I like American Home Shield. I would never think about switching. I called them when I had a leak and they sent a plumber out within a couple of days. He had to cut the ceiling open. The plumber said that someone would get back to me because they would fix that big hole. But I didn't hear from them in a week so I called American Home Shield and they had someone call me within hours. By that weekend, the person came on that Saturday and fixed the hole. Two months after I bought the house, I woke up and my floor was wet. I called American Home Shield and they sent a plumber out. He informed me that it was my air conditioning unit. They sent the same company. It's been the same company and I like that. They fixed the problem although I had to go with my homeowner's insurance because everything had to get ripped out.

American Home Shield is one of the worst companies I've ever worked with. If I could get my money back, I would. Almost nobody speaks good English. It's very hard. They have a script that doesn't match what the needs are. If the technician can come and fix the issue, that's fine. I had an issue with a leaky roof. They came and fixed it. The HVAC guy they've sent has been fantastic. It was for a tune-up, but it ended up that they could not do it because American Home Shield doesn't cover the kind of unit I have. Where I've had problems is around replacement. I needed a toilet replaced. I had to make four follow-up calls to get it done. They close the claim on the website. They have to close it because they're saying a technician came out to the house. But the process isn't over and because the claim is closed, no one's working on it.
They sent a dishwasher repair person to install my stove. But I've had big problems with them around some crazy shenanigans that they pulled and I had to report them to the Better Business Bureau around my stove replacement where it took over two months and over 15 calls to get my stove replaced. The second to last call resulted in me being connected with one of their customer service agents who started praying for me on the phone and said that my spirit through my cellphone would be saved by the Holy Spirit.
I did not have an oven to cook for my family for two months. It was August 7th was when I made the claim. It was October 13th when I finally got it installed and I had to find my own contractor to do it for $125. That's as much as they would offer for removal and installation. Where I am, that's not enough. They also have different information. They said it was up to 300. When I called back, they said that was not true. Each of the departments can't authorize anything. So you are transferred to another department and you have to start over again.

When my dryer wasn't heating up, a contractor replaced the heating element. The other claim was for my air conditioner. A contractor had to replace a part. American Home Shield has a bigger network than the one that I had previously. That meant that services could be given faster. The ones that they have within their network respond quickly. The only thing that I do not like about American Home Shield is that I cannot get a person when needed for questions. It's always just a machine. That is not very good for customer service. I don't like talking to a machine or leaving messages or pressing this and that. Everything seems to be just done online. Although some people like that, there are some people who still like the human touch.

I love the American Home Shield website because it's very easy to go in and select what service you need. The tenants in my Hawaii unit had a problem with the garage door. So I clicked the garage door unit opener thing on the website, and within 24 hours, somebody called me to schedule an appointment. So far, the contractors I've had to deal with at the unit have been good. They've gotten the job done. They've given me solutions. If it's not covered, they give me locations that I can get a part if I have to repair it on my own.

Most of my services are good but anything to do with plumbing or HVAC is extremely poor. It's because of the group that American Home Shield contacts. I've complained several times about how the techs don't ever show up, always reschedule, and how it takes months for anything to get fixed even when your furnace is out of service. Usually, I have to pay out of pocket for it. This happened several times and I've called and complained. American Home Shield doesn't do anything about it. I have requested them not to send that vendor out and they still do. Also, customer service is poor. They usually just delay you and you can't get service in a timely manner.

We had a claim for the refrigerator and the contractor came out and it took them a few tries to fix it, but they got it taken care of. They were professional. The first time they tried a part, it didn't work. But they reset it and that temporarily fixed the problem. Then they ordered something else. When they brought that part in, it corrected the issues. I had several issues that I contacted American Home Shield and the contractors came out and fixed the issues relatively quickly.

American Home Shield gave a presentation so I got to be really familiar with them. I file my claim online and that is pretty easy. They have a good website. When the water filter in the refrigerator wasn't working, I called the home warranty and they sent a guy over. He fixed the refrigerator and it's fine. I have a townhome and I use the home warranty up there too. American Home Shield let me put the tenant's name as the contact person on my townhome so they don't call me. They call the tenant and I like that. If there's any issue above and beyond normal, then they'll call me. I stick with my home warranty because I've never had any issues. If I get good service, I'm loyal even if I'm gonna pay a little more, which I don't with American Home Shield. I'd rather work with someone that I know will do the job than someone new for cheaper.

I wanted to go with someone else that was cheaper. Also, we're not in a position where we could take on a random $1000 cost for a plumbing issue or our air conditioner outright dying. So, having some peace of mind from having American Home Shield is a good thing. My air conditioner wasn't working well. So, I wanted to see if it might be an issue with my air conditioner going on. The contractor came out and helped me with the vent and helped me troubleshoot it. The tech determined that the air conditioning control unit, I have a Nest, one of the wires he switched it in there, and that helped it make sure that the air conditioner would turn on right away versus having a five-minute delay. And he showed me that some of our vent covers were upside down, which prevented it from cooling. He also saw that we had installed our filter wrong as well.

The technicians were responsive. But with the fridge, they got the wrong part the first time. They had to come back again. Except for that, we had no other issues. I like American Home Shield's quick response. If I request for something, they'll come within the next day. I had claims for the AC, fridge and microwave, and they were all good. But I need to call them. They charged me more when they renewed. It was some-55 and my card in my account was deducted 74.

I had a plumbing issue and it was settled very quickly. I submitted my claim to AHS by telephone and it wasn't difficult. My sister also had them and she was happy with the warranty. Having it gives me a degree of certainty as to what the cost is going to be in case I need a service and I would recommend AHS to others. I'd tell them that it's a cautionary thing like any insurance policy.

We had to replace our refrigerator one time and it took forever to do that. We ended up buying one to replace it and American Home Shield reimbursed us a little bit. It was not a good experience. The vendor was running things through American Home Shield, and they had to get an okay from them. But American Home Shield was trying to get a cheaper model. The vendor could not get it until they finally give the approval and then they fixed everything. The technicians were very nice and friendly. They seemed very knowledgeable.

I've been pretty happy with American Home Shield. I had claims for the AC, garbage disposal, and garage door. I went online to submit them. That made it easier. I can just click and click, and they take care of it. That's really convenient. I don't have to go in the Yellow Pages or look for places. They just send someone over. AHS always covered the repairs. One time with the AC, though, I had to hire someone else because the vendor wasn't competent. Everything else went fine.

The furnace went out. I originally made a claim online with AHS then I followed-up by phone. They first sent out a contractor who put a sticker on the door, but the door was open. They never came to look at the problem and they wouldn't come back. Then I went to J&J Mechanical. I dealt with them before with my air conditioner, so I wanted them to come out. The AHS rep I talked to said the computer generated the first contractor. Then she said to call back since it takes 24 hours to request a different contractor. It's been a good experience with AHS and I don't have any issue with them. Their price is a good rate and their website is easy to use.

I've only used the service once. I like it. I was on the phone with someone, the phone got disconnected, and someone called me. My AC unit wasn't working. But that happened before I got the insurance. Three months before I got the insurance, I paid someone to come out and fix it, which it had been running fine. But I just paid like $900. And to have American Home Shield, I only had to pay $125. So, that worked out great for me. The guy that they used was awesome. He provided me with an AC unit I could bring to my home. He lives in my town, and he brought me an AC unit that we could have in our home so we wouldn't be hot. He came over the next day, fixed my AC unit and picked it up.

American Home Shield and their online tools work well for us. Also, our interactions with technicians on anything we've called them for have always been good whether it was the pool or air conditioner. They also fixed the microwave, and the disposal under the sink. So, everything has always gone well. The most recent issue was something on the pool. It ended up being something dumb. The water level of the pool was lower than I thought it was and that caused an issue with the flow rate through the skimmer. So, the solution was simple and it made me feel dumb.

The upstairs temperature wasn't keeping up. The AC was just running all day long. May Heating And Air came out a couple of times for two different things. We have two AC units in the house. The workers from May are good. The same guy came out twice over the course of a year. Both times, he handled the issue. As far as submitting the claim, I reached out to American Home Shield online. Their website and booking are good, but it seems like when I get bused over to their outsourced call center, I did have a problem. My AC was broken and I had a newborn, and that took a couple weeks. I was trying to call into the 1-800 number. It isn't very good. That was an isolated instance though. I've had plenty of great experiences.
I enjoy American Home Shield. I'm a cop and a real estate broker. So by and large, I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. I've set it up with countless of my clients when they buy with me or sell with me. We've all had good experiences for the most part. The main rub is, sometimes when you need something, there's a long wait. I used them recently for a garage door opener, and the guy was out here the next morning, but it seems like with HVAC stuff in our region, sometimes it could be a couple weeks before they can come out. If you have an AC unit that's down in the summertime, it can be a big problem.
The pricing is fair. I pay 1,000 bucks a year for the service. Then I pay $100 every time somebody has to come out. Almost every time somebody has to come out, it would have cost me more than 100 if I didn't have Home Shield. When something goes down, I'm not, "Oh, crap, I got $1,300 AC issue." When something happens, I only pay $100. I've been using AHS for me and my customers for six years. I have the silver package. I have the middle-of-the-road package, and I'm good with everything it's covered up to this point.

I referred many people to American Home Shield. They respond quickly. They give the right support whenever I need it. They're ready to help me. But the third-party persons create issues sometimes. We had an issue with the toilet and one agent came and verified . He mentioned that it was broken and they cannot fix it, and they would be able to replace it with a new item. But as per my policy, AHS would not pay anything. But I requested to AHS, "Can you provide another agent to verify the product again, whether it is really broken or not?" They provided one more agent who came and verified that it was not broken and was fixable. So, they did that. I didn't pay anything. It meant AHS is very good. But the third parties who come to fix just come and say that what they saw was broken. Due to that, it was almost 15 days it got delayed.
Recently, we had an issue with the washer and dryer and I requested immediately they apply for the claim and got a new item and that new item also got delivered in my home. But whoever came and installed those items were there in that place. They did not help me to come and replace. They needed to remove the current one and install the new one. That got delayed for almost 30 days.

Over the years, American Home Shield’s service has been good and the recent claims have gone well. But it's not always feasible to repair something as opposed to replacing it and AHS is very reluctant to replace items. It's not always in the homeowner's best interest to repair items. Several years ago, my heating and air units went out in the house, and both coil units were very old. They needed to be replaced. I offered to pay the difference in the repair costs to replace them, but AHS would not do that. Instead, they searched around and found the repair parts, which led to much less energy efficiency and was more costly overall for me as a homeowner.
The other thing I've noticed is the increase in the monthly fees along with the $100 deductible. Both have increased without notice. I looked into other home warranty companies in terms of moving but at this point, it would cost more to move to other companies than it would to stay with American Home Shield because of the relationship over the years. I'm more comfortable with staying with them as opposed to starting over with someone else.

We were happy with the guy who fixed our icemaker and the guy who worked on the washer, and we ended up having to get a new one. But we weren't satisfied with the electrician. He was supposed to call and he called late one night and was not very friendly on the phone. He said he would be here between such and such time the following day and we asked if he would make a call before coming so we can be ready, and he never called. We were waiting and then, he pulled into the driveway and looked like a hippie getting out of the car.
A breaker tripped and wouldn't reset. It just kept flipping so, we didn't have power on the one that that was working on. I found another breaker before the electrician got here and replaced it. He checked and said I did a good job and that I fixed it. But other than that, I've been very happy with American Home Shield. The only thing I wasn't happy with is the price went up from what we had last year. I called and spoke to a gentleman and he credited me $75 for the year. It was better than nothing. My air conditioner wasn't cooling my house, so I called American Home Shield and the reps were good. Two years ago, it took people two weeks to come out. They were waiting on a part. This time, they came out the fastest that they can get out in Florida and did what they had to do. The repair person did his checks, told me what was wrong and took care of it. He did a good job. He also remembered coming out to my house before, and he mentioned it to me.
I changed companies because I found another place cheaper, and what I didn't like about American Home Shield is they charge an extra fee to cancel them. When I canceled, the gentleman told me I didn't have to pay that fee, then they charged me. It was a hot mess going back and forth with them, and I was irritated. They tried to tell me that I asked to stay another month and I didn't. I put down that I wanted to cancel and they charged me the next month, then the manager said, "Well, you just have to pay that. We've submitted service requests several times, and I have mixed feelings about our experience. American Home Shield wasn't as clear and upfront as they could have been about what coverage includes and doesn't. That stuff wouldn't be all that difficult to make clear with an agent, for instance, when asked, "Can you let me know what's covered and what's not covered?"
We had a refrigerator wherein the ice maker broke and at the end of the day, they said, "It would be too expensive to fix." They said we can replace the Viking refrigerator and they would give us $800 for that. Another is we had basement leaks on the interior of the house. We knew that, depending on the nature of the problem, we might not see it covered, but they told us initially that the gutter system was included. It could have been a misunderstanding, but it ended up not being covered, so we had to pay a lot of money to get the leaking problem figured out.
Even American Home Shield's printed literature could be a little more forthright. It's difficult to interpret what's exactly going to be covered and not covered in the instance of, say, water damage. That was a bummer. The other is it depends on the availability of contractors and how that all comes together. That's beyond their control. Everything else is fine. The refrigerator guy took a long time to get back to us, but the attitude was good. There was also one repair person who was really good.

