    American Home Shield is not responsive. The last time I talked to them was the 21st and for the third time, I was promised that I would get a call with a new contractor assigned the following day, but I didn't. This last time they said, "They'll call you with a new contractor in 48 hours." I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said, "A supervisor will call you in 24 hours." But that was the 21st and today is the 27th. So it's Christmas, and things are not getting resolved.

    I started the service with American Home Shield in July and they offered a complimentary rekey service. So I took advantage of that, and it was great. Then my heat pump seemed to be going out. C & R Heating came out, which was the same company I've seen subsequently and they were wonderful. It turned out to be a really simple thing. So it cost me $100 for this service call, which I didn't understand upfront that there was $100 fee every time I have a concern. But they fixed it right away. So I was happy.

    I called American Home Shield about my thermostat because it acted really weird for two days in a row when it would register 83 degrees. But it wasn't required. I played with it and read the manual. I tried to reset it myself but it didn't seem to work. C & R Heating called and rescheduled the service call for two days later. So I said okay. That was all as soon as they could get here. Then I gave it a day, and the thermostat seemed to right itself again. When C & R came out, they said, "No, nothing's wrong with it." So I said, "Okay. Well, thank you for coming. I'm glad you checked it anyway." That was that.

    When my hot water tank was leaking from the bottom, I called American Home Shield and C & R came out. They said, "Yes, this is not good. We need to replace it.” So they did and that was wonderful. Again, it was a $100 service call. I thought everything was fine. But three days later, it was leaking again. We bought a pan that they could put under it, which they did for us when they installed it, and it was full of water. So we called them and they came out. The plumbing was inside the house and they refinished the basement, so the tech said he couldn't get to it. He said that they would call the next day, and he had other calls he had to go to, which he did, which was fine and reasonable. Then it started leaking from the top.

    During this time, they said they would call every day but they never did. So I would call back a few days later and they would say, "Someone will call you tomorrow." They never did. It's the holidays. My neighbor did come over and look at it and tell me. He's a retired contractor and he said it does not appear to be installed correctly. He said that there's an expansion tank on top of the hot water tank. It's connected from the top of the tank, but it's leaning and resting on top of the main water tank. The hose is short and it's kinked. He said, "That's very unsafe. That's not correct installation." My pipe is freezing because it's my first winter in North Carolina and I don't know what's going on.

    Every time I call American Home Shield, I get a representative who's been perfectly wonderful on the phone. I've spoken to three different people and they're doing their job, but there's a lost connection very obviously because I'm getting absolutely no response back. So I'm having a really not good experience.

    I had a leak coming off of my water heater. I went to the American Home Shield website and filed a claim. A plumber came out and he was very nice. He replaced the pipe and did it quickly. But he didn't follow the trail far enough after he left. The next day, I noticed the pipe was still leaking so I had to get him back out. He had to come back out and replace another piece of pipe. It's good now.

    Right now, I have a water heater that's out. I called American Home Shield and they put it in a tech. That person said they can get me on the schedule. But it's been three days later and I don't have hot water. Three days later is a long time. It's basically gonna be a control valve issue. I asked the tech, "We're pretty sure it's gonna be a control valve issue. Is the guy even gonna have this part?" They will have to order it and that will be another 10 to 14 days. When you're dealing with a water heater and you don't have hot water in your house, two weeks of waiting is not a sufficient time. I had to call Lowe's and they had a guy out this morning. They're gonna come and do a replacement tomorrow. It's gonna cost me a whole lot more money but I can't wait two weeks for hot water.

    A couple of years ago, I had a refrigerator go bad, and it was the same thing. I was told, "We'll get you on the schedule. It's usually a couple of days." They're not in any hurry to come out. I had to buy =one of those chest freezers just so I can not lose food. If American Home Shield can get people out there quicker, then it would be better. Aside from that, they do get people out.

    AHS takes care of issues pretty fast. My refrigerator went out last month. It took the tech two weeks to get the parts. But he came back two weeks later and fixed it. He was very professional and he knew what he was talking about and doing.

    The washer stopped. The contractor got out there the next day. The tech was very knowledgeable. He had the washer running within 15 to 20 minutes. It was great. I like that I don't have to worry about doing repairs and try to find anybody to do them.

    When my air conditioner quit working, American Home Shield didn't fix it since there was a dent in the side of the condenser box outside. I had to pay $5,000 to put in a whole new air conditioning system. In my view, they just used that as an excuse on not to fix it or to pay for it. The dent had been there for years and years and years and air conditioning worked just fine.

    American Home Shield said, "Well we can't cover that because there's a dent there and we don't know if that's what caused the problem." I said, "That thing's been there for years and years and years. And you guys came out and changed the condenser unit inside that thing, you know, a few years back before that and that dent was there and there was no hassle then. So, why now?" There's nothing I can do about that now. But other than that, American Home Shield has been good. They fixed my water heater, dishwasher and garbage disposal. If something breaks, it's nice to not have to pay out a big lump sum. We're in the process of looking to buy a house to move into and we'll take American Home Shield with us.

    Every time I call American Home Shield, they've done a good job getting somebody out to fix my unit. I had an air conditioner condenser go out. And they were still waiting on the parts. It wouldn't be in until the 30th. Also, the heater went out, but it was just cleaning out the pressure switch. So, the contractor came out and did that. My dishwasher also went out. And we're waiting for parts. But the tech is supposed to be out today to finish it. The techs have all been great.

    If you're buying a used home, it's good to have AHS because you don't know what kind of condition the appliances were in when you bought it. That gets expensive if they all go out at the same time.

    My dryer was beeping. It wouldn't come on. Sears was the first technician that was assigned to it, and they scheduled me to come out two weeks after the initial claim, and they extended it for two weeks. So, American Home Shield assigned it to a new technician and he came out the next day. He got it fixed that day. I like not having to worry about paying out of pocket for the full cost of repairs.

    The heater stopped blowing warm air. When the first contractor came out, they said that it couldn't be repaired. They just wrote up a whole bunch of nonsense that wasn't true, so I disputed it. I also had had a bad experience with that contractor when they did my home a couple of years ago. The guy from that company took my unit outside and said he was going to clean it. When he brought it back in the house, he wrote up something and I ended up paying $900 out of pocket, because I ended up having to use another contractor, which charged me for all kinds of wiring. That experience alone made me not ever want to do business again with that contractor. I felt that whatever was wrong with the unit probably didn't even need any of that work until he broke it. All of it could have been avoided had we had a competent person come out to start with and didn't break the unit.

    When I told AHS about what happened, they didn't anything. But for this recent claim, they said they were sending out another contractor for a second opinion. With AHS, sometimes, it feels like I pay more and don't get the service. They also don't vet their contractors greatly. But at other times, when they send a good contractor out and I get the problem fixed, it feels worth it.

    I went to the website and filed the claim on there for the microwave. The tech was decent and good. He was competent. He fixed it. But the call center at American Home Shield is hard to deal with sometimes. They sound like they're outsourced. It's hard to communicate with them sometimes. Today, we have a stoppage in our main line drain and I need somebody out here ASAP. American Home Shield assigned a contractor. The earliest they said that they could come out was Friday. I asked the contractor if they could come any sooner and they said, "Let me get you back with American, the warranty company." I went in a circle with them. It was going in circles with the prompt. I had them to call me back, but I already had Roto-Rooter on the way. So I cancelled the service request.

    I have had bad experience with American Home Shield in the past regarding another claim. We had bad drains in my house. I put in the claim. We were kind of in a urgent situation. We couldn't use anything in our house. They said somebody will be assigned within four hours, if not call them back, and I could hire my own plumber, and they would reimburse it. I did that. But I haven't heard anything. There's no contractor assigned to my issue. I called back the call center and said, "Hey, I'm looking to hire my own plumber. How do I do this now?" But they said, "That's no longer offered." So I said, "No. That's not what the other guy told me.” So I was frustrated because they could have told me that in the very beginning.

    I had a dispute with AHS in my old home. I had purchased a one-year membership for the people who purchased my home. But AHS continued to charge my credit card, and then they kept saying that they couldn't find it and that they didn't have proof of the charge. And I'm like, "I can read my Visa. I'm clearly still being charged. That was a little frustrating. I disputed the charge with my credit card provider.

