By far the worst insurance company I've EVER dealt with. Insurance agent sold me a dream. He hounded me to come me on board. Once on board, he did not submit proper paperwork for automatic draft billing. As a result, I now have to pay the Georgia Department of Revenue for insurance lapse. Agent Bernard ** (Georgia) now has a memory lapse. Third mishap with this company since 07/2015. Disgusted customer!!!

I like both insurance companies. I was with American Family for 15 years and loved their service although a bit pricey. When I bought my new car State Farm offered me a lower rate that American Family couldn't match. It was a big enough difference for me to switch companies. I've been with State Farm for 4 years and have no complaints. I love their service and products and customer service.

He did not pressure me in any way but did offer recommendations and explained his reasons behind them. I was able to increase my coverage and still save hundreds of dollars compared to my previous insurer.

Another staff member told me the adjuster has the information needed to make a determination. But Phil tells me he still has to talk to the other driver, five weeks after the accident. He then determines I rear-ended a car and then was rear-ended. Just cause you're a liar doesn't mean everyone else is. My back end would have been a lot more damaged if I was already against the car ahead of me.

I am upset that now I have to shop for another company with my three cars and homeowners policy. How stupid would I be to stay after this lesson. The car would total out at about $1400. I lost about a grand in resale value. I pay that every six months. Their small claim avoidance will cost them more. Shame on them, Phil and the ones who haven't reprimanded and discharged adjusters like him. The stars are for the good people who have been helpful and have to take the heat for the bad apples.

I called and left several messages in regards to removing an additional vehicle off my auto policy since no one ever answered the phone. I was contacted after I called 800MYAMFAM and the representative reached out to the office. I got a call back from Tammie ** who stated that she was unable to complete my request but would pass it on to someone else who could. When I asked about my new premium she said it would reflect in the next billing cycle which was only a few weeks away so I was willing to wait.

I made all of my monthly payments for the one vehicle and knew that I would be credited for my overpayment in April so I was surprised and frustrated when I received a cancellation notice for both vehicles. Again I reached out to the insurance agent and no answer. I called the 800 # and they stated that there was nothing they could do without the agent back-dating to the original date requested. Spoke with the Ms ** again and she stated that she would try her best to work everything out. She was waiting on billing to credit my account for the overage I had paid and then my policy would be reinstated with no lapse. She never got back to me and I could not reach anyone at the office. So I called the 800# again and the representative told me that a refund was mailed to me 4 days earlier and I would have to pay the down payment or wait to receive the check and turn it over to them.

Why am I being penalized for someone else errors? Why am I taking a risk of driving uninsured because of someone's negligence? I pay my bill on time and I'm told "Sorry and I can't help you" or "Sorry you have to figure it out"? Every time I asked to speak with the manager he was out of the office or in a meeting. I ask to have him call me and never have I gotten that. I never realized how in incompetent the office staff was because I always dealt with one person in particular (Sewell) who was always knowledgeable and proficient. My wife was in an fender bender where the car in front backed into her bumper. We called the police and filed a report just to make sure we had all the paperwork to avoid a he-said-she-said afterwards. Police report recorded the insurance details and we called American Family for next steps. After getting all the details of the incident, American Family agent called us a month later rejecting our claim. The reason he gave was, "We have not been able to contact the owner of the vehicle to confirm the details of the accident. Apparently the owner's friend was driving the truck. Without the owner's confirmation, we cannot process the claim."

Given that the police officer took the insurance information and put it on the incident report, I am assuming the car is insured by American Family Auto and they are liable for this incident. Not sure what else we are supposed to do in this situation. We thought, given police involvement, we had covered all our bases, but apparently insurance companies have lots of ways to get out and not pay for the incident.

I already have eight other policies with Am Fam as a direct result of the confidence I had in my agent. Today, two business day later, I received a robo-email from someone introducing themselves as my new agent! What?!?! I am extremely disappointed in American Family Insurance. They seem shady and cheap. I assessed agents and personally selected my agent from many people and companies. He is someone I have grown to know and rely on, and has been my trusted advisor on all things risk and insurance for almost two years now. I don't know about the general public, but I don't do business with businesses. I do business with people. People I trust and respect.

When I contacted this supposed new agent of mine, all I got was some useless story about her being in business with her husband and kids - nothing addressing my concerns. Maybe her family is nice, or the doc is. It's or they will soon marry their son to another insurance person - but this is not who I chose to do business with. There was no semblance of professional, business, or human understanding - only her own empty self-promotion. I have real assets and have worked hard to get this far. I will take my business elsewhere.

Here is the kicker, American Family shut my agent down because his numbers were not high enough. Or whatever their excuse was. He was a new agency owner who met his goals and received awards, and he was trustworthy, experienced, and was the person I chose to do business with. I put my own reputation on the line and referred business to them - people who trusted me, but now they discarded a valuable agent and gave my business to a complete stranger? I put my own reputation on the line. Bad form, Am Fam. Bad character. If this is how they treat their agents and customers on a good day, I dread the day I might actually need them to handle a claim. I am moving my business elsewhere and will tell everyone I had referred about this pathetic experience.

They cut off my rental before my car was driveable. I was left totally stranded & had to call a taxi to pick me up from returning rental! I had notarized statements & receipts for what I paid out of my pocket to get my car driveable enough to get it home from the body shop! They refused to wait for the parts (which had been ordered) to come in! AmFam wanted to total my car & give me hardly anything for it, plus not pay all of my repair out of pocket costs.

Between these actual expenses, plus my large medical costs, I'm out a lot of $! After trying to deal w/ them on my own, was forced to retain an atty. More than a year has gone by & they still refuse to try to settle fairly. The insured had a fairly low policy limit & AmFam still refuses to settle fairly! Due to the adjustor always out of the office or not returning calls, I'm now facing my attorney filing a full lawsuit w/ the court. I've been forced to use a legal defense fund loan (at a very high interest rate) to try to cover some of the expenses I've had to pay on my own. I called and left a message for our adjuster. I did not hear back from him. I called the next day and left a message saying that it been two days and I had not received a call back.

The adjuster finally called me back and told me that my husband needed to make a recorded statement. He also told me that if my husband called and got the adjuster's voice mail, to leave a time when my husband would be available to talk. Ok fine. My husband left a time and the adjuster never called. He called him two hours later and of course, my husband was out of cell range. I promptly called the adjuster's manager and explained the situation. The manager said that she was sorry, the entire team had gone to lunch! She assured me that someone would call to get a statement asap.

Then the angry adjuster called me back and argued with me. He was SO unprofessional and argumentative--told me that if I didn't like the service that I should go through my own insurance company. I hung up on him and called his manager back. She told me that there is no way to move my claim to another adjuster, so that is wonderful. I have worked on claims with other insurance companies and have NEVER been treated with this amount of disrespect and lack of professionalism. This company is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!! Well not but a few days later I was advised my rates just went up due to something found on my Motor Vehicle Record. I said well maybe I will just look around and I canceled. American Family Insurance agreed to pay us 40 dollars a day for the car. He had the car for 29 days and his total came to over $1200 after tax. The rep from AFI refuses to pay the amount agreed on, insinuating I am a liar and accusing us of trying to cut corners to make her look like the bad guy. This is terrible and unprofessional behavior.

Trying to resolve the situation, I reduced the rate of the rental car to 32 dollars a day (the lowest my boss would allow), saving the insurance company well over 200 dollars. They still argued with us. She then CALLED THE CUSTOMER, saying that we are overcharging and screwing the customer over and that he will have to pay out of pocket, which is completely ludicrous given that they had agreed to this price prior. Now we are dealing with both a confused and angry customer, and an unprofessional insurance rep.

I have tried reaching out to her supervisor, however he doesn't seem interested in returning my calls. Now their customer is going to have to pay out of pocket, they are not doing their job. From all employees here at an auto body, repair, rental, and towing center we STRONGLY advise you against insuring with American Family. It is a nightmare for both customer and auto center. I canceled my Am Fam policy and a week later received from my agent a post card that asked me to come back they could get me a better rate. Why not just provide me the best option to begin with. I will not be back.

Then a month later I received a bill for $96. They claim that my ATV is a 9 month policy that is paid over 12 months and provides 12 months of coverage. I asked if I paid the rest of the policy through Feb would I be covered through Feb. I was told no. That I needed to pay but would not be provided insurance for the time I paid for. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! The problem is the letters are threatening referral to a collection agency and I don't want my credit ruined over $100. So watch out for extortion! Also we had a leak and water damage they would not cover. We were told if we had found it sooner (it was a pipe behind our dishwasher) it would have been covered. On June 16, 2014, my 2012 Chevy Captiva LTZ was damaged by hail. It was parked in Edgerton MN (which is now included in the Federally declared disaster area for storm damage). I reported it to my agent right after it happened (within 30 minutes). It took 3 days for the adjuster to come and look at my car. I had 2 different body shops tell me it was totaled out before the adjuster looked at it. The adjuster spoke with the body shop on June 18th and agreed with the body shop it was probably totaled based on the description he received from the body shop. The adjuster came and looked at the car on June 19th and decided it can be fixed. His estimate to fix the car (Blue Book Value of the car is $20,000) was $7508.53 which did not include damage to the right rear door. His estimate had paintless dent removal for all of the damage.

Here is the problem - 2 of the areas he has paintless dent removal should have been replaced as they had 38 and 83 dents in the sections of the car - which included dents in the body lines of the car (areas where it is supposed to have bends). When a car has damage to the body lines - the part should be replaced as most body shops cannot fix damage to the body lines. If these parts were replaced, the damage exceeds 75% of the value of the car (quoted by the body shop with damage over $15,000) - in effect totaling the car out.

I spoke with my agent on June 27 and on July 3 and was not pleased. I did not agree with the estimate nor with the way the adjuster said to fix my car. I spoke with an additional body shop and agreed to have the paintless dent guy look at the car on July 7. When the adjuster redid his estimate on July 11 (he spoke with the paintless dent guy on July 7 and redid his quote when the paintless dent guy said that the panels in question should be replaced), He then told me that traditional means of fixing the car were going to be used - meaning filling in the dents with putty and covering up the putty with paint. This was unacceptable to me as my car is fairly new and it greatly reduced the value of the car to fill it full of putty and cover it up.

I tried expressing my opinion but nothing I said made a difference. It was like paying for prime rib and getting hamburger in return. We were willing to work to have the car repaired - but fixing it the right way. By July 14th, my husband and I decided it was no longer worth the hassle of fighting the insurance company - they were not listening to what we had to say so we took the insurance check and took out a loan on our other truck and we paid off the Captiva - we then sold it and bought a different car. As soon as we are able to find a different insurance company, we are planning on leaving this company - after being with the same company for over 25 years of our insurance needs. We feel we have been treated poorly. I will NEVER recommend this company again and will not tolerate being treated this poorly.