Submitting a claim with AHS has been good. You do it online so it's simple. The only thing you have to do is, if you want to get a specific contractor that you used before, you have to call and you have to sit on hold and force the issue. My very most recent claim was the cooktop went bad, and that was not great. They didn't follow up well on that. The guy fixed it, but it wasn't fixed. After many phone calls to them and the contractor, I ended up getting an email that they were replacing the appliance. Out of the blue, some truck showed up with an appliance and they installed it.
This year, I used AHS six times. The disturbing part of it was, I had some hefty out-of-pocket. And one of the people that I was dealing with at American Home Shield said, “I don't understand why they didn't sell you the better grade contract where you would have had double the amount of coverage.” I said, “Yeah, now you tell me?” That lady tried to get it through, but it didn't work. She tried and she rewrote it. She tried to do some things behind the scenes so that moving forward, I would have it, but it didn't work. The policy was renewed in September and now I'm at that better threshold. It's their highest tier. And the thing that was aggravating about that was that it was only $21 a month more. If I had known that from the beginning, I would have always paid for that.
I've tried a lot of these types of companies. And if I were to recommend anybody, it would be American Home Shield. They've got the most user-friendly website. Comparing it to 10 years ago, today they have quality contractors whereas, in the beginning, they did not. Nobody wanted to work for them because they weren't willing to pay anything. Now, anybody that's walked in the door, has been a very good quality contractor.

I've been very happy with AHS. I've been with them since 2003 in different houses. And we've tried some other home warranty companies. But we came back to American Home Shield because we liked their coverage and their service better. We had a range that couldn't be repaired and they took care of that. I still had to pay 500 bucks, but it's a lot less than I knew that I would have paid to buy the model I got.
They sent a person out. The guy came and he took out the burner that wasn't working. They called me and said that they weren't able to get that part because that model wasn't being made anymore. American Home Shield said that they would just replace it since it wasn't able to be repaired. They gave me a choice of some free models. But I wanted one that was a slide-in. I wanted a specific width and a specific height. I wanted the knobs right in the front, not up on the top. I was picky and I was able to get everything I wanted with a minimal copay.
I like the peace of mind knowing that I'm not going to have to try to find someone that is reliable, and who's going to come and who’s going to do a good job. Because American Home Shield is going to send someone and if they don't do a good job, I just complain to American Home Shield. I didn't have to complain to a plumber or a contractor.

American Home Shield had two increases since I've been using them but it's fair as far as inflation. They haven't gone up drastically. It was maybe $5 a year. Also, I have the best customer service with them when I call. I'm a Realtor so it does matter a little bit to me the customer service and who I would even recommend to my clients or tell them who I'm using. The last company that we used was a plumbing company and it was for our hot water heater. The technician that came out was awesome and he made up for everything the company did. The customer service themselves at the company sucked and everybody had an attitude. They didn't care. I told them that the hot water heater was out and we were without hot water. The rep said they could see us the next week. I told her that was not good but she blew me off again. It was very nasty. I told her again and she said, "Do you want this appointment or not?"
I called American Home Shield back to let them know that the company was blowing me off and they called the company to try to get them to come out sooner. They did a lot to try to make it work, but it was just the company that wouldn't. I'm noticing that this seems to be the norm with the companies that American Home Shield chooses. It was the same when my AC went out. Here in San Antonio, it was 100 and something degrees and that was an emergency here. I had my mom and dad flying in because it was my son's graduation and they're older people. They definitely can't be in the heat. The upstairs was hotter and that's where the guest bedrooms are. I called and let the company know. It took them almost two weeks to get all the parts and come back. I get that but they should not just have me waiting and calling every day to see what's going on.
American Home Shield should vet their companies and make sure that they're choosing companies that are good and that are gonna be of customer service to the people because their name is only as good as the companies that they use. If the companies have five negative reviews under American Home Shield, they should cut them and go with another contract. We're paying good money to American Home Shield every month not to get mediocre service but to get the service we deserve when it's all said and done. That does not always happen with who they're using.
There was one contractor that performed proficiently. It took the tech a week to get out there but when he came, he looked at the issue, he troubleshooted it, and he said, "This could probably buy you hot water for another week until we get a part. If it doesn't, give us a callback. I can try to come out and reset it again." It turned out it was the sensor that was going bad. He put something on there to help it. We had hot water the entire time until he came back to put the part in. He went the extra mile. He was like, "This water is cold-cold." I told him I can't take a bath in cold water. It puts my body in shock. The five days we were out of a hot water heater, we were boiling water. I called him Thursday morning and he came out Monday afternoon. He said he would be back with us on Wednesday. But they didn't get back until Friday around 4 o'clock.

American Home Shield just fixed my washer. Once I said what was wrong, the ball got rolling and they had somebody there at eight o'clock the next morning. He was professional and knew right where he looked at it what was wrong. He went out to his truck, got a part, put it on, and was done. My washer works great now. I'm satisfied with the work that AHS does. They just need to stop going up on my premium.

I had somebody come in through American Home Shield on a refrigerator. I've had three claims in the last few months, which is crazy. It seemed like everything was going wrong. They took care of a dishwasher for me. Then my refrigerator went out on me. They repaired it. It works great now. AHS really has some good people that they're working with around here, which is different. I used to have OneGuard Home Warranty. I keep a home warranty all the time. OneGuard's people didn't really do the job well and they had some issues. Since I switched to American Home Shield, I really like them. They've been right on point and are taking care of everything like they said.
The contractors were good. One guy with AT Appliances came in and he told me that he was gonna get parts and prices. It took him a week and almost 10 days. Then they called me, they said they couldn't get the parts and I needed to get a new dishwasher. So, I wasn't too happy with them originally but I get it. My refrigerator went and the same appliance company came in. The older gentleman that owns the company came to fix the refrigerator. He thought his young guys weren't doing that great of a job, but he was great. He owned up to it. He did a great job on the fridge.
I had the heater tune-up and the contractor, apparently, shut the gas valve off to the heaters before he left. So, I had to call them back because my heat wouldn't turn on. The guy went upstairs and said, "Well, the gas valve was shut off." I was like, "Well, that wasn't shut off before." I don't know if he shut it off because he was working on it and he forgot to turn it back on. But when he left, he said, "Oh, you won't have any problems with that this year." I thought, "Okay. Yeah. I do. It won't turn on." Some of these guys are in such a hurry, but it is what it is. It has been an overall great experience. I have no problem with anything that they've done.

We've been having some bad experience. It's still not complete, and I was supposed to call back because I might have an open contract. American Home Shield went up from $75 $100. So, all this time we've been calling to get somebody to come out here, that's $100 now. I'm trying to take care of this because it's not done. This has been going on for about almost five months.
Our air condition leaked, and American Home Shield sent out this guy from a contractor. The guys that they sent out here to replace the water line from the air condition didn't replace the whole line. So, we don't have heat because we can't cut the AC on. I'm trying to get something done about it. And the air condition line that runs the water out the house from the AC outside wasn’t repaired. He left that line and patched it. He didn't take out the whole line. So, when the walls from the mold were rebuilt, everything was nice and beautiful. Everything was hooked up - the air line, the AC, the air thing, air condition, the big thing.
And when he cut the thing on after the walls were built back up, closed up the house again inside, it leaked again. I started hollering, and I had to call a limited restoration to come and cut my air condition off because the beautiful walls that they built back up dripped through that old, dead line that AHS had sent out here to repair. He did not repair the line. He patched it and it wasn't a new line put up. I'm trying to figure out what we're gonna do about this because we don't have air. It's getting cold. I can't cut the heat on because it's still leaking. I can't get the walls mold up again if we cut the air on. But AHS didn't do it. It's the people that they sent out.

The claim for the dishwasher was better than the last few claims. The subcontractor that American Home Shield chose for this type of thing was excellent. They replaced just about every innard inside of it, which is awesome. The flip side of that is that, it is of an age that we were surprised that they would invest in new baskets when it's heading towards 20 years old.
AHS is quick to send someone out but we had an electrical issue and it took them almost 12 months to finally take care of it from the claim in January. So it took all of 2022 to have that repaired. It's because they were using an electrician that was located a good two and a half hours south of us. That electrician kept making an appointment and not showing. So it was American Home Shield willfully choosing someone who had bad reviews. We addressed that with them and they continued to attempt to send them out to us. But that was more than a year ago. It's fair to mention because it meant we were without electricity in a portion of our home for almost a year. It happens.
We found a local subcontractor and paid them directly and then submitted those receipts to American Home Shield. And that was another month or so process. They honored those receipts. But it was disappointing that as much as we spend annually, we had to pay ourselves and then have them reimburse us. Because it was not a small job. It was well over $1,000. That's one of the reasons we have home insurance so that we don't have to put that kind of money out, that most people don't have just sitting around. Still, I’m fairly pleased with AHS. We continue to invest in them every year. I'd like it to be a win-win. They get their money but we get our things taken care of, though I'm not sure that's always the case. We would like a little better service considering how much we pay annually.

I ran into a problem with my refrigerator and it took almost two months for the situation to finally be remedied because of the number of phone calls that I had to make to get somebody out here that knew what they were doing with the refrigerator. So, I went back and forth numerous times. American Home Shield finally decided to replace the refrigerator, but it took forever. So, we ended up getting a replacement refrigerator. But up to that point, I was not very happy with their service. I kept getting the runaround. Every time I called somebody, I would have the same conversation with them and then, it seemed like nothing would get done until I finally called or got ahold of somebody who listened to what was going on. This individual finally made things happen.
The claim in itself was easy to do, but the problem was nothing was being done about it. It just seemed like nobody was in a hurry to do anything. The representatives were professional enough but they were very limited on how the process worked almost as if they were being fed a script to what to tell the customer.
The first contractor I had was here for approximately five minutes and looked at the back of the fridge and said that he couldn't work on it and that his company was not licensed to do that type of work. So, he was the gentleman who told me that he would pass the ticket on. And it just fell from there. The next time I called somebody, it seemed like they, too, were unable to do any type of service with it. And then AHS would recommend other folks who couldn't do the work or never come fix it, not even come out and look at it until, finally, I just made the call. I said we've done this long enough and it's time to replace it.
The company, Luis & Son’s, said that the refrigerator was shot and that it needed to be replaced. And AHS finally agreed that they would replace it. The refrigerator had a condenser issue and with it being a sealed system, that was where the problem was because there are companies out there that don't work on sealed systems. It was an LG sealed condenser system and it seemed like nobody's qualified to do that type of work.
I've already got another claim in right now that's still active. I have a plumbing issue. The company that AHS sent out answered right away, came out and was very professional. It came down to a part being needed to be ordered. I have called the company twice and gotten the same answer twice that they would look into the part and somebody would contact me. And it still hasn't happened. So, I don't know where American Home Shield is finding these people. The CEO needs to take a close look at how these folks are operating and what decisions they make as to whom they're going to talk to or try to get to repair. The gentleman is just sitting up top collecting money because I've heard other folks had the same problems that I've had.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. I'll be back in touch with you soon.

The claim experience with American Home Shield has been slow and confusing. The washer and the dishwasher both went on the fritz and they sent us a technician. He put in an order to get the dishwasher fixed and he said the washing machine was scrap. So he called it in and everything was backwards. They have it being the washing machine being fixed and I'm getting a new dishwasher. That was not supposed to happen. It was the other way around. So I called AHS.
The tech said he's gonna send in a correction and that was the last time I heard of him a month ago. Nothing came about with American Home Shield and I'm still waiting. I talked to them yesterday again. So I'm ticked off about that. The rep said they were gonna expedite it and send it to somebody. Because every time you call, even if you call the US number, it automatically goes overseas. I wanna talk to somebody here in the States and you call them. They take the information. They’re gonna forward it and expedite it, and nothing is expedited.
We almost didn't sign up for American Home Shield again a couple of months ago. We were thinking we should try somebody else but we were gonna stick with the one we have because we’ve been with them all this time and they fixed our microwave and then, they fixed our sink. Generally, the experience is good. We had this one plumber come by and he said we didn't have plumbing on my contract. I kept saying I do. But that was information that he got wrong. We have plumbing, air conditioning and heating. He had to come back but that was taken care of within a few days. AHS could do a customer call when you need something expedited or if there's a problem, especially when it's been going on again and again. They should just send somebody here or contact the guy who originally came here and just follow through.

The one I spoke to on the phone when we were setting up the appointment was very helpful, informative, and professional. The tech was as nice as he could be. The claim was for a leak from my son's bathroom toilet and he took care of the repair that one time he came out. And I've had no issues since that time. The coverage is very good and I've been very happy with AHS. Like everybody else, I'm tired of prices going up but I understand business needs.

For the most part, AHS has been pretty good. I've only had a couple of hiccups, but they were always very accommodating to make sure that everything went smoothly. With AHS, I get a free heating tune-up because of the program I have. If they find anything, they'll let me know what kind of work needs to be done. But if they don't, then there's nothing that needs to be done. One time, there was a part that needed to be replaced on my heating unit. AHS went through the process of booking a service call for me and that went through smoothly. However, the contractor company was not communicating well with the workers that were coming out to take care of it. The company ordered the part right away but when it was time to have someone come out, they didn't let the techs know that there was a part that was needed. It didn't put me out though and I didn't have to pay anything. There was just a miscommunication on their end and they fixed it.

