Recently, I did a claim for a plumbing issue. My toilet was running and the plumber fixed it. He was nice. He has been to my house in the past. With American Home Shield, I like the fact that whenever there's something wrong, I can go online and put a service request in. I don't like my $100 service fee, but other than that, it's fine. I told my friends about it, if they have it in their area.

My hot water heater started leaking. I called a plumber and they told me that I needed to call an electrician to do something before they could do anything. I did that. Then they ordered the water heater and came and put it in. If I had questions, they explained to me what they were doing. They were very quick and efficient.

In the beginning they were responsive: The Bait. After progressively increasing the premium and charging premiums for few years without much service needed, they stopped responding to request of services: The switch. Had to call plumbers from other companies and pay out of pocket. It's a scheme. Stay away!

I would recommend American Home Shield even though they're not using the best contractors to come out. They have to come back two or three times, no matter what. My hot water pipes were leaking and the water was going into the house. The repair man didn't fix it correctly the first time, and he had to come back and redo it. Even now, the hot water pressure is very low after he fixed it. The water is not running under the house anymore though.

I had a water heater leak in the basement of my home, and that repair took longer than it should have, given the nature of the potential damage of water going out on the entire floor of my basement. For some reason, American Home Shield couldn't get someone out to help, come in and rectify the situation, so I was constantly having to put drop buckets. Ultimately, I had to get my own contractor, and that person had to send in some information to say that they were authorized and certified to do the work and then get reimbursed partially for the repair job. That issue was very concerning because there was a lot of potential damage, and it could have been the one that I was able to avoid. Other than that, I would still recommend American Home Shield. I’ve only encountered two issues over eight years, and that's not a bad outcome. The last visit was for an icemaker, and the tech was able to repair it.

American Home Shield offers a wide variety of services and provides vendors to help me out with repairs in our home. I just pay the service charge for repairing some things. There have been a number of times that something replaced was for a significant cost but I only paid the service call for the technician. The only thing is there have been a few claims with a couple of vendors who didn't quite do the proper inspection. But recently, a tech came and replaced a wall socket. He was very knowledgeable and professional.

The service is really good. The only thing I don't like is whenever I talk to somebody, they're very hard to understand with their language. I had to ask them to slow down and to repeat it several times. But they've been really good with my claims. When I had a leak in the garage, the first people that American Home Shield sent me was Sears. Sears told me to be there all day from 9:00 to 5:00, so I was. I called around noon and I was eighth on the line. They said that they would be here between 4:00 and 5:00. I called again later and they would be here between 5:00 and 6:00. I called again and they said I was next in line. When I called one more time, they changed my appointment to the 24th, which that was the 16th that I had my appointment. They didn't call to tell me that. You cannot talk to those people.
I was ready to give up on American Home Shield and stop the service and go with someone else because of the experience with Sears. I've heard that complaint about Sears all the time and why American Home Shield continues to dispatch them out, I have no idea. But the last people that came were really nice and they fixed it fine. Overall, I'm pretty content with American Home Shield.

My clothes dryer was making a scraping sound. AHS got a hold of a local vendor and they made an appointment with me. The tech was extremely professional and friendly. He had a great sense of humor. He diagnosed the problem to be the slides which is what the barrel rides on so it stays smooth and doesn't wobble back and forth. The slides had worn out and he replaced them. He put everything back together and cleaned up the external portions of the unit.
Every time I have dealt with American Home Shield, it's the same type of situation. The vendors they contract with have always been professional and top-notch. I have never had any complaint or need for a vendor to revisit.

I had an electrical problem. AHS sent a tech out to fix it. There was a problem and one entire room didn't have electricity. He didn't check one other outlet. But AHS sent him back out and got that fixed. AHS has been pretty good. One of their providers didn't respond at all but they refunded the $75 deductible. It was okay but I was a little bummed.
I'm a single mom and it's a lot more cost-effective for me to pay the $75 fee than it is to find a plumber I know nothing about. I feel more comfortable that AHS contracts with the tech and that they have the best interest in making sure that things get done correctly in a timely manner.

The techs worked on our dryer. They came out twice and the fuse was still broken. So, we called the third time The problem was I did not understand the process. So, when I called AHS and they said the claim had to go through the authorization department, I was like, "Okay, what are they authorizing?" The rep said, "Their diagnosis." I asked what the tech's diagnosis was and she said it didn't have any.
What was funny is that the appliance people were here with my boyfriend and they said our dryer has plenty of airflow and there's no way it's clogged. It doesn't need to be cleaned but then the techs came up with it needing to be cleaned. We ended up spending the money and the guy who came to clean it said there was no lint at all. That was $104 that we didn't really need to spend. The appliance people came back yesterday and they replaced the fuse. So far, the dryer seems to be working.

They've been able to get in contact with somebody who was able to get here sooner than later to get the work done. Also, we pay 50 bucks a month and it covers everything. The only thing is if something goes out again after 90 days, I have to pay another $100. But it is what it is.

The best thing about having AHS is we don't have to go find somebody to do the work. Plus, almost everything that we've had them come out, if not everything, has been covered under the warranty. We've had great success with it. Most recently, the pool heater wasn't working anymore. Expert Pools came out and they replaced one of the control boards. The tech was great and I find Expert Pools really good. I'm always happy when they're the ones that are coming out for the pool stuff.

Enrolling with AHS was easy and the process of picking out a plan was straightforward. But when I called them to request for a service, their automated attendant misinterpreted what she heard. And they sent the plumber out when it was a job for an electrician. Then, it turned out that the problem was caused by nature and animals, so it wasn't covered. But they didn't charge me, so overall, we’re happy campers. Also, the guy who came out to do the work that he couldn't do is helping us to locate another heater at AHS’ request. So, we're still working with them. It’s just that AHS is not gonna be involved. So far, we've used the warranty five times and AHS has been prompt. They took care of our claims right away and kept me informed. They handled a couple of repairs and this is the first one that they wouldn't because it's considered an act of God. I still have an ongoing situation with my dishwasher and garbage disposal. A month back, my dishwasher was flooding and a tech looked at it and sent the report. AHS refused to replace it. So, I haven't had a dishwasher since before Christmas. The techs figured that the issue had something to do with some kind of pump. After going through many different companies, I finally got somebody to fix it. But I'm still gonna have to replace my own dishwasher.
The techs said that this was because I didn't properly take care of the dishwasher. He found some chicken bones there. I explained to them that I'm older and I can't get down on the floor. That's really my only dissatisfaction with AHS. They refuse to replace my appliance. But any other time if there's a leak or something breaks down, they are expedient about taking care of it.

We had the issue with plumbing on our condo and AHS recommended one plumber but we never heard from that contractor. So, I called and complained. I told them not to bother with that plumber and they recommended somebody else. That person showed up very quickly and took care of the problem real quick too. We've had other uses with AHS and things have worked out pretty well. But oddly enough, on another repair, we also had an issue with the plumber in question on our last claim. And the same plumber came to the rescue the second time. AHS should stop using that one plumbing service.

AHS helps us out. This last one there was a bit of difficulty. Recently, my bathroom and half my kitchen were out of power. AHS called an electrician that didn't service my area. But I didn't find that out until 2 o'clock in the afternoon after calling at 9 o'clock in the morning. But if I had to pay outright to get that technician out there, I had to spend a small fortune. They charge $100, and they cover everything else because of the insurance. And the tech did great. We're in great shape.

American Home Shield's claim process worked very nicely. I had ice in the bottom of my freezer and I couldn't figure it out. A tech came and he was very nice. It turns out there's a drain in there that got clogged up. As the refrigerator defrosted, it's supposed to drain out to a pan on the floor. The guy came along and put a vacuum on the drain thing and sucked all the things that was blocking the drain pipe out, and it took him about five minutes. Everything working perfectly now.
I did have another claim experience with American Home Shield and this was for my bathroom sink. One of those one-handle things stopped shutting the water off. I tried and couldn't get it to shut off. I called American Home Shield but before the guy got here, I figured out how to put a screwdriver in the right place and fixed it myself. I hurriedly called back and said I didn't need the guy after all and asked for them to refund my 100 bucks. They said yes, which was great.

The heater wasn't working and AHS got somebody out here pretty quick. The tech seemed professional. He had a work van and he was nice. Usually, the tech looks like he's driving his own car and dressed casual. But this time, he looked like he was like a professional guy and he had a uniform on. He went to the garage and said he would clean the thermocouple up and put a new module on it. He had the parts in his truck and he corrected the issue. This is the first time a claim was pretty good, the other times were not really okay. It is convenient to just call AHS and they find somebody, though. You just keep your fingers crossed that they'll come out in a timely manner and know what they're doing.

The contractor, Appliance Doctor, sent a report to American Home Shield to have my dishwasher replaced. American Home Shield replaced it with a substandard one, which was wrong. I need a replacement dishwasher that's equal to what I had. Aside from that, I was in another room when the techs installed the new dishwasher and when I came back out, it didn't work.
I spoke to American Home Shield three times so far this week. Last time was yesterday and it was a supervisor. He said that GE would be calling me but nobody has called me. I hope they do it. Otherwise, I'm gonna file a lawsuit. Up until this time, I've been fairly happy with American Home Shield. But my experience so far this year has been terrible. The cost is relative to the service. And so far, I'm not getting any service. On top of it, American Home Shield's service is terrible in terms of the service calls being out in India and you can't understand the people.

Complete frauds. I had a technician come out and look at my oven. He spends maybe 45 seconds looking at oven and leaves. 3 hours later I get notification that my claim was denied and is not covered due to "not normal wear and tear". How is this even possible? I end up calling both the technician and AHS well over 10 times combined to try and understand how they came to this conclusion. I was hung up on, I tried numerous times to speak with a manager but was never able to. All I got was inconsistent responses from different reps, lies and scripted responses that my claim would not be covered. They said the determination is made by their "authorization" department, but of course you can't speak with them.
They said the service tech and authorization department speak and then AHS makes the ultimate decision. It's clear that AHS does whatever they want and denies claims for no good reason. They I even tried reading the contract back to the service rep at AHS to explain that my malfunction should be covered due to the contract language but they would not offer any help or logical explanation. This is a breach of contract. Every encounter throughout this whole process makes it seem like this is a fraudulent operation they're running. I want my money back or claim covered as outlined in the contract.