The catch was the fact I had a car charger in the car at the time, this still does not make any sense to me if the charger which is not even part of the phone purchase an after the sale accessory turns out to be why American Family won't cover the expensive cell phone. The adjusters were argumentative and completely unprofessional. I was never sent their estimate (truck was totaled)...suddenly I got a call from a THIRD adjuster and was told my rental would end I had to take their settlement, informed her I'd never seen it. I finally got it, it was very low and poorly done. At the beginning I asked for limits, in Arizona they don't have to share that with you until and only if you file a lawsuit. The first property damage adjuster told me 25/50/50 (very low for a person who owns a home, toys and makes $200k annually (their driver)). Each adjuster in succession stuck with telling me those limits.

Fast forward, a year and I had blown through those limits with treatments and decided to send a demand packet (200 plus pages) and demanded full limits. I gave the adjuster 2 weeks. At end of 2 weeks I rec'd a call, he needed another 10-14 days. I told him he had a week. After that he did not return calls, answer calls, respond emails etc. My adjuster got involved and asked him when she could expect an exhaustion of limits letter (was under the impression of the/ 2550/50 limits also) and he said it would be that week. Two weeks later we have heard nothing. Finally I left multiple VMs and sent an email giving him 24 hours. THREE DAYS later he gives me an offer OVER the $25k. I was shocked. I then emailed him demanding the REAL limits. My adjuster called him and he tried to back paddle about what he told her.

Then I FINALLY got hold of him and he was very defensive and argumentative. Then started to be just flat insulting and rude. I told him due to clear trust issues I would no longer work with him and he could have his supervisor call me, that I would not be treated poorly or have my injuries played down and mocked. I am now having an attorney review everything. I also intend to file a complaint with the AZ Dept. of Insurance and with that AZ Attorney General's office, as well as the AZ Corporation Commission. I fully intend to call the corporate counsel of AF and put them on notice as well.

They then call me and tell me that the roof needs replacing (it's 12 years old) and that if I do not get the roof fixed immediately, they refuse to cover me.

I don't even own it yet! Closing is pending for the beginning of next month! So you expect to buy a new roof when 1) it's not my house yet, and 2) there's nothing even wrong with it before you cover me?! I told them where they could put their coverage. They're not even the best homeowner's insurance company. If you look on Consumer Reports, you'll see they're at the bottom of the list for claims, customer service and premiums. Take my advice. If you can, go with USAA, Amica or one of the other better insurance companies that are higher on the CR list. Don't even waste your time AmFam.

Below I've listed the other "issues" I've had with AmFam over the years. I will never do business with them again. 1) Homeowner's claim for basement flooding in 2012: AmFam said they paid all the contractors used to clean my basement, but they didn't and left me paying a $1,000 bill to one of the contractors. 2) Rear-ended by a utility truck in 2014: AmFam wouldn't pay for anything until I paid my deductible. I had to hire an attorney to get the at-fault insurance company to pay my deductible for me. My car was in the shop getting fixed when AmFam calls and says, "We can no longer pay for your rental car. Your 20 days has run out". They basically told me I was ** out of luck. My adjuster was unreachable, useless and unhelpful. The other agents I had to talk to because she was unavailable were nasty, rude and unhelpful. 3) The list is much longer, but I got tired of typing.

I am writing today with concern on how my claim is being handled. I feel like I have been discriminated against from the beginning since I was treated as a liar as well has given the run around. I have never been sent any documentation about the accident and I am now requesting all supporting documents to be mailed to me as soon as possible. With the preponderance of evidence I have provided my vehicle should have been repaired by the at fault party by now. I was not even offered a rental.

The accident occurred on April 16th, 2014 around 6 pm. It was a rainy day the entire day. I phoned in my claim from the scene of the accident on Orcas and 52nd Avenue in Seattle, providing all my information. While Steve ** was on the clock, delivering pizzas for Dominos, he ran a red STOP sign at high speed ramming into my Lincoln, hitting myself and my passenger Jermaine **. I was coming up Orcas on the hill and he was crossing on 52nd Avenue. I hit on my right and was slammed to my left, where I almost ran into a parked jeep.

Steve pulled his car over on Orcas and came to my car where he apologized and gave me a hug. He asked me not to call the police because he could not stay and assured me I had nothing to worry about because my vehicle would be taken care of. Because we live in the same neighborhood and he has delivered pizza to my home, I went on and trusted him. I took a picture of his insurance and the insurance card even has rain drops, like my Lincoln is wet from the rain. Steve was in a hurry to get back to his car. There were vehicles backing up and apologized one more time, gave me a hug and told me not to worry. He asked me why I was crying and I pointed to my car and he told me to look at his. I began to go to his car to take a picture but when he got in his car, he left and did not return.

I am an ** woman, mother of two and I work two jobs. Since this accident, I have cried randomly, have consistent pain in my neck, back and hip that stays at 8 to 10 and have to take pain and spasm medication. I was sent to Chiropractor recommended by my attorney and a physical therapy as well as massage referred by my primary doctor. My doctor does not feel I am ready for Chiropractor because my hip is having so such trouble.

It is my understanding all conversations are recorded and I would like the recordings reviewed and provided to myself and lawyer. When I made first contact with Family Insurance I let them know I seen damages on Steve front end. As I was in my neighborhood I seen Steve and it appeared his vehicle had been fixed. This drew great concern because I had been told for weeks he was unresponsive. I contacted his job at Domino's on Rainier Avenue in Seattle and was told he had been out for over a week claiming he was ill.

American Family Insurance Physical Damage Adjuster Scott ** came out on 4/21/2014 and printed my estimate at 2:14pm. Christine ** denied my claim because she claimed Steve stated nothing happened. I have had no follow up from him nor Christine ** after leaving several messages regarding my repairs. I recorded Steve face to face vocal and visual with his wife Kathy at their home admitting to the accident and stated American Family Insurance told him he did not have enough information about me. When in fact American Family Insurance had all the information they requested from me including asking me if I seen damages on Steve's vehicle.

I took pictures of Steve's vehicle after the fact at his home that proves he tampered with the evidence. His car is green and the front end is black. There are green marks on my white Lincoln. I took photos at the scene where the pieces of his vehicle was on the ground, even collecting a few pieces. Later, I was informed my current lawyer that they will not be helping me with making sure my vehicle is repaired and they will only work on my injury claim. Leaving me in the gray area to be mistreated by American Family because they are under the impression my lawyer is doing the correspondence for both car and injury. This opens a loophole that American Insurance have ran with making sure they do not follow through with the repairs.

I am a teacher and a caregiver. I have limited range of motion and cannot lift my clients or my preschool children. Simple housekeeping is now a challenge and my pain depends on how long I stand, sit and move. I have to pay friends to take me to and from work because I work a long distance from my home and working two jobs my schedule is set from one job to the next on some days. I phoned in today and spoke with a customer service rep who said she is surprised it has taken so long to fix my car. Christine ** answering machine states, "Do not leave a message. She will not be returning calls," and left no return date. Is this because she no longer works there?

Prior to this message, I took the recorded video to Steve agent Lam ** and spoke with Cynthia ** in Tukwila, WA at 206-439-6822 who viewed my recording. She also let me know it makes it hard when someone is lying. After she reviewed the video, she called Christine herself to let her know she seen the video and let her know I would be sending it to her as well. She was even willing to do it for me but we had troubles transferring it form my phone. She also responded to my email and gave me Christine's email for support and send video. I left the vocal recording on Christine answering machine so she could hear I was in fact telling the truth since April 16th, 2014 and to let her know I would be sending to her. She received the facts in more than one way and still did not contact me about the damages to my car to be repaired.

Over ten days ago, the video I have attached was downloaded to a disk and mailed to American Family for review. I have not heard from anyone, letting me know my repairs would begin immediately, since I have been given the run around for almost two months now. If you are supposed to provide excellent service, that is a lie and false advertising. I have been mistreated during this whole ordeal and no one has taken responsibility nor apologized for treating the way they have.

In conclusion, I am the victim of a dishonest customer and company. I provided photos, addition contacts as well as a visual and vocal recording of your insurer who ran into me and has committed fraud. I am disappointed with American Family for not be accountable for their mistake and making things right. I feel discriminated against and I will continue to fight for my rights and make sure the eyes and ears know what companies are doing to people that are trying to take care of their families, home and other responsibilities. Christine ** should be fired if she has not been already. It is not my lawyer's responsibility for my car repairs. My injuries are their responsibilities. So once again, I am reaching out for help and I would like American Family Insurance to take responsibility and repair my vehicle very soon.

AmFam has always been the worst insurance company to work with. Expect long delays in responses to getting claims handled. Just like any other insurance company, they don't want to pay out! But unlike others, they give you the most hassle to get what you deserve. Insurance is for claims but AmFam doesn't see it that way. They just want your money for false security. I have never had a claim with them that I didn't have to fight tooth and nail to get it resolved. You have to be vicious with their adjusters to get things approved and don't be afraid to tell them you want multiple adjuster or even an non-affiliated adjuster. Speak to their supervisors and lay into them. Don't let them blow you off if you don't like wasting your hard-earned money. Remember, by law, you can get up to 3 adjusters while filing a claim. My contractor stated that room is in horrible shape and you should get a whole new roof. So the adjuster comes out and they walk around my property. The adjuster says, "I will get back with you, I will discuss things with your contractor." 2 minutes later. Both at my door again, adjusters computer broke down and he said, "I will call your contractor then go over things with with you." Next thing I know is I am supposedly getting a check for 2500 and only the front part of my roof is getting done, then went on to say that it was agreed upon with my contractor. I call my contractor who tells me that he never spoke to him about the roof. He never called him.

I called the manager and asked for another adjuster to come out, not to mention they completely missed my detached garage. The manager pretty much gives me a silent treatment then goes on to say he is the second set of eyes. It was a so sad too bad, my word is it. So here I sit, with a small check to patch things up. THEY DON'T CARE! I have paid them for my home and car for over 10 years and this is the way I am treated. HORRIBLY! I don't know where to go from here....anyone have suggestions.

American Family is not my insurance company. It is the insurance company of the woman who rear ended me. Since the collision was the other person’s fault, I have been working with American Family in order to get my repairs done... and it has been a HORRIBLE experience. My "agent" is Debora **, who has been "unavailable", according to the recording I receive every single time I've tried to call her. The recording does not give you an opportunity to leave a message - you just have to keep calling until somehow you can miraculously get through to her which never happened, so I had to talk to other customer service reps who would just re-direct me back to Debora. I finally got an email address for Debora, and got a quick, rude response that did not address my questions.

American Family finally agreed to send me a check in the mail. I received an envelope from American Family today in the mail... with nothing in it. No payment. An empty envelope. I called them again, couldn’t get a hold of Debora again, and talked to a different rep who said she will send another check but it could be seven days from now. I am SO FRUSTRATED with this insurance company. I've never been a person who goes online and writes reviews of companies until now. I am just beyond angry with the complete lack of customer service and the fact that they sent me an EMPTY ENVELOPE!

I inherited Jeffery Mayhew American Family Insurance while branching off on my own path from my family. The customer service was polite, humorous, and generally a pleasure to deal with. I had them when I moved out on my own, got my own car, bought my own home and generally became a young adult. Through poor life choices and hard times, I have to admit that I got a speeding ticket or two, and my insurance fell to the wayside when it came down to a roof over my head or food on my table once or twice over 6-7 years. Yes, I've been irresponsible consumer while growing up on occasion.

