My air conditioning wasn't working. It would go on, but it wouldn't cool. I called AHS and opened up a request, then they had the Air Max call and schedule an appointment. It was very easy and Air Max was outstanding. Rusty was the technician that came out and he shared with me how to maintain the AC going forward so that I didn't have the same problem happen again.
But the only plumbing contractor that American Home Shield has in my area lied and submitted a false claim to them. This happened on and on, but they wouldn't do anything. They keep wanting to send him out to give a second opinion of himself. What happened was, he never showed up but he said he was here at 2:00 in the afternoon when I was in my office 70 miles away. So I pulled all my cameras and confirmed that he never showed up. But he had diagnosed a leaky copper pipe in the wall of my house. I submitted a claim to repair it and AHS approved it. But I kept pushing back because they want to send out the same guy. He also came out a year ago and said that it was a defective water heater, but my water heater was under warranty.
So I called American Home Shield and asked how could this man diagnose this water leak inside my wall when he never came in my house. And when they got ahold of that contractor, New Tech, they stated that he had virtually diagnosed it. But I work for a technology company and there is no way to virtually diagnose a leaky copper pipe inside somebody's wall. I told AHS time after time after time, and since they couldn't even get somebody else to come out and do a second opinion, they said they would just pay me what they would have paid the contractor to fix the leaky pipe in the wall.
But I told them that I didn't know what was causing the leak or where it was even coming from. So, they said they could pay me and I could hire somebody myself. But this is something that is covered by my American Home Shield. So, if you want them to cover your plumbing in Grayson County, they don't have anybody but this one fraudulent company. Check your options.

The last two times, American Home Shield couldn't do anything for me. The person they sent out couldn't do anything for me. Also, there were some things that AHS didn't explain what they would and wouldn't fix. I would find out the hard way. But the techs explained that they knew they would not fix it for this and that reason. They were honest about it.

I had a good experience. American Home Shield reached out to the previous homeowner, so they had the wrong email address. I talked to a real person about that twice. Because the first time, they still sent it to the wrong email. We got it straightened out and I got the right one. The tech came when he said he would and did what he was supposed to.

There were some outages and a couple of outlets stopped working. I submitted a claim with AHS and it's never difficult with them. They normally text that the contractor will be contacting you within whatever time it is then from that point, whoever they pick communicate to you to set up a date to come. For my recent claim, the tech was professional and he eventually got the job done. He was communicative about the issue. AHS has been really good and responsive. But when I had a claim for the sump pump, which was brand new at the time, the service never came out because we canceled it but they automatically took the $120 from me. Other than that, I told a relative two months ago about AHS and that they’d need to get some kind of service.

The AHS warranty may be a little more expensive, but it's convenient. We filed a claim when there was an odor coming from the refrigerator and a problem with the dancing washing machine. The tech took care of both situations. He found a mouse in the refrigerator. He took the mouse out and put it in the bushes. So that way, he took care of things okay. I've been satisfied with American Home Shield's responses. They get somebody here within a few days and we've had a number of things replaced over the years like the refrigerator, a stove, a water heater and the InSinkErator three times. The techs have come and visited the refrigerator a couple times, too.

There was an issue with the heating element on my cooktop and some of the burners were not working. I did the claim online and it was straightforward. American Home Shield is quick at scheduling service requests and getting things looked at. If it’s not flexible, they’ve been easy with providing refunds. It’s been a very positive experience and I would recommend them.

The techs from Woody's HVAC were on time, knew what they were doing and were respectful. People should use American Home Shield. My only complaint with them is that every year, it's getting more and more expensive. I clicked on stuff that I needed to insure in the house and I picked whatever options came up. I need to see if I can do something to make it a little cheaper.

American Home Shield had an offer for half-price services but it has gone up now. Completing a service request is slow. You call them and a lot of their representatives are in other countries. Sometimes it's a little bit of trouble and other people don't understand what you're saying. The techs have been good but the process takes time. They come out and assess it first and then, they make a decision. The tech came out for the water heater and somehow, the water heater was shipped to Tennessee instead of going to Florida. It's a long process. Then I called up one of the technicians and he got back to me. He said he would call the office. It's lacking in there.

The AC wasn’t cooling and the fan wasn’t blowing. The tech found there was a part of something that wasn't correct and repaired it. American Home Shield is an awesome company to be involved with because when I call them, they come out and fix whatever the problem is that needs fixing. Setting up a claim online is never a problem. I go in the website, check what I need looked at and AHS takes it from there.

I made a claim last April for my refrigerator and after two visits, the contractor didn't come. Every time, the contractor said they came and nobody was home. This is not true because we waited for a long time and I left my work to wait for them and nobody came. The last time, the tech said he would be here in 30 minutes. I was at home and I waited from 4:00 to 6:30. But he didn’t come. I called and AHS scheduled another appointment for June 7th. I made a claim because I need the refrigerator to be fixed. But after 45 days, it has not been fixed yet. I’ve been with AHS for about two years and had a very good experience. But this time, it is bad. This is not AHS. It’s their contractor.
AHS is a very nice company and very helpful. It’s not their fault but I want them to take it and to be interested about the customer. I tried many times to contact the contractor. Maybe because it was very busy so nobody answered. I didn't catch them. So I would prefer it if American Home Shield sends a message or contacts the contractor directly to tell them to take care of the customer. The tech should take it seriously on June 7th to come to my house and fix the refrigerator. AHS raised the price from 39 to 47. But they didn't finish the job on time.

As a new client/customer with AHS as of 5/28/24 for a newly purchased home, we filed a claim for a replacement of the cold water valve connection for our washing machine. We filed the claim on June 4, for Circa Service from Rockledge to come to Merritt Island and no one showed up until June 7, told us yes, you need a new cold water valve but I don't carry parts on my truck and my next available appt is June 13!!!! REALLY! A plumber with no parts to make repairs and his excuse for the delay is that they service 7 home warranty companies and they are very busy.

This company is truly horrible. I would avoid getting caught up with them at all cost. Anytime I have an issue, they send the worse companies out to do repairs, twice now the company they have sent did further damage and after fighting it for 6 months each I was reimbursed. This time my ac went out in Las Vegas during a 112 heat wave and I am waiting for a call back from the 3rd company they assigned me because AHS or myself could not get ahold of them to make an appt. Mind you I have to wait 24 hr before I get a new company. Also I have a one year old child so we are now staying in a hotel until ahs gets it handle. You also can’t leave them because other companies won’t pick you up if you have a claim within 12 month. I tried to avoid any claim this year to leave but the ac is not an option.

I was taking over the house from my parents. It’s an old house and everything is almost original. I like what American Home Shield covers and how much their service fees are. The website forms are also excellent. It's easy to navigate and very intuitive. The repairman who came recently was very professional and went straight to work. The AC was leaking water. Apparently, one of the exits for the excess water was dirty and clogged up. He cleaned that up.

Water was leaking all over the garage. I called American Home Shield and there was no problem at all. They sent Affordable Heating and Air. The tech was very nice. He showed up a little bit before time, and there was no problem with the time that he said he was coming. He has very good customer service. There was only one thing that I would have wanted him to do that he didn't do, and I don't know if he even thought about it. I didn't tell him about it, because at the time, I wasn't really thinking about it. I was just gonna let him do his thing as the expert.
He figured out what the problem was really fast. The hose was bent so the water was coming into the house instead of going down the pipe and outside. So, what he did to fix it was he pulled it out more from inside the wall so that it could come out. The only thing is I would have told him this if I had thought about it. When we went back around and looked at it, it didn't fix the problem. The water still is coming out, but that hose that comes out from some of the external source was bent. So, I got my son to take the pliers and squeeze it to unbend it to make it more open. That was the only thing that I wish that the guy would have done. Other than that, he did a good job. He was very accommodating and nice about cleaning it out with the chlorine and all that repository thing that it goes in.
Overall, I've never had any problems with AHS. I've used them on and off for 20 years. They've always done what they're supposed to do. It'll be great if they can expand the coverages for more things. I got something in the mail saying that if I pay $3 and something in a month, I can have coverage related to the outside main line. I had an outside main line water break and that wasn't covered because they don't do that coverage at all. It will be great if they will expand into that for some people for a certain amount of coverage.

