I had a refrigerator that wasn't cooling or making ice. Everything is done online. The contractor just calls and tell you what time they can come out. I had Allen Appliance and we had to call them out three times. But it wasn't a Home Shield thing. The techs were just trying to fix the issue. They explained to me every time they did it. They thought the issue was one thing but it was the other. They replaced parts every time they came out. I like that with AHS, if something breaks, I have the coverage to get it fixed without spending much money out of pocket. But they stop parts and sometimes the process takes longer than it should.

It's been nothing but positive with AHS. My refrigerator door was left open and that burned the compressor on it. Affordable Appliance looked at it and said it needed to be replaced. Home Shield then sent us options of what we could pick. But we went with the cash option so we could go to Lowe's and pick out our own. Recently, I had them repair an AC unit that wasn't cooling. The techs called me right away and repaired it. Everybody AHS has sent out has always been really good. Go with AHS.

Each time I submit claims, it's been pretty easy. I just log on to the website and request the service I need. Within an hour or two, someone gets with me and gets the repair scheduled. My air conditioner was not blowing cold air and the tech was very helpful. He jumped up on the roof and started looking at our AC unit. The issue was with the power to our fan. He was able to check that and make sure everything was connected.

I reach out to American Home Shield by phone and if I can understand them, the experience is pretty good. That's been an issue because the reps are hardly understandable and I have to ask them to repeat themselves quite a few times. That aside, the price of the warranty is comparable with everybody else. We've been paying it for a long time. Two of my children also have American Home Shield because of us. I made a claim when I thought I had a refrigerator problem. Techs came and diagnosed it. They were here for 20 minutes. It turned out to be an electrical problem and I had to get someone else.

My most recent claim to American Home Shield was for the AC unit in our home. It broke and it took almost a week for someone to come down to my home. I was complaining about it. My husband was out of the hospital. I had to wait. They said that was the timeframe and they didn't give me any other choices. They didn't give me any other names to other companies. They said that was the only company they used in Tucson. So, we had to make sacrifices and wait. Then when they finally showed up on a Friday, it broke down that same night. I called again and they said, unfortunately, there was nothing that they could do. They had to reschedule again. So, I had to call the company and just tell them we couldn't handle it anymore.

I told them that they had already come down and I couldn't wait another five days. It was impossible. They happened to have someone to come in that Saturday and fix the air. But by then, we've already been through so much negativity. Then the company wanted to sell us a new unit. They said that the insurance company was only gonna be able to fix the problem, but it needed more than just one thing. They said that the company is only there to do a band-aid type. They weren't gonna offer us a new system. So, we decided to get quotes from other companies and we ended up having to purchase a new one. I had no choice but to look for a company that could offer me a deal to get a new unit because Home Shield wasn't gonna do that.

I called Home Shield and told them I had too many problems. I even asked them if they could set me up at a place because it was really hot, and they said no but out of courtesy, they were gonna refund me the $100 that I paid for them to come out to service it when it took a while to get a service. By the time all that went through and I spent thousands of dollars to fix it, I called and told them that I wanted my thing to be canceled. I didn't wanna stick with them because I didn't feel that they were there to help me when I needed it. I have been with them for about four years and faithfully paying all the time. I just felt like they weren't gonna help me when I needed a new system.

I would tell others not to switch to them. I'd tell them to go somewhere else and to read the fine lines. We even called, just playing around, to see what they offer. Some guy said, "Oh, yeah, you wouldn't even have to show anything. We'll fix it. If you need a new one, we'll fix it." It's all a lie. They won't. They'll fix it just to band-aid up, but they won't pay for a new system. They falsely advertise that they're gonna pay if it breaks and would honor a new one.

The AC compressor went out. We contacted American Home Shield by internet. Using their website was very useful. My timeline expectations were met. During the hot times, it's hard to find a technician, so it exceeded my expectations. They had to order parts and had to come back a week later. They did the repair in less than an hour. I would recommend Home Shield. The only thing is the price keeps going up.

I had an appliance issue. The claim experience with American Home Shield worked out great. The problem was the front right one and it would barely get warm. Somehow, the element was damaged. The tech went in there and replaced that particular element. I was very happy with his job. I was told that he would have to do the whole top, but they didn't. I did the claim online. They won't let you talk to someone. You have to go online and do it but it was really quick, so it did work out in the end. We were given the name and the phone number of who was coming out. The prices have gone up quite a bit but everything is going up. But having this protection plan, I don't have to hunt around for somebody to repair things. I just contact them. They've got a vetted people. It makes it really easy.

Be sure to check the contractors used by AHS. They sent one that drove almost 2 hours to my place and refused to do the work I requested. (Replace toilet seal and valves to turn toilet off). When I disputed the payment, the contractor then changed the ticket and closed it saying it was completed. Cust Reps With AHS actually argued with me that the work was completed. I finally got tired of the calls and told them to cancel my contract. Then I got stuck being transferred to several people all trying to talk me out of cancelling. At the same time the technician is calling me asking when can he come out and finish the job! Finally had to threaten to cancel my mother’s contract before they finally cancelled mine. Ridiculous!!

My HVAC had a broken coil and the contractor, HVAC Guy, called me within 24 hours of them getting the claim. They were there at 8 o’clock and were done within an hour. They communicated with me what the problem was and how long it was gonna take them to fix it. It was in the middle of summer, which was what I appreciated because overnight, our house got to the mid-80s. Since then, everything has been great. The previous claim that I made before that was for a water heater and it was fixed within 24 hours. I will probably have to call American Home Shield this week for my garbage disposal so they can send out a plumber. I love the contractors from AHS. I've had excellent service from them and if they had bad contractors, I would have been out a long time ago. So, they do a good job. Their contractors are very knowledgeable and responsive.

I've struggled a little bit with AHS' customer service representatives. They have zero knowledge of their policies so that's a little irritating. I wanted to upgrade my policy from the basic to the premium, and the biggest thing that was enticing to me was it covered code issues. The customer service representative couldn't distinguish between a code violation and a code change. And that bothered me because if a contractor installs something in my house that violates code, I'm not paying for that. That's their problem. They need to know what the codes are when they install things.

Nobody should pay for code violations. If you install something as a licensed contractor and you didn't follow it to code, I don't know why I would pay for that. So I expected the representative to have some concept. I'm not quite sure whether or not I'll upgrade my policies since I still haven't gotten an answer on that but that sparked me to research other homeowner insurance companies. My house was built in 2012 and we are in 2023 and it’s a big deal to me as my furnace starts to go out as well as my AC unit and my water heater because I know the codes have changed significantly. If I'm going to go from paying $27 to $53 a month, I wanna know that they know the difference between a violation and a code change. And if it doesn't cover all the code changes, then I don't wanna purchase that. $30 more a month is a big deal. They should know that my out-of-pocket cost should be less.

American Home Shield has been a nightmare to deal with. My wife and I unfortunately bought an expensive oven and decided we needed a home warranty because the factory warranty was only for two years. We started having issues with the oven in October of 2022. The first vendor they sent out to look at the oven was a company called Ramsey Appliance Repair, which is in Woodland Park. The employee who came to look at the oven is named Steven **. Steven told us what was wrong with the oven and then said he would order the part. He never came back to fix the oven; we had many calls with American Home Shield (AHS) and they finally said the vendor didn't know how to fix the oven so they sent a different vendor out who was terrific and was able to fix the oven! That company was called Company Wide Proserv.

We had another issue with the oven and opened a request on 7-25-23, AHS said Ramsey Appliance would come out to see what the issue was, which every time a vendor comes out to see what's wrong, we pay $125 to AHS, which isn't a problem if the issue is fixed. Today is 9-28-23 and the oven isn't fixed. My wife started dealing with AHS and didn't get anywhere, so I decided to start following up this week. I called on 9-26-23 and spoke to Joyce, she was no help. I asked for her last name and of course they are not allowed to provide that information. I asked for a supervisor, and she said no. They told me they had to wait for the report from Ramsey Appliance before they do anything and if they didn't hear back from the vendor, they would escalate my ticket to the "Escalation Team".

I of course didn't hear back, so I called the following day, 9-27-23. This time I spoke to Emma, she told me about the same thing except now I needed to wait 24 to 48 hours for the Escalation Team to do something. I didn't hear back, so I called today, 9-28-23 and spoke to Joanne. Nothing has happened. Do not go with this company. This company offers no accountability.

They have changed their customer service center to overseas. It provides extremely poor service and I've had to tell people how to help me. It has gotten to the point I've had multiple people hang up on me. Then I had to wait almost a month for a part to get ordered for my air conditioning. I got an email saying a part was ordered but a couple of weeks later, I found out it was never ordered. There was a blame game with back and forth with the contractor. The lack of communication and false information is insane.

It's been really bad to the point that this past transaction, I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau a complaint because I wasn't getting any help. I'm sitting in a house that's 98 degrees inside and nobody was helping me. It was very frustrating. I'm actively trying to find another home warranty company because as much as I would like to stay with American Home Shield, they have really gone down. I knew I would wait maybe a week to have my air conditioning fixed, which is hard enough when you live in Florida. But to wait almost a month is insane. Through the Better Business Bureau, they offered to reimburse me my service fee and give me $200 to buy a portable unit while I was waiting for my parts. But even then, I had to fight for those payments.

I renew next month and my rate and service fee are going up significantly. There's a lack of compassion from customer service in general. I've never dealt with customer service that poor in my life.

The toilet was making a noise and when we took the top off, he could see something. So, he knew quickly what was wrong with it. The home warranty gives me peace of mind. I don't worry about things going. I have a new house and initially, I didn't think I needed it because of that. But as soon as that manufacturer's warranty ends, you're going to have problems. So it's a good use of money and worth having.

American Home Shield has been fabulous and I want to keep them. Recently, we were having issues with the air conditioner where it would blow hot air. We called American Home Shield, and they sent a company out. They said they fixed it, but it did it again a few days later. I called American Home Shield, and they sent them out again. They said they fixed it. Three weeks later, it happened again. I had to call American Home Shield and they sent them out again. The guy came out last Monday. By Wednesday, the air conditioner was broken still. I had told them that one of the guys who came out to fix it at one time said it needed a motherboard. I kept saying, “If you're gonna send the guy out again and he's not replacing the motherboard, then why are you sending him? Nothing's getting fixed.” A lady said, “We're gonna send somebody and have them look.”

The guy came out on Friday and fixed the air conditioner. He even came in the house and worked on something on the furnace. Previously, they were here five minutes, cleaned the connection, and left. But if it rained a little, the connection would get jacked up again then we would have the same problem. My complaint was why does this company keep coming out and doing the same thing. Meanwhile, they're charging American Home Shield to come to us, and they ain’t fixing anything. It doesn't sound right to me and I feel bad for American Home Shield. Also, the guy called me today and said, “Hi, this is Rusty and I'm on my way to your house.” I said, “You fixed the thing on Friday.” It seems they got a lot of confusion in their office. These guys don't know what they're doing.

Don't waste your money. They will do whatever it takes to tell you they do not cover your service needs. I called them for my A/C it is running constantly to cool a 900 sqft condo. I have it set at 78. I lowered my water heater temp (it's less than a year old), wash clothes in cold water, air dry my dishwasher, yet my electric bill went up over $300 an increase of over $100. I checked with TECO and they said they did not have a rate hike in the last 60 days. The service they sent said the complaint was a noisy outside condenser but it is cooling properly.

I've had a second and third opinion and was told the condenser was not pushing the air in, also there is a freon leak. The system was too old and antiquated and couldn't be repaired. Now I get a call stating they do not cover loud noises. A waste of my efforts. I call to cancel and go through the third degree how they will send someone for a second opinion, etc. It took a call listening to people telling me how they can serve me and not cancel for over 20 minutes. I signed up with American Home Shield (AHS) back in February 2003 with the belief that their services would provide peace of mind and prompt solutions for any home appliance issues. Unfortunately, my recent experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare. In August, my refrigerator suddenly stopped working, leaving me in a state of distress. I promptly contacted AHS, hoping for a swift resolution to my problem. They did indeed respond quickly by connecting me with a service provider called "Antech Appliance." Initially, I had high hopes that my issue would be resolved without any hassle.

However, the optimism quickly faded when Antech Appliance informed me that they needed to order parts to fix the refrigerator. I patiently waited for a week, but nothing happened. I reached out to both Antech and AHS, only to be met with evasive responses and what felt like a relentless runaround. This lack of transparency and accountability was extremely frustrating. After several more attempts, Antech Appliance finally came to assess the situation again, only to declare that they couldn't fix the refrigerator. This ordeal dragged on for a painful three weeks, leaving me without a working refrigerator. At this point, I had lost all faith in the service provided by AHS.

In a last-ditch effort to address my issue, AHS assigned another company called "Affordable Services and Appliance Repair." Much to my dismay, the story repeated itself as they, too, stated that they needed to order parts. It has now been over a month since my refrigerator stopped working, and absolutely nothing has been accomplished. The most disheartening aspect of this entire ordeal has been the complete lack of accountability and responsibility demonstrated by American Home Shield. I have made numerous calls to their customer service department, but I have yet to receive a clear and straightforward answer from them. It's apparent that AHS places little value on their customers' time and satisfaction.

Furthermore, the contractors they hire to assist their customers are not only inexperienced but also lack professionalism and attention to detail. It's possible that AHS hires such contractors due to their cost-effectiveness, but it ultimately results in a terrible customer experience. In summary, my month-long ordeal with American Home Shield has been nothing short of a disappointment and a waste of both time and money. I deeply regret signing up with them, and I urge anyone considering their services to think twice. AHS's customer service is utterly irresponsible, and the contractors they employ are inexperienced and often careless. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment I've experienced, and look elsewhere for reliable home warranty services.

We had a circuit breaker go out. I submitted the claim through the website but I prefer talking to someone. I can't do that anymore. AHS sent me an email telling me that the contractor would be in touch. The tech was great. He had us turn off the switch to the light outside. He found that was the issue which isn't covered by our policy. That was aggravating and it was a waste of $100.

AHS covers what they cover. They have covered things for clients in the past so I have not been displeased with the service. It makes me feel more comfortable should I have a major expense come up. But when anything I have breaks, it's usually not covered. It's just that I have bad luck. But I'm satisfied overall.