The customer service of AHS sucks because you don't get a live person. And when you do, a lot of the time they don't speak English well. One time, I called because they said my rate was going up and I wanted to discuss that. They're going up $17. I think that's a bit much. But they didn't get straight to the point. There needs to be a change, ‘cause when you call there, you shouldn't have to go through all the changes you go through.
I do filing of my claims online all the time. It's simple and easy. It’s just one, two, three. That's a good process right there. But if you call to try to make something, it’s difficult. It should be straight to get somebody and then they set it up. It’s not gonna work that way. My recent claim with AHS was for my refrigerator. American Home Shield was fine, but the company that they sent out here was the problem. The first guy scratched up the inside. He broke a part. They had to send somebody else. But the second guy was awesome. He got it done and he moved the refrigerator and did everything. It turned out great.

AHS claims, "HELP CONTROL OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES”. HVAC repairs are between $3,600-$3,800 without their warranty." A home warranty covers (or helps pay) the costs for repairing or replacing systems and appliances when they stop working". AHS's promises are 100% "verbal excrement". Their contractor determined my HVAC's evaporator coil was rusted and leaking refrigerant. That it should get a full replacement but said AHS would probably balk at a full replacement. So what did AHS offer?
#1: I pay AHS $4,200 to replace the air handler ONLY. They planned to put in a NEW air handler from Goodman and pair and configure that with a 2002 Carrier Heat pump. This would void The manufacturer's warranty. I rejected that, then they offered a full replacement. #2: For full replacement, I pay AHS just over $5,800 for a contractor-grade, entry-level unit. Again, I had to pay thousands - the exact opposite of what they claim they help me avoid. #3: Cash in lieu. Hire my own contractor and AHS would pay me what they were going to pay their contractor. I took this option. AHS mailed me a check for $580. That's it. That's their "coverage". I'm out over $7,400.
I called AHS to cancel. I was transferred to "member resolution". Tia ** agreed this wasn't handled correctly and offered me 2 months free thinking this is commensurate with paying over 7K. I told Tia to cut me a check for 6K to keep my business - that would be more in line with their claims. She repeatedly promised that she would run this by whoever she reports to and get back the same day no later than 2 PM the next day. I never heard back. I sent a follow-up asking for an update – No response.
Called again to cancel, and I spoke to Ronnie ** in member resolution. He promised Tia would call back in the afternoon. I never heard back. AHS makes a bunch of empty promises. They don't live up to their claims or keep their word. AHS isn't going to give you a home warranty that covers the costs of repairing or replacing systems when they stop working.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

The AC unit's compressor went out. American Home Shield repaired that. When the pool vacuum stopped working, AHS did not repair that. The garage door needed a new motor and they repaired that. But I'm not too happy with them right now. Nothing happened with it. And when I spoke to someone even getting the policy set up, they told me that my pool vacuum would be covered. That was the number one thing for me. But when I submitted a claim, they told me, "No. It's not covered." So, my pool still hasn't been fixed. It took a very long time to get the provider to write his report. I had to call in several times before he did. I never want that contractor at my house again.
With the compressor, it took a month to get the part and get the air working. We were very warm in the house until that was done. By the time they did it, the weather had changed. The garage door took a little time, but it went faster and smoother than anything else. The contractor for the garage was awesome. However, American Home Shield needs to be a bit more upfront about what coverages they have because they were not with me. I've not been happy and have been looking for a different company.

I had a pretty good experience submitting my claims. But it depends on the vendor coming. It's up to the consumer to vet them before you let them in your door. Because sometimes the company will send the A squad or the B squad or the C squad or the D squad. I want to get the $100 for coming over. You gotta ask them some questions before you let them start tinkering around in your house, or who they are, and are they certified what they're doing. Some might get a little offended if you ask them about their qualifications for doing the work. But otherwise, it's all good.
My last experience was with a roofing claim. The contractor came and they did some work and it was perfect. It took a couple of visits but it was done. Over the phone, the American Home Shield reps were pretty excellent. Their website is very good. But there are some problems with their reporting system and the internet. It forces you into some categories and not everything may fit in those categories. Some problems are not just so cookie-cutter. There are products in your home that might be covered, but you don't know what to select. Having American Home Shield is a good way for a homeowner to manage repairs and maintenance in their home. I'm glad I have them. I sleep better at night.

I had an air conditioning problem that was very, very, very difficult. I'm in San Antonio, Texas where we've had triple digit summers for a record number of days in a row. My air conditioning broke the summer before and it was a nightmare. I have three kids and it was over 90 degrees inside the house. American Home Shield finally got me a little portable air conditioning for one of the kids' rooms, which we ended up all staying in. It was a nightmare. It continued all the way through the summer. American Home Shield ended up replacing the air conditioning unit. But the new one never worked. Then winter came and we didn't talk to them anymore until the next summer when it started getting hot again and it was obvious it still wasn't working.
I called American Home Shield back and they told me that it was past the three-month warranty for the new unit. I wanted to use the manufacturer's warranty. I knew I had gotten a lemon. Eventually, American Home Shield figured out that the new one was missing a piece. But they wouldn't pay for it because they said, "Well, it's not broken. It's missing." I said, "But it was never there. Y'all got me a brand-new unit that was missing a piece and it was never there." They said, "Well, sorry. There's nothing we can do. It's been too long." I told them that was not my fault. It was their fault. They came out 11 times the first time. Then the second summer, it was 12 times, and it was miserable. But by then I had bought all portable units for all the rooms because I wasn't gonna go through that again.
I ended up having to buy that piece because they wouldn't cover it. It's working now but I was out of pocket of over $2,000 the first summer and it never got fixed. Then I was out of pocket of another $800 the second summer. The kids were back in school and it finally got fixed. So it was a horrible, horrible experience.
American Home Shield told me that there was nothing that they could do because they don't work with that vendor anymore because that vendor did such a crappy job. American Home Shield gave me a new vendor and the new one said, "Well, I can't warranty their work." I just ended up getting the short end of the stick every which way. During all that time, my refrigerator broke and that claim was a very pleasant experience. The vendor came and fixed it. It went nicely. So when things are easy, American Home Shield is very nice. But when things are hard, you cannot reach anybody. When you ask for supervisors, they say they'll escalate it and have somebody call you. But they never do.
When you call, you're on hold forever and then they disconnect you. It's the worst, worst system for customer service when you have an issue. The reps were all very pleasant and nice, but ineffective. They just couldn't do anything. When it's a real problem, nobody will take any accountability. They'll always pass it on to somebody else until they end up hanging up on you accidentally and then it starts all over again.
I bought the platinum plan and American Home Shield takes that money out of my account every single month like clockwork. I had them for years and there were years that went by that I didn't have any problems. But when I did have a problem, they weren't very helpful at all, so much so that I'm probably going to not use them anymore. I used to recommend American Home Shield to all my clients. But I don't do that anymore because of my personal experience.

I called American Home Shield when I had a leak in my pipes. It was very good, efficient and professional. My son said the tech was very good and did everything he had to do with no problems. I pay 125 for each visit. It's good. I would have liked the service to be a bit faster, not many days in between. It doesn't look like AHS has any help during the weekends. Otherwise, they're good.

Most of the time, I call American Home Shield to submit claims. Sometimes, I do it online. It's better than most. They got good guys but I had to change one of them because I didn't like the work they did. He charged me a lot of money for something I could have done myself, and he knew it, but didn't say anything. So, I told AHS to give me another and don't send him back. And they didn't. But so far, the work was okay.
The first time the guy came for the heater, he said something was loose inside. Whatever he did worked for a day. It got cold here so I had to burn my gas fireplace all day and night to warm the house up. And when he came back, he told me I need a circuit card and the circuit card was bad. He ordered it, got it, put it on Monday and it's working fine now.

I like American Home Shield. I needed my roof fixed because it was leaking, and they got back to me immediately. The contractors did a great job. When I needed a plumber instead of a furnace person, AHS switched it out with no problem. They also did a great job.

The furnace was not working so I went online and submitted a claim. AHS established a company to come out to fix it. I contacted the contractor the following morning and they came out that day within a couple of hours and fixed the furnace.

My pool filter blew up and the contractor replaced the part of the kettle and fixed it. It was done correctly and that was really nice. I was not very happy with the claim before that, though. My washing machine broke down and they said that the barrel was cracked and it was not due to wear and tear but misuse and operator error. I told them I've had the same washing machine for 15 years and everything was fine. It wasn't imbalanced. The rep said the only way the barrel can get cracked is if there's a misalignment due to loading it wrong. I said that since it's old, some other thing could have given out and he said that we don't have any evidence of that. They did what I would call a cursory review rather than pulling the chassis out to see what would have caused the imbalance. And because I'm not a washing machine expert, it's not like I could take it apart and say, "Look, this bearing went out and that caused it.” AHS has unfair leverage when they want to say no. They played a bully game and I'm planning on quitting them.

I had a claim with AHS for my furnace and the tech from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas who worked on it went up there to do something. The furnace worked as far as heat but when we got some hot days, I would turn the air and it got hotter and hotter. They wanted me to wait another three days before they came out. But I had waited three days for them to come out to fix the first time so why should I have to wait around for somebody to come back out again?
Then, when I did set it up, the guy didn't come out when he was supposed to. I called back and told them they could give me my money back. When they asked me and told me I had to pay that $125, I paid without any fussing or mumbo jumbo. But they're telling me I got to wait another 24 to 48 hours for somebody to come out and correct something that should have been corrected? I don't think so. It was taken care of, but I had to keep calling. It turns out one of the wires fell off so my air conditioner wouldn't work. The tech had to put the wire back in there and it didn't take him but a few seconds or so. That's what they should have done right away rather than telling me I have to wait.

I needed a repair for a microwave oven and I made a claim with AHS. I had a first technician who came out and took a look at what I needed. He said he knew what I needed then he went back and ordered a part. It was delivered and it was the wrong part. So I got back in touch with him, then he came by and picked it up. I called Samsung and got the right part number for what he needed. He said he would order it as soon as the one that was improperly ordered had been received. That went on for a couple of weeks, then I called American Home Shield and told them that I couldn't even get this guy on the phone. So, American Home Shield got in touch with him, got back to me, and said that he ordered the right part that day.
When the part came, I still could not reach the technician, so I called American Home Shield back. They said they'd try but they couldn't reach him either. So they transferred that work ticket over to Sears who came out in about seven days. In the meantime, I had gotten the proper part in the mail. I tried to get back to Sears to tell them I had the part but there was no way to contact them to let them know. So when their technician arrived, he had no idea that I had the part here on hand. He came in and in about 10 minutes, installed it. He was a nice guy. But it was about three weeks from the time I had a problem with the microwave until I got one back that was working properly.
Other than that, the AHS reps I talked to were very nice. When I finally explained that everybody was having a problem trying to reach this first technician, they accelerated it up to another level of American Home Shield and within about 12 hours, I had another technician assigned, with the date and time of the appointment, and everything got lined out after that. The microwave oven needed a new door. It's a unit that installs over a stove and it has a large door on the front, and that door had lost its ability to react to touch pressure on the control panel. So that whole door had to be replaced and after the replacement, it's been working fine.

My washing machine's lid broke. AHS replaced it and some of the workings in it. As a matter of fact, the man who came to fix it said I better be glad I got insurance because if I didn't, it would be a $700 job. He was great and it was a great company that AHS did business with. He was very thorough and he tried to be as fast as he could to get the job done, and he did. After he came over here and looked, he wrote down what they needed, and it didn't take much time to get it fixed. So I was really happy.
I've also had the home warranty with American Home Shield with another house in another place and I have nothing bad to say about them. I've never had any problem with them. When people would ask me about a home warranty, I would tell them there's only one I know that is the best. And I've had more than one. I've had two others and I would take American Home Shield because they stand by what they do. When you call them, you don't wait 72 hours and the tech comes. They do what they say, so I really like them.

I have had the AHS Gold plan for several years without any major claims. My 4 year old heat pump stopped working - just before the coldest days so far this winter. They picked an HVAC company from Atlanta (5 hours + drive from here) though they have an office in Augusta (~ 3 hours drive) as well. A tech came out 2 days later without calling first as was promised by the scheduler. He barely looked at the unit outside, said it was working so the problem was with the air handler blower motor in the attic and said the fan of this motor was seized up due to a short and needed to be replaced. AHS determined that this was not ‘normal wear and tear’ (NWaT) so they would not cover the replacement. There is no way allowed for the customer to speak to the HVAC ‘expert’ who made this decision. I wanted to know what made this ‘not NWaT’ but no one could tell me this.
I could not get a refund of the service call fee and they had the nerve to charge me an extra $70 to cancel my contract with AHS “early” though I’ve had it and never failed to pay the monthly fee for about 5 years. I called a local HVAC company who sent out a tech within 2 hours. He thoroughly checked out the unit outside as well as the air handler and found the condenser had frozen - likely due to a short from a power surge. Also the blower motor fan was damaged but was not frozen and there was no sign of anything I could have done that would have avoided this problem that might not be considered ’notNWaT’. Both these expensive components are covered by the warranty since I just replaced the entire system in 2019. So beware!
You can pay into the company for years and when you have a valid and unavoidable claim they will go to the lowest bidder to supposedly take care of your problem and then they can take this ‘not NWaT’ clause to avoid paying for the necessary repairs. And you will have no appeal rights. And you don’t even have the right to learn the basis of their decision-making.