And one day - I go to pay my bill, and two weeks later, my check comes right back on home. Why? Because they canceled my coverage, and never bothered to notify me. If I had gotten a heads up I would have made it an immediate priority. Oh well, ultimately this is my bad, I wasn't following my bills close enough. So I call in. Sure, they can get me signed up again, but my $145 car insurance would go up to $260 a month for six months. Damn, that blows, oh well, lesson learned right? Won't make that mistake again. Okay, sign me up, the next six months are going to blow chunks, but you reap what you sow.

Month two rolls around, I get T-boned. Man, glad I have insurance. Takes a while with some bumps in the road, but they're still pretty pleasant to deal with and it gets taken care of without too much screaming and crying. I call in to pay my bill each month, always early now, see? Lesson learned. And each time, the rep confirms, only 5 more months, 4 more months, 3 more months - so on - until the monthly goes back to my sweet $145. Even assuring me that the accident wouldn't impact my monthly bill. Finally, a cute little bell chimes on my phone to remind me, as they asked, to call in to get my insurance reduced.

BIG OL' FAT NOPE. Oh? What are you talking about? No, you're locked in at the $260.00 rate for the next three years. Oh you were consistently told otherwise? I'm SO sorry to hear that! Can you get a refund on the bill you just paid yesterday? Oh, wow, Sorry about this, but we just CAN'T swing that. You're dissatisfied? No, we don't have a complaint or dispute process, SORRY!

I am a 23-year-old female, I have been living on my own since 16, I'm a freaking adult, but this ** is still hard on my salary. I'm so hurt and feel utterly betrayed that they would so blatantly do the bait and switch after I loyally decided to stay with the company for a ridiculous amount of money for half a freaking year. And there's nothing I can do about it but write this silly review and move on. In summary: Yeah, I'm ticked and more cynical for my experience. But they do have some polite reps, even if they're not being honest. It's just utterly disappointing that they refused to work with me despite my loyalty. Goodbye Amfam, you lost a lifer.

I tried to be the best agent I could and my clients were very appreciative. I was available to them 24 hours a day 7 days a week if need be. The company has drastically changed in the last 5 years. They went from a service and value driven company to a bottom line, numbers crunching corporate machine. They push as much responsibility on the agents as possible, dictate who they can hire to work in their agencies and threaten agents constantly, but yet do not provide any employee benefits for their agents.

I used to have confidence that if there was a problem I could pick up the phone and speak to a reasonable person on the phone and get a problem straightened out for the client. That changed too. Just look at their track record with local agents in your area. How often do the names on the building change? With the exception of a few senior agents, most of them change yearly. They no longer value good people as agents or clients. Their rates are insanely high for a policy that is very comparable to other main carriers. Their model for rating credit is unfair as well. Fat cats get bonuses while underpaid agents get "downsized" in order to bring younger inexperienced agents in. Run, don't walk away from this company.

The teen could not or would not provide me with the insurance information. She called her mom and within minutes her mom came and gave me the insurance information I needed. I filed a claim with American Family Insurance that night. Within a week an agent called to take my recorded statement. I had an estimate done on my vehicle the next day. American Family did not send a claims adjuster to look at my vehicle.

Our so called Agent never, ever called us to tell us but claims there was a computer generated letter to explain it. Well we have always paid online and never noticed that the insurance was just removed from one of our vehicles because our policy always just said vehicles and home. We also unexpectedly paid our homeowners insurance twice in error and that did not matter to them. They have no care in the world for their loyal customers literally and just care about the money they are making.

Within weeks of this happening they sent us a new policy and it went from $800 to $1800 annually. Seriously, and sadly we have changed insurance and now pay a premium of $1795 for all vehicles and home! Clearly Amfam was inflating their prices and never showed us any care and our Agent did not do his job! They are just paper pushers and they are the epitome of large business with no care in the world about the customer just a money making machine. No loyalty or obligation whatsoever. The winds were up to 150 MPH. I filed a claim with American Family Insurance and they refuse to pay for my roof replacement even though the high winds have damaged multiple locations. I purchased the matching rider several years ago that they sell but apparently there is fine print that says they don't have to pay even though the new shingles don't match up quite right. The bottom line, the estimate to repair my home and return it to the same condition as prior to the storm is $19,125.35. American Family Insurance (hiding behind the fine print) will only pay $5209.66.

I have exhausted the appeal process they have which is bogus anyway. The reason I say that is because the woman let it slip (when I called because it had been weeks since I heard from them) that I was just 1 of over 600 homeowners who were unhappy with their settlements. I have had American Family Insurance for decades and had believed I had top-of-the-line coverage. Sadly they are not what they claim to be. Currently we insure 3 homes, 7 vehicles, a boat, and also have our business insurance with them. My advice is, if you are a current American Family customer, change companies. The car that hit me had scratched three panels paint off of my car, dented one panel, and cracked their bumper on my tire as well. The claim adjuster came out 30 MINUTES LATER THAN THE APPOINTMENT TIME and approved a refurbished tire on my car along with the paint but refused to cover an alignment for $50. I called my car dealer and they said the only way to check if an alignment is off is to actually do an alignment. So I called my agent and he is sending the claim adjuster back out to "drive" my car to check the alignment, even though that is not possible to check it by and if it was, he should have did it the first time he came out. After not returning my phone calls and I had to recall him. I told my agent to MAKE SURE HE IS ON TIME THIS TIME. I don't need hours of my time wasted.

I have a brand new car, there is no reason that I should be getting a refurbished tire to save them a few dollars. I pay my full premiums, not just a percent. And secondly, an alignment should not even be questioned when there is obvious tire damage. It should be an automatic. They are losing a 3 year customer after this claim is finished.

On May 9, 2013 our 2000 Honda Cr-v was stolen. We reported and made a claim the same day the theft occurred. We found out that the car had been recovered and had been towed to the local impound. We then notified our insurance agent that we had received a letter from the impound stating that our vehicle had been found. Afterwards, our insurance agent contacted the American Family Ins. adjuster, and the adjuster had stated that they would like to get someone out there to assess the damages.

Adjuster was notified 5/14/13 and he had told both me and my insurance agent that there won't be someone out until 5/16/13 to assess the damages. So my agent had asked whether I, the owner, should go take the car out of the impound because of the nightly storage fee, but the adjuster stated that we should wait until they get out there to assess the damages. Then my agent asked whether I, the owner, would have to pay any expenses and the adjuster said "all the expenses and charges should be covered under my policy".

It is Thursday, 5/16/13, and both party, adjuster and I, we are at the impound looking at the car and everything seems okay, no damages to the car but missing personal properties and the car had been ruffled a mess. Now the frustrating part, in order to take my vehicle out, I was then told that only the tow fee and tax fee would be covered and I would have to pay the $325 storage fee or else I won't be allowed to take my vehicle. Now furious and frustrated, I asked the adjuster why they aren't covering the storage fee when they had clearly stated from the conversation on 5/14/13 that all expenses and fee would be covered under my policy. He just said, "No, I can't cover the storage fee but only the tow and tax fee."

I then called my agent and told her of the situation and she promptly told me she would call me back. I didn't hear from her until the next day. So we paid the fee to get the vehicle out because we didn't want to be paying another night if we had left it in there. So, Friday 5/17/13, my agent calls me to tell me the same thing the adjuster said to me the day before. Now even more frustrated, I say to her that when we were on the phone on 5/14/13, the adjuster assured both of us that all expense will be paid. She just simply said it was his fault. But wait, is the adjuster going to compensate me for those three nights? Nope.

My agent just told me that I will now have to make a claims against American Family Ins. if I wanted any reimbursement/compensation. So now there is a claims underway all because an adjuster failed to do his part when he has handled many cases such as this and now doesn't want to admit to being wrong. This experience with American Family Ins. adjuster have made the company, altogether, to be seen as a business that is not there to help their people but to take their money and provide as little of support as possible when needed. BAD BAD BAD services from these people. Now my agent is going to lose a client all because of the decision of their adjuster and how he handled his wrongdoing.

Car got clipped out in front of the apartment. I got the insurance info which was American Family, and called their agent to set up a time to get it fixed. The CSR told me that if the car needed immediate repairs that it would come out of my insurance. Why?! Your insurer hit my car, this is your problem! Then I took the car to the body shop, just to get a call back from an adjuster stating that they are going to pay for the whole bumper and taillight because there was damage to it prior to the accident. So in other words, they lost a potential customer over $150 which is now coming out of my pocket because of their insurer's negligence. I hope Geico and Progressive put you guys out of business. American Family only looks at the bottom line and ways to cut their losses.

My first renewal they said they had to raise my rate $100 per month due to changes in my record in which there were none. I was okay not saving anything anymore but will stick with them. Then I wanted to add a new car to my policy and they said it will only be $110 per month. Are you freaking kidding? You have raised my insurance $2,500 per year and expect that to be okay? Really! They are just a rip off!

American Family Insurance - insurance gouging. On Saturday, December 8, 2012, I had to take my 2008 Honda Accord to the dealership to get my oil changed. My oldest son was off work and was bored, and asked if they (his girlfriend and newborn son) could come to get out of the house. I said sure. We arrived at Desert Honda and I went around the back to the service area. As I pulled up to the booth where the mechanics are, they talk to you there to find out what's going on and you sign some paperwork. While I was talking to the mechanic, my son and his family went inside to the waiting area. I finished up outside and then went into the waiting area also but they were nowhere in sight, so I walked over to the showroom and saw him talking with a salesman. (Later, we found out his name is Marlo **.) I walked over there and Marlo greeted me and asked if I was looking for a vehicle. I said, "No but if you got a Dodge Challenger, then we can talk." They didn't but I had to ask.

Marlo continued talking to my son about the end of year sales that was going on. My son told him he doesn't have any credit but he's had his job for over a year. Marlo asked me how my credit was and I told him good. The last two vehicles I've had I got here. (I started out with a 3-year lease to build up my credit. I gave back the lease after the 3 years and got the 2008 Accord and it will be mine after all the payments were done.) So we filled out the paperwork with me as co-signer and then we met the finance manager, Carlos **, who was very friendly and helpful (and he just had his first child also so he and my son had something in common). Between Marlo and Carlos, the two of them made a good team. We were approved for the loan so my son was getting a 2012 Honda Civic. It's going to be a lease and his payments will be $283 a month for 36 months so he can establish his own credit. Marlo told him to bring it back in a few days when he picks up his green slip (to get it registered) and they will tint the windows for him for free.

On December 12, 2012, my son and I went to my insurance agent, Ruben **, with American Family Insurance on Las Vegas Blvd to put him on my policy. Now, I understand that it's going to cost more for him because of his lack of experience, his age, our zip code and any other excuse they come up with. My agent says that it won't go up that much, but the first bill will be higher. My monthly bill has been $166 for the last 4 years due on the 16th every month also (give or take $15-$20 because it does fluctuate, but never goes over $20). So he does his calculating and comes up with a total of $214.68 payable today so my son went and got a money order and paid it.

