There was something wrong with the furnace. A furnace company had come in and they turned the furnace off because of safety reasons. Then, I turned to American Home Shield and they sent out a gentleman. He said the furnace had to be replaced and they would give us a deal for a furnace and air conditioner since it's also old anyway for $5,000. We decided to go ahead and take them up on that offer and AHS paid close to $1,000. They did very well.

Last year, somebody was here fixing something else and our electric company came out because we smelled gas downstairs. He found a very minor leak in our water heater so I called AHS and the tech said the area where the leak was is not fixable. They were gonna have to replace the entire unit. When he took it out and replaced it, he said he took the water heater back to his job so that he could cut it open and show everyone what a 50-year-old water heater is. But that old water heater was a gem. If there would have been a way to fix wherever that tiny little leak was coming out of, I would have had it fixed.

AHS has been great any time we've called them. My only complaint is that they source out the phone calls to outside of America and sometimes it's very hard to understand them. I'm not expecting them to sound English but they're gonna have to work on making it so people can understand those who work in the telephone call centers more.

I was dissatisfied with the plumber that American Home Shield had come out here and do the work. I made a claim when my toilets were leaking and the plumber put new wax rings in and they did a lousy job. The toilet is still leaking and they wouldn't caulk them. They said that it wasn't required and it should be. Then, I had another contractor come out and look at my refrigerator ice maker and I am not having them come back. The tech didn't do anything because he said it had to be defrosted for five days. I talked to somebody else who said it shouldn't take that long. American Home Shield was responsive to my request and they got me scheduled but it's the people that they used to contract the work that I'm dissatisfied with.

Submitting a claim is easy but getting it resolved is another issue. I had a claim for my air conditioning system and it took almost two months to get the issue resolved. The first contractor said he couldn't change this item because it was a difficult item to change and he's too overweight and his other worker is too old. A second contractor came and he said it was easy and no big deal. Then, AHS took forever to approve it and I had to make several calls to get it done. They need to find a quicker way to get approval done when there's an item in question or when they don't wanna spend the money. What upset me the most is I pay my monthly fee to them with no issue. I don't understand why it took four weeks to get approval on an item that two air conditioning people had already said defective and needed to be changed. I was very unhappy with the service and I expect better service.

We were having a problem with the refrigerator and American Home Shield had somebody come out. But it wasn’t resolved. AHS sent out another appliance person and he said he was gonna get it fixed and he had to order parts. He didn't say what it was and how long it was gonna take. We’re waiting to hear back on the parts. I'm gonna follow up with American Home Shield to find out what's going on because that was a while ago.

Right now, we have the refrigerator plugged to an extension cord, going up to a plug that's not a GFCI one, running around the wall and going into the living room. I have two young children who are special needs, so it's not an optimal fix. This is the first time I've had any real issue and it's not even with AHS but hearing back from the vendor. I've never had a problem with American Home Shield. They've been very helpful every single time and the problem is usually resolved within days. It's always been very good dealing with them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. Their service calls are higher priced than my last one. They cover less. But I am paying this per month. We had a clog in the disposal side of the sink and in the drain and the contractor cleared that. It's working very well now. AHS sent a very good person out. I had another claim and I was satisfied with what the contractor did. They came out and did an air conditioning tune-up.

My washer was making a noise and the problem was very simple. A nut through normal wear and tear backed up and loosened up a pulley which was making all kinds of racket. But the tech had the part and he tightened it up and did a quick test. He was able to fix it in half an hour. I've used the contractor once for my refrigerator, once for my stand-up freezer and once from my washing machine. The technicians were extremely polite and professional. If they couldn't fix it, they told me why. They weren't trying to sell me a new refrigerator or a new washing machine. So, it was cool. The washer is working great.

The hardest part about submitting the claim to American Home Shield was trying to figure out where the make and model number was on my washer. I paid the $100 fee and that was it cost out of my pocket. Considering paying out of pocket, that would have been a $200 visit just for that person to come out and look at it. It was $100 with my freezer. I have no idea how much the part was that they needed to swap out. But there was no surprise.

They understood my situation and they worked hard to help me out. They also cleaned up and they did a good job. Submitting the claim was easy. There are two ways to do it. You could either go online and submit the claim or call in. I called in 'cause I like to talk to humans. Everything's been good with AHS. They do what they say they're gonna do. It's usually a day or two for me to talk with an assigned contractor to get on their schedule. It's been quick. J & K Plumbing has done several jobs for me through American Home Shield. My furnace broke down so American Home Shield sent a contractor out to try to repair it. They were proactive on telling me information that I didn't know to ask. They couldn't repair it, so it had to be replaced. American Home Shield paid a certain amount to get it replaced, but I had to pay for some wiring so I decided to do the upgrade to get a whole new HVAC system. With my furnace, I also got a central air conditioning unit. Part of my electricity went out in some of my rooms, including the furnace. When I called them, they were scheduled to come out right away. I called them at nighttime when I came home from work. That time they were scheduled to come out, we had electricity and the furnace started working so we canceled the appointment. They said if it happened again, to call them and they will come out.

I've been protected with American Home Shield since 2006. I cancelled my policy twice because of financial reasons but I keep signing back up with them. It's a good thing to have. You don't have to worry if something breaks in your house and you cannot afford to get the repairs done. Since I've been with them, I had multiple claims for the central air and heating. They had somebody come right out who were able to fix it. Everybody should have American Home Shield. The only downside is I didn't realize until someone that I referred to them told me that they have a contract. They didn't have a contract when I first started.

We had issues with our fridge, washer, and dryer. The first time Advanced Appliance Services came out, they evaluated the appliances. Automatically, I already had an issue with them because the tech was on the phone and making personal calls the whole time. He didn't even wanna be there. It made it feel like he wasn't diagnosing our issues. It was like he was rushing to get out of our house, which I explained to American Home Shield.

The second time, the same guy came out with a supervisor. The guy had to explain to him what parts to order. That was another wasted day. I have had to miss work numerous times for these things. He diagnosed all three things on the second visit and said, "These fridges are horrible. We'll replace the parts, but American Home Shield won't replace your fridge until it completely takes a dump." They came out again and spent all day fixing all three appliances. My dryer was an easy fix but he forgot the lint trap. He threw it out when he fixed the dryer. We couldn't do any laundry without the lint trap so we had to wait for them to come back again for that. For the washer, he said, "It's good. Do you wanna come listen to it?" I could hear it from where I was sitting and it didn't sound bad. But then when he left, the washer filled up then it wouldn't drain. He didn't fix our issue.

We called again because the lint trap was gone, our washer was still not working and our fridge was not fixed. A guy came back out and assessed the situation. He said, "I can't get ahold of the guy that originally fixed your washer." The second time when they came out to evaluate the situation, I didn't realize it was the lint trap that was missing. My husband said it was the vent. I gave the wrong information. The guy said, "I'll stop by tomorrow and give you the lint trap." But he never stopped by. When he came back, again, he said, "We need to order the same part." He double charged American Home Shield for the same part. They fixed it but it still sounds like crap. He said, "We don't fix the sound of the machine." I find that to be utterly ridiculous because why aren't you fixing the sound of the machine when I'm paying for the service? It's only three years old so it shouldn't sound like that.

They had called me to schedule the appointment for February 22nd. I always ask to be the late appointment because I have to get my daughter at 3:00. But nobody called me and nobody showed up at my house. Nobody called me even after the missed appointment. I'm not chasing people because I'm jeopardizing my job by taking off so many days from work. On the week of March 12th, a new appliance company came out to assess my fridge. The guy was here five seconds then said, "I'll order parts and we'll come back." I don't get how they assess something in five seconds.

At this point, I want American Home Shield to replace my fridge. I've paid the deposit to have these people come out but nothing has been resolved. American Home Shield is not doing anything for me. They've called me five times saying, "We gotta call them and see what they're saying." They've told me that five times but my appliance is still not fixed. None of the reps speaks English so it's very hard to communicate, let alone understand them and get anywhere. I'm frustrated because I'm paying for this service monthly and paid $100 for them to come out.

A guy from Tristar came out for my range hood. He looked inside, took a couple of pictures, went outside and took a couple of pictures as well. He told me they'd be back. When I logged in to American Home Shield, it said the service was completed. They charged me. I kept calling and they said they were getting the fan motor. Weeks went by. TriStar scheduled an appointment for installation but they were a no show. It was six appointments that they no-showed. I work from home some days, so some days, I was taking off and making sure I was home but they weren't showing out. American Home Shield fired TriStar and kept telling me they were trying to find somebody else. Finally, somebody called me from American Home Shield and asked me if I could try to find somebody on my own. I called a couple of companies, but nobody would come out. One company looked it up and the unit's not made anymore. I even called the manufacturer. They don't make the blower motor anymore.

I called American Home Shield and told them all of that. They said, "We need someone to tell us that it needs replacing or we can't pay you out." TriStar already said that it needed to be replaced. They just called it a fan motor instead of blower motor. It's semantics. American Home Shield is jerking me around for months. I'm paying for the policy but they won't do anything. I'm looking into escalating this. From what they're telling me, there's no way for them to service me. I'm in limbo. This has been since October and we're almost in April. I'm just waiting for the day that I can cancel because this is a policy that has no value. I've requested that they send me my policy documents in the mail, which they said they would do it in 10 days but they have not yet. We're gonna review and find out how we can go to arbitration or litigation and make a claim against them. It's not my job to find services to prove to them that the things that they're covering need to be replaced.

Our air conditioner died in July. I called American Home Shield and they sent Salyers out. It took them two weeks to come out. The way our system is set up, one side of our house has a heater and an air conditioner, and the other side has a heater and an air conditioner. Being the age that it was, they suggested that we get an HVAC system, which is all in one, so we did a little upgrade. The unit was finally put in in November. The guy looked at my husband when he was done and said, "It's all yours." He didn't test it. I have another issue that came up but I'm not gonna call American Home Shield on that until this one is resolved. We still owe them money and I told them, "I'm not paying you a penny until the final inspection."

American Home Shield's call center is overseas so they don't have a command of the English language. The rep never understood what I was trying to tell her. I wanted to speak to a supervisor who got on the phone but couldn't speak English either. We've had summer and August is one of our hottest months of the year. I'm in Northern California in Redding and it gets 110 in the summer. That side of the house is where the master bedroom is so we couldn't sleep in there because it was too hot.

American Home Shield's got good coverage but the issue is getting them to honor the contract. Anything that I do with them is a disaster. I should have cut them off when all this happened but they automatically take the money out of my bank account happily. They're on time with that, but they're not on time with the people that they send out. Their ads are phony. They don't take care of you right away. Also, the cost of doing business with them has doubled since they first started.

