I have been with State Farm insurance for about 30 years and always have paid my premium on time. This insurance included car, home owner's RV vehicles, and travel trailers. I have a mining claim 45 miles from my home. I ask several times if anything was stolen from the claim would my home owners insurance cover it. I was assured several times that there was only a $500.00 deductible but everything else would be covered, just keeping paying your premiums.
In January of this year, I went down to begin the spring clean-up work. I found that my cabin had been broken into and about $8,000.00 worth of mining equipment was stolen. I told my local insurance what had happen. They asked me if I had ever sold any of the gold. This mine is just a hobby for our family and I have no intention of selling any gold. However, I did trade some gold for tractor work one time. Their reply was because I did receive goods for gold that now it was a commercial gold mine and of course, my homeowner's policy would only pay out $250.00.
I felt that I was deceived from the very beginning. I have not yet filed a complete police report of all that was missing because they said they would not pay. My son-in-law is the policeman that took the report and he can add the items which were stolen at any time if it would do any good. How can I get a fair deal on 30 years of loyal service? Thanks for any help.

On June 4, I called the State Farm Office to renew my homeowners insurance and was told that they cannot renew my homeowners insurance because I had two claims in the last 3 years. One was a home robbery and the latest one was a bogus lawsuit of a property owner across my back yard, who took advantage of a snow storm that brought down some branches of a pine tree in my yard. This snow storm happened on February 10th and on the 26th. Some branches have fallen on a wooden shack of his and I was taken to small claims court on May 17th. I had supporting pictures with the dates (March 3rd) that all the braches have been removed from his shack and there was no damage.
I was sued for $2,000 but only lost $1,020 (so the insurance told me). I did not get any documentation yet. The case was handled by a lawyer from State Farm who did not do the best job and I probably would have been better defending myself. A week after the case of May 17, I found out that the estimate that the plaintiff took to court was from my next door neighbor. The estimate was for a brand new shack and he was not aware that it had to do with me.
Unfortunately, the lawyer said we should go with the arbitrator rather than the judge because our case looked favorable for us. Now since we went with an arbitrator instead of a judge even after we find out the truth about the inflated estimate, we cannot appeal and now have lost our homeowners insurance because of a snow storm! I lost my homeowners insurance and small claims court case because of neglect of the insurance company. I thought that’s why one has insurance in case something happens.

Betrayal from State Farm Insurance, do not get State Farm Insurance. I have been a customer of State Farm Insurance since 1998. I have (had) my homeowner's policy and over the years, several vehicles insured with them. Recently, I received in the regular mail a notice of cancellation of my homeowner's policy. Why? Because I have had three claims submitted. Two claims were submitted in 2008. One claim was for hail damage to my roof. This claim was denied and $0 was paid. The other claim was for a water leak from my refrigerator water line breaking. This claim was denied and $0 was paid.
In March of this year, my car, along with several others in my neighborhood was burglarized and my laptop computer was stolen. On May 19th, I received a letter stating "the insurance coverage is not acceptable to State Farm Fire and Casualty Company due to your loss history. " Not the number of claims submitted, but my loss history. The total amount of my loss history is a total of $528.20. When I called the local company, I was told that it was because of the number of claims submitted, not the amount of claims. I was never informed that a submission of any number of claims in a certain year would result in the cancellation of my insurance. In addition, when I submitted the final claim for theft, I was not informed when I went into the office. I am outraged.
I have paid thousands of dollars over the course of 12 years to this company and I was simply tossed aside. When I called my local office, I was just told that three claims and you are out. I am a 56-year-old grandmother trying to hang on to my house and make house payments by myself and I'm barely hanging on. This policy is outrageous and completely devoid of any semblance of customer services or consideration. My experience with State Farm has never been good, but this is simply unforgivable. After finally speaking with the local agent, he informed me that this was simply the policy. I am not just a number and refuse to be treated like one. I am telling my story to stop someone else from being treated so badly.

I was recently denied a claim filed dated On February 2010 regarding claim number **. I was advised I waited too long to file a claim despite the representatives I have spoken to. I had to wait as long as three weeks to hear from someone only to be advised, when I called back, someone will get in touch with you. I recently received a certified mail from the company denying to file a claim and despite the 20 plus years of service I have committed to this company, feel wronged by being denied a claim. I did everything the agent advised and was told by the claims adjustor that I would certainly be covered. Is there any recourse?

Well to start, when hurricane Ike came through my one year old roofing (as did many others who suffered through the storm), it began to leak. I paid my homeowners insurance each month with my mortgage so I figured I would be able to file a claim with my insurance carrier (State Farm) and have the roof repaired, not redone but repaired. Well, everything else was paid for the leaking windows/paint, carpet cleaning, spoiled food, etc. My State Farm insurance adjuster went up on the roof with my contractor and came down and told me, "Your roof was put on incorrectly by the builder! You need to get them to come out and repair the roof." My contractor, to my surprise, agreed. Well, keep in mind the house was only one year old when Ike came through.
Here it is May 2010 and my house is now three years old. And I have a bad roof that still leaks and 27 more years to pay for it. And I am forced to pay State Farm Insurance as well each month! The anchor of the house cannot be repaired because the builder put it on incorrectly! Amazing! I have recently called out a different roofer and he agrees! The flashing which is supposed to form a seal to prevent the water from coming in is an inch too short! And he agrees that it was the builders fault. Both the contractor and roofer also agreed the attic is not vented correctly which may be the cause of my shingles "rippling" when it gets hot. When I called Meritage after the initial inspection, they said It is not our fault! The roof passed inspection!
Two years later, I still have leaks in a three-year old house! Why? Because State Farm feels as though they have sent two adjusters out (one, being an elevated roof inspection team that I never saw because they came when I was not home). They refused to send out another inspector and want me to pay for an engineer or impartial inspector to come out and do another inspection to re-submit the claim for review. I have a three-year old house with roof leaks that no one will repair when I pay insurance and it was not leaking prior to a hurricane! Amazing! And the $8400 they kept for the deductible could have more than paid for said roof!
Also last summer, I had field mice coming into my house. Guess how! I have a fireplace in my bedroom that sits on a piece of the cement foundation which is located in the backyard which has a field behind it. Well, whoever installed the fireplace did not nail the hardi-plank onto the back of the unit. There also were holes in the cement base and the mice were climbing into these holes through the unit and out through the vents in the front of the fireplace and into the house! I (a single female) had to get down on my back and find the holes and fill them in with cement myself after speaking to Meritage about the problem. They came out and the foreman fixed the problem by installing a flash (piece of metal on the top of the unit which apparently had been left off as well) assuring everything was now repaired. Well, he had not fixed the problem! It was not until I was awaken in the middle of the night shortly thereafter by yet another field mouse and took matter into my own hands that I was able to fix the problem myself by cementing the holes myself. Temptation to walk away has never been so great!
I pay a pretty penny for this 4000 sq foot home and I could not be more unhappy! I moved out of a 1600 sq foot home built by Beazer and I never had any of these types of problems. This house has been a complete nightmare and I would never recommend Meritage to my worst enemy!

My home has had bad roof damage from the many bad storms here in Arkansas. The roof has been leaking into our den. I filed a claim with State Farm. It has been over 2 months, no one has came out or contacted me about this matter. They are a very poor insurance company. Damage to my rug in the den, the wood frame around my rear door just fell apart from the water.

Well! We had major flash flooding on May 1 and 2, 2010. I called on the first day and put in a claim, because we suffered some damage to our fencing. They never gave me a claim number that evening. The next morning, we got hit again; but this time, 4 feet of water both front and back and flowing at a rate that carried a policeman's patrol car and left him hanging on a tree for over an hour! Water filled our garage, destroying all our appliances.
I called again that day and was told someone would call within 48 hours. This was Sunday. On Wednesday, my father had died and we had to leave to take care of arrangements. I called, begging to talk to someone, and finally got an adjuster on the phone who could care less about what I was going through. He kept stating the government would not pay this or that and basically stated that "FEMA controls how much you will be helped, even with insurance"!
The adjuster showed up on the 16th and stated it would be at least 14 more days? What? The railroad is right behind us, and neither the feds or city had ever cleaned out the storm drain holes under the track. Our fencing is not covered. We have 15k at least in damage outside the house that the "government" does not pay according to State Farm!

I received a letter from our insurance company, State Farm, stating that since they had paid a claim for $5,323.55, they were cancelling us as of April 29, 2010. The claim was for water damage in our basement. We have been a customer for 17 years. We also have 4 cars insured with them. They've paid only one homeowner's claim.
We submitted a claim on 05-25-05 for a broken water pipe which caused basement damage. They denied the claim, because the pipe that broke and caused the damage was located outside and they said it wasn't covered. They stated the reason for cancellation is because we have had claim activity. What's insurance for if you can't submit a claim when needed?
We are excellent customers and have never been late on a payment in the 17 years that we've been a customer. Do we have any recourse or do we just have to accept this unfair behavior on their part? An agent also called my husband a couple months ago and said they were raising our deductible from $500 to $1,900 because they had to pay our claim. A short time later, we received a letter saying they were cancelling us.

I sent for an online homeowner's quote. PK contacted me. I told him my house is old. He said that would be no problem. He took my downpayment and he said that Matt was coming to take pictures. I never saw him but they said the pictures were taken. I waited several weeks and called and PK said not to worry. On April 5, 2010, I received a letter stating that my coverage would expire on April 16 '10 because the pictures weren't sent. I called the office and PK said Matt would be out to take more pictures on April 10.
I received a check for $52 so I am out over $100 and I will have no insurance and no explanation. I have never been treated this way by an insurance company. I would not recommend them to anyone. This has caused me emotional and financial stress. They should have told me up front they couldn't insure the house and I would have kept my other coverage.

On January 17, 2007, my house caught fire and burned completely to the ground. Me and my family were devastated. We lost everything related to house hold goods, but no one was hurt in the fire. The next day January 18, 2007, the Insurance company showed up at my home and the remains were still smoldering, they assured me that everything would be okay. Well, here it is April 9, 2010 and the claim still hasn't been settled.
I have been paying State Farm Insurance Company for ten years and when I really needed them they denied my claim. In today's time, we just can not trust the insurance companies because they are not in the customers best Interest, they are in it for the money and will find any reason to deny a claim, so be aware. Thank God, no-one died because I couldn't of imagined how this would of turned out for my family. My Children took this hard and they still can't understand why we don't have a home and living in hotels. As consumers, we need to re-evaluate who we are giving our money to to help us in need!
This situation has been devastating to my family financially and mentally because it took state farm six months to clean up the debris from the burnt mess. This has also caused my husband to go into deep depression. Me and my husband have 9 children and we all live in a hotel can you imagine what we are going through. I truly believe State Farm insuarance company was biased and acted in bad faith. We had to hire a lawyer to go against the insurance company because we got nowhere dealing with State Farm Directly.
It is a shame because now 40% of the proceeds will go towards the lawyer if I win and why should consumers have to go through this. What is the reason for insuarnce if something happens and the claim is denied? Be aware because they will find any reason to deny you for the settelment that you are entitled to. This is a growing concern in the insuarance industry today.

