How ClearMatch works

ClearMatch is a Medicare marketplace and brokerage that helps people determine the best private Medicare plans for their needs. Available plans include Medicare Supplement insurance (such as Plan G and Plan N), Medicare Advantage plans (Plan C) and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

ClearMatch doesn’t provide these plans itself — instead, it shops among providers to help find the best plan for each individual. ClearMatch operates nationwide, but specific plan availability can vary based on location.

ClearMatch plans

ClearMatch’s partner insurance companies offer a variety of plans to complement Original Medicare. The specific plans offered depend on the companies it’s currently working with. For the most part, all currently available Medicare Supplement plans are offered, including popular options like Plan A, Plan G, Plan N and high-deductible plans.

Medicare Supplement plans are often called Medigap plans because they fill in the gaps in coverage from Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B). Here’s a quick breakdown of what some of the popular plans offer:

  • Plan A: A very basic plan that covers Original Medicare’s 20% coinsurance and not much else. For example, Part A’s standard $1,736 hospital deductible is not covered by this plan.
  • Plan G: Plan G covers everything except the $283 Part B deductible. This is typically the most popular Medigap plan.
  • Plan N: Plan N has lower monthly premiums than Plan G, but you’ll pay a copay after your deductible is met. Plan N also doesn’t cover Part B Excess Charges. Apart from that, the two plans are very similar.
  • High-deductible Plan G: Similar in coverage to Plan G. Premiums are lower, but the deductible is much higher ($2,950 in 2026).

Plan G and Plan N provide the most coverage of the widely available plans and tend to be the most popular. Plan G is best for maximum coverage and peace of mind, while Plan N is a slightly more budget-conscious option for those who don’t mind trading paying copays to get lower premiums.

Many plans come with benefits like gym memberships and telehealth visits. These are usually provider-dependent — watch for them in your quotes. If these perks are important to you, you can ask specifically for plans that include them when shopping.

ClearMatch cost

The ClearMatch service itself is free to use. ClearMatch doesn’t set Medicare plan costs. Instead, pricing is determined by the insurance companies providing each plan. Prices can vary from company to company, which is part of why brokers like ClearMatch exist. Premiums can also be affected by factors like age, location and tobacco use.

Medicare Supplement brokers like ClearMatch generally make money on commission from insurance companies when you purchase a plan.

ClearMatch coverage

Medicare Supplement plans are designed to fill in the coverage gaps from the two Original Medicare plans, Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. This includes things like Medicare Part A coinsurance costs and hospital deductibles, Medicare Part B copays, coinsurance for hospice care and excess charges.

There are some charges that are never covered by Medigap plans, including prescription drugs, dental, vision, hearing and long-term care services.

ClearMatch FAQ

Does ClearMatch offer Plan G or Plan N?

Yes, ClearMatch offers both Plan G and Plan N, along with most other Medicare Supplement plans.

Does ClearMatch require medical underwriting?

Whether you’ll need to go through medical underwriting depends on whether you’re purchasing your plan during Open Enrollment. During Open Enrollment, insurance companies can’t use your medical history to deny coverage or increase premiums, and you are automatically exempt from medical underwriting.

After this one-time Open Enrollment period, many companies do require it, though there are a handful of exceptions where you may be able to avoid the process. That said, it’s important to remember that it’s the insurance company itself, not brokers like ClearMatch, that require medical underwriting.

When can I enroll in a ClearMatch Medigap plan?

You can enroll in a Medigap plan at any time. However, depending on when you enroll, you may be required to undergo medical underwriting. The best time to enroll to avoid underwriting is during Open Enrollment, which is a six-month period that starts the first day of the month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Medicare Part B.

What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and ClearMatch Medigap plans?

Medicare Advantage is private insurance designed to replace Original Medicare and provide an all-in-one solution. Medicare Supplement insurance (or Medigap) is an add-on policy that works alongside Original Medicare, filling in the coverage gaps.
