One year police for a small SUV minimum state coverage for almost $5,000. First payment for $681 a month. My life turned into a nightmare, Call center is full of agents with negative attitude and greedy.

I cancelled my policy before the due date for next premium was due and still turned in a $52 to collections without contacting me first. I only knew about it after a Collection agency called me on info Bristol West provided. I called Bristol West and they agreed my cancellation was made in writing before the due date so they agreed to waive $10 of it which was a late fee however said I need to contact debt collector and pay the remaining $42. However after a week the debt collector still claims I owe to original amount of $52. They are very shady.

It looks like I’m one of many customers according to the above reviews that have given 1 star because that’s the minimum you can rate them. They will try to deny your claim anyway they can. They never call you back. This company is bottom of the barrel.

They were terrible at handling my accident claim. My daughter was supposedly at fault and she was door dashing. We had the commercial insurance for ride share and delivery. They said door dash should cover it. Door dash said Bristol West should cover it, and then their insurance would cover any overages. No one has covered it and my car is still not fixed. Bristol West denied the claim. I'm in the process of switching to Allstate.

Horrible, horrible firm. They will secretly hit you with fees when you are in between your payments. Then they will charge you because they require auto payment, so on a bill of $171, I was getting charged $209, thankfully I checked my account as I tend to do periodically and found the excessive charges. Then when I called and asked to cancel they kept me on the phone for more than an hour, telling me they were getting me to somebody, and while I'm waiting some lady told me that if I wanted to cancel I'd have to pay and additional fee. I am reporting this business to the main farmers office and also BBB.

Do not use this company. They will steal your money and lie about your coverage. I also added liability for our second car, paid, signed the documents, and when I checked my account there was NO coverage on my other car. Yet they still took my money. I am also suing them for damages and stress. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. When you try to cancel or discuss your policy they leave you on hold. Such a terrible company. I set up autopay, it tried to process two separate months, and was returned both times with an almost $40 return fee each time. Well, I'm trying to get a secured loan for a vacation and am using my car as collateral. Since the payment wasn't taken out, I had to make the payment and upgrade to full coverage.

The next morning, I made the payment and upgraded to full coverage. I went back to get the loan that day, and the insurance company could not confirm that I had upgraded to full coverage. For some reason, they take 24 hours to process payments, even though you aren't paying by credit. For whatever reason that will never make sense, they couldn't verify I had full coverage until their system finished processing. What an absolute joke of a company, and I wouldn't be surprised if they go into liquidation and are taken over by the state soon.

I was rear ended by a person insured with Bristol West. It took over a month with multiple emails/calls to get them to accept liability. I took my car in for an estimate but Bristol West made me submit pictures so they could decide on their own estimate which was half of what the repair shop quoted. Now my car is sitting at the repair shop because the cost is more than BM allocated and they aren’t returning calls to accept the additional fees. This has been nothing but a headache and I wasn’t even at fault! Unless you have a ton of extra time on your hands and the patience of a saint I would recommend using a more reliable, customer friendly insurance company, not Bristol West.

Extremely poor customer service and quickly rising rates. I insured a pickup truck. I drive maybe 500 miles annually and initially I had a good rate but with renewals every 6 months and increases with each renewal within a couple years my good rate had doubled (zero accidents, zero claims, always paid in advance). I chose a new insurance that gave me less than half what Bristol West was going to renew me for, I went online to cancel my policy 10 days before autorenewal kicked in and the online portal indicated I would be getting a $20 refund.

I never got the refund which wasn't too important but then a few months later I got a notice they were sending me to collections for $30 because I am in California and CA residents have to pay a $50 cancellation fee which Bristol West did not disclose (they told me I was to expect a refund then they charged me a penalty and sent me directly to collections). Bristol West is a very dishonest company with non-existent customer service, they will give you a good price the first policy but will quickly raise your rates (literally doubled in 2 years) and then they will charge you hidden fees for leaving them.

Bristol West did not include my UM coverage and blamed it on Farmers. However, I found out at the renewal that I had still gone without it even after calling and requesting it, emailing Farmers, etc. At the renewal, the girl made a mistake and still didn't include it. I was hit by an uninsured motorist a few months later and

when I found out upon reporting my claim, they STILL didn't add UM (despite the fact it's supposed to be included unless a form is filled out by hand and signed, declining it in the state of Florida). They admitted it was their error, but did not back date my coverage and denied coverage so my lawyer dropped the case.

Had two act of god claims that Bristol West seriously mis-handled. One they clearly didn't review the photos, only included 3 panels in the estimate when the vehicle had damage on 8 panels, CLEARLY shown in the photos. They refused to review. Other vehicle they didn't include damage of several parts. I repeatedly tried contacting the supervisor Heather B who would not call me back after several voicemails. They then setup a settlement with a 3 day expiration to create a sense of urgency on my part. I told them in voicemail, portal and email that I DECLINE their settlement. They have since went no contact. At this point I can only assume that this is purposely malicious to get out of paying damage. I will be reaching out to my state's dept of insurance to report this. Not even a 1/3 of the damage was noted on the estimate. Truly unbelievable that a company can have this bad of service for their own customers.

If I could leave a zero review I would. This is not a cheap insurance. I had a "total" on my last vehicle, which I was not even 1% at fault for. The semi company took full responsibility. Bristol West had listed on my information that I was somewhat at fault, NOT TRUE. I found a way better insurance that was not breaking my bank, I called BW to cancel, the rep said all that I needed to do was reply to the email they sent asking for the cancel request info, so I replied soon after that with all the info they had asked for.

Days later, they asked for the same info, to which I replied to them a good reply about them already having that info. Another few days later they sent an official form asking for the same info. I wrote on that form in RED to CANCEL, filled out the form and emailed back in all the information. All while my husband is on the phone with them as well, and they are acting dumb, like they have not received any cancel request from me. They are taking their time in giving us the "correct" email to send this form to, which does not make any sense, being that the email tells you which email to send to? Sooo, why are they playing games with customers? Highly unprofessional and aggravating!!! Steer clear!! The insurance industry should be taken out of the mandatory vehicle requirements altogether. I have a good driving record and good credit as well. I have no idea how I ended up with this company when I thought I was signing up with Farmers Insurance. Jason ** from farmers insurance doesn’t return calls. I was in a no fault accident in August where my car was totaled-they first tried to settle stating minor repairs. I felt like the repairs were more than minor so I contacted them numerous times to find out where to take my car for repairs-they can’t offer any kind of advice like that. Bristol West's claims adjuster Nico ** wouldn’t return calls. His supervisor Phoebe wouldn’t return calls (get everything in writing with these people).

