When the plumbers came, they initially diagnosed the wrong thing. When I saw water was still leaking, I found where the leak was at. The plumber fixed my water leak but my walls and ceiling are still open. My sheetrock also hasn't been repaired. Once the plumber has finished, AHS should automatically have someone else finish the sheetrock and the wall.

Every time the techs come, they try and fix my refrigerator. The first guy thought he fixed it but then it started to do the same stuff all over again. The sensor board was replaced a couple of times. But there was snow all over the freezer and I couldn't keep anything in it. The last tech was great. He took the back off and it was all frozen. He finally declared it was dead. AHS sent us different options. We could get a refrigerator or we could go to Lowe's and have a certain amount but pay the delivery fee. So we went with the first option and they would bring it and hook it up. We got a notification yesterday that they are going to be delivering the replacement.

We are pleased with AHS. You need this home protection. It's the best. The customer service reps have all been nice.

I usually submit claims online, and it's simple. When my heater was not working, I did the claim around 11:00 pm, then a technician came in the next morning and right away, he told me what was wrong. The computer of the furnace wasn't sending the signal for the gas to open. He had to change that part and it had to be ordered. It was the weekend, and by that Tuesday, he had the part. He came out on Wednesday, and the issue was taken care of. Overall, American Home Shield is good. When I call them, they always help me. Their price is fair, and I found that they're the best in terms of coverage.

The service is great, but customer service is not that great. I don't know where the customer service line is from, but there is a language barrier. When I call, I don't ever get somebody that's fluent or understands what I'm trying to say. My last claim was during the holiday. It was for a water heater, and the gentleman said he couldn't get to my house for about five days, so I tried to call Home Shield. I was on the phone for three hours trying to get somebody and I asked them if I could speak to somebody that I could understand but they wouldn't pass me. So, I hung up and tried to call again to get somebody. After the third hour, I finally got ahold of somebody that was fluent and they helped me out. They told me what I needed to do.

I like American Home Shield. They're really quick on giving the contract to an individual or company, and then they call right away and that's very good. I already know who's gonna come to the house within hours of me making a claim, and the company American Home Shield contracts with is professional. They come out here, explain to me what's gonna happen, and all the information I need is there. They're very knowledgeable in their work and the policies. That's what I like.

Submitting a claim was pretty easy and their site is user-friendly. The techs have been okay. I had one bad experience with someone coming who didn't diagnose the problem correctly. I had a water leak and the tech diagnosed it so it could be turned down by American Home Shield and he can offer more services for his company. AHS sent out another company that was able to get the problem fixed. Everything else has gone fine.

American Home Shield saved me four times. One time, my heater went out. Another time, my AC went out. Then my hot water heater started leaking everywhere last week. All the things have been fixed in a timely manner. I can't say enough good things about American Home Shield. The technicians have been great. There were other guys that were all right. There's a shortage of workers possibly. One dude spoke good English. The other dude was sketchy. I noticed that they were here and I had to put my dogs in the room. One guy helped himself into my house. I don't want people just letting themselves into my house.

The hot water heater claim had an issue, but I don't think that fell on American Home Shield. The microwave I got replaced is making a weird squeaking noise, which leads me to believe American Home Shield can't make a profit if they're selling or producing top-end appliances for people. They gotta be able to make money somewhere. So, I'm wondering if the quality of the appliances is suffering. Overall, I tell everybody about American Home Shield. They saved me tens of thousands.

My AC started acting up. I was under the gold plan with American Home Shield. I had a vendor come out. They checked out the AC, told me what I needed. AHS called me and told me the price out of pocket would be about 2,000 something dollars. So, I thought about it. I called the day after and spoke to someone. I said, "I do not have $2,000 to fix this, but I know that your platinum shield plan will cover at least the Freon.” Because from what I was told, the Freon was $1,500. They cover the first $10 per pound, and I needed 15. It was a lot.

I said, "I hear that your next tier will cover that. If I get that, then would that cover what I need". And the person said, "Let me ask my supervisor." So they asked their supervisor, came back, said that I could get the platinum plan. It would cover everything that is needed. But in order for me to get my AC covered under the platinum plan, I would need to have a vendor come out again. This is all happened within three days of each other. So, I paid to upgrade. When I first got the gold shield plan, they had a special running where you get half off the normal price for the first year. So, I paid $419 for the year. When I upgraded, that promo was no longer running. So, I had to pay an extra 419 and 120, so 539 in order to pay the full price for the platinum plan, which is the next tier. And to have another vendor come out for the same issue, I had to pay $125 again.

The vendor came out and it has now been five days since the first vendor come out. The second vendor came out after I've had my AC off for those five days because of what the first vendor told me. And the second vendor was, "Your system has a slow leak, but it is not bad enough for insurance to actually cover it. So what I recommend is that you keep running your system and that when it gets bad again, then you give a call, your insurance. They'll have us come out and fix it." So I said, "Okay."

Recently, I got an email saying, "It's time for your free tune up. There is no cost to you for us to check your system. But if you need work, then there will be a cost." So, I had another vendor come out just to get my HVAC a tune up. And lo and behold, the issue that was happening in April and May is still happening. So, I called my insurance to get it fixed and they told me that because the work order under the previous plan I had was created under the previous plan is still a thing, I have to pay what I had under the previous plan, which is the $2,155.

I've called seven times in the past month. The first person that I talked to ignored what I said and did not bother to say anything about, "I see you have the new plan. But because it's an old plan, you're gonna have to pay the 2,000." So I said, "Okay. Can you tell me how much I would pay under my current plan for Freon? How much of that $2,000 is for Freon?" All of a sudden, I'm getting told, “I'll have to call you back tomorrow. I need to check some things." So, I got a call the next day and the lady said, "You're gonna have to pay the $2,000." And they sent us the authorization team a couple of times, and they denied it each time. They tried to get the AC covered under my new plan. I am now trying to get it canceled.

I called and asked to speak to the supervisor and for them to find the calls. I'm already hard of hearing. I would sometimes get somebody with an accent that I would have a hard time understanding. It has been a job just to try and get someone to understand what I'm saying and what happened. I'm tired of it. And it's hot here in Georgia or it's too cold. I need my HVAC. It's frustrating. I called somebody else last week, told them I was going to cancel and they said that they would liaise with the authorization team for me and update me this week. But I told them, "If y'all haven't gotten an answer by today, Tuesday, I'm just gonna cancel." Because I've already contacted another warranty company to get this fixed.

American Home Shield was excellent. The service is okay. When we needed a service call, they had someone come out and everything was fixed. Recently, we were having an issue with the furnace and somebody came out and fixed it. Everything was fine. We didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. Having the warranty works well because it seems like things break down when you least expect them to, and AHS was there. Sometimes, the people you speak to on the phone are not always that pleasant but at the end of the day, we get whatever repair fixed.

I've been with American Home Shield for a few months. There was a claim regarding my washing machine. I've been having some issues with it. Each time I load it up, whether the load is small or large, I hear some cracking noise, especially when it starts. This last time I contacted AHS, I heard the noise through the cycle from beginning washing and spinning. I was concerned that the washer would stop in the middle of the cycle. So, I contacted AHS to take a look at it and let me know what to do. The recommendation was to replace parts in the washer.

As far as submitting the claim, I went online and scheduled the appointment. They contacted me to come in and take a look at it. I described what was happening with the washer to the first technician who came in. He proceeded to order some parts to repair it. When the parts came in, they may have been damaged en route to my house. So, the second technician who showed up indicated that the parts were not usable. He proceeded to reorder the part, especially the one that appeared to have been damaged when it was being shipped to my place. In total, it didn't take very long. The first technician came in a week before last. When he ordered the part, I thought it would take very long but early the following week, all the parts came in.

The AHS technician tried to contact me a number of times to ensure the parts had been received before coming in, but I was so busy. I work from home and they were interrupting me during meetings. So, I did not respond to the call. The second technician, before leaving my house, ordered the same part to ensure that it arrived in a timely manner for them to come in and repair the washer. Now, it is operating okay. Overall, since becoming a member, I've been satisfied with some of the services I have requested from AHS. It is a good service. I've never been a fan of this kind of service and this is not the first home that I've owned but I've come to value the service they provide. I would recommend it to anyone. It's worthwhile.

I called American Home Shield on a Thursday night and put in a claim that my central air was not operating properly. The next day, I received a notice as to who it was going to be assigned. Since this was my first claim, I didn't know what was what. It was about 11 o'clock the next day when I received a call. I called American Home Shield, and they advised me that I could reach out to the company. I did reach out to them, and they told me that it would be Monday. They said that they were all booked up. I did call back to American Home Shield and asked them if there was someone else.

The company did let me know the block of time, which I didn't really care for because it was from 10:00 to 4:00. Normally when dealing with companies for whatever, they kind of block you four hours, but this was six hours. They showed up. They called when they were in my driveway and I reported that to that company. They finally admitted that it is their procedure for 15 minutes to 30 minutes that they will give a call. I said that did not happen.

The work was performed by the two technicians. One technician was specifically very personable. The other one was a little bit standoffish. However, he doesn't have to be all smiley face. They performed the job and later on that day, it got a little warm. So, I turned on the AC and it didn't work. I reached back out and went through the same procedure again. That was about 3:00 that day that I called American Home Shield. I didn't receive a call from that company for that the next morning. I was a bit flustered then. It's up to the customer and they need to be proactive and call.

They told me to give the company another chance. However, if this didn't work, they would have assigned another company. The more personable technician came out. He spent some time. We talked and seems like we got the problem taken care of. We tested it, which was something that didn't happen the first time. Then, they saw it was blowing cool air. The good thing was that when they came back out, it was the guy that was more of a smiley face. I told him, "I'm glad you are the person that showed up because I actually gave a favorable report for you and your partner." I didn't wanna dig into him any more than that and I just left it at that. I had to pay $125. I felt that that was reasonable. Every time I spoke to someone in American Home Shield, everybody was professional. I did talk and make several calls and it was different people, and everybody was courteous and trying to take care of me.

I recommend American Home Shield. I like that a lot of times I don't have to come out of my money with a big payment. It gives me peace of mind. And AHS send guys out twice a year if I call for free maintenance. And they all are thorough. The last got better, because sometimes it would take a while for them to assign me. And one thing I don't like with them is I have a certain company that works on my unit all the time and they know our unit, and a lot of times they don't wanna assign me to that company. I know that company could be busy and AHS may have to assign with another company. But I usually know a company that comes out and they know my unit.

