The heating system upstairs in the attic was not working and when I called American Home Shield, the lady on the phone was very good. But the technician who came didn't speak much so he wasn't very communicative. I was asking what the issue was and he just had very few words. He replaced the part that required to be replaced and then left. The heating system starts working but when the temperature is achieved, it normally stops. And in this case, the issue was that it doesn't. The fan keeps going all night. I called a few times and it was a long wait time for the technician. So, I texted the same phone number where I exchanged the previous text with the same company but there was no response. Then, I eventually called American Home Shield.
I called two technicians within the first month but when I called AHS, it was more than a month. And now, they're saying you pay extra call-out charges, a new claim. Eventually, I got ahold of the technicians and they said American Home Shield needs to authorize it. They are willing to authorize it but they're charging me an extra $100 for the same stuff, which should have been fixed in the first place. I'm asking that the extra $100 does not need to be paid again. It's the same issue. The only reason they're saying is I called them after the 30-day period. But I called the technician within 30 days several times. If AHS doesn't waive it, then I'll look for another service provider. I will not recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

Do your research. Compare options and go with what works best for you and your family. The only thing I don't like is American Home Shield doesn't cover roofs for townhouses. But there aren't a lot of places out there that do. So, it's like the thing that you get whenever you buy a townhouse. But I liked the response time. Also, the contractor did an amazing job.
We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

American Home Shield is probably one of the best warranty companies because I've had experience with another one. AHS is the one I would recommend to people. But it's not perfect. There’s never emergency work. So, any time I call, I know it's gonna be two days before I hear from somebody. So, if ever I have some emergency thing, I wouldn't call them. I would call a local person. Also, I don't like the American Home Shield customer service. It's always somebody from another country that doesn't understand or you don't understand them, and they have a horrible recording.
AHS works well except when they put you on hold, they have this horrible song that they use. I've asked them to change it. I had to call them during the ice storm a couple of years ago and they had to put me on these long holds and it wanted to drive me up the wall. And they have not changed that. I've been a customer for four years and it's the same song. I almost quit the business with them because of that. It was so bad. I asked them to please change it and they laughed at me. They don't understand. They're gonna put somebody on hold and I have to listen to it because I don't know when they're gonna pick up again. But I like the contractors that AHS sends out. My disposal was broken and it was a great experience with B.B. Lewis Plumbing. They’ve come out here before. It's one of the contractors that American Home Shield uses and I like them. They fixed it in less than 30 minutes and it has been working perfectly.
There are times when I’ve had something repaired and maybe it continues to drip and they come back out because they give you a 30-day window where they don’t charge you a service fee again. I pay the company monthly for service and then I have to pay a service fee. AHS’ prices have gone up, which is kind of disappointing. I paid them 125 but it used to be $75 and they keep going up. I'm not happy with their price. And one time, they increased and didn't tell me. I almost sold my house and I just renewed but AHS makes you pay. They won't let you cancel. I didn't even sign a contract.
AHS doesn’t cover everything. They've got different packages. So, it's a little disappointing sometimes. But it is good to have especially if you don't know how to fix anything. I know enough people now. So, I could recommend it. But they're gonna pay a little bit more. You have to decide if wanna pay monthly for reassurance just like insurance and pay $500 for the year or if you wanna wait till you have some big thing happen and then pay for 500 for one thing.

I had a bathroom shower faucet that failed due to wear. I filed a claim online and Murray's Plumbing and Heating came out. I showed the technician to the problem and he started troubleshooting it. There was a cartridge that had to be replaced and he went to his vehicle, got whatever parts and tools were needed, and then made the fix. He turned the water back on and water works properly.

BIGGEST SCAM EVER! They will bend over backwards to not cover anything. And when you try to cancel, they will keep on the line for AN HOUR and attempt to "resolve the issue" by just flat out lying to you. And then they'll try to charge you a "administrative cancellation fee." DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE.

American Home Shield took care of everything when the furnace wasn't throwing out heat. I just called them, did a claim and they contacted JL Mechanical. JL Mechanical kept in touch with me to let me know when they were gonna be coming out. It was a Saturday and they don't work on Saturdays so I had to wait until Monday. But they were very professional and I would recommend them 100% to anyone. I've also recommended American Home Shield to other friends of mine that purchased homes and I have two that I had enrolled with them.

Having American Home Shield, we have something that can help if something goes wrong with an appliance, and we've had a good experience with it, so far. When our washing machine was malfunctioning, the repair person examined the machine and he was completely professional. He told me what the issue was and what we could do about it going forward. The solution ended up being to get a new machine, and even though we had a payment towards a new machine, we were very satisfied. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had a four-year-old LG refrigerator that the compressor went out. AHS quickly contacted a repair company to get them to fix the problem. However, that problem led to another problem - freezing the lower half of the refrigerator. AHS did everything possible to fix this problem, but after several months of repairman visits and replacing parts, they cut a check to replace the refrigerator. (The payment didn't cover the full amount for a new refrigerator but covered most of the cost.)

I have had American Home Shield for two years and never needed to use the service until recently. It has been a total waste of money and I'm cancelling my service. I filed a claim in late 2023 because my washing machine was flooding. Despite providing the model information, AHS assigned a technician who was not certified or qualified to repair my appliance. That technician alerted AHS of its error and explained to me that AHS would send out another technician. I waited for over a month and then, without any notice, AHS canceled my claim without connecting with me. I had to file another claim on February 6th. I requested my washing machine to be repaired and my dryer to be cleaned. A technician came to my home on February 16th and did not service my dryer at all! He never cleaned the dryer nor did he service the dryer.
He diagnosed the washing machine, told my son he needed to order a part and indicated that AHS would follow up with me. AHS never followed up with me, but I have called AHS repeatedly and escalated the matter. I worked with the escalation team to schedule the service for April 5th. The technician never showed for the appointment and I've now received an email from AHS stating that my appointment has been rescheduled for April 9th - when I will be out of state on business travel. Ironically, my AHS dashboard has completely different information about my service appointments.
I have extreme difficulty connecting with customer service representatives - who are all outsourced. I cannot reach anyone affiliated with the company who is actually in the United States. There is no direct number to contact the escalation team. Each time I call I have to restate my problem - even when I'm being transferred on the same call, I have to restate my problem. My experience has been absolutely horrible. I've paid this company over $1,800 over the past two years and all for nothing. I just gave the money away. I would never recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

If there’s a choice of negative stars I would do a negative stars. But unfortunately 1 star is the lowest. AHS does not even deserve to save 1 star. I don't normally and usually review anybody but this time I have to say something because I am really upset and frustrated. American Home Shield is like any other insurances or warranty service. They’ll give promises just for you to get a policy but when you are in and you request for service(s) they will deny any big projects because it will cause them money. At this instance when I call to request for they answer their calls promptly and send the technicians promptly. But when they go to see and perform diagnostics to the problem and send the report to AHS - AHS will deny the work order.
The only thing in the report that they want to hear or see is the phrase “NOT DUE TO A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR” that’s all they need to see for them to deny the work order. And if you complain, they will offer you a second opinion but the fact remains - your claim will still be denied no matter what. All the report sent to them will be interpreted as NOT DUE TO A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.”
In short the value of this service/warranty/insurance is ZERO comparable to the premium that you pay for every month. Might as well save your monthly premium in a bank account and when things happen you have something to pay for the repair or help with the replacement. Let’s face it, it’s not every day that we need repair in any appliance in our homes. So the premium that we are paying AHS will always go down the drain anyway because they won’t live up to their promises and they won’t repair nor replace as they promised. ITS NOT WORTH IT!
Another thing - the contractors or the technicians that they use are like their puppets - they always do what AHS tells them to do. And AHS will only and always interpret any report as “NOT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR”. So they can and will deny every claim there is. All that’s important to them is the premium that you pay every month and you do not get anything in return. Again, THE POLICY WITH AHS WILL NEVER BE OF WORTH TO YOU because AHS is not worthy to be trusted. I ended my policy today even if I had to pay the cancellation fee. Paying for the cancellation fee is worth it than continue with AHS.

American Home Shield is a complete ripoff. They tell lies on the companies that they hire. They hire contractors with a 1 star rating. They refuse to pay claims and change the work order for the company that they hire. I just got off the phone with American Home Shield and the company they hired and the company told the AHS representative that that is not what they said and they still refused to pay my claim. In all honesty this company is not worth the money.

I had the premium home warranty with AHS for 2 years, which I used 2 times for appliance repair in the first year. The customer service is awful, however I always had quick and professional service from the repairmen (that were subcontractors or contractors, from local businesses). Renewal time came with incessant calls from them each day. This year, I explicitly said that I would call them back when I was ready to renew. The 5-6 calls per day did not stop. The more I spoke with an AHS representative, the more I wanted to cancel my contract. When I finally did call to cancel, I let them know that there was nothing they could offer me to change my mind. Numerous times they came back offering me more, I was more firm with them and concrete in my decision. Each time they came back with "I respect your decision but." That is not respect, and it's insulting.

I filed a claim for a dehumidifier in a bathroom shower stall. There were no parts that the company sold so they couldn't switch out parts. They were going to try to find parts that might work and wanted to remove the fan and take it to the workshop. That was unacceptable to me because if they can't find parts approved for that particular appliance, it's supposed to be replaced. I also didn't want a hole in my shower stall ceiling where all the humidity would go up into the attic. I had to escalate and talk to a manager several times. It was very annoying, but American Home Shield finally replaced it.
Recently, there was was a bathroom sink faucet that was leaking. It wouldn't completely go off when you turned off the handle. The plumber who came was very competent and did the job quickly. He had to leave and get a part but he fixed everything that same day. American Home Shield is good for plumbing where you would spend $350 every time a plumber comes out, but you only spend your $100 co-pay and they usually can fix that stuff same day. But the amount of time you wait for major appliances is not ideal. There are things that you need like a washing machine or a dryer and it's gonna take three weeks to repair. You end up paying for it yourself because you don't have that time to wait. American Home Shield can take a while to send someone out then that part has to be ordered which is gonna take another week or two. Then you have to set an appointment for them to come back.
We slept on air mattresses downstairs in our living room for two weeks when we didn't have an air conditioner upstairs. It was 110 degrees in the summer and it would take that long to get it fixed. American Home Shield will never replace an air conditioner. They will fix and fix. During the 14 years in the house, for the most part, we would have their contractor out every month for the five months over the summer, and they would never give us money to replace it. We just finally replaced it on our own because we got so sick of dealing with American Home Shield and not have an air conditioner upstairs. The fix would last three to four weeks.

