The request works fine. What happens after the request depends. We get some good contractors and some bad ones. We had a claim for a leaky kitchen faucet. A contractor came out in response to the service request. Most kitchen faucets are cartridges. But this young fellow stripped the threads on a high-end faucet. It took four visits and we had to get our own contractor because everyone they sent was incompetent and couldn't fix it. It was a nightmare getting reimbursed. That was one horrible experience.

We just had a claim for a furnace. AHS is very rigid in their policies. It's black and white. I said, "We're out of heat for two weeks" and they promptly quoted paragraph seven G of the contract that says, "We're not responsible for delays..." You call in their call center, and if you wanna talk to a supervisor, it's not possible. They don't use high-end companies. The companies that are advertised the most in a lot of metropolitan areas as being top-notch plumbing won't use AHS and they won't reimburse you if you use them.

I've had American Home Shield for about over 10 years. But I had to let it go because I wasn't making money. Then I got it back and I've told so many people about it because I love it. The customer service guy was alright. But I hate that everything is overseas. You can't understand what they're saying. They talk so fast. I had to slow him down a couple of times. I was telling him what the problem was and he said, "I don't see that." But he eventually found what he needed to find to help me. He did it right away.

Discount Contractors was fantastic. I had some damage to my house because of my hot water heater. They took out all my cabinets. When the plumber was here explaining, it was easy to understand once he showed me what the problem was. He didn't talk to me like a dummy. He sat there and explained everything. He said, "There's another one that's cracked." I just bought those the day before another contractor put them in. This plumber replaced that on his own.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. We've been a customer of theirs for almost 20 years. They always answer my questions quickly. For my heater that was broken, it was the circuit board that drives the motherboard. The contractor diagnosed it on Friday and repaired it on Monday. My cost if I'd had it done would have been over $1,000. But it only cost me 100 bucks. When I started with them, it was $50 for a service call. Last year, it was $75. This year, it's $100. But if I called the company myself, it would have cost me 129 for one company and 179 for another for them to come out, and there are no parts in that.

They replaced the dishwasher and a washing machine. They've done heater and air conditioner repairs. However, when your heater or refrigerator's down, it may take two days for a technician to get out to you. Often, they have to order parts, so sometimes the repair may take two weeks. Sometimes, it's as long as a week in the summer when the air conditioner goes out. On air conditioners, there is an extra charge if the freon was lost or if it's a certain age of freon. If you have two refrigerators, they only cover one. I had a Bosch dishwasher and if I wanted to replace the Bosch dishwasher, I would have to pay the difference between what they thought it was worth and what it would cost. It had been $1,000 to replace the Bosch dishwasher. They gave me the slightly upgraded one from Whirlpool.

I use American Home Shield periodically for repairs at the house. The contractors are respectful. Most of them have little booties for their shoes. Some have asked me if I wanted them to put on a mask. Recently, we had a leak in a toilet and we couldn't tell if it was broken or if there was a moisture problem at the bathroom below it. A contractor came and inspected the toilet. They didn't have the right parts to finish what they were doing so they came back and fixed the toilet. The secondary issues are not covered, but the main issue was handled. If they weren't able to determine that the toilet was leaking, they would have cut open the sheetrock below it. Now, we still have some moisture damage to the sheetrock below, which was most likely caused by the toilet that they fixed.

Sometimes people are very helpful and thorough, but other times they're going around the question. When it was time for me to renew, I had to go through a lot of different people and escalate because one of the complimentary services wasn't honored. They finally did but it was painful and it looks like some things that were on my initial plan have come off. Also, our service fee went up from $75 to $100. We're able to opt into a different plan, but we lost certain things and wanted to make sure that we still have a certain level of service.

There are some things I wish that were included in the coverage, but the process is straightforward. In some ways, their online portal is very easy because you can just click into the scope of work that you need done. But it is a lot more difficult to figure out what the exclusions are. It should be a little bit easier to figure out for the cost that we're paying. Their website is a little bit disjointed. It doesn't like to work on certain browsers as well. I wish they would revamp it. But overall, American Home Shield has saved us a lot of trouble on things that are minor but could still be costly.

Family A/C Service was very good. Our air conditioner had to have a capacitor replaced and they were able to get that done. With American Home Shield, I like the fact that I don't have to worry about major outlay of money when something breaks. We just pay every month and know that it's gonna be covered. But I was not as happy with All South, the previous contractor. When Family came in, they found a part that had been taken off the main shut-off switch for the breaker for that particular air conditioning. We've got two units in this house. They said that each air conditioner is supposed to have their own shut-off breaker. That one had been removed and bypassed. American Home Shield said that if we were to ever put the house on the market, we would have to have that part replaced again. That didn't make me happy hearing that.

In the beginning, American Home Shield was great. I had no problem with obtaining services. But throughout the years, it's changed a lot where you can't even talk to anybody in the United States if you need assistance with your claim. You're talking to somebody in another country where there is language barrier. They make it very difficult now. It's garbage. They make every excuse not to pay out on your claim. That has been within the last couple of years. Everybody that they send for repair is not somebody local. They'll show up but won't do the job. They'll say, "We need to put in for approval," then you don't hear from them. If it is approved, then they can't get the parts. They're quick to tell you no without diagnosing the proper work. Sometimes I need more than one option but they make it hard for me to get another contractor to come out and look at the problem for a second opinion. It's been horrible. I'm considering canceling them.

I made a claim for the water heater that wasn't producing hot water. We did a video call and they took pictures. But they have not shown up yet. They told me that the video call happens first then they make a recommendation to American Home Shield and American Home Shield approves or denies. Once it's approved, the parts are ordered then they come to install the new water heater. The video call was on Friday. The approval came on Saturday. On Monday, I paid for the expenses not covered by the policy. She told me that she would notify American Home Shield. It's my understanding American Home Shield received the notification. But this is where it falls apart for me. Some people say the service provider orders the part. Some people say American Home Shield orders the part. But nobody seems to know who orders the part. I don't know if the part has been ordered. Nobody else can tell me that.

Water was pouring out of the water heater in my garage. I did the claim on American Home Shield’s app and it was very easy to use. The repairman was excellent. He came in on Monday, saw the problem and also realized that my husband should have turned the power off for the water heater. He turned it off then told me he was gonna try to get the company to move quickly to get me a new water heater so we didn't have to take cold showers. When he came back to bring the water heater on Thursday, I was way on the other side of town, but he waited until I got home. But I had used American Home Shield for my pump to heat my Jacuzzi that went out. They didn't cover that one so I was a little upset about it. I still didn't understand it ‘cause I have the silver package because I knew I had a pool with a Jacuzzi on it.

I called American Home Shield when my water heater started leaking. The contractor explained everything that they were going to do, that they would notify me when they were on the way. When the technician was on his way, he sent a picture of himself with a resume so I would know exactly who was at the door when he got here. He was very informative. He agreed with me that it was a bad water tank and that it would be covered. He did his assessment and told me that there would be an extra charge over what the home warranty covered because they had to do a lot of stuff to bring it up to code. They changed all of the connections. He had to make several trips to a store because they didn't provide him with all the stuff they needed. But that was not a problem. He did his job and explained everything that he was doing. I'm very pleased with him.

So, I ended up calling the number and the lady said she didn't know why that was happening. She pulled me right up and scheduled it. I was happy. The techs offered to come the very next day, but they couldn't because I had to work. I wasn't going to be here. But they came a day after that. It was set up pretty fast. However, their price goes up every year. No one's happy about that. They also used to cover my water softener, but they don't cover water softeners anymore. I'm also not thrilled with the website. It's not user-friendly.

I did a furnace tune-up and cleaning. The website of AHS is very informative. It gives you descriptions of what you need done and it's easy to navigate. It took a couple of days before I heard from someone. But the tech was courteous and informative. I told him that I had a problem with the smell of gas and he looked into it and he told me what the issue was. I submitted another work ticket to American Home Shield for the smell of gas. It's fixed now. AHS provided me the service that I requested and the tech was very accommodating to what I needed to get done. The warranty is very good. However, I am a veteran and I signed up for the free package and I was supposed to get the services refunded. I have yet to figure out how to get the refund for the service. The monthly maintenance pay is also very good. But sometimes, the call itself was a little bit high in my opinion for the tune-up for the job.

When I moved in, the stove wasn't working. The burners were electric, but they weren’t turning on. They sent out somebody to look at the stove. He couldn't fix it because it was electrical. So he set up the electrical. They came out in two days. My appointment was from 12:00 to 5:00, and they were already here by 1 p.m. Then the tech found out the issue. The issue was that the circuit's voltage was low. So he had to switch out the circuit, and then it started working fine. AHS is great and the techs come in a timely manner and do what they have to do.

Our tub and a few of the sinks in our home were backing up, so we knew that that was a plumbing issue. We put in a report over the phone with American Home Shield and it went well. The rep was very polite, and it took about two days for someone for come out. First, the company gave me a later date, then they told me somebody canceled and gave me an earlier date, which was even better. They were in and out and they were good.

When submitting service requests, people have to be very thorough with each item that they're having a problem with, or else the $100 that they pay will only address that one thing they said. If it's a plumbing issue, people should check everything that could possibly have a plumbing issue so they don't have to call back to make another $100 call. I could have said I'm having a plumbing issue with the tub, and so then they wouldn't have addressed my toilets and my sinks. Another thing is, I had to wait almost three months to get my cash refund. When people get in a car accident and total their car, they need another car. With American Home Shield, they wanted to give me $100 for a $2,000 refrigerator. Where do people do that at?

They also cleaned up inside the unit a bit, then they patched a hole.

I was very impressed compared to the last time I had someone come out. That was for the air conditioning unit and I could tell the people that came out back then were more worried about trying to upsell me. American Home Shield (AHS) supplied a contract they were not willing to uphold. Charged me a premium of $35 above regular price with notes attached regarding "customer wants three additional pool equipment warrantied". This was a transfer from their sister company One Guard. Told One Guard would not transfer if my three specific pool pumps were not covered (Pool, cleaning, negative edge) as they were covered with them. They (One Guard) got back with me and stated they would cover with a premium. So for the past six months been paying $128.99 on a contract with intention of those pumps being covered. Tried to file a claim on cleaning pump. AHS stated not covered. 10 hours of phone calls later and various departments they stated that although the notes are there with the contract, those pumps are excluded.

When asked why I would pay a premium for items not covered they stated other things were covered. Which are pool & spa items I do not have. This contract from them should of never been offered if they intended not to cover. I asked for the past money back (premium) they said no. I asked for the contract to be changed to reflect only the one pump that I have that they do cover they said no. So I have been paying additional monies for equipment that would never be covered. This contract was arranged under the pretense of those coverages between the two sister companies. I made it very clear I would not go with AHS if those pumps would not be covered as they were with One Guard.

Went back to One Guard. They stated they were specific with them when they negotiated the exception. AHS refused to understand that it is unethical and wrong to charge a customer a premium for specific items when they had no intention of covering those items. The additional cost over a year for the three additional pumps is over $600. The contract states that additional coverage includes “Pool and Built in Spa Equipment” which is for the three additional pumps I wanted covered. But they are claiming it does not meet the criteria for coverage. The condition of me transferring to their sister company from One Guard to American Home Shield was that my existing covered pool equipment still be covered.