AHS put me in an Evergreen client status. I was on the auto-renewal program and I told them I never agreed to that. Each year, when it's time to renew, I receive an email 60 days before that then I call them to decide whether to renew because they send me the coupon stuff. This time, I didn't get any notice and I had no plan to renew until May 20th when I got my credit card alert telling me they were charging me the monthly installment. So I got on my account, then I called American Home Shield. I talked to three people and all of them told me there would be no fees and the renewal would be canceled. But in the beginning, they told me that was monthly installment because I renewed, then it changed to administrative fees because I canceled, and back to the installment fee, then back and forth.
Also, the first person transferred me to the escalation team and that guy told me that me there was no refund because that was supposed to be the first day of my new contract. But I told him I did not renew it and I did not use the service. He told me that was just how they charge. I went back to see my contract and it said that if canceled within the first 30 days, if there's no service, they will provide full refund. And if I cancel after that and if I use their service, there will fees. So I shouldn't pay. I then asked if I could talk to the manager and they refused to transfer me again. They told me that was their final decision. Last year, I was on the most expensive policy and when they renewed my policy, my premium increased too. I don't want that policy and if I did, I would consider a lower policy. But I don't want to renew anymore because it's so hard to work with them. It's a little frustrating and the fees they charge are so much.
The last time I talked to AHS, I was on the phone with them for 40 minutes just to have somebody to talk to me about the refund. I talked to a couple of people who were kind, but they were in a different department. I could understand them and they could understand me. The local and more American part of the division talking to me were way easier to talk to. One time I asked them to send somebody to patch the ceiling for the drywall. The techs had to cut a hole on my drywall on the ceiling to access the pipe and it was super hard to communicate with the AHS reps. The people at their cashing office are really easy to work with There's one lady, Judy, I called who helped me about patching the ceilings. So AHS can do better.
When I had a claim for the air conditioner, the techs replaces the coil but I had to pay lots of extra on the upfront. Then, they told me that my unit was old and that it could go out in 30 days. So, I ended up paying a lot more to replace the unit. But the claims process with AHS is easy. I would do online, then the contractor would contact me directly. But if it was a small fix, they normally sent somebody least experienced. When my thermostat went off, they sent somebody who was really nice. But when I put the heat on, the cool air would come in. So, I had to call back again. Apparently the person fixed it but didn't wire it correctly. The tech had to come back to fix it.
At another time, the roofer came here as I had three things needed to be patched. At first, they were telling me to replace whole roof. I knew the roof is old and that eventually it needs to be replaced. But I wanted the leaks itself to be fixed. They told me that the work would cost $3,000-something. But without a plan, I could find somebody cheaper to do that. If I spend over $3,000 to patch the roof, then a few months later I might have to replace the whole thing and spend another $12,000. So it is not worth it.
The idea of the home warranty is very good and it's great for little stuff. But not the bigger ones. When the techs come out for those, the first thing they tell you is to replace the whole thing and they're so quick to tell me that. One time, I had a water heater broke down and AHS sent a contractor in. The water heater would cost about $2,500 to replace but I found somebody to do that for $1,500. In the end, I just did a cashout and they gave me $400 for the water heater. I told them I couldn't even buy a water heater with that price but I still decided to do that because it was cheaper than using their contractor. The same thing happened to the HVAC system. In the end, I just replaced the whole thing.
The AHS website to access my account is fine but I couldn't see the details of my claims. If they have the contractor do assessment, they don't have the contractor's invoice to them and they only have a line saying what the contractor found. But I don't know what exactly they will do. So that part is not upfront, and that should be disclosed to the customer. Also, there's a history of repair, but it's just basic information. It's fine if there's nothing going on. But if I really need the information, I call the customer service and they don't give me information either. They keep telling me they don't have access.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss this further. Sincerely, Mariah

So disappointed with AHS customer service. I have been a platinum member for 3 years, my ac broke 6/2/2024, which we called and opened a work order. I informed the person on the phone who is located in the Philippines that I have someone with health concerns in the house. They informed me that the order could take up 24 hrs to be assigned. I informed them that I reside in Florida and it's 100 degrees. I called back to see if there was anyway to expedite the service call and again the call is placed outside of the United States and to the Philippines. This time the individual stated that she would send an email to help expedite to the AC company. I also was able to call the AC company and left message.
On June 3rd, the tech for Air America showed to my home at 2 pm eastern time. He stated that he could not fix the ac as the ac needed a new motor. He explained that he needed to put in a work order and submit to American Home Shield Warranty to get approval. I asked how long will this take. I called Joelle at American Home Shield Warranty to discuss what transpired with the tech from Air America. Joelle told me that “it's a process and it can take up to 24 hrs to 2 weeks for approval to happen”. I informed her that I have a person in my home that has health issues and can not be in the heat and requested how the process can be expedited. She stated for me to call back in a couple hours.
I called the owner of Air America who stated he submitted the diagnoses and is waiting for approval. I called Karen who is located in the Philippines at 9:00 pm eastern time who informed this writer that nothing was received from Air America, the AC contractor with AHS. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to Ellie who stated that Air America has not turn in any paperwork or called for approval and that it could take up to two weeks for them to get approval for the work to get done as this is the process of the company. I informed her that I have a person that resides in the home that has health concerns and I have had to put them in a hotel due to not having a working ac. Ellie stated that we do not need to have a working AC. She proceeded to argue with me and agitate the situation instead of diffuse an already stressful situation.
I WANT MY AC WORKING. I WANT APPROVAL, it’s been 48 hours without the ac working. This is unacceptable. Tomorrow, 6/4 will be 36 hrs without ac. I have been paying my premiums on time and AHS has access to my bank account and is able to pull funds out, like for today and no service was fully completed. There needs to be an easier way for this process to be completed, such as with the technology of today the technician should be able to get approval on the spot at my home to complete the job. There should not be this 24 hour to 2 week approval period for something like this. Also why is American Home Shield outsourced outside of the USA???? Bring it back to the USA.

For three years, I've paid and called every year, only to be told that nothing would be covered. Yesterday, I spent $886 on plumbing issues: air in the pipes, flushing a water heater that smelled like rotten eggs, and fixing a consistently leaking kitchen faucet—all things you'd expect to be covered. This is a scam. Save yourself the $100 monthly fee and the $125 they charge to send someone out. Put that money into a savings account instead of wasting it on this horrible service. At least you'll earn some interest.

MS Plumbing was bad. I've always asked American Home Shield for a different plumbing service and they never gave me that option. They've always said, "Well, this is the only one." The guy has come out and my tenants that live there would be like, "He's not doing what he's supposed to do." AHS has notes of me complaining and asking, "Can you please send a different company out there?" They finally did, but that was because the guy never fixed the problem. AHS sent another company out there and they were like, "Well, if they find the same issue, you have to pay the fee." But the guy came out there and he was like, "I don't see that issue that he was talking about." So, I didn't end up paying anything.
Overall, AHS doesn't listen. I have to go with them because they're the only home warranty service that supports that house in that area. Also, their customer service was very dry. At the beginning, they could never get my name associated with my house. It would be somebody else's name. I complained about that for a whole year. And eventually, one day, I talked to somebody and they fixed the problem.

One time, American Home Shield was number one but I've had problems with them where they don't wanna replace things. I've had a little problem with them as far as air condition, but they ended up fixing it. But I know some of my friends who I introduced to AHS, and they had to replace an air condition, but AHS didn't wanna pay for the whole thing. Also, AHS went up on their price so much to where they almost price people out. I pay at least $100 for the deductible when the people come out. Also, some contractors may feel that AHS doesn't want to replace certain things. They just want to continue to keep fixing, even though the equipment needed to be replaced. But those are the only gripes I have.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

There are some things American Home Shield is good at. But the people who work at the call center don't understand or maybe they don't want to listen to what I say, and they just do their own stuff. So, the communication is a little harder. With my refrigerator, I kept telling them, "You need to send this particular company who was there last time when they repaired." But they kept sending another company who couldn't do all the stuff. They just pushed that one company. I don't know why. It would be nice if they sent the appropriate person so I would not have to go to many trips and they would not have to pay everybody.
I would talk about the washer or the refrigerator, they would send the same company. Maybe they're cheap or they're AHS' favorite. And the guy kept coming and changing parts for no reason just to find he wasn't diagnosing it, but just tried to change this part and that part and see if it worked. They're going to bring another part to change it. So hopefully, it would work. But this company was a little better than the other company. I guess AHS has a shortage of vendors. Also, we complained to AHS about our deductible. We just paid it and they promised that they would refund our deductible, but they never did. Other than that, they are a lot better than other companies.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

American Home Shield sent Universal 1 but they never fixed the stove. They kept coming out and they were telling AHS that they fixed it, but they didn't. The oven wasn't working. I told the tech, "I think it's the board." He kept saying, "It's igniter. It's igniter." He changed the igniter. Then the igniter went out again. Then it stopped working. I called him back and told him, "It's not the igniter. I'm trying to tell you, I think it's the board." So he said he was gonna order the board, but they never ordered it. Then they ordered this other part, and they never came and put it on. So when the part came, it just sat there for almost a year,.
I called AHS back. They sent somebody else out. I was gonna cancel my service with AHS and go with somebody else. They raised my monthly plan. So, I said I was going to cancel it. The lady I was talking to said, "Don't do that. I'm gonna put it back where it was at. And then I'm gonna send somebody else out. And you don't have to pay the $100." So they came out. He put another igniter on and he put that part on that the last company sent. Then I said, "It's the board." So he said, "All right." He went back and he was gonna order the board. He called me back and said AHS said they're not paying for the board because it's not covered. I'm just gonna go ahead and buy me a stove. I would recommend American Home Shield, but I would tell people to be careful. They fix certain things. Make sure to read the fine print before you even sign something to make sure they cover everything.