Have received my Homeowners-3 policy bill and note that there is $900.00 increase for the coverage I have been paying approximately $1600.00. I understand that the NC Insurance commissioner approved such an exorbitant increase but State Farm is unjust, inconsiderate of those of us with fixed incomes, and unconscionable in light of the current fiscal status of the national and state economies. Even Federal Retirees have had to suffer no cost of living this year and further casts a dark and ominous shadow of credibility on State Farms action.
This increase will cause a reduction in the quality of life we have become used to in the fair state of NC and causes us to think of State Farm as a money grabbing inconsiderate company not worth doing business with. This increase reduces our spending ability and hence our quality of life by a significant amount. We are most dissatisfied with State Farms Policy of raising rates without changing the qualifty or quantity of service it provides.

I had a small kitchen fire. Luckily, I was able to get it out. Some damage done for sure, I needed a new stove. The rest was work; painting and cleaning. State Farm, yes, they took care of the damages, reluctantly and insinuating I did this and wanting me to change my policy so I have a higher deductible to prevent me from having anymore “accidents”. Mind you, this is my first claim ever and hopefully, my last.
I lived here for 9 years and I was never going to call them in the first place but telling my story to coworkers they suggested I tell the insurance. But I think now I’m looking for a new company. I don’t care for how they treated and insulted me.

On January 11, 2010 at 0530H, my girlfriend's daughter, who was 14 years old, died in a house fire. She had been spending the night with a friend over the weekend. She was allowed to spend the night on that Sunday night because she went to school with her friend and they would be going to school on Monday together. There is an ongoing investigation into what exactly happened to cause the fire, however, it has been ruled that it was not faulty wiring, gas leak, etc. In fact, many suspicions are starting to surround what went wrong. The mother was able to get out as well as two of the other children. It is speculated that my girlfriend's daughter turned to try to get the other child in the house.
State Farm insurance has only told my girlfriend that because the actual home owner was not at the house (His daughter was the one living there) that they do not pay out for bodily injury/loss of life. Am I the only one who sees this as ridiculous? So if a friend of mine is visiting me at my girlfriend's house and the roof falls in and they are hurt, if my girlfriend is not at the house, her homeowner's insurance will not take care of them? I could go on and on with examples but the short of it is that first, no amount of money will bring this precious life. However, if you pay insurance and an accident such as this happens, shouldn't the insurance company compensate the family somehow? If not then please tell me what are we paying "bodily Injury" insurance on our homeowner's police for?

My neighbor's unoccupied duplex town home experienced a significant damage as a result of broken pipes. We share a common wall and some of the water found its way into the master's bedroom. Unable to reach the neighbor, I proceeded to do the clean up and wasn't aware of where the water came from until I saw the construction van out front, heard them working inside and saw the dumpster get dropped off out front.
At this time, I informed them that I, too, had damage. They said that they were informed by their adjuster that I may need to file against my own policy. This made no sense to me so I contacted my agent's office and was told that there is no reason I should be subject to a $500 deductible and rates increase. The day I had taken off from work is considered part of the loss and should also be covered.
But, when it was discovered that both my neighbor and I are insured by State Farm, everything changed. Ultimately, they ended up sending me a check which was drawn against my policy (short the deductible and time off work). They seemed so confident to resolve the issue when it was thought to be another insurer. Funny, I never even opened a claim against my policy. I won't cash that check until I have exhausted all my options for recourse.

State Farm and The Florida State Insurance Commission should be ashamed of themselves for foisting this kind of increase on loyal SF customers. 14% increase? I was assigned to Cindy **, a claims rep. She told me to get 2 estimates and also fax over the police report which I did. Then she called back and stated they were too high and that "she felt like my house didn't need what she they quoted me for."
I mean she was literally trying to tell them how to do their job. They were telling her that if they replace it with what I had, it would not work with the coil system that's in the house. She still wouldn't pay out. Then she called them to have them explain, which they did. And that still wasn't enough.
She called me to say she would be sending out a field rep to take pictures. He came out, and then, she still wasn't satisfied. She then called to the local office in Newberry to request pictures of the home when they insured it. They sent those, and then, she decided to pay out a portion of what the guy offered. Then she called me to inform me that she would accept the $4800 offer, but she would take out the $1000 deductible and also she stated she would be taking out $1900 for depreciation cost per state law.
I feel as if this is wrong, because I pay insurance, and they don't give me depreciated quote. But when it was time to payout, she took me through loops and rivers to still deprive me of what's due to me.

We had them replaced and did not file a claim. We got another call, some more shingles had blown off. The first time, it cost me $300 to have them replaced. This time it was going to cost $350. This time I filed a claim. The adjuster told me that they would pay $500. My deductible is $1,000. I am okay with that. In other words, I will pay the $500 but that will go towards the deductible.
Here is the catch, she said that if it happens again, it will be deemed a separate incident and I have to start working towards the deductible again. Let me see, it has happened twice, in the last month, think maybe it might happen again? To say that it is not a connected incident is ludicrous to the nth degree. In September of 2005, we had a house fire that took the house and everything in it! As we've all heard before - “don't worry, we’re here to help you” - yeah right! One of the first words out of the adjuster’s mouth was “Do you have your policy and pictures and receipts of everything in the house?” Umm, let’s see the house is still setting there smoldering, nothing salvageable at all. I should have gone and picked up a handful of ashes and said here you go! But anyhow later here comes the adjuster back with this check for $50,000.00 less than what we had the house insured for! We asked the adjuster what’s this for? “Well your house,” he replied. But we said, “We had more coverage than that on it.” And he said, “We’ll just send this off to your mortgage company and we'll be seeing you!”
Like dummies we sent this check that was way short of what we thought we had the house insured for. Then they kept coming back; "You still owe us this extra money,” which we kept telling the State Farm adjuster, and honestly, when I would call him on my cellphone because we had no home phone, no more! He yelled at me so loud the wife could hear him across the motel room where we were staying at the time! And all he'd come back with is, “What more do you want?” I told him I want what we had the house insured for. Then he later showed us a policy from several years earlier. I said, “What’s this?” He said, “It’s your policy.” “Yeah,” I told him, “but not our current one!” “Oh yeah,” he said. I and the wife both said, “I don't think so!”
Anyhow, the damage had been done. We sent the check off; he did give us to the mortgage company and never did get any more from the insurance company. We had replacement cost figured in and we got a new modular home moved in but we still had this negative $50,000.00 we had to put on our new house and old house mortgage! Our payments were like $760.00 on our old house and the new house was $1,432.00. Needless to say, we couldn't afford that so our home was foreclosed on this past May! We tried to keep it till we could get someone to help us, but time ran out. We ran our credit cards up to the max and we still ended up losing our 2nd house. One to a fire; the other to the mortgage company, thanks to State Farm!
I had been with State Farm since I got my first car! We always had both our cars and house insured by them only to be screwed by them when we needed them most! I'm not with State Farm with anything anymore and I will never ever go back to them! They are the biggest ripoffs there are. I thought you were supposed to trust your agent and company but they’re looking out just for themselves! Here’s a bit of info for anyone reading this. We talked to a former insurance adjuster and he said the adjuster gets a percentage of what he can save the insurance company, or in other words, screw the policyholder out of! We now live in a 100-year-old house that we only got because we had to beg borrow and darn near steal, because our credit is so bad after this whole house fire and State Farm thing! We had our house foreclosed on ran ourselves head over heels in debt and now live in an old house.

My home, which is a cape brick and side panel home, began to have some grayish-looking film on the walls. On March 26, 2009, I called my Insurance Company, which is State Farm Insurance, to report the claim. I was told by customer service that based on the information that I was providing, there was minimal damage and it would more than likely cost less than $1000.00 to paint. I was told however that they would keep the information on file and that if I decided to paint and that would exceed my $1000.00, to call State Farm back. Keep in mind that I live in NY and the last oil drop I had from my heating oil company was late March or sometime in April 2009.
I had then had another previous issue, and the insurance representative Mr. Stephen that came to my home insisted that I file a formal claim because it appeared that I had a soot problem. The claim was assigned to someone else, but Mr. Stephen put the claims as one so he was handling everything. Mr. Stephen decided without any testing that I had soot, and it was deemed by Mr. Stephen that I in fact add a puff back. Although Mr. Stephen from State Farm was fully aware that there had been no boiler running. My hot water is run by gas through the water heater. Everything was destroyed. There were clothes, food, all of my cosmetics, not to mention, the stress of washing things. I was never fully advised what I was entitled to, so for such things I did not claim immediately, as if I was told I would have claimed it at the time.
So now, State Farm sends a cleaning crew of their choice to clean my home, and they allowed an allowance to paint my home. This was now Aug. 11, 2009 and I had to delay the paint job that was scheduled for Aug. 11 due to my mother being hospitalized. I would get calls from the adjuster wanting to know when they were going to paint. From 8/11/09 to 8/25/09 after State Farm sent their cleaning crew, this grayish film began to come back again, but this time stronger. The weird thing is that this grayish film was silent. I then woke up with darkish gray film in my nose. I panicked and called State Farm, and the rep said, "Well, we already cleaned up your house and gave you an allowance to paint. You need to give me a good reason to convince my boss why we should come again." (This is a whole other story). I was in a complete panic. I then sought some kind of explanation because State Farm kept saying this puff back was reoccurring. I was dumbfounded because I had no efficiency running: boiler, gas, nothing.
I called the fire dept. and I was advised to vacate. The fire dept. had done a thorough investigation themselves - the boiler, chimney, etc. - and because I and my child suffer from very serious medical conditions. It was best for us to leave. The next day, I called State Farm and advised them of the new reoccurring alleged "soot". I was told by State Farm that what they would now need to do is determine if this was a new claim or a continuation of the March 26 claim. Either way, I was told not to be concerned because soot is covered. So, from 8/26/09 through 9/2/09, State Farm employs an engineer that came to my home to establish this problem. This engineer that did only minimal visual examination had made up his mind that this was a "combustion of an efficiency." I was again at a loss because I had no boiler running. The heating company also confirmed that soot is like black dust. It is a smoke that comes from burnt oil and this was not soot. The basement and the boiler were clean. State Farm then hired a hygienist that was hired solely to determine if this carbon "soot" would be harmful.
Here we go now - one month in the hotel and my daughter going through hell being up three hours earlier for school. I sometimes have bad days due to my medical condition, so I requested transportation for her. All of my child's medication and everything were damaged. State Farm was processing everything, and everything was going smoothly. Remember, they allegedly did not have a problem with this claim; they were just trying to determine if this was a new loss or a continuation of the March 26, 2009 loss. I feel that it was only until I reported the adjuster for inappropriate statements and behavior, which was on 9/17/09, that I received on 9/21/09 a "reservation of rights letter". I had to write to the President of State Farm to have this adjuster removed from my file because Mr. ** told me originally that he would not and could not change adjusters although I clearly expressed my concerns to Mr. ** regarding how I felt - very uncomfortable with the adjuster.
Time went on, and I now had to change hotels because at one hotel which was the second hotel that I had to find on my own and go through red tape, my child was being solicited for sex. The second hotel, my items were missing. Here I am now requesting continuation and explanation for the processing of my additional living expenses that were being processed even after the reservation of rights letter because I was told they would pay for the cleaning of my clothes, at the very least and my mileage, and so on. There is so much more to this claim that I would have to write a book. Back and fourth with doctors, being worried about my health. Now, the new adjuster decides that she will not process my mileage or anything beyond 9/27/09. Their professional hygienist now states there is mold spores and silica in the home, but it was not harmful enough. I asked what is harmful enough, and I never got an explanation. I kept very consistent in requesting the scope notes and the preliminary report from the engineer who came out on 9/2/09 and was continuously told "you will get the report." The confusion and what transpired in between the time would literally take me hours to write.
Now I get reassurance from the head manager that all will be taken care of. I then get a letter in the mail dated 10/20/09 from the manager of the Melville claims office indicating that they now have all of the reports in their possession effective 10/16/09 and they (State Farm) is in the process of reviewing the claim for coverage. I then on 10/29/09 get a denial dated 10/27 indicating that after review of the file and the report from their engineer Paul **, my issue is soot from a pre-existing owner that has been bleeding through the walls and reoccurs and that the boiler is faulty. The oil company clearly contradicts this statement. In addition, their engineer states that I have had candle burning which may cause this soot. I responded to the engineer in writing, advising him that the exhibit he used to demonstrate a candle in his report was a "battery-operated candle." I also asked for an explanation and never received a response. In addition, there was no material; meaning, the wall with this film that does not wipe off - it has to be scrubbed off with an abrasive. It was never tested, and no wall was taken apart. There was never a suggestion to sample even a tiny piece of the wall that has this grayish film.I then went and hired an environmental specialist who did air quality tests and found mold in the air. It made no difference.
There were suggestions made to State Farm requesting additional testing in order not to subject me and my child to this "unknown" problem. I have had so many people come out and they were dumbfounded. No one could pinpoint this issue; however, it is evident even with a professional cleaning crew that does clean up after soot that this was not soot. In their denial, State Farm now denied coverage and I am subjected with all of these out-of-pocket expenses, replacement of medication for my child... It goes on and on.
State Farm now stopped payment for the hotel, and we are now subjected to go to the streets. I feel they are attempting to force me and my child to go back to my home with this unknown issue, which could be mold infestation. I did not even speak about the symptoms we were experiencing while at the home, and now, the symptoms are all gone since we left the house. And State Farm has no conscience whom they hurt. I have contacted the Insurance Department from inception, and to date, I have not received a response as to the investigation. I have only received confirmation of the complaints.

