Well my experience has been pretty much like all the rest of you. First month: Great connection for the first 20 days, (I KNEW that had to be the start of some kind of scam) then it ran smooth for the remainder of the first 30 days. Of course it did. We had just started using our data allowance. Second month: Starts out okay. A few little hiccups here and there, but no 'deal breakers'. Currently, as I'm typing this, we are 28 days into our second month. Last week I saw a big message on my TV that said 'Slow or No Internet Connection Please check with your internet provider'

So I called Hughes and after about 1/2 hr of "hmmms" and "hold ons," I got disconnected. So I called back and told the new person who answered my tale of woe. They put me on hold while they checked my account. While I was on hold the TV came back on. Then she came back on the line and said that the previous person who was helping me had given me a 'token 2 gigabytes' before he hung up on me. Odd. Whatever... So I told her my TV had just come back on and that all was right with the world once again.

It was all good until yesterday when suddenly the same message 'Slow or No Internet Connection' popped up on my screen. That's when I found this app called 'Hughes Net Usage Meter' on their site that I could download. So I did, then I ran it and it said, "NO NO NO more data for you." No regular, no bonus, no token, no nothing. I took a screenshot of it and posted it here along with an image of their initial welcome screen full of their empty promises. Check them out side by side! Quite a difference, eh? I'm thinking possible grounds for a class-action lawsuit. I'm no attorney but if you all want to pursue this then email me at: **. If I hear from enough of you, I'll contact an attorney to see what our options might be. Then I'll post what I find out here.

I waited for hours yesterday and going on seven hours right now for technician to install the Internet. They are extremely unprofessional, unreliable and if I could see you for them wasting my time I would. I am installing Internet at the cabin so I have to make a special trip and spent hours and hours waiting for them. To no avail, they never did show. And to top it off they already charged me and I have no service and apparently they are not going to make any effort to install the service. They should be shut down. This has to be against the law somehow. The cabin is a simple straight shot 10 minutes off of the 15 freeway, it is not a big deal.

I had to suspend my HughesNet service due to my house burning down. When reactivating a few months later, I was told that the new equipment would be mailed to me. Equipment never arrives. I call again and am told a technician would deliver the equipment. HughesNet technician would not leave the equipment because electric is temporary while house is under construction post-fire (which I found somewhat understandable). Later I see I was charged for two months of service since the initial call to reactivate. When I called and explained the situation, I was told a credit card refund was not possible. I canceled the account there and then. This cost me another $110 on top of the $130 fees for two months of service where no service was received (nor did I even possess the equipment to use it!). Am I missing something, or is this absolutely ridiculous?

After nearly 5 years of "service" that they touted as excellent but is really just overpriced dial up. I CAN ONLY URGE ALL PEOPLE TO AVOID HUGHESNET AS THOUGH YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! 90 dollars a month... Way more than they tell you after all the taxes and hidden fees... Slow speeds... YouTube would buffer so much it was impossible to watch, forget streaming, seriously... Don't even think about it, working from home was impossible, double billing, awful customer service, and above all else... They offer an antiquated service. My hotspot on my android through Sprint blows them out of the water! Just canceled their service. I knew it was bad when my system needed repair and the repair crew that was sent out was in the middle of an active inventory... Was told by the repairman, "We couldn't fix it even if we could."

That single instance sums up my experience with Hughesnet. To top it all off when I canceled... In what can only be described as a complete backfire of an attempt to keep stringing me along their customer service rep told me they could get me a better package for less than I had been paying... Meaning they knowingly and willfully had been charging me more for an inferior package and service plan for the last year. He also admitted what service they fo offer is inadequate and outdated. You can't make this stuff up. This company should be held in breach of contract for failure to provide service they are contractually obligated to provide, sued, and shut down. Period.

I ordered service through their sales department and the lady was rushing me so much that I asked her to slow down. Not surprisingly, she assigned the installation incorrectly to the billing address and not the servicing address. After calling back and having the installation rescheduled, they then assigned it to an installation company (because they don't do their own) that doesn't service the area that I needed the installation. Of course nobody called to tell me. I had to call to find out why they didn't show up. Then when I called back in, they were very nonchalant.

I purchased Hughes Net Internet service, I consulted with Hughes Net and they said that the 20 gigabytes plan would be perfect for a second home for 2-3 people watching movies and for Internet access on a PC. If you watch High definition and don't use the streaming DVD quality saver, you can watch two nights of TV and movies before you run out of data and go to the slow-speed close to 19.2 k dial-up.

Okay, there is a latent propagation delay for the electronic signal to go 23,000 miles to the satellite in the sky and back to earth. However, Hughes Net says their speed is at least 25 Mbps. And if you measure through traditional response time methods, which is what a PC internet browser and email user actually utilizes, the speed is a dismal 3-4 Mbps. Apparently Hughes Network is not smart enough to use ARQ in their satellite transmission; ARQ (automatically gives a positive repose unless an error in transmission is encountered). In summary, the transmission is slow and uses an excessive amount of data for what Hughes Net actually delivers. The service is not worth it and is barely a step above Indian smoke signals or the old wild west telegraph. Do not get Hughes Net if there are any other telecommunications options available.

HughesNet promises great internet speed and service at the beginning. When the installer demonstrated the download speeds and video quality to us we were simply amazed how fast and how clear the picture was. Here it is eight months later and the internet speeds are so slow, our computer continually gives errors message about internet connections timing out. Downloading Netflix is frustrating and attempting to use the internet reminds us of the old dial up days. Trying to use our iPhones for calling on Wi-Fi doesn't work most of the time and when a connection is finally made, the connection is broken, garbled and there is a 2-3 second time lag. Simply terrible service.

We knew the cost of HughesNet when we signed up. It was pricey but it was our only option. It now seems HughesNet has not only taken advantage of us but our internet speeds and connectivity have worsened to the point of being unusable. However, HughesNet has offered to upgrade to the Gen 5 system which will make everything better--don't believe it. You'll only pay more and the service will be great at first but then will degrade to the slow and poor quality service you originally received. Please save your money and use another provider. I wrote a negative review because of poor internet service, but after receiving assistance from one of their Techs, determined that because of their efforts to fix my Internet problems and clear-up my misconceptions - I was WRONG. My service is now much better than it was - not perfect but very useable. I was impressed by the Tech's knowledge and the way she handled my frustration. I tried to modify my previous negative remarks, but could not gain access to do so. HughesNet solved my problem with understanding and technical know-how. Not being able to, OR not being provided with the process to modify a previous comment leaves a gap in the Consumer Affairs program.

