American Home Shield's price is a little bit stiff, but if it's an emergency, what are we going to do? Recently, the AC system was dead and I submitted a claim by phone. The AHS reps were very helpful getting me an appointment right away and assigning me the right service company. The techs came out but they had to come back because they had to submit an estimate to American Home Shield. Then it was our decision to either pay the part or find something else. So we paid the portion that we had to pay. The techs replaced a major part and they were helpful.

When the contractor did the fix on the water that leaked on my ceiling, they cut a hole on the ceiling and didn't seal it. I ask American Home Shield if they could fix it but they said they didn't have a contractor to fix it. They just gave me $100 to fix it myself. I told them I could not buy materials to cover for that for $100. I asked for a supervisor five times but they didn't care. I had another claim for the range hood. They told me they couldn't find the part and gave me $300 to fix it myself. But the range hood I went to buy was $370 and the installation cost was $150. I had to pay out of pocket.

Many times, I had called and waited. Then they transferred me to this person and that person. They always force the customer to receive a cash offer to save the money and it takes too long to process. They don't want to pay the labor for a contractor because it costs more money for them. The money they give is less than the value in the market. They try to save money and cut off the benefits for a customer. I spent more than six hours to fight them and canceled my contract right after that. I paid American Home Shield for three years but I didn't get the service.

American Home Shield has been horrible. They sent out Big Orange Plumbing to fix a gas leak to my rental property. My tenant had to have her gas shut off, so she had it off for a couple of days. When she had the gas company come out around 9 o'clock at night, my tenant texted me and told me that when Big Orange installed the new piping, he had nicked it. So, there was a gas leak. My tenant told the gas company to go ahead and do the repair because she couldn't be without gas any longer and I didn't have any say. I know that we're supposed to call back the contractor and so on. But I had to reimburse her.

The gas company charged me money and I've been waiting for a phone call back from American Home Shield for a month and a half now. When I called them, they told me that Big Orange never reached out to them. So, that's why they never called me back. I got irritated that I needed to be the one to reach back out to them since that company wasn't calling them.

Right now, I'm still trying to see if I want to keep American Home Shield because 9 times out of 10, the companies they send out always charge me money. This was the first time in a long time I wasn't charged money, but then I was charged money because it wasn't done right. I ended up paying $125 for the service call and another $83 to have him fix it the correct way. I also had a service call when my tenant needed the dishwasher fixed. There were four attempts to fix my dishwasher and AHS was not sending anybody out who was knowledgeable.

The AC unit was replaced on June 22nd and after that, I had to have Feels Good AC & Heating come out because it was not cooling. The next time I called was because water was coming out the ceiling. I called Phil and they said I needed to call American Home Shield and do a recall. I immediately did the recall, and they came out that same day. The sheetrock had fallen out of the ceiling because the condensation line was never hooked up from the very beginning.

The service when the water was leaking was terrible. The technician went up there and had us turn the AC on and off while he fixed the problem. Then he turned around, lied and said somebody else had been up there working, and it was why the water fell. I told him I have receipts from 2022 when I changed the sheetrock in that particular room. But he put in a bad report to American Home Shield and said there was nothing wrong with my ceiling.

I came up with a solution myself by calling American Home Shield and telling them I didn't feel comfortable with those people coming back into my house. I told them to give me one or two other contractors that they use. They gave me two and I called them, but they said that they didn't do inspections or a second opinion. At that point, I didn't have a choice but to deal with Feels Good. But it wasn't until I read my contract that I found out that they were supposed to give me a second opinion and that didn't happen until a whole month later.

I've been dealing with this since July 19th, and the second opinion is coming out on Saturday. I realized American Home Shield is going to try to take the side of the contractor so make sure that whenever somebody comes to your house, that you record them because it's gonna be your word against theirs. At first, American Home Shield didn't wanna deal with this and kept telling me to call the contractor myself and handle it. I said, “I wasn't the one that called them. I'm not the person that sent them to my house. You need to intervene.”

Our experience has been mostly okay except for two incidents that we weren't happy about and we felt didn't make sense. But that was in the first year. When we moved into this house, there was an issue with the master bathtub. Both the knobs of this tub rotated all around. It didn't have a stop to tell us this is where the water will stop. So, if the water ran, we had to figure out when the water would stop.

We wanted someone from American Home Shield to get that fixed. But the contractor came and said that it was because of wear and tear that it happened and they could not cover the cost. We would have to pay out of pocket. But we started living there a month ago. We asked them that it wasn't our fault. We didn't use this tub before. It was just a month old. But AHS said that didn't matter. It was wear and tear so we had to pay.

We asked for a second opinion from another contractor through AHS and they said, "If the second opinion from the contractor also says that it is wear and tear, then we will charge you another extra plus the amount for fixing it." So we ended up paying a lot of money. We paid $85 or $75 at that time twice. We didn't have any answers to that. We didn't fight it. We didn't say anything. But we have always been cautious when we ask AHS to send a contractor to fix things in the house unless it was necessary. Other than that, we recently had some issues with our dishwasher. We called American Home Shield and they sent us the details of the contractor. Whoever came did a good job. He fixed the issue and the dishwasher is working well.

By the time I got the appointment, at the time the contractor came, the AC started working again. I understand to a point it was more of like I am now, "Oh, it's doing all right. It's working. Can't do nothing." So, it didn't leave a good taste, but I didn't feel I got great service. It was more of, "I go to my next appointment," type of feel because not long after that, the AC stopped working again.

There have been several times in the past my wife and I called and needed someone to come out and service, whether it was plumbing or the washer, the dryer, or whatever, we had to find someone ourselves and to see if they were in with American Home Shield before they would come out. We had to do the groundwork ourselves. We didn't see eye to eye and at one point, we were to end the contract. But it has become gotten better now.

We used to do submit claims by phone, but we couldn't get any answers so she would go online. It used to be a time when almost three days before a vendor would reach out. But over the last year and a half, it has changed. It has become a lot better on the service calls. There were some people that had some bad attitude and didn't have good customer service. Now, we don't talk to anyone. It's done online. The contractors that come out have been respectful. They come in and do a good job.

My husband pays the monthly fee every month and it costs $100 for American Home Shield to come out and do whatever they do. Our washing machine sometimes messes up and the techs have to fix it. But we haven't had them out lately. We've been satisfied with everything. If we hadn't had AHS, we would have had to pay out a lot of money to have our washing machine fixed, because our house was built in the ‘60s, and it's in the kitchen. AHS is worth the price that you pay every month because if you have older appliances and they break down, if AHS can't fix it, they will give you the money so that you can get another one.

There were two things wrong with the stove and on one of them, the part wasn’t being made anymore. So, the contractor put through the claim to replace the actual unit itself. They were great. We live in a rural area and there are very few people who come out. so, it's hard to find a good one. It took us almost a year to get our dishwasher taken care of and it's nobody's fault but it was a combination of things that made the whole process painful.

Only The Best is local and they do a lot of things. I like being able to tell American Home Shield to contact them first if they're available because they now know our place and our stuff. It's not back and forth. It’s just like the old days when you knew who your service people were. So I like that they’re able to do that. They have always been responsive. I found that out after one of their calls several years ago. So I tend to want to request them because I know that they'll get back to me and they don't live an hour and a half away and will cancel the day that they say they're coming out. I've always found them to be professional and courteous. So I would highly recommend them.

I've been with AHS many years because we used them years and years ago in a different residence. And now, it's a little bit more difficult. The people who you initially call are lovely, but they're working from a script and it's hard to get to the point. It's just what it is. But in terms of eventually responding and being good to work with, things have worked out. The intention and the ultimate customer service are good. But, especially in the last several years, it's just a more difficult process in the sense it's frustrating when you first call in on the phone tree and you have to give your name, address, and all that information. Then when you get to a real human being, they verify everything again. So it's little stuff like that that are on the annoying side.

I'm a single person and I'm fairly handy but I can't fix a lot of what would be considered easy stuff. I’ve had American Home Shield for 11 years and the rate at that time was 50 a month and I thought that was good. But the rate has more than doubled. I haven't had to use AHS that much but now that my home is getting older, I don't wanna cancel them. The past two years when I got my rate increase, I was unhappy. It was such a huge increase so, I called them. The first year, they gave me two free months, which when averaged out, turned out to be close to what my old rate was. This time, they did the same thing. So, each year, I've had an increase but not quite as much as it initially looked like. I'm retired and on a fixed income and I don't call on them very often. So, I'm glad they're willing to work with me.

My daughter still has AHS but when the rate goes up, they might find somebody else. I started because of her with them and I'm a person who will stick with them more because I'm gonna need them. I know the system, except I don't understand how it works. I wish I understood more and that they had more room for comments when I submitted the service request. I did the service request online and I might have hit “Clogged drains” but you have no place to add a comment or a request. You just have to choose.

I'm usually not happy with Murray's. I made a note not to use them again but you don't have many options. There's a difference between incompetence and just not having good customer service. The first group was incompetent. Two calls ago I had another problem with the faucet upstairs and that was never fixed correctly. The guy didn't know what he was doing and he had to come back twice. It was a year ago but the faucet has never worked properly since. This time, the guy knew what he was doing. He unclogged the sink and installed two new handle vanity faucets. It was a cheap vanity. I would recommend AHS because I don’t have to hunt down a person for the most part. It’s hard to schedule people. But I wish I understood more about how they dealt with their vendors. Some of the vendors are very good about calling. Murray's not one of them. But the refrigerator guys are good. They call ahead of time and find out what's wrong.

We've had AHS for several years and the service has been going down while the prices keep going up ever since they were bought out by FrontDoor. Customer service has been outsourced to another country and it's frequently impossible to understand anyone that you speak with when you have a problem. The most recent incident is still ongoing. I put in a service request for my refrigerator that was not cooling on Aug. 18 and the technician was scheduled to come out Aug. 20 between 8-5. When he arrived he stated that we would need parts, ordered them and then stated that there would be no opening for the repair until Sept. 4. I received a phone call the morning of Sept. 4 stating that the technician would not be able to come until Sept. 18. A month without a refrigerator!

Upon calling AHS I was told that there was nothing they could do and no they would not compensate me for any spoiled food. I asked if I could hire someone local to do the repairs since I already had the parts and have them compensate me for the labor and was told that I couldn't do that. There is no way to register a complaint with the company, they make it impossible to contact anyone but the service or sales department. There is no accountability with this company and I would highly recommend NOT doing business with them.

That bothers me because I would like to be able to talk to a person and tell them what's going on before I'm charged a fee. Our AC was blowing hot air and it would shut off. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and that part was easy. But when the techs from Air Magic came out, they did all these different things. And it was over the summer when it was 118 outside. First, they said it was the batteries in our thermostat. Then they came out and changed all these things. But none of them worked.

