Moore Brothers came out for my AHS claim and they fixed the roof over the dining room and over the master bedroom. But they didn't do the inside ceiling where the damage was. They said they had to wait for an order to do the ceiling. They were excellent. When they first came, they said it was gonna rain. They put tarps over the roof until after the rain. After the rain, they gave me a date they were gonna come back and they came back at the specific time they were gonna come back and they got up there and they got busy. Knocked it out real quick. They also cleaned up everything after they worked. I was impressed.

AHS should inform the customer when they buy the contract that certain things such as code changes are not covered. They are not going to fulfill the change of the equipment if the code changes in California if the equipment is no longer made. You will only get a refurbished unit. That's wrong. If the law in California is such that codes are changing, the replacement should be the code. I understand that many people have old equipment and it fails and who wants to pay for new equipment to be up to code if the prices are that much higher. But that should be explained to the consumer up front.
I've used AHS quite a bit lately because there was a renter that left my house in shambles. They replaced some of the items but not all of them. We had an oven that the renter neglected to clean properly. It failed and if it's due to negligence, it's not covered. Also, oil was spilling in the cooktop and it clogged the arteries of the unit. AHS didn't feel that they should be replacing the unit when it was not repairable. They should come up with a policy that covers everything.
Also sometimes, the people you talk to on the phone seems to have problems understanding what you are telling them. They should do better recruitment of people whose English is good. Other than that, my experience with them has been overall positive.

The tenant said that the AC had stopped. The contractor went and the techs verified something. They replaced a part but then they said they needed a second part. They ordered that and they went back and fixed the AC. Everything was perfectly done and everybody is happy. The company took care of everything super fast even though the part was a bit delayed. I'm super happy with them. They did a really good job. The things that American Home is covering are a huge part of the budget if you don't have the warranty. So, definitely you have to have insurance. It's for peace of mind.

There was some kind of deal up underneath at the bottom of the refrigerator where a capacitator burned up. I called AHS on Sunday and the tech was out on Tuesday. He had to order the part and a day or two later, he came back. He put it in and since then, everything has been fine. I like AHS and ever since I've been with them, I've never had any problems. They're always courteous and when the claims are done online, everything's self-explanatory. You just go in there and fill out your deal. Then you get a confirmation email and who's been assigned to come out and do the work. And most of the time, they call within a day to set up appointments.
When the dryer went out and the techs couldn't repair it because it was getting on up in age, AHS replaced it. I went down to Conn’s appliance deal and did an upgrade on the dryer. I just took what American Home Shield paid for the dryer for one like it. They did the same thing on our washer when one of the gears went out on it. The techs couldn't fix it, so AHS replaced it and I upgraded it. So I'm happy with them and I tell people about Home Shield all the time. I tell them that the warranty will save them some money in the long run and it's a peace of mind for everything that's in their house. For example, our hot water heater went out two years ago and if you buy one now the price on a hot water heater for propane is 600 bucks. But I paid $75 to American Home Shield, they put a new hot water in there, and everything was done. That's peace of mind to me.

We had a number of outlets that were not working, the techs went around and tested them and replaced the ones that weren't working, and they've all been working since then. So, I'm happy. I had a back-up on my water main causing leakage. They had a plumber out the next day to look at it. The issue got resolved that day. The plumber was knowledgeable. He told me what was going on and how to prevent it in the future. I have an older house and with the warranty, if something goes wrong, I can just fill out a request to AHS and they'll get the correct professional to come.

I've been with American Home Shield two years, and the first time I called was regarding my garage door. The technician that was out to take a look at it advised me that he'll get back to AHS. They called me back and told me that it was just the motor that was covered by the warranty and not the garage door, but that was covered under my homeowner's insurance. Overall, the service has been good. I like the promptness and the turnaround time that they came. They were very responsive and got me dispatched to a local technician in the area very quickly. Everything is great, so far.

I absolutely loved the contractor, and I wouldn't use anyone else. My dryer and fridge needed some help, and my washer needed to get fixed too. They're replacing my washer. It was easy to submit the claim to American Home Shield over the phone, and anyone that I spoke to was very understanding and easy to help.

The garage door claim was great. The tech came out. He addressed the problem. He went above and beyond. He said he thought he got the one that was there. He said it might work, but it would be intermittent. So, he replaced it. He made sure the other unit was working as well. He was in and out in less than 30 minutes. That guy knew what he was doing. American Home Shield sent the right guy. Good experience.
I had a gentleman out today to fix my dryer. And this is more typical of what I see with AHS. The guy came out and said he had tested a bunch of stuff. And he's said, “It's not this. It's not that. AHS doesn't cover this, but your dryer, internal parts are really dirty and that could be causing it. That's a $50 fee. You have to pay me directly to get that, but that could take care of it.” So, I paid the 50 bucks. He didthat.
“Sir, it's really not the problem. I'm gonna check your vent and see.” I said, "I bet it's the vent because we've lived here seven years, and I don't think I've ever cleaned.” He said, “I unhooked your vent hose. And as soon as I did, it started heating a lot better. So, that's your problem.” I asked if he would replace the vent hose. “Oh, no. I don't do that.”
I paid $100 to have this guy come out. He charged me an extra 50 bucks to do some cleaning, which he just took a vacuum, took the back panel off and cleaned some dirt out of the dryer. And he diagnosed the problem. I gotta go to the hardware store, buy the hose, take the hose off, and put it on. This is not why I paid for AHS to send this guy out so that I have to go take care of the problem. I'm not happy with this. I want the guy to come back out and put the vent, replace whatever it is.
This is the second time this type of thing has happened to me. I called and complained to AHS. They never did anything about it. My wife was home, and we had an HVAC guy come out. Our furnace was leaking. There's damage to the furnace. I have three units of those things that they put moisture in the air put on. And I paid the guy privately. I asked him, “How bad are these units? Are they in bad shape? Are they in good shape?” He said, “Two of your three units are in real good shape.” But he asked, “In the last couple of years, have you had some water damage, I don't know, one of these units?” I thought about it. I said one of them was leaking badly. I mean, water coming out the front of it.” And he said, “That's what this PVC pipe’s for. Did they show you this?” He opened the front channel up, which I never do. It was all rusted inside. And he said, “The guy that did this PVC pipe for you didn't tell you that there’s significant water damage to the unit.” I said, “I had no idea, John. Till you showed me that, I would have never known.”
I told him who it was. And the guy was, “Oh my God. Don't ever let those people in your house. They hire the people that can't get jobs anywhere else in heating and cooling.” It's called Budget Heating & Cooling. He said, “They are the worst of the worst.” It's great to know now. I went on to tell him, “What would you have charged me to put this PVC on these two furnaces?” And he said, “I don't know. Maybe 50, 60 bucks a piece.” My wife paid the guy 250.
I want it fixed. I want it over with, which is why I paid the 50 bucks today to get the thing cleaned. That's why my wife paid the $250. I called on the 250 deal. I called them the next day, and I said, “This is what went down. Is this the way it’s supposed to work?” They said, “No. They should have either done the repair or called us to check to see if that was covered.” I probably should have done the same thing today, but I didn't. It was only $50. But the other time, it was 250. Again, they got us. That rectified our issue, but the guy didn't tell me about all this rust down underneath my unit.
John explained how that home warranty thing works and how those guys get paid. And when he explained that to me, it made sense. He said, “He didn't want to tackle any more than he had to. Plus, he was getting you guys for 250 for this other thing, plus whatever they were paying him for the service call.” Today, the guy left but I'm no better off than I was before. And I'm $150 lighter in my checkbook. So, not happy.
The other time was happy. It was the garage guy. Every time we called, they're awesome. This is the second or third time we've had garage people in my seven years come out. Couldn't say better things about them. But any time I have anybody out to do anything with the plumbing, it's a hit-or-miss deal. I even said to the guy, “Don't you bill the insurance company or them and then I pay you later?” He said, “No. You have to pay me right now.” That's not the way that was supposed to go down. So, I'm calling the home warranty place to complain about this. And I want somebody else to come back out and fix this.
I like the warranty. I've recommended it to friends. I've had friends buy it. And a couple of my friends are were, “Man, this is the greatest thing we ever did.” Over the years, it has worked out for me. It's not consistent. But I had so many problems there. The swimming pool issues that were expensive were handled wonderfully. But it depends on the service provider. Also, I'm dreading to call in and talk to customer service. I cannot sit on hold for an hour. Half the time that I do it, a call comes in that I gotta take. By the time I flip back over, they've answered, and I have to start all over again. Those are my biggest complaints.

