I have been with American Home Shield for about a year. I got it to make sure my risk is reduced. Navigating their website is okay, and when I submitted a claim, I did it online.

I had a couple of issues that needed fixing. The main sewage line was clogged, there were issues with two toilets, and one sink was clogged too. The contractor they sent out was very good, and everything is performing well now.

I had two separate contractors come out for my oven, which was not retaining heat. The most recent one, they were great and responsive, but there wasn't a lot they could do. They would replace the parts, and it wouldn't work. We went through two rounds of that before my oven was finally deemed non-repairable and replaced.

The process took way too long. My first claim was in May, and it wasn’t resolved until the week after Thanksgiving. Both companies said the oven needed to be replaced, but it took more than six months to replace it. I spent way more money on groceries that were lost than I should have. I do not feel like I was being listened to. This issue was terrible, and right now, I would not recommend using American Home Shield.

American Home Shield sent PARC Appliance Repair, who came out on two different occasions and repaired my stove. Sears had come out maybe five or six times before that, and every time they came, they needed a part. They ordered a part and waited for it to come, but it was the wrong part. I understand that when you fix something, sometimes the first time you might fix the wrong thing. But they came several times, and it wasn't until the final time that PARC Appliance came that they finally fixed it.

The whole claim took a couple of months, from around October until it was repaired in December. I was very dissatisfied with that experience. I had probably 15 to 20 calls, texts, and emails back and forth, and visits from repair people. It was such a crazy incident.

What I like most about American Home Shield is that I can call and I can get a serviceperson out to my home pretty quickly initially. I used them before. The first time they fixed my stove was in August, and then the same thing started happening again in October. So, I ended up having to call them back again.

I would recommend American Home Shield because, for the money, it’s a pretty good value. It's just that one bad experience that I had. I'm hoping that if I need them again, then it won't be like that.

My garage door wouldn’t close completely. It would go down a bit and then come back up. So I opened the service request. When they came, they said it was a bit tight, which gets worse in the winter. They showed me two screws to adjust back and forth in the future if needed, and said this is very common.

They were gone in less than five minutes, and at that time, it seemed to be working. But after a few days, the problem started happening again, and this time it was worse. In the past, it didn’t always happen, sometimes it happened in summer too but mostly it was related to cold weather.

So we opened another request and contacted them again. This time, the technician came, seemed a bit confused at first, checked a few things, and then called me to explain that the wire on one side was loose. At some point, it had either completely disconnected or was still loose. He showed me where it was and said he had fixed it. The second time, the problem had gotten much worse, it wouldn’t close even after several tries.

If I have to close my garage door, I have to keep pushing the button for the garage door to completely close. He said that was due to the loose or disconnected wire, which I have no idea how it happened. He fixed it and said, it won’t happen again. Since then, it’s been completely fine, even during this cold winter.

Everything is perfect, actually. My past experience with American Home Shield wasn’t great, so this is probably the second or third time I’ve used them, with some stops and starts. But so far, this time has been good. I like that the process doesn’t require too much human interaction.

If I have any issues, I book online and immediately get emails, and I’m assigned a person right away. Both times, I was told someone would contact me within 24 hours. When that didn’t happen, I called them, and then they were able to give me an appointment quickly.

American Home Shield is a worthwhile investment. I’m very satisfied with them. I like the ease of submitting a claim. And I’ve had them for about three to four years now. And I got them because of the number of appliances we have, and I know that sometimes it’s cheaper to repair the appliances than to replace them.

Recently, I had an issue with the freezer portion of the GE refrigerator-freezer. We had water freezing up at the bottom of the freezer. And so, I called AHS, and the representative I talked to was excellent. And they assigned Sears to come out for it. Sears then gave us a date and time to come, but they had a cancellation, so they ended up scheduling an earlier appointment. And so, they came out and got everything resolved. And everything has been working excellently now.

It’s been worth the money, and the service provided has been impeccable. I like the convenience of knowing that the service I pay for will be handled professionally and promptly.

I like it to have that extra added protection especially as being a first time homeowner. To this day, I’ve had my property almost four years and I don’t have a handyman. American Home Shield is able to connect me with companies that do the work. Work is guaranteed, and I go on about my business. AHS’ warranty is a good added piece of insurance to have especially if you’re a homeowner.

When I have an issue, I call American Home Shield. They do my deductible and they connect me with someone right away. I would be told which company I’m assigned to the work order, and to expect a call from them.

However, I really had a bad experience this last time with this plumbing company. The first person they sent out, he didn’t speak no English. He kept sticking his phone in my face, as if he was telling me to read something off of it. So that was kind of aggravating. I requested that they send out someone that understands English after that but they ended up sending him out again. They couldn’t rectify the problem until they sent out the third plumber. He identified where the leak was coming from and was able to correct it. However, the company ended up putting a hole in my ceiling in the basement where the leak was coming from. They cut out some drywall and did not repair it.

We were not pleased with the most recent claim with American Home Shield. We had an air conditioner unit replaced this summer. But when the temperatures turned cold, we weren't getting any heat through the unit that was replaced. I called directly to the company that replaced it and they said I had to go through American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield and had to pay a $100 fee to have them send the same company. All it was was the people that replaced the unit before didn't flip a switch to turn the gas back on to the unit. It was a very simple fix. Submitting a claim was understandable and the instructions were easy to follow. It was just frustrating to have to pay again for somebody to flip a switch. That was absolutely ridiculous.

Besides that, the contractors are great. I've not had any problems with any of the contractors that they send out.It would have been great if I had been able to talk to a human and they would have sent someone out without charging me.

I called A&C Heating & Cooling because my furnace would start up but wouldn't stay on. Initially, they tried to charge me an additional service fee. I spoke with a supervisor since this was not my first issue and the previous company they sent tampered with my cooling system and didn't fix it fully. The supervisor was good and waived the fee for me. A&C Heating & Cooling ended up replacing a huge part of my furnace. It didn't cost me anything and they repaired it correctly because it has been working ever since. I would tell a friend to get an idea of what is covered before paying to have someone come out. Overall, I rate the service a 4 and the price a 3.

I bought my home in June, though the coverage probably didn’t start until July. It was recommended at the closing table, and I’d always heard good things about American, which was one of the top three companies everyone suggested.

I had a recent claim for a bathroom exhaust fan. They initially sent someone out who said that I need a new motor. They scheduled a return visit and then replaced the motor. The contractors were very professional and prompt. They didn’t take long, and knew what they were doing. It worked well. I had no issues.

I like that I pay $30 a month, and I don’t mind the cost because I got a deal. Everything is covered, and I hope I can keep that. With everything being so expensive, it’s nice to have something affordable. I pay the $125 service fee, they send someone out, and it’s much cheaper than paying hundreds of dollars to fix something at home. I like the affordability, and as long as it stays that way, I’ll continue using it.

It's good to have home insurance. I’d highlight how professional and prompt it was, including the contractors they worked with. They were great about sending emails and calls to schedule around my availability and letting me know when they were on their way. Very professional.

We submitted a claim for our dryer recently, and we had to have the company come out three separate times. The first time was initially with an issue that we were having with the dryer. And then every time the technician came out, it created another issue. And the biggest problem I had specifically was the last time they had to come out. I had to put in a recall notice with AHS to have the vendor come back out because they’re the ones that caused the issue, not AHS.

And the process I went through trying to get that recall notice and it being sent over to the company was a complete mess. Because of that, I was in the ICU for a week because of heart issues due to the amount of stress that I was under, which was unbelievable.

So, I went through the same process with our air conditioning unit, where the technician who came out three times to look at our air conditioner did not fix it at all, to where we had to call a whole separate company to come out and fix the problem. And it was nothing that the previous company stated was wrong with the HVAC. And I had to pay $100 every time that person came out, which was ridiculous.

And the technician for the HVAC was horrible. He was rude and didn’t know what he was doing. But the one who came out not too long ago for the dryer was very professional. They took it upon themselves to realize it was their issue, and they tried to take corrective action.

But the only issue I have with AHS is it’s just way too expensive. The monthly cost is ridiculous. And it seems like if you put in a claim, then they’re just gonna keep jacking up the price, because they say that they have to get the most qualified technicians. But the thing is, the companies that they contract with are not that great. So, it's a shame. I’m now looking to do something else and to find a different company to go with.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2017. I did the claim by phone and the customer service experience was fine. The most recent issue was a sump pump that I've had a problem with for over a year. I've had five to six different plumbers come out and they've changed it out three times. Each plumber tells me something different with what's wrong.

The issue with American Home Shield is it may be two or three months before the problem starts up again, so I have to pay again to have somebody come out, which I do not like. The issue has not been officially resolved and I have to pay the service fee over and over. That is something I just don't agree with.

American Home Shield has done other work for me and I haven't had any issues with those. I would tell others that AHS is a subpar company. They should work with better contractors.

JG Services came out because we didn't have heat. Very nice young man. He checked the system thoroughly, discovered what was wrong, and repaired it. He was in and out in less than 40 minutes. All good. My prior service call, which was for a pool company, never showed up. American Home Shield processed the fee. I couldn't get anyone to return the money. That was good for AHS, bad for me. But I've found AHS to be responsive and organized. AHS traveled with us through three homes. I got this service for us in 2006. I get the value I pay for. I told many people about AHS. They wouldn't listen.

Several times, they made it super difficult to cancel your contract, they refused to give a confirmation number or email stating you canceled your AHS contract. They put you on a resolution services line with no actual number you can call as it goes through a call center; thus, if they hang up on you, which they did a few times with me, you have to start the process again. Being tenacious, I called over and over again. They guaranteed to send me an email the last two times showing my contract was canceled; guess what? It was not; the last phone call, they promised it was canceled, and there was no further need to do anything; my wife called to check, and guess what? The contract was still active, but they promised it was closed, and I should be receiving a $65 refund; also, out of the blue, they said I needed to sign a form stating I canceled.

Hold on...They verified it was me calling, and now they never said I needed a form to fill out, another delay tactic; I played along and stated, please email it now while on the phone. I waited, and they said it was sent out. Guess what? No email. Another fact for you all experiencing this out-of-country domain highway robbery is simply canceling the payments through your banking or credit card company. They are snake oil salesman. The installers they send are constantly complaining about the poor management of dispatching, etc.

Do not accept that they have canceled your contract as they are told to delay and impede the process so you can give up. This is your hard-earned money, and you need to put a stop to their theft and hiking rates at will. In one month with no notice, my rate went from $58 to $78 per month, a 26% hike with no notice. There is more, but as you can see from the countless poor reviews, this company needs to be brought into the spotlight for its bad business practices and let justice by the people have the final say. Please read these poor reviews all over the internet before signing a contract. Buyer BEWARE.

This company is a scam. My well pump broke down and we were without water and they sent a con artist "Proservice Hvac & Plumbing" to come inspect it days later. He said it was broken but insisted on trying to sell me a new water tank too for 6k, but I would have to wait a week without water for them to have time to come do the work. This was 2x the cost of what my own water service company would charge.

AHS said they would do cash in lieu, but are now denying it as the scam "technician" did not send in the report. I believe he waited two months to send in the report out of spite for me hiring my own guys. I needed water! It has been two months and countless phone calls later and AHS are still fighting it. Now the scam technician sends in a report and only mentions the water tank (which is not covered) and does not mention the well pump (which is covered) out of spite for not working with him. Now we have to keep chasing to get the full report, but of course AHS puts that onus on me instead of doing their job.