A leak had sprung behind our washing machine. My husband couldn't fix it, so the water flow wasn't stopped until plumbers came the next day. State Farm was immediately called, and we were told to get a few estimates on the damages. We did and faxed them within three days. I got a call once from Stella **. I tried to call her back a few times but I always went to her voicemail, which stated she would be out of the office after 4:10 pm. The next time I called her was on a Friday, but her voicemail said she'd be out of town until Tuesday. After three weeks, a claims adjuster finally called and came down. Stella had initially said that some company could come down and blow-dry the hole that was created by the water in the wall, but nobody ever came down for that and State Farm never did a follow up. I'm still waiting to find out what State Farm is going to do by way of compensation for this mess.

My 11 year old house that never leaked before is now leaking inside and out. Same story as most of the complaints I read on your site. State Farm is refusing to pay for roof or inside damage, claiming the shingles were installed wrong, etc. I couldn't believe this. It is like I was reading my own story. Why can't someone take on this big fraud company? Why do honest people get the shaft and these fat cats keep selling their no good policies and dining with the rich and famous? This house was to be our retirement home. Mold and mildew will form in insulation, which can damage our health. We couldn't sell this home due to damage. Our lost premiums and what for? A company who gets away with fraud? My husband and I both are near a nervous breakdown as our dreams disappear!

The company that gave the estimate on the roof stated that it was damaged from storm and sun. We have holes in the rubber. This roof has never leaked before now. On the other side of the house we had a leak 2 years ago and it was fixed, but this whole side of the house, never any problems until now. They are refusing to fix it. If this is not fixed, our walls and ceilings will be ruined and mold will start to grow. We have some mold now in one of the rooms.

They fully know that I am with State Farm and they will cancel my home insurance with Dave's office. 5 months later, I found out that Dave's office charged into my escrow for $1290. I contacted his office and spoke with Rhonda. She then told me that my policy were never cancelled and that my home basically has 2 insurances from both agencies for the last 5 months. I tried calling both offices, but they're both pushing blame on each other. I can't get a hold of neither Dave or Mike. I can only reach to their staff members, and not only that, they are rude. We have had hail damage in our area for over a year. I have had a State Farm investigator come out and tell me it was just wear and tear. I asked for another investigator from State Farm and was told the roof was improperly installed. Three roofing companies have told me that there was significant hail damage. This was over a year's span. The roofers had nothing in common with one another. Also, everyone around us have had their roofs replaced due to hail damage. The insurance companies who honored the repairs are Nationwide, Allstate and Liberty Mutual. Our neighbor across the street had State Farm and they were denied their roof. I have a friend who lives in a different neighborhood and she too has State Farm. She was denied. We have significant holes in our shingles from the hail damage. Run, do not walk from State Farm. They are not trustworthy and they do not stand behind you. What would happen if something serious, such as fire and you lost everything? You would not be protected.

State Farm and/or my agent conveniently dropped some discounts and according to the local office, "changed how they calculate premiums". This would have cost me an additional $400.00, but I've already changed insurers. Save yourself some cash and the hassle of potentially significant escrow/mortgage payment changes. Pay close attention to your renewal notice and switch to another insurer now if you can!

Deonia's solution is to resend these items out for cleaning again. How many times do we clean items before saying they are not any good? We have given her numerous repair estimates and still waiting for answers. We are going on 8 months now from the fire and still dealing with contents and repairs. Deonia has done everything to slow this process. We are only asking for what we owned pre-fire and not asking for anything more. We called the chairman's office at State Farm and also talked with Deonia's boss, John **. Unfortunately, we are still in this situation. It does not make sense.

My house burnt to the ground in January 17, 2008. I lost everything and at first, State Farm Told me that everything would be okay for me and my large family of 11, but here came October 8, 2009 and at this time I'm homeless with 9 children. My claim was denied from the beginning and I didn't find out until December 28, 2008 when State Farm sent me a letter denying my claim for whatever reason.
I've had State Farm Insurance for 10 years and had only two claims and I'm deeply saddened by my situation and I know there are others out there and I hope they don't go through what I've experienced. There has to be some justice for the pain and suffering caused by unpaid insurance claims. I'm taking State Farm to court but just think, why should you have to go through that when you paid your premiums all those years? State Farm has lost 11 customers.
We went to another Insurer and our premium is lesser but with more to offer. I should have switched years ago.

I had my roof checked by two roofing companies because our home is 16 years old and I wanted to find out the condition of my roof. We had a storm in May and the roof leaked. I had State Farm out and they denied a roof problem. In other words, they would not cover the roof. In June, we again had a storm in which hail of golf ball size came down and the roof leaked in more places - in fact my husband had a bucket under one of the leaks. I called State Farm Insurance and they said if they came out again, the claim would be closed. So, I called headquarters to see what could be done.
My roof continued to leak - finally, I had the roof replaced because I didn't want damage. State Farm gave me a credit of less than my deductible to fix the walls and ceilings in the areas that leaked. My neighbors across the street, in fact three, had roofs replaced by their insurance companies. They did not have leaks but some of the roof had blown off. The roofing company that replaced my roof said that I didn't need a roof. He said the people across the street didn't have the high quality roof I had.
My question is, if I don't need a roof when the roof is leaking in several areas that are unrelated to each other, then why is it leaking? State Farm says, "Well, you have to maintain your roof." Okay, I did have the roof checked by Allen Roofing and Richardson Roofing and both roofers said the roof did not need to be replaced. State Farm has run me around and around about the roof and so far it's my problem. I have had State Farm Insurance for over 44 years and have had very few claims - I guess that's why I thought they were a good choice.
I would never use them again. We are going to be busy for the next month and then I plan to review insurance companies at that time and make a change. The thing I did wrong was not getting more roofers to look at the roof but if I didn't fix the roof, I'm sure State Farm would say it was my problem for letting the roof continue leaking and they still wouldn't pay for the roof or the inside of the house. So now, they will pay for the inside but according to them, it isn't only against my deductible. I'm still campaigning because it is all in the adjuster's hands and to hell with the customer. Like I said, across the street, State Farm paid for the roof because they could see the shingles and some damage, and they had a different adjuster.

Hail and wind damage in our area. I have had three contractors inspect my roof. All have told me that I have damage in one degree or another. The amount of damage warrants from their point of view of a new roof. Added to the fact that we were in the epic center of the storm and that every home around my house has a new re-roof. Plus, I have now heard that there was a class action suit against State Farm for not handling claims in a fair manner only brings one conclusion to us. That is that we are being treated unfairly and the evidence needs to be revised or I will file a lawsuit against them myself for the damages to my roof and applicable time to have this done.

We have been covered by State Farm since 1992 on all of our insurance needs, cars, homes, etc. After our roof was damaged by hail, they sent out an estimator who did not even look in the attic. There are water leaks on the living room ceiling and water damage to the lower level. He appeared real biased from the get-go and said that he can see the hole in the tiles, but it’s not deep enough to cause leaks. I will be getting an independent contractor estimate and take pictures of all the damage in and out. The lawyer said that we need all the evidence to sue not only for the roof, but also to the internal damages to the ceiling, structure and all.
They have paid for the house across the street claim and it just looks like they want to use any available reason to deny or reduce the payment. It will cost them a whole of a lot more after they are ordered by the court to pay for all damages and legal fees and punitive awards. State Farm in particular appears to hire unqualified or dishonest adjusters accusing honest homeowners of making false claim when the physical evidence is supporting the case. After all the years that we paid for insurance, it is very troubling that those who are supposed to be there for us when needed are not.

