps" and decided their truck could not maneuver the street that I lived on. I asked them to verify this by sending someone over but they were too busy to do so and had another corporate office call me to repeat the bad news.
They actually suggested for me to rent a U-Haul, pack it with my things and bring it to their location to pack the container. I was very fortunate that when I called PODS, they were actually able to have a container delivered the next day, and after a Black Friday discount were able to make the same arrangements for $1, 100 less. If you want a reputable and dependable container company steer clear of 1-800 PackRat.

My partner & I moved from Massachusetts to California this fall, and we used Pack Rat to ship our things from our old place to our new place. I called several moving container companies and ended up going with Pack Rat because they were able to match the lowest price we were quoted from another company. I had also received a recommendation from a colleague who had used Pack Rat and had a good experience.
Overall I would say we had a good experience with Pack Rat. I was pleased with the communication from customer service -- everyone I spoke to was friendly, and if I called during a busy time, I was glad that I could just receive a call back at a later time so I didn't have to wait on hold forever. The containers were picked up and delivered without issue, and we found the drivers to be very nice as well. There was an instance in which we called Pack Rat to change the direction the doors on the container were facing before the container was dropped off and this change didn't happen, but it ended up being fine for us. Instructions were clear, none of our stuff was damaged in the cross-country trip, and it was easy to call and change when our containers were picked up/dropped off.
The container we had didn't look like it was in the best shape, but it was good enough and all of our stuff was okay so that's what mattered most to us. I would certainly recommend them to anyone else looking for a moving container company that's as inexpensive as possible! I was really happy that they were able to match the lower price of another company -- that was such a big deal to us since we were trying to save as much money as possible.

The lady dropping the container off at our house (once it was ready) also had to maneuver because all of the neighbors had parked on the road that day, but she did amazing!!! Even managed to stay off of the grass. The last guy that picked up our container was really nice and I had explain to him that I wasn't gonna be able to be there but if he had any issues to let me know, and I would reschedule. He was able to get the container and didn't damage our driveway or any other cars around us. All of our stuff was packed pretty tight into the container. We packed like they suggested and didn't have any issues. Any time I had questions or concerns, I called the phone number and was able to get them answered.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We appreciate your business and hope you have a wonderful day!

On my login site, you can select payment history but it says not available and you need to call the 800 number. I made repeated phone calls and an e-mail requesting an invoice for my records. I was told an invoice would be sent but I have never received one. This should be a simple fix because there is a place in your login site for payment history. I finally gave up trying to get my invoice. Very sloppy business. The order noted that the pod would be delivered with the doors facing the truck cab but it arrived the opposite way and it made it less convenient for us.
We deeply apologize for the difficulty our customer had with getting his requested invoice and for the issues with the container placement. A team member reached out to Marvin to ensure he received the itemized invoice and discussed the issues. We appreciate him taking the time to speak with us and provide us with valuable feedback.

I paid for transportation and monthly storage for ~9 months. During that time, Packrat CHANGED my lock (we are provided a padlock, accessible only to us) without notice, explanation, or permission. This was discovered only after realizing our key did not fit - and I noticed in a photo I took to capture the unit #, that the lock was in a different location than before. Needless to say, it is unsettling & disturbing that our lock was changed in such a discreet way without notice.
Despite contacting and providing photo evidence, Packrat did not fully investigate outside of a couple quick calls to the warehouse, did not acknowledge, much less take responsibility for what happened, or provide any explanation. There was allegedly “nothing” they could do and the “max they could” do is reimburse me for a locksmith - which they followed-up on. I will note that the rep was elusive and combative in approach.
I ultimately paid for a locksmith to come out to open the lock myself. I noticed some items were in different locations than before, as well as grayish gravel/dirt(?) on items not there before, and at least one item dented & scratched w/ said grayish whatever it is. I’d like to know what happened more than “we don’t know”, acknowledgement of the situation, and remedy for failure to provide the service paid for: secure transport & storage, access to my unit which was unavailable until locksmith, and without my unit essentially be accessible to unknown parties for an unknown length of time over 9 months.

I called 1-800-Packrat on 08-17-22 to get a quote. My son is moving from Fl. to Boston for college. The rep said they "want my business" and met the quote I received from PODS ($2250.00). I booked the move informing her that the pickup was from a home with a driveway, but asked how the delivery in Boston, a major city with parallel parking would work. She said I needed a permit from the city of Boston for 2 parking spaces to allow the 8 foot container to be delivered. When I called the city, they said this must be done in person. I had to work with "Permit Pullers" paying a total of $260 for a 2 parking space permit for 48 hours: 09-02-22 - 09-03-22. I called packrat on delivery day 09-02-22 since I heard nothing and was given a time frame of 11:45am - 3:45pm. At 5:23pm, I was texted that there was a break-down of a truck and my delivery would be "first thing the next morning".
On 09-03-22 I called to get a delivery time and was told 3-5 pm- NOT the morning. At 2pm the driver called and at 3pm he arrived on the wrong side of the street yelling out the window "That's not enough space. You need 4 car lengths. You have to go to the warehouse to get your stuff". Then he left. I promptly called 1-800-PACKRAT and spoke with Melody who would call me back. At 5:45pm, I received a voicemail from Carlos who said, "They do need 4 spaces to park" also stating I could go to the warehouse to pick it up myself Tuesday.
I returned the call, and spoke with Stephanie (Escalations) suggesting I go to the permit office on Tuesday 09-06-22 to try for a 4 space permit. I had a flight booked to leave Boston on 09-04-22. Ultimately I had to pay for the hotel to extend my stay 3 days, rent a U-Haul van, and drive 60 miles to retrieve my belongings (while also getting hit by a semi). Through these 4 days they called me once and made NO effort to work with me or take any responsibility for their mistake. I was only reimbursed for the unused permit $260. Nightmare is too weak of a word.
We appreciate our customer providing additional information and feedback regarding her recent move. We can confirm that a member of our Upper Management team has reached out to discuss the situation. We hope to hear back from Ms. Madigan soon.

They showed up a day late to drop off the pod, which wasn't a big deal at the time, but everything they touch has been exclusively unreliable. We went with their partnered moving company, HireAHelper, and our movers called the morning of asking us to cancel as they couldn't make it and didn't want to pay the late fee themselves. Customer service was trying to pass us off to companies at 2-3x the quoted rate until we did it ourselves. After that, the hire a help crew at the destination cancelled on us a week out, customer service again tried to pass us off for far more expensive crews, and we put our foot down and said absolutely not.
Now, it's the day we were expecting our Pack Rat container to arrive, and this morning we get texted that the container won't be able to make it at all today, but might be here Tuesday. Meanwhile, we're out for our parking spot for the pod, a couple hours driving to and from city hall for permits, and looking at a pile of fees from the moving crew. This experience has been awful, I wish we had just done it ourselves.

When I first got a quote from 1-800 Pack Rat, I thought "Wow" these guys do the same thing as Pods but at a more reasonable price. You definitely get what you pay for. I scheduled the drop off and pick up dates of my containers almost 2 months in advance to make sure I was on the calendar. All 3 of my containers showed up a day late shortening the already short time to load. Apparently there was no record of the third container even showing up at my house so nobody showed up to pick it up.
After calling multiple times to alert them that the container was at my house, they finally agreed to pick it up almost 10 days after the scheduled date. When I asked them what they were planning on picking up, they had no idea. They didn't know the container number (and couldn't find it in their system even after I told them the number) or how it got to my house. I was told that my complaints about these delays, confusion and numerous calls would be compensated. No call back, no compensation, no communication.
After making a decision to change the move from a long distance move to a local move, I've been on the phone multiple times trying to make sure the billing is adjusted. Each time I call (and there were quite a few times), I was told the bill would be corrected and the move adjusted to reflect the local move. Nothing ever was changed and nobody followed-up even though I was assured that somebody would call within 24 hours. I couldn't even get a solid number for the cost of the local move. I talked to a few people on my last call and received different numbers with zero explanation from each of them. I was told my move had excess mileage fees but nobody could tell me what they were in excess of. Nothing is ever in writing and the "Quote" is just an general estimate at best. An estimate that only can get bigger, never smaller. Once they have your stuff, they feel like they can do anything.
Service is questionable. Communication is limited and nobody seems to know or care what anyone else in the company has said or done. Customer service is basically non-existent and their pricing is highly suspect at best. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. The hours spent on the phone (LOTS of hours) are not worth the trouble. I gave 1 star today because that was the lowest choice available. They certainly don't deserve that high of a score.

