I've always had great luck with American Home Shield. I liked the service. I've had them for about seven years, but I'm not using them anymore. Their price got ridiculous. Their premium jacked up on me $500 in two years. I can't afford this $1,300 for a premium. So, I'll be checking with somebody else. The claims process was easy to do. The only problem I have with them is there's no way to talk to anybody on the phone. I have no phone number if there's a problem. Everything is done online except for when they send you the bill. For the most part, the techs are qualified. They get here on time. They're usually friendly and the job gets done.
Dear Ted, we greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.
Sincerely,

The thermal expansion tank sprung a leak, and I put in the ticket to American Home Shield on Sunday night. On Monday morning I got a call, and they said, "We can be there before noon," and I said, "Great, see you then." They came out. It was great. The technician was very friendly. He was very professional. He got in and I asked a couple of questions, and he explained everything. Everything is good.
I like that when there's a problem, I don't have to worry about trying to figure out who can fix it and trying to get stuff done. I just call AHS and they get somebody out here and get it fixed. Sometimes, I wonder about some of the companies that they have contracted to do. For our air conditioning unit, for the past 15 years, it seems like every year I have to call and get at some point, and they have to come out and they have to put more Freon in it. I keep wondering when’s the point they’re gonna replace it. They just keep Band-Aiding it. AHS approves only Band-Aid fixes and not complete replacements. I just had to have the inside coils replaced again, and it still cost me over $2,000 because the unit is so old that the Freon is over $200 a pound, and they have to put 10 pounds in.
Other than that, I keep the service. We've been living here for 19 years, and we had American Home Shield at our previous house. I've thought about just canceling and taking the money that I'm giving to American Home Shield and just putting it in the savings account and then using it for fixes, but the convenience of having American Home Shield handle things makes it all worth it.
Kellie, on behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to thank you for using us for (insert service they received), your feedback is appreciated. We’ll be here when you need us.

I like the satisfaction of knowing that American Home Shield is there to help us when we have problems. The wife would call the 1-800 number, and we would have to make the payment of $100, and somebody would come online and talk to us and find out what the problem is. We would submit the claim, and AHS would get a hold of a contractor in our area. They would reach out to AHS, and either accept our claim, or if they deny it, they would find another person to come out. And they would say, “Okay. Your contractor has been reached. They'll reach out to you within 24 hours to touch base with you to come and check you out.” We had an older washer. Something was loose in there and it caused the motor to go out. The contractor ordered the new parts and got it working for my wife again.
Clayton, we appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

My experience with American Home Shield recently has been okay because I threatened to leave all the time. They're not good. One of their biggest faults which makes me wanna leave every year is that if you have a problem, their frontline people can't help you. They give you the wrong information. They're reluctant to do anything. They're outsourced to foreign countries and you can barely understand what they're talking about. They don't understand what you're talking about. They don't have good answers for you and there are too many steps.
Most importantly, and what's gonna make me leave this company eventually is that if you have a big problem, you have to wait for a supervisor sometimes 24 to 48 hours, and they hardly call back unless you get extremely firm, extremely nasty, and threaten to leave the company. They don't call you back. It's almost as if they try to get away with trying to call you back as if they try to frustrate the customer. They've even frustrated me to the point where I just say, “Forget it.” I've been with them for nine years. Their supervisors are not there for you. There are too many steps for approvals, and they try to do everything they can do to get out of giving you what you need and what you pay for. So, it's not a very good reference. I'm the type of persistent person that's going to make them do their jobs. Most people will just walk away. About all of my friends have dropped them.
One benefit of staying with them is they pick up the phone. They're there 24 hours. Even if you can't get a ticket made, it's nice to know that if you have an emergency at one o'clock in the morning, you can call. You may have to call back, but that's always a comfort to know that they're there. The procedures are too lengthy but they do offer that they will replace items. They have replaced things that were broken. The fact that they do that is okay.
The companies that they choose could be improved, but they're not so bad. I just had one where I was supposed to pay out $450 in addition to the $100 that I spent, which would have been $550 because the contractor said that the problem was not with the structure of my house. I did get an electrician to come out, and the problem was with the structure of my house and everything is working fine. So, I feel like I lost $100 because they gave me false information. However, I coaxed them into giving me something back. In other words, when I call, they'll waive a fee for me, which essentially is $100 back in my pocket only if I call. So, I think that these contractors that they send out, although some of them are good, are not the best, and their job is to say nothing's wrong when clearly there’s something wrong. That seems to be an understanding that they have with the contractor to avoid paying.
Their prices and their service could be adjusted. I'm paying $1,000 and a $100 fee every time I call somebody. For the many times that I called, I probably could have called a contractor and spent less money. They contract out a little bit, too. I understand agencies are saving money by contracting, but the people that they get are not dedicated to the job and they don't really care because they're in a different country and seem to be no consequences if they make mistakes or they frustrate a customer.

American Home Shield's service is okay once you get finally past the initial process. You very seldom get an American rep so it's hard to understand and relay what your reason of calling is. There was a claim I did for an air conditioner service and American Home Shield kept sending the same contractor three times. That contractor doesn't even come to my area. I had to make five phone calls just to finally get somebody out.
I recently had two claims. The first one was on my pool and that went well. I got my air condition out now and I'm on day 13 or 14 with no air. We called the contractor and they said that they haven't received the work order yet. They came and looked at the issue last week. I assume it's gonna hopefully be in the works this week. I hope this home warranty improves on promptness. That aside, one benefit of having the warranty is not having the big out of pocket expense.
Kristy, we appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

Having a home warranty policy with American Home Shield is a good deal. $75 every time the contractor comes out is good. And when I call AHS, they answer me right offhand. They always call me back the same day, have the people call me back the same day about when they would come out. The techs are good.

The gasket when you shut the drawer so the cold air doesn't get out and warm air doesn't get in was loose and it was misaligned, and so everything that was in the freezer thawed out. So, we made a claim to American Home Shield. Their procedure is you make a claim, they deduct the deductible, which in my case is $100, and then they turn that over as a service request to the appropriate entity, and in this case, it was Aurora Appliance Repair. The guy came out and he looked at it, and he said that he needed to order a new gasket. So, he ordered the new gasket and he scheduled a time with me when the new gasket was in to come out and put it in, and he did.
There was a prior incident. I had a backup in my kitchen sink, and I liked the old plumber that American Home Shield sent. The guy that owned the company was a jerk, but his guy that he sent was honest. He was really good. He sent out a new guy, and the new guy did the job, snaking the clog out of the kitchen sink. The owner of the company said, "The hot water heater, if it's not up to code, it could cost you up to like $3,000, $4,000 beyond what American Home Shield will pay." So, the guy was trying to bill the ticket on me. This is the owner of the company. I did not pick that. I called the manufacturer of the actual hot water heater that I have and I asked, "Is this still up to code?" The lady said, "Yeah, it's still up to code."
So, I don't like when AHS sends out somebody that tries to bill the ticket at my expense. Why would you have insurance if you're gonna get a plumber that comes out and decides he wants to charge American Home Shield X, and then he wants to charge you Y as the homeowner? So, I did not like their plumbing contractor. I did like Aurora Appliance Repair. I would like to see American Home Shield send their old plumber that they used to send instead of this new guy.
Also, like all end-stage capitalism entities, any time you try to contact American Home Shield's customer service, you're in a soul-sucking black hole. You end up screaming, "Agent, agent, agent" to get through their artificial intelligence, which never quite seems to match the problem that you have. Then, finally when you get an agent, they're usually in another country, and English is not their first language, and you're sitting there, and they have no power to solve whatever problem it is. So, I'm not really thrilled about that on the part of American Home Shield.
Another thing that I'm not thrilled about is they tried to upgrade to increase profits for shareholders. The problem is that their upgrade wasn't worth it. They wanted to double my premiums, and I wasn't gonna get double the level of service. So, I kept the old plan that I had, which I can't understand why the new thing that they offered for such a huge price upgrade was any better. They seem to care more about shareholder profits than they do about the policyholders.

I call American Home Shield to submit claims. They acknowledge it with an email. They tell me by email who would call and who was the assigned contractor. And the contractors so far that they sent out have always been very nice, good, and quick. I had a plumbing issue with a spigot. AHS didn't cover the replacement of the spigot but they covered the repair that was needed to go through the dry wall the plumber had to do in order to get to the spigot.

My water heater broke. The top valving started leaking, and it shut off. I was able to get the claim through. American Home Shield got people out. It was a great experience. They covered a decent chunk of it, and it was very pleasant. I've had to replace water heaters before, and it can get pretty expensive. They covered probably half of it, which is great. The valve and everything got replaced, and they added shut-off. The initial estimate was only a couple of days. It did take a few days to get it done, but I'm in Fort Smith and there aren't that many technicians around. It was a couple hour process to get in and check it all out and make sure there wasn't any horrible behind the scenes.
Then they did have to put in a request to replace it, which took about a week. That was okay. I think if they could have gotten that process a little bit faster, it would have been nice but overall, I'm pretty laid back so that's not a deal breaker to me for saving as much money as I did. Once they had it authorized, they came out within two days.
The guys they had come out did great work. So, I have zero problems with the guys AHS was using. Having the warranty is peace of mind, and if something does go wrong, it'll help you defer quite a bit of the cost of things that can go wrong, especially in the first year or two. I am thinking of re-upping it at least once because of the AC unit. To replace that nowadays is ungodly expensive. I would definitely recommend AHS to other people.

Epic Heating and Air came out when my air conditioner wasn't working. My appointment was for a certain hour and they were here five minutes after the first part of it. The tech, Dennis, was extremely professional. He found that the person who had done the repair on the furnace last fall hooked up the low blow for the air conditioners. Dennis exchanged it and put in the high blow and the air conditioner worked fine. He was very quick and knowledgeable. If we ever have Epic again, I would like him to be the one to come. Also, we've been pleased with how fast American Home Shield comes.

I went on the American Home Shield website, put down I had a plumbing problem, and requested a technician. AHS did the work within a day. Once I've been assigned a company, I would call them up. Because sometimes the assigned companies could be a little slow by a day or two. The contractor set me up for a visit a few days later. The technician showed up, fixed the problem and left. The copay is $125 every time I get a serviceman, and that's high. But AHS is easy to work with.