We have used Hughes Net for a number of years, and the service has been acceptable up until about 2-3 months ago, when it became near impossible to view a selected web page in a reasonable time. The service has gone from being acceptable to being a waste of money, and I doubt that the reception went from acceptable to useless overnight without some help (my opinion) from our provider. We are looking for another provider, as paying money for a product that is useless is what it is. By the way, when the service went to check in a handbasket, we verified that it was not because of spyware and/or virus problems. The service, almost overnight, slowed down to a snail's pace. Was it because our provider wanted us to update (more money)? I'll keep my opinion to myself, as I have NO PROOF to back-up what I think.

Hughesnet Gen4: I too am forced to pay for an internet plan that does not live up to the advertised speed and access. I recently tested my speed using Toast.net by using my Hughesnet service and then my hotspot connection with my Verizon phone. When running multiple server locations Toast.net without fail shows my hotspot as two times faster than my Hughesnet service. When I go to the Hughesnet Speed Test I get the same basic results for my Verizon hotspot but get a totally unbelievable result when using my Hughesnet service.

The Hughesnet service shows up to almost five times faster than my 10 Mbps plan yet the process took more time. I'm also tired of not being able to stream any movies due to data restrictions and latency/lag/buffering. Even worse is the upload speed of up to 1Mbps, not even fast enough for my security camera/system recommendations. Feel cheated every time I pay a bill or can't get access. Very tired of having to disconnect and reset entire system to get it to work. Looking at ViaSat, Otelco and mobile hotspot as replacement options.

My bill is due on the 12th of the month yet Hughes Net is taking the money out early on the 2nd of the month. I called and asked them to not take the money out of the account until the due date, which does not seem to be a problem with any other bill I have due. Make a long story short they made me jump through hoops. Said they would change and I could only change once a year. No problem. The guy comes back on the phone tells me it is still coming out on the 2nd and now I will be paying more because they are prorating the bill until May 12. So instead of paying 123.59 I owed on the 12th of April and should have another bill due for the same amount on May 12 which is a total of 247.18 they will charging me just under 195 dollars and another 123.59 on May 12th for a total of 318.59 not because I owe it because they want it ten days early.

The speed is not reliable. The only reason we use it is we are very rural and the only other options are the phone company who is even higher because we still live in a privately owned phone company area that was left after deregulation. So we do not have the ATT Uverse option or cable. I URGE ANYONE WHO HAS A CHOICE DO NOT GET HUGHES NET.

When I called in, all some girl named Hannah could say is that, “Yup, it was slow and it would take 3 to 5 days to get someone to call us back about it.” So if it takes 3 to 5 days to get a callback, how long does it take to get some assistance? I talked to several of their people. I asked to speak with someone to close the account and they send you to a line where no one answers the phone. They did me that way two times. The service is nonexistent and the customer service is worse. Yet they begin by saying they are grateful to serve you. While they talk bull about how important customer service is. When the ”tech” came and installed the system and tested it before he left, it seemed to work great. Speed test showed blazing fast speeds, videos loaded quickly and played without buffering. I was so impressed, I recommended it to a friend who was having the same problem with Frontier DSL, and he switched to HughesNet also.

Never again would I recommend HughesNet to anyone. I don’t know how they do it, but after you sign up and have the equipment installed, your internet will soon go downhill. Speeds are slow, videos load slow and buffer, and data allowances are used up impossibly fast. I have 6mb speeds at my business with a provider that is not available here at our residence, and the internet is far superior to HughesNet that somehow will show speeds of up to 24 mb on a speed test. I finally did get a csr to admit they have a problem and agreed to give me a $30 per month credit for 6 months. We can get a very weak cell signal here so I am going to try a signal booster and use data on our phones and get rid of HughesNet once and for all.

Have had HughesNet Gen 5 service for about 1 1/2 months now and just like every HughesNet service it's only good for email and surfing the net. Streaming movies and watching YouTube videos is still a pain, constant buffering making it worthless. I have had HughesNet service for internet for years now only because I live in rural Kansas and have no other choice. I have upgraded three times since having the service to supposedly get faster service and each time nothing changes, same slow internet speeds as the first day I got HughesNet, still cannot stream movies so having Netflix is out of the question, too much buffering and watching nothing over and over and over. Bad thing is every time they come out with a new faster service they tell you will be able to stream movies and play games with no problems, but speeds are still always to slow.

Funny thing is when you first get a new service it works well for a few days, but then slows way down even though you still have most of your data allotment left. You call them and complain and they tell you nothing is wrong and lo and behold service gets better again for a few days and then again slows down. I believe that they are intentionally throttling your internet speed even when atmospheric conditions good to receive a good signal to allow more users. Even at 0300 am speeds are still slow even though this is the time most people are not using the internet and you should have no problem with the satellite being overloaded. In conclusion, HughesNet satellite internet is only good for email and surfing the net. you cannot game or stream movies. If you have a choice do not get satellite service for the internet.

I now believe this was due to the fact that they have a high rate of failure in this area, and therefore a high rate of cancellations. They would not allow any type of trial period or test to see if the service would function correctly, but instead required either a 2yr lease, or for me to purchase the equipment. Since it was much cheaper to purchase the equipment, I took the risk and did so. Once installed, the service never reached advertised speeds, (not even half on the best days) and most of the time it was too slow for a speed test to even work. When I tried to cancel based on the fact that the service didn't work most of the time, they initially would not forgo the cancellation fee even though it was demonstrated that the service was not working correctly. I pay 70 a month for 25 mbps and when the weather is bad the service is horrible, no matter if you have one device or several devices connected, it is still slow, you cannot under any circumstances watch Hulu because the speed isn't good enough, and I would highly recommend another internet provider and I am going to switch as soon as possible. I personally think the service is worth no more than $20 per month.

My husband and I live in the country, so internet has always been a slow running issue with us. HughesNet was the only game in town, so we signed up with them seven years ago. We have paid over $150.00 per month for internet over this period of time. Yesterday, I learned that US Cellular has a tower in our area for $50.00 a month for the same service? We jumped on it, and it is perfect! I called Hughesnet today to cancel our service, and they want me to pay $265.00 in a cancellation fee. They claim I signed another two year agreement 11 month ago when they upgraded us to Gen 5, which was just as slow as Gen 4. I asked them to provide the contract I signed, but the lady, who barely spoke English kept telling me I had to pay the $265.00 to close, or I could keep the service at the lowest monthly charge and continue to pay until the end of my contract!

We have been with them seven years! I asked to speak to their legal department, but she said they were not available. I asked to speak with her supervisor, but she said she is the highest person in the call center. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! She said Hughesnet would turn me over to a collection agency, and my credit would be ruined if I did not pay the $265.00 to cancel my service early-AFTER SEVEN YEAR! I told her to produce a signed contract or a voice confirmation of me agreeing to the terms of this contract she was referencing. She said that would take too much time! Does anyone have a suggestion about how I should proceed with this extortion?