I had issues with my dishwasher, my dryer, and my washing machine. My dryer wouldn't even turn on. My washing machine wasn't washing, getting stuff really clean at all. It was barely spinning, and it was making an awful grinding noise. And on my dishwasher, the baskets were rusting and breaking off and it wasn't holding anything in place. Stuff was flying all over the place and not getting washed. I submitted the claim online through American Home Shield's website. It was fairly easy. They usually send out all the information through text or email. So, I knew exactly who was coming out and had their contact information.
Everything was great with the contractor. They did a good job. They fixed the dryer, which was my biggest concern. Then they had replaced the washing machine and dishwasher. AHS will give you either the equivalent of which is the replacement piece, which those pieces are really old. So, it was probably a lower-end unit that we went ahead and took the cash value and Lowe’s gift cards so we could match our other units that we have. We had a certain fridge, and we wanted the dishwasher essentially to match that version. So, I took the gift cards for that and just upgraded from the one that they were gonna give me and install into the one we wanted.

It is very difficult to reach out to American Home Shield because 99% of the time I reach out to somebody overseas, which is a big problem for me. Our American jobs should be here in the country rather than sourced out. That is a big downfall for me. AHS sent a contractor for the initial yearly cleanup. Something was wrong with my AC. They fixed it. The AC has been failing right after we got our initial maintenance on it. The recent contractor came out for my yearly tune-up for my AC. It went okay. They didn't clean my coils, which I thought was something they were supposed to do. And they told us, "Your coils have dust on them." I didn't say anything but I thought that was something that was supposed to be done. Other than that, they were thorough. The guy was polite.
We had a faucet issue that came up. But when we filed a claim, it was $125 for it. And we bought the faucet ourselves for a lot cheaper. And it was like, what's the point? Having somebody come out, look at it, and replace it for $125 when we could replace it ourselves for less than that. So we're starting to weigh the pros and cons.

We panicked. But American Home Shield told us who would come out. I've used AHS' website, but I would follow up with a call because it took too long for anybody to get back to me. We called May Heating and Air directly and they came out. They've been out three times in the past year. We had a water leak, they came out, but we forgot to mention there was an oil smell. They told us that they did some test and there was a gas leak in the line. So, they addressed it. The turnaround time was within a couple of days.
However, everybody that I talked to at AHS doesn't know what they were saying. We had an issue with a toilet that was leaking. We've called them for air. We also called them for something that was going on with the dishwasher. But we have liked their platinum plan and somebody would tell me, "That's not covered." And I know at least once somebody was sent out here and they were told that we would have to pay them and it turns out we weren't because it was covered under the policy.
Customer service is customer service, but it's not always an immediate response and everybody doesn't know the different policies very well. And I didn't like having to pull out a copy of it and tell them why they were wrong and that they wasted a day or two. The customer service and one side knowing what the other side is doing, it could be improved.

Some of our experiences with American Home Shield have been good and some of them have been bad. It depends on which contractor they use. I've had some good ones and some not-so-good ones. So, it's been mixed. The most recent claim experience wasn't so great. The contractor took some time to come out. They didn't offer to fix the problem, but they offered some deal to a replacement where I would have to buy something, put up some money, and get a new heater, which I didn't really want to do. So, I wasn't too happy. I thought they would just fix it. Instead, they wanted to replace it, but not for free. It was more than I wanted to pay. I just didn't do anything further.
I had other claims where something wasn't working like my water pump from the well and they sent some group that replaced it entirely and I didn't have to pay anything. They did my refrigerator, which I thought worked out okay. They just told me to contact this contractor and I got a new refrigerator delivered. They have different contractors, some of which seem like fly-by-night. They're just mom-and-pop operations and they don't always answer the phone. American Home Shield doesn't do the work. They just arrange for somebody to do it. They should try to get the best people they could in my area who are capable and well-staffed and answers the phone and come out quickly.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

We have been with American Home Shield for over 20 years and for the most part are very satisfied. Our cost per month went from 130 last year to 206 which was shocking! We just advised our son to sign up for the Shieldplatinum plan as well and his cost is about $60 a month. We found out this week that our package hvac unit needs to be replaced and our out of pocket cost is over 4000. I called American Home Shield and rep went through the breakdown of this cost but could not tell me how much American home shield is covering. American Home Shield says on their site that “you could pay thousands for a single repair or replacement -or a fraction of the cost for an entire year of coverage with American Home Shield“ but I am having to pay thousands of dollars for a new HVAC system with a AHS warranty.

I initially got the coverage when I first bought the house a couple of years ago. We only had one main issue the first year and after having that issue, it showed that the coverage was worth it. The refrigerator was having a major mechanical problem. It froze up and the ice machine went out. The company ordered the wrong ice machine and we went back and forth with it. But it wasn't their fault because it was an older refrigerator. By the time I got that diagnosis, they figured that the other issue it was having, it needed another refrigerator. So, American Home Shield reimbursed us to get another refrigerator. What we paid for the warranty paid off. Overall, the service was good so, we just kept the policy.
The repair guy for the dryer was great, very well put together and professional. I described the issue to him and he went into the garage and looked at it for about two minutes. He said he already knew what it was and just happened to have the part on the truck because some of them are universal. He diagnosed the issue immediately and fixed it, and it has been working fine ever since. The protection covers all the appliances. I could go online and submit a claim and it's a very smooth process. The reps always initially give you upfront the contact info of the contractor. The first contractor was a little bit busy, so they didn't get to us right at the 24-hour mark. But the next day, I called them. You can easily get ahold of the contractor. So, everything is very straightforward and easy to initiate. AHS is worth the coverage and the peace of mind. All the contractors who came out were good and very honest.

Submitting a claim is easy with AHS. I go online, fill out their form, then respond within 24 hours once I do my claim. But I don't like their communication. They don't have good back and forth with follow-up. A lot of times, their words that they're telling me on the phone does not equal what I'm seeing online. I would keep going online and sometimes it'd say my claim was resolved. So, I'd have to call them and tell them that it wasn't resolved or the parts were ordered. Then I'd have to call the company that has got the service to follow up on that.
I had one issue where I ordered a hood for my stove and AHS kept saying it had been delivered. But I didn't have it in. My husband's retired and he was right there when they said they attempted the delivery. But they charged me again to have that delivery come back out. Plus, I got charged $135 for the techs to put it back on the shelf. Then that took six months.
I would also tell others that going in to AHS, they should make sure that everything is covered per their contract. When our air conditioner went out last summer, even though it was part of our plan, they refused to fix it because they said the unit was too big. But that was already here when I got the warranty. The techs were going to put in a smaller unit but AHS wouldn't cover any of it. So we were without an air conditioner for quite a long time and we had to find our own service that we could afford to get it replaced.

I could submit claims with American Home Shield online. The contractors are good. My recent claim went well. The repair performed good. However, AHS has a few contractors in the area. So, they respond very slow. If AHS could get more contractors and for the contractors to respond faster, it would be awesome. Because for repairs that are urgent, they usually call after two or three weeks, which is unacceptable.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the difficulties you've experiencing and would like to discuss this more. Feel free to email me at consumeraffairs@ahs.com.

Advance Home Services/American Home Shield. Las Vegas, Nevada May 2024. Dishonest, unethical, Please Be Aware. Advance Home Services contractor was selected to service my kitchen stoppage through warranty American Home Shield. Advance Home Services came to my property in Las Vegas, Nevada May 21, 2024 to diagnose the stoppage. The tech (Dustin) immediately had an attitude and seems bias toward me the customer.
He immediately said “you don’t have a Clean Out”, "I don’t even know what you are talking about." It is a separate pipe under sink so lazy plumbers do not have to remove the P-Trap pipe to snake the clog. He said doubts American Home Shield will approve to fix the clog, and my claim was denied. Advance Home Services closed my request, sent an email to American Home Shield (warranty) stating the customer need to install a Clean Out (AHS does not approve) and Advance Home will charge to install it.
Contacted American Home Shield, but all you get is thick accent speaking that do not understand what you are saying. They prevent from giving you a REAL supervisor if they even exist. However, if the service contractor has a bias opinion, then why would AHS proceed with their decision to deny coverage, when AHS clearly states that item is covered in their contract.
American Home Shield does not want to pay for labor on a job if they can avoid. They accept the technician’s LIES (ignoring their own contract) and passing the job onto the Service Contractor (Advance Home Services) at the additional expense of the customer. I pay $1,068 a year to avoid high costs for household services, but the warranty company ¬(American Home Shield) tries everything they can to avoid fixing the problem by breaching their own contract.