Every time we submit a claim, it's always been straightforward and easy to do. The techs that are sent out seem knowledgeable and on point as well. This last time, the guy was exceptionally good and very helpful. I put in a claim for the outside T-line to be looked at because it was leaking, and our garbage disposal was also leaking. American Home Shield dispatched a plumbing company. The plumbing company advised that they weren't able to help with the outside T-line because of American Home Shield's policies. They were able, however, to fix the garbage disposal. The tech replaced it that day, and everything's been running really well. It was a great experience with the garbage disposal. The water continued to drain out of the tub slowly, and I tried to do everything that I could and nothing seemed to work. At that point, I said, "Let me call American Home Shield." I did the service request online, and I loved the website. It works fantastic. The repair people called me a day before, and they texted me to let me know they were coming. They let me know that they were still operating in COVID protocols as well. They were on time and did an excellent job. There was something obstructing the drain, so the guy removed something from the drain. He stuck his hand in there and was able to unblock it. Everything is functioning well now. Those repair people have been in my home before as well and I have no complaints. We also like the peace of mind we have with American Home Shield. American Home Shield is a good program. It's expensive, but I don't have a lot of worries. If something major breaks down, it's mostly covered. I recently requested service for a plumbing issue, and the process was easy. For the TV though, it was transferred to Allstate, and it was very hard to find a phone number to call them when I needed to. Still, the repair people resolved the problems. There was a bit of a problem afterwards, but then it resolved itself on both things.

So, we haven't resolved the issue yet. The people that came seemed to be nice, knowledgeable guys, especially the master plumber they sent out. The other plumber was great, too. I had a problem with my central air furnace that had started making a lot of noise, and so somebody came out and diagnosed it. The motor was worn and they replaced the motor. They had to wait to get the squirrel cage blower. They did not have that with them. They showed up three days later once they had gotten a hold of a replacement part and put it in. I purchased a previously owned home. I contacted American Home Shield to have someone come out and change the locks once I closed on the home and took the keys. I didn't want to live in a place that had been lived in by somebody else who may or may not have still had keys. The initial contact was online and very quickly thereafter, I received a phone call from the gentleman with the locksmith, who indicated that he had been contacted about doing the work for me. We agreed upon a time that he would come to the house. We agreed that if there was a problem, he would call me or I would call him. I was here at the house at the time that he indicated that he was coming.
The gentleman called me and said that he was tied up in another job and would be coming a little later than usual, which I appreciated because I was sitting here at a house at that time that had no furniture in it. He came and was extremely cordial. He changed all the locks appropriately and had the equipment in his truck. He changed the key system. Whatever work needed to be done, he did it in his truck. He came back, executed the work, and tested the keys with me. I would recommend him to friends. I have held on to his contact information in the event that I needed anything else. In the event that whatever claim I had would need to go through American Home Shield, I would probably ask for him again. I intend to renew with this home warranty.

I sent in a claim for the refrigerator. At first, American Home Shield was sending out Sears repairmen. The refrigerator was making a really horrible noise, but they were never here to hear it, so they just quit showing up. They turned in paperwork that said they had shown up and everything was fine, but they had never shown up. So, I got very, very irate at that.
The issue started back in October. I would call Sears to find out why they didn't show up and they said, “Well, you have to submit another claim or turn it in again.” So, then I would have to call American Home Shield and turn in another claim and then wait for Sears to call me back to schedule an appointment. It just took forever, and that happened multiple, multiple times. But everybody's been very nice at American Home Shield. Finally, American Home Shield sent a different business out. The tech had actually been here looking at my microwave and heard the noise, so he knew what it was. The issue was a condenser. When he turned it in, they ended up total replacement.

I've had plenty of home warranties and American Home Shield is the top two. This is probably easier than the other one and the best home warranty I've used. There's no wait to get assigned a company. They assign me a rep or a company right away to get stuff done. That's not been the experience with a couple of other home warranties. I don't mind paying my deductible because I know the home warranty is gonna get somebody out there that's going to do the work. American Home Shield is a good investment because they stand behind making sure the warranty stands for itself. I would recommend this warranty if you don't want a lot of money to come out of pocket to fix something.

When the oven door was broken, the tech came, looked at it, decided what the problem was, and ordered the part. I just had to wait for the part to come in. The part came in within a couple weeks and then the tech came back and it was a 10-minute job. But the quality of American Home Shield's service is slipping. My father's home had an air conditioner to go out. It was when it was 95 degrees outside. American Home Shield sent somebody out, ordered the parts, and never came back. American Home Shield wouldn't answer the questions. The place that the parts were ordered would not answer the phone. We ended up having to buy an AC system that cost us $8,900. American Home Shield said that they would help us with that. But then they said they wouldn't, and then they sent a check for $600.
The people were extremely nasty that I was talking with on my dad and my sister's behalf. I own a third of my father's house. I could hardly understand the person that I talked to. There was a rooster crowing in the background, which made it very difficult to communicate at all. So I asked to speak with a supervisor. But I was told they don't have supervisors. It was a very disturbing incident and this went over the course of about five months.

They did what they were supposed to do, but not until we tried opening and closing, it pulled out the unit in and out. It was also an issue to call the company, and then they told me that it wasn't their responsibility. I had to call the actual company itself and I was going back and forth for over two weeks. I had a problem with our water heater. I had to have a guy come out like four times, but eventually, he fixed it. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I went to the website and clicked on plumbing and water heater. One difficulty is that it doesn't give you much opportunity to describe the nature of the problem with the water heater. It just says, "Problem with water heater." I did that. I submitted as many as four issues to finally get it fixed.
A lot of water was leaking out of the water heater onto the floor. So, the first guy who came replaced what's called an overflow valve. The water heater is like a big pressure cooker, and if the pressure is too much on the inside, they have a valve that allows the pressure to come off. So, he replaced that particular valve. Then there was a problem because the water wasn't adequately circulating in the house, and it took two times to try to figure this out. The last guy who came finally solved the problem. He did a very good job on that. The last time he came, we fixed the problem in terms of the recirculation pump.
We did have an order in to replace the recirculation pump, but it seems that by fixing that valve, we may have solved the problem with the recirculation pump. So, we canceled the last order, which was an order to replace the pump itself. So, that saved the company a little bit of money, and it's working fine at present. Hopefully, it'll last. AHS is dealing with a company called Plumbers, Incorporated. It appears to me to be a national website, and they gather together plumbers in different parts of the country. Plumbing is a type of thing that is very personal. When you have somebody coming out to fix your toilet or water heater, you want to know who the guy is and you want to know that he's local.
When we first started last year dealing with Plumbers, Incorporated, it was very difficult. They sent a guy in from Orange County which is north of us because they didn't have adequate coverage in our area, which is the San Diego area. He was a very nice man, but he was kind of out of his normal geographic territory. The last guy who came appears to be in our territory. By virtue of dealing with Plumbers, Incorporated, AHS is dealing with a gargantuan website that doesn't allow for kind of personal attention or local plumbers. The plumbers were great and very nice men,but I really think that plumbing is a local thing. My impression is that AHS is going with these national websites and they're not necessarily finding local, personalized service.
Even when you call AHS, you don't talk to anybody, and it's very difficult to contact a service representative. It's all sort of done by this big, national website. And the website does not allow you to really express anything in a detailed fashion. For example, if there's a problem with your water heater, you put down, "Water heater." If you don't get it fixed the first time, you have to put in another order for another 100 bucks. We called them for the the water heater stuff four times. We had four tickets. So, I paid $100 four times. I really think that it should have been handled, at most, two times for what we had done. In any case, it's been fixed and working well now.

