American Family Insurance happy to drive our world back into the dark ages. They will not even speak to you (to give a quote) unless you first give them your date of birth. Guess they really don't care for customers shopping around (how convenient for them), so not going to be a customer of American Family Insurance.

I have been with American Family Insurance for many, many years, and have more than 7 different policies insuring multiple homes, autos, boats and other items. I recently purchased another boat which is a family sport boat. 2007 Cobra Viper 230. I purchased the insurance and was contacted by my agent that they were cancelling my new boat policy because the boat is a high performance boat!! This is a family sport boat, no different than any other sport boat!! Just because the Manufacturer does produce high performance boats, my model is NOT. Do your research American Family if you don't have the info on the boat. I will be cancelling ALL my policies and going with another company.

I recently experienced a rear-end accident where I was deemed not at fault. The insurance company involved was American Family Insurance, and unfortunately, my experience with them was extremely negative. The adjuster assigned to my case was consistently rude and exhibited what I perceived as unethical behavior. Despite being found not at fault, their treatment made me feel as though I was to blame for the entire accident. Based on my personal experience, I strongly advise against choosing American Family Insurance, as I found their conduct to be both unethical and rude.

We've had bundled auto and home insurance with American Family for a little under 20 years. In that time we had one claim for the roof on the home after a tornado in 2008, and that was it. In 2022 a distracted driver without the necessary corrective lenses drifted into our car and heavily damaged the driver's side while my husband was driving. He tried calling AmFam immediately and their claims line wouldn't answer, despite us trying for several hours. The next morning he called at straight up 8AM and found out the other driver had been able to talk to someone with AmFam already, even though we for some reason couldn't get through. Because we live in a no-fault state it wasn't a huge issue, but it was somewhat irritating.

The next bill we received (our policy renews every 6 months) was about 8% higher, even though we had been told we qualified for "accident forgiveness" because of no auto claims or tickets in 20 years. I tried calling our agent but couldn't get hold of him (and have not, as yet, even been able to speak to him, even though he took over the office a few years ago) and only got someone I was unfamiliar with telling me there was no such thing as "accident forgiveness." There is, their website goes into it in detail.

Our next bill also had an increase, and the next one after that, too, for a total increase of nearly 30%. Was unable to find a detailed breakdown of the policies online, the website has definitely decreased the information available to the insured versus what we used to be able to get. (We can't get details on the homeowner's insurance unless we request a policy to be mailed to us, for some reason.) We were able to find auto insurance for half the price elsewhere. When our home insurance renews we'll be going elsewhere for that as well. They were fine until we had a claim, then suddenly turned into a terrible insurance company to deal with.

I would avoid this company at all costs and pray you don't get hit by a driver insured by this company. They are a scam and will go to extreme lengths to avoid paying a claim. My son's car was hit while it was sitting stationary in a PARKING LOT. The driver then tried to hit and run but thankfully my son saw it and demanded he stay. The driver then refused to give us his insurance information and tried to bully my son. The insurance company has been a nightmare to deal with, first of all they make you go to certain places for an estimate, the shops all have less than 3 stars. Then when the estimate is provided, they haggle it down with the shop to reduce your estimate and your payout is worthless. Their customer service is horrible, the claims adjuster assigned to us never even called, I dealt with his team of unprofessional workers. I would never consider this company on my own and I pray I never get hit by one of their idiot drivers.

So I've had my insurance with them since I was 16. Auto got married. Husband had AmFam, bought a house. Had it for that and I've had business liability insurance since 2014. So the cost of amfam is ridiculous. So we looked for other insurance. We purchase other insurance and canceled all of our policies with American family. So I get a bill in the mail for 73 and some change simply because I canceled my business liability too early now. I was never told of any of this 9 years ago that there was such a thing. Like how long did I have to have this insurance for them to not consider it cancelling early..

So calling around and they're like it's on page 27 paragraph something. Here's the thing. I was never told about this and I researched this now. They charged me $49 a month for my liability insurance. The company I am now with charges $23 so now I get a collections paper seen. They're going to turn me over if I don't pay the $73. That's theft. They steal money and one hand doesn't know what the next hand is doing in that company. My suggestion research and don't use American family.

A driver that has American Family Insurance rear ended me in my almost new 2019 Buick. I had around 30,000 miles on it. It took a month for them to approve my car repairs. When I called three times to ask for diminished value on my car I finally got a call back from the company offering me $300.00 dollars. When I said that my diminished value was over $3,000 I was told the most they would offer me is $600.00. They are trying to rip me off and when you lose that much value by no fault of your own that shows me what kind of company you're dealing with. I have never had to deal with a company as bad as this one. I would not recommended them to anyone. I'm going to have to get a attorney involved to make them do what's right.

I tell everyone, when talking about insurance or roadside. You can also pay to have car rental, in case you need a car because yours is being repaired.

Not impressed with your customer service right now, especially during this pandemic. I have been with American Family for around 30 years. My vehicle was caught in a hail storm and I filed a claim. Since your claims department did not have adjusters working during this pandemic, I took my vehicle to the dealership for an estimate. The dealership in return sent American Family adjusters photos and the itemized estimate. I received a call from your adjusters wanting to send me a check for 25% less. They said since they couldn’t see by the pictures they would pay less. I then spoke the a manager in claims and was lied to by him. He stated the body shop had agreed to their reduced price when that wasn’t what your first adjuster stated. She had said they would start the work and send pics as they were fixing it to show the damage she could not see in pictures. Contact Ron **. Thanks

My husband was killed in Dec. 2015, my mom and best friend died in May of 2016 and I've been a bit of a mess. During the year of 2017 I kept locking my keys in the car and even completely lost my key keys. (Luckily was able to find them the 4th time checking with the customer service desk.) My car broke down and I had to have it towed and they were there every time and it was 100% covered. Being a widowed mon with a son that's only 5 years old it's very comforting to know that someone is really there when you need them.

I recently had just switched to Liberty Mutual because they were $50 cheaper and unfortunately had to call their roadside assistance because I lost my keys after coming home from flying a kite with my son and had a terrible experience. They said help was on the way on the 2nd call and was told I was covered up to $100, 2 hours and a 3rd call later I was told no one was sent and that they don't cover key replacement. THANK GOD this happened at home and not on the side of the road or at a shopping center because I always have my 5yr old son with me. I have been with Liberty Mutual less than a month.

Needless to say I'm switching back first thing Monday. I'm calling my American Family agent to see what I have to do to switch back. The $50 more I was paying was EXTREMELY WORTH THE PEACE OF MIND KNOWING THEY ARE REALLY THERE FOR ME & MY SON. American Family Insurance rockes and are the best. They even sent out their customers a $50 check to help during this Covid19 pandemic. They truly care for their customers.

I had been a customer for over 30 years with both home and car insurance. I always paid my bills on time. Recently, over about a 2 year period, I had a few minor claims. First, my car was hit from behind, and I had medical bills which AmFam told me would be claimed on my insurance, but billed back to the other party. I had to call road rescue to start my car when the battery had died, I backed out of my garage and fender bumped a teenager's car who had parked in my driveway illegally (considered my fault), and then I had a major accident when I got hit by a deer on the way to the airport.

As I said previously, all of this happened in about a 2 year period. Well, my agent called and told me that "they could not renew me at my current coverage." It took me a minute to realize what she was saying. I'm not "cancelled," I'm just "non-renewed." After demanding, I got a letter showing only ONE claim was considered my fault--the fender bender which was a $2K claim. So thanks a lot AM Fam. You suck.

I had home insurance with American Family Insurance. In March, 2019 I had a contractor steal property from my home. I was forced to put in a claim to recover the loss. Instead of trying to help, their claims department has done everything possible to delay and frustrate this claim. They ask for irrelevant and private documents (manipulating a part in the contract you get with them) hoping that the request will not be honored so they can use the contact clause of failing to provide documents to deny your claim. Then they say their legal department will get in contact with you to conduct a deposition under oath, but they never seem to get with you.

This company treats everyone like a criminal and does everything they can in order to not have to pay your money owed for your loss. It has come to the point where I have drafted a lawsuit and I am about to file in order to get what money is owed to me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. IF YOU EVER FILE A CLAIM THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE A CRIMINAL AND DO THINGS TO NOT PAY YOU. You have been warned. If it was an option, they would get negative stars with this review.

I put a claim in with American Family Insurance on 09/30/19 because my vehicle was in an accident with one of their clients on 09/25. Their client was cited for failure to yield and listed as at fault on the police report. Without any investigation, and without the claims adjuster speaking to me on 10/02 I received a voicemail denying my claim saying there's a video of my brother saying he was driving with his headlights off. I called her a liar and told her if this video exist then I have a right to see it and want to see it to which she replied "she'll show it when I take them to court." When I called her back on 10/10 to get a copy of the claim denial letter she said "she'll send it after her client court hearing." I filed a complaint with the insurance complaint in my state and they were of No help. American Family responded with nothing but lies claiming my claim wasn't denied, and the person handling my complaint didn't bother to investigate.

It's now 3 months and there still hasn't been a detailed investigation. Fortunately the claims adjuster was stupid enough to leave a voicemail denying my claim. She didn't follow any of the protocols that Georgia requires when someone files a claim. For example I haven't even received a proof of loss document that is required within 15 days. She never took a statement from me or my brother who was driving the vehicle when it was in the accident. Instead she called and told him they wasn't paying and left a voicemail telling me the same thing. Georgia requires a thorough investigation before a claim can be finalized. Based on their actions I am in the process of filing a third party bad faith claim against this insurance company because of how they handled my claim. And I really question the integrity of their workers because they are Dishonest, Unprofessional, Rude, Condescending, and Misleading.

Worst company ever for auto insurance coverage!! Do not use them if you would like actual help if ever in a car accident. My vehicle was hit by another car and when I called to report my accident to my insurance I was told they would only help advise me if I opened a claim. I had never been in an accident so I had no idea what I was doing. I explained that the other driver was at fault and that their insurance would cover any damages and I only need help with what I needed to do. The company provided false information and told me I could only get help if I opened a claim and that it would be non fault so it would not change my premium rates in the future.