They will not give a refund for monies collected with knowledge they would not cover it. Asked for a full refund of all monies paid since contract was not entered in good faith - denied. Asked for an amended contract going forward - denied. Spoke with over 10 people in for departments and got nowhere. They actually asked me why I pay more for equipment they will not cover.

The biggest experience I have right now is over a water heater issue that I had. It took 18 days to get a new water heater and American Home Shield's first referral is a liar. On October 22, the water heater went out. It was leaking out of the bottom of it onto the floor and I could tell it was broken. I called American Home Shield, and they scheduled a plumber named DKH Plumbing to come. They came and looked at it on October 25th. I got an estimate that they would pay for the disposal of the old water heater, a new water heater, a drip pan, and something else. AHS would reimburse DKH Plumbing for approximately $1,100, and DKH Plumbing was gonna charge me an additional 1,730, which was not covered.

It seemed a lot of money to me, so I called a random local plumber named Gunter Plumbing and had the guy come over. He couldn't do the job 'cause he has no contract with AHS, but he told me that there were two things on the estimate that I didn't need. They cost $345 and $355. So, I drove up to the county's building compliance department and asked to see a plumbing inspector who does plumbing inspections on site. I brought the printed copy from DKH Plumbing, and the building inspector looked at it and said, "You don't need this. You're on a well. They're charging you this expansion pump for $345. That's only necessary when you're on city lines to keep your water from going backflow in. And you don't need this recirculation pump. It just keeps pipes from banging, but we don't require it. If people wanna fix banging pipes, you could put it on or not. It's not code."

I called AHS and they told me, "You can get a second opinion. But if you get a second opinion and it's the same thing, we're gonna charge you a service fee." I got a second opinion from Advanced Plumbing and they did not include the two things that the building inspector told me I didn't need. Advanced Plumbing came out and the new water heater was finally installed yesterday. It was $464 less than what DKH Plumbing's estimate was, but here's the aggravating part. Even though AHS gave me the name of the second plumber for the second opinion, they wouldn't pay them. AHS told me that I refused the first plumber and they kept telling me that on the phone. I said, "Either they're lying to me or they're incompetent, and you mean, I would have to go with them?"

They kept saying, "Yes. But we can cash you out and we'll give you the money and then you can go with whoever you want." That's what I did because I didn't wanna have a liar do my plumbing and be responsible for it. I paid the whole thing and then I get a check in about 10 to 14 days from AHS. That is really talking out of both sides of your mouth and the most horrible service. I'm gonna put reviews on Yelp, Google, Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, and I'm gonna slam AHS and DKH Plumbing.

And if you want, we have an option, you can pay for a second opinion.” I told them that the microwave is $200 to begin with and I already paid 100 bucks. So I was not paying another 200 bucks for someone to come and look at it. There was a back and forth and I got really upset because the same vendor, which is Astro Appliances, was not transferring the same information to Home Shield.

Home Shield sent a second opinion. The second guy was from Fort Bend Appliances. They were very, very professional, and very nice mannered. They checked it out and said, “Yeah. There's three components wrong with the microwave. And we're gonna try to find it.” They couldn't find it. So they said they have to replace it. I was okay with that and I paid the difference for a microwave. They switched it. I had no problem with the second vendor. I didn't like the first vendor. I didn't want them to come back and fix the refrigerator. But they said since they've done the order and parts, I don't have a choice. I don't like that I have to deal with people who are very rude and irresponsible, and I don't have a choice.

The first vendor came back out to fix the refrigerator. It was the same individual and was still very rude. We asked them to test the parts that he sent. But he said, “I already tested. I don't have to do that.” I'm a business owner and I've never seen anything like that. I asked them, “Is there anything we've done?” He said, “No. This is it. You don't like it? Call them.” So, I don't even wanna deal with the refrigerator. It's okay for now. It's usable. He should not be on Home Shield's vendor list because the way he talks to people is extremely rude. They should screen their vendors.

I was having problems with my DVD player. I called American Home Shield and they sent Turner out. The tech came and checked the plugs and everything where my TV is plugged in and all the stuff is plugged in. Everything was fine. He checked the breaker, and even gave me a new breaker. He said, even though that breaker tested okay, he put a new breaker in just to be on the safe side, but he could not find the problem. So, he said, “I'm not a TV repairman. I don't know if it's your TV or what. But the electrical part, the plug, and everything else seems to be fine.” I have to have the TV repaired or get a new TV or find out what's going on with the whole system. So the problem is not the electrical.

My garage door wasn't opening, so I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and fix it. I went over what was covered, and they told me that it was a covered service. The contractor didn't have the part that they needed, so they had to come back another day. It took them about 45 minutes to fix it. They were trying to get it on track and have the garage door closed completely. So they had to adjust it once they saw that it was gonna close.

When they left, we thought that the garage door was going all the way down and it did. But after they left, I noticed that there was still a space where it was not closing down. The number that they used when they first called me to set up the appointment was still on my phone. I called the number, and when the answering machine picked up, it just said to leave a message. So I wasn't sure I got the right number because they didn't identify themselves as the business. I just left my name and number, and I did not get a call back for a couple of days, so I called American Home Shield and I told them that I called the contractor and left the number, but I didn't know if I had the right number. American Home Shield apparently reached out to them, and then they called me back and said, “Hey, I heard you left a message with American Home Shield.” I told them why and they set up an appointment to come back out.

I was told that the guy would come back on Monday, which was yesterday. But then he never showed up yesterday, and he didn't call. The guys were nice but they haven't followed through. If you have a business and you're doing business with a nationwide company, you should at least have your number or your name identified on the voice message that you've got.

I had a claim for a leak and the guy that came out did the job. He did a little more than he was supposed to, but the leak was fixed. It turned out the leak was in a toilet, so he rebuilt it, and we've been very happy. There have been no leaks. It was fantastic. When our gas cooktop developed a gas leak, American Home Shield sent out approximately 12 different service guys to look at it. The final one said that there was no way to fix it and it needed to be replaced. The next week, American Home Shield sent three guys out and they replaced the gas cooktop. There was a barrier to the cooktop in the form of a piece of wood, and I am a skilled furniture maker, so I joined their team and I modified the piece of wood so that the new cooktop would fit. That cooktop was worth over $3,000. So we were really pleased that American Home Shield stepped up to the challenge of replacing that cooktop. It's worked fine ever since.

We had another problem with our refrigerator, and we had about six technicians to our house. The final one took the bull by the horn and ordered all new parts for the freezer. He came back and installed them, and it's worked fine ever since. The only thing that people should realize is that American Home Shield doesn't necessarily respond immediately. For the cooktop, it took six weeks. But they were looking at a $3,000 bill for a replacement, so I understand that.

For the refrigerator, the final part probably cost some several hundred, and the technicians who came out early were not qualified to fix the problem. That was not Home Shield’s fault. They were supposedly from the manufacturer. But we got it fixed, and they finally got a guy here who knew exactly what he was doing, ordered the parts, which took two weeks, and came back and fixed it. I've had other problems like a drain backup. The guy was here the next day and fixed it. We had a dishwasher problem and two days later, the tech came out and fixed it. The bottom line is American Home Shield is great, but don't expect them to respond the next day.

There was a button that told me to click for a claim. They were exactly the nature and type of the repair. There was a good option that I could pick.

The contractor was good. I was hoping that they would replace the faulty thing on their first visit. But I understand their policies and it is not easy to go and just spend money out of their pocket if they're not completely sure. Being frugal is part of the company's standard procedures. It took two iterations for them to fix the problem. That aside, they were friendly.

A company came out to repair our refrigerator and they're coming back out tomorrow. This is the third time they've been out with the same complaint. So we're not real happy right this minute with American Home Shield. The freezer part of the refrigerator was not freezing well, and it wasn't making ice well. When you get your ice out of the door, there’s a little flap that opens and closes, and it was stuck open. So we have a threefold problem going on. They fixed the flap, and then they had to come back out and fix the thing to keep the refrigerator cooler, but now it's not making any ice at all.

When the garbage disposal in the sink wouldn't work properly, we had a contractor come out and they said there was nothing wrong with it. But we told them to get somebody else back here. They told me that it was just old. Then they came back out and replaced it, but they had to come out two or three times to fix a problem. It's not helpful. Then they wanna charge you a deductible every time. But I told them that I was not paying another deductible. Also, it seems like a pretty high deductible to me. Overall, American Home Shield is very nice and they have good customer service. They are responsive and always send somebody out. But they just want to fix a piece of the problem and do the least amount possible. That's the way of the world, but it's frustrating as a consumer.

American Home Shield does stuff that upsets me sometimes and they get corrected later on. I told them many times the way they deal with me is not to a lot of customers because I'm not stupid. When some obstacles happen and I find difficulty in communication to find a manager, I have a problem. Also, they increased my deductible per visit and I wasn't aware about it. I said, “I need to talk to a manager or a supervisor.” “We cannot do that.” I would have to make a big fuss, do my research to get the numbers and emails to find these people. I am very loyal to AHS. And they're supposed to be very loyal to me because they have a lot of competitors that I can go to. I already got quotes from other companies like First American Home, which is significantly cheaper for the same coverage.

The recent issue was a leaking toilet. The contractor was not able to fix it at the first attempt. Within 24 hours, the same problem occurred again. And it was a recall. So, I called AHS. I told them I would not pay again. They said no. They just sent the contractor back. So, the next day, they came back and fixed the problem. And everything looks good now.

The technician that came the first time was different from the one who came the second time. The first one tried to put the blame on the failure to a different issue. He said, “Things are very old. Maybe this or that, that's what's causing. Maybe you have to replace the whole thing.” I said, “No. It has nothing to do with these. Toilets are old, that means it's cracked or something. But this has something to do with the piping. It has nothing to do with the toilet itself. I don't need to change the whole thing. The house is not old.” I have family members that have a 30-year older house than mine. So, it was irrelevant. I had better experience the second time. The second technician came and did not say anything. He figured out exactly what the problem was and fixed it. It was a complete success.

Around the last week in July, my air condition central air broke down. I was without the use of air in my house from July 26th until mid September, all summer in Florida. My house is almost 2,500 square feet. I ended up spending money for three air conditioners and six fans. My electric bill went up. American Home Shield kept lying to me, telling me that the part was shipped but it never was. First, they ordered the incorrect part. They lied and said it was shipped when the person was supposed to do the fixing, he made several trips from Ocala, Florida at the time to pick up a part that wasn't there. So, it was a back and forth thing for all those months, until finally got the part and it was fixed.

AHS never offered me a credit for anything. And they kept on taking their monthly premium as if nothing happened, and I would not get the service I'm paying for. When it was fixed, in less than two weeks, it broke again. I had to call and still had to pay that $100 before they sent out the job to whoever would fix it. I'm very disappointed. And I have to make arrangements with my electric company to pay off the bills for using all those ACs and fans to at least live in the house. I wouldn't recommend AHS to anyone.

