My air conditioner broke on me. I called American Home Shield up, and they got MaxAir out for me. They were able to diagnose it. The turnaround time took a little longer than expected because they had to order a compressor. It took a couple of weeks. Overall, the experience went pretty smoothly. The technician did a great job. I just didn't realize I was gonna have to pay for Freon. I ended up paying about $1,500 for it.

Anything I've ever submitted to American Home Shield, they've instantly addressed it. The company that they send the request to instantly contacts me. Advanced Cooling and Heating recently came out. It took just exactly one day for them to come out. AHS did email me the name of the company, the telephone number, their address, and all of that information. They said that they would be contacting me within 24 hours, and it did happen. The tech was very professional, instantly found the problem, and solved it in less than 30 minutes. He had to replace a part that was on the actual system in the backyard. Then he also handed me the part that he did replace. Instantly, it gave me cold air. Overall, I like American Home Shield's promptness, and the fact that it's one price that I have to pay to get anything fixed. I love it. I can't live without them. They're outstanding.

I filed a claim before where I said three times that it was for the dishwasher but the rep turned in washing machine. But with my recent claim for the ceiling fan, the rep's English was a lot better and we could communicate. Also, I've only had one bad experience with AHS contractors when one plumbing company sent out two idiots. Other than that, when something breaks and their contractor can't fix it, I cash out.

The air conditioning unit that was in the crawl space of our home was leaking, which caused a little bit of standing water. The air conditioning continued to work but it created a foul odor within our home. Airforce Heating came out and the tech was very friendly and patient. He explained everything very well. We were leaving for vacation the day he came out and he was able to get everything done and didn't need our help as much, which was good because we had a lot going on. When he was done, he explained what went on.
I still smell a little bit of an odor in our master bath, but it's not as strong or as bad. I was told that it would take a few days for it to go away completely but it's a huge difference. The only thing was I questioned if it would be covered. I thought that the person would come out and do an evaluation and American Home Shield would confirm if it's covered. But that didn't happen. That would be the only thing that I wish was a little bit more transparent.

Our most recent claim with AHS was our air conditioner. It was not working properly. Our temperature gauge was going up and our house was getting hot. Their customer service was good. They were very helpful. It was not very long after they had assigned it to the people to come fix it. The tech diagnosed it quickly and he had it fixed that day. We haven't had anything but good experience with AHS and we’ve been pleased with our home warranty.

My sister has been with AHS for years. She said, "Girl, it's worth it. Anything happens, they come and take care of your appliances." And that's exactly what they did. I had work done on the dryer and my pool. For the dryer, the tech got out within a week. For the pool, it was two weeks. But they took care of both problems. The techs were very personable and detailed. They were in and out. They got it done. For the dryer, it was the belt that slipped off. They also replaced a part of the pool and put a new motor on the pool.
Wow! Thanks so much for your feedback. We appreciate your business.

I've put in a few work orders with AHS. One was for my well. It was the filter that comes to my house and it went out. The techs got here and said they didn't work on that. They didn't refund me my money. It would have been better if it was more clear when you put an online work order in for what you need to have worked on. That made me mad that I just threw $75 away and waited for them to come out here and fix it but didn't fix it. I went around and around, trying to get the 75 back. I ended up calling my bank and disputing it ‘cause they didn't wanna give it to me. One time, I also had a toilet leak. A guy came out here to fix a leaky toilet. He looked at it for five minutes and left, said he fixed it. But he didn't fix it. Had a recall to another order. I didn't realize it was still leaking at the time too.

The technicians who come out through American Home Shield are very professional. Most recently, they came to look at the air conditioner. Some condensation was collecting, and the technician came out to just find out why. He figured it out within half an hour. All he had to do is unclear a tube that was clogged up.

I contacted American Home Shield and I told them, “Okay. I'm worried, ‘cause I just bought a house on April the 21st, and my appliances, some are having issues and whatnot.” I did tell them the HVAC is one of my biggest issues. They got me into getting the platinum plan, which is the topmost one. They told me, “No, no, no. With this plan, we can have your HVAC system checked. It's a free tune-up and whatnot. As soon as it's June the 8th, go ahead and call us back. We can make your appointment.” They told me that twice through the phone which was recorded. When I called on June the 8th, they tried to tell me, “Oh, no. We no longer have that service and blah, blah, blah. It's only certain months.” So, I made it a big deal. I tried to get them to review the phone calls. They said they would call me back. They never did.
Two weeks passed. I tried to call again and I think this was a supervisor that I spoke to. They said, “Oh, we no longer give that service at all.” They advertise free tune-ups for the platinum and unlimited refrigerant, but there's no reimbursement. There was nothing but issues. It started off really bad. It had me pissed off because I had already gave the first payment, and yet they couldn't reimburse me. I tried to call them back. I tried to get them to cancel my contract to reimburse me, but it was just the whole runaround.
The whole process took them about three weeks. They had somebody come out and check my HVAC system, but it was pretty much what I had done already. I got that temperature thing tape. It's a silver tape. So, they pretty much just came out here. They checked everything and they just put more tape on my furnace. It's upsetting that we're paying this much for the plans, but you don't get all the services because they don't tell you when they discontinue services. It was a pretty bad experience.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the difficulties you've been experiencing and would like to discuss this more. Feel free to contact me at contact number.
Sincerely,

Submitting a claim with AHS was really easy. I just went online. They let me know who they were sending out or sending my contact information to. I gave them a call and they set up an appointment. It was one of the hottest days of the year and my air conditioner went out. 7th Element came out and repaired it in 10 minutes. It was a holiday weekend, so it took the tech a day to get out here, but it was understandable. The tech was really good, professional and seemed to know exactly what was going on. After he did the work, he hosed down the air conditioner, made sure there wasn't any dirt and dust build-up, and made sure everything was running correctly. Then he was on his way. It's been a really good response with AHS, even from the contractors that come out.

The temperature kept climbing. We eventually decided that the AC definitely was not working. It turned out that the AC did need to have a part replaced on it. I reached out to American Home Shield by phone. They have a pretty long hold time but I did call after 11 PM, so I was happy to get ahold of someone. As far as the turnaround time, it was a holiday weekend because it was around the 4th. I called on Saturday night and someone came out first thing on Monday morning. That was about as good as expected. The tech was here for less than 45 minutes. He walked us through it and even gave us some tips on maintenance. He was great. The AC has been working great. Overall, AHS works out great for us because we are first time home buyers. We do not have a lot of savings. So, it comes in handy when you don't have a lot of out-of-pocket money to make repairs.

A plumber from Pristine Plumbing came out because I had a leak under the sink, and he just said, "Well, all I have to do is tighten it." Yesterday, I saw water again, so I panicked and I called American Home Shield and they were on it. They got the plumbing company, and the plumbing company called me right back and made an appointment. I'm very happy with American Home Shield.
Pristine Plumbing was very nice. I first put the claim in on a Friday night because that's when I saw the water. I called the next day because I know it was the weekend and the man was very nice. He said, "Okay. You know what? We're all booked up today, but I have some time. So, I'm gonna come out just to at least stop it." He said, "That's all you need. Just don't use the sink." It worked out. They called, and I had an appointment. I like the plumbing company. I also used AHS to change my locks. They're very good. A guy came out and changed my locks. AHS is on top of it. Even when the water came and I went online to book it the first time, right away, I got a plumbing company. So, AHS is excellent. I'm very happy. I'll be using them forever.

The last contractor that American Home Shield sent out solved our problem. We thought we had low water pressure, but in reality, all we needed was a filter changed down in my basement where the water softener was. We had the filters but I couldn't get the casing off that holds the water filter. They got it off, put in one of the new filters, and we ran the water. It ran brown for a minute. After that, there was no more low water pressure. I couldn't get the housing off that holds the filter on there, but they were able to get it off. My wife said that she enjoyed talking to the techs, and she said that they were some of the nicest guys she ever met. She's happy with the water pressure. We used to cut the water on, and you flush the toilet, and the water stops in the sink. It's not like that anymore.

I needed the seal that goes around the refrigerator replaced because one of the magnets on the refrigerator side slid out. They crack and get old after a while so it wasn't sealing the refrigerator properly. I called American Home Shield and they had a tech reach out to me. Instead of him coming by, I told him I just needed the new parts ordered and sent him the part number in a text. He replied back and said the parts were ordered. Waiting for the part took about two weeks.
The tech came out and brought the two boxes in and looked at what the issue was. He pulled all the stuff off and he had a little blow dryer heat it up so it can fit in the seals properly. The little trays on the side of the doors were cracked so I had it on top of the refrigerator because it doesn't stay in. So he took a picture of that and told me he was gonna see if he could order me a new piece. He gave me some additional information that I didn't know about when it came to my warranty stuff. So, he was good. He did what he had to do and was gone. He was fast and was not playing games.
I called AHS before about replacing my air conditioner but I didn't wanna use what they recommended. The guy came, went up in my attic and looked at the air conditioner. Then, he went over the different options that they have. I had gotten other quotes from two other people and I get it that they're supposed to be lower than everybody else because of the warranty. But the company wanted to just use the bare minimum of what I could get. There were some things that they were missing so I just didn't go with it. The air conditioner didn't break anyway. So, I haven't gotten a new one yet. But AHS is good and they follow up.