On Friday, 12-28-12, I got out of work at 7am and jumped on the highway (I-15). Right before the Lake Mead exit, I could see some objects in the road over to the left side (where the fast lane is) off the road. It was brownish red in color and about the size of a small bowling ball. Then all of a sudden, there was one right in front of me. There was nothing I could do to avoid hitting it without hitting another car, so I ended up hitting it. I didn't realize it was solid concrete until I hit it and I felt it go under the car where my right foot would be and it imprinted itself under my gas pedal. It also pushed the whole front console upwards about 2 inches. It continued to move all the way down the length of my car. It felt like it was moving in slow motion and made the worst tearing and ripping noise.

I finally felt it shoot across the rest of the car and then shot out by the rear tire of the driver's side blowing out my tire. When the tire blew, I knew I had to get off the highway, so the next exit was Lake Mead. So I got off and very slowly drove to an area that I knew and called my son and told him where I was. Then I called my insurance company and left a message (it was only 7:30am), then I called Nevada Highway Patrol to let them know what happened and that someone needs to get that debris off the highway because someone is going to get killed. My insurance agent, Ruben **, called me back and gave me the number to the claims office so I could get it started. And then after I get home, I can call back and finish it.

The American Family Insurance (AFI) claims adjuster, Lori **, had a tow truck (Las Vegas Towing) on the way for me. The police arrived and the officer said she didn't see anything on the highway. I filled out a police report and then the tow truck arrived. I asked him to tow it to my house and was informed by the police officer (and later on by my agent) that it couldn't be towed to my house. So I just chose the closest place to my house which was Quality Towing on East Craig Road. After getting home, it was close to 11am. I finished filing the claim and waited for someone to call and let me know what to do next. On Saturday, 12-29-12, I'm guessing my insurance company is not open on the weekends.

On Sunday, 12-30-12, Lori ** got in touch with Chris at AFI and he set up a rental car for me from Enterprise Rent A Car. I can use up to $40 a day limit up to a total of $960. I figured it out to be about 25 to 30 days. I went and picked up the rental car today mainly because I had to go back to work tonight. I got in there and they told me it will be a $50 deposit. I had no money so I gave them my debt card and they took it. (Come to find out, one of my bills didn't cash their check right away and when they got around to it, I ended up bouncing and it cost me $70.)

On Monday, 12-31-12, AFI insurance adjuster, Steve **, called and left me a message around 1pm. I didn't get back to him until Wednesday because of the holiday and also, I work graveyard shift. On Wednesday, 1-2-13, I called Steve ** and he said he looked at the car and evaluated it. First of all, I think he should have gotten together with me and this should have been done when I was present. After all, I am the one paying for this vehicle every month. He told me my deductible was $500 and the tire that was blown was also worn so it wasn't covered, and would be an extra $20 or more. (He must be an amazing adjuster if he could tell that my blown tire was worn!) He proceeded to tell me that he gave Jim, the owner at Quality Towing, a check with my name on it. I then told him that I'm not having my car fixed there. It was only brought there because I didn't have a choice and I talked with Ruben and I'm going to have it fixed with an affiliate of AFI which is Caliber Collision.

He immediately got an attitude with me and told me to call the tow yard and talk to them, and said that since he didn't hear from me, it was my fault. I told him why he didn't hear from me, and that I called him as soon as I could today. Steve muttered something and hung up. I called Jim at Quality Towing and he said that the repairs were going to be $1,518.68 and that he already ordered the parts for it. I asked him why he would do that. I hadn't authorized him to look/fix it. He said as soon as Steve ** gave him the check that counted as consent. I guess Steve ** is paying my car payments now. This guy has got some big ** balls! I called Steve ** back and told him what Jim said and he was angry. I also told him that Ruben had told me that they (Steve) would take it to Caliber Collision (CC) because that's where I chose to have it repaired. He said he would go over, get my car, and bring it to Caliber Collision, and very rudely hung up on me again. I called Jim back and told him we were moving my car somewhere else and he said, "I already started working on it. It will take two hours to put it back together and it will be $300 then you can pick it up," and he hung up.

On Thursday, 1-3-13, I didn't hear from anyone all day. I received my monthly insurance bill for January, $166.09. My son is not on it yet. On Friday, 1-4-13, I went to AFI to talk to Ruben about Steve ** and his people skills, and what happened, and also to follow up and make sure everything was taken care of since Steve was clearly ticked off. Rueben wasn't in, so I talked to Maria ** and told her the whole story. She called an 800 number and whoever she talked to told her that my car was at Caliber Collision. I thanked her and then left. I was relieved that everything was going smoothly after all the confusion. On Wednesday, 1-9-13, I received a call from Jim at Quality Towing. He said he had been out sick but when he returned back to work, my car was still on his property. I called Ruben immediately to find out what the heck was going on. He said he would find out and get back to me. When he called back, he said he talked to Lori at the claims department and gave her all the information, and said that it would be moved first thing in the morning (it was 5pm and Quality Towing closes at 5:30pm).

On Thursday, 1-10-13, my car was moved to Caliber Collision today. They also called me to make an appointment to do a walk through with them (for damage already on the car). They also needed to get my information. I got there at 3pm and the mechanic and I went to my car. He asked if the blown tire was all the damage that had happened. I said no, the whole under carriage sounded like it was torn apart. He said he'd put it on a lift, take a look, and call me with an estimate. On Sunday, 1-13-13, I haven't heard anything from anyone. I paid my insurance bill for January, $166.09. Also, I had to make another car payment on the 2008 Honda Accord for $365.30 due on January 16th. This is one payment I really shouldn't have had to pay. I'm not driving this car but I'm paying the insurance. I should have canceled the insurance but I didn't know it was going to be totaled or take this long just for an answer. I understand I had to make the payment, but I better not have to make another one!

On Monday, 1-14-13, I called Caliber Collision today. The mechanic was out to lunch. When he called me back, the first thing he said to me was, "What the hell did you hit?" So I told him the story. He then told me that the floorboard would have to be replaced and by Nevada State Law, they cannot do that and that he had to total my car. He was finishing up the paperwork and I should be hearing from my insurance company in the next couple of days. Side note: If my car is totaled and it's against Nevada State Law to fix, I wonder how Jim at Quality Towing and Steve ** were going to fix it? On Friday, 1-18-13, once again I haven't heard from anyone. I called AFI and talked to Maria. I told her that I talked to C/C on Monday and that the mechanic said they were totaling my car. She said she had to make a few calls and would call me back.

At about 3:30pm, Steve ** left me a message to call him back. I was driving and running my errands so I couldn't get back to him right away. At 5:30pm, Maria called me back and told me to call Steve back and get back with her by 6pm, or we would have to wait until Monday. I didn't make the 6pm deadline, so needless to say, nothing was accomplished yet again. On Saturday, 1-19-13, I returned Steve **'s call and his voicemail said he would be out of the office until January 28th. Well of course he is. Through this whole ordeal whenever his name is mentioned, everything is delayed at least a week. This so-called insurance adjuster hasn't done his job and absolutely nothing to help/work with me. I have done more than he has to keep tabs on things, and tracking my car down after his lies. I'm not impressed with how AFI is handling this whole situation.

    1. It's taking forever for anything and everything. 2. Steve ** really sucks at his job. 3. Nobody is communicating with anyone else. All the claims people should be passing a file around with updated information about what they did or what was going on now but every time I talk to a new person, I got to tell them everything all over again. 4. The only thing I did like was Ruben always called me right back, after hours or on the weekend if I called within an hour, he called me. I called Ruben to update him on the situation and to request another insurance adjuster. I don't want to have anything more to do with Steve **! He returned my call and said he would take care of everything on Monday morning.

On Monday, 1-21-13, I called Ruben to find out if everything was straightened out, and it was. He did tell me that I had to go over to C/C and sign some papers to release my car to AFI and to get my plates and any personnel belongings out of the car. I did and I am now waiting again for someone to call. On Wednesday, 1-23-13, I received a phone call from the main office of AFI. (I cannot remember the name of who I talked to.) He was an insurance adjuster. He spoke broken English and was very hard to understand. I think he said that they were going to pay $14,119.00 to American Honda Finance Corp. for the loan (I didn't have any of my paperwork in front of me) and that they were going to send me some paperwork, sign it and return it ASAP and this will be all done.

When I checked my loan papers, my pay off amount was $16,327.90. What the hell? So instead of worrying where I was going to get the $500 deductible, I need to come up with $2,208.90! This just gets better and better every day! Ruben called to let me know I had to return the rental car tomorrow (1-24-13). Everything has been moving along a lot faster since Monday morning. Now, everyone is rushing. I asked Ruben if all this would be done before the 16th so I don't have to make another car payment and he said that it should be. While looking through my papers to get my payoff amount, I also found my policy and it stated my 2008 Accord was covered (the bank owned it) by comprehensive/collision with a deductible. So why aren't they going to pay the whole thing?

On Thursday, 1-24-13, I returned the car to Enterprise, and got my $50 deposit back. So now, I have no car, no rental car, no money (my last cent had to go in the tank of the rental car) and I have to go to work tonight. I called my son to tell him to get a hold of Marlo (he gave him his business card) and have him call me ASAP please. Marlo called me back right away. I told him what's going on and my situation. My insurance company and I have no cash at all. He said he could help me out but it was his day off. He asked me what time I wanted to meet him at Desert Honda. I had my son take me over there after he got out of work and I met with Marlo and finance manager, Carlos **, again. Carlos had me get the exact payoff amount from AFI so they faxed it over and Carlos worked the $2,208.90 that I still owed on the 2008 Accord into my new car loan payment. (I was stressing that one because they wanted it within 90 days.) They were the best. They didn't have to go way above and way beyond the normal car salesman/finance manager but they both did and I can't thank them enough.

When I left Desert Honda, I had a 2011 Honda CRV. So instead of my insurance company doing what I pay money for every month for the last 5 years (with AFI), the car dealership and these great employees saved my butt and my credit standings that I've been establishing for the past 6 years. On Friday, 1-25-13, I received my AFI bill for February, $577.61! I paid it. Are you kidding me? These are Honda's, not Hummer's! On Monday, 2-4-13, the paperwork (power of attorney) that AFI said they were sending out ASAP on 1-23-13 just arrived. It states that confirming my conversation with Steve **, this paperwork is all fake. I haven't talked to Steve ** since January 2, 2013, and on January 19, I requested a different adjuster because Steve ** sucked. So I never signed/returned this paperwork to them.

On Monday, 2-25-13, I received my AFI bill for March, $321.66! I paid it. On Monday, 3-25-13, I received my AFI bill for April, $396.92! I'm not paying them any more money! It went up $70 in one month and nothing happened different! That's it. I'm done! Time to move on. I have other bills. This is crazy. My insurance is the same as my car payment and my rent! Who can afford these rates? And the service that I received isn't worth this much money. On Tuesday, 4-16-12, I went to another insurance company and I'm insured with them now. I still would like to know why they didn't pay my vehicle off when I had comprehensive/collision on my policy.