Updated on 03/22/2018: I need to follow-up on a letter I wrote on 03/17/2018 about the misleading advertising and billing practices of Hughesnet internet service. I will not go into all of those issues today, but I do want to report the continuing saga. After finally canceling our Hughesnet service, we received a box with a return label asking for the receiver and equipment Hughesnet installed on our roof for free seven years ago. Now, they are offering to remove the equipment for $300.00.

They gave us 21-days to get the equipment to them or they will charge us in excess of $350.00 and turn us over to the Credit Bureau. This feels like another form of extortion. What if we were not physically capable of climbing on the roof and didn't have the $300.00? So far, Hughesnet has charged us $230.00 to cancel our service, $300.00 to take back their equipment, and $350.00 in fines if we don't do this within 21 days. We have not had a positive experience with Hughesnet, but had to use them, as we live in the country, and there were no other services. It seems like consumers should be protected from these types of bullies.

Do not sign up with HughesNet! I never got the service I paid for! I rarely ever had service and when I finally called to complain I miraculously got service for a day or two then nothing! But accidentally stream one video and “boom”. All your data allowance disappears. The worst part is when you call to cancel your service you learn the contract fine print. It costs $400 your first 90 days to cancel and each month after ninety days only subtracts $15. So if you get fed up after 6 months and try to cancel it will cost you $355, after a year $265, etc...

Also when you call to cancel they try to get you to hang up by putting you on hold for 10 mins at a time. “Oh, you want to cancel service? Hold on one minute while I check the computer”... Ten mins later “I am going to talk to a manager to see if we can lower that cancellation fee, hold please”... 10 mins later “the manager says you are bound by the terms of Your contract. It will cost $400 to terminate. How about I discount your service by $10 a month. Hold please and I will see what I can do for you”... Ten mins later. I am just waiting for someone to sue so I can join a class action lawsuit. I know I got ripped off. Don’t make the same mistake.

You have to live in a world where you adjust ALL YOUR COMPUTER SETTING to make this work better, only to find it barely helps. They expect us to accept this, which is why they demand a contract for their services. It holds you hostage. I have had this service for less than a year and have to cancel it. They must come to your house at least 5 times to "repair" the service, for them to just 'consider' canceling without penalty.

That policy stinks. They really only want your money. They will always demand the early cancellation fees. TRUMP has voiced his opinion for better internet service for Rural areas, which is where I am. Hoping for the Donald to make it happen for us. An Option? I suggest you go with T-Mobile 4G service and get one account to be UNLIMITED which runs 8 devices at one time, flawlessly, and run that device for your internet. The only thing worse than Hughes Net's internet service is their customer service. For months we upgraded our package and NEVER received the bandwidth that we paid for. Customer service had HUNG UP on us more than once. Stated that an internet provider doesn't have the ability to send an email (they must use their own service), and blamed our equipment as the reason our service was sub-par (four laptops, three tablets, three smart phones where all defective apparently). After paying over $170 per month for service that was slower than my cell data 4G connection, Hughes wanted to charge us anywhere between $300-$600 to terminated their service, the amount changed with every service rep we spoke too.

While trying to end our service, one rep informed we that we could not cancel service without their tech validating our complaint about the service and that we would be required to continue to pay for their service if their system said it was functioning correctly. Stay away, do not waste your money or time with this provider.

They put software on your computer that manipulates the access. The basic problem is the service is oversold. I had to cancel service with them as I run a business from my home and internet is vital to my business and well being. They responded with they could not see the email. They responded with a do not reply back email. So how are you going to resend it to them. The tech support on the phone is worthless. You call. Talk to one. They say to monitor the system. So you do and call back with the state codes. That tech have no idea what you are talking about. They then ask you to do the same thing that the other tech asked you to do with no results.

When you call them it says that the call may be monitored or recorded. I really suggest you record the call because the company will lie to you. When you call back and you said your tech said this they will say no they did not. If you tell them you recorded it they will get all mad and hang up. Yes every night at the same time... even when I haven't used all my 10 gigs of monthly data. So I'm on their slow speed putt putt... doing 1.22 to 1.34 mgps which is for 28 days til my data kicks back in.

Why don't I change providers you ask... because I can't get another provider because they don't carry service where I live. So I could only get HughesNet. I'm about to just not even worry about it. Problem is I'm under contract and can't afford penalty. This company is truly the worst internet provider I have ever dealt with. Issue: Within two weeks, service went to virtually nothing. Download speed as low as 8 with an upload no higher than 0.74. Spent two days trying to get through to tech support. After 38 minutes of hold, quit that. Support ticket portal inoperable. So, sent two different emails with the issue and requesting an answer. Silence.

Current: Have now had virtually no internet service due to slow speed, and have spent over 1.5 hours on two calls to support. First guy was knowledgeable, seemed to try, decided it was probably a dish issue, and a tech would call me within 24 hours to set up a service call. No call. Second call to support and it was like the first call never happened. No notes (or he cannot read), and we went through the whole thing again. Still trying to get it resolved. Future: Unknown. The agent in the Philippines said we would actually be paying less for better internet. I complained on the phone so much they agreed to send a tech and waive the fee but after reading other reviews now I'm afraid we won't get credit after we box it up and send it! Another thing worth mentioning is when they have your credit card/bank info, they charge you automatically before you ever see your bill. My bill never made sense and wasn't consistent so I switched to a paper bill and paid $8 more every month for it and made my credit card info unavailable to them. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

When this should have 24 hour service to troubleshoot problems. After connecting my service I realized it was connected to a public network giving me no privacy and allowing people to see what I was doing on my Ethernet connection. Hughes Net should not be in business, they are extremely lousy.

We have had HughesNet for almost 2 years due to living on the mountain and not many options. When we first got it we just signed up for the lowest plan and used the WiFi for our phones. After getting the kids' video games and getting Netflix we realized our plan was maxed out in a couple of days so we upgraded. They talked us into the highest package saying we would get the new members deal for $100 a month even though we weren't new customers. We decided to go with the 50Gb package and the new G5 receiver. After getting it we noticed it didn't work half the time during the day which they blamed on traffic. We decided only being able to use it at certain times was better than nothing but when the first bill was $160 we called and they said they didn't know what we were talking about and couldn't refund the extra $60 they charged.

