We had an issue where our AC quit working during 114 degree weather. We filed a claim however AHS was terrible and dragged their feet. We were unable to have them send someone in a timely manner, they wanted us to wait weeks. We ended up having to get our own repair estimates and ultimately pay for the work out of pocket. We have a full paper trail of what took place including what went wrong with the original unit. We were able to have everything done and repaired before they could even have someone out to look at the unit. When we asked them to honor the warranty, they denied to help with any of the costs. They wait to send someone until you take care of it then refuse to help.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Travis. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

We have been loyal customers of American Home Shield for over 3 years with no major repair request. AHS assigned a company that made 3 attempts to repair our unit while never accessing the attic (correct repair location) leaving us with hefty uncovered paid expenses that was not the problem. My family is and has been suffering without Ac in Texas heat for 30 days in 100 degree weather. AHS supervisor hung up in my face, refused to give me his name nor his supervisor info and showed no concerns other than saving AHS money for repairs. This should be against the law. Please take your business to a company that cares about the customers.
Dear Toni,
I understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to contact us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can talk more about your experience.

I had claims with American Home Shield for my upstairs and my downstairs AC. I also made a claim for my dishwasher. The people who came out did awesome. They fixed what needed to be fixed in a timely manner. But my recent claim was not so great. My washer went out and the technician noted that it needed belts and there was probably a transmission issue. American Home Shield decided to do just the belts. They wanted to go the cheaper route. The technician came out and put the new belts up. I got two small loads of laundry done and the washer did the same issue again. Between that, it had some time because before they could get the washer fixed, I had to go down to the laundromat and do a bunch of laundry.
The tech came out and said, "Yeah, it definitely needs a new washer." The service that I put in was on July 19th. When the new washer arrived, it was damaged. American Home Shield had to order me another one and they said that it was going to be the 29th. I called and explained my complaint and they said they could expedite. I called the people and they said the expedite wasn't on there yet. It could be five to six business days. At the latest, it could be the 28th. I tried to explain to them that school starts tomorrow. I have three kids and I've gone pretty much without a washing machine for two months. The little kids like to try to change four or five times a day. But there was nothing else that could be done.
The washer finally arrived last night and it's been installed. It's working pretty well. Most of the settings are just electronic. The technician was trying to move quickly. You could tell he wasn't from around here. In the town that I live in, I live close to a river so the mosquitoes are horrid. I even gave him a little bit of Off for his legs. He was definitely not used to it. Before yesterday, the whole experience was just ridiculous. Yesterday, they did awesome. Every time I called, they kept me updated.
I've used American Home Shield about seven times already and they have done really well. But the go-around and their communication was just horrid. I'd be told one thing by one side and I'd be told something else by the other side. Nothing was ever done. They told me about expediting the washer but that never happened. There was no straight actual answer. I talked to a supervisor and instead of him trying to help me figure stuff out, I was told that the ordering and shipping were not his department but he could send me to the shipping department. That aside, I did talk to a few people that were really good. Another thing was American Home Shield bumped up the cost and never contacted us through an email or anything to tell us about that. We started off at 60 and now we're all the way up to 90.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to the email sent to you and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

When I called AHS, some of the reps I got were pretty good and their website is not bad. So far, they replaced our stove and fixed some of our appliances, but others were not fixed correctly. With our pool equipment, we paid extra to get it added and when we had a claim on it, they agreed to cover this one piece on it. But when the pool guy came out, he had to move some of the plumbing around to make that piece fit where it was agreed to be placed, and AHS wouldn't pay for that. And then, they didn't cover the chlorine and lay things. We needed one of those and we paid for that out of pocket as well. I completely understood that, but why would they not pay for the plumbing that had to get done to install the part that they agreed to cover? The guy we talked to just kept reading the little blurb in the contract but that didn't tell me why they weren't covering it. It was so frustrating, so I just hung up.
There was another part on the plumbing equipment that they said was not considered normal wear and tear, so they also didn't cover it. But I didn't do anything to it. It just quit working. Other than that, the technicians were awesome. We paid the $100 for each tech before they came out, which I knew that was part of the contract, then, we had to pay the A-1 plumbing guy separately for him to do the work that AHS didn't cover. So, I thought we were done. But the other day, I got an email saying that I need to pay American Home Shield another $100. I'm going to have to call them again about that because I paid everything already. Aside from that, there's a lot of hidden stuff in the contract.

I have American Home Shield as a warranty service and I have the shield gold membership, my A/C stopped cooling and I requested service. They sent A 1 US Air condition and they couldn’t fix it, it’s been 3 weeks and so far nothing is happening and the contractor wants me to upgrade at a cost of $13,000.00 and AHS won’t authorize it until they get a diagnostic from the contractor and the contractor haven’t sent the diagnostic either. So, so far I’m still without A/C AHS won’t replace it and they won’t pay for the upgrade either. I already looking for another company to do the upgrade for a new A/C system. I'm done with AHS, they’re not doing anything about it.

I've been very disappointed with Home Shield. Their response time is great but once the ticket is opened and assigned, it's a bit of a struggle. Yesterday, I had my garage door repaired to where it could be functional. But Home Shield was calling me to find out how the project is going instead of calling the vendor and they're expecting me to follow up with the vendor. They've got jobs to do just like I've got a job to do and my job is not following up with the vendor that's supposed to be fixing my house.
Not to mention the fact that the story that I get from Home Shield is never the story that I get from the vendor. I thought it was maybe just this one vendor, but it was a chronic issue. When they initially came out, it was a sensor that had been an issue and they describe that this garage door model is chronic with these issues. It's an issue with most of these but he didn't bring the part with him? He said they would have to order the part so he did. In the meantime, I couldn't open and close the garage door. It takes three or four times to do it because it only lowers halfway.
The vendor said he'd be back out here at a certain time. But then he was running late and he would have to come out again. When he came out and tried to put in his parts, they didn't fit and he had taken apart the motor for the garage door opener. He said they would replace the motor. They'd replace the whole thing and that way, they didn't need the sensor. Then, he said he couldn't put the motor back together without the right part so he said he'd be back the following week. I know this is just a garage door opener, but it seems to be a chronic instance. Even to the point where I've already called my agent and I'm yelling at her because she referred me to Home Shield.

I had two cooling situations. One of them was for a property next door that I own and the problem turned out to be the fan, which was repaired with not much waiting time. Right after that went out, mine went out. So I was without air conditioning for almost all of last month. Determining what the problem was then ordering the fan caused a delay, but when the parts came, the repair was done in just a few hours. The techs had to go up in the attic, which is where the thing was, and it was extremely hot, but they worked really well. There was no complaining, and they just went to work and did what they had to do.
Also, I requested some additional parts for prevention and one of them was a larger tray to go under for the dripping. They suggested that I have two switches put on there that would automatically shut off, but American Home Shield didn't pay for those. We had the same problem in the attic before, but it turned out to be piping behind the stuff up there that they didn't see it first, so I had a lot of damage in the ceiling. After the techs finally figured out what it was, they put a larger pan and two switches in there for prevention also. So since the techs were here for my recent claim, I wanted to have that done as well. Other than that, the biggest benefit of having AHS is whenever something breaks down, it usually gets fixed. But I'm not satisfied with the fact that they're increasing their price yearly. The deductible used to be $75 and now, it's $100. The account prices have also gone up.

I love AHS and it's really easy just to deal with them when I need something. They're great and the warranty is a good investment. Recently, my dishwasher was dead and I did a claim online. It took a little while for a vendor to come out and take a look at it. But when the vendor came, the tech said that the dishwasher has lived its life expectancy and parts were no longer in production. I was told that American Home Shield would call back with a possible offer or options that we could have but he didn't elaborate. Then three hours later, American Home Shield sent me a proposal stating that we could buy a new one with a credit of 400 and something dollars. And I bought a new dishwasher with that. The whole process took about three weeks, and the tech was efficient and thorough.

In the past, my experience with American Home Shield has been fine. They replaced an air conditioning unit on my house, and all that was good. But I was disappointed in this event. I felt they didn't explain it well enough and tell me I would be limited with what my dollar amount was. It was a lot of money out of pocket this time. They told me at first, I would get a fan similar to what I had. What they paid me was $55 a fan, which wasn't enough to buy one. So I had to go out, buy the fans. And I just got the reimbursement for the money. There's a site where the electrician can go on and try to replace them with a fan that was similar. But there was nothing in the price range of $55. I had to hire them to come and put the fan boxes in before they could put in the fans. So, it took some time and it was costly. It was a thousand dollars. I thought at least my fans would be covered. But that wasn't true either. I was happy with AHS until this last thing.

I've only had to use American Home Shield twice in the six years I've been with them and it was fine. The first one I did was a refrigerator and icemaker. The other one was my dishwasher. The process was fine. But with the last one we did, I found the wait time between my reporting and somebody being able to get out there to be quite long. It was about 10 days. But when the tech came out, things went great. He went above and beyond. American Home Shield is fine. It’s for things bigger than what I've had to use so far. The price has gone up from 75 to 100 and I didn't realize that. It's quite a bit.

I'm waiting for somebody to come out and look at my air conditioner. I screwed up and I could have had a tune-up but I didn't get it. A couple of days ago, I had water coming out of the unit. I shut it off and put some towels down. It's had little drips of water but it's still working. I left it off for almost an entire day in that bad heat. I've read that water is coming out, you really don't wanna run it. But I don't wanna die in this house because of the heat. It's working fine now but it just scared me. I'm just worried that they're not gonna call me. I'm not dissatisfied, but it seems like I spent some money that I probably might not have needed to spend. But it was partly my fault for not getting the air conditioner tuned up because they don't do tune-ups in the offseason. I'm still waiting for the technician to call me. I got ahold of them three days ago. Nobody's called me yet. It's summer and I figured that they're probably busy.
I had another claim and the key place was okay, but I was under the impression that the guy really didn't do anything. They called and asked me what the number was on the key before he even came out. He could only really fix the one door. I was really happy with the garage door as it got fixed. But I really wanted to get a new garage door put in but it was gonna be twice as much. I almost wish I went ahead and did that.
I'm not dissatisfied with American Home Shield but I haven't had to have very much stuff done besides the garage door. I like the fact that I got my garage door fixed so quickly. That guy was knowledgeable and friendly. I'm just mad at myself that I had ordered a new garage door because I thought it was gonna have to be replaced but it was just a chain. I'm learning things as I'm going along. With the air conditioner, I'm gonna have to call somebody else to get it serviced because I haven't heard from this last place.

There was a part missing on our water heater. It's easy enough to request service through American Home Shield's website. The contractor was able to book the repair the same day and they came out right away. So, it was great. When the previous owners installed it, they didn't install a venting thing that goes on top. I ordered the part myself. So, the company that came just had to disconnect some pipes, reconnect them and install the part.

With AHS, submitting a claim is easy. I do it online and their website is good. But the customer service on the phone is awful. You might as well be calling Indonesia as there's a language barrier. Recently, we had a microwave go out. It's 12 years old and when the guy came, he had the part in hand and fixed it. He was in and out in 45 minutes, and since then, it's been working.
But three years ago, we went through three different technicians for our tankless hot water heater. Then we were told that we had to replace it and our part was going to be $1,200. So I was geared up for that. But then, I told them that I needed one more person to come out because I wanted somebody to flush it. So, they used my instructions and flushed out the hot water heater. And it's been working perfectly ever since then. So, my experience was really sketchy on that one. They should have done my instructions the first time. I was also pretty unhappy with it because I didn't have hot water for 40 days in the house. Aside from that, American Home Shield's AC people are a hit-and-miss, though it's hit-and-miss in the whole industry. I even had to call somebody else out besides American Home Shield because I didn't want to go through their rigmarole on AC that involved telling me I needed a new unit.
Other than that, we had a good experience with our washers and dryers, which AHS replaced. It took them a little while. They follow up on things, too. Also, the warranty is expensive at about $800 a year plus $100 every time a tech comes out. If I have a technician that I like, I might just call them because it probably cost the same.