I had a claim for the sink in the bathroom, and it was repaired within a week. We had water leak and damage in our cabinets with the new repair that they installed. So, the person who installed it came back out. We're done. We found out that we had a defective faucet. It’s on the line. So, it was draining down something totally different than down the water lines where it should have been. If anything would drain, it would drain there. I haven't heard anything back since. When I first submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I was complaining that it was leaking and getting roached out at the bottom. It's been leaking, and they came and they determined it was gonna be replaced.
As far as the tech, he was very professional. He did more than just that sink because there might have been a problem with high pressure in the house because multiple things were leaking. He went through and did a really great job. Along with him checking out his work, I checked out his work afterwards. He is very professional but I just haven't heard back. I've been waiting for about five weeks now. He said he was trying to contact the actual Delta faucets and work that through the warranty of having a faulty faucet, so I still have the faucet here still installed, but those lines turned off.

I don't have to worry about looking in the yellow pages or the internet to try to find someone to come out and do my repairs. I've got that one-stop shop right there with American Home Shield. It's easy to use. We have several things up on the plumbing that you can go on the website and you can do. Instead of calling and waiting until somebody picks up and transfers, I use the online. They send me a text to let me know who the contractor is, what time they're coming, and I have a phone number to call them back if I have any issues with the time, and the contractor calls and lets me know they are 10 minutes away.
In the past, I had some problems. But this time, this plumbing guy that came out was awesome. I had a drip in my master bathroom vanity washbowl basin. The company that came out did an excellent job. The plumber was professional. He explained everything that he did, things that I could do in the future. Excellent customer service skills. When I have plumbing issues from now on, I want that same company to come out.
He used a Moen product and he had it on his truck. All he had to do was screw my old thing off and screw another one on and it worked perfectly. He did more than that, but it didn't take that long for him to get that done. The previous one that came out that I had to do from the same work, it had to be ordered. I had to order it through them and it had to come through the mail, and I had to call the contractor back and let the tech know that it was here. He already had it on the truck which made it spectacular. They did everything.

Our downstairs bathroom kept clogging up, and this happened the week before Thanksgiving. When a guy came out, there were no issues. After they would leave, the same thing would happen again, which cost us to have him come back out again. On this round, he ended up replacing the toilet. Once he did that, we ended up having another issue with the same toilet with it. At this point, I asked for a supervisor to come out and see if they can fix the issue but again, once they got out there, there were no issues.
I did my claim to American Home Shield online. It was easy to navigate but it was kinda hard for me to find what the issue was with my toilet. As far as the tech, the interaction was good but then when he had come back out a second time, the guy got an attitude with my husband. My toilet wouldn't fill up anymore. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and getting through to somebody wasn't too hard. The reps were helpful. I just don't think the job was worth the $100. The tech just replaced the part to make the water come back in there, which was something I could have done myself. It would cost me about 15 bucks. The technician did what he had to do, but I think AHS overcharged no matter what the job is. I'm already paying a monthly fee and then I had to turn around and pay $100. AHS should wait until after the job is done to see if it's still $100 or more type of job. The tech was great. He gave us some pointers on how the water system works and he was very thorough and detailed with his job. He gave me helpful hints. I was very satisfied with what he came out and did, but I'm not satisfied with the way AHS handled the claim. I'm kinda iffy about them.
I also had a refrigerator go out and they went through the whole process to determine what the problem was. It was an old refrigerator. The technician that came out said, "Yeah, they'll probably just pay you out for the refrigerator." Now, AHS chose to fix the refrigerator. He said the part is worth more than the refrigerator. So, they came out and fixed it. It started back working. Something else went out in it. AHS charges you the $100 right away, and the part that went out was a little old fan. So, had they replaced the refrigerator or bought me out in the first place, they wouldn't have had to come out twice. I wouldn't have had to come up with $200. So, the next time it goes out, I'm just gonna replace the refrigerator. I'm not even gonna deal with AHS. I'm in the process of shopping around for another home warranty place now

The last claim I had with American Home Shield was about my refrigerator. The first contractor, Sears, never showed up. It took them almost two months to finally come, but they didn't do anything. It took them so long to show up that I had to go with another one. For the second one, it was okay. They diagnosed it properly, but the tech couldn't fix it either. We ended up going with Sears again, but they also said they could not fix it. So, they wound up replacing it. It was already six months by then. The only thing that saved the situation was AHS replaced the fridge because had they not, it would have been horrible. Maybe a lawsuit. Because I don't know why I pay for something that they never do. The quality is good in general. They do what they can. But the overall model of how they work is broken because they rely on local vendors. If they are bad, it doesn't work. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep having the service because of the model.

We used American Home Shield to get a washer fixed. Allied Appliance thought it worked but it didn't so we went back and forth. They finally got it to work. They didn't have a part, so we had to wait for the part. Then they came out and fixed it. But we could only do small loads. We couldn't do anything bigger. They came out again and fixed it. However Allied Appliance said they weren't required to take the drum. They are going to take care of it, even though they should. You fix something, you take the old thing, we'll pay you extra, but you don't just say, "We're not required to take it" then just leave. I told American Home Shield about it, and they said they were going to take care of it. But it's still sitting in our garage. I'm not too happy about it. I'm glad I didn't have to buy a new washer but I'm upset that we still have a washer drum sitting in our garage. It's big.

I'm not that pleased sometimes with the way AHS handles things. It's like we have to pay a lot and they bring these people that want to upgrade everything and charge you a whole arm and leg. Also, with some contractors, our experience is bad. A tech came out for the water heater and his customer service approach was not good and very abrupt. He didn't do a proper diagnosis. He wanted to change out the water tech but nothing was wrong with the heater, it was just the starter that another guy fixed. The last tech we had had come to us before. He has integrity and we requested that he came back.

The first time that I needed American Home Shield, they responded with an electrician who was very professional and knowledgeable. I have referred several people to them. I was very pleased with them. But I am very disappointed the last time that I had problems with my dryer. We thought the dryer went out, but it was the cable. The first time the appliance man came, he didn't notice that. He said it was the plug to the wall. We had to call the electrician. That was another $100 to American Home Shield. The electrician came and fixed it up, and we were pleased.
They gave me two months that I'm not gonna pay my premium because they didn't resolve the problem. They put me through a lot of hardship. They charged me but didn't resolve the problem. The company that they sent wanted to charge us $385 to put a new cable on the dryer. They told me that the electrician had to do it, but the electrician said the dryer man had to do it. They were throwing the hot potato to each other. All this lasted 2.5 months. I called and I was gonna cancel it. They reimbursed me $100 for the appliance man. They told me that I didn't have to pay my premium with them for two months.
As soon as the two months are done, I'm calling and I'm going to cancel because I'm very unhappy. I've been paying my $100 a month for a long time to American Home Shield. In the whole time that I've been having them, we've used them three times the most. When the appliance company came, they didn't even respond to what I was expecting the service that I've been paying for so long would be. It was not helpful at all to have American Home Shield.

I filed a claim for a leak by the fireplace. American Home Shield sent me the contractor's number and told me to contact them directly. I didn't know if they were going to contact the contractor for me. A repairman came right over to check out the area. He put a drone up on the roof. After that, it was a slow process of them getting there to fix that leak. I kept calling them back saying, "Can somebody at least come and put a tarp on the roof?" They called me back and said, "We don't understand. What kind of tarp are you talking about?" Then they said, "We'll have somebody come up Saturday," but nobody showed up that day. The problem I had was the contractor was so far away. They were way down in New Charlotte that was why it took them so long to get with me about issues.
But they were good. I've had issues with that roof before, and I could not believe they were finally the ones to solve the problem. They ripped everything out. They replaced some of the plywood and shingles and put down new flashing. That was not what anybody else did. Everybody else just put flashing around it and some caulking, and that was it. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. I like the coverage. Some of our appliances are old, and I like the fact that they would try to fix or replace old items also. It's been an excellent service. I have told several friends and coworkers about them.

We’ve had AHS warranty coverage on our home for nearly 2yrs and have had AHS cover our previous home for years. We put in a claim to address a major concern with our heating system that went out right before Christmas 2022. In the 5 weeks we’ve been dealing with this issue we’ve had 4 technicians out to look at our heating system. All of them agreeing that the main unit needs to be replaced. AHS has been very slow to address this repair/replacement, taking over a month. Meanwhile my family, including our small children, are experiencing temperatures as low as the high 40’s inside our home. Calling AHS hasn’t expedited anything for me and no one that I speak with can seem to help us.
Finally today I’m told that they’ve authorized repairs, but they won’t explain what is being repaired, only that my out-of-pocket is thousands of dollars. No one will tell me what specifically is being repaired or replaced and how much AHS is contributing. No invoice has been sent. I can’t get a supervisor or manager to reach out to me and address my concerns despite multiple calls every other day. It’s already frustrating to deal with home repairs and this experience has only added unnecessary stress to the whole circumstance. It doesn’t feel like AHS stands behind its claim to help me feel “confident and in control”.

It is a benefit having it because when major appliances go out that are covered, it's better to pay the $75 fee and get someone out there that's qualified to do the work and to get it done right and not have to come out of your pocket with thousands of dollars.

We pay the $100 deductible but AHS never sends anybody to come fix our problem. It's because there are no contractors around here that work with them and the ones who don't work with them, American Home Shield won't take. The biggest problem with us is that we have a very old house that has a boiler system and we've been working on it for a couple of years now, trying to get it figured out. And we sort of have, but we did it ourselves. AHS doesn't have enough contractors in our area to service that and the issue went on for months and months. But they finally got somebody to come out here that knew what they were talking about. We got a plumber who helped my husband, but my husband did most of the work.

Mr. Appliance of Cleveland came out recently for the refrigerator. They did a great job. The guy was very polite. He was timely. He showed what to do if it gives another problem, where to look and what are the symptoms I would see in the future, which is excellent. That's the kind of service he provides. However, usually, I have to repeat myself multiple times. You give American Home Shield all this information. The contractor calls you and have to ask the same question, so you have to give it a second time. Then they come and do an assessment. I had to give video. I had to offer a couple of pictures to American Home Shield so they could properly diagnose. Then the experts had to diagnose it again. They wanna make sure they got the right stuff.
They show up and have to order a part they don't have. It comes to our house within a week. There's no instruction that I am supposed to call somebody telling the part arrived. Somewhere out about a month later, the service provider calls and says, "We're cancelling this appointment that was on our schedule because we have not received confirmation that the part has been in." But we've had the part in our house for three weeks. American Home Shield calls me the day after they cancelled that sales call and says, "We'd like to reschedule your sales call since your part hasn't arrived." I tell them, "The part's been here. Don't you track the parts? You guys ordered them."
I had another contractor come for another air conditioner. American Home Shield charged me the money for the contractor to come. A guy came and said they couldn't fix it. When American Home Shield called, I explained what it was. I said it's a small air conditioner for a single room in order to keep the temperature controlled. They did not say it wasn't covered. The contractor left saying it wasn't covered. It happened again. I had a small refrigerator. I had to take pictures of it and send it to American Home Shield. They said they'd send somebody out. When they came, the guy started working on it. They couldn't figure out how to fix it and tried to get the parts. When he called American Home Shield to get paid, American Home Shield said, "We don't cover beer fridges." I've been satisfied with all the providers but simple communication between us and American Home Shield could have made those experiences better.