I took the car to Kia who informed me my car was totaled, "They just keep asking us to resubmit pictures and we are doing it but your car is totaled." I had to resubmit pictures a handful of times before Kia. The other insurance company of the guy that hit me ruled I was 15% at fault? The driver hit me because he wasn’t paying attention-he started screaming I destroyed his life so I called 911. I took the accident report to another insurance company who looked at the report and said you are not at fault.

I contacted Bristol West and they said they accepted the 15% fault as a business decision. The other company still hasn’t settled (Frontier) they called back about car seats that they said Bristol west said were in my car. I have no kids, there were no car seats in my car. This was in August 2024. This is still ongoing as of January 2025. Bristol West didn’t inform me of their decision to accept a 15% blame on my behalf. This is unacceptable. I got a letter a few months into this that due to only being with my current company Bristol West for less than 6 months I was denied insurance with this new company.

I contacted Bristol West informing them I had no idea of looking for insurance with another company. Farmers Insurance Jason Waugh decided on his own to sign me up for this company - as a licensed agent why would he try and sign me up with another company when I hadn’t even been with this company for 6 months. They also like to send text messages from unknown numbers and messages where they state settlement amounts and you text back and no response(I have them all) opt out of their text messages for your own protection.

I opted out of text messages but still got a text from Jason ** that my car insurance was expiring in January but I could renew if paid by February - this was for my car that was totaled in August and Jason ** from Farmers is trying to renew a policy on a totaled car. This has been a very long 6 months. Farmers Insurance and Bristol West are somehow 1 company. This has been a long 6 months and I have never had to put out so many fires in my life

Their poor communication, constant oversights, and lack of accountability made an already difficult situation even worse. Shockingly, I had to hire an attorney to represent me against my own insurance carrier after an accident where I wasn’t at fault. The policies and handling felt designed to work against me rather than protect my interests, which is the bare minimum you’d expect from an insurance company. Pieter **, a representative, was especially unhelpful—his approach was confrontational and added unnecessary stress to the process. I had to get Bristol West cause they were the only insurance company that would give me insurance cause I'm a high risk driver cause of surcharge. I have like a million surcharge. They are like 10 times cheaper than Progressive. My only other option was Progressive and they blow them out the water payment wise. I always pay my insurance on time. I haven't had any issues so far but I haven't filed any claims either. I'm very cautious now. Being a high risk driver I try to be extra careful. I don't want anyone hitting me and I don't wanna be at risk hitting anyone else.

I'm just trying to keep them for a certain amount of years till my surcharge go down and I'm eligible for a better insurance company but price wise they're way better than other insurance companies like Progressive or GEICO that offer 6 month policies. 6 month policies you get screwed no matter what price wise. I get every deduction possible. No matter what. All insurance companies suck. A lot of them go by your credit, your criminal record, your driving mistakes. No insurance companies nowadays wanna pay out anything but price wise way way better than the other 6 month car policy companies. I've had good luck with them so far and I hope no matter what insurance company I have now I'm not being a risk on the road. I wanna be able to get my driving record better than the past was. You can't win no matter what.

Nowadays you think you're gonna get a payout from any insurance company but price wise for basic coverage my insurance is more than half less than Progressive and full coverage. You're talking 500 dollars a month cheaper than Progressive and that's with a high deductible but if I had a low deductible you're talking way more than that from Progressive for a high deductible for same coverage. With a 1000 thousand dollar deductible it's 500 month cheaper than Progressive and Progressive gives you like no deductions. Progressive wants over 800 a month for me to have full coverage with a 1000 dollar deductible. I think they're definitely ok for me. I wouldn't be wasting my time thinking you gonna get a payout from any insurance company. I'd suggest try to be a safe driver. It's not worth it.

TLDR; this company/office is a nightmare and I do not recommend working with them. I’m writing this review two MONTHS after cancelling my policy with them because apparently this office made a paperwork error, and now Bristol West/Farmers is coming for me for more than $200 even when I have emails stating my policy was over and no further payments were required. Initially, this office seemed quite helpful and was very good at returning my calls and emails. I worked directly with Jeff and Isabel, and towards the end Sassja as well. However, as soon as I signed onto my policy I was ignored, informed that my bills would be almost $50 more than what I was quoted initially (and signed papers for). Additionally, I had made sure to add a second driver to my account in the paperwork process, and this office failed to add her to my account for more than a week after taking payment from me.

Finally after deciding to cancel because I found a less expensive and more responsive company, they were able to process my cancellations and even informed me I’d be getting a refund. This entire process took more than a MONTH and I was finally done with it all and felt better. Two full months later I’m getting a notice in the mail claiming I owe them more than $230 because of a paperwork mess up on THEIR end, when I have proof of their office telling me I no longer owed any payments, and now I’m experiencing the nightmare all over again and I’m just tired. When I called their corporate office they’ve refused to help settle this mishap. Never use Farmers or Bristol west. I’ve been treated ten times better by many other companies without this level of incompetence and bad/improper filing (Liberty Mutual, Progressive, State Farm).

Why so fast? Because the BBB went to the person in charge, and skipped over the incompetent people who had answered my calls, but did not fix the problem.

    Original Review: Aug. 25, 2024

Updated on 09/10/2024: I have talked to them on the phone several times, I have texted back and forth with someone at the office and I'm getting a runaround. When I talked to the billing they said "oh it's in the mail" and then they said "oh it's not in the mail", "it was canceled and a check reissued" and then they said, "Oh it's just been delayed because of Labor Day" and on and on and on. It's now September 9th and I want my $114 back that they basically have stolen from me.

I can only imagine what it must be like for people who have to deal with them who have had an accident! So I need them to get on the ball and refund me my check. Actually it was not a check that actually withdrew it for my bank account and they should put it back in my bank account and not bother trying to send a check! They have just been delaying over and over. I'm beginning to think somebody's embezzled the money! But anyway I'm going to keep writing reviews and if I don't get a response I'm going to go to the attorney general. This is wrong and it's not the way to do business especially when I am was not their client and I did not owe them any money. I did not owe them one penny. I decided to go with another company.

