I am currently insured with Bristol West and communication has been a headache! My car is currently in the shop. When I made my initial claim, I was sent a link to take photos and stuff... They made arrangements for me to get a rental (cool) and then sent me a check to get the car fixed for less than half of what is needed to fix the car. The collision company has been having so many problems getting in touch with BW. I've even been calling and not getting my calls returned. It has now passed the 30 days for my rental to be covered, so I sent it back. My mom came in town since she was furloughed so I could drive her car, but now that the government shutdown is over, she has to return to work... meaning I am carless! I can reserve another rental at a discounted rate... but my car could've been done today had BW communicated properly with the collision center. This is ridiculous!

Bristol West is horrible, my payment went up 800 dollars I had no accident or tickets. So I called and canceled my policy and the next month I see they withdrew 1260 dollars from my account. For the month following my cancellation and now I received a letter saying I owe them $910.68. I called and asked them how and why and they have no answers. I have been transferred over 4 times now. Told to call back another day to get the right person. Don’t get Bristol west. I never even received insurance cards or proof of insurance.

Bristol West was my only option leaving the dealership in my car. The payment at first was maybe $350, I am a low risk driver in my 40's. Still paid that price whatever. Now going on 3rd payment and suddenly the price is over $500!? For what? I have no payments on my car, it's not brand new. That is a huge increase of money without warning or explanation.

This saddens me that I have to write this review but the deception and lies from Bristol West and Savvy Insurance is totally unacceptable and downright disturbing and no telling how many other victims have been taken advantage of. Money was taken out of my account without authorization and then when I called customer service, I was given the run around and have spoken with seven different customer service agents thus continued, being put on hold and transferred and promises of calls back from supervisors. I have names, times and dates of my interaction. I am more than disappointed, I am utterly disgusted because they are refusing to call me back. I have been on the phone for the past week for hours and sent multiple emails to no avail. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Google Reviews and I am seeking legal representation so this won't happen to other hardworking customers.

Be cautious when dealing with Bristol West Insurance. The people who work for them are scammers. They totaled my 2020 Benz, which was in excellent condition with only 40,000 miles on it, due to a minor water leak in the trunk caused by a damaged seal on the sunroof. Instead of fixing the $2,600 damage, they preferred to total my vehicle and pay the lien holder $21,000 and I had to take care of the remainder amount due.
The original adjuster totaled my car without even inspecting it. However, after I picked it up and took it to a mechanic, I found out that the damage was only $2,600. I requested the total damage report but never received it, and their customer service never got back to me. I had to file a complaint against the company in the state of Florida, which was the only time they contacted me—through a text message. I was left in the dark about the status of my car. The adjuster, their supervisor, and the towing company all engaged in unethical behavior by taking vehicles in good condition and totaling them to turn a profit. Beware, Bristol West is the worst company ever.
Do not trust them if they say they are sending someone to pick up your car for evaluation; chances are, their real intention is to determine how much money they can make from it. After a month without my car, they came back with a weak explanation that the damage was an "act of God" due to water intrusion during heavy rains in Florida. This was not an act of God; it was caused by a damaged seal that allowed water to enter the interior of the car. This was their way of justifying their actions and profiting from their mediocre service. Fortunately, I have moved on to a better insurance company and will never deal with these fraudsters again. I am currently receiving messages from other victims, and we are considering filing a class action lawsuit against this fraudulent company.

They were terrible at handling my accident claim. My daughter was supposedly at fault and she was door dashing. We had the commercial insurance for ride share and delivery. Horrible, horrible firm. They will secretly hit you with fees when you are in between your payments. Then they will charge you because they require auto payment, so on a bill of $171, I was getting charged $209, thankfully I checked my account as I tend to do periodically and found the excessive charges. Then when I called and asked to cancel they kept me on the phone for more than an hour, telling me they were getting me to somebody, and while I'm waiting some lady told me that if I wanted to cancel I'd have to pay and additional fee. I am reporting this business to the main farmers office and also BBB.
Do not use this company. They will steal your money and lie about your coverage. I also added liability for our second car, paid, signed the documents, and when I checked my account there was NO coverage on my other car. Yet they still took my money. Such a terrible company. I set up autopay, it tried to process two separate months, and was returned both times with an almost $40 return fee each time. Well, I'm trying to get a secured loan for a vacation and am using my car as collateral. Since the payment wasn't taken out, I had to make the payment and upgrade to full coverage.
The next morning, I made the payment and upgraded to full coverage. I went back to get the loan that day, and the insurance company could not confirm that I had upgraded to full coverage. For some reason, they take 24 hours to process payments, even though you aren't paying by credit. For whatever reason that will never make sense, they couldn't verify I had full coverage until their system finished processing. What an absolute joke of a company, and I wouldn't be surprised if they go into liquidation and are taken over by the state soon.