I am not happy with the people that American Home Shield contracts with, one particular electrical company. I am not happy with the language barrier and with getting the little peons that won't pass me on to supervisors as well. When I tried to cancel, the woman went on and on for 10 minutes. Every time I would say, "I just wanna cancel," she kept saying, "Well, I’ll give you another month." I then said, "I just wanna cancel,” and she wanted to give me two months. I'm also not happy with the ridiculous things that the home warranty company will cover and yet there are things that are needed that they won't cover.
My main thing is that the contractors that they contract with are not reputable and are known in the area not to be reputable. I even recommended American Home Shield to my daughter, and I was supposed to get a $25 Amazon card. I had to fight for it, and I still have not received it. She's been a customer now for just about a year. They don't follow through.

Everything was fine. The contractors were good. They're gonna replace it. But I would choose one myself because what they have to replace it with is not in stock. Everything's been good so far with AHS. I pay $42 a month and it covers the whole house. It's not bad relative to what it covers, and the possibility of having to replace it and it's all covered.

I have been paying for their top plan (shield Platinum) for a couple of years so that if I ever have issues, then everything would be covered. Well, first time I had a minor issue with my AC, they charged the $100 deductible and put freon, no issue; second time, the contractor said that they don't cover maintenance (even though the reason the contractor came to my house was that AHS recommended I get their free yearly maintenance, so I scheduled it online), but no problem, I paid an extra $500 for maintenance to the contractor, which brings me finally to now when I finally had a real issue with the AC, the contractor came out, turned the AC off and after a couple of days of continuous follow up with them they just let me know that we'll AHS won't cover the problem (coil leak), but they will give me a discount on the repair and "all I have to pay is $2050".
What the heck is the point of the warranty if they don't cover breakdown? Plus, I can have another company replace the coil for cheaper, so what is the point of the "discount"? They should cover the AC as promised or reimburse me the thousands I've paid in premiums over the years without any claims! Terrible company with shady contractors. Please heed my warning and stay away!!!

American Home Shield has been wonderful. They've helped me out in the last few years. I won't get rid of them. Their rates have been fantastic. All my concerns have been dealt with online perfectly. I just got done using them on a major problem and they took care of it. My central heating unit wasn't heating the house. I did the claim on a Saturday morning, and Monday morning I had a phone call from the company that was doing the work and set up an appointment. They came out and troubleshot it. They thought they had it fixed the first time but they didn't. They had to come out two more times before they put the right part on and found the problem. They were very nice people.
I also used American Home Shield last year for a major appliance which was my air conditioning unit. They took care of that as well. It was 105 degrees here. If the contractors that American Home Shield sends can't fix the issue, they replace the unit with a brand new one. Recently, my dishwasher stopped working. A contractor came out to try to fix it. About a week later, another error code came on. The parts were gonna be too much so they're replacing the dishwasher today. For anything we've had replaced, they sent Whirlpool out to do it or Home Depot or Lowe's. You get to pick from a very long list of what dishwasher you would prefer comparable to what you have. When we bought our dishwasher, it was about $800. They are replacing it with a $1,200 one.
The only bad thing is sometimes it takes a little while. It's not as easy as you’re running out and grabbing it from Home Depot, but it works. Sometimes it took a little while of me being on the phone for hours to resolve the issue. But in the end, it has always gotten resolved. I had one contractor that wasn't so great one. But I called and they sent somebody else. The coverage is 90 bucks a month. When they come out, you pay a deductible of 125. But if they can't fix it, they replace it so it's a fair price. A couple of times, I couldn't understand a few of the reps. It’s hard sometimes when somebody speaks broken English and you're on the phone. I had said, “I would prefer to speak to somebody that I can understand." They accommodated that.

AHS is great for appliances in home issues. We've had many years of good service and replacements. We reach out to them both by phone and online. My husband enjoys being on the phone more and talking to humans while I enjoy doing the computer more. We reached out to AHS when we had stopped up toilets and didn't know where it was coming from. This had been ongoing maybe five times. It was complicated because it happened in two different parts of the basement. We weren't sure what was happening and a whole bunch of things had to occur to figure out what happened. The techs we had were very courteous and they told us exactly what needed to be done. It's just they didn't have the equipment to do what they needed to do to pump the drain. We did it outside of AHS and got it all pumped up.

Let me start by saying American Home Shield does have some capable and professional vendors. I’ve had two positive experiences which were why I stayed with them for so long. However, given my recent struggle with my AC I’m starting to think those good contractors might be the exception rather than the rule. And when you don’t get one of those, well…
TL;DR: This summer my AC broke down. Over three months and five (at least, I’ve lost track) contactors later, it is still not fixed as we are entering a rather chilly winter. Over the course I’ve spent more than ten hours talking to AHS agents over the phone in lengthy, repetitive conversations that triggered all kinds of negative emotions. As of today I was told (once again) by a new agent that they need to “check” what is going on with my service request and “hopefully” things will move forward from there.
Now, the long story. AHS has a rather simplistic portal that doesn’t let you see or choose contractors when submitting a request, and they have a history of “automatically assign” contractors of the worst Google/Yelp rating possible – I’m talking below two stars. Now, how a business is viable with that level of reputation I do not know, but AHS seems to have an odd talent of identifying and collecting those companies in their vendor network. Last time that happened, I was able to call AHS and request a different contractor. This time when I called, I was given various excuses of why that wouldn’t be possible. Since “you’ve made a service request online and our system has assigned you the best contractor” I was asked to at least give them a chance. Alright.
The said contractor texted me right away and told me they wouldn’t be able to come out until 5 days later. Since AHS has a policy that states a contractor should be available within 48 hours, I called AHS again asking if I can be assigned someone who can come out sooner (we were in one of the hottest weeks toward the end of August). AHS replied that yes, if they are not available we can assign you someone else, but we need to hear it verbally from them first. That was absurd to me because apparently the contractor didn’t answer their phone call so AHS was unable to verify if and when they were available and, as a consequence, cannot assign me a different contractor. Even if I were able to provide the screenshot of their text message, that didn’t matter.
It was the next week when I was able to make an appointment with the contractor. When the technician showed up he only took a look at my AC and said “we’ve told AHS so many times, we don’t service this type of AC.” You can imagine my astonishment because I’d assume AHS made me wait for this particular contractor for over a week – when it was over 90 degrees outside – for some good reason! I complained about it to them right away. But oh my god I was so naïve to think that was outrageous enough. It was barely the opening chapter of this ridiculous ordeal.
I told the AHS agent what happened and demanded another contractor. But “we need to confirm with the contractor first, this is our policy.” And there again the company took their sweet time to provide that confirmation. I texted and called them to no avail. Called AHS again and was told they were “still waiting for the technical diagnosis from the contractor before we can move forward from the process.” Technical diagnosis from a technician who didn’t take a second glance at my AC and didn’t bother to file a report afterwards.
That went on for another week or two, and at least two AHS agents told me they will follow up on the matter but didn’t. I kept calling and after many frustrating conversations AHS was eventually ready to assign me another contractor. I reminded them to verify that the contractor they assign can actually service my AC. The agent promised me that would not be a problem. But when the assigned contractor contacted me, I asked them if they could work on my type of AC, and the answer was no. That should have led me to drop AHS then and there, but I didn’t know better.
I called AHS again and got another contractor. This time they confirmed that they could do the work. Great. When making an appointment they only have 9am-3pm time slots. I let them know that I would be available in the morning but need to leave before noon for an afternoon flight. The receptionist said she’d leave a note for the technician to come in the morning.
The technician didn’t come in the morning. When it’s closer to the time I need to leave I called the company and let them know that. Still I got a phone call from the technician at noon saying they are at my property. I explained that I was on my way to the airport as I’d communicated with their receptionist multiple times. He said “well, up to you.” We rescheduled for the week after, but then I was told on the day that the technician couldn’t make it due to personal reasons. No apology for my wasted time. No attempt to reschedule either.
I requested another contractor from AHS. This time the technician showed up and checked my AC. He said I needed refrigerant, which AHS only covers for $10 per pound, so I’ll have to pay the bulk of it out of pocket. This is new information for me, so I had to call AHS and verify. It turned out they did have some fine print saying that. But apparently refrigerants can be many times more expensive than $10/lb.
While making the phone call I also quickly looked it up online and found that my AC, which is an earlier 2000s unit, likely used the phased out Freon R22, and the technician wanted to top it up with R407c which is one of the later available alternatives, but mixing the two is explicitly forbidden by EPA. Although there are “professionals” online saying they do it all the time, many others strongly advise against it. Not only for the environmental concerns, but the two refrigerants are also not compatible with the same type of lubricant oil, which can lead to further problems with the compressor.
I raised these concerns to the technician, who then put me on a phone call with his manager. I became more suspicious with the manager who asserted that I had a leak (the technician told me in definitive terms that I DID NOT have a leak) and needed a top up, and that there is no problem whatsoever in mixing the two refrigerants (which is clearly at contrary to what I read online about EPA regulations). He then proceeded to offer me a discount off what the technician quoted me for, and proposed that I could replace all remaining refrigerant with R407c if I was worried about mixing refrigerants (later I learned this would not be a good solution either as replacing R22 with R407c would still require changing the oil and flushing the system).
Trying to process all this information, I asked the technician a few more questions, who then impatiently said he needed to talk to the manager again and headed out. I thought he was picking up some tools or making another phone call, but he never came back. So the technician left my place without telling me so while I was waiting for him to come back and finish the work.
Taken aback, I called AHS and told them I did not want another visit from this company. They in turn quoted me for x amount (the original amount the technician quoted me for) of payment not covered by the home warranty. I repeated, the work was not done, and I did not trust what this company proposed to do. I wasn’t even sure if I needed refrigerant at all since the words of the technician and his manager were at odds (regarding whether I had a leak or not) and he didn’t show me the pressure reading.
After some lengthy process I was assigned another contractor. Since it was already fall, the weather was pleasant enough that the AC was not immediately needed, so I was not overly bothered by the additional delay this time. This new contractor did not text or call me to make an appointment. Instead, one day I received a text followed by a phone call while in a work meeting telling me “a technician is on the way” and then “I’m here.” With no pre-warning whatsoever! I’m so glad that instead of jumping to making an actual appointment with them I double checked if they service my type of AC. Again, the answer was no. That was my experience with the five contractors AHS found for me. But my ordeal with AHS continued.
After this fifth contractor my patience was up and I found it hard to trust another contractor sent by AHS. I got introduced to a technician that sounds more knowledgeable and professional, and I asked AHS if they are in their network. Unfortunately, their local HVAC network seems to be full of unreliable, unresponsive, unprofessional contractors. I even pointed that out to one of the AHS agents I talked with and stressed the fact that they had a 1.5-star rating on Google when the lowest you can get is one star (this is the technician who walked out on me while saying he was going to call his manager). I said, “Would you trust this company to work on anything in your house?”
The AHS agent jumped on the opportunity to say, enthusiastically, “Yes! I will trust them because they are a contractor in our network, and you should give them a chance too! We don’t look so much at Google ratings but the actual performance…” (This is after I just told him that they wanted to mix refrigerants against EPA regulation and the technician left without finishing the job or telling me he’s leaving.)
I really shouldn’t have expected AHS agents to use basic common sense or empathy with their customers. If they do have the slightest amount of either, they shouldn’t be able to tell me mechanically that they had to “get a verbal confirmation” from an unresponsive contractor before they’d even consider assigning me someone else to fix my AC in 90s degree summer. As what they are still telling me now that it’s getting into the 30s at night. Do not buy their home warranty!

I've had several claims since I moved in to this house and American Home Shield struggled to get technicians out to my area, which is in the country. But still, if you buy a home warranty, you would think that they could honor it. Every time that they can't get a technician out, they say that I can get my own technician and they'll reimburse me. But the process is so tedious, it's almost not worth it. And they don't reimburse you the total cost. My septic was $3,000 and they reimbursed me $650. I'm not happy with AHS right now. I submitted the septic claim online and it took three months to get the check. And on the phone, it’s very hard to get someone that can understand. There's a lot of foreign people that you deal with. But other than that, I've been able to work through it. The contractors have been good. Plumbing has come out three times and they've been great. Everything they fixed is working.

My hot water heater broke and needed a bunch of new pieces put in. The techs were awesome. They were out there in a timely manner when they said they would be there and had it fixed the same day. The gentleman noticed that the water heater still wasn't getting hot enough so he added more pieces to make it work perfectly. So, I was very impressed. The service was great. I had an air conditioning repair done thru AHS. I submitted the service request through the online portal, then one contractor came out. I didn't like him, so they sent a separate contractor out and my experience with him was good. Since then, the AC has been working fine. But American Home Shield didn't cover one part of the repair, which didn't seem right to me. I didn't know what they were doing, but they were trying to say that there was a modification when there wasn't, so I had to pay out of pocket for that.