The washing machine leaked where you put the clothes. I called American Home Shield and said I had a problem with the machine. The techs found out it was the hose that had to be cleaned. They were very nice. I told them that I had that machine for a long time, and that it was also rusty. They said, “It was used.” I said, “Yes, but for a few years. I have never asked for anything, and this is not my fault if the machine is aged.” They said AHS is supposed to cover that. They called AHS, the company covered the machine, and they will send us a new machine that we’re gonna have on the 28th.

AHS been good to me this time, but they've not been so good all the time. They had to ask for another contractor. The same contractor came in 30 days, there's nothing wrong but I could not use the microwave. They have come twice and told me twice that it was working, but it was not. They're nice if you know how to explain to them what's wrong. But sometimes, people would come here, take my 80 bucks and say there's nothing wrong with it. I asked to have another contractor. You just have to have another contractor. They have more than one that you can pick from. Do not fight. If you don't like the contractor, call AHS and tell them you would like to have another contractor and don't want to work with those people they sent you the first time.

I love American Home Shield. However, my last two experiences with them have not been the greatest. I had a microwave claim and there was a miscommunication. The unit went out and they couldn't replace the motor because of the year of it. They told me my options but my preference was I wanted the same brand that I had because I don't want different brands in my kitchen. I picked the gift card option however, they never said that I can still order the same brand that I have and they will just have to special order it. I would have waited because I wanted what I wanted. I asked if they could just order it but they said they could not because I had already entered the gift card option. It was a huge miscommunication and it took three months. Then, I had to pay an extra $300 out of pocket. It was a gruesome process and it took me six months to even get it installed. Once I got the gift card, American Home Shield wasn't really connected with it anymore. They did me a disservice there.

Then, it was my range hood and they let me know that Sears would be coming out to do a diagnosis. Sears said the motor went out and it couldn't be fixed. They said it would have to be replaced. They had someone to come in and they ordered it. On the date that it would be delivered, I thought that someone would be coming and doing the installation. I tried to contact that person but I could never get in contact with them. I had to call American Home Shield. They tried to call but couldn't get them either. They ended up having to email that person and they got the person to contact them back. The person finally contacted me and he said it was a two-man job and they'd be here between 3:00 and 5:00. I took the entire day off and waited till 5 o'clock but there was no contact.

I called American Home Shield to let them know the person was a no-show the second time. They said they'd call him and see what he's gonna do and schedule it. This range has been in my house for a little over a week and it's huge. I told them that if this person does not show up, they are gonna get someone else to come out here because I'm not gonna keep dealing with the same people if they're just not gonna do it. I'm losing money taking off work three times and not being compensated for it and that's not okay. They were guaranteeing me he'll be here but they don't cover that I've been out of work waiting for something that they are saying they're gonna do.

I would have worked with them. If we need to move it another day, let's move it another day. But make sure you come out on that day or call me prior and let me know so I can make arrangements. I can't believe this is happening back to back and I just started back with them. I asked to speak to their retention department because I wanted this to be escalated. I ended up escalating the conversation yesterday and they gave me a discount or a refund. Also, once the customer service rep came on, she was phenomenal. She understood my frustration. American Home Shield makes it right, although I gotta do a lot of follow-ups.

Which didn't make any sense. If it's covered by the warranty why aren't they fixing. Plus the $175 out of pocket cost and the $100 I already paid (Total $275). Would have been able to replace the ball valve around $350 so what's the purpose of having a warranty company.

I've not been happy with American Home Shield and the way they conduct business because they make it sound like they don't care by the way they're going about it. For the last two years, the service has been questionable. They keep sending out companies that don't have good reviews. There was a drip in my attic and they sent the company. The tech was here for five minutes and he said he had completed the task. I asked how could he have completed the task but he said it was fixed.

The leaking continued so I called AHS. I had looked up the reviews of the first company and saw all the negative reviews. I told AHS that they need to look at the company's reviews. I had to pay another copay for another company to come out when the first one lied and told me they fixed it just to take the charge. AHS sent out another company. That company told me that nothing had been done and if anything, it was worse. They said that type of job takes two hours to complete minimum.

The AC has been the biggest problem. For the last year, one company has come out 11 times and each time they come out, they fix something and then they say they have to come back. When you have kids in your house and you have medical conditions, you cannot have the house hot. I kept calling AHS about what they could do. The company was not fixing the AC, charging me $4,000 to fix something, and kept coming back. AHS has not been helpful in getting this fixed. All they do is say, "Okay. We'll send them out." But they need to help get to the bottom of it or send me a company to fix it without charging me again. I felt like they just pushed me under the rug. They say, "I'm sorry for your inconvenience." and yet they don't do anything to fix it.

Then, my compressor is out of my refrigerator and I've not had a refrigerator for five weeks. I called them about it a few weeks ago and asked if they provide any type of finances since I'm out of the freezer and I don't have anything but they said they don't. What bothered me the most was that my refrigerator was out at the time for four weeks and the company they sent said it was the compressor. I just assumed they were coming back but another company came and the guy walked in last week asking what the issue was. He said AHS didn't tell them anything and they were trying to find out from me. I told them I was not the most knowledgeable on the repair other than I was told it was the compressor. I felt like AHS dropped the ball again. The company is supposed to be here tomorrow to fix the compressor but I'm worried something else is gonna happen. Also, I would love to be compensated financially for the meals that I've been paying for five weeks.

AHS has been very helpful over the years and if they weren't able to fix the problem, they issue a new item. For what I'm getting, it's definitely a good value. I had an issue with the shower handle recently. It was stripped and it couldn't turn the water off. It took about four days for AHS to send the contractor, Home Choice Services, out and I had to turn the water off to the house. The contractor is not the best, though. I've had to have them come out a couple of times and the issue is still not totally resolved. The first part they put in turned out to be faulty, so I had to have the tech come for a second time. But it's only one handle and there's a hot and cold element in there and they bumped that so it only has cold water. I don't have hot water and they don't wanna really come back out because they've already been paid. I'm fighting that right now.

I sent in a claim for the faucet because of water leakage. The tech that came out was professional. He explained a lot about the system that I had an issue with. He went into the attic to check out the HVAC system and all of the plumbing up there to make sure there was no water leakage coming from any of those pipes up in the attic. I feel confident about the protection that I have for my property, the services that American Home Shield offers in the bundle package, and that they're fairly competitive with their prices. They're a very well-known company. But they don't send you a bill every month. They need to communicate more with the customers, how much your bill is going to be, and mainly how much you're paying toward it each month.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good so far. I had my microwave go out and they replaced it. I had an issue with my dishwasher and that was repaired. I had an issue where my garbage disposal went out and that was approved. There was one time I was having a problem with getting one of my ceiling fans repaired by the manufacturer. American Home Shield was really great about helping me out with that because I was being bounced back and forth between them and the manufacturer. They finally decided to go ahead and cover that. I currently have a claim for the repair of my air conditioning unit that went out last week.

In the very beginning, I was calling it in for my claims. But now, I normally file my claims through the American Home Shield app. It's very user-friendly. The only thing with my current experience, I submitted a request on Friday morning and I never got any phone call or any contact on Saturday. But I did receive a notification saying that the service company was gonna be out between a certain time. When they didn't respond, I made a phone call to American Home Shield and I explained to her my situation.

My son had back surgery and because of the care that he needs, he had to move back home with me. He can't do any lifting and he can't be out in the heat. I told the rep that my son had incisions and could not get wet because he was still healing from the back surgery. The rep said there's an option that you could put there as a 'medical need'. A lot of companies encourage you to use the app so you're not waiting on hold or tying up lines. I started using the app because it's very simple but it doesn't have the medical request feature. The rep was very helpful and she located a different company for me and she expedited the order. They couldn't make it out the same night so I had to get a hotel for my son. I'm just waiting now to see if American Home Shield is going to approve the work that needs to be done or what's gonna happen.

The lady told me that the technician had to put in a work order that it was a medical necessity. I'm in disagreement with that and I told the lady, "The gentleman that's coming out is an air conditioning technician, not a doctor. So, how can they make that assessment?" I didn't feel comfortable with her telling me that because what if my son came and he couldn't stand the heat and I had to send him to the neighbors to cool off or he's in bed because of some heavy pain medications and they knock him out? With the heat itself, it makes it even more uncomfortable. It wears him out.

I said, "What if he would not have been visible to this technician and the technician puts it down that it's not an emergency or it's not due for escalation for whatever reason?" I told the rep I could send the doctor's orders and discharge paper from the hospital where he had the back surgery. I didn't want to end up paying any additional fees because the technician didn't see it as a medical necessity. That aside, I really enjoy American Home Shield. They've always been great and I've been very satisfied with them for the most part.

I was a member of American Home Shield for 17 years on my property in Reno and at the end of that particular year, they sent me a bill that was just about two times the amount I had been paying for the very best package that they had. So, I left American Home Shield as a result of that. I went elsewhere and that was a big nightmare. I came back to American Home Shield for my home in Reno as well as my property in Las Vegas. As of this day, the recent experiences that I've had with American Home Shield are very positive as opposed to these other companies out there that say that they take care of properties. The professionals that I have dealt with have been superb too.

AHS is number one on the market and they should make some allowances for seniors, but they don't. When you contact them, they send out a professional who has to take pictures of everything and collect information. And then, they have to send it to AHS to approve whether or not they're going to pay it. And that needs to change too. That's like saying that the professionals that they send out are not qualified to make an assessment. And I don't like that, because anything that they would be sending somebody out for, it should be addressed at the time they send somebody. You don't need to add on two or three days to wait to find out if American Home Shield is gonna cover it.

AHS collects their fee over the phone and that fee doesn't even go to the professional they send out. That goes to AHS for their time to reach out to a professional. Now, that's fine so long as they're gonna follow through on what I have paid, which is top dollar, and with what needs to be done upon my calling them. Because it's my understanding that on both of my properties, I have the very best coverage. Today, I received an email from American Home Shield letting me know that my policy for my property in Reno has changed. And it gives a list of changes. I have their platinum for 2023 and it says I should take a few minutes to review my coverage and note the changes. So, that would be interesting when I take a look and compare.

Dockside, the plumbing company, was excellent. AHS selected them, which was fine, and they took the pictures. It was a hot water heater and they got everything back to AHS. And because I didn't want to have to sit here with no hot water, I got on the phone and called American Home Shield half a dozen times in 30 minutes to approve this. The plumbing company came out and took care of the problem at hand. The two repair persons were very nice, mannerly and knowledgeable. All the way from the lady that I spoke with on the phone to the owner, to the representatives that were sent out, they were top-of-the-line, 5-star. The plumbing company was superb and acted in a timely fashion but if I had not pushed AHS, I would have not had hot water for the rest of that day or the weekend. To have to hurry up and wait, I don't like it as well as changing my policy with no notice and not knowing what it is.

So I called back AHS and I told them, "Can you give me another person? This person is saying he will not touch it." But AHS refused. So I fixed it on my own and it only cost me $800. When I have a plumbing issue, AHS fixes it. But one year later, the same plumbing issue happens. So I don't know what the person fixed, but I'm usually having repeating problems. But not very often. When the clothes washer and the dryer stopped working, AHS replaced it.

I submitted a claim for my bathroom exhaust fan. It made loud noises and did not work properly. American Home Shield's rep didn't understand what I was saying, and I had to call back because I received the confirmation of what they would do and it was not what I called for. I said the bathroom exhaust fan. The confirmation coming back said ceiling fan. I called back and I was told, “Probably because we don't have that category listed when we're entering the information.” Yet it is a category in their policy. So, something's not right. They made a note of it, but I don't have confirmation of that.

One of the issues is my policy expires on Thursday. They would not send the dispatch out until Thursday. It's gonna be a week between the call and when someone could come. So, my fear is when the repair person comes, he’s gonna say, “This is not a ceiling fan. This is an exhaust fan.” And that might cause some issues.

But when Diamond Garage Doors came out, they did it when they said they would, and they fixed my garage doors. They tried to upsell me something. I expected that. But they fixed the problem. Each of my two doors has two springs. On one of the garage doors, both of the springs were stretched out. The other door was fine. So, I had a baseline. I know what they should look like when they're good. Diamond came. I took pictures and said, “I don't want anybody coming out unless it's covered.” And I was told it was, but when they came here, he said, “Right now, I just gotta make sure it's covered.” So, they don't completely trust their repair people. But I like that it didn't cost me anything other than the deductible. They call it a service charge, but to come out to fix the garage door springs, it cost me $125.

It took longer to get someone out than it should have. If I was just to call someone up for the garage door springs, I'm sure I could have had someone the same day, if I didn't have insurance. But they had someone dispatched. Took a week. I searched on the person. I knew the company AHS sent and they rated F in the Better Business Bureau. That was not my experience with them, but it leads up to, “What kind of company am I dealing with at this point?” But I was satisfied with the work they did.

I am very happy with the contractor. But I had to wait for a while. It took me almost the whole day to arrange for that to be done, because it was one person who would pick up the phone, and another would answer. I called back and called and called. I called on a Monday, and they gave me an appointment for the next week on Thursday. I waited for the first tech to come and check. It was three days. I waited for another five days. I called Home Shield again and again. They gave me a company that did not know when the guy would come to check it out. So, I begged Home Shield. I said, “Do something. I really live by myself alone. I'm 77. I am not in good health. And it's very hot. It's Florida.” They said, “Okay. We will try to connect you with another company.” Finally it was done.

I waited five days for South Cooling to come. I called them. Maybe they at least would see if it could be a little bit earlier than the Thursday that they gave me an appointment. They said, “We put it on the computer that you ask for that, but if we will have that cancellation, we will send you someone.” But they never called. They never did it earlier than the day and the hour that was scheduled.

The first time the guy came, he checked it out, especially I just have a unit inside my apartment and another on some piece that I never saw, but it was on the roof of the building. He checked inside. He also checked outside. Found out that I needed two parts to be changed. One, some part inside the apartment in the air conditioning unit, another part on top on the roof. He wrote it down. I signed it. And they submitted that to Home Shield. It was approved. And they made an appointment. They said they needed to get the parts and somebody to come.

I waited five days. Another tech checked inside the apartment. The part is needed. And he went on the roof with the security guard. He did this part on the top, checked it out in both places. It started working. I signed another paper that he changed two parts in my apartment. I called South Cooling and I said to somebody that I was very happy with both technicians' work and behavior. It was very professional. And they were polite.