Finally, a guy came out and he said something about the electrical work. So, an electrician came to fix something for him. Then he said it was our condenser and they wanted to charge a couple of grand. They were going to charge that to American Home Shield but we had to pay 900 of it, plus the Freon. But the electrician said that it was not the condenser and that the unit needed a new motor. They said it was going to be another two weeks to get the part. At this time we've been out of air for weeks. We live in Lake Havasu and we were dying.

The electrician was going to get the part for the Air Magic guy but he didn't have it. He said that if the tech needed to do the work, because it was under American Home Shield, he would get the part for him and he could put it in. The Air Magic tech said, okay but then he had another call. He was supposed to come back but he never came back. We then called another air conditioning company, someone who the electrician knew, and that company changed it for us. Then we sent the bill to American Home Shield and we told them that the people they called never fixed the AC. It was a terrible experience.

But American Home Shield did okay with our claim on a washer that went out once, and a toilet. On the claim for our swamp cooler, we had to wait over a year and a half to have it completed and that was a nightmare. But we had an AC, so we were okay without the swamp cooler. We've now canceled our contract with AHS but they still haven't got back with us, because we asked them if they could pay the AC company and the electrician that we had to pay. We sent them those bills and we still haven't heard anything. I would tell my friends to find another company. But my family members don't have to be told. They've seen what happened.

I've had Express come multiple times to my house to look at my air conditioner. But this particular time, there were two of them that came. My unit’s on the roof and he automatically did not want to go up on the roof to look at it. They came the week before. I've had them come many times and I haven't had an issue. He didn't even wanna take a look at it on the roof, so I requested to have someone else come out. They changed from Express to another company. That company came out and I didn't have an issue at all. I was fine.

However, I have to call them right now for the same air conditioning unit. I need them to look at it again. Every time I call, it doesn't matter how long it is, I have to pay another fee for the same thing. I've been paying this $125 fee every time, and I've had to get the same air conditioning unit regardless if it's to come back out and look at it again. I gotta pay another service fee. I'm satisfied with AHS except when it comes to air conditioner or heating issues. It's not worth it if you're doing it for that. If you have small appliances and other things, then it's beneficial.

When the techs come out, they're good. But usually, when AHS sends out a vendor, nobody contacts you. And they'll give you a date but nobody will call and tell you when they're coming, or they'll say it was delayed, but they don't let you know what's going on with them. That was the last problem I had with them about the air conditioning.

I had to get a new air conditioning unit they told me the date that the techs were coming. We waited but nobody showed up and nobody called. So I had to be on the telephone calling back and forth to try to find out what was going on. I understand that things happen, but communication is the best policy for anything. My father always said, "If you do something with somebody and you can't do it, you let them know what's going on and that will ease the person's mind." There is no excuse now. It's not like we live in 1940s where you got to send a pigeon. All you got to do is pick up the telephone. When the techs finally came out, they put a whole new unit in. I had to go through PowerPay to get it.

Other than that, I've been with AHS since 2009 and it's been great because at that time, my husband was in the military and I didn't have to worry about running around trying to find somebody to fix things. My cousin told me about American Home Shield and gave me the number. I called them and it was great for me for being a woman alone that I didn't have to go looking in the Yellow Pages and trying to find somebody. All I had to do was call American Home Shield to come out and fix whatever problem I was having. And I suggest it to all single women. That way, you don't have to worry about getting a stranger into your home.

With AHS, you got to pay to be a member and then you got to pay that vendor fee. And their price keeps going up. When I joined AHS, the price was $50 and now, it's almost $150. Then on top of that, the service call is $100. So, that's $250 right there that you spent. And that's what deters a lot of people. But I got involved for security reasons.

For my recent claim with AHS, they replaced a commode for me and it went well. They had to take my old one out. They replaced it with a new one because it was unfixable, they said. The claim process was good. It was easy to do, either checking off the phone or calling in and talking to an operator. It was also easy to get everything taken care of.

The times that I've used AHS, I've got a call back from whoever was gonna do the repair for me on the same day. If not, the next day. If it was on a weekend, it might have taken a little longer. The techs have always left the job and cleaned up, at least as good as it was. Sometimes, it may be better. They always picked up after themselves and took away anything that they replaced. I didn't have to worry about disposing of it. However, I was a little disappointed because when the new contract came up, the rate went up. It used to be $75 several years ago and it went up to $100. Now, it’s $125 a month. In addition to that, they raised my fee, whenever I call in to get it taken care of from 75 to 100. I was a little bit surprised at how fast that price increased.

I am satisfied with American Home Shield, but I was not satisfied with the last claim that I had because of the lengthy time. It was two weeks that I was out of hot water when the contractor told me that they had everything I needed to take care of it at that time. I just had no communication with them. They didn't contact me one way or another. It was sent in emails or messenger. I never really talked per se to somebody unless I called them. Then they would talk to me. But the techs who came out were wonderful. They assessed the problem and got me what I needed. But I still had to wait two weeks for the claim to go through. But AHS has taken care of everything I've needed. This is the third claim that I've had them to come out. They also came out for my stove and my furnace.

American Home Shield has been fabulous, and we're happy customers. I usually submit service requests online, and I always know I'm gonna allow 24 hours, but usually it doesn't take that long. They sent out Allen Appliance, and they were excellent. The technician was knowledgeable, and he showed up on time. We just couldn't get our refrigerator fixed. He tried a couple of times. It was something to do with a circuit board, and the result was we ended up getting a new refrigerator. We are still awaiting the payment, but I believe it's in the mail.

We had American Home Shield on our home we owned in Plano, and then this home we're in now, which has been here since 2000. We've been customers for a long time, and the home warranty is affordable. I recommend them all the time to people I know because they've helped us with ACs as well as our refrigerator, dishwasher, and plumbing. They're our first call and we appreciate the service. Everybody is very professional and attentive.

I'm not happy with American Home Shield. They just do a band-aid fix. I had to have someone come back out within five weeks for the same problem after one of the other persons was done. There is a problem with our AC system, and I had three different companies come out. They all said something else was different. The first two companies were good, but the last one was not. The last company wanted to charge me $800 out of pocket. American Home Shield is good if it's a simple fix, but it's not if it's a big fix.

I have a claim with American Home Shield right now. It's been almost a month and I still haven't received anything. It'd be nice as well if they brought their customer service back to the States. It's very hard to understand and deal with them. Their customer service is really bad. They also need to have an option to speak to someone.

I hate American Home Shield. It's been terrible. The only reason I've kept it is because it's an insurance policy in case my air conditioner dies out on me. Most of the vendors that they send are not good. It takes a long time to get people there and to show up. The callbacks are inconsistent. I've had a poor experience with them. I plan on canceling in the next six months.

I live in Houston, Texas. Air conditioning is important and it's expensive. I had one air conditioning unit go out at one point and the insurance covered it. So, it was nice that that happened. It's just they usually have low-quality people come in. I had a fridge that I called them out three times to fix and paid the 100 bucks three times, and they didn't fix it. They said, "It was this," and then it wasn't that. Itt was the same thing with my stove.

American Home Shield has been absolutely horrendous. I had an air conditioner go bad, and they were supposed to assign a contractor in 48 hours. Here, it's 100 degrees on the third floor, and American Home Shield tried eight different contractors, but none of them would come do the job. I'll call and I’d go back to them, and they’d say, “Oh, well, our dispatch team will work on it.” This has gone on for two weeks, and they still have not determined an authorization to approve, replace or do anything. They're impossible.

American Home Shield has contractors that they don't pay enough and they don't want to do the job. They know my unit is 30 some years old, and it probably needs to be replaced. It can't be repaired. The contractors have to provide their insurance for my building. It's a law there, and these guys don't wanna be responsible for their work. They don't wanna do the things that American Home Shield tells them to do because then they're gonna be responsible for damaging the equipment, so they just don't wanna do the work. I have two other contracts with AHS and they did the same thing to me when I had water heater repair requests.

Anything that's over what I pay in premiums, American Home Shield wants to make my life miserable. It wasn't always this way though. I was with a predecessor company of theirs called HSA that they purchased about six years ago. I've had them at least 25 years on the various properties, and it's really gone to crap. The customer support is awful too. It's overseas, and they lie, lie, lie. “Oh, we'll get back to you in 48 hours.” “We'll call.” “I promise to call you.” It's all, always, lies.

The contractors are doing the best that they can do. Every time I have a contractor come out, they basically say, "Here's our recommendations. We'll give it back to American Home Shield." American Home Shield will then say, "Well, we're not gonna try to replace, we're gonna repair." I have to go through the repair process a number of times when the technicians that they send out say, "Hey, this needs to be replaced." American Home Shield provides a good service, but when it comes time to really have it and it goes into effect, they're putting me through hoops that aren't necessary.

When Royal Flush came out, they made the repair and put in a new compressor. However, the unit still wasn't cooling and eventually, the compressor is still gonna go out again 'cause I had somebody else look at it. I travel for work and when I called in, it was after the 30 days. The frontline personnel said, "No, you gotta pay another 100 bucks to have Royal Flush come back out." I had to escalate that to the supervisor, and even then, the supervisor in the beginning said, "No, we can't do it." Finally, after threatening to leave and some persuasion, which it was only 30 to 45 days out, they decided to waive the $100 service fee to start another claim. I'm still having the issues with the AC unit and don't feel like it's doing what it is supposed to do. The unit is still not cooling as I would have it to.

I pay American Home Shield religiously on a monthly basis, about 50 to 100 bucks. I do my part by paying the premium, but when it's time for service, it's like they have all these objections and nos, and that doesn't feel good. This last instance, I didn't call them within the 30 days and they were gonna hold tight to the contract. What if I paid them in 45 days? They wouldn't like that. I was just outside the 30 days of the unit not functioning properly, but now they want another 100 bucks out of me. It makes me feel like they don't value me as a customer, that they just want my money.

We've been really happy with American Home Shield. We bought our house in 2019 and have still kept our subscription with them. We submit claims online and it's very easy. Every single service person they sent has also been fantastic, and our appliances perform better than normal. We have a really old washer and dryer that we've had to have serviced two times and it's still working. When I was nine months pregnant in 2022, our AC broke in the summer and they were able to get someone out there really quickly and they were able to fix it the same day. Recently, our air conditioning unit had an issue, and they had a guy come and fix it really quickly as well. It was nothing too serious. He just needed to adjust some settings. He was great.

Every time I think about canceling American Home Shield because I think, "I don't need it anymore," something major breaks at my house, whether it be the AC or something that's gonna be a lot of money, then I feel like it pays for itself. For example, the AC breakage would have cost me out of pocket $1,000 and it was only the $100 service fee plus whatever I pay monthly. We're first-time home buyers, and for us, AHS takes off the stress of anything major happening with our appliances, AC, water, etc. American Home Shield is pricey, but then again, it cuts the cost, especially if someone's buying an older home.