Original: As you can see from the photo, I cancelled this policy with Bristol West on August 6, and yet, on August 12, BW subtracted a payment of $144.92 from my bank account! Farmers insurance agent, Adrian, always answered my questions in a timely matter, but when I was transferred to Bristol West, the insurance agent never responded to my questions. I then decided to go to another insurance agency, Geico. Geico sent BW the notice you see attached. I have written emails to the agent assigned me at BW, Alexander. He has never responded. Finally, someone named Wendy said I was owed $132.92.

They reimbursed me $18 on August 14 and told me BW would reimburse me the rest on the 23rd. It is now the 25th, and still no money reimbursed to me (I owed them nothing!). It is now August 25 and I have not received the rest of my money back. This company office is very incompetent. I would hate to have to deal with them had I had an accident, but thankfully, I have a perfect record, and a perfect payment record. I was never late, never missed a payment. I am feeling robbed. I left my name off of the photo.

After I supposedly got a policy which did not include uninsured motorist, they said they were not available, their system was down, they were having problems with their system. Just not an honest company.

My claims adjuster, Eric **, won't respond, return calls, or make adjustments since no shop will agree to his $45 an hour labor rate for bodywork. I had to call his supervisor, Stephanie **, who was not pleasant, to say the least. She insists that on a two-year-old car, they don't have to use OEM parts and they will only approve aftermarket to save them $90. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The worst company there is, not just insurance wise but in everything. Using them for insurance ranks top 3 biggest mistakes I have ever done in my adult life. Never fall for their "cheap rates". You will end up paying more. These crooks altered my policy 5 times in a space of 6 weeks without a new thing happen on my end. From 132 USD monthly, I paid 359 USD because they said I had not provided them with proof of prior insurance. I provided them with what was requested and they said they had not yet implemented it after almost 4 weeks of receipt. The monthly premiums never returned to 132 USD, it came down to 207, then 215 then 249 and then 286. I will just receive emails stating an amendment was added to my policy without me adding a driver, getting involved in an accident, filing claims or changing anything.

I believe I called their office close to 15 times complaining about the financial difficulties they put me in by increasing my premiums randomly. These people never cared, apparently all in collusion with one another to defraud the public. How is it that a one-star insurance company is still in business? It is one star for a reason. I have sworn to always follow reviews. If I did I would have never experienced this. If you read this, please avoid Bristol. If you choose to go ahead, you will end up writing a review more scathing than mine.

Ok so Bristol west is the absolute WORST company. Not just insurance but company as a whole I’ve ever dealt with… Outrageous rates. They wanted $900 a month knowing no one else would insure me saying I was in an accident. That wasn’t my fault. They said they can’t tell if I was or wasn’t. To justify it I went from $150-$900 a month in 3 years and of course I didn’t pay them. I went to Geico and paid $220 a month… They sent me to collections for $50 3 times and also sent a letter to the MVC saying I terminated my insurance 2 times which led to dmv suspending my registration which in turn cost me my job driving because I switch insurers and they were petty mad and the MVC did send me a letter saying to return plates or send proof of insurance which ended up getting lost in the mail at my house… Still never got my job back either…

If I could sue them I absolutely would mainly for sending me to collections 3 diff times for $50-$65-$78 for payments I never made because I CANCELLED but they for some reason kept the policy open for 3 extra weeks past the due date again to be petty… The customer support was disgusting. Rude. Hung up on you and would laugh when you tell them your mother dying of cancer and rely on me to drive her to the hospital and I don’t have $655 a month for the state minimum insurance because you guys are taking advantage of no one else insuring me for owning an Elantra which are notorious for being stolen… They’re vile. They’re scum and they also don’t pay out during accidents is what I’ve heard from others whom used them… STAY AWAY. STAY AWAY.

Also the reason why we haven't received the car yet is that BW sends payments late to the fixer so they can get away with not paying off the rental car we rented. I've been with Bristol West for years. Always been on auto-pay. Never had any issues until recently. I run a business, so there are bills for that as well as the bills for my household. I put everything I can on auto-pay so I can spend more time running the business rather than trying to keep track of all my bills. My insurance premium for Jan 2023 was $574.60 for three vehicles, 1995 Jag XJ6, 2015 Ford Fusion, 2019 Jeep Renegade. I've never had a claim and we all have a clean driving record. In May 2023, it went up to $677.00. Nov 2023, it went up again to 697.00. Unaware of any of the rate hikes, the Jan 2024 payment declined. Did they send an email? No. They cancelled my policy and I didn't even know it until I went to renew the tags on one of those vehicles. I had to get a new policy.

In February 2024, it was $478.00. Then in March, it shot up to $985.00! It's only three vehicles, been with them for years, and have NEVER made a claim. Again, on May 14, 2024, unaware of the price hike, there wasn't enough in that account to cover it, so it was declined. Again, no email showing that the payment declined. I sitting here on the 18th thinking that everything is good in the world. Today on the 18th of May, only four days after the payment was due, and still unaware that the payment didn't go through, I receive an email stating the payment is past due and to avoid cancellation, it needs to be paid by the 30th.

I log in to pay it. It's up to $1,342.00!!! For a 29 year old car, a 9 year old car, and a 5 year old car. Seriously? I've been with them for at least 6 or 7 years, NEVER filed a claim, and a clean driving record. As soon as I have time, I'm shopping around. I've never paid rates like this. How do my rates go up over $700 in a little over a year when we've done nothing to warrant it? And the policy is cancelled before I even know the payment failed. I was driving earlier thinking I had insurance when I didn't.

I have expressed significant concerns regarding my insurance policy and urgently request a comprehensive review and reimbursement for overcharges from July 2023 to April 2024. On July 10, 2023, I initiated a request via email to exclude two drivers from my policy. Despite providing the necessary documentation and following your instructions, these drivers were not excluded, resulting in an erroneous charge of $500 per month. I followed up with a phone call on November 22, 2023, to add another driver and reiterated the need to exclude the initial two drivers. During this interaction, insurance representative acknowledged that there was an error on Bristol West end, and assurances were given for both the correction of the issue and reimbursement. However, these promised changes were not implemented, and overcharges continued.

Additionally, on April 19, 2024, when I contacted Bristol West office to request an insurance document, I was informed that I was excluded from the policy, contrary to the fact that on May 24, 2023, my husband had called to include me, which enabled the inclusion and subsequent adjustments concerning other drivers. Given this series of miscommunications and administrative errors, and despite my proactive attempts to rectify these issues—as evidenced by substantial phone discussions totaling 192 minutes from April 19 to 23, 2024—I continue to face financial discrepancies.