Thirty-two years ago, when we bought a house in Maryland, the owners had American Home Shield and left it as an incentive thing for the new buyers. So, it was already in place and we just kept it going. And when we moved, we set it up again. We knew how they worked. And having it for years, we're familiar with the coverage. In all those places we have lived, AHS has been able to partner with good companies who know they could get their customers elsewhere, but chose to partner with AHS to go through them. That's good because I know if they would use them, they pass muster and they're good. Recently, our AC's evaporator coil went out, and we had to pay for the coverage of the Freon and part of the device itself. But AHS picked a good company that came in. They fixed it quickly and we've been happy with the service.
I submitted the claim over the phone to have a serviceman come, and when he came, he evaluated the system and saw what was wrong, they did the filling out of, "This is wrong. This is what's wrong with their device and they need this, that and the other." They were professional, friendly people. The other servicemen, they had to order the part. And when they came and put it up in the attic, they were very professional and friendly. They put it up and that was it. It took 10 days total from the time they came to when we got the quote on how much things would cost on our end, and the company called us, had to order the part. And when they came, they put the part in.
AHS helps with the extra cost that if people didn't have it that they would have to pay full out of pocket, and they would have to run around and try to find a vendor. They're would not do half done and people would have to chase them down. I may encounter that, but at least I have somebody to go back to and say, "Make them come back out and fix it." If I was not expecting a large sum repair bill, that if it's a covered item, I don't have to worry about it.

Most recently, we had our dryer honked out on us. Prior to that, it was our washing machine. So, we've had a few claims to American Home Shield within the start of the new year. The dryer was repaired the very next day, which was phenomenal service. I was really impressed by that. The washing machine, unfortunately, wasn't able to be repaired. However, we were able to get a brand new one. So, it worked out well. There was a little bit of a delay on getting the new one, but that had nothing to do with American Home Shield. It was just because the timeframe fell when we had that bout of really bad winter weather in January. They were supposed to deliver, but there was so much snow on the ground. So, we ended up having to wait another week. Overall, AHS has always been very good.

American Home Shield's website is user-friendly but calling in is very difficult. Sometimes there's a wait. Because of the issue I had with the refrigerator, I had to call multiple times. It was very difficult to talk to someone who could help me. When I wanted to file a complaint, they told me there's no way to either email a complaint to anyone or to talk to somebody. That the representative was as far as I got. I had to do my own LinkedIn search and found their social media department. I emailed them, and finally they assigned someone to help me.
AHS contracted with a company. They came out three times and couldn't fix it. It was very difficult to schedule with that appliance company. It took them a month and a half to finally decide that they couldn't fix it. AHS wouldn't send me another appliance company. I said, "Can you replace it?" "No, we can't replace it unless this appliance company says it's not repairable." They didn't know what they were doing. They replaced parts. So, it didn't get fixed. I had to put in my own money.
Another claim I had was my heater wasn't working. AHS sent out someone quickly and was able to diagnose the problem. But that was after the issue with the refrigerator when they assigned me someone specifically to help me, someone who I could call, who would return my calls. The rep expedited everything. Everything went well because of her. After the refrigerator, she said if I needed help, I could call her directly. So, that's what I did.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I'm not happy with American Home Shield and I'm trying to find something that expands to other parts of my home like the roof. They have 24-hour access to their customer service but depending on the time, there might be a long period of hold. There's also a lot of "could you repeat yourself" depending on when you're making the call. Another thing is there was a $25 increase in my plan. It was $75 for them to get a technician. Now, it went up to 100 so I try not to utilize them because doing that I feel I'm losing $100 because they're not considering my claim. I've only utilized the services three times but they've only covered one item which was when I had a flood in my basement. But the contractors have been very professional especially the contractors for the air conditioner. They give phenomenal services and are transparent. They even warn me that American Home Shield may not cover it 'cause they see that the issue normally comes over as a non-covered issue.

Pro Line Appliance and Repair went above and beyond. They were better than anybody else American Home Shield has sent out. The guy, Ronald, went the extra mile to make sure that everything was working properly. The first time, he replaced my ice maker then had a similar issue to where the water was still overflowing and causing blocks of ice within the ice gaps. He completely redid the back side of it and everything has been fine since. I've had seven other people come out before him and American Home Shield kept trying to charge me another $100 because it was beyond 30 days. But it was the same problem. All the others did was make excuses to make money because they didn't know what they were doing. If I had to have anything done again, Pro Line is who I would have do it. I put the wooden piece back but the problem was that every time you try to close the door, it keeps opening by itself. So, all the tech had to do was come out and adjust the chain. He showed me what to do in case it happens again, and that was it. It took less than five minutes. I called American Home Shield to file my claim. American Home Shield has done some good things so I've kept them for years. I had an old refrigerator and they gave me a couple of hundred dollars for it. But they've gone from $49 to $99 a month. I don't think it's worth it to me. I'm thinking about canceling them because the last couple of times their contractor came out, they didn't fix what was wrong. I have a washing machine and it would leak sometimes. I called them and they sent somebody out who replaced some things. I thought they did a good job. But a week or so later, I noticed that it was leaking still.
I called American Home Shield again. They sent the people out again and they replaced more things. But it was leaking again. By that point, I've gone past the 30 days so I had them come out and it cost me 100 bucks again. American Home Shield has never sent anybody out that I thought was sketchy or didn't know what they were doing. With the washing machine, it just didn't fix. But they replaced almost everything on that washing machine so I don't know why it still occasionally leaks underneath. I also had a contractor come out because the lights in my kitchen over the island and over my breakfast table flicker. They said, "I don't think we can fix it because you would have to rewire. It's probably the lights, not the house itself."

I've had great experience with American Home Shield. The plan and the coverage is awesome and the deductibles, because you choose them on your own, is wonderful. I like that about them and that I'm always able to get someone on the phone. Also, getting someone out is pretty quick. It's immediate to get someone assigned and then it's up to you to connect with them and schedule an appointment, which is out of American Home Shield’s hands and can lead to a problem because being reassigned to someone is hard to do if you run into a issue or they don't have any openings.
The only issue I've ever had was troubleshooting issues between myself and the assigned contractors and resolving those issues in a timely manner. I recently had something that took months for them to resolve because the contractor was saying one thing that seemed to be contradicting what I was saying. AHS is like the middleman and it can drag out their ability to resolve a issue in a timely manner. That only happened one time, though, and I've used them for years. Also, phone calls can take long, depending on how long it takes to answer a phone. But I like calling sometimes because if I have a question or something, they can resolve it. I've had issues before and they've been able to work resolution and I didn't have to pay an additional deductible. Calling can be beneficial.

I don't like American Home Shield. Over a year ago, I canceled. Lo and behold, the guy I was talking never canceled my contract so I'm still with them to this very day but things that needed to be done in my house are still not done. I had issues with my garbage disposal and my faucet. I never got the faucet. The repairman said mine was too old even if I still had the parts. I'm still not able to use my sink. They never even came back to finish the job. I also had a complaint with my microwave and American Home Shield asked me to look for a new microwave which I did. The guy that came ate food at my house, but he never came back. He told American Home Shield that the job was done. I still don't have a microwave.

American Home Shield serves the purpose. However, there were some isolated cases last year that I sent for dispatch. The garbage disposal was clogged. The guy who was there said it was just clogged. Of course, it would clog because it could not grind anymore. He just removed the clog and I paid the dispatch fee. After two weeks, it broke again. That dispatch I had with that garbage disposal turned out to be more expensive. I did it twice but it was the same thing. I was tired of calling American Home Shield because their contractor was gonna remove the clog again and I would have to pay for the $100 fee. I ended up getting an external contractor replacing that disposal.

I set up a claim for the furnace online and it was was simple. In less than 24 hours, American Home Shield responded to me and contracted EJ's to provide the service. EJ's contacted me within 48 hours and someone came out here the following day. They told me what was wrong, ordered a part, and told me it would be 10 to 14 days and they would have someone come and install it. But that didn't happen.
After the 10 to 14 days, I called and they said they still didn't have the part. I asked if they had a projection of when the part was gonna arrive and they told me they don't have contact with the company where they received the part from. Also, I asked for a shipping number where I could track it and they said they didn't have that. I got off the phone with them and called American Home Shield and reported it. They called EJ's and then called me back and told me the same thing EJ said. The part hadn't arrived and someone would call me. This was in January when the temperatures were below freezing and I told them I had to to go to a hotel because I couldn't stay at my house. They said they understood.
Two more weeks passed and I had been calling EJ's to ask if the part had arrived. The rep said they don't know when it was gonna come in. They'd call me when the part comes in and I'd have to wait until it does. I called American Home Shield because I didn't appreciate his demeanor. I had been waiting for this part for over a month. American Home Shield had EJ's contact me. They said that according to their records, EJ's had the part. I told them I had just called AJ's and they said they didn't. American Home Shield said that they would call them and then called me back and said EJ's didn't have the part.
I called EJ's once again and they said they didn't have the part. By then, I had called two other companies asking how much they would charge me and how fast they could get it done. The other two companies said they could have it done within one or two days, depending on when I could get my appointment. I called American Home Shield back and told them I would like to find my own company instead of me constantly waiting. They said that since they had already ordered the part, they couldn't do that but what they could do was give me a portion of the money to have the part put on and I would have to fund myself any remaining balance. I said okay and how much it would be. They said they didn't know and someone would let me know in the email.
On the email, I believe it was $190. But it was 10 times that for the part and to have it put on. I said I didn't want that because then that would make me a brand-new fool to have a warranty with them but still pay for this part by myself and only get a $190 from them. I declined that and I called American Home Shield. Finally, American Home Shield called EJ's and they said EJ's had the part and they had verified it and someone would call me. Someone actually did call me and scheduled to put the part on a few days later. The tech made the appointment and he came by and put it on.
I appreciate my furnace being fixed but the wait that it took for that made me say that I would not use American Home Shield again -- the amount of time it took and the money I spent on hotels could have paid for that part. I would rather pay for the part myself instead of waiting that long. My experience I had with my washer was completely different, though. American Home Shield responded quickly and the tech came out and assessed it. He told me what was wrong with it and he said that the part would be in the same timeframe, within 10 to 14 days. It took longer than the 10 to 14 days but it didn't take as long as the heater part and they were able to give me updates. When the part came in, the tech came out and he fixed my washing machine within 40 minutes. That was a relatively good experience to me. But I didn't realize that there would be a 14 to 21-day wait time to have the item repaired when I initially signed up. That was something that I learned after signing up for it.
But the representatives at American Home Shield are excellent. They do everything they can to help the customer and I know all customers appreciate that because they don't just give you a check-the-blank answer. They actually do their due diligence to try to help you. But the companies that American Home Shield contracts with may need to be vetted periodically to see if they're still gonna use those particular companies.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I have been with American Home Shield for 5 years. Any time I have had a problem with my AC unit they have had someone out within 2 or 3 days and the service has been good. Plumbing is a totally different situation. I have been waiting for 5 days for my toilet to be fixed and they can not get a contractor to come out. I called to escalate the call and when they called me back on day 5 they told me that they are still looking for someone to come out. They said someone should call me in another 48 hours. That means day 7 and that is no guarantee that anyone will be assigned, just means that someone will call me to tell me if they found a plumber or tell me they are still looking. Once they find someone, then I have to wait for the contractor to make an appointment to come out. I am not happy.

