I saw a leak in our kitchen which was a bubble in the wallboard of the ceiling. I called American Home Shield and they had someone come over within a couple of days. The person who came out cut open that hole where the water was coming through there and said that when he looked up there, there was plywood up there. He said he could not cut through the plywood to take care of the leak, and that I would have to call American Home Shield again.

I knew a contractor that we've used in the past that does a good job and he was the one who came out on a Thursday to look at the problem. I thought I would have him just cut the hole but he said it would be better to take care of it upstairs where a pipe seemed to be leaking. Then he came back on Sunday and opened the hole upstairs because it was a more direct way to get to the pipe that was leaking. He also got new pipe to put in, and he put the wallboard back and taped it. Then he's going to have to come back to do mudding and painting. But he got busy so he wasn't able to do that immediately. Right now, they got fans and heaters on there. But the main part of the leak was fixed, so that was really good. He came today and it turned out that it's still drying. So he's going to come tomorrow to paint it.

All in all, I liked AHS. They were very responsive and the contracting company, Sundance, was very responsive as well. Plus, the young man who came out was very earnest. But I've had contractors in different situations over the years and I could tell he was a little bit greener but he was very thorough. So, I would recommend AHS. In our situation, we just needed to get the leak fixed right away.

I love AHS. They do their job and when I use the service, I'm always satisfied. A couple of times, I had to pay out of pocket. But the vendors are very good and I never had a problem. I wish AHS would lower my payment and a couple of people tried to get me to leave them and go to the ones they have. They said AHS is a little bit much. But I tell them that I'm comfortable with AHS. It's a very good insurance.

American Home Shield has been good. It's not a terrible service. It's well worth it. Our refrigerator was messing up and our washing machine went out. The weird thing is, they could have fixed the refrigerator, but they chose to replace it. We upgraded to a better refrigerator for 60 bucks out of pocket. They gave us the value of the refrigerator because I didn't like the one that they offered to replace it with. But on our washing machine, they've almost paid double to repair it than what the washing machine cost and it's still causing issues. So, they're good. It's just their processes don't make sense sometimes.

The contractors they send out are really good. I feel bad for the one who saw the refrigerator and the washer because they've had to send him out four times to fix the washer. He came out and looked at it. He was like, "They'll probably replace it because this is like $1,000 worth of parts." Then he was like, "Nope, they chose to order the parts. I'll let you know when they come in." It's only a $600 washing machine. So, they paid $1,000 for parts for a $600 washing machine, and then they redid it. They had to order more parts, and then they had to order more parts. I was like, "At what point do y'all just replace it?" Overall, still, we're satisfied and would recommend AHS. It's just a little pricey but my wife said that making a claim is really easy through them.

The light in the microwave wasn't turning on. I submitted a claim through the website, which was pretty easy to go through. When the contractor came in, they did a quick test and then left. But the first guy misdiagnosed the problem. The second guy had to order another part. It was something that the first guy didn't test. It took about three weeks to fix it. I've only used American Home Shield for a little bit. But as far as I've used it, I was pretty satisfied. They follow through.

When I submitted a claim, it was quick and pretty easy. You're not talking to a live person, but they will ask you what you need, and you tell them, and they will go ahead and take that money and then tell you which service will be contacting you. The contractor will contact you in the next 24 hours and set an appointment, and then come fix it. My last work was for an electrician for my garbage disposal. The switcher was not working so he had to come fix it. He was on time. I wasn't even home when he got here, and he was kind enough to wait for me. Then about 20 minutes, it was done and it's been working perfectly ever since. Everyone that I've been getting from American Home Shield has been on top. But when I first started, I had an issue with my AC and I had a couple of techs that wasn't doing it, but they ended up changing a different company, and they came in and got the job done.

I had a faulty dishwasher and there was some confusion as to whether it was the plumber or the appliance guy. They went back and forth. Nussbaumer was fine but Express Appliance didn't communicate well and the worker who came out relayed the wrong information and it turned into a nightmare. As a result, I've been without water in my kitchen for three weeks. The plumber turned it off at the kitchen sink. He said the dishwasher was so bad that it was going to keep leaking and he didn't want it to cause damage. They had to order a part for my dishwasher once the whole issue was figured out. Hopefully, it'll be resolved tomorrow because we finally narrowed it down to the appliance and not the plumbing. American Home Shield is fine and I love it. I’ve had it for a year and I fully intend to continue it.

But one of the contractors that they sent, ATR Heating and Cooling, told me one thing and told AHS another and it was back and forth. This happened in December and I didn't get service until February. But it was not the workers, it was the people working at the customer service and it wasn't AHS’s fault. Also, I haven't had any issues with AHS's customer service so far, although half the time, I can't understand what they're saying and I have to have them repeat themselves more than once.

American Home Shield was great. They followed up very quickly and got us on the schedule. I worked with the person who contracted the plumber for our water heater and it was seamless and easy. The plumber was very informative and told us exactly what was needed. He was good and I liked him. He was very businesslike and did what he was supposed to do, and told us what to expect. He did the inspection and then came out to install the new heater. He was very professional both times. We had the water heater replaced and we paid 150 bucks for labor, installation, and haul away of a big 100-pound water heater. Without AHS, the cost of doing it would be in the thousands of dollars. Our warranty service was $695 for the year so we got our money's worth.

We used AHS initially for the air conditioning. We had just moved in and a couple of the rooms were not cooling properly. So we had an air conditioning technician come out. He was very thorough. He looked at the air conditioning up the attic and outside, and even took temperature readings in every room. It was determined that the air conditioning was installed correctly but to make it any cooler, we would need a new venting, which would have been a huge undertaking and a huge expense. So we chose not to do that. But he was good too. American Home Shield’s website is what I've used to initiate the appointments and it's easy to use. You go to their website, tell them what the problem is and click through. You can set up an appointment in less than five minutes and after that, you work with the person that they designate.

The very last time E & E Heating was dispatched out, the tech arrived on time but he has to come back because he did not seal my air condition properly. It's peeling away from the building. He also cracked the concrete of my house. It was not a very good experience. The tech was supposed to come a couple of weeks before that and he did not cancel. I took the day off work to be there and I didn't hear from him for a week. We've been with American Home Shield on one of our homes for four years and on another one since August of last year. But after this whole experience, I'll be leaving American Home Shield as soon as my air conditioner is fixed.

I don't like anything about the program. Their customer service is terrible. You ask to speak with a supervisor and they transfer you, I can only assume, to one of their friends who pretend they're a supervisor. And then you find out at the very end it's not. My husband’s primary language is Spanish but everybody that I spoke with had a very heavy accent. I could not understand them and they could not understand me. And the last lady yelled at me. I'm done. I'll never recommend AHS to anybody.

He had everything he needed on site, so he didn't have to order anything, which was great. The only thing that I didn't like with AHS is their rates are going up. I've been with American Home Shield for seven years and my experience has been sometimes good, sometimes bad. When my AC broke down the last time, they were quick to service it and repair it. The last few repairs were taking forever. It's been hard to get a technician and anybody on the phone. This last repair was really bad. They canceled my appointment on several occasions without me rescheduling. The parts were not available and they took forever to arrive. The technician didn't even take the used parts. The used parts are still in my house right now. They never took them. They finally fixed it, but I'm not very pleased with the way the service went down. However, several years back, my AC compressor broke and the technician came out, inspected it quickly within a couple of days, and in less than two weeks, I had a new compressor and it was installed with no extra charges to me. It was fast.

I got a washing machine and a refrigerator, work on my dishwasher and my oven. We're in the process of seeing if the pieces for my oven can be repaired or whether I get a new oven. They're great. I recommend them to everybody. I would continue forever with it. I wouldn't cancel it. It's more important than life insurance because things go wrong and you don't always have a thousand dollars to replace an appliance.

Subject: Nightmare Experience with American Home Shield. I've had an absolutely horrendous experience with American Home Shield's home appliance services, particularly their inability to fix my refrigerator over the last 90 days. It's been nothing short of a nightmare. I initially reported the issue with my fridge three months ago, and since then, it's been one disappointment after another. The customer service has been appalling – unhelpful and seemingly indifferent to my predicament. I've spent more time on hold than I care to admit, only to be met with empty promises and excuses.

The technicians they sent out have been nothing short of incompetent. Not only have they failed to resolve the issue, but they've also managed to make matters worse. It's as if they have zero training or knowledge about the appliances they are supposed to fix. To add insult to injury, the communication has been abysmal. I've had to chase them for updates, and when I do manage to get through to someone, they're unable to provide any concrete information about the status of the repair. It's like dealing with a black hole of incompetence. At this point, I've lost all faith in American Home Shield's ability to deliver on their promises. I wouldn't wish this level of frustration and disappointment on my worst enemy. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for home appliance services. This has been an absolute disaster from start to finish.

Now when you call it is somebody overseas. When you ask for an American they say there isn't one. You ask for a phone number to speak to an American there isn't one. I had A/C service done and they only paid $10 for the freon and it cost over $800. I needed my well pump fixed and they couldn't find anyone to come out. And I paid extra for that. A couple occasions they had to call another service technician because the other never showed up. And now when my contract ended I told them to cancel my contract. They kept sending me bills which I did not pay. They sent it to collections where I had to pay about $285 so it wouldn't affect my great credit. So I paid for services I didn't want or use!!

American Home Shield's customer service is an insult to the customer. They protect their contractors at any and all risk to their customers. When you call you are given the same speech by every representative. They will all tell you that the contractor has 48 hours to work with you, despite it being well past 48 hours at the time of the call. They do not take notes so when you reference the previous calls they will claim they have no record of a previous call. We are stuck in an endless loop of wait for your contractor 48 hours to call you, them not calling, and being told to wait 48 more. The only option is to cancel the appointment (and then waste your policy hiring someone else) or wait forever. Meanwhile, who knows how much damage is being done to your property as you wait.

When he left, the heater didn't work. I called him up and said, "I'm freezing here. There's no heat." He said, "We thought you were gonna be gone for two months." I don't know where they got this story. When I called American Home Shield, they said, "We have to wait for the report. We can't do anything till we get the report." This went on for about two weeks. Then I was told the part won't be in till March 7th. This is after making several calls to AHS and the subcontractor. Could barely understand the foreign language of the vendor (Accord Appliance) so I continued to contact AHS for follow up. As of today February 26th, still not sure if or when our washer will be repaired. Keep being told that I would receive a call from the Technician (which I have never received any calls from any technician). I am the only one calling AHS and Accord Appliance. Looks like I am going to have to buy another washer the one I have is only 5 years old. AHS is a terrible company to deal with. The service use to be great. Filing a claim online is the way to go 'cause it gives me the option of how I wanna proceed, and it's more convenient that way. Any time I put in a request, I have gotten a response. But with the way things are set up now, it's not quick. The timeline is excessive. It's a good thing it wasn't my fridge, it was just a washing machine. But two weeks without a washer is a little bit inconvenient. A contractor came out in one week to do an analysis, make a recommendation and submit a report to order parts. They saw an error code, which I put in my reasons for needing the service. That part went quickly but the next available appointment was in a week from that point. If I did not have the warranty and called a repairman, they would have fixed it.

When I called in for a service last year for my refrigerator, they diagnosed the problem as a condenser. Condensers on refrigerators are not cheap and they don't used refurbished parts. It's a slightly older fridge and their freon may have changed. It was an extensive repair, but it still was working at the time. AHS told me there was not gonna be an approval for a repair because the unit has not conked out. I paid for a service call, but all I got for that was a diagnosis and no service. It's been clunking and knocking for over a year. My fridge has gotten older now and if it conked out and they don't want to fix it because of its age, they may offer to replace it. But now, the value of it has gone down. Also, my rates have gone up. I'm wondering whether I will continue on down the road with AHS much longer.

When the technicians came out to work, they were working on something or something wasn't taken care of. They just called me then two guys showed up. They removed the old one, put the new one in, gave me the manual, and left. I ordered the replacement online. AHS gave me multiple options and I could either take the free exchange one, which was close to the version I have, or I could pay a little bit of money and get an upgraded version. I paid $90 and got one that had sensors.

Last year, my heater died and a company called Fix-It 24/7 came out. They took a look at it and said they got to rebuild the thing. That was $5,000. Then they came out and checked my electrical. It turned out that I had five dead smoke detectors and that cost me $800. So I decided to get AHS and with them, I could just pay $90 a month and not have to deal with any of this. The downside is you have to pay $125 deductible every time you use American Home Shield and I didn't know that.

Our refrigerator in a rental unit I own that's inside this condominium community where I live had quit cooling and water was collecting in the bottom of the refrigerator. But my tenant told me that the freezer was still all right. AHS sent out a tech from TN and they got in touch very rapidly. It was almost an instantaneous response. They made an appointment and the tech was on time. He had to go and get a different part. So, it was fixed the next morning. But it was done very satisfactorily to everybody concerned and my tenant didn't lose much food because he was able to put the food into a cooler.

If it was me who had to look around and find somebody and all of that kind of thing, I don't know how it would have gone. So, I'm very happy with the policy and with the vendor that came to fix the fridge. I'd tell my friends to go for AHS. Even though I can afford anything that happens in the condo, I like to be able to make one phone call or just let somebody know that we need help and know it's going to get taken care of. It's a bargain.

It's difficult to get with someone that I could understand. American Home Shield outsources them from Mexico or India. Because a lot of times, I wouldn't understand their accent. And the only thing I could think is that these people are out of the country. And when I asked them certain questions, they could not answer me. They do not understand nor they do not have the answers to certain questions.

The only thing that I had a problem with were two things. Both of them were HVAC. One was the heater unit and one was the AC unit. The heater unit went out. I've been in the house for over 15 years and had American Home Shield for over 15 years. And when the contractor came out, they said the heating unit was bad and needed to be replaced. They replaced the heating unit and charged me $4,000. But I said, "Wait a minute. You're supposed to replace it for free if you can't repair it." They couldn't repair it. So, I said, "Where did the $4,000 come from?" I even paid them $100. They said modification fees.

I said, "You didn't modify anything. If you took the old unit and, I guess, rebuild it or whatever, I could see modifications. But you basically took a new unit dropping in and you said, because you had to attach it to the central system, that that's a modification." And they did this in the middle of the wintertime and I got kids in my house. So, I was stuck with paying the $4,000, which I did not have at the time. They wouldn't do anything until I paid it. I paid it because I had kids in the house. And it's only the HVAC that I would have these problems with where if I called for AC unit repair in the beginning of the summer, it would be the end of the summer before contractors showed up to fix it, and the summer would be over.

They would tell me that I was on the waiting list. Same thing, whether it was air or heat. My AC unit doesn't work because they showed up at the end of the summer. But I sat there and watched the guy let the Freon out. First, he said I needed a new AC unit, which didn't surprise me. But when I asked him, "Are you gonna give me a new AC unit? And I'm not paying no modification fees for this." The guy said, "You're gonna have to contact American Home Shield."