I pay the fee and the serviceman comes out. They've been very kind and efficient. I had my garbage disposal jammed and I couldn't unjam it with anything. So, I had to call American Home Shield. Sean came out. He got here 9 o'clock, and by 10 o'clock he was finished. A screw had fallen into the sink and that is what kept the garbage from moving. Sean fixed it. He had a good attitude in terms of explaining to me what had happened, and he was very efficient.
I also had a refrigerator break down and the contractor came out, checked it and the serviceman said, "We can't fix this because we can't even get the parts for this anymore." So, I was given a voucher to get another refrigerator. I haven't got it because the products have been scarce. But I've looked at them and the amount that AHS gave me covers whatever I would get.
I've only had customer service one time that the person on the other line was not cooperative. I tried to explain that I wanted one vendor, but I could not have that vendor. So, I had to take the person that AHS sent. But I recommend AHS to everybody that I know. I have the top-of-the-line in the warranty so whatever needs to be done, I only had to pay the service fee. When I first got it, the fee was $50. It has gone up to $100 now. But it's worth it.

I did claim for my air conditioner and American Home Shield was great. But they didn't realize that I had a special type of air conditioner. Mine's a Carrier Infinity and it doesn't work like a regular air conditioner. It has speed drives in it and an inverter changes it to DC powered run motors. It doesn't make any noise unlike a regular air conditioner that goes bang. Mine has five different speeds to it instead of just one. The issue was the board blew on my air conditioner.
I called American Home Shield and told them about my unit. It happened to be Saturday night, so nobody was able to come out until Tuesday. We had to get the right contractor that could work on this. American Home Shield did their job. They got the contractor and he was absolutely great. The part was hard to get and when the first part came in, the contractor looked at it and said, "Hey, this is a used part and it ain't no good." American Home Shield had to order another one and they got one the next day. The contractor put the part in and away we went. We had an air conditioner. We had to go about almost a week without air and that was a hot summer down here in Florida.
Aside from this claim, I got a new $700 microwave from American Home Shield and it only cost me $125 every time. For this air conditioning thing, the price for the board was $870. Air conditioning guys jack that up to twice the price. With the labor, it would have been a $2,000 bill, but it only cost me $125 with American Home Shield. I have and would recommend them to anybody.

I had a water heater that was worn out and it flooded my home. I called up AHS by phone and they got back to me within a day or so. It was over the weekend, so I had to wait a couple of days before the contractor could come out. Vermilion Plumbing came and checked the unit. They had to replace it and I had to wait three days for them to order the unit, get it approved, and get it installed. But the first unit that they got didn't work when they put it in so I had to wait another day or two. They had to come back out and replace the heater core but that didn't work. Then, they came back out and replaced the whole heater.
They did it in as quick time as they could as far as dealing with AHS. They had to try to put a part in and fix it before they could give me a new unit, which I didn't understand. Once they brought the new one out, if it didn't work, they should have just automatically bought me another unit instead of waiting another couple of days, People were taking cold showers for three days. It was just unfortunate. Also, I had a problem before with the air conditioning unit and it took like a month to get it. That process, to me, takes a long time.

We called AHS on May 24th and so far, three different companies have come out to fix the problem, but the problem still exists. The guy from the first company came and changed one part. The dishwasher wasn't drying or cleaning, and he changed the spinner. But it’s just a spinner where the water comes out. The second guy came and he changed the top spinner, then he came back and changed a valve. Afterwards, he came back and changed the soap dispenser. The thing started cleaning better but it's not drying at all. And there's still food and it's not removing things from the dishes.
Then the tech from Sears came and he did an alignment. He took the whole thing and didn't replace anything. He just reinstalled it and it seemed like it was working for him. But we realized that if you put it in an hour cycle with dryer, it doesn't dry. And if you put it in a full cycle, it cleans better but it doesn't dry as it was doing before. It's a 2015 model and they just don’t know what’s the problem. But I'm not saying that they're bad. All of the companies came and they did what they told AHS. Other than that, AHS did the garage door and we had to pay 400 bucks out of our own pocket for that. Also, their reps have been friendly and if you're talking phone calls only, they're excellent. But their commercial says more than what they really are. Plus, the warranty is a little more expensive than their counterparts.

I submitted the claim because our air wasn't blowing out to the capacity that it usually does. The guy came out and fixed everything the same day. It was just the communication issue that May Heating initially told us they were only available between 9:00 and 4:00. So, we pushed out a further appointment. And when the tech came that day, we weren't able to be here. So we had to reschedule.
I had to call American Home Shield back and let them know. We were trying to work with the contractor but they only have traditional hours and when they said they offer a Saturday, we called back and scheduled for one. It would have been helpful to know that upfront because we could have gotten a Saturday appointment way in advance. We went three weeks with no air. The other issue I had where I had to call in was because I got the recent rate increase. I called in and the rep from AHS said that I could ask for a review of my coverage. They did the review of the coverage and I had to remove some of the services just to continue to afford it.

I had one year I had air conditioner problems and the small business owner that American Home Shield sent seemed like they'd found something. They were very small and had no parts on hand, and that didn't fix it. It was a month in the summer when I was without air conditioning. They kept coming and trying to fix it. They were very diligent. They would say they ordered the part and when the part comes in, they would get us on the schedule. The part came in and they took three runs at it. It may have been several things broken. But they got it fixed and that was fine. That's the only inconvenience that I had. AHS uses small businesses that are just trying to get started and this gives them clientele. But I've had very good success with it.
I just had my washer and dryer worked on and the guy was a nice Christian fellow. I've not had any attitude problems. AHS told me the contractor would be calling and they did. They set up an appointment and the guy came in the next day or two. He fixed one thing on my washer and had to order a part. My dryer was also having an issue and he fixed that while he was here. He said he would be back to fix the washer when the part came in. He came back and he was just a super nice guy. My washer and dryer are in the garage and it's kinda hot out there. Everybody around this time of year is suffering with the air conditioning system and I had to wait a week and two days, and it was indescribable. It was so hot here in Savannah. The techs came out and checked the air conditioner. I thought the unit just needed to be replaced because it had been with this house since it was built. But they said that the problem was the coil. It had a hole in it and the wiring, and the Freon. AHS took care of the other part and I had to pay for the Freon, which came to $1,550. It hit me hard because I didn't have it but I had to pull it out of my savings to do it. But other than that, since I have American Home Shield, they have been very good at getting somebody to do repairs. It just took so long.
AHS responds and gets the problem taken care of. The problem was the contractor. There's nothing that we can do about it. But the contract that I had could have helped me out with the Freon part. I’ve been with AHS for many years now and so far, things are good. I recommended my son and he signed a contract with them. But the sales part can give more clarity to the customer buying the policy because I thought I got the max policy, which the rep said I didn't.

I love it. I'm elderly and I live alone. Somebody could give me a ridiculous estimate. But it has to go through American Home Shield. So they'll know that AHS doesn't allow that much for the work." Sears came out to repair our washing machine. It had rust in it, so American Home Shield ended up paying for a new washing machine. The washing machine that was covered wasn't what we would have expected because the ones that we had were a bit pricey. We paid 300 out of pocket to upgrade to something similar to what we have. Not a lot of people are up for the home warranty because of the monthly bills, but I'd recommend American Home Shield. Everybody is professional and meets the job requirement. If there's ever an issue where it's not resolved, they do recalls and send out somebody to make sure that the problem is resolved.

I've had not so great experiences with American Home Shield. I've had one weird experience with somebody who didn't have good bedside manner. But the majority of our experience has been good and that's why we've kept them. Our refrigerator had gone out and their contractor had to come out and fix it twice. Finally, they replaced it. They fixed our dishwasher too. The technician who came when our AC unit went out was amazing. He was quick and respectful. He repaired it that day.

American Home Shield is excellent. I'm very happy with them. When you file a claim, they let you know right away that they are assigning somebody. The technician will either text you or call you. The copay now is $125 which is a bit steep but they've resolved every problem I've had. Everybody is courteous. They clean up. They enlighten me about a lot of things on how to take care of some of the appliances. When I had a problem with the Moen faucet, they told me to call Morn and get a new part. When it came in, they put it in.
Recently, a contractor fixed a washing machine that was bouncing around the laundry room. The guy knew exactly after five minutes. He came out on Wednesday and had to order a part. The part came in on Tuesday. They came back the following week to replace it. He advised me not to overload the washing machine. My only complaint is when I go to have the AC cleaned up every six months. My AC is more than 10 years old. The guy they send out is always trying to sell me a new unit. I used somebody not with American Home Shield to tune up the AC. He said I had another two or three years left on the machine.

The tech came after we reported the claim to American Home Shield so the service was quick. He had to wait for a part so we were without a refrigerator for well over a week. But he fixed it when he got here in a very short time, which was maybe in 15 minutes. We have a nice refrigerator working now. The only thing was we thought we had a lower deductible, but it was $125. And we couldn't figure out why because we thought the parts and the service were included. But my other friend has it and her deductible is $25. She bought her house about three years ago but I can't imagine that it would go from 25 to 125 in that length of time.

There's no live body involved when filing a claim with American Home Shield. That's a disconcerting thing about it. That was why I called and they arranged for a plumber to come out. They called the next day and had to schedule me for a day and a half later. American Home Shield is an inexpensive way to troubleshoot things. The upside is if you got an old home, you're covered. The downside to them is their contractor is gonna have the least expensive, quickest fix to try to correct the problem. If it happens to work, which in this case it did, they leave. Everybody's happy until it craps out six hours later. Now, you gotta go through the whole process again.
It's an 11-year-old water heater. They should look at replacing it but they don't. They wanna go through these steps. Every time you take a step, it costs $75 to walk in the door. You're at their mercy as far as what kind of work they're gonna do and also what they're gonna replace it with if they need to replace it. When I tried to go back through, I got a person on the phone that I couldn't understand. I was talking to somebody in the Philippines from a call center. I asked to talk to a supervisor and she put me on hold for 15 minutes. I hung up then called back. I got somebody in the Philippines again. I told the rep I needed to speak to a supervisor and they put me on hold again so I hung up. 24 hours later, a supervisor calls me from the Philippines but they were reading from a script.
When we first started with American Home Shield, we were paying 30 some dollars a month. Now, we're paying $62 plus a month. Their premiums continue to go up incrementally, but their coverages go down. At some point, they covered a refrigerator. Now, they don't. You have to put a separate rider on your policy in order to get a refrigerator covered. I'm a little frustrated with American Home Shield. But they served their purpose over the last 20 years since we've had them.

American Home Shield's monthly plan worked in my budget, and the coverage seems adequate. I've had one claim and it seems fine. My clothes washer stopped working in mid cycle, and it would not drain. I also smelled something burning, so I figured the motor quit. Because the washer is part of the warranty, I did a claim online and the website was very easy to navigate. American Home Shield then assigned Accord, and the independent contractor that works for them came and there didn't seem to be an issue. He checked everything out and it ran perfectly. However, it's still an open ticket for 30 days, if something else goes wrong.

My furnace was sparking and catching fire. The contractor was very professional. For how young the techs are, they're very knowledgeable and willing to work. They're very friendly people and they solved both my issues very fast. I had a water heater issue too at the exact same time. Both the companies that came out were awesome. It would have been 1,600 bucks to replace my water heater and I ended up paying a little over $600 out of pocket. That is including service fees. Adding the furnace stuff, AHS saved me 1,200 bucks easily.
There are little parts and upgrades that I wish they covered and I'm paying for that anyways. That's ridiculous because there are some upcharges from some of the business doing the repairs. I recommend the warranty. I always tell everybody that whatever package they get with Home Shield, to throw another 20 bucks in an account and know that AHS doesn't cover 100% of everything.

I had an issue with the air conditioning. The techs have come back three different times. Initially, the tech diagnosed the first problem to be the blower. They came a few times because the wrong part was sent by American Home Shield the first time. But then, the correct part was sent quickly after that. replaced the blower motor but now the issue might be the condenser coil dripping. Also, the box that contains the whole air handler needs to be replaced so I'm waiting to hear from the AHS.
Previous to having AHS, everyone was telling me, "Christian, nothing comes of a home warranty. They'll do anything to get out of having to pay." With my first two experiences, I had to pay 100 bucks but don't know where you can spend something like that and get something completely resolved. We also had the whole house rekeyed for $100 and I'm happy with that. Things break and if you don't have the budget for it, what are you gonna do? AHS is designed for bigger ticket items like the AC and ductwork which I'm sure are covered.

