    More things seem to be covered than with other warranty services. So, I appreciate that aspect of American Home Shield better than others. One of my air conditioning units was not functioning. So, I scheduled an appointment for AHS to send a contractor out and look at it. The guy showed up, checked it quickly, went outside, figured out the problem, put the parts in and was ready to go. He's a nice guy. Everything went very well.

    I was with Choice Home Warranty, and I just switched over to American Home Shield in February. I had a really good call with the customer service person that I talked to when I first called in. I was told some of the differences between AHS and CHW. I was impressed, and there are things I didn't really even know about. She said they cover everything completely after the $100 that you pay. At CHW, it was only up to a certain amount. So when I got my new air conditioning unit, I ended up having to pay $1,800 for it on top of whatever they paid for it. It was interesting because the $100 service fee with Choice Home Warranty, you pay that to the serviceperson. With AHS, they take the $100, and they take care of all of that, which I thought was interesting. The day before they came they had taken the $100. It was very convenient. The only thing I thought was weird was that they paid them before they did anything. That was concerning.

    AHS sent Colorado First recently. I had a toilet that wasn't draining properly. It was just a little bit disappointing because I'm used to Choice Home Warranty where usually within 24 to 48 hours, somebody's calling me setting an appointment and then they're usually out here within the next day or so. With AHS, they didn't call me. I had to call them. So, that made me mad. When they originally set up the claim, they told me who the claim was gonna go to and gave me a phone number and said they will be reaching out to you. I waited a whole day and nobody called me. I was like, "What's going on?" So, I ended up calling the phone number that they've given me for Colorado, and I set up the appointment. It was about four days from when I originally put in the claim to when it was fixed. Connor was the tech and he was fantastic. He got it fixed in about 30 minutes. It’s working great.

    I ordered an inspection on my furnace last Friday. The contractor came out and the tech said he wants to replace it because it's 27 years old. On Monday, they called me and said what did I wanna do. I told them I didn't know what my options were and they thought I would be getting a message or email from American Home Shield. I called American Home Shield this morning and they said they hadn't heard from the contractor. I haven't heard anything since then as to whether American Home Shield is going to repair it or replace it. I've never had this problem with them. Other than this, I would tell others they're a fine company and they would be a good investment.

    It was a Saturday when I had problems with my water heaters. One of the hot water hoses busted and I had to shut off the water off. The only problem I had was trying to get the contractor, Ferguson and Son's, out here because American Home Shield said it wasn't an emergency. AHS called them and they called me back and told me they were on the way. Everything got fixed and it worked out fine. AHS does what they promised they do and I'm very content with them.

    I had a few outlets that weren't getting any power and I tried to reset in the box, but it wasn't working. So, I issued a ticket to American Home Shield for someone to come out. I did it online. It was the easier way. Their website is straightforward for someone who knows a little bit of computer. As far as the turnaround time, they called me within 24 hours for an appointment. When the tech came, he asked me what the problem was because the AHS website doesn't let me put what the issue is. They just wanted very little bit of information. So, I explained to him what the issues were and he tested some outlets, and then he went to the box. We have a generator junction box and a regular junction box and, apparently, the switch was flipped in the generator one. That one was fixed within seconds.

    In my kitchen, the GFI keeps popping out at night without any usage. So, he thought it was better to just switch that out. It was really old. He replaced that one because I told him I really can't come up every morning and have everything off. Everything was done in about 40 minutes. I did have to put a claim in before, but I had to cancel it because it was taking AHS two weeks for someone to come out and fix my washer. I was like, "I'd rather buy a new one, unfortunately," because I needed to do my laundry. That one didn't go smoothly, but the electric was pretty good.

    I had a toilet that was continually running and causing me large water bills. Advanced Home Services came out and found that the stopper was kind of rippled. They changed it out and everything went fine. Joe was the tech who was sent out and we've had him sent out several times from this group. He's always great. He takes care of business and answers my questions if I have any. I asked him if the Clorox tablets that are made to go in the toilet should go in the toilet and he said that that was why I had the problem that I did. The tablets have chemicals in them that eat the rubber off of these stoppers, which nobody has ever told me. He's really professional and he's no nonsense, which I really like. But I wouldn't say that I've never had problems with technicians that are sent with American Home Shield. I had a contractor long ago that if they were assigned to my house again, I would call back and ask to have someone else assigned.

    Also, we recently had a problem with our oven and I was kind of concerned about trying to deal with getting it replaced or repaired. First, it looked like they were gonna try to fix it but the parts were so old that they finally decided to replace it. The only thing is that when the lady called to find a matching oven, she got the sales price and by the time we got there to get it all done, it cost me about 300 extra bucks. It was fine but it taught me that if this happened in the future, I would ask if it's a sales price or a regular price. And they wouldn't even talk to me about the oven until they had someone come out and make sure that the oven would fit the space. That's what caused the delay. Other than that, it was absolutely the easiest process. There was no griping.

    I've used AHS before and every time that something has come up and I put in a request, they're quick on getting somebody out here to diagnose exactly what's going on and do whatever their process is. The washing machine that I had an issue with took a week or longer because they didn't have the part and they had to order it. But I understand stuff like that.

    Recently, I had a claim for the garbage disposal. I went on their website to schedule a service and laid it out what was going on. The following day, I got a phone call from the contractor and they said they were gonna be in my area that afternoon. The tech came in, took a look at the unit, and said it was done. I figured that it was and what was so surprising to me is he had a fix right on his truck. He got the approval and he was able to put the new one in. It was outstanding.

    I was very pleased with American Home Shield. We had a pipe leak and it was a bad one. So, we had to shut the water off. I called in and put an online repair in. I got a call within a couple hours from the repair company. They said it would be three weeks before they could come and fix the repair. I said, "Oh, that isn't gonna work." So, the repair company suggested that I contact American Home Shield back and see if they can do anything. So, I called American Home Shield and explained the situation. The representative said, "Okay. Hold on. Let me see what I could do," and put me on hold and contacted the repair company and did some magic. He got the repair company to come out the very next day, and they fixed the leak. We were down for just a bit over 24 hours, which I thought was outstanding.

    Without American Home Shield, we still would have been several weeks if we had to go through a regular company. So, I could not have been more delighted and more pleased with everything. We had to turn off all the water. So, we had no toilets, no showers, no cooking, and no cleaning. Fortunately, it was only a day. We've been with American Home Shield since we bought the house in 2012, and I can't even imagine people without them. They've always been there whenever we had an appliance break down. They've been amazing. I'll stay with them forever. I have peace of mind knowing I have a small premium every month and everything is covered and there's no hassle. They take care of things.

    American Home Shield's service has been very good. They need a little coaching once in a while because their workers aren't all top-notch. We had a shower valve that they couldn't repair because I screwed it up before I called them. We finally got it fixed. I had to call another plumber. I had another shower valve that they fixed just recently. It went very smoothly. Overall, AHS helps you take care of the big stuff. The process is pretty good until you get to the point where they don't cover something. They call you back and tell you that you gotta call them up later and ask them why they haven't done it.

    I had a bad experience where AHS canceled my contract and wouldn't pay me a prorated refund. But, bigger picture, it spurred me to to do the math on whether it makes sense to pay AHS, at least in my case. Let me share:

    I paid $880 annual premium, including a carveout for hot tub stuff that wouldn't have otherwise been covered. Let's say I made 8 service calls for various things, one every month and a half. So, I paid $110 per call in premium fees.

    Every time you request service, you are immediately charged another $75. So, each call cost me about $110+$75=$185. If I make more calls during the year, the average cost goes down and vice versa.

    How does that compare to just paying yourself? I think it's pretty close or maybe a little more expensive to use AHS at 8 visits/year. But you get a lot more value if you DON'T use AHS. Why?

    - YOU get to pick the best service companies. With AHS, you are forced to work with their partners. No surprise, their partners are companies who can't get enough business on their own because they're often not very good.

    - YOU get to pick the best replacement parts that make economic sense for you. AHS will pick the cheapest parts and you have no say. If you want better parts you will have to pay for them.

    - You are never "not covered. It happened to me multiple times with AHS.

    So for the same price or less, I get better service companies and better parts. Check out some of the other review sites, it will really open your eyes about people's opinions of American Home Shield. Check out their stock price (FTDR) over the last 5 years...not pretty perhaps because there just isn't value there.

    When Sears called me for my dishwasher claim, I was able to let them know there was a spring in the door that broke. The tech called and let my wife know exactly when he was gonna be there. The tech brought one with him and fixed it. It was very timely and well done. For the first two years, it was hard to make a claim with AHS. But this time, the way that was set up on the internet, I was able to get in and take care of it really quickly.     My garbage disposal was leaking. I reached out to the technician and he immediately called me and we scheduled.     My AC wasn't working. I called American Home Shield, and the young lady got me set up with an appointment. She gave me the name of the contractor, the phone number, and she told me that somebody would call me within 24 hours. She was really nice and took care of me. She answered my questions. The tech came out that Saturday. He checked out the outside unit. He pulled the thing out and he showed me what it was. The tech was very professional and knowledgeable about what he was doing. He told me I had 30 days to call him back if it didn't work or if I had any problems with it. It's functioning very well now. If you don't wanna pay a whole lot of money when your stuff breaks down, you better get American Home Shield.

    Absolute Appliance Services has been out twice to fix our ice maker. They've replaced the ice maker, but I still don't have any ice and I don't understand. It's a brand-new ice maker, and they changed the water line the first time. We called them, and they can't get here till Thursday. Other than that, they're great. They've been responsive in letting us know when the ice maker came in, because they had to wait for the piece.

    With American Home Shield, I don't like the wait times, including the hold time when I try to call and sometimes the contractor takes a week to come back. However, I like that, so far, they take care of things. If it's not fixed, they'll just keep coming back until they fix it. We had a claim with our heater, and it was a super easy fix. The guy was nice too. He went up there and it was just a wire that was disconnected, so I was relieved. That also went really smooth.

    My microwave went out and it was three years old and out of warranty. We called AHS and they sent somebody out right away. But, the part that they had to order, it took them a while to get it, like four weeks. But when the tech got it, he came out here and put it in, which was last Friday. There was another issue wrong with it and he fixed that. The tech was professional. We're happy with the service.

    However, we have a standalone building that's right here beside our house where my husband built an artist studio. The air conditioner downstairs went out. It's a window unit and they replaced it several years ago. The one upstairs went out. When it did, they said, "No, it's not part of your home and we're not gonna replace it." Also, the reps are in a foreign country when I talk to them. It's hard to understand them.

    I like the convenience of AHS and it saves a lot of money, too. I use them for a seasonal upkeep of AC units. I used them once for a refrigerator and they replaced the refrigerator because of the age. The tech was very helpful on my recent claim for my washer.     AHS responds and assigns somebody quickly. Also, the people that had come out here got their work done. Recently, I had water coming out of the drain on the AC. It was clogged. The techs came and unplugged it. AHS also covered the water softener for a while for an additional fee and they replaced my water softener one time. But during one of the renewal periods, they said they weren't covering it anymore.

    I had a claim for my washer and dryer with AHS. The washer was only washing on one cycle. The door wasn't latching properly. It threw it into an error message. It's a front loader and when the load is imbalanced, you can't do anything but start it over, even if it's halfway through the cycle. The tech replaced the rollers and now the drum works fine and it's silent. I'm happy with the service. It was also really quick. The company called on Monday and they got the tech out here by Wednesday. He had all the parts that he needed on the truck too. One service call did it all.

    The service calls of AHS are higher than the previous company that I was with. But, they guarantee their service people and I was willing to pay that extra. Also, every time I've called AHS, I've gotten to talk to a real person and I like that. The only thing that has been difficult is, under my policy, there's a free AC tune-up, but mine hasn't been scheduled. It was scheduled a month and a half out and I was discouraged about that.

    We had an annual checkup for the air conditioning system before it gets hot. The techs checked over the system and found that one of the big capacitors that turned on the fan was low on voltage. Everything seems to be working fine now. The techs were super professional, really polite and well-mannered. It was also a lot faster than I anticipated. As soon as I input the thing, within five minutes, I had an appointment for the next day. I've never been that fast when I've called the companies directly myself. I was impressed with how fast it went.

    I had a claim last week with my refrigerator. Ice was forming inside the fridge, underneath the freezer. Whenever I call AHS, they always find someone and that's always a quick turnaround for me any time I have an issue. In two days, I had someone here. But the first person came and by the time he got here, he was rude. The ice was still underneath the bottom of the freezer when he left. I said, "I thought your job was to get the ice out." He said, "No, that's your job. You have to defrost the fridge yourself and get the ice out of it."

    I called back the company he came from and I complained to them. They said, "Call American Home Shield so they can redo the order." AHS sent someone else out. I said I didn't want that guy back in my house. I never had a problem like that before. The techs were always very good and respectful. I could always ask them questions. AHS is also doing a good job. The day the tech came, it would have cost me a lot of out-of-pocket. Where when I have American Home Shied, I know that part is covered.

    I had a company that did the install of our AC five years ago. It was recommended by American Home Shield. They said stuff needed to be fixed. The tech said, "Well, we need to do a whole deposit so we can order the parts." I said, "Well, let me call American Home Shield and let me say, 'Hey, you know, I just had these guys out." I called AHS and they said they don't work with that contractor anymore. So, I was rather irritated. It took about a week and they said they would send their own guy out which I had to pay for. The tech they sent did all the stuff and found that there was a bad part. He also found that the other company was lying about all the repairs that needed to be done. The tech had the part needed in his truck and got the issue taken care of.

    Every house that we've owned, we've had AHS as our home warranty insurance. We don't call often, but usually, when I call, it's to get something taken care of. This was not a pleasant experience for me. I was ready to go find another company because it's like the time I called before when they were like, "Oh, you don't have proof of maintenance, so we're not gonna cover the wear and tear replacement of your old AC unit." What's the point I have insurance if you're not gonna cover me. Also, they've outsourced their call center to India and it gets to the point where I asked for a supervisor and they were liked, "Well, we'll get to you in five days." If you can't get a call center supervisor on the phone, there's something broken.

    I had some outlets and switches not working properly. I had a wire that went out to my septic tank. The techs called American Home Shield and I got something saying that the claim was approved. But the next day, I got something saying that it wasn't approved and I had to pay $700. The techs were trying to put in some wire that was about 15 feet. That thing wasn't worth $700. I have a local guy who charged $150 to do it. Suppose it was somebody who doesn't know any better, they're gonna pay $800.

