AHS put a new compressor in my AC about a year or two ago and I had to pay for a certain amount of pounds of Freon. Then, I recently called them to get an AC problem done and they told me that they weren't gonna fix it because I recently just had it fixed. They had me confused about that and the rep was gonna override it like that. The technician came out and said I was gonna probably need a compressor. I told him they had just put the current one and he said they didn't put in brand-new parts. He put in another capacitor, which he had on his truck. It took him 15 minutes and he was on his way. The AC has been good after the repair.
The only thing with AHS is the waiting process. If I call them early morning, it would be nice to have somebody come out early evening. But we gotta wait a couple of days sometimes. When I first moved in my house, my pilot light went out and I didn't know how to light it. For somebody to come out here for five minutes and light the pilot light back up, we had to wait almost a week in December. I wish they had some more contractors on call to be able to service customers the next day. Other than that, customer service is pretty good.

I'm glad I have the insurance. I really appreciate it. My washer broke and I was expecting it to be fixed because I thought that was the best thing to do. But when I heard that it didn't have a way to be fixed, then I realized how nice it is to have home insurance. AHS provided me with the allowance to buy a new one and everything was great. The price has been increasing a little but the way they help you when you need it the most compensates. It is worth it.
Hi Maria, we're so happy to hear that AHS was able to help out with your washer. If you need anything else in the future, please don't hesitate to reach out to us again!

DO NOT sign up for this company. They are affiliated with repair services where the technicians extort money from women in their homes when they are alone with them. They say it’s not covered unless you pay cash. The other problem is they doublecharge for issues. They don’t fix the problem and just continue taking money and refuse to refund when they make an error. Avoid at all costs!

My air conditioner was making a lot of noise, and it wasn't working properly. So I called American Home Shield and the rep was very good and very sensitive to my claim. She promptly found somebody to come out and send me a text telling me what was gonna happen. Then I waited for the company that was gonna come out here to send me a text of when they would come. I also got their phone number in case I wanted to contact them.
The gentleman came out and assessed the situation, and told us what he was gonna do. He was gonna contact American Home Shield and see if they would pay for whatever was needed to fix my air conditioner. We waited a couple of days but I didn't hear nothing back. So I contacted American Home Shield again and the rep contacted the contracted company and asked what was happening. They were waiting for some parts and then a day or two later, they came out here to fix it.
It was very easy to get in contact with American Home Shield. My husband and I are elderly and we depend on people like American Home Shield to help us. I've always had real good results with them. American Home Shield gives me tranquility and knowing that they're gonna pick somebody that will come out here. They take care of everything that's happening and I don't have to worry about it. I know it'll get fixed.

My refrigerator still hasn't been fixed and this has been since May. It comes down to the people American Home Shield hired. American Home Shield says they're waiting for the final report from the people (who said they couldn't fix it) so that they can determine the next step. The people haven't submitted the report. American Home Shield keeps calling them, but they're getting no response. I've called American Home Shield 30 times about this but nothing has been done.
Additionally, my dishwasher claim is still going on. The people that came out to fix my dishwasher damaged my floor. I told the American Home Shield and said, "That's not our problem, that's their problem." That was shocking to me that they hired this company. They had the same people come out three times, and the dishwasher hasn't been fixed. The people that came out to do my dishwasher a few weeks ago wrote in the report that due to new flooring installed, the dishwasher was damaged.
My flooring just got done two weeks ago and I've had this claim since May. They didn't do flooring under my dishwasher or pull out my dishwasher. For the appliance people to write that my new flooring was the reason why my dishwasher is damaged doesn't make sense. American Home Shield said, "Sorry, that's what they wrote in their report. You can get a second opinion if you want. But we're not gonna do anything about your claim because it's not their fault that the flooring damaged my dishwasher." I'd have to take it to small claims on my own.
Sears has been great but Superior Appliance Repairs has been awful. The repairman told me that my dishwasher wasn't leaking. I said, "This is your third time out. It's leaking." He said, "No, it's not. It's fine." He got out to his car and I watched it leak when he left. I went out to his car and told him I was watching it leak. He got out of his car, rolled his eyes at me and came back in. He was extremely rude. He saw the leak and said, "You're right. The dishwasher has always leaked. I think it's a manufacturer thing. You're gonna get a brand new dishwasher from American Home Shield. I just need to write up this report." But I read the report where he said due to the new flooring installation, the tub is cracked. I texted him and he said, "I said nothing about your flooring." I said, "Yes, you did. Otherwise, American Home Shield wouldn't know I had new flooring until two weeks ago."

We've been with American Home Shield for about 20 years and I'm not really pleased. I wouldn't recommend it. The price is increasing, but the quality is decreasing. I don't mind paying extra for quality service. But when the service decreases, I have a problem paying it. I submit my claims online. But when I have a concern about a service provider not contacting me, I reach American Home Shield by phone to figure out what's the delay about. The service contractor that came out recently was a little arrogant. He didn't listen very correctly. It was horrible. I wasn't happy.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

The repairman with Sears was very pleasant, straight to the point and knowledgeable. He looked inside the freezer and there was ice build-up on the inside of it. He said right then and there, he knew that the refrigerator and freezer was low on freon. He pulled it out, did an inspection with the air compressor and checked a few other parts. When he was done, he gave me an estimate.
The estimate to just replace the parts was going to be as much as replacing the refrigerator. He said the refrigerator was 21 years old. I told him wouldn't it be better to go ahead and replace the refrigerator then. He said that American Home Shield usually gives them that option. I asked if there was any way we could call and ask them. He said, “Let me try it and see what we can do,” and that he would get back with me, which he did. I also called American Home Shield and told them what he thought and what we had talked about. They ultimately said that it would be better to go ahead and replace the refrigerator. The contractor cleaned up their mess and was in and out of here in less than 45 minutes, and that's taking the old appliance out, bringing the new one in, hooking it up, and making sure it worked.
I have been with American Home Shield for quite a long time. They've fixed my freezer and my washer and dryer. Their contractors call you before they come, which is their guarantee. But the washer is another story. I had to wait almost a month before I was able to get that fixed. When you call them, some reps are very rude. If you don't call at the right time, they brush you off. I eventually got that straightened out and for the most part, I'm happy with American Home Shield.
I refer friends and family to American Home Shield. Another home warranty called and and told me they could offer me a lower rate. I told them I am happy with American Home Shield. They asked why would I wanna pay more if I could pay less. I told them it's because of the relationship that we’ve built and the number of years that we've been together. My family's been around when they've been here, and they know how they operate and how their plans work. I told them for the money that you pay, it's worth it.
We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

Elite Electrical Solutions came out when my lights in certain parts of the house went out. But they didn't finish the job because they said it was about 2000 and some dollars to finish it. The electrician said I need to get the whole circuit breaker system replaced because some of the panels were burnt out. He also said that the circuit breakers that were there weren't the original circuit breakers. I told them I bought the house and never got anything replaced.
He took the power from one circuit breaker and to put it on another one. He said it was an empty circuit breaker that wasn't being used. After he left, I had power back downstairs and upstairs. I like that I can call American Home Shield and won't have to pay an arm and a leg for whatever I need. Their service is fast. When I called them the first time, it was a Thursday and they said I should get a call within 24 hours, which I did. But the contractor couldn't come out to fix anything until that Monday. They didn't work on the weekend.

We had to have a heating and cooling unit replaced, and it was a little more expensive than we expected it to be. It was $7,000. The chances of something like this happening is slim. Generally, you would get years’ worth of premiums before you have to pay out on something like this. It wasn't all covered, which was what we expected. We ended up paying 50% of the replacement cost and we didn't have a choice because it's 100 degrees here in the summer. We take care of my father who's got Alzheimer's so we can't have no air conditioning. The reason we got American Home Shield was so that when something like that happened, it wouldn't crush us. We're teachers and we don't get paid during the summer. Now, we're running low on money.

American Home Shield has good technicians. The only one that I do not like was the one that came out to fix my washer. American Home Shield had sent a second guy out to look at it. He looked young and had told me, "I can't get your washer going, but I went ahead and hooked up everything just in case you want to check it out for yourself to see if you can get it going."
I went in there to turn the washer on and found out he didn't hook up the drain hose. One can't imagine how much water was in my washroom and it ran out to my hallway. My husband, my son and I wound up cleaning it up on our own because we were not going to go spend all this money to get water off the floor. That was the worst incident I had with American Home Shield. But they replaced it with a brand new washer which was way better and a little bigger that my old one so I was very pleased with it. The co-pay which is $125 plus tax is steep at times though considering we already pay a monthly fee.

A contractor came out and looked at my two units that weren't cooling, cleaned it up a little bit and added coolant to it. Both of them work fine now. However, the website should allow that I have two units that needed to be looked at. On the website, if I wanted both of them to be considered, I had to put in two tickets, which would cost me double the amount of the fee. Whenever they came out there, I told them I had two units and I had to call a number that they gave me and get it added to my ticket. The contractor was patient because I had to wait on the phone to get permission from American Home Shield to add the second unit. They were knowledgeable and professional as well.