My microwave was broken and AHS took 4 months and still not fixed. They picked a bad vendor and vendor was not able to fix but then it AHS priority to find a different vendor or get a whatever reports they need from Sears. They can't make their members suffer because of that. If there was zero rating I would have given that. I would advise to seriously think before buying home insurance from them.

We had a claim with American Home Shield on the microwave and another one with the washer and dryer. We paid for it upfront on the credit card and they called us the next day. But the tech always had to order a part. The last time, the guy from Rick's Plumbing who came out said it doesn't hurt to call this number to see where the part is. And it was a little slow on that. But they came and figured out the problem in a very short time. They ordered the parts the first time right here on the cell phone. It took a week to get the part and then they were here about two days later. But it always seemed to come on a Friday. So, Saturday and Sunday they're booked. But we were happy with it.

It's just that the panel they put on the microwave is acting up a little bit. It could just be me doing it too fast so I'm slowing it down and see if we're having any issues. But I don't think we are. It was a little tough for the laundry on the claim with the washer and dryer. It took 15 days total from beginning to end and that seemed a little long.

The experience with American Home Shield has been very good. The people say they're gonna call you and they do when they say. They check back with you. There's always somebody in the office, like at Rick’s Plumbing. It's not like he's the only one there and out and it's just an answering machine. And the insurance policy people followed up. I said I checked for the part and they said they did the same thing, so they knew about it. I told the lady it was a rush and she said she would put it in for the rush. So, the techs got the part overnight and were here the next day. It was efficient and painless. They knew what they were doing. American Home Shield’s system is based on them making money and if it's a little slower, then they make more money. If they try to rush things, there's a cost usually involved for shipping faster. But the outcome was fine so it was okay. We had communication with everybody.

American Home Shield replaced my refrigerator several years ago and the only thing that was wrong with the old one was the ice maker. So, I stuck it on my back porch and it worked just fine for several years. All of a sudden, the freezer went out. So, I called AHS and got Iceman Cooling to come out. The tech said it was low on Freon and they could take care of that. AHS declined the claim because of my abuse of the equipment because I put it out where it was hot.

This time, I had a claim on the air conditioner and the tech said the drain on it was not working properly and it caused a big buildup of fluid. In Arizona, in the bottom of the air conditioners and anything that's left outside that has water in it, it evaporates and leaves this gooky grime. And that had developed in there and that wasn't something that was covered by AHS. So, I took an air hose and put it in the drain and sprayed all the gook out of it. I had to pay an extra $100 for the tech to do that and that wasn't covered by AHS either. I've been a customer of AHS for a long time and every time I've called, the contractors have come and fixed the problem, except for those two times. I like American Home Shield and if I have a problem with anything in the house, they'll come and fix it for me. I love it. I was surprised when they raised the rates but I understand inflation has got it.

I put in a service request for American Home Shield to fix my cooktop on 06/15/2023. The technician had been came to the house and fixed it several times and still can not fix it. Until 09/19/2023, more than 3 months after the service request, the technician came again and he completely broke the cooktop. He scratched heavily on the surface of the cooktop and the cooktop is completely off. I can’t cook at all. Until today 09/22/2023, I called American Home Shield many times to ask them to replace the whole unit of my cooktop ASAP because they couldn’t fix it for so long but they said they will just replace only the surface cooktop that the technician messed up.

I have to wait another 5-7 business days for them to buy the part (surface of the cooktop) which they are not sure if it is on stock. What can I do? I have young children and I have to cook for them every day. I haven’t had a cooktop to cook for more than 3 days already and AHS asked me to wait again. I need an answer from AHS please. Thanks!

But I thought I had a different gas leak so I had to have somebody come out and they the contractor from AHS didn't fully fix that leak. I've also had somebody else come for my AC that was leaking into my kitchen. That tech told me a bunch of stuff about my system and those have been proven to be 100% wrong. He didn't touch a single thing. The quality of the people they're sending out is incredibly subpar. They are unhelpful/scary because they're not worth anything. I've only been protected with American for like three weeks and I'm regretting my choice. Choose a different insurance.

Last year, our under-counter microwave went out, and American Home Shield replaced it 100%. We were fine. We didn't have to look for anybody to come out and look at our unit. If American Home Shield trusts the contractor, then we trust them. The only thing we had to pay out of pocket was the $75 for the technician to come out. They sent an email with comparable microwaves for us to choose from. The techs installed the replacement.

Recently, my air conditioning unit wasn't cooling. We had someone come and put Freon in it, and less than a week later, it was blowing hot air again. AHS sent a technician out from Climate King and he told us the unit needed to be replaced. He said there was a leak in the coil and you can't replace the coil so you have to replace the whole unit. He turned in his report and then we received an email from American Home Shield stating that the parts were being ordered by Climate King and the amount that we would be responsible for paying. We were satisfied with the service by the contractor.

We like how AHS gives us peace of mind. We like knowing that if something breaks down, we have some protection. We may have to pay some, but we don't have to pay all of it. So, we absolutely did not complain about the portion we had to pay because we knew if we didn't have American Home Shield, it would have been a lot more than that.

I'm kind of perplexed about American Home Shield. The air conditioning went out and we needed to have $5,000 with the insurance. So we decided to just call it a loss and ask for a payout, which has been in question. They're more than happy to have a payout. They just wanna have it itemized on how they came up with the price of the payout. The second thing is there were some appliances that needed repair. One was for the dishwasher that they put in in 2019 and it wasn't installed correctly from American Home Shield. So the guy came, and he knew what was wrong with it, which was great. But there was also a part for some reason that they were having to source, which was very odd. The unit is only a few years old and they have to source a part for it.

I was charged again for the dishwasher because it was outside the 30-day window. The dishwasher that the company installed had missing parts. We just thought it didn't work right. So when the contractor came out to make the repair recently, they said, "Oh, where's the upper arm?" I told them there had never been one. This dishwasher sucks.

The air conditioning people are crooks. I have to have another company always come in to double check what they're doing because they've done some things that we even caught on video, but lost the video because of Ida. But the appliance people have been excellent. The plumbing companies have been hit or miss. American Home Shield doesn't cover plumbing things at times, and then other times they do cover stuff.

I have a number of properties and I have some other accounts that have American Home Shield. But in the last two years, it kind of exploded on the cost, which I'm just noticing from the bills that I'm getting. It's gone well over 2,000 a year and the deductible is going up. But overall, I would recommend them if I need to have a home warranty company right now. It's gotten much better when it comes to calling in or making service requests.

American Home Shield sent a really good guy from M&G Plumbing. I was very satisfied with the work he did. I had a guy come out today because they were waiting for parts for the refrigerator. They replaced the ice maker for me and it seems to be working now. So, I'm happy about that. The guy spent about 45 minutes and got it done. He pulled the fridge out and shoved it back in. He's a really nice guy. He lives in the neighborhood. I got my washing machine fixed. I'm happy about that, too. I also got a brand new stove and a brand new dishwasher. So, it was a good couple of weeks. They just had to wait for the equipment to come into the distribution center here.

I felt bad for one guy. They should have two guys on the truck and not do that to him. He was out by himself. He had 30 different installations to do that day. The stove took five minutes. He cleaned up behind it, which was good. The dishwasher took a little longer because it hadn't been moved in a long time, and that was nasty. So, I got that all cleaned up. Then he put the new one in and got it all hooked up. There are no leaks, and we use it every day.

As far as American Home Shield's customer service, they answer quickly. You don't have to wait, and they seem to be very empathetic. I had no problem communicating with them. So, I was very satisfied speaking with them. The app is really easy to navigate. It's very self-explanatory. I did one of the claims through the app and had no issues. I'd tell my friends to get AHS. I don't know how long I'll keep the plan but right now, it's been a godsend. What makes it good is it covers so many different things. You're not searching for people. It's a one-stop shop. You call them and within a day, you get a call back from whoever it is.

As far as their replacements, you have an option of a voucher for what they thought it was worth or you just pick from them. They had everything from zero cost to $700 out-of-pocket. It just depends on what you want to do. I went with the zero cost, and the only difference that I can see within the machinery is that newer stuff is made from more plastic parts than the old stuff, but everything works fine.

My experience with American Home Shield was very good. I was happy. I had three issues (one with the roof, one with the AC split unit, and one with the microwave) and everything was done over the phone. The split unit was the first one. The repair people came out, looked at it, but they couldn't fix it. They replaced that totally. They ordered a brand new split unit, and it's working great. The next item was the microwave. I couldn't see the amount of time that I would punch in for an item. The repair people diagnosed that, then they ordered a new display board. The last thing was the roof. We had a slight leak in four spots with Hurricane Hillary out here in Palm Desert. The repair people fixed all the spots and flashing, and they did good job.

I had to pay the $85 fee to have someone come out on each visit, and with the split unit, I also had to pay 300 bucks for a different kind of line that they had to put in. On the roof, I had to pay $700 over the amount as well, but on the microwave, I did not pay anything on top of the $85 fee. All in all, it turned out great. Otherwise, we would have had to come out with thousands more. I got $8,000 worth of repairs for $1,800.

They've been out three times for the same issue, but it's not a big deal since I don't have to pay to have them come out for the same issue. The tech troubleshooted the first time, fixed some other things, checked some other things that I asked for, and came out the second time and tried fixing the issue again. He said if it starts leaking again, we're gonna have to replace the whole thing. I have a pending claim now.

It was almost fall when they finally got somebody out to fix it. They didn't cover it like they said it would and I ended up still having to pay a lot of the cost. I've been thinking about getting rid of AHS. They advertise that if they can't fix the unit, they will replace it. But they didn't say that they have a limit on what they pay and that you have to pay a percentage of it.

We knew when we first moved in that the unit was an original and we were told that we were on borrowed time. But every time, we were diligent in making sure that we were gonna get as much time out of it. At that point in time, no one said anything. The techs were surprised it was still running great and we might get a lot more time out of this thing than we realize. So, we just kept doing our maintenance work on it to make sure it's primed and ready for the summer season. We went on a family vacation in July and then we just had the inside of the house all freshly painted before we left, and there was a stain in our ceiling. Our unit in the ceiling was leaking so the techs came and flushed out the system. They said everything was fixed.

A couple of months went by and then, we found another spot. The same thing was done and everything was fixed. Then we found another spot, which was when the tech said our coil needed to be changed out. We explained to them we were leaving to go out of the country and we were told we could probably wait till we come back. So, we put it on the shelf. When we left the next day, the outside unit went out so we had to deal with that when we were overseas. We were in Italy so, the only times that we could coordinate with American Home Shield were between 10:00 at night and 1:00 in the morning due to the time difference. So, we spent our evenings calling between the contractors and the insurance, trying to make sure we were on top of it and things were still moving forward.

We had to get someone to come out and look at the outside unit. Sub-Zero's techs came out and my father said they were just going through the motions, especially the one who came out on the Friday before Labor Day and the Labor Day weekend. He was here no more than five minutes. And then, we didn't have the best service from the phone coordinator. I asked her what time the technician would be there for the Friday job and she said anywhere between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. I said that’s a 12-hour window. I remember exactly what she told me because I was in shock when she said, “Well, honey, I'm just fitting you in.” I told her she could speak to my husband and that I was done with her.

The tech replaced a part in the unit and went to start it up. The guy opened the box outside and said the breaker got blown out. The wires were burned so he couldn’t do anything. We needed an electrician to come out. So, they contacted the electrical company. The electrician came out, looked at it and said the breaker was fine. He was just gonna replace it just because he was there. He was great and very knowledgeable. We then had to wait for the AC people to come back out again to finish the job that they started. And it turned out that the AC unit needed more repairs than initially assessed. Everything was done via phone. But my father was here.

My father and my mother-in-law were supposed to be staying in our home with our children for 10 days while we were out of the country. But the AC went out so they couldn't stay here. We're in Arizona and it's 110 degrees outside. My parents live in town, a little further away, so they just relocated to their house. If they weren't in town, we would have had to put them in a hotel. But no solution was offered.

I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield. I would rather set my money aside for the what-ifs that happen around the house. Instead of paying your premium every month, you can use that money to put into an account. That way, you don't have to pay the deductibles or the service fees every single time. We've had the techs out for the AC unit at least eight times and it's $100 every single time at minimum. That's just the service charge. If there are parts to be replaced, we have to pay for those as well on top of it.

I was disappointed with the service with AHS. There was no sense of urgency on behalf of some of the technicians to submit their reports to the insurance so we could take the next step forward. It was always waiting on reports being submitted, reviewed, or any sort of direction on where we should go. And by the time all was said and done, we were having to pay almost $8,000 to get our unit fixed. But the issue is that we were informed that once the unit gets fixed by these contractors, there's only a 30-day warranty on their work. So, if it goes out again, we're out of pocket again. So, we decided to take the route of just purchasing a whole new AC unit because that's about $4,000 more and we get the peace of mind of it being warrantied for 10 years.

This is by far the most corrupt company out there! First off the vendors/contractors they work with all have 1 star! And I understand why. They sent this company to fix our washer and the guy was so rude with bad attitude and couldn't even fix our washer after three attempts. So I decided to exercise my cash out option and take that money to go buy a new washer. Which would benefit both AHS and me. But let me tell you, AHS is a corrupt company! They will never allow you to exercise your cash out option because they keep giving me the run around that the vendor needs to submit docs. Well the vendor claims they did and AHS claims they did not. And it's been months and AHS will not do anything about it because they are saying they can't do anything till the Vendor responds to them. And the vendor probably never will because I have tried to reach out to them and they just hang up on me.

AHS is a complete joke! They are breaking all the terms to their contract and they refuse to help. I have escalated the issue three times with no outcome. They just keep telling me to call back in three days an escalate the issue. It's like you're in the twilight zone dealing with this company. They will just keep sending you to different department and never send you to the right place to talk to someone that can actually help. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company! I file claims to American Home Shield by phone directly with their call center and sometimes you have problems understanding the person. But dealing with them has been alright.