When I put it in a service request for the dishwasher, the tech came out and declared that the dishwasher was dead. It burned up. It was stuck on the drying thing, and just kept getting hotter and hotter. Everything that was in the dishwasher that was plastic totally melted. If I hadn't caught it, it might have caught the whole house on fire. So American Home Shield bought me a new dishwasher. That was a very positive experience.
The only issue I have with American Home Shield is trying to make a phone call to them. I cannot seem to get through, or if I do, I'm on hold for an hour. But I usually just go online and do a service request. I've been recommending American Home Shield to other people, but it seems like they're more expensive than they used to be. I put a call in to American Home Shield because I had an issue in my bathroom with a faucet. They dispatched out B&L Plumbing. When I had them on the phone, I said, "Hey, since I put in this request, I now have a drain that is leaking under my sink in the kitchen." They told me that I had to call American Home Shield and put in another request. So I did. I paid the $125 twice. American Home Shield dispatched out a different company. So I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. The rep told me that they could combine it where the same company comes and fixes both of the repairs and I would only have one $125 service fee. She told me I hadn't been charged for it. But I told her that it already came out of my account. Then they said that it would be dropped off and I wouldn't be charged for it. So they came out and fixed both of the leaks, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen.
The tech did a good job. He explained to me what he was doing and why he was doing it. With the issue under the sink, he said he didn't actually have to do anything. He just had to screw something on tighter. He did the repair in the bathroom. He was nice. But I have been calling American Home Shield ever since then trying to get that refund and have not been able to get it. Dealing with the customer service is rough. They don't always follow through with what they say they're gonna do. But they are very quick to respond and communicate well. Overall, I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield because of the problem that I've had to call. I also had a washer that had to be repaired and it took two and a half months to get that thing resolved. Also, the customer service is very difficult to understand because of their thick accent.

I've never had a problem with American, and we've been with them for about 23 years now. They're fabulous. When we were having problems with one of the folks doing the air conditioning for us a couple of years ago, we had to call them to handle a couple of things. It wasn't a big deal, but they did a wonderful job as well. They rectified the problem. If we could get it cheaper, that would be great. But sometimes, you gotta get what you paid for.

first okayed to replace my chiller. But the plumber said he couldn't work on it. So, they sent somebody else. And every time, somebody would give a different diagnosis. When I read the reviews on some of these plumbers, they were terrible. I told AHS, "I'm not happy with these plumbers and their reviews are really bad."
The last plumber that came out said, "It's a portable chiller and they will not replace it," after AHS said they would replace it. It's a home unit. It's not a commercial-type of chiller. So, I don't know what they were expecting. But in my plan it said they are covered. So, I was disappointed with that. They sent out four different plumbers and they were all incapable and non-responsive. Also, AHS doesn't respond. They never call back. I tried several times with them. I reached out to them again and said, "This isn't fair 'cause you already okayed the replacement, and now, you're reneging on that and taking that back and not replacing it."
All I could do is speak to AHS' customer service rep people. I couldn't speak to anybody higher up. They just said that they go by whatever the plumber says. So, one plumber said one thing, another plumber said another, and that's what it was. And one of the plumbers that came out moved my unit and it leaked and damaged my floor, but they're not responsible for that either. I was not happy with AHS after all these years that I've been with them.

I submitted a claim for my kitchen sink faucet. I did it online and the AHS website was easy to use. I had a response within 24 hours and at first, the contractor wasn't sure when they could get a contractor out to my house. But their attendant on the phone told me how to shut off my water so it would stop leaking under my sink. Then somebody was out in 24 hours and the service was perfect. I really thought I was going to need a new faucet but he took it apart and just tightened up the valve thing on it. He also checked the threads, then he put it all back together. In less than 30 minutes, I had no more flooding under my sink.
The 24 hours turnaround time to have a tech out was manageable. But the fact that they helped me just stop the leaking was perfect. Obviously, when you open up your kitchen cupboard and everything is covered in water, you want somebody there right away. But my experience was seamless and smooth, and it worked. Also, the warranty costs $40 a month and it's $100 per service call. But if I would have had to call a plumber, I would have been above that.

I heard that AHS was very inclusive to different problems that might occur in the home and it was less expensive to invest in a kind of insurance, which is what American Home Shield is, to pay for problems in the future than having to pay for a problem when it took place, which normally would end up costing more than the payments we made to American Home Shield. Recently, the kitchen sink backed up. I called American Home Shield as I normally have done in the past and they assigned a work order for the company to come out and do the work. The claims process was fairly easy. The techs gave me a choice of what time and day they would be available. Then they came on at that time of day and snaked the sink. They had a device they put in the terrain and it cleared the area that was congested in the pipes. The drain has been clear since they came.

At first, American Home Shield's service was garbage. The dropped the ball on my claim for the AC unit. It went out on me beginning of the summer and they were going to tell me it was a pre-existing affair. But that was a lie. So, I was very disappointed and I had to come out of my pocket with $2,500 to get my AC repaired. I've been paying them all this time and they would not pay for it.
But the service got a little better and they came through with the last claim I had for my heater. The reps I talked to were concerned and didn't blow me off. They really took the time out. The contractor was very helpful, too. At first, the heater worked but it was cutting on and off, doing the same thing. He came out with the second time, got a solution, and fixed it. When he did, he wasn't frustrated. He was very nice and he broke it down to me in detail what he was repairing and what he was replacing. It was something about a flow system that was closed and that was why the heat wouldn't circulate. I got two thermostats and one was taking control of the other one. So, he let me know the flow system was closed on one side. Since the repair, the heater's performance has been pretty good.

They should give me the option to say yes or no, if I wanna keep the policy. I don't like that they go up on their rates and they don't inform people ahead of time. Eventually, they fixed it, so that's good. However, they came five times, and that doesn't make sense. It's not worth it to me. I had to take a lot of time off work, and it was just for a dishwasher. Horrible experience with the home warranty service from AHS. I encountered a clogged sink and a non-draining garbage disposal. AHS dispatched plumbers who conveniently claimed the work wasn't covered because they couldn't access the drainage line from my finished basement. Absolute nonsense and a clear attempt to avoid accountability for their incompetence. I had to hire my own plumber who resolved the issue swiftly. Despite AHS promising a refund for the service fee, they have yet to follow through. Their lackluster customer service has left me completely dissatisfied. And to resolve it, I had to use the Attorney General's office and file a complaint. In general, the people I talk to in American Home Shield are mostly offshore and good. I submitted a claim online and American Home Shield's website was fairly well-organized. However, it's difficult when you have an ongoing claim that's not been serviced yet. Like the one that I recently had. I had to follow up with American Homes Shield on there because after a while, it would go to a status of, “The claim has been completed”, when it actually hasn't. So I had to do some negotiating with the website to find out any type of thing I had to resolve.
I had Mr. Appliance come out and they were someone who came out as a result of someone else that didn't want the claim or couldn't handle the claim. They called us a couple of times and told us what the status was with my service claim. They stayed in contact with me as much as they could until turned they my request over back to American Home Shield. So they did a fairly good job of taking care of the things that I wanted them to. Mr. Appliance was a very good contractor, but the other contractors that I had were sometimes a hit or miss.
At the moment, I have a claim for one appliance that has been pending for over six months and I still don't have it repaired properly. I had another appliance that I had the techs come out to repair and it took at least two months for them to repair it. And while they were repairing my washing machine, the light had gone out in the laundry room and I didn't know the reason why the light went out. The electric works in that room, but the light fixture does not work even though I've tried to replace the bulb. I called back the company that came out for the dryer and they said that they didn't have anything to do with my light going out, but I thought that they did. So it's going to cost me to have to make another deposit on another claim for someone to come out to repair my light fixture.

We also had a plumbing claim and the techs fixed our sink in our bathroom but they had to drill a hole in the wall that went to our bedroom. And they had to knock out about a 1 foot chunk of wall off our bedroom. Then, they were supposed to send someone to patch the wall and it was never done. So all these things were going on at the same time and every time somebody came, we had to pay AHS $130 for their service fee. It was getting confusing and crazy during that time. But our problem finally got resolved when I told them I would go to our attorney general in the State of Ohio. They jumped on our problem and it was fixed within 48 hours.
Recently, we had a claim for our washer and they had it replaced. Submitting the claim online was easy and the contractors were fine. It was the follow-up that was awful. When you have a question and you talk to someone from their 1-800 number, you'd be transferred to India. You'd have some foreign person on the phone and you'd be making a thousand different messages which was annoying. But we ended up getting a new washer so it was good. All in all, the AHS warranty is worth getting but they should have better customer service directly.