When I called them, the dude said that it wasn't broken and that I needed Freon. I said, "Wait a minute. He told me it was broken. Now, he's saying Freon." But they would charge so much money for Freon. I would pay more just for Freon than buying a new unit. I'm not paying them $3,000 for no Freon when I sat there and watched them let it out. I already told AHS that I would get rid of them. I'm not even dealing with them anymore. Leave them alone.

When I needed American Home Shield, it was easy. It's good team work where people come out when they're supposed to. It would be all the more important for someone that lives in an older home and who have lived there for a while, which is most people. The contractor did fine. It was just me with the setting on the dryer. I thought the heating element was going out in it. And the gentleman was nice. He said that I needed to use the time side of it. And it was true. When I started using that for certain things, things were dry completely like they needed to be. I just didn't use it properly.

I'm ticked off at American Home Shield. I reached out with them about my dryer. I pay $42 a month. In order for a contractor to come out and fix my dryer, it would cost me $138. They came out and fixed it. The first time I called them, they came on February 8th. But I'm still without a dryer. They've been out here three times for the same part. They're not supposed to be out until the 27th. When they first came out, they were supposed to come out for my drum. My drum made noise on my dryer. They said it needed new wheels. So, they put new wheels on it. And the tech said my heating element looked like it was going bad. So, he replaced it.

It was three days and my heating element went out. So, he came back out and set a part that was on the heating element, which was a new part went bad. So, a part on the new part went bad. He fixed that. We used the dryer one time and it went bad. So, I called him. It took him five days to get out here. When he came, he said the heating element went bad and they would have to order the part. And it would take at least a week for them to get the part in and they would be back out to fix it. That would make it the 27th until they got back out here. This has started on February the 8th. I'm still waiting for my dryer to get fixed. Prepare to wait.

We had several problems with the washing machine. I am still concerned. It never got fixed. It's still a weird thing. The contractor had five visits for one appliance. But it might be that specific washing machine. Other than that, everybody on the phone from American Home Shield and the people that have come to the house have been very polite and professional.

The warranty was purchased through the title company by a Realtor and it was purchased with that ZIP. The title company had one ZIP code. And the post office has another. At some point this whole city was 95501. And some many years ago, it branched off into other ZIP codes. 95503 is ours. But the home warranty was written from the title company so it has the wrong ZIP code. I didn't realize it was the different ZIP code. And now, I just put in the wrong ZIP code, the 95501, to get into the account and it would work. However, AHS couldn't change it. That doesn't seem right. Otherwise, I'm happy.

I had leaks on my kitchen sink and on my washer-hot water hookup. Then, when I flushed one of my toilets, my other toilet would bubble up. I also had a problem with the water line for my refrigerator. I was on my online account with AHS to file my claim, but I was also on the phone speaking to an agent and they were the ones that submitted the claim for me. I've always had a pleasant experience with the plumbers that they sent out. This is the second time they've come out here for the toilet issue and they did great. They did everything they could do. They couldn't do my hookup for the refrigerator, but it didn't really matter because it was already hooked up and it was not leaking. It's just that the spigot that's on there is not a standard spigot. The gentleman explained that to fix that is a whole lot of work because we have to cut into the wall and redo our whole pipe, then put the spigot. It was a little bit too much, so I told him to just leave it.

Before I moved here, I had a home warranty program and it was great. But I was in a remote location because I was out in the country, and I had a hard time finding people to come and do the work or it would take a long time. And with that home warranty that I had, if you have a problem, you submit the claim, then you find whoever needs to fix the problem and they will pay them directly. And all you do is pay your deductible. So, I like American Home Shield better because they're the ones that find the people for me. It's less work on my part. When my first year warranty expired here on February the 10th, I went ahead and renewed my coverage then I added some other coverages that I didn't have before. But my deductible used to be $100 and they went up to $125. So, I need to call AHS back and see what can we do about that because it was something that they didn't tell me was going to happen when I renewed my contract.

We bought the house and the ice maker was working when we had the inspection done. When I went there, I noticed it was off. So, I turned it on, and I noticed a few days later the ice maker was not making ice. That was when I called American Home Shield. Accord came out and the tech was wonderful. He showed me that the wiring harness came undone and he had to replace or fix it.

When he left, he said it would take 24 to 48 hours for it to start making ice. 48 hours later, I heard ice drop and fall and I was relieved and thought, "Okay, this is it." But we had to leave to come back to our home in Canada and I didn't get to see if more ice was made until recently. When someone was at the house doing something in there for me, I asked them to check on the ice machine and no new ice had been made.

I called Accord Appliances because my service provider said, "You have 30-day warranty on this service call." There was something else other than that wiring harness. So, I've been waiting. I called AHS the day before and asked for a recall. I got the confirmation over email, dispatch ID. And last night I got another email saying, "If you haven't been contacted by Accord Appliances, please call them directly," which I am holding off.

I would do it by the end of today, if I had heard from a technician because I'm in Canada. I have to make arrangements for someone to join or meet at the property. I'm on alert because I wanna get this fixed. I would give them until the end of today to contact me. But AHS has been doing their job. We hope this one gets resolved.

The techs that AHS assigned to us responded quickly. They were all very professional and very courteous, too. My heating went out recently and AHS had somebody here from Parker's Heat & Air the very next day. They were able to order whatever parts were needed and resolve the matter. They were super sweet, kind, and knowledgeable.

But when I moved to another location while I still owned the other home, I canceled the service on the other home to get it here at my new home and AHS did not put it on my new home. They renewed it on my old home. So, when I had an issue, the guy came to my old house. He called me and said he was knocking on my door. But I told him I was at my new address. It was really difficult to get that straightened out. The main reason being that I kept getting the international people on the phone and they could not grasp what I was telling them. I know it was not their fault, but I got really frustrated. I eventually got this wonderful little girl in HR and her name was Lauren. She understood the situation and I loved her dearly. But that was a three-week ordeal before I got it resolved.

Other than that, AHS has done well with everything. But the price has gone up quite a bit. When I first started with them, the service call fee was 85, and now it's 122. So, I was not too happy about that increase, but I know it's like the rest of the world. The bad thing is once they go up, they seldom come back down to what it was.

I called American Home Shield up and said there was a problem with our roof. A vendor called me and then we set up an appointment and they came out and evaluated the roof. They canceled on us, which is a problem. They came out and evaluated and then said they were gonna talk to American Home Shield. In the meantime, I called American Home Shield, and they said that I canceled the vendor, 24/7, which isn't true at all. I told American Home Shield that, so they have referred me to another vendor. My experience with the second company was not great. It took a long time for me to get ahold of them. The technician who came out didn't look prepared and said he was gonna do something and he didn't do it. He said he was gonna take care of it and provide an estimate. Either American Home Shield is not telling the truth or the vendor is not telling the truth, but they said that I canceled the service, which was not the case.

AHS didn't do anything. They sent me to another vendor who didn't come out at all either, and then they said we could go find our own roofing guy and that they would reimburse me. I would still have the service done and submit receipts and they would reimburse me a certain amount. The first guy said he did a diagnosis verbally and said he would submit it to American Home Shield, but then they said that I canceled, which didn't happen. American Home Shield sent out another person and then they called back because those people didn't call me either. They said, "Why don't we just have you go find your own person and then we'll reimburse you."

I thought AHS would cover the damage under the contract that I have with them. They're skirting around. I have another issue with my air conditioner and it's very clear on there that they're supposed to repair the air conditioner and they made all kinds of excuses and said they can't do it when it's very clear that they are supposed to fix air conditioners on my agreement. They're now stating, apparently, because of the way the air conditioner is located, it's gonna take too much time and it's gonna be too costly. So, they're coming up with some kind of crazy excuses why they can't do it. I'm having an attorney right now look into that because that's ridiculous.

The service is horrendous. The agents at American Home Shield don't even speak English or they speak very broken English. They sound like robots and they don't listen to your concerns. They just repeat some scripted thing to you. In fact, one time I called, it was clear that somebody else was talking through the lady's ear and trying to tell her what to tell me. So, it's all scripted. It's choreographed to try to get around listening to customers and their real concerns and then handling it in a professional way instead of just repeating and sending me someone down. They make you call back all the time.

Every time you call back, you have to start from scratch with the agents. They don't put notes in their system. So you're starting from scratch, wasting lots of time on the phone. I think it's just one of their strategies to wear you down so that you just give up. Their agents talk really slow, so they take a lot of time and they intentionally annoy you. Then, they don't follow through on what they're supposed to do on the contract.

My central heat unit went out and it has some kind of fan motor. It went out when it was 25 degrees. It went out January 15th. The contractor came out and checked it. They said they needed to order a part. So, I contacted American Home Shield. They said that as long as the part was available they couldn’t replace my unit. I had to wait one to two months for a part. So, they tried to call me, and the 12th, they came back with the part and put it in. But during that time, I had no heat in my home. I had to use electric heaters.

People came the same day when I called in to AHS, but it took them from January to February the 12th to order the part. They said it would take one to two months. It was during the coldest time of the year. I had to use all electric heaters I had and my light bill went up dramatically. I told the lady, “Y'all can help me out in American Home Shield.” She said, “All we can do is give you $900 toward a new unit. You gotta pay the difference. But if we can't find the part, we have to replace it.” But isn't that what they said. I've had the warranty with them for many years. Whenever I had a problem, if they couldn't repair it, they would replace it. “As long as the part is available, we gotta take a chance on repairing it.” I said, “But, ma’am, it's cold. It's freezing cold.” My wife is here and we had to burn three electric heaters in one room to keep warm.

Two years ago, my refrigerator went out and it needed a computer board in it. They came out and said they couldn't repair. They called back AHS. When the contractor shipped it and had it repaired, a month and a half later, Miles came back and put that board in. As soon as they did that, it wouldn't work. AHS had to replace my refrigerator, but I was without a refrigerator for two months or more. They said the part not available. They gotta order it. For the refrigerator, they took the board and had it rebuilt. It took a long time to rebuild it. When they rebuilt it, it still wouldn't work. So, they finally got me a refrigerator. I had to go around the different stores and find a refrigerator, and they paid for it.

It's very difficult to get through to anybody at American Home Shield customer service-wise. What I would have to do is call the sales department, which someone would answer immediately. And I would have to tell them, "I've been on hold with your service department for an hour and I get hung up on." If I had trouble submitting a claim online, I would have to call and they would be very difficult to get ahold of.

There's one experience with my garage in which the sensors in my garage weren't working. And then they sent out a technician. The technician said that the sensors on the garage were being obstructed by sunlight. "And so, that's why it wouldn't close properly and we can't service it." I asked why. They said, "Well, American Home Shield will not service it." I asked why. They gave us some very obscure answer.

And I had to call back to get a refund because they didn't help me out. It was very difficult to get that refund because they first objected to it. Iif no one helped me, I had to call someone else out of pocket for it. Eventually, I got it. But aside from those two experiences, it's generally what people expect from a home warranty program.

Most of the technicians are not very professional. They would come into your home without putting on booties and walk around with their shoes on. And even when you ask them to take off their shoes 'cause you have a newborn, they seem to have some kind of attitude about it. I'm trying to think what [unclear 0:02:56] experience is. The most recent experience I had was with my garage door again. Again, the service technician people came out, they're very nice, very professional, and very insightful. But I've had the plumbing issue, they sent out the contractor they work with, they're not very professional but they get the job done. It depends on which contractor AHS sent out to, depending on which issue I had. Like the garage door guys this past time were very kind. I had two issues with my garage door. The second time around, they were very kind and professional.

When I had American Home Shield years ago, I used to call them. But this time, I tried online because it was at night when I submitted the claim. It worked fine. The dryer made an ugly noise. I could hear it from outside. I thought it was the belt. The tech checked it and said, "It's the rotors." He came the next day because he didn't have it on stock in his vehicle. So, he came the next day and fixed it.

I've been recommending AHS. They asked me, "How do you go with that warranty?" Once I had it because when I bought the house, they had that kind of warranty. A few years later, they wanted to go up on the price. I told them it's a good guarantee. It's a good plan that I have, but it's too high for me. I couldn't afford it. I had to go there to explain to them that I had to cancel it.

I thought it was a good idea to get it again. That was when I decided last year to get it. And things happen. I could never expect it. I used to pay 30. But they wanted to go up to 50. So this time, I checked the price. It was 41. I said, "I'll get it, as long as I can afford it." Hopefully, AHS would have those promotions and they would go down to a better price. But for now, it's okay. I would keep it as long as I could. I've been telling the family's boys that it's good. Because I live by myself and it's hard with one only income. And right now, everything is so expensive.

We ended up canceling our policy because of how American Home Shield behaved. Our fridge broke. We called to have it repaired. They scheduled with us. I would have to look up the name of the company, but I believe it was called All County. And the gentleman came out to repair it. He said that the compressor was completely blown on it. It was hot to the touch like it was a fire hazard and everything. Unplugged the fridge and said that it was completely shot, and that it was not repairable, and that we would need to have our fridge replaced, and that he was filing that paperwork that said as such with AHS, that was his diagnosis. And we should hear from AHS within been a day or two and they would let us know the process of replacing the bridge and how that worked.

So we said, “No problem.” And then we happened to call AHS the next day because we were just curious how the process would work, so we could kind of start looking around and figure out what we needed to do. We knew it would take a day or two for them to process the paperwork, but we wanted to know how it was going to work. They told us how it works to replace one, no problem. So, we researched fridges, and we thought it was a done deal.

All of a sudden, I got an email saying, “Thank you for scheduling service with Jeffrey's Appliances. A technician will be in contact with you shortly to schedule a date and time.” I thought, “Well, I didn't file a new claim.” It was specifically worded as though I filed a new claim. I had not because I thought it was done. So, we called AHS, asked what was going on, and they said, “Oh yeah. It's to fix your fridge.” I said, “I don't understand. Somebody already came out, gave his diagnosis, turned in his paperwork, and you guys have now decided that apparently, you want a second opinion. Didn't call us. Didn't explain it to us. Didn't tell us. And they filed a new claim and on our behalf.”

We called Jeffrey's Appliance, because at that point, we've been without a fridge for almost a week, which was a pain, but it was inconvenient for us. We called Jeffrey's Appliance to see if they could schedule us quicker, how soon they could get us in, and they were wonderful. They were bent over backwards to try to work with us.

In the meantime, we're calling AHS to find out how or why they did this, like how that was okay, how that worked with our contract, why they did that without even contacting us. Well, we spent an entire day on the phone with AHS, at least five or six phone calls. They would constantly hang up on us. They wouldn't let us talk to a manager. They wouldn't escalate the claim. They wouldn't give us any answers. They would constantly just put us on hold and then literally just hang up on us.

That was over the course of an entire day. We spent hours on the phone with AHS. My husband finally got fed up and said, “I don't care. We're canceling our policy. I want nothing to do with them. I don't trust them.” So we basically just canceled our entire policy with them, and we had to go buy a fridge on our own without being covered with AHS or anything because they thought it was ok for us to wait three additional weeks to even have someone look at the fridge, let alone not repair it. They tried to ask us to stay and they said they would give us a free month. I said, “What's a free month? That’s $65. And we have a $2,500 fridge sitting in our kitchen that won't work that you won't repair for us. We're literally out the money, and we had to pay to have our fridge removed."