He then allowed a person who has full coverage with American Family Insurance to drive the car two blocks and back. In doing so, he ended up putting the car into a ditch/pole. They told my husband they are denying our claim stating that because we have our own insurance, we have to have our insurance pay for it. That us giving our friend approval to drive the car, when he allowed someone else to drive it, that was an extension of us giving permission. What?

I called and asked for the law or copy of what governs this, and their claims adjuster told me that he could not provide me with anything and that's just the way it is. He then proceeded to laugh at me! I kid you not! He started laughing and even continued laughing when I expressed how upset he was making me by laughing and asked him what was so funny. He had no response. If you look on their Facebook page, not only do they treat folks like me this way, they treat their own customers like this! Horrible service. American Family waited four months before they sent us a check for my husband’s lost wages. We suffered through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. We had PIP insurance along with our auto insurance. We had been with them for years, so I filed a complaint with our state insurance dept. That was when they sent us the check and I believe that was the only reason they did.

A month later, they are demanding we do an independent medical examination. I have no problem with this, but our attorney tells us that the medical provider will probably side with the insurance company. My husband is injured, has broken bones and they don't want to pay his medical bills? What will happen if they no longer want to pay them? Will the provider for our family be injured forever because his own insurance refuses to pay his medical bills? Anyone wanting to get auto insurance with them should do so with extreme caution and should first read our experience with them. They are not the company you want if you are in an accident. We are suffering because they don't care about our well being, and this is our own insurance company.

Not only did your representative call and attempt to bully my brother into admitting the accident was somehow his fault because he happens to be a young man, American Family offered significantly less (25% less) than what his vehicle was worth as settlement. Also, the suspension is not right as my car is almost sitting on the driver side back tire, as well as the leather interior is cut up. It is now Feb. 19. On 2/13, I had to go and meet with an American Family Investigator. She accused me of having something to do with my car being stolen and/or damaged. This has gone on for over two months. The suspect is in jail on different charges and pending charges from my car theft. The insurance co. told my lender today that they are not going to total my car and it would be another 30 days before they come to a resolution. I have to pay for insurance every month or I would get ticketed by law enforcement. But the insurance co. does not have to pay for claims that are fair claims. They can accuse me? After the plumbers inserted the camera, they have discovered that there is water underneath the slab and the pipe collapse in two different places. According our homeowner's insurance policy, this should be covered under insurance. The situation's pretty devastating, since the floor is sinking the space between the floor and the floor moldings about 2, crack in the powder room walls, in the middle of the room the floor is sinking, and while walking throughout the floor, you can feel the difference in the height of the floor.

We were told by the plumber company that it is not a safe situation to be in the house in this condition. The adjuster completed the report and provided this report to his Property Unit manager. We were waiting on the verdict for a week, keeping on following on with the adjuster. It felt as he was washing his hands off the problem covering by the manager is not getting back to him. Finally, their decision was not to pay the claim. Trying to figure out and get to the point why the payment on the claim was rejected, I called a few times the 800#, trying to speak with the Property Unit Manager. He never picked up the phone. My husband called, and our agent called. No one could get hold of him as well. After the adjuster provided me the Property manager's cell phone number, I finally reached out to him. However, he was completely non-sensible and careless to the entire situation while I am trying to describe that I have two small children in the house that is no longer safe to live in. All of you who are as unhappy with the way American Family treat their loyal customers, please contact your State Department of Insurance or local news channels.

I signed up with American Family about six months ago in March. I got a call from a Libby ** of Kennesaw, Ga branch. She offered me a great rate and I accepted. Fast forward to my last month of coverage (September). I was ticketed and my car was impounded for no insurance. I showed the officers my insurance cards but they were saying that their system showed no insurance on my vehicle. I called the 1-800 number of American Family and they couldn't locate my policy either. My insurance cards had a "to be assigned" as policy. When I first signed up with them, I transferred my policy over from a previous vehicle. I gave her my credit card information because I needed to make a payment at the time and she sent all my information over the dealership where I was getting the new car.

I called back and was told that I never had coverage and that the initial payment didn't go through (mind you, she could have told me this on the phone before I left the dealership with an insurance, supposedly). I would be stuck to have to pay towing and fine amount for no insurance. I'm pursuing legal action as we speak but never again will I do business with this company.

There was a witness and the driver was issued several tickets for causing the accident; however, American Family Insurance stated that my daughter was 40% at fault because she did not look both ways before going through her green light which we all know is BS. Dealing with American Family Insurance is a joke. Their claims personnel are very rude and dealing in bad faith which is common with this co. There are over 50 complaints online. Maybe someone should look into this company since their only concern is to rip people off. AFI has no integrity.

Total lack of interest in taking responsibility of claim - My daughter was hit by a woman running a red light. My daughter saw the woman coming and realized she was not going to stop. She swerved to try to avoid an accident, but her car was totaled. The lady also hit my neighbor who was stopped at the red light. There were 2 witnesses to the accident. They both gave an eye witness account to what happened. The woman was coming 30-35 miles an hour, never putting on the brakes. American Family, in 2 weeks, never contacted the witnesses. They didn't offer a loaner car and said my daughter was 10% to blame. They also told my neighbor, whose car was hit, that they would have to find out who was liable.

American Family Insurance is the company that the lady who caused the accident. Dealing with them has been a nightmare. The agent didn't even contact the witnesses. His only verbiage is 90/10. So Progressive gets the $500 deductible, American Family will only pay 90%. Win-win for both companies. Why would they even want to investigate and try to do the right thing? And we don't need regulations in this country? Why have full coverage, a good driving record, never be late with an insurance payment when this is what you're dealing with?

Needless to say, the impact of the accident was almost $14K of damage to repair my vehicle which is still not repaired or total for that matter. I had two insurances at the time, Progressive/Utrim and also American Family. I’m still battling over a year now. I hired a lawyer and my car is falling apart by the day. It seems like we pay insurance to protect the other drivers. By the way, the other driver got a ticket for driving without insurance and without a valid license! I honestly think these insurance companies just want the ones who pay their fees to go away and not to cause problems, that would be not to claim when we need to. Whatever happens to those of us who pay insurance to have coverage and still don't receive coverage? Wow! I’m still fighting, I will let you all know.

The entire accident was recorded on a video camera mounted on the truck ahead of me. I sustained a cracked sternum, a sprained left hand, a battered left knee and a pinched nerve in my left hip. The other driver was cited and his insurance company paid me the full amount of his coverage: $25,000. My policy with the American Family Insurance company has $250,000. Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage, I applied to it for $60,000 to cover my medical expenses. American Family Insurance company denied my claim on the grounds that I had received money from the other driver's company. Finally, after two years, the American Family Insurance company offered me $5,000.

Early next month, my lawyer and I got to mediation. If that fails, we will go to court. Somewhere in those two sessions, I expect a gag order to be put on all information pertaining to this case. So I am writing this now. Regardless of the outcome, I want prospective customers to know American Family Insurance company does not stand behind its product. If I had known then what I know now, I would never have contracted to have them be my insurer. Buyer beware.

My car was rear-ended when I was at a read light by an uninsured motorist, on 01/10/12, but at the time, when I was unaware, there was no insurance when I received the driver's information. I then placed a claim with AFA claims the following day. I called and spoke with Patricia, who is very rude, and kept advising me for the next week that they are waiting on my paperwork, so no adjuster has been assigned, but believe me, they have my paperwork to receive my monthly payments. When I asked to speak with a live person, all you get is voicemail, and no one ever calls you back. After a week, I was assigned an adjuster named Eric. I left several messages, and it took him several days to call me. When he did call me, he was rude, and tried to deny my claim.

When I told him I have uninsured motorist coverage, he said, "oh, I didn't know you had that coverage. I will have to look into it and call you back". He also advised me that uninsured motorist coverage is not required by the state of CA, which it is, when you car is financed. So, at that time, I had an impression that he was trying to deny claims before looking into them and my coverage, and also he doesn't know what he is talking about. After this conversation, I left several messages over the next 5 days, with no callback. I then called and asked to speak with a live manager, and spoke with Patricia, who said that other adjusters are busy with their own claims. I told her I don't want an adjuster, and I want the claims manager.

She transferred me to claims manager Doug, who of course, I left 3 messages to, with no return call. I then called and asked to speak with Doug's manager, which I found out is Tim. I left a message, and of course, no callback. A week ago, Eric called and advised me that the lady who rear ended my car has insurance, and he placed a claim with her insurance company. The next day, I received a call from that insurance company, advising that the lady doesn't have insurance. This is something you would think my adjuster would have done, and looked into in the first place. She advised me she left a message for my adjuster, Eric, advising this.

I also left Eric 4 messages in the last week, and up until today, 01/31/12, I have never received a callback from them, and my brand new car has been sitting at an auto body shop since 01/11/12, with a bid that has been available since 01/12/12. The woman who rear ended my car, and the auto body shop hasn't been contacted by this company. I am a single mom. My job is 35 miles each way, and this is my only car. I am looking into the Fair Claims Settlement Act, because I do not believe they are in compliance. I have also placed a claim with the California Department Of Insurance against this company, as well as a complaint with the BBB. Furthermore, I will be looking for a lawyer, for legal assistance. This company is ripping off consumers, and clearly feel they can treat their paying customers however they like.

When I was first contacted by the appraiser/claim representative, he told me that they would leave an unpaid balance of almost $5,000.00! I mentioned to him that I have GAP and that should cover that balance, asking for confirmation. His reply was that GAP was "really only for leased vehicles, not for owned vehicles." Knowing this to be false, I didn't argue with him, thinking 'surely, they'll take care of this.'

Much to my surprise, they denied the GAP payment ultimately saying that there was unrelated prior damage that diminished the value of the vehicle. While I concur with this, my issue with AmFam is that they were aware of this but they continued to collect the GAP portion of my premium. Therefore, I believed I had GAP.

The other vehicle never stopped. From the shock, I refused the ambulance. I called in the claim. The first 20 days they were investigating, and then I got a call that I needed to transfer the title to my name before they could proceed, the title transfer was $410.

So then I drive them the title to their office. A week after I get a call from them, stating that it would cost $11,000 to fix the car back to normal. They offered me to settle for $3,256 minus $500 deductible leaving me at roughly $2,700. When I called Linda back and told her I am not agreeing with their settlement and I want to have my vehicle back in pre-accident condition, Linda became rude and disrespectful to me. I then asked to speak to her boss, she told me to hold and 3 seconds later she got back on the phone and said he was not available at the moment (I work customer service and I know how that works), I then asked her for his extension, name and voicemail.

I have been a loyal customer of American Family Insurance since, I believe, 1995. I absolutely always pay on time and for the last 10 years (because I pay everything automatically online) I have paid a little over what is due each month; I round-up and then they send those little balancing checks for a few dollars every year to pay back the rounding. Just over two years ago, when I bought a new vehicle, I shopped and found other insurance companies that were less expensive. But, after talking with my agent, Patricia ***, I decided to stay with American Family. Patricia's and her employees incredible customer service were worth paying the extra money. All that changed.

