I've been happy with American Home Shield. I was surprised that it's gone as well because you hear different stories. Some people have good experiences, some not as much. I renewed with them, and I wouldn't have done that if they weren't good. They have been as advertised. I've had to call them a few times on my pool pump. We usually put in a claim online, and quickly, we have a contractor assigned. We get charged 75 bucks when we put in the claim. The contractor gets in touch with us, makes an appointment, and usually gets here within a day or two, depending on how close we are to the weekend, sometimes same day. They've made the repairs and it's been that easy.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

The washing machine wouldn't close properly. We had heard complaints that maybe the drum was not working correctly. But the repairman said that it should be fine, that it was just the lid mechanism which wasn't working. I've been assigned this repairman before. I like him. He's professional and easy to communicate with. He lets me know when he's coming and when he's done. He lets me know what the problem is and offers solutions.

American Home Shield was in this house when I got it. I never looked for anything else because I've always been satisfied. If I have a problem, they solve it. When the heater wasn't working, I called them for their contractor to come in and take care of it. Whenever I have an issue with that type of a problem, I ask for those guys. They are well-trained and very thorough.

The claim on the washing machine was great. The timer was broken. It was not going through each cycle. They had to replace the timer. The contractors are good about getting back to you. They're not top-of-the-line, but they do what they can and services to code. However, American Home Shield has doubled their rates. The monthly rate has gone from $50 a month to almost $100 a month per unit. Also, they tell you that they're gonna replace AC units and hot water heaters. But very rarely will they replace them. They'll come up with a reason why they can't. They will repair it forever, but they will never replace them.

We have gotten a lot of really good service out of American Home Shield. It costs around $600 a year and then it's 75 bucks now per time you have a deal that's covered. They have a list of service companies and if it's an approved thing they're gonna mess with it. Their service is normally really quick. I call them for a claim and instantly, they're gonna get somebody on it. Then they give you a list to choose from, and that's really good. Some of these contractors aren't good. But American Home Shield has always had a couple of them. We found some of these guys are the neatest people and wonderful, customer-oriented little service companies, but some aren't. We'll never want some of them again. But that's not Home Shield's fault.
We had a new water heater that American Home Shield had paid for and it was a big brand name. They got the ball rolling and got the service guys out there to check it out. We finally got a new one and it didn't cost us anything. We got reimbursed for that one. I had a claim for the exhaust fan. I couldn't find the motor on this exhaust fan that was really needed in one of our bathrooms. American Home Shield called the guy out and we paid our 75 bucks. The motor was 300 bucks if I tried to find the motor and put it in myself. But they got it and it's working perfectly.
When we had a claim for the dryer, a local guy came out and he was a neat little guy. He was an independent operator. He called us one time, then came over, and gave us a half hour's notice. He replaced the timer on the dryer and it was good for a few days, and then it started goofing up again. It only turned on and off when you opened the door, and the buzzer wouldn't work. So we called American Home Shield and they sent the guy out again and he replaced the part. But it lasted about a week or two and then it acted up again. When I called American Home Shield for the third time, they said, "All right. We're gonna have him come out and check it, but probably, we're gonna buy a new dryer." They did. So now, we got a whole $800 dryer installed.
Last year, American Home Shield had a really, really good response time, getting the work done and resolving if it didn't quite work out well. They were covering all the things they should have. We have two heating air conditioning units in this house and the small one was a real pain in the **. But American Home Shield did a great job with it. That was several thousand bucks for my 75. But over all these years, we hardly use American Home Shield except just paying them the basic fee. It smooths out so that we're not having to come up with $3,000 things out of pocket all of a sudden. It has really worked that way.
Decades ago, we had a big incident with American Home Shield. But it wasn't their fault as such. It was a really crappy local contractor. I got into a big scrap because they put in a heating and air conditioning unit, which was expensive. It was several thousand bucks, and American Home Shield paid for it, but they made me pay for any upgrades and that's reasonable. But this thing started having trouble with all kinds of shortening out and it was water all around and condensation. It was bad.
American Home Shield kept getting a guy coming out there. So it was not good. They sent two inspector type people over there to check it out. I was really impressed. They said, "We see what the problem is." This was back in the day before cell phones and the guy took actual photographs and had them printed. I thought it was all gonna get processed. But the contractor was a liar. He made up stuff about me and things to cover himself. The headquarters somewhere believed it. I ended up spending 1,800 more dollars out of pocket so I can have heating and air conditioning in the winter. I was really mad then.
I called the group that had a class action lawsuit against American Home Shield, and they sent me a little questionnaire and I filled it all out. I enclosed copies of my photographs of what went on and my whole story. Then I didn't hear anything more about it. But they said they were working on it. About two years later, I got a check for almost the entire amount because American Home Shield did a settlement. We were thinking about going in with another company like American Home Shield, but we didn't, and we stayed with it. But it's been pretty darn good since then. It's been a good year with them.

My kitchen sink was clogged or slow draining. A plumber came out and snaked it. It was a small snake and nothing major. The sink worked for just a week. The plumber recommended a venting solution and said something about my pipe not having one. I went with what he recommended to help the sink flow more and for less stoppage. After he did that, the problem actually got worse than before. I called again. He responded yesterday and he wanted to re-snake and I told him, "It doesn't matter what you do. Can you fix the problem?"
The plumber was a good dude. It was the same problem he came out with the first time. He called Home Shield and Home Shield got on the phone with me. They said that they would have to charge me an extra $200 for re-snaking it. That doesn't make any sense and that was not fair. The problem wasn't really the money, it was because it was not guaranteed. When we did the venting, the company charged me close to $300. I really want somebody else to come out for a second opinion.
Another problem is the people at Home Shield are not really as friendly with the homeowner. I get it. But the technician is also not guaranteeing his work. So who are you gonna trust, the homeowner for 12 years or the technician? It's just a kitchen sink but I wanted to catch the problem early. I still have the problem and I still got charged.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

The heat stopped working and the contractor said the motor went out, and they fixed it right away. American Home Shield's website is kind of confusing in the way they are explaining the stuff because they say that you can do multiple things at one time. But everything is under certain groups in the website, so you can't do everything at one time. You have to make sure it's in the same group. But other than that, it's pretty easy. When you do your claim and they file it, they'll let you know what company is assigned to you, then that company calls you and schedules a time to come out. The contractors have been great. When I did have problems, it was more with American Home Shield and not the companies that come out.
Overall, American Home Shield is a good company. I like that you can do multiple services and they're pretty quick about responding to let me know about the contractors. You can do multiple services with the same fee as long as they are under the same group. So as long as it's all electricity, I'm only paying one fee. But when I had an escalated situation, some of their reps took a long time to call me back.
In one escalated situation, they never called me back. So you have to do your research and make sure that when the reps are trying to sell you the plan, they tell you the correct information first because they gave me some wrong information when I first started with them. They told me, "Oh, you can get anything. Like say, your toilet broke and your air conditioner is broke, you only pay $100 fee for both of those services to get done." But that was a lie because that's a plumber and an electrician coming out, so it's $100 for the plumber and another $100 for the electrician. When this happened, I spoke to a supervisor and he was supposed to listen to the call and call me back, but they never called me back.

I had some electrical outlets that quit. I went online and requested the service. A guy that has been coming out and helping me with that came out and got everything fixed up. The only thing that American Home Shield didn't cover was the fan part of the light. That was one of my outlets that didn't work. So, they fixed the light. And the fan just sits there. But I would not be without AHS. When I bought my house, there were things that were older. And if they couldn't fix them, it was replaced. I had to have a new furnace last year. So, I was very happy that it more than pays for itself. I would recommend AHS to anybody.

We had water backing up in the basement. American Home Shield sent Alto and they cleaned the sewer line. We noticed it the night before I called in. Alto was out within an hour. The guy came in. He made sure that there was no root damage and when they found there was none, he went and cleaned the line out and then just gave us some tips going forward with the “flushable wipes” and things of that nature not actually being flushable and just gave us ideas on how to go through and kind of running clean stuff throughout the month. I've had some other stuff come up too with our washer. So, it's been nice to have AHS and know that it's essentially a flat rate to get someone to come look at it and fix things.