We've been with American Home Shield for four years now and we've had mixed experiences with them. On the positive side, they have replaced most of the appliances in the home in that four years. We're probably on a list where they try not to cover anything at this point. But I didn't know when I bought the house that everything was gonna break. Unfortunately, their job is to cover these things and they're dragging their feet with a lot of things. When the furnace broke, they did not take care of that and that should be covered. They claimed that that falls under fire insurance for some reason. But the furnace motor died and it's under AHS.

This recent claim is one of several cases where we've had some issues with them. I made a phone call, let them know that there was water damage on my ceiling and that I needed a plumber to come out and investigate that. They connected me with a plumber very quickly. That plumber then connected me with a water damage team. That water damage team came out within two hours of me calling AHS. My ceiling to my family room was removed. It escalated very quickly. It became an issue where they were working with both home insurance and home warranty. When the water damage crew came out, they said, "This water damage is in all likelihood from a plumbing issue that needs to be snaked in your main line." AHS had sent a crew out to fix this problem. This wax ring was what they kept saying it is now every six to eight months for four years now. Wax rings should last 10 years so there was something more going on.

AHS said, "We're only going to cover a leak because the representative defined it as a leak." I said, "I did not use those words. I used the words water damage." They said, "We will send a plumber out again to investigate the source of the water damage. We're gonna charge you another 125 in order to get that person out, but we will reimburse you within five days." It's been at least a month and a half now and I've yet to receive that reimbursement. I have called and asked about it and they said, "We never said that." I was told they record their phone calls. They were telling me they were going to listen to that phone call and issue it a second time. It is their job to the very least follow up and say, "Here's why we're not reimbursing you as we said we would." or something. It feels deceitful at this point. They were happy to take my money, but they weren't happy to help.

When a homeowner puts in a claim, they are responsible for saying specifically what the claim is for, which is why I didn't put the claim in online for this water issue. If I put in a plumbing claim online, I have to say that I know the cause of the issue. I have to be able to diagnose that. But if I accidentally misdiagnose that, then I'm out of my claim and they say, "Sorry. You put in a claim for a leak, but it's actually a blockage so we can't help you." It feels like there's a culture of deceit or finding that little loophole.

The first company that American Home Shield sent for the dryer that wasn't working was no good. But it's running like a Cadillac now because of the last company. I have a busy schedule and they based the visit around my schedule. However, California pays so much cheaper and I'm from California. We are getting the same repairs but why is our repair so much higher?

When we thought our installed microwave oven was completely gone, American Home Shield linked us up with Sears. Sears called me back the next day and set an appointment. It took a couple of visits because they had to get a part. They came out first and assessed the problem then they had to come back and fix it. We had a problem last year with an air conditioning unit outside that needed more extensive work and, apparently, it needed a refrigerant which wasn't covered at all. The freon was 900 bucks. I thought we were gonna be in good shape because we had the warranty, but I didn't understand the exclusion.

I had scheduled two appointments with them and I had to take off for vacation each day and they canceled two times on me. I told AHS they gotta find somebody else in the Cleveland or Akron Marriott that can come out and service this GE product. They found Mr. Appliance who came out and did a great job. I had the washing machine replaced.

American Home Shield is peace of mind. When you have a dishwasher, a refrigerator, whatever the appliance is that could go out, and if you could have someone come and diagnose it for $125, that's peace of mind. And that's a wonderful insurance policy to have. On the flip side, because of the last experience, contractors come and diagnose but they couldn't fix it because of something that is brand new to the world of codes and homes. First, I was happy, I would just call them. It now leaves a question, "Should I call them or shouldn't I call them?"

I called AHS and they set up an appointment for our water heater with a company. I waited for the phone call. However, I had to call them. It was a plumber in the area, which I was familiar with. They said they wouldn't be able to come out. It was almost two and half weeks. So, they decided to contact AHS. They contacted the next company. The minute I got off the phone, they immediately called me. They were very polite. They immediately set up the appointment. Confirmed it. They came out the next day. But they were not able to help us.

The water heater didn't have a valve that sits on top. It's called a reserve type thing. When we bought the house four years ago, there was no such a thing. The new ones have to have this reserve tank on it. The older ones for code in this area did not. We asked our neighbors. Nobody else has it. The contractor gave us a quote of 500 and some dollars. The water heater is 15 years old so we didn't want to put $500 into it if it would go out. I understand AHS. They wanna repair it before they fix or replace it for cost. The man was super nice. Couldn't have asked for anybody better. But I just spent $125. we felt deflated. We spent the money but it didn't get fixed. And we had to fix it ourselves.

We just bought a new dryer. We've had AHS repair the dryer twice but the dryer still isn't working. We didn't wanna spend another $125. We bought a new one. But Jim checked the tag on it and the dryer was 24 years old. That's the reason why we didn't do that. We could have had the same person come out, fix it, and six months later, we would still call them again. We might as well just spend the money on a new dryer. But we've only been here four years. It's a very nice home. But people wouldn't know how old the appliances are when they purchase a home.

We had a water heater that was broken since last year. We had called a couple of times until Apollo Plumbing realized that it was leaking. Every time they came here, they would say it was fine. They kept turning it back on. After they replaced it, it kept giving us an issue. It keeps turning the heater off. Finally, American Home Shield sent an HVAC company who told us it was not a vent issue. It was the water heater. It's very frustrating to pay $70 every month and every time a contractor comes here, I pay a 125 service fee. I started with a low monthly then it went up. My husband and I were thinking, with the copay and the service fee, we could have just gotten a water heater from Home Depot and apply financing from them. It's frustrating to keep calling. I asked if there are any other plumbers that could help us but was told Apollo Plumbing is the only one that's contracted under American Home Shield in Minnesota.

You're insured and if something happens, you have a backup. But seeing that I have to pay for a copay, I have to deal with the same company. I told them that I was frustrated and unhappy with the company that they always send us. They also don't do the 24-hour emergency. Our heater broke down in the middle of winter. My daughter takes a bath early in the morning so what we did was heat water in the stove for her. We're wanting to cancel American Home Shield and get a new water heater. It was the same thing with our washer/dryer. It was turning off in the middle of a cycle but the contractor said it was fine. Why would I call?

The water heater failed. I did my claim to American Home Shield over the phone. They treated me very well and I was happy with that. I was happy with the contractor, too. They replaced the hot water heater. It was during the freeze. So, there weren't that many plumbers available because everybody had frozen pipes as their problem. I happen to be an engineer. It was leaking badly and empty. We turned off the water to the hot water heater. I had them check it. They made sure there was no gas issue and they made sure that it wasn't a slab leak, that it was truly the hot water heater.

They came out on Thursday, and turned it off. Then I was asking on Friday, "When am I gonna get my hot water heater?" It's a small company. It's not a huge company but they were very responsive and the lady that runs their office was awesome. I went without hot water for about a day and a half to two days, and then they showed up and replaced the whole thing and it was fine. As far as American Home Shield, they have a list of ready contractors that they have already vetted. Sometimes stuff isn't covered that I think should be.

The fridge stopped working and after I submitted the claim online, we got an email telling us the company that was assigned to our issue and that they would be in contact within 24 hours. But the dude from Arctic Air, Joe, called us within 20 minutes to schedule an appointment. He was awesome. He knew exactly what to do and what to order. Multiple things have taken a dump and one was a relay. I told him I bought one but it's a cheap Chinese one. He said there was a recall on these years ago so apparently, the previous owner of the house never got the recall done. The relays burn up. He said I was lucky because this is the original one from the 80s and this didn't catch fire. After he replaced the relay, he got it all powered up and it turned on. But the control board wasn't turning on the compressor. He said it was super common. The compressor seizes up and then it overheats the relay. So, he got the new compressor and the relay in.

The temperature wasn't doing what it was supposed to be doing and he pulled down the control board. It was fried also. They're special order parts because the fridge is from the 80s but those came in within a couple of days. It was on a Friday though and we were having company that weekend, so I just asked Joe to come the following week. It’s working perfectly now.

I like that with American Home Shield, I have peace of mind that if there are little things like this that go out, it's easy enough to get it taken care of, even though we live out in the sticks. But people should read the contract carefully because there's a lot of stuff that's covered that I didn't know about. I didn't know that they covered leaking faucets and I already fixed the faucets myself. The packet is available online but I don't read too well, especially online stuff. So, my wife was the one who read it. She said all these I’ve been fixing are covered by the warranty.

Our initial claim with American Home Shield was for a dishwasher that was leaking water. I called them over the phone to submit my claim. It takes a while to get a human, but that's just the way it is. There is always the wait. You put your ear pod in and you're on your drive. You just hope you get done by the time you get to where you're going. The contractor that I have is a very capable individual, but they didn't have a part, so then they had to order a part. I had to wait for that part to come. Then once it arrived, then we had to reschedule again. And then they came out and put that part in. A day or two later, the leak was resolved, but the dishes weren't being washed properly and there was this much louder noise than previous, which made me call again.

When I called again, the initial person said it was a separate call and not a follow up call. He hung up on me. So, I had to call back again and talk to somebody. That person is a bit more competent because they said, "Oh, this seems to be the same issue. We'll put it on the same ticket." Somebody else came out. Once again, they looked at it, scratched up the floor, and they took the dishwasher in and out. They looked at the part and they said, "Oh, this is a faulty part and you need a pump." So once again, they ordered the part, waited for the part to come, called back again, scheduled an appointment, went back and made another trip, and then they put it in and then they take it out, put it back, and there were more scratches on the floor.

At the end, it finally got done. It's just it took many trips and they still have some damage from getting it done. As far as AHS, I know someone's gonna come. Is it gonna be the best person? Is it gonna be the best route to solve the issue? Probably not but at least someone will get out here quickly. I feel the coverage is great. It takes a while to get someone on the phone, but you'll get a contractor. If it's on the weekend, that doesn't work unless they deem it as an emergency. It might be an emergency to you but not to them. So, if it's on the weekend, forget about it and just wait until Monday.

Outside of that, you're gonna get a contractor and someone's gonna come out. Are they gonna overcharge you? Absolutely. I had an AC issue at the same address last year and they charged me $100 for Freon. I know that some of it is covered but the contractors also know how to get money out of the client. So, it's a double-edged sword. You get somebody but you're gonna pay for it in time and money. I'd tell others that if they don't have a good rolodex of quality people that are gonna come, then they could go ahead and get AHS.

    Charlotte: We're recorded.

It’s pretty easy to file the request, except it always takes way too long until the company calls. I feel like AHS doesn't have enough people in my area. They send an email or text that they've assigned somebody to the case but very often, it can take a long time until that person contacts me and/or until they're actually able to come. If you have a bathroom and a kitchen issue, somebody might not come for three or four days and God forbid something happens on the weekend. It's almost impossible to get ahold of anyone. Also, it's so inconvenient to remember when my contract is up and I'll get charged if I don't end it when my contract is up.