I had a microwave repair with a company called A+ and they were very good. They had great communication and timely arrivals. I also had a claim for the stove which went down before Thanksgiving. I called American Home Shield and I had a ticket created. The contractor assigned to my claim was Sears but I didn't hear from Sears in that whole week, so I had to call AHS the Monday before Thanksgiving. I asked them what was going on because I tried to call Sears and I couldn't get through to anybody. Also, when I called Sears, I had to go through their voice menu hell and it just sent me round and round in circles. So AHS contacted Sears and Sears said they never received the work order. AHS then resent it to them and they said that they got it.
But I still haven't heard anything, so I called American Home Shield today while the microwave repair guy was here. They called Sears again then Sears told them that they never received the work order. But I said that was not true because the last time AHS called them, they said they received it. So I ended up asking AHS if they could just cancel the work order for Sears and give the work order over to A+. They've been more dependable in communicating. AHS agreed and said that they would just refund me the $107 I spent for the Sears ticket. They would turn this ticket for the microwave and put the stove on that ticket as an add-on repair. That way I wouldn't have to pay again and that was really good.
Whenever I call AHS, my experience depends on who I get. Sometimes it's difficult to understand their reps. Bad accent that was really thick. I felt bad, but I ended up having to hang up then I went back to see if I could get somebody else. Recently, American Home Shield has implemented a new voice menu system and that seems to have taken some of the issues with communication out of the way. If I just wanted to call up and check on the status of my ticket, I could go through the voice menu, it asks me to press 1 if I'm checking on the status of a ticket, then it reads me back everything. It lets me know what the status is and who the repair company is.
But if I have to interact with an actual person, it’s always a hit or miss. The last one I talked to spoke pretty good English, so I was able to communicate with her well. But in the past, I dreaded calling. I also go online to check the status of my claims, but it's easier for me to call because when I do it on the site, it just says, "Pending." Other than that, American Home Shield's customer service is very good and their price is very reasonable. I went from the standard to the premium package because of the value for it.

The very last claim I had was easy. American Home Shield had something fixed for me, and on this occasion, they were nice enough to send somebody out fast. With my previous claims, I had to wait. They take their time getting people out, and they don't let me pick my own repair person even if some of the stuff is on warranty from the repair person's company. I'm a Realtor, and I even contacted a local real estate rep saying I wanted to pick who fixed the issue, but that didn't matter. I don't like having to have the Podunk repair people come out. I like having one of the best in the city. They're not expensive, but American Home Shield still didn't care. They want their people repairing and that drives me crazy ‘cause their people don't know my AC. I don’t like that.

I had a malfunctioning over-the-range microwave. I did a claim online with AHS and got an automated schedule for the tech to come out. Then he called me the day that he was coming and he was very professional. He knew what he was doing and was a very nice guy. AHS replaced the microwave and the installation was scheduled yesterday. But the guys who came to install the replacement couldn't install it. So they left the unit in the box and I have to figure out how to get the handyman to do some modification to the cabinets to get it installed. So the installation isn't 100% complete but the service call was completed.

I currently have an ongoing claim that was filed in October and that has not been taken care of. I had two water heaters that went out of my home at the same time. The company that American Home Shield sent installed them. First of all, they installed tall units, where my closet spaces are for short units. They installed the water heaters right up against the electrical boxes as well, so I cannot open my electrical box. Another thing is that one of the water heaters immediately quit working a day after. I called back to American Home Shield, and they said that I now had to have a second visit that I had to pay for. It was for an electrician, and when the electrician came, I was told, "There's nothing wrong with your electrical. It's a defective water heater."
I'm still waiting for American Home Shield to send another plumbing company out to fix this. I'm over a month without a water heater. I talked to them this morning, and it was the same thing they always tell me. "We're so sorry. We understand." They clearly have no idea what they're even telling me. Plus, most reps could not speak English. I can't understand what they're telling me. I will never use American Home Shield again. For having one claim in two years and for paying the premium that I've paid, it's a scam. They won't honor their warranty. Why have it if I have to wait over a month for hot water in my home?

I had an issue with my freezer. It wasn't making ice. I had to pay the fee for the contractor to come out and take a look at that. It started in June. They still haven't completed the repair. They were very polite and efficient with their time but I don't think they have the troubleshooting skill set. Initially, when they came and assessed the problem, they replaced a part but it still wouldn't work. I didn't realize there was a 30-day time period to call them back. My 30 days expired two times but my freezer still didn't get repaired. Every time they came out, they either changed a part that didn't fix it and they had to come back and assess the problem again. Then they come back again to replace the part.
There were a lot of difficulties trying to get them to extend it past the 30 days for the workmanship. I had to pay $125 again for them to come out to repeat the service. During the four times 've called, at least six times I've had to wait for them. With the amount of money that I've spent for them to come out and reassess the situation again plus the time off work and the monthly cost, I could have just replaced my refrigerator. I am upset with American Home Shield. They have you on the hook for this contract, whereas if it's still repairable, they still have to repair it. But how many times does it take? It's an ice machine. There are only four things that could be wrong with it.
I've done a separate claim for plumbing. The faucet had a problem and there was also a valve that needed to be replaced. The valve got replaced and the faucet needed to be replaced as well, but they didn't do the replacement of equal value of what is in place. They would have replaced it with a cheap plastic piece. I had to buy my faucet so that they could reinstall it while they fixed the valve on the bottom.
American Home Shield so far hasn't lived up to what I would have anticipated. I expect that if I'm paying a service fee plus a monthly charge, when they come out to come assess the situation, they need to fully assess it and fix it the first time around, not four times later. I'm considering canceling and going with another place. The difficult part with customer service is that's all you get. It's the only person that you speak to who's on the phone. They are clear about how they spoke about things and do well for what they can do, but it doesn't get past that. You're not able to talk to a supervisor or somebody in management.
Jesus, we appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

American Home Shield is focused on customer service and the majority of my calls have been positive. There have been a few hiccups as far as getting contractors. I'm not happy with American Home Shield. It's too expensive and whenever I raise a request, I need to pay an additional $125 copay. Whenever it comes bigger items like a water heater or AC, I don't get a lot of return in the investment. I'm just wasting money. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for maybe five years. I'm in a situation where I feel like getting rid of them and switching to another company. I called a couple of times to cancel my membership but it seems nobody is paying attention. They're just charging every month. To cancel my membership, I need to call them maybe 10 times. If I raise any kind of request, I need to follow up 10, 15 times. They are not responsive at all.
When I call customer service, I need to wait for sometimes 30 minutes. It's not immediate. When somebody picks it up, I start talking with them. If something is very easy to fix, the techs will fix it. But if something is complex or a bigger item, they're trying to avoid the situation. The other complaint I have is American Home Shield charges upfront even before somebody comes and checks what is happening. I have been in a situation where I got charged and that request was never fulfilled because the contractor said it cannot be fixed. I have to go back and forth with American Home Shield to get a reimbursement, which I never got.

American Home Shield could be a bit clearer on what exactly they do and don't cover. They speak in generalities when they sell. And when they get to the repair part, "That's not actually covered." When they sell the policy, it covers all the plumbing in your house. And when the tech got out here, he said, "I don't think they'll replace the stopper in your drain." That, to me, is part of the plumbing. And that happened on my pool equipment. During the sales job, they said it would cover all my pool equipment, where all my motors are. And when it got to it, they wouldn't cover the salt now. Other than that, I just did some back and forth when I submitted the claim, and it was effective. AHS sent a contractor yesterday and did a leaking faucet. The tech was delightful. Nice guy. Came in, did his stuff, said that he had a 30-day warranty and to call him if there were any problems. So, it was good.

We have had AHS do repairs on refrigerator and are in the process of replacing the furnace. The issue I have with them is it takes a while to get the approval and then they have to source the materials. For the refrigerator, they ended up order parts off of ebay to avoid replacing the refrigerator when the contractors could not find replace parts in any parts shops. It took a while for AHS to "source" the part and the fridge started having the same issue a few months later. We just had our furnace go out and put in the request, had the contractor come out and look at it and then make the request to replace it. We are back to waiting for the Company to source the furnace so it been about a week with no heat in chicagoland.
AHS also just changed our HVAC contractor we have been working with and didn't tell us. We also don't have any contact info for the new contractors. When I look them up online, they changed it to the sister Company of AHS, Proconnect RC. I also asked what portion is AHS covering since they are asking us to pay 3200 in noncovered expenses, and they refused to say. I ask my contractor how much they would charge to install the furnace and turns out AHS is paying roughly $2,200 and I am paying $3,200 to replace the furnace. Since we are without heat, I asked about expediting this and was told they can't do that. Asked about contact info for the new contractors, was told they can send an email and try to update it tomorrow, but can't give it to me currently. I was told that essentially, I have to wait for their system to update as they can't give me any info or timeline to resolve this issue.

I didn't have any heat again. I called American Home Shield and they called the contractor. The repairman came back out. He said a wire was loose. It's been working, but I can feel getting cold in the house. I would go and look at the thermostat, and it's supposed to be at 68 but it's going down to 67 or 66. I think something's still wrong with it, but it's a hassle. The technicians have been very nice, but I don't think they know what's wrong with things. They're patching things up instead of getting to the root of the problem. Also, the prices keep going up. I pay 80 a month, and when you have a call, it's another 100, and that's changed. The microwave was broken, and the guy came the first time, and he couldn't fix it. They broke it worse. Another guy came, and he fixed it. It still wasn't exactly right, so we fixed it ourselves. The service people from American Home Shield always do good. They always come back when they don't fix something. I got an old hot water tank, and it won't blow up. I was wishing it would, but it didn't. The well pump went bad, and they came and fixed it, paid what they should pay, and I paid what I had to pay. So far, so good.

I've used AHS three times so far - furnace, electrical, and a furnace tune-up. For the furnace, my furnace wasn't working right after I purchased the home. They had an HVAC company come out and I had a clogged condensate-something. They took care of it. For the electrical, an electrician came out because my fuse box was making a really loud buzzing noise. He found what the issue was, that there were too many things that were loaded on that circuit. He helped me with a few other things while he was there.
Then, the tune-up was a regular tune-up for the furnace. The electrician figured it out quickly, but he ended up helping me with a few things. He was really nice. Had a few questions. I was changing out some electrical outlets and wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly. But when I called in to set things up myself, it was not very good customer service over the phone. It was hard. There was a language barrier and they didn't really understand what I was saying and they weren't really willing to get me somebody who could help me.

Having AHS is good. Their service has been fine. The only thing they need to do is come out a little quicker than they do. It's mostly about three days before they'll come when you call. It's hit or miss with American Home Shield. Most of the contractors are good. I've only had a couple that could have done a better job than they did. I had one particular occasion where American Home Shield wasn't wanting to pay for something that they were supposed to. I had to go through the chain of command and they ended up paying for it. For the most part, I've been happy with the service. But the pricing has gotten much more than what it used to be. The same service that I pay for now used to be half of what it is now.

I got out of American Home Shield and looked for a better-priced deal. I got ahold of a company and right away, I did not like them. When I wanted to cancel from them, they would not let me cancel. I had to get a new credit card, put a stop to them quickly, and went right back to American Home Shield. They went up in price from 100 to 125. They're a little spendy but when you need the help, they're there for you. They always do a good job. The reps are very courteous but sometimes the English is not clear. I have hard hearing problems and they get a squeaky voice too. But when I am able to understand what they're saying, which is not even 95% of the time, they work with me very well.
Recently, I didn't have heat in the house. The gas burners pooped out. I waited a whole week because the repairman from Value Heating was on vacation. I wanted him to come back out to the house. He's always done a wonderful job. I had filter pads in my four vents. He had taken them off and it went up to 65 but it shut off again. I had to call him and he said said, "I gotta do a job over in another town. As soon as I get done there, I'll come right back out to your place." In the past, he had replaced an electronic board. He went back in, took that board out, put a new one and we've been having heat ever since.
When Value Heating was not able to come out, American Home Shield said they could set up another company for me. I got ahold of the people but they said they could come out in a week. That was unacceptable. Even the guy from Value Heating said that was unacceptable. That's why I like Value Heating and I'm glad they're with American Home Shield.

Sometimes I would have a problem with the people that they send out, so I would contact American Home Shield and tell them the issue with the company. AHS has been getting better and they act pretty fast on claims. I submit my requests online and their website is very user-friendly. Their contractors are good, too. I had a claim for one of the outlets of the kitchen that wasn't working, which was the outlet for the refrigerator in an Airbnb. When the issue happened, I had a client there and I needed someone to come as soon as possible because I was expecting another guest.
When the techs came out, they checked the outlet and they said that the refrigerator wasn't plugged correctly because the outlet was working. Apparently, when the client saw that the refrigerator wasn't working, she tried to plug it in the GFCI outlet. They explained to me that you never plug the cord of the refrigerator to a GFCI. They found that the GFCI was bad, so they changed it with one that they brought. Then they checked the rest of the outlet. So, they didn't just do what I requested, but they did more. Also, two people came instead of one. So, when one was checking the outlet, the other one was checking the electricity box and the breakers. After that, they called me to ask me if everything was working well. So far, that was the best experience that I have had with American Home Shield.
A year ago, I had another experience with my air conditioning and the tech had to come four times. At first, they told me that it was a fuse that was out. So, they changed the fuse. Then, it happened again and again and again. They went to the outside of the home and they saw that a cable was peeled. It was making contact with something and it was creating a shortcut. So finally, they fixed it. I was upset with that company because they didn't fix the AC right away and they were not sure about what was happening. Aside from that, they didn't do a quality survey unlike the electrical company that I had.