I thought I smelled gas in the furnace. But when AHS told me the contractor was coming out, because I called the company that has the furnace, and they told me don't worry about it because there was nothing wrong with the furnace. But I found out there was a gasoline container that I had in my garage. May Heating came out and checked. They said there wasn't a problem. They did the service, whatever is free the first trip they came out. They could come out again for free for the same problem after 15 days. But I canceled them.

They sent me an appointment. The night before they would come out, it was after 6:00 when they texted me, and they said they were coming out the following day. So, I texted them back and said, “I no longer need your service because I got the problem resolved.” Because there was some gas inside the garage. But the guy still came out. He called and said he was on his way. So, I said, “I did text you. You text me very late at night, after 6 o'clock, said you were coming out. You didn't even give me any notice, even though I did give you whatever. The problem has been solved, so I don't need you to come out.” So, they didn't have to come out.

My refrigerator was not cooling and I notified American Home Shield about this through a phone call. Getting through a rep wasn't difficult. They sent an email stating who the service company was going to be and that they would be giving me a call. They were excellent. They were able to tell me what the problem was and how the problem was going to be executed. They kept me abreast about what was going on all through the process. On one of the days that they weren't able to show up as initially stated in the email, the vendor assigned to get it done reached out to me to tell me that there was some logistics issue with his car and he wasn't going to do it on that day. He scheduled it for another day. On the day that he said he was gonna come in, he was able to come take care of the issue.

American Home Shield is great. I have a policy with them in Richmond, Virginia and one in Silver Spring. The one in Richmond has been about going five years. The one on Silver Spring is almost 10 years now. I like the ability to have coverage for appliances and devices that can break down unexpectedly. I recommend American Home Shield. Give them a shot. The only thing they need to work on is their premiums are a little higher. If they can review my premium, that'd be great.

We've had to have some new plumbing in the kitchen. We had to have a leak fixed under the house. We've had to have our range fixed three times. I did have a little bit of an issue. I wasn't really happy. The motherboard inside the range went bad so that it wouldn't heat up. The first time, it wouldn't heat up. The second time, it wouldn't heat down. The first time that we had it done, AHS sent somebody out here. We were supposed to have the whole piece, but they only brought the motherboard in hand, and it only lasted three months and then it went bad. So, we had to pay for full service all over again to have it replaced.

When I make a claim with American Home Shield, I call them. I pay my deductible and they assign a service request order number. They reach out to somebody local that they contract with, whether it be an HVAC company, electrical company, or plumbing. They also provide me with the name of that company if I wanna call them directly rather than wait for that company to reach out to me, which I always do because I need to do it around my work schedule. They see the work order come through and I say, “Can we go ahead and schedule the appointment?” And we do. After the service is completed, American Home Shield sends me an email to close the loop and just ask me how that company was. I give them my honest opinion.

American Home Shield's contractors are really good. The HVAC person I had was amazing. My unit is 40 feet up on the roof. Most companies do not come out. It took us a minute to find somebody with American Home Shield that would get up there. They didn't have a person so it took us calling a bunch of places that they contract with to find out if they would be willing to get up there. Most of them have to lean one ladder and climb up one ladder to get to the destination. But none of them would do that because they said, “It's a two-ladder pull.” I said, “No, it's not. You use the same ladder. You use one ladder to get up to the top of my patio and then you pull that ladder up. And then you go to the top.” You don't need a 45-foot ladder.

We ended up finding our own person and it just so happened they contract with American Home Shield. We wrote their name down, knowing that we have a roof that not a lot of local companies will go on because of the height, because it's a condo. We kept their phone number so we'll just specifically request them if we have an HVAC issue because we already know who is able to do it. The tech got up there and fixed our HVAC unit. It was a wiring issue that could have burned the place down. They were amazing so I've told other people about them. That was a really good experience.

When I bought this place two and a half years ago, part of what we negotiated within the price was for one year that we’d be protected by the home warranty stuff. We went through American Home Shield and I would just have to pay the deductible. After the one year was up, we had to use it one time during that time frame of the dishwasher. After the one year was up, they said, “Do you wanna renew with us?” And I said, “Well, let's negotiate the price.” I was able to negotiate a better price than what they originally quoted me. And so, then I said, “Yeah. Then I'll do it.” I paid them. I pay the monthly premiums myself now. Whenever I need a service, I call them and pay the $100 deductible and it's really easy. I feel better. I know a lot of people don't like home warranty companies, but it's covered three pretty big things for me so it's been worth it for me.

They sent an electrician out when the outlet on my patio didn't work. I got an appointment within a couple of days and that was great. I asked for a specific day and they were able to accommodate it. The electrician came out, identified the problem, and fixed the outlet within 15 minutes. I'm glad I did American Home Shield. The HVAC issue was huge and that would have been very costly had I not had the warranty. And getting an electrician out here, I was happy to pay the $100 deductible to get that issue fixed after two years of not having any power on my patio.

I had a plumber come out and fix under my sink and it just cost me a flat fee. I called in because my pipes under the sink were rusted out and I wanted it to be replaced, but American Home Shield put it down as a faucet with that. They tried to charge me a double fee and I said, "Absolutely not." They had that recorder on and it wouldn't listen. So, when I got the call from the plumbing company, I let them know that it was not my fault. I explained to the rep what was wrong. I didn't call in for my faucet. I called in for the pipe under the sink. So, they fixed it. The company canceled that and redid it, and the rep said they didn't charge me a double fee. So, I'm waiting for my Visa to come through to make sure they didn't.

That automatic system that I call in sucks. I have to keep calling AHS back and wait and get the same recorder. And it's not what is wrong and I would try to correct it but it wouldn't let me. They need to update it so I could talk to a person to explain. If it wasn't for the fact that it's a good deal and the people they send to my house are good, I would have dropped them two times ago. But I like the people they send out. Those that come out for my air and the plumber are very professional. I just have to make sure that the correction is in and they don't charge me a double fee.

Everything was fixed in about two to three weeks because we were waiting on parts. I had a good experience, but I would not recommend AHS. This is the third time I called them on the same issue and the other people said they can't fix it. They don't have the parts. They were telling me it was an electrical problem. It wasn't a refrigerator problem. It took three times for me and I had to pay out of pocket the other two times, too. Also, when I talk to them on the phone, the customer service is horrible. I'm gonna be changing another company because it's too expensive. I can pay with another company the same amount I pay for one year and they give me three years.

For a day and a half, I didn't have heat. The AC unit would click on and click off. I turned it off because we had some nice days where I didn't need heat in the evening. When the temperature dropped back down and I needed heat, I turned it back on and it started making a really loud weird noise. It would click on for a little bit, heat up a little bit, and then just click off.

I called 1st Choice Quality because the last time I had an issue and I had done a claim through American Home Shield, they were the ones that were sent out. Since 1st Choice Quality did a good job, I started a maintenance plan with them. I was like, “Okay. I don't wanna file another claim right now. I'll just see what it is. It may be something minor. And I'll just pay out of pocket for it.”

When the serviceman got out here and did the diagnostic test, he told me that the fan was gone. I asked how much the fan was and he told me the price. I could not do that price. He said, "Your only other option is to go ahead and call your service warranty company, let them know we're already out here, and we are vendors for them, and see if they will just take our word for it. But then just keep in mind they may send somebody else out ‘cause they have their own protocol.” I called American Home Shield and I spoke with the representative. It took a while because at first, she said they were gonna send out a company that they had previously sent out for a plumbing issue. I said, “Why would you send them out when we already got the company that you sent out the last time I had an AC issue?" It was a lot of back and forth.

I said, “I don't really have time. I’m a disabled vet. I’m cold. I need my heat. Can I speak to your manager?” She said she didn't have a manager so I said, “Oh, yeah, you got a manager. We all got managers...” She went away for a while then came back and asked about the company that was with me at that time. I told her 1st Choice Quality. I had already given her my credit card information for the deductible. She put me on hold for a few minutes and then transferred me to her supervisor. I explained to him the situation and he said, “Oh, yeah. They're already there. They're a vendor of ours. We’d go ahead and use them.”

Because it took so long, the serviceman had to leave because they had other customers that they had to go to. The supervisor wanted to speak to the person and I said, “He's gone because I've been on the phone for about 30 minutes, trying to get this taken care of...but he emailed me the information and he told me just to let him know what the outcome is. And then he will have their office order the part. And he could be able to come back out the next day if that company was approved." American Home Shield went ahead and approved that. They called the main office and gave him a work order number. They ordered the part and the next day, 1st Choice came out and installed the part.

All in all, I'm not very dissatisfied with American Home Shield but sometimes they take you through so much. For instance, I had to pay twice for a unit that I got. Something was wrong with the unit. Whatever the repairman did, it lasted for 45 days then it went out. I called and American Home Shield made me pay another deductible even though it was on the same problem and it was the same heating unit. They said it was out of the 30 days. I said, “Yeah. It's out of the 30 days, but it's not like I'm asking for something for my washer or my dryer.” Sometimes, the policy is not really looking out for the consumer. It’s more about making money.

Despite that, I do tell people about American Home Shield because we live out in a rural country. Sometimes, you get a handyman and little people who can do little things. I personally don't like using them because there's no guarantee. Something breaks and they don't fix it. You might not be able to reach them for a month or so. That's why I like my warranty company. I've had good service through them. It's just it takes a lot and you have to really be forceful.

I got my mom on the plan as well. She is 83 years old. She's been without heat for almost a month because of the company that American Home Shield sent out. They're saying they ordered the part and it's on backorder. I called them several times. My mom needs heat and we had to keep checking on her. She's got a little gas heater that she was using as her backup. But she had to stay in her bedroom. She's got a little electric heater in her bathroom and then she's got the gas heater in her bedroom. That's dangerous for 83-year-old. The service company still had not come out. I contacted the actual company and they said they still haven't gotten the part yet. It shouldn't take that long to get a part, especially for somebody that's 83 years old. They had been out to her house before for the unit having problems.

I've had American Home Shield in my old address for years. I got the tune-ups in the winter and the check-ups in the spring. I had to use it for a refrigerator, a garbage disposal 13 years ago. When I moved in here, the previous owners left their washer and dryer. The dryer was not working. The guy came out and got it working, but it smelled like burning rubber and he didn't seem concerned about that. He apologized. He said it was probably an old belt that needed to warm up. But he was an awesome person and we laughed about it and tried to figure out how old it was. At that point, I had already made up my mind I would buy a new one.

