I've always been very pleased with what's been going on with American Home Shield. I had someone come out and inspect my furnace system recently. American Home Shield was very helpful. It happened very quickly. The company that they referred to come was prompt and able to do exactly what seemed to work to fix the issue. The repairman looked at my system and saw where there was an area that could have some leaks to it. He went ahead and taped those. He came prepared to replace my furnace filter as well. He took my old furnace filter out with him and took care of it which was very nice.

American Home Shield is a good company. Their response time is good except if it falls on a Friday, I gotta wait all the way until Monday. It depends what day that something broke down. Also, pay monthly instead of yearly because I'm on a fixed income. They went up almost $20. It's crazy. But they're good. It's hard to understand people trying to take the information down. Their dialect is so strong that I couldn't understand what they were saying. So, I just call back until I get somebody that I could understand. I didn't understand the rep for my washing machine either. He was from Poland or someplace. It was a family-owned company that AHS used that I had to wait for two weeks. That was the only bad thing. The last time AHS sent a contractor out was about my filtration in my pool and that was good. Everything's working.
My icemaker and freezer didn't work anymore. AHS replaced it for their $85 service call. I had a bad experience with my washing machine. It took almost two weeks without a washing machine and I'm disabled. It was the company that AHS hired to do it. The guy came out from whoever AHS hired and it took a week to order the part. It was like the brain. When they got it back in, he installed it and the part caught on fire. He installed it and left without checking it. So, I had him come back in, because it smelled. So, he didn't do something right. I had to wait another week. That was the only bad experience I had with them. I referred my friend to them. He just bought a policy from them.

I've had great experience with American Home Shield. I've probably been with them nearly 20 years because of the good experience that I've had. The reps have always been courteous and very helpful. They only ask what appliance it is. And sometimes I feel don't they need more information? Because the contractor could bring the stuff with them and maybe they already have it in their truck. And they seem to be able to have the things that they needed.
I keep telling people how good AHS is, but they got expensive. Some of my friends have said, “You need to try this company or that company,” but AHS has been very good to me, and I'm a very loyal dog so I just stay with them. Things have got more expensive, but I hope I can continue to stay with them. I hope that their prices don't get so high that I can't afford to stay with them. It saves me a lot of money when I have it done. But I pay every month, they got me a new air conditioner unit which would have cost me through the nose. I've been with AHS this long and there may be things that aren't perfect but they do a good job.
When my air conditioner went out, I realized that things don't happen overnight. It would have been nice if it could have, because instead of letting the air conditioner be supplied by the people in town, it had to be shipped in from their supply. And I'm sure they get a great deal where they buy them from because they probably buy in such bulk. It was horrible to have 110 degree weather and to not have an air conditioner. But they did a good job. The guys got here immediately when I called them in, so I appreciated that. It took a while to get it resolved. It was a hard two weeks. But I was so grateful because they bought a new central air, and the unit inside the house.
The stupid GE machine that I got four years ago has given me nothing but trouble. The guys came. It's running better. They're going to put something else in it that they told my sister they would do. They came quickly and got right on it. My most recent one was my washing machine. I also had one that was a shower pipe, the one that goes into the wall. It broke and started squirting water all over. I thought the contractor would have to take the tile out, but they didn't. They were just able to stick a new little piece of pipe in and be gone.
The washing machine, since I know there is more to come, and I'm going to call the company today to see if that's still in the works because I haven't got a call. Maybe they're waiting on parts. The washing machine was siphoning out. As soon as I put the water and, I'd start the clothes going, the water would siphon out, and that would still keep washing in a bit of water that was left on the clothes and everything would get all off balance. It was a real problem. I'm sure that's whatever he would gonna fix that would help that problem.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I've had to use American Home Shield twice for my air conditioner. And I had to use them for my heat. I also had a leak in my roof. So far, they came out and ain't had any problems I had to call and complain about. I called in, told them my problem, what was wrong, and I got an email letting me know what company they assigned to the case. And that would come shortly after. They responded in a timely manner. They came, got the job done, and were gone. My heat and the air was fine. I had no problem once they came out and fixed the problem. When I had the roof done, they had to leave and get some supplies but didn't let me know that they would leave and would come back. But that's okay. They tried to match up the shingles on top of the house. The roof is not leaking anymore.

Bypass American Home Shield all together. My most recent claim was to fix an air conditioning drain pipe which has now fallen off. One of the HVAC things they did was great. But the people that they use aren't vetted. So, whatever the work they do, it wouldn't stay, so it's not valuable work. I always have to call back for them to come back and fix something.
The reps tell me it's okay and the contractor would come back. Or if I said I wanted a refund, they would say, "We'll give you another month," or half a year or something free. When I actually give the complaint, it seems they continue with the same people and they wanna call the same person back to fix the issue, and it would not be a lasting thing.
When they were up where the HVAC system was and it was water damage, and the ceiling where they stepped was a crack. I said, "You all should probably fix that." The tech said, "That comes with the damage so I don't have to fix it." They said that had to be done on another claim, or I would have to call another contractor to do that work. I wouldn't have spent $100 a month on a house warranty that didn't keep their word and have a warranty guarantee that didn't work that was fixable. I ended up having to get outside contractors and that made me have to pay double, if not triple.

The reps were always positive. But I usually submit my claims online. So I usually don't talk to anybody. But when I do, they're always really nice. They get someone out here quickly and take care of the issue. It was very easy to submit the claim when our vent hood wasn't working. The first contractor was unable to fix it. So they had to send out a different contractor and it was fine. It's been working just great. American Home Shield is worth the money. They've gotten better over the past couple of years. They've been more willing to get things replaced if they need to be replaced.

My AC wasn't cooling enough during the summer. I called AHS and someone came to look at it and took care of it. The techs that AHS sent have always been very professional and they get the job done if they can. If they can't, they'll let us know. AHS has been a good source of insurance for me. I'm on a fixed income. When I call, they take whatever amount they're going to take and if the appliance could be done inside the house, it's done. It's better for me because a lot of times, I wouldn't be able to afford to have things repaired if I didn't have AHS. However, their rate keeps going up. When I first started, it was $35. For now, it's $100.

NOTHING is covered. It's a waste of money per month, then another $125.00 per denied claim. Go with another company if you have to have a home warranty. The companies they send out are less than professional and try to sell you their services on the side for things you DO NOT even need (for example, I was quoted 4K for pool heater repairs...I don't even HAVE a pool heater...the company was called out to look at a filter leak!).

Sending unqualified after unqualified contractor to my house to verify that yes the refrigerator is broken however they are not able to fix it. Customer "service" is absolutely useless, talking in circles with no one who actually is willing to find a resolution. Don't bother escalating to management because they won't help you either.

My recent experience with AHS Home Warranty has been incredibly frustrating. It all began on November 25th, 2023, when I requested service for a microwave repair. AHS promptly assigned a contractor who assessed the situation and determined that a part needed to be ordered. However, since then, it has been an uphill battle trying to get any resolution.
Despite numerous attempts to communicate with both the contractor and AHS, there has been no progress. I reached out to AHS via chat on January 18th, 2024, and was assured they would follow up with the contractor. Unfortunately, no action was taken. Feeling increasingly exasperated, I contacted AHS again on January 30th, where they promised to initiate a process to pay for a replacement. Once more, these were empty promises as nothing was done.
In a final attempt to resolve the issue, I spoke with AHS once more on February 7th, only to be met with further disappointment. It seems that despite their assurances, they have made no effort to rectify the situation. Overall, my experience with AHS Home Warranty has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. Their lack of communication, failure to follow through on promises, and inability to provide timely service have left me extremely dissatisfied. I strongly advise against using their services.

I had an issue with my filter in the basement. I had it looked at, and thought the issue was the water pressure sensor. The contractor checked the water pressure sensors and let me know that everything was working well there and just gave me a suggestion to try to replace the filter. I did that and it was clear. I also had a stove top fan that making weird sounds and an oven that wasn't working. The technician came in and let me know what was going on and what needed to be done. He said [there were no parts for my items because of the type and/or age. So I'm waiting on Home Shield to contact me back about trying to replace them.

I was referred by my ex boss and the agent said that seeing I was referred that my ex boss and myself would receive a 25.00 Amazon Gift Card. Well the agent looked up my boss' wife because their account is in her name. The agent said that after my first month's payment we would receive the gift cards. Well we never received the cards. I talked to AHS and they are making it difficult to get the cards. They looked up the information before but now they don't want to do that and I don't want to ask my ex boss about his wife's personal information. And one other thing. I had to file a claim because of my hot water tank blew a leak one night. Their in network plumber provider said it would be 2 weeks before they could come out and they don't do 24 hour emergency service. I missed work because I have to find my own plumber and pay them myself and wait to be reimbursed. I went with AHS because they are supposed to be the best, but I don't see it.

The sewer line was leaking and I wanted to see someone coming in and inspecting it. American Home Shield sent an inspector. So he came in and looked at it, but he did nothing. He told me what he couldn't do, and then left. Then I was still charged the $100. My home has a slab foundation and they needed to get underneath the home by digging and he did not offer those services.
When my laundry machine broke and I submitted the claim, the contractor came over and fixed all my laundry appliances. So American Home Shield did good on that part and they rectified everything. Everything went very smoothly on that aspect. That was a $600 machine I was gonna have to replace or, at the minimum, a couple of hundred dollars of repair costs. But American Home Shield was able to come in and fix it up with no issue.
Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. I like the services. With the coverage that I have, I get one year of AC maintenance. So once summer comes around, I'll be having them come over and take a look at the maintenance on my HVAC. I also like the fact that I get some special deals on carpet cleaning, which I'll be doing once the weather gets warmer. So a lot of coverage is very nice and it seems to work out very well. It's a worthwhile investment. They're fair and they honor their services.

I hate American Home Shield. They're the worst company ever. When I had a claim for a double oven, trying to get anybody to talk to me in English was hard and I couldn't understand anybody who talked to me. Then, they had a tech who called and asked me what the problem was. I told him what the error code was and he said they had to order a part. Then I had to wait for six months for the part to come in, and that wasn't the right thing. American Home Shield then charged me $100 for that visit that they didn't even come out for. Then they said they'd send me a certain amount of money because they were not going to come out and fix it. So I ended up ordering the part myself and trying to fix my oven that way.
It was a fight every step of the way with AHS. It was like I was getting pushed from one source or portion of the company to another, which was out of the country. So I will never give them any type of a good review. As a matter of fact, I'd tell anybody to go to anybody else but American Home Shield. And from my experience of the people I've talked to, they ran into the same thing.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I'm satisfied with the service that American Home Shield provides. I did several requests. I went online and submitted my request and AHS would respond immediately. I would have a response in less than two minutes in my email. They inform me who would be the contractor, who would perform the service during that time. Also, they provided the phone number for that. And usually, I would call them and wait for them to call me because they're so busy. They could take forever. I prefer the customer would call them immediately after they get the contact or phone number and make the arrangement for the service.
Sometimes we are not completely satisfied because of the contractors. My last one was a stoppage in my drainage. I talked directly to the company and said, "It's a Friday. I have a stoppage in my house in the drainage and I can't wait until Monday." Because they said their only available day was Monday. I requested if they could come sooner. The lady who took my phone call said, "Yes. I'm gonna let you know." They called me, and said, "They're gonna be after 5:00 at your house." And they came the same day.

American Home Shield has worked out well for me. When I had it for the house in Del Rio, that was a pain because they couldn't find anybody to do the work. I was renting out of my house and I couldn't get somebody to fix the air conditioner problem in time. So, I wound up having to pay hotel expenses for somebody because it took too long to get somebody to fix it. Contrast to that, somebody in the Dallas area, that's easy. So, it's more the industry challenge with the location.

I'm just here for the service of the furnace." We turned around, called American Home Shield, explained what he said and that we needed to figure out what was wrong with our system. Carlos Kata Appliance was not good. Carlos charged me $175 cleaning fee, and I've never ever had anybody from American Home Shield charge me for something that I don't believe that it should have been charged for. He fixed the dryer but it doesn't dry nearly as well as it used to. I'm having to run things three times to get them dry. Before, it would take 15 minutes. Now, it's taking 45 minutes for the dryer to dry things. I looked on the invoice of the parts that were ordered from American Home Shield for the dryer. The belt was supposed to have been replaced. It's a couple other things there. But the only thing he took out was the heating unit for the dryer. I don't believe that he replaced all the parts that were provided to him.
When the microwave went out, he came out. He replaced the fuse in it. The next week, it went out again. I called American Home Shield and said, "I'm not having my microwave go out constantly. Just come and replace it." They did. It was a different guy that came out and replaced it. Carlos Kata Appliance is my only bad experience with American Home Shield and I will let them know not to send him back out to my house.
Other than that, I've had great luck with American Home Shield. They've worked on many of my appliances. They've also gotten better than they were. I've recommended them to my sister and my cousin. We’re all very happy with them. Recently, you don't even talk to anybody. It's all automated, which sometimes is better because a lot of times you get on hold, and you might be on hold for 20 minutes. But with this new automated way they're doing things, it seems to go well. They ask you what appliance, the serial number and model number. From there, they dispatch it out to a contractor. They're very prompt, letting me know that the contractor had picked up the call and they'd be reaching out. The cost seems to go up every year though. That's a little disappointing. But it pays for itself if you have to have any major work done. I've had a couple of times that I've had to have things replaced, like my washing machine. I paid for my whole yearly rate just on that washing machine.