They called me but Friday was so busy and we didn’t have an appointment. Then Saturday and Sunday came. It happened overnight. I had a bad experience about a month ago with my refrigerator. The compressor went out. It was gonna take a month for the techs to come out until I called American Home Shield and told them I needed somebody to come and look at the refrigerator. They sent some Sears people within four days. But they had to order a compressor, which took a week, and the compressor sat here in my house for four days until the techs came and put it on. Supposedly, the technicians lived 100 miles away from my house. I was here without a refrigerator for two weeks and I was using an ice chest to put all my groceries. So, that was a bad experience.
This is my second time using AHS. The techs came and fixed my refrigerator for the first time about six months ago. They came from Yuma and were here within three days. The refrigerator was making a noise. It got full of ice in the back and a fan was hitting the ice. So, they changed a bunch of thermostats back there. When you got a little bit of an emergency and you're without a refrigerator, AHS doesn’t worry about you. They don't take into consideration whether you are out of the refrigerator or not. But Sears made a big effort and came right away. AHS doesn't go out of their way to help you out.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is somewhat frustrating. They always have some hidden charges or something that's not covered or not clearly covered, but you're still paying monthly and you still pay for a service fee. If it's not covered, then they should return the service fee. I had an electrical claim that was denied because it's external electrical flood lights. I had the electrical portion within my service agreement, but they said it wasn't covered. I paid the technician to come out, and they looked at it. They sent the work order back to American Shield, and they denied it.
I also had a claim on my washer. It was unbalanced. When it went into the spin cycle, it did take off and flew across the room. I did a service request, and the man came out and said the shock was broken. It took about a week to get the party in. I didn't understand why it took so long to get a shock in for that washer. But then once it came in, they came right out and repaired it. They only replace one. To me, if it has four, they should have replaced all four. One of the other ones might go out. The tech was great and professional. I've only done a couple of loads but it's working fine so far. American Home Shield's website is a little bit confusing, but you can talk your way through it. I had a contract in 2018 that comes up, but I don't have my 2022 contract that shows up automatically. They just need to redesign it and make sure that the current information is on at the present.

The refrigerator stopped cooling and the freezer no longer worked. And more recently, we had the techs come out again and they repaired it. On this last occasion, the tech walked me through and told me what it was. I met the technician personally, and he shared with me what he thought was the issue. They had to order the part. He didn't have it with him so he came back. But it was a little later than he had predicted. I wasn’t there when he installed it because I was out. But it was working. Then all of a sudden, it went down again.
I'm at a point now where we've lost food and we have a tenant who’s very upset. She has a sizable family and has a lot of food. At first, it was just the freezer, and all of a sudden, she said the refrigerator went out, too. Nothing was cool. So within a span of four days, we didn't hear from the technician. I got back with dispatch and she promised to put it on the high-priority list. So I'm waiting today and see where I am on the priority list.
AHS is a reputable company. I've heard some stories before I even got into it but I had also spoken to people who had used them that were very positive. The team of people who work from dispatch seem very caring and they do their best to try to make sure we connect clearly about what the expectations are as far as time and the quality of what needs to be done. So, I don't have a problem with that. I deal with contractors all over and I don't try to slam people for missing a time as long as they give me some kind of feedback.
AHS stands up to the warranty coverage that applies in the contract. But it’s always that in-between questions that might come up about things, something as simple as losing food. And food price is not cheap nowadays. I had an inkling that it wasn't so much written very clearly that food being spoiled but I kinda had it in the back of my mind they didn't cover that type of thing. Things like that are probably a little more prevalent. It goes hand in hand with some appliances. When they go out, they could cause other damage. And maybe it should be one of the high items of clarity that people know that spoiled food from a burnt-out refrigerator is not covered.
The price of AHS is comparable to what I've seen. I've seen some cheaper but I haven't gotten the same reviews from everybody else. Those who start up come in with a good game and all of a sudden, if they blunder along the way, their image is smeared. So those who keep up a good image after starting, they’re always the ones I look at. I put a lot of credence into how well they're perceived by the public.
The online tools I've used and the aspect of being able to maneuver and navigate in it freely are very good. By and large, it's available. I certainly have made use of it in the past. The big thing with a lot of it is when you get a call, the reps wanna know your contract number. Any time you don't walk around with that in your head, you have to go rambling. But the system has a way of at least getting you further. The people online say you don't necessarily have to have a contract number, they ask for your last name and off they go. So I don't see a problem with it. The online system is just another access mode to the benefit of the consumer. I generally try to have a personal contact with American Home Shield. When I talk to people personally, I feel a lot more comfortable with the name and I try to make sure I stay in that lane and try to get the job completed.

I had a leak in my sink which was coming from where the drain meets the sink. Plumb Genius came out and they realized they had to change that and the garbage disposal. So, that was what they did and I had no problems at all with it. The little dude who came in looked it over, told me what was going on, and proceeded to do what he had to do. It took him 30 minute tops. Everything is now functioning the way they're supposed to.
I submitted this claim online with AHS and they had a fairly basic website. It asks if you want to file a claim, then you go down and pick what category it's under. It might not be quite specific enough, but it gets you in that area. And they know from there if they need more info. Then they schedule the right people to come and do the work for you. For this claim, Plumb Genius sent a text message saying that they've been assigned as my contractor, then they gave me a date when the tech would come out. Also, 30 minutes prior, they let me know that the technician was on the way.
I'd tell others to go ahead and use AHS. They’re not bad and they treated me well. The customer service was quick and easy. But the coverage is nowhere near general enough. For instance, they might cover this part on the sink, but they might not cover this. Or they might cover this and this, but you have to pay a little extra to get this part covered. They get a little too specific in what you can cover. What they need is an à la carte coverage where I can pick exactly what components I want covered. For instance, most of us don't have the in wall vacuum cleaner system, so we don't need that bundled in the coverages that we want.

Hello. I purchased a new home this year and bought coverage from AHS with specific adder for pool coverage. After living in the home for a short amount of time, the pool heater stopped working. There was an error message on the screen about a temp sensor so I figured no problem, this is why I bought the coverage so I called it in for warranty. This was around 5/30/23. The tech came in, saw the message, noted it in his report and then also noted that the unit caught fire...
The claim ended up being denied for fire damage and the rep at AHS that I spoke to didn't even have the sentence from his write-up regarding the temp sensor needing replacement...I don't believe the unit has ever caught fire as it is a new house to me. It is a heater so probably gets hot from time to time. It is rather old but to me doesn't look old nor does it look like it caught fire. I called AHS to complain and they sent out a second Tech from another company.
This tech was at my house on June 13th for maybe 5 minutes. He said yep the temp sensor is broken and needs replaced. He took nothing apart, did zero tests etc. He says nothing about anything that would disqualify me from coverage. I even get a text that says parts are on order after he leaves. Then I get a call or email or whatever that the claim is denied for chemical damage. Again, the tech mentioned nothing of the sort to me and did zero tests and took nothing apart to show there was chemical damage. I called in to argue this with AHS several times and was hung up on several times. It would be one thing if they removed the sensor, found chemical damage and then wrote it up as such. AHS needs to just man up and fix the problem that was found (heater temp sensor) and should be covered under my policy.

The vendors that they've sent to our home have been very good too. Filing a claim has been very pleasant. For my recent claim, I called and it was very straightforward. The call agent asked other appropriate questions, asking what type of GE appliance it was. Admittedly, I didn't know there were a lot of differences. But with that, I did a quick Google, was able to get the answer. They sent the right GE vendor out. He was able to assess the problem. And he was in and out within 30 minutes.
The tech who came out was professional. He even found an issue that we didn't know we had. One of the other lights went out. So we were able to fix that right while he was here. It was easy-peasy. We just renewed our year. While I was on the call doing that renewal, they answered all my questions in regard to what's covered. That was helpful. They also were able to help us get our air conditioning fixed a few months ago during the heatwave. That was great as well. Everything I've expected to be covered has been covered.

We're on a well and the pump stopped working. I requested a service call from American Home Shield and someone came out the same day. The techs went over to the well, tested it, and tried to fix. They were resetting to see if it was just a breaker or fuse. Everything they tried didn't work so they figured the pump was out. They had to come back later after a day and a half to do the replacement. American Home Shield is good. But I don't particularly care for their outsourcing when you call. That's my only complaint.

I had a water leak on my washer and I called American Home Shield, and they assigned somebody out of Sears. They came, decided what was wrong with it, ordered parts and the parts got shipped to the house. Then, the Sears guys came back and fixed the problem. It was just a rubberized part and it’s working fine. I’ve had a little bit different issue with my fridge and we’ve had ongoing issues. We had an ice maker problem probably a month ago and the day before the techs came out, it started working again. But I didn't cancel the appointment because I wanted them to check it out. They couldn't find anything obvious though. They made sure the temperatures were correct and leveled the fridge because it recently got moved back in after a major interior remodel. But a week later, it stopped producing ice again. So, I contacted American Home Shield and that's when the problems began.
AHS sent a request to the same Sears group and having just completed one regarding the original request on the fridge, they closed it out saying it was a duplicate kind of an issue. So it took me four more phone calls to American Home Shield before they convinced Sears it was the same issue repeating itself. When the guy came out, because the ice maker had been completely dead for 10 days, he said they got to tear the whole thing apart. It turned out it wasn't the ice maker. The computer motherboard that runs everything was not telling the system to defrost. It's an auto defrost system because it's a KitchenAid. It's a top-end fridge. He said it should work fine until the new motherboard comes in. It came in yesterday and they're coming tomorrow to replace it.
The guy told me that frost buildup takes a long time so it's not gonna rebuild up in the week in between ordering the part and it coming in. So, that's not an American Home Shield issue. That was the communication between Sears and them. I don't blame AHS at all for it. We've had multiple calls over the years and I've been happy with their service. They generally do a good job though there’s a very tiny communication issue once in a while. My wife and I live here in the country and we've got many things that are covered by them, including our well pump and the living space in our barn. It's great to have peace of mind that I have somebody I can call when something like this goes bad. Because years ago, when we first got this fridge worked on, it was a $1,000 repair. And it cost us 75 bucks for a service fee. So it's paid for itself every time we've used them. And it’s five grand if we ever have to replace our well.
We just renewed our contract with AHS and they've dropped some of their levels. They'll only cover $2,000 on appliances now. The reality is that's all due to inflation and it's a business decision that they have to make based on the amount of calls they're getting for those types of things. Although I don't like it necessarily, I understand it. I'd like them to stay in business to keep doing this so it's all good. AHS originally came with the purchase of the house and over the years, I've just continued it. But the little bit of research I have done tells me that American Home Shield is the most popular, best received, on the top end of things. So the price is exceptionally competitive and I can't argue with it. Especially for what it does plus it has paid for itself for many years.

But it takes the time and hassle to get there. There's a lot of running around in between. They can't find a contractor to get lined up and I gotta find my own. Lately, I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield. They should send somebody that knows what they're doing it but they're sending us the cheapest people who don't know what they're doing. Our air conditioning claim is still pending. Since July 28th, I've been calling them. Someone came and said it was working. I checked if it was, but it was not. The tech told us to turn it on then keep an eye on the fan and if that fan didn't work, we had to shut it down so he could change it. It takes too long to call them and I already went to out of country. I've been calling them from Canada to make an appointment, but they never answered. When I came back, I called them again. They finally sent someone. He checked and said, "There's a problem. You need a part. They will find out if there's some freon missing.
I called so many times. The lady said, "Give them a call. They're waiting for your call." I called again and told them, "You guys are gonna kill me because it's so hot. I have a high blood pressure. Even my son cannot go to sleep, so we have to buy some window air conditioner." I called them again yesterday, and they said they've been waiting for the report. I called again and they said they just got the report. If I didn't call them, nobody would take care of it. Until now, nobody has called me. Nobody cares. When I called them yesterday, they asked if it was okay for me to fill up the freon because they could only cover 10. We paid 1,000 last year, and now we have to pay 1,000. Every single year, this is the problem. They've never solved it. I'm about to go to my lawyer and ask what can I do for this to stop. We're paying monthly, and when the contractors come, we have to pay another fee but they're not doing anything.