    Some of their service technicians are good. But sometimes AHS is aligned with suppliers who have such a low Yelp rating. I am waiting for a plumber and AHS said it hasn't been 48 hours for them to reach out to them, but it's also the dead of winter. I was gonna give that plumber one more day to reply but I asked if I could have a different supplier that I used in the past. I wish I could just go with the same person because they were really good. Now, I have to start over again with somebody I don't know about.

    I lost power in two rooms. The tech fixed the issue in two minutes. He was really sweet and cordial. He did a great job. The only down to that and it doesn't sting on them, but it took four days for the techs to come out. Luckily, it was just two rooms. And they communicated, and they did the best they could. So, I totally understood.

    But another issue is communicating with the person who answers the phone and them saying, "This thing isn't covered," when if they dug around a little bit more, the would realize, "Oh, yes. It is covered." It takes more time and it's exhausting to have them do more due diligence before telling us that something is not covered. The back and forth is the most challenging part.

    We've had a broken clothes washing machine and we've been recently dealing with a refrigerator that's not been keeping the temperature. We also had some leaking plumbing issues. It's been difficult to get a timely technician in some cases. In one case, we waited weeks to get someone to sign. AHS ultimately told us that there was no one available. We had to go on our own, and pay upfront out of pocket for that service. Then, it took months to get reimbursed. The service offers good value. But in some cases, it's difficult to talk to someone and share enough information about what the need is and what they're doing to address it.

    The central heater went out so I called the 800 number that American Home Shield gave me. It was all automated and they said they would send me a text. That would include the name of the person and the company that was going to do the work, which they did in about 20 minutes. They told me the day that they would be out to do the work. I waited a couple of days and workers showed up. They were here for about 15 minutes and fixed the central heater. It works just fine now. This last week was 17 below on a Thursday. With American Home Shield, I don't have to worry about my appliances in the house because at my age, I wouldn't have the money to buy new ones. This way, if they go wrong, they fix them and keep them working.

    AirFlow came out to fix the furnace. It needed a new circuit board and then they came the next time to fix the circuit board. They came out with the new thing and they fixed it, but it failed. I want someone to re-fix it. I was told when I called American Home Shield that evening time, somebody would show up the next day. I waited. But nobody called me. But I have a good experience with AHS.

    My most recent claim with AHS was my pool pump. It had failed and I had a service technician come and replace a component for it. That particular service tech had been out to the house before for other service calls. It was very casual and friendly.

    AHS is well worth the money. A lot of times, the home warranty companies get a bad reputation for trying to get out of there for as little as possible, but I've never had that experience. I've had some very favorable surprise coverages. However, we've been with them for a number of years and their prices go up. It started out that it was $75 a month and now it's $108 a month. The price increases don't seem to be justified. They seem like they're arbitrary.

    The tech that AHS sent out for my claim was good and nice. Worked on my dryer, but while he was working on it, it started squeaking and he said that that should go away, and if it didn't, to call back and to have them come out and fix it. My dryer is squeaking now, but it didn't do that until he started working on it. So I need to get them back and have them fix, but I don't want to pay another service charge for that. I called American Home Shield to get them to come back out.

    Do not use this company. Save yourself money and aggravation. Better to call a qualified service to get something fixed. They will send you the worst company who doesn’t get any business, and then you will wait a few weeks or even months if you are lucky. I recently contacted them about my ice maker in the refrigerator, since it has stopped working. First of all, they dispatched a service call and advised it would take 48 hours for the contractor to contact me. 48 hours passed, no one contacted me.

    When I reached out to the assigned contractor, the receptionist had no clue about the service call to my address. After about 20 minutes on the phone, she was finally able to find it. It was already Friday. She mentioned that someone would contact me the following Monday about “SCHEDULE” and let me know what day. When I asked what day it would be scheduled for approximately, she replied, “POSSIBLY WEDNESDAY”. Keep in mind this is only an ice maker in a refrigerator that I can live without for a few weeks, a month, whatever. God forbid your heater to break in winter time, or the AC in extreme hot summer, or a burst pipe. On Monday I got no phone calls for the whole day. At approximately 5 pm, I decided to call myself to see when my appointment would be scheduled. I was promised Wednesday.

    On Wednesday, a so-called “technician” came into my house just to let me know that I was not properly opening and closing the French doors on my refrigerator. Apparently, first you have to open the left door, then the right door, and after that you have to close it in the same sequence. What a stupid thing to say. And then they told me that they have to put some kind of silicone inside the refrigerator for the ice maker. Telling me that he would send me a YouTube video if I didn’t believe him.

    Do you think a professional would tell you something like that? A YouTube video, huh? Is this how you diagnose a problem? Lucky for him, I wasn't home at the time of the appointment. I wish I had been present, so he could look into my eyes and tell me that I was not properly opening and closing the doors. I would've thrown him out of my house right there and then. If I checked the reviews prior to them showing up, I would never have let them into my house. After numerous attempts to contact American Home Shield to try to resolve the problem, I was forced to break the contract.

    I was told by a few supervisors that there is a process that they need to follow and this is how their process works. After a contractor is assigned to be at your home, you can get a second opinion. However, you have to wait at least 48 hours for that first contractor to explain what happened and only then will they be able to determine whether they're going to allow a second opinion. Do you believe that a contractor who is supposed to schedule a service call within 48 hours in the first place didn't even bother to call you, they will reply to you within 48 hours?

    I actually did try and gave them 48 hours, and nothing happened. I was given the same story again and needed to wait for the contractor to reply to them. And all you hear from them when speaking to any of them, including supervisors, "I understand your frustration", NO YOU DON'T. You don't need to understand my frustration, but what you need to do is to create a system which is going to work out better and you can retain some of your clients. Also, two months ago they raised the price without even letting me know. I believe that I was supposed to get some kind of notification to let me know that you are raising the prices. And don't automatically assume that it will be OK.

    I want to get my full 100% refund for one year worth of payments, including the service fee charged, and the cancellation fee of the contract, where it does not indicate anywhere on a contract that there is a cancellation fee. I will take this to Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. SPOT PROVIDING SERVICES IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE IT. You don't deserve to have a name like "AMERICAN" home shield, rather "WORTHLESS" home shield!

    American Home Shield is a good company. I filed a claim for my dryer, and the guy from The Supreme Service Group came out and said he'll give the quote to American Home Shield. I said okay, then I got an email from AHS that said that I could either get another dryer, they give me a Lowe's gift card or pay the difference to get another kind of dryer. The communication was good, but I had to call to see when the dryer would be delivered, and that was fine. Once I called to follow up, they delivered the very next day.

    American Home Shield is fast, dependable, and when I need them, they stick with the contract. For some reason though, they don't have roof repair on their list. I thought, "Well, if we get a roof leak, I'll pay out of pocket for it." Still, they're a good company. I save money and I don't have to call a contractor to come out. I just pay the $100 service charge, and I'm not paying for the actual parts and work.

    My dishwasher is only a bit over a year old, but recently, I was having problems with it. The timer was stuck in one spot and it burnt out something. The repair people did what they were supposed to do and they had to come twice for the dishwasher. It's not their fault though. It was for parts, and now, the dishwasher is perfect. I love it.

    My dishwasher failed to operate on 11-7-22. I called American Home Shield to schedule a repair. It took over a month to get one part. When the repairman arrived a month later he told me that another part would need to be ordered. My appointment now would be 12-27-22 from 1pm-5pm. I waited for the repairman and he never showed. No phone call, no updates. It is now 5:30pm. One of the poorest customer service I have ever had. I am going to stick this out and get the dishwasher repaired because I already paid my $100.00 deductible. As soon as it is fixed I am going to cancel my subscription with American Home Shield.

    Whenever you turn on the air conditioning, it made a whistle. This started sometime in mid-October. I called American Home Shield and then a dispatcher called me and coordinated a time.     The contractor had to replace an inducer in my heating system. They had to order the part, which came within the week and then, the service person was able to come up. So, it was probably a couple of weeks process. The tech didn't talk a whole lot. He just came, did his job, and had a couple of words, and then left. American Home Shield is convenient and the process is smooth. Even if I’ve only used it once, it went well. It’s a great service for only 100 bucks.     The most recent claim that I had turned out that my thermostat was not working. It was telling it to run the heat and the air at the same time. When I sent in the claim, I specifically requested Grady's because I was pleased with them when I had AC work. They sent the same technician and he was very knowledgeable. He seemed to be thorough. So, I was pleased. But it was not an easy task to request a repeat vendor. You have to call in and go through all these prompts and get on the phone with a person. I'd like to build a rapport with a company so that they have a history and they can say, “Oh, yeah, I see we worked on that unit before.” Although it was a different issue this time, I'd like to build a rapport with the same company. So it would be nice if there’s an easier way to do that.

