I spent over an hour trying to cancel service with NetZero. Spoke to two women on two separate occasions. Both refused to send email confirmation of cancellation. Last one refused to let me speak to a supervisor. First tried to tell me I had free email until June 15th and had I not asked what happened, then she would have not told me that they would again start charging me an annual fee for email service. All I want is written confirmation of my cancellation with no subsequent charges. Please help! I do not want my name, address, phone number shared with anyone else.

My AT&T internet service was inadvertently disconnected in December 2011. While waiting for the new AT&T U-Verse to be connected, I contacted Netzero for service in the interim. I picked up a free DVD from Wal-Mart to install the service, but it never worked. After trying for about a week, I finally gave up and asked to have the service cancelled. I called on 11/30/2011 to cancel the service, but they tried to sell me on keeping the Norton service. I asked to have all services cancelled, which they agreed to do. To date, my credit card was charged on 12/23/11 for $9.97 and 1/23 /12 for $495. I called today, 1/29/12, to request a full refund, but the woman who answered the phone, Ashley, started on a long explanation, as to why I had been charged. I asked that she please just cancel the service. Subsequently, she hung up on me. The customer service is atrocious, and they are very sneaky with their sales tactics.

I purchased my computer at Sweepstakes Clearinghouse and it states: “Your computer comes with (10) hours of free Internet service per month with no-cost options for accessing the internet.” I receive a letter from NetZero dated 12-27-2011. I also had to wait for the software package, Norton from Symantec, PC Tune-Up and Norton 360 Online, and Windows 7/Vista/XP. NetZero was notified (member services). I have approximately 756 days to receive free internet access. When I received the NetZero phone number seeking help with technical problems, I had to give them a credit card number to get any service from them. Now they are seeking payment and stated my service will be disconnected.

I called and cancelled my subscription to Netzero within my 30-day free trial. A month later, my debit card was charged $9.74. I called Netzero that same day and they told me my account was cancelled but it would take 2 billing cycles to get my bank account credited. Two calls and 3 months later I am still waiting for that credit. I think a class action suit is due.

I had the dial-up service for a number of years with no need for interaction with them. Then on Labor Day weekend, I was suddenly unable to access either of the two numbers listed in my area. I tried repeatedly to do so and got messages that numbers could not be accessed and to try again later. When the number was selected, the message flashed up only a second or two later, so I knew something was wrong.

I then decided to remove the Net Zero program and re-install it, thinking that might be the problem. However, I was unable to un-install the program. I've never been unable to un-install a program before. So on 9/6/11, I called the CA number and the number was no longer in service although listed on my credit card charge statement.

I googled another number and called, explaining my problem. I was connected to a technician who spoke horrible English. This is still the US where English is the official language. He said access numbers were no longer available in my area for dial-up. (I had had no notification, and numbers were still listed.) By then, I'm not so happy.

I then said I tried to delete the program and could not. So he, in his broken English, led me through a complex system which finally deleted Net Zero at $1.95/min. I asked him what they were doing about this, and he mentioned there may be a free-dial-up number that I could check into--not helpful. Later that morning, I called back to cancel my service. I stated that fact and was transferred to someone who supposedly could make that happen. I asked if there were charges still outstanding, and after checking, she said no, other than the technician charge.

Then on 9/27, I received my credit card statement and saw a charge from NZ for a monthly $9.95. The number on my statement was the discontinued CA number. So I googled another number and called. A person, again not speaking good English, informed me that my service had not been cancelled and asked if I want to cancel it.

She further said that I must have not talked to a person who could cancel the service on 9/6. She assured me it was cancelled, there is no offer of refund for 9/237 charge. She also said an email would be sent confirming cancellation of service. I haven't seen it yet inspite of another email from me requesting the same.

Now today, I receive a "farewell thank you" for using NZ with some florist discount--again, no confirmation. So again, I emailed them to stop. I contacted my credit card vendor to make changes, so they can't charge me anymore. And I plan to contact the BBB, as they endorsed NZ as I noted on NZ web ad.

I installed Netzero and it was horrible. So I called that day to cancel and they kept trying to get me to agree to stay. The lady sounded like she was in India. Anyway, I told her I was tired of arguing with her and I did not want the email offer or anything else. I told her to cancel everything. Today, I had a charge on my bank account for $11.85. When I called to check on why they were charging me, I was told I had kept the email account. I told them I did not and if they checked, they could tell I never used anything like that. They said they would cancel but it would take 30 to 60 days to refund the money and I would only get $10.00 back. Why can't they be charged with fraud or something?

My credit card statement said that they did get their payment. Then, they ended up charging me again, a second time the next day. I ended up paying my October bill twice and they seem absolutely unconcerned about it. They refuse to give me a physical address, only a 1 800 number.

I cancelled Netzero but they started charging a monthly fee to my debit card. I had made many attempts to contact them, but they changed the phone number shown on my bank statement. So yesterday, I once again called the phone number shown on my bank statement. That number now is the phone number of another company. There was a woman nice enough to give me the correct number. I reached Netzero and informed that it is illegal not to provide the correct phone number on bank statements. I then asked to speak to a supervisor. I told the supervisor that Netzero is open to a class action suit for not providing the correct number. I then told her I could contact the F.T.C. and initiate a law suit in small claims court.