The indoor handler evacuation system was clogged with normal wear sludge. The technician vacated the exhaust port on the outside to clear it out and once the water was evacuated, everything was running well. The technician provided a regiment so that this was something that could be prevented with continual maintenance and checks, which we took note of and began servicing ourselves. I had to buy a vacuum and also, our indoor handler is an older unit so accessibility is an issue because the water collection reservoir is at an acute angle or an angle that doesn't afford a lot of space to access. The routine maintenance, evacuation and purchasing supplies out of pocket come with home ownership so we took on that responsibility. But I asked questions and the technician was able to provide a response, which I'm grateful for.
The process is simple enough that we file all our claims through the portal and each one seems to receive a rapid response. The appointed service technicians that Home Shield selects or outsources are relatively satisfactory. The water heater claim was a little bit of a nuisance and our fix was delayed. It wasn’t memorable as a good experience. But at the end of the day, it was installed. Other than that, we've been satisfied with AHS. I'd like to know how they select and vet the outsourcing of the services to provide to the clients if it's a service cost issue, commission-based or just by reviews of clients or by word-of-mouth. I'm sure there's a process for selecting who gets sent out their service.

I prefer to phone in when scheduling a service call because online, it's likely to get screwed up. The claims reps do their job and that’s all I need. I like it best that I don't need to know a plumber, an electrician, a carpenter and I don't need to have a particular company in mind. I can contact American Home Shield and depend on them to know somebody. Some contractors are not good though. I needed a plumber a couple of years ago and AHS did not relay the correct information to the plumber or at least the plumbers said they haven't. They came here and wanted payment again even though I had already paid electronically. The back and forth was frustrating. Also, AHS is a little expensive.

Also, usually American Home Shield charges a service call of $75, but this time they charged me $100. I told them I was not aware of that and that was not good. On top of that, they got together with the technician. They would send to cheaper people to the customer and they have a very bad experience. They know what American Home Shield needs to decline covering a service, so they're going to tell you that the issue is this and that. Then they're going to pass the report to American Home Shield and American Home Shield is going to say they're not going to cover it.
Aside from that, I experience bargaining since I knew the cost being charged by the contractor was not going along with the prices. Then, when I needed a second opinion, the second techs found the problem and AHS covered the repair. So that means the American Home Shield tried to deny the claim, then we had to go through paying for another month, and get another technician to prove to them that the problem was still there. Sometime the problem is there for three months. So I canceled AHS in one of the properties I had under them. I have another property with them but I’m going to cancel that one too very soon. Their service was good before, but now it's not. I would also tell my friends not to go through them. There's another company with free service call and the policy costs half their price.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

American Home Shield had a fair price. However, the last year, they have gone up substantially - over 30%. My mortgage company offered me a discount through them. One or two times, I got pushed around. They were saying, "You gotta wait until your renewal contract is over." I'm not aware of it until two or three months later. Then I gotta go back through the same process again. I'm in the market now to change over to someone else because of the price of the monthly fee and the service fee as well.
Most of the contractors suck. They'd write up that the claim doesn't fit the contract, so they could milk you out of more money. For the garbage disposal, the gentleman said that he opened it up and there were some grapes in it. He said that was what clogged it up. I brought in someone else who said the motor was bad. For the toilet, they told me it needed to be repaired. They were gonna charge me $1,200 to replace two toilets, but I didn't have to replace any of them.

The contractor was able to resolve my plumbing issue quickly. They had great customer service. They came here and spent a couple of hours. They explained what they were doing and finished the job in a timely manner. American Home Shield is awesome. It's very affordable, and it pays off. I usually request the service over the phone. I find it easier. I usually like using web service. It's easier and convenient. But I couldn't begin to submitting online. Sometimes, it's a little tricky to find what you're looking for. This company is basically a legal scamming company. They take your money in exchange for offering up only ONE STAR businesses they assign to do any work you put in service requests for. You pay $150 for each service request for these one star crappy businesses as well! Some reviews are so bad, they said they didn't even want to leave one star and wish they could leave NEGATIVE STARS! AHS doesn't seem to care either, and all they say is that reviews are "subjective" even when thousands upon thousands of people are leaving these reviews.
I was 30 days in when I figured this out and cancelled, and then they withheld one month from my refund and also tacked on a "cancellation fee" which was about the cost of one month as well. So they basically robbed me $156 for NOTHING. BEWARE AND DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! My friend is a plumber and told me that he's been cleaning up AHS messes for the past thirty years!!!! Again, AHS doesn't seem to care what true professional honestly say about them.

At first, American Home Shield’s service was phenomenal. But lately, I’ve had some problems. It's almost pointless to have a home warranty because you're paying your deductible for them to come out and then if you would just hire another company, you're gonna pay hundreds of dollars cheaper than American Home Shield.
I had a filter which sends electrical pulses through the water. The contractor said it was under the warranty but they didn't wanna take care of it while they were here. I called back about a week and a half later and they came out and said that they would not honor the warranty because it had lapsed this month. So, they knew that it was gonna lapse if they didn't do it right then. I haven't canceled AHS just in case. But lately, I've had some things happen that I've just been going straight to a handyman. Overall, AHS means well. It's who is being hired out to do the work. The people they hire are shoddy. They all know that they're working for a home warranty company at the time when they arrive at my house. So, I'm paying the home warranty stuff but then they upcharge with extras when they're here all the time. They know what they're doing. Here in Vegas, if the job is $200, they're trying to charge you $1,000 and they think everybody doesn't know.

A contractor set up an appointment when I had a dryer that broke. The drum wouldn't rotate. They had to order parts. It was an unpleasant experience. I ended up calling American Home Shield to ask what was going on after the technician had come out to the house. They told me about the 24 weeks turnaround time. I told them it was not an option for us to wait for a part for 24 weeks. I had the option of cashing out. They gave me a certain dollar value. What they've done in the past is I'd get a voucher through email for Lowe's. I could scan that on my phone and purchase something. I was hoping to do something like that for a dryer but was told no. I got a new dryer and they were supposed to send the check but the check still hasn't come.
It would be awesome if American Home Shield came in an app. They have different call centers throughout the United States and different countries. Sometimes they operate differently in each location. The person that I spoke to when I said I wanted to cash out said, "You'll receive a check for $306 within 17 to 21 business days." I was expecting it. I didn't see it by the middle of January so I called again. They said, "If you don't see it within the next couple days then call us back." I didn't see it so I called them back. There was some type of approval process that they didn't complete that prevented that check from being released. The person guaranteed me that it's in the mail. Now I have to wait 17 to 21 business days. I bought the dryer on December 5th.
When I'm speaking to a customer service rep that's not outsourced, it's fine. They're courteous. They understand if there's frustration. As I was trying to figure out what was going on with this last service contract, why I hadn't received payment up to that point, I had asked them to cancel my account months prior. They said, "Don't cancel your account because if you don't get your check, then the whole process is gonna be messed up and you might not be able to get your payment." But I didn't get the check.
In the meantime, I had two more premium payments that came out. I told customer service that I want my premium payments back. Unfortunately, the reps are outsourced. When they're outsourced to another country, sometimes there are things that they can do customer service-wise and things that they're not allowed to do. After I had my last frustrating phone call with American Home Shield and told them that I wanted talk to someone, I ended up talking to a customer service rep here. The person I spoke to was awesome. She gave me everything that I wanted. But I was disappointed that I had to go through so many phone calls to make that happen.
It's a lot of work on my part to make sure that things are taken care of correctly. I've got one part that's sitting in my attic that I paid for that I couldn't return because they had sent out a technician at one point that couldn't do the work. Lo and behold, it took me 20 minutes to do it on my own once I went out and purchased the part because the part that came in was the wrong part. We were renting the house out, so we couldn't watch over the technician. If you want it done right, it helps if you're there.
It's always exhausting working with American Home Shield. If I only do one service call for a year, it's not worth the $150 that I pay per month. If you have an air handler and AC unit that go out, then American Home Shield is awesome, assuming they can cover what they need. They've replaced my HVAC in its entirety. But if there's something that comes up that's gonna cost you a couple of $1,000, American Home Shield is not worth it. I may be better off using something local. It takes a lot of time for someone to come to our home because of where we're located. There's not a lot of American Home Shield contractors. There are American Home Shield contractors that will cover our area, but they come from Atlanta and Jacksonville two to three times a week. You have to catch them when they're in town. Usually, you're at least a three-day wait once you talked to the technician because they've already got a full plate when they call you.

The service with American Home Shield was good up until I had an issue with my hot water heater. I had to wait for over a month before I can get anything done, and then I had to pay out of pocket myself. They reimbursed the money for the hot water heater, but they did not reimburse for having it put in. I had used Roto-Rooter to put it in. They're on the do-not-use list, but they were the only one that could put it in. So, I didn't get that $500 back. Other than that, they did the services in a timely manner except for the hot water heater. It took way too long and then I got the run around for a good little bit for about two weeks before I could even get some answers on it.

American Home Shield has a decent service. The problem is that, overall, when you make a request for service, most of the time, you do it online. And when you do it online, they assign you a person to come out, depending on what it is. They assign it through their system, and their system doesn't take into account where you live. If you live in one city in Oklahoma, you could get a person to come out and service your equipment from three cities away as opposed to picking somebody that's within your own city. I've had a person come out that's 100 miles away from where I live, which doesn't make sense when there are people that are within 10 to 20 miles from where I live. But with the way their system is set up, they just take the next one on the list.
I kind of broke the code on that, and now I call them directly. You can dictate where they go and who they get. I think that's a major flaw in their system, and I don't know if they really do a good job of evaluating the contractors that they use. I’ve been ripped off. I used them for an AC unit. When it's 100 degrees outside, you need your AC unit fixed. I had a contractor come out that was 100 miles away and put Freon in my system and said, “Oh, you're just low on Freon.” Most people don't know, but Freon just doesn't leave your system unless there's a leak. The guy charged me an astronomical bill because American Home Shield only pays for it so much, and it's a really small amount. Then the following season, I needed more Freon, and that's because the first person did not check for leaks.
I lost all the Freon and I got this astronomical bill that I had to pay, because it's summertime and you need AC. It was like, “Just fix the problem.” Freon’s not cheap. American Home Shield pays $10 per gallon. And at the time, I was being charged $40 a gallon. It's a lot. So, the contractor ripped me off. It was a year later, and their warranty is only up to a year, so I lost all that money. Then I had to call somebody else out to come and fix the problem that the first guy didn't fix. So, AHS could do a better job at vetting the contractors that they use.
They have good customer service. I just don't think that their customer service is based in the United States. They're more than willing to help, but it's just a matter of understanding specifically what I might be asking or understanding what they are actually telling me. Has it prevented me from getting service? No. There is just a slight barrier there. Overall, I can make an appointment, I can get a contractor to come out, and the process works. Everything works according to plan. The overall areas that they cover is adequate.

Our washing machine wouldn’t fill with water, so we called American Home Shield and they sent out a repairman who thought that he could repair it and ordered a part, and the part did not work. That took a week, and then he ordered another part and it was not the correct part. So, we were without our washing machine for over a month. We ended up with a new washing machine. We got a discount on it. Our washer was 11 years old when we started having problems with it. 11 years ago, it was top line, so we wanted something that was comparable to that washing machine. We had to add some money to the purchase because what they offered wasn't quite what we were used to.
One thing that American Home Shield could have improved on was after the second part didn't work, it would have been nice if they would have said, “Listen. You need a new washing machine.” Because then we would have only been without it for two weeks instead of four weeks. We're on a limited income because we're both retired, so I was just handwashing all of our clothes during that time because I didn't wanna have to spend money at a laundromat. Overall, we've had to call AHS several times. The response time was good except when your air conditioner breaks down, then you want a quick response time. Other than that, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield.

I sent in a claim for a problem with our hot tub and it went terribly. We've had an issue with our hot tub before, which was resolved. When this issue came up, I submitted a request to have it looked at. It was approved. Then someone came out and looked at it. They got back to American Home Shield with an estimate but then American Home Shield declined it. When I was finally able to speak to somebody, they said, “Oh, your policy doesn't cover a hot tub.” I told them, “Excuse me. You just repaired my hot tub three months ago. The policy just renewed as exactly the same as it had been previously.” They said, “No. Sorry. You're not covered. Hot tub isn't covered.” I don't know what happened. So I asked to escalate it. It was escalated. But the person didn't even speak to us. it was just an email saying, “No. Hot tubs aren't covered in your policy. Sorry.”
Luckily, our real estate agent who sold us the house, they have contact with a local American Home Shield rep. So we contacted him. He had to contact that person who then got back to us and apologized and said, “Oh, no. It is covered. I don't know what happened. Let me send you a new copy of your contract,” which was the same as it's always been. Once that was done, it was approved and then taken care of. It took about a month and a half.

We had a few claims with American Home Shield. One of them was the air vent return in my house. There's an air vent return in all the homes for the HVAC. It's a kind of a metal rack and behind that is a filter that you're supposed to change every three to six months. The hinge of it started coming loose. So, I called that in. They denied the claim and they said it was because of excessive use. We hardly touch it. We only touch it once every three to six months, and it's not something that you can snag on because it's on the ceiling. The spot weld came undone. I was very unhappy that they denied it. I've had American Home Shield for 15 years. I've been a loyal customer to them, but they've really changed over the years. They pushed back on everything. I'm very disappointed with them recently. Overall, we don't use them that much, and they've raised the premiums. They charge a lot more. It's not the same thing anymore.