They give a window from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM but I have to go to work and to wait for them for four hours or five hours is a little bit difficult. But if there is a possibility to do one hour windows for example, between 8:00 to 9:00, at least, I can take permission from my supervisor. I can try to accommodate. They said they will give us a notice of half an hour so we can check otherwise if it's okay. One time, I had an appointment for my AC and the tech gave me half an hour earlier in notification text. I didn't receive that text and when he reached, he called me. I told him I was a little bit far away and asked him to wait 10 minutes. But I couldn't make it and I asked if he could make it another 10 minutes. He could not and he told me I need to make another appointment. I'm happy with American Home Shield. I wish I had them for years. I saw an ad on TV for a $15 a month special. My son has had a different company, and he had trouble with it. He said the air conditioner went out and it took two weeks for them to call back. I thought if I had a problem like that, I couldn't wait two weeks. I'm old, and I can't handle heat. But for the price, I would give it a try. So, I went ahead and ordered it. I had a plumbing issue. American Home Shield called back instantly and had someone scheduled the next day. I was very pleased with them.
The tech came out and checked everything thoroughly and found that the hose on my washer was not tightened down well. It was a new washer. That was not under the warranty because I just got the basic plan. So, he diagnosed the problem and said, “I can't fix it under your warranty.” I said, “If you have time to put new hoses on, I will pay you for another call on my side,” ‘cause it wasn't warranty. And he fixed it. He was very good. I plan to renew my policy and I will put everything on it next time. I just thought I would get the $15 a month program, and if it was not very good, I would not be out a lot of money. It would have been worth getting the bigger program. But I'm thrilled with it. I'll tell my son to use AHS when it's time to renew his policy with his company.

We've had a very positive experience with American Home Shield. I've had three claims altogether. One was a few months ago, and it was really great. The guy who came out was wonderful. Then, we had two recently, and American Home Shield was very good to get somebody to call us within 24 hours and come out. The customer service reps have been very diligent about getting people out, and they've been very pleasant on the phone with us. So, I would definitely refer somebody to them. We've had several problems and to have an electrician come out on our own for the appliances or our furnace would have been very expensive. Whereas with AHS, we just pay $125, and they have the person come out. I wouldn't know who to call, and the people they sent out have been very professional.

I like having American Home Shield and they have done a great job. However, I thought the contractor sent by AHS would be able to tell me why I had a crack at the bottom of my shower that created a water damage under the flooring of my shower. But they were a regular plumbing company and they had nothing to do with anything. They said that AHS gave somebody else to handle something and I was told that it wasn't covered. So, I just said, "To hell with it," and I paid to have my problem fixed. I don't know why AHS sent that particular company out. I would love to get my $100 back, but I assume they ate that up. But AHS put a new dishwasher in. I was very pleased with how fast they handled that. I was also very pleased with the people that AHS sent out for the garage door and that got fixed.

I had a leak from a pipe. I called American Home Shield. Most of the time when I call, it'll ring a few times. You're gonna end up getting the automated system. I like to talk to a rep, so I don't like to talk to the automatic thing. So, I let it go through their spiel, and then I ask for the rep. Then I get a rep. They give me the name of the person coming out and the phone number. They would send me an email and all that good stuff. Sometimes, you’d get a picture of the person that’s showing up. I've not had any problem with any contractor. My problem is sometimes they weren't that sure when they're gonna show.
So far, every time I've called AHS, they had somebody come out and take care of my problem. I've had more positive calls from them. The main thing is reading the contract they send. Make sure you know exactly what's in there. A couple of times, I had a problem with something, and it wasn't part of the contract. I just went and found somebody else to resolve the problem. Then I called AHS and added that part of my contract. So far, they've taken care of my issues. There maybe a couple of times where it wasn't as fast as I wanted it, but other than that, I don't have an issue.

American Home Shield is a good company. Recently, the broiler's element and the dishwasher's motor went out. I submitted my claim online and was notified promptly who the vendor would be to repair them. A lot of times I would call. When I find out who it is, I would call them and get the appointment set up because sometimes they wouldn't call back quickly. The recent tech was a young, very personable and professional man. He diagnosed everything. He told us what was wrong. The parts had to be ordered. But he came back within a week and repaired. When he repaired the dishwasher, he looked at the broiler element. He came back in a few days with a new broiler element. He took care of the problems.

American Home Shield is having a hard time right now at keeping quality contractors. So, I've had some not so good, and I've had some that were great. Fix-It Now came out recently for a bad motor on the compressor. When I first turned the claim in, they came the next day. Then we had to wait a week for the motor to come in. Their work ethic was impressive. These boys were really nice, really smart, really courteous, and on time. AHS should get rid of the bad contractors. They've got a set of contractors that are really nice people, but they don't really know much about what they're doing. This company came out. It was on my icemaker in my refrigerator. They would try to work on it, and it wouldn't work. They'd order a part. They'd come back, and it wouldn't work. It needed this and needed that. I finally did tell American Home Shield about that. For the most part, the American Home Shield works. They have their issues, but I still keep them on because it's more pros than cons. It's a good service to have to avoid any surprising big cost that I have to do to fix my home. I refer them. I just make sure that I give others that disclaimer. I had issues to do the online stuff. Because they changed the contract number every year, and I have to go in there and change it. So, I had to call AHS directly and ask one of their operators to set it up for me.
Sometimes, they're hard to understand. And a lot of times, they read from a script. But a lot of these companies, when they outsource the customer service, you get people with thick accents. I've had issues where I tried to call them and figure something out, and they just didn't understand me and it was hard to understand them. This time wasn't too bad because it was simple. I had issues with my toilet at one of my rentals. I put in a claim request, and someone came out and fixed the toilet.
The only bad experience I had was for my air conditioning. I had two companies come out, and they couldn't figure out what was going on. The third company came out and the guy figured it out. Other than that, they usually come out, get the job done. It's weird that I have to pay upfront before the service is done. There's a $130 service request fee, and they would charge me that as soon as I made the request. I've had times when they charged me, but the problem either worked itself out, or I ended up having to fix it myself because someone took too long to come. It's a pain in the butt. I gotta call them to try to get that money back. But I wish they would charge it after the service is done.

My most recent claim was for the HVAC system. A condenser broke and there was a problem with the evaporator. But AHS doesn't cover certain aspects, which seems absurd. They're very particular about it. The Freon was gone so they had me pay for it. The air conditioner worked but it was still leaking. The technician recommended replacing the condenser and evaporator and for them to come back and do everything, it took about three weeks. I had to deal with the tenant who was extremely upset because it was in the summer.
Also, sometimes AHS forces us to use a vendor, which is a big problem. There are some vendors that are really good, genuine, and would try to solve. But some vendors don't want to do the repair because it doesn't work for them. I had a similar issue where the washing machine stopped and the technician came back and said we are overloading it. There is an indicator if it is overloaded and it will stop. He said we made it use more than what it can and they didn't cover it. I had to fight with AHS to have a second person and the second person came and resolved it in half an hour.
For the water heater, AHS covers the water heater but they don't cover the parts. The people that are coming to repair try to charge arm and leg for replacing those parts. I paid about $250 extra on top of what I got from AHS for that service request but if I had gone through their recommended vendor, they were asking for $860. One part of the problem that I have challenges, they increased recently prices on me. I may be switching to a different company.

The air conditioner went out. My experience with American Home Shield when I submitted a claim was crappy, and I did away with them. They sent a technician out. This was Wednesday when I called them, and they told me they were gonna send a technician. Then, they told me who it was. After I got off the phone with them, I looked it up and the technician was coming from Montgomery. I live 120 something miles from Montgomery. So, I called AHS back and told them, "Hey, y'all ain't got anybody over here that works on air conditions for y'all? I'm right here right next to Columbus, Georgia. I can walk from my house to downtown Columbus in less than 10 minutes." They told me no and that the ticket has already been done and they had technicians over here that work for that company. I said, "Okay, fine."
They got a guy who came over. He worked on my system. It ran for about three hours and then it shut off. I called them back, and they told me that they were not gonna be able to get somebody out to me until that following Tuesday. So, I was left in a hot home. I had to go to the Home Depot and buy some temporary units to set up in my house just to keep cool. I didn't have a good experience with them. They showed up Tuesday, and it was two other boys that were coming in. They checked the unit outside and they said, "Well, for some reason, it's not cutting on." So, they came inside and they did their thing on the inside. One of them said I had a Freon leak in the coil. My unit is roughly 38 years old. The guy said, "Well, really, you need a whole new unit." I told him, "Okay. That's fine with me." But he said, "Well, American Home Shield ain't gonna do that. They're just gonna patch whatever is wrong." So, they're just gonna patch me.
I said, "Well, ain't you the technician, ain't you the one that's reporting to them? Tell them then, 'Hey, he needs a new unit.'" He said, "Well, yeah, but they're only gonna wanna know what it's gonna take to fix it." Then he said, "Well, the unit is so old, we may not be able to find a part to it. So if we don't find a part, we'll just have to replace the inside unit." I said, "Well, whatever." He wrote it up and they left. While they were doing that, I was getting more and more pissed off. So, I called one of the local air conditioner companies and told them if they would send somebody out to give me a estimate on a new unit. They were there within two hours and gave me an estimate. They came out the very next morning and put me a new air conditioning system in.
I am dissatisfied with AHS I cancelled the whole thing. They called me back wanting to know, if they went ahead and gave me some money, that they would make it right and come out and fix the unit. I said, "No. I've already got a new unit. Don't worry about it." They had four people call me and tell me they were gonna give me money, and they would come out and get it done.

We are happy about American Home Shield. Whenever we call, they have the right person to come in and fix it. Calling is easier to explain what's going on with the thing. The reps are very nice people. They make sure that they hear what my problem is. And they immediately put a note on it, and somebody calls me. They say it's 24 to 48 hours. But normally, somebody calls me the next working day. They come and give the correct window time. They are here on time. If they said 2:00 to 4:00, they would come around 2:30. I normally ask them to call me. They do call ahead of time so I would be ready for them. They finish up the job, and just leave.
The latest one is my refrigerator. My freezer worked, but my fridge side did not. A GE person came in and fixed it. It worked, but it made much noise. So, I called AHS again two days later. And they sent in another person to fix that noise. They came out and did the job perfectly. AHS is doing a wonderful job. I recommended AHS to my next-door neighbor to call in. I hope they maintain the same thing.

American Home Shield normally gets somebody out there when there's a problem. But it's not always fixed. I've had the contractors out four times on the refrigerator in the last several years, and it froze back up again. But I couldn't afford to pay them another $100. The guy that came out there previously with the same company left a part off the AC on the top of the AC, and I had to call again and pay another $100. He came in and said, “I found the problem right away.” He said the part that hooks in to make the unit runs was laying on top of the AC unit. And that was Fox. So I asked, “Why would I have to pay another $100 for when it's not my fault?” AHS' rep said he would turn it over to somebody and they would get in touch with me. They sent me an email but I haven't heard from anybody. But the technician was very nice.