I had a couple of claims with American Home Shield. There was a small gas leak within my tankless water heater. It was the port that connects the gas exchange to the device itself. It needed to be tightened because you could smell gas. The tech was excellent, very prompt, kind, professional, and friendly. He completed the work very fast and got us back up and running with our hot water.
At one point, I was not the biggest fan of American Home Shield. I've been in my home for seven or eight years and I've been with American Home Shield for about that timeframe. Initially, the service was great. But I filed a complaint with them once. I called in an order for one of my HVAC units and the gentleman that came out was absolutely the worst. Not only did he not do the work, but I had to pay the $100 fee at the time.
I was in the process of attempting to look for someone else. It was months with one of my units where we did not have air conditioning and it was very hot. The gentleman claimed he ordered a part and it went to Wisconsin or somewhere else. He's located here in Georgia. He never once told me that the part was mailed to the wrong place and he didn't tell American Home Shield either. We had no idea what was going on.
I have three units and American Home Shield was gonna send the same gentleman to my house again for my second unit that had a part that broke. I told them not to send him to my house again. A second company came out to service the second unit in no time flat and the service was perfect. They got me back up and running. They were also trying to rectify things with the other gentleman from the original company that American Home Shield sent. This was already six months later. A tech came within no time and expedited the service. He was able to fix the original unit.
Just the year or so before, a similar incident happened. This was the first unit where I had horrible service. It had shown signs of failure maybe a year or two before, where it would work but then not work. At the time that I called and made the claim, the company came out and said the unit was working. I told the tech it wasn't working the whole weekend. But since it was working when the tech came, there was nothing he could do to the unit. I went on ahead and paid the $100. The next time I made a call, which was within another month or so, the unit did it again. By the next day, it started working again before the service provider could come to my home. I called American Home Shield back to cancel the service. They wouldn't refund my $100. They were like, "Oh, well. Once the order is made and the guy is on his way--" But we haven't even set up an appointment.
Whatever policy was at that point, it was refundable after maybe 24 hours. The call was made on a Friday evening. The unit started working over the weekend. It was probably by Sunday night or morning or Monday morning when I called to say the unit was working and to cancel that appointment. American Home Shield could maybe at least have held it as a credit if I called again. I had to go through times of intermittent on and off with that same unit until it finally went fully kaput when I called.
Overall, American Home Shield has improved. With my latest call, my hot water had to be turned off because of the gas leak. Water was running but it was just cold. I let American Home Shield know and asked if they could make the claim an urgent one because I have elderly individuals in the home. They put the urgent request in but I still had to wait for 48 hours instead of 2 hours before.

Our washer wasn't working and the water was not draining. We did an initial video diagnostic. So I had a phone call, and used my phoned and showed them what was going on. They ordered the parts, and the technician came out and fixed it with one home visit. It went so well. But I had one claim that was absolutely outrageous. We couldn't get our oven fixed for nine months and I had planned to take American Home Shield to court before they would address it. I absolutely intend to cancel my service with them and find a different warranty at some point in the near future.

I had a commode that was not working right. I had asked AHS to put in my file two plumbing companies never be sent to my house. But they had assigned it to one of those companies. It was called Pipe Down Plumbing. I called AHS and said, “This ain’t gonna work. They're not allowed here.” They sent a guy out here who screamed and threatened my wife when she is by herself to the point where she locked him out of the house and called the police.
American Home Shield quickly rescheduled it for Ferguson and Son's Services. They sent a young man out. Very polite and professional. He had it working within 45 minutes and showed me what he had done, showed me the part he replaced. And it's working fantastic. He cleaned the bathroom himself. It was pleasant. Ferguson also worked on the garbage disposal and got that working for me. Both of those issues were called at the same time.
I used to recommend AHS unconditionally, but in the last six years, I've had a very bad experience. When I try to go online to schedule it, the online scheduling doesn't work. When I try and call, I always get somebody who now is very difficult to understand.
I had a pool pump problem. AHS told me I wasn't covered for the pool pump. I am. I bought that extra coverage. This was three years ago. And they had this person I tried to talk to. And they said, “Pool pump. Now, this is in the bathroom?” “No.” This lady had no idea what a swimming pool was. And next thing I knew, I got an inoperable pool and no one showed up.
I called AHS to find out what was going on. I called the contractor they said was, and they said, “They canceled that.” So, I AHS and they said, “It's not covered.” “What is covered?” Since they contracted out their operators that we could talk to, I often come away disappointed. And I seem to get the same person. She doesn't have any clue whether it's a garbage disposal. I would get somebody who is difficult to understand and they don't understand what goes on in American houses, especially if I called in the evening. But the lady I talked to when I finally got to talk to someone about Pipe Down not coming down to my place was pleasant and understood everything that was going on.

Something was going on with the ignition switch of the furnace. Contacting American Home Shield's 800 number is not that difficult and their customer service was good. The techs got up there within a decent amount of time, too. The first time they came out after a couple of days then for this last call, they came the next day. But it looks like I got some cost that I didn't expect to be with and I don't like that. AHS would cover the furnace, but then they won't cover the cost of installing, something about air quality testing, and a bunch of other stuff which would mean $1,300 of extra cost on me. I need to really check out my policy and see what it covers in terms of outside cost to those appliances when it comes to installing them.

I've only had to submit a ticket through the website and somebody would call us in less than 48 hours. AHS is worth it for getting a new home purchase. But AHS should make sure they vet the companies they use. The very first thing we had was problems with the AC and it was because the company that installed it cut corners.

My heater wasn't kicking on. It's frustrating that on their website, I can't specify what the issue is. I just put "Other" and that's my only option. It would be helpful if I can put more comments so they already know. When the contractor calls me, I have to re-explain it. Other than that, the techs were fantastic. The only reason I have the house warranty is because of the old furnace and for that, I'd recommend AHS. If you have older appliances to keep on the warranty, it's worth it. But if I have newer appliances and some of them aren't covered, that's a little frustrating. Also, when I first moved in, I had an electrician look at a panel because there was some water damage. AHS wouldn't touch it and they do not believe it's an issue. They're just trying to put a Band-aid on it. But from a homeowner's perspective, it makes me uncomfortable that there has been water damage inside an electrical panel.

A few months ago I called American Home Shield because the microwave was not working. I paid $85. Last year, they repaired the same product. So I called them, and then they came and they look at the product. They said some parts needed to be ordered. So, they ordered some parts. They replaced the part. We had a little delay on that because many times they tried to schedule and we are not home. We had to reschedule it and back and forth. It took about four weeks to get it done. Then the next day, I look at it and then it started making a noise. The fan was touching something. So, I called again and I told them that whoever replaced the part need to come and check what was going on. The guy came down and then he saw that some parts were touching to the fan, and that's how he got that fixed. Right now, it's working well.

I like the coverage of American Home Shield. I did a claim for my refrigerator that went out and we were able to get that fixed. I also had a claim for my oven and my washing machine. The techs were not able to fix the washing machine as it was deemed not fixable. But they were able to fix the oven. It went out again then it came back. That aside, the tech was excellent and so knowledgeable. He was friendly and gave me good information on what were the best brands to look for as a replacement. The only thing is sometimes it takes a long time to get the parts because American Home Shield sends the parts to the companies that they send out instead of the company just being able to go and get the part and fix the appliance right away. That is a little time-consuming when it comes to that. But it's worth the money.

The washer was not working. So, American Home Shield sent Cooper Appliances and they looked at it. They thought they could fix it, but when they got back and worked it up with their office and with AHS, they found that it was way too expensive to do versus either giving me choices of some replacements or a gift card to Lowe's towards replacement of what I chose. I ended up doing the gift card because I had a company in mind. I chose to take the money and get a washer and dryer that matched. I thought how they dealt with me was very fair. It was wonderful. Everything worked out very smoothly.
Overall, I like that if something goes wrong, for a fee, I can get someone out to fix it and that's no charge. If not, I get a replacement. Their customer service reps were super helpful too. With the very first rep I dealt with, we had phone troubles that day and unlike many places, when we got disconnected, she called me back and told me what she had done to complete everything. I also had great help when I had to call in to discuss how do I go about getting a new appliance. She explained the options that I had and sent me the link. So, she was great as well. He was running late and was apologetic about that. It was good to at least see that he cared. My father and my brother have American Home Shield and they've had positive responses too anytime they've needed to contact them. Word-of-mouth was the deciding factor for me to get the policy and I would spread it on in a heartbeat.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was my washer. When I called them, they directed me to somebody immediately and I had a response from the company within 48 hours. But the technician that came out to my house didn't have his company name on the side of his vehicle and he did not have the proper stuff at the time that he came. I had a washing machine full of stinky water in my house for eight days. Then, he came back out, put a new pump in it, and wanted me to give him a rating on the American Home Shield thing. The whole like thing took around 11 days. What I'm finding is the technicians that most of these warranty companies send out are not reputable. But when I had my air conditioning fixed through American Home Shield a year ago, I did not have a problem with the techs. They were out within two days.
The only reason why I keep American Home Shield is my air conditioning. But I was also told by other people that American Home Shield will fix my air conditioning for 20 years and they will never ever replace it, which is not what's in my agreement. If they can't fix it or if they can't find parts, they are supposed to replace it. I will end up replacing both my air conditioning and just dropping the warranty. It's not worth it in the long run.