About two years ago, my policy was moved, and Patricia **** became my agent. My previous agent had retired. I received a letter from Ms. **** letting me know that she would be taking my policy. I never met the woman, never received a call from her, but okay, things change. Shortly after, I needed my windshield replaced and through a series of calls, I was given the name of the glass repair place to call. The person on the other end of the line was curt both times we spoke. I was given little direction and even less courtesy, just the phone number. I thought about changing companies then, but honestly, I didn't want to go through the perceived hassle and I chose not to let one bad experience drive me away.

Fast forward 18 months to December 21, 2010. While on vacation, I receive a voicemail from one of Ms. ****'s employees saying that I needed to get my payment in. I called back the same day and told the man that it was impossible that my payment was late. And with him on the phone, I pulled my bank account up on the computer. It showed that my payment had in fact gone out on time. The man, Louis, told me that they had only received my regular amount and that my payments had gone up by $16.15 because I no longer got a specific discount. So, I asked him when they had sent a letter notifying me of that. He told me no letter had been sent. I asked why. He fumbled over his words and I got the idea that they didn't feel they had to notify me. Okay. Right then, with him on the line I entered the $16.15 payment in the computer to go out the next day. Let bygones be bygones. Done.

Today, I receive a call from Louis telling me that if I don't do a payment by phone, a Letter of Cancellation will be mailed to me. What? I calmed myself and with Louis still on the phone, I pulled up my account online again. It showed that the check did in fact get mailed from my bank on December 22nd. Today, is December 27th. For any normal month, the check should have arrived by now. I get that. But, last weekend was Christmas. I told Louis, albeit too loudly I'm sure, that I would not make a phone payment, that most likely the check would arrive today and that if it didn't to go ahead and cancel my policy send the letter.

After 15 years of on time payments, they're threatening to cancel my policy for $16.15?! Really? Granted, he has no reason to believe that I actually sent the payment last week. Well, he has no reason other than the fact that I've been a golden customer for 15 years. Oh, and it's only 16 bucks! Really? In what world is this acceptable customer service? I was amicable when they so poorly notified of my agent change. I kept an open mind when I received poor service for the replacement of my windshield. Though frustrated, I calmly and immediately got online and made the sixteen-dollar-and-fifteen-cent payment change they never notified me about. I even apologized to Louis for raising my voice when I heard him threaten to cancel my policy.

Now, I'm done. Once I send this letter, I'm changing my insurance carrier. And, I find it interesting how the poor service of one agent can affect a company. Granted, mine is just a drop in American Family's revenue bucket. But, I wonder how many more like me there are. Who else has Patricia ***'s agency chased away?

I have been a customer of American Family Insurance for 13 years with no brakes. I had nothing but good things to say about this company until recently. My stepfather shared an office space with one of their agents, Dave **, in Menasha, Wisconsin and I had been with him for 11 years even after I had moved to Madison. I finally had to change agents as it was becoming inconvenient, and I needed an agent closer to home. At the time I had switched to an agent in Madison, Matt **, whom did a great job.

I then moved and switched to the agency at 2101 N. Sherman Avenue. At the time I switched the agent that I had at that office retired after being there for about a year and I was given a new agent, Brian **. I had never even had to call and complain about anything until I was given this agent. I know that it was my right to switch, but I had never had any issues so I gave him a chance. About a year after having him, I had an accident with my vehicle and had to file a claim. This was my first claim in 11 years. I then had my car vandalized about a year later and had to file a comprehensive claim. Being only about 26 at this time, I was still paying a high premium due to my age.

I have a clean driving record and have not had any tickets since 2000. After paying an average of $100 a month, I had an accident surcharge added to my account. I dealt with it for a while but my bill just kept going up and up. Finally, it had reached $138 a month and I just couldn't take it anymore. I placed a call to Mr. ** about my bill to see if anything could be done. After taking about a week to look at it, he said that he had looked and got it lowered by what he claimed was $10 dollars a month. Well, this was his first lie as it was only $10 for one month. So I let that go and continued to pay what I was billed. Finally, my wife said that this was getting ridiculous and that I had to see about getting this bill lowered.

So I called and asked what was going on, that I had been with them for 13 years and this point and they had made over $11,000 out of me even after paying for the 2 accidents and that this was not right that I was paying them more with this company than people with DUIs that I know. Well, Mr. ** again wouldn't do anything. So I then had to go to his General Manager whom I explained what was going on and he never returned my calls. I was so mad I then went to his boss. At this point, I received a call from Mr. ** stating that they had reviewed it and had decided to remove the accident surcharge which would lower my bill to $106.36 a month. It was still high, but I could deal with it.

He explained that once the billing cycle was started that they would not issue new bills, but that I would get a letter that would explain what the new total was and that I would just have to pay the $106.36 per month. I received this letter in May of this year and then paid that amount when it was time to pay my bill even though the automated system said I had to pay $138.36. I never received any notice that this was not the amount I had to pay and continued with the company.

The next month, I was prepared to pay the $106.36 and the automated system state that I had to pay $66.36 so I had assumed that they had adjusted the bill based on what I had paid so I paid that amount. Well, that’s when the trouble really started. I received my billing statement which stated that I owed $136.36 then I looked online and it said the monthly balance was the same, but that the total for the 6 months was different from the statement. I then called in the payment and it was asking for the original total of $138.36.

I then figured it was like Brian had told me and I was just to pay the $106.36, which I did. I then got an email for their corporate offices because I paid the bill 2 days late due to it being a weekend. The email said that I was late and I owed $144.93 to cover the payment. I disregarded the email as I noticed that the payment just hadn’t gone through yet. After the payment was received on the 15th, I hadn't heard anything until last week Friday when I received a notice that I owed $18.95 for the balance on my renter’s insurance. Well, this put up some flags because that was supposed to be covered in my total of $106.36.

I called today to see what was going on and I was told that my payment was late and that my car insurance was canceled. I never got any kind of notice as to this and couldn't believe that they would do that being a 13-year customer and that they sent me a notice about the renter’s insurance but not the car insurance. I was informed about this by Brian’s secretary who said he was out of the office. I said that he needed to call me right away and that he would need to call me as soon as he got back. When I talked to Brian he acted as though he never changed anything and that I owed the $136.36. I explained that this was a problem because of all the billing differences.

He claimed he couldn't do anything and that I would have to wait for him to call the payment offices and he would get back to me. I knew that he was a liar so I went and got quotes from other insurance companies which GEICO was only asking for $66.95 per month. I waited for Brian to call back to see what he could do. He said that I would have to pay a fee to have the insurance reinstated and that I would have to pay $154.00 by today to have it put back into place. He would not take any responsibility for this as I assumed he was out to get me and told him to cancel the policy, which had already been canceled based on what was paid yesterday. He then tried to pull some line that I still owed them $22.82 for services provided. I couldn't believe this. I was so mad I told him he would never see a dime and I hung up.

On June 3, 2010, I had an appointment scheduled with Mr. ** (American Family Physical Damage Claims Adjuster) to have my 1995 Ford Taurus inspection for damages sustained to my car around December 18, 2009. Prior to my appointment with Mr. **, I was informed by one of Gino ** representatives that my premiums would not be affected if State Farm had to pay no more than $1,000.00 towards the repairs of my vehicle. Since my car is so old and the Blue Book value for my vehicle was a little over $1,000.00, I purchased the driver’s side front headlight and blinker assembly with the intention of possibly fixing my vehicle myself. I paid a total of $97.48 for the brand new parts.

After Mr. ** inspected my vehicle on June 3, 2010, he stated that the repairs total that American Family will cover based on his observations would cover $893.71 minus my $250.00 deductible for a total of $643.71. Mr. ** handed me a check made out in my name for $643.71. He asked me if I wanted Key Cadillac Auto Body to look at my vehicle and see if they could perform the work for the quoted price. It should be noted that Key Cadillac Auto Body is located in the same complex as Mr. ** office. I informed Mr. ** that "yes" I would be interested in considering having Key Cadillac Auto Body perform the work on my vehicle "as long as they can keep my bill under $1,000.00, not including my $250.00 deductible. Otherwise, I will most likely have my car repaired to avoid having my premiums go up. For the record, my car is barely worth more than $1,000 in perfect condition. Nonetheless, I had a representative from Key Cadillac Auto Body look at my vehicle that same day and time.

One June 3, 2010, upon being informed by the Key Cadillac Auto Body representative that "yes" they could repair my car for the estimated price that Jeffrey ** determined, that "yes" they could begin work on my car that day, that "yes" they could credit me on the parts I previously purchased to possibly repair my car myself, and furthermore, that they could provide me with a loaner car while mine was being repaired. I gave them the keys to my car and the check that Jeffrey ** issued me for $643.71 stating, "You may proceed with the work as long as the charges do not exceed $1,000.00 in addition to my $250.00 deductible. The gentleman from Key Cadillac Auto Body stated, "That shouldn't be a problem."

Approximately one week later, I was contacted by Key Cadillac Auto Body stating that my car would be under repair for a few more days. They stated an additional part was ordered that would tie up my car for at least another day. On June 10, 2010, my vehicle was ready to be picked up. When I arrived at Key Cadillac Auto Body and paid the balance on my complete bill with Key Cadillac Auto Body, I was informed by the Key Cadillac Auto Body representative who assisted me, Dale **, that my bill was in excess of the $1,000.00 plus my $250.00 deductible, which exceeded $1,250.00 which I under no circumstances authorized to exceed. My vehicle is not worth $1,200.00. Nonetheless, due to the complete disregard of my directive both to Jeffrey ** as well as Dale ** of Key Cadillac Auto Body, I am told by American Family Insurance Company that my motor vehicle insurance premiums are going to increase $200.00 per year on my policy due to approximately $27.00.

I am very dissatisfied by the way this matter has been handled thus far. Mr. ** had the audacity to inform my insurance agent, Gino **, that Mr. ** and I had a telephone conversation while my car was being repaired by Key Cadillac Auto Body, which he allegedly informed me that my bill will be much higher than originally estimated. Not only is this a lie, furthermore that this phone conversation never took place. I have phone records to illustrate/prove that this alleged phone conversation never took place, and I am prepared to present this information upon request. I have severe concerns with the honesty and integrity of Jeffrey **.

On several occasions, I feel, Mr. ** has not been truthful regarding matters dealing with my claim. Mr. M. has not been truthful with me, nor is Gino **, who is my American Family insurance agent. Furthermore, he has been dishonest and deceiving with the representatives of Key Cadillac Auto body. Mr. ** has no integrity. I challenge Jeffrey ** to prove without any doubt that this alleged phone conversation that he and I had where he claims he made me aware of the price increase of damage repairs to my vehicle actually took place. Mr. ** appears to be attempting to cover his footsteps for lack of his own due diligence.

As a paying and loyal customer to American Family Insurance Company for 10+ years, I refuse to be treated like this. Furthermore, under no circumstances will I tolerate lies. I was very clear and pragmatic with my directives to both Jeffrey ** and Dale ** that I would not be authorizing any repairs done to my motor vehicle if the charges were to exceed $1,250.00. Additionally, the parts I provided Key Cadillac Auto Body with, why was I not credited the entire amount of $97.48, which I paid to John's Automotive Parts on March 28, 2010?