After an hour conversation they said they would make sure we got the deal starting the next month for 3 months. The next month it was the same $160 charge. My wife called and recorded the message. They said the exact same thing and couldn't do anything but since we were so unhappy they would only charge the $100 for the next 5 months. Third month in a row and same bill. This time when they told my wife they had no idea what she was talking about my wife told them she recorded the conversation and needed a supervisor. She told them half the time we couldn't even use the internet because it cut out and they keep charging more than told. This time they said they can't do anything about the original charge for the month but would go ahead and put a credit on our bill for the next month. 8 days later and no credit applied. Horrible customer service, a bunch of crooks, and horrible service for people who can't get a landline.

I had Hughes as a service provider for several years, first on their Gen4 service and then on Gen5 since mid-2017 until my contract termination in January of 2018. I've used various satellite providers since the early 2000s so I'm aware of the limitations to this kind of service versus broadband, for example. Beginning with Gen5, Hughes has been intentionally misleading customers by providing them with a speedy and unlimited service for the first 30 days (the period within which you can terminate service and not be assessed an early termination fee of $400). After 30 days the speed is about ten times slower and the bandwidth caps begin.

How slow? I had many nights where the download speed dropped below 200kbps (bearing in mind that Hughes advertises 25Mbps). More consistently it was in the 2-3Mbps range for most of the day and evening. At night when network traffic subsided the speed would pick up. Combine that with the 2-3 second latency of satellite communication and the service was virtually unusable. Complaints to tech support result in the runaround for as long as you're willing to put up with it. Hughes has oversold their service, overloaded capacity, and they know it. Yet they continue to sign up new subscribers with the promise of "broadband" speed and streaming on multiple devices... which they know full well is absolute BS.

A complaint to the FCC gets you nowhere (incidentally, you're not allowed to post those three letters on their tech support forum, and no talk of a class action lawsuit is allowed, either). After several months of getting the run-around they finally acknowledged that I was SOL and allowed me to terminate my contract. So long, Hughes! My advice to anyone considering their service is: DON'T DO IT.

Hughes quotes you a total price for everything involved in the installation of their satellite dish which includes the 1st month use, fee and taxes, everything is paid upfront; total cost. Free installation according to Hughes is not free; first thing the installer does is charge you $80.00 for a pole to connect the dish to. Their office rep. takes your complete information, address, email, bank info and does not keep it confidential. They give your bank account info to Security Coverage and they charge your bank account without you knowing. When you contact Hughes they know nothing about what you are talking about. The amount charged to your bank account does not show up on their bill. It just shows up on your bank statement.

I live in a rural area with not many options for internet service. I was using AT&T dial-up service which was dreadfully slow. After seeing HughesNet advertising on TV, which touts lightning fast internet service, I decided to spend the extra money and give it a try. Big mistake. After the technician hooked it up, I immediately noticed that the signal was weak and that it wasn't performing as advertised. I went on the myhughesnet.com, and was prompted by a chat representative to upgrade my plan, and that should help. So after upgrading my account to where it was costing me $86.00 a month, I have noticed no improvement whatsoever.

I then called their customer service representative, who could barely speak English. After 25 min on the phone with a very unhelpful representative who was trying to sell me another upgrade, I requested she send a technician to my house to make sure it was installed properly. She said she would be glad to for a charge of $125.00. I could not believe that they would charge me a fee to rectify a situation that I did not cause. Long story short, if you are considering HughesNet as your internet provider save yourself a lot of aggravation and choose a different provider.

I live just a little bit rural on a private street which does not have fiber cable so I used DSL over copper. It was never very good and would regularly go down. After looking into hotspots etc. I got an offer in the mail for HN at a somewhat reasonable price. I read a few reviews that said it was bad but silly me, I went for it anyway. Learn from my mistake!!! They put up a pretty big dish that is critically pointed to a satellite, so if wind or trees or anything effects the placement, your system will fail. Unlike a TV dish this one has a very narrow beam. OK fine now I have 2 dishes on my house. The first month they give you so called free 20 some days, DON'T BE FOOLED! You cannot see your use. I had nothing but headaches with streaming Netflix, could not stream Prime, and then fell in to the customer support hole. Horrible customer support! If you cannot get an answer from the provided number they refer you to the pay for support line! Geez!

OK, so now the month trial period is over, you have no idea of your actual usage and you start your real first month. Shockingly your usage is incredibly high for simple internet browsing, some internet radio, no streaming Netflix, maybe a YouTube or 2 on FB. By day 9 I was completely out of 10 GB and had been throttled. So if you think 10GB is enough and you use the internet at all, it is NOT. Not even close. IF you want to stream ANYTHING, don't waste your money on this scam of a service. I was constantly getting buffered and streaming would stop 10 times in a 45 minute show. I switched to my phone's hotspot and had flawless streaming, so it was not my Dishnet equipment, it is HN. I am now stuck with this awful service, to get rid of it costs way too much and they know people will hate it, so they give you almost a month of not knowing your usage and by then it is too late to bail.

I also use a WiFi device that monitors a system and it will not even work with satellite because of how it sends info. (Unless I want to reduce speeds to slug bait.) The latency factor is also really annoying, sure you get fast speeds they say but by the time it comes and goes it is not at all fast. And the bad streaming just makes it a total frustration. STAY AWAY! TRUST ME IT IS HORRID! That said, the throttled speed will let you use the internet for simple tasks so if that is all you do, it might work for you IF THERE IS NO other choice! I will never buy Tokens, I will cancel the same day my contract is up!

The agent told us we would need to remove the "camera" pieces and return them in the mailer they would provide to us. When the mailer arrived I disconnected the parts per the provided instructions. My wife documented our return with photos of the parts in the box and the return shipping label. The parts were then returned. After not hearing from HughesNet about our return my wife called to inquire and the agent told her the parts were never received and they couldn't find the package because we didn't record the tracking #. The tracking # was provided to us by HughesNet on the return label. My wife saved all the documentation and provided the tracking # and they found the package only to tell her the parts were not in the box so we owed $200.00.

My wife informed them we had photos of the box contents. The agent then said the parts were all there and would get a refund in 48 hrs. Two days later my wife calls back only to be told they were charging us $200.00 which they drew from our bank acct because the parts were late. My wife explained that we received the bill for the 200 a day after they took it from our acct. After some back and forth the agent assured us we would have a refund in 5 business days. Guess what? No refund. We reported the fraudulent charge to our bank and the money was returned to our acct. Now HughesNet has put the acct into collections for the 200 they agreed to refund to us Twice! I have HughesNet internet service because I live far out enough to where they don't have cable TV or internet service. We bought HughesNet Gen 4 last year (2017) and they slowed down our speeds so we would buy Gen 5 so we would renew our contract, I mean who renews a contract even though you're already giving them more money and buying their Gen 5 so we actually have internet that is usable.