Once HelloTech could not solve the issue, I just went through American Home Shield and the guy came out and just fixed my AC unit. The recent claim I submitted, I had a problem with the timing that the contractor was providing to make the fix. I had to call in and talk to a representative about it and to have it rescheduled with some other technicians, which was done. I got a technician who could work in a better time schedule, which worked out for me. AHS was helpful. The only thing was I had to get in touch with the rep to get a different technician because I could not do that online and if I had a choice, I would have.
We had a bad experience with the technician because they scheduled it for the whole day and they didn't show up. All of us had to take a day off. My tenant said she can stay over for the next appointment and we were able to get the weekend schedule that we wanted. The technician kept his time then and finished the issue on time. The only thing I didn't like with the whole process was the technician AHS picks always seems to be Sears and they haven't kept their word. This year, I had two requests and they never showed up and had to reschedule both times. I had to go with someone else. Also, Sears is most appropriate for general issues but they seem to not have a smaller window. They give the whole day.

The first claim I put in, they put forth a company and as is their custom, they said I'd hear from the contractor in the next 24 hours to set up an appointment. I waited a day and a half and heard nothing. I called the company and they couldn't find the assignment. Then, they said they could come out maybe next Thursday. This was a full week away and a half. I really didn't like that response. Then, I looked them up online and they had horrible reviews.
I called back American Home Shield and I said I wanted it canceled and I wanted another company assigned. The rep said they'd do that and told me to wait a couple of days. But it took two or three phone calls for me to actually get that done. The second time I called her, the first company was still assigned and it was still active. The third time I called in, I got a different rep and I explained what was going on. He canceled it and right then was able to assign another company. From then on, it went as it was supposed to go. I was angry that it took close to a week and a half with the first rep and nothing was done. I was really frustrated with that process. But the second rep took care of things. There are a couple of things that happened that I'm really dissatisfied with. The first thing is when I had my air conditioning and my furnace replaced. I have another service who comes out each season to check if the air conditioner is okay and what have you and others for the furnace. When they came out for the furnace, they had to shut it down because there was a crack in it. I immediately called AHS but they couldn't get anybody out here. My mother was here at that time so I needed somebody to come out because it was cold. I asked someone else if they could get one in and they did. I called back AHS and told them. It cost me $6000 and they were supposed to pay for that but they didn't because they said I canceled them from coming out.
I also had a problem with the sink in the kitchen. Something needed to be replaced and the part itself only cost $30 but AHS didn’t replace that. They said they don't pay for that part. It was 350 to have that done and they didn't pay for that at all. Another problem was during the pandemic. My washer went up and I called AHS. The contractor came out in a couple of days and the tech said my unit is old and AHS was not gonna fix it so the best thing to do was to have it replaced. He submitted his claim and he said I was gonna hear from AHS.
I waited and I called after a week. It was hard to get through that department. Then, I got through to them and at first, they said they sent me an invoice. That was a lie. They couldn't even find it. There was no copy of it in the emails or anything. I said I didn't get anything like that and they said I can go get a replacement and they would give me the money. But that's the whole thing about having a service where people come out -- if it needed to be replaced, they get it. But I had to go and pick it out and have it put in. Then, they sent me a check for $800. All of that took at least a month.
There was another situation with the door for the microwave. The door went up. The contractor came out and looked at that. The tech said they would submit it and they said it might take a while because that brand wasn't being made anymore. It did take a while. But AHS said that the people didn't send them what was going on so they hadn't approved anything for any work to be done. But the contractor sent me a copy of what they had sent AHS. It took about two months to get the door replaced on the microwave.
The other thing was when I had my hot water tank go up. It cost me a total of $2,000 out of pocket to have it replaced. AHS paid for the actual equipment and the hot water tank itself, which were like $400. It wasn't much. They didn't pay for any kind of installations where the contractor did additional things to the systems and updates. Also, I noticed that they never get anybody out on the same day but the person that comes on TV say "right away". It's not true. But the technicians are fine.

The drain in my shower was no good and it was leaking all over the ceiling. Noah's Plumbing came in and fixed that. They've also done some other plumbing work. I had a boiler in the basement that part of it went out, and they replaced that. They've been nothing but wonderful to us every time they come, and I will keep American Home Shield forever and always. I always recommend them to people, too. I like it because they're prompt. They make sure they get the workers out here and things are taken care of on a timely manner. I've had no problems with all of the contractors, except for one set.
That one set was bringing my dishwasher in. It was a slushy, nasty day, and they didn't even put anything on their feet. They put snow and slush all over my kitchen floor. They took everything out from underneath my sink and turned the water off, and when I went down, they said, "You need to turn the power off." I'm disabled, but I still made it down in the basement to try and figure out which one goes to the dishwasher. They then turned around and told me, "Well, I'm sorry, we don't have time for this. We have other customers. When you figure it out, call us back." They weren't even here five minutes. They took my dishwasher and left everything out. They also left the water off and the slush all over the floor. They were really rude.

The service with American Home Shield has been going good. Recently, I used it for my furnace issue. The heating was not happening on my main level. I had to wait for three days but otherwise, it was all very smooth and in three days, the furnace was back up and running. Also, the technician was great. He answered all the questions and explained everything very well. The main benefit of American Home Shield to me is that I don't have to run around going to multiple places. It helps out when somebody's doing that for you, which is what happens when they send my claims to a vendor. I have to make one call, put in the service request, and then I'm done.

My husband and I have been longstanding customers of American Home Shield for many years. The dryer situation has been ongoing since July of 2021. It might be a little bit longer than that. We originally had Express Appliance. They came out to my house seven times at least, different technicians. If you look at the invoice, almost every part of the dryer has been repaired and replaced. I started calling Express Appliance on my own and my phone calls were not answered. Then, I would call American Home Shield to have them call a couple of times and they weren't getting an answer. This last time they said that they had closed out the ticket, that it was supposedly satisfied, and that they tried to call me but I didn't answer the phone. That was not the truth. We've also had our circuit breaker repaired. Parts have been replaced because they tried to say that originally it was that.
I'm very upset about what's going on. I called last week and I did a video call with them. I gave them the model number and they heard some of the noises. They said they're gonna have to send out a technician. They called me at 7 o'clock in the morning to schedule the technician. Universal Repair came out last Thursday and looked at the dryer. He turned to some settings and he said the settings were off on the control board. He took some of the dryer apart and got the model number and everything. Then, he said the motor has been messed with too. He said he would talk to his company and he needed to call American Home Shield. The issue is that Express Appliance was the last technician to really work on the dryer, ordered all the parts, and put all the parts in and he needed to see what was going on with that.
I gave them 48 hours. I called them and I heard that my claim has been denied. I've escalated the phone call at least three times because I don't feel like I really trust Express Appliance to come back. I don't feel comfortable and confident with that. This has been going on for over a year. I told my husband I'm really ready to just go on ahead and seek an attorney. It's not fair that they charge somebody every month and they don't hold up their end of the deal. I've been very patient with them to try to fix my dryer. If they can't fix it, replace it. Why do they keep sending the same person who's not competent?

Everything usually goes spot-on with AHS. My first claim was for the dishwasher and it went fairly well. They went through the proper procedures of trying to figure it out and see if there's any way to fix the dishwasher before requesting for a new one. Upon them going through every possible way of trying to fix it, they ordered a new dishwasher for me. Most recently, I had a plumbing issue where the toilet was malfunctioning. A gentleman from A&B Plumbing came out and he was quite a professional. He was able to fix the issue within 10 minutes.

Submitting a claim is all right. Half the time I get people that are hard to understand but other than that, it's fine. It's the action that happens after the claim is submitted. I had a microwave went down and I just got it replaced. It took them over a week. I don't think AHS tries to help too quick. I've had other issues that took over a week, like with the water heater. I raise my grandkids and we need showers. It's a little frustrating. AHS needs a little more urgency. Especially if it's something important to a family.
Then, I had a guy come in and check out my dishwasher. I got a leak and I don't think he tore out the dishwasher to find it because it's still leaking. Now, I got a claim going through the insurance company and they're bringing in specialists try to find the leak. I'm afraid it's something simple that somebody didn't take care of. Also, a year ago, I had a blower fan, which goes down to the basement, that they replaced and they denied fixing it again after the fan went out in less than a year.