Submitting claims online is straightforward, although there are some options lacking. Also, everything has been positive with the contractors but there was one time, I placed the request and even before the guy came, he marked the case as closed. I submitted a refund request, but I don't know if they actually submitted the refund or not. Most recently, the sink in the bathroom was not draining properly and the technician arrived on time. He went to the chemical drain approach and did the job in less than 10 minutes. AHS is worth the money and it's peace of mind.

Since we moved in the house, we've been having problems with the air conditioner. American Home Shield has just been piecemealing it back together. We've had the issue for about four times, and every time someone comes out, we gotta give another deductible of 100 bucks. That kinda aggravates me some because they know what the problem is. They come out, the guy works with it for about a half an hour to 45 minutes, he puts on a part, and he says, "Well, you know, I could have fixed the whole thing and nobody would have to come back here for a few years, but American Home Shield doesn't work like that. They'll piecemeal the thing together until it's fixed." Meanwhile, I gotta keep paying a $100 deductible, and if it's the air conditioner, I gotta wait four days for the people to come out. The contractors are clean and nice, but they could only do what American Home Shield lets them do. I have no complaints with the contractors.
As far as the customer representatives, you could barely understand them because they're all foreigners, and they lie to you. They lie a lot. They said that Crispy Air was coming out. I called Crispy Air and Crispy Air said, "We told them that we would be out on Thursday, not today." Once Crispy Air got the assignment, they would send me their own time thing. Also, every time you call back, the reps don't check their records to keep up on their lies. I gotta tell them, "Look, I just called you an hour ago, y'all told me to call back a half hour ago to see where the guy is. Now, you're telling me that you want me to call back in another half hour?" I called back after another half hour and they said, "Oh, your case has been re-assigned to another contractor." So, now, that's another two days you gotta wait.

I had claims for the refrigerator that was leaking from the front and the dryer that wasn't drying. I called in and talked to a customer service representative. I got through to an agent immediately, even though it said there was a 10-minute wait period. Their reps are always friendly and although sometimes, I can be rough with them, they're always nice. They sent me the contractor's name, address, and phone number and the contractor came out. The dryer is working very well now but they haven't finished the refrigerator.

We've been with American Home Shield for at least five years and the service wherever we've been connected to has always been good. Last time, AHS was calling for me to renew and I said I already sent the check in the mail. The rep asked if there was anything and I said I need to have someone come and look at the pool. He did the $75 fee right then and there. So, I didn't have to do anything for that one. But submitting a claim is always just checking off boxes and if you can see your appliance, the name of it and the serial number, you input that stuff and they hook you up. The tech for the pool was great. He ordered the parts on a Thursday and he came out the following Tuesday.
When the tech came out to fix our oven, he noticed that there was something else that needed fixing with it. So, he called American Home Shield and they approved it. So, he was able to order all parts and fixed it all. When the techs see something that’s going out next, they’ll see if they can get it covered. So, I like that about the appliance company that comes out for our appliances.

Even though American Home Shield says if they can’t fix a thing, they will replace it, that’s not the deal. Something inside was wrong with the air conditioning and American Home Shield sent over United Air Temp. They checked it out and because it's an old unit, they said that I'll be better replacing it. He called AHS and was told that because it was still working, they weren't gonna replace it. He also asked AHS since they weren’t gonna replace the AC unit, if they could give the customer some kind of an incentive or discount, and they said no. So it's taking me away from American Home Shield. I've always believed in them because I had them for a long time and I didn't think that that was gonna happen.
I got a little discouraged. I will not recommend AHS even though I recommend them to a lot of people in my family and friends that I know in my job, and a lot of them got it. One or two of them said AHS was not working for them and I asked them why, and they told me the different things. I said it's been working for me okay, until now when it really counts. AHS should improve for me because I've been a customer of them for a long time. I went away from them and I tried something else. That didn't work and I came back. AHS increased our monthly fee, so I went away again. And I came back. That should show for something.

American Home Shield always does a good job but I’ve never worked with the technician. He came to my house and assessed the issue but he did not fix it. His recommendation was to get a new compressor. And he told me, “Have somebody that can do it.” The person called and said $9,000. I checked and when you go to Home Depot, you can get a $2,000 compressor. I didn't like the service at all. I’m not happy. He said everything was done but he didn’t do anything. Money was taken out of my account and he was supposed to say that nothing was done because I want a second opinion. In case the second opinion comes, American Home Shield said they’re going to charge me. Since I’ve been with AHS, that technician was the first one I was so unhappy with. I recently bought a house and I had my AC looked at. The guy who did the AC was very helpful. He told me what I need to do as far as maintenance on the AC on a regular basis. I also had a guy deal with a hot water heater issue. And then, a guy came out for the dishwasher and the washer and dryer. Somebody came out and changed the locks too. Everybody I dealt with was very professional and friendly. I asked them a question about other stuff while they were here, because I knew they were an expert on those matters, and they let me know what I would need to do to resolve those other things. So I appreciate the service I've gotten from at least four different people. My service from all of them was very good.

My garbage disposal blew up and caught fire, and the one plumber that we used was booked. They're the ones that we use the most on our claims and they are wonderful so I didn't mind waiting a week. But that was the first time in two years that American Home Shield was not almost next day, and that was just due to the plumbing company. We're in a smaller area so AHS is limited on who can come out. I've had a couple of clogged sinks, a leaking toile and I had a leaking pipe under the ground last summer that had a $1,000 electric bill and they were able to get out here and get everything taken care of quickly.
During the summer, AHS had a sister company that was offering a special to get your AC unit cleaned and I signed up for that. AHS scheduled it, got everybody scheduled to come out and the dude never showed up. He wouldn't return any phone calls. Then, it took me almost three months to get my money back from American Home Shield. But they returned it. It's a nice benefit to know 100 bucks is survivable especially in today's economy and not having to figure out how to come up with $600 when something major happens.

On May 1st, I noticed that my upstairs bathroom's ceiling was leaking water. I called AHS on May 2nd. They said that they created a ticket for a plumber to come out and see what was leaking. It usually takes 24-48 hours before one of the contractor's contact me. No one ever called in that time so I had to call AHS again on the 5th. The operator told me to wait another 24 hours. I called back on the 6th and requested that another contractor be assigned to me. A day later on the 7th, Brauer's Mechanical called and put me on the schedule for the 10th. On the 10th, Brauer's Mechanical came to my house and said that my hot water heater was "busted." I called AHS the same day and they said that they had to wait for the contractor to send in a report and that it will take at least another 24 hours. By this time, both my upstairs bathroom and the bathroom underneath had severe water damage.
I had buckets in the floor that had to be changed at least once every 2 days. Basically, it took another day before the report came to AHS and they informed me that now they had to order the hot water heater. The hot water heater came in about 2 days later. When Brauer's Mechanical came to install the water heater, they said that I would need to pay $1300 for installation because my hot water heater was in the attic and the steps leading into the attic would have to be taken down in order to install the hot water heater. I called AHS and the operator said that I should not be charged. I called back Brauer's Mechanical and they said that they will come back the next week to install the water heater. At this time, I was getting nervous because now this has been over 2 weeks with no new hot water heater and I was due to leave the country the following week.
The following week on the 25th, Brauer's Mechanical came back to the house and before coming in, they called and asked me did I have the $1300 installation fee. I told them no this should have been handled with AHS. Upon calling AHS, another operator told me that the installation was not included. Wow!! So I had to leave out of the country on the 25th with half of my house literally underwater. On the 30th of May, I came home from out of the country and called AHS again. I told them that I had no choice but to pay the $1300 because now I was going on a whole month without a proper functioning water heater. I did, however, asked that I be assigned to another contractor because I did not like how Brauer's Mechanical treated me. Within an hour, another contractor named Pond's Brothers contacted me and said that they will come out tomorrow to install the hot water heater.
The next day, Pond Brothers came in and installed my hot water heater. Amazingly, they did not have to take the stairs down from the attic to install the hot water heater. How is that? So if I had gone with 1 contractor, they would have charged me $1300 but not the other contractor. Aren't they both contracted with AHS? Seems pretty unethical to me. I could have gotten my water heater in 2 weeks before it was actually put in if Brauer's Mechanical was not trying to hustle me out of $1300 and if AHS would have definitively told me whether or not the installation was in fact covered. I have talked to AHS about my water damage because I feel that they should be held responsible for neglecting to fix my water heater in a timely manner. No one offered to turn off the water to minimize the damage. Also, for the shady practices of their contractor.
Either way, I could have gone to Lowe's and gotten a hot water heater within a couple days but being that I used a home warranty company, I did not feel I should come out of pocket to get a hot water heater AND pay for a home warranty. The end result is that I have severe water damage to both of my bathrooms and now I have to come out of pocket to pay for that as well. So much for having a home warranty company.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

So within 24 hours, he got me a new fan with a different brand, and it's been great so far. I haven't had any problem with the customer service reps but sometimes, I don't quite understand how AHS works. I need to have something done on my stove but I'm not gonna mess with it. If I can use the stove for a while longer, I'm not gonna complain about it. I wish if things are attached to the house and they’re outside, AHS would do it. I have an outdoor fan over my patio and because it's over the patio outside, they won't do it. But it could have been an indoor fan.
AHS has always come out and done what they've said they would do. They upheld their part of the contract. I am a paying customer and I don't feel that I've been cheated at all. It's nice to know that I can call them and they'll take care of it. I'm in a situation. I'm a widow and I'm alone, and I don't wanna have to go through on the internet and start looking for somebody to come to my house. I loved the Yellow Pages and this whole way of doing business these days through computer is garbage. You don't have enough people to talk to to ask your questions before they get started and finding people that you feel confident about is difficult. Years ago, you open up the Yellow Pages, and if you want air conditioning, everyone in the city had their phone number in there. I found that much easier and faster than going through the internet and trying to decipher where the company is, who they could be and if they have any other names. Young people are being ripped off.