A switch from another company was placed wrong. So, I had to call another company out. When I called American Home Shield back to let them know that something still wasn't working, I had to open up another work order because that particular company would not come back out to fix the issue that they did something wrong with. So, I ended up paying two separate fees for the same incident.
I have a unit that takes the Freon and there's no way of holding that. But if the AC needs service, all of that Freon just goes away. I have to pay for that Freon to come back in, which is $100 a pound. That's a crazy number. That is not covered. So, I'm going to look into something else here in the near future to see if I can either update the policy to where that's taken care of, or if it's not taken care of through AHS, I have to find someone else to do that.

They said that my water pressure was too high and they couldn't do anything about it. I just called another company to come and help me out with it. I've heard a lot of negative things about AHS not covering a lot of items except the AC units and water heaters. But plumbing issues, they hardly ever cover anything. A contractor with American Home Shield just did our washer. I like that they were fast and efficient. But for the dishwasher, not so much. We got the runaround. I had to explain to them we were using the KitchenAid warranty and they came out three times and kept changing out the same part. The gentleman just went ahead and had them cash us out so we could get a new dishwasher.
I also used American Home Shield for our HVAC. We had one company come out, but they were shady. I called American Home Shield back and asked if we could get the same company we had out the year prior that had already worked on it. They explained to me we could have the same person come out. I contacted them and they contacted American Home Shield. They fixed the problem. They didn't like the fact that the other company was trying to fix something that would cost more.
I like the guys from the HVAC company that's been out. With the washer, I always assumed that we were gonna get the same technician because they've already been here and they know what's wrong. We got somebody out. There was a part missing. He said, “If the part’s not here, I'm not gonna touch it. I'm just gonna have them replace the whole unit because that part is gonna take another three weeks.” I felt like he didn't wanna do the work. The companies that American Home Shield has come out to do the service calls need to be better. They should be legit companies and not fly-by-night companies that are open one day then closed the next.
When Sears came out to fix the dishwasher, the guy asked, “When they came out, did they do any electrical on the dishwasher?” I said no. He said, "There are a lot of wires that have been redone." I told him they never touched any of that. The dishwasher leaked for a few months due to that. It ruined our flooring. But overall, everyone's been great. Our daughter bought a home, and I recommended American Home Shield to her and she got them. It's the same case with my brother. He bought a house and got American Home Shield.

American Home Shield does a good job when I call them. Contractors have been here. I'm pleased with them. They're clean, did a good job, let me know what's going on and what they've done. They're personal. I have a jacuzzi bathtub. It's Octagon and I had been bathing in it. I looked down right under the stopper and I could see the bottom of the ground. I don't know if it had frozen. The water was in it at one time. And I never realized it. So, I've been letting that water go out under the house. You unplug it and you walk off, you draw. But they fixed it.
It took them longer because it was cold weather. But they called and said they were headed this way. I thought I had to wait. Because I opened up places so it would be dry under there. I tried to help them out. I was pleased when they got here. It didn't take them 20 minutes to go under there and fix it. That top had fallen down and they had to glue it. The tech even checked my other bathroom. I had a little leak, he caulked it and tightened it up, and said, "Everything is taken care of." I felt like I was blessed. I've told everybody about it.
The dryer was the same deal. All of a sudden, it quit heating. I thought, "It's probably just a heating element." I try to fix everything if I can. But I looked at it. That guy came in, was excellent. I had no idea what a heating element looked like. I pictured hunting a tiny something that you unplug and have to buy a new one. I asked him if I could vacuum inside the dryer before, and he said, "Yes, ma'am." They're great, polite, did a good job, didn't leave a mess. I wouldn't call anybody else but them.

I like the versatility and easiness of American Home Shield. Recently, our thermostat quit working. There is one number to call for a majority of things that can go wrong. They can get in touch with the proper people to get my issue handled. Getting through to a representative was very easy. I spoke to a rep twice and each time, my wait was less than five minutes. They were nice and helpful. Everything went as smoothly as it could have gone.
Initially, American Home Shield had a company called Myers out. Their technician couldn't do anything with the thermostat because it wasn't getting power. So, they had AHS get an electrician out. They diagnosed the issue and a contractor called Trinity came that same day and installed a new part. That part fried out within a couple of hours of putting the heat back on. Trinity came a few days later and resolved that. There were some wiring issues outside the house.
AHS is as easy as advertised and as effective as you'd hope it would be.

We were without heat in the first floor of our home in January for 12 days due to an HVAC repair approved by American Home Shield. While they dispatched a contractor to diagnose the problem in 48 hours, this contractor(ATR, Richmond Va) had not ordered the part required after 6 days, and had no idea when they would get it; they said they were limited to certain places to buy it, and would not agree to call me with any status updates. The online dashboard from AHS read "service completed" while all this was going on, and there was no online option to report a problem.
Reaching either company by phone took ridiculous amounts of time, and when I did reach one they advised me to talk to the other for an update. When I reached a live customer service person at AHS, they would not expedite for quicker resolution - they said they'd give the contractor another week to "try" to find the part. (I found it by make/model # in 10 minutes on Amazon.)
The customer service person at AHS actually told me they wouldn't count weekend days in the time I was waiting for heat, because the contractor could only search for the part on business days. I asked to speak to a supervisor; she had to put in a "ticket" and ask someone to call me back in 24 hours. They did, exactly 24 hours later - with no resolution, a complete repeat of the conversation from the day before. I had to call another contractor on my own who thankfully resolved the problem, start to finish, in 4 days. (They also had to order the part).
When I called to cancel my contract I had to go through 3 people to do it; the "escalated" supervisor I had spoken with a few days prior told me they would pay part of my expense for having to do this on my own, but I learned that was only possible if I agreed to keep my contract. I was an American Home Shield customer for two years without a single claim -this was my first and last experience with them. If negative stars were an option, that would be my review.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

Unless you have the technical knowledge and expertise on how to repair everything in your house, their service is invaluable. You can't put a dollar amount on it. If that issue had happened with my refrigerator a couple of years ago, I would have just thought I needed a new refrigerator instead of paying $100 to have them come fix it. A thermocouple switch in the main heater unit up in the attic fried. They had to special order the part and were able to take care of that. On the hot water heater, it was installed in 1994. The fact that that survived as long as it did was amazing. The contractors were wonderful. I've had other times where I've worked with some contractors that American Home Shield had sent out and we had to tell American Home Shield not to let them back in the property.
We've had to make so many claims in the past. There were some years we were making money on the deal, where we far exceeded what we spent for the monthly fee. This year is gonna be one because we've already had two. On the hot water heater, there's an $800 savings. On the heater itself, that was $400 that they paid. I've also had electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work done. I find that the benefit of not having to pay more than $75 for some of the services pays off. I have recommended American Home Shield to a lot of other people, especially family, and I have some family that just got covered.
The biggest thing I could see American Home Shield having to improve on would be vetting their contractors. Some of their contractors are selling themselves as being very large, but when you have a guy that's coming out to take a look at something, and he shows up in a Ford Pinto and doesn't have anything to do any work when he's supposed to have a ladder and everything else, that's not proper vetting.

We moved to Florida and we don't know anybody. We wanted to have peace of mind if anything goes wrong because we don't know our way around and we made the biggest mistake of our life when we joined Home Shield. Three months after joining, we started having problems with our washer. We called them and I gave them all the information, as much as I knew, but the rep wanted me to take my phone camera next to the washer - show what kind of washer it is and the sticker that says everything on it. I took a picture of that and sent it to him. He said they would send a repair person to come out. That was January 4th. Three days later, we got a call from their contractor and they said they would repair the washer on the 23rd, in other words, 20 days later. We didn't know anything about it and we thought maybe they were busy or that's what their policy is.
The contractor gave us a time frame between 8:00 to 1:00 and somebody showed up here at 8:00 without even calling in advance to let us know that he was coming. Also, he had no tools. He looked at the washer and said it needs a part. He said he's gonna order it and that it takes about 10 days or more to get it. Then he'd call me and let me know when he would be coming to fix it. What kind of service is that? We had to wait so long for them to come out and this guy who walked in here, I was concerned that he wasn't ready to fix anything.
This was my very first experience with Home Shield. I've called them and their representatives were not helpful by any means. None of them even offered to call the contractor and see what was going on or apologize for it. Also, when I talked to a supervisor, I asked if this was their normal policy and he said their policy is that when I ask for the service, the repair organization should call in 48 hours, which did not happen. He said after they call, they should not give me anything more than five working days for an appointment, but we got the appointment for 20 days. He said they already called the contractor. I asked how about if I don't want to deal with these people and he said they cannot change it. I have to wait until the tech gets a part and comes. The claim submission process is thorough and reliable. Even though the people don't call right away, AHS would give me the number to call. Also, AHS is reputable. The contractors have LLCs, they got the equipment, and they know what they're doing. I only had one issue when I opted for a replacement for the cooktop. I bought the replacement and they gave me 800 but the replacement was 12 something out of my pocket. Then, when I called them to ask them if they could have someone hook it up, they said since I opted for the replacement, I was responsible for getting the unit installed. Other than that, for the most part, they’re good folks.

AHS is quicker than most and they are more thorough than most. I like the claim submission process but I don't like the fact that it's a recording. It tells me who's going to do what and it gives me a phone number instead of somebody calling me. One time, I waited three or four days and nobody called so I called them. I had a claim when my daughter opened the door to the microwave and there was a loud pop. We called AHS to have somebody come out for electrical and the tech said it was not an electrical issue but an appliance issue.
Ryan then came out and he was very good and knowledgeable. He changed a fuse on the microwave, but the door was not on correctly so when we open it too many times, it blows the fuse again. He said he was going to get a couple of parts and that he'll be back. In their advertisement, it's a 24 to 48-hour turnaround but Ryan said he's the only one covering Tallahassee in appliances. He is too good to be doing what he's doing.

When I had a claim for the refrigerator, I had a little trouble in the beginning with quality of service and they had to get a different contractor. Kings Repair out of Little Rock came and the tech did really good and he fixed it. When my washer went out, the tech from Mid Arc Appliances & Repair dropped the part off at the house because it was raining that day. He said he was going to come back over and take care of it here. So I'm waiting on him to get over here to get that fixed.