We called friends and family that we had referred to them, and told them our experience and that we felt they should cancel their policies as well. What has been annoying is we've been with them for 13 years, and we have sung their praises. We have told friends and family, and they have signed up with them. They did a 30 all around. They completely dropped the ball. They did not care about us. If they had even just said, “We're working on this. We'd like to get a second opinion. We really wanna help you.” They filed a second claim on our behalf without even calling us. We thought we would get a new fridge based on the first technician that they sent out. He gave his feedback and AHS chose to get a second opinion, and didn't tell us.

We're happy with American Home Shield because we haven't looked into changing. And we've had them since 2018. I plan on keeping them. Maybe not call them for plumbing stuff. But they've been great with everything else that we've had to work with. When my water heater broke, I had a good experience with the people that came out and installed the new water heater. So, it has been a 50-50.

One time, the faucet to the master bathroom broke off. AHS sent out a technician who informed me that they no longer make that type of handle. So, they would need to take out all of the piping and install a new one. So, I went online, Googled it, found the part on two different websites, ordered it, and fixed it myself.

The next one that was bad was, I heard this crazy, weird squeaking noise in the pipes. AHS sent someone out. Because there was no water pressure either. They tried to tell me that I had a slab leak. And that since it was outside the house, AHS didn't cover it. I also have a warranty with another company for outside the house. They came out, looked at it, and said I didn't have a slab leak. "The squeaking that you're hearing is coming from the tank of your toilet." And they fixed it. When that was fixed, everything was fixed.

I called AHS and told them that I was incredibly unhappy with the service from those guys. I asked if another technician from another company could come out and give a second opinion. I was told, no. Since those guys were already sent out once, AHS would call them and ask them to send out a senior technician to come and look at it. Because the two guys they sent out to start with seemed new. Didn't know what they were doing. And the senior technician, instead of coming out and checking out the issue, called and told me that his guy said it was a slab leak, so that must be what it is, and refused to come out and look at it himself.

They came in and looked around inside the house. And they saw where something wasn't sealed properly in the back of the toilet, and that's what was making the noise. It was crazy. Because when the American Home Shield technician left, they told me there was a leak. And they asked me if I wanted to have the water shut off or just let it keep running. And I was like, "There's a leak. Why would I want you to just leave it running?"

So, while I had to wait for the other company to send someone out, I spent two days without water in my house. So, it wasn't really American Home Shield itself. It was problems with the technicians that they chose to send out. And those are the only two problems I've had. Every other time they've had to send someone out, it has usually been great. I've had problems with my AC and they've sent out people that were amazing. I recently had a problem with my heater. They sent someone out who fixed it right away. It just seems to be the plumbing problems.

My experience with American Home Shield was a little rocky due to I had to reschedule three times. Whatever the issue was whenever the contractor was scheduled to come out, they did not come out for, and when I called to try to remedy that issue, they said that I canceled the request when I never did. So, there was a disconnect there. During Thanksgiving, I had to make other plans to make that happen because my range did not operate. So, it was three months before we remedied that issue.

There was another issue. The contractor had to order the part. It took a month and a half for the part to be delivered, which was kind a little upsetting. At that particular point, I thought about canceling my service. I talked to a customer service rep to cancel my service. In order to satisfy that issue, they told me that they would not charge me for when the technician came out. So, they reimbursed the $100. But the technician came out and fixed the issue. He was here in less than 10 minutes, which I was proud because I was without a range for about three months. Everything been working fine since then.

There was an issue with my drainage in my bathroom. It drained slowly. I made a phone call. The technician came out in the next three days, which he came out and fixed that issue. He cleaned the stopper and it worked well. But over a period of time, it had buildup, which is expected in the bathroom, and just to have it cleaned again. That's routine maintenance.

I watched the technician that came out and wanted him to show me how to do that myself, and I wasn't able to do it like he did. So, I need to call them again just to get them to come out. But the technician was very helpful and showed me, “This is how you do it.” So, that was a very positive experience. Over a period of time, I didn't do it. I'm not a mechanical person, so I wasn't able to do it like he did. I called them here sometime shortly to come out and do the routine maintenance once again. With the change of seasons, I need to call them out again for my furnace and have it cleaned out. I know they do that.

Typically, when I give them a call or file a claim online, they follow up immediately and then it's up to the contractor to respond within a day or so. For the most part, I get contact from the contractor quickly but I have had one or two instances where I've had to nudge the contractor or call AHS and see if they can nudge the contractor. But that's the longest I'll have to wait before I get some kind of contact from them. Once that's done, AHS tends to approve the claim very quickly and there's not a big lag in repair time or anything. But one thing is AHS could be a little more proactive in those couple of instances where someone might not be getting back to the customer. I've called once or twice and mentioned it and they give them another day. But sometimes, if it's a pretty serious problem, it can be a little frustrating. But aside from that, I've had a very positive experience.

My last claim was when I had a leak in my heating system and RI Pipe Guys came in and assessed the damage. He came up with a recommended solution for how to fix the pipes and what kind of parts to use. When they submitted everything to AHS, I got a notification within a day or so that their appraisal of what the damage was and that it was approved. I had to pay a little bit over what the limit was but everything was accounted for. They've since fixed the heating system. I've worked with RI Pipe Guys when they repaired a previous leak that I had, also through AHS and they're great. Any time I have a pipe issue, I see if I can get them involved.

Sometimes American Home Shield has not been holding up to their end of the bargain. We've had issues where we waited three months for repairs to be done and no one contacted us. That was for a pipe leak. And the repairs required the technician to take a piece of the pipe out and replace it with a new piece. We had to end up paying out of pocket because we were told it would be covered and it wasn't. So, we had to pay. And when we called AHS, they told us it was considered modified, where we had a pipe leak before, and the other technician did the same thing. We didn't pay out of pocket. But somehow, we had to pay this time. So, we were a little confused. But we had requested a supervisor to go over it with us. And no one called us.

The technicians are fine. I can't blame them. They only come out to do the work order they were given. They don't represent AHS. They don't have the policies. We had a bad experience with one vendor when we first got it. And whenever we needed to get something done, we made sure it was not them. They weren't professional. But for the most part, the folks that have come out are very professional.

Every time I called with the issue, I would pay my deductible. And American Home Shield would send a company out. The repair guys would tell AHS that it was fair wear and tear and they would repair it. The only thing I haven't tried them for is the HVAC system, and I will probably do that soon. Other than that, AHS seemed an easy company to work with. They don't give a hassle. I don't care much for the deductible when I'm paying a certain amount every month. But it is what it is. It has been great.

The technicians are good. Once in a while, I would get somebody that I would wonder about. But they would do the job correctly. So, I don't judge people by what they appear or do as long as they do the job right. The recent contractor told me they would be here at a certain time. It had to be from 2 o'clock to 6 o'clock. They called me at 6 o'clock and said the guy was running behind. So, they didn't show up at my house until 7 o'clock at night. If I've been sitting here all day, someone would tell me he would be here at a certain time, he should be here. But that was the only issue I had with them. The repair guy was great. He fixed everything that was wrong.

The interaction is not easy anymore. So, every time I request for an appointment, they would always come back with, “This is not covered. That is not covered. This is wear and tear, so we can't cover it.” And we have to argue. There would be a second time they come. And finally, it would get done. But the whole process has become tedious now.

Sears was perfect. They were my first experience, and they were good. The previous one was the problem, which was Astro Appliances. We’ve had multiple things with them, but this is the second time regarding the same issue. They've come back and said, “This is normal wear and tear, so it doesn't get covered.” The last one was the oven. Its inside door broke. AHS said, “It's normal wear and tear. And we won't cover it.” I said, “If the inside broke, I could have sat on it to break it.” We had to argue about that for two days. Finally, they sent Sears. And Sears was, “Yeah. This is because of the thermal heat issue. So, it's not normal wear and tear.” It does happen, and they've seen it. Finally, they covered it.

They seem to be, "Let's see how many times we can come out to try to fix something that should be fixed on the very first visit." And that requires me to be home and requires us to interrupt our lives to accommodate their ineptness. Also, no matter who you call, you always end up with some foreigner. I have one claim in progress, and two that have been closed out in the past 30 days which were favorable. It was easy. I just made a phone call. American Home Shield set it up. The length of time for someone to come out was longer than I wanted for a washer and dryer, because it took a week before someone would come out. And that was a company called Sears. They got the washer and dryer fixed. Everything was fine. The repairman was fine.

It was just this Murphy's was coming out to look at our fridge. They sent somebody out, and he was 30 minutes early. Before I could get back to the house, he had already called me and said that he had tried to push a bunch of buttons and he couldn't get it to cool properly. And he said that I had an over-engineered fridge. It was a Dacor brand. And he said, “We have problems with these because we can't find the schematics and they don't give us any information on them.” It blew me away. He said, “We're not gonna work on it. We'll turn it back over to American Home Shield,” which they did. I have a different company now that has come out, and I'm very pleased with them. They've ordered parts.

I called Murphy's back and I talked to the owner, and I told them how unpleased I was that they sent me an under-qualified technician to tell me I had an overengineered fridge. She said she had problems with that brand. I said, “All you had to do was ask me on the phone what brand it was, and we could have avoided me taking off of work to come home to meet you guys, only that for you to tell me you're not gonna work on it.” That was my experience. It was more so with the service company.

Although I have talked to them, it is a little confusing once AHS set things up because they would start sending these texts. I have called about the washer repair and asked, “Hey, what's the next step?” And I don't know. Therehave been a few times where it has taken them a bit to find my ticket and to be able to discuss that with me. So, I don't know where the confusion in that is as far as them handing it off to the service company. And sometimes, I don't have the number of the service company. So, they probably could do a little better on that end. Overall, I'm still pleased.

My only issue too is the fact that I signed up a year ago this month. And I did so because their limit on some of the appliances were the highest in the industry. Up to $6,000 for major appliances. And since my fridge is $9,000, I thought this is a good company to go with. Oddly enough, we crossed January 1st and they arbitrarily said they would lower that to 4,000 for my plan, with no claims for the year. They just said that they would do away with the $6,000 cap and changing it to 4,000. That was a little disappointing.

So, what I'm doing is trying to compare that because I'm about to buy some appliances for another house that I'm building. And the supplier has offered a warranty through Allstate. It has some type of Allstate plan, ultimately, it goes to SquareTrade. And I think they're the ones backing it. So, it just made sense that I would gonna do that, because for a whole house of appliances, for $1,700, I could get a five year plan for all those appliances. If I go with American Home Shield, it would be $100 a month. So in five years, that would be $6,000. And American Home Shield charges $125 every time you make a claim for someone to come out.

From what I'm reading from the Allstate plan, the details so far don't indicate that there's any type of per occurrence fee that I have to pay. I gotta dig a little deeper, but it makes sense. They would cover up to the cost that I paid for the appliance. So, maybe even with the 125 fee, it still might be better. But without the 125 fee, it definitely is better. So, I've made the decision on those appliances to add on the five-year coverage when I purchase them through Allstate, through SquareTrade, whatever it ends up being. That and it's transferable. I get more bang for my buck that way.

In my case for my personal home, it's still probably the best thing out there for me since I don't have the option to get something else now, but I didn't like the fact that they changed the rules when I signed up for it. If I signed up for it and I renew every year, it seemed like they should honor the coverage that I signed up for. But they didn't see it that way.

American Home Shield tries to do the cheapest way out first, which makes sense. If that doesn't work, I call them back and send back the tech, which is at no cost to the consumer. Usually, if there is a second try, it's usually resolved on that second try. But submitting a claim online is kind of hokey to me because I can't really explain what's going on and what needs to be done. We just had an issue with our furnace and we needed something done so I called American Home Shield, explaining exactly what was needed. I was able to get it done, but if I had put it in through the system, it would have been very generalized.

Another claim we had was when our AC compressor blew its cookies and the tech that came out checked everything over and said we needed a new compressor. We had a compressor put in right away after that and it was no problem. The technicians are very cordial and professional. For the most part, they were up on the technology. If they had an apprentice with them, there was usually someone who was more experienced with them and that's always been good.

Initially, I do my claims online if something goes wrong. With the washing machine, I preferred calling in, but that led to call centers in India that did not resolve the issue ever. I refuse to use their automated service. It doesn't get the job done. I make sure to go through the menus and get to the live person. The technicians have been great for the most part. One company, not so much. Also, if there are any issues, it's a waiting game of back and forth. But once it's resolved, I've had no complaints. Sometimes it takes multiple companies, multiple trips and a lot of workaround. But at the end of the day, if it was broken, it was either fixed or deemed unfixable and replaced.

One time there was an extra fee for the second person to come out because there was some weird closure of the account on my end. It said on my end, but it was the call center in India that didn't understand what I was saying. If I just so happened to get someone who had English as a first language, it would work much better. That was when the washing machine was broken, but they were trying everything possible to not replace it when it ended up costing American Home Shield more money in the end by not replacing it from the get-go. But once they finally decided to essentially give up fighting it within 48 hours I was given the gift card to buy a new washing machine. It was just getting to the decision, which should have been made a month or two prior. The monthly has also increased in price since I started my thing five years ago with AHS. Two years ago, they increased the price, whereas previously, it was $70 for a service visit. Now, it's 100.

I wanted that company specifically, so I had to call them. I had to wait at least a week because of a part. But other than that, everything was okay. They responded right away. They were very nice and convenient. I recommended AHS to my daughter. But the only thing was they said when you recommend someone, you'll get something. But I didn't get anything. I've tried to contact AHS, but they said my daughter didn't put my information. AHS is all worth it because they're reliable. When you need something to be done, they're really into it.

I didn't read the instructions on the fan and apparently, there's a button you gotta push to pair the remote to it. So, it was a good waste of my $100 but that's not J.E.M. Electrical’s fault. American Home Shield started off much cheaper and it's gone up quite a bit to be a member. I've been with them for two and a half years. I've got a house that was built in the 90s and I'm handy but at the same sense, if something were to go out like my air conditioner, it's nice to know that somebody can come look at it and not have to deal with finding a contractor.

When we closed our oven door, the inside glass of the door popped out and the brackets on the bottom had broken. I went online and submitted a claim with AHS, then I paid the $100 deductible. That was the easy part of the process. They assigned me to AT Appliance and for the appointment, they gave a four-hour waiting window in the morning and the afternoon, it was a five-hour wait window. When they came out, they looked at the oven and said they had to order parts. And those parts took weeks to come in.

I submitted another claim for our washer and it was eight days before the techs could show up and they said it was because of our home warranty. When they looked at the washer, they said they'd have to order the part. So, we might be out of a washer for weeks. So, the service is not as efficient as it used to be. It used to be that the appliance company that they assigned would do a video visit before they came then you could describe to them exactly what's wrong. But the company, AT Appliance, told me that because of our warranty, they have to physically come and see the appliance.