The air condition stopped running and it turned out to be the fuse. If AHS takes my money every month on a certain time, I expect something to get fixed right away. I shouldn't have to wait a day or two for somebody to come out to look at it and another day or two to get it fixed, when there are local techs here in town, when AHS could contract with them and get them out there. Instead of saying just A-US is their only one and they get special rates, reach out to somebody local that can come out the same day and get us some air going.

The contractor just came out and looked. The tech said he would come back. He came back with a screwdriver, changed the fuse, and went inside. The ac ran for a while and it lasted eight days, and it did it again. So, I called A-US and they told me I had to call American Home Shield. I did and while on the phone, I got a message from A-US that they would come back out. So, I called that technician that was there eight days before and said, "It's doing the same thing." He came out, instead of getting out with the meter and checking what was possible to blow the fuse, he changed the capacitor. So, here it did it again. Under the 30-day warranty, I called A-US and they said, "You have to call American Home Shield." So, I did that.

AHS sent another guy from San Antonio. He got out with his meter and gauges for the Freon in a little bag. I was, "Now, that's a technician right there." He was ready. I told him what was going on. So, we went and I told him all the electricity was off for safety reasons. I put all that back on, went out there and he changed the fuse. We went outside and he looked, took his meter and put it on the wire. And I said, "I've been doing a lot of Google. It can't be just the capacitor all the time putting high voltage over to the low side and blowing a fuse. It's gotta be something out here. This stuff ain't that complicated." So, I said, "What about the meg? That's something with the windings of the compressor." And he said, "Right here, it said it's five point something. It's good. If it was 15, the compressor would be bad." I said, "Okay."

I said, "Let me tell you about that fan." I was out there picking up the sticker burrs and I heard the compressor kick in, and when I looked, I told him the fan would go side to side like Chubby Checker. It would go to the left, swing back to the right and it would work. He said, "That's not right." I said, "I'm thinking that ain't right." But the first guy said, "That's normal 'cause it's double something it was."

So, he checked it out and tried to push the capacitor in and the fan wouldn't even kick on. He said, "Yes, it's that fan." I said, "Well, that was my thinking." He pulled the disconnect out and checked something, put it back in, saw the fan do that little side dance again, and he said, "You need a new fan motor, a capacitor and a board." I checked with him today because we're gonna get rain tomorrow and he said, "They have the board in stock." That was all he said. "But I'm not able to get it today." So, I've had a good experience with the second one. We talked about if I needed another air conditioning, they finance new ones. I said, "I'm hoping it'll last until the house is paid for in four years, then I can upgrade."

A's Appliance needed to repair a microwave that burnt out and a stove that wasn't lighting right. And the oven's digital display wasn't working. The tech was great. He was a nice guy, very respectful and got everything done. He told me everything that went on. Now, the microwave is fine. The stove still doesn't light right but it is better a little bit. But the oven's digital display could not be repaired so you use a timer, or you can't tell how much time is left on there. They could have probably replaced that, but I'm not sure why they couldn't.

I've had to deal with a lot of other issues for other properties. And sometimes, American Home Shield would get it right. Sometimes, it’s just not right and you have to go through some pain to get it fixed up. And there's the cost versus how much you end up paying out of pocket to repair these things, I'm still trying to figure out if it's even worth having AHS. Sometimes things aren't covered or they cost extra, like the Freon in an air conditioner. I was gonna get hit with a bunch of money and it ended up being a part that needed to be replaced. So, I had to get a second opinion. AHS sent the second opinion and the tech was great. He fixed everything on the air conditioner. But I was about to have to pay $1,400 because of everything that was gonna be involved with replacing the air conditioner.

I've had other situations where the property where they were supposed to fix an air conditioner took over a month to get it fixed. And it was in El Paso where it's hot. My tenant was not happy about it and I had to finally get one contractor dismissed. He never showed up. I finally got another one and they went in there and repaired it. But it was a month. I was furious because I paid all the fees and you have this situation where we can't get the capacitor changed out on an air conditioner because the guys just didn't show up. They don't value the work they get from AHS or from the warranty companies because it's busy work for them. So, it was not a good situation, trying to get a refund and something out of it. It's still up in the air about recommending AHS to friends.

At this point, for the water heater, it's about one year's worth of paying AHS and it may or may not have been worth it. I've had it for 16 years and I had another house that I had it on as well that I ended up selling. So, I try to say that this is gonna be worth it because I don't have to pay these large expenses. But the large expense I was gonna have to pay, which was the air conditioner, included a large expense for the Freon and all these other fees they were trying to charge me. It was $1,000. I pay AHS so they can deal with it, not so that I can have an additional huge burden on me, which is why I'm avoiding all this.

When you get a good contractor, it’s wonderful. And when you get a bad one, it's horrible. And the red tape you have to do to get another one. The service itself and coordinating and all the stuff online to get the service order done is super easy and AHS has got that down. But every once in a while, you get that bad contractor. You get the runaround and it’s frustrating. I was calling and I was directing myself to foreign services where they have other people answering phones and I got the runaround.

One time, I went a different route on the numbering, like how you pick what department you're going to. And I got somebody that was not right. But AHS sent out another person and they fixed the air conditioner for that other property within a day or two. And it was a big difference. I could have pushed the right button the first time and got the right department.

My third night in the house I had a leak and the contractor came out. Originally, I made my claim with American Home Shield and it was too far out. I told AHS what happened, they immediately said, "Okay, we'll get somebody out." So, it was very fast. The contractor looked at it and gave me their honest feedback. I declined the repair, not because of them because Jeff was awesome. It was because it was such poor work to begin with that if he fixed it, there would be another issue somewhere else.

I'm upset with American Home Shield because I've been waiting for them to fix my downstairs pack unit since last November when I called. The young man from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas who came out last year told them that they needed to be replaced, not tried to be repaired. He said I was blessed that the thing didn't explode. The flame was burning the outside frame of the air conditioner. We were waiting on parts for a year and we went the whole winter with no heat. I called them every other month and all I could hear from American Home Shield was, “We're waiting on parts.” American Home Shield finally sent the contractor back out.

When they showed up the other day, they took it apart and when they were putting it back with the new part, it wouldn't seal. They put it back together and they said that they would be calling American Home Shield again to tell them to replace this unit. This is the first time I ever had problems with American Home Shield and this is the worst problem. I've called them several times and complained about it and asked them why they don't just replace the unit and I still feel like I'm getting a runaround. Also, I had to pay $550 for the part they put in because American Home Shield told me they didn't cover it. I complained about that because if I waited 12 months, they should absorb all the costs.

Our heater wouldn't turn off. When you push the up button, the thermostat won't go up. We were trying to get the fan to turn off and we must have hit run and left that on. So it kept the fan going. So, there was nothing wrong with the heater itself. It was the thermostat. Pacific Coast Air did a good job. The tech got the new thermostat and put it in. It took him no more than half an hour to do the whole thing.

When the air conditioner stopped working, American Home Shield had to replace it. We live in a townhouse and the air conditioner is out in our carport on the other side of our fence. These places are old and that was probably the original air conditioner that was in here when it was sold 50 years ago. Laws have changed. But it's not fair to make us pay so much for upgrades when there's nothing that we can do about either. If we don't want to pay for the upgrades, then we can't have it fixed and it can't be replaced. We paid over $1,000 in upgrades.

The people that AHS sent out didn't do a nice job either. They had us dig a ditch from our fence all the way to the back of our townhouse wall so they could put the upgrades in. They wanted it a foot across and about a foot and a half deep. And I was probably 72 or 73 then. They wanted us to put out more money to have somebody come in and dig a ditch for them to do what they had to do. We're paying all this money and there's gotta be some way so that we don't have to get hit with these big bills.

The same thing happened when the heater went out less than two months after they put the air conditioner on the heater. The little disks that were in there would not turn off and they could not replace it because it was old and they didn't make them anymore. So they had to do all the upgrades in here. This one was smaller and they had to raise the floor for it and we had to pay for that to be done. AHS needs to reevaluate how they make you pay for upgrades. Even if it was a split, you have to pay 50% for the upgrade. Even that would help older people like us who have kept them for so long.

I like the company that did the heater this time. It was also the same company that came out and put this heater in. They redid some of the work on the air conditioner to make it look neat because it was a mess in there. They fixed that too. They were very good then and they helped us. There were wires all over the place in there after this other company put my air conditioner in and they had taken their time after they put the heater in so all was nice and neat when they left. Most times, I don't have that much trouble with customer service but it has not been perfect every time. We've had our go-around. AHS was very accommodating. I got a brand-new washer and dryer last year. The old one was about 20 years old and we got rid of it. The washer made a noise so I called up the Whirlpool people and even though I was a couple of days past the warranty, they still sent out their person and didn't charge me.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has been mostly positive. I had one situation where it was a little difficult but it ended up working for me. This past weekend, the gentleman from the plumbing company that AHS uses routed everything out for me and got my sinks unclogged. He did a very detailed job. So, he took two and a half hours. He was perfect. He used bleach and I gave him dishwashing liquid and he got down on his knees and cleaned up everything. I wouldn't even be able to tell he was there.

Every year, American Home Shield’s price goes up, which I don't agree with. I have to look at my bill every renewal period, usually around April. It's about $15 for me, which is a big chunk of change. I wouldn’t mind if they would give something back to their customers. We should be able to get some coupons or some type of discounts or perks, especially being with them for as long as I've been. That's rewarding their customers for their good business for being with them for so long.

But there are extra fees that you have to pay for different things that come along with replacing your appliances. We have to pay for the pan that goes with the AC or water heater. Every once in a while, we'll get a contractor rushing through the job. But overall, the contractors have been good.

My heater was old and apparently, it had gone bad over time. So, it wasn't working. I went online and put in the claim and as soon as I input the information, it came back with a company. There have been times when it comes up with a company that I do not want at my house in particular. So, if that happens, I make a phone call and I ask for another service provider. But Service 1 Heating has been out to my house before to look at my heating and air conditioning, so I had no issue with them.

American Home Shield also sends me a text message letting me know that it's been sent out and I should be receiving a call from the company. Usually, the company that we get assigned usually contacts us within 24 hours to schedule an appointment to come out. The contractor was very communicative. They texted on a regular basis to let me know where they were and if they were gonna make it within their scheduled time frame. They were great and easy to talk to, and a very reputable company.

We had to replace our air conditioning unit two years ago and we didn't have to come out of pocket for anything. American Home Shield has been good and I’d recommend it. A couple of things have been replaced. We've had to have an electrician come out because we had a wiring issue in the bathroom. Our GFCI kept tripping in our spare bathroom and it was also tripping our master bathroom. So, I wasn't able to use my blow dryer half the time unless I went into the bathroom, reset it, and then blow-dried my hair. So, it was a simple fix, but it was just something that I was not capable of fixing myself. We also had our water heater replaced and AHS has done work on our dryer. It’s been a very worthwhile endeavor to have the service.