Remember, in addition to two (2) motor vehicle insurance policies with American Family Insurance Company, I also hold my homeowners insurance policy, an ATV insurance policy, a snowmobile insurance policy, passed motorcycle insurance policies, etc. I asked American Family Insurance to please not give me the cause to explore other insurance options outside of American Family Insurance Company due to a $27.00 overage, which should have never happened in the first place. I am very upset about this matter.

I called American Family Insurance over and over again and not once answered their phones or called me back, until my husband called and threatened to sue and they only called him but not me. I am just getting sick and tired of these insurance companies being able to do as they want. They have ripped us off and ruined our health care and are now attacking the auto insurance policy holders. I have been with American Family Insurance for I believe 6 to 7 years and have never been late to pay my premiums and have only 1 claim due to a deer jumping in front of my daughter. Everything has went south in the past few months with them.

First, I started a small business last July and had all my insurance for the business through them. When I signed up for the business insurance, I was transferred a vehicle from my family plan over to the business plan. Well, I noticed that after about 6-7 months, I was double paying for that vehicle; they did not cancel my family plan for the vehicle. They said they would give me credit on the business account, and I told them that they had to credit my family plan since that is the one that was being paid for and was to be cancelled.

Well, after a few weeks of battling with them, they ran the credit through my family account. But I am still certain that I did not receive the correct amount of credit. Then business did not do well, so I cancelled that insurance and closed the business on February 15, 2010. Well in March, I received a bill from them for $52.00 and called them as to what this was for, and I was for the amount I owed because of my cancel date and the billing date of my business policy. OK, I could live with that, but I thought it was a little more than what I thought it should be. I mean you're talking about 3-4 days difference.

Well anyway, two days after talking with the lady, I received a bill for the amount of a whole month ($187.00). Well that one sent me to the roof (not through the roof), and I contacted them again and could not get anywhere with them. They were telling me that they did not receive my cancellation until it was at the renewal for the April. So I had to pay it.

I am starting to see a pattern here and thinking it is time to look for a new agent (slacking on the paper work). Well, I told them I needed to have documentation on the cancel date and a copy of my entire billing and payment history before I would pay this. Well, I never heard from them again for two weeks when I received a collection letter from a company representing American Family Insurance trying to collect $187.00 from me. Oh yeah, it gets better.

While I am trying to get this resolved, I got the renewal letter for my family plan; and guess what, due to things on my credit report, my insurance is going up. I am now paying 25% more per month that will cost me about $600.00 more per year. Now, I am not saying that I have a great credit report and things were really tough when I was trying to get the business up and running, but come on! I guess if I were making all kind of claims and late with my premiums with them, then maybe they can charge me a little extra. But when we are doing just the opposite, then they have to look at how I have been loyal to them for the past 7 years.

Well, the loyalty is going by the wayside, and I am ready to fight this as far as I can and am hoping that I can convince anyone else out there, who just doesn't think this is right, to write their local, state, and US representatives to have them stop these people before they get out of control like the credit card cons.

I know that there are many Americans out there who are financially struggling for the past couple of years, and now, what is going to happen? The insurance companies are all going to be getting richer, and there will be a lot of uninsured drivers on the road because people are just not going to be able to keep paying. So just think they renew my policies every six months, so I am probably going to see another increase then and it will continue on for how long? Let's take a stand!

I have a perfect driving record and nothing happened in that year of my policy. When it came time to renew, they raised my car insurance rates to over $32 a month. I was already paying almost twice that of my fiance, who doesn't have as good of a driving record as I do. When I called to ask why, the lady said, "I'm sorry, I wish I didn't have to pay so much for insurance too but we all do." Not about you lady! Then when I told her that I would probably have to cancel both policies and take my business somewhere else, she said, "I don't appreciate your tone with me, I am trying to help you." I didn't have a tone. I was merely informing her that we wouldn't be continuing insurance with her and you were helping me? How?

So I canceled the insurance and today they still took out of my bank account the amount of the premium. When I called to ask why, she said they needed 30 days before they could cancel a transaction and I had only called 2 weeks prior. I told her I didn't know she was going to raise my insurance so how would I know I need to cancel. I only put cash in my checking if I have bills to pay. Otherwise for everything else, I pay cash or it goes into savings. My bank account is negative and she is claiming they aren't liable. Sorry, but you are. I even asked the lady when I canceled if any more amounts would be taken out and she said no. I am pretty sure AmFam is liable. Seriously, get your stuff together.

This is actually a follow-up on the October 14, 2009 note about American Family. They still have not settled with us on the total loss of our van. They stated that they made the determination of us being 25% at fault even though we had no traffic control with the exception of a speed limit and we were 10 mph below the limit. Their driver was cited for careless driving and they feel they are not completely at fault!
Am. Fam. has told me that since they have made the determination, it will not be changed without a lot more evidence. The police report and the breaking of the law is not good enough to determine liability with them. In the meantime, we have been without a vehicle for nearly two months.

Our vehicle was totalled following an accident where the policy holder of American Family was responsible. She was given a ticket by the police officer at the scene of the accident due to her careless driving. Their driver left a stop sign and hit our van broadside. Since it wasn't our insurance company's responsibility to ultimately pay, we tried to work with American Family to settle. They did not contact us until 2 weeks following the accident and then tried to blame that on the time it takes to get the accident report (these are available on-line at a reduced rate compared to having them mailed out and was availabe 4 days after the accident). Their representative somehow determined that "according to Nebraska Law" our driver had 25% of the liability in the accident - even though their was no traffic control on our road and the other driver admitted that she hadn't looked before she pulled into the lane of traffic. We found their representative cold and unfeeling when it came to the fact that we were the party at a loss that we were not liable for. She was unwilling to actually listen to our side of the conversation during phone calls even hung up during one coversation. She did take the time to put in her notes that she "ended the conversation". I guess that is the code word for "hung up" at their company. Throughout this process, they have not been willing to give any compensation for the excellent condition of our vehicle and even went so far as to encourage us to contact an attorney. We are not the type of people who sue to make a financial gain, but after dealing with Pamela it is easy see why some people may choose that route. We do not feel that it is morally right to expect our own insurance company pay for somethimg when the other company is ultimately responsible for the loss.

I have a restored 1964 Chevy truck and I was hit by an American Family insured who ran a stop sign. He was issued a citation for the accident. Then American Family Ins. says that he's not insured. My insurance researched and says yes, he is and they will sue. All of a sudden, they say their insured is insured and will pay. I thought, "Okay, now it's all taken care of?"

The first problem was getting them to want to fix the truck. I had to show receipts and pics, so they knew it was restored and would fix it. Then, they only wanted to do a half job and not have it done right, so that was a fight! Then, their adjuster who was supposed to make sure things were done etc. was never there. The body shop would need to find certain parts or get permission to fix items. They would finally call me and I would find the parts and get what they needed, and spent money out of my pocket to get job done.

Of course, AFI does not want to reimburse me for my lost time to do this for them! And now, 6 mo. later, they are nickel and diming me on my expenses and medical bills. And of course, the low ball bid to settle and their low ball is under ground. It is so low. I have dealt with so many people and I know they think that if I just get jerked around long enough that I will give up. But it's not right!

I have decided to get a lawyer. I am so mad that I don't care if I lose money at this point just to make them pay what they owe, even if it is to a lawyer and not me. And of course, AFI will not understand because I'm sure they don't have the concept of principles! And to call themselves "American Family" is an insult to anyone with morals! If it were American Ripoff Ins., then I would, at least, have some respect for them (very little respect).

In July 2006, I was rear-ended by a driver while I was stopped at a red light. There was a car in front of me. The driver who hit my car, hit it with enough force to push my car into the car in front of me, totaling my car and damaging the car in front of me. The car who hit me was insured by American Family Insurance. Inexplicably, this driver was not tested for alcohol by the police. Inexplicably, this driver was not cited for reckless driving or any other charge.

I sustained a back injury that I still suffer from more than two years later. My car was totaled, which placed both my job and my fiancee's job in jeopardy, since we both depend on that car to work. We had to rent a car to get through nearly ten days until we could replace the car. The insurance company did pay the rental and for the car eventually, but only past deadlines that caused the rental company to charge my account and create a cascade of bounced checks and bank fees. The insurance company took more than a month to deal with the immediate problems, but my medical problems took two years to resolve.

After I submitted my medical bills and lost wages (which took me three months because I was undergoing treatment and was under incredible stress trying to work while injured), the insurance company took four months to review the claim. Then, they requested all my medical records for the last five years. I complied with this request under protest and according to the advice of my lawyer, but it took another two months to comply. The accident was in July 2006, and I had sent them all my records by April 2007. The insurance company continued to review my records for another four months after that. Then, in August of 2007, they turned the claim over to a different adjuster, and took another seven months to review my claim. In May of 2008, they offered to settle my claim by paying my creditors directly, and essentially paying me nothing for the economic distress that had been ongoing in my life since the accident. I protested vehemently to my lawyer, who then attempted to negotiate a higher settlement.

Finally, In July 2008, just before the two year legal deadline for settling claims, they offered me a reasonable settlement. I accepted it, and expected a check within a few weeks. Two weeks passed, and no check had been mailed to my lawyer. I called to inquire and my lawyer said they have a process to go through and it could take 6-8 weeks to send a check. This is a corporation with billions of dollars in assets, in an age when funds and communications can be sent at the click of a button. I was angry at this unreasonable stalling, but I waited, having no other choice. Eight weeks after the settlement, I called my lawyer again. This time, the company claimed to have mailed the check, and that the check was lost in the mail, causing them to have to cancel that check, and mail a replacement. The replacement, I was told, was mailed last week. That was two weeks ago. Still no check.

This is now ten weeks past the deadline for settling an insurance claim. I'm at my wit's end. I have numerous financial difficulties because I've had to take out loans and the loans are due. I'm still not back to fully being able to work as many hours as I worked before the accident. I still take pain medication for my injuries, and I need that medication to get through the day at work. It's outrageous that a corporation can stall a legitimate claim settlement for two years, with no consequences. It's outrageous that a corporation uses 'check is in the mail' and 'check is lost in the mail' as an excuse to stall paying me PAST the legal deadline to settle a claim, when electronic transfers are available. Today is two weeks past the last time they used check is in the mail. Do they get to continue with that excuse indefinitely, or can something be done?

What if we gather all these complaints on this site and write to the attorney general about revoking their charter and placing the company in receivership? Perhaps the people who are the majority shareholders don't care how the corporate leadership is using the charter? If not, then perhaps the majority shareholders should be disenfranchised, with a reclassification of shares, and we can bring in new corporate leadership. This is the prerogative of the people, since corporate charter is granted for the purpose of public benefit. It's not an entitlement.

On January 20, 2006, my daughter, niece and myself were involved in an automobile accident by a motorist covered by American Family Insurance. The driver was at fault and my daghter and I suffered neck and back injuries. My xrays showed a floating bone in my neck and it my daughters whiplash never healed. She suffers to this day with migranes and has a need for massages and other relaxation methods and adjustments.