The guy who came out for my recent claim with AHS was really good. He had been here one other time. They thought about putting up a fight because there had just been a very short freeze. I would recommend AHS. We've been with American Home Shield for a long time. We had our old home that we had with them. Then we bought this new house, and we added it. We really haven't been disappointed. It gives us the assurance that if we have some issues, they will get resolved. One time we had a dishwasher that had to be replaced and they were more than fair as far as getting it replaced and what we had to pay out of pocket.
When the tech came out for my recent claim for my heating and air, he seemed to be very thorough and had me go through the process and had me show him what was happening. When I said, "It seems like it just runs all the time to the point I just have to cut it off and get it started." He had me adjust the temperature. Most recently, I did a claim for my air conditioner with AHS. It is not working. It's still not working. They assigned me a company that I previously used, a month ago for something different in regard to my air conditioner. Somebody from the company came out and played around outside with the unit for 30 minutes and then came back to tell me that it did not work, and that somebody else would call me to tell me why it didn't work. He couldn't tell me. He left. I got a call from that company. He told me what was wrong, but not really, and told me that somebody else needed to come to my house at 6 o’clock that night in order to explain more to me. I said, “No.”
By this time, I have gotten an email from my American Home Shield account. It was telling me the part that I need and how much everything costs. I had placed the cost on American Home Shield ‘cause I was curious as to what my warranty would cover and what's not and why I still needed to pay this company $2,500. They told me that the actual part was a condenser. The condenser was covered. However, because my unit is fairly old, there were some modifications that they were gonna have to buy some extra parts that they would have to put on it in order to make that condenser work. I said, “Okay.” But it didn't make sense to me.
They still had to send this man out here for me to pay it. He came over. I paid for it. He told me somebody from their company would be here between 8:00 and 10:00 the next day. 8:00 and 10:00 came, nobody was here. 11:00 came, nobody was here. Around 4:30, somebody finally showed up. It was two men, neither of which spoke English very well. I don't speak Spanish very well, so we weren't able to communicate. They went outside to put this part on. They were out there playing around for an hour. They came back in. They checked my thermostat, went back outside, went up into my attic, went back outside, and a whole bunch of back and forth. Then the guy came and he tried to tell me the best way he could that it was still not working.
I asked, “Why is it still not working?” He couldn't really explain it to me. But he told me somebody else was gonna call me from the company. Nobody called me, so I had to call them. They told me that they still needed some other stuff. I said, “I'm not paying y’all anything else because you came out here and diagnosed it and that was y’all’s fault. That’s not on me.” They said, “Oh, no, ma'am. You don't have to pay anything else. As I told you, you’re gonna get somebody to check on the extra parts and then contact you to see when it's a good time for us to come up.” That was on Wednesday.
On Thursday and Friday, nobody called me. But somebody from the company called me to get me to do a survey on how good my service was. I said, “I'm not gonna survey anything ‘cause my service has sucked thus far. I haven't gotten anything. My air conditioner still doesn't work.” He said, “Oh, hold on a second.” He came back. He said, “Okay. Thank you.” And hung up.
Then he called me back. He said, “We can come today,” which was Friday. I said, “What time?” He said between 12:00 and 4:00. I said, “It's 12:30 right now. Are you really coming? Because I've been told that y'all will come between 8:00 and 10:00. Y'all didn't show up until 4:30.” He said, “Oh, yes, ma'am. We can get somebody to come up.” I said, “All right. I'll be here.” Then he hung up. He called me back. “Ma'am, I'm sorry. Somebody's gonna have to come on Tuesday to talk to you.” I said, “Don't send anybody else to my house. I'm not paying y'all anything else. There's no reason for you to send anybody to my house unless y'all are coming to fix my stuff." I have not heard anything else from these people since and my air conditioning still doesn't work.
American Home Shield has not reached out to me at all. I'm pissed with them because when something is taken care of and the company that’s contracted out closes off the ticket, American Home Shield typically sends me an email, “How did they do?” I have not gotten an email saying that. I'm assuming that the ticket is still open. I have gotten nothing and I have paid my money. That does not feel right to me.
Also, when I got that email telling me how much money I owed, I contacted American Home Shield first to see what my coverage was. It would be a lot more helpful if the people that answered the phone had a little bit more knowledge to tell me exactly what we were talking about. She was able to tell me that the condenser was covered, but she wasn't able to tell me why it was still saying that I was paying $1,500 for a condenser cause that was how it looked on my screen and she had no clue.

I also don't like the extra charges, because when you sign up, you think that you don't have to pay anything but that fee, then you wind up having to pay the company that comes out. I had to pay All Points 300 and something dollars supposedly for stuff that American Home Shield didn't cover. It was the same thing with when we got our air conditioner. I had a claim regarding the garage door, and at first, it didn't go so well because the lady at Home Shield thought that Precision who was suggested to do the job would do electrical stuff too. With one claim, if it's the same type of job skills requested, you can ask for three different requests, and I did that. However, Precision doesn't do electrical. There was a lot of confusion, and it was not only on the side of Home Shield, but also on the side of Precision. Each time I called or was called, it was different. I could hear they were good office job people, but they didn't have a clue about garage doors.
Precision said they didn't want to do the job, which was fine because then I got a different company, a local one, Hamon, and that guy was great. I called, the phone rang twice, and someone was already on the phone. There was no answering machine. I explained the problem, and the guy knew exactly what was going on and what he had to tell the insurance company. The same day, it got approved, and two days later, everything was fixed. It couldn't have been better. It was so perfect.
I always recommend people to get Home Shield. My husband passed away 16 years ago and I'm not so good technically, and for me, the home warranty has been a great help throughout the years. I don't need to worry when something breaks and it's going to bring me in a financial disaster. I pay my $75 and it's taken care of. The only thing I didn't like was that I kept receiving calls from them because my card was expiring. They were having issues charging my card and I was wondering who kept blowing up my phone. I gave them a payment, but I almost canceled them for that because it was like bill collecting and I didn't like that. Other than that, they do good service.

I had a pool heater issue. They had fixed it a couple of years ago and it was a similar issue. This time, they sent us a different service company and the tech said that it's not fixable. I called American Home Shield and requested the original service company that fixed it before. They told me they would not charge me the $100 service fee for the second visit if that company was able to fix it. But if the second company agreed with the first company, I would pay an additional service call fee. The second company, Aaron Pools, fixed it.

I had an issue with an ice maker. The first vendor didn't perform well. So, they sent another guy out. CD Appliances responded the next day with very little delay. The girl who calls from the office was cheerful and pleasant. She told us when the techs would be there. The techs were on time. They took the serial number and sent for the part. But that part had been modified and some wires had a connection at the end that would connect to the piece that was in there. When the tech went to attach the replacement, that wouldn't work 'cause they wouldn't connect. So he ordered a new one. When the new one came, the dimensions were slightly different. But the tech was persistent and he was able to modify the new part to fit into the old machine. He went above and beyond. You couldn't ask for better service from a vendor. AHS is professional and the people know what they're talking about.

We have six properties with American Home Shield. They used a company that we didn't have a good experience with. Other than that, the technicians are friendly and communicative. We usually get a call from them to schedule a time when they'll come in. Then we get a message from them 30 minutes before they come in. We usually get some feedback after they visit. Recently, Astro Appliance went in for a microwave at one of our rental properties. They didn't repair it. They said it needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, they said it wasn't a normal wear and tear, so we had to pay for it out of our own pocket. It didn't make sense because the microwave was being used on a regular basis, so it was normal wear and tear. They didn't find any damage.