Our fridge was serviced several times. We've had microwaves and a dishwasher serviced as well. Recently, Four Seasons HVAC came out. My wife thought the heat pump outside wasn't running properly. My son-in-law tightened up the flush valve but didn't tighten it up enough. I had to replace the call in for Prime. They came and tightened it a little bit more. It was a five-minute service call. AHS is a security blanket so I would recommend. I got a friend who joined because I told him it's not an insurance company, it's a home warranty. They're not gonna drop you if you call them about something. That's what they're there for. I've had them for about 30 years. AHS has been helpful. I've had a refrigerator replaced. The one that was here had issues with the ice and water maker. I've also had a repair for my AC compressor and a sewage ejector pump which was backed up. The tech for the sewage issue was fantastic. Recently, my refrigerator went out and the first two contractors had poor ratings. The second one was responsive but then indicated that they no longer worked on that model. The third contractor did a phenomenal job. AHS is reliable. It's a good feeling that I was able to get these things repaired with the service that I have.

I had a dishwasher problem that I could never get resolved. I got another dishwasher and had to pay for it. If I had gone to a dealer like Lowe's, then AHS gives them a check. But because it was a used washer that I got from somebody else, I didn't have any recourse on my insurance. That was disappointing to me that I couldn't be given anything on it because I could get it cheaper the other way.

AHS has been good in their response to whatever you need done. You could talk to a representative which makes the process much more easier and they get back. They'll get in contact with whoever they need to get in contact with and you get a quick response from the service provider as well. One of the vendors I use through American Home Shield is Greenway and I've used them for a couple years for services on the air conditioning unit. They come out as always and will give you a heads-up phone call to let you know how far they are from your residence, making sure that somebody's home when they come. They do what they're supposed to do and they will give me feedback as to any issues if they found any.
The last time they came out, they found an issue with the heater unit that's up in the attic. I was told that it was having some major concerning issues when they explained it to me. So, I agreed with them to have the unit replaced. They came out in a timely manner. The bedrooms are upstairs and even though the unit is upstairs in the attic, they were pretty quiet because the kids were still sleeping when they came upstairs and they did what they had to do. Then they reached back to me and told me that everything was working fine. They did some test on the unit and told me that if I smelled a certain little smell, that was nothing to worry about. It was just the burn-off of the new unit. I then signed my paperwork and they went about their way.
Their technicians are always good. They introduce themselves when they come to the house and take off their shoes if they have to go upstairs to do some work. The last time they were here, I told them that they didn't have to do that because they've got to climb up in the attic on the ladder. About three years ago, they also worked on the outside air conditioning units, they did a great job, too.

But generally, it’s been good dealing with the contractors as well as the customer service reps from American Home Shield. With every situation where you're dealing with the customer service situation, the contract of service and the understanding of what the level of service may be as a consumer may not necessarily be parallel. I was having an issue with the heating at the beginning of the winter month. The motor was running all the time and it was running up my electricity bill. I went from 250 to 550. I was concerned so I needed a tech to come out and check the unit. Joe's Cooling has been out here several times. So I'm familiar with them. They're good about describing what the problem is and what they recommend. The tech told me to wait till close to summertime rather than having it done now because he doesn't do that service. I have to contact someone else to come in and make sure that the vents are distributing the heat.
Before, American Home Shield didn't have the best quality servicepeople. But they have gotten a better selection of servicepeople that come out now. I've been pleased with the contractors. My husband originally set it up with Home Shield when we moved in the home 30 years ago. I could not see myself without the AHS service. You can call them and someone's out there within a day or two. I go no longer than three days and someone is out here with my complaint. I wouldn't be without AHS. Now that my husband is no longer with me, I still have them. For any issues I have, they take care of it.

American Home Shield came as a referral from my daughter who had a house in Raeford. I trust her and I trust that what she gives me is good information. The very first time I called AHS was because I needed someone to come out and check my HVAC system. The person came out and checked the HVAC and presented with a phenomenal bill, part of which was Freon. I contacted American Home Shield saying my system does not need Freon because I had an independent company out just months prior and they topped it off with Freon. But what AHS was going to do was going to allow me to be charged. It was an extreme amount of money. I did not let that company do any work because they were gonna charge American Home Shield an exorbitant amount of money for something else that they claimed that they were repairing. I told American Home Shield that I was not going with them and I didn't want them.
I had someone working with me who helped me call in another individual. Indeed, there was plenty of Freon in there and the tech had to release some because it had been overfilled. At this stage of the game. I said that I was gonna let that one go. I called American Home Shield again for this electrical thing. All of a sudden, my garage door stopped opening and closing. American Home Shield had to search for an electrician and it took a day for them to set me up with somebody. The technician couldn’t figure out what the problem was and he just replaced the switch that was on the wall. Interestingly enough, I haven't had any further issues. So, far it’s been working okay but it would also do that periodically. What I would do is just go over to the wall and press the reset button. So, it may have been the outlet.
The next month, my monthly premium goes up by $9. It makes me not want to be with AHS. I'm going through my AOL emails now, which are backed up. I don't know if somebody sent me an email but it seems to me that something like that would come in writing, probably in the mail. I wanted to speak with someone from American Home Shield to find out why they would do that. The work that was performed was next to nothing and the premium went up more than 10%. I started at that moment looking for AHS’ competitors so I could make a comparison to see if I want to go with one of them or to just mix it all together.
I’ve called for two separate things and I’ve not been assisted twice. So, it makes me ask what I am paying AHS for. If I pay $50 a month, I could pay for my own technician to come in and do my own work. American Home Shield has done nothing other than get on the phone and call some technicians and schedule them to come in. I know how to do that.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

American Home Shield responds whenever I turn in a claim but it takes forever sometimes to get somebody here. I was having heater problems with our air conditioner and heater. The people they get are decent people but they’re people who bid the lowest on the list to offer their services so they take a lot longer to get out to the house. We've got one guy who comes from Menard to service stuff here in San Angelo. When I had a faucet leak, AHS used a service out of Abilene, who supposedly had an office here in San Angelo. But you have to wait several days for service because they were being used out of town so many places. When you're paying what I'm paying per month and then you're paying the $75 right up front when you make a claim, you seem like you would get better response.
I've had to have people come out multiple times. One would say, "It was this," another one would say, "It was that". And that was the same thing on my air conditioner heater not long ago. One said it was the breaker. One said it was something else. It kept going back and forth. So finally, we got the breaker replaced and it fixed it. But I went through two visits by the air conditioning people and then two by the electrician. And they shouldn't have to do that. That takes up my time having to rearrange doctor appointments, this and that because they give you a four-hour response time. So, it's inconvenient.
I've started looking around for other ones to see if I can find someone that might be even better. I've been talking to other people trying to get a good idea of what other warranty companies are out there that offer good service. We've had AHS out here quite a bit over the years since we've had them and it seems like it's getting worse. There are more out of town people now who are coming in to do the service.
I've got something I need to call in again but I'm trying to decide whether to call AHS or just call someone myself to have them come out and fix it. Maybe it's gonna be a little cheaper if you go through American Home Shield, but you're giving up time and convenience to have them come out, sometimes three times or more to take care of the problem. Another problem is you don't know whether it's American Home Shield not doing their job and not following up or if it's the person that's coming out and doing the work. You don't know where to pin the blame.

But if we've been having the same issue with the same appliance within the last six months, I don't want to keep paying $100 for the techs to come again. We had a leak which we were told was inside the pipes. It was a major concern because we were told it was a huge leak and it was going to cost thousands of dollars. It was a leak that had nothing to do with inside the house but with the irrigation system. Filing a claim with American Home Shield online is fabulous. But their telephone lines are horrible. They have outsourced to countries such as India and the Philippines. Thus, the individuals have no access to real data and it's going in loops. They choose the contractor and you cannot go back and complain. There's just no point of return to say, “This contractor is not good,” or “That's not happening.” That's a flaw in their system.
That aside, the majority of their contractors are quite well, knowledgeable, courteous, and speedy. For this claim, we sent an email to get a contractor out and one called. They have a policy of 24 hours to 48 hours maximum for a response. An appointment within a couple of days and someone showed up and took care of the problem. Overall, we are pleased with the services of American Home Shield in comparison to some other companies. They choose their vendors carefully and they are vetted. If I had 10 vendors that came in the last three years, possibly only two were totally useless.

With American Home Shield, it's pretty easy to service or repair and there's the peace of mind of knowing that it's kind of a small price to pay per month, but that all your major appliances and plumbing issues are all covered. We've used them over the last nine years for a variety of appliances. I got offered a free home warranty for one year through another company when I purchased my home, but I still stuck with American Home Shield.
I had a Kenmore Pro refrigerator with an icemaker that stopped cooling on me one night. I made the service request as soon as we noticed that it was about nine at night. The contractor was out there within 48 hours. They came prepared because I put in the model number of the fridge when I put in the work order. So they brought some parts to what they thought the issue could be so they didn't have to order anything. They replaced the compressor and we were back up and going within an hour.
I lived in The Woodlands, which is a pretty populated area, and now I live in Cleveland, which is a little bit more rural. I've had a couple of plumbing requests. But American Home Shield's stock of people to choose from within this area is not quite up to the level of some of the ones that I had gotten when I was living in The Woodlands. But still, they did fine. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I've gotten a lot of people to sign up.