With AHS, there's value for the money that you pay and it's real. Most people, when you talk about this stuff, they think it's a scam of some kind. They don't really believe that things are covered. Fortunately or unfortunately, I've had several reasons that I had to use them and every time has been very good and useful. They're very timely, too. However, I had a water heater that went bad, and it took 10 days before they were able to come out with the water heater and fixed it. But recently, I had some plumbing issues and it went very well. The company that they assigned to fix it for me got ahold of me the same day and they came out a day later. They were on time. They even sent some notification. They were great and fixed everything really well.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

It's easy to submit a claim with AHS. For the most part, I hear from a vendor within 24 hours based on American Home Shield submitting it to the vendor. What I don't like is not being able to request one closer to my area that I'm familiar with. I had an issue with a plumbing problem and they were sending out a guy from a company that had very poor reviews. But it turned out that they were good when they came out.
Recently, we had an intermittent problem that started out. First off, the blower wasn't working. The first guy that came out, couldn't diagnose it properly because he was only picking up that there wasn't enough refrigerant in the system. He rescheduled for another day. The second guy that came out said there was plenty of refrigerant. The blower motor needed to be replaced, plus a few other electronic things going on over there and that condenser unit needed to be done too. He took care of all of those.

They take responsibility and accountability. The people that did the service are very knowledgeable and professional. Definitely, the quality of the people that come in to do the work know what they're doing and solve the problem at the first shot, once they get it started.

I had to call AHS because my air conditioner wasn't working. I felt like I shouldn't have to put a work order in because everything was brand new. I had them come out last year. They had to put in a whole new condenser. What makes me upset about the company is you can't get ahold of a real live person. Finally, I got ahold of somebody. I shouldn't have to pay a copay of $75 for them to come out and look at the unit that was brand new. There should be no reason why this unit stopped working. The rep said that was fine, but they still charged me $75.
The techs were out the very next day. I had to have them come out again the next day because the unit still wasn't working. They had to change the pump. They hadn't changed the pump when they came out. They were supposed to change everything in the whole unit, but they didn't. We did everything. It was a pump that was messed up. The tech realized what the problem was and he was able to get them to authorize it right away. He came back the same day and fixed it. It's working fine now.
However, they had a company come out three times last year. They could not resolve the problem with my air conditioner. Starting in July, they didn't finish the work order until December. Also, when I had to have my water heater replaced, it took them two months to get the part. One thing I was very dissatisfied with AHS is when you put in for a work order, then they have to order the parts, it takes forever for them to replace the parts and to fix it. I really wouldn't recommend them.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

I had an electrical plug that was not working. I called AHS to submit a claim because the online website where you put in a claim did not describe the problem in detail enough to where I could do it that way. It was easy to get to the first rep, but then, I had to go up the hierarchy to let them know that I had coverage for the repair of this item they initially tried to deny me.
They tried to tell me that I had had some defect on a prior electrical claim that nullified me from being able to get this problem fixed. So I told them I was canceling the service and they routed me to a retention specialist. That person fixed everything to where I could do the claim, but under the threat that I would cancel the service. The contractor that came had done a repair job for me before very well. It was nice on this job as well. I like the ease of being able to get to the web platform for many things. Usually, within two to three days they contact you with a contractor for whatever the home need is. Most of the time, it's gone smoothly before this last one that I had.

We had a claim for a water heater and the sensor part was faulty. The appointment was set up really fast. The tech came late but it was okay as he had a lot of work. He was friendly and he changed the part. It was a two-minute job. AHS gets contractors with whom we can get appointments in fast. They're a lot better than the other companies where we waited three months to fix the dishwasher.

Submitting claims online is a lot quicker as it's very cumbersome to wait on hold. Also, there are some exclusions in the policies that once in a while come up. But they ask if time is of the essence when you fill out your questionnaire. I had a claim for an air conditioning unit and if it was my only unit, they'll prioritize me which is nice. They assigned a service technician very quickly. The techs fixed the problem and we were very satisfied. They had the parts and they were very professional.
AHS has really stepped up their game in the last few years. We've been with them for five years and they've made improvements along the way. It could take 48 hours to assign a technician but so far, it's been happening instantaneously. They've also added to their network which is a huge positive. Plus, the techs have been getting out very quickly. So, what used to be a huge frustration is no longer one. I've worked with other warranty companies in the past and as of current, AHS is doing a good job. I'm very pleased with them right now.

I used the warranty a month ago for a refrigerator. The tech came and fixed it fine. He was a very friendly guy. He fixed it and told me to leave it open until 8 at night then close it up and turn it back on. It has worked fine ever since. Then I had to call in Saturday for my AC unit. But the company that they used up here didn't work weekends. So I didn't get any feedback till the day. I got somebody to come fix it for Saturday 'cause it was like 90 degrees in my house and my dogs were having a fit. So I had to cancel my service ticket with AHS. AHS is good. I have to lower my deductible thing for them to come out. But other than that, they come out, they take care of business, so I'm happy with them. Recently, I had my air conditioner done and that was a lot of work. The techs had to go up the attic and then, the condenser ran out. Also, I have a four-door Samsung refrigerator and the techs did a lot of work on that too with the ice machine and with calibrating the leaking door. They took care of that. AHS has very good contractors and they've covered mostly everything. But they only cover $10 of the Freon and we had to have eight gallons. So, we have to pay $440 out of pocket.

My Jenn-Air stovetop was not working and AHS said it had to be replaced because they couldn't find parts for it. They said they could replace it with a certain model or I could pay for some extras. I can't find a replacement for the money they wanna give me to pay to replace the stovetop, not counting having it installed. The contractor did well but they're out there just to do the calls and say the unit is bad so they don't have to do the repair. A while back, some people came for my dishwasher. They said it was bad and they don't install a replacement. They replace parts but they won't put a new stovetop back or they won't even install a dishwasher. That was weird. But at least they found my unit was bad and they turned the claim in.
So I'm working with AHS now. They said they're gonna replace the unit but the issue is finding out what the replacement is. They want us to make sure that the measurements are correct but shouldn’t the techs make sure of what we needed? If somebody comes out and says a unit is bad, they should annotate what size is needed and have that correct. Also, I can't get a hold of AHS over the weekend and I work during the day. Sometimes it's hard for me to get on the phone.

My wife had a rental house that she also had American Home Shield on. We've found that they eventually cover most of something but they are slow to get anything done. We just had our air conditioner replaced and the questions I could not get answered was when something was going to happen, why is it taking so long. AHS would not tell me what portion of the work they were covering. They were asking me to cover almost $2,000 worth of repairs and if that was gonna be the bulk of it, I did not see any need to keep American Home Shield. But the contractor was very truthful and let me know how much the service really cost so that was fine. I didn't mind covering almost 2,000 in cost.
AHS's speed at which they do repairs is pathetic. It's so slow that if the issue is something small, we do it ourselves which is annoying because it's supposed to be something covered. We had a hot water heater go out and if we had gone through AHS, it would have been two and a half weeks. Also, I couldn't get a straight answer out of American Home Shield. You could hardly get an escalation. Plus, when you get an escalation, you would feel like you are talking to someone who is allegedly an escalation point. Additionally, the website does not update status on shipping. For instance, an item has already shipped, yet as far as the website was concerned, it has not. That would have kept me from calling several times.

It took a little bit of time to get the techs out here. They had to order a part so we had to wait for it to come from them, and then AHS took care of the rest. We also had an air conditioner fully replaced three years after we got the policy and the AC guy told us it would have been between 5,000 and 8000 if we had to pay out of pocket. We had a dishwasher that wasn't working. The tech showed us that it was working. He was respectful and took the time to make sure that what he thought was true. He also went through lots different diagnostics. But we had a big issue with our furnace and we did not get it resolved for months. We had to go through the winter without a furnace. The techs didn't diagnose the problem correctly. Other than that, most of the time, we've appreciated what AHS offers. We've saved a lot of money for a water heater and a heat pump that went out. The heat pump took a year but we got that replaced. It was during COVID, so there were some other reasons why the parts were back-ordered. We were glad we didn't have to pay the whole price for a new heat pump. Also, replacing the water pump was gonna require removing the water heater next to it and there was labor involved that got covered. So, the warranty is definitely worth it.
We also had issues with our stove, and that was resolved with a replacement. So there were several things that it definitely paid off. But in the case of a fixture in an upscale bathroom, they were gonna replace it with something really cheap. So they gave me the money amount which was minuscule and it wasn't worth it. But overall, we've been able to call in, and the same day, they'll get back to us and schedule someone to check on things.

It was that time of the year when the techs needed to come and check out my air conditioner. When the first company came out, they said I needed a little Freon and some acid cleaning. After they came and I found out that information, I called American Home Shield to send out another company to fix a problem on my AC. They came the next day, which was wonderful. So, I was able to get it done very quickly without telling somebody I wasn't going to be home because I was shooting out to Florida in two days.
When the second guy came, he said that his company didn't like to use the acid cleaning because, a lot of times, if you don't get it all off, then it could ruin my air conditioning. So, I told him it would be okay not to put it on my air conditioner. He showed me what I needed to do, how to cut it on, how to cut it off, and how to change the air filter. I loved everything that he did. He took the time and explained everything. He also fixed stuff when other people didn't want to fix it. Other than that, the first company that came out wanted me to get a new heater and air conditioner. But the guy from the second company fixed everything for me and I'm still operating off of the old system. This gentleman also fixed my heater before and both times, he was very thorough and good.

AHS is one of the better home warranties to get. They do full replacements, not just partial replacements. So, I stuck with them because it's a good deal and they actually fix the stuff or replace it. I had a microwave go out recently and when I went online to the website to submit the claim, it was super easy. It was just a bunch of drop down boxes. Then, the tech came out within a couple of days. There was a tracking that they sent out a few hours before his arrival. So, it would tell me when he was expected to show and where he was at. He was super professional and very timely.
He went through all the common troubleshoot issues. It turned out that a cable was broken where it didn't spin and wouldn't turn on. He tried a couple of different things that were typical fixes on them and they didn't work. So, he ordered up the parts, but they weren't available. AHS then sent me a website where I could click through them for professional install and the microwave that I wanted or I could just opt for the gift card and get one locally. I decided to get a brand-new microwave which I was able to get two days after the tech was gone.