    For smaller things, American Home Shield is a benefit. But for other things, they don't have a fine line in between. So, I've had certain things that I didn't understand. When I try to speak to someone, I can't understand them. They don't understand me. They just want me to pay 100 bucks, and I would get somebody to come out based off what they think. That's the worst thing that I've had with them. Other than that, like electronics or washing machine, dishwasher, it has been well. Also, I enjoyed the tech. He knows that the other spring is gonna go out. Unfortunately, AHS won't cover it until it goes out, so I have to pay another $100 to get the contractor to come out once it goes out instead of fixing it all at once. I'm still trying to look for other insurance elsewhere.

    I had water on the floor in the basement by the furnace that was leaking all over the floor. I called American Home Shield thinking something was wrong with the furnace. The tech came out the same day I put in the claim. The issue ended up being the humidifier for the house. When the tech took it all off, it was clogged up, so the water was going all over the floor. He cleaned it out and put a new PCP piping there and a new filter for that unit that attaches to the furnace and it fixed it. I've always had good luck with American Home Shield. When I've had water heaters go out, I haven't had to pay large amounts of money out. I just paid my $75 service fee. I have the top plan that American Home Shield offers. So anything I've had have all been repaired on a timely basis.

    From the time I reported that my AC went out until the time that it was repaired, it took about five weeks and I wound up replacing it myself because the first person they sent out couldn't get here until a week to come and see what was wrong with it. When he got here, he had to submit his findings to American Home Shield. So I had to wait over the weekend. When he submitted that finding, it wasn't all the way covered. But I was told I will have to replace the Freon and I was good with that. I could do the Freon thing. But the part that he said needed to be replaced, there was a discrepancy in the parts.

    There were two parts that were not working but American Home Shield would only replace the part that the tech couldn't fix, even though the fix was temporary. It was gonna go out. Somehow the two are connected. So I was gonna wind up having to pay the Freon again because in order to come out the second time, it was gonna have to be bled dry and repaired and then the Freon put back in it and couldn't be recaptured. It was just that I would be out of the cost to replace the whole thing.

    American Home Shield wouldn't agree to replace the whole thing because they said it could be repaired. I got it and I was numb at the end of that process. I was numb at how many times I had to call and how the people who were on the phone were reading from a script. They couldn't answer any of my questions. For the amount that I'm paying a month and the cost to have someone come out, I could have put that money in my pocket and managed my own processes, and got the work done myself, especially since I wound up paying for the replacement of the air conditioning unit anyway.

    My plumbing was the most recent thing that I had a claim with. I called American Home Shield because I had a leaky faucet in my shower. Since the contractor was out here, I added to my list via text if they could check the pressure in my cold water. The technician came out here and said he fixed the leak and that the lack of pressure in my water was because the valve was clogged. AHS said that was not covered in my warranty and they sent me a quote to get it fixed. But the faucet started leaking again.

    I called the tech back out here and he said, "We replaced everything in there that could be replaced. If that doesn't fix it, then it's got to be the valve." So I called and spoke to the tech's company, and let them know what he said. They said, "Yes, he told us. But since the valve has already been disapproved, then we can't go in and fix the valve." But I had already been through this ordeal and back and forth with my AC, so I knew to ask for a second opinion.

    I asked for a second opinion and the contractor came out here. The guy found what was wrong was what I said was wrong. It was like I gotta go through too many hoops to get my stuff repaired and that's not what I'm paying for. I didn't like that. I got a second opinion for my AC, which is what prompted me to replace it because that guy found two more things. American Home Shield was still saying they will repair it instead of replacing it. The repair was going to be temporary in both instances. The plumbers told me that they revealed that to American Home Shield and that it was going to be temporary. But that was gonna cost me more money. This is not how I would treat myself. I wouldn't do that.

    The whole point of getting American Home Shield is to take care of the things that I have and not to try to get over anybody, but to take care of what I have, and to maintain it. If I'm gonna just have a handyman, I could have a husband or a boyfriend put a duct tape on it just to hold it over for a little while. I'm not satisfied at all. It's been horrible.

    The refrigerator stopped working so we called American Home Shield but it took longer to get the parts than I think it should have.     I called up American Home Shield that my refrigerator wasn't getting cold. Somebody did come over and checked it. They said they were going to call me to let me know about ordering the parts. But they never called. So I called American Home Shield again about my refrigerator and the lady said something about it was gonna take a while, and they were gonna order the parts. So it was too long already. I finally called up and spoke to somebody. I said I wanted to talk to the manager and told them, "You took my card number and you guys have the money already. So is there any way you guys could credit me back the money in case if I need to use it for some other stuff?” So they credited back the money.

    When my disposal went out, the guy came and got that done. Then not even a week later, my washer went out. So the contractor came and delivered my new washer. But they couldn't hook it up because there was something about the valve. So I had that fixed. After that, my sink was backing up. So I called American Home Shield for the plumber.

    I've been having excellent service with American Home Shield. I upgraded my warranty so it has more coverage. I like that. I used to call but couldn't understand the reps' English, and they couldn't understand me. But things have improved. I've had some crappy service and the vendors didn't feel like they were going to be paid enough, so they were in and out very quickly. But now, the service is so much better. They try to fix it correctly the first time so they don't have to come back. They're knowledgeable and professional. My most recent claim was an electrical issue. The electrician enjoyed his job and educating people about electricity. I was very pleased.

    I had an air conditioner repair this past summer and the vendor that American Home Shield selected made me pay 4% extra for using a credit card. The first company that they sent out told me they were gonna charge me 2%. I had someone else come out to give me a second opinion because I didn't trust the first company but the second company wanted to charge me 4%. They knew people were desperate because it was hot this past summer. I was telling one of the vendors that I was gonna have to cancel and they told me out of all the home warranty companies they work with, American Home Shield is the best. When they said that, I stuck with American Home Shield.

    It's very easy to make a claim. Generally, I do it online. But on the phone, it has always been easy too. The 19th of December, I made a claim for the two outlets in the living room. They weren't working. And American Home Shield said the contractor would contact us within 48 hours. That’s the way it has always happened. But I hadn't heard from them so I called. And they said that they were out of the office until December 17th, which it was after December 17th. So, I left a message for them to contact me, and I never heard from them. Christmas Eve, I happened to check my email. And there was a message from AHS saying that my appointment had been confirmed for today, between 4:00 and 6:00.

    We have our Christmas tree up still, because we're not exchanging gifts till New Year's Eve. And there's a bunch of presents around there and I've got my furniture all messed up in the living room. I figured I was scheduled until after the holiday. I was inconvenienced. It wasn't that much of an inconvenience during the holiday. And I figured businesses would be closed.

    I tried to call the contractor. It's after the 17th. They must have meant the 27th. So, I tried calling them again, the 27th. They were not answering so I left a message. And I thought, “I'll leave a text.” Nothing. Yesterday, I was nervous, all day thinking, I don't want them coming out and charging me. So, I tried to call AHS, which they had a long wait time. Said they could call me back. Yesterday evening about 5:30, I thought, “I'll call. Maybe it won't be as busy.” I was able to talk to a representative and I told him the situation. He tried to get ahold of them. Apparently, they're closed already. So, he said he left a message for them and he also sent them an email. I've not heard from the company today. I don't want them coming out and just taking my $100. AHS has always called and told me what they have available, which would work for me. So, I'm flabbergasted by this, but it's nothing on AHS. It’s the company.

    The plumbing claim worked out fantastic. The contractor was prompt in making the appointments come out. The technician was pleasant and professional. And he discovered the problem right away. He said, “This is the second one I've had for the same problem.” It was just the water valve. It was turned off underneath the sink. Why would you think it would be turned off under the sink, right? None of us did. But apparently, somebody did. It was an issue that we could have taken care of, but we were not as smart as he was. So, it worked out perfectly. He was very friendly. He corrected me but not in a rude manner. And he was very polite.