Upon the recent cancellation of my renewed policy, I was advised of a pending reimbursement of only $275 for the overcharges and an additional $424 for the policy cancellation. This proposed reimbursement does not adequately reflect the substantial overcharge amount accumulated over ten months, totaling approximately $2,000.

I attached are all relevant communications, including emails and detailed call records from T-Mobile, documenting my numerous attempts to rectify this issue. I urge the Bristol West for a thorough review of these documents to verify the chronology and details of my communications with the company. I request a detailed breakdown of how the initial reimbursement amount was calculated and an appropriate correction to reflect the full extent of the overcharges. I expected a response within 14 business days and hope for an amicable resolution. If this matter is not satisfactorily resolved, I am prepared to take legal steps to secure the necessary corrections and compensation. I have never received any response from them.

Original: So, I purchased insurance thru one of their agents. At first all good. The sales agent was very friendly. After the insurance cover period I wanted NOT to proceed. I called them well in advance of the end of the policy period. They were polite and asked if I perhaps wanted another plan with them. I declined, so, "No worries, we have noted that you do not wish to prolong the cover. Send a written request to us," and the agent said all will be good. I did this. Heard nothing back. Then I get an angry letter saying that I had not paid the renewal. I contact them. Spent an hour on the phone. So, the problem was "apparently" that when I emailed the confirmation of the non continuation, I had added the word "Insurance" and the policy number in the subject field. Not possible, should have been the policy number only. If anything else is added to the subject, the mails are not read....

They asked me again to mail it. Now with a proof of my new insurance cover, that they now asked me to include. I did so. Heard nothing. Then again I get another request from them. I write to them AGAIN. Then I get an email asking me to log in to their portal to pick up some "policy documents". I wrote back that I deleted their app once the cover was over. And I do not have any log in details. Nor am I interested in using a portal of a company that I am no longer a customer of. This is beginning to look like harassment.

I purchased a new car (after not driving or owning a vehicle for several years) and they charged me almost $2,300 for six months of state minimum coverage. They claimed the high rate was because even though I had an excellent driving record, I did not have a good credit score and had not had car insurance on an 'imaginary' vehicle I did not own. I needed insurance immediately, so I purchased. My thought was that I would take this one time hit in order to be in compliance with the law and the rate would be lower next time.

At renewal time, my credit score was now 700, I had now carried insurance for six months, and I still did not have any tickets on my record. They tried to charge me $2,250 for a six month renewal. So, it would seem the reasons claimed for the high rate on my initial coverage are extremely questionable. I cancelled this policy and went to Progressive Insurance. Progressive Insurance only charged me a few hundred dollars for a 6 month policy. The huge difference between $2,250 at Bristol West and a few hundred dollars at Progressive Insurance for the exact same 6 month coverage is extremely questionable.

On November 10th l was on the phone with several agents at Bristol West. My insurance was canceled due to fault of the insurance company. I decided to do the math on total premium in light of what took place with my policy being canceled.

    1. My card on automatic was changed. (When a card is changed when one card does not go through the other card on file is charged with no fees) I was charged a fee and policy cancelled. One day after the policy due date.

    2. There are grace periods for all companies not so with Bristol West if they cancel a policy automatically after one day after a fault of their own.

    3. My total premium for 6 months is 3,833 which includes a 25.00 and 10.00 fee.

    4. They send false letters stating you never included drivers that show up at your address. Mind you the drivers do not drive my car. So due to that they charge an extra free to jack up the premium rate.

    5. My payments are to be 665.49/mth and they sent a statement stating l was to pay 675.49 which is 10.00 more per month and their system would not allow me to pay the 675.49 so l paid what the system said l owed.

    6. They canceled my policy.

    7. I called and told the agent l was driving and so l could not read and drive. I've had Bristol West for Car insurance for a couple years now. Although it's affordable, they have the WORST Claims Department & policies to deal with! They assign your claim to ONE person, that doesn't return calls, emails or text messages! I can never get ahold of anyone to speak with & finish with my claim. I have 30 day rental coverage for accidents & they wouldn't honor it for the entirety (3 wks) on my rental. Even though they were getting reimbursed from the other driver's insurance. They also refused to pay me the $500 deductible that is owed to me from the other insurance company. They took 6 wks to finally process everything & make payment to me & to my bank on the car loan, leaving my account in payment default standing.

Now I have to deal with the collections department & it reflects negatively on my credit report! On top of having to hunt down information through the other driver's insurance company to get paid the $950 I'm still owed! I'm very disappointed in how they've handled my claim, making a stressful situation for replacing my car even more challenging. I've dealt with many insurance claims over the years on behalf of myself, my mother & sister.... These guys are the WORST by far!

We should have seen the issues coming when we were receiving our policy quote. My wife found this company and said when she spoke to the agent, he seemed nice and knowledgeable. I told her to get a quote so we could compare it to the others we received. With the quote, our situation is a little complicated as we have 2 houses and 4 vehicles, but the agent told us we could split the policies and it wouldn't be an issue. We explained which vehicles were at which houses and confirmed it with him to ensure that we did not need to make any changes. When we received the quote, the price was better than the others we received and it was a Farmers company, so we decided to purchase through them.

We received the documents online and noticed that one of the vehicles did not show up on the contract. Our agent stated that the system will screw up with multiple vehicles and miss pages at times. This was clue number 1. The total was correct and he stated they would send the corrected documents out when everything was completed. We esigned the application and made the down payment.

When we received our bill, it was about $50 higher than the quote. We called the agent (which took multiple calls to get ahold of him) and he said he would investigate and get back to us that day or the next. 2 days later, with no return call, we called him back. He answered and stated he was working on the issue with the underwriter to find out what the change was. He stated he would call us back by the end of that day. 2 days after that, with no call back again, we called him and he said he was still waiting for his underwriter.

After another 3 days, we cancelled the insurance and went with another provider. Unfortunately, we did not cancel in time to stop the payment from coming out of our account. I contacted the main company for information on the refund amount. When they gave me the amount, it was about $65 less than what it should have been. I contacted the main company and they told me immediately that they had change the garaging zip code for the vehicle and that change increased the policy. Mind you, we went over where everything was several times to make sure it was correct. I even checked the applications, which I went over thoroughly, and it had the correct garaging information. They told me there was nothing they could do about it and the refund would not change.