She told me that would not be necessary and they would refund all of my money. I will give them thirty days to pay. If they don't, I will in fact file a claims case. Actual damages are small. And if I win, I can recoup my small legal fees. I wonder if the right group of class action attorneys could make this punitive. I think yes. Because even after I let my debit card expire, they resumed stealing money from my account. And they did not provide the correct phone number on my bank statement. It took me about one hour on the phone to speak to a supervisor, and another half hour regarding the phone number that they provide on bank statements. As of 10/3/11, the number (866) 841-1142 CA is incorrect. The correct number is (866) 841-1442.

I noticed charges for $4.95 on my bank statement from Netzero which I once tried to set up an account with but was informed that I couldn't because of my location, so I told them to just forget about it. The guy could barely speak a word of English but I'm pretty sure he said, "Okay, no problem. Your service is canceled."

Now, about a year later, I'm seeing these charges, so I call and sure enough, I get an Indian woman who can barely speak a word of English, and she tells me this has been going on since last May, and she says that I have an account open for Norton Internet Security, which I already have on my computer (I bought it). So, I told her to cancel the account, but we will see the next bank statement. I have a feeling this is not over yet.

My account was terminated in January but I just received a notification stating that it was suspended. Why am I being billed for something that has been canceled? What are you going to do about refunding my money that has been taken fraudulently? Why do I have to go through this ** with NetZero every three or four months? What kind of business model do they have, saying, "We've got your credit card and we'll charge you whenever we want?"

I need this resolved and my money returned. I don't care if it's ten cents. An illegal transaction is just that, illegal. I sent emails and talked to a representative on the phone. I was assured it has been cancelled. Look at the last time it was used. Was it November? Was it December? No one here uses the phone for Internet. It was for a guest who is no longer here. But the service continues to pop up like Freddy Krueger and suck funds out of my account.

Hey NetZero, you **. I cancelled my credit card that's on record with them and informed them that I want my ** money! We all need the CEO's address and email. I will send him boxes of ** with NetZero CDs stuck in them to represent the ** service they provide. Service? Since when is theft a service?

My overall experience was horrible. Rate it as less than zero.

In short, I lived w/my Mom right before she passed in October of 2009 and the number you have on-file (i.e. 816-761-6572) was SHUT OFF in November of that same year; her number (check your records)

Nonetheless, I have continued to be charged for the last 17 months (11/09 to 7/11) for a service I DIDN'T UTILIZE. I couldn't EVEN if I had wanted to; there was no phone service, as stated earlier.

I talked to someone in Billing and they claim there was no cancellation noted on my file (not true) and the best they could do for me was reimburse me 1 month's billing and then eventually, after talking w/a supervisor--2 month's bill!!! OUTRAGEOUS!

I plan on reporting this to the BBB AND the Attorney General's office for the state of Missouri. BTW, your customer service was NOT HELPFUL AT ALL (see above) and actually insulting to offer such a paltry solution. My motto: "What goes around, comes around." Hope you are still in business next year. (sigh)

I was visiting my sister in Florida, who had just purchased a new Dell computer. I put the computer together for her and wanted to connect to the internet and set up email for her before I left to return to PA, since she is not computer literate. I installed NetZero on her computer and then called them to set up a "free" 30 day account on my credit card. I was switched to India and spoke with a man who said my credit card wouldn't be billed for 30 days and that I need the 14.95 version which had Norton Security. I explained that I had just installed the latest version of Norton on her computer and didn't need it. He insisted I did and I insisted I didn't need it. We hung up after several rounds of this.

I then realized there was no modem on my sister's computer so she called ATT and set up an account. ATT would send a modem the next day. I called NetZero back and was connected to an Indian named "Summer". When I tried to cancel the account, she insisted I needed Norton even with cable. I again said I did not want or need anything from Net Zero. After several minutes of this, I asked "Summer" what part of no she didn't understand. She then, in a threatening tone, said my credit card number could end up on the internet for everyone to use. Needless to say I was shocked and upset.

I hung up and promptly called American Express to cancel my card explaining my conversation with "Summer". Also, when I tried to uninstall NetZero from my sister's computer the computer froze, three separate times! I also think Norton Symantec has some responsibility since it's their program that Netzero is pushing.

Today January 6, 2011 at 1:38 pm PST, I have cancelled my account with Netzero through their agent by the name of Vella. I told her that the call was being monitored and that funds could no longer be drawn on the account as I had notified my banking agent to cancel any further transactions. At this time my computer is being blocked by Netzero and will not let me access the new server and is drawing errors created by them. Vella said the account would be closed in 4-8 hours, that an e-mail confirming cancellation would be sent to me. Me and my husband are really trying to find a more efficient provider who is in it for more than just the money. You should not have to pay for help from your provider when you are already paying them every month for service. You may or may not get on any certain day, and this is the way we feel. NetZero apparently is the biggest offender in this area. They did not have permission to use or modulate their services through Frontier's telephone lines. Calling the above number and verifying my account status, I again connected to tech support for free only to hear that they were performing maintenance on their servers. I inquired about a redundancy of their system of having a primary server and a backup server so maintenance could be performed without interruption in service. The tech was clueless in this area. In waiting for 25 minutes to be connected to the tech, the recording informed me of their off hour call times, 11:00PM to 5:00AM. It seems that this would be the time to perform your server maintenance rather than 7:00AM CST. I was able to log on around noon that day.