    American Home Shield tells me very clearly what's gonna happen and if we have to replace an item. The techs have been very good too. They're knowledgeable and professional. They tell me what the status of everything is as they're doing it, then Home Shield is in contact with me immediately after. A guy repaired my ice maker. I signed off on it when it was all done, then about a week later, Home Shield called me, "How did it do?"

    I read about how people are down on home warranties, but my experience has been very good. I figured that even if I'm not breaking even or I'm losing a bit of money, the real benefit here is that I can call the home warranty company and they send a guy out, and I don't have to worry about that anymore until it's done. I don't have to go to the store or get an installer. When our microwave quit working, the repair people told American Home Shield they couldn't repair it.     At first, I thought American Home Shield sucked because the vendor that they had come out couldn't fix my stove. They had to order parts and it took them a month to get back with me after they ordered the parts. When they finally came, it was right before Thanksgiving, and the parts they ordered didn't fix the stove. The guy had to call and let American Home Shield know that my stove was not fixable, but he did not do that. Instead, he called and closed the whole thing out and I had to fight to have them come and get my stove fixed. I finally got fed up and called to cancel the service. I said, "I'm paying you guys $50 a month and I only had one issue that I need it fixed and I'm not getting it. It's ridiculous. I need to cancel this. I'm not even worried about the money back, just cancel services."

    Surprisingly, the person I spoke to that day knew what she was doing because she put me in contact with the vendor. At first, they tried to say I had to pay another $100 for someone else to come out, but I said, "That's not fair when they didn't finish their job the first time. So, I'm not paying an extra $100 for something that I didn't receive service for." The person I spoke to finally put me in contact with a good vendor. This vendor was professional. He came out twice, because I lost power in my breaker box on the day that he came out. So, I couldn't check my stove. He came back and checked the stove for me and saw that it was unrepairable and finally got American Home Shield to close it out to replace my stove.

    My situation had been open since October, and I just got it resolved this week. I just had to cash in on the service for the first time. American Home Shield sent me an offer for a stove yesterday, but to be honest, I'm not really feeling it. I picked the stove that they gave me, but it's almost like they pigeonhole people. They offered me $484 if I cashed out to buy my own stove, but that does not purchase a good stove. I would still have to put money with it, which is ridiculous when I'm putting $50 in it per month. I shouldn't have to still pay for anything. I don't like that.

    The bathroom leaked all the way into the basement playroom of my grandchildren when the toilet was flushed, so we had an immediate problem. But I was able to have my son shut off the water to the toilet, so it wasn't an emergency. I scheduled a service online with AHS and the plumbing company called me on the next business day. The plumbing incident happened on a Saturday and they called me on Monday to set up the appointment. Then, the tech came out in a couple of days and he was very good.

    It turned out that I had a much bigger plumbing problem than what it appeared, so he fixed it, but it's going to be a temporary fix. I need the floor fixed underneath the toilet because it's not sitting flush apparently. The plumbing company offered me information about what the permanent fix would cost and they were really good. The guy even emailed me the details of what else it needs after this fix. He explained everything, took pictures of everything for me, and showed me where things had gotten wet in the basement.

    I have always found AHS very easy to use with scheduling things or questions about my coverage. In the past, I had some guys come out to fix my tub and they ended up having water come through my chandelier downstairs into the dining room. It was not pretty and I was not pleased with them. But AHS handled it beautifully, put it in my file never to send someone from that company again, and they never have. So, they were all over it as much as one could be.

    When the guys came out yesterday, it was the fourth trip that they've been out but it was for two separate repairs. One was for the washer, and the other one was for the the water heater and the leak in the pipes in the wall. Everything went smoothly and the technicians were very professional. They gave information on everything they had found and what they were going to do. They were able to repair the washer, then they had to replace the water heater and fix the leaky pipes up in the ceiling. I had to pay $225 out of pocket on the water heater and the leak, and I wrote a check the day the gentleman finished with the water heater. Having the AHS warranty saves me from the headache and it's a wonderful thing to have. When something goes wrong, you don't panic and you don't always have that extra couple thousand dollars to do whatever needs to be done.     American Home Shield (AHS) and affiliated contractors are perpetuating a fraudulent scheme designed to collect premiums and service charges with no faithful intent to payout upon on a claimed breakdown. Two different contractors sent to investigate the request both informed the Homeowner AHS would deny the claim as "Pre-Existing" before even looking at the item they were sent to diagnose. After the diagnosis, AHS representatives repeatedly "quoted" plan documents and intentionally left out certain words and details that did not support their conclusion. Even when supplied with documentation sent to the Homeowner from AHS that conflicted with the denial, the "customer service" representatives ignore the information.

    The International call center personnel are seemingly unable to do anything to resolve a client's issue, but they do apologize often. If you can understand them through their accent, one should quickly ascertain they are simply hired to repeat what their computer screen tells them to say, "I am sorry but unfortunately your request is denied because..." At best this is a referral service for local contractors willing to participate in the scheme with the hopes of selling additional services after AHS concocts some exclusion, whether true or otherwise. Save your money, maintain your equipment regularly, and search for contractors that will not accept an American Home Shield work request.

    I'm not a happy camper 'cause I had a problem with my heat in November and they never got that straight. They haven't been back since February. The last response I got from them, they had talked to the contractor and they were supposed to have been getting in contact with the contractor. But I haven't heard anything since then. It also took me two weeks to get hot water. The tech said they had to special order the hot water heater. But everything was good with the tech. I highly doubt if I'll renew my contract with AHS when it's over.

    My refrigerator was not working properly. After I submitted a request with AHS, somebody was assigned to my case and I got a call from the tech that was assigned. He scheduled an appointment based on his availability and my availability, and he came over to fix the problem. He told me that a certain part was not working. He had a few spare parts with him that day. He replaced the part and told me, "The fridge is fixed. Give it an hour for it to cool down and it will start making ice again." He was very professional and on time. He walked me through the process, told me what he was about to do, what was wrong with the fridge, what could have happened and how to avoid it.

    Up until recently, my experience with Home Shield has been pretty rough. I had a problem with my air system unit in February and I made the first payment. But the same problem existed for seven to eight different calls. On the contract, they had this policy where when you call them for service, you have 30 days for any revisit on that same service if there's a problem or if it wasn't like properly fixed. I had to pay again and the problem was not fixed until just recently. We were going through that struggle of the room temperature being too cold or too hot.

    I recently heard from the first company that they assigned who diagnosed the problem. They told Home Shield and Home Shield opted for a second opinion. Home Shield gave me a different contractor when I called them the third and second times. The problem could have been fixed the first time the first contractor came, but then we had to go through three or four different contractors and I had to pay two different sets of $125 before I got my problem fixed. This problem was fixed in late April and throughout the process, any time a contractor comes and pays attention to it, it takes a week and the problem happens again. The system goes down again and they call a different contractor. I tried to explain to them that the first two people that came said the same thing and if it's blown again, they should trace why it gets blown.

    They need to set up a system where their customer service can have a way to connect customers to a supervisor when the problem is needing in-depth attention. Anytime I call them, it’s an obvious customer service that picks up and tells me they can’t connect me. This is a warranty company. They deal with people who have appliances that might be serving them day in, day out and who can’t have it off or not working and wait for days.

    We kept having issues with our air conditioning freezing up. We had a person come out and do a maintenance check on it and they just check everything and if it needs to be cleaned off, they'll clean it. They really don't do anything else. About a week or two after he had come through, the AC unit froze up again. So, I called American Home Shield and I set up an appointment to have someone come out and take a look and see what the problem was. The turnaround time was fine. I put the request in on a Sunday and Advanced was here on a Wednesday.

    Something was wrong with my fridge and I did a claim for it. The customer rep said he allotted somebody and that the contractor would give me a call. It was Friday. They never called me back on the weekend. It took a long time for someone to come out. I waited for two days and then there was a weekend. My parents have their insulin and all other things in the fridge such as the grocery. Everything went bad. You cannot keep the medications outside.

    I had to call back on Monday. They said the person I talked to didn't put in the work order on the computer so I had to re-register it after three or four days. After that, it was pretty fast.     I got two claims with American Home Shield. The garage experience with who did the garage started out questionable, but they finished extremely well. There was a misunderstanding about what services I wanted to have done, but they made good on it, and I was very pleased with the garage company. With the dryer company, I have had to remind AHS to tell them several times to send a tech out. Then the tech came a day early than when he was scheduled to. He came an hour before I was leaving to go to my sister's wedding, refused to not come back the next day, and told me he would have my dryer fixed before I would be leaving to go to the wedding. They partially fixed the dryer. It is still making the same noise that it did before it got so bad that we had to call you AHS.

    American Home Shield was supposed to call them and have them come out. I have not gotten one single phone call from them. I am not happy about the dryer company's service. I'm wondering what I paid $75 for because the guy only came out and changed the $5 part that I could have done myself. He didn't even bother to test the dryer. We had to go to my sister's wedding and he was a day earlier. Had he come the next day, he could have been there all day. We could have thrown a load of heavy clothes in there, tested it, and he could have heard the noise, and finished fixing it. He did what he could with what he had, but all of a sudden, they disappeared. American Home Shield has told them that they need to contact me to schedule another appointment, and I haven't heard from them.

    I've been with AHS for 20 years in four different houses. I'm used to dealing with them. I normally get amazing service. I just never had somebody show up a full day early and not come back when requested. But a lot of this stuff is out of AHS' control because they have to call third parties to come out, and it's not their job to call them every day like a collection agency and say, "Hey, did you go out there? Hey, did you go out there? Hey, did you go out there?" It's dependent upon me calling.

    AHS is amazing. They send people out that work with me on every single problem. On some of the stuff that I've had in the past that's not covered or too old, they have given me a discount or a credit towards getting certain things fixed. So, I've always appreciated that. They have always worked with me in a fair and decent manner. It's just some of the third parties that they round up have been questionable over the years. Overall, I've had a great experience with them. They are always so helpful. Everybody's always done exactly what I've asked. Everybody in my family has been happy with AHS. We always pick AHS when we buy new houses.

    The technician that AHS sent out was very good. But I'm very unhappy with them right now. Their prices are outrageous, for a senior citizen at that. Plus, no one can get through their little thick skull over that the past 40 years with me, and over 60 years with my parents, they always sent me a statement in the mail and I would pay it monthly. They said that my new policy would remain the same, but they jacked up the price on me and it's now $149. I can't afford that amount per month. That's ridiculous as I don’t use them very often. Only when I have to.

    When I talked to the person, they said, since I'm a senior citizen and a veteran, they’d keep the price the same. That wasn't the case though. They could care less and they didn’t drop it down like the guy told me. And they used my credit card to pay the difference, which I did not authorize. They said they would go ahead and pay for the month of May because of what they did and they still have not sent me an invoice for the month of May. Aside from the fact that their billing reps don't listen to me, they should get rid of their computerized system because it takes me forever to try to get somebody to talk to, a human person, instead of a stupid computer.

    My washing machine was not washing the clothes and the spin cycle was not operating properly. A technician came out within a week and then he came out a week later with the parts in order to fix whatever was wrong. The technician was very professional and friendly. The other problem I have had is I called American Home Shield early in March. My water lines were clogged in my kitchen and in my washtub sink for the hot water. I also had a problem with one of the sinks in the master bedroom bathroom.

    One issue I have is with the Member Services. As a senior citizen with hearing problems, I really have a big problem with the fact that all the representatives that I spoke to were located in the Philippines. Because of their heavy accents, I was having difficulty getting everything all squared away. And every time I would ask for a supervisor or every time I would ask to be transferred over to somebody that didn't have such a heavy accent, I end up with the runaround and am not able to speak to a supervisor. When they finally did have a supervisor try to contact me, I did not know what time the supervisor was going to call because they would not put me in contact with a supervisor right away. Twice a supervisor called me and I was not able to get to my phone in time to take their call.

    When technicians come out for claims, they make a diagnostic. When they make a diagnostic, it seems like they're trying to make it to where the problem is not covered by my insurance. I called American Home Shield and they said that the plumber's diagnosis indicated that I had less water pressure because I live in the country. I have a pressure tank and well water.

    American Home Shield sent out a second company that was a pressure pump/tank and well company. All they were able to do was look at my pressure tank and my well water system. They made a diagnosis that everything was fine outside of the house. I was having problems with the inside of the house. I called American Home Shield again and I told them that I did not want the first plumbing company to come out because they didn't know what they were doing. They sent out another plumbing company and they made a diagnosis that my tankless water heater was clogged and that it needed to be flushed. I asked what needed to be done and the technician said he needed to collect $250 upfront from me to flush out the tankless hot water heater. The thing about it was he needed to go pick up some chemicals. He didn't have the chemicals with him. He would have to leave and then come back.

    I called American Home Shield to get this thing squared away and requested the plumbing company that had come out and serviced my problem with the plumbing once before. They were telling me that the plumbing company was not available and that they were too busy. I asked how long it would be before they could out and they said, "We're not contacting them because they're too busy and they're not able to come out.”

    I called that company directly and they were able to come out within a week from the time I called them. They checked the problem. They had to take out the flexible water line and put in new ballcocks underneath the sink to get the water flowing. The plumber then said somebody was going to have to come out and flush the tankless hot water heating unit because it was clogged. I called American Home Shield again in regard to this and told them to have the same company come out and take care of that. I was told that was not covered by my insurance because that was regular maintenance.

    I ended up getting the plumbing company that American Home Shield was not able to dispatch. They came out and they flushed out the tankless hot water heating unit. They ended up flushing the problem that I had in my washtub sink and got it working properly. In summary, I had something in the water line that had come loose and it had blocked my water line. In order to get it working again, I ended up having to get my tankless hot water heater flushed. To flush out that problem there, I had to change up the water lines underneath my kitchen sink and change out the spigots.

    I'm gonna be going through the California Board that takes care of problems whenever you're having a problem with a company and their contract. I'm going to be contacting them and filing a claim against American Home Shield. It seems like when a diagnosis does not fall in line with what they say is in the contract, the next thing I know, I'm arguing with them going, “I've got the top-of-the-line plan and I'm supposed to be able to take everything out.”