AHS will make you call into a foreign call center for each communication, which takes 15+ minutes to get through to a human and then the person has no idea of what's going on each time and then does nothing to follow up, so they try to waste as much of your time as possible to hope you give up. Avoid this company and Proservice Hvac & Plumbing at all costs! They are criminals.

Multiple investigations done and “resolved” but never actually properly updated my account to reflect it. Ending up having to pay an additional couple hundred only to not receive expedited service same day as payment when my garage was getting flooded by the washing machine. We have paid for their services guaranteeing repair or replacement, call 4 times a day for them to say it is under review then say they will only pay half for a new furnace and that is it.

THAT is fraud, deceptive practices and they have already have many many complaints that have been filed through various agencies and legal systems. Do NOT give them any money without due diligence. There are so many complaints and videos of people being left for MONTHS with no appliances or repairs and replacements were cheap quality and not equal models. But he said that the AC will not work because something shorted out and fried the board. So more work needed to be done. They had to order more parts, and because my unit is 25 years old, it may take a while to find the parts for this unit. They did not give me an ETA, and I have not heard from them since.

They have fixed several issues with my previous home but every major repair or replacement came with significant delay not to mention the challenge in getting them to cover the repair at all. They are great with the little repairs but horrible with major repairs. Make every excuse not to cover the problem. This go around my water heater went completely out on a Saturday. They assigned it to a contractor in a different state that could not come out until the following Tuesday to even look at the water heater. I don’t know about the rest of the world but I work for a living and take a shower daily. It’s January in Maryland where an ice cold shower would not be conducive to my health.

In the meantime I made one phone call to a local plumber and they came out the same day and replaced the broken water heater. AHS refused to approve the contractor forcing me to pay out of pocket. Customer Service refused to let me speak with a manager and advised they sent an email request and they would get back to me in two business days. Just horrible service experience. I honestly would not recommend this company to anyone.

I would NOT recommend AHS unless you have an abundance of time to waste and extra money to spend. 1. Without any notice they increased my monthly charge for our policy. 2. We spend $125 for service calls which wouldn't be problematic IF the service calls they sent out actually were for legitimate companies but I would say most are not. Sometimes it can be weeks worth of waiting to get a single company to come out. 3. They DO NOT value loyalty with customers. I just got off the phone with Rose in customer relations at AHS as well as Sheekie and they will not honor a lower monthly plan cost (for the same plan I currently have that also is lower service fee cost) that they are advertising. If you have other options, I would choose another option besides AHS.

The technician came out but didn’t have all the tools he needed. He said the washer drum was no longer round and needed to be replaced, along with a plastic gear. He didn’t have the tools to access that gear. He ran a self‑diagnostic on the machine, but that was about all he did.

American Home Shield ended up replacing the washer, which was great, because the drum alone would have cost almost as much as the machine. This was actually the second repair on it, though I don’t remember who did the first one.

We waited about a week and a half to two weeks to hear back. We’re senior citizens and couldn’t keep going without a washer, so we bought one ourselves. Then we got home and saw an email saying American Home Shield was paying for the replacement.

We bought another Maytag, the same type of machine. We purchased it on Black Friday and used a military discount, so we got a really good price and basically broke even with American Home Shield. We probably would have paid more otherwise, but we were fortunate.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for years, and they’ve always treated me well. I’ve only had one or two claims, and that’s it. They’ve been really good overall. Sometimes things move a little slow, but that’s usually on the service provider, not them.

I have been with American Home Shield for about a year and a half now. And then the CJA Mechanical came out. I used them a couple of times. My most recent experience with them was that I had to wait a week and a half for them to show up. They don't call me to schedule.

So, I have to call them multiple times to try to get an appointment set. Then they came out. I left them a message and told them to call me when they were there so I could review with them.

I have a tenant in the house and wanted to review with them directly what was going on. But they did not call me. They went in. And I was told by the tenant that they were there for two seconds, looked at it, and then left. I called them to follow up. I didn't get any response from them.

I called American Home Shield and spoke to someone who told me that they are reviewing the estimate. And then I called back the next day because I did not get an update. They told me that they sent a report saying that there were toxic materials in the home, and they couldn't enter, even though the tenants said they did enter and they were there.

So, I said, “I don't know what that means. There's no toxicity when someone is living there.” And they said they would find out. They sent them a message.

During this whole time, my tenant did not have any hot water. So, I called back the next day and asked if they got an update. And the response from them was that they were reading that there were some illegal substances, so they couldn't enter. But they did not enter.

Now, they're changing what they're telling me in the report. I reached out to them to get an update on what's going on. I spoke to the tenant, and they said they don't know what they're talking about.

There's no illegal substance. I don't see anything toxic. If there is, I would like to know about it.

This went on for a week, trying to get an update from them.

I called the CJ Mechanical. And American Home Shield reached out to them, all the while telling them that my tenant has no hot water. I said, “If they're not gonna go in, I need someone else assigned to get this job done.”

I just spoke to a supervisor and to another supervisor. They told me that they can't assign it to someone else because CJA Mechanical has already gone there. I said, “Okay. Open up another service ticket then and assign it to someone else.”

They said, “If we open it, we don't know who it's gonna get assigned to.” I told them to open it and make sure it gets assigned to someone else. Finally, after 48 hours, someone else called me back, told me they had assigned it to someone else.

And then within an hour, I heard from that assigned vendor. I scheduled them to show up the next day. They went in and reviewed it. They were in contact with me afterwards. And then we got it resolved after an order was placed for a replacement tank.

Then we followed up with American Home Shield and told them that I'm not paying for CJ Mechanical because they didn't do anything. We reached out to them for a week, and we got no response. It took me a week and a half for them to finally show up to inspect, anyway.

After they showed up, they told me that we can't refund it. I'm paying them for a diagnosis and doing the work if it needs to be done, not just to show up. But they can't refund it once they show up. So, I just spoke to someone else, and they told me the same thing.

I spoke to another supervisor. So, it was two supervisors then. Finally, I got someone in escalation who told me to look into it, and they'll talk to someone. Then they refunded me.

But all the while for this whole thing, my tenant did not have hot water for over two and a half weeks. They wanted a rent reduction. And I spent countless hours trying to get this issue resolved. It took three weeks.

The heat's working now. I'm gonna tell them if I have any issues, to make sure American Home Shield does not assign CJA. But I am 100% confident that when I called, they couldn't assign it to specific vendors, but to whoever is available.

At the same time, two issues needed to be looked at. So, I called them and said, “This one's assigned to this vendor.” And you assign this other one, they're coming at the same time. They said, “We can't open up another ticket. Let's go through the whole thing again”.

They opened another one, said, “This vendor is not listed as servicing”. I reached out to the vendor, and they told me, “We service that all the time. I don't know what they're talking about.”

So, they had to call American Home Shield, finally got them signed, and they took care of both issues at the same time. Every time I have to call American Home Shield, I feel this same way.

When I submitted my claim with American Home Shield, I went online and on my phone. The process was really easy. They sent me an email, letting me know who and when they were coming.

When the individuals from Susina Electric & Appliance Services LLC showed up, they made a phone call to let me know that they were on their way. They came out twice because they fixed my washing machine and my stove.

Initially, the big burners of my stove weren't working at all. They were worn out. It was with Sears, but they never showed up. They kept pushing me back and not telling me why. I kept calling them, but I couldn't get anybody. So, I called American Home Shield.

They sent Susina Electric & Appliance Services LLC again. They ordered the parts for me to put in and fixed the stove. So I could use it while the parts came in. I just had to pull them in and put those back in. They came in, and they did the work fine. They did a good job, and the service was great.

I called them on the 13th about the washing machine. And they said they will call and let me know when they can come out. On the 14th, the technician, Sam, called and said that he was in the area. He came, and he fixed my washer.

He changed the parts out, what needed to be done. I thanked him. And he went on about his business.

I have had American Home Shield for almost 24 years, since I bought this house. The service is better this time. I know one time I had to get my water heater done, and it was ridiculous.

They sent someone out, and he wanted to charge me up to $1,000 to change a water heater. And I said, “I'm not doing that.” They kept giving me a runaround, and it really did bring up my blood pressure.

My son and I were talking. He said that it shouldn't be like that. The people are just trying to make more money off of me. And that’s not the way it's supposed to be.” I told him that this is unfair. I've been with them all these years. So, how come they're gonna tell me what I need?

All I know I need is the water heater. I don't need any extra stuff they were talking about, and I'm not gonna pay for that. I can't afford that. I'm paying them to take care of me. And I told them that I'm very upset, and it’s ridiculous that I have to go through this.

In the end, they asked me what I wanted to do. I said, “Well, give me the money to pay for my water heater, and I'll get somebody else to put it in”, which is my son. He’s a licensed plumber, so I got him to put my water heater on.

He said, “Momma, all you need is the water heater”. So, I don't know what the other people were talking about.” That was the one problem I had with that water heater. But with the last two jobs, everything was done.

As a matter of fact, I referred my kids to them because they were pretty good. I just told them that it was ridiculous with Sears because Sears never called or showed up. Normally, the company shows up on time.

They're gonna be here within the time period that they say. And Sears was like, I was waiting all day, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. But they never came. I waited four or five days. They were supposed to come on the 14th.

And then they said they were coming on the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th. Sears Home Care did not treat American Home Shield people right. So, it feels like they push us back to take care of their company.

So, I think Sears shouldn’t be one of the big contractors that work with American Home Shield, because they just keep pushing you back. And you can't get in contact with anybody.

If you try to call them back at the number that they give you, you can’t get through. Everything was AI, or automated.

They also kept changing appliances, and they changed mine. My stove was a General Electric, and then they had an Admiral stovetop, which wasn't my appliance name. So, I'm like, “You're changing the name, and the time. It just doesn't make sense.”

They said they’re sorry about it and that they’re going to make sure I get someone to come there and do it right away. It was with the first company, Susina Electric & Appliance Services LLC, who came that I had my washing machine fixed.

Someone from them came in and did the job. He said, “We're gonna get the other parts for your stove. And we're gonna send it to you.” He showed me how you just pull it in now because when I clean my stove, that's what I do too.

He also said that's all I have to do, because they're old and it's gonna go out again. I got my parts to exchange when they go out again completely. They did a good job. So, I'm very happy with their work.

    Reviewed Dec. 24, 2024

I started back in September and had a few issues. Everything isn’t on American Home Shield anymore. During a community power outage, my refrigerator went out, and my washer or dryer also wasn’t working. At first, I didn’t realize the fridge outage was due to the power outage until later. The washer or dryer definitely wasn’t working.

I put in two work orders. One for the garbage disposal and one for the washer. The garbage disposal technician was in for about five minutes, and the washer technician about the same. The washer technician told me there was nothing wrong with the washer, but I had a leak. The garbage disposal technician said he’d submit my work order and get back to me, but they’re on a busy schedule.

He didn’t call for a couple of days. The washer technician had already told me the washer was fine but there was a leak behind it. I called American Home Shield to adjust the work order to cover the leak. The representative said they’d add it while the plumber was there, but in the end, the plumber left, and there was a $125 dispute on both ends because nobody did anything or stayed in contact with me.