    I recently had two claims with American Home Shield. One was a buzzing sound I kept hearing coming from my electrical panel box and the other one was my HVAC system that was not heating like it was supposed to. What led to the buzzing sound and my heating system not working ended up being one thing. It was a capacitor in the heat pump that was bad. It wasn't an electrical problem. It ended up being an HVAC problem so I canceled the call for the electrical issue 'cause the HVAC claim fixed the problem.

    The repairman that came out was great. He showed me some things I could do to keep my HVAC running good and save energy. But the problem had persisted. I came back a couple of days after Thanksgiving and put in a request. That was when I told him a friend of mine is an electrician and he looked at it. He told me, "You might have something going on in your box. I don’t want to mess with it because you got warranty claim. It sounds like it could be a short.     The heat and air conditioning were not working. I could here the thermostat would click on but nothing would ever blow. The tech looked at the blower system and the issue was a burned out fuse and relay. The parts are probably fairly common parts that go out, and they had them on the truck. So he was able to repair it that same day. When you have a big repair, AHS is convenient 'cause it's cost-efficient. But if you don't wound up having a breakdown for a while, then it is a little more on the pricey side.

    With our old refrigerator, they repaired it too much. We kept having to call for claims, and they just kept repairing instead of finally saying,“enough is enough”. Other than that, the techs have always shown up, done their work and they've been courteous.

    When we had a thermostat issue, there was some misunderstanding of how to set up the appointment. But once we navigated through them and got ahold of the AC people, they were able to make an appointment right away and get them out really fast. But the technician wasn't very bright. It's a smart thermostat. We had told him he needed to read the directions. He erased everything on our cellphone. The second time, he came out again. It didn't go so well 'cause he turned our heat on and our house was 94 degrees. He had to come the third time.

    The policy expired so we were trying to get it renewed. The guys we dealt with that were receiving payment didn't know how to renew. They were saying they couldn't grab the payment money off our account. The credit card expired. The bank issued us a new credit card and American Home Shield just needed to change the date on it, but they wouldn't change any of that. The worst part about that experience was we called within enough time for them to go ahead and regenerate it. But they couldn't. We would have to wait 30 days for them to regenerate. They said they were sorry but there was nothing they could do. When we called back, the other guy said, "They could have done this and you would never have lost your eligibility or your longevity with the company." Thank God, nothing happened in that one month that we had to go through that process again.

    Other than that, we've had nothing but great service that's why we keep on going back. The service American Home Shield provides is valuable. They were able to customize the policy for us. The first policy we had was at a townhouse and they customized it with a townhouse. Then we bought a single family home, and they customized it with that single family home. With this new home, it's a new construction, and they were able to customize it to fit the new construction.

    The service tech who came for the garbage disposal that was making extensive noise was excellent. Though I knew the problem, he re-diagnosed it, realized he had to replace the part and replaced the part right away. On my other interactions with American Home Shield, someone comes out, looks at the problem, and doesn't always have parts on hand. They order the parts and come back for the install. That delays those repairs.

    The first time somebody came out to look at a microwave, he said, “For me to make the repair, the microwave needs removed from the wall. You have to find a contractor for them to remove the microwave. I don't remove microwaves from the wall.” I wound up doing it myself and that was during a period that I had a severe back injury. I was disappointed that their service tech who was bigger than me didn’t wanna touch the microwave and get it off the wall.

    There was another interaction where my dryer was going on the fritz. The service tech tried telling me that the vent pipe was clogged. I cleaned it out. They came back and asked, “Where's the receipt of the person who cleaned it out?” I said, "There’s no receipt. I bought the tools. I got on the roof. I cleaned it out myself. It's clear. I dropped a golf ball, and it went through.” He said he needed a receipt before I went any further. I called American Home Shield. They reassigned somebody else. That person that came out said, “There’s nothing wrong with your vent pipe. Something’s wrong with your dryer.” They proceeded to work on it three times to get it fixed.

    Our heater was messed up. The tech was out in a couple of days. He was great. They had to order a part but the day it came in, they installed it. I didn't have to speak with anybody from American Home Shield, just the automated thing to make the claim, which was fine. But, before this, we had an issue with our tub. Every representative that I spoke with kept on giving different information each time. One would say, "Oh, no, this is covered." The other would say "No, it's not." Nobody was on the same page. We reported the issue in November of 2021 and it did not end up getting resolved until seven months later. Every time I would schedule it with the contractors and everything would be good, they would never get to show up because then they would tell us that American Home Shield called and said it's not covered. The only reason that they got going with it was because I threatened to file arbitration.

    Some of their customer service reps are really good but a majority of them don't know what the heck they're talking about. They don't let you talk and they interrupt you left and right.

    Whenever something breaks, it used to be $100. Now, I pay $108. Other than that, every time I've ever had a service with them, it has always gone well. My washing machine went out shortly after I got the policy. They sent somebody over and I got a new washer because it couldn't be repaired.     My money goes out every month and I was beginning to wonder, "God, am I throwing money away?" Then, I had an issue with my water heater. I called AHS and normally, I absolutely hate automated systems, but theirs was the best automated system that I've ever encountered. It immediately recognized my number, pulled up my policy, and validated the coverage once I indicated what the problem was. The system then said the deductible is gonna be X amount, and, "This is the card we have on file. Would you like us to charge that?" I said, "Yeah", and the system said, "Would you like us to schedule so-and-so plumber to come out and handle the repair?" And I said, "Yes, I would." The system was accurate, efficient and it made everything easy.

    They gave me the contact information and I followed up with the plumber and let them know that I have no hot water and confirmed how quickly they'd be able to come out. They came the next day and did great work. But the water pressure was very low in my kitchen sink, which is the one that we released all the pressure out of. The plumber came back and flushed everything out so that it improved. Everything was great and I was very pleased. I'm happy to recommend AHS. They have the clout of their relationship to get contractors to be responsive.

    First you should know that American Home Shield only has one or maybe 2 service providers in a city. Those providers will have a backlog of business. So, when you need a repair or service forget about it. My most recent experience. My furnace went out 12/6/22. We were without heat for a day and half. My furnace went out again today - Thursday 12/23/2022. Same issue. The service provider is booked until 12/26 - they don't work weekends. So are we supposed to be out of heat for 4 days? The temp here has been below 10 deg F and into negative at night. What kind of service is this? I will end up paying out of pocket for a reliable service provider to come and fix my furnace TODAY.

    Nov 2022 We called in for furnace fixing and they assigned May Heating and Cooling who totally don't care about their business. I took off work to be home waiting on them and they rescheduled last minute with a text. I took off another day for their rescheduled day, they came, diagnosed the furnace issue and promised to send the invoice/quote with details to American Home Shield (AHS) which apparently never happened. We were sitting in freezing cold house for 2 weeks when I called AHS and they said they didn't receive a detailed enough invoice to determine what parts are needed so it's just been sitting there no one following up or anything on it. They tried to call May Heating and Cooling who never answer nor return calls as usual. AHS said they'll follow up with May Heating and Cooling but 2 week later still nothing, invoice still just sitting with AHS.

    The furnace simply needs 2 small little parts, AHS and their contractor would rather leave us sitting in blistering cold house for a month rather than following up on each other. Today 12/23 it's over a month since the back and forth about this furnace. I decided we're cancelling AHS service. Their retention dept tried to offer free 2 installments, no resolution on the poor service regarding the furnace. This company AHS service is super poor, if you do not call them to push, nothing happens, even if you push them they blame on their technicians. We were paying $70 per month, we cancelled. We could have gotten a private technician fix this a long while ago.

    I have had nothing but issues dealing with AHS. I have had two rental homes I owned, and my personal home. All had contracts. The phone staff is nice. However the company is inept. They send you contractors that can't do the work for DAYS. I mean important stuff like HOT WATER heaters. Finally, when they dropped the ball ( AGAIN!) I hired my own. Which came out the SAME day. Charged me. I asked AHS to reimburse me. Haha. DECLINED! I rarely use them, and finally I need them and I got NOTHING! YOU will be sorry, if you use them. May as well take that $ and throw it away.