Another thing is that they don't even give you unlimited data and the data they give you is clearly inaccurate from what they say. I watch a few ten minute videos and they say that I used up five gigabytes of data and on my phone it's not even half a gig. I am a PC gamer and I like playing online with my friends but most of the time when I play a game like Overwatch lags so much that I can't even play it or worse it completely disconnects me from the server, one of the first thing they say is not good for online gaming, they are saying that so you can't say that their internet speed is slow for gaming because they warned you. But even so that is still unacceptable. I mean seriously it's 2018, get with it, there is no excuse for internet that cannot connect to servers for extended periods of time.

Also they are way off with their advertising, they advertise they have a strong signal but whenever it's cloudy I can't even put up a Google doc, that's crazy. Usually docs aren't even a megabyte of data. When your data runs out you can expect speeds from 1 meg download and .50 megs on upload, (half a meg), down to not even 100 kilobytes per seconds on both sides. None of those numbers I just gave you are not enough to keep a server connection for a long period of time. I mean the only thing this internet is good for is light browsing (no google docs, pdfs, or slides), an occasional video and some very light downloading. Thank you for reading my personal review and experience with HughesNet. If you want to save a few dollars don't buy this internet, wait until a better internet comes along.

Trust me, I could not transfer service to my new address and they said for me to call them when I am ready to get them again and just to hold onto the equipment. They never contacted me or anything. They just charge my card and I want to cancel and they charge me $300 without letting me know. Just took it out of my account. Half the time the service was slow and I had to use my Verizon hotspot. HughesNet used subcontractor BMB Communications to install the equipment for their HughesNet Gen5 service. This company changed my appointment window without consulting me. I called multiple times over several days leaving messages asking them to call me back to get the installation rescheduled. No one ever answered the phone or returned my calls. I also e-mailed them and received no response. When I called HughesNet they told me it was MY responsibility to contact BMB Com to get the appointment rescheduled. There was nothing THEY could do. The end result was me taking the day off. The first time I heard from this company was when their installer called to let me know he was on his way. He showed up in his personal vehicle (unmarked) and simply said "HughesNet".

We showed him where we wanted the dish installed and where he could run the wiring into the house. We asked him not to mount any wiring to the side of the house. Dish TV ran the cabling into our basement where it then splits off and runs to the rest of our home. We asked him to do the same. Despite this he mounted wiring to the vinyl siding of our house. A HughesNet customer service rep later explained to me that this was not uncommon. Why didn't the installer tell us this? Why did he do it anyway without an explanation? Why not at least mount it to the cinder block wall directly below the vinyl siding?

The installer decided to use the same entry point as the Dish TV cable. The hole was not wide enough so he drilled into the hole to make it wider. In the process he drilled through the Dish TV cable causing the TV to go out. When we informed him that we lost service as soon as he started drilling he said that it wasn't anything he had done. Just coincidence. He later admitted that he drilled through the cable (after he heard me on the phone talking to Dish TV) but assured us he would fix it. We assumed that he would just replace the cable. Instead he cut out the damaged portion of the cable and added connectors to each of the ends which he said he would connect later using a barrel. He mounted the dish, ran the cables and connected the modem. Everything seemed OK. The installer said that he had to run to the Home Depot to grab a barrel. He assured us that once he returned and installed the barrel he would do a walk through.

I expressed concern about the new connectors he added to the Dish TV cable being outside exposed to the elements. He said that he would seal and wrap them to keep them protected. He returned 35 minutes later, hopped out of his car, installed the barrel, burred the cable into the ground and took off. He never came back into the house to speak with us or perform the walk through. Shortly after he left the TV went out again. We went outside to check the connection. Not only did he not seal or wrap the connectors the installer never even crimped the connectors. The wire had shifted causing one end to come out its connector. We had to electrical tape the cable back together.

We were now concerned about the rest of the work the installer had done. We got up on the roof to look at the satellite. The installer had ripped off one of the roof shingles. Instead of telling us this he just sat it back into place. There were pieces of zip tie and wiring scattered around the dish. He shoved the plastic bag the bolts came in behind the dish instead of throwing it out. He cut some sheath off of the grounding wire, made a hook out of the exposed wire and looped it around a random part of the dish. He did not secure the wire to the dish. We followed the grounding wire which lead to the vinyl siding he had mounted the cables to. The grounding wire ended there.

We later reviewed the pictures the installer took and uploaded to the company’s website. He attached a prop to our electrical box making it look like he had run a grounding wire to it and took a picture. He then removed the prop. We then took a look at the cable going into the house. He ran the cable under the ductwork instead of around it. It is actually tight against the ductwork. He ran the cable through the doorway in our basement instead of off to the side the way the rest our cables/wires (including the Dish TV cable) are run. The cable runs to a hole in the floor which leads to my work area. The installer left the modem on the floor.

When I attempted to move it up to the desk directly above it (about 2 ½ feet) I discovered I could’t. There was no cable to spare. The modem was actually sticking up at a slight angle because the cable was so short. I called Dish the next day and spoke to a customer service rep. She assured me that she would escalate the call to the HughesNet Post Installation team. I waited a week but got no response. I called again and was informed that the notes were there but the call was never actually escalated. It was Fri. The rep (Mary) informed me that someone would get back to me by Tues. I finally got a call from Juan ** on Thurs. We went over the info again. He said he would have to escalate the call to their Distributor Escalation team. He said this team would contact the company that performed the install and have them send out a different installer to address the issues.

I informed him that I did not want the same company coming to my home again. He said he would have to get back to me. He told me that I would have to take pictures and e-mail them to him which I did. Another week went by with to communication from HughesNet. I called again and spoke to Juan ** (the paper got wet so I could’t make out his full last name). I went over the info AGAIN. He had me wait on hold while he spoke with a rep from the Post Installation team. I was informed that HughesNet had contacted BMB Com and told them to contact me to get the issues resolved. Despite the fact that I had made it clear I did not want this company coming to my home again. He said that he spoke to his direct supervisor and the MOD. This was the only solution they could offer me.

So to recap. HughesNet hires a company which sends out an installer who is lazy and deceitful. The installer damages my home and doesn’t tell me. He damages the cable to my Dish TV service and doesn’t fix it properly. He botches the install. I contact HughesNet and get the run around. In the end (23 days later) the only solution HughesNet has is to have the company that caused the problems in the first place come back out to fix the problems they created.

I wish I would have done a little more research on HughesNet before I signed up. I would have seen the complaints about that poor service (both the Internet service itself and HughesNet’s customer service). Bottom line. Don’t give HughesNet your business. I know that if you’re considering satellite Internet your choices are probably limited. Go with Exceed or Verizon’s Home Internet (previously called Home Fusion) service and save yourself the frustration of dealing with a company that could care less about its customers.