My experience with American Home Shield has been very nice. The contractors that they hired were very on top of my needs. I had issues with my AC. They called me and gave me details like, "We're here. We're close." They fixed the issues. They were not sure if one of the parts they replaced was covered. I had some issues because I had a baby, and they called AHS and they got the answer right away and they fixed the issues right away. So, I'm happy.
As far as the claim process, the person that I spoke to was not that friendly. He said, "Well, you have to wait, we call you." "Yes, I know. But listen, that's an emergency. I've been without AC the entire night and I had a baby. On top of this, my mom has some health issues." The guy was not flexible. He was like, "But you gotta wait. We're gonna call you. Our experience with American Home Shield was not good. They're always sending someone out, and when they get here is when AHS tells us that they do not cover what is wrong with our thing. It's been several times they've come out and they have done that. We've had to fight to get the service call money back. We've been with AHS for at least 20 years. In fact, we started with them when they didn't charge a service call. We just paid a flat rate. But over the years, they've changed. Some of the companies that represent American Home Shield are very good and very friendly and work with us well. Others just come and say, “We can't take care of that. Forget it.”
One of our claims was for an air conditioner, and it was during the hottest time of the year. They told us there was a part that was out, and they had to get us another part, which was fine, but it would be reconditioned, and it would be at least six weeks until we got it in 115-degree weather. No. What we did was we just bought new air conditioners. In the past, AHS was very good, but they got too big and too cocky. They don't cover or take care of things the way they used to in the past.

I've been with AHS for quite a while with two houses and I appreciate the fact that they're available and that they now seem to have people that you can understand a little better. When we were trying to make sure the house could cool down, we submitted a claim for a ceiling fan. I thought that would be a heating and cooling issue but the reps at AHS told us it was electric.
The other issue we had was when we started noticing that there was condensation inside of our dryer when we ran it. It would be wet inside the drum and inside where you empty your lint. And that was a first. So we thought it had something to do with heating and cooling. The other thing that made us think it was heating and cooling was because we had a ceiling leak and coming out of the ceiling was a frozen drop of water. So we were trying to figure out where did that come from. We were also told that there were pipes that were dripping that are inside our downstairs basement area.
So we called the heating and cooling folks and the first guy that came out was saying that the filter needed changed. But I told him that we just changed that three months ago. And it could be that it was dirty again, but it wasn't due to be changed until November and he had come out earlier. That was when they sent the senior person and she was very thorough. She seemed like she knew her stuff and she answered all my questions. We ended up thinking that maybe it was related to one of our washer and dryers upstairs. But it was a wasted $75 because we were told that it wasn't a heating-cooling issue. So that could be a problem when you're a homeowner and you don't really know. When you go through American Home Shield, you have to select what service you need.
Other than that, we've been with the heating and cooling company for years and I really like them and the service that they provide. It just happened to be that they weren't able to help us. But at that particular time, AHS sent techs to do a free service check on our AC and everything was okay as far as the unit itself and how it was functioning. But we also had to pay the $75 to have them come out and take a look in the ceiling. That contactor, First Response, has always been prompt and they try to get us in their schedule. They've worked really well with American Home Shield and I appreciate the people that they hire. They always take care of us really well.
All in all, even though we may have had some glitches along the way in our other house, we were very pleased with how things were resolved thru AHS, even if we had to step it up or make a complaint about something. I don't think I'd go with another warranty company. American Home Shield is legitimate and I would stick with them.

The AC stopped cooling in June and American Home Shield sent a company out. Whatever they did, it didn’t work. My utility bill went from $200 a month to $800 for two months. I found out the AC wasn't working and they had put my unit in emergency mode. The unit had been in that mode for two months and it is still gonna try to come on, but it's not gonna come on. The compressor was pulling all the electricity, which was how I initially found out the unit was bad. Then when AHS sent the other guy out, it was even worse.
When I asked AHS about replacing the AC, they told me it was at cost for them, which was $8,000. They were saying it was cheap because they could get it at cost and give it back to us at cost. But a local company was gonna replace it for cheaper than they could do it. I opted out to pay. They replaced the compressor on it which is the life of the AC unit when they should have replaced it a long time ago. I had a problem with this AC unit every year and AHS didn't want to do anything but put a capacitor on it. They would throw parts at it. The customer service sucked too because you got so many people who don’t know they’re giving out the wrong information. One service rep will give out something and other service reps will give out something else. I've been a customer for over five years and I'm gonna call AHS as soon as I get back. I’m going to cancel and get somebody else.

I have two air conditioning units, and so I had different contractors for each unit, which was kind of a little bit of a pain in the butt. But both of the contractors were exceptionally well. I need a new unit. The repairperson recommended it to be replaced, but Home Shield denied that and said, "No, just repair it." They keep preparing it. Every year they have to repair it.

American Home Shield replaced my washing machine and the people who delivered it refused to hook it up. I had another problem where there was a leak outside. Initially, we thought it was a slab leak and nobody told me what was going on as far as American Home Shield's side. The only way I found out that American Home Shield was not gonna cover it was because I personally called the plumber and he said, "Oh, American Home Shield is not gonna cover this. They didn't tell you?" I told him no, they didn't. So sometimes they lack communication. Some of their customer service reps are not native English speakers, so sometimes there is a language barrier. But overall, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. It's saved my butt. I've had thousands of dollars worth of repairs that needed to be done all in the course of a matter of months and without American Home Shield, I wouldn't have been able to afford those repairs.

I had a claim for the AC unit that American Home Shield had people come back and patch it up more than five times. I had to wait on them. I had a big problem and I ended up getting it done myself. American Home Shield just kept sending somebody to repair the same unit. Every time they sent somebody, they didn't repair it right. They’d repair it enough where it would work for a few months. Then I would call and tell them that the unit was not working. So, then they’d just send somebody else and the other company did the same thing instead of just repairing the unit. I started to have to put a bunch of money myself to help repair the unit for the Freon. I had to do that several times, so I got tired of fooling with them at that time.

I got a claim in now for my garage door opener. American Home Shield sent a company out here. But the company dropped the ball. They sent a man out here and diagnosed the problem. But he didn't send them the information they needed to send to American Home Shield. Then some other stuff happened on their end. Eventually, I got so tired of them. I called American Home Shield and they decided to send another person out to check and see what the problem is. I'm still having some issues to this day. Except for this last claim, the vendors that came out were perfect. They were professional and they did what they were supposed to do.

American Home Shield has been diligent enough to send individuals out to repair whatever the issue is. I have an issue with my heating and air that sometimes would show up and sometimes wouldn't. The contractor, 3D Hoover Services, is trying to catch it at a time when it's doing what we say it's doing and American Home Shield is on it to send them out when I need to have them to come back.
I'm well satisfied with the coverage but I wish there were some other things it would cover. I find that it's some small things. For example, it will cover my stove and oven, but it won't cover the cooktop. It would be good if they would just cover all the electrical parts because all of it comes together pretty much. Other than that, they cover pretty much everything that's within the house that you get.

I've had to fight for everything to be replaced by American Home Shield and it's a constant battle. Some of the people that they hire to come out would say, "Oh, it was because the owner jacked it up or something." I had a claim for my pool and they said that that we were using too many chemicals, so they weren't gonna pay for something. The person that came out didn't tell us that. I asked for a second opinion so another guy came out. Also, I contacted our local news station. They had somebody contact me from American Home Shield and said what happened. I ended up winning that and they replaced it.
Another tech for the pool tried to upsell me on a new equipment that could have been an inexpensive fix. My husband and I ended up going to our local pool company, bought the products ourselves, and fixed it within 20 minutes. I've been with American Home Shield for at least 15 years and most of the people genuinely know what they're doing, but there's always that few. 60% of the time, they have great people come out here and 40% of the time, I have to fight for them to fix it.

American Home Shield is good at sending out people for service calls. But their prices are way too high. My hot water heater went out and they only paid for half. We argued and appealed and it was to no avail. I had an 80-gallon tank to begin with and they made me get a 50-gallon tank, which in my house was difficult to do. They wouldn't put the same model that was in there and they didn't pay for the additional features that I needed to bring the water heater up to code. I had to pay $800 out of pocket in addition to the service fee of $125. It was a nightmare.
Last year, my water faucet was leaking and the contractor came out. The guy told me he had to order a part, which I completely understand, but I had to wait almost two months for it. So, I asked American Home Shield to just let me buy another one and have them install it. They said they couldn’t do that. I told them to just take off of what they were gonna pay for this one and deduct it from the amount of the new one and I'll pay them the rest. They said they can’t do that and I gotta wait for the part. And the last contractor that came out to fix the water faucet was very rude and I called American Home Shield and told them. They said they would look into it. I've been with them for three years now and I'm canceling this year. They gave me two free months but I'm still gonna cancel.

Our furnace died and we called American Home Shield and it took about a week to get the first person to come out. The guy submitted what he needed. AHS said they talked to the contractor, and the contractor said AHS never contacted him. The guy was ready to go and so were we. But it takes two weeks for approval to do this. I was calling AHS every day and it was like they keep all the departments independent of each other so they don't know what’s going on with anybody else, and they can't cross over to find out what's going on, so it makes it harder for the consumer to get anywhere.
In the third week, AHS wanted to have another company come out. We had someone come out too on our own before that. We paid for the first guy and we have a third opinion after three weeks of farting around. So, we couldn’t take it anymore. We were freezing our butts off. That was the coldest time here, for whatever reason. So, we ended up canceling American Home Shield. We took out a loan and hired the guy who was all set to go and we had it done in a day. I will never, ever go with AHS again. They've gone so far downhill, it's not funny, especially for how much they're charging now. You shouldn't have to battle like that for heat. For a lot of people in a lot of areas in the country, it’s life or death. You fart around and screw around with people for three weeks. That should be illegal.
I started with AHS in 1999 when we were in Oregon and used them when we owned a house in South Dakota. Then when we moved down here. Now, they're just as bad as everybody else. They used to be wonderful. Their rates were good as well as their customer service. Now, 99.9% of their customer service is in India and it’s not their fault that it's hard for us to understand or if they can't comprehend something we say. There's a language barrier there, regardless if they're bilingual or not. They have very limited guidelines for how they operate. Their hands are tied on a lot of things and they're not given phone numbers to be able to call. What's sad now is AHS has an office right here in Carroll, which is only a town away from us, and they have such horrible service, that it’s embarrassing. I'd recommend them to friends and family all the time. But now, there’s no way will I ever recommend them again.

Not all the contractors have been great but American Home Shield has supplied other people to finish the job that the other people didn’t complete correctly. So, AHS has been good for us. The technicians themselves have been fine.
The only issue we had was with a company called Titan. Their technician only did half the work order because he was only given a partial work order and when we attempted to reschedule them to get the other part of the work order completed, they told us that they were not going to come out to our property anymore. The manager didn't like that I asked them to complete the work order so they blacklisted us. But in response, American Home Shield sent out Lowe's and the technician completed the job. He was great and everything's been fine since then. The repair couldn’t be made because the part was unavailable. So they replaced the appliance.

However, they don't give you enough money to buy a 2023 or 2024 piece of appliance because they're a lot more expensive. But the amount of money they give you is better than nothing. It seems on the last item that they replaced, I didn't get enough money to satisfy me. But I'm not mad about it. I'm going on and I am not giving up on AHS. I'm very well-satisfied with them. My most recent claim was for an above-stove microwave that was not heating any longer. I submitted it through the online account and it was very easy. It let me schedule a time, but then I received a call from the contractor the next day also asking me to schedule a time. It was a little confusing. But they just had me verify all the information. It asked for the model and serial number when I did the claim, but apparently, the contractor didn't get that information. I had to provide it again to them, which was fine. Then we scheduled a time and then they came out a couple of weeks later. The tech did a very good job. He seemed very knowledgeable and he was very quick. He knew what he was doing and he was done within 45 minutes. He left me his card if I had any questions and told me what to expect. He said I shouldn't have any issues with it, but to get ahold of him if I did.
The plan that I have with AHS covers a lot and I like the fact that there's one deductible that I have to pay per claim. I had a claim for an icemaker in my refrigerator that was broken and they couldn't fix it. It took a couple of months over several visits and they ended up replacing it. I got a refrigerator that's as good as the one I originally had. I really appreciated the quality of what I got out of it. I did get frustrated by having to follow up on the claim several times. But I was happy with the end result and that's really what was important. The warranty is worth the monthly premium that I pay to have the peace of mind knowing that if anything does go wrong, it'll be covered and fixed and if it's not fixed, it'll be replaced.

The contractor ordered the wrong parts, so the stove still wasn't working correctly. I just let it go. I paid another service fee to get somebody else out there. That was when he said something about the parts they replaced it with weren't the correct parts. And it did more damage than it did good. He put in for me a new stove.
Sometimes though you might not get a qualified contractor. Also, if you get a contractor and you give some feedback on them, I don't know if anybody ever takes it into consideration. But I like the convenience of AHS. We've had more good episodes than bad. They also have gotten much better. There was a time that I don't know what had happened. Even if it was during the pandemic, people were working from home, but you would stay on hold for over an hour trying to speak to someone. Most of the time, I was satisfied with the service I got from AHS. The techs who came out were pretty good and I had no big issue with them. But when I would call AHS, it was hard to understand what their reps were saying. I kept asking for someone who I could understand. Sometimes they would get me to somebody else that speak a little bit better and I was able to understand better. It was a good warranty until it didn't cover my AC unit. When my air conditioner broke, they said something about some part that they didn't cover and they wanted me to pay over $3,000 to get it fixed. AHS also didn't cover my bathroom sink, but I didn't go into nothing with that. But they put in a heat pump for me before. Then they refused to cover it again. There was some part they refused to cover and they wanted me to pay that amount.
I was paying $87 a month because the cost of the coverage kept jumping up on me and I wasn't getting anything fixed in my house. And if something was broken, I had to pay a $75 deductible. So, all I was doing was flushing my money down the drain and I ended up cancelling AHS. Also, a couple of people asked me about a home warranty and I told them to stay away from American Home Shield.