I am so disappointed. I have used them for 15 years and used to be great, but then again I barely had to use them. In the last few years I’ve needed them for my AC, fridge, and dishwasher. I live in Florida so AC is very important. I understand you must wait for a technician to come out. No problem. The issue is when they come out and have no communication afterwards. The first time they did end up fixing it and changing the motor. I paid 200 dollars for Freon and then a week later the house isn’t cooling down. Before the motor broke the air was cooling fine. After that, it broke again. They tell me we might need a new unit and they’ll let me know. Okay. Then I have to wait again for them to call me which they never do. You have to bother them to know what going on. No updates or anything. I eventually bought a new unit and I have to send the receipt to get some money back.

Same thing happened with the dishwasher. It’s been a month and they keep telling me I need a part and then don’t have it and it’ll take a week or so and don’t tell me until weeks later that they can’t fix it. And they didn’t call me to tell me this. I had to call them. And no it’s not 'cause they couldn’t get a hold of me. No one ever told me that was the case. Same thing with my fridge. I couldn’t wait any longer so I needed to buy a new fridge. The only issue that was resolved was the AC. Dishwasher still broken. I have switched companies. Such a shame because they used to be awesome.

I had to have a contractor out more than once because they didn't fix the problem the first time. The toilet had overflowed and leaked into the unit below mine. They came out to repair the toilet and it worked for a few days, but it overflowed again. They sent a different technician out. But the company's okay. They didn't fight me on the fact that the toilet was still broken. They just sent somebody else out.

American Home Shield were sending people out to repair the AC unit but it got to a point where the repairs weren't lasting. The contractors were adding freon but it would run out because it needed to be replaced. Right when I was pressuring American Home Shield to replace the AC unit, they told me that they could no longer insure it because it was dented from the baseball.

The person who owned the property before me had a baseball thing back there and I guess the baseball was hitting the air conditioning unit. But it didn't do any damage in the sense that the AC unit was working fine. I had been living on the property for almost seven years. They had been repairing it this whole time and we ain't played baseball that entire time. Now, all of a sudden, the fact that it's dented by baseball has become a problem and it's no longer insured. That left a bad taste in my mouth because I had to come out of pocket to replace my AC unit. That was a $25,000 fix.

The first time I put in a claim, it was fixed right away. I was very happy with it. But the original people that came out for my oven were no good. They came out in February and never came back. The repairman was being wishy-washy. American Home Shield ordered the parts and sent it to him. But he wouldn't schedule to come out here. By May, I was getting a little bit upset. I told American Home Shield that I did not want him back to my house. He wasn't returning my calls. He wouldn't even return their calls because they kept calling him and telling him to get ahold of me but he wouldn't do that. American Home Shield assigned another company who called me and came out immediately. They contacted American Home Shield and explained to them what was going on. It was the motherboard that went out and they couldn't repair it. My oven was replaced within a couple of weeks.

I have a stovetop and a microwave that I'm still waiting on. The guy has the parts, but he was supposed to ship them and American Home Shield was gonna give it to someone else. They called me yesterday and assured me that someone else was going to be calling me to fix those two appliances. But this has been going on since February. I've been with American Home Shield for three years and this is the second time that I've put in a claim with them in that time. Right now, I'm not very happy. They depend on the person that comes out. When the repairman came out, he said that he was over an hour and a half away and that he wasn't gonna come back out here until he had all the parts for all the appliances because it's too far of a drive. If American Home Shield is a good company, they would find a local contractor.

My dryer was not working and I had the claim put in for that as well. Instead of him asking to turn the dryer on, he said, "It's just making noise. That's the customer's responsibility. That's not under coverage." It's not working but because he said it was just squeaking, American Home Shield wouldn't cover my dryer. I went out and bought my own dryer.

American Home Shield needs better customer service. You call there and they put you on hold and disconnect you then you gotta start all over again. You never get the same person and I don't like that. When I would say, "I need to talk to someone more important. You guys are reading off of a script," they would say, "I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. Rest assured, I'm going to work on this. I'm going to help you and we're gonna get this resolved." But they don't follow through with what they say so why would the contractors they hire follow through with what they're supposed to do?

I told them they are taking the monthly money out of my account every month but they're not fixing my stuff. With everything that they've taken out since February, I could've bought a new microwave and a new stove. They advertise that your appliances get repaired quickly but I don't think that since February to September isn't very quick. I went through with Jasmine the other day and she was wonderful. She was helping me. She gave me a different company that's supposed to be calling me and didn't read off the script. She said they're gonna call me every day until this gets resolved.

My garbage disposal was making the weirdest noise, then after a while it got stuck. I made a claim with AHS and the tech from Ferguson & Sons Services came to check it. He ran it for a very long time then it started screeching really loud. So he said that there was definitely something wrong with it and he changed it.

When I submit a claim with AHS, I first do it online, then they'll call or text me with the information of who I should be expecting a phone call from so they can schedule me. Then, if I have any kind of concerns or if there's a company that's going to come out but I've tried reaching out and they don't help or call or pick up their phones, I call AHS back and we change it immediately to someone else. For my last plumbing claim, no one was picking up the phones at all at the first company that AHS assigned. There was no way of leaving any messages, too. So I called AHS and they gave me Ferguson & Sons then they came out right away.

There was another job that needed to be done, which was on my AC. There was some type of coil issue with it and it seemed that the gentleman who came out was still learning. So he was guided by his supervisor. But I had to call him back a few times and they were great about it. There was a part that still needed to be replaced and it was already approved, so we were waiting for it to get to its destination. I'm a very follow-up person, so I threw them a reminder about it. Finally, they sent the boss out and he was nice enough to come and double-check everything of what my concerns were. But I haven't had any bad issues. It was just something that wasn't running accordingly. The boss found out that the one that was learning forgot to turn on a switch and that was why we were having a change of temperature. But overall, they did their job. Everything was resolved and my AC has been working ever since without a problem.

I have a pretty good package with AHS and I pay no more than 60 bucks a month. I look at it like a storage payment even though I have to pay $125 for a consultation to come out. I can't really complain because if there's nothing wrong, they give you back your money and they don't keep the money for consultation because the gentleman didn't do anything. So when you call them back, they credit you your account. So I'm not going to complain because I don't need them very frequently and my monthly payments are pretty reasonable. I have a friend that lives in Florida and I advised her to go with AHS. So, she went with American Home Shield.

My air conditioning unit stopped working and the contractor said that was freezing up and they replaced whatever part needed to be, and replaced the Freon, which was terribly expensive. I was not happy with having to pay $1,300. American Home Shield said they only covered 10 pounds, which amounted to $100. I inquired on if they had a policy to cover it and they told me they did, but they told me I had to call six months in advance to the renewal in order to change my policy. Other than that, the AC has been working fine.

Foxcroft came out and put some coolant in our geothermal heat pump because we had a leak in it. And it lasted for five weeks, but nothing happened after that. They were supposed to come back. So, I called American Home Shield and they got a bill for $5,000 saying it was fixed. It was hard to understand. I said, "No. They didn't." And they read off about these parts and I said, "No. All they did was put the refrigerant in. It's not fixed." So, we ended up getting a buyout from AHS for $1,300. It will cost us probably 5,000 to get this thing fixed. And if that doesn't work, we have to buy the whole thing, which will be 23,000. We will just have to put a new furnace thing in because of that.

Some of that might have been because of COVID and we had a few problems during that with them. So they had a hard time following through, but they did sooner or later replaced something or at least gave us the money to replace something. It took a while. I don't know if it's still the supply chain normality. Either that or it put us back and took months to get something fixed. But they're trying. In the end, stuff has been fixed. It just takes a while to get it done.

A lot of times it was hard to understand the people that I talk to. When we first went with them, they always have a questionnaire at the end and they would have ask me six questions. Now, they just ask two and one of those questions always was, "Can you understand the person you were talking with?" So, the last couple of times, it has been good. I was able to speak to them.

A couple of times this one lady called and I could hear birds in the background. I said, "Where are you?" She said, "I'm in the Philippines." I said, "Oh. Because I can hear birds." She said, "Let me shut my window." So, I don't know if she's in the middle of the jungle. It wasn't that I couldn't understand her. It was comical that there were birds and I could hear them outside. We talked with another lady and she had a little puppy that was trying to get over in her lap and my wife said, "Maybe you should take care of your puppy." But it was nothing taking away from anything.

The other thing we're dealing with is a freezer and we're waiting for the parts to get here and they finally just got here. And I have a water heater that is going out. But they're working on that too. I'm not sure about the water heater because my paperwork here that AHS sent us says normal wear and tear. Everything is covered if it's normal wear and tear and it's in bold writing. And it also says misinstallations, rust and something else. My wife got an email back saying it doesn't cover normal wear and tear.

There's always a lot of paperwork or red tape. So, I'm a little confused about that because we have two homes in Arizona and the other one was we had a problem with the plumbing and they said, "That's not normal wear and tear. So we're not gonna cover it." Now we're having normal wear and tear and they will not cover it. So, something's wrong. They always charge $100 for the person to come out. That's fine. Now they're gonna charge me 350 more to get a new water heater replaced and I don't understand that. This is at our home here in Ohio. But out there, we had a whole water heater replaced and just for the $100.

The rep said some of it is covered. We now have to share the cost when I have been sharing the cost because I pay AHS a monthly payment at least $270 a month to keep them for each one of my homes. I have three homes that are on this and Ohio is more expensive than Arizona is for some reason. But most of our stuff, we've either had repaired or replaced. We had one refrigerator in Arizona at one of our homes that never got replaced. I don't know what happened there. We can't figure that out.

My experience with American Home Shield has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. After paying the service fee for a technician to fix my air conditioning unit, I was told I needed to pay an additional $655 to manipulate the report for coverage, which I found completely unethical. Even with evidence of this proposal, AHS denied my claim under the "bio-organic growth" exclusion, which I believe is unjust. Despite countless calls and emails with customer service, my issue remains unresolved. I reached out to Alisa **, their media contact, at 888-454-7680 ext 2138 and via email at mediacenter@ahs.com, but this also led to no resolution.

If you're dealing with similar issues, I strongly encourage you to document everything and consider pursuing your case through media channels or legal means. AHS seems unwilling to provide fair service or take responsibility for their actions, so involving the media or legal professionals may be your best option. Don't let them get away with poor service—stand up for your rights!

Read their contracts carefully, because it is written so that AHS will only pay a fraction of the actual cost. My HVAC repair was estimated at $5000, and AHS offered only $400. They stated items needed to be modified and that isn’t covered, but the tech stated no modifications needed, only upgrades. I also tried to cancel two months later and their customer resolution rep refused to cancel my plan, so I filed another BBB complaint and disputed it with my credit card company. You will spend more time on the phone with them, than any other home warranty company.