We had a problem with our microwave and American Home Shield sent one person out. He wrote a review saying that the microwave had a pre-existing condition. At first, American Home Shield didn't want to do anything with the microwave because they said, “Well, your review said it has a pre-existing condition.” I told them that the microwave was put in in 2010 so if there was something wrong with it, it probably has a pre-existing condition. So they didn't want to do anything. I had them escalate me to talk to someone else, and they transferred me to a department and I told them what was going on. They said, “Well, we're going to send a different technician out here.”
About a week later, the other technician came out and looked at the microwave and he said it was not fixable. He said, “I'm gonna send it over to the home warranty, and they'll get back in contact with you.” Which they did. They gave us 585 to get the microwave replaced. So we went to Lowe's and bought a new microwave, but we had to get a trim check to go with it so it would fit in the spot above the stove where the microwave is going to go. So the first part of it was bad, but the second part of it was fantastic because they got us taken care of.

The technician was nice. But American Home Shield didn't cover anything. I had to end up paying $1,700 out of my pocket to have the pipe blown out. Plus I had to pay $350 to the technician to have them put a camera down there to see where the blockage was because they couldn't do it with a snake. I'm about ready to just drop AHS and say, “Forget it.” I'll just pay everything out of my pocket. I paid out of my pocket anyway. If they're going to be offer services to fix things in your home, at least cover the **. They leave anything that normally happens out. It’s too close to the sidewalk or it's outside of the house or it's not in the house. Their verbiage changes everything. I don't need them.

I'd been with American Home Shield a long time and I had nothing but great service. But I don't think that it’s something I should continue to keep paying for at this time since there is no need. All the appliances are new. They could break down but the money that I'm saving by not paying so much a month for the service and also for service calls, I could afford to go and pay for anyway. But I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody. I've told my friends about them. Some of them have gotten American Home Shield since I told them that they should get it for major issues. I pay almost $100 a month for a service that is mediocre at best. The first time I had an issue, I put in a claim for my furnace. American Home Shield told me that I would have to wait until the next day because they couldn't find anybody to come out to my home. It was negative degrees outside, and my home was down to 57 degrees with an elderly mother living there. I had a repair company come out and pay out of my pocket. On the other hand, the second time I put in a claim, I didn't have any problems. The repair people came out the same day, resolved the problem, and the unit has been in fine working order since.

I asked American Home Shield a lot of questions and they danced around them. I confirmed to them if we use one of their contractors to fix something, that contractor will then know what is okay under American Home Shield umbrella and they will only do that stuff without contacting me. They said, "Oh, yes, yes, yes." But that was not the case.
We submitted a claim when there was water coming up through the drain hole in the basement of our rental house. The contractor said that he couldn't see what the problem was and then he said to my daughter, who has no authority to make any decisions, "I think I'm going to use this little camera and see if there's any tree roots."
The contractor did what they said and then American Home Shield contacted me and said, "Okay, we've sent your claim for review. This is what we do with every claim. Now, that will decide whether we're going to pay it or not." I said, "Excuse me? I paid my $100 deductible, you sent one of your contractors out. They didn't clear anything with me. So, I assumed it was okayed. And now, you're telling me you're not going to pay it?" But the rep kept saying, "I don't know what to tell you, ma'am. This is our policy." I said, "How can you do the work, and then decide if you're going to pay it? How could you have somebody come out and do the work, and then decide if you're gonna pay it or not? What a racket you have. Why would you ever pay anything if you're doing it that way?" So we've been very unhappy with American Home Shield.

The air conditioner would not cool my upstairs unit. I went online to submit a claim to Home Shield and the system wouldn’t let me submit it. Normally, just submitting a claim is easier. The site is set up so that if you get a new unit, it doesn't get serviced. We have two AC units in our house. We got a new one through Home Shield about three months ago and it was the downstairs unit. When I went to submit a ticket, the system assumed I have a new unit so I shouldn't need service. It makes you call Home Shield. When I called, they asked if I have two units and if the claim was for the other unit. From there, they submitted the ticket for me.
I was informed who was assigned to the ticket and the contact information for the contractor. The contractor called me and scheduled an appointment. They showed up and I had an extremely good experience. We've had four different AC companies come out here. They are by far the best. They explained things really well and they told me what was wrong. They told me how they were going to fix the unit. They told me what they were going to tell the people and what to expect next in terms of feedback.
Everything works great now. Once the contractor came out, Home Shield worked very quickly to get me the estimates on what was covered and what was not covered. They ordered the parts quickly and they came in a timely manner. It took a week or so. The installation happened as soon as the parts came in and it was within reason. This experience was great. But my last experience was horrible. The contractor stopped returning phone calls and it took us months to get our air conditioner fixed.
We bought a home that's 15 years old. It's not a really old home but it's where things start to break. We figured that it would be good to have a Home Shield plan to help us when things start to break which might be high costs. From an economical perspective, our overall experience with Home Shield has been good. We have saved money in terms of the cost of repairs. But when they choose your contractor, you should really look them up and figure out who they are. You have the option to ask for somebody else.

On January 5th, we discovered a gas leak in our home. The gas company promptly shut off all gas to our location as a matter of safety and we submitted a service request to AHS. While on the line, we informed the agent of a broken bathtub drain we also had, and he said that both the tub drain and gas plumbing leak issues were considered under the general plumbing umbrella, so we listed both issues in the service request. We were assigned a contractor on the 5th. We called the contractor immediately as we were without heat to our home, and they informed us that they didn't handle gas plumbing/leaks. We then contacted AHS on the 6th, and discovered that the agent who initiated our claim only listed a water/plumbing issue and not the primary gas issue.
The agent on the phone called the contractor to confirm that they handled both gas and water plumbing issues to be sure we were matched with the correct contractor for the service we needed. They confirmed that they did service both. Their first available appointment was Monday the 9th, so we waited. On the 9th, the contractor sent two men to do the diagnostic. They looked at both issues, and said that they could easily fix both, and would send the information back to AHS that day, and we would await approval. One week later (on the 16th), after hearing nothing, I called AHS again to let them know that this was an urgent issue as we had no heat to our home and temperatures were in the 20s at night. The woman said she would send the issue to the escalation department and I should hear back within 24-48 hours.
On the 19th I called back and spoke with another woman to tell her I had heard nothing, and that we were still without heat in winter. She said she would stay on top of this issue and send it again to escalation, and that I should hear back within 24 hours. On the 23rd, I called again and requested to speak to the escalation department. The agent did not transfer me there, but put me on hold (I'm assuming to contact that department for me), and then returned to say that she needed to contact the contractor. I told her the contractor had already submitted the work to be done, and it was awaiting approval. She said that she knew that, but needed to call them anyway. I held. She came back and told me to wait another 24-48 hours for information.
At 4:20pm on the 23rd, I received an email assigning a new contractor to our service request. I called again, spoke to someone in customer service to explain why I needed to speak with escalation. I was transferred to Nathan in the escalation department. I informed him of the situation and how unacceptable this situation is for us. I asked why the work order was transferred to another contractor, and he informed me that the initial contractor - which confirmed to AHS prior to diagnostic visit and to ourselves at said visit - does not handle the gas repair we need. I asked if we could take care of this simple issue ourselves and submit to AHS for reimbursement. I was told that we weren't allowed to do that yet, not until this new contractor came out and AHS confirmed that no one in our area could do the work.
I asked if AHS was going to compensate us for the extra money we've spent using space heaters, turning on our oven and its burners, running hot water baths in the bathroom so the steam could provide some small amount of heat, running the dryer just to warm up the laundry room, buying an extra heating unit and extra fuel - all things we've had to do because AHS dropped the ball on our service request. He informed me there would be no compensation for that either. I asked if AHS would refund the bare minimum expense of our monthly payment to the company for their "service" (which has not been fulfilled) to assist with any of these expenses, and was informed that they would not. So here we are, 18 days with no heat in January, awaiting a new contractor to get an initial appointment. This is absolutely horrible service.

A few claims had no problem with. However, past 2 were just plain awful and enough for me to change companies. 1st claim. Labor Day Weekend. Central Valley 115 degrees. A/C goes out. Repair takes 1.5 months to complete. Getting parts was the problem...so they say. Also cost $800 out of pocket. Ok, whatever, I get it. But waiting 1.5 months is ridiculous. 2nd claim. Nov. 30. Washer broke down. The used LA Appliances even though it is based in a separate city 50-100 miles away. LA Appliance had to video conference 1st to look at appliance. That took a week. Then they had to schedule a in person visit, another week. Repair tech said needs new parts. Took 3 days before we got an update. American Home Shield had to approve the parts. That took a week. Parts came in 12/23. Called and set appointment 1/11. We are now at 6 weeks with no washer. Repair tech comes out with new parts. States parts are wrong parts or not enough of the parts. Say they will call back with update.
I had enough call American Home Shield. Asked to speak to a supervisor...none available, but call back next day with an answer. Did not call back next day. Waited a week. No call back. Called AHS. Asked for update and they were unaware of situation and contacted LA Appliance. They left a message and would call me back next day. They did not call me back next day. Got a message from LA Appliance and states that parts are ordered. However, I will check when appointment if not this week, will ask for cash out and buy new. Regardless, I am leaving his company. Worse part....told them this and they don't even care. "I am sorry you are feeling that way sir, but there is nothing more we can do." Cookie cutter response and no care of customer value. When I had a local HVAC person come out for their normal service on the furnace, he told me that their burners were kind of deteriorating. When it came on, there was a big burst of flames, and I probably oughta be looking at replacing that unit. It has asbestos in it, and not really something we can repair without disturbing all that, and it would really need to be replaced. So I called American Home Shield because there's $2,500 towards the replacement. They sent somebody out, and they said, "Yeah, it's old and that's a problem, but it's still functional, and so we can't cover replacement." So I'm having it replaced on my own.
I've had the contractor that they sent out before, and they've always been really good. They said, "We just return the gas down." So that doesn't flame out anymore when the furnace comes on. They didn't say the burners needed to be replaced, they just said, "We'll fix that problem." They fixed it by reducing the amount of gas that goes to the furnace. It's all fine now.