I had an HVAC unit on the main floor and another one on the upstairs floor. They weren't working right because my house got up to 80 degrees and above 80 degrees inside. I’ve called American Home Shield in the past because I'm 76 years old and I wanna make sure I do it right. But I filled out the form online this time and it was a Sunday evening. It wasn't in the middle of a business day and the next day, I thought I might have to call them up because nobody has called me yet. And presto, I got a phone call. The contractor said they could come out that day and check my HVAC. It's in Atlanta and it's been very hot for us, especially for somebody my age. They came out and were spectacular. This was the nicest company.
The man's wife called me to make the appointment and she asked if I would like her to call or text when they're on their way. I told her to call and if she doesn't get me, to text. She called and got me and said they were on the way. I told the owner of the company that I'm gonna tell my neighborhood about them because they are absolutely wonderful. And I've told a lot of people about American Home Shield also. Whenever I’ve needed them, they've sent somebody out and the people they send out have done such a good job. I've more than gotten my money's worth, even though the price went up from when I first started using American Home Shield till today. One neighbor signed up with them because of me. It wasn't long after that before she had a problem and she was happy with them.
A relative who had used American Home Shield told me about it and had it at the house she was at before, and then she moved into the house she's in now. When I was telling her about the people who did my HVAC, she said she was not sure she was gonna stay with American Home Shield and I asked why. She said she was glad I’m doing good with this and I asked if she wasn’t happy. She said she looked at the ratings of the people that AHS sent and told her husband to call AHS because she wanted a company that has a higher rating. When she got the companies that had a higher rating that came back to her, they said it was gonna be five days before they could come. And I thought that was ridiculous when she had an HVAC problem also. And then, the other company did come.
The company for my HVAC wasn’t a big known company like some of these people that do all the multi-advertising on everything but they cared and were good and responsive. I was extremely happy with American Home Shield. The people came within 24 hours and checked everything. They replaced what needed to be replaced and it didn't cost me.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

Any time you talk to somebody on the phone, it's from a foreign country somewhere in Asia. And I've noticed when American Home Shield made a mistake and charged me a service fee, they have no way of refunding the service fee. So you have to fight for it. They say there are no refunds. I have a policy for my mom and for myself, and the price on my policy after the first year had a $30 price increase, which I wasn't too happy about. I threatened to cancel and they gave me a credit of 75 bucks towards the next bill, which will cover the increase. AHS is definitely not my favorite. I had Old Republic and they were a lot better.
One thing that is good about AHS is they give you an option for your whole house for electronics. It's an add-on through Allstate. I've already had to use it twice for a computer and a speaker. It's definitely worth its weight in gold. So, that's the only reason I'm keeping AHS right now. Because if you try and get that anywhere else, it's 100 bucks a month. And I only pay an extra 15 bucks for the whole house for that. I have a 2013 MacBook Pro and the motherboard went and they approved up to $1,300 to get it repaired. So, that's good. The 2013 Mac is probably only worth 500 bucks.
Wow! Thanks so much for your feedback. We appreciate your business.

I had plumbing requests for the toilet and for the garbage disposal that was leaking. They sent something to track the contractor, Dave & Sons Plumbing, and the tech called me to ask if we could take them coming at 9:00 in the morning. They came the next morning and the tech gave some insight about what went on. He was knowledgeable and he seemed friendly. He fixed the toilet and the garbage disposal but there was a pipe behind the garbage disposal that started leaking, which we didn't know about until later. I called AHS at 10 o'clock on a Friday and the rep said that I should call him back in 30 minutes if he didn't call back. But according to the text message I received, they don't do weekends or holiday weekends and it was over the 4th of July weekend. Then, they called and asked if the tech could come that Monday, July 3rd.
AHS could be better with the follow through. We had a service in December where a contractor came out to look at our ventilation system because something broke. The tech looked at it and said he'd get back to me but they never sent any paperwork. It was over the Christmas holiday and I tried to follow up. AHS emailed the contractor a couple of times to get a report. They never came back out and they didn't fix anything but they took our $75. Then, the rate went up. I didn't report it back in a sufficient amount of time and it was my fault that it didn't go through. But the contractor never came back to do the work and we never got a recommendation. I didn't like that. I'm gonna switch to another company that offers a lower monthly rate and a lower rate for service.

What I like is the number of hours it took them to respond. I was expecting three days but the contractor came less than 24 hours after I filed my claim. JJ's Fire and Ice's tech asked me questions about what was happening. He diagnosed the issue and said there were broken parts. He told me that he was gonna get the parts that he needed and came back and fixed the unit. I plan to be with the American Home Shield for 60 more years.

I've had a policy for two years and I've never been helped. The most recent claim I had was when the whole power went out in the garage without any breakers being blown. My wife was sweeping the mudroom in my house and my garage is attached to my house. She used an outlet that's in the garage to plug the vacuum into and all the power to my garage went out. The company that came out let me know that they have to do something and that they would submit the work order. The tech was a very friendly guy. But my claim was denied. Every time that I've needed something, it's either not covered or nothing is done. It's $60 a month and it's a waste of money. I already have a company coming out today that's local to me, which is another thing too, ‘cause I live in Niles, Michigan. Every time AHS sends someone to me, it's from Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids. So, the wait times suck. And I have to correspond with that too. The customer service is top-notch, though.

It was 80 degrees in our home but the unit was never shut off. It was reading weird and it wasn't cooling effectively. I called AHS's office and the fellow from Continental Heating and Air Conditioning, Alex, showed up in the afternoon. He was the best service call we've ever had. He fixed our AC and I watched him, talked to him, and learned a lot about the system. He pointed out that there were some pipes that the previous contractor should have tightened more. He put a capacitor in the unit and charged me $235 for a chemical rinse where he took the top of the unit off, rinsed inside and outside, and dirt came through it.
But I've been really frustrated lately because they've been trying to refund me $75 for something back in March when I had a problem with water closets. AHS had originally assigned Kaiser Plumbing and I didn't hear from them for a week. I called the tech and he said he was busy. I called AHS and I got the A1 Septic handyman guy. He came out that night at 8:30 and fixed the problem. But I kept getting an email from AHS that there was a charge due. I called and got ahold of a rep but it kept dragging on. I was without AHS for about a year and a half around 2019 because the service became so poor. There was a delay in getting an agency out when I made calls to them and they didn't have any company that was closer to service me. Also, the coverage was not what it said it would be. On the last repair they did, I had to spend about $800 out of pocket. It was a hot water heater issue and I could have got it done cheaper not going through the warranty company. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I had a service and they needed to reimburse me, which took them every bit of six months. They said that they would reimburse me within 30 days but I had to contact them 10 times and I was getting the runaround. Then, we were fully into COVID and I couldn't get a person on the phone.
But I've been back with them now for about a year and this time, it's a completely different experience. They're able to find someone closer. I put in my service request and they promptly assigned it to someone. I was able to call the people, get a repair scheduled, and they were able to repair the refrigerator. Also, I had a service call that I canceled and they have refunded the fee. I was very pleased with the service this time.

I'd tell people to try American Home Shield first before trying anybody else since I've had a good experience with them.

The contractors have been great, except for Astros. American Home Shield should take them off their list. The first time that I scheduled with them, they were unprofessional and stopped answering the phone while I was trying to confirm the appointment. I didn't like them, but American Home Shield sent them out anyway after I told them I didn't want them to come out. Astros did fine when they came, but my issue with them was when they sent out the two technicians. One of them kept on talking to my mother about needing a new water heater and sending me a quote. He was there for a water valve, and I feel like he sabotaged my water heater, ‘cause the very next day, I had a gas leak out of nowhere.
American Home Shield sent Lindsay's and they were great. Whenever I call back, I ask for them, but there's a language barrier when I call in the claims and the AHS reps need to listen. Although they put the claim in and everything went well, they ignored what I didn't want and it caused me another issue. I had to have the gas company come, and I couldn't stay home. It was a plethora of problems from that situation.

For the most part, the repair people have been good. They do their job, but there has been a couple of times when my experience was really bad. I had almost three months of ugliness with the refrigerator a few years ago. I recently had a garbage disposal that started leaking. I checked everything out and the unit was bad. It was leaking from the bottom, nowhere in the pipes or the plumbing stuff. I called in on Friday and the repair people were there on Monday. They replaced the unit. I went through dialogue with them, and I was really waiting for them to come out and say, "Yep, okay, I'll put the request in and we'll get back to you." This is one of the first times they came out with the parts they needed. With American Home Shield, I can get what gets broken fixed. However, people should make sure that they're getting the correct policy that they thought they purchased.

I've had to make two claims, and one of them was okay. I had an air conditioning unit that gave out, and American Home Shield got someone out the very next day. We're in Texas, so timeliness really matters. It ended up just being a power line issue though. The other item that I raised was quite a different experience, but it was with the contractor that American Home Shield contracted the work out to. We had a broken dishwasher, and it took a month for them just to get parts to repair. They ordered parts and pushed the first appointment by a week, then they got here and it wasn't the right part. They didn't even know what the problem was. They had to do another week, and they didn't get all the parts they needed, then it was another week. It just kept going on and on.
American Home Shield discounted the service charge that they require for calls and they also worked to try to expedite some of the parts. However, there was a shipping issue, so it ended up just staying on schedule. American Home Shield did a decent job trying to manage the issue with the subcontractor. My only gripe is they're contracting bottom dollar suppliers, which would make sense because they're an insurance company, but it ended up being a very poor experience with that particular vendor. The fact that they have an arrangement with that subcontractor and haven't let them go feels like they're keeping them in business. I can see quite a few 1-star reviews in the last five months about this company, and every one of them is coming from someone who had an American Home Shield warranty.

My experience with American Home Shield has always been positive. I pay them money every month, and having the home warranty helps when I have an issue. I call them up and no questions asked, they come and take care of my problem for me. That's what I like. It makes me happy. The repair people are professional and they usually do what they have to to make sure the problem is taken care of. I've been really pleased with everything. I did a request for an electrical outlet that was out. I did it Saturday and the guy called me on Sunday to schedule the appointment. That was good. Also, they were there bright and early Monday morning, took care of the problem, and in about 10 minutes, it was done.

I'm in love with American Home Shield, including the convenience of not having to find people to come out, the discounts that come with it and the customer service. It's been flawless. I haven't had any issues with any of the vendors as well. I recently put a work order in for service, and immediately, AHS set everything up. The company confirmed everything and came out when they said they would. The techs were very professional and clean. They got everything situated, and there was no hassle. It was a nice, smooth transaction. The claims process was straight to the point and easy to maneuver around. I love it.