That would be good to have back. Our experience with Majestic Custom was terrible. They had to come back. They didn't fix it right the first time, and it was 100 degrees. They stated I need refrigerant because there was none. They did clean my outside unit. They came two weeks later and put the refrigerant in. AHS paid $10 per pound, I paid the rest which was $390. A month later I had the same issue. I called AC company and they said I needed to go back through AHS. I called AHS and this company couldn’t come out, so a new one came out. The refrigerant leaked out and there were other issues the first company didn’t find. I have no refrigerant and need a new coil. AHS would pay for the coil and nothing else needed to fix the problem.

AHS will only replace your AC after you spend thousands of dollars and it cannot be fixed. Why would anyone do that? I took the cash out option and it was minimal dollars. I now have to purchase a new AC with no reimbursement from AHS. The worst part is one rep said if I send in my receipts, I would get reimbursed and another said no. I’m done with them.

American Home Shield pays, but they're a pain to get scheduled. Once you can get them scheduled, they're good. Our most recent service request was for the air conditioning. They resolved it. They replaced the part on it. Whoever they tried to get at first, the guy had a cold and couldn't come out. My house is right outside Savannah, Georgia. So, it was like 100 degrees and 90 something degrees in the house, and they wanted us to wait a week. I was like, “No. That's unacceptable. You need to find another company.” Then they said, “Okay. It'll be another $100 for a service call.” I was like, “No. What you need to do is go to whoever you gave my $100 to for their service fee and get it back from them and give it to another company. I'm not giving you another $100.” So, it was a little dust-up, but we got it sorted out.

My biggest gripe about them is that they have tunnel vision as far as who they're gonna use. If you can't get any service within two or three days, then you need to branch out and pick another company. They just don't need to be, “Well, this is our people.” They need to find other people. Other than that, they've covered everything that I've needed them to cover. Customer service is okay. There's a bit of a language barrier at times because I don't think that their call center is in the United States. They're pleasant. They just got issues figuring out what we're talking about sometimes.

My air conditioning went out twice, and then I had a refrigerator cooling issue at the same time. So, they would send somebody out, and then they would say it was fixed, and then the next day the refrigerator was back down. Then, I was dealing with the air going out twice. So, I had to escalate things all the way up to a manager and I rarely have to do that. But talking to the normal agents did not help me. So, the supervisor had to end up contacting the vendor themselves and getting the vendor to send out a specialist to work on my refrigerator.

The air conditioning did go out twice, but it was two different parts each time. I can't really hold that against Piedmont Mechanical but when they came out during that same period for my refrigerator, I lost hundreds of dollars in goods in my refrigerator and freezer because the person they had didn't fix it. I mentioned it to American Home Shield and they waived the service fee. It was a $100 service fee for them to come out. While that was great, it didn't equate to what I had lost, but I did accept it.

AHS sent out A-US Air Conditioning of Texas and it was a really good visit. Their techs came quickly and on the same day, they fixed my air conditioner. But I have been with AHS for 20 years and I will be cancelling them next week. They kept sending a vendor to my house to fix my dishwasher and they took two months to fix it. I kept calling and American Home Shield wouldn't help me with it. I kept saying that they were not fixing the dishwasher. They just kept leaving and coming back. And I kept asking to speak to American Home Shield's manager and they kept telling me they'd put me on a list and they'd call me in 48 hours. But I wouldn't hear from anybody.

Then, when the vendor caused a leak behind the dishwasher and ruined tile, they wouldn't come back and finish the job. The dishwasher wasn't attached to the counter and it would just fall out. So, I kept sharing my complaints and I told AHS that I didn't want them at my house anymore. But they wouldn't give me another person until, finally, I told them that this dishwasher was going to fall out and hit my granddaughter. And then would they come and fix it? So, they sent another company and they fixed it. But that was after me fighting with them for three months. And the vendor that they sent would never let me talk to a manager with them either. So, I had to replace tiles in my kitchen by myself at my cost. The only thing I got out of it was AHS promised I would never have to use that vendor again and that was the compensation for all the hell I went through for three months.

Also, when the rates went up last month, I was so frustrated. I can't deal with it anymore. Plus, they outsource their customer service and there is a language barrier. Once they've gone to whatever they're doing to be cheaper, I can't trust them anymore. I also can't trust the vendors they send and you can't request your vendor. It's a nightmare. I had the dishwasher go out again and I just bought a new one because I did not even want to begin that nightmare. Also, I googled the vendor they're using and the one that I had so much trouble with had many complaints. They don't speak English and they don't follow through. And people experienced the same thing that you can't talk to a manager. All the reviews said that American Home Shield made them use that company. So, they're somehow linked.

American Home Shield had three different people out here at different times, but nobody did anything. Wizard came out after Burleson came out and put in a used compressor. It was the wrong size. And it was a lemon. It didn't function properly. It broke down almost immediately. And it took AHS over two months to even have Burleson. AHS said they were reaching out to Burleson with no luck. So, I don't know who told is telling the truth. Eventually, they came out. But Wizard and Speedy Air came out and told AHS that it was a faulty compressor. The compressor has melted. It needed to be replaced. But AHS they did nothing. They kept telling me, "Okay. That's complete. Everything is good." "What do you mean everything's good? I'm still sitting here with a broken-down air-conditioning unit.” This one happened well over two months. And that was it.

Burleson came out and said, "The compressor is fine." The tech looked at the unit and said, "Oh, it's fine." And he said there were pinholes in the coil. His partner that came here prior, the one that put the compressor in said there were pinholes in the coils. I said, "Why are you telling me that now? Why didn't he fix it back then?" So, it was an excuse for him not to have to do anything else. And that was it. Never heard anything from anybody. I called and called but nobody would answer calls or I would get a runaround.

At the beginning, I called AHS the 1st or the 2nd of June. That was when they had sent somebody out here. It was Wizard. They told me it was a faulty compressor and heard nothing. He tried to fight for me and got nowhere with it. AHS sent Speedy Air out here. They said the same thing Wizard said and still didn't fix anything. He said, "The only one carrying the warranty is Burleson. The only one who could fix it is Burleson." I said, "That's not my problem. This needs to be fixed and then you can go after Burleson. Why do I have to sit here in a hot house at 87 degrees waiting for Burleson to respond? And it's been over two months."

I couldn't take the fighting with AHS and the heat anymore. My breathing was getting bad. My stress level was maxed out. I almost got a hotel so I could have air conditioning. Finally, I said, “I just gotta get a new unit.” So, I had to borrow a bunch of money. What good is having insurance for six years going to do for me when they did nothing except give me the runaround? I had a brand new unit by Wizard installed because Wizard seemed a good company and on the up and up with me about everything. I had them come Monday. I got air conditioning and it's fabulous, but it broke me. I got such a runaround and scammed for over two months, to the point that I put my own air conditioning unit because my nerves are shot and because of my health. Do not use AHS. You've been warned.

The guy that came out said that I would always have a problem because my unit outside was bigger than my unit that was in the attic. I had a 3 ton outside and a 2.5 ton in the attic. So, Republic just sent somebody out here to patch it up every year. And when I got with AHS, they did the same thing instead of them fixing it right. I ended up canceling AHS. I bought a new unit for the outside and inside, and I got somebody to install it. I haven't had problems since. Don't get AHS. It's a rip-off.

Immediate Air Solutions came out the first time to check my air conditioner because it wasn't cooling very well. They were supposed to have been here between 5:00 and 8:00, and they didn't show up until 9:30 at night. Then, they went up to the roof, looked at it, and they said that I had a wasp nest and they needed to take care of it, and then they were gonna come back. So, they didn't do anything and they were gonna bring the wasp spray.

They came back a few days later, and they didn't bring any wasp spray. Somebody went up to the roof, looked at it for five minutes, and they said, "There's nothing wrong with it." I have an old unit and that may be the reason why it's not cooling. They didn't check the coils. It needed to be cleaned because it was dusty. Nobody said anything about the wasp nest. They didn't bring any spray. All of a sudden, the wasp nest was gone. They left. They said that it appeared to be running okay. It was just an old unit.

I called back because it still felt like it wasn't cooling. Another technician came out. She went up there, she looked, and said, "Everything seems to be working okay." She emphasized that it's an old unit. It just may not be cooling well and that was it. She was here probably 10 minutes. I would have thought that they would have checked the Freon levels but there was nothing. It wasn't a good experience. I've had issues with them with other issues, too, with the home warranty. As far as customer service, when I call in or if I wanna dispute an issue, I have a hard time getting somebody to understand the problem. Also, my warranty just went up. I'm paying $100 a month now.

I’ve been using American Home Shield on and off for about 30 years. I pulled away from them one time for two years and went back because the other one was worse. In my most recent service request with them, I was upset because the girl didn’t explain anything. She thought that was the whole water heater. She just said $940 was not covered and she didn’t understand. It was showing as covered but AHS was not paying it. I got ahold of the contractor and AHS was paying for the water heater and the labor but they wouldn't pay for the upgrade for earthquake straps and the pan under it. Those were things that Las Vegas City has passed a new code ordinance that you have to have on it. I was upset that they didn't pay for that because I had nothing to do with it. But I understand their side and I had to pay for that.

The contractor I talked to came down on it. They let me pick up the pan and get my own permits. Because for them to get permits, it was $200. If I got it myself, it was only 55. It was 940 and it went down to 630. AHS paid for all the labor, for anything that had to be done, and the water heater. That was all that they warranty. So, I was wrong for getting upset. I was so upset but I can blame the city for that because they changed their codes. I am happy with AHS. The water is hotter than it's ever been so that water heater maybe was going out for a long time.

On the third appointment, they unplugged the line and determined it was the pump. They missed an appointment ‘cause they didn't know I had the pump and then went on like that. Finally, they came and installed the pump but it didn't work. They determined I needed a replacement. The replacement was delivered, but they would not install it until I had the valve replaced underneath the sink, which I did. They came back and installed it. American Home Shield is awful and I hate them. I was not happy with them at all. They were super quick to take my money and I had to do all the legwork. They're garbage and there's no type of savings. My air conditioner was on the fritz and I ended up having to call the air conditioning company because they weren't calling me back and then, they scheduled the appointment. It was Tuesday and they said they could come out on a Friday morning. So, I had to wait all that time. The guy said right off the bat that we needed a new air conditioner and it would cost $3,000. But they came back at almost $10,000. I mentioned it to a customer where I work because I cried the whole day after I got that quote and my customer said her husband owns an air conditioning company. It was a $500 part and I paid $500 to get it fixed.