This morning, I went to log in and received the invalid user name/password error again. Calling the above number and checking my account status, I was transferred to tech support for free to have them reset my password so I could log in and reset my password back to original. It would seem that Netzero is creating technical issues to generate revenue. Let's say you have 500,000 customers calling in with a technical issue and each call takes 20 minutes to resolve the complaint, at $1.95/minute, in one day you have generated $19,500,000.00. Not a bad day's wage for a problem you created. If I know my system is not the source of the problem, I'll be ** if I'll give them a red cent of mine for something they are creating. Too bad the government isn't watching out for the consumer other than these postings.

She said they had already charged my account and would not refund it and that for that amount could keep my email for a year. I did not need or want a email for a year but I agreed just to use the money that I wasn't going to get back anyway. I took the credit card number off my account and when the year was up, they charged my card again without me knowing it until I got my statement one week later. When I called them, they say I didn't cancel it and they did not do refunds. I still don't know how they could charge a card that I removed from my account. I called at 8:51am PST on June 27th 2010 to cancel all Netzero including Norton antivirus and email. They gave me a confirmation number and said it was cancelled. On wed June 30th 2010 I went to withdraw my money from the bank and found Netzero charged my account after cancelling $10.22 thus putting my checking account in the negative so my bank charged me $34 overdraft fee.

I called Netzero immediately after coming home and got the run around by a gentleman who could barely speak English and after arguing with him about what they did he put me on hold without me knowing as I was right in the middle of a sentence. I got another person to talk to and explained the whole situation again and she seemed sympathetic at first but when I started to get stern and persistent she changed her tune and to be exact in her words she said "our billing cycle is from the 27th of the month to the next 27th of the month". I told her that I cancelled on the 27th of June 2010 and she had record of that but when I told her about my bank account being overdrawn as a result of them I asked her if I cancelled between the billing dates do they still charge me? She said “yes". I was so angry that I just hung up.

I got my bank statement and viewed NetZero account taking $14.95 out of my account. I have DSL internet with another company. I was furious as we had tried as when I got married to my husband he had NetZero and I tried them for a few months and did not like them, so I changed providers. This was in March of 2008. I called NetZero last night to question those charges. Spencer was the person I spoke with (if that is his real name). I told him my problem and he said I have two e-mails on file. When he asked me what my e-mail was I told him; he got all anxious so it seemed from my end. Then he told me we had 2 accounts: my husband’s and mine. I asked him then how long have I had an account with them; he really then became flustered again. He said only since February and they would reimburse me for only June and I would have to go to my bank and report fraudulent charges and said someone else was using my account.

He then said, “Hold on, I am going to check on something.” He then wanted my credit card number and I said I am not comfortable at this point giving you my number. He said, “Ok, then I can't check to see how long we have billing your account and who is using it.” He said then it was not my e-mail for sure and he started retracting, saying that I did not need to know because it was just a bunch of letter and numbers. I told him I wanted that e-mail because I was going to give it to my bank. Then he starts reading off numbers and letters as **. I felt very suspicious with this Spencer person. We got back to the billing again and he said since this past February my card has been charged. It was February of 2008 and I had noticed on my statement--that’s how much I pay attention to what is being charged. Not only that, since they have been charging my card, they must have it on file. So I know he was lying.

He said he could check the account if I gave him my card number. I felt at this point I am going to go to the bank in the morning. He can check how long it’s been and how much money I can plan to have returned to my card. I gave him my number as it has already been compromised. He said I have since March of 2010 and I said, no, since March of 2008. He then said, “Ma’am, don't get mad at me. I am just telling you what I see here.” And I then told him, “Would you be upset if you found out someone has been using your card fraudulently?” Still quite upset with me, he said yes and wanted to get off the phone. I thought I would check NetZero out to see if anyone has complained. This company sounds shady for sure by all the stories. Is there anything being done? They need to be shut down.

I wanted to verbalize my brand of difficult situations that I've had dealing with NetZero ISP for the last 4 months. They market a setup disk to introduce their service in Wal-marts all across the country. They promised a free trial offer for their first month of service to attract your attention. As it stands, I was billed $55 for my service plan, and I needed to correct the situation accordingly.

Unfortunately, these folks outsource their Customer Service to the Philippines which sets the stage for a very difficult interface to solve your dispute. In mid-December, I reached an agreement with NetZero and established a credit of $52.50 to offset the $55 in fees for supposedly a free trial offer. I was satisfied until I noticed that they were accounting their credits one at a time, leaving a significant sum remaining on my Verizon phone bill every month.

As a matter of fact, they were planning to account for credits in the amount of $38.75 ($25 and $13.75 respectively) instead of the $52.50 agreed to in mid-December. Another worst-case scenario presented itself in having to deal with folks in the Philippines to get my due. I spent 45 minutes promising cancellation of service before I was finally able to get an intelligent supervisor to post the remaining $13.75 credit onto my bill that gets forwarded to Verizon.

