So far, I've used American Home Shield three times. The oven on my stove went out and the whole stove ended up having to get replaced. They gave me some money to have the old stove removed, but they wouldn't pay the full amount that was being asked. So I had to pay a little bit there. Back in June, I put in a claim for my AC because it wasn't working. So, that's still ongoing. The contractors ended up replacing some parts. It still didn't work. They ended up putting a whole heat pump outside on the unit. Then they had gotten a coil through American Home Shield that was too big it wouldn't work. So, that's been the holdup ever since that happened. The contractors have found a new coil, but they're still going back and forth with American Home Shield to work out the details. I was on the phone with American Home Shield this morning. I had to call three times.
I called once and was telling them, “Hey, I don't have any heat.” They kept saying it was the AC unit. I said, “Well, that AC unit is tied to my heat. I have no heat in my house. I need heat.” So, she put me on hold for a little bit. Then there was a click, and it sounded like the click for coming back online but there was nobody there. All I was hearing was my own voice echoing. So, I had to hang up there. I called back again and got somebody else. It was the same thing. I got put on hold, and then the music went away, and then nobody was there again. So, I called back a third time and got a different person. Right up front, I told him, “Hey, this is the third time I've called.” I gave him all the information that the first two people were asking for. I told him, "I need to get this resolved." He ended up saying it's been moved up to a supervisor and the supervisor would be getting with the contractor, and it'll get worked out.
I'm gonna call the contractor here pretty soon. I think he was trying to get ahold of the contractor. I'm in Oregon, and they're on the East Coast. I don't think their office was open yet. He said, "Well, it's Veterans Day and they might be closed." He said they may not get ahold of them until Monday. I'm gonna call them this morning. I'm pretty sure they're open, and then they can get back ahold of American Home Shield. This process has taken quite a while for the AC unit, but it’s getting taken care of.

The tech from Hein Sight Construction was great both times. The first time he came out, he did a thorough assessment. I also pointed out a problem that he wasn't aware of. He said he would see if the parts were under coverage and try to order them. He got all the parts ordered and texted me when they were ready. Then they set up an appointment. He came back out, still professional, did the work and cleaned up after himself. He was perfect. He put his little booties on over his boots.
With Hein Sight, I would definitely recommend it to friends. But originally, AHS had set me up with someone else that never came and never called. I paid for it. To get a new technician out, they made me make another payment, even though the other one wouldn't be refunded for so many days. It was the craziest experience ever. In the beginning, I was very unhappy because they kept transferring me around. My thing was if you have the service call fee, why would I have to give it to you twice to send someone else out when you're still doing the same service call? He said, “Because the guy canceled.” They were telling me because he didn't come out, I gotta have $250 on my money until I get the other 125 refunded. That makes no sense in my world.

I did a claim for my washing machine, and it was easy. The techs were knowledgeable too. The first one was able to diagnose the issue and ordered the parts, then once the parts came, the second guy came and fixed the issue. I haven't had any issues with the washing machine. American Home Shield fixes everything when it breaks. It saves me money versus having to pay for the parts and the labor out of pocket. It's $100 versus how ever much these parts and labor cost.

The dryer was cutting off early. The tech first came out and we thought it was the dryer vent. So, he helped clean up it up. Turned out it was a sensor issue. So, he had to order that part. That came in, and he came in and installed it. Now we're good. We've been using American Home Shield since June. We've had a couple of little things happen. Great experience all around. It's easy to use. Also, I find the site helpful. And the service has a quick turnaround. We've never had to wait more than 48 hours to get something fixed. It's all around reputable and we appreciate it. We plan to renew when the time comes.

Once I've filed that thing with American Home Shield, I got a number to call and I called Street Plumbing and they came over. They were very professional and courteous. They fixed the problem that day. I like that with American Home Shield, I have all the services, and I can book them if I need them and somebody will come. We had a toilet that was running. The techs fixed it up. With AHS, I liked the assurance of a fixed price should something go wrong. Other than that, I've had great service here in Richmond, Virginia.

The service of AHS has been great. We've used them once already. One thing that was upsetting was that we have had different issues with different things with our appliances and we were unaware that we could put more than one issue on our one ticket. They were saying that we could put up to four things on there. But, it's not a big deal. Our microwave broke and now it's fixed. The tech that came out recently was very good with everything.

The AC wasn't working. It took a long time for us to get to the tech. When he came out, the guy was really nice. He wasn’t here very long and he said he'd be back to fix it. He said there was a part they needed to order. But AHS said the claim was closed. I replied back, “How can the claim be closed when he said he'd be back with the part? He said I needed a temporary fix." But AHS has been okay.

In the last two instances I used AHS, the technicians were good. One was a plumbing issue and the other one was an appliance issue. However, AHS could improve, especially off hours, the ability to speak to a representative from American Home Shield that has the authority to make certain things happen. I was calling to schedule the service and the individual I spoke to was like a robot, “I'm sorry, sir. We can't do this. We can only do that. We can only do this.” This was also the third time I had been dealing with the same issue. I would expect someone to be able to say, “Okay, we'll waive the trade service fee.”

I've been an American Home Shield customer for two and a half years, and I have no complaints with the level of service that they provide. Any time I have questions, they’re available at the time that I call. Especially in the evening, when that's the time that I'm able to call due to work schedules. They're prompt. Any of the technicians that they offer for the services that I might need fixed, they're all amazing. The only thing is they were offering a service previously, which was the dryer duct. I've tried to schedule several times. However, there were no technicians in my area so they had to cancel. That would be my new complaint that I would have. Other than that, AHS' customer service and the technicians they send out are amazing. They call before to schedule an appointment. They sent me a text letting me know that the technician was on the way. All of those things are great in my book because it helps me prepare.
The recent specific issue was related to a garage door opener. It appeared that the spring broke. I submitted a claim to have AHS hire Cain to come out and fix it, which they did. Again this year, that same spring that they repaired, broke. So, they came out and repaired it. I submitted the claim online. I filled out the questionnaire as far as what repairs needed to be done. I selected the garage door opener, and AHS recommended Cain again to fix the garage door opener. They're amazing. To fix the situation, they had to replace the spring that broke. The spring on the garage door is an easy fix. It’s just replacing it is the hard part.

The heat element on my dryer went out and the tech repaired it. The part had to be ordered and then he came back and put it back on. The tech was very good so I would recommend him again. He was thorough. I got the emails with regards to when the parts were ordered, which was another thing I liked about American Home Shield as well as tracking the part, which the rep told me would probably be about seven days. But it may have been longer because it was Veterans Day. I try to get American Home Shield to send out the same people that does my maintenance because they're under contract with Myers anyway. They're one of the service providers and they seem to do good with my stuff.

I had claim for my washer and dryer and the contractor did a wonderful job. The tech, Joshua, was very knowledgeable and professional. He was also very quick in what he had to do, meaning he was really good at time management and I appreciate the value of having a seasoned help in his career field, which happened to be repairs. After that, I filed a claim for my refrigerator and now, I'm waiting on a part to come for that. I've had a couple of different warranties and American Home Shield, by far, is better than all of the other ones. The fact that they're honoring what they're saying that they're giving to me, the consumer, makes a big difference for me. And I was grateful that they went on and approved to have the works I needed done. In living in today's world, dealing with people that have some integrity means a lot.

They respond when I call for service. When I contacted them for the first service that I needed, they responded immediately and a contractor was assigned immediately. But I don't know if the pandemic caused me not to get rapid service. I've been waiting for a contractor to call me for the AC tune-up, and it's a week now and no one has been assigned. I'm not too happy with that. Previously, techs came for the dishwasher and the stove but I've been told the parts for those have been ordered and they're waiting.