If I was shopping on my own for repair, I would have a better quality contractor and these issues that I have to wait now for weeks would be done on the same day they come out. So, I am considering dropping American Home Shield. It's more for somebody in a financial bind that could never put out more than $100 for something. I would also tell my family members that you're better served putting the $66 monthly charge in a savings account for when these repairs may or may not come up.

Two years ago, we ended up having somebody come out when there was something wrong with the washer then we asked the techs to check something. They said they couldn't and that they were only sent for that one item. So, it's very minimal work that they will do because of the contract and if they look at something else, then I'd have to pay another $100. Another thing was, they thought it was a bigger job that I would need on the washer and they said the warranty excludes things. So, if it was the whole washer, I would probably get a credit but AHS was not going to replace my washer. So the warranty provides the bare minimum, but it gets you through. It is an inconvenience but it's nice to only pay $100 when, technically, a job could cost $600.

They just keep charging me every time, so I don't know if that's a thing for them. After having to come and fix something three times, you'd think maybe they need a new one. Also, a lot of times, the techs would say that they couldn't do something because AHS didn't cover it. So, they would like to, but they couldn't. Right now, I have a plumbing claim that's still not finished. The first couple of times the techs came for a leak. Then, some tiles had to be replaced, since we had to take them off. The techs did what they could and now, I have to find somebody to put the tiles back on because the techs couldn't do tile work and AHS don't cover tile work. This has been going on for a few weeks.

I did a claim for my refrigerator and American Home Shield assigned it to a service company. Before the tech even did anything, he looked at the refrigerator and said that it wasn't covered because it is a commercial refrigerator. But my wife told him that it's not a commercial refrigerator. Then he said that he hasn't seen anything like that before. He only works on refrigerators that they sell at Home Depot and Lowe's. I was at work and my wife put me on the phone. I told the tech that they do sell them at Home Depot and Lowe's. They're just not on the floor. You have to order it. He also told me that he doesn't work on those and that our warranty didn't cover it. But I told him that it's covered because it's been repaired before. Then he said that he didn't know how to work on them and left. So American Home Shield assigned a new company, CK Appliances, and they're supposed to come today.

I also had a claim when my refrigerator leaked coolant. If there was a leak, then the repairman would need to find the leak, seal it, and then recharge the system and I'm good to go. My refrigerator has a sealed unit, meaning that it generally is not designed for refills. The other complication was that the manufacturer of my refrigerator was bought out by some European company and then shut down all of their manufacturing of that size refrigerator. If American Home Shield hadn't decided to allow the repairman to try to repair the compressor for Freon, then they would have given me a credit, which would have been one-fifth the cost of the refrigerator.

Overall, my experiences with American Home Shield have been okay. The problem comes in when they deal with the appliances for the kitchen. They take zero consideration on the aesthetics of what a replacement would require if they decide they need to replace it. With my refrigerator, they did not want to replace it with the same make because it was too expensive. They wanted to give me a different make. If they do select one or you negotiate with them to get a specific one, it's based on the specs.

For example, they recommended a replacement for my dishwasher that was a different make. The one that they wanted to give me wasn't even at the same quality level. I told them that it was a noisy dishwasher. It should have the following noise level, which they did accommodate. But they could have very well just given me the same make and model.

American Home Shield doesn’t hire any English-speaking individuals when you need somebody as a consumer to be there for you when you're having a catastrophic appliance or failure at the house. Every single person I talked to was named John and I talked to eight different people. There are no eight people named John who all work at customer service and all have different accents so I called the guy out on it because I was irritated. It took AHS three months to get my dishwasher fixed and I had to fight with them relentlessly. I have a $1,500 KitchenAid dishwasher that didn't even last three years and I had four repairs out of warranty on it in those three years. They knew they couldn't get parts for the dishwasher because the repair guy took photos of it and documented it and uploaded it into their system that the parts were not available for the company.

AHS just dragged its feet for months on approving a replacement because they couldn't get it fixed. So, I didn't have a dishwasher for three months. When they finally told me they were gonna send me a link to pick a dishwasher from, none of them were comparable models. They were all low-end models and had none of the features that I had on my KitchenAid. So I told them, as an insurance company, they do not by law have the directive to tell me what I have to choose. I have the option of utilizing whatever services I want. So, I was telling them to cut me a disbursement for the value of my dishwasher and I am gonna shop around and buy my own. I'm not gonna pick from the three models they gave me because I don't like them.

I bought a new Bosch. AHS only gave me $830 credit and I paid 1,500. Per my contract, they are required to replace it with an equivalent to what I had, which was not what they did so as soon as my contract expires in May, I'm canceling it and I'm not signing with them again. I've only had three claims in the 11 years I've been with them and I have the most expensive insurance package that they offer. Even all of my electronics, computers, monitors and remotes for my TVs, are covered.

The technician who came out was through Sears Home Services and he was pleasant, knowledgeable, very friendly and respectful. He cleaned up and made sure he didn't make a mess. He was a great guy. But the communication on their end sucks because they were not communicating effectively with AHS and there were too many hands in the cookie jar. Even after they were notified that they were replacing the dishwasher, they still kept sending me replacement parts for my old dishwasher in the mail. I even called them and asked why they were sending replacement parts when the dishwasher was not fixable and they couldn’t get the parts that we needed for it. They said those were just additional parts that they figured they were just gonna replace everything at one time. So they don't have bits and pieces going out in the future.

I told them they were the ones who said that the parts were not being manufactured. They said that was right and they couldn't answer my question on why they were sending the parts. They said they didn’t know why I was getting parts in the mail. After my new dishwasher was already installed by another vendor, they called me three weeks later to confirm my appointment for the repair on my dishwasher. I told them I already talked to them about this and there was no dishwasher to repair. They asked where the parts were that I received in the mail and I told them they were in the landfill. I was told I needed to mail those parts back and I said I wasn’t mailing anything back because they couldn’t get their act together and I'm tired of them wasting my time. So they can bill me for the parts and they'll be waiting for a check.

The ice maker in the refrigerator was making the wrong type of ice. You set it on crusty and you'd get a cube. But our issue is that the ice maker was freezing up and you couldn't access it anyway. I requested a service call online and it was relatively easy. The only thing American Home Shield wants you to do is pay the service call and then everything gets put in motion. The contractor depends upon the company they send. You'll get a good company and sometimes, you won't. So, you call back in and let AHS know you weren’t satisfied with the people who came and to know if they could send you someone else. I had to do that one time and they sent me someone else.

AHS do what they say they're going to do and you just deal with it. The only complaint I have is not being able to get through to the people you need to talk to when you have an issue. It all depends upon what it is and whether everybody is understood. It's just that you still have this thing that you have to go through. Their job says that they do have to do this and this and you're the recipient of it, and you're sitting there wanting to talk to somebody else and you can't. The procedure to get to the back office is not always available to you. But AHS is fine and it’d be good.

My most recent service request with AHS didn't go well, but the previous one was good. They weren't able to fix an issue with the dryer, because they said it may have been a tear. I didn't know if it was because of normal use, which would have been covered under the warranty or if a tear could have happened, either way, the tech chose to go the route of it being a tear. Therefore, it wasn't covered. It cost me out of pocket even though I paid $100 for the visit for him to come out there and paid $80 a month to have the service. $180 out of my pocket that month and nothing was fixed.

I disagreed with the assessment of the tech sent out here because there was no way he could have told whether it was a wear and tear that caused the small rip or it was from a clothes hanger or a piece of clothing that ripped it. He was making a judgment based on that, that didn't go my way. It cost me a lot more money. My other claim was for a dishwasher. It was a year ago that the door wasn't latching and they were able to fix that. It was covered under warranty.

They said that the cable was covered, but then the other part around the cable was not. I had to pay for that. Their claim process is simple. The problem is you have the surprises when the technician arrives. Then they have to request authorization for repair and that's where, "Oh, no. This is not covered." That was disappointing, and not according to the terms of their contract. Ultimately, it turned out fine. But I was disappointed that I had to pay over $2,000. The technician was fine. Just that in the past, I've never had to pay an additional fee in addition to the service fee. That was a shock. In fact, I had two estimates. I was confused with the claims process at first. But then when I figured that out, it was okay. I called someone else that had American Home Shield that recommended them and they told me what to do. The tech that came out for the furnace seemed like a nice person. I asked him if he could also change the filter in the humidifier that is connected to the furnace. He told me he would check it. I showed him where the filters were because I supply my own filters.

About six minutes later, he was back upstairs. He told me that everything checked out good and that my furnace was running well. I asked him if he checked my filter and he said, “Yes. Your filters are clean. They don't need changes.” But I thought it was strange. Something told me to go back and check behind him, but I didn't because I didn't feel like I should have to. But about a month later, I went downstairs and I checked the humidifier filter. When I pulled it out, the thing was filled with mold. So, at that point, I was pissed. I didn't appreciate that because I pay $100 every time they come out there. For me, I don't have $100 to just keep giving away, especially if you're not gonna do what you said. So, then I don't know if he really checked my furnace or not because my house has been running cool.

When somebody came out for my microwave, the tech did a good job. He was thorough and he did everything that I expected him to do. My microwave has been working ever since. I had American Home Shield for three-ish years. Unfortunately, I decided not to renew my contract this year because their customer service and process had become much worse over time and their prices every contract renewal would be up by about 10% to 20%. It wasn't worth it anymore. The actual submitting of the service request was always fairly easy. The problem was they had a limited amount of companies they use for service requests. And they were very limited.

When I first got with them, their service team and resolution team didn't seem to be outsourced to a different country that had necessarily a hard time understanding and interpreting everything they said. There were a lot of times in the last year when I would call and had an issue, I would just get someone who spoke broken English, which I don't mind. But when something is serious, just trying to get somebody out here and they would misquote things or send the wrong information or tell me the wrong information, it could be hard.

I had a problem with my stove where we thought it maybe had some kind of small gas leak and had called over the weekend to make a service request. And the only service appliance company they had near us wasn't open until Monday. And when they were open on the weekdays, they were only 8:00 to 4:00. I took off work in the afternoon for the first time for them to come out. The tech that they brought out originally, for whatever reason, didn't have the actual tool to detect gas, which I feel like if you called to say you thought you had a gas leak, that would be the main tool they would need. So, he just tried to do a sniff test. And I was like, “I would want to make sure there wasn't a leak.”

That was a Thursday. They were supposed to come out the following Tuesday. So, I took off work again for that. And the company that they were using, that tech called off that day. So, 30 minutes before they were supposed to be here in that time window, they called and canceled that appointment that day. I called American Home Shield because I was like, “I don't wanna use this company. And they don't have any hours available. I've already taken off work twice for no resolution.” And they told me that I was stuck with that company because the service fee had already gone to them. And I had tried to tell them, “Well, you need to get that money back on your end and just get another company out here.”

They told me the only option was to have that same company come back out. So, I had to end up having them come back out the next week later on to actually find the issue. They determined that it just needed a knob replacement to shut the valve all the way so that it was a pretty quick fix. But it still took about three weeks to get that information.

The other issue I have with it is in general, it doesn't seem like any of their systems communicate to each other. So, I get on the phone with their first representative, and they ask me 10 questions to confirm who I am, which is fine. But the moment they transfer me for the next department, I get asked the same 10 questions. And by the time I've told them muy email, phone number, address, name, contact number, five times, I would be burnt out. There would be times, too, where because I had a bad experience, they would be, “Your next service call is gonna be on us.” And I would use the next service call. I would be billed for it. I would have to call and get a refund for it. That happened at least twice in the last two years I was with them where I would have a free service call.

They would say, “In order to get the free service call, you can't go online and request a visit. You'd have to do it on the phone and mention that you have it.” I would do that. I would speak to a representative again who had some broken English. They would say, “Yes. I see your free service call here.” And I would be, “So, you tell me I'm not gonna get charged, right?” And when the tech came out, I would be charged the $75.99, and have to call them and go through five channels again to get the refund.

Their service is good. When J&J was here, they tried to do everything that could be done. But due to someone at American Home Shield, things have been all messed up. Somebody got the order wrong. I'm a little bit confused with the way they're going by doing things. They're right on. They want to get it. But the person in the middle or the go-between is terrible. From December until now, I've been through zero weather without a furnace, and they were going back and forth with these people until they finally got it right. But overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield. They’ve done what they're supposed to do.

I only had one bad experience with one of the vendors who was signed up with American Home Shield. I put down what the problem was, so I thought that they would be prepared to complete the task. When they got there, they said they had to order parts and that they would be back to complete the task. But they gave me the runaround afterward. They wouldn't answer the phone. They weren't communicating with the representatives at Home Shield. It sucked. There was a lot of back and forth. So, I ended up getting another vendor to come out and complete the task that they originally said they completed but they didn't.

I needed a stem in my shower diverter. It wasn't that serious, but I was thinking it was a cause of some other issues that I was having. The fill valve was the initial issue. That was the prominent issue, but I didn't know going into it. When American Home Shield finally assigned me another vendor, they were in touch with me within 24 hours and set up a good time that they could come out. It was at my discretion when I needed them to come back. So within a week, everything was in there and completed.

The oven would come on and the elements would get orange. But they would come up to about 175 degrees, very low temperature, even though it was set on 350, and they would then turn off, both the baking and the broiling elements. Neither one of those would work. Steven's Appliance came out and they were very polite, clean, and courteous. The first time Stevens came out, they put in a temperature probe. We thought that it was possibly in the control panel, in the board up above and it apparently was not, because what happened when they put the new element in, it worked for a couple of days and then it stopped working again. We put in another claim to American Home Shield and Steven’s came back out, looked at it again, and said that it was damaged. It was a total loss.

American Home Shield sent me a new unit and that process went fine. I was very pleased. One of the gentlemen called from there and he sent me an email with an attachment for all of the units that we could choose from. He wanted me to verify the dimensions and the actual configuration of the oven and all that. We did that just fine and we selected a unit. The way it was set up is the replacement oven comes from American Home Shield and it came by freight delivery. A large truck came and two men brought the unit inside the house and left it. They gave us a bill of lading copy and they were very polite.

Then, American Home Shield called back and they wanted their installers to be more familiar with each particular brand that they sell so they had the Whirlpool people come out. They were gonna install it the day before yesterday so they took the old one that was damaged and ruined and put it in their truck. But we unboxed the new one and got it ready to go in and there was a forklift hole in the back of the oven. It was about a 10-inch long dent and I was really nervous. If these guys install this thing and it doesn't work, or much worse, it catches my house on fire, this is not good.

I called customer service at American Home Shield and they responded immediately. They said to send them some pictures. The installer took pictures and documented the event. We sent all that stuff to American Home Shield and later that afternoon, I got an email from Whirlpool and they said that the new unit was on order. I asked them to expedite it. I have not had an oven for over a month and we we're getting tired of eating at the local restaurants. I'm waiting on them to call me back and schedule a delivery and a reinstallation. I understand that it's a complicated process and it's gonna take a little while. We're disappointed that the unit was damaged and it was a letdown but it wasn't a deal breaker. We're due to renew our policy and we are planning on doing that.