They did charge me a fee to cancel even though my contract was up. They sent me the box to send my equipment back. Sent everything they requested. Recently I was charged 219.50 from my account by HughesNet. I called and they said my equipment has not been received. Recommend you don't do business with Hughes Net. Hughes Net has been my internet provider since 2014 only because I can't find another internet provider in the area. Still looking. The experience has been nothing but a nightmare. This last summer I upgraded to Hughes Net Gen5 with wishful thinking that the advertisement of faster internet was true... It's worse. My download speed recently has been less than 1.0 Mbps, I have spent hours on the phone with both Hughes Net support and engineering department (next step above support department). I have had Hughes Net replace the modem and techs come to the house. I have a large number of reference #'s documenting my continuous callings.

On December 4th I finally spoke to the engineering department, second scheduled call with the engineering department. The first, I waited a month and learned later they did schedule but neglected to call. On the second scheduled call on December 4th 2017, I was told by the engineering department that a lot of people in my area were having capacity issues and that I would have to wait a month. I asked how I would know if the problem was corrected and was told that the internet would get faster. They gave me some credit for my inconvenience. So I have been waiting, nothing has changed... I continue to pay for a product I cannot use because I am locked into a contract.

I called again last week, spent another 1-2 hours with the support department before I was referred, again, to the engineering department because again it was noted that my download speed was less than 1.5 Mbps. I was again told that the engineering department would call in 3 days. I am on day 5 and no call yet. I could call again, and I will, to the Hughes Net support and spend another 1-2 hours for them to refer me to the engineering department who may or may not call. Instead of calling them today, I am using my 1-2 hours to contact and place a review with Consumer Affairs. I am reaching out for advice and also to recommend to anyone who reads this, to avoid doing business with Hughes Net. If you have another internet provider in your area, use them instead.

We previously used Wildblue satellite internet service provider and they were both expensive and unreliable. Switched to using an AT&T mobile hotspot which worked OK but was super expensive and data was capped to where we could not stream movies (like through Netflix). We are now on a Hughesnet contract. Can't get the 25 mbps they promise but speeds are OK. Issue is with satellite latency which means a LONG time for any command from out computer to get to satellite and back meaning trying to access a website often means a timeout. When streaming movies, we can't get great quality because of low download/streaming speeds but can watch movies. Sometimes there is significant buffering which should not happen IF their 25 mbps speed was real.

At peak times, performance is noticeably degraded. Their supplied equipment works fine and I purchased a range extender which picks up their router signal and relays it up to my shop office a couple hundred feet away. All in all, this ISP is a bit better than using a mobile hotspot because the 50 meg plan allows plenty of data (we were on a 32 meg hotspot plan).

HughesNet maintains that it is America's number 1 rated satellite internet service. In that statement alone is how we will start here. That statement may very well be true, but how many other "top name" internet providers do you know that use satellite? Very few more than likely and there is a reason for that which is unless it is a perfectly sunny day you will experience buffering and lagging speeds. One very big detail to know before calling them is that HughesNet runs the service very much like a cell phone plan and very little like an internet plan. It is not like other internet providers where you pick a speed and pay that price, you must pick a data plan. The highest plan in my area is 50 gbs. Now when that runs out each month your internet service slows to a crawl until the monthly plan rolls over.

So you say, "Ok just buy an unlimited plan," right... "No sir. Sorry. Does not exist." If you go over your limit and you want your speed back before the next month you have to go through the token program. The lowest token is 3gbs which is nine dollars (and would last basically four hours if you live alone) all the way up to the highest which is 25gbs at a whopping seventy five dollars (keeping in mind for the largest plan at 50gbs is just over 100 dollars a month). HughesNet's answer to this is, "Well hey we have a great deal for you because every month we give you a bonus 50gbs which totals your monthly data out to 100gbs." Yes they do give you this but the bonus 50gbs only activates during non-peak hours. You're saying, "Hey Mike that is not so bad, non-peak hours are just a little bit later in the evening." Yes with decent companies they are. With HughesNet non-peak hours are only from 2 am to 8 am.

Basically when no one but a teenager on the weekends could make use of to any real effect. HughesNet is part of a growing collection of smaller companies that realize they can make "big name internet" (Comcast, Fios, etc.) money without having to do a whole lot of work. I use HughesNet out of having no choice. I moved to Alabama from my home state of Maryland where I was used to internet providers like Comcast and Verizon who acted like internet companies. Where I live now HughesNet is the only internet choice available, which is a key factor. Companies like HughesNet service southern areas and lock communities down to where they are the only option, so they can do and charge whatever they plain well want as you cannot go anywhere else.

It is also why they run the service like a cell phone plan instead of an internet plan, as it gains them massive profits very quickly in a world that has become internet reliant on a massive array of things. In my personal opinion the way they run is disreputable and purely immoral as it is done simply because they can with no consequence or loss of customers. Unless you have absolutely no choice like myself, stay as far away from this service as possible. I mean their own slogan says it all, "1,000,000 happy customers." Do you know how small that number is comparative to the population of the United States and people who pay for an internet provider? It is next to nothing. Stay away from HughesNet and just about any satellite internet company, most are small, crooked companies whose service can only be enjoyed if it is seventy degrees, sunny, with no clouds in the sky, and no wind blowing at all.

I was required to return the modem back to them and was told I'd receive a box with a label to send it back. When I first got my service installed, the installer was super unprofessional and sat on my bed. Then he set up the satellite so that it was point directly at a tree. I asked him to move it but he refused. After that the service was not very good, you were able to load like MAYBE a Google search sometimes. Pretty soon after that, the service stopped working completely and I tried calling to have someone get it fixed but they said that I would have to pay $200 for someone to come out to get it working again. I couldn't cancel at that point because the cancellation fee was just as much as paying the monthly service fee, like $500.

So, now a year and a half later, I've been paying $74 a month for this garbage service and have also not used any internet in that time. To top it off, when I call the customer service number, the agents are so unhelpful and nasty. I honestly cannot believe how awful this company in every way. It's disgusting how they treat their customers and get away with it.

Unfortunately HughesNet, is the ONLY internet provider offered in the very rural area where I live. They are the worst internet provider I’ve ever had. If it so much as Sprinkles, I lose my WiFi connection. Let’s forget about calling Customer Service for any type of Real help. You’re on hold for at least 10 mins, and when they do get on the line, there’s never a resolution to your problem. They’re a bunch of crooks! They charge way too much ($88.26 monthly for Gen 4 - and that is for Internet ONLY. I have Dish and do Not stream any movies).