I settled my case but the adjustor did not honor our agreement. He stated that a doctor would be paid directly from them and in fact that was not the case. After calling him to inquire about the monies that the docotr did not receive being forwarded to me, he stated that the insurance company that paid the insurance company had to be reimbursed even though there was no lien from the other insurance company which was my insurance. He later called that insurance company and requested that lien (AAA).

We then began negotiations regarding my daughter's claim and he stated I needed to complete another medical release form since the one I signed earlier had expired. I was concerned about his wording and tone and phoned his supervior again regarding is deceptive practices and stated that I believed that he would request my records from before the accident. He did just that and even though there was documentation that showed my daughter's injuries would not get better, he refused to increase the settlement offer of $7,700.00. Over $3,8000 of this was then medical.

I hired an attorney who found out that even though Mr. Cary D's offers included medical amounts that had to be paid to a doctor, he had already received a release of lein from that doctor over a year earlier. After speaking with Joe F, Cary's supervisor and stated that I was going to sue American Family for both of our cases even though I had already settled, It was my concern that since they had not honored the settlement the settlement could be open again. He then decided to settle for the $7,7000.00 but since Cary was stating that the injury was preexisting since Ebony had seen the same doctor before and after the accident, but for different reasons. This meant that the entire $7,700 would go to me for Ebony as no medical bills would be paid from the injury settlement. This agreement was made in April of 2008.

I received a letter stating the lenght of time the process would take and steps that needed to be made. I was asked if I had an attorney to act for Ebony and I decided to hire the attorney that I had hired before and then fired, since she was familar with the case and had seen the medical records, etc. For sure, she could speed things up since she was familar with the case. American Family played phone tag, did not return calls and to date have not received the payment expected. I feel that I am being treated unfairly and that American Family is not acting in good faith.

I borrowed, took out payday loans, overbooked checking accounts, etc, making sure that Ebony's needs were always taken care of. We have moved and made other changes expecting to receive these funds at the time promised. Not receiving them has caused more hardships as I continue to make purchases and/or plans for repayment and when the funds are not received, more borrowing to make payments that I promised to make. This summer Ebony broke here Tibula and Fibula skating. Skating was the new sport she started since the neck injury limited what she could do. Now, we have more expenses, diapers, wipes, wheelchair is not covered by her insurance, etc. The situation is made worse we we consider that we sometimes have to count pennies to wash her soiled laundry when she has a settlement that we should have received already.

American Family Insurance has raised our auto insurance rates based on our credit score. They have discriminated against us based on the fact that I have some delinquent payments to my student loan on our credit record. I do pay as much as I can each week. I will be the first to admit we have been working on improving our credit score for years. All credit cards have been paid in full.

My husband and I both have full-time employment but we have a hard time making ends meet. Our pay each weeks goes straight to bills leaving a small amount to purchase food and gas. We pay daycare expenses for our two children and have eliminated all other expenses such as the internet, cable, satellite and a home phone. Any expenses not immediately necessary are eliminated. We are responsible people and plan to pay all bills but it cannot happen all at once.

I do not understand what our credit score has to do with our driving ability and why we are labeled as high risk because of our credit scores. We have never filed a claim on our homeowners insurance or on our auto insurance for any accident damage due to any fault on our part. I would like to state my opinion and hope I can take part in the actions to stop the insurance companies from these discriminatory insurance practices.

We have two trucks, one paid for and one with one year left. I have dropped the insurance on one truck and we will not drive it anymore until I find an insurance company with fair business practices.

Mike E side swiped my can on 07/28/2008. He admitted that he hit me at the accident site. A police officer Sgt. Stanley D arrived right behind us. We pulled off on a side street and the officer asked if we need any help. I replied that as long as Mr. E had insurance (since he hit me) I believed that everything was OK. Mr. E acknowledged his fault and showed us both his insurance. I gathered his information along with his insurance informatin and he took my name and address and phone #. He did not ask for my insurance, as he knew it was his fault.

I later filed an accident report 08/01/2008 and contacted Sgt. D( Gladstone police dept.) to confirm that he knew that E was at fault and he agreed that he acknowledged fault. He said he would testify for me, if I needed him to.

Mr. E's insurance company is only willing to pay 50% of my damages which are $1554.32. I feel this is totally unacceptable. He side swiped me and admitted it. I received a letter from American Family Insurance stating the 50% offer. I feel it is unjust. The claims agent has been out of the office. I hope you can help me with this problem.

My car has over $1500.00 in damage and they only want to pay half. I don't feel my insurance should have to pay the rest.

My wife and I had insurance with them and found cheaper insurance elsewhere. My wife called them and told them about the change in April. Now thats its August, they are telling me I owe them $103, for the end of the term. Of course they will 'fix-it' if I get papers sent over to show them of the change. I guess its not that big of a deal, but if the office staff would pull their heads out of their rear-end this would have never happened. The only time I ever got anything resolved was if and when I got in touch with Rachel Boston. Half the time she was never there, or she made a bad habit of calling me back 5 minutes BEFORE the office closed!

At one time my we had home-owners isurance and moved and changed it to renters insurance. We had to fight with them every month because they were still charging us for home-owners even though we wanted renters..home-owners was alot more spendy. The last two months (the last straw) was we found out that once we got the whole renters insurance thing fixed, they were charging us for 'mold and mildew' insurance. When we called and asked aobut it, we were told they would check into it and not to worry about it. Thats the main reason I don't recommend anyone dealing with them.

Whats funny..is they say I owe them money, but technically, I had isurance on my motorcyle for a full year..paid in full. I cancelled that in April even though it was paid up for June or July...so they actuall owe me money. I doubt they will be willing to cut me a refund..but we will see.

Spoke with Rachel at the claims center and Mindy an adjuster regarding damages to a 1988 Omni I was driving that was struck in the rear by their insureds pickup truck at a red light. They told me that even though their insured was cited and accepted responsibility they had not determined liability.

After she inspected the vehicle she stated that since the vehicle would be a total loss it would require a different adjuster. When we did not hear from anyone, my husband who is the title holder of the vehicle attempted to call Rachel abnd was told that they had never heard of her and knew nothing about our claim. He was transferred to another number where he left a message as the person was in a meeting. He called several times and was sent to a different person every time all of whom were in meetings. No calls have been returned.

The car is in the tow lot gathering storage charges and I am paying for a rental car until this is resolved.

I got into an accident with someone that has this insurance back in Dec 2007 and I still haven't had everything settled. The ticket was issued to the other driver and there also was a witness that saw the whole thing yet I'm being belamed for the accident. I had to pay for the dedutible and the rental of the vehicle which total about $1700. And I'm only getting 75% because they lied and said that I caused the accident. My insurance company took pictures and everything to show how everything took place but that stood their ground. I really didn't want to go to court for this because there was no guarantee of me winning and I would be out a lot more.

I was out $425, my truck isn't the same, and my girlfriend had to deal with a lot with trying to get a hold of someone to talk to. I spent the money that I was saving for my property taxes and now I have to find another way to get the money because this doesn't cover the total anymore.

My payment is due on the 18th of every month. I admit fully that I did not make my payment on March 18th. Instead I took it to my local branch of Carol Weiss- my agent on March 31. I must have just missed the 5:00 deadline because the door was locked so I put it in the box. Now, even though I made the payment and I'm not due again until April 18th, they are telling me that I have to make the April 18th payment by April 11th or I will be cancelled on April 12th. I told them that I am now current because the past due amount has been paid. I told them that I cannot imagine by any stretch of the imagination how a person can be cancelled 6 days before their premium is due. They informed me that it is their company policy to demand the next month's premium when a premium comes in past due and that's just how it is. This just seems very wrong that someone may be cancelled before their premium is even due.

I have not suffered a loss because I will make the payment on the 11th. Basically, because I cannot risk driving without insurance. However, I do not feel that this company is practicing fair business.I'm wondering if it is legal to cancel someone when they do not have a past due balance especially when that person has been a customer for 2 years.

I was involved in a vehicle accident on Nov. 2, 2007. While sitting at the light I was rear ended. Found out later through police report that passenger (not driver) of the other vehicle reported that my car rolled back or stalled, which it did not, I hadn't moved. The police officer that took our statements made the report out to be my fault, but the police report is being amended because of the officer's mistake. American Family has sent me a letter already saying that I'm at fault and is denying my claim, before receiving the amended police report and medical records.

$1100 damage to car. Sister was transported to hospital by ambulance for back, neck and leg pain. I later went to hospital for right shoulder and neck pain.

Late last year, my American Family insurance agent failed to set-up the automatic payments on my account, that I had signed up for. After two months, she finally informed me that she hadn't set up the automatic payments and that she had canceled my coverage. Because of her error, I ended up with an SR-22 on my driving record, which doubled my monthly premium. My coverage was then reinstated in February, and it renewed in August of this year. On October 18th, I called my agent to pay the monthly premium over the phone. I spoke with her assistant who told me the amount due was $146.23, same as every month, since the SR-22. I gave her my credit card number to process the payment. On November 2, my agent called me and left a voicemail stating that my coverage had been canceled for non-payment. I immediately called her back and spoke with her assistant who stated that I've had a past-due balance since March.

First, I advised her that I have proof that there was not a past due balance on my account. Then I asked her why she hadn't mentioned a past-due balance when she told me the amount due on Oct. 18th. She said it wasn't important. She then accused me of not paying my bills and hung up on me! When I finally got my agent on the phone, she told me that I had been one month behind on my payments since March and that the outstanding balance is $107. I reminded her that my monthly premium is not $107. I also reminded her that she renewed my coverage in August and asked her why she would renew a policy, if there was an outstanding balance. She couldn't answer my question.

After making numerous calls to various people at American Insurance, from underwriters to management, I have since signed up with another insurance company; and I've reported the agent from American Family to my bank for committing fraud. It would appear that the agent is running a scam and pocketing her clients' money. She should lose her license to sell insurance.

American Family caused me to unknowingly drive around without insurance, resulting in an SR-22 on my driving record. Also, the SR-22 unnecessarily increased my premium. Nina Falls has taken several hundred dollars worth of payments from me, but hasn't applied them to my account, which means that she now owes me money.

On 12/9/05 my wife and I were hit by a 22 year old female driver insured by American Family Insurance. Our car was totaled. She has admitted full liability to us, and her insurance company. She was ticketed by the police.

On 1/21/06 I received a settlement offer on the car for $1,168.84. My car, in the condition it was before the accident, could not be replaced for that amount. After some research, using sites such as Edmond's, Kelley Blue Book, and Auto-Traders, I sent a letter to American Family making a counter offer with the results of my research.

After following up with them by phone I have gotten nothing back from them. The last conversation I had with them was on February 25th with Simon who stated "if you don't like it, sue me. I have 15 lawyers on staff and this is all they do".

The trucker's insurance agent was a nightmare - incredibily unprofessional, arrogant, and unintelligible saying my fiance was 20% liable for the other drivers "failure to yield at a stop sign. I now know American Family is the worst insurance company ever.

I now live in Paris France and have married a French man and am now covered by insurance and thank God it is paying for my medical bills.