They completely lied to get me to open a claim, after giving my statement they told me I would have to pay them the $500 deductible so they could help me further and I said no, cancel everything you are doing. I do not want this to be on my record. I have done nothing. I only wanted help with what steps to take. The agent told me they would only help me if I opened a claim and paid them money. They did not cancel my request, instead I now have a claim on my name and my insurance rates have gone up $30/month because of the misguidance their agents provided. I put a complaint in with the Office of Insurance Commissioner and they are not able to make them remove the claim from my name even though they did absolutely nothing to help me besides cause more stress in my life!! The adjuster told me that l should ask my neighbor to harvest some good tiles in order to replace my damage ones just because that kind of tiles were discontinued. What a mistreatments... I had a major concussion and had to stop everything because it was getting worse. They fought me after 20 years of paying them for auto insurance to not cover those medical bills. They broke their contract with me and they will with others. It’s really sad that when you need your contract fulfilled they made me take them to court and the arbitrator who was older than dirt, ruled against me. I believe they paid him off as what my attorney has suggested. DON’T buy American Family Insurance.

During summer vacation we were traveling by Yale University. We were stopped at a stop and go light on a vehicle came up and rear-ended us. It was a city vehicle. The gentleman took responsibility and provided his insurance information. He indicated his brakes went out which is why he smashed into my car. When I called my American Family number for help, the rep yelled at me for assuming the other person would be at fault. She indicated he was not at fault since his brakes went out and that there was nothing Am Fam insurance company could do to help me. She was unconcerned about the well being of my family or my vehicle. I found myself fighting with my own insurance company - Am Fam in this situation. However the other person's insurance company - out of Arizona - was very kind and helpful and concerned. I'm appalled that my own insurance company treated me with such disrespect and tried to blame me for an accident where the other party and their insurance had admitted fault.

My insurance company did not offer me a rental vehicle or indicate that my child who was in the back seat at the time should be seen for medical care. It was the other insurance company who recommended those things occur to keep my family safe. I'm appalled once again by the treatment from American Family representative. And the fact that she never made any apologies for this frustrates me even more. I wish American Family could help me understand why they didn't stand behind me in a situation where I was clearly not at fault and why they made me feel worse by yelling at me instead of caring about the well-being of my family.

American Family Insurance has an agency finance plan they use to attract new agents. They pay a small salary and reimburse you for staff and office expenses for four years. They keep ALL renewal premium for that four years also. I was an agent for four years! 2 weeks before I came off of agency finance. They terminated me. I was called into a meeting at headquarters. I was then sandwiched between two huge men who I did not know and told my contract was terminated effective immediately. The reason given was I was rude on the phone with someone in another department of American Family Insurance. However they provided no valid proof. Since the agent never owns the policies and isn't vested for ten years AmFam will not purchase them from the agent.

I worked over 60 hours a week to meet the high metrics required to remain on the finance plan. After returning to my office from that meeting, my login was disabled for me and my staff. However I was still responsible for a commercial lease, alarm system, etc. American Family Insurance is a greedy shady company. Upper management stole my agency from me and other established agents to make their numbers look good so they could get their bonuses. I am a mother and this caused my family extreme emotional and financial difficulties that I can't even express in words but I will say this--- imagine paying your home premium for years faithfully and then losing everything in a fire- then imagine American Family Insurance doing whatever they can to not pay.

You will be left homeless and in ruins. That's what they did to me and I strongly suggest no one does business with them. This is how they treat their own agents. They steal from us. 4 years working as a 1099 contractor with no overtime pay, retirement benefits, paid time off, etc. because you are thinking you are building a business that will result in generational wealth. Got your kids only to have this large company take it once it's built and lie on you. You will have to sue them. That is the only recourse but they are NOT to be trusted.

We're allowed 5 replacements per year living in AZ. They've came out once for an inspection which took forever, they reported to Golden Glass that this is a repair. Golden Glass advised them this needs to be replaced, 3 big divots and two are on driver side obstructing view. Golden glass and myself have requested this be changed on June 22nd. I was told someone will be contacting me to do a 2nd inspection which truly shouldn't need to be done. Besides the point it's now 7/2 and nobody has called. I called this morning and spoke to CS for Safelite and he reviewed the lengthy notes and admitted this should not be taking this long and should be handled immediately. Safelite should be ashamed of their customer service and lack of follow up.

They were determined to be responsible for my medical bills and were awful to deal with. They denied me so many times that I had to hire an attorney. I was already going through so much and they made the experience much worse by being so difficult. I am still fighting them daily. First off I have been with AmFam for 19 years, home and cars. They have always taken care of me. 5 total claims in 19 years on the house. 4 being hail, 1 water damage. They did cover everything. In the last year we got hit hard with hail and 3 claims on the house. Totaled the roof each time along with other damage. Of course we are still trying to get caught up on everything.

So now I get the letter that they are dropping me because of too many claims even though 4 was weather related (like I could control the weather). There should be a law that they cannot drop people due to the weather damage (you can't stop baseball sized hail clocked over 100 mph by CHP.) If you are going to ensure you where that can happen you need to stick it out or pull out of that state altogether forever... So now my house is high risk and second rate insurance with 6 times the deductible that I had. Thanks for reading.

I started my policy online and was assigned to Renee Bolden as a new member of American Family Insurance. During the time I have been a member (of which has been a short time) I never had the opportunity of being welcomed by Ms. Bolden. Each time I called I received no answer. This forced me to contact the 1800 number for assistance often. Unfortunately, for what I needed assistance with required the help of my agent. I contacted Ms. Bolden’s office on April 1st for assistance with hopes of promptly getting what I needed done. Upon my first contact I received no answer and left a message. Before mid day I had not received a return call so I called again, only to get a answer from a assistant who would not allow me the opportunity to express what my needs were.

She constantly over talked me, placed me on speaker while she consulted with Ms. Bolden for assistance and certainty on a process of which was evident that she lacked knowledge of. Ms. Bolden never got on the phone and talked at her assistant of which gave information to me. Ultimately all I needed was a due date change and a request to be entered to ensure my policy would not cancel. While on the phone the assistant told me the request was entered further recapping my contact information to call me back to confirm that policy was held from cancellation. I trusted her word that all business would be handled efficiently and accurately. With that being said I did not call to follow back up until yesterday when I was notified by email that my policy was cancelled.

I immediately called customer service (due to it being after hours and furthermore feeling like my experience was rather unprofessional.) Upon speaking to a representative via customer service I was made aware that no request to stop cancellation was ever put in on 4/1/19 hence the reason my policy cancelled. I was redirected back to the local office for further assistance. I was told that they are the only ones who can request that my policy does not reflect a cancel status. I could not help but to think in my head if they could not get the first part correct how could they achieve the latter part?

Words cannot express the anger, frustration, and disappointment I am experiencing right now knowing that even while my car sits at my home locked and secured it’s currently not covered. As soon as my policy is restored I will be requesting a agent change. This is highly unprofessional and unacceptable especially compared to the high level of service I received when I started the policy. I do not recommend this office at all for business. If there was a option not to select a star I would have gladly chosen it. I’m very dissatisfied.

Had to call into 1-800 number and go through the sales side to find her supervisor's number who ALSO didn't answer her phone. Left a VM. Got a return call saying investigation was closed.

I asked how that was possible since I just received a letter stating that if I disagreed or had more to add (like my entire statement!) that might alter the outcome to call. I hope and pray that we never again get hit by a insured who has American Family Insurance Coverage. The corrupt nightmare started with their insured trying to intimidate my younger daughter into not contacting his insurance. After taking a picture of his license plate before he drove off we were able to have my daughter drive 2 hours to the police district office to file an accident report. Once the Milwaukee District police took their time in hunting down the insured they provided us with a police report.

Once my husband and I obtained that we contacted American Family to file a claim and inform them that we already had a reputable and trusted body shop where we dropped the car off to get repaired while we were leaving town back in July of 2018. We informed American Family and sent them the formal estimate and told American Family to pay the body shop direct. This is where the second nightmare and corruption that is rapid in the company and so ingrained in everyone you talk with...

American Family sent their inexperienced, ignorant about high end car repairs to the body shop and told them to lower their hourly labor amount they pay their employees because that is not the contracted rate they have with other body shops they give all their work to. The estimator also told the body shop he had to use second hand parts and not to replace all the bumper but instead pound out part of it. This estimator was out of touch with reality. She then left a message on our voicemail that her decision was final and she was leaving town for a family issue and could not be reached.

Upon getting that insane voicemail message my husband and I tried to talk with higher level management which were Mr. Tom **, Mr. Ben ** who told me that American Family’s philosophy is to quickly repair your car, (Not Properly with the best and new parts), take oversight over the job, (which actually means they call or visit the body shop and negotiate your car repairs to fit their dollar allocation).

Follow industry standards (which really means get you to take your car to their contracted body shops or they do not pay the entire repair estimate amount), leverage these repairs, (which really means they try to shove down your throat that Gerber Glass Repair shop is a reputable body shop to do matching die lot paint repair on your car) and says they warranty the body shops work (which means that when your paint job and clear coat does not match the rest of your car you can keep fighting with the body shop to repaint your entire car which will never happen and the value of your car plummeted and will not even be bought by a wholesaler of used cars).

None of these nightmares which is the main business model of American Family on their website too would be a problem if they let the person who was not at fault choose the body shop they know and trust to do the work. American Family even tried to get us to accept a several hundred dollar lower estimate by sending the check to me instead of the body shop. They are so corrupt and ignorant that I had to inform them that you cannot send a check for repairs to the nonregistered owner on the vehicle’s title. They then issued a new check under my husband's name but still would not pay the body shop the car was at.

After more intense telephone conversations with upper management that led to not paying the estimated bill I contacted body shops across the country and asked what their rate would be if I had a bumper and trunk damage to my car that needed repair and the first question they asked me was who was the insurance company that was going to pay the repairs at which time he pulled out his contract with that insurance company and quoted their rates and repair policies for your car. Not the best practices to fix your car but the cheapest way to fix your car because that is all that American Family will pay them. THIS IS PRICE GOUGING AND MARKET MONOPOLY IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY.

My husband and I tried to talk common sense to the following list of American Family Employees who in our opinions should not have their jobs anymore. Ben ** even told me to go out and get more estimates and then send them to him at ** and then he would have Michael ** and Julie ** (his claim adjusters, which they call Auto Physical Damage Team) call that shop and renegotiate my estimate. When I said that was illegal he gave me his private email listed above and said to deal with him “directly”. Jessica ** was part of this scam.