I currently have a complaint working with the Farmers district office. When I spoke with one of their office staff, they gave me a different reason for the increase and stated that the agent had completely left one of our cars off of the policy (which was the reason it did not show on the application as mentioned before). Apparently the agent added it later without informing us of the change. So either it was not included to show a lower rate and fraudulently added later after we agreed to switch, or the agent was just inept and did not know how to enter the information into the system. Either way, it was a major screw up on his part. We are currently waiting for resolution.

The quote given which was paid upfront wasn’t the rate applied to my policy. Deceptive means were used to raise my rates by requesting documents be submitted online that could not be completed or uploaded with the consequence of raising my rates if I didn't return them. Was told the quote given was based on a discount in being a homeowner when I clearly stated my current type of residence in the application process. Rate was also increased in saying I didn’t remit an EFT agreement even though I did sign and return it to them. Took much effort to straighten it all out but Then had the gall to add a late charge to my balance due. Totally Regret paying for a 6 month contract.

In not wishing to continue service with BW, I did not pay the renewal premium. However I was unknowingly and automatically charged an NSF fee of $30 even though my policy was subsequently cancelled for nonpayment as per my intention. I moved on and gave no further attention to their contacts - until I received a collection notice for the delinquent $30 payment which has affected my credit score. Had no recourse in their underhanded manipulation of payment processing as the fee is included in the fine print of that stupid EFT agreement they first claimed I hadn’t remitted. They didn’t cancel and I told Wesley ** from Moore that I didn’t want to renew. Well they got my money anyways with a unauthorized debit from my account.

When I called Bristol west told me the policy was not canceled and that I couldn’t even cancel my farmers rental insurance thru them. That I had to call farmers. Well long story short they took over $300 from my account and only refunded $150. I wouldn’t recommend this insurance to anyone. They suck. ** insurance and ** customer service.

The error was that they wanted me to initial that my vehicle is NOT used for rideshare, when I CLEARLY told them I am a Doordash driver and other gig worker. NOW, I am having a payment issue because even though their supervisor admitted to me they made an error and drafted the wrong bank account, after several HOURS on the phone they will still not give me a credit for the NSF fee charged by my bank. I told them today that I am DONE and I am only staying with them because I don't have the money to go anywhere else right now, plus, after 4 more months I will be eligible to transfer to Farmers, which is a better company anyway.

Published review 12/4/20. This insurance company wanted to charge me over $300 for one vehicle. I agreed because at the time it was the cheapest option I could find. I’ve been a customer for 3 years. From the month of August this year I look at my account and my went up to $500!!! I called in and asked why? They said that my wife on the account had 2 claims. My wife has a perfect driving record. I called in Lexis Nexis and had proof that she had no claims. They said that they couldn’t do anything for that month and wanted a $500 payment for the month of August. I cancelled with them and spoke with James (the owner for Bristol West in my area) and had 2 other representatives tell me that we owed nothing 4 different times! So I was okay with this because I didn’t want to pay a bill that big.

3 months down the road I get a letter in the mail saying that we had a $300 payment. I was outraged and tried to call them. They were impossible to reach. I finally got ahold of them and tried to get it figured out and they said that they sent emails, letters, etc. stating the notice for a an outstanding balance. My wife and I haven’t received one thing!!! I received a letter actually from collections. The company would not waive that and needed a full payment. After all of this bull **, my wife and I switched to State Farm insurance. For full coverage on our 2014 Honda CR-V and liability on my truck, we now pay $180 for both. Bristol West is such a rip off and such a scam. Do not, I repeat do not get insurance with this company. And please do your research on insurance companies.

I signed up for an auto policy with Bristol West because they offered a great rate, though I had to purchase renter's insurance in order to obtain the rate. But I was ok with this. I paid the six-month premium upfront. Bristol West then threatened to increase my premium because they claimed that I still lived at an old address. I offered to send a copy of my lease or other proof of residence. They refused to accept any such documentation and instead insisted that I dispute the information with the credit bureau, which is apparently how they incorrectly determined my address.

I filed the dispute with Equifax despite the absurdity of having to go out of my way to deal with a third party that has nothing to do with where I live. I subsequently canceled my policy with Bristol West once my six-month policy was up. Then I received a notice from Bristol West claiming that I owed them $95 with no explanation. I never changed my policy nor had any claims with them. There is no indication on my Bristol West account what this charge is for, nor how to dispute it. The same day that I received the notice from Bristol West, I also received notice from a debt collector that Bristol West apparently turned my "debt" over to. I am still in the process trying to resolve this issue with Bristol West and now have to look into legal options for redressing the damage to my credit :(.

I have full coverage insurance and have had it for 8 yrs with them. My car was stolen when I went to quick check an apartment I was cleaning. I made the police report and then the claim. Patricia ** was the adjuster handling my insurance claim. From the very beginning she was very rude. First thing she said is, "We probably will not approve your claim because it happened at your place of business." Then called me back and said, "Ok we will go through with it." She had me run all across town getting service reports, and bill of sale of my vehicle.

Then said she sent me papers to get notarized. I open the mail and did not find any papers to have notarized, so I called her to ask what am I supposed to have notarized? She said very rudely, “did you even open the letter to look at the papers?” I was like, "Uhhh yea. It’s just a letter confirming you all are taking the claim." She was like, "Oh... let me email them to you real quick then" (no apology). So I finally get them and had to pay 40 dollars at UPS just to get these papers notarized and sent to them. And no I did not get reimbursed for that. I got the call my car had been found two days later. No real damage to the outside but the motor was blown, and they identified the thief as a 17 yr old minor who has already had a history of stealing cars.

A few days later she calls me and says, "Sorry we are denying your claim because we cannot find any proof that the engine being blown was due to the thief having it." We argue for days about this. I say, "What more proof do you need then? My car was running just fine the day I was driving it, and then when I got it back from being stolen, the motor was completely blown?" Patricia was very rude and said “well back in October last yr when you had your oil changed they said there was no oil on the stick prior to the change, what do you expect is going to happen when you drive your car around with no oil in it?”