Usually, the company calls and confirms a day or two before they come, but I would already know. I'll have that information through the Home Shield website because they would give it to me.
Recently, I did a service request for my hot water tank, and my interactions with the repair person were cordial and professional. He told me what the situation was and what needed to be repaired. My hot water tank had to be replaced, and he said, "If you give me permission, I can do it.” I said, “I’ll work with Home Shield to get the claim paid, and if there are any additional fees, do let me know before.”

American Home Shield is a great company. The couple of times I've dealt with them, they've been very quick to respond and get something set up usually that same day to get something on the schedule. We've had our rekeying scheduled through them when we bought our house, and then we had this issue with the leaking cold water supply line. The supply line had a little break in it, and it started bubbling the ceiling above our kitchen. Air Climate Solutions had to cut out part of the ceiling because it got wet and patched that hole, then they had to have some restoration completed as well.
I did the service request online, and the website was easy to navigate and self-explanatory. It's got dropdowns of whatever the issues are, and there's a catch-all as well in case there's something that's not listed on there that people could just explain. The good stuff is when American Home Shield would send somebody that is qualified, the technician that knows what they're doing, it's good. They send people and pay out. For example, I had some plumbing work done. AHS sent a great company. Everything was done correctly and quickly. I'm recently dealing with an issue with one of my refrigerators, where it makes a very loud sound. Went back and forth with AHS. They've been good as far as getting people to come back. But the technicians are not qualified for the type of appliance I have.
We have the platinum contract from last year and it's deceiving. They would say they would cover items up to $6,000. But if we had an oven that couldn't be replaced because they discontinued the part, they would pay out. And they pay a fraction of what it cost to replace that oven. They would not replace it with the existing type of oven I have. They have deals with Lowe's and some big consumer outlets, where they would give something that is similar. Meaning, they wouldn't guarantee it would fit if it's built-in. So, they put you in a position where you would have to take a buyout. And the buyout is a lot less than what it costs to replace that oven.
On the refrigerator that I've been going back and forth with them for several months, I recently called Sub-Zero and hired my own technician to come in. Because I just recently had their technician here and he said, "It's an older machine and as they get older, the noises do come back," meaning it's a normal thing. I said, "That's not normal. I'm sorry. I have three of them in my house. Three small units and the other two are not making that noise." I called up Sub-Zero. The guy is coming tomorrow. And he will review all three Sub-Zero refrigerators. They told me they would tell me what needs to be replaced, if there is a part to be replaced at this point.
American Home Shield is a lot better than Choice Home Warranty. But I'm dealing with this issue. There are a number of things. It's very difficult to get somebody on the phone. When I get someone, I would speak to somebody that is not a technician, very difficult to communicate with them. Although they speak English, they're not very savvy as far as the products or the issues. My view is that the technicians are a lot better than Choice Home Warranty. But at the same time, it depends who I get. It's like a roll of the dice. I don't have control of that.
When I try to reach them, I would talk to somebody in India that has no clue what's going on. So, I would go back and forth. I have two contracts. One in Florida. I had nothing for a whole year. Recently, I was there and my oven showed a code. And in my refrigerator, the ice maker wasn't working properly. Tomorrow, they're coming. They would replace it. So, it depends on the people that AHS hired because they don't take responsibility. Although they bring the technician to your house, you and the technician now are married together. They don't take any responsibility whether the guy is good or bad. I have to deal with the technician.
I pay a deductible of $125. When I asked the fact there was still something wrong with the refrigerator, AHS sent somebody back. This guy came in. He put some Freon. He said that was the issue but it wasn't. I called him up. He left a message on my answer machine saying, "This is what happens. I called up Sub-Zero and they say sometimes this is what happens when the unit gets older." So, I said, "That's not acceptable to me." I called up Sub-Zero. And they will send another person down, which I will pay out of my own pocket, another $125 plus taxes. I'll find out tomorrow what the true issue with this particular unit is. Because they have to be Sub-Zero certified technician, where they go to school for this.
AHS has deals with Lowe's and some other places. But they would put in the lowest cost that meets the criteria of what I had. It doesn't mean they would replace the same brand name. If they would replace it with something similar, I would pay other things that are not black and white in the contract. So, I would recommend if anybody would go in any of these companies, they gotta read the fine print and be a lawyer, because they would say, "Refer to this paragraph and now refer to the upper paragraph where it says, "We only do this." The contract moves you from paragraph A or B to back to C, D or E. And you gotta spend a lot of time reading this stuff.

Some of the contractors that American Home Shield go into partnerships with work full-time jobs somewhere else and don't have an adequate voicemail or answering service. So, they may assign me a contractor and I night call that person and never be able to get through. A time or two I had, especially about the refrigerator, I had to do the recall thing and have them all reach out to the person before I could get their attention again. Other than that, AHS' customer service was great. Whenever I called, I always got help. Having it was a good experience.
I had a problem. I called AHS. They sent somebody out to fix the refrigerator. The tech fixed it but something still did not happen. I called him back again. He came back out and said he forgot to do something. He did that. And we were in business. Once I get to the point where I need to have another warranty, I may consider AHS again.

One guy was running a little bit late, but he contacted me ahead of time and said, "Hey, I'm running 15, 20 minutes behind." They were all very cordial, very professional, and great fellas.

Considering I have never heard of such a thing as a home warranty, when I was given the opportunity to take part, I jumped on it. Upon further review, I realized that it is a great business model and it helps me so long as I know how it works. American Home Shield would send local people to help me, who understand things like, "Everybody has busted pipes. Here's what we can do. Here's what we've been doing. Here's what you can do beforehand to help you before we get there." That's invaluable. I am going to renew my home warranty.
However, sometimes I do not get a good enough service for what I am paying. I had to replace an air conditioner and there's a jump in Freon. Freon doesn't cost $20 a pound. It costs $120 a pound. I paid $55 a month for the last two and a half years, and I would need $1,000 worth of Freon, AHS said, "You gotta go one step up in your package." It would cost me $18 a month more to get that coverage taken care of. Had I known what I know now, I would have subscribed to a different policy and/or done things differently. But where the rubber meets the road, our garbage disposal or hot water heater went out, they would be Johnny-on-the-spot. And they would be happy to help.

We had some issues with our sink in the kitchen. The knob came off and it had been off for two months. American Home Shield sent a guy out to look at it and he said they were gonna order the parts. The next thing, we got a call back from American Shield and the guy said, "You gotta go through Lowe's because the original part is through another company." They gave us a hard time. Then a commode was cracked and the same people said they couldn’t do anything with it. The plumber wasn't local. He was an hour away. He wasn't honest. If he didn't wanna do the job, he should have just told American Home Shield to send somebody else out.
I blame American Home Shield to some extent because whatever the plumber told them, they believed it. They didn't want to hear anything we had to say. We canceled American Home Shield, my husband went to Lowe’s, and within a day, Lowe’s sent somebody out here. Both of our items were fixed for less than $500. American Home Shield has gotta be careful who they contract with.

I'm having a lot of issues with my refrigerator and the freezer. I have a contract with American Home Shield, and they sent out Direct Appliance to fix it. They have sent out Direct Appliance before and I've always dealt with one technician. He's amazing and I always try and request him whenever I need anything done. Direct Appliance has always come out and done the work.
But when I have to book it through AHS, there was an issue with some billing because they tried to bill me a year ago for something when the problem was still ongoing with the freezer and it hasn't been completely fixed. I didn't feel comfortable paying for it until it was completely fixed. There was a lot of confusion and back and forth. Also I was under the impression that if it cannot be fixed, that they'd replace it. But there's a cap on what they were willing to spend. So that would mean I'd have to settle for definitely one of a lower quality model, which I wasn't really happy with. It's one of those gray areas in their fine writing. I feel like they brag about it and the maximum amount is really not made transparent to the customer. It was maybe attributed to some sort of organization on their part. But it was something that I could deal with and get through. Give AHS a try and see what your experience would be. It's worth it.

I had three service calls. The first call was not quite resolved. The second call was not, too. The company that American Home Shield contracted did not send the paperwork in with what was needed. I did not appreciate the lack of concern, attention to the matter. They have serviced me before and it was adequate. But this time, I did not appreciate the gap in time, the fact that they were inadequate as far as providing the necessary documents to AHS. And I had to call them several times the first time to figure out when they would come out.
It took a long time. That was during very frigid temperatures where the temperature was negative and the furnace was not repaired. The company dragged their feet. I called AHS several times and asked for a supervisor. Because no one provided assistance and it was over a span of two weeks. I did not like that I had to wait for a furnace repair.
I asked for a different company and that was when I was provided with a company that knew what they were doing. I was told that if the report was the same as far as what the repair needed, I would have to pay the $100. So when that company came out, it was different than what I was told. That resolved. It just took too long. That last contractor was good.

American Home Shield has been hit-and-miss. It has been a challenge working with them. I had a water heater that flooded. It took AHS over a month to get a plumber out to my house to fix the item. First, they couldn't find a plumber. I was able to get my own plumber to come out here. And I had the that plumber come out. He gave me an estimate. AHS felt that he was too expensive, so they insisted that I have a second opinion. I had to wait another two and a half weeks to have them schedule a time for that plumber to come out to my house. Meanwhile, I had no running water at my home. My house has been flooded. I can't live there.
And the plumber that they sent out ended up reflooding my home, after I specifically told him to not turn the water on because we can't turn the water off on that section of the house, which is why all the water is turned off to the house. I incurred additional damages as a result of that. That plumber also wiped dog poop in my car port that has a carpeted flooring. I have no water so I couldn't clean it up. And AHS said that this is the only plumber I could use. I could no longer use the plumber that I had come out here, the one that was of my own choosing initially. And it took that plumber another few weeks to get out here. It took that plumber over five trips to my house to get the issue resolved. So, that left a bad taste in my mouth.
The same thing happened with roofers that AHS sent out. The roofers came out. I paid the cost for them to come out. And they said, "Only American Home Shield will cover a portion of this, but there's additional work that needs to be done." So, I paid them to do the additional work. And the next time it rained, I had the same issue.
I climbed up onto the roof. They removed shingles and slapped them back on my roof without doing the work that they were supposed to do. It was on me as well because I should have gone up there, checked and water tested, and trusted no one. I've contacted AHS because the issue hasn't been resolved and nobody has contacted me.
It's the same thing that has happened with several items where I asked that the situation be escalated and that I talk to a supervisor. I was told that tickets were made and but were not. I was told that I would get a call back but I didn't. I was told I would get a response within 72 hours, but I didn't. I get told different things by different people, depending on whoever I talk to. There's no consistency, no accountability, no follow through. It has been a very frustrating experience.

A lot of times, they just try to put a Band-Aid on things when they come out to fix it. I had a service technician come out from Sears to fix the washing machine and he supposedly fixed it. He told us he did, but then the same problem happened again. Unfortunately, it was a little over 30 days. I tried calling American Home Shield and work with them but they wouldn't deal with me. I ended up getting in touch with the Better Business Bureau and I told them that the first guy never fixed it and it was the same problem happening again. American Home Shield gave me my $100 service fee and they sent somebody else out who finally fixed it right. I wish they had a better customer service department. Seems like everyone I talked to is offshore and they don't always speak good English and understand you.

It used to be I talk to somebody and tell them what it is or if they could look and see if it's covered underneath my contract. Now, you get the automated system. But what if you don't wanna do it right then or you just got a question about it? Other than that, the benefit is I would have paid a lot more out on appliances getting fixed if I didn't have it.

Water was coming into my basement and I thought it was my sump pump. I called American Home Shield and they told me they were going to assign my case to particular company. Then they told me what company it was. They took the deposit over the phone right then and there, which means they prefer you to have a credit card on file that they can charge to. An email immediately came telling me the date that they said they were going to send the person on the phone and the email said the company would reach out to me. Sure enough, the company called within that same day and talked to me to find out what was going on with my problem.
The plumber who came out was very professional. When they came to the door, they were prepared to take off their shoes and they show their IDs. They first replaced a pump in the sump pump, which cost me $800. American Home Shield does not cover sump pumps, so they were not going to pay for it. But they were still responsible for sending the contractor to my house. Then, the techs said I needed a part replacement and I paid out of my pocket for that as well. And the next time it rained, the same thing happened. I called the plumbing company directly and they sent out another person. I had to pay another fee with American Home Shield.
The second person tested and was trying to figure out where the water was coming from. He said that he flushed our toilet 200 times and ran our shower in the basement 100 times. He told me that that everything worked fine and assured me that the sump pump was working beautifully, but yet my water was still coming in my basement. If it was not the sump pump the second time, why was it the sump pump the first time and the same problem was happening? It made me question whether or not that $800 part needed to be replaced in my sump pump.
I have a handyman that comes to me every other week or so doing handyman things around the house and it was by a fluke that he found what the problem was. He thought he was fixing something with the drain pipes but he actually fixed the problem why water was coming into my basement. It's some kind of drainage that is supposed to run out into my field and that's what he fixed. Apparently, the guy that cuts my grass ran over it with the lawn mower so many times until the water was not flowing out into the field and was going back down the hole coming down in my basement. Thank God it was never a great amount of water or I might have left American Home Shield.
Other than that, I like that they cover most of everything that concerns me that would break down in my house, except that sump pump. I also like the cost even though it went up a couple of dollars since 2013. But I don't like it when they say that they have fixed something and the problem is not fixed. I have two ovens in my kitchen and one of them went wacko. American Home Shield sent a contractor here and the guy assessed the problem. He said this part needs to be replaced and it took two weeks. He brought the part back, put it in, and said that that thing cost $400. But the oven is still doing the same thing and I owe them a call to let them know that. The unfortunate part about it is it took more than a month before the same thing started acting up.