American Home Shield is a great way to go if something ever breaks down. I was happy when my stuff got covered like my refrigerator and my washer, and I didn't have to pay out of pocket. Recently, I made a call for a furnace that was leaking. The rep helped me well but it took three days before I got a contractor in. Then the contractor started diagnosing with other things in there and nothing was getting done. The whole time they knew it was the furnace. The guys were nice, but I felt they didn't know what they were doing. That same contractor came to my mother-in-law's house and gave them a huge diagnosis of wanting to replace the whole thing but it was only a condenser outside. They wanted to charge her $10,000.
They gave me a charge of $700 and I felt they overcharged me as well. I thought I wasn't supposed to pay anything but they charged me for the freon. I heard them say, "It's full. She doesn't need freon." They just transferred whatever was in there to an empty can and put that same freon back in. I needed that done because my house was being sold. Nothing was getting done and I felt I was going after it. American Home Shield couldn't change my contractor. They need better contractors.

I had been having problems with my refrigerator and there was water from the freezer that was leaking into my crisper. I had a lot going on that time and I thought it seemed minor. So, I though I would just wipe up the water and go on, then I'd call AHS at a later date. But the problem got to be a bigger problem than I had anticipated. So I called American Home Shield. I've had them for five years but and it was the first claim I've ever made. You hear horror stories about other people using similar companies and having to wait a long time before you get service. But when I made the claim, the next day, the man from the company who did the repair called and we scheduled an appointment for later that week. When he came out, he was quick and very personable. I got my refrigerator fixed and I was really impressed with the service between American Home Shield and the person who did the repair.
Their price seems reasonable, too. They have a lot insured in my house. I have a lot of old appliances and I have an old air conditioner. And I pay 80 something per month for all of my appliances, plus I have to pay $100 for the deductible. Having AHS saves me money because I've had other service people come out for other things and their service fees alone is $75.

AHS is expensive at this point with the service fee. I've also had some bad experiences with the contractor coming in and saying there was nothing wrong with this and so on. I recently had a claim for a ceiling fan and I had to buy another ceiling fan. The techs put it on, then I had them come back and adjust it. But it's still noisy. Aside from that, at my ex-husband's house, he reported several appliances that weren't working right. But the tech said that they were all working right and that was completely unacceptable. Now, a good year and a half since now, everything there is still the same. AHS is a good back up if you need it. But they're not my first choice anymore. When I submit a claim with them, I always call in and generally, my experience with them have been decent. Some have been good, some have been not so good. I also had better experiences up in Massachusetts than I've had here in Florida.

I've had AHS for a very long time but I have only made a few claims. Thankfully, each time I had a claim, the process was all right. I recently had a claim for a refrigerator in one of my rental properties. Something was wrong with the freezer where the temperature wasn't staying controlled. I keep the warranty to help the renter and she contacted me. I submitted the claim, then put her information in to be contacted. And that process was really smooth.
But one time, when I tried to cancel the contract, I didn't realize that they were annual contracts and I was one week out. And it was because I had sold the house. So, I was pretty frustrated by that. I didn't own the house anymore and I didn't want to have a warranty on it. And AHS was pretty difficult, so I ended up having to negotiate with them to apply the one year to the rental house. But I didn't like being locked in for a whole year and I didn't recall getting much communication from them about it. I felt frustrated that they weren't willing to work with me more when I had sold the house.

I put in a request online, then the next day, if it's a work day, American Home Shield sends me who the service provider is and I give them a call. This time, the request was for my garage door. Cactus Garage Doors was helpful, and their customer service was good. They sent a guy out the next available time, and it was fast. It took about two weeks 'cause they had to order the part, but that was to be expected. Besides that, the service guy didn't try to up charge me and he knew what he was doing. He put up the new system and let me know how it worked. It was excellent. It all depends on what I'm filing a claim for though.
I've had some bad experiences with American Home Shield because of the people that they hire. I have high-end appliances in my kitchen, and on those things, when they send a service rep out, they're usually not that great. A lot of times, they're looking at Youtube like I do. They're at a loss too. I have to keep calling American Home Shield to send someone else who knows what they're doing. On the other hand, when I file a claim for my pool, my air conditioning, my garage, or anything else, it's good.

Through the years I've had them, there had been one contractor I didn't like and I let them know. All contractors but that one were good. But what I've noticed is a lot of new businesses will pick them up and when they get established, a lot of times, they don't wanna take them anymore.

I've been in my house for 18 years, and I've been with American Home Shield ever since. I haven't dealt with anybody else. If I can afford it, then I say, "Hey, that's it." I'm the type of person that if it's in the ballpark, I don't search for the cheapest price. Because sometimes, the cheapest price isn't the best thing. I'm sticking with American Home Shield because my overall experience has been good.
My last incident was with my water heater. It was my third one in 15 years. It went out, and I had to get it replaced. The repair people made two visits on it, then American Home Shield gave me a market price for the water heater. I had to go to Lowe's, get one and get it put in. American Home Shield gave me so much money, but it was less than half of what it cost for Lowe's to come out and replace the water heater for me, but the other two water heaters, they did it themselves. Other than that, when I call American Home Shield, the repair people come and get it fixed. All I normally pay is the upfront fee, and they take care of it.

Every time American Home Shield sends somebody out here, they’re able to fix the problem that I have. It was only this time they didn't. The repairman didn't fix my refrigerator. He checked the top and the bottom of it and said he was gonna order some parts. He told me the part with a rubber piece that I needed would take two weeks. But they sent him back out here without the part that was why he couldn't complete it. He would have finished the job if he had the parts. American Home Shield sent somebody else out and he's supposed to be out this week to fix it. Also, every time somebody comes out here, the bill goes up. My AC was not cooling. I took my kids to a friend's house to swim, and we came home, and it was 82 in the house. I immediately put in a service order to American Home Shield because it stopped cooling completely. I got a text that CamAire Services was going to be coming out. They said that if they had not contacted me within 24 hours, I could contact them. The tech was amazing. He told me that the last service provider that I had out here ripped us off through American Home Shield. I was like, “Yeah, the last guy that came out, he gave us 10 pounds of Freon, and that's not covered by my contract, and I had to pay out-of-pocket.” He looked at me and said, “Well, your sticker says that your unit only holds eight. So they pocketed that money.” I didn't know that.
I feel like American Home Shield is so expensive for how little I get service done, but also I need it because what if something breaks, and then I don't have anything. The service is good if you live in a major city. I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's kind of hit or miss with service. You don't really get a choice with the people that they pick. You just get assigned to whoever you get assigned to, whereas they used to contract with any factory service in Sears, and so I knew what to expect. But since Sears went out of business, now it's just like a mom and pop. It's kind of a roll of the dice and not everybody's honest.

One of my rental houses had a water leak in the kitchen sink and when Home Service Plumbers came out, the plumbers said that they couldn't do anything to help because the residence was a duplex. Even though I own both sides and it was just fixing one side, he stopped right then and there and he said he couldn't do anything and it was out of his hands. Ultimately, that cost me a lot of money because that was a big water leak and there was a lot of water damage. I had to call an additional plumber to come out and help fix this leak. It turned out to be more expensive than it was because the leak went on and I had to get that thing fixed immediately. I've used American Home Shield for years and we've had multiple people come out and service us for several different reasons. For the most part, I was taken care of but for some reason, this guy turned his head and said, "I can't help you because this is a dual residence." He left us there with our hands tied and it left me in a huge financial burden. I dropped AHS.

His & Her Plumbing came out and installed a tank. As he removed the older water tank, he didn't put anything on it and he put it on my rug and put a rust ring, so now I have to always use a rug cleaner to clean it. He continued to put the water tank in and the water pan was broken. I said that water pan is 20 years old and if it leaks, it's gonna leak again and he said he had to take it all off. I said that would be improperly installing it if he had to break it and he went back and put it back in. I'm looking at it, the fittings and the piping, and it looks fine but let's say the fitting was wrong and we have a problem, the one thing that prevents all that water from escaping is the water pan. You don't compromise that. And when he first came out, he looked at it and he said it was gonna be $1,000. But I did a couple of quotes and the price was almost $200 less. I've done other quotes that were much higher, so he was still within the lower end, but there was still enough variance from what I paid versus what he quoted. That made me uncomfortable.
Also, several years back, we had an air conditioning unit go down and we did not get anyone to come out and look at it. I called on it numerous times and it was during the summer. I didn't end up getting it serviced and I paid to get it looked at. I never got an answer and I just got a refund. And my outlet went out in the garage and I couldn't figure out why. The individual came out and it was a circuit breaker. The tech said he couldn't fix that but he was an electrician. That was the end of that. I was almost done with American Home Shield at that point.

We have two different air conditioning units in our home and they do not run separately from one another. I had a leak in my unit upstairs where it was leaking water and I was able to contain it. But I needed it taken care of. I don't want water getting all over the floor and ruining the floor and then going through the ceiling and going downstairs. The contractor came out to diagnose the units, stopped the leak and made sure that the water was flowing properly through the pipes so that we were getting cold air through the vents upstairs and getting proper air conditioning.
I usually go online to submit claims through the American Home Shield portal and it’s very easy to navigate. I've used it many times when I have an issue or to follow up on an issue. It's straightforward. They allow you to choose a category or subcategories, and note what the issue is. If the contractors are coming out to work on something that had previously been worked on and maybe it's not working again, AHS typically already knows a good technician in the area they could send you because they have some history with it. So, it's fairly simple.
AHS does a good job of protecting the appliances and systems in your home, depending on the program you choose. And it's a nice peace of mind of knowing that if you have an issue, while there will be some money out of your pocket, it's gonna be nowhere near what it could be if you didn't have that kind of coverage. The cost is the cost. But they've also also saved us so much on repairs.