I told American Home Shield what had happened and the rep said I’m not covered now if anything happens to the air conditioner because I went outside of the plan. I told them I wanted my $100 back and they wouldn't give it back to me. They're a rip-off and I'm in the process of trying to find another home warranty company. The contractor came and fixed the bonding on our pool. It happened quickly and it was very smooth. But I don't know if I would go back to American Home Shield because they upped my price without permission and renewed my policy. I caught it the day after, and I had stopped my account. I had it set for that specific amount to come from AHS, so it rejected the payment. My dad had AHS, they doubled his payment, took the money out. They're on a fixed income so it hurt them. Luckily, it didn't do that to me. They should communicate with their customers that they are upping their annual renewals. I don't know if an email had come out and maybe I just missed it, but I don't remember receiving anything. AHS upped their renewals by almost $70. It was quite a bit.

There were times that I was satisfied with the service, but I felt frustrated a lot with it. There were also times we've had people who came and tried to fix our dryer. We would spend almost $340 for them to come out, $109 each time, because it would break 30 days after, but that first payment didn't count so I would have to make another one. I ended up throwing the dryer away, so I didn't even get my dryer replaced. The plan that I got was supposed to be the best plan to cover electronics in the house. So I figured it would be a good plan, but I didn't feel like it was done correctly on all things.

Most of the time, the service people that came out were nice. I didn't have a problem with the service once they got out here. But there were a couple of times -- especially with the dryer when the dryer broke -- that we waited and waited. And I would have to call AHS and say, “Nobody's coming. What's going on? We don't have an appointment.” So we were going to the laundromat, trying to do our clothes. I would not go back with them.

The first time they were here, they didn't even check with the gauges for the pressures. The second time they came, they added some freon to the system, and it was only a matter of a couple days. I can't believe that the system would have leaked that much in two days. The second guy American Home Shield sent went upstairs, went through the scuttle, got into the attic and found that the coil unit was frozen up. Once we unfroze it, the system worked fine and it's been working fine ever since.

I had a ceiling fan that was not working properly. When I called in for the service call, I told American Home Shield exactly what was going on with it. So, they took the $75 and then they sent a service guy out here. He could not fix it because he said they didn't do that kind of work. So, I called back and I told the lady exactly what the ceiling fan was doing because it was like the blades were off and it was kind of growling a little bit. She said, “Well, the person that came out said that they didn't do electrical work. They would only fix the fan.” I said, "Well, I couldn't tell exactly what was wrong with it. I just know that it was wobbling a little bit and stuff like that.” I described everything that was going on with the fan.

What the guy said was, "Well, we don't do electrical work, so I can't fix it. It looked like it was coming down from the ceiling. That would require some electrical work. So, we don't do that." I told Home Shield, "You guys need to refund my $75 because I did not get the service that was required." They never gave me my $75 back. I wrote them letters. I wrote them emails. I did everything. Each time that I talked to somebody, they said that they were gonna turn it over to somebody and have them review it, but I've never heard one thing from Home Shield.

Overall, my experience has been okay. It's just that one thing that I was very unhappy with. They should have refunded my $75 because they didn't do anything. I had to end up calling a handyman out to fix my fan. So, I paid double for that. It was very disappointing when they said they were gonna turn it in to somebody else that can make a decision and I never heard from them. I've gotten calls before where they said, "Have you had any issues with Home Shield?" I tell them the same thing, “Still, yet, I've never heard anything from Home Shield.”

Submitting claims to Home Shield is okay. It all depends on what time of day you call. You might have to wait a long time but that's expected because everybody's busy. Sometimes, I got a callback because I waited so long. You can leave your number and they call you back. You get in line for the callback, but that's okay. They've got some really good contractors that have done a really good job. So, I'm satisfied with that. When the people come out and they can fix the product, they usually fix it. So, I don't have any complaint about the service people.

The repairs have been good. Home Shield is gonna repair it if it can be repaired because they don't want to replace it. Except for my washing machine one time, they had to replace that because the guy kept coming out. I kept calling them because I have 30 days. It wasn't working in 30 days. He had to keep coming back out. He finally said, "I cannot fix this washing machine. So, I'm gonna turn it in and tell them that they need to replace it."

The impression that I had been given was that having the policy would protect me in case something went wrong with the air conditioning unit. But the reality is American Home Shield claimed that I had somehow abused the system even though I've never physically touched it so ultimately they did not pay and did not cover the repairs that were needed.

The contractor looked at the system and saw that there was a double filter on it. Apparently, according to American Home Shield, having the double filter voided them of any responsibility, but that was the way the system was when we bought the house. We had had maintenance done by them and a repair done previously by them. Even with this supposed double filter thing that they covered and paid for, they never said to us anything about us have this setup and that if we'll have a problem, they're not gonna pay. The whole thing came as a shock. If I had had more time and energy to fight them on it, I would have fought them further on it. It was a total sham that they didn't pay for the repair.

I've heard negative things about several home warranty companies, but this was really upsetting particularly because they had boasted about having a certain dollar amount allowance specifically for air conditioning repair. That was the reason I went and reupped for the second year. To find this little caveat that they were claiming felt very shady. We were left for three weeks without air conditioning, living in the desert. Then we ended up having to pay out-of-pocket for it to be repaired.

Then, the techs came out and said it needed to be replaced. They were doing the job and looking at the right thing. And they were making the right call. AHS gave me a couple of remedies and there was a pool company they recommended, but I didn't use them because they were too expensive. So, I used my own pool company and I took the cash settlement. AHS would allot $3,000 per occurrence and they paid me $3,000 for this one. Since the replacement, everything has been great.

AHS assigned East Coast Appliance to my claim and they took a really long time They didn't get anything going. It took their tech over two weeks to order parts, then it took another three weeks to get the parts in and come out. His communication was really awful along the way. He eventually came back out and fixed the issue. My last service order was through Tommy D Appliance and they were great. But the ice maker is broken again and it was broken within two weeks. I just didn't feel like dealing with it. Other than that, most of the people and my experience with American Home Shield has been pretty good overall.

My air conditioner unit went out, and I wasn't happy with the people American Home Shield sent out here, Myers. They suggested that we get a new unit and American Home Shield covered a lot of it, but we still had to come out of pocket quite a lot of money. I thought the policy paid for the new unit, and it didn't. My husband said installation took forever too. It was really hot, and it took five weeks or more. There was a middleman, and when we ordered one unit, they didn't have that. So, we had to go back and they had to resubmit more paperwork that we had to pick out another unit with, then they had to find out if that unit was available. It was a mess. All in all, American Home Shield is good, but we're not satisfied with the people they hire.

For my recent AHS claim, our AC wasn't kicking out enough air. When the techs came out and did the job, everything was fine. The techs were good too. They came out on time like they said they would. I thought it was the air conditioner again and they found out it wasn't the air conditioning, it was my heating system. I wound up getting a brand-new heating system. All I had to do was pay my co-pay which was only $100. AHS really did a good job. Whenever I call AHS, they're on time. The techs come right out. When I'm putting my order, within 24 hours, I'm getting a call. I also put in an order two weeks ago for my sink. My pipe kept slipping when I cut my disposal on. The techs came right out and were gone within a half hour. They did well.

This is the fourth visit on the same problem with the refrigerator. I've had to pay out of pocket $400 because every time I have to call AHS, it would be $100 if I wait over 30 days.

With my other home, at least AHS would talk to me and they could get me to a second level. AHS' operator said, "You have a deal where we're gonna expedite your service." I've never been called back on any information. Last time, she said, "We'll expedite this to get it out quicker." I said, "No, ma'am. Don't do that because whoever you send that to, they don't answer either because nobody has communicated with me." They said, "We're sorry. We're trying the best we can." I said, "This is ridiculous. It takes two months to get something fixed." They said, "We understand." No they don't. Because if they do, it wouldn't have taken two months.

On the first claim I put in for the washing machine, the guy said he couldn’t do it until the 15th and I told him I couldn’t wait for 15 days. He couldn’t do it within the 10 days that American Home Shield asked them to do it. I needed to call AHS back and talk to them to see if they could send somebody else out. The other gentleman came before 10 days but we had to order the part and I had to wait a week before the part came in. So it still took about 10 days. But the gentleman did what he needed to do. He was very nice and touched base with me. He let me know that they had to order a part and once it came in, he called me and came out on that afternoon, which was this past Monday. It took about an hour and a half because where the hose was located was hard to get to. But he tested it and everything worked. I've been using my washing machine since Monday and it's been working fine.

People should get the warranty from AHS but they should be aware that the fees go up yearly. AHS didn't let me know that my annual year was up. Then everything increased. I know everything is increasing because of the economy. But it's cheap and easy because I don't have extra money to buy a new washing machine at the drop of a dime.

If I could give a negative number of stars I would. This company collected premiums for months from me. When I developed an air conditioning problem I forgot I had the policy and called a local repair person in. He looked at it and said the unit is 20 years old and leaking refrigerant. You could add refrigerant but it will leak out again and that the unit should be replaced. I remembered I had the policy and called American Home Shield. They charged me over $100 to arrange to have a tech come out to evaluate my system - like I need help doing that. When the guy came out they only wanted to add refrigerant which I had to pay for that cost another $200. So what exactly am I paying premiums for? The unit needs to be replaced. They just kicked the can down the road and opted not to do anything. All costs I paid. I called and cancelled the policy since it was clearly useless. Now I am getting email saying they're going to turn me over to collections for a policy I cancelled. Negative 5 stars. Usless company. Fake insurance. You pay premiums for absolutely nothing. In the end they don't actually do anything.

My water heater went out and I called American Home Shield because I’ve been with them for two years. Home Service Corp. came out but it took them a minute to fix it. They ordered a part. So, I had to wait back in line. It took about a week for them to come back out and then, I had to reorder the part, so I had to wait another week. I didn’t like that about them. Once they get the part in, the technician should come in and fix the part, not put you back in line when the next service individual is open. It was a long wait. But other than that, they finally resolved the issue and the technician was great. I also didn’t like that I couldn’t contact AHS with a complaint if I had one. They give you a number that goes directly to a service center. I can't contact them with this information so that’s not good because I pay them, not the service individuals. Or AHS pays them because it costs $100 for them to come out.

AHS assigned Pure Pool to my recent claim and I don't have any problems with them. When they schedule, they come on time. And they update you on what's wrong and how they're going to fix it. And as soon as we agree and I understand what went wrong, they will go fix it. Also, American Home Shield's customer service reps are very respectful and prompt in providing service. They provide the name of the contractor or when I'm going to expect to be called by them.

But I have a lot of bad experience with American Home Shield per se, not the agents. Most of the time, they would tell me that my claim is not covered and it's like I'm paying them but they're not covering anything. So my experience with them is not perfect and I would not 100% recommend them because of that. It's not all the time that they cover what I expect to be covered as a wear and tear issue. For example, my washer is old and a lot of things would start to break down in it. But AHS would say that I intentionally break things. Why would I do that? It’s beyond my control because the unit is old.