    That aside, everything is working well except that I found out that I have a bad faucet in my master bathroom. I have to get a faucet and replace the faucet that is not working properly in the master bathroom. I have receipts from the plumbing company, Pacific Plumbing. They're the ones that fixed the problem that I have here at my house.

    American Home Shield charged me twice for the service people to come out and I had received a bill from the pressure tank company when they came out. I had to get ahold of American Home Shield and tell them, “I'm getting bills from different companies that you're sending out because they’re saying that it's not covered under my contract.”

    I called American Home shield on April 16 2022 to make a claim on my refrigerator and dishwasher. They assigned S&S Appliance Parts & Services LLC to assess and repair the appliances. The contractor came out and said that both dishwasher and refrigerator had to be replaced. A few weeks or so went by and called AHS to find out when was the replacement of the appliances going to take place, and they told us they have to get the assessment from S&S before any determination could be made. There was an issue between AHS and S&S on why no one knew where the results from the assessment was. Eventually they said that both items needed repair and the parts were ordered, and that never happened. They took a month or so to figure it out, after speaking to supervisors who said they understood and would expedite the claim for replacement, never happened.

    After another month or so, they explained that S&S never gave them the assessment and they would have to send them out again to do another one, and I would have to pay another $100 deductible. I complained regarding having to pay a deductible for a job that was never done. I spoke to either the same supervisor or may have been another, regarding this continued problem. One of the times I called back, I found out AHS closed the claim, when nothing had been fixed or replaced. On August 26, 2022, I had the claim reopened, hoping perhaps it would get resolved. The contractor never showed up. I have been paying the monthly warranty fee of $63.99, then it went up to $70.99 every month for years. I did not want to cancel and give them a way out of not honoring a contract, and agreement within the contract.

    I called today April 29, 2023, and the auto system said that I have an active claim, when I choose to hear the information for the active claim, it said you don't have an open claim right now. I spoke to a specialist, for one final resolution before submitting this with the BBB. She placed me on hold, then the call suddenly dropped. I still have the same broken appliances after a year. I'm ready to cancel but I want my problems resolved because I have been paying them money for years.

    I did a claim online for my dishwasher. The process was very easy, super straightforward and streamlined. The mechanic came and inspected everything after I told him the way that it slowed down and then stopped. He suspected two separate issues and immediately figured out that it was one of those, then he told me he needed to order a part and gave me a range of time in case he had to back-order it. Within two days, he followed up letting me know the part was in, so he came back to install the part, and my claim was solved in a matter of a few days. I've used the dishwasher twice since, and it's functioning properly.

    So far, I have had two separate claims with American Home Shield, and I've been very pleased with both as far as timing, communication, scheduling, and the most important, to me, is the people that have been sent out to help.     We had a 94 temperature degree in my area. It was so hot and I tried to use the AC but it did not work. Last year, Home Shield had a special. It was $75 to have somebody come check your AC and tune it up and have it ready for the summer weather. This year, they didn't have that special. The girl that I talked to said I would be changed the $100 regular fee. She was very quick and got me a service company. The company was Infinity Home Solutions and they responded the next day.

    I was really pleased that this company was very good. We had other experiences with other companies and they were not very good. But with this recent one, the guy named Noah was here at eight o'clock on Saturday morning to fix my AC so we had it under control. He was very efficient, professional, and knew his stuff. He found the problem and fixed it. He stuck around until the house was cooled down. The whole AC unit was up and running like it was supposed to. I'm very pleased. If I ever have problems with AC, I want this company to come in.

    Last year I wasn't happy with a claim I had with American Home Shield. The other companies that came to fix the other problems in my house were not very good. I was trying to get another company. I talked to the supervisor/manager and they fixed the issue. Not everything that we have with American Home Shield has been perfect. But on the good side, they've been able to fix whatever the problem was. When we had a couple of my faucets that were leaking, a company came and put the cheapest faucets on my sink, which I was not happy with. I told the repair people to give me something else but they said that was what American Home Shield told them to get for us. I tried to talk to American Home Shield and it was very frustrating.

    My refrigerator has been out since April 26th. I called American Home Shield initially, and they sent out a repair person that following Thursday, but he could not fix it. He told me that they have to transfer this to another company that could deal with it. They need to replace my compressor and do some kind of thing with the computer to program it right. American Home Shield reassigned me to Daryl. That happened on a Saturday, and Daryl has not yet given me a call to set up a meeting or a schedule for him to come out. The experience has not been good at all. Right now, I'm on the telephone with American Home Shield since 9:00, and I've been placed on hold. They are not all they cranked up to be. When I used American Home Shield for my over-the-stove microwave, they did fair with that and replaced it. Then they replaced the dishwasher for me. But each time was a wrestle.

    Aside from paying the monthly fee, I paid $125 for a service I did not receive. I was only given one option for a contractor, Tom Melton Services, who has HORRIBLE reviews, and his price was hundreds of dollars MORE than all the other quotes I received. So of course I did not use this vendor. What exactly am I paying for if I pay so much money each month, PLUS a service fee, and the cost is STILL hundreds of dollars more than other vendors who have GOOD reviews and not HORRIBLE reviews? I did have one excellent experience with this company in replacing a central air unit, but everything else has been terrible. I think AHS vendors are ripping them off, double dipping. The point of paying for AHS is to avoid massive out of pocket expenses, but it actually is just INCREASING my out of pocket expenses.

They gave me the technician information from the email and said they would get in contact with me when they were ready to come in. They would advise me what time the technician would be here. They gave the technician my information and they said I had to wait 24 hours for the company to contact me. I picked the time when I was gonna be available when they could come to do the service. I got someone from MGM and one was the Myers plumber. Both of these technicians were very nice. It didn't really take them less than five minutes to complete the item.     We had a refrigerator ice machine not working correctly, and we also had a washer that was not draining correctly. American Home Shield charged us $125 for each one of those issues, but only one technician came. I called AHS immediately after it happened, then the tech came, he fixed both the issues and said he wasn't going to charge anything for the one he fixed. He just made a change to it and he didn't have to buy any parts. He showed us what was going on. American Home Shield hasn't reimbursed the $125. I really think they should because there was no extra trip by any technician. The technician who came out was great. He talked to us in American English, which was super, and he told us why he wasn't making any charge in that particular one.

    He finished the other one, and a part had to be ordered. When the part came, he came and installed it. That's working great. So, we're happy with that. We're just not happy with paying 250 bucks. Overall, the technicians have been great and that's really something because that's one of the reasons we switched what we had.

    I wasn't getting water to my showerhead. This was for a specific mechanism in the shower handle. I did a claim on the American Home Shield website and that was pretty easy. There are quite a few un-user-friendly websites out there, trying to manage and navigate through the website. But American Home Shield is pretty straightforward. It was only four clicks to submit the claim.

    American Home Shield assigned me a work order and the contractor showed up at the door. They were extremely professional and very knowledgeable. There were two different crews. There was the one that came out and diagnosed the problem. And then there was another crew that came out with the part and did the installation. This is the second time that this contractor has been out to the house. The work order was closed but they still have to come out on Wednesday to do things.

    We've had American Home Shield for about 90 days or so. The reason we got it was because the house is 102 years old and the home warranty covered smaller items that required insurance, smaller than what the homeowners insurance covers. I like American Home Shield's reputation. I asked a few people if they had the same service or if they had similar services. A lot of them had similar services other than American Home Shield and they refused to use the contractual obligation about what is covered and what's not covered. They easily slide out from the responsibility of getting things fixed or repaired. American Home Shield has come through for me on three occasions. They’re able to do what they say they're able to do and fix and cover the items that have faults or are unserviceable. This home warranty is worth it.

    I paid $75 for a service call on my water heater. I did not have a choice who they were sending out. The company they sent out only charges $29. The company quoted me a price for my water heater. In the quote were items that I felt were not needed. I talked to the manager of the company to express my concerns and was told that the tech was right. I then informed the manager that I would be getting a second opinion. So I asked to get a second opinion. In order to get a second opinion it would have to be from another company of AHS choosing and I would have to pay the service charge again. I informed them that if I didn't trust the first company that they sent out, why would I trust the second. So I got a second opinion from a different company. My hunch was correct. They were charging me for work that did not need to be done. So I choose the cash out option and went with the other company.

    The only thing the warrant covered was the water heater, the removal of the old water heater, and labor. Nothing else. After I went with the 2nd company, the 1st company sent me another quote for $700 less than what was originally. I called and informed AHS and the service rep said the price difference was because they took some charges off. I told him exactly, they were removed because they were not needed, but if I hadn't questioned them I would have been charged for them. I do not know how they screen the businesses that work for them, but they are a reflection on AHS. I have just cancelled my policy and that was not an easy task. I am now being told that I owe them money for administration fees. I had been a customer for 5 years.

    When something breaks down, I don't have to go out and buy a whole appliance out of my pocket. I had a man coming in when I first got American Home Shield. He messed up my kitchen stove, and I had to buy it out of my pocket. And he wrote it up wrong. I asked AHS not to send him back. He has not returned back to my house. Recently, my dryer wasn't getting the clothes dry. There's no problem getting to an agent. It's getting to somebody that speaks English. AHS uses a lot of foreign people and they don't understand what I'm saying. But they ordered parts for the dryer. It's doing fine.

    If something happened in my house today, it takes AHS two days before they would get to me. I have contractors that are 15 minutes away from me. AHS would use those that have come out from two to three hours away from me. I still recommend AHS though, because I stay in the country. It doesn't mean that everybody else that I talk to stays in the country and they have the same amount of turnover time.

    The dishwasher in our vacation home needed to be repaired. The contractor was excellent. They had to order a part. We had so much snow in Tahoe that they kept trying to book with me, but I couldn't get up there. They had the part, and they kept calling back until I was ready to be out there. Then they met us up there and arranged the time that worked for us.

    I've had three repairs over the years that I've had American Home Shield and they have a simple claims process. It's all so easy online. One of the claims was for a furnace in Tahoe. It's a 20-year-old furnace, so I was shocked that the tech had the part. He repaired it on the spot. We had a good experience with that.     I had a problem with the fan turning on. It was intermittently working. I called American Home Shield on the phone and it was pretty quick to get through. I was impressed. The contractor had to order a part. They submitted it, and they got approved. When they got the part, they came back out and put it in. We've been fine since.

    The only difficult part with American Home Shield is that they're going with companies overseas, and the people that don't quite speak good English. It's very difficult sometimes depending on who you get, especially when you've been on hold for 30 minutes, and then all of a sudden, you got through. When you speak to someone, it's so hard to understand. But that's not just with American Home Shield. It's also with other companies you call. They’ve all gone to the same thing.

    When I send in a claim, American Home Shield says, “You'll receive an email or a text on who the contractor is. They'll contact you or you can contact them if you don't hear from them within 24 to 48 hours.” But they've never specified who. The only thing I don't like is who they use for a specific electrician in my sister's neighborhood. They need to do a better job trying to vet people. I've dealt with that company that my sister had to use, and even though they have a license, I wouldn't call them at all to work on anything I had.

    Dealing with American Home Shield on my personal issues, the quality of service has been fine so far. They told me, “Hey, anybody you have sign up, and just tell us it was you, you will get $25 referral for Amazon.” I said, “Okay. Great.” I'm still dealing with the American Home Shield referral program in trying to get those $25 because I know my friends have signed up. So I'm trying to hold American Home Shield accountable for what they told me.

    Sometimes, the service is good, depending on the technician that American Home Shield selects. Sometimes, it's difficult when the technician is not doing the work, and it's hard for them to find another technician. For example, a particular client in my rental property sent in a claim to check my AC last summer, and the technician never showed up. But I paid the money, and they never reimbursed me. Every time I called American Home Shield, I told them, "Can you give me another technician?" But they never gave me another technician. I just got tired with it and found somewhere else to do the work. American Home Shield could improve on finding better technicians to do their work. For some reason, when they get a technician, they just stick to that technician.

    We turned on the heat and it sounded like it was pounding out in the garage. It was really loud. I gave American Home Shield a call because we just changed to this new warranty company. I told them we'd like for someone to come out and look at the issue. Customer service was very nice. They asked some questions and it was really easy. The contractor was really nice too, especially given the fact that we changed from a warranty company that it took months to get somebody out here. The tech told us exactly what he was doing as he went along. We found out that the furnace was not installed correctly. The tech ended up cleaning the inside of the furnace a little bit. He also told us that the door that was on the side of the furnace needed to be left off so that the furnace could go ahead and get fresh air in and circulate. Everything is functioning nicely now.

    I like the fact that American Home Shield is quick. I don't have to wait for two months for somebody to come out or decide to come out or they didn't find a contractor. With the other warranty we had, we ended up having to look for one, which really bugged us. American Home Shiels is a good program. It's priced pretty much close to what we would pay with the other company we were using. The people we've dealt with have been really helpful. It was nice to know that people are out there and they're willing to do their job so that the money that you're paying them is not going to waste.

    I had a plumbing problem and American Home Shield sent out some plumbers from Moss Bluff. The little fellow that came had no clear idea what he was doing and charged me $200 over the amount that was on there. The second little fella acted like he was afraid to go into the house. I was totally not happy with my experience. They wanted to come out a third time. I ended up getting someone else because the problem was not fixed.

    I'm debating whether or not I'm gonna continue my policy with American Home Shield. I've been with them for a while, got discouraged, left, and came back. For some years, I have felt really confident that if something went wrong, I could call them up, until this happened. I'm really floored that we've had this type of experience. It also amazes me that they could not find plumbers in my area. It took a while before the people finally came from Moss Bluff and I could have done a better job than they did. I wonder if American Home Shield is losing companies. I would not recommend them to my friends.

    I'm not a "fix her up" kind of guy. I don't know the parts. I also don't know who is the best company to use. So, I trust that American Home Shield already vetted these companies. They're licensed, insured and qualified workers. That's why I use AHS. Also, I travel a lot so I don't have time to start looking around for a qualified repair person. Recently, my AC was low on Freon. I have a small leak in my AC unit. All the contractor needed to do was add Freon. But they told me that next time it happens, I would probably have to replace my AC.

    I had a claim and there was one guy who was supposed to fix the issue but he said he couldn't do it. I think American Home Shield shouldn't hire people like that. I had to call back a second time and they had to send another person out. But with my claim with Eagle Locksmith, the tech was fabulous and knew exactly what he was doing. He couldn't change the locks on my shed, though, but I understand that. Everything else he did in a timely fashion and he did it cleanly.