I called AHS and talked to a representative. I told them I needed to make a service request for my AC unit that wasn't blowing cold air. The rep did it then told me who the company was that was gonna come out. They ended up calling me Monday and came out Monday. It didn't take the repairman no time before he figured out what was wrong with it. There are things that are changing over the years though. When I first was referred to AHS, they covered a lot more, like roofs. I had a sump pump that went out and it was covered. Then the sump pump went out. I called and they said they no longer deal with sump pumps. They're still a great company but once the policy changes, I wish they would inform the customers and send something out stating what’s no longer covered.

Recently, the AC wasn't cooling. The unit outside wasn't turning on. A repairman came, popped it open, pulled one part off and put the new part on. It started right up and started cooling immediately. It was great. He was very busy but said, "I know it's a holiday weekend and most people don't work on weekends. But I don't mind because this is my busy time. I'm happy to be working." This time around, the response time was excellent. The last time I had a problem, it took a couple days for things to get going.
With American Home Shield, I'm thankful that I can pick what I can have covered. I like the pricing too. The last company I was using charged me an arm and a leg, but they didn't do the work. However, American Home Shield's contractor list is a little sketchy. I appreciate that they're independent workers, but there are no true businesses behind some of them. I filed a claim for my garage door that didn't work. There were some automated emails and texts about who to expect a call from which is important in these days when there are so many phone calls of places I don't expect. Those are important parts about establishing communications with a vendor that gets assigned. The repairman was a very friendly fellow. He showed me what was going on and how to help that not to happen again. He took a look at what was going on and assessed the situation. He filled out his paperwork. The sensor problem I was having was apparently more sensitive than what I understood. He was non-judgmental. I went into lots of details, and he was very kind with that and answered all my questions. When old systems which don't run the most efficiently go bad, it hurts to replace them, but American Home Shield goes ahead and replaces them.

I had a really slow drain in my bathroom sink for the last year and it was beyond what I could do using over-the-counter products. I needed a plumber to come out, give an assessment and perform a service, so I called American Home Shield. The customer service experience was easy, and someone was out immediately. This particular instance was pleasant, but I've also had unpleasant experiences with American Home Shield. I had some electrical work that needed to be done and the electrician gave a recommendation. However, American Home Shield didn't want to fulfill the recommendation and said that if I wanted to pay another deductible, they'd send out another electrician to get an opinion. If a professional is giving a recommendation, they should err on the side of that professional and cover the claim.

We had a hot water heater replaced. That one went well. On another claim, American Home Shield sent a vendor to my house who told me the HVAC had to be replaced. Then I got an email from American Home Shield to pay $2,550. I hit the accept button and that went through. Apparently, they needed a second opinion. A repairman came and said the same thing, that the whole system is shot. Then I get another email from the American Home Shield saying I owe $480. By that point, I was confused. Why was there such a difference between $2,550 and $480?
I was calling about that and trying to get an answer, but I never got an answer. I was very frustrated. I couldn't understand the girl very well, and I asked to talk to the supervisor. Apparently, they don't have supervisors there that could assist. I ended up calling the second vendor who told me that American Home Shield was not going to replace it. They wanted to fix it that was why it was only the $480. American Home Shield ordered the part a couple of days ago. The vendor told me it would be two to three days.

What was wrong with my refrigerator was that my icemaker wasn't making ice. It was popping. It was also leaking water. The guy said he fixed the leaking water part. But he said I needed a filter and that I have to go out and buy my own filter. If they come in there to fix it, they should be able to supply the filter too. I am gonna have to order the filter and screw it in myself. That's 60 something dollars. He also didn't speak good English. He was trying to understand me and I was trying to understand him. The gas company said I had a gas leak so they shut off the service to the house. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they contacted me back almost immediately. They provided me with a different provider at first, which I didn't have a good experience with. I worked with Mega Star before, so I asked for them. They are always great. The repairman came out quickly. He had to go under the house. First, he isolated the inner line from the outer line. He determined there was no leak in the house. Then he went outside and pressurized that line. He determined that the leak was in the yard. However, American Home Shield wouldn't cover it. I'm gonna have to pay $3,700 to have it fixed.
The service from American Home Shield has been good overall. I've had their contractor out to repair my air conditioner several times over the years. But I am disappointed that something like this on my property is not covered. I don't expect them to cover the entire yard but that's a significant thing and it's not the kind of thing that goes out. This gas pipe is 75 years old. I don't see why they can't cover that.

I've had Home Shield for almost eight or nine years. Every time that I had an issue, it was resolved. The most recent company was awesome. The tech actually took the time to explain what was going on, what was necessary, why the issue occurred in the first place, and what steps could help prevent it and help maximize my AC unit to make it more efficient. He did a great job. But previously for other issues, it took a little bit of time with working with some of the companies just for the part of scheduling.
When I have to make a phone call, it's usually pretty brief and it's to the point. I don't usually have to hold for very long because Home Shield has that "We'll call you back" option. But I've never not been able to reach somebody. That's the positive. Every interaction I've had has been pretty good except for one. They messed up the installation the first time. Within a year, I had to replace the unit again because they didn't install it right. Home Shield covered that cost up minus the cost for the parts that aren't covered under the warranty.
It's 100 and something plus degrees in Texas right now. Our unit just wasn't getting cold and the upstairs unit just stopped working totally. I put in two separate tickets for the person to be able to service both of them. I had to wait a couple more days for him to come back. Even though he knew the part he needed to get was at the warehouse, he had to wait until the ticket came in. That's the only negative. That aside, the technician was great. The motor on the outside unit needed to be replaced on the fan. It was done pretty quickly once he had the part. Also, because of the upstairs unit was out, it made the downstairs unit work harder. He had to add some more Freon to make it level out and make it work right. Currently, everything is working. It's been a good experience with American Home Shield all in all. It's paid for itself. As far as taking the worry out of having to take a big hit all at once, I like it.

My unit didn't seem like it was blowing cold enough. I wanted to have it checked out to make sure it was operating properly. Originally, I placed it with Home Shield saying it wasn't operating but when the contractor called me, I actually changed it slightly. I explained to the person who was gonna come that my unit was operating but not as well.
A nice young man came. He made sure that everything was working properly. We have an older unit and he admitted that maybe in a year or so, we might need to replace it. But he confirmed that it was still working. He wasn't there very long. He just said it was functioning but it's probably near the end of its useful life a little bit.
I've had Home Shield for five or six years because I knew our house is a little older and some of the major appliances were older. I like the added protection should something go wrong with a major appliance. It's a little breathing room. Home Shiels is a reputable home warranty business. They've certainly come out a number of times for us. They're very quick when you go on the website and say you need a contractor. They get back to you and let you know that they've set something up. They're very prompt.
They basically will repair but if something's not repairable, they will replace it. But sometimes, that's a gray area. One time, the refrigerator wasn't working. Techs came out twice and they didn't quite get it right. I didn't even want them to come out a third time. In the end, I just went and bought a fridge. I know Home Shield is on erring on the side of not maybe replacing but at a certain point, I don't think you should have to go three visits before they replace if something's not working.

I could have avoided all that.
I also had a refrigerator that was making noise. The tech who came for the dishwasher said, "You have to order a part for the refrigerator." It's okay but it's been a couple of weeks. The first guy that came tried to fix it but he didn't. A second guy came and he blew some air through it. He got it all unclogged so everything's good now.

American Home Shield is a good company. I use it for my current home and then my previous home as well. I'm a customer of them for about five years. I like the coverage they're providing. So far, they covered pretty much everything that I had problem in my home. Recently, I had a stoppage issue and few of my faucets were leaking. So, North Gate fixed that. I called on Friday. They're closed on weekend. So, I had to wait over the weekend. I do understand not many companies work over the weekends. On Monday, I just called the company. I didn't wait for them to call me. I just called them. Luckily, they have the same day appointment available and they were able to accommodate me. I had a good experience with North Gate. They sent them twice. One was for my toilet leak at that time. The second time was my stoppage issue. Both times, the North Gate Plumbing people are good.
I called AHS to file the claim. I normally call them. It's good because I get to talk to somebody when I call so I can explain all the problems. I do like the automated system but when I call in, it only takes one because they give only certain options. I cannot really explain everything with one option. So, I always have to choose the talk to agent option. Then I have to add a few more things to my claim.
I wish they can give more options or give the consumer a chance to add additional options or if you can write in detail. That would help a lot. That way I don't have to talk to anybody. I can just go directly online and explain the problem, pick one or two options, but give additional details options so I can explain what else needs to be done. Mostly, I call in either for my refrigerator or my plumbing issues. The customer service reps are good. They're listening when I have something to add on. They are helpful. They understand what I'm talking about, and then they add it.