I had a bad experience in recent months with American Home Shield. They didn't get the issue resolved. It was a 2 year-old hot water tank that blew up and they assigned it to a company that never came out. They simply had me send pictures. When I sent the pictures, they claimed that there was a problem with the water heater that was not covered under my policy. I had them send out another company and these other people said that I needed a new hot water heater but did not add on all of the extra things that the other company was trying to add on. American Home Shield said they had to go with the first people since the second company said that it needed to be replaced as well as the first company. I didn't wanna deal with those people because they were padding the bill. I went online and found a couple of other remarks about them that they had done the same thing.
I had no hot water for over a month and was tired of fighting with American Home Shield. They were nasty when I tried to explain why I didn't wanna use the first company so I went ahead and paid for it. They issued me a refund for it, but it was not nearly what it costs. They gave me 300-something dollars but the cost came to over $1,000. I was with American Home Shield for many years in Maryland. I've since then moved to Florida and I'm still a member. But I didn't appreciate the way that they treated me in that situation. They were good until up to that. I've referred other people to them. The first person who came out did a breaker change but that didn't fix the problem. The second person who came out fixed it. So, Jets Electrical is okay with me. They did a good job. It's my latest problem with American Home Shield that's driving me crazy. They have been good as far as you call them. They set up an appointment and someone comes out. Two service people have come out. The call was on April 8th and it took five days for a technician to come out and then two weeks to wait for the part. AHS sent out a second service person and he said he couldn't get the dishwasher to work. They said that the part was obsolete according to American Home Shield. They've ordered the part. And now I'm waiting another week to get the part for them to put in.
This has been my first, real big problem with American Home Shield and it's not going well because they're giving me the runaround. They're pushing me off. It's going on for almost two months now. This is making me not wanna re-up with AHS. It's just been one after the other of people who say they’re sorry this is happening but don't help. Most of the time, you need things fixed, not replaced. But now, when something looks like where it might be replaced, you'll get the runaround.

American Home Shield did not relay the information that I had relayed to the contractor so the plumber came out unprepared. Even though I paid for my service fee, he told me there was nothing he could do because it was an intermittent problem. We duplicated the problem and it happened again. But he said it wasn't happening frequently so he didn't know what was causing it. I called the manufacturer of the product in my house and they told me what it was.
I only used American Home Shield twice, once for my garage door and the plumber, and my problem was not fixed both times. When the tech came out for the garage door, he replaced the spring in the door but I called him back and asked why it was making such a loud noise. My garage doors never sounded that loud before. He told me to give it a couple of weeks and it would get better. I called back in a couple of weeks but he didn't return my call. I called American Home Shield and the rep told me they were gonna contact the company. The AHS rep had also told me they were gonna contact the plumbing company and no one ever got back to me. We filed a claim over the phone and the process was easy. The tech came out, pulled the circuit board out, went and got a new one, then came back about a week later and installed it. I was comfortable with him coming over and my experience with that stove claim was great.
But my experience with the house and with the roof claim that we had, not so much. They identified the contractor, then I called the contractor and scheduled a time. When the person came out, he identified the issue and the service was great. But the policy provided a $1,000 max and I'd have to pay for everything else. When the lady called to tell me about it, she cited sections out of the policy. But I wanted a written estimate to see the cost for each work that the contractor had to do. She told me that the contractor had been sent to me but I don't have a number for them. I am still tracking that down and apparently, it's incumbent on me to find out based on the name. But I would expect that Home Shield would provide that written estimate instead of letting me track down the contractor.

We've had a lot of different engagements with American Home Shield throughout the year. They are responsive but don't cover a lot. We're not going to re-up. The first thing was our septic, and other than removing the septic material, they didn't fix the repairs that were needed. But that's in the contract. We paid 650 and $125 each time they came out. American Home Shield sent somebody out about seven times for different things. There's no incentive to find the main issue. I was ultimately satisfied that we gave them over $1,000, and they made one repair. We would have preferred a replacement but they did their job. The air conditioning doesn't have a gap in it anymore but it took four air conditioner guys to figure that out. They weren't that interested in helping us find the problem.
Each time they came, no one went under the crawl space until a separate guy who was not related to American Home Shield came out. He cleaned the vents. He took his cellphone and took a picture of this huge 23-inch gap in our metal duct. I would have expected the air con guys that American Home Shield sent out to figure that out. But once we told them that was the issue, they sent a guy out and repaired it. The person that repaired it said even though it was repaired, to check what caused the coolant to leak and create a huge gap, and if the original issue was still there, it would potentially happen again. We had to wait till the temperature rose until over 70 degrees to run the air conditioning. That was when Precision came out and to make sure that it was no longer leaking. The guy flushed something and told me it looked good and that the repair was solid. It took all 15 minutes for the Precision guy to do that.

American Home Shield is the home warranty you need on all your appliances. If something goes wrong, they provide a technical person. They make me feel secure that if something breaks down, I'm still gonna be able to find help as soon as possible. For the quality of service, the price is right. It was a simple process online. There were very clear instructions on what I had to do and they let me know about the $100 fee that they would collect. When I needed to call again, the process was simple as well.

My last claim was for my fridge. For the most part, American Home Shield fixed it. I had an issue because it seemed as if the person who came to diagnose my fridge and who came to fix the fridge was not the same person. And whenever AHS farmed it out, they normally did it out with the same people. For example, it went to A&E, which is like Sears Repair. The person that came to diagnose it said that he ordered the parts. When the parts came, they would come back and fix it. When I asked them to come fix something on the fridge sometime last year, that was what happened as well.
When I got the appointment for the person to come back and install the new ice maker, I was given a window in the afternoon and, all of a sudden, I saw somebody show up at my door much earlier than that. I though, "Okay. I'm not expecting you at this time, but okay. No problem." But it was a different person. He came with an A&E van, so I knew that he came from A&E. While he fixed, he told my son that there was something that he needed to clean out in the back, maybe some type of filter, and we had to pay $80 for that.
I was, "I already paid American Home Shield, that everything is supposed to be covered." He said, "No, it doesn't cover cleaning." I said, "That's very odd because this is not a cleaning that I can do." So, I asked, "Is this something that I'm gonna be billed by American Home Shield?" He said, no, I would pay him directly. I said, "Okay. What form of payment?" He said cash or a check. I did it as a check because just in case. Because again, this didn't sit well. This is the first time using AHS that I would have a contractor ask me for a payment like that.
I made the payment for $80 and, instead of it being to AHS or to A&E, it was to a different vendor. So, I said that I would follow up with AHS, but I didn't until I needed to put another claim in. I asked, "Is this normal?" At first, the person I spoke to said, "They're not supposed to clean your appliance." I said, "No, no, no. This is not cleaning like the inside of my fridge was dirty. This was on the outside where he had to remove a plate on the outside and get into the inner bowels of the fridge." The person that I spoke to at AHS said, "No, they were not supposed to have charged you extra for that." They said that they would gonna put in an investigation as to find out what happened. After I got off the phone with American Home Shield, I looked at my security camera. That was when I saw that the person did come from A&E Sears Repair.
The appliance works okay. One of the things was the door, every now and then, still wouldn't close properly. That was why I called back two weeks ago for someone to come out. Other than that, the ice maker works well, which was the primary complaint. The only thing that didn't sit well with me was this person that I'm not thoroughly convinced was supposed to be the person to come. Because right before he left, he said, "Just in case A&E calls you and tells you that they're sending someone over, just tell them it's okay, it's been fixed already." That sounded very off to me.

My claims experience for the shower started off rocky but ended up good. One of the service providers did some work that made the issue worse on my showerhead. The tech left the water in a hot status somehow so, my handles were hot to touch. My father-in-law was able to turn off whatever he turned on on the inside of the showerhead and it was a little bit of a struggle trying to get someone to fix the issue that the original contractor caused. AHS's escalation process is a little bit lengthy and I had to call a few times. I couldn't speak to the people that handle escalation so, they had to send a message to go out for them to get back to me. But they refunded me my service fee as well as sent someone else out to fix it. Also, my past experiences with AHS weren't rocky like this one.

Sometimes the way the provider would come and write up the ticket would determine whether I have coverage or not. I've always assumed that the contractors that contract with American Home Shield maybe aren't the best in their field. So, they do this to generate income. And I've always assumed that they get a fixed rate from AHS. That's why they're always eager to say, "We can fix it today for X 'cause you don't have coverage."
The good of it is I pay my $100 monthly statement and pay my $100 co-pay, and most of the time, it's straightforward. They complete the repair for me and I go about my business. When things start to get more pricey, I get more and more varying opinions to determine coverage. There have been many good times when contractors came out. Like the call for the microwave and they came out and said, "Yes, it's broken, you're covered. We'll order the part, call you back when it comes in." They did, came right out, and fixed it.
I pay extra for my pool pipes. The reason I have the home warranty is because the home is old. With wear and tear, the pool pipes sprung a small leak. AHS tried to say it was caused by chemical damage. I was, "They're pool pipes. So, it's chlorine water. That's the chemical, I guess." That wasn't fair. But they couldn't wait to write up an estimate, $5,400 if I'd like him to take care of it right away. That's the bad thing about the warranty.