I said my next oil change said the oil was full prior to, and I did not need to come back for another oil change 6,000 miles. When my car got stolen I still had 500 more miles until I needed to go back for the next oil change, so there are no records indicating that I have not taken care of my car, period!!! And her responses continued to be very rude, she kept raising her voice with me and cutting me off while I was speaking. I ended up going to her supervisor Deborah **. I complained about how rude and unprofessional Patricia ** was and she told me she shouldn’t have spoke to me like that and she will talk to her, but was more trying to defend her and say how good great she actually is (I pretty much figure they are good friends). But Deborah was very pleasant to talk with and respectful I will say that.

But in the end after a week of going back and forth it was the same outcome, that if they could not prove 100% how the engine blew and that it was 100% the thief’s fault, that they could not honor my claim. And also that it does not matter at all that they cannot even prove that anything was wrong with my car or my engine prior to the theft. So now, I have no car that I still owe 3,000 dollars on, even though I have been paying 8yrs for full coverage insurance with them, it has been for absolutely no reason. I don’t know, I guess when they figured out it was a minor who stole my car and they knew they would not be able to collect money out of him, they were dead set on making sure they could deny a mother of 5 children who now has no car, who should have been protected with the FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE SHE HAS BEEN PAYING FOR FOR 8 YRS!!!!

As soon as I am able to, I am canceling my insurance with them, and also my mother, my 3 cousins, my aunt, and my grandmother who are also insured with Bristol West, are canceling theirs as well. So they just lost a total of eight people counting my husband and I as well at one time. I’m absolutely disappointed and disgusted with how Bristol West insurance, and their adjuster Patricia ** treated me. I've never witnessed such unprofessionalism in my life.

They said they could tell I had one, but couldn't see any of the account details. Called again and I told them I wanted to follow through with the cancellation. They sent me a $5 cancellation fee. I paid the fee on time. They continued to harass me several times claiming that they would reinstate my insurance if I paid some random amount of money (it changed every time).

Then they sent me another letter postmarked for May 27th (though I did not receive it in the mail until June 5th), stating that my insurance was renewed the day my policy was originally canceled (March 27th, even though they had previously told me that my insurance was cancelled, and I had already paid the fee) but are now supposedly cancelling it as of May 12th due to non payment even though I had cancelled my policy back in March and had paid the cancellation fee as well. So I wasn't with them for insurance those couple months anyway. They are now trying to charge me for the 2 months after I cancelled my policy and are giving me 1 day to pay them $268 that I never owed them to begin with because my policy was cancelled 2 months earlier.

And on top of all of that, the day they want their payment by, is a Saturday. I received the last letter on a Friday. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. So I can't call them until the payment they are demanding (but I don't actually owe) is late. The repair shop says no, no, no! We would be responsible for remaining cost. Now there is a Emergence Room bill as well, that they are not willing to pay. Bristol West will take advantage of the elderly and poor folks! They BANK on people not standing up and holding them accountable. These people should be ashamed of themselves for what they do. I would not recommend doing business with them. If you have a claim against them, get ready for a battle!!

I could see the cost going up a little if this was the case, but to go from $52 per month to $90 for liability on a 1995 Chevy truck that I own is ridiculous! I am not a Bristol West customer. I was rear-ended by a Bristol West client. Once the police report was available, I filed the claim with Bristol West and everything seemed fine. Adrian was my adjuster and she assured me that it was clear that the accident was not my fault and that Bristol West would pay the claim with no problems. They would also cover my rental car--and that Bristol West had a direct bill arrangement with Enterprise.

I took my car to be fixed (damaged bumper, side panel, and exhaust system). Quote from vendor=$3700+, quote from Bristol West=$1700+ (big difference!)! Day 2 into the repairs I am told by the vendor that BW has a 50% "betterment" charge written into their quote meaning that they will only pay 50% of the cost for the damaged muffler. I (the victim) have to pay the other 50% ($469!). Doesn't sound right or fair to me so I call Adrian to see what she can tell me. Crickets! Messages left for Adrian on Thursday, Friday, and the following Tuesday. NO response. The repair vendor called several times as well and Adrian will not return her calls either.

The lack of professionalism and responsibility is astounding. The company has the contact system so tight that no matter what number you call, you cannot talk with a person. Their system recognizes my cell phone number and continues to direct me back to the voicemail box of Adrian. There is no way to talk with another person or a supervisor to seek answers. Completely ridiculous way to do business. But I can see how it works out nicely for Bristol West.

DAYS went by and I never heard back so I called again- only to be told by DEBBIE (again) that she’s taking care of it. AGAIN- never received anything. So I call AGAIN- and DEBBIE explains they will just cancel the policy and that I’ll get a bill in the mail but just ignore it and then I’ll get a cancellation in the mail. MONTHS later- I get a notice from a COLLECTION AGENCY- “LAMONT, HANLEY & ASSOC. INC” saying I owe $96.95!!!! So I called DEBBIE AGAIN- at Bristol - only to be told - she’ll check into it. AGAIN- NO RETURN CALL.

The next day I get ANOTHER COLLECTION NOTICE- so I called DEBBIE again. And I’m not so nice at this point- and she again says she will check into this. I ask to speak to her supervisor and she says they are not in- and that She will call me back this afternoon. So I called the collection agency- who told me that this policy was PUT IN MY NAME!!!! The Bristol West rep., said if I cancelled today then the ACH wouldn't be deducted from my account, so I signed on with the other insurance company, and paid my first payment. The Bristol West rep simply said call back before end of business to cancel and the ACH won't be deducted.

I called back and talked to a rep, and it took 17 minutes to get the new rep to understand my situation to cancel and stop the ACH. She continued to state that it takes 3 business days to stop the ACH and the previous rep gave me the incorrect information. I asked for a manager, to resolve the contradiction. I finally received the manager after 27 minutes on the line, and she informed me she couldn't stop the ACH, and the first rep had told me incorrect information. Then it would take 7-10 business days to process the cancellation for a refund and 7-10 days to receive a check in the mail. Poor customer service experience has continued during my tenure with this customer, and I was finally fed up.

I called in to find out the reason for this increase and was given a huge runaround and in the end not a satisfactory answer. Keep in mind I have no accidents or tickets and I pay my bill using the auto-pay feature, so no late payments. I have been a customer of Farmer's Insurance for 25 years and expected much better service than what I have received so far. I finally made the decision to switch insurance companies and called in to stop the automatic payment from happening to renew the policy. I was AGAIN, given a huge runaround about this, told that I can't cancel the policy until 10 days prior to the renewal date, and I can not stop the automatic payments until the policy cancels, on top of being told I need to call back at another time to do this. What a crock this is.