The customer service representatives at American Home Shield are awesome. They research. They'll do whatever I need. However, there's an issue that has been going on since November. American Home Shield had one technician come out earlier last year. He didn't do anything but he had put in that there was nothing wrong with my stove. The oven and the burner were not heating evenly. I put another claim in in November. He came out and said, "I'll just calibrate it and it's fine." I said, "But it's not fine. The oven isn't heating evenly." The technician was said, "Do what my mom used to do when I was growing up. Rotate your food in the oven." I said, "If I never had to rotate it all the years that I've had the stove, why should I have to start rotating it now?"
He told American Home Shield there was nothing wrong with my stove when in fact there was. I asked for another technician to come out. Because I went out of town and got sick, that was outside of my 30 days. I had to pay another $75 in December for a technician to come out. I didn't want that same company that came out twice.
That technician came out and said there was something wrong with my stove and I needed five to seven parts replaced on it. My stove is more than 30 years old. Thankfully, granted I had to pay another $75 which I shouldn't have had to, another technician came out and realized that there was in fact something wrong with my stove. American Home Shield said that they would replace it. I either could order one from their list or go get my own. I chose to go get my own. They said that I needed to pay for it out of pocket then send in a receipt. They'd reimburse me, but it'd take 20 days for me to get my money back. I don't know why it takes that long because it doesn't take that long for them to get my monthly fee or for me to pay them the $75.

Sometimes American Home Shield is a pain to work with. Sometimes they don't cover what I want them to cover. Plus, they have issues with who their techs are. AHS can have better coverage and more consistency and quality control with their techs. The last one who helped me was working on a dryer. They were coming from Sears. He took payment over the phone and then Sears started sending me bill every couple of weeks even though I already paid him.
I tried calling the Sears number and they don't answer the phone. They have some loop that you get into. I ended up writing them letters because they were threatening to turn me over to collections. AHS should have a mechanism for managing those kinds of issues. Other than that, it's nice to know who to call if I have a problem and most of the time, they can handle whatever it is.

For us, having American Home Shield is beneficial because we're older and it's handy to put $75 out. For example, them coming out to do electrical, 75 bucks is cheap. I've done door locks, and it cost me 75 bucks. So, it was easy and convenient for somebody who is older. A & M Plumbing came out recently. I had a leak at my front shutoff. This is one thing I was disappointed in. I called the home warranty, and I explained to them that it was the shutoff to the house, and they said, "Well, they think it's covered, but they knew it wasn't." So, I paid $75 for them to come out and tell me that it wasn't. I just got my own plumber, but that pissed me off.
Also, I had to replace my AC units. I have a heat pump upstairs and downstairs, and they replaced it with a standard air conditioner. So, when I got my first power bill when it got cold and I had to use the heat, and they told me I had to use emergency heat because of the way the system was, I was like, "No, I have a heat pump." The company that installed for them did end up replacing it, but it's kind of not good that they didn't replace with the original system, which was probably cheaper to do the other way versus the heat pump. So that was kinda crappy, but they did fix the problem.
Deborah,

Appliance Pros was absolutely great. They came out to connect the refrigerator because it was leaking and the ice and water was not working. They found a broken hose. They were able to fix that. Then they were also able to determine that there were parts that were frozen inside. They did those parts up and then ice and water started working. It took a couple of times for them to do the repairs. The first time they came out, they didn't have the right hose for the Viking. They came back out and put the hose on and the ice started working and then it stopped working. So, then they came back one more time because they had to bring the big heater out to defrost because it was inside the door panel and they needed to get a bigger heater.
The technicians were fabulous and very professional and patient. I asked a million questions. They communicated. I got a call to let me know what time they were gonna be here. Then I got a call 20 minutes before they were gonna arrive. I can't say enough about the technicians. As far as American Home Shield, when I've had to use it, it was pretty great. Thy have a simple process. I’d recommend it to anybody. The one comment I would say on the website that might be an improvement is there is really no place to put a comment or ask more questions. There was a part of the claim where they fixed the hose but the floor underneath the refrigerator, because of the leakage, is really damaged and there wasn't a way to go on the website and report that or get a follow-up for that.

The contractor worked on our furnace and they were really good. It was a great service. American Home Shield was pretty prompt in authorizing the work. We also have American Home Shield on another property. We can get good service providers pretty timely. The text and email replies on service calls, someone being authorized and getting approval on a repair are really pretty timely. When we had the furnace heating repair, the contractor had to send it back to get it authorized. It was even authorized on a weekend, which was good. I was kind of surprised.
One challenge that I had with American Home Shield was it was real difficult getting a certain provider that I wanted to do the repair that has done the repair before. The provider had to be conferenced in on the call with me because American Home Shield kept saying, "Oh, they're not available. They can't do it in your area." There was some problem with the way they were looking at that provider. With the provider, I knew the people in the office and they said, "We can do your work. I don't know why American Home Shield is not passing it on to us." But we finally got it resolved. We've done multiple claims with American Home Shield, and one of them was a pretty stressful one with the heating system in a cold environment. So I appreciate American Home Shield. The only other thing is that the rate had gone up quite a bit, but it's still beneficial.

We're very happy with American Home Shield. So far, so good. The people that they've been sending out have been really good. Sometimes, you talk to the automated system and we didn’t like that. We'd rather talk to a human so we can make sure that we're doing everything that we're supposed to do or that they find out everything that they need in order to help us with whatever situation that we have. Other than that, we like that we don't have to go looking for someone to fix something in our house or take care of something in our house. We contact them, and then they pick a person or a company. They contact us and tell us that they're gonna come out and do the work. On our roofing, we called them and we had somebody out this morning to put shingles on the roof that had blown off and that was causing a leak.

Working with customer service has been very good. The only thing was this last time when I was setting up a claim on the automated system, I wasn't really sure what the issue is. I had a thermostat and it's display was going out and it never seems to be able to keep up with what I set it with. AHS wants to narrow it down on the automated system. But I don't want the technician to just look at one thing instead of looking at the system as a whole.
AHS covers a lot of things. Also, when you call them and talk to an actual person. They listen. Instead of just saying, "All right. We're gonna send a technician out for your refrigerator.", they talked with me, the homeowner who has the refrigerator physically in front of him. AHS is more personal with their clients and they talk with them and see what they have experienced along with the technicians.

I've been using American Home Shield on and off for years. They usually stand by their warranty. This last couple of times, I've almost had to fight, but they usually stand by either fixing or replacing items. It's just been difficult with the mini-split I had. I have a mini-split in a certain area of my house. It went off the summer, and they replaced it. It took a while because they couldn't find parts. I was like, "I'm over 60. I need air." So then, they replaced it. They couldn't find the parts. They said, "Can we buy out?" I was like, "No, I need it fixed. That's the reason I have a warranty." It went out again a few weeks ago. The guy came out and said, "You need a new remote. You need a new panel board." American Home Shield declined it because they said I had a warranty. J & J Mechanical called the warranty place, but American Home Shield was supposed to call them. It was a long ordeal.
On Friday, the guy came from J & J Mechanical. I didn't even know he was coming until I looked at my email. Usually, they'll call me, but it was fine because I knew that the weather was about to get really cold. He came by and I said, "Oh, you're here to fix it or replace it." He said, "No. American Home Shield is looking for another diagnosis." He fixed it. I'm still concerned if it's really fixed, but so far, it's on now. I hope and pray it stays intact.
I had American Home Shield in DeSoto, Texas when I was married and they came out the same night and fixed the water heater the same day I called in. Now, it takes forever, the price has gone up, and I'm really not as happy as I was. I'm just okay with it. When I call in to people who don't speak good English with their outsourcing, they never understand. I'm like, "No, it's not a water heater pump." You have to break it down and I'm not happy that way. The price is not really that affordable, but I'm afraid to be without it. When I have changed, I always come back because other people don't do as well. It's just I want the old American Home Shield back where you got 100% customer satisfaction.

I’ve been protected by you guys AHS for two months now and the price is good. The only issue I've had has been with contractors. HelloTech is a subcontractor that comes to install tech stuff and if we can get a better price on that, that'd be cool. Also, I wish AHS could give the customer the opportunity to shop for their own contractor or let the customer pay for it and they reimburse it with the proper paperwork.
My most recent claim was when my washer stopped pumping out water so I submitted a claim through the app. I entered the information and then we did a video chat and I showed them the issue. It was informative for the guys from Hornet Appliance Services who came out. It helped save time instead of sending somebody out here just to look at the problems and they have to run back.
But I didn't care for Hornet. If I wasn't going through AHS, I wouldn't have used them. They put me on the back burner and they didn't let me know that I had a waiting period. I called AHS back to complain about them. Their lack of communication was my big deal. The total process took about five days and for me to be without my washer for five days was kind of annoying. But the technician was good and he was very knowledgeable. He kind of knew what the issue was as soon as I described the problem to him. He took my washer apart in a timely manner and put it back together the right way.