The service has been good. The only thing I had an issue with was, we had a plumber come to the house, and he checked out the plumbing because I had a faucet that broke. The reason we have insurance is if something breaks, American Home Shield will cover it. If something breaks with a long term abuse, they won't cover it. But I don't see how that could have been long term abuse, as they went to use the faucet and broke it. AHS didn't cover it.
I know how to do plumbing. I could've fixed it myself, but I'm busy. So, I had to pay $100, which is what they will pay somebody to do anyway. You buy the faucet yourself, they charge you $100 to install it quickly. So, I lost that $100, and nothing was done. Somebody came to the house and told me that they don't cover it. We had the dishwasher that went bad, and the dishwasher was a lot of different things. AHS couldn't cover it because it was not something that just happened after I had the insurance. I agree with that one. But with the faucet, I don't agree with it.
AHS told me, "We could send somebody else over to check." But if they come up with the same diagnosis, I will have to pay another $100. I wasn't gonna go through all of that. I already had the faucet changed myself. That was the only problem I had. I'm gonna blame that on the plumber. He wasn't honest with his report. I didn't want the plumber coming back over, because he might have diagnosed it like that because he probably didn't want to complete the work. But the other person that AHS sent over did a great job. He had to come back a couple of times, but he got the problem fixed. He made it sound as if the faucet was tampered with to get the money to fix it.
We also had AHS on the other house. We had a problem with the washer, and the guy has been back and forth five times. The problem was the lid. The first time he came, he had to order something else. He ordered that, but the lid still wouldn't close, so he ordered the whole lid. And he fixed the lid. Something else happened, and he just reset it. He said that if anything else happens to that washing machine, he said that his next recommendation is gonna be to replace the electronics in it.

American Home Shield is quick and efficient. You file a claim and the next minute they've put you in contact with whoever it is that they're gonna have come out. I had 2 separate claims for the washing machine that wasn't filling all the way and the drain that was clogged. On the first claim, they had to order a part. It came in. The repairman replaced quite a few things to fix the washing machine. Then we had done laundry the next day. I filed a new claim because it wasn't draining. The repairman came out and the part was in the truck. The drain pump went. I only paid the 125. If I didn't have American Home Shield, I would have had to pay way more than that to get the washing machine fixed.

American Home Shield gives me peace of mind to get a job done if something went wrong. We've had a couple of calls on our washer/dryer. That vendor is a Sears vendor. They do a good job. Recently, we had a leak in a pipe in a water pipeline to the hot water tank. Tom Melton Plumbing came out and replaced the copper line. They've been out twice, once for a water tank and once for this pipe. For the hot water tank, they've seem to resolve those, but they had some internal people issues that made it a mess. I ended up talking to the owner and he explained to me what was going on.

The guys have been out here about eight times for the furnace. It looks like we're supposed to get a new furnace, and we're hoping it's not going to be the same brand because I don't want the same problem. The tech came back to take measurements. But it has been dragging out for too long with the heat. We also had a claim for the toilet but the 30-day window passed and I had to pay for it again. When the tech came, he got a couple more parts and put that in on the toilet. It was fine. The faucet is working well. American Home Shield is gonna pay for itself, and I can't afford to not have it, seeing as it looks like everything's starting to break. The technicians that came out here have all been wonderful.

I pay on my American Home Shield a monthly thing instead of a solid amount. So, I don't feel that expense so much. Contractors have come out a few years ago to do little repairs for things that we had. They came and fixed a ceiling fan. And we had an electrical problem with something else, and they came out and fixed that. They also came out and fixed the garage door. Everything was taken care of right away.
Mr. D was very nice and did a good job to our double oven. It was declared not repairable, so they offered to replace it. But the item that will fit and that they're offering is out of stock. They offered us a cash buyout of $835. But that would not even pay half of the expense. So, we have to wait until something comes up. They said the manufacturer has got back to them stating that because of COVID, they had laid off a bunch of people, therefore the products were not being made. Now, they said everything is backordered.
It's not their fault that the manufacturer doesn't have anything. If maybe AHS could offer more for us to maybe shop locally for ourselves and pay for the entire thing like they do. Surprise, we do have bigger things going on. Our refrigerator also went out. We've been without a refrigerator now since October 27th. Mr. D also replaced two light bulbs in our range top. That was a simple thing to do, but we couldn't do it. He ordered two new lights for it. The lights came days later and he came over and installed them.
The oven went out first. I called AHS, and three hours before the technician got here for the oven, my husband went to get something out of the refrigerator and things were defrosting. And he said, “The refrigerator’s not working.” So, I called my insurance right back and said we have an additional problem here. They said, “Well, that's another order. So you're gonna have to pay another $125.” I was sorry to hear that, because the technician wasn't even here. But they said it was a different order. So I said okay, and we paid that. And that company came out. They ordered a new compressor. They're returning tomorrow to put it. I have no oven, but hopefully will have a refrigerator. It has expensive buying all that ice.

I like the fact that they will call somebody and I don't have to look around to try and find someone when something breaks. Also, they cover almost everything that I need covered. Sometimes, some of the vendors that American Home Shield picks are not our first choice. Sometimes, their vendors are not as professional as what I would like. But Ed Roberts would always be our first choice for a plumber. We were really, really pleased with them. Our water heater was leaking and nonfunctioning. If you own a home and you don't have American Home Shield, you're an idiot. It’s a very good investment. It's probably gonna go up, inflation and all that. You have to pay a service fee. But the ease of mind that it provides is second to none. My wife could call me now and say, “Hey, something just broke.” And I’d go online and be, “Is it covered?” "Yeah, it's covered.” And AHS will have someone out there the next few days, if not the next day. I like AHS because not only is it a warranty service, but they handle all the footwork. I would say, “Hey, this broke.” And they would have the contractor out there. They would come out and they know what to do, opposed to me doing all the footwork. It's a stress reliever. I told my brother-in-law he needs to get it. He said it's a sham. I said it's not. Will there be years that go past and nothing will happen? Cool. That's awesome. But in the end, if something does happen, you don't wanna freak out.
I thought AHS was a hack. I had my washer went out. The guys came out, but they couldn't fix it. They came out three times. They said, “Dude, there's no way we're fixing this. We're gonna have to get you a new one.” And AHS had one delivered. So, I hope the prices don't go up too much. I plan on staying an AHS member as long as they let me. It’s a sense of security, the fact that when that broke on my garage, instead of panicking and freaking out, I just went online to AHS and the contractor came out promptly and had someone fix it.
The garage door stopped working and the chain popped. Looked like a chain fell off. I didn't know anything about it or what to do with it. So, I submitted a claim to AHS. The guy was prompt, professional, friendly and amazing. He went up there and fixed it very quickly. The sprocket inside the garage door opener snapped off and the tech had to replace it. He knew exactly what was wrong. He said, “We don't have the part on hand or on my truck, so we're gonna have to reschedule.”