*Make sure you put an Apple tag or another geo location tracker with your stuff so you know where it is. They will not tell you with any accuracy or honesty. And only the dispatch manager knows what’s going on so make sure you ask for them if you want to know where your stuff is. I had no problems ordering for a cross country move with them. They even dropped off the container and provided good communications until after they picked it up. The problem was once they had my container and were supposed to transport it.
They waited 19 days from the time they picked it up to begin to ship it. Which is one day from the time they were supposed to deliver it. I had been calling asking why it had not moved (5 times) prior to it shipping. Each time they said it’s on schedule and not to worry even though no one checked on it. 7days before it shipped, I calculated it was impossible for my container to arrive on time (11hrs driving limit per day which is approximately 600-650 miles and a day for transfer to local service for delivery). I called and they agreed and revised the date by adding an additional 8 days to the delivery time. 8 days later and it’s still not here. I call but there’s no urgency in their response. They keep telling me they’re sorry but it happens. It’s the busy season. The truck broke down (really). The carrier never got scheduled. Hard to believe. The family is suffering and stressed out. No idea how much longer it’ll take them to deliver.

For days our belongings whereabouts were totally unknown to not only us, but also to 1800PackRat who we erroneously trusted, and paid over $4000 to deliver to us. When our delivery date was pushed back they actually lied to us, and blamed us! Saying they tried to reach us for delivery but because we didn’t answer our phones our delivery date was pushed back (strange since they even tell you that you don't need to be there for delivery).
Days later we found out the truth; our household items were still over 1700 miles away from their delivery destination, sitting in Virginia where they couldn’t find a driver! But nobody knew this including this company for a few days!!! It was one thing after another, after another. There were many frustrating conversations, with Customer Service reps who had no idea what they were talking about, (other than a few farther up the chain of command) until we finally had our belongings delivered albeit 10 days late! The stress and anxiety about the whereabouts of our belongings were worth far more than the amount they "compensated" us for the delay.
On a side note, there is a hidden cost they include that’s called a “Repositioning Fee”. You find out about it once you have been billed. However, if you contact them, they’ll refund at least some of it. Hmmm? Seems to me they are prepared for the push back on this cost and are quick to “make it right”. I have no idea about any of 1800PackRat’s competition but these guys…You’ve been warned!

My wife and I were ready to give 1-800-Pack-Rat a 5 star rating, until we realized we were apparently being deceived by what we were charged for our Pod move. We recently moved from San Diego to Denver and it went off without any issues... We were quite happy. We rented a 16 foot Pod, and it was delivered and picked up in San Diego on schedule, and delivered and picked up on schedule in Denver. The issue is what we were charged for the move. The first charge to show up on our credit card was $500, which when we called 1-800-Pack-Rat, we're told that was a Pod damage deposit, and that we would either get that back when the Pod was picked up at our final destination, or be given credit in our final charges. Keep in mind we were not told about any damage deposit when we were given our original move estimate.
We then saw two more charges on our credit card, and when these two charges were added together they added up to be close to our original estimate we were given, so we thought we would also see $500 credit on our credit card since the Pod was picked up and everything seemed good. After several days and no damage deposit credit showed up, we called and then we're told the $500 was in addition to the other charges and was not a deposit but part of the move costs. Very deceptive and misleading to say the least... Either their estimates are light to the tune of $500 to get our business, or we were lied to. We will be fighting this with our credit card company. Too bad... since everything else was really good about the service.
We apologize for the billing issues that occurred during our customer's move. We appreciate Ms. David taking the time to speak with a team member so we could go over the charges.

This is my first time working with 1-800 Pack Rat and I'm completely disappointed. The experience so far has me question their reliability and partnership for completing our cross-country move. We secured two 16-ft containers to be delivered on different dates, the first container was delivered as promised. We loaded quickly to meet a pre-scheduled and confirmed 8/8 pickup date to prevent our items from sitting out in uncontrolled temps and have the container removed before professional listing photos were taken. The container is still here sitting in the weather and photos are being taken today.
I phoned the company every day and every day I've received a promise of the container would be picked up and even given a pickup window last night. I've not heard anything from them and today my online account shows that the pickup date has been rescheduled without my knowledge or agreement. The mismanagement of expectations and lack of communication and follow-through is unacceptable. We could have and would have chosen another provider to move cross country if we would've known this seems to be an ongoing issue with the company. Now, how are we supposed to trust the second container will be delivered and picked up as promised, especially when there are even more time constraints and contractual obligations for moving out of the house? I can only hope they make the current situation right and do better with our next container.
We apologize for the pick-up delays and any issues this caused our customer as they had photos taken of their home. A team member has spoken with Lisa to discuss the delays. We appreciate the feedback, and we look forward to the remainder of the move going smoothly.

I want to give credit where credit is due. Although the customer service team via their direct phone number provided poor service, each of the Resolution Team members has been remarkable. Their communication remained clear, concise, and they followed through with each action that they presented. The resolution team made sure the shipping container was dropped off and picked up at the updated designated times as well as provided a confirmation message prior to their arrival times. Delays are a natural part of any business, especially during our current climate with a national worker shortage. Customer service and communication are even more essential now. I am grateful to the Resolution Team for all of their help in this process. Therefore, I will revise my review score from a 1/5 to a 3/5.

I could go on for hours but I will make this brief: <1> I paid $50 for early morning delivery, driver showed up at 2:45 (14:45) with no call beforehand or heads up email that they were going to be late. Customer service we not helpful but was able to speak with a supervisor to have the $50 refunds. <2> My container pickup for delivery was delayed on canceled 5 times without any communication on 3/5 of the incidents. <3> Drop off to new location was delayed with very poor customer service.... Currently still waiting for my container to be delivered. Would not recommend this company (1-800-PACK-RAT) and I'm skeptical about their sister company (Zippy Shell) since they use a lot of the same facilities (and possibly staff).

I have been trying to figure out how to best review this service and not sound like a crazy person but unfortunately it was far below my expectations and extremely disappointed in how they operate and treat their customers. 1st- the sign up process for my move was fine & easy, no issues at all. However the movers they recommended to hire through their service was not up to par, rushed the whole time and damaged multiple walls that I had to repair before we closed.
2nd: They raised my price during the 3 months I had my container stored at the facility, which is fine. I just wish they notified us other then 1 email and it was not just a couple dollars but a decent increase. 3: Unfortunately this is where it gets crazy: I requested warehouse access to get things out of my pod two times during its time at the facility. I was remarkably shocked how un-gentle they are in moving these pods (I remember saying to myself; I really hope my stuff is safe).
4: Time to move into our new home; when I originally called in they said you can call 7-10 days in advance to get your pod delivered; no problem. So when I did they told me 3 week wait.. And no other option. So I had to take it upon myself to hire a moving company and ask Packrat to set up warehouse access to empty it. I was told that it will be ready and outside for 9AM. Upon getting to the facility with our movers the pod was nowhere to be found and the warehouse managers told me it wouldn’t be ready until 12 PM!! Now remember I’m getting billed by the hour for these movers.
I explained I called corporate over a week ago and they ensured me it would be ready and policy is that the containers that need access are all out and ready to open by 9AM (I even called in 2 days prior to confirm). The managers said that’s incorrect and corporate should not have told me that, and said they won’t be pressured into rushing and that it’s on me.. Like some customer service .. So I incurred additional 300 dollars in charges for the movers and secondly they were very upset as well as they missed their second move they had scheduled.
Now.. I called corporate back to complain and they were shocked the managers told me that and said they lied to me and that corporate policy and all facilities must follow it and that container should have been ready for me by 9AM; and they would investigate with the facility. They said they would reimburse me for the money lost and that took a month!
Now, we finally are emptying the pod and notice damages to much of our belongings including our 800 dollar TV! Totally cracked and shattered… and damages to our dinning room table and rips in our leather dinning room chairs, I thought to myself.. I knew the way they handle those containers in the warehouse was insane.
I opened up a claim to get a reimbursement for our TV as I bought the insurance; and they said normal shifting isn’t covered! I ensured them this could not be from normal shifting.. So the claim is submitted and they said it will take 90-120 days just to get a response!!! I mean this isn’t a 30 dollar picture. It’s our main living room 800 dollar TV!
I would stay away from this company; I thought I was saving by not using PODS; but with all of this inconvenience and price increase I was wrong. Moving forward; I think PODS is the way to go. I just wanted to share my experience as it was very upsetting for my wife and I moving into a new home especially in this current housing market. My wife and I are purchasing a rental property with friends and will look into other options for this move.