My husband and I have had State Farm Insurance since we bought our home (new home) in Georgia in October 1997. We are senior citizens, 71 years of age. We always paid our premiums for 12 years and had no claims. Last year a hail storm damaged all of the 100 some homes when it went on a destruction path through our subdivision. I had to fight and complain, my roof was leaking, went through 3 adjusters before I got the roof approved. They said it was 1/4 damage. Who ever heard of putting on 1/4 of a roof? Gutters damages, awnings, window glass cracked, etc… Finally, we get our roof in July '09. We fought with the State Farm since Feb. '09 about the damage.
Now yesterday we get a letter from State Farm. They are cancelling our Homeowners (October 31, 2009) because we had this 1 claim of $8,000 some dollars for the roof. What a rip off...they want your money but they don't want to pay claims. Look at the premiums I have paid for 12 years; it well exceeds the price it cost them for the roof. In November 2008, my house burned. It was a total loss as well as the contents. I thought at first that State Farm was working for the good of my family who lived with me. This consisted of my husband, my daughter, granddaughter, and 2 grandsons. The children were in school, and we were relocated to a motel 30 miles from the schools.
I appreciated what was being done and not complaining, I drove over 60 miles a day for 30 days making sure they do not miss school. I worked with temporary accommodations, not demanding or insisting on more than I felt was fair but was glad for any help given. When it came to finding a place to live and get back in a residence, out of the motel, I went out of my way not complaining when I was rented an apartment, which had steps hard for me to walk up due to 6 surgeries on my legs in the past. I didn't hold out for a better, closer place to where I had lived or no steps. I accepted furniture which was nothing like what had been in the house when it burned, but I thanked them and took what was given. Although I questioned the $600 per month paid in rent for the furniture, why not replace the things lost in the fire and save the rent?
It's hard to believe they are reported to have prospered with 46 billion dollars in the past year doing business this way. Yet, when it came to paying the claims they owe, they argue with people who trusted them. They are the last people I would recommend to anyone, even to an enemy. After not giving in to their "problem solving ways" and cheating people the way they do, I hired an attorney. I was told "you did the wrong thing" and they could and would make demands, and I had to respect them or else. I took this as a threat and was told everyone with a claim received this letter. When I didn't accept the check, which is $40,000 below the lowest appraisal, I was told the claim was put in the "inactive" file and I should accept the check or do without. The next day, I was informed they would no longer pay rent or furniture. I could accept the check, or they would no longer work with me. This was taken as another threat.
The next morning, a truck pulled up to the door and loaded the furniture. They also went through personal things and said they were making sure we didn't keep anything belonging to them. They left a mess to be cleaned up by us, and while there, they were rude and insulting. When told the things gone through were ours and not theirs, they said they were "making sure". This happened before the grandchildren went to school, so they were a witness to the behavior of people they thought could be trusted. That night, we slept on the floor and ate from paper and plastic. We didn't have blankets or pillows, since they also took our pillows with their things. I called the owner of the company, where the furniture was rented. He told me they would send back what was taken from us. But this will not make up for the threats and feelings of insecurity we have experienced.
Thinking we were protected and paying for the security of not having to worry if bad things happen to me or my family has been destroyed. The trust they promised, then destroyed, cannot be replaced by any amount of money. It's hard to believe these are people we are dealing with and hard to believe they have families. Maybe they think they are exempt from bad things, but then, so did I till it happened. Would they want to be treated or have their children face the uncertainty my family have? As bad as it's been, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Of course, I call myself a "good neighbor." Maybe, they just don't understand the meaning.

Where to start... In October 2005, I hit a deer. There were no problems with this claim. I had another claim in March or April of 2006 when I had damage from a tornado to my car. The car should have been totaled, but State Farm wanted to fix it. Since it was only body damage I didn't have a problem with this, so this claim was okay as well.
In February of 2007, we had extensive damage to our pickup. It hit a concrete embankment head on during an ice storm. The engine compartment was pushed into the cab, the front wheels snapped and were under the front end of the truck, and the frame was bent. I was told by various mechanics that once a frame is bent, the safety of the vehicle is compromised and that the vehicle never drives the same again. State Farm wanted to fix it anyway! I had to fight them for over a month about just totaling out the truck. Finally after the runaround, they totaled the truck and we got our settlement check about 6 weeks after the incident.
This is where it gets bad. May 22, 2007 we had a total loss house fire! The adjuster that came out, Steve **, was not exactly a "good neighbor". First thing out of his mouth was "his main concern was saving State Farm money." So after 5 months of investigating, they decided it was electrical with an unknown source. After that, they tried to pay us much less than the lowest appraisal value of our home. We bought a different house in December 2007. In November 2008, we had storm damage. It ripped an awning type roof off of our back deck, flipping it upside down on our main roof, slamming into our 3 skylights. I had a roofing company come out to do an estimate. They gave one for the awning and told us and State Farm that it could take a while to determine if the skylights would leak. Basically we had to wait for there to be enough rain for it to make its way to the ceiling to determine the damage if there was any.
Now, August 2009, I noticed a small drip coming down from one of the skylights in my living room. I only noticed this because I happened to be directly under it when it dripped. I called State Farm to tell them and when Steve ** called me back, he of course gave me attitude about it saying they "are not going to cover rot, mold, mildew or fungus and that it is a new claim!" I feel that they take advantage every chance they get if the claim is over a certain amount! They knew that the skylights were most likely damaged and it would take time to know. Due to the fact that we had less than normal snow/ice/rain it took longer than expected to find.
We have had rain but mostly light rain. When I noticed the drip, it was raining very hard. When I put my hand on the ceiling, I could feel that it was mushy and most likely had been absorbing the water for some time. Also when you look closely, you can see a hairline crack (in the ceiling) from the skylight going down to the point of the drip. I just don't know what I need to do to get State Farm to do the right thing and take care of my claim!

Opportunistic predator State Farm Homeowners Insurance ripped off a widow and two little girls after a fire (The husband/father died.), because widows and little girls are easy targets.
My home in Cahaba Heights (Birmingham, AL) was destroyed by fire in 2005. I was away, caring for my mom in FL, who was terminally ill, and my young girls. On February 24, 2005, I got a phone call. There had been a fire, and my husband, the girl's dad, had died. We contacted State Farm, our insurer, and notified them of the tragedy.
Instead of quickly adjusting the loss by rebuilding our home, paying for another temporary home, and paying for our personal property, as promised in our policy, State Farm weaseled out of rebuilding my home and took actions to make sure I was destroyed mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and financially. State Farm employee, Fred, started vicious rumors about me at my business, my husband's business, and to friends and neighbors. The rumors he started with his implications and insensitivity resulted in threats on my life. I became afraid for my safety and my daughters' safety.
I lived in fear that year and the next, having nightmares caused by the horrible rumors State Farm caused. I woke up many nights from nightmares that I had killed someone or that I was being blamed for killing someone. I later learned that Fred was an ex-FBI agent. Maybe that explains why he treated me like a criminal, rather than a good customer, who had just suffered a horrific tragedy. Fred yelled at me on the phone, when I called and asked them to honor the policy they sold me. Not only was he not helpful, he was mean and abusive. I called State Farm and complained but was still forced to deal with him. Fred also refused to answer questions on how to make the claim and fill out State Farm's Inventory and Proof of Loss forms.
He was very cunning. He told me in April and August 2005 (more than once) to not fill out a Proof of Loss about rebuilding the house. He said, "Just give us an estimate to rebuild it," which I did. Little did I know that later, State Farm would claim that I never asked them to rebuild the house. At the time, I was naive and trusted State Farm, and I did what Fred told me to do. What a huge mistake. It's obvious in retrospect that he set it up that way intentionally in order for State Farm to save money by not rebuilding my house. I was not able to be present in Birmingham to operate my business, and we suffered financially due to State Farm's failure to pay for another temporary home or "additional living expenses." I lost my business and only source of income to support my self and my children as a result of State Farm's actions and failure to perform as promised.
State Farm never repaired my home. Eventually, the roof fell in due to the extensive fire damage. My young daughters and I had to live in a condemned house in 2006. There were holes in the walls and floors, and animals came in at night. State Farm was aware of that fact, but they did nothing for us. I have photos of the condemned house where we lived in 2006, after State Farm failed to honor the policy they sold us.
Later, in a phone call, Mr. Fred's supervisor, Lloyd, privately confessed to me the real reason they didn't pay. He whispered into the phone, "Why hasn't your lawyer sent a final demand letter?" He said that my lawyer wasn't doing enough for me and that they knew he had a conflict of interest all along. In other words, he was telling me that State Farm was taking advantage of us, simply because they saw the opportunity to do so. It wasn't even my lawyer; it was my husband's estate's lawyer. I was unrepresented, and I told State Farm so, not realizing that it made my daughters and I unprotected lambs for the predator State Farm to take advantage of. I had asked State Farm if making an insurance claim required a lawyer, and they said no.
I have my phone records. They show over 80 calls to State Farm (That's over eighty calls to State Farm!), not even including the calls to and from Fred's cell phone. It should be apparent to anyone that I was frantically trying to get State Farm to do their job and what they promised in my policy. Do State Farm, Fred, and Lloyd really expect anyone to believe that I called "to talk about the weather" over 80 times? Pathetic.
It's been over four years now, and State Farm is still lying and shirking responsibility for their actions. I have been forced to spend thousands of dollars. I can't afford traveling to depositions by State Farm again and again, in which a huge table full of lawyers grilled me for 14 hours day after day. State Farm has dragged me over the coals to get rid of me. I'm not going away. I want everyone to know to know what an evil, opportunistic predator State Farm really is.
My policy promised to perform within 60 days. State Farm failed us miserably. State Farm takes in billions of dollars annually from trusting customers, but then they cheat their customers out of their homes and property. I never would have believed this could happen had this not happened to us. I was naive and trusting, and I foolishly believed State Farm's advertising. We (the consumers) buy insurance to save us from being totally destroyed by a major loss like this. It's outrageous that State Farm made the experience even worse instead of helping. I still have not recovered completely from their actions. Please don't be State Farm's next victim.

I purchased a refrigerator from Sears. The refrigerator was delivered by Exel Direct Delivery people (contracted by Sears) to my home on June 19, 2009. One of the delivery/installation men dropped the refrigerator door on my laminate flooring in the kitchen. The men also put a piece of cardboard that was part of the packaging of the refrigerator on the floor (to protect it). However, there were large staples still embedded in the cardboard box material and the laminate flooring was further scratched. The scratched area of the flooring is extensive. Laminate flooring cannot be replaced as it cannot be matched. Laminate flooring comes in dye lots and the floor is 5 years old. Therefore, the entire floor has to be replaced.
An estimate was obtained by Exel. I also obtained an estimate on July 22, 2009 and the estimate was forwarded to Exel's insurance carrier - State Farm Insurance. I have tried to contact Paula ** at State Farm numerous times without success. I have called four times and left my name and number. I have yet to receive a claim number or any response from State Farm. I am being completely ignored and I want my claim to be processed and my floor replaced. I have called Exel Direct several times, being told that it's not their problem any longer. I want this resolved! They have a legal responsibility.

Our house burned in Nov. and we filed a claim with our agent after which everyone treated us okay except one adjuster who insisted we take a check for $40,000 below the least appraisal given. Even though we told him not to bother sending it, he did anyway to the address where the house burned. The post office left a slip in the mailbox and someone signed for the check but couldn't cash it. Months later, we learned about the check and it was left up to us to file a report with the police which have done nothing toward finding the person who did this. State Farm did nothing either and left the whole mess up to us while the agent only shook her head doing nothing either.
Every month, we were asked how much longer we needed temporary accommodation knowing we could not and had not received money to even clean the mess up much less rebuild. The house was a total loss. We hired an attorney and after months of not returning his call, they informed us they will no longer pay for temporary housing. Our attorney has filed a suit against the agent and against State Farm. He said he will not be ignored and will not allow us to be pushed into accepting only a percentage of what we deserve. I have continued to pay the full amount of insurance due to continue to keep my homeowners. He asked me why I had nothing to insure. I realized he is right but still believing there is good in this world, I did what I thought I should. Not anymore. I want the full amount of what is due me and intend to give it to the court before I allow them to beat me out of one cent.