When I signed in for the membership, I got the maximum coverage and extra. With my plumbing issue, when the person came, he walked around the house, and I expected him to find the issue without going to the main pipe. He said the insurance will not get it covered. In five minutes, I received a notification that American Home Shield already received the diagnostic. The gentleman hardly spent any time looking for the problem, and in five minutes, I already had the diagnostic? We were waiting for a long time for the contractor to come in because they don't come in the same day or the next day. That was three days that we waited with that issue. And he came in and didn't do anything, but just said that it would cost us $400 out of pocket.
He said that the problem was in the roof. But I didn't agree because I needed for him to look at the other pipes around the house. So, I said, “No, why am I gonna pay $400 for him to do that?” I have a feeling that they wanted to get money from us besides getting it from AHS. I was upset. I said, “No, that is not possible. The previous owners had just finished remodeling a bathroom and they had the hot water and the cold water switched on the valve, so it was constantly putting the wrong water out, which was a problem. Then, they put in a new instant hot water heater but the gas line that they put in was not large enough to support the water heater. So, it takes a long time for the water to get hot. The repair guys were great though they were not able to fix either one of them because they were not covered under the warranty. So, I called American Home Shield and asked them and they said it was the discretion of the plumber and the company. When I called the plumbing company, they said it was up to AHS. It was a mess.
There are certain things that are great about American Home Shield’s claim process but there are other things that is kind of a joke. For example, the motherboard on one of our furnaces went out. So, we weren't getting any heat to a certain part of the home. When I called and made that claim, the guy came out and said that our house is over 5,000 square feet and the furnace was not covered. The home is 5,500 square feet but there are also five different heating and air conditioning units, and that was very known to American Home Shield when we purchased the home, and they were not willing to cover that. So, that was $800 out of our pocket. It would have covered the additional cost of bumping the warranty up.
If we're buying a home that’s 5,500 square feet, then we would want to buy that additional coverage to cover the additional because that doesn't make sense to buy a policy that only covers 5,000. But that was never explained to us. Now, we just have to continue to pay that anytime we want to have something that falls under that kind of category. Customer service-wise, AHS has been great and getting somebody to come out has not been an issue at all. They've been very responsive and quick. Everybody's been very kind and nice.

A tech had to come back a couple of times but that's typical with Home Shield. They use smaller companies that don't really fix the problem. They just keep patching things up. That would be my only complaint. If we can actually fix the problem instead of patching it up every single time, that would stop having to reopen the claims to get service multiple times.
Techs have been here to fix the heater about four or five times over the past year or two. I still believe it's going out. Sunny Breeze was the last company that came out. Each time techs come out, they patch up something. One time, a tech said, “Oh, I put a clamp on it.” That doesn't sound legit to me. That didn't work too and the tech had to come back out. He replaced a couple of other parts. I wish they would say what the real problem is or if we actually just need to replace the whole heater instead of keep patching it up. At this point, the last work that Sunny Breeze did has held firm. It's only been about a couple of weeks but it's fine right now.

But Renegade Electric was wonderful and the tech found the problem. He had all his paraphernalia with him so that he could check everything, and he had to go out and purchase another part that we needed. I would definitely use Renegade again. I would even call them without the American Home Shield. American Home Shield was good up until this last claim. I had to repay another $100. I like their service and that I can immediately go online and request whatever service I need. But it's a bit difficult every time I speak with a service rep. I had a service request and a vendor responded. However, on the day of the service, the vendor wanted to reverify the address. I was driving and tried to do the responsible thing of talk text, and talk text came out incorrectly. When I realized the wrong address was communicated, the vendor cancelled the appointment, and saying, “Okay. You gotta call American Home Shield.”
I called AHS and went round and round just for someone to understand me or listen to my concern as a customer. That was off-putting. Also, with AC service, when their techs have to order parts, it takes almost a month. I wish they would work a bit quicker to get parts for something so dire.

I've had American Home Shield for over 25 years but I'm gonna start looking for a competitor because the price has gotten outrageous. When I first started, I was paying $29 a month and now I pay 78.99 a month. It's the peace of mind that I'm paying for but that's a lot of money that AHS is getting for every person they have. They call and text us for reminders, and whenever the person was coming out, they just text or call if they were on their way. Not having hot water was stressful, but the whole process of calling somebody was not stressful at all. I'm exceptionally disappointed in American Home Shield. Without any kind of written notification at all, they increased my premiums by 30% without giving me any additional service. I had to call and jump through several hoops in order to get payment corrected, which wasn't a big deal, but if you search on the internet, you'll find that they're doing that to everyone. That's exceptionally unfortunate. My sister has an older house, and I have before recommended that she get it. Her price went up 30% with no notification as well.
I called American Home Shield about a plumbing issue and got a tech out from a relatively local company. They came and fixed everything. Great interaction with that company. The guy said, “Hey, you should probably go ahead and get a ticket in on this, too. It's cheaper to do it through this than it is to go through to fix it yourself. You already paid for the service.” So I submitted a ticket and had a different plumbing company come out. That plumbing company said they wouldn't even set foot in my house because my water pressure was too high, and told me everything was wrong on my house, gave me a $1,300 bid and said, “Piss off.” The guy didn't even look at my faucet.
I requested a second visit, and AHS sent someone else from the company I’d used previously. That company looked at it and said, “Yeah. This isn't caused by high water pressure. The root of your problem is these fixtures are old. This just needs to be replaced.” I said, “I'll go ahead and fix it. I'll send in the ticket.” American Home Shield requested a photo of the high water pressure. They took the high water pressure, and instead of fixing it, they now charged me for two service call visits. In addition to my monthly premium of $100, I spent $100 for the first service call when the guy was extraordinarily rude to me and tried to sell me $1,300 worth of crap I don't need. I then had a second opinion come in and say they'll fix it, only to be denied by American Home Shield.
I spent $300 for nothing except wasting my time. I got nothing fixed even though the root of the problem was not high water pressure. At this point, I would never consider or recommend American Home Shield to anybody else. If someone was calling me and telling me they're part of a class action lawsuit against them, I would sign up. As it is, I'm just gonna keep the service until my HVAC system goes out or whatever else happens.

I've had several claims, and they were very easy to submit. American Home Shield has my credit card on file, and they deduct the $75. We bought an older house, and a couple of the toilets, like our last one, we said that the toilet was leaking, and the other one, that it was running constantly. We also had a leak in the seat. They came out for all three issues for one charge of $75, and they were minor things. One of the two toilets that I had worked on, the top wasn't put on properly. The guy said, sometimes, it happens. It gets cranked. I request the same company when it comes to certain things because they're perfect.
I know that other home owners have had somebody besides American Home Shield, and they don't cover anything. I was also skeptical to have American Home Shield. We had it the first year when we bought this home, then we renewed it the second year because they were so great. I honestly never thought a home warranty company would be like this, but American Home Shield and whoever they partner with are just incredible. I get to say, “Hey, can I ask a question about something else?” They're very polite and wonderful to work with. I told them that every time I tried to call back, nobody would answer.
When I called about the refrigerator, that I lost all my groceries, AHS didn't say anything. The tech replaced the motherboard the following week but I had to purchase groceries three times and throw them out because I would come to work and I didn't know that our refrigerator would let off the breaker. I would come home late at night and the food was all defrosted and sitting there for that long of period of time. It was in October, so it was hot. The tech told me to disconnect the electrical outlet and recommended to run an extension from the refrigerator to a different outlet. Also, the refrigerator was super loud so, I complained to AHS and they said that I will have to do another claim and pay an additional $100 fee so they can check the electrical. I've used American Home Shield for years now, back in Illinois when I used to live there in my house. I called in work through them, and all the contractors are nice. I can ask them questions and they'll help me out. Especially if it comes to maintenance items, they can help walk me through, "Generally, this is what you want to do or look out for." And if I have bigger maintenance issues, they will talk me through and give me as much detail as possible. I'm bad hearing language, even English sometimes, but even more so when it comes to accents. So, the fact that AHS outsources their customer service can get very difficult to work through them. And they leave their outsource, so they don't even work for the company. They're contracted to just run through.
I log into my American Home Shield account and there's a link to download my contracts. I just do all the specifics. And they have a bunch of checkboxes for each of the appliances or areas of coverage. I select that and hit "Continue", and it will ask me some follow-up questions, like the brand of the appliance. And there's a drop-down list of issues, like is it not working, is it not coming on, is it not blowing cold? Those kinds of symptoms. And that's it. I punch in some optional contact information, and hit "Okay" from there, and they would say, "Cool. You've been assigned this person, and they'll be contacting you in the next day or two."
The air conditioner was just blowing warm air out, regardless of what we set the thermostat to. When the contractor came out, they just replaced a condenser. They told my roommate that it was the condenser. And my roommate took a picture of the actual part that they had to replace just to let me know, "Hey, this is what they did."
There is uncertainty with overall cost. The annual premium for the service is somewhere between $700 and $1,000 now, which if you have to have a whole furnace unit replaced, it's worth it. Air conditioning is a good example where if it isn't a part, like a condenser, and they have to re-upgraded or fix it. Especially when it comes to Freon and you gotta pay a ton for each ounce of Freon. We had that happen on a previous house with air conditioning as well, and there was an issue. But AHS wouldn't replace the whole unit, and they could upgrade certain parts inside the unit, but half of that cost wasn't covered so I had to pay that, which was a few $100. I question nowadays, is it even worth having it? Because at the end of the day, you don't get everything covered even when you pay your deductible, so it might just be cost-effective just to not bother dealing with them, paying them and just going through contractors aside.