When I followed up on the garbage disposal, they said it would cost $700+ because of a pre-existing condition. I explained we’d only owned the house a year and didn’t know what happened before, so we didn’t want to pay that. We had five minutes with a plumber who had no tools, and the washer/dryer technician said there was nothing wrong with the washer. That was $250 spent with no resolution.

I wasn’t asking for any money back or compensation for the plumber or garbage disposal issue. The plumber was there for a few minutes with no tools. All we wanted was for them to fix the leak behind the washing machine, and we were willing to cover the cost. For two months, we went back and forth with false reports and unresolved work orders, constantly calling to find out what was going on.

It turned out the washing machine was broken, causing the leak at the back. I wanted them to fix the leak, but I spent $250 and got no work done. The bigger problem was how the American Home Shield representatives spoke to me. Each time I called, I was initially told it would be resolved and that they would transfer the work order.

In the next conversation, they said, they can’t transfer the work order once the plumber leaves, even though he was only there for five minutes. I explained the phone calls I’d been having, and they seemed surprised. They promised to review the calls and get back to me, saying they’d call by the end of the day, but I got that same response three or four times.

Between the bad phone calls, there were a few good ones where someone said they were taking care of it. But the next person would say No. Meanwhile, they had $250 of my money, and I kept requesting a supervisor. I was promised callbacks repeatedly. This went on for over a month, until the end of October or early November, until I finally got a supervisor who couldn’t believe what had happened until she started investigating and reading the notes.

I was telling the supervisor exactly what people had been saying to me, promises of compensation, they'll be out in a couple of days, or I’m on the list, and so on. Then a week later, I’m told they can’t do it because it’s $700. They didn’t tell me that a week ago. Meanwhile, the garbage disposal leak is still there a week and a half later. Nobody called me back. I had to keep pursuing it. They said it was a pre-existing issue, but I wasn't notified while all this was happening. I was left with leaks for another week and a half.

The situation with the washing machine was a whole other issue, very similar to the garbage disposal. Meanwhile, American Home Shield continued to hold my money and take automatic payments. For about two months, they kept billing me while I had $250 tied up and two leaks in my home. After all the back-and-forth, I was done and ready to drop them and pursue other options.

I wanted nothing to do with them anymore. They kept saying they’d take care of it, then a few days later, someone would say, they don’t know why she told me that, that’s not how it works. Meanwhile, they were holding $250 and nothing was done. On top of that, my husband had two strokes during this time, and after about a month and a half of constant back-and-forth and empty promises, I was completely done.

The next person I spoke with was rude, acting like I hadn’t been paying my account for a year. On the positive side, someone finally came out, fixed the leak, and I was sent a $125 refund for the plumber who wanted to charge $700, something I hadn’t been told about. This all happened a week and a half after the initial visit, despite being promised they’d get the part and return within a couple of days. It was frustrating how communication and billing got so mixed up.

The garbage disposal wasn’t going to be fixed unless I paid $700+. By the two-month mark, there was really nothing great to say about the experience. But the last supervisor I dealt with, after 10 to 12 calls, was very kind. She understood, sympathized, and empathized with how I was feeling throughout the process.

I was taking care of my husband, who can’t walk or talk, and needed to wash clothes while I was also recovering from a tummy tuck. Meanwhile, nobody came to fix the leak in my washing machine. It wasn’t actually fixed until maybe two or three weeks ago, in mid-November. Who does business like that, continuing to take money out of my account while leaving problems unresolved.

I was trying to be reasonable, but they kept saying they’d take care of things and didn’t. The last supervisor I spoke with, Ms. Terese, was very thorough. She went through all the notes and calls, verifying everything I had told her. She couldn’t believe what had happened until she reviewed every single interaction and identified who had been helpful and who hadn’t.

While waiting for approvals, Ms. Terese did everything she was supposed to. Even so, the process still took about a week and a half to two weeks. She was very thorough, asking me to verbalize every detail. At first, she found it hard to believe that everything had happened exactly as I described, thinking perhaps there had been a misunderstanding or miscommunication.

In the end, Ms. Terese realized that everything I said matched word-for-word what was in the notes. She was very apologetic, and the issue was resolved, though it took far too long. I can’t say I’ll stay with them long enough to go through this again. I’ll be looking for someone else.

Ms. Terese really smoothed things over. She kept me updated every day, calling to let me know she was still working on it and promising she wouldn’t let me down. Even on busy days, she would call to explain what was happening, which was a relief after so many people had promised callbacks and never followed through.

Even after Ms. Terese fixed everything, American Home Shield tried to bill me $125, after all she had done. I immediately called and explained that the charge was inappropriate. Within five minutes, they apologized and told me to disregard the bill.

Right now, I can’t give an overall positive opinion. If I had to highlight a “star,” it would be Ms. Terese, the supervisor who monitored all the calls, followed up consistently, and didn’t stop until everything was fixed. But one person can’t run a company, over half the staff clearly weren’t on the same page. They seem to be trained inconsistently, and some likely have bad days with customers.

I’m a retired veteran with 32 years in customer service, and in my experience, I never treated customers poorly or ignored their problems. I always followed policy and tried to fairly compensate people when things went wrong. What happened to me was unusual, one in a thousand, but in my case, two different companies came out, did nothing, and left me with leaks. I understand it’s not normal, but that’s what happened.

Absolutely. They only improve when they acknowledge mistakes. If a company wants to truly satisfy customers, they need to hire people who will get the job done and lead by example. That’s more important than any single experience. As a corporation, American Home Shield doesn’t realize that I’ve been completely worn down by their process.

The higher-ups don’t really know. They hire people to do the job and set a good example, but in my experience as a former boss in the industry, if someone mishandled a situation like this, I would immediately address it. It only takes one mistake to see the impact. I’m trying to be fair and base my opinion on what actually happened, not my frustration.

American Home Shield is prompt with service. Sometimes they try to deny a claim by saying it’s not normal wear and tear, even when it is. Overall, though, it’s a good warranty company. They take care of their customers, and I would recommend them.

I would call and speak to an American Home Shield agent and they’ll tell me the claim is covered, then turns out it's not covered when I call again to confirm with somebody else. I usually call multiple times just to see where they land and how many will tell me it is and it's not. I don't wanna pay for a service request, and then have some out here say it's not covered, then I wasted $125 for a service request, which has happened.

I called to see if AHS would fix my kitchen range. Someone came the first time but didn't even look at it. They didn't even pop it open or look at the duct. They just said, "It's an engine issue. It's not wired right. But we don't work on the brand. You'll have to call AHS." The brand of the range and other details were provided when I placed the service request, so that was a waste of my time.

They then sent a second company who came, looked at it, and said, "No, it's not an issue of wiring, it's an issue of the ductwork because it's a 90-degree angle and that doesn't work and it causes the air not to go out," which is not true. They gave a false diagnosis. The second company did not bother to open the metal casing outside the kitchen range hood. I don't know how they know what my ductwork looks like and if it's a ductwork issue because nobody bothered to open the lid and do a test. If you actually turn it on, you can even hear it on the vent that's on the exterior of the house. It is vented to the outside, but nobody bothered to open and test it. They just looked at it and diagnosed from the outside.

They claimed that it was a ductwork issue, and ductwork in the policy and my agreement states that it is covered. However, they said that ductwork for kitchen ranges specifically is not covered. That was a waste of money on the service request, and a waste of my time taking time off work to let technicians in. Nothing was done besides opening the filters underneath, which I can do and that tells you nothing.

I tried talking to AHS, if they could escalate or talk to management. I tried everything and there was no help from them. They just wanted to quote it with a company to do ductwork repair when it wasn't even tested. That's a diagnosis I can't trust. The ductwork is up against the ceiling, not at the bottom where the filters are, and air doesn't go up. If you put a paper towel under my range when it's turned on, if it works properly, it should hold it in place. It should suck it up because it's pushing air outside of the house. My range pushes air inside the house as if you were turning on a hair dryer. That's not normal, and I don't think that's the ductwork either.

Something's not wired correctly, but AHS didn't investigate or send somebody else to open it or test it, even though I told them the previous technician didn't do any of that. They just diagnosed that it was bad ductwork by looking at it from the outside. They didn't look at the connection from the duct to the ceiling. They didn't test it or remove the range to see if it blows air that goes outside. They didn't do anything like that, so to me, it was very poorly diagnosed.

They also wouldn't take my request to send somebody to properly diagnose it. They just wanted to send a quote to pay for basically redoing all my ductwork in the ceiling. I would be responsible for covering the cost of all the drywall and all the stuff I need to redo in the ceiling for something that's not even diagnosed. I was like, "Thank you, but no thank you." I'm not gonna cover all that because that quote was gonna be for me to pay out of my pocket. I'm not about to spend thousands of dollars ripping out my ceiling, redoing ductwork, when I don't think that's even the issue. I need a real technician to come and diagnose it. But I'm selling the house and moving, so at this point, I don't care. I’ve been with AHS for over a year and as soon as I move out of this house, I'm canceling. They’ve been garbage.

I also called to have a bunch of electrical work done, which they told me would all be covered. Then, when I called again to place a service request, they told me, "Since it's multiple items and if you wanna put them in the same service request on the website, it won't let you do it, but give us a call and we'll do it over the phone for you." I called and specifically told them I have a certain amount of outlets that are not properly grounded and a number of ceiling fans that are not properly wired. They don't work from the wall switch. They only work from the remote. I explained everything, asked them if it would be covered, and they said yes. When I called the second time to schedule the service order, they told me it isn’t

I've been able to use AHS to come and service my AC. Complete Air Mechanical came recently and they were able to fix the issue. I had a claim with AHS to fix my fridge, but I've paid for two service requests for the same issue. Right now, I'm waiting for the fourth visit of a technician to come and try to switch the motherboard after they switched so many other parts, trying to fix the problem. I’m extremely dissatisfied because I'm paying $100 a month. There are so many things in the house that AHS won't cover, so I gotta go.

The bracket on one side of the dishwasher rack broke. Submitting a claim is easy. You just call American Home Shield. Sometimes it’s quick, and sometimes you’re on hold longer. It really depends on who you get.

Most of the time it’s fine, but sometimes it’s hard to understand the person you’re speaking with. The calls are routed to the Philippines, and a few people have heavy accents. Overall, though, it usually works out.

The technicians came out the first time and replaced something, I’m not sure what, maybe a clip. Not long after, the rack dropped again, so we called them back. They said they would contact American Home Shield and get back to us, but no one did.

I called again and was told it wasn’t covered because it wasn’t normal wear and tear. I was upset and asked for a second opinion. They sent someone else out, and that technician made the repair with no issues. Everything is working now. It just took a long time to sort out and a lot of phone calls.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for at least 15 years. When they’re good, they’re very good, and they’ve saved us money on certain repairs over the years. The downside is that everything feels very cookie‑cutter. You always get transferred to the Philippines, and they read from a script. It feels like everyone says the exact same thing, and you have to sit there while they read the whole speech.

It’s hard to have a real conversation and explain what’s broken or what was repaired. Sometimes it feels like they don’t fully understand. I’ve had to ask for a supervisor on several occasions. There seems to be more complication because of the language barrier. When you’re trying to explain an issue, they just keep repeating the same script, and things get lost in translation. Even with that, overall, I’m still satisfied with them.

I have a pending garage door opener repair from the fall. American Home Shield sent someone out, but I’m in New Jersey and the contractor they sent was from Florida. He was traveling through the area and picking up work. He tried to sell me several hundred dollars’ worth of extra stuff, and something didn’t feel right.