My wife and I were moving 3 hours away for a job relocation. Instead of hiring movers, I went with Pack-Rat. If I could give this company zero stars, I would. It was agreed that 2-16 ft containers would be dropped off in which pack rat makes you pay before the containers are delivered. One was dropped off a couple of weeks prior to the 2nd container as our driveway couldn't accommodate two containers. Once the 1st was picked up, the date for the 2nd container to be dropped off kept changing because they didn't show up on the scheduled day. Once the 2nd container was dropped off, a pick up date was established. However, this date was delayed because they wouldn't show up after my wife sat home all day waiting for them. Somehow they failed to realize or care that we work on a schedule and we have full time jobs and when they don't show up as they say they will, we waste pay.
I insisted the 2nd container had to be picked up because I was moving on the 16th and was starting my new job 3 hours away on the 18th. They finally picked it up on the 15th. Never did they tell us that that they would not deliver our two containers to our new home 3 hours away for 2 weeks after the final pick up until it was time to schedule our container drop off. Well, our two week and 3 day delivery date was upon us yesterday, August 1st. Of course my wife sat here all day waiting and they never showed. When I got home from work at 4pm, I had to call them and was told by the 1st customer service agent "she was putting in an urgent email to get our containers delivered". However, I heard nothing back.
I called them a second time with my wife on speaker phone and was given some excuse that it is delayed with no real reason why. The customer service agent stated That "it could come tonight, tomorrow or at some point", she didn't know. After pressing her for more information than that, she said she could see our containers were not in the "Local warehouse". Do you think anyone from the company would have notified us before my wife waited all day? After all, why wouldn't they notify us when they realized they were not going to be delivered? Instead of me having to nag the customer service rep to death on the phone??
We had un-loaders from another moving company scheduled and paid for to arrive today to unload our containers since we thought we were getting our containers yesterday. I had to call the company and cancel them. Thankfully, they told me they were not going to charge me the normal cancellation fee because they too have had issues with 1-800- Pack- Rat. Finally, early evening we got a text message on the phone stating they cannot come until Aug 5th. In the meantime, we have spent the past few weeks without our belongings, clothes or furniture (besides what we could fit into our car along with our 2 large dogs because they already had taken everything else). This company is the most unreliable company I have ever dealt with. If I could have a re-do, I never would have used Pack Rat. From what I am reading so many others are having the same rotten experience from this horrible company.
We sincerely apologize for the added stress and hardship that was caused by unexpected rescheduling and delays on our end. We can confirm that a team member has reached out to Mr. Miguel to discuss the issues and to determine an appropriate amount of compensation. We look forward to finishing his move on a more positive note.

I cannot believe how difficult this process was and how incapable of communication/ operations the entire 1-800-PackRat organization is. Because it was an extensive two months of issues, I listed out all of the problems we occurred. Timeline of Grievances: 5/27- First box was supposed to be picked up and our second container was supposed to be dropped off for loading. I waited at the house the entire day, spent 2.5 hours waiting for customer service rep, only to be told they don’t have direct access to the regional warehouses. Once I realized it was not coming, I called to cancel our movers for the morning. With late cancellation, I have to pay full price of movers, $320.
5/28- Waiting at our house for the container, still not given any contact to get the container. My husband and I drive 45 minutes each way to the Dallas warehouse and ask to speak with someone. Told that we will get our container immediately. We go back to our house and wait four hours, missing our going-away party our friends threw for us. My husband drives back 45 minutes to speak to someone. Container is finally delivered to our home with my husband following behind to make sure we got it.
6/2- Pick up second container from house, told our containers would be in Cleveland (final destination) for us to access by July 1. 6/3- Charged ‘monthly rent’ ($600) on our containers even though we were sold our first month of storage free. I call to ask for a billing fix, and customer service tells me that I have to wait for the boxes to be delivered to the final destination before any billing disputes are handled. 6/12- Based on how the pick-up went, we call to make sure that PackRat knows where our boxes are and have started the move to Cleveland. They have not left the Dallas warehouse, but after speaking with customer service reps, we are ensured that they are leaving now and will be in Cleveland for us to access on July 8th and move-in on July 15th.
7/2- Charged second month of rent for the containers. 7/7- I call customer service to request access to our containers for July 8th. Told by customer service that the containers are still in Dallas. The Dallas warehouse forgot to confirm our container pick-up but she will change this immediately and rush-deliver the containers. 7/8- Call again because I have no faith in PackRat, to be told that the customer service rep was not able to update the status of the containers. I speak with three different people that tell me July 15th delivery can no longer be met, but they can be there by July 18th. 7/10- Call again because nothing has changed on the portal, to be told the reason our containers STILL haven’t left Dallas is because we weren’t charged yet for the moving fees. Hit with $4,500 charge and told the containers will be there by July 18th.
7/11- Call again, NO MOVEMENT ON CONTAINERS. My mother drives an hour each way to the Dallas warehouse to speak with someone because there ‘isn’t a direct line to the regional warehouses from customer service’. She speaks with someone and gets his personal number and we are ensured that the containers will be on a vehicle this week. She waits for his response, no communication. 7/12- My mom drives another hour each way to the Dallas Warehouse and brings A BOTTLE OF WINE, hoping that she can get some movement. She waits all day at the warehouse until the containers are placed on a flat bed truck.
7/15- Original delivery date, move into our new home with no belongings, spend $500 on air mattress & essentials to get us through the weekend. 7/18- Containers are delivered, and we are told they won’t be able to be retrieved until July 31st, even though our original pick up date was July 18th. 7/28- Empty containers sit in our driveway until July 28th, as we incur a $200 fine from our HOA. 8/1- Spend an hour on the phone with customer service escalations. Was offered $200 for being a ‘dissatisfied customer’. On hold waiting to speak with someone else.
We are deeply sorry for the delays and rescheduling our customer experienced throughout her move. We appreciate Kathryn speaking with a team member so we could gain further insight and determine the appropriate compensation for the issues that occurred.

A company who cancels your shipment the same day and change the pickup date without letting you know !! I am definitely out of words and ‘’beyond disappointed’’ is not enough to describe what this company put my family through. We are moving crosscountry with a newborn, a toddler, and two dogs. We figured that it would be easier to have our household goods picked up and shipped to our next home vs. trying to do everything ourselves and drive 3000 miles with a 3-bedroom worth of furnitures. We scheduled our moved ahead of time so that, there is a room for any possible changes. Little did we know, this company has the audacity to promise us that the driver is on the way… I called 4 times (6am, 9am, 1pm and 4pm) to verify during the service date.
My last phonecall was 6pm and the representative told me that the service date was changed to next month and she has no idea why it was changed. I got forwarded to another escalation representative and the guy told me, they had to cancel 5 services for 5 families the same day due to lack of drivers and vehicle shortage and they kept apologizing why they did not inform me at all! (Basically, they lied to me telling me that the driver is on the way and my family waited the entire day for nothing.) What happened next? We are stuck, the house is sold, and I don't know what to do with my household with 2 very young children and 2 dogs.
After 24hours of not sleeping and trying to figure everything out, we end up renting a small Penske truck because that's the only thing available the last minute for a one-way drop off, all our household did not fit and we had to get rid of a lot ! We drove 3000miles with whatever we can take with us and it was the worst experience possible that this company had put us through. If there was 5 family who suffered that day, I wonder how many more families were affected throughout the month, perhaps the whole year? ***This company deserves a class A lawsuit and I wish this review can be addressed and taken seriously.***
We are deeply sorry for the hardship that was caused due to delays on our end. We appreciate our customer bringing these issues to our attention. A team member has made multiple attempts to reach out and discuss the situation. We look forward to speaking with Jessie soon.