I did NOT receive a Router when my Service was hooked up, but was told I would. Never got one... Then was told the “problems” was because the Linksys router I had to purchase in order to have Wifi, wasn't compatible with their system! Another big issue was their installation. The kid they sent out to do the initial hook up, literally unscrewed the screw on top of my AC unit and twisted the ground wire around that in order to “ground” the Internet. Who does that?? If you have any other choice I would highly recommend going with the other guy because this company is pitiful.

Not to mention your call center makes you wait hours to talk to someone, transfers and then disconnect then is rude to me. Supervisor was yelling at me and talking over me. I called in our trial period and they have still not resolved. It takes 15 minutes just to load an email on my computer. We have speed tested it on the phone multiple times with HughesNet and confirmed it operates at an average of 3-4mbps when according to THEIR customer service it should be at an average of 25!! I’m in a contract we can't get out of even though we are not getting service we paid for.

The data runs out in the first day because EVERYTHING just sits there loading. Forget watching tv, a movie, Hulu or streaming a YouTube video... You can't even open an email. Still unresolved! Ugh where do I begin? The Good. The install was professional. Now the Bad! Dog ** slow internet 2 year contract. I could only take 2 1/2 months of this internet provider before I cried UNCLE. Why might you ask. Gen 5 satellite went offline for 24 hours. No Word from Hughes Network. I call them. Line is offline. You can't make this ** UP. Data gone after 2 to 5 days. If I buy tokens it 350 a month for glorified dial up. Just browsing the internet was an ongoing challenge. You would go to print up a label and when you clicked on print you could go take a piss and beat it back before it would open. OMFG if you opened a web page to read and were on YouTube listening to a tune all hell broke loose and the song would skip like a badly scratched vinyl 33 LP record. Did I mention it was SLOW so after 2 1/2 months of torture I pull the plug but wait. You can't cancel 1/2 way through the month.

You must pay the rest of the month and the 385 dollars for early cancellation which I knew and was willing to accept. Yes just a nice little parting gift for your leaving the family. Last I knew even before I signed on that it was going to be Bad. Real Bad. The reviews were just terrible.Very rarely can any company exceed their ratings but Hughes Network knocked it out of the park. Before going with Hughes Network I called MetroCast. They were highly recommended by people in my area but they would not even take me until my new address was in the system and I just could not wait 2 to 3 weeks without internet running an online business. My point Bad decisions lead to heartache and sorrow. Learn from my experience and find something else unless you like pissing 600 plus dollars out the window in 2 1/2 months and just a ton of aggravation.

We don't have cable/satellite so we watch Hulu and Netflix a lot. Our family will all be in the living room trying to watch a show/movie with no other devices being used on the wifi but all it does is spin and say "loading." We had been looking forward to watching the NCAA Football Nat'l Championship game. It froze up and we ended up watching it on our cell phone. It's not even worth the money to sit and watch it. I am not exaggerating when I say it does it to the point that we all find something else to do. I've always lived in town so I don't even know what other options are worth trying. Plus, I will be working from home starting this summer and it scares me to know I would have to rely on this. Something will have to change and soon.

I live in a very rural area. I have AT&T DSL which doesn't work for streaming. I called HughesNet to add the service along with my DSL with the intent to only hook up to my DirecTV. This way I could at least use them On Demand. The salesman was great. Before I got off the phone with him I clearly asked: "what if this doesn't work? Is there a trial period?" His response was clearly "no problem! If it doesn't work within the first month, let us know and we'll take it back." I called today which is ten days after having it installed. They are charging me $400 to cancel the service. I let the customer service agent, Joshua **, know about the conversation I had with the salesman. He said "it doesn't matter what he said, this is the rule that his supervisor set forth."

I asked to speak to his supervisor and he told me that he was unavailable. He suggested that we go through a "few" steps to try and get it to work. This would be documented and show that they tried to fix the problem. If it didn't work he could get the $400 discounted. We were on the phone for 2 hours and 21 minutes. I finally had enough and told him that this isn't working so let's get that discount. He said that he would have to hand me off to the "advanced technical" department. With all the respect I could muster at this point I told the gentleman to just cancel my service and I'll pay the $400.

I had to repeat myself numerous times for him to finally agree. In order to cancel, they will send a box to your house. YOU have to get on the roof to take a piece off of the dish and send back with the modem. They charge you if they have to send someone out. What if I was elderly? This company is ridiculous. I was more than willing to pay for the entire first month and the installation charge that they gave me for free. My 4 MBPS from AT&T is far more faster than their advertised 20 MBPS. Streaming wouldn't work where I live, though I was promised that it would. Standing by their word and advertisement is not high on their list.

After one month of service with HughesNet, the internet speed decreased. I have spent over 200 minutes on the phone with tech support unplugging and plugging up the modem and restarting my computer and counting how many seconds it takes for a website to load (which is over 60 seconds). We have rearranged our weekend plans so a technician could come out and reposition the dish to a different satellite. And usually after I get off the phone with tech support, the internet will work for about a week before I have to call them again. This last time, however, I couldn't get internet access.

Additionally, HughesNet does not work on cell phones. My husband has Verizon and I have Sprint, and we both have to disconnect from HughesNet so the internet on our phone is faster. The problem is we live in an area that has poor cell service, hence why we have to have satellite internet. Sometimes our speeds are so slow they are measured in KBPS instead of MBPS and the technicians on the phone act like that is something new; however, I have read so many posts where other customers are experiencing the exact same thing. I find it hard to believe they have never heard of this before.

After 60 minutes on the phone with John ** who couldn't fix the problem, I asked to speak to someone to cancel the service because it doesn't work. Then I got connected with Tony ** (not sure if they are related), who is adamant about charging us an early termination fee BECAUSE THEIR SERVICE DOESN'T WORK. I can't help but to feel like they have some sort of system that is fast enough in the beginning until you are out of your trial period, then they slow it way down. Are the early termination fees how they make their money? Any advice on how to handle this issue is greatly appreciated.

Oct 2017 we upgraded to HughesNet Gen 5 and used Directek for the installation. Technician Alex installed leased Wifi device in same 2nd story location as the old Wifi. Alex left the old personally owned Wifi as an extender because it was late and they were too lazy to pull cable to the 1st floor living area. In fact, Alex never stated we needed an Extender to get a consistent signal in the Living area to get the consistent Wifi signal they promise of 25 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload. HughesNet states since I signed off on the install they want to charge another $125 to come out and for $99 I can purchase an Extender/Booster from them (we have a apartment 48 ft away but we never expected wifi to reach it).

Until recently we were not able to download Video on Demand with DISH, which was installed a few days prior. We just thought it was HughesNet usual terrible service. Recently, I spent days running speed tests and on phone with HughesNet's Tech Support who corrected an Engineering problem. I’ve spent days on the phone with Adam at Directek who has put my request into HughesNet Service system, but HughesNet kills the service request and does not issue a Work order to send a Tech out to correct this because of their above statement that I signed off on the installation. I am not a Tech so I have no way of knowing what a satisfactory installation job is/was and rely on these professionals (who I give/gave a lot of $$ to provide this service).

