How Humana Medicare Advantage works

Humana Medicare Advantage is private Part C coverage that replaces Original Medicare as the way members receive their Part A and Part B benefits. Most Humana plans also include Part D prescription drug coverage.

Medigap, also known as Medicare Supplement, works a little differently, as it supplements Original Medicare by helping pay deductibles, copays and coinsurance, and it can’t be used with a Medicare Advantage plan.

Humana offers HMO, PPO, PFFS and Special Needs Plans. These plans are for people enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B who live in the plan’s service area, so availability depends on your ZIP code. You can enroll through Humana or Medicare.gov during your Initial Enrollment Period, annual Open Enrollment or a qualifying Special Enrollment Period.

Humana Medicare Advantage plans

Humana Medicare Advantage plans deliver Original Medicare Part A and Part B benefits through a private plan. Most of these include Part D prescription drug coverage, but you should confirm drug coverage in whichever plan you choose.
All Humana 2026 Medicare Advantage plans include routine dental, vision and hearing coverage, and many also offer $0 in-network primary care visits and $0 copays for certain preventive services and vaccines.

Humana Medicare Advantage coverage

Humana Medicare Advantage plans cover all Original Medicare Part A and Part B services through its private plans. Most include Part D prescription drug coverage, and all Humana 2026 plans include routine dental, vision and hearing care.

  • Limitations: Drug formularies, provider networks and cost-sharing vary by plan. HMO members generally use a PCP and network providers, while PPO members can use out-of-network providers, but will often pay more.
  • Other gaps: Medicare doesn’t cover custodial long-term care. Humana PFFS plans include emergency coverage in and outside the U.S.; check other plan documents for travel coverage.
  • Availability: Humana plan options are ZIP code-specific, and members must live in a plan’s service area.

Humana Medicare Advantage cost

Because plan availability and costs vary by ZIP code, Humana doesn’t publish one national Medicare Advantage price. You can input your ZIP code into Humana’s online tool to compare plan deductibles, copays, drug coverage and provider network before you enroll in a plan.

  • Monthly premium: Some Humana plans have a $0 plan premium, but you’ll still pay the Part B premium, which is $202.90 per month in 2026 for most people, and more if you’re part of a higher-income bracket of enrollees.
  • Medical costs: Plans may charge deductibles, copays and coinsurance. Each plan has an annual out-of-pocket maximum, after which it pays 100% of covered health services for the calendar year.
  • Prescription drugs: Plans with Part D may have separate drug deductibles, copays and coinsurance. In 2026, your Part D deductible can’t exceed $615, and covered drug out-of-pocket costs cap at $2,100.
  • Enrollment timing: A Part D late-enrollment penalty can permanently increase monthly drug premiums after 63 days without creditable prescription coverage.

My worst biggest hugest blunder was giving Humana another chance. I thought my first experience was horrible. My last one was the most unethical unprofessionalism ever. They knowingly will violate their own policies and procedures. Their grievance process is a joke. Their word is a non existent. I heard so many apologies and commitment to improve the quality of my experience. None fulfilled or follow through. I commented on what a grievance supervisor specialist said to me. But last time that review was removed based on context of what was said to me. Yes you can take it as it sounds. I strongly feel that all these Medicare advantage plans are the biggest fraud and waste of funds that should be given back to Medicare and allow recipient to get better health care and quality of care without the over aggressive abuse from them.

I truly hate Humana Medicare Advantage. They have changed my coverage without notifying me for the last 2 years. I am on a fixed income and they expect me to pay hundreds of dollars for glasses but keep pushing a colonoscopy test that I don’t need. Took away my otc stuff and cover nothing. Just because you are retired doesn't mean you have Money. Be aware they do bait and switch and there is nothing that you can do about it. So limited for insurance in my section of New Mexico. They do not care for people at all. But if you can get free insurance take it 'cause it’s better than this.