Updated on 08/03/2022: So I see that my original post has a “ Resolution in Progress” note but nothing is resolved. I was originally offered $400 in compensation and my response was “So you are not going to charge me the $400 monthly storage fee that you want to collect for the 30 day wait that I paid $1,525 on 6/25 but did not get my container until 7/25?” So I get an agent that saw the posts on this site and she ups the offer for $100 more, big deal! What did my $1,525 pay for?I’d like a receipt with details but that’s not available? I’ve paid the $400 monthly storage charge from February every month so I assume the $1,525 was for the facility transfer (out-of-the-way) and the delivery to my new home. No idea because no details were sent.
SOoo today I get a call from a sweet sounding woman who wants to resolve the (bad) situation with additional compensation and she ups the anté another $100? I refuse the offer again and I said “$400 or even $500 is not make me any happier, I’ll take my chances in court and get ALL of my money back.” She then proceeds to tell me that I have every right to seek legal help (yeah, I think I already know that). So disgusted with everything this SCAM company has done to me and many others. There is NO Resolution in Progress from 1-800-Pack-Rat. BTW I asked when will empty container be picked up since it’s been here waiting since 7/27 and today is 8/03 and her response is “tomorrow“. That Orphan Annie song pops up in my head again “Tomorrow, tomorrow!".
Updated on 07/26/2022: Soooo, I’ve expressed my displeasure and total disappointment with 1-800-Pack-Rat on this page along with other social media outlets. No e-mails from Customer Service over the weekend and as of last Friday when CS said they were not sure what was going on with the facility in this area (so IF Customer Service doesn’t know what’s going on how am I supposed to know where and when my container will be delivered?)
Like I said before, trying since mid-June to get my container to my new address 81 miles from home, nothing but delays and ** from 1-800-Pack-Rat. No response from Customer Service when I send an e-mail and say “What lame excuse will I hear next time?” CS said that the facility has called my cell and left a voicemail neither which is factual. (I send screenshots of my call log.) No word all weekend and I was promised a delivery in early July then after the 4th by the 8th then the 21st then “tomorrow, tomorrow" (I could hear that Orphan Annie song).
Today July 25th I get a from the driver and he is on his way. Container arrives finally and I don’t blame the driver but I voice my displeasure and he says “I hear it all the time and I don’t know what Customer Service does.” The driver was great and he position the container perfectly. I sign the form and write in the comments section. I get a call from 1-800-Pack-Rat offering me a $400 discount. At this point with so many glitches, I would like a 100% discount for the aggravation but I’m a reasonable man and I understand that the company has expenses so I ask for a 50% return on my $3k but he is not authorized to go that high.
I feel sorry for the guy since he’s just a cog in the sticky wheel and I reject that offer. I’ll take my chances in small claims court and I will continue to try to recover some of my losses and give this company the bad press it deserves. Coming to this page I now realize that I am not the only one affected by the inept and unreliable services of 1-800-Pack-Rat. If they were only truthful I might not be as outraged but that’s how it panned out. Buyer Beware and make sure to get an accurate quote on monthly storage, possible facility transfers (which will greatly increase price) and exact dates or you’ll end up like me. I put my faith in this company to stick by their mission statement of “#1 in customer satisfaction” and they failed me BIG TIME!
Original Review: I wish I could give this company a MINUS 5 stars. That’s how bad they are. I could go into all the details but there are a lot. I thought that I was making the right decision rather than hiring a mover to have 4 men place my belongings in a storage facility then pay those movers again plus the cost of the storage. I-800-Pack Rat delivers a 16’ container that you can fill yourself at your pace and then they pick it up and store it at $400 per month which seemed like a better alternative than the typical moving company. Boy was I wrong! I packed the unit in late February and finally found a home in mid May so $1,200 in storage is still less than 4 movers x 2 =$2,400 plus $125-$200 per month storage.
I would call 1-800-PackRat to get an estimate for if I moved to Dover DE and I was quoted that it would be considered a Local Move (70-80 miles). I call several times just to make sure and I was happy with the price (so far). Then when I decided to move to Lehighton PA 81 miles I was told that it was now considered to be a long distance move and to top it off my container could not be delivered directly to my new home but would have to be transferred by a trucking company (?) to another Pack Rat facility in Pottsville PA taking my container 40 miles out of the way and causing a 7 business day delay (11 days due to 4th of July weekend).
Not much help with agents so I called customer service and things got progressively worse. CS said my container would arrive after the 4th but not at my home but to the out-of-the-way facility and then another 7 business days? New date 7/21 but NOooo! 7/23 and no call and no container in sight? CS stated that she does not know what’s going on either? E-mails go unanswered, phone calls to main number have me on hold for 40 mins and using the “call back” never happens. CS said that I was called and left a voice mail so I sent a screenshot of my call log to show no one from 1-800-Pack Rat called or left a voicemail! I was charged not $300 but $1,500 for the facility transfer plus whatever it will cost to finally get it to my home if that ever happens.
Stay clear of this SCAM company. There was no conversation about possible facility transfers and delays in all of the phone calls that I made. One agent Eve said “This does not make sense that they would go out of the way when your home is just another 7 miles so they could just transport it directly to your home.” CS said all agents that I talked to should be trained to know all the details and all conversations are recorded. I responded “well I hope you can access those recordings so you can hear what I was told” but of course no reply. Now e-mails to CS go unanswered? This entire experience with 1-800-Pack Rat is a sick joke. Don’t make the mistake I made and look at all the other horrible reviews.
We are deeply sorry for the lengthy delays and poor service our customer encountered during his move. It is always our goal to provide a seamless and stress-free move, and we clearly missed the mark here. We appreciate Mr. Lupo speaking with a team member as we worked diligently to get the containers delivered. We can also confirm that compensation for the delays has been processed.

I have just about had it dealing with this company and would them give zero stars if I could. Absolutely awful customer service and no follow through. I booked a long distance move with this company early June to transport my belongings from Arizona to Florida. Our container was dropped off and picked up in AZ late June and delivered to FL mid June. No only was the container delivered to us late, but it has yet to be picked up. It was scheduled to be picked up on 7/11/22 and for some reason, it is still sitting in my yard as of 7/22/22. I have contacted this company 6 times in the last week and a half via phone and spoken to various reps who all tell me the same thing-- they will send an email to the warehouse and someone will call me. Well, imagine that, no one has called. The 16 ft container is sitting on ungraded and rough land and legitimately sinking into the sanded lot.
I have expressed my concern with them, as well as informed them we have contractors scheduled to come grade and clear our land on 7/25/22. This work has been scheduled since before moving and I have stressed the importance of the container being taken off the premises immediately. I have already paid deposits for this work to be done and cannot afford to cancel and reschedule months out because 1-800-PACKRAT cannot do their job. I contacted every department I could including the warehouse manager directly and nothing has been resolved. This company is horrible and cannot keep to their route schedules, or choose to only prioritize those in major city areas. Not expecting a resolution anytime soon as they are clearly already too incompetent. Completely unsatisfied!
We apologize for the pickup delays and the problems this has caused our customer in her new home. We can confirm that a team member has reached out to provide an earlier pickup date. We appreciate the feedback as we work to create a stronger customer experience.

Cherry Hill location has to be the worst facility to deal with. I STILL HAVE A CONTAINER SITTING ON MY PROPERTY!!! It was supposed to be picked up July 12th! I called every day and was promised it would be picked up. Here it is Monday July 18 and I went back online to check it, it says it's open to schedule but nothing is available until the 26th..?? The customer service ladies try and help but no one at the Cherry Hill location ever answers the phone. The property where the container is sitting is being settled this week and all of our stuff is still there. C'mon Packrat, pick up my container today!
We are deeply sorry for the pickup delays and the stress this caused. We appreciate Ms. Lisa taking the time to speak with a team member as we worked to get this resolved. We look forward to completing the rest of the move on a more positive note.

Company provided quote for move to an adjoining state. It seemed reasonable so contract with payment information was signed electronically. Received a phone call later that same day from Brian who wanted payment information over the phone. He stated he did not have access to the contract. When I refused to provide it over the phone, he miraculously found it in the system. Clearly stated to customer service that the pod was to be placed on the right side of the driveway if you are facing the house. Driver called prior to delivery and asked where to place pod. I told him customer service was told right side of driveway and he stated “customer service doesn’t tell us anything”. He proceeded to place it on the left side, making it difficult to get our truck in and out of the drive.
Pod was to be picked up July 12. I called customer service that day to verify pickup and was told by Matthew that they were too busy to pick it up that day so they would try to get it in a couple of days. And that I would have to be charged another month’s rent. I called the billing department to make sure I wasn’t being charged the extra month and was assured I wouldn’t be. Pod was picked up the next day and my bank account was charged the final amount, which was 20% more than the estimated cost. I called billing again, and they couldn’t explain the difference so they transferred me to escalation, who could not help so they transferred me to customer service, who said they didn’t have anything to do with billing.
I called another number (1-877-774-1537) and got through to Jessica in billing. She reviewed the account and agreed I was overcharged so a refund was supposed to be issued for $175.12. A few days later, instead of the refund, I am charged another $57.27. I called the billing office and was told the wait was over an hour and they would call me back. After waiting 2 hours, I called again and got the same message. Finally I got a call back and the recording said to hold for a representative. After holding for 20 minutes, the representative answered and asked for my phone number. As I was giving it to her, a recording came on saying the representative had hung up.
We are truly sorry for the poor communication, placement issues, and billing errors our customer experienced. A team member has made multiple attempts to reach Ms. Deborah to discuss the problems she encountered. We can confirm that the refund has been processed.

I hired Packrat to help with my family's move from Arizona to Pennsylvania (Pa). The process was suppose to be simple: drop off container in Phoenix on June 2nd, pick up container in Phoenix on June 6th, drop off container in PA on June 15th, and then pick up container on June 20th.
What did Packrat do as promised? 1) Packrat did drop off the container on June 2nd. 2) Still waiting for #2.
What did Packrat NOT do? 1) On June 5th I was informed that I wouldn't get my delivery in PA until early / mid-July. Only after I spoke with a CS rep for 3 hours and demanded that the quality department listen to my recorded sales call, did Packrat realize I did schedule a delivery for Jun 15th and paid for expedited shipping. 2) Packrat did not deliver my container on June 15th (Packrat delivered my container on June 18th, again after 3-4 hours waiting on hold and trying to talk to a CS agent. 3) Packrat did not pick up the container on June 20th. 4) Packrat did not pick up the container on July 6th (new date for pick up). 5) It is currently July 11, and Pack has still not picked up the large storage container in front of the garage. Over the past 4-5 days, I get a text each day from Packrat that says:
"Hello-This is Packrat. We are experiencing a major delay still due to having one truck and one driver with a packed schedule, as we are still playing catch-up. I wanted to notify you that we will be picking up your unit on, 7/6 (then 7/8, then 7/9, then 7/12, now 7/13) with possibility of further delay...We are trying to accommodate all customers in a timely manner that are affected by this delay. We apologize for the major inconvenience this may cause...We will keep you updated as fast as we can on your services."
I tried calling, but the wait was over 2 hours on multiple occasions.
In conclusion:1 - I don't recommend hiring Packrat for anything. I give them a Net Promoter Score of 0.
2 - Watch your invoice/billing like a hawk. Packrat is so disorganized that they might charge you for things you've paid for and never got, or might deliver services at a level lower than what you paid for.
3 - When mistakes are made, they do not fix it and make it right.
4 - In order to avoid conflict with customers Packrat has taken the following two approaches with me (perhaps not proactively): 1) They make you hold for HOURS in order to connect with a customer service rep who doesn't have the ability to make things right, or 2) They send you form text messages continuing to push back your services.
We apologize for the delays our customer encountered and any added stress this caused. We appreciate Adam working with our Resolution Team as we worked to get this resolved.