I told him I’d get back to him and called a couple of local garage door companies. Both told me he was basically trying to rip me off. I called back and spent hours back and forth to get it sorted out. I had to go through a supervisor, and finally they told me I could hire an outside contractor.

They said they would only give me $100 toward the repair. That doesn’t make sense to me, because the service call fee alone is $135. I’m paying more than I’m getting back, even though it’s supposed to be a covered service. In that instance, I was not happy.

I would seriously discourage anyone from using American Home Shield because of what we’ve been through. And as long as we’ve been customers with them, and we’ve been with them for two homes, it’s been horrible. And if I can find another home company, then I am gonna switch.

When we were at our previous address, we had a problem with our stove, and they came and fixed it a couple of times. And now, we’ve had an issue with our refrigerator, and we've had five visits from different vendors. The freezer part of our refrigerator-freezer is not freezing. And the ice maker leaks because it’s not freezing. And when the technician from the fifth contractor came out and looked at it, he said the same thing. They said that LG refrigerators are badly made, and that they’re gonna have this problem forever.

And we also had the compressor replaced last year. And when a technician from Gary Appliance Repair came out two weeks before this last one, he claimed that he had fixed the problem. He found the leak and repaired it. He didn’t replace the compressor, but he repaired the leak and said that we shouldn’t have any more problems. And less than two weeks later, it wasn’t freezing again. It was leaking and doing the same thing.

So, we called American Home Shield, very upset, and told them that the same thing is happening. And this will be the fifth contractor that came out to fix it, so it’s not fixable. And they keep doing the same thing. And so, I threatened to cancel and to call my attorney, which I did. And they’re prepared to do whatever they need to do on our behalf to make sure we get a new refrigerator, because we’re paying for something that we’re not getting.

And so, we refused the service of the last contractor because he would do the same thing that the other contractor did. And he was doing the same thing the other guy had just done less than two weeks ago. And so, we said that we want another option. Because we’re not gonna continue to do this. We’re not gonna keep calling, and a technician is going to come out here and do the same thing, and then have the same problem. So, then the technician said he’s gonna go call his supervisor. And then he came back in the house and said that they agreed that we need a new refrigerator after all this time.

But none of the contractors were rude. It’s just that they either didn’t know what they were doing, or, as they said, that LG is just a bad refrigerator.

And the representative from American Home Shield sounds like they are reading from a script and not listening to what I was saying. And she barely speaks in English, so they didn’t really understand what I was saying, or they weren’t trying to listen. And I barely understood what they were saying. All she said was that they understood what we’re going through, and that they’re gonna send a repairman out to evaluate, which is the same thing they’ve been doing over and over again. So, I ended up hanging up on her because the language barrier was there.

I called American Home Shield because I was having an issue with my electrical and garbage disposal. I thought the electrician could handle both of those issues. But when I spoke with the representative, they told me that I need to have a plumber come out and take a look at the garbage disposal too. After the electrician got here, he said he could have checked both. The plumber was here in probably less than five minutes. It turned out I just wasted $125 paying for service for the plumber and the electrician.

The electrician was friendly, but he charged me $125 for tracing the wire. That should have been covered under my warranty. He replaced the breaker in my breaker box that wasn’t working. Once we tested everything, there was still one socket in my master bedroom that wasn’t working. He said that was gonna be an additional $75 just to run power from one of the other sockets in the room to that socket to get that working. I ended up paying $225 that day.

I don’t even think the electrician got a chance to look at the ceiling fan in my grandson’s room. The light on it is dimming and the fan is still not working. He did tell me the warranty doesn’t cover outside fans. I was thinking, “What does my warranty do me any good for?” I don’t want them to charge me another $125 to get them out and take a look at the ceiling fan.

Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been okay. I’ve had good service for the most part. The only complaint I have is that, because we go with different companies every time, if I’m having a similar situation, they approach things quite differently. I’ve had a few problems with the breakers over the years and continue to have the same problems. It’s very confusing to me if my home is under code. I’m worried that I might be receiving conflicting information on the codes and the status of my breakers depending on the contractor. I’ve had them come out and do several methods.

I hadn’t had any conflicting issues with the AC or the heat or anything like that. The breakers are what I’m really concerned about because it seems that the codes change. Depending on the contractor that comes out, their mindsets change. One might tell me I have a wrong breaker system to begin with, and the other will tell me it’s fine. I would prefer if we could stick with a company that has a philosophy that I could follow to maintain my house.

I had a plumbing issue recently where I reached out to American Home Shield. One time, I had a commode problem, and the same plumbing company came and fixed it. They're really wonderful people.

I would recommend people to go to American Home Shield. They said that if they can’t fix the appliance, they will get a new one. There was a time when I scheduled something with them. They scheduled me for a week later, and I told them I couldn’t wait for a week. The gentleman ended up finding me somebody immediately. The only thing I don't like is their prices went up. But from the service I’m getting, it’s okay.

The company that came out for my leaky sink did great. They just put Band-Aid on the problem, but I understand that since that’s all that was covered. I have no complaints with them. The plumber who came out for the clog in my bathtub also did a great job. But when I went to do laundry, I heard bubbling in my toilet. It was as it was loading the washer up, before the rinse cycle. The water came up through my bathtub. It was just bubbling up again, but it was draining back out. I had them come out again since there was still an issue.

The plumber came back, looked at it, and said that he had to take a camera through here. He told me that’s not covered since that’s a special thing. But that’s how you diagnose the problem. Why is that not covered? I was under the impression that it’s covered. I wasn’t willing to pay for that. The plumber also gave me some more information, telling me about how other companies offers this compared to American Home Shield. He mentioned that they don’t do extended water lines from outside. They only do what’s underneath or what’s inside the house. What if something happens from the street to my house? They're going to say that’s preexisting since my house was built in 1963.

It turned out that I got misled when I signed up. I purchased the highest plan American Home Shield offered. They said the diagnostic is covered. After thinking about it for some time, I decided to cancel. I also heard from other people who had American Home Shield for 10 or 20 years. They said they didn’t cover their issue. When I’m with somebody that long, I expect them to take care of me.

I went through the runaround to be canceled. It’s a lot easier to sign up than it is to cancel. I had to be on the line three times with three different people. I had to repeat myself three times to explain why I wanna cancel. That was a pain in the butt. But the customer service people were understanding and patient.

It is still doing it now. When he got here, the furnace wasn't running. He put a new thermostat on. But the pinging and banging were still there. Other than that, the service has been good. I have been with American Home Shield for about 10 years. I had a problem with my AC years ago. They tried to tell me it was a part that was not on my AC. They could not fix it. They sent more techs out and I got the same response from the techs on my side that the piece does not need to be there in order for the AC to work because that's not what the problem was.

It took me 15 times of calling, not getting the answer, and it went on about a month and a half. It wasn't until I went to Twitter and tagged American Home Shield on Twitter that I got my problem solved from somebody higher than the person who was giving me to run around on the phone. I had to put them on blast on social media and then people contacted me right away and fixed my issues.

For my recent claim, the D & J guy was perfect. I talked to the gentleman on the phone. They were very professional, came in, did the job in a timely manner, left no mess, and I would highly recommend them.

I haven't had an issue with American Home Shield, for the most part, other than that one time with that part on my air conditioner. They come out and they do everything like they're supposed to do and we've been good.

I’m 14 years in with American Home Shield and I appreciate that they bring professional service people to do the job each time. The people that they've sent to help me have been good, prompt and professional and got the job done.

My washer, dryer, and my dishwasher issues happened at once. And they got it done. I was afraid the parts would take a while, but the parts came in. And within a week, they had everything working again. Hornet worked on one of them.

AHS’s fees used to be a lot cheaper and I know prices have gone up. But it still saves me money. I've gone to the website a couple of times to book a repair. And it was good. I was able to navigate and get to verify that I am going to the services covered. Sometimes I have a question, so I call instead of booking a repair online.

When I go online to get a request service, sometimes it doesn't always work. It says I have to renew my policy, but my policy has been renewed. I don't know why it doesn't get updated.

Go ahead and get a policy, get it started. Just watch the pricing because it can go up unannounced, and that's what happened to one of my properties that went from 89 to 139. So I canceled that and kept one that was still at 89. They did offer me a lower price. But they couldn't compare with their competition. Choice all those guys were always towards down around, less than $100 annual. But then the service fee was $69 rather than $100. So all in all, they just wouldn't even come to that point.

It's just I don't know if he was just overwhelmed with other customers or what, but that was the longest period we had with a dishwasher. Because he would order a part, and then turn around and say it was something else, a whole lot of back and forth. But it did eventually get fixed.

Paid for AHS each month for one year. When I needed service due to a plumbing issue, they quickly opened a service ticket and withdrew $125 from my bank account. Over a week later, still no response to fix my plumbing issue. AHS had a dozen “by the manual” reasons/responses as to why I hadn’t received service. They take your money instantly but only reimburse customers after a 10-day waiting period. I canceled my service plan which I paid over $1400 for the year without using. Buyer beware. They provide a service for a fee, but when they don’t respond or fix the issue, they reimburse you on a prorated amount. I see it more like stealing your money on a promise, than doing what they can to keep as much of your money without providing a service, and attempt to retain the money they took from you.

American Home Shield is an expense every month, but it's worth it. We’ve had AHS for two to three years. What I like about it is the security of knowing that if my refrigerator breaks down, I can file a claim and get it taken care of, and I don't have to fork out all that money for it. I've had one to two claims a year on average.

But I’ve seen some limits in my contract. We thought we had a clog in the toilet, but Gray Cap Plumbing came out and said they couldn’t do anything. They listened to everything that we had to say about what was going on, and they said the toilet had to be removed. But because of the way my contract is with American Home Shield, it would not be covered.

My son removed the toilet. I then called a local plumber to snake it, and he did it more than five times. It went all the way through, but we’re still having a backup. He said the drywall in the basement will need to be removed to see what the problem with the plumbing is.

He’s telling me that it’s gonna cost $4,000 to $7,000 to go in. I don’t know if it’s gonna be covered. That's very stressful, a week before Christmas. I wish the contract were more lucrative in that respect.

My experience submitting claims has been very good, and they take care of my problem. It was a process with the hot water heater, but they ended up replacing it. They also replaced the refrigerator.

I had a plumbing issue. First, it was just a little leak in the faucet, and then it became a big leak when I noticed the bill, so I called it in. They came and changed out the faucets in the tub. We also discovered that one of the faucets outside was not hooked up anymore and I was not getting any water. They noticed that, too, so since they were there, they checked that for me.

The first guy who came out couldn’t stop the leak, so he said he would report it to his supervisor. Two or three hours later, another guy called, came over and did the repair, and they were very good. They had to get a part, but they completed the job the same day.

AHS has a problem with checking the quality of their vendors. On two occasions, they attempted to send over contractors that have bad reputation and very bad customer service. I know that because we checked their reputations. Our friends had also been exposed to these particular companies. Before they came out, I asked AHS to change the contractor, but they really tried to resist. It was really tough to get them to cancel the contractor and give me another one.

I didn’t even ask for people that I preferred. I just wanted another company on the vendor list. They fought me tooth and nail to do that until I got high enough in the ranks. I had to escalate and ended up three or four levels above the person who deals with the everyday stuff before someone was willing to do it. All the levels below claimed wrongly that that was impossible, that they couldn’t possibly change the vendor.