The last time I had a problem, I have one toilet and it was completely clogged. I used the app and about an hour or two later, I got a text telling me that they had assigned a company to me and that I would hear from the company within 24 hours. But when you have a completely stuffed up toilet, you can't wait 24 hours. I called the company and the company was a guy. I don't think he had anybody work for him. He happened to be out of town four hours away and he said he won't be able to get here for a couple of days. I called AHS on the phone and the rep said she would see what they could do. While I was talking to her, she had me on hold. She talked to the plumber while I was on hold and I got a call from him saying he would come home and he would take care of it. I had to really jump through hoops.

I had another the thing that kind of bothered me. About three years ago, my water heater went and it's one of the things that’s supposedly covered, but I had to pay a lot of money because they told me that the laws in town had changed and that a different circuit breaker had to be installed for it. I had to call an electrician to put in a separate line for it. It was over $1,000 that I wasn't expecting on spending. To me, if they're gonna replace my water heater and they're supposed to pay for the whole thing, that should have been part of it. They make such a big deal out of the fact that whatever is covered is completely covered, but in this case, it wasn't.

The people they use are terrific and when they come, they're very nice. But I live in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and they seem to hire mostly contractors that are in Orlando or West Palm Beach who take care of people in the areas where they come from before they take the trip up here. They have to have a slow day to even wanna take this trip. I'm thinking about looking for another company. I have asked them more than five years ago if they were going to be getting more contractors in my area and they swore they were, but they haven't.

I had reached out to American Home Shield multiple times but they never received a quote from the contractor. American Home Shield sent out another company and we were able to finally get a diagnosis. They changed our filter but we still have an issue when the temperature goes below 32 degrees. Apparently, that's normal for a heat pump. The first company that came out told us that there are multiple types of heat pumps and there is one that has an inverter, which wouldn't be able to handle temperatures below 32 degrees. That was what they were saying they were going to recommend. The next company told me they didn't have any idea what an inverter heat pump was.

I was with American Home Shield for a year. I was unaware that I had to renew the contract manually so it lapsed. I had finally realized that I wasn't paying for it. I called them and they said that it was never renewed. I renewed it again, and this happened so I'm glad I renewed it that time. But I'm not completely happy with American Home Shield. I never got a call from them with this last company that was there. I had to reach out to them two weeks later.

PJ Appliances came for the stove. That was their third time coming for the same issue in six months. I bought the house less than three years ago so everything was fairly upgraded as of 2018. I couldn't fathom as to why I had to keep calling for the same problem. I told American Home Shield, "I'll try to fix it myself or find somebody else to fix it because you keep contracting the same people. They're coming out and fixing it, but it's not saying complete. I paid for the price of the stove as many times that I had to call you to come out and pay the $100." I told them to give the cash to me so I could purchase a new stove. But we're still without a stove. According to American Home Shield, I have to have a new stove and it has to have a year warranty. I found the stove, but it wasn't a year warranty.

In September, there was an issue with the plumbing. American Home Shield contracted Brick Street Plumbing. These people came out and opened up my wall. We've been calling them and reaching out since then. They have not called me or American Home Shield back. I told American Home Shield, "After this, let's go to somebody else." I had to pay another $100 for another contractor to come out. That was unfair. It was not my fault that the contractor abandoned the job order. I'm not very pleased with what I had to endure this last year. American Home Shield should send out A1 contractors and when contractors don't return calls or abandon the job, American Home Shield shouldn't let it go past three times. After the first go-round, go to another contractor, and it should not be at the expense of the customer. Also, if I'm paying monthly, why do I have to pay 100 to have somebody to come out. I'm paying twice.

When my heater was making a banging noise, a repairman came and explained to me what he was gonna look for. When he got done, he explained to me everything that he did. They had to replace a part. However, recently, American Home Shield upped the service charge to $100 a visit. That's a little bit too much. I'm also disappointed in the plumbing situation because if I read the contract right, there are only certain things that they'll cover. They should have more coverage on plumbing.

When the customer service rep called on Friday to schedule when the techs were going to bring the appliance, I was told they were gonna be there on Monday. It was perfect and I took my day off. On Monday morning, the tech called us and said they wouldn’t come out in the area on Monday and they gotta come on Tuesday.

I spoke to the manager and he apologized. He said the lady should never have scheduled that on Monday. I said making the apology was fine but it was not covering the two days of vacation I gotta take on. He said he couldn’t do anything about it, which maybe not, but I got screwed out of a whole extra day of vacation. I needed to get paid so I had to use it, which I was saving for the summer. But it is what it is. Things happen but I was pissed off. I like though that AHS doesn't cost that much but it covers a lot. The price was very reasonable. They replaced the dishwasher, which was 400 bucks, and my policy was $150. AHS is worth doing to cover all your appliances or other needs you've got in your home.

It cost me $100 to have the tech come out here and the person on the phone told me to do that and I'll be taken care of. It seems like AHS is almost specific on certain things or they will classify certain things to not be underneath the coverage umbrella but would seem like it. And it'll still cost you money for them to come out and just see if what you need is covered.

The claim for the garage door was done within a week. We had a good young man coming in. I was satisfied with that. I also had somebody who did a cooktop. They came in and it felt hassle-free. But we had an incident where it took too long. We put in the claim in September last year, and it was done last month. I was calling American Home Shield 100 times every day, talking to customer service almost all the time, and following up with the contractor who dropped the ball on that. The part showed up, but the contractor took three months to show up.

Four years ago, we were in another house and had American Home Shield as well. When the repairman for the water heater walked in, he met my wife, assumed my wife was a renter, and kept on saying, “I'm gonna write a quote real good that the owners of the house will have to fix for you." My wife told me, “We can't use this person because he is intentionally overpriced.” We decided to go with a local plumber. We did not use American Home Shield. This year, we had the same water problem. The same guy showed up. When my wife saw him, her blood boiled. But we let him do his work. He said, “You're out of code. I have to put you back to code.” We just bought this house in 2018. How is it out of code all of a sudden when something breaks down? He was charging us 2,000 on top of what American Shield was taking care of.

We asked for a second opinion. Somebody came and told us we were on code and there was nothing wrong with our piping. We got a local contractor to do it and it was done within 24 hours. It feels weird when asking American Shield if they could give give us cash payment for us to do it. The amount they give is peanuts compared to the service that they could have done if the contractor was good. The customer service goes to the end of what they could do but it looks like I'm paying out of pocket more while I'm paying for home warranty. I don't mind bumping up a little if I need something of quality. I pay because I'm looking for peace of mind. When the peace of mind doesn't materialize, then we have a problem. When somebody comes in and maybe takes you for an idiot, that is unacceptable.

I filed a claim using the Home Shield website and I put a clogged sink. I wasn't really sure what the problem was and it didn't let me choose multiple ones. But overall, it was pretty good. I got a name and number of the contractor via email and then, I got a text from the company identifying who the tech was by first name and that they would give me a call the morning of or the day before the actual scheduled service call. Plumbers Inc. came in and it was great.

The coverage has proven itself to be useful. I've had five or six occasions where I've used them and it's been a godsend each time. But I've had a couple of issues where they assigned one contractor and then it turns out that for whatever reason that it’s gonna be another contractor. There were a little bit of delay on a couple of claims. Also, one of the other plumbers had to tear into my wall to get to the pipes and the coverage covered putting a new drywall and painting the wall but I suggested putting an access panel there instead. From a cost perspective, it's a lot cheaper than putting drywall and doing the whole thing. But they said they couldn't do it and it's not covered. They had to do the drywall part instead and it seemed inane to me at the time.

Filing a service request was pretty easy to do, although getting through the automated system sometimes can be a pain. We've only ever had to do it twice and it was both for a water heater. There was a leak at the bottom of the water heater and the first round was due to an expansion tank. It had wore its time and they replaced a part. The second time was the same thing. We noticed that there was a little leak at the bottom and they sent someone out again. They determined that at this point, the water tank was gone and that it needed to be replaced. We had to set up a follow up with the company and they were able to come in, get old heater removed, and put in the new one without issue. The upgraded it and all the different pipes attached to it to bring it up to code. Aside from the copay, there was an additional $100 charge just because of where the hot water tank was. They had to move the washer/dryer and some of those things around in order to get the old one out. Then, they forgot to fully process the claim but AHS was easy to work with. The rep called the company right away in the morning and got it all taken care of.

The first time the contractor came out, they looked at my dishwasher. They brought the dishwasher out. It was bent and they took it back. When they took it back, they closed the claim out. I was here thinking they were gonna bring me another one. After three weeks, I finally had to call back and American Home Shield told me they closed the claim. I said, "Wouldn't it make sense to bring me another one now? I paid for that. Don't you wanna give me my money back?" I paid the extra on it to get what I wanted. The rep said, "I'll have somebody call you tomorrow." But nobody ever had called me.

A week later, they drove up here with another dishwasher. But they said, "We're not allowed to put this in. You got a leak down there." American Home Shield had to send somebody else out here. He said, "This always happens. They always do that. They always say they can never put it in." I finally got a new dishwasher but it's hard to tell me how to start it. It didn't come with a lot of instructions so I have to swing it myself.

The tech said the chain was too long on one so he took some of it off and with the other one, he completely changed the handle. But then they had to come back because both of the commodes were still running periodically and unfortunately, I'm gonna have to call them again because both commodes are still running from time to time. But it's so frustrating calling AHS sometimes when you have to push so many buttons. It takes a minute or two to get to a live person if you don't know to cut zero. Also, I don't like the fact that the cost went up quite a bit. But overall, I've been pretty much satisfied and whenever I do reach someone, they are nice, efficient, and courteous on the phone.

I like the ease of convenience for the service call with American Home Shield. It is magical. The repair guy who came for the roof was lovely. He came out within a couple of days, just like the appointment setter had called me and told me he would. We got the emails and text messages that we were gonna have somebody come out. He introduced himself and said, “I'm gonna go up on the roof and take a peek. Where are the target areas?” I said, “Let me show you from the inside because I can't tell you from up there." He came in so I could show him the spots where I was hearing the leaking. He got up there, did his thing, and I met him at the front again. He let me know that they would write up a report and get back to us for an approval.

Within a couple of days, I got a phone call from the roofing company saying they had been approved the work order. We booked the appointment for that week, and it was fixed within two weeks. It was a couple of shingles that had come loose, and all it needed was some extra loving care because the roof was in good shape.

It was a pain in the neck when they had to come from Kansas. But with Kemp Heating and AC, they were here the next day. However, they said it was ductwork and not covered under American Home Shield. The repairman said it'd be about $500. The furnace was making a sound when it went off then nothing. Then it would run fine. I asked the repairman if it was dangerous. He checked for leakage and said that it wasn't showing any carbon monoxide. There also have been a couple instances where I was not covered. One was a breakage in a sewer line which was outside the house. That was $1,500. I realized that the amount of money that I pay for my policy, there has to be restrictions on what they will pay for.