I have home warranty with AHS since March, 2023. I claimed plumber issues in April. Up until today, the 5th of June, the problems are still not fixed. First of all, the person on the phone miscommunicated with Plumbers Inc, a contract plumber hired by AHS. Only two of the four problems fixed. Then AHS dispatched Plumbers Inc technician again but the technician missed the appointment. They sent a technician again on the 22nd of May, the third time. The technician showed up on time. He said on the spot that he will order the parts online and be back in a week. After two weeks, he sent a report to AHS saying that the faucets cartridge is not working due to water pressure is high. And AHS said these are not covered items. But the cartridge works fine because the hot and cold water delivery is fine except the handles for the faucet needs to be replaced, which was what I asked for in the first place.
The water pressure regulator valve is covered by AHS but the plumber claimed that he needs to modify the plumber system so he wants charge me out of pocket a few hundred dollars. Two broken faucets handles and a water pressure regulator, Plumber Inc and AHS wants to charge me $1165. Otherwise, my claim is all denied. What's the point of buying AHS insurance? I have spent so much time on the phone for the simple issues. Spend my money to buy frustration? No more. They won't cover you, instead they want more money from your pocket by misdiagnosing the problem. It's a scamming company! Don't waste your time and money with AHS.

My only complaint ever with the air conditioning repairs in Florida is it takes them two to four days to get to the house. That's a long time when it's 95 degrees outside. AHS covers a lot, but their monthly charges is hard to manage. I've had it for years and years, but it's gotten too expensive to use it. I'm probably gonna drop it at some point.

So far, AHS has been good to me. The rekey service went very smoothly. There was a little scheduling conflict, but they were able to work it out with the company. The locksmith was great. I liked him. He was in and out real fast. I got caught up in traffic trying to make the appointment. He was gracious enough to wait a couple of minutes.

Back in April 2022 my garage door opener failed. I contacted AHS for repairs. They send a company and they charge me $75 for the fee. The company said; that the repairs would not be covered by AHS. AHS gave the ok to the company to do the repairs, but they would not pay for it. The company tech was very condescending and rude to me, I asked the tech to leave my property and to never come back. I contacted AHS and ask of them to cancel my contract. They refunded the $75 fee. On May 25, 2023 AHS charged me $296.97. After reviewing my account, I found out that AHS never cancel my contract and AHS charged my account a total of $1,256.86 since April 2022.

Claims submission is very quick. If I have a problem, all I gotta do is just get on the website and knock it out. The website is easy to use. When the motor on my garage door opener quit working, I submitted a claim and it went good. I was told who the contractor was and where they were coming from. The repair guy had to change the motor. He had the material already with him, and he did a fantastic job.

The contractors are good about coming out. But American Home Shield wants to fix things over and over no matter how old they are. Our air conditioning and heat pump system is probably 20 years old. And they keep fixing it. I've spent so much money on it that I'm almost ready to cancel my warranty, because I end up having to buy my own stuff anyway. One of the guys told me, “They're not going to replace that until it doesn't work at all.” My washing machine went out, and the tech repaired it. It started leaking water. We knew AHS wouldn't get rid of it, and I got tired of paying $100 and people coming out and fixing it over and over. The unit would run for months, and it would break down again. I’ve spent enough money for that. I can just buy a new one.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your experience with us! We appreciate the great review and look forward to working with you soon.

We owned a house about 15 years ago where we had American Home Shield and we loved them. They were a great company and helped us out with our older home. When we bought this one, we knew we were buying an older home again and my realtor suggested we get AHS, signing up was an easy thing to do. This home is 35 years old and it's nice to have that warranty because the big things are going to come up, so you might as well invest in it. Then, you're covered when it comes time to replace a $15,000 water heater. It's just worth it.
Two days after we moved in our new home, our AC wasn't working. AHS sent out the tech who claimed that the system had a leak and that it needed to be fully replaced. In his notes, he wrote something that this was a pre-existing condition. So, American immediately said that it wouldn't be touched as this happened before I started my contract. But we told them that there was no way for us to have known that. He had to come back a second time to run a pressure test. So we fought it and luckily, I'm really good friends with my realtor, so she stepped in and helped out. She was wonderful because she talked us into getting the larger package with the real estate one and mentioned that we'd have the upper head person to back us up versus just calling customer service.
So that was a huge blessing because we were immediately able to call Lovi. She immediately started to get in on it but it took forever and I was so frustrated with the woman that I was working with because she was like a robot. She said that the policy states that if it's a pre-existing condition, AHS will not cover it. She literally had the same line over and over again. It didn't matter what I said and this went on for weeks. Apparently, the one that made the decision was so unwilling to see me as anything other than a piece of paper, Lovi was also trying to talk to her so many messages were sent back and forth, and we were trying to do this and that. It finally came down to where she said they'd send out a second party to come and evaluate. She said they wouldn't me fee for it but if it's the exact same condition, then it won't be covered.
I agreed, so a tech from another company came out. And I was so thankful that he did because he said that he would see this all the time. Companies come out and they hear that you have a warranty, and they just start adding things to the bill. He said he could see the leak and that it was a really big one. He said there was no way to know if it leaked in a week or if it leaked over six months. He also said we would have never known to take the valve off. He sat there and showed it to me. He said to please don't ever take this valve off. It's sealed the proper way and that it wasn't something that you test on your own. He said he'd fix it, fill it up with Freon, and we were done. So he put in the order and it was fixed two days later. The problem was taken care of but it took four weeks for that to happen.

It seems as though AHS acquires not so much skilled workers or unskilled workers. It's just that they don't go with the high-end persons that can come to your house and facilitate work. So the service is mediocre and it could be better. Timing can be improved as well. There had been points where I put in a request for my home and a month later, I'm still doing follow-up. They get people that aren't able to come out to you quickly and it would scare me if I had an emergency knowing how long it took me to have somebody come out to my home just to do maintenance or repairs. But once the people finally get out there and they do the work, the work is done nicely and I haven't had any issues with any other persons coming out to do work.

But I'm covered through July and I'm gonna go with somebody else. I got a refund coming because AHS's rep messed up. I was ready to renew my home warranty and we were all ready to go. We went through the whole process and she clicked the button to pay it in full. I wanted to make monthly payments on it but she took it out in full and my account was overdrafted. I was kind to her at first and then she was like, "Oh, you're not gonna ruin my day." I bet you if I took out $750 out of your account, it'll ruin your day. The problem I have with AHS is that it is very hard to get someone local to address our needs. Before, I could get in touch with someone in Texas or Florida or even Iowa. Now, anything that needs to be fixed has to go overseas and then they have to find someone. It gets lost in the shuffle. That has to be streamlined a little better because they're really discouraging members that have been committed to them not to do it. It took them three and a half months to get a dryer fixed and it still knocks. They never fixed it properly.
Also, we've stayed with AHS for many years and have gone through a number of contractors. It seems like they are looking to get more contractors on and they're having some struggles. As of lately, what typically happens is if it's not a quick fix, the technicians don't wanna wanna do the work. There was a refrigerator issue that ABA Repair came out for and they said they couldn't repair it. We requested for a second opinion and Valley Appliance Services came in. I've had Valley before and I wasn't really pleased with them in the past. I didn't want them to come out. Before, I would say anyone but Valley Appliances, I even put it on my recorder, and AHS sent them anyway but I'm glad they did. Valley Appliances didn't say it wasn't a job they couldn't do. They said there was a part that needed to be replaced and they replaced that part and the refrigerator has been working ever since. The tech did his job and I would call them again.

Then, I had contractors do some work. They told me that there was no wiring that's chewed up. They had me look at the furnace and the wire was in good condition. It had no tooth marks on it. So, I ended up having to call American Home Shield back and tell them what happened. They sent multiple contractors to try to resolve the problem. As of today, it's resolved. I'm satisfied with my other claims by AHS but their communication to the customer could be better. I called my situation back in May. That's three months and that claim was still open. In one of the sinks in the bathroom, the thing that you pull the stopper up with and put it up and down quit working. Whenever I have a plumbing issue, it was always Reliable. And their employees have always been very good. I had a little issue with the owner one time. But was a one-time thing and he might have been having a bad day.
The tech came over. He was professional. It was the first time I've seen him and he was a very personable guy. Went in there, figured out what it was, and it was a lot more of a job than I thought it would. He explained to me, "I thought it was just this thing because we have these a lot." But he said the whole thing had disintegrated inside there. And he said, "I had to just take the whole thing apart and replace everything." He had to replace the p-trap and everything else. It took him a while, but he never complained. He had everything he needed with him. And he had a helper. He took pictures and cleaned up after he was done. Other than the fact that it's new and shiny, there's no evidence that they were here except that it now works very well and it looks nice. I was very pleased with him. He did a good job.

I had a bad experience with submitting a claim online to American Home Shield. My Ring doorbell was acting up and I paid 125 and the guy came out and said they don't work on Ring doorbells. And I still got charged the 125. I asked how I would have known that and I was told I should have called. AHS had to give me my 125 back because I was not treated fairly with that. I told them I didn't want the money back. I wanted it credited to my account. This time, I called and the guy who came out for the AC was very efficient. He recognized the problem right away and did what he was supposed to do. He did great. But the AC is not getting as cold as it should. I was giving it a little bit of time because I have 30 days. So, I am gonna call American Home Shield and have them send the contractor back out just to be on the safe side because it's summertime here in Florida and I have health issues.
When COVID hit. I was home more because I was mostly gone all the time and that means things were being used more often. So, I had problems with my refrigerator, my washing machine and my dishwasher. American Home Shield was the reason that my dishwasher created the problem that I had. They sent someone out and the guy created a leak underneath my sink when he fixed it the last time. I did dishes and a week later, I started smelling mold.
The guy came over to my house down the street to do something for me and I asked him if he could smell mold. He said he did and I explained to him what happened. He looked underneath the sink because he knows about stuff like that and he said I had it right there. The guy who fixed my dishwasher knew that there was a leak underneath but he didn't tell me. So, by the time everything was done, American Home Shield should have paid for the repair. But there's such a major language barrier. I get frustrated because neither one of us are understanding what is being said. But my dining room, living room and kitchen had to be remodeled because black mold had gone everywhere. I kept calling American Home Shield about the dishwasher and they were saying one thing and I was saying something else. I found out it was not American Home Shield’s fault but the people who came out to fix the problem.
I have the higher policy because I pay more for mine and the two people that I referred to have a lower one. But I'm not sure if I would recommend American Home Shield anymore. The language barrier is difficult. I would ask to speak to someone in the United States and the reps would say that I have to call back in but I was still gonna get them. I'm told one thing by one representative and then I get told something else by another representative. So, it's very frustrating when you go through that. But I haven't left American Home Shield. I am vested with them and they have something in my chart when I call. After a few conversations that I've had, they pay more attention to me now than before. I've been with AHS for eight years and I might as well stay because I don't want to start over with someone new and I know what I'm getting with American Home Shield.