AHS replaced my blown hot water heater but I still had to pay $1,800. I questioned why my part was so much. It was $3,000 to replace it. I had the Big Daddy. It's 50 gallons or more, which is unusual. AHS told me $1,800 was all they would cover. So, I had to pay that. Other than that, I've been happy. I could have had to pay a lot more if I didn't have it. Since I live alone, it's a security that I got somebody to reach out to say, "Help." It's a relief on my mind. Just like we've got health insurance, our house needs health insurance sometimes.

Crispy Air diagnosed the air conditioner because the compressor locked out due to overheating. They brought out a compressor to install it and they were able to turn the compressor on the old one. But they found a leak and they put in new Freon. They were out in about 50 minutes. They were good guys. I've had AHS for a long time and the only problem I've ever had with them was a thing on replacing a shower valve. They only do cartridges. Outside of that, they've been very good about everything and most of the contractors are good people. They've got some subs that didn't work out too well but for the most part, they have been very good. Also, their pricing is okay. When you're down here in the desert with four heat pumps, refrigerators, and everything else that can go wrong and the cost of everything these days, insurance is the smart way to go.

Also, I call them to file claims and I’m in no way prejudiced but you just can't understand the reps sometimes. I'm having a problem right now where the motor went out in my furnace. I had been calling and they weren't understanding.

First, they were telling me that I had an order put in for floors. They got past that and gave me a company that I didn't want because I read the reviews on them and they were really bad. The young lady told me that she would go ahead and cancel the order. But she didn't cancel it because that company eventually called me back and said that they had to order from American Home Shield. They had to cancel it on their end. Then, American Home Shield got me another company and I had to call and make sure that they didn't cancel the order that I previously had. It's stuff like that that's irritating.

I called American Home Shield a couple of times and the reps were very nice. One time, it was out of the state and the rep wasn't clear. He was repeating whatever question I asked, and I knew that he was reading a scripture. He wasn't answering my question. So, I was dissatisfied. But the contractors came out fast enough. But unfortunately, they misdiagnosed my heating system. The technician said that there was carbon monoxide and he shut off my heating system. They told me that I needed a new heating system, which would cost $8500. I got four other plumbers on my own. I paid from my pocket to them just to make sure. They tested the carbon monoxide in my house. I have seven detectors and nothing has happened. They fixed my heat system and it's working. I didn't need to change my heating system. So it was all a scam. I'm very, very disappointed with Home Shield.

When I canceled my service, the rep started scaring me that there was carbon monoxide. Everybody came and tested and I have been in the house since yesterday, I haven't died yet. I'm still alive. There's no carbon monoxide in the house. That's not nice what they're doing to customers. Yesterday, I bought four of the five detectors, that my husband installed, and every one of them is okay.

We have a Whirlpool refrigerator and we were changing the filter. We are on well water, which means that there's much more sediment than you would typically get on a city municipal water system. When we changed the filter, the water flow suddenly stopped. One of the procedures is that you're supposed to run 128 ounces through and throw it away once you replace the filter. We were about halfway through that, and water just stopped coming. So, that was when we initiated the claim with American Home Shield.

A fellow came out and in fairly short order. It was difficult because this is not a refrigerator you can just pull in and out of the space. It's sort of completely physically mounted to the entire opening and screwed in. So, it's difficult to take a look and see what was going on. But he was able to fairly quickly figure out that our issue was the valve had become fouled. So, that was why when you put your cup up to the water, nothing would come out. You'd hear a click but no actual flow would happen. So, we had a damaged valve, and it needed to be replaced. This was in July and he gave us an initial estimate of the beginning of September for when the part would be available. It was on fairly deep backorder. So, we checked in at the beginning of September and they said, “Oh, now, it's gonna be the end of September.”

We checked at the end of September and they said it might be another month. This was through the actual repair folks that we were interacting with directly, Shaw's Appliance. They said, “We're really sorry, but we only have the information that Whirlpool gives us in terms of availability. But just keep checking back.” Shortly after that September 26th phone call, the part came in. So, that was great. The guy came out, replaced the part and took off. I was very satisfied with the technician from Shaw's. He really earned his pay later on because within 24 hours, I noticed that there was water leaking from underneath the refrigerator.

I called him and he was in the middle of his dinner. He lived near me and he stopped his dinner and came right over because the idea of water leaking behind the refrigerator that you can't move and you can't see what's actually going on is an emergency type situation. He said, “The part they gave us is bad.” When they restocked this particular part, they got at least one additional unit. Because this time, the wait on the part was more like a week. When the part came, I got a call back and a guy came out and was very thorough in the installation and then walked me through some ways that I can keep an eye out for water leaking. Over the past couple of weeks, everything has been fine.

Between the Whirlpool refrigerator and the heater, we had some heating issues very soon after we moved in, and American Home Shield saved me a lot of money. For the refrigerator claim, I paid the $75 service fee initially to set up the appointment and I've had two in-home visits from a technician. That's a pretty good savings over what I would have had to pay out of pocket. Everybody I've dealt with at American Home Shield has been awesome.

I had no power to my thermostat. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield's website. Originally, I thought it was an HVAC unit concern because my heater wasn't turning on. Then the HVAC technician came out and said, "No, the unit itself is working properly. It was the fact that there was no power going to the unit. I then put in a second claim to have an electrician come out to see what the power was. The issue was in the power. So, the first claim was through the HVAC, and the second claim was through an electrical concerning no power. I paid two co-pays.

The tech from Safewire was a good guy. He came in, saw that the thermostat wasn't powered, so he went back to the breaker box and then could see that a breaker was not resetting. He did a little systems check. He checked all the breakers, but it was the one to the HVAC. Both the heater and AC were connected to one breaker. So, he took that dead breaker off and then put two individual breakers. So, they'll be pulling from HVAC through one breaker and the heater through the other. In the check, he noticed a burnt component that was not looking good and he had me look at it. He fixed it.

So, initially, the thermostat came on, my HVAC unit was able to start up right away, and then closed everything up. He said he was gonna look into this other piece that he said could be an issue in the future, and that he doesn't know if that was the cause to whatever led to the breaker going out. We're doing really good. AHS is easy to work with. They come in and get things either replaced or repaired and it's a quick and easy experience. They're really good. That's why I continue to renew the yearly membership. If something goes wrong, I don't think about it. I just contact American Home Shield and they send out a technician right away.

Also, at times, I don't think AHS is worth the money. Some of the contractors they send out here are a little less to be desired and I don't think they're very selective on their contractors. The pool guy is really good but we have to specifically ask for that company because they'll send out another company that has ripped us off before.

Two or three years ago, we had a bad snowstorm and temperatures were well below freezing. It’s not a regular thing here in Texas. We had a crack in one of the pipes and when I called, I told the person that and that they're gonna have to wait until the snow melts because you can't really see the equipment. The pool company in McKinney, Texas called me and their tech said he was on his way out. I told him he was not gonna be able to do anything but he came out anyway.

My wife was working from home. She heard him pull up in the driveway in the back and he went through the gate to the pool equipment, peeked around the corner of the fence, got back in his van, and started to drive off. She opened the garage door and was flagging him down. He looked at her but kept driving. Then, we got a phone call from somebody saying that he said we needed a brand-new filter at the cost of $3,000 but he didn't even look. I called AHS and requested for a different guy who had been here before to fix it. He fixed it for the deductible and it’s been working fine since.

I had to have a door replaced on the washer, and I had to have some knobs fixed on the stove. The person's attitude was pleasant. One visit was to initially assess what needed to be done, and then the second visit, which was about a week later, was them fixing the issue. It took about two hours to fix both issues. I would like American Home Shield to be a little quicker. But for the money, they're worth it.

We had this fridge that broke and the claim is still not resolved. It's been forever and not having the fridge working is a major headache. The year before, we had another fridge break and the attitude was totally different. The claim was resolved super fast. This time, the tech got to see the fridge very quickly but after that, there was nothing. I went to check with American Home Shield but their system didn't even show he had visited. I called the contractor and they didn't know they had already visited. They said that they already sent the estimate for a part and it was in AHS's hands to decide what to do.

All I got was a message from AHS that they had to examine our eligibility. We got the insurance having the impression that all appliances were covered. If that changes when we actually need insurance, I intend to move to a different company with all three properties ‘cause that's very wrong. Also, it's unlikely they'll find a part ‘cause they don't make the fridge anymore. It's a very good fridge, but it's old.

We had an icemaker checked. There had been two other techs who had looked at it. The last tech replaced tubing at the back and it helped to some degree with the water dispenser issue that we had. But he didn't fix it and the ice is still clumping together. But it's something we can live with. AHS's contractors are very professional. They're good at calling to say if they're gonna be late. I knew exactly when to expect them. It's been a very good experience with AHS. Do your warranty with them.

The contractor was polite. The tech explained everything he was doing. He was pleasant and polite. He told me the fire of the heating didn't come up because of the weather. It wasn't cold enough out there. But he tightened all the wires up. I asked questions and he explained it. I said, "I don't mean to ask all these questions, but I just like to know." He said, "I'm glad you asked. People need to know what somebody is working on and what they're doing." I was very comfortable with him in my home. AHS needs to get somebody who can speak English. The rep could barely speak it. I couldn't understand a word she said. Also, every time I turn around, AHS is going up in price. I don't like that and that they don't inform me about it. Other than that, I've had a good experience with them.

Underneath the sink, the sump pump was not working. When I run my dishwasher, it would overflow underneath. The tech noticed that the drain was leaking too. He fixed the drain and said, "There's nothing wrong with your sump pump. It's working now." But it was getting hung up. After he left, I had to fix it. I took it out from underneath the sink, took it apart, cleaned it all up and had it working briefly. But the switch was probably bad in it. I didn't want the same people that came back before. AHS sent another guy out here who said it was shot and that it wasn't working. So they replaced it.

I like that in having AHS, it's nice to know if I have anything that breaks down, I can possibly get it fixed. However, if I'd call up there, it would be nice to be able to talk to somebody who could understand English. Sometimes it also could take a few days up to a week for somebody to get out here. I don't know how they respond if the emergencies are acted upon in that timeframe. That's not very good.

I had an issue regarding my microwave. It wouldn't warm the food and the door wouldn't close. I was told that a tech would reach out to me within 24 hours via email or phone call when I submitted a claim online. Via email, I received a notification that a Sears tech would be servicing me. The service provided by the Sears techs was A-plus. I really enjoyed them. Very polite, did the work and didn't leave a mess. They also answered questions that I asked. Currently, the microwave is working well, like back to its usual self.