    My garage door wouldn't open properly. It kept stopping. Technicians came out and fixed it. Right now, I still have an ongoing problem that American Home Shield has not fixed. This has been going on since July of ‘22. This is for the hot water heater. It took AHS from July to November ‘22 to decide that it needed to be replaced. I was driving five hours to get to the location whenever technicians came out to do whatever they needed to do to fix it and another five-hour drive back.

    In November, AHS ordered the part. In February, they told me I needed to pay a certain amount of dollars for the warranty for different other things. It came up to almost $400 out-of-pocket. On March 31st, I was told that technicians were gonna come out and replace the unit. I made this five-hour trip down there and the technicians came but did not have a water heater. He asked questions about whether it was in the attic, which they knew it was in attic because every time they came, that was where they were going. The technician told me that it’s gonna take two people and he didn't have an extra person. I was told that he will come back on Saturday and replace it.

    I made another trip. He did not come and he did not call. I have not heard from them either. I have been talking to AHS and they asked if I needed their assistance contacting the service company. This is where we are now and I'm very upset. It's been too long and I am very dissatisfied. AHS is getting ahold of the contractor and they told them that they will call and make an appointment for me to go back, but they have not done it. AHS has been a benefit for me. Technicians come out and fix things. It's just AHS' motto is if they can't fix something, they'll replace it but I'm learning that if they cannot fix something, they're taking me all around the world before they replace it.

    I spoke about the leaking valves in the home. But when the plumber came here to come and fix them, he couldn't fix the one under the sink in the bathroom. I asked why. He said, "We couldn't do that because it's not on the claim." American Home Shield only told him two or three valves. He did the main thing but didn't do all the other jobs because it was not on his worksheet.

    When he got to close the main valve, the main valve was broken. So, he had to replace the main valve in the basement. I said, "Okay." He said, "It's either/or. I'm gonna replace this one and then I don't have to replace the other two." So, he went on to the bathroom and fixed the flashing mechanism. And that was it. He never changed the other valves in the bathroom. So, I said, "But I told the person exactly what happened and the valves that were leaking were two in the basement, and the other two, I could have removed them myself but I couldn't do it." So, I had to call AHS and tell them about it. They told me they would look into it. They would listen to the tape. But they never got back to me. I saw an email, but I was already on vacation. I looked at it and said, "It looks like they resolved the matter or what, but this thing was not resolved with me." So I said, "I'm just gonna leave it."

    I had American Home Shield in my prior home for the first year just so you don't have any unexpected expenses in the first year as you're moving in. I have the home warranty again and it's very easy to use. I had a clog that turned into a leak. I called American Home Shield and it was very easy getting through to them. They told me the name of the contractor and they were great. I’d recommend them.

    They started with a snake and then they reset the toilet because that's where they thought the leak was coming from. They did a lot of testing and I was very impressed. They seemed very thorough. They ran all the drains, sinks, and bathtubs. They flushed all the toilets all at once to make sure nothing would back up. American Home Shield gives you peace of mind for the coverage. I also purchased some additional appliance coverage through them because the appliances in the house are pretty old. For ease of use and peace of mind, it's well worth the money spent.

    I put in claims for an electrician and for a plumbing issue. The electrician got in contact less than 24 hours after I put in the request and Robert from Boren Electric Service came out. There was a wiring issue and he fixed the back porch and living room lights. Once he finished, he called and told me what he fixed and what the issue was. I would recommend him. He was awesome. The plumber took six or seven days to get in contact but they came and they were able to fix whatever the issue was. I was very thankful with American Home Shield. It would have cost me way more money to have somebody random and with AHS, all I had to do is pay my deductibles.

    We noticed that our refrigerator was freezing food in the refrigeration part of the refrigerator-freezer combo that we have. We tried other things first and googled it but then nothing did anything. It still froze the food, so we called American Home Shield. They then contracted it out to Pacific Home Appliance. The man who came out looked at it and said, “Yeah. These two things need to be replaced, and that should fix it.” He ordered those parts, came back in a couple of weeks, and then replaced those parts. It was still freezing, so he came back out after we contacted American Home Shield again. He said, “Yeah. It's probably the motherboard in the back, so I have to replace that.” He ordered the part and we're just waiting to hear to schedule a time for that to be installed.

    Overall, communication is fine. It's up to when the part will come in, if they will call to reschedule the installation. Otherwise, their service has been good. They tell me approximately what timeframe they're gonna be out here, and they usually meet that time frame. I haven't had any complaints with the company themselves. We like the fairly prompt service with whatever issues we have. We had a water heater that went out years ago, and they replaced the whole water heater. It’s kind of expensive over the years if nothing happens, but when something happens, it's nice to have that peace of mind knowing that it will be taken care of pretty soon. As far as the technicians, the service has been always prompt and very professional. They would explain things to me because I like to stand around and learn things when they're installing things. They're more than happy to explain what they were doing and what to look for and troubleshoot things in the future.

    We had a leak under the sink. American Home Shield sent a technician out in just a couple of days. He was great. We've had a few techs that weren't the best, but generally, they've been good. Customer service has improved. We do not question whether we should have the service or not. I do our claims online now. It's really easy.     We've had a couple of appliances replaced through American Home Shield because they weren't able to fix them. There were maybe one or two times where someone was sent out that we thought was a little iffy. It was a contractor that we were not extremely happy with, but they got the jobs done. So, in general, we've been extremely happy with American Home Shield. Last year, we had an issue with one of our air conditioning systems and quite a bit of it was covered, but some of it was not that we had to pay out of pocket. It was something that happens to a 12-year-old air conditioning unit. Having AHS has been cost effective for us. We've had the dryer repaired five times. The washer was replaced. Our double oven was replaced. They just replaced the dishwasher. We've already recommended to friends about American Home Shield. We say, "Well, we bought it, and it's been very worth it for us."

    I had some problems with my air conditioner. The first time, it cost me over $500 and nothing was covered. The second time, it was $1,100 and nothing was covered. So, I said, "What the hell am I paying them $2,700 for for three years, plus all of the service fees when nothing was covered?" With that $2,700, I could have put that aside and paid my bill. They wanted me to upgrade. I was already paying $60 a month and that comes to 700 and change a year and I'm not having $700 a year in troubles. It was not a beneficial expense for me. I've cancelled my warranty with them.

    I had a claim approved by AHS for a leak in July. At this point, I was only waiting for the actual repair to be scheduled. I began to work with my AHS assigned contractor to schedule the actual repair. What followed was multiple phone calls with my assigned contractor to schedule the repair were met with explanations of how scheduling was difficult for them due to staffing issues. It started as one or two weeks of delays, but eventually stretched into several months.

    As I was not in a rush to get this item repaired (i.e. not a necessity, but a nice to have), I decided to be patient and work with my assigned contractor as this claim was already approved and did not want to have to redo the whole process of scheduling for another estimate and paying another $100 deductible to AHS for an issue that we already knew was an acceptable claim.

    At no time did AHS reach out to try to schedule a new vendor, or confirm this repair was completed, although for the entirety of this period this claim remained "opened and approved" on their website. When I received a notice that my warranty was ready for renewal (9 months later), AHS was finally able to assign a new contractor. During this visit, now in April, the new technician wrote up a diagnosis after verbal discussion of the issue and a purely exterior and visual diagnosis as "freeze damage". As a result the same claim from July was now denied.

    After discussing with the new contractor how the issue had occurred in July and was already approved under different rationale, they acknowledged the logic and also attempted to call AHS, but AHS decided they could not allow an update and that they wanted to retain "freeze" as the diagnosis. In other words, AHS was taking the stance that somehow the break in July was due to a "freeze" (likely because it was convenient to AHS) and would not allow a change to the diagnosis in the new claim to what was stated during the original claim approved the past summer.

    After trying to get AHS to explain the logic behind "how can a leak identified in July and approved for "normal wear and tear", could now somehow be attributed to "a freeze" during the summer", AHS still wanted to stand by the stance that somehow, even though this was the same issue/item claimed in July, because they had to provide a new claim number, it was acceptable to now deny the claim. Furthermore, AHS even tried to charge me another $100 deductible to "offer a second opinion", which would require me to wait for another contractor to come out and ensure I had to renew my policy which was coming up for renewal within the next few days.

    This is not the first negative experience I had with this company, but it will be the last. Earlier this month, after taking my $100 deductible for a plumbing emergency, I waited over 9 hours for a leak to be fixed, but received no call from their assigned contractor, and when I called them, they could not reach them either. I finally fixed the issue myself and tried to see if they could cancel the plumber claim, and change my claim to have someone verify if there was any damage as a result of the standing water that had resulted due to the wait for a call that never came. They refused to have someone check and stated that they could not be liable for anything that occurred due to their lack on timely action.

    The only reason I had an AHS plan was that my realtor bought it for me after purchase. But after so many issues (more than just those mentioned above) I will be switching back to my previous provider, and will never again even accept another AHS policy "as a free gift" and would not recommend anyone else accept a free policy from a realtor, let alone pay out of their own pocket. While the statement "I would not even switch for a free policy" may sound like hyperbole, after calculating all the costs I incurred out of pocket, along with the constant aggravation of working with AHS, I can objectively confirm this statement in terms of over a thousand dollars for a "free/gift" policy.

    After calling my old provider, I discovered that I could return for at a much lower annual cost than AHS, with the same deductible and the same if not better coverage, and MUCH better customer service. As I had zero issues with them before, and only changed providers due to the free policy, the decision was pretty simple.

    Yesterday was surprisingly a good experience with American Home Shield. It does not happen all the time when I call them. I was gonna do a service call online, but when they ask you what the problem is, their choices are very basic. I was a little confused as to what to put down. So before I paid my service fee, I decided to call them. 99% of the time whenever I've had to call them, I've been on hold for like an hour. I usually end up doing things around my house while I'm waiting for them to get on the line. Yesterday, they surprisingly answered me within 10 minutes. It was not the greatest connection. The girl had an accent. She was very sweet and helpful, but it was hard to hear and understand a little bit because the connection wasn't that great. At the end of the day, my service caller called me, and they're coming out today.

    In general, I've had pretty good luck with AHS in getting people out here to take care of business. The biggest problem I've had with them usually is the phone if I wanna call them and trying to get through. I've been with them a long time, and their biggest issue was really getting through on the phone. I've also been told by some of the workers that they have trouble sometimes getting through the companies that will use American Home Shield to help people. Other than that, having AHS is worth every monthly thing that I spend because I have had things that were covered that have made up for what I have spent on the program itself.

    I called American Home Shield and told them there was something wrong with my furnace. It would only stay on for like five minutes and then it would shut off. The snow on the roof covered the whole vent, and it made the furnace malfunction. We had a snow storm. I kept calling them. I had a really hard time. They said, "Well, we're gonna try to find somebody. We'll call back in an hour." It took me five days to finally get ahold of them and when the contractor came, he said, "Nobody called." He said he's been available the whole time. The guy just told me that the snow was covering the vent on top of the roof and he said if it happens again, I would have to get somebody to come and snow off the roof.

    The man that came out was so nice. He gave me his card. He did not fix the problem because when he came out, the snow had already melted enough to fix the problem. I kept calling AHS and they would say, “Call back in an hour”. When I called back, the place was closed. The first call I had was at night. I was without heat for over five days. I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield. I was without heat that whole time that we were having a snow storm. I didn't get any sympathy at all from AHS. I'm 79 years old. I was very disappointed.

    I like that the coverage of AHS is great, but the ease of working with them is really huge. My most recent claim was for a washing machine yesterday. A month before that for that same property was the washing machine and the dryer. The dryer was making a severe screeching noise and the washer was as well. They replaced some parts when they came the last time. This time, they didn't have to replace anything.

    The techs were very professional. They called in advance. They were on time, answered questions, volunteered information and I didn't have to prompt them. They were very neat, too. I had another claim recently where we had to replace a refrigerator in my home and that went smoothly, too. I'm a very big fan of AHS. I have my property covered and I have since added my mom's properties that I’m taking care of.

    I'm in the process of two claims with American Home Shield for a dryer repair and a dishwasher repair. A nice guy ordered parts, came out, installed the parts, but the dryer is still not working properly. We're trying to follow up with him. He's not returning calls, but he's also contracted to fix the dishwasher and he's waiting on parts. As far as AHS, the only problem is I live on an island across from downtown Seattle. So, when they assign a contractor, they just look at distance. It might look like the person's eight miles away, but it's a 90-minute drive or a ferry ride. Most of the contractors don't want to come and they put it off for a long time, but that's the situation of where I live. This guy we're working with right now has been out regularly. He's a solo guy. If we could just get him to return our calls, it would be great.

    The AHS representatives have been hit or miss. Sometimes, you get an awesome rep. Sometimes, I don't even know that they understand the script they're being asked to read. AHS can improve the experience with the call centers. They've outsourced their call centers. So, the people answering the phone are working with a script. When I called about the dryer, I kept saying, "It's making this noise." "Well, if it's a noise, we're not gonna cover it." Then, they wanted me to do a video so that they can send that to the technician. I did it with them and five more times they wanted to do it. So, since they've outsourced the call centers, it's frustrating with that initial contact. Other than that, we have some high-end appliances and it has been cost-effective when they need repair. AHS had to replace a washer. So, to us, it's evened out cost-wise. If I look at what the cost of the warranty has been over the past five years, it's probably zeroed out.

    My most recent claim to American Home Shield was for my Samsung refrigerator, which wasn't cooling very well. It turns out AHS didn't service Samsung refrigerators. Neither did Samsung. So, I decided to sell my refrigerator. I really have not had great experience with American Home Shield typically because it takes too long for a service provider to show up. It's a rental house and when the guest has a problem, you don't wanna wait a month to get it serviced. That's typically what it takes. It's a week or two just to get somebody out there. They generally don't have the parts on the truck, and then they'll call you back in two weeks when they have the part, and then we're waiting another two weeks. So, it's really only practical in the off-season when no one is in the rental house.