I have been counting on with State Farm Homeowners since my parents died and I was counting from my parents. They had the insurance for thirty years (1987), which adds up to be about 50 years. I was laid off from my job in (2007). I was let go from my job because of budget cuts. I was keeping up with my homeowners insurance for a month, then I was two months behind. I called to let them know that I would be sending $70. I was told by the insurance company that it would be okay. I also told them that I would be able to get caught up in the next month, so I mailed the check. Before I knew it, It was mailed back to me so I called and asked what the problem was. I was told by the insurance company that I would have to get my roof hot top and if I don't, I would be canceled from the State Farm Homeowners Insurance. I believe I was getting a raw deal. Also, I have been under a doctor's care since then. Thank you.

I have an ongoing home-owners claim with State Farm Insurance Company resulting from the winter storm that struck Kentucky on January 28, 2009. I have been given the runaround by State Farm for far too long! I have suffered major personal loss of items and property and now they are now refusing to pay for anything! My claim was assigned to special investigator, Carolee **, from Louisville, Kentucky. After the storm hit, leaving us without power for two weeks, it took State Farm almost two months to get a claims adjuster to my home to begin the claim! Finally, someone arrived from Texas to fill out a report! Apparently, State Farm expected for us to leave everything in the condition that the storm left it so that they could take photos...not! We cleaned up as much as possible and tried to get back some quality of life as we once knew it by temporarily fixing the roof and buildings.
Well, now they refused to pay on the claim stating that they don't have proper evidence that the damage was not pre-existing! I am so fed up! I did everything that was required by State Farm as I went along, including documenting my losses. They are the most unprofessional company that I have ever been unfortunate enough to deal with! I was transferred from Tennessee to Illinois to Texas to Florida with no one having any idea what to do next! I refuse to take this laying down. And now ironically, there seems to be no one that you can actually complain to except the agent that is assigned to your case! Isn't that handy?
Resulting from my roof not being repaired, I am continuing to suffer further loss with each passing day! I have now had to replace my washer and dryer both from water damage! When I spoke with the agent on the phone earlier, she told me that they were not going to pay anything further on the claim! This is insane! Now the electric has gone out in the entire back of my house from the water damage! I told her that I was going to contact an attorney! Surely, there is someone out there that will not stand for this! When the monthly insurance premiums are due, State Farm expects their money! But when there is a problem and a claim needs to be filed, they continue to give their clients the runaround?

Our family was on vacation, and between the hours of 6:00 pm (July 12) and 4:00 pm (July 13), our two 4-wheelers were stolen. State Farm is refusing to cover any portion of the amount owed. We have coverage on our dwelling, dwelling extension, and personal property, which is totaling $189,255 worth of coverage. I knew the 4-wheelers would not be covered off our property, but due to our homeowners insurance, I was assured it would be covered on the property. I have filed a complaint with the Texas Board of Insurance, the Better Business Bureau, and the corporate office of State Farm.
One of the 4 wheelers is a 2006 model with $4200 still owed on it, and the 2008 Yamaha was purchased as a gift for my son when he finished college, for which we're still owing $9300. Because perpetrators came onto my property and stole our two 4-wheelers, we are now required to pay $14,100 on two items we no longer own, and our homeowners policy will cover. We were not notified of the change in our policy. They just put the information in small letters in the exclusion portion and don't feel the need to make you aware of the change.
I contacted several other insurance agencies, and 4-wheelers are covered under their homeowner policies. Why is State Farm being allowed to exclude items without proper notification to their consumers? We have been a customer of State Farm for over 25 years, and like a good neighbor, State Farm is there and has taken on a whole new prospective.
Several families we know are now considering changing insurance companies over this situation with our family. We have had only two small claims over 25 years, and when we need them the most, they are not there. Again, this is bureaucracy at its finest. Anything, anyone can get by with, if they will. It seems like insurance companies are just there when it's time to pay the bill, but when you need to make a claim, they will make every attempt to find a loophole in order to not pay their claims.

Ike caused damage to my parent’s home in Houston in September. A tree fell on the garage and part of the kitchen. It hit the hot water heater and gas line so there was no water for the house. Lightning also struck a tree next to the air conditioner and caused it to go out. Because of these two things, they had to live outside the home for 9 months. Yes, nine months. Three adjusters argued with several contractors who ended up refusing to work with them and moved on to other jobs.
As the house set, more damage was done by water and the total cost for construction ended up costing a little over $34,000. This did not include cost of removing the dead tree that lightning had struck because my parents could not prove that it had been struck during the storm. My parents wrote a check to the construction company for the entire amount. They were told that they would get money for the appliances, cost of living and electricity they had to buy as a result of damage.
When my dad asked about this, they were told the claim was closed and he would not get any more money. The appliances had not been put in any of the three adjusters' reports! The only reason the hot water heater was fixed was because the contractors had put it in their bid. We are still arguing with the insurance company about rent, electricity, freezer, washer and dryer payments.
My parents have been with State Farm for the entire 33 years they have had their home and this was their first claim ever! Because they were out of their house, it was broken into. My parents had to make a new claim and pay another $1,000.00 deductible! So, for a new front door, new back window, a computer and jewelry that were stolen my dad got $750.00!
My parents’ savings were depleted during this ordeal along with other things. Even though it cannot be proven, the stress of this caused my mom to have a heart attack and die before she could even stay in her house one more night. Our local insurance agent even asked if we thought that this did it and I told her absolutely!

The extreme storm in June of 2008 caused a tree limb to tear away the flashing around my chimney. The torrential rain came in through the hole and flooded extensive regions of the interior of my home. An adjuster came out within a few days and assessed the damage at $1,400. I complained as the mold which grew in profusion was causing my wife and I severe health problems and they later sent another to inspect the damage almost six months after the event. They wrote an assessment for $4,500 this time and stated that they did not cover mold. Since I have a $5,000 deductible, they refused to pay anything. The water damage ruined my roof, walls, floors (custom made poplar), electrical box, gutters, eaves, furnace, vents and on and on. They essentially waited until mold grew on the damaged structures to deny coverage, even though the water caused the damage not mold. I hired an independent adjuster and they assessed the damage at well over $100,000.
Even though, I paid for an independent appraiser, State Farm refused to hire one in 30 days to continue the case stating we had not provided any proof of contention of their assessment, even though I submitted an estimate for partial repairs for over $23,000 before I ever hired and independent appraiser. The United Way helped us and the repairs were performed. Now State Farm insists there is no proof of damage. I have the estimates submitted to the United Way from the people who did the repairs. State Farm is straight out corrupt and has used delays and inappropriate tactics and policy interpretations to defraud us of our right to compensation. I have had coverage for all my insurance needs through State Farm for almost 25 years and have never filed a large claim for anything. Basically, my wife and I are nearly bankrupt and have paid out of pocket for many items destroyed and for repairs before the United Way assisted us, and we have been seriously sick for almost a year.

I have had State Farm Insurance for all my needs for the past 9 years. I have a modest ranch style home on a slab. This past Oct/Nov, I noticed that my vanity in our hall bathroom was being damaged by moisture. We could find no leak under the bathroom sink, so we hired someone to come check our shower/tub. They replaced washers and said the problem was fixed. We then took out part of our vanity to replace it. It was then that we could see water seeping from somewhere behind our bathroom walls (tub area) to the floor behind the wall. We cut into a small area of the wall and found black mold and water damage to the entire bottom portion of our bathroom on the two sides surrounding our tub. One wall backs up against our kitchen cabinets wall. I contacted State Farm and was told that even though the front of our policy states in big letters we have coverage for mold damage of up to $10,000.00, that if we read the fine print on our actual policy, we would see that coverage does not include slow leaks, even if there was no way the homeowner could be aware of it! It only covered damage from catastrophic events.

He did not care that the estimates from contractors were between $85,000 and $106,000. It was up to us to get it repaired for just over $21,000. It took him 32 days to see the damaged property. Since then we have had to hire a Public Adjuster.
It is going to end up costing us between $15,000 and $20,000 for the Public Adjuster. It has taken 12 months of no communication. Repairs are almost completed at over $106,000. We are currently over 5 times their original offer and that does not include contents or additional living expenses. To show how bad State Farm is, it took them so long to pay the moving and storage company that removed what little belongings we have left (it only took 5 months to approve). We have had State Farm Insurance for over 17 years. All of our auto, homeowners and personal articles' policies have been with them. About 1 and 1/2 years ago, we had just moved into our new house. We were in the middle of getting our backyard fenced in (the fencing materials were literally lying on the ground). One of the neighbor's kids came into the yard and was close to our German Shepherd. Our dog was sniffing him and everything was fine, but the kid put his hand out unexpectedly and our dog nipped his finger. Of course we felt horrible - we told his parents if there were any medical bills we would be happy to pay them. He had a small puncture wound on his finger which healed fine within a week or so.
We made a claim to our insurance company so the medical bills would be covered. At that time, our agent told us that if we made this claim we might be dropped, and I argued with her and she told me she would talk to the underwriters and see what she could do. We never heard anything back and shortly afterward, we received a letter from State Farm saying the claim had been settled and the file was being closed. We thought everything was fine, and now about 5 or 6 months later, we get a message on our machine stating that if we don't get rid of our dog, they are dropping our coverage. If we would have known this ahead of time, we wouldn't have made the claim. We would have paid the medical bills out of our own pocket. We have hardly ever made any claims over 17 years - once for hitting the garage door! We have paid $1,000s and $1,000s in premiums and this is how they treat you! We have been told we probably won't be able to get anyone else to insure us if we keep our dog.

It just happened during the snow storm and the area was declared a disaster by the government. FEMA walked in, saw interior damage and said snow load so now 4 countractors and Fema and SF's 1st adjuster and FEMA see. Others have had homes fixed and on their way. We are still fighting because contractor said Settling from snow load so SF took his word, settling, as an excuse not to pay. It was caused by snow load.
House roof was destroyed and two support beams cracked as snowload drove the home downward. State Farm has yet to pay after several contractors said snow load damage. They have had us deal with 10 different people. They have lied and played games. Now, they say another 2-3 weeks after 3 months - I guess they want more damage or the house to cave in. State Farm didn't drop us after all. I still disagree with their policy on ladders in pools - especially when the ladder does not go up OVER the pool, simply from inside the pool to the edge. The only way to get in the pool is to fall in, and the ladder is how you get OUT. This includes squirrels and cats that fall in accidentally.
Anyway, they sent one out after the letter to 're-evaluate' us and it was no more problem. We still have our insurance with them and have only had one claim in over 20 years, due to hail damage that hit our neighborhood hard a few years after this happened. They were great, even including damage to an outbuilding that we had not even thought to claim. The claim was resolved not only painlessly, but it was as pleasant experience and we had fast payment though I wish they'd not use Bank of America who made us be fingerprinted in order to cash the check to pay the roofers!
I'm still upset that someone came up here and snooped around, especially since we'd never had a claim.