My washing machine didn’t work so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it went smoothly. It took about a week to get the first appointment for the contractor to come and diagnose. The tech figured out the problem and ordered parts. About two weeks later, they came out again and fixed the washing machine. So far, everything has been good.

My water heater burst and I have the home warranty plan with American Home Shield. So, I notified them. They gave me somebody but it was a six-day wait. So, I called back to get them to change. When the other company came out, they did an initial diagnosis and then I had to wait for a manager to do a second diagnosis, which took two to three days. After they did the second diagnosis, I had to make a decision to wait for American Home Shield to make the determination on how much they were gonna pay for it. When I called them, they were waiting on the company to send them their diagnosis. So, the manager left his card. I called him and I found out that he was sick so, it took another day and a half before he was able to get the quote to AHS on what was wrong and what needed to be replaced.
I went nine days without a hot water heater because I was waiting for American Home Shield to make a determination on what they were going to pay. And in the interim, I asked them if I could place my water heater and wait for them to make a determination and they told me no because I needed to know how much they were going to pay. I told them it didn't matter. So, I did what's called the payment in lieu that they would just send me the money so I can go ahead and not wait on them and get my hot water heater replaced. They said they would email me how much they would pay. But I never got the email. I waited two days but I started the process to get my own. I called and they told me I couldn't speak to anybody until they made a decision. I couldn't even talk to anybody in that department. So, I said, "Okay."
I did my water heater and after three days, I called. They said I had to go into their portal and accept what it was that they were gonna give me. But that's not what they said. They told me I needed to wait for an email and she said that's not how they do it anymore. I don't work for American Home Shield and their employees answering the telephone don't have that information. So, she said she would transfer me. And the lady said I gotta go in the portal. After all was said and done, the water heater probably cost me about $1100. And they gave me 300. So, I'm not gonna use American Home Shield anymore.
I got the service because I realized that a lot of times you don't have emergency money sitting around waiting for something to break down. And I know stuff is gonna break down. I've had AHS for over 10 years so I know. This is probably my third time using them and I am very dissatisfied with the way they handle the phones and how they get the vendor. I’m also very dissatisfied when you call back and gotta go through all of these prompts before you even speak to anybody.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the difficulties you've experiencing and would like to discuss this more. Feel free to email me at consumeraffairs@ahs.com.

It took over six months for American Home Shield to resolve an issue. It took another almost two months for them to resolve another issue. And then my warranty is tied to the agreement, so I couldn't even get my warranty on the air conditioner repair. American Home Shield is awful. I told them I was gonna cancel once I got everything resolved. Now, For the last couple of months that I didn't pay, they're saying I owe them and I had to pay those months. I would not recommend them. Everybody I talked to wouldn't recommend them. Even their contractors said that they were bad.
We had AHS initially when I purchased my home, and then I started it back at the end of last year. In December, I filed a claim for a dishwasher, and it took until May to get it resolved. On our air conditioner, they were sending people out to fix the unit. When they got here, they didn't even know what they were coming for. We have three different units in this home. I live in the south. They replaced an AC coil inside the house. It went out again about two months later. When I called, I was told I had to deal with American Home Shield because my warranty is with them. When I called American Home Shield, they said, “I cannot help you because your policy has been canceled.” I said, “Yes. But this happened before that.” They said, “It doesn't matter. You would have to catch up in order to do that.”
I went and paid another company to replace an entire air conditioning unit for the amount I had to pay a company to replace just a coil plus what I pay American Home Shield. I got an entire unit for almost the same amount that American Home Shield said I had to pay the contractor. The reason it didn't work was because they replaced the coil but the coil takes a different type of Freon that was an older unit, and they didn't tell me that. So, it was completely out of Freon in less than two months. I have nothing good to say about American Home Shield. Their contractors come out and they say, “American Home Shield is awful.” Even my boss said, “The first thing you did wrong was American Home Shield.”

My washing machine had an issue. I submitted a claim with AHS and it went well. The tech was good but the drawback was they ordered the part and it didn't come in for three months. In the meantime, I had to go to the laundromat. Once the part was received, it took the tech one day to complete the repair and since then, the washing machine has been working better. The person that AHS used for the repair did a really good job and was very informative. He also touched bases with me a lot.

The water was not coming out of the showerhead. I called American Home Shield and made a service request. I know you can do it online. However, if you do it online, the computer will randomly pick any one of the five plumbing vendors in my area. The reason why I call in is because I specifically want Sigmond Plumbing to come and do it. Before I signed up with American Home Shield, I asked them for the list of all their AC, plumbing and electricity vendors then I called each of them. As a homeowner, I want to know who picks up their phone and if they don't pick up their phone, I don't use them. That's very frustrating to me. So, of the five plumbing vendors in my area, Sigmond Plumbing was the only one to pick up their phone and that's why I always request them. The inexperienced agents would say that they could not assign Sigmond Plumbing. I just hang up, call back, get a different agent, and they do it for me.
Years ago, the AC broke and the company said that they needed to get approval from American Home Shield, which took days. Then, they had to order the part and that took days as well. So my tenant was without AC in the middle of summer in Florida for four weeks and that was very frustrating because my tenant was mad at me. But I could understand her frustration. Her house thermostat got up to 102 degrees without AC and she had three kids. So, American Home Shield should improve their response time. What bothers me the most is that time that you have to wait and not knowing anything.
For my recent shower claim, when Sigmond Plumbing's guy came out,he told me what needed to be done and it was a complex thing to do it the right way. Then they needed to get approval from American Home Shield and they gave approval within 48 hours. So my tenants didn't have a shower for 48 hours. Then Sigmond Plumbing came back out, and that was again after the weekend, to add another two days. The technician said that all he got to do was change a washer. He said he didn't need to do all the stuff that the other technicians said they needed to do. So, that's a complaint on American Home Shield for sending out a technician that didn't know what the heck he was doing the first time.
I have another complaint that I had with American Home Shield a few months ago. It was for the same apartment where the AC went out. I called it in, the technician came, and he was saying that it was electrical. The AC guy got it working but he said the breaker needed to be replaced because there were not enough amps. Then, the electrical company came out and they said everything was fine because the breaker wasn't tripped. But my tenant told me that it would trip once every two days. But the electrical contractor said that they couldn't replicate the problem so they couldn't do anything about it. So I paid the $125 deductible for the AC guy just to flip a switch and the issue is still not resolved.

The refrigerator door was broken. There was a piece missing off the door to create the seal. I went online to notify American Home Shield. I didn't have any issues navigating the website and submitting my claim. I got the email letting me know what company was gonna be coming out to do the service repair. The service tech that came up was fine. He was in and out. It didn't take long to assess the damage. Everything was quick and professional. He said that he would have to submit the claim, and then they might need another part to repair because the refrigerator is old and they might have issues repairing the refrigerator and that was it.
With my AHS plan, I like not having to worry about repairs. I just submit my request, pay the service fee, have someone come out and address my complaint, and tell me what needs to be done. There was one time that someone came and fixed the issue, didn't have to go any further to get somebody to order a part and wait for that to come in. So it's good knowing that if an equipment or appliance needs to be replaced, I can get something of equal or lesser value for free.

The air conditioner wasn’t cooling and the request for any service is easy enough but after that, you’re kinda on your own. American Home Shield tells you the name of who's coming but there is no background. So, I took it upon myself after everything happened to find out what kind of reviews the contractor had and they were terrible.
The tech struck an instrument into the flywheel of the air conditioner, which was never broken, and they broke it. He told my husband that he was gonna go back and have to put in a request to replace it. But we were told that it was already broken and that we had to pay roughly 600 something dollars to get it fixed and AHS wouldn't cover it. But they never addressed the initial issue as to why it wasn't cooling, which turns out I had to pay my own money to have the flywheel looked at and fixed. It turned out it was the motherboard that needed to be replaced and it had nothing to do with the flywheel. The tech didn't know what he was doing.
I tried to call AHS corporate and it doesn’t exist. I had to call countless times to talk with someone to get it elevated. So they didn't do anything. The last time I talked to someone could have been a week or so ago, but I told them that I've already fixed it and I want the refund for the service call as well as me getting it fixed. They said they were gonna refund everything but it hadn't populated into my account yet. I’m very dissatisfied and I would highly recommend people not to deal with AHS.

We had a few service calls on it, and then they finally decided to replace it.

I submitted a claim online and the AHS website was really good. They gave me a call and told me the person that was coming and when they'd be there. They sent me the information with the company, too. The tech was very friendly. He tested the garbage disposal then he ended up replacing the garbage disposal. Everything's great now.
I like having the security of having the protection and knowing that you can get service when you need it or you can get stuff fixed in your house when you need it without having to pay an astronomical amount. But the downside behind it is, there are certain things that aren't covered with the service. So sometimes there could be some hidden cost. This happened a while ago with my air conditioning unit that went out. The techs came to service it but they said Freon wasn't included and it was 1,000 bucks for Freon.