The spring broke on the garage door. I submitted the claim with AHS and they tried to get a tech out almost within a day or two. But I was out of town. So I scheduled it three days out. When the tech came out, he repaired the spring. He also pointed out that there were some wheels that were in the guides on the side that were binding up, and it likely helped cause a problem. But one had frozen and popped out. So he sold me on replacing those. I think it probably needed it but I know, quite often, the technicians are going to try and sell you on more work. So it ended up costing me more than I would've wanted to pay for that. AHS also scheduled the rekeying of the locks very quickly when I needed it. It's something they offer when you first move in. We realized that the air conditioning wasn't working right before we went to bed. So, we submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. It seems that any time anything happens with us, it happens during off hours. So, there's not necessarily a chance to call. Both my husband and I have done it so many times, we're very familiar with the website. It's very easy to navigate and to submit the claim. Mario, the tech, came out the next day and wanted to look at the inside unit, and then looked outside and automatically knew what it was and got straight to work. We had air conditioning Memorial Day weekend. So, it all worked out.
We had a plumbing issue late last year and that was not the most favorable. It included having to break through the sheetrock and having to put in new plumbing running through the attic, and then having to have somebody come and repair the sheetrock. It was a multi-step process that I wasn't aware of at the beginning of it. So, for something that large, that person should just do their homework as well as with the contractor that was assigned to them. I ended up having to call a third-party contractor to come and do things that the original one didn't just because, by that point, I did not want that plumber in my home anymore.
We bought our house in 2007 and we’ve had AHS since then. My mother still has it on her home and it's much more convenient to either call or file the claim. We’ve got the package where we have everything in the house to just call one number and have it be taken care of versus the washer warranty and the stove warranty. So, that is a positive with it. We had an issue with our garage door years ago and being able to call and just say that this is the issue and having a contractor assigned is definitely a benefit, that all-in-one shop. I enjoy that there is one form that I fill out and somebody is sent out. I like that the contractors get back to me fairly quickly. Usually, it's within 24 hours. With this situation, we put in the request at 11:00 at night and at 9:00 the next morning, the contractor was calling me. So, the contractors respond very quickly.
Other than a plumbing issue, everybody who has come has been great. I had a friend who doesn't have a home warranty and was having an issue with the washer. I sent one of the contractors that I really enjoyed that came out to fix our washer earlier this year and she thoroughly enjoyed them. So, there are some good contractors that are with American Home Shield. Overall, it’s been a good experience. I've had a lot of experience with American Home Shield and the majority of it has been positive. Some of the negatives just happened to be multi-month items. I had a huge water and gas bill because it was affecting the hot water and the process just took forever. So, those are the things that weren't the greatest.

AHS is fantastic. I've had quite a few issues with my AC and they've taken care of them and the warranty covers it. Recently, the compressor was bad. So, the techs replaced that. Then they found out the relay was bad and they replaced that as well. The claims process is pretty simple and for the most part, the techs who have been out have been good. As a single parent, I don't have the energy to find out who to call, to come, get quotes and worry about issues in the home. When I call AHS, they send a professional out to take care of the problem, then I have peace of mind to know that the cost is covered. It's a cost-effective way for a homeowner to be able to have things around the home taken care of as well as it's a good warranty to have. It helps protect me from extra expenses.

My most recent claim was on an air conditioning unit that was not blowing cold air into the house. I reached out for a service call, just like I normally would, pay the fee, and American Home Shield assigns the company. It took them a couple of days to get out here. They were a great company to work with. The guy was very helpful, very knowledgeable. They assessed the problem quickly. It took a bit of time to get the correct compressor, which was because of the parts availability. But as soon as he did it, he was willing to come out on a Saturday even and install it, because it was getting hot out here in Las Vegas. They did a great job on that.
I was extremely irritated with AHS would only pay up to $10 per pound for refrigerant. And I found out the reason why that was after I was assigned to a cooling company, and the gentleman came out and decided he told me what was wrong with it, it was the compressor, and that it would need refrigerant. That refrigerant was $100 a pound. So, it wound up costing me $800 out of my own pocket for something that should have been covered under the home warranty, but they didn't. This is the second issue that I've had where they've declined and not paid for what I pay every month for.
It's not my fault that the cost has gone up on refrigerant and they don't wanna pay the higher price for it. That's what they're in business to do, and it's like they just exclude things that they don't wanna have to pay for because it's more expensive. The coverage is coverage, and it should be the way it's written in the contract, but they find ways to get out of doing that.
The second part of it is because I have a refrigerator where the ice maker broke. And there's a wire below, that because the technician said that it looked like something was done to it where the door was open too far or something was misused or it wasn't normal wear and tear that they refused to pay for my ice maker. And it's because of a broken wire on the design of the refrigerator. Again, that's not my fault. That's why I have a home warranty company. And I don't have an ice maker now, because they wouldn't pay for it.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

American Home Shield’s service has been very good, except there’s one problem. I will get a message from Sears stating that they are going to come and repair something. And they want me to confirm that they are coming by pressing the number 1. When I press the number 1 to confirm that I still want them to come, the message always fails. It's not with my phone because I confirm doctor's appointments and different things. I end up having to call AHS, who in turn has to call Sears to make sure the appointment's confirmed. That has happened to me twice now. But I'm very happy with AHS.
AHS covered a refrigerator in my Florida home though I have not yet been able to get a new refrigerator because I had to come home to Pennsylvania. Then, they fixed a washing machine in my other house. The gentleman had to come several times to Florida before they declared the refrigerator unrepairable. There were three gentlemen who came there and they were all very professional, nice and personable. So, it was a nice experience working with them.
Dear Darla, we greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

But the contractor came out and cleared it up right away. Curtis was very helpful and nice, got it done quickly and we were on our way. Having American Home Shield saves me money because it's just the initial money that I have to pay to them, and it's covered.

I've had pretty good experiences with the contractors I had and that is why I continue to do business with American Home Shield. I've been with them for over 15 years. When my refrigerator wasn't freezing, I made a claim and a technician came within the week. He diagnosed the issue, ordered the parts, and waited for the parts. he then came in and did the repair. The freezer portion was still not freezing. We called back and technicians came back out and did a diagnostic. They figured out that we needed Nidro-something. They did that and the refrigerator seems to be working okay right now.
I did have an open claim for the refrigerator. We had a problem with the same refrigerator and we called back. When I spoke with the representative, he said that it was gonna be all on the original service and there will not be a $75 fee charge. Come to find out I was charged $75. That went back and forth for a while. Eventually, American Home Shield credited me.
Another thing is they say someone's gonna return your call from the escalating department or they're gonna listen to the recordings and then they're gonna get back to you. I've had a situation where no one got back and I had to call and follow up or I'll get a call and say, "This is such and such from American Home Shield. We're in the escalating department. I don't have an answer for you right now. I'm just keeping you updated and calling you back to let you know." But for the most part, it got rectified and I was okay with it. There is convenience when you have a home warranty. I know that I can make a service call and I don't have to call a plumbing company or I don't have to call the technician. It's just easy access. I would just get a follow-up call from whoever was referred to do business with me and come and do the repairs.

Back in March, I had a problem with the dishwasher and somebody came out from Sears. He said that the motor had to be replaced so, they ordered a motor. Then, they came back and put the motor in, and the dishwasher worked. Then, I noticed that the dishwasher was making noises. In the middle of the night, I would get up and go in the kitchen, and the dishwasher which was not supposed to be running would sound like it was trying to drain or the fan was on. So, somebody from Sears came back out and looked at it. And he said it was working fine. It must be that it was trying to drain water from the sink. And he said there's a pump there and that's how it's supposed to work. The hose was a little off so he fixed those. But it still happened. Hours after I've used the dishwasher, all of a sudden, the fan starts going or starts trying to drain.
The last time I put the call in, I did one of those telephone call things with AHS. And they couldn't tell what it was doing but they could hear it was doing something. So, yesterday, somebody came from Appliance Network and the dishwasher wasn't doing it. The tech said that if it's not doing it while he’s here, he has no way of knowing. He said it looked fine to him. I told him he could pull it out and see if there's something going on in the back. But he said there was no reason to pull it out. There was nothing in the back. There was nothing he could do so he left. That night, I ran the dishwasher and then I went to bed. When I got up the next morning, I opened the dishwasher to unload it, and the dishwashing detergent was sitting on the drying element, half-burned. I wasn't thinking too much about it. But sometimes it doesn't drop at the right time, and then it's a problem.
I ran what I thought was a quick clean just to get residual soap off of the dishwasher itself. And I opened it up and it looked clean. Then, I put a tablet in and ran the dishwasher. And when it was done, the dishes look dirty. They were very dry, but they looked dirty. That was weird. So, I ran it again. There was no water coming out. I made a call and the techs are coming on Wednesday.
I understand the tech doesn't know what it is because it's not happening. But short of having him sit down and watch a few movies and wait for it to come on, there's nothing I could do. I did a video, which is the best thing I could do. At the same time, my water bill increased, not just the dollar amount, but the usage increased considerably. So, I had somebody come out and look for a leak. The guy said the meter is absolutely still. But he went around and checked all around and turned faucets on and he said there was no movement on the meter. He had one tiny run that was going on in a toilet and he said he was gonna fix it. But this is not enough to cause that usage. This dishwasher has got a mind of its own and maybe it's turning water on, and that's why I hear it trying to drain.
It was a very good experience with the customer service rep from AHS. I had trouble finding the right phone number to call to get a human. Something was going on and I needed to be able to explain it to a human rather than just put a service request in but once I found the number and I've saved it, I didn't have any problem. They've been nice. Other than this issue with the dishwasher, the people that AHS sent out have been good. They fixed the problem. I had one situation where I was having trouble with the toilet, and AHS couldn't get anybody out for 48 hours. I couldn't wait 48 hours to fix the toilet so I contacted a plumber myself and had it done. I like American Home Shield but I was not happy with what just happened with my dishwasher because the problem didn't get resolved. And now, the dishwasher is broken again. So, somebody's gotta come back out.

I've submitted three claims to American Home Shield and they've handled things very well. I submitted for a new furnace that went in last December. Gallagher Plumbing came out the next day after I sent the order in. They checked it out and said the furnace needed to be replaced. So they contacted the American Home Shield and then American Home Shield ordered the furnace. Within a couple of days, the furnace was here, and in the same day, they installed it. They were very good.
When I had a dishwasher that didn't work, Sears A&E came out here and diagnosed it. The computer panel needed to be replaced. They ordered the part and that took a while to come in, which isn't their fault. But as soon as they got the part, they came out and installed it. The tech ran it through a couple of tests. It looked like everything was working. Then it took us about four days to fill up the dishwasher and run it, and it came back with an error code of E9. I ran it again a few days ago and it did the same thing. I looked it up on Google and E9 on that machine says that the heating element is no good. So I got back on with American Home Shield. They put the thing back in, and they have Sears A&E to come back out, and get it fixed. So we're working on it.