I speak clear English but it's always one of those kinds of issues. It's very frustrating. We put in three different claims since we had AHS and two of them were great. The third one was not and that was the locksmith. They only have one locksmith that stays about an hour away and they did not have any flexibility in their schedule at all. It was either you do it this day at this time or you don't get it done. We had to cancel because they didn't even give us A selection or B selection. They gave us middle of the week, early in the morning, or don't get it done at all.
You always hold your breath to figure out that what you think the issue is, is what it is, so it would be covered. You don't know that until the actual technician comes to analyze. But AHS has been beneficial. They have room to grow though with the customer service reps. They need a lot of assistance with the dialect. Also, AHS should have more selection in our area with the heating and cooling people. We moved into an older house this summer. Now that we've been in it for a while, we found that there were issues with the refrigerator leaking and with one of our toilets leaking. We also did the heating check-up for the winter and they discovered that we needed a new capacitor on our heater. Our experience with AHS went great. The plumber was really difficult to deal with, but I don't think that was American Home Shield’s fault. Everything's fixed now. For the heater, that's something that would have cost $1,200 to $1,500, and it just cost me the service fee, which was $175.

I have had claims wherein American Home Shield has done well. It has been timely. But I gave them and Sears bad ratings. My dishwasher got an error code on it. It was in mid-July the first time I called American Home Shield. I told them the error code. Sears was dispatched, they asked me to let them know what the error code was. And in advance, they ordered some parts for it. They said, "Okay. We think we know what it is. We looked it up." They came to fix it. In the meantime, my garbage disposal started acting up as well. They're connected side by side. When the guy came, I said, “Just FYI, my garbage disposal is working strange. I don't know if there's a clog between the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. And maybe that's what's causing the error code in the dishwasher. I don't know. I'm just throwing that out there." And he said, "We don't do plumbing. But I'm going to fix this."
He left. The error code went away. I tried to wash one dishwasher load of dishes and the same error code came back on. So, I called AHS again and said it was not fixed because I had to. They said they would send someone back out. But it would be, as always, a couple of weeks. I already waited three weeks the first time for someone to come. He came again and spent a long time with it. And he said, "I don't think this is repairable. I think the motor is burned out at this point."
It was leaking out all over my wood floor. My wood floor is all damaged. The cabinet that it's in, water poured all into my island cabinet. I kept seeing a leak. I had a towel underneath there. AHS knows this. I called over and over. And they would say, "We can't send someone out for like three or four weeks." "But I have water leaking. You pay a premium because you're supposed to have something fixed in a timely fashion."
We were into two months at this point. Finally, by the time they came back the second time and said they couldn't fix it, they said, "We're going to submit it. And we're going to say we think we just need to replace this appliance." In the meantime, the garbage disposal stopped 100%. Because he said they wouldn't deal with it. So, I placed a claim for the garbage disposal because I had to plunge my sink to wash dishes in the sink without a working dishwasher, and water would come out on the ground. I work. I'm a single mom. It's not like I can sit around all day waiting for repair people to come. And AHS would tell me weeks out.
They finally sent someone. They fixed the garbage disposal. But AHS said, "No. We're not going to replace it because we're going to bring another company out to look at it for a third time to the dishwasher." I said, "The Sears people said it wasn't fixable." They said, "No. Sears said they couldn't fix it. So we're gonna get another contractor, except there are no contractors in your area." I asked, "What does that mean? How long do I have to wait?" "I don't know." Four weeks later, they sent Sears out for a third time, the same people that said they couldn't fix it, but they no showed. They said the guy was sick. I called again, "Where's the repair guy?" "I'm sorry. My mom died." But nobody called me. I'm sorry about that. But this is so many days off work now or I arranged my work schedule.
On the fifth try, the same people came and said they couldn't fix it. And they said, “Okay. You can order an appliance.” I ordered it. Thank goodness I was there. Because KitchenAid was taking the wrong appliance off. I had to have them put the dishwasher back on and find mine on the truck. They took that off. AHS scheduled it to be installed two days before the arrival of the other appliance. They scheduled it on a Tuesday for me to have it installed. But the appliance didn't come until Thursday. So, I called the installers and said, "Hey, KitchenAid is not able to deliver the dishwasher until Thursday. Can you come Friday instead?" "Nope, we can't. We'll come in three weeks."
I got a dishwasher at the end. But it took almost five months. And I don't know how many calls. Every time I talk to someone, "I'm sorry." I don't need an apology. I just need it fixed. This is a contract. I bought a warranty service. And this is not what their contract says. They don't say. 'We're gonna come out over the course of five months, and eventually you'll have a working appliance.'" I realized that a dishwasher is a first world issue. But I've been a customer for six years. I pay my premium every month. I pay for a service that says it's going to be replaced in a timely fashion. That's why I have AHS so I can get it taken care of. If they had just listened to me and had someone look at the garbage disposal right away, there was some clog between the lines, but they wouldn't.
When I went on the app, it would show that the case was closed. I talked all the way up to supervisors. They would never call me back. And they make me wait, "We'll call you within 24 hours." If I don't catch that call, what if I'm seeing a patient? They would say, "I'm sorry. You'll have to call back and wait again and then ask to speak with someone again." It's not, "Here's my direct line. Call me back. Let's figure it out." It is like a joke.

I was not getting ice on my refrigerator. They put a new filter in. Also, the dishwasher wasn't running at all and there was no rubber gasket. They got right on my claim and mailed me a list of appliances that I was to pick from. The refrigerator is really nice. For the dishwasher, I had to pay more for it, because they did not have a dishwasher with the 00 sign on it. So I had to pick another one and pay the price that's listed. I just got them delivered yesterday.
I've had AHS for four years now and I love them. They have helped me so much. Each time they would come out, they would just repair old appliances or old equipment. But this time, they said, "She needs a new one." The claim process was great. I've referred AHS to a couple of my friends already. They came through for me after all the years. I pay an enormous amount per year but they make up for it in the long run.

The pool was not holding prime, which usually means it has a leak somewhere. I had a pool company come out that wanted $2,600 to replace a bunch of valves. I double-checked my American Home Shield warranty and it said it covered what I needed. I should have called them first. The guy came out and fixed it with probably a $10 gasket. But I'm having trouble with the most recent claim I have with AHS. I have an outside faucet and it's dripping so I tried to get it fixed by doing a request online. Faucets were not on there so I just put that I had a leak. The plumber wouldn't work on it because he said it's a faucet and I had to notify AHS. So, them and said that I put leak because there was no other option on the internet. The rep said they don't cover faucets. Now, I'm having to scramble trying to find a plumber to come out and work on it that's reasonable.
The plumber that AHS had originally assigned to this that told me I had to call AHS wanted $225 just to come out. I wasn’t doing that. I called another plumber and they wanted $69 to come out and tell me what's it gonna cost to fix it, and I didn't wanna do that. I have a plumber out today who said they come out for no charge and say what it's gonna cost. He wanted $400 to fix a leaky faucet and sell me some kind of membership so we didn't use him. It looks like what I'm gonna have to do is try to fix it myself. I probably can but the biggest challenge will be to turn the water off.
I was disappointed with the coverage. I thought that even if you had a faucet leaking inside, AHS will cover that. So, I was surprised. Up till now, I've been pleased with them. They've always fixed my issue. Especially with the pool, because I've had issues with the pumps and the motors and they always cover that. I usually get a response right away. If I need to call, I can get somebody on the phone and I have that service that you can leave your numbering to, and they'll call you back, which is nice.