Other than that, I've had some good things with them, mostly for the pool pump. It’s because when it was broken, I bought a new one, so every time there's something wrong, they would fix it because it's new. But for the rest of my appliances, because they're really old, if something went wrong, they always say it's not covered. The only reason why I stay with them is because they have the coverage for the pool and I haven't found any other home warranty that I could shift to. Also, when I would try to call and talk to a supervisor, I have never talked to anyone.

Here’s what to expect… Extremely Disappointing Experience with American Home Shield – No Resolution for Over a Month**. I’ve been dealing with American Home Shield (AHS) for over a month regarding a simple dishwasher repair, and it’s been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had with a home warranty provider. Despite multiple technician visits (three, to be exact), the issue with my dishwasher remains unresolved, and communication from AHS has been abysmal.

The most concerning part is the lack of accountability and respect for my time. I’ve had to take days off work, only to have the technicians either fail to repair the appliance or fail to show up entirely. Promises that parts were ordered were never fulfilled – I was even told parts had been delivered when they hadn’t, and the control board, a critical part, never arrived. To make matters worse, during one visit, the dishwasher emitted an electrical smoke smell after the technician worked on it, raising serious safety concerns that AHS has yet to address.

One of my contracts was canceled without my consent, even though I specifically stated that I wanted both contracts canceled if they couldn’t resolve the issue. Despite countless calls, emails, and promises of supervisor callbacks, I’ve been left waiting for over a month with no real solution. Each time I call, I’m met with more delays, empty promises, and zero accountability. While AHS did offer me one month of free service as a “compensation,” it’s laughable compared to the time, money, and energy I’ve wasted. I’ve had to spend hours on the phone, repeating the same information, and still, I have no resolution.

If you're considering American Home Shield for your home warranty needs, **be warned**: the service has been unreliable, and their customer service is unresponsive. The amount of frustration and lost time far outweighs the value of the warranty itself. I could have replaced the dishwasher on my own for less than the cost of my contract, and I would have had it installed the next day instead of waiting indefinitely for repairs that never seem to happen. Save yourself the headache – look elsewhere for a home warranty provider. My experience with AHS has been nothing short of a nightmare.

The AC had just gone out and we were closing the next week. So, we needed to get it done. The first tech said that the compressor needed to be replaced. We wanted to get a second opinion because they said it was preexisting and we needed a second opinion to say it wasn't. It just happened. The seller had to have an estate sale, a garage sale inside without any air conditioning. She wouldn't have planned that if the air conditioning was out. So, we had to wait a long time. Their other house in Idaho was gone and they'd already sold it and all their stuff. So, they moved here and stayed in a hotel one night.

We kept thinking they were gonna come back with a second opinion. And they didn't. American Home Shield was dealing with this and finally, the tech came out and said all it needed was something very minor. If you did that, then it needed a clean-up kit. The tech said there was nothing wrong with the compressor. And we waited all that time with these people. It was so hot. They finally went out of town to some family's place to stay. They were beyond furious. The first person who came out told us the wrong thing, which was why it happened.

I have been with American Home Shield for probably 16 years and I refer it to my clients. There are problems with all home warranties and things happen. Not like this should have happened. But my area representative is very helpful. We tell all of our clients to call us if there's a problem. Then we get with her and she helps us work it out. But sometimes, they don't always call us like we ask them to. And we also say, if they don't like the technician, tell them they want somebody different and send him away. But these people didn't know the difference, whether what he was telling them was right or not. And other home warranty companies that had started, promising all kinds of stuff, are out of business. American Home Shield is still in business. I don't wanna refer my client to somebody who's gonna be out of business, no matter what they're promising. So, it always ends up, in the end, all right. But this time, I couldn't say that.

My last claim was for my washer, which they replaced three years ago. It went out. It locked and I couldn't get it open. We had to wait a week for the part and I had some pretty stinky towels in there. But the technician had been out here before and he was really good.

We've only had one bad tech in all these years. His truck was nasty-looking and then he wanted me to pay him our deductible when he got there. We didn't use him after that. Also, we had to replace our furnace and the tech came out and told us that we would have to go up to a different one. American Home Shield turned us down. I called and the rep said they replaced the rating on it and that they replace those every day. I told her the guy told me he didn't think an inspector would wanna climb behind the wall. She sent somebody else out, and we ended up getting a new furnace. They gave us $1,000 towards the new furnace because the other one was old. But that's okay. Other than that, it's still an excellent service. If I have a problem with a contractor and I just call them and talk to them, they'd send another contractor out.

When we had a problem with our washer, it took forever. A guy came out, ordered parts, came out, ordered parts, came out. My washer was not very expensive and I thought that American Home Shield would weigh out all of the options. It still isn't working right. I called them back after 30 days and they said I had waited too long. I've never had a problem with American Home Shield before that but I don't like the fact that they keep raising the rate every year. You're also on hold forever when you call.

Mid-South Contractors came out the initial day and told me what needed to be done. But it took forever for them to come back and do whatever they wanted do. They would call and say, "We'll be there in 30 minutes," or "We'll be there this afternoon," but they never showed up. This went on for days. I couldn't reach them on the phone to see when they were coming. I always got a recording and was leaving a message for them asking them when were they coming to fix my commode. We had one instance when the repairman said, "I had to take my wife to the emergency room and we'll be there shortly to do the work as soon as I get her out of the emergency room."

When they came back, the commode that they brought was not a quality commode at all. It looked like it was something that was bought at Walmart, but I didn't say anything because we had to have the bathroom fixed. They ended up fixing it until 11 o'clock at night. They said they didn't bring a line to place on the commode and went to several places trying to find it. They also left a baby out there in the truck running all that time. The new commode functions but it flushes slow. The seat I had in there was an oval, but this is not a contoured oval, it's just a little round seat.

If I use American Home Shield again and they send Mid-South Contractors, I'd tell them we don't want them. I've had American Home Shield at my house in Gadsden and didn't have any problem with it. Since I live here now, I wanted to make sure we had American Home Shield as well. I've used them several different times and they stand behind their word. I have told several people about them and several of them have gotten it since.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 15 years. I know the potential catastrophic costs of some major repairs and having them enables me to better predict what my out of pocket is going to be throughout the year. I check every year about how much I spend on my regular monthly payment as well as my deductible and I almost always at least break even. With the exception of sometimes having to wait a little longer than if I were to call someone myself, I've generally had a good experience with them.

Recently, the refrigerator in my garage was not working correctly. They had to order me new parts and it turned out to be a fan issue as well as some clogs that were blocking it from circulating the air. The repairman was good. Now the refrigerator is working great. But I have trouble every time I log in to their dashboard to see all of my activity because, for some reason, I've got two accounts in there. Every time I log in, I have to add my other information to do it as well. It's a pain and I can't get American Home Shield to fix it.

The claim was on a weekend and they were out there by Monday or Tuesday to work on it. They were very nice and professional.

I had a toilet that was broken around the rim from the floor. American Home Shield sent a local company out to fix it within 48 hours. They came out and fixed it but unfortunately, the repair did not last. It did not fix the issue. So within 24 hours, Home Shield sent the same company back out to do a secondary repair, and they resolved the issue in a timely manner.

As far as submitting a claim, there is not a very good option to do it over the phone. Every time I've had to call and talk to customer service people, there was no clear, concise communication with them. There was usually a language barrier when I talked to the customer service people, so I didn't get appropriate help, or the notes that were taken on my account weren't correct, so I usually had to do everything through the app. It's just a series of clicks, checks and boxes with a couple of keynotes, or just calling and talking to a customer service rep until I can get a manager. Then I can hopefully clear up the issue.

I've had quite a few repairs in the last year that I have had Home Shield, so I've had a lot of people that I've had to deal with through the company. A lot of times, I've had to go through customer service, and at times, the app left gaps in communication, and there were times that the communication failed and I had to go through the app to fix what was going on. So, it's back and forth where one works and one doesn't. Most of the contractors I've had have been really great. There was just one in particular that was horrible and I would not refer to anybody. In fact, I don't think Home Shield should work with them at all. I contacted American Home Shield about them not referring other people out because of how bad the contractor was. I don't know if they listened or if they paid attention to those warnings or not.

Overall, American Home Shield is a great company. They offer good services. I would suggest that people purchase Home Shield for having their home for the first year or two. I just think that the communication barrier with the customer service representatives needs to be fixed because it caused a lot of issues when I did have to call in. The app is progressive, but I do think that they could make some improvements on it to further break down the request instead of just doing a general, “Click this box here. Click that box here,” and not having it broken down.

Home Shield has different levels of plans that one can purchase, and they could make the app individualized. Instead of just clicking leak or plumbing, I can say it's a plumbing issue, bathroom issue, toilet issue, active leak, inactive leak, or pooling. It could be a more progressive check-the-box diagnostic tool so that they can further evaluate the urgency that needs to happen with the claim so that they can place it at either non-urgent, normal schedule, or urgent within 12 hours without people having to call and deal with the customer service and have to fight the fight with that.

I guess the adage "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is" is alive and well and applies to AHS tenfold. I learned about AHS online, It seemed like a great home warranty plan. In fact, if they truly followed their contractual provisions, it probably would be, but I learned quickly that they don't. AHS hires vendors in various specialties to handle home repairs. AHS pays them a low flat rate to vendors for their work. As a result, vendors place responding to AHS customers as a low priority. But that is just the tip of the iceberg with the AHS systemic problem. Because AHS does not pay vendors appropriately for their time, the system they have created encourages fraud. Specifically, they have vendors putting in proposals to do very standard warranty work, and to that work proposal they sprinkle in necessary related work to get the job done. AHS chooses to label this necessary related work as "modifications."

The AHS contract has a provision that gives them an out and requires the homeowner to pay for these undefined modifications. The fact is the plain meaning of modification defies their definition, but most homeowners would not be sophisticated enough to question it and they probably don't. Once AHS labels some of the work as "modifications" that gives the vendor the green light to charge the homeowner for much of their time on the job, which makes the warranty a joke.

My specific experience recently, one of several in the past year, is a great example of the AHS scam at work. My HVAC unit, which is not really that old but not under the manufacturer's warranty anymore, stopped working. It took a week to get an AHS vendor to my home in the middle of a heat wave. They came, they diagnosed the problem as a freon leak. They charged me for freon (conveniently an item excluded from the contracted) charged the unit and left. This did not fix the problem. I had to get them to come back. This took another week. The vendor then advised me that a leaking coil had to be replaced.