We used American Home Shield within the first 90 days of being in the house which saved us a lot of money. They made it a lot easier to request somebody to come out through online than calling if it was something that was easy to select and I didn't have to explain. That was helpful. We had a plumbing issue. Our toilet kept running. A plumber came in and fixed it.
The one that wasn't the best was the issue with our thermostat that never got fixed. I got tired of calling and the repairman coming out and saying the same thing. It was during the heat and I know that he was crazy busy during the summer. I think he didn't have the capacity to take time and try to figure out what was going on with our thermostat. He was trying to do quick fixes so he could move on to the next one. He put a whole new thermostat in but it still wasn't responding. He was nice but I wish that we would have gotten more of a better solution to our issue with our thermostat. Our utility bill has been insane because our thermostat isn't reading what's happening in the house. I do things like put our heater in the hallway so that our heater can make the thermostat read what the temperature of the house is. He was supposed to come back out another time, but he never came. It was discouraging.

AHS has multiple choices for the payment and I like them. When you choose the higher deductible, the lower your monthly fee will be. Sometimes, the service we get is favorable and at other times, we've had a little trouble. When we had an issue with our air conditioning unit, they were able to send somebody out. Usually, within 24 hours, they'll send the call out, then someone can come out. Other times, they'll assign a contractor, then that contractor, you can't get ahold of them when you have an issue with not being able to flush your toilets or take showers. And sometimes that has taken four days, which is a long time to go without being able to use your toilets and take showers. The problem with that is they don't offer an emergency type service.
That happened to us three times. One time, it was on a weekend. We had to drive to nearby stores to use the restrooms and there was four of us living in the household with a small child. When the plumber came, he said he didn't know why they didn't give him the call as he was driving around that night on call. At another time, it happened on the weekend again and we had to leave the house for two nights because it was July and the air conditioner went out. AHS couldn't get anybody out until Tuesday and cost us about $700 in hotel fees. On another time, it happened during the week and someone was able to come out the next day. You can't really expect them to come out instantly but the next day is acceptable.
When you call AHS, sometimes you cannot get ahold of an individual. You're put in this loop if you want to do something online, then you try to follow up and you can't find a number where it actually goes to a human being. One time, they referred our claim to a contractor who didn't even want to come out to the house. And when I called AHS to get a status, I was talking to just the person who answered the phone and she was relaying information back and forth to, apparently, the contractor. Then the contractor said that they didn't handle my issue and they didn't even know what the issue was.
But American Home Shield was very good in that instance because when I called and told them that I didn't want to be charged by that contractor, they said they wouldn't. I then asked for another contractor to be assigned and they did that. I also asked for them to put that first contractor on a no-call list because I don't want to deal with them ever again when they couldn't even take the time to come out to the house and AHS was accommodating for that.

Then they said it was something different, and then they replaced some board. At one time, they used WD-40 to say that fixed it. But I said, “No.” This time, they said it was a fuse again. So we got 30 days to see. Usually, it breaks again within two days after they fixed it, so we'll see.

Overall, American Home Shield has been good. That was a claim for my AC. I called AHS and I let them know that the vendors came out, but they couldn't fix it. They had to order a different part. They said the part was not covered through Home Shield because it was an original part and I had to pay for it out of pocket. So, I filed for them to do the research and make sure that was accurate, and I got no response back from American Home Shield, nor did I get refunded my money back. I was paying my co-pay and was paying for the part. The parts that they were trying to do kept breaking. I went for three weeks at 100-some degrees temperature in my house.
Overall, when my water heater went out, having American Home Shield was fine. They reimbursed me a portion of my money back because I didn't wanna wait the three weeks it would take for the company that they sent out to bring me a water heater. I pay for them. They should broaden out who they use or resource to for us to get serviced.

The coverage itself gives me a bit of peace of mind. It would cost me $2,000 to have the two air condition units replaced. So, it was expensive. That was the reason why I picked a home coverage insurance, because it covered that. So, I went ahead and purchased the insurance from American Home Shield. That was the incident that made me feel that if something else broke within the house, I wanted to make sure that if the heating or anything else went out, that would be a major expense, that at least it wouldn't cost me that much money.
The garbage disposal would not function because it overheated and burnt the motor. I submitted the claim through my desktop computer. American Home Shield has a website in which I could request a service. And usually, it would take five minutes to get the information out to them. After a minute or two, I would get a response and they would send me an email stating which repair company would come or contact me within the next 48 hours.
Most of the contractors are okay. AHS would send out a technician but wouldn't check the repair or at least the pump that I have that gave me a problem. And the contractor would always have to go ahead and inspect it, and would tell me they would have to report to their company and report back to AHS. That would take two to three days. I would get a response, either they would repair it or they would be subject to whatever requirements for what we would repair and what way it would be repaired.
I had a situation where my pump went out. The contractor came and inspected it, but the insurance called me and said that they couldn't repair it because it wasn't upgraded. And in the state of California, in 2019, which I wasn't aware of, they changed the pool pump requirements to have energy-efficient pool pumps to be installed. The one that I had when I had first put in my pool didn't meet the requirements. So, they told me I would have to pay upfront for the pump to be installed instead of getting them, trying to repair the one that I had, because it was frozen. They told me that I would have to pay a fee of $1,500 to have it installed, and it would be upgraded to meet the requirements of California. But I questioned it and told them I would get back with them.
I went to several pool repair companies that repair pool pumps. I questioned them about the idea that mine didn't meet the requirement. And I had pictures of the pump, so I brought those pictures to the technicians there. They told me my pump wasn't approved by the State of California and it needed to be a pump that had to be energy-efficient. I said, “Give me the cheapest pump that you can give me that's energy-efficient. And how much would it cost?” They told me it would cost me about $2,500.
I got back with AHS and they stated to me that it wouldn't cost me more than $1,500 to have the new one put in. So, I went with them because it was cheaper. It met the requirement. It was my fault because I did not know the requirements. I'm not an expert on pool pumps. I was upset because it didn't cover it. But it wasn't their fault.
I don't know why they don't cover roofing because where I live, there's a lot of wind and sometimes it could cause damage to the tile roofing. That's the only thing AHS might consider covering. And I wish it would cover more on the pool pumps because I have pool lights, and I have one in my Jacuzzi which spills into my pool. AHS doesn't cover that. That's expensive because I had to have out of the pocket. It cost me $400 to have them repaired. I read through the contract that they didn't cover anything like that. I even called to verify that, and they told me they didn't cover that. So, I was disappointed. But I haven't found anything better at this point.

I like American Home Shield's reliability. A fellow came out to do a routine check-up of the HVAC a couple of weeks ago. He went through the air conditioning upstairs and the basement. He inspected the systems and cleaned them out. He was able to fix the problem that the manufacturers of our system left. That was impressive.

I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. My last claim was for a garbage disposal. I got it replaced. It was an easy process. We filed the claim online and then someone contacted me within a day. My experience with the contractor was easy and efficient. I have peace of mind. When something breaks down in my home, most likely, it's covered by American Home Shield warranty. I just file the claim and then get my appliance fixed.

My air conditioner wouldn't come on at all, and the house wasn't cooling anymore. It used to cool completely. American Home Shield said that I had to replace my old unit, charged me $13,000, moved it into my attic, and then said that that's not where they said that they needed to put it. I don't know what the problem was. They installed it in the attic where there was no room to run the ducts, and so then they took and ran ducts and then just left them sitting there pretending like they were hooked up to the vents. Some vents weren’t hooked up to the ceiling. You can go up there, which I did this last week because I've been so pissed. My attic was so hot. I was sweating beads, and it was freezing outside. I took the coil pipe and I taped up everything I could.
I canceled my American Home Shield policy because I called that company 17 times to come and repair what they had. They said I had mice in my attic. Then one of the guys said I did have bats in the attic, and he was talking about me, and I did not appreciate that comment. The only holes that are in the ducts were right when you went up to the attic, and it looks like somebody put their finger through it in three places. They said it was because I have mice, which I don't because I had them exterminated. And because I have mice, AHS said they can't pay for it. I have to pay the $13,000. It's supposed to be in the warranty. They blocked my calls. They won't even take my calls.
I am very dissatisfied. I would not even recommend AHS to somebody I hate. There was an electrician that came out to my house to help me with my electrical stuff. He was awesome. I actually requested him a second time for my electrical stuff. He just came out and did what he needed to do. The refrigerator technician came out and he did what he needed to do. It was the AC people who gave me issues, and I even had one of them come out and they saw a roach. He opened up the attic and he said, “You have a roach infestation. I can't do anything.” He left and because he said that there was an infestation, no one could come back out to help me until I had it exterminated. I already had it exterminated.
AHS won't come out and do anything at all. They refuse to stand by their warranty. They're saying that my troubles were because I have mice. My troubles are because I have dead mice. What kind of dead mouse is gonna break your air conditioner or your vent? I thought that AHS was gonna be great because I used to have it a long time ago, and it worked out really well. My appliance broke and they came and brought out a new one. But this time, there was nothing. I was supposed to renew my contract and I canceled it.

I'm not happy with American Home Shield and Sundance. My overall experience on this particular case was, from beginning to end, awful. Would I consider looking at a different warranty company? I see the value in having it. AHS was great the first year, but the last year and a half, I'm not happy with them. I would consider looking at somebody else.
I could put up to nine different things as long as they fell under the same category. We had four leaks. Three in the master bath and the one in the kitchen. I had a leaking kitchen sink. My master bath toilet ran. My master bath has two sinks. One of the master bath sinks leaked. And the handheld piece in the master shower. There were three items, all on the master bath. There was the down spray. And there was a handheld spray which has leaked since we bought the house two years ago.
The contractor took three visits where I had to give six hours of my time on each. I was not happy about that. The handheld piece, they said, “We can't fix this. It needs to be replaced.” They only carry chrome finish for products. My master bath is all antique bronze. So, the finishes don't match. I couldn't use their product because I would not have mismatched appliances in the bathroom. It would take from the aesthetic beauty way. My only option was to do the cash-out so I could go out and buy whatever piece I wanted, and I would have to pay the contractor if I wanted them to come back out and install it, which I would never do.
The first visit, the gentleman was able to fix the toilet. And they took care of the kitchen sink. They couldn't do anything with that so they said, “We recommend that you replace it.” Same problem with that. It's a brushed stainless. It's not chrome. I would not have that be the only piece that would stand out like a beacon, so we did cash option on that. The quote for Sundance to come out and replace the handheld and the kitchen sink was exorbitant. So, I haven't bought the replacement pieces, but as soon as I do it, I would not go to Sundance to have them installed.
My biggest problem was the master bath sink. That took three visits. It leaked underneath, and I didn't know if it was the P trap connections or if it was something else. The first visit, the tech said, “I don't have all the parts to fix this.” I described to the people at AHS what was going on, so I was surprised they didn't have all the stuff. But the tech was nice. I felt he was adequate. He said, “We're gonna have to do a separate visit,” which meant they had to come back again. They came out a second time and did some replacing on the pieces. They hadn't even left the house for five minutes. My wife came home. That was supposed to be my wife’s sink so unhappy wife is not a good life. She turned it on and she said, “It's still leaking.”
I called back the contractor. They scheduled me, but I had to call AHS. But they never put it in their calendar because they didn't get the notification from AHS. I had to call back AHS, and it was, “It's still leaking.” The contractor came out the third time. They said, “Yeah, it's a problem with the faucet. You need to get a new faucet.” We had the problem with the finishes not matching again. They only have chrome. Unfortunately, they don't make that sink faucet anymore, so I had to buy two if I wanted them to match.

A couple of times that we have had to use American Home Shield, it was as simple as a phone call even at the weekend. And we've been able to manage the crisis of the situation. That experience made us very loyal. The online piece and the way that works is very quick and easy. And working with American Home Shield's network of vendors has been very easy. I just had one bad experience with one of them. It was to fix my microwave, but it didn't get fixed. It wouldn't last long. I was worried that to fix it again, they would be the same vendor. But it looked like that vendor is no longer in their network. Maybe other people complained. But overall, I have had a good experience with AHS.

American Home Shield sent Inflow Plumbing, and the tech was very good and very informative. We had a leak from the faucet in my bathtub. I submitted a claim online. The website is a hit and miss. Sometimes, it's user-friendly. Sometimes, it's like, "Well, I'm looking for this but it won't let me go towards this." Another quandary was five guys came out and tried to fix my ice maker. They couldn't figure it out. They never fixed it. One time, it just turned on and worked. Then one time, it turned off. The tech changed out the valves and did good. It's functioning well right now. We live in a very high calcium environment. So, it gets kind of junked up quickly.
Also, I tried to have them fix my plug for my shower. Nobody could figure that out. I had three people come out. They were trying parts. I had already pre-bought parts for them to see if they could do that, but they couldn't make what's supposed to go into it work. I ended up with just a regular plug. Having the warranty might be economical. It's just service takes a little bit of time to get to and sometimes, they know their stuff, but sometimes they don't.

American Home Shield was good. But sometimes they send some people out that didn't always seem to know what they was doing. We had to get somebody to come back a second time. Then over the years, the pricing has gone up from our initial deductible. But it's still affordable. It's still a good service. I'm not quitting it. When my dishwasher went out, they couldn't find the part for it. The tech tried to order the part and find it in a few different places to no avail. He contacted AHS and they told him to replace it. They sent the brand new replacement washer out and it was too big to fit under my counter because of the tile on the floor. So they sent another model out, and the guy came out. They worked that thing in there, and the dishwasher was up and running.