Recently, I had a problem where the water heater caught fire, and that was replaced. The vendors that I did end up getting were very good. Generally, we’ve been happy. The coverage is very good. I have no complaints about AHS or the vendors that came out, only that they attempted to send bad vendors to my house. I blocked that, but that was very, very hard to do.

I submitted the claim for American Home Shield online. It was actually really confusing because I couldn't find a word to request the service. I wasn't sure if it was “request service” or “make a ticket” because there's also a service to get your unit serviced, just like a routine, like a tune-up, which I just did.

The response time is pretty decent. But the customer service representatives weren't very friendly when I had to deal with them. They wouldn't listen, and they're pretty much like, “Okay, this is what you get. I don't care”.

My heater didn't wanna turn on, but only in the middle of the day. It turned out that a gas valve had to be replaced.

The contractor was wonderful. I got a call and was told that they'll be out this day and time, and that I just have to make sure somebody was there to let them in and do their job. I wasn't there initially. The person who did everything knocked on the door, and my sister-in-law let him in.

He probably figured out the heater didn't wanna turn on. So I'm assuming he went on the roof to see what was going on and saw that the valve was sticking. He said he was gonna run up to a supervisor and that they would give me a call whether the unit had to be fixed or replaced.

The next day, it worked perfectly. It responds when I turn on the heater, and it turns off when I want a lower temperature or a higher temperature.

I don't usually use it very often, just once or twice. So it's really hard to justify the yearly contract price of $600. And now that my service fee is $100, it's a little inconvenient.

I am in a rural area, and not a lot of people who own businesses here accept other insurance. For example, JW Heating & Air doesn't do a whole lot of other contracts. It's either cash or American Home Shield and one other insurance.

    Reviewed Dec. 23, 2024

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was a drain plumbing incident. All the ones before that were quite a bit of a struggle. But this particular claim went fine. I had a situation before, which was more difficult than this one.

I essentially put in a claim for a door lock change, which I had done before. I was doing it this time because I had swapped out the nanny. So I wanted to get the locks changed after that. And so, put in the request.

I checked back on it after a couple of weeks because I had forgotten about it, and I noticed it was canceled. So, I put it in again. It took a while for them to assign it. But they finally assigned it to somebody, and that person came out. I explained to him what I was looking to get done.

He said my policy doesn't cover that. And I said it does because I'm getting the exact same thing I had before. And then the guy left.

When I called to tell them that the guy they sent out said something about the coverage, they were telling me that I had sufficient coverage, and that maybe he just didn't know. They were supposed to call them.

They said they have to put in a ticket for them to see what they think the diagnosis was. And I was like, “It's not really a diagnosis. These are just lock changes. Is the amount of doors and locks covered or not?” And so, they said we still have to give them 24 hours to respond.

24 hours went by, and the contractor didn't respond. I called them, and they said we have to give them another 24 hours to respond. And that continued for a while until I asked for a supervisor.

Essentially, they're like “We have to get the diagnosis before we can move the claim for it”. And I'm like, “Can you just assign it to a different person at this point? Because it's not a diagnosis. The guy never touched anything. He didn't come into the house.

I was in my garage when I told him what I wanted. And he said it wasn't covered. We went back and forth. And he left my property. I don't even know if he took any notes. I was like, “I don't know what you guys are looking to get to do.”

It's critical thinking, like they should listen to what I'm telling them from a customer perspective.

At this point, it feels like they were giving the contractor more space to respond when they never even did anything.

They could have just gotten me moved to a new one and ensured that that person understood what was covered and came out on time.

The contractor actually never responded to them. I get it from their point of view. But you would think that they would have some type of contract that says,”If we reach out to you for you to stay in our network, you have SLAs to respond”. But that never happened.

Eventually, they just said they’re gonna cancel it, refund my deductible, and then I can put in a claim, start all over, and get reassigned to a different person. And I asked if it was possible that I would get reassigned to the same person? And they said it’s possible.

So, I just went ahead and did something different for myself, but I never actually trusted that they were gonna ensure that the claim was assigned to a contractor who was gonna come out.

The first time I put it in the claim, they didn't tell me they canceled it, because they didn't have anybody in network to do the work. It seems like they had a pretty weak network. They could have told me to go ahead, do this, and then they'll reimburse me this amount.

But their customer service was just terrible. However, this last claim was pretty straightforward. It was a drain leaking claim. They can work with the diagnosis, and they apparently got it assigned to someone.

The person came out within three days and fixed it within two hours of being here. It was super simple. But that other situation literally drained me. It just seems like there should be more focus on understanding what they're dealing with.

I know these are call centers and scripts. But there has to be at least one person on the team empowered to say, “I think this might need to go a different path and we might need to try something different 'cause this doesn't make sense.”

I went online and initiated the claim through the American Home Shield’s website. I thought the process was fine and relatively easy. The furnace was not starting. I received the email of the contractor that they had notified. That was the closest place that dealt with American Home Shield.

I submitted the claim on Saturday or Friday. And then I received a call on a Monday morning, and Superior Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. came right out. I think they were professional, as they got right to the issue.

They didn't necessarily share what they were doing to fix it. But they got the furnace running. They had to order two parts to be replaced. They came back the next day and replaced it. And it seems to be fine now.

I think that the quickness with which they've done the work, and in prioritizing the person were the best, at least on the two calls that I've had. So if you’re thinking about getting coverage for whatever reason, I would definitely recommend them.

We’ve used American Home Shield before, they replaced our air conditioner this summer and did a fantastic job. We were a little frustrated because it felt like we were getting nickel-and-dimed and had to pay more than we expected, but the technicians were great. They came out quickly and got everything resolved fast. It was probably the best one we ever had.

The other one was the washer, and it turned into a nightmare, we were without it for almost six weeks. The first time, the technician spent maybe 10 seconds on it, pushed a couple of buttons, saw some lights, and said the pump and housing were the issue. They sent the parts by Monday, but it took another two weeks for someone to come back.

The technician came back, installed the pump and housing, and I turned it on. It spun but started making a loud grinding noise. I caught him before he left, and he restarted it, it did the same thing. He said it needed another part and that someone would have to come back to do a diagnostic.

Two weeks later, the original technician came back, did a diagnostic, and said the motor was bad, they needed to replace the magneto and the motor. It took another two weeks to get the parts installed. Once everything was done, it worked great, but we were without the washer for almost seven weeks.

It was Sears, and AE as well, both of them came out. When they were here, they fixed it, but I must have called Sears at least 20 times that month trying to get someone out sooner. They kept saying there were no earlier appointments, and finally, we were told not to call again.

I called American Home Shield and they said we had to go with Sears and other contractors. They said they couldn’t send anyone else out, which I understood, but they kept changing appointments. One time, they were supposed to come on a Monday and called 15 minutes beforehand to reschedule. I had taken the day off, but no one showed up.

Like I said, they did a fantastic job this summer fixing our air conditioner. We were really impressed with the technicians. The issue wasn’t the quality of their work, it was getting them to come out. The first visit was Sears, and the second was AE Factory.

I want to be clear. It was not American Home Shield. It was Sears. The technician even told me they only have three appliance techs in town, and all three were at our house at one point or another.

The warranty was fantastic. They’ve got a maximum payout now, we still pay around $30 a month, and the max is about $1,300. But for our furnace or this summer’s air conditioner, that didn’t apply. We paid around $3,000, and they covered about $2,800, which was a little frustrating. Still, they came out and did a great job.

Their website is worthless. I work in this industry and can tell them it’s designed that way on purpose, they don’t want them handling things online. They want someone to call so they can control scheduling and limit follow-ups. For our furnace and air conditioner, they came out quickly, which was good because my wife has Sjogren’s. But this experience was ridiculous and left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I went two months without a working refrigerator. But once they deemed it unrepairable, they covered the cost, and everything has been fine since.

I've had American Home Shield for at least two years. Recently, I had a repairman sent out three to four times for the ice maker of the refrigerator. They tried replacing part of the ice maker, then the whole ice maker, and then the motherbaord of the fridge when it quit working. I was without a refrigerator for two and a half months and was using an ice chest. I finally tried to get them to replace the refrigerator, but they said they had to wait for the motherboard to arrive before they could do anything else.

When the motherboard was put in and it still wasn't working, then American Home Shield decided to do a replacement. But they only offered around $900, which wasn't enough to purchase the same kind of fridge I had that broke. That really ticked me off. But they ended up sending me $900 and I bought a new refrigerator that cost me $3,000. I found the whole warranty with them a rip-off. I cannot fault the technician at all. He did everything AHS would allow him to do, but his hands were tied.

I would recommend others who have AHS to demand they replace any issue right off the bat. If they repair it, they will end up losing money in the long run.

I do have a problem with American Home Shield as far as the money’s going. I pay 80 some dollars for it a month, and then when they send someone out, it’s $100. In essence, I could have had somebody just come out and maybe it would have cost me $200. But every month, I’m paying $80, so I really question myself, “Am I right or wrong?” So 80 times 12 is a lot of money, plus then $100 for each time you call them.

They did come out for my stove and dryer. For the dryer, I had a problem with the person who came out. They had to come out two or three times and I was a little concerned about that. But they did a good job and knock on wood, I have no problem right now.

Half the house lost power. Two breakers blew, the main and the next 220. Jet Electric came out, opened the panel, and said the entire box had to be replaced. They told me I needed a city permit, but it took them two days just to show up.

I went to the City of Hanford myself. They said once the permit was submitted, they’d sign it immediately because the box was already off and we had no electricity. Edison came out and did something called “booted the meter.”

We were without power for about two and a half weeks. During that time, Jet Electric submitted the paperwork to the wrong place. I called Edison, got the correct email, and had Jet Electric resend it. Even then, they submitted it as a remodel instead of a blown‑out box, so the paperwork got lost in the shuffle.

I finally contacted Edison myself and got them out here the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They disconnected the weather thingy on top of the house. While that was happening, I called Stan Vierra Electric, a local company. They came out, took a closer look, and said I didn’t need the whole box replaced, just the guts, the bus bar and breakers.

Jet Electric was going to charge $5,800 for the box and $900 for the permit. Stan Vierra said, and Edison confirmed, that replacing the guts didn’t require a permit. By that point, we’d already been without power for two and a half weeks, and the City of Hanford never even received any permit paperwork from Jet Electric.

I have a sister who’s 75 and needs electricity. We were juggling generators and everything else. We don’t have family to stay with, we’re on fixed incomes, and we can’t afford hotel rooms.

I called Jet Electric every day for two and a half weeks. Eventually, the woman I spoke with got short with me and said we weren’t their only customers. They’re based out of Madera, even though we have local electrical companies right here. Not only did they not know how to handle the paperwork, they were also going to do far more work than was actually needed.

Stan Vierra Electric came out that same day, and at the same time, the Edison technician was on the phone with me. By then, they realized how long we had been without power. We had no electricity at all, no lights, no heat, nothing.

American Home Shield needs to use contractors from the local area. They keep sending people from Bakersfield and other places, and nobody local will work with them. I don’t believe American Home Shield or Jet Electric was telling me the truth when I called. It was always, “Your status is urgent,” but nothing was actually urgent. Even after Jet Electric came out on Friday, nothing moved.