They put in a warranty claim to AHS. AHS took days to move on it. When they finally did, they told me that there was roughly $2,000 in uncovered services! I asked both AHS and the Vendor for details. AHS claimed they would get the information from the vendor for me in writing from the vendor, which they did not do even many days later, and the vendor blew me off for days before finally returning my phone call and only offering me a verbal description of the alleged "modifications" which were standard parts of the repair. I then brought in an HVAC repair person not affiliated with AHS, who came in a day. They advised me that the repair, as I suspected, did not require anything that would fit the standard definition of "modifications," rather it was a basic, vanilla, job.

AHS would not talk to the vendor I brought in, they would not even do a conference call with me and their vendor, basically politely telling me it was my problem, and that it was between me and their vendor, when my contract is with AHS, not this vendor. I was forced to move the repair forward without AHS's help, and I will have to sue them to get the damages. I could not play games with them because I have a child suffering from asthma at home and I could not go back and forth for weeks during record heat over the summer to get them to do the right thing, which I do not believe is or was their intention. Beware of AHS. They are in business to take your money and pay nothing out.

For our recent claim with AHS, the dishwasher was leaking from various parts underneath the dishwasher. They were the two pumps that make up the dishwasher and the basket had rusted. My claim experience was seamless. I was notified who the repairman was gonna be. It was great. He was very good, polite and quiet. He was mindful of us working from home. But he came in and took his time repairing it. That was after the parts had arrived because the initial visit was to identify the issue and order the parts and come back when the parts were available. The dishwasher hasn't failed since then and it's been running daily. I would recommend AHS thoroughly 'cause they don't question. They send out the right people to work out what the issue is. With that repair, I could have experienced them to turn back and say, "No. We're not gonna repair it." But they went ahead, authorized and repaired it.

They just left at noon today and I left within the hour, but within that short window of time, my AC was working fine. However, I'm a little dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I thought it would be a totally covered component. It was covered, but they said something about the repair and the install making my out-of-pocket $300 to $400. In reality, maybe I would have paid that and then some without anything, but it doesn't feel good that even when something is covered, I'm still paying $400 when I allegedly have a warranty, and that's on top of paying $100 in terms of the deductible.

I would log into my account. There would be a button to click that says, "Request service." There are some drop-downs. It asks what appliance or whatever my issue was. I picked, "This was the dryer." And there was a drop-down again that said "not working". I clicked the submit button. And it seemed automatic that somebody was assigned to me. I got a text that tells me what company American Home Shield assigned it to. The tech called us and gave me a day and a window to come out. They went out and tested some things and said he thought it was the motherboard. He ordered a new one. The part came in. He came out, installed it. The dryer worked. It's all good.

We've been with AHS for 30 years. A service call used to be $35. This year it went up to 110. It was getting to the point where it wouldn't necessarily be worth it to keep the coverage moneywise. The prices have gone through the roof. We almost canceled it this year because of that. Also, they now don't replace like for like. So I would get more of a buyout. So if my Wolf range went out, they would not replace it with a Wolf range. They would say, "You get this much money," or I could pick what they offer me online. So, it has gone downhill a bit. But if you have an older home, it's probably worth it.

I got a AHS warranty when during the closing on my home for $785.00. When I moved in into my home I realized that my HVAC wasn't working so I called AHS. A technician was sent out for $125.00 to come and assess my HVAC and I informed that my system needed to replaced. I spoke with a customer service representative about my HVAC problem and didn't get any satisfactory answer. I was told that they couldn't cover my preexisting mechanical condition or the insufficiently maintained equipment. I told the representative that the contract stated differently. The representative told me it was all in my perception of what I read the service contract to say.

Needless to say it's been over a month and I still don't have my HVAC working and my refrigerator died due to the 90 degree temperatures in my home. I called and cancelled the warranty 8/13 for a refund and was told by the service resolution guy that I would get a refund after cancellation but AHS had to deduct the prorated time and early cancellation fee from the amount. I was suppose to get $528.88 put back on my credit card within 5 business days. So I contact AHS today about my refund and I was told that the service resolution guy didn't turn in my information for cancellation and a refund until yesterday and I should wait to see if my money would be refunded Friday. AHS has been one of the worst experiences in my life. To have taken money and not honor their service contract. I experienced gaslighting and bread crumbing throughout the whole experience and still got not help with my issue.

High Priority Plumbing did a good job and I was very pleased with them. But American Home Shield’s customer service is not consistent. I've been with them for five years and I’m on the edge of canceling them because of that. But for some reason, I haven't because prior experiences don't add up to my last experience. The man who came for the dryer seemed so inexperienced. He ordered some parts and it took about a month for me to get back in touch with these people because they were not reachable and the owner had gone on vacation or the gentleman was not available. It was an awful experience. I was going through American Home Shield and they couldn't tell me anything. The rep said they put in a call and the contractor should contact me in three to five days. That went on for a month and upsets me a lot.

I had a Samsung refrigerator and according to my records, I've called American Home Shield six times. I don't know how many times I have to keep calling them for the same problem. My thought was if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. There's a malfunction in the refrigerator and it is gonna cost me $3000 to replace it. It's the same problem over and over again. So, American Home Shield is not living up to their standards. I can keep the $100 a month that I'm paying them and when I have a problem, I just pay whoever I'm calling that $100. I have newer products in my house, so I'm not as needy. Overall, if you're searching for a home warranty, I'm still paying AHS.

I should have involved American Home Shield before doing the repair work since I have a home warranty. I filed a complaint with the warranty company and they quickly referred someone. But the issue wasn't covered under the warranty and had to be handled through insurance. Before filing the insurance claim, I didn't take pictures. But I asked them to do the work and they replaced the garage door. When I filed the complaint, some of the pictures didn't show the work we had done. Although I paid around $4,000, only $2,000 was approved. But I agree. I don't have any issues with AHS because I should have taken the pictures. I didn't have the proof of damage. The warranty people took all the pictures but they didn't cover it. So, I hired a contractor and then approached the insurance because my friends told me that insurance usually covers it, so I reached out to them. They paid partially, which is okay.

There was confusion about what part was covered. When I filed the complaint with the warranty, they said the door was broken because the motor wasn't functioning correctly. If the issue was with the motor, they would cover it but if it was with the door, it wouldn't be under warranty. I wasn’t fully convinced by their explanation, as I felt the motor, which pulls the door, caused the damage. They ultimately didn’t pay, but I'm okay with it. But one thing that could be improved is the repeated issues we've had with our refrigerator. It keeps failing and it's becoming a hassle to fix because we have to call multiple times and remove all the food each time. It's usually the same company that comes to repair it, but I'm not sure if the problem is due to different technicians working on it or something else. They fixed it halfway but the issue persists.

On 6/16/24, my freezer stopped working. I submitted a claim with AHS my home warranty company. They sent a tech (ADA) out 2 weeks later who said they would not work on my GE fridge. It took an additional 2 weeks to get a second tech out (Alpha) who said on August 6 that they would order parts and for me to call on 8/19. When I called Alpha on 8/19, they informed me that they were terminated by AHS on 8/12 - I had no idea. I was not made aware of this until I called Alpha on 8/19 to schedule them to complete the repairs. Upon terminating Alpha (they would not tell me why), AHS did not look for a new vendor to fix my freezer. It was only after I called on 8/19 that they actually said they would do so.

Last week, the fridge also died causing me to throw hundreds of dollars of food out. When I spoke to AHS today, they actually tried to re-assign me ADA for the 2nd time. I told them ADA told me to my face that they will not work on my fridge. Now it's been 9 weeks since I submitted my claim and I do not even have a company scheduled to come out and evaluate my fridge and freezer. Both are running at about 68 degrees. It will take at least (best case) another 4-6 weeks to get a 3rd company here, assess the situation, order parts and then come and repair the fridge. This means that AHS will have taken over 3.5 months to fix my fridge. This is unacceptable. The problem with AHS is they use 4th rate providers who either do not know what they are doing or refuse to work for AHS' obviously lousy reimbursement rate!

The heat upstairs was up in the 80s and the tech went in the attic. He said that he didn't see a problem and that he drained the line to make sure that everything was flowing correctly, but didn't see a problem. It was still hot, but he thought that it would help to cool it down. We waited and waited for days and it never got cooler. I tried things on my own, washing, spraying the unit on the outside, and replacing filters but it never got cooler. I called again and requested that they come back out.

It took a little while before they could come out, but they did and it was a different technician. He checked upstairs and said he did not see a problem up in the attic. He checked outside and I told him it had been a while since I added Freon, so I wanted to make sure that it wasn't that. I mentioned it to the first technician, but he never said a word about it. The second tech went outside and said I was low on Freon but American Home Shield only covers a certain percent of that. He said it would be like $200. He came back and said that everything was taken care of. He had me sign something and I wrote him a check for my portion of it. He set my thermostat to 68 upstairs before he left and it never dropped below 80. I thought it may take a little while for things to kick in but nothing at all.

I called once again and American Home Shield said that they would try to expedite it. The company called and said that they couldn't get a technician out the next day, but they would have somebody available for me that Friday. He came that afternoon, went upstairs, and said that I was out of Freon. I told him they just charged me for it 36 hours ago. He said it was the leak. The sealant that they used didn't hold. I told him he never mentioned anything about a leak. Even in the documentation that he submitted said nothing about a leak. Had he mentioned something about a leak, I would have made sure that that was fixed first before adding Freon.

He said he's gonna have to charge me again for more Freon, but that the evaporator coil also needed to be replaced. I asked if that had been the problem the whole time and he said yes. The unit is fairly new outside but I didn't bother to replace the evaporator coil and I was supposed to do both of those at the same time. It was funny he said that, because they were the ones that did it. Anything that's ever been done with my AC unit had always been through American Home Shield.

Then, he turned and walked outside. I thought he was just going out to his car to get something more to have me sign something, because he didn't have me sign anything this time. But he got in his truck and he drove off. I thought he just wasn't going to service it or anything. He didn't have me sign anything and didn't say what the next steps were. The next thing I know, I got a call from somebody, telling me what my out of pocket was gonna be and it was like $2,100. I was flabbergasted by it. I could not understand why it was so much money for the evaporator coil and he said it was because I've got to do all these modifications.

I ended up calling in my own HVAC guy. There were no modifications that were needed. He got everything that he needed and replaced the evaporator coil, but there were no modifications. Also, he took pictures of my attic and came down and explained to me what the previous tech was saying I needed to do and it was bogus anyways.

I told AHS everything and they offered me cash in lieu but that wasn't even enough to cover the evaporator coil, much less the labor. Also, I had that problem with that HVAC guy and then I had a problem with the pool technician not even two weeks later. The technicians that AHS sent out were the last ones that did anything with the filter and it exploded. And the technician that came out is one that I had asked not to ever come back on to my property again because of problems I had. He said one thing and he wrote up another. He told me that my filter had nothing to do with the work that he did the last time that he came out and that filters only last 10 to 15 years and mine was manufactured in 2014. But then he wrote up that it wasn't due to wear and tear so American Home Shield denied it. I brought in my own pool company to fix the filter.