Our washer tech came, took care of it. Last month, we had a horrible experience. We're in Houston, 104 degrees, getting over surgery. The AC went out and we were without AC for two weeks. We reviewed the contractor and the Better Business Bureau has an F on the contractor, which raised a lot of questions as to why would they contract with American Home Shield if they have an F. And they have good reviews, but also bad reviews. So, that was very disappointing. They came the first time and didn't fix it. Next day, back to hot air, and they took a week for them to show up. The guy said, "I'll expedite this." No, they didn't. So, we had to chase them down. Finally, we bought out the contract and hired a regular guy and would get some reimbursement. There were electrical switches in the kitchen that would sometimes get tripped and there was no power supply to that. Interacting with the contractor, Jet's Electrical, was easy. The only issue I faced was the switches again had an issue after the tech's visit. We tried to reopen the same request but there was a lot of misunderstanding between American Home Shield and Jet's Electrical. AHS thought that we were doing some kind of an upgrade so they canceled it. I told them it was not an upgrade and they told me to call Jet's Electrical to tell them to call AHS to tell them that it is not an upgrade. I was a bit annoyed because I had to do multiple calls rather than AHS speaking directly with Jet's Electrical.
Also, sometimes AHS changes their coverage. Initially, we were offered free rekeying of the doors but that was removed and they said they would give an HVAC service but it's only in June or September that we can schedule it. I would need a service when there is an issue and I have to depend on their timeline when it is provided free and all those.

American Home Shield's customer service has been very good. Even their phone system is somewhat automated. They ask for the zip code, and then they say, “We've got this phone number. Please put in your zip code.” Then they pull up my name and ask me what I would like to do. I usually punch a button that says I wanna file a claim, and then what is it on. Every time I would have an issue with the toilets, American Home Shield kept sending the same company and I told them before to not send that company back out because they came to fix the toilet and it was not resolved. American Home Shield told me that they were the only preferred vendor and that they were not sending anybody else out. But that was unacceptable. Recently, I finally got somebody different on the phone who listened to me, sent out a different vendor, and now, my toilet is working.
When you get on the phone with American Home Shield, a lot of times you'll get an overseas rep. I had a rep that was just downright nasty to me when it came to an issue about a repair and not sending the same vendor out. I was having the same issue with my washing machine being repaired. American Home Shield kept on trying to send the same vendor, which I told them they hadn't done anything before. The rep hung up on me. Also, American Home Shield is not upfront in the time period that you can complain if the repair is not working and not be charged for another service call. So you have to pay another service fee for them to come out to send the same jerks who are not doing anything in the first place.
When I first started with American Home Shield, the vendors were excellent. But now, the vendors are lying on the reports. They tell you one thing and then they tell American Home Shield something else. For instance, I didn't call American Home Shield back for my washing machine because the vendor told me that he needed to escalate it to his supervisor and that somebody would be reaching out to me. I waited and waited but nothing ever happened. By the time I called back American Home Shield, they told me that the ticket was closed out as being completed. But I told them that nothing was completed. I was there waiting for them to send somebody out.
American Home Shield really needs to pay attention when a customer complains about a vendor. They should have the due diligence to do their research to get those vendors off the list. They're just coming out and collecting the paycheck and not doing anything. When you call American Home Shield, you go through hoops and hoops. Half of the time, you can't even get to a live rep. You're dealing with those machines or having to file a request online.

Sometimes, American Home Shield is really good. But sometimes, I've been very disappointed, especially with some of the providers that they offer and the wait time that occurs. Recently, we had an issue with our stoves. The person was able to come within a couple of days and figure out what the problem was, and was able to fix it the same day. So, that was pretty good.
With our dishwasher, the contractor tried to diagnose it over the telephone. The tech decided what was wrong and then ordered a part which took several weeks to come in. They got to the house and found out that what the tech thought was wrong was not what was wrong. They ended up saying that I could get another dishwasher, which then took several weeks to get from American Home Shield. We had to wait more weeks for it to be delivered and then more weeks for it to be installed.
When the contractor came to install it, they decided that they couldn't install it because of the way the previous dishwasher was installed wasn't what they did. So then I had to find someone else to install it, which ended up costing me more than what the dishwasher cost from American Home Shield. I've really considered finding someone else lately. Plus, the rate with American Home Shield went up another $25 for every service call. They gave me about a month's notice when the service charge was gonna start being $100 instead of $75. There was no explanation.
With the dishwasher, I asked American Home Shield not to send that particular service provider to my home again. It was supposed to be on my record that they weren't supposed to come anymore, but American Home Shield sent them anyway. When I had a leak under the house, the tech that came out didn't even go under the house to see that it was the issue. We knew there was some issue with our tub because another plumber pointed it out to us. I told him I was gonna go to American Home Shield because I had service with them and they sent someone. That was how we found out all of the extra issues that were involved and were able to get it done cheaper than what I was gonna have to pay the service person that American Home Shield sent out. Because American Home Shield didn't cover pipes.

I was very pleased with the company that American Home Shield sent out for the AC. They sent Cottonwood out on short notice. We had had trouble with our AC in the past. This summer, it was 118 degrees the day it went out and Cottonwood was busy with other customers, but they came out the same day, checked it out, and they gave the report by Monday. By Tuesday, American Home Shield approved the replacement because it was completely done. There was no repairing it. It took a little while to get it installed because they had to order it.
Home Shield was wonderful and fast considering it was the middle of summer and everybody else was having problems too. Cottonwood came out and installed the unit the minute it came in. They were supposed to be out between 6:00 and 8:00. So, they came out promptly at 8 in the morning. It was already almost 100 degrees by then. They quickly installed it, and by 9:30, we were ready to go. They were very efficient, prompt, and cordial. The tech came into the attic and checked the mechanism up there and did whatever he had to do up there. I couldn't be happier with all the work they did. It's working wonderful.
American Home Shield has always been excellent. I've used them twice for the air conditioner now. We had a problem with the unit last year as well. The man left my bathroom in disarray. He didn't clean up after himself. And he charged me for something that I wasn't supposed to be charged for. According to my contract, they either fix it or they replace it. He charged me $170 for plumbing which was not necessary. I talked to American Home Shield yesterday, and all they did was they removed an old toilet, put a new one in. No plumbing was involved.
The toilet was 45 years old. It took two flushes to get rid of whatever was in it. My water bill went up $25 in three months, which is unacceptable. When the technician came out the first time, he said that he would put in a recommendation that it would be replaced. I waited a total of two weeks for AHS to okay this job. I got this call from Whitney Plumbing saying that there was a $170 charge for some kind of plumbing extension because AHS said that plumbing had to be done. But there was no plumbing involved. They removed an old toilet. They set a new one. They put up a water supply in. That was it.
A year ago, my ice maker went out on my refrigerator. A man came out. He looked at it, said, "Yes. It doesn't work. I have one at my shop." He checked his inventory. He has one at his shop. Brought it out, removed the old ice maker, put the new ice maker. I was charged my $100 service charge, which is normal. That's my contract. He took the old one out, put the new one in, it was done. That's what I figured would happen with the toilet. He removed it, replaced it. Boom, it should have been done. No. This Whitney charged me $170 for some kind of phony-baloney plumbing thing that there was no plumbing involved. I was hoodwinked by this Whitney, and I should have not paid this. Somebody owes me $170.
I called AHS yesterday. They said, "We'll refund you $100 back to your credit card." I said, "No. That's not acceptable. I want 170. Not 100." The best they would do was 100. I deserve $170 credited back to my account. There was no plumbing extension that this Whitney company charged me. And they said, it was because AHS said that. AHS said they didn't do that. They didn't authorize it. So, somebody's lying to somebody. When I talked to AHS yesterday, they said, they would not call that company, and I said, "Don't you ever send them to my house 'cause I will not accept any work from them again.” I called Better Business Bureau for them to send me a complaint form against that company.

I had some leaky faucets and valves, and American Home Shield took care of it. The contractor came out a couple of days after I submitted the claim and fixed them. They were great. But when I had an air conditioning unit replaced a year and a half ago, I didn't have a real good experience with the contractor. They had to keep sending people back to get it right. Then I was in the hallway and I looked upstairs, and the ceiling was leaking. So I called the tech back and shut off the air conditioner. The drain pan overrun was bent and it was leaking water and it was coming down through the overhead. I asked them, "Well, if the pan was bent, why didn't y'all fix it or replace it when you took care of that unit up there?" But I didn't get any comment out of that. Their people were a little lackadaisical.

He looked at it and said that it's gonna take a few days to order the belt because it's a special belt. It took 10 days and then, he came in and installed the belt. It worked pretty good. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield, because whenever I've called them, they've come in and took care of the problem. American Home Shield is very fast and right there when I make a claim. I called and made one. It was very smooth. American Home Shield reached out to me about a busted pipe. They sent the plumber out the next day. They called, checked and saw how they resolved the issue. When the plumber they sent wasn't able, they were able to reach back out to the office and speak with the supervisor, and was out the next day to get the issue resolved. He was nice. I was satisfied.

My AC unit downstairs stopped working and the whole claim process took five days. The technician that came from Myers told me that the downstairs unit not working forced the upstairs unit to work even harder. He fixed it and put a new capacitor in. He was pleasant. The issue I had with AHS was when I sold my home in Columbus, Georgia, the condition of the sales was to pick up a home warranty. I went with Home Shield because I've always had good service with them. I set up the home warranty for the new owner but two months later, they charged my account for a service they did in the home there. I got upset with it because I took the time to personally set this up in the new owner's name. I gave them that information but they didn't cancel out my account. Other than that, I'm pleased with them.

My very last claim was perfect. It worked like it did in the old days. But I had many contractors who didn't call me back. I wait a week, I call in, and AHS tries their best to get them but they're not available. I went through a hard time with my washer. It took three months and AHS finally gave me a new machine, which was very nice, but it was a big problem all the way around. But it wasn't always that way. It was never that way for many years and the contractor would get back to me within 24 hours.
I really liked having AHS. It was a very big help. But I canceled because of the price going up so much plus each time they come out. Also, they changed the set up. It seemed like at first, we could pick what we wanted to cover. Then later on, they had these special deals and we couldn't change. They cover what they want to cover. I was paying for a lot of things that I don't have. I have my own coverage on the air conditioning and the furnace and they put that on there. I figured that's a big deal and I wanted that locally because I need that fixed fast. I was paying for that for a long time and when I saw that big increase, I thought I just gotta do something else. I had four different people yesterday trying to cancel this and I spent my whole morning trying to do it. Four different people needed all this information over and over. It wasn't easy, although everybody has been kind.

The fan in the AC unit outside stopped working. We did the claim online as soon we noticed that something is wrong with our AC, which was Sunday evening, and everything was processed really fast. The contractor was here faster than expected. The gentleman was very nice and courteous. He explained everything to me and answered every question I had. The only thing is we always have issues with the type of AC unit that we have and it seems like people are not too familiar with this system. The tech let me know that he's gonna try to look at it and see if he can fix it and if he can't, then he would have to pass it on to somebody else. But he was able to locate the issue so he did a good job. Then, at some point, the unit stopped on me so, I called him back and he answered right away. He explained to me and told me to call him by 3 o'clock if it still did not cool down.

1. There is a leak in the downstairs AC unit, identified by visual inspection (Photo proof attached).
2. The visit from an AHS appointed technician (8/2, Certified Air) has rendered our AC system damaged beyond repair. The Certified Air technician pumped our system full of nitrogen to try to find a leak and the nitrogen has ruined our ac system, motor, pumps. A repair is ‘not recommended’ due to the age and the stress the nitrogen caused on our system. He never informed us to not run the system filled with nitrogen, as it would ‘be dangerous’ and extremely ‘adverse’ to the system. This technician also declined going up to the attic for inspection where half of the AC unit is located and hence it is imperative to get a full understanding of its status (please read detailed report from Right now air and solar, attached).
3. Our system is 18 years old, services advised by AHS will not only be cost-extensive for us, but also it doesn't guarantee the longevity and proper functioning of our system after recommended repairs. Especially after leaving our system filled with nitrogen, it's deemed damaged beyond repair.
We appointed AHS as a trusted source, to be able to provide the right tools and assistance to fix our covered appliances, when problems arise. We are deeply disappointed with the response thus far with incompetent technicians from South Placer Heating and Air and Certified Comfort, sub-par coverage and total lack of willingness to solve this problem. We have endured several 100+ F degree days without a cooling system in our house. We do want to work with AHS, but they will have to do better than the current offer of $596.56 for repair. An option that no longer exists. We hope they will uphold your honor, and do the right thing by their customers.