If you are shopping for a home warranty policy or contract, DO NOT CHOOSE American Home Shield!! I have been fighting with them for the last year over the replacement of our refrigerator. Our contract stipulates that if a covered appliance cannot be repaired after 3 attempts, it will be replaced. Our refrigerator broke down 3 times and they sent a repair technician 3 times. Mind you, we pay a $75 deductible for each call that is paid automatically via a debit card or EFT. Each time, it was repaired (or shall I say, "patched up"; and, each time the repair would fail and there would be a new problem.
On the 4th call, the technician advised me that the fridge could not be repaired because the motherboard had failed and due to COVID-related shortages and out-dated hardware, it couldn't be fixed. So, he told be that he would submit the report to AHS so a claim could be initiated. I gave it 2 weeks (since I never heard back from AHS or received a followup call). I reached out to AHS for the status. Was told that they had not received the report from the technician. This "excuse" went on for about 6 months. When I threatened to sue them, they miraculously came up with a specialized repair technician from Sears. I agreed to have Sears repair it. Made an appointment, and they shipped all kinds of parts, in boxes to my home, came out, and made the repair in mid-October.
Two days before Thanksgiving, the fridge had failed again; and, once again, we lost all of the food in that fridge and the refrigerator (including the turkey). Called AHS again, angry as I don't know what (rightfully, so) and the CSR argued with me and stated that there was a "process to follow" and that they would happily send Sears out again. I had already followed their process!! How long were we to go round and round with this refrigerator before they would honor the contract? Oh, did I fail to mention that two years previously, they stiffed us on replacing our dishwasher that had leaked and caused over $25,000 in damage to our home? WARNING!! Do not do business with AHS. They will not honor their contract, will give you the run-around, and throw you to the wolves = rude and condescending CSRs. We have been with them for 5 years. The worst decision we have ever made, but I am about to remedy that.

The sewer backed up and my garbage disposal went out. The issue happened on December 23rd. The contractor couldn't get anybody out until the 3rd of January. It kind of worked out that they couldn't get to my residence until the 3rd because I didn't return until the 2nd. But they did good. They were very friendly. They were in and out and fixed the garbage disposal. By the time I got back home, the sewer issue had resolved itself.
The ceiling leak happened two days after. So I called Colorado First and left a voice message. I just needed to pick their brain. I wasn't gonna play the blame game, but I was trying to figure out the cause of the leak. Because the only thing that they did was they ran the water downstairs to make sure the plumbing was cool, and then they did the garbage disposal upstairs in the kitchen. The leak happened in the basement, which is beneath the kitchen. But I was trying to see if there was a correlation to the removal of the garbage disposal and installation. I never received a callback. But nonetheless, I had to contact American Home Shield again to have somebody come out to repair the leak.
It seems that for paying the $40 a month for the service, there's never a sense of urgency. Recently, it took American Home Shield a week to dispatch somebody when I had a leak in the ceiling, which caused extensive damage. So now, it's in the hands of the insurance. But I kept sending them videos and photos showing them that it's not a little weak, this is something that is more urgent, but they refused to dispatch anybody for immediate help. So I'm not too pleased with American Home Shield.

My cooktop had a problem. The burners were not working properly. So when I would turn it on on high heat, it would shut off. On low heat, it would turn high. This was very random, so sometimes it worked on low as low and on high as high. But then randomly, in the middle of cooking, by itself, it would just either shut off completely or go on low or go on high, even when I have it set on low. We would end up burning the food. It would take hours for it to cook because you're thinking that you have it on and it's not even on.
I called American Home Shield in June for a service request. They sent in a company, and the company came and looked at it. They said, “We need to order some parts. And when the parts arrive, we'll come and replace them.” I called back three months later because we hadn't heard anything back yet. They said, “Oh, because there's a delay in the parts order.” China was closed. This was over the summer. They said, “So it's taking some time. Your parts will arrived by September and then we'll have somebody come to replace them.”
Finally, it was October and I still haven't heard back from anyone. They told me, “Okay. Your parts have finally arrived and we'll have somebody come in.” So this company called VIP came. They replaced the parts for the cooktop and then left. About a month later, it continued having the same issue. So it took us a while to figure it out. That month was very busy for us. We weren't home a lot. We had a lot of travel at that time. So we didn't do much cooking and then by the time we got back home and were trying to cook again, the issue was still the same.
Even though the tech came out and changed the parts and some switches that he thought were an issue, the problem persisted. So I put in a service request with American Home Shield. By that point, I had an issue with the washer also. A part inside the washer door broke so I also put in a service request for that. I paid another service fee. Then another company came out. The guy looked at the cooktop and the washer. He opened the cupboards underneath, and looked at it from the bottom and the top. He didn't unscrew anything. He didn’t open anything. Then he said, “You need new switches.” I said, “No. The previous guy, just a month ago, replaced the switches and it didn't fix the problem.” He said, “No, no, no. It could be that those switches were bad. It needs new switches. I'm going to order parts for you.”
When he looked at the washer, he said, “Well, this is a simple problem. It just needs a new part. It just broke. And we'll just replace this part for you and it'll be fine.” He said he was going to order the parts, and once the parts arrived, he would come back and replace them. So he left and then I didn't hear anything back. He came back after a little while and said, ‘Okay. Your switches have arrived and I'm gonna come and replace them now.” In between, another company came in, and they said, “We want to double check this because this thing is having an issue and stuff.” This guy came in, opened the cooktop, and said, “Okay. We're gonna replace the switches.” They brought in the switches and replaced them again. I told them that these switches were brand new and they just got replaced, but they insisted that the new switches might be bad also, so they replaced the switches again. But the cooktop continued not to work.
I had to call American Home Shield again and said, “Look. I turned on one cooktop and it made sort of like electric noises, like electric current sort of a noise, and it made some flashes, so I quickly turned it off, because I didn't want it to explode or anything.” They sent out another company. This guy came, looked at it, and said, “Looks like you need a new cooktop. I'm gonna go tell them.” American Home Shield called us and said, “We're gonna get a second opinion. We’re gonna call somebody else.” So they called another company. The guy came in, looked at it and took a few pictures. Then he said, “Yeah. I think you guys need a new cooktop.” I told him everything about how they replaced the switches and he said, “The problem is not the switches. The problem is with the cooktop itself or the burners or something else, because it's just not working even with the switches.” He let American Home Shield know and then I get a message email from American Home Shield that they were sending another company. So I called in frustration and said, “You guys keep saying we need a second opinion. Another company, another company. So why are you sending another company now?” They said, “Well, we just want to make sure. This company is now certified with KitchenAid, because it's a KitchenAid cooktop and we want to just make sure that if it's a part, it'll be their original parts and they can fix it.”
All these calls have taken me an hour and that was so much time to explain to them. So they sent out this certified company and the guy opened up the whole thing, looked at it for half an hour, checked every single part, and said that, “If you replace all the parts, it's gonna be too costly. It does need a lot of parts replacements. You're better off just getting a new cooktop instead of replacing old parts in this. And I will go and I will let them know.”
Finally, American Home Shield came back to us and said that we need a new cooktop. But this whole process has taken nearly eight months and multiple calls back and forth. There was so much frustration. Also, I told American Home Shield that nobody followed up for the washer. We never heard anything back. They said, “Oh, we sent you an email in December, saying that we don't cover the washer problem, because the guy who came in and looked at it told us that it's a part replacement.” The guy told American Home Shield that we broke it with force. But I told them, “That's not possible. Because the way the washer broke, it's not possible for us to break it with force like that. It's something inside that broke. We couldn't have put force on it to break it like that.”
The second thing was that I never got the email. American Home Shield told me, “Well, we sent you an email. You had to reply in seven days.” How can I reply to something I never got? I stayed on the phone with them for one hour. After explaining all of this to the representative, I requested her that I'd like to speak to a manager because I felt that she was not understanding the problem. I told her that I'm requesting that American Home Shield come and look at it again because whoever this company was giving them a false report.
The rep refused to understand anything and to transfer me to a manager. Instead, she said, “Whatever I'm doing for you is the same that a manager would do for you. There's nothing that they can do for you that I can't.” I told her, “It's okay. I understand. But please let me speak to a manager or a supervisor.” I've been on the phone for one hour, and this is what I'm getting from her now. She gave me the hardest time. Finally she said, “Okay, but I'm gonna have to put you on hold first to do some paperwork.” Then she put me on hold for another 10 minutes. Then she said, “Okay. I've done this. Now, I’m gonna have put you on hold some more, and then I can transfer you.” So she did that and finally transferred me. But her manager was really, really rude, and the least bit helpful, and then said, “Oh, well, she already told you this. We can't do anything about it. We sent you an email.”
I told the manager, “Look. I'm trying to explain this to you. Can you hear me out?” So I started speaking, and then I said, “Hello?” But there was no reply back. I kept going, “Hello?” I could tell that she put me on mute, and then she refused to take me off of mute. So I kept saying, “Hello? Hello,” a few times. But nobody spoke until I ended up hanging up. Then I called back and got another representative. I said, “Look. I was speaking to some person, and I think she put me on mute, then she wouldn't take me off. She wasn't replying to me. I had to hang up. And I needed to talk to them about this issue.” She said, “Okay, hold on. Let me look.” Then she read through some notes. She said, “Oh, well, over here it says she already explained this to you and she can't really do anything for you.”
I was really surprised to hear this because I didn't tell her anything. She clearly knows everything that's been going on. But now she wants to go jump right on the bandwagon with them to tell me that there was nothing that they can do because they'd already sent me an email. I was so frustrated at that point. I said, “I've been on the phone for over an hour at this point. I'm gonna complain about you to the American Home Shield headquarters. This is really disrespectful. This is bad customer service. And that's not how you treat your customer. You don't hang up on them. You don't put them on mute and take it as a joke. It's taking away from my time and my things that I need to take care of to speak to you guys. And then this is the kind of treatment that I'm getting.”
I told the rep that I didn't have more time to waste so I would just speak to American Home Shield’s headquarters and I hung up. Then she kept calling me. I didn't answer her call because I was so frustrated that when I was trying to talk to her, she thought it was a joke. They think they can make fun of a customer and make them feel humiliated and frustrated. Then when the customer hangs up in frustration, they want to keep calling them and leaving them messages trying to act like they’re being so helpful. Then I got this email about how I would rate my service. It was really ridiculous that these people sitting out in the Philippines thought that it was funny to waste someone's time. They don't know what's going on in a person’s life. They don't know what they're going through, and how much they have to take away from other things to make these calls. So I gave a poor review.
I had somebody call me that was in the States. Her name was Kimberly. She was very nice and sweet. She said, “I see over here that you actually were not sent any email in December.” I told her, “Thank you. Because I didn't get any email in December.” Then she took care of it. Now she has a company to come out and look at the washer. She said, “We will have a second look at it to see that it's all okay and stuff. And we have that scheduled for tomorrow.” Overall, American Home Shield is helpful to us. They take care of the appliances and whatever issues we do come across, and we have been a customer with them for many years now. Their customer service used to be good. But this time, my experience with customer service was so bad. It was very frustrating.