American Home Shield does great work and they return your call very quickly. With some people, you would have to wait three or four days before you hear from them. I went online, submitted a claim, and left a message. That very night, someone from American Home Shield called back and they said they could get somebody out the next day, which they did. Everything was super fast.
They told me the date and time frame someone would be coming as well as who would be coming. About 20 minutes before he came, he called and let me know approximately what time he would be there. He identified who he was and what he was coming to do. He was very professional and he explained what he was doing. Any questions I had for him, he answered them.

He went to Lowe's and picked up a fan before he came. Then he fixed it under an hour. He was super nice and friendly. Provided good service. I've had washers and dryers go out. I’ve had my fridge fan go out, too and it’s not like I have the funds to pay $500 each time or for a whole new appliance. AHS definitely comes in handy when you're breaking down those payments. I really appreciate the service. It was really professional. American Home Shield was really quick about sending someone out. It's worth the amount of money already that we pay. When I had an AC claim, the contractor came out and they did a very good troubleshoot. They didn't go with the most expensive or extreme route. But they tried to salvage what was there and worked through the problem, and I really liked that. The fact that somebody came out and they didn't say, “Yeah, you got to replace the whole thing,” was just a relief to us. My dad was impressed with the service too when I told him, “Yeah, I only had to pay 130 and they came out and did this.” He said, “Wow, that would have been like a $3,000 job.” So I'm grateful. We bought the house in June and we had the whole home inspection, and the freezer was popping ice out. We came back down in August and everything was fine. Then when we finally moved in here a couple of weeks ago, there was no ice. We were told to change our filter so I tried that but that didn't work. A service guy came out and tried to reprogram the freezer a couple of times. He thought he heard the water running, like it would come to the ice cube maker and he said we should get ice by the following day. But I never got ice. So, I called back and the rep said that they were going to order a new icemaker.
The reps came in to install the new icemaker. The outside box had the right part number but when they opened up the box to put it in, there was a different part number than what the box said. So, they had to call the manufacturer back and order a new icemaker. I've been here two weeks so it's been well over a week and now, we're without an icemaker. We have a freezer in the garage that we moved stuff to and we don't think even the temperature is running right. The reps have to see that it's not holding temperature. We don't have a lot of stuff in the freezer, but when they're here working on it and the door is open and it raises the temperature, the alarm comes on. But it takes a long time to get the temperature down. So, that's a whole separate issue that they're gonna look at.
It isn't the end of the world but I'm afraid there are more things wrong with the freezer with this whole temperature deal, along with the icemaker. But we'll cross that hurdle when it comes to it. The reps were supposed to call me back yesterday if they were going to be able to ship the part overnight to get here today. I have called them this morning and left a message to find out if it was shipped overnight. But I have not heard anything back. I'm not thrilled with American Home Shield.

Back in August, our air conditioner was blowing hot air and when a guy named John came out, he said that the heater was overriding the air conditioner. There was a switch broken, so he had to order a part. He said he had connected the air conditioner so it never turned off. He also said that at least our air would work until he could get that part. So, the air conditioning kept running for weeks at a time, which was really no big deal. It ran great. After four weeks, he said the part finally came and he came back. He said he fixed the heater and since this was in the middle of the summer, we didn't try it.
Recently, when we had that freeze, we went to turn on the heating system upstairs and it wouldn't come on. By then, the warranty on the work done by the guy was out. So, we had to call American Home Shield again and Haskins, who we requested the first time because they were awesome, came out. When their tecg came back downstairs, he said that the heater was disconnected and the previous tech never put the part in. It was up in the attic in a box and he did not fix it. The tech from Haskins also said that the part is wrong anyway and would never fit our heater.
So, he went back up and I told him to do whatever he had to do to fix the heater. He said all he had to do was plug it back in. So, the other guy did put some kind of part in, but he left the part we waited for up there and I still got it. In the end, Haskins fixed the heater and it runs great now. I will never have that other guy on the property again. What he did was flat embezzlement. As for AHS, we always recommend them. But I wish is that we could ask for a specific company whenever we have a claim. Several years ago, we had the same thing happen with our thermostat. The company they sent out didn't do it right and they had to call Haskins who has always been a backup. They always had to go out and fix other people's stuff.

I have a love-hate relationship with American Home Shield. I have to be on hold. I have to call them all the time. I have to complain or threaten to turn off my service before they try to say, “We'll see if we can make an exception,” or a waiver or send someone new. I have a difficult time getting to the goals of fixing issues. American Home Shield sends out a work request then they are hands off. They don't make sure that the appliance was fixed or the issue was corrected. They don't even follow up with me nor with the vendor of their choosing that they send to us. I have had to have the same appliances fixed multiple times and paid separate each time.
Furthermore, we have had people come so many times for these things. It's always between 8:00 and 1:00 o'clock or 10:00 and 4:00. It's been frustrating. I have a washer/dryer set that I've had three people come out to work on it. It still puts holes and damages our clothes. My wife went out and bought a new washer and dryer set. The old one is in the garage. I told the technician to come look at it a couple of weeks ago. He said, “I'm sorry. You got to hook this stuff up for me to test it.” The one in the basement leaked water then it burnt out. The last company fixed it. They were awesome. They came with machines and equipment. They had to order other parts then come back. They worked with me on the time too. They came on a Saturday and in the evening one day. Everyone before them has been a nightmare. I wouldn't do business with them if I was in that realm of work.
The folks that I've worked with with American Home Shield have not been accommodating for a customer service-based company. They're there to make the money and maximize profit. I had seven water leaks in my house. I put the request in, paid money and had a guy come out. He cut open a bunch of holes in the ceiling and told us that was $100. Obtaining access to the problem isn't included in the home warranty. I negotiated with him on the phone and said, “My wife has $50 on here. Can you just accept $50?” I could have come home from work and cut the hole in the drywall with a bread knife. That shouldn't have been charged. Then we called American Home Shield and they said, "They shouldn't have charged that.” My wife had a handwritten receipt that the guy gave her. I offered to provide that and get reimbursement. They said, “No. That's not how it works. We can't reduce it from your $75 fee or reimburse you for that. You shouldn't have paid. You should have called us.”

I've recommended AHS quite a few times. Three years ago, our furnace quit working. The tech who put something on the thermostat gave us a heat pump one. It was triggering our furnace to go on first and then it kicked on our air conditioner. The same issue came up and the tech who came recently said, "You should've never had a heat pump. You don't even have a heat pump in your house." The tech said that he didn't have the model that we needed and he would run to the store to pick it up. I thought, "Thank God, he just didn't throw what he had on his truck."

When Beaches Air came the first time, the fan wasn’t working so they had to replace something. Still, the air conditioner wasn’t working. So they came out a second time. The fan wouldn’t cut off and we even turned it up. They came out a third time and they’ve been at it four times. So, I contacted American Home Shield for the conversion over to cold weather. We had a different company come out and within two minutes, the guy said that everything was fine and it was just the smart motor doesn’t shut off. I have a $650 electric bill because the fan ran continuously.
AHS is very good. It gives us some protection. Up until now, the technicians they send have been good. But when Beaches Air came out four times and it still didn't work, I said no. AHS said that Beaches Air asked to come back on a recall. So I paid for two ones and then two recalls. And even after that, they couldn't figure out it's the motor. They're coming tomorrow hopefully. I could have gone with the other company that had the correct diagnosis. But then I'd have to pay another $75 for them to come back out. I already paid $225 to American Home Shield three times. God help that poor technician when he comes tomorrow. I'm going to be nice about it. I'm gonna say it’s the motor and I'm going to show him the $600 electric bill.