We originally had our container picked up on June 21st from Connecticut and paid for expedited shipping so the pod would reach our new home in Colorado on July 1st. I was speaking with them the entire week leading up to the 1st regarding a permit that would be needed to have the container on the street and confirmed multiple times with different representatives that the pod was on schedule for delivery on the 1st. Thankfully we had an Airtag placed in the container because we checked the location the night before it was supposed to be delivered and it still hadn't left the origin facility in Connecticut.
We called the next day and were told there had been a "glitch" in the system and the container was scheduled to be picked up on July 6th from Connecticut even though they had already picked up the container over a week before. The representative told us the new earliest date the pod could be delivered was July 21st, almost 3 weeks after the day we were supposed to get the pod. We were told dispatch was out for the day and since it was a holiday weekend they couldn't give any other updates until July 5th.
When we called again on the 5th I was told the pod would be dispatched that day and was scheduled for delivery to our house on the 14th. When we saw the location the next morning hadn't changed we called again and were told the pod had been dispatched and "just hadn't updated in the system". When we told the representative we knew it hadn't dispatched because we had an Airtag in the container she put us on hold to "speak to her supervisor" but then told us the pod would be dispatched on July 8th and get to the local Colorado facility on July 11th and still on schedule for delivery on the 14th.
I don't understand the need to lie and make things up. Once we started having all of these issues and looked into it online, we saw a ton of reviews with similar experiences and 1-800-PACK-RAT also throwing on hidden fees. It seems like the company doesn't uphold their end of the contract and just does whatever they want once you pay your balance. I'm wondering why we even paid for expedited shipping when our container is probably getting here even later than standard shipping. There has been no accountability, urgency to rectify any mistakes made, or any offers of compensation and the attitude appears to be "it'll get there when it does". We are deeply unsatisfied with the service and will actively tell people to avoid using 1-800-PACK-RAT because moving, especially across the country, is already stressful as it is and no one should have to deal with having all their personal belongings delayed from filling their new homes for weeks at a time.
We are truly sorry for the delays and poor communication our customer experienced. This is not the type of service we want any of our customers to receive. We appreciate Parth speaking with a team member and giving us the opportunity to work on a resolution.

I would not recommend this company! Very disappointed, container was dropped off on time but can’t get the company to pick up the loaded container. When I call they promise they are coming today but never happens. I am moving a disabled wife across country and schedule so the arrival would match her flights. Container still not picked up and the delivery dates are three weeks out and keep delaying the date of arrival. Have no idea when they will pickup the container. I hate being repeatedly lied to by the company. Would never use them again and wish I had used someone that was honest and dependable. I should have looked into e reviews before booking them. It will cost us even more now to rent hotels waiting on the items to arrive.

Currently waiting for a container that was supposed to be here. When it didn’t show up, I called to see what the deal was. Someone told me that the container was still in the state I was moving from and the facility had issues with the forklift. When I asked about the timeline, I got no answers. The person kept repeating that the dispatch department will get back to me with an updated. The problem to me is that no one called to let us know our stuff wouldn’t be here as scheduled and also that there is no one else I can talk to you find out more info. I’m just stuck in a new state without my stuff, no idea when it will get here, and the only person I can talk to can give me no information or find someone else for me to talk to that might have more info. Terrible customer service and the company isn’t very transparent.

We should have known better: do business with a Rat? Eight weeks and counting. EIGHT WEEKS! And still no household goods delivered to our new home. In good faith, we agreed to have Pack-Rat shepherd the contents of our lives almost 2,700 miles from the Pacific Northwest to East Texas. Business with Rats? Really?
Containers were delivered to our home north of Seattle (three hours-plus from the Puyallup facility) promptly and exactly when promised. After three units had been filled and taken to the warehouse, we had to change our move destination to East Texas. While packing container #4, we were informed that they don’t deliver that far from their facility (even though it’s only about five miles farther than our Coupeville, Wash., home is from Puyallup). Another one of their bogus tactics to wear us down and finally give up. “We can maybe find a Walmart 50 miles from your house that will let you use their parking lot. We can park the containers there while you unload, reload, then take everything to your home 50 miles away, and unload it again.” Now that IS generous! All that AND possibly a trip to the ER for heatstroke while packing/unpacking on 120-degree asphalt. But sadly, even that tempting offer doesn’t pan out.
Only two weeks before our Texas house deal was to close, we found ourselves upstream without a paddle. What was our recourse? Have all of the containers --six at this point—brought back to our home, unloaded, and then -- what? Pack-Rat prides itself on having excellent customer service. Well, it does…if that service means employing delay tactics and deflecting responsibility—and when you can get someone besides an operator on the line. “The manager in Dallas makes all those decisions. We in corporate can’t do anything about it.” Sound familiar?
Finally two weeks ago, someone from corporate called to say they would try to deliver the pods to our home. And by the way, our case was now to be overseen by Mr. **. (Not kidding!) They would be in touch very soon. Well, no. There have been no calls/emails/texts from Mr. ** or anyone else. More delays. In the meantime, we have been paying rent for storage at their warehouse, not because we couldn’t take delivery, but because they wouldn’t deliver! This company needs to be held accountable for their unconscionable treatment of their customers, and mafioso business practices. We can’t decide if they are inept, greedy, or both. Perhaps the legal system will decide. So, if you still want to use the Rats, just remember: you’ve been warned. Good luck to our fellow movers!

Communication is non-existant. There's no telling how much you'll actually have to pay because they'll just charge you whatever they want for the surcharge, which seems like thievery. When they return your pod, they don't give you a time so you can't plan to have anyone help you unload it. It's 10 pm and it's not here yet and despite 3 calls, there's no information to be given. Incredibly unhelpful with no effort to even try to get answers.
We sincerely apologize for the delays and the hardship this caused our customer. We appreciate Mr. Rob speaking with a team member to get the unit scheduled for delivery and to discuss appropriate compensation for the issues he experienced. We look forward to completing the move on a better note.

26 years in the Navy, and 16 military moves makes me pretty savvy to the moving game. So, when it came time to relocate, I wanted to reduce the financial impact and decided to utilize 2 portable containers. I found 1800PackRat was a bit cheaper than Pods, and their pledge to COMPLETE customer satisfaction seemed legit. Boy was I WRONG.
I contacted the company and asked if they shipped to Oklahoma, and they said, absolutely. I had a contract on a new home, and they confirmed shipping there wasn’t problem. Everything was great, and I packed the first container. The company came and swapped the full container for an empty one. Unfortunately, the bid for the house fell through, but I was able to find another home close rather by, (only 29 miles away). This house was much closer to a major city, so I figured everything was good. That was until I called Pack-Rat to update the address.
I gave them the new zip code, they informed me that they do not ship to that zip code and transferred me to Manager Josh. I was shocked that they could not support a location only 29 miles away. I explained to Manager Josh that I was in a tight situation. I had already loaded a unit that they had already picked up, and I was about to load the second. I let him know that time was limited because I had other movers coming soon to pack the rest of my house. To which Manager Josh said, "Unfortunately, we do not deliver to that zip code."
Now desperate and asked, "Can you please contact that facility and see if a waiver of some sort was possible?" I even offered to pay $1,000 dollars on top of the $8,500 I was charged, in order to offset any extra costs that may be incurred. To which Manager Josh said, "Sorry no." He then said they had a partner company that delivered to that zip code, and I thought yes, hope...alas, no.
I asked Manager Josh if their partner company can deliver my already packed unit and again he said, "Sorry no." Ugggh. Manager Josh told me that I would have to go to the facility and transfer my things (6000lbs) to their partner’s container to do the delivery. So after packing the unit at my home, I would, go to their facility, unpack my unit, repack everything into their partner's unit, to bring everything 29 miles to be unpacked again at the home. And, I would have to pay their moving price plus that of their partner.
This didn’t make sense to me. I was panicking now, and asked him what he would do if he were me, to which he simply said I gave you the only option. Mind you, the first unit was just picked up and was sitting in storage close by. I then asked Manager Josh if there was anyone else who I could talk to who might be able to help and he said nope, I'm it.
Again, I was shocked. This from a company that is supposedly dedicated to customer satisfaction, there was no "let me try to figure something out", no "maybe I can call someone who can help". Just simply "no, we do not deliver to that zip code". After sitting on the phone dumbfounded for over a minute, I asked, "Can they bring back my unit?" To which Manager Josh said yes, and it would only cost me $700. To which I said wow! I will now, in total, pay $1,000 to pack my things from my garage into a unit, only to have it brought back to my same garage and unload a few days later. Again, dumbfounded. But what was I to do?
I asked how soon can I get the unit back so I can unload it prior to our movers showing up? Manager Josh said, "It will take at least a week because we are all backed up with orders." OMG!! The unit is coming back just prior to the movers coming, and will have to rush to have everything ready. To be honest, I understand the situation. Maybe there are significant fines if their container is found in the new zip code or something like that. What really upsets me was the total lack of empathy with regard to my situation. Just matter of fact. Pack-Rat might be a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for and that is not customer service. I strongly DO NOT recommend Pack-Rat and suggest you think twice before paying them. Thanks for nothing Manager Josh. As a customer, I was completely UNSATISFIED.