Usually, I would call American Home Shield if I had an issue with a contractor and complain to them. And if there was anything else such as damage done to my property, I would contact the company. And if they didn't rectify the situation, I would go to probably the Better Business Bureau or ConsumerAffairs or something like that and report them. You have to protect your stuff. Your home is a very expensive investment and luckily, we're in a good position on our tiny home.

I was pleased with everything other than when I had to have my air conditioning replaced. When my air conditioning went bad, they sent somebody out who told me that they would fix it but it would be a couple of weeks. We were in the middle of summer and it was 95 degrees. They could fix the issue temporarily but more than likely, I would have to replace Freon every year because it would be leaking out. It would be more beneficial to replace the unit but AHS wasn't gonna cover that cost. So I ended up just buying a new unit and having it put in. I work from home and I have animals. I can't deal with not having an air conditioning, especially in the middle of the summer.

Another time, my refrigerator went bad. The tech said my compressor was gone and it needed to be replaced. A couple of days later, I got another call saying that American Home Shield would send a second tech to look at it. The second tech was here 15 minutes because the unit was bad and he said it needed to be replaced. It took a week or so to get the check to get a new fridge. AHS doesn't even trust the company they use such that they're gonna send out another one to get a second opinion. All that time, I'm using a little dorm fridge just so I could have some cold stuff in the house. That left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've had some good service as well. I've had a plumbing leak and a thermostat fixed. The tech who replaced my thermostat the other day was a good kid. He was a very pleasant and personable person. He checked everything out. The little things don't seem to be an issue. But it seems that if there's anything expensive, AHS is gonna do everything they can to duct tape it together to try and get by. In the past four years, I've had a furnace, air conditioning and a refrigerator replaced and those were not covered. I didn't like the whole process.

With my first house, I had an air conditioning issue and American Home Shield saved me a lot of money. They responded quickly and the tech I had was open, honest, and fair. When I moved to my second house, I had another air conditioning issue. It took almost a week before their contractor could come out. The company AHS sent was dishonest, and disruptive. It took almost a month to get the job done. Then, it just became AHS selling me a new system. We got done with it all and I said, “I'm gonna get everything new up there in the attic." They said, "No. We only did the AC. We didn't do anything as far as the heater." I said, “I thought all that was connected. You said everything. I should have gotten an itemized bill." I did not. It just said system on the thing they delivered. When we were finished, I had some choice words with the gentleman and told Home Shield I never wanted to see those individuals again in my house.

Recently, I've had two more claims. They were relatively quick. One day was even done the next day. The tech from Superior Comfort & Heating said, “Hey, this heating system is not wired for the load that it has. You're lucky your house hasn't burned down yet. Your breaker should have already tripped but it didn't. So I'm gonna get you an electrician.” He was phenomenal and it was one of the best service interactions I've ever had. He even told me, “Hey, when the electrician makes it out there and he shows up and they don't really know what's going on, feel free to call me so that I can get them going in the right direction, they know what they need to address, so it's not a wasted service call.”

AHS uses vendors in their service providers in their network that schedule ridiculous wait times for service, i.e. 7 days for AC work in 100 degree weather, 5 days for plumbing/water work in 50 degree weather. They also will refuse to pay for services on items that are advertised as covered, i.e. work on home systems with no maintenance records. I was told I could request to be transferred to a member's resolution department to request assistance and the call center person in the Philippines refused to transfer me despite repeated requests. They sent out a service person on my refrigerator who said the compressor needed to be replaced and AHS refused to pay for it. We replaced a $60 module on the fridge and fixed it ourselves.

Don't use American Home Shield. Per their contract, they will make you wait until the vendor has not been able to service you for at least 24 to 48 "business hours" before you can be assigned another vendor so you are hostage to the horrible vendor with the terrible customer service. They will not allow to use another vendor of your choice and pay for the service yourself and request reimbursement. If they repair is too costly, they will email you a lowball a cash in lieu of service offer so they don't have to pay for advertised services. They are extremely slow communicating with customers which I am sure is deliberate so the customer gets frustrated and just pays for the repairs themselves. My family and I have had horrible experiences with AHS. Multiple members of my family have been AHS customers, they are great until you need service. We are ALL no longer customers. I have American Home Shield as a home policy when things go bad. Years prior, I had the full plan with appliances covered. When I updated all my appliances, I figured there was no need to have the full plan, so I cut the appliances off and saved myself about 20 bucks a month on the payments. I had a system policy and it only covered breakdowns in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. My appliances were not covered under that plan. It was about 40 bucks a month, and I just paid my last payment for the year on that policy. Knowing that I could have a problem with my dishwasher down the road, I renewed my policy and added the appliances back, so I'm back on the regular full plan.

I've had good dealings with American Home Shield over the years. They generally respond within one to two days and get somebody out, and for the most part, the problem gets solved. I submitted a service order on the phone and the rep was on top of everything. The repair guy came out within two days and he was really nice, but he couldn't solve the problem. He came to the conclusion that the problem wasn't my electrical at all. It was the dishwasher itself that went bad. However, he messed around with the breaker in the box and we disconnected the connection, reconnected it, and magically, a day after he left, the damn thing came back online again. I check it periodically.

I've been with American Home Shield for many years, and I'm gonna stay with them. The only downside is they keep raising the deductible. It used to be at about 50 bucks, then it went up to 100. Now, it's 125. It seems that every time I renew the plan, they add another $25 on to the copay. I get that it's just the cost of doing business in this day and age and inflation and people only renew the policy once a year. Still, I wish my pay scale would keep rate with inflation because I'm on a fixed income. I'm retired and on a pension.

The guy that recently came out from Quality Services was excellent. He was very informative and let me know every step of what he was doing and how long it was gonna take. He came for my washing machine and he couldn't fix it at first. He needed another part, so he ordered that, but that part wasn't what it was, so he ordered another part. Now my washing machine is working perfectly.

We had issues with our garage door opener. The drive system broke, so we called in a service order for that to be repaired. We filed the claim online and the website was very user-friendly and easy to navigate. We were notified who the service provider was gonna be within a couple hours after we submitted the service request, then we scheduled a time with the service provider, United Garage Doors, about four days later because we had to work a schedule that was convenient for us as well. The first time they came out was to assess what the issue was based on our service order. They diagnosed the problem and informed the American Home Shield that they needed to replace the garage door opener, then American Home Shield confirmed that it was covered under my warranty.

Once United Garage Doors got the approval, they went out and purchased a new garage door opener. They came back out about a week later, based on our schedule, and installed it. Overall, I would highly recommend American Home Shield based on their responsiveness. They're very accommodating and the contractors that they contract out are very professional. The value added for the money that we're paying for the coverage is definitely well worth it.

American Home Shield told me that it would cost $85 for a guy to come out and do the refrigerator. I said, "Oh, that's fine," but when I called back after I got back from my Boise trip, they wanted $100 for the repair. It was a two-hour window because the repair company, Schramm, was able to squeeze us in and get us done the same day. My interactions with the repair guy were easygoing. He wasn't afraid to say what he was doing as he was testing parts on the furnace. We have a lot of things in common, so we talked about them and he told me what he was diagnosing and why. American Home Shield covers a decent amount of stuff, and I'd tell people go for it if it's one of their options, but they should also look at the deductible and what's covered. They should compare their options.

I called and used the automated system for filing claims with AHS. Generally, I'm not a fan of automated systems. But it was really good and very intuitive. I didn't have any questions and I never felt confused at one point. It was very straightforward and when it came to the payment part, it came back and told me to confirm the payment information they had on file. It couldn't have been any easier.

The tech was given a time when he would come out which was between 7:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening. That was a ridiculously long amount of time to have to be home. For this claim, it was sometime around late morning when I received a text from the technician and he said he had four stops ahead of me and that he wouldn't he here until about 3:00. So, he gave me an estimate. But then he also included in the text a link that says, "Click here if you want to track your service call," and that was cool. It said there were two stops were ahead of me, then it went up a stop.

So at the end of the day, I wasn't having to take off of work. But I appreciated not only his manual text to me to let me know, but then including the link where I could go in so that I could be prepared to keep an eye out for him. We have a driveway and a parking pad in front of the house. I assumed that he'd pull up in a truck or a van, and I wanted to make sure if any other family member came by, that they left one of the lanes wide open for him. So, it worked out really well. That Sears tech was also professional and very kind. He was efficient, too. And technicians aren't always.

On two other occasions I had American Home Shield show up, for our garbage disposal and for something else. The techs who came out were both lovely as well. So, hats off to American Home Shield for vetting out different companies. I know it's a crapshoot but they employ many technicians and you never know. But I've been very lucky and I've gotten some real genuine people to come to the house.

We had a backup in our master bathroom shower drain, so I went on to Americanhomeshield.com and logged into my account. The claim submission was extremely easy. It was just a couple clicks. I identified the issue then they had somebody dispatched on it. I was provided with the name of the company, the representative that would be out there, the timeframe they were gonna come out and their contact information. The repair company came out and unclogged the shower drain so we could get water flow down there. Now, everything's good.

American Home Shield is worth the cost because of the peace of mind that if anything goes out or if I have any issues, I can get my money back quick in terms of the service they provide versus what I pay monthly. The big thing is it also reduces uncertainty with things around the house, knowing that somebody will come out and fix the issue in a prompt manner. I've had two claims, one for an AC thing and another for a plumbing issue, and the experiences have been extremely professional. The process of submitting claims is very intuitive, and I've been impressed with how quick American Home Shield gets people out and dispatched on the issue.

The washer was making a very loud noise when it was washing and when it was rinsing and spinning. We called that number that you call when submitting a claim with AHS and the process was easy. They told us that the techs were coming out the next day and they did. They had been at our house once before to work on our dryer and this time, they called to make sure that whatever time span they gave us was going to be be okay. They really worked with us, because they had to get the part and it took them a little bit to put that part in, because they had to go under the washer. But when they first came out, they told us not to worry about washing because we would still be able to wash until they get the part. It'd just be loud.

When they brought the part back, we had an emergency health issue in our family and we were in Saint Louis. They said they were going to come back on Friday and we wanted them to come in the afternoon. We told them that the techs could come any time at two o'clock and after and they said they were going to come between 3:00 and 5:00. So I figured 2:00 was ok. We got home about 1:30 and the techs got there about 2:15 and fixed the washer.

When they said it was fixed, I asked how would we know if it was fixed because we needed to run it. They said it was running at the that moment, but we could not hear anything. And sure enough, when I looked in, it was spinning. They also told us that they didn't know if we knew when we had gotten it, but that washer had a guarantee for life. So they were really nice. The AHS warranty is pretty much worth it, but they can't always do as well as they did on the washer. Also, my mother-in-law does not have AHS, but we call the company that they use for a furnace or air conditioner problem because we are very satisfied with them, too.

The hinge that attaches to the garage door had broken. I called up AHS and it was easy to get a rep. Sometimes I think their system wants you to go online, in which I just stay on the phone until a representative comes on because I don't do that computer stuff. So, it wasn't hard. I called them on a Thursday and the techs were there the next day.