Another issue I had was back in July when our AC went out. It was about 115 degrees, and it took a full month to get it repaired. The hottest month of the year, and we had no air conditioning. First they said they had the wrong part, the blower motor. Then they had to go back to American Home Shield because it needed a special blower motor.

American Home Shield sent the motor, but it was the wrong one. The correct part was available locally in Visalia, and Immediate Air Conditioning Service could have picked it up, but they weren’t allowed to without approval. That delay is what made it take a month.

I’m about to cancel the home warranty. They also raised the rate without telling anyone. It went up about $50 a month. I’m paying $187 now, and I can’t afford that.

Our upstairs AC went out in March, and American Home Shield sent MJS Mechanical. The technician came out and said he would come back. We needed to know whether it could be fixed or if it had to be replaced, because replacement would mean code changes and out‑of‑pocket costs. He kept saying it could be fixed. He gave my husband his cell number and said he’d be back to do the work.

He never came back. He kept stalling. We called the office every week, and they kept saying they’d call us back. This went on for weeks. Then in August, I got an email saying the repairs were complete. I called American Home Shield and told them nothing had been completed and we were still waiting for the technician to return.

The representative told me, “They told us it was done in August.” I said, “I know that’s what they told you, but it’s not done.” The technician had taken the air‑conditioning unit apart and left all the parts outside in a big pile on my patio. At one point, my husband covered it with a blue tarp so the parts wouldn’t blow away during a hurricane.

Then American Home Shield sent Siever. The technician who came out was very nice. He explained that because the previous contractor had already taken everything apart, Home Shield’s guidelines didn’t allow him to step in or do any work since another contractor had already started the job.

Siever really helped us. They contacted the area representative for American Home Shield, the person who oversees the vendors and makes sure they’re compliant and licensed. The owner of the second company called me and said they were reaching out to that representative. They wanted him to review the photos we took and then go back and speak with the first vendor, because that situation should never have happened. If a contractor is going to work for American Home Shield, they shouldn’t be leaving a homeowner in that condition.

After that, everything moved forward. It took a week or two, but the American Home Shield representative went to both companies’ offices and talked to everyone, including the second technician. The owner of the first vendor, MJS, called me, apologized, and said they were coming out to replace the unit at no cost to me. They did exactly that. They installed a brand‑new air‑conditioning unit, and I didn’t pay anything.

They handled whatever repairs were needed to bring it up to code since the house is older. When we replaced a unit before, we had to pay a good chunk of it, but this time we didn’t pay anything. He took care of all of it.

In the end, I’m satisfied. But it was a miserable experience to get there. If someone had been living upstairs, it would’ve been impossible. We wouldn’t have been able to function. Our bedroom is downstairs, and we lived mostly downstairs during that time, so we managed.

I was frustrated because when I called in, I couldn’t get any real help. There was no real person to talk to. It was a call center in a foreign country, and they kept saying things like, “This is the escalation team,” but it was just happy talk. Nothing was actually getting fixed.

People would call me every day to check in, but nothing was moving. They weren’t even calling the vendors like they said they would, which shocked me, because the vendors told me nobody from Home Shield had contacted them.

Years ago, when we first started, I could talk to someone who spoke English and actually helped. Now it’s just a call center, and they can’t do anything. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. All they knew how to do was cancel one request and send another company. It took forever, March to November, almost three‑quarters of a year.

I could have just called someone else and paid for it, but that would have voided my coverage with Home Shield. If I called a contractor on my own, Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. I don’t know how to fix that, but they need more local, US‑based people who can actually help, because it was miserable. Calling them felt like calling into a black hole. It’s sad, because it’s going to cost them members. A lot of people will cancel, and my husband even thought about canceling.

In the end, the first vendor was the one who paid for it and gave us the free unit. But the second vendor is the one who got the local rep involved. With Home Shield using a foreign call center, there’s nobody who can really do anything when you have a problem like we did. If I could have talked to someone in the US during all of that, it would have gotten solved.

Home Shield sent me a survey, but I couldn’t even complete it. It was too complicated, and what happened didn’t fit their questions. I just deleted it. The survey didn’t match my situation. I want to thank the local rep in Houston, because he went back and talked to MJS, the first contractor, and that’s how it got resolved.

Our hot water tank wasn’t working. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online as I usually do. Their website’s easy enough to file a claim. It was really easy to log in and go down through. You could be very specific in what you needed and what you were having issues with. And then within an hour or so, you’d get a text message and/or an email letting you know who your repair person would be with their contact information, and that we would be getting a phone call to set up an appointment within 24 hours.

The interaction with the plumbing company started out really well. The plumber they sent out was very personable. The problem was when he replaced the heating elements, it still didn’t work and we still had no hot water. We were told that they’d have to replace the hot water tank, and it ended up being 20 days before we got the new one.

The plumbing company said that they were waiting on approval from American Home Shield. When I called and I finally got ahold of somebody in American Home Shield, they said that there was going to be an additional charge which we had never even been notified about that that was the hold-up. So there seems to be a lack of communication between the plumbing company and AHS, and then getting everything done correctly.

Evidently, there was a problem with the wiring for the new hot water tank, so I ended up calling a local electrician that we knew here. So between the additional charges for the hot water tank that American Home Shield didn’t cover and the electrician, we’re out about 800 and some dollars.

We’ve had American Home Shield for years. We got it just because my sister had had some issues. She lived at the beaches and said that a home warranty company could really save us a lot of money. In the past, when we’ve had to use them, there were delays in getting things fixed, but it has saved us a lot of money.

But lately, I’m not happy. It started out in the beginning for $50. And then if they couldn’t repair, it would get replaced. And then it went to $75, and now it’s $100. I get it though. Cost of living and everything else is going up, but it’s like I’ve never had to shell out this kind of money before. They’ve done the garage door opener, a fan motor replaced. our dryers, washers and refrigerator. But this time, that’s was a large chunk of money for people on Social Security. My husband’s a cancer patient and I have cardiac issues.

They could improve on the timing in getting repairs done. I know that they’re working with different contractors, but it shouldn’t take three weeks to replace the hot water tank. If I’d had the money, I could have went to Home Depot, bought one, and had it installed within 48 to 72 hours. Also, I shouldn’t have to continually be calling to follow up. So they could also improve on the communication between their customers and the suppliers.

It would go into the auxiliary like emergency heat. I filed the claim online and it was easy because you click the buttons. The technicians from Air Max were nice, professional and did a good job.

I had a claim for my furnace. The initial vendor never showed up, so it was escalated and another company came out and said it was fixed. That Wednesday, my furnace went out again, so I called American Home Shield again. They sent somebody out, and he had to order a motherboard. So far so good.

Communications could be improved. The pricing can be improved. And how they try to hold on to me to stay with them, I got them. When I called about my heat, it went out on Friday or Saturday night. I called on Sunday morning. They assigned a ticket to a vendor who did not call back, and we were experiencing temperatures below freezing. I have an elderly person and an infant, and it’s cold. I called them on Sunday, and the rep said they didn’t have anything before the 5th. I told her that it didn't work for me. They escalated the ticket, and again, they came out the same day, did whatever. It was working up until Wednesday.

I then found out during the call that on Sunday, the technician fee kept going up. When I started out, it was $75. The last call I made, it was $100. This time, it was $125. So I’m like, what’s going on, why the price keeps going up. He was like, Oh, you can't cancel your contract. You got a 60-day window and 30 days after the renewal date. 60 days before cancellation or 30 days after the renewal date, which I was unaware of.

I don't really like them. But they were the only gig in town. And I really don't use them a whole lot. What I do like is when I call, they will send somebody out. What I don’t like is that the service fee is creeping up every month. I barely use it, so when I do call, they do come out.

I have had American Home Shield for about 20 years. I need the coverage, as I see something break down. I like the fact that they do the job, in the services they provide. I was having some issues out front and they sent some people out and resolved that issue.

Well, the toilet is still stopped up. I gotta keep plugging the toilet and filling up the tank. That's still going on now. And then I asked my daughter to make a claim at American Home Shield because I didn't know if I had their services. She paid for it.

A technician from Rod Plumbing LLC came out. All he did was we plunged it a little bit. I had one of those arms that you can route in there, and I was rotating the thing and trying to get in. He was showing me how to use it.

And I told him it was already going down, so I really didn't have any issue with it because it was going down slowly. He just told me to use and press both buttons on the top of the sink, and on top of the toilet. That's the only way I can do it.

I had a high flow point at that time. Now, I have a regular, standard point. When flushing, he said the water pressure is low. I said that it just fills up to the capacity of the bowl. And he said that I gotta have a courtesy flush.

And that was the issue. But I kept plunging. I had to add more water to it, and then that was it. He got paid. Flushing four times, but it's still slowing, except to suck the waist down. It rolls and moves slowly.

I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. You better get the program because you never know what might happen, emergency.

The water heater was leaking water so I called American Home Shield and it was easy to file the claim. iPlumb called me and I also received text messages. The technician was professional and polite. He replaced the water heater. They had to come back out because something had to be adjusted. But everything's good.

I had a hard time finding my policy. I couldn't find the phone number for AHS. I had to go way back in my email. Other than that, it was easy to get in touch with customer service. And usually, it's straightforward. The representatives seemed knowledgeable.

It's been more than one month since the technician from Furnace Doctors came out. He didn't do the work. It's terrible. He has been there once and then there has been no news according to the tenant.

I called them the second time and they've been there, they told me something needs to be replaced, need to call the American Home Shield for approval. And then nothing happens. I call every day and they said somebody will call me back. These things have been done for a week. I have been chasing them now.

The people who answer the call are very polite. But apparently, they do not have enough power to do anything. Customer service is good but the problem is no action. The price is fair but the one for my home automatically increases the cost, but there is no reason. I didn't receive anything.

The dryer was not drying our clothes, but was still working. There was something wrong with the heating element. 45 days before Sears’ last visit, they so-called fixed it, then it broke again. I had to pay another service fee for the same problem 45 days later, and I wasn't happy with that. I also asked for a different service because I didn't want the same guy to come out. Usually, technicians come fix the problem the first time they come around, but not this last time.

It's been decent with American Home Shield, except that I was a little upset with the last time that they charged me again when it was the same problem just 15 days after the 30-day period. That didn't seem fair for somebody who's been with them for so many years. It also seems like they raised the prices and the deductible quite a bit within the last year, which made me think of looking for something else, especially after what happened.\

It was the same guy who came before when I had a problem with the toilet. He replaced the pressure valve, and so far, everything’s good. The flapper had some piece of paper caught on it. It was something I could have done myself if I'd have known that. I’m going on three years with AHS. If something goes wrong, I've got a way to get it fixed and not have to pay the whole amount. With all the issues I've had, they've come through. I also got a new stove.

Sometimes it can take some extra days to get people out here, but most of the time, their process is smooth and the people generally come out when they say they're going to. We’ve had home warranty programs over the years and they pay for themselves almost every year. AHS went up quite a bit on their price in our last plan, so I wasn't super happy about that. But that's just the way it is. I wish they covered more but for the most part, they cover quite a bit.

The only issue I have is that there are some things that aren’t options when submitting a claim. My issue was plumbing, but it started with a sewer smell. It ended up being a water leak under the house, so I had no visible leaks. Metropolitan came out because of a connection issue in the heating system. They checked it, repaired it, and changed the filter. About a week or two later, something in the power system wasn’t fixed, which made the system unbalanced and noisy. I asked for a follow-up, and the same technician came back and fixed everything. They’re friendly, passionate, and do their job very well. No problem at all.