Submitting a claim online with AHS has been easy. But calling is not that great because you have to usually wait a long time for someone to answer the phone. My recent claim wasn't a very good experience. It was with the sink and we had to get a different faucet. The one they brought wasn't the right one. They came back out. But they ended up being able to use our existing faucet after all. The techs were good though and it turned out good in the end. I was with AHS for five years. Their service was terrible. We tried for five years to get them to replace our air conditioner and they wouldn't. They replaced one part and the part never worked. They would come out and put a band-aid on it. They would have to come out every year. I would pay my fee for them to come out, plus the astronomical fee for the coolant. We had them come out one time to look at our furnace, and they told us our furnace was fine. But we had a different company come out and look at it, and it was leaking carbon monoxide. I've been debating whether it's wise to keep AHS or not. They just upped their fee from 37 something to 46.99 which was a big jump. On the first year, I paid less than that at 32 something. So I called to complain about it and I could tell the guy was not going to really be helpful. So I just hung up. The one time I needed them, I had a very old hot water heater and they replaced it. I'm quite happy with the new heater but it took quite a while to get the whole thing organized. Also, it cost me $950 which I wasn't expecting since I paid them 30. So that did not make me very happy. But the tech came from a plumbing company and he was great. He was completely helpful and was very pleasant. We didn't want that extra expense of the payments. People should look at all their options because with American Home Shield, you gotta dig deep to see what they actually cover. They refused to cover the first couple of things we called in for, which were the light for the pool and one of the motors for our hot tub. They said because it's a secondary motor and wasn't the primary. The whole point of having the insurance is to cover it so it was useless to have it when they refused to cover what I actually paid for.

American Home Shield is good. I was upset because it took a long time until they could give me a new refrigerator. It was a very good refrigerator with a good brand, better than what I used to have. But it took me around four months and they sent four different companies. Sears was the second company that they sent and the customer service was very kind. The technicians did a great job. They were the ones who stayed more trying to figure out what was going on. They did more tests and did a good job.
The only thing I didn't like was after a couple of times that they came, they didn't answer the call. When I spoke with AHS, they said they didn't know why, but Sears said they were not gonna be able to come anymore. So, AHS has to send me another company. And that's the problem. Sears did a lot of things on it and they would know the next step. Another company was gonna try the first thing, then the second, and the same thing as Sears did. But other than that, Sears was good. The person they sent checked little details.

Our dryer was making a loud noise and Attwoods Appliances came out. For our water heater issue, which was our latest call, it was Pruitt’s Plumbing. American Home Shield has been good so far. The only issue that we have is when we call in for something to be serviced. It appears that the first recommendation as far as a service agent is with Sears, which we don't like at all. So, we have to request somebody like Attwoods or Pruitt's Plumbing. But AHS has been flexible with that. If we don't want that particular service agent or company to come out, we can recommend another one. And if that's on their list, they'll let us use them. So, it just takes a little extra work, but it's not too awful bad.

I had some leaking faucets and it took a long time to get it approved because they had to replace parts for it. So it took a little longer to get it than I expected. But overall, it got taken care of. When you have a claim, sometimes you're limited to what the contractor says, like if they think it should be covered or not. But they don't know all the situation. They initially told me it wasn't covered and I would be in trouble. I had to pay for it on my pocket. But after reviewing further, they were able to get it covered.
They had to replace the faucets in my bathroom because the cartridges weren't working. But they didn't wanna replace the drain. So there was no drain. I couldn't have a drain in my sink. I couldn't do anything. So I had to make a separate claim and pay another $75 for a copay to get that to happen. That was ridiculous. There was no good way to talk to anybody at American Home Shield. You call and it's very long wait on the phone. So I wasn't happy in that sense. Also, in the last couple of years, American Home Shield raised the rate of the policy a couple of times. Every time I call them and try to see if they can do anything different, all they wanna do is lower my coverage, which doesn't give me benefit.

But we had a plumbing claim for the property at Fair Street in Cooperstown last October and American Home Shield hasn't paid the plumber yet and it's very embarrassing. It's all fixed but there's an outstanding bill. Other than that, we don't usually have too much trouble with American Home Shield. Once in a while, you have to make a zillion phone calls and be on the phone for hours.
A number of years ago, we had a couple of really big claims. We had to pay them and it took about six months to get the money back. We eventually got it back, but you hate it when it's a battle like that. But overall, it's pretty good coverage. If I added up what we pay on the four properties, it's a few hundred dollars. But then when something goes wrong, it's paid. It's a good plan and we didn't ever have a situation where we didn't get paid.

I called American Home Shield and asked for a plumber. They sent out somebody and I had to pay $100. The guy showed up and said he was going back out to his car and he would be right back. He came back but he didn't bring anything. I asked him what he was doing and he said he couldn't fix it. He told me that the house was too old and that he was going to go back to his office and American Home Shield would call me. But nobody called me. So I waited.
The next day, I called American Home Shield and said, "Okay. What's going on? This guy didn't come back. I still got a plugged sink." They told me that they couldn't fix it. I told them that the guy didn't even try to fix it and I paid $100. The rep said, "Yeah. Because it's an old house." So I asked her what I had to do now and she said that they were gonna send me to somebody else and that they would call me.
I got the call and they told me that line that was outside my house that you unplug and everything goes out through there, it needed to go through the roof. They proceeded to tell me again that it was gonna cost me another $100 for them to come and look at it and then decide what they were gonna do. But I told them, "Wait a minute. I already paid American Home Shield." They said, "Yeah. Now, this is different. And so now you have to pay us to come out there and look at this." But I told them that I was going to take care of this on my own.
I ended up having somebody come out. Long story short and $30,000 later, I've gotten it taken care of without American Home Shield ever doing anything except charging me $100. My water heater has been in for 10 years. I had it moved recently after that plumbing issue. I had to redo my whole washroom because it got flooded in that problem.
The plumbing people moved the water heater outside for me. I asked them if they could put it on that slab of cement that I have. I told them that I was gonna have the gas people come and run a new line to it. So they did that and they ran a new line to it. It was working. But because it's outside now, it has one of those lines that goes out of the little house that it's sitting in. We had a huge storm here last month and it knocked over that little tube that comes out of the little house that the heat goes out of.
The guy came out and looked at it. I asked him if he noticed that little thing up there blew over in the storm. He said, "Yeah. That's the problem." He told me that water got in to the water heater through that. That made sense and I asked what he was gonna do. He said, "We'll fix it. But first, we're gonna tell American Home Shield what the problem is." He said he took pictures and that he would let American Home Shield know. But nobody ever called me. I called them the next day. At this point, we have three adults living in the house heating water on the stove to take a shower. I asked American Home Shield, "Can you come back out and get somebody out here?" They said, "Okay. Well, this is how much it's gonna cost. We're not going to replace. We would rather repair than replace your water heater.”
That water heater has been in there for 10 years. I told American Home Shield that it has a date on it for when I put it in 10 years ago." The lady said, "Yeah. But we'd rather repair than replace." I asked her what they gonna repair and she said the pilot light and then the base at the bottom. I asked her who do I need to talk to and she said it was back to the company that went out and told us what the problem was. I called that plumbing company and I said, "Let's say, you come out here and you fix that and it doesn't work." They said, "Well, then you need to call American Home Shield again and then have them start this process again."
I asked them how do I know that their repair wasn't the problem and they said, "Well, we won't know that until it happens." Then I asked how long they warranty this and she said 90 days. I then asked for the cost to just replace it and they said $2,200 out of pocket. I said, "American Home Shield doesn't cover that?" She said, "No. American Home Shield does not cover that. You would have to pay that out of pocket."
I called another plumbing company and I said, "I need a new water heater. End of conversation. I'm not gonna tell you what happened. I just need a new water heater." The guy said he could do that on Monday and it was $1,200. I told him, "Okay. Bring me a new water heater." I never called back American Home Shield. But now, if I want to use American Home Shield again, I need to provide proof that I fixed that water heater. I need to provide proof that I had a capable plumbing company go out and do that. So that they'll now cover it if in the future something happens.

The AC stopped producing cool. Something was going on with the control panel that the AC would not come on, so it was just blowing hot air. I set up the claim online. It was pretty easy. You get online, you put what you want done, and they put whoever is online next to do work. They say within 24 hours, somebody would call and it’s just up to how busy the company is to come out to do work. It was about two days, but it was on the weekend, so it ended up being 4. The contractor diagnosed it, they hooked up all the wires and looked at it, and they came up with there was a computer panel, and because it was the brand, they had to go change the computer panel and the fan motor because they were connected. They had to order parts. It took about another week and a half.
Majority of the companies that American Home Shield farms out work are good. A couple of them weren't so good. So it's just a matter of shuffling through reviews to see what company is actually good to come out and not just trying to make a buck. If you're not handy and the appliances are old, American Home Shield would be worth it.

American Home Shield's prices have gone up substantially. They keep going up. We had a bad water heater. I had to do cash-outs because they allowed their vendors to jack up the price so bad on changing a water heater. It's unreal. These companies jack up the price to change a water heater to $900. What they're doing is not illegal, but it's not necessary. They do a bunch of add-ons every time and AHS wouldn't do a thing about it. It happens all the time. I got three where I had to do cash-outs and get somebody to put the water heater in myself because of that. It's hard to get vendors because AHS does not pay high for their services. They have to make a profit and stay in the business. But some of the things they allowed the vendors to do is not right. I got a list of vendors that I wouldn't allow in my house and a lot of those are on the plumbing and water heaters. I'm starting to check into new warranties with other companies.

The experience is good. It’s just that the warranty is 50-50. I had issues with my dryer, so the contractor came and fixed it. I thought it needed to warm up. But I only had a 30-day warranty after American Home Shield fixed it. My dryer is not drying. It would take three cycles before my clothing is completely dry. So, I called to see somebody come. They said no, they could come check it out, but I would need to pay $125 as my stuff again. If I knew that something was not working properly, I would have to call right away. But instead of paying another $125, I might as well just get me a new one.
I also had my ice maker. It built water underneath it. AHS replaced it, but when I did the service request, I also told them the lights in the freezer wouldn't work, but they told me the light wasn't part of it. I told them, “It's okay. As long as you get it fixed, that's all I want.” But they said that would have been another $125. I said, “Hold on. But I did everything in one shot.” They still said that's another $125.

Overall, the service has been okay -- being able to schedule, have the people arrive, get the work done. But we've had a repeated problem with air conditioning. We've had people come out to do the repair but it's still not 100% resolved and it was left with us to have to re-raise another case. Other than that, having a peace of mind knowing that we have the coverage has been good. We recently looked at upgrading the type of coverage that we have so that we can have some additional protections in there.

The service of AHS has been good. I like that I don't have to worry, I just call them and they will take care of everything. You also don't have to worry about your out-of-pocket repairs. You have to pay for the service call, but if you compare that with buying the whole appliance, it’s worth it. I had an issue with my dishwasher and it was fixed. The company that they reached out to called me the next day and scheduled an appointment with the technician. The tech was very knowledgeable. He explained all that he was gonna do.

American Home Shield seems to be better than the others that I've had in the past. Recently, I had issues with my washer and they were able to get a technician out who determined that the parts were no longer in production. So they sent me a gift card so that I could go get me a brand new washer. It was a very easy process and it would have been quicker but the day that the washer broke was the day that we were leaving for a vacation. So while I was on the road, I called AHS and they said the technician would call me back. But when the technician called, we were still on vacation. So I had to tell them that we were not going to be back for a while. But when we were back from vacation, we arrived on Friday and the technician was out the following week on a Tuesday. And it took another seven days for them to determine if the parts were available, then another two days to get the gift card.
I called customer service during the process to find out if the parts were available. Then I asked what would happen if the parts were not available and that was when they explained to me that I could give me a gift card. I didn't know that they would even give a gift card. They said that I could either use the money toward their inventory or go to Lowe's. So we opted to go to Lowe's. The reps at AHS broke everything down and said that I would get an email and text message with the results, which I did. Their customer service was great and everything they said would possibly happen had the part not been in production was exactly what happened. Also, after that call, I didn't have to call them and ask where was the gift card. I just waited for the text message and the email. Even when I used the gift card, I didn't have any issues and it was almost like Lowe's knew exactly what to do.

I like AHS. When we had a plumbing problem in the kitchen, they sent out a tech and we paid them $125. But they told me that they couldn't fix it and we had to end up calling John Moore to fix the problem. $125 was not worth giving away if they couldn't fix the problem. Plus, we ended up having to pay $900 out of pocket. Other than that, the customer service of AHS was good. When I wasn't getting heat from my hot water heater, they sent someone out and they were able to fix it. But they said the hot water heater needed to be replaced and AHS wouldn't cover the replacement because they said it was still good.

My AHS warranty covers a lot of things and it’s saving me some money. Usually, the contractors that they send do a good job. But some of the people they got contracts with aren't any good. When that happens, I usually call them back, tell them I'm having a problem, and ask if they could provide a different contractor. Recently, I called AHS to file an electrical claim and it was easy to get a rep. He took my request and contacted a contractor. Then he gave me the name of the place and told me that they would call me and let me know when they were going to be here. Afterwards, techs came in and fixed a couple of ceiling lights. If a friend of mine needs a warranty, I would tell them that AHS would be a good company to try.

American Home Shield doesn't cover anything. I was trying to get my air conditioner fixed and they sent out a company several different times. It never got fixed. Another company still didn't get it fixed. The contractors are not worth anything. I paid them 125 for them to come out and say, "It could be this and that," and didn't do anything. It's not worth getting a home warranty company. AHS put me off from trying any other company.