But I have had problems in the past with one AC person and I told AHS never to send him out to my home again because he was just looking to make money outside of the services of American Home Shield. This guy went up into my attic and the first thing he said was that I needed new ducts. So, I did a second opinion, which is what the American Home Shield does and if the second opinion person finds something totally different from the first person coming out, you don't have to repay that service fee. When the second person came out, which was their real professional person who was more of an expert than the first serviceperson that they sent out, he found something totally different and he fixed my AC with no problem with the ducts. He said my ducts were fine.

So, the first guy that came out was just looking for opportunity and he told me specifically that American Home Shield was not going to pay for these ducts. he also said that it was going to cost around $4,000. I was livid and he told me to think about it, then he gave me a business card and said to call him when I decide what I want to do. But I wasn't calling him back. AHS said they couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't be out of the system or be up for a service. But I told them to put a note in the system. I also told them that when he went up in my attic, he left the door down and open, left my stairwell thing down, and didn't push it back up. He went outside to check the AC on the outside and left my slide door unlocked. So, for things that I couldn't see that he was repairing, I wouldn't be able to trust him.

I also had my AC breaker serviced and one guy said that he thought I had taken it apart. But I told him that I didn't take it apart. He said he was blaming me for taking that little wall thing off but I told him that I didn't tell him that I did that. So, AHs sent a second opinion person and all they did was flip a switch on the AC and it came back on. So, he was out trying to make extra money Sometimes I don't know if American Home Shield doesn't pay them what they feel that they need to have, so they're going to try to flip the switch on the customer and think that, especially being a female, maybe you're not knowledgeable enough to know better. But other than that, I only had two issues that I had to have two different second opinions on with American Home Shield. They always sent somebody out and I never had to pay an additional service fee. I also told my sister that they're a pretty good company.

The refrigerator ice maker was freezing up and the tech took it apart, took all the ice out, which we had done too, but there was another part in there that he knew what to do and he got it unfrozen. He didn't have to really do anything and he didn't need any part. So, he did it right, then, he came back out. We've used American Home Shield for the last 30 years of houses we've owned and we always like it. It's interesting that it's gone up to $125 now every time that somebody comes out. But we've never had a problem. If we'd buy a house from somebody else and they'd give us another company, then the next year, we'd go right back to American Home Shield. So, it was easy process.

Now, we've got a microwave problem. The tech came, looked at it, and ordered the part. That has not come yet and it's been a couple of weeks. Also, the oven isn't closing correctly because the light stays on. So, there's another problem that we've got to get them out here for. The blower on the AC kept cutting on and off. I made a claim using the web page of AHS and it was not bad. I then got an email and a text from American Home Shield and from the repair people saying they had been assigned and they were coming out. The contractor I got was efficient. When the guy came out, he diagnosed it within 30 minutes or so, said what it was, then told me he was going to go off and try to find the part. Two days later, I was told that they got an opening and asked if they come out and fix my unit. I agreed and made sure it was covered by American Home Shield. They said yes and when the guy came out, he was done in less than an hour. He finished his work, verified that it worked, and went on his way.

In the past, my experience with AHs has been everything but this. They either drag their feet about whether or not it's covered or they say that it's covered, but there's minimal coverage. For example, my hot water heater went out and after a week, they told me they were only going to cover $200. I asked them to show me anywhere in America you could find that size water heater for 200 bucks, much less put it in. They gave me some story and I told them I was totally dissatisfied. They basically said take it or leave it, so I just took it, but I was not satisfied at all.

I would tell my friends to proceed with caution with AHS because it's hit or miss with them. My mother has a rental house in New Orleans and the tenants have been without AC for weeks at a time because American Home Shield and the people they sent out either misdiagnosed stuff or they didn't cover much or they didn't reply. So, she's had to compensate her tenants. Some people tell me, including some repair people not from AHS, that I'd be better off saving that money instead of paying for American Home Shield every month. And I've been trying to keep track of what stuff are covered and so far, I'm not convinced I'm going to keep the warranty.

I would submit my claims to AHS over the phone and it would take time to get somebody on the phone. Usually, I would be waiting for 15 minutes and sometimes, I would be pushing the wrong prompt. Also, I couldn't understand the language of the person I spoke to and I got the woman I had that problem with twice already. But otherwise, she did her job.

Recently, I had three issues. I was having trouble with the air conditioner, then I had something wrong with my tub, and I had something wrong with my washing machine. They said they could only do one of claim because the tech has to be from the same company. But the HVAC company wouldn't take care of the washer or bathtub. So, I would have to get the plumber for the bathtub and an appliance company for the washer. And if I would get all three done in one day, I would have to spend $375 because each time someone comes out from American Home Shield, it's $125.

I ended up doing my HVAC because I wanted to make sure I had heat for this winter time. The tech who came out was very nice and diagnoses it quickly. But he was not able to fix the issue and I'm still figuring out what to do. It has to do with pipes in the wall and the tech said that they couldn't touch the pipes in the wall. They said I had to put an appointment with my homeowner's association, so it was something that it was out of his hand. At some point in time, I will get that done with my HOA.

Currently, I'm very happy with the services that I've received from American Home Shield. The pricing has went up quite a bit, but otherwise, when I place the service call, my service is always prompt and I get professional people out to take care of my issues. Usually, when I call, they always get someone out to me within 48 hours of me making the call. The service techs always take care of me.

I had to have a refrigerator replaced and it was a smooth process. The latest claim was good. I had some leaks going on and Bst Plumbing came in and took care of them for me. They were very professional, knowledgeable, and told me about things that I could do to keep problems from arising when the winter weather gets. They were very polite and explained several things about plumbing that I didn't know that would help me keep my home in a top position. The overall coverage is good. Every issue that I had has been resolved. AHS is worth keeping.

Whenever I need a service, it is happening very quickly. American Home Shield makes things very easy. Online, you order and you just write in what you need, and all the teams so far who have arrived for repairs are good. I have done the ice maker problem once, and the service fixed it. Another time, it was for a shredder. They also fixed it. Now, I got another appointment towards the end of this month for tuning up the heater. I'm sure that they will come and do it in a timely manner as well. Thus far, I know that if something serious happens, AHS will cover the whole cost. When they send their people for fixing, it's reasonable, especially for plumbing and electricity. When you call someone to your home to fix, it's open-ended but with them, you know that it's quite fixed.

My refrigerator wasn't getting cold. I loved the claim submission process. It was very easy and it didn't take long to get it done. For the most part, the companies that they contract with have been really good. The lady who came out with DeWitt's Appliance Repair was great. She replaced a compressor piece for me. With AHS, every service request that I have put in has been responded to in a very timely manner. If the issue isn't fixed, they have been really great when I let them know. Customer service has been so helpful and they contact the contractor while I was on the phone to make sure they get back out here.

A gentleman came to do the job and was very good. He changed the part that was required. There was some other issue but he didn't think that needed to be changed at this time. They were working fine. He just took care of what was the current problem.

The only thing with American Home Shield is they increased their rate and they don't cover some stuff like the water softener.

I initially reached out to American Home Shield for my refrigerator that was leaking water, and they sent out another company to try and fix it. I hate that company. They did not get it fixed. They came out a few times and it was still leaking water. So I called American Home Shield back and I said, "Please, I do not wanna use this particular vendor anymore. I can't stand them. They're inept. Is there another company that you can bring out here to fix this fridge? I'm tired of it leaking water?" So the rep said, "Yes, we can. But we have to charge you another $75 service fee" which was annoying because the first people didn't fix it.

I just wanted to get my fridge fixed and I didn't wanna deal with those initial people they gave me. So I said, "Okay, fine. Whatever, I'll just pay the $75." The technician who came the second time was friendly. I had told him that the first people that came to fix it knew it was the water valve but it hadn't been resolved. So he looked and verified that it was the water valve. He ordered the part. He seemed knowledgeable.

I had AHS at the previous house I had, and our real estate agent had asked the seller to throw in a year's warranty when we bought the house. We said, "Oh, okay. Well, it looks like they'll fix anything." All we have to do is pay the little service fee and we won't get hit with really high charges. With the fridge, if I didn't have the warranty, they might have said, "Oh, it's gonna be $800 to fix it." "What, $800? I wasn't expecting that."

When we moved to this new house, having the home warranty gave us some assurance that all we had to do is pay the monthly fee and then the $75 service call, and then everything else should be covered under the warranty. So, it gave us peace of mind. A lot of the issues I've had have been around my refrigerator. American Home Shield insists on using a particular vendor that I can't stand. I've had other issues with the fridge before and they sent that particular vendor ou, and it's taken months for them to fix that separate issue with the fridge. I've been really put off by them keeping this particular vendor on their roster. If I end up having another issue with my refrigerator, I will ask specifically for a particular vendor in the future. I'm hoping I don't have any more fridge issues. But if I do, I'll tell them, "Please, don't send out the one you insist on sending out. No, I don't want that one. Please send out Whirlpool. Thank you very much."

The American Home Shield website is very friendly, easy to use, and navigate. My most recent claim to them was for my microwave and refrigerator. You can click appliance and they group them together so you know which ones you can put on the same claim. If you have the model number, you insert that too. If not, put you don't know it. I already have my information saved as far as the credit card. The process is fairly simple.

My tech from Acme was fantastic. He walked through the process. I like to know what's going on with the appliance. He actually showed me what he was doing and what had to be done. He was very knowledgeable about the appliance before he even started. After I described what the issue was, he pretty much knew what the problem was and fixed it in 45 minutes. He knew what he was doing and that made a big difference. He fixed the refrigerator that day.

The microwave, on the other hand, had to be replaced. I had a choice but they had already identified a model that was very similar to mine. You could go on the website and choose one from the website. Some of them will cost you nothing and some will be additional. You can choose the gift card for whatever value they determine that it is worth and go buy the appliance yourself or you can buy it and get reimbursed. That was pretty fast because I ordered a unit last week and it's coming today. This microwave has some more features than the one that I have. There was one that I could have upgraded to. The outside would have looked exactly like mine but it didn't even have as many features. The replacement this time is gonna be a little bit better than the one I currently have.

So for seven years, I've been purchasing the lower-level Home Shield. If I would have known, I would have been paying for the higher package. They replaced the hot water heater. However, the city requires different codes. So, that was not covered and I was not aware that that would not be covered. So, I had to come out of pocket for $1,300.

The sensor went bad on my air conditioner. I made a claim to American Home Shield online. The website was easy to use. I was told that the contractor had been assigned, and I was given the telephone number and the name of the company. The company took care of me. The issue calls to evacuate the system and evacuate the Freon, and they wanted a couple of dollars to fill the Freon back up. So, I told them that the sensor was fine. We're gonna leave it right there because that's too much money to spend to replace the Freon. American Home Shield, in my contract, only covers the first $10 of the Freon. So, I just told them we'll call that later. If we have a problem later, then I will have to spend the money but right now, I'm up and running.