    I had a claim about two weeks ago for the plumbing on both of my sinks for both bathrooms. I called American Home Shield and made a work order. Then they sent out the workers to see what the problem was. The workers had to pick up a part and then come back and fix it. For the other one, they had to order and then they came back and replaced it on another day.

    I've been with American Home Shield for some years and the claim process used to be super hard. It used to be hours on hold. But this last time, it was no more than five minutes. So they've gotten a lot better. The coverage gives me peace of mind that I'm not going to have to come out of tens of thousands of dollars, even though I've had an episode where I had to pay, and American Home Shield didn't cover it.     I tell my friends AHS is worth it. I'm gonna hang on to them for a little while. I like the response. You can call them and they'll get somebody out within 72 hours. If they can’t fix it, they'll replace it. They do a excellent job. Whatever company that they choose is top-of-the-line. I had a plumber come out recently to reset the water line to my toilet because it would keep running. The next day, I went out of town. When I came back four days later, my closet was soaking wet. I called him and he said he thought some knob came on loose. We called whatever company they used to come out. They brought heaters and dehumidifiers to dry everything out. They left it there for about four days. I was afraid of molds, so I told them to take the carpet out. They paid the claim when they came out. They told me that I wouldn't be responsible for it.

    I've been calling for about eight months to have my problem fixed and I keep telling American Home Shield that the person they keep sending doesn't do the work. He just charges. AHS pays him but they don't verify the work is done. They have sent him twice. He came twice. I got a third person and they said the work was not done. My roof is still leaking and damaged, and I have to fix the ceiling in my living room out of my pocket. I called AHS back. They sent me somebody else. I called them. They gave me a date to come. It was 11 o'clock on a Monday. I called them at 10 o'clock and said, "Is somebody going to be here at 11:00? Do you need me to be home? Would you call me before you come?" "No. We will be there 11:00." I waited in my house until 12 o’clock. No one showed up. I called them. They said, "We are busy. If you really need that bad, find somebody else." Then they hung up.

    I called AHS back to let them know what they said. AHS said, "Oh, somebody's gonna call you back in 24 hours." That was on Tuesday. No one has called me back yet. It's been going on for nine months. The technicians are very nice. It's just AHS won't listen to their client. If a technician says, "I did the job," it does not necessarily mean they did the job. The guy from the first time was like, "Oh, you need to change your roof." "I just changed my roof 10 years ago, sir." My roof cannot be 40 years old and still be in that shape. He just wants to change a new roof for AHS to pay for it. I was like, "No. I'm not gonna say yes to that." I keep telling AHS that. They said, "No. You have to listen to him." It would be good if they can at least check what it is they've done or what the technicians are telling them.

    I did a service call for clogged plumbing in my home. The contractor got it taken care of within about 10 minutes of their arrival. They were very courteous, and professional. I was very pleased. When I had a washer go out, I was told that they no longer make the parts needed in order to fix my washer dryer set. My favorite washer dryer set looks great, but it's in my garage stacked up because apparently it couldn't be repaired. I wasn't very happy with that. But I have to take the folks' word for it when they said that the parts were unavailable as far as the smartboard necessary in order to get my Samsung washer repaired.

    American Home Shield did everything necessary. They were very responsive. They booked timely and got an outfit out here and paid my deductible. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. I just wish I could get a technician to come out here and fix my high-end washer dryer set. This is my third house with American Home Shield, and I'm very pleased.     The way to submit things with AHS is a little bit weird, because it just gives you a few options, and I'm always having to guess. There's no spot to put exactly what it is that you need. Recently, they came out for a garbage disposal that was having some trouble and a leaking faucet downstairs, which wasn't done right the first time by a different subcontractor who did not do a very good job. But the last tech who came out did a really good job.

    It was leaking under the sink from my bar, and the person came and fixed that. Also, in the kitchen, I had a leak from a pipe and he fixed this one as well. The guy was pretty professional and did a really good job. He had to come back again because he had to go and buy some parts. Then he came back two days after, which was cool. It was not an emergency that he had to go buy the parts and come back because he said that it was something he could just close so we wouldn't use the water there.

    I'm pretty happy about the way that AHS handled my claim. With some other company I had in a different claim, I was not happy with them so I addressed that. I told AHS that if they don't mind, I don't want to have this company, because the person that was working for them was trying to trick me. They said that it was a good thing I shared this information with them so they would know what to do next. So they always listen to what you say and they try to make sure that you're happy and you're comfortable with the people that come and do the work for you, and I really appreciate that.

    When I first submitted the claim for the sump pump, nobody bothered to tell me that they couldn't find a contractor. I didn't have any use of water or my stool or any sinks downstairs at all. I went for three days and then American Home Shield said they were gonna dispatch somebody else. A day later, I got a call from another local contractor saying that they were coming out. They came out and explained it to me before they repaired it. The tech was very specific. Then they fixed the problem and it was a done deal. They were great. But it took four days, and American Home Shield was supposed to have somebody there within 24 hours. That's what I pay $100 a month for. I had one other incident with an ice maker that took me two and a half weeks. But anybody I’ve had to my house has been great.

    I don't like that I pay $100 a month, but for every service call, I gotta pay another $100. Nobody ever told me that or discussed that with me when I signed up for Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I had to go back and read the fine print of the contract that I got in my email to figure that out when I had my first Home Shield call.

    I made two claims with AHS, one for the dryer and one for the washer. The techs came out fairly quickly for the dryer and had to get parts. But then they couldn't submit the claim for the washer until they fixed the dryer, which kind of sucked. As for the washer, we ordered a replacement and it was a couple of weeks before it showed up. The biggest benefit of having the warranty was to not have to purchase new appliances from out of pocket when they go down. But I also have AHS for my mom and they screwed it around with her a bunch, which I didn't really appreciate. So I thought about looking at another provider, but I haven't got around to it.

    When I call in, I have to wait in line to get someone to talk to me. Today, they say they're getting too many calls and I can't leave a message. Then, they hang up on me. It's not a very good experience. Also, they send letters in the mail that are not clear. I had put in a service request and the contractor came out here. They said I have to pay the service technician. We always pay before the service technician even comes out here. I'm not sure what that's all about.

    Other than those, the technicians were very nice and knowledgeable. But I was surprised because I don't feel like he finished the job the first time, so we had to put in a second request. Also, when they came, they just came in a regular car. That didn't seem very professional. Would I recommend AHS at this point? No. I wish I would have known that previously.

    We had Home Shield before and then we switched to a different company because they had the outdoor plumbing and that was a mistake. We should have stayed with Home Shield. They're a lot better because they work with you and they pay their contractors. Also, the premiums and service fees are reasonable and the protection is excellent.

    Most recently, we called them for a furnace claim and they brought someone out. The contractor took a look at it and said the squirrel cage or blower motor was going out and the damper was bad. It was right around Thanksgiving and the next week, they came back out and finished the repair. There's a slight squeal when the blower motor blows up but it's working great and it's keeping the house warm. Also, it's a lot quieter so I can sleep better, which is nice.

The contractor was in and out of here within about 40 minutes and I've been without a dryer for three and a half weeks, so I just want to kiss them. They were nice, very clean, friendly and amicable. They did their job and when they got through, they said, "Thank you very much" and left. I tried a repair before for a refrigerator in the garage and I paid for it. The tech came out and he didn't know what was going on, so he called his boss and I heard the boss say that the refrigerator was not made for the garage anyway. They didn't fix it and they left.     They do not have providers in most of the places. When the replacement or repair is expensive they do not respond and when you call them they keep saying that your claim is going to be escalated. Central Air stopped working in June, it's December, -11 degrees and they cannot give us a response. Save your money!

    I got American Home Shield because my parents owned the house before I bought it a year ago. They had the coverage and were really happy so I continued on. Last month, I did a claim for my dryer. The belt in it went back so it was making a squealing noise.     One thing that I don't like about American Home Shield is the price seems to increase about $5 to $6 a year. I'm up to paying almost 80 bucks. When I started out, it was about 50 something bucks. That aside, I like the ability to have somebody come out when you need it and having things covered. If I can get a discount or not pay a large amount of money, it would be worth it being in the program.