I am compelled to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service provided by American Home Shield (AHS) insurance. My recent interactions regarding a refrigerator issue have left me thoroughly frustrated and dissatisfied. I initially contacted AHS to address a problem with my refrigerator, seeking a resolution to the ongoing cooling and ice-making issues. Despite multiple service visits, the problem persists, and the so-called "fixes" implemented by their service professionals have proven to be ineffective.
This recurring problem has led to a significant inconvenience, forcing me to discard groceries three or four times within the past two months due to the refrigerator's failure to cool adequately. The lack of a reliable solution from AHS has not only resulted in a waste of time and money but has also caused considerable frustration and inconvenience. The inefficiency of the service professionals dispatched by AHS raises serious questions about the effectiveness of their repair services and the overall quality of their coverage. As a paying customer, I expected prompt and reliable solutions to my appliance issues, but the repeated failures have left me deeply dissatisfied.
I am thoroughly disappointed with the level of service provided by American Home Shield and would caution anyone considering their services to think twice before engaging with this company. My experience has been nothing short of frustrating and has significantly eroded my confidence in AHS's ability to deliver on its promises.
Tigest, we appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

I had two issues and AHS responded in a timely manner. I called their number and it was not difficult to get a rep. One of the claims I had was for my garage door and it seems to be working okay now. The other one was for my garbage disposal and the first tech who came out said that it wasn't in his field. When he checked it, he said it was an electrical problem. He relayed that back to American Home Shield and they set up another person to come out here.
The second guy was an electrician who said it was the breaker and he changed it. The first time I used it, it worked. The next time I used it, it tripped again. But those were brand new breakers put in about two months ago and they don't go bad that easy. So that claim is not yet resolved but I don't have the time to sit down, put things together, and call the tech back out. Other than that, having AHS is economical and I’ll recommend them. For the consumer, the warranty is very helpful because it's very costly to get things replaced and worked on. And if you have a protection layer, it helps you greatly.

Our AC and furnace were having issues. So we placed a claim and American Home Shield pretty promptly assigned us a company, Placer Heating and Air, who came out and diagnosed it. Unfortunately, the extent of the issue was pretty major. So the warranty deductible didn't cover the cost of replacing it in total. But it did discount a little bit of the service we ended up going with.
We ended up getting the furnace replaced. So it was a fairly large job. After they completed the task there, they scheduled the county inspector to come out and sign off on it. The county inspector came out, and said Placer Heating and Air didn't provide the correct documentation. So then, Placer Heating and Air had to come out, give us the paperwork that was forgotten, and then they scheduled the county inspector again. The county inspector came out again, inspected it and noticed some things were missing or incomplete. So they scheduled for Placer Heating and Air to come back out and do a couple of adjustments. Then they scheduled the inspector to come back out. They just passed the inspection with the county inspector this week. It was a little frustrating with the inspection part. But overall, I'd still recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's contractors are usually great and the coverage is a safe thing to have to get something fixed that could cost more if we didn't have it. I recommend American Home Shield to other people. I had a contractor come and repair my dishwasher. The water would run, but the soap was still stuck on all the dishes. I also had a contractor come out and fix some faucets. I had a couple of faucets that were broken, and they were all included in one bill. Then I had three faucets and they fixed them all, so I was satisfied with that. The plumbing contractors have always been good.
For the electrical claim, an electrician came out but said that electrical in the walls is not covered. The ballast was bad on the light fixture, and the electrician said that they could not replace it, that I would need to get the whole fixture, and that the warranty would not cover the installation of the new fixture. That ended up being a hassle. We paid for the service fee and got nothing. My biggest complaint is that every time I call, it always sounds like I'm talking to somebody from another country. Another complaint is the service fees have gone up. We have it on our other house as well. The service fee was $75 then it jumped up to 125.

I'm disappointed that American Home Shield doesn't cover much. We've had multiple problems and we were under the impression that they were gonna safeguard us when we bought our home. But it's only cost us money. We pay a monthly service then if we have someone come out, we pay for that too. But there's not much they can fix. The only thing that's covered is an AC. Nothing behind a wall or a door can be fixed. It's all cosmetic stuff or some things that we could fix ourselves. It's not the big issues, which is why you would have a home warranty. I'm probably not going to renew for that reason.
We never got an answer on the last thing that we called out for though they ended up sending a leak specialist. I filed a claim with my homeowners insurance. For whatever reason, the report from the leak specialist went to them. We don't even know how to fix the problem. Now, it's extended and I'm not gonna call American Home Shield for their contractor to come back out and look at it. I'm not gonna pay more money to have somebody come back out to not give me an answer.
We have a spot on our ceiling that's a leak. It looks like it might be coming from upstairs where there's a bathroom next to an AC handler. No one could tell us where it was coming from. We all assume it's from the bathroom. But you can't tell it's from the bathroom because you'd have to pull out the tub or breach a wall to find out where it's coming from. Now we have another spot in another part of our house which would lead you to think that maybe it's the roof. We had someone ourselves that we paid to come out and look at the roof. They say it's not the roof. Again, we don't have answers. There was no follow-up from American Home Shield and I wish there would have been more follow-up.

Tin Smith Mechanical came out for my most recent claim and it was very straight-to-the-point. The tech evaluated what was wrong with the AC. I needed a new capacitor and a new motor or a new fan in the AC outside and they had their truck with almost everything I could have needed, so it was a quick stop. After an hour or so, they were heading out and my AC was fixed. I like it a lot and it was more convenient. I've had other contractors come out for the washer and the refrigerator, which isn't the end of the world, but they had to order parts and then come back when the parts arrived a week later or so.
I file claims online through their website. Once you put in the issue and before you submit the ticket, they offer a decent amount of videos for things to attempt yourself. I was gonna use them to do my garbage disposal because it wasn't working and before I submitted the ticket, there was a video that asked me to check the bottom of the motor and to turn up with an Allen key. That ended up resolving this stuck object that was in the garbage disposal, which then saved me having to call them and get someone out. AHS is worth it and it's peace of mind. I keep it because the AC alone, if that went out, would cost me a couple of thousand dollars. I'm happy with it for what it covers.

Of all of the HVAC groups that have come for my various issues, Certified Heating & Air who worked on our most recent claim was the most interested in helping. I really appreciated what they did. They did their diagnostic, we talked about it, they updated the core, and then the unit worked for an hour or two. Then, it didn't work and I texted the tech back. He gave me a few pointers and we spoke. He came back out and found that there was a second failure mode that he hadn't picked up on the first one. He got through with American Home Shield and got it taken care of. Regrettably, the unit took two weeks to get when it was 105 degrees, but that's not the fault of either the contractor or American Home Shield.
The only really bad experience I've had was when I had a water heater claim. That took me a good 30 hours to get clarified and fixed after everything was set. I followed all the instructions, did everything I was told, and it was rejected. We had to provide all the information and then, finally, a supervisor called up and said they would cover it. I got the money, but it was a lot of effort.

I've had more issues with American Home Shield than the contractors. I had a service provider that couldn't get me service prior to Christmas and AHS didn't wanna switch the provider. Also, sometimes it's a battle to get things communicated properly. A lot of times, you can't understand who you're talking to when you call in. But other than that, it's a great service. Getting connected to a contractor and not having to come out of pocket as much are the most valuable things for me.

The first one was for a leak. A guy came out and said he tightened something up, but I still had a leak going. He should have seen where it was leaking. Another plumber came out and he said something was handtight. He tightened it with his hand. I had to pay $100 deductible both times. In the meantime, I had water damage. It was under my sink. But now, it's all torn out and I had to file an insurance claim, which is not good for me. American Home Shield let me down. I left another provider for American Home Shield because I had them in the past and thought they were good. But this incident makes me think about leaving.

The dishwasher would run for 15 minutes then it would stop running, throw a code and there would be a couple of inches of water in the bottom of it. The repairman who came was a pain. We did not have a working dishwasher for three months on the first one. I feel like he was a new hire. The dishwasher is seven years old and you could hear the drain pump struggling in it. After he Googled, he told me that I just needed to move my drain hose the he left. He did not even turn the dishwasher back on and do a test run. I turned the dishwasher back on, and 15 minutes later, it threw the code and wouldn't drain. I went to the American Home Shield site and put in a ticket that it still wasn't fixed. Two weeks later, he came back out and said that it was probably the pump. He called his manager to ask if he should replace the entire pump or just a part of the pump. The manager told him to replace the turbidity meter. I work in an environmental lab. I could tell straight up it was not the freaking turbidity meter.
He ordered the part. A couple of weeks later, he came out and installed it. He did not do a test run. I turned it on, and 15 minutes later, it did the same thing. I put in the ticket again. He called and was pulling up to the house. I told him, "You know it's the drain pump so just go ahead and order the drain pump." He installed the drain pump. He still did not do a test run before he left. I turned the dishwasher on and it would not even turn on. I had to run outside and catch the guy in the driveway. He never reconnected it whenever he installed the drain pump. I missed five days total of work and it was about three months. I'm not above handwashing dishes, but it was annoying.
But I love American Home Shield. I wouldn't wanna not have it. It's nice to have an appliance break down that would normally cost $400 or $500 and pay 100 bucks for it. My dryer went out last year. Instead of having to buy a new dryer, I paid American Home Shield 100 bucks for the service fee. They couldn't fix the dryer, so I got a brand-new dryer. There was one time when my AC went out in the middle of August. I live in Florida. It's an older model unit so it took them a couple of weeks to find the part and get it in. American Home Shield credited me with a free service after that.

We were in that home until 2014, and then we built a new home. We had such good experiences with American Home Shield in the past that we re-upped with them even though we had a much newer home. I like the fact that I can pay a monthly fee and don't have to worry about having to come up with thousands of dollars out of pocket all at once. The repairman who came for the fan motor on the AC unit that went out was fantastic. He was able to diagnose the issue quickly, showed me what was going on, and told me that he was gonna have to order a part. It was fixed very quickly.

Sometimes it's hit or miss with the service but when I explain to them that I don't want a particular company to come back ever again, they send somebody else. We had a hot water tank that exploded at the bottom and an HVAC issue. They fixed them both. Unfortunately, at the beach, it takes a long time to get somebody there. It's not that many people in the area to work. It’s isolated. Temperatures were extremely hot, and I had to wait seven days for somebody to come out to fix my HVAC. I had to go to Lowe's and buy a portable air conditioner to use in my bedroom while I waited for them to come and fix it. But once they came, they were superb.

The claims process for the garbage disposal was very smooth. They decided it was like I said - not able to be fixed. It was leaking. They went out, got a new one, and replaced it. But for the dishwasher, it took multiple trips. The contractor put $20 worth of parts on it and punched their ticket. There was an issue with the rack inside. They replaced the carrier on that. As for the other issue, they put the new seals on. But this dishwasher is 17 years old. Those seals lasted for 16 of the 17 years, and we run the dishwasher every day. The replacement seals lasted 60 days and it's back to leaking again. The new seals that they put on must be the cheapest seals known to mankind. Now, I have a towel at the bottom of my dishwasher as we run it. Because it's past my 30 days, if I call it in, they're gonna put a new pair of two cent seals on there.
I had a hot water heater go bad right before Christmas. It was leaking on the floor. I called American Home Shield and they opened a case. Two days later, I had been given outside approval to find my own vendor 'cause they couldn't find a vendor that would take the job. I'm disappointed in that. I have the coverage so I don't have to go surfing around on the internet and find my own people. I pay American Home Shield to have people on payroll. On December 27th, the guy that I found locally came out and did an estimate. He had to call American Home Shield and get approval as an outside vendor. He said, "It can't be fixed. It needs to be replaced." But American Home Shield didn't approve him. They said it was over their limit. I went out on my own after 22 days. I was calling and got a thousand call records at the call center, where people can never help you.
I've been badgering back and forth with them. Calling the call center is a horrible experience. English is not their first language most times. You can't hear them well. It seems like they're reading a lot of scripted stuff. I could never get ahold of a supervisor or a manager. I was denied 52 times sideways. Just this past week, I was given a call to say that I was being denied once again, even after all my notes, because I did the work without their approval. But nobody would call me. The website is limited. It is good that you can open a case on there. You can see your case on there too. But I can't get ahold of anybody. They have the chat thing. But they just say they're gonna get back to you on that. They don't fix your case. I can't see anything. When I go on there, it shows me that this plumbing company that's never called me in 14 days is still assigned to my case and they'll call shortly.
22 days in, American Home Shield still hadn't found a contractor to come to my house. The only guy that ever showed up was my guy. They said they wanted to get a second opinion. I waited another 10 days. They finally found a vendor who never showed up. I called that vendor two times. Finally, I paid over $3,000 to have it done. It's a very large hot water heater. It's expensive because it's power-vented. Now, I'm fighting with American Home Shield. I still haven't received money. I heard last week that somebody approved it, even though I was told no 10 times. The 11th time, I got an email that said a check could be sent to me within 7 to 21 days. I'm at day 30 now. It's still on my dime. The cost is good for my coverage, but it only counts if they cover a claim.

When you need appointments, you just sign into your account, tell them what the problem is, and one of their network people will schedule an appointment and come out. Flesher's Refrigeration was excellent. They had a few items to call us back on because we had questions, and they were very prompt on calling back. But I'm not so impressed with the plumber that American Home Shield sent out twice. I feel he's a scam artist. The last time I had the same issue where I needed a plumber to come out, I asked them to assign a different vendor, which they did. But it was further away and I ended up cancelling that service call because we figured out the problem on our own.

American Home Shield is a little overpriced and it's sometimes sold as a total home warranty, but it's not. It's like a warranty for appliances and systems, but not an actual home. As long as people understand the coverage and what they pay for though, it’s great. When there was no heat coming out of my dryer, we ran through the website and we were given two different phone numbers and an initial appointment date. The contractors then called me to let me know that they needed to move the initial appointment that was originally made through the website. When they arrived, they diagnosed the issue and realized that the heating element was bad. Originally, they were gonna order a new one because they didn't have the one that they needed on the truck, then they realized they could repair it. They were great. They repaired the heating element, reinstalled it, and so far, so good.