Mr. Tom ** was also part of the management team who pushed us onto Ben **. You can reach these people at ** (no one gives out their direct extensions or telephone numbers because they do not want you to contact them). I only got these because I told them I was aware of the scam on how they pay out claims and force people to take their cars to their contracted body shops who they agree to feed so much business to during the contracted terms.

Their Auto Physical Damage Team tried to tell us that the lower part of the bumper was “repairable” and the upper part was needing a new part which comes in unpainted and wanted my husband and I to agree to their lower estimate to have 3 different paint colors on the final repair job. Upper management even had the audacity to tell my husband and I that our Volvo was not a high end car and therefore they were not going to pay the labor rates of $80.00 per hour for an experienced body shop repair specialist who works on Lamborghini’s etc. to work on my car because the insurance industry already regulated that body shops can only pay their repair specialists at the most $50.00 an hour.

Which means your car could be painted by a new guy who is just being paid way less than $50.00 an hour. He does not have the skill or been trained by the experts at “private” body shops who value their employees and the work they do. So sad that not even Shana ** at American Family’s Consumer Affairs Department cared about my husband’s vehicle, how we were being treated or followed up on the end of our experience. She can be reached at **.

The claims department took a very long time and at first did not want to accept responsibility for the claim. So my insurance company had to take over and allow me to get my car in for repairs while American Family took nearly three weeks to resolve issues on their end. From day one their insured was calling them to get things resolved and they kept dropping the ball. The person, Patty, who was in charge of the claim was never in her office, so you'd have to speak with another agent and they would make notes. It was horrible. Then when I finally got Patty on the phone she tried to tell me I needed to get three quotes before I could take my car in for repairs and that they would not cover a rental car. I told her I was not taking my car for three quotes, that it was already at the shop and I had a rental car. She then backed down and said no worries.

I then filed a diminished value claim. I had made two phone calls and they said don't worry that the file was pending in a different department. Weeks have gone by and I've not heard one word. I called today and was told there was no diminished value claim, that they see my phone call where I wanted to file one but the person who took the call did not submit the information, so now the process starts all over. I do not recommend using this company at all. They are not professional and lack in accountability and customer service. They are horrible to be honest.

We are currently dealing with American Family. Their insured hit our vehicle, which is used for our self-employment purposes, almost head on in a work zone. Their insured was told to drive on the opposite side of the road with the road construction. There were flaggers on both ends, but in the middle of it there are a lot of driveways and side roads that vehicles come out of and drivers need to be alert and pay attention to both construction vehicles, construction workers and other vehicles or people that come from the side roads and driveways. When my husband saw her, she was not looking up, she was looking down. She had several cars in back of her that saw my husband. My husband pulled over to the side and went as far off the road as he safely could and stopped. She RAN into the front of him. Her eyes did not come up from whatever she was looking down at until she hit him.

We made the mistake of updating our business vehicle to a pretty nice vehicle from an old van that was not worth having full coverage on. Well we didn't realize that we just swapped out the vehicles on the policy and we never added full coverage on ours. Which should not matter in this case, because she was given a ticket for inattentive driving and her insurance liability should take care of it. Needless to say, American Family is giving us the runaround. We are losing money every day with extra time and trips back and forth from home and stores to buy items that are not available in my husband's truck. He tries to remember everything he needs, but his rolling hardware store is not with him. We are losing money every single day.

My husband got whiplash - we do have medical pay on our policy, which we may have to use because American Family is jerking us around. There literally should not be a question on this, but they are holding out and making us wait. We will end up getting an attorney if they don't accept 100% liability and we will take the woman that hit my husband to small claims court for whatever American Family did not cover. If they don't cover anything, what is liability coverage even for with American Family? I have already filed a complaint with our state's Office of Commissioner of Insurance. DO NOT CHOOSE AMERICAN FAMILY FOR YOUR INSURANCE NEEDS.

I have had AmFam for over 10 years. Never had an issue until the past year. I had my first accident and they tried to lowball me on value of my vehicle. The claims adjuster stated various reasons that the value was lower. One was that there was oil on the engine... I had just been in a head on collision. Another reason was that the inside interior was dirty... My dog had torn a stick up inside the vehicle the previous day. Ridiculous. They then found comparable vehicles that were way underpriced because they weren't comparable. The years were older, the miles were over 100,000. I had to go back and forth with them and then speak to a supervisor or a senior analyst.

Now, our rates go up sporadically because "the rates in Missouri went up". This is actually what they tell us. We get a statement for one price then we find out it is another price. What is the reason??? Our agent says one thing... The 1-800 # says another thing. I have been trying to get new insurance but now other companies don't want to cover us because we have used our Roadside Assistance. So if you use the Roadside Assistance that you pay for every month, then other companies feel like you are a risk.

June of 2018 I was rear-ended while on the highway by some kid with a permit (in traffic no less) and was caught in the middle of a three-car accident. My car took the most damage, and I was very clearly not at fault. The kid was not covered, so my insurance was to pay for all expenses.

I am not learned in the ways of insurance, so I thought everything would be simple enough with compliance and professionalism. Not the case at all. Now I know why people leave reviews of crappy experiences, this is literally the worst insurance experience I’ve ever had. AmFam seemed to be competent at first, then a week went by with no update, after I called they explained to me once the car was in shop it’s ‘basically out of their hands. Translate=LAZINESS and extreme incompetence.

The adjustor went back and forth THREE times to determine if my car would be totaled or not, meanwhile sending me in a frenzy for asking for rides because I thought I wouldn’t need a rental, then conflicts coming up leaving me car-less, then finally deciding I needed a rental because bonus, I was moving in a three WEEKS. I made sure to let every person I spoke with know this was a very time sensitive issue for me so there could be no delays and please do everything you can to speed the process along.

Two WEEKS later, they were still deciding whether they would total my car, no calls from them, I always had to be the one to call, and I got my rental with the idea that I gave them the insurance code to connect it with my claim, but my information never came up. I figured I’d pay out of pocket and have them reimburse me (again, not learned in the ways of insurance procedure). The only people who were able and competent in this whole ordeal was the repair shop who was holding my car—whom I chose by the way, not my insurance.

Flash forward another week and I have moved across state lines and my insurance finally decides it’ll be a total. At this point, I’m pissed because I’ve had to call so many times and no one was keeping me involved in anything. This left me to ask so many favours of my poor sister because I had left, just to try and close out this claim. Eventually I called to complain and the agent I was assigned was completely unprofessional and flat out RUDE to me, making it seem like I was at fault for feeling ill treated and concerned? She was terrible to the point I wanted to be assigned someone else.

Anyway, after literally MONTHS of waiting (THREE to be exact), my lease was finally paid off to the bank—after I was charged a late fee for not knowing whether my lease was still active and my credit report taking a hit. But NOW they’re saying they ‘cannot find’ any date on my rental, they’ve ‘searched far and wide’ and can’t find me. I just called the rental co and they found me in about a minute. Absolutely incompetent and disgusting service, DO NOT sign with them. I’ve never been more pleased to be rid of anything in my life.

After having my FINANCED vehicle for about 1.5 years (to which I was under the impression I had full coverage on, because that's what my agent sent the dealership prior to me driving off the lot, because, you know, that's the LAW), I got a crack in my windshield so I called to find out what my comp deductible was. Once the agent pulled my account info, she informed me that I only had liability. UMMM what? I informed her my car was financed and asked her how they would've let me drive off the car lot with just liability.

That is when she informed me that the agent who put together my policy was fired for doing this to other people. She would send a full coverage binder to the dealership, but then reduce coverage without the client's knowledge. So, AmFam was aware she was doing this, fired her, and DIDN'T CONTACT HER OTHER CLIENTS TO INFORM THEM THAT THIS MAY HAVE HAPPENED TO THEM. So, I told her I need full coverage ASAP.

Fast forward a couple months: I'm in a collision. It's ruled my fault (even though the adjuster never took pictures or asked for traffic cam footage). I still only have liability even though at this point, the agency KNEW I had requested a full coverage policy due to their negligence. My car isn't covered and I'm screwed. I filed a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner and AmFam basically responded with "Sorry, can't help" and the Commissioner basically said they can't, either. This is how you conduct business? I'm only in this situation because my policy was changed WITHOUT MY CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE, and they have taken zero accountability.

I was hit on the side by an American Family driver while driving thru a green light. The claims investigator stated that they had to determine fault first so I had to get my insurance involved. Since I did not have rental coverage on my insurance I had to borrow a car and it has been 4 weeks now with no communication from AF at all. I had to call my insurance to find out that they admitted fault. I am pretty convinced that they did this so they would not have to pay for rental coverage and that this is pretty standard with them to get out of paying. I also have to pay my $500 deductible first to get my car back after 6 weeks and hopefully my insurance will be able to get my deductible back from AF. Pretty bad!

That it didnt happen that way and that I was a liar. Never in my life have I been treated so horrible. 6 years claim free... When I finally filed a claim I am told I am a fraud??? I took the car to the dealership. It's a year old BMW and they told me to take it to another shop. They did an estimate for $1,612.00, they were instructed to send the estimate and pictures to the AmFam and they did it that day. I called the next day to find out the next step. They told me the claim rep would call the body shop to review the estimate and then would call me back. After a week, they advised me a check was sent to me for $963.00. I called the body shop and discovered AmFam never called them and never called me. I called AmFam back to speak to a supervisor and I never received a call back. I will be contacting an attorney to review my options.

I like the company as a whole, but I think there needs to be some review of how some of the adjusters and claims managers handle claims. I was rear ended by their insured when he failed to brake and follow at an appropriate distance. I stopped because there was someone stopping in front of me, and stopped traffic in front of them. From the start, the adjuster for American Family was very accusatory and made accusations that I had cut their driver off and slammed my brakes for no good reason.

This was before he even gave me a chance to say my side of the story. Probably not even a minute later he was taunting me about something I said, making a snide comment indicating that I did indeed overreact, when that wasn't true. So basically, I stopped for traffic, when I was established in my own lane - the driver admitted this in the police report, yet changed his story later that I came into his lane and immediately braked, and I end up being accused of inattentive driving. Can you believe it? Inattentive driving for stopping behind traffic that stopped. Unbelievable. This is when the police report confirmed my version of events. They claimed traffic was 300 feet away from me, so if it really did stop as I said, it still didn't matter because it wasn't hazard. Yet, according to governmental agencies it is. And it wasn't even 300 feet.