I've had AHS in three different cities, Dallas, El Paso, and now San Antonio. My previous experience had been wonderful. However, this time in San Antonio, it was completely awful. It took three months to get my refrigerator fixed. The vendors that they referred me to would schedule appointments with no-show. I have confirmations of all of the appointments that I scheduled. American Home Shield didn't do anything to fix it.
When they moved it to another vendor, the second vendor came out and said that the refrigerator was covered under the previous manufacturer warranty and therefore, I needed to go through the manufacturer. American Home Shield still hasn't reimbursed me for the $100 deductible that I paid back in March to get my refrigerator fixed. All they did was send me a letter and told me that because the manufacturer would still cover my refrigerator that they were not going to cover it.

Before that, I had a claim for my air conditioner, then I found out it was something somebody worked on before and that they didn't plug it back in correctly. I had the dishwasher replaced through American Home Shield. They replaced with a new dishwasher since the previous could not be fixed. And then, once it got replaced, over the next few months, we kept getting this error message on the dishwasher where it would randomly just stop. So, then I called American Home Shield a couple of times and then somehow when the technician came in, the dishwasher was working. I could not replicate the issue that I used to have sometimes. So, it was on and off.
When I looked up the issue online, the error message was like E1F9, which indicates that it is kind of a drain issue. I would hit "cancel cycle" and then "drain" and then it would run through the whole cycle. Randomly, it would stop. So, then, also, we saw some water outside the dishwasher. Like the wood was kind of damp. We've called American Home Shield twice, where they said, "Oh, the dishwasher is running fine. I don't see the problem. When it occurs, that's when I can see what's going on." So we could never replicate the issue while someone was here.
My husband called Maytag since the appliance was less than a year old. So, the tech came in two days ago and he pulled the dishwasher. The bottom line is the hose that connects to the garbage disposal was not connected. The dishwasher was draining on the wood floor. The pipe was leaking. We were told that it was not installed properly. American Home Shield had me call the company that installed it. So I called the person who installed it and according to him, the installation was done properly. But I see the hardwood under the dishwasher is just gone. It's fully damaged. It's all rotten. What I noticed was surrounding the dishwasher, I saw the wood was kind of getting damp. This has been going on for a few months.
We were in Charlotte for 18 years and we had American Home Shield then. We moved to Cary and the previous owners of our house had another insurance company. So, we continued with that and when that ran out, we shifted to American Home Shield. They have been amazing through all of our issues here. But this dishwasher issue was just an anomaly.

My AC had a problem and it needed Freon. The contractor that AHS sent out who serviced it said it needed six pounds and they were charging $100 a pound, which meant that I would have to pay $600. American Home Shield was covering the cost of the repair of the particular air conditioning, but not the Freon. I got someone to replace the Freon not only in that air conditioner, but my other unit, and they only charged me $300. So I ended up paying actually $300 less to get two air conditioners taken care of. Not only that, but they did the repair. The AHS people who came out didn't even do the repairs and they didn't put the Freon in there either. So they did nothing. I had another similar incident with that where I had to pay out of pocket on something that I submitted a claim on. I used to think American Home Shield was good, but the last few years, they have not fixed anything that I've called them about. It has been the last seven things that I've called for have not been covered. The last time the contractor came out they said it was the electric wiring to the pool lights. They've been out twice. What I found with American Home Shield was they work with the people that come out to fix our items. It's not like the contractor comes out and they give an unbiased opinion of what's wrong with whatever it is I called for. Because that time they came out, they said it wasn't covered, but that company could repair it for some amount, and they caught me without thinking about it. But they could repair it. I had somebody else come out, and it wasn't that at all.
They were out once before for the spa and looked at it. It was a woman and she left. She came back on my property without asking. She said that something about the water hadn't been consistently kept at the right chlorine and the other things that you have in your pool were not consistently at the right place. That ruined the spa heater, and it wouldn't be covered. I said, “Nobody keeps their pool chemicals exactly at the right place,” because after a week, they would be different. They would always be up and down. I have a pool service. But AHS didn't cover it because of that.
I went round and round with AHS about the stove. I have a four burner gas stove, and the contractor said it wouldn't be covered because it was due to wear and tear. There was some spill underneath, which I cleaned up, but it wasn't dirty. I fixed two of the burners myself by putting WD-40 on the part that you turn to turn it on, because they were tight. I left it, and kept pressing them up and down. I got them to work. There was also something with the oven and I fixed that myself as well because AHS said that wasn't covered.
If they said my stove couldn't be fixed, they should have paid for a new one. But they didn't want to give me any money towards the new one. I called and called, and they went round and round in circles with me. It was impossible to get anywhere with them. If it's obsolete or they couldn't get the parts for it, they had to pay me for a new one. But they wouldn't.
There was another thing with my hot water heater that went bad. I've asked AHS to send me a copy of my contract three times. I still haven't got one. I've given up now, I haven't asked for it for a while. Because I wanted to check this. They said that it wasn't covered because it was still under warranty. So I had to take that back, have somebody take that back to Home Depot and get a new one. But I had to pay for somebody to get rid of the hot water heater and bring a hot water heater from Home Depot to my house and put it in.

With one of my claims with AHS, it took me a while to get the money because they would not put in the right address. It took me six months to get the money ‘cause I had to call back and find out what was going on. A young lady found out what it was. It was a P.O. Box and they had to put everything together. They put PO and then Box. Then it had a period in there. She straightened it out and I finally got my money. Regarding contractors, some of them listen to you but some of them don't. Also, sometimes, some things cannot be repaired but they still wanna try to fix it. Then I'm gonna have the same problem again. They're good on some repairs, but some repairs, they're not.

Price Right came out fairly quickly. They came out after I called American Home Shield and made my claim asking for the dish disposal to be replaced because it wasn't working and wasn't resetting. The tech opened it up, cleaned it out, and then reset it and it fired back up. But it went down again within the next couple of days. I try not to create that back and forth situation, but they said once the ticket is open, they could come back within 90 days. So, he came back and took a look at it, but they didn't replace it. He went in and he said, "I think something happened in the blade." I know how to reset the dish disposal but ultimately, once it got past that day, I had to pay for it again.
I've had some not-so-good experiences with Home Shield like with my water heater that's rusted at the bottom. It really does need to be replaced. Home Shield was like, "That's fine." The company that came out to do it said they wanted me to pay for the pan that goes underneath it because the pan didn't come with the unit and I was like, "Okay." And they said Home Shield wouldn't cover the pan, but the pan is required by law to be underneath there. Home Shield will only cover the unit and not the pan. So I was like, "Okay, that's cool. Not a problem." But then they said they couldn't install the unit because they needed to lift the entire AC system up so they could put the new water tank in and Home Shield would not cover the other part. I was just like, "Okay." I can't replace my water heater right now because that's so costly.
The AC is covered, so I need another claim. They weren't clear on how to resolve the issue because the unit does need to be lifted. The AC unit does need to be lifted and it could possibly cause damage as well as we've had other issues in the house with the AC unit. So why not just use that as an opportunity to have both done at the same time, lift it, and the other one and this can come on and do that and I was gonna pay for the pan. And if there was anything extra with the AC, I would've paid that too. But to pay for that, it's almost like a $10,000 job, which is crazy. So Overall, I pay for Home Shield, but I can't always use it. It's not always beneficial to use it.
Overall, Home Shield is not horrible. They just need to choose better vendors. They did a great job of replacing my refrigerator. It has an ice machine to it and a water machine to it. The people came, just plugged the refrigerator up, replaced the stove, and left. They never connected the hoses and the ice tray. So, I got a refrigerator that has two things on that don't work. I'm gonna try to call them back to fix it. Home Shield said I need to call the vendor. The vendor never answered the phone. They did not return my phone call ever. So, to this day, I have a refrigerator that does not fully work. So, Home Shield is good as far as responding and getting the people out. I just think they need to choose better vendors to take care of this stuff.

One of the breakers in the house tripped and the tech did the repair. I was satisfied with him. They also got there in the time that they said they were gonna get there and assessed the situation. They were professional. I've been protected with AHS for three years now and I have four other homes that I have covered on it as well. I like the ease of placing the claim, and them assigning the professionals and just paying my deductible, also the minimal out of pocket expense, other than the deductible. They've done a done a good job thus far.

I applied for an AC claim online but it didn't go through. Then, I didn't pay cash or put it on credit card. I talked to the lady at AHS and she asked if I had any other way to pay, like credit card or checking account. I told her no and that was it. Other than that, I had a tech out and he was good. I was also sent a quote of my portion of the repair.

We've been with American Home Shield for over seven years and we’ve paid over $10,000. Right now, we have an issue with a faucet and they wanna replace my faucet with a cheap chrome-colored faucet and I'm highly disappointed. We've been back and forth with them for over five days now so we’re having to truck in water from another sink to our kitchen so we can wash dishes.
Not only are the people at American Home Shield difficult to understand, but you can also call about the same issue three times, and every single time that you contact somebody there, you get a different explanation. So, I’m leaving American Home Shield. I'm not happy with them. We just got off the phone with another warranty company and we’re gonna be jumping over. In the future, I will not recommend American Home Shield to any of my family members or anybody that I know and using social media, I will post my displeasure. Maybe one of their representatives who's a supervisor or manager with the company would love to call me. I would love to have their ear for a whole two minutes.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

My most recent claim was not a good experience. The issue with American Home Shield and Air Majesty in this case was that there was a delay in ordering parts or a delay in communication with the folks that needed to do the work that was necessary on the air conditioning. The customer service experience with AHS was okay, but the issue is their communication to the service provider. Sometimes when they say, "Oh, we're gonna follow up and have the service provider call you," it doesn't always work out. While it worked out in the end, it was a long experience in terms of timing to get the air conditioner fixed.