Once they had our credit card number, they upgraded our policy without our permission, set us up for autorenewal without our permission, set us up for monthly payments instead of annual without our permission, and then proceeded to renew our account even though we had cancelled it months before. Then when we called later to start a new contract and give them a second chance, they backdated our policy to the previously expired contract and proceeded to charge us for a month of coverage that we never had. Then charged a cancellation fee. So for our stupidity in allowing them a second chance, we ended up paying 2 1/2 months worth of coverage for 3 actual weeks of coverage. Shame on us for trusting them.

We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

A plumber recently came out. He identified what was wrong and had to go back and write the report up. I had to get a replacement done. I had called them and asked for the receipt. Then I noticed on the receipt, it had a note on there that they had to come back. I called American Home Shield back and they went ahead and set it up for the plumbing company to come out today and add that last component to it. They had to add another drain ‘cause it wasn’t on hand at the time of the installation. They had to cut some of my sheetrock and put a hole in the wall so they could get back to the waterline better and do what they needed to do. I'm wondering if I need to call American Home Shield for the hole in my wall.

When On Point Contracting came out, I had two items for the issue. First was the kitchen sink, and the other was a leak that was coming from my ceiling. The issue with the sink was it was low pressure. The tech said there were some filters with this kitchen faucet that we have, and one of the filters had gone bad. So he removed it and it was a total of three filters that were on our kitchen sink and advised me to find out the make and model of the kitchen faucet, provide him with the serial number, and then he would come back out to replace them because he didn't have any filters for the kitchen faucet. After that, the pressure was fine.
Then he went upstairs to the shower area, which is right above the area that was there was the leak. He said he didn't see anything wrong with the basin of the shower floor, but what he did notice was that there was a sealant or caulking around the shower. It had some normal wear and tear and stated that I just needed to put some sealant or caulking around the basin area, and that should stop. But he said he didn't have any. I said, "Okay. Fine." But if he had to do further investigation, that will require him to remove the sheetrock and look at the plumbing. They don't replace sheet rock and things of that nature, and I said, "Okay, fine, no problem. I'll just try to figure it out and get some caulking and see if that should stop the issue which you say it would."
I followed his advice and I did that, and I've not had a leak since. Also, before he left, he did test it and he didn't see any leaks at that point in time. Following his advice with the kitchen faucet, I got the make and model, and serial number of the kitchen faucet. Then I contacted my contractor who installed it about a year and a half ago.
When I called On Point, the young lady advised me that they don't replace filters. I told her, "Okay, if you all don't replace filters, why were the filters removed? And why was I told by the technician that he would come back out and replace the filters once he got the information and they could order those filters?" She said that she was not sure why he told me that. Then I requested to speak with a supervisor. She went back to try to speak with the supervisor, but at that particular time, they were unavailable. But since this kitchen sink has been working, I've not attempted to call them back in reference to that.
Overall, the claim process with American Home Shield is fairly simple and easy. They come out, assess the issues, and repair things. I did have a negative experience but that got resolved. It was regarding our dryer. It had a burnt smell. So the technician came out and told me something was going on. Then came back the second time and told me that something else had gone out and they had to order it. But then they told me that they didn't have a part for what he told me on the second visit. I had to call a supervisor from that company to come out and get them to fix it properly. It was really a demand on my time, leaving work to go visit them on four different occasions just for them to get it right.

The toilet was running. Something was broken inside the toilet. I called American Home Shield and waited until somebody answered the phone, and then they took my service requests. They gave me the name of the contractor and their phone number and address. The only problem I had was that nobody called me right away, so I called them instead. When I got them on the phone, they said that they were going to have somebody out at a particular time, and I said, "That wasn't gonna work for me, I need somebody to be here earlier." Then they said. "Not a problem." So that person came out within a couple of hours. He was a perfectly nice gentleman. He came in and did his job. I asked him a couple of questions about what he was doing, since I'm not a plumber, and he answered my questions and completed the job relatively quickly, and solved the problem.
The biggest negative thing about American Home Shield is that the cost keeps going up. The rate that I have to pay for the visit is now at $75. But that's just the cost of doing business, so you kind of budget for that. American Home Shield repaired everything from garbage disposals to plumbing leaks. They also repaired my air conditioner unit and replaced my refrigerator, so pretty much any problems that I've had covered by the warranty the last 20 some odd years. It's always been a pretty positive experience. Except for one time, which had to do with my oven. It was a gas oven and a double oven, which they don't make anymore. It was a perfectly good oven and it worked fine, but the pilot lights for both ovens went out, and the oven was not coming back on. I was not able to light the pilot light. So I contacted Home Shield and they sent somebody out.
The company repaired the lower oven but they couldn't repair the upper oven. They said that they were unable to repair the oven because it was an "antique oven" because it was the original oven and they no longer had the parts. So they were declining to repair the upper oven. So American Home Shield assigned it to somebody else. This was during the pandemic. I allowed them to come in, but only if they wore a mask. One guy argued with me about it and I said, "Well, you're not coming in here if you don't wear a mask." He grumbled about it, but he did put the mask on.
For some reason, American Home Shield reassigned it to the original company which not only couldn't repair it but never returned any calls. Before they ultimately made the decision, I had to reschedule an appointment. I called and called and called and left message after message after message, and they never returned my calls. So I made a complaint. But nobody from American Home Shield ever got back to me. As many times as I contacted them to find out what the problem was and why they reassigned the repair of the upper portion of the oven to the same company that said they couldn't repair it and what was going on, they said they would get back to me but they never got back to me. This went on for more than a year. I was really astonished because when I had a leak upstairs in my bathroom, somebody came out and repaired it immediately. The guys who came out did a fantastic job.
I finally got somebody on the phone for the oven and they assigned somebody who came down and said, "Oh, this is an antique oven, we can't repair it." Then the argument became, "Well, if you can't repair it, then it's your job to replace it. That's the deal." But who has a double gas oven anymore? It wouldn't be a double gas oven, but it would be a lower gas oven with an upper microwave oven. There was a debate about that until finally, they sent one more guy down. When the guy was here, he said, "Oh, I'm gonna have to fix this. I got the part in my car." He walked out to his car, came back into my unit, and repaired the upper oven in five minutes.

We've had several claims with American Home Shield. They're limited on what they will cover, so you have to read the fine print but I have that peace of mind in case something breaks. It gets expensive so quickly when things start breaking down. However, there have been some hiccups with some of the workers and the delivery people. The first group that came out couldn't install the microwave. They told me all this stuff, but it was wrong. They had to leave and had to get another person. He's done most of the work.
Sometimes when you call in, the people are very difficult to understand. They're not in the United States. The language barrier is very frustrating. I have looked to cancel with American Home Shield to go with somebody else. But they do a survey at the end of the call. You can a 1 to 5 about how easy it was to communicate and talk to them. They at least do that so that's good. I'm still happy with American Home Shield ‘cause we've had things replaced and we didn't have to pay the full price. Sometimes, if I call them and I have two issues, they only charge me $125 to come out.

I had an issue with my heating unit so I called it in. Customer service was really good. The guy that came out found it was the thermostat and replaced that. I had another issue with my gas stove as the igniter was not working. I was going to try to repair it myself so I did some research on YouTube and found that it was probably the wiring of the igniter. I ordered the igniter from an aftermarket company, they sent that, and I started to repair the stove. But I found that I couldn't get the top off. I had some other difficulties and I didn't wanna mess it up, so I called the American Home Shield. They sent out a representative and he fixed it really fast. The gentleman who was repairing it said, "You shouldn't have bought this part, because I would have provided it." As a result, I didn't get reimbursed. He used my part instead of me using theirs. I learned from that. On the whole, they did a good job.

I was unfamiliar with heat pumps in general and I didn't know that they will defrost. On a cold day, it looked like it was smoking. I thought it was on fire. I didn't know why it was smoking. I called American Home Shield 'cause I thought I needed it serviced. It was super cold and I thought it was an emergency. They told me they'd call me back. It was not a good process. They were not able to find anybody available for a week. I wanted to choose the company because I've had experience with another company through my mom's heat pump that I did not like. Unfortunately, with American Home Shield, you can't choose your company. The cost of getting the company I wanted was less than what I was gonna have to pay for the service call.
I googled smoke from heat pump and found that this was a very normal process. It was probably going through the defrost cycle and to let it run its course and keep an eye on it. Sure enough, I turned it back on and it was fine. I called a local company. While they weren't going to come out and service it, they could have if I asked them to. They were knowledgeable enough. When I called American Home Shield, there was no knowledge of the system and how it works. I will plan on canceling if I don't need it within the first year.

I don't own this house but I don't feel comfortable calling my landlord every time something breaks. So, I figured I'd just do it by myself. This is a good way of taking the lead and getting it fixed by myself. And the fees aren't bad. It's cool. I did the downstairs toilet and I had to do the upstairs toilet as well as my dryer and probably one other thing. I've had to call about four times. The techs are always nice and respectful. AHS is fast and easy. And instead of me having to call different departments as far as appliances, it's done underneath the same window and then American Home Shield sends their notices out. So, it's super convenient.

I just bought this house and the dishwasher came with it and I've never used it. I just did it old school and washed with hand. But my son had pressed the cleaning button and the dishwasher went. From there on, it started leaking and this horrible smell started coming from it. American Home Shield sent somebody two times. The first time they sent somebody, I didn't like those people that much. They just sent the company that they sent. I had not opened the dishwasher for at least three weeks. So, it was nasty and I understood it. But the contractor just said they couldn’t see and left. They said they would be back and then I didn't see anybody else until the next week.
The guy who came was great and that was good. I love that guy. He told me what it was. Apparently, the dishwasher is connected to the garbage disposal and at this time it is not working also. It is another problem but they said that if I continue to have the problem, it's gonna be the same ticket, which I was fine with. The gentleman was absolutely delightful and very educational. He showed me a lot that I didn't know. He told me that I should contact the plumber for the dishwasher or I should contact American Home Shield again with regards to the garbage disposal.
Submitting the claim was not difficult at all and the AHS rep attended to me right away. So, I wasn't upset with that. A good friend of mine had a good experience with AHS and told me that I should look into them. And I did and they delivered. My mom is gonna look into it and she's excited to go into it. AHS is helpful, especially for people that are just starting and just don't know about home ownership. This has been such an experience for me because anything that could have gone wrong has. The technicians got out the next day after I put in the service request through American Home Shield. They had to replace a part and they said that it was an easy fix. But they had to get an authorization from AHS to do the work and that was where the hang up took place. It took 10 days for AHS to give the authorization and for the techs to come back and do the replacement. There were a couple of times where I called American Air asking about the status and every time I was reaching out, AHS hadn’t authorized it. The great part of having a home warranty policy with American Home Shield is someone comes out and resolves the issue, like with the plumbing. They also keep using the same ones, even though they don't have great service and turnaround time. They just don't care. My heater went out on December 23rd and I still have not had the repair completed. It's the dead of winter, and the president just declared it a state of emergency, and I'm sitting here with no heat. I had American Home Shield before with the last house that I owned, and it was the same way to the point where it was less of a headache for me to pay for stuff out of pocket. We just bought this house, and the purpose of buying the home warranty is to not have to be in this position where I'm paying for stuff out of pocket.