I've been satisfied with the service. I've had plumbing done and I got a request in for my HVAC to get looked at. The contractors set up availability and came again once available. AHS saves on out of pocket expenses. This is an unexpected event and it would have been way more money for me to have a plumber do the job than go through American Home Shield.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for at least 15 years. I recently had an experience with my garage door. On my contract, it says what's not covered, which is the door and the track assembly. However, it wasn't the door and track assembly that went out. It was the spring and tensioner. On my contract, it says all parts are covered. It does not say that that spring which is not attached to the track assembly is not covered. I asked for a supervisor to call me back on which I'm still waiting. I'm extraordinarily unhappy.
American Home Shield is supposed to call me back a couple of days ago. When I called and said I needed to speak to a supervisor, I was told I could only be put to the escalation team. I said, "Okay. But I want to speak to someone with management capacity." She said she could not do that. She could only refer it to the escalation team. Some young lady called me from the escalation team and I asked if she was a supervisor. She said, "No. Okay. You wanna talk to a supervisor? Let me have my supervisor call you back." I asked if they will be calling me back today and she said yes. That was two days ago.
I had to pay for the spring assembly out of pocket and I want American Home Shield to reimburse me for that. I was very happy with the service of the garage door person who came out. He said, "I need to fix the spring before I can check on everything else." After he replaced the spring, he discovered there were other things wrong with the motor. He made those repairs as well. He was very efficient. What's not efficient is the American Home Shield's portion of it. It's terrible. I don't even think customer service is in America. It sounds like they're from the Philippines because, so far, the only person I've talked to are Filipinos. I'm still waiting for management to call me back. American Home Shield needs to be more efficient with their phone service. They need to have people that are empowered to do something. For them to tell me that they have no capability of connecting me with the supervisor is outrageous.
Dear Elbert,
We appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

My unit gave an error message that it was not draining. After checking it several times and still didn't, my husband checked what they say to do in the maintenance book to see if the filter is clogged. It was not. We called Home Shield and immediately talked to a representative. She took all the information and then gave me the name and number of the contractor that was approved for my area. She also told me she was issuing a work order to them immediately but that I could call them and schedule if I wish to.
That was at 4:10 on Friday afternoon before the July 4th holiday weekend. I called the contractor, 5 Star, and left a message on their recorder as they were not in the office. They said on their recorder that I could also schedule online. I went online and requested a scheduled appointment. I let them know what the model was, what the machine was, and what the issue was. I did not expect to hear from them until Wednesday but they replied back with an email on Sunday and told me they would be here on that Monday between 11:00 and 1:00.
The guy who came gave me a call when he was leaving his last job to say he was on his way and to verify again what we were working on and what the problem was. He was here by 11:15. He had the machine fixed it. By the time he troubleshoot it and everything, it was probably half an hour. He replaced the pump in it. You could see when he pulled the old pump out that the impeller thingy was broken off. He buttoned it all up and tested it. He was good to go within an hour and we were very happy. I would recommend both American Home Shield and 5 Star, 100%. They were awesome. American Home Shield is well worth having. It saved us money.
Dear Christy, we greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

The service so far has been outstanding. When I've needed something done, I get a call in a very timely manner. Right now I'm waiting to see if that continues because my refrigerator went out. Other than that, AHS should let the customer know what is not covered at the time the service person is doing the repair so they know how much they're going to owe. My credit card has been zapped for small amounts of $36 and $73 and I don't know what those are for because there is no reason given.

We've had American Home Shield since I moved into the house about five years ago. I've used them various times throughout the years for different repairs and things around the house. In the past couple of months, I've used them quite a few times. Every time I think about canceling the home warranty, something comes up and I use it. I'm actually really glad that I have it.
On Monday, I put in a request for service on the American Home Shield website. I saw that there was a water leak in the under area. This one just went into my basement. I had a call and had someone come out that afternoon. They saw what the problem was and fixed it. That was done. I had another plumbing claim and that one took a little bit of time to get repaired because the person was out of town. But that one was not an emergency situation so it was fine. We also had our oven repaired in the past couple of months or so. Everyone came out and did the work. I haven't had any issues since then. The only thing with American Home Shield is my cost per year has gone up suddenly. That's the only thing that I will probably reach out about at some point to see if I can get that lowered again. It's just that little creeping up to where it's going to get to a point that it's not as easy to keep it ongoing. I have to really think, is it worth the value?

Working with AHS was great. They gave me me the option to buy one and they would reimburse me. I recommend AHS.

I called AHS again today for an electrical problem. But I don't know if they're coming or going because they're letting other people do it. I have a hard time understanding the people that I call. My air conditioner started to fritz out back in mid June. To their credit AHS did send someone out pretty fast and that first claim with AHS went well. However, the repair didn’t hold. I had to submit a recall (not AHS' fault and they were great about that). The HVAC company came back out on 27 June and recommended I get a whole new system because mine is really old and malfunctioning. They submitted to American Home Shield for authorization, and two weeks later I’m STILL waiting for it to be approved. Meanwhile it’s staying around 85° in my house with fans on and windows open. I’ve called every day and they keep giving me scripted empathy and telling me that the usual time to get an authorization is 24 to 48 hours…But it’s been two weeks!
When I point that out to the customer service people basically just tell me there’s nothing they can do. I just have to wait for the authorization department to make a decision. However, of course, I can’t talk to anybody in that department and neither can they. They just “escalate it”. So… Basically, I’m helpless. I just feel deflated and sad and grumpy about the whole thing. Me, and my two kids are especially miserable at night when we’re trying to sleep. The contractor is ready to do the repair, but their hands are tied without that authorization. My hands are tied, too. This is a long time to wait and not get answers, and of course I’m terrified they are going to deny the authorization and I’m going to be completely up a creek. I’ll change this review with an update if anything good happens. For now, though, I can’t say that I’d recommend this company.

At first, I thought my washing machine didn't work. American Home Shield sent out a man from Sears to look at it and he diagnosed that it was the outlet. So, he talked to AHS and they sent the electrician. A GFI outlet near my washing machine stopped working and the tech replaced that as well as another box while he was here. It was excellent service. He was well-equipped and communicated with me well. He got home a few minutes before I did and was very courteous. He was doing some paperwork waiting for me to get home. He is a member of the Guild of Electricians, which is a superior certification or membership than just an ordinary journeyman electrician. He was well-spoken, clean, knew where his tools were and did a good job. AHS has come through every time.
I live in the country and my web connection is unreliable, so I hate doing anything on the web. Plus, I'm old and I got to talk to a person. A lot of the representatives are Oriental and their English is not sometimes as articulate as you might wish. But they have been helpful and I would rather do that than do things on the web.

He left a bunch of tiles and staples up there and didn't fix everything he was supposed to. He also didn't clean up a mess he left and paper fell down to the ground. AHS never gave me another roofer. Also, I don't understand why they had to hire somebody all the way in Asheboro which is over 100 miles away. They need to get people closer by. I'm sure there are plenty of roofers around my area. My air conditioner was not turning on and I tried to submit the claim online but it didn't fully go through. I have been assigned to someone but it didn't give me a dispatch number. So when I called the people, they didn't have my information on file. When I called American Home Shield, they gave me a different vendor, which ended up being fine because United Air Temp was great. But it was an inconsistent experience. Then, I went through a situation where AHS assigned me to another company that was booked up and told AHS several days in a row to not book with them. So I tried to get them to reschedule me to someone else or move me to someone else that I could get someone out. And AHS said they couldn't unless they talked live to the original contractor that they had assigned.
I have a text message and an email from the guy telling me no. It's a cancellation of the request. The AHS reps said they tried calling him and he didn't answer. So I had to three-way him in so that he could tell AHS that. And they finally canceled it and got me someone out. So it was a not so great experience. But the techs who came out were very professional and did everything they could. We had kept the air conditioner off for probably 12 hours. So, when we clicked it, it turned back on. They said nothing looked wrong so if we have another problem, it's likely inside of the unit itself. And as a company, they can't go inside that unit and I need a Carrier specialist. So, they told us to call AHS if we had the problem again and tell them to send a Carrier specialist. So I did that and AHS reassigned it back to United Air Temp. Then, I had to call United Air Temp for them to cancel it and to tell them to refer us to a Carrier specialist.
I had to call American Home Shield back and they said they would assign me a Carrier specialist within 24 to 48 hours. I literally didn't have an air conditioner. I have a two-year-old and it was in the middle of summer. AHS found me someone and I ended up calling this place. It was the most unprofessional place that I ever experienced in my life. So, I just called other people and paid out of pocket because I couldn't afford to keep screwing around. And they were able to come out and they were able to deal with the problem.
When I called the company that AHS had referred me to that was supposed to be a Carrier specialist, they had their “our office is closed” message until 9:00. But their website said that they were open at 8:00. When I called at 9:00, it was that auto message that tells you you're the first person in the queue. Three minutes later, it said I was the third person in the queue. Two minutes later, it told me to give a call back number and they would call me back. But they didn't call me back for four hours. This was on Wednesday and they said the earliest available appointment they could give me was next Monday. That was not gonna work so I called AHS and they charged me another service charge. They didn't tell me they were gonna do that and I had to tell them they need to refund me my service charge and to cancel that vendor.
I've used AHS for another house that I had and I didn't have a problem with them. But that was over four and a half years ago. They've come down a bit over the last few years. Going into the next house, I would need to know a lot more details from them around what they do or don't cover. It's great that they have a Carrier specialist. But I've come to realize that their service charge is more than if I went directly to the vendor itself. I called the Carrier specialist and it was $20 cheaper for them to just come out and do it. So I would not go the same route again. For appliances, AHS is probably fine. But I would not want it for HVAC again.

I like American Home Shield because I am saving money when it comes to having to replace or repair items in my home but the companies that they hire are not the best. It's been hard getting them to switch the company that comes out if they're not doing what they're supposed to do. So that's fighting tooth and nail, and that could be the customer service and not doing their part. But I can't blame that on American Home Shield, because I finally got a representative that did their job. And when I did, the customer service was good.
The contractor for my AC unit didn't read everything that was covered under my policy. They didn't apply my discount and we kept going back and forth. They wanted to repair the coil. They were putting a Band-Aid on something instead of replacing it. And then, they wanted to overcharge me for the anti-freeze. I finally got a person who understood what I was talking about and they said they were gonna get a whole new company to come out to meet their customer's needs. I didn't have to pay another $125 for another company to come out. AHS washed that away and I reported the technician that came out, because they said either I pay it or I don't.
I went all of last summer with no AC. All we had were fans and after a while, they got too hot. So I ended up going to my family member's house so I wasn't at home for the whole summer. That's where I ask myself if I like American Home Shield. But whenever I had any other issues, like when my microwave went out and when something happened to my refrigerator, I thank God for them.
I also had a slight issue with the contractor that did the dryer. It needed a part and the process took about a week. AHS needs to think about the people that they're hiring to do jobs for us, because it's hard, once they lock in. And if we are not satisfied with the service, they should give us the option to choose another one instead of saying we’re locked in so we have to deal with the same company that came out. Or AHS should at least allow us to get a second opinion because one person found one thing and the other person found something else. So paying for one company to come out and then they find a way or they read what we cover, and they find a way to get more money out of us, because whatever they're getting paid by Home Shield isn't enough. And I think that that's unfair to the customer. My renewal is coming up and I'm looking at that whole aspect of trying to figure out if I'm gonna renew or not.