I tell everybody about American Home Shield. It came when we bought the house and we renewed it every year. It's not the newest house, so we're having issues with things here and there. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind that I don't have to work on the house or learn how to fix something off of YouTube. I could call them and the claim would get done. There was one time when our hot water heater went out and it took about a week to get a PO for the new hot water heater. I was having to send my kids to other people's houses to take showers. Other than that, I've never had a problem with American Home Shield. The people they send are normally knowledgeable, do what they need to do, and fix what they need to fix.

I was not satisfied with the service I received from the electrician that American Home Shield sent out. He made the issue worse. I wound up having the work done myself by a local electrician not through American Home Shield because my option was to call in another electrician who was not gonna be familiar with this area, and if he agreed with the first electrician, then I was gonna be on the hook for the cost of materials. The cost of materials for that job would have been in the thousands, whereas my electrician locally did it in compliance with code for 300 bucks. I'm upset about that last event and after that experience, I started shopping other home warranties. I've been an American Home Shield customer for a very long time. This was my first dissatisfaction with them, but it was a substantial one. They got an earful of my feedback but it did not make a bit of difference.

I had good luck with American Home Shield up until this latest claim. I called in February. The problem was my furnace. The only way it would come on was I'd have turned the electricity off back on. It's a gas furnace, but it has electricity too, and I had to keep flipping the switch off and on. So, they came and they said some of the part was wrong with it. They didn't fix it. It was a panel they said they need to put in. Then they told me that there was something else that had to be done. They had to replace some wires. I forgot what else they did. But then that didn't fix it either. So, then when the guy came back the third time, he said that what was going on was that the little door that opens and closes that has to be closed before the furnace will come on wasn't closing. So, he said he would order the parts. And then as soon as they got it, they’d put it in.
In April, I got a message that said, “Part was ordered.” But it was on backorder. I never did hear back from them again. So, I talked to the owner of Billy's AC. He said, “Well, I've got a message that it has been shipped.” I still have not heard anything from them. I don't need my furnace right now, but I will be needing it later this year. American Home Shield's reps gave fast service. The very day that I asked for service, they told me that it would be Billy's AC and that they would call me. But the last time that I have spoken with people in American Home Shield was on July 3rd, and the person I talked to said that he’d check into it. I haven't heard anything back from them either.
I did have a problem with this same company once before. My air conditioner went out. And it was during the summertime, which was the hottest part of the summer later on. It took seven weeks to get them to put that in here. I couldn't even stay at home. I recently had to have service done on my refrigerator. The guy came and checked it. He ordered the parts. A week later, it was fixed. I've never had any problem with anybody except with Billy's AC.

I'm having a hard time getting service. A lot of times, it's more aggravation than it's worth. My most recent claim was in March and it's still not resolved. American Home Shield assigned six contractors, none of which showed up for several months. They kept reassigning different contractors. Twice they reassigned the same contractor that never showed up. Then they finally authorized an outside service company who told them that it couldn't be fixed. Now I'm still waiting and it's almost four months now.
American Home Shield has very bad customer service. Everybody's nice but nothing gets done. You have to call six times about the same thing. They have great scripts, and they empathize with you, but they have no authority. When they say they're gonna follow up, it takes many phone calls to get anything done. They tell they’re gonna do something but you never can reach out and talk to the same person again. Nobody has a phone number or an email. I've called dozens of times about these appliances. It’s this company's policy to stretch things out and not to take care of things. A lot of times, it takes months and tons of calls to get things resolved. If you don't follow up, nobody there does anything. They have very poor contractors in this area. They're not competent. They only work for American Home Shield and tend to not respond to the customer at all.
I’ve had very poor experiences with the way the contractors have been vetted. I've had contractors come and put the wrong part in the dishwasher and leaked on the floor. You can't get anybody on the phone for another two weeks to come back. That guy refused to come back, so American Home Shield sent another party. Eventually, they replaced it but that took several months. Somebody needs to do a much better job vetting their contractors. None of the contractors tend to have any outside business that I've experienced in my area so they don't have any ratings.

I have a claim with American Home Shield that's been open since the middle of June. I went out of the country for two and a half weeks in the middle of it so they couldn't come back until after I returned. Then I had to wait to get another appointment. I got back right before the 4th of July so there was a short week. But they've been very good about giving me returns when the thing isn't working. The repair people haven't figured out what is wrong with it. They've replaced a couple of parts and it seems to be working but by the next day it's not. The worker who comes out here answers any questions I have and tries to explain and show me everything.
This is the first time I've had to have a callback, that somebody hasn't been able to figure out which part it is that isn't working. I've had several claims with American Home Shield and I've had no problem with any of them. When I had a garbage disposal that wasn't working, they replaced it that day. I had a condenser on a refrigerator go out and they had to order the part. Then they came back in and repaired it. I'm very happy with American Home Shield, and I'm going to keep them as long as they'll let me.

My most recent claim was to fix my air conditioner. They scheduled a technician but before the technician would arrive, they kept canceling it and they wouldn't tell me anything about it. I was calling up the technician and yelling at them and it wasn't their fault. It was that American Home Shield kept denying the claim. I ended up having to get a loan and replace the unit on my own. I dropped American Home Shield when they did that and they didn't offer anything for me to stay. It was just an overall bad experience with them. I had them since I purchased in 2017 and I felt that they did not treat me as a loyal customer. The contract was worded so that I didn't see that I wasn't getting the coverage like I thought I was.

30 years ago when we purchased our first house in Florida, our neighbor suggested getting American Home Shield and we did. We've been with them ever since. Submitting claims is easy to do. We used to call in and now, we do it online and it's quick and easy. The response time from the vendor who comes to repair the situation has been very quick, within 24 hours. Sometimes, for them to fix the situation might take longer based on what it was or getting the parts could be a problem sometimes. But as far as the people that has come and done the repairs, we have no complaints. They've done a great job and they stand behind their product.
We had an upstairs air conditioning that went out and in Mississippi during the summertime, that's not a good thing. It took two and a half weeks to get the AC put in, but it wasn't American Home Shield's fault. Once it arrived, they called and I told them that I had to be out of the house by 1 o'clock for a doctor's appointment that I could not miss. They showed up at 11 o'clock and they were done by 12:30. They did a great job and they were very professional. They got it working and cleaned up after themselves.
Also, we had a microwave replaced. It went out and wouldn't work anymore. I called them up, told them about it, and told them what model number we had. Two days later, the contractor came out and installed a new one -- exactly like what we had. We haven't called American Home Shield for a lot of things, but when we have a big ticket item such as a dishwasher or stove or AC unit or heating unit, it's very helpful to have them. What I had to pay out of pocket was $100 service fee and $1,600 for parts and labor that was not included in the warranty and if I didn't have American Home Shield, to get the same AC unit installed would have cost me $6,500. American Home Shield saves you money and it's a good product to have.

They put a covering over the shower basin and he said that the water leak that was coming out of the shower was just some residual water. Then, just last week, there was an air condition problem with a motor and a surge had blown the motor and control board. That service was pretty good and I was satisfied with. It took three months for AHS to come out and fix the refrigerator and then they didn't fix it right. There were three parts that needed to be replaced on it. The initial contact was in March and they didn't complete it. They left the house a mess and there was water all over the floor. They put in the unit backwards, upside down for the shelving so we couldn't get the shelving. It was an awful experience. Supposedly, they had the parts and they were gonna expedite it but they didn't expedite it. Also, the tech was terrible. He didn't even order all the pieces timely. He waited a month and then did it week by week.
It was terribly handled and I'm very disappointed. We were trying to get information and AHS kept on transferring me to another person, another department. I called to cancel and the rep didn't complete the cancellation when I told him. I said that I was not gonna renew. Why would I renew when it takes three months to get a refrigerator fixed? They keep on emailing me and texting that I'm overdue on my payments. They aren't following through with anything.

Some of the customer service people from American Home Shield are really good, but some flat out suck. Some other people were helpful too. However, I would get a different answer almost every time from a different person. They state one thing, then next time I call and talk to them, it was something completely different or "We can't find this information in the system." It was a nightmare.
I had a service request for an air conditioning unit, and it took just over 30 days to finally resolve the issue. It took 10 days for a blow motor, and a blade. That didn't fix the problem, then the contractor decided the unit itself had to be replaced. That was an additional three weeks, and the amount they wanted me to pay out of pocket was ridiculous. It was too expensive. American Home Shield gives a cash buyout or I could go with the vendor they use, but it was almost gonna be $5,000 just for the labor. It wasn't a very good experience. I wasn't there at the time. I had somebody else there, but I spoke with the contractor and he went over everything with me. I said, "Hey, this is the third time you guys are out. And now you guys are giving a completely different diagnostic of this. Now, the whole unit needs to be replaced according to you guys." It was a very frustrating thing to deal with with these people.
The problem was, it was such a miscommunication between American Home Shield and the vendor. It got really ugly for weeks. They went back and forth, and here I was stuck in the middle with no ac. All I have been able to do so far is have a window ac to circulate the air through the living room and the kitchen. I'll probably end up switching from them at the end of the year when my contract's up.