We’re happy with American Home Shield, but with the heating system, I paid $100 for an inspection. Someone came out, identified the problem, and then I had to pay another $100 for the actual repair. From my experience, I don’t really rely on the tune-up offers, it’s probably better to request a repair and have a technician come the first time.

When I first reached out, I called American Home Shield. After that, I used the website and the app to book follow-up visits and repairs. I will recommend American Home Shield. I haven’t had any major problems with my appliances or home, so I can’t say how they handle big issues. But for the smaller problems over the past two years, they’ve worked very well and covered us thoroughly.

We had two issues at the time, so I submitted a claim for both. One was the stovetop, one burner wasn’t heating properly. It would get hot enough to cook, but not enough to boil water in a reasonable time. The other issue was with the refrigerator. The freezer stopped working for a bit, or it wasn’t making ice.

The few times we’ve used contractors through American Home Shield, they’ve been fairly good and flexible. We couldn’t get that issue repaired because it wasn’t bad enough to replace yet, since it still gets hot. The fact that it takes 45 minutes to boil water apparently isn’t bad enough to be covered. That’s not on the contractor, that’s an American Home Shield issue.

The other one was the freezer. It had stopped working, like the blower got stuck. But it cleared up before they came out, the motor started working again, and the noise stopped, so I canceled that part of the service.

When we first had them, the costs were lower and more was covered. Over the years, coverage has gone down while costs have gone up, mainly because of rising expenses and reduced services.

As far as the service goes, it’s clear, cut and dry. It’s a home warranty company, and if someone is buying a house, they should definitely invest in one.

I worked with American Home Shield in 2020 when I had a line break, about a year after buying my house. They helped save a lot of money and got things taken care of.

I had my first policy for about a year, and I felt protected the entire time. Most recently, I signed up in September, and it took effect in October. It’s a new go-around, but I have peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, I pay the service call fee and someone comes out to take a look.

I found out about them when I bought my home, mostly from all the junk mail about home warranties. I chose them at first because of the cost, it was affordable as a single mom. After working with the contractors and saving on repair expenses, it made sense to go back and reopen my contract.

The most recent service call was for a leaking hot water tank, a sump pump, and maybe a leak at one of my sinks. I submitted the claim through the American Home Shield portal. I logged in and chose the option to file a claim. It said the claim had to be in the same category, so I included the sump pump, the water tank, and the sink leak.

I did get a text and an email saying a technician had been assigned. Before he arrived, I got a text that he was on route, and he even called to let me know he was about 40 minutes away.

The contractor was professional and knowledgeable. He had an assistant with him, and they explained the steps I needed to get the water heater replaced. He also said he’d look into the sump pump issue and get back to me since it needed to be replaced too.

What I like most is the fast response in getting an appointment scheduled. One thing that could be improved is having an option to provide details, like the model or serial number of a water tank, so they can check the warranty before coming out, especially for issues like a sump pump or water heater.

That way, I could’ve called ahead for the company to bring the water tank, and the technician could’ve installed it on the first visit. Some kind of system like that could minimize service calls and save time for both the homeowner and the contractor.

The website is easy to use. The only thing I’d improve is a way to provide more details about the equipment or appliances that need work. That way, if the manufacturer needs to send out a part, like a water tank. The technician can install it right away, reducing the steps to resolution.

The thermostats weren’t working correctly, and the AC kept blowing air. The thermostat is set to auto, so when the room reaches the set temperature, it should shut off. But if the fan is left on, it just keeps blowing air nonstop, no matter what the temperature is. I called American Home Shield, and they sent out a contractor.

The house is about 10 years old, and the system has never been touched. I’ve never had any problems before. There are two thermostats connected to one AC unit, and there’s a control box in the attic that decides which zone gets air, either upstairs or downstairs.

When the technicians came out, they said the control box wasn’t connected correctly, wasn’t installed properly, and was missing components. That didn’t make sense to me because the system has been working for 10 years. The builder installed it when we bought the house, and no one has ever touched it. I don’t understand how that could suddenly be the problem.

I told them it’s been working fine for 10 years. Their response was, “We can’t comment on what happened before we got here. We can only tell you what we see now.” That made no sense to me. Based on what they were saying, this system should have stopped working 10 years ago when it was first installed. I told the AC repair company, “I don’t think your technician knows what they’re talking about.”

They told me, “We don’t know. We can only tell you what the technician told us. We have pictures to prove it.” I said, “Okay, but that still doesn’t answer my question. Can you send someone else out?” And I never got an answer.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time. I did step away last year and tried another company, but then I came back to Home Shield. About five years ago, when I first signed up, before summer, we had an AC technician come out just to look things over and make sure everything was working. It was one of those complimentary checkups.

That technician never said anything about the control box being installed wrong. He cleaned the filter and told me everything was functioning A-OK and looked perfect. That was five years ago.

When I called American Home Shield for a second opinion, they told me it didn’t matter. Even though I signed up and paid on November 1st, my coverage didn’t start until December 1st. The issue happened on November 29th, so they said they couldn’t cover it. Anything that goes wrong after December 1st is when I can call and have it fixed.

The technician didn’t actually do anything, but the strange part is that the unit started working perfectly after he left. Before that, we had no heat. It just kept blowing cold air no matter what we set it to. Since that day, the heat comes on, shuts off when it reaches the set temperature, and there’s no air blowing once it hits that temperature. It’s working perfectly now.

I’ve recommended American Home Shield to a few family members. Overall, they’ve been really good. I was with them for several years, stepped away for a while, and then came back. The main issue is that the price goes up every year. I was with them for about four years before the monthly cost got too high. I came back because of a Black Friday deal that made the price reasonable again.

I also got American Home Shield for my mother‑in‑law, and my brother‑in‑law has it too. I returned not only because of the lower monthly rate, but also because I had Choice Warranty before and didn’t like them at all.

For the most part, American Home Shield’s vendors have been professional. They show up in company trucks and look legitimate. With Choice, it sometimes felt like the people they sent were just off the street, showing up in beat‑up cars with no identification. This is the first vendor I’ve had an issue with through American Home Shield. Overall, they’ve been pretty good.

American Home Shield has been very receptive every time we've made a claim. Surprisingly, they call within a day or less to set up an appointment, which is unusual for most services anywhere these days. We get service as quick as they can get it done and it's amazing that it happens so fast. They usually do it on our timeline that we need, as far as our work schedule is concerned. We had a damaged part in our dishwasher, and 95 Appliance Services came and we were able to get that fixed. The dishwasher is functioning fine.

The ice maker in our GE profile standup refrigerator had stopped working and we hadn't tested it in weeks. When the repair guy showed up, it was working and he gave me some ideas on how to avoid this in the future. There were problems with these models, and there were simple ways to fix them. I'll take care of that and the life of the machine goes on. There was also a problem with the LG washer not draining the fabric softener during a cycle. The tech cleaned out the fabric softener container and the jets. It was working for a minute, but it's not working right now. I don't know why, but I'm gonna take a look at it and follow what he said. If it's still not working, I'll call him back.

I've never had to call technicians back to get it fixed, so this would be the first time. This particular issue with the washer is not the first time it's happened. The first time, they were able to resolve it. Second time, maybe not. I don't think it's damage due to the washing machine itself. Somebody put powdered detergent in the wrong place and may have clogged things up again. I’m trying to figure that out, if that’s the issue or it's the function of the machine. We hadn't quite figured that out yet, but I will call the tech back and say, "Will you give me some advice, or see what you can do to come out and fix?" I'll do it after Christmas. All in all, AHS has done well for us. We’ve had good coordination, good experiences with the call center, and the online reporting of issues.

I've had American Home Shield for a good while. So far, all my experiences with them have been very good. Any time I've had a technician or plumber, everyone has been very cordial and nice. They’ve done exactly what they said they would.

My recent claim with my oven went very well. The guy showed me exactly what to do if my oven locked. He even made me do it two or three times to make sure. It’s worked fine since then.

However, the price just keeps going up every couple of years and it’s kind of a pain in the neck. If it gets a bit higher, I’m honestly going to have to find a new service.

Also, we had to call one time about our sump pump and the pipe outside that connects to it is not covered because it wasn’t part of the foundation.

By the following business day, I had gotten contact from American Home Shield and the company that they contracted with. It was wonderful. I knew the company because I've lived in Downriver my entire life. I was aware of that business before they came out the first time for my dryer.

We have been protected by American Home Shield since May. My husband and I are both getting older so why not have something to protect what we have? I like the convenience of the service and knowing that when I submit a claim, I'm gonna get responded to by the next business day. I've recommended this home warranty to others.

I told a lady at American Home Shield that my refrigerator quit working. I barely understood her. Each time I called the home warranty, I always got a foreigner. The contractor I was assigned to came late in the afternoon and stayed about 15 minutes. He investigated the refrigerator and said he needed a motherboard. He would contact American Home Shield. It went almost two months before we heard from him again. We contacted American Home Shield almost every week and we were told they were going to leave a message for the contractor. He never returned their messages either.

We used to have Sears Home Warranty but they went out of business, so we chose American Home Shield. We had the home warranty for about two months and my water well pump went out. It happened on a Friday. Monday was a holiday. I was told I couldn't get anybody out here until Tuesday. I said, "We're going without water. You're saying we're gonna have to wait till Tuesday?" They said, “Yes, sir. Nothing we can do about it.” I went and paid out of pocket to have my well fixed and told American Home Shield we won't be doing business with them anymore. But we had the warranty so we stuck with them for the rest of the year.

I liked what American Home Shield covered and it was a fair price. But whenever you need something fixed, they need to think like it's their house they need fixed and not somebody they've never seen. I went without water and I needed it. I couldn't flush the toilet and take a shower. I also needed my refrigerator fixed. All my stuff in it spoiled but American Home Shield didn’t care. It wasn't their groceries. We were very disgruntled with American Home Shield. We got the service to help defray appliance repairs we had to do on the house if it ever got to it. This won't be with American Home Shield in the future. I canceled service with them the other night.

I took the cash-in-lieu and went somewhere else to replace my furnace because I was not necessarily comfortable with Fast Response. I was also disappointed with American Home Shield in terms of the whole process and I have since canceled my service with them. I did it primarily because this has been the second incident where they said it’s not covered under the contract and there’s a lot of out-of-pocket expense. The cash-in-lieu was not even what I expected in terms of replacement costs.

It surely didn’t help when NBC on the national news did a story on American Home Shield and how the customer’s situation was similar to ours. You don’t get a chance to read the contract before you make a purchase of the agreement and then you get into these situations and they say, “Read the contract.” So it’s very difficult.

I was with AHS for a number of years and the price I got, initially, was very competitive. Over time, it just astronautically went up. If I was to go back to them maybe in two or three months, probably I’d get the same service level at a much lower price. But in terms of customer service, I didn’t have any issues.

I've been with American Home Shield since I bought this house over 20 years ago. I've had some good situations and some bad ones. It's always good to have that protection if you need it. I've had an entire heating system and an entire air conditioning system put in over the years. But it was a process going through the situation. They didn't wanna fix this. It wasn't American Home Shield. It was the contractors that they were using.