I submitted the claim over the phone. The reps are great. They got somebody out quick and they took care of business. The techs were polite and nice. They came in. They were professional. They did what they had to do. They let me know that they gave me a temporary faucet to replace the one that was leaking, and they said that that wouldn't work until they were able to get a brand-new one to put up there. So, they replaced the whole thing. American Home Shield is one of the better home warranty companies.

American Home Shield's vendors do not meet up to par. Why do they keep using the same person? I've had an experience for the last couple of years with the same vendor and they keep sending these people and they need to find some new business that can fix the device, have good professional manners, and not come in the home arguing with people over the phone and different stuff. I'm a nurse practitioner and I am professional and I know that the consumer is always right. You bow down and you do what you gotta do and go out and shut up. My device is still not fixed and this has been since November of last year. I'm trying to reach them to tell them I got two parts in and one's not in. Nobody seems to know who I need to talk to.
American Home Shield has been good in some areas though. Sears is one of the main ones they need to take off their list. Sears has got a monopoly. Sears can do what they wanna do. I've been working on my ice maker since November. One guy leapt up out of here, and told me it was fixed because him and my husband had confirmation. Another left and said they were gonna come back and bring some parts. They put out the case. I was calling AHS finding out why have they closed the case. They didn't know. They gotta reach out to Sears. Sears has not given a report of what they've done, but yet they closed the case out. It's not even fixed. My ice maker still ain't fixed. It is a brand-new refrigerator that AHS purchased for me from an old one.
I have several properties under AHS. If I could find somebody right now, as frustrated as I am, I would change. You talk to people and they say they're gonna call you back in two days or in 24 hours, and you never hear from them. I spend more time on the phone trying to find a representative that will be honest with me. If you're not gonna do something, don't tell me you're gonna do it. And every time, it's been escalated. One escalation should be enough to bring a notice when you have a concern and you have a complaint. I shouldn't have to keep calling and have somebody telling me they're gonna escalate it up the ladder. Customer service does not have the authority to move and do what they need to do. It's always going somewhere. They cannot give you a true answer.
I pay for coverage automatically every month. That's why I'm frustrated. I pay for it and I want the service that I feel like I should get on a consistent basis. When someone comes and does the work, the work is fine, but the problem is getting them here and getting reliable people and people that I say "may be knowledgeable" to the nth degree about what the problem is. The coverage is good when it works. AHS has done good work when they get good workers in here.

I like that there's protection with American Home Shield. But I don't like that a lot of their contractors don't try to accommodate you. They will take American Home Shield customers only during a certain window because you are a part of that program seemingly. A lot of times, I've had to call. It's hard to switch contractors with American Home Shield because you have to go through American Home Shield and there's this lengthy process with their customer service. Sometimes I don't like their representatives. They seem to work at home and they don't know what's going on sometimes. But once you don't have to deal with customer service, it's okay and it also depends on the contractor that you get.
I had PHD Plumbing come out and they were pretty good. They will give you good customer service. They call you right back. You don't have to wait for them to get to you. They stand by their word. But I had to fight to get switched to them. So I have no issues with PHD Plumbing. It's just that when they had to tear out the wall, I had to go through someone else and it took him a long time to get back to me.

American Home Shield has gotten better over the last couple of years. It used to take forever to get someone on the telephone and talk to them. They seem to be more responsive now than they used to be. We recently had a plumbing leak in a rental property that my brother and I own, and we asked AHS to send the plumber out to find out what the problem was. However, they didn't do a good job. The guy AHS sent couldn't find the problem and went away. He came back later and looked for it again, but couldn't find it. We just gave up. My brother and I called the plumber that we used in the past that AHS doesn't use. He came in, found the problem, and solved it in half an hour. So, I wound up paying AHS $200, got nothing out of it, and I still have to pay the other plumber’s bill.

But it was working when the tech came out. I recently had an issue with my grill for my cooktop and I was glad I could just call AHS. They already have the service people lined up. So, that part is easy. In the past, we had trouble with a claim that was double. They might send somebody out twice or they might send a request to a company and the company doesn't get it. We've had a couple of things happen since we moved into this new house and the only complaint is that sometimes there wasn't good communication. American Home Shield’s subcontractors would tell me they had ordered a part or checking on a part and I'd have to call three times to make sure that went through. It would just sit there and nothing would happen unless I called. But once I called, they were out here. They did a good job doing what they needed to do.
We're not finished yet with my air conditioning unit because it's the type of unit that will work in the winter with heat without doing the modification we needed to do. I asked them to just put it off until the spring. So, in a short while, I'm gonna call the subcontractor and get him out here to finish that. They have been doing a good job. But they are slow sometimes and let things sit. It took me 12 weeks to get my refrigerator for them to decide that they couldn't fix my old one. And it's a long time to do without a refrigerator in the summer. But once they got here, they did the job right.

Two faucets in one of our bathrooms upstairs weren't working right. The hot water faucet on the sink is really hard to turn and the shower faucet handle was real jiggly and loose like it's gonna come off. My mother-in-law and father-in-law live here and that bathroom is the one that they use every day so while they were out of town, I wanted to get those things fixed. I put in the claim with American Home Shield because faucets were supposed to be covered. They set up for a plumber from Hi-Tech Plumbing to come out and take a look at the faucets. But the day before he came out, I had spent a little over $300 and had my carpet shampooed. When he came out, I told him I just had the carpet shampooed so they were still a little damp and I needed him to put some booties on. He went back out to his truck and put the booties on outside in the street and then walks up to the house so they were dirty. He said they were fine and I wasn't gonna argue with him.
We showed him what was wrong and he said it was all normal. We have three full bathrooms and all the faucets for the showers and the sinks are all exactly the same. It was not normal. It was not how any of the other faucets work. He said it was because the bathroom is not used all the same as. This bathroom gets used every day, multiple times a day. So he said he'd look. Then, he said to my husband that he replaced something inside the shower faucet and on the other one, he had to put in a request to see if it would be covered.
American Home Shield called and said it wasn't covered because it was due to a build-up of calcium. The faucets are just on/off valves. Water doesn't flow through them. It's either stopped or started because of them. But the water flows through the faucet part so I don't understand how calcium would get built up. Also, the plumber used a pair of pliers on the hot water handle for the sink faucet and gouged the faucet all the way around the outer ring of it. I asked who was gonna pay for that and they told me I would have to contact the plumber. I called him and left three messages but never got a call back. I called American Home Shield and got his email address. I sent him an email and never got a response. I've used American Home Shield for several repairs around my house -- my washing machine, my dryer, my dishwasher, my garbage disposal, and send out the nicest people. They're always so accommodating and nice so it was kind of shocking that this man was so rude.

I had a very good outcome with American Home Shield. Over the years I've had them, I've had good luck with them. And because the companies that come out that repair things, I could at least have some kind of fallback on it. Two months ago I had a fire from my hot water heater wire thing, and the wire was all fired up in there, and the hot water heater went. The contractor came and fixed it. I had to pay a double fee because it was the water heater and the electrical that burned. The electrical burn went further than the little box that runs the hot water heater. So, what it did was burn something out of my main electric box. That's why I had to get the electrician and he had to take that and buy the electrical box. The companies that came out and repaired it were very good and timely to my needs. So, it was very good.
The contractors came when I asked them to because I couldn't take off of work anymore. They came the day I asked, and they fixed it the same day that they were here both times. Because I had already taken off because I didn't know what the issue was at first, and when I had them replaced and knew the problem, they came when I had off of work.

The tech was knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. Every single call to AHS resulted in pretty much a quick fix, except for when I had a compressor on my AC going out. That time, they didn't have the compressor and it was the middle of the summer in New Jersey. I didn't enjoy sweating out the day because I've got two cats and I had to wait three weeks. Also, almost every single time I have renewed over the phone, my order is not correct. The last time, I asked the rep if that would be it if I send a one-time payment and they said yes. But then I get the bill and then a second bill. They should be able to stand by their employee, right or wrong.

That didn't solve the problem, but I paid a deductible and I still have the same problem. And they would probably come up and say that, "We don't cover that." Why do they charge me for other stuff?
I'm upset with a couple of claims with them. I don't like it. When I submit the claim, I would explain to them my problem and they said, "Okay." They asked me for my deposit. I would give that to them and they would say, "We're gonna send someone out to repair your problem." And when the company would get out here to repair my problem, they would say, "They don't cover this. They don't cover that." Because they went outside, they went where they thought that problem was, and I still had a problem and I paid my money. I paid $180-some to replace for a part that they didn't cover and I still have the same problem. Also, the contractors are nice and do what they can. The refrigerator quit so I called American Home Shield and they sent out a technician who replaced the motherboard. That didn't affect it and he told AHS they need to send out a qualified technician for a GE refrigerator. AHS scheduled that out with Sears. I asked the first tech when he left if I could unplug it because it was still drawing power and he said yes so I did. Then when the Sears guy was coming out, he said to plug it in the night before, which I did. When he showed up, it was working and within three hours of him leaving, it quit working again.
I called AHS and they rescheduled them out. This time, I just left it plugged in because I wasn't gonna go through this again. When he came back out, he wasn't here 10 minutes and said the compressor was bad. He left and ordered a compressor, filter, and fill valve. I called and did what I was supposed to do to let them know all the parts were here. But the next appointment got canceled because, apparently, they didn't know the fill valve was here. Then, they didn't even show up for the next appointment. I made sure that me or my wife was home all day and I got no call to cancel it or anything. I got a phone call saying they were canceled because all the parts weren't there and I called and said all the parts were here. The tech showed up but his vacuum pump went bad so he could not suck out the coolant and replace the compressor so I had to reschedule it again.
When that time came, they called and said they were overbooked. They were gonna reschedule me. I told them that unless they're rescheduling me early, I need to talk to a manager because it had been going on for almost three months. They rescheduled me for Friday instead of Saturday and the technician showed up and changed the compressor. The technician did a very good job and it's been working great since but the whole process was over three months long. I'm not happy about how long it took by any stretch of the imagination, but I can't hold that against AHS because it wasn't them. Just before the last appointment, they offered to get a different technician but I said that would just cause more trouble. It all worked out and it's nice to know that if I have a major appliance go down, I can call AHS and they'll get a qualified tech out here and get it fixed.