I pay the service fee, technicians come out, and they fix or replace whatever needs to be done. This last time, I had problems with my AC and things that were beyond my control. I have a yard man that comes out and they said that some wires were cut by a weed eater. I had to replace that. Someone had bypass the internal switch. I'm not an electrician. Any time that unit was serviced, it was serviced by someone else. And I don't know how to go behind technicians and check and see whether or not they're doing their work right. American Home Shield said they weren’t gonna cover the warranty because that was considered user misuse. I was like, “I had nothing to do with either of those problems.” So, they will not pay to get my AC fixed. I had to get a new one.

My most recent claim was my refrigerator and I had fits with that. I've never had problems with American Home Shield the way I have had with my refrigerator. I've had several things break down over the past three months and everything has been fixed properly up until the issue with the refrigerator. It took a month. AHS subcontracted it out to Sears and they ordered the parts. It took a month for the parts to come in. So, I was without a reliable refrigerator for over a month. I would blow up on the people that I talked to on the phone because I got tired of having to deal with the issue with the refrigerator.
The first time that they scheduled a technician to come out because the parts came in after me waiting for a month, the technician didn't show up. No call, no show. I was perturbed with that also. There were several times that I had to call Sears to find out was going on because I would have things scheduled and somebody wouldn't show up or something would always come up. I called AHS and they got somebody to come out and he repaired it and there was still something else wrong with it. So, he had to order some more parts. May 29th was when I put that request in for my refrigerator to be fixed. The tech finally came out and got the rest of the parts in. Today was the day it got fixed. The tech seemed was a decent fellow. He has the personality of a rock. But he came in, did his job and got out of there.

I have a claim with the water heater and the plumber quoted all the city permits that we didn't have to pay before when we had to get it replaced. So we don't know what we're paying for out of pocket, which is a lot. That's frustrating. I asked for a second opinion and American Home Shield said they couldn't have a second opinion because the water heater couldn't be fixed. So we just had to settle for the quote that we got. American Home Shield covers the water heater, the labor, and the disposal. But now they're adding $1,000 worth of city permits.

A contractor came out and changed a garbage disposal for me. Recently, I called American Home Shield for my AC unit that went out. After a few days, Crispy Air came out. The repairman was up there on the roof a few minutes. Then he came down and told me that I had a blown condenser, that he would have to check with American Home Shield and that I would be responsible for almost $2,000 for a condenser and 8 pounds of R-22 Freon. Every time they came, they charged me 8 pounds. But I was told it was only 6 pounds.
My unit was from 1983. I had replaced some part on it in 2019 and the AC twice a few years before. I have been paying American Home Shield for 29 years and I thought for sure they would replace my unit, but they would not. They just nickel-and-dime things and keep repairing. I called and ran to all kinds of places, but I couldn't find a condenser for less than $1,000. They're only paying me $455, which I still have yet to receive a check and I've been waiting since June.
I found another company and now have a new unit up there, which I ended up having to put on my credit card. I’m disappointed and I don't even know if I'm gonna keep American Home Shield. They're not honest. Every time I see their advertisement, they say if they can’t fix it, they'll replace it. They always manage to fix it, like my 1983 unit. That's ridiculous. It is banned in the United States of America, but it's okay to keep putting in R-22 Freon and losing it in the air. I cannot go buy an R-22 Freon. It's against the law. But a licensed electrical person still has access to it.

American Home Shield has been helpful. They've done what they're supposed to do. Appliances Inc. came May 2nd for the dryer. A bearing was going out and the guy that fixed it did a great job. A couple of years ago, we had the water heater replaced. Farren Plumbing came out and listed everything they were gonna do. They were gonna put new straps on, new water heater, and an expansion tank. Then they came out, took the water heater out, put the new water heater in but used all my old parts. The guy had it listed in his cost and I had to pay him $100 on top. They'll never come around me again. I followed up on that water heater issue 'cause I was really upset but nobody followed up with me.

My son bought a house and he had a 40-year-old furnace in it. It came with the American Home Shield warranty and about a week after he bought the house, the furnace stopped working. They bought him a new furnace and that was the kind of warranty that I wanted to have. So, I bought one immediately after that. So far, I've mostly good experiences with AHS. I recently had a big claim for my refrigerator because the compressor went on it. The refrigerator has been working perfectly since the repair but it took a month for the parts to come in. When you don't have a refrigerator, that's a long time. But it was not American Home Shield's fault. The repair guy told me that a lot of these compressors are going and they were on backorder. He also told me it was going to be a while and they had a hard time getting the parts in.
Also, AHS should improve their customer service on the phone because it's really hard to get ahold of anybody and to get a person on the line that speaks English is almost impossible. I'm very frustrated with all of that because I really like to call and talk to a person. And I hate the fact that you can't do that with them. There's no number to call and talk. And if you do try to call, it goes to a different country and that person barely speaks English. And I've had them where they're rude to you. When you can call back and you get the same person, it's still in another country. When you ask for a supervisor, they tell you that they are the supervisor. And you ask to speak to somebody that can speak English and they tell you that they are speaking English when they're really not.
Other than that, the contractors have been great and I've not had one contractor that I didn't like. They're usually local people and they're nice. I had one bad experience with them when the techs kept coming out for my dishwasher and they weren't really fixing it. That was really frustrating for me. But AHS finally replaced it because if the techs come out three times and something is still not fixed, then they replace it. AHS has been great and I would recommend them to anybody because they take care of you. So far, I've had electrical and plumbing work done, then they replaced my washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator. I've really had good luck with them and every year, the cost of whatever I had fixed or replaced was always more than what I paid in that year.

When something happens, it's convenient to have American Home Shield and have them get somebody to come fix whatever issue is happening. Recently, something was not working on the AC. So, the techs came and fixed it. But it took them at least three days to get here. The techs that AHS send out are good but I have another warranty in Mesa and the first experience I had there was not good. The first guy who came out didn't know what he was doing and when he got there, he was talking to his girlfriend on the phone. He was bitchy and wasn't professional. Also, he kept saying that he was on his way and he got there late. Then, he didn't fix anything so we wasted my time. He was from Carlos Mechanic Plumbing and that agency ended up sending somebody else.
I had to come back when the second guy came out and he fixed the issue quickly. He knew what he was doing. AHS should make sure that they get good people and that if I call for AC, the service should be on the same day, not three days. Aside from that, they're bringing up their prices and I'm thinking of changing to somewhere else. They have to take care of their old customers.

They were there yesterday to clean some stuff up.
I have had a bit of frustration with AHS with the contractors in the past that they sent out. I had a problem with my garage door opener, and there were two people that came out, but neither one of them made the effort to figure out what it was. I ended up getting a different someone who wasn't associated with them, and they found out right away what was wrong and replaced the garage door opener, which I paid for. I didn't wanna deal with AHS anymore. When they tell me how much money they would give me for a certain thing, they weren't clear about how that money was spent and where it would go. Also, it took them 14 days to tell me that they couldn't find anybody. It got prolonged so long. That was a bit irritating on top of having to spend more money to do that. My most recent experience with American Home Shield wasn't that great. My husband woke up one morning, and we had a massive leak in my bathroom. There was water all over my bathroom floor to where his socks were completely soaked when he walked into our bathroom. We called it in to American Home Shield and it was a whole day ordeal to get somebody to come out here on an emergency work order to prevent my floor from being damaged.
When the worker came out here, he was rude. He told us that we were lying, that there was no leak. He changed the ring then left. He could have been more polite. I wouldn't pay $100 and waste a whole day trying to get somebody to come out for nothing. My neighbor fixed the issue for us. He put a new line on it. Other than that, we've always had great service with American Home Shield. We've had good contractors other than that. I had some plumbing concerns and submitting the claim was fine. It was relatively straightforward and easy. I did it over the phone with the automated system. But it was not a positive experience with the contractor. They came out, walked around the house, and told me I didn't have a clean outlet for him to be able to clear the blockage without having to pull the toilet. It was gonna be an additional cost of $475. I informed him I do have a plain outlet drain but he couldn't find it and there was nothing else he could do unless I paid $475. He wrote it up that I needed a clean outlet and it was gonna cost $1,800. I had to dispute that with American Home Shield. I got it fixed eventually but not through them. I called my own plumber to come out and find the clean outlet. They found it in less than five minutes and cleared the stoppage.
The experience having this home warranty is very touch and go. If it's something simple that's not costly to repair, it's a pretty straightforward process and there's no problem. I had an issue with my doorbell and they had someone come out and replaced it. It wasn't a problem. But when it comes to issues such as plumbing and things along those lines, it's a lot more difficult to get a good contractor to do the work or for American Home Show to even approve. You would think it's in the contract, but the contract is very vague. They find a lot of loopholes to not have to cover what you would logically expect to be covered.