Their insured said there was 300 feet in front of him before I switched into his lane earlier and drove in it sometime - which he admitted and is on the police report, just to reiterate - but it wasn't 300 feet. Even he said traffic was slow and congested, same as me. And he said "I didn't see anybody in front of her for at least 40-50 feet - yet they went by the 300 feet that would get me a lower settlement, never asking him what he meant by this comment, while accusing me multiple times of just overreacting.

They never asked him why he changed his story either, in a way that blamed me - they ignored his dishonesty. They said they agreed that he rear ended me and it wasn't a lane change accident as he claimed, but they wouldn't believe me that traffic stopped in front of me when there was so much evidence that it did. My insurance completely believed me, and yet again and again the manager falsely claimed they were on their side. My insurance confirmed to me that this was not true. The manager also falsely claimed in a letter to me that the adjuster had believed me from the beginning and didn't put liability on me, when that was actually false.

They refused to admit that the letter was dishonest. Worse, the adjuster sent a message to my insurance company claiming that I admitted that traffic was 300 feet ahead, that it only started to slow, and that I admitted to overreacting, none of which was true. They dismissed his false message as "imprecise word choice" and felt no obligation to tell my insurance, which decided not to fight the partial liability on me because they received a lot on my written off car from a junkyard, so the amount was not worth it, unless I wanted them to fight it to clear my name. But the message that the person deciding this meant that they received inaccurate information and they may not have accepted it if they knew he had falsified my statement.

That employee also told me that this adjuster always blamed victims on the claim if there was any possible way to spin it that way (not dead stopped at a red light, I presume) and there was no way he would have accepted full liability no matter what. So basically, he is falsely accusing innocent drivers to get out of paying the claims fairly according to this employee. And it seems true because the adjuster told my own insurance adjuster, a different employee that he was blaming me based on my statement that I admitted to suddenly stopping - this is when I explained that the person directly in front of me suddenly stopped. Completely outrageous and unethical liability assessment.

American Family needs to review this adjuster's claim files! I complained to the commerce department of my state, who recognized that false statements were made, but because of very high standards needed for court, they need very specific proof that the adjuster intended to defraud my insurance by his false statement, as well as a statement from my insurance that they believe he has falsely accused drivers to get out of paying the full cost of their damages. I didn't want to ask the employee who told me that to talk with the commerce department, so unless I do that, which would be difficult because the employee was probably not supposed to tell me that, or get other evidence against this adjuster, they can't do anything.

I am not sure yet if I will file another complaint or not. But that is what is required to reopen the complaint. They would then review the adjuster's claims themselves to see if he sent false messages before or made unfair liability assessments. I always encourage people to go to court to defend themselves and their right to full compensation. The insurance company's word is not the final say and you can fight for your right to proper compensation. Even the investigator at the commerce department agreed that their insured didn't claim traffic was 300 feet in front of me.

I have American Family Insurance for my auto insurance. My overall experience with the process of getting my auto insurance with them was great! I live in a very small town in the middle of the desert so we don't have to wait in lines or anything anywhere. I never spend more than 10 minutes in the DMV. I absolutely love that! I didn't have to wait in any line to set up my auto insurance when I first signed up. The max I spent in the office was 30 minutes. It was easy to sign up and was able to pay without any hassle. It was great.

I like all the features they have. The one I like most is the glass replacement. Living in the middle of the desert we have rocks all over. In the yard instead of grass and most of the roads are loose gravel. They get kicked up into windshields all the time. Nothing like driving down the street and some car peels out and kicks rocks and nicks your windshield. They will replace it that same day and no waiting. I always recommend them to anyone because they do treat you right.

My parents also have the same company for their auto insurance and sometimes they ask me to get life insurance through them every couple of months. No matter how many times I tell them I can't afford it they still ask me over and over. There can be some very pushy salesman out there. They won't give up until they get the sale and it is the only thing I don't like about them. Sometimes I feel like they are doing that to me with the life insurance. I'm a single mom to 3 boys and my youngest is autistic.

Due my agent retiring and the company cancelling my insurance, per their mistake, I did some research and received quotes from other carriers. It turns out that I have been paying more than double over what other carriers charge for the exact same coverage!

In addition, the previous agent had the opportunity to change to American Family's "new system" which would have reduced my monthly payment by $70-85 and refused. Regardless, the gross negligence by the company, over the duration of my time with them is disturbing. Agents for other carriers actually double checked their quotes because they couldn't believe the huge rate difference. I had absolutely no idea this was going on, as I've been with American Family for so long. I cannot properly convey my overwhelming outrage regarding this price gouging, especially to a loyal, long-time customer. The result is that I have overpaid by thousands of dollars and had no idea. I really could have used that money for something much more useful. It's disgusting.

I have been with American Family for almost 10 years. With an accident where a State Farm client was at fault they paid the doctors with no problem through my Med Pay. I thought State Farm was bad, but American Family Claims is REALLY bad when it involves their client being at fault. I was rear ended at a roundabout last November while just sitting there waiting for a vehicle to pass. Secilia in claims was super nice the first time, but then after I left two further messages that she supposedly never got, she said it probably went to voice spam, although it was her voice on the message. Funny how the system immediately recognizes your phone number when you call, and then verifies you through your birthday and zip code...but then went to spam? Then I sent an email with the medical authorization attached, which she also never got.

So I finally waited for another extension and talked to Holly, who said that Secilia usually gets right to her voicemails and emails. She got the next email and confirmed the information, but after they transferred me weeks later to Shawn, he needed the same medical authorization, but this time faxed. Why didn't anyone tell me the first time it was not good enough? Now he says he playing phone tag with my Chiropractor (who has not been paid at all with my med pay since November), but my Chiropractor has not received any messages from him.

They paid my other back doctor right away because it amounted to less than a couple of hundred dollars, but they are giving me the runaround with my chiropractor and massage therapist. It doesn't matter that I've been in a lot more pain and had to go more frequently to the chiropractor now. So they want all of last year's medical records from my chiropractor before they will pay him at this point. Somehow when he sends the bills and records though they don't get them, but then say they received duplicates later when he sends them again. This is the worst service I have ever had in my life. My lawyers told me that out of all of the insurance companies that American Family is the worst to get return calls from. I am seeing this for myself now. I am SO disgusted.

Every call was sent to a stupid recording and I was unable to reach him. I never got a call but my rates doubled the following month. Then on 11/7/2017 I was in a car accident. I called into the claims department and filed my report on about 11/10/2018. It was ran by a third party company that knew nothing about AMFAM policies and procedures. He told me that my agent should contact me shortly. After that accident I never got a call from my insurance agent Michael **. I left him a VM but no return calls. She got information about the claim and reports that she will handle my claim moving forward. During that call I requested that she arrange an agent to come take pictures of my vehicle. She did not complete that request. I took my car to a repair shop and the shop submitted the claims paperwork to them on 12/12/2017.

I received a VM from a the old agent, Scott **, the agent that Mikia replaced, on 12/20/2018 at 9:25am. The call asked if I was filing a claim. I immediately returned the call and got a VM again, I gave Scott ** the information that I had submitted the claims data to Mikia ** on 12/12/2018. After that point I get silence from the company again. The first week in January I leave a VM every day for Mikia ** with no response. I finally call in to AMFAM 1-800 number and ask for a manager to file a complaint. I get a call back on 1/8/2018 from Mikia's manager apologizing for her behavior. Then I get a call back from my original claims guy Scott **. At this point I just want the situation to end so I agree for him to arrange for me to drop my car off at the shop. The adjustor Igor ** reported to me that my vehicle was unsafe and that I needed a rental car. American Family has forced me to drive an unsafe vehicle since 11/6/2017 until 1/9/2018.

I get to the shop to meet the accident adjuster Igor ** who told me my car value was $8000 from internal assessment. I laughed and said it’s worth $5500-6000. He and I get together and on his laptop he sees the value from NADA is $6000. He reported he will look into it and get back to me. I later get an email stating the car's is value is $7057. This is a 2011 Hyundai Elantra with 123000 miles on it not in tip top condition. The damage report to the car was $4274.72. I responded to the agent with the assessed value from Kelley Blue Book at $5,900, NADA at $6000, and true car value at $5,700. Per state law you can total the car if the damage is 65% of the car value.

At this point I ask to speak with a manager and start to speak with Ben ** on 1/15/2018. He refers me to speak to a different manager Dan ** on 1/15/2018. He and I just disagree on the phone. He says the car value is the $7057 and I ask how come 3 independent public agencies are incorrect. He couldn't give me an answer. I then say I want to speak to my Claims Manager Ben ** again. I start to leave him VM. I finally get a call back on 1/25/2018. Yes over a week later and I left VM every day for a week.

We have been talking this last week and I asked him if he could explain the horrible customer service I received. He stated he couldn't. I asked if he could explain why the claim was sent on 12/12/2017 and it wasn't processed until I complained to a manager with return call on 1/8/2018. He couldn't explain that either. I asked what he could do to rectify the situation. He said he could process the claim but that was it. Meanwhile in the past 3 months, American Family deduct from my checking account monthly without fail. The service is horrible!!! They put my life in risk by having me drive an unsafe car while they blatantly ignored my claim.

They initially refused to provide a rental car, also wanting the body shop to paint over the damage without replacing the damaged areas and offering the auto body shop $30 to paint the back end of my car. All of these disputes resulted in delays in getting the car fixed. Then AmFam disputed the car rental bill and the length of time that it took, blaming the auto body shop for the delays when, in fact, the delays were caused by AmFam's ridiculous disputes.

I also had a single medical bill, which they also disputed, accusing the Dr's office of fabricating the bill and said the Dr's office can "eat the bill" because they weren't going to pay it. I had minimal time off work and they disputed paying the lost wages. They disputed the fact that I own a business... How can that be when I have a $4 million business policy with them? Then they audited my business for 2016 and 2017, of which my CPA/tax attorney provided the information that they wanted.

Finally, after 2 months the car, the rental and the Dr. bill are being paid and I am settling for a reduced amount for lost wages, but only because I am sick of dealing with them. Unfortunately, this accident occurred about 10 days prior to a scheduled and unrelated surgery. These people will attempt to harass you and drag things out unnecessarily, trying to get you to settle when they know that you are at a weak moment. All 3 of my policies are due in a week. I spent yesterday getting insurance quotes from other companies and am securing those policies today. I refuse to give AmFam another dime in premiums when they can't even take care of a simple fender bender without harassing me for 2 months.