Updated on 07/16/2022: This is an ongoing nightmare working with this company. Our containers (2) were scheduled for delivery on 6/25. Delayed until 6/27 and not delivered until 7/9. Empty containers scheduled to be picked up on 7/16 - received 4 messages confirming pick up of 2 containers on 7/16. Pick up delayed until 7/28. This company can't get anything right. Can't deliver when they say they will and can't pick up. This is the worst experience we have ever had with a moving company. Excuses after excuses no resolution. They make promises they know they can't keep. Don't even think of using this company for your move. You will regret it. This is a no star review - they don't even deserve one.
Original Review: We utilized 1-800-Pack-Rat for our long distance move from Florida to Virginia. Customer service was great setting it all up. For the initial delivery of our 2 empty containers we were contacted in advance by the driver letting us know when he would be arriving. The same driver was great picking them up. That's where everything good about this move fell apart. We had a delivery date of our full containers scheduled for June 25th. Since no one called the night before, we called them the morning on the 25th. We were told by the customer service rep that she would contact the Richmond facility and that we would be receiving an email with the updated information.
About an hour later, I received a text message that stated "Unfortunately, we have had to reschedule your Deliver Full to 6/27 (both units) due to unforeseen circumstances." On 6/27, since no one called the night before, we called on 6/27 to get an ETA. The customer service rep again contacted the Richmond facility and was told that they would not be delivering the containers and did not have a date as to when the containers would be delivered. They told the customer service rep that they didn't have any trucks! What kind of moving company has no trucks to deliver the property they were hired to pick up and deliver? This is totally outrageous and unacceptable. We paid just under $5000.00 for them to move us. It was great on the pick up end but they have left us out to dry on the delivery end. We will be seeking compensation for the stress and inconvenience.
We sincerely apologize for the delays and lack of communication our customer experienced. It is never our intention to cause any added stress during an already stressful time. We appreciate Ann Marie speaking with a team member to discuss compensation as we work to get this resolved as soon as possible.

Do not use 1-800 Pack Rat if you need timely service and don’t want to be caught paying extra for movers and HOA fees when they don’t pick up the pods as promised!! In June 2022, we moved from southern to northern California. The good: The pods were in Italy dropped off the day they promised. They were clean and the drivers were courteous. The bad: They don’t keep pick-up and drop-off timelines and they don’t care about the inconvenience they cause or the money you lose (thousands in our case)!
They were late for the initial pick-up despite scheduling in advance, and calling in advance and day of to confirm. We had to leave the pod in front of the house when the new family moved in. DAYS after they were supposed to pick it up. And at delivery at our new location, they delivered the pods a day late—so we had to scramble to find movers for a second day and pay movers twice.
For the final pick-up, we called relentlessly and they promised they were coming for pick-up. It’s been two days since the scheduled pick up, and despite numerous phone calls and assurances, the pod is still sitting in the middle of our cul-de-sac to the frustration now of not only us but also our new neighbors. We’re also being fined by the HOA.
Customer service is useless. Many promises, no ability to ensure follow-through or change the actions of the local delivery depots. Even the drivers acknowledge that it’s not we’ll run. If you have a big driveway, and don’t care about delivery timelines, then their shipping containers will work. But if you value prompt, promised service or even the integrity to tell you the truth about when your pods will be delivered or picked up (however late), I would suggest you go elsewhere.

Would NOT recommend this company unless you're okay spending your extra money and time waiting for your unit to arrive. We had previously moved with this company two years ago and did not have any problems. So this year when it is time to move again (military) we choose this company over others for that reason, even though our quoted move price was not double but triple the amount it was only 2 short years ago for the same distance.
Our unit was scheduled to be delivered this past week but it never showed up to our new home. We called multiple times waiting for over an hour each time to speak to a representative. The evening of the original arrival day they assured us the unit was on its way and they would let us know an hour before. The following day, still no word on delivery so after multiple phone calls and long wait times we are assured the unit is at our local facility and will be delivered on the upcoming Monday. Monday comes and still no word on delivery so here we go again on the phone with supervisors.
One supervisor tells me there was a mishap with printing the label, and it shows that our unit left the local facility and he is having the local manager check and make sure our unit is actually there in order to get it on the truck and delivered to our home as soon as possible. I get a text in about 2 hours that our POD will be delivered on Friday (a week later) due to a truck break down.
So I call back again, speak to second "supervisor" who had zero empathy, refused to transfer my call to anyone who could help me in this matter and the kicker - tells me our unit is not at the local facility but in transit and will not be delivered till Friday at best because they are still waiting to receive the unit. I tell her multiple people have confirmed our unit is at the local facility and she then changes her story to say yes she thinks it is there but won't be delivered till Friday due to truck issues as our text states. I ask her to please confirm our unit is at the local facility as the previous supervisor was waiting for conformation our unit was there in the first place. She then said, she never told me our unit wasn't there, and as a sound medical professional my jaw is now on the floor. So now I'm worried they have lost our unit altogether.
I get off the phone with this supervisor as she solved none of our issues and only made this process that much more of a nightmare by providing conflicting information. We again are waiting for a return call or some sort of information and no contact is made so begrudgingly we call back a third time and yet another supervisor confirms our unit is at the local facility and the quickest they can get it to us is Friday. So we ask what type of compensation they provide as our family is now staying at a hotel because our only option is sleeping on a bare floor and after paying over $4000 to this company, we expected our belongings on time. They tell us the best they can do is $50 a day. I AM MIND BLOWN. I'm cramming my family in a small hotel room because it is around 200$ a day for one room and all they will provide is compensation for $50 a day until the unit arrives.
Also, that compensation doesn't extend till Sundays because they're not open yet I'm still paying for a hotel regardless. I tell her when we asked why their price has tripled in 2 years, they told me it is due to inflation and gas prices. Well yes, we are all feeling these prices so maybe you should adjust your daily compensation fees if you're going to hold your customer's pods for a week longer than promised. And that week is assuming our Pod will actually arrive on the new stated date. We feel so defeated and all of our belongings are sitting who knows where. Please take note before booking with this company, you may end up in this nightmarish situation like us and it is not worth it. I will be telling everyone I know especially for military moves to steer clear of this company.
We are deeply sorry for the ongoing delays and the problems this has caused. We can confirm that a team member has reached out and is working to get this resolved as soon as possible. We are grateful for the feedback and will use it to strengthen our services going forward.

This company is atrocious. I went with them because drop off and delivery dates were available. They did not pick up my container. They marked my account as picked up. They charged me $2000 for the pickup and transportation costs, which is breach of contract, as it has not been transported anywhere. It has been five days and I’m still looking at my container. When you call, all they will do is “attempt to call the local delivery center”, but they literally do not respond to emails or pick up the phone. They are not allowed to give you the direct phone number to the local office. I have received zero callbacks to update me, my account still says pickup completed, and they still have no idea when my container is going to be picked up or delivered. Avoid at all costs, unless you literally don’t care about timing at all. The drop off driver and all of the support staff have been great; that’s about the only thing giving them even a single star.
We are truly sorry for the pickup delays and the issues this caused our customer during his move. A team member was able to speak with Christopher to go over the situation and work on a resolution. This company hasn't done anything right from day one. Late delivery of drop off of container. Late pick up and drop off to new location by many, many days. Missed work days, paid people to unload for no shows. Was told the empty container would be picked up days ago. No one has called nor shown up. My community has been more than patient up until now. Can't get in touch with customer service. It's been a very unpleasant and expensive experience for us. I would never use them, or suggest them to anyone under any circumstances. This has been an ongoing problem for way too long.
We sincerely apologize for the delays that you experienced, Tammy. We appreciate you taking the time to speak with a member or our Resolution Team to discuss the problems you encountered and compensation for those issues.