My AC went out again and AHS sent their contractor out. The tech said he tried to fix it but he's not sure it's gonna last. He said this part went out and it's making the unit kick the heat and air on at the same time. The tech does a good job when he comes out. He talks me through what he is doing and what he is repairing. I was very pleased with him. When he came to put the new unit in, he worked well the half of the day to put it in. He didn't stop to take a break. I told him that he could go to lunch or whatever. He said that he was gonna finish me first because he had another job waiting.

I had put in a request for the repair of a refrigerator. AHS sent out a company that didn't fix it. Then they tried to charge me again to get somebody else out. Then they got somebody else out that didn't fix it. But when I had something wrong with my pool filter, they had sent a company that was fine. For our garage door, the guy came out and disconnected something and was like, “I hope this fixes it. But all garage doors have this problem.” So far, we haven't had the same problem. But AHS has to have a better check and balance on who they're hiring. If I’m hiring them and their company works, that's great. But if I'm hiring this other company that doesn't work, then AHS shouldn't go with that company. Because I'm paying AHS to make sure that this stuff is covered, not them.

My hot water tank and my pool went out. I requested service and I had no problem with American Home Shield. So far, so good. With the warranty, I don't have to worry or anticipate the cost of a repair. When I had the hot water tank repaired, it cost me an extra $500 and that was okay with me. It would have cost 1,500 or more. So I like the savings that I'm getting plus the peace of mind. I also like the quick response from AHS and I can recommend them with confidence. I've had great customer service when I put in the service or I needed to talk to an agent. I had great customer service from each of the subcontractors, too. They were all really professional. In fact, I had the same guy from the same company out three times for my refrigerator and I appreciated him coming out. Then I had my microwave worked on and he had to come out a second time. But he had anticipated that was what the problem was.

American Home Shield was included with the purchase of our home and we just stuck with them because we've made claims before and they were always quick and efficient in finding someone in a timely manner where we were not just left wondering. I have a three-car garage and there are two separate garage doors. I filed claims with AHS for the large garage door and the small garage door when they stopped working. They were successful in fixing both of those. In submitting my claims, I went online through the AHS website and it makes the process very simple and convenient. I also like the fact that their contractors get back very promptly to us, usually within 24 hours. Their appointments are very timely as well. Of the various claims I've had, all the contractors seemed to have been very effective and professional. But I had one claim for a plumbing leak where the contractor thought he had fixed the problem but he didn't. And he responded quickly when I notified American Home Shield and they sent him back out. Then he got the problem fixed right. As for the tech who came out for the garage door, he has a very good reputation here in the area where I live.

On October 4th, I called about my air conditioning unit. It was stuck on heat. They dispatched HCS, which are the ones who put the thermostat in. But the claim is still open. I've called American Home Shield several times and they had no clue what was going on. I was really disappointed. So then, I texted the man who texted me originally and I've been in communication with him. But the customer service at American Home Shield needs more training and they need to be in better communication with their contractors.
The original issue was the thermostat that wasn't working. They recently put that thermostat in earlier this year. The representative said that they were going to waive the service fee. American Home Shield said they waived it, but they kept calling about it and they kept emailing me, saying that I still owed money. After the five different people I spoke with, they got it removed. When I finally got in touch with the contractor, he knew what was going on, which they had ordered a part and he sent somebody out to show me how to get the heat on and how to use that thermostat. So the service and the communication from the contractor was excellent. But the customer service with American Home Shield leaves one to contemplate whether or not it's worth it.

The contractor came out and did a check for my AC. It was a $75 maintenance check. When the people were here, they realized that it was some other part that I needed. The technician contacted American Home Shield and got an order for them to come out for that and I wouldn't have to pay extra for that. When I called AHS about my garbage disposal, they sent the guy out. He came in here with some kind of wrought iron and a hammer to see what was going on with my garbage disposal, because it wouldn't work. He was trying to get it out to replace it. But he didn't know what he was doing with it and was trying to find on his phone instructions on how to disconnect. He finally told me, "You got a fork lodged in there. You see a little shiny something, that's probably something." He just told me that he couldn't fix it, and left.
I called and said, "Well, I'll just cancel this service because they send people out here and they don't know what they're doing." The man on the phone asked me why and I told him what happened. What I did was I called my plumber and bought another disposal and had him install it. I had the old one and he asked me to take a picture of it and send it to him, and I did. They sent me a check. I canceled then, but I eventually canceled because I never thought to use it like the way, I can use it with regular service calls. I've sold new construction lately and they come with a warranty. So, I'll consider AHS when I get a deal of a pre-existing.

At one point, I was thinking of changing American Home Shield because I have an icemaker, and techs had come out six times for it. A little arm inside the icemaker fell off into the ice. I took it out and set it on top of the refrigerator. I mentioned that to the tech and he asked me why U took it off. I said, “I didn't take it off. It fell.” I don't feel that I should have to be defending myself. Just fix the icemaker or replace it. It's that simple.
Out of those six times that the techs came, I probably paid the fee three or four times. They replaced the ice maker once or twice already. American Home Shield keep sending me this company and they don't speak English. One tech didn't even understand what I was talking about. And every time they come out here, the return appointment is not for three weeks. One guy came out here last week. I couldn't get a return appointment until November 17th, so I was without ice that whole time. I'm not happy with the service.
American Home Shield needs to screen their contractors better. I don't want them to come out anymore. But we don't get a choice of who comes to us. We should be able to have that choice. If that company can't come out, find another one. It seems like there are some kickbacks in there for somebody. Another thing is even when I call on the phone, the rep speaks English but she has a heavy accent. Those things aside, I'm pleased pretty much with everything else.

The garbage disposal wouldn't do anything and when we flipped the switch, it didn't circulate. We did an online claim on the AHS website and it was fairly easy to do. It asks you what kind of problem you're having, then it gives you some options as a drop down. I also like the fact that that before it lets you submit, it asks if you tried certain things which might fix the problem and that you might not have to pay the service fee. Through that, we found a little video that said to put the little key thing in the bottom then try and spin it to see if the garbage disposal was jammed. We tried that and it could turn with the little key thing. There wasn't anything stuck in the blades and it wasn't leaking. So, we continued to submit our request then the webpage said that somebody from the company would contact us within 48 hours to respond to the claim call.
After that, I got an email indicating who it was that had been assigned and a contact number as well as a claim number. Then, the service contractor contacted my husband well before the 48 hours to tell us when they would come out. On the day of the appointment, two gentlemen came pretty early in the morning and they were very nice and friendly. They tested the electrical and there was nothing going into the electrical. They also tested the machine and did the same twists and turns of things. Then they said that the motor had burned out and they were in and out fairly quickly with the repair. The garbage disposal has worked since then.
This group was fantastic and we were very impressed with them. We've had some poor interactions in the past with what seemed to be lengthy service calls and delays with getting contractors to come out, but this was fast. Plus, the service folks were on time and they knew what they were talking about. Our warranty is worth it and my husband has bragged about American Home Shield to people that he works with.