With AHS, I like that I can make one phone call and I'm connected to a contractor that's going to do the job without calling all around. Plus, they cover the labor and parts. What I don't like is when I don't get the coverage that I pay for and because I've been with them for a while, I have had situations where I had to fight to get the coverage. But in the last six years, I have been good with American Home Shield. It's a good program to have.

I made a phone call to submit a plumbing claim. I spoke to folks down there in the Philippines and they were nice people. But they don't have any connection to the business itself, so I was trying to relay some information that I could not get because I was calling too early for Central Time. Then, I was speaking with someone that was representing the company, but they couldn't do anything for me. That was a little bit of an issue for me but I got over it pretty easily. I garnered the information that I needed and we made the appointment right then and there and I was perfectly content.

High Priority showed up on time. They sent an extremely courteous, mannered, and clean plumber. His name is Brandon. He changed out stuff that needed to be changed out and I'm savvy enough to know that he wasn't doing things just to do them. I couldn't have been happier. With AHS, I like the idea that I feel like I got this covered as opposed to running down to Home Depot and doing a little DIY on the internet.

Recently, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for a hot water heater. There was water on the floor. It was weird because there was a whole area that was standing in water. So, I called AHS and a really nice repairman came out. It had stopped leaking. So I thought, “Well, that's weird.” When the water was all on the floor, I did not check the hot water heater to try to find out where it was leaking from. He couldn't find the leak. The water had dried up. He did what he needed to do. There was nothing to do. Then a week later, it was really leaking. So, I called my son who works for a sprinkler system company. He said, "Sometimes if there are sediments in the bottom of a hot water heater, they can shift when the water's being heated," and that is what happened to mine.

It wasn't like it healed itself. It's just that they shifted and caused it not to leak again. But this time, it was really leaking. They came back out and saw the rust area and what was going on. So, they replaced the hot water heater. The AHS contractors were wonderful. They were very professional, very easy to talk to and they knew exactly what they were looking for. I paid extra to do some plumbing. Some of the pipes had to be replaced.

Having the AHS plan took a lot of worry away. I'm a widow and my daughter bought me the plan so it would take some of the stress off of me, and I'm planning on continuing it because it did. I have to make decisions now, and AHS really helped me. AHS was very beneficial to me because I didn't have to look through and call somebody to try to find out who should I call. I just called American Home Shield and they took care of it.

The contractors they hire don't seem to always be the best. The last contractor that came out was okay. But the times before that, I was not happy. When the contractor showed up to fix my heater, he said it would be about a week and a half till I could get the part. The contractor themselves sent me a separate bill before they even came back and fixed the unit, trying to say that I owed them $350 because they were gonna be making all these lines and doing all this stuff. I said, "Dude, no, you didn't. I have two invoices right here saying that you did none of that work." So the chick told me that she was gonna put a lien on my house. She can try, but I used to work warranty work. So I know how these companies work. I wrote a review on them and posted the two invoices. They never put a lien on my house. I never heard from them again. They were shoddy contractors.

Overall, American Home Shield is fine. They're fast and effective. I go online, I fill out my claim, and usually, within a couple of hours, I have a contractor calling me, telling me that this is when they can come through. All of my things have gotten fixed. More of my problems aren't with AHS, it was the contractor. When I was having those issues with the contractor for my heater, I called AHS and they told me, "Well, it sounds like we got your unit fixed. So, this is a problem between you and the contractor, not us."

I had a dryer that went out and I ended up getting a new one. I also had a couple of little plumbing issues and plumbing companies came here and did an assessment. If I have to pay out of pocket, I just do it. It’s 125 up front. If they can repair it, they will. But if not, they'll tell me how much I would have to pay. The contractors have been great. I used to be with Colonial and I found out there was a difference in the way they do things versus American Home Shield. They send somebody out to your home, give you an assessment and then, try to reach out for prices out of the sky instead of the price for the job that needs to be done. It would have been $700 for the repair but I ended up paying 2,000 some dollars out of pocket.

With American Home Shield, when the contractor came out to check the heat pump or the heat furnace, it was just for the services to make sure your filters were changed. I explained to the technician that I was having a problem with the thermostat and something kept tripping the relay box down the basement. He was honest and said that he was just here to do the service for the maintenance. But he told me that I could call back American Home Shield and they would send somebody out here to give an assessment or troubleshoot. So I did that and I paid another 125 fee. The company contacted me and told me that they would be out tomorrow for that issue.

I also had to get a water faucet replaced in front of the house. The technician looked at it and said I needed to replace it with another faucet but my warranty company does not cover that. He said it would be 650 to replace it and I accepted it. So, I got them scheduled to come out to replace that faucet. But they had to get the parts first. This is a good situation. I don't feel like I'm getting too much scammed with the service. So I'm satisfied.

The clothes wouldn't spin out and she just knocked the agitator off the track.

I had a leak in my coils in my HVAC unit and after I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I had an appointment within the day. It was quick. I submitted it on a Friday and got the confirmation of an appointment on Saturday for Monday. I have another company that does my HVAC so they were the ones who diagnosed it. Then, the technician from Legum's came out, confirmed it, and put in a sealant solution within the refrigerant. We haven't had problems since that we know of because it is a very slow leak. I would recommend American Home Shield for the base warranty for your house stuff. That was the first time I ever had to use them and it went flawlessly. I got everything covered and it's reasonably priced. I have a lot of expensive electronics that it covers.

I called American Home Shield in the morning and their people were here by 2 o'clock in the afternoon. They were the nicest. They didn't just go, "Oh, yeah. You need a new hot water heater." They asked me to come and showed me a couple of buttons had flipped. Also, the heater had thrown off the switch in my fuse box. They pushed the buttons and showed me what happened. They also showed my granddaughter what we needed to look at next time. I'm so happy. AHS took a weight off my shoulders. My experience with American Home Shield is good except for their delay in getting a technician or repair personnel out versus getting a product replaced in a timely manner. I've been waiting for a refrigerator for three weeks now. They're going to replace it. Once they diagnosed the problem, they said they had a backlog of repairs. But getting a new refrigerator takes longer because they usually schedule two weeks out in order for delivery to happen. Working with the contractors has been great as well as being able to see the status of your work order. The open access online is good.

I've had American Home Shield for quite a while. The customer service can be a little slow, but it's nice to have the appliances under warranty and they're good about most things. For example, the air conditioner I had wasn't working properly, so they came out and they fixed that. They had a limit on how much of the coolant they would pay for, and that was quite a bit lower than what the actual coolant price was, so the repair was still very expensive. However, they still covered the rest of the parts and the labor, so it was worth it. I also had a problem with my refrigerator, and they came and replaced it. I was pleased. When I told them that I had a problem with my garage door opener, they set up a service call. The service guy came and looked at it, then he came back a couple days later and fixed it. He was very friendly.

If something breaks, AHS is gonna fix it. A lot of times I go with their first recommendation. But if I find that it's gonna be two weeks before that person could come, sometimes I'll call back to American Home Shield and say, "Let's check somebody else." I like that about AHS. I called them saying I'm not waiting that long. I went for a replacement and that option only gave me up to $300 which cannot buy me anything like the microwave I had.

I had to go to the store with less money. It wasn't a good experience. Every time I use the microwave I got, I don't like it. Also, the techs don't come out anymore. They do an online app where I can just take a picture and scan which I don't like as well. Why am I paying them a $100 service fee when nobody knocks on my door to do anything. The ignition on my stove went out and they were gonna fix that. But then, the techs used the same thing again and asked if I could do my visual. I didn't like it. Also, the cost of AHS went up and I didn't get a notification about it. As soon as they fix my stove, I'm stopping.

One of the furnace didn't work. I couldn't get any heat in the master bedroom. The thermostat went blank. The repairman who was sent out was very professional. He texted me. When he got to my house, he rang the bell. I asked him if he had a shoe covering. He said, "I'm going to my truck and come right back," which he did. He checked it out and made sure that the thermostat worked. Before he left, he told me that within 30 days, if I still have the same problem, to just call. He will come with no charge to check it out again. I previously had American Home Shield but I was a little bit disappointed. But now, I would tell others to sign up with them. I have no regrets.

When we first started with American Home Shield, it was $35 a month. Now, it's $81. Plus, we have to pay the $100 as soon as we make the contract with a repairing person. Recently, we discovered a leak that was running down our basement wall. We called American Home Shield to send somebody to find out what the cause was. My complaint with them is they use foreign agents. I have a terrible time understanding people with any kind of accent. But other than that, the rep responded quickly and gave us a name and the telephone number of the company they were going to have check out our problem. We didn't have to do any searching to find somebody to do this.

The contractor called the day of the problem and said they would be out the next day, and they would call before they arrive, which they did. The repairman was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He found the leak. It was our garbage disposal. It ran through the floor, the cabinet, and down the wall in the basement.

We've been pleased with AHS. We renewed their service. We did a couple of appliance-related repairs and one visit for the heating system. The claims process has been very easy. I put the request in and paid the flat fee, and the person has visited and done the repair. The techs have been great. Having AHS is going to allow us to maintain things more. Small repairs cost so much. We just had the ice maker give us a problem on the refrigerator, and it was a $300 part. This service made it affordable to repair. However, recently, I had an experience that I'm not so pleased with about the heater. There's a promotion where you supposedly get a free heater inspection. When I looked at it, it wasn't really free. We have two zones so it would be an additional $100 because of the second zone, but also seems as though they're having you sign up for an additional service contract with an additional company. I was a bit turned off by that particular offer.

I love American Home Shield. I've had two incidents where I've had to have an item fixed for my home and each time was a very pleasant experience. They were timely in making appointment. The company who came out was timely as well. They were courteous and let me know that they were on their way. They seemed very honest. The first incident I had was a new dishwasher. When they came out to diagnose the problem, they found through attempting to order the part that that dishwasher and the parts were no longer available. The company had discontinued that model. American Home Shield sent me a link and allowed me to choose a dishwasher that I wanted to use to replace it. I made my selections and the dishwasher arrived. The contractor came and installed it. They didn't damage my home or break anything. The installation was perfect.

Recently, I called American Home Shield and explained another problem. My thermostat wasn't connecting to the heater. I asked for that company again, which they were able to connect me with. The issue was two-fold. There was a wire and the plastic coating had rubbed thin. It caused a short in the wire. They fixed that. There was a fuse that had blown in the system, and they replaced that. They did a wonderful job.

The repair people have come out twice, one for my air conditioner and another for my heating. With the furnace, I could hear the fan initially cut on, but after about a minute's time, the fan would cut off and I wasn't getting air blowing through the duct work. I put in a request for service through American Home Shield. The gentleman that came out this time was Caleb, and he was very professional. He immediately identified the problem, ordered the part, and it was fixed within about two business days once the part came in. Caleb determined the circuit board was faulty, so he replaced it, and now the furnace works like a champ. I've told a bunch of friends about American Home Shield, that I should have gone with them sooner had I known about it and that I'm very pleased. They're in awe, like this can't be true, but once I tell them my story, they're thinking about doing something similar.