This company is absolutely by far one of the worst insurance companies when it comes to paying out claims to their customers, and staying in contact with their customers. Agents act as though they have no clue what is going on and want nothing to do with helping you. I had to make all of the phone calls and follow up. Took over 3 months to get a simple theft from our garage claim paid, even with a Police Report Filed, and an estimated list of items taken. Would NEVER in a million years refer this company to anyone.

I was driving to work and a woman insured by American Family did not stop at a stop sign, and entered into the busy major street I was driving on. The speed limit for the major street was 40mph. I attempted to stop, but hit her. Although she was at fault she attempted to blame fault on me for my colliding with her. She was cited by the police officer for failure to stop. I contacted American Family Insurance as well as my own. Initially I went to work, following reporting the accident. While at work I developed some symptoms I thought I'd better have checked out, so upon departing work I went to the ER. I advised the ER staff I was involved in a car accident and they accepted my car insurance information and my health information.

I received a call the next day from an adjuster, who offered me an extremely low amount for my vehicle, stating it was totaled. He told me that if my counter offer was not within $100 of his offer not to bother calling him. Whenever I attempted to call him, the call went straight to voicemail. He also asked me if there was any other way I could have avoided the accident other than applying my brakes, leaving skid marks, and attempting to swerve. He asked couldn't I have honked my horn. I contacted the State Insurance Commissioner. I wasn't offered a rental car, initially, even after expressing that my job was quite a distance away. I paid a co-worker to take me to work, and walked 2 miles to the nearest bus stop to ride the transit home in the evenings.

When I was finally offered the rental car, for one day, I would have been required to pay for the insurance on the rental car, which was more than American Family was to pay to rent the car. I refused the rental car and walked home. I paid from my own pocket to have my vehicle made drivable, so not to lose my job. Because American Family was not cooperating at all. I contacted an attorney. Unknown to me the attorney had previously worked for insurance companies. The attorney's office lost many of my medical records, and stated that the medical deductibles I had paid were not to be reimbursed. He did however calculate the sum of PIP that was to be repaid to my insurance company and the amount that was to be repaid to my personal insurance.

The attorney began negotiations with the American Family Adjuster. He didn't seem at all concerned that I wouldn't receive enough to repay my personal medical insurance company or be reimbursed for my expenses. When I confronted him about losing my medical record totals; my not being reimbursed for my deductibles and his false statement about there not being a raise in the property claim, he dropped my case and put an attorney's lien on any judgment. I learned that the losing of medical records and the dropping of clients case before completion was "a less than honorable tactic" performed by that attorney's office, on a regular basis, and that office had been disciplined for such tactics. No other attorney would consider taking the case following that.

American Family switched the injury adjuster. She pretended not to have received any figures of what American Family needed to pay, and offered me an amount of which I would not be able to repay my personal insurance if I retained the amount I spent for medical deductions, etc. This went on for almost 2 years. On the last date prior to the Statute of Limitation expiration, the adjuster and her supervisor went on vacation, and left no other adjuster with authorization to settle my claim. By this time I had moved from the city of the accident. I drove to the city of the accident and filed a civil suit, paying court fees, summon fees, etc. The case was was not treated seriously and was immediately dismissed.

I filed an appeal document but did not pay the appeals court fees. The case was dismissed. A year after the case was dismissed I learned that my insurance company had filed a subrogation lien against American Family and had been reimbursed for the PIP they paid. My insurance company stated the reimbursement was done on my behalf, and American Family reported that the reimbursement was paid to me. My personal medical insurance contacted me and stated they wanted the amount they had paid reimbursed from the amount I had received from American Family. I informed them I had not received any judgment or award.

My personal medical insurance stated that American Family Insurance had reported that I received a settlement, and they would legal recourse to regain their funds. I have requested a waiver and appeal of that decision. The American Family adjuster sent me a letter stating that I should get the funds to repay my personal medical insurance from my auto insurance. My auto insurance says they are not repaying my personal medical insurance. I may end up reimbursing my personal medical insurance for an accident which was not my fault.

Other insurance in the area paid. They did pay on my car for hail damage years ago but haven't claimed anything else for awhile. I have combined insurance and will be changing soon. Just got my bill on my new year policy and they raise it by $14 a month but no accidents. Make sure they don't raise your bill if you have never had an accident and make sure you get in writing the reasons they won't do repairs. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying from this company. I hope this reaches someone before making a bad decision and going with this dishonest company. I am a disabled veteran and combat amputee that has been with AmFam for years. I was in an accident 9/26/16 that was caused by an underinsured high school graduate that was cited for speeding, running a red light, wreck-less driving, failing to control his vehicle and the list goes on. Amfam was amazing at first, keyword AT FIRST, they told advice to go to preferred shop in Scottsdale AZ, told me to go to Enterprise and get a rental and told me not to worry about anything. They assured me they had all police reports and other driver admitted fault, they also told me they stood behind their military members. Well it took the shop over 3 months to fix with a repair bill of over $25k.

I didn't mind the wait. I always stood behind them and said not to rush and do it right. My family’s safety is my main concern, but I also asked why they didn't total the truck out. That's when all communication stopped. That question was the turning point. I got a call from Enterprise that the rental had not been paid in over 90 days and had been reported stolen, the preferred shop ended charging me betterment on tires they ruined due to test driving truck and taking to dealership. The air suspension failed and blew out all 4 tires. So now Enterprise charged my credit card $2,500 and shop charged me over $600 on betterment. Well I need to get to VA appts, physical therapy, school, work, my children sports, and family needs so of course I'm going to pay. I had no choice.

Then tires started blowing out and getting extreme wear and tear on the inside camber and a loud popping sound that is audible and you can feel starts happening when you turn steering wheel too sharp. Took it back, the guy has me turn the wheel and hears it and says it’s just breaking in no problem and tires are due to oversize wheels, I explained I never had an issue before he said, “Well our alignment specs say you are good (I never seen these specs).” Later down the road the Chinese parts on a British vehicle failed and I was stranded on side of the road. I brought it in, they dropped me off at Enterprise and wanted me to pay for it, I told them this was their issue. They put a faulty part and I wasn't paying for anything. They left me. I had to walk on one leg and crutches back to the shop which is a few miles away to get back my truck because Enterprise wouldn't rent a car to me due to past history from first 90+ day rental.

I stayed without a car and couldn't make go to my appts or anything else. I WAS ALMOST FIRED while they fixed it. Well guess what happens again a month or so later? Yep the exact same thing. But this time they wouldn't allow me to choose my own shop when it states that if you aren't happy to take wherever you chose to and they will honor it, yea BS!! The adjuster stood me up more than 3x at different shops and I had to cover the bill for using their lift. Finally I was able to get to dealer but again I have to pay betterment on items I didn't damage they did, they even changed left rotor and not right on this SUV. Dealership protocol tells you to change both. I met with adjuster and her supervisor at dealership. Everyone was shocked to hear the way they were talking to me. He even pointed at his American Flag pin and said, “You see I support my military!!”

I looked at him in disgust, anyone can see that what he was doing was not right. He was blaming me for inconveniencing him for being there. They were almost yelling at me. I myself kept my cool and did blow up on them. Afterward my PTSD kicked in and I was just defending myself letting them know I didn't want money or attention. I just want my ** car back! He stated they still had to review again and took months to get back. I had to put 2 new sets of tires. That's 8 tires at 1000 each time, I had to pay for rental, I lost work, appt, kids’ football games, I paid the rental, I paid betterment, I paid shop fees and still I am not after making a profit. They have really screwed a disabled veteran and almost pushed me to the brink of an emotional, physical, and physiological breakdown.

They still haven't put me in a rental and to this date 09/29/17 my truck IS STILL IN THE SHOP NOT FIXED! May god bless the adjuster. I know they get paid very well to be the bad people or at least I hope that is the case. I honestly think they are defending the preferred shop because someone is making money from them from referring and looking other way when people get screwed. My assumption. I hope my car is done soon, whoever from Amfam Admin is looking at this.

We have been American Family customers for a while and liked their low premiums. I was recently rear-ended and the nightmare began. I went to one of their preferred auto body shops to get an initial estimate. The car was driveable and I even asked the auto body shop to confirm it was safe since I drive around my toddler. He said yes. They couldn't get me in for work for a month, but the car was driveable, so I dealt with it.

When I took it in to get the work done, my rental car was waiting for me and I signed to get the repairs going. 3 days later, American Family calls to tell me my car is a total loss. The auto body shop acts as their adjuster, so no one from American Family ever actually looked at my car, plus now, there is suddenly frame damage. I was upset to know that American Family didn't even seem concerned that they let me drive around for a month with a toddler in a car with frame damage.

The settlement offers came in and I got various explanations of what I would receive (taxes, no taxes, actual cash value, etc). On top of that I was told I only had 6 more days with my rental car. Looking online, I couldn't find a car comparable to mine for the payout they were giving me. They said, "Am Fam does not owe you to replace the vehicle, we owe you the actual cash value".

What am I paying you premiums for when I get rear-ended and have to pay additional money to purchase a new car? Just handled poorly and as the person not at fault I had all the inconvenience. I would have hoped they would go to bat for me to get me a fair deal from the other insurance company, but that was not the case. So disappointing.

There is a reason why people tell you never to skimp on insurance. American Family Insurance is the epitome of a sleazy insurance company. My son was rear-ended by a driver insured by AFI, and the driver crunched my son's car up against the car in front of him. My son was not injured one bit because of the car he was in - a Subaru.

The accident was clearly the AFI-insured driver's fault: the driver jumped out of the car and apologized profusely, and when the police wrote up the accident, he openly admitted fault. It took a full ten days for AFI to "gather statements" from the three drivers, and another week for them to send an adjuster out to look at the car. THEN, it was another two weeks until we got their estimate (which we only got because we called and left threatening messages). It took them so long because they were busy figuring out how to cap the claim. They created a bogus 'value' for the car that just so happened to match the 'estimate' they did (by a guy who simply walked around the car parked in the alley). It's all smoke and mirrors. We only got a rental car because we pressed for it.