I have an older home and my systems are starting to break down, and American Home Shield has been great on getting the repair work done. The warranty is reasonably priced. So, we're satisfied with it. The tech came in, installed the water heater and took the old one away. He even took out the carpet that was mildewy in the garage. So, Alfred Mousley Plumbing is good. I like them. They fixed the toilet a little bit but it started rocking again. The tech said it's because our floor is unlevel and that is not covered. So, I had an outside contractor come in to do that work. I've had good experiences with all the contractors of AHS. They've all been professional. They don't mansplain, but they're nice and friendly.

The techs have been very good. We recently had water come from our washing machine and, the way it's set up, it came into the house and we had to have insurance come in and out. With what they did, they fixed the one part that was causing part of the problem. But we just called and said that we needed him to come again because, in correcting the water damage, which was not an American Home Shield thing, we found another leak in the pipe that they had to expose to dry out the walls from the leak that American Home Shield had fixed. Everything has been done very quickly. When the phone rang, I thought it might be the plumbing company that American Home Shield sent before on the other issue.
AHS’ timeliness in their response and having a technician come and deal with the problem are big benefits of having a policy with them. We're paying so much a month, but I look at it as sort of a savings plan. We had a refrigerator that died and they paid for a new refrigerator of the same value. The microwave oven died and the contractor couldn’t fix it and it didn't cost us anything.

The air conditioner wasn’t cooling and the claims process with American Home Shield was hard. They kept giving me the runaround saying the other company accepted the claim and the other company said that they were never sent the claim. So, I was without air for a week and that was a problem. When I called the contractor, they told me what I needed to do to be able to get the claim done again but American Home Shield should have canceled the first claim without me having to call back five times in one week. They should have done it again if they're saying that one person picked it up and the other person saying they don't have it. I shouldn't have had to buy an AC unit and sit in the heat for a week. But Bruce, the tech, was very nice. I liked him. He told me what was going on with it and what I needed to do. He changed the motor right away.
American Home Shield wouldn't replace my heater. They said it was free because I’d been paying for this policy for five years. But when it came down to it, they wanted to charge $2,000 to remove it. Then, they wanted to bring up all this fine print that I had never seen before. If that's what they're gonna do, they should have the fine print so people can actually see it and find it easily versus just having to dig or call and get that information.

I had a guy come out for my air conditioner in the last couple of days because one of my units was acting up. I talked with him and I said I don't know if it's not the Nest that I have on there. And I told him I had bought a new Honeywell but it's showing that it's not picking up any signals. So he said he would replace the Nest, and he did. I had a box sitting there with the paperwork from the Honeywell in it and he laid the Nest inside. Then, he put his tools on top of it, which made me feel a little uncomfortable. He kept saying I would probably need to replace my air conditioners. I've got two air conditioners and we’re talking $20,000 here and up until now, I haven't had a problem with them in several years.
At that point, he found where the switch was that was causing the air conditioner to not turn on and he got it going. But I noticed that the temperature was set at 70 but I was getting 76 degrees. I contacted the guy and he said he would come back out. He looked up my contract and said that American Home Shield covers me for $10 per pound for the R22 Freon but he could charge $300 a pound and I was gonna need seven pounds. I said it was not gonna work and he said that’s what he charges his customers. I'm in a position where I'm gonna have to have it. But I had bought a portable air conditioner and it’s upstairs. It will literally cool half of my house so I said I was gonna contact one of my guys from work.
The guy said my systems are old so I need to replace them anyway and I could probably get a discount through American Home Shield. Then he could come out and replace it for me. He was talking $8,000 for me to replace my air conditioner with my heater and then, I'd have to do the same thing for the next one. So he’s talking $16,000. And I don't have that right now. It just didn't sound reputable. I'm waiting for my guy from outside to come. My guy said that on a two-and-a-half ton of air conditioner, I probably need three pounds. I told him I'll do what I need to do and he said he would be able to get it done.
I've been with American Home Shield off and on for 10 years and it has been good. I went from $55 to $100 and that part has been a little frustrating. I understand that contractors have increased their prices. From the customer perspective, when it goes up $20 a month, it's adding a month at the end. Actually, it adds two months at the end. Most of the time, AHS has handled things very well. They have taken things off of my contract at times that I’ve noticed. My water softener was there at one point and when the next contract came, it wasn't there anymore. In general, the people from AHS seem to be nice.

They saw that there was a part that needed to be repaired and advised that it may take a little bit longer to get the part in because the item had to be approved by American Home Shield. It could possibly take up to 24 to 48 hours for AHS to approve it but they did it within about an hour. The tech was able to get the part, come out and fix the refrigerator a little bit quicker than he expected. He was very informative. When he left for the day, he also advised me of anything that I could foresee possibly happening and how to properly tell if my refrigerator was properly cooling or not. He gave me the information not to go out and go full grocery shopping until what he advised me to watch for had actually occurred to make sure that we didn't have any wasted money.
My experience with American Home Shield has been good. I get someone out to take care of all of my situations relatively quickly and I have yet to have to pay for anything that I shouldn't have to pay for. Everything that's said in my warranty to be covered has been covered. So, I'm very satisfied. I like not having to find my own people and just being able to go on to one app, select what my issue is and then taking care of having someone come out. I'm extremely pleased with my services with AHS.

I'm happy with the customer service people. They're very responsive. Whenever you have a problem, they get someone to call you within 24 hours, and that's perfectly fine. But each and every time that I've had interaction with AHS, especially on my appliances, they send out incompetent repair people who don't know what they're doing. You can supposedly call your own people but you have to pay for it out of your pocket and then turn in a receipt. The last thing that I had repaired was a dishwasher and it was five weeks before I got a check from them to replace the dishwasher which caught on fire inside. It needed to be replaced from the beginning. I sent some pictures. But AHS still sent the people out three times. Finally, I had to call and get not nice to them and tell them that this machine is gonna stink my kitchen because it smells like burning.
The customer service is good. But we always end up paying a lot for whatever it is, although I didn't pay anything for the dishwasher. They sent me a check for what it was worth and I purchased another dishwasher. But that was five weeks of me waiting for someone to come. The people were so incompetent and they were replacing everything in the dishwasher piece by piece. And the last time they came out, they ordered the wrong parts, and it was for a black dishwasher and not a stainless. And I said we were done because they hadn't even started to replace the insulation inside the dishwasher, which was burnt and smelling.
The people who came out for the air conditioning are different than the people who come out for the appliances in our area. The two fellows who came out this week are very nice. My central air conditioning unit wasn't keeping up with the heat and the techs said it was the compressor. Hopefully, they'll have my air conditioner fixed by next week. But it's gonna cost me $1,200 for the Freon because I don't have the plan. I didn't even know there was a plan that covered Freon. I'm gonna call AHS and check on that. But it happens.
The last time they worked on my air conditioner, I ended up paying $1,100 but the other time was for retrofitting because they couldn't order the same unit in my attic and they had to retrofit. But that was still cheaper than me doing it without American Home Shield. Even if I have to pay $1,100 for some kind of replacement of some unit, it still works out cheaper than me paying for it out of my pocket, even with the amount I pay monthly and the service call charge.

My pool heater wasn't working and American Home Shield assigned it to A Man For All Reasons. The tech contacted me and asked me to send him some pictures, which I did. Then, he was waiting to hear back from AHS because of where he was traveling from. He called me back last Saturday and said that AHS had approved that he would be coming out to take a look at my heater. He was excellent. He was on time, did what he had to do and kept me informed. The issue hasn't been rectified and I'm waiting to hear back from American Home Shield. The tech was letting them know that because of the age of the unit, he was trying to find parts in order to fix it. It'll be a week since he finished and Monday was when he advised American Home Shield of his findings.
AHS has come out several times for my refrigerator and now, my pool heater, and my garbage disposal. I've been happy each time that they've come out. I tried to get another friend of mine who just bought a house to sign up. I told her that AHS was great to have. But she bought all new appliances which are still under warranty, so she doesn't need it.
Thanks Georgia. We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

There were several issues with the refrigerator already but the worst one was the water started to leak on the back of the refrigerator. We didn't notice it was leaking so it started to cause problems behind my wall. The techs came and fixed the water line for the water dispenser. Then, the refrigerator had many leaks when it comes to the rubber. So sometimes, the refrigerator temperature wasn't like it should be because the rubbers would not seal completely. We would notice the refrigerator wasn't closing correctly anymore but I was thinking it was part of the age of the refrigerator. The gasket had to be ordered so we had to wait for the rest of that to be decided. Some companies would give incentives to recommend but even if American Home Shield didn't do incentives, since I've always been satisfied with their service, I tell people they should go with this company.
Thanks Illea. We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

I've had four claims with American Home Shield and I’ve always done them online. The communication has been good through text messages and email. The company, Comfort, called as well as sent a text message for confirmation. The person I spoke with was very nice and kind. Daniel, the gentleman who came out, was very communicative. He let me know what was going on and what he replaced. It was a very fast, quick turnaround. I didn't have to wait for any parts to be ordered so the air conditioner was fixed the same day he came out. The ease of putting the claim in to AHS is very easy as far as the online process. It’s very user-friendly. The monthly charge is affordable and as long as I've had AHS, they've only gone up $10. I hope it's not gonna increase anymore.

One of the showers in my home was not receiving any water and it was related to a cartridge issue so the contractor came out and replaced that cartridge. They were punctual and professional. They analyzed the issue, walked us through it, and resolved it fairly quickly. American Home Shield’s website is intuitive and easy to navigate. Their home warranty program provides peace of mind and their service is good. However, even though I'm on the maximum tier plan, they could cover more of the repair than what they currently offer.