I've been with American Home Shield going on two years now. I was with them before about three years, and I let them go because they were high, but I found out they were the only one that could fix my problems in my home. However, they need to add inside-the-home freezers on the plan for the simple reason that people have freezers. Everything don't fit in the icebox.
I can't do a lot of outside running around, so I do everything by phone and the reps are awesome. I have no problem with them, but I have a problem with the contractor and billing, where billing should do more with a person's money. They need to make sure that the contractor completed their job and check in with the owner as well. I got a claim that I paid to have my roof done, and the contractor did not complete the job. I'm dissatisfied right now because American Home Shield told me they were going to follow up on the job but there was no follow-up. That's why I don't like paying my money upfront, because people don't do what they say they're gonna do.
The people that came out didn't knock on my door and didn't even say they were finished. We just heard them on top of the roof. I take medication, and I can't jump out of my bed to come see. They ought to have knocked on a person's door and made sure they were addressing that issue that was called in for. The hole is still in my damn roof, and it's unacceptable. I even told the owner that I called back and they lied and said they were gonna come back and do what they were supposed to do. I addressed the issue, and now I'm gonna have to come out of pocket and pay somebody 'cause I'm not paying American Home Shield any more to do something that was already supposed to have been done. Still, having a home warranty helps when you ain't got no money.

I had purchased a plan a couple of years ago with coverage for my well & septic pumps. Unknown to me, they dropped the coverage on the septic pump & increased my premiums by 25%. I was ok with the premium increase as everything is going up lately. When I needed to have the septic pump looked at, they took my deductible $$$, but couldn't find a repairman in my area. Finally after several phone calls, they agreed to allow me to find a local repairman--which I was able to do without a problem. They provided me details on the process, and gave me phone number for him to call to get authorization for the repairs. After 2 weeks of going round after round with them & every excuse in the book why they wouldn't cover it (first is because it wasn't in the perimeter of the foundation, which makes no sense & many of them had no idea what a check valve even was (the initial cause of the problem), they finally stated that it wasn't in my contract.
Sometime in the last couple of years, they had revised the contract dropping the coverage for the septic pump (but the payment never went down to offset the pump no longer being covered). In the end, they kept the deductible/service call payment $125 that I made when I started the process, I've now paid the $1300 repair out of my pocket & they are now billing me for a cancellation fee of $60. My advice, put the $$ you would be paying them in a savings account for repairs when they come you. You will be money ahead. Never again.

I paid for a tune-up on my AC system which is the $35 special that they had. The only reason I called in for the service was for them to check to make sure things were fine and nothing was wrong with the AC. It was to clean it up more than anything and to do a tune-up. But Crispy AC did a diagnostic on it and they turned it off from the top of of the roof without letting me know. A couple of days later, I go turn the AC on because it was getting too hot. I noticed that the AC wasn't on so I called Crispy AC. They said, “No. You have to call your warranty and tell them to do a recall on the service with the AC.” I called American Home Shield, and they said, ‘We don't do a recall on a tune-up.” I told them that the techs turned my AC off and that they should go back. AHS then said that in order for the techs to do that, they would charge me $100.
I paid the $100 and I was supposed to get the techs back. I have been transferred over to the department to fix the problem and I said that somebody had to be responsible for this because the AC company didn't call me nor let me know what the findings were on the AC. AHS said they found this and that but that was after the fact that I paid for them to go back and turn my AC on. The lady goes, "Okay" and they transferred me. I waited for the call from home warranty and the main manager called me back. I was already in the process of saying, "Somebody say they’re liable or I'm gonna sue someone because I can't be without the AC on. I had no problem with AC and it was turning on fine. Now it doesn't even come on.”
The manager said, that they were going to have the guy go back to turn the AC and that they would refund my $100. I haven't seen that yet and I don't know if AHS refunded that money. Another tech went back and I said, "Why would they turn AC off without letting me know." He said, “Well, we couldn't leave that AC on because a leak is going on in your AC.” I reply, “But it was working fine. I don't have no problem with the AC for the four years." He then said that if we left the AC on, the warranty company was not going to pay for whatever damage was done on the AC.
I go, “First of all, they didn't let me know at all when they left it.” He said they did. I go, “No they didn't. My roommate was in the house.” At that moment, he goes, ‘No, I cannot believe that because my guys are very good. I am reporting that right away.” I go, "No. let me prove it to you.” I called my roommate out, and I say, “Hey, is this true that the guy gave you a report?” He goes, “No, he just told me to sign the paper and he left. He didn't tell me anything about the AC, or that he was going to turn it off so he was going to leave it off.
AHS needs to be more aware of their contractors when they go over to their clients. They need to communicate with them better and hold them accountable for whatever they do. The contractors should report findings right away. It's very important to let the client know right away what the findings are. Other than that, AHS has been great with me.

He determined what the issues were, ordered the parts, came back five days later, and repaired it.

Our refrigerator is 17 years old and we've had issues with it since we've lived here for seven years. This wasn't the first call for that refrigerator. The contractors do what they can, but it still happens. After they leave, it goes right back to what it was doing. It works but barely. We have water leaking all over our floor every day because they're unable to fix it. But the people AHS has locally are great. We had a claim for the dishwasher and they fixed it. I also like how I can just schedule the service online without having to call. It's very easy that way and less time-consuming.

When my washer broke, I called American Home Shield, and they sent out a company called Asset Appliance. I had dealings with them in the past, and they're a shady, garbage company. You can see just by looking at the reviews. Horrible ratings on Google. I called American Home Shield executive support, ‘cause I had their number still, and talked to a person over there. They said that they would have someone come out, a secondary opinion, then Knockout Appliance came. The guy was here for half an hour, looked at the machine and said, “Yup, this is normal wear and tear. We can replace the bearing, but the likeliness of it failing again, highly likely. And the cost to replace the bearing is probably as much as buying a new washer.” So, he recommended a replacement. American Home Shield, the next day, sent me a link to request a replacement. It's a really good process. Overall, I was very happy.
The only thing I was unhappy about is Asset Appliance is still one of their repair shops. When Knockout Appliance came to my house, the guy asked if it was for a secondary opinion. I said, “Yeah, it actually is.” He said, “Let me guess. Asset Appliance came out?” I said, “Yeah. How did you know?” He said, “We get all of their secondary requests.” He said, “Asset Appliance, they try to disqualify repairs to keep them in good standing with American Home Shield. ‘Cause when you put in a request for a replacement, it goes against you. But we want to take care of our customers.” That's a little unfair. Asset Appliance, a year earlier, came out and worked on a dishwasher five different times. I ended up having to get corporate involved. They replaced every single part on the dishwasher, and it still wasn't working. I have them blocked on my account now, so AHS won't send them out anymore.
I'm really happy with American Home Shield. It's unfortunate, though, every time it seems like I got to call executive support, get someone in the United States, and they fix it immediately. If you call the normal customer service number for AHS, nothing against that, but you get outsourced customer service and they don't quite understand you. They have no power either.
I had to do a bit of legwork, but ultimately, AHS just bought me a $1,000 washer that I paid $50 a month for a warranty. I’d recommend them and also give people their executive support customer service number. Some of their third-party contractors are good, like Knockout Appliance, and some of them are like Asset Appliance. They're probably the same company as Total Appliance and just changed their name. Those are the two companies I've had issues with in the past three years I've had a warranties with American Home Shield.