    In the 10 years that I've been with AHS, I have not that many claims and it's a very rare instance where they can get the work done quickly or if they're doing it, there are exclusions. I had a claim last spring for the air conditioner not cooling and there was some problem with the switch-over valve with the heat pump. They covered it, but there was such a high cost for the Freon unload and reload that it was hardly worth the service call. In fact, it would have been cheaper just to use someone else without my policy. The Freon is only covered a certain amount and the problem was a leak in the system. So, there wasn't pretty much left. They had to unload it, put the new part in, and then put in all-new Freon. It took like 10 pounds and they only cover a pound. It's pretty expensive per pound. They don't make any money on the service call or the labor. They'll make it on the Freon.

    I'm happy with American Home Shield except for this last company they sent, A&E. They're really bad. I had a dishwasher that was supposed to be fixed, and they said they were ordering the parts. It's been three to four weeks, and they still haven't fixed it. I don't see how it would take them that long to get the part and they've never called, so I don't know what's going on with it. American Home Shield can pick better companies to work with. Everything else I had done was good. They did it right away and no problem. Having the home warranty is beneficial 'cause everything in the house breaks. You just don't know when.

    The repair people were good. The circuit breaker wasn't coming back on, and they replaced one of the receptacles and upgraded it with an AFCI built in. I've never had issues with American Home Shield, and I always advise people to get a home warranty.

    I have been trying to get AHS to replace my furnace for a month. The company they use (Right Tech Heating and Air) has multiple complaints about (scam, fraud, poor work, horrible service) it and have even changed their name to avoid bad reviews. They came once to fix my furnace which stopped working 30 minutes after they left and came out again to measure the unit. Have not heard from them since. The company has multiple bad complaints on the BBB and I am not even sure if they are licensed or bonded. I feel so unsafe with having someone like that in my house fixing a MAJOR APPLIANCE that could potentially burn my house down. Called AHS multiple times and they also have a hard time getting a hold of them and refuse to use another contractor.

    Meanwhile my family has been freezing for MONTH with no help. AHS customer service department is clearly outsourced to another country and have little to no insight or problem solving skills outside of their provided script. Consistently saying they will "make a ticket" and "I am sorry you feel that way but as of right now there is no one who can help you, but the best I can do is have someone to call you today". If I could afford a new furnace out of pocket and cancel my contract with AHS, I would do so in a heartbeat. Once this ordeal is over I am planning on doing so. WORST HOME WARRANTY COMPANY EVER.

    American Home Shield's service has been okay. It's just a little hard for me to have two separate accounts because I couldn't find an easy way to have both of them online because I would be using the same phone number for both of them. When you try to place your service request on the phone, sometimes you have to wait a long time. If you do it online, it's quick and easy.

    I had the warranty for many years. When you have American Home Shield, you don't have to research people when you need a repair done. Their contractors have all been good. American Home Shield sends people out to fix things and if something happens within 30 days of fixing, they'll send the same person back or a different one.

    I used the warranty on a rental house in 2011. I went to cancel it and I discovered that if you're not canceling at the time when your yearly term of service runs out, they said that if you haven't paid enough into your contract in order to cover the repairs you’ve had that year, there's some kind of fee you have to pay. It was very confusing.

    I had the warranty on auto-pay and I gave American Home Shield the date when I wanted to stop. I also told my bank when to stop it as well. American Home Shield charged me after the stop date. The bank challenged it as a fraudulent charge. I spoke to them on the phone, but they also told me to call the home warranty. I did and they said I had to pay. In my case, it was not the end of my term of service. They charge me an extra month or a service fee. It could have been me not understanding this or maybe it was in the fine print when I signed up or maybe they changed their regulations. I can't tell whether this was a user error or their policy all along and I hadn't known about it or I’d forgotten about it. But that made me feel a little grumpy.

    I called American Home Shield back and I said, “Look, this is what happened and my bank is challenging it. And here, you're telling me that this is because of the service fee.” They said, “Oh, don't worry about it. Our accounting department will take care of it.” They actually never did anything about it. My bank never refunded it.

    I'm going to be stopping my current warranty at my own residence because I'm moving. American Home Shield told me that if I called them and told them I was stopping my warranty in May, there wouldn't be any more charges on it. There's some kind of timing thing. My contract goes through in June. If I notify them in May, they've got their month's notice. Maybe it's that they need a month's notice and I just didn't get that right last time. I was obviously confused. If I had cancelled it earlier, it might have been weirder. I wrote down, “Call and cancel in May.” My house is on the market now and I'm in Ohio now instead of California. It's hard but not impossible to get to talk to a real person because American Home Shield expects you to do everything on the website.

    I had a garbage disposal that went out and we made the claim to American Home Shield. They were going to send out City Plumbing and we saw that they had a really bad review. I called American Home Shield back and said, “I don't want them to come out. It looks like they only have a 2-star. There are a lot of complaints about them. So can I switch to somebody else?”

    The last few times I called American Home Shield, I had a very good experience. This time, they said, “Yeah, no problem. Here's another name, take your time. I'll stay on the phone while you research this plumber. This is the only one that's popping up available.” If there were no good reviews on that one as well, they would give me a higher up customer service agent that would investigate and see if they could find somebody else that wasn't popping up available. They would reach out to them and see if they would take our call.

    It turned out that the second service company American Home Shield gave us had a great review. We went ahead and scheduled service with them. American Home Shield was very kind. They canceled the first service company and started the new one. I hang up the phone with them and two minutes later, the second service company called and said, “We got a call for you guys saying that you needed your garbage disposal.” They asked me what was wrong with it and I told them that we tried everything and we just can't get it to work. They asked if they could come the next day which was perfect. I told them, “Do you mind bringing a garbage disposal with you?" They said they would get an approval and bring one with them just in case. That way, they would not have to make two trips. This plumber was amazing.

    I have learned with American Home Shield, you do have to do your own research first. At least this last time, they were flexible enough to let me switch and choose who I wanted on their list, which was nice. We've had this home warranty for four years now. Prior to that, I had it with my other home for five years. I had a couple of bumps in the road with that one and that was where I learned.

    I originally was like, I don't know if I'm gonna do American Home Shield again, because they had sent out a company that was horrible. I had a washing machine that went out and it took two or three months to get it fixed. I just learned now to do my own research. American Hoem Shield is willing to give you somebody else and I didn't really realize that with my other house. If you can do that, it will probably work. Otherwise, I've heard people say they hate the home warranty because of that. You get months before something gets fixed.

    I would always request a particular plumber because I had such a great response from them. I have an appliance guy that I really liked. The only bummer thing is for some reason, sometimes American Home Shield takes that particular one off. They send one that's probably cheaper. If they don't send somebody that's local or close by within 30 miles away, the response time would be a lot worse. I try not to use those people.

    My husband is usually against American Home Shield. He would say that I'm paying monthly and stuff. But I like the reassurance and the fact that if something major goes out, you're only going to possibly pay $100 or whatever your deductible is. I feel a little bit more comfortable having American Home Shield now.

What I love about the coverage is I can go to the website, enter in what the concern is, pay my service fee, and I don't have to worry about it.     I've been with AHS for a year and a half now. But I'm ready to dump them. We've lived here for four years in Victoria, Texas, in a home that was built in 1967, and the first thing that went out was our air conditioning and heating unit, and we just got that changed out for 14,000. For our water heater claim, the techs came in and AHS said that the plumbing companies out of Corpus Christi said that they couldn't repair the leaking water heater because it was damaged and abused, but it had a dent in it when we bought the house. So they refused to go through with it. I'm not happy. I also had to pay $100 to the plumbing company for them to come out and say that I couldn't have it replaced. AHS could have told me upfront that this is what was going to happen. I thought there was gonna be someone who was gonna come out and view all my appliances. But AHS didn't do anything.

    I had different services from American Home Shield and there are some things that they just say they don't cover. I have a Jacuzzi tub in the master bath and it has jets in it. The switch needed to be replaced to turn it on. American Home Shield sent a plumber out for it and when they came, they said they didn't cover that. I wanted to call the home warranty back and challenge that it probably should have been an electrician that was sent out because it was a switch issue. That would make sense why their plumbers said they didn't deal with it.

    I also had a kitchen sink faucet replaced and it was one from Germany so it was expensive. It was a $300 something faucet. The technicians put in the cheapest one that Home Depot had which was a $15 plastic chrome faucet. I was really disappointed. I went out, bought my own, and had it put in. I wouldn't expect American Home Shield to spend that much money to get a like-kind but at least something that was better and of decent standard quality.

    Another thing is quite often, I give American Home Shield the phone number of the tenant at one of my rentals. I tell them not to call me because I can't make an appointment for the tenants and to just call them directly. Somehow, that's lost when they pass it on to their service company. Almost always, the service company would call me and tell me that they would be out there in five minutes.

    The dishwasher's water wasn't coming out, and then intermittently, it would shut off. You have to turn it back on, shut it off, and turn it back on. The issue ended up being a motherboard. Matt came and replaced it yesterday, and there are no issues now. He was very polite. I watched him do everything and he had no problem with that. So, I would recommend them any time.     My refrigerator wasn't getting cold anymore, and I called American Home Shield, and they sent someone out and fixed it. Working with their rep was a great experience. He told me everything that I needed to know, what was going to happen, and said they would send me an email saying who the tech was that was coming out, and when they would get to the tech, he'd send me a text message with updates on what was going on and when he'd be here. The tech was very professional and knowledgeable. We had to order the parts, and he fixed it to where my refrigerator was still able to get cold until he got the parts in. He pulled the cover off the back, and then he flipped something over. So, the freezer was helping keep the refrigerator cool.

    I did my homework, and American Home Shield stood out to me. They had a lot of good ratings and I liked that. I also liked that based on the contract, if something like my refrigerator goes out, they'll try to get somebody out to get the situation fixed as quickly as possible. I had a great experience with everything that I had them come out and do. Also, after the repairs are done, they reach out to me by email, making sure everything was done right and everything was satisfactory. I like that, too. People were like, “Well, you got homeowners insurance.” I was like, “Well, yeah. If you use homeowners insurance, your deductible is gonna go up, versus if you use American Home Shield, you pay your fee, and then they come out and fix it, and you're done. That's it. The rates don't go up.”

    Our washing machine's tub was wobbly and it was making noise. AHS sent me an email and said the contractor would get in contact with me within 24 hours. I ended up contacting them because I needed a washing machine. It was not fixable. AHS sent me a link to select a washing machine. There were many to choose from. Once we selected what we wanted, we had to go through another process after they told me the balance.

    Their contractor Keeping it Cool delivered the new washer to us. They tried to put it in the location where the waterline was but they were unable to because we had to get a knob put on it. So they left the new washing machine and the old one in the middle of my floor. They never came back. So my husband and my mother dragged the washing machine to the kitchen and hooked it up. They called me two weeks later to tell me to call AHS so they can get paid for the work they did. But AHS is great. They're the best. I've shared it with family and coworkers.

    I've had two air conditioner claims. One was in January, and the other one was when I asked for a tune-up last week. It was with May’s Heating and Air. I spent 100 bucks for the deductible, and the first guy said, “I can't do anything because it's not warm enough outside.” He was here three minutes, then he left. The same thing happened last week. American Home Shield sent the same company out again. I scheduled for a tune-up, but I knew something was wrong with my air conditioner. I told the guy, “Hey, it's not getting cold, especially in the evenings. It's getting stuck.” He came in, was here 10 minutes, and said, “Everything looks good. Your coils’ checked.” I said, “Hey, are the coils on the air conditioner clean?” He said, “Yeah, it's all good.”

    When the guy left, he left my thermostat on 67, but the exact same day, while I was working from home, I noticed that it was 75 degrees in the house. There was no air coming out. Because I have a young one, I had to figure it out myself and when I went outside, I ended up having to clean the coils that he said were clean. I had to get on YouTube and troubleshoot because I'm very technical, and I somewhat fixed it.

    I have a good friend and their family lives right up the street, barely three minutes from me, and they had the exact same experience with May’s. They hate them with a passion, and they have American Home Shield too. They said, “Hey, Winston, hopefully, they will send you All American.” Lo and behold, that's who got assigned to me today. I think my air conditioner is fixed now, but American Home Shield is sending All American. They were quick and very responsive, and I've heard nothing but good things about them. I was out another 100 bucks, so I’m in the hole for $200, but it's all good.

    American Home Shield has been good, thus far. I had an issue with the last contractor they sent out for the last two times, but thankfully, they got someone else coming out today for me. Hopefully that should turn this around for me. I love American Home Shield's service. I've had them since 2011, and I know it's not their fault that they have those issues. It’s a good service, and I'm not looking to leave anytime soon.

    Can I give 0 stars? One of the company which keep lowering the bar in terms of customer service. Been a customer for 6 years but it looks like no more - I am cancelling the contract. Got Water Heater problem - their service company technician comes, takes a look for 2 minutes and I get a quotation of $1225 out of pocket for modifications including the expansion tank which has to be replaced.

    I ask other companies in my area and their complete quote to replace everything is about $1700. So it means AHS is paying just $475 to their service contractor for water heater and labor? Or are they just trying to extract money from existing customers by overcharging for non-covered items and paying less to their contractor? I ask for cashout offer and I am offered about $450 for the water heater and labor. Where in this world you can get a Water heater and labor for that amount? Why underpay for cash out? To be honest I would charge back my credit card company for deficiency of service and cancel account. Let my credit card company talk to them. I wasted almost 2 hours of my time talking and negotiating.

    We had one repair done to our oven that wasn't working. It took a long time but they took care of it. We also had a microwave issue. They had the service guy come out immediately and he explained what was going on with the microwave. They just gave us a voucher so we can replace it because it's not going to work anymore. The process was quick this time. I was happy with that.

    AHS has saved us money in the long run. If something like this happens again with another appliance, we're really happy with the amount that we have to pay versus coming out of pocket to replace everything. There's also the hassle of finding somebody to come look at the issue. It would be somebody that we know and not just me looking through the phone book and getting some stranger.

    But with the air conditioning, AHS didn't want to fix the issue. They wanted to put an inline sealer and the tech told us that doesn't last very long. Other than that, we're happy with AHS.