The part was in, but I wasn't available for them to come to my home to complete the process. They worked around my schedule. The tech came to my home. In less than an hour and a half, he was gone. I pay American Home Shield good money every month, and every time I would have something happen, they would come up with some kind of new thing that it was not covered or, I would have to sit there. I had a furnace put in my duplex. They came down and said it would be $3,400 for extras to have the furnace put in. I said, "That's ridiculous." They wanted $900 for a plenum. The four things that they wanted were $3,400. And they tripled the price to put the furnace in. I said, "No. I'll take the buy-out." So, they sent me a check for $550 for the buy-out. And I said, "What the heck is this? I cannot even buy a furnace for $550." They said, "Oh, no, we don't give you the buy-out price. We give you the price that we pay for the furnace" But at that point I was so disgusted.

I've been waiting for a month. My oven has been broken. I need a new computer thing. They came in February 2nd and the tech put a new computer in it and the thing didn't work. So, they ordered a new part. They said it could be in here from the 16th to the 27th, and I'm still without the oven. Also, my attic fan has been broken. So, I thought, "I'm gonna switch plans. I've had it." My lights were flickering in my bathroom. The contractor came in, the guy said, "You need a new motor. And you have a raccoon in your attic." I said, "I do not have a raccoon in my attic." They left.

American Home Shield had me call them and they said, "We're not covering your attic fan." I said, "How can you not cover an attic fan?" They said, "Because it was misused." I said, "How can you misuse an attic fan? It sits in the ceiling and it comes on when it's above 75 degrees and shuts off." "The people told us that they have some special tool, that it has not been used and it's been broke for five years and it's corroded." I said, "You seriously believe this, really? That they have a special tool." I said, "You know, you people are dumber than I actually thought you are." Then they said, "We're not gonna cover your other lights because you have a raccoon in your attic." I said, "I do not have a raccoon in my attic."

The next day, I called the company and said, "What's going on here?" They said, "We never said that you had a raccoon in your attic. That it could be from a raccoon because there was wood chips in the electrical box." I said, "You didn't even go up in the attic to look at my wiring." And I said, "What about my attic fan?" And they said, "We told them that you needed one because we told them that it was corroded, because it's been broke." They didn't wanna do the work. I've had them for 13 years, and I got fed up with it and said, "I'm done."

I have my house in Florida and I have a duplex that I rent. And like my husband, his house, he just had to have a new furnace put in and he had American Home Shield. The guy came out and I told my husband, "This guy is an idiot." He came into my duplex and he fixed my air conditioning and said, "There was a power surge." I said, "There was no power surge." He said, "Oh, my God, there's a bee." He got up and left because he was highly allergic to bees and never came back.

They sent another company out, and he said, "There was no power surge. The wires going out to the house were all fried, that's why the furnace wasn't working." So, the guy came to my husband's house and checked the furnace, and the first thing he said, "You had a power surge." I said, "There was no power surge. Can't you check it?" He said, "We can't turn this on, which is power surge, I guess." So, I called them back and said I wanted a second opinion. Everything is $100. You have to pay $100 if they don't agree with your opinion.

Guy came out, looked at it and said, "They're all cracked in there. This is a bad. It needs to be totally replaced." They charged my husband with like a bit over $2,000 for the extras. That's not bad considering, but they still took advantage. Because that's how those places make their money. I said, "You know what? I don't mind paying for something but don't take advantage of me" That's ridiculous.

A couple of years ago, I had my air conditioner went, and the contractor came out and charged me thousands of dollars to put the new air conditioning in. The tech looked at me and said, "You need a pad for the air conditioner to sit on." I said, "What's wrong with this one" He said, "You have to have a new one." I said, "No, I don't. There's nothing wrong with this pad." My husband sells electrical supplies. And they said I needed something else. My husband said, "You don't need that replaced." So, at that time, I took a buy-out, and they gave me a bit of money. They must have changed their practices from years ago. But I still had to pay extra money to have the air conditioning upgraded.

Another thing is these people that we talk to don't speak English. We couldn't understand a word they say. Like when I called them about my attic fan, I said, "I need a new attic fan. The motor is bad." "You mean a ceiling fan?" I said, "No, it's not a ceiling fan, it's an attic fan." They said, "I don't understand." After the ceiling fan, I got pissed off I canceled everything. I just did my bank statement and they charged me for the extra month. Two of the houses they charged me for. So, I would have to call them back and ask what was going on.

Our experience has been an awful ride. We just had to use American Home Shield to replace our water heater. It was a Sunday when I put in the work order request, so I didn't expect to hear anything until the next day. I called the company first thing in the morning to try and get them to come out, because I took the day off of work because we didn't have any hot water. I have three elderly people living in the home and two young children. And I'm the one who works. And the company told me, “Oh, you can't call us. We have to call you.” And so then I was like, “Okay. Well, I'll wait for your call.” They didn't call me until the afternoon and they told me that they couldn't come out until Wednesday.

I tried to explain the situation to them. I called American Home Shield back to see if we could change the vendor so that we could get somebody out because I had already taken a day off of work to deal with this. And they said, “Oh, no. We have to let them have the first opportunity to do it, and we can't change it until at least tomorrow.”

I explained the situation to them. I don't care where they base their employees out of. But my problem is when there was a language barrier and they didn't understand what I was saying and I didn't understand what they were saying, it was already a contentious point because I was already frustrated because I didn't have hot water. I'm dealing with all of these different things. I take off of work to deal with it. And when the person on the other line, there's that language barrier, it's impossible to have a conversation with them.

I asked for a supervisor in hopes that I could get somebody that I could understand a bit better, because I spent 45 minutes on the phone with the lady and I still didn't understand what was going on. She went round and round telling me that the supervisor would't tell me anything different than what I've already heard that she already told me. And I told her that there seemed to be some sort of language barrier between us because I didn't understand what was going on. She said, “I can just have a supervisor give you a call back.” I asked, “When is that gonna happen?” She said, “I don't know. It could be up to 24 hours.”

I just hung up and called back, got a different person, and I couldn't understand that person either. It's a frustrating thing. And the vendors that they work with seem to be small mom and pop shop type businesses. The company that came out told me, “We don't take debit. We only take cash or check or Zelle.” I said, “I don't even know who you guys are. I'm not gonna Zelle you all of this money to come out and do the work.”

But that was after I had to go through the whole process of the guy came out and looked at it. I already told him that needed a new water heater because the issue that was going on, and he came out and looked at it, and said, “Oh, you're gonna need a new water heater.” I said, “I know that. I told you that before you guys came out.” And he said, “Okay. Well, I'll go ahead and put in the work order and then you might hear something back in the next 48 hours.”

There went another day that I had to take off of work in hopes that I heard something from them. But I didn't hear anything until the afternoon of the next day. They said, “Oh, it's approved for us to come out and do the work, but there's a large portion of it that's not covered.” I said, “What's not covered?” They said, “We have to put this new pipe on and we have to put this new filter on, and it needs a work permit to do the work.” I said, “If you know that a work permit is part of the process of changing a water heater, that's fine. But that should be something that's covered under the insurance. You know that it's gonna need the permit, so that should be a cost that is absorbed by the insurance. There should be no reason I should have to pay for the permit for the water heater that you're covering. It should just all be included, I feel, anyway.”

He said, “Now that it's approved, you just have to wait for a call from the company that's gonna do the work.“ I waited a day and didn't hear anything. The next day, now it's Wednesday, and I've taken another day off of work in hopes that somebody would come and fix my water heater. It was the afternoon of Wednesday and I gave them a call, “Hey, what's going on? Nobody's called me.” “We're waiting for parts.” I said, “Nobody's called me to schedule anything or anything like that.” And they said, “We can't have the part.” Everything works fine now. But it took until the following month to come out and do the work. I was out of work for three days. It was a frustrating process.

It just seems that when you have a complication for some reason and if they have a contractor they're working with, even if it's not working out for you, they would keep sending the same one back instead of changing the company to get the job done. The air conditioner and heater wasn't working so I called them and they assigned a company to me. Their tech came out and he put in a piece and that went well, but then it slacked out again and was giving me different codes.

It took me a long time to get in touch with the contractor. AHS kept trying to get in touch with them with the business number that they had given them and they couldn't get through. That went on for quite a long time and I got so very frustrated. I asked if they could send somebody else out but they wouldn't change the person. After about a month, they assigned another company and that company has come out three times now. They finally decided that it was the motherboard and they ordered that part. It's been a couple of weeks now because it's hard to get the part. It's still going on but the company is working with me and they get in touch with me a lot. At least, I know what's going on.

When we bought the house, we didn't know anybody here for any kind of services and American Home Shield was recommended to us because they could provide help. Since having them, I feel safe that they're sending out someone who's reputable, especially if they have to come into the house. Most recently, the hot water heater broke and I called their office. They assigned me to Iplumb and they said they would be the ones that would take care of it.

Iplumb sent out a representative and they were hoping it would just be this thing called an element. They replaced that part, but it didn't work. I was disappointed that they couldn't fix it the first time, because I didn't know anything about an element. But they had to try that first and I understand that. They came back and they decided that it had to be replaced. They went back to AHS and got authority to replace it. We got approved to have a new water heater, which they delivered and installed. It was just under $700 to pay for the water heater, which they put on my Visa card.

But it was hard to reach Iplumb all the time because it always went to the voice mail. They finally called back just to let me know they were coming so it worked out and they came when they said they would. The unit is okay, but it's not set quite as high as we wanted it. We might get a plumber and adjust it. The other water heater was a 70 or 80 gallon and now that's considered a business type thing. Now we're down to a 50 gallon, which is fine.

Our water heater went out. I called AHS and the plumbing company came out. They submitted the information to American Home Shield and they got the approval for them to come out and fix the water heater. The techs were great. They explained the issues and they walked me through everything. They were very transparent in the information that they were going to be submitting for the claim documentation, and then very quick follow-up as far as when they would be able to provide the service. It was a really good experience. I have hot water and I can take nice showers now. I like the ease of mind if something like this were to occur. Without having this protection from AHS, I would have been out a lot more money. They also have been very patient with any questions that I have. They've provided information on the contract that I have and the process in which they get and receive claims. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

We had a refrigerator claim with AHS. The techs came out and they needed parts. They ordered parts and they made me wait 21 days to see if a part would come in that we hadn't gotten from the time the service guys came out. We were without a fridge for six weeks. They finally had to buy it out because they couldn't get a part. We upgraded, so we put some of our own money towards it as well. I also used AHS on my dishwasher that wasn't heating. The techs who came out were great. They fixed it in 30 minutes. However, the price of AHS goes up every year. When we started out, it was 50-something dollars a month. Now, it's almost 110. I'm getting ready to start shopping around.

They ordered a part for the washing machine, but then they didn't order it. So when the technician came, we were missing a part. It took another week for the part. The appointment was set for Friday but they moved it without calling me and told me that the Friday appointment was a ruse kind of thing. I've got two guys walking into the garage, and going in the basement to fix the washing machine. Because I'm pissed off with American Home Shield and whoever they keep hiring. Most of these companies they got, if you look on Google, only have two or three stars.

I've been with AHS for a couple of years and it's a cheaper route of going. But it makes me laugh because they've agreed to do $900 worth of work for a washing machine, when I could have bought one, exactly the same one for cheaper. I've also had a new heating and it took three or four weeks for us to get that done. But they eventually get the work done and it only cost me 100 bucks. Although I wish their call centers are in the US because it's pissing me off. Every time I call, I go to India or somewhere all they say is, "Yes. I'm very sorry. I understand your concern." I hate it. I'd rather speak to somebody that's in the country.

My experience with AHS has been very good for the most part. I've used them several times and every time, except one, was good. I had a garbage disposal that wasn't working. The technician came in and he said he fixed the disposal. But to make the disposal run, he broke the seal. AHS would not take responsibility for it and the plumbing company would not take responsibility for it as well. So I paid $100 for them to come out and, bottom line, at the end of the ordeal, I had to buy a garbage disposal myself and have it put in on my own. But the other times have been great.

My Appliance Repair came out for the refrigerator recently and they were wonderful. The ice maker wasn't working and the dishwasher too. The dishwasher was one of those stupid things where we had hit a lock button we didn't know existed. We did a sequence of buttons that locked the door and that was taken care of in 30 seconds. Then, the ice maker was replaced. They had to order the part, come back and install it and they did that in a timely fashion. The technician's name was Troy and he was very good. Everything's working okay now. I'm glad that I have AHS. I've had my washer and dryer replaced. I've had my HVAC looked at twice, then the garbage disposal, as I said. For the refrigerator, they came out and replaced the compressor a year or so ago, and the ice maker this time.

American Home Shield is a good system to run on. It's a good way to find repair people in an area when I know that that can be a deeply confusing matter for a lot. Whether who you can trust or you can't trust, and if you have to go through a third party company, it makes it a little bit easier. We'll be keeping them. Their costs are a little bit high for what they offer but I can understand there are a lot of people are making tons of claims.

I had a contractor come out when I had a toilet issue. It was flooding a little bit and not flushing as well. They removed the clog. But it seems that there has been water damage from the overflowing toilet within the pipes. I still have a leak that's ongoing. We have to figure out whether or not they can come in and punch a hole in the wall to continue to repair inside pipes inside of the wall once the mold system has been dealt with by another company that had to get called out.

American Home Shield is okay. It was my first time using them just recently and it was a learning experience. When I filed for the service request, it was a good experience. The customer service rep helped me, and he walked me through it and explained the next step. I just called the number and told them that I want to make a service report and this is my first time after 18 months of being with them. He did it for me. He sent me a text message and told me the company name that would be reaching out to me to make an appointment. So, that part went smoothly. I just didn't know I have to pay a monthly fee to have the insurance and then I have to pay $125 for someone to come and give me an estimate, and then they got to take the estimate back, and then they got to send it to Home Shield. Home Shield has to approve the estimate.

I had a leaky faucet in my sink. It took a week and a half for everything to get approved. AHS only approves so much. It's like, "Well, we approve so much. And this much we don't approve. So we will cover this much, but you have to come out of your pocket, out of pocket, with this much." It's like having a deductible. If they don't approve the work, then you have to pay for that out of pocket. That's different for me. I went through DT Energy and, if something goes wrong, someone will come out and fix it and that's it. You pay your monthly fee and that's your monthly fee. There's no co-pay.

Half of the leaky faucet job was approved. They said there was something in the plumbing in the water line that isn't covered under warranty. So, I had to pay $250 out of pocket, and then that was when they made the appointment to come and fix the ring and whatever else that they did cover. Kyle, the tech, was nice and he did his job and he left. My son wanted to take a shower and water started squirting out. I called Kyle right away, and he came right back and he was like, "Okay, I got to run to the hardware. That ring isn't working." He got a ring all on the same day, came back, fixed it, and I haven't had any problems since then.

I would recommend AHS, but I would tell others the loophole and leave it up to them if they wanna move forward with becoming a customer of AHS. What if it would have been an incident where I just didn't have $250 at that moment? Here I am paying $50 a month just in case something happened, and then when something happened, I still got to pay even for them to come out and look at it. I paid 250 for it to get fixed and did 125 for them to come out. So, that's a total of 375, and the 125 had to be paid before the technician even came and the 250 had to be paid before the technician even came to fix the problem. So, that's 375 plus what I'm paying each month. So, maybe I should consider looking around.