I was having trouble finding a moving company for my move. I went to Pack-Rat to see what they offered. I talked to a very nice woman. She said I could rent the containers and said they could be delivered the day of closing on my new house. The first 2 containers were delivered on time. I had to get another container so I called them again. I got a different woman who was also very nice. When I spoke with this woman it sounded like a different company. I was never told that they would hold all 3 containers for 10 days after they picked the last one up. She said I could not schedule the drop off at my new home until they all got to the local facility. I put trackers in every container. Two of them got there in 11 days but one moved all over upstate NY for a few days.
It finally got to the facility and I was able to schedule the delivery. I went to the site right away and there were no openings for about another 10 days. I scheduled them all for June 11th. They had originally promised they would arrive on May26th. They delivered 1 on June 11th. They came with the next one on June 12th and left the first empty container in my driveway. I tried to call customer service several times and put my phone on speaker when I was put on hold. I listened to their music for hours and never got to speak to anyone.
I went to their website and the open days would not allow me to schedule a pickup. I then posted about this on their Facebook page. They then contacted me and I was able to speak to someone on the phone. At that point I had paid the next month's rent on the first container and about to pay for another month on the next container. They said they would pick it up when they dropped of the next container. They came and took it away when they dropped it off the next day. It put me over the 30 days so I paid another month's rent.
I got the number from the driver and called the warehouse directly. I was able to schedule the next container right before the rent was due and the other before the 3rd month's rent was due. A day or 2 before the pickup they sent an text saying they changed the pickup date. The new date put that container over 30 days. They said I would not be charged but I was. They are supposed to pick it up today. The last container is scheduled for June 28 the. I have very little confidence that it will actually be picked up on that date. I expect I will be paying a 3rd month's rent on that one. I don't know if this company is run this badly or this is how they make more money. What should've been a 2 week move is coming up on 3 months now. I have never felt with a company this bad in my entire life. Do not use this company!
We apologize for the continued issues and delays our customer is experiencing. A team member has reached out to Mr. Tom and left a voicemail. We also processed a refund for both units' most recent rental charge.

We utilized 1-800-Pack-Rat for our long distance move. Customer service was great setting it up. For the initial delivery of our empty trailer we were contacted in advance by the driver letting us know when he would be by. The same drive was great picking it up. That's where everything good stopped. We had a delivery date of our full trailer for June 18th. Since no one called us in the morning on the 18th we called and they told us it would be delivered between 3:30 and 7:45pm. No one called. No one showed up. When they missed the window I called customer service again and was told they were not coming by. I was pissed and still am as this is ridiculous and unacceptable.
Ethan would not give any confirmation that he would be able to get a hold of the facility or promise any delivery date or time. He certainly did not mention they the following day a Sunday they don't even deliver. I found that out calling today the 19th the facilities were closed and they could send an email and they would put me down for a Monday morning delivery. I have wasted my entire weekend over this and now have to take time off work to unload a trailer during the week that was supposed to be here for me to do this weekend. No part of this is acceptable.

Beware: They charge hidden "fuel subsidy" fees on long-distance moves which they do not disclose when you place the order. You will be told your "total move cost" is (x). It is not (x). You will just simply be charged a much higher amount than agreed after they collect your pod, with no invoice that even breaks this down for you, so you won't even know unless you watch the charge on your card. In my case, $992 more (20% over what I agreed to). They have a dedicated phone line menu option just to dispute this fee because they know exactly what they are doing, and they will put you on hold for 2-3 hours hoping you will give up. They have a script ready where they will eventually offer you a full refund minus $100 if you keep insisting (don't take their first offer of half off- heck, maybe if you don't give up or file a BBB report, you can get the full refund).
My pod was also delayed FOUR times and I had to reschedule my movers over and over, it was ridiculous. I paid $600 for expedited 7-day delivery, but then it was a full week late, beyond even their standard shipping timeframe. And yet I had to argue for 25 min for them to refund the $600 expedited fee for not actually providing that service. There was also a hidden $100 "premium delivery fee"(?????) or some such, which, after I filed a BBB report, they also refunded "because your pod was delayed", so I guess if it wasn't, you'd get some random extra $100 charge even though you're already paying $5000 for the move.
Oh, and I paid for a "guaranteed" AM pickup of our pod, and he arrived at almost 2 pm, and I had to cancel another truck service that was supposed to come that day, because they couldn't get in because the pod wasn't cleared out of the driveway. Absolutely terrible all around, and I am embarrassed that I was in such a stressed rush on my move that I didn't catch all of the reviews similar to the one I am posting now warning others of all of this.

When I do get someone it's because I call as a new customer and then get transferred around and magically anyone who answers cannot fix the issue and just transfers you again. I want a refund! I have wasted countless hours on hold trying to get this situation fixed. I have missed business calls and this is time I could have spent working and growing my own business. This is no way to run a business. You can't just go and stick surprise gas charges in. Everyone is paying more for gas. That's the cost of doing business. I could have gone with pods for $2245.25 and had none of this headache and received a fully metal airtight/weather tight container as advertised. This business is run like a scam.

Ok so they do service my area. It just took 2-3 hours of persistence and informing them they had a facility within 60 miles of our destination before they found a resolution. If anyone is in our situation, the facility they select as the transfer point impacts the area they service. It was a stressful few hours and I wish the customer service reps were better information/equipped to resolve issues.

We had our container picked up in Oakland and did not have a final destination as we were still looking for a home. We clarified the areas we were looking around the greater Los Angeles area including where we ended up (Ventura) and the sales rep said no problem. Now 6 months later we are trying to have our stuff delivered and they said. "Sorry we don't service that area" even though they service within 10 miles of it. They literally won't go the extra mile. The option they gave us is to come pack our stuff into another company's container and have them deliver it! I've been on the phone for 2 hours at this point trying to get them to deliver our stuff to us!

100% DO NOT RECOMMEND especially military moves. We moved last summer. They missed the pick up of our empty unit, no contact… Got pushed back a few days with no follow up from their end. Ended up costing us extra $$ with our local storage unit because we couldn’t unload with the empty unit in the way before they charged our next month here. I called and at that time was promised a refund of $337.50. Well this negative balance has been sitting on our account since August. The person who promised this didn’t make proper notes and they are still holding my money. How a negative balance isn’t a credit is beyond me but the “supervisor” says that’s not the case. RUN FAR AWAY and find another way to move your items.

I first contacted a Business Development Specialist (salesperson) in mid-February two months before I required a container. She was very nice and provided a prompt quote for my needs by the next day. Issue #1: Immediately after receiving the email quote I started receiving text messages and calls to my phone to call an 800 number about my quote.
Not just one, but up to five every 24 hr. period. Thinking something was wrong I called and was put through to the regular sales line where a random salesperson picked up. I explained I’m getting all these urgent text messages about my quote and they said “yea they’re just reminders”. I emailed the salesperson back and said this is a good way to “lose” customers rather than gaining. Who came up with “this” system? Badgering after a quote is agreed on? She offered to take my phone number off the system and this stopped the spamming.
Issue #2: Near the end of March, now one month before the move, I checked in again by trying to call her as she said to contact her directly in her previous email. Her email signature closing includes her number and extension. When I call I get “this extension is no longer in use”. Ok, not a big deal but it just adds to the growing list. We speak through email and I find out that quotes are only good for 7 days. Ok, I will call and place the order within 7 days of my requirement. In the meantime, I’m offered a “My PackRat account” with a login ID and password. I try logging in and the “copy and pasted” password is rejected.
It’s now the last week of April, five days before I require the container. I waited so the quote would remain valid through the 7-day limit. I call and get a random sales associate and put my order in referring to all the details I’d gone through over the past two months. We agreed on the Friday of this week I would receive a 16 ft container by 10 AM.
I gave her my Credit card and received a confirmation email. Two days later I noticed while reviewing the confirmation that the destination address didn’t have a name, instead the street address was repeated on two lines. Not wanting to have a problem with the delivery I called back to get this corrected. Once again a random sales associate (no way to talk to the same person) checked it and it was correct in the “system” but for some reason not in my email confirmation.
Issue #3: When I said I was looking forward to receiving the container this Friday the salesperson said “I don’t see that your order is in”, What???? “Yes there’s a quote but there's no order to deliver”. I said, “You've got to be kidding!" She entered the order and I said, “I’m sure glad I called”. It’s now Friday morning 8 AM, I’m on site waiting for the container that’s scheduled to be delivered before 10 AM. I have to leave for the airport by 2 pm to fly out of state so time is critical. 10:00 comes and goes and no container, I’m not surprised at this point the way everything else has gone so far. My phone has been on and there’s been no calls from the driver. I don’t have my computer but only a smartphone now so I bring up the website and see a chatbox.
Issue #4: “I hope you’re ready for this one.” I put my name in and a person comes back right away. I typed my order number and explained that the container is late and I’ve heard nothing from the local company. The person types back that the order reads “anytime delivery”. What???? I typed back “you've got to be kidding!" (This phrase is starting to take on a life of its own). In the middle of this an apparent automated response comes up that reads “We haven’t heard from you in a while, do you want to continue this chat?” I look at the previous message timestamp and it's only 1 minute old. This deserves an issue of its own so we’ll make this #5.
The person types back that they will try to find out what the schedule looks like for the driver that’s supposed to be delivering. As I’m typing back my issue with time today, a message comes over the top that says “We haven’t heard from you in a while, would you like to start a new chat session?” And with that, I’m cut off, literally 60 seconds since the last message! Who would put a stopwatch function on a customer service chat window? Especially when you’re trying to type each word on a phone. I want to talk to “THAT” person! It’s now 11:30 and I get on the phone, a random salesperson picks up and once again I go through my whole story.
Issue #6 (wait for it… here it comes.) He explains that there’s three time windows you can choose from; morning, afternoon or late afternoon/evening. There’s a $50 charge to make a selection, otherwise to save the $50 you can choose “anytime”. “I don’t care about the $50.” I said, “Why did three previous salespeople not tell me about this?” “Why am I only hearing this today after it's too late? Why did the last person select “anytime” when I clearly said 10 AM or earlier? The salesperson had no good reasons for any of this and I think he sympathized with me. So on top of not knowing about a preferred time of delivery that I could have chosen, and not receiving a call from the person who’s supposed to be delivering today even just to tell me “anything” about a possible time, the salesperson now gives me the grand finale; issue #6.
He says it appears there’s a problem with the dispatch yard that services this area and no containers are available today, perhaps next week. There’s a long silence on the phone, I’m thinking to myself “I’ve been dealing with this company for two months setting this up, they know it's not a simple house move across town that could be done “anytime” but instead a cross-country move that requires coordination between the pickup location and drop off and it's now come down to this… No container and I have to leave the location where my stuff is in just two hours”. At least there wasn’t a 60 sec. timer this time because it was probably a whole minute before I composed myself to came back with a response. “So what am I supposed to do?” I said.
He again stated perhaps next week they can get one here. I said I would have to put my things in storage but with only two hours even that’s going to be a challenge because my parcel is over 2000 lbs. He offered to cancel the order and there would be no charge (Oh that’s nice to know). Ultimately I was able to arrange alternate shipping that same day and confirmed with Pack-Rat over another call that I wished to cancel the order. The salesperson confirmed that it was cancelled and asked for a reason for the cancellation. “Wow, where do I begin” I said. I tried my best to do a 60 sec. synopsis of this whole mess and when finished she had the nerve to say “So the company did not meet your expectations”.
I couldn’t believe it, she tried to make this sound like it was “my” fault. That “my” expectations were too high to expect not even one out of three salespeople could tell me that I have an option to select a time of day if I need a specific time even though I said I did. And I’m expecting too much for my order to be placed into the system even after I pay with a credit card and we both agree to a drop-off time and location. And I’m expecting too much to receive a phone call when no container is available on the day of delivery, instead, I have to call. All I can say is “WOW”. This company completely dropped the ball and lost a $2700 sale for what should have been a very simple transaction. Buyer beware.