American Home Shield is very prompt. Right when you put in a request, I hear back within a half-hour to 45 minutes, and then an appointment will be set up pretty quickly. So it's pretty quick turnaround time. Most of the contractors we've had out have been great. There was one that was not so great, but I chalked it up to it being Christmas Eve and the tech probably wasn't very happy about coming out. But so far, our washer-dryer was fixed and they've replaced the garbage disposal, and then we've had some duct and heating and air kind of things going on. The second guy that came out was a bit more helpful than the first guy that came. American Home Shield is definitely a good thing to get and have because you never know what's gonna happen or go wrong.

When I have a claim, I call American Home Shield and most of the time, it's automated. But whenever I speak to someone, it's fine. Also, I've always had good reactions with all of the contractors. All of them are very nice, courteous, and professional. They've all done a great job. But when I call and put in a claim, it’s a day or two at the most before someone reaches back to me. It would be a business day if I do it on a weekend. But I've had great service with American Home Shield and I don't mind paying them the premium every month or how I pay it. We enjoy it. When the compressor had a hole in it and the Freon leaked out, I called in a claim on a Saturday, and the tech called me on Sunday because he wanted to fix it. But when he got here, he couldn't fix it. So he called it in and by Thursday, they had the parts and he put it on. I like the contractor that came out. I had them before and they are friendly and they get the job done. The tech knew what he was doing. The air conditioner unit is working fine now. But the first time that I called in when I had a leak, American Home Shield got on my nerves. They said it was a slab leak, but it was a pipe. They also said they didn't cover that, so that put me off.
The way they wrote it up was that the issues were two different things, my coil and my compressor. I asked them, "How could it not be covered?" The rep said, "Well, it's not that. We are paying for that. But we don't cover the Freon." I said, "But that's not what's written." It ticked me off when what they said was opposite of what was written. But they told me, "No, ma'am. I never told you that. What's written is what we said." The tech told me that it was 80 bucks for a pound of Freon and American Home Shield would only cover $10.

With AHS, I like that if anything goes wrong, you pay the service fee and the techs will come out and fix it. For instance, I had a refrigerator that they came out for and they fixed it. They put in a new compressor. It only lasted a month. They came back in and had to do it again. They replaced it the second time. We have a rental home and we have AHS for that too. The faucet was leaking. The techs scheduled an appointment for two days later and they fixed it that day when they came out.
My recent claim was for a double oven. In the top part of the double oven, it's either a convection or a microwave and both were not working. They were able to fix the oven portion. But the microwave, they were not able to fix. They said they needed some parts and AHS had to order them. When I called AHS, they said they had to check with the service provider. I finally said a couple of months ago, “I just want to be bought out for the microwave portion.” ‘Cause I had to buy a little microwave because it had been over a year. But that was the only thing I had an issue with. Everything else has been great.

I made a service request for a garbage disposal that needed to be reviewed. I've been waiting about nine days now for them to get someone out. The contractor they assigned my service request to has been failing to respond. I had been trying to contact the contractor and the call goes to voicemail. For the first couple of phone calls, it allowed me to leave a message. At about day four, it said the mailbox was full and just hangs up. There was no way to get ahold of them.
It was about day five when I contacted the customer service at American Home Shield. That was when they said that they needed 24 hours to get ahold of the contractor. 24 hours later, they still hadn't contacted me. I'm going back to them. They just keep saying I need to wait another day and another day. Yesterday, I said I'm not waiting any longer. I need to have this resolved or escalated. I asked for a manager and they said someone would get in touch with me. I still didn't get a call back. I finally called American Home Shield this morning and demanded to speak with a manager who said that they were trying to find another contractor to reassign this claim to and they'd get back to me on Monday. I have been spending about 20 minutes on the phone with different people trying to get some solution to this. I'm not happy with American Home Shield right now.
I need to look at some fine print. I've only had two other times that I used American Home Shield. I've been with them about a year and I had good luck with that. I wanted to give them some time on this. But they're not resolving it in a timely fashion. I haven't been able to use my kitchen sink for over 10 days now. It makes me wonder if I was having a leak and if I had a pipe burst. And American Home Shield's response is not acceptable. This one has completely overridden my positive experiences with the home warranty. I'm in the middle of a very negative experience. This all is coming down to the contractor they assigned to me not coming through.
American Home Shield should not be giving this contractor these many days. If a contractor doesn't respond within 12 or 24 hours, they should have a process to immediately move on. All they need to say is, "We'll reassign it, and here's your next contractor." But they keep putting me off to get back to this contractor who's completely non-responsive. They need to have a better system to immediately reassign and do things in a timely fashion.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Our heat pump's cooling feature stopped working. We called AHS and the techs from Foxcroft looked at the outdoor unit, which we just got replaced nine months ago. Then we had them come in and look inside in the indoor air handler. They told us it was a coil that needed done, so they left and we were thinking that they were going to get a coil ordered.
A few days later, AHS said that they got the request and that everything was going through. They said they were just reviewing possible non-covered stuff. Then I got a email the next day stating that we had some non-covered costs and I needed to approve it. When I pulled that up, I saw that it was a monumental amount of $3,750. So, I gave AHS a call pertaining to that and the charges. But nobody could answer any of my questions. I got as much information out of the gentleman I spoke to as I did pulling up my account online. When I asked why that part was not covered, he told me that I had a zoning violation. But I was confused because when I asked how they knew I have zoning violation, he couldn't really tell me.
He also couldn't tell me how much the air handler was that AHS was paying. I asked him why I was paying them almost $1,200 a year, just upgraded to Platinum, and now they were telling me that I have to pay $3,750 when I just got an outdoor unit last year and had to pay $1,700. It's a great discount, but I wanted him to give me an itemized list of the things involved.
Then, I was put into touch with Foxcroft who then gave me an explanation of the charges, and why American Home Shield decided that they didn't want to replace the coil and that they just want to do the air handler because it was going to be more cost-effective for them. We upgraded to Platinum, so it’s helping me because I'm getting a new air handler. But at the same time, it's hurting me because I upgraded to Platinum and paid extra money every month. And because I get unlimited Freon with that service, it's going to cost them $2,200 to refill and recharge my system as opposed to however much an air handler is. Then I have to pay for everything else.
So, Foxcroft explained it to me that it was American Home Shield that made that determination, that it's a win-win for both of us in the long-term. It’s making American Home Shield come out more on top. Then they don't have to shell out almost $3,800. But I am getting a new air handler and starting the life of the unit over from scratch. He said that if I was to call their company for the service and I didn't have a warranty, I'd be looking at paying $7,000 for a brand-new unit. So even if I was paying $1,200 right now every year to American Home Shield, I'd only be paying Foxcroft $3,800. When you put those together, I was still saving.
So, my experience with Foxcroft has been amazing. They were very time-efficient and when we first called them, the very next day, they came out and took a look at our AC unit. But the problem has not been fixed yet. Unfortunately, with the time of year that this happened, just like it happened last year with our outdoor unit, everybody's turning on their cooling systems and realizing it has issues. So, everybody's calling everybody and trying to get it all repaired. Then, supply and demand is still down. So, it's just a waiting game now. But it's out of everybody's hands. At the end of the day, I'm going to be happy that, hopefully, I'm not going to have any other repairs or things go wrong. It’s one of those things of owning a home and having the outdoor unit go out and paying for that last summer and then this summer. It's in the 90s and we're scorching again.

I've had nothing but success with the contractor company. They have come out before. And the technicians were super helpful and professional. One tech diagnosed it and said, "It's the motherboard. So, we'll try to order it, but they don't make it anymore. Hopefully, we can get it in."
They ended up finding the part, got it in, swapped it out, and ran it through a test cycle. The tech said it should have fixed the problem, and they left. That night, I tried to wash clothes again and it kept repeating the same problem. So, I made another claim that night. When they scheduled, it was five days later, they were able to come back out again. The tech diagnosed that it could be something with the inside of the drum, mechanical instead of the motherboard. So, he went back and ordered parts. They still haven't come back out to fix that. The tech said it could take a week for the parts to come in. And I just got the auto-generated email from AHS saying that the parts have been ordered. And once they are received, they will call me to schedule the service call to come out and replace the parts. A few months back, I had a problem with my dryer, and that was perfect. They fixed the problem within a week.

I called in a claim and AHS answered the phone quickly. They gave me all the instructions that I needed to do. But at first, they couldn't find anyone in the city where I live to service my air conditioner. It took them about two weeks until I finally got approval to contact my own contractor to come in and fix it. Then, when he sent in the estimate, they found someone in my area that actually services for American Home Shield and sent them over. I couldn't figure out why they couldn't find them the first time and that was why I got frustrated. But then, that company came in and did an excellent job. It turned out that the motor in the air conditioner had to be fixed and it got taken care of. But it took me about a month to get everything done. And I live in Arizona, so it gets really hot there.

American Home Shield has either been really good or not good at all. But it has helped us out. Right now, we just made a claim with our icemaker and they say they're gonna cover it. They have options to purchase it through them, but they say they're out of stock. They won't give us the value to actually purchase another icemaker. We would still have to pay about $500 out of pocket if we don't purchase it through them.
We had another claim for our hot water heater. We had already had someone come out and look at it. We thought the claim would be covered so we called American Home Shield. The repair company they sent out for that was a mess. The hot water heater is at the end of its life. The part was maybe a couple hundred dollars and the home warranty would cover that. But they didn't cover the company they suggested. The company wanted almost $1,000 to do the repair for us to pay. A new hot water heater was $2,000. We canceled the claim through American Home Shield and just made the purchase ourselves.
American Home Shield should be careful who they're sending to your home and make sure they're legit. We did have other people come out for our hot water heater and there was a difference in opinion. The cost too was very different from what the company wanted us to pay. We had American Home Shield for a couple years at our other house. They paid to replace a Viking cooktop. When the electrical panel went out, they paid to replace that too. That worked out fine.