American Home Shield is good to have in a way, but it has a disadvantage. The claim process is long. I've been putting this claim in ever since the fifth and I'm still not with a washing machine yet. Still, I don't have to come out of my pocket to buy another whole washing machine myself. When the Sears guy came out and checked it, he said about three pieces were broken on it, and they didn't carry the parts anymore. Then someone texted me and said they were coming to the house to see if they could fix it, but I had a doctor's appointment that day. So, I didn't get them. When I called back, they sent me a link to go on and pick out a washing machine that I wanted that was under warranty. So, that's what I'm waiting for now. The options weren't that great because they didn't have one like I had, and it's not gonna match my dryer. I got to get a top-loader this time.

Yesterday, they told me that if I went over what was in the package we were selecting from, I would have to come out of my pocket with the rest of the money. There were 10 options. Most of their front-load ones were different colors and it wasn't the same brand as Samsung. I ended up picking Amana. I've been with AHS for a few years now. I had to get the coverage because I don't have the type of money to come out of my pocket to pay for a brand-new one every time it breaks down.

Filing a service request to American Home Shield is simple and easy. You can do it online. Their website is a good system. The biggest issue that I have had is when we wanted to reach out directly with a phone call, it took a while to find a customer service phone number. It seemed like they were strongly encouraging online interaction. If you need to talk with somebody, it is difficult to figure out how to do that.

We had a water heater crack and go out. We were able to submit a ticket quickly. The job was assigned to a contractor quickly. The contractor was able to come out quickly, but then American Home Shield was not quick about approving the work. It was a great inconvenience to wait that long. It took one week. We had to rely on friends to take showers and baths. As I recall, we had to follow up with AHS, and there was no explanation or apology about the length of time to approve it. Once it was approved, Moreno Plumbing came out in a day or two. The quality of work was good.

This is not the first time that we've been disappointed with American Home Shield's speed of service and also with what they offered. Last fall, we had our refrigerator go out. In that case, the contractor did take a long time to come out. Apparently, they were overworked, because even when they did make it out, they had to come in the evenings. Once we did get the issue diagnosed, instead of getting the refrigerator replaced, they decided that they wanted to just repair it. Then once they figured out that the parts were no longer available, they wanted to refurbish our refrigerator. They estimated that it would take three weeks. At this point, we had already been without a refrigerator for a couple of weeks.

We had to arrange for backups on our own. We were already a couple of weeks into it, and they wanted to take three more weeks, which, technically, according to their contract, they could but going without a refrigerator for over a month was not an acceptable option in our view. They did not offer any sort of backup or temporary replacements. So, because that was such an unacceptable time frame, we elected for a cashout payment and that was somewhat disappointing as to how much because they only offered to pay for the amount that it would have cost to fix the fridge, and not the amount to replace it. We even called and attempted to ask for more money and were rebuffed.

KN Repair was the contractor that was given. Very bad experience because twice we called the same people. The technician who came told us something else and would go back and give a different review to AHS. They didn't take care of it. I had to reach back to AHS instead of KN Repair. AHS said that they had to go by the words of the technician and there was nothing they could do.

American Home Shield sent Bast Heating, and they were fine. They came out and fixed the problem and it's been fine ever since. I made my claim on the internet, and their website works well. I called them twice because I fixed it once myself, and then I canceled. The next time, I put it in at 6:30 and they called me when they opened at 8:30. I would recommend AHS. So far, so good. I've only had minor issues that were fixed. It was worth it so far. I have used it a couple of times and the service call price is less than a general service call for most repair places. The only complaint I have would be the weekend situation. They don't offer weekend emergency-type services. The services are only from Mondays through Fridays.

American Home Shield was cheaper than Old Republic, which is what I had before. I always shop around every year when things come up in regular homeowners insurance. If it was substantial, I would switch. If they were comparable, I would stay where I'm at, because if I'm still with the company after a year, I'm happy with them. I was happy with Old Republic, but their rates were $40 a month more than what AHS was. Now I see why. The claims process and the limiting of vendors is frustrating.

I have a sump pump that removes groundwater that was not working. I called American Home Shield to explain my problem, and they took my payment and sent Lake Water Plumbing out. When they first showed up, the tech went through a walk in the back and said that he had originally planned to refer it to a sewer company because of the sump pump, even though it's not a grinding pump. But said he would look at it anyway. He walked back in the backyard and I showed him where it was, and even though it is buried, there's an electrical line that is above ground that goes directly below ground. And there's a drain box that goes to the sump pump. So, I showed him where it was, and his first statement was, “I don't dig.”

I said, “I had my home warranty company and you're the people they sent, so I don't know what to tell you.” And he said, “I don't think they cover sump pumps.” I said, ”No, my contract specifically says sump pumps as long as it is to remove groundwater.” He said, “I don't think they'll cover it, so I'm gonna call them.” He called AHS, and the first thing he told them was, “It's a sump pump. It’s underground. We don't even know where this thing is.” I pointed to the ground where the electrical cord goes from the box into the ground, and he said, “We have a general idea but we don't know where it's at. We'd have to locate it.” Because he would charge up to $450 to dig, they denied my claim and said that they don't cover that even though they had told me when I called that they do cover some pumps to remove groundwater.

He said, “They're not gonna cover it.” I said, “Okay, we're done. You can leave and I'll call the warranty company back.” Lake Water Plumbing sent me a quote saying that if I wanted them to do it, they would come out and dig it up for me, and it would be up to 450 bucks. So, I told them, “Disregard.” I went out there, and within five minutes, I had the entire thing located, dug up, and removed the sump pump myself.

I called AHS and told them that since I was told that it was covered, to explain the entire process to him of what I needed fixed, and they declined that I wanted the $125 service call fee back. So, they refunded that to me, or at least I need to check and see if they did, and gave me half off my next service call. I told them, “Cancel my contract now and reimburse me for anything I've already paid for the month.” They transferred me to cancellations, and that lady immediately said, “No, we'll reimburse you the 125 and we'll give you 50% off the next service call.” The problem would be if I had another plumbing issue and that was the only company they had on AHS. I would have to cancel my warranty and hire somebody myself because I would not have them back.

The last home warranty company we had, you could hire your own plumber to come out and then submit it for reimbursement. But they don't do that in AHS. They said that the only way you could do that is if their person was not available. Mentioned to them that if I kept their warranty, that I wouldn't want that guy and probably not the company now that I've given him a bad review, to come back out to my house. They didn't say that I would be able to do anything other than have that person.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield two weeks ago for a dishwasher repair. I simply went through the automated system. It was easy. I was given the contractor's name, the address, and the time I expected them to arrive. The gentleman they sent was on time, and he was professional and well-informed. He was not able to rectify the issue. The issue was a Maytag dishwasher that was 45 years old. We had many laughs about it because he opened it, expecting it to be full of rust and there was not even one chip piece of enamel or any of the rubber gone. We laughed and he talked about how he couldn't believe that something that age was that well-made. It was just the pump had completely failed. So, they're replacing it.

The replacement process is excellent. I've been with American Home Shield for more than 25 years. They have replaced a stove for me and the dishwasher. Everything in my house is over 40 years old. So, when it goes, it just finally goes. AHS gives you a nice selection, they send you good people, and I have no complaints. I like that I can get somebody there very quickly, that I do not have to log through a number of people or decide whether they're reputable or not, that they send me somebody right away, and they always fix the problem.

I had a good experience with Home Shield. The only problem I had with them was it seemed like between them and the contractors were miscommunications on the job at hand and it really goes into detail on why. My microwave died and they sent a technician out. He diagnosed it as bad. They replaced it but the technicians that brought it didn't install the new one because they couldn't get the old one out, which if they just tried a little elbow grease, it would have popped right out. I actually removed it myself, but I couldn't install the new one. When I called them up, Home Shield was great about it. They said they would send somebody out. But somehow there was a miscommunication. The tech thought he was coming out to fix the old one. He told me, "I don't install. I just fix." So I had to call back a third time.

This time, Home Shield sent another technician out. He did install it and they reimbursed me my $100 service fee. So my experience with American Home Shield was very good. But there was a breakdown in communication of what needed to be done. When the third guy came, I told him the story and he nearly died laughing. He installed it and he did a beautiful job too. So my experience went well. It just took a little while.

Also, American Home Shield charged me some money and they won't refund it, but they claim they refunded it. My credit card company said they never got it and I've been disputing that with American Home Shield since June. Their billing department is very frustrating. I'm not happy with it at all. It would be better if they had people in America as their customer service agents who spoke English and who understood. But besides billing, my claims experiences have been great. For appliances, they have the highest coverage amount and I own high-end appliances which wouldn't necessarily be covered under other warranties that I compared them to.

CasMech was great, but the other contractor before them wasn't. They sent out a text when they would be there, and then my son went to the store and they said they had to reschedule because they were there and I wasn't there. They told me I had to pay them, too, because no one was there. So, she told me it was $75 before I could reschedule them to come back out. I tried to pay her and then I told her I had an American Express card and she said they didn't accept the American Express card. So, I couldn't schedule for them to come back until I paid. I said, "I'm trying to pay you. I need my heat." Then she said, "Well, like I said, we don't take American Express."

When I called American Home Shield, the rep told me that I didn't have to pay them and that he would call them to schedule them to meet with me the following day. So, I stayed home waiting for them but they never showed up. So, I called her and she said, "Well, you never paid, so we don't have you on the schedule." That was messed up. Then that company left an invoice at my door saying I owed them $80.

When I called back American Home Shield and said that the lady said she didn't even have me on the schedule being that I didn't pay, and I thought that he amended that out. So, the rep called them and she said that I would have to pay the. I told her that I didn't want them back in my house. One lady said that they were gonna leave an invoice saying 80. So, I don't feel comfortable with them being at my house. The rep assigned CasMech to come out and they got it done.

Some people that American Home Shield has contracted with have been horrible and some people have been okay. The biggest challenge is I wonder if it's worth it because it would take two weeks for them at some point. They get around the timeframe by having somebody call and do something over the phone with me and it would be two weeks before they came out, and they have to order parts and it would be another two weeks. So, if your dishwasher or washer broke, it would be a month before it would be fixed. It would be cheaper to pay for the contractor directly. Sometimes it's not. It depends on what the issue is.

I had a pipe leaking from the ceiling into the basement. The plumber that came out did not fix it. He said he couldn't handle the issue. He didn't have the equipment and it was a bigger problem that he could not deal with it. His company could not deal with it because they didn't have the right equipment. So, I was not pleased. The guy wasn't very experienced. He called American Home Shield and told them what he thought was going on. Then we found out it was on the outside of our house where the problem was at. So American Home Shield was not responsible for that and I had to call someone on my own.

I also called American Home Shield for my gas stove. It was not lighting and I was leery of messing with it because it was gas. The tech came out and he was able to resolve it. But he didn't even have the name of his company on his van. I went out there and the van is a complete mess. So I'm not pleased so far with the people that they have sent out. I would rather be able to call my own professionals and have them come to my house and be reimbursed by American Home Shield. But they won't let me do that. So I'm pretty sure it won't be long and I'll be cancelling.

Another gripe that I have with American Home Shield is that before they do anything, they want their $100 copay. They won't even schedule anybody or discuss anything until they have the payment of $100. They won't even schedule a worker to come unless they have your money. It is not a problem with us because they have my credit card information. Whenever they have your credit card on file, they will say, "Well, we have to process that." But processing a credit card should take five minutes and not two days. I'm just not very pleased.

American Home Shield started this thing where you had to put everything in the same category. Once upon a time, it was $75 to put in the claim and you can put as many things on it as you wanted. But now, it all has to be in the same category. I had a few faucets that were going down slowly. I also had a faucet in my kitchen that was leaking. The drain was loose and American Home Shield wanted me to pay $240 because they said it wasn't covered. But what's the point of having insurance? I've been with them for four years now. Every year, it appears that the cost of it goes up, but they cover less. They adjust the contract, but don't send you a new contract.

I set up the claim online when I had a leak in my sink. Initially, I had M&M Plumbing but they never called. So I had a week with my kitchen faucet leaking and it ended up damaging the wood of my sink underneath because no one called me. I called M&M and they told me, "Oh, yeah. We don’t have anybody for the next full week and a half, for 10 days." I called American Home Shield and told them to give me H&K since they helped me out the last time. So H&K came out a week later after that. But American Home Shield said it was 240 for that specific item. They said they did not cover the sink where it was going down too slow.

I called American Home Shield and I told them that they replaced the sink in my tub. But they said, "Oh, that was last year. This year, it’s not covered." When they told me it was gonna be 240, I right away called my brother who has a plumber, and he came and repaired it for $80. I will not be renewing American Home Shield this year.

Submitting the claim was fast, quick, and easy. But they said they wouldn't fix the plumbing issue because it was done wrong. But to me, that was the whole purpose of having a home warranty. I wouldn't mind paying the difference to upgrade. I still have a leak in one of my bathrooms and it leaks downstairs. They said that it should have been done right from the beginning. They said that the plumbing is outdated. So they wouldn't cover it. Once this is up, I will be looking for another company.

I also had a plumbing claim when there were trees in the line. They took too long. So I paid an outside contractor for that. But when we go back and look at my case, it is still open and I did the claim in November. I've gotten it fixed now and I spent $5,000 on something that was covered. But American Home Shield never sent anyone out to finish the job. The contractor that they sent out before said they had to get a prior authorization. Also, after I paid the home warranty, I had to still pay the contractor another $125 because they said they had to run their own camera. All of this stuff should have been covered under my home warranty and they told me it was covered. But they wouldn't pay for it.

When I had electrical issues, American Home Shield didn't fix it. I had to pay out of pocket for that. Then they said it was partially approved. But what is partially approved? They told me I had to pay $1,100 to fix it. I had to go pay someone else to come and do it. It only cost me around $300. When I had a refrigerator go out, the contractor came and fixed it. Then something was going on with the dishwasher and they were also able to fix that. The only thing they didn't fix was my microwave because they said by the time they buy a part, and then come back and fix it, it's cheaper to just replace the microwave. So they replaced that. But I wouldn't recommend the plumbing and electrical companies that they use. The appliance part of it is good but I had problems with the electrician, which to me was a big deal. I'm paying American Home Shield every month, so I shouldn't have a problem with getting my stuff fixed.

I had the absolute worst experience in the world with American Home Shield. Once I settle my issue, I'll cancel my account because I think it's a fraud. The way American Home Shield works is you have to use their certified professionals. I get it. They want some quality control. They know the people. They supposedly trust them. So, I went through American Home Shield. They said, “Hey, you gotta schedule an appointment with our professional plumbers.” We scheduled an appointment. I made a claim but Crown Home Services never came out. This whole thing started on January 26th. My hot water heater was going out. I wasn't getting hot water in the middle of January in Denver, Colorado.