In retrospect, at least 80% of the American market will be discouraged by the slow/sluggish service offered by NetZero, but not myself. These folks are especially quick to bill/charge but tedious and pondering in their attempt to focus on customer service. Wow! For anybody with the ability to read this woe/grief/misery, please think twice before you consider going with United Online, which offers both NetZero and Juno as Internet Service Providers.

At first, I thought it would be a cost-effective way of selecting an ISP, but I soon learned that when you need to deal with folks in the Philippines to handle a service issue that originates in the USA, something is noticeably wrong somewhere. Please consider your options before deciding to choose either NetZero or Juno as your ISPs, because you will be inheriting a difficult (if not impossible) situation in processing service problems. Thanks very much for the opportunity to make this clear, and by all means, have a very nice day.

Two years later, after trying to call and ask about charges, and them repeatedly saying nothing about a "dial-up" account, I get the truth. I have 2 accounts. They charged me $179.40 for one year service. After a lengthy battle and threats to call the BBB, they agreed to credit my account $179.40. I would have to call back later to find out if they approved the other year. Three days later, they will only credit me another $89.70. And the dial-up has been canceled. I wanted to cancel the DSL also, but she said I have to call a different number. What a mess. I am switching to my phone company service!

I would like to know if there is a lawsuit going on that I could join. They steal people’s money from their accounts and have no retribution. Theft is Theft! Holy cow, they are still charging me $5.95 a month for games! I thought it was a free trial only. I never authorized this charge! So now I get to be on the phone another 30 minutes to get this fixed. When you stay with the same company and upgrade to any service, the other service should automatically be canceled. Why would one need dial-up and DSL? They should be charged with a crime!

My bank account suffered greatly during these hard times. We had overdraft charges and insurance that wasn't paid on time because of them. I signed up for netzero service about six months ago, and for the first month or so that I had it, it worked fine. The high-speed meter went to the top and pretty much stayed there, and pages loaded without any problems. Once my free-trial was over, and they had my credit card number, I started experiencing major problems. I have supposed high-speed service, which I pay $14.99 a month for, and it is now so slow that my computer gets stuck all the time, and pages have to be reloaded, if they even load at all. When I first dial up, it navigates to the first page pretty quickly, but as soon as I try to navigate to another page, it says it's working for at least 5 minutes before it loads. I have lost information, and have had to abort and restart my computer so many times I can't keep track anymore. There is a high-speed meter that is supposed to represent the load speed, and it goes up to the top of the meter at first, but then quickly drops down to the bottom and stays there for the entire time that I'm online. I have hooked my computer up to wireless service, and have not experienced any load problems, so I know that it is my service that is super-slow, not my computer. I have tried to call netzero, because my computer wouldn't log onto the internet at all, and netzero wanted me to pay $2 just to speak with someone. Since I've been encountering problems I have tried to contact them via their homepage, which gives me the "contact us" option, but will not load the page that actually lets me contact them. I refuse to pay $2 just to speak with a representative, as I feel like I've been paying and paying, and getting very little in return. I have also had my service disconnect, repeatedly, while trying to navigate pages, and have had it refuse to disconnect, making it so that I cannot use my phone (I do not have a dedicated internet line) many, many times. I try to disconnect, and it says netzero not responding, and I have to go into my internet settings to manually disconnect the internet, at which point the load shortcut completely disappears, and I cannot re-connect to netzero at all, without shutting my system down and restarting. I have also woken up in the morning to see that my computer is online, even though it wasn't when I went to bed, and I never asked it to dial. I have auto-dial disabled, so that is not supposed to ever happen, but it does, whenever it wants to, and without warning. Even with the slowest dial up service, a google search usually only takes a second or two, and with this service, it took me 5 minutes to navigate to this page. It also refuses to load applications when on facebook or myspace, even though everyone else I know can use the same applications that I cannot use. Again, when hooked up to wireless service, all applications work fine, so again, I know this is a problem with my service, not my computer. I'm not sure what to do at this point to remedy my issues, as I can't seem to actually contact someone representing netzero, and I feel like I have been getting ripped off, for 6 months now, and want that money back! If I'd known that netzero was gonna be worthless, I never would have subscribed, and now that I've read some of the other complaints and have tried to contact the company, I don't feel like I can even cancel the service, as I cannot get ahold of anyone. Netzero has my credit card info, and charges me every month, but doesn't provide the services that I subscribed for, and provides no customer support at all. Netzero also forces me to use a certain version of Norton anti-virus, which doesn't stop tracking cookies or other small security risks, which further slows down my system, and requires me to do a full system scan, which takes at least two hours, like once a week to get rid of these things. I am very unhappy with my netzero service, and I would like some advice as to what step I should take next, to rid my computer of all of these issues, and make it so that my system works properly. At this point I am worried about permanant damage to my computer, as I know it's not good for it to restart five times a day, and it's not good for my phone to be tied up when I don't even know it, and I am concerned about my phone getting charged long distance charges for things that it's doing while I'm sleeping. I am required to leave my computer on at night, as windows is set to update at 3am. I do not want to have to shut it down at night, because it will miss those critical updates, and will be forced to try and update in the morning when I am trying to use it, which again slows down my system.