For instance, American Home Shield sent out one company that they had and they downplayed everything. I had another company come out behind them and I got a whole unit. It was basically just lazy technicians not doing their job. They came within 20 minutes here and then they were gone. They did not want to replace the unit and just wanted to repair the old unit. They put new parts on the old unit and it would make something else go bad.

There was also a time that I had service done on my garage door opener. I was told that certain things weren't covered and I was gonna be sent a copy of my policy. I called twice about it. The person I talked to was a foreigner and I didn't like his attitude. He kept saying, "Well, we can send it to you." That was months ago. I haven’t gotten in the mail the copy of what I'm covered on my policy. What was really upsetting was that the rep could have told me that certain things were not going to be covered before I decided to have somebody come out here.

But then they fixed everything that was part of our warranty, and it was a good experience.

The dishwasher wasn’t working, and Sears has come out about four or five times. The sprayer arm wasn’t working, and even after they replaced parts, it still wasn’t spraying sufficient water, so the dishes were coming out wet, not washed. Sears kept saying that there's not enough water pressure. So after Sears replaced the water walls and the sprayer. They said, There's not enough water pressure, so I need to call a plumber. Then the plumber came and said, There's nothing wrong with my water pressure. I'll have to call the dishwasher service again. Then the technician didn't even bother showing up.

With Sears, we’ve had quite a few bad experiences. The first time, they didn’t even show up and closed the ticket. I immediately complained, saying it was a no-show. I guess to be fair, it’s been difficult with Sears and these major issues, it’s been a pain, but on minor issues, we’ve had very little problems with American Home Shield. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2000, and my recent experience wasn’t that great. We called them out, and the guy said he knew what was wrong. We explained the issue with our water, and he said they’ll fix it. But once he started, he said he couldn’t and that we needed a part for our Rheem water heater. He told us to get the part, and then he’d install it.

So I called him back and asked what that meant. He said I’d have to order it myself. We’ve been with American Home Shield since we bought our house, over 24 years and nobody ever told us we had to do that. Because of that, we don't have hot water for a week. I explained I had dialysis and a one-year-old grandson, and we couldn’t go without hot water.

He came back that Monday or Tuesday and asked if I got the part. I told him, we don’t. So he checked the water heater, then called and ordered the part himself. I asked him why he didn't do that the first time.

We’ve never ordered a part before. Normally, whoever fixes it orders the part or calls American Home Shield, and then installs it when it arrives. That delay made it last a little longer, but sure enough, I ended up with an infection behind it. He ordered the part, and it took four or five days to arrive. The following week, he came back and installed it.

I’m dealing with something similar right now. My dryer acted up, so they sent a guy out who said it was the electric. Then they sent an electrician, who came yesterday, fixed the wall plug, and showed me what he was doing. He even went to Lowes, got the part, replaced it, but the dryer still isn’t heating.

I called American Home Shield this morning. They said they’d follow up with the service pro who came out for the dryer. He said it was an electrical issue and fixed his part, but the dryer still isn’t working. I’m waiting for them to call back, but if they don’t in the next hour, I’ll call them myself. I don’t want to be dealing with this after Christmas.

I was really dissatisfied because it could’ve been fixed quickly. All he had to do was see what was wrong, order the part, and they could’ve installed it right away. We’ve got the Platinum package, so it’s expensive. We’ve never had this kind of problem before.

The compressor went out on my mini split. I called in and reported the problem on the phone, and it was very easy to get through to a representative the first time. AHS sent out three contractors that couldn't touch the unit before they got to Air Design. I was then told it was going to cost $1,895 on my part to replace the unit. I finally had to settle with American Home Shield for 1,300 something dollars for the buyout option, and I had a brand new unit put in for less than that.

I thought that because we're older and both retired, that this is something we could have so that if we have a major breakdown, we don't have to spend a bunch of money. But they installed the unit that failed and then they want me to pay $1,895 for something that they installed. And everybody I talked to, except for the very last person I talked to, lied to me. They told me they'd call me back because I had to speak to supervisors several different times and they would never call me back. I always had to call them back and get on the phone and wait. This was the worst experience I've ever had with anything in my life. That's the reason I cancelled the policy. I'm still very dissatisfied and I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

I’m not enjoying American Home Shield right now. When I first got the service, it was fine for the price, but now they keep sending contractors who are constantly doing rework. This has been going on for the past few years. I usually request the service online, and it’s user-friendly. It works well.

The contractors I used to enjoy having in my home have ended their contracts with American Home Shield, apparently because of payment or pricing issues. I’m still using some of them, but now I have to pay out of pocket.

At this point, with the service I’m getting, my dryer has been down. I submitted a service request on November 25th. Fixing a dryer, especially for a company that handles dryers, refrigerators, and washing machines should be basic. It was a simple issue getting the dryer to heat and blow properly.

It’s now the 19th, and my dryer still isn’t working. I had a professional come out to clean the air vents, but it made no difference. The contractors have already come out twice, and they’re scheduled to return on the 23rd. According to the technician, they didn’t tighten the wheel or barrel in the dryer, which is why it sounds like a lawnmower. I’m not happy with the level of service these contractors have been providing.

With the contractors, I try not to read too much into their attitude. Some can be a bit dismissive, like they don’t know what I'm talking about, but others are genuinely concerned and do their best with what they have. If they can’t fix the problem, they’ll send a supervisor. I try to be accommodating because I want the issue resolved. I don’t care about anything else. For the most part, the contractors have been accommodating.

I’ve had some contractors who were dismissive or didn’t want to do the work. For example, a plumber gave me bad advice instead of fixing the problem. I ended up paying out of pocket for someone else to actually do the job. The issue is that American Home Shield doesn’t fully compensate the contractors, so they’re not motivated to go above and beyond to resolve issues.

The contractor who fixed the dryer. I always check them online first. They had the worst reviews I’ve ever seen. I told American Home Shield that most of the reviews like, 90%, were terrible, with maybe one or two positive ones. I made sure to let them know.

Online, it said the company was permanently closed. I had to call American Home Shield because they didn’t contact me within 24–40 hours to set up the appointment. Then the guy called me and said that’s a fake website, and someone got mad and set up a fake site in their name. That’s really not good.

I told American Home Shield that I don’t want these people in my house, and if they can send someone else. They said I have to go with who they send. I’m paying for a service, and they’re telling me I have no other options, yet they’re sending the worst option they have available.

At this point, once my dryer is fixed, I might stick with it for a month or two, but I’m planning to drop American Home Shield. I’d rather pay out of pocket and set money aside for repairs.

Customer service answers all my questions and contacts the contractor, they do what they’re supposed to do, aside from offering options. I can understand about 85% of the representatives, since I know they outsource some call centers. They follow American Home Shield’s guidelines, so in that sense, customer service is fine. But they’re very rigid, following the script with no flexibility or options.

Anytime Home Services' plumber came. He took a minute and said we have to replace the whole pipe that's coming from outside. He left and said he would send this information to the insurance and see if they would cover it. Later that day, I got an email saying my claim is partially covered. I opened that link and it said nothing was being covered to me. So, the email was misleading. It said that it was $0 that I would get covered and then $4000 each I will have to pay to replace that.

I called and they said they cannot do anything because the hose is coming from outside. And we only cover walls in. I contacted a different plumber with Any Hour 24/7 Plumbing in Utah, and they came and then they inspected the leak, and they we could fix it from the inside. They did fix it from the inside. They came two days after and charged me about $800, but what they did was they were able to pull the hose a little bit and fix the leak.

I was angry because it wasn't walls in issue that the insurance incorrectly declined. I called AHS and told them since they didn't cover anything that they should have covered, the very least they can do is refund me for the service I paid for when they sent the plumber who misdiagnosed the issue. I feel robbed because they charged me $125. They declined the refund as well.

I had a previous claim where something also happened with the plumbing, but in this case, it was on the second floor of the home I purchased about seven months ago. We did an inspection, and they were saying that there were some gaps between some plumbing pipes, and either the flooring or the wall, there were some gaps and it was a risk for having pests, such as mice, come in. They told me I have to have them either fix it or acknowledge it.

When I was buying, the seller had someone who came and sprayed those little gaps. But at first, it looks like they sprayed a little bit too much in one of the pipes and they clogged the pipe in my furnace. I didn’t have any issues with the AC during summer but when winter came and the colder days, I started using the furnace for air heating and it was failing.

I did the service request and they sent another contractor and the contractor came and they said everything is fine with my furnace. The problem is that the piping for the drainage is clogged. This is not an HVAC issue; this is a piping issue. I called the insurance again to ask if we can switch my service from HVAC to plumbing and they said I have to pay for another service fee.

From my perspective, if the furnace is not working, the issue is HVAC-related. They didn't fix that and they wanted me to pay another $125, which I did not pay. I have another plumbing problem that I got and fixed for 50 bucks.

I have had only bad experiences with American Home Shield. I'm not planning to renew this next year. I am very unhappy with all their coverage and service. They try their very hardest not to cover the policyholder.

I had a garage door repair, and they only covered the parts. The type and brand that I had was more expensive in coverage, so I had to pay $300 out of pocket. I wasn’t necessarily happy about that. The lack of coverage for that one thing was a surprise, but the company that replaced it was really good.

I also had a faucet repair. It was leaking, so I submitted a claim. It’s easy. I do it online. The technician from GoPro called the next day and came out the day after that. He was professional and fixed it the same day he came, so that was great.

The most recent claim with the dryer is still in progress. They had to order parts, and they said it could take around two weeks.

Right now, it’s a nightmare. I got a dryer that’s been broken for two and a half weeks, and because the vendor can’t get the parts, he won’t come out to fix it. They gotta buy the parts through their system, and that’s the only glitch with American Home Shield.

How it works is their vendor comes out, looks at it and sends a parts list to American Home Shield to authorize the repair. Then they have to buy the parts through their process, and AHS orders the parts and sends them to the guy. That’s all a delay.

If I call an appliance repair place myself, they come out, get the parts and fix it the next day. But AHS doesn’t do that. I gotta use their provider, and some of them don’t call me back for three or four days. I’m not their top priority because they’re getting paid less. I just had my washer fixed, and the same thing happened. The dryer should take two or three days, and now it’s almost the third week. It’s not a good process. They assign it to a vendor, and that’s it. They don’t care if the vendor doesn’t come out right away.

I’ve had them forever, and I know how it works, so I just deal with it. It cost me $100 to have my dryer fixed – that’s my deductible. If I call someone myself, it’s $125 to $150 just to come out, plus the repair, so you gotta weigh it out. They’ve bought me my heater, my air-conditioning system, three washers and two dryers. They’ve replaced things, and they’ve never denied a claim. So, for what I use them for, it’s a convenience. I’m not paying to save money – I’m paying for convenience.

The pump in the washer needed to be replaced. The quality was great and everything has been working great since the repair.

The only issue was that it took almost a month to get it repaired. It took two weeks for someone to come out and diagnose the issue. Then it took another two weeks to get the part and schedule the repair. When I pointed out that I’d be without a washer for a month, they said that was the earliest availability they had. Aside from that, everything else was good.

The contractors that American Home Shield sent out were great, and I had no complaints about the service itself. Submitting a claim was simple, and it was fixed right away with no issues. My most recent claim was a bit disappointing because I thought it would be fully covered. I pay almost $100 a month, but I still had to pay $600 out of pocket.

I called the American Home Shield because the garage door won't open or close. They found somebody quickly. They're okay. They came, fixed it, and left.