Sometimes I would have a hard time understanding the accent. I have an accent. I'm not perfect. I'm not even from this country. Since we live in Pennsylvania and the place that we have through AHS is in Maryland, it's a little rough. But that's not their fault. Maybe they don't have a lot of technicians in the same area, because the one time, they would send somebody and said they didn't have anybody. And I had paid them $100. They said I needed to find a local person. After I paid this individual $125, AHS sent Sears out. And Sears is always there, so they would have had them. They should have paid me back $100. But I never heard anything more. They could have reimbursed me the $125. That was an incident I wasn't happy about. Other than that, I like them.

I strongly advise against using AHS for your home warranty needs. In my experience, their services are unreliable and their communication is ineffective. Whenever I have had to call their call centers, I have been routed to foreign countries and no one ever follows up within a reasonable time frame. Even more concerning is the fact that AHS makes it difficult for contractors to accurately describe the problem that needs work. By limiting their options, AHS can declare most, if not all, of the work as not covered in the plan. In my opinion, this is nothing short of a scam. Save yourself the headache and choose a different provider for your home warranty needs.

They have a hike every year and I'm on a fixed income. I try to get the best deal I can. Over the years, my payment has grown a little bit, but also my deductible has risen. I only ever had an issue with one contractor who was very grumpy and rude. He was a refrigerator repair guy for my ice maker. But I've had plenty of other positive experiences. For my disposal in the sink claim, they called me on Sunday and scheduled it for Monday. They were there within 24 hours and it was a great deal. I had a three-fourth horsepower and when he went to get it, he couldn't find half horsepower. So I got upgraded to a whole horsepower. That was nice. I have the Ferrari now.

My experience with AHS is okay. However, I would like to be able to better pick my own vendor. I wish they had that as an option ‘cause some of the vendors are not as good. We had a few issues with our gas and electric furnace. The initial Climate Masters they kept assigning, the guy was terrible. He was gimmicky, doing short-term solutions to things and not permanent solutions.
The claim was for a furnace issue downstairs in our basement. One time, our bill was $750. We could have gotten a better vendor. I would have preferred for the bigger systems like that to use a vendor familiar with the system, because the vendors they provide may not know the system. So, often I go outside of their network and hire my own person anyway. And it doesn't encourage me to continue it if I have to do that. I'd like to have the option, even if it means the premium is more, to pick my own vendor.
AHS is a pretty good deal. However, they should focus a little more on reviewing the policy that is purchased with the person when they first purchase it. We thought we had every system in the house covered. And the way the language read, made it sound like any issues to the water pump which you have for wells would be covered, ‘cause it said it may be covered. Then we found out it wasn't. I had to pay over $2,000 to get that repair because it wasn't covered. I was told, “You had to add that as a rider.” Nobody explained that to me when I purchased the policy. They should give the owners the ability to purchase riders right from the beginning and for people to tell them, “These are the riders available for you to purchase as an add-on.” They should have better protocols in their training for their sales area.

I had two different friends who are unrelated to each other, and they both had told me what a great experience they had with AHS, and I said, "Okay. I'll go ahead and sign up." I have not had any problems in my house in the last 10 years besides my water heater. So, I signed up for American Home Shield and it was six weeks afterward, my sump pump went out in my crawlspace because of all of our flooding. I called AHS and they had a new sump pump in there the next morning. It was that quick and easy. $125 deductible and they handled everything.
The technician came out that same day, he crawled down in the crawlspace, and I could still talk to him down there and he said, "Yeah, the pump is gone." He crawled out and said, "I've already called over to have a pump ready. It's already there at Wilkof for me to pick up. I just have to wait for approval from American Home Shield." He said, "I've already submitted the request." He did that while he was in the crawl space. He said, "When I get out to the truck, I'll finish sending that over. And they should approve it quickly." And he came out the next morning and installed that sump pump. The technician and the receptionist I spoke to at Summit were super friendly. AHS is great too. I'm shocked that they can stay in business providing this much customer service.

My last experience was with American Home Shield was awful. Sears didn't show up the one day we took off from work. The second day we took off from work, they showed up and didn't have hoses coming to repair a dishwasher. So, we took off the second day of work. Then the third day of work we took off, nobody came and they said it was because we didn't call them and let them know the parts came to our house. My husband ended up fixing it himself, but we paid American Home Shield the $150 co-pay, and we pay every month. It was infuriating. We were without a dishwasher but the bigger thing was we had taken off three separate Tuesdays.
AHS told me they were gonna refund me the $150 fee to come to the house that day and they never did. I'm fine with the pay if they would fix the appliances and do their job. Unfortunately, a lot of times when I call and speak to them, they can't even understand me. Then when I tried to escalate it to speak to a manager, the rep said, "We don't have any managers right now."

When American Home Shield does something, it's good. It gets done and it's nice, and we really appreciate some of the things they've done, but they can drag their feet at times as well. They don't take the effort to make sure something gets done. They put it on us to contact the person or figure it out ourselves occasionally. Some months back, our dishwasher broke down. We had to get it replaced, and when they dropped it off, they didn't realize until they got it out that there was some kind of attachment that needed to be added on. They did have some people drop it off, and then those people showed up, and then they said, “Oh, well, we can't do it today.” They left it there in our garage and we had to get somebody else on our own time. They did pay for that expense, so that's good, but it's like they didn't plan it out very well.
We've used AHS several times. Our air conditioning unit and our washing machine were fixed. Our washing machine is the worst one where they had us pick out the washing machine. They said, “Okay. Pick one out.” After they removed it, they said, “Oh, yeah. Actually there's a different hook-up here, which we wouldn't have known until basically we took it apart.” So then our washing machine sat down there, and it took almost a month and a half to finally get it resolved. It was not great. My wife made a couple trips to her mom's house to do laundry. It took way too long, and I felt like we were the ones reaching out to them. Overall, they have come through and they have paid us. They’re not an awful company, but I have had times that they have very much frustrated me.

We kept trying to bear through it, but finally, we had to call someone out. We called American Home Shield and we had a very good experience with who they sent out. He came in then he fixed the igniter and one other thing. He was in and out within under an hour and it was a very seamless process. I would recommend them. I've heard things about AHS before and I had the opposite experience of what I've heard. I like the security knowing that if something major goes wrong, we're not going to have to come out thousands.

I needed to have my ceiling fan and my air duct fixed. I called AHS and talked to someone who was very friendly. The company they assigned my claim to sent me emails and texts. Then, when I called them, I finally got ahold of someone. I had stuff replaced once before through AHS and when I talked to the contractor, they were super nice and very talkative. They also walked me through everything that was going to happen. But these people that I recently got, not so much. Even when I tried to explain to them that my contract states that certain things are supposed to be replaced with something equal of value, they said no and they put something up there. I should have called AHS, but I didn't because I was just happy that the fan was being fixed. But then it wasn't fixed and the company had to keep coming back out and fixing it. After the 30 days, the brand-new fan that they put up stopped working.
So I called American Home Shield because I didn't think I should have to pay another $100 deductible for the same product that wasn't even really the same quality with what I had. Then I find out they didn't even called AHS to get the verification, because I was supposed to get the option of either buyout or replacement. At first, AHS said that I had to pay the deductible again and that that was their company's policy.
Then they sent me to their escalation department and their escalation department gentleman said that he understood 100%. He said that if my claim went to the same company, they'd waive the $100 because I was right. I shouldn't have to pay that again, especially if it was the same company that came out to me. And it was the same company. So I didn't have to pay it. But so far, I'm still having problems with the fan and I don't want to have to keep calling. I also keep having problems with the bathroom vent and I don't think that that company that AHS sent out did what they were supposed to do.
I've been with AHS for a long time and I've never really had a problem with them. I enjoyed the company that they had that did the central air unit. He was super friendly and pretty fast. It was just the guy that was doing the vent and the fan. AHS also sent out another tech this time around because they said I didn't have to request the same guy that came out. And this time around, the gentleman who came out seemed to do a decent job.

We had a heat pump system go out and we made a claim with AHS. But the tradespeople that they had on their list was someone we've used in the past and have had a horrendous experience with. They were slow to find me another company and I spent two weeks to get a technician out there for my tenants. Then, prior to them fixing the issue, I called and requested service but they didn't get back to me. It was during a cold spell, so out of my own pocket, I had to pay somebody to go and do the repairs. But then the system failed again. So, I had to call American Home Shield because I didn't want to pay another $500 for another company. But it was difficult. They didn't have a sense of urgency at all and their people on the other end were very difficult to understand. They do not speak good English at all and had a heavy accent.
I've also done the claims process online, but I still didn't get the kind of response that I needed. We're pretty unhappy with American Home Shield and we've been thinking about changing companies. I wish that they cared more for quality of work than cutting corners and getting the cheapest technicians possible. If they paid better and they got better companies to do their work, the service would be much better. Also, they collected $100 from me for the service and I canceled it, but I never got credited for that.

I only used them once in the couple of years that I had them, but they got right on the drain clog problem that I had. When the problem wasn't resolved by the first tech who came out, they sent out another repairman to resolve it. But I switched companies recently. One thing about American Home Shield is they only take a yearly policy. I wanted to get on a multi-year plan, which runs a little cheaper.

It turned out that we have polybutylene plumbing in here, and it sprung a leak in there because it had a pinhole size leak the tech showed me. They had to cut out some of the concrete so they could get to it and then fix the leak. He was able to concrete it back in. Everything's good now. AHS is a good home warranty protection place.

American Home Shield offered a free AC tune-up and I had them come out to a rental home to do that. But their tune-up person who was doing it for free came back with $5,000 worth of repairs that needed to be done that were not covered. They were saying that it needed a capacitator and it needed Freon. And 95 percent of the $5,000 was for modifications he needed to make the supposed corrections. I was offended and I knew it was a scam. So I had someone else come out and look. They said I didn't need to make any modifications and I didn't need any Freon. All I needed was the capacitor. So, we had that done.
But the intent was get this free evaluation and whatever company American Home Shield is buttoned up with was just going to make a big payday on people. I also interacted with American Home Shield's reps over the phone and I talked to someone offshore. They were always very friendly but they never knew anything and they always said they were sorry. All in all, if you could afford not to have a home warranty company and just pay out of pocket, pay out of pocket.