The loft power went out, which turned out to be a short in one of the wall sockets. I set up a service online and it was easier to do it that way. The AHS website was intuitive and it really flowed well. But part of that process was the organic delay of waiting to set up the appointment with the vendor itself. The tech called a couple of hours later, but the actual appointment was three weeks out.
When the he came out, he was on time and at the front end of the appointment that was scheduled. It was an 11:00 to 3:00 window and the gentleman arrived at 11:00. Then in 30 minutes or so, he had taken all of the wall plates and sockets off, and had a complete diagnosis on what the problem was. Since the repair, I've been able to go back to fully functioning from a power perspective in that area. All in all, the AHS warranty is a good product, especially if you own a home, as the home starts to mature. The service is up to par. It also adds the value and the protection that you're looking for. So, I'd recommend it. The price has been going up consistently but everything in the market has been going up.

Customer service is professional but it's just the time. The call can last 45 minutes to an hour. That aside, the service was good. Techs came out in a timely manner and said there was a reset switch in the wall heater. They reset that button inside the wall heater. They said that if it happens again, that's what we should do. When an appliance is messed up, the insurance should do what they say they’re gonna do. I had a water heater that was going back and forth with Home Shield. I had a second person come in, and they said almost the same thing. The home warranty company told me they won't cover my water heater because it was 10 years old and that it was a normal wear and tear situation. I had to borrow money and get it fixed on my own. I was disappointed at Home Shield, and I wish they could do a little better, but they have their own rules and regulations.
I got Home Shield because my cousin was telling me about it. I just got signed with them going on a month and I'm still with them, but now, the freezer on my refrigerator is messed up. The refrigerator is warm, and it's also an older unit. If Home Shield gives me the same runaround as with the water heater, I'm just gonna cancel them and look for another home warranty, 'cause I know there are some warranties that don't give people as much headache as Home Shield. I don't know why they do that.

American Home Shield has done right by me. The only thing I don’t like is their prices keep going up every single year. I started out at $59 and now I'm up to 79 something. Also, if they start you out with a company, they don't let you pick if you wanna choose another company, even though that company is doing you wrong. They sent someone out for the AC and the company did a halfway job.
They got into an argument with my husband. I spent $600 worth of Freon and it started hissing the next day. My husband went out there and the pipe had busted. But they said that it was the pipe was rotten. My husband said they tightened it too tight and that there was no way we were paying them $900 again and the tech said he could just take the Freon out. It was very unprofessional. We had been asking AHS to change companies and with our most recent AC claim, thank God they sent out a different company to fix it, Apex. They were real professional, real concerned, and really good at what they do. I hope that they keep Apex for me next time because they are really good.

I'm always okay with the representative that I get when I'm making a request. But when I've had issues, it was difficult speaking with customer support accent-wise. I felt like they didn't understand the situation fully because they're from another country.
I've had issues where they sent someone out and they broke the AC. But they said that it was already broken but it was working properly before. It was supposed to be one of those checks. It was really difficult to get them to send a different company out, 'cause I didn't like that company. They also never reimbursed the first one. That one was a headache. They weren't able to understand that the first company broke the AC, so I had to pay twice. It's nice to have coverage from AHS, but sometimes the customer service is difficult.

The outlet behind the refrigerator went out. We lost another outlet that wasn't the refrigerator outlet but nearby. It was convenient to call AHS. They had a third party reach me. I was able to set up a time and date with them. The contractor came out, identified the problem and corrected it. I've used AHS' service once at my primary home and once at our second home. sent a check for a replacement. It wouldn't pay for the entire microwave, but it paid for some parts.
We had three things with the air conditioner. It wasn't getting cool. It ended up being the contractor had to replace the capacitor. The weird thing about it was that caused our sprinkler system not to work as well. So, once they replaced the capacitor on the air conditioning unit, everything started working. Initially, the contractor that AHS assigned to us played a game of chicken. So, I ended up having to ask AHS to not sign them as our primary contractor anymore. Because they had set up three appointments, and each time, they cancelled or rescheduled. The last time, they said, “We don't know we're gonna be able to come.” That didn't make sense. And I already waited a couple of months.
I called AHS back, said that I was not sure what was going on with that contractor because the tech was up there. They were also working on my next door neighbor's air conditioner. He said that took a while. So, I ended up having AHS switch us to a different contractor. The contractor came in and fixed it that day. The people that came out the last three times were good.
When they came back at the end of last month, they had to replace an electronic control module in the main unit because it would come on but there was no air coming out of the vents. The guy deduced what the problem was. He said, “We're gonna have to order a part.” They ordered it, came and fixed it. What they came by to do this past Monday was the yearly heating check. I scheduled it online on Sunday, and they came out on Monday.

I used the warranty a few weeks ago too because someone thought there was an issue with my boiler. There was a little bit of this white substance on top of the boiler where the water comes in. It was a little bit of rust. I was selling the house and the inspector pointed that out saying that he needed further investigation. I called American Home Shield and explained to them what I needed. I had a home warranty policy with AHS from 2005 - 2021. During that time, the only thing they covered was a garbage disposal. They'd use the worst companies in the area who'd send the most awful technicians. On several occasions the technicians would misdiagnose the issue or categorize the issue as user negligence and the repair wouldn't be covered. This forces the homeowner to pay a large amount out of pocket. I had to replace out of pocket; my furnace, 2 HVAC units, and a dryer. My HVAC units were damaged by the technicians sent by AHS. The companies used are not vetted and many of them have negative reviews for being dishonest. Don't use AHS and save your money.

I've had American Home Shield send someone out four times for repairs. They just had someone here for plumbing. They replaced a flap in my toilet. They replaced a cartridge in one of my faucets. They did two other faucets in the garage. They did quite a bit. The workers were very pleasant and respectful. They did a great job. They respected my property. They wore shoe covers, and when they left, they took them off before they exited and put them back on immediately when they came back in. Unlike a lot of places, they put shoe booties on and they walk in and out the house, which is doing absolutely no good. This young man was very respectful.
AHS is too expensive though, and the price just went up. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it because I live in a fairly new home. So, to keep going up on the price is not gonna keep me as a customer. I get a bill and it has a price increase. I get no warning. My bill is paid automatically and if they sent out something, it didn't have red flags that said, "Hey, pay attention to this." I was not happy about that. If they go up again, I'm gonna say goodbye.
I spoke to someone this last time because they sent me someone who sent me the wrong confirmation time and I never spoke to those people. I called them back and said, "That's not the time. I cannot be present for this service. Please give me a call so we can reschedule." I don't have time to put my life on hold for a repair person. They never called back. I never heard from them. I had to call American Home Shield and get a human being on the phone and the attitude was like, "Well, we can get them on the phone." "No, I don't ever want to talk to those people again." They did send me someone else, which was a company that I had dealt with year before last.

AHS is unclear about what's covered and what isn't covered by the warranty. It feels like a Russian roulette. But it's nice to call them and they'll let me know. At the moment, I'm having a problem with my HVAC unit and there's been two people coming out here. This company that came out is the one that I need to use but AHS said that they can't cover something. It's a big mess and I'm going to go somewhere else to get the whole HVAC system taken care of. I don't know what Home Shield is doing or not doing, what they want to cover, and what they don't want to cover. It's all very confusing and stressful.
But if I have a small plumbing issue where they just need to come and tighten something up, I pay $150, then the plumbers come and take care of that. If it's something more than that, it's a mess. Also, I don't know who answers their calls, but they need to get some folks who can really speak English and who are clear because that can be very frustrating. I'm a person of color and English is my second language. So, I'm not just trying to be mean prejudiced. It's really hard to communicate and to get answers that are clear from AHS because of the language issue.

BlueTech did a very good job. The tech was on time and able to fix my garbage disposal that wasn't working. I like American Home Shield's customer service and the understanding of the customer. I had an issue with my AC that took over a month to fix and it didn't go well. The AC company who came out said that my AC needed to be modified. And I had a very bad experience with them. So, I called AHS and asked them if they could send somebody else out, that it had been a while. They said in order to do that, I would have to reopen another claim and repay the $85. Because the other company wanted to charge me $700 for the modification, out-of-pocket.
After so long, I finally said, "Just send me someone else. I'll repay." So, I ended up having to repay. I've already had to repay this $85 three times because they've been out to my house numerous times to try to fix the same issue. And it never got fixed. They temporarily fix it and that's it. In a month, it would go back to the same thing. It wouldn't cool. So, I would have to call again, and because it has been a month, I had to pay again.
Finally, AHS sent somebody else out so conveniently, that part that the contractor had to modify existed even though AHS told me it didn't. They ordered the correct part and I only had to come out of pocket $100 with that new AC company, which was way better than $700. I had to go a month and a half without AC. I had to fight with AHS about sending someone else. That was a very bad experience.

American Home Shield works for the most part. It depends on who I get for the contractor and on what my service level is and how much it covers. I have to pay 145 and pay the contractor too. Recently, the water was leaking and the cold water didn't work. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield using my phone. It was easy. The dude that showed up was professional and nice. But it took a week to do anything because they had to approve for something. And after the person came out here, the thing that they needed to get approval for didn't even need to happen. So, I need to get ahold of them again to ask for a refund. It took way too long.
I had an initial Zoom to show them the issue. And we waited three days before I was told that I needed to get it approved. We waited a week for somebody to come out here, and for it to be approved and get scheduled. So, during that whole time, I garnered a large amount of water in a bucket. I turned my hot water off so I didn't have hot water for three days.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and I hope they stay the way they are. The contractor replaced the unit. They had to order the product and come back. As soon as they got the unit in, they called me and let me know. It was very prompt. They kept me with a heads up on everything. We set up a date when they could do it. And they came out and did it. They checked the unit when they installed it and it worked. If next spring comes or if it gets hot enough this year to use it and it's not working, the tech said, "Just give me a call and I'll come out and check it out."

My dishwasher went bad so I called AHS up. I usually do everything online but I called in this particular claim because I also had a plumbing issue in another room. If you call in a couple of claims, you only pay one service fee and if I had done it online, I would have been charged a service fee for each one. I called them up and they accommodated me. With the plumbing, the contractor did the repair on site. The toilet was not flushing properly and when the tech came in, he diagnosed the issue and went out to the truck, got the parts, came back in, and fixed it. Everything's been fine since.
For the dishwasher, somebody came out within a couple of days. The contractor took their time to thoroughly check out the situation and did the repair. The unit was 20 years old and the parts to fix it would cost more than it would to put a new one in. AHS got in touch with GE after they sent me a selection to choose from and GE is supposed to be delivering it today. A year ago, I had to have a refrigerator replaced and it was the same thing. Things moved along rather quickly and everything was resolved. I've had nothing but good luck with AHS, which is why I keep renewing my policy. When I have a claim in, they're very quick to send text messages and emails to keep me updated on everything. Also, I get a lot of emails with suggestions of things that I could do around the house maintenance-wise.

Meanwhile we have been without a working stove while we wait on AHS to get us the part for repair. And they still can not give a time frame on when the part will be available for install. Very Disappointing.

AHS sent out a gentleman to look at my dryer, which wasn't heating. He pulled the dryer out from the wall and said that I need to clean the vent before he can do anything and left. I didn't appreciate the way the gentleman came out. I called them and I complained. I told them I didn't want them to send the same guy back out. I asked them for my money back that they took off my card for the service call and they said that once someone comes out, they can't refund it but that I have 30 days to make sure that what I was calling about has been corrected and taken care of.
They made arrangements for another gentleman to come out a week later. I cleaned the vent and the other gentleman came out. He went into the back of the machine and pulled the tray out. He said the tray was full and that was what was keeping the machine from breathing and letting the heat out of the back. I cleaned the rest of it out. He gave me the thing to finish taking it out. After he did that, we tested the dryer and it started drying. He put everything back the way it was. He was a gentleman. He was respectable and he didn't talk to me as if I was not the owner of the home. I was satisfied with his work.
But I'm looking to switch and go to another company. I've been with AHS for over 13 years and that was the second time that I have called them to have someone do business with them and I've gotten talked down. Two years ago when we had a bad heat wave, my air conditioner went out. Somebody came out and put Freon in it. The guy said it was not gonna last me long because I was gonna need a new unit. He said I'd be out of Freon before midnight and I was.
The next company they sent, the rep said it was gonna be two weeks before she could send someone out because her customers come before AHS's. I called AHS and told them what she said and gave them her name. They told me to call her and find out what was going on and let them hear the conversation. I did and she said it might be longer than two weeks before they'd be able to come and service. She said she has accounts with her own customers and her cash customers come before accounts. I said, "Are you trying to say American Home Shield customers are last?" and she said, "Pretty much so."
I sat on the phone for a while and the guy from AHS came on the line and told her she will not be doing business with them anymore. I was very sick at that time. I had a rare form of arthritis and I couldn't stay in this house. It was too hot. AHS told me to find someone that could come and I called Air of Carolina. The gentleman came out and told AHS I needed a unit. He gave them the price and he put a unit in. AHS stood by everything that they said they were going to do at that time and I was very happy because I got air even though I had been real sick. But I paid and then they reimbursed me back what I paid.