My stove had gone out right before thanksgiving. Once the technician came, he found what the problem was. He tried to fix it but he didn't have everything so he had to order the parts. It took two weeks for the parts to come in. He came back out and replaced the part. It's been working okay ever since.
The only time I wasn't too pleased with AHS was when I had electrical problems and I told them I was having problems out of my ceiling fan. Instead of fixing that, the tech tried to tell me that I could just go to Home Depot alone and I could have fixed it myself. But that wasn't what I called him out there for and that wasn't what I was paying for. After that, they ended up fixing something else while they was here.
Finally, I called Home Shield and told them what happened. They said, "Well, just go ahead and buy a new ceiling fan. And when you do, send us the receipt and we will reimburse you." But I wasn't too pleased with that either because that's not what I paid for. I would still have to call someone to replace the ceiling fan. Other than that, I've been satisfied with them. The guy who fixed my stove replaced a lot of things on my stove that was about to go out. He said that to keep from having to come again, he fixed everything. I was glad for that.

I cancelled the policy with American Home Shield as I wasn't satisfied. My microwave's handle broke. I threw it in the trash can. I did a claim and they told me that they can't fix it because in the small lettering that we don't really read, it says they don't fix anything if you don't have the parts. I was upset because they never disclosed that to me.
I talked to three people before I was able to cancel. I cancelled it in the beginning of the month and they told me that I still needed to pay the monthly fee because it was due. Plus, I wouldn't be able to get the other stuff for my refrigerator fixed if I didn't pay the fee. I said, "Well, I can go ahead and pay the fee. But will I get reimbursed because I'm cancelling right before the fee is due?" The rep said, "No, you don't get that back. And then you're gonna also be charged an administrative fee." They charged me an administrative fee of $42 and said that I needed to pay that or else it's going on my credit. I said, "Just take the money that you just took from me from the monthly payment that I was supposed to pay that I didn't even use." They then said, "Oh, no, ma'am. We can't do that."
When I was ready to cancel, they had two representatives beg me to stay. They said, they would offer me this and that. I said, "No. What is the purpose of me staying with you guys? I'm almost positive that if something else breaks around here, I'm not gonna keep the freaking part."

My last two situations with American Home Shield were pretty good, but I have had some bad experiences with them. I had a water heater that went out, and it took forever for somebody to come out to tell me what I already knew. After that, they told me it would take two more weeks to get a water heater in my house. Water heaters are something that you need right away in the wintertime. It was a horrible experience. What I ended up doing was buying my own water heater. Then, AHS refunded me a little portion of what it cost. It came out to be 1,800 and some dollars and they gave me 500 and some dollars. I almost got rid of American Home Shield after that because I was so pissed at them about that situation. They gave me so many excuses.
My most recent claim was something electrical, and Mae Dae took care of it. Mike was the tech and he was excellent, very knowledgeable and very professional. Hopefully, AHS is going to turnaround and they're getting better at what they do, the service that they provide or the individuals they choose to provide service for them.

I had a problem with the garbage disposal and this happened twice. The first time, I just fixed it myself but this time, I didn't think I could. The water was coming from the dishwasher straight through the garbage disposal, onto the cupboard underneath it which was holding it, and onto the ground. It was terrible. So, the tech came out and installed a new garbage disposal. It took him very little time to do so and I was amazed. He was in and out of there in less than a couple of hours and he was very good. He knew what he was doing.
I've also had the dishwasher replaced through AHS and my experience on that one was not satisfactory. They said they were going to replace the dishwasher but then, they said that I had to go to Lowe's. They also told me what kind of dishwasher they would be buying for me there and that if I wanted something different, I would have to pay for any additional cost over that model. So, we went in and bought a new dishwasher that my wife and I both liked and we paid the $100 extra for it. Then, the guy came to install it and he put it at the front of my driveway. He said there was a part that he needed for it and when I asked how long it was going to take to get the part, he said just a couple of days. He then left but he never came back. So, I went to my local hardware store, talked to the plumber guy, and he told me the thing we needed. I bought it then I got the dishwasher into the house and installed it myself.
Then, when my air conditioning had to be replaced, AHS wouldn't go to a heat pump. I would have paid extra for it, too. So now, I still have to pay for propane and my last month propane bill was over $690. But they replaced my old AC with a nice Carrier unit that really keeps the house cool in the summer. All in all, AHS has really helped me out quite a bit and I am satisfied with their service.

I've also called American Home Shield two different times. The first woman I spoke to was very rude and extremely dismissive. But the second guy was really nice. He called back but the technician had not followed up with Home shield so that the problem can be fixed. It's been three weeks now and I need someone from management to call me so that they can get another technician from another company out to come and look at my problem. At this point, I would like to switch to a whole other place that will warranty my merchandise because American Home Shield is not doing their due diligence with the third party technicians that are supposed to come out.
My name is Stacy & I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

A refrigerator just stopped working and it was because the compressor overheated. The techs got it cleaned up and they replaced something. Then I had issues with the icemaker and they replaced it. It wasn't one of the things I requested, but they fixed it right away. All the technicians that were sent by AHS were good. The latest one was really good and helpful. I like the online way to submit my claim online. Sometimes it takes a little longer to order parts on previous issues, but overall, it's good. I've been happy with American Home Shield. American Home Shield sent GM Appliance for my washing machine. This is not my first time calling AHS in reference to my washing machine. This started back in 2019. I had a lot of issues where I got caught in with the pandemic. Then, the people who came were from different companies, and they were telling me I need this part and that part. They would order it, come out and put it in. However, I was still having the same issue. Several times, I've called back and they will reschedule it, and the same company came back out. A lot of times, that same company would not show up and call me. Sometimes, they would call and say they couldn't make it. At least three parts has been replaced on that machine, and I'm not even sure if they needed to be replaced.
The latest company, GM, seemed to have gotten it right. The problem that I was having is when my washer would spin, it was so loud and sounded like a roller coaster. The tech told me it was the transmission and he ordered that part. I did not know a washing machine has a transmission. He ordered the part and when the part came in, they contacted me because the part didn't come to the house. They set the appointment up, and they came back out and put it in. That's been about three weeks now, and I haven't had any problems. It's still quiet.

Our recent claim with AHS was for my mother's electric stovetop and refrigerator. They couldn't fix the electric stovetop so they got that replaced. They sent us a check because my mother found one that she wanted here locally. They came out and installed it. The same thing happened to the refrigerator. We’re just waiting for a reimbursement check on that.
AHS has been good thus far. I couldn't complain about everything they've helped me with in the past. They have been a lifesaver. I'm a shift worker and one of my rental properties was having some plumbing issues and I couldn't get off of work being on shift 12 hours a day. I called them and they issued a contractor, and that particular contractor came out a few different times and they were able to come the same day. I didn't have any downtime where the tenants couldn't use the restroom just because the toilet had to be removed and get fixed for a wax seal ring. They've been a big help where I can just give them a quick call and they normally jump right on it as fast as they can.

There was one issue but it wasn't American Home Shield’s fault. Last summer, I had some issues with the blower motor on my air conditioner. It took the air conditioning company four visits to get it repaired and replaced.