We got American Home Shield when we moved to Paragould, Arkansas in 2019. It was part of the home purchase, and we were pleased with the service, so we've been with them ever since. We've interacted with their customer service any time we've had a repair, and they've always been professional and done a good job.

We recently submitted an online claim for our dishwasher because the detergent dispenser wasn't working, and the website worked well. We knew it was Sears that was assigned. In fact, we saw a picture of who was coming. The repair people were professional and knew exactly what they were doing. They were good folks. They installed the new dispenser they ordered and had in the house when they showed up, and now, it's working well.

American Home Shield saves me money. It seems like every house we’d go to, we have to have an air conditioner replaced. Our air conditioner experience in Paragould was bad, but other than that, it's been fine. I’ve told people that American Home Shield is easy to deal with and that it's 80 bucks and they're covering major repairs that way. People pay a small deductible, and there they go. The price is reasonable.

The contractor mentioned something about my garbage disposal. The tech said that was seized. But he got everything working. I got a call back from American Home Shield saying it's not something that they fix. I was confused about that because the tech fixed it. But I said, "I don't understand why it wouldn't be fixed because I don't know how to fix it."

The way he explained to me was how it needed to be done and needed somebody to professionally do it. But I wouldn't know how to do that. When I got the phone call saying the contractor would not be able to fix it, I was confused. I said, "They already came out and he fixed it." AHS' rep said, "Oh, okay. I wasn't aware of that." That was a confusing part. That made me question my future thing. That visit was odd to me.

Had the tech told me he couldn't fix it, I would have been upset because I had to pay the $100 upfront for him to come out here just to tell me things that they could not fix. I wouldn't have known until he came out to see. But I still wouldn't have been able to do what he did. And the thing about it online, it just tells me to check these certain things to see, which I did. But it wasn't working. I don't know how to do certain things. Other than that, the tech had good customer service.

American Home Shield sent Brick Street Plumbing to fix the toilet. They fixed two of them. The one in the middle floor was running constantly. After you flushed it, it would run and run. When you would jiggle the handle, it would stop. He fixed that. Then the one upstairs was leaking. He replaced the wax ring at the bottom. It’s not leaking anymore. He was really good. I liked him. He did a good job. As far as submitting the claim, I can either go on their website and request the service there or I can call them on the phone and request the service that way. Since I have a contract, they sent the person out, but I have to pay $100 every time they send a service person out. The contract pays for everything else though.

One time I had the hot water heater go out, and they came and replaced that. I only had to pay $100. They paid for the rest of it, and it was more than $100 to replace it. It was really good. I saved about $500. I've had AHS for 5 years, and I do like it. Sometimes I think I'm spending too much money on it because it's about $96 a month. So, that's high when you think about it, but if you had several things happen, you would save money.

They did help me fix my heating and air conditioning when that broke. They send a repairman out and if he can fix it by replacing a part or doing the repairs, then they'll do it that way. In my case, we had to replace the whole system. So, they helped pay for that but they didn't pay for the ductwork, and that was one of the most expensive parts of it. They replaced the garbage disposal, too. They're helpful if you ever have anything happen. So, I like having it. AHS covered everything I needed them to cover, but then I gotta pay the $100 fee every time someone came out. The price is not that great but the service is good. I would recommend it. The customer service has always been really good.

I usually call AHS when I have a claim but I found that doing it online was just as easy. The times that I have used the website, I've been able to navigate it pretty easily. Then, I'm usually given, at least, the name and the phone number of the contractor and they'll call me within 24 hours. But sometimes, depending on what's going on, I'll call them before they call me, just to make sure I don't get lost in the shuffle with them. Recently, the left side of my sink in the kitchen was leaking into the enclosure underneath it.

I submitted a claim with AHS and the gentleman who came out was fairly pleasant. He was there within a week of the claim. He was able to listen to me and take a look around to diagnose the problem. He was able to get it diagnosed fairly quickly. As it seems with this house, he identified some things that either weren't done right when it was originally built or if it had been repaired or changed before we purchased it, some things that could have been done better. And he went in there and fixed it up. He did it all in one walk and was only there for two hours tops. Since then, I haven't had any problems.

Having AHS is convenient. When something goes wrong, it works out much better for me to just dish out the $100 instead of the hundreds or thousands of dollars that it may cost to get something fixed if I had to pay the vendor directly. I've also never had a problem with customer service though the price has been creeping up when we renew. Despite that, AHS saves me time and money because it's a one-stop shop and I know what my price is going to be all the time.

He checked it, and actually, the outlet worked. My grandson thought he had put a plug in, and he said it wasn't working. So, instead of one of us checking ourselves, my husband said, “Well, let me just go ahead and call electrician, them to come out.” The tech did repair another outlet because that was loose in the wall. He tightened it up.

I like the punctuality of AHS. The contractors that we've had thus far have been good. I just hate that even though it’s something as minimum as tightening up the outlet, $100 still has to be paid. Also, the price went up $20 last year. It used to be $54. Now, it jumped up to $74.99. Still, AHS is a great service so far. We had our washing machine repaired, and that was great. We had a microwave that couldn't be repaired. I pay money every month. And when I have a service request that is covered, all of a sudden, they do a review, and they would start looking for fine print to exclude the item that I needed serviced.

The technician invented problems that did not exist. So, I had to go back to American Home Shield. And they got another plumbing company that came out to take a look. I have a unique kind of system for my basement. It has a pump, to pump up sewage and take it outside the house. The first person came in and said that I needed to change all of that. But the second person that came in said that I did not need to. He looked and said I didn't need to change the pump switch. Everything was fine. It worked. So, it was obvious the first person tried to look for additional business on the side because American Home Shield wouldn't cover the additional work he said that I needed to do.

I'm tired of waiting around for somebody not to show up and not even to give me a courtesy call." So, I got the $100 service fee back. Overall, I like that AHS has a lot of things covered. I don't like when I have to try and fight the coverage. A lot of things are covered, but then sometimes when I call for something, then they're trying to say it isn't covered.

American Home Shield's pricing seemed to be okay and what they offered seemed to be all right. The air conditioner was not cooling. They got a technician out here the next day. But it wasn't the greatest experience after that. The technician tried to tell me a bunch of things that weren't needed, stated that a bunch of things had to be updated to reach code. But when I asked what the codes were, they couldn't state what. They just said, "This is how it should be done."

I ended up getting quotes from two other HVAC companies outside of AHS. They came back and looked at everything. I didn't give them a prompting on anything. And they said, "Here's what needs to be changed. Everything else is fine." When I showed them what was said was wrong, they said, "None of that is real." They said, "This is a home warranty tech, isn't it?" I said, "Yes." They said, "They're just trying to get you to do work because they get paid too little by the home warranty." And when I called AHS about it, they said, "We don't actually check that stuff. If the tech says that's what needs to be done, we just believe them. We don't actually verify if any of the work that they're saying is true or not."

So, they offered me $200 to replace an entire evaporator coil, a $5,000 job. They said, "We only pay the technician $200 to do that work. So that's what we'll give you if you wanna just do it yourself." And I didn't trust the technician. They said, "You either go with this person or you take the $200. But if you go with them, you have to do the work that they're saying, otherwise they won't do the work."

They wanted me to pay them an extra $3,800 out of pocket to do additional stuff that would have just been superfluous work. They stated things, like I needed additional emergency overflow sensors. I already have two emergency overflow sensors on my air conditioner. It was a bunch of trash. AHS said, "We don't verify the integrity of the technicians. We just trust them. So if that's what they say, that's what they say. And you can either take it or leave it."

I took the $200. I went to someone else. I got someone that I felt more comfortable with to do the work. It cost me out of pocket. And I decided I'm not gonna renew with American Home Shield after the end of this year. AHS was fast to get someone out here. But they do not do a great job vetting their network and following up afterward. They had somebody come look at it. They had an offer to get it fixed. But overall, the experience was negative.

I needed a new furnace and the contractor did not put it in. It was a very bad experience. I got American Home Shield's customer service people, but they couldn't do anything about it. I paid out of pocket for the entire project instead of Piedmont Mechanical doing what they were supposed to do. Piedmont Mechanical would charge me $1,500 additional to what they would get from AHS. I was out of the country. I had no choice but to agree to pay it. They came and looked at the job, and said I needed to move walls and get things done. That would cost me at least another $500 to $1,000. That would have been $2,000, plus AHS pays them. I got so frustrated. I was able to get the guy who maintains that place for me to go in there, put in a brand new unit without moving any walls for $2050. When I call AHS, I couldn't get any relief from them. I intend to drop my entire AHS.

I don't like American Home Shield, but I wanted to get coverage because I'm by myself, and being a single female trying to fix things in my home, it's hard when I don't know everything. So, I got the services just in case something happened. The last time I got services from them, the provider that came to my house didn't give me the correct information from American Home Shield. I didn't know to ask AHS, but I thought the people would know the information. Or they told tell me the information but they told me the incorrect ones.

People come out. They feature things. But if you have a name brand item, like I had a garbage disposal name brand, when they came out, they told me that I couldn't get that same one and I would have to pay more to get that. It just had to be the same power of the item. So, I was upset about that. I had one half horsepower. And I had a good brand from Home Depot. The servicer who came out said, “You can get the same one. You just have to pay more of the difference.” Whatever the customers have in their home, it should be replaced the same exact one instead of an off-brand which in less than two weeks, was damaged, and they had to come back to replace.

I called American Home Shield and they sent the contractor out for my washer and dryer, and dishwasher. However, the contractor scheduled me unknowingly. They automatically scheduled me, and the tech was, “We're coming to your house.” I said, “You guys didn't confirm or talk to me. You guys don't make my appointment. You guys have to contact me to make an appointment first.” I was upset about that.

It was one guy and it was his own business. It didn't seem like he knew some stuff. I saw a part that he ordered for my dishwasher from Amazon. It made me want to go to either a bigger company or to get services. I wouldn't use them. But he had to come back and rescheduled another appointment without talking to me. I said, “I have to reschedule.” Or something happened where he was outside my house, and he said, “I'm outside your house.” I said, “I'm not there.” He was frustrated, and I said, “We can reschedule, because I didn't schedule this initial appointment.” I even left a review on some app, but I said, “You have to call people in advance. If there's a big window for people to come, you still should call them, and that's what I actually requested.” I asked for them to call me 30 minutes prior to them coming.

I was 30 minutes out, I said, “You gotta let me know that you're on your way.” He said, “This is your scheduled time from 8 to 12, so you need to be here.” Every company either called me and said, “I'm on my way,” and even if I requested it, some people wouldn't request a call. But some people do it as a courtesy. But I requested, “Can you call me prior to coming, 30 minutes?” He said, “Yeah, sure.”