Initially, I was with AHS when I bought my home in 2020. A friend referred me to them. There was a discrepancy with American Home Shield that I had and I didn't appreciate it. I had requested for a tech to come. I was given a phone number. I called the person continuously. The service person never answered. It got to the point, the dispatcher tried calling them and still didn't get a phone call. At that point, I was upset because here I was giving my information to an individual and they all didn't even know this individual. So now, this person has my information. I was upset over that. So I discontinued my service. But early part of this year I started back up. Now that I'm with them again, I have been referring people to go with AHS.

We've had good success with a couple of issues and not great success with a couple as well. We had an air conditioning issue that really didn't get resolved. We had somebody come out and look at it a couple of times, but nothing really changed with the performance. They did some routine maintenance and that was it. We gave up at that point. In terms of the vendor selection on the air conditioning issue, I wasn't really impressed with the vendor that was selected. We also had an issue with the shower that ended up being the shower itself, and like the tub itself, wasn't covered by the warranty. But we had a refrigerator issue that got resolved well. Overall, my experience with AHS has been positive.

We were having some issues with our refrigerator unit. American Home Shield sent a vendor who was extremely rude and unprofessional. They recorded when they were in our home and brought their nine-year-old child while they were doing the repairs. They said they had done the work and left. But the problem continued. When they came back again, they were being rude. At one point, I had to tell him to stop because I was gonna call my husband. The tech said, "You don't have to bother your husband." And my husband heard that he was raising his voice at me. And he came from the other side of the house and he said, "You know what? Stop talking to my wife like that. Get out of our house." My husband said it was very unprofessional for them to bring a child to do the work. The tech said that he always brought the child because she was a witness. My husband told them to leave our home and that we would call AHS to send someone else.

F.A.S Appliance came and located the problem. We were told they were going to order parts to fix our unit. But someone called me and said that the parts were no longer available. Then they ordered a replacement unit. They had to wait because when the unit came in, I told them not to do anything because I was getting my roof repaired. When that finished, they were able to put the unit on the roof. The differences in the service we received from the first vendor and F.A.S was night and day. AHS has also sent other vendors and we've always been very happy with the service that we received.

I like having the AHS warranty and knowing it's there. I submit my claims to them online, which is easy. Recently, the power went out to our master closet and the breaker didn't trip. So instead of me fiddling with it, because it's electricity, I called someone in. R&R Electric's tech came out and he was wonderful. My mom's elderly and she was using the restroom which is in the master bedroom, and he came right when she went in there, so we sat and talked for 10 minutes until she came out. Then, it took him five minutes to get the issue fixed.

Also, I have two refrigerators and I had to do claims on both of them. The techs who'd come out have always said what was wrong, if they had to order a part and how long it was going to be, and when they'd be back. All in all, the AHS warranty is a great product. I'm a real estate agent and I offer this one to my clients. I tell them that I use American Home Shield so I can give them examples for that company. I provide the knowledge to them and let them choose.

I know everything is modern and everybody wants to go to computers. But not being able to call someone and talk to somebody when you got a problem is pretty bad. When my hot water heater went out, we typed it on the computer that the hot water heater went out. But AHS sent the job to a company that did heating and air. We found out when the company called us. I asked them if they worked on hot water heaters and they said no. So, I was trying to call AHS and there was nobody to call. There was a number but only their vendors that they use had the number to reach AHS at. I had to wait for that vendor a day later to reach out to them and tell them that they didn't do water heaters.

Meanwhile, my family was without hot water for a week before this got resolved, which was terrible. I had to put my family to get a hotel that was three miles away so they could take showers. If there was somebody who could pick up the call, that could have been resolved a whole lot quicker even though there was a mistake made. I also had to pay for the parts for my hot water heater and I had to pay the techs to expedite the repair because I got tired of sitting around with no hot water. I called AHS one other time and it was done by computer as well but there wasn't a problem.

The process went very quickly and easily. The contractor, Pruitt Plumbing, sent the people over and they did a really good job. I had a plugged-up drain and they fixed that. I also had two garbage disposals that didn't work and they put new ones in. Then, there was a pipe on it that was broken and they fixed that. Aside from that, they put in a new faucet and I paid extra to have them put in my dishwasher. They did that all at once and it took close to three hours to finish. But when I first got the warranty, AHS told me the deductible would be $75. This time when I called them, they charged me 100, so I was a little upset about that. I chose both of them and then I put the serial number and that worked.

A tech came out and reviewed it. He turned the unit on and then went home. It took him a day to put a request in for replacement because he was concerned about repairing it since it was overheating. The service company is finished with their part. They only came to troubleshoot it and to see if it could be repaired and put a recommendation in and did a good job on that. We're not finished with the claim yet and I'm still waiting for the replacement. So far, American Home Shield has been good except it takes forever to get the products. It's been two weeks now that we are without a unit.

The American Home Shield website I would be getting an email. It would be nice if I could log on to the website and get where the status is on the claim. The only option I saw in there was the alternative payment offer. I had to call and I had to be handed over to the appliance company and they sent me a website where I could then choose. Why couldn't that be all part of the process on the website? The email was good but put the information on the website toon because the email that they sent me went into spam. I initially called American Home Shield because the bathroom was running. Water was squirting out of the bathroom faucet. When you turned it on, it wasn't flowing smoothly. It would spout out. Also, to check a leak in the washing machine. There was a leak in the hot water faucet. The faucet was fixed. The toilet wasn't running when he came. When I called to have it checked, it was quiet. It stopped running. So, he didn't do anything to the bathroom and the toilet, but it still runs off and on now. It's an ongoing thing. All he did with the washing machine was tighten one of the knobs and one of the screws to stop the leak. I asked him if that pipe had to be replaced. He said it was fine and it was just that the turning knob was loose. That was why the water was leaking.

He tightened the knob but he tightened it so much that I could not untighten it, which I needed to do because I put the hoses wrong. He didn't touch the hoses. So, someone suggested changing the hoses from the washing machine instead. But I thought the faucet that he had tightened was on the off position because it looked like it was in the off position. So, I began to unloosen the hose in the back of the washing machine. That was a mistake on my part because water gushed everywhere. I couldn't connect it back. I couldn't turn the faucet because he tightened it so tight, and so I was stuck. Luckily, the laundry room door is facing outside, and I was able to stretch the hose out towards the door. All the water started gushing out of the door.

I called the plumber the day he left because I did laundry and I put it in cold, but I got hot water. My laundry got washed in hot water. So, that was when I found out he did it too tight. I called them back that day and I said, “Hey, can he come back? He did it too tight. And I gotta switch the hoses.” They said, “Well, can't you just find somebody else, some guy to do it?” I told them that I just moved up here and I didn't know anybody. I said, “He's the one that did it, so I assume he can come.” The rep said, “He won't be down there till Monday.” I said, “Okay. I'll wait till Monday.” But they forgot about me.

They never scheduled an appointment. So I ended up hiring a plumber and I got lucky. He happens to live in my neighborhood and he turned off the water from the street and he was able to fix it. So I'm not gonna hire that plumber again. But that has nothing to do with how I communicated with American Home Shield. They were fine.

My concern is that when you have one serviceman in one area and he's at another house, it might take him longer. AHS should always have a backup and not just have one serviceman in each area. Also, they don't cover everything. They cover some of the appliance, but not the garage. Other than that, I would tell others it's a good service to have.

When I reach out to American Home Shield in the evening, it's fairly difficult to get an actual person. Usually by the time I'm able to call, everything is closed. When I needed some updates done to the electrical panel, I liked the timeliness of the tech coming out and explaining everything. Everything that he checked and what I was sharing with him that the inspector had said was an issue. But when he looked at it, he said it was not an issue and then he explained why. So all of that was great. The only thing I'm missing is a follow-up email. So I'll reach out to them.

I've used American Home Shield over the years and I've had pretty good service. For all the things that you don't know and understand, there's an expert on the other end of the line. Then they come out and take care of it for you. But I hate that all the prices keep going up every year, especially the payment that you have to do that was once 75 and now it's 100. When I started, it was only 55 a month and now it's 85.

Our dishwasher stopped working and I called American Home Shield. Nobody answered the phone. It was just an automatic recording that asked me what was wrong. I told them the dishwasher and they said they were sending a tech out and they sent me a text saying it would be Runyon Appliances. Then they contacted me in 24 hours. The technician came out and said the motherboard was bad and we needed to replace it. So, they ordered one. When it came in, they came out and put it in. Then the fuse went out, which he said was fairly common. When you put a new motherboard in, the fuse will go out. So, he put a fuse in and that worked fine.

With American Home Shield, I like that I don't have to look around for contractors and they have pretty much done their due diligence on their professionalism and the quality of work they do. If something goes wrong, I know I can get it fixed quickly. They've been very good for us. I'm very satisfied and I've told other people about it and they signed up with American Home Shield.

We did a claim for our dryer that cost us $100 for the guy to come out. Then we just had a problem with our garage door and it also cost us $100 for them to come out. The tech was here for about 10 minutes. He said it was an adjustment, and that was that. We could have gotten the people that sold us the garage door opener out here for less than $100. So American Home Shield is just not working for us. We've spent over $1,000, and right now, it's not seeming to be worth it.

I called American Home Shield to say we were gonna cancel it. I called at 8:30 at Eastern Standard Time and the rep was gonna transfer me to whatever department that was to cancel it. Then he came back and said that they don't open until nine o'clock. So I was gonna call back at nine o'clock. When I called back, I got a young lady, and she couldn't find our account. She said, “There's something wrong with the system or something. There must be something wrong with the system or you’ve given me the wrong number.” I repeated the number and the address. She was nice enough but whatever the case was, she just couldn't find us in the system by our phone number or the account number that we had. So then we hung up.

About half an hour later, I called them back and I got another young lady and she was able to help us. I don't like that on October 27th, we paid $80 for the monthly payment and I'm presuming that was for the month of November. But on top of that, they charged us another $80 for a cancellation fee. So, I wasn't happy with that.

Also my refrigerator had two things wrong with it that they fixed last week. The claims process was really quick and easy. I just went online and told it was my refrigerator. That was on a Friday after 6:00, and somebody was contacting me on Sunday afternoon to set an appointment for Monday.