Recently, there was something wrong with my garage door and it voided the warranty. The door was dented and AHS said that the door is not covered by them and then, I'd have to replace the panel on the door before they could cover my garage door opener being fixed. So, I had to pay 800 something dollars out of my own pocket to have a company come out and fix it. But AHS has been good for everything else. I have had American Home Shield for years. I had it for rental properties that I had before and for my personal property and I have used them a lot for years. Submitting claims online is very easy. I go in, sign in, and I have my properties listed. Right now, the only one is my home. I just put a claim. They have it divided by what type of claim, if it is AC, plumbing or electric, and you just pick one of the general areas, and then you can subdivide it to what the problem is. Then you submit it and you pay right there with your credit card. They tell me right away which contractor has been assigned to me and their phone number and they say that, within 24 hours, they will contact me and that I'm more than welcome to contact them, too.

Recently, my air conditioner wasn't getting cold air and the guys came in and changed a motor. Then, the same day at night, it started not working and the next day it was completely gone. So, I called again and they came in and fixed it and it's working great now. I'm very pleased. The same guy came both times. He explained to me and he was very professional. The only downside with American Home Shield is the wait time. For this claim, it took a week and a half. When we first started the first claim, they didn't have any appointments until five days later.

By experience, I just say, "Give me whatever you have first available." Because they were like, "Oh, we can try to go with another contractor." I've done that before and I said, "Nope, give me the first available that you have." He came in, found out that it was one of the motors. So, he needed to go and get the motor. That took another three days, and then he came in and installed, and then, the next day, it went out again and that was a three day weekend. So, they didn't come until the Tuesday to come and fix it. I'm very lucky that I had a second unit.

I always tell my friends about AHS. They're like, "Oh, I spent this much on fixing this or that." They just need to get American Home Shield, and they go. It's a flat rate. If they cannot fix it, they'll just replace it. I like the peace of mind. I know that if anything goes bad, they will come. I'll pay the $100, and if they cannot fix it, they'll replace it.

When I signed up with AHS, it was quick and easy. From shopping around to the coverage I got to the price that they offered, it was the most competitive. Plenty of other places are offering less coverage for more money. So far, so good. AHS is one of those things that I'm happy to have. I filed a claim online. Everything was handled automatically. The website was excellent. It was very easy to use. Everything was done correctly and quickly. We had one of our air conditioning units fail out on us. They took care of it right away. They sent somebody to the house. They were great. They got us back up and running in no time. And we were very happy with it. I've recommended American Home Shield to two of my friends who also signed up.

I had an issue with my refrigerator that needed repair. It was a compressor issue. AHS sent out three service technicians who did not offer the kind of service that I needed. Eventually, they sent someone out to repair the compressor. It got fixed but only after a two-month period of waiting without a refrigerator. I wasn't very happy with that aspect of it. AHS could vet their contractors to make sure they're able to perform a wide array of services for the type of service call they're going out on and to make sure that the issue is resolved more expeditiously. I discontinued my service for about a year and went with another home warranty company. I recently returned to AHS within the past few months and had an issue with my air conditioner. That got resolved right away. I'm satisfied with the level of service in that claim process for service.

A couple of times, my experience with American Home Shield wasn't very good. They sent somebody to fix my pool heater. Then I had a problem and it took three weeks for them to finally understand that the person who was doing it didn't know what he was doing. That was rectified and I got retribution for that but I had to write to the president of the company. I had another problem with my microwave. It did not get fixed. They sent this person and he took it all apart. He said there was nothing wrong with it. I told him it was not popping popcorn. I called American Home Shield and complained. I told them I shouldn't have had to pay it. I asked for somebody else to come out for a second opinion. But they sent the same person out.

When I filed a claim for my washer, they sent three different people out. They couldn't find why water was coming out. One was the Sears person, one was two other people, and finally one other person came. What happened was it wasn't anything wrong with the machine itself. Apparently, it was a floating thing and it was going back and forth in the tube.

Another problem I had recently was that they said that the item that I called them for wasn't covered. I had a faucet outside which was connected to the house. It had a brass base. During the winter, it may have cracked and I didn't know it, but it had been wrapped up. They didn't cover it because it's outside the house which doesn't make sense. They wanted to charge me $375. I always talked to this person and told her exactly the situation with the faucet. But the other person who took the information put it as something else as opposed to a faucet repair for a leak. That's why I would like to talk to somebody and try to get the same person. I wound up calling my own person and paid $159.

American Home Shield is reducing a lot of the fixes that they used to always do so I'm not as happy as I was with them a long time ago. The prices went up for the service too. It was $75 for the last few years and now, it's $100. But I'm still hanging in there because it was good when I had my air conditioner done. I had a new air conditioner put in because what I had was old and not working. They paid what they were supposed to pay. Most of the claims have been by people who are reputable. I've only had two other people who are banned from coming.

They worked on a shutoff valve on the water heater, replaced two water spigots outside my house and fixed the main shutoff valve to stop leaking. They recently replaced a part on my dishwasher too. They ended up also replacing my whole refrigerator with a new one. They covered it. They gave me a list of refrigerators. They said the ones with zero as the cost was free to me and the ones with a price on it was what they wouldn't cover and that was what would come out of pocket. It was a good selection of free ones.

However, AHS upped the monthly by 15 or 20 bucks and there were no notifications. But I called and they lowered my rate back down to what it was originally when I first purchased it for the next year. They fixed it. There was also one incident, but it was the contractor. But they hurried up, gave me another different contractor and the job was completed.

But on this past service request we had to do, we had to wait six weeks for our appliance to be serviced. It was three weeks before a servicer could get here then three weeks for the part to be delivered and the servicer to get back. But other than that, we've had no issues. We normally hear back within 24 to 72 hours from the servicer and they're right on time and amazing.

We can get something accomplished with American Shield but a lot of times it's up to me to make sure. I can't give it to them and just leave it with them and trust that it's gonna happen. But as far as the coverage itself, I'm satisfied with the coverage that I receive for the money that I pay. I made a claim for my dryer when the heating element went out. The guy that came out was really good. Every technician is not as good so that's part of the problem with the warranty company. They don't necessarily vet the people that they're sending to your house.

The one that came out for my dryer opened up the unit and within five minutes, he was telling me what the problem was. He didn't have the part with him so he had to order it and come back and put it in. When he came back to put it in, he was in the house for less than 15 minutes and was done. This was the best technician I ever received. A lot of these guys call somebody to figure out how to do stuff because they don't know how to do it themselves. They're just beginning in the repair business and don't have the experience.

American Home Shield is like an insurance policy. I don't wanna have a major appliance like an AC go out and have a $10,000 appliance that I need to replace or something big like a refrigerator that’s maybe 3,000. Paying the warranty monthly gives me the feeling of security that if something big like that goes out, then I'll have some help replacing it. The only thing is the price goes up like everything else is going up.

My hot water heater rusted out and water was flowing through the garage. I did a claim online with American Home Shield for a repair. That was really easy and simple. I just put it in and clicked on it. I had somebody go out there for the claim. They called me back within an hour or two, and I had a claim number and I was told that somebody would call me within 24 hours.

The technicians did the job that they were supposed to. They replaced the water heater, the expansion tank. They said they did something with the base of the water heater so the new one would fit. They did the wiring and some copper hoses. But that's not what I saw in the pictures. I'm in Texas and my tenants are living there in the house where the claim was for.

We've been with American Home Shield since 2019. I had to deal with them a lot of times and they never did anything except for now. On the whole, I'll tell others to go somewhere else. I've dealt with the contractors through the phone or through my tenants. I wasn't too happy with them. But they did the job and they knew what they were doing. But I got overcharged for the stuff that they said that was not covered under the warranty.

American Home Shield is doing great so far. But I haven't heard anything about what happened to the last appointment. They fixed the washer and dryer, and dishwasher. But it's not completely done because my dryer needs the filter when you dry clothes. But the dishwasher needs a mounting to it. Because every time I try to open the dishwasher, it moves the machine itself. So I need something mounting to screw it up so that it won't keep moving. But I never heard anything about it. Usually, the company would follow up and tell me what's going on.

For the first time, they made a mistake because the AC went out again after days. When I called back, at first, they could not get somebody over there to fix it right away. I was irritated because it was too hot. And I have an elderly. I understand that everybody needs an AC man right now. So, I'll wait. I get over it. But everything went well. I'm happy with their service for the second time around.

Anybody that's buying a home right now, I would tell them about American Home Shield. I've had it on every one of my homes. I was dropped because I wanted to be charged on the 1st of the month. I live on a fixed income. It comes in on the 1st, and if you're not there to automatically get paid on the 1st, you're not gonna be paid. I got bills that go out, so, AHS would bill me in the middle of the month. It went month after month, it ended and a new contract started. Because I would pay it, but late. But everything has been straightened out now.

My recent claim went well. AHS sent people out here that knew what they were doing. The guy did a temporary fix. We had to leave the next day for a funeral and we came back the following day, he had already made an appointment for that following day to come back and fix it further, because it had a further damage on the pipe. He came back and did it. He was one of the best we've had. Very little conversation, knew what he was doing. He brought an assistant with him, they got it done, very nice.

I've had the opposite experiences as well. AHS changed 100% in the last six months. This whole thing is a new, good experience. They went computer, and it's, "They're taking appointments now." I used to wait three days to get on the phone with somebody. I resented even belonging to AHS. But they cover my air conditioning and heating unit. That's a very important thing. So, I stayed with them. I see that I'm only paying $49 a month instead of $75. That was a unilateral change. I wish they would have told me clearer, but it went down. $100 is now what I pay when someone comes up. But if they send good people like these last people, I got no problem with it. And it's easy now. I called, and in minutes, they had me taken care of. I'm happy with AHS.

American Home Shield's customer service is brutal. From the supervisors, there's no empathy. My air condition is fully fixed because I had to call the guy out twice. But he misdiagnosed it. His company made me wait for a week in 95-degree weather. And they claimed that my issue was due to refrigerant, but it had refrigerant. I just wanted to pay a professional company to come out so we didn't have to wait for a week. They told me that I couldn't do that. My claim would be voided. We had to stick it out for eight days, because on the day that the tech was supposed to come, he called and said that their technician was sick. So, when I need to talk to somebody on the customer service side is where the gap is.

I use the website. But I had to call because when I got my refrigerator replaced, they have a policy that says within 48 hours, somebody is supposed to call me back. Nobody did. And they said they would have a supervisor call me, but I had to wait another 48 hours. It took four days before anybody picked my claim up.

The first time I put in the claim, they told me a week. So, I called in and said, “You said 48 hours. I can't be without refrigerator without a week.” “There’s nothing we can do about that.” “Can somebody call me back if there's some type of escalation process?” They said that they had a process that it would be assigned and somebody would call me back within 48 hours. I asked the person on the phone, “Is there any other company you can call for me to see, that they have a relationship with you all?” He said, “I called everybody and nobody could do it. You gotta wait 48 hours.”

I went back on to the website. I did a new claim. That was when Elite popped up. I called Elite myself and said, “Do y'all have any appointments?” They said, “We can come out tomorrow.” So, I set that one up. I had two appointments. I went back and canceled the other one. I had to resolve my own issue because they said they couldn't do it. They came out. They said they fixed it. A few days later, I had the same problem. And they made me wait eight days for them to come back out.

The tech just came for the second visit. It appears to be right now. But when he came for the first visit, he didn't do a full diagnosis. He just checked the refrigerant and said, “That's what the problem is.” Didn't check anything else. There was water that was in my attic, but he said the refrigerant caused it. He told me that day he put refrigerant in. Three days later, I had the same problem. They told me, “We have to change your refrigerant out. And AHS doesn't pay for that, so you gotta pay $880. And when you pay for that, if that's not the problem, we'll see what the problem is.” So, I had to pay $880 out of my pocket. I'm waiting to see if it's resolved. I will probably go to 2-10 because of my experience with AHS.

My air conditioning unit malfunctioned. It was working but it wasn't blowing cold air. I submitted a claim online through American Home Shield's website. The contractor got back to me within the same day and scheduled an appointment for me a couple of days out, but I told them that if they had a cancellation to call me. They had a cancellation and called me. They came out the next day. It was a very professional company. They drove a nice truck. They had a professional person who asked me what was wrong, diagnosed the situation, fixed it, and luckily, was out of there in about 30 minutes.

I first got the coverage from American Home Shield for a family property in another state. We had a furnace replaced out there. I saw that the furnace got replaced and the cost of that. I thought then that I needed American Home Shield on my house. So I bought one for my home. I like that American Home Shield is a one-stop shop. If anything goes wrong, I don't have to go find somebody to call. I can call the Home Shield company, and they'll have a contractor for it. Plus I'm in the insurance business, so the more insurance I can get, the better I am. I had the whole main unit of one of my air conditioners go out a couple of years ago, and it was covered and replaced. Instead of costing me $8,000, it cost me $800.

When I have issues with appliances, I have to fight tooth and nail to get what American Home Shield promised. For instance, my Bosche dishwasher went out and the guy that came out was awesome. But those Bosch dishwashers are expensive and at first, American Home Shield sent me $800 to cover. You can't even get a decent dishwasher with that amount. The agreement is they replace what was broken if they have to replace it. The $800 didn't even cover delivery charges and setup. I talked to American Home Shield at least three times and they finally gave me an extra $217. So, they sent me a Lowe's card for $1,017. But I had to add because dishwasher came out to $1,500.

I don't like that with American Home Shield, you can't talk to a live person unless you start arguing and get frustrated. Then they finally set you up to talk to somebody live. When I talked to them about a garage door issue, I tried to tell them that the motor on the garage door was working. I said the issue was the spring and asked them if they covered it. The rep said they cover it. When somebody came out to fix it, he checked it out and then went to their truck and called American Home Shield to let them know what the problem was. But the garage door guy came back and told me that it was not under my warranty. I told him, “You know what? I realize that, but they told me it was.” But I kept on telling them that it was the spring and it was not the garage door opener. After calling about a month several times, American Home Shield finally reimbursed me my $100 fee for sending somebody out. So, I was glad of that because they were in the wrong.

It will be my third year with American Home Shield on December. Initially, the fee was about $49 and then they increased it to $67.32. I had a little bit of issue with that because I did not get a call or text. I did not get a email saying that they were going to raise the warranty. It was a big surprise. It was right in the middle of December when everybody wanted extra money. So, American Home Shield lowered my monthly payment. I didn't have to pay for December. Then they lowered January and February. Then in March, I had to pay the $67.32. So, I'm going to watch the end of November to see if I get an email, a text, or a call.