I have tried many times over the last three or four months to cancel an account with Netzero since signing on with Comcast high-speed internet. I thought this was settled and had not gotten a bill for the last three or four months. Now on September 4, 2009, they withdrew $12.94 from my checking account again. I called Netzero and did not get an explanation as to why this happened. I was told by this man I talked to that they would put the money back into my checking account within the next couple of billing cycles. I told him to put that money back in my account immediately. He then said it would be put back in within 36 hours. I am now waiting the 36 hours to see if it gets put back into my checking account. As soon as I get this money back, I am closing that checking account because I have had so much trouble with them.

I called to cancel my "free trial" on July 29th. I had signed up on July 17th through a ‘connect now’ button on my new computer's screen. The gentleman I talked to said, "Okay, no problem. Is there a reason for you canceling?" I replied that we went with another company and I had DSL internet through my phone company. He then canceled my account and offered me a 5 dollar a month back up internet. I told him no. At the end of August, I got an email from NetZero telling me that they couldn't get money from my bank account for my bill. I called them today and was told that I had signed up for the backup service and that I didn't get a free trial because I signed up through the internet. I responded that I signed up through my computer and she replied that my trial was through my computer maker's company.

I replied that her statement made no sense to me at all because there was nowhere on their site or my computer maker's site where I could cancel through the computer company for their service. After being on the phone with her and repeatedly being put on hold for God knows what reason, she came back on and acted like she was doing me a favor by canceling my account (again) and withdrawing the charges. She only did this after I said that I didn't want to talk to her anymore and that I just needed my account canceled again and that when they billed me in paper, that I would contest it with them and the credit companies. This place is ridiculous.

This is still to do with the ongoing case against NetZero about taking my $115.57 off my debit card without permission. Also, that for the whole month of July, I could not buy groceries, my dog's food, toilet paper, anything. I had to wash my clothes in my tub. It was devastating. As I stated, I live on disability, $674 a month. I live in an apartment complex through HUD. All my neighbors are in the same boat I am in, meaning they get small checks a month to survive. On a month, some do not even get a check.

My point is, my neighbors were helping me with food the best they could. My dog and I were eating loaf bread for three days. One of my neighbors found out, bought my dog some food then others gave me what they could. This is an outrage. It was and still is my disability money that NetZero stole off my card. I did not and still do not owe them anything. I cancelled NetZero on June 13, 2009.

I have been with MSN since and NetZero takes or steals my money off my debit card on July 2, 2009, three weeks after I had cancelled. The only, if any, amount I would have owed them would have been $9.99, not $115.57 but any way, Direct Express was supposed to give me back my $115.57 provisionary credit while they so-called investigated. As I told them, "What's to investigate? It is my disability money. NetZero did that without authorization." So, I sent a summary letter to the main company in Austin, Texas on July 3, 2009 at Direct Express' request while waiting for the form to be mailed to me to dispute the claim against NetZero.

I did not get the form until nearly the end of July, although I called Direct Express about it every day asking for my $115.57 back, the credit they promised me. Then they said, "it was denied." I said, "It can't be denied. I called you on July 2, 2009 when it first happened. You said you would send me a form to dispute it but while I was waiting on the form to be mailed to me, I could write the main company in Austin, Texas to write my own dispute summary so I did and sent it off on July 3, 2009." Up till date, I never got my money that was stolen from me by NetZero in July 2009.

I suffered. That was my grocery money, etc. but out of the blue, I happened to check my Direct Express debit card on August 3, 2009, and my $115.54 was put back on there. I was so happy. So, I went shopping and spent most of it, leaving me $14.24 left to live on until September 1, 2009. I put the card up in a safe place. I did not use it for eight days or more but I decided to go to a store called Li'l Cricket. I got four items, a dollar apiece, four dollars. I gave the cashier my card because I still had $14.24 left and to my shock, again, it was declined.

Embarrassed, I went home, called, put in my account # at Direct Express. It said zero balance again. I could not believe this. I was thinking NetZero did it again. So, I called Direct Express. I talked to a woman named Crystal or Christina. She put me on hold, came back and said that Direct Express denied my claim. I said, "Ma'am, that is bull," not the bad word, just ma'am that is bull. It was my disability money and the whole $115.57 was put back on August 3, 2009. The $14.24, it was what I had left from that so now I am broke, zero. I can't buy toilet paper, shampoo, my medicine, any thing. I want my $14.24 put back on my card asap. I have been stressing and am real sick from this.

This is an outrage. I do not want to have to wash clothes in a bathtub again. And I was at the hospital yesterday under anaesthesia. I had a colonoscopy and an EGD, the tube down my throat. The results: I have a large ulcer at the end of my esophagus and a hiatal hernia, I know, mostly because of the stress caused by NetZero and now my own company, Direct Express. I deserve better. I cannot buy the medicine the doctor prescribed for me. I want my money back on my debit card today, the $14.24.

All I want is a bill for the $16.90 so that I can pay it and be done with it. It should not be this difficult to get a bill and pay it off. This sounds awfully suspicious to me. I was told a month free, then $9.99 a month after the free month. But on June 13, 2009, two days before the thirty day free trial was up, I cancelled NetZero and I decided to go with MSN dial up which is three months free and payment not due till September 2009. But now, NetZero and MSN all dial up services say that any access # to dial up may be long distance and show up on your phone bill.