Meanwhile, not having hot water in January in Denver, Colorado is a bit of an emergency. They said, “Hey, we're gonna come out.” They were supposed to be here on February 1st to diagnose the problem between 3:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon, and American Home Shield instantly charged us $125 for that service call. Not having hot water from the 26th to February 1st, I still was like, “Okay.” But then they just came out and diagnosed it and then they had to file a claim with American Home Shield. Then they have to come back out and fix it. Supposedly, on the AHS website, it says, “Here's the cost,” to sell you on the warranty. It even says, “We will save you the cost of replacing a hot water heater, which is at least $1,500. We save you this. We save you that.”

In small print on the contract of the warranty, it does say, “Hey, there may be some additional cost to the installation or there might be something additional that isn't covered that you might have to pay directly to our professionals.” “Oh, okay. Well, hey, while we're here, there's a little something over here that needs to be fixed or something like that. Here's your extra $100.” So, we're waiting for them to come out to just diagnose the problem. The morning of February 1st, I got a text saying, “Hey, we're running late today, so we're gonna be late.” That was strange to say that they were running late. It was not even 9 in the morning, and they texted me. Then all of a sudden, right before 12 o'clock, I got another text. It said, “You know what? We think that it's probably older than 10 years. We're just going to put in a claim that you just need a new hot water heater. So, just send us a bunch of photos so we can submit it to American Home Shield.”

That bothered me because I think that that's being dishonest. They're professionals. They could have come out and said, “Hey, look. We looked at everything,” and said, “Okay. Yeah. It's older than 10 years.” I would have believed them. I'm not a plumber. So, I called American Home Shield, and it went on deaf ears. They were like, “Yeah.” I was like, “Hey, just wanna give you guys a heads-up, because you guys are expecting the professionals that you contract with to go out and do an honest diagnosis of the problem, put their eyes on it, and go through the thing, and then give you guys the true assessment.” I was like, “Let's not do anything because it's not 3 o'clock yet. It's not 5 o'clock yet. So, let's just see what happens.” They were like, “Yeah. Okay.” It was almost as if I was just bothering the person on the operating side of things.

So, it was 9 o'clock at night, and nobody showed up. So, I called and I said, “Hey, guys, nobody ever came out. Just wanted to give you a heads-up that that's not good.” I wasn't even asking at that point for the $125 back. I said, “Hey, by the way, just wanted to mark down that if you guys get a assessment or a bid, nobody ever came out.” The weekend happened. It was late Friday afternoon, and I was visiting some friends, but I got an email that said, “Yeah. You need a new hot water heater.” I went on to My Dashboard for American Home Shield, and it said that for parts of the service that aren't covered, I owed the plumbers $1,500 for additional work. Their website says that the whole hot water heater could be at least $1,500 to get it replaced.

I instantly called and I was like, “Wait a second. What's going on?” Then instantly, it changed to I still owe the outside plumber out of pocket $750. So, that Monday morning, I called up. I was like, “Hey, wait a second. This isn't right. $750 out of pocket is absolutely ridiculous.” I asked the plumbers directly multiple times by text and phone, “Will you please send me a full itemized bid of the work so I can see what American Home Shield is covering and what I'm covering?” I also was on the phone with American Home Shield. I was on the phone with AHS three times on February 5th. I was like, “Hey, look, can you please send me an itemized bid of the scope of work on what you guys cover and what I cover so I know?” They were like, “Yeah. We'll go ahead and put in that request.”

Nothing happens on the 13th. On the 14th, I was still getting these crazy texts from the plumber saying, “Well, we're just gonna go ahead and get it fixed. You owe us $750.” When I was on the phone with them on Wednesday, I said, “What are my options here?” They were like, “Well, you can also do a cashout in lieu of doing the plumber.” I was like, “Well, I can't make that decision until I actually know.” I've been on the phone with them over 13 times, and I finally gave up. I was like, “I need to just see what my cashout offer is and what the itemized bid is of the scope of work.” I'm in commercial real estate. I work with contractors all the time. I work with plumbers all the time. I was just gonna have somebody who I know and trust take a look at it and tell me what they think I should do.

I'm thinking about contacting the Better Business Bureau because it turns out it's a scam. Nothing ever happened. That Wednesday, I called back and I was like, “Where are these bids? And where is my cashout offer?” I was on the phone with somebody nice. She just said, “Hey, look we don't have that cashout offer.” I was like, “Well, how do you come up with that cashout offer?” “Well, we have to wait for a bid from our professional. And then that's how we come up with it.” I said, “Wait a second. That doesn't seem right." She was like, “Well, yeah. It's a part of it." While I was on the phone with her, she said, “Okay. Your cashout offer is $750.” For me to hire another plumber to completely replace the hot water heater, they offered $750. It ended up costing me 1,800.

I was like, “This isn't enough. Who do I talk to? Who do I talk to?” I also was like, “Where's this other bid? Where's the breakdown of the scope of work so I can see this?” Then she said, “I need to send you to the escalation department.” So, they don't call it customer service. I find it ironic. They call it the escalation department, which was like, “Oh, somebody doesn't like what we're doing here.” I got sent to the escalation department. That person was blatantly rude and mean. They admitted, “It is our policy not to send our customers the bid. So, no, we are not sending you an itemized bid.” I was like, “So, how do I know you guys are telling me the truth? Hey, this $750, your website clearly says it doesn't cover it, clearly doesn't cover the cost. It's at least 1,500.” I've already talked to a couple of other plumbers.

Meanwhile, on that same Wednesday, I got a bid from the plumbing company that says $750 at the top. It said, “Replacement of hot water line, cold water line, replacement of gas line.” It said, “Either or, we'll do this or that.” Meanwhile, the plumber I sent it to said it was less than $100 worth of parts that should also be included as the replacement, and that wasn't an itemized bid. They just put $750. I asked to talk to a supervisor. I was like, “So, you're the highest department, the escalation department.” So, the supervisor is the highest of the highest. Then they have the cashout-in-lieu-of department. I also found out that the $750 was a lie and that it was a real bid. It's just an automatic number. If somebody says, “Cashout in lieu of,” they buy all these parts at wholesale, and that's how much they get the hot water heater for.

I waited another week and a half and three other calls to the escalation department, and most people were all rude. They kept saying, “Well, that's not our decision. It's this other department, the cashout-in-lieu-of decision.” Then when I went to the cashout-in-lieu-of department, they said, “Oh, it's out of our hands. It's the escalation department. You have to go to the supervisor.” I went back and forth. Finally, I got somebody in the cashout-in-lieu-of department who was very sympathetic and was the only kind person I talked to. She said, “Hey, Scott, it's our system. There's nobody to go to. When you get sent to the escalation department, they can't even do anything. We all work from home. And they don't care.” So, that one lady and the other lady in the cashout-in-lieu-of said, “I can understand why you wouldn't want the plumber in your house.”

They charged me a $125 service fee, which took me 12 times to try to get that back. I still haven't received it yet, and I'm still waiting on a check for $750. What is interesting is that I think this happens so often that I caught a day where the plumbers were so busy that they just didn't even decide to hide it. It's so accepted. If the guy had even just walked into my house for five minutes and said, “You owe me $750,” I would have believed him and said, “Oh, okay. Here you go. Let me give you my money.” At the end of the day, people were very rude and unapologetic, and the way Home Shield works is there's nothing that you can do.

Sears has done as far as they have been able, waiting for a part to just finish the job. The last technician came in with the intention to install the gasket but that gasket had not arrived by the time he visit me. The gasket just arrived yesterday and ready to be installed. In addition to that, a hose for the water intake of the fridge has to be installed by a plumber, according to the technician. I wish American Home Shield could do something to include in Sears' appointment the personnel able to put the water as well as the gasket.

AHS lived up to my expectation. They replaced my refrigerator and I'm okay. I'm very happy with the service I'm getting. If you have in mind the cost of a technician on your own, you are well off with American Home Shield, even though every service call is $100. The way the wages are today, it's only normal. I have a positive position about American Home Shield. I've been dealing with them for over 25 years when I was living in Miami. And finally, about three years ago, I found them here in Ocala and I did not hesitate to contact them and finally come out with an agreement with them.

American Home Shield is handy if the AC system has issues. It has been worked on several times and the claim experiences have gone very well. AHS always cover what they say they would cover. They are a little more expensive though. It was very affordable at first but the price has doubled since I started it. K & S Plumbing came out and replaced the heating elements in the water heater. They got the replacement parts ordered for my shower faucet and we’re still in progress. It's been about two weeks because they're busy.

As long as people don’t work normal hours, AHS is very convenient. I had to get off work because their hours were not very good for me. It was a struggle. But other than that, AHS is a great thing to have.

American Home Shield has been great so far, and I've been very pleased. We had an issue with our refrigerator, and they had GE Appliances come and try to fix it, but they couldn't. AHS gave us a check towards a new unit. It was quick. We also had an issue with the garbage disposal in our sink. They had a HVAC Pro Service come out and take a look. They couldn't fix it as well, so they installed a new one for us. Both contractors were good. The only thing is the fridge that we got through AHS conked out after three months. We weren't too pleased about that, and then we had to go through a different warranty. We got another fridge, but it took three weeks.

I had a problem with my pool pump and the techs that AHS first sent out had been working on it for years. But they said that it was something out of warranty, which it wasn't, then they tried to sell me a new pool pump that I didn't need. I asked AHS for a different company and they're working on it right now. I also had an air conditioner thing and Expert Pools came out. They're the only person that's worked on it but they said somebody tampered with it. Then they said I needed to buy this pump and it's going to cost $1,200. But I told them that I have a home warranty and that was not the point of a home warranty. I think they were just trying to screw me around to make me buy something from them. But I don't think it's American Home Shield’s fault.

When I first started using them 10 years ago, a guy tried to say that I needed a whole new air conditioner, then he left off the Freon port so that I wouldn't have any Freon. I told American Home Shield what happened, so they were able to give me the difference and have another guy replace it. They can't control the company that they send out, but some of these companies who are working for American Home Shield are just trying to figure ways to get more business on top of the warranty company.

American Home Shield's Service takes a little long where you get the techs out there, then they look at issue and they have to order a part. But the warranty is something good to have as far as cost effectiveness. Most times I used AHS, my experience had been pretty good. Their reps at the call centers are usually very nice people but they are hard to conversate with. The price of the warranty has gotten more expensive every year. I'm paying about $123 a month, then I pay $100 a call. So it's kind of getting almost to where it's not cost effective anymore.

I had a claim with AHS and when I submitted it online, their website was pretty user-friendly. But my experience with the service was terrible and it was a headache that could have been avoided. I still paid American Home Shield the money that I was supposed to send the contractor, but it took a month for the contractor to give me a diagnosis. So, instead of just waiting, I called my own contractor and the price that they gave me was cheaper than what I was quoted through American Home Shield.

Other than that, most of the time, my experience with AHS has been pretty good. A lot of it has to do with the contractors that they hire. If it's a good contractor, it'll be good. But if it's a bad contractor, it’s going to be bad. Before I even let the contractor come to my house, I'll look them up on BBB. And a lot of the times, American Home Shield would get the cheaper route of contractors. So, you don't get the best job. Also, a lot of the people that answer the phone are hard tp get a point across to. And when you got to tell them to escalate it so you could talk to somebody else, it would be a 9 out of 10 that you might not even get a call back.

The plumbing company was really hard to get ahold of. They said that they would call within 24 hours of me setting up the claim online, but they did not. So then, I called American Home Shield, then they tried to call them. That didn't work either because the plumbing company never answers their phone. They gave it a couple of days, and then the company eventually came. However, they couldn't do all of the job because they needed to call someone else. They did part of the job, which also involved cutting a hole in the wall. After they left, it took a long time for the next person to come because of the plumbing company. I had to keep calling American Home Shield to get them to try to call us. Finally, the next person came out and finished the job.

Once the job was completed, we needed to get someone to repair the hole. That took another week of calling American Home Shield every day and having them try to call the plumber. This morning, we finally got ahold of the plumber so they could verify that there was a hole in the wall and then start a new claim for someone to come fix it. It's been about a month since the claim started up until finally being able to close the claim because of the hole in the wall.

It's not American Home Shield's fault that the plumbing company didn't come, but their policies are really annoying and bureaucratic because they have to give 24 hours over and over again. They would call me every day and say, "We're still trying. We're giving them 24 hours." How many times will they be giving them 24 hours? Will it just go on forever? We had sewage smell in the house, so it was hard to wait. Now, the sewage smell is gone and the plumbing parts are fixed, but the hole is still there. American Home Shield set the request for the new company to call me about the hole, and they're supposed to call me in 24 to 48 hours.

They couldn't look at where the leak was coming from and they filed it as they didn't cover it. I had to remove the cement and it showed that the leak was coming from inside the wall and they didn't want to pay to remove the cement.

We didn’t have a functioning bathroom in the basement but since December, it seems that everything's fixed. American Home Shield was not able to figure out the paperwork in time for Carl's Plumbing to fix all the issues. So, they just fixed the block stoppage. I liked Carl's. The other two companies were useless. All they wanted to do was charge me a ridiculous amount of money personally and kept doing the wrong thing, even after I told them what the problem was. Then, they wanted me to put in an extraction pump to the tune of $8,000 that other plumbers told me I didn’t need. And the other company came out and scoped the wrong way and tried to say that it was all blockage from outside the house, which it wasn't. So, I'd never let those two companies back into my house again.

I keep on telling everybody if they see American Home Shield, run the other way. It is that bad and I am so disgusted. On top of it, because American Home Shield goes through India, all you hear are people who can barely speak English or their accent is so heavy that it's very difficult to understand them. I have nothing against people from India but if it's an American Home Shield, you expect to speak to an American that you can understand. I found myself repeating myself and asking them to repeat themselves because that communication was just not there. It’s irritating and it added more irritant on top of already an irritating or frustrating scenario. So, I have had very few things that I've been happy about when dealing with American Home Shield.

The website is a joke. The actual problems that we were having in their dropdown menu didn't apply. So, all it did was create confusion when people started calling and asking what was wrong. We had all the blockages. We had a backup where the basement was filled with water for the backup and a breakage on the mixer valve and it was squirting water everywhere and it flooded our basement. There was nothing on there that correlated with broken sewage in the basement. And we were getting pissed because, for a while, we had sewage in the basement. When we had Carl's, finally, a good company that came in, he said you can smell there's a sewage block-up in the basement.

If you're paying for the repair, you would have to spend so much money to have actual coverable insurance with AHS that it would no longer be worth it. You could take that money, put it off to the side as a slush fund and utilize it when needed. Because it's supposed to be big items in the home that you're insuring. That would be like getting auto insurance and the only thing it covered was the shift knob. You're completely up-pricing yourself right out of the market because not a lot of things happen and you're paying money for insurance just to have that soft glow of, “I have insurance for that.” And the payout isn't very good ever.

Right now, the lower heating element on my stove is broken and I would have to pay 125. The part is 110. So, it's cheaper for me to go and buy the element, take out four screws, and do it myself. I'm sure there are thousands of people that had wonderful experiences but I had a horrible experience with AHS and it was on multiple facets.