I got the automated message saying the person from High Priority Plumbing was on his way and you can track it if you want. Then, he showed up. He was great. He got everything done and let us know which ones were things that we could fix in the future. The back was just loose, so he showed us how to tighten it and something else had to be done to the front. Four years ago, American Home Shield was one of the first ones we saw and we gave it a shot, and things are good. It's nice to know that I'm covered in case something goes wrong. Our water heater was bad at the last place and we got a replacement. But it was mid-COVID and parts were hard to get. So, they knew that there might be faulty issues with the part that they replaced it with.

Three years ago, they sent out A-US Air for an air conditioning problem. hey found that all three of our units need to have their coils replaced. They sent out four different people over a two-week period and they did everything wrong. They didn't even put one of the units together right so water leaked through the ceiling of my house. I called the company about it and they said they weren't responsible for it. That was a very bad experience.
Recently, my AC wasn't cooling. I didn't want A-US Air to come back. But the first contractor AHS scheduled said that they were gonna have to cancel the appointment because their tech fell off a ladder. So it was rescheduled with A-US Air. The tech was very knowledgeable and friendly. He checked the Freon first and then checked something else. He said the issue was a capacitor and he had the part in his van. He replaced it. AHS is pretty good.

Other than that, the claims have been fine. It's seamless and I like that I don't have to do a lot of paperwork. They have used the same service number to do the HVAC and they've been pretty good. I do wish that they had more options for contractors if there was an issue with the contractor in my area -- somebody within their network.

He went above and beyond what his normal duty is. Thank God that he had caught them because they were little leaks. So it didn't do any damage. But he told me what to look out for if I see any water. American Home Shield connected me with a company for my air conditioning that went out yesterday. The company texted me and said, “Do not call us. We will schedule an appointment on your behalf.” So they texted me with the appointment date and time. But that's annoying because what if I'm not here and they specifically say, “Don't call us.” It's 95 degrees in my house. So I don't wanna wait a week, which was the day they gave me. I contacted American Home Shield and they got it changed to Monday instead of Thursday, which is better. But the fact that the company doesn't want phone calls is odd to me.
I had a problem with my AC a couple of years ago. The issue was the evaporator unit. It was the outside unit that actually went bad and it was spilling Freon. Freon at the time cost $1,500. American Home Shield kept trying to fix it. Even the technicians that come say it was unfixable. When they would fix it twice, which cost me $3,200 for Freon that did not stay in my unit for more than 30 seconds. I was out of AC in this house for about a month before they said that they'll replace the unit.
The HVAC stuff that I'm experiencing now was the only negative experience I had with American Home Shield. All the technicians that they sent out have been professional and on time. American Home Shield has been a good resource to have when I do come across issues. I don't hesitate to reach out to them. They do respond pretty quickly. But the rate with American Home Shield has gone up. It's $100 per incident now. It’d be nice to be able to bundle similar incidences like a washer and a dryer issue.

I normally do my claims with American Home Shield online because of my schedule. The website is all right. I just hate that my payment every month keeps going up and up and up. I've been a customer since 2014 and I started out at 45.99. Now, I'm up to 70. I did a claim and an electrician came like he was supposed to. I told them I couldn't always get to the phone. They said, "Doesn't matter. We got a set time. If I don't get you on the phone, I'll still be there." That worked for me. The tech called me and told me he was on his way. I put my dog up and he did his stuff. This service company is the bomb. They did everything they were supposed to.
I recently did a claim for my AC and the techs are supposed to be here tomorrow. I've had my AC repaired by American Home Shield and I always have to come up with almost $1,000 out of my pocket every year since 2014. I've got all the receipts proving that they have to come out every year about the same thing or they would say, "It's this part now that needs to replace or this part." Because of the out of pocket expense, I've been looking at this other company that's advertising for 7.99 a month. Also, I gotta call American Home Shield about the refrigerator that I had repaired a month ago. It's acting up again and that's another $100 I have to throw out. American Home Shield is not worth it.

I've been happy with AHS through the years. It's good to have some form of insurance to protect you from major costs that are unexpected. It's even better for some of the times when you've got an older house and you've got a lot of different systems to worry about, and especially if you're by yourself. But we had a thunderstorm and then, we were without air conditioner for three whole days. We burned up in this house. We called American Home Shield but they said there was nothing they could do because they don't work on weekends. They are terrible.

I'm a heart patient and my mother who is 83 years old, is a pacemaker and a heart patient. I told AHS but they didn't care. I pay them my dues. They should have some kind of clause over the weekends and have emergency people for air conditioning. This is summertime and they don't have emergency stuff like that. You just have to wait in the heat and the only thing they can suggest is go out and buy fans. When you're in a hot house, a fan isn’t gonna do anything but blow hot heat. I am not gonna recommend AHS to anybody. All they wanna do is take money from me. They will tell you one thing and don't do anything that they say. This isn’t just it. I've had a couple occasions in which I've spoken to the American Home Shield reps but for the most part, you set up the appointments online so you don't have to speak with customer service. The techs were excellent and did the job in an expedient manner. AHS gives you a little peace of mind that you have some protection if something in your house goes down, which is important. But they could probably lower their prices.
Thanks Gerald. We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

I had a sink stoppage in the laundry room and in the kitchen sink and when I called American Home Shield, the customer service rep was alright. It wasn’t the best. I don't like that these people are from all over different places and sometimes you can't understand them. Also, you are paying a monthly fee and then, you still have to pay $100, and then you gotta pay for each incident. It looks like that’s how all the insurance companies are doing it now and I don't like that. If the techs come out to service my house, they shouldn't make me pay for plumbing, electrical, this, and that. I was with another home warranty before I went with American Home Shield and I was able to pay once they got there. AHS makes you pay before the contractor even gets there. So, I don't like that part too.

We lost our HVAC system in the heat of the summer and I called American Home Shield to put in the claim. They gave me the option of doing it online but I didn’t have my computer with me. I just had a cell phone and the rep was willing to walk me through the steps of getting someone here to check it out. I was very impressed. They sent messages of what the next step is and what I needed to do to keep it moving along so that we could get the system in because I had my parents living with us and they couldn't take the heat. They got it in quickly and it was a very easy process. It was a very good experience and everything is working great now. I had grown up hydrangeas all around the system and the techs worked with me to make a way to where I could move the least amount of plants possible for them to still get in. They were kind and helpful, because I had an injured arm. The whole experience was lovely.
AHS didn't try to weasel out when such an expensive thing happened. I've had other things where people just say it’s not covered or find a way to just cover a part and then six months later, it's dead again. But it's out of warranty. AHS wasn’t like that. They came in, saw what the problem was and that it needed to be replaced, and repaired the whole thing.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY!!! We have been using AHS since 2008, recently cancelled our policy (early July 2023). We have noticed over the last 8+ years their customer service has declined since they have decided to outsource to another country (Philippines). The individuals are rude and they are arrogant. When finally reaching someone in the US, the representative states they hear this all the time .. However, nothing is done about it.
When canceling my policy with them they tried blaming the individual who came and did some repairs (I had to repeat myself at least TWICE that it was AHS, not the company that did the work); dumbfounded that the individual from the Philippines who was canceling my policy could not get it through her head that I paid for an American based company, not a Philippines based company and I was tired of the rudeness I get every time I call. Finally after arguing with this girl about canceling the policy, she finally canceled it. I found another company the same day. Good riddance AHS.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Melinda. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

With AHS, I like the comfort of knowing that I won't encounter huge expensive costs if something breaks. I really have been very pleased with AHS. My experience with their techs has been very positive for the most part. If I have an issue with a technician or the timing of them coming out, I reach back out to American Home Shield. They either make a call in order to try to get someone to go out sooner or they will dispatch a different person who can go sooner.

AHS is very convenient. It's also a good deal. For my recent claim, my air conditioner was not cooling the house down and it was not maintaining pressure. The techs came out twice for it. It was my fault the first time. I didn't follow it up because it seemed like it was better, and I blew it off. The second time, the guy was there a long time. He worked really hard. He said I had a leak. He told me what he did. He put a sealant in there. He said, “With any luck, the leak is so small. This will take care of it. But if it's not and you feel all this happening again, call again, and we'll have to go back in and look for it again.” He was great.

They couldn't get the refrigerant that's in there ‘cause it's an old one, so they have to replace all the refrigerant. What I don't like is that it hasn't been fixed yet. American Home Shield hasn't approved it yet and it’s in the 90s all week here. Our house is in the 80s.

American Home Shield always gets back with me within 24 hours and the problem is usually resolved. The technicians are great. They could have after hours technicians though. I had an emergency two weeks ago. I had to pay out of pocket because it was a plumbing issue after hours. Nobody would have been available at that time. But American Home Shield has saved me a lot of money. A lot of people think they're a rip-off but they've had to replace two of my appliances because the repairs would have been too expensive. Last week I had to have a new hot water heater put in. Any kind of home repairs are expensive now. Even if I never have to use the home warranty, it's peace of mind. I called to check on the status of my warranty 'cause I was having issues with the dashboard. This was my fault when I initially set up the account. My address is ** but I hit ** by accident. When I was going in the dashboard, I was seeing my neighbor's. The rep instructed me on how to add my property so that I would see it. Once I did that, the service request button was up. We finished up and I placed a service request for my water heater through the dashboard. When I let the rep on the phone go, I started chatting with Jessica to make sure I was selecting all the right boxes. She was helpful even though we weren't verbally speaking.
In less than 24 hours, I heard from Advanced Plumbing Solutions. This was on Monday, and a plumber came out on Tuesday to evaluate what was going on. Apparently, my water heater needed to be replaced so they had to order it. I received notification via email and text message from American Home Shield that my part had been ordered. I'm waiting for the contractor to let me know when it can be installed. It was confusing to me though. Before I got the actual invoice of what my out-of-pocket expenses were gonna be, I got an email saying, "This is your problem. You might wanna add these things on to your contract." I didn't even know what I was paying for. I talked to the contractor before I accepted my out-of-pocket. I wanted to know what American Home Shield was paying for. That part was not clear at all.