I accept that part because my phone company is Global Connection and my third party long distance is AT&T long distance unlimited local, nationwide, etc. and there were no charges on my recent phone bill I just paid. Netzero was a wonderful service before its acquisition by United Online. I cancelled my account in January 2009. I was not charged for February, but was charged for March. I contacted Netzero and was assured I would receive a refund and that the account was canceled. I was charged for April and contacted Netzero a 3rd time. According to their records, when I called in January, I agreed to a modified service. I assured them that I had not done so. The Netzero rep said they could only go by what's on my account record. I explained that I had canceled the service because I had canceled my telephone service and would not have agreed to a modified service. The Netzero rep said I must have misunderstood and made the agreement.

It was at this point that I disclosed the fact that I had recorded my previous conversations with Netzero and was even doing so at that moment. In February, I canceled the account for my 80-year old aunt. She was charged for March. I have since canceled my mother's Netzero account. I made them aware that if they continue to assess charges, I would not contact them about it but would take the matter up with the Consumer Complaint Division of our Attorney General's office. After learning that I had recorded the conversations, Netzero refunded all charges. For my aunt, it was only by threatening to go to the Attorney General's office that the matter was cleared up. We are waiting to see if my mother's account has truly been canceled or if we'll have to pursue the matter with the AG's office.

In April of this year, I ordered Netzero whilst on vacation out of state because the house didn't have wireless. They offered one free month, so I figured I would take that offer. My account was immediately charged. Moments later, I realized I didn't have a dial-up modem, emailed customer service to cancel the order and refund my account. I got an email later stating I needed to call them. I replied with, "No, I ordered online and I can cancel online. Do it and refund the money". They replied with, "We have issued next month of service to be free" instead of refunding my money. Uh, are you stupid? I said I can't use your service because I don't have a dial up modem.

So last week (this is June now), I saw a charge for Netzero service and immediately saw red from anger. I called the customer service. I explained how they ripped me off and I want this month refunded now. I already paid for a full month I never used and now they are charging me again. The call ended with them saying they would refund it. Today, I saw no return from them and called again and got put on hold then told "It won't go into your account for 1 to 2 billing cycles" - meaning 1 to 2 months. I said "It's going to take you people a month to return 8 bucks? Are you kidding me?" Then the 12th Arab person I talked to said, "What I can do is put you in for immediate refund of money and that would show up in 1 to 2 days". I'm like yeah, do that. Thanks.

Who waits a month to refund money? Well, I have a theory: A company who is thriving off the interest they get from money that is not rightfully theirs to be sitting in their accounts, collecting a month or two worth of my interest. Probably thousands of others as well. They are letting these tens of thousands of people who "forget to call and cancel" or are waiting for a month or two for the money to be returned to their accounts, make them rich by wrongfully withholding money. Let me say, Netzero service is horrible, customer service is worse, business ethic is horrid. I will never use their services again and if I can help it, neither will anyone I'll ever meet in my lifetime.

When ever I have needed a dialup provider I have always looked upon NetZero for that great service. > Until Now... > The customer service representative "John" kept insisting that I keep the NetZero backup service on my account for only $4.95 per month. I told him several times that I was not interested in the service and most likely I would forget and end up paying the $4.95 every month until I noticed it on my credit card account many months afterwards. He haggled/argued with me over this issue telling me that until August is the time that all dsl services providers fail and I would need the back up account. I do feel NetZero was providing a great service until that moment. I have always returned for the excellent service that you have providedin the past. > Now I am convinced that they (NetZero) are (is) just another company looking to make some money monthly by hopefully the customers forgetfullness of not canceling the backup service and reaping the benefits formoney of a service the customer is never going to use but pays for. This is appalling, I have recommended friends and family in the past to you as I once thought it was an excellent service. > If and when the time arises in the future that I need a dialup service provider I will unfortunately look elsewhere for that service. It is very fustraiting to see someone argue with you as they think they know what is best. Is not the customer always right? I guess hard times are affecting all companies but this is not acceptable in any manner for any reason, it is disgusting. I would have thought of returning in the future when the opportunity was given until I encountered this customer service representative John. >I would never have expected this from the company, I can not morally recommend this to any one to endure through; what I just experienced. > I called back to attempt to speak with a supervisor and the customer service representative did not even provide me his name, but had my account information available. He insisted that a supervisor was not available, so I aksed that one call me back after several attempts os seeking a supervisor and just then I was disconnected, how appropriate! I am not prejudice in any manner but the company needs to monitor its call center better from a customers' perspective. How can you effectively handle my issues with representatives that I could hardly understand. I feel this is an injustice, I have a college education and would appreciate someone who also could understand what I was speaking/saying to them in English and recieve that in return. >Respesctfully Submitted,