The tech was really professional and showed up on time. I asked him if he could call when he was on his way so that I wouldn't have to miss any time at work, and he gave me a 30-minute heads up that he was on his way. He got in and diagnosed the problem quick. He did have to order part, so he had to come back another day. But even when he came back, it was a quick fix. He came in, got it done, and no issues. If I did not have American Home Shield, I would have had to buy a new refrigerator. So it definitely saved me some money.

AHS put a hot water heater in recently and I am completely pleased with them. I made the claim online and their website was okay. I'm old and I was able to do it. Then, the contractor did all the communication through text. I got the name and phone number of the contractor but I didn't talk to anybody but the technician. He was a doll and he didn't want banana bread.

I was totally tickled with AHS in California and I wouldn't have gone to any other company because I am totally thrilled with them. They replaced my air conditioner in California complete with a crane because it was on the roof. It was a $12,000 job and I paid $2,000. I like that the service doesn't cost me. I talked to this young man about what a new hot water heater would cost and he told me the amount. And I ended up paying 300 plus my service call which was less than a third of what a new one would cost me. So with AHS, I don't have to have thousands of dollars on hand if something breaks. The year before last, the techs also came out, looked at my fridge, and discovered that the issue wasn't my fridge at all. It was a breaker.

So I circled back and they got it rescheduled with somebody else. And it worked great. The guy who came was really helpful and nice. He said it was the compressor, the little black thing in the AC box out on the side of my house, and that there was a little silver thing that feeds into that compressor that was causing the issue. He got that fixed and the AC is working now. It's been pretty easy to work with AHS and they're able to get the service source fast. The communication’s there and the warranty is a good security blanket.

But there's no place to include notes. You can only do a couple of key tick boxes, unlike when I do a claim over the phone with them, I can give them the explanation then they always put that in the file so that the contractor who gets it gets all that information. Other than that, I got the name and contact information of the contractor and STA Services came out. Working with them has been pretty good. American Home Shield sends me pretty much the same people every time. The tech does what he's supposed to do and fixes the problem. I was okay with the repair but I had to pay for the other toilet out of pocket. Other than that, the home warranty covered everything else.

From start to finish, it took half an hour. He left a little bit of a mess he made and cleaned it up on the spot. AHS should provide some information for customers to be careful of scammers out there saying they're from American Home Shield and they're not.

In 2021, they called and said that they were offering a three-year premium plan upfront for $3,000 and it was no service fees. You just call and they'll send a technician out. They kept sending these flyers but it didn't seem right. So, I contacted American Home Shield via phone and I emailed them all the stuff that I received and they said that was a scam, that it’s not from them and they do not offer multi-year plans. They said they appreciated it and they will look into trying to find out who it was. But they would enclose in future disclosure contracts that they offer a 12-month plan only and no extended cash upfront plan.

Our double oven caught fire and I called American Home Shield. It was extremely easy to submit the claim once I was able to understand what the person was saying on the other end. He had a very thick accent and it was hard to understand. Sears A&E, the contractor, called the next day and the repair person was here within just a few days. He was consistent, very polite, pleasant, and diagnosed immediately what the problem was. So, he was very easy to deal with. It was a three-week-long process though. It was no fault of Sears because the person that he spoke with to order the fan and the motor ordered the wrong part numbers and that was from LG. Therefore, we had to wait another whole week.

I'm trying to get my brother on board to get this for his home, so I'm pleased with American Home Shield so far. It’s been a great experience. We've had them for three years now. The plan that I have covers everything that we needed to cover, which includes all the appliances, the heating and cooling systems in the house and the garage door openers which when we bought the house had been broken. And we still need to have someone come out and look at that. I read our contract with American Home Shield and I realized that it covers faucets, ceiling fans and items like that, which I didn't know. So it's a big deal for us.

I was very favorably impressed with the first guy who came out. He did very thorough diagnostics and finally came to a conclusion as to what the problem was and came to a workaround that enabled me to continue living comfortably on the two floors of the house that I mainly use. He found an open duct and after that, he was waiting for parts from American Home Shield. That was in late August and then sometime in October, a different couple of guys finally came out. They were nice and surprisingly knowledgeable, conversationally cooperative, clean, courteous, polite and got the job done in an hour. They did their job and I was fine with that. They took a look at the problem and said they needed to get some parts. They came back with what amounts to duct tape and plastic hangers. So they were done in an hour.

The guys did their job efficiently but my question was why it took two months to get duct tape and vinyl hangers to fix this duct. I thought maybe it was gonna be some kind of special connector that they were waiting on. So if I had to spend a lot of time on the third floor, I would have pursued this much more aggressively and I would have been much more unhappy. I discussed this with Douglas Mechanical and they have agreed to give me a free heating system checkup with an $85 value. That doesn't recover two months of not having the third-floor air conditioner but it's an effort at trying to do the right thing. So I have them tentatively scheduled to come out Monday with another service call for an appliance.

I had American Home Shield many years ago and was unhappy with it. After some of the lawsuits got settled, they got much better and I tried them again. For the most part, it's good. The most recent unhappy experience I had was with a 14-year-old faucet handle fixture and the plastic part had broken. It was obviously wear and tear and apparently, the plumber that came out simply refused to accept wear and tear. So, I had to eat the cost of a new fixture and the installation, which got me upset because that was unjust and the appeal fell on deaf ears. I can always have a second person come out but that's a crapshoot. So I decided it was easier for me to handle it myself.

There was another instance on a rental property where I had a bad main water cut-off in the house. It was inside the wall so it was inside the perimeter of the slab and it was inside the structure. The guy that AHS sent out said it was gonna be $2,700 because it was not covered by AHS. He said they were gonna have to dig a ditch from my water main up to the side of my house and then give us an exterior main water. One of the pluses of this house is it's an interior main water so it won't freeze it rapidly. So they wanted like $2,700 for that and I said no. It doesn't warrant that so I hired my own plumber for 250 bucks and it got done perfectly well.

The first time we used American Home Shield, we needed a plumber to install a hot water dispenser in our kitchen. The guy wrote it up in such a way that changed the whole thing and American Home Shield refused to pay it so we got our own guy to do it. AHS paid $200 of the expense. The second time was for the air conditioning and they sent out a person who was good and did everything he was supposed to do. Our air conditioning has been working fine since then and that’s been at least six months.

I was sitting there one night and I heard this bad noise, like rocks being slammed against something. I went out to the garage and the noise was coming from the hot water heater. I told my husband about it the next day and he heard the same thing. He went to take a shower and we didn’t have hot water. But he turned up the heat on the hot water heater and he was able to get more hot water. By the time the people came out, we didn't have a problem anymore. The guy from Direct Connection Plumbing said he couldn't find anything wrong. It hasn't done what it did when we made the appointment. So, nothing was fixed.

The reps from AHS are always very nice when you talk to them. But I question some of the people they send out because it seems to me, they look for an excuse not to do anything. And they find their excuse. But we have not cancelled AHS yet because every time I get fed up with the whole situation, they send somebody out who does a good job. So, they're still in the running.

I had a leaky faucet I needed to have looked at. I submitted a claim online through the online portal of AHS. It was an easy user experience. Everything was very well organized there. I had no issues or questions as I was doing anything. Within the day, I knew it was going to be F6 Plumbing. I also got a call from the plumbing company. The day of my appointment I was sent, “This is the plumber who's coming out. This is his information and the time he'll be around.” Very professional and good company. It was a good experience. There turned out to be other issues with my water pressure. They had to get me a quote for that. But they said once I fix the high water pressure, that the leak would fix itself. My husband just rigged something and we're good. I would recommend AHS for the peace of mind ‘cause things go wrong being a homeowner.

We had a problem with our heater. It wouldn't click on. We called to have someone come out and look at it. They were very good at giving information about the contractors. They texted, called and emailed. I knew exactly what was going on. The guy that came out was awesome. He had to replace the thermostat. He also had to tighten up some things that there was a leak on. Everything is perfect now. We’re very happy. AHS is easy to contact, set up appointments and get things done that way. But the plan that we bought should have been explained more ‘cause it doesn't cover a lot. Nothing on the pool is covered, but we didn't know that when we signed up. There are also other things that weren't covered as well.

My experience with AHS has been mostly good except for one very bad experience. I had a contractor that they recommended that did not have a valid license in the state to do work and was actively being sued by the state for defrauding customers. When I told them about this, they called the guy who then started blowing up my phone, coming around my house. I finally was able to talk him down and he stopped coming around. But it was a very uncomfortable situation that they put me in. I told them the situation that they put us in, and the lady on the phone didn't either understand or didn't care.

I just wanted him off my property. He did a wiring job that would have killed my family. I had him come out to replace a light in the pool, which required him to run electrical, and he wrapped a wire that would be exposed to salt water, which is what the pool was. He wrapped the wire with electrical tape and that is not the way that it's supposed to be done. If I hadn't seen it, he would have put it back in the hole. His wording to me was, “24 volts won't kill anybody.” And that's completely false. I had to pay out of pocket to fix it. It was 1,600 to this guy and then an additional 1,650 to another company to come out and do it right. And American Home Shield deemed that they were not liable for the first one because they recommended somebody who was in their system, but they didn't verify they had an active license to do work. They were refusing to have any responsibility for it.

Five days after it went into effect, I opened the refrigerator and my meat was spoiled. American Home Shield got somebody out there within two days and got it fixed. It cost me $125. We've been happy with the service. Everything's been timely handled. Best Mechanic came for the recent hot water issue. They were fantastic. I appreciate their customer service, timeliness and alertness on when to be looking out. Our hot water heater would cut off. We had to hit reset repeatedly. The first time a repairman came out, they hit reset, and it seemed like it was good. It didn't trip any breaker. After he left though, it continued to do it, and I started having to reset it every day if I wanted to have hot water.

I usually get a text from American Home Shield giving me the contractor's information. In most cases, when we've had to utilize the service, they reach out to me in advance to confirm the appointment and let me know what my windows are and who to be expecting to come out. I've appreciated all of them that have come out. Two years ago, we had someone come out and fix our lights. But sometimes, I wish I had a little more clarification under some of the subjects of coverage, what specifically that includes. If it says plumbing, what does that include with plumbing.

The request works fine. What happens after the request depends. We get some good contractors and some bad ones. We had a claim for a leaky kitchen faucet. A contractor came out in response to the service request. Most kitchen faucets are cartridges. But this young fellow stripped the threads on a high-end faucet. It took four visits and we had to get our own contractor because everyone they sent was incompetent and couldn't fix it. It was a nightmare getting reimbursed. That was one horrible experience.