The $800 difference between the body shop estimate and the amount AFI agreed to pay is now our responsibility because AFI believed the car was totaled: totaled with no engine damage, no transmission damage, and no frame damage. It's a Subaru Outback wagon with only 59k miles on it - a design no longer made and a tank with more thousands and thousands of more miles to go. It was not totaled, at least not at their measly estimated damages. Not to be trusted. These folks are scum.

After a few days I received a message from the other insurance company's claims department but it took several more days and multiple phone calls to get back in touch with them. When I finally reached the proper party he asked me why I was calling (despite the multiple messages referencing their claim number).

He then informed me I was going to be liable for storage and towing fees should my vehicle remain in the original storage yard. He further stated it was my responsibility to "mitigate" their company's costs by moving my vehicle at my own expense. Several more conversations and an escalation of that issue have continued. I obviously disagree that I should have to pay almost $500 out of pocket to "mitigate" American Family's settlement costs when this collision was clearly their policy holder's fault. They continue to stonewall citing lack of an official police report (which is not available as of this date).

I have had only one experience with this company prior and that was settled quickly and efficiently without problems of any kind. This experience has been anything but. At some point I did change the coverage on one of the autos to liability only because it was parked in garage. When she removed the collision coverage, she removed it on the wrong vehicle so when I had an accident I had no coverage on my vehicle that still had a lien on it. It was discovered by the CSR when I called in to report the accident. This woman was awesome and displayed great knowledge and empathy. The good service ends there. After a couple of discussions with the agent, I had enough and called agency owner. My husband was ill and persuaded me that it was wise to have an agent as he was a retired agency owner. He then passed away and I was left with this mess. They saw that the agent made an error so covered the damage but it took 2 months and I had to beg.

I finally demanded an adjuster come and look at it to see that I deserved to have additional repairs reimbursed. But, sadly, although I showed her that we had previously had car rental reimbursement, she did not include. I was to blame for not seeing that. Yes, it wasn't enough that my husband couldn't speak because of a stroke and later died... I was to blame for not babysitting for the agent. American Family sprang into action as soon as I made the phone call about the dishwasher flooding my home. Within one hour, the cleanup crew was there and the next day they came in to find out what was salvageable. My floors and kitchen cabinets were ruined. They and I called in 3 companies for estimates, chose and started the repairs. My agent Michael was great and I'm happy with him and his team.

Two yrs ago in February, I put in a claim for damages to my roof by a storm. I was told that there would be no payout for the claim because my roof was ok. In September of the same yr, when my policy was up for renewal, I received a letter stating that we would not be insured because of the condition of our roof. I reached out to AFI and, discussed this matter with them. I argued with them the fact that, they were contradicting their decision of my roof being ok a few months ago. I then receive a letter that they were reconsidering their decision, the insurance would continue.

In 2016 I again put in a claim because, our roof now has more damage as a result of storms. I was told by AFI that my roof is repairable. I have gotten contractors to come out, all 4 state the roof is not repairable, it needs to be replaced. My issue is that if AFI did something 2 yrs ago, I today would not be having the concern of a shingle flying and hitting someone in the face, or my house having greater damages, as a result of this. My question is!!! Is safety a priority to AFI? I pay insurance for a reason!!!! I am extremely disappointed and will be seeing an attorney soon to help us with this unfair decision. I have been told by employees of AFI that they are known for not replacing roofs even when needed.

The deer was on the side of the road and ran into my vehicle. Apparently, I am supposed to jump over it, or magically fly. This is BS. The customer support is horrible. Too expensive. I called the agency, they apologized, but I ended up having to borrow money since my account was now negative! So now the next month comes around and my bill is higher because now they changed the date to where I previously wanted it, but they are charging me as if I cancelled, very disappointed!! The police report stated his failure to yield and alcohol were the causes of the accident. American Family Insurance has decided that my daughter was partially to blame for the accident. They ask for the police report then when the police report doesn't agree with them they tell me, “We don't go by the police report.”

Have been insured with company 10+ yrs, own 2 homes, 3 cars currently, a boat and a camper all insured thru AM FAM, plus life insurance. 6 yrs ago one homeowners claim, they paid $800 or so out for roof damage then raised my homeowners rates. 3 yrs ago paid $1500 out on a vandalism claim, and in Oct of 2016 a tree limb fell and landed on my camper, causing a water leak, and it took them until January of 2017 to deny claim. Called agent, then 3 weeks went by or so before anyone ever contacted me. Then they changed adjusters.

Had to leave work and meet the adjuster. He told me there's a clause in policy about having it sealed once a year with documentation and I need to take it to one of their preferred body shops for an estimate. They were all over 60 miles away. It's garaged in the winter, carport stored most of the time during the summer... showed impact damage on roof and water damage directly below it. Camper was parked on my insured property when it happened.

Emails and phone calls for months, with only minimal return contact. Sent pictures of the camper in use and luckily one of the ceiling only couple weeks before damage occurred but no one cared, and they just keep referring to this clause about seams being resealed. I have no issue with my agent, his job is to sell it and collect the money, but from there on up the corporate ladder nothing but thieves! Paid them probably $50,000 dollars over 10 years and are going to lose a good paying customer over a $1000 roof repair that I'm sure after 4 months of weather damage will cost me $5000 to fix on my own. Looking for any suggestions on better insurance companies.

At first they seemed very nice and helpful, my claim agent Tigra ** spoke to me once on the phone, and then one email after having me choose a repair company. A helpful man helped me start that process, told me to call back and check in about a week. A week later I called and they said "okay we will mail your check out, give it TWO business days." Today January 17th it has now been SEVEN business days and no check. I have been dealing with these people for 2 months now. So I have been with American Family Insurance for over 5 years. I have paid my insurance every month on time. They insure my home and also two Classic Cars, 3 regular vehicles and a motorcycle. When I started my insurance with American Family Insurance they usually just have you sign paperwork and give them money to start their insurance policy, never feeling the need to go over everything with you when you ask questions. Of course they divert your questions by distracting you with other questions but never really answering your questions. Well about a month ago my fiance, who doesn't drive, doesn't own a car and doesn't see the need to have car insurance of her own, borrowed my car under an emergency situation and a woman ran a dog in the middle of the road and she rear-ended a truck.

The insurance company had no issues. They asked what happened during the accident and said that she needed to be added to my insurance policy. I stated that she doesn't usually drive, it was a one-time thing and they asked if she had car insurance. I said no because she doesn't own a car. They said “ok we will get back to you.” Everything went quiet seemed fine. Well as my luck would have it I got in a motorcycle accident three weeks ago. I have full coverage on my Harley and I'm still making payments on it. This is where the insurance policy gets fun. They waited until my Harley accident to threatened me that if I don't add my fiance to my insurance policy they're going to cancel my insurance. Now mind you she doesn't drive and it was an emergency situation which I have explained to them. They waited until my Harley was in a tow yard to tell me “If you don't add her we're going to cancel your policy.”

When I asked them what gives them a right to do that and why I needed to add her, they informed me that anybody that lives in the household with me needs to be added to my insurance policy just in case an incident like this happens. I asked them why until now did they wait to tell me that when I started my policy and that I also live with four roommates. I did tell them I was not comfortable with the fact that they were trying to force me to do something that they never informed me I had to do five years ago. When she said cancel my policy I sent her a message asking her what the grounds were, why she was doing it and what she needed. Of course she did not answer my question. She just send back the same question "Does your fiance have her own car insurance?" Of course I stated "no she doesn't own a car, why would she have car insurance."

The agent simply states “Here's the underwriters number. You can contact them.” When I asked about my motorcycle she told me the claims guy would be contacting me on Monday. That was two weeks ago. I have not heard anything since. My motorcycle is sitting in a tow yard and the car that my fiance got in an accident, she covered her own medical bills and she paid to get fixed. The only thing that American Family Insurance had to pay for was the other guys truck. What they're telling me now is that he's claiming to be injured. During the accident the guy didn't bother calling the police. He got out of his truck and started calling his insurance company walking around denied any kind of medical help from the fire department and told the police department he was perfectly fine and had no issues. We informed our insurance of this and instead of listening to us they just keep on repeating “You need to add her to your insurance.”

When I asked how much my policy it would go up if I added my fiance to my insurance policy, because of my classic cars, motorcycle and other vehicles l will be paying over $800 a month in insurance which is why I'm pretty sure they want her to be added. American Family Insurance is denying and saying that they did explain this to me that it is common knowledge, everyone knows that all occupants in a home need to be added. Also stating that I also neglected to tell them about my 5 roommates and other occupants of my home. Which is weird that they say that considering the fact that I insured my home through them and had to give them the names and number of occupants in my home in order for them to cover the home insurance.

So knowing the agent did not do his job properly, did not inform me of needing to add anyone to my insurance policy and also to the fact I asked them “If my brother wanted to test drive my vehicle and took it out for a spin and got in an accident with it would you also be making me add him to my insurance policy?” She literally said “Well does he live with you.” So car insurance companies now hold the right to force you to release all information of your life to them before they cover an accident. But they will wait until they have you in a ruff spot so they can deny it. What is the point of insurance companies if they are going to freak out if you have an accident. So when you add people, if they are non driver of your vehicle, you need to have them send in their own car insurance information, their license and all their personal information SSI number etc... to your insurance company to prove that they are not driving your vehicle.

I don't know how many people would be happy to release so much personal information to another person or company they are not affiliated with. American Family Insurance waited until my motorcycle needed to be fixed, which, is an $8,000 claim, that they will cancel not just the one vehicle on my insurance policy but all of my insurance if I do not put my fiance to my insurance policy and pay over $800 a month. I would have no problem adding just one person who drives on a policy that I know would be driving my car at a decent price but adding her will make it go up to $800 a month not including my roommates.

Worst part is they keep treating my fiance like crap over this accident when it's an accident they happen. She shouldn't have to deal with such harassment and hostility or even being threatened to be sued by them over a small accident that everyone has. Why are they going to sue her for the money when they know it's my money anyway. When we get married I will be just as responsible for the cost as she is so why not just cover it now.

I suggested to my agent to call the main office and maybe they could walk him through the process of removing my daughter's car from my policy.