    I started hearing some noise and I had somebody look at it. They thought that it was the motor running out or going bad. I did a claim with American Home Shield to have somebody else look at it for a second opinion. I did the claim online and the website was easy to use. American Home Shield gave me the name of the company that was doing the work. The techs bought the same thing and they ended up oiling the wheels. I'm still intermittently having the issues. But I was told that they’d come back. The unit could not really be repaired until it was fully broken. Basically, my heat has to go out.

    American Home Shield helps because at the end of the day, it gets things fixed. But there's usually a long delay and it usually costs more than just the copay too. We had a hot water heater maybe a year ago. They'll replace the hot water heater but all the plumbing to get to the hot water heater and electrical piece aren't included. Our dryer went down and we had to wait about five weeks from the time we called. AHS should have transparency and timeliness of a resolution.

    We did two routine services, and then I had one claim for plumbing with AHS. The toilet in the bathroom was running in weird ways. The people seem to be fine, but when you file to get service, there's a disconnect between when they tell you, "We've matched you with a contractor," and then getting any kind of real scheduling from that contractor, communication there falls apart a little bit.

    I end up getting messages from the contractor with them telling me when they're gonna be there instead of anybody being like, "Let's work with your schedule." There should be more communication in the scheduling piece, just because somebody at the contractor site has wasted time setting an appointment that I'm just going to reschedule because nobody talked to me. Other than that, everyone's been professional and friendly. The service itself of AHS is fine.

    I've had good luck with AHS for everything we've done. Recently, I had an oven that was not heating up past 300, and I put the note into them on a Sunday night, and on Monday, I got a thing that it was dispatched to somebody. Tuesday morning I got a call and they said they needed to find somebody different. That person didn't work on our particular type of oven. Later that day, someone else was given to us and he came out the same day. It was all fast.

    The first time the tech came out for my dryer was in July and he changed an element. That was perfect. Then he came out in November, and he changed another element. I was out of town for a while and washed some clothes after that. I put everything on delicate, the same amount of time, and it was so hot, that when I opened it up off the delicate, I couldn't touch my clothes right away. Some of them shrunk a little bit.

    I put a call in and I had to go back out of town, so then he came today, and the issue was that lint had clogged up in that silver thing that takes the lint out. He cleaned all that out. American Home Shield wasn't gonna pay for that, so I gave him $20 for coming out. He was a wonderful person, great personality, so helpful. So far, I haven't made that many claims with AHS, but they've been really personable.

    I had an issue with my washer and my dryer. The claim process at AHS was easy. I got online. I put in a few things on what was going on, and I had somebody call me within hours, and they had everything set up. I had a code on my washer and it was a part where my water goes through. We have really hard water in Odessa so they had to replace that on my washer. Then my dryer was throwing a code, and they thought that it was the motherboard. They replaced it but then within a couple of weeks, it started doing it again. So they came out to look at it and tried to order the part for what they thought it was and they were unable to get that because they didn't have that part. But it's being replaced tomorrow. Everybody was great. The technicians were very nice and didn't make a mess. Everything was good.

    My freezer in my refrigerator wasn't freezing and everything was melting. It was defrosting and I didn't understand why but the refrigerator at the bottom was still working okay. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out a guy whose job was to do nothing but work on refrigerators. He did a wonderful job. My refrigerator is rather old and he really didn't have access to any parts, but he had some things in his truck where he could take some and kind of jury-rig a repair to keep it going until he could get the right parts. I really appreciate him. He was friendly, talked a lot as he worked, and he was one of the best people I've had ever come out here. I've had prior problems in the past and the techs weren't really as efficient as this guy was. He put the freezer together and it worked for a week or so while he got the parts. Then he came back over after about two weeks and put in the new parts. Everything works fine now.

    I originally submitted a claim for the contractor to come do the toilet and showerhead. I like that I'm able to schedule everything with American Home Shield online. It was convenient that I can put in the request for the service at 3:00am, and the contractor can schedule it in the morning. The tech tightened everything up, but he didn't actually fix it. So, it wasn't leaking as bad, but it's still leaking. So, I had them come back out again, and they said they didn't have the parts and had to come out a third time.

    I don't like the lack of communication that what they're fixing because it was a different guy every time. The first guy tightened it up, but didn't make sure it wasn't leaking-leaking before he left. The second guy knew it was the issue and he came and, "Oh, another part." They've already been there, so they could have gotten the part the first time and finished in two appointments.

    AHS has been pretty reliable. Recently, I had a line from the hot water heater leaking to the outside. It was a continuous leak. The tech came and said it was a worn out vial. Then he put a new vial in it and the leak stopped. He was pretty friendly and fast. He also called me before he came out, so it wasn't an inconvenience. Everything was right on time, so it was a pretty easy process. The prices of AHS are also good and being a homeowner, just knowing that you have warranties on your appliances and other major things that can go wrong gives you a little relief knowing that you can make one phone call. Or you can go on your phone, click the service that you need, and everything's set up right there. You don't have to constantly making phone calls.     The air conditioner went off. I called American Home Shield and then somebody came out and replaced it. But he did not replace it technically right. I spent the whole entire summer with no air conditioning. They came in the end and said, "Okay. There was no enough Freon. We didn't put enough Freon.” So that wasn't a good service. But when I had a plumbing claim, the guy from McLain Plumber was very good. He responded to the call very quick. He came pretty quick too. He was very polite and nice. American Home Shield is pretty good. They fix all problems. They send the people very quick, which I'm really happy with them. They did a good job.

    The door to the dishwasher was not connected any longer to the spring. So, it just flopped open. I called the American Home Shield agent that I deal with. Most of the time, I connect with her by text and she gets back to me. The technician who came was very courteous. This is the same company that I have had claims with before. They're very efficient, very careful, and very nice people. The tech said, "Okay, let's take a look at it." He did all the things necessary and he showed me what had happened and how he went back in and reconnected the spring so that it would stay on and advised me that if it happened again, we have to probably replace that.     I will try to summarize my terrible experience. I have a HVAC that I have needed fixed since a little after I moved into my home earlier this year. My journey started when I simply submitted a work order. After it was assigned to a local company, I checked the reviews. They were horrible. 1 star on Google and many were saying that they should have zero. The contractor has caused damage, started a fire, verbally assaulted a customer on site, and the list goes on.

    I called AHS to have this fixed and say that they need to get someone else out here that doesn't have such a terrible reputation. Not a lot to ask when there are 20+ in the immediate area that are great...Each time I talk to someone, they make a note and say it's solved and then I get a notification that this terrible contractor has been assigned again. Finally, yesterday, my 7th back and forth with this company I am put with an escalation specialist who says that she sees the notes and that they weren't seeing it. NOW she would pull this company from my file which she says it's impossible for them to be assigned. She reassured me multiple times.

    Today - wait for it - THEY ARE ASSIGNED AGAIN. I call - same story - except now I can't be escalated now. This is the definition of crazy. For something that is so important, this has been the worst service I have ever received by any company, large or small. I am now at a point where I have to use a terrible company or pay out of pocket. Really struggling to understand how either of these companies are still in business.

    We had a dryer that had mechanically failed. It took about two and a half weeks to get somebody out here to look at it and diagnose it. We were without a dryer for like a month. The guy came out when the part came, took the dryer all apart, had it all in pieces, and then said, "Oh, I need another part. He left us with a pile full of dryer parts. So, we couldn't use even the washer at that point. We finally requested a replacement. American Home Shield had two people scheduled. One came out and said it was not worth replacing. The other one, obviously, is getting paid on time. The one guy's like, "It's not worth it for you. It's not worth it for me because it really shouldn't be fixed." The second one said, "I'm going to need to replace this part." It isn't available anymore. AHS ended up saying, "Okay, we'll replace the thing. You can order one from us or we can send you a check. You have to send the receipt in first of your new purchase dryer."

    I did that right away. That was at the beginning of November and I still haven't received the check. They said it will take four to six weeks. I called them up. When I finally got in touch with somebody, they said, "Oh, well, we never received it." I have confirmation from their mail server. I forwarded the original message and they were like, "Oh, we got it." One rep said, "Our system glitches." I said, "That's great, but you should be providing some sort of confirmation either way like, 'Hey, your email was received or we still have not received your email.'" So, I'm really thinking about dropping the service because the previous year, we had the washer replaced and it took us a year to receive payment for it.