Directek Techs left tools and trash all over my backyard. The system is still set up just like Alex left it. Slowest speeds are 736 Kbps download/278 Kbps upload. Rarely do they ever reach usable speeds. HughesNet Tech says I should stand in front of their Wifi if I want a desirable speed and Wifi has a reach of only 10-15 feet. That’s funny since we never had a problem with the old Wifi. Why should I give any of them another $125 to fix their botched install? HughesNet states they will not send a supervising manager to correct this issue. I have never had a problem with purchasing an Extender if I had ever been advised that I needed one to reach Living area.

The biggest crooks in the satellite industry. OUTRIGHT THIEVES! They promised me $50.00 refund for signing up on the day I did, and then when the salesmen was finished getting my info, he told me he liked me so much, he was going to send me $100.00 instead. He said I would receive it within three weeks. He quoted me a price for my service, and said it was good for one year, and then it may go up a few bucks. I never saw the $100.00. I never even got the price he promised me.

The first payment I sent them was with an electric check from my checking account. It was an agreed upon amount after me complaining that their monthly fee was $20.00 per month higher than I was quoted. The next bill came, and it was even higher. I called them and told them the amount wasn't what we agreed on, and I even gave them a confirmation number. They said they would call me back. Instead, they just took it upon themselves to take twice the amount from my checking account, and I didn't even know about it until I got my bank statement. My bank told me that since I gave them my checking account number, there was nothing they could do about it.

Then, out of nowhere, they started taking money from me at will. They stole over $400.00 out of my checking account. I eventually had to go to my bank, and close my checking account! That was the only way to stop them from stealing from me. I ended up having to close a bank account that I had for 20 years, because these thieving crooks were stealing my money from it. They are by far: The worst company, and the biggest thieves, I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with in my life. Rather than have them come back to my home for their equipment, I chose to climb up my roof and take it down myself, and mail the router and Sat Dish back to them at my expense. What was to be a 49.99/month bill has always come to 70$/month once all of their fees were included. 70$ a month for 10 GB OF DATA. Honestly, I don't know how this company is still in business. I was told that would allow me to watch a few movies a month (HA! Absolutely inaccurate) in addition to email, social media etc... Watching one movie would use nearly 5 GB of my monthly 10 GB allowance.

The connection speed is incredibly inconsistent as well as slow. ANY length of video buffers... My computer is new, so it is definitely the connection speed. I have called countless times due to speed, lack of connectivity, ridiculousness of cost for what I actually get. There is no real answer beyond, that is how satellite internet works... It can be spotty... And due to living in a rural area, those speeds are typical.

These things may be true, but if that is so, and they are aware of the issues (which they clearly are, based on the reviews on their own website), do the appropriate thing and tell people what they should actually expect from your service and charge less. I had HughesNet Internet Service installed 8/7/17. They have a great sales pitch and TV advertisements. Unfortunately, I did not read reviews before installation. Over the next few weeks after installation, the service became slower, slower and slower - sometimes having NO service. I finally called customer service 9/4/17 at 8:00 p.m. The C/S rep (Ramone) spoke very poor English and I could not understand half of what he said. I stayed on the line with him until 9:30 p.m. as he tried to repair my service electronically. He advised my connection was 89% SLOWER than the HughesNet average - my modem was 96% SLOWER than the HughesNet average - my download speed was 96% SLOWER than the HughesNet average. My upload speed was 99% SLOWER than the HughesNet average.

Ramone lost my internet service completely at 9:30 p.m. and transferred my call to "Home Tech Support" which, if I believe is in New York, and the rep there spoke fluent English. Home Tech Finally answered at 10:02 p.m. (another wait of over 30 minutes). After running several tests, Home Tech Support finally electronically "repaired" my problem at 11:18 p.m. and gave me a case # and phone number, advising this case # would be available for 72 hours if I should continue to have problems (3 hours and 18 minutes after I placed the call to HughesNet C/S).

9/6/17 problems continued and service became slower and slower when I could occasionally get a connection. I called Home Tech Support at 10:00 p.m. Note: I do not use the internet a great deal during the day. Most of my internet usage is in the evening. After running several tests, he was UNABLE to run speed test from his end, was NOT getting speed I should have. Could NOT explain the fluctuating speeds I was getting. He stated he "thinks this is a HughesNet service problem as he was UNABLE to run HughesNet's own test." He advised he would generate a report stating I have a service problem.

He gave me another case # and advised me to call C/S and immediately ask for a Supervisor as he was UNABLE to connect with HughesNet which was "A Big Red Flag" that the problem is HughesNet. The call ended at 11:00 p.m. so I waited until the next day to call HughesNet C/S. Thursday 9/7/17 I called HughesNet C/S and spoke with another C/S/ rep who spoke very poor English. I immediately asked for a Supervisor and he advised me he was "highest management".

To make this long story shorter, a technician was sent to my home on Friday 9/8/17 to check my equipment. The technician checked my equipment and advised "this is a HughesNet problem". I then called Hughes Net to cancel service. Again, I spoke with someone who spoke very poor English. They sent a box to return the necessary equipment on Oct. 11th. I did return on 10/12/17 and it was delivered to HughesNet on 10/16/17. 11/9/17 I received a bill from Hughes Network Systems for $471.83, advising my service would be TERMINATED for non-payment if not paid within 7 days??? I called C/S and was advised I owed $400 for "early termination". I advised HughesNet was unable to provide the service I was paying for (per two HughesNet employees and associates) and I would NOT pay $400 "early termination" charge.

Hughes Network Systems has now turned me over to a collection agency for the $471.83. I have replied to the collection agency with a lengthy letter explaining why I would not pay this amount. BEWARE of this company. I believe all their C/S and technical support employees are located outside the US. I also believe they sell service in rural areas that they are unable to provide. When customers discontinue service because of FRAUD, the company then turns them over to a collection agency hoping they get the "early termination fee". Perhaps this is how HughesNet makes its money.

    Punctuality & Speed

Poor service, slow speed, and a rip off. We went with them hoping to save money, but when we could no longer take the painfully slow service, we decided to terminate the service. Unlike other internet providers, who are concerned about their image, we were told that we would owe $15 a month for the remaining 19 months we have. Honestly, we are willing to pay the fee to escape such a poor set up. If HughesNet is the only way to get wifi, I'd suggest you string a bunch of coat hangers together and strap them to your chimney--surely you can get a better signal by doing that than by signing up with them.