We just had a claim for a furnace. AHS is very rigid in their policies. It's black and white. I said, "We're out of heat for two weeks" and they promptly quoted paragraph seven G of the contract that says, "We're not responsible for delays..." You call in their call center, and if you wanna talk to a supervisor, it's not possible. They don't use high-end companies. The companies that are advertised the most in a lot of metropolitan areas as being top-notch plumbing won't use AHS and they won't reimburse you if you use them.

I've had American Home Shield for about over 10 years. But I had to let it go because I wasn't making money. Then I got it back and I've told so many people about it because I love it. The customer service guy was alright. But I hate that everything is overseas. You can't understand what they're saying. They talk so fast. I had to slow him down a couple of times. I was telling him what the problem was and he said, "I don't see that." But he eventually found what he needed to find to help me. He did it right away.

Discount Contractors was fantastic. I had some damage to my house because of my hot water heater. They took out all my cabinets. When the plumber was here explaining, it was easy to understand once he showed me what the problem was. He didn't talk to me like a dummy. He sat there and explained everything. He said, "There's another one that's cracked." I just bought those the day before another contractor put them in. This plumber replaced that on his own.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. We've been a customer of theirs for almost 20 years. They always answer my questions quickly. For my heater that was broken, it was the circuit board that drives the motherboard. The contractor diagnosed it on Friday and repaired it on Monday. My cost if I'd had it done would have been over $1,000. But it only cost me 100 bucks. When I started with them, it was $50 for a service call. Last year, it was $75. This year, it's $100. But if I called the company myself, it would have cost me 129 for one company and 179 for another for them to come out, and there are no parts in that.

They replaced the dishwasher and a washing machine. They've done heater and air conditioner repairs. However, when your heater or refrigerator's down, it may take two days for a technician to get out to you. Often, they have to order parts, so sometimes the repair may take two weeks. Sometimes, it's as long as a week in the summer when the air conditioner goes out. On air conditioners, there is an extra charge if the freon was lost or if it's a certain age of freon. If you have two refrigerators, they only cover one. I had a Bosch dishwasher and if I wanted to replace the Bosch dishwasher, I would have to pay the difference between what they thought it was worth and what it would cost. It had been $1,000 to replace the Bosch dishwasher. They gave me the slightly upgraded one from Whirlpool.

I use American Home Shield periodically for repairs at the house. The contractors are respectful. Most of them have little booties for their shoes. Some have asked me if I wanted them to put on a mask. Recently, we had a leak in a toilet and we couldn't tell if it was broken or if there was a moisture problem at the bathroom below it. A contractor came and inspected the toilet. They didn't have the right parts to finish what they were doing so they came back and fixed the toilet. The secondary issues are not covered, but the main issue was handled. If they weren't able to determine that the toilet was leaking, they would have cut open the sheetrock below it. Now, we still have some moisture damage to the sheetrock below, which was most likely caused by the toilet that they fixed.

Sometimes people are very helpful and thorough, but other times they're going around the question. When it was time for me to renew, I had to go through a lot of different people and escalate because one of the complimentary services wasn't honored. They finally did but it was painful and it looks like some things that were on my initial plan have come off. Also, our service fee went up from $75 to $100. We're able to opt into a different plan, but we lost certain things and wanted to make sure that we still have a certain level of service.

There are some things I wish that were included in the coverage, but the process is straightforward. In some ways, their online portal is very easy because you can just click into the scope of work that you need done. But it is a lot more difficult to figure out what the exclusions are. It should be a little bit easier to figure out for the cost that we're paying. Their website is a little bit disjointed. It doesn't like to work on certain browsers as well. I wish they would revamp it. But overall, American Home Shield has saved us a lot of trouble on things that are minor but could still be costly.

With American Home Shield, I like the fact that I don't have to worry about major outlay of money when something breaks. We just pay every month and know that it's gonna be covered. But I was not as happy with All South, the previous contractor. When Family came in, they found a part that had been taken off the main shut-off switch for the breaker for that particular air conditioning. We've got two units in this house. They said that each air conditioner is supposed to have their own shut-off breaker. That one had been removed and bypassed. American Home Shield said that if we were to ever put the house on the market, we would have to have that part replaced again. That didn't make me happy hearing that.

But throughout the years, it's changed a lot where you can't even talk to anybody in the United States if you need assistance with your claim. You're talking to somebody in another country where there is language barrier. They make it very difficult now. It's garbage. They make every excuse not to pay out on your claim. That has been within the last couple of years. Everybody that they send for repair is not somebody local. They'll show up but won't do the job. They'll say, "We need to put in for approval," then you don't hear from them. If it is approved, then they can't get the parts. They're quick to tell you no without diagnosing the proper work. Sometimes I need more than one option but they make it hard for me to get another contractor to come out and look at the problem for a second opinion. It's been horrible. I'm considering canceling them.

First, the company gave me a later date, then they told me somebody canceled and gave me an earlier date, which was even better. They were in and out and they were good.

When submitting service requests, people have to be very thorough with each item that they're having a problem with, or else the $100 that they pay will only address that one thing they said. If it's a plumbing issue, people should check everything that could possibly have a plumbing issue so they don't have to call back to make another $100 call. I could have said I'm having a plumbing issue with the tub, and so then they wouldn't have addressed my toilets and my sinks. Another thing is, I had to wait almost three months to get my cash refund. When people get in a car accident and total their car, they need another car. American Home Shield (AHS) supplied a contract they were not willing to uphold. Charged me a premium of $35 above regular price with notes attached regarding "customer wants three additional pool equipment warrantied". This was a transfer from their sister company One Guard. Told One Guard would not transfer if my three specific pool pumps were not covered (Pool, cleaning, negative edge) as they were covered with them. They (One Guard) got back with me and stated they would cover with a premium. So for the past six months been paying $128.99 on a contract with intention of those pumps being covered. Tried to file a claim on cleaning pump. AHS stated not covered. 10 hours of phone calls later and various departments they stated that although the notes are there with the contract, those pumps are excluded.

When asked why I would pay a premium for items not covered they stated other things were covered. Which are pool & spa items I do not have. This contract from them should of never been offered if they intended not to cover. I asked for the past money back (premium) they said no. I asked for the contract to be changed to reflect only the one pump that I have that they do cover they said no. So I have been paying additional monies for equipment that would never be covered. This contract was arranged under the pretense of those coverages between the two sister companies. I made it very clear I would not go with AHS if those pumps would not be covered as they were with One Guard.

Went back to One Guard. They stated they were specific with them when they negotiated the exception. AHS refused to understand that it is unethical and wrong to charge a customer a premium for specific items when they had no intention of covering those items. The additional cost over a year for the three additional pumps is over $600. The contract states that additional coverage includes “Pool and Built in Spa Equipment” which is for the three additional pumps I wanted covered. But they are claiming it does not meet the criteria for coverage. The condition of me transferring to their sister company from One Guard to American Home Shield was that my existing covered pool equipment still be covered.

They will not give a refund for monies collected with knowledge they would not cover it. Asked for a full refund of all monies paid since contract was not entered in good faith - denied. Asked for an amended contract going forward - denied. Spoke with over 10 people in for departments and got nowhere. They actually asked me why I pay more for equipment they will not cover.

The biggest experience I have right now is over a water heater issue that I had. It took 18 days to get a new water heater and American Home Shield's first referral is a liar. On October 22, the water heater went out. It was leaking out of the bottom of it onto the floor and I could tell it was broken. I called American Home Shield, and they scheduled a plumber named DKH Plumbing to come. They came and looked at it on October 25th. I got an estimate that they would pay for the disposal of the old water heater, a new water heater, a drip pan, and something else. AHS would reimburse DKH Plumbing for approximately $1,100, and DKH Plumbing was gonna charge me an additional 1,730, which was not covered.

It seemed a lot of money to me, so I called a random local plumber named Gunter Plumbing and had the guy come over. He couldn't do the job 'cause he has no contract with AHS, but he told me that there were two things on the estimate that I didn't need. They cost $345 and $355. So, I drove up to the county's building compliance department and asked to see a plumbing inspector who does plumbing inspections on site. I brought the printed copy from DKH Plumbing, and the building inspector looked at it and said, "You don't need this. You're on a well. They're charging you this expansion pump for $345. That's only necessary when you're on city lines to keep your water from going backflow in. And you don't need this recirculation pump. It just keeps pipes from banging, but we don't require it. If people wanna fix banging pipes, you could put it on or not. It's not code."

I called AHS and they told me, "You can get a second opinion. But if you get a second opinion and it's the same thing, we're gonna charge you a service fee." I got a second opinion from Advanced Plumbing and they did not include the two things that the building inspector told me I didn't need. Advanced Plumbing came out and the new water heater was finally installed yesterday. It was $464 less than what DKH Plumbing's estimate was, but here's the aggravating part. Even though AHS gave me the name of the second plumber for the second opinion, they wouldn't pay them. AHS told me that I refused the first plumber and they kept telling me that on the phone. I said, "Either they're lying to me or they're incompetent, and you mean, I would have to go with them?"

They kept saying, "Yes. But we can cash you out and we'll give you the money and then you can go with whoever you want." That's what I did because I didn't wanna have a liar do my plumbing and be responsible for it. I paid the whole thing and then I get a check in about 10 to 14 days from AHS. That is really talking out of both sides of your mouth and the most horrible service. I'm gonna put reviews on Yelp, Google, Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, and I'm gonna slam AHS and DKH Plumbing.

It works. I was told who the contractor was and the approximate time for the service. A guy from Sears came and he knew what he was talking about and he fixed what needed to be fixed. I had a bad experience with my first refrigerator service. The vendor that American Home Shield sent out was not professional. They were very rude and disrespectful. Then they told me my microwave had some issues with sensors, and so that they were gonna change it. Then I got a call from Home Shield that the microwave would not be repaired because the vendor didn't say the same thing to Home Shield. I told Home Shield that the vendor told me there were three parts of the microwave that were not working.

The Home Shield rep told me, “No, no. We can't do anything. Professional came and said that there is nothing we can fix. And if you want, we have an option, you can pay for a second opinion.” I told them that the microwave is $200 to begin with and I already paid 100 bucks. So I was not paying another 200 bucks for someone to come and look at it. There was a back and forth and I got really upset because the same vendor, which is Astro Appliances, was not transferring the same information to Home Shield.