When American Home Shield works, it's great. You call and they send somebody out to come check something out and it costs very little after the deductible. We've had GE Appliance for a few things. The latest time they came out was for our dryer. It took a ridiculous amount of time. We didn't have a dryer working for like six weeks. It's an old dryer and they decided they wanted to order the parts. So, they had to wait for the parts to come in and it was around thanksgiving, so they didn't have a lot of technicians. The tech that came was great. He knew what he was doing and he wasn't there very long.
We called AHS on our refrigerator freezer a couple of times. The first time someone came out, they replaced the icemaker and then it didn't change the problem. It would still freeze over and the icemaker would stop. The same guy came back out, did something again and said, "Okay, it should be fine," and told my husband about how to clean something at the bottom of it. Then it did it again and it stopped working. When we called back, they said, "Well, this is a separate incident, so you're gonna have to pay another deductible." They said it was fixed but I said, "Obviously, it wasn't fixed." I had to really fight about the fact that this wasn't a new issue that I specifically said that we'd like a different technician. The same technician came out and said, "You know, I don't fix something or there wasn't anything to do."
He left, and then it's still never been fixed. We just got tired of calling and we didn't want to spend more money. So, our icemaker hasn't worked, and we have some temperature issues now. When we had a shelf break, I was like, "I'm not even gonna bother." I have a dartboard in the box over my cheese drawer as a shelf. When we had an air conditioning problem, what AHS covered was great. There are a lot of little things that we are probably covered by American Home Shield and we are like, "We're gonna pay a deductible and is this even worth it? Is it necessary?" It kinda sucks because we pay a lot of money for it.

Everything is working great as of now and hopefully, it stays that way. All in all, everything was done quickly. I would always recommend a home warranty because you never know what's gonna go out. Sometimes you might be on a budget and you might not have work. Anything can happen. A lot of appliances take a lot of money to get fixed or replaced.

I was ready to cancel my service last year for an AC repair that took an extremely long time. I even purchased another warranty because of the issues with American Home Shield, their inability to order the part and resolve the issue quicker. But they eventually resolved it. I've had them for so long and that is one of the reasons why I still have them. While there are other services out here, what happens sometimes is that, if you start a new service, it's difficult to get the repair covered. Having a company like American Home Shield that you've contracted with for some time, they have the historical records of your issues. There's the benefit there.
American Home Shield has, for the most part, resolved most of my issues. But sometimes it's difficult in terms of timing or getting quality repair companies come out consistently. They also seem to have a lot of foreign customer service reps working for them. They could have more US-based, English-speaking representatives that are able to resolve issues quicker, not giving you the runaround especially something that's serious as air conditioning in the middle of the summer. They should make sure they have qualified representatives who can comprehensively and intelligently speak the issues of US customers.

I'm not very pleased with American Home Shield. We experienced an issue with our heating for much of the month of December and half of the month of January. They would send a technician out, they would do a repair, and the next day we would be without heat. This was at the point where it was cold in my area. We were in, sometimes, the 10s to 20 degrees, and I have children at home. There was no opportunity, beyond the long hold times, to get in contact with someone to get this escalated. There was no urgency around the fact that we had previous technicians that had come out. I've had one previous repair for an electrical issue. Again, it was a bit baffling on the sense of urgency around getting things assigned. They would tell me it was sent. I called who they assigned, but they never got it. There's lack of empathy with customer service who engages with you, especially given situations that are, in our case, repeat issues.

AHS uses American Home Plumbing as one of their contractors and for my recent claim, their tech came out and replaced the water heater. And it took me two weeks to get the instruction booklet for that. This man has also came out one time and replaced the kitchen faucet, but it was such a cheap fixture that it broke. I requested another plumber who came from San Jose and he put in a good faucet that's lasting.
Aside from that, when I had to replace the dryer that was 45 years old, the first person who came out was originally from Sears. In the end, the company that came out was different and the guy was not good. When I went to use the dryer the next day, it ran for about 20 seconds then clinked off. He didn't come with the tools necessary for the Maytag and he just said he fixed it, but he didn't fix it. So we went through the process again and finally, he called in and said the dryer wasn't working and wouldn't be able get fixed. In the end, I got a new dryer but the whole process went from October through December. It was very painful to be without a dryer that long.
Other than that, I always call AHS if I need a service and their reps have been good. They have on the whole been pretty prompt and they acknowledge that either the service has been requested or the service has been completed and how would you rate it. I would tell my friends to go ahead and give them a try. But I have an issue when I have a difficulty with an appliance and the people they send out are not really the cream of the crop.

American Home Shield has a list of people that come out and look, but the company doesn't seem to pass on the fee that I give to them queuing up a service. Also, I got a letter in the mail that said something about, "The service that you were asking to do is not covered within our services," but I can never reach a human. It's always digital phone sequencing or through the email. It's not very personal. Another thing is, each year, we have brand-new contract with a brand-new agreement code instead of carrying it over. My heater went out. I was paying people to come out and take a look at it and it was always folks who were, “Just push this button here and it’ll be fine.” And there were other people saying that, "I think it's the fan," but it's not the fan. And there are other people that come out and just say, “Oh, this part here needs to be replaced, so we’ll just sell you a whole new heater.” I always kept dealing with stuff like that. First, they replaced parts and I got a whole unit. It's working good. The experience is okay. There was just one issue.
The contractor found this out during a free winter thing where they come out and clean everything out, making sure the heater is in good, operational order for the winter. But they had this done during the summer or early fall. They came out and said, "Your heater needs this new blower fan on it. Because this is why you're having a problem with your heater. We finally figured out what's wrong with the heater. It's this fan." They put the fan on. And by the time it got cold out, the heater still wasn't working. So, I had to pay another $150 to have them come out again. AHS hasn't paid an additional 150 because it was over 30 days of the last service call. But I had no reason to run the heater within that 30-day period. So, that was disappointing. Other than that, submitting claims was easy.
I had an issue with a heater AC unit that's outside of the home, and I have the structure that goes over top of it and it looks like a giant dog house. They call it a shroud. When Chesapeake came to replace the heater, there was an issue and they said I need to pay somebody to come out there" because the dimensions of the new heater was not the dimensions of the old heater. That's a problem.
So, I called AHS and they said, "Okay, we're gonna call them up, call back up the heater company." The heater company called me back and said, "We'll be sending somebody out to put a new shroud over top of the ductwork on the outside of the house." They got it taken care of. It's nothing like what was originally there, but it was better. So, AHS is a good thing. They didn't say, "That's your problem." They said, "Let us give these other people a call."

I called American Home Shield and they said that they hadn't gotten anything from Meyers and Meyers said AHS doesn't take care of that. The owner gave me a paper and said that by me being with AHS, he would give me 15% off. But I didn't have that money. And I pay AHS every month and when a contractor comes out, I pay the $75. I haven't really been getting good service.
Also, I had a complaint. I kept calling about electricity and stuff like that because they were giving me the runaround. The tech finally came out and did it, but without apology. He kept saying I was delaying, but I was the one calling him. Every time I call him back, he'd say he had to give that to somebody else because I didn't answer the phone. But I'm doing the calling. Then, with my washer and dryer, I had to replace them myself. This man took my dryer outside, took it all apart, and didn't fix it. I'm waiting on AHS to get in touch with me. It would be a little better if we can get folks to come out faster, but I understand that that's a scheduling issue. All of the people that have come have been local, and they came in and did what they were supposed to do. So far, so good. The only bone of contention I may have is with their paperwork setup. We have been still experiencing people reaching out to us from our old address, and that was supposedly all handled during the closing. We recently subscribed to American Home Shield and one month later our heating system stopped working. Set up the appointment to have the system repaired and the technician they sent informed us that we would have to pay because the issue was "pre-existing". Earlier in the year the system was operational and now it's not...how is that pre-existing? Just like any good insurance company, they are happy to take your money but absolutely unwilling to actually pay when you need it most. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!

Royal Plumbing came out for an issue and solved it. Overall, American Home Shield's service has been okay. I had one instance where I had a technician come out and some of the things that he needed to do weren't covered by American Home Shield, so I had to reschedule with him. It's fine that it was not covered, but that could be a smoother process so that they don't have to go in and say, “Okay. Well, they can only come out and look now."

My furnace was going in and out. It would work, then just stop at times. I called it in, and the claims process through American Home Shield went okay. It was quick, and the problem that I called for was resolved. The technician was very informational about some stuff that I needed to have done, but I wasn't at that point able to call American Home Shield to have them come do anything else.
With American Home Shield, I don't have to come out of pocket with so much money to get things repaired and they cover a wide range of not just appliances, but even household things, like the furnace. Majority of the people that I've called to come out have been very good and came out except one. I had a plumber come out, but they never called back or came back. I was a little pissed off about that because I didn't want to have to call and pay another service fee for someone else to come out.