To make a long story short, my policy canceled before he could get her off my, and to make things even worse American Family never offered to reinstate my policy for free, my agent told me that I needed to pay 3- months of premiums in order to reinstate my policy. They also never gave me any time to shop for another insurance company. They notified the financial company that holds the loan to my vehicle, they knew what they cost me and they were taking advantage of the bad situation that they had left me in. I had cancelled a policy on a different vehicle a month before. The agent I was assigned was "out of the country" so I was rerouted to a different agency to reinstate the policy. This was on Sept 17. So I go to register the vehicle and the tag office tells me they don't have proof of insurance. Called the agency and they were unable to electronically send proof of insurance so I paid for 14 days for a car I couldn't even register or drive until the agent decided to come back to the US... Now they're telling me my payment for this month was due 13 days early because my due date was set for the 4th of every month and reinstated my policy on a 17th. WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP!

They also tried to tell me they refunded me my payment to reinstate my policy I made on the 17th of Sept which was why bill was like the way it was which was a bold face lie. Also turned out they never cancelled my car insurance policy for the month of August up to Sept 17th so they were charging me money for a car that I told them to cancel the policy on I wasn't driving and that I didn't even own anymore. Then tried to tell me I owed for that month when I had already cancelled and paid the balance off. Also let them to talk me into renters insurance which they claim covers anything in the home from damage. Yeah right. I'll be cancelling that policy soon. Bill ** expect another call from me! Also told an agent to hold on for me (he was waiting maybe 15 seconds I kid you not). I get back on the phone and the guy puts me on hold! We had a car insurance with "Geico" and paid $380 (my Son drives with a driver license less than 3 years and he is 18) for both cars covered full liability and full tour with $250 deductible. This was the BEST deal around, not ONLY that I consider Geico the BEST company for Customer service as well (very friendly, willing to work with you), but anyway I am not here to write how good Geico is even though I strongly believe they are. I forgot to mention to you (reader) that my Son's car has a "Salvage" Title.

One day I went to my bank and one of the tellers asked me who is my car insurance company, I told her and she said, "Let's just check and see if American Family Insurance would give you a better rate," so long story make short we got on the phone... and after an hour and a half and I am not joking 1.5 on the phone with them, after I told them that Title was Salvage combining Car and Home insurance together they came up with a quote of $320. I was so happy that my Son could save $60 a month because car insurance and gas for the car it's his responsibility. So I went home and all was good till we got a letter from them saying that our car insurance is going up $168.50, because "AutoPay Discount and Paperless Discount was removed," so I called them and they told me that I did not registered for this discounts... BUT the truth is I was told by their agent that I DO NOT have to do anything else.

I gave them all payment information and it's all taken care off. However I said: That the ONLY registration e-mail that I got was for Home Insurance and I did register! And for God Sake how do you RISE my payment by almost $170 a month!!! Later I said, "Ok, send me a link to register!!!" And that was the time where the whole hell broke loose!!! The TRUTH FINALLY CAME OUT!!! They accused me in NOT telling them that one of the cars had a Salvage Title and because of that my insurance went up that much, not ONLY that they do not insure Salvage cars for full tort ONLY Liability!!! WHAT? Did I hear that right???

I asked for a Manager and they got Him on the phone, his name is "David..." and he told me that all calls are monitored and that he will pull up the call and will personally listen to it!!! Also David said that American Family Insurance DOES NOT cover Salvage Titles Cars and that he cannot believe that if I said that from the beginning I was given the quote!!! But anyhow he will get back to me within 24 Hours!!!

I said OK and it was 10/04/2016. Now 72 hours at least later, I had no phone call from them, no explanation... nothing!!! I talked to about 3-4 other people with regular car titles and they had same story as me with this so called Insurance company, this is just SAD!!! In the end I came back to Geico, but this time it cost us $80 more a month!!! Please do not insure with them. THEY WILL TELL YOU ANYTHING YOU WANT TO HEAR AND THEN WILL STICK YOU WITH A BILL (hoping you will not leave them), but the worst part is that it will most likely it will cost you more to come back to your cheaper insurance!!!

My wife's car was rear-ended by a client of American Family. I filed the claim with them, having been told to do so by my own insurer and by the police officer who wrote the report. They said they needed to talk with my wife and left her one message, which she immediately returned. After hearing nothing else for three weeks, I called in order to move the process along in a friendly way. I reached Dave **, the adjuster, who immediately became defensive and blamed her for not returning any of his many phone calls. He then became adversarial and disrespectful of me, wondering why I would think that his client was responsible. I complained to his supervisor, who defended him as a wonderful person. When ** did reach my wife, he was abusive towards her and told her the "claim was out." When behavior like this is supported by the supervisor, it is clear that there is a culture of disrespect.

American Family Insurance has proven to be a dishonest company with questionable business practices that are not even in alignment with their own stated values. In April, I was hit by a distracted driver insured by AF. I continue to fight for a fair settlement while AF minimizes the impact on my life and well-being. It took me weeks and several manager requests before I even got a call back and was connected to an adjuster. The adjuster proceeded to patronize me and outright lie, stating she did not have my phone number. The rest of the process has been just as disingenuous and infuriating.

I will be fighting for a higher settlement than I might have accepted had American Family behaved with class and fairness. It's unfortunate that in a case where law enforcement, witnesses, drivers and common sense all attest that their driver was 100% at fault, we are headed towards litigation. It's a waste of their customer's money, resources and faith. I think American Family is big enough that they probably get away with bullying the little guy far too often. I won't be among that group, but more importantly I wonder why you would want to give your money to a company that conducts itself in this way.

I canceled my Homeowners with American Family after my roof was the only roof around my home that wasn't totaled in a hail storm. Fast forward 4 year. I was driving straight and the light turned yellow as I got to the intersection The American Family customer that turned left on the yellow in front of me is only 90% at fault for making the illegal move. She was ticketed. I was going straight, didn't run the light or break the law, as a matter of fact, I was within the law as I cleared the intersection. Their customer turned left in front of me.

I had no ability to avoid the accident but I did my best not to allow it to be a T-bone collision and minimized the damage. The man who called to take my recorded statement and is the adjust has been incredibly rude on every call. He has reminded me three times now that just because the other party got the ticket and broke the law and caused the accident, that doesn't mean they are liable for all the damages. They have suggested I pay 10% or engage my insurance to pay the balance. That is not acceptable. I'm seeking an attorney.

I have had this insurance for 2 years and in these two years, I have had my policy cancelled twice, without being told. I drove without insurance for months without knowing. Their excuse was, "We sent you letters" and the reason for canceling was non-payment, even though they were supposed to take the money out of my bank account, as originally setup. When I checked with my bank, no attempt had been made to get money out of my account. My account was untouched. This insurance is not only very expensive, but also has people who don't care about their customers. If I had gotten into an accident while I was driving without insurance, I would have had to pay a lot of money out of pocket. If I had been stopped by the police, my car would have been towed. There were no apologies to rectify this and no remorse whatsoever. If you don't want trouble stay away from this insurance company.

So after my automatic payment (always been in place) was taken out, I noticed it was double the actual amount. After contacting my agent, I was told it was an error and they'd correct it. After a few days, I was sent a voicemail stating we were good through July. Our first payment won't be due till July.

Then the first week in July I get a notice telling me I'm 3 months behind on my car insurance. Baffled, I called corporate. Found out the double payment they took in May paid my renters insurance in full and they never touched my auto. Now who gave that kind of permission??? Next I find out that my husband is no longer a named insured. And again who gave permission??? I'm at my wits end with this shady company. Don't waste your time or money.

I was involved in a accident in April 2016 and Stephanie's Assistant told me it was my place to call the police and get all the information. The police told me that they would not give me the information, it is up to the insurance company to do their job. I ended up getting my report on my own and dealt with Allstate Insurance myself. I have to say I would give them 5 Stars. They took care of me like I was one of their own. Now it is June 2016 and I changed insurance companies due to the unprofessionalism of Stephanie Wendrick's Agency. They are that bad!! Not only does she argue with her customers, but she shows her assistants how to argue with the customers. Very unprofessional!!

My son should only have one accident on his record and now he has three because they claimed the one twice and another one which was not his fault, she told me not to claim it because it was on private property and he drives an older car. Well, the other people made a claim and got 1,503.00 without the agency even getting our side of the story and didn't even know this happened until 20 months later when we changed insurance companies. For your sake please check around with other insurance companies and you will get much better Customer Service from other insurance companies!! I would recommend State Farm or Allstate. First of all, this is the worst insurance company ever. Would not recommend it. My wheels were stolen on 6/2/16 and I called the insurance to see if my wheels were covered by them and they said yes. A day later the adjuster came to my house to look at the damages and I was given an estimate for $1,300 but on that estimate they gave me the price for RECYCLED wheels $232 and the wrong size and model of my wheels, brand new cost $1500 each. Then I wasn't happy of course.

I called them back and ask why I was given this estimate with recycled wheels in it. They did fixed it but AGAIN the prices were off and they gave me tires 18" but wheels 19." Now how in the world am I gonna mount 18' tires on 19' wheels? I called the wheel company where they got the prices from and I was told that the price for my wheels is $520, not $232. I emailed them back and asked why the prices don't match and told them to fix the prices on tires since they don't know about sizes.

They fixed the prices but I was only given $200 more. I was not satisfied with the estimate and I was told to go to Mazda Dealership and get a quote on brand new wheels and tires. The estimate Mazda gave me was for $8000, now the questions is: Are they trying to rob me? Why are they giving me $1,500? There's a huge difference from $1,500 to $8,000. It's been a week now and I'm still not satisfied with the service this company has given me. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS "COMPANY."

My wife had been a customer of AFI for 7 years before we met. When we got married, we switched my insurance to AFI and we have been good customers. There has never been a late payment in a total of 15 years. We insured two cars and our home through them during that time. During that 15 years, we cost them within a few hundred dollars of $6000.00 to provide us with insurance. We used the tow service, got hit by a deer, and I ran into a parked car one morning hurrying to a meeting. In that time, they received approximately, $27000.00 from my wife and I.

They listed my recent accident as the reason to discontinue my insurance. For some reason, they discontinued my wife's insurance as well. I read positive reviews that stated that AFI had stayed with other customers through worse for longer. The other reason that they canceled me and my wife is that they claim that they can't get my driving record. I gave them my id number on the phone twice and all information they asked for. It's also a matter of public record. That leads me to believe that they filed their request for my driving record with an error. They are using my middle name on the attached document instead of the one that is on my driver's license. They did not contact me to clear up the issue of the driver's record being unavailable. Possibly, they made the decision because they failed getting my name right. An error they could have cleared up with a phone call.