I changed the information for my payment, and American Home Shield called me because my debit card wasn't updated. That was how I found out that I had to pay more.
I'm an old customer, and everything changed since August, but they never called and said, "Hey, your contract is gonna be renewed. Everything's gonna change right now." I called to ask why my payment was higher than it used to be, and the rep explained that my contract was renewed automatically. She explained that I had 60 days after that to complain or ask for a lesser price, but nobody explained to me about that. I asked her if I could cancel and redo the contract because I had a paper that said that I can pay $54 monthly. It's gonna be less money for the service request, but she said, "If you want, you have to wait one month."

Customer service has been good. I like to call American Home Shield on the telephone so I can get a name and have a contact person when I call versus chatting with somebody online. Most of the time, when I file a claim, they text me the company's name to let me know, and the company usually reaches out to me and we work around each other's schedule.
Recently, my thermostat went out completely. The unit was still operating, but the thermostat died. I tried changing the batteries, and it still did not work. American Home Shield had someone come and replace the thermostat, and my daughter said the repairman was in and out. He checked the system outside, then he came back in. He finished everything the same day and he wasn't long. I would tell people to get American Home Shield. I enjoy them, and I have a lot of friends that have American Home Shield already. We all talk about our good experiences with them.

I like American Home Shield. I had them in Colorado for almost 11 years, and it's been almost 30 years since I've been dealing with them. They're a good company. I call them and within eight hours, somebody will call me back and let me know that the technician is coming. The technician will call and tell me when he's coming and what day and about what time. The technician will also call before he gets here and tell me about where he's at and how long it will take him to get here. When he's here, he cleans up everything, double-checks the job and makes sure the unit works. I'm satisfied with the service. My dryer quit recently, and when the technician came out, he had it up and running half an hour later.

Six months ago, I needed to have an air conditioning repair done and I did the request by phone and email because there was some confusion. I tried to schedule it online and the system didn't confirm it. I also talked to someone over the phone, but they didn't look at my account and they scheduled another one. I got charged even though the guy didn't come. It was a little confusing, but we got it straightened out. So it was fine.
The customer support has been good. Everyone's polite. That one situation, I had to fight a little to get my money back and that was a bit tedious. Generally though, I've been with American Home Shield for a while and I haven't had any problems. The service people have all been good. There have been times I've had to have somebody come back a couple of times to fix the problem, but generally, they were polite, on time and kept coming back until they got it fixed.
I like to insure things. It gives me peace of mind, and the few times that I've had incidents, American Home Shield has always handled it. My dishwasher broke a few years back and I got a new one. I just moved into a new house almost two years ago and the air conditioning needed some work and they were able to take care of that for me. Overall, it's been a good experience. I've told a lot of people about American Home Shield. They are great and I tell everybody to sign up.

With American Home Shield, I don't have to worry if something breaks. All I have to do is submit a claim, and somebody will come fix it. Everybody that's ever been to our house through American Home Shield has been wonderful. Recently, our air conditioner was not cooling the house at all. I did a service request on my phone through my account, and it was super easy. I love it. Also, our unit was so old and it couldn't be fixed, so we had to get new units. I would highly recommend American Home Shield.

Sometimes when I call American Home Shield, the people I talk to aren't that experienced. And a couple of times, they had to get the people who were doing the work on the line. Customer service is not always that good an experience. And sometimes, they don't understand what I was talking about. Recently, AHS had to end up replacing my AC. But it took a while because they tried to fix it several times. It finally stopped working. And they said, “You need a new one.” I've got a couple of people that knew what they were talking about and were able to help me. But a couple of times, they weren't, and they had to get the Comfort Expert on the phone.

American Home Shield gives homeowners peace of mind. My husband has a busy job. So, it takes some of the pressure off of the marriage when we could contact somebody and they would come out and handle it. Some mechanic wasn't cooling. I called. American Home Shield. I got through quickly. Normally, I would do a request online because they have that option. But I like to request L&L because their tech has done a lot of work for us and he's great. So, if I have a specific request, I would call in and see if that person is available. But we've had some come out and it has not gone well. We had to do a case with AHS where we were escalated to a specific team that handles those types of issues. But it was always resolved even if it has not gone as well as we hoped.

I had several plumbing issues. I filed a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor came out, and it wasn't the garbage disposal. It was something else. It was between the garbage disposal and the dishwasher. I couldn't figure it out. But they charged me for the garbage disposal anyway. They only let me put one item. They didn't let me say, “I think it's a garbage disposal,” or ”I'm not really sure because I'm not a plumber.” They ended up resolving it, but I had to pay for both of them. I had that same issue where I had to pay extra to fix something because it was installed incorrectly, so I understand that. They left a big hole, so I was worried about critters coming in. I called A1 and they said, “We'll report it to American Home Shield,” and they would have to come out. They never came out, and I ended up having a handyman fix it.

I thought American Home Shield was a good program, but it's not. I have a specialist that could do something but they're not in AHS' network. I have to use their network of people but they aren't qualified all the time. It would be nice to be able to expand the network. We had a pool heater problem and a pump problem. It was the plumbing problem because it still leaked. Last year they wouldn't fix it. And it was the heater because the heater would get fixed. American Home Shield tried to charge me too much. Clearene came and I had to buy my own pump because Clearene said that AHS wouldn't cover it. So, I ended up buying my own pump and paid Clearene to put it in myself.

If we had an issue, it has been very difficult to get someone from American Home Shield. It started out well. I even referred AHS to other friends. But as of late, things have changed. Customer service is not as quick. If I had a lot of problems, I would not get a person. So, to do it online, sometimes we got specific things. When we first got it, we were able to tell somebody something. They would tell us, “This falls here. You can do this.” And we could get something done under one visit if it was two things related. Now, if the choice is not there online, it’s difficult. And it's almost like, “I gotta choose one thing or the other.” And we haven't been happy with that.
If we had two plumbing issues but one was not listed online, we would not be able to choose that other one. That was the last occurrence we had. So, if you don't get a person on the phone to explain it, you have to now pay another deductible fee for someone to come out. And that wasn't good. And it seemed like there are certain things that they cut back when they changed it to making sure you had to do the payment online. I understand this business. It seemed the customer service went down to us.
The contractors we've had come out have been great people. AHS would find someone that is local to do the job. And the companies that came out have been okay. The problem is with AHS not covering specific things. We had a toilet issue. And something that they used to cover, they didn't anymore. That was different because the contractor had to call and get approval, and send pictures in to see if it qualified. It got more nitpicky now. So, we shopped around to see if there was something else we wanted to explore and if there was anything else out there that’s equivalent or better.

It's a racket going on. I had an issue with my refrigerator door. American Home Shield sent out two different one star rating service providers. So, I called AHS and said I was a little concerned. I read all the reviews. Majority of them said that these contractors come out and write up the work order so it appeared that it was the customer's negligence. It happened to me. The first gentleman came out. My refrigerator door's hinges came off. Told me everything was fine. I waited. When I called AHS, they said, "The claim is denied due to what the technician wrote up." I said, "Ma'am I don't agree with that. Can you send out another one?" So, they sent out another gentleman. His rating was a 1.
He said that it was just normal wear and tear, no negligence to the customer. So, I called AHS back again. I've already paid my service fee to them. I said, "Can you send me my money back if you're not gonna fix the door?" And she said, "Sorry about the misunderstanding. That a particular part is not covered up under your warranty." I said, "I don't agree with that. I have the best plan that money can buy with y'all." They fought me tooth and nail, and tried all kinds of shenanigans not to fix the freezer door. They fixed it, but it took a good week and a bunch of phone calls and questioning things. They went from, "We only go by the technician," to, "I'm not covered." And when I didn't buy it on that, they decided to fix it. So, it's some scamming going on with them. Because if you are a reputable company, I don't see the benefit of using people whose ratings are 1. But that's their commonplace thing.
The contractor writes the contract so they don't have to fix it, but they're still getting paid for coming out to the house. But AHS is leaving the customer stuck, and it's hard. If I was not persistent, I would lose with them. And all of that is on record. Allegedly, they record every conversation. And I know that they got a lot of lawsuits going. But I believe there are some scamming going on with them, between them and the contractors that they used.
When I asked that question, they said they don't base which contractors they use off of their reputation or rating. That doesn't make sense. Wouldn't they want the best, not the worst, representing their company? I've talked to people that the contractor said he ordered parts. It's a lot that they continually to use the same contractors that most people are complaining about. That means a red flag. They're in cahoots.

Having American Home Shield is convenient. It gives a sense of security that if anything went wrong, they would repair it. They don't work for big things. If there was a minor crack that has been in a stove for 20 years, they won't do anything. They won't repair. But for newer appliances, they're good. Also, they're not very fast, but they solve the problem. My AC motor was bad and AHS replaced it. It was taken care of. It was two days during the heat wave. It was fast. I also had a repair for a stove. AHS did it within four days. The techs didn't speak a lot of English, but they took care of the problem.

If my appliance breaks down, AHS would come and fix it. But the $100 upfront fee that you have to pay is a minus on them. I found somebody that was cheaper and they do the same thing. Other than that, the companies that AHS sends out to your house pretty much do things in a timely manner. They sent the electrician to change my ceiling fan out and the service was fine. I also had a claim for my faucet where the techs had to replace it and that experience was good. But when I had a problem with my refrigerator, the techs had to get a part for it and it took a little bit of time. Aside from that, when a tech had to come and fix my toilet, he stayed here for two minutes and said that it was fixed. But about a couple months later I had the same problem. They had to come out and switch out the whole kit on the inside. That was another $100.

In order to get things done, it takes forever and has in the past. This time, it was awesome. My hot water heater's light went out. It's not talking with the representative that's of concern with American Home Shield. It's getting someone out here in a timely manner. But that was not the case this time. The person came out quickly and got it taken care of. He was wonderful. However, I've had AHS for 23 years and over the time, I have been very dissatisfied. Because there was one time in the summer when I didn't have air conditioning for over a month. And getting my hot water heater taken care of would take 10 days or it would happen another time frequently. After several attempts with my air conditioner, AHS provided a new one. Hopefully, AHS would improve.

I do my claims online using American Home Shield's website. The site is great. Typically, they give me the name of the contractor or the company that the ticket’s routed to, and their contact information. I have peace of mind knowing that I can just submit a ticket, especially if it's something that comes on sudden and typically, within 48 hours, somebody's here or responded. I have not had any issues at all with contracting companies. Every one that's responded has been professional and courteous. They've come and done their job and if there was something they had to order, they let me know.
AHS is very responsive. You pay the premium and you pay the ticket fee of $75 but a lot of times, I found there have been a couple of instances where the repair was over that amount. I'm handy but if I’m gonna have to climb under something or get on a ladder, I don't have to get my hands dirty. I know other people go to different training schools and other schools and get certified and things. Why not let the person that's certified to do it do it?” Someone came for the air conditioner. They diagnosed the problem and fixed it. I ended up having to get a brand new AC. But prior to that, they diagnosed it and got a new part in and replaced it.

I'm happy with American Home Shield in a lot of aspects but it only takes a couple of bad experiences to sour somebody's opinion. My entire job is contracts. It was cut in black and white that there was a refusal to honor AHS' contractual agreement. I was displeased with my dishwasher. I opened the dishwasher and it fell out of the hole. So, I submitted a claim and AHS took my money. The contractor came and said, "I can't reinstall it. They won't pay for a reinstall," even though it clearly states contractually that they cover faulty installation. And they said, "You need to call the people who installed it." But I bought this house with it in it. I didn't install it. It was because it is a newer dishwasher, but whoever the previous owner of the property had installed it did a piss-poor job within a few days of whenever we took ownership of it. They refused to honor their contract in that instance.
I went out in the garage and there was water all over underneath the heater. I turned the water off and cleaned up the water. A couple of days later, the contractor came out and said, "There's water stains underneath it." So, AHS refused to pay for my water heater because the contractor said there was staining. I was annoyed with that.
The app is effective. Somebody that issues with electronics, specifically, like an older generation might have some hard times with it, but I don't have any problems with it. According to my contract, there are things that are covered that do not show up on the app. Within the first few months that we moved in, I had some leaking in my plumbing in my bathroom, and randomly, it would gush out. I submitted a claim on my app and the contractor came out did stuff. It started doing it again, for some reason. So, a couple of days I filed a claim and it says leaking faucet, but it's like not leaking shower stall.

Out of the three times that I've used American Home Shield, I had one bad experience. I call because I couldn't get through from the app. They updated their something so it kept logging me into my old account. I anticipated a contractor to come. It was for my washer. They came, but were in a rush. It almost came off a bit rushed and rude. And whatever the tech put in the report, which I disagreed with, was not valid. AHS will cover other repairs. But they don't cover anything for the washer. I've used them two other times, and those were very good. I would encourage using AHS.

I don't like having to do the automated thing. It's all right. But I speak to foreigners when they finally answer, and I prefer to speak to an American because I can understand them. Also, the tech for my stove kept being late. He would say, “I'm sorry. I was in a car accident.” And the next day, he would show up. Or, “I can't make it here.” The contractors are hit and miss. But whenever I call to make a complaint, AHS would send me somebody else from a different company. And I would tell them, “Don't send that person again.”
I don't recommend AHS to my clients because there's another program that’s this much. There's another home warranty that does a lot more. If you get the right plan, if they install something that's not up to code, they will fix it and make it up to code. American Home Shield doesn't do that. But I stay with them because I'm not gonna keep my house and they have all my documents for all my repairs.