There are so many exclusions and loopholes that I always end up spending 100s to 1,000s rather than just the service rate. Additionally, customer service has plummeted. While trying to cancel my plan I was basically subjected to behavior tantamount to harassment to continue with the policy - not from just one, but 3 representatives! Initially, I thought my claim was for the heater. But it was the electrical switch that had flipped in the electrical panel box. But the first tech made it sound like it was an anomaly kind of thing, that it was loose in there. When I called again, I thought it was heating and air but it wasn't. The heating and air company that came the second time told me that the switch was actually not good and the breaker wasn’t good. So they transferred it to electrical.
The electrician that came out was great. He called before he got here. He informed me that he had someone that was training with him and that they were on their way, they'd be here in however long. They showed up on time and took him a little bit longer because he was showing someone something. But that didn't bother me. The heat pump required two breakers. When he pulled out one of them, it was almost burnt up. And one breaker was different from the other. They were different brands. So he made sure to put in the same.

AHS would not listen to the consumer. I'm the person that was caught up and they were listening to a vendor. They weren't listening that there had been a fire and that you can't just replace a part where fire has been. Because to do that, you're risking the lives of everyone in the house. I had to call back to back over the course of a year and a half to get them to, first off, return my call. I wasn't able to get a return phone call until I did three things, posted them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, whichever social media I could find.
I found the CEO, CFO, and another part of management, and I blasted them. I finally got three phone calls back on the same day. This was concerning my stove and my stove eventually got replaced. They also gave me a month or two of free service. But it was a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money I paid out for 8 to 10 months and no follow-up and follow-through.

The last time I called American Home Shield about the AC unit was about two years ago. Their website changed from the last time I used it so I had to get back into the system. Overall, it was good and easy to do. I did a claim recently. A guy from A-US Air came out and he found the problem. He worked with us, meaning that he replaced the breaker in the unit. We couldn't replace the breaker that was outside. He told us which one we needed to get and we replaced that breaker so he could finish the job. Once I got done doing that, which took about maybe 30 minutes, he came back on site and finished the repair of the AC unit.
Get American Home Shield and use A-US Air. Even though you're paying close to $100, the home warranty is worth it over time because your appliances can cost you a lot. That's why I stuck as long as I did. They've been very good to me since 2009. When I moved to my home, my AC was shot. American Home Shield had someone come out. He realized that my AC was not fixable and the home warranty replaced the whole unit with no out-of-pocket cost to me. Also, American Home Shield works on different things and not just on ACs. They work on refrigerators, fans, garage door openers, dishwashers, and washing machines.

This is after me hounding him to come out since the very first visit. AHS told me to just wait until he contacts me 4 days after my claim!!! I have had to purchase a deep freezer and mini fridge which I was told was my problem because I did not have "permission" to buy that by the customer service rep. SO I guess I was supposed to just let all of my food go bad while I wait on them.
The tech told me that I had to keep calling him if I wanted to get it fixed but AHS would not just get me a new fridge. He said he will have to keep coming out trying to fix it and the very very last thing he might be able to do is get me another fridge but it will be cheaper than the one I have. Today the ** hit the fan because the fridge that he's still "trying" to fix has now flooded my downstairs and now I am looking at a homeowner's insurance claim. I had American Home Shield on my Orlando house for five years and I had one on my house in Harleysville for maybe 15 years, before that. The one I have now, I've had since August of ‘21. I like that this home warranty covers stuff. The negative is that sometimes, they're just not as responsive as necessary. When I had an air conditioner take a dump up in Harleysville, we had the two hottest days at 100 degrees and I couldn't get anybody out. There were other people I could call and they would have been there that day. But because they weren't approved by American Home Shield, I couldn't use them. The issue I've had is when I had an issue that needed immediate resolution, sometimes they didn't have somebody. I call them back to find me somebody else and they can't. If I say, “Look. I know somebody that'll do this. I can make a phone call. They will be here today.” They tell me that would be on me.
I did a reimbursement once and the process was a frigging nightmare. I just said screw it and I paid for it because it wasn't worth the aggravation that I went through. They told me I had to do this and do that. That aside, I still keep coming back because American Home Shield does a good job for the most part, as long as it's not a 911.
Recently, I had an issue with the washing machine leaking. I thought I had a bad seal because of where it was leaking from. The tech went through and showed me, “Okay. It's not leaking, but I know what your problem is. It's a very common problem." I didn't know that I was supposed to do certain types of maintenance on it. He would not show me but he said, “If you do this, this, and this, it's fine. It's not difficult.” He was right. I did everything he told me and solved a lot of the problems. I also had a refrigerator claim because the little thing in between the barn doors when you close, one of them would not go over. I couldn't get it to. The tech ordered a part and reinstalled it. That works fine. He was very helpful and he did what he was supposed to do.

When I got the confirmation on the contractor and I went to their website like I was supposed to, they said pick between these three dates and times, which will be best. So I did that, but I never got a confirmation as to which one it would be. The first one was gonna be the next day, and I said, "Well, I can try to stick around here, but my window between 8:00 and 12:00." So I dropped my son off at school and I tried calling the contractor at 8 in the morning just to see if I was going on somebody's books for the day. But I didn't get anybody when I called. I work about an hour away, and then I got a text message saying, "Your technician is gonna be there in 10 minutes." It was annoying. My wife had stuff that she had to do but it all ended up working out in the end. My wife was able to hold off for an extra hour, but that was kind of a pain.
I have American Home Shield on multiple properties. For my other property, the furnace went out and I called American Home Shield. I did not realize that I was gonna have to pay for most of the furnace. Then American Home Shield said they would give me the money for what they would cover. The furnace stuff was around 3,000 dollars, and all they would cover was $600 of it. So that made me feel iffy about it.
I had to renew one of my policies and I had to call to do that. I wasn't able to do that directly online for whatever reason. I also noticed that the price went up $30. They're raising the prices but when I have to replace the furnace, I'm still coming up thousands of dollars. But American Home Shield has come in handy with some of the things, but there were certain things that I didn't understand. We had a stove top burner that stopped working, and it took forever for them to replace that or get it fixed because they had to get a special bracket instead of just pulling the whole unit. But in the end, we got a working stove top again, so that was good. It cost me 100 bucks, so I was happy with that.

I move houses and I've had American Home Shield on every house. I had them at my last house and at one of my rental homes. Their claim process is good and easy. You just go online. The cost is pretty good too and it's easy to budget. I'm happy and pleased with their services. The only problem I had with contractors was when the compressor went bad on my heat pump outside. The third person American Home Shield sent out figured out it was just a compressor and it wasn't a big deal. It was repaired and I was happy.
I also did a claim when there was a leak in the pump and I didn't know what it was from. The techs had to wait to come out because I had a family emergency and had to go out of town the day after. It was not their fault that they didn't come out for a week. When a tech came, he was there for a total of an hour. He had to leave to go to the supply house and get a part of some sort. I was there the whole time until I yelled down to him and he said he was finishing up. Now, there’s no water dripping anymore.

I was having an issue with my heater not working. When I turned the thermostat up for heat, it would not heat. The tech that came out was very professional. He had to replace some part and at that time, it looked like it was fixed properly and everything was working. I've been using American Home Shield for about 10+ years now and I've had several issues they fixed fine. They had done a great job.
My biggest complaint with American Home Shield is with regard to my air conditioning unit. I currently have an open ticket for the AC. It was opened June of last year. I was told they were waiting on parts. They gave me 114 days plus 14 days for the parts to get here and that timeframe elapsed back in January. We sweated for months and still don't have the problem resolved.

Someone from American Home Shield called me and said that they'll call me back when everything has been completed. But the part hasn't come in yet because no one called me to schedule to put the new parts in. Overall, I love American Home Shield. They're excellent. They usually take care of the situation. If I'm having a problem with any of the companies that are within their network, I let them know about it, and then they will use another one.

American Home Shield took a while with my oven claim because the first contractor, Sears, said that they came out but they never did come out. My issue started in October and the first appointment was supposed to be in November, but it just got taken care of. Initially, the lady wanted me to pay another fee again but I told her that I've already paid my $75 fee. Then she had to authenticate something and then see that nobody came out before they got somebody else out again. It could have happened quicker. Other than that, it was a good experience. The second technician came from Atomic Tech and he was great. He identified the issue and explained it to me. Then he came back out and took care of it. I'm glad American Home Shield didn't send Sears again. I did specify to not send out anybody from that company.

I'm not liking American Home Shield's service at all. I had a claim on my plumbing and Gator Drain said the well was the problem. They also looked in my leaking faucets and stuff but they said they got to have a separate work order. I paid $150 and literally, they took out a toilet and then put it back. That was pretty much it. Now, our AC unit is broken and May Heating and Air came out here for about 30 minutes, ran some tests, and said they have to replace it. It's been two months. We keep calling AHS but they said they gotta talk to May's. We live in Florida and we have no AC. Right now, I am not a happy customer.