I've had a good time so far with AHS. Everybody's been quick, efficient, and professional. I had to get a new refrigerator and a new microwave because they were too old to be repaired. I put in the claim online. Had someone come out and look at it, and determine what needed to be done next. For the microwave, I paid out of pocket a little bit. The ones that they had that would be covered fully, didn't go with the kitchen, like the color. So in order to get the exact one that I wanted, I had to pay out of pocket a little bit. But the refrigerator was fully covered. Having AHS is very good because, especially after buying a house, I wouldn't have had the money to replace, especially not the refrigerator. So far, so good.

I like that with AHS, I'm able to call and get appliances fixed or get information about appliances that I have, especially in the younger years as a first-time homeowner. I had a problem with my kitchen sink faucet and used American Home Shield. When I submitted a claim through the website of AHS, it was very easy to identify what I needed to get to and submit the claim. Took about five minutes. Home Choice Services came out and was able to fix the problem rather quickly. They ended up taking off the faucet of the kitchen sink and replacing it with another one. They told me that the older one was all clogged with sludge and sediment and that was causing the pressure to go down. They were very good, respectful, and knowledgeable, and were able to complete the job in rather a quick time. They were punctual too.

The first time they came out, they said nothing was wrong with the air conditioner. Then it completely broke the next day. A week later, they came out again. We were low on Freon and Freon has drastically increased in price. American Home Shield covers $10 per pound. And Freon was $180 a pound. So it was very expensive. But it repaired it. Submitting the claim with AHS is okay. But I know that for everything that might be wrong, all they're gonna do is try and repair it. Nothing's ever gonna be replaced. They had to replace the water heater one time. They put a value on it and we had to go out and buy our own. Recently, we had a claim for the air conditioner. It wasn't cooling. The techs that came out were good. They got it done within four hours after calling. It’s been good since then. AHS covers a lot of things. The pricing seems a bit high, though. For $800 a year, I would probably not carry it again next year because you could save money and then pay for whatever's wrong, get a contractor out to fix it versus paying 800 per year and nothing happens. That's 800 down the hole.

I had two claims with AHS, one about the refrigerator and another one about the air conditioning. The one about the refrigerator in my personal house has gone very well. The person that they sent out to fix it looked at it, told me what the problem was, called it in, American Home Shield responded right away, and they took care of it. The tech was a person who knew his business and since the repair, the refrigerator's performance has been excellent. But the other claim with the air conditioning was a disaster. It was in one of my rental properties and AHS sent somebody out there who lied about the problem.
I told AHS that the air conditioning company that they sent out there had a really bad review on the Better Business review and that what their tech said was really ridiculous. He said that it had a leak and that I had to replace the whole unit. So, American Home Shield said that they were not going to cover that. They also said they could send somebody else out there but it'd cost me another $125. I said no to that and instead, I got a reputable air conditioning company to come out there after seven days. They fixed the issue in less than two hours and it turned that it was something completely different than what the first tech said. It wasn't a leak, it was a thermostat problem, which was very simple. Another person that I know that has the same warranty in his personal house had the same issue with an air conditioning unit. So, it seems to me that when it comes to air conditioning, AHS seems to have all kinds of hiccups.
I called AHS up and told them about what happened with my AC claim but they didn't do anything about it. Also, it's very hard to get anybody to talk to you when you have an issue. They send you to Pakistan, to India, or to everywhere in the world. Those people try to do their best to do whatever they have to do, but the problem is that they really don't understand the problem. Other than that, American Home Shield is a good company and they're very nice, especially when you're calling in to report something. However, when something doesn't go right, that's when all the bells and whistles sound.

Then, our washer was not draining right. So the technician came in and he was done in about 45 minutes. He ended up having to put a new drain pump in. Having AHS, I have security. If I had to figure out what was wrong with my garbage disposal on my own, I wouldn't have known. I would have had to buy a new garbage disposal, which is $300 or $400. The claims process has been quick but I had one experience with AHS that I didn't like. Several years ago, they were offering a $100 discount, so I took advantage of that. I sent the money in time and they kept writing to me saying I owed them $100. And this went on for at least two years or more and I didn't think that they were reporting me to the credit bureau. My credit most of the time has been 800-plus and my score went down. I talked to them about it and after several calls, they finally said that they were going to send me some paper to correct that. But they haven't and that even bothered me this week.
At another time, the fan in the bathroom lights was not working and someone came out, but the company did not correct it at all. So, I called American Home Shield back after a while and I let them know that the fan was not working well. It was making a lot of noise and it got to the point where I turned on those fans and they heard that rattling terrible sound. They sent someone back out without charging the additional fee, so I really appreciated that. Other than that, there's a lot of running around, calling this person, and talking to that person, when dealing with AHS. Also, I don't like paying almost $1,000 a year, but it's understandable as everything is going up.

I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. I just had them recently for the pool and the guy was fantastic. He ordered the part and got everything done. He was in and out of here within three days because they don't stock parts. I like 90% of American Home Shield's service people. They're usually very fair, but I've had ones that I wasn't totally thrilled with. It took a year and a day for them to do something. Because it started with the first serviceman that wasn't good. I said, "I'm sorry, he's wrong. Give me a second opinion." The guy said he was 100% wrong. One, it can't be fixed, and two, it needs to be replaced because it would cost more to fix than to replace it. They didn't replace with the exact same thing I had, and it was available. This goes back a number of years and it could have been the representative that I was dealing with because I never had that experience again.
American Home Shield is very good, but some of the people on the phone are incompetent. A lot of times I'll say, "I don't wanna speak to you. I'd rather speak to someone else. I can't understand a word out of your mouth." I'm not a bigot, but they should speak English so I can understand them. The home warranty is getting very expensive as far as monthly as well. I realize things are going up, but they're not raising it $5 and $10. The service call started at $25 and now it's up to over 100, but any serviceman that walks into my house is gonna charge me that or more.

I've been with American Home Shield since the ‘90s and the customer service was good in the beginning, but now it's gotten worse. They went to sending all their phone calls overseas that you can't really understand what the reps are saying and they can't understand what you're saying, and there's a lot lost. With this last incident, I’ve had my air out for over a month and they don't seem to care. I put in a service request. They called me back and asked if I would I agree to pay the out-of-pocket cost. They never pay for Freon. So, I said, “Yes. I'll pay the $500 for the cost that it would cost me.” Somehow, it got mixed up to where they were thinking that I didn't agree to that. So, they never ordered the part. About 10 days later, I called back because nothing happened and they said, “Well, you didn't agree to order the part.” Then they looked at the notes and they say, “Yeah. You did agree.” Somebody dropped the ball.
Overall, I like that I can pay my deductible and get something fixed but a lot of times, they're always trying to get out of fixing something like the ceiling fan. It's been on my contract the whole time. Now, they just decided that they wouldn't fix my ceiling fan because they were calling it something else. The people that you talk to don't speak English so they don't know what a ceiling fan is. At another time, something was wrong with the light in my sunroom and the electrical company never would come back out. They wouldn't respond to my phone call. I think American Home Shield lost control over their contractors. The price has been going up, too. When I started, it was 30 some dollars a month and it went up to 40. Now, it's at 60 and it's getting ready to go up to 80. I'm probably gonna get rid of AHS.

We're not happy with American Home Shield at all. We had a water heater go out. They told us the water heater completely sprung a leak and that a dealer in Carroll where we live was gonna do it. American Home Shield dropped the ball, and we had to buy a water heater ourselves. I was getting nowhere with anybody. They never did find anybody to fix it. We ended up having to pay for $1,200 for ourselves to get it.
Also, I didn't like that our dryer vent was completely clogged and the tech said, "No, American Home Shield won't pay for that." So, we have to hire somebody else to do it. They said, "No, that's maintenance. So you gotta do that yourself." We had a recent claim with Woodley Appliance for the washing machine that quit working. They ordered the piece, we got it, and we were fixed up in a week. So, that was okay. As far as the customer service, if you can understand them, they're okay. AHS doesn't have people that have English as a first language and it's hard to understand them. We've not been thrilled with it. So, we're not gonna renew our contract.

First of all, it’s hard to understand the representatives of American Home Shield due to their heavy accent. My AC unit stopped cooling, the diagnosis is a leak in my evaporator coil. American Home Shield refuses to repair my AC because they claim the damage is not wear and tear. My unit is 20 yrs old and I live in Florida. I have been w/o AC for three weeks due to their slow process. I have a daughter that takes chemotherapy and after Chemo she is so sick and she has to come home to a 90 degree house thanks to American Home Shield.
Buyer beware, they are not in the business to repair your appliances but in the business to have contractors go out and try to sell or push on you a new AC. The technician they sent even asked for my credit rating. The technician said, "AHS would not cover the cost of your parts" and they were right. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE AN EXTREMELY ILL CHILD. They will use the excuse that is not wear and tear on you AND LEAVE YOUR CHILD SUFFERING. GO TO ANOTHER COMPANY!!!

We had a plumbing leak, and when the plumbers came out, they made two holes in the ceiling and indicated that a plastic gauge would need to be fixed or replaced. They told me they would call me within the week, but I never received a call from them. The home warranty company never resolved the issue, and this went on for about three weeks. Finally, one of the representatives from the home warranty company indicated that I was out of my one week window, and since I didn't complain earlier, they wouldn't be able to resolve it. I said, "Well, I've been trying to call y'all and nothing came from it."
I asked them if they could transfer me to somebody else, because I understand that it was out of their control. They have the computer, but there's only some much they can do. They indicated that they would give me the same information. I stated, "Yes, I am aware. But I still would like to talk to somebody else about this, maybe with someone that has more authority." It ended up that I was on hold for about 25 minutes, and no one ever took my call. It just went beep, beep, beep, then it hung up on me. American Home Shield is not useful, and at least in the Pittsburgh area, I would tell people to run. For this one repair, we poured in at least $400 into the warranty for people to come, and all we have now is two holes in our ceiling that we have to fix ourselves.
I don't feel protected, but I keep American Home Shield for peace of mind. I acquired it through my home sale about a year and a half ago. The seller of our home coordinated that when we bought our house, and when the year was up, I reinstated the warranty. I'm thinking about dropping American Home Shield though. We haven't had any success outside of them rekeying our house.
Are you still in need of assistance?

The AC went out. I submitted a claim through the website of American Home Shield. It was easy. I had no issues with it. I meant to call them because I still had to pay for them to fix it. I'm trying to figure out if I have the warranty, why am I paying $300? Whatever the issue was, maybe it wasn't included. The tech said he went out there and did something. Then, he said that the Freon was low, so the Freon was replaced. Everything's perfect now. Overall, I like the convenience of having AHS. Instead of having to go online and search for someone to come out and pick something, they pick for you. They were fast with sending someone out, and I had no issues. The rate is constantly going up, but you get what you pay for. I'd tell others that they should get it.

American Home Shield has been good. Usually, they're a reliable service. When we have issues, they get someone out right away. They recently had repair people come out and try to troubleshoot an issue we were having. They were professional and knowledgeable, but they weren't able to recreate the issue so they weren't able to repair anything.