I don't wanna use them next time because I don't know what parts they use to replace stuff. A total of three men came to my house. One was the person that owns the company and he had somebody with him that oversaw, but looked like he was his friend. And the next time he came back to bring the part, it was somebody else that came. It doesn't look like a company to me. Also, I'm paying too much. It keeps going up every often. I might look for another service for appliances.

American Home Shield is easy to work with. The initial issue was the thermostat and it wasn't heating or cooling. The tech put in a thermostat that I didn't like. He took out an expensive thermostat and put in a cheap, $10 one. He said he cleaned the place in the main unit and that seemed to have taken care of most of it. I am getting heat now. I still don't like the thermostat, but at least I'm getting heat.

What I didn't like about customer service was I received a stupid letter talking about abuses to the system. But I never touched the thermostat. So, I didn't know what the letter talked about. Also, I'm in an area that was a new development and all the houses had some rats and mice in them. I haven't seen anything like that in more than 10 years. And I guess it had some where the rats tried to get water and the tech complained about that as well. I didn't like the way that he handled the situation. I called AHS to cancel the program. The rep solved the problems for me. So I told them, "Okay, we'll give it another try." But I thought AHS was a good company. I noticed that they are not number one anymore. There are four other companies ahead of them, which is what I would change to.

We had an LG washer that was older than 10 years and the door locking mechanism started to go bad. It wouldn’t start the load because it couldn't lock. American Home Shield got an appliance repair person to come out from ACT Appliances and it was a bad experience. The guy didn’t speak English so he was using Google Translate to communicate with me. The first time he came out, he was able to reset the machine to get it going again and it worked for maybe a couple of loads but it ended up producing the same error. So, I called AHS back and told them the washer was still doing the same thing. So, they contacted the same appliance repair company and sent the same guy out. I explained that whatever he did last time, it didn’t work. There was something wrong with the locking mechanism of the door.

Before the guy came out the second time, AHS told me they were gonna order a part to repair the door and that they would have communicated that with the repair company. But that didn't happen. When the guy showed up, he didn't know anything about a part that was ordered. And he looked at me like I was stupid and reset the machine again. I asked him to show me how to do that and he was again Google-translating and using sign language to talk to me. He said I needed to unplug the machine, let it sit for five minutes and then restart it, and it should work. We tried that but it didn't work. So, at this point, I didn't know what to do.

I called AHS back a third time and told them not to send that guy if they are gonna send another person out because he doesn't speak English, he doesn't fix the problem and he looks at me like I'm stupid. I was adamant that I didn't wanna work with the same guy again and they said that they were gonna speak to their manager and make sure someone else would come out. The machine was never fixed. I even tried to call the manufacturer directly but we just got an automated service for troubleshooting. There was no real person you could talk to. So, it was very hard to do any sort of in-person troubleshooting with that company. At this point, I don't wanna deal with it anymore because we've been going back and forth for about a month now. I have to take my clothes to my parents’ house to get them washed so my husband and I decided to get a whole new washer.

This is the first time I've ever used AHS for an appliance situation and I have read reviews that they're not as good for appliances. But we’ve used them for AC repair before and they managed to save us a lot of money. We had several AC companies come out and give us quotes on new systems and AHS was able to stretch out the use of our AC system, which is nice. But I would not use them again for general appliance repairs. AHS is quick to respond to initial service requests. They have a very good system for that. But if you're gonna submit a request for a general appliance repair, I wouldn't go that route. I would reach out to just a general appliance repair man or the manufacturer directly to see if there's someone else they can use.

The garbage disposal wasn’t working. When you hit the switch, it wouldn't do anything. The tech came out to evaluate the disposal and went under it. He put an Allen wrench under it and moved it. The second time, the tech repeated the same thing. And after he left, it never worked. Finally, the third time the tech came out, I told him I didn't know what he was doing. My wife is just like most women. If it's supposed to work, it needs to work. And when he left, we didn't even use it. We went to check it and it was not working. So it's defective. They finally replaced it after coming out and telling us to put ice down there and clean it. It was the same guy each time and he was aware of what was going on. He did his job the best he could but it was inconvenient.

I get off work after 11 o'clock and I tell them I’m available after 11 o'clock. They would call me at 9 o'clock and ask me if I could make a 10 o'clock appointment. It fell through one time doing that. Their times would change. And they don't do things on the weekend unless it's an emergency. So, it was a little difficult. But I like most about American Home Shield the ability to call somebody and they know who to call to get what I need done. I don't have to search around and try to identify whoever I need. Everything that I've had any need for was resolved in a timely manner and all the various companies who have come out for the different types of aspects have been professional and friendly. If it wasn't resolved the same day and required a part of something, I was contacted when the part became available for them to follow up and come back to resolve it. Filing a claim is easy unless you already have one that's still open and pending. It kinda gets a little confusing and I did end up having to call in. Also, when you submit a claim, they ask upfront what you're filing a claim for and they ask for that particular appliance's model and serial numbers. At that point, it should make it easier for them and they should come prepared. If I'm telling you what's wrong, I would think that you will come with the general parts for that particular component of whatever the appliance is so that they would cut down on having to "order parts" or something like that. That should expedite the service claim.

The only thing that I would have an issue with is if a contractor doesn't clean up behind themselves. When the dishwasher was repaired, my family took out the racks and once the contractor was through with the job, I guess they didn't feel they should put it back but I felt like they should because how do you know everything is working unless everything is back in place? Also, other than the monthly premium that I pay, I have to pay a $125 deductible for each occurrence no matter what it is. It could be something as minor that I could fix it myself for a few dollars.

But another good thing about American Home Shield is I could have up to three items in one claim. If the dishwasher, icemaker, and stove act up all at one time, I'm paying the 125 deductible but the technicians are going to resolve the issue with those three things. So, it's a wonderful insurance to have, especially if you're like myself -- a widow with nobody to be able to fix things, as long as you're able to afford the monthly premium and co-pay. It's better to have it and not have to use it than to be in a situation where you need it and don't have the American Home Shield service. Based on my experience with them and the whole purpose for it, I would highly recommend it to anybody who owns a home.

My most recent claims for a heater fan and a low-voltage wire were not covered. But AHS sent somebody out to my house. I told the guy who came what was wrong with it and he was only here for two seconds. The fan wasn't covered because it supposedly wasn't normal wear and tear. I called American Home Shield to ask why the wire wasn't covered and they just kept saying it’s not run by electricity or gas. That bothered me because voltage is electricity. The reps don’t speak good English so, maybe they didn't understand me. I asked for a supervisor and the rep said nobody was there at that time. So, my last experience with AHS was very bad. But the two before that between my mother's and mine were good.

You have to be on it because AHS tries to not cover certain things. So, I usually try to figure out what's wrong with my stuff before I call. I asked my pool guy what was wrong and he told me the exact parts and what was wrong. So, I wish I didn't have to pay $100 to find out it's not covered when I knew exactly what was wrong. So, if you wanna get AHS, it's a great thing if they cover it. But do your investigation to see if it's gonna be covered and try to speak to a person and not a robot when you're making a claim and they take your credit card.

We had a leak issue, which was what drew us to our most recent claim to American Home Shield. We changed the water valve on our water heater and it started to leak. My partner installed it, and within about a week, it started to leak again. So he said, "Well, rather than me touch it again and really mess something up, just call AHS." So, we did. The technician came in. He was really nice and focused. He listened to what I had to say. He understood what the issue was, and he immediately resolved it. The situation was that my partner didn't tighten the valve well enough. It was no longer leaking from the front of the water valve, which is where the initial leak started for us. That indicated that the unit has somehow been undermined. So, this gentleman turned it, twisted it, and moved it further into the threads, further into the machine.

He sat there for a couple minutes. He vacuumed up some pre-existing water that was on the floor and he watched it. Then he said, "Well, I'm gonna go to my truck and create an invoice for you. And then when I come back in, we'll look at it again to make sure nothing is leaking." And he did that. He went to his truck for five minutes, created an invoice, came back, got down on his knees again, used the flashlight, observed the unit to see if anything had changed, and it was completely dry. We've not seen a drop of water since.

When I called American Home Shield, I got entangled with the electronic voice control system. It was giving me a whole series of options and I kept saying, "I'd like to speak with an agent, please." The machine went through the process and set an appointment. I called because I had previous experiences with some other plumbers that AHS assigned to projects, and they weren't good. I've learned that I can't just log in online and do it electronically on my own, which is what I prefer. But for this particular situation, I had to speak with an agent, and then they can override if the system is giving them someone that I don't want to interact with. Then they can find another service provider. Ultimately, the voice automated system scheduled an appointment with the very company I never wanted to ever see again. I stayed online on the phone until I got through to an agent, and explained to them what had happened.

I needed a new hot water heater, specifically on American Home Shield's end of things. I brought out a plumber before I became insured with American Home Shield. I was told I needed the hot water heater replaced. Home Shield sent out another plumber, and they told me I didn't need one but it was clearly leaking. I called and coordinated that. I was like, "Hey, it's still leaking. They got it wrong." So, they sent out Steven A. Mills free-of-charge. They were super kind. They did accidentally take my ADT water sensor for my home security. I'm currently coordinating with Steven A. Mills to replace that, and that's been easy, too. I set up the original appointment online, but I have a point of contact here in the local area. So when things went awry, I just hit him up and said, "Hey, can you help?" So, he did. I've recommended AHS to multiple people. For the price that it is, even the 130 copay to bring somebody out, it's still cheaper than replacing the item yourself.

The heater outside had thick frost in it and somebody came to take a look at it. The tech said it was normal when it gets too cold like it did that night so there was nothing wrong with the pump. I asked him questions about my thermostat because I couldn't see an emergency heat option on my thermostat. He had to Google search to see if he could set it up on my thermostat and he said it was not an option on the kind of thermostat that I had.

A few months after Covid, there was a leak in the shower that’s connected to the master bedroom and American Home Shield sent a contractor. I have two showers, one for cold and one for hot. The guy said it was better if I had just one valve because that’s what people have nowadays. I said okay and he started giving me a quote. He said it was gonna cost $700 out-of-pocket. I said American Home Shield’s not gonna pay for that and I don't feel comfortable. But by that time, the tiles were already damaged. I requested another contractor and I didn't get charged for that by AHS. The second guy didn't seem to know what he was doing and it made a bigger mess. He didn't fix it. So, AHS called another one. On the third one, I ended up paying more than my service fee of 125.

As a lesson from that, I just learned to Google first the contractor that AHS is gonna send. I have to choose because that's my money that I'm paying them. But it's not AHS' fault. It's also my fault because I didn't complain about the second contractor. It was COVID and I could tell he didn't know what he was doing and I was afraid he was gonna lose his job. I said I'll just get another contractor. So, I had to pay another service fee. And after the plumbing was fixed, I had to get somebody to fix the tiles.