Not seeing the credit after a couple weeks, I called back 2 more times and was told the same thing by different agents. After another 2 weeks I contacted the company via on line chat. I was told there would not be any refund because the $700 was for an expedited delivery (which I did not request). They said the agents were confused...?
Then I was told I was not actually charged for an expedited delivery but there would be no refund because the charges were for the fuel surcharge. I was well aware of this possibility but was not informed in any way that my card would be automatically charged for any amount. Nor was I provided an itemized breakdown of the additional costs before my card was charged. I have been told I need to wait a couple of business days to see the itemized receipt. Updated on 3/2/2022: Someone did call... and offered to help get the container delivered. All I wanted was the costs so I can make a decision that's best for my son. The options seem to be to pay for the "long-distance" delivery or drive a truck to the facility and empty the container. We are exploring the options. That your customer service people can't tell you what a particular warehouse's delivery area is is a bad thing. This should be known and should be published to customers BEFORE they lease a container. You guys are not making this easy.
Original review: I rented from PackRat for my son when moving out of college. He wasn't sure where he would go next (same city or different city). Not a problem says PackRat... They lie. It's a big huge expensive problem. If you want the container delivered to a different city, you would expect them to quote you some changes, but have the ability to make it happen. No, they do not. You have to get the container delivered to the "service area" of the warehouse storing the container. Now, ask them to tell you what that "service area" is, what zip codes, and THEY CAN'T TELL YOU. So you never know if moving across town, to a new town, or across the street if you will be able to get your stuff. So now the only resource is to hire a truck and go to their warehouse to get the stuff and drive away. For this, you are still paying HUNDREDS of dollars in fees.
We are truly sorry for the lack of clarity regarding our delivery zones during the ordering process and for the additional stress this has caused Mr. Mark and his son. We appreciate him communicating with us in order to go over all the options and find a solution. We hope the rest of the move goes smoothly.

We recently hired ZippyShell (1-800 PackRAT) to move our goods from Denver, CO to South Lake Tahoe, CA. To saw we've been disappointed is an absolute understatement... we hired ZippyShell to pack and pick up our goods in Denver, CO as it was a rental and our tenant was moving out. We filled out the bill of materials to pickup and the sales individual was very helpful.
We then got a call from our tenant the day of moving that the mover did not show up with any moving blankets (which we have a recording of the sales individual saying that they would show up with packing material ie tape, boxes, etc). Our real estate agent helped us in a big way and ran to Home Depot to supply zippy shell with all of those items. Later, we got a call from our tenant stating that the mover forgot ALL of our porch furniture and a TV hanging on the wall (all of which were signed off on by the movers that they had packed). I called ZippyShell and they said they'd send the movers out the next day to grab the TV & the porch furniture as the shell was still in Denver... This pickup never happened either- we had to end up giving the buyers of the home the porch furniture ($700) and TV ($650).
Things got worse.... When I met ZippyShell to unload the shell in October, I was met by very friendly (3rd party) movers. As they were unloading, they mentioned our $1600 Dining Room Table had a bunch of scratches and was chipped based on the way it was poorly packaged into the ZippyShell... They said take pictures ASAP and send in to 1-800-packrat. Upon unboxing everything else, we noticed that they Scratched/cracked our 85" TV ($2000) and completely scraped a mattress to the point that it tore. (We have photos from our tenant the day of loading showing that these items were in pristine condition so that he received his damage deposit back.)
We submitted the claim to ZippyShell on Oct 19th, 2021 and they claimed it would take 90 DAYS!!! No one ever came to look at the items for the claim or contacted us. Keep in mind we PAID for their moving insurance as well... Following this, we received an email from their claims dept on Dec 31, 2021 stating that they wished to offer us $575.15 vs the claimed amount of $5,534.34. When we said we want to appeal their claim decision, we received the below email: "The 1-800-Pack-Rat Zippy Shell claims department has received notice of your desire to file an appeal regarding the determination provided on your claim. The claim will be re-evaluated by our leadership team and a final determination will be provided within 7-10 business days." Since then, we have received no correspondence from Zippyshell and it's been over a MONTH!!!
We are going to spend the $$ to make sure that this company makes this right for us. We want to make sure we leave this review EVERYWHERE we possibly can to warn individuals from using Zippyshell (AKA PackRat). We are in discussions with attorneys and will be approaching ZippyShell ASAP with legal action should we not hear back from them in 48hrs of our last email. BEWARE!
The claims team advised due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, 1-800-Pack-Rat could not accept full liability for the damages sustained to the property. We apologize for the damages incurred and will take the feedback into consideration as we work towards providing a better customer experience going forward. Despite the initial determination made on the claim, our team is currently in the process of working with the claimant to arrive at an agreeable resolution concerning this matter

Buyer Beware. We booked a container on 1/21/22 for 1/28/22. I got a confirming email that the container would be delivered on 1/28 22. I confirmed the delivery of the container on 1/27/22 (no problems). On 1/28/22 I reconfirmed in the morning. (No Problem). I was told the container could be delivered up until 11PM and that I would be notified an Hour before. By 2PM was getting nervous so I called again to reconfirm. I was told that the delivery date was moved to 1/31/22. I went ballistic. Mind you no one called me with this information. 1/31/22 was worthless to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor who proceeded to tell me she didn't know what happened. I was beside myself at this point but I know this is not her fault so I tempered my response.
This is a management issue and we cannot take this out on employees of a badly run company. The supervisor told me she needed to find out what happened. I told her I would stay on the line. She informed me that she is required to email the facility to get an answer. Do you believe this? In the end no one called me back. I advise you to look elsewhere for this service. You don't know if they will ever show up. Now I know what kind of response this review will get. Owner: "I'm sorry this happened to you...Blah...Blah...Blah." Again, Buyer beware.
Ray, unfortunately, due to severe inclement weather, we were unable to deliver the container on your original date. We are deeply sorry for the problems and hardship this caused you. We regret that we were unable to provide you with a seamless move. Thank you for sharing your feedback as we are always working to improve.

We had a complicated move from a house in OR to an apartment in AZ and finally a house in AZ. So that meant multiple containers that went to different locations (smaller one went to apartment, then 6 months later the 16 ft went to the house). We were in the apt looking for a house, so needed some things not everything. The 16 ft remained in storage. We were able to go to the PHX warehouse (drive inside where it was cool in August), consolidate what we didn't need in the apt into the 16 ft (because who packs perfectly the first time) and then go on our way. The 16 ft was delivered last week and picked up on time. The containers must be handled carefully because after 7 mos., our belongings were in perfect shape the way we packed them. The price was reasonable, customer service was great - I couldn't be happier.
Hi Alex, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We appreciate your business and hope you have a wonderful day!