The prices have recently gone up significantly from when I started. There's a $30 change. Of course I want a better bang for my buck. I'm not happy that the prices keep increasing. But I like the ease and less stress in having to look for a handy person to come out. American Home Shield has their own bank of people, and I have been pleased with their services. Very easy and efficient. I just went on AHS' website and made the claim. I recently had someone come out and fix my oven. He did a nice job for me. Problem solved.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 10 years and I have had a good, not a great experience with this company. My experience with customer service regarding the assigned service company’s technician not showing up, lying about me not being at the time he said he show, which was not the set time frame. The issue for me was not being heard although I have tangible evidence not just his word. In addition, after voicing how I wanted another company and told it’s “… not in their policy to change service providers..” So you are going to force me to deal with a company’s employee who has integrity issues!
ÀND was constantly told by both representatives, service person said I was not home. All lies, set in a hot home from midnight until 8 pm. It’s hot down here in Texas and highly frustrating to have to go without a working AC for 1 week. They rescheduled my appointment on a day I work. So never-mind what inconveniences I face, wish the conversation was automated probably would have had a better outcome!
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to the email sent to you and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

Diamond Garage Doors & Openers came out four times for the same issue, and they call themselves skilled technicians. Even the supervisor couldn't figure it out. I was paying a service call for every time. They kept trying to get me to buy a part that I didn't need. They wanted to sell me new sensors and shields. They also wanted to sell me a brand-new garage door opener. That's not the company that should be representing American Home Shield because if they did it to me, they did it to other customers, trying to sell them a part that they don't need.
The technician was rude. Devin is his name. I was the one that figured out the problem. The sensors just needed cleaning. When I called American Home Shield back, they didn't want to refund me any money back. Finally, a rep stepped away from the phone like she was speaking to her supervisor but I didn't feel like she was. She came back and offered me half of the $75 from the last service call. I felt I was running around in circles with American Home Shield and they were covering for each other. I was even ready to go to Channel 10 News. I was calling BBB ’cause I was sick and tired. I googled the CEO of American Home Shield, Rex Tibbens, and he doesn't have a phone number listed. That's unusual. I also couldn’t understand some of the people that I talked to at American Home Shield whether they were speaking Spanish or English.

I have the Platinum contract with American Home Shield and I have to pay $125 upfront for them to look at the problem. But sometimes there's a situation where I may have a problem or I may not have a problem, and they could charge $125 just to look at it, which is okay. I agree to that. But sometimes I wish they would come out and look at it for free to see if there is anything wrong.
When the air conditioner went out, I called American Home Shield on a Monday and told them that I needed someone to come out and fix it right away because I have renters in there. They said they would have someone come out on Thursday to look at it. But I asked them if they could come out earlier. It took them about seven days to come out just to look at it. Meanwhile, the renters were very hot inside. When the contractor came out and looked at it, they said they had to order a part, which was okay. They ordered the part and fixed it. So they did a good job. But the problem is that when you have an emergency like the plumbing is not working and air conditioner is not working, you may have to wait five or seven days before someone comes out to even look at it.

American Home Shield’s customer service has been very good. They answer the phone on Sundays. The technicians that they send out have been great. There was nothing that they didn't handle. They don’t always get it right the first time, but then if they come back, they say, “Okay. This is what we needed. Blah, blah, blah.” Then they figure it out. They keep raising the price up, but the overall warranty and the coverage seem good.
American Home Shield is kind of like Walmart. The people before me in this house got Home Shield because they couldn't get repair people to show up. It's too far out. It's out in the sticks. So, they figured if they had American Home Shield, then they were contractually obligated to make the service call. American Home Shield is not the same as calling up the air conditioner repair company of your choice. American Home Shield is more like, “We’ll give you to the guy…” It's like having an HMO for a doctor instead of being able to choose your own doctor.
This year, they've been great. A guy showed up and did a great job. He knew what he was doing. He got hammered with the schedule. The guy showed up at a quarter to 11:00 at night to fix my stuff, but then the air conditioner is bad. “I got stuck today in a job that was really tough. We did it. But I'm 40 minutes away and I will be there if you want me.” The AC didn't stay fixed for a day or so. He had to put in a bad part, and he showed up in two more days and fixed it again, and was in and out and it was all good.
A couple of years ago, we had an air conditioner that went bad. A guy showed up. He was awesome and did a great job. He fixed it better than it was when he showed up, but it took him about three times to go. That was year one and a person starting their own company as an air conditioner repair, and so they use people like Home Shield who will give them steady work. A year later, his company is doing well and they're already more established, and you can't get them out.
The guys that AHS sent out when I had a washer machine go out did a great job for me. They just wind up replacing the whole thing, but if you look at how many star reviews that they have, it doesn’t tell. So, if you called up and said, “I wanna have my washing machine fixed,” they would say, “I found your service provider. I'm sending them out." You check that service provider on Yelp or Google and they don't have good stars. They don't have good recommendations. So the guy shows up, does okay, adds everything but the book to the thing. He's late and he's got 10 calls in a day. You know he didn't have time to do all the work well. But he orders a ton of stuff because that's how American Home Shield works with the stuff. They order parts. The service provider gets paid by parts that they install.
So with that, the guy orders tons of stuff. Then next thing you know, all the stuff arrives, and the guy finally shows up and says, “You know, American Home Shield came back and said, 'Just too much repair. Let's just buy you a new one.’” This is my clothes dryer. I've already waited three weeks on this thing, and now I'm starting a new one again. The overall lead time of service is always gonna be Home Shield's challenge. I give them credit with the air conditioner guys we had last year. It was kind of tough. These guys who’d come out have been really good, so I've been really happy with that.

I've dealt with American Home Shield for about 23 years. I recommended them to my sister and everybody else and my son. I recommend them all over the place. Submitting a claim used to be a lot better than it is now, but I'm from the old school. I like to talk to people, and not a computer. The service has always been good and fast. I had one experience with the one contractor, and he was a nice person. He just didn't know what he was doing. He took my washing machine out on the patio and bought parts and finally said, “I can't fix it.” I was without a washing machine before he finally decided that it needed to be replaced. As soon as he said it had to be replaced, AHS replaced it immediately. They asked me what I had before, and they got what I had on my other machine. So, it was an upgrade.
I also had a hot water heater replaced, and I've had other things such as the fan in the bathroom and the garbage disposal. They've replaced my air conditioner. I've had to use them over the years. I've always had excellent help with those people. As far as the price, right now, I'm not too happy with it. It's 70 bucks a month. I really like their service, but they went from 45 to 70, and I'm like, “That's quite a jump.” I have been checking around someplace else. They've done everything, but I don't like that monthly charge for that much of a job. I’m on a fixed income.

I submitted a claim for a faucet in each of my bathrooms. They got a contractor out to me in a couple of days. They weren't able to fix it in the first round and they had to order some parts. But once those came in, they returned and installed them. With AHS, it's been hit or miss with the contractors. It's either they're inexperienced or their hands are tied by American Home Shield. So, they can only do so much for the repair. AHS doesn't incentivize its vendors to do the job correctly. They hamstring them with the decision matrix that they put around them.
Also, I have to call AHS multiple times to get things settled. There isn't clear communication between them and American Home Shield. The ball gets dropped a lot between the two and it's always pointing the finger at who is supposed to handle what. I'm honestly considering canceling the warranty because this last go around, I couldn't get them to fix anything.

We had someone come out and check our plumbing. We had a leak in the bathtub. I went online first because I reviewed my contract to make sure that what I needed done was covered. I found exactly what I needed. I pulled up my contract and everything was right there. It was easy to get. The contractor gave me a call the day they came and they said they'd be here in about 30 minutes, which they did. It took them about an hour to complete the job. They fixed the leak and replaced the washers in the faucet in the bathroom. They cleaned up and left. They did a good job. American Home Shield is a good investment. I've been with them for almost nine years and I've used them quite a bit. They did my air conditioning, heater, furnace, and refrigerator. It's a very good coverage and their price is good. Over the years, it has gone up a few dollars but not to the point where it's over-bearing.

We did a claim for the icemaker that's built into the kitchen. When we called, American Home Shield said it wasn't covered. The people you talk to initially don't do the work but they were very pleasant over the phone and they got people out as fast as they could. I also did a claim when there was a leak in the master bedroom closet. The guy that came out said it was because our gutters needed to be cleaned out. I had someone come in and clean out all the gutters. But when the next rain came, it was still leaking. The techs could either be not wanting to do the job or saying things aren't covered when they could possibly be.
The third claim I did was when we had a leak upstairs. The techs found it and said it was the shower, but they didn't fix the leak. They ended up down in the garage, tearing all the drywall where the leak was coming out. It was a very small leak. In the end, my daughter's boyfriend came and fixed the shower leak. It was a seal where the drain is. But there is still a big hole in the ceiling in the garage.
We moved into this house a year ago, not really knowing what was wrong. We found tons of other things that we fixed on our own instead of calling every Tom, Dick, and Harriet, and paying 80 bucks each time. I’m not really satisfied with my claims. There were only two or three others, which were air conditioning situations. The guys that came out for that were really knowledgeable and super helpful in telling us how to prevent other situations with the air conditioning unit. I really like those.

Three months after we bought our place, the air conditioner went south on me. That was back when it was $75 to have a tech look at the unit. AHS did that and gave me a new air conditioner. In the eight years I've had the warranty, they have replaced a washing machine, refrigerator, garbage disposal, furnace, and toilet. But now, it's 100 to have a tech come out.
I just had a leaking faucet in the kitchen and to get under there, I needed to be a contortionist. I was gonna screw it up myself so I gave AHS the 100 bucks. A guy bigger than me came but he got under there, took the thing apart, and brought me back a new faucet and the whole works. Also, the toilet was leaking a little bit and so I got a new toilet out of it too. That was pretty good.
The only downside was when one of my appliances went out, it wasn't covered. So, the next year, I had it covered. It's a good idea to look into a company like American Home Shield. The only thing is there are levels of coverage so make sure you read the fine print and make sure everything that you want covered is covered in there.

It was easy to get ahold of American Home Shield and get everything set up. Unfortunately, I had to wait five days for the technician to fix my AC when it was 120 degrees out. The capacitor blew out. It's an easy and cheap part to fix but I'm disabled so I can't do that anymore. That's why I have AHS. Other than that, the technician was very professional and quick on the job. The only downside is on some of the coverage for ACs and heaters, there's a limit on it but there's nothing you can do about that. AHS's price isn't bad but it sucks to spend 120 bucks for a $100 part and a tech doing less than 30 minutes of work. But it's still cheaper than having a tech come out.
Using AHS is wise due to appliances not being made as well as they used to be. If you get a power surge from a lightning strike in a storm like in Arizona or in the Midwest, that can damage your compressor on your fridge, your microwave or your AC unit. Then you're just out of luck because you gotta come up with 500 bucks to do the repair. But with AHS, you can pay 120 and not have to worry about it. You're gonna have at least one appliance break within three to five years. If you have kids or pets, that statistical average goes to six months to a year. So the warranty is worth the price.

Everything is so easy and quick. If the techs don't finish the work, they keep coming. Recently, my washer got totaled and they weren't able to repair it. They gave me a check to which I had to pay more on top for a new washer. When something needs to be replaced, you have to put a lot on top. Like when they changed my disposal, I told the tech, "Look, my disposal was bigger". He then said, "This is what the company is giving you." That time, I didn't know that I could add myself. The guy said, "I have one in the truck, I'll bring it to you." But it's still good working.

Most of my experiences submitting a claim were fine. I was able to set up dates to have the contractor look at the appliance to either repair or replace them. I had a claim completed a couple of weeks ago for my washing machine which stops spinning. AHS said they would have a fairly local company reach out to me. That company sent a repair lady and she assessed the problem to be so severe that the washing machine would need to get replaced. She turned in her report and I day later, I got an email from AHS and they had pictures and descriptions of replacement machines that were available or the option of a Lowe's gift card for the value of the washer. I was able to choose the machine I wanted that was comparable to what I had. There was no money that had to be paid extra. Delivering the washer had a window of six hours so I needed to be home and miss a day of work. But we were able to arrange a delivery date and time and then my new washer came. Yay, indeed.
But there was a time when I was living in a different place where using AHS was very challenging. They refused to get me somebody who was local. My claim was for a dishwasher and the tech was gonna be driving over 60 miles. He also canceled a couple of times. I was never able to get anybody to look at the dishwasher. So, I was not satisfied with that. AHS eventually sent me the cash equivalent but I rather have the issue taken care of than shop and deal with all that stuff. I understood that I was living in a more remote location but it was just a challenge to work with them.
It would be nice if AHS strove to use local companies. if something is going on, it makes sense to have somebody within a few miles. When I had my water heater replaced, the contractor was 80 miles away. That's with me being in the San Francisco Bay area so there were a lot of companies that could have been chosen. Other than that, this last time, it couldn't have gone any smoother. I was very satisfied and I recommend AHS.