Because I live in a condo, I’ve seen plumbers’ trucks come and go. I know the ones that are on TV. The customer service representative was telling me about the different contractors before I finally agreed on one contractor and I told the rep to at least get contractors that I am familiar with. I’ve never heard of the contractors that they were saying. So, I don't feel comfortable because I don't rely on Google search 100%. I've heard that there's another company that's cheaper, but I've been with AHS for four years. Usually, companies are just cheap in the beginning and then they slowly start jacking up their rates. So I stuck with AHS. It's all gonna even out in the long run. It would be nice if the price would be cheaper, but I understand everything has gone up.

It's supposed to be on review regarding when it would be fixed. But AHS responded to my calls for somebody to come out here. The techs didn’t talk as much but they were professional. Even though I don't have a solution, at least they're working on trying to get a solution completed. A lot of times, people get upset when it doesn't happen. We're frustrated because they keep sending someone out and they do the same thing and it's still not working. But as long as they keep addressing our issues, then we can go from there. I don’t like though that when I called outside of 30 days, I had to pay a portion for a second service call. The microwave wasn’t fixed before and AHS sent somebody out and it happened on Day 31. It was still the same issue but they wanted me to pay.

The contractors that they've sent have been fine. But sometimes it's hard trying to get fulfillment of particular contractors. I have to make a phone call out to figure out what the status is. When I was having some issues with my washing machine, I put a request in and they assigned someone. But I didn't hear anything back for a week. I called in and said that I haven't heard anything. They tried reaching out and they also didn't hear anything. So they reassigned me to someone else. My biggest issue is making sure that the availability of a contractor is there before you assign them to a consumer. Because my impression was if I'm doing this on a Monday, I should be hearing back from them on a Wednesday. Not having to reach out now a week later to figure out why I haven't heard anything.

From start to finish, it took about two weeks to fix the problem. Once the contractor got there, it took about five days because a lot of it was ordering parts that weren't readily available. The washing machine has been doing good, so far. But when I had a claim for the dryer, I had to put out three requests in a matter of six months before they replaced the entire thing. Before they did that, they would come out and replace the heating element. It would fix it temporarily. But the heating element would go out. We had to put in another service request to have them come out. You have to pay that fee all over again because now you're outside of the timeframe. We went through that three times.

For the new refrigerators now, the manufacturers require the installers to have a certain type of valve above the floor. So we had to find our own plumber to sit there and put that valve in. Because when the contractor came out, they refused to deliver and install it because we didn't have the appropriate thing. But we were never told this by American Home Shield at the time that we were discussing it. So this last fulfillment portion for our fridge was the worst of it all because we're already paying high for the home warranty, and then we have to shell out more.

A company came to evaluate my microwave, but it kept shorting out. They changed the fuse multiple times while I was here and it would run and then go out. They left and the next day I tried to use it and it wouldn't come on. So, I called that company back again. They said they were gonna send someone else out to change more fuses. So they changed more fuses and it worked. But I said that I wanted them to fix it to that it wouldn’t keep shorting out because something was wrong. When I bought it, it wasn't doing that so I needed them to put it back like it was. The guy said that it’s just after they get so old, they'll just keep shorting out. I told them that’s not how it’s supposed to work. They’re just making it turn on but it’s not fixed.

I used it once and it shorted out. I called them back and they said I would have to call American Home Shield because they took over. They said AHS closed it out and it had nothing to do with them. I know better than that. AHS will not close it out unless the contractor put it down that the job was completed. I talked to a lady supervisor and she said it won’t happen again. She told me to call AHS and they would come back out and fix it and I won’t have the problem again. So I did that and AHS reopened the claim.

The original guy, a supervisor, came out to fix it and he said I can’t open it while it’s running. He said something and he was talking about the fuses again. And I told him to just fix it. He got rude and threatened me verbally about giving me a review to where they wouldn't fix it nor replace it. My husband has reminded me of exactly what he said. He can say it's not normal wear and tear. I said the guy couldn’t do that because even if they give a shoddy review, AHS is gonna have to send someone out here for a second review, and it's just gonna make them look worse. And it was more back and forth. The guy said he was gonna replace the door latch and some fuses but he took the parts and left. He never came back and told American Home Shield that it was not normal wear and tear. He never saw me open the door but he said I was pulling down on the door when opening a door and that's what made it mess up.

We have the paperwork showing where he said that he was coming back and what he was replacing. I called that company and the lady said the guy couldn't do that. I told her what happened. She said they were gonna call American Home Shield and tell them to send someone else out ASAP. They didn't do that either so I talked to American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They sent Anthony's TV & Appliance out and the repair guy looked at it and found parts that were missing and parts that were broken inside. It was nothing dealing with wear and tear. It could be fixed, but it was gonna cost too much money.

The other company broke it but what needed to happen from the beginning was just a latch and to adjust the door. The first company screwed it all up, broke stuff and took parts, and didn't replace it. They also did not put the microwave back up on the wall like it was supposed to. So Anthony's did a great job. But that company before Anthony's was horrible.

It's hard to get to someone who knows their job until you get up to management. They do not take notes so you have to repeat yourself constantly with different people in the organization and then, they don't understand. AHS has good coverage compared to the other places. It's just getting the right people to come out and then getting the right people to talk to that know the company. I would recommend AHS but people have to jump through hoops to get service sometimes. And that's just how it is. They just hiked up the price tremendously from 120 to 160 a month and they just dropped the coverage for everyone across the board. I am gonna be looking for a different company to go to.

Progressive Appliance and HVAC Repair was horrible. I told them my broiler hasn't worked for quite a while. The first time a repairman came out, he said I needed an igniter. When he did his report, he said there were a bunch of things and something that wasn't gonna be covered by American Home Shield. American Home Shield told me that cost would be $168 out of pocket. I kept trying to get ahold of Progressive but they don't answer their phone and the mailbox is always full. Out of the two months that I went back and forth with them, I talked to one lady three times and she kept telling me she didn't know how American Home Shield got $168 out of pocket cost 'cause it was gonna be over $500. She said parts are very expensive then there was the labor. I told her American Home Shield covers the labor. She said not on all cases.

They try to gouge people. At first, I thought they were working with American Home Shield to say there are things that aren't covered but I don't think it's that way. The woman that I talked to was very rude. The last time I talked to her, I blew up. I told her they were liars. Even when American Home Shield tried emailing them and calling them, they didn't respond back. American Home Shield finally got another company to come out and they had told me if they found the same thing wrong with my oven that Progressive found wrong, I'd have to pay another $100. But they found something different. All I needed was a new panel for the top part where you press to turn on the oven. I got my oven fixed three days ago and didn't have to pay a penny.

American Home Shield waits too long to get to the problem. Calling them, you can never understand the people you talk to. I'm still waiting for my microwave to be fixed and it's going on two months on that. This is done through Sears service. They can't find the parts for it. My microwave is only two years old. I also don't like that American Home Shield says lot of things are abused. The handle part on my kitchen faucet was wobbly, and they said that was abused from slamming it down. Additionally, a lot of things aren't covered. I took out the warranty for my roof. When I had leaks, a guy came out. American Home Shield said it would only cover $1,400 of it and I'd have to pay an out-of-pocket of 1,800. I was supposed to get at least $1,000 back, but it's all the paperwork. I never got the thing to email to fill out to get that cash back so I just gave up on that. They go with crappy companies too. They take the lowest bids.

I needed a water heater and the techs came out and lit it when it was snowing. Then, it went out 10 minutes later. I worked out of town and my wife and family was there. So, I had to buy a water heater myself and had to have someone pay for it because I was gonna have to pay American Home Shield $900. It was cheaper for me to just go buy my own. I went to Lowe's and bought one for $500 and had someone put it in for 50. I cancelled AHS. I had them for 17 years and I was in the process of selling my house and they were giving me the runaround. I had to get another dishwasher too because the techs fixed the minimum but I would have to come out of pocket for what needed to be fixed. It was cheaper than paying AHS to have another person come out.

I had to use AHS a couple of times. When I had a claim for my dryer, the company that they were sending out didn't call me for over a week. Then, when the guy came out, he didn't have the part. It was this little part that you'd think they would at least keep one on hand all the time. So it was another week after that before my dryer got fixed and it took about two and a half weeks to resolve my claim. I was not really happy with that at all.

I had to constantly keep reaching out to them but when they got me somebody, the tech came right out and got the job done. He was very thorough and respectful, and explained what was going on. So, I loved the contractor. Everything is perfect now. American Home Shield is the best. You should get them because you'll need the warranty. I like that you don't have to search for your own people because sometimes it's hard to find people. They will get the people for you.

American Home Shield seems to offer a more complete package, and if an appliance breaks, they offer competitive replacement. Others don't seem to do that. I've done three service requests. One was a microwave repair. It ended up being a complete replacement because they couldn't get parts. I was disappointed with that. I had a very high-end microwave. It's a KitchenAid, which is a really good brand, and they offered a GE replacement. So, I opted to get one that I was more happy with fitting but I ended up paying a significant upcharge for the microwave itself. It was a little bit of a complicated installation but because they covered the installation, I still ended up getting $400 to $500 worth of value out of it despite having to pay 500 for the replacement. So, I ended up happy.

The second request was for a new microwave that had issues. It stopped heating. Somebody came out. I've got another issue with it that I haven't had a chance to call in on. The exhaust fan underneath of it doesn't suck. The third request was for a dryer part that failed. It caused a flood in my place. That got turned over to my homeowner's insurance, but I did open an American Home Shield case and they were gonna send somebody out until we realized that because of the severe damage it caused in the unit, it turned more into a claim against the homeowner insurance as opposed to AHS.

As far as the price for my warranty, it's gone up significantly. In my first year, it was $45 a month and now it's $75. It's gone up a lot in two years. But since I've used the warranty a couple times, it didn't feel quite as bad. Their contractors have all been good, too. It's just on their website, once they assign a contractor, there's no way to figure out how to contact the contractor. It's not intuitive. They told me who my contractor was, and I wanted to upload pictures of the damage or the video of how the microwave was failing. There's nowhere for me as part of opening the claim to say, "Here's some additional stuff that I think would help you." So although I explained the issue to American Home Shield, when the vendors called me, I had to go through the whole thing on what was going on.

If there was a way to upload attachments into the claim when it's created, it would be better. If they got the way the microwave was failing, they could have looked at it and said, "Okay. We know what that is.” You could see right on the little display what was going on. Instead, I had two phone calls. They had to troubleshoot it, and they had an appointment and then they said, "No. We can't get that part. So we canceled the appointment." They could have done all that even before the first phone call.

I don't plan to renew my plan mainly because when it came time for renewal, they were incredibly aggressive with phone calls calling me. They called me multiple times during my work day. I finally did connect to somebody when I wasn't in a meeting and just said, "I know my renewal is coming up. I will look at it. I've got a month left." She was very pushy. She said, "Well, how about I call you tomorrow?" I was like, "I'm not committing to making a decision tomorrow." "Well, what about Friday?" I said, "I will look at it. You sent me multiple emails about the renewal. I've told you, I said, 'I need to consider it.'"