Having American Home Shield, I can put in a claim and don't have to worry about trying to find a service personnel or go through all the hassle. Recently, the air wasn't blowing cold. I called the claim in to American Home Shield, and a guy came out. About a month later, it did it again. A contractor came and changed a relay. It never worked. It wasn't blowing out the vent.
I called again. They brought him back again. He went out back and cleaned an inductor. Again, I showed him that it wasn't blowing out the vent and he assured me it was fixed, which it never was. Called him back and he said the coil needed cleaning. He unsoldered the coil, brought the coil off the top of the unit, cleaned it, and was having a lot of trouble putting it back up there. My daughter called and said that he found a hole in it. But that was funny. This was the fourth trip, and it was never leaking freon. I think he accidentally knocked a hole in it. We ordered a coil and had to wait a week. They got the coil out here and went to install it. It was the wrong coil. I had to turn around and order another one. This past Saturday, he came. I helped him and we installed it. Now it's working.
It was a horrible experience and it cost me a lot of money for me. I was almost three weeks without air conditioning. I talked to several representatives, and they never would let me talk to a supervisor. I asked several times to find me a different person to come because I wasn't satisfied with the service I was getting. Again, they wouldn't allow me. We've been having heat index of 120 every day, and I'm paying $50 a day to live in my camper just to have a place to stay while I didn't have air. I'm dissatisfied with the representatives I was talking to because they were zero help. I finally got ahold of somebody that called me and I was pleased with her.
I was following up with you to see if you have an unresolved claim that we need to resolve. Please let me know if you need assistance.

It was easy to get through to a representative but they didn't handle it right. I had to call about six times in one day because the first representative told R&A that I wasn't covered for the claim. Then the representative from R&A was going along with him. That didn't sound right so I called American Home Shield back. Lo and behold, I was covered for everything including unclogging the drainage system for the AC unit. I got a call from R&A, and they told me I was not approved for the drainage system. I told them American Home Shield told me that I didn't have to pay for that. The rep said, "No. They said you have to pay for that. That is going to be $220." They said they were gonna investigate it. Someone called me back and told me I have to pay for it. I got a one-year-old grandson in my house that has had respiratory problems. I was a little concerned about that so I ended up having to pay that money out of pocket.
The technician came back and took the old part out of the unit. He told me he had to take it to the manufacturer and exchange it for the good part then they would have to come back out. I had to call their number and get on the schedule for them to come back out and put the new part in. That was on Thursday. I called them and asked, "Do you guys have an emergency system? These are gonna be some of the hottest days of the summer and we're gonna be without AC." The lady said, "No. We don't. Unfortunately, we can't get anyone out to you until Monday." The technician called me Sunday morning and said, "I'm supposed to come tomorrow morning, but I've been out of town. I have to move some things around. I'm trying to find out if you're available today."
I have the platinum plan and part of my plan is I'm supposed to get a free AC tune-up inspection. For the past two years, each time I call in to get that free inspection, they give me a website to go on to set the appointment up. I set the appointment up then get to where I'm almost finished. They ask for credit card information. If it's free, why do they need my payment information? I'm not supposed to pay anything. I haven't received it the past two years that I've had American Home Shield. It's too frustrating to even deal with them. I wouldn't recommend them to my dog.

I've had some good experiences and one terrible experience. Though it took me quite a while to get somebody out to have my furnace done, if it's my furnace or AC, it's fine. But I had somebody come out for my hot water tank and was not happy about that at all. I was considering canceling. The contractor came out and said that I voided my warranty because it was freezing cold ice outside and I rigged something up that would make my furnace work (after waiting over three weeks not being able to take a shower). They never repaired it. Sometimes I weigh it out and think the money I spend on American Home Shield every month, I could, over time, pay for whatever breaks in my home. But it's not one of those things where I can rant then rave that it's a great service.

My experience with the garage people wasn't good. I've been waiting on a higher level person from American Home Shield to get back to me to discuss the fact that we just had contractors come out and they said that things weren't covered under the warranty. We still have to pay this $100 for the fee, which I don't think is right in this situation for us. Part of the problem was the spring that was broken. I understand now after looking at the policy further that it is not covered. I didn't realize that at first. But there was a part there that was covered, and they're saying they won't cover it because it was secondary damage. There's no way of knowing that. I called the 800 number and spoke to a person who was a little bit hard to communicate with.
The person who came out to look at it, if we don't use them to repair the spring, doesn't wanna come back and put that little part on. They're saying that it was damaged. After all the money we paid for the warranty on a monthly basis and over the years, the fair thing to do would be to refund at least the service call fee because we're getting nothing out of that at all. The warranty only covers the garage door opener and the associated things with that. This pulley is part of that. The pulley would be covered because it's part of the opener. The spring is not covered because it's part of the door mechanism, and the door itself and not the opener.
I've had weird customer service experiences with American Home Shield. It takes a little while to get a claim done. If it's over a weekend or a holiday, you don't have somebody coming out right away. But what I like the most is not having to find somebody myself to do the work for these things. American Home Shield has a big network of people that come out and do that. Overall, the experiences have been more positive than negative. The plumbing claim went fine. The plumbing guy was punctual. He was not messing around and did it fast. He knew what he was doing.

He said he would get an electrician and I asked if I need to make that call and he said he could do that. He called the electrician and the electrician came over and the hot water now works. It's convenient having AHS. When I first started, I had to make a phone call to file claims and it was not an automated thing. But with the automated system, the process went a little bit faster. I had a recent claim and I had to call in for this one because as I was trying to submit the claim, the hyperlink or box that says submit request wouldn't light up. They answered really quick and then, Westside Electrical came out. The tech was very professional and diagnosed the problem super quick. He found that there were a couple of breakers that weren't set and he re-set them. Then, he found that one of the plug-ins was defective and he replaced that and solved it. I had a good experience with it. Also, I've called them twice for the plumbing. The plumber came out and he was a good guy. But I had one with Sears and Sears is always a train wreck. We've been with American Home Shield for about five years. Several of the properties that we have are our own and some of them are rental properties. We've had some mixed results with American Home Shield. I usually use the call-in approach versus the online when I have a claim. Sometimes, I have less of a wait, and sometimes, I have a much longer wait. Sometimes, if I need to escalate something, it seems that there's no escalation process in place. I have yet to be able to speak to a supervisor or to go to someone beyond the representative that I have.
The representatives on the phone have clearly been trained in customer service and empathy skills. It's lovely that they can try to make me feel better, but I would prefer that there be some action. We had an instance where we called in a refrigerator on March 1st of this year and as of the end of June, it had not yet been repaired. I have called multiple times and spent at least an hour each time trying to get through. Sometimes, the call is disconnected. I have to call back or I ask the American Home Shield representative to call me back. It's just been very frustrating, at times, to the point where my husband said to me, "Just remove all of our properties off of American Home Shield."
On the flip side, I had some victories in the sense that where I call in the item, the technician is properly or promptly assigned, comes out. Then they are able to diagnose and fix the item quickly. But what I have found is whenever there is a part that is being ordered, 9 times out of 10, that's where the hiccup occurs. Either the part being ordered does not come, or if it comes, they still are unable to repair the item. It's a mess and it takes forever. Then they keep referring me to A&E services or Sears home warranty to follow up, and I don't have the requisite numbers to be able to follow up with A&E. Also, A&E is on an automated line, and there's no way I can get through to a real person on that. It is incredibly frustrating. That's what happened with our refrigerator situation.
There is some communication breakdown between the vendor and American Home Shield, and you as the customer get caught up and mired in all of this. The American Home Shield representative will say to me, "Well, it's not us. It's the vendor. It's not our responsibility." But my contract is with American Home Shield, not with the vendor. So they need to be able to get their vendors to perform and communicate. I'm looking to move my properties to another home warranty service provider if it continues with American Home Shield.

I like being able to call somebody to get something worked on. Some contractors are good. I've had a terrible one recently. American Home Shield sent a company out to fix the dryer. It took them three times to do it. I would put it on casual, which would be low heat, for Under Armour type garments. But it wouldn't have a cool down period and it would just go to hot. I pulled out one set of clothes and they were permanently wrinkled. We told the contractor what was happening. They came back. First, they changed the drum motor. They came back and changed another. That didn't work. And they changed one of the circuit board things. It didn't work. It did the same thing again. The third time, they brought another technician out. And he ended up fixing it properly.
Airstar did a great job. We used Airstar for our unit and a half for years. And we told AHS, “We wanna use these guys. They know the system.” They would send somebody else out. They kept wanting to go back and get this other company that I had no knowledge about to come back out for this last service work on the air conditioning system. I said, “No, I don't want that.” So, I canceled. And the rep for Airstar worked with AHS to get them back in there to work in our unit. And they fixed it fine. It worked. The guy was there and fixed it within 20 minutes.

I like that if anything goes out, it's not a crazy amount of money out of my pocket. I made a claim recently to have someone come look at my AC unit. They sent a guy out relatively quickly who diagnosed the unit. The issue was that it was too small of a unit for my house. The tech gave me a whole bunch of information and we talked about upgrading and how much that would typically cost. He was very helpful and I learned a lot.

I've used American Home Shield on several of my properties and it's been great. I recently had to call them for my heating and cooling. My air conditioner went out and they dispatched the contractor within 24 hours, on a holiday weekend at that, and resolved my concern immediately. So overall, I would recommend them and would rate them highly. I like how easy it is to conduct business with them. It's easy to understand. Their website is super simple to navigate and the value is pretty significant as well.

I sent in an AC claim and the guy came out, inspected the problem, but didn't fix it because it's unfixable. It was just poor build. He said, “You have a unit put into your house that's suitable for a 1,300-square-foot house.” He was great. He gave us some advice, told us what the size needed to be, what to look for, and then how to possibly alleviate some of the problems without having to buy a new $8,000 unit. He told us to get a portable unit for one room and close the damper in that room once it's controlled. That'll help the rest of the house cool down. Overall, American Home Shield has great service and quality people.