    The burners had went out on my cooktop and my dishwasher wouldn't come on the board. I also have a built-in range that's not heating properly. Sears came and they were good. The cooktop had to be replaced because the parts were discontinued. I got a new cooktop and I love it. However, there was a mix-up with American Home Shield. They sent the tech out, but he was booked for that day so he could only check the cooktop. He never got to the dishwasher and the range. Now, they're trying to find me another vendor that I hadn't received yet. They said they didn't have an available vendor in my area. I talked to them again yesterday because if I hadn't, I would have been just waiting. The technician from Sears told me that the person from American Home Shield had told him I had two more open claims, but they never assigned me anybody.

    I also had a couple of technicians that came out for certain things, but they didn't diagnose them correctly. It wasn't my fault that their technicians didn't do the job correctly but I had to pay to get another vendor to come out, which I didn't like. They wrote it up so American Home Shield wouldn’t pay for it. They left out a few details in their write-up. They said it wasn’t wear and tear, it was a line that was clogged. If they knew the line was clogged, they could have just unclogged the line. My sprayer is also leaking but they never even talked about the sprayer.

    I called American Home Shield and talked with someone. The people you talk to when you sign up to get this warranty speak fluent English. But heaven help you when you call and you try to get a problem fixed. It was very difficult to communicate with American Home Shield. It's hard to understand anybody you're talking to. You're trying to talk to someone and it seems like they don't understand you and you don't understand them during the course of the conversation. I got to a point I didn't even wanna call, even though I had a problem getting my AC fixed. It was pathetic the number of times I called.

    My AC didn't work last year and it was late in the summer. I was hot but I just lived with it. When it came time for me to try and get the unit fixed, the company that showed up did not come when I asked them to come. Someone came out for my unit and left a card saying, “I'm sorry I came and you weren't home. So, we left.” This was when I told them I wasn't gonna be there. I needed to schedule a different time.

    Eventually, another company called Rivers Reliable Services came and the owner of the company was Mo. Trying to get my AC fixed was not pleasant. Mo contradicted me several times on what I was told from his office and he said, “No, they didn't say that.” I actually write down everything when I'm talking to somebody. I can tell the same story over and over.

    A new compressor came in and the service company put it in. It wouldn’t work so they had to take it out. They said, “It won't take that long to get another one.” What should have been another week ended up being another three or four weeks. I had the owner of the company call me one day. I was up almost in Summerville, which is where I live. He was in Mount Pleasant, which is about 20 miles away. He said, “The weather forecast calls for rain, so I'm not gonna come work on it.” I said, “Well, I'm standing outside, and it is not raining.” It started raining about five minutes after that and that lasted about 15 minutes. I make the drive every day from where I live over to Mount Pleasant so I know how long it takes. During the day, not on a Sunday, it takes him longer. By the time he would have gotten here, it would not have been not raining. He was supposed to come the next day but he didn't come because he wasn't feeling well.

    American Home Shield was on the phone and say, “I can't get in touch with the air conditioning unit.” When they did call, their story was completely different than what I was told. They weren't helpful at all. My monthly bill has gone up a total of $240 a year. $69.91 is what I was paying every month. The new draft I'm paying right now is right at $91 a month. I'm giving strong consideration to just canceling the home warranty and getting someone else.

    Long story short, it took about three months for my air conditioner to get fixed. The work they finally did was good but I will never let Rivers come work on my heating and air units again. They were a nightmare. They bought a small window air unit to put in my bedroom to try and help part of my house stay cool. That was in September and that unit is still in the window. They have not gone back to get it yet.

    Recently, I got an email saying if I wanted to get it a screening done, I needed to call American Home Shield to set up a time to have my unit inspected. I have until May 17th to have an inspection done. With the ones who came out and did the inspection, everything with them was good across the board. I would use them. I had to call and reschedule because my work schedule got changed and they worked with me very well with that. If I still keep American Home Shield and I want a new inspection done, I hope they're the ones I get because if it was either one of the service companies that I had to do business with the first time came, I won't let them come back to my house.

We had a toilet running constantly and a leaky faucet. I did the request online and it was pretty easy. We've had a few claims and this was the fastest response that I ever had. But I didn't have an option for a leaky faucet when I filed the claim. It said leaky pipe. When the contractor, Prime Plumbing, called me, I explained it. I wanted to make sure that they were clear. They fixed it in a timely manner. We also had an item where the tech worked on our kitchen sink that was dripping. It was fixed but it is now dripping. I plan on calling them back and I'm hoping they don't charge again because it's the same issue.

    We got off on the wrong foot. When I first signed on to American Home Shield, the representative had told me that if I signed on with them, I would have a complimentary HVAC cleaning. I signed up on May 1st. My contract kicked in a month later. June 2nd, they had told me that that agreement for the HVAC cleaning ended June 1st. I tried to explain to them that I signed on May 1st when that contract was available because I wanted the HVAC cleaning. They said, "No, we can't do that." That didn't make sense to me. But they ended up getting someone to do the cleaning so I was happy about that.

    American Home Shield should stop charging my card before the client gets the service done. I've asked them to stop doing this but they keep doing it. PHD Mechanical did not come out for my plumbing claim because we rescheduled, but my card was charged. I explicitly told them that I didn't know when this appointment was gonna happen because it was last minute. I asked them not to charge my card because I might need to get someone that same day to do it. But they charged my card anyway.

    We have MRCOOL mini-splits and one of the connection was busted. Because we just got them, they're still on a warranty. MRCOOL sent us the part but what they weren't responsible for was the freon. That was when we called American Home Shield. They sent out A-Us Air to put in freon, but they didn't put in enough. They didn't pull the backing on the line like they should have. They didn't hook up any gauges. They just filled it up to what they thought it should be filled up to. It was working when they left, but because they didn't put in enough, it quit working.

    American Home Shield wanted to send the same company out, but we didn't want that. We requested another company to come out. We told the second company what had happened, and they put gauges on. They ended up having to put in more freon because it was a bit low than what it should have been. They tested for leaks, which the other company didn't do. It's resolved but we ended up having to pay another service fee. This isn't our first time with American Home Shield and I've never had any major issues with them. They've always been very timely with their responses.

    American Home Shield let me know who would come out, follow up with a text message to say if I didn't hear from these people in 24 hours, I should call them. We're very pleased. We were gifted American Home Shield when we bought our house for six months. We were so impressed that we did the same on the house we were selling. And as soon as the six months were up, we have stayed with it. At Christmas, we had an issue with a fuse blowing. For that turnaround, it was the same night. The guy said, "I just figured I could swing by on my way home." The tech showed me what happened, and some water had got into one of the connections of the Christmas lights. And he showed me what to do, so the next time that happened, I knew what was going on. He was fabulous. AHS is worth every penny. We don't have to worry about things, it's $75.

    The only negative one we had was with the furnace. And that was because they said if we went through our warranty, they would pay it, but we would have to start the process over. And it would take six weeks to get because AHS has to order the furnace and get it to them, and they get it in. It was the middle of winter. So, we opted to buy the new furnace ourselves so we could have it in. But the company they sent us to gave us the option. When we said we would buy it ourselves, they had the new furnace in in two days. The companies AHS uses are great, and we've been very pleased. I recommend AHS to anyone who asks me.

    I had a claim to American Home Shield for my furnace and I didn't really have an issue with that but just previous to that was my water heater and that pretty much pissed me off. Besides the delay on even getting me a quote and info from the service provider, the service provider was fine all along. So, I called to have them explain it. I got the quote and I couldn't understand because there was no breakdown of why I had almost $700 in out-of-pocket fees for a water heater. I don't know how many people I went through because I've called more than once about it. They just kept saying, "Well, that's the stuff that comes after. We'll pay for the water heater and so much of the service, but the rest of it is up to." They couldn't give me any explanation as to what the $641 was covering.

    I said, "Well, do me a favor and send me the cash out to the cashout option. Just send me the quote." When I finally got ahold of the actual service provider and they explained to me why there was an extra out-of-pocket expense because my house is old and things had to be redone, I got the quote and saw that they were only gonna give us like 500 bucks. So, I went into the system and accepted the new water heater service and the $641 out of pocket. I paid the service provider like I was supposed to right upfront. A week and a half later, there is still no water heater. The water heater parts never got approved. So, it took three weeks to get a freaking water heater. I was pretty upset about the whole thing, but it finally got done.

    My policy is pretty old, so there's stuff written into my policy that some of the newer policies don't have. Then, there's stuff in the newer policies that I don't have. Every time I call them, I got switched around to four different places. I was mad because nobody can figure it out. Overall, I don't have a problem. It's worth it to have the policy when it comes to covering that kind of stuff.

    Initially, my hot water tank was not working. My tenants were getting cold water. And there was water leaking from the hot water tank. I received a text message from my tenant at 11 o'clock. I submitted the claim before midnight. It was convenient and easy. Just waiting for the next morning during business hours for someone to call was great. It was worth it. I went there at my tenant and turned the tank off, called American Home Shield, and they sent Aaron out the next day. He came out to do the consultation, but it took him another day to come back out to do the service.

    He looked at the water tank. He asked me if there was still water. I told him no, because I turned it off. He said, “Right now, your tenants are not gonna have hot water.” But they already don't. So, I informed him about that. He asked me how old it was. I told him I bought it with the building, so I didn't know exactly. He told me, “We're gonna have to get a different tank. It's gonna cost this. And I don't know if I can be able to get out to you tomorrow. If anything, I can get to you next week.” Which was traumatizing at first, because I couldn't have my tenant without hot water.

    After he left, I got a call from AHS to let me know that he would be out the next day, so it was perfect. He had the tank in hand when he came out the next day. He told me he would be there between 11:00 and 2:00. He got there at one o'clock. He was able to do everything. Everything works great. I'm protected if anything was to happen. Because I have tenants involved, the last thing I wanna do is have anybody to go without the necessary function that they need for their day-to-day life. And who wants to pay the out-of-pocket cost? If you don't have AHS, you need to get it.

    My dryer was making a noise. The rollers on the drum were worn out. I did a claim with American Home Shield online and their site was easy to use. I told them what the issue was and they contacted me and told me who was gonna come out. I called the contractor and made arrangements with the schedule. They were good and they fixed the dryer drum for me. After the service, so far, so good.

    I like the concept of American Home Shield. But when you have a claim, it's a hit or a miss on the technicians that you get. I had coverage on two houses, Pennsylvania and California. I canceled the one in Pennsylvania. I had that for about two years and the people that came out couldn't fix anything. It took them six months to get to the place then they had to order parts. Some things never even got fixed and they never came back. The Pennsylvania Home Shield is very poor. The one in California, on the other hand, is pretty good and I had good experiences with my appliances. They got the pool and the air conditioning unit going. When it breaks, they come again. The electrical work is very good too.

    But the plumbing company is not good. I had a faucet that was probably 12 years old and it wore out. They told me I abused it, which was silly, and they denied fixing it because they probably would have had to replace the faucet. They don't like replacing things. They put old parts in that they got from other places and they limp it through. It's the same with air conditionings and pool pumps. They don't use new parts. If they can, they'll tell you you abused it. That's what I don't like about some of the technicians that have come out.

    My dryer was not working. So, initially, Sears came out, and assessed it. Once they got in there, there were a few other issues that they didn't realize were there. So, they had to come back a second time. It was very easy submitting this particular claim to American Home Shield. I received a text and an email with the contractor's full contact details. Generally speaking, the contractor comes first and make an assessment, and then they'd order the parts. Once the parts arrived at my house, I call them to schedule the next appointment, which was fairly prompt. It's within a couple of days. That was the same once they realized they didn't have all the necessary parts. They repeated that again. The repair took a little longer than it was supposed to, but they got it done.

    As far as American Home Shield, it's been good taking care of some of the bigger issues for me. As I get those issues taken care of, it gets more expensive every year for me. My monthly premium since has gone up. When I started, it was like 110 a month, and now, it's like 240 a month. But if you don't have money set aside specifically for big issues, then this is a good way to do it. I have had some frustrating experiences. Typically, it's over the phone kind of issue. They charge an incident fee. Every time there's an issue or you make a claim, there's a charge. So, there was a second claim on the same item that I was getting charged on and they were not understanding that it was the same thing.

    I have got my money out of American Home Shield and have been pleased with their service. I've had a refrigerator, microwave, garbage disposal and a cooktop replaced. They sent out people that tried to repair the issues. And when either the parts couldn't be found or repaired, the item was replaced. I was very happy with the appliances that were replaced, and everything met my expectation.

    The garbage disposal didn't work. It wouldn't come on. I went underneath and did the buttons. I'm by myself. I had a neighbor come over and he looked at it. He said, "No, you gotta have somebody come out." The guy came out and went through all the different things that we did. Even the little tool that you have to jiggle it here and there. And he said that it had to be replaced. He went out that same day on the service call. It took him 30 minutes to get the garbage disposal, and he came back. And another 30 minutes to replace it and checked it all out.

    When my cooktop was replaced, I ordered the right size and the vent because I needed the vent on the cooktop. But when it came in, there was a quarter of an inch between my ceramic tile and stove top. The guy told me that he would have to purchase a special tool to shave that down. He wasn't supposed to do it, but he would do me this favor. Because I was going out of town and he didn't want me to have to wait. So, he and his son came back the next day, and they shaved down a bit of it and the cooktop went right in.

    He had a problem with the electrical part because the new cooktop had a four-wire thing while the old one had three. So, he kept telling me he would have to get an electrician. Come to find out, all that was needed was to cap the extra one. But he made a big production of it and told me that he spent $189 for the tool to shave it down. I wanted to compensate him for that. He borrowed the tool from a friend. And his son told me this after he quit working for his dad. The only reason that he got upset with me was I called him back the next day and said, "I paid you X amount of money for the tool and I would like the tool. You said you wouldn't need it for whatever." I didn't know that he borrowed the tool. I thought he purchased it.

    When I wrote the review back to AHS, I did not give him a good rating. If I have to have anything replaced again and it requires that kind of service, I would never go with his company again. They were supposed to plop it in there and go, or not supposed to have to call an electrician on the phone and find out how to do something that was very simple. But he made me feel like he did me all this extra stuff. So, I wanted to compensate him for that, which I did. He cashed the check the same day. Other than that, I recommend AHS to anybody that would listen to me.

    The dryer got stuck in the middle of a cycle. I contacted American Home Shield by email on a Saturday, and I received a phone call that same day asking me to take a look and to see if I could help identify the kind of model we were talking about. I used the camera function on my phone so that the person on the other end could try to help me identify. She saw the front of the machine, she received the explanation of what I was telling her, and I saw the error code there. Based on the error code and all that, she was in a position to order the parts because it was as if we went right into the visit with that telephone call. She was able to order a part simply by interacting with me on the phone, which I thought was very good.