When the tech came by, he looked at it and he said he'd have to check whether the repair was covered by American Home Shield or not. So, he called somebody at American Home Shield, then he told me that everything was covered. I paid $100 for him to come over and that was the only money that I paid to American Home Shield. Since the repair, the garage door has been working fine. With AHS, I don't have to worry about a big expense out of pocket, but sometimes the problem may be a small thing and $100 is too much. Despite that, it's a great insurance to have and if you have a lot of appliances in your house, I would recommend it.

The first 10 years with AHS were great. However, in the last six years, I've had a horrible experience with them on my air conditioning unit. I've had numerous service calls and there were three occasions where the same gentleman came out. He recommended that we could install a new air conditioner because mine was 35 years old. One of the main reasons why I had gotten AHS was for that particular potential problem that I could have with my air conditioner being so old. I kept on asking about it, and AHS was saying that they didn't get a notification from the people who they sent. My air conditioner was going to cost a huge amount of money and they weren't covering a huge deal of it. I kept on fighting back. I had air, but it was very weak. I don't think I was able to get my house down to 80. It was during the peak summer hours. We had to end up buying a humidifier and a window air conditioning unit.
I was counting on AHS but I had to pull money out of my own pocket to get a brand-new air conditioner. My air conditioning unit had cost me so much. The whole time that I've been with AHS that I've had to have my air conditioning repaired, it was $3,000 that I've had to put in for it and I still spent money to buy a new air conditioner. I was very tempted to discontinue AHS because of that horrible experience and the lack of promise on their behalf. But my wife convinced me to hold on to it for another year. The only reason I'm holding on to it is in case anything with my plumbing goes wrong because we've had a couple little issues here and there. We've had a leak from the sink then we had another leak two months ago. I could have replaced it, but I had AHS. They replaced a flex pipe to my faucet.

Up until this past time, American Home Shield was amazing. They send somebody out right away and they usually get the problem solved. Even though there have been issues with the heating and air guy that they sent out, they got that resolved after a year. But this last time was a nightmare. American Home Shield showed that they didn't care anything about me. The door on our washing machine was not closing correctly. We called, paid the $100 deductible, and they sent the man out within a day which was very much acceptable. When the guy got here, he indicated that the boot on the washing machine needed to be replaced. I'm not a washing machine guy so we went by what he suggested that it needed to be replaced.
American Home Shield agreed to repair the washing machine. The first time when he came out and replaced the door, he didn't plug the washing machine back up. He left it upon my 70-year-old disabled wife to climb on top of the washing machine to plug it back in. I contacted him and suggested that he come back out and connect it, but he wouldn't do it. A few days went by and the same guy came out and repaired the door, but he didn't replace the boot. I contacted him directly. He told us that if we wanted him to come back out to put the boot on, he was gonna charge us $300.
I contacted American Home Shield multiple times. Rarely do you get someone in the US so it's difficult to understand the reps. There's a language barrier. The representative told me that there was nothing wrong with the washing machine. I asked to speak to somebody else. He told me there was nobody else I could speak to. I said, "Put me in touch with somebody about canceling my contract." He got me in touch with a nice lady, and I told her what was going on. She wanted to try to get it resolved before we canceled the contract. Apparently, she contacted the guy who repaired the washing machine and he made it sound like we were the ones pushing for this extra work to be done. The guy not only lied to me but he also lied to American Home Shield. He tried to make it sound like it was my fault. I wouldn't have known the boot needed to be replaced had he not said that.
I told the rep, "If we can't resolve this, I wanna cancel it." She said, "We gotta go by what he says." I said, "We're on the same page. I want you to go by what he said. He said it needed to be replaced." She said, "Now, he's saying it doesn't." I said, "Let's just cancel the contract." She offered me no deductible on the next service. I said, "No. I want this resolved or I'm gonna cancel." She was very kind and we canceled. But she wanted to charge me for canceling. I said, "You're gonna charge me for your contractor not doing what he's supposed to do?"
I get a text message or email from American Home Shield three times a week wanting me to reconsider. The only way I will reconsider is if they send another appliance repair guy out here and replace that boot. If American Home Shield can stay away from Neff Appliance, they and future customers would benefit from that. I wouldn't recommend that contractor to anybody. He's a one-man operation 'cause we asked for a different person to come out and he's it.

I don't always have flexibility when I can have them come, but it’s usually quick.
A contractor came for the refrigerator that had ice collecting in the bottom of it. The guy seemed to do a thorough job and cleaned up after himself. However, it was weird was that they wanted me to sign a claim that there would be no liability if the repair didn't work and I lost food in the fridge. He said, “If you don't wanna sign it, I'll leave and you can call somebody else.” They fixed it at least for now. The model I have is the problem. It was part of a class action lawsuit a few years ago so I wouldn't be surprised if there's another problem with it. The only thing I don't like is that if my refrigerator goes out, I don't wanna wait forever for someone to figure out if I need a new one.

American Home Shield replaced my swimming pool pump filter. It was a huge, old style sand filter. They upgraded it and put all the plumbing in that was necessary and took care of the problem. That would have cost me about 5,000 bucks. They've also done a lot to help me with my air conditioning unit. It was lacking a part and the part had to be ordered. They had to put a urgent response on that.
Whenever I have a complaint, I call in and they make an appointment for me. If they can't answer my question, they get the answer and call me back. The office is not in the United States because the people have an accent when they talk to me. However, they've been very courteous and rapid in response to getting me any assistance that I need. They're not familiar with the geographical location so sometimes, they send people from Chandler, which is quite a ways away from where I live in Glendale. But every contractor that I've received has been a local person. They've been very professional and courteous.
If something hasn't worked, I call again and American Home Shield sends somebody else out. That contractor has to make good on the work and I don't have to repay. I'm elderly. Sometimes, if I go through a contractor that is not associated with American Home Shield, I feel I'm being cheated. However, when I work through American Home Shield, it's the best experience. Save yourself a lot of headaches and get American Home Shield. I feel more secure and safe by having this added assistance. I'm paying for it but just one replacement is worth the yearly amount. The yearly amount doesn't add up to not even 20% of what I pay.

It's very good knowing that I can reach out to American Home Shield whenever I want which was one of the problems I had with my previous provider. You call them and be on hold on the phone for four hours. With American Home Shield, within a couple of minutes, I'm on the phone with somebody and whoever picks up the phone doesn't just pass you around to different departments. They listen to you and try to help you.
Recently, I had my water heater go out. At the time, I had an open claim for my roof that I was still dealing with them. Every time I was calling, the system kept talking about that claim, so I reached out to them online. They sent Cal-Home within 24 hours. They figured out that the heater was bad and told me someone was gonna get in touch with me. Someone from American Home Shield called me and told me I had to pay $700 out of pocket for the repair. They don't repair cables, which is weird. The worker came the next day, I gave him the money, and he fixed it.
When I started my policy with American Home Shield, I wanted the top coverage and that was what I got. If I have the top coverage why am I having to come out of pocket $700 for something as little as a water heater. With my previous provider, I didn't have to do that. If there's something wrong, as long as you pay your monthly payment, they come out. You pay the come-out fee and they fix it. They don't tell you to pay a portion. For that reason, I've been rethinking.

We waited for 3 weeks for the part to arrive and ran out of patience so we cancelled the part and requested a cash out so the monies can be used towards another contractor. NOVA also tried to upcharge us 500.00 above the AHS deductible- crooks! Now since AHS declined the pay out - NOVA is now claiming that the defective HVAC is okay with just a small noise. I will NEVER deal with the lying NOVA or AHS again. So disappointed in Maryland.

I like American Home Shield and the contractors have been very good and I've never had any disrespectful person. I've been a customer for over 30 years. But I'm going to cancel them because I'm ready to go to another company where I'm only gonna be paying $55 a month. With AHS, I started off paying $50 for a person to come me, then, $75 and now, it's up to 100 and my monthly fee is $75. They've raised the price every year for the last couple of years. Also, when I submit the claim online, they take the money out immediately.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I've been using AHS for a couple of years now on both of my homes and I'm a happy customer. I like their service, their website, and how straightforward it is to book a service when I need it. Also, they're very quick to respond, quick to assign a contractor, and the quality of contractors is really good. My most recent claim was when the generator broke down. The contractor came in and fixed it. The second time they came in, they replaced it with a brand-new unit. It took three days from the day I opened up the ticket to the contractor coming in and getting the item fixed. It's a convenient service, which helps me get things fixed and limit any potential financial impact from things breaking down, and I would recommend it to anybody who owns a home.

I love American Home Shield. I use them exclusively for my rental property as well as my primary home and I have four different contracts with them. I use their website exclusively to file claims and I love the website. It has a drop down box for the four different addresses that I use and it's pretty straightforward. Then, get an email saying that a technician has been assigned and depending on the time of day, if it's after 5 p.m., nobody's gonna answer but the notification goes to the technician. The next day, the technician either calls me or I call them. But this city is a relatively small city and I've yet to know if there's a backup technician to any other categories. If a plumber cannot get here because they're inundated with work, I don't know if there's a second plumber that would come into play, like a second tier person. It seems to be the same people and I was just wondering. In the summer, the ac technicians are gonna get inundated with work and it might be, “We're gonna get there when we get there.” Other than that, I would recommend AHS to a friend.

My experience is good as long as they allow me to pick the people to work on my house. I want to do business with local vendors and not somebody coming out of Houston. I'm very adamant on that. But I know how to work around little things to get the one that I want who I know is going to do the job in my opinion correctly. If the vendor is not available, I just call the vendor and they say they are available and AHS just doesn't wanna send them the business.
My most recent claim was when I had a leaking wax seal on my toilet. Will from Action Plumbing came out and did a good job. He was very personable and he's local. But the biggest problem was the air conditioning. It went down in the middle of the summertime and the contractor did patch work, unfortunately, because that was what AHS wanted them to do. The outside unit needed to be replaced and they put everything on it, but the outside coils, which they didn't want to put on. They were afraid AHS would reject the claim because the unit was so old that they might break the veins. I didn't wanna go through another summer and run the risk of burning up. I just replaced the air conditioning system and I'm blessed I could afford it. The only reason I'm keeping AHS now is I have about three or four older appliances and they gave me enough incentives to stay with them. It's good service overall.