Everything was great. It’s the best service I ever had out of American Home Shield. I called in about three o'clock one afternoon, saying my furnace wasn't working. The man that I talked to was helpful. I told him my husband had passed away and I didn't know what I was doing right now. He said they would find someone to come out to my house and he was looking right then. AHS had someone scheduled to come out here the next day from 10:00 to 2:00 the next day. I never had that kind of service.
My husband used to get so mad. This is the air conditioning and I have bad heart problems and he would tell the rep that he felt like I couldn't handle the heat. It never made them any difference but AHS got the people out here. They were good people. My husband would always made the calls and that was my first call to American Home Shield in all those years. Somebody had to make it so I was the only one here other than the cat and I’m pleased with the way they treated me

It turned out that the unit was under warranty by LG because of all the issues that LG has had in the past. But as soon as the contractor came in, they fixed it. I was hoping though that AHS would compensate me because it took three weeks to get it fixed and I lost a lot of food. There was no compensation for anything in the unit that had gone bad. The tech came out and he was fantastic. He was able to identify the problem quickly and explained to me what was happening and took care of it. So far, it's been working fine. The first few times that I needed to call American Home Shield, they kept hooking me up with a company to do the work that was out of Houston which is three or four hours away. My air conditioning unit was completely out. They kept canceling my call, and no one ever let me know it was canceled. I was almost ready to cancel American Home Shield. I was not happy with them at all. I kept going back and forth with them. It took over a week and it was during the heatwave here in Texas. I had a year old great-granddaughter who just had surgery and was in a body cast. Because it was taking so long, I ended up paying outside service to come and do the work. I got the permission to use an outside company and get reimbursed. I was upset that it cost me less to do it through another company than what my deductible would have been which is $125.

I had a toilet issue where my toilet wasn't flushing correctly and it was leaking water out the back end of it. So all that was wrong with it was the mechanism that was inside the toilet. The seal that was on the bottom was jacked up. The nut at the bottom of the toilet was also loose. They had to replace it because the seal broke. It was leaking about 30 gallons a day. I called American Home Shield on a Thursday and the plumbing company came out on Tuesday last week. So it took a couple of days. But when they came out, they fixed it. It was just a matter of getting on their schedule.
I had to call them a second time just to get on their schedule. But I've worked with them in the past even when I didn't have American Home Shield. They're really great plumbers. The owner made sure I was on the schedule for that day. They were professional and they finished the work in less than two hours. Everything's working fine now. I was glad because I was losing that amount of water per day and my water bill was at 277.
The customer service at American Home Shield was excellent. Once I got them on the phone, it was like a straight shot from there. But the cost is a little bit up there. However, I've done actual plumbing calls myself where I've paid anywhere between $150 and $175 for one call or issue, plus paying for parts. So American Home Shield is fair when you look at the overall cost. They replaced my whole mechanism on this plumbing claim. I didn't have to pay for the parts. I just paid the 125 that I paid for the service call. So when I look at it compared to past times, I've actually spent less money by having American Home Shield.

The contractor narrowed it down by checking everything else out, then once he found it was a faulty switch, he went, got the part and put it in. The man went above and beyond, and it’s working perfect. I've had that contractor out before as well, and they have done great work. I got this coverage for the first year when I bought this house, and now, I'm getting ready to go on four years. As I'm getting older, it's smarter to keep someone on hand. It's worth paying the money every month. It's $80 a month, and I have things taken care of, like that faulty switch. I also don't think the prices haven't gone up since I've started.
American Home Shield has done great work where they've replaced a dishwasher and washing machine that have gone wrong. We argued a little over our air conditioner, and I ended up losing, but now, we're about done paying for a brand new one that we bought at that time. Give or take, I’ve lost one, but I've gained three things and more, because I've had plumbing issues that I've been able to call about. Every time, I can't complain about it afterwards. That’s what I call them for. I've told a few people that it’s smart to get American Home Shield. If someone is getting a home, it's one of the smartest things to do. Not unless they're really mechanically inclined and ultimately rich, then calling someone to pay someone to come out each and every time is their best bet.

I've been very pleased with AHS. They are by far the most professional organization. They are top-notch. In case something goes wrong, I could call on them. They will take care of anything I have wrong with an appliance or something wrong with my home. I’ve always been impressed with their technicians. When the condenser was clogged, a technician was out the next day. It was immediate.

When our refrigerator for 17 years went out, AHS had someone come out and he deemed it unrepairable. AHS then gave us an allowance for a new one, which was very satisfying. We also had a garage door opener that they replaced for us. Then, when our heating and cooling unit had a part that was broken, AHS had someone repair that. But when he first came out, he tried it eight times and it worked every time. So we paid $125 to have him come out and say it was working. But he said the warranty on the service was good for 30 days, so we'd been trying it a couple of times a day to make sure it was still working.
At another time, they sent out a guy to work on our garage door and we were not happy with him. He said he could not repair it through AHS because the problem was due to an electric storm. But he said he could repair it by himself for $400. So we called another company and when they came over, it just needed a simple change because the remote controller for it on the wall was bad. And we paid them 90 some odd dollars for that. AHS then refunded our $125 after we yelled and promised not to cancel. When we tell our friends we have American Home Shield, they would say they'd never get their warranty and that it'd be a waste of money. So we tried to defend it and tell them about our refrigerator and our garage door opener.

The service is going well, so far. Sears recently came out and the technician said it was something with the panel box outside the house. He fixed the issue. He was very helpful.

My microwave was not heating up and my dishwasher had some issues with the panel. It was not turning on. I raised a request to American Home Shield online. They took care of everything. They sent a person to fix the appliances and it was good. It was pretty quick getting the service scheduled. A tech came in really quickly and finished up. He was knowledgeable and he explained the entire thing. He had to replace some parts of both appliances. Since the repair, the appliances have been doing well. I'm pretty impressed with what American Home Shield has done so far and I don't think I would have any issues working with them. This is money well spent.

My refrigerator wasn't refrigerating. So, I submitted a claim with AHS and it was a weekend, so I wasn't expecting to see anyone even after I called. But the tech came on Saturday. He diagnosed the problem quickly and said that the compressor wasn't working. Then he said that he was going to give the diagnosis to American Home Shield and they would decide whether to replace the part or to replace the refrigerator. On Monday morning, he was there with the part and replaced it. And my refrigerator is happy as a clam, and so was I. He was excellent. I like AHS because when I call, as long as it’s on my gold policy, whatever it is, they send someone straightaway. Also, only once did I get a person that I couldn't really live with and that was many years ago. He did the job but we didn't get along at all.

The technician tested the unit and plugged it in. He checked a lot of things with his tester. My wife's gonna get the money from American Home Shield to get a new unit.

AHS is good. I told a few friends to look at the program. Recently, a technician came out and fixed my washing machine that was making noise. He told me, “You cannot stay here because if you do, I get nervous. I cannot work on the call.” After one hour, he knocked on the door and said the machine was ready.

I went to move a dresser in my master bedroom and the carpet was wet. The shower in the master bathroom is on the opposite wall. I called AHS to have them help me troubleshoot and find where there was a water leak. The plumber came out right away and we shut off the water. There was a water leak issue in the pipes between the shower wall and the master bedroom. A water remediation company came out and had to cut holes in the drywall, and bring equipment to dry out the water that was there before the plumber could come back and do the repairs. And they just finished the repairs yesterday.

When I had a leak in the water heater, we got an exceptionally good response. We had to wait a day or two however. The fact that it was a leak, I was hoping that it would be an emergency. But other than that, we're content. They came in and resolved the issue.

A dishwasher wasn't working right and the contractor, TN Appliance, repaired it and were in and out of here very quickly. They did a wonderful job. I'm very happy and satisfied with American Home Shield. It's nice not having to deal with all the problems.

I got with American Home Shield on a few other situations throughout the years. At one point, when I called about a repair, the technician found it to be something else than what I had clicked on. They didn't want to fix the problem because I didn't go through the right channels and therefore I had to pay another service fee. I was upset. I almost wound up canceling because of that. This recent experience was pleasant. The power kept going on and off with my electric stove. The problem has been repaired. However, there was no place to describe the problem when I filed the claim online. I wound up clicking on extra buttons to make sure everything that could possibly be the problem was addressed.

AHS is very affordable and I love them. I had three claims with them. One was for the dishwasher where the tech put in a part, but it still didn't work. So, they replaced it. Then, the lint filter of the dryer was really clogged up, and the washer had an issue as well. The tech contacted me back when he had the part for that, then he put it in and got the repair done. He was very friendly and he got everything done that he said he would do.