AHS is convenient. So far, the technicians I've had to deal with have been fine. They've been prompt, they come on time, they come in, do what they have to do, and they get it done, and they do it in a timely manner. When my furnace wasn't putting out any heat, I like the fact that when I had to call back because the first one they put in only lasted six days, they were very prompt in getting my matter handled, especially with us having inclement weather and it was cold here. They were able to get somebody out that same day. I appreciate their promptness and getting on top of that, making sure they got that handled so I wouldn't have to be cold.

AHS is okay, but the problem is the people that they're sending are taking advantage of the customers. They say a lot of things are not covered and they use words, modification, which is no modification. For example, you get a water heater, you put it on, take it in and out, and they will say, "Okay, we need to modify this." But if you get somebody else, they will say it's a simple in and out.
Recently, Sears came out and it was a bad experience. We went without a refrigerator for more than a month. We didn't know what was going on. My part was available. But every time I'd call Sears, they would say it was not available. I would call American Home Shield and they would say, "Call Sears." We were in limbo between the both of them.
Some of the contractors are good. They act so fast. But some of them don't even call you and don't even respond to you. They put you in the back of the list, and sometimes we were told that they don't get paid from them, that's why they don't treat us well. And when you call American Home Shield, they are no help. There's no supervisor. If they try to get you one, they put you on hold, and then they hang up on you after that.

I've done some claims with American Home Shield before. I went online and paid the service fee and then they sent a technician out either the same day or the next day. When an old air conditioning unit failed completely, AC Wizard came out. It was very smooth, competent, and quick. American Home Shield is responsible for everything from the point after I make the payment. But I stumbled on that first response about what they were doing. They offered to pay what was covered in the contract and I decided that I wanted to do more than that and upgrade that system. So, the fact that they charged me whatever they charged me was not an issue for me. They did provide me with a competent source for writing up the replacement. We've had four claims over the years and in each case, they've responded quickly and had very competent technicians out and got the problem resolved quickly.

American Home Shield tried to find somebody to come out here to do it. But I was on the emergency cable. So that never worked out. Also, I was in Kelseyville, so it's hard to get somebody out there. It has been a bit of a struggle to get the stuff done. The automatic email notifications were good. Once something happened, American Home Shield was usually good about sending an email through. But when there was an issue with their providers not communicating properly, that was an issue. We were trying to get our furnace looked at and taken care of. And the people that AHS had coming out here were missing an obvious problem. We had to get somebody else that they didn't support out here to figure out what was wrong.
Trying to get the people that AHS was working with to communicate with us and having them communicate with us became tricky because they were, "Our people say that there was nothing wrong." But we said, "No there is. Somebody showed us and it's obvious that there's something wrong. So you need to get them back out here to look at it." And it took forever. They had to acquire another provider that came back out.
That caused another issue because they had a debate whether it was the furnace or the ducting, and it was where the ducting connected to the furnace. The person said it was a furnace issue but AHS said, "No. It's a ducting issue." But it's both. The furnace isn't working properly because it's not connected to the ducting. That took a while to get resolved. And finally got that group out here to put it back on.

The contractor American Home Shield sent out the first time, which was around the holidays when my wife does a lot of cooking, came out and changed a couple of light bulbs and within a week, I had the same problem. When I contacted them back, it took a while. The people wouldn't even answer the call. I called AHS back and they couldn't reach them. And when they did, the person came out and said, "He changed one of the bulbs that had gone out."
And before he got to the truck, I took that bulb and put it in the lamp and it was working. I said, "It doesn't seem like it's the bulb." And he said, "I guess it's the wiring. But I'm going to report back to them and see if they want to cover, what it's gonna cost to fix it or repair it or whatever, and I'll get back with you." I waited 30 days for him to get back with me. I contacted AHS, and they told me, "It's been 31 days or whatever, so you got to pay another $75." I said, "To do the same work that was supposed to have been done the first place?" They said, "That's our policy. That's the only way we can send somebody else out to redo it." And I said, "Okay, I need it. Because now, I have about four or five bulbs that are out and some flicker."
I paid the $75 and AHS sent the other guy out. He looked at what was going on and said, "Some of the bulbs that you have in there, they are not appropriate. They don't work well together, different bulbs. I notice you got another new box there. Those bulbs don't really work in this type of lighting anyway. But I'll fix it. That's your problem." It is the type of bulbs and you have to have them all set right. And he did that. So far since that, my wife and I haven't seen any blinking. It seems like he has done the job.
He sounded like he knew what he was talking about because as soon as he came in, he said, "Hey, I see your problem." And I just happen to have another brand-new box of a different kind. He said, "Let's put them all in from this box." He did and, so far, it seems like it solved my problem. But I told American Home Shield, "I went to 31 days because I was waiting on the other people, Kelly Brothers, to get back with me and he said he was getting with you. So, that's not really my problem. But hey, I need the thing working, so, okay, I'll pay another $75. But I don't want the same people back out." That was when they sent me Lite It Up and he fixed it. I just counted it as a loss for the $75.

I have an ongoing issue where I had a new thermostat installed because the old one wasn't functioning correctly. It's my downstairs thermostat, and it's connected to a gas furnace. It turns off whenever it receives a heat call for it to kick on and start heating the house again. It resets and reboots the thermostat, and it's inconvenient 'cause the whole process takes five minutes for it to get back up and connect to the Wi-Fi. The repair people traced the wiring harness and said everything was connected to the right color wires. They replaced a heat capacity switch, and it's still doing it. The technician was very polite and professional. Unfortunately, he couldn't figure out what was going on with it. I have an eight-month-old, so I'm busy and I just never called them back. American Home Shield hasn't gone above and beyond to resolve this one issue and I didn't receive follow-up from them. Besides that, everything's been positive and I'm happy.

The tech who came did a good job and everything was taken care of. When my heat was cut, there was an odor and I thought it was the heater core. But he said we didn't have that because our unit is using gas. So he sounded like he was very educated about the heating and air system. He said that the smell was because of the heating strips and when it's cold outside, it makes my heater work harder, so that's what put on that smell. But eventually, as the heat stays on, the smell goes away. When he was here, he didn't have to do or repair anything. He said everything still looked good and in place. He also told me to make sure I do my yearly AC/heating checks to keep everything on the up and up.

I even left the door unlocked for the latest man that worked on my freezer the last time he came. When he called, I told him to just come on in. United Air Temp was sent for a plumbing issue. They were wonderful. We had something that my daughter would find down in the basement. She doesn't let me go down there anymore, but she comes here two days a week and she would find a spot down there. They came once, checked everything, and said everything was fine and none of the pipes were dripping.
The tech even came up and he pulled my refrigerator out to see if anything was leaking back there and going down through the basement. He said, "No, everything was fine. But I'll tell you what. Leave the spot there and if it gets any bigger, call us back." The next guy came and pulled the refrigerator all the way out and there was something leaking from the refrigerator. He said, "Just clean it up down the basement, clean it up up here, and I'm sure y'all will be able to figure out what it is." We did. They have been so courteous and so nice to me. I'm so glad I got this service. They just increase their price every year. The last bill I got was outrageous.
So, I called Home Shield and the lady on the phone was wonderful. I said, "My daughter recommended y'all to me. Do y'all have any kind of friends and family courtesy for her?" She credited her her next payment and half of her next one. I thought that was great. Also, they gave me a senior citizen discount, which also was great. I'm very pleased with Home Shield. The washer was maxed no matter what load you put it on and then it got so bad where it started breaking my glasses in my kitchen. With the dryer, it came on but it stopped spinning. Then the light bulbs in my microwave went out. I called the claim in on a Friday. The contractor came out on Tuesday the following week. The tech said he knew what was wrong with it and he had to order the parts. The ordered parts came in about 10 days later.
Overall, American Home Shield is good, but it depends on what policy you have. When I first bought the house, I was grandfathered in with the contract I had. I wasn't aware of so many things that were like hidden inside the contract. Once I made a phone call and tried to make a claim, they basically broke it down to they can't do that fix because I didn't have this type of plan. That was why I changed the policy and getting everything in the house covered.

They have increased the monthly amount and anytime I have a problem, I have to pay the service fee which is another problem for me. Plus, when the techs come out, I have to pay for any parts that they have to add. Recently, my heater was not putting out warm air. I had to pay $75 for the tech to come out. He said the issue was a wire that was causing the heater not to put out warm air. Within 14 days, I had to call him back because the same problem exists. Another tech came but AHS didn't charge me $75 the second time which was great.
I had added rooms to my garage and tried to extend the heating elements to that area. I was told that the capability of the heating unit that I have doesn't have that type of capacity. So I have to live with what I'm getting or when it really breaks down, I have to get a larger capacity unit. I pay AHS $50 a month and I use the service sparingly. But when I use the service, I also have to pay a service charge to get the people to come out. So for $50 each month, you're just paying for having AHS. It's a double whammy. Right now, my refrigerator is leaking and I had service less than a month ago. AHS will say, “Okay. We'll send a refrigerator guy out. $75 service charge." That’s if they can or cannot fix the problem.
Last year, I had to fight with tooth and nails because my toilet seat was damaged. I called the tech out and he said, “You need a new toilet bowl.” And I said, “Well then if I'm paying Home Shield for service, then they should supply me with the toilet bowl. What service are you giving me?" It’s just being a middleman. AHS has to give me more than just being a middleman to say, “Okay. You need service so we’ll connect you with the service people." I really got upset with them. And it took about three times going back and forth with them before they actually called the service and they actually brought me out a new toilet. If AHS's service is just being a middleman, I don't need one. I can be my own middleman.