I had a claim for the dishwasher where the piece of the top rack broke. It was all wobbly and I couldn't really put dishes over there. Submitting a claim was pretty easy for the most part. I did it over the phone and they listened to the issue. I asked if it would be covered and they said yes. It was very easygoing. The contractor who came out was very professional. They replaced a part and they put metal as a replacement. But I had another claim for a leaking basement and they didn't cover it. That's the one complaint I have. I wanted to know if that was covered and I explained that to the representative. They said that it was but when the technician got here, it wasn't. They explained why, but I wish they had explained that to me on the phone call. I fought to get my money back for that and I did, but they said from then on, I can't get money back for stuff like that.

Also, when I applied to get American Home and Shield, they explained to me the benefits that came with it. For the premium addition, one of the benefits was a complimentary AC tune-up. But when I tried doing that, they said that wasn't available. It doesn't make sense to me because I was told that it would be available. They wanted to wait until it was at least 75 degrees, which I waited, but then when it happened, the option wasn't available. I feel like that's a little bit of false advertising.

Also, I was without a refrigerator for over a month and I was getting really frustrated that I was looking at other companies that do the same thing AHS does. But the techs are pretty good. My washing machine's spin cycle wasn't spinning anymore. The tech was very nice and he knew what he was doing. He found the part that was broken right away. He had one in the truck and fixed it. It only cost me $100 for the visit and the part. So, I didn't have to buy a new washing machine. I had this total feeling of safety with him in the house.

What I'm not happy about is my contract. This is my third year with them and my original contract said that if my HVAC system goes out, they would replace it or at least give me money toward another one. Now, they have put a $5,000 cap on HVAC replacement and they said that's for everybody, no matter how long you've been a client of theirs. I'm not very happy about that as that's the whole reason I bought the warranty.

Plus it's hard to talk with them on the phone. You get people overseas and all they do is read from a script. I had to ask for a manager to finally understand that my policy doesn't say anything about the limit. But they said, "Well, that's because your renewal is coming out in a month or two." It took me an hour to get that figured out. I would prefer to make a call to schedule the service instead of having to go online, but that's just how things are these days.

Also, AHS used to have ways for me to request annual maintenance for my HVAC unit. That isn't available anymore and I'm not happy about that. Before I started doing that through AHS, I did it twice a year with my air conditioner company. I had a problem where I had to submit a claim to have techs check my AC and I was very pleased. It would have cost me $2,000 and they replaced it all for $100. Because they did the $2,000 repair and between that and the fact they repaired my washing machine, I'm still ahead on what premiums I've paid. AHS is a good product especially if you have older systems.

My claim for my hot water heater was pretty easy. Somebody inspected it and replaced it. I had to pay some of the cost out of pocket though. Other than that, AHS has been good. Part of my rationale for having a home warranty is it makes it a little easier to get somebody out when something happens. Their network of providers is pretty good. I usually get good service in terms of people coming out right away.

Terrible!!!! Do not waste your time and money with this warranty company. Every time I filed a service request with this company regarding my AC nothing was ever fixed or I was overcharged by there go to HVAC Amazing Comfort. They told me to repair my AC unit I would have to pay $3400 in out of pocket costs. What a joke! I asked to be escalated to a manager and I quote "The escalation department is done taking calls for the day they can get back to you in 24 hours". I have been without AC for 10 days both them and the AC company dragged their feet. Don't waste your money, you're better off saving your money for your own repairs and calling a technician of your choosing. Wasted 2 years worth of money on this garbage warranty company. Stay away!!!

I had several claims with AHS for my air conditioning unit in my condo. I always request services online and within a day, I get a response from my assigned repairperson. Then usually, they schedule something depending on the service. Sometimes, the air conditioning service in the middle of summer would be hard to schedule but it has never been more than a week to wait. When the techs would come out, they'd inspect and oftentimes, would be able to fix the problem. But some of the times, the issue wouldn't be covered, so I would have to get the item repaired then pay some cost out of pocket.

There was a time when the digital panel went out with my refrigerator, so it wasn't cooling. And rather than replacing the refrigerator, the techs took off the panel and sent it out for a repair. That took almost a month and a half. I got on the phone with AHS and told them that I could not be without a refrigerator for that long. So they authorized me to purchase a small refrigerator and I had to submit a receipt. Then they reimbursed me for that. I also had a repair on a washing machine during COVID and that one was odd. The technician wanted to do a video inspection and that was my first experience with this video inspection. He had me do a couple things to the washing machine, then over the phone and over the video, pretty much said that the washing machine could not be repaired. So American Home Shield reimbursed the entire appliance for me.

So most times, the repair is pretty quick and the techs are usually able to resolve the issue on the first time they come out, with the exception of the washing machine and the refrigerator because those parts were not available or they needed to do the reimbursement. But even with the reimbursement on the washing machine, it was really rather quick. I was given the choice of either getting a gift card at Lowe's or I purchasing a unit then just submit the receipt. They wanted to see the receipt and model number of the item that I purchased and supposedly, that was going to be added to my file as far as my appliance and to be covered under the warranty.

I ended up doing the gift card so that I could use that gift card to apply towards the purchase of what I really wanted. I got 700 for my washer and since I did a washer dryer combo, I ended up paying some out of pocket. When we moved out of our condo and moved into our house, I wanted to keep the warranty on the condo as well, but they wouldn't give me a good discount on having two policies. So I moved the policy to the house that we got.

I like that I can get help and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. Recently, we had a drain in the basement that backed up and it flooded part of the basement, which wasn't fun. I submitted the claim and made the appointment. Then, within 24 hours, the tech, Lenny, came out and got the drain unclogged without any problem. He has been to our house several times because over the 12 years we've lived in this house, we've had a few plumbing problems. He's very good and I like him.

I've done claims by phone, because that's what I was used to in the past, and I've had no issues or problems with any of the representatives. They were all very professional. However, I had a problem with my air conditioner, and American Home Shield first sent out a 22-year-old boy who didn't have a license. He made a report back stating that the whole system had to be replaced and it was gonna cost $11,000. American Home Shield turned it down because the report said preexisting conditions. The bad analysis could have cost me a lot of money, because at that point, I decided to pay someone to replace my heat and air for a lot cheaper than what they were saying would cost me through the home warranty company.

I was also gonna cancel my American Home Shield because I was thinking, I'm paying all this money and I'm not getting any results from it. They asked me to get a second opinion, and they sent out Temprite. This man was very professional and knew what he was doing. He opened up the system, which the other guy did not. The repair man from Temprite found the problem, which is a computer board system inside where the blower was, and he said it was burnt. He said it was an easy fix. Temprite put in for that to be repaired, and the home warranty company approved it. Temprite ordered it, then they came out and replaced it, and it's working fine now. I strongly recommend American Home Shield.

People gave their payment to the repair guy, and now, they do everything online. I just purchased another house a few weeks ago, and I am back with American Home Shield again. As of right now, the house I'm in is only four years old, so prayerfully, nothing that major will go on.

In my last home, when I began to have little issues with my AC unit, I really thought that at some point in time it needed to be replaced. For as long as I was with them though, they never did that. I thought that was unfair because I've been with them clearly long enough to have paid for a unit. Other than that, the service with American Home Shield has always been good, and the repair people have always been pleasant. They've been timely, professional, and a joy to speak with. The technicians have done very well, and I have no complaints.

We thought it was a thermostat problem. We went through with the American Home Shield. They gave me another contractor who has been here before and could not get the job done. So, I had to call AHS back and said I need somebody else. They gave me Eberhardt at that time, who had been here a couple of years ago. I had a much better comfort level. And we're always very pleased with them. They looked at the thermostat and identified the problem was in the air conditioner, not in the thermostat. They had two people here. One was down at the furnace, made sure everything ran properly there, and then repacked this air conditioner with refrigerant. They did a great job.

Customer service has been hit and miss. We've had a lot of claims that we've put in. And we keep track on what we're spending every month versus what we have to replace and the claims we put in. I had no refrigerator for six weeks. I ended up having to buy one myself and was never reimbursed. No one returned my phone calls. I couldn't get a contractor here.

I would talk to a couple of AHS' contractors from the Philippines. I just said, "I'm not sure if you have a refrigerator or not, but if you're going home tonight, you're gonna have something cold to drink or eat. It's probably in a refrigerator. I don't have one. I can't keep going on like this." And they could never get anyone to come here. We're 40 miles outside of Milwaukee. Maybe we're not as easy to get to. So, I had to buy one myself. Also, we've had contractor issues with companies that AHS has sent here. And I try not to allow them in the house anymore. Two years ago, one of them was doing some work and hit a gas line. They knew they had to dig. They did not call Diggers Hotline even though they knew for seven days they would do this.

A different company replaced it. So when Intrastate came out, I had another AC problem, they fixed it. When they were done fixing it, they also checked out the rest of the system to see if there would be any more problems coming up. They said everything looked good, except whoever switched our coiling system, which happened a month before, didn't switch the valve, because there was supposed to be a new valve on there. So, when AHS was contacted about that, they sent out the company that put in the coiling system.

When they came out, they said the other company didn't know what they were doing. They reported it to AHS, and AHS said they would not cover the valve switch, even though that other company said I shouldn't have to pay for the valve switch, because that should have been part of replacing the coiling system earlier.

It took me three and a half months to get my dryer fix. Stevens Appliances came back four times to rebuild my dryer, and that was a real inconvenience for three months. I had to go to the laundromat. I could use my washing machine, but I couldn't use the dryer, which we were trying to get fixed.

Stevens Appliances took their time about it and they kept coming back, and they would replace one part at a time. The first time, they replaced the heating system and just like with a water pump in a car, you gotta change the water pumps, and they didn't do that. Then they came back and replaced the water pumps and then they said, "Oh, it's the motor." They had to wait three weeks to get the motor in. Then they replaced the motor. It was a pain in the telephone and they kept telling me, "Well, you know, if they could get the part, we're just gonna have to wait." They wouldn't get me a brand-new dryer.

Then they told me their software was not able to change my payment date to the 1st of the month. I explained to them, "It's kind of inconvenient for you to charge me on the 26th of each month when I budget my stuff on the 1st and the 15th." I'm a retired disabled veteran. I was half a foot and two knees and my money comes in the beginning. So, I tried to manage it but they told me, "Well, the only way we could do is if you make an extra payment on the 1st and then we'll change it to the 1st." It's sad because I talked to people and whoever they outsource to do the customer service call has been dynamite. They're very efficient, but sometimes you get one that you don't understand what they're saying. They outsource in the Philippines. So, sometimes they don't understand, and then they get frustrated. I've actually been hung up on.

Other than that, AHS really used to be so good. When I lived in Georgia, they were very fast. I don't know if Georgia has more contractors to choose from but in my area of Birmingham, Alabama, there's a problem. It's very frustrating. When COVID hit, the washer head went. It took them a month to get that fixed. I was frustrated and my wife did a Yelp on that to complain. Also, they jack me up on the price. They went from $60 to $100 and said, "Well, we don't give a military discount." They've been giving me a military discount for the last 15 years and now, they don't do it? So, I was like, "That doesn't sound right." I spoke with one of the customer service reps and that wasn't true. They did give me about a $15 to $18 difference in the monthly payments. It used to be $50, then it went to $75, and now, it's $95.

American Home Shield has been good. I had a couple of service requests. One of them was the dishwasher. I called them. They sent a guy out, they had to buy some replacement parts and he replaced it. Some other parts broke on it, and they came back out and fixed it again. Somebody also had to fix the air conditioner. It got plugged and it was leaking. So, I called AHS and they got a contractor to come out and fix that. The technicians were good.

Airmax worked on our AC and they were outstanding. It's like they put a brand-new machine in. When they came out this time, the issue was the part with the magnet. The first time they came out, it was the bolt that had sheared, and it was spinning sideways and it was banging up against the inside of it. So, the tech came out and they replaced that. Then the second time they came out, it had stopped blowing hot air. He showed us where he had to clean the coil, and he replaced the magnet part to make it switch on. We had no problems with it since they came and worked on the bolt. It was great work. Overall, American Home Shield has been great for us. It has worked for us.

They've always fixed it, other than what I pay a month and the deductible to fix whatever I problems I have. I have to wait on some things because of the demand. Right now in Texas, the AC demand is up. So I know that I had to wait a few days for them to come. Other than that, it has been good. My capacitor went out on my condenser. I called AHS. They told me who was coming, and they gave me an around about the time. The contractor was good. It just took him a few days to get out there. They changed the capacitor out. It's working good. Get AHS.

My most recent claim to American Home Shield was the air conditioner again. I have to spend the deductible every time I have to get it redone and it never stays completely fixed. It's not Home Shield. It's probably the vendor that keeps servicing the same equipment. One time, it took three times, and that was a lot to just change the thermostat, which is easy. I probably could do it but I don't wanna do it when I already have the insurance. I don't wanna break things. It was the same company for three times. I had to take off work so I could meet the person there and let him in. So, it gets strange after a while.

I like American Home Shield's quickness. I do not like that they've doubled our monthly premiums. I'm in the process of shopping around. There's some competitors around there. I may be jumping ship even after 11 years. They went from $50 a month when we first got it to 95 a month now. That's kinda high. I like their service though. Their vendors are ok. Maybe if I picked a different company, there would be different vendors servicing it.

Submitting a claim online is an easy process. But AHS should put in more details. It just has generic options in there sometimes. Something else could be the problem. But we have to put the whole item there. Also, American Home Shield bumped up their deductible, but sometimes we got an issue and it got 30 days on it and the issue reoccurred. We would have to wait and see, and have to submit another claim and pay another $100 for it. I disagree with that. I had a problem with my refrigerator that it wasn't making ice, they changed the part and it worked for 28 days. It was the holidays and the problem reoccurred, but I had to put in another claim. Recently, the ac's motor died. So, the tech changed it out. After he told me he was coming, it was fixed within 45 minutes. He cleaned up behind himself.

The refrigerator wasn't cooling down. I called American Home Shield up. They sent somebody out. They were able to repair it, but about 30 days later, it reoccurred. So, they sent somebody out again and then they said that it needed a control panel. It's been about three months now because they haven't been able to locate a control panel for it. I'm still waiting for them to do something. It's still broken. Every time I called up, they would say something different. At one point, they said they were gonna give me a buy-out, and then I can go do whatever I want but then when I called back later when they tell me to call back, they said, “Oh, it's on order. Just keep waiting.” They've been blowing me off pretty good on that one.