American Home Shield has so far been great. I did a service request for a garbage disposal, and the guy was able to fix it. He was great. I hadn't used the garbage disposal in over a year, and he said that's what happens. He was here just a few minutes. That worked out really good. I have a washing machine that's going to be delivered as well. That claim was last year, but I kept forgetting about it. They were gonna order parts to have it fixed, but I don't know how they can order parts when there's no model number. When the guy came, he said, "I could tell you it's a 1989 machine. But I can't do nothing because I don't have no model number." So American Home Shield is replacing it.

Recently, I had an issue with my hot water heater. It was not heating like it used to. I also needed a new toilet seat. I put both items on the claim since it costs $125 per call in addition to my monthly payment. A serviceperson came out and looked at my hot water heater. He turned it up a couple of notches then checked out what was going on with my bathroom. I wanted to change out the toilet seat because the bolts had rusted. He changed that out quickly. He had to cut the bolt, which was fine with me because the new seat comes with its own bolts. Then he took pictures of my hot water heater. It has insulation around it. He had to take a piece off the insulation so he could see the name and size of it. It's over 25 years old. He said he was gonna send in the information and recommend that American Home Shield change it out.
I hadn't gotten any call or email or text from anybody. I called the following day. American Home Shield said they would follow up. If they followed up, I didn't get any information. On the third day, I called again. Instead of waiting for the email to come back, they said they would reach out to the serviceperson then they would be able to let me know what the recommendation was. Then I got a call and they said the cost was gonna be $950. I didn't understand what this cost was for and they tried to tell me.
American Home Shield's service calls go through another country. The reps have very heavy accent. I said, "Send me an email because I can't understand what you're trying to explain to me what the cost is covering." That didn't happen. I called A1 Phoenix Plumbing again and they said, "We can't send an email. We're not authorized to do that. You have to call American Home Shield." A1 only tells me the amount, but they don't have the authority to break it down. I wanted it broken down so I could understand what it was I was paying for and why. I got the email back and it says I had to pay for a violation and an earthquake strap which was already on the one that I have. What pissed me off was that they said my water heater was cracked and leaking but it is not either. If it was leaking, the serviceman wouldn't have been able to turn it up higher. I'm not paying $950 for a lie. I am in a quandary right now that I may cancel with American Home Shield. I'm not happy at all.

American Home Shield sends out pissful techs most of the time. When my pool heater needed to be replaced, the first tech they sent out wanted to say the problem was due to owner neglect or the unit being old. He wanted to get the claim declined so he could make a sale on his own for his company. I talked to a couple different American Home Shield representatives and told them I was very dissatisfied and that was not the case with the unit. It just was not working. They offered me the option of paying for a second tech to give a second opinion, and if he agreed to replace it, then we'd be refunded my second charge and they would replace it. That's what happened. The second tech came out, looked at it and said it just wore out. It was not due to neglect. The person was great.
I also had a 1.5 horsepower swimming pool pump done about two weeks ago. The pool contractor came out here and replaced the pump within about a week, but they put a 1 horsepower in. I said, "I'm curious how the guy ordered a pump for my house when he's never been to my house. And he just put what he had sitting on the truck that morning when he showed up." We went round and round about how a pool pump horsepower is configured, and the service factor ratio versus horsepower ratio, and what it equals out to. I said, "Basically, you sold me less pump," 'cause the water on my hot tub was not very fresh. It was poor.
This pump's been here about a week and a half now. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they would talk to the company and send them out again. I said, "You don't need to send them out again. You need to replace the part with what he took off." It should be comparable. I'm still waiting on that. As matter of fact, I left them an email this morning, but I haven't heard anything from them.

He solved my problem super fast. Everybody they send from T Mays is always nice. American Home Shield a little expensive though. I have to pay $100 every time someone comes out here to do anything regardless of what it is they do. For five minutes to unstop a toilet, it shouldn't be $100. American Home Shield has been exemplary except for the plumbing. They allow $1,000 for plumbing issues, and they didn't wanna cover anything with the plumbing. We have cast iron. The cast iron split. Everybody was coming and giving estimates for PVC. They call that an upgrade, so they're not gonna cover it even though that's what everybody does now. The common practice is to replace with PVC, not the cast iron. We didn't get anything out of that claim. That was a big nightmare. Now, they just fixed our garage door. It was beautiful. I called them up and told them the drawer doesn't work. A guy came out, threw the gear in and fixed it. We weren't home and I told them to just open it. He's dealt with us before when we've had another issue with the garage door opener. The technicians work really well. They're friendly and put their shoe stuff on if they have to come inside.

The service has been good, except for one incident we had with our HVAC. In March, we started having trouble with our air conditioner. It wasn't cooling, so American Home Shield kept patching it. They had somebody come out in March, in April, and in May. In June, when this other company came out, they said it's shot and can't be fixed. The parts can't even be bought because this was a 2005 unit. It was built with the house. When we took out the home warranty, we were under the understanding that we were paying for the air conditioner to be replaced if it could not be fixed. However, American Home Shield doesn't do replacements. They just keep band-aiding it until it's totally gone, then it's the homeowner's responsibility.
I have never heard from American Home Shield about the money that they were to reimburse us with, and I don't know if the case is closed. I tried to get through to people and nobody could give me an answer. Somebody's supposed to be calling me back again. Other than that, we haven't had any problems. American Home Shield has been very prompt about getting people out here. When I've called about my ice maker, it was fixed for about two weeks, then the same problems and they're sending somebody out. We had something with our washer as well.

Back in late October, we called American Home Shield because we have a current contract that runs through January 24th with them. At that time, in our bathroom, the tub had stopped up and water would take a long time to run out of it, and both sinks in our bathroom were dripping. So, someone came out and unstopped the tub. On the first visit, they stopped the dripping on one sink. We have double sinks in our bathroom. But with the other sink, each time they came out, they would perform whatever it was they would do in plumbing and as soon as they left, the dripping in this one sink continued. So, we kept calling back. All in all, they came four times. The last plumber that came was the same one that came the third time. He came back, he worked on the sink, and before he left, my husband asked him if he would just wait a while so he could see what the sink was gonna do.
The sink started dripping again and it is still dripping. And when they came the second time, I told the plumber when I would catch water up in the sink, and it had not been doing that. The water would slowly drip out. I wouldn't move the stopper, but it would still drip out. It is still doing that, too. Plus, after the fourth visit, when I turned my sink on, water caught up behind the faucet and that had not been doing that at all. So, they've been trying. What we told the representatives that we've spoken to, each time a plumber has come out, was they have tried fixing this faucet, and at one point, water was coming from the pipe under the faucet. Something needed to be tightened. So, the last plumber that came out did stop that. We had to put a little bucket under it at one point to catch the dripping from the underside.
Now, what is happening is that the dripping that we had initially, at one point, became more of a stream, but right now, it's back to dripping, and it's dripping faster than it ever was before we called them out in the first place. What we've been told is that they would need to get a final report from the vendor so that they could take it to authorization. Several people have told us the same thing, including the person that I spoke with yesterday. She said they were waiting for a report from the vendor so that they could make a decision for authorization for the faucet to be replaced.
This request began in October, and here we are now in the middle of November and it has still not been resolved. We're really kind of floored about this because we've been with American Home Shield for a number of years and we have never had this kind of difficulty over a service call. We don't call all the time. In this case, I'm waiting for a disposition on it. In fact, someone from the plumbing company told my husband on the phone that they've been out four times and they're not coming back, and that they've been out working on the faucet, so the project is completed. My husband said to the lady on the phone, "No, it is not completed because, see, the faucet is still leaking." So, what we need to know is the company's disposition on this.
I spoke with someone at AHS yesterday. She told me the same thing that we had already been told, that they need to get a report from the vendor so that they can pursue authorization. She didn't say exactly what they would do once they got authorization. I even suggested, "Since this vendor has tried and they can't seem to fix it, although they've tried, can you send a different vendor?" I was not given a straight answer to that question. We're kinda left in limbo and it's not a good feeling. Up until now, in all these years, we have been extremely satisfied with AHS. We've maybe once or twice had to do a recall but most of the time, they fixed the problem.
As far as the vendors, they sent a lady and a man on the first visit, sent another guy the second, another guy the third, and then the one that came the third time also came the fourth time. They have been friendly. They have gotten down here. One of them replaced the shower. So, they were trying. We're not questioning the plumbers who came out but the last one saw with his own eyes that after he had done what they did down there, it still was dripping. This one sink was dripping while he was standing there with my husband looking at it after he had done what he did. He contacted his office, and the lady on the phone spoke with my husband and told him, "Well, this is the fourth time they've been there and the service has been completed or the repairs." Also, she said to him, "As long as water is coming out of the sink, as long as you can turn the faucet off and on, it's fixed."
For one, we don't understand. We're talking about possibly replacing a faucet. Now, we understand that it may take several trips to get something like this fixed. In the past, I've taken the whole 12 months to pay off because I did monthly installments. This time, I chose to just pay the whole thing off until January. This contract ends on January 24th. So, the contract has already been paid, but it's beginning to look like we're gonna be out of luck.

American Home Shield is a great service. I had a service for the sink that backed up. Then last Christmas, the heat went out. So, I didn't have any heat for Christmas. The claims process went awesome. I went online, put in my request, and in two days, someone came out. They took care of both items. They explained to me the process and everything went fine and I was back in working condition. The techs were very professional. Both of them explained to me what they found and what they were gonna do to resolve the problem.
The plumber explained to me that the U-shaped pipe is too small underneath the sink so it's easy for it to get clogged up. The distance between the two pipes is small and whoever put the plumbing in, put in a very small U-pipe. So sometimes, you have to put water down it just to force whatever is in there out. He was very professional about explaining that to me. I had a pan of water and he said, "Ma'am, can I pour this water down here because this water will help it too?" He said, "Every now and then, just pour your pan of water down there. And that will help flush out that U-shape because it's so small." I thanked him for the tips. It was awesome service. He was very patient. I couldn't ask for a better service.
This is a very old house and I was so happy to have service. You can imagine on Christmas Day not to have any heat. When the technician came out, he explained everything to me. They send me a little reminder of when to get a service check-up. He said, "Every now and then, you might wanna call in and just get a service check-up so that you don't have a problem on Christmas." He didn't have to go out of his way and explain things to me, and tell me what cords he connected. He even went out of his way to check to make sure it had enough Freon in it, and that it was working properly before he left. So, I was very happy and grateful that they took the time to explain things to me. I renewed my American Home Shield for 2024. So, I'm in good hands. I would recommend them to everyone. I told my neighbors about them.

It depends on where the call is going. I got the name of the contractor and their phone number. When someone came out, he got the thermostat back working but then it happened again after two days. But he was nice about it and he showed me pictures of what was going on. We're still without heat and we're having a major issue. We were told that something had burned up in the thermostat and that the parts were on backorder. Generally, American Home Shield has been good. But it seems there's a little confusion with what's covered and what's not. That aside, we have dependable people that are coming out and servicing us.

AHS has been good, but I could barely understand what some of the customer service reps were saying. The language barrier is bad. I normally call to do my claims. For me, that's easier. I'm a person that likes to talk to somebody rather than do something online. Recently, I had an oven replacement and it was really quick. It was within 10 days. The stovetop wasn't working properly. The repair company that came out could fix it, but it would cost more than the replacement. They would have to rebuild the whole dials section. So, I got a full replacement a couple of days ago.
I had a claim last year with my water heater and that took too long. I already made a complaint about that. I had a bad experience last year, and it kind of pissed me off because there was definitely a language barrier and I was getting all kinds of different information from different people, and it was really annoying. I had some issues initially regarding my AC unit and American Home Shield was just giving me the runaround. I went six weeks without an air conditioner and it was 100-something degrees. It was terrible. The company they sent out was not answering me in a timely manner. But they said that in order for me not to be charged again, I had to go with the exact same company who never got back with me. I wound up having to pay $4,200 to have the unit replaced and they gave me $250 towards it.
Also, the water from the unit ruined my wood floors upstairs. It was an absolute nightmare and I said, from that point on, I was never going to have American Home Shield again. I was going to cancel but I forgot to cancel and I'm glad that I didn't because I wound up having a better experience with my refrigerator claim. The company that came out was very prompt and professional. I was out of a refrigerator for about a week and a half but they kept me updated on the arrival of the part. The only issue that I had with them was they didn't replace these two pieces that go on my light, but he said he would bring them back. I'm waiting to hear back from him. But I didn't get any reimbursement for the groceries lost and I had to go and purchase a freezer so that I could at least have something in the house. I came out of pocket about $600 and that's not including the 150 or 125 that I paid for them to come and do the service.