They weren't able to help with it at all. They didn't even respond to my emails or calls. They were minor repairs. But that was a major point that was a deal-breaker. I understand it was my fault, but you can still file the claim. It's also getting too expensive. I don't think appliance fixing is that expensive. I'm paying $720 per year on insurance and then they charge a minimum of $100 for visiting. That's straight away $820 if one of my appliances goes bad.

But the guy that first looked at the double over under oven didn't understand it. He couldn't even communicate with me as to what he thought it would be. He said, "I have no idea. I'll go back to my manager." That was the end of it until I called. He didn't have any answers. He just walked away from the thing.
The second gentleman from another company that came out was very good. He knew what the problem was. I thought it was and he diagnosed it to be a temperature control problem in the oven, as far as holding the temperature that they were set to or if it went below the temperature it was set to, it wouldn't turn back on to come back up to that temperature. He will go back and relay the problem back to AHS and do further research on the replacing that whatever has to be replaced that controls the temperature of both ovens, and get back to me. He was very helpful and professional, and he communicated very well. Everything has been working great since the repair. They ordered the part and came back out. In fact, it was one of the few times when they arrived at the time they said they would. So, that was really nice.

The amount that American Home Shield charges me for having somebody come to my house is $125. I can get the same fix by calling a local handyman for 50 or 60 bucks. So, they grossly overcharged. They might come and do a five-minute repair, and you're still going to be charged $125. If it's a three-hour repair, it's still $125. So, it seems to be excessive, but I understand why. So, I don't hire them and I get somebody else.
I'm protecting myself against the long side. If my refrigerator or my dishwasher had to be replaced, then they work in my favor. It's just the charge for just the handy person coming is more than excessive, but that's true of all insurance companies. They are all robbing you in the short term and hoping that you don't have a long-term problem. As far as the customer service, they're okay when I call them. I don't call them that often, so they're making a lot of money on me but when I do, they send somebody quickly and the person they send is good. So, they're doing their jobs.

I like the peace of mind I get with American Home Shield. Recently, I had claims for a dishwasher, oven and refrigerator. The same Sears tech came out on two separate dates. It took a bit of time but we're in a rural area so it's not bad. He was friendly and professional. I'm still having an issue with the refrigerator. The tech said he was gonna have to research the part. This is on Sears' end so it's not American Home Shield's fault. He scheduled a date and said that if something happened, they would go back to American Home Shield and see if they could get a replacement.
August 2nd came and went and I didn't hear anything. When I called Sears' line, they told me that the part has been ordered but there was no ETA. I called AHS and they told me that they got Sears online and told me the same thing. So, the status is unknown at this point. AHS also said they were escalating it and I'm supposed to get an email in a day or two. That was the day before yesterday so I'm gonna give it another day. Other than that, AHS has been great. They gave me a Lowe's gift card to replace my oven which was no problem at all. My dishwasher has been fixed too and it was done right away. This year, I was actually gonna cancel because they raised the price of the warranty by almost $30 a month. But they gave me a discount for two months, which brought the monthly price back down to the same thing it was so it's been okay.

It was a good experience with American Home Shield. I also had a claim for my air conditioner and the tech said it'd be a couple of days. He repaired it and then, it went out three days later. American Home Shield got me help as quickly as possible. The company they worked with is really good. We had to have the air conditioner repaired. It wasn't working correctly and it turned out they needed to change a circuit and add Freon. I had to pay for Freon. They covered $10 per pound, and the Freon is $120 per pound. It’s really expensive but it is what it is. In this particular case, it wasn't a benefit because I paid $100 service fee and then ended up having to pay for the Freon, too. If I just called an AC guy myself, then that $100 would have gone towards part of the Freon and the service call. Other than that, everything was great. For future repairs where I don't have to take on a big expense like Freon, it will probably be fine.

I had a recent claim to American Home Shield for the air conditioner, and my experience was really nice. The process was easy and convenient. The two technicians were very courteous and professional, and explained quite a few things to me. They had to replace one little thing. I've had them twice now with American Home Shield, and they've been really good both times. Having the policy reduced the amount of cost that it would have been for us to have called somebody to come out and take care of one electrical problem in the air conditioner.
Our air conditioner technician did bring to our attention some things. It would be for future things that may occur. We have two units in this house, and the unit that was giving us problems is upstairs. It's probably wearing out. It's getting old. The tech was able to recharge it, give it some extra charge, and it helped a little, but his recommendation was it's gonna need to be replaced. We're gonna have to read in a little bit deeper into American Home Shield's policy to see if they're gonna cover it 100% if it breaks completely, or can we proceed forward with getting it replaced. I got an office upstairs and I got my windows open. It's better for my windows to be open than it is to really run the air. So, we do have some issues there so we need to investigate that a little bit. Other than that, the cost of having AHS is well worth it.

My air conditioner stopped working. The technicians came out the same day. We could have had American Home Shield supply the parts but we would have had to wait at least two weeks. Because it was well over 100 degrees here, we couldn't wait that time. So we ended up paying the difference between what American Home Shield would have paid if we let them get the parts, and what the technician had to pay for the parts. It cost us a little more but it was worth it to get the job done more quickly.

Phil's Good A/C did a good job. The AC wasn’t cooling and the guy figured out what was wrong with it, and fixed it on the spot. American Home Shield’s customer service was pleasant, friendly and tried to figure out how to fix it. I have had trouble with AHS in the past but it all got resolved and they seem to hold up to their part of it. We had a claim on a refrigerator and a dryer and it's supposed to be if they can't fix it in three visits, they would replace it. Instead of doing that, they sent another company out, which came out numerous times. Then, that company was supposed to tell them that they couldn't get it fixed and that company passed the buck. Another company came out. It took us nearly a year. But AHS finally replaced the refrigerator because they couldn't fix it.
The same thing happened with the washer. They kept saying the part was on backorder and sent the company out several times. It took quite a while before they finally said, "All right." And then, I had to escalate it up to a higher person to get them to finally say they were gonna replace it. We weren't happy with taking over a year to get that refrigerator. The price was fairly cheap until AHS replaced the refrigerator and the washer. Then, it went up $30 and they said it was not because they replaced that stuff. They said it was because of the cost of living. But it was awfully convenient that it was right after they replaced the stuff. It was because they had to replace most of the items. But that's not what they claim.

When making claims with AHS, I call, they collect their $100, then I wait probably a week for another company to call. Then that company calls, schedules a time, and they eventually show up, make an assessment. They wait for parts to come back, and make another appointment, and hopefully, it's completed within that time frame.
I've had two claims recently. One was for my dishwasher and there was a part that wasn't available. The company they sent was very good. They wanted to find the part but it was so hard to find so they wound up pushing the repair back two months. But they found the part and completed the job.
I had a bad experience with a company that came out for the washing machine six times. Each time, they didn't complete the job. In the system, it said it was complete but it wasn't. They said it was some kind of error and it was American Home Shield's fault. They just wound up zeroing out the unit and giving me a Lowe's credit where I had to go for my replacement washing machine.

My unit stopped cooling and the techs put some coolant on it, and the unit started cooling again. Then about a week and a half later, it stopped cooling again. So, I called again and the techs came out and said that I needed a replacement coil. I had to do multiple follow-ups during the claims process. The company that I was trying to work with had a call center based out of India so it was extremely difficult. Then, I called American Home Shield and ran into the same issue. And then they told me that A1 Air Conditioning stated that the claim was denied. They bamboozled me.
I couldn't understand what they were saying. Even though the contract said very clearly that it should be covered, they said my unit wasn't up to code, which is completely incorrect because I've had someone else come out and deny that. I called AHS and again, they said it would be denied because it wasn't up to code. So, I'm now going to be canceling. I've found somebody else. It's under warranty and they didn't even check it. I've paid into American Home Shield for five years and kept them because of something like this.

It was June the 17th when I called the contractor. They didn't come. I called American Home Shield. The initial complaint was my larger unit was not cooling. So, I turned it off. I stay in Arizona. And at the time it was 117, 118, 119, which yesterday was 115. AHS gave me them to come out. The guy came out that Saturday, which was the 23rd. Because everybody wanted air conditioning people. That was Monday. I waited. He didn't come out until Saturday. When he came, he said that he checked the Freon first and told my husband and I said, "You need some Freon." He said, "Checked everything else." He said, "But I'm gonna tell you this," he took us around the house to the unit, "whoever did your unit last time," which a guy had come out in February from Same Day Air because the heater wasn't working right. It was the heater then. The same unit, but the heating side.
"Checked it," and he said, "You don't need any Freon." So, he got it back to working. Everything was all right until summertime. We waited because it didn't start out as hot as it usually is. When the guy from the other company, the last one that came out, came and said, "You need Freon, and I'm gonna show you why." He took us around and said, "Whoever did this last time didn't put the cap." He showed us the cap. “He didn’t put the rubber back in the cap. And your Freon leaked out.” He said, "You see this oil? It’s stuck here. It is right here."
I took pictures of it. And he said, "When I send the report in, I'm going to tell them this is what happened. Freon will cost 1,500 and 2,200.” I put the least amount I can in. He said, "But you may consider that your unit is old. And AHS has a program where it will give you a unit or money to help get one. When I called AHS, I told them the guy hadn't sent the thing in yet from Blue Mountain. I said, “Give me the name of this company.” He gave me the name of it. I called AHS and told them I wanted them to come out and give me an estimate how much they would give me. And maybe would just get a new one.
They said it was only two companies. So, I told them, "Send me that Crispy Air." That guy came out that next Saturday. And he told us and went on. He didn't check it. He said, "I'm just here to tell you how much a new one will cost and how much AHS you for it.” It came out $1,500 and it was all they would give me. The unit costs 18,000. By the time he came back with the credit from AHS, it was $12,000.
I've been with AHS since I bought this house. We just bought a new unit four years ago that they wouldn't give us anything on. I didn't feel like arguing with them because my husband has been going through a medical thing for the last four years. We have been out of air conditioning since because we cannot afford to buy a new one. But I feel bad because I told many people about AHS. And I know one of the leading companies, I never thought they’d give me $1,500 if I go through Crispy Air. They sent me a text Friday evening after I called for a manager two times. One finally called me last week, "I'm gonna get to this. I'm gonna put it on ahead of everything. I'm gonna get back with you." I asked, "Did you guys get to see what the man said about the unit?” He put on the bottom of it, the cap was left off of the unit. And whatever Freon was in there leaked out.
AHS asked about the unit. They said that something else was out. They didn't say anything about Freon. But $345, I've been with this company since I moved here July 15th of 2000. Whatever they got, I did not ask, that guy didn't put on there no fan belt. I don't know who they got me. I talked to 20 people. Four years ago, I had to get another unit which cost $6,000. And even though we have that unit, when we got upstairs unit that's working, the coolest my house would get is 89. And it is still hot. But before then, and I didn't argue with them, they gave me $150. They sent a check. And the guy that did that was from Mechanical Engineer. I sent all kinds of letters to AHS telling that this guy told us that AHS gave us $3,000 on it. They lied. I asked AHS if they would they look into it. Never got anything back.
So to come out and fix the ice box, the freezer, stove or microwave, they're good at that. They automatically take out $82 a month on my debit card. And I get in trouble. It's hotter than anything here. And I have to beg them, call, sometimes I can't understand the people. And I still get ready because I know that they have a job to do. But when I asked them for a manager, "Can I talk to a manager?" They finally sent one. And he told me, "I'll get right back with you and see what we can do." He sent a text Friday night that somebody sent a text saying that they would give us $245 for the fan.
All my family has AHS. I'm not lying because I told them and friends. And we have our neighborhood thing and they ask, "What's the best home warranty?" I always go in there and put AHS. But after this and after that cooler, there's no way. I'm waiting and gonna get another home warranty. We'd be a fool to continue to stay with them. I deserve to be treated better.