I was rear ended by a person insured with Bristol West. It took over a month with multiple emails/calls to get them to accept liability. I took my car in for an estimate but Bristol West made me submit pictures so they could decide on their own estimate which was half of what the repair shop quoted. Now my car is sitting at the repair shop because the cost is more than BM allocated and they aren’t returning calls to accept the additional fees. This has been nothing but a headache and I wasn’t even at fault! Unless you have a ton of extra time on your hands and the patience of a saint I would recommend using a more reliable, customer friendly insurance company, not Bristol West.

Extremely poor customer service and quickly rising rates. I insured a pickup truck. I drive maybe 500 miles annually and initially I had a good rate but with renewals every 6 months and increases with each renewal within a couple years my good rate had doubled (zero accidents, zero claims, always paid in advance). I chose a new insurance that gave me less than half what Bristol West was going to renew me for, I went online to cancel my policy 10 days before autorenewal kicked in and the online portal indicated I would be getting a $20 refund.
I never got the refund which wasn't too important but then a few months later I got a notice they were sending me to collections for $30 because I am in California and CA residents have to pay a $50 cancellation fee which Bristol West did not disclose (they told me I was to expect a refund then they charged me a penalty and sent me directly to collections). Bristol West is a very dishonest company with non-existent customer service, they will give you a good price the first policy but will quickly raise your rates (literally doubled in 2 years) and then they will charge you hidden fees for leaving them.

Had two act of god claims that Bristol West seriously mis-handled. One they clearly didn't review the photos, only included 3 panels in the estimate when the vehicle had damage on 8 panels, CLEARLY shown in the photos. They refused to review. Other vehicle they didn't include damage of several parts. I repeatedly tried contacting the supervisor Heather B who would not call me back after several voicemails. They then setup a settlement with a 3 day expiration to create a sense of urgency on my part. I told them in voicemail, portal and email that I DECLINE their settlement. They have since went no contact. At this point I can only assume that this is purposely malicious to get out of paying damage. I will be reaching out to my state's dept of insurance to report this. Not even a 1/3 of the damage was noted on the estimate. Truly unbelievable that a company can have this bad of service for their own customers.

When I talked to one lady, I could barely understand, she hung up on me because I told her how upset I was! I am 71 years old and on Social Security. I cannot afford this! I cancelled the policy. If I could leave a zero review I would. This is not a cheap insurance. I had a "total" on my last vehicle, which I was not even 1% at fault for. The semi company took full responsibility. Bristol West had listed on my information that I was somewhat at fault, NOT TRUE. I found a way better insurance that was not breaking my bank, I called BW to cancel, the rep said all that I needed to do was reply to the email they sent asking for the cancel request info, so I replied soon after that with all the info they had asked for.
Days later, they asked for the same info, to which I replied to them a good reply about them already having that info. Another few days later they sent an official form asking for the same info. I wrote on that form in RED to CANCEL, filled out the form and emailed back in all the information. All while my husband is on the phone with them as well, and they are acting dumb, like they have not received any cancel request from me. They are taking their time in giving us the "correct" email to send this form to, which does not make any sense, being that the email tells you which email to send to? Sooo, why are they playing games with customers? Highly unprofessional and aggravating!!! Steer clear!! The insurance industry should be taken out of the mandatory vehicle requirements altogether. It's a scam.