The guy that came out for my recent claim with AHS was polite and nice. But the faucets, we had them here prior over 13 years old, and we just did a remodel a year and a half ago. Now, this brand-new faucet, he was telling us the reason the handles are twisted and it leaks is a calcium buildup after a year and a half. I don't know how he really knew that 'cause he didn't take it apart. He just looked at it. I also called American Home Shield today and they said they don't cover calcium buildup. So, I'm gonna have to call a regular plumber. I've always been satisfied with my experience with AHS. But I'm not very satisfied with this.

I had a leaky pipe under my kitchen sink. The tech that came out did that job fine. The only thing I didn't like was I had a clog and then he tried to tell me that my cast iron pipe under my house was broken, that it was that. But when I opened up my cleanout, the water was coming right through and it was clear. That felt strange that you wanna recommend several thousands of dollars worth of work when there was no evidence of it.
AHS has also gone up on the rates for the one that I have. I like the appliance ones, but the electrical, the wastewater, the plumbing parts, you can get cheaper in other places, but there's nothing for just appliances. The only reason why I'm keeping AHS is because of the appliance, but I'm actively looking for something that does appliances, and then I'll cancel AHS because it's too expensive plus the $75 deductible.

For my recent claim with AHS, I had two heaters that would not light. I submitted the claim on the phone to American Home Shield. But Bennett's Heating and Electric had the wrong number, an old number that was listed to an account. They contacted that old number, which wasn't me and they said they didn't need any service. I called Bennett and I said, "American Home Shield says you will be here by 10 o'clock." They said no, it was cancelled by the homeowner. I said, "I'm the homeowner. I didn't cancel anything." They said, "Let us call American Home Shield back," and they came out. It was amazing. I love them. They did well. It didn't take them long. It was fixed and ready to go.
Submitting a claim with AHS wasn't difficult. But the thing is, there were not enough options for me online. I tried it online first but I accidentally submitted three claims. I had to call and get it cleared up. When I did that, everything seemed to work better. Knowing that American Home Shield has excellent contractors makes me feel comfortable, knowing that I don't have to worry about creating a relationship with a repair guy, and who I can trust and who would I want in my house. We’re dealing with a claim with the microwave and we're in the process of waiting for the replacement to be ordered. The microwave itself is available right now, but the trim kit is not. Generally, it’s been good dealing with the customer service reps at American Home Shield but there have been times that I’ve been frustrated. I'm still sort of going on with a heat and air unit. In December, one of them quit working and I called another heat and air company to come and see what the problem was after American Home Shield's people had come. They said that they would not pay for the part that they needed. So I called an outsider to come in and look at it and they fixed something. But apparently, it wasn't the right fix.
My Realtor called and said that AHS needed to do something to fix this heat and air because I was without heat downstairs for almost a week. It's been one thing and another and a lot of them have been fixed promptly. But this heat and air is frustrating because there have probably been seven different calls for the same unit. Back in the summer, I went for two weeks without air conditioning. I was having issues with moisture in the home because I was waiting on the air conditioning to be fixed. Also, there were four different visits for the dishwasher and the techs finally fixed it but what they fixed was something that they had messed up to start with on the very first call, which was the drain hose was crimped. It had gotten so that the drain wouldn't drain at all.

The contractor was very polite. But there's one issue that hasn't been resolved yet. When the washer went bad, a transmission was ordered and they ended up not putting that in. I have called twice for American Home Shield to come and pick up the parts. It's a big box and it still hasn't been picked up. I would like to get that out of my house. My problem having this transmission picked up is very frustrating. Still, the experience with AHS has been very positive and they've been very quick to handle my problems with the appliances that I have. They seem to respond quickly.

Twice, I had to call and get another person to come out. Once, they had to come back twice because they had to fix a part. But I've been pleased with the service providers that American Home Shield has provided to me. The payment is becoming pricey though. I got my renewal notice today. They were like, “Well, instead of replacing that part, we can call you for a new AC.” The AC that we had in the house was really old. So, they told us whatever the insurance gives for the part, we can include it into the new AC. That was what they did but I don't know how much the insurance covers. I was so confused with that. We had to get a loan for that because I called American Home Shield and they were like, “No, it didn't get approved.” The company replaced everything. They also said, “Well, if you change everything, you'll have AC today. If not, the part is gonna take a couple of weeks.” I have two babies so I was like, “No. Yeah. Just replace it.”
We also had another experience about a year ago with the AC as well. It was really easy. The issue was something on the outside unit, and they just came and replaced it. That was super easy and pretty quick. Also, the fridge was leaking water and we had an issue with the washing machine, too. Somebody came and fixed it the same day, so it was pretty easy. Overall, AHS has been really good. This last time with the AC, that Houston company's customer service is not that good. They came and fix it, and put in a new AC. Two days later, the AC was not working. So, we called and they were like, “Oh, yeah. We have to send a request to the installation team, this and that.” Two days went and there was nothing, so we didn't have AC for two days after getting the new AC. When I called AHS, they automatically called the company, and they called me right away. So, the insurance is really helpful.

We had trouble with the claim, and they did reimburse us for some of it, but the vendor that they used for a plumbing issue told us something that was false. I had a personal friend plumber come out there who said they wanted us to do work that would have caused us to tear up the floor and replace a bunch of plumbing. We ended up having to get our own personal plumber out there, and then I had trouble getting reimbursed by Home Shield. So that particular claim ended up being a problem. But the rest of the claims have gone well. The rest of the vendors have been friendly.

It was 20-degree outside and my heat decided that it didn't wanna work. I had to do something on my phone, and something online to set up my appointment. It was user-friendly. They asked me what timeslot was best for me. I talked to a person at some point, and then it was automated. The reps were professional. The contractor had to order some parts, the parts came in, and they fixed it. They told me it would take a couple of hours, but they were done less than that. The guys were pleasant. I paid American Home Shield $125 for the service call and it was covered on the plan that I had for what was needed. So, when you are a person who doesn't know anything about repairs, you need some way to be able to pay for things that's not going to break you. It worked for me.

The tech was very professional. We went ahead and replaced the whole unit because it was an older unit that took the older Freon, and it was not feasible to continue. Everything works good.

The water pipe in the floor had broke, and American Home Shield took care of it. I had a good interaction with the contractor. From the first time we used them, we liked their services so we always request for the same company again. Everything is great. The only issue that I have with American Home Shield is when you phone in to talk to customer service, they don't understand what you're talking about. They're using offshore services. They should call back a couple of times to try to get your problem solved because for my electrical claim, it took a long time because the first contractor they sent out didn't do the job. He just came in, looked and made a report and said it wasn't a normal wear and tear. It took me a while to get somebody to understand me.
The guys who were sent in need to come back and take a look at the ceiling fan because I didn't have time to call American Home Shield about it. If you turn on the light, it won't come on until you turn on the fan. It's not being separate.

I had two people come out here and they tried to charge me a lot of money to do a repair. They told me I was gonna have to take the wall down and do all kinds of stuff to fix the issue. I've been dealing with the issue for a long time because I couldn't afford the repair. I set up a claim online and the Home Shield website was wonderful. The techs from Spry Plumbing came right away and they were awesome. They fixed three leaky faucets. What I like about it is that because they contracted with American Home Shield, they're not coming out here to sell me anything. They're not coming out here to say, “Well, we think it's gonna cost you x amount of dollars.” The tech is not gonna do it for the cheapest, quickest, and fastest way out. Spry Plumbing knew how to do the job and got out as quickly as they could so they could keep their relationship with Home Shield good. I'm always telling people to sign up for Home Shield. When my furnace went out, I did a claim to American Home Shield online. had to pay the 125 fee, and they sent somebody out on the next availability date. The technicians did a good job. The first tech wasn't able to resolve the problem. It had to be replaced in its entirety. Then on the second visit, they were able to replace it. I had to pay $1,300 out of pocket. I didn't get a specific answer on why. I know things are wear and tear or outdated, but I didn't know how they do the scale of paying out of pocket. On TV, it appears you pay the fee and it's covered but I guess it was just part of it.

American Home Shield's price is reasonable. 10 years ago it was, "You gotta sign up for one or two years." But now I like that it's month by month. And it's easy to file a claim and have the contractor come out. I had a contractor come out for my AC once, and it was a faster fix. The guy was helpful and nice. He sorted it out. And this one with the leak stuff in my shower, it wasn't a leak. The guy came in and checked around it. He used a moisture meter. I got to confirm there wasn't one. There was a dripping noise in the wall, and he said it was thermal expansion because it's cold outside making a ticking noise.