I've been with American Home Shield for about seven years, and I have several rental properties that I have them. I have about six contracts with them on six different properties. On the first six calls over the years, they were good. I do see a little bit of a downside to them right now, but I like the convenience of having them. I can send over somebody without even having to be there, and they'll diagnose it and repair it usually within a week or two. I would recommend them, but I would give the caveat that they sometimes will deny a claim or they will find little loopholes to deny a claim. They're just like any other insurance company. They're in business to make money, and not give it out. So for simple things, it's really good. If things are complicated or if they find a way to not cover it, they definitely will.

My experience with American Home Shield (AHS) has been nothing short of a headache. I signed up in March 2023 with high hopes for reliable home warranty coverage. In April, I received an offer for an AC Tune-Up, marketed as essential pre-summer maintenance. Little did I know, this would mark the beginning of a series of frustrations.

During the AC Tune-Up, the technician reported that he had "performed preventative maintenance, and the system was working fine at the time of inspection." This naturally led me to assume my AC system was in good shape and covered by my policy. Fast forward to August, and my AC system suddenly stopped working. I contacted AHS for repairs. The technician who arrived determined that the compressor was locked up and, to my astonishment, said AHS wouldn't cover the repair due to the absence of a $20 filter dryer. Why wasn't I informed about this missing part after the AC Tune-Up, before the system failed? This simple oversight could have spared me significant trouble.

Dismayed and seeking clarification, I called AHS to dispute the denial of my AC repair claim. The first representative I spoke to was unhelpful and evasive, sticking to the "not covered" stance despite my explanations. Seeking a resolution, I requested to speak with a supervisor or manager, but the promise of a callback went unfulfilled. After a week of waiting in vain, I called back, only to go through the ordeal once more with a different representative. As of now, I have made numerous attempts to reach a supervisor or manager at AHS but have been met with silence and inaction. The lack of accountability and transparency in their handling of my claim is disheartening.

In conclusion, my experience with American Home Shield has been characterized by unfulfilled promises, inconsistent communication, and a lack of willingness to address my legitimate concerns. Caution is advised when considering their services; there are undoubtedly more reputable and customer-focused options available in the market.

I had an electrical problem with the outlet and the breaker box. The company that AHS sent was an 11 out of 1 to 10. They called, were on time, looked everywhere they were supposed to, answered all my questions, and fixed everything. I paid $100 last year to have a company come out and fix the switch on a microwave oven. Six months later, I put the house up for sale and it came up on the list of repairs because the microwave door wouldn't open. So, I called them back. They said they only warranty their service for 30 days and that I had to pay another $100. But I didn't feel good about paying twice for the same repair. If I paid you to fix the microwave oven switch on the door, it should be fixed. And I negotiated that out of the sale of the contract. So, it's a moot point at this time.

Aside from that, American Home Shield's customer service is horrible. If you're calling to buy something, they'll answer. If you're calling to file or follow up on a claim, you very seldom get someone that speaks complete English. And they often will not answer the phone or, after a 45-minute hold, will hang up on you. So, they have some processes in place to not follow through on existing claims. It took me nine phone calls to get a bad washing machine repaired.

With the washer, they had to replace the sensor. Overall, the membership has paid for itself. My recent claim was for the air conditioner that was broken and not working. It was a capacitor that needed to be replaced. The experience with the techs was great. I'm glad that we got AHS.

I had a bathroom that was leaking. The techs came in and they fixed it. Then my heater went out, but I wasn't too thrilled on that part. It was because they came and they looked at my heater and said, "Yeah, it's no good." They found out that it was some little piece on the heater. They said that they couldn't find a replacement for the piece. So the whole unit would have to be replaced. But, they wanted me to fork out $2,000 and I don't have $2,000.

Setting up the transport was very easy. I went online and put in some very basic information about what needed to be done. Somebody called me within half an hour, and it was a Friday night, which surprised me. It was 8 o'clock at night and they walked me through that they had somebody and what the cost would be. It was done very quickly, and the courier was great. He was texting back and forth with where to meet for a location. We met at a parking lot, and we did all the paperwork that needed to be done. We both took pictures, and I had to sign a paperwork for him, then that was it. He was texting with my daughter throughout the whole drive, so she knew when to expect him.

The car was picked up on a Wednesday, and there was an initial fee that we paid upon them taking the vehicle. The balance was paid by my daughter when she received the car, and there was no change at all in the quote. The car was delivered on Thursday, and my daughter said it looked perfect. I'd definitely use Sherpa again. My daughter is gonna be coming back in another year. This is only a fellowship she was going out for, so we'll probably use them to bring her car back. I'd definitely tell people to use them as well. The quote was exactly as they quoted. There was no change to it.

American Home Shield is expensive and I often wonder if I should be doing this anymore and if it is worth it. But things happen and my toilet needs to be fixed. The toilet was continuously running and I couldn't fix it. It's a part that had to be replaced. I had to have the repair people come out again because they didn't notice that another part was about to break. And it's still not fixed. It's at the point now that I have to jiggle the handle in order to get it to go down into the hole right, otherwise, it just keeps running. The first time the Maclin Plumbing guy came, I had my mom come over because I was at work. And this time, he came in and barely talked to me. He did it and left. He was very fast and very zipping on out. It's okay, but I'm not gonna ask him to come back.

It tends to be okay with American Home Shield. You're not gonna get somebody quickly but you get somebody eventually. You don't have to worry about who you're gonna call. You just call AHS and pay, and sometimes that works. My AC is still going because they've replaced a few parts. Otherwise, I would have to have replaced it a couple of years ago. So that is nice that they just keep replacing little parts and it just keeps trucking along, which was what I needed to do because I've had a bunch of other stuff I've had to do at the house. I’ve had a couple of surgeries and I haven't been able to afford to do that. So that's nice. If AHS can keep doing that for a few more years, then this is worth it. If not, if it totally goes out and I don't get much for the AC, then this has not been worth it.

The person I talked to confirmed it and got the service scheduled. My other AC unit went out at the beginning of summer and it was the same guy who came out. I recognized him. So, it was very friendly. I enjoyed working with him because he was very personable, knowledgeable and expeditious in getting things done. The AC unit is working great now. I've had a good experience with AHS and the price is good for the service that I've received.

The contractor, Kern Key Services, was very good. We had all the locks on the front door rekeyed from whatever they originally were and the tech took two additional locks that were on some old, ancient key and he put the same lock in those, too. All six keys work great. It was a big improvement. There are certain services from American Home Shield that are good value such as the keying and the garage door opener. The techs re-coded all the garage door openers and lubricated the garage door. It was a completely different company and it was a good interaction. AHS is worth it. At least the first year you get it.

I called up American Home Shield and told them our dishwasher wasn't working at all and the oven wouldn't heat up past 200. There was also a little problem with the refrigerator, and it was something with the line with the water. I can't fix certain things, but having American Home Shield, I can call somebody else to fix it. I just hate how the reps make you put in the credit card first. That was a bit of a pain, but the bigger pain I'm having right now is I made another claim about the AC. Everything was fixed. That went okay, but I was told that there are major things that need to be done that are not covered by the warranty, which costs thousands of dollars. The home warranty company offered to pay out $1,400-something on it, which I know that I can't fix it.

I've also been told by different people that, if I change out the interior, when the outside goes out, it's not gonna be compatible and I'll have to replace the whole system. What American Home Shield wanted to do, the upgrade, I found another guy that told me that he would do it without the warranty being involved, but I'm not that familiar with the AC. People ask me the tonnage and there are all kinds of different terms that I don't really understand. My terminology could be a little better, but the AC is the main one I'm worried about right now. I'm in the midst of trying to figure out what to do with that situation, and I'm really stressed out.

Another issue that I have is when I had a plumbing problem. It was something very simple and it was still $100 to get the guy out there. That got fixed, but I feel sometimes it's cut-rate work that the repair people are doing because they're getting jobs in bulk from American Home Shield. They're quicker to put customers on the back burner. It took me almost a month to get a plumber out there, and if I would've just called somebody out of the phone book, I would have probably gotten somebody in a day or two. I didn't like that, but that's just the way it goes. When American Home Shield gives them bulk business, they have to get it discounted. The cost would have been more than $100 because it had something to do with some bolt. Still, that was done quickly.

Getting in contact with American Home Shield wasn’t hard at all and it took a couple of seconds. Someone answered in a minute. But you can’t understand some of them. You have to ask questions and ask them again. But eventually, it comes across and you can understand what they're saying. I had problems in both bathrooms and the repair people couldn’t get it unclogged. They fixed one but I bought myself another toilet. And they had to replace the faucet on the kitchen sink, which was good.

I received good service from the contractor and they were very courteous. They introduced themselves and told me who was coming out. We talked a lot and the guy explained what he was doing. AHS is a great thing to have. I like that if something can't be repaired, AHS gives you quality merchandise. I have a friend who joined and was satisfied with it. Someone else had told her about it and when she was talking about it, I told her about it also, she said if I got it, she would get it too.

Progressive Appliance and HVAC Repair came out a couple of times for my dryer and my washer. I told American Home Shield, "I don't want Sears to come out here. I want Progressive because they already know my house and the tech lives 10 minutes away from my house," and it worked out. Their service is outstanding. They came out, checked it, verified there was a problem and let me know what was going on. They were straightforward. It took a bit longer because we had to wait for the part, but that's realistic.

The problem with my washer was the transmission. When it would go into spin mode, it would squeak really loud. It was annoying. Initially, we thought it was a coin that got stuck. They replaced the transmission, no questions asked. For the the dryer, it wouldn't heat up. It was a thermal fuse which was a $20 part. The technician was quick. He worked on three things. He also worked on my refrigerator. The Samsung refrigerator has a bad design. When you have the ice maker, the ice seizes up the ice maker. You go to press the button to get ice and the ice wouldn't come out. He replaced the whole thing.

With American Home Shield, there's no playing games. It's worth of time, the wait, and the money. When I called, I got ahold of the right person. However, the customer service is a pain because everybody seems to outsource their customer service away from here. When they outsource it, it seems like everybody's reading off a script. When I'm a customer, I don't wanna hear, "I'm sorry, Mr. **. I apologize for the inconvenience." The question is can you fix my problem? A couple of people were like that when I called American Home Shield. I would hang up, call back, get somebody, and it would go somewhere else.

Everybody says it's worth it and it has been worth it. I love that if they can't fix the product, they'll replace whatever it is.

Most recently, I had an electric claim and the contractor was supposed to call me but I ended up having to call the contractor. Then, when I called the contractor, they were inflexible with their time and the rep was kind of rude. I was prompted to call AHS back and when AHS called them back, they could never get them back on the phone to cancel. AHS tried to email them but there was no response. The AHS rep canceled it and found another contractor. The second contractor was perfect.

There had to be something wrong with the GE product because this happened. I was cooking and I heard a pop and I saw it. I even called GE and they told me that sometimes, it happens. The person said that’s just how the policy is and it’s something that I did. He said AHS’s policy wants them to just say no. And I don't like that. I was pissed off with that. I had canceled AHS once before and tried another company out. And I wound up going back to them because the other company was a little bit more expensive. But sometimes you get what you pay for because I was not happy with AHS this time.

The customer service rep wasn't able to help me at first. I literally had to run around before I got help. I told AHS I was about to cancel this service because I don't want this other company coming to my house anymore and they told me I can't pick and choose. This is not the first, second, or third time they came here and lied. My neighbor had the same problem with them. One time, the contractor lied and said that I refused to let them fix something. It was because they told me that I had to take my washing machine, and put it in the garage before they fixed it because they couldn't fix it where it was. But AHS was able to send Majestic. The techs came and fixed it right where it was at. Majestic has come a couple of times and they always do a phenomenal job. They do what they’re supposed to do.

I got tossed back and forth between several service providers, their processes are inefficient, their policies are archaic, and their customer service is deplorable.

To be honest, speaking with their customer service is annoying and exasperating. Spent hours (no exaggeration) on the phone and online chat to try and resolve my issues. Endless wait time to speak to someone, then they give you the runaround, lie, and easily put you back in the queue to wait for more hours. Let me start by saying that I've had American Home Shield for 6-7 years since my wife and I originally purchased our house in 2016. Until 7/30/2023 I loved them, I thought their response was great, they were always fair in dealing with me, and I never had an issue with customer service. Then, on 7/30/2023 I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company and it finally ended today.

My water heater went out on 7/30, I went online to complete a service request for repairs. Shortly thereafter after a plumber was assigned, he came out and diagnosed the issue. I don't want to get into the gory details of the situation in this review except to say, the plumber that was assigned was rude to start, then after visiting my home was confrontational with me on the phone and hung up on an AHS customer service agent while I was on the phone with that customer service agent trying to get another contractor assigned (I was never rude to this individual despite his demeanor towards me because, frankly, I needed a hot water heater). This is where the fun started, not really. The customer service agent was shocked and told me that another contractor would be assigned and she would call me back once that was completed - never heard back.

For the next week to week and a half I fought with AHS's terrible customer service department to get a different plumber assigned and despite the fact that I cited personal safety concerns, and also mentioned that this company had a 1.8 star rating on Google reviews for the same type of behavior - AHS would not switch. You're reading that correctly, I cited personal safety concerns and provided evidence that this individual had exhibited the same behavior to at least a dozen other AHS clients (based on the Google reviews) and they still would not switch to another vendor.

I even tried asking the AHS customer service manager (once I did finally get a call back) what liability he thought AHS was signing up for based on my experience and the Google reviews with this individual coming back to my house after he'd already gotten confrontational with me if AHS wouldn't switch vendors, because that is what they were recommending use that vendor or take a Cash in Lieu (CIL) and use a vendor of my choice.

The customer service manager reassured me that they vet all of their contractors very thoroughly and that this contractor would not be assigned to any more of my service requests, but that once a contractor was assigned it could not be switched. After that I did a Cash In Lieu for the replacement part that the assigned contractor diagnosed as the issue and called another plumber I'd worked with through AHS in the past to come and fix the issue. That plumber ordered the part, came to my house to fix it, and determined that the original plumber misdiagnosed the problem. My water heater had water leaking in it and needed to be replaced. Since we'd been nearly 1.5 weeks without hot water at this point, I said replace it I'll try to get AHS to do whatever they're going to do from here, I just pay for it.