Also, there were times when AHS didn't want to respond. They don't like to replace things. They want to fix things. Sometimes, that's not the best choice. Not that I expect to have a brand new everything, but when something needs to be replaced, it needs to be replaced. Even the repairman would tell me they don't like to replace things. So, they would stick it back together as long as they could say it's working and I may have to turn around and call them again to come out, because now it would truly ready to be replaced. My experience has not been wonderful, but not overly terrible. What I don't like is the not being able to get answers about the status. And if American Home Shield needed to replace something, the equivalent is not equal. But in general, they're responsive when it comes to putting in a request for service and dispatching a vendor. It's just that my experience so far has been lengthy. And having to speak to a manager versus being able to get decent information from the that first line of call center agent.
The most recent was my refrigerator. AHS said they could not replace the ice maker, so they paid me to replace the refrigerator, which I did. But the ice maker went out again. I called Sears since it's a Kenmore. And they still have not replaced the ice maker. AHS said they couldn't get the parts, so when it went out again, I called Sears. It was outside of their thing. But they continued my plan in June. I had a repair for my washer. It made this weird noise, and that was in April of last year. AHS was quick with the repair and I haven't had any problems since.

We had the AC replaced last year and the company that installed it also installed a thermostat. Then, we had a program here in the local area where they gave a free smart thermostat so we installed that. We had that installed by an electrician that was provided by the power company. During that time, we didn't need to use the AC yet so for a couple of weeks, everything was just fine. But when we turned the AC on, we realized that it would only blow warm air, which certainly is not great for an AC unit.
We opened the claim with American Home Shield to see what was going on and they sent Experts Heating & Cooling. The way that they communicated was straightforward and they gave us an explanation of what the problem was. The thermostat, during a power outage, reset itself and because of that, there's a key setting to set it to heat pump or regular. Our AC is a heat pump AC but the thermostat switched back to regular, which then caused the air conditioning unit to reverse from what it was supposed to do. The unit completely overheated and this big fan that is in the AC unit outside kind of got stuck because of that.
The AC company decided that it was not fixable, that the fan was so stuck that the compressor was broken, and it needed to be replaced. That would be a $2,000 charge for us because that would not be covered by the home insurance company and we were not too thrilled with that since we knew the unit was not that old yet.
We decided to reach out to the company that did install the unit in the first place and they came out and checked everything themselves. They determined that even the AC company didn't wire it correctly for the right settings. The company that we originally worked with was able to get the AC unit to work again. They said that because of the way that this problem occurred, it certainly would take a toll on the lifespan of the AC unit but they were able to get it back in working shape without replacing a $2,000 compressor. After we learned that the unit was still fixable, I got the feeling that they didn't put a lot of effort into trying to fix the AC unit. But I felt as if they tried to upsell me to use their services to make some more money on the side versus what they get from the home warranty company.
Overall, we have been very satisfied with American Home Shield. This was not the first claim we opened and the other claims were dealt with much better. Their portal to open claims and keep track of them was much more basic, the pricing structure and the deductible is something I prefer over other warranty companies I worked with before, and the time to respond to a claim I open is also pretty fast. If you own a home that's a little older, a home warranty company like American Home Shield is a great way to take care of unexpected issues. We felt that we saved money with them based on the number of jobs and the scope of the things they had to cover.

My dishwasher claim started out that American Home Shield would replace just a harness and it would last for a little over 30 days. The company that I had that came to do it wouldn't honor it. So, I would have to pay another $100 to have somebody come out, replace the harness again. I ended up with Sears. They got all confused. They figured out that replacing the harness and parts wouldn't work. They finally convinced AHS that the machine wouldn't read the newer replacement parts. So, they had to replace the entire dishwasher. It was six visits.
They introduced a new system themselves. The person that would come to do the work was great, and would apologize profoundly. But they couldn't figure out. They would ship the parts, and there was no address on it. The parts were supposed to go to a drop box. They put half my address on it. So, it would be returned. That happened three times.
I had a problem with one call-in, because I had all five parts, and I knew I could look at the screen and see that they were doing duplicate orders for these parts. The girl on the phone said, “They say that you need 10 parts and you don't have them all.” I said, “I only needed five. The man told me he was ordering five parts.” And she just thoroughly insisted that I had to wait until all 10 parts came. Sears finally got ahold of me and asked, “Do you have the parts?” I said, “Yes, I do.” The dishwasher now works fine.

I had an ice maker go out over a year ago in my refrigerator. I can't tell how many different people American Home Shield sent out. Dave Taylor was the second to the last one, and they came a few times. They came out, the fridge would work for one load of ice, and stop. It was the same thing with everybody. But initially, when it went out, Dave Taylor came on July 19th, a year ago, to service it. It was always the same thing. Whoever came, AHS provided them with the parts and they replaced the ice maker. They would come out, work on it. The last time they came out, the rep said, "I think AHS should replace the ice maker. There's something wrong with it, if it doesn't work like that, electronically or something." I didn't hear from AHS. I kept calling them.
I got a call from some woman. She said, "We have this thing called Luxury Appliance. The guy who works in California and Nevada, we can send them out. Name's Vladimir." He came out and said, "You either need a control panel or a new ice maker." When he came back from Mexico, he called and said, "I've got the part. They authorized an ice maker." He came over to install the ice maker. When he took the old one out, he said, "The other one was not a factory ice maker. That's why it didn't work." And I Dave thought the same thing. It took a year to get it fixed.
I blame AHS, wasting a lot of time. The different people they sent out, AHS said, "They're ordering the parts." I asked them, "How can you order the parts when you don't know what the problem is?" I read online that they have some weird way. Because the first couple of years I had them, they were okay. I didn't renew this year because it was such a nightmare. It's not worth my time to go through a different provider each time. It didn't make sense. I've told them that a couple of times. But I would get a lot of people there. They would say, "We don't know anything." It's too bad. I would go without a warranty for now.

He had come and did work on my refrigerator and my washer prior. I have to purchase a new one because the guy said between purchasing a new one and having this one repaired, he insinuated that the best thing to do is to buy a new one. I also had some plumbing issues that was never corrected because they said it was not within their by-laws.
The price started out at about 60 bucks and the last time they charged me was like 110. Every time I turned around, it was going up and I went ahead and played along with it thinking that if something happens, they would correct it. But AHS reneged on their deal. I was with them for almost 10 years and it didn't bother them to take my money every month. But when I came back to collect on something, they kind of said, "Oh, no, no. You got it wrong."

The price is high, but we've been with them a few years, so we've seen the impact of inflation.

I wasn't happy with American Home Shield on this last go around. They contracted with Sears to come out to help me. Sears came out but didn't fix the issue. There were several re-attempts for them to come back out but they did not show up. They have a huge window of you needing to stay home from 8 to 5 o'clock waiting for them to show up. After two times of them missing their appointment, that becomes even more disgusting.
American Home Shield has foreigners answering the phone calls who their best to try to help you, but they can't. I was asking for a supervisor but was getting pushed back. I spent hours fussing with them trying to get somebody to help me. I finally got them to send me a lady who could help, but she decided to cancel the appointment with Sears for the next day, so I had to wait two weeks longer. I was able to text a video of the problem with my refrigerator, and they said they gotta order a part. I spent about 2.5 months without a refrigerator that worked. The new agency that came out fixed it but it was an act of congress to get American Home Shield to switch me to a new agency. I was told many times they couldn't switch providers. Also they just went up on me with their price, and I'm not happy about that either.

I've had this coverage even before I relocated from New Jersey to South Carolina. I've been in South Carolina almost 18 years. American Home Shield always worked for me. Even when I moved here, they covered the pool. I didn't even realize they covered some pipes as far as plumbing. That helped me a lot because I was ready to call a plumber and spend a lot of money. I like it. I hear other people complaining about certain amount of money they don't cover. I didn't care for how it would go up and up. And the contractors are not worth much to me. So, my thing is, if they increase my price, why don't I get better quality contractors? The contractors are not up to par like I've experienced in the past.
I have two friends who got rid of AHS because one got dissatisfied dealing with them on replacing her stove. I explained to her that my experience has been good. And the amount of money I have to come out with in terms of the difference in what you AHS covers and what me as a consumer had to pay it, it still saved me a lot of money compared to me not having the warranty program at all. My pool is covered and the wear and tear of the motor. The pump was replaced and I didn't have to come out of my pocket. My dishwasher, same thing. They gave me an equivalent. I had to put a couple of dollars to it, and I was able to upgrade to the stainless steel.
The contractor himself was fine. It's just the way it's all set up through AHS. I have to wait. The day they were supposed to come, they gave me a window. I waited and waited. Nobody called me, said nothing. No common courtesy call. I called back. I couldn't get them. I remember getting pissed off. I cancelled an appointment for it because I needed my clothes dry at work. I waited all day but no one called me to say they would come tomorrow or the next day. So, I don't like dealing with them. They finally came out, and it was the same issue with my clothes dryer. There was some piece of component that doesn't dry it, and they had to replace it. It has been replaced a lot of times through the years. It's working now. Something about the piece blew out.

I had an air conditioner issue and the first company AHS sent out was unprofessional. I told them I had an air conditioner issue and it was really hot out here and they said they could get somebody out here the next Monday. I asked if they couldn’t get anybody to come out earlier and they said, “If you need somebody else, you can get somebody else to come out.” I took Monday and when they came out, they were just really unprofessional. They said I needed two parts replaced and he said he had to take them to the office. They came back and said they would send somebody else out because they didn't think I needed both parts replaced. They sent somebody else out and I asked if the unit would work like normal if they replaced this one part and the tech said yes. They replaced the part and in less than a month, something happened and my air conditioner pipe started to freeze.
I had to turn off my entire AC unit and that went haywire. My house was hot and I had to put fans and window units in and they said they'd get somebody else out here to see what the issue was. The tech looked at the unit and said he'd try to fix it one way. He cleaned something off and he did something and so far, I haven't had any issues.