    The thing is as mediocre as they are, they were infinitely better than Amazon Home Warranty services. Their customer service was really nice. She did get back to me and confirmed that my email was received. But now, we had to lay out the money upfront for the original service call, we're paying 130 bucks a month for the service, and we had to put out 1,200 bucks for a new dryer and they only cover about half of it. The reimbursement is not anywhere really close. They do offer their own dryers, but then we have one brand of washer, and it doesn't match the dryer. In the end, they do honor their warranty. So, we did have a heater issue and they were very quick and very responsive. When it comes to heating and cooling, they were really good but with the appliances, not so much.

    I had a clogged sink and I have a toilet that is leaking water from the flusher. The second company that was sent by American Home Shield came by. The first one never came. They claimed that they never got the work order and screamed at me, and the lady cursed me out because I did a bad review. The review said, “Oh, how was your job? The completed job.” So, I said that my job was never complete. It was never even acknowledged. I was really upset. After, I got someone from American Home Shield, and she was like, “Oh, how can you do a review in a company who don't have a work order?” Luckily, I had the dispatch number. So, I was like, “How come you're telling me that you don’t have a work order? I have a dispatch number right here.” She looked up the dispatch number. It was in the system. They did not fix it until now.

    The gentleman that came out here to fix it was like, “Oh, this is an old model.” I remodeled my house in 2010, so anything in my house is not more than 12 years. You’re not supposed to replace this item every few years, and it’s a Kohler model. The guy was like, “Oh, I don’t think that I am going to find the part. Every time you flush the toilet, you're gonna have to lift the handle back manually.” I was like, “You're kidding me, right?” If I have a guest at home or a baby at home, I'm gonna be running after everyone and just make sure the handle is up again so I don't lose water. I'm expecting my water bill to come crazy this month or this quarter because of the water leakage I have. Supposedly AHS is gonna send someone on the 26th.

    I wouldn't recommend AHS at this time. The major thing right now is there is no way that you speak to a supervisor. Yesterday, I was talking to a gentleman. His name was Damon. I've been calling every three days to see who's gonna come or if someone's gonna fix my issue or not or how long I'm gonna have to wait or why no one contacted me. It's not fair for me as a consumer, every time, to spend almost an hour and a half on the phone. I have a house to take care of. I have my job. My hand is full already. To spend an hour and a half on the phone every time, and then have to call back again because no one took care of the issue is not fair.

    The first claim that I did, it was a year ago with the same reason. Somehow on the bottom of the freezer in the back, there's a little hole and it had frozen. So, I'm just defrosting it, put a vacuum or heater in there and defrosted it and I didn't have any problems. But a year later, the same thing happened again. It started defrosting and leaking. I called American Home Shield that I have my policy through. They answered the first time around. But the contractor has to come back. There's something wrong with the seal now. You can feel the cold air coming out around the seal. And we looked at that the last time, but the gentleman that came out didn't have the right seal in his car.     The techs came out for the stove, and their work ethic was good. Initially, they missed the problem. I was trying to tell them there was something more going on and they came back. They realized that it couldn't be fixed. The part was no longer available and they replaced the stove. Prior to that, I had problems with it for three times and they came out, and I kept paying the service fee and I was struggling. I was ready to give up but in the end, it finally worked out.

    American Home Shield didn’t pay for the replacement in full. This part was unfortunate because the one that they said was equivalent was out of stock and they said because of COVID, a lot of things are backordered a few months. I can't go without a stove for months and that was concerning. So, they gave me $600 towards it. The same stove at Best Buy cost me $800 and with tax and delivery, I had to pay all that, which is normally included when you get a replacement through American Home Shield. The cost came to 888 so I still had to come out of my pocket, which wasn't great because I just retired early.

    AHS is good. We've been in this home 16 years. The previous owner had it and they included it for the first year as part of the closing cost and we continued it for the following 15 years. There are times when nothing ever breaks and we were gonna cancel. My husband said not to do it so I haven't done it. When I started, the fee to come out was small, which was $55. It's a long time ago. Now it's up to $100. But everything goes up. The contractors that AHS work with have been reputable. I only had one situation where the contractor took a month to come back to fix the sink and they said they were on a location and couldn’t do it. So that was bad. But I've advocated so I've also referred my other teacher friends who are homeowners to American Home Shield.

    There was a service that I paid a service fee for, but that service never happened and I was still charged for it even though the contractor never came out to the house. We canceled it the day of and I never got a refund for that fee. And I ended up having, a week later, to resubmit the same ticket again because the issue flared back up, so I paid twice for one solution. So if American Home Shield can do something a little better, it would be to help with those situations.

    The timeliness and the online experience are great. Getting in contact with AHS has been easy. Getting scheduled for maintenance and service happens very quickly. My only gripe would be the quality of the contractors that they use can be very hit or miss are you going to get a good AC guy or are you gonna get somebody who's going to cut some corners and just do whatever it is, because of the way AHS and that policy is structured. Other than that, everything has been straightforward.

    My furnace stopped working on a Friday. I made a claim with AHS that day. I got a call Monday. The tech knew exactly what to do. It was something in the motherboard where the relay arced. There was a fire inside of the furnace that shut the power to it off. There was a really funny smell in the house and the inside of the furnace was all covered with soot. The guy took all the inners out, put a new motherboard and new relays in, and got it all going again. I was very satisfied with the expertise he had. I really like AHS.

    AHS has been outstanding and the contractors we've had have been very decent, except for one or two. But they could improve by ensuring that when you pay the upfront fee for a service request, the contractors fulfill it. AHS should also check on it instead of leaving it up to me to check. We recently had a plumbing company that made some repairs and we're still having the same problem. We've tried calling the company but they're not returning our calls. AHS said that they were going to get a hold of them but I told them that the contractor was not going to call them back. And sure enough, they didn't call back.

    I had my locks rekeyed and the gentleman who came out did an excellent job. It was definitely a plus that AHS reached out to say that I had a rekey service that was part of my warranty. It was great being aware of the benefits that are available to me. I almost submitted a second claim because I had an issue with my dishwasher.     I recommend American Home Shield to people because the people that they've sent out have been very good. Clear Flow Water came out for a plumbing issue. They fixed the toilet and had to replace the heater. They did a beautiful job. They were a pleasure to work with. I could not have asked for a better company to come out if I had been able to search for myself. They were respectful and communicative. They were very clean in terms of what they did. They explained everything to me. However, the control panel on my dishwasher is still problematic. I had somebody come out and look at it. He said it needed to be replaced.     I had a furnace replaced through American Home Shield and the claims process was nice. It was just ordering the parts from American Home Shield. It took five weeks to get the part and I didn't have heat during those weeks. I was freezing. The contractor noticed the problem with the water here and they gave me a quote for $300 to do it but then they told me, “Just go through the warranty company ‘cause it'd be cheaper.” But it was $170 more expensive. I have a vent that's rotten out on the top of my water heater that leads to the chimney. So the fumes are not going to the chimney, they're just staying inside the basement. But the contractor never came out there. They just did a video call. I've been trying to get ahold of American Home Shield for the past couple of weeks and I haven't heard anything back.

    The faucet has been on and off. It was almost like water would pulsate out of it and squirt water out of the ball joint of that lever. Then the faucet would drip water. So it wouldn't shut the water off. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was super easy.     We moved into this property three years ago. I was told at the time that the pool filter was old, but it worked for two summers, and then in the middle of the third summer, it started not working. I tried everything I could. We called American Home Shield and asked them to send somebody out to take a look at the filter. The first guy they sent out didn't want to have anything to do with it. I mentioned a few other things. There was a leak in one place, and he got the part to fix the leak and he said he was done. I had to call American Home Shield back and I said, “Hey, he never fixed the filtration problem. He never addressed that at all.” I didn't want to be billed for another service call. I was trying to get them not to close that claim. The second guy that they sent out here replaced the filter.

    It's pretty easy to submit a claim to AHS. You just go online and go to the Home Shield site. They recognize it's your account from your phone number, so I don't have to look up an account. All I did was I checked my policy, and it said it covered the pool filter, I put in that the pool filter wasn't working anymore, and they sent out a pool guy.