No actual maintenance was done, and it was just a few quick questions rather than the deep work. We were happy with the technician himself. He was on time. I've been with American Home Shield for several years now and the only issue that I have going now is that their rates have gotten pretty high. I had to talk to them recently because the rates were high, and they made a concession. My contract renewal is in March and the person I spoke to said, "We'll reevaluate in March." The gentleman they sent out was professional. He knew exactly what to do. He knocked it out. He even ordered a part that was still under warranty. And then when the part got in, they came back and fixed it. They finished the job.
I also called for a heating tune-up. The person who came out, I told him there was an issue but he didn't really do much for me. He just said, "Yeah, okay." A month later, it broke and then my heat went out. I had to call American Home Shield and say I need somebody to come out to fix the heater. Luckily, it wasn't the same contractor. One, my claim had to do with central heat and air, and it seemed like American Home Shield didn't wanna cover something, but it was part of the system that needed to be replaced. And I had to get this Susan involved in it so we could move everything and get the work done. But I never get her to answer. And when she does respond to me, it's by text. I don't wanna text. She hands over my problem to somebody else, and that person takes a vacation.
It has been two weeks almost that I've been dealing with a new hot water heater. The top element works and heats up, but the bottom one doesn't. Action Plumbing came to my house four times. American Home Shield wanted to send them back out, I said, "They've been there four times, I don't think the fifth time they're gonna figure it out." They said it's an electrical issue. I already knew it wasn't, but I know they have protocol. The electrician came out, said, "There ain't nothing wrong with your wiring. You've got a faulty hot water heater."
I got a text 20 minutes ago that said my contractor has been assigned. But when I clicked on the AHS link, it came up canceled. I told one of the ladies, "I bet if you were in my shoes, you wouldn't be a happy camper having to deal with two weeks of having no hot water." I just felt like nobody cares. They just wanna sweep it under the door and wish I would shut up, but that's not gonna happen.
If I have to go to my Realtor and my Realtor makes a complaint to Coldwell Bankers and get them involved, that's not gonna be good, because they do a lot of business with Coldwell Banker. But I've had a gut full. I've called, I've argued with numerous people. "I want a second opinion." "You can't do a second opinion." "Yes, I can. Why can't I?" "We have to do a recall." I said, "They're not welcome at my house. You send them back out. I'm not opening the door. Because after four tries, I don't think they know what's going on."
I also got a message, "An AHS contractor is assigned. They will be calling to schedule your service." I click on the link, and it says the same thing, "Short plumbing and drain cleaning." But this one don't show to be canceled. It says they are coming back. I was trying to get through to them. The rep was busy and on the other line. Because when I talked to her earlier and my first text showed that it was canceled, I asked to speak to a supervisor and they told me, "We don't have a supervisor." I'm not stupid. Everybody has a supervisor.

My coverage with American Home Shield is good, but it takes a while to get something fixed. For example, it takes a week for them to hire a person to get out there, then they come out and say, "Oh, we don't have the parts." It then takes 10 days to get the parts in before they come back out. Sometimes it takes up to three weeks to get something fixed. That's happened three times. Once, it even took seven weeks to get an icemaker fixed. On the other hand, I requested service for my water heater and that was a quick one. My water heater was leaking and the repair replaced the entire unit. They were there for an hour the first day, then they came back a couple days later when they had the new water heater and it took three hours for them to install it.

American Home Shield is taking so much time whenever you create a service request. The providers are calling after two days and they're giving some appointment after four days. So, it's taking about one week just to get the technician to come to our house and then do the diagnosis. Sometimes, the providers won't inform the diagnosis to American Home Shield and they don't know about that. Then when we call American Home Shield about that, they are saying that they didn't receive any diagnosis information from the provider. Then they will say they are following up with the provider. But after four days, nothing happens. Again, they will recall the service request and the same technician comes out again.
Sometimes the problem is not related to the provider, like when we think that it's an electric issue, and then the electrician came and he will say, "You know, it's not electric, it's a plumbing issue." American Home Shield will say that they will send a plumber and then they'll close the request. We don't know what will happen after that. If we call American Home Shield again, they will say that they will recall the same ticket and they are sending the electrician again even though the problem is with the plumbing. There is no communication from the provider to the American Home Shield.
One more thing is that whenever somebody comes to our house, they diagnose the problem and then they're closing the request. That's not good. You need some ticket that should be open until the problem is resolved. Just getting the diagnosis doesn't mean that the issue is resolved. So there are so many issues with American Home Shield. I don't like anything about their service.

American Home Shield told us that they were closing the work order out, that it was our fault that the washer was leaking. They seem to be in collusion, American Home Shield sends out a repair company and that company lies in their report back to American Home Shield so they won't have to repair or replace an item. We contacted American Home Shield to try and resolve this problem and they told us that we need a second opinion, they would arrange this.
Before we received any calls to schedule this visit American Home Shield closed our all repair orders saying the the breakdown was due to misuse and abuse on our part. We are two people, our laundry needs are not great, this washer is not abused by our small loads of laundry every few days. This is a great scam. Just about every repair company that American Home Shield uses has a rating of one star, only because less than one is not an option. They make up a diagnosis and report back to American Home Shield who are only too happy to go along with the pretense so that they never have to actually get an appliance fixed or replaced. I was unaware that they had sent a bill to American Home Shield and claimed that they had done a service. That was $100 that I paid for something that I asked to be refunded because nothing was done other than a phone call. I got that remedied the very next week. I put in a second work order. This time, the contractor came out and took care of the problem. It was very timely and well done. They had to order a new tank and kept us in the loop of where it was.
I had a situation last year where there was a plumbing backup in my house. The contract was a little bit misleading. The pipe was two feet up on the outside of my house that was causing the obstruction. It was the same company, Nowell, that came out and gave us an estimate. Then I was informed by American Home Shield that they wouldn't cover it because it was outside of the house, even though it was causing a backup within my house. That's baloney. I ended up paying $2,000 out of my pocket. I considered terminating the service immediately after that. That has been my biggest dissatisfaction with American Home Shield.

My washer died so I requested a washer replacement. The customer service representatives have been great, although it has taken me some time to get my claim process. I had to call them on several occasions because some of the technicians didn't come back out to do what they were supposed to do on the last situation that I had. I told them that I was giving them one more opportunity to get my case resolved, and if they didn't, I was gonna move my services someplace else. The young lady that I spoke with was very willing to help me. The technician that came out was great. Two weeks later, I got my unit. American Home Shield helps you to not have to put out a huge lump sum of money. It's a protection in the event that there are emergencies that happen like this.

I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield. Recently, the clothes weren't drying efficiently. There was also a noise that the dryer started making in the drum. I submitted the claim online and it's very user-friendly. You click the make maintenance request button, and it has a drop down list for whatever you are trying to make a claim against. Everything I needed was in the dropdown. I selected the appropriate buttons then it requested the payment. I received the name of the business and the contact phone number. It said that someone would be reaching out to me, which they did, in order to schedule the service. I had a good experience with the repairman who came. He was in the basement, and we were upstairs working. He called up, told us what the issue was and what he needed to do to fix it. Once we agreed, he fixed it.

The claim for the kitchen sink took four trips. They couldn't fix the faucet. Delta Faucets got American Home Shield to give me a free faucet. When they came to install it, the guy had a hell of a time getting the old faucet out. But he got it out and installed the new faucet. The next morning, I got up and got water in my kitchen and underneath the cabinets. I called them and they said that they could come on Friday. I said, "No, you don't understand. There is water coming. I need you to come today." They came and fixed it, at least they said. I put a Tupperware bowl underneath there to check. The next day, there was water. I called them again. This time, I wasn't so concerned because it had been going all day and there was only a third of a cup. I waited till the next Monday and they came and fixed it.
After the first time, there was water dripping from the drain pipes because the guy trying to get the old faucet out must have moved something. They came and fixed that the next time they came. I fixed the last problem myself. There was water under the sink and I couldn't figure this one out. It was from the new faucet. It's a faucet that you pull the handle out to make a sprayer. The manufacturer hadn't tightened the hose that connects to the sprayer all the way, so it was dripping. I tightened it and it was fine. The plumbers were very friendly but I don't know that they're all as confident as all of them are. When they came when I had a problem with my shower, they had to come again three times. It was the last guy that came that fixed the problem
My condo is above all of the garages and there was water in my garage coming from my neighbor's garage. I called American Home Shield and explained that it was an emergency 'cause I couldn't turn the water off to the whole building 'cause it turns off to all four condos in the building. They said I had to wait four hours to see if they could get a technician out. If they couldn't, then they would give me permission to call a plumber. I waited till 4 o'clock in the morning to get the okay. I tried calling everyone. I finally went to bed at 6:00 AM. I missed a day of work. I got somebody to come out and fix the problem and I'm waiting for them to pay me the $184 that I had to pay the plumber.
I had to call to have somebody come look at the dishwasher. I called them back the next day to add the oven to this call. The next day, I called the appliance company to make sure that it was added. They said, "No, that wasn't added. They added an exhaust fan in your air conditioner." There was nothing wrong with my exhaust fan in my air conditioner. I would call the appliance store and they would say no. They'd canceled everything at that point and would transfer me to American Home Shield. It took six phone calls to finally get it resolved. They're coming today to look at these appliances.