Total breach of contract. So I had a problem that there was backup in the laundry room so not only have I paid American Home Shield, $600 in one year for the program. I also had to pay for the serviceman to come out here at $125, well they dug a hole in the yard and gave me this big explanation about how they had to reroute the pipe blah blah blah so I get a thing on American Home Shield page that says I need to accept that I’ll pay $700 for the subcontractor Plumber to do the work at $700. When I asked for a second opinion it was refused time and time again so finally, after about two weeks of saying, the contract says you’re allowed to have a second opinion they proceeded to tell me that if the next plumber came out and said the same thing it would cost me an additional $125.

Well the second one came out and I got an estimate from them on the American Home Shield page and it says for me to sign it for them. The subcontractor Plumber second one to do the work well the amounts were to be decided to be decided and total amount of bill to be decided and they expected me to sign that never have I seen paperwork or any reason or a breakdown of what the bill would cover or what they were doing so my final question to American Home Shield was what are you actually covering? They stated fixing the pipe but nowhere does it say simply that the subcontractors will just fix the pipe so in response American Home Shield said basically they would cover nothing so I have a hole in my backyard. I have a broken pipe. It’s been three months. They price gouge me, and I have no solution, and they refused to fix it.

I had a claim with the HVAC and the techs that AHS sent found that it was replaceable due to normal wear and tear. However, I got the Gold plan and I gave my mom the Platinum plan which takes care of getting things up to code, the Freon and all that you need when you get a brand new system. So, I had to pay for what American Home Shield would not pay for and because of that, I had to let the plan go because I was already paying 125 per month on the HVAC loan that I had to take out.

In the end, I kept the policy for my mom, but I couldn't keep paying the 125 for both policies as well as the 125 for the HVAC loan. Also, I ended up going with someone else so I didn't use the person that American Home Shield recommended because they were going to be $1,000 more. So I got my own HVAC person and I paid $7,000 to have the new unit installed. On the other hand, American Home Shield sent me $600, which was all they sent. If I had the Platinum plan, I would not have paid anything.

I had another claim before that and it was with my electric system. I had someone come out and they told me it needed to be replaced. But American Home Shield decided to send another person and the second opinion person said it was some kind of electrical fire that happened inside the box that I wouldn't have known anything about. So I asked American Home Shield how would they know if the first person was telling the truth or the second person was telling the truth and they said they decided to go with the second person, so I needed to pay the $5,000 for the whole system. So I did. But the whole point was it was disheartening because it almost seemed like you need a third opinion to break the tie. Also, the second tech said that they paid him to find out if they were really going to have to put out a lot of money, so that made it look fishy.

Overall, AHS is a good company. But if I had to tell people some things they need to know, I would tell them to always go with the Platinum plan even though you think you don't need it, because most houses are not up to code. My house is fairly new and it still wasn't up to code. I would also tell them to always ask for a second opinion if they disagree with a tech's diagnosis.

There was some frustration because it took a while to take action and resolve the problem with the fridge. American Home Shield kept sending a lot of technicians and over and over, the guy couldn't fix it. Finally, by the sixth time, I escalated it to someone on the AHS team and they sent me $150 for a dorm room refrigerator. Then we eventually just replaced the refrigerator and AHS paid the replacement value. It was good. I'm satisfied and glad that we had the coverage.

I've used American Home Shield quite a bit at my house. The contractors they’ve sent are usually good. Sometimes, the contractors are trying to just get money and reimbursement for AHS. One guy came over and he was supposed to fix the bathroom fan. It was unsafe and it was heating and melting the paint as well as burning the wood on the ceiling. All the guy did was replace it with the exact same model of the fan. So, it was a complete waste of time and money because he put it in the same position. But AHS fixed things at my other properties too. I have two other contracts with them and it's worth it though one of the problems is their overseas desk can be frustrating to deal with.

After that labor and everything, there was an overpay of 350 something dollars that I was supposed to pay back. I did contact them and I told them that my understanding was we pay monthly. I was paying monthly for both homes. I did not understand that if we were paying monthly, why was it that every time they would come out, I had to be paying like 125. Supposedly, American Home Shield told me that they cover the part but they don't because they were charging me the part. There was this part where the tech had it with him and they still charged me for it for 350 something. I just decided to cancel. For anything that will wrong, I would just call a plumber or anybody, which is gonna end up being the same thing. Nobody tried to resolve my problems.

My dryer was not working and when I submitted a claim with AHS, I had a three technician visits and the fourth visit was a different technician. When the first technician came out, he didn't have the parts necessary, so he left and ordered the parts. Then he came back for the second time roughly two and a half weeks later and was still missing a part. He left again and kind of Mickey Moused it. The dryer was working for a little bit, then it broke down within two and a half weeks. He came back out and did another parts order. At that point, the company decided that they needed to send a more experienced tech to come out and do the repair. That individual came out and apparently, they didn't need any parts and they were able to fix it. So it was a lot of going back and forth, and it took almost two months to get it all completed and finally working.

Since my dryer had broken down, it led to inconveniences at the house not being able to complete our washing and drying of our clothes. Also, I had to contact the company and then American Home Shield to make sure that somebody followed up. When I called, AHS just provided me updates or they reached out to the company to see what was going on. It seemed like their hands were tied in the sense that they had to wait for the technician’s report before they could make any decisions on what needed to happen to move forward. So it was a lot of waste of time in between.

I also had another claim that wasn't resolved because there was no follow-up. But for my other claims that got followed up on and completed, the work was paid for and I didn't have to pay anything other than my copay. Also, like everywhere else, it seems like prices keep going up and we don't have an explanation as to why or let alone have a choice. You can either agree or go look somewhere else.

We kept calling American Home Shield who would text or call the person but couldn't guarantee that they'd call us back. We finally had to ask for a second contractor who did come out and was really good. But he was unable to fix the problem. So we had to buy a new air conditioning unit, which AHS provided $100 towards. They didn't cover the new air conditioner which cost $10,000. So I'm not very fond of them. I love American Home Shield. My Fisher & Paykel oven wouldn't work so I called them to find a service repair man but they couldn't find anyone who was qualified to do it. They went out of their network and said I could call around myself. So I did and found someone. I got the rep and the tech on the phone. The rep from AHS agreed to pay the tech. He did the repair and gave AHS his license number. Then, I had to send the bill through email. I gave him the check and AHS reimbursed me. It was amazing. It was a little tedious but they approved it. The customer service form AHS is the best. I call them if I have any questions and they answer.

My friend told me I needed to get American Home Shield because my husband passed. My furnace went out and I didn't know what to do. So, I was calling around and my friend told me I’m by myself now and that I need to get insurance. She told me to get American Home Shield. I don't have to make 10 calls and pay a deposit. I pay 100 bucks and they do everything else, within reason. There are stipulations on whatever plan I take. So, I couldn't believe it. When the furnace first went out, I had to call around, get estimates and do all the work. People would come in and take advantage of me because I'm a single woman. It makes a difference when you're by yourself as a woman. I got all these crazy bids and I was told I had to get three bids. So, I did. And they were right because somewhere out of the ballpark, you find the middle ground.

Prior to all this, my husband did everything. So, when all these happened after he passed and before my friends told me about AHS, I would go online and call and call. And even any repairs around the house, I had to put it on a Facebook site and have people come over. Some crazy people came over here. One phone call and AHS takes care of the rest, which is what I like. I don't have any of the headaches of trying to figure out all the prices and this and that. Sometimes, I just go online and do my service request. Then somebody will call me. The contractor will make an appointment or I'll get a text. American Home Shield is the top. It is the most amazing service to me in the world and I am so grateful I heard about it.

One time, I got confused and they walked me through the whole process. When my air conditioner went out, I paid the guy and AHS said I already paid him. I paid online and the guy didn’t know so he had to come back and give me the check. So, even with the confusion, AHS is always wonderful. If you don't use it all the time, you learn about these things. Everyone is extremely professional.

AHS recently increased my prices to almost 30 extra a month and I can’t afford that. I'm retired. I would’ve had to cancel and I didn't want to. I’d have to start looking for another company and someone would do the same thing. It was stressful. $30 a month is almost like $350 a year, which is a lot of money. I said I had to cancel and the rep told me not to and to call back this number the next day and talk to one of their sales representatives. He could have a better option for me and see if that'll work for me. So, I called and talked to this gentleman. He gave me some other opportunities to stay with the company, which was more affordable for my budget. So, that worked out. I was so impressed. I don't wanna lose AHS because being out there on your own is awful.

Every homeowner should have AHS, especially as you age. There's no way you can do all this work by yourself. There are a lot of people out there and you have no idea what's fair. Before I found American Home Shield, one furnace guy gave me a $47 deal to come in and do this winter check. When he was leaving, he gave me a $200 bill. He said the $47 was just a come-on and he was here for two hours so I was gonna have to pay him $200. I said I was not paying him anything. He called his boss and called me a liar. And this is me by myself in the house with this man who lost his mind. I just sat there. I told him I was not paying him so he could do whatever he wanted. So, he left.

I called the company and they wouldn't answer. I left a message and they sent me a bill. I sent it right back. I said I would pay the $47, which was the agreement. And that was the end of that. But the stress of all of that wasn't worth it. I've been doing this for 10 years on my own until I found American Home Shield and that's one incident. I had about seven that there's been something crazy that happened to me.

Hearing nothing, I contacted the plumbing contractor and discovered that they had not assigned my AHS repair to a plumber, but then scheduled one for Jan 25th. The plumber came out and indicated that our toilet was cracked and that it needed to be replaced and that he didn't want to touch our hot water heater because flushing it could cause more problems, so he advised waiting until it failed to worry about it.

Waited to hear from AHS, then called 2/5/24 and was told by their representative "Jason" that the service was covered and he put a call into the plumbing contractor and they were waiting for the toilet. Again, nothing from contractor, attempted to leave messages, no response. Received a call from AHS on 2/27/24 that the claim was still under review. When I stated that "Jason" had said it was approved, she said that this was not true, it was still under review. Today, 2/15/24, I finally spoke to someone at the plumbing contractor and they told me that AHS had denied the claim on 1/27/24 and that I should have received an email from them. I stated that I had not and that I was still dealing with a leaking toilet. She apologized but there was nothing they could do. This is my first claim to AHS and I will probably look to cancel the contract as I don't have any expectation that they will cover anything in the future.

Having AHS, I get the assurance that if I have a problem in my home, I know that it's covered and I owe $85. My most recent claim with American Home Shield was a good experience. I had my well went out. They didn't pay for all of it, but they paid a good portion of it. They have a limit that I didn't know, on replacement, but it made sense. Their website is great, too. I prefer that than to have to wait to talk to somebody. They also seem to deal with qualified technicians. You might take a couple of days to get somebody out, but when they come out, they know what they're doing.

I had a good experience with American Home Shield till this last episode. I ended up having to go buy a refrigerator ‘cause I couldn't get anybody to come out here and fix my old refrigerator. It quit cooling on December the 23rd. I called it in that day. A week later, they dispatched somebody to come out here and look at it. Their company is 100 miles from where I live. The guy got out of his car and looked like a thug. He couldn't even speak English. He was trying to translate to me through his phone. I'm 71 years old, and I don't do that. I politely told him to leave and not come back.

American Home Shield charged me $75 for that. They didn't offer any recourse on it and told me they could come look at my old refrigerator after I bought my new one and see if they could fix it. They didn't even offer to reimburse me for my refrigerator. They told me they couldn't get any money back on the service call because they sent somebody out here. I've had American Home Shield for 20 years. This is the first trouble I've ever had with them. They didn't act like they wanted to help me. The reps can't speak English good enough that I can understand. I'm fixing to drop them and go to somebody else.

I submitted a service request for our AC during the summer. It was around the time when it was too hot, and American Home Shield took care of all the problems. They had to get a service tech out and he was good. He took care of the issue, explained everything to me and handled everything really well. He didn't even leave any mess. Everything worked out fine, and I haven’t had any problems. I always recommend American Home Shield.

It's easy to submit a claim and if we have any questions, the reps are able to either answer it or connect us to a senior representative who's able to answer. The contractors have worked out well for us too. They completed the job on time and ordered the correct parts. They were efficient, and they worked well with American Home Shield. Last year, the air compressor on our AC unit was shot and it had to be replaced.

American Home Shield cares about their customers and customer satisfaction is high, but there is one thing I don't like about the product. I can only request one service at a time. For example, if I was having an issue with my refrigerator and my dishwasher, I would have to be charged for two service calls. If they were two appliances within the kitchen area, then they should be on the same service call, if the technician can handle that type of service. Now, if it was a refrigerator or my garbage disposal, then I know they would need to send out a plumber as opposed to someone who could fix a refrigerator. I can understand being charged for two service calls, but if it's something that one technician can handle, then that technician should be able to work on both appliances.

I didn't have any repair but American Home Shield was charging me. A vendor came back but that was not even a repair and they were charging me for that too. They didn't even listen to the vendor. It's been a bad experience. If I call, they're all over the world now. They used to be in Nashville, Tennessee. They can’t even speak English. They say, “We don't know how to transfer it.” That's a lie. One time, I did a claim for a dryer vent cleanup but they came for a dryer for the household fan. I said, “No. I did not call for this,” but the guy said I gotta pay him. The rep didn't know how to write the claim.

I pay the payment and they do not even send me an email that they have received my payment. They used to do that. At one time, I had 14 properties with them. They said they would give me a discount for properties added to the account but I've never seen those in my statement. I've been with them for more than 15 years but I dropped them. I got a lot of company offering me half of what American Home Shield is offering. They're charging $100 per month of premium and $100 for a vendor fee which used to be 70.

We've had a few claims with American Home Shield, and we're very happy with the service. The customer service representatives are usually really helpful and thorough. They send out people, and they can always handle all the problems. I've been working with contractors for about 30 years, and some of the contractors through American Home Shield have been some of the best that I've ever worked with in my entire life, specifically Ben. He was the appliance repair guy, and he was so knowledgeable and fantastic.

When Ben’s Appliance Repair was out here, we had four different items that were all broken. They were a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a washer and dryer, and an oven, and Ben was able to fix everything. It was easy peasy for him. A lot of the repair people own their own businesses, so they're small business owners, and they truly are the best of the best in the industry. We're very satisfied.

Submitting the claim with American Home Shield is never a problem, but the only reason we're keeping it right now is for when something catastrophic were to happen. We've had two instances where I didn't think the repair was done completely. One was a clogged toilet, and the repair people got it working again but they told me there was something further up in the drain. I thought they should have put a camera or some tool in there to clear it out, but they declined to do that because it was working. I don't know if they just don't have enough contractors or their job is just to hurry up and get it done, but it's frustrating.

My last claim was this past summer when our air conditioner went out. I called for that one, and the reps were not very helpful. It was going to be three days before anyone could be out, and this was in the middle of the big heat wave. It was 100 degrees, and I told them we couldn't go three days. They said that that was the only thing they could offer me, so I ended up calling someone on my own and paid to have it fixed. Overall, the quality of the service has gone downhill in the three years we've had American Home Shield.