Without going into even more detail, my water heater was replaced on 8/10 for about 2500 bucks. I still went back and forth with AHS to get some type of Cash In Lieu for the replacement and finally got traction on it yesterday. So, today they offered me $428 for the tank and do you know who supplied the estimate that they used to arrive at that number...The original plumber that got confrontational with me that I tried to have replaced. I'm not making that up, does anyone else see an issue there.

If someone from AHS reads this post, I am not looking for a difference in your decision on what amount was chosen to be reimbursed to me, this isn't about the money, if you read this and decide to do that - fine. I am a security professional that works in the cyber and sometimes physical security space and this situation violates everything I know about the report of a potential concern like I was reporting. What I am asking for is that AHS have a policy in place to vet their vendors, a 1.8 star rating on Google (out of 5) when you search by the companies' name with over 20 reviews in a market the size of mine is not vetting.

Second, AHS should have a policy in place, that if they have a customer that is citing personal safety concerns, more is done related to that complaint than what was done in my case(which was nothing), or any of the other cases referenced by their potential customers on those Google reviews. From what I've been told, no one has investigated this situation, or reached out to me for more details on just how confrontational this individual was. I called over 5 times and I couldn't even get AHS to put a note to the plumber to stop trying to contact me, even after one of their customer service agents was hung up on. This isn't awesome. I'm not asking for anything else except that future customers be spared the terrible experience I endured. Not to mention, is this how you treat long term customers?

My son had American Home Shield on his house and he referred me to them. I've been with the home warranty for over a year. They cover most of my appliances. When the coolant of my air conditioner wasn't working and wasn't blowing cold air, I told American Home Shield about this. Techs came and it was the second time they've been there. They came earlier in the spring and did some work on the unit. These people were fine. They wanted to replace the unit but I told them to put more coolant in. It's been working fine. That was what they did back in April and there were issues with the system.

They don't pay for services because of "fine print," they don't let you cancel, and they still charge your account even if you cancel. Cancelling is a handful phone transfers where you are literally begging each rep to cancel your account. I had to take my credit card number off my account, after I was advised it's cancelled, and good thing I did because they still tried to charge it after that.

We placed a service for our AC unit that went out on 8-1-2023 and we are still without AC. They keep telling us they don't have a servicer in our area to work on our unit. How can they sell a warranty if they can't provide the service. If this saves one person to not have to go through what we are.

We never heard from a contractor but AHS charged us with the service fee. This was refunded. So we cancelled the contract. I was told we would get a refund minus an administrative fee. This was the information I received on 2 different phone calls. Today I was told that is not the case. We do not live in an urban setting which I'm sure limits access to contractors. But our dissatisfaction goes much further than that. Since then we have used Angi!!

    Resolved.

    Original Review: Sept. 13, 2023

I began having A/C issues in late May, 2023. Called AHS, technician was sent out. Spent a whole 20 minutes. Said I may have a freon leak. Put in 2lbs of freon then left. 2 days later I had to call back, A/C not cooling. AHS sent out another company technician, a week later. This one said the same thing, put in 2lbs of freon said that if the problem persists I have a freon leak. Call back if A/C stops cooling. I explained that's what happened before. He said that was all he could do. 2 days later, A/C stopped cooling. Called AHS, Company called me and set up appt. for the following Monday, this was Wednesday. Took off Monday so I could be home. Called company at 4PM. They said, "Oh, sorry we forgot to call you. We won't be able to make it today!" Said they might be able to make it between 1p and 6p next day. I went ahead and called a service company and paid out of pocket. They diagnosed a freon leak in the coils ($4,700.00 repair).

Next day when AHS technician showed up I told them what company I paid for diagnosed. He said they would get with AHS and order part. 3 days go by, never heard a word from AHS. I finally started calling, having to wait on hold for hours, never able to talk to anyone I could understand. After a week I was finally informed that I would have uncovered charges of $2,700.00 and that the part was on order and was expected to arrive on July 13, over a week away. July 13 came and went (middle of 105 degree weather every day for 65 days), no call. I called company, they had not heard from AHS. I called AHS and waited on hold for over 2 hours. They said company had part. This went on for over a week. Then I was told they didn't know where part was.

I am now into 5th week without A/C in the middle of summer. I couldn't take it anymore so I hired my own company and agreed to pay out of pocket. Called AHS and told them I wanted to cash out option instead. Part alone was $2,700.00 (evaporator coil). Guess what AHS paid me?? "$399.00" I ended up being out of pocket $4,600.00. THIS IS A TERRIBLE COMPANY. Oh, by the way, I had been a customer for 11 years - 3 different homes, and this is how I was treated!! DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!!

Poor customer service, lack of reputable, reliable contractors are the my biggest issues. I have been a customer for over 10 years. At one time, I had 2 warranty plans. However, I recently cancelled one and am on the verge of cancelling the other. Bottom line, this past February, my furnace went out. I paid $4318 out of pocket to get it replaced. As a customer, I did everything required. Put in service request and got a contractor assigned. However, it was a contractor that I had previously asked to be placed on my "do not assign list" due to past experiences with him. Had to give AHS another 24 hrs to find another contractor. Could not find one within a 75 mile range. Absolutely insane, considering I stay in NY.

Fast forward 24hrs, I get approval for outside authorization for diagnosis. My contractor came and determined that the furnace had to be replaced because parts were no longer made for that furnace brand. So 4318$ cost. Diagnosis forwarded to authorization dept, they requested second opinion. Guess who they redispatched, the contractor that was on my "Do not send list". Once again, I call customer service and voice my opinión. No help. Have to wait another 24-48 hours for this contractor to call me. On the second day, I contact him. He is hesitant about scheduling an appointment citing the potential for snow. He gives me a date/ time. 48 hrs later. I call Customer service again after I noticed he didn't update the dispatch with the "appointment" time. Here I am 5 days with no heat and this contractor is acting sketchy. I canceled the dispatch and cited my reason for doing so.

Fast forward, 2 days later, after the dispatch has been cancelled, unprofessional, an hour late, parked in the main street not driveway, with no tools. Needless to say, I called the other company to order and install my furnace and within 3 days it was resolved. I called and cancelled that AHS plan citing all the issues that I have had with the contractors and customer service. Lastly, I filed a claim to attempt reimbursement for furnace. Of course, it was denied. The claims dept stated I didn't have authorization for repair. That is true. However, how could I get approval for repair in a timely manner with all the red tape (policies) that AHS has. Nearly impossible, but that's what they want. They want the customer to give up and pay out of pocket, so that they can save money by denying the claim. Once again, another company that puts customer service last, and profits first.

Nobody takes any action, only false promises and excuses. They are waiting for their contractor's Diagnosis report since four contractors have been assigned for this task so far, their contractors do not respond to them or answer their calls, and their team has zero Authority to bypass their process, I have been washing clothes by hand and drying on furniture for 2 months, and they still tell me daily "rest assure, that we are doing our best and a representative will call you tomorrow."

They still charge me monthly for this claim upfront but they don't mind the claim has not been solved for months! Last time their supervisor hung up on my call (terrible training and customer experience). Yesterday, the representative informed me that after 9 weeks of follow-up, they failed to obtain a diagnosis report from the 4th contractor. Now, we will start all over again with contractor #5 who will be assigned to my case next week. Is this a joke? Why do I have to suffer for AHS' failure to do their work?

Original Review: I have had an open claim for my dryer and washer machine with Home Shield since mid-July, They have failed to solve the problem, their contractors' options are extremely limited, the contractors do not respond to them with the diagnosis and they can't move ahead because the protocols and process are so slow. Updated on 12/09/2923: This is an update from my original post in September. My Mom, who is a senior citizen has been without a working fridge since August 15th. I have been in contact with Stacy ** at AHS since September when I first posted in Consumer Affairs. She offered $1900 in October to get a new fridge for my Mom (I have the email). Instead AHS continued to send parts and repairmen. Now it is December, 4 months with no working fridge!! Finally, AHS has decided to replace the fridge and has lowered the amount (over the phone) to $1289?!?! Why is my elderly Mother being punished for AHS poor decisions? This is unacceptable.

Original: I talked my Mom into purchasing AHS over a year ago to "have a sense of security when her appliances fail". Then her fridge failed.... a month ago. The very next day after she called AHS, a repair man was sent (which comes with a $100 charge). The two stars is for the initial quick response. Unfortunately, my Mom was told by the repair man that he could not fix her fridge. The type of repair she needs, his company doesn't do. He said AHS would either have her get a new fridge or send a different type of fridge repairer. That was August 16th... since then crickets. Today is September 11th.

My Mom has called AHS and been told that the new repair company would contact her in "2 days" 4 times and still no one has come!! My Mom feels scammed and I feel like and accessory for talking her into their insurance. If AHS cannot find someone to repair the appliance, her contract states that they will replace her fridge. Every time she calls she is just told to wait another 2 days for the repair man that is never coming. I bought her a small second fridge and put it in her laundry room so she could have food. August & September AHS has left a senior citizen without a fridge. It's terrible.

My experience with American Home Shield is very terrible. It looks like they just want to keep collecting our money and they don't want to cover anything when we need them. My LG refrigerator (6 years old) stop working and it is more than 2 weeks it is still not fixed. They sent California Appliance Repair (worst repair company, has only one star rating) and the guy told me that it looks like it is compressor issue but he said he doesn't work on Compressors (and he is not sure), the guy didn't check any pressure or anything.

California Appliance (worst repair company) sent the report to AHS that it is compressor issue and it is covered under manufacturer's warranty. So AHS advised me to call LG and I called LG and they said yes only compressor is covered (but not the labor and anything else). LG authorized technician came and he told me that I need compressor + evaporator, and only compressor is covered (but the labor and evaporator is not covered by LG). I called AHS and told them how should I proceed because only one part (compressor) is covered and not the evaporator and labor. AHS said because California Appliance Repair (worst repair company) has submitted a report and as per them everything is covered under manufacturer warranty so AHS can't cover anything.

I called many times explain them and asked them to call themselves LG and find out what is covered and what is not covered, also I have the estimate from LG authorized technician which explains what is needed and what is covered and what is not covered.. but AHS don't wanna call LG and they don't want to look at LG authorized vendor's estimate and keep saying it is covered under manufacturer's warranty as per California Appliance repair.. AHS wasted my first two weeks and kept me without refrigerator by keep saying we will fix it and we are working .. we will call back .. but never call back, every time I had to call or chat.. very poor customer service.

The reason I joined back with American Home Shield was I was offered lower monthly rate. But it misrepresented as far as the commercial. “If we can't fix it, we'll replace it.” I’ve been dealing with this issue with them for over a month. Nothing accomplished. My air condition is not working. American Home Shield hasn't done anything to help me. They just give me a runaround. “Okay. So, another 48 days.” For example, regarding my air conditioning. They sent out four people, Air Squad, Ultra Heating, 5 Star Home Service, Doctor Cool. Nothing was accomplished.

Air Squad called me yesterday. First, they sent an email. They would like pay me off. They would give me $1,000, and I would get anybody to come and work. I did not accept that offer. What I accepted was whoever they recommended to come out to my house, which was Air Squad, I would be happy to pay them 1,920 for a refrigerant. They were supposed to order a part from United Refrigerant. However, Air Squad called me yesterday and told me that they could not get the part. I called United Refrigerant and spoke with the gentleman. He said, “Yes. We do have part. We'll have to order. It will be here by Friday.” When I called AHS and explained that, they gave me a runaround. I'm so frustrated with it.

There's a furnace and air conditioning up in the attic. One of their licensed people that was went up to the attic. They did something to it. AHS refused because they said it was an existing condition. How could that be? I am a 62-year-old. I don't go up there. They said the upstairs unit has ductwork, vent and condenser line damage. So, if I use it, there would be carbon monoxide poisoning. So, I can't do anything. Somebody went up there and did all those damages. The air condition worked a month ago until it broke. I don't know what else to do. It’s beyond them to treat a human being like that.

My air conditioning system went out for my upstairs unit. I called American Home Shield and they sent out a repairman. I had done this twice and this was the same issue I had. Initially, I didn't call up. I had a repairman come out to fix the problem. He came out and it turns out that the initial repair guy replaced a capacitor and it worked for about a week and then it started having problems again. When I called American Home Shield up to come out to send out a repairman under my warranty plan, the repairman found that there was some kind of valve or something with Freon. There was a little stem that went into it to keep the Freon in. He had to tighten that up to seal the unit before he could test it.

He said that he had found these findings before and they can only speculate but it was loose and it shouldn't have been loose. It's not a whole Freon unless it's tight. The speculation on my part with that information was that the repair guy who came over initially created another problem for me that had a slow leak. It wouldn't show up until after he was gone. I would typically give them a recall but not this time because the nature of it caused me to be suspicious.

I asked for a second opinion and I was already using the warranty program. The reason I called these other people up was because I got a maintenance warranty already, where I pay them so much and they come out and do a service for me to keep my air conditioning serviced. This was recommended. But I'm not gonna use this company anymore. It was probably just that employee but that was bad from a business standpoint. I'm glad I called out. The tech gave me an explanation of what was going on and what he had to do.

My Freon went out and we were continuing to run the unit and this caused the compressor to go all the way bad. It just froze up. It took some time to get the unit in. Fortunately, I have some window air units to use upstairs. The tech got it in and put a brand-new compressor there. This was another repairman who came out. He was very thorough about explaining to me what was going on with the new unit and that it matched my upstairs. He explained all that. If you cut it down too low, he explained that you will make the unit freeze up. The lines freeze up and we'll have to call them out again. You just work the unit too hard. He gave us information about how to keep our unit running. We like it cold, but not that cold.

All in all, it was a great experience. I had two different people that American Home Shield sent over that I'm satisfied with. I've been covered with them for about a year or two. My daughters also had this coverage. Things in the house are gonna happen and their experiences caused me to give American Home Shield a shot. Get this. You have nothing to lose. You're good.