Most of the contractors are good. The technician with A-Appliance Service was straightforward. He showed us that what my wife thought was a problem is not a problem. She just didn't do something correctly. There are a few contractors which are marginal like a couple of the plumbing people that came out. In one case, they tried to tell me the issue wasn't covered, but it was covered because I have a five-star plan. Also, everyone I renewed with at American Home Shield for the last two years would say, "I'll renew it with a discount." But three months later, I get nasty emails from an office in Dallas, Texas saying I owed extra money.

I had to have a contractor come out, diagnose and repair my gas pump on my heater. They were great. However, anytime I have to talk to somebody from American Home Shield, it's terrible. They have a very limited script of things that they're able to say. Any of their employees doesn't understand the work or the industry for the orders that they're fulfilling. You're left at the mercy of whatever contractor that they give you. It's been about a fifty-fifty shot whether or not you get a good contractor or someone that's absolutely terrible. If they send you someone that's terrible and you don't like them, you have to explain to them why and they're not always immediate to get you somebody else right away. There's the monthly fee and the service fee that's involved. But for the most part, American Home Shield saves me a lot of time. For a small to moderate repair, I can have some confidence that it'll be taken care of the next day.

Sunbright Pool Services came out because my pool feature wasn't working. They found out there was something stuck in the propeller. They fixed it. They gave me a free basket for my pool. There was a cracked basket that was pulling leaves through. They said, normally, they charge for that, but they made it complimentary. They were a great company which I can't say about every company that American Home Shield has sent.
Two years ago, I had a refrigerator leak. The owner of the company that was contracted came out and fixed it. It lasted a couple of years then it broke again. He came out and fixed it again but he left a big mess on the floor. I reached out to him about it but he was rude. He said it was my problem. I also told him that he probably needed to replace the parts, but he didn't replace them. He just cut the line. I ended up replacing the refrigerator after that so I didn't have to deal with it again. American Home Shield wanted to send him back out but I told them I didn't want him in my house. It was a bad experience overall. I checked his reviews and he's got 2 stars and tons of people are complaining about the same stuff. It's like he didn't even want to be out there.
I don't like the fact that American Home Shield raised the rate. You gotta pay the monthly rate then a service fee for their contractor to come out. Technically, if it's not anything catastrophic, I could just pay a company to come out and fix stuff for probably less than what I'm paying. When my water heater broke, they didn't pay to replace the whole thing. They only paid me for half of it. I've been debating on whether or not I'll continue to use American Home Shield.

He described what kind of liquid. It went good after that. If it was someone else, he would just say, "Hey, go replace it." My dryer wasn't working. American Home Shield assigned Sears who couldn't really fix the issue. So, I said I wanted a different service provider, and E&J was assigned. The E&J technician looked at the issues one by one, which is the fuse first. He changed one of the fuses to see if that would work. It didn't really work. He looked at the timer, and then he looked at the heater. The heater was fine, so he figured that it could be an issue with the timer. So, he fixed something with it. He got a new part, and that was how my dryer started working. It was working fine for the last two weeks.
I paid $75 for the service fee with Sears. Still, they haven't fixed it. Each and every time I do a call back, they are taking more than three weeks to respond. Sears is one of the worst service providers of AHS. E&J, on the other hand, came the next day and within a couple of days, he was able to procure the part and fix it. In the future, if I'm going to call back, especially for dryer/washer and some of the other things, I am gonna always ask for E&J straight away.

Our heat wasn't working and American Home Shield sent the guy out. In the summertime, two contractors came out. Our air conditioning made some noise and one guy came out and said it was the fan and he did something to it. We had to call him back out. He did a quick fix on it, but eventually, it kept making a noise. AHS sent a different company back out. He replaced the fan. Now, when our unit turns on, it's embarrassing because it makes a rumbling noise, like a train is almost coming through the house. And if we called them back out again, they would charge us for it because it's after the 30 days.
The guy that came a week ago said the wire came loose. And the only person that had touched it before then was the guy who came and replaced the fan. He may have inadvertently touched the wire. The wire that came loose was actually the power to the unit. So, he might have touched something and didn't put it back properly. That caused our heat to go out for three days.
I went online and saw that the people that AHS sent out recently didn't have good reviews. And I told the rep, "We've been three days without heat and I don't want to be in a house without heat because they're not doing it." So, the young lady said, "Could you at least give them a chance?" I did and it worked out. But because all they had to do was put a wire back. Other than that, AHS is good. If I talk to a person, that person is always pleasant and helpful.

They offer to replace your expensive appliance with the cheapest available in the market. In my case, they are offering to replace Miele dishwasher (costs $2400) with a GE one or offering $720 since they were not able to repair that. This was after 4 months of fighting with them. They just don't show up and ignore your service requests. It took almost 3 months and numerous hours of phone calls/chats to have someone take a look at it. Imagine you pay thousands of dollars for their policy and when your appliance is not working, pay another $130 and they just don't show up for several months, you are unable to use your appliance for several months and finally, with hours and hours of phone calls/chats, they will offer to replace the appliance with the cheapest one available in the market! Terrible! Stay away.

Revolff was phenomenal, Home Shield was not. We live in North of Seattle and fly to Vegas to take care of my in-laws. Their refrigerator and dishwasher broke. We ended up replacing the dishwasher. The refrigerator needed to be repaired. They referred me to a company to do the repair. They said that they could expedite the call. So, I called back to American Home Shield, and they said because there was a second refrigerator, it couldn't be expedited. I said, "Look, these people can't even walk very well without assistance." That didn't meet the qualifications. I called multiple times for two weeks trying to get the damn thing fixed. It just circled around and around. I tried to call corporate and talk to a supervisor, and I got nowhere. I ended up having to fly to Vegas three times to get the appliances taken care of in three weeks.
There was no way for me to talk to anybody who could take the complaint and move forward with it. There was no way to talk to anybody in the corporation to be able to resolve this issue. I even drove from my in-law's place across town into downtown and went and knocked on the door of the franchise that they were sending me to. There's a sign on the door that says, "Public people aren't allowed inside." They never answered the door. So, that's where it's at.

We were running the dishwasher and water was coming out on the floor. So, my wife initially checked the door to make sure the door was closed properly, and it was. We also started seeing our floor buckle in our kitchens. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out a repair person who came out. They replaced a ceiling molding in the front of the door, thinking that that was the problem. On that day, it seemed like it was fine. We were washing dishes a couple of days later and water came pouring out of it again just like it had before. We called the service guy out again and whatever he did didn't work because the water started coming on the floor and it started getting worse. And now, warm water is coming out of the dishwasher. The fourth time the guy came out, he determined that the interior of the dishwasher was warped, which was why it wouldn't seal.
Once American Home Shield realized that they were wasting their time trying to fix this thing, they decided to replace it but it was very inconvenient to have techs keep coming back four times. American Home Shield told me to pick a dishwasher. I could go to Lowe's or such and such to get one. But we didn't want one from Lowe’s, because when we bought the dishwasher initially, it matched the refrigerator. It matched the kitchen that we had just gotten refurbished. So, we had only had this dishwasher maybe two years. It was relatively new so we bought the same one but an updated version of what we had. And once we replaced it, we haven't had any problems since.
When we filed a claim, we had been putting off a repair needed for the refrigerator. So, the guy came out and fixed the refrigerator and the dishwasher except he put the molding on wrong on the refrigerator. So, the refrigerator wasn't closing properly. When another contractor came out, as soon as he saw it, he said the darn thing was put on backwards. So, he reinstalled it. And that completely solved the refrigerator issue, but it did not solve the dishwasher issue.
I thought about leaving American Home Shield on a couple of occasions because one time, we were out of heat in our house for two months in January. It was New Year's Eve and our house got cold and I kept turning the thermostat up, and I realized it wasn't the thermostat. It was the furnace. It was into February before American Home Shield approved somebody to come out and make a repair instead of sending people out who didn't know what they were doing. So, for two months, we had to run our fireplaces in our house to stay warm.

I called to file a claim for my dishwasher, and I got a very hard to understand rep on the phone. That is the most frustrating thing to me. She spoke so broken, and I kept saying, "Say it again. I'm sorry. Excuse me?" The other thing is that she had me get my phone, take pictures, and send it so she could see it. It took me a while, but I figured it out.
My mom also has American Home Shield. First of all, she doesn't even have a cell phone, and second of all, that would never work. On the other hand, our service guy from Superheroes was lovely. He kept in contact, because the part had to be ordered, and he was professional and polite. When he came in, he got the job done and did great. My dishwasher works fine, and I can use it.