She called me the very next day. I said, "Thanks for helping me make my decision up." I said, "You did not respect my wishes to give me time. I'm not renewing." I do not like pushy sales people. I would have renewed but they would not respect my request not to badger me and not to call me during my work hours. I explicitly said, "I need more time," and then she called me again the next day during the day. She clearly made no notes that said I work during the day and that I needed three days. So as of right now, I'm not planning to renew despite the positive experience. Because of the way that agent handled it, I'm not coming back. The renewal experience was too pushy.

On November 7th, I put in a request to get my bathroom back fan fixed. So American Home Shield scheduled my appointment with Budget Electric. But they said that the closest appointment that they had open was until December the 1st. I had no choice, so I took that one. But I told them that if they got a cancellation, just call me. That never happened, so the guy showed up on December 1st and it was a quick visit. He said they had to replace the fan but they didn't have the part, so they had to order it. After two weeks, I started calling. They said they were going to call me back whenever the part arrived. It was not until first week of January when I called and told them that it had been quite a while. I really need to get this fixed because my bathroom was creating a mold now because of the humidity. I was demanding and that was when they took it seriously.

They said they would give me a call back the next day but it didn't happen. I called back again two days later and they said they had the part but they had nothing on the schedule until the third week of January. So, I had to wait almost three months to get that fixed. After their tech installed the part, I noticed that the fan was running even when it was off. When I asked him about it, he said it has a sensor that detects humidity and that in 20 minutes, it was going to go off. But that didn't happen. So, he just left and I had to call back again. I told them that there was no way to turn off the fan and they said I had to call American Home Shield again because it was a recall. So, I had to call back and reschedule. It was not until the first week of February when they finally came and fixed it. But they just removed the sensor. So that way, I could turn the fan on and off from the switch.

I'm happy with American Home Shield because whenever I request something, they're quick. But the experience depends on who is the contractor. With these guys who came out for the fan, I wasn't happy with their service. It seemed like only one lady took their calls and there were times when I was calling and they were not answering my calls. And whenever I had the chance to have somebody answering, they kept saying that they didn't have the part and they'd just call me back. I didn't like that.

One Sunday morning, I got up and the house was only 62 degrees, so I knew the furnace wasn't working. It's been an ongoing problem and this is the seventh time I've had to put in a claim with AHS for a repair. They had been showing me how to go downstairs, take off these tubes, and make sure there was no water in them. I had done that and there wasn't any water. So, I went up to my computer, put the claim in to American Home Shield. Their website was pretty good. But it came up right away that the techs didn't come out on weekends and they didn't do holidays. My 95-year-old dad lives with me, so I couldn't be without heat. So, I figured out myself that there was water in the motor. I took it apart, emptied the water out of the motor, put it all back together, and luckily, my furnace came on. But I left the service request in because I'm not a technician.

I was disappointed that American Home Shield is there for me, but it's there for me on their terms, not necessarily when I need it. I had a lot of electrical issues, like light switches that didn't work in the bedrooms and the two-way switches weren't working properly. When I put in a claim, AHS said that they were preexisting problems, so they weren't covered. I realized it might have been preexisting, but it was a new problem to me as a new homeowner and that's what I wanted the insurance for. They did cover the repair when my dryer quit working, so that has been good. They have also sent someone out to fix my furnace four times. I already paid for three other times for somebody else to come out and look at it, too. But it's $125 for me to pay for the service call and for the $125, I could have just paid somebody to come out on my own. So, I would not renew the insurance in that regard.

The sump pump has been working great and we had no issues. So far, I've used AHS four times and their turnaround time was within a business week or five days. But they don't do smart devices, like a Nest thermostat or a Ring doorbell.

I had three appliances that needed work and he was waiting until he got the parts for all of them. I've had a lot of trouble with my refrigerator's freezer and one man from Sears Appliance Repair came out three times on that. It took them so long and they did not stay in contact with me. But the techs have all been really polite when they came into my home. Originally, the icemaker wasn't working and they got that fixed. They had to order a part. Then I've had three issues with the freezer. It stopped working and I had lost food. But they've replaced several things and this last time, the tech replaced the gasket. Hopefully, that'll work. AHS also replaced a built-in microwave and replaced some insulation on the oven. I’ve also had techs come out to look at an air conditioning unit and that issue was timely resolved.

When I made the request for a sump pump and the kitchen faucet and I didn't hear from American Home Shield in terms of having a vendor come out for the repair, I had to wait on one occasion for over a month. I kept calling American Home Shield and they kept saying they were gonna escalate it. So it was about a month before that request was given to another vendor. Fast forward to a couple of weeks, it was almost two weeks and the same issue. They didn't have a vendor to respond. So I was a little disappointed. Even though they did come out yesterday, it was two weeks after the fact.

When the technician came out, he came out for the sump pump and I told him that there was also a request for the faucet. But he said he didn't see that on his work order. I called American Home Shield and they saw it. They said, "Yeah. We see that you asked for both of those things. We're so sorry." Then I had to wait another week for them to send somebody back out for the faucet. But overall, I never had a problem for the most part with American Home Shield. I did have a problem one time with the refrigerator. They kept going back and forth trying to repair it. Then they said they were gonna replace it. But I had to pay a difference of a couple of $100 because they were offering a white refrigerator but I wanted stainless steel, so I had to pay to upgrade.

I called AHS and I said we were having problems with the sewer line, the toilet, and the bathroom, the bathtub, and the sink was clogging. A tech came out and he ran a snake down the main sewer line. It cleared out and it worked for about a week or two. And now we seem to have the same problem. When we'd take a shower, the shower would back up. We contacted American Home Shield and told them the problem came back. They said they would send the techs back out and that they should be calling us to set up an appointment. But we haven't heard anything since Friday night and we're waiting for someone to come fix the problem.

I have a lot of homes with AHS and they have been great. I like the service agents. Mostly, they're very understanding and nice on the phone. But I don't like some of the companies they pick who are not very professional. The last guy they picked for us mixed even the notes from one home to another. They sent me an email saying that the refrigerator needed a part but it was about one home. Then three days after, I called the home insurance to see if the part was on order. And they said the part in the back was chewed and they were not covering that. But I told them that this was for different home. So I called the company and I called American Home Shield again, and American Home Shield called me this morning. The lady was very nice and finally, she got it. She said she was trying to work with the company called the Bay Area Insurance and that she was trying to fix the notes, because they got mixed between the two homes.

Bay Appliances is really bad. They sent that guy and he was really yelling at me on the phone. He was not nice. When he called me after he checked the refrigerator on one of the homes, he said the refrigerator was not cooling. He asked me what the problem was and I told him that the freezer of one of the refrigerators didn't freeze the meat, and the fridge freezes the vegetables. He said that he noticed the wire looked like it was nibbled on by a rat. This is my rental home and because I don't live there, I didn't notice that. I also told him that the refrigerator was running 24/7 and that didn't affect the power. But he just said it has cooling problem.

Then, next time, he called me and said that the insurance was not going to cover the repair because it was a rat problem. The insurance also called me and said the same thing. I told them that I understood that but I was also told it was a cooling problem. It may be a rat issue and the wire was kind of chewed up a little bit, but the fridge was running 24 hours and that had nothing to do with the cooling. But I didn't want to fight. I could buy a new fridge. So the guy kept changing his mind, then he went to check the dishwasher in the same house. He said it needed a part, then he went and got a part. First, he asked us to remove the dishwasher out of the place. So the tenant did, and I have a picture of it because I asked the guy to send me a picture. Then two weeks after, he showed up and he tried to replace the part. Then he emailed me and said he needed another part. He said he didn't get the two parts and that he got only one part.

The second guy that came for the draining sink was rude. He was abrupt with my wife. The wife did not want him back in the house. I'll stick with American Home Shield. But it is very frustrating when you call somebody up, you're paying for this $150 a month, and it's not getting handled correctly.

When you go in the shower and you turn on the hot water, the shower valve would stuck up and it wouldn't shut off. So, the water kept on coming out. I proceeded to call American Home Shield and they sent a plumber out. My tenants were like, "You know, this guy, he didn't look like he knew what he was doing. He seemed like he made it worse." The company was saying that I had previously done something wrong to the shower when I was trying to fix it, but my house is new. No one's ever touched that shower. That shower has never broken before. They were trying to charge AHS a lot of money and then I still had to pa $490 for them to come and fix the valve. Apparently, they had to cut it open and tear down the drywall behind the shower.

So, I brought my neighbor over who knows a little bit about plumbing and he said, "You know what? I would get a second opinion because that does not look like it needs a whole amount of work." I told American Home Shield. It was a fight to get a second opinion to come out. Finally, American Home Shield agreed to send someone out, but I had to pay another $100. The other person came out and in 10 minutes, he fixed it. He said that the valve got stuck open and he just needed to adjust the valves so that it would be able to close. He did. He brought this special tool, which the first person never brought. He was trying to do it by force, which made things worse.

The first plumber's reviews are like 1 star on Google. I was telling American Home Shield about it and I told them that that was the reason why I was canceling it. I canceled it and I moved on to a different company. I had been a customer for a long time until things started going wrong in my house and I really did need them, and they were bad.

I had a refrigerator that went out and it thawed out all my stuff. It froze all my stuff in my refrigerator and I had to throw it all out. When the techs came, they said it was just the atmosphere and that does it in all refrigerators. I'm 67 years old and I've never seen it before in any of my refrigerators. But there was no arguing that. The guy got so mad at me because I wouldn't believe him. He got his tools together, walked out the door, and didn't do anything. So, a month or so later, it froze everything. The temperature went up and it thawed everything out of my freezer. So, I had to throw that away.

AHS sent a second person back out who pulled out the refrigerator and said that there was a hole in the condenser. He was very nice and was from the same company, Sears. But if they had pulled it out the first time, they would have seen that. Six weeks or so went by and I kept calling AHS. They kept saying they didn't have any response from Sears and they couldn't do anything. I just got rid of the refrigerator. It was smelly and was stinking my house up. So, I bought a new one. I also had to hire someone to come and take the refrigerator. And finally, after multiple phone calls, AHS sent me $1,400 towards my refrigerator. It took three months to complete this claim and it shouldn't be that difficult. I've lost quite a bit and I wasn't even for sure they were gonna give me that money, but they did.

Also, AHS promised me that they would give me back my service call amount of money but I never received anything for that. I don't know if that was included in the 1,400 or not, to be fair to them. But I tried to get ahold of them again to find out and I have not received any response. I just gave up on it. I paid $135 for the service call. Then I had to pay to have the refrigerator taken out of there and disposed of, and all my groceries. So, it came up to $1,000 that I paid over and above what my refrigerator was. They also said the next service call would be free but they never gave me anything in writing that stated that. So, I just assumed that's going to happen.