The pilot in my water heater wouldn't light and I couldn't get it to light and when I tried, the console gave me an error code. I submitted a claim using an online form and it was pretty easy. It was surprisingly straightforward and they got back to me within a matter of hours. Dockside Plumbing came out and they were very friendly and professional. They diagnosed the problem quickly and they then proceeded to tell me there was nothing they could do about it. They did not have the parts in stock and it was in the morning heading into the weekend. The best I could do was call around the various warehouses and try to obtain the parts. I called various suppliers and the closest part was in a warehouse in Los Angeles and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. The quickest they could do was their overnight shipping but heading into a weekend, the overnight shipping would have gotten here on Tuesday morning.

The fan wasn't working on my refrigerator and it was not cooling on either side. I called AHS and it wasn't expeditious to make a phone call. Then, the contractors they assigned have been to my house the first time I ever made a claim and they were not professional at all. Parts did not get ordered. This time, I had to call multiple times to get someone out and they changed the contractor who was coming out to fix it from Amtec even if I specifically asked that AHS never send them back out to my home because of the initial unprofessionalism that I experienced. However, they were sent back out this last time that I called.
The same issue keeps happening and I'm quite perturbed by it because I was told by Amtec that if the parts can be ordered and the refrigerator can be fixed multiple times for the same reason, American Home Shield won't give me a new refrigerator. When I talked to American Home Shield, they told me that Amtec would have to say that the refrigerator is not repairable and order a new one. This back and forth and the techs not saying that I need a new refrigerator is only causing me to have to pay every time they come back to fix the same issue. That's generating money for them but this insurance coverage is not benefiting me. I also noticed last month that my insurance payment went up again. Even my service fee has gone up from when I initially signed the contract. At this point, I'm very dissatisfied. Once again, water is coming from underneath my refrigerator, so it's freezing up. The first time that I called American Home Shield, it was doing that as well.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

We needed to get a new dishwasher because ours quit working. The first tech that AHS sent out told me they couldn't install my new dishwasher because my valve looked too old. So, I had to pay for a plumber and I had to get it done within less than a week. It cost a couple hundred bucks for the plumber to come and replace the pipe. AHS then sent a second contractor and they kept telling me that they couldn't install my new dishwasher because they couldn't get the old one out unless the legs were cut off. They were idiots. The new one was of the same dimensions and height as the old one. So, I asked how they were going to install the new one. They said they could just shorten and screw it. Also, they couldn't wait for my husband to come home to get the old dishwasher out and cut its legs off. So, that was another week by the time I got somebody to come back out here. But in the meantime, my husband came home and within five minutes, he got them to screw and shorten. So, he didn't have to cut anything off.
When I called again for them to come out, the day that they told me that they would come out was not the day that they showed up. I had to call and find out that they wanted to come on another day. I told them that I couldn't keep missing work and they said that they would see if they could make an exception and do it on one of those days when my work was more flexible. So, I had to wait. Then finally I got an exception for somebody to come and to get it done. By the time it all got done, it was after Easter where I had 25 people at my house, which would have been great to have a dishwasher during that time. So, that was a lot of fun.
Otherwise, I haven't had any other problems with AHS. The technicians have always been fine. The guy that came to install it at the very end happened to be the same guy that came and told me that there was something wrong with my dishwasher. He was the one who put in the order saying the motherboard was fried, and told me not to use it. He said to leave the breaker off because it was fried and I didn't want my house to catch on fire. So, he knew what he was doing. It was just everybody in between that made things extremely difficult.
And then I was told to call GE. But when I called the number they gave me for somebody to come and say what had been done so they could come back out, they had no idea who I was. So, I had to go back to the warranty company. And when I called AHS and got through to somebody, they said they couldn't even access anything because they were having problems with the website. That was on a Friday and they said I had to to call on Monday. Despite all of that, I've got a dishwasher and it works great.

They refused to service the property. They said they didn't have the proper clean-out area for them and they have to call someone else, but they never did. They never fixed the issue, and they left me hanging. I got my own plumber out to get it resolved. I also called American Home Shield and complained. American Home Shield is recommended when you have a home to have some sort of coverage. I've had it for at least six months, and it's better to have it than not to have it. However, the customer service is horrible and the way they handle stuff can be horrible, but people don't have too many options nowadays. They're stuck.

I've been with American Home Shield for about 10 years, so I know them inside and out. Sometimes I get a good contractor, but sometimes I don't. A lot of times the contractors will come out and they'll purposefully diagnose something that they know is not covered. They'll say, "Well, this is not covered," and then they want me to pay a bunch of money. When my garage door wasn't opening or closing, the garage door company said that my garage opener needed to be replaced. They wanted to charge me $1,200 to replace it, which was too much. I showed the guy online where I could get a garage door opener for $500. I didn't like him. He was trying to rip me off, so I just told him to leave.
I would tell people they can work with American Home Shield, but they gotta deal with them mostly online. I try to submit claims online because I can't get anybody to answer the phone at American Home Shield. I'd be on hold for an hour messing around with them. Plus, a lot of these companies have their call centers in other countries and it makes it very difficult to explain to the person what the problem is. I can hear chickens in the background too.

I've got the top coverage with American Home Shield, and it's great. I've always made phone calls for my service requests, and I am gonna have to call them about my oven and microwave. Recently, I did a request for my air conditioning unit, and it went great. We had to have a guy come back from the same vendor that American Home Shield requested three times and the last time. So I paid $100 twice, then the third time American Home Shield waived it because it was a recall. The tech was awesome. He was timely, communicative and very personable. He described everything extremely thoroughly with what was going on with the unit, and he was happy to show us exactly the diagnosis and what he was doing. He was a very professional, knowledgeable contractor.
My only concern is American Home Shield's customer service is very black and white, and after Covid, they started collecting the $100 before they'd even schedule anybody. Before that, they would have the vendor come to me first, then I would pay for the services. I understand the $100 upfront fee. People have to have some level of commitment. However, being a longer-term customer, it seems odd that I would have to pay them the $100 before somebody comes to my house.

There were some sections that were difficult for me to explain exactly what the challenge was and I felt like I had to diagnose the challenge. I'm not an expert in plumbing.
I did not enjoy my experience with the contractor as well. On April 15th 2024 a technician sent by American Home Shield came to see our broken washing machine and said that he had put in an order for a water pump. The technician sent us a picture of the order before he left on the 15th. He said that the part should be delivered in about 10 days. At about day 11 of waiting we called AHS and they said that they got in touch with Sears and that the piece was ordered.
On May 3rd, 15 days after the technician made the order we requested to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor said that if the part had not arrived 20 days after the part was ordered a process to replace the washing machine would start. We waited 5 more days and the part did not arrive. Again we called AHS requesting for the process to replace the washing machine to start. They said the next step would be to get a diagnosis from Sears. The day after we received a text message saying that the part had been ordered!!!
Now over 25 days later, having to go to the laundry, spending time in traffic since it is not close to home, and spending money repeatedly because American Home Shield has not been able to deliver. We called back again to let them know that it is not fair that they made us wait for so long, having to go to the laundry because of their ineffectiveness in getting us the part, and their incompetence in dealing with Sears (who is another failure).
We told them that what we now expect from them is to do good on their word, and start the process to replace the washing machine. They said that Sears had now made an order for the part on the 18th of May, and that "THE PROCESS WOULD NEED TO START AGAIN." It is now the 23rd of May and we are still waiting for the part. We have been loyal customers and we have always paid monthly on time. This is truly an example on how to not treat your customers. AHS has failed to follow their own guidelines, making us wait even more, having us drive to the dry cleaners and spend more money because of their irresponsibility.

Every time I call for a claim, they're great people to work with. Recently, Susina Electric came out and worked on my dryer that wasn't drying my clothes well. He changed the heating element and it's been working great since. Also, I had a refrigerator claim and the tech said the flap was broken. I asked what are the chances of AHS replacing the refrigerator and he said AHS was just gonna replace the whole door, which was fine as long as they replace the door and get the ice maker working again. A couple of days later, I got an email saying AHS was gonna replace my whole refrigerator and all it cost me was $75 for the man to come out and look at it. AHS is worth every penny. They let you choose what you're willing to pay and what works best for you.