We have had this house for 16 years. We have never had an auto or a home claim of any kind and we do not intend to. We are private, careful, moral people who value our home. We got a letter from State Farm that they were dropping us because we had a ladder inside our above ground pool and because we had personal property outside that was not secure. I suspect this may have been an old gutted computer we were going to donate that sat outside for a couple of weeks on our carport. We are not sure. If someone had stole it we would have been glad. In any event, we are behind a tall privacy fence and the pool was covered- someone would have had to have came out and snooped in our yard and even got under our pool cover to even see that little ladder was even in the pool.Reviewed Nov. 21, 2008

The adjuster who came out to my home told me to go and locate some furniture and place the order inasmuch as it would take quite a while for it to be completed and the order to be filled. I made the selections and put $20,000.00 out of pocket to order the furniture as I was instructed to do.
In the mean time State Farm changed adjusters. I called the new adjuster to inquire as to where to present the receipts for payment and he asked why I purchased the furniture. I responded that the adjuster instructed me to. He then said "did you get that in writing". I could not even speak to him, my assistant had to take the phone and finish the conversation. 20 minutes later I had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. I have a history with State Farm Insurance as I was a victim of Hurricane Katrina when my house flooded in Metairie, Louisiana. It took over 1 1/2 years to finally settle that claim. On September 1, 2008, during Hurricane Gustav, a 75-foot oak tree fell into my home causing severe structural damage. I have received a total of three estimates from local, licensed contractors estimating damages well over State Farm's offer of $29,000 and with the deducible subtracted, they sent a check for $21,232. The field adjuster for State Farm consistently has refused to acknowledge my telephone calls, even though his voice message states he will return calls within 24 hours. I have requested multiple times that a senior adjuster come to my home and none have even contacted me.
I filed a formal complaint with the Lousiana Department of Insurance on October 6, 2008. I provided detailed information to them from a journal I have maintained since placing the claim on September 1st at 8:30 pm. I also have over 300 pictures of damages. Within the same work week of filing a formal complaint with the Dept. of Insurance, I received a call from an agent in the State Farm Claims office in Dallas, TX. I was asked to fax in only the estimate for the contractor I wished to perform the repairs. I was told then a team leader would call to schedule an appointment with me and my contractor at my home. I did what was requested on October 8, 2008. I have consistently been following up with telephone calls, but was told no adjuster had been assigned yet for the second inspection.
My last follow up call for a senior adjuster was October 16th. Then suddenly on October 17th, my contractor called to say a State Farm adjuster called him to schedule an appointment to meet at my home on Friday, October 24th at 10am. When he told me the adjuster's name, I was shocked. It is the same adjuster that had performed the first inspection (the one who never returned my calls). I immediately updated my complaint with the LA Dept. of Insurance. I also called the State Farm Claims office in Dallas TX who had assigned this adjuster. I asked for a corporate address to mail a formal complaint. I was told there was no corporate address for complaints and all complaints were handled verbally.
I was transferred to a supervisor who confirmed the verbal complaint process. I filed a verbal complaint, then asked for the name of this adjuster's supervisor. Imagine! No name could be located in the system, but I was assured that an electronic complaint would reach the adjuster's supervisor. I feel strongly that State Farm is intentionally ignoring me in an effort to extend this matter so I will not pursue this claim to completion. Not only am I a victim of two hurricanes, but now I am a victim of discrimination by State Farm for having two hurricane claims. It is devastating enough to have to suffer these losses, but State Farm is adding insult to injury through their harassing and discriminatory practices.

I put in a claim and here it is, Oct 4th 2008 and still waiting for an adjuster to call me or come to my home and state farm has cancelled my home owners insurance. The letter they sent me says, “due to total loss of roof”!!!!! How do they know it is a total loss when they have not been out to my home? They DID refund my money but I have less than 20 days to find insurance now.

I contacted State Farm for a renters policy for a townhome I began renting in January of 2007; as I have been a long time State Farm policy holder. I purchased a policy sufficient to cover my contents. I was not informed that a renter could purchase flood insurance as I had for my homeowners policy. On September 12, 2008, Hurricane Ike flooded all of Bridge City Texas due to a storm surge. I am exceptionally upset to know for my 19 years of payments of car, homeowners and now renters that State Farm would decline my claim. It is the job of your State Farm Agent to educate the policyholders the difference and options or riders avaiable.
I have lost all furniture for the bottom floor of my townhouse. I spoke to my current agent (transferred file due to marriage to combined with spouse) and she told me flood was a separate policy that would cost an estimated $105.00 a year. I currently have flood on my home and would have purchased it for my townhome had I known that was an option.

I reported a roof leak on July 23, 2008 and damage caused by the same. A representative was sent by State Farm and the agent Kevin Ragsdale, looked at the roof from the ground (never went on the roof) and told my wife it was a wear a tear problem and the insurance company would not pay. I contacted Elizabeth the claims representative who sent another representative Kevin Jasmine who did go on the roof for approximately 5 minutes, came down and informed me that the leak was a wear and tear problem.
Niether of the reps went into the attic or checked anything on the roof. All they did was give a visual inspection. I had three roofers come for an estimate and was given prices anywhere from $21,000 to $38,000. All roofers said the damage was not casued by wear and tear but by water accumulation casued by winds and rain which caused the leak. In addition during hurricaine Wilma three years ago, I had a pool sceen room and large tree branches land on the roof at which time the State Farm representative said we would not be covered.
I believe that State Farm is committing a RICO Racketeer Corrupt Organization Act violation by representatives conspiring not to pay for the replacement of the roof and collect the $6,000 annual premium payment I make. I understand that State Farm has been denied huge increases by the Florida government but for them to deny legitimate claims is a crime.
I will now be forced to pay for the roof to be replaced as well as the interior damage as State Farm has authorized me 8,000 when estimates to repair the interior damage are closer to $18,000. By the way, damage continues as I try and arrange a loan for the repairs. Until I get the roof replaced, i will be unable to change insurance companies. Any help is appreciated.

We just went through Hurricane Gustav and then Ike. I called my agent to see if they reimburse for evacuation costs and loss of food items. She informed me that State Farm does and that I can file a claim. She was very helpful and I appreciated the information.
Well...when the adjusters FINALLY did call me I got the rudest person I think I've dealt with in a very long time! She basically laughed off the fact that I was making a claim. I have never made a claim before so I was unsure of the procedure. At which point...she offered no help and just started grilling away! I answered every question she asked...every question was welcomed with a scoff at my expense....questioning everything I said!
Basically, she said I was lying about the evacuation order...which was mandatory and I should have waited to leave so that I could sit in traffic with my one year old daughter. Also, that I should have returned home as soon as the storm was over to no power...no food...no water, etc. She thought it was absurd that I would stay away until we had power and it was safe to return. I was in tears by the time we hung up!
I am currently looking for another insurance company. State Farm needs to change their slogan...because unlike a good neighbor...they are anything but there!

Our 1990 mobile home was damaged by Hurricane Charley and Frances in 2004. Parts of the roof were torn off and the ensuing rain caused water damage. Also, we had no power for a week, so all our food perished.
Adjusters from Texas came to check the damage and decided that with depreciation that they only owed us $29.00 plus $200.00 for our loss of food. We finally had to repair the roof ourselves. With what we had paid in premiums for over 10 years, we could've had several new roofs.

Obviously that was not the case as we were without power 8 days. Everything spoiled. When the power came back on we had to unplug the freezer because it became extrememly hot on the outside and did not fuction properly. I received a claim number after giving specific details to tele operator.
I checked via phone with state farm in thibodaux, la where my renters insurance was acquired. I was told that there were no details given to them. I was extremely angry when I was told that there was nothing they could do for me. EVEN WITH RENTERS INSURANCE. I acquired STATE FARM RENTERS INSURANCE to avoid standing in line with 6,000 other people in the heat for ten hours to get a disaster food benefits card from the state. I have USAA for my auto, but always supported local ins at PCS locations when renting. All my fellow mil members just call USAA explain the situation and USAA then sends the reimbursement for renters insurance food spoilage.
It simply amazes me that STATE FARM advised me to DETAIL EVERY ITEM OF FOOD THAT WAS SPOILED!. Imagine the circumstances of our area and hurricane evacuation, put yourself in it, with downed trees, a hole in the roof that the landlord deems unimportant and asthma attacks from the wet celing attic fumes, spoiled food disposal, home clean up, job attendance, bill attendance and you tell me if I should advise you to WRITE DOWN EVERY BRAND TYPE OF VEG, MEAT, DESERT, ETC. AND VALUE OF EACH ITEM.
I am hoping that the local ins rep has made an error in judgement, else I will no longer be a state farm customer and combine all insurance and be fully protected from this kind of incident (which is the 3rd time) from happening. all food spoiled. hurricane gustav. state farm renters ins customer, but not for long.