The secretaries call back quickly, which is a good thing, but in general, we find the American Home Shield people do as little as they can and leave as quickly as they can. We had a clogged drain, and when the guy came, he did a very minimal job. All he did was clear the clog. He didn't give us a long-term solution, and that drain keeps getting clogged. Also, if an emergency situation arises, I can reach out to them. Sometimes it's difficult to get technicians in, but recently, they've been able to get technicians in within 24 hours.

American Home Shield is worth having. I'm not paying completely out of pocket. But I have had to pay more than I was expecting because of different loopholes within the contract. One time was when my bathroom leaked into the living room. They needed to open up the wall and refit the parts, which was an additional fee. Also, the tech had to put in some new piping so that would fit the current part and the guys had to close up the hole in the ceiling downstairs where the water had leaked to, which were additional fees as well.
Also, there has been a delay in trying to schedule with their contractors. If I call on a Wednesday, I may not get anyone here until Monday or Tuesday. But the assistants when I call customer service have been helpful in trying to resolve the issue. If I call and I say I haven't gotten a response, they'll call them themselves. Unfortunately, what I've noticed is they're calling the same number I was given, not an internal line, so they don't necessarily have better access to the contractors.

So far, I'm real happy with having the warranty because it has helped cover the issues that I've had. Right off the bat, they've helped out. Most recently, the motor was going out in my heater and it took two weeks for AHS to find a contractor. But the contractor, Urban Mechanical, came out a day after they were contacted by AHS and they were very professional and friendly. They seemed knowledgeable of what they were doing. But they ended up taking two returns. They installed the new part but it was broken and they had to remove the part, order it again, and then come back the next week.

We called on 12/18 for our heater but the tech from Climate Masters who came out never told AHS what was going on, what the problem was, and what he was doing. It was 19 below and we were out of heat for two weeks. We have three children in the house and a dog. AHS told us he had 24 hours, then they gave him 48 hours, and then it turned into a few weeks. I canceled that service. I told AHS I never want that contractor to come back because they didn't do anything. Fick's Mechanical came out and they were the best. Their tech came out and resolved the problem. He had to order a part and came back the next day.
AHS just sent me an invoice telling me that I have to pay another $100. They took the fee out of my account and they were supposed to refund my money from the last person because the first person told me they couldn't refund me because a tech came out. But they never serviced me. Also, everybody I talked to don't speak English. I'm always talking to a foreigner and they are different time frames and they don't know about our weather. They tell me it takes 48 hours for a manager to call me. I do not like this service anymore.

One of the most recent claims I've submitted was for a refrigerator and AHS had sent people twice over the space of a year to repair it. The dishwasher rinse agent dispenser was broken and it didn't have a top to it. The tech replaced the top that was missing and but it wouldn't hold. We had to call him back and he told me to put a new ticket in. He didn't catch that we need a new bottom part. It had to be replaced. I find that is prevalent with a lot of the guys American Home Shield uses. They make you take a picture of the issue but they can't see what the issue is from the picture. The picture doesn't diagnose what's wrong with the dishwasher. There's no sense in doing that. If it's an obvious breakage in something that's visible, then the picture makes some sense.
Also, we had an oven whose fan wouldn't work so the oven wouldn't work. They couldn't replace the part so they replaced the oven but it took about seven visits to get this done. The guy was trying to make a part that would work but they didn't have any parts anymore for this oven. I give him an A for effort but an F for the result.
This is the second time I've had a home that was protected by American Home Shield. The first time was a home where the air conditioning compressor died. It was a two-zone system and one of the zone systems died. I discussed what the remedy should be and the tech offered something and I didn't like it. We negotiated and I finally got him to do what I wanted to do and it was perfect. I never had any problem with the first time around but this time, I'm getting people who don't know the equipment and don't know what to do. American Home Shield is a good plan if they had better people working on it - more astute and more capable.

I had him him come out anyway. AHS canceled the charge against my credit card and the guy checked out the freezer and told me to buy a new one. It'll cost too much to fix this one. The resident at the property calls and tells me what’s wrong and I normally submit the claim on American Home Shield’s website. I like it. It makes it easy to submit claims and to monitor the progress so it is very convenient. In my most recent claim, the contractor needed to replace the faucet and add a pressure-reducing valve. They said that the warranty doesn't cover the repair due to the absence of a pressure-reducing valve so, I was forced to pay everything out of pocket. I didn't realize I wasn't covered and thought this would be a very simple repair. This was a very unexpected expense. For the most part, American Home Shield has been good. There were a few instances where, like this one, there was an unexpected coverage. So, that leaves me feeling a little sour. And in the future, these things can still come up. So, I’m feeling a little vulnerable with the AHS warranty coverage.

The dryer went out. I filed the claim online to American Home Shield and then I called numerous times after that. I got their representative and our interaction was horrible. I couldn't get anything done with it. When I called in the first time, it was to follow up with an appointment. They had not scheduled an appointment yet. So then I called to get the appointment scheduled, and they said that they would call me back with an appointment, and they did. The technician came out and did the diagnosis on the dryer. He told me that he was gonna submit the diagnosis to American Home Shield on the date of service, which was on the 3rd of January. Then on the 3rd of January, that was what he told me.
On the 4th of January, I called in to see if that technician has submitted the request. There was still no submission of that diagnosis to American Home Shield. I called again on the 5th, and there was no submission of the diagnosis to American Home Shield. I called on the 6th, but still, there was no submission from the technician. Saturday and Sunday came by. There was no issue since AHS was closed. Monday came along, and I got a brand new call from the company and they said that they needed to come out again and do another diagnosis.
At that point, I was like, "What's the next available date?" It was the day after. They did the diagnosis on the 10th. They fixed it on the spot on the 10th. Then they closed out the service request. Everything was up to date and fixed, and I had no complaints or issues there. I've had to use American Home Shield about four times so far and in the past, everything has been tip-top and only this one occasion has it been an issue.

The refrigerator was working fine and all of a sudden, it stopped cooling. After that, it was a nightmare. The first contractor came out and the tech was just coming off of six months of training. He wasn't experienced but he was a nice guy, very sociable and professional. The next guy came out and he had the experience and the knowledge but he said he was leaving. He was tired of the hassles and the supervisors ripping on him for not calling people. So, he left and the other guy came back. He tried to do his best but wrong parts kept being sent. The guy had the correct part and he put the compressor in. They ordered a new circuit board for the back of it and put that in and at that point, everything else started to die. Other than the compressor, a lot of the parts that were sent were used or broken or the wrong parts, wherever they ordered them from. They were sending junk parts because one time they sent a part in a box that the box was too small for it.
A & E was the original contractor and the problem started with them. It's usually about a two-week turnaround. So, your refrigerator just barely works and it's terrible. I couldn't put a lot of stuff in there because I didn't know if it's gonna totally ruin everything. After they were done with it, American Home Shield had another contractor come out and look at it. I showed the guy all the stuff that was done to it and he said he would have to order all new stuff again because he didn't know what to do with defective things. A & E actually put a defective ice maker in it. The test button was jammed up in it so you couldn't test to see if it worked.
The other contractor made one trip out and said that he would tell AHS they should replace it because he was gonna have to order another $1,000 worth of stuff. So AHS decided to buy it out, which was okay, but then they deducted what the second contractor charged to come out. I paid the original 175 to cover the service charge but AHS sent another guy out and deducted the amount from what I could receive, which was a rip-off. They kept that saying they gotta cover that cost. The turnaround time with A & E and the inexperienced worker they had was bad. But American Home Shield has nothing to do with any of that other than they hire the contractor to come in and I was satisfied with the experience with AHS.

American Home Shield stepped up and did what I needed them to do. Last week, the original dishwasher that came with the house went out and they completely replaced it. So, I was appreciative of that. I’ve had to use AHS, in six years’ time, maybe about three times. One for my toilet and one other time, I had a valve under the sink that was leaking. The Lindsay Company came out in September and replaced the valve under my sink. They did the install for the garbage disposal as well, which went out. So, the guy came last week and completely put in a new one. So, I was very pleased with that.
Both who came out were very nice guys, professional and quick. They were prompt, knowledgeable and good guys to deal with. The guy who fixed the sink was very knowledgeable and young. Both of them were right on time. I didn't have to wait and they were here when they said they were coming. Those technicians from Lindsay were fantastic. Before then, the person that I called out a few years ago and fixed our toilet, was a private contractor as well. But when I called for the sink, AHS said that his company was no longer in with the home warranty people. So, they sent me these two guys and they were wonderful.

I believe I have had 3 service dispatch to supposedly fix my furnace. It is currently winter time where I am located and the company they send out is the same(XTREME HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING LLC) but they do nothing.
I am fed up with how all companies want is to take as much money as possible. All this time I spent paying my monthly membership makes me believe I should have just canceled the warranty and purchased my furnace out of pocket. And I have currently checked that they have increased my payments from $44.99 to 52.99 which definitely doesn’t make sense if they don’t do anything to solve my problem.