American Home Shield did not approve the tenants' claim because they said it was wear and tear. The contractors are qualified. But AHS jumps to conclusion quickly. There are too many details in the contract that would void them to make any work. There's always something that they would find a way to not approve.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Abdul. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I love the program. I enjoy the service. If something is broken in your home, you call American Home Shield and they send a technician out right away within 48 hours and have them provide the service that you need. Submitting a claim is very easy because you can put it online. The only problem that I've run into is the selection process. When you have something broken, you have to figure out which category it falls under, especially when it comes down to plumbing. I may not have one of the categories that they have listed. So I have to put something else. But I try to choose the best response that I can choose. So far, the contractors I've had has been knowledgeable. They know their craft.

I sent in a claim for the air conditioner and I called the contractor on Saturday on a holiday weekend and said, "Hey, my air conditioner is not working. Maybe 90 degrees out today. How quickly can you have someone out?" Their technician said, "Well, we can be out on Wednesday." I nearly lost my mind. But we went and bought some window units and just took care of it ourselves. But when I had a claim for the refrigerator, the guys that came and took care of it were great.

The repair guy is exceptional and very thorough. He knows products, cleans up and does everything very safely. He turns power off and takes everything out carefully. He puts everything back carefully too. But AHS's price is outrageous. It has gone up and up. It's over $2,000 now. Plus, AHS tries to repair something and get a second opinion from somebody that's in India or the Philippines and they put you off. In the end, you finally get it fixed. But we've been stuck a couple of times over a month with our main unit not working. Sometimes, they have one-man companies, and they may say, "Oh, we'll come in 12 days to fix your issue." Also sometimes, AHS uses third-rate companies.

If something breaks in the house, it's easy for AHS to fix. For our recent AC claim, they had to replace the capacitor. The technician was the best. The AC is awesome now. For my first claim with American Home Shield, I waited almost a year and a half for the washing machine. They kept on telling me that the part was on the way for over a year. I hated American Home Shield that time. But the last technician was able to get a report and he identified that the machine was irreparable. So they gave me a new washing machine. With the technicians that come, I don't have any issues with them. They're always great. Now, I have a pending boiler. We're still waiting for the parts. According to them, it's still in the process. But I need the boiler fixed.

I had a claim a few years ago during the pandemic. One person came out and he told me my unit was old, which it was because it was the age of the house. He said that I could have leaks but he couldn't really tell and if he could fix it, that was what American Home Shield wants him to do, which is fine. But at the same time, he was trying to sell me a unit outright and I didn't like that. He gave American Home Shield his findings and I don't even know what his findings were. I ended up buying two portable units that lasted me through the summer. I didn't even turn the unit on, because it wasn't working when he got there and it wasn't working when he left. But I wasn't gonna pay for Freon to put in the system for it to leak out possibly. I wasn't happy with that contractor and I told American Home Shield.
The next year, I called again to advise American Home Shield to send someone else, not the same guy from the previous year. May Heating and Air's tech came out and when he ran his diagnosis, he immediately said there was no fixing the unit. It was too old and the parts wouldn't even be found. He said anything that they do would just be patchwork for me to make another call. I was happy with their service and I had the unit replaced.
Most recently, I filed a claim for the AC because I thought I had an issue. When I first turned it on for the season, it was going off really fast -- on and off. American Home Shield texted me who the contractor would be and gave instructions as far as what would happen on the date of service. They couldn't give an exact ETA so my window was 10:00 to 4:00. The tech came out and he ran over. He got here a little after 5:00 but I got a text as promised right at 5:00. He tested everything and didn't see anything wrong. He ran through the diagnostic and checked other things such as the Freon, the compressor, and some other things he told me about. But he advised me that if it happened again, to record it so that the next technician could see exactly what I was speaking of.

Aside from that, I had a leak in the bathtub, and the tech came and repaired some O-rings. Since then, I had no more leak. The first contractor that came out for my claim with AHS was trying to upsell a new service and it would cost us more. They were nasty. The first time they came into the house, they said, “Your contract’s new. I don't think they're gonna cover it.” They said, “We gotta change one thing and it's gonna cost $2,000.” I looked at the part that they were changing. It was just a plug-and-play. It was a small board and the part cost $150 at Amazon and that wasn't even the main problem. It got resolved when I called in regarding canceling it. AHS sent a new contractor. The new contractor said, “It's not the board, it's the thermostat. It wouldn't cost $2,000.” They fixed it right there and then. Overall, AHS's service is good. It just depends on the contractor that they are sending.

Broncos Appliances came to repair the freezer and I was very happy with the serviceman. He was very nice and personable. He came back twice because he thought just the latch was broken and it turned out the whole door of the freezer was broken. There was a lot of frost build-up. So, he defrosted it and cleaned it up. And after he did that, for some reason, we were talking and I said something about getting a new dishwasher because my dishwasher did not clean at all. He took it upon himself to check to see why. He opened up the dishwasher and spun the spinner arms around. Every single water port was clogged. We just moved into this house in September and these were here when I got here. I've never had a dishwasher with clogged spinner arms so, I didn't even think about checking on it. The serviceman cleaned them out and it works a little better, but it's still not great. So, the dishwasher is still going to be replaced.
American Home Shield is a good thing to have. The first time I reached out to them, I called because I wanted the locks changed because we had moved in. I realized that there was $100 for each for them to come out for every service that I requested. But when I found out that it was $100 for the locksmith, I said no. I just didn't worry about doing that and then I thought it was time to get caught up. So, I checked with locksmiths and I was surprised. It was gonna be over $200 for a locksmith to come out to change the lock on the front door and the door from the garage and make them all keyed the same. So, maybe $100 isn't so bad after all. When I needed to take care of the ice machine, I booked both services. So, it's a good deal, particularly when you find out how much it's gonna cost for a serviceman to walk into your house. The house is 15 years old and there are a lot of things that are beginning to fail. So, it's very useful to have AHS.

I had a contractor come out and check the air conditioner that stopped working. It happens every year in the last few years. When it's summertime, I always have to call American Home Shield. A lot of times, they tell me the company that I'll be working with and sometimes they don't. They just say the company would be calling me within a day to schedule an appointment.
American Home Shield could have things to be a little more black and white for what's covered and not covered. Also, I got something in the mail not too long ago saying that they were getting ready to increase my monthly payment. If I could get a one-on-one with someone about why they’re making my price go up, I might be a little more satisfied. I'm happy that I purchased the policy but if I’m paying every time they come out and I'm also paying on a monthly due, I don't know if I'm getting my money's worth. The last couple of times their contractors have come out, it's been difficult. They didn't have the part or they fixed it but it only worked for a month. If it doesn't work within 30 days, they have to come back without me paying. But it's almost like they know how to fix it to the point where I'm going to have to end up calling again in the next 30 days, and it's annoying. They do the bare minimum.

Mike's Plumbing has come out before and done some work. They provide outstanding service. I am very pleased. When I called American Home Shield some time last year, I had a horrible experience with the plumber. I requested a plumber, but they couldn’t find one that would service my area. They told me to find my own and they’d reimbursed. I tried calling, but everyone in this area went from residential to business and they wouldn’t come out to my home. The ones that I found was way too expensive. I went on and paid several hundred dollars out of pocket which ticked me off.
I considered dropping American Home Shield, but they were the best alternative at the time. I decided to give them another shot and kept them. They got better afterwards. They found a great appliance repair person for me and an excellent plumber. That's what I usually use. I also had issues with the HVAC system and they found a very reliable technician for it also. We have had 3 negative experiences with AHS. The first two we disregarded because it was just poor customer service and eventually resolved through multiple calls. The latest incident involves a technician who assessed the problem, left to order the part, stated he would return, called to say he had a minor fender bender and would reschedule and never showed up. It's been 6 days. I called AHS and advised them of the situation and that I tried, unsuccessfully, to contact the technician. I also informed them that I googled the contractor and they had 2 (out of 5) star rating on multiple review sites. Their response was that they "randomly assign contractors" and were not aware. That is unacceptable and irresponsible. I still do not have a resolution.

Several phone calls and 2 weeks later, I still have no decision as to what AHS will cover. They asked for a second opinion from Pro Price. Another 4 hours of waiting around for them. They were sending the same tech for a second opinion. AHS said they requested a price from Pro Price. Pro Price said they provided it 2 days prior and that was about 12 days ago. I then attempted to use another AC repair company.
The part was supposed to be available in 48 hours, shipping from Texas. Now no real estimate of arrival. Goodman said if they can't provide the part in 10 days they will replace the unit. The distributors have multiple excuses why they think that will not happen even after I inquired 3 associates at Goodman, getting the same answer that a unit will be provided. My Goodman rating is zero. 3 years at $4500, now can't even get it fixed in a timely manner. My rating American Home Shield is zero. Getting same run around as my last company First American. Most recently, my refrigerator started making a noise and we called American Home Shield. They always send the same contractor, Wright Refrigeration. They fixed it. It was the way it ought to happen, so that was good. But the one before that with People’s Mechanical was a problem. My air conditioning system was down 3 pounds and it takes a total of 6 pounds of Freon in terms of pressure. Half of it was gone. They did a leak test but in doing that, they put nitrogen into the system, which contaminated what Freon was already in the system. So, they had to let it all out and add new Freon. They wanted to charge me $900 for new Freon.
My warranty covers Freon, but when I called American Home Shield, the call taker said that my policy didn't cover it. The last time someone came to maintain my other air conditioning zone, that Freon was covered. So, People’s Mechanical ended up going away, not helping us. I had to escalate it to a regional manager who finally said that my policy does cover Freon. So, it was just a misunderstanding. Eventually, People’s Mechanical came back and filled it up with Freon and the air conditioning works great now. But there was a lag because of bad communication. I called the regional manager and she interceded on my behalf.
To work with a home warranty company, you have to know your rights and be patient about getting guys out. It's not like calling a vendor and they come right out. Warranty repairs are scheduled in among their otherwise better-paying customers. Nobody gets moved to the top of the list. Whereas if you're a cash-paying customer, you probably get moved to the top. That's a small point, though. Overall, I was happy.

We had a temporary gas disconnection and when we reconnected and went to light the water heater, it wouldn't ignite. Mr. Rooter concluded that it was a pinhole leak above the pilot and the recommendation was for a full replacement. It was about $750 out-of-pocket cost. It's a little peculiar that these were not incredibly old water heaters, maybe five years old at the most, and it might have been even Mr. Rooter who came out and installed them, and now they were saying the upcharge of $700 was gonna be for permits and getting everything up to code. I'm not sure how much code changes over the span of five years, but it can’t be that much. So, I instead requested a payment in lieu, which was approved by American Home Shield. A check should be in the mail for that.
The customer service reps from AHS work off of a script but they're good people. They hear you out and make sure they understand the situation.