Home Shield sent a second opinion. The second guy was from Fort Bend Appliances. They were very, very professional, and very nice mannered. They checked it out and said, “Yeah. There's three components wrong with the microwave. And we're gonna try to find it.” They couldn't find it. So they said they have to replace it. I was okay with that and I paid the difference for a microwave. They switched it. I had no problem with the second vendor. I didn't like the first vendor. I didn't want them to come back and fix the refrigerator. But they said since they've done the order and parts, I don't have a choice. I don't like that I have to deal with people who are very rude and irresponsible, and I don't have a choice.

The first vendor came back out to fix the refrigerator. It was the same individual and was still very rude. We asked them to test the parts that he sent. But he said, “I already tested. I don't have to do that.” I'm a business owner and I've never seen anything like that. I asked them, “Is there anything we've done?” He said, “No. This is it. You don't like it? Call them.” So, I don't even wanna deal with the refrigerator. It's okay for now. It's usable. He should not be on Home Shield's vendor list because the way he talks to people is extremely rude. They should screen their vendors.

The tech came and checked the plugs and everything where my TV is plugged in and all the stuff is plugged in. Everything was fine. He checked the breaker, and even gave me a new breaker. He said, even though that breaker tested okay, he put a new breaker in just to be on the safe side, but he could not find the problem. So, he said, “I'm not a TV repairman. I don't know if it's your TV or what. But the electrical part, the plug, and everything else seems to be fine.” I have to have the TV repaired or get a new TV or find out what's going on with the whole system. So the problem is not the electrical.

My garage door wasn't opening, so I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and fix it. I went over what was covered, and they told me that it was a covered service. The contractor didn't have the part that they needed, so they had to come back another day. It took them about 45 minutes to fix it. They were trying to get it on track and have the garage door closed completely. So they had to adjust it once they saw that it was gonna close.

When they left, we thought that the garage door was going all the way down and it did. But after they left, I noticed that there was still a space where it was not closing down. The number that they used when they first called me to set up the appointment was still on my phone. I called the number, and when the answering machine picked up, it just said to leave a message. So I wasn't sure I got the right number because they didn't identify themselves as the business. I just left my name and number, and I did not get a call back for a couple of days, so I called American Home Shield and I told them that I called the contractor and left the number, but I didn't know if I had the right number. American Home Shield apparently reached out to them, and then they called me back and said, “Hey, I heard you left a message with American Home Shield.” I told them why and they set up an appointment to come back out.

I was told that the guy would come back on Monday, which was yesterday. But then he never showed up yesterday, and he didn't call. The guys were nice but they haven't followed through. If you have a business and you're doing business with a nationwide company, you should at least have your number or your name identified on the voice message that you've got.

I had a claim for a leak and the guy that came out did the job. He did a little more than he was supposed to, but the leak was fixed. It turned out the leak was in a toilet, so he rebuilt it, and we've been very happy. There have been no leaks. It was fantastic. When our gas cooktop developed a gas leak, American Home Shield sent out approximately 12 different service guys to look at it. The final one said that there was no way to fix it and it needed to be replaced. The next week, American Home Shield sent three guys out and they replaced the gas cooktop. There was a barrier to the cooktop in the form of a piece of wood, and I am a skilled furniture maker, so I joined their team and I modified the piece of wood so that the new cooktop would fit. That cooktop was worth over $3,000. So we were really pleased that American Home Shield stepped up to the challenge of replacing that cooktop. It's worked fine ever since.

We had another problem with our refrigerator, and we had about six technicians to our house. The final one took the bull by the horn and ordered all new parts for the freezer. He came back and installed them, and it's worked fine ever since. The only thing that people should realize is that American Home Shield doesn't necessarily respond immediately. For the cooktop, it took six weeks. But they were looking at a $3,000 bill for a replacement, so I understand that.

For the refrigerator, the final part probably cost some several hundred, and the technicians who came out early were not qualified to fix the problem. That was not Home Shield’s fault. They were supposedly from the manufacturer. But we got it fixed, and they finally got a guy here who knew exactly what he was doing, ordered the parts, which took two weeks, and came back and fixed it. I've had other problems like a drain backup. The guy was here the next day and fixed it. We had a dishwasher problem and two days later, the tech came out and fixed it. The bottom line is American Home Shield is great, but don't expect them to respond the next day.

There was a button that told me to click for a claim. They were exactly the nature and type of the repair. There was a good option that I could pick.

The contractor was good. I was hoping that they would replace the faulty thing on their first visit. But I understand their policies and it is not easy to go and just spend money out of their pocket if they're not completely sure. Being frugal is part of the company's standard procedures. It took two iterations for them to fix the problem. That aside, they were friendly.

A company came out to repair our refrigerator and they're coming back out tomorrow. This is the third time they've been out with the same complaint. So we're not real happy right this minute with American Home Shield. The freezer part of the refrigerator was not freezing well, and it wasn't making ice well. When you get your ice out of the door, there’s a little flap that opens and closes, and it was stuck open. So we have a threefold problem going on. They fixed the flap, and then they had to come back out and fix the thing to keep the refrigerator cooler, but now it's not making any ice at all.

When the garbage disposal in the sink wouldn't work properly, we had a contractor come out and they said there was nothing wrong with it. But we told them to get somebody else back here. They told me that it was just old. Then they came back out and replaced it, but they had to come out two or three times to fix a problem. It's not helpful. Then they wanna charge you a deductible every time. But I told them that I was not paying another deductible. Also, it seems like a pretty high deductible to me. Overall, American Home Shield is very nice and they have good customer service. They are responsive and always send somebody out. But they just want to fix a piece of the problem and do the least amount possible. That's the way of the world, but it's frustrating as a consumer.

American Home Shield does stuff that upsets me sometimes and they get corrected later on. I told them many times the way they deal with me is not to a lot of customers because I'm not stupid. When some obstacles happen and I find difficulty in communication to find a manager, I have a problem. Also, they increased my deductible per visit and I wasn't aware about it. I said, “I need to talk to a manager or a supervisor.” “We cannot do that.” I would have to make a big fuss, do my research to get the numbers and emails to find these people. I am very loyal to AHS. And they're supposed to be very loyal to me because they have a lot of competitors that I can go to. I already got quotes from other companies like First American Home, which is significantly cheaper for the same coverage.

The recent issue was a leaking toilet. The contractor was not able to fix it at the first attempt. Within 24 hours, the same problem occurred again. And it was a recall. So, I called AHS. I told them I would not pay again. They said no. They just sent the contractor back. So, the next day, they came back and fixed the problem. And everything looks good now.

The technician that came the first time was different from the one who came the second time. The first one tried to put the blame on the failure to a different issue. He said, “Things are very old. Maybe this or that, that's what's causing. Maybe you have to replace the whole thing.” I said, “No. It has nothing to do with these. Toilets are old, that means it's cracked or something. But this has something to do with the piping. It has nothing to do with the toilet itself. I don't need to change the whole thing. The house is not old.” I have family members that have a 30-year older house than mine. So, it was irrelevant. I had better experience the second time. The second technician came and did not say anything. He figured out exactly what the problem was and fixed it. It was a complete success.

Around the last week in July, my air condition central air broke down. I was without the use of air in my house from July 26th until mid September, all summer in Florida. My house is almost 2,500 square feet. I ended up spending money for three air conditioners and six fans. My electric bill went up. American Home Shield kept lying to me, telling me that the part was shipped but it never was. First, they ordered the incorrect part. They lied and said it was shipped when the person was supposed to do the fixing, he made several trips from Ocala, Florida at the time to pick up a part that wasn't there. So, it was a back and forth thing for all those months, until finally got the part and it was fixed.

AHS never offered me a credit for anything. And they kept on taking their monthly premium as if nothing happened, and I would not get the service I'm paying for. When it was fixed, in less than two weeks, it broke again. I had to call and still had to pay that $100 before they sent out the job to whoever would fix it. I'm very disappointed. And I have to make arrangements with my electric company to pay off the bills for using all those ACs and fans to at least live in the house. I wouldn't recommend AHS to anyone.

The air condition stopped running and it turned out to be the fuse. If AHS takes my money every month on a certain time, I expect something to get fixed right away. I shouldn't have to wait a day or two for somebody to come out to look at it and another day or two to get it fixed, when there are local techs here in town, when AHS could contract with them and get them out there. Instead of saying just A-US is their only one and they get special rates, reach out to somebody local that can come out the same day and get us some air going.

The contractor just came out and looked. The tech said he would come back. He came back with a screwdriver, changed the fuse, and went inside. The ac ran for a while and it lasted eight days, and it did it again. So, I called A-US and they told me I had to call American Home Shield. I did and while on the phone, I got a message from A-US that they would come back out. So, I called that technician that was there eight days before and said, "It's doing the same thing." He came out, instead of getting out with the meter and checking what was possible to blow the fuse, he changed the capacitor. So, here it did it again. Under the 30-day warranty, I called A-US and they said, "You have to call American Home Shield." So, I did that.

AHS sent another guy from San Antonio. He got out with his meter and gauges for the Freon in a little bag. I was, "Now, that's a technician right there." He was ready. I told him what was going on. So, we went and I told him all the electricity was off for safety reasons. I put all that back on, went out there and he changed the fuse. We went outside and he looked, took his meter and put it on the wire. And I said, "I've been doing a lot of Google. It can't be just the capacitor all the time putting high voltage over to the low side and blowing a fuse. It's gotta be something out here. This stuff ain't that complicated." So, I said, "What about the meg? That's something with the windings of the compressor." And he said, "Right here, it said it's five point something. It's good. If it was 15, the compressor would be bad." I said, "Okay."

I said, "Let me tell you about that fan." I was out there picking up the sticker burrs and I heard the compressor kick in, and when I looked, I told him the fan would go side to side like Chubby Checker. It would go to the left, swing back to the right and it would work. He said, "That's not right." I said, "I'm thinking that ain't right." But the first guy said, "That's normal 'cause it's double something it was."

So, he checked it out and tried to push the capacitor in and the fan wouldn't even kick on. He said, "Yes, it's that fan." I said, "Well, that was my thinking." He pulled the disconnect out and checked something, put it back in, saw the fan do that little side dance again, and he said, "You need a new fan motor, a capacitor and a board." I checked with him today because we're gonna get rain tomorrow and he said, "They have the board in stock." That was all he said. "But I'm not able to get it today." So, I've had a good experience with the second one. We talked about if I needed another air conditioning, they finance new ones. I said, "I'm hoping it'll last until the house is paid for in four years, then I can upgrade."