But he took it out. He made sure that I saw what the problem was. And said, “You're in luck. The parts store is 10 minutes from here. I'll be right back.” It was great.
A home warranty is well worth it because from that inspection that you do, you don't know what could come up as being a clunker, something that was broken when you bought it and just didn't know. Or it didn't look like it was broken at the time, and you go to use it and you'd be like, “Holy crap.” American Home Shield steps up in there. I had a problem with my air conditioner and furnace. Even though it took American Home Shield forever to get those done, they got done. So, they do it, but there’s a lot of frustration and inconvenience. Take your chances with AHS. Because if anything major goes wrong, getting to a person or follow-up is not gonna be easy. But it will eventually get done. I tell AHS exactly what I've been experiencing. They would ask questions, and I'd say, like the last guy, “It’s not getting hot. It’s turning, but it's not getting hot.” He came out. He said he replaced the heating. For that day, it was hot. The next day, it was lukewarm.
Before, I could just call, and I could get to a person and he would take care of it. In the last couple of years, it has gotten worse. If I have a claim that wasn't satisfied, AHS takes me around the world. “Press this option.” I can't talk to a person anymore. I have to do everything online. And when I talk to a person, they're in another country and there's a language barrier. It's very frustrating.
They would say, “I will give my supervisor a number, and they'll get back with you.” But that never happens. They would put me on hold and say they would talk to a supervisor. But no matter what I tell them, they repeat their script over and over. It’s where they're not hearing me. And I tell them, “I can't understand you. Can I talk to somebody from America? Can I talk to someone else?” They would repeat the same script over and over again. They refuse to let me talk to a person. I’m 69, hard of hearing.
Some contractors are excellent. Some order parts and they never follow up with their department, so I have to keep calling. The part came in three weeks, and no one came out until almost a month later to repair the dishwasher. When they came in, they put the dishwasher in. The dishwasher worked for a day, went through the cycle. The next day, we tried to use it. It was leaking. The foam was coming out the bottom. I’ve called several times for it. And I'm about to call again. It still doesn't work. But when they're here working, they seem to know what they're doing. They open it up. They run it through the cycle. It works. But it’s not consistently working. The contractor told me I couldn’t talk to them. I have to go back to AHS.

Prior to this recent service request, I wasn't a big fan of customer service. Calling in is a nightmare. I would always call and explain or make sure I submit a service request properly. And there was one service request I had previously where I had a bad experience. American Home Shield had to give me a discount on that one. But this one was different. It was convenient for me to do it through the app. And the company AHS used, and the guy they sent, was very good. The experience was pleasant. However, I am having a hard time trying to convince myself that I'm gonna keep the contract past this year.
I've been with AHS for five years. At this point, it's becoming more of an investment for the company as opposed to a benefit for myself. I get it. It's like an insurance thing. And we pay insurance, but we don't use it until we actually need it. I thought by this time, I'd be able to utilize the benefits of AHS a bit more. But whether it's the stuff is just still kicking or there just hasn't been any significant repairs or something that needs to be replaced where I could utilize it.
I've been giving all this money that the rates of go up every year, but it feels like I'm just donating money to the company. If my rate was still the same or only slightly different from that first year, I will be okay with keeping it. But now that I see what's happening that it's just gonna go up just for the hell of it every year, because it's not like the service is getting better or I'm getting added benefits or features. The price is just going up. And I get inflation, but it's like they're charging just because they can.

American Home Shield's quality of work is much better than another company that I'm using. The only time that I've used them out of the 22 years and had to split the difference was when I had to replace my HVAC system. Everything else had been covered and my expense was $0. American Home Shield is a great company. They send reputable technicians out. They stand behind what they say their contract speaks of. I haven't had any problem with them replacing an item if it cannot be fixed. I wouldn't switch from them. The price is a little bit more expensive, but as far as when I need to use them, I haven't had any problems. I would recommend them. I had a relative that had lost her husband and I told her that American Home Shield would be a great advantage to help her with her repairs. I also had told my daughter about them and there have been others that I have referred to American Home Shield.

The heater had gone out and when the HVAC techs came out, the issue ended up being something electrical, so they couldn't do it. It was a 60-amp breaker box that was bad, so AHS had to send an electrician instead of the HVAC place. At that time, I had a separate claim for one of our plugs in our bedroom that was going bad. So, the same electrician who came out for that claim ended up coming back that same day when they gave him the work order for the HVAC. He was great and everything is all good now. I like that with AHS, I don't have to deal with any of the setting up and coordinating in trying to find someone to service whatever it is I'm looking for.

American Home Shield got better this year. When we call them, they try to take care of us immediately. But I had some problems a couple of years ago and nobody would get back to me as far as the contractor. It has been almost two years when I filed a claim on it. So, I just got the microwave. The contractor came by and installed it a week ago. It's working fine. I've also had some good service with customer service. But I have to be on the phone, and they transfer me. There's usually a long wait. That would need to be improved. There are a few other companies like them out there which I've been getting information on. So, AHS needs to step up their game.

My heater went out and it turned out that my unit needed to be tuned up. The tech had to go into the furnace and there was a part that he had to clean. That was the main reason why my heater wasn't cutting on and once he cleaned that part really good, it's been working like new. Having AHS has been very convenient and they get the job done. Once I make a service request, they send it to the third parties and they reach out right away. The vendors are pretty good, too. There are some who are not as professional as the others, but for the three things that I had going on, out of the three, I had two good contractors. The first one that AHS initially assigned my claim to was so unprofessional. But American Home Shield ended up giving me someone else who got straight to the problem.

I called AHS and they did a chat video to see what was wrong with the dishwasher. The contractor came out to fix it. They evaluated what was going on, and they made the determination that some of the parts that they needed to fix were not available anymore. So, they put the claim in to AHS, who paid me to replace my dishwasher for me. They sent me an email with a different selection with the equivalent in value of dishwasher that I can select from. If I want to upgrade, I was able to upgrade it. AHS is very useful to have. I like the comfort of knowing that my appliance would be covered if something happened.

In the beginning, it was a little difficult submitting a claim with AHS. But right now, it is so easy. Everything is automated. I also don't have to scramble around to look for somebody to do the work that needs to be done. I just put in my request and for the most part, I've had no big issues. The only time it became a little problematic was when my air conditioner went out during a really hot spell. It was the time of the year and they were busy. Other than that, I've been pretty pleased with the service people that have come to do the work here.
Recently, my microwave stopped working all of a sudden. There was a flash, and then it just died. The tech was really a great guy because he came in, he said, "I'm gonna check a couple of things," and he thought he knew what the fix was and he had the parts with him. It was a fuse, and then he replaced a switch panel. All within an hour, we were done. He was prepared. I was very pleased with his service.

For the most part, AHS has been okay. But we had one claim where the guy couldn't fix it and then was going to come back with a different thing, never came back and then told American Home Shield that he had. By the time all of it was figured out, I kept waiting for the guy to call and waiting for the guy to call saying he was coming back. By the time I called American Home Shield, they told me that too much time had gone by 'cause it was 30 days from when he was supposed to be back and I didn't notify them. I had to file a completely new claim and paid the fee all over again. They also paid the guy who said that he'd been there and he'd never shown.
It seems as though the technicians are limited in what they can do. For instance, we've had a dishwasher that needed multiple repairs that we knew from the very beginning what the main cause was. But the main cause was an expensive cost. We had multiple small fixes because they said that it wasn't broken enough to fix the main cause. So that was annoying. But they had somebody right out there and the people were able to fix it.
We've had to make over 10 claims and 7 of those have been good. I like that they've got somebody who responds right away. They've added that we can now request a repair company, which I like because there were certain repair companies that I didn't like. However, their operators need a lot of work on understanding the process. When I'm on with the operators, it's often that I’m put on hold so they can check with someone. But other than that, it's been fine.

Bear Plumbing was okay. But that guy wasn't super friendly. He didn't do a great job. My drains were clogged. He came and unclogged and it was fine. But he gave me a hard time. He was acting like it was the worst thing he's ever seen in his life. They were just clogged. He was mad he had to snake it. He was asking me, “Did you ever have a home inspection?” He was rude.
The other two times that people came out, it was way worse. The guy, with the ventilation problem in my bathroom, told me that there was nothing wrong with the motor. He told me that the motor needed to be replaced. He said that the motor that was there was working but it was 30 years old and that he was gonna tell AHS that it should be replaced because that was not a standard motor for a bathroom. He told me that I needed to get my vents cleaned.
But then AHS called me and told me that he said that I wanted more ventilation, so I was requesting that it be changed, which is not what happened. He told me it needed to be changed ‘cause I wasn't gonna get any ventilation with the current motor ‘cause it was too weak. Then the person called me and they told me it was denied. Then I had someone come and clean the vents. They told me the motor needed to be replaced. It's the same thing, where it should be covered by AHS because it needed to be replaced.
The same thing happened with the refrigerator when the tech came out and looked at the fridge. He told me that there was a problem with the sealant. He said that the water spout behind the fridge was broken and that he was gonna tell AHS that. Then I got a call from AHS. The lady said that he told me that the fridge was out of Freon and it hadn't worked for six months and that he didn't mention anything about the spout. I don't know what's going on. I don't know if AHS is hiring vendors that are just dishonest, or if whoever is calling me is just spinning the reports.

My furnace was coming on for 41 seconds and then turning back off again. When I called AHS, they said that give them what I know about it. Then they would make a diagnostics with that and then get back to me. They said it was under processing, that they would review it and then get back to me. But they took a while to get back to me. The furnace was out for a total of a week on some of the coldest days. Then they finally came back and talked to me. They said, "We diagnosed what it is and it's the heat pump that's out. We will have a person come in and install a new heat pump." I said, "Okay." That was through Mountain Heating and Cooling. They then said Mountain would contact me and tell me when they would be able to come out and do it. Mountain then said that they would not be able to get there for another week. It was almost a month before they came out and fixed it.
When it burns the gas, it leaves a residue there. This residue goes in and blocks off the fan and that's what causes it not to work. All you gotta do is take a little pin and push through that residue, and it's good to go for another six months. The tech said this heater that I have will cause this to happen every six months. I said okay. I said, "How much would it cost me to put a new heater in here?" He said anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000. I'm not gonna put up with this every so often. So I said, okay. I paid $2,800 to have a new heater in.
Two months later, the water heater went out, and that was another $2,800. We had a problem with it again, that it blocked off like this again like the first time. I called the guy and I said, "I'm having problems with it." He said, "You're gonna have to call another company. I can't get to you right now. I'm so booked." Come to find out, he was doing shady and buying the furnaces that were junk furnaces, not very well made and selling them under the letterhead of the company that he worked for. But he was not giving the money back to the company. So consequently, nobody would honor the warranty for the installed furnace because they didn't install it. But AHS covers a lot of different things. So far, it has been excellent. The technicians that I've talked to and come out were excellent. The only bad thing that I saw was that it took a lot of time for them to come out and fix it the last time. But I'm very happy with AHS.

We have been very pleased with AHS. American Home Shield has really been wonderful to work with. Our refrigerator decided to quit working on us and it ended up being a Freon leak. With LG refrigerators, if there's a Freon leak, it's virtually impossible to find out where it's coming from. They suggested it would be replaced and American Home Shield replaced it for us. But we had a little bit of an issue with Lowe's computing this thing, but it was because of some computer glitches on their end. But we finally just got our fridge on Monday.
Getting somebody to come out when there's an issue is extremely easy. Putting in the work request with AHS is like, "We have an issue with our appliance. We'd love to have somebody come." That's very user-friendly online and they are very responsive, at least on American Home Shield's part.