I called American Home Shield, scheduled an appointment for our AC, and they appointed a technician to the area. When he went to the house, I was at work, but my son was there and he said that the technician did a fantastic job. There was something that was old and the technician was able to change it and fix it. It's now working. Overall, American Home Shield has been very good, and I would let people know that it's a company to rely upon. They have good, professional and knowledgeable teams. People can resort to them for assistance. I don't think there's anything that when you rely on American Home Shield your problem will not be solved automatically. Sometimes I feel because we're going through a warranty place, that we're low priority to get service. But it's worth it to have a homeowners’ coverage. Shop around until you find something you're comfortable with. The people called me to schedule to come out. I was able to fix it. And I called to cancel the same. It was within 20 minutes after I made the call. And American Home Shield said they would take care of it and cancel the call. But AHS still charged me for the visit, saying that the contractor came out and fixed it. I spoke with them. They said, “I can appreciate you saying they didn't come out and visit, but I have to talk to them.” And it was a Friday before the weekend. It took them five days to get ahold of them to say, “We didn't come out there.” And they refunded me. It was a little pain. But they fixed it in the end.
I don't like that we pay so much per month and per visit, and depending on the event or the thing that breaks down where we could pay more, like if it's the AC unit. The contractors are hit or miss. Some of them are good, while some of them just do the bare minimum to put a ticket in. I would like more consistency and quality of person. We use AHS often. Some of them come out, and it's great. They would fix it within 30 minutes. One time, our dryer heating coil broke. They came out. It took them four days to come out. They looked at it. They said, “I can't do this now. I have to order parts.” So, they ordered parts. Took another week. So, it was a week and a half that I couldn't wash clothes. When you have a teenaged daughter, that’s tough. Knowing that you are going to be working on what type of appliance I have, have the basic stuff on-hand might help to prevent delayed being fixed.

AHS' website was user-friendly. All the information was there. All I had to do was just answer the question. It happened quickly. I received the email, telling me who the contractor would be and the timeframe they would have to get in touch with. AHS could not find the parts to replace it. So, they replaced it. They called and told me it would be delivered. And once it got delivered, 24 hours after that, they could set me a date of the installation.

I dislike the amount of coverage that American Home Shield provides. I'm looking for another provider because, over the years, it seemed like the rate and the premium increased, and the services decreased. I don't utilize the service too often but when I do, there are always limitations on what they will cover, under what's covered, and then certain things that aren't covered other organizations do cover.
There was a leak and the techs couldn't really trace where it was from but deemed it as cosmetic after I had already had some other work done like the caulking. They denied the service as a result of saying that it was cosmetic or according to normal wear and tear maintenance. So, I was a little disappointed in that. I have been dealing with them for other issues for years and it seems like the services are decreasing and my rate has gone up over the last several years as well.
The latest guy that came out was good. He had dealt with the issue with my sink before and I was glad that they did bring that company back out because they do quality work. I have had nightmares in the past. It was never resolved when my sump pump had died and caused damage to my basement. American Home Shield didn't reply quick enough. So, I had to get a contractor on my own. And a part of what they told me was, if you get someone, they would consider reimbursement. They never reimbursed me. It was for like $1,500 of an expense. I was very disappointed with that. I continued to remain a customer and stayed with them, but those are things that would tend to cause service to be ended.

There was some hardware in the filter that was not working properly. SunBright came out and said that the item in question was not covered. So, they left and didn't fix anything. They were claiming that American Home Shield said that the hardware was part of regular maintenance and it should be replaced at my cost every X number of years. I had American Home Shield 15 years ago at another house, and I had a good experience with them. My timing was good and it was on the heels of a class action lawsuit that American Home Shield had lost. They were very quick to perform the details of the contract. I had issues with my air conditioner and with my water heater, and they covered those things. I felt like I got what I paid for at the time. 10 years into being in this house, even though it's expensive, it made sense to go with them again at the very least because with the really big-ticket items that wind up being a giant hit to the wall at one time, they are contractually obligated to cover for X dollar amount. It's just in a nutshell, when push comes to shove, it doesn't feel to me like they wind up covering what they say they're going to cover, even if they are transparent about what they claim they're going to cover.

At Bay Appliances wasn’t any good. I have a wall oven and it’s probably the original one when this house was built and it's overheating. There are two ovens but we use mainly the top one. The guy from Bay Appliances told me the parts were not being made anymore so they would put me in to get a replacement. And then, I never heard anything. The next thing I know, they sent me an email telling me that they're gonna rebuild the part, but we would be without an oven for 10 to 14 weeks. And I said that was not appropriate. But they never came. American Home Shield tried to buy me out for $300 and then nothing ever happened. The guy who came gave me his phone number and I texted him but he never contacted me back.
AHS sent somebody else out after I complained. It was another guy from a different company because I told them I didn't want the same company. He came out and did a test. We had to give him batteries because his batteries weren't working and said it was only 10% over overheating. He said that was normal, but I don't buy that because the food overcooks. It cooks quickly and we gotta watch it. Even baking a cake, it'll burn because it's too hot. He said he was gonna submit the information but I still haven't heard anything and I'm getting all these messages from American Home Shield asking me if it was complete. It wasn't.
AHS was fine before and then, they raised my price but they didn't even tell me that they were gonna raise it. It's been a mess. Before, they replaced my dishwasher and garbage disposal, and there was no problem. But now, it has not been satisfactory at all. AHS said because of all the mix-up, they weren't gonna bill me but I don't even know what the next month is gonna be because my ATM card was compromised and they should call about the payment like I told them. But they’re not providing the service. I'm thinking about going to somebody else because I've got two properties that are insured. I'm frustrated. A toilet was leaking. I called AHS and specifically asked for A&B Plumbing. The rep tried to at first say that she couldn't assign it to a particular person, but we eventually got to the outcome. A&B is the only company that I like with American Home Shield. They needed a part to fix the toilet and they came back the same day with it. It's working now.
I have AHS because I have rental homes and they service both of the areas which I have rentals. But they don't have great follow-up. I called them the month before and the technician never showed up twice. I had taken off of work because it was during the day and their response to me was they'd call the tech again and hope that they come out the third time. But I couldn't keep that up. Also, the consumers should have a list of available companies that they can pick from that service the area, with the understanding that the techs may take the work order for the day but sometimes, their books may be filled, but there's a list of who are available at the time. Because if I get the company that came out last time that didn't show, I'm going to cancel and recall back until I can get somebody else. So it's really hit or miss with AHS. Sometimes you can get great contractors, and other times you really need to read the reviews before they come to your house.

Most of the vendors that American Home Shield hires are lousy so as a consumer, when they tell you who the vendor that they've assigned is, I've learned that you have to do your own research on the vendor and reject them if they're not very good because most of the ones that they send out have very low ratings on Google. If you do that, they'll eventually get you a good vendor. The last claim that I had was a plumbing leak. I rejected the initial vendor and AHS gave me a different one who did a great job. The one before that was an air conditioning problem and AHS sent a vendor out who wanted to charge three grand to repair it. My air conditioning unit froze up one day and since then, it had been doing this every year at around the same time. It starts when we start using the air conditioner when it gets warm. I've been told that I had a leak and the cost of it and I was ready to hear that and figure out what the next steps were. But I like to hear from more than one person. So, I put my order through American Home Shield to have someone look at it. They sent Sirius Plumbing and based on the issue, I told them what happened. They checked my pressures and I was definitely low in coolant. They went upstairs, did some checks and showed me the picture of some areas where it was damaged or needed to be repaired.
There were three different price options and they took their time to write it all up, longer than I normally have had with other companies. One was to replace just the lines and the cost of that would be four grand. Another one was to replace the lines and the outside unit and that was eight grand. Then there was another one that was a little bit over 10, to replace my damper systems, the board and lines, and even my furnace. If I'm gonna spend eight grand, I wanna get everything done. I don't wanna stop there so I picked the third option in which they scheduled time for me to get it paid for. They sent me the quote. I had to agree to it and I noticed that they wanted a payment method right away so I made sure that I had those funds ready. I clicked on it and they let me know that they could come out as soon as possible, which was good, because it was still warm enough where I don't wanna be uncomfortable.
The three-man crew came and disassembled everything. They covered the floor and the areas where there's gonna be a lot of traffic going on. They used the footing. They had one guy outside taking care of the outside unit while two guys were upstairs in the attic, and they got it done. They told me it was gonna take about a day and they weren't lying. They got there at 8 o'clock and they left at about 6:00. They explained everything well. I had questions because of the whole system which were just little quirks about it and they were telling me I didn’t have to worry about that anymore and that I should feel the difference. I got a bigger unit outside. I got the new system with the new refrigerant, which is cheaper than the old stuff that I had in there.
I had a digital thermostat that I purchased from Amazon a couple of years ago that I wanted to put up but it didn't work with the old unit and it worked on this unit. So the guys even installed that for me. When they were doing that, they brought out levels to make sure that that was right. I didn't have another one for the upstairs and they said I could order another one. They couldn't top off my coolant because it wasn't hot enough outside to gauge the pressures correctly. So they were gonna have to come back anyway. But when they come back, they would make sure to install the digital thermostat upstairs if I have it in. They were everything you would want. You're spending the money you're spending, then you wanna get good customer service and you want a good product. And so far, so good.
I like the new unit. I could be in my bed and I can turn the air on or off, or up or down, and upstairs and downstairs from my phone. One of the inconveniences of the old unit was I had to go into the attic just to change out the filter and I asked about the options of not having to do that. They said it would be a slight upcharge but they could reroute it where I will not have to go up in the attic to do that. And they did all that work, too. So I'm pleased with Sirius.
American Home Shield is more of the middleman because they've gone up each year. I've even had friends who have left AHS because they figured out the amount that they're paying a month that they weren't using it, and how they could save that money, and just for the event that they use it. I'm not a person that's handy with fixing stuff and it doesn't excite me to say that I got a project to work on. So having a little bit of peace of mind with having a company that will schedule and get people out to look at different things is good. AHS does a good job of being the middleman of getting you the services.
Nobody necessarily works for American Home Shield. They contract everything out and I've been with them long enough to know that. Because that's just what they do and they do a good job of that. They don't pressure you to do different things. They’re honest and upfront, and met my needs. I've had situations where it was a very urgent matter and they seemed to be responsive to that. You can get online quickly with them. One of the things that is weird is, before you even could get out good what the problem is, they're ready to collect payment. But it doesn't take them long to get you down the road with connecting you to somebody who can fix it. I've had the washing machine and the dishwasher stopped working and air issues multiple times, which is gonna be alleviated now.
We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