I like the concept of American Home Shield because I can have a sound mind knowing that I'm not gonna have any of these big bumps in maintenance costs. But on the flip side, when you do have issues, some of the contractors in Chicago primarily are not the greatest because it seems like they're given a set price to come out.
When a guy from Eagle Air came out, he was really good and very knowledgeable. He only fixed what was needed. I've had other contractors to look at the same air conditioning units and it seemed like they were out to charge more, or find just a slight little nuance so it was not covered and then say, "But, hey, I'll fix it for you for $700.” Also, American Home Shield offshores their customer service and the reps don't always get what you're saying, and they just read off of scripts. So I usually have to escalate to a second tier and then those guys typically do a little bit better job. But their first tier customer service isn't always the greatest.
I had a plumber come out when we had a backed up sewer line. They saw that it was a warranty job so they were not gonna make that much money off of it. So instead of sending out their normal crew, they either subcontracted it out or they sent their really newbie guys that didn't know what they're doing. These guys told me that I had a broken main pipe and it was gonna cost $10,000 to $11,000 to dig up the yard, and it wasn't covered. I was watching them do the work, and I've done this same work before, and they didn't have a clue what they were doing. So I told them to get out, and I hired my own plumber.
My plumber charged me $250, and it was fixed within five minutes of arrival. They knew what they were doing. Then I went back to American Home Shield and told them what happened and they refunded the $75 fee. So that was a downside. But then there are pluses. I've had issues with the washer and dryer where they fixed it and it's been fine, which is exactly what I want, and I just pay $75.

It took four days to arrive and then they came out and put the part on. The gentleman was extremely friendly, and seemed well-knowledgeable. He didn't leave a big mess. He explained to us what we were doing wrong as far as the refrigerator was concerned. He was not like the first company that Home Shield sent out took four visits to repair the refrigerator.
The first company was from Rancho Cordova and we asked the American Home Shield rep if there was someone else that they could send out. They were too far from us and that could be the reason why it was gonna take a week and a half for a person to come out. But he told us, "This is all we have. We don't have anyone else." That's not good business if that's the only company that they're using and they cover such a wide area. It's not acceptable to me. Also, American Home Shield's rate went up from $40 to $54. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield from my experiences.
American Home Shield owes us money. When the freezer was going out, we sent in a request. We took pictures and sent in a request for some type of a reimbursement. They told us that they didn't give a reimbursement if we had bad food. I told them, "Well, that's part of what I signed up for." That was what I read in one of their contracts. It was up to $200. There was more than $200 worth of food that had gone bad in the freezer because it started melting. It took four times for the contractor to fix it, which was almost a month. The company that came out brought the wrong part. So they had to deal with the old part and hope that it still had a little life in it, but it didn't. By the time it got to the fourth visit and everything was done, I told them to get out.

They've always been extremely nice. All of the contractors have been fine. Nobody has ever come out to my house that I didn't trust and didn't do a good job. American Home Shield does their best to try and fix the appliance that you have. My experience has been fine. They're able to get somebody out here in a timely fashion. So, I appreciate it. But want to dot all their i’s before they would want to replace anything. Eight years ago, I had an oven that was really, really, really old. But they kept saying that it was fine and it was not overheating. So I ended up replacing it myself. American Home Shield's price has gone up, but it's still fair if you can get somebody out here to fix your appliance or problem. For $75, it’s a good deal.

The dishwasher wasn't dispensing tablet. It wasn't rinsing and drying. It looked like everything just got wet, but it didn't run a cycle. The contractor that American Home Shield sent out supposedly did a repair and then came back. It's dispensing the tablet and washing, but it's not drying. So they came out again. But we'll have to put another call in because it's still not drying.
When I have an issue, I call American Home Shield and request a service. They immediately have me pay the $100 copay and then I have to wait to get notification from whoever they assign it to to come and service it. But it was awful when I had a claim for the refrigerator. The contractor looked at the refrigerator and they said because the refrigerator's compressor was still under warranty, we had to go track down LG to get it repaired. So, we already paid the $100 service fee and then we had to go chase LG down. It took three weeks until they could repair it. We had to keep everything on ice because my husband had medication that had to be refrigerated. We asked to be escalated to a supervisor and the person from American Home Shield said they didn't have a supervisor and that they didn't have to transfer us. It was very annoying, We just wanted a time frame of when someone could be out here. They were pretty, pretty disappointing.
We bought a brand-new LG appliance package, and when the first item had an issue, American Home Shield attempted to service it but they sent out people who couldn't service it. Then they replaced it with a non-LG product. So, now we have three different models of appliances in our stainless steel package. American Home Shield was really snotty and told us, "Read your contract. It doesn't say we have to replace it for the same manufacturer." It just has to meet the criteria. When you call for service, they immediately take your money, but when you call back to try to get the status on a call tag for service, they tell you that you just have to wait. They can't give you any kind of time frame, which is not what you expect from a service provider.

I had a broken spring. I called American Home Shield and got through right away. You can make appointments online but I called and that was easy. I received an email saying the work was assigned to Cactus and that they would be contacting me. I went ahead and contacted Cactus Garage Doors and they were very polite and efficient. They put me on hold, came back, and said, “We see the referral here. Let's get you scheduled.” They scheduled me within 24 hours. The next morning, I had someone out at my house. He was very good. He could tell immediately by looking at the spring that it was broken. So he went to his truck, got a replacement part, put it in, and checked it multiple times. He took care of it.
I had American Home Shield when I was married and now that I'm single, I still continue it. It's very nice for especially a single person. You can rely on the fact that you're gonna get service in a fairly expedited way. There's an ease of comfort knowing that you can get help and that you're not just cold calling companies to please come and fix the problem. I've been very pleased so far. I noticed in one of American Home Shield's recent email advertisements that expanding for homeowners. It's a different coverage and I was pleased to see that. The warranty is it's more expensive now than when I first joined it. But as long as I'm getting expedited and good service, I don't mind. I'm not looking forward to another rate hike, though.

Over the time we've been with American Home Shield, they've replaced our washing machine twice, fixed my dryer about three times, fixed our heat pump about four times, and replaced my dishwasher. They worked on an electrical issue a couple of times. I've had some plumbing things fixed, too. When I had a plumbing issue, they sent a plumber out to my home and I tried to tell them that the water spigot or the bib from outside was leaking, but that wasn't the problem. I knew that wasn't covered under American Home Shield. But the leak was actually from the inside of the house, down in our basement. I tried to tell them that and they kept telling me that it wasn't covered.
A couple of years ago, I got a plumber to check it and he said, "Yeah, you're right. It's not covered. You'll have to pay for this out of pocket." Then somebody come out again this spring and I told them that nobody understood what I was trying to tell them. The plumber looked at it, and he said, "Yeah. Yeah. They won't pay for it. Finally, I did a dispute with American Home Shield. I told them, "You gotta send another plumber out here. What you guys are being told of what is real, it's not true. The leak is coming inside my basement. That's where the fortune of the leak is from." So they sent another plumber out and he said, "Oh, yeah, that's the issue." He fixed it in about 30 minutes. But that was kind of a hassle because I had to deal with the leak for two years whenever I was gonna need my water hose outside.
One time, a contractor came out to fix my air conditioning and they said it hadn't been serviced correctly. But I said, "Well, it has. I've got records of it. And I get it deep-cleaned once every two years and I have to pay for that. It's like $360." It's funny how one person can look at something and say it hasn't been maintained good and the other person says, "Well, it looks fine." So, that's just a matter of opinion, which is kind of frustrating. But overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield. I'm not a handy guy around the house to fix stuff. So, it's perfect for me. If something tears up, I can just call them.

Three years ago, we had an issue and the contractor, Water's Edge, told me that the gas line in my home was too small. This house was built in '92 and they've never had a problem with the gas line. Then, I had a hot water heater go out and they looked at it and said there's nothing wrong with the hot water heater, but the gas line was not big enough to supply the hot water heater. I called Home Shield and they got A-1 Plumbers to come out. They tested the hot water heater and showed that it was default malfunctioning. They replaced it and it's been working fine without having to replace the gas line.

We had flickering lights and then we had lights go out for periods of time. I called the power company here and they said that it was the breaker box switch that needs to be replaced. I looked at American Home Shield and it looked like it was covered so I placed in a service call. The tech from John F. Leslie came out within two days and resolved the issue on one call. He was very good.
AHS's service has gone up in cost over the years like everything but a lot of things that wind up going wrong in the house over time are covered under the program. I have more peace of mind that when something goes wrong, I've already prepaid like a homeowners association. It's there to do the fixing and I don't have to come up with the money unexpectedly. It's a great program and I hope it never goes away. I tell people all the time that they should get AHS if they don't have it and I explain why.

American Home Shield has always been good to me. I've had them so long. The real estate agent transferred the protection over to me when I bought the house back in 2004 when I lived in Montgomery, and I just never let go of it because I always had a pretty good experience with them. Recently, I was outside playing with my son, and I saw some water coming through the outside of my wall. My wife was inside, taking a shower. So, I knew I had a busted pipe inside my wall. I called AHS and they sent somebody over right away.
The guy was here within a couple of days. He was outstanding. He put a clamp on the pipe. I didn't know that it had been leaking for a while. He said that a contractor probably put a nail in the pipe, and it had been spraying just a little bit for quite a while, and then it rusted a little bit and totally blew out the side of the pipe. That was when I noticed it. I came back in when my wife was not taking a shower, and I put my hand on the wall, and my hand caved in with just a little bit of pressure when I touched it.
I've tried to make a homeowners claim for the damage, but I knew that there was an exclusion for a long term damage, so I thought it might get denied. They did deny it. So now I'm gonna have to try to figure out how I can pay for some drywall. I always had a good experience with AHS. It's worth it. I've had that guy fix my pipe here recently, and then they've had other stuff done. I was looking back over my policy when that pipe busted, and it said something about fixing a leaky roof. I broke my neck trying to fix my roof because I didn't realize that that was even in my coverage. I wish I’d known that. So I've had that done. I've had an oven replaced, too.

I recommend American Home Shield. It saved us a bunch of money, and the turnaround time is fast. Our furnace was not working, and the contractor had to change a control panel on our furnace. I went on American Home Shield's website, signed into my account, and requested service through there. I submitted a request Thursday night. So Friday, the contractor called me but they couldn't see me until that Monday. It was crappy timing because it was the end of the week. But it was two to three days before they got out there. The tech came back that next morning. He had to go to the warehouse to get the parts. He lived in Clyde so it was easy for him.

Submitting a claim is a good process. It's just sometimes, I have difficulty with some of the parties that come out. Sears came out one time and although I was saying something was still wrong, they told me that was normal. But recently, I had a claim for the washing machine and they sent a tech from Richard's Appliances who was great. They explained the problem and made sure that everything was working perfectly.
I've also had AHS come out for the microwave, the washer, the dryer, and the garbage disposal. The garbage disposal wasn't covered and I don't understand why. They said that although I have a strainer in there, something got down in there and because of that, they couldn't cover it. But when we took it apart and I had a plumber come and change it, it was actually rusted. For the microwave, they had to order parts and they had to come back multiple times for that. They had to change a couple of circuits. I would recommend AHS but I've had my ups and downs with it and I'm contemplating whether to keep it or not. They just went up on the price and I didn't get any incentive before that unless I bypassed reading that email.

Our dishwasher incident was a nightmare. The contractor couldn't get the part, but we didn't have any communication from American Home Shield. And we kept talking to the contractor who said, "We cannot get the part. And if we can't get the part within 30 days, you should be able to get the dishwasher replaced." That was in the middle of COVID. So we went ahead and bought a dishwasher. My husband installed it. Getting paid back for that dishwasher was where the nightmare came in. But our other incidents were covered and taken care of, like our furnace. And they replaced our hot water heater not long ago and repaired it recently.
Our hot water went out when we had a house full of company. My husband got online and generated a ticket. American Home Shield contacted me and said somebody would get in touch with us to fix our hot water heater. It was quick. But we didn't hear from Race Mechanical Plumbing. So, I called them and I got a voicemail system. I said, "Just wondering what your ETA is." They came not long after that and fixed the hot water heater. They had to turn off the water. They were very pleasant, told us what they would do and how long it would take. Everybody was able to take showers at night. So, that was great. It has been a good experience overall. Sign up with AHS because it has come in handy many times for us.

My experience with AHS has been generally positive. For the most part, the companies that they employ are very trustworthy and do great work. We have multiple sump pumps in our basement and I know nothing about some pumps, but one was making a terrible noise. AHS sent HM Plumbing out and they assessed that our sump pump had gone bad and we needed a new one so they replaced it. This morning, I put in a work order for my dishwasher. The dishes are not coming out clean. I've tried cleaning the dishwasher myself -- put vinegar into the system or clean the filters -- maintenance things that we're supposed to do, but those didn't fix it. I got an immediate response from AHS through the app saying that a company had been allocated. I heard from that company three hours after the initial using of the app and I have an appointment for next week.

Within 24 hours, I got a text message letting me know that my claim was started. I went back to the American Home Shield website and there were details of the claim as far as which company they decided to dispatch out to the job.
A tech came and fixed both of the stopped up drains. There was a very positive interaction. The tech was very knowledgeable about the plumbing and he said he's been doing plumbing for about 20 years. He described to me the actual reason for the stoppage in my front bathroom and how to prevent it moving forward. American Home Shield is a great investment. They also followed up via text and email, which I liked. They came out and went through a few different obstacles on what it could be and figured out the problem. They troubleshot everything and told me recommendations. So, they were good as well.