Next, my wife and I had full coverage. We did not opt on this claim to have AFI pay for my cars repairs. The value of my cars repairs would be less than the repairs would cost. It would have cost the company needlessly as the damage was minor but expensive. Had we opted to have the repairs to my vehicle done, AFI would have been charged a few thousand for the auto body work to replace the bumper, we would have been out half of that, and we would have a few scratches removed. Didn't seem right to charge the company that for my mistake and my car is worth a few hundred dollars more.

In my opinion they are untrustworthy to keep their end of the deal. They are probably a good company except for in the business of insurance. If you want to have a higher chance for an insurance company that is trustworthy you have lots of options. American Family Insurance is currently 15th of customer satisfaction on a list that includes 20 other companies according to insure.com as of April 21st, 2016. We are canceling our home insurance through them.

The mother was the owner of the car and son who is 17 took the car without her knowledge. But still make the owner responsible. I have two kids myself and I always made sure we had insurance on any car they drove, and if they drove our car and were involved in an accident we know as parents we are totally responsible.

We have State Farm and have been with them 26 years and never had we had to go through the hoops like we are going through with American Family. They are crooked and do not return calls. The agent we have been dealing with keeps telling us they have to talk to the driver. It has been 2 months now and they still have not been able to talk to the driver and dragging us on. Turns out that they decided to put me down for full coverage and high coverage when it wasn't what I asked for. My car is crappy, trust me... nobody would think about full coverage for that thing. My parents were also with me and know I said "just liability". I also got screwed paying a year of renters insurance when I was living with my parents. At least they are doing right by him and reimbursing that money back, but it never would have even been caught if we didn't have to figure my situation out. They said they wanted to make it right, but when I went in there I felt like they were blaming me and the agent but not the company itself. There is no confusion, I was simply never told that it was a requirement of American Family to have a dual policy, as in renter insurance on a home I do not own in order to receive auto insurance from your company *American Family*. When I decided to give your company *American Family* another chance I was told that things were going to be better this time around than the last time I had auto insurance with your company.

The first time I had auto insurance with you @ $104 monthly and nothing has changed but it's now $130 monthly even though I was quoted $80-$100. (I was never told at any time either when I was first with the company and David was my agent at the Sunshine office in Springfield, Missouri nor the months prior in which I had multiple in office meetings, emails, and phone conferences with Jennifer/Jessica before signing another new contract with your company *American Family* again that I had to have a dual policy or that I had to be married).

First time my policy was canceled because I was not married even though I had told him (David) the insurance agent I was not nor have I ever been married. And after 6 months and no late fees with your company and no inkling anything was wrong *American Family* dropped my auto insurance policy the same day I made a payment at the Sunshine office in Springfield, Missouri.

I remember this because I went straight to JD Byrider to pay my car payment after I left American Family and I was told that I had no insurance... Confused as I just paid them but Dustin the manager of the car dealership kindly called on my behalf to find out what was going on (with it on speaker phone). We were told by David the insurance was being dropped because he had marked me as being married and they *American Family* had assumed I would of gotten married within a few months of up tainting insurance... I never said that... But David also said in order to keep my insurance policy that the rate was increased to $170 and since they didn't think I would want to pay the new balance my policy was canceled without even giving me the option to stay...

Still makes no sense honestly as I do not find it anywhere that in order to have auto insurance a person has to be legally married though I wasn't told through your agency nor did I ever receive a letter but I do have a witness as Dustin was as confused as I still am... That's why I started paying just for comp and collision from JD Byrider until I could get full coverage again.

This is the second time now that I have attempted to go through American Family and I was quoted $80-100 a month the day I was in the Primrose office and spoke to Jennifer. So I made arrangements to meet Jessica that night since Jennifer would not be there and explained that we would be there a few minutes late because Brandon my boyfriend of 12 yrs (not my husband) gets off work at 4:15pm then has to come to Nixa from the other side of Springfield near Willard to pick me up to be at the insurance and she agreed. But when we got there at 10 after they were closed and since it was Friday we had to wait 'til the following Monday. So Brandon had to take unpaid time off work to get there in time so that we could then get insurance only to find out to get my car insured the rate was now $130 monthly, not the amount we had originally agreed upon the auto insurance.

It was never brought up that I had to have a dual policy in order to receive car insurance. In fact the only time it was ever mentioned was when I asked Jessica for a quote on *renters (not homeowners) insurance as we rent (not own) our home* and because we had just moved into a trailer and have never lived in one before. I wanted to know what all would be covered so that down the road when we are in a better financial place I wanted to add that to my policy.

Again I was never told by either Jessica or Jennifer that I had to have a dual policy in order to receive auto insurance and that I also have to have renters insurance. Until I made the mistake of asking for a renters quote that day no one ever mentioned it... So today January 31st 2016 when I was reading my emails I was shocked to see one from *American Family* saying that again my auto insurance is being cancelled because I don't have a dual policy...

I have not even got my first bill yet and I'm getting canceled? That in order to keep my auto insurance I must also have renters insurance even though I DO NOT own my home as I can't have one without the other or at least that's what the email said. And also in the email it was clearly stated that if I do not get renters insurance then they will be transferring my policy to THE General and I can expect to pay 100% more than what I'm already paying... I called who I thought was the main company but it was American Family headquarters in Massachusetts I believe and as I explained what was going on the gentleman even seemed to be unsettled but said there was nothing he could do except send them a note explaining my situation as he cannot see my policy.

Back on December 8th, I was t-boned by one of their drivers. They waited until December 22nd before sending one of their agents out to appraise the damage on my vehicle. They refused to let me take it to an auto body shop for appraisal. They wrote me a check for $1,700 on the spot. I knew this was not enough so I drop my car off at an auto body shop on December 23rd for a proper damage inspection and repairs. On December 29th, Brian ** from American family told me my car was totaled. It was $5,100 to fix my car and American family would only pay $4,800. Brian also told me that American family would only cover a rental car for 3 days! 3 days is an absurd amount of time to only cover a rental car. I was out of town so I picked up the rental on January 2nd and returned it on January 4th when I purchased another vehicle.

January 5th I informed Brian ** that I would agree to the total loss and they could pick up my totaled vehicle and I inquired about the check for my vehicle. Brian told me to either mail my title into American family or drive down and sign over my title and they would give me my check. I could not find my title so I had a duplicate title mailed to me. I Informed Brian that I would need a duplicate title on January 12th. Received my title and called American family on January 18th to arrange for the title transfer and to pick up my check. When I spoke with Barbara, she informed me that Brian had not completed his total loss worksheet and she would not be able to cut me a check or send a check to the lien holder on my damaged vehicle until Brian completed his part. I called Brian on January 18th and still have not heard anything back. It has been a total of 2 weeks since I agreed to the total loss of my vehicle.

If I did not have excellent credit and money saved in my bank account, I would not have been able to purchase a vehicle. That would have been over two weeks that I would not have been able to make it to work because American Family refused to cover a rental car for more than 3 days. I feel like American Family Insurance is playing games with me and I do not appreciate it. It was their driver that hit me. I now have to pay my lien holder on the damaged vehicle so I am not charged any fees and to keep my credit in good standing as well as, pay for the car payment for my new car. It has been a month and a half and they still have not taken care of my claim. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. Thank God I have progressive!

I have been with this company for almost 13 yrs and have not had any major claims besides a couple windshield replacements due to rock chips. I have ALWAYS paid my premiums on time and notified them immediately of any changes. But for the first time I had a major claim due to a tree falling on my car. When I called to make the claim, they told me I didn't have insurance on the car that was damaged. They said I had called and told them I sold the vehicle and replaced the policy with another vehicle. They inaccurately noted what I had asked them to do over the phone. I had asked them to ADD a vehicle we purchased on to our policy. They made an obvious mistake, we still possess the vehicle so we obviously didn't sell it. They did not send any notice to me that the vehicle was taken off the policy. They said the damaged vehicle was uninsured the last 14 months!

I was astonished that I could be driving my FAMILY around in this uninsured vehicle for that long! They will not accept any responsibility for their mistake. So much for customer loyalty! My recommendation is to make any changes to your policy in writing. I didn't this last 13 yrs and they really messed me over on this major repair. Since I trusted them to accurately note the changes I have no evidence in writing. My customer loyalty wasn't enough. They weren't there when I needed them most, which is what a consumer wants in a car insurance.

I have been with American Family Insurance for about 20 years. They treat me like a person and not just a customer. They remember my name. They treat me respectfully and courteously. When I have questions about anything they are always helpful. When I visit their office, I feel almost like I am visiting a friend instead of a business. I have never had an accident so I've never had to file a claim but I'm sure if I did, they'd treat me same as always. I would and do recommend them to anyone.

Haven't had to file any auto claims, but did purchase and sell some real estate recently. Had issues with Am Fam cancelling homeowner's policy on the wrong property and it took several calls and emails to get that fixed. Also took several calls and written requests to get them to change our mailing address for our policies.

I like that I can go by the office and pay my bill with a person instead of paying online. There is also an option to pay online, which is great in case I don't want to leave the house. I also like that I can call and talk to my insurance agent if necessary. I like that I also get frequent updates by mail and holiday cards from my agent around the holidays.

Have been a loyal AmFam customer for over 10yrs with homeowners and 3 vehicles and never a claim. New company contracted with agent decided to randomly check my house and saw a Beware of Dog sign on the gate as suggested by my previous insurer and told me that my pet had to be reviewed and was determined to be on the unacceptable list. Worst customer service ever and have received letters increasing my premiums 11% and telling me that I could go to another agent in AmFam but this agent had to cancel me because of the dog and home inspection company. It has been made very clear to me that my 15yr + business is not appreciated at AmFam and NOTHING was done to retain my business or review my complaint. Happy to pay more to another company for service. I am so disappointed in this company.

Both of our children had accidents and we had to turn in claims. They came out right away and did the estimates and we had no problem getting them to pay the claims. We have also compared our coverage that we have with American Family to other insurance companies and their prices are the cheapest with the same value of coverage. Our agent is very good. She comes out to our house on a yearly basis and goes over the coverage we have and reviews it with us. Our son works for a car dealership and he also said that the claims put in with American Family insurance are some of the fastest claims paid. When our children got out on their own, they both kept American Family with different agents of course because they live in different parts of the country.