Good customer service would have said something along the lines of, "We are sorry to hear of your decision to leave, but we will be happy to assist you and make sure that the policy the policy is terminated on time and that your automatic payment will be stopped when you requested." No wonder companies can't seem to keep customers, you want to overcharge for your services, then make the customers feel as if they aren't appreciated, and when someone calls in to ask for help, they get a runaround instead of actual customer service. I will be calling back to cancel the policy AS DIRECTED, but I can honestly say that I am so happy I will no longer have to deal with such crappy customer service.

I had a total loss over being caught in a flash floods with my vehicle. The adjuster stated if I could verify what the odometer miles were from a recent service visit, then those would be what we would use on valuation. Well I almost lost my life & had to be rescued. The whole event has been extremely traumatic. Several Documents, possessions were damaged. I was not getting replacement coverage, like I thought I was paying for. Also, I had no rental coverage. So without a vehicle now & the rude adjuster, lied about comparisons & what we originally agreed to on mileage. I went immediately to work with our local Ford dealer & they did an extensive search for matching vehicles with similar miles & features. There were none!! Anywhere that were an even close match.

So when I was on the phone with them I also got info. About what the payout value by law on a total loss would be. The dealer stated the bottom minimum was 31,000.00 the top being 34,500. Which they believed I should fight for the top. Due to recent proof of Service, including mileage & excellent condition on the report. Yet the adjuster lowballed it to 27,000.00 not telling me she upped the mileage by 3500 & didn't enter all my features. As well as trying to claim my tires were bad & my seats.

Worst than that when I got time to open her comparison valuation? I found out she used higher miles & vehicles that either never existed? Fraud, or were completely lied about when I called the dealerships to verify the comparisons. When I confronted the adjuster she stated, "Well that's too bad, Negotiations are closed & you're not getting any more." And she hung up on me!! Lol Sent proof to my agent & said I want her to get another adjuster & file a grievance. Haven't heard anything out of here either. Plus I am still being auto debited full premium even though I submitted paperwork on going to nonvehicle coverage til this is settled.

Called my agent on this as well. No response. Kathleen **. Farmer's Agent out of Andover, Mn This is devastating to say the least. Plus they demanded I fill out new title paperwork & sign with no Odometer reading?? But yet they wanted to value it @ over what it really had to cheat me. Then they're gonna resell it & lie about it & put some lower Number in after I signed this crap.

But joke's on them, cause I had a name change. Which I told them. After somehow it got registered this past year in my old name. But reality is the true title is in my new name & I still have. They will not get it until this made right. Don't use this company for cheaper premium! Like I did. I had no idea, they were poorly rated. It's not worth the risk????.

I received an official cancellation on the 18th due to lack of payment. The best part was since they overextended for a week of coverage they needed $135 dollars to cover that if I didn’t want them anymore as my provider. My monthly payment was $210. How in the hell does that math work? My best advice is if you enjoy terrible customer service, throwing money out the window, and being on hold, this is the best insurance company for you.

So me and my daughter can not get reimbursed for our medical bills, stress etc.... The money I used to get another car was my rent money. On top of that I was just evicted because I just could not afford everything. Bw has not contact me. My lien holder refuse to remove the paid car off my credit report as being paid.

My unborn grandchild has been trying to come early with possible blood clot in heart. So we go to her dr 2 times a week. The guy that hit my car had the nerve to say I'M harassing him. But him and his wife just brought a beautiful new home with a amazing backyard and pool. He owns his own business. Travels and enjoying life. We live in shelter now in Az, can get approved for new place because of eviction and also low credit because if my lien put repo on my credit June 1st. Bw still not returned my calls. I will be filing a lawsuit and have them all served when I get $150 for them to be served per court. I am beyond disgusted. However, the car is STILL sitting in my sister-in-law's driveway, and NOTHING has been done! Since they were closed on the weekends (REALLY?), we had to pay out of pocket for a rental, even though we have rental coverage! We went to the rental company when we got home to trade the car in for a cheaper option since BW only covers a certain amount. Bristol West is the worst insurance company that I have ever dealt with! Decided to cancel after needing to make a claim and realizing what a horrible company they were to deal with. Our vehicle was stolen but they treated me like I was the bad guy. Their reps were very rude to me, as a loyal customer. They even tried to deny my claim, by saying I didn't submit pictures, which I did on their app. They found the pictures I had submitted, then tried to deny by stating I had not submitted my full payment history on the vehicle, even though they didn't initially ask for it. I finally got the claim settled and policy cancelled, all documents on their website showed I had a zero balance.

Over a month after cancelling my policy I get a "final notice prior to collections" letter that shows I have a balance going to collections on April 9th. I didn't even get this collection notice until April 12th which was on a Friday. I tried to call Bristol West and they were already closed. Tried to use their online service to pay the "supposed" past due bill, but it showed there was a zero balance. Tried to use their automated phone service to pay and it stated that I had balance of $0.00 that needed paid by 04/13/19 or it would be turned over to collections.

On Saturday 04/13/19 I received a letter from the collection company! Can not contact either company until Monday 04/15/19 and now fear that my credit rating is in jeopardy, when I did nothing wrong. Had I received the supposed $232 bill from the time I cancelled on 02/24/19 to the collection notice on 04/05/19 I would have definitely called to straighten it out, before ever being threatened with collections. According to all documents, I was cancelled with a zero balance. I truly believe they are doing this as retaliation, because I cancelled them after settling a claim, even though I had been insured and had never made a claim for nearly two years. I DO NOT recommend this company. If you ever need to file a claim, they will make a bad situation worse. Get rid of them and they're still creating hell in my life.

Somebody backed into my RV who was insured with Bristol. It's been over a month since we filed a claim and still no resolution. They offered me $600 for $4500 damage! Each time I call my claim adjuster or rep nobody's available and they never call me back when I leave a message. They are trying to stall paying the claim at all costs. This is the worst, cheapest insurance company I've ever had to deal with, do not waste your hard earned money on this fraud!