My monthly subscription was up with Earthlink and since I am trying to cut down the monthly costs, I thought I would try Netzero again. It has been well over a year since I used their service. And, really was quite unhappy with it anyway and shouldn't have even reconsidered using them again. Mainly, they disconnect the service after 15 minutes to 1/2 hr. It's impossible to download anything on the internet if you have dialup unless you can spend ALL of your time sitting there to hit the 'stay connected' button.
So on April 22rd, I loaded the Netzero into my computer again. Got signed in, which took forever too, and realized their ordinary service was WAY too slow, so I attempted to download the 'High Speed' access. It said it would take me a hour to download, I started it and walked away. Came back 1/2 hr later and I was disconnected. I looked at their contact me support page and there is nowhere you can reach anybody or leave a comment. But the tech support is there if you want to pay $1.95 a minute for their f--king service. Why should I pay them to hook up to their f--king service and can't download their high speed crap!?So I tried it again, then again. And, finally I am so pissed off, I shut down everything and went to work that afternoon. Next day, I called and complained. I just told this lwoman, I don't care how cheap your service is, if you can't even download you f--king high speed service before I get disconnected, I just want to cancel the service NOW! She begged me to keep it because I was on my 1 month free service anyway. I said NO, cancel me. Then she told me she would give me 3 free months, and I said NO, cancel me now. She did not want to give up. Then she offered me free tech service and I said that is bogus anyway, it should have been free to begin with. Cancel me NOW! The next week, I look on my online banking and see that I have a charge to Netzero for $14.95. I am pissed! What the hell! I've cancelled the service, yet they charge me $14.95 anyway, even if I was on a free month.

All I wanted was to drop them, but she refused to listen! Why would you keep them around? So what if it only costs $10! I couldn't do anything with it. No email, no surfing either. The pass code went invalid in December. We changed it and 2 months later, I had quite enough. My call to them was to get rid of that useless service. My new ISP is beyond reproach! Now we can actually view YouTube without suffering through an hour of buffering, only to get booted off. I don't think they have supervision at all!

When our phone bill came in, NetZero was still being billed. 2 free months was a pipe dream. I'm ready to contact the BBB to see if they can grease the rusty wheel and actually do something about this scam the employees seem to be running. Mr. Goldston is having his reputation destroyed! She advised me then that I would incur a $25.00 cancellation fee as I had eight days left on my one-year contract. I asked her then to just cancel it effective when the one year was up, and she said I would have to call back. I asked why but she could give me no reason. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, and I was put back in the call queue (I don't believe they have supervisors). I then spoke to another person, and I had to repeat everything I had already been through. However, he stated that the first person, rather than letting me speak to a supervisor, had just cancelled the account and gone ahead and charged me the $25.00. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, was put on hold again, and the same person came back and said that the account was cancelled and they would waive the fee. When I settled into my new apartment, I could not get on the internet. So, I called tech support. The answer to my problem was that anytime I change something, such as my address this effects my service. So, even though DSL is offered the five blocks that I moved, I could not connect to my old internet service. I was forwarded to a customer service rep. The rep told me that because I had was on a year contract, I was not allowed to move. My options were to: A) terminate my contract, pay the $150 termination fee, and start a new contract; or B) keep paying my monthly fee, but not be able to get on the internet. I explained to them my situation, but they would not budge on their policies. I asked to speak to a manager, and they gave me a deal. They said that I would just have to pay for October's bill, and the rest of my contract would be free. At the end of my contract in January they would cancel my service. After this I looked up to see if anyone had the same issues as I was having (this is something I should have done in the beginning). The only issues people had was that NetZero would keep taking money out of their account long after their service was terminated. So, I kept an eye on my account. November and December went by and no money was taken out. Today (January 13th) I checked my online account and saw that they took out their monthly fee. I called customer service, but again they would not budge. They said that my contract isn't up until the 17th, and that I would have to pay this month for the service I do not have. They also said that if I wanted to cancel my service, I would be charged a termination fee. I was told to call back on the 17th to have my contract canceled.

Now, I find out they have signed me up for high speed which I told them 3 times I did not want and was not interested in because I have high speed cable - in fact that was the whole reason for cancelling Netzero, so why would I want their high speed when I just switched to a high speed cable modem?

I just called them again at 11:10am this morning, explained to some woman why I was calling and asked what it would take to cancel my service and after a while of putting me on hold, she finally agreed to transfer me to the cancellation department (which is the department that I was calling), and after 5 minutes of being on hold again, they disconnected the line and hung up on me. HOW CAN I CANCEL THIS SERVICE, AND HOW DO I GET MY CREDIT CARD DEBITED WITH THE CHARGES THEY HAVE CONTINUED TAKING AFTER I FIRST CALLED FOR CANCELLATION AT THE END OF OCTOBER 2008?

About every 3 months, Netzero blocks my internet access, demanding my password. I have changed my internet password to a number, but this is denied as wrong. I Then click on forgot password? to get the hint question. The hint question has never had anything to do with my present or past passwords. I have complained about this many times, but with no results. I am emailing my complaint, because I do not want to be charged $1.95 per minute to talk to a techie who seems not to understand the problem at all. This has happened over and over again, with me having to spend money just get my internet service restored. If Netzero does this to millions of customers, they are making millions on false pretenses.