American Home Shield is convenient to have. Especially when you have rental properties, you're not always able to go and take care of them yourself. Everything is covered. Last week, I had an AC issue on one of my properties. A contractor came. They fixed the issue. I have another claim open with another property with the AC. It was 4th of July weekend. He was able to get there the first thing Monday morning. And it was a quick fix. It was a good one.

We have two properties with American Home Shield. We've had them on the most recent property for a little bit more than a month. On the other property, I've had it for 15 years. In little things, it's good for the convenience of, "Hey, let me pay this, and can you come fix my refrigerator? That might otherwise be $800 and you pay $100 deductible." I had an incident with the washer-dryer that as soon as I had called to fix it, the motor mounts went out. So the $100 deductible was well worth not paying $1,000. So there's good and bad to it. In any situation, you don't ever want to call anybody to come out anyway.
We just bought the property in Forney, Texas, and we had it inspected, and everything was good. But it was really strange because where these houses are built, the condensation lines come off the side of the house on the second floor. My neighbor came out and said, "Hey, that's really dripping." Apparently the lines were backed up, so the contractor came and blew out the lines. I was up there with them the entire time because I am more of a hands-on person and wanted to know exactly what was going on. So they showed me. The guy was real nice. He let me tag along. In that circumstance, my experience with American Home Shield was fine. It was something that with three kids and it being with 102, I needed it done quickly. The contractor was out pretty quick and fixed it. It worked, and we were happy.

My washing machine quit and American Home Shield emailed me the day after I filed the claim that somebody had been assigned and then, that person called within 24 hours. He was wonderful. My laundry room is my catch-all room and he didn't have a whole lot of space in there to work, but he managed beautifully and didn't complain at all. He very quickly got in there and diagnosed the problem. He had to order the part, which was where I had a little bit of a problem because it took a lot longer to get it than it should have. It was close to two weeks. But when the part came in, the tech came out immediately, which happened to be July 4th, and had it in within 20 minutes. So it worked well.

When I have a claim, American Home Shield assigns the contractor right away. We had a claim last week for the air conditioner and the contractor was good. But when I had a claim for a microwave, it took a long time for AHS to replace it. If they can make the process go a little bit faster to replace an item, that would be a big help.

I saved some money with American Home Shield. I had a couple of big-ticket items, like my water heater, and it was beneficial to have this plan even though I had to pay an additional cost because of the new codes. They also did my air conditioning system. On the other hand, the minor appliance repairs, I don't feel like I've benefited from this plan, and it takes too long. They say 24 hours to 48 hours, but I've never been contacted. I have to call the vendors, and most of them, no one answers the phone. The vendors that American Home Shield uses are not good as well.
An example is this recent service. American Home Shield had my refrigerator repaired, but I'm still waiting on the microwave replacement and it's been two weeks. I called American Home Shield, they called me, but it's not a coordinated enough effort with American Home Shield. The appliance company they gave me, no one ever answers the phone. I've left messages. I looked them up and they have a rating of 1 and all kind of complaints. It's not the first time either. When I look at the reviews of the vendors they use, they're poor companies and these are the people they pair you up with.

I've always done my appointments online, and American Home Shield has always been good. I really like the technicians from A & R Appliances, so whenever there's something, I request them. They're prompt, courteous, and always have what they need for my appliances. So, I've never had to wait another two more weeks. They're consistent too. They don't change employees very often, and that's what I like. It's usually been the same technician since I started with them. Also, having American Home Shield is cheaper than having to renew the warranties on each appliance, and I'm pushing my daughter-in-law to sign up with them.

I have always liked the service that I received from Home Shield except for the time before the latest service. I was very upset with them. In my faucet in the kitchen, cold water would not come out. Apparently, it was clogged with calcium. So, I called AHS and they said that they would send somebody. They sent Reed Sewer Service. They're from the same small town that I come from. So, I knew them and I was like, "You guys fix faucets?" They were like, "Nope." AHS sent the wrong people. I asked for a refund because they sent a sewer company. I didn't have a sewer problem. I just felt like I should not have been charged for that because I didn't ask them. They said, "Well, they came out to your home." I was like, "Well, I didn't ask for sewer. I did talk to the owner of the company last night, and he said that he would call American Home Shield and tell them that they shouldn't have billed me.
The other times have been great with AHS. My husband and I have been really satisfied with them. I had my sump pump fixed the last time. As far as customer service, if I can usually get to talk to a person, it's good. A lot of times, it's that automatic thing, and it just goes round and round. Overall, in the years we've been with AHS except for a couple of times, they've sent good companies. I have referred a few people to Home Shield, and they have gotten it. We've had such good things with them.

The claim process with American Home Shield was very smooth. I did it right through their online portal. Then there were three different appliances that needed fixing. And with all three, I was able to check at once. The woman who came out and did the repairs through the repair company that they worked with was excellent. She was quick and fixed everything. She did, unfortunately, have to come out three times because there were different parts that needed to be ordered, but that was no fault of her own.
Having a policy with American Home Shield, we like that we were able to get three things fixed without really having to worry about it, buy something new, or also to even find our own repair. Also, because we're moving from out of state, we don't know the area that well. We’re learning everything from scratch. So, we like that we were able to get someone to come out who was super knowledgeable, quick, and did a great job. We now have a good contact or a recommendation for the future as well.
Wow! Thanks so much for your feedback. We appreciate your business.

American Home Shield (AHS) was purchased for us as a home warranty program upon buying a new house. The first and only claim we've submitted to them has been concerning our garage door. Our garage door would not open all the way, would not close all the way, and would often return to the up position when we tried to close it. AHS advertises that any claim you submit will receive a response within 24 hours. We submitted the initial claim on 6/2/23 and did not receive any response until 6/21/23. The vendor, Precision Door Service (PDS), finally came out on 6/22/23. Upon arrival, the vendor looked at the garage door and immediately stated that, "This won't be covered in your contract".
This is strange because he's supposed to be making an unbiased diagnosis of our garage door's issue. The information he gave me concerning our contract coverage was incorrect, in any case. While PDS was on site, he explained that a whole host of things with our garage door were in need of repair. I got out my computer to take down his exact words. He said our springs were bad and could break at any moment and that our pulleys, tracks, rollers, and hinges were in need of replacement. He also stated that his company was not qualified to touch or work on our motor.
However, the diagnosis he submitted to AHS stated only that the 'garage door' needed to be replaced (something conveniently not covered in our contract), omitting everything else he said. I filed a complain with AHS and they sent out a second vendor. He came promptly and noted the same broken parts that PDS had verbally told me and then not submitted. As well, he stated that the motor needs to be replaced. AHS then told me they would need a third opinion and will only send PDS back out. They refuse to use Rainier again and won't allow a different vendor either. Sometimes when I speak with them, they tell me PDS does not need to return and they are waiting on a cost quote from Rainier. The story changes with each rep I speak to.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Michael. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

American Home Shield is a good company. You get a lot of stuff for what you pay for. Recently, Rice Heating and Air Conditioning had to come out because our air conditioner quit working. They did the repair the same day. As soon as I let the repairman know my patient was disabled, he said, "We'll put her above the list." Apparently, somebody had tried to tape the problem before. The problem that I had with Rice was when the repairman came out to do the repair, he didn't replace the cord. I was pissed about that. I paid the $125 fee for him to come out, and he just taped it more. Now, I'm gonna have to go find a cord and do it myself.

I always check my policy to make sure what I'm trying to put on to get service is covered because not everything is covered. As long as I paid them, the claim process is fine. I would get a text or an email stating who the contractor would be. It's almost automatic and it happens so quickly. Everybody that is contracted with American Home Shield does a very good job for us.
When you have a home warranty, you don't have to pay a ton of money to have somebody come out and repair or order parts that are needed for whatever the item might be. You just pay that one fee and anything that the technician may find. Sometimes, they have to put it in for approval and that might take a couple of days, but it's usually covered. When the part comes in, the tech or the company the technicians work for call me right away. They saym, "We can be out there tomorrow.” I get that a lot.

Our first couple of years, it was wishy-washy. But recently, we've had good techs. Our air conditioner broke a few days ago, and they fixed it three days later. It was super easy. And the guy was nice. We're having an issue with our plumbing where they've had to come back several times. The plumber had to cut a hole in the wall, so I'm waiting on the Sheetrock guys to come, and they have not called me. But American Home Shield told me several times that they've reached out to the guy.
A couple of weeks ago, whenever this plumbing stuff has gone on in the house, I had to call. The person that I spoke to didn't speak good English, so, I had to ask for a supervisor. And they were, "It'll be a 30 minute to an hour wait if you get a supervisor." I said, "That's fine. I'll wait." The person was nice, but because there was such a language barrier, they were not able to understand what I was trying to communicate. And it wasn't so much I didn't understand their accent, but we were not effectively communicating. And I had to wait for a while to get someone who was able to effectively communicate with me.
There have been some years when we've had nothing come up. But when stuff happens, usually, we always say, "When it rains, it pours." One thing breaks, and everything else breaks on our house at the same time. And when that happens, AHS is very helpful. We've had some large things that needed to be repaired that have been costly. So, AHS has helped us out there, that we were able to pay a bit every month.
Whenever we had a big expense come up, we just paid our $100 service fee, and AHS paid the rest. This air conditioner repair would have been $400 or $500, but because we had the home warranty, we just had to pay $100. And this plumbing situation, we've had to have pipes replaced and leaks fixed, and it has been an ordeal, which would have cost a lot more than the $100 that we've paid. And one time, we had to get an appliance replaced, and AHS gave me a check and said, "Here, go buy a new appliance." They also gave me a check for a water heater. Things like that have been good. It pays for itself.
Thanks Kaylee. We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.