The last claim I had was for the icemaker on my refrigerator. The company that they had come out here had to order parts, which they said was gonna be a week but the parts took about three weeks to get in. I had to call them and ask them. Then, they sent a young kid who didn't know what he was doing. He told me it was gonna take 24 hours for the icemaker to start working but it still didn't start working. After two days, I called them to send someone out here to fix it and they got my manual out and realized that the doofus kid had left the icemaker off. Once I turned it on, it started working again.

I put in the claim to American Home Shield for the pool back in May and after I called and called, the tech came and looked at my pump. But he didn’t think anything was wrong with it. The problem was that the pool pump wasn't sucking hard enough and he said he thought it was. But I've had that pool for many years and it's not. Previously, if I went to the pump, I could not pull the bucket out because the suction would be so hard. But now, I can reach in and pull the bucket right out. He said that as long as the pump was sucking water through it, it was fine. But it’s still not up to par.

I wish there were negative stars for this terrible company. AHS is beyond awful. We have 19 contracts with them, and they have been nothing but a nightmare. We had an AC issue, and they sent a vendor to check it out. After the technician left, the AC started leaking, flooding the first floor and ruining our carpets. Despite calling them multiple times, they told me they don't cover the AC issue. If I want them to send someone to address the leak they caused, I must pay again and wait up to 48 hours. To make matters worse, the representative was extremely disrespectful, talking over me and showing no understanding of the urgency they caused. This entire experience has been completely unacceptable and incredibly frustrating.

We had a warranty with our first home that we purchased in 1999 and it was with American Home Shield. We've had good and bad experiences with them. There are times where we have to call back and try to get a different person to get the answer we need because somebody is not able to answer. We have a claim right now that we had to have a recall appointment on an air conditioning unit. But we haven't heard from the company yet and it's been three days.
Our prices keep going up but the companies that come out have not improved. We have one contractor that we do not allow back into any of our homes. They broke the AC unit that they put in and damaged my home. They were gonna come back to fix it but they ghosted us. They quit answering our phone calls, texts, and emails. The AC unit leaked after they put it in and the paint on the wall was coming off. They didn't have to buy anything. They just had to have somebody come paint it. I've told American Home Shield about it but they still try to send that company out to us. They keep telling us they're gonna note it, but I don't think they do.

It turns out our air conditioning unit was not defective. They sent somebody out here who looked at it and told me it was all okay. That part was good. However, I've gotten word from two different HVAC contractors that there's no way in the world that American Home Shield is gonna pay to replace my unit when it finally goes bad. They were honestly telling me what their experience has been with American Home Shield, that the home warranty company does not replace major expensive items. They do everything they can to do minor repairs or whatever it takes to keep the equipment operating. I haven't asked American Home Shield to replace my unit, but it sounds like it's not gonna happen.

Last year, I had a big problem with my air conditioner, and it was caused by lightning. The fan motor went bad in the air conditioner unit. It cost about $2,000 and Home Shield didn't pay for it because they said it was an act of God. That was my disappointment right then 'cause we didn't have that money. This year, I went in to American Home Shield and told them my air conditioner was not cooling like it was supposed to. It was easy. They told me who was gonna be coming and when they were gonna come. When the repair person came out, he was on the ball, doing the job he was supposed to do, and he was very personable. He came out and looked at the problem, then he was back to the front door within 10 minutes max and said what the problem was.
The issue was due to a relay that told the heat strip to cut off when the air conditioner was on. While the air conditioner was on, the heat strip was coming on for the central heat too. That's why it was never cooling. So it saved us a lot of money. I highly recommend American Home Shield, and I have recommended them to several people, namely my daughter. However, her husband's an electrical engineer, so he doesn't think he needs anybody.

Between two houses we own, we've had American Home Shield for seven years, and over the years, we've had a very good experience with them. Our recent claim was on a refrigerator. It was a difficult situation 'cause the refrigerator was old and there were still parts available for it. It took a couple of months to get through the whole process of determining that the refrigerator was no longer repairable. However, once that process was completed and American Home Shield was able to verify that the refrigerator was not repairable, then they went through the process of replacing it. They did a good job with that.

I would not recommend Speedy Air and Heat. They told me they were gonna order a different part for the icemaker. Then they turned around, ended the claim with American Home Shield and told them it was finished. I was waiting for the part for about a month. When I contacted them again, that was when they told me the claim was closed.
I called American Home Shield and they sent out a different company who solved the problem. I was out of town when they were gonna come in, so my neighbor handled it. They told me that they would coordinate with the neighbor, which they did beautifully. They wanted the refrigerator turned off for at least 24 hours before they installed the part that they were installing. It worked out really well with the second company and I was very happy with American Home Shield. This was the second thing that they came out for and I was very pleased with both products in the end. The price is very reasonable. I pay monthly but it's a low cost, and it covers all my appliances which is wonderful because if all of them went out at once, I would be in trouble. As it turns out, paying American Home Shield makes it possible for me to keep them up.

I don't like the fact that American Home Shield argues a lot with you when you call to make a claim. Recently, I made a claim for the air conditioning unit. A guy came out but didn't fix it. I called back and they told me I was gonna have to pay again to have someone come out and look at it even though the person they sent didn't fix it because they said it only lasts for 30 days. I told them it was never fixed but they didn't wanna hear about that. We had to pay to have someone else come out to try and fix it. Another thing that irritates me is they just read their script over and over. I wouldn't have a home warranty if I needed to go through different contractors every time a repairperson wouldn't fix it. I would just go to the Yellow Pages and do it myself.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield to fix a burner on a stovetop. A contractor came, assessed the burner, and told me it would take a week or two for the part to come in. I had to call them to keep checking to see if it came in and they realized it was there. It came in a little bit earlier than expected and they were able to schedule me quickly once they knew the product was in their possession. It was the same person that installed it and fixed it, and he was nice. However, I'm not too sure if I will keep American Home Shield next year because the copay for the appointments is a bit high. A case in point is the stovetop burner. We paid 100 bucks and the part was 20 bucks. I like it and as a female, I'm not gonna be the one to take apart a stove or a washer. But pricewise, paying the $600 for a year then $100 each copay on top of that is high.

We bought American Home Shield when we purchased the house. We've been in the house for seven years going on eight and we've maintained it ever since. It's peace of mind. There are things that aren't covered by regular insurance and American Home Shield allows us to budget an expense on a month-to-month basis. If something big comes up, we know that the majority of that expense has already been taken care of. They've also got good contractors that they work with and reasonable rate.
Whenever I file a claim with American Home Shield, I hear back by the end of day via text that it's been assigned and we should hear back from the vendor that's taking care of the service within 24 hours after that point. We have had service to plumbing, heating, ventilation, appliances, and every one of them has been very professional, kept the area clean, and honest. They've been very open and advising if a repair made sense and how long the repair would last. When we had our refrigerator replaced, the repairman said, "I can repair this, but it's only a fifty-fifty shot that it will solve the problem." We talked more about it and it made more sense for us to replace the unit versus the odds of having a repair not working and the expense of the repair and all the food that we had to throw out. Recently, we had a clog that was deep that was creating a backup of water whenever the dishwasher ran. The plumber snaked through and corrected the issue.

The repair person who came told me that the last unit that was installed was too small and that's why it broke. He was able to get me the right sized compressor which cools my entire house. It was a beautiful thing. American Home Shield has replaced washing machines, dryers, air conditioner compressors, an air handler, a furnace, and a refrigerator for me. My experience with American Home Shield is good. I even tell the tech where the key is and I don't even have to be at home. That was how trusted he was. He would say he was there and I’d see him working. I have cameras and he's gone in 30 minutes and he's good. On the last claim I had with the air conditioner, it was hot again and I spent $400 on fans just to sleep. This is the third time and it was the capacitor. The tech took care of it and was gone. But before that, it went bad again a little over a month and that left a sour taste in my mouth. Every time, I have to put out $100 plus $89 a month. Everyone has a time limit on a 30-day thing but if after 36 days it's broken and I have to find $100, which we all don't have, it's hard. While working on it, they should know that part is going bad in 30 days.

My last claim was good. It was worth it, and I’d be needing the service again for another issue. However, I have to find out if Home Shield covers another thing that's not broken. It's more of a service request and I don’t know how that works. Other than that, Home Shield is great, and their claims submission process is okay, but I wish they did a better background check on the services they sent out. I wasn't happy with one particular service, and the second time I had somebody come out, I asked them not to send this other company out because the person was really rude. The person came out and looked at the ice maker, and he knew what to do right away. However, there was a situation wherein his attitude was really nasty.
Home Shield sent the same guy out when my electric cooktop wasn't cooperating right. He looked at it and didn't find a problem other than something that was our own fault. When I took the knobs off to clean the stove really well, I put two of them in the wrong place. They're sensitive. The different knobs on the stove cooktop work different ways, meaning there's a center, middle, and outside ring to the same burner. So it was comical that that was as simple as it was, but this guy was made us feel so stupid. We just laughed it off, but I said, “You know what? I don't want this guy back in my house.” I'm extremely handy and I could have ordered the parts and fixed it myself, but I got Home Shield for when we, as homeowners, didn't have a clue to what we were doing.