My furnace is over one side of my basement by itself, and I could see water leaking out of it and running down the drain. I called American Home Shield on the phone, and the process to get through was really easy. They then emailed me and told me the name of the company that was coming and that they will be contacting me and letting me know a time frame and a date. The tech who came was very professional, kind, friendly and helpful. He ordered a water pump for my furnace and said they'll call and let me know when they were gonna come back out again.
The tech came back the next day and fixed my furnace with the pump. However, there must have been something wrong with that because I still experienced the same problem with my furnace. I tried to call him back and he said he'll try to stop by, but he didn't. I tried to call the next day and he didn't stop by. I ended up calling American Home Shield. They sent a different person from the same company, and now, everything's fine. Overall, I will recommend American Home Shield. I've had to call them two times since '18, and both times, they helped me.

American Home Shield is awesome. There were few things in my house that broke and there was no hesitation on their part to replace it. My AC unit broke in the middle of summer, and they sent a company that took good care of everything. Those guys put a brand new unit outside. Even out of my pocket, it wasn't that much, because I had to pay taxes and some extra parts, but the rest was paid for by American Home Shield. That was great. Another one was my water heater. When that broke, American Home Shield sent a technician on a Saturday, then the guy came back on Monday and put a brand new one in.
When I started with American Home Shield 16 years ago, I was only paying $47 a month, but now, I'm paying more than double. However, I still have them, and they still do any job that I request anytime. Now, it's a bit harder because they are trying to get too many of the Spokane companies. Sometimes those guys are just a bunch of lazy people that don't wanna come over. They just keep putting out excuses and making their own times, and I cannot work with their schedule.
I also got a little disappointed a couple of times lately, but in the end, they fixed whatever I had that was broken. It took longer than before though. Before, I couldn't believe how fast it was. Now, I have to keep calling a bunch of times to technicians and to American Home Shield. Other than that, those guys give a tremendous service. They are a good company, and I recommend them all the time.

The guy from A-Zap will be out here today for my ceiling fans. He's been out here before. He just did some electrical work on some outlets. He was good. I liked the guy. The breaker box kept tripping. It's been taken care of. There was another guy that came by. He fixed my garage door opener. I had to pay for that because, apparently, the door isn't covered, but he fixed everything. I also put a claim in to AHS when I first moved here, but then I canceled it because the guy never showed up. Overall, I like the availability to get things done at a reasonable price through AHS. They got really good people, too. They do their job.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for our furnace. The pilot light didn't light. I called in on a Saturday and somebody came out on a Monday. He was really good. He knew what it was pretty much right away. Having AHS gives you peace of mind because things break in your house and you think about what the cost is. I can't see why people have houses and don't have warranties.

Mckinney Appliance came to put in a new double oven that was replaced through American Home Shield. It was a very easy process. It was fairly quickly. Mckinney was very professional. I also had a claim on a cooktop and out of all my experience, this is probably one of the worst experiences I've had with American Home Shield in the last six years. Other than that, it has been smooth sailing. The cooktop claim has been going on since before November, and I’m finally getting it replaced on the 1st, which is Wednesday.

The garage door opener is giving the same problem and AHS continues to fix it and get it going but it's just a piece of junk. It would have been better if they just canned it and got another one. This last time, I was a little bit unhappy. They said the issue is covered and they sent somebody out. When the tech got here, he said he could not fix it because the wiring wasn't covered under the contract. I told him AHS told me that it was and that the whole repair was covered. But he left. He couldn't do anything about it and I ended up getting a handyman.
Also, they charged $100 for sending somebody out, which I could see if the guy came from a long distance. But that guy lives in my neighborhood. I called up to tell them I wanted my $100 back because they didn't fix it and the person at the other end of the line said, "But it is covered.” I told them that's not what the tech said and as proof, he sent me an email saying that. We went round and round and I decided that I was not gonna argue with them. I told them to keep the $100 and I wanted to stop service immediately. They sent me to a retention number and I spoke with somebody. It wasn't till several calls that I got any kind of satisfaction. They finally agreed to return my $100.

We don't do anything online and sometimes, it takes a while to get through to AHS. If I get up early in the morning, I can usually get through to them. But I've been happy with the people they’ve sent out. Cheney Appliance people are all very nice. I've asked if AHS could send them out anytime I have a problem because they know what they're doing. The only thing is AHS fees go up all the time and we're retired and on a fixed income. If they keep raising it up, we may not be able to keep it.

I like the coverage that AHS offers with the different appliances and items. They've never denied anything and if something was broken, they replaced them. We've also gotten other people in our family to get AHS because they've been great all these years. Recently, I needed a service because the rinse agent of my washer wasn't draining. Then on our washing machine, the softener dispenser wasn't draining. The tech came out, then they had to order parts, which was very quick. They got them in within a few days. The tech was awesome. It was around December, right before the holidays, my furnace stopped working. American Home Shield had to send out two companies. One was horrible. The gentleman was rude, came out with nothing. I told AHS that. It was around the time when it was 12 degrees out. Union Express was the final one. He was outstanding. He came out twice. The first time, he took a few things apart. When he left, it was hot, but it wasn't at a full force. He ended up coming out the next day, did some work downstairs and took some things apart and cleaned some things. And ever since, it has been fine. American Home Shield itself has been great. Every time I've called, everyone has been helpful.

I like the promptness and courtesy. The people that take your call are always professional. And they try to get someone out ASAP. With my first plumbing experience, the first guy would put me off for two weeks. And when I called American Home Shield back, he immediately put me on hold, called someone and had somebody out here within a couple of hours. It was perfect. Usually, a small job will cost you an arm and a leg sometimes. Just to get someone out here to fix that faucet was just 125. That was at the bottom of my budget. So, that was perfect.
When my sink acted weird, it was nice to have somebody to come out here and fix it, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg or I didn't have to search for someone. The tech came in, introduced himself, got right to work, double-checked his work, called me to double-check his work, and he double-checked it again. I liked the way he worked. He was professional. He didn't do any side conversation. It was all about work and explaining to me what happened. He was, "I want you to look it over and then I'm gonna look it over again." He did a great job.

We had a leaking shower faucet. A plumbing company came out and looked at it. Apparently, some past plumber stripped to the screw that needed to be taken out. It would have been a simple repair if they could've unscrewed it. They said they were gonna come back and drill it out but I didn't hear anything. Two weeks later, I heard from American Home Shield that it was not covered and they wanted to charge $1,000 for us to do it. Even if it's out of coverage, the plumbing company didn't communicate that very well. They told me they were coming and called me to schedule it. I called them back over the course of a week. They either said they were coming and didn't show up or didn't return the calls and their voice mailbox was full. I was not too thrilled either with the plumbing company or the way they handled the warranty claim or the fact that AHS didn't cover it.
We had a recurring issue with our fridge over the course of six years. It's a very common issue with Samsung fridges. There's a design flaw with the ice maker. AHS sent people out 10 times. Eventually six months ago, they finally replaced it. It was more frustrating than it should have been that it took so long for them to realize that the issue was not going to be resolved with that fridge. We had months and months without a working ice maker.
We have had quite a few little things that have gotten dealt with. If a bunch of things pop up at once, it's nice to be able to pay the deductible and get it dealt with rather than having to pay out of pocket for several expensive things in a short period of time. We also quickly tried Choice Home Warranty and very quickly cancelled that. I was very unhappy with them and reinforced liking American Home Shield. Generally, their contractors are good, especially compared with Choice. It seems Choice was sending fly by night people. But AHS seems to tend to pick reputable companies that are larger ones in the area.

I've used American Home Shield several times and I've been very happy about their service. These recent two experiences are the best. It was for my washer and my refrigerator. The contractor contacted me quickly and scheduled time. They were on time. They told me that they'd order then wait another seven days and they'd come back and install it. 2 years ago, the Sears service was so bad. The technician just checked my refrigerator and didn't do anything and clean it. It was the worst I have ever experienced.