    I did receive, on Tuesday, an email saying, "Your part has been ordered and American Home Shield has approved it." So by midweek, I was contacted by them again, and they came in the following Friday with the part, but it still didn't work. They looked at the error code that still appeared, and it was the same error code. They swapped out the motherboard, but then, it still wasn't working, so they had ordered, upon leaving that first meeting, the control board. By the next week, they were able to resolve it, which was pretty quick. I was very happy with that.

    My experience with American Home Shield has been relatively hassle-free. I pay $100 when I go into the website there. That's sort of like the copay, and you plug it into their online site, and then their contractor gets back with you. On this dryer one, I had a good experience. Two months ago, I had a refrigerator repair and had a good experience with that, too. I was pretty happy with AHS. I've never really used these home warranty companies in the past, but I'm glad that I have this particular service. It's worked out and they've been responsive.

    We have three properties and they are all covered by American Home Shield. They're a very reliable company. We had one claim for our water heater with our property in Sedona, and the technicians were very helpful and respectful. They were able to resolve the problem. With AHS, you could call someone and you are referred to a licensed practitioner. Not all the companies are on the same level at times, but at least, you could give that feedback if they haven't met your expectations. But it's nice to know that all the company they're affiliated with are at least 90% very professional and do the job correctly.

    I have a rental home, so American Home Shield is taking care of the house, and it's a company that, so far, I haven't had any issues. They have good reviews and so far, every time I requested a repair, they've sent someone out quickly, usually the same day or the next day, and that's what I like about them. I had a recent claim where All Hours went to my house in Florida. My toilet didn't have a doughnut. The gentleman came in, looked at it, pulled it out, saw I didn't have a doughnut, and he quickly replaced it. He was in and out within 40 minutes. He was very professional and very courteous. My wife said he explained the whole process, why the toilet needs a doughnut and what's the reason for it and that it should never be taken out. So, I thought that's cool.

    I've had a contractor that they sent out to the house and they didn't do the right thing, but they were really quick on sending someone else and say, "Okay, I apologize that you're not satisfied with the technician. We'll send someone else." They sent another company out and it was the same thing. They talked to me about what was wrong and on the report they gave, it was not exactly what they had done and they were kind of lying to AHS. So, I told them. They were like, "Okay, thank you." Then we told them to send someone else and they did send someone else and they fixed it.

    The drain in the washing machine in the laundry room for the washing machine had a smell coming. I called in the claim and we received a text message from Mr. Rooter that our representative was on their way. They give a picture of them, their name, and their phone number. It also gives a little tracker so we can see where they're at and how close they're getting to the house. The tech came out and the issue was a clog that he unclogged. He got the work done pretty quick. He said if we continue to smell it in the next day or two, we could do a fog test where they send something through the drain so that they could figure out if there's a leak or where the issue is coming from.

    When I call in claims, it's rough. The hardest part is I can't understand their reps. They have a very thick accent and they're doing it the best they can but sometimes, they're hard to understand and I feel like they try to act like they know what they're talking about, but they really don't. When I called in and told them that there was a smell coming from the drain, they said they don't cover smells. Obviously, they're not covering a smell but they're covering what's causing the smell. That was kind of frustrating.

    Then, there was one time when I was talking to them and I asked to speak to a supervisor, because I wasn't getting anywhere with the lady I was talking to. She put me on hold and then she came back on the line and kept talking to me. She wouldn't get me somebody else and we ended up disconnecting the call. One of the last times they came out, there was a part of the repair that wasn't gonna be covered, but they couldn't explain to me clearly why they couldn't cover it.

    I've had a total of three claims with AHS, and all were handled quickly and no problem. I had a Polaris pool pump replaced and then, I had a couple little electrical issues that were taken care of. After sending in the claim, the contractor called me either the same day or the next day, and they were able to get out there and take care of the problem. With the pool pump, I had to wait for them to order a new one. But as far as the electrical claims, they were both fixed the same day. I've been very pleased, and I'll continue using AHS.

    American Home Shield has been good so far. It's helped us replace some items in the house, or at least get some things fixed that were about 15 years old or so. When the water dispenser in our refrigerator stopped working, the only way to replace the tube would have been to replace the entire door, and that was about a $600 job. So American Home Shield told us they could give us that money towards a new fridge, which was what we did. We also had a claim for our garbage disposal. It was 17 years old, and they replaced that within three days. So that was really good.

    We're taking over a policy and we had a difficult time trying to take over the billing. The reps couldn't understand when we were trying to provide them the paperwork showing that we have the right to be able to get the billing sent to us so that we could make the payments on behalf of the client. The only way I was able to get a human being to assist me was to find the Realtor who knew someone that gave me a phone number to call.     It's been a bit difficult to talk to people on the phone and get things done. Some of the technicians from the company have not been very good. I have told American Home Shield about it and they have heard me. But there have been situations where I have ordered a certain washer and dryer, but they don't go together. So I had to send back one of them and get another that was compatible. Because in my home, I have to stack them up. So it was a lot of pain for me. I had to give them a restocking fee to send the washer that I had to send back and then order a new one. But the more painful is communicating with them on the phone because they keep you on hold for a long, long time.

    The communication part is really poor. It takes a lot of time and effort, and their hours are such that only you can do that in the working hours. So it's like I have to take time out from my office hours and attend to it. Every time you speak to somebody, it's somebody new and you have to give them your whole history of the case, which is not pleasant at all. So I just hope if there was a way to communicate with them through emails, that would make my life very easy. I found them on Twitter and one or two problems that I have tweeted got some attention from them. That feels a little better in terms of going over the phone. But overall, American Home Shield is helpful. Once I told them that I didn't want this company to come and repair my things, they made sure they did not go back to the same one, which is great. But the one-time charge they take is a little bit too much. It's $75 for anything.

    The service has been good to excellent. 95% of the things have been covered, and whatever is covered is in the contract. There are a couple of contractors that are not so good. But most of them, they've been great to work with. Everything was fine. They responded to all of my needs. I sent in a claim for the garage door and told them that one of the springs broke. They called the people and then the people called me. They came and fixed it.

    I call their number when I submit claims and they write it up and I get a number. If I tell them I want a particular person, they would do that. It costs 100 bucks every time somebody comes out, though, whether there's anything wrong or not. But the tech I've had was great and personable.     The tech came out the next day after I submitted the claim. The contractor had to wait for the motor to be ordered, and the tech came back two days later. The only time I had an issue was the contractor cleaned out a line above my tub and rinsed it, and it clogged the line. So, I had to get a plumber, but American Home Shield reimbursed me for my fee. They made right on it. I'm glad that I got AHS. If anything breaks, I don't have a $4,000 air conditioner I have to replace. They would replace it for me. So, it's a peace of mind.

    FNA came out for my freezer, my dryer, and my washing machine. The most recent was for the washer, and it was a total. So, we ended up getting a replacement. American Home Shield's website was very efficient. It's pretty easy to use. I've used the website a few times for claims. I put whatever the appliance is, I pick the brand, I pick whatever the problem is that I'm seeing, and then I pay the $100 deposit, and they assign somebody. They say that if I don't hear from them within a certain amount of time, I can call them. I ended up having to do that with FNA. Almost every time, I had to call them first but after I contacted them, they were very quick.

    Before a tech comes out, I send them a picture of the serial number and model number of whatever appliance is in question so that they can make sure they have the proper materials. So, it's a more efficient trip. The guys from FNA were very professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. We had about a week where we couldn't use the washer. So, that was a little stressful for the family not having the ability to wash our clothes at the house there for a week. They sent the replacement money in a Lowe's gift card. It was a day and a half because it was on the weekend. It was a pretty quick turnaround to get it replaced. I was pleased with the whole process.

    In the beginning, with American Home Shield, it was a little questionable because there were some fine print that kept us from getting a previous refrigerator fixed and it seemed like they were trying to cut corners and save money. We almost canceled with them. But with the last couple of claims we placed, they've done a good job with covering it and doing what I was expecting from them. They made up from the previous transgression. Having the home warranty is good peace of mind. Paying the monthly fee is much easier than having an emergency lump sum payment all of a sudden. With the way that AHS conducted themselves in the past couple of claims, I would recommend them to anybody that does not have a home warranty.

    We had a claim for our washing machine, and Sears came out. They had to order a part. They replaced the part and everything went fine. Everything was taken care of pretty fast. They were great. Everything works fine. The other time we had to use Home Shield was for a refrigerator. They tried three different companies and they were all pretty shady. That experience was a nightmare. It took six months to fix the refrigerator. They kept passing the buck to the next company. The first two guys didn't know what the problem was. Then Home Shield got an appliance company locally to finally fix the issue. Those guys got it fixed right away. Other than that, we've been happy with everything.

    The same vendor that fixed the issue that we had recently came out originally on another issue that we had, and it took him two trips to try to fix this part which we knew was difficult and it never could be fixed. So, they replaced the whole appliance without question. That was nice. But when I called American Shield and spoke to the representative who was supposed to send me the correct vendor who could actually repair my machine, he barely spoke English. He didn't understand that this vendor doesn't repair this machine. And we gave that tech person the model number and name.

    He tried to do the best he knew how. But it doesn't help AHS when I don't understand them. And they don't understand me. It’s like talking to a wall. Why couldn't AHS get people in America who speak English? They sound like they're from India, because they keep calling me Mr. John, and I hate that. It's not my name. The tech tried, but he said he couldn't do it. I had to wait seven days for him to come out and tell me he couldn't do it. That's not good. So, I got on the phone, talked to another foreigner. I was more irate. I called another vendor who came out the next day and fixed it. I now got 10 days invested in this.

    I put claims in online and it's kind of a mixed bag. I like talking to people and I like knowing they understand what I'm saying because sometimes people don't really grasp what you need or sometimes you need to say a little more than the 200 characters you're allowed to put in. But being able to put in claims any time of day or night really quickly when I'm working or something like that is helpful. I kind of wish that I could do it either way.

    Submitting a claim with AHS has been quick and easy. Even if it's the middle of the night, you can get online and go ahead and post it. They have been very responsive and attentive too. For our recent claim with AHS, when you tried to turn the air on, only heat would come out. We turned it off and opened the windows and called American Home Shield the next morning. They said Myers would be out on Monday. The techs came out and they had to order a part. They got the part ordered, came back out and took care of it, and all is well. But we had to pay out of our own pocket for the Freon, $1,500, ‘cause AHS covers a little bit.

    I had an issue with my AC unit, the technician has recommended a full unit replacement. AHS has covered part of the service but is not covering the re-instalation of the wiring/tubing between the coil and the compressor, the vent and drain lines. Without those it is impossible to install the unit. Besides of not covering those items AHS is charging me $2300 for those, this should not cost more than $500. I've called multiple times requesting an explanation for the high cost from the service provider which told me that this is determined by AHS. I've also called AHS multiple times but they simply have no explanation for the cost. I've tried to request a cash-out option so I can hire another company and reduce my out of pocket cost but AHS has ignored my request although this is my right according to the contract.

    I am completely 100% satisfied with American Home Shield's service. I just go online, request a service call, pay their fee, and the guy shows up the next day, most of the time.     AHS can help you in a bind, but sometimes they don't want to help you. When I had to change my hot water heater, they put some modification into the house and they didn't cover the house at all. So, I had to pay out of pocket for those alterations, but I was happy that I was able to get my thing replaced. I also had to do AC work and I did a lot of repairs with them. The service is a quick solution when you have an issue. You call and they call the contractor out for you. But sometimes they try not to cover everything that's involved with them with the service. But overall, it's pretty good, especially if you don't want to do the work.

    I had low pressure on my pump, and it wouldn't even run my pool sweep. The contractor was gonna replace the pump on the pool then charge me a $150 fee. Because even though, allegedly, the pump is covered, they don't pay to cut the pipes and put it in, which didn't make a great deal of sense to me. If you've got a covered item, why wouldn't American Home Shield pay to install it? American Home Shield is consistent in their logic and what they do, but it's always a long wait and a bit of a job to get ahold of somebody. They never give us any information on the contractor either.

    There was a leak under the toilet because it was all wet. Kyle's Plumbing did not put the gasket in right. Then I had some water splashing out of where my washing machine goes into the hole. I don't know what the problem is, but there's probably another problem because underneath that area, it is still wet. I know the guy put that gasket on really well, but it might be another pipe that is leaking. I didn't reach out to anyone because I figured I'd have to pay another $100. The second time they came out was just a couple of weeks ago because it’s something that may have been going on for a long time because I've got dry rot under there. I really need to get the leaking stopped so I can repair what's going on.

    As far as the contractor, I was so impressed with them. He told me to put a heater on to dry it out underneath there. I've done that. I didn't know how long it takes to dry. It's already about four days, and it's still soggy and moist. As far as American Home Shield, what I like most about the service is that I've had a number of issues with leaking pipes and I even had a pipe break underneath the slab, and they were able to fix that. They just rerouted it to my attic instead of tearing up my kitchen.

    I would highly recommend AHS, especially if you have a house that didn't have any inspections done. I bought the house, sight unseen, from my brother's neighbor. Somebody told me that I don't need an inspection. I didn't get an inspection. We did a lot of work inside. We painted the whole thing, put luxury vinyl in it and then after all that stuff was done, then I've got the plumbing issues going on. I just had the appliance issue. A tech came today and fixed it, which is awesome. He was able to get in there and fix it. The only thing that I have to say about that is by the time I called American Home Shield and when it was finally fixed, it was a month later. Other than that, everybody that's been at my home has been very professional and very pleasant to talk to.

    I've been pretty displeased with the folks who come out to service our AC units. I find them unreliable and not great. One contractor always gets assigned and it is what it is. There was an issue where our dryer went out a year and a half ago and the service provider drove by the house and never stopped because they couldn't find our house number. They wouldn't come back and it ended up being a long drawn-out process of trying to get Home Shield to reorganize things. They wanted to charge me a second time for getting the dryer fixed. I was absolutely livid. Other than those, I've had good experiences with the plumbers that have come out. Also, almost every time I've got an appliance issue, Sears comes out and I've been really impressed by the service I received from them.