The first est was $53,000 who we later found is a friend of the adjuster. The other 4 estimates we received were all between $93,000 and $101,00.
But, the adjuster states he will not pay over $53,000. No one can do the job for this price. Not even the guy who wrote this estimate. We went over his calculations and he has even calculated wrong. If he could do the job for this, fine, but he doesn't have the windows. floors, heat and air unit, even LABOR costs on this est. The adjuster refuses to budge. HELP!
We had to eat out with 5 kids and 2 adults for 4 WEEKS. They gave us $1000.00 in the beginning for clothes and food. 7 PEOPLE had to eat and buy everything (clothes, toiletries, food, etc) Then they gave us another $2000 later on , but that was to put a down payment on a rental house. The adjuster states the $3000 will come out of our personal contents money! I have seeked medical attention for anxiety, depression.
My husband and I are at each others throat because we are struggling financially, but mainly because we are being treated so awful. 6 weeks and my house is just sitting there. I called my insurance company, althuogh after talking to an agent, I decided not to put in a claim and pay for the fence, which came to $1,600.00. A few months ago, after having a new dishwasher installed in the kitchen, a hose came loose and water went under the cabinets. The dishwasher sat lower than the floor, so it wasn't until the floor buckled that the damage was noticed.
I had hoped State Farm would pay a portion of the repair bill. I called them and they kept referring to my fence blowing down as a "claim." It wasn't and shouldn't have been called a claim. I told them that I did not submit it as a claim and I didn't ask them to pay. The completely discouraged me from submitting a claim for the dishwasher that caused the damage to the cabinets and flooring.
I never submitted a claim, yet I'm sure that the second time I called them was another claim. I am changing insurance companies. Back fence blew down and had to be replaced. New dishwasher was installed wrong and water poured onto floor. It went unnoticed for a few months, causing extensive damage to the cabinets and floor. In all, State Farm has insured five homes, two of which I still own, and during these past 40-years had NEVER one single homeowner's claim, until June 8, 2008.
On June 14, 2008, two adjustors came to my second home which. The main adjustor, Deborah, said she was not used to handling these kinds of claims (had come up from Jacksonville, probably because there were so many flood claims, etc.), so she said another colleague would be joining her. I should have thought twice, when they arrived and as I was letting them into my garage, Deborah, said "I could leave and if they needed anything they would let me know!"
During the course of their visit, they told me that if they could not locate the siding or MATCH it or the color, I would receiving new siding [on the entire home]. They then said I would be receiving new soffits, facia and gutters for everything except the back of the home. I asked why, to which Deborah replied that there was no damage to the back. I said the new gutters, etc., will not match the existing and the home will not be "even." Deborah replied that no one sees the back when they're looking at the front and State Farm doesn't cover it.
The tree along with four other birch trees it took with it, had been removed by a tree removal company. I told the adjustors that I needed to have the remaining stumps chipped and that landscape damaged reonde. Deborah replied, State Farm does not cover stump chipping or landscaping. I guess it's my problem that God decided it was time for the tree to fall into my garage and be removed, but I would pay for the chipping and landscaping. Deborah was very quick to complete her estimate and send a check for one-half of the estimate made payable to me and my lender, even after I told her not to becase I would have questions upon reviewing the estimate. Deborah responded --as she usually did-- this is an on-going claim and if a provider determines extra work they can let us know. "This is not over," she said.
Upon sending the check to my lender, CitiMortgage (I currently have two mortgages and one equity line with them, and been banking with Citibank since 1979), they informed me that paperwork would be required and they would reimburse me for 1/3 and when the job was 2/3 complete and they performed an inspection I would receive another 1/3 and at 95% completion, they would make a final inspection to ensure the work is done and provide the remaining 1/3. Please know that Citibank requires all providers to sign a waiver of completion and words to the effect that the provider won't sue CitiMortgage BEFORE they pay. CitiMortgage then write checks payable to me and the provider. I've never been later with payments and the subject home is worth twice was I owe the bank. Just another little complication.
The same builder who has done work for me before, provided State Farm with an estimate for him to side the house because he said the 20-year old siding (my home was built in 1988), was no longer available, and he would provide the soffits, facia and gutters. Also, of the four builders to which I gave the State Farm estimate, they all said State Farm's dimensions were incorrect. An example is Deborah stating my garge is 8 feet high when it's 10 feet.
Roughly 10-days ago, Deborah called to tell me she was headed back south and a new representative, Calvin B., would be handling my claim. She also had great news -- they found my siding! I said how'd they do that, my sister had hail damage last year of the exact siding and it was completely replaced. She said their expert went to a supply company who is able to obtain it. I asked how they matched the color, she said with a picture she took. Come to find out it's the same supply company the builder I plan on using purchases from and he told me that Alcoa can produce this 20-year old siding and they call it a "Dream Color" process, but it will never be an exact match. I then called the supply company and they in essence said the same thing that there's no way it will ever be a perfect match and with fading, etc., and it's the insurance company's way to save money. I then called my new rep Calvin and said this was unacceptable that there would now be two different shades of color that State Farm claims is a match, and Calvin said State Farm's policy doesn't cover miss matching. I then said are you going to paint my home then so that it's even, and he said no the policy doesn't cover it.
I then called Ed C., my agent since 1969, whom I have stayed with regardless of the fact I've moved away from his office. He just happened to be in the office which is now run by others. He said he would call corporate and try and find out "their policy" on this. He called the next day to say, sorry, but if they say they found the color that I'll only be receiving siding for what they feel needs to be replaced whether it matches or not. He wish me "good luck!" He said I could take it to the president of State Farm if I wanted. I told him I would.
The one side of my garage is directly in the same line and continues with the house. If some of the siding is replaced it will clearly show. State Farm is covering approximately $4000 of siding for what is about $10,000 to side the entire home with new siding and make it even. I plan on writing to my family, friends and clients inquiring as to whether they have ever had State Farm pay for an entire home to be sided and instances of other insurance companies who have sided homes.
I will encourage everyone I know to read their policies carefully and ask questions. And tell them to review the Fight Bad-faith Insurance Companies. I am a realtor who has suffered financially from the housing market and do not have extra money sitting around to pay the difference so my home won't look like a patch quilt. I will definitely be on the lookout for a new insurance company.

In February of 2004 I had a water heater in my attick that burst. State Farm came out and inspected my home and denied the claim. I had the denial letter reviewed by an attorney friend and he looked over the top of his bifocals and said, your insurance company is attempting to commit an act of fraud on you. Their stated cause for denial is actually a covered item in your policy. I informed State Farm of this and they magically agreed to cover the claim. In the process of replacing items damaged in the initial water heater leak, we found a lot more damage that was hidden behind the ceiling and the walls. State Farm hired an engineering firm to inspect my house and then sent their engineers to the City and they asked the City to red tag my house.
State Farm's adjuster said we can't process your claim until we get an answer from he City on a code issue. This turned out to be a deliberately false and misleading statement designed to cause an unnecessary delay in processing my claim. While we were waiting on this fictitious event to settle my claim, I was hit by Charley, Francis and Jeanne. State Farm's little scheme backfired. State Farm claimed that their was confusion as to where the damage of the original claim ended and the new hurricane damage began. I told them it was immaterial because the house was a full loss.
I was then sued by State Farm to go through their appraisal process. I later found out that this is a tactic they use to control their exposure to legitimate claims. Their appraiser agreed with our appraiser that the home was a total loss, but State Farm's executives over ruled this decision. State Farm did not agree with their own expert's opinion arising from their own appraisal process which they forced me to participate in by suing me. They cut off my additional living expenses, even though my house was not habitable and then delayed the settlement by using the afore mentioned farce.
It has been four and a half years and we are finally set to go to trial. I am looking for any stories from people who were victims of Charley, Francis or Jeanne or any stories that involve mistreatment and misconduct by State Farm. I am also looking for any State Farm employees that are willing to provide any information on the specific instructions by State Farm's management to deny, delay and underfund legitimate claims in the state of Florida or elsewhere. Any information that sheds light on the altering or manipulation of engineering reports or general tactics used to frustrate the insured and cause an unfavorable settlement for the insured would also be helpful.
I have lost everything I once had set aside for retirement only to learn that State Farm has been playing a game with me from the very beginning. Thank you, and good luck to the rest of you who understand all too well how damaging and frustrating this process is.
Full Loss.

(My mother is an elderly lady of 79 years of age, recovering from a schematic cerebral stroke, presently a home health agency comes everyday to help her with all ADL's. she is not a good candidate to be subject of any mental or physical stress by Doctor's orders). I open the door and this man said, I am a State Farm employee, my name is Daniel G, I came to see the water damage. I said why didn't you make an appointment, you all make appointments, we're eating can you come back, he said no, because I was in the "area" and he insisted that he wanted to see the water damage.
I said o.k. and went to get the keys and open the door to the back yard and took the man to the back of the house. Back there he was watching the roof and wall and he said why didn't you bring the "roofers" that I told you to bring? I said because that is against the law and I can bring who ever I want by law. this got this "dangerous lunatic" very, very upset and he started saying in a very rud manner kind of almost shouting at me, well! then if you don't bring our "roofers", that I told you to bring, I wont pay you the claim, to what I said, I am not going to discuss with you this matter anymore. I will discuss with State Farm this payment and please leave the property. The man got very upset and called me "c--" and turn around and started walking towards the garage and I said what you say? again said "c---". I told him to leave the property or I will call the police and State Farm.
He didn't care and he called me again the same vulgar word in spanish and called me "!#%", he started to call me these vulgar words inside the garage several times before leaving and then he put up his "fists" up and started physically threatening me, challenging me to fight him saying in sapnish.. I got my cel and told him, I am going to call the police and State farm if you don't leave the property immediately. I said nobody is going to offend me and my mother. The man left in his car. When I first called in to make the claim I was told we could go pick up a check for 200$ to buy personal items and clothing until the insurance adjuster could come out to survey the damage. What a joke- what is a family of 4 going to do with 200$ to get through until an insurance adjuster could come out.
After seeing the adjuster I was quite positive on how they were going to deal with the loss of our home. As far as the home goes-they were great in terms with paying that out. with the personal property what a joke! After spending days in a burnt smelly house going through every item lost and making a list-which I am sure is so good for your lungs to breathe in! It took us a few months to finally finish the inventory list and turned it in.
Now I remind you we had 100% replacement cost. I get a phone call from the fire claims office in nebraska stating that each item would be depriated and paid out after the depreciation value-but if we replaced that item we could then turn in our reciepts and they'd pay us any remaining balance on that item. She also stated they no longer payed you 100% on the coverage you had on personal property.
What a joke! It wasn't that way when we signed up and paid them for the past 11yrs. She stated too many were taking there money and buying yahts or whatever with the money instead. Excuse me, isn't that our right? There was alot of things in my old home I wouldn't replace again-oh but then they get to keep that money and make a profit off of your loss.
Then I find out I only have 2yrs from the fire date to replace every item-ok it took me 11yrs to accumilate it all. If they want me to replace every item lost-then pay me what that inventory list totaled so I can, instead pay me 1/2 then say replace it all on your own within 2 yrs. WHAT A JOKE! there are items you cannot replace but yet they depriated the value of it. Baby photos, baby albums, family heirloms, wedding dress, wedding rings. they all have sentimental value-they gonna pay me for that? I can't go back and have my kids again-sorry state farm! I don't plan on making a big stink until I am paid in full! They can pay my family for the hell we went through afterwards and my kids dealing with losing it all! it hasn't been easy and my new home still isn't completely furnished yet.

State Farm has dropped my homeowners policy after 16 years with them and no claims. They say there is too much hurricane risk. I am at the dead end 2 blocks away from the ocean and higher up than sea level, not at risk from the ocean flooding. My zip code has other properties at risk and they must not be able to look at homes on a case by case basis. Can anyone help me?

On May 19, 2008, my home was burglarized of various items and my 2003 Jaguar was stolen out of my enclosed garage. The car has since been found with damages.
My problem is that State Farm is considering this two (2) separate claims or incidents - one being under the homeowner policy and the other being under the auto insurance policy. When I question State Farm, they said that I must pay $250 homeowner's deductible and a $500 deductible for auto.
My vehicle was not in the driveway nor was it parked on the street, it was secured inside of the house and I would think this would fall under the homeowner's policy.

My family and I (my husband, myself, and my four daughters) were hit by an f-4 tornado that ran through missouri May 10th. It took half our house as well as moved it off the foundation about two inches. About three days after the tornado State Farm came out to look at the damage. He glance at the house and said it was fixable and we should get an engineer out to review the damage.
We hired an engineer with excellent credentials $500 to come out to the house. He looked at our house at every possible angle. (we have a copy of the report) He reported that our house is a total loss. Our insurance adjusters decided they wanted to meet with the engineer at our cost. They met at our house and the insurance adjuster kept arguing saying "I don't see how you can say it is a total loss" (There are pictures of how the wall and doorways were bowing and slanting)
They said it will take them about sixty days to come up with a decision. The insurance keeps stating that they are trying to make it a total loss but their bosses are the ones saying otherwise. They will not give us a straight answer. My family is homeless. We barely have any clothes to last a week we have to keep running to the laundry. We don't know what is going to happen with our house. It is causing a lot of emotional stress and mental anxiety. (We had a house fire a year and a half ago. And it is hard to have to deal with this type of thing again especially when the insurance said they will not screw us like the first company did.)