American Home Shield's response time in getting parts is a little extreme. A contractor came out when my washer went out. They said they could get the parts in six weeks. I can't go without a washer. I've got a house full of people so I just went ahead and bought a new washer. Recently, Ramco Plumbing came out, and it was a horrendous experience. American Home Shield started going on about how the water faucet in the shower was a Moran brand and they supposedly have a lifetime warranty, which when I did the research, that's not true. They charged me to send somebody out who was starting to talk about taking out the wall to fix the shower. I said, "We're not doing anything until I get some guarantees that you guys are gonna fix the wall back." The contractor said they don't do that.
At the end of the whole thing, they were charging me $140 to tell me they can't fix it, to contact Moran, or I can go buy the part, the contractor will fix it, but American Home Shield won't cover it. They called me back because I was not happy with it and told them upfront. They refunded me the $140. What I ended up doing was calling my old plumber. He came out the next day and fixed it in less than five minutes and it didn't require the wall coming down or changing out the entire shower. I'm not impressed with American Home Shield. I called into the office and spoke to someone. He took measurements and said they would try to find an element that would match to go in there. They finally found something and put it in there. But American Home Shield doesn't have great customer service. I was calling and telling them that the people didn't do anything but rep said, "We have to wait for their report." On December 26th, my washer broke. They came every week to try and fix it. It was not fixed until late March. At one point, they sent three guys to try and figure out what was wrong with it but it took them three weeks after that to figure out. Every time, they said they had to order a part. I spent so much money to do laundry in a laundromat but AHS didn't do anything to make it better for me after I've been paying them for two years. Their customer service sucks.

I called AHS on March 12th with no working heating. The first person they sent out said they couldn't diagnose it and let me know right away. They called AHS right away and let them know. AHS refused to reassign it for five days while I had no heat. It was in the 20s at night. Then AHS sent out TNR HVAC who came out April 12th. The board they were saying was the issue was working fine. The repairman said he needed to order it but he needed it approved but AHS. The next day, I called up AHS and they didn't have it in their system yet. I texted him and let him know it was not in the system if he ordered it. That was a Thursday. On Friday, I called up AHS again. They said they still didn't have it in the system. I tried getting ahold of him again but never got a return call.
On Friday night, he finally put in the part request from Wednesday. It took him two days to put in the part request. On Monday AHS finally told me the part had been approved and he was gonna order it. I sent him a text saying the part had been approved, even though I didn't think it was the right part. He sent me a text message that it should be in on Wednesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, I didn't hear from him. I tried contacting him. He finally replied and said the part would be in the next week. I said, "It was supposed to be in yesterday." He said, "Where did you get that?" All that next week, I kept trying to call him but he never returned a call. He had closed the ticket saying he couldn't get ahold of me.
I had to get the call log by the following Thursday and send it to AHS. They have very polite call people at AHS, but they don't do anything. They just push you off. The Twitter people are based down on North Carolina where AHS is headquartered and they responded. I wish the Twitter people were available for their website because no one responds from their website. You can set up an appointment, but you can't do anything with the problem. I sent them a call log showing that this guy from TNR HVAC had never called me back. That was when they said they'd get me somebody different. When I finally got ahold of the third guy, he didn't work on geothermals and he immediately was frustrated because he knew what I'd gone through. He said, "I don't even know why they gave me your account because I don't even work on geothermals." We had to start all over again and finally, the Breon guy came out and fixed it.
I've had good luck with AHS over the years for simple stuff. But HVAC is more complicated and none of the major firms will work with AHS because AHS won't pay them enough. They hire second-rate, not necessarily skilled people, but people willing to take less money. After that kind of service, I canceled AHS and would never recommend them again.

I'd like the cost to be a little low but American Home Shield is well worth it. Recently My LG refrigerator wasn't keeping anything cold. The first guy came out but the compressor was under warranty, and their service didn't cover warranty. They had to get an LG representative then. He came out, looked at it then put in the order for a new compressor. It took a little longer because we had to go through a second guy but they were all good.

I was waiting almost four months for something to be fixed. It was very frustrating. If I'm going somewhere for two months and the problem hasn't been fixed, they should close it. Also, I don't understand why it took so long to fix it. They fixed it but it took three different guys to figure it out. From what the last one said, it was a problem that somebody hooked something wrong and the water was not falling where it was supposed to be.

American Home Shield replaced our dishwasher and garage door opener. Recently, we had somebody come out and check the vents because there was not any warm or cold air going to one of the bedrooms. There wasn't anything that came of it but the problem is still there. Whenever I signed up with American Home Shield, I told them specifically, "When I call to file a claim, I wanna talk to somebody." They said I would but that's not true. You'd still be on an automated system and it's difficult. You can't talk to anybody. If you have a certain situation where it doesn't fit any of the automation selections, you can't get anywhere so there are multiple phone calls, this didn't work, hang up, and try something else. You can finally get to somebody, but it's a headache.

They came out a week later only to tell me that the issue that I am having is not covered and that I would have to hire a company to have it drained outside of my warranty. Even though Sediment build up is listed as one of the covered things on my contract. Again I am being let down by my homeowner insurance and this time I do plan to cancel. I am paying $1,000/year and $100 each time someone comes out only for them to not fix my issues. I am so defeated at this moment.

The same one they said couldn't be fixed, I got fixed and the component that they said was unavailable that they could not get, I have a brand new one right now. Also, I just had my dryer looked at last week and the tech said they fixed it but my wife went to use it last Tuesday and it broke again. They came back out and they said that the same part that they just replaced went out. Now, they have to order another one. I'm paying AHS money to do nothing for me.

The refrigerator has water coming out of it. It won't cool and all my food is spoiled. I can't use it. The repairman said that Samsung has a lawsuit against it. The second time he came out, he was here at 10:45 and was gone by 10:50. He opened it up, looked into it and saw the water leaking on the floor. He said there was nothing he could do and left. A couple of days later, I called American Home Shield and they referred it to Anthony's Appliance. Anthony's Appliance came out here and looked at it. The repairman pulled the refrigerator out. He got behind it and he checked them. He said the motherboard and the compressor are bad. They'd go back and see if they can find the part. That was when it went downhill.
I was waiting for somebody to tell me if the parts have been ordered. Every day I have to go buy my family food because we can't keep anything cool unless we freeze it in a freezer. I called American Home Shield and Sears and everybody told me that parts were on order. I called Anthony's Appliance and they told me there are no parts on order. They haven't found the parts yet. I started this on the 18th of April and was told I gotta wait till the 28th of May for this to be escalated back to American Home Shield to tell me to go out and look for one. Somebody should at least be able to tell me whether the parts are on order and they will be here X day. I can't even get that. On the 28th of May, I don't know what's gonna happen. I'm assuming I have to call American Home Shield and ask them. I have to go through all this hoopla again.
I'm very upset with American Home Shield. They don't care about their customers anymore. I call there and can't get an English-speaking person. I ask to speak to a supervisor and am told, "Sir, we don't have supervisors here. We have to put a ticket in for a supervisor to contact you between 24 and 48 hours.” Then the supervisor calls and tells me the same stuff four times. I threatened to cancel my service, and the people that are talking to me don't care if I canceled or not. You can't get corporate number. I asked for a phone number to the customer complaint section. I looked online to try to find it. The Better Business Bureau won't give it to me. The closest I can find out is they're in Tennessee somewhere. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield to anybody out there who needs home warranty.