I would never buy AHS again. The cost of the service is high. It finally did pay for itself, but it wasn't worth the hassle. The only reason they paid me was because I was to the point of asking for my money back. I was just going to take the money that was paid. It was over 700 some dollars that I paid for the service and I was just going to use that towards getting another refrigerator. And that was when they stepped in and did something about it. Aide from that, their reps on the phone were so arrogant. You could hardly understand what they were saying and they wouldn't let me speak to a supervisor.

Finally, I got through to one after multiple phone calls and she was wonderful. But I emailed back when I was communicating with the rep who got things resolved, but there was no communicating with her after the fact. Also, I went on the website to get ahold of them to contact AHS. They need an easier way to communicate with them. Every time you would call, you would have to go through the whole spiel again to get to the end results. It was very difficult.

Most of the techs that AHS would send out are competent and wonderful. But sometimes they're horrific and probably shouldn't even be allowed in my house. So it's incredibly inconsistent. And that's why I probably will end up not being a customer anymore of American Home Shield because of this and how they do nothing for the people that are absolutely terrible. The last person who came out to my house missed four appointments and there was nothing I could do. He also put in a fake service request and said he had serviced one of my appliances that he had not even seen yet in my house. It was very bad. Then, when he did come, he came on a day that I did not authorize. He also did not seem completely sober. It frustrated me that American Home Shield did nothing about the fact that there was incompetent people in the house or that they wouldn't switch you over if he already claimed he'd been there even if he made up that fact.

The claim was for a refrigerator and a dishwasher. Another guy came out a couple times to look at the dishwasher and misdiagnosed it. Then I had to get him back out because I knew it wasn't what he said it was because it was leaking through the ceiling. I finally got the owner to come out after threatening him saying I didn't want this guy that didn't seem sober out again. So the owner came out and told me that the freezer of my refrigerator was overfilled and that was why the ice maker wasn't working. He said he'd look at the back and do a few things.

Then he looked panicked when he was messing around the back. He said that the whole thing needed to be replaced and that I got to get everything out of there. Within the day, the entire thing died. He broke it. So, AHS offered a replacement and I was very satisfied with it. What they offered me wasn't exactly comparable, but the cash amount was enough to get something comparable. They also ended up replacing the dishwasher but AHS was able to offer me the same dishwasher again, which I liked.

The guy before that AHS had out was the most competent guy I've ever had. So much so, I saved his number in case I don't have American Home Shield and I could get him out. It was called Andy's Appliance and the tech wasn't high or drunk when he came out. Before, I did not know to appreciate him for that. But now, I do. He was just like a normal human who you weren't afraid to have in your house and seemed completely confident with every single thing he touched. He diagnosed an appliance, got to the bottom of the issue, and was efficient and thorough. He set an appointment time, then he called and reminded me of the appointment time. He also came on the appointment time, which should be standard, but it is not with all American Home Shield vendors.

We have a pool and the good pool company that AHS would send out is terrible with appointments. They'd diagnose and fix the problem, but they wouldn't even tell me that they've been out to my house. I would see it on the camera that they came to my house, so I knew that they actually did the service. It's also kind of crazy to not tell you a time when they'd be out when they'd be coming into private property. But I know that you can block companies with AHS and I have blocked the last one. It did not look legitimate online. You can also Google these companies and a lot of them have very bad reviews. I wish American Home Shield would do that due diligence on the back end because I've never had one that was bad that had good reviews.

I had a ceiling fan and a couple of sockets in the wall that had stopped working. In addition to a wobble, the ceiling fan seemed to have some electrical issues not just with the mechanics of it being installed, but something behind the scenes. I reached out to American Home Shield online. The website is good. I would like a space to explain the issue, but as far as the flow of the website and the user-friendliness of it, it was seamless. I went in, I checked ceiling fan, it gave me a service request thing, it charged my little deductible and everything was good. In the app, I was only able to select ceiling fan but when they called to schedule the appointment, I was able to explain to the young lady in more detail.

Then, when Elite came out and I explained everything else, they went the extra step. Elite was absolutely marvelous. The tech explained to me what the problem was. And in addition to him fixing it, he gave me a few more pointers on what I should do for the safety of myself and my family in my home as far as making sure that a junction box is put around that plug. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. There was one vendor that I was not pleased with but American Home Shield was good. They made sure that if I had that type of issue again, it would not be assigned to that particular company. AHS works with the customers to make sure that they are pleased.

AHS couldn't get the parts. And they were on backorder. So, it took me at least four to five weeks before I got my thing fixed. AHS finally sent me a check. And right when they did, I didn't cash it because they claimed that the parts came in. The techs came and fixed the dryer. They had the parts all the time. I work in the healthcare field and I needed my dryer because I need to wash my scrubs. I ran back and forth to the laundromat. So, it wasn't a good experience. The tech were professional but they do not have enough people working on their team to come out.

I'm still with American Home Shield because they're good. They're quick about doing things like getting people out here to work on our house or whatever problem we have at our home that they cover. Last month, we had to call in because one of my pipes had busted in at night down by my hot water heater and they worked through until they got somebody here.

AHS tried to get somebody here that night, but the company they called went out of business. AHS called somebody else, but they couldn't get out until that morning because it was cold at that timeframe, too. Pipes busted around that timeframe. But they got someone out here as soon as they could, and they kept notifying me about what was going on. I'm assuming one of the guys was in training, or maybe he was part with the guy depending on the work. But both were friendly. It shocked me they were that quick. It might have took them 15 minutes to fix that thing. They knew what they were doing.

The other issue was my AC. It had stopped getting cold and the pipe would keep freezing up. When I contacted AHS, they sent the guy here and he went out there, looked at my unit and told me exactly what was wrong with that unit. I kept trying to tell the guys from One Source the same thing, but he tried to tell me, "You need to replace your whole unit." But I said, "That's not gonna happen 'cause I'm not gonna give you no $20,000 to replace this unit." I kept telling that guy, "I think this thing has like a little leak in one of the little lines out there and that Freon and stuff came out." He went out there and checked it, and said, "That's exactly what's wrong with that thing." He repaired that thing that same day, but in an hour and a half.

My water heater went out and American Home Shield sent out a company that said I needed to replace the whole unit and they couldn’t do anything to fix it. They told me that it wasn't installed properly and that I didn't have a permit. But I have a copy of the permit. They were trying to get money out of me and replace the whole unit. I called AHS and told them that my unit was new. It wasn't even 10 years old, so it shouldn't be replaced. They told me they would initially agree with the first company that came out, but since I was disputing it, they would send another company. But if the second company determines that I need to replace the unit, I would be charged for the full-service call.

The second company that AHS sent out confirmed that I did not need to replace the unit. It turned out all my unit needed was a different fuse. So, they ordered the part and fixed it, and AHS paid for it. This was going on when I was dealing with non-English-speaking people and when I called back a few weeks later, I got an English-speaking person. She read through the notes and saw what happened. She gave me a credit for the service call and I found out that I could have placed that company on a do-not-call list. I told AHS I didn't wanna deal with the company that they sent me anymore and put them on a do not send me. American Home Shield needs more English-speaking people because non-English-speaking people can't comprehend what you're trying to explain to them. It's like they're reading off of a script and if you don't say keywords, they're not gonna know what you're talking about.

The only thing I don't like about AHS is that you can't do multiple things under one service call. If I wanted to call in for my water and my air, I had to call in and pay a $100 service fee for somebody to come out for the water heater, and then call in again and pay another $100 for somebody to check the air. I had called in the past for my garbage disposal and a running toilet, and they were able to put that on the same service call. So, I'm assuming that it was both dealing with water and they were able to put it on the same call. But if it was two separate issues, then it would be two different service calls.

I've had American Home Shield for a few years. I used to live 30 miles south. And I had it on that house there in Red Bluff. Now, I live up in here in Cottonwood. I've lived here for over six years. I've had nothing but satisfaction. I had an individual that they contracted with. I had to go back to AHS and ask for a different contractor because I didn't like his attitude and the way he handled things. But as far as American Home Shield went, they got me a new contractor, satisfied, did the job. And everything has been fine.

The refrigerator started to leak water on the floor. The guy that came out was excellent. He's one of the best that I've had work on my refrigerator. I've had different ones out working on it for different reasons. But he is one of the best. We had him come out and take a look at it to repair it. He had been out once before. And it was the drain line that drops it down into the pan by the condenser, the motor down there. It was plugged. He fixed it the one time. This last time, it started leaking again. And this time, we could not get the drain tube unplugged. He cleaned it out. There's a little P-Trap in the back of it. He worked on that, got that out, made sure that was cleaned.

He poured hot water into the area because of the drain, thinking it was maybe a piece of ice that had frozen. It had frozen up back in there. He worked on that. That didn't drain. He vacuumed that out. And it would not drain. He hooked a little compressor on the other end of the plastic tube to blow whatever was in there, blow it back up and out because it wasn't going down. The compressor is small, has a little hose on it, and had enough pressure. It blew up that hose, not the one in the refrigerator, but the one off of the compressor. So, whatever was in there did not budge. He tried everything on it to unplug that. And it couldn't be done. That's why we filed a claim. We turned around and let them know that it was unrepairable.

It went to a committee that overlooks them over to see how many times. It showed that it had been out and worked on numerous times. It could not be repaired after this spot here. I even asked the guy, "Have you ever seen them these things repaired?" He said, "Yes. I have." He said, "They have to cut the back out of the refrigerator to get to the drain tube and then take and replace the drain tube."

The way they do that, they cut out this metal off the back of the refrigerator. And it's sealed. And you take all the insulation out. You get to the tube. Replace it. You put the insulation back. And you have to try to seal it up as best as possible. He said, "It works kind of." And he said, "I've seen it done." But he said, "It just doesn't last." Because you're opening up the guts of the refrigerator and not supposed to cut the back out of it. He said, "I wouldn't necessarily recommend that." Because he said it's not something that they say to do. That's why I turned in that report saying it was unrepairable. And with that, it went through the committee. They agreed. They sent me a check. I took that check, went out and bought myself a new refrigerator freezer.

They were able to come out on a weekend and the tech diagnosed the issue in a good amount of time and told me what the problem was and how much it would cost to fix it. But they were not professional. They showed up at my house with no mask and they never gave me that customer-friendly approach.

Also, I had a claim that I had to pay a whole lot of money for. The unit needed 12 pounds of Freon and American Home Shield only paid for 10 pounds. It cost me $1,500 out of my pocket. A couple of years ago, they replaced the washing machine, which was fine, but every time it comes to the heat and air condition, it costs the consumer so much money out of their pocket, like thousands of dollars. I've been with them for a long time and they've tried to place increases on me when I don't even call in a service request for years. And they wanna continue to raise my price at a non-competitive rate year over year. But I talked them down. I negotiated with them and they were willing to negotiate.