    Submitting claims online works really well. It's pretty clean and painless. Typically, they go ahead and take your copay right there and so it's all set up. I don't have to deal with paying the contractor and then, they come. Also, I'm in contact directly with the contractor. I had a claim where they had to come back out and they told me to go online and reactivate it. I did and they came back out the next day and made it right. Having AHS on speed dial seems to be a real benefit. I suggest it to my friends and family because they don't need to be paying crazy prices when their washing machine goes down. It's well worth it.

    My bathtub was not draining. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. A company came out, and they dumped a bunch of chemicals and then snaked the drain. It made the clog worse. So, American Home Shield had to send out a different company, and they resolved the problem. They did say that with what the previous company did, there's a chance that they may have caused a leak, and we have to keep an eye at the basement ceiling to see if a leak propagates. So, if that does happen, then I'll be calling the company and AHS to see if there's some sort of coverage for that since that was out of negligence of that previous company's work. Overall, AHS is straightforward to use.

    We had two incidents that happened side by side of each other. The first instance was our dryer. All of a sudden, it wasn't drying at all. I put in a request to American Home Shield for someone to come check and see what was happening. I got a call pretty quickly from someone that was indicating that they were hoping to get more information about it. I told her what was happening. She sounded like she was working remotely, and I could hear a rooster in the background that was kind of loud and interfering with our phone call. She herself was very appropriate, kind and super helpful. It was just difficult to hear her sometimes. She asked if she could do a video call so she could see a few things about the issue we had with the dryer. I agreed to that. She then did a video call. I showed her what was happening. She said somebody needed to come out.

    I had information shortly thereafter from the repair people. They were like, “Okay. We can be out.” We set a date. They came. The gentleman was absolutely amazing. He was kind, quick, courteous and clean. He fixed the problem in half an hour, and you would have never known he was here. It was fabulous. It was something that would have taken me all day to do. So, that was worth it. That company should continue to be used.

    In the second instance where we utilized AHS, I was charged twice for someone coming out for the same repair. I haven't been able to follow up because life has been chaotic as life often is. I just thought that was a little crummy. They didn't fix it the first time. I shouldn't be charged again for them coming out to fix it the second time, especially because it was within like a two-week period.

    We had an issue with our oven. We called Home Shield and they sent us some optional replacement suggestions. The technician from them first came and they said that it could not be fixed. It's a JennAir appliance and it's a higher end appliance. So, he couldn't find the part for that. They gave us an alternative. They had sent a few other appliances matching the original one. Right now, we are at a point where we are trying to find the exact match because we don't want to break the cardboards to fit the wall unit. The measurement part was frustrating. As far as AHS, they are great. When you call for help, they are very good about that. I have no complaints about them.

    AHS has been consistent in terms of providing warranty services. I had my microwave go down one or two times and they've been able to help me out. Also, I had sink back up that Wicker Installation came out for and they were able to fix it. They were very professional and I'm gonna use them again. It has worked out pretty good in my favor. I just want AHS to keep the price same and not raise it just because I've used it a couple of times.

    AHS has been very cooperative with any issue I brought them and the response time has been very good. Also, the techs have always done the work that was contracted and done it satisfactorily. On our very first night in the home, we had to call because we ended up having a water leak from our main bathroom down into our basement. AHS got somebody out here pretty quickly, was willing to work with the claim, and took care of it all. The only issue I have with AHS is with this latest claim that they are denying. They say it wasn't covered.

    I had a plumbing claim and the plumber that American Home Shield sent out stunk. The plumber charged 200 some dollars just to pull the toilet and they didn't turn around and bill American Home Shield for the work after that. American Home Shield wouldn't pay it so I had to pay for not only pulling the toilet, which I agreed to, but also the repair. When the company said that they had to come on and do a whole bunch of work underneath the house, which was gonna be another $800, I found somebody else.

    I ended up hiring my own plumber and that caused me to start thinking I need to change companies. But sometimes, when you're hooked up with somebody and you know what they do and don't do, it’s better than going with somebody that you don't know what they do. Also, I had another problem with two appliances and the company that came out was amazing. It's a matter of how American Home Shield figures out who they're gonna have come out.

    I always liked that when things break down, American Home Shield could fix them for me. Some years, I hardly use them at all but it's a good little insurance to have. Big items even it up a little bit. I've had AHS for a long time and I try to tell people to get that because they'll never know when things will break down. I had this toilet that was running water all the time and the contractor fixed that and replaced certain parts in it. The tech was great. He was very young, but very professional.

    I like the contractors that AHS send out. I recently made a claim for my garage because one of the screens broke and American Home Shield didn’t cover it. They covered it before but that was years ago. I just didn't look at my contract. So, I ended up getting a new garage door with another company. I didn't like the people that went out for my garage that much. They were in a hurry. I wanna ask them some questions and it just made it almost impossible. I called another company, Mesa Garage Door, and they gave me a good deal and I'm going with them.

    American Home Shield has been great. But we did not understand that if we had somebody come out and there was any part of the repair that included a replacement, it's not covered. We ended up paying for a plumbing claim because there was one piece missing and they were like, “Now it's a replacement. Not a repair." Also, we have a claim for the AC unit and it's been really confusing because there are three companies involved in this replacement. The replacement is not covered. However, RightTech, the company we're working with did let us know that there were discounts and we were able to get those. But when I spoke to American Home Shield, there was a lot of confusion with their intake reps. We have been going in circles for almost two weeks now between American Home Shield, the company providing the replacement parts, and the company making the service.

    American Home Shield has been great. If anything in the house breaks, we know it'll get fixed in a timely manner. You just enter a claim online and it's usually less than 24 hours they give you a company. Then, that company will call you to set up an appointment.     AHS has always been helpful and friendly. Recently, the freezer in the refrigerator wasn't working right. It was freezing up and there was ice in the freezer. Passion Service Pro came out and they couldn't fix it. They had to get a second opinion to see about having it replaced before they submitted for it to be replaced. Mars Appliance was the second opinion and when they came out, they determined that it couldn't be fixed so the refrigerator was replaced.

    I've had a fairly good experience with AHS. But recently, I've had several incidents where I wasn't satisfied. I had two issues. I had to have my food compactor changed to a new one, and I had to get my dishwasher worked on because it wasn't heating up and cleaning the dishes. But to me, those are both plumbing issues. First off, my bill has gone up from 50 dollars to $77 a month. Then, when I talked to the lady about it, she said I had to have two separate work orders for these two items. She said one of them was something else and the other one was plumbing. I tried to get more understanding out of her but she was very short and curt.

    The first vendor for the disposal, Pronto Plumbing, was awesome. The tech came in here and replaced that garbage disposal and was out in 20 minutes. He was very kind. The second tech told me that the reason the dishwasher wasn't working was because I wasn't heating up the water before I turned the dishwasher on. I said, "I've never heard of that." He said, "It's in the manuals." I had the feeling he just wanted to get out of here. I tried it and it worked a little better, but that's not the right answer. Last night, it started a loud whine when it was washing dishes. I'm gonna have to call him back out.

    Our washing machine had all kinds of issues. It was getting hung up. Then my dishwasher was retaining water. We also had an issue with a dryer that the techs said they fixed but was still not working the way it should. It was three different things, but it was one repair person, Accent Appliances. The tech came in and for the dishwasher, it was just a line that was clogged. He did that quickly. For the washing machine, he said, "Oops, I don't have and I may have to come back." I said, "That's not an option." He called another guy. One worked on the washing machine and one worked on the dryer. It was impressive. They pulled both those units out. But he had to come back out twice for the washing machine because it was a more detailed job, the dryer and the dishwasher worked almost immediately.

    I had a microwave issue before that they really bobbled. They kept trying to fix it. The guy would come out, it would work for 30 minutes after he left. It was something with the door. They came out three times and I said, "When are we gonna get to the point where we just talk about replacement?" But they wanted to send yet somebody else. I was really disappointed in American Home Shield. I was getting ready to cancel.

    But the great thing about having AHS is that, even if it costs, you can call and troubleshoot about almost anything in your house and not have to call around trying to find somebody that can fix it. It's a one-stop shop. Even if they just come and tell me what the problem is, they have the expertise and the bandwidth and the capacity with different people to come to figure it out for me fairly quickly.

    American Home Shield sent Budget for my plumbing claim. It was handled immediately and the solution they provided worked. So, we don't have that issue anymore. The tech was professional. He had adequate knowledge about the job. I had an issue prior to this one. It was the faucet in my upstairs guest bathroom. We had conflicting information about how to handle the scenario. They had sent someone over. The person misdiagnosed the issue, and they were talking about having to break our wall. Then, they weren't going to get to it until a week after. So, we had called to find out if we could get somebody else to come look at it.

    It was a struggle to go through the process and to get a pay out. It was a little bit frustrating that we had to go through that on top of not having running water that day. It was a headache to go back and forth and speak with different people that had different directions. Other than that, the issue was resolved. With having American Home Shield, it's really nice to be able to reach out, have somebody come check it out and everything be documented and having that guarantee that there's gonna be that support if there's a major issue.

    For the most part, doing claims with American Home Shield is okay. You go in and submit a request and things seem to happen smoothly. The challenge is if you need to change something or if you need to cancel an order. It's almost impossible to cancel an order. There's nobody to talk to in person. The calls get routed to the Philippines. Changing an order has proved to be very challenging. The pricing model is a little questionable, but it is what it is. You pay 400 bucks a year, and on top of that, there's a co-pay of 100 bucks every time you need to call somebody. So, I sometimes question the value of the 400 bucks a year. Other than that, having the service is convenient as long as everything works, and it has for the most part. It is fairly comprehensive, at least on paper. I've never had to use most of the services, but the coverage is fairly comprehensive.

    I was having an issue with my heat pump. I used the online website portal to file a claim to American Home Shield. Service One Air came out the next day. They were fabulous. I would highly recommend them and want to work with them again if I did have issues. With AHS, I have peace of mind and I do not have to do a lot of research to find a contractor or someone to come out. It's pretty much whoever comes up through the request that's kind of who I have, but fortunately, I've been very lucky with the provider. So, that took a lot of consuming research and all of that off my plate.

    In case something breaks, it's a lot cheaper to have the AHS warranty than having to replace it myself. I like their online booking and that it's easy to file claims. I recently made some for my microwave, washing machine, and air conditioner. I got the same technician for my washing machine and microwave, and he was awesome. The microwave was replaced and the washer was fixed. The air conditioning guy was good and quick. The air conditioner had a clog and it was fixed. For these claims, I paid my initial call fee of $100, then everything else was covered.

    I've been with American Home Shield for quite a few years and they have improved their service throughout the years to include a new program that they have. I like the process of submitting claims, especially doing it online. Recently, my air conditioner went on the fritz and American Home Shield offered a program where I could upgrade my system. So, not only was I able to upgrade my system, they also gave me a credit for what it was going to cost to have it fixed. For less than $5,000, I was able to get a four-ton unit inside and out. I have utilized them throughout and for what I pay a month, I've received more benefits than what I'm paying into. So, I tell everybody about American Home Shield.

    I've had a couple of other home warranties and one of the greatest benefits from AHS is that they get somebody out right away. With another company that I went through, I would wait a couple of days, not hear anything, and then they would say they couldn't find anybody in my area. Then they'd tell me that I could go out and get my own, pay upfront and they would reimburse me. So, the service from American Home Shield is so much better and with them, I've never had that happen to me. They provide quality service, exceptional value, and easy software to work with.

    American Home Shield is extremely difficult to deal with. They will go out of their way to not pay for an item. If we have a problem with one of our appliances, it's never an issue getting somebody out here to look at it. They always send somebody out and charge us that $100. The person comes out and tells us what the problem is. If it's something that's cheap to fix or quite a small part, they're great with that. But any time where the people they send out says, “No. This appliance is burned out and needs to be replaced," and that's happened three times, their response has been, “We can't get you that item. It's on backorder. It's gonna be months. So, the best we can do is we'll pay you half the cost to buy a new one.” It's a hit-or-miss as to whether you're going to get good service with them or not. You end up having to pay a couple thousand dollars to replace an appliance that you think is covered under their warranty.

    One of the compressors in the AC went out last summer. That was taken care of right away. But we had another claim where my son's shower decided to leak. It leaked through our kitchen ceiling into the kitchen. The person they sent out cut multiple holes in my son's closet, trying to look for the piping. He said the problem was with the shower pan. It was a whole tile floor thing. It was underneath that, so they couldn't do anything. American Home Shield said they couldn't do anything for us. They didn't even fix the holes. When we lived up in Virginia, our microwave didn't work. They sent somebody out to look at it. They said, “The heating element is bad. But because the item is so old, there is no way to get a replacement for the heating element. The entire unit needs to be replaced.” It was an oven-microwave combo in the wall. American Home Shield said, "No. We're not replacing that. The best we'll do is we'll give you half the cost to buy a brand-new one.”

    The first guy that showed up couldn't service my heat pump because it was a Lennox, a high efficiency system. They weren't qualified to work on it so they just had a cursory look. I had another minor issue with a plugged drain line. They took a minute and unplugged that then left. They said they would get back in touch with me and that they would recommend a Lennox trained technician.

    After about two weeks, that hadn't happened and there was some confusion between American Home Shield and that particular company about transferring the work order back to American Home Shield. They finally got that accomplished. American Home Shield went out to find another qualified contractor. They found one out of Richmond. They came, took a look at it, and discovered that all my freon had leaked out because I had a valve leak. They performed a leak test. They were supposed to come back and double check it. Three days later, they didn't come back.

    I got on the phone with American Home Shield about getting the work order transferred back. The second company they hired kept calling me, wanting to know when they could come out and repair it. I wanted to get a second opinion so I called a local company that specializes in my system. I had them come out and take a look at it. They also gave me an estimate for repair. Also, at that time, I discovered that I still had a couple of months of my original warranty left on from the installer, who was also the company I called. I decided to go with a company I was familiar with even though they were charging me $200 more. For simple things, American Home Shield is good. But if you need expert help, they typically hire the lowest bidder company. Everybody I talked to there was very informative and trying to be helpful but I don't have a lot of confidence in American Home Shield.

It's the customer service at AHS that is, most of the time, difficult to understand. They should have US-based communication so that people like me who pay these high fees to have the service done could understand the customer service people. But having them is a no-brainer. I save on any major repairs.