We had a problem with the water dispenser. I called American Home Shield on the phone and it was very easy to get through to a representative. The technician who came out was a lady and she removed the part, checked on the appliance, put it back together, and made an order for the replacement part. AHS is good overall. What I like most is I know who to call. Regardless of what the problem was, I'd call the same company and I would get the service. The downside to it is the amount that they charge for the protection. You can either do a breakdown maintenance or a preventative maintenance. I usually prefer preventative maintenance to breakdown maintenance, but the cost of calling home services is $100, which I think just for preventative maintenance, it's high.

They got in touch with Kelly Brothers. American Home Shield told me that they had called Kelly Brothers and then Kelly called me and told me the man's name that was coming out. He was very informative. He told me what the problem was and how they were gonna have to do some more work on it to get it into code. They would have to replace the ceiling fan. We're still working on this. Kelly is just waiting on American Home Shield to give them permission to finish up.

I like the convenience of American Home Shield. I like knowing I have somebody to stand behind me on my home issues. We bought the house and it came with a one-year coverage. They helped with the air conditioning issue about 20 years ago. Go ahead and get this home warranty because you never know when a hot water heater is going to rust out on you. A few years before I got American Home Shield, my gas hot water heater rusted out on the bottom and that was around about 1,000 bucks.

Interaction and service were decent. But the contractor did not have the right equipment to check everything. For example, they didn't have a ladder to check the light bulbs that we have reported that were out around the parts of the home. And they said that it would be additional charges to come back out there or to have a two-man team so that they could have a ladder. But the area that they troubleshot works fine now. They did do a good job at what they were able to do. We were able to get a roofing company who looked at the roof and the gutters who changed out the light bulbs and the light works perfectly. They should be more prepared, call the customer ahead of time, and having more detailed notes, or I should be able to enter more detailed notes on American Home Shield's website about exactly what is going on.

I've had a good experience overall with American Home Shield. I've had about five or six different services. I had some lights done inside and out. I had someone here for my tub, some other appliances, my refrigerator, and the toilets. I had a guy come here in a timely manner who fixed my microwave. The service was good. He got the parts, came, looked at everything, took the part out, and walked me through everything. He told me what I needed and what was going on. He ordered the part right in front of me and then told me the estimated time that the part would come out.

The service company kept me updated as far as “Your part came in. We'll send your guy out during the schedule.” The next one, I got a text saying, “Your guy's on your way.” A few minutes after that, the tech guy called telling me what time he would be here. He got here, came on in, put it the part, tested everything, and made sure everything worked. He told me that if I had any other problems, I was to give them a call. He was really good.

Some other contractors I had are True Vine Appliance, DC Appliance, and Hopwood Electric. They were pretty good. There is also All American Light that I'm still waiting on. That's for an outstanding claim that I have. American Home Shield's customer service is pretty good for the most part. Their online stuff is good too. The only negative thing is I had some guys come out and I paid for the service but it wasn't covered under warranty. It was the same thing with my outside lights where they didn't really cover it. I had to pay extra for what was not covered. Other than that, everything is fine.

    Reviewed Nov. 8, 2023

I've made three claims with American Home Shield. One of them was a dishwasher claim that it had some hose leaks but it had caused significant damage. I had to replace the whole kitchen floor and they were not covering it. They don't cover the ancillary damage that the appliance caused, so I was unhappy with that. I thought that was included in the deal. I can't put the dishwasher back in until I have money to replace the kitchen floor. I've got the parts, but the appliance repairman said he would not reinstall it until the floor was installed correctly because if the floor is damaged, then he wouldn't put it back on top of the damaged floor.

The microwave claim went smoothly. I needed to get a microwave replaced. It was too old, so the parts were not available. What I thought was ironic was the only one that was comparable to the one that I had that they would offer for a free replacement was out of stock, so I had to buy one on my own and then they reimbursed me. So, was I 100% happy? No, because they could have replaced one for free, and this one wound up costing me out-of-pocket a little bit more than what they offered me because the one that they offered me for free was out of stock. They did reimburse me for that amount, but it still cost me more to get it myself. Then I had to get a cousin to come over and uninstall and reinstall the unit, and then I had to haul it away, whereas they would have taken care of the whole thing all at once as part of their deal if it had been available.

Then the third claim was for my kitchen sink that was leaking, and it turned out that it was not a pipe issue. The sink itself wasn't caulked so water was leaking from the countertop down underneath and that was where all the water was coming from. It wasn't coming from any of the pipes. That cost me $133, which was the fee plus tax to find out that I had to caulk my sink. So, it was a little frustrating.

They did give me a free furnace tune-up, which I was very happy about. It was great that I didn't have to pay for a furnace tune-up. So, I'm happy that they were here. The microwave wound up costing me 40 bucks out-of-pocket and some effort. It also cost me a filing fee of 130. So, it cost me about 170 to get a $450 dollar microwave. So, it was not too bad, and they will get the dishwasher repaired. They will take care of that and I just have to wait until I've got my handyman available after the first of the year to be able to do the floor at a rate that I can afford to.

All of the companies that AHS has sent out and the repair people they've sent out have been remarkable. I was very happy with the people they've sent. As far as the overall warranty, my big issue was that they don't pay for any additional damage that the appliance does. So, they paid to repair the dishwasher, but they're not paying to repair the floor, the problem the dishwasher caused. They claim that that is the responsibility of the home warranty policy, but when you're buying a home and it's in the first year, and the damage was caused by the prior owner, your insurance doesn't cover it. Also, the cost of the service seems high. The deductible is $125 plus tax. So, it's $135 a call. The deductible is higher than the value you get, because in a lot of cases, what I'm finding is the repair would be under that value, and I could have gone out and gotten somebody to do that repair at that price or less.

As far as customer service, I'm not speaking to people in the US most of the time. Other than that, their website is very easy to use. I would have thought that they would ask more questions about what the problem was before they came out. They only ask where the problem is. They don't provide a comment section for you to provide comments as to what the problem is. One of the issues I had with my dishwasher was that it started with the dishwasher and then I had the leak under the kitchen sink, and I called back to say, “I'm still leaking under the kitchen sink.” So, they sent the appliance guy back.

The appliance isn't even in there. He was a great guy. He helped me diagnose that part of my problem was my faucet was leaking. So, because he did that, I didn't file a claim with them to replace my faucet because they would replace it with the one that I had, which I didn't like when I moved in here, so I just bought a new faucet and my brother-in-law installed it for me. They sent back the appliance guy when I said there was a leak under my kitchen sink. That was kind of weird. Overall, I'm happy with the warranty still.

Last year, I had a water damage in my basement but American Home Shield did not take care of that properly because the contractor should have brought fans to dry the carpet. And because they didn't do that, I had mold in the basement and that cost me $6,000 to remove it. He just said I needed a new water heater, which I paid $3,000 to get a new one because it's not covered. And every month, 200 is deducted from my checking account. Now I have the drywall taken off, which would cost me another $10,000 to do the basement and put new carpet. If the guy that came to fix the water heater brought the fans to get it done, I wouldn't have had this $10,000 now. I am very disappointed with my experience in 2022.

Recently, something was broken and it made a noise when opening and closing the garage door. I called AHS and told them, and I paid my co-pay of $125. Lately, every time my house has an issue, there's an issue with American Home Shield doing things. I had an issue with my tub and the water cut-off valve. The contractor came out and located the issue as related to the tub engine not working, and they fixed that. But when the Whirlpool engine shut off, the cold water shut off in the other bathroom. So I assumed that both of those were connected. Then they decided what was connected. But the plumber they sent over couldn't isolate what the point was.

When they finally isolated what the point was, they said it was not covered and it was gonna cost me $575. I got a friend of mine who works in the union as a plumber. I called him over and he said that they did not diagnose my problem right. He said, "All the stuff that they was gonna do, they was gonna cut your pipes or whatever, and all you needed was a shut-off valve. I got one in my car." He came to put the shut-off valve on it and charged us $75 and that was it.

I also had issues with American Home Shield with my microwave claim. They sent over three different companies to fix my microwave and the same thing happened. They didn't fix it properly. I called back American Home Shield to tell them that the same thing started happening again, and they said I was out of the 30-day warranty because they started counting the first day that the contractor came in. They didn't count all the time that it took for the three other companies to come and take a look at it.

In the past, American Home Shield would come out and take care of my issue and that's it. But it seemed they kind of gotten to be money-hungry and money-greedy now. I've never been behind on my payment and even to the point where they started the new stuff, where they kept upping the prices. It started off with $50 and now, it's $100. They also take the $100 out of your account before you even get what you're agreeing to. It's just a mess and I'm really thinking about dropping them altogether. It's not worth it now.

The technicians that they send out are pretty professional. But some of them kind of use American Home Shield as a side hustle. Some of them even try to work a deal out for you to sort of use them. When I had the air condition folks come in, the next thing I knew, I was getting hundreds of calls from them trying to get me to get a maintenance agreement with them.

The motor in my refrigerator was really noisy and the ice was not staying frozen. I knew something was wrong. I submitted a claim online through American Home Shield. I went to the website. It said, "Submit claim". I pushed that and it walked me through what the problem was. It was easy. I received the name of the company, the phone number, a brief synopsis of who was coming, and that they would call me. The service I received from the contractors was good. The tech's supposed to be coming again this week ‘cause once he got the motor, there was another problem. So, he’s fixing that too. I like that with AHS, I don't have to worry about bills, about how much stuff is gonna cost to repair, ‘cause things break.

Having AHS is convenient. Their portal is user-friendly and easy to use. When I have a problem with the plumbing or electricity, I just check off the boxes and then I put it in a little comment if there's a space for me to type on. Usually, the contractor calls me after 24 hours and asks me for a comment. I don't have to wait for the next two weeks. They fix my issue right away.

Speaking to several people overseas to try and sell you on staying, offering to lower the price or whatever, then transfer you several more times, have your call dropped several times until apparently it's some Member Resolution department that is the only department that can actually cancel your membership, and NO, no no no, they apparently don't have a direct number, AHS wants to waste your time and put you through several bad English people who try to upsell you and magically "know how you feel", I don't know where they get these Marvel Agents with such superpowers. After wasting half a day, and repeated calls, I finally got to talk to this famed Member Resolution dept to cancel. No respect for people's time or proper customer service. Never Again!

It used to be where you couldn't get anybody to come out for at least three days once you put a claim in. Now, they're a lot faster as far as them sending somebody out.

There's a place to go to on American Home Shield's website to file a claim. Within a few minutes, I got a text message telling me that a company had been assigned to the case and that they would be contacting me shortly for appointment confirmation. I prefer talking to somebody, but it was convenient enough. Recently, I had evidence of a leak in the wall behind the refrigerator. A repairman came out and pulled the refrigerator out. Immediately, he noticed a drip coming from the valve. The valve body has several parts. One of the parts was not screwed down tight enough. It developed a leak. All it took to stop it was for him to tighten this top part down a little bit more. Then he double-checked to make sure there wasn't anything else related to the plumbing. He discovered a leak on the refrigerator, which was a separate issue. Plumbing stops at the valve. He couldn't even address tubing.