I canceled my contract with them. The technicians that they send out are absolutely horrendous and unprofessional. They tend to lean more towards what they think American Home Shield is gonna wanna hear versus truly fixing the issue. Their representatives are quick to take action, but they're very limited on what they have the authority to do. In order to get anyone to take you seriously or to do anything, you have to cancel your contract. That's the only way that you'll get someone that is empowered enough to be able to do something that same day. The problem was I truly trusted two different representatives in the retention department and what was said, even in writing, saying that they were gonna do and it never happened and I had to cancel my service.

We had a slab leak under the concrete, which was also on the wooden floor. Saka Service of Florida came out and did an evaluation of the situation. They said that they could repair the slab leak, but American Home Shield would not replace the wooden floors. AHS was only allowing $400 toward the wood floors, which would not match what we had and wouldn't even start to replace it. I denied using them and had my own company.

This one was a little confusing because it was a slab leak. We had one two months prior and we were told then that because our house was older, once we started having those types of leaks, they were gonna continue. Sure enough, two months later, we had a second one. We didn't file a claim for the first one and we just paid for it ourselves. The second one, we filed a claim and because it was under the wooden floors, they weren't gonna cover repairing the wooden floors. It had already been suggested that we go ahead and repipe the house to keep it from continually happening and we decided to go that route.

I also used AHS before for my washing machine and although I couldn't get the washer I wanted, the front load, I did get a nice machine. I opted to buy my own and they reimbursed me. I found a machine that was on sale and I only had to spend about 50 additional dollars for the machine. I was satisfied with what they offered. I just couldn't find a particular one I wanted out of what they were offering. What I think could be improved was, it took them over two weeks to come out. Once they came out, it took 15 minutes for them to tell me that they were unable to repair my machine. That bothered me. They could have told me that two weeks before. Other than that, I like the plan and the coverage. What I don't like is sometimes when I file a claim, it takes a bit longer to get the service than if I had just contacted the contractor on my own.

Once again, a company that do NOT stand behind their promises of service. I had a leak in my pool, they sent out two pool cleaning companies out to detect a leak on two different occasions? They were on my property no more than 5 minutes and said, "You have a leak." They did not do anything. One of said, crooks said "Oh yes, you have leak by the skimmer," wrong, as I have epoxyed that area. All that and I ended up with the call out charge! Apparently when we purchased the policy we were told that there was a $5000.00 coverage on the pool and that covered plumbing! NOT TRUE!!! They sent out two different vendors whose star value was one! I suggest you go elsewhere for coverage as this is not the first time I've had a problem with this company!! We've just cancelled after a 45 minute fiasco with AHS!! It's tantamount to fraud....They are scammers with poor vendors...

I am on the 3rd month and discovered they took another payment out. When I called to escalate, they said they could only reimburse the last 2 months because there weren’t any notes, when last month, I was told that they don’t know why it wasn’t cancelled the first time but that they would resolve it. They won’t provide a ticket number, just a person's name and after being promised a call back from Mary, I never got a callback. Had to call them again and at the moment, have not had any money returned YET!

I like the quickness of the people coming out to the house. Recently, we were having problems with our pipes. A pipe burst. It happened on a Friday evening so we had to wait from Friday to Monday morning for a plumber. He fixed it but there was further damage from the pipe bursting. Another pipe burst in the same area so I put in another call to American Home Shield. They had the contractor come back out for no additional charge and they fixed it right away. They came out the very next day after we called them.

When I first got American Home Shield, I didn't realize that I would have to pay an additional fee for the water heater to be installed. I wish I would have known that from the beginning. It would have been a lot smoother, and I wouldn't have gotten upset. But after a while, I understood they have to pay for their guy to come out and bring in everything. I don't get upset as much as I did when I first started. Normally, the contractors will come out and do everything. The most problems we've had here has been the water. We've had things like faucets installed and pipes burst, and most of the time, they've taken care of it and we haven't been charged anything extra.

The problem I have with American Home Shield is that they have overseas customer support. Even though they could speak English, they don't know the problems we have here. The problems that they have in other countries are not the same problems as what we have here. The laws are different as well. How I explain something to them, they might not get it. American Home Shield is trying to cut back on their costs but that hurts their customer too. State to state is different as well. The problems I have here in Arizona are different from someone who's in Florida. American Home Shield can also improve on the cost. We pay 75 bucks a month plus the service call fee which went up from 100 to 125 since we've had it but I've never received a notification about it.

If you have more than one appliance, you can put it on the same ticket. I had a small issue with my fridge, a small issue with my stove and a small issue with my washing machine. The first guy that came out told me he would have to take the washing machine apart to see what was going on with it but chose not to do anything with it because he said it wasn't leaking when he was there. It was leaking on and off for a month. Some days, it would leak really bad, and some days, it would barely leak. I put that on my ticket because it could be a bigger problem. But he chose not to address that issue though he fixed the problem with my fridge and installed a new igniter for my stove so that my broiler would work again.

My washer started leaking again so I called American Home Shield and tried to tell them that I needed a recall. They said, "Sorry. It's been over 30 days and you have to pay for a new ticket." I was trying to explain to them that if the guy would have done it the first time, then I wouldn't have to do a new ticket and pay another a hundred and some dollars for it. Long Lane Home Services came out and the repairman said, "I don't wanna have to take this apart. I can see what this is right now. You have a little hole in your seal and we can replace that." He ordered the part, came back in a week, and put it back in. My washer hasn't leaked ever since.

I tried to call and complain to American Home Shield that I had to pay an extra $100 for somebody to come out because they wouldn't make the first person come back out and fix it. That was on the ticket for him to fix the washer. All he had to do was take a look at it like this guy did, and he would have known what the problem was. It would have been fixed right away. I had to pay for no reason so I was super irritated with American Home Shield at that point. Then when my new contract was up, they told me they were gonna raise the monthly price again, and they were also gonna raise the service fee twice. That's happened every single year since I've had American Home Shield. It went from $46 when I first started to $109 a month.

Recently, when I went to turn on my shower, there was no hot water. I called American Home Shield and talked to them. I had my neighbor come over earlier that morning before I even put in a ticket. He said, "The control panel is fried. The unit is already over 10 years old. You could fix that, but you need a new water heater." American Home Shield told me they should be able to get it fixed for me within 48 hours if it needed to be replaced. They put the service ticket in to this company, but I didn't get a call from them for four hours. I put it in at 7:00 in the morning on a Friday.

I called the company and they said, "American Home Shield has sent us 52 referrals in the last 24 hours, and you're number 49. We have to call back 48 people before we even get to you to talk to you about an appointment." I said, "I'm guessing that this means that there's no way you're gonna be able to come out today and diagnose?" They said, "No and even if we come out in the next week sometime, it's gonna be five to seven business days by the time American Home Shield approves your claim."

I cancelled my service ticket and called American Home Shield. I fought with them for at least 45 minutes to cancel my contract. The lady would not take no for an answer. I told them it was the last straw with them and I was not dealing with them anymore. They make me wait exorbitant amounts of time before they help me with anything. Everything has to go through this process of five to seven business days and it's not worth it. I could just save the money that they charge me monthly and pay for my own stuff.

I had an air conditioner that was no longer keeping the coolant in it, and the unit was well over 30 years old. American Home Shield was able to not only replace it, but also do so at a much lower cost. It took a little longer than I expected, but it wasn't their fault. I was not home for two and a half weeks through it, so I delayed the fixing because of my absence. It was just really hot when it was broken, and I wanted it done yesterday.

Everything I needed was done exactly when they said it was gonna be done, and it worked perfectly. I called American Home Shield last May 18, then a week later, the service people were at the house. The service person was wonderful. He came with a helper as well, and they were both really good. It was really hot the day they came. They were both in my house as well as outside and they allowed me to give them water 'cause I felt so guilty. They were efficient too. They did what they needed to do and got the job done quickly. They knew that day I knew I was gonna get a new air conditioning unit, and they were back the day that I needed them to be back, which was my first day back from vacation.

The service people were there for about four hours that day, and that was taking the old unit out and putting in the new unit. All in all, I've enjoyed having American Home Shield immensely, and I'm glad my husband did it. Their monthly fees are great 'cause I know that they're in my back pocket if I need them, and the fact that all that I paid in a year will pay for half of what I paid for the air conditioning service, I'm ahead a lot.

Smart Choice Heating & Cooling came in pretty quickly and were there for not even five minutes. They gave me an answer as to what's wrong. But nothing was able to get fixed because American Home Shield has to order the part for them to fix the issue. When the part comes in, they'll be coming back out to fix it. Most of the people that come are friendly but it's been the same thing. They get there and are able to identify the issue but if it's a part that has to come in, we have to wait for it. Then they're able to go ahead and continue working on whatever the issue might be. American Home Shield can be beneficial but at the same time, if you have an old air conditioning unit, you might end up paying quite a bit of money if you have to replace any freon.

I would like for American Home Shield to have some consistency. With the first claim, they listened and responded well. I put in a claim for a refrigerator and a dishwasher. The people that came out repaired the refrigerator and the dishwasher so I was pleased. But with the second claim, I did not get that same level of service. They denied my claim for two water heaters. They said that the water heaters were under warranty so I needed to go through the warranty company, which I did. The company that they referred to me told me that they would call me back but never did. Normally, I got a survey but American Home Shield didn't send me a survey after the water heater. They knew it was because they didn't follow up. Also, previously, I can pay once a year but it seems they're no longer offering that. You have to do the month to month, which I don't like.

American Home Shield has replaced a lot of stuff for me and most times, the replacement was something a little more updated because my stuff is really old and I've had them a while. They replaced a washing machine for me one time, as well as a refrigerator. The refrigerator I had was old and it wasn't replaceable. So, they gave me a check to get me another one and I bought it. American Home Shield's service is good. I've been with them for about six years and whenever I have something break down, they'd be on top of it and they get it fixed or replaced. I enjoy that. I always call them and let them know what's not working. I talk to someone, and then they send someone out to check.

The last claim I had with American Home Shield was when my air conditioning unit went out and my air wasn't getting cold. The main guy from the repair company came out, and he talked to me and found out what the problem was, then he sent two of his workers out. Each one of them seemed nice and seemed to be doing their job. It took about three weeks before I got my air conditioning unit fixed because different things were acting up. They replaced one thing, then a few days later, something else went out on the unit and the problem started again. The repair people came back and got it fixed, and they explained that it was just something different. From repair, my unit has been doing good. I'm pleased with it.