I've always liked them but if you had something, usually, it would take a couple of weeks before somebody would be out. I had something wrong with my Jacuzzi bathtub. The contractor called me immediately and then I even got a contact with them, which was very good. It was great. They sent a text. American Home Shield sends a text, too. They let me know the tech was on his way and I could track where he was. The time he got here was to the tee. The tech knew exactly what was wrong immediately, and ordered the part. Then he came out the next week and fixed it. I've recommended AHS to friends. I just wish the cost was a little lower. I'm paying double what I started out with.

My AC wasn't cooling properly so I made a claim. We had the hurricane, so it took a while for someone to come out. They called me and rescheduled for a different date. The tech was here on time last week and he completed the job. The AC is fine now. American Home Shield has been fine for the last two years. I hardly ever get to customer service as I do everything online. If I call, it takes forever to get them on the phone. I also had an experience years ago where American Home Shield's vendor came in for something simple like a capacitor is bad on an AC. A guy came and was trying to sell me a whole new AC and said that it wasn't covered by American Home Shield. This happened twice. The other thing is the price for the warranty is too high. They keep raising it all the time.

American Home Shield's price was right, but I may drop them now because they almost doubled their price. It went from 400 to 800. On the new bill, it went from 100 copay to 125, so I'm not happy with that. Other than that, I've had to submit a few claims and they were very good. They got good contractors. I had mostly all electrical problems. First thing was the stove. That was bad. Then after that, there was an electrical problem with the lights not coming on. The electrician went over everything in the wiring and found that a few things were miswired. So, somebody that didn't know what they were doing was in there and hooked the wrong wire to the wrong place. The electrician fixed it, and then we had another electrical problem with a ground fault interrupt. The electrician was great. He knew everything. We got along great and had a good time.

I just had a very horrible experience with American Home Shield and I have since changed warranty companies. I've always had the same appliance person from Valley Pro Appliance. He's professional and he appreciates that I ask for him. My double oven didn't work for two weeks. I asked him, "Are you taking AHS calls?” And he said, “Absolutely, Barbara, and especially for you." I called AHS 22 different times and their reps would say, “He's not taking calls.” And I'm like, "Well, I just spoke to him. And he's taking calls." With AHS the contractor is random and I get whoever they pick. He also told me that he had gotten three AHS calls already that week. I'm a single woman and I live alone. I don't want somebody that I have never heard of coming into my home.

When I finally got the gentleman from Valley Pro two weeks later, he fixed the issue in three minutes. I cook for people for a living and I was without my double oven for two weeks. A home warranty company shouldn't raise your blood pressure and it shouldn't be stressful. AHS advertises on TV like they're the best thing since sliced bread. But they don't seem to care if a customer is happy or not happy.

Also, I cannot understand the people that they have answering the phone. They have to ask four times, "What are your appliances?” and I repeat and repeat. I have two accounts in my name with AHS 'cause I take care of my sister's place too. I have an outstanding order so I can't cancel my warranty yet. But I canceled my sister's way in advance before they were gonna take the money out of my account. Lo and behold, they took the money so I had to get back on the phone and tell them to credit my account. AHS's customer service is horrible. and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Once my outstanding work order gets fixed, I'll also be changing over to a new company that I'm already paying for.

The guy that came out told me that I needed 5 pounds of Freon on air conditioning and 1,200 right upfront. But I told him to forget it. So, I had a friend who works in air conditioning. He pulled that out. Everything works out great. He put two gallons of Freon. He charged me with $100, then it's over. It's working great. Instead of just on my side, 2,500, and then the Home Shield have to pay another hundreds of dollars. Then I say, “I need reimbursement.” They told me I'm not going to be reimbursed for that. But he just made up that thing to make money, which is wrong. He shouldn't do that at all.

The contractor came in to unclog my tub, which the tech did an excellent job. It was a baby rag down in there. He got that out. Everything was good. The guy did an excellent job. So, I was happy with that. But it is hard because I can't pick out my contractors. They're all American Home Shield's contractors. And it makes me feel when I'm getting a service, I'm not getting a total service because they have limits on what they would be able to approve. Not only did I have the plumbing, but I also have the central air unit being looked at.

The first appointment was supposed to be Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00. They switched it to 10:00 to 1:00. At 11:00 at night, we got a text that said they would switch it again to 1:00 to 4:00. That got me beside myself. The tech came out and I showed them what the issue was and I recorded it on my phone so he knew that he saw it. They ordered the parts and he said, "When the parts come in, we'll give you a call to set up the appointment to come put it in." But my warranty company didn't tell me that I would pay $225 out of pocket for a new bracket. So, I'm paying for a new bracket and for them to install it, which I find that very hard to believe that they only paid for the parts and they would not pay for him to do the job to put on the bracket.

So, I paid 225 out of pocket plus another $75 that I had to pay for them to have the people come out and look at it. So, that's 325 on the parts and labor that I should have not paid. But when you use what you have to use and not what you wanna use, there's only one way. I pay monthly for my service and if my service goes good and nothing's reported in a year, they're making money. But when I have an issue, like I just had, I expect when I pay extra besides my monthly payment that my warranty company would pick up what they're supposed to pick up. This was a little sour taste.

I'm still with them because I haven't had time to find a new one. And that's something the wife doesn't like. I'm a certified welder. I build bridges and power plants and I know how to build a bracket. I find it very hard to believe that a bracket would run me $225. So, that made me skeptical. What made me more skeptical is they sent my home warranty a bill for $325 and sent me a bill for $225. So, either the part cost $100 and the labor is 225. But all in all, it's still a lack of communication. And I'm used to the way this country and business operates because everybody's for that green paper. And somewhere down the line, the consumer gets lost because everybody tries to keep up with the Joneses and because of COVID and they're not doing well. So, they gotta make money how they can, but the consumer is still suffering.

When I got the invoice yesterday, I called home warranty right away. They couldn't give me an answer. All the gentleman told me was, "We got a bill and the bill was for 325. And we're paying for the parts, but they said there's a bracket that you gotta pay for." He didn't even understand why they got a bill for 325 and I got one for 225. So, that made me feel like, "Maybe he doesn't know what the hell is going on and he's just there reading off a promo or reading off paperwork that he got to tell me." And it's just the system.

I didn't have time to deal with some of the stuff that my mom would say were broken and thought it would be easier to pay $100 and spend the day. I got American Home Shield and have had two really bad experiences. One of them was for my stove. The man that came out did not speak English and I had to use Microsoft Translator so that he could read. I didn't get a professional opinion. That was two years ago.

The other bad experience was I had was for my air conditioning unit. I was in New York for two months and when I came back, my air conditioning unit died. I asked for somebody to come and take a look at it. A young tech was here and didn't look a day over 25. That doesn't mean experience isn't there. It's just there was no confidence. He was here less than five minutes, didn't even take apart the air conditioning and said, "You had a power surge." He left and I called the company like three times to see, "Okay. Why did he say a power surge?" They never called me back. I asked for a second opinion and I still got billed for the $100 for that.

Other that those two worst experience, I've had a lot of good contractors. For the garbage disposal, they were great. For the refrigerator, one was good and one was bad. My ice maker died. I live in Texas and I really wanted some ice. Someone came out and told me, "There's nothing we can do. We can get you a new refrigerator." I didn't want to replace the refrigerator because mine is countered up. I have an old house and my kitchen is big counter space-wise. But the space for the refrigerator itself is small so I can't have one of those nice 38-inches, two-feet deep refrigerator. There's no room for it. It needs to be a counter depth. It's so highly specialized and those kinds of refrigerators are not made a lot. My refrigerator might cost 3,000 versus a larger refrigerator costing 2,000. It sounded counter intuitive.

I told my mother, "Mom, we can deal without the ice maker. We'll just keep the refrigerator and I'll buy ice." I bought a freezer out in the garage. Whenever we want ice, I'll just bring it in. That was how we managed it. I found another contractor that came out and looked at my refrigerator when it stopped working altogether. He gave me a brand-new refrigerator. The first guy didn't do his due diligence.

having a home warranty, I like the convenience of just calling somebody and having somebody show up. The inconvenience was is that I didn't really know who it was coming out. Sometimes they weren't customer-friendly or they weren't here. They weren't here to really advocate for repairing my refrigerator. The one guy could have done total sales and said, "Oh, well, your stove is broken, but we can offer you to repair it or replace it." They didn't even care. They just came in, "Okay," took a look and left. They just came on behalf of American Home Shield, got their $100 and were outta here. They were not working on the warranty company's behalf and they were not working on my behalf either. They didn't help me nor the company. They just got $100 from me and whatever commission. I got nothing in the end. I've been satisfied a couple of times. But what about the other times? There was inconsistency in service.

I had a dishwasher issue and someone came out the next day and fixed it. Recently, the air conditioning wasn't coming on. I submitted another claim with AHS and someone from Thermal Tech came out. He was super kind and extremely knowledgeable. It took him about an hour to diagnose the issue and he had to replace a motor inside there. He had to order the part and it took five days to get it.

The AC got fixed last week then I got an email asking if I had been contacted by the contractor. I clicked yes and it thanked me. But once I did that, I got the same email three times in a row. I know the HVAC people communicate with American Home Shield but I'm a little confused because I got a text today that said American Home Shield service is processing and they'll contact me with a determination of coverage. So their automation system is maybe behind. Other than that, so far, AHS has been quick with their service and their price is reasonable. Plus, their website is pretty straightforward and easy to use.

I had my washing machine worked on a couple of times, and it went well. It was scheduled quickly, and the provider that came out was really good. It was resolved as quickly as they could. Then I had to replace my washing machine, so I had a little bit out-of-pocket on that. American Home Shield covered most of the value of the unit. But when you include taxes and haul-away and hoses, it ended up being a little bit more. The biggest benefit of having American Home Shield for me is finding contractors who can take care of the issue. But it's a long hold time to try and get ahold of anybody in American Home Shield, so that was always my problem. Also, the price of my service has increased several times.

After about three weeks, they said, "But we don't have anybody that can fix it. You'll have to get your own person to do that if it's okay to do that." The pool pump is pretty important. You have to keep the water moving or it ruins your pool. We found someone to fix it and American Home Shield said that they also needed to call them. So they called and answered the questions. That happened in June and to this day, we still have not been reimbursed for the $650 that it cost us.

I've called American Home Shield three different times and they kept saying that it was in some approval department. I told them that we needed an answer and if they're gonna pay it or not but I can't get an answer. But when we had a claim on a hot water heater, they took care of that. Normally, American Home Shield is very efficient, and I don't know why I can't get an answer from them.

The contractor does a nice work. And they did a good job. Cooling Bros was wonderful. They replaced the ac. Inside and out. It took a few weeks. In the 110-degree weather here in Texas, it was the only one. But fortunately, for we had different options for air conditioning. I understand the process takes a while. The units weren't available locally, so they had to order them. But it's done, and it's working great. We're happy with AHS. Get it. American Home Shield covered the Moen disposal but I was charged 195 and another 125 for having the first people come in, which is a lot of money. And I’m curious because the same machine in Home Depot costs $119. I could have gone there and got the disposal, and put it in for maybe another 100 and that would have been the end of it. It is frustrating because I'm not rich and I’m 88 years old. The gentleman was very good and it was not his fault, I just don't know what's going on. I live in an older home so there's a sense of comfort knowing that AHS is just a call away. I recommend it to everybody because stuff can go whack at any time. Recently, my air went out. I went upstairs and the fan was going, but there was no cool air coming out and the temperature was 99 degrees. They got someone scheduled and the tech was really knowledgeable. He washed my system off, put a little Freon in, and went on his way. When I got home, I was expecting a very refrigerated house, but it was not. So, I freaked out again.

I called and AHS put a work order in for the tech to come back. He came back two days later and he figured out that the fan motor had died. He replaced that and we're all good to go. Every time I've called AHS, I've had a good experience. Having the warranty is easy and stress-free.

The tech came in, checked out the AC, put a piece on it in the basement, wasn't there for 10 minutes, and pretty much left. He said he fixed it but the very next day, it was doing the same thing that it was doing. He came today, took the water hose and washed it off, and then he left. He did not do a thorough check on it the first time because if he did, then why did he come back today? The little plastic piece was broken in the basement and he put another piece on there. I questioned that because of the way he put it on, but he left.

I submitted this claim to AHS on the phone and they took the call, but they gave me the name of the contractor and that was pretty much it. When I tried to call the company at first, it appeared that they were foreigners and their rep was saying that she couldn't give me any information. But when I called her right back to tell them that the AC wasn't working and try to have them do the repair again, she said they would send somebody out. That was Thursday of last week and I was expressing to them the urgency there. But it didn't matter.

I had a claim for my refrigerator as well and the tech who came out also didn't spend enough time researching the problem. He was in a hurry, too. He looked at it, broke something, and I told him that wasn't like that. Then, he was taking it apart and I told him not to do that. I told him that he was going to damage it if he kept doing what he was doing. Then, he said that he didn't know what he was doing and I wish he told me that because I wouldn't have let him touch it. He said he had done the best that he could do but he wasn't able to fix it.

Aside from that, I have to wait a long time to get service from AHS. When I told them that I had someone in my home that was ill because my husband has COPD and asked if there was there any way they could get to me sooner, they told me I had to wait until they get a technician. The lady that answered the phone was somewhat nasty so I called her back and told her that I was filing a claim and I didn't appreciate her tone. But I just left it alone because the lady said that she could not schedule the service I needed.

The same thing happened with my claim for the refrigerator. I told the rep that I was about to lose at least $800 to $1,500 worth of food and asked if the tech could come sooner or could they get me another company. But he told me that once the call goes out and it goes out to a company, then it's on that company to come back. And it's American Home Shield's policy to send the same person back. But if they don't know what they're doing, why would they send them back? That made no sense. I also asked the AHS rep to call the company and have them send somebody who was more competent, but he said he couldn't make a call to the company. I talked to them on Thursday, pleaded with them on Friday, and they were off on the weekend. And even though it was a holiday, I tried to get them on Monday and the rep said he was sorry, but someone would be out.

Then, the tech was charging me for what he did but I told him that I was not paying him. And when I asked him if he was paid by American Home Shield, he hesitated. I also told him that the thing was ticking and it sounded like the compressor was going out. In the end, he did something but it was a temporary fix. American Home Shield's reps also don't know what they're doing sometimes. My cousin had a problem with the furnace and the techs came out four times on her, then the fifth time they said that it could not be repaired. They also said they were only going to pay X amount of dollars.