The company that we were signed up with was just nickel-and-diming us every time we needed to have something done. They didn't have proactive maintenance like American Home Shield, where you can go ahead and get someone to come out and do an overall checkup on something before you have it break down. We switched to American Home Shield and so far so good.

I had a washer that was having an issue and it needed a new motherboard. American Home Shield put that in. I had a ceiling fan that died and they had someone come out and install a new one. When I called in for the ceiling fan, they said it was not covered. I said, “Yes, it’s covered. You'll have to pull up my warranty.” They did and they said, “Yeah, it's not normally one of those things they cover.” I was the lucky one. There was also the air conditioner that died in August in Las Vegas and American Home Shield had that fixed. We've had some good times. The technicians have been great. It's always nice to have insurance. American Home Shield sends out people that they think are going to be doing the job correctly. The only thing is the price goes up every year.

American Home Shield has been great. We had an issue with our pool pump. It took way too long for them to come up with a decision because the first contractor didn't like their bid. That was at the very beginning, and we were very skeptical then. We haven't had a lot, but we've had a few things that have been handled very quickly and to our satisfaction. AHS is easy to use. If you have an issue, you call. Our first issue didn't go well but it ended up getting fixed. It's nice having that peace of mind. Our son’s air conditioner went out recently, and it cost him $12,000. We were like, “You should have bought American Home Shield.”

Recently, we had a leak that was coming through. We noticed water coming through the ceiling in the hallway. My husband went up and checked it, and the heat exchanger was leaking. Smart Choice couldn't come until Monday because we called on a Friday. Had it been pouring through, we would have been a lot more assertive and said, “No. We need somebody quicker.” They were here first thing Monday and they fixed it. The leak did cause some ceiling damage.

The tech told us American Home Shield doesn't cover that. So, it stinks that if you have a leak that’s caused by the air conditioner and then it causes ceiling damage, it won't be covered. They fixed the leak, but then we had to pay for the ceiling damage ourselves, which was over 1,000 bucks. Luckily, the claim with the air conditioner is not that big of an area. It's not gonna be that big of an expense. Still, it seems like if you have a leak and it causes damage and it's all part of the same claim, I would recommend that somehow that damage would be covered. Overall, we're happy.

Before that, I had a claim for the dryer and it took forever. The gas people were telling me there was nothing wrong with the line but the technician was saying it was the line and not the appliance. I had delays in some things and I had to go back and forth. But at the end of the day, it got resolved. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind that, at least, I have some sort of coverage just in case. You can't trust all these appliances sometimes. So far, as long as I know I have them, they're reliable.

American Home Shield has been bad over the past eight years I've been with them. The first couple of years I had them was easier and a lot better than the past few years. Mainly, the contractors they have come out to do repairs are horrible. There have been multiple times where plumbers have come out and not fix the problem. The biggest issue I've had was that my roof had a leak in it and they contracted this roofing company to come out to fix it. I paid several thousand more dollars because this roofing company told me I needed to hold backside of my roof replaced. They replaced it but did a horrible job. None of the leaks were fixed. They stepped through my roof ruining my ceiling that they never came back to fix. Even getting ahold of American Home Shield to try to make it right wasn't good. The company just ditched and dashed and nowhere to be found ever again.

American Home Shield had other roofing companies come out since then to temporarily fix it, but they need to replace my whole roof. I'm still out several thousands of dollars because of them. They did nothing to take responsibility for these companies that come out and do horrible jobs. Some of these companies that they hire to come out are an hour and a half away. A few weeks ago, I had someone come out and fix my garage door. The guy gave me a lot of attitude because he had to drive an hour and a half out here. He said, “If they're not going to cover me to come out and drive back out an hour and a half back here, I'm not coming back to fix it.” But he came back and they fixed it.

My other garage door motor went out this past couple of weeks and someone came out. I live in Hartville, Ohio. He drove from Columbus. That's two hours away. I looked them up and they have several different locations throughout the United States so I felt okay using them. I had them put all brand-new ones on and paid my payment of $100 to have them come out. They gave me a good deal on a new garage door.

Since I moved, even though my phone number is linked to my account, I still can't request services online. This home that I live in does not come up on American Home Shield's website. I have to call in every single time. It's very difficult for me to schedule anything ‘cause I have to call and wait 15 minutes to schedule an appointment with someone. When I originally started with them, my co-pay was $70 for someone to come out. Now, it's 120. I was also paying $90 a month for the warranty. Now, it’s 140 a month for this coverage. I'm thinking hard if it's even worth it because they're not helpful at all. I'm going to cancel here very soon.

American Home Shield is not a good company. The latest thing that took me over the edge was the air conditioner. I live in Florida and this was back in July when we were having those 100 to 103 days. I called on a Friday to request service. They immediately responded and said that a repairman had been assigned and that he would contact me within 24 hours, which he did. But he explained to me that he couldn't get out to repair my air conditioner or look at it until the following Friday.

I called American Home Shield back and explained to them what the guy had said. I told them I'm a kidney and heart patient. I couldn't live in the house that long without any air conditioning. They found another contractor. The only thing was this guy said he couldn't come out until Thursday. I went looking for a repair of my own and found one. I told American Home Shield, “I've got a contractor who can come out today and repair my air conditioner.” They said, “He needs to be approved. He needs to give us a call and give us his diagnosis.” The guy said he was not gonna do that. I paid him to have the air condition repaired.

When I called to cancel the order, American Home Shield asked me if it had been repaired. I told them it was repaired but I paid for it and wanted the 100 bucks that they charged me. I threatened to quit with them at that time. They refunded my money and told me about how things would be better. Unfortunately, my air conditioner had another problem. A snake crawled up in there and shorted things out. I called American Home Shield again and it was the same thing. I decided to cancel them. They told me that I couldn't cancel that day. I had to cancel on the last day of the month. When I called back to cancel them, the first guy tried to convince me. He asked me what the problem was. He offered to refund my service fee. He said I could have two months free to get me to stay. Eventually, they cancelled the policy.

I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone. The biggest problem with them is getting someone out in a timely manner. They're under the impression that as long as they've got a contractor assigned to the job, whether they repair it today or tomorrow or a week from now, they've done their part. Also, the people that you speak to are overseas. That was always a hassle because I had a hard time understanding what was being said.

The faucet broke in my kitchen. I submitted an online claim to American Home Shield. They just ask you for your name and they request information, and then you have an account established. They also assign you the contractor. Dave and Sons Plumbing was sent. They were average. They were supposed to replace my faucet with something comparable to what I had. I had a chrome colored faucet. The tech was like, “All I have is silver.” I said, “You don't have any other colors?” He only had one in his truck. My faucet broke, so I was in desperation. So, I just took whatever he had.

I would have preferred a black one. I said, “Can I have y'all come back out and put what I have, something with that color, ‘cause I like the chrome?” He said, “Well, I don't know when we'll be able to come out and do that.” So, I was at a loss. I was like, “Well, I need my faucet ‘cause it's broke. I need it done today.” They didn't have multiple colors in the truck. So, that was an inconvenience. I had to take whatever he had. That was the company's fault. That was nothing on American Home Shield, but they have different tiers at American Home Shield. It depends on the company that they send out, and you can't pick the company. They just assign you to somebody.

I've had AHS for years now. I switch it up to somebody different every now and then. I don't use them often, but it's nice to have the added coverage because you don't know when something's gonna break down. It's nice to have that convenience to pick up the phone and have somebody and come get it done within 48 hours. If I'm not satisfied with something, I'm gonna follow up with them, though. If I do have an issue, AHS typically resolves it. They'll find somebody else. I haven't had any major issues with American Home Shield. I was not happy with MaeDae's service. The technician was good. It was the company. I had to work through that company's management. They had come out to do some plumbing work because I had a diverter valve leak.

We had some parts of our refrigerator that needed to be repaired. The ice maker wasn't working at all anymore and we had issues with the door part falling apart. And a couple of trays in the fridge itself that were also falling apart. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield online as an appliance repair. But there was no good category for those other items. So, we had to make a note. We got a message saying that it was assigned to the appliance company. They called me and scheduled the next day. We did it in the evening and they called me the next morning and scheduled a time when they could come out. They were very accommodating and also very good at explaining things to me.

When they came out, the first thing he did was wrote down a bunch of model numbers, and knew they would have to order parts. So, they got the information back to AHS, and the people called back with the estimates of when the parts would be in and to let me know when possibly they could come out again. We went ahead and tentatively scheduled something. But what they need to do is the door closer hinge thing had to be replaced as well as the trays and the ice maker.

When they came back out, they had all the parts. However, the initial estimate when they were here and the next day when the company called and said, "We've requested the parts to be ordered and we expect three weeks," is what they told me, and they called me back and said that AHS tried to be as thrifty as economical as possible. So, they ordered all the parts and said it would be 8 to 10 weeks before the contractor could come back out because that's how long it would take to get the parts. It turned out it was not that long. It was about six weeks total. Everything works fine now. But read the fine print carefully because there's a lot that AHS' contract does not cover.

The reimbursement came quick because I sent AHS the invoice for what I purchased. I pay the monthly and they still charge me a fee for someone to come out. So, I'm getting ready to get rid of AHS because it doesn't make sense to go through what I did.

When I tried to turn on my heater, the air conditioning would come on instead of the heater. I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. They gave me the name of the company and a window of time that someone would be here. A tech came out and looked at it. What also happened was I got a new thermostat, and whoever put it in there didn't wire it correctly. The tech just had to rewire the thermostat so that the heater would come on or the furnace would come on. He is a lovely person. He's a very nice guy. I’ve always liked the second time he's come out to my house. He's very informative. He tells me exactly what's going on and what he has to do. He's prompt. He's always on time. He tries to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Everything is performing well. Having AHS, somebody reliable will come out and check and repair the equipment.

I signed up for a middle of the road plan with them. About 6 months later my monthly payment increased with no email and no phone call. They just decided it was time. One customer service agent stated the reason was that this is an increase everyone sees due to inflation. Another said it was so they could pay the technicians. I really think it's because they need to make money on their newer customers now.

Gardner's Plumbing came out and fixed our toilet recently. The toilet wasn't flushing correctly. They couldn't replace the part, so they replaced the whole commode. I like that AHS gets qualified service people to come out and do the work. And if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. I would recommend AHS.

The rep of AHS was very good. She followed up and had good communication. Told us who would be calling, the name of the company and about what time we would hear from them. The techs were excellent. They had to replace the pump. The AHS rep said to take pictures of what was broken and send it. I sent those pictures to her. She sent them to the contractors and found someone who could have it. They brought it with them. It was really easy and efficient. I like the wide safety net that AHS provides. There are a lot of things that fall under it. I didn't know that our swimming pool could, so I was surprised at that. It covers the heater. We've used it three times in the last year.

When I submitted a claim with AHS, it was easy. The techs that came out were good. They called to make sure it was okay to do everything that was done. They waited and then they fixed it once they got the go-ahead from AHS. Everything's working fine now. I like AHS and I like that AHS covers most of everything, from a small job that can grow into something big.