Hi! Im Mark Goldstein chairman and CEO of NetZero . . .?yea Mark, Ive seen your commercials on TV. Now youre promoting NetZero for everyone having a tough time making ends meet. They should cancel their Broadband and sign-up for NetZero dialup internet service thus saving themselves $300.00 a year. Well, awhile back when I was living up in Buffalo country and couldnt get a signal, I signed-up for NetZero internet service because the only thing I had was a landline. I didnt like it, so I called and cancelled the following day. You billed me $7.47 anyway even though I cancelled my account well within the thirty-day trial period. I let it go, until today. You billed me again for another $4.95 for Norton Security services that I never used. So I called again.
I have wireless Broadband service and I certainly have no need for any Norton Security services, which are next to useless and causes conflicts in the Windows operating system. So after being transferred four separate times by your company trying to cancel this account, I finally succeeded in talking with some who had an IQ above forty. I even have a cancellation confirmation number now and was told that my credit card would be reimbursed $12.42 ($7.47 plus $4.95). Oh how wonderfully happy and content I am nowNOT! Let me tell you something Mark Goldsteinthe shyster. The last thing Americans need during these tough times is another crook ripping them off from their hard-earned bucks. I just finished working on contract for a crook up in Buffalo country that wasnt going to pay me for the ranch work I had done for him. I went to the State Labor and Standards Board and filed a complaint with the Compliance Office and guess what Mark? I got all my money that was owed me. I got to thinking about all the subscribers to NetZero who may have been dissatisfied with your service and cancelled only to find out that they were still being charged by your company. I get real ticked-off Mark when good folks are taken advantage of by people like you. The little guy doesnt have a chance trying to make ends meet when somebody is stealing from them. So Mr. Mark Goldstein, Im standing up for the little guy in America and Ill do everything within my means to make that happen. Im going to let all the folks who visit my website here in the United States and twenty-eight other nations throughout the world know about you and your companys practices. Oh yea . . . before I forget Mark, I went to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and filed a complaint against your rotten practices. The case number is 21245270. Times are tough . . . and theyre going to get a lot tougher by the time Im done with you!

Netzero extracted money from my account after reassuring that they would not extract money before the billing date of January 8 for internet services. After cancelling my service, Netzero deciding to extract money from my account. Netzero failed to provide adequate internet services and was charged for having non-working services since I signed up for DSL.

I actually talked with someone a few years back and cancelled my account. Or so I thought. They're still with me despite that I've gone with cable. Question: can't services like this be 'pinged' or monitored to verify there is no activity?????
(I haven't had a LAN phone for years)

I discovered, unfortunately after 4mos. that I was being charged for NetZero internet service directly out of my checking acct.as a POS $9.95 a month.
I NEVER signed up for their service as I have had the same internet service for 10 years thru my local Cable company. NetZero admits there has been no usage or sign-in to the acct., but refuses to refund my money.Just that they would NOW cancel the acct.I was given a case #. I believe this is an Internal scam, but I cannot get past their billing people.I have asked if they were going to investigate how this could have happened and how they could have gotten my credit card #. I got a vague answer.I asked if they would be getting back to me after they investigated and they said no. Then when I asked when this was actually signed up for, they refused to tell me saying since I told them I didn't sign up for this acct. ever, they could not give me that info??!! I called back again the next day(12/17) and asked for a Supervisor/Dispute Department/Legal department, but Roger(3rd person-Billing Dept.)ignored my request and told me That since I signed up online and didn't catch the 1st charge, this is a valid charge and they will not refund my money. Roger did then tell me this was signed up for on Aug. 29th. He also told me that since their bill is not based on usage or sign-in,just the sign up,it is a valid charge and they would not refund any of my money. I am mostly concerned how they got my card # and info. Again I never even looked at their site, quite happy with the service I've always had,and no one else would have access to my computer and credit card. How could this have happened? I was getting alot of e-mail Spam around that time from this address:Grand Prize Central,8400W.110thSt.,Suite 330,Overland Park,KS 66210. It took me many times of unsubscribing and a few months for it to stop. Could they have somehow gotten into my computer? I do not enter contests, or buy from small online sites.I do pay some bills online and shop at mostly big name stores like Barnes&N oble,Sears,Penneys etc.Could my card number and info been captured from these so-called safe sites?Though I didn't do any online shopping during the time period this happened,I probably did pay bills online tho. I spoke with my Bank and was told to come in and fill out a Dispute form and to cancel that credit/debit card. But they said they could only refund 2 mos. if any after their investigation. This really bothers me because the 1st girl I spoke to at NetZero, didn't seem surprised with my story and told me not to worry about it, that my Credit Card Company would refund me. What?!! This is why I believe It is a NetZero Scam. I wasn't even asked whether anyone else in my household could have signed up for their service, whether I had any teenagers that could have done it,(which I don't,just me and my husband.) We are in our early 60's and money is tight. Where should I go next? I am looking into BBB and Att. Gen.Offices next. I have googled and found other billing complaints about NetZero. Their Parent company I found out is United Online But their home site has no phone info for them and the Contact tab is not clickable! Anybody have any ideas how this could have happened?

I cancelled my account in January of 2007 and Hear I am Dcember 2008 and Im still getting billed. I talked to them today and they said sorry for the miss understanding but my account was actually on hold for 3 months. These people owe me $180.00 and they will not pay up. Its funny how they get your account # to pay for the sevice but when you cancell they continue taking $ out of your account. Net zero is a rip off and I will let other people know.