I had a guy come out for a plumbing issue. I told him the leak was coming from the bathroom somewhere behind the wall. We didn't know where, but it was leaking down my garage. He looked at the ceiling and said he couldn't do anything and then left. He said I had to get some other people to come in to do some research or to check for mold. When the plumbers came out, they changed the inside of the tank. It was something I could have done, but they said that if I did it, it would void some warranty. The plumbers said they couldn't do anything until I had an asbestos sample and also for mold, and then they were gonna come back out. Then American Home Shield said that they don't cover it. So I went through my home insurance and once they do all the work, American Home Shield will send that plumber back out without charging me for him to fix the leak.
I had a furnace issue happen in March, and American Home Shield sent somebody out and said that it wasn't covered even though it was. I had to go through the Better Business Bureau to get them to cover something that was in my contract to cover. But it still hasn't been fixed. The contractor said they had to get some electrical work done before they could finish the furnace. But they never finished the furnace. Then they started asking me for money and they're the contractors with American Home Shield. American Home Home Shield was supposed to send out an electrician to look at that problem, but they didn't get that electrician out even though we had been calling until this week.
Finally, the guy looked and said that the outlet was fine. There was nothing wrong with it and then the other company is supposed to come out and finish the installation job, but then American Home Shield kept calling other companies to "fix it," but it doesn't need to be fixed, it just needs to be finished being installed. But they can't get the other company to come out. They just keep having other companies come. So I'm gonna have another company come and finish in installation and pay the first company for what they did. It's been awful.

We put in the claim a couple of weeks ago for our garage door to be fixed, and we have not been put on the schedule for it to be done. We already paid the initial deposit of $100, and our garage door is still messed up. But any technician that's been sent out to the house has been perfect. The only thing that kind of ticked me off when it comes to American Home Shield is the simple fact that I have the highest claim that they have but when a garage door is broken, they will not do the balancing and they will not replace grills. All that is still part of a garage door in order for it to open and close. That makes no sense to me, and there is no plan that will cover that at all. They really need to take into consideration that if something can't get fixed without something else that they know they don't cover, they need to specify that either in their policy or discount the price. But I have yet to find out if anything else is really nonsensible besides that.
When it comes to the AC being out, no one should have to wait over a weekend to be able to get on a list for a technician. When our AC went out, I had to wait a week in order to even get someone out here when it was supposed to be the emergency services type deal, and it was really not. In a sense, it was just a convenient thing.

Submitting a claim is very simple. I submit a work order and pay my fee and then American Home Shield sends somebody out. The issue gets fixed or it doesn't get fixed and I have to replace it. So there are a few things that have been not in our plan. When I had to have the garage door fixed, the issue was the spring broke and that wasn't part of the plan. But every time I've ever had to use American Home Shield, they've been very responsive. One thing that I don't like is that as soon as you put that ticket in, they automatically charge you that fee right then and there, even before they dispatch it to a company and the company comes out. I find that odd.
Within the last month, my air conditioner was not cooling the house right. So I went on the app and submitted a ticket. Two days later, I got a call from the servicing provider who was assigned the task. They came out, charged up my AC, and that was it. The tech knew right away what to look for and he had a pleasant attitude. He also told me I could call him directly.

I like the coverage and the ease of getting a service call and getting a claim filed and then getting the replacements when I needed replacements. The claims process is pretty simple. You go online and file a claim and then American Home Shield arranges the service. It works pretty seamless. The only complaint is the amount of increases I've gotten over time. Ten years ago, the rate on my primary residence was $55 and then it went up to $130, which was way too much. That was why I dropped the coverage on the primary and only have it on my rental.
I had a garbage disposal issue and a faucet was not rotating from side to side. The contractor fixed the garbage disposal and they supposedly fixed the faucet, but when I went back to use it, you could move it but it was way too much resistance. So I called for a follow-up on it and the same guy came out, looked at it, and said he couldn't fix it. At that point, I expected the faucet to be replaced but that wasn't the case. I called American Home Shield and they said they could send another person to come out as a third opinion and that it would cost me another $100. I told them that I was not paying for another person to come. I also told them that I would escalate it but I have not done it yet.

Right now, we have a floor fan. My daughter and I have been surviving. I was just getting a little frustrated for a minute there because of the heat and things are not moving like I wanted them to move. I have other things going on too.

American Home Shield has been so good. I call when I have a claim and customer service has been great. I had to replace the pump of my swimming pool and they sent some really good pool service men. I had other claims as well such as replacing gears and some plumbing. I appreciate the good service they provided and being very patient and nice with me as well as courteous and professional. I do need some more service done by American Home Shield and I will be calling them.

The refrigerator stopped getting cold. They assigned a repairman and he couldn't repair the part. They tried to order the part and it took longer than I expected. But the way things are now, everything is back-ordered. Normally, they get stuff resolved in a week or so. So, they emailed me and told me they were gonna replace my refrigerator. They gave me E-funds and we were able to go online and find a replacement at Lowe's. I highly recommend AHS. It covers everything in the house.

The AC wasn’t cooling good when we called American Home Shield and it took three days for the technician to come to us. Before he came, it started working. He checked it and everything was good. But in those days, Vegas was much too hot and the AC unit was so old, which was why it did not have the capability to maintain the temperature according to the weather. AHS is good but sometimes, their contractors are not good people because five months ago, I had a bad experience with them. I called them for the change of two electrical outlets and the guy came and said he was only allowed to change one. I told them my policy was to request three services from one department. At that time, we were paying $75 for each visit and now, it has gone up to $100 for each. The price is high.

AHS has a fairly reasonable cost and it doesn't break the bank. They've done good by me and everything has been fixed within a reasonable amount of time. Recently, I had a new air conditioner put in. The tech was very pleasant and gave options of two different kinds of air conditioners to pick from. He recommended one of them which I went with. I had to have it inspected and that took a couple of days to get done. Some adjustments had to be made. Outside of that, everything is fine.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Absolute scam of a company if you have an appliance with an issue that is difficult to fix. It’s been over 3 months since I reported an issue with my dishwasher. They’ve sent 3 different licensed, qualified and certified professionals to try to repair, and all 3 have said they are unable to repair. Instead of taking the word of those 3 professionals and deducing that it needs to just be replaced, they insist on sending a 4th technician to continue this endless cycle. This company refuses to hold up their end of our contract and replace my covered appliance when it is not repairable.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Matt. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

With AHS, I have to wait a week to two weeks to get any services because we live in a rural area and they have no contractors up here contracted through them to do the work. I've heard from other people who have worked for them that they don't get paid enough to do the job which is why they walked away from being the umbrella of home warranties. Other than that, we haven't had any issues. Recently, the heat pump was producing air that got too cold and it froze up. The tech overbooked himself by accident. It was irritating to have to wait, but it was understandable. He got to the job and they were able to get rid of all the ice and get us going.

My experience with AHS has been good. The only thing that's negative about it is they haven't updated the log-in. So every time, after I try to take care of any of the stuff online, it keeps throwing me back to 2022, so I will have to call in. We put in a claim for a dryer issue. The claims process was very smooth. It was automated and it was quite hands-off. And the people that they sent over, I couldn't say anything but super nice things about them. There was a second claim I put in. It was for an AC unit. Both of the technicians were very knowledgeable, professional, and efficient in terms of what they had to get done.
As with any other insurance, you never know what's going to be around the corner. The coverage for what's around the corner is unknown. More than the cost, it's just the headache of finding the right person for the job at the right time. That's the key benefit of having AHS. In our profession, we really don't have the band with time to build up that needed repository of phone numbers and names of people. This is where American Home Shield provides a gap in our lives.

I had an issue with my dryer. It was not heating up and then it was making a loud noise when it was on. I put in an online order with AHS. The tech that came out was good. It's doing well now. But I don't like the American Home Shield customer service. It's really bad. Someone just spoke with me last week and once I started talking about customer service, they hang up the phone on me.

It takes a while to get to someone when you call American Home Shield. They also don't cover certain things that I thought they do. I have the highest coverage with them. But if I have problems with flooding, they say they don't cover it. I pay my $100 every month and I don't see why if the flooding damaged something, it wouldn't be replaceable. Additionally, sometimes I have trouble with the people that American Home Shield sends out. They send out people who do the first assessment first. Then you have to do a recall for them to send somebody else out if you don't like the work that the first people did. It would be better if I could find somebody to come in to do repairs. One person they sent didn't do a thing. But they rectified it and sent somebody else.

I would recommend AHS. A contractor recently came out, did a survey of my leaky roof and fixed the problem. I had a couple of follow-ups for a plumbing issue. I called because I didn't know what to do, if I should put in another request online. They explained to me on the phone that I could just do a follow-up request on the website.

American Home Shield has made some improvements. Years ago in Texas, we had them and weren't happy with them at all. But I'm very happy with my recent claim experience. When I turned on the dishwasher, it flooded the kitchen. It looked like it was coming from both the sink and the dishwasher. I had a bit of a problem at first with American Home Shield because one is considered an appliance, and one is considered something else. They had to make it into two different claims. They didn't have any way to do it the way I wanted them to.
What they wound up doing was getting a regular plumber service at first. If it was the dishwasher only, he was gonna have to send it to a dishwasher repairperson then I'd have to have a second person in my house. I wasn't happy about that. It turned out it was the faucet and the disposal. It was crazy that they gave me such a hard time when I first tried to set it up. But they sent me this guy, Efren from Monterey, and he was fabulous. He put in to get a new faucet and a new disposal and American Home Shield approved it. Since he had to get parts, he had to come back.
They explained the coverage so well to me but their website isn't the greatest. I don't like the sitemap of it. It needs to get you to where you need to go quicker instead of routing you into places you don't need to go. I don't wanna see offers if I'm going in to file a claim.

Most of the time, the claim gets resolved. In another market, they always wanna decline the claims but so far, we've had a good experience here. I refer everybody to American Home Shield.

There's usually a quick response time from American Home Shield. When we filed a claim for a gas leak, they were efficient. But I didn't like the fact that when a plumber came here to do the job for a pipe that was leaking, he said he didn't have a part on the truck, so he needed to go to another job to get it. He said he'd be back in an hour which turned into four hours. Another time we called American Home Shield to get a pipe fixed, their contractor damaged my laundry room so bad that we had to take the flooring out. My wife and I were left to clean it up. We're paying a monthly fee, so we would like better quality professionals to come out. Other than that, American Home Shield is a great program.

I'm pretty happy so far with AHS. They have been surprisingly good. Insurance companies are notorious in serving you. But they have been very responsive. I also probably have saved enough money to pay them for two years. I pay $60 a month, and that's $700 every year. So it's good to get some of that back. When I had a dishwasher problem, I called them. They sent a technician within three days. He said he needed to replace a pump, so he ordered the pump. Three days later, he came and replaced the pump. I also got a new dryer from them today installed. Because the old dryer had a problem and it wouldn't work. So they said it needed replacement. Then the garage door wasn't working and they replaced that also.

I didn't like it when AHS eliminated in person contact. You can only contact them now by email through their web page and if you need to talk to somebody, it's pretty difficult. And it's farmed out overseas. That used to be local. But other than that, they've been reliable. I've had them for so many years now and the service has always paid for itself. I've had service on the water heater, AC, and electrical. I pay the monthly fee and I pay the service fee when the techs come out.
All the techs I've used were pretty good. But I'm never a fan of the plumber’s side of it. Every time I got to call a plumber, it's 500 to 1,000 bucks on top of whatever claim it is. I've had the water heater replaced four times in the last 12 years and each time there had been some $800, $500, or $1,000 code update. But I'm not carrying the thing up and down three flights of stairs either myself, so I get it.

We filed our claim for the water heater on Saturday and American Home Shield contacted us and let us know that they had sent the request to a provider, and they will contact us on Monday. The tech did an excellent job. The water heater had to be replaced because it started leaking so there was nothing they could do. There was no repair to it. AHS has been excellent at everything that we've ever had done. If something ever goes wrong, I don't have to come up with a gigantic hunk of cash all of a sudden to fix something because I pay in a certain amount every month and if I have a problem, it's taken care of. It costs me $100 service fee.

My air conditioner lost all the Freon. The contractor didn't find the problem at first. They turned in my claim so I had to call and reinstate it. I did that by phone and it took several days to find the problem. The contractor called me the same day and told me who they were and their phone number. They had to do some testing because they filled the unit up with Freon that first time. But in two days, it went out again. So the tech started looking for the leak, and finally found it inside the house in the coil. He had to replace the coil. I was very pleased with him. Overall, American Home Shield has been very good to fix things. I like it because I can just call or text in and get results pretty quickly.