I wanted to upgrade my current plan at the time within the 90-day window and the representative that I was speaking with processed it for the following year. My upgraded coverage doesn't actually start until next year. When I tried to get it corrected this year, they said that because it was past the 90-day window, they were not gonna be able to do that and there was nothing that they could do. It was a little bit of red tape.

A's Appliance needed to repair a microwave that burnt out and a stove that wasn't lighting right. And the oven's digital display wasn't working. The tech was great. He was a nice guy, very respectful and got everything done. He told me everything that went on. Now, the microwave is fine. The stove still doesn't light right but it is better a little bit. But the oven's digital display could not be repaired so you use a timer, or you can't tell how much time is left on there. They could have probably replaced that, but I'm not sure why they couldn't.

I've had to deal with a lot of other issues for other properties. And sometimes, American Home Shield would get it right. Sometimes, it’s just not right and you have to go through some pain to get it fixed up. And there's the cost versus how much you end up paying out of pocket to repair these things, I'm still trying to figure out if it's even worth having AHS. Sometimes things aren't covered or they cost extra, like the Freon in an air conditioner. I was gonna get hit with a bunch of money and it ended up being a part that needed to be replaced. So, I had to get a second opinion. AHS sent the second opinion and the tech was great. He fixed everything on the air conditioner. But I was about to have to pay $1,400 because of everything that was gonna be involved with replacing the air conditioner.

I've had other situations where the property where they were supposed to fix an air conditioner took over a month to get it fixed. And it was in El Paso where it's hot. My tenant was not happy about it and I had to finally get one contractor dismissed. He never showed up. I finally got another one and they went in there and repaired it. But it was a month. I was furious because I paid all the fees and you have this situation where we can't get the capacitor changed out on an air conditioner because the guys just didn't show up. They don't value the work they get from AHS or from the warranty companies because it's busy work for them. So, it was not a good situation, trying to get a refund and something out of it. It's still up in the air about recommending AHS to friends.

At this point, for the water heater, it's about one year's worth of paying AHS and it may or may not have been worth it. I've had it for 16 years and I had another house that I had it on as well that I ended up selling. So, I try to say that this is gonna be worth it because I don't have to pay these large expenses. But the large expense I was gonna have to pay, which was the air conditioner, included a large expense for the Freon and all these other fees they were trying to charge me. It was $1,000. I pay AHS so they can deal with it, not so that I can have an additional huge burden on me, which is why I'm avoiding all this.

When you get a good contractor, it’s wonderful. And when you get a bad one, it's horrible. And the red tape you have to do to get another one. The service itself and coordinating and all the stuff online to get the service order done is super easy and AHS has got that down. But every once in a while, you get that bad contractor. You get the runaround and it’s frustrating. I was calling and I was directing myself to foreign services where they have other people answering phones and I got the runaround.

One time, I went a different route on the numbering, like how you pick what department you're going to. And I got somebody that was not right. But AHS sent out another person and they fixed the air conditioner for that other property within a day or two. And it was a big difference. I could have pushed the right button the first time and got the right department.

My third night in the house I had a leak and the contractor came out. Originally, I made my claim with American Home Shield and it was too far out. I told AHS what happened, they immediately said, "Okay, we'll get somebody out." So, it was very fast. The contractor looked at it and gave me their honest feedback. I declined the repair, not because of them because Jeff was awesome. It was because it was such poor work to begin with that if he fixed it, there would be another issue somewhere else.

I'm upset with American Home Shield because I've been waiting for them to fix my downstairs pack unit since last November when I called. The young man from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas who came out last year told them that they needed to be replaced, not tried to be repaired. He said I was blessed that the thing didn't explode. The flame was burning the outside frame of the air conditioner. We were waiting on parts for a year and we went the whole winter with no heat. I called them every other month and all I could hear from American Home Shield was, “We're waiting on parts.” American Home Shield finally sent the contractor back out.

When they showed up the other day, they took it apart and when they were putting it back with the new part, it wouldn't seal. They put it back together and they said that they would be calling American Home Shield again to tell them to replace this unit. This is the first time I ever had problems with American Home Shield and this is the worst problem. I've called them several times and complained about it and asked them why they don't just replace the unit and I still feel like I'm getting a runaround. Also, I had to pay $550 for the part they put in because American Home Shield told me they didn't cover it. I complained about that because if I waited 12 months, they should absorb all the costs.

Our heater wouldn't turn off. When you push the up button, the thermostat won't go up. We were trying to get the fan to turn off and we must have hit run and left that on. So it kept the fan going. So, there was nothing wrong with the heater itself. It was the thermostat. Pacific Coast Air did a good job. The tech got the new thermostat and put it in. It took him no more than half an hour to do the whole thing.

When the air conditioner stopped working, American Home Shield had to replace it. We live in a townhouse and the air conditioner is out in our carport on the other side of our fence. These places are old and that was probably the original air conditioner that was in here when it was sold 50 years ago. Laws have changed. But it's not fair to make us pay so much for upgrades when there's nothing that we can do about either. If we don't want to pay for the upgrades, then we can't have it fixed and it can't be replaced. We paid over $1,000 in upgrades.

The people that AHS sent out didn't do a nice job either. They had us dig a ditch from our fence all the way to the back of our townhouse wall so they could put the upgrades in. They wanted it a foot across and about a foot and a half deep. And I was probably 72 or 73 then. They wanted us to put out more money to have somebody come in and dig a ditch for them to do what they had to do. We're paying all this money and there's gotta be some way so that we don't have to get hit with these big bills.

The same thing happened when the heater went out less than two months after they put the air conditioner on the heater. The little disks that were in there would not turn off and they could not replace it because it was old and they didn't make them anymore. So they had to do all the upgrades in here. This one was smaller and they had to raise the floor for it and we had to pay for that to be done. AHS needs to reevaluate how they make you pay for upgrades. Even if it was a split, you have to pay 50% for the upgrade. Even that would help older people like us who have kept them for so long.

I like the company that did the heater this time. It was also the same company that came out and put this heater in. They redid some of the work on the air conditioner to make it look neat because it was a mess in there. They fixed that too. They were very good then and they helped us. There were wires all over the place in there after this other company put my air conditioner in and they had taken their time after they put the heater in so all was nice and neat when they left. Most times, I don't have that much trouble with customer service but it has not been perfect every time. We've had our go-around. AHS was very accommodating. I got a brand-new washer and dryer last year. The old one was about 20 years old and we got rid of it. The washer made a noise so I called up the Whirlpool people and even though I was a couple of days past the warranty, they still sent out their person and didn't charge me.

But it was a claim that needed to be sent back up to American Home Shield because it was with the AC. I have a leak in the coil so they have to replace those. They sent it up and I got a text message notification that my claim was being reviewed by American Home Shield. I haven't heard anything from them but the overall experience was great. This would be my first major repair. I had put in a claim for my garbage disposal and the contractor came out and fixed it on the spot.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has been mostly positive. I had one situation where it was a little difficult but it ended up working for me. This past weekend, the gentleman from the plumbing company that AHS uses routed everything out for me and got my sinks unclogged. He did a very detailed job. So, he took two and a half hours. He was perfect. He used bleach and I gave him dishwashing liquid and he got down on his knees and cleaned up everything. I wouldn't even be able to tell he was there.

Every year, American Home Shield’s price goes up, which I don't agree with. I have to look at my bill every renewal period, usually around April. It's about $15 for me, which is a big chunk of change. I wouldn’t mind if they would give something back to their customers. We should be able to get some coupons or some type of discounts or perks, especially being with them for as long as I've been. That's rewarding their customers for their good business for being with them for so long.

American Home Shield doesn't have a problem covering things. If you have to have something replaced, you don’t have the high price of replacing it. It's consistent. But there are extra fees that you have to pay for different things that come along with replacing your appliances. We have to pay for the pan that goes with the AC or water heater. Every once in a while, we'll get a contractor rushing through the job. But overall, the contractors have been good.

But right away, the repair person told me that I was gonna get a new water heater. He told me not to worry about anything and that they were gonna fix everything. He was a nice person and helped us a lot with all the information. AHS can go to my appliances so it's good something can break down and we don't have the money to fix things now with the house payment. Everything was good with the contractors. My toilet was making a loud screeching noise and McCarty Management First Call Plumbing & Electric was fabulous. The tech was very informative and he explained exactly what was wrong with my toilet and what he did to fix it. He was quick, neat, and very friendly. He asked me if there was anything else that I needed him to do while he was there or if I have any other questions. That means a lot. I've already given out AHS's information to several people that I work with who are ladies who don't have a husband or are not married or live out in the country, saying, "You need to purchase a service." AHS is easy to deal with and it's been a very positive experience.

I paid around $550 altogether, including $100 to AHS. It took me around two months. I was pissed off. But everything is working okay now. American Home Shield is very professional.

My heater was old and apparently, it had gone bad over time. So, it wasn't working. I went online and put in the claim and as soon as I input the information, it came back with a company. There have been times when it comes up with a company that I do not want at my house in particular. So, if that happens, I make a phone call and I ask for another service provider. But Service 1 Heating has been out to my house before to look at my heating and air conditioning, so I had no issue with them.

American Home Shield also sends me a text message letting me know that it's been sent out and I should be receiving a call from the company. Usually, the company that we get assigned usually contacts us within 24 hours to schedule an appointment to come out. The contractor was very communicative. They texted on a regular basis to let me know where they were and if they were gonna make it within their scheduled time frame. They were great and easy to talk to, and a very reputable company.

We had to replace our air conditioning unit two years ago and we didn't have to come out of pocket for anything. American Home Shield has been good and I’d recommend it. A couple of things have been replaced. We've had to have an electrician come out because we had a wiring issue in the bathroom. Our GFCI kept tripping in our spare bathroom and it was also tripping our master bathroom. So, I wasn't able to use my blow dryer half the time unless I went into the bathroom, reset it, and then blow-dried my hair. So, it was a simple fix, but it was just something that I was not capable of fixing myself. We also had our water heater replaced and AHS has done work on our dryer. It’s been a very worthwhile endeavor to have the service.

Usually, I would call American Home Shield if I had an issue with a contractor and complain to them. And if there was anything else such as damage done to my property, I would contact the company. And if they didn't rectify the situation, I would go to probably the Better Business Bureau or ConsumerAffairs or something like that and report them. You have to protect your stuff. Your home is a very expensive investment and luckily, we're in a good position on our tiny home.