We had a tornado/straight line wind incident last Friday about 1:15 am. I contacted our agent after surveying the damage to our home and property at about 5:30 am - I finally heard back from someone in the office who submitted my claim and asked the extent of our damages, and assured me that since part of our roof was missing that an adjustor would be calling me on Friday and they would have someone contact me that they worked with to come out and cover our roof. On Sunday, we heard from a member of the claims office that is currently in the process of being set up in our town and they again wanted to know the extent of our damage, take some numbers from various things in the yard that were damaged, and said an adjustor would be calling in the order our damage was considered important.
I don't have a problem with that, if people are displaced, they should receive help first, however, I just called today and placed a claim for significant tree damage at a rental we own, (keep in mind our own home has lost at least 20 trees in the same storm) and I was told that tree damage and removal is not covered by state farm unless the tree has actually hit your structure! So at our own home we will be looking at about 5000.00 our of pocket, besides our deductable to clean up the tree damage, and at the rental house we are S-O-L as far as the insurance is concerned and are looking at a 1700 bill to remove and clean up the tree damage.
Two years ago on a lake property we own at the Lake of the Ozarks, when a tornado came through, American Family was wonderful in working through our claim, and were much faster as far as response time, and they took care of all tree damage, regardless whether the tree had touched the structure or not. Buyer Beware - we are having American Family out for a new quote - and guess what - the agent for American Family is going to be out to give us a quote, before we ever hear from the adjustor with State Farm!

On sept 20 2007, our home caught fire while my wife and I where on vacation in Bermuda. It was a cruise. By the time we heard of the fire, our ship was on its way back so all we could do was wait out the trip to see our home. Our son said the damage was severe. My wife contacted state farm and spoke with Cegies. She told my wife don't worry about a thing, they would take care of boarding up the house and get things going. So we figured we were in good hands.
We got home on sept. 23 and could not believe what we saw. Not only was our home destroyed, but Cegies took it upon herself to send out a crew to empty the contents of our home. 25 years of our life was in 30 yard dumpsters and spread out in our front lawn. There was nothing left for us to even look through. No one authorized her or any one in state farm to go through our home. When my wife contacted Cegies at state farm she told my wife they did it because of mold. I don't think we would have had that problem that fast.
Now to get to the point, that was just the beginning of a nightmare. It is now March 8, 08, and our house is still in the construction phase but should be done in 4-6 weeks. My wife and I turned in our personal property forms approxmently 10 weeks ago. Our policy is a 100,000 dollars and also replacement cost. Well, in the 1st weeks of the fire we were in a hotel. Cegies met with my wife and gave her a check for 30,000 dollars to get clothes and other things we needed. That turned out to be a big mistake.
My wife contacted Cegies because we needed to order furniture and household items and to find out when we would be getting the rest of our money. Remember I have a 100,000 dollar personal property insurance. We only sent in our things as costing 71,000 dollars. Bottom line is Cegies is now being very rude with my wife and does not want to give us the rest of our claim. Now she wants us to produce receipts for all of our personel proerty. My wife explained to her we don't have any receipts, everything burned up in the house ands what didn't, you threw away.
So here we are, 4 weeks from getting back in our home, and no furniture to put in it. By the way I am deaf and very handicapped, that's why my wife had to handle everything. My wife told Cegies that I need certain things for the new house and she just doesn't care. We need some kind of help.

I have been with agent and state farm nearly 20 years. At the time of my last interaction, I carried a policy on a pop-up camper. I had recently changed auto due to a tremendous price difference from a work related insurance benefit. Over this last winter, a crack developed in the roof due to the freezing and thawing cycle of a Michigan winter. After consulting with agent, the claims office was contacted. With guidance from him, I described the damage. After the estimate from the RV dealer came back, State Farm refused to honor the claim. They stated that this was a Maintenance issue. Since when is a cracked roof a maintenance issue? I discussed with agent but to no avail. I immediately discontinued my relationship with the agent and state farm.
The cost of a new roof is actually covered by the camper manufacturer. The shipping, which was what the claim was for, will cost approximately, $600.00

In Feb 2007 my family suffered a house fire due to a power surge from a transformer that was blown due to an ice storm and the electricity being off. What the fire didn't destroy, smoke and water from the fire being put out did. The Fire Marshall said the house was unlivable due to the smoke damage as this was an electricial fire inside the walls. We called our agent and turned the claim in. A couple of days later the company sent out their rep. who was very unfriendly and wouldn't work with us and then they assigned us another agent who was no better.
At first they seemed polite, and eager to help our family out, but soon everything changed. They were not usually available to reach with questions regarding our claim, and quickly let us know he was not looking out for our family's best interest. They eventually found us a three room apt to live in and rented us furniture which was very much appreciated. They contracted with a company to try to clean our furniture. We came back to our house and found everything gone and the house gutted. They took everything before we even had a chance to see if we could salvage anything as my husband had a lot of family antiques that were very valuable and meaningful from his mother and grandparents. I also had a lot of expensive collectibles along with all my photo albums, etc. We have been in shock as so much that we lost was memories and antiques that can never be replaced. State Farm or their contactor were not authorized to do this and they still will not give us our property back unless we pay for it.
On Christmas Eve we received a denial from State Farm stating that our claim was denied. We gave them all the information they requested but we learned that someone we didn't know called in and said we started the fire. No way did we start the fire and we even have the fire marshall report along with the electric company report of the blown transformer. We talked to a lawyer who said as long as someone said you started the fire no matter if you didn't, you lose the case because State Farm can use that call against you. How in the world can someone call in and say you started a fire with no proof? I also feel my name and integrity have been slandered. Even though we don't have much money and have had hard times we would never ever have even thought of arson. Now we have no place to live, no furniture, anything because of this.
There is a lot more that I can state and all the information that was provided to them from fire marshall, my husband's employer, electric company, etc. My mother also attended one of the many dispositions we had to do and she witnessed the treatment that they gave to us and then the report they sent back was nothing like what we stated. That is also one reason they denied us was my mother came and they used it against us. I would just like to warn everyone DO NOT BUY STATE FARM HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE IN IOWA.

I do not believe that such a dismissal is professional or ethical. I have insurance for a piece of jewelry, my wedding ring. I have never filed insurance for any lost item but 6 months ago I contacted my insurance man and said I can't find the ring. He never said one thing about reviewing my account to make sure it was insuranced for increases over the years. Then a couple weeks ago I filed a loss for the ring. They wanted me to use their insurance jeweler to replace it. No problem, but now they are saying it was insured for $10,000 and it was appraised from their jeweler for $33,000. Now they want to give me the cash and not replace the ring. I feel they should replace the ring because they never mentioned anything about increasing the amount it was insured for when I talked to them 6 months ago. And, by the way, it was never raised, but I didn't know that because my rates have gone up all along even without having a claim. The insurance policy states on it: Notice: we have the option of repairing or replacing the lost or damaged property at our cost. If we agree to a cash settlement, we will pay you no more than our cost to replace the item. All of my jewelry is scheduled for $57,675.and the ring itself has $10,000 next to it. Why is it they can have the advantage of paying less for the ring yet when it will cost more to replace it I have the disadvantage?
I have had two people call me. One was the claim adjustor and then his supervisor who was just yelling on the phone to me that they are not in the jewelry business. Then why are they selling insurance if they don't want to take responsibility for telling their clients to increase the value on their treasures. I thought I was worry free. I look at the job description of the agent and it says they are to help the client remain worry free, etc.

We had a fire on 11/26/06.Our home was so badly ruined that we were told it needed to be completely gutted to the studs. We hired a State Farm preferred provider to fix our home. It took them nearly 3 months just to complete the estimate, and we decided to fire them as were were in a hurry to get back in our home. Initally State Farm was great our first claim rep was very helpful and put us up right away in a rental house, told us that they would do whatever necessary to fix our home, and that it would be no problem to hire someone else or general contract it ourselves.
The company we hired was more than the "preferred provider" that we got from State Farm, but our first claim rep said it was not a problem--just get the new estimate, submit it and he would get it paid. There were later several other estimates that they wouldn't do the work for what was originally esimated, the claim rep said "No problem, just submit the estimates".
About 2 weeks after the structural work had begun our claim rep was transferred and our nightmare began. We were given the run around about State Farm paying anything over the inital estimate, and we had to threaten legal action. The months dragged on; in July we were told that our living expenses would no longer be paid for even though our policy allows up to 24 months. I wrote a complaint letter to State Farm and the Dept. of Insurance and our living expensese were given another month but stopped in August. The city came out and told us that additional work was needed due to the fire ruining more structure. We submitted a bill to State Farm for the work and still have heard nothing; we also requested living expenses though Nov. and were told "No".
What is promised in our State Farm policy wasn't upheld; they fight so they don't have to pay for things that are rightfully due. We have to pay two house payments and area also out $3700 for additional work that State Farm refuses to reimburse.

I filed a claim and State Farm sent a claim adjuster to my home on the 4th of July to inspect my damaged roof and windows. He issued me a check so small that wouldn't even cover the windows let alone the roof. My contractor and I requested a re-inspection and they sent another so called expert on August 9th, 2007. This person was 3 hours late and didn't even bring a ladder to inspect the roof! We had to find one for him.
After he did his inspection with my contractor he stated that he disagreed with my contractor's estimate. No surprise there! He told me that there's some hail damage but most of the damage to my roof is not cosistent with hail and he couldn't explain what caused it. He told us that since there was a discrepancy between State Farm's estimate for repair and my contractor's estimate, the next step was to get an engineer from State Farm and that he would have the last word on whether the damage was caused by hail.
Brandon(the adjuster from Nebraska) finally left my property stating that he would call me back to set up an appoinment for the engineer and my contractor to meet and discuss the damage to my roof. He called me about an hour later in a most cowardly fashion to tell me that he closed my claim stating that all that State Farm needed was two of their adjusters to agree to close my claim. Basically he just lied about sending the engineer, although I suspect the outcome would've been the same anyway. I think they get trained to deny claims. Brandon suggested to pursue legal avenues because he closed my claim and that was my only choice.

Angela was not usually available to reach with questions regarding our claim, and quickly let us know she was not looking out for our family's best interest.
She did not want to pay her construction company what they wanted to repair the damages. At one point my husband found a DHL envelope on the front step of our burnt, and vacant home, it contained a check for $25-$30 thousand dollars less than what it would take to repair the damages. We refused to cash this check. We had to get an attorney to force their hand. I think the attorney was in bed with State Farm, because he stated that he was insured by them.
My husband, and I ended up paying the construction company almost $8000.00 for foundation damage, because they would not cover it, because they said that it already had a foundation problem. We also ended up paying for numerous other items as well. Our house did not get finished until 2-2007, 2 and a half years later.