I had a sink issue and I always speak with somebody when I submit claims and it's hard because once you make the claim, you have to wait for the company to come out. I had to call American Home Shield a few times so that they could call the contractor, DN Plumbing. Then, they came out and when they left, there was a leak in the garbage disposal area. Something disconnected from the garbage disposal but they came out and replaced the garbage disposal. AHS has always fixed issues and if they can't fix it, they would replace the unit and they've stood by that. That's why I will stay with them.

Don't get American Home Shield. They are going to look for any sentence on the contract to use on their favor. There's no way as a consumer to try to negotiate with them. We had an AC problem that made a bigger problem for the furnace and all the system that we changed. American Home Shield covered the initial things. They said that we needed to change the furnace because it had a crack. Our house is from 1910 and that previous furnace was installed way before we bought the house two years ago. The code was completely different, and nowadays that code is not valued anymore. They said because of that, they wouldn't cover anything so we had to pay out of pocket the furnace.
Currently, I have an open case for my washer and dryer. It's a General Electric single machine. It's not been working since the beginning of March. They sent General Electric company to see the machine. That was very fast. They needed to replace five parts which they ordered immediately. But one is in back order and they don't have an estimated date. They said that probably it will arrive late May. When they told me that, I asked for another option like cash-out because being without a washer and dryer for so many months is not ideal, and I‘m still paying for American Home Shield every month. They said that that's not an option. As soon as they open the case and order the parts, my only option as a consumer is to wait for that. It can take several months but there's nothing that I can do.

D & K Refrigeration did the scheduled maintenance last year. They told me some things that I needed to do to improve my equipment. None of that was covered by American Home Shield so I paid it and had it done. They came back and followed up to make sure that we were doing great. I appreciated that. Then, this year, we had a hot spell early part of March. We were trying to turn the air on and the air didn't come on. It was blowing, but it wasn't blowing cool air. I called it into American Home Shield and they gave me a company that didn't call that day.
I asked if they could please call D & K and to my surprise, they did just that. D & K came out that next morning. It was unbelievable. They told me the unit was gone and made contact with American Home Shield. They said they could come back that day and do it or they could do first thing in the morning. It was a holiday weekend and I had people coming to the house so they worked me in and got me taken care of. They came out early that morning and got it knocked out and made sure we were straight before they left and then came back to check. They did a wonderful job. That's what you call a vendor. I'm telling everybody about American Home Shield. Although sometimes I get someone that doesn't speak very good English. But that's the nature of the beast now for everyone.

The repairman did what he had to do when we had an AC issue. It was quick. However, half the time, I can't understand whoever it is. I have to ask for a supervisor but they will not allow me to talk to a supervisor. I've had a couple of experiences with them not taking the payment out of my account like they're supposed to. They will wait and call me four days later then they keep calling me every day. I had rented my house out and had to evict the people. There were different things that had happened where I had to call American Home Shield. It was a very difficult thing to do being in Hawaii and not being in Texas. But the lady on the phone told me, "You need to write down everything that is wrong and we'll go through everything." That was a beautiful thing because they came out and did everything. American Home Shield saves me a lot of money. I haven't regretted getting at all.

I had a very big issue with AHS because my ex was living in the house and it was a two-year battle to get him out. I'm the sole homeowner and the policyholder and yet he would call in and get them to change and make him the administrator, which he had no right to do. Whoever he got ahold of on the phone allowed it and kept me out of access to my own account, but was charging services to my credit card. I went through a whole thing with the legal department. I sent them copies of the deed and this and that and the other for proof. This went on for months and months and he still was able to call in. I don't know if they didn't look over the notes, but they would change it for him. This happened like six times. I finally got him out, though, but it went on for a while. Other than that, my experience is good when it's good and it's horrible when it's not. With other experiences where people came out and did the work, I am satisfied. I still recommend that people get it to protect themselves, even if it doesn't cover everything. It's a smart thing to do.

The last claim I had was for the stove and it took some months. I live in the country and we had some problems trying to get somebody out here in my area. They had brought out a few technicians but they couldn't repair it and then, instead of closing it out, which was fine, they transferred it. The second one did the same thing and I went through three contractors before they found somebody. Also, I had to keep calling because they lost track of my stove. The technicians would get back to American Home Shield and give their response. Sometimes, I would wait a while and ask what happened. That also took a long time. There was a long delay between American Home Shield and the technician and that didn't help either. I put in the claim in September and I just got it fixed last month. They said at first by Thanksgiving, but Thanksgiving came. Then, I had to buy a little electric oven stove so I can make a turkey for my family and have a stove to use for when I need one because of the stove being broke.
Usually, they're pretty good, though, and I've never had this much trouble. I was in the city and I've had pretty good service with them and they send good people out. But from what it was before and what I have gotten through now, the service really changed. I feel like before, they'd come out and do what they gotta do. If they had to order a part, they would turn that in tell them that they had to order part. But it seems like the communication between the technician and the American Home Shield isn't followed up unless I called. I had to be the one in the middle and keep calling in order to get somebody else going.

I've always loved American Home Shield. They've always done me right. In the first 15 years that I had them, they bought me a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a stove 'cause the old ones couldn't be fixed. Recently, my washer could not be repaired because they no longer make the part. The repairman tried to find a used machine that had been junked but couldn't find my part. American Home Shield is buying me a machine. I've got my money's worth from what I pay on a monthly basis and I'm very satisfied with what I pay. 15 years ago, it was $75 every time they came out. Now, it's $100 but with everything else going up, I accept that.

A contractor came to fill coolant in my unit. A little twist cap had come loose so they tightened it. It's a convenience to be able to call somebody but I've not been happy with American Home Shield because they won't fix big repairs. They'll only put Band-Aids on stuff. I have a 38-year-old furnace, and when the pan to the coils were leaking water all over the floor, they wanted to replace the coils. They couldn't even get the coils. They'd have to retrofit them from something they'd get from China. I opted to take the buy-out but that was only $500. I had another company I was using on a rental property that had the same thing happened. It was the condenser that went out and they paid $3,000 for the whole thing. We ended up putting a new furnace in that cost $4,000, so it was a much better deal.
When my hot water heater broke, I didn't call American Home Shield when it started leaking because I knew they would charge me $1,300 over and above what that hot water heater would have cost. I called somebody else and had them put one in that cost under $1.000. When my dishwasher was making a weird noise, a repairman came out. He couldn't find the issue and told me it was fine. But it was still making this weird noise. I called again, and they sent the same the guy up. It was still making a weird noise. I had them come out a third time and asked for somebody different. A guy came out and found a popsicle stick.
If you go online and say “my air conditioning is not working,” you don't have a chance to say it's not cooling. If you say it's not cooling and it turns out to be something else, then they wanna charge you another service charge. If you call them and tell them, “I don't know what it is. It's not cooling,” and you can describe it to them, you get a much better result than if you just go online and take their multiple choice questions. They give you options, and you have to pick an option, but it doesn't explain what's going on then they send you the wrong person out. American Home Shield has gone down over the years. The price has gone up so high it makes me wanna quit.

I love having American Home Shield. I tell people about it all the time. They replaced the refrigerator for me, which they did great with. They replaced the motor and the evaporator in my AC unit. They also replaced the pool pump and the motor. This is the second time the same person has come out in two years. Two years ago, the same pump went out and they came out and replaced it. They came out and fixed the garage door too. Any time I have anything go wrong in the house, I just go to my app and submit the claim. I've spent less on American Home Shield than they've spent on me.
I had one problem with the AC when I had the evaporator go out. We tried to get in touch with them on a Friday but they couldn't get out until Monday or Tuesday. It was frustrating. I've had the AC serviced twice where they had to put freon in. The first time, they had to put in 11 pounds. They said it was completely drained. When they came out to replace the evaporator, they said they replaced the evaporator then a year later, they said it was empty again. That was the third time I would have had to have freon, but twice in a year.
The company that was doing the service said they were gonna have to pull all of freon out and they'd have to replace. They wanted me to pay for all 11 pounds, and it was worth $1,100. I argued with them but they said, “No, that's what we have to do.” I canceled the service with that company. I hired another guy who came out here, and he only had to put in four pounds to replace what was here. It only cost me $400 instead of the 11 pounds they were gonna charge me.

I love American Home Shield. I've been on the website, and it was easy to use. When I first got American Home Shield, it was 79, and now, it's gotten up to 93. Still, my experience has been awesome, except one time when my septic messed up. I had to go seven days because they couldn't find anybody to come out and fix it. They had to reimburse me my $100 and I had to get it done on my own. That's the only problem I've had though.
When my air conditioner went out, I contacted American Home Shield by phone and talked to a person. They sent out Baskett's Repair and they changed something that looks like an oil filter. All in all, people need to get American Home Shield 'cause they're good. I've done got my brother's fiancee, and she's got it on her mom and daddy's house, and she's got it on her trailer. I'm talking with my best friend to get it on her house as well.