The dishwasher was humming and smoking. No water was getting to it and I was smelling burnt rubber-like. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and there was some miscommunication with the contractor and my information. What I put into the database for the initial appointment was not conveyed to the contracting office. I never heard from anyone and I took off from work. I was home waiting. When I didn't get the call, I called to find out when the person was coming and that's when the lady explained to me that, unfortunately, they had been trying to contact me, which I found hard to believe, and said that because they had never spoken to me or gotten any information from the warranty company, they didn't know the make and model of my appliances. Nobody would be coming out and I found that out the morning of.
I gave her the make and model and that was when they rescheduled me. They knew what I was working with and I knew who I was to expect to come out here. The tech came out two weeks later and when he did, somebody had apparently unplugged the dishwasher from under the sink, which was why the water wasn't getting to it, and the humming was because it was trying to siphon water that wasn't coming through the pipeline like it was supposed to. Once he did that and cleaned out the reservoir, he cleaned the dishwasher and cycled the whole cycle for me. It worked with no problem and it's been working since. Also, the tech was really nice and personable. He talked through the whole thing to ensure I understood what he was doing and why he was doing what he was doing.
I have recommended American Home Shield to other people. Prior to this, I had them in a previous home and when I purchased this home, the people who I purchased from bought me a contract through a different company. I waited for that one to expire and then I crossed back over as a repeat customer to American Home Shield because I like the services better.

Recently, my thermostat wasn't working. I did the claim online, and it was easy to submit. Sometimes I still have to call or update it because there's not always an exact selection for what the problem, so I either try to add notes or I call. My interactions with the reps have usually been favorable, but there were a couple of times wherein I don't feel they really understood my problem and had a bit of a language barrier, so I had to get someone else. It's been a lot of years though, and outside of that, usually, I was able to get it to resolve whatever my issues were. I like the contractors. In fact, the last few ones I've had, I've liked lots of them. I requested them if it was a similar issue or the same type of product I was having a problem with.
The contractor that came for my thermostat was good. They came back because I had an issue while they were there prior to that. They were leaving and said, "Wait a minute. Let's wait a few more minutes," and the issue wasn't totally resolved. The unit needed another part. They took care of that and that's why I made sure that the next time I had an issue I asked for that same contractor. Having American Home Shield is helpful, but sometimes people have to go through the motions a couple of times depending on what the issue is, like when I had an issue with my AC unit. That took a while to resolve. The only other thing is that the home warranty is reasonably priced, but it has gone up each year. However, I have used the service too.

I need to start looking for a new home warranty company to go through 'cause I'm not impressed or satisfied with the quality of service that I'm receiving from American Home Shield. The customer service is poor. I speak with people and there's a language barrier. When I started with American Home Shield, that was not the issue, but now, they've outsourced their work to another country, so I have that barrier.
I had a contract service call on my AC unit, and I never received the payout for that. I shared with American Home Shield that I wanted to get a new unit because of the price of the repair. Once I got the new unit, I was told that someone was gonna give me a call back because the company that did the estimate indicated that they did the repairs and closed the case out, but they never did any repairs for me. I spent $6,000 on the new unit, and I finally put it in last summer. I've been trying to get a resolution for this thing as early as last week, but I haven't been able to get one. The last time I spoke to someone about it, no one could ever help me.

I've had American Home Shield for eight years and never had any trouble. They replaced a tankless hot water heater as well as a shower valve one time. However, the last year has been not good at all. I paid them money and they've not helped me. I had two slab leaks and I didn't have any technicians. They just blew me off. I went a month and they never even got ahold of me and did anything, so I had to pay to get fixed. It cost me 100 bucks to file the claim. I also filed a claim on my ice maker and the guy came out, but even though it smelled like it was burning, he told me that it was working just fine. He just left. I'm out $200 for no reason.

The overflow tank for my water heater had a crack in it and American Home Shield called Waldorf Plumbing to do the servicing. They scheduled me very quickly, then the gentleman came out quickly as well. He was very professional. I'm a talker and I like to see what they're doing, ask questions while they're doing it, and see what it is I could do that could help in the future for some things to last longer. He was so open to answer my questions as well as so relaxed. He didn't make me feel like I was bothering him at all. The gentleman fixed the problem. However, something else happened to my water heater and he ended up coming back out and fixing some part of it. It works like a charm now. I've had hot water ever since.
American Home Shield's price went up to $100 where it used to be $79, and as a consumer, I want stuff to be cheaper. Still, I don't have one bad thing to say about them. As a matter of fact, I have to call for a service as soon as I can for my microwave. I also recommended them to my brother recently, and he said, "I'm gonna talk it over with my wife." I think they're gonna move to towards it.

I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. I used them a bit last year too on several of my rental houses and everything has worked good so far. My recent claim was a refrigerator which was not cooling efficiently in the bottom part of the fridge. Once I logged in, I filed a report. American Home Shield responded quickly with the response email, and even estimating the day and the time the technician might contact me. They had to delay that slightly. But it worked out good. They responded within three days.
I was there when the tech repaired the refrigerator. Everything went smoothly. He identified the bottom part of the refrigerator door was not closing properly. There is a possible need for a return call. I've got to determine that. My renter reported to me on email today that the refrigerator was only in the 40s on the bottom and maybe it wasn't cooling up.
When the technician adjusted the door, it was in the 30s, which is proper. I told my renter to check the door and see if the bottom left part was closed all the way, that the technician had adjusted all that and everything was worked good when he left. That was a week ago. So, I'm waiting for her to report if it has gone back to a normal temperature. If it hasn't, I would have to have him or another one come out. But I'm not gonna file that until I find out for sure.

I love American Home Shield. They just keep raising my price like everybody else. My most recent claim was for the washer. Something broke underneath the washer. It's a frontload washer. We had to have a part ordered, and they got it here at a reasonable time. It wasn't reasonable for us because we had to go to the laundromat, which I haven't done in years but it was okay. They got it when they got it. The guy came right back out and put it in. So, they took care of it. For $100, whatever breaks gets taken care of. You can't beat that.

My most recent claim would have been with my AC system. American Home Shield took my claim. They filed it. I also used them for plumbing. But I wasn't satisfied with the vendor that they sent out because they pulled my leg and were deceptive about what the issue was after I knew exactly what it was. I didn't know exactly, but I knew it wasn't what they told me.
AHS sent out a second vendor who tried the same thing. I didn't end up getting the plumbing fixed because both plumbers knew that if it was the faucet issue, that AHS wouldn't have replaced the faucet. I had done that already. And when they came, I told them that was a brand-new faucet. But they still tried to tell me that it was the faucet that was the problem. Because they knew AHS wouldn't replace the faucet, and one tried to charge me over $600 to give me a new faucet after I told them that that one was brand new yet they still claimed that the faucet was clogged, which I knew it wasn't. I'm gonna stop using AHS after I sell my house.

Ninety percent of my experience has been good with American Home Shield. Except for the last time when we had complained about our water heater not working. AHS sent somebody to inspect the water heater. We didn't hear from either AHS or that guy. That guy did not report it back to AHS. It was cold and our water heater was not working, and AHS kept telling me that, “We are waiting to hear from that guy.” If he didn't report back, AHS’ clients are not responsible. So, they should have sent somebody else and taken the investigation further. Because without the water heater in the winter, how would we take a shower?
It was more than a month before I had to fight with AHS, and I just said, “Give my $125 service fee back.” I got my water heater repaired by myself. But I've been with AHS for 13 years or more. And I've hardly had four complaints in these many years. I have three homes with them. Before, it was in California, and now in Texas. So normally, I always had a good experience with them.
I got my $125 back and I called a local plumber and changed my water heater altogether. I paid it fully. But that was a horrible experience to te extent that I just decided I would discontinue with the AHS altogether for all my homes. We have four homes registered under them. But I decided to give them one more chance. And this time, my microwave spoiled a month back, and they did a good job.

American Home Shield covers more stuff than the other ones. And the price was fair. There was a leaky faucet. I thought it was one of the lines. And it happened to be the whole faucet. Submitting the claim was fast and easy. They scheduled the repair, collected the initial fee, and let me know who the plumber would be. I requested that I'd be notified before he got there so I could make sure that I or somebody could be there. And they did. They were there on time. The plumber analyzed the problem and said, "We need to order. I don't have this part with me." And in a couple of days, they guy returned and slapped it back in. Once he had the correct part, it took him 15 minutes. That was the fourth time I've had to use them because I got a couple of properties that I live in. And they've been dependable.

At first, American Home Shield was great but after COVID and people are not wanting to work, they're having a hard time finding vendors in our area. Submitting a claim is always easy. They have no problem with accepting a claim and taking the $110 deductible every time. The problem is getting somebody to come and do the work after they take the claim.
I put in a work order on March the 14th. It's March the 26th and I haven't heard from them. I called them and they escalated it. I'm still waiting on them to call me back. The rep told me he was gonna call me back today but he has not. On Friday, they told me to give them 48 hours, which would have been tomorrow, Tuesday. In the meantime, I still got this problem under my sink and right now, I'm not happy with American Home Shield because when something breaks in your house, you want it fixed immediately, especially when it's a leak under your sink because there’s just gonna be more damage.
Also, at the end of last year, my oven went out and it took them so long to get it fixed. The contractor never came out. And we fixed my dishwasher and the contractor said my work was warrantied but then they just gave me the runaround. I just had somebody come fix it and left it alone. But when they get somebody out here, it’s good on most cases. The one bad experience I had was with the people that installed the dishwasher. There was a time when I would recommend AHS to anyone but due to COVID and not having enough workers, there's not a lot of vendors in our city. If they would allow us to find our own vendors, we could do a better job instead of them trying to find a vendor. We could find one and send them a bill and they could reimburse us the maximum amount that they would pay for that incident.