    I would never use the first contracting company again. I came pretty close to dropping my American Home Shield policy. I was angry. There was nothing going anywhere. The guy changed an O-ring in one. I could have done that myself for three bucks, and he said it was fixed and he's done and he's out of here. There was no buy-off for me on him being done or not. Other than that, I love the second contractor they sent out. He took care of everything. As far as recommending AHS, it depends on the friend. If the friend is capable of doing things and has enough in his bank account to take care of home repairs, I would not use American Home Shield. If the friend was somebody who didn't want to deal with home repairs and was willing to accept that American Home Shield is going to find the contractor, I would definitely recommend them.

    The issue was with the dishwasher where it wasn’t draining. And the guy came out. He came back a week or two later and repaired it, but it's doing the same thing again. Somebody was supposed to come back out again Friday. I asked for a different technician. This particular technician was good. But he didn't speak English, so he wasn't communicating. But American Home Shield's rep said the way I can get another technician is I would have to pay another fee. So, I just told her to go ahead and send the same technician.

    At first, my husband got mad because I was talking to him and he was not saying anything. So I asked my husband, “Was he looking at you?” Because maybe he was deaf or doesn't speak English. So, he went back out and asked him, “Do you speak English?” He said, no. But he just used his hand. Once he fixed it, he just said, “Fixed. Okay.” We were trying to find out what he did or what was wrong. But he couldn't communicate that. But when I called back, this lady said he is one of their best technicians. And even though he didn't speak English, he was good.

    American Home Shield is a good coverage. We've been protected for five years now. They’re prompt and contractors come right out. And if something got wrong, like the second or third time, they don't keep on trying to fix it. They go ahead and send us a check or tell us what they can do to resolve that problem for us. Get AHS. They're very good. And the customer service is good. When I told the rep the tech didn't speak English, even though she had to send him back out, she just kept saying, “Just contact me and let me know how it goes.”

    I had an issue with the dryer and the heating element wasn't working. The tech came out to take a look and to fix it. I was told that the dryer itself was fine and it was an electrical problem.     There always seemed to be a disconnect between American Home Shield, the contractor and us. American Home Shield kind of did their thing and then we were told that somebody from Whitney would be over on a certain date and between these hours. But it seemed like American Home Shield never communicated or the repairman never had our contact information. They never had our phone number. They never had my wife's phone number to contact us when they were coming in, until they literally showed up and then they did their thing. But the repairman was a good guy and knowledgeable. The air conditioner wasn't cooling the house adequately. He ended up going over the unit and replacing the thermostat.

    The service repairman is coming out of Battle Creek, Grand Rapids. But we've got plenty of good repairmen in this area right here. We can get them in here typically within a day or two. We had a service request for the furnace itself, and it was the weekend before Thanksgiving. It got fairly chilly, and the furnace went out. We called American Home Shield and told them what the deal was and then they tried to get somebody. But it took 10 days from the time we called until the time the repairman got there.

    We got we got rid of American Home Shield in the past because it used to be very difficult and unfair. But it's much easier now. That is a huge improvement. You just call and don't just sit on the phone for an hour. But we thought a long time about not getting it back because they did a lot of things. You call them up and they get their contractor to come out. Then it's $100, but they don't cover it. When we got it back, we made sure that it has better coverage. We were shocked that they didn't pay for the toilet.

    A contractor came out for the toilet was broken. But they didn't fix it. We didn’t think that was fair. American Home Shield called and told us that the contractor said it wasn't some usual wear and tear. It makes no sense because it's not like there's anything we cut with. We had to pay for it ourselves. But for somebody like me, having American Home Shield is worth it. I can barely screw in a light bulb so we call for every little thing. It is $100 every time they come, but it's gonna be $100 regardless. Their contractor has probably been out a dozen times in the past to fix the dishwasher.

On a recent claim, North Pole Supply Company took a week before they could come out and then it took another week because they had to order a part.     I was having difficulty with my garage door. It wouldn't close. AHS sent someone over here who was able to fix the situation in 10 seconds. He realized immediately that the sensor that shows that there's something blocking the garage door was knocked out of place so the garage door thought there was something in the way and wouldn't close because of that.

    What I like about AHS is the people who they assign to help me are usually very knowledgeable and are able to fix the situation quickly. Most of the times that we've had them, they're very efficient when they show up and fix things correctly the first time. But there are issues with them that I'm not always happy with because very often, there are costs that are not covered by them that I don't anticipate. Also, sometimes I have to wait a long time before someone will show up to make the repairs.

    I like all the contractors. They've always been very good. But when my central air went to crap when it was 110 ou, I had a friend of a friend fix it because they couldn't come for days, but that happens everywhere. For my dishwasher, I had a contractor come out on November 28 and American Home Shield could either replace it or send you a check and you go out and get what you want. I plan on getting the check. But American Home Shield stopped trying to get back to you when checks are involved. Anything else is fine.

    One of the furnaces wasn't working, so the techs said we needed a part. Then when they came out to put the part, they were able to do something that was not part-related. So, they fixed it without having to actually change out any parts. They were good. The only thing is the first claim I had made me almost want to cancel with American Home Shield after my first year was paid for. Soon after we bought the house, we had a water leak in the wall. We called AHS to get it fixed. It was on a weekend. I had a friend of mine come and we cut out the drywall, so we could see where the leak was and kind of figure out what the source was before we even called to figure out what was going on. We kind of got it narrowed down. I was pissed because I had spent money on a call and nothing happened. The guy showed up, and he said, "Oh, well, this isn't covered by your warranty. But I can fix it. But I don't have the parts. I have to go get the parts."

    My parents were moving in with us. I said, "I need it fixed today." He was like, "Yeah. Well, let me go get this part. I'll get back to you." He left, never came back, and never answered any of my calls. I called their office. They never responded to my dissatisfaction with it. AHS said, "Well, this wasn't technically covered because the way it was and sorry." So, I almost canceled because what they were saying was, "Because here's a little exclusion from the clause." I got over that part but the guy never came back. I was like, "So are you guys gonna pay him for coming out?" They said, "Yup. Sorry. You gotta pay your balance." So, I paid for somebody that showed up, and then I couldn't get the claim done.

    I had to call my contractor buddy. He was like, "Okay. Well, at least we know what it is. Go to Lowe's and get the parts for me and I'll come do it at midnight when I get back." He was up there fixing it at 12 o'clock at night. This year instead of paying for a whole year, I'm doing month-to-month because I'm still deciding if I'm going to continue with American Home Shield going forward.

It was an overall smooth process. AHS is pretty responsive. They were quick to answer my phone calls and explained to me the bill.

    We're not happy with American Home Shield as far as what they are claiming that they cover or not cover. Their customer service was bad as far as they use everybody from foreign countries that can't speak English as their first language. It's really hard to get something resolved. The actual electrician that did the service had to call them and finally get through somebody in their billing department that did speak English to resolve the issue. But we liked the service as far as who they sent.

    The spring on our garage door snapped and the next day, the gentleman came out and repaired it. He knew what he was doing and he and his helper were done in 20 minutes. I put a better spring system in than what had been there previously so that it would be better equipped to handle the weight of the garage door. I paid the extra but the price was fair. The employee that came to do the work was excellent and knowledgeable so, I had no frustrations. It was seamless and very good. My experience with American Home Shield was very positive. It was a quick response with the people I talked to. We just sold our home. So, in good faith, we're going to buy one year of American Home Shield for the new buyer.

    I've had nothing but great experiences with their customer service and I've had good and bad technicians. But the guy that came out this past time was excellent. The faucet and sink were leaking and he repaired them. One thing I find that is a little bit difficult to maneuver is being able to determine what's covered and what's not. I have a plan that I signed up for but I can't find the document that says what's covered and where coverage begins and ends. For instance, I had a freezer that stopped working and it's an appliance but it's not covered by my policy. It was one of those surprises. It's not a bad thing to have things excluded but the information is just not available. They could have a list of exclusions so that people can change their policy easier or add on things to it.

    For the most part, I've had a positive experience with AHS. My refrigerator just broke and I have a brand-new refrigerator worth about $3,500 placed on order. They gave me the opportunity to either order a new fridge or take a cash out option, which was about the same amount that I paid for my fridge. Also, I've had three air conditioners replaced by them. It's not always perfect, but I feel like it's a good value and I'm pretty happy with using them. I have peace of mind.     I had a plumbing claim where they had to fix a leaking pipe. The only thing was this was an emergency service and there doesn't seem to be any way to indicate that this was of a higher priority or an emergency.