Would not recommend getting your car hit and totaled by someone with this insurance. They lowball the ACV of your car and don't care. It's a shame what greed does to a company. I have a good driving record and good credit as well. I have no idea how I ended up with this company when I thought I was signing up with Farmers Insurance. Jason ** from farmers insurance doesn’t return calls. I was in a no fault accident in August where my car was totaled-they first tried to settle stating minor repairs. I felt like the repairs were more than minor so I contacted them numerous times to find out where to take my car for repairs-they can’t offer any kind of advice like that. Bristol West's claims adjuster Nico ** wouldn’t return calls. His supervisor Phoebe wouldn’t return calls (get everything in writing with these people).
I took the car to Kia who informed me my car was totaled, "They just keep asking us to resubmit pictures and we are doing it but your car is totaled." I had to resubmit pictures a handful of times before Kia. The other insurance company of the guy that hit me ruled I was 15% at fault? The driver hit me because he wasn’t paying attention-he started screaming I destroyed his life so I called 911. I took the accident report to another insurance company who looked at the report and said you are not at fault.
I contacted Bristol West and they said they accepted the 15% fault as a business decision. The other company still hasn’t settled (Frontier) they called back about car seats that they said Bristol west said were in my car. I have no kids, there were no car seats in my car. This was in August 2024. This is still ongoing as of January 2025. Bristol West didn’t inform me of their decision to accept a 15% blame on my behalf. This is unacceptable. I got a letter a few months into this that due to only being with my current company Bristol West for less than 6 months I was denied insurance with this new company.
I contacted Bristol West informing them I had no idea of looking for insurance with another company. Farmers Insurance Jason Waugh decided on his own to sign me up for this company - as a licensed agent why would he try and sign me up with another company when I hadn’t even been with this company for 6 months. They also like to send text messages from unknown numbers and messages where they state settlement amounts and you text back and no response(I have them all) opt out of their text messages for your own protection.
I opted out of text messages but still got a text from Jason ** that my car insurance was expiring in January but I could renew if paid by February - this was for my car that was totaled in August and Jason ** from Farmers is trying to renew a policy on a totaled car. This has been a very long 6 months. Farmers Insurance and Bristol West are somehow 1 company. This has been a long 6 months and I have never had to put out so many fires in my life

I truly wish zero stars were an option. Dealing with this company has been an absolute nightmare. Their poor communication, constant oversights, and lack of accountability made an already difficult situation even worse. Shockingly, I had to hire an attorney to represent me against my own insurance carrier after an accident where I wasn’t at fault. The policies and handling felt designed to work against me rather than protect my interests, which is the bare minimum you’d expect from an insurance company. Pieter **, a representative, was especially unhelpful—his approach was confrontational and added unnecessary stress to the process. It’s hard to understand how such behavior is tolerated in a company supposedly focused on customer care. I strongly recommend anyone considering this company to proceed with caution and fully understand their policies before committing.

I had to get Bristol West cause they were the only insurance company that would give me insurance cause I'm a high risk driver cause of surcharge. I have like a million surcharge. They are like 10 times cheaper than Progressive. My only other option was Progressive and they blow them out the water payment wise. I always pay my insurance on time. I haven't had any issues so far but I haven't filed any claims either. I'm very cautious now. Being a high risk driver I try to be extra careful. I don't want anyone hitting me and I don't wanna be at risk hitting anyone else.
I'm just trying to keep them for a certain amount of years till my surcharge go down and I'm eligible for a better insurance company but price wise they're way better than other insurance companies like Progressive or GEICO that offer 6 month policies. 6 month policies you get screwed no matter what price wise. I get every deduction possible. No matter what. All insurance companies suck. A lot of them go by your credit, your criminal record, your driving mistakes. No insurance companies nowadays wanna pay out anything but price wise way way better than the other 6 month car policy companies. I've had good luck with them so far and I hope no matter what insurance company I have now I'm not being a risk on the road. I wanna be able to get my driving record better than the past was. You can't win no matter what.
Nowadays you think you're gonna get a payout from any insurance company but price wise for basic coverage my insurance is more than half less than Progressive and full coverage. You're talking 500 dollars a month cheaper than Progressive and that's with a high deductible but if I had a low deductible you're talking way more than that from Progressive for a high deductible for same coverage. With a 1000 thousand dollar deductible it's 500 month cheaper than Progressive and Progressive gives you like no deductions. Progressive wants over 800 a month for me to have full coverage with a 1000 dollar deductible. I think they're definitely ok for me. I wouldn't be wasting my time thinking you gonna get a payout from any insurance company. I'd suggest try to be a safe driver. It's not worth it.