I could hardly understand what the American Home Shield reps say because of their lack of English expertise. And they couldn't do anything even when I do. I had trouble with them in the past, trying to cancel an order. I had to call the service provider, and call AHS. I had to call the service provider back. It's horrible. They're worthless. And their automated system is just as bad.
The cost keeps going up, and that sucks. And the coverage keeps going down. They put a lot of limits that they never had before. The problem is I don't know of another home warranty company that is any better. So, there's nothing I can do. I had had AHS for 20 years now, and when they started out, they were great. I was in Texas, but I moved up here, and the contractors aren't as proficient and professional as they are in Texas. There's nobody out there any better and I know people who have different companies that are no good either.
The people, the last time, that came out to see about my heater fixed it, and I haven't had any problems since. A couple of months prior, I had a company come out that I was very happy with. Fixed it and told me that it was old and would need to be replaced quickly. And it quit working almost immediately again, and they came out and said, “You're just gonna have to work with this. We can't find anything wrong with it.”
What it did was coming on and going off before it brought the temperature up enough, and it would shut off and stay off until it got ready to come on again, which could be five minutes or an hour and a half. This was back in November when we had that cold spell. So, it finally started working again okay, and it quit. It was past the 30 days. It was two months later was when the latest people came out. And they replaced the board on it. It didn't take them two minutes to fix that, and it has been working fine since. So, it took a little work to get there, but we did.

I called American Home Shield and reported that I was leaking water from my hot water heater in the basement and felt that the water pressure was too high. Their service call fees are too high, but their customer service rep was fine. Because the hot water heater was leaking, the hot water heater shut off. So, we had no hot water. It took a couple of days to get somebody out to the house. I got impatient and I called the local water company. They came out and told me my water pressure was too high. I needed a new regulator.
I informed the plumbing company that that was what the water company said. I got impatient and I turned the pressure down on the regulator. The plumber showed up and said, "Well, I don't see a problem here, so give me my $150 and I'll be gone." I explained to him that I had made the adjustment on the regulator, but I still felt that there was a problem. I haven't called them back but the water pressure has increased by itself again. So, I know the regulator is bad. I'm not gonna pay them another $150 for them to come out and do nothing. So, I will be handling this call on my own. The people from the company who came out were polite, but they really didn't seem to care that there was a problem. In fact, they told me to go get my own water pressure gauge so I could keep an eye on it.

My hot water heater went out. I called American Home Shield and couldn't find nobody in the area to dop anything. Kept telling me, "We're gonna send somebody." Somebody never came, and here it's going on past the month. My husband said, "I can't keep getting warm water." I can't keep getting my grand babies that go to school doing the same thing. It was mind-boggling and frustrating. So, I took it upon myself. I called them and said, "I can't keep doing this." I didn't know that I had to call them and get approval to get somebody out there to look at it. It was hard because I'm in a rural area. It's hard to get some help. I finally got a guy and he was nice. But I did not know I had to go through AHS first to get all of this stuff done.
I went to Home Depot and purchased this hot water heater. The guy took it out and installed, and sent AHS a receipt. I thought he would send it to them. But it was too late because they said I didn't go by proper channels. So I said, "That's okay. No problem. What would you do if you were in my situation? Would you keep on warming water?" You wanna get up with warm water every morning. I said, "Anyway, don't worry about it. You don't have to give me nothing. I got my heater replaced. We've got hot water, I'm fine." I was under the assumption that you just get the hot water heater and give them the receipt and you're good. But that wasn't the case. So, that didn't work.
My furnace messed up. That was another thing. AHS couldn't find anybody to do that. I just called in a week ago to cancel the thing. But the rep told me to not cancel and she would send somebody out there to check it. But she couldn't. I told them, "You're selling services that you can't render. So, I'm sick of this." I might as well just save my money and pay for my stuff out-of-pocket. Because my experiences are driving me crazy.
I had the unit replaced. I had to pay $555 difference, and the ductwork deal. I said, "Y'all and these people, you're not concerned about your customers." Because they would tell me anything. I thought she said, "I'm gonna give you the cash." I said the contractor didn't do anything. They came out here talking about they would clean my vent, clean the ductwork. And she said, "No, we don't do that." I said, "I know you don't do it because after they told me that, they gonna call back and tell me that y'all don't do it." But I could pay some extra money and they would come back and do it. She said, "What?" I said, "Yeah, that's what they told me."
I said, "Now, what does that sound like?" So, they would say one thing, but tell something different. I said, "But y'all need to check up on these people. And they got the attitude." They bought a part out here that I paid $555 that they said AHS did not cover. And they took that new part back with them. They said it wouldn't fit. They didn't try to put it in. All I knew was they took it back with them. I called AHS and the contractor. I don't know what they did about it, but I reported it. I said I was very dissatisfied. Because I know what I paid and I didn't feel I got what I paid for.
They wrote it up saying that this is what AHS wouldn't cover. And the difference I have on that unit was 555. So on the ductwork, they told me that was the vendor that would do it. And he said, "We're gonna clean your ductwork." I said, "Okay." They came out there. They went up there and looked at it. But see, I had no idea that AHS repaired the ductwork. They don't clean them. They had me on the assumption that the people that came out there clean them. That's what they told me. "We're gonna clean them." "Okay." So I didn't have any idea until AHS told me, "Ma'am, we don't clean. We don't do no cleaning. We replace." I said "What?"
But they called me back in the meantime and said, "Yeah, they don't do it but you can pay us and we'll clean it." I said, "Hell no. I'm not doing that. I'm not paying. I paid y'all 555 and I think you got over me and them. But you think you're gonna come back and go behind me, go behind them. And come back and tell me that you'll come back and clean them if I pay you X amount of dollars. I'm not paying you a damn thing. And don't you never come back to my house."
I told them, "Don't you send them back out here? But y'all need to do something. Y'all need to check up on them, because I don't know them in my place no more." That was when the lady said, "I'll get somebody out there to come back and go back through and look at it, make sure everything is fine." I said, "'Cause I don't think they did nothing to the ductwork. They went up there with some of that foam stuff. They may have sprayed some up there. I don't know, but they didn't do anything to it. And they tell y'all that the order is complete and you believe them." I said, "I'm disgusted and I don't want anything else to do with this.
I said, "I just wanna cancel and I'll just let it go. I'm good." The lady said, "Oh, no." I said, "No, it's just too much stuff going on. No, I'll just do what I gotta do." So, that's the point I was at. When she called and told me, "You have the option to take the cash out or to get another vendor to come out there and look." So, I finally got a guy to come out hereto check it, and send me the copy. But when I did that, she said it was already closed. She said they had called and told that it was complete. So, I was, "That's fine with me then. It's complete if they say they completed it."
That's when I said, "I'm out of here. If y'all gonna believe them, okay, that's fine." Because they have not done anything to say that they had completed the job. And she said that's what they said. That was when I said, "You called me. So don't call back or send me something. I'm through with it." I'm dropping AHS. I am gonna call as soon as I get home. I'm not going through that anymore.
Dear Janet, I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss this further. Sincerely, Mariah

My garage door opener was not functioning correctly, and I had an electrical issue. I also had a claim for a refrigerator to be repaired. I do my claims to American Home Shield on the phone. Their customer service has been excellent. The process is fast and easy, and I can understand whoever I'm talking to.
Thank you so much for the great review! If there are any other services you need, please visit our website ahs.com.
Best wishes,Stacy

I used American Home Shield number of times on different occasions. They're good at assigning the contractors. The most recent claim was my dishwasher. Somebody came out. They checked my dishwasher. It was not fixable. They said they were gonna replace it. So, they sent me a list of dishwashers I can select from. I selected the one I like, and they came and installed it. The first technician was not very flexible with the timing. They gave me a window to come and check my equipment. And the window time was 8 AM to 5 PM. That's not a window. That's a whole day. They can't expect me to stay home for them from 8 AM to 5 PM. Usually, there's a two-hour window or four-hour window. So, that is something I did not like. I told him, "You have to give me a small window." He said he couldn't. I said, "Well, I don't want you, then." They sent somebody else the next day from his company.
The thing with AHS is, you have to precisely tell them each and everything you wanted to be fixed. So, I thought plumbing means they will fix everything in the plumbing, but I have to be precise, like which tap, which room, or which sink. So if I tell them, "I need an electrical work done. I need light bulbs changed," I have to exactly tell them how many light bulbs, which room, and which area. They won't do anything apart from that. I think that's just their way of working but that is something I don't like it. Overall, I like AHS. It's convenient to just give them a call, and they will have somebody over our house in a day or two, and things get resolved.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.
Sincerely,Stacy

At times, American Home Shield has been good. But they also seem to work harder denying my claim than getting it fixed. I file claims by phone. I don't do it online. Could get messed up there easily. My bathtub plug, the mechanism that drains it, went bad. The bathtub is probably 30 years old. AHS sent a plumber out to look at it. They ordered the part. Didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks so I called them this morning, to see what was going on. But they sent me back emails saying that I've had to pay for the part to put it in. It would be $250.
My wife and I have been retired for several years. But the kids never lived in this house. And there was a note on there that says because of the abuse. Who would abuse on the plug to the bathtub? The bathtub is probably 40 years old. We pay $120 a month now, plus a $75 service charge. I can understand them questioning things. But if they advertise something, they should honor their contract. But my experience with my bathtub has not been good. I don't like to have to escalate things and jump through hoops because I shouldn't have to do that.
The guy that does my pool who has been here over the last six years several times is first class. Once in a while, I would get somebody who is a little hard to understand, but it's not their fault. And I work with that. I understand it's their job. The last plumber to come, young, nice guy. They were courteous. But when he sent his note back saying the part had been abused, and I read that, all that told me was they were looking for reasons not to have to fix something. That's sad. I thought about dropping AHS lately, but I'll give them one more year.

I had a claim for my oven door that was busted. The people that came to the house were fine. However, American Home Shield refused to replace the oven because they said it wasn't natural wear and tear, although it was an internal spring that caused the door to fall. However, it broke. So, the glass shattered and they refused to. It should be replaced by AHS because it's not anything that caused it to do that other than the door itself. It doesn't make sense to me. We got a second opinion. The contractor came out, said the same thing. But AHS still refused to pay. They just kept saying, "There's nothing we can do." And they wouldn't let us talk to a manager. They were very rude. So, I am quitting with AHS here very soon.
Dear Jennifer, I understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to contact us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can talk more about your experience. Sincerely, Mariah