Bristol West is the absolute worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. I started a policy in February and had to put down 602.80 and my monthly payments were 329.08 and I should have receives a discount for automatic payment. But I was unable to access my account online due to a technical issue on their end. And I called and called about the issue, even spoke to a supervisor, and said it was not fair that I didn't get the discount due to an issue on their end and he said, "Well we don't compensate." Then they didn't see the information for a CARCO inspection right away and dropped the comprehensive and collision coverage until they did and then my payment went up to 540 a month. And when I questioned the increase they, "Well that's what it is now since we put the comprehensive and collision back on and it was less than 30 days."

Today I called to let them know I am canceling, due to the fact that I found a better insurance company with no downpayment and monthly payments of 242.00 and questioned if I would be refunded anything from the 602.80 deposit. They said NO!!! I will never recommend this company. They are the worst, they are thieves.

Even though I cancel Bristol West they still took the money from my checking account. The manager Natalie has been refusing my calls. Seem like I got to go through my bank and let them do their own investigations. Stay away from these guys.

They have no way to file claims or talk to a human being outside of their standard M-F business hours. On top of that, if your credit card happens to expire during an auto-renewal period they will not try and process the payment until your coverage lapses, and they will not provide coverage during that period, and they will not notify you until about a week after it lapses. Find a real insurance company. These guys are a joke.

We had Progressive for over a year, and after sending a letter thanking us for our loyalty they then renewed our policy at a 20% increase? I called a local agent to price other insurance, and even though we technically had a lapse (our Progressive canceled a few days before we finalized the new insurance) they still considered us insured and did not increase our rates for the lapse of insurance.

We saved over $100 a month for 2 vehicles, were able to go online the next day and print our ID cards as well as email them to myself so I can pull them up whenever needed. So far, no complaints. For the price I understand they may not be stellar coverage, but we have what we need for our older paid off cars, and the peace of mind that we are covered.

I had just switched to Foremost/Bristol West after 30 years of a perfect driving record. Boom! Got broadsided by an underinsured driver. From the very first call, the company representatives treated me with the greatest respect and kindness. Made sure I got the medical care I needed, and gave me the best settlement they could, according to my policy. They, in fact, saved my life. My rate did go up some, but understandable with the money they paid. I will be their customer for life and hope no more accidents. ;o ]

I'm not one who is easily offended but man am I pissed off right now! So the Bristol West insurance company FINALLY called me back a little bit ago (only took 6 days). I had to leave a ton of messages before this happened though. The guy who called seemed very annoyed from the beginning. I told him about my daughter's accident and that we needed to get this claim rolling because not having a vehicle is a problem for her. He said he was going to put me on hold and talk to an adjuster. Well I was not on hold like he thought. I could hear everything he was saying about me and it was vulgar and rude! Calling me a ** and a maggot and a whole variety of other insults.

I allowed him to continue until he "came back" to the conversation with me. Obviously I exploded on him at that point and then I hung up. He called back. My husband answered that time and unloaded on him some more. The guy actually had the nerve to say he is canceling our claim! He got caught and somehow we were in the wrong for being upset! It's illegal to cancel a claim when someone's pays for insurance! Someone please contact me if you can help!

My truck got stolen. I went to PD gave a report, got a report number called BW opened a claimed, they never told me that if they dont get a police report within 40 days of the claim they are going to close the claim without paying for my truck! Called the police station and they said it normally take about 1 to 2 months got a police report!!!

So they use that 40 day crap to not pay for your car. They know how long it would take to get one! I pay for full coverage and have rent a car arrangement! But yet they didn't give me a rental car on top of that. They called me 20 days after the claim saying if they dont get the report they are not going to pay for the car will close the claim! It's better to pay 10 bucks more and go with a different company then going with BW. You cant get ahold of anybody. They make it very difficult to speak with someone and you cant even understand what they say. Do not go with this company!

After having me take pictures of my car damage, as a result of Bristol West’s member hitting my car in my driveway, I was made to upload them on their app to get a repair. They would not send an adjuster, they just wanted to send a quick check to me and discard taking proper care of my claim. Prior to my repairs, I called the adjuster Sonia ** to ask for a car rental during my repairs, and I was referred to Enterprise as she told me they work with Bristol West. Turned out they never heard of them, and they didn’t reserve a car prior, like I had requested. They were out of economy cars on their lot, so I went to Avis and grabbed their last one. I had to pay up front and did not get fully reimbursed by them.

What infuriated me is that I had called Sonia several times prior to make sure everything would transpire smoothly and she reassured me with false information. She assured me weekends would not count in the 5 “business days” alotted towards rental coverage. She sent me a letter with my partial reimbursement, stating she would cover the weekends as a kind gesture. She also stated I am required to pay the difference in price for my economy car rental without acknowledging any of the false information she gave to me about Enterprise. Also, calls are never returned in a reasonable amount of time if at all. Beware of the business practices of this insurance group and this adjuster.

I started with this company through an agent just in 2018 (October). The quote was for 160$ monthly full coverage for a 2014 Chevy Cruze. I've never had a ticket, accident, or any other fines etc. Also I was supposed to have gotten a bunch of discounts. Plus I'm a female that's 39 who got her licence when I was 16. So anyway, I said yes to the 160$ quote.

I've been recently looking at my bank balance because it seems I'm missing money. So I go back and this company has been taking 222.00 out of my account MONTHLY WITHOUT ANY PERMISSION OR NOTIFICATION. So I call the insurance agent and they gave him some lame story that the 160 was a quote for an older car. Well he knows it's bull and told me while I was at the bank on speaker phone as I was filling out a fraud report. So this company is not getting away with my money. They drafted the payments on different days of the month sometimes before and sometimes after the agreed upon date. The amount changed by a dollar and some cents month to month so I highly doubt that they are going to pass this fraud report.

Hopefully this review helps others. If you have insurance with this company and they are screwing you, go to the bank, fill out a fraud report stating what you were told the amount would be and what they are taking. Also if the quote goes up, they have to notify you either by mail or email and get the okay from you before they can just up the amount they take out of the bank. Just stay far away from this company. It will save you many headaches. I had to open a new account because I had to put a fraud alert on the new one.

They have been sitting on my claim now for almost 2 months with basically zero contact with me other than trying 3 times to send a tow truck to take my vehicle when the claim has not been settled. Thank God I got my life to report on these scammers. They like to call you liars, put you on hold 20 mins for them to get a supervisor. When in all reality they've been rehearsing the exact thing they said to you with their family member. When you get someone with an accent you can barely understand, makes you think that maybe the 412 SCAM from Nigeria, hasn't made it in another route called scamming insurance. Don't be fooled.
